When Night Comes
Platonic Yandere Vampire
Previous Part | Next Part
Story Chapter list
23. 𝓑𝓵𝓸𝓸𝓭 𝓦𝓪𝓽𝓮𝓻
Tumblr media
The night had been long and exhausting, but this mattered little to him. Now that he had brought his child back and turned her, everything was well. Shortly after her first feeding, (Y/n) had fallen unconscious, the exhaustion brought by her transformation finally taking over her.
As a coffin had yet to be made for her, the child had nowhere to rest.  She wasn't human anymore, a bed certainly wouldn't do. These things were too uncomfortable for greater beings like them. Dorian brought her to his own coffin and let her rest next to him for the time being.
Killian remained silent since (Y/n)'s transformation. He hadn’t uttered a single word since. His eyes lingered frequently on the youngling, but he presented a vacant expression, his mind adrift. Dorian didn't mind; he understood that, despite Killian's stoic exterior, the blonde vampire felt a sense of responsibility for the newly turned child. Now, he would have to think of (Y/n) before trying to leave. (Y/n) would now factor into both their lives, a reminder that Dorian intended to keep at the forefront of Killian's thoughts.
A heavy silence hung in the air, pregnant with tension as Killian's accusatory words sliced through the room like a dagger. His dark gaze bore into Dorian, carrying with it a weight of both anger and disappointment.
"You should have left her. You never should have turned her," Killian stated firmly, his voice dripping with a foreboding darkness that resonated through the chamber.
Dorian couldn't suppress a growl of frustration that rumbled deep within his chest. He loved his companion, a bond that had been forged over countless years of shared experiences and challenges. Yet, their differing philosophies had always sparked discord. With a sarcastic hiss, he retorted, "Of course, Killian, you are absolutely right. I should have left her to wither away and crumble into the abyss of old age." The irony in his words was palpable, a thinly veiled mockery of Killian's unyielding principles.
The girl in question, still adjusting to her new existence, remained cradled in Dorian's arms, her eyes closed. Dorian hugged her tightly, his hands tenderly covering her ears in a protective gesture. He wished fervently that the newborn vampire didn't hear the words that had escaped Killian's lips, for in her eyes, he was the embodiment of virtue and goodness.
"I do not care how much you dislike this situation," Dorian sneered, the bitterness evident. "Rant and rave about it as much as you want, but don't you ever — and I mean it — say it in her presence again." The warning hung heavy in the air. “I was able to get my hands on a stake once and I will not hesitate to do it again, but this time– and I swear to all that is holy and unholy– I will make sure to complete the job.”
She didn't need to know the depth of the internal conflicts that had arisen within the very beings she would have to look up to for guidance. They were her guides, and Dorian intended to shield her from the shadows that lurked within their immortal souls.
⊱ ────── {⋆𖤐⋆} ────── ⊰
The night unfurled around (Y/n) as she awoke, grappling with the disorienting transition from a human world to the reality of her new existence. She emerged from the coffin, the memories of the nunnery, the massacres, and her transformation flooding back. She distantly realized she couldn’t feel any more pain in her leg.
The once mundane aspects of her surroundings now pulsed with life—the scents, sounds, tastes, and sensations overwhelmed her heightened senses. The onslaught of sensations became too much to bear. Blood pounded in her ears, her hands trembled, and her feet tingled. It was a whirlwind of clarity and chaos, leaving her desperate for reprieve.
She needed it to—
She gulped as her stomach churned. She felt as though a hand of ice had reached inside her chest, gripping her heart with a vice-like hold. She covered her ears, shutting out the cacophony threatening to engulf her. She just wanted it to stop.
Stop, stop, stopstop—
"(Y/n)," a voice, loud and grounding, called out to her. She winced in pain.
"Child, can you listen to me?" The voice, a lifeline amidst the turmoil, asked gently. Hesitant, she nodded, still overwhelmed and scared. "I want you to take three breaths with me. Can you do that?"
Hesitant but compliant, she followed his lead. Breathe in, breathe out—a rhythmic attempt to regain control. The creaking door and the aroma of food wafting from downstairs threatened to disrupt her focus.
"Breathe in... breathe out," he instructed, accentuating the motions. Slowly, through repetition, (Y/n) began to regain a semblance of calm. Trembling persisting, she clung to Killian, a strange calm intertwining with an unfamiliar sense of resentment.
As she followed his instructions, focusing on the simple act of breathing, the chaos within her began to subside, if only momentarily. The scent of food from downstairs, once a distraction, now mingled with the comforting presence. With each inhale and exhale, she felt herself slowly coming back to herself, the trembling lessening as a sense of control returned. Yet, beneath the calm facade, a knot of resentment twisted within her.
"I'm a monster," she confessed in a whisper, scorn lacing her words as tears traced down her face. "He made me into this."
Killian rolled circles in her back, a silent pillar of support. Dorian wasn't in the room, there was only her and the other vampire.
"I never wanted this," her voice cracked.
He enveloped her in a comforting embrace. "I know, child," he assured, his tone echoing the different emotions that enveloped them both.
The sound of approaching footsteps reached (Y/n)'s enhanced hearing moments before the door swung open. Her gaze, a defiant glare, met the vampire who entered. Despite Killian's protective arm around her shoulders, Dorian paid it no mind, smiling while cupping her face in his hand.
"How is my little fledgling tonight?" he asked in a singsong voice. "Show me your fangs, dear."
(Y/n) clenched her jaw and turned her head away in defiance. Dorian, undeterred, tightened his grip, forcing her to meet his gaze again. "Now, don't be—"
Instinctively, she bared her teeth and attempted to bite him, a surprising action even to herself. Dorian retracted his hand just in time to avoid it. Rather than anger, (Y/n) sensed amusement radiating from her sire, who rewarded her with a sharp grin, practically cackling in delight.
"Quite a feisty one, aren't you?" he commented gleefully. "Father is so proud." She glowered. "Freshen up; it is time to eat."
She left their room to go to her own quarters without a word. Anything to not be in direct contact with him. A maid had already prepared a bath for her and left, a fortunate occurrence. She was bloodied, her clothes stained by blood that had dried. The origin was unknown to her. Was it from Dorian, herself or even the nuns? She clenched her jaw, preferring not to think of that.
She just wanted it all gone. With meticulous care, she lathered her hands with soap. She thought of Sister Gloria and of the pain she must have felt as her sire sank his fangs in her neck, draining her life force. Or maybe, as he sliced her open– or as he ripped her apart ruthlessly. Her mind buzzed, each possibility running through her head. She could still hear the screams, could still see the red. The same red covering her. As the soap bubbled between her fingers, she scrubbed furiously. It had to leave. Did he play with them before slaughtering them? Did he make them partake in his twisted version of hide and seek? Hiding until he found them and spilled all their life fluids across their haven? Was it the same fluid she had on herself now? She scrubbed, her nails digging into her skin with a desperate intensity. She needed it gone. Was that what she was forced to become now? Would her existence revolve around spilling all that blood? Would it be consumed by the red? She scrubbed, she could have missed–
Someone knocked. “Miss,” a soft, almost inaudible voice called, “the duke is requesting you.”
She looked down at the blood tainted water and stood up. She paused for an instant. With a sigh, she reached for the hand towel, her movements slow and hesitant. Once she finally dried and dressed herself, she was ready to go.

I know we always talk about Killian & his PTSD (especially after the Underworld arc) BUT. we never talk about Emma's so here I am to rectify that
you ever think about how terrified she must have been that none of it was real, that she was living false memories ?? I mean, think about it.
she had the false memories Regina gave her (s3), the knowledge in Isaac's book (s4) (she didnt have false memories but she knew others do & how that world functioned), the mind games with the darkness (s5), the wish realm memories & then the cursed memories (s6). and not to mention all the visions & nightmares she was shown to have.
my point is - after s6, she should have NO grip on reality and what's true anymore. fearing that any moment she would wake up & her entire life would be a lie - fabricated by a villain intent on keeping her complacent.
and because to me, CS is the heart of the show, I have to mention it
she would turn INCREDIBLY clingy w/ killian, needing constant, constant physical affirmation that he's there & that he's real. getting paranoid if she wakes up & he isn't there - even if he's just in the bathroom or getting water, or just woke up before her. feeling anxious that something is wrong if they're not together for more than a few hours. quite literally glued to his hip out of fear of losing him, fear that it was just some cruel play by hades, or the fairy, or gold, to make her think her happy ending was finally hers, only to eventually rip it away from her ?

・Will is a caring and gentle partner. He’s quite emotionally open and doesn’t mind discussing his feelings
・The first time you met, there was a ringing of steel on steel. The clash of swords; a battle neither would win.
・As the captain of the Flying Dutchman, Will had found your ship, with its healthy and vital crew
・Your coffers were full, and your crew was never hungry
・As the enemy ship sailed towards your own, your curiosity won over your logic
・What’s the point in being immortal if you can’t have a little fun?
・So when the fighting broke out, you soon realised who you were dealing with. Davy Jones had been slain, but in his place stood a handsome young man.
・Both you and Will agreed to stay out of each other’s way, but destiny wouldn’t let you part
・It wasn’t difficult, to let your feelings take over. Both you and Will had a fascination with each other, one that ran deep
・Both of you wanted to be a captain and sail your own ship. The pirate life wasn’t one that was easy to give up
・That freedom is intoxicating.
・But destiny was always on your side
・Because you found an old relic that gave you the power to find Will, no matter how far he sails
・Will does get jealous easily though, and when he first met you, he was certain that your quartermaster was your lover. But Killian was a loyal friend, and only a friend
・You knew about Captain Jack Sparrow, but never got the chance to actually meet him. Something told you that wherever Jack went, trouble followed...so you followed him
・Will told you to steer clear of the dread-locked fiend, but you wanted something of his. A certain compass.
・What Will loves most about you, is your hot head and wild nature. Although it can be difficult at times, he would never make you dull that part of yourself
・You keep him on his toes, and he wouldn’t want it any other way
・Whenever you’re together, Will likes to surprise you with artefacts (since you can get any jewel you wish - you can never die. No matter the injury.)
・You like playing with Will’s hair, it’s actually quite curly
・He likes when you hum, and you do it a lot. It’s always absent-mindedly, because you’d be mortified if Will heard you sing (although when you get to the drink, you don’t care whose listening)
・Your crew mates start to feel comfortable around Will’s. There’s even moments of family members reuniting
・You take good care of your crew - since you hand pick them yourself
・You’ve sailed nearly everywhere, and experienced everything. Some things you wish you could forget, but others that you know are otherwordly
・You’ve saved mermaids
・Slayed British soldiers, who try to rid the world of pirates
・You’ve even been nominated to be pirate king a few times (but you never turned up to the meetings)
・You’re a legend, a myth, a reality
・Some people think that if they capture you, they’ll be able to take your eternal youth
・So you can never be in one place for too long
・Anyone that’s around you will become younger - the time in their life when they felt like their best self
・But this doesn’t work on Will ... it was one of the reasons why he was so peculiar to you
・Like destiny had played a nasty trick on the both of you

・Consent King™ always asks if what he’s doing is okay, asks if he can kiss you, etc.
・Favourite place to have sex is on the beach. The hot sun beating down on you, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. It makes an ethereal atmosphere.
・Always makes sure you’ve orgasmed before he does
・Can go for multiple rounds, without tiring
・He’s swept up in the heat of the moment, and doesn’t think about whether he’s being light-hearted or sensual
・Will is like a whirlwind when he’s turned on. Grabbing at your clothes and tearing them off, kissing every inch of bare skin he can find

Beware of the Fae | Yandere Lilia
Tumblr media
“Killian!!!”
You screamed into the void of the darkening forest trying to ignore the fear tampering with your voice. Pushing past protruding branches and thorns of the brush you continued to search for your son.
“Killian!!”
You desperately call once more unsuccessfully, swallowing away your tears as you found no traces of your son. Wiping at the intrusive bubble of tears you forged on, yelling out with your haggard voice as the light of the sunset began to fade. And as the hope drained with the sunlight an old fear rebirthed itself. A fear that lived on in the forest. The fear that lingered with the naivety of children. The fear of fae.
Years ago, in a time long past you recalled the wagging finger and lecture of your parents before you could go out to play. The ones that were repeated late at night to discourage nightly raids to the forest not so far away. The stories that told you not to give your name to any characters in the forest. The lectures that said not to join in the faerie circles or step into the faerie rings.
It was a fear that the whole town fed into; a single one of many that you wish you could forget. But in all honesty your situation was a unique one, something out of a horror novel you would have read. Mysterious bloating, obvious weight gain, to undeniable pregnancy; the kicker being that you literally couldn’t have children. Lack of genitalia or no sexual partners the situation was unprecedented and really confusing. Not just for you but for the whole town who had done the most humane option and kicked you out. Which you greatly preferred over being branded a witch and burned at the stake. They let you take off on your own as an anomaly not to be messed with left to birth your child in your home that sat closest to the woods.
“Killian!!!”
In the lonesome of your lone house you had Killian. Your mystery baby was a joy even as the only person you were able to talk to other than the occasional pet. He kept you busy as he discovered the small world around him showing a growing interest in the forest. In your attempt to be a better parent you didn’t plague him with the stories and reminders about the fears of being eaten or taken by the mythical fae. Perhaps you should have.
“Killian!!!”
It was especially dark now and you were running blind but what else could you do? Sit and wait? He’s your son. So you ignored the howls of the nocturnal predators and the burning ache in your legs.
You stopped for a minute, involuntarily buckling into the mud trying to catch your breath. As you tried to drown out the bleating of your heart you could faintly hear the sound of bells tinkling. You figured your mind was playing tricks on you, slapping your cheeks to regain some sense of sanity. Only to find that the sound didn’t stop but increased; you looked up to the growing sound to see a blur of lights. Bringing your hands to wipe at your eyes, thinking perhaps you’re just hallucinating.
You stood up slowly moving towards the ring of dancing lights as you inspected the nature glowing with it. Listening, all you could hear was the twinkling harmony and..cheering? As you crept closer, you settled behind the tree to inspect the people dancing and jeering in a celebration of sorts.
These people were of many different shapes and sizes with otherworldly features. Antlers decorated with flowers and moss, pointed ears adorned with jewels, tails waving with their owners. It was a sight to behold. Regaining control of your stupefied state you made sure to keep yourself hidden scanning among the shorter fae for your son’s unruly hair. Not spotting him you were about to turn and leave only to stop as you felt the eyes of someone. Cautiously you look behind you and then back within the circle trying to see who had spotted you. It wasn’t until you looked past the lights at the far end of the circle that you met with the burgundy pair of eyes.
You’d think nothing of it if it weren’t for the fae with familiar magenta highlights holding onto your little boy curled into his lap.
You wanted to run.
You wanted to go home and cry into your bed as you waited for your son to come home.
But you couldn’t. Not when the fae that held your son had no intentions of letting either of you go, beckoning you with a coyness unique to him.
Fighting the tremble in your form, you crossed the dancing lights. Barely comforted by the unperturbed fae-crowd you went on cautiously stepping across the glowing forest floor. You began inching closer to him nearly a foot away you couldn’t bring yourself to look anywhere but your sleeping boy. Hearing a giggle from ahead you finally looked into his eyes.
“We’ve finally met (Y/n), glad to have you home.”
______________________________________________________________
You sighed, continuing to pack your few belongings into the sack you once moved away with. There wasn’t much but as you stood back to see the empty bedroom, it really all began to settle in. You were shaken out of your reflection by the pull of a tiny hand against your pant leg and the call of your name. You swooned following Killian who was proudly showing you how well he packed his things; you praised him giving him kisses as you inspected his work. He broke away from you perking up as he realized someone had stepped on the property.
“Daddy!!”
Running out the door you inhaled as you made a mental note. You’d have to get used to that. The presence of another parent would be new to you, leaving out your own complicated relationship with him aside. You fixed up his sack, chucking it over your shoulder as you headed outside to the grazing mule.
“Morning, love.”
You ignored him as you hauled the sack into the bin using the nearby rope to secure it. You tried to continue ignoring him as he playfully leaned into your view, giggling when you nudged him out of the way.
“Daddy! Daddy! C’mere I wanna show you!”
You’re grateful for Killian who happily led him into the nearly empty house as if he didn’t know every nook and cranny. You continued your process only flashing a smile or giving the proper response when Killian was looking your way. To say you were less than happy with the following arrangement would be an understatement. Finally prepared to leave you were in no mood to inform the other two instead opting to drown your sorrows with perishable food enjoying it in the solace of your room. Time passed as you satisfied your hunger and distracted from the creeping sorrow in your chest.
You curled yourself on the bare mattress letting silent tears slide down the side of your face. All you felt was the sinking of the bed and the warmth of his body behind yours. You felt his mouth graze against your ear and neck as he positioned himself in the crook of your neck and shoulder.
“He’s taking a nap. Said he was tired after working so hard.”
“Where, there isn’t anywhere for him to sleep well?”
“In the flower bed outside.”
“Flower bed? We don’t have any flowers.”
“Now you do.”
You groaned and tried shifting forward only for the fae to follow, settling even closer to you. Slithering in place his arms wrapped around your midsection, holding you in place as he rubbed your stomach. He placed a kiss along your collarbone speaking into your neck.
“I’m sorry for leaving you for all that time, (Y/n).”
You felt that same bubble of tears begin as you tried to curl away from the body already curling around you. The hand on your stomach traveled lower, unfettered as you tried to stop it on your own.
“I really am sorry (Y/n), let me make it up to you.” His position shifted, caging you in as he settled ontop of you, locking eyes with you as he tentatively rubbed your nose against his.
“Or at least,” He kissed your upper lip. “Let me start.”

Burn The Ships (3/?)
Tumblr media
A HUGE THANK YOU TO @snowbellewells FOR THIS INCREDIBLE ART. I wish I knew how to best express how amazing it feels to have someone make art for something I wrote. It is just the best feeling in the world. <3
THIS IS/WILL BE MATURE.
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | ???
Tagging: @anmylica, @deckerstarblanche, @elfiola, @goforlaunchcee, @jrob64, @kmomof4, @pirateswhore, @stahlop, @teamhook, @tiganasummertree, @undercaffinatednightmare, @xarandomdreamx, @zaharadessert (let me know if you want to be added or dropped)
Exhaustion did not lovingly pull Emma into a peaceful oblivion where she could rest and forget. Rather, it dragged her into a brutal storm - the howling winds tore at her, the thunder rumbled threateningly deep in her bones, and emotions best forgotten rained down on her. She was alone, abandoned on the edge of a forest. The cold rain seeped into her bones, having already soaked through her clothing, as she stumbled forward toward… nothing. She had no place to call home.
In the way of dreams, Emma blinked and was on a beach. Her body ached as if she’d been walking for days. She wasn’t sure where she was going but walked on as waves pummelled the shoreline. It seemed she wasn’t alone, apparently, the storm would accompany her through these strange dreams.
She turned toward the turbulent waters and her next step landed on a wooden board. Her stomach plummeted as the ship was thrown from the rolling sea. Emma desperately reached out, trying to find something to keep her on the deck as the ship leaned dangerously into the water. The boards were too wet, the sea too hungry for new souls… Emma was being sucked under the water, lungs screaming for air.
I’ve got you.
Cool, crisp air filled her lungs. She was back on the deck of a ship, once more. The angry onslaught of violent waves had given way to playful swells that lapped gently against the hull. No other soul was aboard the ship, but Emma felt contented rather than alone. A word, a feeling, that had never carried meaning to her wrapped itself around her heart followed by a consuming fear - panic - it would be taken away.
You’re safe, love.
The softly accented voice reached through her dreams again, wrapping around her as warm and comforting as a well-loved blanket. Emma yearned to snuggle into the melody of that low voice. In that strange way of dreams, she suddenly felt certain that the voice could protect her from the painful reality that waited to greet her upon waking. If she could just melt into it, maybe it would prevent her from losing that feeling she’d spent a lifetime chasing.
Rest now.
And, at long last, with that voice and that feeling wrapped around her heart, Emma rested. §§§§    §§§§    §§§§    §§§§
The white wolf had been stunning, her fur seemed to shimmer with its own light source. But the woman who stormed out of his cabin the next morning was a sight to behold.
With her blonde waves flowing behind her and her emerald eyes wild, this wild woman charged onto the deck armed with only his letter opener and a lot of swagger. She acted as though she were a rival captain set on commandeering his ship rather than a damsel recently rescued from Pan’s clutches. She had taken the liberty of procuring clothing from his wardrobe before launching her assault, the deep plunging necklines of his shirts and the way his soft leather trousers wrapped around her curves distracting him long enough for her to strike out with her borrowed weapon.
Killian captured her wrist and forced her to release the letter opener in a quick motion. He’d offer to teach her how to properly wield any weapon of her choosing once they were better acquainted. Perhaps sometime after he was certain that he wasn’t in danger of finding the weapon buried somewhere in his flesh.
Sighing at her newest attempts to claw at his leather coat, he pulled her closer.
“I’m not your enemy,” he murmured to her as he wrapped his arms around her, pinning her arms to her side to prevent her from continuing her attack. He tried to focus on calming her and gaining control of the situation rather than the way she felt in his arms and the way her scent stirred something deep within him.
“You’re safe, love,” he soothed. The woman stilled.
Her frantic breathing slowed and the tension slipped from her limbs. The ocean lapping on the hull and their breathing were the only sounds for a few moments. It could have been romantic…if the situation were entirely different.
“If you promise to behave, I will let you go.”
She stared at him with frustration burning brightly behind her eyes. Her wildness and defiance stoked a desire in him - and his wolf - that he was becoming more difficult to ignore with every minute he spent in her presence.
After a moment, during which she held his gaze with hers as if trying to determine the trick in his offer, she nodded in agreement with his terms. He reluctantly released her.
The loss of contact left him desperate for any excuse to hold her again. He suppressed the whine his wolf let loose with a clearing of his throat. Then, with a bit of a flourish, he introduced himself to her.
“I am Captain Killian Jones and you’re aboard the Jolly Roger. You are welcome on my ship for as long as you wish.”
“HOOK?! You’re Captain Hook?” She wasn’t afraid of him, which seemed promising. Doesn’t mean she will love someone like you. Killian shoved away the taunting voice of his father and smiled at her as if she had said something particularly flattering.
“Ah, so you have heard of me.”
She looked at him flatly, clearly not impressed with his antics. “Is this ship enchanted?” The abrupt question was a bit unexpected. Of course, the Jolly Roger was enchanted - to keep a course he set, to alert him of guests aboard his ship, to hide treasures from unwelcome eyes - but the enchantments were subtle and not something that should be so easily detected.
He cocked an eyebrow to conceal his surprise. “I’m not giving secrets away to a lass who hasn’t given me her name.”
“Oh, so it is enchanted.” She looked around as if the spell work would reveal itself to her. She took a few deep breaths, frowned a bit, breathed in again, and turned back to look at him. “Emma Swan.”
“Why are you sniffing my ship,” he hesitated before deciding with certainty, “Swan?” He smiled, the name fit her perfectly - and felt so right leaving his lips.
“Better question. Why would you use magic to make it smell so… incredible?”
Killian scratched a spot behind his ear. What was the correct way to tell someone who woke up on a strange ship and wasn’t sure if you were another threat in the never-ending nightmare of Neverland or a possible ally that the scent they thought was part of a strange enchantment was a sign that they were in the presence of their mate? It seemed a lot to ask of anyone without adding that she had been Pan’s prisoner for some length of time before becoming the target of the most recent hunt.
“The incredible smell of salt and fish?” Smee grumbled. A few of the crew laughed. Emma looked thoroughly confused. Killian wasn’t sure if her confusion was at his comment or at the sudden realisation that they had an audience for this little episode.
Seeing as he’d completely forgotten his men still on the deck, he figured it was likely a bit of both. He did not want an audience for whatever was to follow.
“That’s enough from you, Mr Smee. There is a deck that needs to be swabbed.” Hook growled out. Grumbling, Smee stomped down the stairs to the main deck. The other crewmen fell into their own tasks and responsibilities understanding the example being made of the first mate.
Emma watched all of this with a small frown on her face.
Once they were alone on the quarterdeck, she focused her piercing emerald gaze at Killian. “Do you think he really doesn’t smell that…?”
Killian shook his head and answered softly, gently, “No, love, I don’t believe he smells anything but the sea.”
She narrowed her eyes at him, “But…you, you smell it?” The words sounded as though she were begging him to confirm that she hadn’t taken leave of all of her senses.
“Aye.” He confirmed with a small smile.
Her eyes widened, panic flashing momentarily before several other emotions followed in quick succession. “Oh.”
Killian winced. “Aye.”

CaptainSwan has an abusive marriage because Hook was a villain. DEBUNKED.
I had a request on X formerly known as Twitter to debunk the below CaptainSwan hate. I think I have covered all of this before but I thought I might remind the Regina Apologists that if you use these arguments against CaptainSwan you’re a raging hypocrite. So yes, this is going to be another “but what about your ship” post just for the purpose of pointing out the hypocrisy.
So buckle up CSers and let’s dive into another installment of “WTF did that Regina apologist just say!?”
Proof of Emma & Killian’s Abusive Marriage?
Apparently Emma is doomed to a life of abuse, because according to Regina Apologists, Killian has a history of abusing Emma:
Hook physical assaulted Emma: Body Slamming, Shoved, abused other women too (villain Hook)
Hook sexual assaulted Emma and other women (false)
Hook attempted to kidnap Emma’s son (a swing & a miss)
Hook has poor communication skills (writing trope, stfu)
Hook has a drinking problem (HAD. therefor head canon)
Hook is rude to Emma’s mother (shower remark) and Henry (ONE TIME. You’re never rude to anyone?)
Hook shifts blame from himself to Emma (ONE TIME if you even want to count this & it’s about killing David’s father & he corrected himself)
Hook made Emma co-dependent as she was willing to let her parents die and her brother become an orphan (What is this even? Is it the Under World trip? But Henry isn’t mentioned… I think they got their Regina list confused with the Killian list.)
Hook treated her like trash, manipulated & lied to her, put her down, especially when angry (Villain/DO Hook)
Hook jumped off a roof just to get Emma to talk to him (get over it losers)
Hook is Professor of Moodiness 101 (What is that even? They didn’t have enough bullet points I guess)
Hook thinks family and friends are possessions but Emma’s loved ones are threatened by Killian?? Tried to maliciously kill Emma’s family and friends (more Villain/Dark Hook & he apologized, went to hell and was tortured)
What about the future of Regina & Emma's toxic friendship (cause canonically that's all that existed)?
Regina physically assaulted Emma and plenty of other people too.
Regina sexually assaulted Graham AND y’all seem to think “taste my forbidden (poison) fruit” is sexual.
Regina abused Emma’s son, tried to turn him against her and then attempted to kidnap him (she was evil so she had no rights, please understand this)
Regina has a self-centered, wont listen to anyone else, attitude problem
Regina also has poor communication skills
Regina is rude to Emma’s family and friends ALL OF THE TIME. So not just once like Killian. But All the time.
Regina was the one that actually let Emma’s parents sacrifice themselves in S6 for her instead of being a true hero.
Regina actually treated Emma like garbage before and after her supposed redemption (Regina lied, manipulated, used, insulted, degraded and dismissed Emma all 6 seasons)
Regina used the dagger to hurt Emma and tried to force Emma to tell her secrets that Emma didn’t want to share with Regina
Regina murdered Emma’s wish parents in front of her & no amount of begging made her stop (she still failed)
Regina destroyed Emma’s life and was the one to actually try and murder Emma and her parents on multiple occasions AND SHE DOES NOT REGRET IT.
If things that Villain Hook and the Hook consumed by Darkness did is proof that redeemed Killian Jones will abuse Emma Swan then the exact same can be said for Regina Mills. And Regina was never consumed by darkness. I know you all like to pretend that Dark Hook was the “Real Hook” but it wasn’t and you need to get over that. The darkness controls & manipulates its host but you’d know that if you looked at Rumple or even watched Season 5.
So are we done using these as reasons Emma and Killian will have an abusive marriage? Because obviously if SwanQueen had ever been a thing then they would have an extremely abusive partnership if we apply this same logic to them. Actually, Regina is more likely to abuse Emma than Killian Jones because between the two of them my list is more accurate for her and she has history of domestic violence (Graham, Snow, Henry, King Leo, her father). And the fact that Regina is an abusive “friend”.
But OUATSnark, all of these one time things add up! Yeah, we’re human beings. Our mistakes tend to do that. That’s why circumstances, context, intent and patterns and responses matter. So let’s break these down one by one shall we? I will be throwing Rumbelle into the mix just in case any Rumbellers out there wanna agree with the Regina Apologists.
Physical Assault
CLAIM: Hook physically assaulted Emma by body slamming her and shoving her. He also physically abused other women.
CORRECTION! Emma and Hook physically assaulted each other. Kinda. Is this what the kids are calling sword fights these days? This happened when Hook was a villain. When Emma and Hook were on opposing sides. Yes, they had a sword fight. Things happen during a sword fight. You know how that ended? He got a rock to the face. Way to go Emma! That was also after she betrayed him. Way to not listen to your literal inner voice, Emma. And yes, Hook gave her a little shove out of the way to get to Rumple. All of this happened when they were still enemies.
Neither Hook nor Emma touch each other in a violent way once he is on his path to redemption and aside from them being literally consumed by evil. Them as dark ones is not a measuring tool for how they are since they’re no longer consumed by evil.
Other abuse: Yes, Hook was a villain. He had victims that were women. He had victims that were men, too. The women victims, however, weren’t victims because they were women or because he was seeking to control them in a relationship so that does not mean he’d be an abusive husband. He was an equal opportunist villain. Please check his EQUAL partnership with Milah as more proof he is not a domestic abuser. Just because someone commits one kind of crime doesn’t mean they commit all kinds of different crimes. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
So why is all of this a problem now that Hook’s redeemed? It’s not a problem unless you hate CaptainSwan because you (wrongly) think Hook ruined your chances at your actual abusive toxic ship because…
Regina was physically abusive to Emma before her redemption:
She tried to poison Emma, twice (S1)
Threw her down a driveway (S2 when Emma rightly called Henry “HER SON”)
Punched her (S1 over Graham)
Choked her (S2 trying to stop Emma from getting in the way of turning Cora into a DO)
So Regina also has a history of being physically abusive to Emma when they were still enemies. I guess that means Swanqueen would have a terribly abusive marriage too, then, right? Or are you a double standard hypocrite? For the record, I don’t think the above is proof she undoubtedly would be. However…
Oh but wait, Regina was physically abusive to Emma AFTER her redemption:
Regina used the dagger to control Emma and LIKED that it hurt Emma. This is only significant because Regina reveled in hurting Emma with that dagger. She didn’t even apologize or care either. In fact she thought it was great that she made Emma thank her. That’s just abusive behavior. I’m sorry. When you hurt someone you love you apologize even if it’s an accident. And you sure as hell do not do it again then demand being thanked!
She used that dagger to torture Emma into revealing truths to her that Emma didn’t want to tell her. Regina might have been trying to help but she continued when an obviously hurting Emma BEGGED her to stop. Regina ultimately failed. But if Hook’s past is a reason you claim he’ll physically hurt Emma in the future then this is definitely a sign that Regina will push Emma past her breaking point if Regina wants something from her bad enough. Fair is fair, y’all!
Regina then murdered Emma’s wish parent’s in front of her Emma’s anguish didn’t even phase Regina. Again she pushed Emma past her breaking point and didn’t stop. SHE DID NOT STOP. Because Regina wanted to be the hero by any means necessary and she still failed! Emma’s pain is what brought Killian out of the darkness. Regina just kept on going!
Other abuses: Aside from all the murder, she choked a village child, abused her knights, tortured people and goodness knows what other things during her years of Tyranny. So. Yes, Regina likes to abuse people. She abused Belle after her redemption and didn’t care. She verbally abused young August (yes, she snapped under pressure but she is rude to someone at least every episode).
But do you know what Regina’s big red flag is? She forced Graham to have a relationship with her then killed him for rejecting her.
So which one is more likely to domestically abuse Emma and force her into a relationship? Hook or Regina? Regina has a history of domestic abuse so the answer would be Regina.
And for you Rumbellers out there that think Rumbelle had a beautiful marriage, lets remind you that Rumple was physically abusive to Belle:
Shook her
Threw her in a tower & locked her away
Put her in a sleeping curse
Uh oh looks like Rumbelle is going to be a highly physically abusive marriage! But wait, we already knew that. At least those of us without blinders on.
Newsflash y’all the enemies to lovers ships have a history of fighting. Shocker. But the only one to come to physical abuse AFTER redemption was SwanQueen. Therefor if you ship SwanQueen you shouldn’t be saying “CaptainSwan’s marriage is violent because of stuff that happens when they’re enemies”. And if you ship Rumbelle you should just stop talking all together.
Sexual Assault
CLAIM: Killian kissed Emma without her consent! He’s a pirate! All pirates rape! And he’s admitted to getting women drunk to rape them!
Do I have to say this again? Killian was trying to break a curse. The writers were paralleling them with Snowing. Just get over it!
And no, just because he was a pirate that doesn’t make him a canon rapist. You want to fanon him as one? That’s sick but it’s your right. But your fanon is not proof of canon.
And those words were not in that EF pub scene, that is not what that scene was about, and Emma has NO REACTION? Please just exercise some honesty and use some brain cells, I beg you!
Besides, If Hook is a sexual abuser because of the attempted true love kiss then so is David. If we follow this logic then surely he assaults Snow on a nightly basis, right? This isn’t meant to be a strawman argument… I am just trying to point out the hypocrisy. I know no one believes David does this cause it’d be far too ridiculous. So why is Hook held to a different standard? Because he is a villain or because you just hate him? Cause both kisses happened under the same circumstances and we never see Hook force a kiss on anyone outside of this very specific circumstance.
But let’s talk about Regina. Since y’all think “how to get the savior to taste my forbidden (poison) fruit” is something sexual then what does that say about your ship? Because to me it says sexual abuse is just fine as long as it’s Regina doing it. And as I said earlier she forced Graham into a relationship with her. She sexually assaulted him for 28 years then murdered him when he rejected her. What about David? Yes, her trying to seduce a cursed David is 100% attempted sexual assault. I’ve even seen people convincingly argue that she’s even touched Killian inappropriately and suggested she’d make David a sex slave when she had him in her prison.
And for you RUMBELLE stans out there: Yes, Rumple assaults Belle several times. Once when he was masquerading as Killian AFTER her rejection and ejection from her life. He uses the author to re-write her as his wife AFTER her rejection. And he kisses her without permission while she’s in the sleeping curse AFTER she’s rejected him again.
OK while we’re here let me just draw the SWANFIRE fans into this: Yeah yeah yeah Neal wouldn’t have been charged for statutory rape since 16 was the age of consent in that state but lets not pretend that a 150 yr old with a 16/17 year old isn’t cringy. His body might not have aged but he has the experience of two lifetimes worth of emotional and mental maturity. And again it’s just sick.
So I ask you… out of all these couples…which one is more likely to sexually abuse their partner? Regina and Rumple is the answer because they have CANON history of doing so. Neal is more likely to cheat on Emma with a much younger woman. Deal with it.
So lets also scratch sexual abuse off your reasons CaptainSwan is abusive cause one, its a lie and two, your favorite (Rumple, Regina or Neal) is actually the canon rapist.
Kidnapping Henry
CLAIM: “Hook attempted to kidnap her son. (To save him from Zelena, Cool motive. Still kidnapping)… I’m sure none of these things will cause problems in their marriage [sarcasm]”
So apparently Hook attempting to kidnap Henry to save him from Zelena is proof that Hook is going to abuse Emma during their marriage? Or maybe they meant Henry? Still. Say what? That does not even make even a little bit of sense. But to say this as someone who ships Regina and Emma? Are you for real? Lets review.
Regina actually physically and emotionally abused Henry.
Regina poisoned Henry (To kill Emma. Cool motive. Still did it.)
Regina mind-wiped Henry so she could kidnap him to the Enchanted Forest and leave Emma to die (she had no rights to him)
Regina used vines to restrain Henry after his rejecting her Regina gaslit Henry and made him & everyone else think he's crazy.
Regina lied & manipulated Henry to get him to hate Emma and Snow
Regina used him to get Emma to leave the jail so she could talk to a prisoner
Regina sent Emma’s son to spy on the dark one so she could rewrite her own story & screw up everyone elses
Hell, Emma kidnapped him in Season 1 to get him away from Regina’s abusive ass!
So before you use “Hook kidnapped Henry” as an excuse as to why CaptainSwan will have an abusive marriage please check your own ship first because Regina actually has a history of abusing Henry to get what she wants. At least Hook was attempting to protect him. Regina was purposefully hurting him.
Furthermore... I know you all would have been 100x more critical if Killian did nothing or if he'd chanced telling Emma. You all would say he was still endangering Henry. So, honestly, save your fake outrage.
Poor Communication Skills
CLAIM: “Hook got drunk instead of telling Emma the truth about her grandfather"
Since Hook got a little drunk one time while trying to work up the courage to tell Emma about David’s father he now has poor communication skills? That’s right folks. One time. See logical people understand that if something happens one time it’s not an indication that it is an ongoing problem. But if you hate Killian Jones it is an excuse to say that if he did it once of course he does it all the time!
Also it’s not like failing to tell someone something isn’t the oldest writing trope of all time. That couldn’t be it, could it!??? Like this is such a pathetic reach. CaptainSwan talk all the time about everything. About his part in Rumple’s past. That time he sat down with her and helped her see what her parents were going through. The fact that he’s always the one to say “I love you” first. But sure you go ahead and ignore that.
What about Regina and Emma? Regina had to use the dagger on Emma to try and get her to tell her why Emma was holding onto the darkness. All Killian had to do was ask. Regina dragged Emma to a bar to get her to open up about Killian leaving and Emma opened up to a bar tender instead! Regina refused to talk to Emma about Robin. Regina refused to listen to Emma about Henry/Pan and just walked away instead of communicating! Regina went back to Cora instead of seeking help from Emma. So far I am seeing more instances of SwanQueen not communicating!
You wanna talk about RUMBELLE’S communication or lack thereof? When did you ever hear Rumple ask Belle what she wanted? Cause he basically was just like “I’m gonna move your life around where I want it without asking”.
So again, what ship has the worse communication problems? Regina and Emma’s friendship sucks but honestly I’d give this one to Rumple since he just takes charge of Belle’s life.
Alcoholism
Hook apparently STILL has a drinking problem. Did you guys know that? I didn’t. Literally news to me! OK I’ve heard the claim before but it’s just another reach and a miss. Claims of Hook having a drinking problem are from biased people who’ve obviously never seen alcoholism. Or someone who successfully got on the wagon and stayed on it.
First off, no drunk is the same. You have angry drunks, friendly drunks, happy drunks, sleepy drunks, hyper drunks. We never see Hook as an angry drunk. So to say that he’s an angry abusive drunk is 100% fanon. We actually see him as a pretty happy, charming, drunk who’s giving Emma an out on whether or not to accompany him to his ship. So obviously not an angry or controlling drunk.
Secondly, has anyone actually counted how many times we’ve seen him drink? Because it was not every episode. NM that having one drink a day doesn’t make you an alcoholic. Getting drunk every once in a while does not make you an alcoholic. If it did then I guess I’d better get myself to AA.
Thirdly, we only see him as a falling down drunk on a few occasions. We know he was a drunk while on a slaver ship. And if you're going to hold that against him then I know you're a biased hypocrite who only cares about your fanon version of Regina's childhood and refuses to think about the fact that Killian was sold as a child slave. Liam pulled him out of that life and he was a good sailor in the navy (until the king double crossed them). The next time we see him as a falling down drunk was the season 3 finale when Emma was plying him with alcohol to keep him distracted. He was inebriated when he proposed but he was neither stumbling nor slurring his words.
So my point is: We never see present day Killian Jones drunk when he is needed or shirking his duties because of it. Alcoholism destroys jobs, relationships and your ability to function in life on a weekly if not daily basis. When did Killian do any of that? Again. Having a couple of drinks does not make you an alcoholic.
Furthermore, Hook is over 300 years old. If he STILL had an alcohol problem he’d have succumbed to it by now. But he obviously overcame that addiction since leaving the slave ship. There is nothing in canon about present day Killian Jones to suggest he'd fall back into alcoholism since he has something to live for and isn't being abused on a slave ship.
Just admit you all look for ways to hate on the ship instead of being honest.
Being rude to Emma’s mother and Henry
CLAIM: "Hook was rude to Snow & made a remark about needing a shower. He also snapped at Henry."
So let me get this straight. One joke about taking a cold shower means Killian will be so rude to Snow in the future that it will affect his marriage to Emma? Where is the pattern? It happening one time (I never took this as being rude but hey you’re welcome to the opinion) doesn’t indicate a problem. None of us ever behave perfectly. But apparently Killian Jones has to or else y'all go into hysterics!
I think it’s rather unfair to take one instance, blow it out of proportion, and use it to say CaptainSwan is abusive or will have an abusive marriage. If you don’t think it’s funny, that’s fine. Just acknowledge your bias and move on.
And the thing about Hook snapping at Henry? Again. ONE TIME. And it was under stressful circumstances. It’s not like the frustration was coming out of nowhere. The lives of people he cared about were in danger. And if you know anything about Hook, he hates just sitting still. I mean watch how antsy he was waiting on Merlin to find a way to help Emma. His reaction was 100% wrong. But it was also human.
Do you all know how often Regina puts Snow down? Are you all aware of it? I know you guys like to call it “sass” but clutching your pearls over one joke makes y’all look like hypocrites. I can let one thing slide but you know something is wrong when there is a pattern and Regina has a consistent pattern. She does it all the time. And it’s not even just to Snow! She is rude to Emma’s friends as well and the man Emma is dating. I don’t care if you hate the person your BFF is dating. You don’t put them down. It’s not going to do anyone any good except to hurt the person you profess to care about. And that’s not being a very good friend is it? No.
So I ask you again. Who is more likely to consistently insult Emma’s loved ones in the future? Regina. She has the pattern and the history of doing so. Therefor, strike this off your reasons to hate on CaptainSwan because your queen is just as guilty!
P.S. Rumbellers - don't think you're off the hook here. Be for real. Rumple doesn't value anyone's life except his own (and therefor Belle's because he wants her).
Shifts Blame
CLAIM: “Hook shifts blame from himself to Emma and blames her for not being able to tell her about David’s father”
“I swear to you… I wanted to tell you. I tried. But then you found that ring, and I just couldn't bear to ruin that happiness. Because I was ashamed, Emma, and scared of losing you and everything that matters to me.”
I never took Killian’s line here as him shifting blame. He was not accusing her. His tone was not accusatory. He was explaining to her why he couldn’t bring himself to ruin her happiness. He also goes onto explain how ashamed he was. All of that played a part in him making the wrong decision.
If you want to see this as him shifting blame. Ok. That’s you're right. HOWEVER. Again. To say that this one moment of weakness defines their entire relationship is completely dishonest especially since he totally recognizes his fault and says so the moment he reunites with her. And this is literally the only instance you can find of Killian (possibly) shifting blame.
I also think it’s very disingenuous seeing that he could have continued to blame Emma for everything he did as Dark Hook since she went against his wishes. But he didn’t. He took responsibility for his weakness. So this thing over David’s father is not a normal every day behavior. Y’all act like he’s gonna yell at her about dirty dishes he left in the sink and it’s just absurd. Killian was sincere when he tells her "I could never be angry with you" and he's pretty much lived up to that since his redemption.
Furthermore, have you never been so embarrassed by something you did that you tried to get away from it? What Killian Jones did was a very human reaction to immense guilt.
And then you have Regina Mills. She is the queen of shifting blame and she’s done it more than once. Tried to blame Henry being in the mine on Emma when it was really her fault. The entire Marian arc was about blaming Emma for her own mess. Regina blamed Emma for the wraith chasing Robin Hood. Blames Emma for having to kill Wish Snowing. She NEVER apologizes for any of that. The author only records what happens (only one canon instance where the author abused his powers to manipulate a story and that was Snowing) yet Regina blames the book for the choices she made. Regina blamed Snow for making her the evil queen when Regina chose to do what she did of her own free will. She blames Rumple as well and while Rumple might have handed her the key she chose to take it and open up the door to dark magic. She sought Rumple out. She chose to go down that path. But everyone else gets blamed besides Regina. Cora gets blamed even though she was long gone when Regina sought Rumple out because she admitted to LIKING the dark magic. Hell, for a good portion of S6 they all acted like the evil queen was a separate entity!
Co-dependence
CLAIM: “Killian made Emma co-dependent as she was willing to let her parents die and her brother become an orphan“
WHEN WAS THIS? I don’t think it is S5 otherwise they’d mention Henry. If they are talking about S6 that was Regina… like when I say they project, they project! Emma tried to stop serumQueen. You know who could have easily stopped the serumQueen? Regina. By using her own heart. But she only did that to save Zelena. Regina also could have sacrificed herself to save the very people that are responsible for the 999 chances she's gotten and whose lives she destroyed.
So laying this on Emma is just an outrageous reach especially calling it co-dependent when just last season Emma set out to kill Dark Hook and then made the decision to leave Killian in the Underworld and return to Storybrooke.
You want to talk about co-dependence?
Regina was so damn dependent on Robin and getting her happy ending that she shut Henry out of his occasional home so she could mope. She was so damn dependent on Robin for happiness that she thought about destroying Emma’s happiness with Hook. Regina was so dependent on Robin that she abandoned Emma and their ride BACK TO HENRY to chase Wish Robin after she just got done reassuring Emma that Wish People weren’t real! Kindly STFU.
You want to talk about co-dependence?
Rumple refuses to let Belle go.
Badly treated: manipulation, lies, insults, etc
The only times Killian has ever treated Emma like “trash” is when he was a villain (and she gave it right back to him) and when he was literally cursed by darkness. And no, my little Regina apologists, his Dark One Hook persona is not who he REALLY is. Who he REALLY is, is the man we saw right before being consumed and after. The man who always put Emma first, encouraged her, supported her and believed in her. If you follow canon, it is quite clear that being consumed by darkness changes you and not only that the darkness was pushing for him to hate Emma so that they could separate them and use Killian to get what they wanted.
What really irks me is that if everything Killian said to Emma while a villain or consumed by darkness is reason that redeemed Killian would abuse Emma later in marriage then newsflash hypocrites Regina would do 10x worse. Because even after her supposed redemption Regina insulted Emma and ridiculed nearly ever plan or idea she came up with. Yet it is OK to ship Emma with Regina? So let’s review.
Regina treating Emma like garbage, lying, manipulating, insulting her etc etc BEFORE her redemption:
Regina: I will destroy you if it is the last thing I do.
Regina: …How grateful I am to have Henry. Because not having someone? Well, that’s the worst curse imaginable. (Praying on Emma’s vulnerability)
Blaming Emma for Henry being the mine when it's Regina's fault
Regina: Well, of course not. Because you’re incapable of feeling anything for anyone. There’s a reason you’re alone, isn’t there? (again praying on Emma's vulnerability & shifting blame for emma's life)
Fires Emma from her job. Says she doesn’t deserve the badge.
Regina: Well, I think you picked a really slow horse this time. It’s not like you to back a loser.
That time she published Emma’s jail record; Regina: Oh, I’m sorry. You didn’t want people to know you cut his cord with a shiv?
Snaps at Emma for saving her in a fire
Regina Mills spent the first season trying to turn Henry against Emma
Would have let Emma die but only saved her and Snow in the end because of Henry (s2)
Regina: Because you know so much about parenting in the five minutes you’ve been with him. Talk to David. At least he took care of him while you were away. Like I did, during the ten years you were away the first time. (anti-birth parent rhetoric, victim blaming & diminishing the child abuse she put Henry through)
Regina: Miss Swan. I assume you’re here to apologize. - where the eff is her apology for everything?
Regina: He's not yours. He's mine. And after I cast this, you'll never see him again.
Regina called her an idiot
Dismissing Emma about fearing for Henry in NL (S3)
So surely if all of Killian’s words against Emma before his redemption & during being consumed by darkness is a sign he’d continue long into their marriage then Regina’s insults and ill treatment are a sign she’d do the same? Right?
Oh but wait, Regina’s ill treatment of Emma AFTER her redemption:
Dismissing Emma’s struggle as Dark Swan & acting like she knows more about what’s it like to be consumed by evil when she has never been consumed (5x23)
Acting like she’s the only one to ever lose love (S5, Robin stabbing)
Never once thinking of Emma when Hook died - all she could do is belittle Emma over trying to save him because it effected her yet she did the same thing with Robin & even Daniel!
Wanted her HEA at the expense of others & endangered Henry to get it & also ignored the danger Emma was in to find it (s4 over rewriting the book)
Saying she was Henry’s best chance during the Shattered Sight curse (s4) and that wasn't true
Ignoring Emma’s concerns about Henry and falsely accusing Emma of being jealous (Pan-S3)
Making Emma feel bad about Henry’s tear all because she is jealous she doesn’t know Henry as well as Emma & ignoring how much she hurt Henry (S5 finale)
Regina called Emma a problem (5x01)
Regina stole Emma’s agency because she didn’t trust her to make the right choice whereas Killian insisted it had to be her choice without forcing her.
Regina believed the worse; that Emma would destroy light magic.
Regina blamed Emma right away for the demon. She never apologized (5x02).
THE ENTIRE MARIAN ARC. Regina had Emma doubting in herself when in fact everything that was happening was Regina’s fault.
Calls Emma an idiot again
Regina claims Emma ruined her life
Regina often doubted Emma’s abilities & thought she was more capable and Regina refused to follow her leadership (S3 over the map, S3 over Zelena, S3 over finding Neal who could read the star map, S6 in mirror mirror)
She often used anti-birth mother rhetoric (accusing Emma of being jealous in 3x10, being safer with her in shattered sight curse, S5 finale over Henry & Violet’s favorite song & the sEQ calling herself his real mother).
Swanfire really needs to shut up about this too. Emma and Neal weren’t enemies so their list isn’t as dramatic as SwanQueen and CaptainSwan but it doesn’t mean it isn't bad! And it is bad considering the fact that Neal abandoned her, laughed about her powers, yelled at her for not telling him about Henry AFTER he was the one to walk away from her, let her take the fall for his crimes and then only tried to get her back when it was convenient for HIM.
Rumbellers also have no room to criticize Killian’s past and use it as a way to disparage CaptainSwan because their ship is full of horrible things. Adultery. Liking Belle to an object to have (makes statements that he can have Belle and his power). Lied to her about the dagger then married her anyway. Thinks Belle is ignorant and wants to keep her that way. Literally shackled her with that bracelet to control her.
OutlawQueen can take a seat too. The fact that they committed adultery next to his dying wife's frozen body makes that ship absolutely disgusting. And yes, it counts because they believed her to be his wife. Intent matters. And the fact that Regina never told him the truth or how she wanted to make sure his son never had a mother so she could have Robin. AWFUL.
Hook jumped off a roof just to get Emma to talk to him
Come talk to me when he does this cause she’s on a date with someone else, just sitting around talking to her friends or family or you know otherwise busy and when they aren’t in the middle of a major crisis where everyone could die.
Hook is the Professor of Moodiness 101
Seriously. Wtf is this? They didn’t have enough bullet points I guess? Have they met Regina Mills? Cause Regina is constantly snapping at everyone. I know you all like to laugh and say “she’s just sassy” but that doesn’t make her comments or the tone she says them in any less rude. And no one laughs but you all. And yes, she does this a lot in frustrating moments but it’s all the time compared to Killian’s …what? Two?
Whether you all like it or not Killian Jones's attitude is dramatically different after the S3 winter finale onward. And he improves even more after the s4 winter finale. By the time we get to the last half of Season 5 we are looking at a much more mature Killian Jones being the man he was always meant to be.
But Regina? Regina never loses her attitude. She may have stopped killing. She may have joined team hero to get her happy ending. But she is still rude and extremely self-centered.
Trying to murder friends and loved ones
CLAIM: Family and friends are possessions but Emma’s loved ones are threatened by Killian?? Tried to maliciously kill Emma’s family and friends
I love how they threw “maliciously” in there like there is any other way to try to kill someone? Gotta make it sound more sinister, I guess? Ok Regina Apologist! Whatever floats your boat!
I think this refers to Killian being consumed by darkness which he only did because he was indeed consumed by darkness. So if this is why Killian will abuse Emma in the future then surely Regina’s lifelong goal of killing Emma and the Charmings is also cause to say that she too would abuse Emma in the future? Otherwise I missed all of the plotting he did before and after? He doesn’t have cause to try and kill Emma’s friends or family. He never did. So the only way this would occur is if he’s cursed again.
Regina has reasons to though! Out of jealousy and her want to have Henry to herself! So yes, my little Regina apologist. Regina is more likely to snap later on and decide she’s sick of watching everyone else be happy and create another curse. Just look at how much she wanted to steal Emma’s happiness when she lost Robin? That is after her “redemption” too.
And for you Rumbellers out there, Rumple tried in S4, 5, 6 and 7 to isolate Belle from everyone by killing them off or harming them in some way. And when he finally managed to get her alone, she rapidly aged and died. So really you all have no room to talk about any other ship.
Regina also tried to murder Robin's wife. So OutlawQueen can also scratch this one out. I mean the only reason they're together is because Regina murdered his wife.
CONCLUSION: Regina is more likely to abuse her future partner & Rumbelle is the poster ship for domestic abuse
So heads up OutlawQueen, SwanFire, SwanQueen, Rumbellers or pretty much any ship outside of Snowing... do not come at my ship for things that have nothing to do with the present day relationship when I have plenty of "present time" receipts to make your ship look 10x worse.
CaptainSwan fans ship Emma Swan with the Killian Jones who was the only one to ever put her first, let her make every decision moving forward in their relationship and was the only one to always believe in her.

OUAT Week Day 5: Favorite parallel(s)
Here's a riddle for you.
Once upon a time, there was a man. A father, to be precise, who loved his child with all his heart. The child's mother had left, so the father was the only parent the child had left. One day the father met a man, a pirate, who mocked him for his softness and weakness, for that is what the pirate thought being a loving father was: soft and weak. But the pirate was not unreasonable; he gave the father the chance to prove him wrong. He challenged the father to a duel. But, of course, such a venture was risky, as the father's child was waiting for him back home, and needed him to come home safe.
What did the father say? Did he say no?
Tumblr media
Or did he say yes?

When we first meet Killian Jones in 2.04 "The Crocodile," he takes on the role of the pirate in the story above: the tormentor who believes that putting your child first is worthy of scorn. "A man unwilling to fight for what he wants," he declares, "deserves what he gets" -- an impressive bit of rhetorical theatre that erases the very personhood of Milah and Baelfire both, instead constructing a world that revolves around the figure of the "man" and his success or failure to live up to a hyper-individualist and violent ideal of masculinity. No one else figures into the equation -- not women and certainly not children. To even consider putting fatherhood before being "a man," in Killian's worldview, is nothing but weakness.
By the time 7.13 "Knightfall" rolls around, Killian is now in the role of the father in the story, faced with the choice to duel a pirate and affirm his masculinity through meaningless violence or to go straight home to Alice and free her from the tower without risking his life first. It is no accident that he finds himself in the same situation he once put Rumpelstiltskin in so many years ago. Rather, it is a necessary step in his journey of redemption, growth, and healing.
Like so many other villains and former villains on Once Upon a Time, Killian was once a victim of other people's actions, but over time he has become his own worst enemy. Therefore, it is himself and his own false ideology that he must defeat in order to progress on his journey. So while Captain Ahab is not literally Killian, the way the Split Evil Queen is literally half of Regina or Wish Rumple is literally a version of Rumple, he is metaphorically Killian, and specifically Killian from "The Crocodile."
Captain Ahab makes metatextual sense as a mirror-Killian. Melville's Ahab was a direct inspiration for Barrie's Captain Hook -- in their source texts, both captains lose limbs to sea creatures and dedicate their lives to pursuing revenge against the ones they blame for this loss. And Captain Ahab's name is practically synonymous with obsession and revenge in popular culture. Ahab is revenge made flesh, the originator of the legacy of vengeance and violence that all Captain Hooks are heir to, here to tempt Killian into undoing the work he did in 7.07 "Eloise Gardener" to give up his revenge and his old pirate life behind for the sake of his child.
"Eloise Gardener" is a major turning point for Killian, arguably the biggest one possible. It is the moment where he chooses Alice over his quest for revenge, and in doing so rejects the version of himself who sold Baelfire to Pan, who orphaned and abandoned Liam II, who hated his father and Rumpelstiltskin so much that (as Bae put it) he didn't even realize he had become just like them. In this moment, he chooses not to continue down the path of becoming like his father, instead choosing to identify himself with his mother, who stayed with him "as long as she could." He names his daughter after her; he sings the same lullaby to his infant child that she used to sing to him; he promises to follow her example in staying with his child. He breaks the cycle he's been trapped in for literal centuries.
But that is not the end of the story. Just as Regina choosing Henry over the curse in the 3.09 "Save Henry" flashbacks was not the end of her story. She still had a lot to learn. And so, at this point, does Killian.
Thus, when faced with the same choice Rumple was faced with all those years ago, Killian chooses wrong. Unlike Rumple, he does not swallow his pride and go home to his child, even as Wish Rumple begs and cajoles him to do just that. Wish Rumple has his own self-serving reasons for not wanting Killian to accept the duel, but it is hard not to see him as an echo of the past, urging Killian to make the same choice he himself once made. But Killian doesn't listen. He accepts the duel, choosing the path set for him by Ahab -- his mirror-self, the reflection of the man he once was, his own false ideology that he has yet to truly reckon with. And it costs him everything.
Although he does not die in the duel, the way Rumple surely would have if he'd accepted Killian's challenge, Alice still loses him. A tiny graze from Ahab's bullet permanently poisons his heart and makes it impossible for Killian to stay with his daughter the way he once promised to. It is a profound cruelty on Gothel's part, but perhaps the cruelest part of it is that Killian, like all great tragic heroes, did it to himself. He chose to risk never coming home to his daughter, and that choice in itself ensured he never would. His own twisted ideology has failed him, and he has been forced to confront just how wrong and empty it truly is.
But this is not the end of the story, either. Indeed, in its own way, it is a kind of new beginning. For all that the curse of the poisoned heart is an awful thing for Killian and Alice to endure, Killian's experience with the duel does ultimately change him for the better. Not instantly, for it is hard to change without a support system, especially when you are suffering; but once he has people who have his back, he is able to take the lesson he's learned to heart. What is that lesson? That there is nothing in the world that matters more than one's child; that cleaving children from good parents who love them is nothing but petty cruelty; that being a good father is more important than being "a man" who is willing to "fight for what he wants"; that what he did to Rumple centuries ago was wrong.
Once Killian has learned this lesson, he can overcome his own previous failings as a sort of anti-father figure (or in other words, a Captain Hook -- George Darling's other face, a man whom "no little children love"). Instead of separating families and orphaning children, Killian helps keep families together. He abandons his plan to replace expectant father Storybrooke Hook in 7.02 "A Pirate's Life"; he helps reunite Zelena with Robin Jr. in 7.11 "Secret Garden"; he defends Regina's decision to cast the curse to save Henry in 7.10 "The Eighth Witch"; and, perhaps most touchingly, he gives Jacinda the white elephant to keep her and Lucy together in that same episode, sacrificing his own chance at a life with Alice to do so.
He becomes a living embodiment of loving fatherhood, surpassing not just his past self and his own father but Rumpelstiltskin as well. Indeed, in 7.22 "Leaving Storybrooke", he dies redeeming Rumpelstiltskin's greatest betrayal of Baelfire -- Killian keeps hold of Alice's hand while a portal threatens to separate them even as her very touch kills him, in sharp contrast to Rumple's series-defining moment in 1.19 "The Return" when he lets go of Bae's hand for fear of losing his power. Rumple, in turn, dies redeeming Killian's greatest transgression against Alice -- he gives Killian his heart to replace the one Killian poisoned with his choice to duel Ahab. Rumple, whom Killian taunted when they first met for choosing to get home safe to his son rather than risk his life, gives his life so that Killian can get home safe to his daughter, and in doing so finally heals the wound Killian inflicted on himself all those years ago when he made the opposite choice.
It is a powerful and beautiful ending for Killian and Rumpelstiltskin both: an ending where they redeem themselves by redeeming and healing each other, where they do for Alice what neither could do for Baelfire, where they defeat the ghosts of their past selves for good and pave the way for a better future. And it was all set in motion a long, long time ago -- with a father, a pirate, and an offer to duel.

Emma Swan was truly glad that they were finally on the road and making progress toward their destination. While attempting to leave the previous morning, Elsa had needed to say goodbye to Liam “just once more”, visit the restroom again, and they’d had to rearrange the luggage to fit something else in, as well as call to coordinate with the other members of their friend group numerous times, before they’d actually set out on their travels. Liam needed to lead one more previously scheduled Lake Michigan boat tour before he could follow them from Chicago to Bowling Green, Kentucky.  After a long day of driving, an exuberant reunion with Emma’s dashing and altogether irresistible boyfriend- whom she hadn’t seen in months- and a good night’s sleep in his arms, they were all back on the road again, Liam and Elsa following in his Expedition with Graham and Will in the back seat.
Now that they were rolling down the highway, wheels on the pavement and making good time toward Georgia, she felt much of her frustration melting away. It had been well past time for a break from her job - even loving it as much as she did - and a few hours of girl talk in the car with Elsa. But now having Killian in the seat beside her, their fingers intertwined where hers rested on the gearshift of her vintage yellow VW, made all the difference in the world. Though she wouldn’t want to admit it to most people, her stomach still fluttered at his nearness with all the excitement and joy of their first date, even a year into their relationship.
She had been pleasantly surprised by how easily Killian had acquiesced to being her navigator and co-pilot rather than trying to take over driving duties himself. She had dated a few guys who would have been unwilling to allow her to take control on the road, and would have had their masculinity insulted if she insisted on driving. Killian had simply taken her hand gallantly, bent over it to kiss her knuckles playfully - much as he’d done the first time they’d met - and helped her into her seat, before rounding the front to get into the seat beside her. “As you wish, Emma Love,” he’d agreed gamely. “It is your chariot which awaits us after all.” Since then, he’d proven to be a very apt and helpful navigator, more so than “the Google Woman” whom he had groused at repeatedly for offering them longer trip times and trying to take them on unwanted scenic detours. She couldn’t help but laugh when Killian managed to find a reroute that shaved fifteen minutes from their drive time and then berated the automated navigator proudly.
As glad as she had been having Elsa to keep her company on their way to Lost River Caves to pick up the guys, Emma was thrilled to have a little time with just Killian now.  He launched into some story from a recent tour group they’d seen through the caves, and she marveled again at how seamlessly they had navigated into being a couple - even with the physical distance between them. Warmth swelled in her chest and a small voice in her head whispered just how happy it made her that he was hers and she was his - when not so very long ago she wouldn’t have believed such a thing was possible.
She knew that Elsa was equally glad to be back with Liam, despite being apart for just a few hours. Though her friend and Killian’s older brother were both more quietly reserved in their affection, since they had eloped in the spring, they were nearly inseparable unless parting was absolutely necessary - and only then for as short a time as possible. The other members of their group were easy to spot in Liam’s stuffed-to-the-gills SUV as they all traveled to meet the rest of their friends for David and Mary Margaret’s week long nuptial celebration, culminating with their wedding the following weekend on St. Simon’s Island off the Georgia coast.
For several hours they made decent time, passing from Kentucky to Tennessee and into western Georgia without a hitch. They’d texted back and forth from one vehicle to the other about roadside billboards seen, accompanying commentary that those in the opposite car would enjoy, and when to stop for gas and a restroom break.
Emma was just settling into a calm stretch of highway and feeling as though they had thankfully reached the last leg of the journey, when dark, jagged detritus reared up in her vision spread across all three lanes. Not even sure what it was, Emma let out a shocked cry, veering as best she could without swiping the traffic on either side of her, in an attempt to avoid the worst of whatever had seemingly exploded on the interstate.
“Well done, Lass!” Killian congratulated - a bit too soon as it turned out, when a moment later a loud thump sounded and their tire and the car’s undercarriage undoubtedly made contact with some of the debris Emma had hoped to miss. If the sound hadn’t alerted them, the jolt they felt could not be ignored. Once they were past the area, Killian breathed out a deep sigh, looking back over his shoulder at the road behind them. “I think someone violently blew their tire, Swan. I doubt anyone could have missed that mess entirely; you really are quite the captain.”
“Learned from the best,” she sassed back at him with a wink, rubbing her thumb over the back of his hand affectionately. A moment passed silently as they both calmed down after the alarm of the past few moments. “Still,” she finally added, “just for peace of mind, maybe we should pull over, check the tire pressure, and be sure there wasn’t any damage done the next time we see an exit with a service station.”
“Aye,” Killian agreed. “Good plan. I’ll let the others know.”
Neither of them felt that the car was riding any differently, and Emma accepted that she was probably being overcautious, but the Bug had been with her a long time - longer than any other person or thing, in all honesty - and she wanted to make sure all was as it should be so it could hang in there with her a few years more. Killian texted their intentions to Elsa, got an assurance that the other group would stop as well, and soon they were exiting off the interstate and pulling into a Chevron station, stopping near the air pumps in case they needed them.
Unfortunately, though it hadn’t been apparent on the road, when they pulled into the lot, it was obvious serious damage had been done. Emma hadn’t even made it around the car before Killian was trying to slow her progress, hands gently cradling her shoulders as if to brace her for impact. “Now Swan, don’t get too upset. It’s not as bad as it may look at first.”
She didn’t like the sound of that at all, and coupled with the horrified look on Elsa’s face as their friends had parked alongside them and gotten their own glimpse of Emma’s front passenger tire, it was far from comforting. Nudging her well-meaning boyfriend to the side, Emma rounded her car only to groan and feel an almost irresistible urge to kick the curb repeatedly in frustration. Her tire wasn’t just a little low - it was completely flat! How had they not felt that?!? How had they managed to avoid wrecking her beloved Beetle?
“Great! Now what?” She couldn’t help the snap in her voice as she threw up her hands and let them slap back down against her jean-clad thighs exasperatedly. “We’re due to meet everyone at our rental cottage in two hours. I never paid to join AAA, so it’ll cost a fortune to get anyone else out here to tow us to a repair shop - if they even come within the next century! And - ” She was just gathering up steam to continue on her rant, when she looked around her, realizing that everyone else looked either pitying, rather bemused, or down right biting back laughter at her expense.
“Ya do know we could just change the tire ourselves, don’tcha?” Will suggested cheekily, shrugging as if it wasn’t any big deal.
“You say that like it’s so easy,” Emma grumbled, narrowing her eyes at him. “The jack never wants to work right, or the lugnuts are screwed on too tightly to remove by hand - not to mention that my cheap little doughnut spare is hardly what we want to be driving on for long.”
“It ain’t all that difficult neither,” Will insisted, giving her a more genuine smile, and taking in the other guys in turn as if to garner their agreement. Killan wasn’t about to get in the middle of this little debate, nor would he side against his lovely Swan, but not hearing much support had yet to deter Will Scarlet when he got an idea in his head. He stepped right up to the passenger side, with a “Budge over, won’t cha?” to Emma, before crouching down for a closer look and then asking for the wrench to begin loosening the lug nuts.
Well used to Will’s good intentioned but often accident prone brand of assistance, Elsa looked to Emma uncertainly from where she stood, cell phone in hand, rather surprised at having had Will brush past her and move into action. “Should I still call for a tow, just in case?” she asked meekly.
Graham snorted and shook his head, sharing a grin with Killian as he spoke up. “No, don’t worry over it yet. Will might just manage this, and we’re all here to help if he needs it.”
The Jones brothers nodded their consensus, even as Will let out an indignant, “Oi! Some friends the lot of you are! Try to do something nice for a person, and this is the thanks I get? No one even believes I can change a tire!”
Shaking his head and muttering to himself, he put each of the lug nuts into Emma’s waiting hand, while Killian went to fetch the spare tire from her trunk, despite his supposed unbelief in his friend’s capabilities. Rolling the tire with him, he brought the jack to Will, who slid it under the car’s frame to what seemed the appropriate spot. Soon the car was rising, one slow increment at a time, Will now carrying on to himself about the cheap manufacture of the jack in Emma’s kit and how awkwardly constructed the jack’s crank was for anyone to operate.
Suddenly, without warning, there was a frightening screech that brought yelps of surprise and dismay from all of them. The car lurched sickeningly back and to the right and then to the ground, landing precariously with the wheel sticking out and only partially off the lugs which held it in place. If the sight had looked pathetic before, it was now even more so.
“Will!” Emma yelled before she could stop herself. “You’re making things worse!”
Will picked himself up from where he’d ended up on his backside, rubbing the tender spot where he’d landed atop the discarded wrench when he’d quickly moved to avoid being hit by the shifting vehicle. He shot Emma a rather grumpy look. “Well your precious classic isn’t exactly a model of perfection anymore. The wheel didn’t come off as smoothly as it might’ve. This flimsy excuse for a jack is a piece of junk! Bloody thing bent and that’s what made the car fall!” he snarled back.
At this point, Killian took pity on his mate and crouched down beside him to help. Between the two of them, they cranked the jack back down, managed to reposition it further under the car’s chassis and cranked it up once more, finding they could get it even just a little bit higher. This time, with Killian carefully bracing the jack so it wouldn’t shift, Will managed to wrangle the ruined tire from the VW and get the spare into place. All of them cheered heartily, along with letting out several deep breaths of relief, and Will’s friends were all patting him on the back in turn.
After that, they managed to avoid any more mishaps and were finally able to get on the road again. Emma even gave Will a quick hug and apologized for snapping at him, giving him a teasing kiss on the cheek and declaring him her knight in tarnished armor.
“And what about me, Swan? I did have some role in his eventual success,” Killian prompted as they got back into the car and began to carefully back out of their parking spot. He waggled his eyebrows at her mischievously, tapping two fingers against his lips and waiting in expectation. “Perhaps some gratitude might be in order?”
She was tempted to tease him back, make him wait until they arrived at their final destination, but she was too relieved to be back on the road and with her dearly loved VW still in one piece to hold out on him. Leaning over the console briefly, she gave him a quick peck on the lips, brushing her nose along his cheek for a moment and smiling warmly. “Hold onto that thought for later,” she purred. “And thank you too, of course -  my real hero.”

“Oh, isn’t it beautiful?!” Mary Margaret exclaimed as David pulled into the driveway of their home for the next week. They’d just dropped off Belle and Ruby at the cottage next door, after driving the past two days from Portland, Maine and then New York City, where Ruby lived. With all the actual wedding preparations on her plate, Mary Margaret was ever so grateful that David had been in charge of the logistics of their respective annual guys and girls trip this year. Since they were planning a summer wedding with all of their friends comprising the wedding party, Mary Margaret had the idea for them to join their two respective groups again - to commemorate how they all met the previous summer - before marrying the love of her life at the end of the week. Mary Margaret hadn’t even seen pictures of  the rental David had reserved for them, and she was blown away by the quaint romanticism of the cottage in front of her.
Tumblr media
Fairy lights were draped along the eaves of the wraparound front porch, which boasted plentiful seating, in addition to the wicker sectional around a romantic firepit next to the driveway where they were parked. They climbed the steps to the porch and typed in the code to unlock the door. Mary Margaret gasped as they stepped inside. The interior was just as lovely as the exterior. Soaring ceilings and tall windows coupled with nautical and beach decor in soft blues and warm creams created a space that was as inviting as it was relaxing. To the left of the door they’d just entered was an open air kitchen and eat-in dining area, while on their right was the living room, with two bedrooms and a bath in between them on the other side of the large welcoming space.
Tumblr media
“How do you like it, Sweetheart?” David asked, a wide smile on his face. He knew his bride well enough to know that she’d love just about anywhere he picked as long as they were together, but he felt his heart skip a little as he finally laid eyes on the charming bungalow.
“I love it!” she exclaimed, spinning toward him and hugging him tightly. “It’s so light and airy with all this room.” She released him and moved into the kitchen area. “Coffee maker, gas stove, microwave,” she listed, opening and closing the cabinets to see how stocked the kitchen was. She was pleased to find plenty of dishes, condiments, and pots and pans for cooking. Not to mention the terribly organized junk drawer filled with all the unthought of but sometimes necessary things that come up occasionally - scissors, twist ties, Ziploc bags, a small sewing kit, pens, and pads of paper.
Tumblr media
“Our room is over the garage,” David informed her. “Come on.”
She followed him out the side door of the kitchen into the garage and was immediately greeted with a closed door on the other side of a very small landing. David opened the door and they ascended the stairs to the room above. Mary Margaret gasped again when they entered the room. Small lamps on either side of the king-sized bed cast the room in a soft warm glow. Scattered across the cream colored bedspread were red and pink rose petals with a string of pink lights draped from the four posts at the corners of the bed. There was a crystal vase on the low dresser across from where they stood filled with red roses next to a silver tray with an ice bucket holding a bottle of champagne and twin flutes.
Mary Margaret launched herself into David’s arms, kissing him passionately. Given that they were the first ones to the cottage and no one else was expected for at least a couple of hours, she drew him further into the room, determined to show him just how much she loved him and how ready she was to be his wife.
~*~*~
Mary Margaret descended the stairs some time later, to find Robin, Regina, and Roland entering the cottage. Loud exclamations of joy and delight came from the ladies as they rushed toward each other and embraced. Robin grinned as he held Roland back for a moment from joining the heartfelt reunion. As soon as the friends released one another, he let go of his son, who ran as fast as his small legs could carry him to all but tackle Mary Margaret.
“Aunty M’s!” he cried, as she picked him up and spun around with him in her arms.
“Hi there, Roly Poly,” she said, hugging him tightly.
“I hear a little boy in my cottage!” David’s voice boomed as he descended the stairs. “Where’s my Roland?”
“Uncle David!” Roland cried, squirming to get down.
David laughed and picked up the small boy. “You act like you haven’t seen me in a month instead of a few days,” he said.
Roland shrugged. “I’m just happy to see you and Aunty M’s.”
David smiled fondly at Mary Margaret. “We’re happy to see you too, Roly Poly.” He ruffled Roland’s curls and put him down, approaching Robin and Regina to exchange enthusiastic hugs and handshakes. “Y’all’s room is back here. I’ll show you,” he said, turning the corner out of the kitchen and down a short hallway to the master bedroom. He flipped on the lights and let the others precede him into the large room.
“You should have the master,” Robin protested. “It’s your wedding after all.”
David shook his head. “We wanted the room above the garage so we wouldn’t have to worry about disturbing anyone else. Plus, this room had the child’s bed in here,” he said, motioning to the huge walk-in closet that not only had plenty of room for clothes and shoes, but also housed a small bed and dresser. “I didn’t figure you’d want to be too far from him at night.”
“You guessed correctly,” Robin replied. “Where’s the rest of the group? Shouldn’t they be here by now? I thought they were leaving earlier than we were.”
“Emma got a flat and that put them behind just a bit. I think they’ll be here in about an hour.”
Regina exchanged a nervous glance with Robin. “Oh, man…” she trailed away uncertainly. “We’ve been putting Roland off stopping for food the last couple of hours, promising him we’d get dinner with everyone once we arrived. Adding another hour - or more - might be a bridge too far.”
“Roland,” Robin said, poking his head in the closet to find his son jumping up and down on the bed contained within. He immediately stopped, a guilty look on his face when his father appeared and frowned at him. “You know better than that, young man. It’s dangerous. And besides, this bed is not yours. It belongs to the person who owns this cottage. You do anything to damage any of the furniture and you will be in big trouble. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, Papa.”
Robin nodded. “Everyone else won’t be here for about another hour. Can you wait that long for dinner, or do you want a snack?”
He climbed down from the bed and took Robin’s hand. “A snack, please.”
“Alright, let’s go, then.”
Killian and Emma arrived not quite an hour later. Killian, trying mightily to contain his laughter and failing miserably, told them that Liam and Elsa were next door, dropping off Will and Graham. As he and Emma were pulling into this driveway, they could see Will, carrying his luggage, hadn’t time to brace himself before Belle threw herself at him, toppling him in the process. He’d landed on his butt again, but Killian didn’t think he minded all that much as he returned Belle’s ardent kisses.
It was just a few minutes later that Liam and Elsa arrived. After another round of enthusiastic greetings, with Mary Margaret and Regina exclaiming over the beautiful wedding ring set Liam and Elsa wore, the newcomers adjourned to their respective rooms to unpack and relax for a little while before regrouping to decide where to go for dinner.
Mary Margaret came back to the bedrooms containing the other two couples almost thirty minutes later. She was about to knock on the door on the left when she heard Liam and Elsa talking in low voices inside.
“Should we say anything yet?” Elsa asked.
“I don’t think so,” Liam replied. “This week is to celebrate David and Mary Margaret. I don’t think we should take away from that. We can announce it after the wedding.”
Mary Margaret’s eyes got wide and her brow furrowed in thought. What could Elsa and Liam’s secret be, and was it good news or bad? From the tone of their voices, she couldn’t help but speculate that it was good. A smile grew on her face as she imagined the possibilities.
“Time to circle up and decide where we want to eat dinner,” she called, knocking on one bedroom door and then the other. “Come on.” She turned around and went back into the living room to find the rest of their group sitting around waiting for the last two couples.
She entered to uproarious laughter, Ruby grinning unrepentantly, and Graham’s face aflame. “What’d I miss?” she asked, sitting on the arm of the chair David was in.
“Will here was complaining about the noise,” Ruby began, her eyes dancing mischievously, “and I was just explaining that we were only doing what the sign said. Did you all see the Speed Hump sign just before the cottage? Since we had some time before coming over to decide about dinner… we did.” She shrugged nonchalantly. “And it’s not like you were twiddling your thumbs and trying to plug your ears while we were busy, anyway,” she said to Will, causing both he and Belle to blush furiously. Everyone howled again, Mary Margaret, Emma, Killian, Liam and Elsa - who’d just arrived in the room - included.
“What’s so funny?” Roland asked, coming in.
Regina tried to put on a serious face and motioned him over, picking him up and placing him on her lap. “Nothing, baby. Don’t you worry about it. Now, where are we going to eat? I don’t know about the rest of you, but I do not want to have to drive far.”
“And I’m liable to fall asleep before we get our food if we don’t go very soon,” Elsa added, smothering a yawn with her hand.
Fortunately, David had already done some research, and from print and online reviews, as well as word of mouth, he’d found a well-loved island gem right around the corner from the cottages that apparently wasn’t to be missed.
They all agreed and left to pile into the respective vehicles.
~*~*~
It was a pleasant evening with a cool, gentle breeze blowing as they pulled into the parking lot of the Southern Soul Bar-B-Q and began walking toward the entrance. As they came around to the front of the white painted brick structure, Regina pulled up short, bringing Robin to a stop as well since their hands were joined. “Wait just one second,” she spoke up, her polished voice expressing the exact measure of disdain which served her so well as a practicing lawyer. “This is the famed establishment you’ve been talking about?” she addressed David with arch disbelief. “I am not about to sit down for a good meal in what looks more like a gas station than anything else!”
The rest of them paused, not sure how to counter her logic. The place’s appearance from the outside didn’t quite look like what any of them had expected, but the rest of them were generally a lot more easy going in their tastes and were willing to trust the local reputation and let their taste buds, rather than their eyes be the judge.
Robin, however, had clearly learned how best to proceed with his regal girlfriend in the time since they had all been together last. He moved closer to Regina, whispering low, cajoling words in her ear, and though the rest of them couldn’t make them out, the tone was clearly doing its job at melting her usually rather inflexible demeanor. And if that hadn’t been enough, there was the added secret weapon of little Roland. When Robin’s young son tugged on her hand, urging sweetly with his open, dimpled smile and adoring brown eyes gazing up at her, there was no way even her sophisticated queen persona could hold out against his, “Come on, Miss Gina, let’s try it! I think it looks like fun.”
Between the two Locksley men turning their charm on her, Regina finally capitulated and followed the rest of them inside.
Despite any initial reservations, they were presented with a feast of authentic Southern sides like Brunswick stew, Hoppin’ John, and hushpuppies to accompany the variety of brisket, pulled pork and ribs they ordered. Will had insisted on trying the Knuckle Sammich, and Regina had finally settled on a chicken strip basket similar to the child’s version they got Roland, deeming it unlikely she’d be able to order much of anything else which wouldn’t have either sauce or juice dripping off of it.
It wasn’t long before Ruby and Graham drew attention to their end of the table when he attempted to feed her brisket by hand. She’d stared him down sultrily, a glimmer of seduction in her dark eyes before delicately nibbling the morsel he offered her. All would have been fine if she’d stopped there, but that wasn’t Ruby’s style. Instead she’d held her boyfriend’s gaze and then wrapped her bright red lips around his fingers, bringing her tongue into the action as well, and slowly dragging them along his calloused skin as if enjoying a succulent treat. Graham flushed all over as red as her signature shade and seemed to be having a little trouble even drawing breath. He’d started a fire that he wasn’t capable of keeping under control, and clearly he knew it. Sputtering for some sort of response, he quickly pulled his hand away when Ruby released him, glancing around nervously as if afraid their friends might be judging them. “I know I sorta asked for that, Babe,” he murmured under his breath, “but there’s a kid at the table, for crying out loud!”
Unabashed, Ruby merely shrugged her shoulders at him, and grinned at the table as a whole. Her friends knew her well, and were largely unfazed by her brazen behavior at this point.
Nearly an hour later, they were stuffed and ready for home and their beds. David laughingly joked that Mary Margaret would have to roll him back to their rental to sleep off the meal, but it was a delicious close to day one of their reunion.

Welcome to our 2024 Girls' Trip fic! This year, as I'm sure you've already deduced, Krystal, Joni, Marta, and Jen travelled to St. Simons Island, Savannah, and Jekyll Island, Georgia. Along the way, we met up at various times with Giennie and Randi as well. When a group of fic writers get together, naturally, every event is seen through the lens of "how can we fic this?" While normally we'd be looking for ways to turn our adventures into Captain Swan stories alone, we had a lot of characters to work with this year! (Truth be told, most moments were seen through the lens of "How can we comically whump Will with this?" or "What kind of innuendo would Ruby make about that?") As last year, we'd like to give you some idea of what we took from our actual experiences and what we chalked up to creative license.
While a small detail in the fic, the need for creative packing was real with us! It took Jen, her dad and Joni (with Bear supervising) to figure it out on the way there and Krystal and her family (with Minnie supervising) on the way home.
You might think Killian’s frustration with the “Google woman” was a call back to his lack of knowledge of technology in canon, but it was indeed a factor in our trip. Jen’s GPS seemed to have a mind of its own and routinely offered alternate routes that added significant time to the drive.
Regrettably, the “driving disaster” was rather close to real life. On the way to Savannah, Jen was not able to avoid the debris from a blown semi tire strewn across all three lanes and got a flat as a result. Joni tried valiantly to come to the rescue and change the tire, but the jack did, indeed twist and the car fell. Luckily a couple of Good Samaritans helped us out and got us back on the road, all in one piece. (And Jen’s new vehicle seems no worse for the wear.)
The description of the rental house was true to life–with a bit of creative license taken. As there were four of us and the cottage had four bedrooms, we didn’t rent a second cottage. Marta stayed in the room we gave David and Mary Margaret, but in reality it had two queen sized beds rather than one, and there were no rose petals or romantic candle light. The walk-in closet of the master bedroom contained a high chair and changing table rather than a child’s bed for Roland.
There was indeed a sign warning of Speed Humps on the road in front of our cottage. Naturally, we decided Ruby would run with that.
Southern Soul B-B-Q is a real restaurant only a couple miles from our rental that is apparently highly acclaimed, but we never made it there on our trip. We were struck by the fact that it clearly used to be a gas station and decided Regina would balk at that.
Thank you for reading and sharing! We'd love to know what you think! Stay tuned for day two of the character's adventures posting on Thursday. In the next chapter, they explore St. Simons Island.

Still A Sunbeam
Summary: As a child, Elain Archeron is pushed into a pond by the heir to the Day Courts throne, Lucien Spell-Cleaver, and vows she'll never forgive him for it. But as an adult, Elain finds that if she wants out of an arranged marriage to a Spring Court prince, she will need Day Court's help. More is at stake than a decades-old rivalry, and when their home is threatened, Elain and Lucien will have to set aside old differences and work together

Cadmus’s grip on Elain’s wrist was iron clad as he pulled her through the silent halls. Drawing a steady breath, Elain forced herself not to think about what she’d just done or who was trailing right behind her. Killian had seen her, and no matter what Eris told the world, Spring was always going to know the truth of the matter—the High Lord’s death was the fault of two Day Court females.
Helion was going to kill her.
“Cadmus,” Elain began, breathless with fear. Maybe she should ask him to say. Facing down Lucien and his family, who had only ever been kind, only to tell him she’d likely dragged them into war, was Elain’s nightmare.
She’d forgotten about Killain for one blissful second. Just long enough for him to surge forward and grab for her, too.
“She needs to come with me,” he said, yanking so hard Elain stumbled, nearly hitting the floor. A warning snarl rumbled from Cadmus who reached for his sword when he saw Elain was now in Killian’s grip. “I can shield her. We’ll marry and—”
“If you put your hands on her again, I will cut them off. Elain Archeron has asked me for sanctuary, and I have granted it,” Cadmus growled, unsheathing his blade. “You will take her nowhere.”
Killian, wide eyed and speechless for perhaps the first time in life, gripped Elain by her shoulders. “They will put you on trial, Elain. How could you ask that of these—” Another snarl killed whatever insult Killian had been about to offer up. “Is it so awful, the prospect of marrying me, that you would choose death instead?”
“What makes you think I would let anything happen to her?” Cadmus demanded. Elain knew what was coming. She had to just tell Killain the truth, to be brave and admit that Cadmus was helping her because she was his brother's mate. She could see the conclusion Killian was drawing, eyes bouncing from the silver pointed sword and the violence etched over Cadmus’s handsome features.
“What did you promise him—”
“Not him,” Elain interrupted breathlessly. “His brother. Lucien. He—”
Killain’s fingers dug rougher against her shoulder, likely bruising her sensitive skin. “He what?”
Cadmus pried Killain’s fingers from Elain’s body, sword pointed at Killian’s throat.
“I’m not afraid to kill you, prince. Your worthless brothers would likely thank me for it. Do not put your hands on her ever again.”
“HE WHAT, ELAIN?”
Elain let Cadmus shove her behind his back before saying, “He’s my mate! And I’m going…I’m going home to him.”Cadmus looked over his shoulder, brows raised. “Aright,” he said, a smile cracking his once furious features. “Anything else, little sister.”
Killain looked as though Elain had personally stabbed him. Cadmus put his sword away, lacing his fingers through Elain’s. “You never even asked me,” Elain managed to get out, her anger threatening tears again. “Not once did you ever even ask if I liked you.”
“Oh, and I’ll bet he does?” Killain sneered, though there was no real ire to his words. It was merely exhaustion lacing his tone, making his green eyes seem so much sadder than she’d ever seen them.
“Yes,” Elain replied, missing Lucien so much it made her teeth ache. She wished it was him, and not Cadmus who was keeping her steady. “Yes, he does.”
“Time to go,” Cadmus muttered, yanking her down the hall before another fight erupted between Elain and Killain. Elain let Cadmus jerk her away, not daring to look behind her. “For what it’s worth, I thought that was brave.”
“Just take me home,” she whispered. Killian still knew. If he was petty, he’d tell every other court what she’d done, forcing Helion to release her into the hands of a tribunal. Assuming, of course, Helion didn’t call it himself. He was one of two courts that were supposed to be neutral—Day and Summer, specifically—which meant he could imprison her while waiting for the other High Lords to decide her fate.
Eris wouldn’t vote against her, surely. But the others…? Elain wasn’t sure. And as Cadmus led her toward the entrance of the Forest House where he could safely winnow her out, she wasn’t even sure Lucien would side with her. Maybe he’d be furious with her. All those lessons in which he stressed how important diplomacy was, wasted in one foolish, impulsive moment.
Elain wished she regretted her decision, but all Elain regretted was the position she’d put everyone else in. As far as Beron went, well…good riddance. The world was surely better off without him? High Lord or not, he was a terrible, cruel man and Elain hoped he was being punished by the mother for a life poorly lived.
Cool, autumn air whipped around Elain’s face. “I’ll take you to Day Court,” Cadmus told Elain, reaching for her face so she had to look at him. Of all his brothers, he looked the most like his now dead father. Cadmus wore those handsome features well. There was light in his eyes, kindness in his features. “And I’ll stay while you tell Lucien what happened. If…look, Elain, you have a place here. A safe place. If my brother reacts poorly, ask me for sanctuary and I will be honor bound to provide it—”
“Why? Why would you risk yourself for me?”
“You don’t know what he was like,” Cadmus breathed, swallowing hard. “Eris isn’t going to let you claim that kill. No matter what Killian says he saw, it's his word versus the High Lord and his wife. Eris is going to claim that kill as his own. That’s how things are done in Autumn Court. So you tell Lucien the truth, and if he wants to imprison you, I will bring you back. Do you understand?”
Elain nodded her head, a tear sliding down her face. It was all so wrong. “I understand,” she whispered. Elain expected Cadmus to take her home. But there, standing beneath twinkling stars and the rustling, dark treetops of Autumn, the prince yanked Elain against his chest for a strong armed hug.
“Thank you,” he whispered into her hair, so soft she might have imagined it. Elain hugged back, leaning into Cadmus’s strength. She’d need it for what was coming. Cadmus’s winnow smelled like a crackling fire, comforting for the brief, crushing moment she was trapped in that wind. The chill of Autumn vanished, replaced with the humidity of Day.
Elain felt like she could breathe again. Inhaling sharply, Elain let Cadmus take her toward the looming, moonlit palace still burning bright despite the late hour. Perhaps a party, she thought, plodding up the steps with a sense of dread. Elain didn’t make it far—Lucien met her just at the top, armed to the teeth in golden armor with a fluttering, red cape slung casually over one broad shoulder.
Behind him, a line of guards also halted when he raised one broad hand. Did he know, then? Elain swallowed, frozen beside Cadmus who kept a hand on the hilt of his sword, the other on Elain’s shoulder.
Lucien took a dangerous step toward them, burning so bright he might have been a living candle. She’d never seen that kind of heat radiating from him, never seen the light that was always present just beneath his skin flare the way it was now. Lucien looked as though he were just keeping a lid on his power.
“What,” he began, looking not at her, but at his brother, “did you do to my mate?”
Too late, Elain had forgotten she was still covered in the blood of the High Lord. Cadmus rolled his eyes. “I’ve returned her to you, safe and sound.”
“She’s injured—”
“I’m fine,” Elain breathed, stepping between the two males before a fight broke out on Helion's step. “The blood isn’t mine.”
Lucien held her gaze, so utterly still it scared her. Pressing her hand against his armored chest, Elain added, “Your brother helped me.”
“So bloodthirsty,” Cadmus added from behind her. “You’re one of us whether you like it or not. She certainly is. Remember what I said to you, Elain Archeron. Sanctuary—it’s yours without having to ask.”
Lucien snarled, but Cadmus was already gone, popping away without so much as a goodbye. It left Elain to face down Lucien, unsure if he had been coming to rescue her or imprison her.
“Why do you need sanctuary in Autumn?” Lucien asked, his tone softening. He reached for her face, cupping her cheek in one broad, gloved hand. Behind him, the soldiers who had been prepared to march with him to war melted away, vanishing back into the palace to give the prince privacy. “Whose blood are you wearing, my love?”
Elain took a breath. “Beron Vanserras.”
Lucien paused. This was it. This was the moment he’d decide how much she—and their mating bond—truly meant to him. Lucien was a consummate diplomat and bound by the same laws that governed his father. He was, she thought miserably, a fair prince who was likely weighing her life against the safety of his people, his territory.
“Did you…?”
“Eris helped,” she whispered, unable to look at him for a moment longer. “And Arina, who I think isn’t coming back.”
Lucien exhaled a breath. “Eris won’t let you claim that kill.”
She looked back up at him, surprised to find not anger or disappointment, but admiration shining on his face.
“Killian saw me.”
Lucien swore softly, pulling her into his body the way his brother had done mere moments before. “It’s his word against the High Lords. And I suspect Killian has bigger problems to worry about than you.”
“Lucien, I killed a High Lord. I should…shouldn’t I…be punished?”
“You did this world a favor,” he disagreed fiercely, mouth pressed into her messy hair. “They can try and take you from me, and they’ll die for their trouble. Come inside, Elain. Let me…let me take care of you.”
A soft sob ripped out of her. “I thought you’d be angry with me.”
“Is that why Cadmus offered you sanctuary?” Lucien murmured, fingers dipping beneath her chin to tilt her face toward him. “You thought I’d want to see you punished for killing the male I’ve longed dreamt of killing?”
“Yes,” she whispered, hating the soft tremble in her voice. “It’s a crime—”
“I only love you more,” he whispered, mouth ghosting over her own. “And even if you’d killed every member of the royal family—my brothers included—I would fight a war to keep you here. I thought you knew that.”
“I…” Elain didn’t know what to say to any of that. Instead, she surged upward on her tiptoes, pressing her lips to his. “Were you coming for me?”
“Yes. It’s a bad week to be a High Lord and I wasn’t willing to take a chance when it came to you.”
“Lucien—”
“Tell me how you did it,” Lucien whispered, sweeping her up off her feet in his gleaming, golden armor. Elain was breathless, practically giddy as he walked her back into the palace. “Did he suffer?”
“Yes,” she murmured, kissing the exposed skin of his neck. “For a moment…before Eris severed his head from his shoulders.”
“Do I want to know Arina’s part in all this?” Lucien asked, ignoring the guards that waited just inside the entrance. Nor did Lucien track down his father like she’d expected he might, so they could explain her role in all this.
“Probably not. Lucien, what are you going to do if Killian tells people what I’ve done?”
“Lie,” he replied smoothly, his steps quick as he took her back to his bedchamber. “Lie through my teeth, deny you had any involvement, and if none of that works, pull out my sword and dare him to try and take you from me.”
“He knows,” Elain said, mouth back on Lucien’s neck. He shuddered.
“You’ve said—”
“About the mating bond. He knows. I think he scented it, but before I left, I told him.”
Lucien exhaled noisily. “I’ll bet that went well.”
She shrugged. “At least it’s done. And when he tells the High Lord—”
“He won’t. Well—he can’t. Tamlin is High Lord, now. Killian will be lucky to survive the night once he returns home, and if Tamlin is smart, he’ll eliminate his last brother.”
Lucien set Elain onto his bed, unconcerned by the dried blood still clinging to her skin and hair. Elain was left reeling as Lucien reached for the straps and chains of his armor, discarding it now that it was no longer necessary for him to march on Autumn. She tried to picture it—Lucien sweeping in moments after Beron was murdered, armed to the teeth and prepared to kill his own brothers.
For her.
“How?”
Lucien glanced over, his expression tight. “A feud between Night—”
“Feyre?”
“She’s fine. She—this wasn’t about her. The High Lords of those territories have been fighting longer than we’ve been alive, and likely would have continued to fight long after we died. Feyre was merely a pretense, but this was planned likely long before your sister fled, and would have happened even if she’d agreed to marry Tamlin.”
“Who is dead?”
“Everyone,” Lucien murmured, rolling his neck as though it was of little consequence to him. “The High Lord and his wife…everyone but Killian and Tamlin. The Night Court has lost their High Lord, and well as the Lady and daughter. And now Autumn…I’m sure every other High Lord in Prythian is sleeping nervously tonight.”
“Your father—”
“Safe,” Lucien said, kicking off his boots with a heavy thud. He was down to only the linens he wore beneath the heavy armor, conforming to his muscular frame so tightly that Elain could see every grove and dip. “There are extra patrols around the city, and the borders are being monitored. It’s how we knew Cadmus had come in—Day has been spelled against intruders, at least for the time being.”
“But…but you’re safe?”
Lucien’s smile was the loveliest thing she’d seen in days. “I am now. You’re home. That’s all I wanted.”
He came to her, tugging off his tight, white shirt and tossing it to the floor. Elain reached for him, thinking she ought to make him put her in the bath. Lucien, it seemed, had the same idea.
“Can I clean you up?” he asked, mouth ghosting her cheek. Lucien’s tongue slid down her jaw toward her neck, his fingers fisting in her hair so her neck arched upward.
“Yes,” she breathed, though what she truly meant was no.
Covered in blood or not, Elain knew one thing with absolute certainty.
She was accepting their bond—tonight.
LUCIEN:
Lucien Spell-Cleaver was being driven out of his mind. The sight of his mate covered in blood ought to have disgusted him. Horrified him, even. Maybe it was instinct—the animal he’d once been rearing its stupid head in interest, scenting blood and wanting more. Or maybe it was knowing it was his mate who ended the cycle of violence Beron Vanserra had kept his family trapped in.
Lucien kissed her, groaning when he tasted copper on her mouth, mingled with her usual sweetness. He was going to take it too far. Lucien knew that the minute he crawled up the bed, laying atop Elain who was perched sideways, her legs dangling off the edge. Had it really only been a day? It felt like a lifetime since he’d last been with her.
Elain didn’t push him off her, giving Lucien access to her open mouth and her body, still splattered with blood. Lucien liked the sight of her like this—vicious and sweet, all at once.
Just for him. No one else saw her like this, would ever have her like he was. Not even Killian, who was going home to a ruined court, his brother newly crowned High Lord, and without the female he’d always dreamed of marrying.
It felt like justice to Lucien.
Bath, his stupid brain reminded him. Take her to the bath.
Maybe he’d just undress her, first. He could peel her out of her clothes and then he’d take her to the bathroom, where he was certain he’d display an embarrassing lack of self-control. Just like now, fingers tugging at the laces of her dress while Elain pulled the braids from his hair without meaning to. Their mouths moved hungrily, with the sort of heat he’d long been dreaming of.
This was happening. She was going to take him—all of him—and when it was over, Lucien hoped she might seal it with some food.
Lucien gave up on the laces, pulling his mouth off her just long enough to rip the fabric clean in half. Elain gasped, elbowing her way further up the bed so he could pull it from beneath her and throw it to the floor. While he did, she unclasped her under things, removing them, too. It left her half blood stained, half smooth, unblemished perfection. Blood on her arms, her breasts untouched. Lucien didn’t know why the sight of her made him feel as wild as it did, only that his control was rapidly fraying and if he didn’t get inside her, he was going to lose his mind.
“Look at you,” he whispered as she reached for his shoulders. Elain yanked him against her, their bodies separated by only his pants, too tight against his overheated skin. “You used to hate me.”
“I might still, if you don’t stop talking,” she breathed before kissing him again. She was so clever with her tongue, stroking it over his own until Lucien was panting and grinding his rigid cock against her. He was close to begging.
Please, Elain, please— Maybe he spoke the words out loud, because Elain said, “Take me, Lucien. I’m yours.”
He didn’t realize she’d undone his pants until she was yanking them over his hips, legs spread wide. It was happening. Lucien’s mind went suddenly quiet, only focused on her hands sliding down his lower stomach, curling against the base of his cock. Arousal perfumed the air, thick and heady as Lucien tried—and failed—to think of something helpful.
Wasn’t she supposed to taking a bath?
Lucien licked the column of her throat, tasting the copper and salt of her skin. She’d managed to get his pants to his knees, a feat given he was unable to keep himself still long enough to help her. Kicking them the rest of the way off, Lucien positioned himself between her legs. The slickness of her body hit him like a bolt of lightning.
“Are you sure?” he whispered against her neck, nipping just behind her ear.
“Stop talking, Lucien,” she replied, lifting her hips in invitation. She was new, he reminded himself, chanting the words over and over in his head so when he began to inch his way into her perfectly tight, warm body, he wouldn’t be tempted to slam himself fully in. If Elain didn’t enjoy herself, she wasn’t going to accept. And if she didn’t accept, Lucien thought he might die.
Certainly, Lucien’s self control was tenuous at best. With each new inch, the urge to give in to his base urges ripped through him until he was trembling.
But fully seated inside her.
Elain panted, eyes wide, pupils blown out until the pretty brown of her eyes had all but vanished.
“Do you like it?” he asked, though what he was really asking was do you like me?
“Yes,” she breathed, squeezing so tight around him Lucien’s lungs expelled all the air they’d been holding.
“And this?” he managed, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple. Lucien rolled his hips, drawing a soft moan from Elain’s lips.
“Yes,” she whispered, looking up at him with such trust. Lucien wasn’t certain he deserved it, though the gods knew he wanted to. Lucien pushed again, bracing the majority of his weight against his wrists in an attempt not to crush her. It wouldn’t always be this way, he reminded himself. Once she grew accustomed to him, they could have each other the way they wanted—with wild, unyielding abandon.
Between them, the cord that tethered their souls began to solidify, humming some ancient song Lucien would have recognized anywhere. With each new thrust, the link between them began stronger, made of shimmering, unbreakable gold. It was making him insane, robbing him of all his good sense. Elain, too, seemed to be falling beneath the spell of the mating bond.
Lucien could hear himself chanting her name like it was some kind of prayer. He supposed it was. She was everything to him—his mate.
“I’m yours,” he breathed, capturing her lips as she built higher. He could feel those pulsating walls fluttering around him, threatening to ruin them both. “And you’re mine.”
Elain’s tongue touched his own, whimpering against his skin. It was too much. Elain came mere seconds before Lucien did, legs squeezed tight around his hips. It was quick—and messy—but somehow still the best sex Lucien had ever had in his life. He might have howled or he might have whispered. He wasn’t sure, could barely hear over the roaring in his ears.
He didn’t know what he was doing—Lucien grabbed her, standing on trembling legs while he was still inside her. They didn’t make it to the bathroom, where he realized he was taking her. Lucien fucked her up against the wall, fingers rubbing between her legs so she’d come before he did. It was close—Lucien had mere seconds to spare.
They got to the bathroom, too, where he had her against a rug, and then, and only then, did Lucien manage to get the tap going and put Elain inside it. Settled between his legs, Elain was content to let Lucien scrub the blood from her skin and hair, drain the tub, and refill it again—this time, with bubbles.
Elain reached for a glass jar of purple salts, handing it to him with a smile.
“I can’t eat this,” he deadpanned, hoping she still wanted to accept. Elain snorted a soft laugh.
“Too bad. Put them in anyway, Lucien.”
Lucien unscrewed the cap, dumping the beads around them until Elain practically purred with pleasure. It satisfied him to see her happy—content, head resting against his shoulder, fingers grazing against his thighs under the water.
“What happens now, Lucien?”
“My mother will likely want a wedding in the city. We could probably elope, but—”
“Not with us,” she interrupted, her amusement plain. “With…with Prythian?”
Oh. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”
“Together?” she asked, her fingers coming awfully close to his still too-hard erection. Lucien wondered how long it would take for the mating bond to settle.
“Of course,” he murmured, lips brushing the shell of her ear. “I have no intention of living this life without you, princess.”
“Who knew you’d turn out to be so sentimental?” Elain asked, twisting in the water so she could look at him. Lucien laughed, running his fingers through her silken, wet hair.
“Trust me—I’m just as surprised as you.”
“If you would have told me I’d be kissing the very same male I once watched put his head beneath another ladies skirt, I would have called you a liar.”
“It was practice,” he breathed, strangely apologetic. Lucien wished he’d waited, too. They could have come together for the first time and he’d fucked that all up by assuming he’d always be a single male—that he’d never have to get married. “It was practice for you.”
“Don’t get soft on me now,” she teased, poking him in the stomach.
Lucien shifted, his cock brushing against her hip. “There is nothing soft about me.”
“No,” she agreed, kissing beneath his jaw. “I suppose there isn’t. Tell me, prince, about this wedding you might throw.” Lucien’s heart stumbled. “Is that something you want?”
“I suppose that depends on if you ask me—not in a bathtub,” she added quickly, reading his mind. Lucien had intended to ask without thinking, without a ring or anything that might make the moment special—romantic. He settled, mind racing. He’d make a spectacle of it, if only to cement his claim on her permanently.
His wife and mate. Nothing had ever sounded more appealing to him in his life. “We’ll figure it out,” he murmured into her damp hair. “There’s no rush—we have eternity, remember?”
“An eternity to remind you of all the reasons you used to loathe me,” she joked, fingers returning to tease his thigh. They weren’t going to make it through the bath. Lucien’s need roared through him again, demanding he finish what he’d started.
“I look forward to it,” he murmured, lips over her neck.
And oh. How Lucien did.

A Court of Vines and Shadow - for @cssns ‘23
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: When Dark One Killian Jones makes Faerie Princess Emma of Misthaven spend 3 moon cycles a year with him to break a curse, Emma never expected to fall in love with him. Now she was walking down the aisle, meant to marry a man she doesn't love because she can never be with the one her heart wants. Or can she?
An ACOTAR Inspired fic written for Captain Swan Supernatural Summer 23. Also on A03
Also it’s July 9th and Speak Now Taylor’s Version just came out I feel like Speak Now is the perfect song to accompany this fic!!
Huge thanks to @cssns for this amazing event which allowed me to bring this to life! And special shoutouts to @hollyethecurious for the amazing art and also to my awesome beta @blonde-of-sherwood 💙💜
White dress. The Spring fallen gardens filled with flowers upon flowers, petals scattered all the way down the aisle and vines spiralling the chairs and arch. Flowers Emma had grown herself with her magic, snowbells and lilies, her mothers favourite flowers, the ones she first learnt how to grow using her magic when it first manifested all those years ago.
Her mother was who she was doing this for. Marrying someone she doesn’t love. Her mother worked so hard to arrange the various meetings with suitors, all noble Fae men, only the best for the Princess of Misthaven. Her mother never got to have a big wedding, she met Emma’s father and fell in love almost as quickly as she fell pregnant. As newly appointed King of Misthaven, they had to elope quickly so the Kingdom would be more accepting of their new Queen, who also happened to be a demi-fae. Her mother, who Emma dearly loved, so much so that she was marrying someone she had had just 3 conversations with all to appease the Kingdom and not go to Civil War because of the man she does love.
Killian. That’s who her mind wandered to. The Prince of Darkness as the rest of the Kingdom saw him. It had taken a while to see past his shadows and darkness, which she now understands was built from the loss of his family and the only people he had ever loved. But she loved him fiercely, anytime they were apart it broke her. Having to say goodbye for the final time was the closest Emma had felt to heartbreak.
So here she was, standing in her white dress, flowers in her hair and bouquet in her hands, where she would meet her father, take his arm and walk down the aisle to marry Lord Walsh. Pushing thoughts of Killian to the back of her mind as she walked towards the aisle to all the smiling faces of her Kingdom. She had to do this, she loved Killlian but they both knew they would never be together in the way they wanted. She just wished she had allowed herself to see past his darkness sooner and they could have had more time together.
“Emma.” An all too familiar voice calls her name from behind the aisle. He uses his power to bind the shadows to him, making him appear in a sort of smoke of darkness as he steps towards his lover. One of his other talents includes stopping time, just for a few minutes, but those few minutes were all he needed.
“Killian. What are you doing here?” As much as she loved him, it pained her to see him here. They had said their goodbyes a few nights prior. Seeing him here, in a white dress about to marry someone else, it wasn’t right.
“I have tried, Emma, truly I have tried to stay away. If it made you happy I would stand by and let you marry someone else, but I can feel your pain all the way in Neverland. It’s causing me pain too, and I think I understand now, it’s why I was so drawn to you the very first time we met, why, even when you hated me you could never really stay away.”
“Killan, you’re not making any sense, what are you saying?” It was painful seeing him, she was hurting, thinking of their time together and how fate was so cruel to not allow them more time.
“You’re my mate.”
His mate. Mates in this world were rare, her parents were never granted that luxury. She hadn’t known of anyone in the last 200 years who found their Mate. So why her? Why now?
Mates were equal in power and status, perfectly matched by the universe. A one true love, a soulmate. She never denied she loved Killian, but being his Mate was a whole other experience. It made sense in a way, they were drawn together at the ball when they first met. He could sense she was powerful, he recognised her untapped powers, something even her parents were unable to do. And she was never scared of him either, she had heard the rumours of course, and knew what he was capable of, but that didn't scare her.
_______________
Emma had been to hundreds of balls in her lifetime, even when she was a little girl, she would sneak into the ones at her palace, and watch everyone dance. They all shared a unique beauty about them, from the way the light reflected on the dresses worn or the chandeliers making rainbows across the walls, they were a thing of otherworldly beauty. But this ball in particular was nothing like those she was used to. It was hosted just outside Misthavens borders, an old castle known to be taken up residence by a Fae many years ago known as “The Dark One”. Rumours began to spiral that the Dark One was back. It had been years since he had been seen and random killings had stopped, but who knew. The invitations went to all the noble folk in Misthaven and surrounding kingdoms and the signature was empty, leaving more curious minds. There were many debates surrounding whether they should go or not, but the Royal Family of Misthaven had to attend to keep peace.
As she grew older the balls became a chance for her parents to find her a suitor to marry, she was now 21 and it was considered uncouth for the Crown Princess to be unmarried, even by Fae standards. So in an effort to avoid dancing with a Duke, she would practise her magic. Every Fae was gifted a power linked to the four elements, and Emma had inherited Earth from her mother. At times she thought it was a boring element to have, her younger brother Leo had water, which was useful for everyday life as well as pulling pranks (to which she was victim of lately). But as she got older she learnt to appreciate it, she enjoyed seeing what she could make grow, especially in situations like right now.
There would always be potted plants, pretty flowers surrounding the tables, she breathed into her powers and with a single touch could double the petals or even change their colours. Sometimes she would paint the pink flowers blue, or the white ones black just to test what she could do. Of course, her mother didn’t approve of using it for this. She was also gifted with the power of earth, but she preferred to make things grow or inject life back into a sunken plant, rather than mess with existing life.
“Not enjoying the festivities I see?” A voice from behind Emma startles her, she didn’t recognise him, dark hair and piercing blue eyes. Dressed in an all black leather suit, not the typical style the men wore. His pointed ears stick out from his dark hair, Emma had always felt self conscious of her ears, so made an effort to hide them, but this man, whoever he was, was the most beautiful man she’d ever laid eyes on.
“I come for the faerie wine and food only I’m afraid.” She tells him with a playful smile.
“Well if you’re here for the wine why aren’t you dancing? Most people get drunk off a few sips then don’t leave the dance floor all night.”
She leans in close, “I’m not like most women.” What was the harm in flirting, he was gorgeous and her parents would never approve which made him all the more exciting.
He holds out his hand to her, “Dance with me, I insist.”
Dancing with a handsome stranger was not how Emma expected the night to go, but he was a great partner, unlike some of the suitors her mother had forced upon her in the past. He led her around the room with grace and it was as though they flew through the dancefloor together, no stepping on toes and he even spun her around a couple times, feeling the wine go to her head a little more. “You’re really good at this.”
“There’s just one rule, pick a partner who knows what he’s doing.” He whispers into her ear as he dips her. “You’re very powerful, you know Emma.” He tells her as she comes up.
“How do you know my name?” Sure she was the Princess, and most people recognise her at these things, but it was strange the way he said it so casually.
“I know a lot of things Emma.” He whispers, his breath close to her neck, making Emma feel a sense of arousal. A moment later the mystery man turned into shadow and darkness, disappearing from her hold and reappearing out of shadows at the top of the staircase.
“Welcome to my lovely guests. I guess it’s time I introduce myself?”
All eyes were on the mystery man now, they all saw his shadow power. That wasn’t one of the four elements, this was some other worldly magic. Then, for Emma at least, it clicks. The charming lustful energy coming from him, his ability to know things he shouldn’t, and his shadow and darkness powers. He was the Dark One.
That should have made her terrified, but for some reason, it didn’t scare her. Who was he?
“My name is Killian Jones. But I believe your people have a few different names for me, Dark One, Wronged Fae, Prince of Darkness is a personal favourite-though I bore no royal blood or status.”
_____________
And that’s where it began, he said he held this ball because he was supposedly cursed and needed someone with light magic to resolve it. Not just any light magic though, a very specific kind. And of all the Fae in the land, he decided Emma, after one conversation and dance that she was the Fae he was looking for, only she could break the curse.
“All I request are 3 moon cycles with her every year until I decide otherwise, or my curse is broken, whichever comes first.” This was his deal, his bargain. As the Dark One, you would be a fool to refuse or dispute a bargain.
Her parents were outraged, and tried everything in their power to stop them. They were a royal family, if he were anyone else maybe that would have been enough, but as the Dark One, he bore no allegiance to royalty. So for 3 moon cycles, she was to live with him, in his castle, doing who knows what.
____
The first moon cycle was absurd, The Dark One didn’t mention a single thing about his supposed curse. He made her practise her magic every single day. Barely spoke to her. Her main source of contact was with one of the servants, Belle. She would show her to her room, which wasn’t a prison or a dungeon like she was expecting, but it had lush carpets. velvet curtains and the most gorgeous and comfortable king size bed in the centre of the room. She would also take her down to the grand dining room where she was to eat all meals. The food was exquisite, the spices used were unlike anything she’d eaten before, it made Misthavens cooks look like a child in the kitchen.
There was no sign of him for the first couple of days, he left Belle with a page of  instructions for Emma to get on with while she was here. The only thing on the list:
Read: The Complete Earth Elemental Magic Volume I
Read about her magic. That was the only thing she would do all day. For the first two moon cycles this is all she does, she sees him in passing, at mealtimes mainly. He is pleasant and they make small talk.
When she arrives home, her parents pounce on her, needing to know everything. What she witnessed, who she spoke to and if he hurt her in any way. They were terrified, and it made Emma realise she wasn’t afraid of him the way others were.
“We have suitors lined up.” Her mother would tell her, desperate to get her married off in the strange fear the Dark One would whisk Emma away to be his bride before she could marry a noble born. She would play along and speak to the princes and lords her parents picked out for her. She tried, really tried to find something good in any of them, but her mind would wander back to the blue eyes and dark haired villain she would be seeing again very soon.
The next moon cycle comes along and her task is to again, read the magic book which she was now on volume III of. Enough was enough, she needed to know her place and what exactly he intended to do with her.
“I have read these volumes cover to cover. If I have to learn about the different ways a flower can be grown I think I will die of boredom. You mentioned a curse that first night. Tell me everything and I can look in those stupid books for something that might actually help.”
He smiles at her as she rambles on about being a useful Fae and powerful if he lets her see. He admired her courage and her passion. “Very well Emma.” The way he says her name makes Emma feel something inside her that she’s not sure is good or bad.
“Contrary to popular belief about the Dark One, I did not choose this power willingly. It was forced upon me by a former Dark One. You see, only one can exist at a moment in time, and the only way to steal the power is to steal the life that holds such power.” He then goes on to explain how many years ago, his brother’s wife had fallen sick from her pregnancy and they were not sure if the baby would survive, the three of them searched for a cure around different lands, different royal families, they had to find something to save her but had no such luck. “One night, we had grown tired and stopped to find shelter for the night, when Elsa, my brother's wife began to bleed, she was losing the baby. Liam cried out and an old man came to our aid, asked if we would do anything to help to which I naively responded yes to. He kills them both using a type of magic I didn’t know existed.’ He can barely get through his story without stopping every few moments, and it's clear he still has a heart. “He then tells me if I take the dagger and stab him in the heart, they will be revived and the baby safe.”
“He forced you to kill him so he would be free of his curse, and in turn it then cursed you?”
“Aye love. That night has haunted me for nearly 200 years, I was desperate and if I could go back and change things I would. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to free myself that doesn’t involve trickery. I also do not wish to burden another innocent life with this curse.” He then takes Emma’s hand and looks into her eyes, “That is where you come in, Emma Darling.  I saw a seer and she shared with me a vision. A golden haired demi-fae with an earth element bearing an unyielding amount of light magic has the power to free me without hurting either party.”
“And of all the demi-fae with an earth element, you believe it's me because?”
“That’s why I held the ball. I wanted to see who I was drawn to, and as soon as I met you Emma, it was clear you were the one. You are special” The way he looked at her as she said this, made her feel warm inside. For a split second Emma also thought he was going to kiss her, and that if he did, she would let him.
That was the changing point. The more time they spent together going over her magic the more confident she felt. She learnt more things about her magic that she had known were possible. She could end life as quickly as she could revive it, well, the life of a flower anyway. She could drain the life from a lily and then when it was wilting, press life back into it. Emma guessed the more she practised this, maybe she would drain the darkness from Killian.
“Have you ever experimented with other elements, Emma Darling?” He asks one day, it was the last day of the moon cycle and she was to return home. She hadn’t realised how much she would miss his company.
“I was only gifted with the earth element, my mother shares it too. My brother inherited water from my father.” She explains, “I haven’t heard of any Fae who were gifted more than one element, wouldn’t that disrupt the power balance?”
She would also miss the way he would sit there and smile at her when she rambled, he really wasn't as bad as people said he was. They didn’t know him the way she did. “Emma, you’re special. You hold the element of earth, well all elements are connected to the earth, are they not? Why don’t you try to conjure fire?”
All Fae were granted one element, fire, air, earth or water, it was unheard of for someone to hold a double or even triple elemental magic, every scripture and teacher would tell you too much power would disrupt the power balance of the universe, and everyone would suffer. But then again if she were truly the Fae in his prophecy, she was already disrupting the power of the universe.
“I wouldn’t know where to start, I don’t know anyone with that power and even if I did I-.” He was already moving towards her before she could finish her train of thought.
“All power lives inside you Emma.” He stands behind her and places his hand on her shoulders, moving down to her abdomen, “you can feel it inside you, reach deep inside and find that extra source of power.” Emma had to focus on keeping her breathing normal, he was touching her and she was feeling very strange things at the moment. Still, she does as he instructs, she feels where she knows her earth power lies, she taps into it daily. But then she tries to focus on where that power was, and if she could feel anything else. At first she could only feel her earth, but then she felt something different, she wasn’t sure what it was but it was similar to the way her earth felt.
“That's it, love.” Killian says, hand still resting on her abdomen, “hone in on that. And think of something that makes you angry, feel the fire before you conjure it.”
Pushing the way his husky breath felt on her neck aside, she thought of her mother and how she orchestrated all these suitors that were supposedly so ‘perfect’ for her, how she never listened to what she wanted and how angry she felt when she would come home from her studies to see a Prince or a Duke in her sitting room.
“Open your eyes Emma.”
Fire. A small flame coming from her palm was the sight Emma was greeted with when she opened her eyes. It didn’t burn for very long once she realised what she had done and couldn’t figure out how to control it. But she did that.
“I conjured fire.” She says with a mix of shock and excitement plastering her face.
“I told you you were powerful Emma.”
He was still standing behind her, so she turns to see him grinning at her and his gaze fixed on her, in awe of her. They’re both silent for a moment, clearly having the same internal battle inside their head. Their heads moved closer and closer until their lips finally met and Emma felt her magic on fire. Every sense was heightened with this kiss, a merge of power and lust building up from their shared time together. Killian deepens the kiss as his hand settles on her cheek while Emma’s hands find his hair. She’s being pushed up against the wall after a while, and Emma leans her head back and moans as Killian pressees kisses onto her neck and then back to her lips.
Their time together was never the same after that. Being apart from one another became harder. Every time Emma would practise her newfound powers, her thoughts would wander back to Killian and how he made her feel.
When they were together, they were rarely apart. She possessed all four elements, and took the time to learn and explore what she could do with them. Of course she had to keep this quiet when she was away from Neverland and from Killian. Her family and her court would be wary of her newfound powers, likely brand her as dark as her ‘captor’ as they referred to Killian.
“I wish you would stop calling him that, he has a name.” She finally snaps back at her mother upon her return after listening to her rattling her newest ideas on how to get out of the contract.
“He forces you to be away from your family for a whole moon cycle. He is darkening your mind with his power if you do not see what is wrong with that my sweet child.”
That taught her to keep her mouth shut. They didn’t understand. Yes, as part of a bargain she was to spend time with him, but she looked forward to those moon cycles, he understood her, listened to her, she felt he was the only person she could be herself around. Worst of it was, she was falling in love with him. No, she was in love with him. And she had an inkling that he felt the same.
The next time she comes home, yet again there is a suitor sitting in her living room. She didn’t know who this one was and frankly, she didn’t care.
“Emma. I’m glad to see you’re home in one piece.” Her mother says, and Emma rolls her eyes, pretending she wasn’t practically seething that comment. She would never understand Killian or how she felt safe with him.
“Hello mother. Who is our guest?” She asks with a fake smile, knowing full well this was another suitor she was not interested in.
The suitor offers out his hand and bows, “Lord Walsh of Oz. it is a pleasure to finally meet you, your highness.”
He was an older man, older than she was, which was not uncommon for suitors as they had to be to have a title. He was average height, nothing particularly interesting about him was jumping out at her. Her mother clearly chose this one from the same place as all the others, he was polite and overly grateful to the Queen for inviting him. They would all sip on their tea whilst Emma made polite conversation with them and they would express their interest for children and make an awful comment about being the more powerful Fae and Emma would thank them for their time as she busied herself with something else to get away. She wondered how long this one would take to get rid of.
“Lord Walsh is to be your husband. We have been setting arrangements whilst you were being held hostage.” She rolls her eyes at the hostage comment and was about to argue, until it hits what she just said.
“I’m sorry, we’re to be married when?” This was a new low, even for her mother. “Mother, may I speak with you in private?”
“Excuse us.” Snow tells Walsh as she guides her daughter into the drawing room.
“I can’t believe this. I’m away for one moon cycle and you have me married off already? I keep telling you, I want to marry for love.” She didn’t know what to feel right now, angry yes, upset yes, and also confused, why now, when the topic of suitors had never felt imminent.
“Emma, every day you spend with the Dark One is a day closer to us never seeing you again.” She tells her as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
“If this is still about him corrupting my mind, you have to know I’m still the same person as I was before the bargain.” As the Crown Princess, Emma didn’t have many choices in terms of clothing, free speech or political opinion, but she deserved the freedom to choose and to marry whoever she liked.
Her mother touched her cheek, a way she did when Emma was younger. “Emma, the fact you don’t see it worries me. This is for the best. If we send a message you’re getting married, you can convince him to call off the bargain. This is a good thing Emma, things will go back to the way they were.”
She may have spent more moon cycles with the Dark One than planned, but she sure as hell was not dark herself, Killian couldn’t corrupt her when he was only trying to heal. She was different, she admits that, but it was a good different. She was powerful, confident in her abilities and her magic. Something that only came from being with Killian.
But she was the princess. Her parents, the King and Queen. She could fight with them about many things, but this was orchestrated by them. She could try to refuse this marriage, but she would need a valid reason, another prince or duke to replace Lord Walsh. It was a horrifying thought, but she didn’t have a choice. She was going to have to marry him.
What she wanted was to run away with Killian. She wanted to free him of his curse, help him heal. She did not want to be bound to him for a moon cycle at a time, she wished to spend as much time as she wished. But if she did that then her parents would come looking, they would send armies to search for her, it would cost the kingdom more money than they have. Running away would cause a civil war.
All because she fell in love with the wrong Fae.
________________________________________
“I know you feel it too. Please Emma, don’t deny it.” He pleads, keeping the shadows clouding around them for a little while longer.
“I don’t deny it. I’m just in shock.” She admits. Having a mate in this world was rare, but those who were lucky enough to be granted one would be damned for all eternity if they chose to reject their mate. She had grown up with a legend of a male who loved another for years before meeting his mate, they chose to be apart and he died of heartache. She isn’t sure how much of that was true, but there was a reason they were chosen to be mates by the universe. She couldn’t marry Lord Walsh, no matter how hard her mother worked, marrying someone she had no love for knowing her mate, her true love was just out of reach would be too painful a life to lead. “Killlian, if we’re doing this, it has to be right, we have to follow the rules. If I run away now, it will only start a war.”
Killian nods in understanding, “We do this the right way. I claim you in front of everyone, and if you claim me back there is nothing they can do to stop.” He gives her a quick kiss before disbanding the shadows around them and hides from onlookers until it's time.
The crowd are unaware anything happened as she begins her descent down the flowery aisle. She spies her family in the crowd, her mother looking so happy, her brother next to her smiling brightly and her father trying not to cry as she takes his arm. He was meant to be giving her away to Walsh, but he was indirectly handing his daughter over to the Dark One. This was going to break their hearts, but she hoped they would see that Killian made her happy, the life she was choosing for herself was far better than the one her family were choosing for her.
Walsh stands at the end of the aisle by the arch, his family were noble and would prosper from this union, more land and a grander estate. All of that was meaningless though, he didn’t love Emma either, it was his family pushing this marriage as much as it was her own. She was leaving a lot behind, her brother would become Crown Prince, and her mother would likely push a marriage for him too, likely to Princess Alexandra of the Western Kingdom to save the Kingdom from too much heartbreak of a runaway Princess. But it was worth it, the time spent with Killian made her feel alive for the first time in her life, she discovered things about her she didn’t know she could do.
“We are gathered today to witness the marital union between these two people. Lord Walsh of Oz, and Princess Emma of Misthaven.”
Emma spies Killians shadows from just beyond the arch, waiting for the right time.
“If there is any reason why these two should not be married, Speak Now or forever hold your peace.”
Silence from the crowd. Until shadows grow and at the other end of the aisle, Killian transfigures. “I object.”
The crowd begins to stir, chatter arises, some people even scream. “Under what grounds?”
“I have come to claim Emma. As my Mate.”
Shock horror from the crowd once again, she hears her parents cries and pleads not to go through with this, but she had no choice, this was for her own happiness, she was putting herself first for once.
“Do you claim me as I claim you?” He asks, knowing her answer.
“I claim you, Killian Jones, as my mate.”
Neither were sure exactly what would happen when they said those words, legend said mates had to claim one another in words, whether that be in public or in private. Considering mates were rare and neither had met or heard of anyone that had a mate, they were unaware if anything were meant to happen after they had claimed one another, whether it be lighting from the sky or if they would feel it in their hearts.
Neither were prepared for their right arms to suddenly have ink appear and spiral into a tattoo, matching with one another. Confirming their mateship and that they were now bound to one another, there was nothing anyone could do about it.
With a last look of pity and sorrow at her family, she runs into her new mates arms, and they disappear in a cloud of shadow.
 Emma was going home.

As It Was (S2)
Chapter Twelve
previous chapter next chapter
Summary: You have a bold idea that obviously leads you and Bucky into an argument. Who doesn't like a wedding?
Author's note: Dear readers, I will be writing this fanfic again. This second season will have shorter chapters and it will probably take me a little longer to update the fanfic but I hope you like it!
MINORS DO NOT INTERACT WITH THIS STORY, there may be adult content and verbal and physical violence.
Tumblr media
"That's the craziest invention you've ever had, Melisa. Did your ex-husband agree to this whole strategy?" Sam asks after you tell him your plan to capture Steve and Killian.
"What makes you believe I told him before I told the four of you?" I speak confidently that they will see things as I do.
"To recap, do you want to be bait in a fake wedding; making two dangerous men come after you?" Yelena seems to have understood the premise of my genius plan.
"Yes, this marriage will make them want to burn the archives. Despite my father's evidence, the fact that they tried to kill me makes everything worse." The reality is that I can't run away forever. Not knowing when something might happen to you or someone you love.
"What if they don't show up? Are you going to marry Barnes again?" Sam says it like it's the most unlikely thing in the world, considering I was married to Barnes once.
"Whatever, it's better to take a risk and not work out, than to do nothing and live in fear." I say, determined to make this weak team help me capture the man who killed my father and the man who almost killed me.
"I agree with Melisa, living in fear doesn't do any good. Not to mention that her marrying Bucky isn't the end of times. We'll be there to protect the engaged couple after all." Wanda speaks, trying to seek support in her wife's eyes, but Yelena seems unsatisfied.
"This could go very wrong, you could die, we could die too because Barnes won't accept this and we will have to do it without his cooperation. So if everything goes wrong he will take it out on us." Sam's right, Barnes will probably be pissed at them and if I survive at most I'll get two weeks without sex as punishment.
"But if we don't do anything to help Melisa, these two cowards will haunt her life. My friend spent months in a hospital bed and wants her peace back. I think we should give her that." Dave he says with authority, trying to show himself as a supporter of this plan. I hug him gently.
"Give what, to whom?" James Barnes came out of his eternal bath wearing a robe. Look, I didn't tell him about the plan but I know he's going to hate it.
"His ex-wife had an unusual idea to solve a problem. We're trying to figure out if it's worth trying." Yelena responds to Barnes, who looks confused.
"Funny, my ex-wife hasn't said anything to me in the days we've been together. At least nothing about this plan." You know that weird feeling like you're going to get fucked? I'm feeling it now.
"That's because she didn't feel you were ready to accept that plan." I say quietly as if I wished I didn't have to say anything.
"On a scale of one to ten, how much does Melisa put herself in danger in her plan?" He asks, clearly speaking to the rest of the group.
"Nine." Exactly everyone says it together, as if they were synchronized. Barnes looked at me as if to say, now you know why I don't like his plan.
"Baby, there's no way I'm going to agree to this plan. You at least suggested being bait to catch the two mother fuckers that almost killed you and I." It's funny how he says this minutes before grabbing me by the waist and kissing me on the cheek.
"I'm not going to give up on the plan, Barnes. I love you and I respect you. I would like you to respect my plan and follow it. But if you don't, I'll go through with it without you." I said looking into the eyes my ex. I know he wants the best for me but I can't live in this way forever.
"Do you want to end up like your father?" He responds sharply and I move away from him. I think we went back to the beginning of our relationship again. He wants to have the last word and I want to do what's best for me.
"Better to end up like him, than to live a life of fear and cowardice. If you don't understand me, that's your problem. But if you love me that much, you should support me and protect me. It was exactly for this reaction that I didn't tell you the plan." I say this hoping he will say something, say he will accept the plan or that I can't count on him. But I get silence. In fact, he left the house that was once ours and left without saying a word.
"I changed my mind, I'll support you in this. If you need a new fiancé, I'm available. Now I'm going to go and see where your husband went." Sam says kissing my cheek and going after Barnes.
"I still think this plan is crazy but if you're willing to fight Barnes over this, it must be important to you. Count on me, for any plan you have." Yelena says giving me a look of support. I am grateful for her decision to help me.
"These idiots and I are going to help you. Either way we're going to get Steve and Killian. One way or another." Wanda says hugging me and then saying goodbye. Just me and Daven left.
"Wine and ice cream?" Dave says, throwing himself on the couch and turning on my TV. You nod your head, hoping that some movie will take your argument with Barnes out of your mind. To think he was so angry that he came out in a bathrobe. It's even funny.

"That's not Killian."
"Are you sure?" David sounded skeptical of Emma’s statement, but she had no clue why.
"Of course I'm sure; he’s my freaking husband. That's not him," she insisted, pointing to the (admittedly handsome) stranger in the cell.
For starters, Emma had literally just left Killian at the library; there was no way he'd have had the time to start a fight with Leroy at Granny's AND get arrested in the span of 5 minutes. (At least, not anymore.)
Second, she would know him anywhere, any time, in any world. Even the haggard version of Killian she’d met in the Wish Realm was undeniably him.
So while this clearly hungover man looked and sounded like Killian, she knew it wasn't. There was nothing but anger deep in this man's eyes—a look Killian hadn't had in ages. She briefly entertained the possibility he was cursed, or that this was some kind of glamour spell or time travel, but then she took a closer look at his face: the scar was all wrong—it was deeper and cut a jagged line into his left cheek; Killian's was light and curved down the right side. And to top it all off, he had two hands.
But that only raised another question.
"Who are you?"
"Finally, one of you idiots doesn't pretend to know me." A chill went down her spine; it was Killian's voice, alright, but with more venom and spite than his ever had in the time she’d known him. And the accent was ever so slightly different—less of a lilt and more of an edge.
"I'll ask again: who are you?" She'd gotten pretty good at reading Killian, but it was proving near impossible with this guy (further proof that it was not her favorite pirate).
"How about you tell me who everyone thinks I am?" There was a challenge in his tone.
"Nope." No way was she letting him find out about Killian if he didn’t already know. "Why are you here, then?"
"That's my business." His face suddenly turned dark—well, darker—and she grew fearful. Because even though she knew he was a different person, he was starting to remind her an awful lot of the man she found hiding under some bodies in the Enchanted Forest, who was willing to burn heaven and hell to get his revenge.
"You made it our business when you came into this town," David supplied. "Either tell us why you're here, and maybe we can help you, or let us escort you out of town."
A sudden rage came over the man, and he jumped up and grabbed at the cell's bars. "I'm not leaving until I've taken what's mine!" A fire burned in his eyes as he shouted.
No, wait—that was actual fire. His hands began to glow a hot red-orange and she heard a distinct hissing sound. Two jaws dropped as the man melted the metal in his hands and then some, giving him an easy exit.
He angrily stepped through the hole he'd just made and began to stride out of the station. David attempted to grab him, but the man twisted away and turned to give them both a menacing look.
"Stay out of my way and leave the Dark One to me," he warned. A moment later, he appeared to be engulfed in flames, and the next, he was gone. Emma exchanged a look of shock with her father.
"Definitely not Hook."
“Duh,” she deadpanned. But she was stuck on something else. "The Dark One?"
"He must not know."
They didn't get a chance to process the encounter before the station phone was ringing. David answered it and hung up not a minute later, sighing.
"Speaking of."
"Gold?"
"Yeah. Turns out his shop got ransacked last night."
"Shit. And I bet we know who did it."
★・・・・・・★・・・・・・🗡・・・・・・★・・・・・・★
So he had a doppelganger in this town; that was why everyone seemed to know him. He had transported to a spot down the street from the pawn shop and was mulling over this new detail as he made his way there, lighting a fresh cigarette as he went. He relished the fact that he'd made some trouble for his lookalike. And maybe he could use that to his advantage here.
The door still hung ajar at the pawn shop when he arrived and he could hear someone shuffling around inside. He had to pause and take a moment to calm himself down—after centuries, he was finally only feet away from his quarry; he couldn't let his hot temper get in the way right now.
As quietly as he could, he stepped toward the entryway and looked in. A graying man was poking around and muttering, leaning on a cane and inspecting the damage. Why didn’t he just wave his hand and fix it all? Surely the Dark One would have no issue with magic as small as that.
A horrific thought entered his mind: what if the power of the Dark One was void in this realm? And that was why he had a hard time sensing it? He finally got a glimpse of the crippled man’s face: it was definitely Rumpelstiltskin. But he’d yet to pick up any full traces of that dark magic.
“I know you’re there, dearie,” a voice with a distinct brogue called out. Smirking, he stepped through the threshold.
He finally stood to face-to-face with his longtime prey. Rumpelstiltskin stared back; he looked nothing like how a Dark One should appear, though—he was utterly and completely normal.
“Captain, this is highly unusual.” In his reverie, he missed the look of recognition in the Dark One’s eyes.
Captain? Well that was a juicy little tidbit. Perhaps there’d be an adjoining vessel with which to hightail it out of here. “Just seeing how you liked my handiwork.”
Only a few feet of rubble-covered wood floor separated the two. “Are you here about your hand, or is there some other reason you’ve decided to break into and ransack my shop? I thought we were done, for good.”
Hand? He quickly thought back to the appendage in a jar and made sure both of his were out of sight as he meandered across the shop, pausing to lean against the counter. “I think there’s something else you can help me with, Dark One.”
“Really? Still using that title.” Rumpeltstiltskin gave a self-satisfied smirk that looked far too natural on his face.
Careful to use his right hand (the one in the jar was a left, he’d noticed), he took the dying cigarette from his teeth and put it out in the wood of the counter. Anger rose in his chest at his foe's cockiness and lack of fear—that wasn’t something he was used to. “Where is the dagger?” he asked, voice low.
“The dagger?” Rumpelstiltskin bore an incredulous expression, but the confusion only set off his own anger (so much for trying to collect himself). In a flash, he was at the other man’s throat, the beginnings of a ball of fire forming in his palm just inches from the Dark One’s face.
“Where is your dagger?” he growled again, emphasizing each word.
A stream of emotions flitted across the apparent Mr. Gold’s face: confusion, anger, fear, and finally realization.
“Who are you?” he sputtered out.
“The man who’s going to take your power.” His voice was barely more than a rasp at this point; he was too close to back down now.
To his utter shock, the Dark One laughed. It took him by surprise, and the fireball fizzled out before it had even finished forming.
But he regained composure. “You find your demise funny?”
“I know who you are; you've been dogging me for years. But you’re too late, by quite some time. There is no Dark One; not anymore.”
He pulled back, jaw slack. Out of all the scenarios he’d envisioned, he hadn’t even contemplated this. “Impossible.”
“I’ll let the sheriff explain.”
Seemingly on cue, Emma from the station barged through the open door, gun raised and leveled at his chest. As if that would do anything. He was about to knock back the weapon with a wave of his hand, but something in her steely gaze gave him pause.
She didn’t fuck around, he could tell. But he wasn’t about to let some small-town cop spoil his quest. He guessed she had been nothing more than a jailer back in the Enchanted Forest—he knew well enough how the curse worked. So she was certainly no match for him.
"Look, darling, like I said—this doesn’t involve you.” He walked toward her, adopting a softer tone, as if speaking to a pet. “Now, I’d hate to ruin that pretty face of yours. But if you won’t leave me be, sweetheart, then you leave me no choice."
Another fireball appeared in his hand and he shot it toward the sheriff. But she deflected it with a jerk of her arm and a pulse of white light. Of course the law enforcement had magic, he thought with a sigh. Just then, the male sheriff arrived; could he do the same?
"Who the hell are you?" she asked with a confident but stern voice.
"Well ain't that the question of the hour." She was staring daggers at him. "You can read my name when it’s engraved on the Dark One’s dagger," he threw back, gesturing at Rumpelstiltskin. "Run along now; this is between us." He waved her off.
She wasn’t fazed. Instead, she smirked, taking a thick black bracelet her partner offered. "You know what this does?"
"No clue." He didn't have time for games, but before he knew it, she'd slipped it onto his wrist.
He tried to conjure it off—burn through it, melt it, anything—but nothing happened; it was as if his magic was blocked. "What the fuck?" Tugging was no use, either. "What did you do?" he roared.
Smoothly, she cuffed him—with actual handcuffs this time. Before they left, she looked over at the former Dark One. “Is there any way to tell—”
“Yes, indeed.” A yank of his head and a prick of pain on his scalp told him that Rumpelstiltskin had taken some of his hair.
“What the hell do you need that for?” His query fell on deaf ears.
“I’ll require the Captain’s, too,” his foe told the sheriff, who nodded in assent.
He was unceremoniously shoved outside and into the back of the squad car. “Don’t you have to read me my rights in this country?” he protested.
“Yeah. You have the right to shut up.”
Surprising himself, he complied. The weight of what he’d been told moments earlier was just beginning to settle in: there was no more Dark One. As preposterous as it sounded, it made sense: there were no traces of the Darkness, or even magic, on Rumpelstiltskin, and nothing as dark as what he sought anywhere here. A sense of emptiness consumed him as he realized his life's purpose, his lone goal, simply ceased to exist.
What now?
★・・・・・・★・・・・・・🗡・・・・・・★・・・・・・★
The wail of the siren was a rude and somewhat jarring intrusion on the peace and quiet of the library. Killian nearly dropped the book he was reshelving—part of his new role as assistant librarian—and Belle was interrupted from her processing of returned items. Both watched the squad car speed by, then exchanged a concerned look.
"They...they were coming from the direction of the shop," Belle stated, shakily. After everything had been resolved with the Darkness and everyone returned to the land of the living, he and the former Dark One had come to an uneasy peace, mainly for the sake of Belle. She was his closest friend in town, outside of his in-laws, and they would always share a unique bond in their love affairs with the Dark One; hers was far longer than his, although his own dabble with the Darkness made his (and Emma’s) a bit more intense.
And in the varying events of their lives since—Gideon’s (traumatic) birth, his and Emma’s wedding, the fight against the Black Fairy, Henry’s departure, and everything else—they’d been by each other’s sides, even going so far as to work together at the library. (Emma had offered him a position at the station, but was more than understanding when Belle’s counteroffer won out, knowing how it would sate his constant craving for knowledge.) Belle was like the little sister he’d never had, and he felt protective over her.
So that was why, without hesitation, he set the books down and stepped toward the door. "Shall we?"
She quickly joined him and they raced outside and down the street to the shop. He wasn't surprised to see the door hanging open, but the lack of a doorknob altogether was surprising, as well as what looked like puddles of solid metal on the ground.
"Rumple! Are you alright?" Belle shouted as she ran into the arms of the man in question. Glass crunched underfoot and Killian had to admit, it was an impressive mess.
"Who came to exact their revenge this time?" he asked dryly. He never agreed to liking his former adversary—only the barest level of civility.
"Ahh, of course you'd know the signs of vengeance anywhere," Gold snarled back. In a few surprisingly short strides, the man was in front of Killian and reached up to yank a few hairs from his head.
"Rumple!" Belle admonished.
"What the hell was that for, mate? It wasn't me." Killian cursed Gold further internally while rubbing at the now-sore spot on his scalp.
"I know that. But there's something else we have to figure out." Rumpelstiltskin placed the hairs in a vial from his jacket, which had a few others in there already. "Belle, my darling, will you help me with something?"
"Of course," she immediately replied, but Killian could see confusion and a bit of worry on her face. Her husband may have lost his powers and was no longer under the influence of the darkness, but it had still shaped his personality over the centuries and no one but Belle knew if he had any true remaining malevolence.
"Now why don't you run along to the station, Captain. I think there's something there of interest to you." Killian didn't like the threatening tone that came his way, but he nodded his assent and bid Belle goodbye.
As he rushed across town, he felt uneasy about what was waiting at the station; regardless of what he'd been told, his concern was directed at Emma before himself. He couldn't bear the thought of some evil attaching itself to or going after her again, and it was nothing good that melted that doorknob and trashed the store.
By the time he was within a block of the station, he was sprinting, fear consuming him as his imagination ran faster than his feet. "Emma!" he shouted as he threw open the station door and ran in.
To his relief, she seemed untouched, and was deep in conversation with David and whoever was in one of the station's cells.
"Hey, is everything alright?" she asked as he wrapped his arms around her.
"If you're fine, then yes," he sighed into her hair. "Gold told me to come here; I was worried."
She pulled back to study his face, and he could see the trepidation on her face. "Swan, what is it?"
Before she could answer, a familiar voice called out from the cell—perhaps too familiar. "What the actual fuck?"
Killian looked at the prisoner and began to wonder if his eyesight was finally failing him or if there was some kind of magic afoot, because he may as well have been looking in a mirror at the form identical to his behind the bars.
"Bloody hell."

AN EXCHANGE OF LETTERS. Sunrise Spire, many moons ago.
The boy is young, Dawnmaster. Perhaps too young to venture out into this world, so full of evil and grief. I fear it will break him, to see what it is like outside the walls of the Spire, where he’s been free to grow and thrive under the Light of our merciful Lord since he was but an infant. My spirit is unable to shake the feeling that his gentle nature won’t survive the shadows that fester far beyond our reach. I try to have faith, I know by Lathander’s will the Dark will not prevail but I can’t help but worry. If this is your final decision, to see him go, I will not oppose it. I trust your judgment and your wisdom when you say you see the wheel of fate spinning in his favor, our Lord's steady hand on his shoulder. I just wish there was a kinder way to let him go because I know this will change him, for better or worse. But I forget myself, High Priest, forgive the musings of a scared old man. I will summon Killian at the break of dawn and tell him of your decision. May the sunlight guide him and ever protect us all.
