Hey! I work as a freelance content writer/copywriter as well. I had to stop working because of academic pressure, but the pay in my country is peanuts, and I have always wanted to expand globally. I would really appreciate it if you could share some tips on how you started getting clients and how did you build your agency? Thanks!!
Hi love! Some high-level tips are below:
Intern/Apply to remote internships to get clips/experience
Create an Upwork account to get entry-level work/testimonials to get some client portfolio work and to help build your professional reputation
Always be on the lookout for leads, do your research, and craft a thoughtful/useful pitch for the client/publisher. Send work samples/share how you can help them. Follow up – remember rejection is part of the job, it's a numbers game
Start your own blog to show off your skills/build credibility in the writing world/your field
Save all of your quality-work to use in your portfolio. Always have a portfolio ready in PDF format and as a direct link that's mobile-friendly available when pitching clients
Utilize LinkedIn, your university connections, build your network, request informational interviews, and don't be shy to ask for letters of recommendation or referrals
When you do get a client whose honest and integral, show up and do your best work and submit it on time. If you can't for whatever reason, request an extension/notify them of the delay ahead of time
Perfect your craft, continuously read about your industry, and sharpen your skills. Show up with a business owner, not employee, mindset. This might be different when you're doing contract work for an agency where they might have their own contracts, set a budget, etc. But, when working with smaller, independent clients, ensure you have your rates, terms, general business practices, contracts (see a lawyer about this one), onboarding process, client questionnaire, payment method, etc., all set up for your client to acclimate to when you're ready to sign them. Remember, your clients are your customers, not your employers. It is a partnership, not an unequal power dynamic – you are the talent, not the direct report.
Hope this helps xx

Writing Intro! <3
Hi! I'm new to writeblr--while I'm here I'll probably post things I write for fun or events, if there are any.
I'm also trying to gain experience with writing content as well as copy so that I can become a freelance writer. I'm a student, so I want to help out with college tuition (and maybe start investing). I hope to surround myself with writers so that I can discover the topics I like, as I took a break from writing for a while. Some things that I have written in the past include Shakespearean sonnets, alternate endings, and short stories. I'm also well-versed in academic-style writing, such as essays like literary analyses, synthesis essays, rhetoric analyses, arguments, research papers, and responses to prompts.
I look forward to meeting new people and learning along the way!!!
EDIT: I recently released chapter one my WIP, so you can check it out here if you want!

To any of my mutuals/anyone this applies to: if you are or have been a content writer or copywriter, what type of writing sample did you submit and how long was it?
I’d appreciate any tips you have! Feel free to message me if you don’t want to comment!

Welcome!
Hey y'all! I'm Lennon, and I'm a writer. I'm trying to expand into new spaces, including Tumblr. I'm going to be posting some of my old work on here just for consistency because I'm on a lot of platforms, like Medium, Newsbreak, and Substack. I'll link those here eventually if you're curious, because I do tend to mix up what I post between those. I love writing so much, and I want to share it with lots of people. I'm starting small, but so does most everybody. I hope people enjoy, and I hope to have some fun on here.
Oh, and I am trying to be more productive and keep motivated. Tips are very welcome, especially as a sufferer of writer's block. Sometimes, the words just won't flow.
Until next time (which should be very soon)

Painting Nature's Secrets on Canvas: An Introduction to Fathima Aafreen
Tumblr media
Fathima Aafreen is a freelance artist originally from India but has been based in Malaysia for more than a decade. Her signature is the one stroke painting technique which she uses to paint beautiful landscapes and natural sceneries. “Allah created the world beautifully,” her daily inspiration is the nature around her as she finds beauty in even the clouds that change shapes with the wind. Fathima not only enjoys painting breathtaking artworks, she also shares her knowledge and technique of painting to people all over the world through her online classes. Her students range from kids to older adults from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, India and more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The artist’s passion started in 2016 when she began to experiment with graphite pencils and oil pastels but after receiving appraisals from the people around her, she shifted to acrylic painting in 2018 and it has now become her favourite art medium. The painter does not limit her artistic expression to a single canvas as she explores painting on other materials such as cotton garments, wood, tote bags, and even the wall of her bedroom. On top of that, she also offers bespoke artwork creation services for anyone who wants to add their own touches to paintings or art projects. Her Instagram and Shopee page are the main platforms for people from all over the world to view her vibrant and awe-inspiring art.

What's the most important part of a copy?
It is not:-
• Heading
• Sub-Heading
• Image
It's is:-
The Flow - To make the reader read the whole copy
You might grab the readers attention with various things
And I'm not saying Heading, Sub-Heading & Images aren't important
But these are just to grab the attention
The most important part is keeping attention
I would want 10 people reading my whole copy more than 50 people quitting it midway
Attention is important but what do you say after getting it is even more important

i seriously should propose my own promotion. nothing goes out that i don't get my hands on and 50% of the time i'm restructuring and rephrasing every piece of copy that goes out, and more like 90% for some of my more involved accounts, especially the account whose brand identity is 100% from me. i have a social writer who writes bare-bones copy and then gives it to me like "i don't know how to make this work please help me, edit what needs it and feel free to make content suggestions" and most of the time i end up scrapping what she writes and i handle it from there. she can't push anything to client approval without my ok on it. i even edit her content schedules and recommendations sheets before the client sees those. and when we're in a pinch trying to clean something up for production that requires a miracle to be worked, or if we have a pitch going out, or any kind of internal communication or file that's being distributed, or if we have a presentation in mere hours but the content needs to be completely redone, the executives call me in on it. like. make me the content director already i'm so -_-
#it's so frustrating idk the corporate structure we have is like. there's two departments. creative and accounts#and within creative we have the creative director (who does a lot of conceptual and visual work) who oversees the designers#and then we have a handful of copywriters and proofers for various things. most of whom are freelance or contract#and then there's me. who does QA/QC and proofs and copyedits and checks for tonality and compliance#and landscape research and conceptual direction for messaging and all that. and i'm in accounts technically.#so do we see the issue. who is the creative director for the writers. they don't answer to the creative director. neither do i#the creative director and i are like. equals. we get pulled in on kickoffs and he handles visuals and i handle messaging#so why the hell am i not the content director. god it would streamline so much. we need someone to manage traffic#and organize the writers and get messaging and structure figured out before it even goes to production for versioning#it's just soo......#my supervisor is the vp of accounts/vp in general but she doesn't.. supervise me and never really has? i just#ask her if i can get time off for things. otherwise i'm on my own. and last year i remember the director of ops#saying my supervisor was feeling bad because i work on my own and there's no one i collaborate with as equals and#i had no guidance really after onboarding so it was horrible adjusting to the workload especially because i started in the MIDDLE#of AEP so we were slammed. so i'm like. overseeing things with virtually no direction#and i get so frustrated when i get copy written by another writer and 15 minutes to edit but it's so poorly constructed#and so off brand that it takes me 45 minutes to edit. like can i please just talk to the writers#if i'm already fixing their work and spending so much time doing it how about we do that before they start writing#or before it's 'done' like please let me give them direction. god#anyway hi thank you and welcome to my post about work. i have to go edit a powerpoint now
