Teenage Gaze by Marina Victoria

Teenage Gaze.

Through the eyes of a spectator,

It looks like a dream.

A dream they once woke up from.

The wrinkles on my eyes haven’t arrived yet,

But they will someday.

The acne on my chin won’t be here forever,

But it’s here now.

It’s just the teenage angst I guess.

When your young,

When your heart still has its strings,

When your soul still feels soft like a teddy bear.

Everything you can’t have seems so special.

The world seems so unknown.

So many places I’ve never been.

So many things I haven’t learned.

The world is filled with curiosities.

But the world isn’t like that anymore.

The questions are already answered.

The world is becoming known,

I’m growing up,

And it hurts.

Book Review: Woman by the door by Kashiana Singh

I’m reading ‘Women by the door’ by my virtual friend and poet, Kashiana Singh. I bought this book sometime in March and I read a few poems as soon as I got the book. I loved the ones I read so much, that I decided I would read one a day so I could savour each poem, allow it to marinate in my heart and my head and see which ones remained with me long after I had read them and then accordingly…

Women only belong in the kitchen.

Women are inferior to men and

Never ever say that

A woman is just as intelligent as a man.

That fact is not true

Men make better leaders than women

It is stupid to say

Women could be great leaders.

No, I don't think so

Men are naturally above women

I tried hating you,throwing endless swears on your name

I tried forgetting you,casting spells to wish you away

I wished I could take out my brain and erase every memory of you

No matter what I did,I could never succeed

In the end,I chose to remember you

I was watching #calltospy a #film based on the true story last night. I discovered many facts how women are treated during the world war II in Europe and France. Trigger Warning: Domestic Violence, torture, rape, women empowerment.

Men who will be looking at her as if they were undressing her with their eyes, but she shouldn't say anything because " usne kuch kiya toh nahi na "?

There is so much discrimination between men and women. The same job women cannot do as do the men because inequality is their favorite game, and they always win. Girls are supposed to be tender, soft, shy, and quiet. She always has to sacrifice her infinite dreams, which she chooses to write on paper and throws it in the fire, because, " ghar kaun sambhalega?". She's supposed to swallow the matter aloof of how many wolves she has caged inside her chest sitting right next to her heart because "ladki ho, dherre baat karo". She should never hold between her lips cuss words because"ladki ho, tameez nahi hai "? She should wear kindness like a second skin because "koi kuch bhi kahe, jawab mt dena ".

They taught the girls right from the beginning -

Now you'd say none of them are taught any of these things, so where is this coming from?

No one demands an explanation,

No one asks twice,

No one answers.

Find me freedom, in humanity

and in kindness,

Find me freedom, in opinion

and in expression,

Find me freedom, in freedom.

Find me freedom in the jewels of gold,

And in the gifts of wealth,

For the bride you buy,

In exchange for your illiterate son’s virility.

Find me freedom, from patriarchy

And toxic masculinity,

Find me freedom, from the imposition

And judgement,

Find me freedom, from freedom.

*As women, we need to uplift each other and not be judgemental. We should not hold anyone accountable for not raising their voice. Maybe, they tried but no one heard. Maybe, they just need help. Be that helping hand. Let's be the reason for someone's flight to freedom. Let us take a pledge on this important day to strive for equality in the truest sense of the term. Let's be there for each other, but we must not forget the men. They too need us. Let's not do to them what has been done to us. After all, we don't want to lose the meaning of equality.*
