What year does NSR take place in, anyway? (theory)
I've had this question for a bit, and I came up with a theory, like, nearly 2 years ago by now, so I figured I'd share it here......
There are MULTIPLE OPTIONS I came up with.... here goes,,,
For starters: how do we even start? There's no indication of a year anywhere in the game! Nuh uh... there is!
Let's start by process of elimination: in one of the AMAs, one of the devs (I think it was Haz?) said that NSR does not take place in 2020, and in not in a post-pandemic world. So the maximum year is 2019. (They've also refused to actually answer on another occasion, though, so I'm not sure which is accurate.)
And, in one of the areas near the Mamak, Zuke notes how there hasn't been a specific music award since the 90s
Tumblr media
So we know for certain (ish) that the game takes place between 2000 (if Zuke was referring to the early 90s) and 2019.
There's also a canonical date that the audition took place:
Tumblr media
Monday, on the 7th of August. Because 2023 also has this date, we can see the previous years this specific day and date fell on.
The only years this date falls on are 2000, 2006, and 2017. (Now, I know that this is probably some random date, but I'll do what I can bro!!)
There's another clue to the setting: Neon J. He specifically mentions having served in the military in "'67", which can be from any century or millennium, but if we assume he meant 1967, we have to possible outcomes: 2000 or 2017.
We have little to no information about Neon J, but we do have some facts that can help us: the minimum age for serving in the military in Malaysia is 17. Let's say that Neon J was referring to his first serious mission when ranting to b2j about the azkar faction. That would mean he was 17 in 1967, making him 50 in 2000. Now, I know the devs said he was around his 40s, so we can use birthday logic and cay that maybe he is 49 now, and turning 50 later in the year. Kind of shaky, but I do like how it reflects the rise of EDM over Rock in the 2000s, and it fits with the fact the game is based on lots of early/mid 2000s media. As for the technology being so advanced for 2000, they have a giant nuclear reactor that turns sound into power in the middle of the city. I'm pretty sure they're much more technologically advanced than we were back then. As for the 2017 theory, we can also say that maybe Neon J died or was comatose for a very long time starting in his 20s, and was resurrected as a cyborg shortly before NSR was founded. That means he'd have been born over 40 years ago, but wasn't alive for a lot of it, so he was frozen in time for bit, like Aang in the iceberg. That, or he died in his 40s and it stuck in that mentality. Who knows!
There's also the possibility that Neon J meant, like 2264 or something and NSR takes place in the very far future, but idk I don't like that as much for some reason.
(p.s., just remembered that this is on those toy frame thingies in sayu's boss fight. this either means sayu was made in-universe in 2018, or this was simply when the modellers/painters worked on this specific model)
Tumblr media
TAKE WHAT YOU WILL FROM THIS..... THANK YOU FOR READING MY THEORIES....
(Edit: thinking it over, I could see it being 2006, as a compromise between 2000 and 2017)

Davy Jones' Origin
Tumblr media
Some time ago I’ve started to wonder if Davy Jones possibly spoke Scottish Gaelic besides English, or if it could even be his actual first language. Although he is never shown speaking it or having a particular connection to his homeland besides speaking with a Scottish accent, I think it would make sense, given Scotland’s history before and during the 18th century. Therefore, I thought this could be an interesting topic to examine. Mind you that I’m not a historian, and not an expert on those topics, I merely love exploring and extending the backstory of one of my favourite characters.
Spoiler: I don’t even get to discuss the initial topic itself in this text, this serves more as a setup where I try to sort my countless thoughts that I have about Davy. I plan to talk about it in another text some time in the future though.
Before looking at the language topic, I think it makes sense to look at Davy’s general background. His origins and his life before he fell in love with Calypso are largely unknown. It can only be estimated for how long he has roamed the seas ever since, but I think it is safe to assume that it has been multiple decades at least, though more likely centuries already.
The official wiki states that he and Calypso met and fell in love at an unknown date – and under unknown circumstances – between 1600 and 1660. It is not known for how long their relationship lasted before Calypso made him captain of the Flying Dutchman and put him in charge of ferrying souls to the afterlife. It could have been mere weeks, but also months or even years. In case of the latter, they probably saw each other on a semi-regular basis, as Davy would visit her during his voyages. All in all, it leaves a lot of room for interpretation (and fanfictions).
However, it is known that as Davy felt betrayed by Calypso when she didn’t show up to meet him, after he had fulfilled his duty loyally for ten years, he convinced the newly formed Brethren Court to bind her in human form. For some reason, the German PotC wiki states that the First Brethren Court convened presumably around 1640. Although there are no sources cited to back up this claim, there is no explicit contradiction to be found either. Assuming it is true – after all, it would be within the given timeframe – , Davy would have taken up his duty around the year 1630. By the time the movies take place, he would therefore have captained the Dutchman for around 100 years.
In a few instances of the official wiki, Davy is described as a “young sailor” when he meets Calypso. In other instances, no indication on his age is given. “Young” could supposedly mean he was in his 20s or 30s, which would therefore set his birth date around 1600.
On the other hand, he already looks significantly older when Calypso reveals his human form (the actor Bill Nighy was in his late 50s at the time the movies were produced). Of course he could simply have aged, however – though this is just my personal opinion – I like to think that he was already on the more mature side when he became cursed – possibly somewhere between the age of 40 and 60 – and that the curse either stops or at least alters the natural aging process of any person affected.
There is barely any specific canon information on this, but as shown in the movies, both Davy and the rest of the crew have maintained excellent physical strength and agility (in fact, it’s even enhanced compared to regular humans). This makes me assume that the curse either just stops their aging process and they stay at the same level of physical fitness that they had when they first fell under the curse, or that their transformation into sea creatures somehow slows down or alters the process, for example by balancing out their age-related physical decay by adopting more and more features from animals or other marine life.
Assuming he was already a middle-aged man, possibly around age 50, Davy would have been born in the late 1500s. On a personal note, I could also imagine that the story as a whole took place even earlier, and that Davy could have been born anytime during the 1500s or even the late 1400s. As the whole story around Davy Jones and Calypso is held very vaguely and even treated as a legend, there aren’t many concrete contradictions. However, as the First Brethren Court and Calypso’s capture are said to herald the start of the Golden Age of Piracy – which historically took place roughly between 1650 and 1730 – , it makes sense for those events to take place at a later date to connect everything (somewhat) logically.
To conclude this little examination and sum up the numbers: Davy Jones was presumably born in the second half of the 16th century. He and Calypso met before or around the year 1630, and around another ten years later, after their mutual betrayal and Davy abandoning his duty as a result, the curse started to take effect. Up until the events of Dead Man’s Chest, he has already captained the Flying Dutchman for almost a century, and reached an age of about 150 years – although due to the curse, this number doesn’t have a particular meaning in relation to his health or physical condition.
Of course, in the end this all is just my interpretation based on the rather sparse information that the official canon gives us. But it was certainly fun to finally bring some of my countless thoughts about Davy onto paper (trust me, there are a lot of those whirring around in my mind, but it’s not always easy to get hold of them). I haven’t even touched on the topic I actually wanted to talk about – that being Davy Jones’ relation to the Gaelic language and his homeland Scotland, but I really hope to do so in another essay.

What are your headcanons dynamics in Byrgen class? Who was the smartest? Who was the president in the class. Who skipped classes? Who hated each other? Who was teacher's pet? Who allowed to copy their homework. I'm running out of questions but please do free form and share everything
OH!!! 👀 a question About the Byrgenwerth squad ?! For real!!!! Oh thank you!! I sure wanna talk about them quite a lot!
When I first got into bloodborne the first stories I imagined were about Byrgenwerth and all this little gang! Or like my friend Crow would call them… Willem’s lil troop (of future mass murderers and mentally ill people). My first multi chap fic about bloodborne that I’m trying to write is focus on the Byrgenwerth era too! So it would probably be more develop here in the very long run (writing is hard  Maria is not even at Byrgenwerth yet lmao💀) but I will still try to answer and put what I can think off here!
I did talk about a few characters individually too so it could give a few infos but let’s go class dynamics!
But first here’s the list of who I imagined was at Byrgenwerth at that time.
As students: Caryll, Maria, Ludwig, Rom, Micolash, Damian (above class from them) & Charles (Cainhurst oc, above class) oh and the future forgotten madman and his escort.
Laurence is their theology and physiology teacher but he had a few class a few years earlier alongside Gehrman XD
Gehrman, Dores & Liam : groundskeeper, graveyard and mr gatekeeper (the guy with the password). Ok Dores is super scary but if she likes you it's really good👍
Patches is a janitor who will eventually become a scholar after our favs students graduated. (He shouldn't be here in the first place XD)
and of course there’s Willem the provost, the headmaster.
The other characters I won’t cited are either not around to not born yet. Or not relevant for now.
I think Byrgenwerth is kinda an university so even if they have many classes not just in an amphitheater with hundred of students they can have classes with 20-40 students but it’s never the same ones depending the subject teach and the options of everyone. Yet there’s a few class when they can all be together x) so I don’t think they would had a class president? Idk I didn’t thought about it they probably had a representative. I guess Ludwig could make a great representative of the students? Idk
Ok so for the homework I did this meme a while ago XD
Tumblr media
For the rest let’s start with Gehrman and Laurence who had a few classes together. Not lying I see Laurence trying to stay serious in front of the teachers (because he kinda live with Willem since a few years) but being absolutely a clown class actually XD  don’t listen all the time, skipped class, party hard and all at the beginning! Still he helped Gehrman when he had difficulties and he helped Laurence back by providing emotional support when he didn’t feel well.
But hey he graduated become a teacher and is doing a doctorate so hey believed in your dreams XD
Now for the others. Smartest, I would say Caryll I think. A gifted child who skip at least one year (before Byrgen). They have an ability to understand things that is quite remarquable and really surprising. I mean they translated the runes! People have no idea how that make sense to them. Lil guy of the group everyone loved him. If your mean to them everyone is gonna kick your ass.
Poor Rom on the contrary is no really smart 😢 still she work really hard and try helped by her friends! + she have tons of knowledge on insects. Not useful all the times but when smn have a bug in room they always call Rom to help them XD
Those two could be the teacher pets too (Micolash tries too XD). Like I said everyone loves Caryll and Rom is basically Willem’s daughter in my headcanon.
Maria is also quite smart in a lot of subject (thanks Cainhurst eduction and her grand curiosity). She didn’t really had friends at the beginning, for some reason people didn’t like her and she hate to stay with the rich kids from cainhurst & other noble family (except like 1 or 2) that changed thankfully.
For Ludwig I think he would be average in most of the class yet maybe really good in a precise field.
Mico probably think he’s smarter than everyone XD sometime.
Damian he’s kinda the most normal students ever who’s tired of everything else the other get in trouble with..
About Charles now, an oc I created (but fit in the lore it’s a secret shhh) he have ties with Cainhurst and know Maria, Annalise and all since little. He’s in an upper class (he’s older like Damian) kinda the cool popular guy who tried not to cause to much trouble but still a little. Do a lot of party with the « cool annoying kids » you know u_u still he’s better than them XD from Maria saying. Always been here if she needed help.
Omg Caryll Maria and Ludwig dynamic can be resumed like this :
Laurence : why when something happened it’s always you 3.
Tumblr media
They got in trouble with eldritch entities while trying to train to go tomb prospecting it’s not their fault! XD
See those drawings too.
They were supposed to train with Dores & Gehrman to go tomb prospecting and… It end well I swear XD
About the. Future forgotten madman & escort this 2 are always together and get into troubles quite often.
Other dynamics :
Gehrman is like the big brother of the group. I don’t wanna hear other wise. That made him really anxious but at least he had a purpose and smt else to do with his life ❤️ babysit 7 crazy scholars is hard yes. But he’s crazier actually so idk what’s worse really.
Also he’s supposed to guard the campus at night but can’t bring himself to be to angry at students who don’t respect the rules XD he did lecture for 2-5mins future forgotten madman & escort because they came back from the forest and climb a wall or smt XD but hey Caryll is allowed to stare at the like at like 2am because they can’t sleep no problem XD Gehrman do the same to so smt they talk a bit!
Caryll & Rom : they share a braincells. Either they don’t understand what the hell is going on or they’re enlightened with knowledge.
Rom & Caryll & Maria really get along well! The more calm little group too (Yes the 3 boys= Ludwig Mico & Damian are more messy and loud for exemple)
Maria & Ludwig : ok so this one is funny, I hc Ludwig is coming from a rich family. And I was inspired by a few fic where they had class together and Ludwig wonder if she can stand him but actually she sit next to him because well she do stand him XD
I imagined not long along how they become friend kinda! You see they had prospector training & a few class together but don’t really talk a lot together. Then they got invited to the cool kids party in Yharnam; Problem : because of some « incidents » in the pthumerians labyrinth there’s a curfew at Byrgenwerth. So they need to came back not too late. « Yeah we’ll call a carriage for the ones who got back ! » they didn’t call a carriage.
So you got Maria and Ludwig who decided to return at Byrgenwerth in the middle of the night and having a lil walk in the forest. They don’t really have the choice and it’s better to not go alone so they do the route together. It’s a bit awkward at first but they begin to talk and all. They got along well. Well they arrived late of course. Ludwig thought Gehrman was going to freaking yell at them or smt (he didn’t know him well and well the groundskeeper is intimidating at first) but no he just told them to be more careful or they could get into trouble x)
Yeah thankfully Maria was already friend with him XD kinda become friends the same way he became friends with Laurence but anyway… (he tried to plant flowers heh asks her opinion on it and she explain a few stuff in botany XD) also they just casually went hunting in the woods on day XD yes prospector training ahaha
To get back to Ludwig and Maria, on their 2nd year at Byrgenwerth she bring her horse and she allowed Ludwig to pass some time with him go and ride and all. Ludwig show her an old picture of the pony he had when he was a kid. On group project either they get to excited and fail XD but succeed the 2nd time generally.
Mico & Rom and Damian : almost inseparable. The 2 boys kinda assign themself at her best friends/bodyguard or smt XD
And you can be sure Mico & Maria would argue a lot if they had a chemical exercice to do together or smt.
And what about them all together as a group dynamic hm? Well either they're genius or a mess XD yep they end up in danger. Again. During prom night!!! Gasp :O
And in last, sometimes there’s free (class) conferences held by Willem or other teachers and they can all assist to it! Yes even Gehrman and Laurence. It’s quite fun x) Quite a mess but fun.
Hope you enjoy! I probably forgot a few things but I hope it will do for now. It’s hm more focus on and the students first & beginning of the 2nd years/5 at Byrgenwerth of the students too. Sorry for the lil delay too last days were a bit busy!

Potentially controversial topic: I'm not entirely against "child marriage." Ok so, hear me out...
Firstly, I'd like to point out that consent is very very important. Obviously, parents shouldn't force their children into getting married regardless of their age.
Secondly, according to Islam, as soon as someone has gone through puberty, they're physically able to reproduce and could get married if they wanted to.
In the Western world, legal age counts as 18-21 years of age, but that's not the same for a lot of eastern countries. I'm not saying either one is right or wrong. It really depends on the situation.
The prophet in Islam was arranged to marry one of his wives when she was about 5 or 6 years old, but the marriage only became official when she reached puberty at the age of 9. I think things were very different in those times though. She was a lot more mature than the average 9 year old these days. There were also more pious people with less pedophiles and things weren't so messed up that time. She was known as one of the wisest women of their time and he was known to be trustworthy, so it worked for them.
He married his first wife when he was 25 and she was 40, so age gaps are not an issue to me either.
All of my great grandparents got married in their teens.
I think that things were very different in those times though. People nowadays mature at a slower rate than people in the past, so there are a lot of people that shouldn't be getting married when they're not ready. Kids a hundred years ago had a lot more responsibilities with working and running households compared to kids now that are still learning to tie their shoe laces.
I don't think kids should be getting married straight after puberty. They should get some time to settle into life and to get to know their bodies before having to share it with someone else. Obviously marrying kids off before puberty is out of the question. That's entirely just wrong. They should have some time to figure out where they want to be in life and parent shouldn't just decide on their behalf before they have a chance to decide for themselves.
I also think that getting married shouldn't interfere with getting an education. If getting married and having to take care of a spouse and run a household is going to disrupt someone's studies, then I think that it should rather wait till after.
If getting married sooner is going to reduce sin and risks of children being born outside of wedlock, then go ahead and have a happy married life, keep your honour and stay without guilt. It's much better to have a married teen that is doing everything above board than to have a teenager sneaking around and getting pregnant, getting STDs, causing complications or bringing shame to their families and themselves.
I think it ultimately depends on the situation, so both the parents and the kids should think about it carefully. Personally, I wouldn't encourage child marriages, but I don't think it's entirely wrong. I would rather wait till I'm entirely ready and responsible enough to handle marriage before committing myself to it, even if that means I have to wait another half a century. It really just depends of the personal growth and development of the person which doesn't really have a specified age because everyone matures at a different rate. But yeah, hypothetically, if for example, a responsible mature 16 year old was done with their studies or able to continue studying, wanted to get married instead of having children out of wedlock, I don't see why we should judge them or disallow it.
P.S. If someone reading this is not Muslim, please don't be quick to judge the facts about Islam that I mentioned. Islam is a peaceful religion that wouldn't force anyone into something they didn't want to do. Times were also very different, so please put the information into context if you are quick to disagree.
(Also, this is kinda ironic that I'm posting about this here considering the smut stuff on this blog, but that's all theoretical imaginary stuff that doesn't affect real life compared to physically going out and doing nasty shit. I don't claim to be perfect. Just a disclaimer 🤷🏽‍♀️. A girl can fantasize all she wants about Jungkook, right? Lol)
I am a Muslim and I know this, but like those times were really different, nowadays most ppl act like p*dophiles, in Islam consent is also very important, the nikkah is not valid until the girl agrees to marry from the depth of her heart, if a person is forced to marry, the nikkah is null.
and yes, all of the stuff on this blog is strictly fictional. and I agree that Islam is a very beautiful and peaceful religion 🩷
Child marriage is a crime I think. :/

Ok I want to ask here because I feel like anywhere else I’ll get shouted out lmao but after the post about gd and his gender like I’ve never really gotten it. What is gender? I don’t understand how gender is different from sex? And I’m not trying to be provocative I’m young myself so I hear this language the whole time but it just confuses me. Like how can someone be a man but be a they? I’d love if you could explain lol because if I ask people they get quite tricky or annoyed if you question it, hope you understand
tbh? I'm going to be extremely textbook by this and everyone will be beyond pissed with me for this: gender & sex by science, evolution, medical standards and just from human history is strictly male & female.
Sex
Sex is the trait that determines whether a sexually reproducing animal or plant produces male gametes or female ones.
Gender is more of a social construct these days. If you are at least 25-33+ you arguably know regardless of what social backlash or pressures you would get from people /now/ that let's say from the 40s-2010, there was socially across the globe on a mainstream level no such thing as all of they/them/we/etc. This is all very complex and would take a documentary style deep dive, but all I am going to tell you is it's all right now a new shift and product of this Gen Z and other younger generations (most millennials too) ushering in a new era of the LGBTQ being equals to "cis" people. Cis globally especially in the professional relam was never a thing either, you were either male or female.
You're asking how can a man be a "they" this is all one individual's choosing. Basically they are saying that they are a male biologically and still identify as a male (loosely) but see their masculinity / femininity/ position in society as well as viewing themselves as either gender fluid or not specfically a man. I mean, deep down, I think I was a man in a past life and I could technically go by she / they / them cause of how I look. I easily get mistaken for a man due to my height I'm very tall for a woman and cause I'm tall I can carry more weight than most people combined, I have a wider and broader structure body wise than most women (not brolic or overly masculine) so I used to always get disprescted by pedestrians no matter HOW i presented myself publicly. I could be dressed up in head to toe pink kpop girl style outfits to HIGHLY show I am a female but still have some old ass punk or disrespectful poc passively call me a man just because of my height. So with that being said if I threw in the towel and said fuck it. I'll be both and just do whatever I felt one day i.e being very traditionally masculine one day then very feminine the next? I could pull it off and people would assign me my gender based on how they precieve what a man or woman looks like?
ANYWAYS
honey it's what we as people have defined and made. Not myself, but human kind in the west and some people overseas as well. I can't go any further cause this is very slipper territory. I'm just going to tell you straight up none of this existed about 10-15 years ago and that's a fact at least on the broader level. Nobody was walking down the street in collective pacts saying they were all of those things very openly. they may have defined themselves as that but there was a not a big liberation for that. This is why I used to always bring up age in past kpop talks cause age does have an affect if you can remember how things have evolved since like maybe 2001?
that's all. it's strictly by science male x female unless you are born with a defect that makes you have 2 gentials which you can get surgery to correct. but gender identity is a social construct and nobody implements this onto you but you yourself.

My Deep Blue Love (Tom Hiddleston x Fem!Reader) -- Soulmate AU one shot
This was 100% born out of boredom and loneliness and those damn Soulmate AU POV Tiktoks that I have seen practically 24/7 for the past WEEK on my fyp
(I’m not sure if I’ll do a part 2, rn I have no plans for it)
quick note on the technicality of this one: you lose all ability to see colors when you turn 12 and you don’t regain the ability until you meet your soulmate. but! you have to meet them in person and it has to be a mutual eye contact. pictures/videos of them don’t work, and if you just saw the back of their head or something in person, that doesn’t work either. it’s all about the shared eye contact babeyyy
small disclaimer: Brie Larson is mentioned in here and she has a wife, but that is very much only in this fic, and as far as i know Brie doesn’t have a wife irl lol (i also don’t know if she’s spoken about her sexuality at all so what i’m saying is take it with a grain of salt ok)
Summary: Everyone around you is meeting their soulmate, but you still see in black and white. You’re ready to give up, and basically have, when you lock eyes with your soulmate.
Warnings: None! Just a bit of angst, lots of fluff toward the end
Tumblr media
You knock on your mom’s bedroom door at 4:58am. She’s already awake, sitting up in bed, ushering you over.
With tears in your eyes, you crawl onto her bed, snuggling close to her chest.
“I don’t want to lose my colors,” you whimper.
“I know, baby,” she whispers, kissing the top of your head. “It’s okay.”
You were born 12 years ago on this day at 5:08am, so in a few short minutes, when you officially turn 12 years old, all color will drain from your life.
Or the colors could stay, but that’s only if you’ve somehow already met your soulmate. And that’s rare, nearly impossible.
You squeeze your eyes shut at 5:07 and you don’t open them again until 5:10.
The colors are gone.
+++
twenty years later
You sigh heavily as you receive yet another wedding invite. You are invited to witness the official beginning of Olivia and Jeffrey’s lives together as husband and wife, soulmates for all of time.
The glitter sticks to your fingertips, tiny black dots against your skin. Your friend told you it’s gold. You barely remember what that looks like.
Lately it seems like everyone has been meeting their soulmate. Just yesterday, you were having coffee with a friend when she looked up at the girl sitting behind you, and boom.
“It’s like the world just exploded,” she had said. Colors were everywhere. She immediately left you to go talk to the girl.
You don’t blame her for that. If you had met your soulmate, you probably would’ve done the same thing. But you can’t say for sure because you don’t know.
You wouldn’t be so cynical of it all if your boyfriend of five years didn’t meet his soulmate while the two of you were out at dinner. You wish you could say that he was faking it. But it was clear from his face (and the girl’s) that he wasn’t kidding. It was real. He had met his soulmate, and it wasn’t you.
It’s never you.
You’ve had guys cut off dates before they even start, all because they didn’t see colors when they laid their eyes on you. They refuse to even be friends with you.
All anyone is doing anymore is searching for a soulmate and it’s exhausting when none of them are yours. When all of your friends see color now. When everyone assures you that it’ll happen soon. What does soon even mean?
You grab your ice cream from the freezer and fall onto the couch, flicking to whatever channel has late night shows that aren’t complete garbage.
As usual, you find yourself watching a talk show, and tonight Tom Hiddleston is one of the guests.
You’re sort of familiar with him from a few movies, but other than that, you hardly know anything about him.
“So, Tom, we’ve all been wondering what’s going on with you and Brie Larson?”
“Brie?” Tom asks, clearly shocked to hear this question. “We’re just good friends, that’s all.”
“Oh, she doesn’t make you see any colors?”
“Ah, no, actually, she does not,” Tom chuckles, but doesn’t sound sad at all, surprisingly. “Her wife does that for her, not me, I’m afraid.”
“Oh really?” The host brushes past the mention of Brie’s wife and keeps the focus on Tom, of course. “So is that true, you still don’t see color?”
Your ears perk up at the mention of someone else not seeing in color. It’s rare for anyone to talk about this on television. Most celebrities don’t talk about whether or not they’ve found their soulmate, but more often than not, those that have are quite loud about it.
“Yes, that’s true,” Tom answers. “I still see the world in a lovely black and white.”
You snort, harshly jabbing your spoon into your ice cream. Lovely. Yeah, right.
“Do you really think it’s nice? Do you not miss the colors?” The host asks.
“No, no, I do. I do,” Tom admits. “But I like to think I’ll see them when the time is right.”
You groan, going to Google to look up his age. And when you see he’s 40, you groan even louder. He’s older than you and he still hasn’t met his soulmate. That’s just depressing. How can he sound so optimistic?
“Alright, well, if there’s one thing you wish you could tell your soulmate, what would it be? Maybe they’re watching right now, you never know.”
Tom smiles wide. “Maybe, maybe, um… Oh, so many things,” Tom exhales deeply. “I guess I could be cliché and say I can’t wait to meet them and wait for me, but I think I want to say… I think I want to say I understand. It is frustrating, still seeing in black and white, but our paths will cross soon, I’m sure of it. Until then, my eyes are blue.”
Blue. Blue.
You roll your eyes. You don’t even remember what the color looks like.
+++
seven months later
“I am not going to a movie premiere. You’re insane!”
“Please!” Your friend, Catherine, cries. “You’ll love it, I swear.”
You glare at her over your coffee. “That just makes it sound like you have a trick up your sleeve.”
“I don’t,” she says. “I just want you to take advantage of this and come with us! When will you ever have the chance to go to a movie premiere again?”
She has a point. Dammit. “Touché. How did you get tickets, anyway? Please tell me you didn’t spend thousands for this.” You wouldn’t put it past her, even though you tell her not to every time before she does something like this.
“God, no, Joe surprised me with them earlier. He said he went to school with the lead.”
“Oh. Cool. Who?”
“Tom Hiddleston, I think. Have you heard of him? He’s British, but that’s about all I know. Joe just said they ran into each other the other day and reconnected.”
You stop halfway through a sip of coffee, careful to not choke on it. Slowly, you nod. “Yeah. I...I’ve seen him in a couple things.”
“Apparently, he hasn’t met his soulmate either…” Catherine trails away, raising her eyebrows at you.
You roll your eyes. “I heard,” you set your cup down. “He’s probably met them by now though since he blasted it on television like that.”
“Or he’s still searching and you’re still being too cynical.”
“You’re probably right,” you chuckle.
“Sooo, you’ll come?”
You sigh heavily. “As long as you help me pick something to wear.”
+++
“I’m regretting letting you talk me into this already,” you mutter when you nearly trip in your heels.
“Oh, hush,” Catherine swats your arm. “It’s an excuse to get dressed up and look hot for no reason. Take it.”
“Fine.”
Catherine’s soulmate, Joe, was whisked away almost as soon as the three of you stepped inside the venue by some director (you think), but he promised to return in a few minutes. Catherine told him not to worry. She’s used to him being dragged away for conversation. You can see from her face that she’s more proud of him than anything, and not at all annoyed.
Currently, you and Catherine are standing near the small bar, waiting for them to announce that it’s time to take your seats. You desperately want a drink, but part of you knows it would be a bad idea.
One glass of wine can’t hurt, though. Maybe it’ll take your mind off the pain in your feet.
You peel away from Catherine when you see Joe coming back, and you flag the bartender down quickly.
After ordering a glass of white wine, you wait patiently, wishing you had chosen a dress with sleeves. It’s fucking cold in here.
“Darling, you’re shivering, are you alright?”
Your head turns toward the smooth voice, face set and mind trying to decipher whether or not it was a sincere or creepy comment when the world quite literally explodes.
There, standing beside you, concern written all over his face, is Tom Hiddleston. Only now the concern has washed away into awe when your eyes lock with his.
“Oh my god,” he whispers, stumbling even though he’s standing in place.
“Blue,” you murmur. “Your eyes are blue.” Without even thinking or asking, your hand lifts to cup his cheek, and then you pull back, “Shit, sorry—”
But he grabs your wrist gently, placing your palm on his cheek. “It’s alright.” His thumb strokes the back of your hand. “I have been looking everywhere for you.”
“I thought you didn’t exist,” you whisper in reply. But here he is. His eyes are blue, his lips are pink, he has tiny brown freckles all over his rosy cheeks. You look back to his eyes, narrowing your own. “You liar. Your eyes have green in them, too.”
“Do they really?” Tom chuckles. “I never would’ve known.”
“That’s why you have me,” you tease, and you don’t know where any of this is coming from, yet it doesn’t feel like you’re pretending. It feels like you’re finally yourself.
His other hand tangles with yours as he nods. “That’s why I have you, indeed.”
At this time, the lights in the theatre begin lightly flashing, signaling that it’s time for everyone to begin making their way to their seats.
But neither you or Tom move one inch.
The only issue is people are beginning to stare.
You notice it first, so you slowly pull your hand from his cheek. This movement shocks him back to reality, too, and he blinks a few times, yet he doesn’t let go of your hand.
“I, um, I have to make a speech,” he says. “But then I can come back to you. Will you save me a seat?”
“Don’t you have to sit up front?”
He nods. “I do, but—”
“Then I’ll come with you.” You aren’t sure if it’s the fact that he hasn’t let go of your hand yet, or if it’s because you’ve been waiting so long that now you don’t want him to be further than an arms length away from you, but you mean what you say.
“Are you sure?” He asks, but you both need to make a decision quickly because you can see someone waving from the wings, most likely trying to get Tom’s attention.
“I’m sure.”
He doesn’t question it, in fact, he grins, and brings your hand up to his lips, kissing your knuckles. “Let’s go, then.”

Series Masterlist
Tumblr media
Every agent in your division knew the Winter Soldier, the unstoppable assassin, the infamous ghost story, the man who had been fighting for over 80 years. He was a legend, and meeting him was something you were all taught to avoid ever since the espionage world had found out about his existence.
The last time, a whole team of heavily armed soldiers were sent to take him down and he had managed to disarm every single one of them without even needing a weapon. So theoretically if you were to send an agent to meet him, you would probably make sure that agent carried about a thousand weapons and preferably went there in a bulletproof vehicle.
Instead, you were told to wear a cute dress for the first date.
Lovely.
“How come I can’t wear any of my clothes?” you asked, pressing the phone to your ear as you took a look at all the dresses lying on your bed.
“Not that your sniper outfits aren’t hot, but wearing them to your first date with the Winter Soldier might not be the brightest idea.”
You heaved a sigh, “I still can’t believe you changed my whole wardrobe when I was outside, Chloe. What was wrong with my usual clothes?”
“They’re not what your cover would wear.”
“Uh huh.”
“Pick the one with those small flowers on it,” Chloe said, “Mini dress, chiffon. Cream colored.”
You hummed and grabbed the hanger, then held it over your body.
“Are we sure?”
“Trust me. Perfect for the first date.”
“Did mini dresses exist back in his time?” Keith’s voice reached you, making you frown, “Or was he born in those times with those giant dresses?”
“Excuse me, why am I on speaker?” you asked, “Also Keith, what are you doing in the headquarters? I need you and the team ready to interfere anytime.”
“I’m not in the headquarters, I was grabbing coffee and Chloe wanted to come with me. No worries though, we’re around your area.”
“Are you insane?” you snapped, “You brought her to the field?”
“We’re just getting coffee—“
“Chloe, get back to the headquarters,” you insisted, “Now.”
“No! You have a date, Keith gets to relax at this new café, and three of us can barely spend time together nowadays!” Chloe said, “It’s always you guys who have the fun.”
“Honey I’m on a date with the Winter Soldier so that I can gather intel, Keith is going to be at that café because he and the team needs to be nearby in case my cover is blown,” you said patiently, getting into the dress,  “It’s not like we’re hanging out without you.”
“Detail.”
“It’s not just a detail-“
“No I mean the security detail is ready.” Chloe cut you off, “I got my laptop with me, I hacked into the café’s wifi.”
You pinched the bridge of your nose, “You did what?”
“Yeah I figured I could use a change of scenery and Keith said yes.”
“Keith, I need you to listen to me carefully,” you said, “I’m going to kill you.”
“Y/N!”
“You can’t kill me.”
“Can’t I though?”
“Yeah you have a date, remember?”
You checked your wristwatch and cussed under your breath, rushing to put your shoes on.
“I put a small gadget into your wristwatch,” Chloe said, “I figured he’d recognize the ring if he saw it again. If you press the button there, the team will be called to your location shortly.”
“And if things get exciting, make sure to take the watch off,” Keith let out a laugh, “You don’t want us to interrupt your fun over an accident.”
“It’s just the first date, idiot.”
“Yeah and I’m—I’m sure there’s a rule against killing on the first date.” Chloe said, “Right?”
“Nah I killed a target on the first date before,” you mumbled, “But I wasn’t told to get into a relationship back then so… It’ll be different this time.”
“Try not to give the guy whiplash though, will you?” Keith said and you frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“It means dating etiquette changed since 1940s.”
“Oh don’t worry, I got that covered,” you said but your head shot up when you heard the doorbell ring. “I have to go.”
“Okay, but—“
“No time Keith,” you murmured, walking to the door. Your heart was pacing against your chest for some reason as if it was a real first date, and you swung the door open to reveal Bucky waiting for you at your doorstep. He put his hands into his leather jacket, taking in your appearance.
“You know what to do if you get in trouble.” Keith said and you hung up quickly to push your phone into your purse, smiling wide at Bucky.
“Hi!” you said, “Shall we?”
                                                         ***
Now to think of it,  the last time you had been on a date without carrying any weapons had to be ten years ago if not more. But you had clear orders for this one, your superiors were convinced that carrying any kind of gun or a dagger would alert him, even if you thought it was invisible to outsider eye.
After all, he was an assassin and looking for weapons on a person from miles away was second nature for assassins.
You would know.
“So you moved here a month ago and you just know one place?” he asked as you waited for the barista to prepare your coffee, “A coffee shop? That’s it?”
“I know a milkshake shop too.”
He tilted his head, “You mean where you work?”
“That still counts,” you defended yourself “But if you insist, I might let you show me around next time.”
“Please do,” he said, “Just a heads up though, there’s a huge possibility that most of the places I know has been closed down years ago.”
“Oh that’s okay,” you told him as the barista put your coffees in front of you. “We can explore the new sights together then.”
A smile graced his lips while he led you to the table furthest from the window facing the door and you had to suppress your grin.
You weren’t the only one who was scanning the cafe for possible emergency exits and safest spots after all. Sitting by the window was a civilian mistake because in case of a shooting, you’d be in the clear sight for the shooter.
You had a feeling not many people considered that possibility on a first date.
“That sounds good,” he pulled your chair for you and you paused only for a moment before taking your seat.
Right. Born in a different era.
He took off his leather jacket and your gaze wandered off to his vibranium arm before snapping back to his eyes. He was watching you with his brows slightly raised, as if waiting to see your reaction.
“Sorry!” You said quickly, “I’m sorry, I just…”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“Bucky—“
“Really,” he assured you, “Don’t worry.”
You took a deep breath, pushing your behind your ear.
“So, it’s good to meet in a place that looks like it belongs to 21st century isn’t it?”
He hissed in a breath, a mischievous light glimmering in his blue eyes “Do you want me to be honest?”
“Brutally honest.”
“I would be lying if I said I don’t miss the uniform.”
Your jaw dropped before a smile spread over your lips, “Look at that,” you said, “Told you you weren’t rusty.”
He chuckled, “I’d hope not.”
“And hey, if you miss how it was back then, some things aren’t that different than 40s,” you said, cradling the warm cup in your hands. He tilted his head.
“You think so?”
“I know so.”
“Like what?”
“You know, I’m glad you asked because I actually did research in case it came up.”
He lowered his cup, “You did what?”
“Um… do you promise not to be intimidated if I am brutally honest?”
He leaned in, eyes locked to yours, “Cross my heart.”
“I did research,” you nodded, making him let out a small laugh. “No wait, listen— I just… I didn’t google you or stalk you over Instagram so I had to prepare myself in a different way.”
“I know some of those words,” he pointed out and you took a deep breath.
“It means I didn’t look you up.” you said, “When I was sixteen, I promised myself I wouldn’t look anyone up before the first date but that rule doesn’t extend to doing general research.”
“You didn’t look me up?” he asked and you shook your head.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I like getting to know people on my own,” you said, “I’m not really interested in people’s pasts, does that make sense?”
He stared at you for a couple of seconds, “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“Maybe not,” you admitted, “But I’ll do it anyway. Trusting people is kind of my thing, past or not. I’d rather be mistaken than prejudiced.”
A silence fell upon him as if he was astounded and you rested your chin on your fist, keeping your eyes on him.
“What?”
“Nothing,” he said after a beat, “Nothing at all.”
“So—anyways, some things aren’t that different,” you said, leaning back, “Some details, that is. People still— we still go to movie theatres, that was a big thing back then too right?”
“Oh absolutely,” he said, “For first dates too.”
“We still wear hats sometimes,” you counted with your fingers, “Some people still prefer to call their partners daddy—in a different context, don’t google that— and we still have jello.”
“I heard about that,” he mused, a playful smile on his lips, “The jello, that is.”
You grinned, scrunching up your nose.
“So yeah. There’s your crash course.”
“I appreciate it,” he said with a chuckle, “And hey, if it makes you feel any better I didn’t google you either.”
“Because you don’t know how?”
“Because I don’t know how,” he admitted, “I should probably start making a list, I keep asking Sam about some pretty common information.”
“Really?”
“Yeah I mean—for example, I don’t know if it’s still acceptable to bring a gal-a girl,” he corrected himself and cleared his throat, “Flowers for the first date.”
“You were going to bring me flowers?”
“Yeah! Yeah . I was going to actually, then Sam said it was old fashioned. Sharon said it was a good idea, but…”
You furrowed your brows, “Okay let me get this straight, you listened to your friend who’s a guy and not your other friend who’s a girl. About what girls like on the first date.”
A look of realization dawned on his face, “That might not have been the brightest idea now that you mentioned it.”
“No disrespect to Captain America but he might need to work on his romance skills,” you pointed out and took a sip of your coffee.
“How about you?” he asked, “What’s your story?”
I was recruited at the age of 16, just last year I took down a whole team of bad guys all by myself, I could probably kill someone in 5 different ways using this coffee cup and spoon alone.
Or not.
You had been over this. You had a full file back at home filled with details of your new identity, designed to look unsuspicious.
“There’s not much to tell I’m afraid,” you muttered, “I grew up in a small town. Everyone knew each other, and I thought it was nice, until my grandmother passed away. Then there were way too many people asking me if I was okay. In the grocery store, on my way to work… I just wanted to get away.”
“I know the feeling,” he said softly and you nodded.
Of course he did. This whole identity was fabricated for him after all.
“So I figured I could move away,” you said, “There was nothing to keep me there after all. I lost my parents when I was little, that was the reason why my grandmother took me in.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Oh don’t be,” you said quickly, “Really. They just….”
My mom died in a car crash when I was 5, and one day I came home from school and my father was nowhere to be found.
Neither was his suitcase.
You had to give it to him, he had bothered to write you a note. If you could call that a note.
The infamous genius scientist had nothing to say other than he was sorry. You had burned that note that night, along with every picture in the family album.
“There was a car accident,” you tried to smile, ignoring the bitter taste at the back of your throat, “Drunk driver, came out of nowhere. They both died on impact, that’s what everyone says. I don’t remember them much.”
A silence fell upon you for a moment and you took a deep breath.
“Anyways,” you managed to say, “Enough about me. What about you?”
He paused before turning the cup between his hands, “That’s kind of a long story,” he said, making you arch a brow to shoot him a look.
“Well as it happens, my milkshake making schedule just cleared out.” you stated, making him smile, “We have unlimited coffee and time. Bring it on.”
                                               ***
Well, you didn’t know what you had expected but it wasn’t this. Considering he was under the impression that you were a civilian, of course he didn’t tell you any gory or top secret details but he didn’t try to make himself look innocent either, or any different than he was.
He was as sincere as an ex-assassin could be.
Cover or not, this was probably the best date you had ever been. In fact, after the first half an hour you almost forgot that it was fake, that you were supposed to dig for information instead of enjoying yourself.
You were still playing your part but it didn’t exactly feel like work.
“So no to motorcycles?” Bucky asked as you turned around to look at him better while you walked backwards.
“No to motorcycles!” you exclaimed, “Those things are deathtraps.”
“So when you said you couldn’t get on it because of your dress….”
“It wasn’t a complete lie,” you motioned at your dress, “Half because of the dress, half because I don’t want to die.”
“Do you seriously believe I’d let that happen?”
“Maybe.”
“Mmm and what was it you said earlier?” he taunted you, “About trusting people?”
“I trust people,” you insisted, “I don’t trust death machines, there’s a difference.”
Well, he didn’t need to know you had a motorcycle in Chloe’s garage.
“Here we are,” you pointed at the building standing a couple of feet away from you, “My apartment. See, I told you it was close. No reason for putting our lives in danger when we can just walk.”
“Does that mean I can’t show you around the city the next time?”
“On a motorcycle?”
“Mm hm.”
“I don’t—that’s a terrible….” You heaved a dramatic sigh, “Hypothetically speaking, what would I get in return?”
His smile was calm, almost amused, “What do you want to get in return?”
You crossed your arms, looking up at the sky as if you were deep in thought, completely aware of his gaze on you.
“Flowers,” you said after a beat, “I didn’t even know they were an option but now that I know, I want flowers.”
“Is that it?” he asked, “It’s ‘a death machine’, but flowers are enough to convince you?”
“Depends,” you mused silkily, a complete opposite of the wide-eyed look in your eyes as you batted your lashes, “What else do you want me to want?”
A shadow moved behind his gaze only for a moment before it disappeared again but it was more than enough time for you to see it, and that was when you realized that there was a reason why Chloe had sent you that file.
Bucky Barnes wasn’t completely a stammering love-struck puppy when it came to flirting. While it was true that he could be a little rusty –you didn’t know how he was back in the 40s-, he also knew when to stop talking to see how far you would go in this game.
He was letting you play and think you were in control before making his move.
Patience of a sniper.
“Um- thank- thank you for tonight,” you said, averting your glances as if you were embarrassed under his gaze, playing it coy, “I had so much fun.”
“Me too,” he said, “The next one will include flowers, I promise.”
You let out a nervous giggle and stepped closer to him before you stood on your tiptoes and pressed a kiss on his cheek. He inhaled your scent deeply, probably not even aware of what he was doing but you tried to hide your smile.
It was on the file Chloe had prepared about him. Bucky Barnes liked the scent of vanilla.
“Be careful riding that death machine,” you told him, biting on your lip before you made your way to the building. You hopped on the stairs to push the exterior door to get into the building, and pressed a hand on your chest, closing your eyes.
Why were you so giddy all of a sudden?
You threw your shoulders back and got into the elevator to press on the button to your floor. As soon as the elevator started to move, your reflection in the mirror caught your attention and you tilted your head.
Chloe had a point, it was a nice dress.
The elevator made a small noise and the doors slid open for you to pass, but when you entered the hall you stopped dead on your tracks. There were four agents waiting on your doorstep and before you could question what was happening, one of the doors in the hallways opened and Keith stepped out.
“Be careful riding that death machine?” he asked, “I could tell you the same thing but you didn’t invite him up here.”
“I wasn’t wearing a wire, how did you-?”
“We had a car around the corner just in case,” he said “You’d be surprised how far we can hear with these new gadgets.”
“I told everyone we can’t—“ you stopped yourself, taking a deep breath. “What are you doing here and why are there agents at my doorstep?”
He grinned at you, “How do you feel about being neighbors?”
“I feel fuck no about it, and why are there agents—“
“General is waiting for you in your apartment.”
Your heart dropped to your stomach, “What?” you asked as you walked past him and opened the door to your apartment, then stepped in.
“General?” you rasped out as you walked into the living room to find him there, sitting by himself.
“Shrike,” he greeted you, “Good evening.”
You tried to smile, “Good evening sir.”
“I wanted to see how the mission was going,” he said, “Your team says it’s been very successful so far.”
“It’s going according to plan sir, yes.”
“This was what, your first date?”
You licked your dry lips, commanding yourself to be calm. “Yes.”
He hummed and stood up, running a hand over his gray beard, his eyes darting around the room.
“Y/N,” he murmured, making your head shot up at hearing your name instead of your alias. “It’s possible that the last time we talked face to face about your mission, I came across a little…uncaring. I want you to know that it’s not easy for me either.”
You stared at him, completely dumbfounded.
“You’re like a daughter to me,” he said, “For me, putting you on this mission was no different than sending Chloe into Barnes’s bed. Granted you have an edge and proper training for field missions like these unlike her, but…”
Right. Manipulation of Enemy.
A.k.a the seduction class.
Your superior had almost failed you in that class.
“But all your superiors in the division is aware of your success so far,” he said, “There has been no hiccups, nothing to alert him which is a surprise. You’re playing your role well, and we will keep that in mind after this mission is over. You’re at the top of our list for possible handlers.”
For the first time in your life, that didn’t make you fill with excitement for some reason. You frowned at yourself and plastered a smile on your face.
“Thank you sir.”
“Anything you would like to report so far?”
“I’m going slowly in order to make sure I gain his trust,” you said, “But sir, there’s a reason why I didn’t even wear my earpiece tonight. Barnes is a pro, anything could make him suspicious and putting agents in cars to listen to us… That could go wrong.”
“You want to be completely alone on this mission?”
“I still want to have my team, but I want them to be completely invisible. I already have a tracker and an emergency signal on my wristwatch, but unless I specifically call for them, they need to be away. I can’t risk anyone compromising my cover, even if it’s unintentional by my team.”
He thought for a moment, “I see,” he said, “You make a good point. I’ll make the necessary adjustments.”
“Thank you General.”
He squeezed your upper arm as if trying to assure you and walked to the door, then turned around.
“Shrike?”
“Yes sir?”
“You’ve heard what happened to Marco, right?” he asked, “He was one of our best agents but got too involved in his seduction mission.”
You swallowed thickly, “I heard he’s missing.”
A small smile pulled at his lips, “That’s right. He was removed from his mission, then went missing.”
Killed.
He was killed by the agency when he fell for his target and both of you knew that.
“That’s unfortunate,” you managed to say and he nodded.
“It is,” he said, “Don’t make the same mistake. Actions have consequences.”
With that, he left your apartment and you let out a breath as you fell back to sit on the couch, your hands shaking.
“Yeah,” you muttered to yourself, “Yeah they do.”

I’ve missed doing a series of scattered Star Wars thoughts, so I’m going to try bringing those back! - I’m curious about the timeline Lucasfilm is doing, because here’s what Lucasfilm has said: 57 BBY - Obi-Wan Kenobi is born 44 BBY - Obi-Wan becomes Qui-Gon’s apprentice at age 13 42 BBY - Dooku leaves the Jedi Order, when Obi-Wan is 15 42 BBY - Obi-Wan is 15 when he spends that year on the run with Satine 40 BBY - Master & Apprentice is set during this year, when Obi-Wan is 17 So Padawan is going to be pre-M&A (40 BBY), but post-Dooku leaving (42 BBY), which means the book has to be placed when Obi-Wan is 15 or older and the author confirmed on Twitter that the Mandalore mission had not happened yet. Which means either they’re retconning Obi-Wan’s age for the year on the run (despite that the reference book came out almost exactly a year ago, it’s from Star Wars: Fascinating Facts) or this mission has to be reeeeeeally close to that. To be fair, what the reference book says is, "Age 15: Obi-Wan and his master Qui-Gon attend to young Duchess Satine Kryze on Mandalore.” which means the mission may have started when Obi-Wan was 15 and gone through when he was 16 (assuming that “attend to Satine” is what leads to the year on the run, which I think is a reasonable assumption), so I guess that works out. Though, what the author said on Twitter is, “PADAWAN takes place pre-Master and Apprentice, and thus also pre-Mandalore/Satine.” and that’s ???? about the whole thing with Obi-Wan being 15 at the time, unless they’re going for, “Obi-Wan MET Satine at 15, but it wasn’t until he was 17-18 that they went on the run with her”, but the author says she wasn’t aware of that fact, so like.  Either the story group has just given the fuck up or I DON’T EVEN KNOW. - Still not wild about “free from the constraints of the Order“, because even if you go with the idea of Obi-Wan having a strong rebellious streak (and I’m not opposed), he is a character who comes to genuinely believe in the Jedi Order, everything of his character in the movies and TV series says, while they’re not perfect (and they shouldn’t be!), but that he genuinely believes in the Jedi Order, like, even after the genocide of the Jedi, he still believes in the Jedi and the Jedi principles, all the way through each movie in the OT. - I’m also kind of side-eyeing “Brotherhood”, because “a conflicted Padawan” and Obi-Wan “becoming a parent before he was ready” (all the usual “traditional western family dynamics good, any other family dynamic bad” crap that makes me side-eye people) and because I’m always wary of people blaming the Jedi’s decision to not fight the draft into becoming generals, when the other options were even shittier and real people’s lives were on the line. I love when characters’ trauma is explored (as the author says will be part of this book), but not if it’s going to be “the Jedi don’t know how to deal with trauma” when a ton of their teachings are literally mirrors of therapeutic techniques. idk, I’m just really wary of any Obi-Wan book point of view stories, after the last two we got were such disappointments and so bad in some places (still laughing at the idea that Obi-Wan Kenobi would never GASP drink alcohol, please, I am begging you to actually watch the movies). - I am making progress on The High Republic!  I’m 3/4ths of the way through Race to Crashpoint Tower, which was really nice for a conversation about attachment, but is otherwise not really catching me.  Part of the problem is that it’s trying to dump too many new characters onto me and I can barely keep their names straight, much less become emotionally invested, but part of it is that it’s just a very young read.  It sails along very nicely, but I’m not sure it’ll ever reach the heights that The Light of the Jedi or The Rising Storm did. Is anyone else caught up?  I’m eager to get to the Tempest Runner drama and I’ve not heard anything about Out of the Shadows, who’s gotten through either of them? - I’m curious about that Luke & Lando book, it’s been a long minute since we got any post-OT content (and, for all that I’m wary of the author these days, I did really enjoy the Aftermath books) and it looks like they’re going to canonize that Jannah is Lando’s daughter.  And Rey’s going to be in it, at least in a very peripheral way?  I’M READY FOR IT. - Stories of Jedi and Sith says it’s going to be all new stories and Disney’s site lists the characters as:  ey, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Anakin Skywalker, Asajj Ventress, Emperor Palpatine, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Darth Maul, Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Vader, and Barriss Offee. So, hmm, that’ll be interesting, and I’m curious to see what the book does with Asajj!  Her story was one of the best of the TCW anthology and it’s made me hungry for more stories from her pov.  But if the Barriss story is just there to bash the Jedi or Luminara IT WILL BE PISTOLS AT DAWN.  Ditto Qui-Gon’s story.

Crossed Oceans of Time
Tumblr media
Pairing: Bucky x reader
Summary: Y/n always thought her hope was lost till an unexpected call from an old friend has her traveling across time to save the man she thought was once lost in an ocean of time.
Warnings: angst, fluffy fluff, cursing, hopelessness (idk why I make the reader so depressed)
Word Count: 4122
A/N: This is written for @sweeterthanthis Quote Me On It 6k Challenge. The prompt I chose was “I have crossed oceans of time to find you.” -Dracula. This story takes place during the events of End Game. I have incorporated the quote into the story. It will be bolded AND italicized. All mistakes are mine.
Enjoy!
Everything I had seen had been a blur up to this point. My life flashed by so quick I never had a chance to process it all. Originally born in 1922, I never believed I would be able to see the day when technology would thrive. Here I am in 2023, 101 years later seeing the miracle of technology.
I am a super soldier. One of the first experiments before Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. I volunteered myself to Dr. Erskine's experimentation, so he could develop a better, more safe serum.
I fought by Rogers' side in many battles, including the one that would take his best friend. There is something you do not know though, of me and Sergeant Barnes.
I had fallen for him. Not just a usual school girl crush, no. It was full blown love. Like my body had been struck by lightning the moment I laid eyes on him.
I could sit and talk for hours about Bucky, and how much he meant to me, but that would be pointless. Bucky was gone and yet I couldn't move on. Something was keeping my heart from finding love again.
Steve and I fought one last time together to defeat Red Skull. We thought it was the end for us, that we would be with Bucky again, but fate is a cruel mother thing. Oddly enough, the serum in our veins stopped our bodies from dying. It preserved us and helped us stay alive.
When I woke up, all I remembered was crashing the ship. I had no recollection of anything else after. That's when we found out we were in the year 2012. For 70 years we were on ice. Poor Steve was heartbroken about Peggy, and I couldn't help but wish I was with Bucky.
Time flew by like it was nothing, and all I felt I did was stand still and watch it go by. Steve and I had parted ways after we got back. I was hired to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. which I didn’t mind till in 2014 it all came crashing down. Almost quite literally. S.H.I.E.L.D. had HYDRA growing right under its nose. I was again left alone with nothing but a shattered heart.
Nick Fury tried to help me get back onto my feet but I wanted nothing to do with him, or anyone anymore. I was too heartbroken to even think about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I really just wanted my Bucky back. That’s all I could ever ask of the world.
Five years ago, something happened. I felt like my life had fallen apart again. All the friends I had attempted to make, all disappeared. I wasn’t the only one who lost people they loved and cared for. I finally felt maybe other people out there were feeling the same way I did.
Here in 2023, I have been without the love of my life for almost 80 years. I kept asking why I got to live while he was taken from the world so soon. I never got the answer to that rhetorical question, asked to no one in particular. That was till I got a peculiar call from an unknown number. I answered it hoping it would be the reaper I hoped to be greeted by to take me to the love of my life.
“Y/n?” It was a voice I hadn’t heard in almost a decade. One I thought I’d probably never hear again either.
“Steve.” I sounded cheery for once since I had been out of the ice.
“Hey. How are you doing? I know it’s been years since we talked, but I wanted to see if you wanted to go for a drive? Just you and me.” He asked, and I could tell he was smiling some on the other end.
“That sounds lovely, Steve. I’ve been hanging in there. Since S.H.I.E.L.D. and the whole HYDRA thing, I’ve just been laying low.”
“Where are you living now?” Steve queried.
“I’m living in Brooklyn actually. In my old neighborhood.
“You used to live in Brooklyn before the war?”
“Yep. I actually lived above the antique shop. You know the one.”
“Yeah. I didn’t know we lived so close, yet we never met you till Erskine introduced us.”
“Yeah. Maybe then I wouldn’t feel the way I do now…” I sounded melancholy.
“I’m not too far from where you are. Meet where the antique shop used to be. We can talk more then, I have something I think you would love to hear.”
“Okay. I’ll meet you there.” I said, and hung up quickly. I knew there was nothing he could have told me that would make me jump for joy. He couldn’t say anything that would make my smile come back. It was gone, and faded with time.
I met him where that antique shop used to be, and I could almost picture it all. The cobblestone streets, the kids playing baseball, the world used to be a different place back then. It’s not like it was anymore, and I wish that it kind of was.
“Hey.” Steve smiled, walking up to me.
“Hi.” I gave a small smile, but he could tell I had sadness written all over my face.
“What’s wrong?” Concern spread across his face.
“Nothing. This is just how I smile now.”
“Whoever took away your beautiful, contagious smile is going to pay.”
“Time took my smile away.”
“”Come on. I want to talk to you about something.” His smile grew wider as he led me to his car.
He opened the door for me, and I climbed in. I buckled up as he climbed into the driver’s seat. We headed out of the city, down the countryside. The scenery was beautiful, but I still couldn’t bring myself to start a conversation.
“Hey, are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m fine. I have been for 11 years. What’s 40 more gonna do right?” I gave an extremely sad smile.
“Is this about Bucky?”
“There were so many times in my life where we could have met. Maybe just a year longer with him, and I would be able to move on, or maybe not. I was in love with him, Steve. The way I felt the night we first met, it was like everything in my life finally made sense. I felt like I had a purpose.”
“He’s actually the reason I wanted to talk to you.”
“What do you mean?”
“He was alive. I need your help getting him back.”
“What do you mean? That’s impossible. We both watched him die.”
“Remember when all those men were captured from the 107th, including Bucky, back in ‘43?”
“Yeah, and we went to rescue them.”
“Bucky was experimented on by Armin Zola. Turned into a super soldier himself.”
“Okay and?”
“Whatever Zola did to him, it helped him survive the fall.”
“So what I’m understanding is, you knew he was alive this entire time, and you’re just now telling me about it?”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but I need your help getting him back now.”
“Okay. You keep saying that, but if he is alive, why would we need to get him back?”
“Remember 5 years ago when half the earth’s population just vanished?”
“Yeah?”
“Bucky was part of that half.”
“And you think we can get him back?”
“I think we can bring back all the life lost 5 years ago. It requires us going back in time though.”
“Time travel? You’re promising time travel in a time where we thought flying cars were going to be a thing.”
“It’s possible though. We’ve tested it, and everything is up and working. We have all the dates in order, we just need the man power.”
“Alright, if it means bringing Bucky back, I’ll do it.”
“Thank you.”
Steve drove us to a huge building practically in the middle of nowhere. There I was greeted by a group of people, one of which I recognized from a brief meeting years ago. The others I didn’t know. I mean one man looked oddly familiar, but I could quite put my finger on where I had seen him before.
“Everyone, this is Y/n. She is an old friend of mine.” Steve introduced me.
“I may be old, but I sure don’t feel like it.”
“Join the club.” Steve chuckled.
“I’m Natasha. We met briefly in D.C. a few years back.” The woman I had recognized approached.
“Yes, I remember you. It’s nice to officially meet you on slightly good terms. While not being utterly terrified by a man with a metal arm.” I smiled slightly, trying to imagine how it would feel to see Bucky once more.
“So how do you two know each other?” The man that I swore looked familiar, spoke up.
“Steve and I fought together during the war.”
“Does that mean she also knew Barnes?” The man questioned.
“Yes. She did. In fact they were together for two years before HYDRA took him.”
“How does he know about Bucky?” I asked, growing concerned.
“It’s a long story.”
“I’m Tony Stark by the way.” The man spoke up, and everything was now coming together.
“I knew you looked familiar to me somehow. You look just like your father.”
“Yeah, well, join the club with everyone who says that.” Tony sounded irritated.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“Y/n, it’s alright.” Steve spoke up before Tony could say anything.
He could probably tell I was freaking out. My goal was to help, not make things worse. I could tell by just opening my mouth, I was doing just that. Steve started to rub my back to calm me down.
“Is everything okay?” Natasha asked.
“She’s been through a lot. She didn’t even know Bucky was alive until a couple hours ago.” Steve replied.
“For so long I wished that something would happen so I could be back in his arms again. Now, I have a chance to see him again, and not in the afterlife. He is the man of my dreams, the love of my life. I have never felt this way about anyone before, and the fact that I have tried to move on, but couldn't just shows that I truly did love him.”
“Does she know about him?” Tony asked.
“Not about that. She doesn’t need to know.” Steve stated sternly.
“Know about what? Steve? What aren’t you telling me?”
“Stark, I agree with Steve. If she knew about him, her opinion of him may change.” Natasha interjected.
“She deserves to know the man she loved then will not be the man she is getting back.”
“What are you all going on about?”
“Barnes was the man with the metal arm you spoke of.” Tony blurted out.
“You’re wrong. Bucky would never hurt anyone. He was someone who put others before himself. He would never kill anyone.”
Steve just gave an angry look to Tony. I didn’t know who to believe. Natasha just gave me an apologetic look. I couldn’t read anyone, they all seemed to look angry or apologetic, and I didn;t know who to believe.
“Maybe the Barnes you knew wouldn’t, but over 70+ years, people change.” Tony stated before walking inside.
“Steve? Was Bucky really the man with the metal arm? If he was, I want to know. It wont change how I feel. I just need to know, so I can help him when he comes back.”
“Yes. He was what the world knew as the Winter Soldier. He isn;t like that anymore. I promise, but he is broken and traumatized from what HYDRA did to him.”
“Understandable. Now let’s go get him and everyone else back.” I smiled, and walked inside. I didn’t have to fake one anymore. I was just happy that I finally had the chance to see Bucky again. That maybe seeing each other again could mend our souls a little bit.
Steve led me to a room where he told me to suit up. I threw on the suit laid out for me, and met the others on the main level. Steve handed me two little vials which he told me would help take me where I needed to be. He told me I was to stay with him to make sure nothing happened to me. I was perfectly okay with that.
We were all ready to find these stones. Steve showed me a picture of the stones him, Tony, Scott, and I were to be getting. I just wanted to get this over with, to be with Bucky once more. I have waited a long time for this moment, and I just couldn’t wait any longer.
“Everyone ready?” Bruce asked.
“See you guys in a minute.” Natasha smiled.
We all shrunk down, and our groups went separate ways. I made sure to not lose sight of Steve as we landed in our desired time. We all started walking the tattered streets of New York City, and I knew where we had landed.
“Banner, you find the time stone, Stark and Lang, you two get the tesseract. I’ll get the scepter.” Steve directed.
“What about me?” I asked, curious what my task would be.
“You are staying right here. We’ll all meet right back here once we have secured our items.”
“Why am I here then if you don’t need me?”
“In case things go south.”
I roll my eyes, “fine. I’ll stay here.”
“Thank you.”
They all walk off, and I stay put where they told me to. I listen to them talking on comms to each other. They were pretty entertaining if I was being honest. That was until they started saying they lost the tesseract. Things looked hopeless now.
“What are we gonna do now? The tesseract is gone, and we don’t have any more of the capsules.” Scott paced.
“I have an extra capsule that will get me where I want to be. Please let me do this Steve?”
“Fine. I think I have an idea where you might be going. Just be careful okay?” He hands me something, “put it in here when you grab it.”
“I will. I promise I’ll be careful. I’ll see you guys when I have aquired the tesseract.” I smile.
I plug in the time and date that I wanted, and shrunk down traveling back to January 1945. The day Steve and I put the plane in the water. I remember seeing Red Skull holding it that day, right before he disappeared actually. Maybe that’s what Steve meant by ‘be careful’.
I headed straight to the hanger, and climbed inside. I hid until I knew it was safe to come out. Which meant waiting till Red Skull took off. I waited for Steve, and I to start fighting Red Skull. I came out and prepared to grab the tesseract. I had the special case Steve handed me before I left.
When Red Skull disappeared, and Steve and I went to man the ship, I grabbed the tesseract. I plugged in the date to head back, and shrunk down again, heading back to the correct timeline. I arrived as everyone else returned as well. I looked around to make sure everyone was there, but one person was missing.
“Clint, where’s Nat?” Bruce asked, looking at Clint.
“Barton, where is she?” Tony asked, being more stern.
“She’s gone...it should have been me.” He sounded so sad. I felt for him. I knew how it felt to lose someone I cared so much about.
They all gathered by the water mourning Natasha’s sacrifice. I let them have their moment. It wasn’t my place to be with them while they grieved. It just didn’t seem right, or fair to them. I sat in the lab waiting for them to come back, and assemble the gauntlet.
Steve walked in and sat next to me, “how did it go?”
“It went well. It was weird seeing Red Skull and you, and me. I think I managed well though. Why did you give me an extra capsule?”
“I figured you would go and help us, then I’d let you go and be with Bucky. Get the time you lost back.”
“That makes no sense if I lose him in the end anyways.”
“Maybe part of me hoped you would change his fate. That way you never lost him. You would never have to know what it was like to lose him.”
“That’s really sweet of you Steve, but I don’t think that would be right. For me or him.”
“I understand. I just want you to know that your pain hasn’t gone unnoticed.”
“I’m glad it hasn’t, but I really wish you knew how much I needed you too. I didn’t just miss Bucky, you were my friend too.”
“I know, but you haven’t been the same since you thought he died. You have been more closed off, you don’t smile, or laugh like you used to. I just want you to be happy again. I want to see that beautiful smile, and hear your contagious laugh once more.”
“You will again one day. Right now though, you need to help the others make this gauntlet.” I gave a half smile before moving out of the way so the others could do their job.
I sat outside with my eyes closed. Just waiting for someone to walk up to me and make sure I was okay. The light from the sun was dimmed like a shadow moved in front of me. I smiled before opening my eyes, thinking that Steve, or maybe Bucky, was standing in front of me. When I looked, I saw something that looked like a meteor heading right for the building.
I tried to run inside, but it was too late. The ball, or cannon, or whatever had already hit the building. I wiggle my way out from under the debris, but I could tell I had a pretty severe wound on my abdomen. I tried to call out to someone, but I got no response. I hoped that everyone was alright.
I finally was able to stand up, and walked outside. There I saw Thor standing, and watching someone. I walked over to him, putting pressure on my side to make sure I stopped the bleeding. That’s when I saw Steve walking up to him too.
“What’s he doing?” Steve asked, looking where Thor was looking.
“He’s just sitting there.” Thor responded. “He doesn’t have the gauntlet right?”
“Not that I can see.”
“Let’s keep it that way.” Steve said, walking over to me.
“Who is that guy?” I asked, looking confused.
“That’s Thanos. He’s the reason half the earth’s population disappeared 5 years ago.”
“Did he figure out what we were planning?”
“It’s not the same Thanos. The one from our time, Thor killed him.” Steve said, walking over to him.
“I used to think that destroying half the planet's life would be good enough, but the other half that stuck around seems to be ungrateful. Looks like I may have to destroy this world, and create a new one, one that will be grateful for the world I have provided.”
That’s when Thor charged at Thanos, and the fight began. Tried to fight as much as I could, but I was losing more and more blood every second. I ran at him, thinking he was going to hurt Steve, but he stopped me and threw me against some rubble. I attempted to get up, but the pain was too much to fight anymore.
I watched as Steve prepared to fight by himself. I wish I had the strength to stand up and fight next to him. I just couldn’t bear the pain anymore. That’s when I heard a voice over comms that sounded kind of familiar.
“Cap, can you read me. On your left.” The voice said, and these vortex-like things opened up, and out walked three people.
Steve turned to me, and saw that I was on the ground. He reached his hand out to me, and I took it, standing up. He smiled at me, and prepared to fight. That’s when armies of people walked through these vortexes. I stayed close to Steve, finding comfort in the one person I knew fairly well.
“You okay?” He asked.
“I’ll be okay. I just want this douchebag dead. He took Bucky away, and now he wants to destroy the entirety of planet earth. He deserves what’s coming to him.”
Steve smiled, “you really haven’t changed a bit. More depressed than what I remember, but your attitude is still the same.” He chuckled lightly.
I giggled, and prepared to fight to the end. I didn’t care if I died, I just wanted Steve and Bucky to live. Steve stood at the front of the army he was leading, perhaps into our last battle. I was ready to do anything. I had found my hidden strength to keep fighting till I physically couldn’t keep fighting anymore. That was quicker to come than I thought. I knew I was losing a lot of blood, but I didn’t know how quickly. Turns out when Thanos threw makeup against the rubble, I created an even bigger wound.
Only a few minutes into the now fair fight, I started to get really dizzy. I tried to grab a hold of someone before I fell, but there was no one around me. I hit the ground and I was out for the count.
~*~
I don’t know how long I had been out for, or if I was still even alive. To my surprise, and Steve’s happiness, I was.
“Hey there sweetheart.” Steve smiled, gripping my hand tightly.
“Did we win?” Of course that would be my first question. It was the first question I asked when we came out of the ice.
He chuckled, but his look turned sad, “we won, but we lost at the same time.”
“What do you mean? Did he snap them away again?” My heart was pounding in my chest. The fear painted across my face.
“No. Everyone who disappeared is back, but Tony...he snapped Thanos and his army away, but he didn’t make it.” Steve gave me an extremely sad look.
I squeezed his hand, not even paying attention to the fact someone had just walked into the room. I didn’t even notice the person till Steve looked over to them, and got up. I couldn’t quite tell who it was because where they were standing was kind of dark. That and my eyes were fully adjusted yet, but I could tell they were tall and well built, they also had semi-long hair.
“Go on. She’s been waiting.” Steve spoke up, seeing me stare at them.
The person came closer, and I was met with their mesmerizing blue eyes. I smiled at them as they came over to sit down. He seemed closed off, or just really shy. I couldn’t quite get a read on him for whatever reason.
“Hey.” He gave a very small smile, almost shy.
“Hey.” I smile more.
“I’ve missed that smile.” Steve spoke up.
I giggled, “well it’s thanks to you that I feel like I can be happy again.”
The man sitting next to me just looked down. I put my hand out for him to take. He grabbed it very gently. It was colder than I thought it would be. I looked down, and saw a metal hand. He tried to pull away, but I gripped his hand tight.
“You’re not scared?” He asked.
“Because I have crossed oceans of time to find you.” I smile wide, bringing his hand to my lips, kissing it gently.
Steve smiled, “you knew it was him the whole time didn’t you?”
“Of course. Those eyes are unforgettable, and his voice is unmistakable.” I felt the hand around mine tighten, and his smile got bigger.
“I’ve missed you doll. I’ve missed you so much.” Bucky spoke.
“I missed you too. I never thought that I would ever see you again.”
We stared lovingly at each other for a while. Enjoying just taking in the fact that he was back into my life. That I had him back. That the best thing that ever happened to me was back. It was the best feeling in the world, one that I thought I would never be able to feel again. I finally felt like my heart had been put back together, and Bucky held the mold in his hands.

It’s so funny how my mind just comes up with random things from the show that just get expanded upon infinitely until I have to get them down on paper. One of the unresolved plot points from Big Hero 6: The Series is the Cruzes.  Both Megan and Diego failed to make an appearance in Season 3.  Given that said season was simply a mish-mash of different stories with only a little of continuity between them, this made sense. It makes less sense when you remember that Chief Cruz was suppose to be the antagonist of the second half of Season 2.
Megan’s absence from the list of possible replacements for Honey Lemon, Go Go, and Wasabi in “HPPPT” is even more bizzare, since she literally helped Hiro in “Legacies” and proved herself to be at least competent with the ninja suit.
Those are all finer details that I’m sure I’ll talk about in future posts, but right now...I want to go back even further in the past. We know about Diego’s past with superheroes; his father was killed after a night out, and Boss Awesome was too late to save his life.  We also know at some point, he moved out of the city and then an unknown amount of time later, he came back with Megan. The problem is...we don’t have any idea just how much time passed between those two events.
Tumblr media
We know that Cass and Diego knew each other back then, and we can also assume that it was probably during their younger years.  In “Fred The Fugitive”, while on their date friend excursion, they reminisce a little bit: Cass:  Who wants small plates?  Remember Joe’s?  The plates were big and the waiters didn’t hate you. Diego:  *laughing*  I used to love going there...’til we moved. Cass:  Well, you never told me why you moved away. Diego:  Yeah, I don’t talk about it much.  Uhh...what happened was- And then the conversation gets interrupted by Fred’s shenanigans and the officers chasing him.
A couple of things to take from this conversation.  One...Joe’s is apparently the happenin‘ place to be for kids these days. ...Sorry.  The old man in me broke through. Second, you can tell that Cass and Diego were at least close enough to hang out with each other.  Maybe they went to school together or something like that.  That was probably where Diego got his crush on her.
Yeah, it’s kind of obvious. But putting that aside, shouldn’t Cass...know the reason why he moved away?  Was it not the death of his dad that was the reason?
Unless that wasn’t the reason. Remember in “Something’s Fishy” at the very beginning of the episode when Cass is talking to Hiro about Megan?
Tumblr media
Cass:  Well, hit pause because I have some very exciting news.  I ran into an old friend who just moved back to San Fransokyo...and *pause because Fred invisible shenanigans* he has a daughter named Megan, and she’s the same age as you! We can assume from this that Diego moved away more than 14 years ago, because Cass’s tone and dialogue makes me believe that Megan was not around (or born, or perhaps even a thought at that point) when Diego left.  It’s hard to narrow down an approximate timeline because we’re not even given ages of Cass and Diego.  I’ve always assumed they were in their mid 40s, but that still wouldn’t mean anything if we’re not given any references to when he left. Another quick note is Diego’s use of the word “we”.  “We moved.”  And then Cass follows that up with “you moved”. Now perhaps Diego is referring to his family, which we can reasonably assume would be he and his mom.  Never mind the fact that his mom never gets mentioned whatsoever. But of course, when have I ever reasonably assumed anything? And this is where the wild theorizing part of me comes in. What if the reason that Diego moved away...was Megan? From Megan’s appearances in the show, she doesn’t appear to have any attachment to the city either.  The only reason she seems to gravitate to Joe’s Diner is because of Diego. And notice how there is a missing player in this whole thing:  Megan’s mom. Who is Megan’s mom? She doesn’t get mentioned at all.  What is with Cruzes and their moms not being mentioned?
Anyway, that’s a mystery that I’ve been trying to solve in the course of my stories.  Megan herself is getting invested in trying to find out who it is, because even she doesn’t know. Wonder whether that will ever show up again. Maybe in my dreams at 2 in the morning when I’m suppose to be sleeping.

i am genuinely curious how u can be radfem without being anti trans
I mean pretty easily? Radical feminism has some core tenets, like being against the sex trade, recognizing institutional sexism, being critical of things like kink and heterosexual power structures, and so on and so forth. In any instance it's critical to recognize that sex is an axis of oppression and those who are born and raised female will face that oppression no matter what in a patriarchal society.
That being said though, I'm not of the mind that transness relies solely on "sexist stereotypes" of men or women. I feel like in these (as in radfem) communities it's easy to be exposed to the absurd neoliberal ideologues concerning gender and be blackpilled into being against the trans community because at that point it's hard not to perceive the greater trans community as anything but the TRA caricatures that you inevitably have to debate with on any hellsite.
The thing is though, prior to those neolib types of people popping up within the last 10 years, we still had people transitioning to help with their dysphoria, and it's no secret that there were plenty of people who that did aid. Dysphoria is also something that goes much deeper than these "feminine = woman and masculine = man, except when it doesn't and that's also fine none of this is definable" sorts of takes that are prevalent in certain subsets of trans communities now. When I've tried to discuss in depth this subject with a TERF (as in explicitly anti-trans), the solution for dysphoria is always a non-solution, and that doesn't sit well with me. "They can go to therapy and find healthier ways to cope!" okay but many have done that a d it doesn't work, so now what do you propose? And that's never met with a direct answer.
In short, I think that trans people are real, often valid, and I understand that not everyone can transition medically. I see nb people as valid in their own right but not necessarily trans (although sometimes too). I think a lot of these topics need more nuance than either "side" is willing to give. I think it's absurd to be against transition for those who are struggling while not even being able to offer a better or proper alternative. But I also think it's absurd to say that transness is a choice or expression rather than something innate, because how could that be an axis of oppression then? I think it's a problem to obscure "woman" into something undefinable while it still exists as an axis of oppression as well. I feel that having the definition being based on femaleness frees women of many expectations and all of societal gendering, but I also have no issue including those who are struggling and transitioning as well. Radical feminists that I interacted with 10 years ago largely held the same sorts of opinions (well, not concerning nb identities bc most hadn't been exposed to that yet), but have shifted dramatically in the past several years. Many will admit it now too, I just reject it still. Also it's more common to be pro-trans or pro-nb amongst gen z rads. I know several who use pronouns that aren't she/her predominantly but are still radfems. They'll call themselves like, "transmasc woman" or just "dysphoric woman" bc they recognize and identify a tie to transness but also recognize that class structures are based on the way oppressors class them, not determined by them themselves, so they also refer to themselves as women. I think it's a more ideal model that anything we've used either 40 years ago or 4 years ago.
Anyway I've sort of rambled about nothing because I'm actively working while typing this, and I'm fairly certain that I've not worded a lot of this correctly too, so feel free to ask for clarity/elaboration on things or further discussion in general

A/N:  Inspired by the novels of Nicholas Sparks. Sorry for my spelling and grammatical mistakes, English is not my native language, I am learning.

When was the moment when you stopped looking at life with those eyes of innocence and became a woman? During the summer of 1942 many events took place in your life, creating a before and after in your free spirit, but it was not until much later, when you read those words in that letter that you realised that you had changed and were never going to meet again that laughing young girl who saw the world bathed in colour.
But to understand your story, the story of Emily Lawton, you have to understand the way your childhood years were. You were born on October 16, 1924 into a wealthy family in the town of Greenville, your father, Mr. Lawton, owned one of the largest tobacco companies in the region, and was extremely popular with the crowds, regardless of their social status, as his business generated a great demand for employment, which was a welcome development in these times. On the other hand, your mother was more socially aware, she liked decorating and was a much-loved member of the Greenville ladies’ club, which used to do a lot of charity work for the underprivileged. However, all this didn’t capture your attention at all, perhaps because you had grown up in both circles, and therefore your curiosity was lessened.
Your parents had taken it upon themselves to provide you with the best education possible, and thus had faith that you would be able to enter one of the best universities in the county and possibly the country at the age of 18, a fact that on the one hand pleased you, because it would mean leaving their side and starting to see the world through your own eyes, but at the same time irritated you, because your mother still intended to plan your whole life. For you, life was not meant to be planned, things came at the right time, without waiting for them, but it was clear that such an imaginative vision did not belong to a woman, as your mother used to remind you, but to a girl, something you would learn in time.
You used to spend long evenings attending social events hand in hand with your parents, which at times could seem a bit presumptuous, especially when in 1939 the war began on the European continent, but you could hardly notice it because of the bubble in which that society lived, but as the years went by and the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, the lives of all Americans were cut short, on several levels. Your 17-year-old mind still held the innocence and naivety, which you tried to hide with your chatter, your mischievous smiles and your laughter, but all you did was to show it even more. A young man, a William Craig, from a family of bankers, asked for your hand in marriage in the spring of ‘42, just before he was due to join the army and leave for the Primary Training Centre where he was to be trained as a private, but although it almost broke your heart to refuse him, for your future plans were far removed from any romance, you did.
It’s not that you weren’t romantic, nor had you flirted with the occasional young man - on the contrary, you loved it, you used to - but you had love so idealised that the distance between flirting and loving someone were complete opposites. Although that used to confuse young people, because your candid facade attracted them to the point of believing that you were madly in love with them and that you wanted to marry them, a confusion that became more extreme when you quickly lost interest in them.
Now, let’s talk about that summer of 1942. There was a moment in your life when you thought you were the luckiest person in the universe. You held the window down on that Willys Americar Sedan, sticking your face out of it, causing the summer wind to blow subtly against your eyelids and the curly locks of your brown hair to flutter freely. Your eyes watched as the setting sun broke through the treetops, letting in the last rays of sunlight of that first Sunday in June. The drive was shared with several flocks of sparrows that began their flight as the car’s engine invaded their quiet, while on the horizon, the Kiawah River showed its presence, informing you how close the end of the drive was.
You found that you enjoyed breathing in the peace of Wadmalaw Island, quite contrary to the effusiveness of Greenville, where you and your parents used to reside for the rest of the year. The last time you set foot on that land you were only 13 years old and your youth was just beginning to blossom, but now you had returned at the age of 17. Before leaving a residence you had thought about how you wanted that summer to be, your last summer before going to university, your imagination had recreated numerous scenes and events that could happen, but what was clear to you was that you wanted to enjoy it, the world was going down the drain and before yours went too you needed to live it.
You barely remembered how comforting it was to look out over the landscape, for it had been five years since your family, the Lawtons, had summered on the coast. In the old days it was traditional for you to set out for the southeastern part of South Carolina in June, arriving in the vicinity of the small town of Rockville, established in 1784 and only a few miles from Charleston. Its scenery was magnificent, you used to describe it as “a canvas of the natural landscape of Southern life”, which you would contemplate for the rest of your life.
But owing to the outbreak of the war and some setbacks in your father’s business, your presence was required during all the summers, yet things turned out most favourably, as your father used to report at dinner parties, for tobacco, it seemed, was the greatest leisure that soldiers could be offered at the front. Unlike your father, or your father, you had no interest in the family business, you thought it was devoid of art and colour, too banal for your taste, in short, dull, and you used to shy away from anything dull, you used to keep looking at life from a romantic perspective, still with a girl’s eyes, even if you thought you were a woman.
The journey took shape, the green landscapes gave way to a set of paved streets and an unusual urban movement, a few meters ago a sign provided at the side of the road had informed you of the beginning of the town of Rockville, but you hardly remembered that this town of a little more than a hundred inhabitants had so much movement.
“Why,” you said, peering curiously through the window, “you didn’t know that Rockville was now the new Charleston.”
“Looks like it,” whispered your mother, looking out her window. “Oh, I think it’s the county fair.”
“Looks like everyone’s having a good time,” you commented, resting your chin on your hands as you watched small groups of young people laughing. “Connie’s probably around here somewhere, if the Dawsons are here yet.”
“I spoke to Mr Dawson just yesterday,” your father looked at you through the rear-view mirror.
“Well?” you were genuinely interested in his answer.
“They arrived Saturday night,” he reported, “apparently his wife wanted to visit Charleston and so they moved up the trip.”
You nodded, Connie was one of your childhood friends, back in the day the Dawsons bought a property near yours in Rockville to enjoy summers together, unlike you, the Dawson family hadn’t missed a single summer. Connie was an incentive to enjoy those three months, she knew how to have fun, she offered that rebellious imaginative edge that you both shared within your allowed limits, so you looked forward to meeting her again to begin your new adventures.
You continued looking through your rolled down window, leaning your head on your arms that were supported by the car door, on the left side there was a sort of enclosure lined with wooden fences, in which numerous booths offered the best pastimes for those people who were there to forget everything that was happening around them. Your gaze was distracted, analysing the fairground, watching how people entered and left with ice creams and sweets in their hands, perhaps you expected to spot someone you knew, but it was not like that, evidently you did not know anyone there, however blue eyes rested on your face. A young man, of an age correlative to yours, was watching you leaning on one of the wooden fences, the car had stopped at a pedestrian crossing and the boy was delighting in the view he had of you.
On several occasions you had been the centre of attention at the social events you used to attend in Greenville, many boys had laid their eyes on you, but never in such a daring way as that young man was doing. If it had happened any other way you would have offered him a smile, and if you had liked the young man you would have moved with the wind to find out in the most subtle way who he was, but when you saw that he was being so brazen you turned your face away and rolled up the window.
The drive continued and the town of Rockville was left behind to take you back into the beauty of the countryside. White picket fences opened the way to a wide road backed by magnificent oak trees on either side. At the end of it was Lawton Plantation waiting to welcome its owners. The surroundings had not changed at all, but a sense of longing came over you. You were about to venture into your last summer before your departure for university and you felt that things were about to take a new turn. However, as you gazed at the porch surrounding the colonial-style house in the distance, your thoughts returned to their usual bliss. The house had known its heyday during the 19th century, being one of the highest-yielding cotton plantations in South Carolina. It had been built in 1790, sitting on over four thousand acres of riverfront land, but over the years its history had been left to memories, especially yours, for you wondered if the previous owners of the house had also marvelled at its surroundings.
The instant the car stopped, the back door opened, letting your excitement run free. It took you barely a minute to reach the inside of the property, offering a quick greeting to Mr. and Mrs. Fulton, the keepers of the house in your absence, and discovering that your belongings were still in place, surrounded by that peculiar scent of wood. You used to have two favourite places in that house. The first was a small room dedicated to painting, located on the main floor and which had a private exit to the porch through a glass door. That corner was equipped with all the necessary material to be able to escape from your thoughts and express every feeling and emotion inside. It was your father, with whom in some respects you shared similar tastes, who, on discovering at the age of 11 your interest in art, decided to encourage your fascination by creating that room for you. On the other hand, the second favourite place was the stables, or horse stables, which were the gateway to a new universe for you, which would allow you to enjoy those places hand in hand with your beloved Savannah, your mare, who had arrived a week before you.
That first day was not much more than rediscovering every corner of that property, rediscovering your old self from five years ago, reminiscing about remote times and preparing yourself for what was to come and what you would begin to experience the next day.

Izuku Midoriya x Reader
Word count: 2400

(Quirkless AU)
Tumblr media
The fluffy haired boy had finally worked up the courage to ask you out, although he didn't tell you where you two would be going. He was so flustered when he asked you. His face was so red it looked like he was going to explode. He mixed up quite a few words too. Of course, you couldn't say no to those precious little eyes of his. If it wasn't for how bad you felt for him then you probably would've said no. You barely even knew him, but you knew it took him a lot of confidence to ask you out. Most of your friends had picked on you for saying yes.
Izuku was pretty shy and most definitely a nerd. His hair always looked like he just rolled out of bed. And, well, his fashion choices were.... okay. A couple people would pick on him sometimes, but not too often. You could tell he was pretty smart, but most of the time he seemed kinda awkward. As expected your friends would prefer you to go out with a popular boy that's on varsity teams and always pays attention to his looks. You would probably prefer that too, but you didn't want to hurt the little green haired boys feelings. You knew he was a pretty delicate boy.
A couple months ago your boyfriend had broken up with you. He had brown fluffy hair that always looked perfect and shining blue eyes. He was on the varsity football team of course too, his dad was the coach. He was nothing but perfect to you... well at least you thought. Your friend had set the two of you up at a football game several months ago in the fall. You liked him a lot especially because of how most girls were jealous you were dating him. It made you feel above everyone else. He was pretty nice but sometimes he would pick on other kids. Not harshly though. A couple months ago he had started to slowly ignore you. You took the hint and you haven't talked since. He found another girl. She was about 5'7 with beautiful long caramel hair. She had perfect skin and her body's curves were sure to make any boy swoon. Every time she walked past you could smell the sweet sent of expensive perfumes. She was any boys dream girl. The way he had just forgotten about you left a gaping hole in your heart. You're still not over him. His name just makes your stomach swirl in sickness.
Izuku Midoriya is smart enough not to go for bitchy popular girls, but he knew you were different. You were much nicer than the rest of them and he could tell you especially hated it when they picked on people like him. Sometimes it made you giggle though, which you felt wrong for doing. You didn't really act as cocky or stuck up as the rest of them either which confused him. He thought you were just absolutely stunning with that luscious h/c hair and those bright e/c eyes. During class he would always study your features in awe. He felt as if you were almost trapped in the world of popularity. He knew he could never get with someone that's friends with the populars, but he couldn't help but try.
It was a Saturday night and for the past half hour you had been working on getting ready. You were dressed in a comfy crew neck and a light colored skirt. You only had light makeup on, just some lipgloss and mascara, you didn't really need to impress the boy too much. You and your friends group chat was blowing up that night, they wouldn't stop teasing you about your little date. You ignored the messages, it annoyed you how petty they were sometimes, although you could agree with most of the things they were saying. You were startled as you heard a quiet knock on your front door.
"Sweetie! I think your somebody might be at the door!!!" Your mom said sweetly.
"Coming!" You yelled out from your room quickly finishing your mascara. You sighed and walked out of your room and to the front door. You slowly turned the door knob and opened it to the boy, as expected with his wild evergreen hair and his lazy outfit.
"Hi, y/n." He said almost shaking from nervousness.
"Hi!" You said with a smile. His cheeks were growing furiously red and he was trying his best to hide it. It made you giggle a bit.
"I'll be back Mom! Bye!!" You said as you quickly shut the door behind you.
"So, you never told me where we're going." You said trying to break the silence because you knew he was too scared to speak.
"Oh.. uh I thought we could go to one of my favorite places." He said shyly scratching the back of his neck.
"And where's that?" You asked curiously.
"It's a surprise." He said trying to hide his blushing face once again. He couldn't believe he was even talking to a girl like you.
"What's that you have?" You asked pointing to the long box in his hand. You really hoped he didn't get you a present. You already felt bad enough.
"You'll see." He said while starting to walk on the sidewalk.
"How long will it take to get there?" You questioned him.
"Only a few minutes." He said looking down at his feet.
You two silently walked along the sidewalk in the brisk night to your destination. It was pretty awkward but you dealt with it.
Finally you had arrived next to a cement wall. It didn't look too exciting. It was pretty confusing as to why he would bring you here. It looked like the outside of a dump.
"Here I'll help you over the wall." He said nervously.
"What? We're climbing that wall? I mean I don't usually scale walls on dates. You're nuts." You said sassily.
"Come on you can do it." He said trying to encourage you.
You ran up to the wall on your tip toes peering over it.
"Woah..." You said underneath your breath.
"Neat, right?" He said walking up next to you.
"What even is this place?" You said gazing over the wide field.
"It's the plane graveyard." He said trying not to sound too nerdy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Here's some pics if you don't know what a plane graveyard looks like. It's basically where they bring a bunch of old planes from wars and stuff.)
He grabbed your waist gently and helped you over the wall. He was trying so hard for his face not to turn extremely red. He then jumped over the wall after you. He led you over to one of the planes, stroking it as he walked by.
"This is the real history, not the stuff we see in those history books." He said studying the plane.
"Wait, are these real bullet holes?" You asked closely examining the holes in the metal. He smiled at you, he didn't know you would actually find this interesting.
"Yep!" He responded, walking over to the next plane.
He dragged his hand along the wing of the next plane as he walked towards it. You tried to too but you couldn't reach since you were just a bit shorter than him.
"The Navy found this one last year off the coast of Japan." He said looking at the wreckage.
"They did a corrosion study on it... after 40 years at the bottom of the ocean this is all it rusted." He said focusing on the front of the plane.
"Our grandparents sure knew how to make stuff." He admired the plane with only a few spots of rust.
"H- how do you know all of this stuff?" You asked looking up at him.
"Well, a pilot from 44, came back a few weeks ago to look at this. He stood here and looked at this thing the whole day..." He replied while taking a few steps back to take in the sight of the whole plane.
You looked at him in shock. You knew he was smart, but you didn't know he knew all of this.
"Hey! come on." He said jumping into the plane.
"A- are you sure we're allowed to do that." You said starting to get nervous.
"Yeah, nobody ever comes here anyways." He said waving you over.
You sighed and jumped into the seat next to him.
He opened the slim box he had been lugging around, only to see a small telescope.
"Here." He said handing it to you.
You gently took the telescope into your hands. You looked up into the dark night sky through it.
"Oh my god... look at all those mountains up there." You said fascinated while studying the bright full moon through the telescope.
"And valleys, canyons, and planes..." He trailed on.
"What's that thing up there that looks like a... star sapphire? What's that?" You said studying the different sections of the full moon.
"An asteroid hit there... it made a crack in the moon 100 times the size of the grand canyon." He said looking over at your precious face.
"And... on the right is the sea of tranquility. The first space ship from earth landed there. The day I was born..." He said looking back up at the sky.
"That's why you're so into astrology, right?" You said passing the telescope back to him.
"Astronomy." He corrected you softly.
"No, well up there it's just a future world..." He said looking into the telescope.
"By the time I'm my Dads age, people will be living there, and working. Maybe even us..." He continued on, placing the telescope on his lap looking back into the shining stars.
(Queue music. I would suggest listening to Eclipse by Pink Floyd right now.)
You looked over at him and gazed into his dark green eyes. You couldn't help feel fascinated by the way he explained those things. You weren't much of a person to be interested in space, but there was something about the way he stated these things. Were you falling for some nerd you barely even knew? You questioned yourself. It couldn't be. But nobody had ever done something like this before for you. It was a whole new feeling. For sure your old boyfriend would've never gone out of his way to do something like this, let alone even know anything about astronomy.
You two sat in silence for a few minutes gazing up at the thousands of stars in the late sky. You looked over at him and smiled a bit. He jumped a little when he realized you were looking at him.
"Oh, sorry." You said looking away.
"The moon, it looks different now... It's not as mysterious or romantic." You said playing with your hair.
"Well I'm sorry I ruined it for you." He said quietly looking down to his feet.
"You didn't ruin it, you just changed it, I guess..." You said staring into the big moon.
"You know... I had never actually studied the sky like this. Because of you, I think I have a whole different perspective on it now..." You said still admiring the different sections of the starry sky.
"What do you mean by perspective..." He asked in shock. He didn't know he would have this much of an effect on you.
"Like, I didn't know there was so much to look at... It's actually pretty interesting." You said pointing to each star trying to count them.
He gently smiled at you.
"You're different." You said.
"W- what?" He said confused.
"All of my friends think you're just some little loser. They pick at you all the time. Before this I thought you were just some random nerd that cared way too much about school." You said with a saddened expression.
"Yeah... I know." He said looking down, scratching the back of his neck.
"You're not though..." You trailed on.
"W- what do you mean?" He stuttered.
"You're actually pretty interesting. Now that I realize it... there's a lot more to you than what people say. You're pretty cool, you know." You said looking down at your feet.
"Oh, I- I didn't know you thought I was c- cool..." He said still stuttering.
"Could you ever count how many stars there are up there?" You questioned him, changing the subject.
"No." He giggled at you.
"Actually, theres supposed to be a solar eclipse happening soon... maybe we could go see it." He said turning around to look at your e/c eyes.
"That sounds pretty intriguing... How about, make it a date." You said looking over at him. You were actually pretty interested in him. He was much more than you thought before. Your friends were all wrong. Even if he is just some nerd like they all say, he really knew how to make you feel... special.
His eyes had lit up from your response.
"Uh... yeah sure." He said rushing his words while looking away trying to hide his rosy cheeks.
"Oh my gosh... it's already 9..." You said while looking down at your watch.
"Wait... that's a pretty nice watch." He said looking over to see it.
"Oh yeah... it was my grandfathers. Actually he was in the Vietnam War." You said moving your finger around the rim of your watch.
"Well, he must of been a great man." He said while jumping out of the plane onto the dirt.
You two had walked home that night, holding hands, while still studying the night sky. That night he had changed your whole perceptive on humanity. From now on you wouldn't focus on what everyone else said about someone. If you wanted to know they type of person someone was you would get to know them, not base them off of what everyone else said. Although your friends weren't thrilled by the fact you were falling for the schools so called loser, he was nothing but perfect to you. That night Izuku Midoriya had faded all of the thoughts of your old boyfriend away. He was different from the other boys... in a good way.
AAAA okay that was kind of cheesy but I hope you liked it. :)

Saw this video game tag thing pop up on my dash a few days ago. Wanted to do it.
1. First game you played obsessively? Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I believe I was 5yo. Still waiting on that FF7 Remake treatment.
Tumblr media
2. A game that has influenced you creatively? Writing, drawing, etc. Well if I play a game and like it, then I'll create sims of it. Does that count?
3. Who did you play with as a kid? My brother from the day I was born.
4. Who do you play with now? My brother FROM THE DAY I WAS BORN.
5. Ever use cheat codes? I wasn't lying when I made this post. {link}
6. Ever buy strategy guides? Yes! Mainly to look at the artwork though. (Don't need no guide!)
7. Any games you have multiple copies of? Lots of games, most being Left 4 Dead with 6 copies (3 Xbox 360, 1 PC case, 2 PC digitally.) What can I say, its a GOOD GAME!
8. Rarest/Most expensive game in your collection? Gold cartridge Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (maybe that's rare?)
Tumblr media
9. Most regrettable purchase? I don't regret my purchases, but I have received games I have never played like Cubix (PS2) no clue where that game came from, but I have it somehow. Madagascar (Xbox 360) came with my Xbox 360, never opened it from its case. And Monsters Inc. Scream Arena (Gamecube) or something... it was a gift.
10. Ever go to a midnight game release or stand in line for hours? No, because then I'd have to interact with people.
11. Have you ever made new friends from playing video games? I'm only friends with people BECAUSE of video games, so yes.
12. Ever get picked on for liking games? No, that'd be ridiculous.
13. A game you’ve never played that everyone else has? Probably a lot, I'd say Call of Duty, but I technically played CoD 1, 2, and 4. The campaign mode was alright, but I don't really care for CoD games at ALL.
14. Favorite game music? Koji Kondo and Grant Kirkhope are two BIG ones.
15. If it was a requirement to get a game related tattoo, what would you pick? Triforce is the most basic option, but I'd rather not get a tattoo.
16. Favorite game to play with your friends IRL? Super Smash Bros. Brawl with hacks, but that was over a decade ago.
Tumblr media
17. Ever lose a friend over a game? No, that'd be ridiculous.
18. Would you date someone that hates gaming? No, that'd be RIDICULOUS.
19. Favorite handheld console? PSP. 3DS is great, but PSP Monster Hunter has ALL of my portable gaming memories. Like playing in school after End of Grade tests with my friend.
20. Game that you know like the back of your hand? Sims 4 I like to think I know everything about Left 4 Dead. Quite a bit about Monster Hunter, more so of a series though than a specific game.
21. Game that you didn’t like or understand as a kid but love now? I'd say Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. I loved it as a kid, but had a lot of complex pen & paper RPG mechanics that I never understood. I understand a lot more of it now, but its still complex as all heck. I just know you hit things, they die.
22. Do you wear game related clothing/accessories? That's the only thing I wear.
23. The game that you’ve logged the most hours into? Not sure so I'll list a few. Sims 4, Smash Bros. Brawl, Monster Hunter (its a series though), or Left 4 Dead
24. First Pokemon game? Leaf Green
25. Were you ever an arcade game player? No, don't like paying to play.
26. Ever form any gaming rivalries? No.
27. Game that makes you rage? I don't get mad at games, but I had a custom modded Hard Eight mutation in Left 4 Dead that is absolute bullsh*t!
28. Ever play in a tournament? No, because then I'd have to interact with people.
29. What is your gaming set up? A giant wall of video game consoles spanning from NES to Switch, 4 TVs, but I sit at a desk with a PC.
30. How many consoles do you own? "I own every console that's ever existed." - I Don't Play Games When I Play Games (My STRENTH) original song by Smooth McGroove BUT no seriously I own 32 consoles including handhelds.
31. Does the 3DS and/or Virtual Boy hurt your eyes or give you headaches? Yes. 3DS gave me headaches though I only really played with the 3D feature in Ocarina of Time 3D. I think my eyes broke because I couldn't get my 3D to work very well after.
32. Did you ever play a game based on your favorite show/cartoon/movie/comic? Sure I play games based on a lot of things. Literally any anime game. If I had to pick Dragon Ball Xenoverse is kinda like a dream Dragon Ball game. Oh, Attack on Titan 2 is pretty neat too!
Tumblr media
33. Did you ever have any bootleg games or plug-n-play games? Some SEGA plug-n-play thing once. Played it like once and now its lost to time (or my closet.)
34. Do either of your parents play video games? Yes. Mom and Dad played NES Super Mario Bros. My Dad went HARD at that game until he saved the Princess. Then he quit forever.
35. Ever work in a game store? Or do you have a favorite game shop? "Hi. Welcome to Gamestop!"I never want to hear that again, but it was my main store until I went full digital/ online orders.
36. Have you ever shed actual blood, sweat or tears over a game? No, I don't tend to get upset or emotional, but Bill dying in Left 4 Dead made me pretty pissed.
Tumblr media
37. Have you played E.T. for the Atari 2600? Do you think thats the worst game ever, or do you have another nomination? Never played it. I don't really play "bad" games, but maybe Sims 4.
38. A game you’re ashamed to admit that you like? The Sims 4
39. A sequel that you would die for them to make? Dragon's Dogma 2 WHICH I think is actually in development, so I'd have to say Fallout New Vegas 2. C'mon Bethesda you cowards, hand the keys back over to Obsidian so they can make another good Fallout game!
40. What to you think of virtual reality headsets or motion controls? Two part question, two answers. VR Headset to immerse in world, yes. Motion Controls, no.
41. A genre that you just can’t get into? MOBAs and MMOs. I don't like paying to keep playing.
42. Maybe it wasn’t your first game, but what was the game that started you on your path to nerdiness? Nintendo 64 opened me up to what video games could be as a kid. Sad to say my parents' NES didn't really do that for me. And years later Fallout 3 was a big game changer for me too.
Tumblr media
43. Ever play games when you really should have been concentrating on something else? Every day of my LIFE.
44. Arcade machine that has consumed the most of your quarters? None. I'd rather emulate.
45. How are you at Mario Kart? Pretty dang good. 3-STARS MARIO KART WII, BABY!
46. Do you like relaxing games like Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon? Yes, both of those. I preferred when Animal Crossing had more character to it. New Horizons looks so pretty, but feels so bland compared to classic AC.
47. Do you like competitive games? No. Not really. Usually amongst friends or if I can get competitive against AI Bots. I love my machine bot friends cause they don't cry like 10 year olds when they lose.
48. How long does it take your to customize your player character? Too long. I've seriously restarted games because I wasn't happy with my character's appearance.
49. In games where you can pick your class, do you always tend to go for the same type of character? Yes, I am always the magic man, my brother is always brute warrior, and my friend is the ranger.
Tumblr media
50. If you were a game designer, what masterpiece would you create? I don't really know. Honestly, I'd rather mod already good games to make them better than create something completely new.
51. Have you ever played a game for so long that you forgot to eat or sleep? No, that'd be ridiculous. But I've had a friend fall asleep playing games at my house 3 different times and currently dozes off during our Minecraft sessions. So, maybe that's not a completely ridiculous thing after all.
52. A game that you begged your parents for as a kid? Kirby 64 apparently. My brother tells me we had to count out pennies to buy it. I must've been too young with no recollection, but I believe it.
53. What’s your opinion on DLC these days? It's good if its not in the game's files from the beginning and is actually developed AFTER launch... and pre-order bonuses should be standard DLC a month or two later. Some games have content lost to time because of that pre-order bullsh*t.
54. Do you give in to Steam sales? Of course. If you want a game and its on sale then why not? I typically wait just for Steam sales to get games.
55. Did you ever make someone you hated in the Sims and did mean stuff to them? No? I typically make people and characters I like in Sims. I've made villains like Dio, but he's an anime villain and I don't really HATE him despite the horrible things he's done.
56. Did you ever play Roller Coaster Tycoon and kill off your guests? No. Never played that game.
57. Did you ever play a game to 100% or get all of the achievements? I try to for all the games I really like.
58. If you can only play 3 games for the rest of your life, which ones do you pick? The Sims 4, Skyrim, & Fallout: New Vegas. Mods make them live forever. Left 4 Dead and Monster Hunter are good choices too.
59. Do you play any cell phone games? Those aren't games.
60. Do you know the Konami Code? No? But I'll take a guess. Is it make an IP and forget it exists?
61. Do you trade in your games or keep them forever? Keep forever... even the bad ones.
62. Ever buy a console specifically to play one game? PS4 Pro for Monster Hunter World. It was basically for early access since the PC version was being developed and releasing after PS4, but I don't like waiting.
63. Ever go to a gaming convention or tournament? Sort of. Been to anime cons and walked into the gaming tournament rooms only to walk out less than 10 minutes later.
64. Ever make a TV or monitor purchase based on what would be best for gaming? No, but I'm going to be doing that soon, hopefully.
65. Ever have a Game Genie, Game Shark or Action Replay? Did it ever mess up your game’s save file? GameShark for N64, PS2, Gameboy, and Action Replay for Gamecube, DS, 3DS. And no not really, I would cheat responsibly... but there was this one time at school my friend and I borrowed another friend's Gameboy game, loaded it up with my Gameshark, tried playing, it crashed, loaded it back up, save file corrupted... we just stared at each other jaws dropped, "Here's your game back, dude. Make sure you don't play it til you get back home!"
66. Did you ever have have an old Nokia with Snake on it? No, but I remember seeing them on billboards in the game DRIV3R on PS2.
67. Do you have a happy gaming-related childhood memory you want to share? Every game I play is filled with happy memories (mostly.)
68. Ever save up a ton of tickets in an arcade to get something cool? These tiger plushes. My brother got white and I got orange. They were the coolest. Got a butt load of tickets from some jackpot spinning light game thing as I was good at the timing with repeated jackpot hits.
69. In your opinion, best game ever made? I've played quite a few masterpiece games, but to pick one, I'd say Fallout: New Vegas
Tumblr media
70. Very first game you ever beat? Super Mario 64. I was a mere child on a Sunday morning and ate celebratory pancakes made by my Dad.
Tumblr media
Wow, that was long... I get the feeling this was supposed to be a "send me ask with numbers" thing, but answering all at once is more fun.

Maybe a bit of an odd question here: How good is people's capacity to remember on Tamriel? By that I mean. For a normal, basic human, 30y is.. a lot of time passed. And trying to remember something learnt even 10y before is difficult. But so many races (and individuals) live so much longer than that. So, do longer-lived races have a better capacity to remember? What about people born to races with a "normal" lifespan but who ended up living way longer? Or do they have to take notes to make sure they don't forget things that happened 100y ago?
In all honesty, this has never been much of a concern of mine, so I never really researched it.
It is well known that the Altmer have something akin to eidetic memory, because those bastards are very smug about it and usually rub it into your face whenever they can. Basically other races (humans at least) when they recall past events, they recall a memory, and then they recall the recalling of that memory, and then the recalling of the recalling of the memory, and that’s the way our memories slowly shift over time. Altmer always recall the source memory as they had lived through it, and they are unable to forget. Whether this applies to to other elves (and Orcs) I have no idea. Possibly not.
People who have somehow extended their lifespan are usually mages and they have added to their years via magic. Magic scholarship is in a nutshell one big memory training, so here memory is often not an issue. Additionally a lot of mages write notes and diaries, either to have a back-up (accidental magic-induced amnesia is fairly common incident) or to pass their findings to apprentices or further generations. As my old arcanophysics lecturer used to say: “It’s not a science if you don’t jot that shit down.”
My great-great uncle twice removed Kima - well his name is actually Kimakurr-jo, but we kids have never called him that and I am not about to start now -  is some 700 years old and a Khajiit and a vampire and a lich. His memory is rather selective; historical events and years completely elude him, he sometimes gets the names of his past wives mixed up, but without a fail he names trading cards by year and edition of print and reprint. I have a theory that he would remember other things if he could be bothered about them, too.
Another man that I know has obtained semi-immortality through a magical artifact, but he’s been struggling to recall anything that happened more than 40-50 years ago ever since. There were things that had greatly impressed him a century ago and he remembers them even now, but the last time I spoke to him he had admitted the memories are rather hazy and harder to catch than an eel. It doesn’t seem to be a problem for him as long as he doesn’t speak to me, as we are about the same age and I’ve known him since Aureata died...
Speaking of memory: Oh fuck, my tea!
