Skull is happy and safe now. But sometimes, the worst habits are the hardest to break.
(Short thing I cooked up while feeling sad. It's pretty angsty, and involves dealing with family death, so be warned, but it has a bittersweet happy ending.)
---
“... Skull?”
...
He didn’t respond. He sat there, staring at the front door, motionless and silent. He’d been like that for almost two hours.
You sat beside him, but he made no move to greet you. He didn’t seem to realise you were even there. It was only when you touched the top of his hand, gently, that he spoke, iris trained unwaveringly on the door.
“... crooks’ll be home soon.” He mumbled.
Ah. Your chest ached... it was one of those days.
... Crooks was Skull’s younger brother. His only family. Skull had told you a lot about him, over the course of your time together- he told you about raising Crooks himself, a consequence of losing their parents at a very young age. He told you about taking care of Crooks before he even knew how to take care of himself. He told you about teaching him to read, to write, to cook, to use magic. He told you about Crooks’ love of puzzles and logic games, his bombastic personality and endless kindness, the hours he spent pouring over junior jumble. He told you about how when his own depressive episodes became too much, Crooks kept him from slipping. He told you about how, since before he could remember, it had always been the two of them. They were an inseparable pair.
...
Crooks had fallen to hopelessness, in the Underground. Only a few years before the Monsters were freed.
... Skull didn’t talk much about those last years. You didn’t ask. But Skull clearly never recovered from losing the last piece of his family. Deluding himself into believing that his brother was simply ‘out’ and would come home soon was his only way of coping. Of surviving.
Even now, he still wasn't good at being alone.
Skull was better, on the surface. He had new friends and acquaintances. New routines, new comforts. He had you- his partner. But sometimes, when he had bad days, he would slip back into the mental patterns that had kept him alive for so long.
... You wondered how many hours Skull had spent, alone in a silent home, down in the Underground. Waiting for Crooks to come back. Staring blankly at a door that would never open again.
...
You took his hand in both of yours. You played gently with his worn, cracked bones... giving him a little more time in a world where his brother was still alive.
...
“Skull?” You said, softly. “... I’m a bit hungry. Could you make me something?”
That was the only thing that ever worked.
...
His eyelight shifted. Then blossomed a little wider... his mouth started to make minute movements, like he was sleeptalking.
“... hungry.” He eventually said aloud. His hand twitched, then carefully curled around yours- he sounded like he still wasn’t all there.
“Yes.”
“... she’s hungry...” His eyelight flickered again. “... get up... she’s... hungry...”
Skull swayed slightly, then stood. You stood with him... he lumbered to the kitchen, but kept a tight hold of your hand, taking you with him.
...
He was already cutting the steak, when you saw him ‘wake up’.
There was a noticeable pause, in his ministrations. The previously almost-robotic movements of the knife slowed to a halt. You saw his eyelight shiver... he blinked, then started slowly looking around at the room.
His line of sight focused on a vase full of flowers. The two of you had set those up, around the house, always within line of sight. Things that would remind him he’s on the surface now.
Two seconds. Three, four...
...
“... sorry.” He mumbled, putting the knife down. There he was; Skull was back. He seemed embarrassed.
“Hey, hey.” You squeezed his hand. “No, don’t apologise. It’s okay. You just needed a minute.”
He sighed, forlorn. “i cut up our good steak...”
“Well. I’d rather you handled that steak than me. I don’t trust myself with something so nice.”
He snorted, trying to hold back his laughter. When he looked at you, his eyelight was big and shiny, and you felt a smile creep onto your face.
“... might as well cook it anyway.” He mumbled, taking the knife up again. “expensive steak for lunch, huh?”
“I’m not complaining.”
Another snort. He was grinning now.
He didn’t let go of your hand... you were impressed he cooked the whole meal one-handed.

Birthday Wishes - Arthur Leclerc
Tumblr media
<word count - 1657>
Tonight was going to be the third date you would have with Arthur, and you were beyond excited. You had immensely enjoyed the other two dates you had been on with him, and he truly was one of the sweetest guys you had ever had the pleasure of meeting.
He had said he was going to meet you at the restaurant, so you got yourself ready so that you could be there a bit early. You didn't want to come across as too eager, but being early never hurt anyone.
Thankfully, the restaurant was a short walk from your apartment, so you set off in the mild Monaco sunset. When you arrived and walked into the restaurant, you scanned the room, but there was no sign of Arthur anywhere.
You walked up to the front of house, ready to ask for the table since you assumed he wasn't there yet. "Hi, how can I help you?" the kind faced lady at the desk asked with a smile.
"I've got a reservation for two, I'm pretty sure it should be under Leclerc?" you asked, remembering that Arthur had told you about the reservations. "I think someone is already here, follow me," she said, walking out through the restaurant and taking you to one of the tables near the back.
Then you spotted Arthur, sweetly smiling at you as you approached. His eyes were glued to you through your every move, not able to get over how stunning you looked. He scrambled to stand and greet you as the waitress walked away.
"Hey, wow, you look absolutely incredible," he complimented, pulling you in for a hug and kissing your cheeks.
"Thank you very much," you blushed, never getting used to him complimenting you. "How are you?" you asked as he pulled your chair out for you - just like a true gentleman. "I'm great thanks, you?" He countered, pushing your chair in before sitting back down on his own. "Yeah, good thanks," you nodded, picking up the menu.
Both of you ordered what you wanted, and you were glad to be able to talk to him. "What have you been up to today?" you asked, gazing at him from across the table. "All of my family came over, like my Mom and my brothers, so it was pretty hectic," he smiled, his dimples becoming more prominent.
"Any special occasion?" you asked, knowing that the whole of his family was often very busy within the world of motorsports. "It's actually my birthday today," He sheepishly said, emitting the detail that he'd rescheduled family dinner to come out with you.
"Arthur! You should've told me, we could've done something more special," you playfully scolded with feigned anger.
"Being with you is special enough for me," he quietly muttered, so quiet, in fact, that you barely heard it. You weren't even sure if you were meant to hear it, so you smiled warmly at him.
From across the table, Arthur took your hand and held it in his, your fingers slotting together like pieces of a puzzle. "Happy birthday, Arthur," you said as his thumb mindlessly ran up and down your skin. "Thank you, Y/N," he responded.
A few moments later, an idea popped into your head. "Excuse me for a second, I've got to use the bathroom," you said, standing and walking in the direction of the bathroom. When you were certain that Arthur couldn't see you, you slipped off to the front of house.
"Excuse me, it's my friend's birthday today, and I was wondering if we could do something for it?" you asked, approaching the desk, "I know I should have given notice, but I only just found out it's his birthday, sorry," you rushed, not wanting them to feel pressured.
"Of course we can, you're with the young man in the corner, yes?" she confirmed, and you were excited to see what they had up their sleeve.
"Yes, thank you so much!" you thanked, walking back the way you came to avoid suspicion from Arthur. "Ah you're back, I was starting to think you'd ran away from me," He joked, glad to have you back.
He had dated a fair few girls recently, but none of them could bring him the same sense of calm and contention like you could. It was like a strange feeling of familiarity, even if he hadn't known you long.
"I couldn't run from you, especially on your birthday," you lightly chuckled, taking his hand back in yours from across the table.
The two of you finished your main courses, and your plates were cleared away. You kept on looking over his shoulder to spot if they were coming, but you were trying to not make it look obvious.
Arthur just assumed you'd seen a famous person - you were in Monaco after all. "Look, I know tonight is far from over, but I was just wondering if-" He started, but was interrupted by you starting to sing happy birthday as one of the waitresses appeared in front of you with a cake.
There was a sparkler, spitting sparks of light up in little shoots of orange. Of course, there were the usual candles, their crimson flames dancing in the still air of the restaurant. A few people around you joined in as you sang, the cake being placed in front of Arthur.
His face was lit up, but you couldn't tell if it was the candles or the pure joy in his near Cheshire cat grin. He couldn't help but stare at you through the flames, wondering how he manged to be on a date with someone so thoughtful.
As the song came to a close, you told him, "Make a wish! But don't tell me, or else it won't come true,". Arthur didn't even have to think twice about what his wish was going to be, and he blew out the candles as people around cheered for him.
The other diners in the restaurant resumed the normal operations of the night, and the smile on his face was priceless. Every ounce of joy he had in his body was being put on full display for you to see. "I'll say it now, I don't know what kind of cake this is, so I'm sorry if you don't like it," you nervously chuckled, not having thought that through before.
"It could be my least favourite in the world and I am still going to eat it since you went through the effort to get it for me," he said, not really caring how cliche it sounded as the words left his mouth. "Would you like a slice?" He asked, picking the candles and sparklers out of the sponge.
"Yes please," you chirped, passing him your plate, "But birthday boy gets the first slice, I don't make the rules," you laughed, holding your arms up defensively.
"You're right, but, I think the birthday boy has the complete authority to overturn that rule when there is a beautiful lady in front of him who deserves the cake more," he said, plating up a slice for you and passing it over to you.
"Unfortunately, I can't argue with the birthday boy, so I will just have to deal with the burden of having the first slice," you laughed with feigned hurt, waiting for him to get his slice before starting yours. "And, luckily for you, chocolate just so happens to be my favourite," he said, swallowing his mouthful of pillowy chocolate sponge.
"I didn't get a choice, so I'm glad you like it," you told him. It was the thought that counted, but there was just a certain feeling that getting your favourite cake on your birthday provoked.
"Thank you for this, I really appreciate it," he said, unable to quash the tingling feeling that spread across his chest, and the butterflies that fluttered around in his stomach. He felt this way on your first date, but the intensity increased every time he saw you.
You collared the waiter over to pay the bill, fully prepared to pay for dinner as the present you weren't able to give him since you had only just found out that it was his birthday. "Oh, no, allow me," he dismissed the unspoken offer, gently pushing your hand away from the card reader.
"It's your birthday, the least I can do is get you dinner," you told him, going for the machine again. "And because it's my birthday, I want to treat you," he said, quickly tapping it on the reader with a beep.
"Next time, it's on me," you told him, with a stern yet playful tone to your voice. You had said that after your first date, and your second, but he clearly wasn't one for listening to your instruction.
You stayed for a short while after, discussing what you were getting up to the next day, and when you were both free. "After you," he said, opening the door for you as you walked out into the Monaco night.
"Thank you for dinner tonight, I've had a wonderful time," you smiled, standing beside him under the moonlight. "It's my pleasure, I've had a brilliant time too," he told you, watching as your eyes glinted in the luminance of the moon.
It was almost as if all of a sudden, h was bombarded with these overwhelming feelings of love and wonder. He just wanted you.
"Can- Can I?" He asked, leaning in so close that you could feel his breath on your face. His heart was pounding out of his chest so hard you could practically hear it. "Yeah," you nodded, closing the small gap between you.
Your lips came together, and you could still taste the the decadent chocolate on his tongue. Reluctantly, he pulled himself away and gazed into your eyes. "My wish came true," he grinned, hoping his other wishes with you would come true.
A/N - I was writing Charles' birthday thing last night, but then I quickly realised that it was Arthur's birthday today, so I quickly whipped this up. Sorry if it not great... Requests are open as always! Love you 💖

The Point of No Return (Pt. 2)
TW: Technically captivity?, yandere tendencies from Alastor, murder on a technicality, very brief mention of bullets and getting shot
She blinked once. Twice. The sky was red. That didn't seem very right. Wasn't it usually blue?
Y/N sat up, her mind foggy. What happened? She heard someone clear their throat beside her. Oh, right. Him.
Alastor, who, during his life, killed a handful of people and got away with it for years. Alastor, who rose from the depths of Hell to separate her and the man who was quickly becoming more and more aggressive with her. Alastor, who was quite the gentleman, for a demon.
She stared at him, waiting for him to explain to her where they were.
"Welcome to Hell, dearest."
Oh.
OH.
What the fuck?
"Hell? As in, Hell from the Bible?" She sputtered.
"The very same. So sorry to drag you away from the world of the living, but you seemed awfully distressed. That oafish man had zero respect for the daintier members of his species. Not to worry, though. I taught him some manners."
She knew what he'd done. He hadn't taught Henry anything. He'd killed him, and without even laying a finger on him. Without... The pieces fit together in her mind like a puzzle.
"You killed Dave, too, didn't you?" Her mother had taught her not to mumble when asking a question, but she was afraid of the answer.
"Indeed I did! Wow, you're quite the smart cookie."
"Why?"
Alastor's unwavering smile widened.
"To help you, my dear. You seemed so bored. You have an enchanting voice and a wonderful presence, and it was going to waste on the pigs you worked for."
She was going to be sick. This man, this demon who'd returned from the dead, killed because of her. He killed Dave and Henry because he thought she bored, and because he thought she was upset.
Alastor held out an arm for her to hold onto as she stood.
"Listen, Alastor. I... appreciate that you tried to help me, but I need to get back home."
Alastor chuckled. It was a resonant sound, loaded with radio static.
"Dear, you can't go home. You've died."
It felt as though a bullet pierced through Y/N's spinal chord and sent her into shock.
"I what?"
"You're dead. This is your home, now. In order to bring you here with me, your soul had to be bonded to mine. Unfortunately, the trip killed you. Worry not, though. You still look as radiant as you did during your life."
Y/N wanted to scream. She was dead. She was in Hell. Apparently, she and Alastor were tied together by their souls. She reached up to scratch her head, trying to figure out what to do and determine whether or not this was all real or some super fucked up dream. Then, she felt the ears. She really did scream.
"What the fuck is on my head?"
Alastor perked up. "Ah, you mean your ears. Yes. It appears you've developed similar traits to my own. You still look the same as you did on Earth, but now you have the ears and nose of a deer. It's quite endearing."
"Fuck."
"Such a pretty little potty mouth. That's alright, I can learn to live with a few curse words every now and then."
She saw red. How could he not understand that she didn't want to learn to live with him? She wanted to go home. But then, if he was telling the truth and she really was dead, then there was no going home. She plopped down on the ground, put her head in her hands and felt her face heat up as she started to cry.
"Oh, I wasn't really prepared for this strong of a response. Do you need anything from me?"
"I need you to leave me the fuck alone."
Alastor wanted to tell her that it was impossible, now that they were bonded, but he had enough common sense to know to keep his mouth shut. Instead, he just sat down beside on the ground and quietly waited for her to stop crying.
She sniffled and looked up at him, wiping her nose.
"Come now, dear. I think I know a place that might cheer you up."
~
It's short but I really wanted to crank it out. There will be a part three soon.

Here we go again,
Puzzles/ jigsaws would confuse Aliens so much
Set on the serpentine, beginning of the humans tenure
Important crew:
Primoz, captain -Limoyh a four armed species-Krag, second in command (brother of Primoz)
Kit, dokter -avian, bird like, she has feathers like a swallow-
Ortez, ASR (all species resources, human resources in space) -kiltak, insectoid species, think ants but exoskeleton-
Lugea, helmsperson (does the steering) -rock like alien-
Artex, engineer/mechanic 1 -also Kiltak-
And then our humans:
Kamari, navigator -Eritrean woman- (has cat named Sidra)
Markus, weapons expert (knows how to use them and upkeep, also shields) -Swedish man-
Petrus, mechanic/engineer 2 - Italian man-
Lilly, administrator/note keeper (learns languages for fun)-english woman-
~~~~~~~
Puzzles
The serpentine is on route between trading posts, this is currently the furthest route without proper jump point because of the static energy surrounding the dual planets castor and pollux.
Primoz is getting worried. The humans are becoming increasingly more jittery and Kamari looks like she a pinch away from punch someone, Markus has been ‘humming’ a song that annoys her greatly. Honestly the noises the tall man is making don’t seem that bad but every few minutes her eyebrows twitch which Ortez told him is a sign of frustration.
Before the captain can figure out how to keep them from doing something deathworld worthy, Lilly comes in with precariously stacked carton boxes and Petrus carrying a table. Setting the pile down the smallest human straightens out “look what i brought! Old earth puzzles! This one has a deer and this one has the old world wonders” immediately the humming stops and Markus is at the table with Petrus “oh yes Lilly you are the best! I wanna do the deer one, that is gonna be a challenge”
With the table in the corner of the bridge the tension among crew is nearly gone, as all species try to put the cut apart pictures together, Lilly brought 9 puzzles and at a certain point a competition was forming: after one of the human unit had finished a puzzle the other crew try to make it in less time. They have yet to win.
Looking at his relaxed crew Primoz grins at his brother who is trying to use all his four arms to put pieces together without much succes. Turning away from the competition he taps Lilly on her shoulder “how do you guys do it? Also why did you think to take these things with you.” Lilly looks up from her drawing (the crew bent over the table making the puzzle) “well i knew it was going to be a long trip, Kamari thinks Markus will be ‘professional’ but he can’t help himself” her soft smile when she puts air punctuation around professional makes her look much younger than she is “puzzles are something many humans enjoy, not everyone is as good at them as Markus, but he does this thing where he uses the shape of them more than colours. While he isn’t colour blind, he has real trouble with telling differences in shades. No idea why it works this well but it does, Petrus has already won three nights of free drinking on Castor from betting.” All of a sudden looking bashful Lilly ducks her head “ah eh yes sorry forget i said that we don’t bet on this at all!” Primoz just grins “nobody has broken anything this whole trip, im not going to disrupt the flow you and your unit created. Don’t worry.”
At arrival Petrus has won the whole human crew free drinks for the foreseeable future, and the crew in its entirety hooked on puzzles. While not all species see the colours the same way or understand the patterning in the pieces the feeling of putting in the correct pieces makes it such an enjoyable activity that Lilly brings new puzzles after every holiday back home.
~~~~~~~~~
This one was born out of the confusion my family had when we were making puzzles (jigsaws?) the pictures in pieces… this is where it becomes super clear English is not my first language. Anyway, we had two puzzles out and they were so surprised i could differentiate the positions the pieces needed to be in without context. I had to tell them that the pattern otherwise won’t make sense,
I have the same thing as Markus that colours are fine unless you put several of the same colours next to each other and call them different. This is why the deer one is super hard,
The two puzzles that were described:

Tumblr media
Raiden had the biggest crush on you. It was obvious to you and everyone but in his defense, he was trying to get over you.
In Outworld, Empress Mileena was having an event at the palace so you and your Earthrealm friends were invited.
Raiden had actually brought a date. Her name was Stacy and she was the newest recruit to the Wu Shi Academy.
You couldn’t stand their relationship. Something inside of you hated the thought of Raiden being with another woman.
But why did you care? You didn’t even like him. (Or so you thought.)
Raiden excused himself from the group. He gave Stacy a kiss on the cheek and walked away to speak to Liu Kang.
It was just you and Stacy with your fellow Earthrealm friends behind you a little ways. “So, you and Raiden huh?” You asked, trying to be nice.
Stacy smiled at you. “Yeah isn’t he something?”
The tone she had was condescending. You didn’t like it. “Sure.”
“It’s just sometimes, I kinda hate it when he talks. He’s like so overly nice.”
You laughed understanding where she was coming from. “Yeah, I hear you on that one.”
Stacy shrugged a little. “I mean but I figure it’s all worth it if he buys me whatever I want.”
That statement kind of bothered you. Even though Raiden was annoyingly nice, you didn’t think he deserved for someone to use him. “You gotta think about that. I mean, Raiden doesn’t really get into relationships-“
“That’s not surprising.” Stacy told you. When you looked at her confused, she laid it out clear as day for you. “I mean, he’s an idiot.”
Something about that bothered you. You had no idea why it bothered you so much. The way she insulted Raiden made your skin boil.
You felt your fist clench into a ball. That’s when you knew you couldn’t stop your anger. “Ah no…”
Stacy looked at you confused. You had took one step back and then a step forward. You swung your fist in the air and connected it with her face.
She fell to the ground. Knocked out cold. Your Earthrealm friends that were around you looked at you and gasped. “Holy shit…” Johnny said.
Raiden came back to the scene and you mentally cursed at yourself. “(Y/N), what happened?!”
You were still in shock that you had actually done that. “Just somebody…and the girl said ‘idiot’ then it was nothing.”
Raiden looked at Stacy and then back at you trying to piece it together. He then let out a short gasp as he had mentally put the puzzle pieces together. “She called me an idiot and you hit her didn’t you?”
You looked at him full of regret at what you had just did. You did not want to make it known that you had punched a girl for Raiden. “No…” Raiden was smiling like a school kid in love. You rolled your eyes and pushed past him. “Move.”
You did not have feelings for him. You couldn’t.
You made it to the buffet. Mileena was standing right next to you. “(Y/N), I saw what happened. Is your lover okay?”
When she had said that, you turned to her annoyed. “My lover?”
“Yeah that infuriatingly humble one you’re always hanging around with.” She tried to think of the name and it suddenly came to her. “Oh. Raiden.”
This could not be happening. “He’s not my ‘lover’, Empress.”
“Are you sure?”
The fact that Mileena of all people was saying this annoyed you to no end. “Yes I’m sure. I don’t like him. He’s humble, and nice, and caring, and too sunshine’s and rainbows. He’s everything that I hate.”
Mileena looked at you as if she didn’t understand. “But (Y/N), I thought you hated everything.”
“What’s that suppose to mean?”
“Well maybe it means you like him because I kinda think you do.”
You were putting your foot down with this. There was no way in a million years that you could ever like Raiden. The two of you weren’t compatible at all. “No. How could I like him? Because I don’t like him. Because I can’t like him. Empress Mileena, if I like him-stab me.”
Mileena took out her sai that was in her waistband and motioned to you. “Which arm do you wish for me to stab?”
You gave her a very irritated look. No. You were gonna prove you did not have feelings for Raiden. One way or another.
You marched away from the buffet and walked over to Raiden and the rest of your Earthrealm friends. Stacy was nowhere to be in sight. “Raiden come on. We’re going on a freaking date.”
Raiden choked on the drink. All your Earthrealm friends turned to you in shock. Kung Lao patted Raiden’s back to help the drink go down more smoothly. “I’m sorry. What did you say?” Raiden asked as he could not believe you had said it.
“Come on before I change my mind.” You did not need to tell Raiden twice. Raiden was immediately out his seat and rushing out the palace with you.
Tumblr media
You and Raiden were actually back in Earthrealm. Raiden had made suggestions where the two of you could go out on the way and he tried to pick the most romantic places he possibly could.
Obviously you were not into that at all and instead you settled with watching a movie at your place. Raiden did not refuse.
You didn’t even know if this was going to work. The two of you were complete opposites. How would this ever work?
The two of you watched the horror movie and ate the popcorn in the bowl. You guys had barely spoke.
“This is the best date I’ve ever been on.” Raiden said.
When he had said that, you gave him a look. “Raiden, we haven’t talked for thirty minutes.”
Raiden shrugged, not bothered. “That’s okay. I don’t mind. I understand you.”
You raised a brow at him. “Oh? You understand me?”
He nodded. “You’re probably thinking…I can’t believe I’m giving this idiot a chance. The guy that really, really likes me. And you’re probably wondering…how could this ever work? We’re completely different. Maybe he’ll break my heart.”
Everything he had said was true. Up until the last part. You sighed some and leaned back a little. “Maybe I’ll break your heart.” Raiden turned to look at you when you said that. “Raiden, I’m tough. I’m not really the ideal girlfriend you bring home to mom and dad and…I’m selfish, I’m cold, and sometimes I just completely shut down. You won’t be able to handle it.”
Raiden stayed silent. He grabbed your hand and rubbed it gently. “I think you’re being too hard on yourself.” You looked at his hand on yours. Raiden saw your eyes and thought you were uncomfortable. So he took his hand away. “I’m sorry.”
Secretly, you liked the way Raiden was so sweet. Especially towards you. It was a relief to your cold nature.
You scooted closer to Raiden. You grabbed his arm and made him wrap the arm around you shoulders. Raiden smiled at you. “Don’t get too happy.”
Raiden chuckled and turned back to the movie. “Never.”
The two of you continued to watch the movie. Raiden had jumped at a jump scare, spilling the popcorn. You had laughed at him. “You’re such a wuss.”
Raiden cleared his throat, adjusting himself. “I am not.”
“Yes you are. Earthrealm’s champion can’t handle a scary movie?”
“It was surprising not scary.”
“Whatever you say.”
Raiden’s smile did not break. “You know, the more you talk the more annoyed I get.”
You gasped at him, hitting him in his chest. “I am not annoying. You’re annoying.”
“I don’t think so.”
The two of you stared into each others eyes. It was like time had stopped. Raiden cupped the left side of your face as he stared into your eyes like he was seeing your soul.
He had looked more beautiful to you than any other time you had seen him and you couldn’t explain why.
The two of you leaned in and kissed.
Raiden tasted like sweet chapstick and buttery popcorn. It was addicting. You had brought your own hand to reach for the back of his neck and pulled him deeper.
The sweet kiss you two shared quickly turned sloppy. You took the lead and were licking over his bottom lip and biting on it.
Raiden moaned at you biting on his lip. You started to suck his bottom lip and when you released, it made a ‘popping’ noise.
The two of you pulled away and just looked at each other.
That was the best kiss you ever had.
You immediately removed the popcorn from his lap and placed it on the table. You then got on top of his lap and started to make out with him then.
Raiden’s hands snaked up along side your back. You kissed him full of anticipation and hunger. The hat he wore knocked off of him.
Your hips started to grind into Raiden’s private and he groaned at the sensation. “Wait a second.” Raiden pulled away from your lips and looked at you. “Are we really doing this?”
“Do you not want to?”
“No, no, no. I do.” When he said that, you started to kiss his neck. “I just want to make sure-oh-that you want to.”
“Yes. One hundred percent.” You pulled away from his neck and went to take your shirt off. When you did it left you in your red bra.
Raiden stared at you like you were the only woman in the world. He felt his mouth become watery. His hands rested on your hips as you grinder them into him. He threw his head back in pleasure.
You moaned a little as your clit felt some friction through your shorts.
Raiden picked you up and laid you on the couch so he was on top of you. He gripped onto your shorts and looked at you for confirmation. “Is this okay?” You nodded to him and he took them off of you. Then he took your underwear off.
He licked his fingers making sure they were really wet before placing the fingers against your clit. He was surprised to see you were already wet for him.
“If you say some cheesy line of how I’m already wet for you, I’m gonna stab you.”
He chuckled at what you said and just started to rub your clit in circles. You moaned at him. Raiden moved slow but effective.
Raiden leaned down and kissed you on the lips. You moaned in his mouth. He felt himself grow in his pants but he wasn’t concerned with himself at the moment. He was concerned with you.
His lips went to your neck and you moaned at how sweet he was kissing you. Like you were made of glass.
You didn’t want to wait for Raiden anymore. You wanted him now. “I’m ready. Come on.”
Raiden stopped rubbing your clit and stuck his fingers in your pussy to check for a reaction if you were tight. When he didn’t receive one, he pumped his fingers just a little before taking them out of you. Then he licked all over his fingers.
He found your taste to be delicious. He wasn’t expecting for you to taste that good.
Instead of Raiden undressing himself, he went in between your legs and started to eat you out.
You gasped at the sudden feeling of Raiden’s tongue on your throbbing pussy. He did slow like licks before mercilessly sucking your clit like he was in love with you.
Your hand’s immediately pulled at his hair. He was sucking your swollen clit so much that you were trying to pull away from him.
Raiden held your thighs to keep you in place. He was moaning at the taste of you and Raiden moaning in between your legs made you moan.
“Raiden. Oh god.”
He kept eating you as if it was his last meal. He couldn’t get enough. Raiden needed more.
The champion pulled out from your heat and looked up at you. “Sit on my face.”
You were a little stunned by his request. You definitely weren’t expecting that. Especially with his shy nature. “What?”
“I want you to sit on my face.” Raiden repeated like he said the most normal thing in the world.
You blinked a little but followed his request. You stood up from the couch and Raiden laid down on his back. Then you hovered your pussy over his face.
You were a little scared that you were gonna crush him but Raiden forced you to sit fully on him. His hands rested on your ass and thighs and he began to eat you out again.
This was a position you were not familiar with but you loved it none the less. Raiden had more access to slurp all your juices.
Your nails gripped onto the couch. Raiden was eating you like he was going to die the next day. Again, Raiden was moaning at the taste of your pussy.
He moved down some. Then he grabbed your hips and positioned your body where your clit could be in contact with his nose and he made you ride his face.
You gasped slightly at this. You tried to help him as much as you could but the sensitivity you had with your clit that was constantly pushing up against Raiden’s nose was too much.
Raiden noticed this and did mainly all of the work. He guided your hips to rock back and forth constantly. “Oh my god. Raiden. Please.”
He moaned at your begging. That gave him enough motivation. He was going to make you cum all over his mouth.
Riding his face was sending you over the top. You felt the feeling come into your stomach. “Oh my god. Please Raiden. I’m almost there.”
He didn’t break his pace and kept going. Hoping you would cum all in his mouth. When your clit hit his nose the last time, it was over. “Oh yes. Yes. Yes.”
Raiden kept grinding your hips onto his face until you were done with your orgasm. Though he didn’t stop. He kept licking every part of you even when you were done.
You shuddered at the sensitivity. “No more.” You got up from his face and stood up.
Raiden was slightly disappointed as he still wanted to eat you out. He sat up on the couch. You bent down in front of him and started to take his pants off. “What are you doing?”
“Playing the harmonica.” You stated sarcastically. When you pulled off his pants, you were about to take his underwear off but he stopped you.
“I’m okay.”
You gave him a look. He didn’t want you to give him head? You took his underwear off anyway. Then you sat on his lap. “Well I want to ride you. Is that okay with you?”
Before he could even get a word in, you slid your pussy on his dick. Raiden moaned at the sensation of your pussy clutching onto him like a glove.
You gave him a few kisses on the lips and then started to move on him. Raiden gripped onto your hips and helped you move on top of him. “Oh my. (Y/N).”
You went a bit faster on him. Raiden was in a panting mess. So much so that he couldn’t even concentrate on you moving on him anymore. “That’s right baby. Say my name.”
Raiden didn’t know he was going to be this much of a moaning mess under you. He thought he could be at least slightly dominant but he couldn’t. He was completely and utterly submissive to you.
The more your pussy clenched on him, the closer Raiden felt to his release. “(Y/N). Just like that. Don’t stop.”
“Aw, you wanna cum baby?”
“Please. Please, (Y/N).”
“Tell me how much you need me and I’ll think about it.”
Raiden should’ve known you would do this to him. His grip on your hips softened up as he was a complete mess under you. “I need you so bad. Please, (Y/N). I need to.”
You kissed all over his neck and sucked on all his sweet spots. He moaned loudly at all your touches. “So needy.” You said in his neck.
Raiden felt a little embarrassed because you had just started and he was already almost there. “Oh gods. I can’t.”
“Yes you can baby. Go ahead and cum in me. Make me a mama.”
That sent Raiden over the edge. He moaned loudly as he came hard. You rode him completely until he was done cumming.
You got up from him. You grabbed your panties and started to put them on.
Raiden sat there for a moment and looked at you curiously. “So does that mean…?”
“Yes, we’re together.” You placed your shirt over your head. “I don’t do flowers, hand holding, and don’t get me anything romantic.”
Raiden was excited that you were actually giving him a chance. He started to pull his underwear and pants up. “Got it.”
“Good.” When you finished putting your clothes on, you looked at him. “Also, I’m getting a Plan B. I was just chatting about being a mama.”
Raiden chuckled a little. “I figured.”
This relationship would be interesting…

***Spoilers ahead!!!***
Note: this is just a general summary of what has happened so far and my initial reactions to those major events. I focused my comments on whatever interests me the most (ie lore and funny character interactions), so there are definitely details that were overlooked and lines that were simplified to make a joke; please do not rely on this as a translation.
Big thanks to @shuuenmei and @curekibouka-writing for clarifying the more confusing tracks of the story (some parts were difficult to follow the sequence of events for) and the details of the✨ deep lore ✨ It was fun screaming with the both of you—
Ah yes, Yuu’s Sleeping Beauty dream right on cue. Finally starting to put together the puzzle pieces, huh (Yuu goes to check on the Great Seven statues to confirm they saw the Fairy of Thorns in their dreams)? About time—
As expected, Sebek loses his mind and tells Yuu to not abuse Malleus’s kindness. He’s also super pissed that Malleus and Yuu act familiar with each other (and over the nickname). Yup, that interaction went about as well as we all predicted…
Not Lilia being the “I’m an anime boy late for anime school (the internship meeting)!” trope 😂 All he needs is some toast in his mouth!
Crowley talks about boring things how the internships will work and we hear more about the areas of interest for the third years.
Lore ✨ Each internship “semester” is 3 months and you can only take certain internships if you qualify for them via your grades, credits, and electives. You can choose to do 3 separate internships (again, 3 months each) or do 1 internship (for all 9 months). A B or higher is needed on two of the “semesters” to graduate. Students must also submit reports each semester. Some places additionally require interviews and/or special tests to be passed before a student is accepted as an intern. Placements are not first-come, first-serve; you need to earn that spot.
Trey says he wants to do something related to pastries or agriculture; basically, things close to food production 🌾 He wants to take advantage of his opportunities as an NRC student while he still can!! Trey said he wants to work right after school rather than go to university.
Cater is interested in the entertainment industry; he mentions magazines and videos?? It seems he isn’t interested in higher education.
HELP they randomly mention that Ace’s older brother interned in the entertainment industry too (it gets brought up when Cater was considering a theme park for his own internship)??? TRAPPOLA NII ALSO CURRENTLY WORKS IN ENTERTAINMENT????? When do we get to meet him, Ace—
Vil is continuing to advance his own career in film. He already picked out a studio to apply for, and expresses an interest in magical pharmaceuticals (though he doesn’t intend on going to college). Very fitting specialties for everyone, I must say!
Rook is interested in archeology so he can learn more about the world! After learning about S.T.Y.X., he realizes there’s so much more he doesn’t yet know. According to Trey, Rook does appear to intend to pursue college/higher level studies.
LMAO at Trey constantly having to translate Rook-isms for everyone 😂 Classic Science Club…
Unca Weona is cwanky cuz the talking is disturbing his nappy—
Leona’s going to a mining and energy facility in his home country. It’s an option offered only to those with high grades. Leona wants to be a lazy ass 🦁 “They won’t fail their prince, lmao”
Idia is doing an software engineering internship at Olympus Corp (ie TWST Google) 👀 This is huge because back at the end of episode 5 (ie the episode 6 preview), Idia was actively rejecting offers from Olympus Corp, claiming that he wasn’t welcome anywhere. Character growth… Idia isn’t welcome back at S.T.Y.X. because of the Overblotting and how it nearly exposed the organization to the public eye LOL 😂 Absentee Shroud parents upset with him cksbskwbkcnfke
Malleus doesn’t seem to be interested in picking an internship; he says that, to him, 3 months is too short a time to really learn anything (temporal dissonance strikes again). In the end, he is going to research historical ruins?? He can hang out with the Gargoyles 😎 and Rollo/j
BRO WHAT ???? Lilia is dropping out of NRC??? THE FUQ,,,,!.’sveksbskebkzvczbvvv?$$$&85inmw I had to hard stop at this scene because it caught me by surprise.
The first years are talking about Mickey (like if there are certain conditions to get him to appear??). Oh god, they're planning a Mickey Mouse stakeout????? AND ORTHO IS INCLUDED IN THE GROUP AWWWW 🥺 He searches his databases and uses his cool robot tech to look for more information about Mickey but finds nothing.
GRIM MAKES A SUS COMMENT ABOUT HOW ORTHO IS MORE HELPFUL WITH THIS (Mickey and Yuu's worlds perhaps being tied or related to one another) THAN CROWLEY IS.
They overhear Sebek shouting in the cafeteria; he’s in disbelief that Lilia is dropping out of school.
So anyway, Lilia’s magic has, in fact, weakened significantly (he was almost late for the internship meeting because he woke up and found that he couldn't teleport). He plans on retiring in the Land of the Crimson Dragon (Mushu???? IS THAT YOU).
Interesting??? It seems that Lilia has been progressively losing his powers since even before Sebek and Silver were born… It’s not a super recent occurrence.
Sebek and Silver are understandably upset and mention that while it would be easy for either of them to visit Lilia, it would be almost impossible for Malleus because he will be so inundated with his royal duties after graduation. Malleus is distraught as well, but he insists that they respect Lilia's decision. AND HE’S LEAVING IN LIKE A WEEK? That’s barely enough time to mourn or to emotionally prepare for the fallout…
Malleus pitches an idea to talk to his grandma to not overwork Lilia (vice dorm leaders being overworked? What? In this game? Nooooooo/s).
Malleus's grandma is name-dropped (Maleficia)??? Is everyone in the Draconia family just Mal-something????
LOTS OF OMINOUS DIALOGUE ("Time is running out", "Fate cannot be defied", etc.)
After that whole conversation it’s clear that something isn’t right (despite Malleus maintaining his calm in front of Diasomnia). As soon as he’s away from them, the weather instantly turns stormy AND we see Malleus's blot accumulating as early as 7-13 in what I assume will be a very meaty episode.
Sebek and Silver help Lilia pack; Silver finds this tin in Lilia’s room. There is an old bracelet of acorns and thread inside.
Lilia shows up and says that it’s the most precious item he’s ever been gifted??? But it’s not clear who it’s from.
Tumblr media
There's another item in the tin (the ring on a chain)! It has a weird effect on Silver?? I think it makes him sleepy???
The gem in the ring is the same color as Silver’s eyes; Lilia thinks its because his parents wanted his eyes to be forever unclouded and pure 🤨 That’s cute and all, but it makes me really suspicious that something super bad will happen later and I’m living for that—
This ring was tied to baby Silver when Lilia found him. He planned on gifting it to Silver when he's finally an adult... and now is that time 😭 Ain’t no way they’re giving us these heartfelt moments only to not tear it down later with something devastating… And?? With the ring being so fancy, there’s no way Silver isn’t descended from some rich family (or even royalty/nobility) himself??? Prince Silver real????/j cuz that ring sure does look like Princess Aurora’s crown…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sebek pulls up with THIS fucking monstrosity?? It’s a weapon (axe???) Lilia used from back in the day (like, in war). However, nowadays he uses it to chop regular shit like wood. The weapon looks very similar to one that Maleficent’s minions use.
It's made out of a special magical ore! It’s called Mystium, and it changes shape according to the wielder’s magic.
Tumblr media
Back to Yuu and co. staking out Mickey! Grim is finally realizing that if Yuu goes home, he’ll be alone 😔 Noooo, fur baby… Don’t be sad..
They wait for a while but get sleepy because Mickey is taking forever to appear. When Yuu wakes up, they see Malleus’s green lights and they go outside to find it’s snowing (again, because of his weird mood). He apologizes and makes the snow vanish, then confides in Yuu about his insecurities.
Malleus tells a story about how he froze the castle and some people when he was a little kid (omg Elsa core???) because because his grandma had promised to eat with him and was late or didn’t show up due to her royal duties keeping her busy. It sounds like even the palace servants were afraid of his power because of incidents like this. Like. It’s kind of implied Malleus almost killed them (Lilia says Malleus almost “lost” those people) with his magic.
Lilia was the only one who came for Malleus to check on him when he was upset, dried his tears, and tried to understand him. He comes over and frees the people that Malleus froze, then everyone starts preparing and eating shaved ice made from the ice encasing the castle (not randomly, I think it was Lilia’s suggestion).
Malleus gets jealous because he saw everyone enjoying food without him and/or he thought Lilia was angry at him. (This is the point when Lilia tells him he has great power so he has to be careful how he uses it, ie the “you almost lost the people that you’re now happily eating with at the hands of your own magic” talk.)
Lilia uses his weapon to make some shaved ice for Malleus and invited him to join in (I think this may be the same weapon Sebek finds in his room in the present???); this helped Malleus “connect” with other people, or at least invited him to join and do the same thing the others were) It’s because of Lilia that Malleus is okay with eating cold things. UM???? HELLO???? Is that why Malleus’s favorite food is ice-cream??? Or at least a part of it?
BTW LONG HAir PONYtAIL LILiA CANON yes I’m way more excited about this than I was about that entire ice story
Tumblr media
Yuu calls Malleus lonely 💀 and Malleus is shocked because he’s so used to being alone that the thought never occurred to him…
Oh no, Malleus learned that Yuu has “found a way home” (ie Rickey Rat hunting) 🙃 he’s like. “You are leaving me as well?” AND RIGHT AFTER HE JUST LEARNED ABOUT LILIA GOING… Lilia, who has been with Malleus ever since he hatched from his egg…
Friends, family… everything and everyone he cherishes is leaving Malleus. “Even if I have great power, I have nothing. I gain nothing, I always lose. No one will invite me, not anymore.” No Lilia, No Yuu 😞 Malleus, your abandonment issues are showing—
NAUUUR not more ominous shit 😭 Not the “man, I sure do wish everyone wouldn’t go :(((( if only there was a way for me to have everything I want…” coming from the mouth of a super insanely powerful magician…
NOOOOO not Yuu unintentionally enabling Malleus… He asks if there was a way to be with your loved ones forever, would Yuu take it?????? YUU DOnT SAy YES YOU FUQQinG IDIOT… ENABLER Yuu didn’t learn from Trey/j
MaLLEUS MY duDE 😔 DOn’T PULL ANY STUPID ShIT PLEASE (ie we all know he probably will)
Aaaand that’s all for now, folks!! Lots of sketchy lines and lore centering around grandpappy Lilia 🤡
Overall, I like the direction episode 7 is going so far! I was really worried that it would focus too much on Yuu and Malleus’s relationship rather than elaborating on Malleus’s relationships with the rest of Diasomnia, but I’m glad that the main story actually touches upon how integral Lilia is to his found family—and to Malleus, of course. A lot of interesting plot points have been set up (especially surrounding Mickey and Lilia), and I’m really looking forward to seeing how those conclude 👀 I feel like we also got spoiled with character lore; I love that time is a Real Thing in TWST and the the boys are aging and thinking hard about their futures. Can’t wait for the angst to hit me full force like a truck 💕

throughout your whole life, there has always been only one man by your side. you never seemed to have any qualms with each other, fitting together like slotted puzzle pieces and sometimes your friendship even stood against the tides that was your families bombarding you with "you'd look so good together!" that you would both simply groan and roll your eyes in response to; his older sister furina was exceptionally good at bring this up every time you came over for dinner when you was kids.
as you grew older however the two of you grew in distance, finally entering that adult world you dreamt so much about when you hid together in forts made of blankets and pillows, snacking on your stash of sugar. neuvillette got into law school, making him much busier than you and you'd opted for art school, much more interested in the creation of theatrical props and stages. going to two completely different schools put a halt on how much time you could spend with each other.
it's the middle of winter and finally your schedules have cleared up enough to allow you both to meet under the roof of a local café, the large glass windows slightly steamed due to the temperature difference outside but the warm, golden lights creating the most comforting environment that you would never need to gaze beyond what is around you. the smell of coffee and freshly baked treats is strong and slightly overpowering but nonetheless a welcoming difference from the paints and glue you suffered with daily.
you've always claimed you wasn't heavily attached to your childhood best friend but the moment your eyes catch sight of the tall male entering the building, his long silvery hair tied back in a loose ponytail because it gets in his way - but heaven forbid you suggest he cuts it - and a pair of slim glasses perched on his nose, you raise to your feet so quick you go dizzy for a few seconds. the static wears off to reveal him stood before you, undoing the buttons of his trench coat and unwrapping that familiar scarf from around his neck; ah yes, it's the one you brought him last christmas.
his violet eyes glance at you, a pleasant smile decorating his pale face as he hangs his coat on the back of his chair before wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you into the fluff of his sweater. he's warm, dressed appropriately for the weather as always and you relax under his touch, your arms looped around his waist and you rest your head against his chest. this hug was very much overdue and with the stress of exams, it's exactly what you both needed.
"have you ordered yet?" his deep voice rumbles suddenly over the sounds of cups clinking and idle chatter. you shake your head in response, reluctantly pulling away from the broad-shouldered male and he lets out a content hum, pulling his wallet out of his coat pocket, "what do you want? my treat today."
a slither of a smile creeps onto your face as you settle back into your chair, unwilling to argue against the male as you tell him your preferred order. there's a mild grin on his face, your order hasn't changed at all since you were younger and you almost wish you could retort sarcastically but he says nothing, leaving to go to the counter. part of you feels willed to follow him, unhappy with the concept of him paying but you knew just how stubborn neuvillette could be, a small sigh escaping your lips as you take the moment to admire the dark oak aesthetic inside the café.
neuvillette returns shortly after holding a tray in his black leather gloved hands, placing it on the table as you flash him a thankful smile. he settles opposite you, unstrapping his aforementioned gloves as you focus on your drink, taking a sip of it happily and closing your eyes for a split second.
"how's law school been treating you?" you find yourself asking him the dreaded question first, your eyes watching how his minorly calloused hands open his bottle of water and you can't help but think he really hasn't changed a bit since you were kids, always much preferring water to any other drink people tried to shove his way. neuvillette almost groans, raising the bottle to his lips as he takes a small sip.
"i have so much material to revise at all times, this is the first time i've been out of my accommodation in a while," he admits with a taut frown pulled onto his face. he was always one to prefer the outdoors, granted the weather had to be nice, "and it is as ever dull outside as some of my lecturers are to listen to."
you can't help but laugh at his words, picturing just how boring law professors must be. perhaps you would fall asleep if you had to listen to their drawl but neuvillette was extremely academic so you imagine that despite this complaint of his, he listens intently in every class just like he did in high school. you have faith he'll pass law school with flying colours.
"what about art school?" it's his turn to ask about your academics, tilting his head in curiosity as he looks over at you and you wonder if this setting seems a little too formal for you both, "i've seen some of your works on instagram."
"the local high school's drama class is doing romeo and juliet for their annual play and they've hired us to design the set. we're being graded on it but people in my class keep re-enacting scenes whenever we finish a prop." you groan, resting your chin in your hand as you attempt to look outside through the window to your left, it's still fogged up but it was an attempt nonetheless. neuvillette lets out a deep chuckle.
"think of it as quality control," he comments playfully with a small smile etched onto his otherwise sincere face, it draws a smile onto your face too at your best friend's words, "they're just checking the authenticity of your works before they're used for the real thing."
despite months of not seeing each other after years of being inseparable, everything seems just the way the pair of you had left it, leaving you content and fuzzy inside at finally being able to spend time together again. even though the two of you have definitely matured a little, those two toddlers cuddled up and sharing a beanbag in the library are still very much present and as the stress of exams, revision and all nighters designing stage sets wash away, you both come to realise just how much you needed to see each other again.

"Everyone says I shouldn't join the pack," the protagonist said. "They say you're..."
Well. They said a lot of things, eyeing the trio with great suspicion. Co-dependent, they whispered. Intense. A bit odd. They didn't fit in with the rest of the town. They were wilder, more wolf-like, than any of the other packs that the protagonist had ever come across.
"And what do you think?" the other werewolf asked, amused. "What do you want?"
You. Them. The pack.
The answer was achingly obvious; an inescapable tug.
It just wasn't sensible, and the protagonist had always been that.
Prompt courtesy of @the-modern-typewriter 's Patreon!
TW: reference to a past traumatic attack.
The pack came for the protagonist on the night of the new moon. It was barely 5pm but in the winter Northwest woods it might as well have been midnight. A crunch of truck tires on gravel, a sharp rap at the door, and three shaggy haired outlines on the cabin porch silhouetted against the starry sky and the deep, delicious darkness of the pine forest.
"Hey lone wolf," caroled the call from outside. "Don't you think it's time we all hashed this out?"
The protagonist gritted their teeth behind the door.
"Consider it an informative, mutual interview," the extrovert werewolf said. Purred, the protagonist would have said, if it weren't the wrong animal family. "After all, whether you join or not, you're still a wolf in our territory."
That... was true. It was deal with them now or deal with them when the moon changed. The protagonist steeled themselves, put on the kettle, and opened the door.
A few minutes later a pack of wolves were sprawled out on the protagonist's living room furniture, cups of Lemon Zinger in hand.
"I don't mean to offend, I'm just not..." The protagonist took a breath. "I didn't move out here to find a pack."
"And you're not required to join," the first one said smoothly. Clearly the speaker of the group. "There's enough woods for us all if you want to stay independent. The question is, ah..."
"The question is, is that what the wolf wants?" cut in the second one with a toothy smile over the edge of her teacup. The fighter, who walked with her shoulders up and her gaze constantly flicking back and forth.
"I control the wolf," the protagonist said automatically, then flinched.
There was a wave of reaction. The fighter dropped her eyes, the speaker immediately raised his hands to calm, to surrender. "You were part of a W.A. pack? That's fine, we're not judging. Obviously we don't subscribe to the creed," he added with a grin, "but it's no skin off our noses."
"Not much choice for a wolf in the city," the fighter added gruffly, her gaze fixed in intense scrutiny of the protagonist's footstool.
The protagonist forced a smile by habit even as they knew it would do no good. If the flinch hadn't been obvious enough the air practically stank with fear, anxiety.
That was the problem, dealing with wolves. There was just no hiding the truth.
"Yes," the protagonist said, giving their footstool the same scrutiny as they paused. Well, in for a penny, in for a pound. The pack had probably puzzled it out anyway. "Victim Services recommended Wolves Anonymous to help me find my footing after..." They shrugged
Immediately all three werewolves bared their teeth. The protagonist was used enough to recognize this was not a threat but an expression of sympathy.
"Unacceptable," the speaker hissed, the most wolflike the protagonist had ever seen him.
"The Change is a gift but also a Change," the fighter snarled. "How dare anyone force it another? I trust the miscreant is a pelt?"
The protagonist shrugged and put down their tea cup with unsteady hands. "Drago Asylum. He was in lunar frenzy, it wasn't intentional."
Around them, the protagonist felt the wolves exchange glances as the pieces slotted together. No surprise though.
"Thank you," said the third wolf and their pack mates jumped, "for sharing."
The third wolf spoke in a voice barely louder than the crickets outside, yet the dry rattle of their whisper cut through the room like a knife. The one who positioned themselves by the door, who hung back and kept a watchful eye. The leader.
"We appreciate your forthrightness," they went on, their eyes cool and intense and locked on the protagonist. "You have free parole in our territory as a lone and a standing invitation to our pack, if and when you decide that's what you want. You also," they added with a dry glance to the others, "have free reign to court, be courted, or to have none of it. Whatever you choose won't in any way be impacting your standing."
"Um," the protagonist stammered, heat rising in their cheeks. The fighter grinned. The speaker winked. "That's, uh, that's it? You just met me and I get to join the club?"
The leader cocked their head. "Yes," they said. "We see. We understand. You have good reason to take slow decision. We will wait for you to decide. You are worth waiting for."
The protagonist bit down on their lip. The air in their little cabin had turned thick and hot with this many bodies in their space. But bodies that smelled like pine sap and rich dirt and just a hint of sharp desire, bodies that were carefully angled close enough to support and defend, but not too close to be a threat or to corner. For the first time in months, the presence of others was a comfort. "Thank you," they said.
The leader nodded brusquely, glanced to the speaker. "Right!" the speaker said cheerfully, putting down his cookie. "We've asked you enough questions. Your turn to interrogate us. Fire away."
It was almost dawn before the wolves left. It was two months before the protagonist joined the pack.

Running in Circles
Sanji x reader
Fluff, kinda slow? kissing, Female!reader
word count: 3.9k
Hi guys! This will be my first ever writing piece i have put on the internet, so please don’t judge to hard. i am up for constructive criticism, but nothing to harsh please 🫣, there is probably spelling errors and grammar mistakes so please ignore them, i tried my best to find all of them! Anyway i hope you enjoy!
——————————————
The sun is way to bright for your liking, it shines down as if it it has something against your crew. The only thing making it bearable is the cold, refreshing drink you have in your hand. Ah yes, the drink you have in your hand, made by the chef of the straw hats. The lovely gentleman that has stolen your heart.
“Naaaamiii-swaaaaan, Roooobbiiiinn-chwwaaaaan, (yyy/nnnnn)-chwaaaannn”
Well he certainly has good timing. Although you have to pretend that you are annoyed by his antics, you actually quite like them, obviously. Nami and Robin are lying on lawn chairs sun tanning, while you are sitting in the shade reading a book. i don’t understand how they sit there for so long, I would be dead , You think
“I have brought my ladies desserts. Sweet desserts for some sweet ladies.” He says while twirling over to us with hearts in his eyes. He finally makes it over to you and he hands out desserts. When he hands you one your hands slightly touch. It’s honestly embarrassing the effect he has you. You pretend that you didn’t notice your hands touch and gladly accept the dessert. “Thanks so much Sanji!” you say with a shy smile. Nami and Robin also express their gratitude.
“Of course, anything for my lovely ladies”. He says spinning happily. You can practically hear Zoro making fun of him. “Tch” Zoro scoffs. Sanji hears this and starts yelling at him. “WHAT DID YOU SAY MOSS HEAD?!”. This turns into a bigger argument then needed, and it ends with Nami yelling at them to shut up and go somewhere else.
Later that day you, Nami, and Robin were sitting in your room, talking about who knows what. When it just so happened that Sanji came up in conversation.
“Speaking of Sanji, i think our (y/n) has a little crush on the blonde cook” Robin chimes in. “What?!? Where did that come from?” You put your hands up in defence. “Oh come on (y/n), it’s so obvious you have the hots for him, i don’t know what you see in him though, but to each their own” Nami says plainly. “Is it really that obvious?” You asked, pouting. Nami looks at you puzzled and says “Wait you actually like him? I was just teasing you, right Robin?” Robin smiles softly, “Actually i was being serious, but thanks to you Nami, i have confirmed my suspicions.” you sink down into your chair, i can’t believe i fell for that you think to yourself, Robin giggles charmingly and Nami squeals “O-M-G (Y/N), WHY DIDNT YOU TELL US YOU LIKE HIM, WE COULD HELP YOU GET TOGETHER!! maybe he’d stop fawning over us then.” She whispered the last part. “i mean i didn’t tell you because i thought it didn’t really matter. I don’t have a chance with him anyway” you say sadly.
Meanwhile, when you guys are talking in your room. Sanji thought it would be a good idea to bring you guys some tea. He was walking toward the shared room with tea in his hand about to knock on the door. However before he can knock he hears Nami yell
“O-M-G (Y/N), WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US YOU LIKE HIM, WE COULD HELP YOU GET TOGETHER!!”
What?! Did he hear that correctly, his precious (y/n) likes someone?!? No, he must have heard wrong. He puts his ear closer to the door to hear the rest of the conversation.
“i mean ididn’t tell you because i thought it didn’t really matter. I don’t have a chance with him anyway.” He hears you say. So it’s confirmed, you have a crush on someone, and he has no idea who it is. He’s about to walk away to go sob by himself, but he then hears Nami ask what you like about him.
Ah! Perfect maybe if you talk about him he could guess who it is.
“Well (y/n), what do you like about him! i mean you have to tell us.” Nami asks me. “Honestly everything, the way he smiles, how he smells, how kind he is to me, just everything is perfect. Don’t even get me started with his looks, he’s beautiful!!” you gush a little more then you wanted. Robin has her signature smile on. “MY GOODNESS, WHAT ARE YOU? SOME ROMANTIC?” Nami squeals. You shyly look away, wanting to bring the attention off of you somehow, but you know very well that’s not happening. “ahhhh, i don’t know, when it comes to him everything just feels right. YOUR THE ONE WHO ASKED ANYWAY!” you say embarrassedly “I get it (y/n)… you’re in looovvveeee~” Nami says in a teasing manner. “Okay Nami, don’t tease her too much. That’s probably why she didn’t tell us” Robin chuckles. Nami stops for second and looks as if shes thinking really intensely about something. “Wait, hold on. Did you say that you don’t have a chance with him?” she blurts out after a couple minutes. “uhh yeah, why?” you question.
“THERS NO WAY IN HELL YOU DON’T HAVE A CHANCE WITH HIM. YOU’RE WAY OUT IF HIS LEAGUE. HE SHOULD BE THANKING YOU IF ANYTHING.” Nami screams at you. “ Jeez calm down Nami, I was just saying that because he’s way more attractive then me and he’s always fawning over other women. I’m not as pretty as those other girls.” you look down at my lap. “Hey, you are prettier than any girl i’ve ever seen okay? don’t undermine yourself like that.” Nami says compassionately. “Thanks Nami, i’m probably going to go sit outside for a bit, cool off y’know.” you say sadly and go to leave the room. As you open the door there is a tray with tea on the ground with a note saying,
      For my lovely ladies
-Sanji♡
you look back at Robin and Nami in a panic, what if he heard that whole thing!?! He probably won’t talk to me anymore, he probably thinks i’m a big weirdo.
“Do you think he heard any of that?” you ask. Robin answers calmly, “Probably not, and if he did maybe that’d be the start of a new relationship” you thank Robin and Nami and quickly leave for the deck.
While you are leaving Nami and Robin look at each other with concern, both of them wondering if you will be okay.
The next couple days continues like normal, everyone doing their own thing. However you noticed that Sanji looked a little down. Of course you being you, you want to check up on him and see if there’s anything wrong. So you slowly walk up to him while he is leaning on the railing looking at the sea having a cigarette. Everyone has already gone to bed, Sanji usually stays out after everybody to have a smoke. “Hey Sanji, how’s it going?” you quietly say not wanting to startle him. He jumps anyway quickly looking your way. “Oh (y/n)-chan. Um everything is good what about you?” He questions. you try not to let the shock show on your face, but you are surprised by his response. There’s no yelling, wiggling or any fawning at all. Just a blank response. you’re kinda at a loss for words, maybe he really did hear you guys talking. You try to muster up anything at all “Oh, i’m good. I just wanted to know how you were doing, you looked kinda down these past days.” That was the only thing you could think to say. not bad right! “What? i looked down?” you nod your head confirming what he just said. “Well how about next time you mind your own business, who cares if i’m down, not like you care one bit. i’m leaving”
Sanji quickly took one last drag out of his cigarette, he then quietly put it out and walked inside leaving you by yourself to think if you’ve done anything wrong. You stood there for a little looking at beautiful sea, the calm waves almost putting you too sleep, but you know you couldn’t sleep after what just happened. What was his problem? Why is he so mad? Did you do something wrong? Does he hate you? Does h-. Your thoughts get cut off by someone trying to talk to you.
“Oi, what are you doing out here so late?”
You looked behind you to see Zoro coming down from the crows nest, probably just finished training “Zoro, how are you doing?” you ask trying to not show that you’re quite literally on the verge of tears. Zoro doesn’t say anything for a minute, he just stares at you examining your face. Then he finally speaks up to say “ What’s wrong? Are you hurt or something?” you just scoff and look away, “What makes you think that?” you ponder.
“well first off all it looks like your constipated a-.” you cut Zoro off with a small laugh, “Sometimes I wonder why you say the things you do.” You slide down the railing to sit on the ground back to the sea. “Well how else do you want me to explain it, you even have tears in your eyes. I just saw that cook go inside, was he bothering you?” “Why are you being so considerate right now?” You ask a little confused. “Well I might not show it but i do actually care about my family. I’m just letting you know i’m here for you.” Zoro confesses. You and Zoro have always been quite close, you’re not very obnoxious so he doesn’t mind you being around (His words not yours). Sometimes you even train together, although that is very rare. But you’d say that you get along well. “Are you sure you’re up to listen?” You inquire. Zoro just give you a little nod, basically telling you to go ahead. “ well this is a little personal so, don’t make fun of me.” you look away a little embarrassed. “ugh, I don’t care just spit it out already.” Zoro says getting a little impatient.
“Okay well, I really like Sanji and yesterday Robin, Nami and I were talking about it and i think Sanji might of heard us talking about it. Since he left a note with tea by our room, and he looked really down today, so i wanted to check on him so i asked him how he was doing. Then he just snapped on me telling me to mind my own business and he just went inside. So i don’t know what i did wrong. It’s really bugging me.” you finish your huge rant almost in tears. Zoro looks really confused, almost shocked. “Wait hold on, YOU LIKE THE ERO COOK?!?!” He says a little louder then you would want him too. You then quickly put your hand over his mouth shushing him. He slaps your hand down and glares at you. “Sorry that’s just really surprising. Like what do you even see in him. How do you even like him. I’m so confused.” He trails off asking a bunch of questions on how you even like him. “That doesn’t matter right now. Do you think he hates me? I really don’t want him to hate me.” you say as the tears finally roll down your cheeks. Zoro looks panicked for a second then slowly pulls you into a hug not really knowing how to comfort people. You slowly hug him back, crying. “Honestly i have no idea what that shitty-brows thinks, but i don’t think he hates you. Maybe he’s just frustrated with Luffy always eating all the food. Then he took out his anger on you. I don’t know.” You slowly pull away wiping your tears, “Thanks Zoro, maybe you’re right.” “What do you mean, of course i’m right.” he replies with a smirk. You give him a little punch on the shoulder and laugh. “No but seriously thanks, you always know how to make me feel better.” “I would say anytime, but i wouldn’t really mean that.” He still has his stupid smirk on his face. “Yeah okay, whatever Zoro. Goodnight, i’ll see you tomorrow.” You bid him farewell. He says goodnight back and heads to his room to sleep.
While you and Zoro were talking, Sanji was in his room debating with himself if he was to hard on you. I mean it’s not really her fault that she likes someone, i can’t do anything about that. But it’s hurts so much, I like her too much to just give her up like that. But i don’t want to force her to like me. UGGH THIS SUCKS. Sanji paces back and forth, until something catches his eye in through the window.
There you were talking with Zoro, You looked quite upset. Is she upset because of what i said to her, no that can’t be. Sanji thinks to himself. Then all of the sudden Zoro pulls you into a hug, whilst you slowly hug back, Sanji is trying to maintain his composure. Sanji had enough and quickly closed his curtains and went to sit on his bed. He begins to beat himself up over what he’s been doing over the past few days. He knows he’s been ignoring you, and he feels terrible but thats what he thinks is best to do. But seeing you with Zoro just makes him feel even worse then he already did. What if Zoro was the one you liked. It would all make sense, you were always with him. But that should be him with you, it should be him comforting you when you feel down, it should be him who holds you like that, not some stupid swordsman. Sanji tries to fall asleep and not think about it. However his brain had other plans.
That night Sanji didn’t get one wink of sleep.
Over the next few days, you and Sanji’s situation didn’t get any better. You were ignoring him and he was ignoring you, and to be honest the rest of the crew was getting sick of it, excluding Luffy. Nami thought that it was about time she smack some sense into that damn cooks head, so she took it upon herself to go teach him a lesson. “Sanji.” Nami said sternly while walking into the kitchen. It was now just Sanji and Nami standing in the kitchen. “YEEES NAAMMMIII-SWAAAN” Sanji screamed out in response. Nami was not having it. “Drop the act Sanji, i know your ignoring (y/n) for a reason, what is it? did you hear us talking?” Sanji’s smile slowly faded and he looked away, “How’d you know i heard”. Sanji quietly asked looking at the floor. “Well first of all you left tea by our door with a note, usually you just knock and walk in “Nami explained.” Also you have been ignoring (y/n) for a whole week, so that’s evidence enough.” “yeah you’re right i heard what she said.”
Sanji confessed, looking disappointed. Nami looked confused, “so why are you sulking right now you should be jumping for joy” she muttered out. “Why the hell would i be jumping for joy, (y/n) likes someone. To rephrase that, the girl i love likes another man” Sanji sighs while putting his head in his hands. Now Nami looked even more confused. “What are you talking about “another man”. you idiot clearly you didn’t hear all of our conversation”. Nami rolls her eyes at Sanji. “what do you mean, she said she liked him, and started describing him. Shes clearly in love with…him…” Sanji pouts. “ Sanji…. Do i really have to spell it out for you, YOU ARE THE “OTHER MAN”, SHE LIKES YOU. Y-O-U, you, she has for a while.
“Huh?!” Sanji gets up, eyes wide. “Wait (y/n)-chan likes me?!” Sanji whips his head around to look at Nami. Nami just shakes her head. “Yeah and all those things she said about this “guy” were about you. So if you thought she was in love with this mysterious man. She must really love you a lot”. “WHAAAT?!?” Sanji shrieked. Nami then punched him on the head “Shut up, you’re being too loud.” Sanji winced in pain, but he didn’t care right now, The love of his life likes him back! “Wait so all those things she said were about me?” Sanji questioned. “ Yes you dumbass, that’s all i’m saying, goodbye.” Nami left the room in a hurry not wanting to hear his whining anymore.
As Nami strutted out of the room, Sanji was left by himself trying to figure out his jumbled thoughts
“(y/n)-chan likes me… oh am i an idiot, i can’t believe i thought she liked that stupid swordsman” Sanji muttered to nobody in particular. “i have to make this right with her, i’ve been nothing but rude, i can’t believe i hurt a precious lady’s feelings.” That’s it, tomorrow i’ll set things straight with her!! Sanji thought to himself. He then hightailed it to his room ready for the events to take place, he dreamed of what he would say and how you would react, he was like a teenage girl getting ready for their first date. Though i guess it was partially true.
Seagulls cawing woke Sanji up like usual, he always gets up first to make breakfast for everyone. He honestly enjoys having people that he can cook for everyday. By now Sanji is in the kitchen already started breakfast when everyone started flooding into the kitchen waiting to eat, especially Luffy. Sanji noticed you had walked in the kitchen a while ago, he’s trying his hardest not to drop everything and run over to you begging for forgiveness. As Sanji day dreamed while he cooked, surprisingly never once making a mistake, he finally finished breakfast serving it to the whole crew. Making sure to give you a little extra. The atmosphere was a little awkward at first but with the help of Usopp and Luffy arguing over whose food was whose, it quickly returned to normal.
Sanji had quickly took notice of how you clung to Zoro the entire time you were in the kitchen, which he didn’t particularly like but it was technically his fault for making you upset so he let it slide this time, next time he probably won’t be so nice.
After everyone was done eating Sanji had to stay to clean up the dishes, usually you would help him with them but recently you haven’t been; which is understandable. When Sanji was done with the dishes he moseyed his way on down to the deck, where he would find you sitting with a book in your hand reading in the shade. As he approached you, you looked up at him in confusion, wondering why he was coming over to you. He now stood in front of you with a soft look on his face that you couldn’t help but stare at. He was more nervous than anything though.
“Would it be alright with you if we went somewhere private to talk?” Sanji politely asked.
“oh um, yeah sure” you replied baffled by what he just said, he had ignored you for a whole week and is now asking to talk privately?!? What is happening. “i was thinking we could go to the kitchen?” Sanji suggests. “sure, lead the way.” you say.
As you are walking to the kitchen with Sanji you look back to find Zoro smirking in your direction, you glare at him and he gives you a thumbs up. You turn back trying not to let him see you embarrassed. Entering the kitchen Sanji stands by the stove and you sit by the table, this may seem like awkward positioning, and trust me, it is. It also wasn’t helping that Sanji was keeping quiet, after like 5 minutes you finally said something to clear up the awkward silence.
“I’m really sorry for ignoring you, Sanji. I just thought that maybe you would need your own space since you didn’t seem like you wanted to talk to me anymore. I was worried that i was suffocating you so i thought you might be better by yourself. Then you started ignoring me and it confirmed my thoughts, so i just ended up leaving you alone.” you spit out hoping he would understand.
“Wow, calm down (y/n). I’m the one who should be apologizing. I’m the one who ignored you in the first place because i was mad that you liked someone else and i couldn’t stand the thought of you being with someone other than me. So i decided to ignore you”. Sanji started to walk over to you and sat down in the chair beside you. I’m sorry, for what i said to you, i want you to be in my business, i want to have you by my side all the time. Nami told me how dumb i was being for not realizing sooner that you liked me. But how could i think that someone as beautiful and kind as you would like me?” As Sanji was finishing up his little confession, you were slowly moving closer to one another. You let out a little chuckle “ how could you have thought i liked someone else, i thought it was obvious i was in love with you” you said through your smile. Sanji was about to pass out with what you just said, You, Love, Him. He was over the moon!
“YOU LOVE ME!! OH MY I COULDNT BE MORE HAPPY!!!” Sanji shouted almost jumping in his seat, with hearts in his eyes. Sanji was so relieved to hear you say that, now knowing he doesn’t have to worry about any competition. “of course i love you doofus i’ve been in love with you for like 3 years.” you confess. Sanji goes quiet. It scares you, did you say something wrong, does he not feel the same? It’s actually quite the opposite, he feels so much the same way that he froze in his seat. Now coming back to reality he stares at your blushing face as his progressively turns more red as well.
He then slowly takes his cigarette out of his mouth and looks into your eyes, he is getting closer by the second. As his lips near yours, he stops. “Can i please kiss you princess?” He asked in the most charming voice you’ve ever heard, how could you say no? “of course, my prince.” The confirmation is all he needed, before long his lips were on yours. It felt like a dream come true, his lips were soft, they tasted like sweets with a hint of tobacco. You passionately kissed him back, now having a full on make out session. His tongue licked your lips wanting in, and you gladly obliged, opening your mouth a tad for his tongue to find its way in. His hand, that was once placed so delicately on your cheek has now found it’s way behind your head pushing your lips onto his. Unfortunately for the both of you, you needed air. Pulling back from the heated kiss, you both slowly opened your eyes to stare at each other.
“That was one hell of a kiss” Sanji blurts out licking his lips. “Sanji!” you huff and hit him on the shoulder, he laughs and holds your hand. He pulls you into a nice warm hug. “You know, i have loved you for along time too” he says relating to what you said earlier. “i wish you would have told me that sooner” you say. Sanji laughs and hugs you tighter. “I love you.” “i love you too” you reply.
Both of you sat in each others arms for a majority of the day, the crew now annoyed with how much PDA they are going to have to witness from now on. Mostly Zoro.

pick a pile: "Yes or No?"
take a breath and think about a question of any type; then choose the photo/number that calls you the most to read your answer.
don’t take the reading too seriously. only take what resonates with you and leave the rest. if you're not called by any pile, let this reading slid as it may not hold messages for you. if you're called by more than one, there may be messages in each of those piles. remember that is a general reading and some things may not resonate with you. energies can change and readings are based on present ones (as you read); you're always in charge of your life.

pile 1
answer: more of a maybe. there is hope for it to become a yes but there's probably something you need to get over/heal and ground yourself about. if it's some situation you need to face and that it makes you nervous/anxious or sth, try to take a breath first and think it through before making a decision. maybe write down lists of pros/cons, if applies. just remember you can take your time, you don't have to answer anyone immediately.

pile 2
answer: yes. and I think you should be hyped as well. I think it is not too clear atm, you may be confused, therefore you're called to learn something and keep your mind in check (you may tend to overthink, maybe self sabotage by telling yourself you won't make it: don't do this. be hopeful and try and hype yourself: you're there for you as your best friend, never forget). it may relate to love for someone but I think it's school/career for many. and self love for all, in general.

pile 3
answer: another maybe. try to think about your feelings: does this thing (whatever it is) still bring you happiness? does it still give you joy? or you are just tired and doing it out of habit? if it's something you're thinking about putting an end to (job, relationship...), you probably should at least meditate it well. you deserve to think about your own happiness too. if you only wake up to cry again... try and find your way out of it. and ask for help or support, even just an outside pov, if you need.
song: comfortable | h.e.r.

pile 4
answer: yes. a delicate one though. similar to pile 2, you may tend to self sabotage but if you don't get in your way, you can do it. things change. grow into your best self, don't be scared about what others may do or think. be your own person, follow your own passion, speak up when you need. find your balance. be your own comfort zone when you have to get out of your comfort zone. believe in yourself, nurture your fears as they're part of you. accept yourself for who you are deep down.

pile 5
answer: "uuuh yeeess-ah~" (it's the ending part of a song ig lol) I think you are overcoming something at the moment. it feels also that the pieces of the puzzle are sticking/coming together and you're having a better picture of it all. You're being bolder, you're trying to stop stressing out, you're talking, and... if you're asking about love, yes, your person may be on their way to you. stay grounded and chill (patience!!).

pile 6
answer: no. I think there's something you're not seeing or not considering atm, so you need to understand and see this thing from a different perspective too. There's something inside that needs to be changed, maybe a mental pattern, or something that needs to be accepted but you're not open to do that now. your answer may turn into a yes (where still applicable ofc) but first, you need to analyze things well. (you may be getting downloads or signs to guide you in your dreams or daily life btw).

All In My Head (Part One)
Edited-ish. ~1.3k words.
Tumblr media
“Rafe?” You call as you enter Tanneyhill, the front door being left unlocked, and the law littered with empty cans, bottles, and cups already confirms your suspicions. Rafe had a party last night to celebrate his newfound power as head of the Cameron estate. “Rafe? You here?!” You call louder as you wander through the main floor and enter the kitchen. You pause as your eyes land on a dark-haired girl in one of his t-shirts sitting at the breakfast bar. “Oh.”
“Hi!” She smiles before taking a bite of her yogurt. “Are you looking for Rafe?”
“Yes.”
She puts her spoon down before clasping her hands together on top of the counter. “He stepped out. Said he had some business to take care of.”
“Ah,” you muse, glancing around. The inside seemed untouched by the party. “Okay, well thanks.”
You turn to go, your mind putting the puzzle pieces together without him.
“Umm…” she stands quickly, and you turn back to look at her. “Rafe said he’ll be back in a bit. Do you want to leave a message?”
“Sure.” You nod and cross to grab the notepad that you know is in one of the kitchen drawers. You scribble down the note and fold it before passing it to her. “Thank you, that is very kind of you.”
“Sure!” She smiles, tucking it with her yogurt. “I’m Sofia.”
“Y/n.” You offer before leaving. You exhale, the sting of your new reality setting in for you as you close the front door. You look up to the sound of a bike pulling up the drive, and it is none other than Rafe.
The urge to stay and fight it out is there, but with his new arm candy present, it would be pointless, and you know it as you cross the lawn to your car.
“Hey!” His voice carries across the lawn, and you glance over to see him getting off his bike. His helmet is removed as those beautiful blue eyes track you across the lawn. “Hey! Y/n!”
“I have to go!” You call back as you unlock your car and get in. He is racing across the lawn to you. His long legs close the distance in a heartbeat, and his hand closes around the door before you can close it. “Let go, Rafe.”
“What are you doing here?” He asks, those blue eyes searching over your face for any indication of whether you know who is inside that house.
You school your features and shrug. “Came to check in, but no one answered.” You gesture to the closed glass door. The lie comes surprisingly smoothly from you. “I have to get to work, Rafe.”
He tips his head, but you keep your expression neutral.
“Umm… will you come back?”
“Sure,” you smile weakly. You would not, but Rafe did not need to know that. “I can come by once I get off.”
“Cool,” he smiles, sticking his hands in his pockets after he lets your door go. “We can talk about this. I miss you.”
“Sure, Rafe.”
“Okay,” he says and his smile brightens. “See you soon, Baby.”
“See you,” you whisper as you shut your car door and leave the driveway. The tears do not come until you are turning onto the main road through town. The sting of his betrayal magnifies with each sniffle as you wipe at your cheeks.
Without intending to, you pull up to the Chateau. You put the car in park and press your forehead to the steering wheel as you try to get your emotions under control. Rafe had cheated on you, and you would never be able to forgive him. You could not, not after everything you had watched your mom go through with her roster of ex-boyfriends.
A light tap of knuckles on your window has you lifting your head to see JJ staring at you. You frown and try to wipe at your cheeks again. A scowl etches across his face before he pulls the handle of your door and opens it before reaching for you.
“What happened, pretty girl?” He whispers, letting you sink into his arms as you cry. “What happened, huh?”
“Rafe… cheated,” you sniffle before glancing at the house. “Is anyone here?”
“Just us, come on,” he murmurs and guides you towards the house. You follow him inside and curl up in the depths of the dusty old couch while he busies getting you something to drink. He returns and passes you a glass of water. “Drink up.”
“Thanks, Jay,” you mumble before sipping some of the water. You exhale, dropping your head onto the arm of the couch. “It is that bartender, the one that works for the kooks. The pretty short-haired brunette.”
“Damn.”
“Yep.”
JJ paces, hands on his hips as he watches you. “Did you go see your mom?”
“Can’t find her,” you mumble, wiping at your cheeks again. “She likely has a new beau and is off with him somewhere.”
“Damn,” JJ mutters with a shake of his head.
“I know. I’m all alone.”
“No, you’re not.” He says, his tone carrying an edge to it. “You’ve got me and you’ve got the rest of the pogues.”
You sniffle, attempting a faint smile for him. “Two lost souls barely hanging on, huh?”
He smiles weakly. “That’s us, pretty girl.” He looks around quickly before grabbing a blanket for you. “Will you stay here? You can stay here and wait for the others, okay?”
You nod, chewing on your bottom lip for a second. “If you need to go, please go. I can stay here and wait for the others.”
“Okay,” he nods, scrubbing his hand through his blond locks. “I’ll be back, okay? I just promised John B I would help with something.”
“I’m good. We’ve got to save Uncle John, right?” You reassure him, and he goes out the door. The screen door slams, and you hear his dirt bike until it fades out as he leaves you behind.
Crying yourself to sleep had not been the plan, but you wake to Rafe kneeling in front of you. His worried expression makes your heart squeeze as he gently strokes his thumb over your tear-stained cheek.
“Hey, Baby.”
“Rafe?” You mumble and sit up, looking around in a panic. “What are you-?”
“I got your note,” he murmurs, his fingers moving down your neck. “'Thank you -y/n.’ That’s all I get?”
“I panicked.”
He looks away before clearing his throat. “Sofia is…”
“It’s okay, Rafe,” you shrug and look around. “I get it. We weren’t sure where we stood. I was silly to even think we could come back after everything that has happened.”
“No, no… don’t say that.”
Tears threaten again and you look down at your hands as you fidget with the frayed edge of the couch. “It’s true. We aren’t the crazy young lovebirds that felt like they could take on the world anymore. Those two people are long gone.”
“Baby,” he murmurs, moving closer. His hands wrap around yours and bring them to his lips, where he presses kisses across your knuckles. “No… I made a mistake, okay? I made a stupid mistake.”
You give him a sad smile as you pull your hands free. “I forgive your mistake, but I can’t do this anymore. You have to let me go.”
He looks away, and you can see the tears welling in his own eyes now.
“I love you, Rafe, but I can’t be with you anymore. It’s time, Baby. You have to let me go.”
He clears his throat and stands. His hand swipes over his face, wiping away the tears that threaten to well over. “Please don’t do this. I can’t lose you.”
“You already have.”
“No! Please, I can’t… I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“I’ve already forgiven you,” you murmur, looking down at the frayed threads of the couch again. “You should go, the pogues will be here soon.”
He seems to snap out of whatever thought trail he is on at the mention of your friends. His shoulders straighten as he stares at you. “Okay.”
“Okay.”
He turns and goes without another protest, and the screen door slamming shut makes you flinch as silent tears flood your vision.

august 26, 2021 4:00 a.m. a balcony, somewhere
time somehow seems to simultaneously slow to a crawl and race beyond the speed of light. grant doesn’t remember when they’d ended up perched like lovebirds at the pinnacle of a staircase, peering out over the night-drenched landscape, but it must have been a while ago. customers have long since stopped streaming in and out of the restaurant on the street below.
he remembers in better detail the stream of their conversation–they’d shifted from food and a strangely peaceful, humorous discussion of kicking the bucket to movies, and at some point, paranormal stories came up along the way.
it’d be hard to forget talking to yunha.
there’s something curiously enrapturing about her, something that had drawn him to her when he first made eye-contact with her.
the look in her eyes, maybe. it’s piercing, like she’s baring right through your skin and into your soul, but not malicious or judgmental. it’s friendly, it’s curious, it’s playful.
the way she speaks, maybe. she’s the most engaged conversationalist he’s ever encountered. everything you say, whether she agrees or disagrees, is met with affirmations and a lot of nodding. yes, yes, of course. i see, i see. i understand. ohhh, wow! really?
she’s unraveling every shard of the puzzle that is his personality and piecing it back together in one whole picture, analyzing it. figuring it out. appreciating it.
or maybe it’s the sweetness that radiates off her. she appears unafraid to smile, instead all too happy to flash those pretty, crooked bunny teeth for the world to see.
“so, i'm going to guess you’re not accidentally good at singing.”
she seems not to mind revealing her own puzzle pieces either, and the more she says about herself, the more fascinated he is with her. with who she is. with what makes her tick.
“i hope it’s not an accident,” yunha replies, laughing, “because shit, then years worth of practice was a waste.”
“time enjoyed is never time wasted.”
the unabashed cringe of the line garners an immediate eye roll, but she still seems to find it funny.
they’ve definitely been sitting here a while. grant straightens his back, fixing his gradually slouching posture, and is is met with an immediate flash of pain, distinct from the chronic dull ache underlying every day of his life, that radiates down every vertebra.
“what got you into music, though?”
yunha’s rosy pink lips purse in thought as she dwells on the question.
“a lot of things. my parents like music. i listened to a lot of different kinds of songs my whole life, first with them, and then later with my friends. i had some time between classes and studying to spend having fun, but i couldn't spend any money, so my friends and i would go to this music store. we walked around and picked random albums to listen to on the headphones. we never bought anything.”
grant nods supportively. “what’s, like, the first album you remember really liking? or albums. you don’t have to pick one.”
“ah! i treasure so many albums. seo taiji and boys IV. i think that’s still my favorite nostalgic album ever. i also remember fondly, um, this girl’s in love with you by aretha franklin. i heard that at the music store, and i was so impressed by her talent. i still am.”
“i'm not a music expert. surprise! i know, i know, i'm sorry to tell you, i did not practice for centuries for that wonderful spice girls performance earlier. no, but seriously, i most often just listen to the same old emo stuff i liked when i was 13. so, unfortunately i don’t know the first album at all, at least not yet, but i do know the second one. you have fantastic taste, that’s a classic.”
despite his ignorance, yunha still smiles from ear to ear. “you should look up the first one! look up, like, seo taiji ‘come back home.’ that’s the most popular song on the album. i don’t wanna bias you, so listen on your own and make your own opinions.”
“wilco. and if you don’t mind me asking, how’d you turn the interest in music into a skill? you are talented, but i know it's very much a skill. it does take a lot of practice to become tangibly good at music.”
“to express myself,” yunha says plainly, “it’s easier to tell your story in art than talking about it, and singing is free. you don’t need supplies to learn it. but yes, i needed that kind of outlet, you know? i always liked singing, always did it, but i needed more than only entertainment from it over time.”
“oh yeah, art is helpful. i really should have gotten on that train earlier. i got on board about a year ago. it's much better for you than intellectualizing everything. or at least that's what i tend to do. do you perform, by the way? outside of karaoke, that is."
"sometimes. but also, not in a long time."
there falls a brief, but peaceful lull in the conversation. grant’s eyes draw to black night sky as he recalls the last haphazard art he’d created–the mushy-gushy attempt at processing the universe. seeing it hanging above him now, his thoughts are no less conflicting. light pollution washes out the shining sea of stars, but the sky still retains its beauty, its bewilderment. visible or not, an infinite chain of dimensions and celestial bodies exist in the vacuum of space, orbiting independent of him, yet factoring in the tiny fraction of his mass on the mass of the earth in their delicate ballerina dance across the fabric of spacetime.
the universe must have created me for some reason, for something other than anguish.
his own words. again. ever-present.
“i miss seeing the stars.” yunha’s buttery soft voice breaks his concentration. “you can’t see anything here.”
“polaris.” grant raises his left arm and draws his index finger across the sky until it hovers above the only star he’s seen thus far. “technically, that means we should be able to see sirius, too, but we don’t need to get all science-y and talk about magnitude and that polaris isn’t–”
“i would like it if you did.”
she was thinking of the stars, too.
synchronicity.
“aw shucks! well. i’ll say this, polaris isn’t the brightest star. we just talk about it way more frequently because it has the most cultural significance in the northern hemisphere for, you know, navigation reasons. but hey, give it about 12,000 more years, and it even won’t be the north star anymore. thank you, wobbly earth axis. but also boo, woobly earth axis, because it's a little sad to think about.”
yunha’s eyes glitter with fascination. “it’ll be something else?”
“yep! the next north star will be vega,” he explains, “come on down, you’re the next contestant!”
“maybe we’ll see it happen.”
“if my consciousness is still floating around as little dust particles, that’d be pretty sick. you know? forget fly me to the moon, fly me to vega. why not?”
“i don’t think i'll be dust,” yunha says, not missing a beat at all, even as her focus remains fixed on the faintest twinkle emanating from polaris, “it’s kind of troubling. you don’t want to be, like, stuck in the whole cycle of the universe, but if you’re still here, you can see some really beautiful things.”
“ah. reincarnation?”
“if you’re asking me, you’re not going to be dust. either you escape the suffering or you come back in some kind of physical form, human or not, and you try again.”
grant thinks about it for a moment. and then the feelings, like usual, spill out at once.
“i'm not going to lie, that idea has always given me the heebie-jeebies. i think it’s very cool as a concept, but i'm, like, man, i don’t want to do this shit again. also, look, we're doing the thing again. oh, and shit, that sounded judgmental. i just run my mouth too much."
"most people don't know they lived before. you can't really remember your other lives without a lot of study," she answers, "and no, you don't. i prefer to hear your real opinion. it's actually stupid when people tell you what they think you want to hear."
"do you ever wonder what you were up to last go-around?"
"not too much, but i always heard strange birthmarks and scars are signs from your last death. fears, too. things you avoid. so, i guess, like, a clown stabbed me in the neck with needles."
"are you afraid of storm drains, by any chance? if so, i think pennywise had it out for you."
"hahaha." yunha shakes her head. "wait, i have to ask. is it not worse thinking you can only live once? that's not uncomfortable? feeling like you have to make everything perfect in your one lifetime?"
"oh no, it's terrifying. dying and just being done with everything is eerie, too, because there are nice things to do and see here in the real world. you’re right about that. and yeah, there is a lot of pressure to get it all right. also, that's not even mentioning that there are people i love that i don’t want to be gone forever. i'd like to think they remain somehow. conscious or not. i kind of think they do, but i don’t know. am i contradicting myself? capital-P probably."
“you don’t know what to think.”
grant immediately bursts out laughing. “yeah, no, absolutely not. i do not know. i just kinda waffle around and hope some scientist throws out some numbers and whatnot that proves some explanation of everything correct. but that’s impossible. it’s literally impossible. we can’t even simulate or predict the wacky physics that were going on at the exact moment the big bang happened.”
“not to be, like, all quirky, but...” yunha reaches over, patting him on the shoulder. “maybe don’t think about it? you’re gonna go crazy. you can just not know? and it's fine. this doesn’t mean anything anyway. the answer to anything is already in you, it’s not out there.”
and then she, too, starts giggling all over again and her cheeks blush deep red from sheepish cringe.
another stereotypical line, but he doesn't mind. they sound better coming from her than him anyhow.
a second later and she checks the time on her phone. her cheesy smile erodes into a slight frown.
“ahh, i really need to leave soon. i have a schedule in the morning.”
grant checks the time as well, drawing the sleeve of his hoodie up just enough to read the minuscule roman numerals on his watch.
on the watch an ex-girlfriend gifted him. not päivi, but...
4:00 a.m.
fuck.
right.
you’re leaving the country in two hours.

The barn felt unusually quiet as I arrived early, beating even Levi to our usual meeting spot. A sense of solitude lingered, was this a consequence of my tardiness on other days?
Last night's events weighed on me, casting shadows over my tired eyes. Sleep had been elusive, and the mess hall became my refuge until breakfast's arrival. I lacked the strength to face Alexander's apologies, his attempts to sweep our....
my reality under the rug.
My ODM harness, once a symbol of freedom, became a painful reminder. Straps pressed against my bruised chest, every adjustment sending jolts of pain through my body. Alexander's violence from the night before echoed with each painful breath.
A few slaps had escalated into something more sinister. Questions circled my mind – was it safer to endure the torment within the confines of his presence, or was escape an option for me? Answers remained elusive, a puzzle I couldn't piece together in this weary state.
Levi's sudden appearance shattered my contemplation. Startled, I dropped my canteen, and it rolled away, farther and farther away from my reach.
"Erwin wants you," Levi's voice cut through the air, disrupting the silence that enveloped the barn. I couldn't bend to retrieve my fallen canteen, I had to watch it roll away. Maybe later I'll find the strength to pick it up.
"Hurry up. Come straight back here when you're done," Levi's instructions echoed, as I walked away, leaving the abandoned canteen behind.
I stood outside Commander Erwin's office, why he would summon me.? Was it about my performance? Levi's tardiness this morning added a layer of curiosity.
"Come in," his cheerful voice beckoned. He seemed to anticipate my arrival, knowing the time it took from the training grounds to his office.
"Commander," I greeted as I entered, a mixture of nervousness and curiosity bubbling within me.
"Take a seat," he instructed, and I complied, feeling a sense of unease despite knowing I hadn't committed any wrongdoing. Perhaps it was about my lax approach to training.
"How are you?" Erwin inquired, his words carrying a certain depth that left me questioning if he referred to more than just my well-being.
"Good, thank you. What about you, Commander?"
"Very well," he replied cryptically, and the atmosphere in the room only thickened.
"How's the new squad?"
"Well, I'm the only member, so good," I chuckled, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Ah yes, we will get there," Erwin remarked, pacing around the room. Then, he delved into more pressing matters.
"How do you like Levi as your captain?"
"Um, he's doing well. I'm learning a lot," I replied cautiously, sensing a shift in the conversation.
"Last I heard, you were pretty behind in skills for the squad. How's that going for you?" Erwin questioned, pinpointing the very concern that had been lingering in my mind.
"Still need work, but it's going," I admitted, though the truth was, I felt inadequate compared to Levi's prowess. The looming expectation of meeting their standards weighed heavily on me.
"Right," Erwin said, circling to the other side of his desk, where he sat down in front of me. His gaze lingered a moment longer than I'd have preferred.
"How's Alexander?"
"He's good,"
"Really?" Erwin raised an eyebrow. "He's doing okay with you on the Levi Squad?"
"Yeah, he's been really supportive, helping me with different things," I lied, attempting to paint a positive picture.
"Ah," Erwin mused, sifting through paperwork and extracting two sheets. "Then you won't mind telling me why Alexander was yelling at four in the morning." His smile persisted as he laid the papers on his lap.
I glanced at the papers and back at him. "I'm sorry, Commander," I said with a smile, mirroring his demeanor.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"I guess it's best that we both tell the truth," Erwin remarked.
"The incident report is in my hands as we speak."
Why did I think I could deceive him? Erwin wasn't Levi or Alexander; he saw through facades. Rookie mistake.
"Okay, fine," I surrendered, though only halfway. I wasn't ready to reveal everything. "He got mad at me for staying up to do paperwork. He was just concerned for me."
Erwin hummed and stood up, tossing the papers into the fireplace while maintaining eye contact.
"Very well, then." His smile returned. "I wouldn't want to keep Levi waiting. Enjoy your day, Aldridge."
"Thank you, sir," I replied, grateful for the quick dismissal.

"Iris," Levi's voice echoed through the training grounds.
I propped myself against the nearest tree, gasping for air as the ODM course left my chest throbbing with pain. Levi's call urged me to action.
"Get over here. Quick," Levi commanded, his tone brooking no delay.
He didn't want a casual stroll; he demanded urgency, beckoning me to use my ODM gear to reach him. Releasing my hooks became a symphony of stabbing sensations, each motion harder to conceal.
"Why are you wearing your ODM gear incorrectly?" Levi lifted two fingers beneath my leather straps, giving them assertive tugs.
His fingers glided over my chest as he tightened every buckle, his scowl etching disapproval into his dark eyes.
"There's no reason your harness should ever be this loose," he reprimanded, continuing to cinch my straps. "Your ODM gear was one malfunction away from leaving you hanging by the cords. These wires are very dangerous. You could have lost a limb with how lax your harness was."
In the final tug, pain surged through me. I fought against collapsing, refusing to show weakness. As Levi's eyes met mine, I winced at the pain, trying to conceal it. His fingers grazed one of my bruises, rendering me speechless. I couldn't utter a word, fearing I might unleash more than words in the captain's presence.
"It hurts?" Levi asked, confusion etched across his features.
"No, I'm fine," I lied, suppressing the pain that clawed at me.
"Then get out there and run some drills." His hand patted my head and pushed me forward.
Taking a step away, I released my hooks, aiming for the nearest tree. My body betrayed me, halting mid-air, no movement could save me now. Instead of the graceful landing, I collided with the tree with a sickening thud, a sharp pain radiating through my chest. I crumpled, unable to move, the world spinning in a disorienting dance.
The loud whirls of ODM gear above were a distant echo, my senses dulled by the impact. Strong arms lifted me, and there he was – Levi, his concerned face hovered above me, but my mind was a haze, disconnected from reality. His fingers traced my chin, shifting my face, and then rested on my neck. The contrast between his rough, calloused touch and his usual demeanor was striking. A smile played on my lips at the paradox of his gentleness against the backdrop of his harsh persona.
Above me, Levi's voice echoed, distant and muffled. I smiled, lost in the surreal moment, he seemed concerned. His eyes told a different story than his usual stoic facade.
"I don't feel good." I laughed but the laugh slowly turned into coughing. I threw my hands over my mouth as the blood spilled out of my mouth.
His concerned face quickly turned to disgust as he looked at my bloody hands.
"Yeah. I don't think I'm supposed to do that." My eyes slowly fell closed, the last thing I felt was Levi jerk my body from the ground.
━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━
"Well, good morning, soldier," the lady greeted me in the sterile confines of the infirmary. White walls surrounded me, and a woman in a white coat stood beside my bed.
Maybe it wasn't just a bruise?
"That was a nasty fall you had there," she remarked, helping me sit up. I shrugged off the pain, laughing nervously. Why did it feel like my whole body had been run over?
"You broke a rib; it punctured a hole in your lungs. You'll be fine. Give it a couple of months, and you'll be good to go back flying around on those damn things," she reassured me, poring over some papers.
"Thank you," I said, grateful for the news.
"You know," she began, setting down the papers and fixing her gaze on me, "that rib wasn't a fresh crack."
"Ha, really?" I chuckled, attempting to downplay the situation. "Must've been out for a while."
"No, the way that fella ran in here with you, you wouldn't have had time to have bled as much as you did. You've been bleeding internally for hours, and I know damn well that fall didn't crack your rib," she stated, staring intently.
I was left speechless. What could I possibly say?
"The bruises on your stomach say otherwise."
"Being a scout isn't easy," I deflected with a laugh.
"And I know coming up with excuses ain't easy either," she retorted. "It's a matter of time till they start catchin' the lies and mixups."
"Aren't you tired?"
My eyes met her brown gaze, she looked at me in disappointment. What did she think she knew?
"You're not alone."
I remained silent as she left the room, her words echoing, a subtle offer to share the burdens. What was there to talk to her about? She took one look at me and assumed everything. How?
Levi walked in just as the nurse left, his presence filling the room. His eyes, colder than steel, locked onto mine.
"You idiot," he groaned, arms crossed. "How long did you know your rib was broken?"
I felt the weight of his gaze. Levi, usually pristine, wore the stains of my blood like a badge of annoyance. Why hadn't he changed yet?
"I didn't know," I lied, trying to hold his gaze.
"Bullshit," he spat, his eyes briefly softening as they met mine. The intensity became uncomfortable, and I broke away first. He leaned against the wall, a resigned "Tch" escaping his lips.
Levi had given up, a sight I thought I'd never witness. He looked at me again, breaking the silence, "How you holding up?"
"I'll be fine. Back in two weeks," I assured him. He rolled his eyes but concealed any disagreement.
"I already talked to the doctor," he disclosed. "You won't be ready until the end of October, shit maybe November."
I should've known they spoke, but what else had they discussed?
"I'm sorry, Captain," I mumbled, head hung low. "I understand if you want me off your squad. I'm only a liability."
"Shut up," Levi ordered. "You don't call the shots around here. You are a fucking liability, a pain in the ass. But I'm the Captain, and what I say goes."
He paused, his gaze piercing mine.
"You will become the best soldier the scouts have ever seen. I don't give a damn if you don't want to; you're on my squad now. You better enjoy your rest now because I won't be gentle with you."
Our eyes remained locked as I responded,
"Yes, sir."
"Good. Now we—" His voice was abruptly cut off by the door.
The door swung open, and Alexander entered, his gaze immediately locking onto Levi, dismissing my presence in the room.
"Alexander."
Levi's voice sliced through the tension, a rare acknowledgment that sent shivers down my spine. Levi's eyes trailed every move Alexander made, a predator assessing its prey.
Alexander's ocean eyes eventually met mine as he sidled up to my bed, gripping my hand with increasing pressure.
"Where have you been?" His feigned concern rang hollow.
"I got hurt during practice," I replied with a forced smile, my thumb grazing his hand as he tightened his grip. His dismissive response stung. "You'll be fine," he said, brushing off my discomfort.
"She's not fine." Levi interjected, his arms crossed as he leaned against the wall near the door.
"I'm sorry," Alexander turned to Levi, ignoring me. "I wasn't speaking to you."
Levi's eyebrow arched, his death glare intensified.
"Seems like you forgot about our little run-in the other night. I'd leave if I were you. Erwin's not here to save you this time."
Alexander's grip on my hand loosened as he backed away, leaving the room with a cryptic promise. "I'll see you later tonight," he uttered before the door closed behind him, and Levi promptly locked it.
"What was that all about?" I questioned Levi, curiosity getting the better of me.
"None of your business," he retorted, his demeanor as stern as ever.
"Well then, I'll just ask him when he comes back later," I responded casually, shrugging my shoulders.
"Doubt he'll say something," Levi remarked, his expression unreadable.
"And why's that?" I pressed.
Levi shot me a side-eye as he pushed himself off the wall, taking a seat in the chair beside the bed.
"Okay..."
"Aye, brat," Levi addressed me. "Did you just roll your eyes at me?"
"Yeah, I did," I admitted, snapping my head towards him.
"I'll remember that," he warned.
"Go ahead, no one is stopping you," I retorted, slumping back into the bed.
"What's got you so pissy?"
I glanced around the room before fixing my gaze back on the bed. "My damn rib is broken," I said, a bitter laugh escaping my lips.
"That's your own damn fault," Levi chided. "You should have known better than to practice while being injured."
"Save it," I shot back in frustration. "Outside those walls, if you're injured, there's no relaxing and stepping out. You push through it, or you're dead."
A heavy silence settled in the room, broken by Levi's voice. "You're right," he conceded. "But you're not outside the walls. You're inside. Until then, you are going to do whatever it takes to keep you alive and well. Got that?"
"Yes, sir," I affirmed.
"You guys got it lucky up here," Levi remarked. "Not everyone has access to a doctor or medicine. Take advantage of it while you have it."
Lying in the medical room with Levi keeping a watchful eye, his words about the scarcity of medical care outside the walls echoed in my mind. Not everyone had the privilege we did. Countless citizens in the innermost parts of the wall were in desperate need.
"Hey, Capt?" I addressed him, breaking the silence. "What do you mean by 'up here'?"
"What else could I mean?" he grumbled. "The underground doesn't have shit compared to the lives above."
"Are you from the underground?" I asked without hesitation, a question that had lingered in the air for so long. Levi's reaction spoke volumes – he looked like he wanted to kill me. The words slipped out before I could second-guess myself. It was something I genuinely wanted to know, a piece of the puzzle that was Captain Levi. The rumors were varied – from high-ranking officials' son to a country town, but the most persistent was that he hailed from the underground.
"Yeah, and?" Levi replied, scanning my reaction, as if he anticipated a negative response. But I didn't care. Who was I to judge someone based on their birthplace? If anything, I felt a sense of empathy.
"Ah, so the rumors are true," I remarked.
"It's not a secret," Levi said. "It's not like it's anyone's business either."
"No, you're right. It just explains a lot," I shrugged with a small grin.
"Explains what?"
"The way you act," I said, looking at him. "But also the way you and Alexander despise each other."
"I don't despise him," Levi asserted. I gave him a skeptical look, and he huffed. "I detest him."
"That's the same thing, Captain," I laughed. "Well, it explains the ego contests."
"What do you mean by that?"
"You both act like there can only be one person from the underground up here. Y'all got some unfinished business or something?"
"The hell are you talking about, Aldridge?" Levi was starting to get agitated.
"Did you guys know each other from the past?" I questioned.
"I've never seen that kid before," Levi stated. "Why do you think we know each other? Unless you know something I don't, cadet." His face was stern.
"I thought you guys knew each other by the way y'all acted?"
Levi's eyes widened. The confusion was etched away by anger as received the news.
"Alexander is from the underground."

For #ask the pack, first off not an ask but, I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT wait to see how innie joins the pack I’ve missed baby bread so much in the prequel. My ask is, without spoiling too much of the prequel, what was everyone’s moment where they knew they were in love with the rest of the pack? Like what was the thing that made you go “yep this is where I want to be for the rest of my life”.
"Umm, I don't think I really had a specific moment." Chan muses, thinking hard. "I knew for sure when Changbin showed me a picture of Hyunjin and (Y/N) that I had to meet and get to know them for some reason, but after that, I felt like it was all just a collection of small moments strung together for me? Like pieces of a puzzle finally coming together to form the big picture as we kept adding more members."
"Which made sense you felt that way when we discovered you were head alpha." Seungmin points out.
"I think for me, a big point of cementing my surety-especially about Chan-was when Felix had his heat and Hyunjin cycled at the same time, and I really got to see him for the first time in a sort of pack setting." You glance to Chan and give him a half smile. "I had already accepted the current members as pack, my wolf was sure, but watching Chan take care of and be careful with my packmates, that kinda helped finished settling things for me."
"I was happy with just (Y/N) and Hyunjin, I'll be honest." Changbin shrugs, arching a brow. "My alpha wasn't telling me anything big was missing or whatever. And then we met Jisung, and I kind of had this epiphany of "oh, we can just add to the love, not take away from it.'"
"And when he met Seungmin, he was a goner." Hyunjin teases, elbowing the alpha.
"Yeah, but that wasn't the point that did it I don't think." Changbin protests. "When it really hit me that I was in deep shit was when (Y/N) had her rut without us here."
"Ah yes." Minho smirks. "The cabin. Good times."
"Shut up." Changbin throws him a glare.
Minho smirks and settles back into the couch, unbothered. "I hated all of you at first, it's not a secret. I was all in for Jisungie, and I didn't want to let anyone in and see him get hurt."
"However-" He sighs, rolling his eyes. "The more time he spent with you, the more I saw his light return, and I knew, when he told me how much he loved all of you, I'd have to accept it. And then I watched you all take care of him, and I-"
"Fell in love with us." Hyunjin finishes teasingly with a triumphant smirk in the alpha's direction.
"Twenty minutes, Hwang Hyunjin." Minho threatens, but it doesn't hold his usual bite.
"I was head over heels the moment I accidentally ran into (Y/N) and Hyunjin in the lab." Jisung grins, winking at you theatrically. "And then they introduced me to Changbin, and I legitimately had dreams for days about him bench pressing me naked. I'm a sucker for pretty people. The ability to love me for who I am and help me through my moments of panic is just a bonus."
"I'm way too logical to ever let myself have a head over heels moment.' Seungmin interrupts their bickering, his expression serious. "I had to work my way through all the complex emotions starting with Changbin, and it took me a long time to admit to myself that biology had finally bested me when it came to the pack."
"Romantic." Jisung snorts, narrowly avoiding a well placed elbow from the other beta.
"It's cliche, but the moment I knew I would stay forever was when Felix joined us all, and everything suddenly felt like it was right where it needed to be." Hyunjin admits, glancing to the other omega with affection. "The icing on the cake was everyone else obviously."
"My moment was the same." Felix agrees with a nod. "Though I agree with noona, the first heat I ever spent with the pack was an important turning stone for me."
"I didn't know if I'd have a moment." Jeongin admits. "But then my presentation happened and watching how everyone came together to protect me and help me and guide me, well-" He shrugs sheepishly and Felix hugs him. "-I kinda liked that feeling."
"God, you're all being so sappy." Jisung complains teasingly, dramatically slumping on the couch between Seungmin and Changbin. "Let's just go back to fighting, please."

Overworked and stressed, Copia finds himself saying things he regrets. Though you avoid him for the rest of the day, you end up learning from Primo that being Papa is not easy and that perhaps it's your turn to teach Copia that he don't have to do things alone.
“You are upset.” It’s spoken like a fact, not a question which means Primo can clearly tell what kind of mood you seem to be in. You put down the bags of potting soil as you grimace at him.
“Is it that obvious?” You sound a little petulant, a little sheepish that you seem to be so see through. The papa chuckles however and shakes his head.
“No, I would not say it is obvious, my child. Simply that you have been helping this old man since sunrise and it is almost sunset, no? Don’t get me wrong, it is very nice help, but I have also noticed anytime your amore comes by you suddenly– what’s the expression? Vanish into thin air?”
Ah. Well. That would explain it, yes. He can tell from your silence that he is correct in his assumption and he lets out a little sigh before waving you over to walk to a nearby bench in the garden. “Let’s take a short break and talk, si? You do not need to talk about it, but perhaps it may help to.”
He takes a seat and motions for you to do the same. At first you hesitate, but eventually you cave and sit down next to him. Your entire day has been a sea of complicated emotions and you’re just too tired to keep fighting with them at this point.
“A lover’s spat, perhaps?” Again you grimace at how on the spot Primo is– and he sympathetically pats your shoulder.
“Kind of? I… I don’t know if it’s a spat exactly. I feel like it’d be easier if it were just some argument, you know?” And boy did you wish for it to be nothing more than a simple argument. You wish for it to be the kind of argument that simmers down after a while– and after a few hours of sulking alone you both forget what you were fighting about in the first place and fall back together like the missing pieces of a puzzle finding home. You just wish.
You’re never that lucky though. At least it feels like you’re never that lucky. Things just always seem to end in a battle no matter how good you thought you had it. One second you’re in paradise and the next the love of your life tells you that he doesn’t know if you’re worth it.
Copia hadn’t been this angry the time you accidentally spilled wine on his white cardinal suit or the time you accidentally threw away his entire sermon notes. Perhaps it was because he’s Papa now…?
You feel a pang in your heart at that, like your heartstrings are all tangled up and knotted inside your chest. He’d been a little more uptight lately, especially since becoming Papa. Maybe now that he’s someone now, he doesn’t need or want you anymore.
Fuck, you wish you had brought Malakai with you. He’d know what to think, or he’d at the very least judge you with his little eyes as if they were telling you to not worry and that everything would be okay. He was just wise like that.
At least the garden was in full bloom this time of year, flowerbeds teeming with colorful blossoms as the sun rose high into the sky.
As the thoughts come rolling, they burst from the seams like cotton, coming out as words of frustration and fear as Primo listens silently with a comforting hand on your shoulder.
It was a stupid mistake, an accident. You hadn’t meant to knock over your coffee but Copia just wouldn’t listen. He’d held the wet and stained documents in his hand and raised his voice and you had felt your hackles rise at that. You hated when people yelled, when people raised their voices in anger and Copia knew that.
“He said a lot of hurtful things,” you tell the papa listening beside you, “He said he didn’t know what he was doing, and he didn’t know what he’s doing with me. That he doubts our relationship.”
Primo takes a considerable amount of time in thought before he rubs his chin and fixes you with a wise look, “Did he say that? That he doubts your relationship?” He asks kindly. There’s no judging tone or disbelief. Just an honest question that makes you deflate and shake your head.
“Well… no, he didn’t. But it was implied I think.”
“You think?” He replies, and you purse your lips.
“Well, he said that he doesn’t know what he’s doing with me!” You feel like you’re bursting with emotion just remembering his words from this morning.
“Shh, my child. It is okay.” He gently gives your shoulder a squeeze, “Maybe give it some thought and take a step back, si? Your feelings are valid, your hurt is valid– but coming from experience, I think perhaps the one he is frustrated with is not you.”
“Then with who?”
“With himself, my dear.” His eyes are filled with glimmers of understanding and you find yourself pausing to digest those words. All other thoughts came to a stop and swirled around those two simple words. With himself.
“With… himself?” There’s uncertainty and question in your voice as you echo Primo’s words back to him. You look at him, begging with only glances to help you understand.
“Yes, with himself. Being Papa… is not easy.” He grimaces a little, “It’s no small responsibility, little one, especially with the Ministry in one ear and I imagine with Sister Imperator in the other. I remember I would often feel like Atlas holding up the world– when I passed the papacy to my brother it was like an enormous weight was lifted from my shoulders. So, it is my understanding that perhaps when he tells you that he doesn’t know what he’s doing and what he’s doing with you, it is in the idealization that perhaps he feels as if he is letting down everyone around him. Especially you.”
“Oh.” You fall silent. That would make sense; you know that Copia has always been a people pleaser, and has always wanted to impress those around him. Show them what he can do, prove that he’s worth it, that he can do it and more. Everything seems to fall into place a little more now.
Primo was probably right– Copia was probably just stressed. Fights and arguments are natural– and while this is new and he had said something very hurtful, it was something fixable with communication and effort. Perhaps you had been a little harsh too, another opposing force at his back while he struggled. There was no one in the right, no one in the wrong here.
You stand up with this realization with a sudden urgency to find your boyfriend. “I need to talk to him. Sorry, I–” Primo holds his hand up to stop you with an understanding smile.
“It is alright, my dear. Go find your papa and give him some love, si?”
With a determined nod, you take off to begin your search.
Finding Copia is proving to be difficult. He is not in his usual places like you’d expected, so you resign yourself to going to dinner and retiring for the night– hoping he would return that evening so the two of you could talk.
Dinner was a quick and simple affair and soon you were headed back to your shared room. When you returned, you noticed Copia’s shoes by the door, meaning he was inside. You swallowed, suddenly a little nervous. Still, you pushed forwards.
“Tesoro?” Your words are tentative as you look around the room to see Copia sprawled on the floor beside the bed, his back against the mattress as his shape is covered under a blanket. At the sound of your voice, the blanket shifts and he sits up and you can see he looks red-faced and distraught. He’s a sad mess, sniffling again before looking at you with pleading bloodshot eyes and a fresh wave of tears spilling down his cheeks. You can tell he’s been crying for a while at this point, it seems, his papal paint runny and blotchy.
You feel guilt ebbing at your heart and you’re at his side in an instant. Sliding onto the ground beside your papa, you pull him into your lap, wrapping your arms around him tight, as if you could hold him all together. “Shhh… shh, it’s okay. I’m here. I’m right here.” Your words wash over him like a blanket, warm and genuine, a comfort as you press a soft kiss to his temple. He’s tense at first, but once you pull him in he immediately melts against you, clinging tight. Once again you feel guilty, this time a sharp prick stabbing your chest. You had left Copia alone for so long, lamenting and selfishly worried about yourself when he had been the one who really needed someone there for him.
He seems to want nothing more than to just cry into you and have your reassurance and presence until all is okay again and as soon as he finds his voice, he’s babbling apologies and pleas for you to stay.
“Mi dispiace, amore mio– mi dispiace. Per favore– don’t go.” He's needy, trying to burrow his head into your shoulder until everything else fades away. Until it’s just you and him. You hold him just a little tighter. “It was me, it was all me– I was wrong, tesoro. Per favore, per favore–”
“Shh– hey, I’m not going anywhere.” You cut him off and press a kiss to his temple and he tremors in your arms. “You can let it out, I’m here. I’m right here and I’m not going anywhere.” You promise, humming gentle noises of reassurance. A muffled sob escapes from your shoulder as you soothe him.
It’s like he's a completely different Copia than the one at the Ministry, right now. When he’s there, he’s not allowed to show weakness. His mother doesn’t allow it. He has to be perfect. Perfect for her, perfect for the ministry.
(Because otherwise, what would it all have been for?)
And he’s been trying so hard recently, trying to please everyone around him, trying to please his mother. So much so he’s accidentally hurt his boyfriend– the most important person to him. How could he?
It's just been so hard lately. Ever since he had stepped up from being a cardinal to a papa, the pressure and guilt always seemed to hang heavy over his head. Of course it hasn’t all been negative— there’s a little more confidence in his step and he’s definitely grown a little more of a backbone in the ministry, putting forth his ideas and thoughts. They meant just as much as anyone else’s, if not more.
Still, he’s always been sensitive, especially behind closed doors. Always yearning for support, for a guiding hand. Needing the reassurance that he wasn’t a mistake. You knew some of his struggles, some of his insecurities and you feel like you should have known how heavy the burden he carried was– the weight he crumbled under, you should have known how hard he tries to please.
You know a little about his childhood. He doesn’t speak of it often but sometimes, when it’s just you and him in the dark with his head against your chest or yours against his, hands intertwined so tightly you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins— he’ll talk.
He was such a lonely child, with little family or friends. His mother was rarely around either, too obsessed with his father and the ministry. When he grew older, she finally seemed to pay more attention but only with the highest expectations. He was her magnum opus after all.
You rock him in your arms; gentle waves kissing the shore with open arms. Comforting him with low whispers of love and praise. You tell him how good he is, how you know he’s been working hard. You tell him how much you love him, how proud you are of him. You wipe his tears away with your thumb and press a soft kiss to his tear-stained cheeks.
When it feels like he’s calmed down enough, you tentatively speak. It’s a question that you feel like you already know the answer to, “Did you mean what you said this morning?”
He shakes his head frantically, quick to also vocally beg his case.
“No, no– I didn’t mean those words at all, I was an idiot, it was all me. I didn’t mean it the way it came out, I was wrong.” He clings to you even tighter. Seemingly overwhelmed, he makes little noises, unable to continue putting in words how he feels. Despite the situation, you find it cute when he struggles like this, when he makes little adorable unintelligible noises as he tries to pull the correct things to say from his brain.
“Shhh, you don’t have to say anything, it’s okay. I know.” Your voice is like a balm to his hurts, to the little voice in the back of his head that nags at him constantly that he isn’t enough. He falls silent and his entire body relaxes against your chest. Though little shivers and sniffles still run through him, he’s mostly gone quiet in your arms. Letting you put him back together. “I know you didn’t mean it this morning– I know you were stressed. Yes they hurt,” He lets out a wounded noise that you soothe, “But I know you’re having a hard time right now, aren’t you?”
There’s a few moments of quiet before he silently nods and you reward him with a kiss, lips brushing against his temple and forehead. “I’m also sorry for storming off and not communicating better. Perhaps we will both work on that, hm? I will try to be more understanding in the future. All I ask is that you don’t shut me out, that you lean on me when you need to. You’re not alone, okay? You’re not alone anymore.”
Your hands begin to rub little comforting circles against his back as he nods against you. It doesn’t take much longer for him to sink into you completely and suddenly, Copia is a puddle in your arms.
You chuckle lightly, unable to resist giving him another kiss to his temple. “You’re just a little puddle in my arms, huh?” You tease, “A cute little Copia puddle.”
Copia's face brightens a little, though his cheeks tint a little red, and he lets out a soft laugh of his own, face still buried against your chest, and you feel the worry in your chest loosen at the sound. He doesn’t deny it though, especially as he burrows even deeper into your arms. He really is just a puddle in your arms, relaxed and content to soak up your affection.
“Mm… my little puddle.” He lets out a little snort and you can’t resist the teasing. “All mine, mm?” You pepper his face with kisses.
"All yours." Copia replies, though words are muffled from lying against you and you know he’s a little embarrassed but content too. Relieved. He’s not used to the positive attention, the love you try to shower him in. Even so, he soaks it up like a sponge because it’s all he’s ever wanted.
You continue to rub his back soothingly, your rocking slowing until you settle with him against the pillows. You feel his heartbeat even out and the sniffles subside almost completely. “Feeling better, tesoro?” You ask gently.
He nods against your chest, eyes closed and contented with your arms around him. “Thank you for not leaving, topolino.” He murmurs quietly. He knows he’s not alone anymore, and it makes all the difference in the world. He had been so afraid of losing you after he’d said those hurtful words to you, unsure of what he’d ever do if you walked out on him.
“Oh tesoro– I would never leave just because we had one fight. It takes a lot more to scare me off, you know? And besides,” You lean over to pluck Malakai from the sheets, where he’d been keeping an keen eye out for trouble and had been watching quietly, “I’m sure Malakai would miss you terribly.”
That provokes a smile from Copia and he gingerly takes Malakai from your hands and gives the goat plush a good cuddle. “He is a very good comforter and protector.” Malakai definitely agrees with a little twinkle in his eye, happy to help. You return his smile with a hum of agreement and lean in to give Malakai’s cheek a little kiss. Copia follows suit and gives him a kiss on the other cheek and Malakai is very pleased with this new development. You can tell from the twinkle in his eye.
In a little bit, you’ll get up to run a hot bath where you’ll sit together as you gently help him remove his ruined makeup. He’ll be so soft and pliant in your arms as you wash his hair for him, peppering his face in kisses that he can’t escape. You’ll be ready to help him out of the tub with a big fluffy towel and once you’re both in comfortable pajamas, pull him into bed where he’ll settle into your arms once more. And when the lights have gone out and the room is filled with only soft breaths, you’ll gently ask if he wants to talk about what he’s stressed about..
Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. Regardless, he knows it’ll never change anything between the two of you. You’ll tell him you love him, and he’ll whisper the words back so quietly it’s almost inaudible. You’ll tell him that you can’t hear him and he’ll make his little noises from where his head is tucked against the crook of your neck and you’ll laugh. You’ll look at Malakai who’s squeezed between the two of you and tell him out loud how Copia’s once again become a soggy little puddle– to which Copia will huff but you’ll feel the upward curve of his lips tickle against your skin as he smiles.

The Boys are packing their belongings together. They'll leave the farm early tomorrow morning. One of the neighbors gifted them an old horse trailer for Adriano. (In fact they were happy to get rid of it. Now that the horse hype is over, the trailers can be found abandoned all over Chestnut Ridge...) Jack: "Ah I can't wait to leave! We almost spent two months here in this wasteland!"
Tumblr media
Ji Ho looks not good at all. Saiwa: "Don't worry. We will find a place for us. In the meantime we can stay at the Bunker or at the Temple." Ji Ho: "Ok..." Saiwa doesn't know about his inner turmoil revolving around Vlad and his dead brother...
Tumblr media
And then Kiyoshi called Saiwa inside. Kiyoshi: "I'm leaving tonight. It's too uncertain for me now that the Farm is visible again and I'm not protected by how different time goes by here. The Council will want to see me soon. And I thought I might have my eyes and ears there to warn you if somthing comes up about you." Saiwa: "Thank you, Kiyoshi. For everything you did for us."
Tumblr media
Kiyoshi: "And Dtui wanted me to give this to you. You know our deity, Kōjin, is watching over the household (editor's note: not only Kōjin, the three old hags too!) and so we learned about Jeb's and your problem..." Saiwa: "Problem?" Kiyoshi: "Him beeing afraid to hurt you." Saiwa: "Ohhh... and there is something inside this box that can help?"
Tumblr media
Kiyoshi: "Yes, it's a wand and polish. Dtui bought it at 'Ye Olde Magick Shoppe' near the school they went to." Saiwa: "A wand? But I can't use wands and Jeb never uses a wand either." Kiyoshi: "Therefore. This is a special 'wand'. And it will help you to - slowly - get accustomed to Jeb's 'wand'. Make sure to use plenty of the 'polish'."
Tumblr media
Saiwa: "Ohhh! I see! Oh Kiyoshi! That's so thoughtful. It will help us so much! I was a bit clueless, I must admit."
Tumblr media
Saiwa: "Thank you Kiyoshi and thank Dtui and Kōjin from us! You are really something else. I felt that from the first moment I met you - it literally hit me like a bolt! Hahaha."
Tumblr media
A bolt? A BOLT???
Tumblr media
Jack's fuses blew. Gladly he hadn't dissembled his whiteboard yet. And so he put all the puzzle pieces together: 1. The evidence someone met his fated mate is that it hits them like a bolt. 2. Jack hadn't been hit by a bolt ever. 3. Kiyoshi claims he had been hit by a bolt when he first saw him, but there was another person in that room, except Dtui (who already had met her fated mate) and that was 👉 Saiwa! 5. And Saiwa just said he had been hit by a bolt when he first saw Kiyoshi! 6. What when on the day Kiyoshi asked Ji Ho for a prom date 'with his cute friend over there' he meant Saiwa and not him? 7. Therefore he walked past him on prom day! Because Saiwa is Kiyoshi's fated mate and not him!
Tumblr media
Jack: "What game are you playing, demon?"
omg Jack...
