Even though there’s not a single myth on it, I’d like to think Aphrodite couldn’t give a shit about her sexuality.
She gets bored one day, and particularly curious, and heads down to earth. As she wanders around the markets in her mortal disguise, her attention is caught by a kind woman buying apples. Aphrodite wanders over, curious. She’s so beautiful, not so much that she challenges the goddess’ beauty, obviously, but she’s got these delicate features mixed with a sharp nose that stand out to Aphrodite. She likes how she looks.
The woman notices her, smiles politely, but seems captivated by Aphrodite’s beauty, even in her mortal state. She greets her, and Aphrodite likes that. Her voice.
She reaches for an apple, so Aphrodite picks it up and studies it, as if it’s at all interesting to her. She twirls it in the light, then looks up, and extends it to the woman, offering it.
As the woman takes it carefully, she twines her fingers in Aphrodite’s, for just a moment. It couldn’t have been an accident.
So Aphrodite, smiling softly, asks for her name.
The woman gives it.
Days later, Aphrodite is lounging on Olympus, twirling a strand of her hair and thinking about that woman she’d met. She was like no other, beautiful and prim and yet so powerfully attractive. Aphrodite bids her lover farewell on Olympus, Ares is gone to fight another war. A small one, but a war nonetheless.
She is bored. And roused. She wishes to go and have some sort of good time, but does not know what precisely to do. With Ares gone, and the others truly uninteresting, she huffs in annoyance. Then a thought occurs, perhaps she should simply go and find that woman again. Or attend some festival, who knows?
So Aphrodite takes the form of a dove, and soars through the air, searching. Her eyes land on a stream, sensing there is someone there she wishes to meet.
When she lands, she transforms into the same maiden she had been days ago. She tousles her skirts, and slinks out from behind the tree she used as coverage, and spies a woman with her back turned.
The woman is tying back her hair, perhaps readying herself to wash her face, or take a swim. It is awfully balmy that day, so either is plausible. She turns, and is surprised by the sight of Aphrodite, in disguise.
She blinks, but smiles a moment later. “I knew I had not seen the last of you.”
Aphrodite raises a brow. “You were so sure?”
“I would believe so, goddess. For you must know I was not finished seeking your company.”
Aphrodite is surprised. No one speaks to her in such a way, or calls her on her bluff so quickly.
“You are hasty to supplicate me, dear.” She says, just so.
“No, I am not hasty.” The woman replies. “I am bold.”
Aphrodite smiles.
“If I were a goddess, perhaps,” she begins. “Would you have me?”
The woman chuckles. “I think I am much too consumed by my thoughts of you to care whether or not you are a goddess.” She glances Aphrodite up, and down. “I would have you only if you sought me.”
And the line of the stream between them is much too large, suddenly. Aphrodite reaches for the pins of her dress.
“Come.” She says, a light smile playing at her lips. “Let us swim. It is much too hot to be standing here exchanging polite words.”
When all is said and done, and Aphrodite lays back against the bank of the river, her sweat and exertion mixing with the cleansing drops of water slipping from her locks of hair, she holds the woman close to her. Skin upon skin, tender and simple, for a moment. Pleasant. Just to be here, just to be. Just.
She cards her fingers through the woman’s hair. “I am sure you wonder which goddess I am.”
The woman hums, her throat making a sweet buzz against Aphrodite’s breast. “Perhaps. Only so I may call your name again.” She runs a finger down the goddess’ arm, from shoulder to wrist, then lingering there. “But I have my wits about me.”
Aphrodite smiles. “Oh? And who might you seek me as?”
The woman takes Aphrodite’s hand, now. “I shall love you no matter who you may be, Aphrodite.”
It is not the last time they meet, nor the last time they lay together. They dabble in fields, laugh over wine, and speak to one another late in the night. As it would occur, the woman is a poet, a good one at that, and writes hymns for Aphrodite in her lustrous love for the goddess.
The woman holds such court in Aphrodite’s heart for so many years, that Aphrodite soon fears, actually fears, her death. She laments the fact that the woman is mortal, and will die. The woman does not.
“I have lived a lifetime dappled with you. I do not weep for it, such a blessing.”
But Aphrodite still feels the knowledge gnaw at her. She knows she cannot make a god of the woman, but she may be able to place her judgement in the realm of the dead.
Decades pass, still enjoying one another. The woman ages, and she does not. But they still find each other in the darkness, in the light.
One day, decades and decades later, the woman dies. A peaceful death, a life prolonged by the proximity and life of a goddess. It would have surprised her to know she did not die of a tragedy, like all other lovers of gods. Perhaps that is why she is left out in history.
Aphrodite weeps for her, as she did Adonis, and select other lovers that were as golden to her as her own divinity. She carves a tomb, in memorial, that over time crumbles and breaks. She carves her name into it, but in centuries, it will be lost.
Her battle is not over. She composed herself, and urges her way to a field, near a crack to Erebos.
It is springtime. She may call for her.
“Persephone.”
At the invocation of her name, Persephone comes to the call.
“Aphrodite.” She greets, a mix of warmth and ice.
Aphrodite pauses, the request tingling on her lips. “You may not care, but we have had our moments, dear Persephone.”
They could not be called friends, no. But they could not be denied of the ways of the flesh they had once- twice, perhaps, shared.
She continues at the silence. “I come to request a placement for a soul.”
Persephone raises a brow. “I see.”
“She is virtuous, and a good woman, besides. I believe you should place her in Elysium.”
Persephone narrows her eyes. “Give me her name. I may see what I can do.”
Aphrodite gives it. Persephone returns a blank look. Then it shifts to an amusement.
“She has found her eternal rest, I confess.”
Aphrodite frowns. “I know. That is the reason for my request.”
“You misunderstand.” Persephone laughs. “She had drank from the river Lethe twice over. She has lived three virtuous lives, with this one her third.”
Aphrodite’s eyes widen.
“She resides on the Isle of the Blessed?”
Persephone nods, smiling still. Aphrodite does not know why.
But her heart leaps. There is that, she thinks. She has lived three virtuous lives.
Then a thought crosses her mind. “What made her virtuous, in this one?”
Persephone smiles. “She will write a history, in years to come. Perhaps all because of one lover she had in particular.”

there's a lot of discussion and speculation about the fact john doesn't speak of arthur in rdr1. logistically it's not hard to understand that rdr1 just came out years before rdr2 and thats why but . But.
but when you think of rdr1 with the additional context two, there is something quite... in line with john trying to forget arthur. wanting to. or burying him. not just in metaphor or in soil but in his memories and in some way failing to do it but in another succeeding
you think of john and his commitment to his son and wife and you think of his willingness to do anything for them. moral or not. righteous or not. and you think of the fact that john didn't know at the time the sort of man arthur believed him to be, but he perhaps modeled himself in the image of his older brother. near incidental. he has so little in common with arthur really. john's broody and lacking remorse and at twenty-six he's inconsiderate entirely in a way arthur never was.
but time is a thief and one day, he turns 38. he's older than arthur when he dies. and john doesn't remember well what he looks like, and all he can feel when he thinks of arthur is grief. grief that never ends. thats the thing about all of it, you'll realize - is that john knows arthur best in the retroactive.
the sort of complicated, odd man arthur was revealed to him in the creases of pages and keepsakes. in the carving of his guns that john finds after arthur is gone. in the ring of the woman arthur loved long ago. in the confessionals to his son isaac and the regret in the letters he wrote to their psuedo father. you realize john knows more of arthurs stagnant ghost that can't guide john into manhood the way he so desperately needs. and it's all he has to go by to make a man of himself.
john never finds out what kind of man arthur believed him to be and he has to infer the real good man arthur was. in grief there is love. john loved arthur enough to want to be like him. and in burying the living, breathing man arthur was he's forced to cling to his spirit. has to piece together the kindness of his older brother through memories and diary entries and secondhand stories. and that's how he models himself in rdr1 to me. where arthur is moral john becomes dutiful and where arthur is kind, john is helpful. he becomes the shadow of arthurs best qualities. he can never be arthur. no one could ever be arthur, even if arthur had given them the page by page instructions of how to do so. this is all he has. all he knows. all he can do.
john misses his brother. so he tries to embody him. but he can't really in the same way he can't grieve him. so he makes a home for arthurs ghost to return to in himself. john never mentions arthur because it dregs up painful what-ifs, but they share so many mannerisms and bastardized qualities. john has fashioned himself based on those loose memories.
one day, a stranger meets john and says. "why would you remember me, friend? you've forgotten far more important people than me" and john will remember all the ghosts he's ever loved briefly. there will be a blurry face and a forgiving voice and it will sound like a memory and it will linger in johns ribcage like a moth. and john won't remember. he won't. he can't. he buried his brother without ever doing it.
john says a lot of things. feels a lot of things. he shoots his gun to the stranger who calls his memory into question and the thing jams and the bastard roams free. john will taste blood in his mouth. he'll feel a cough in his lungs and well, he won't remember his brother still. buried men must stay buried.
of course. of course john never mentions arthur. he can't remember him, even though he's inherited so much of his manner. to speak it of him would be admitting to his existence. its admitting: i miss you. im sorry. it was my fault.
of course john never mentions arthur. he's made all this effort in forgetting him that even when his body and his gesture and his character betray the fact he's forgotten - his mind will soothe the pain and blur out his face.
and instead of remembering in life even once, he'll die the same way arthur did. alone. protective. contented. redeemed. john loves arthur like most brothers do - with muscle memory.
even if john cuts the necrosis of arthurs memory off of him, his body will twitch at the phantom feeling of his existence. john remembers even when he can't. arthur his only brother. the most important man he's ever forgotten.

Sleepless Nights
“I’m tired,” you say while burying your head into your lover’s chest as you both lie on the bed
“That’s why you shouldn’t have gone to bed that late last night,” your lover commented with a slight chuckle
“Mmm” you grumpily mumble into his chest while still snuggled up next to him
“You know, whenever I didn’t get enough sleep, I would just have to keep pushing through the day until I could actually rest.”
This made you perk up a little. You knew that before moving in your lover didn’t have the best sleep schedule but you thought at least he could take a little care for his health. “Because you ended up doing a lot of work and lost track of time?” You questioned raising your head a little.
“That and…” He started to trail off. Quite a few years have passed since the so-called “incidents” of his past. Enough time that when reminded of it he can just brush it off but that doesn’t mean it occasionally stops creeping in his dreams. Before you moved in whenever these occurrences would happen he would wake up in a cold sweat. He did not want to be reminded of what happened and the fear and anger he felt those days in his sleep. So on those days he would wake up early and work out or get a head start on work for the day. He had nothing to ground him or his bottled up emotions that appeared in his dreams so for the first few hours of the day he was a little off but by the end of the day he was already over all that happened in his sleep the night before. He knows since you’ve moved in he’s been more content and relaxed before bed causing him to sleep peacefully and smoothly. However it would also be a lie to say these occasional nightmares just stopped appearing. They are, however, less frequent and he’s able to calm down much quicker by just knowing your calming presence is there. You’ve always talked about how you feel safe and comfortable in his presence and the truth is he feels the same way. Waking up from one of his cold sweat flashbacks, his heart racing a little, all he has to do is slightly look down and see that you’re peacefully sleeping on his chest. Noticing your slow and steady breaths lulls him back to a blissful sleep. Of course, he’s never told you that these nightmares sometimes happen, but he is forever grateful for your presence in silence, and if you ever needed to hear it out loud he would explain right then and there just how much you mean to him. He was then snapped out of his thoughts as he realized you were staring at him waiting for him to continue his sentence. “Sorry,” he apologized “My mind seemed to go elsewhere”
Without him even saying what he was thinking you could infer what it was about. “It’s ok, you don’t need to finish that sentence,” you started. There was a small pause before you continued, “We have each other now”
And that was all he needed to hear to know that ‘Yes, everything will be ok’
Wrote this with Wriothesley in mind but realized it could also apply to Xiao and Scara

Drafting the Adventure: Dungeons Without Walls
I love the idea of dungeons, but there was a significant portion of my life as a DM where they didn’t feature in my games. While Pathfinder and 5e provided a great framework for character building and tactical skirmishes that I could build story on top of, neither was really great when it came time to detour into a  dungeon. My players tended to get confused when we headed out to plunder the local ruin or cave system, spending a lot more time figuring out where they were and what they should be doing than actually doing anything.
The problem as it turned out was limited information.  I had a picture of the dungeon in my head/notes but I couldn’t telepathically infer that to the party, and the back and forth questions where they tried to orient themselves within my mental labyrinth ate up a lot of session time prevented us from attaining that snappy pace that every table needs to keep the players invested.
Recently though I had an epiphany about overhauling exploration in d&d, and wrote up a whole post detailing how you could build and run wilderness adventures the same way you could a heist or a murder mystery. Because I was already writing a series about dungeon design it didn’t take long for me to realize that this exploration overhaul was 100% applicable, and could solve a lot of the delay and confusion my players usually faced on their next trip underground.  Spoilers: it worked amazingly.
The key to this overhaul was giving my players enough information to see the dungeon as a sort of abstract checklist, and then giving them the power to investigate and check things off that list in whatever order they wished, when they enter a new level of the dungeon they get a new checklist to fill out which still keeps that sense of exploration. Folk love checking things off lists, and I as a dungeonmaster love it when players engage with the content I’ve spent so much energy creating even if it’s only poking their head in the door to realize they want to run away as fast as possible. Likewise, designing the dungeon this way let me tackle much larger concepts without having to sweat the details of filling up every little room as I would have to in map-centric design.
To summarize my exploration mechanic as It applies to dungeons:
During Design: After you’ve got the dungeons’ major concept, you divide it into unique “zones” (essentially what might be levels in a regular dungeon) with an interconnected theme, mechanic, or threat.
Each zone has a number of points of interest, which can be anything from trails to follow, odd sights they might investigate, to full complexes of rooms that you’ve mapped out. You don’t need to map out the points of interest otherwise, they sort of float abstractly within the zone
When players enter a zone, they become aware of its name and general descriptor, as well as how many total points of interest are in that zone. They also become aware of some points of interest immediately to serve as landmarks and give them a direction for their exploration, but most remain undiscovered until they venture off the path and start checking out their surroundings. Hidden among these points of interest are the doors that lead to zones deeper within the dungeon, encouraging the party to explore in order to progress.
During Play: When the players enter the dungeon, one player is appointed as the surveyor, who’s job it is to keep track of the zones, fill out that checklist, and check things off when the DM tells them that they’ve fully explored a point of interest.
Rather than needing to be aware of the exact room layout, the party just need to know what zone they’re in and what options are available to them, Because this information is delivered in the form of a checklist with empty spaces, the party know exactly how much of the dungeon they’ve explored, what’s left to explore, and when they’ve cleared out an area.
Lets take the image above as inspiration. Say the party is trying to make it up to the tower, you can easily see a progression of zones and maybe imagine a few to go alongside them:
Ruins & Foothills: The first area, filled with the remnants of an ancient civilization. Picked over by looters and now a home to all sorts of wildlife,
Mountainside: The obvious next goal, but locked off behind a challenging climb, Filled with hazards that threaten to knock the party back down to the foothills if they’re not careful
Caverns: Secret area accessible only if the party explore a cave on the mountainside, or make a beeline towards the old aqueduct landmark in the foothills, realizing it might be easier than the climb.
Spire Foundations: The door connecting to the foothills is guarded by a complex puzzle and arcane ward, but the party might be able to sneak in through the caves where erosion has caused a breakthrough into the cellars.
Spire Peak: High among the clouds, the party’s prize is somewhere here.  Access to the upper sections of the tower are guarded by a territorial sphinx under arcane compulsion, though the party might just be able to skip that fight if they figure out the riddle to make the portal mirrors work in the foundations.
Trying to design all this by pencilling it in on a gridmap would take weeks, to say nothing of the headache it’d cause you trying to make things fit together and fill up empty space with content. Designing it first as a sequence of zones and then filling those out with interesting fights, puzzles, and encounters is the work of an afternoon or two. Likewise, its easy on your players: five zones with six to ten points of interest is far easier to tackle when you can make a checklist and see how much progress you’ve made, despite the fact that the area they’re exploring is quite vast.
I hope you find this as useful as I have, and if you need a more concrete example of how it might work, don’t worry, I’ll have one of those for you in the coming days.

The end of engagements is not uncommon, it is something that happens in the search for the soul mate. It will hurt, it will take time. Yet telling the bastard D.M. to acknowledge you are no longer accessible to him or how the engagement ring is returned to him with a letter telling in long-winded words you no longer want to see him.
Well, he is delusional at first believing you simply needed space. You need to reflect and realize how good you have it with him. He gave you a week. Then another week, he was busy. Then another week due to once again, he after all, masterfully artfully creating schemes. When a month passed, he sent you a letter. There was no reply, in fact, the letter he sent was returned to him.
You moved. You moved. You moved.
Désire Mélodis never had someone leave him. He has broken many hearts of both genders, but when he read your letter— Actually read it, he saw the seriousness of your words. You rejected him, you gave up on a comfortable life with him… Are you stupid!?
The man’s rage is cold, he simply burned your letter before going to the desk where he has a poster of you from your performance here long before he approached you.
How ungrateful are you? The nonsense you wrote him is just that: Nonsense! The lord professor is the most desirable man you will ever meet! To have caught his eye means you should be grateful! Along with feeling special. He scoffs before laughing hysterically.
“Mon amour,” His finger tracing the jaw of your picture, “Enjoy your time away from your cage.” A dastardly smirk on his face, “For once I find you: I will clip your wings.”

You should have known sooner or later your former love would come back in a blaze of glory. All you could do is just prepare for that, mentally. You sigh the second you see Lady Truth, Mr. Inference, and Mr. White entered the theater and sat in the back. Oh, lovely.
Not even the first bloody act the stage is on fire and there is a villain who shows up by crashing from the ceiling.
You are not even going to try to figure out how the man survived falling from that height to the stage.
There in the spotlight, there you stand wearing red, there the most dramatic moment happens before your eyes.
“You crazy son of a bitch!”
Is he serious? Is he serious about showing up like this?! In a dashing white suit with a top hair and cape, he appears, the curtain falls behind you, and he snatches you as if you magically weigh nothing. What madness! Wait, the man is too tall, and the long claws are not D.M.’s style.
“Tuberose put me down right now— Aaaaaa!!” Screaming as the terrifyingly tall man steals you away as the fire starts to consume the stage. Pointing at the place where he fell from, he points and launches the hook before sending you both flying through the air. The hook to pulling you both out of the theater.
“Please stop kicking me.” Once on the rooftop, he tosses you over his shoulder.
“Maybe I will stop kicking if you put me down!” You are beyond pissed. Honestly, you know D.M. is dramatic but burning down the opera theater, dramatic speech by his assistant, and what the hell is this get-up he put on Tuberose? “This suit is ugly by the way!”
“His request.”
You roll your eyes as you are forced to endure being chased after from rooftop to rooftop. “If you turn left at the next street you can lose them in the alley.”
“Thank you.”
“Uh-huh.” Bored. This is honestly why you ended the engagement! The drama was ridiculous, not to mention how you felt like you were competing for your ex-fiance's attention. “How is he?”
“Colder.”
“I see… I missed you guys.”
The assistant, you know you do not if Tuberose is an assistant, puts you down when close is clear.
“Are you going to change?” Watching him undress, “Oh your hair is messy.” As he changes, you fix his hair. “There.” Smiling then pouting when he puts on his fedora. He gives you his shawl to keep you warm given what you are wearing is a red costume for your part.
Tumblr media
“Welcome home, mon petit gâteau.” Open arms as you are brought to his manor. His smile is fake, the foyer looks nice still, oh, you noticed a new maid.
“Hm,” Looking around. Nothing changed. Guess you shouldn't be surprised, you only left two or three months ago.
It took a bit of walking to the rendezvous point where Gatto sat in the automotive waiting. The drive was unbearable, you only compiled because you care for the safety of these two over your own.
Plus, D.M. would never hurt you… You hope.
“Sir, I know you understand this is kidnapping.” Crossing your arms after giving back Tuberose his shawl before that adds to this long overdue argument. “What were you thinking doing that!? Couldn't you have waited until I was home!?”
“Dear, you were merely a distraction to my true objective.”
“Ah, using me again. You never change.” Throwing your hands up in the air, “Did you at least have something made before stealing me away?”
“Dinner is prepared for us, my love. Your favorites.” Bowing as if so pleased with himself because he is, he thought of everything.
“And this is going to be civil?”
“As civil as you remain.”
And so you take his hand as he leads to the prepared dining room, alone. Alone with him.
Into the belly of the beast moment.
“Same chef?” You finished dinner, now having a shared dessert with D.M. beside you. It has been civil, a few quips or sarcastic remarks, for the most nothing argumentative. Yet.
“You said you like the way she makes the velvet cake.”
“And I told you she needed to be given time off to see her son.” Eating a spoonful of cake, “Did you?”
“Of course.” His foot rubs against your calf under the table.
“Désire.”
“I have missed you a great deal.” The lord's free hand touching yours, “We could have talked about this.”
“There was nothing to talk about, Désire.” Slipping your hand away to take a sip of the wine you have been nursing throughout dinner. Must be from his personal collection. “You have your pursues, I have my wants.” Speaking with some liquid courage in you.
“And your wants are for me to fulfill, (Name). Anything you desire and I can grant you it.”
“Do you love me?” Serious as you put the spoon down and lean on the table.
“Of course.”
“You say that but not once did you say it!” Annoyed, “I had to hope you loved me. But it seemed you loved playing games with those detectives over our relationship!”
Then you started yelling, tears ruining your simple stage makeup. God, doing this with a costume on makes this so ridiculous!
The former key to your heart is prepared, you know for he is sounding a lot calmer than you are as emotions flare out. The lord professor, son of a bitch, always so perfect; the Creme De La Creme of society, when your engagement ended— When you ended it, they blamed you. Because Désire Mélodis could do no wrong!
“(Name),” When he stands, you turn in your seat about to follow to stand your ground but when he goes on one knee, reaching into his pocket to pull out the ring, the engagement ring you sent back to him, you stop. “You're mine.” Sometimes it frightens you how sure he sounds. How can this man say without a shadow of a doubt that you are his? “You've always been mine.” The pain of that truth is you have yet to look for another. Oh, and there are suitors who have tried to do the song and dance, none have swept you off your feet like this bastard has.
“You can’t own me.” The wine hits you, “You don’t own me.” He chuckles at those words for it is the last thing you say before he kisses you. The sort of kiss he would give when you are mad at him, the sort that makes you dizzy and cling to his jacket pulling him closer. His finger outlines your jaw down to your throat, his lips leave yours as much as would enjoy staying there…
He is sweet, the sweet that makes you cry more, his arms the safest place you have ever been, and you let him slip the ring back to its rightful place.
The gentleman that he is, painfully at times, he does not take you on the dining table though you hint for him to do it. Instead, he takes you to the guest room (prepared beforehand) to sleep off the wine you drank (he knew to give you more than himself, snake).
In the morning, you will be upset. The lord likes that fire about you, keeps him entertained.

No cuz do you ever just realize how powerful lucy is?
She was able to conjure ALL of her celestial spirits, 3 or 4 of them being fricking ZODIACS, all at once and being powerful enough to be recognized by the celestial spirit king? And all in the first season? Where she hasn’t even had her star dresses and other abilities she has learned?
Not to mention this theory about her being a descendent of the goddess Anna, the best Celestial Spirit user.
And im rewatching it rn, and ive already encountered a moment where if she didnt interfere, natsu would have died. The arc with phantom lord where natsu is battling gajeel? Gajeel had eaten iron but there was no fire for natsu to eat, and so Lucy gave him that fire by using Sagittarius. Without that fire, natsu definitely wouldnt have finished that fight.
People are always saying ‘oh well that may be so, but if she hadn’t joined the guild-‘ Phantom lord would have most definitely attacked them for another reason. They wanted to remain the best guild in Fiore. Fairytail challenged that, so it was just a matter of time before they fought.
“Well, she always gets in their way-“ Yeah, considering the fact that she grew up in a household where her fathers only concern was the family line, she wouldn’t exactly have time to practice her magic. The only spirit she really had was Aquarius, and we can infer that she only brought her out on very few occasions. And she also wouldn’t have been able to build up any target practice or any muscle building, since Jude would say, in the stupid old fashioned way, ‘women don’t need muscles. All you need to do is make yourself look presentable to find a husband.’ He definitely wouldn’t have wanted her practicing her magic.
Meanwhile, all the others grew up in an environment where they could practice their magic freely with other wizards. They had teachers and activities that enhanced their magic and physical builds, she didn’t. So of course she wouldn’t be able to be on their level so soon.
Also, the amount of magic it takes to summon a silver spirit is a lot, but even MORE so for a Zodiac. Mashima explained that it pretty much is on a scale from 1-100. Plu being the easiest to summon at one, and her highest silver key being Lyra at 18. Her golden keys on the other hand, has Aquarius at 100 and the lowest being Cancer at 52. Others talk about the spirits only being able to use as much magical power as Lucy uses to summon them, but i doubt that theory/statement.
And its also amazing even then because she can keep those gates open for a tremendous amount of time, and multiple on some occasions. I don’t know if this part is true, but i believe that the mage has to have at-least some level of concentration on the gate for it to keep open, so if that’s correct, then it makes it even more astounding that she is able to focus on the bond at all times while fighting. And i only say this because her spirits go back to the spirit realm when she is knocked out.
Also during the E.N.D arc, (haven’t gotten there yet, seen bits and pieces) she literally REWRITES the E.N.D book that Zeref HIMSELF wrote. She literally rewrote his fate. And yes, i know that Gray was there to help her out, but at the same time, most people would have still not have been able to handle the mental and physical strain that causes.
And im just guessing on this part, but didnt she learn an entirely new part of her magic by someone in blue pegasus and learned how to preform the spell in like a week? Month? Some other very short time span?
Anyways i just love lucy and i would litterally rather show everyone my ao3 library before letting her get hurt/bashed. Lmao

(Sorry if there are any mistakes, I'm speaking through the translator)
Anyway! I want to know more! What kind of misery are you preparing for Narinder and the lamb eh?!When I read your post for some reason I could imagine the lamb in shock at seeing the one who tried to kill him, in his cult now because of the mysterious seller.
In my little head I imagined: "one of the two, or the lamb will have mercy, and will accept Narinder as his follower but without trusting him because of his trauma of being sacrificed to the gods, Or! He would try to get rid of Narinder:3
But on the other hand, I'm curious, how does Narinder feel about being in sheep's clothing now? I imagined him dying alone after being betrayed, wow, this is really good!
I want to know more! Can you tell me? I'm curious and creating a thousand theories with what you wrote there!
Omg this is the first ask I've gotten about my au yay!!
So basically the point where this diverges from canon is the boss fight against The One Who Waits. The Lamb still refuses to be sacrificed, but loses the battle and is sacrificed against their will. (Baal and Aym still die, unfortunately.)
Narinder basically ends up taking the place that The Lamb would've taken at the end of the game- leader of the cult and the last remaining god. It can be inferred from canon that he's met the mystic seller before, since all of his siblings have, so this isn't his first time meeting the mystic seller.
Of course Narinder is super happy at first to have his freedom, but he doesn't realize that something is missing until the mystic seller offers him the opportunity to bring back the lamb. And even then, Narinder is in huge denial about the fact that he wants to bring them back, but eventually he does.
When the lamb is brought back, Narinder is just happy to see them alive again. But The Lamb? From their perspective, getting killed by Narinder and forcefully sacrificed is still incredibly fresh on their mind, and they are absolutely not willing to be loyal to him again.
They're also incredibly scared. They no longer have the power of the red crown, meaning they won't automatically revive if they die, and they are not about to trust Narinder to resurrect them. The way I write the lamb, they love to tempt fate, but not at the risk of permanently dying.
Ultimately, The Lamb decides to do everything they can to try to murder Narinder. Narinder is aware of this plan, and both are left with a lot of deep feelings of betrayal.
Also, as for how Narinder feels about being cult leader? He definitely runs things a lot different than The Lamb did, the main difference being that I imagine The Lamb taught their followers mostly through reward while Narinder teaches mostly through punishment. Narinder also had to get used to how utterly incompetent the followers are, which is just really funny to think about.
Sorry my answer ended up being super long haha, I hope this answered all your questions! And thank you SO MUCH for the ask, it makes me unbelievably happy to see someone so interested in my au :D

I adore Tobias Menzies and loved watching Manhunt. The last episode prompted a discussion between my coworker and I…
Was Johnson involved?
Andrew Johnson was a lot of terrible things and you won't find me defending him for pretty much any reason, but he wasn't involved in Lincoln's assassination. It was easy to raise questions about him because he was a Southerner and a slaveowner, but he was loyal to the Union throughout the Civil War -- the only Senator from a state that joined the Confederacy who remained loyal -- and one of the last things he would have done was join in a conspiracy with the Southern aristocracy that he hated with a passion during his entire political career. The fact that he had extremely adversarial relationships with Stanton and General Grant also didn't help his cause when some folks started pointing fingers at him after Lincoln's assassination.
But if John Wilkes Booth's conspiracy had been carried out as intended on the night of April 14, 1865, then-Vice President Johnson would have been assassinated the same night that Lincoln was killed and Secretary of State Seward very nearly was. Right around the time that Lincoln was shot by Booth and Seward was viciously attacked in his home by Lewis Powell, George Atzerodt was supposed to kill Johnson at the hotel where Johnson was living after his inauguration as Vice President a month earlier. Atzerodt, however, lost his nerve and ended up getting drunk instead -- but was still executed for his role in the conspiracy.
By the way, I also don't think Confederate President Jefferson Davis had any sort of role in planning or ordering Lincoln's assassination. Davis and the Confederate government had already abandoned Richmond when Lincoln was killed, and it was clear that the war was basically over. Davis -- who also hated (and was hated by) Andrew Johnson -- recognized that President Lincoln was going to be the South's best bet for a Reconstruction that would help rebuild the former Confederacy without extreme punitive measures. There were definitely Confederate sympathizers and Confederate secret service operatives who were in contact with Booth over the years, and many of them were Northern business leaders with longstanding connections in the Southern states or who were angry over the abolition of slavery and its economic impact. But killing Lincoln -- especially at that point -- was far worse for the South because it led to Andrew Johnson as President, and Johnson really was probably the last person in America who Jefferson Davis would have wanted to be President of the United States. Operationally, it would not have made sense for Davis to order Lincoln's assassination, particularly at that time.
In his post-war book, The Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government (BOOK | KINDLE), published in 1881, Davis wrote about learning of Lincoln's assassination and realizing what Andrew Johnson's succession meant:
"For an enemy so relentless in the war for our subjugation, we could not be expected to mourn [Lincoln's death]; yet, in view of its political consequences, it could not be regarded otherwise than as a great misfortune to the South. [Lincoln] had power over the Northern people, and was without personal malignity toward the people of the South; his successor [Andrew Johnson] was without power in the North, and the embodiment of malignity toward the Southern people, perhaps the more so because he had betrayed and deserted them in the hour of their need... Lincoln had been assassinated, and a vindictive policy had been substituted for his, which avowedly was to procure a speedy surrender of the army upon any terms. His [Lincoln's] evident wish was to stop the further shedding of blood; that of his successors [Andrew Johnson]...was to extract all which it was possible to obtain...it is clearly to be inferred that, but for the untimely death of Lincoln, the...wounds inflicted on civil liberty by the 'reconstruction' measures might not have left their shameful scar on the United States."

could you write a fic about jiseok falling in love with an online gaming buddy? specifically if they’re a healer main 👀
Just a little disclaimer I tried my best with this request, but I am no gamer and have very little gaming knowledge, so if there are any inaccuracies I apologize. That being said I hope I still wrote this where it's enjoyable to read.
Kwak Jiseok
Summary:Jiseok comes to the realization that maybe it’s not so much the game he likes, but who he’s playing it with.
WC:~1.2k
Warning:grammar
Tumblr media
photo not mine credits to owner.
Jiseok was on a quest to find a hobby. Something to that he would enjoy spending his free time doing. Jooyeon recommended that he try out online gaming. Jooyeon helped Jiseok download the game, set up an account and then showed him the ropes. The two of them began to play some matches together, so Jiseok could work on toning his skills.
A few weeks passed, Jiseok got more comfortable with the game. He’s made some online friends that he enjoys playing with. One of those online friends being you. You first encountered Jiseok while playing some solo matches. The two of you were randomly put on the same team. You were playing your usual role as a main healer. Jiseok was seemingly in constant need of your assistance. It was pretty easy for you to see that he was new to the game. Jiseok thanked you in the chat and apologized for causing you trouble. He confirmed your inference that he was indeed new to the game. What people would refer to as a noob.
The two of you became online friends. You guys would always find time to game together and ended up becoming a really good team. As the two of you got closer, chatting in game turned into chatting privately.
Unfortunately this week you were very busy and unable to find time to game, so you sent Jiseok a text telling him that you wouldn’t be able to join him in gaming this week. He responded by telling you that he understands and to not overwork yourself.
For whatever reason Jiseok found that gaming this week wasn’t as fun as it usually was. The matches seemed more boring. Winning wasn’t as thrilling. Losing was more frustrating.
The next week you were back and able to play again. Suddenly the game’s funness returned.
Matches were exciting. Winning was exhilarating. Losing was annoying, but not the end of the world by any means. Jiseok wondered what could have made last week so meh. Maybe he was just having a bad week himself, but there wasn’t anything he could specifically think of that would make his week quote unquote bad.
The two of you were celebrating another match victory when the realization struck him. You weren’t there last week. Matches were boring without you to play with. Winning was less thrilling because he couldn’t share it with you. Losing was more frustrating because you weren’t there to cheer him up. Gaming with you is what made the game fun for him. Jiseok had no clue what he was supposed to do with new found information. What did it mean? Was it normal? It probably was. Gaming with your friend would naturally be more fun.
“Jiseok the next match started. Why are you just standing there? Did you go AFK?” Your voice rang over his headphones, snapping him from his thoughts.
“Sorry, I got distracted,” He said into his mic as he began to play.
You’ve noticed that Jiseok has been weird since that day. He’s often distracted during matches. His reaction times are slower and his aim is off.
“Jiseok is everything ok lately? You’re always distracted whenever we play?” You asked him over the mic.
“Oh…yeah everythings fine. I’ve just had a lot of thoughts on my mind recently,” he excuses.
“Well if you ever want to talk, you know how to reach me,” you stated. You hoped it was nothing too serious.
“Of course, thanks,” Jiseok tells you. The only issue is how could he possibly talk to you about it when you were the thoughts on his mind. Jiseok was even starting to wonder if he even liked the game or just liked you. However in order to figure that out he’d have to first figure out in what way he likes you. Is it simply as an online friend or something more? He always gets excited whenever your contact lights up his phone. He’s sad when you can’t game together. He wants to get to know you better, outside of gaming. He would like to spend time with you together in person. All of those things apply to friendship though, doesn’t mean that he has a crush on you.
Jiseok decided that he would take a week off from gaming. Give him a chance to sort his thoughts. He sent you a text under the guise of being too busy this week to game. It was believable, you’ve done the same before, so there was nothing to question about it.
During this week off Jiseok was able to figure that he didn’t miss gaming, but he did miss gaming with you. In fact he just missed talking to you in general. Since he used the guise of being busy that also meant he didn’t message you as often either, to make his lie believable. The way he missed you wasn’t how he missed his other friends, no it was different. Which led him to his second conclusion. Jiseok liked you, in a more than a friend way. He has fallen for his online gaming buddy without even realizing it. Now Jiseok had a new problem, what was he gonna do about that?
Jiseok returned to gaming the following week and tried to act as usual, however his newly discovered crush on you made that difficult. His heart raced faster, his palms felt sweaty, his stomach had butterflies.
“I’m glad you’re back. I missed you last week,” you told him. Thankfully you couldn’t see the heat you caused to rise to Jiseok’s cheeks with your simple words.
“I missed you too,” Jiseok replied.
Little did Jiseok know that you had grown to harbor your own crush on him. He was oblivious to the fact that although it was your role to heal all of your teammates you stayed extra close to his side. If two of your teammates were down you would heal him first. You too wished to know him better outside of gaming. Anytime he messaged you, you’d smile like an idiot at your phone. His laughter ringing over your headphones made your stomach swirl.
“Are you free to call after our gaming session? I have something that I want to tell you,” Jiseok asks you. You’re heart sped up. What could he want to talk to you about? It didn’t help that you two have never called outside of the gaming before either.
“Yeah I’m free,” you tried to say casually.
“Cool, I’ll call you after then,” Jiseok says.
Your gaming session came to an end and just like Jiseok said he would, your phone rang, displaying that Jiseok was calling.
“Hey,” you answered.
“Hey,” he responded.
“So you wanted to tell me something?” You questioned.
“Yeah uh…” Jiseok trailed off for a few seconds. “I don’t know if this is gonna sound weird. If it does then please forget that I said anything,” he continued on before taking another pause. “Over our time gaming together I’ve,” he laughs. “I’ve developed a crush on you, so I was wondering if you wanted to try going out. Like dating,” he finished. Jiseok’s heart was beating so fast. He felt like he might die if you didn’t answer him soon.
“I like you too Jiseok,” you confessed. Jiseok could finally breathe. If he was gonna die now it would be from happiness.
Your gaming sessions turned into gaming dates at internet cafes. Even though Jiseok realized that he isn’t the most avid gamer. He doesn’t love gaming, but he loves gaming with you.

Good afternoon Sex Witch!
I was hoping you could help me figure out how to change how I think about sex and unlearn some prudishness/ disentangle it from more genuine concerns and red flags.
Yadda yadda conservative small town childhood, classic backstory. I definitely got a sense of… I guess, safety and rightness by being very “these things are always bad”; not just sex things but sex was, of course, still one of the big things. Of course, then came puberty, and getting out of my comfort zone, and realizing how toxic purity culture was. Growing up meant, in part, my learning to do better by re-examining things I’d taken for granted.
That’s why I’m asking: there’s a lot of… lingering discomfort with a few things. I realized I still feel pretty… uncomfortable around people who have a lot of sex with multiple partners, along with the topics of polyamory and open relationships. I’m monogamous and I’m not ashamed of that, and of course I keep my opinions to myself when around friends who are happy in non-monogamous relationships. Cuz like, this is ABSOLUTELY a me-problem. I would just like to not feel like this and be unambiguously happy for people I otherwise love living their best lives.
(I’m also single and shy; I strongly suspect that envy over people who can attract multiple partners when I can’t seem to even attract one is a polluting variable.)
Regardless, do you have any links to point me to or thoughts to help me dismantle this ugly bigotry protoplasm? Cuz I know I’m wrong; I’d just like to get the bit of my brain to stop sending these stupid alarm signals.
hi anon,
okay, so, first I just want to say congrats to you on the obvious massive amounts of work that you've done to identify the biases you were raised with and work to uproot them. I know you're here because you feel you still have work to do, and I respect that completely, but I think it's also important to recognize that you've clearly come very far from what you were raised with. being able to recognize when something is a you-problem is HUGE.
I also want to say, as gently and with as much love as possible, that it may not ever be possible to totally 100% possible eradicate thoughts that we don't like. in a way, the idea that we can and should be able to control our impulsive reactions to things is still very conservative, right? it's the idea of "thought crime," except now instead of being upset at yourself for having a sexual thought it's being upset for having a thought that's not sexually open enough.
while I understand wanting to eradicate that unpleasant little "yuck" response out of your brain forever, I also believe very firmly that your thoughts alone don't define you or your values. okay, so your knee-jerk reaction to someone you love announcing that they're in an open relationship is discomfort. but what are your actions? what are you saying and doing? are you lecturing them about their immoral lifestyle, or are you pushing that discomfort aside and doing your best to be supportive of someone else's happiness even if you don't personally get it?
your actions and how you're treating the people you care about matter a lot more than the thoughts that you can't help.
having said that, it's still nice to have some framework for how to work through those feelings of discomfort to at least see if it's possible to diminish them and change that line of thinking. luckily, sex educator Nadine Thornhill just wrote about this in her latest newsletter, which I definitely recommend checking out - Dr. Thornhill is gem.
so, with full credit and hoping that she would forgive me for borrowing, here's an excerpt from Dr. Thornhill's newsletter:
Like all humans, I have a judgey little mind that is constantly observing, assessing, assuming, inferring, and drawing conclusions based on random stimuli. That’s always happening, even when I’m in sex-educator mode. But what I can do (and you can, too, if you want) is practice being mindful of my judgements, especially negative judgements. The most critical part of the practice has been getting curious about my body signals. When someone makes a sexual decision I don’t like, a question I try to ask myself is: What does that feel like in my body? Sometimes, I’ve struggled to maintain that level of in-the-moment mindfulness when working with real people and consequences.Movies and TV have helped me explore some of that stuff. It’s a safe place to judge fictional folks and their fictional sexual choices freely. Meanwhile, being able to pause, rewind or replay a provocative scene lets me take the time to take stock of my physical reactions. With time and practice, it’s become easier to recognize the specific muscle tension and rapid breathing that signals disapproval. Why is this important? We may not be able to stop ourselves from forming judgements about other people’s sexual choices. But if we understand and acknowledge them as judgements rather than facts, we can work to avoid imposing our will on other people. One way we might do so is by asking ourselves the following questions: Does this person’s decision affect my body, relationships, or autonomy? What would have to be true for me to want to make this same choice? What might make this a positive choice for this person right now? How might my own experiences or situations be affecting my opinion? How can I express kindness and compassion while still respecting their right to make their own choice?
much appreciation to Dr. Thornhill for putting this so succinctly; I'd definitely recommend checking out her work for anon and anyone else!

Tital: Loves twisted curse
Angst-Gojo Saturo
Trigger warnings ⚠️-blood, implied character death, pain.
Note-Not gonna talk about how I got spoiled for the new manga ch😒😒. Also I wrote a one shot about jjk characters getting your attention the one for Gojo this is kinda piggy backing off that . Sorry if you don't like it I'm tired as hell, enjoy!!
With his crystal-like eye's, strong physique, and his snow white hair, who wouldn't fall in love with someone as perfect as him? And every moment his charming blue gaze meets yours you were no exception to this, however, loving him- truly loving the man that Gojo Saturo is isn't easy and the more you fall deeper in love with him the more you come to realize that love truly is the most twisted curse of all and mostly...just loving the untouchable Gojo.
"Kufu-chaaan!" Your ridiculous nickname was yelled from across the training field by a formiler white map of hair, kufu as in kikufuku; turning around and seeing the one and only Gojo Saturo. He smiled at you when he cought up to you "Let's go to that one dessert shop"
"Can't, I'm training" you said to deaf ears
"Oh I'll be fine" and with that he locked his arms with yours and dragged you off wether you liked it or not.
---------
You stared at the man before you as he continued to eat -what seemed like- every cake in the shop
"I don't understand how you can eat that much sugar and not get sick"
"Huh? Want some?"
"I'm good, thanks" truth be told, Gojo inferated you, how every woman and man practically graveled at his feet wether it was because he's the strongest man on the planet or the hottest, people either wanted to be him or be with him. And from your prospective he got everything he wanted, he inferated you, 'the choosen one' people would say 'he's the strongest' it all inferated you but somehow you were drawn to him, you hated the strongest sorcerer known to man but you loved Gojo Saturo, who never even paid attention to you untill...
It had been a year since Gojo Saturo left the jujutsu school, sence he had left everything behind, sence he had left Saturo
"How are you?" You asked before you could stop yourself, he looked up
"Huh?"
"Nevermind, forget what I said"
"...I'm fine, why wouldn't I be anyway? I'm the strongest, something like that shouldn't bother me in the first place, that's what I hear people say when they think I'm not listening" he slid a pice of cake your way "What about you? Your his sister"
"Half sister, and I didn't know him that well so..." you took a pice of cake in your fork and ate it. It hurt, you don't want to admit that it does or even that it's true; after all, you are just temporary, a destruction from Geto.
----------
With the day quickly passing and you having a mission tomorrow, you walked back to the school, stopping at a train station
"Gojo" your voice was barley above a whisper as you called out to him, he looked at you
"Yeah?"
"What am I to you?" Your question took him off gard to say the least, with a sound of confusion he began to think
"A friend" it sounded like more of a question than anything else
"You know Gojo...Im not sure if I like you for the same reasons Geto did, or if those are the exact reasons I hate you"
"What- what do you mean?" You shook your head and smiled, looking at him
"You don't think we're friends because we fight along side each other, you just like the idea of being friends with the closest thing to Geto, right?" From under his glasses you could see his eyes widen and lips part
"..."
"Do you have nothing to say? Let's stop this then, I'm far from being my brother so there's no reason to hang out anymore"
The next morning you get ready for your mission, ignoring the few messages you received from Gojo. Saying goodbye to Shoko, you set off for your assignment, not knowing that might be the last time you'll say that to her.
------------
The curse laughed as you struggled to stand, blood streamed from your parted lips as you caughted; you were reaching your limit and some of your ribs were broken, there was no mistaken that as surges of pain shot from your side everytime you attempted to stand. You wiped the blood from your mouth and stood, with a last stich effort to win this fight you put your hand on top of the other with the bottom hand closed in a fist while the other one was the opposite.
"Domain Expansion: Death Dual!" The room fell silent as a black fog clouded all four corners. This was probably going to kill you but forgetting about that you laughed aloud, this was the first time you had successfully pulled your domain expansion off, so to hell with the risks
"No fucking way! Hahahaha! Damn I actually did it, so what's gonna happen now you filthy curse?"
------------
You breathed in sharply as blood fleeted from your side, holding a hand there to slow the crimson liquid. The walls cracked and parts of the roof caved in, with any luck the building would hold up for another three minutes before you'll be buried alive; the buzz of your phone broung you from your thoughts, wincing in pain as you moved to dig it from your pocket 'Gojo Saturo' the bright screen read, pushing the green button the sound of his voice filled the dark cold room
"Hey, you should be finishing up your mission now, right?"
"Well..." You looked around the room "the curse is exorcised"
"Great, can we meet?"
"Not sure that's happening, can you do something for me? Tell Shoko I can't make it back to jujutsu tech"
"What? Why?...Where are you?"
"Haha, I'm not really sure, I had to chase the curse somewhere it's all kind of a blur really"
"Are you hurt?"
"Well my leg is crushed, this buildings collapsing, and I'm not sure if it's the blood loss or the fact I'm exhausted but I wish you were here" you could hear him panting on the other line "Are you...running?"
"Just hang on, ok?, I'm coming"
"Oh come on, that's just cruel, don't give me faluse hope like that" you looked up at the sky as more of the roof fell, you smiled bitterly
"Sorry about last night..."
"Y/n"
"Humor me?"
"It's fine, we can talk about it later, right?"
"Yeah"
"Stay awake"
"Gojo..."
"Yeah?"
"The moon is beautiful, isn't it?"
"...Yeah"
--------

Hiiiii, I'm curious about F G and J from the ask game hehe
hallo! :D
f — share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you've written and explain why your proud of it.
as i search, i have come to realize i am not a dialogue person lol. out of all of my fics, not a single one has a thought out dialogue section, it's more the descriptions that matter in my head ig. all of my dialogues r basic as hell, so imma just not put one lol. i could share one of my favorite scenes to write tho, i have it in mind, but i have to find it since it was on wattpad unfortunately 😓
edit: my fav is the alternate ending i js wrote lol.
g — do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
surprisingly, i do write my story from start to finish. this is often why i upload so slow. i have to envision the transitions from scene to scene or else it fucks with my flow
j — write or describe an alternative ending to HOTLINE.
i did say i like torturing dazai, so this is one i first thought of.
Handing him a toothbrush, you let him brush his teeth and fix the mess that is your bedroom, knowing he'll ask to stay. And surely, 5 minutes later he stumbles to your doorway. "Can I...Can I stay?" You look him up and down, internally happy that he looks much better than when he first arrived. Though, you couldn't smile softly at him like you used to.
" . . . Dazai," you mumble, your eyebrows slightly knitted.
His lips twitch, face dropping. He's smart enough to infer what you'll say before you say it. Though he has no strength to stop you from speaking.
"You can't stay here."
Those words stung worse than the soap and water did his fresh self-inflicted wounds. He swallows the bile that reaches his throat, and there's the dreadful sight of his sunken eyes watering.
"You're wanted. A wanted Port Mafia executive at that. But I'm not, not anymore," you whisper, "I can't let your destructive tendencies ruin my chance at getting away from him."
Dazai knew very well who you spoke about, hell, he made you burn the man's coat. He understands so deeply, though it doesn't hurt less.
"I can contact Ango, he should be able to make arrangements for you like he did for me."
The man is slumped against the wall, his brown eyes pulled away from your guilty ones. There are words he knows your saying. He can hear the sound as you speak, though he can't quite process it. He doesn't want to. Everything he gains is ripped from him the moment he gets it.
Dazai stares at the floor, eyes bleary and brimming with tears.
"Kay . . . "

I had one of those days that makes me realize how much of my work experience existed before my current staff entered the workforce.
The employee who is 25 years younger than myself asked a simple question today - one that I'm sure she didn't realize would make me laugh.
She was answering a publisher inquiry about photographs that were sent for publication. The publisher wrote back to say that the author of the book had sent low resolution images and to please send high resolution versions.
My employee was desperately trying to find the images. We manage a repository of 4 million+ digital media files, and a sister unit manages a repository of at least that amount, plus several million undigitized film negatives/positives, but she could only find the low resolution images in either repository. So she asked for assistance.
I took one look at the year the images were taken and started giggling.
I had to explain to her that these photos were taken by a digital camera. In 2001.
I had been working here for 11 years when these photographs were taken. I remember them, I remember the event, I remember that our place of business was still officially using film because it would take several more years for digital cameras to be of a sufficient quality to match film quality (I believe we finally switched over to fully digital around 2005/6). But these photographs were digital only because event photography was usually taken for the business records and therefore did not have to be preservation quality (not that we called it that back then, but you get the point).
Hell, even most of the photographers that captured the events of September 11, 2001 were still using film. Film was the standard medium back then.
So I informed her that this "low resolution" was the maximum the camera could output, and what the book publisher has IS the highest quality that ever existed. Thanks to our metadata, we know it was taken by a Fujifilm digital camera with a whopping 3.1 megapixel chip.
Then I did the math. This employee was...six...when these photographs were taken. She wouldn't have ever experienced a world without the Internet, much less digital cameras, computers (and 5-1/4 inch floppy discs! cartridges! zip disks!), and maybe even cell phones. I doubt she had a walkman and probably not even a discman, given that the iPod debuted in 2001, and other digital music players were already on the market.
I do think it's funny, though, that I watched this whole rise and fall of analog and digital media consumer hardware happen, and so my understanding of the technical capabilities of the era are so internalized that I expect everyone to make the same inferences. Gotta check my assumptions. :)
And yes, I am old.

this scene (super early draft, wrote it last night and today, subject to revisions!!) probably happens a bit before that last one i'd posted titled 'still alive' with some tweaks to how they flow together, linked into a scene I've started where the bakugous end up coming by to cause even more sad feels. these two snips plus the brief still-under-construction BK cryfest should be most of what i have planned for a follow-up chapter at the end of glitch. it establishes a few tiny (probably unimportant don't worry about it at all) details that come back around in accidental vigilante.
The TV is off when Izuku blinks back to reality some undeterminable time later. He licks at his lips. His mouth is terribly dry.
“Mom?”
The sound that trips out of his throat sounds little better than a miserable croak.
The house is dead silent.
The lights are still on.
His fingers twitch, aching from the harsh grip he’s had on the TV remote.
It’s stuck to his palm.
His thumb is still settled over the power button.
Ah.
The remote clatters against the table as he stands.
Her shoes are still missing, so she must still be-
out.
His vision fuzzes as he stares into the mid-distance.
His thoughts wander. Fleeting and brief, they bounce through a hundred thoughts without bothering to settle upon a single thing.
He stands there for a few minutes before he realizes he needs to do something with himself.
When he runs out of things to dust, tidy, and wash, he starts hanging the laundry to dry.
His thoughts are mostly empty and at relative mindless peace by the time his mom gets home.
She pauses by the door, forgetting to remove her shoes as she stares at him from across the room.
He feels frozen in place by the evidence that’s wrecked her normally cheerful expression with a red nose and puffy, bloodshot eyes.
Maybe he should have left while he had the chance.
She crosses the room in a few quick strides and throws her arms around him.
“Oh, baby,” she murmurs, though it’s terribly muffled by the way she’s shoved her face against his chest. He breathes out a long sigh and tentatively hugs her.
He’s not sure how he should feel.
Sad, probably?
Angry--  likely.
Lost … definitely.
“Katsuki, he’s-” she starts to explain, but he squeezes his arms around her sharply, cutting her words into a squeak.
“Don’t. I know.” He doesn’t know, not for certain, but he can damned well make an educated guess. “We have some leftovers still. Let’s eat those before it gets any later.”
He doesn’t think he should feel like the adult right now, but maybe of the two of them, he’s the one that’s a little more numb to accepting of the horrible fact that heroes can die.
Hero students can die.
Students can die.
He could have died.
She sniffles and nods against his chest.
She clings a little as he leads her back into the kitchen. They heat and plate up something simple, then she settles back into the couch with a wobbly exhale that sounds like she’s on the verge of tears again.
He quietly watches her until she resolutely stuffs a bite into her mouth to chew. (He hates to think how she’d react if it had been him, instead.)
Not really interested in eating right now, he sets his plate on the short table between them and opens his laptop for a fresh distraction.
He checks his email.
That seems safe enough. Probably.
He cringes at a note from one of his teachers about an assignment he’d left incomplete. The message is brief and to the point, with inference that quitting midway through some of the projects they’ve been assigned could lead to dangerous situations.
But neglecting to finish poking around for new clues on a cold case? Yeah, the criminal(s) were thought to be a serial killer, but they hadn’t been active in several years.
This incomplete assignment seems pretty small and insignificant in light of all the people that died just days prior. As much as he wants to distract himself with the interesting (and sad) details of the cold case he’d been looking into, this more immediate problem seems more deserving of his attention.  Like the building he’d been standing next to which had exploded so soon after he’d fled, or the weird thing that barely missed taking off his face as he stared into an unnamed hero’s horrified eyes. And the authorities that now want to ‘talk’ to him?
His mom flicks on the television. They’re still running the segment asking for any information on the unidentified individual shown in the security camera.
His mom nearly drops her plate as she whirls to stare at him with wide eyes.
“Izuku.”
…The incomplete assignment continues to be neglected.
side note, i'm toying around with possible Izuku disguises so if you've ever cringed at Izuku wearing non-gender-conforming outfits you might want to go find something else to read because author writes whatever the hell she wants to but ily anyways

Do we know if Matt was blipped or not? How do you think it would be in either case?
AAAAAAA
So yeah, I wrote out a whole essay about how I think Born Again could/should/shouldn't address the blip, and then realized you weren't actually specifically asking about Born Again.
Sorry!
But there are some general non-Born-Again-specific points here, so...I hope this covers what you were asking?
Ahem.
I don't think we have any confirmation one way or the other yet, and I wonder if Born Again will address it. It's been long enough since the blip that I could see them kinda just...ignoring it, unless the blip is a big plot device. But if they want to stick closer to the gritty realism of the original show, it makes sense to not make the blip a big plot device. So I would be very understanding (and even, I think, appreciative) if they chose to just kinda ignore it.
That said, if they include it, I really hope they address the legal implications. TFATWS tried to touch on it (operative word being "tried") but Matt could actually take on clients who've been displaced by the blip or otherwise been affected by the blip.
And then there's the question of how it would affect our characters personally. There, the logistical questions (e.g. "Did Matt lose his apartment?") are less interesting to me, personally, than the psychological questions. Like, how would Matt feel about being blipped? My headcanon, as addressed in my post-No-Way-Home fic, is that Matt would blame himself for not being around to help people for 5 years. Or if Matt wasn't blipped, how would he cope with the trauma of hearing so many people vanish, and then trying to deal with the aftermath as both a lawyer and Daredevil? Like, that man would probably go a week without sleeping just trying to help everyone. Either way, Born Again could address that.
However, it would take a lot of work for Born Again to address the psychological impact of the blip, one way or the other, well. Why? Because your options are either:
a) inform the audience after the fact (e.g. through exposition, dialogue, or inferences) about how, exactly, the blip was traumatic for Matt, so that we can appreciate his healing journey; or
b) show the audience (e.g. through a flashback) how the blip was traumatic for Matt, so that we can appreciate his healing journey.
And both approaches are kinda clunky. Informing the audience about something we didn't actually experience with the character will never be as impactful as watching it unfold. But flashbacks pull the narrative backwards rather than advancing it, and are notorious for bogging down a story.
Frankly, I just don't have a lot of faith that Disney can pull off a blip arc well. I'd much prefer they focus Matt's emotional journey on things that are happening to him now, in Born Again, rather than on things that happened somewhere between the Netflix show and Born Again.
Unless:
c) Born Again is literally set immediately after the blip (if Matt doesn't get blipped) or immediately after Matt blips back (if he does get blipped).
That would be fine, except I don't know how that would affect Born Again's relationship to other Marvel projects like No Way Home, She-Hulk, Echo, etc. And, I mean, personally, I don't care whether Born Again is before or after any of those other shows. I'm watching Born Again for Matt, not to see how it syncs up with Matt going to California to see Jen or anything like that. But Marvel at least claims to be serious about cohesive timelines, so I don't think they'll go the route of (c).

Hello tumblr, here is my argument for why James is still alive at the end of IWWV:
So I’ll start with James’s last words to Oliver when asked where he is going: “Hell. Del Norte. Nowhere. I don’t know.”
It can be presumed that when he says Hell, he means death (he almost certainly would believe he was going to Hell after he died). “Nowhere” could also be a reference to what might happen after death: absolute oblivion. Del Norte is a seemingly obscure answer (until later), but nevertheless, it is a physical place James could travel to. So he basically has two options: death or Del Norte, and his “I don’t know” solidifies that he has yet to make up his mind.
***
Fast forward to when Oliver receives James’s letter containing this passage:
Alas, the sea hath cast me on the rock,
Wash’d me from shore to shore, and left me breath
Nothing to think on but ensuing death.
What I have been I have forgot to know;
But what I am, what teaches me to think on:
A man throng’d up with cold: my veins are chill,
And have no more life than may suffice
To give my tongue that heat to ask your help;
Which if you shall refuse, when I am dead,
For that I am a man, pray see me buried.
Oliver recalls that James had recited this passage while they were on the beach together in Del Norte. *So James’s earlier comment about Del Norte was not random* This seems to confirm that James ultimately decided to go to Del Norte after he left Oliver (and did not drowned himself). Why else would he have brought up Del Norte in his goodbye AND include this relevant passage?
***
Furthermore, the passage contains more proof that James is alive.
On first glance, the diction in the passage seems to point towards James’s death; “Alas, the sea hath cast me on the rock, / Wash’d me from shore to shore, and left me breath / Nothing to think on but ensuing death... A man throng’d up with cold: my veins are chill, / And have no more life than may suffice...”
But the facade of death would be necessary should anyone other than Oliver open the letter.
***
The passage is spliced together from two lines spoken by Pericles in Pericles, Prince of Tyre Act 2, Scene 1.
He has been shipwrecked, is almost dead, and asks a group of fishermen to help him. They do, Pericles is saved from the water, and is introduced to his love, Thaisa.
Later in the play, Thaisa is presumed dead at childbirth and her body is thrown overboard a ship. Her body, however, washes up on shore, and she is revived.
At the end of the play, Pericles and Thaisa are reunited after years apart—wherein Pericles believed Thaisa to be dead—and the play ends happily.
***
This is the only play with a happy ending that has a significant role in IWWV. Throughout the book, the character’s lives have reflected the plots of the plays they are performing. Therefor, it can be inferred that James and Oliver’s lives will mirror the plot of Pericles.
It could just be coincidence that James chooses a passage from a play wherein the lovers are reunited after one has been presumed dead at sea for years... but our of everything Shakespeare ever wrote, this seems to be an odd choice for James’s final goodbye to Oliver, and, as Oliver said, “...the implications of the text and its small part in our story are impossible to ignore, too critical for a scholar as meticulous as James to overlook.”
James is trying to tell Oliver, in a way he knows only Oliver will understand, that they will be reunited and have a happy ending together.
***
I’ll also add that in Act 1, Scene 1 of IWWV—a scene wherein Oliver is actively learning a Pericles monologue—Oliver says that James would be the Cressida to his Troilus because he was the only one pretty enough. That makes James Thaisa in this story; Oliver will realize he is alive after years of thinking James was drowned.
***
Also, I can’t ignore the line, “But that is how a raggedy like ours or King Lear breaks your heart—by making you believe that the ending might still be happy, until the very last minute.”
This is what Oliver says having not yet read James’s letter—and it is certainly true of the story up until the epilogue.
IWWV is all about subverting and challenging the structure of Shakespearean tragedy, though. Therefor, it makes sense that this story would make you think it’s a tragedy, until the very last minute. This is the only way the final page and that quote work together.
***
So there you have it. James is alive and living as a recluse in Del Norte, waiting for Oliver to come and save him.
