yk something that really annoys me
when people will claim something is a Loki s2 edit but then adjust and edit the scenes in the finale so that Mobius and Loki looking at each other when Loki is actually looking back at all of his friends (and mainly Sylvie)
you can have your lokius edit but tag it as such and don’t try to play it off as the actual scene

Contestant Match-Ups!
Notes:
There will be some opportunities in later rounds for characters who get voted out to get “revived” i.e. voted back into the contest! (My current plan is along the lines of, say, the top ten characters with the most votes who lost are included in a poll(s) to see who will get revived back into the contest)
Not all nominated characters were able to be included. Some did not quite meet/match the “nerd criteria” we were looking at, and a handful of extremely obscure nominations were received (which was much appreciated!) but the small amount + inability to find sufficient information on the characters to make a determination on their qualification meant that they couldn’t be included.
Poll Length: Current plan is to have Round 1 polls span one week. It’s possible that after Round 1, polls may revert to being 24 hours each for the remaining rounds - this is still being decided, and we may also open up a poll to see what other people think or would prefer regarding this. We’re happy to hear your feedback.
Alright everyone, here are our contestants & match-ups! (The characters who win round 1 will get shuffled around again before being matched up in round 2!)
Gyro Gearloose (DuckTales 2017) vs Huey Duck (DuckTales 2017)
Baljeet Tjinder (Phineas and Ferb) vs Carl Karl (Phineas and Ferb)
Maxie (Pokémon) vs Clemont (Pokémon)
Dexter (Dexter’s Laboratory) vs Mandark (Dexter’s Laboratory)
Theodore “Tobey” McCallister III (WordGirl) vs Sniffles (Happy Tree Friends)
Dr. Sylvester "Sylvie" Ashling (Epithet Erased) vs Klug (Puyo Puyo)
Stanford Pines (Gravity Falls) vs Fan (Inanimate Insanity)
Melvin Sneedly (Captain Underpants) vs Martin Prince (The Simpsons)
Jeff Andonuts (Earthbound) vs Double D (Ed, Edd & Eddy)
Harold Norbert Cheever Doris McGrady V (Total Drama) vs Brainy Smurf (The Smurfs)
Alan “(the) Brain” Powers (Arthur) vs Carl Chryniszzswics (Johnny Bravo)
Steroids (Nuclear Throne) vs Closet (Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse)
Will Byers (Stranger Things) vs Abed Nadir (Community)
Victor Frankenstein (Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus) vs Donatello (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
Steve Urkel (Family Matters) vs Fact Sphere (Portal 2)
Kowalski (Penguins of Madagascar) vs Chidi Anagonye (The Good Place)
Dr. Herbert West (Re-Animator) vs Edward "Ed" Nygma (Gotham)
Berdly (Deltarune) vs Carlos the Scientist (Welcome to Night Vale)
Checklists
Each character will have their Nerd Checklist criteria featured in their polls, so that voters can see what criteria they do/don’t meet when making their decision! We are seeking to try and ensure that checklists are accurate. The checklists for each character will be posted prior to polls opening up, so that fans may have the opportunity to state if they think any selections or lack of selections are inaccurate. Behind the scenes, we’re working on finalising the checklists now.
In the end, no nomination was received for Floofty. I would have gone ahead and put them in the contest, but I’m not personally familiar with the character so I’m not able to fill out an accurate checklist for them. We will be looking at opening up nominations for a contest mainly featuring nerd girls to host afterwards, but nonbinary characters are still able to be nominated and participate for that too (same as they were for this contest focusing mainly on nerd guys)
The current goal is for Round 1 to start on Monday or Tuesday evening GMT+10, but that may be possibly delayed slightly depending on when the checklists are finalised/posted. Thanks, everyone! Will keep you all updated.
(Curious about how the match-ups were determined? Refer to the “How were the character Match-Ups for Round 1 Chosen?” post linked in pinned post!)

3, 5, & 8 for the new years writing ask!! Happy new year :)
3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?
I have no idea! It’s definitely possible but I have no plans for any other fandoms at the moment! I’ve definitely had ideas for other marvel fandoms (especially crossovers with Loki characters but also others being involved) but other than a vague idea I jotted down for Sylvie and Peggy Carter meeting I don’t have any planned fics for other fandoms!
If I had to predict, the only one I could imagine is if my rewatches of Steven Universe allow that show to dig it’s claws back into me lol. I wrote a few snippets for things when I was like 17-18, after I’d stopped writing/posting fics officially but had short little scene ideas I wanted to write down. I adore that show still but I’m not at peak obsession/interest like I am with the Loki fandom! But we’ll see! It’s always possible that something like that (or maybe even season 2 of Our Flag Means Death?!) could inspire me enough to write something else!
5. Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet?
I have a few that are first up! The main one is my 5+1 Christmas/New Year fic, I need to finish that soon so it’s not *too* far beyond the holidays lol. I’m a bit over half done and it’s short little sections so hopefully soon! Here’s a little preview!
Sylvie shrugs and starts tearing into the present, the goofy mustache themed wrapping paper being shredded effortlessly. She pulls out a long piece of fabric, bright green and covered in a slightly gaudy combination of gingerbread cookies, candy canes, Santas, snowflakes and reindeer. Holding it up in front of her and shaking it out reveals a long fleece onesie.
Loki gives an exaggerated frown that doesn’t stick as he lets out a laugh. “Shall I guess what mine is?” Loki gestures to his identical package.
“I have one too,” Mobius grins, cheeky and way too proud of himself. He clearly knows that his two much more stylish partners aren’t taken by the loud patterned pajamas, but when he’d seen them at the store he couldn’t resist.
“We’re meant to wear them and, ah, ‘twin’, are we?” Sylvie smirks slightly, her eyebrow raised.
“Triplet, yes. And I have more for the other Lokis when they come over tomorrow. Croki included.”
8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?
It’s not fully in the vault, as I do have a bunch of notes and planning and even a few snippets for it, but it has been dragged along for a while and beyond what I have on the page there has been an insane amount of just sitting and thinking about it trying to sort it out in my brain and make it click! And that would be my Boastful Loki fic! In the vein of having written origins and/or rescues for the other void Lokis, I’ve wanted to tackle Boastful’s story for so long. I have a whole document of outlines and notes from conversations with people like @insert-witty-user-name-here where we discussed ideas and thoughts, all trying to build to the full fic, but it just hasn’t come together yet. Because we know so little about him (barely a personality beyond a few traits and no backstory) there are so many directions it could go, and I already have the main event that causes his deviation (briefly hinted at in “In the Middle of the Night”) but deciding exactly how I want the story to unfold to make it as impactful and fitting as I want, it’s just not there yet 😅 I hope this is the year it finally gets done!! I’m not sure if it’d be better or worse to finish it before Season 2, it’d be nice to solidify it with my own ideas but there’s a possibility he could show up again and we’d get some canon stories for him 🤔 Ideally I’d like to finish before summer/season 2 but we’ll see lol. Even if not the origin, I do have some plans for Boastful to show up and get some more time to shine in the found family series!!
Thank you for the ask!! ☺️

how is s*ylvie not a mary sue?
I have been waiting YEARS for this question. (Well not years because Loki only came out (😉) like mere months ago, but you know what I mean).
To start off here's a definition of a "Mary Sue" so we are all on the same page.
Mary Sue: A Mary Sue is a type of fictional character, usually a young woman, who is portrayed as unrealistically free of weaknesses.
Now, the reason I was so excited to finally get a chance to answer this is because when there's a character I really love, the only thing I love to talk about more than their strengths is their flaws and weaknesses.
Because ALL good characters have them, and, to me, they just add to the loveability of the character. And Sylvie, despite what many people are saying, is certainly not an exception.
Tumblr media
One of the first flaws we notice about Sylvie is actually shown before we fully meet her. She is shown about twice in her first three main scenes that she is not the best strategist.
Although Sylvie is well versed in quick decision-making from her life on the run, she is still quite prone to errors in judgment. She gave the little French child a piece of candy which was a HUGE clue to her hideout which, ultimately, lead Loki and TVA to Roxxcart.
Sylvie would have known that the TVA would have searched the cathedral after she attacked that group of minutemen, and thus, would have easily found the child and the obviously period-inaccurate sweets.
The only thing I can think of to explain her actions was that the child caught her in the act, she worried they would spill the beans, gave the child candy to shut it up. A quick decision that didn't end up working in her favour.
Sylvie's poor strategies and planning are also shown WHEN SHE CLEARLY DIDN'T CHARGE HER TEMPAD FOR HER YEARS-IN-THE-MAKING-PLAN.
It's possible that the TemPad was only charged for the amount of trips Sylvie thought she would need. Hence, only one more trip out of the TVA after killing the Time Keepers. But even if this was the case, it shows an incredible lack of preparation on her part if things did go awry.
Tumblr media
This is one of the most interesting things about Sylvie that I really love; she seems to genuinely lack good strategist and sly behaviour. This hugely sets Sylvie apart from the most recognizable trait of our original Loki.
Apart from the finale, she is rarely deceptive when trying to achieve her goals. She doesn't ever try to pretend to be on the TVA's side, or charm her way in, or disguise herself as a minuteman.
No. Instead, she goes for the classic warrior approach; distract the enemy, and then use brute force to get to the Time Keeper's chamber and kill them.
TALK about under-prepared; homegirl legit at the time of her attack didn't even know that her powers were useless inside the TVA.
Tumblr media
I think Loki puts it perfectly:
Tumblr media
Sylvie isn't a good strategist. At least, not to the same extent Loki is. She's a fighter and often relies solely on physical skills to achieve her goals, often to her failure.
From this, we can deduct that Sylvie is impatient, reckless to a fault, and, often, idealistic about how her plans should work out. despite obviously not putting too much thought into them im sorry sylvie i love you but not knowing your magic wouldn't work in the tva is something i cant forgive.
These qualities (impatient, reckless, and idealistic) also weave themselves into her fighting style. I firstly want to be clear that I LOVE SYLVIE'S FIGHTING STYLE. Seriously, it's one of my favourite things about her.
Sylvie's a brawler, which is a product of obviously never being professionally trained like almost all our other MCU characters. What she knows, she's learnt on the street, her own personal battlefield.
However, a flaw of this is that she's is not as swift and quick on her feet as other character's like Loki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Two gifs are pictured above.]
[First gif: Sylvie takes a swing at Loki with her sword. He dodges her attempt and locks her arms behind her back. Second gif: Sylvie lifts her foot to kick Ravonna, who grabs her leg and throws her to the ground.]
Both gifs above picture moments in this six-episode show where Sylvie uses her full body towards this one move. These moves leave her horrendously open to her opponents' advances, which ultimately leads to her being briefly overpowered in each fight.
The last point I'll make is, admittedly, a little bit of a sneaky cheat as I mention one of Sylvie's strengths, her perceptiveness, but I love this parallel so much I couldn't not include it.
So we all remember the kiss scene. Sylvie used Loki's emotions as a distraction so that she can get the upper hand in the fight. (Clarification: I do not believe the kiss was meaningless to Sylvie but I do also believe that one of the intentions with the kiss was for it to be used as a distraction.)
The thing is, how did Sylvie know that this would work on Loki? She's already known him to be incredibly aware of his surroundings and virtually impossible to trick.
The answer: she knows he's a Loki. And she knows she's a Loki. She knows that Lokis have a tendency to get easily distracted by their emotions which can cause them to lose focus of their surrounding.
How does she know that? Because it's happened to her before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's canon, Sylvie knew the kiss would distract Loki because she knew he would feel the same way she felt when he comforted her in the Time-Keepers' chamber which thus made her blissfully unaware of Ravonna approaching.
All in all, Sylvie does have beautiful flaws and we love her for it, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Now, someone play John Legend's 'All of Me';
'Cause all of me Loves all of you Love your curves and all your edges All your perfect imperfections

OKAY FINE I gotta get this out of my system:  The problem for me with the Loki series is that, at the core of it, they didn’t actually deal with anything central to Loki’s character at the root of those issues and instead did a speedrun on these other characters, the main one of whom they want to have be a Loki while also not being a Loki, but not in an interesting “broke out of the mold” way, but instead “on a surface level she’s a Loki so we can say she is and have cute aesthetics, but we’re not actually going to address what that means or what it says about Loki as a character, also she’s not really a Loki so we can have our m/f pairing”. It’s less about what they included and more about what they didn’t include.  The first two episodes were so good!  Loki watching Frigga and Odin’s deaths, watching Asgard being destroyed, quite possibly thinking Thor is dead as well, they worked with what they had!  There was no way they were going to get the actors from the movies, so they did what they could!  And it hit me exactly like it was supposed to!  This was setting the stage for Loki dealing with his issues with his family because that’s central to his character.  Even when you separate him from them, he’s still driven by those issues. But then they almost never mentioned any of his family again after that.  There was zero dealing with the loss of them.  There was zero dealing with his relationships with them.  Even the mention of a throne at the end, how Loki had grown beyond wanting it (and it’s a whole separate issue of how they speedran his character evolution with people he’d known for like three months at most) was like, no!!! he never wanted the throne in the first place!!! he wanted his family to see him and love him!!! he wanted his people to see him and accept him!!! he needed to get over that he was defining himself through those people and rejecting them because he feared being rejected first and to do that he needed to acknowledge them first!!! In theory, the idea of Loki being the one to grow up when he has to--which is something I argue The Dark World (and then Ragnarok again) did really well--is a good one.  He realized he actually had to reach back or he was going to lose Thor in both of those movies, because there was a limit to Thor’s forgiveness for him, he had to step up or he was going to be left behind when Thor moved on.  That conversation on the skiff in Svartalfheim is still one of the absolute highs of the entire Thor cinemaverse, because they actually talked about the shit between them, because it was about Frigga’s death and Loki’s behavior, even when she wasn’t there! But instead Thor was mentioned all of two or three times in the entire series. Thor, who has always been central to Loki’s character and issues.  Odin was mentioned only in the scene where Loki watched him die.  This is a Loki who is not that long after falling off the Bifrost because he was so devastated by learning he was adopted that he tried to destroy Jotunheim to prove himself in some twisted way and let go of Gungnir because Odin told him that wasn’t the way.  And he just never deals with any of that!!!  He never deals with being a Frost Giant!!!  He never deals with his family issues!!!  None of it!!! They didn’t need to have Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins, or Chris Hemsworth there to have Loki deal with their impact on his life.  He could have talked about them--could have said Thor’s name when he was reaching out to Sylvie, could have said, “I realize how I’ve been pushing everyone away because I was so afraid, I made myself untrustworthy because I couldn’t bear to be trusted, not even when Thor begged me to come home.  I regret that more dearly than I can say, so please don’t make the same mistake I did.” This could have worked with Sylvie, to establish her as a Loki, but like.  What characteristics of Sylvie actually make her a Loki variant?  What issues does she have that tell us anything about Loki at the core of the character?  Look at Kid Loki--we saw how painful it was that he killed his Thor.  Look at Old Loki--we saw that he missed his brother and couldn’t stay away.  These are things that show us elements of Loki as a character, highlight and illustrate different parts of him.  But what does Sylvie tell us about Loki as a bigger character?  That she’s angry and has trouble trusting?  I mean, we already knew that. And that’s not even getting into how weird it was to have Loki/Sylvie as a relationship then!  I mean, I don’t care about it being selfcest, bring on Loki fucking himself, I’m down for that!  But I care that the show half-assed her as a Loki because they didn’t want to get too weird about the guy based on Norse mythology where he turned into a mare to get fucked by a horse and give birth to a spider horse baby. So whatever cool or funny moments they had, all it wound up feeling really hollow to me because none of it felt like it was exploring Loki as a character containing multitudes, it was just gimmicky cameos for like 98% of it or a character they said was a Loki but told us nothing about him, they refused to tie it to Loki’s character background, they tried to tell us that these characters he’s known for a few months are the most meaningful people in his life and have spurred on tremendous personal growth despite that he never so much as talked about what was holding him back before, and it’s not just that I’m a Thor or Asgard fan, it’s that the show wasn’t really about Loki at all in its core story or arc.  And it could have been if they’d talked about his family and Asgard! And I genuinely don’t understand why that was dropped after the second episode, like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier both felt like actual natural progressions from the movies’ story, they talked about the people that weren’t there and were moving forward with their lives and dealing with some of their issues.  But the Loki series seemed to be bending over backwards to keep from mentioning the people that actually shaped Loki, from episode three on and I have no idea why.

a/n: i said i was going to post tomorrow but i couldn’t help myself. anyways, spoilers for episode 2 and 3 of loki, minor spoilers for the beginning of episode 3. final word count is 1.7k words!
read the previous part  read the next part   read the series
“How is Loki doing?” You asked Mobius, walking with him to the mess hall.
“He’s doing great. Making real progress, I would say.”
“Didn’t you have to have a meeting with Renslayer this morning because of his actions?” You asked, raising your eyebrows. His face scrunched up for a second.
“It’s like every time he is making progress, he takes two steps back.”
“That sounds more believable. You still think he’s worth all the trouble though?”
Mobius sighed slightly. “I really do believe in him. It’s not just an issue of whether I believe in him though, it’s whether Ravonna and the Timekeepers do.”
“Oh, you’re on first name basis now, with Renslayer?” You turned and grinned at Mobius, who immediately flushed after realizing his mistake.
“Not a word of this to anyone.” He said strictly, although there was a smile on his face as well.
“Yeah, yeah.” You said, standing in line with Mobius as he ordered his lunch before sitting down at a two-seat table. “Ravonna and Mobius-”
“C-7.” Mobius said strictly, although you could tell he was partly amused by your antics.
You continued in the same quiet, sing-songy voice as before.
“-on a jet ski. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.”
Mobius finished taking a sip of his drink and then applauded quietly, so as to not draw attention.
“Has anyone ever told you that you truly have all the originality of a grade-schooler?”
Before you could answer, you were interrupted by a tall man with long dark hair speed walking over to where Mobius and you were sitting.
Although he seemed to be in a hurry, you could tell that he was sizing up everybody in the room, including yourself.
“I found- oh, sorry. Didn’t see you there. Would you mind moving so that me and my partner could discuss something?” He asked politely, even smiling.
You locked eyes with him, smiling back at him.
“I’m good, thanks. You can just pull up a chair.”
His smile wavered and he maintained eye contact for a couple of moments longer before breaking it, going to a different table and pulling over a chair.
(You ignored the pointed look Mobius shot at you, like he was asking you to be the bigger person here. Unfortunately for him, you had no such intentions.)
“Right. I know how the Variant is hiding.”
Mobius leaned back.
“Talk about burying the lead. How?”
Loki smiled slightly, this smile much different from his last- he was proud of himself.
“He’s hiding in apocalypses.”
There was a moment of silence. You and Mobius exchanged a glance.
“Which one? There’s like a million all across history.” Mobius pointed out and Loki took a second to compose himself before starting his explanation.
You sat back as he explained his reasoning, watching with amusement as he put more salt and pepper into Mobius’ salad, handing him your own drink when he realized that Mobius’ drink was empty.
He gave you a nod of recognition and Mobius sent you another, even more exasperated glance as Loki poured your drink into the salad (although, in your opinion, seeing Loki grin like that made it worth it).
—— “How was Pompeii?” You asked, not even having to look up from the apocalypse case files to figure out that it was Loki who was approaching you.
He stopped for a minute, almost taken aback by your observation, before continuing and taking a seat in front of you.
“I was right, naturally.”
You scoffed slightly.
“Naturally.”
You looked up at him to find that his piercing eyes were already looking at you, almost curiously.
“You’re already sorting through the apocalypse files.”
“Naturally occurring disasters with no survivors, cross-referenced with the candy that Mobius picked up. You were confident that you were right so I figured I should start looking.”
Loki raised his eyebrows and smiled slightly.
“You’re smarter than you look. Could’ve saved me and Mobius some time.”
“He forgot to cross-reference?”
He nodded, hesitating for a moment before he grabbed some of the files that you hadn’t started looking over yet.
You looked at him appreciatively, though he wasn’t looking at you anymore.
The two of you sat there, looking at the case files in a comfortable silence for a couple of minutes before Mobius walked into your office as well.
“What’s this?” Mobius asked, taking a cursory glance at the file on top.
“Kablooie.” You said simply and Mobius sighed slightly, frustrated that he hadn’t thought of it.
He grabbed a couple of files as well, standing up as he started reading.
“I think I have something,” Loki said a couple of minutes later, splaying the case out on your desk so that everyone could see. “Class ten apocalypse. Alabama, 2050.”
You looked it over and even just with a cursory glance, you could tell that this is where the Variant was hiding- you looked over at Mobius and saw pride on his face.
“You’re gonna take my job if I’m not careful.”
“Now to pitch it to Renslayer.” You said and Mobius nodded, already halfway out of your office. He closed the door behind him and you looked at Loki. “I don’t think I’ve seen him this excited in a while. In fact, the last time I saw him this excited, I think we saw a jet ski on a mission.”
Loki smiled to himself, though the expression disappeared when he looked back at you.
“And what about you?”
“Hm?” You tilted your head slightly, caught off-guard by the question.
“What excites you?”
You held his gaze for a couple of moments, feeling uncomfortable with how he looked at you, as if he knew something about you that you didn’t know about yourself.
You finally looked away, standing up.
“We should go meet Mobius. We’ll be heading out as soon as he gets the approval.”
“You say this like it’s a sure thing.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Renslayer say no to him. Come on.”
                                                          ——
The rain sounded a hundred times louder when you were listening to it hit the roof of the Roxxcart, so loud that you could barely hear the sound of your own voice above the noise.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, positioning your reset baton defensively. The man standing by the plants seemed to hesitate slightly, although he was still much too calm for this kind of weather.
“Hurricane sale. Azaleas are half-off.”
“Could that be you?” You asked Loki, your eyes never leaving the man. Although his eyes continued to look between you and Loki, his gaze lingered on you longer.
“I… mean… I would’ve worn a suit, but it could be.”
You took a couple steps towards the man and he backed up, looking at you pleadingly.
“I don’t want to do this.” He said quietly and you tilted your head slightly, confused.
You took another step towards him.
“What-”
He grabbed your arm and a warm feeling came over your body.
A woman’s voice in your head lulled you to sleep, promising to bring you home and then everything went dark.
“Sylv, why are you acting so weird?” You asked, taking another sip of wine.
The blonde woman across from you smiled, although you could tell that she was forcing it for your sake.
“Another one of my suitors came and visited me today.” She said. You made a face and she laughed slightly.
“Complete fools, every one of them.”
“Fools for being deeply in love with me?” She asked, raising an eyebrow, almost as if she was allowing herself to play the part for a couple of brief moments.
“No, I’m above self-flagellation. They’re fools for thinking that they could ever win your heart.”
She laughed.
“And why is that?”
You leaned back in your chair.
“I have it on very good account that someone already has it.” You said and Sylvie‘s smile faded and her gaze didn’t quite meet yours, almost as if her mind was preoccupied elsewhere.
She looked back at you, her look apologetic.
The scene around you grew distorted, nothing quite clear anymore.
“I’m sorry.”
Her words repeated everywhere around you like you were in an echo chamber rather than…
Rather than…
Where were you?
The blonde woman that had been there a moment ago disappeared and with her, everything else.
When you came to, Mobius was kneeling beside you, waiting for you to wake up.
“C-7… are you okay?” He asked slowly, looking at you with more concern than you think anyone else ever has.
You propped yourself up and you looked around wildly for Loki or for the blonde woman- Sylvie- who had been in your head.
“Where are they?” You asked and you hated how desperate your voice sounded.
“They escaped. Take it easy, the Variant did a number on-”
“Mobius, I have to find her.” You said, trying to stand up only to be overwhelmed with nausea and dizziness.
Mobius supported you, keeping you from falling back onto the ground.
“I know. And we will, but we have more pressing issues right now. Come on.”
You didn’t protest, knowing that you wouldn’t be able to convince Mobius even if you promised to get him a jet ski afterwards.
What you had to do now, you would do alone.
He helped you through the portal back to the TVA and the rest of your team followed, all of them being immediately assigned to different Nexus events that were happening simultaneously.
You, being injured, were given the pass to stay back at the TVA.
You wondered if the Timekeepers knew what you were about to do, if they could’ve predicted it- after all, they were the ones who had made you, right?
You headed to the sector of the TVA where they issued TemPads, looking at the data of where all the TemPads were jumping to and from when you stumbled upon something odd- there was a TemPad that only had one jump registered in its entire history.
TVA to Lamentis-1, 2077.
Huh.
The Variant- Sylvie- whatever her name was, must’ve found out a way to stop the TemPad from feeding data into the system, but it must’ve reset when she jumped to the TVA.
You grabbed one of the TemPad’s that were out of commission for charging, unplugging it.
It was low on battery, but it would have to do.
You opened a portal for yourself using the exact same coordinates and time that they had put in and without any hesitation, you walked through.

JAY HALSTEAD
Bomb Squad Alternative
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Requested: yes
Prompts: none
Warning(s): none
Author's note: Here is another crossover between firefighter Y/N and Jay Halstead. Hope you enjoyed since I’m really proud lol. Personally I think this would be a great episode.
Requests for Jay are open again so send in your ideas! I’m thinking about putting out Christmas prompts since I’m feeling festive. Also, I’m quarantied :( went to test yesterday and I’m waiting for the results to kick in. I feel fine so I shouln’t worry but I still do yk? Anyhow, school is a b and I’m doing online atm (maybe high schools will switch to online completely until Christmas but who knows at this point).
It’s also exam weeks so that’s why I’ve been lacking time to get back to writing.
Now perpare for me to get on my knees for you at the end of this one shot. <3
~
“Everyone get out of the station!” You exclaimed, barging through the train station with the rest of 51. Your loud voices and heavy gear alerted everyone enough to get them to move back.
“What do you think you’re doing?” A police officer questioned, throwing an accusing eyebrow your way.
Your lieutenant left you to the police officer’s mercy with a nod of his head. You sighed, turning to the man but still keeping a steady pace with the rest of your team. “There is a bomb threat, we need to evacuate the train station.”
“A bomb threat? I didn’t get a call,” He fought, looking around as if the bomb might be anywhere. Which was true.
“The intelligence is on their way, but I suggest you give us some room to do our job,” Matt joined his voice with you to explain. Although he quickly returned to shouting.
Soon enough, you saw two dark clothed figures march down the stairs towards you. Your boyfriend came striding down towards all of you, his blue eyes assassinating the surrounding situation.
Until they fell on you.
He looks good, you allowed yourself to think. Admiring his lean figure - the leather jacket covering his muscular arms and proud CPD badge at his hip - you watched as he stalked towards you. The old lady that was clutching to your side shakily suddenly became invisible to your eyes.
You weren’t surprised to see his jaw tick at the sight of you, which made you shake your head in annoyance. Helping the lady catch the arms of a fellow firefighter became your priority. You watched as she walked outside on unsteady legs.
“Y/LN, Casey.” Your chief grabbed your attention, “What’s the situation?”
“Still no sight of the bomb chief,” Matt said. “We’re trying to get out as many people as possible.”
“It’s rush hour Chief,” You breathed, glancing at Jay for a second before giving Wallace your full attention. “The next train will be here in 10 minutes. If this bomb has a timer then that’s exactly when it will go off. We need the bomb squad here now.”
“Understood. Voight?”
The sergeant looked at Jay who shook his head. “Stuck in traffic.”
You caught Matt muttering a violent curse under his breath, which only tempted you to do the same.
“Chief we need help!”
Severide’s shout brought you and Matt to your senses immediately. There was no time to think as you both ran towards him with your heavy gear on both your shoulders.
“Y/N stop!”
It was Jay who made you halt in your tracks to turn around. “What?”
He reached for your elbow, and with ease pulled you away. “Look I...”
You knew what was going on in his head. His protective nature over you often interferes with many things, including your job. But not today.
“I know you’re worried Jay, okay?” You reasoned, gloved hands grabbing his forearms in reassurance. “But this is my job. Trust me - I hate that we’re put in this situation but there’s nothing we can do except have each other's back.”
Jay let out a loose breath of fear before masking it under a facade of blankness. He waved his hand at the police officers, giving them a sign to follow him. “Be careful.”
You bobbed your head before planting a kiss to his cheek and running back to the scene.
The sight in front of you broke your heart.
A tiny boy with tears coloring his face sat at the bench with his foot dangling over the edge, connected to what looked like a time bomb. He was all alone - barely even 7 years old, with a bright yellow beanie covering his blonde curls. Rosy tear stained cheeks, and blue eyes filled with fear made you drop on your knees immediately.
Carefully, you approached him. The fear that brew inside was pushed aside and you plastered on a smile. “Hi buddy. My name’s Y/N. We’re here to help you”
You seized the ticking bomb and managed to decipher the numbers. Shaking your head, you ignored the buzzing of your anxious heart and grabbed your radio, dialing. “We have three minutes chief. No time to wait for the bomb squad. I have to do it.”
***
Jay looked at the police officers who surrounded him in an uneven half circle, and shook his head. He could see the men trembling, hands shaking and beads of sweat appearing at their foreheads.
“Alright listen up,” He boomed. “We need to evacuate immediately. Threaten with arrest, I don’t care. Just get the civilians out of here.”
They nodded in sync, each man letting out a different toned response before leaving him be to watch what was revealing a few yards away. Jay wouldn’t admit it, but he was shaking inside. His fingertips itched to grab your heavily clothed body and swing you over his shoulder in an attempt to keep you safe... No matter how chauvinistic that sounded.
But Jay Halstead had decided to date a strong woman. A dedicated feminist at that - a woman that refused to be manhandled unless it was to take her to bed when she desired.
Now he watched her - you - shout and shove around the train station, desperate to do what his job was too. Was he a bad man for not really caring if that man that just brushed his expensive suit against his shoulder came out of there safe? He only had eyes on you, so that’s why he spent moments watching you work around like a hawk.
And then you kneeled, and your colleagues stepped out of the way. Without his permission, his dark brows bunched together and his eyes narrowed at your stature. What are you doing?
His answer fell from the sky quickly - although not literally. Voight and Boden strode to his side to discuss the situation.
“There is no time to wait for the bomb squad,” Boden said roughly, his jaw clenching. “If that bomb isn’t deactivated within the next 3 minutes not only is that boy going to die...everyone on this block will.”
Voight knew what he meant by that. Thousands of casualties. Not only will Chicago lose millions of dollars worth of repair if the block blows up - as first responders what came to their minds were the civilians. How many of them will die or be injured because of a simple mistake of following protocol and waiting? They had a firefighter there, on the scene, ready to disable the bomb and save them.
Only that firefighter was you. And that made their decision ten times harder to make.
But Boden was sure in you, and so was Voight. “Okay. Do what you gotta do.”
Wallace nodded, griping his radio. “Y/N. Go for it.”
Y/N? Jay couldn’t believe his ears. It completely slipped his mind that you had been trained for this. At that moment, his body and mind said no. He forgot all about equality you have been trying to tattoo into his mind. You were you at that moment. A simple girl he fell in love with and wanted to protect.
“What the hell Sarge?!”
***
“Okay,” You sighed enthusiastically, hoping to divert the boy’s attention to your relaxed posture. “I need you to be really still for me. Can you do that?”
The boy could barely nod as Sylvie held his head still in the cervical collar.
“What’s your name?” Sylvie asked him, ignoring the fact that two minutes were left on the clock. You went straight to work the moment his attention was diverted and his leg was no longer shaking.
Swiftly, you grasped the leg of his pants and pulled it up, revealing the leather that was sunk in his flesh. You winced, “His leg circulation is bad.”
“Just focus on the bomb,” She reassured you quietly.
You grabbed the equipment and started to work on disabling it. Each step was more difficult than the other. You felt yourself tremble as the end seemed to never come any closer to you no matter how much you reached for it. “Go.”
“What? We’re not leaving you.“ It was Severide who spoke, only a meter or two away from you. Shaking your head at another trap within the system you decided that you needed all the help you could get.
1 minute.
“Jay?” You murmured against the radio - Jay’s reply was instant.
“Y/N you can do this,” his voice was raspier through the line, more prominent and harsh. Nevertheless, his words soothed you.
“I need help,” you told him. “You said this man is crazy right? Well I think there’s a story here. These wires mean something. Blue, white, yellow.”
You weren’t allowed to go for it... not when so many lives were at risk. This man was smart, that much you knew. There has to be a meaning behind the colors.
Jay could help you more than anyone. You knew it. He knew it too.
Blue, white, yellow.
***
“Blue, white, yellow.” He mumbled, not allowing himself to look at his watch. You didn’t have much time, he knew it -  Jay just didn’t want a definite reminder of it.
He rocked his brain for explanations. For a clue within this case. Something.
30 seconds.
“Everyone evacuate now!” Boden shouted into his radio. Jay shut it out. His voice didn’t matter. Only you did.
Like an eagle, he searched for you and found you: crouched in front of the yellow capped boy, acting like his anchor he could hold onto. He couldn’t see how shaky you were from afar, he could only hope you were okay.
10 seconds.
“Jay!”
Yellow.
“This kid was his last target. He looks for the details,“ He explained to you. “Yellow.”
***
Like his beanie. You casted a stray glance at the boy, flashing him a tight lipped smile. The puffy beanie that was supposed to protect him from the cold just became the thing that saved his life. And the poor boy didn’t even know it.
3...
This is it.
2...
You didn’t think, only did what Jay told you. You cut through the yellow wire and stop the ticking destruction at the last second.
No sound is heard.
No man moves.
Only rigid breathing of your own manages to make its way inside your ears.
And then the boy starts to wail. His cries turn into what look like never ending sobs. You were glad he’s crying, and not in a bad way. The sound he started to make was a clear indicator of your survival. The bomb didn’t go off. You were safe. You never felt more alive.
Your friends swiped you in their arms immidiately. Every firefighter gave you a congratulation you never thought you would recieve. You just disabeled a bomb.
And it looked like you were the only one shocked.
Still shaking, your eyes searched for the man that helped you.
But Jay was already there, and by the time you turned around to search for him he had his fingertips around you. With a clean tug he pushed you against his chest and hugged you. His breathing was just as harsh as your own, but inside - he never felt prouder.
“You had my back,” you mumbled. Jay pulled a moment later, his blue eyes gazing down at you before he laughed. Laughed. “You were amazing baby.”
“You really think so?”
“I do. Now let’s get you out of here.” He smiled, slipping his hand into yours and pulling you towards the exit. You were cheered after of course, it made your heart swell with pride.
On your way outside you saw the bomb squad, standing in lines next to their equipment. “Nice work guys.” Jay said sarcastically.
The two of you made your way to the shaky boy to make sure he was alright. People were gathered outisde, now that the threat was removed. Each and every one of them had their eyes glazed with tears of relief.
Their homes were safe. Their families were too.
Boden gave you the rest of the day off, and Jay was the one to drive you home.
“Let’s hope our work doesn’t clash like that ever again.”
“I agree,” Jay said quietly and pressed his lips safely against yours.

CHICAGO FIRE SEASON 9 THOUGHTS CHARACTER GROWTH
If you haven’t watched season 9, this may contain spoilers.
Tumblr media
Apart from the Stellaride engagement, Brettsey finally got together after all the angst and wait. That scorching and intense Brettsey first-time scene, the thing I have loved the most about season 9 of Chicago Fire, was the personal and professional growth that the characters had.
1. Kelly –Although there was a moment this season where Kelly shut down this season, he managed to get it together and talk to Stella about what was bothering before he let it go on for too long, like in season 7, where he was reckless with his life, and Stella had to take a break. I appreciate that when he was thinking and discussing proposing to Stella, he considered her previous toxic marriage and her feelings about being engaged and getting married.
2. Stella –I’ve always loved that Stella knows when to take a step back from a person or situation for her well-being, even if it is the person she loves. She eventually did it with Grant, and she has done it with Kelly a few times, and there was no exception this season. But luckily, Kelly got it together. But the biggest thing that happened this season was her professional growth from Girls on Fire to her being a woman of colour who made Lieutenant despite the obstacles. They were all so proud of her.
3. Sylvie –This season, we saw Sylvie put herself first even it hurt her to do it and hurt Matt, the person she is in love with.
In the past, we have witnessed Sylvie be poorly treated, made to feel like she’s not enough, be someone’s second thought, be seen when it is convenient for them or not have her feelings taken into account.
It happened with Harrison, Cruz to an extent, Antonio and Kyle. Harrison treated her poorly, Cruz sometimes forgot to take her feelings and needs into account (they just weren’t suitable for each, obviously), Antonio could never put her first. Honestly, he never really tried, and Kyle wanted her to change some things so she would fit his idea of a Chaplin’s small-town wife. But, even when she made changes and sacrifices, they still made her feel like she wasn’t enough. It was always at the end of her relationships that Sylvie managed to prioritise herself either by leaving, asking for more or something different.
But this season, she did not allow herself to be consolation prize or second place to Gabby (even though she never was). Instead, she recognised her worth and realised she deserved more because Matt kept showing her this even if he didn’t realise that that was what he was doing.
Because of Matt, Sylvie realised she deserves to have and go for the partner she wants with no compromise on either of their parts. And even though she was scared, Sylvie went for the partner she wanted, no compromise, and we got BRETTSEY. (And also Violet.)
Sylvie Brett deserves to be loved unconditionally without making sacrifices or changes. And she is, by Matt Casey.
For season 10, I am hoping we get to see Sylvie have more professional acknowledgements and achievements. She DESERVES it, especially with all the partners she has had to take on.
4. Matt –Matt was the character I thought had the most growth to me, and this was surprising to me because he has been here since day 1. Matt Casey went on an emotional rollercoaster this season, but he managed to become the happiest and most loved he’s ever been.
After everything Matt has been through and how selfless he is, he deserves to be happy, safe, listened to, included, and put first.
We haven’t seen Matt be put first since Hallie and the start of his relationship with Gabby. Even though they got back together, Hallie put him first by acknowledging they couldn’t carry on for much longer because they didn’t want the same things. She didn’t want kids, he did, and she just wanted him to be happy. When Hallie passed away, for some time, Gabby managed to put her romantic feelings aside and be there for him as a friend. But I think this was the last time we saw Matt, his wellbeing and feelings be someone’s priority. After this, there were many situations where he was the last priority or just not taken into account.
But I think what Matt has realised is that HE HAS TO PUT HIMSELF FIRST. He can’t keep putting aside his happiness to keep the people he loves happy, and he is allowed to fight for what he wants to be happy. He deserves to have a partner that will be there for him, listen and include him, take what he says and feels into account and love him unconditionally. All this led him to the woman that showed him these things, Sylvie Brett.
Matt reaching out and telling Sylvie about his head injury was such a big deal to me because I can’t remember the last time he asked for help, most of the time, people reach out to him, or he tries to figure it out on his own. For example, his grief after Hallie died, his original head injury, his house burning down. In these situations, initially, he tries to deal with it on his own and eventually his friends have to go to him.
But with Sylvie, he trusts her with everything, including his worst fears.
Then with Matt’s love confession to Sylvie, I was just so PROUD of him. He told Sylvie that he was in love with her even if that didn’t change anything for her.
He fought for her and his happiness but still managed to put her first and be respectful of her. This love confession was everything! We got Brettsey
Matt Casey is more than enough for Sylvie Brett. She wants him and the life they are going to build together. Sylvie isn’t chasing more
Then when he was waiting for an answer from Sylvie after his love confession, let us all just appreciate that he didn't do something reckless or impulsive whilst he was spinning out. 😂😂
5. Mouch –I just adored seeing Mouch get some recognition this season. He is a fantastic character. And it wasn’t just that Mouch received a medal, but I loved how open Ritter and Gallo were about how much they respect him. He deserves it.

an obligatory analysis of sylvie’s character (aka: who betrayed who?)
in case you can’t tell, i like sylvie. but here’s a big fuckin post where i share my thoughts on her role in the finale in a sort of disjointed kind of way.
NOTE: this isn’t about sylki. i don’t ship it personally, but that isn’t really relevant to this at all. this also doesn’t go into the criticisms i have of the show because this isn’t really the place for that. maybe i can do that later, whatever.
also, this is gonna be a long post. i have a lot of thoughts.
sylvie’s introduction and motivations
Tumblr media
one of the first things we learn about sylvie is her opposition to the tva. (okay, it’s literally the first thing, whatever.) in episode 3, we get to see her entire plan - overthrow whoever’s running the tva, and... that’s it. loki questions her about the power vacuum that would leave, to which she shows that she’s not interested in running the tva. (this is also stated in ep 2.) her goals are clear. she wants rid of the entire organisation, and doesn’t care about or want the sort of power that would come with pulling the strings.
her reasoning for this seems pretty simple. she doesn’t want the power ruling the tva would entail because she knows what it’s like to be on the other end of that deal. she had everything taken from her as a child, and doesn’t want that to happen to anybody else. she believes that that kind of power belongs to nobody, not even herself.
this easily establishes her as a character who, despite having an ego, has principles that trump everything else. she’s very dedicated to her cause; the ‘never at the expense of the mission’ line in ep 3 just states it out loud. her entire life has been dedicated to this cause. this is a good time to segue into the next section...
sylvie’s personality, character and flaws
Tumblr media
she’s fuckin stabby.
despite only really being present for 4 out of the 6 episodes of the show, we manage to get a pretty good idea of sylvie’s personality right from the start thanks to episode 3 being largely a character study with both her and loki. she’s shown as a very competent and strong character - however, contrary to marvel’s guidebook on writing female characters, those aren’t personality traits. what we actually see of her is that she’s very confident, and has a tendency to be rude or dismissive of other people. episode 3 has a bunch of examples of this, but the easiest one to point to is the fireworks scene. after loki does something nice to cheer her up, something which visibly works, her response is to waive it away as ‘not bad’.
her coldness in this scene even after bonding with loki is likely due to her upbringing. sylvie spent the majority of her life, including her childhood, on the run, unable to form relationships with people who weren’t moments away from dying. it feels a bit redundant for me to point this out, but this is, as they say in the medical field, mega fucking traumatic. not only did sylvie not have the opportunity to form these kinds of connections, she couldn’t even develop the ability to form them. loki is a bandaid to cover a bullet hole in this regard, one she needs years to heal from. while she does bond with him to an extent, she is physically unable to trust him to the point where they can be considered close.
another thing we learn about sylvie is that she’s very violent - and that she enjoys it. being a character that grew up running from an organisation that wanted her dead, it makes sense for her first instinct to be confrontational. however, despite having to fight to survive, she visibly takes pleasure from fighting. this was brought up in an interview with sophia (that i am not going to link here, because tumblr is kind of a hellsite and i’m not in the mood for that today). here’s a nice extract instead.
“She's not trained like Loki is,” Di Martino continues. “She can't do some of the flourishes that he would, but she's figured out how to brawl. She's a street fighter and she loves it. That was a really great key to unlocking part of Sylvie for me, was how much she just loves a fight. She knows that she's either going to win, or if she isn't going to win, she'll survive. She's that damaged character who's dangerous because she knows she can survive.”
her tendency towards violence is actually a key part of sylvie’s character. this works as both a strength and a flaw. on the one hand, she’s able to survive scrapes most other characters wouldn’t, and she knows that. she’s not one to freeze in most (note: most) scenarios, because she knows what to expect. on the other hand, violence isn’t always the answer, and she’s very unlikely to consider any other option than a fight.
her enchantment abilities tie into this - they’re another weapon for her to use, and one she’s not afraid to call on. however, her eagerness to enchant people without hesitation puts her in a pretty bad place morally. her enchantment clearly leaves hunter c-20 traumatised, and yet she’s more than willing to enchant people for the sake of the mission. she’s also relatively dismissive of human sentient lives. an early example of this is in episode 2, where loki asks her if the person she had enchanted was dead, to which she responds with a casual ‘they usually survive’. additionally, she’s more than willing to fight the guards on the train in episode 3, despite them seeing her as a threat for completely understandable reasons.
in the case of the guards, her reasoning for placing such little value on their lives is likely that they’re about to die anyways. everyone on lamentis is doomed, so from her point of view, whether they die at her hands or at the hands of the moon from majora’s mask isn’t really important. however, c-20 is a different story. sylvie places next to no value on the lives of the tva’s workers, content to slaughter them en masse for the sake of her goal. this is despite her knowing that every one of the tva workers is a variant plucked from the sacred timeline. this sets up a weird sort of transactional nature in how sylvie views other people - to her, they’re less important than the mission, and she doesn’t hesitate to eliminate threats.
was this a long section? this was a long section. i would like to call back to the fact that this is not a sylki post for this next part. and also to praise anyone that got this far, because fucking hell, is this excessively long or what? who would have the time to write this out?
sylvie’s bond with loki
Tumblr media
i want to go back to that whole thing about her relationship with loki. he’s the first person she’s really spoken to since she was a child who isn’t about to face imminent death. furthermore, despite their differences, they have quite a lot in common - enough to hit it off surprising well for two people who kind of want to kill each other. they’re able to relate on common ground like frigga, and even though they clash due to loki’s initial carelessness, they’re overall able to get along well enough aside from occasional bickering. the blanket scene from episode 5 is probably the best example of this. sylvie allows herself, albeit briefly, to be vulnerable around loki.
except, not really. one of the first things she does is tries to ensure he won’t betray her. i’ve seen somebody cite this before as proof that her fondness towards him isn’t real, and that she was planning on betraying him from the start, hence why it was on her mind. that’s definitely possible, but i think it’s far more likely that it’s just her difficulties connecting to people stopping her from feeling safe around him even as they share a nice moment. she really does seem to care about loki - an easy example of this is her asking how he is during episode 4 without being prompted. she’s just unable to properly process these kinds of feelings due to an incomprehensible amount of trauma. as loki puts it, she can’t trust.
and loki can’t be trusted. she knows - or at least, thinks she knows - his nature as a trickster and a villain. loki embodies a part of sylvie that she considers herself completely separate from; the tva-approved liar whose purpose is to bring out the best in others. while she does show him more decency than to treat him like that, at the end of the day, he represents something that makes her deeply uncomfortable, hence her rejection of the loki name. despite what they have in common, loki is an incredibly difficult person to trust, especially for somebody who has deep-rooted trust issues. so, this brings us onto...
who betrayed who?
Tumblr media
so, sylvie and loki make it to kang’s castle. after all this time, she’s finally about to reach her life’s goal. she’s clearly nervous - this is out of her comfort zone, unlike most fights. loki reassures her, and they head in. they meet kang, learn the true nature of the tva, have the opportunity to kill him...
and loki stops her.
loki’s motivations are left ambiguous. the uncharitable interpretation is that he wants to rule the tva for himself, as per kang’s offer. he’s expressed such an interest to sylvie before. for the loki we know in avengers 1, this seems perfectly in character.
however, for the loki we’ve seen in the show, there’s a different option. he believes kang’s threat that there are multiple of him, and that killing him won’t solve anything. to him, he isn’t willing to risk unknown horrors for the sake of taking his revenge out on kang. this is the loki who offered diplomacy and guile to counteract sylvie’s brute force.
but sylvie, who can’t trust, assumes the worst.
to her, loki was the one who betrayed her. they had a plan - find whoever pulls the strings, and destroy them. to her, loki’s hesitation isn’t caution, but treachery. taking kang’s offer to rule the tva is exactly what she thinks she should’ve expected from the guy who hurts everybody who loves him. her fight or flight responses kick in, and she chooses the one she always chooses. loki’s attempts to reassure her fall on deaf ears, not just because she doesn’t want to trust him, but because she’s physically incapable of it. she makes the short-sighted decision of brute force, just like she did back on lamentis, because it’s all she’s ever known, and the cause she’s dedicated her life to.
from the outside, it looks like sylvie was the one who betrayed loki, but things look pretty different from where she’s standing.
this is why i take issue with people calling sylvie a ‘villain’ or questioning whether this was her plan for the start. in my opinion, her motivations line up pretty clearly as a creature of habit, one who panics at the first hint of smoke and pushes away the first person she’s been able to bond with for the sake of self-preservation. did she make the wrong decision? unquestionably - the effects of her actions will no doubt plague the multiverse (and the mcu, for us) for as long as they go unchecked. but she made the only decision she was capable of making, and that’s not villainous, just tragic.
conclusion
Tumblr media
well, this is a kind of depressing way to finish this post. for what it’s worth, though, i don’t think sylvie is a doomed character. regardless of how brief it was, she did show a real connection with loki. just because something requires a lot of healing doesn’t make it impossible. this is why i like sylvie as a character so much; she’s deeply flawed and complex, but that complexity makes her interesting, and relatable. marvel has a long history of sexy lamps and supposed ‘tortured backstories’, but sylvie is the first time they paid attention to this with their character writing without having to give somebody a wholeass prequel movie. with loki confirmed to appear in multiverse of madness, i’m hoping we see more of sylvie - not as a villain, but as a hero who can overcome her past experiences and rise to better things.
or maybe another kang shows up and kills her immediately. who knows.

Riding in Cars With Lokis
Fandom: Loki Rating: T Word Count: 2354
Summary: Sometimes it's just a man in his pizza-delivery vehicle against the world.
There was a certain nobility to the way the child, the old man, and, yeah, even the alligator turned and marched away from them. The drab, end-of-time wasteland before them. The living storm of Alioth at their backs. Mobius hated to interrupt it. But then, hadn’t his entire existence at the TVA been about interrupting moments in progress? That had definitely included spoiling scenes more dramatic than this one. Gosh, he just couldn’t help going the expedient route.
“Hang on,” he told the trio of retreating Lokis. “Can I offer you fellas a ride or something?”
“Aren’t you going now?” Classic Loki asked.
“I can leave from anywhere,” Mobius told him, spreading his arms and waggling the hand that held the TemPad. “Might as well save you three the walk. I parked my car at the bottom of the hill.”
“Or maybe,” Sylvie said sarcastically, “that car will attract Alioth’s attention again and you’ll fuck up our plan.” She motioned between herself and the Loki Mobius knew best.
He frowned admonishingly at her.
“I was gonna tell you that you were my favourite.”
“Well that’s hardly fair,” Loki complained. “You barely know her at—”
“We accept your offer,” the child Variant cut across him, nodding to Mobius.
“Great!” Mobius said. He was happy to avoid a tug of war where he was the rope and the people at either end were known to wield sharp weapons. “Gotta warn you though, the car still smells a little like pizza.”
“Sir, we live in a bowling alley that even an apocalypse couldn’t rid of its stench of rented footwear,” Classic Loki informed him.
“I can vouch for that,” Loki chimed in. “It’s really quite awful.”
What should have been awful-er still, Mobius thought, was saying goodbye to his real favourite Loki, that mischievous scamp. That desperate trickster. He thought those things with full admiration now, but he kept a lid on any last-minute waterworks, managing not to cry into Loki’s shoulder when the man embraced him and said they were friends. It was bearable because they’d already been through worse than this; both had been pruned to anticipated death, so everything else was a bonus. Of his two best friends, the guy Mobius was giving a final squeeze had turned out to be the friend who hadn’t lied to his face. The Loki was the loyal one. Go figure.
He still told Sylvie she was his favourite, just to needle Loki. Hopefully, a final playfully-irritating interaction would drive him to succeed in what had to be done.
With that, Mobius and the others trooped off down the hill. He’d been here and there as an Analyst, popping up wherever he was sent on the Sacred Timeline, but this was the first time he didn’t look back. He would do like everybody else did and concentrate on going forward for once.
“Well,” he said, settling into the driver’s seat while Classic Loki took shotgun and the kid and the alligator scrambled into the back, “if you guys are anything like Sylvie, I’m guessing you’ll ignore me when I tell you to put your seatbelts on.”
“What are seatbelts?” Classic Loki asked, hunched to accommodate the height of his helmet.
“I’ve never been in a car before,” Kid Loki supplied.
Alligator Loki growled. Mobius understood that the elder Loki seemed to be able to interpret this reptilian communication, but when he heard it, he just wished that his two backseat passengers hadn’t decided that it was the alligator who should sit directly behind the driver’s seat. Right where Mobius couldn’t see him when he made those distressing noises.
“Never mind,” Mobius told them, turning the key in the ignition. “Just try to keep your hands and horns inside the vehicle and we’ll be fine.” He shifted into Drive and repeated it to himself at a mumble: “We’ll be fine.”
As he drove—bouncing across uneven terrain, the car’s shitty suspension squealing like the pig version of Loki that could very well be out there somewhere—his gaze flicked from the grey sky to the fuel gauge. Man, running on empty at the end of time. That was kind of a bummer. It wasn’t like they could stop for gas either. Couldn’t squeegee the apocalyptic crude off the windshield or run into the gas station for snacks.
“Oh,” Mobius said aloud, “that reminds me.”
One hand on the wheel, he patted his pockets with the other. In the one not containing the TemPad, he found it.
“Here ya go.”
He tossed the opened pack of Kablooie into the back for the kid.
“What’s this?” the little Loki asked.
“Kablooie! It’s gum! I took it from the TVA in case of… I stole it out of spite,” Mobius admitted. He caught the kid’s skeptical stare in the rear-view mirror and tried to focus on that instead of the purple, bruise-like cloud of Alioth he could see if he looked slightly higher. “Take a stick and pass it to Mr. Classic up here.”
Mobius trained his eyes on the horizon again, mostly just driving in the general direction of Away From Alioth, with Classic Loki’s occasional, vague input of a loose gesture towards some decrepit landmark or other. To Mobius, it was just a bunch of junk, but to these two, he got that wrecked buildings and abandoned cars were significant markers on the map they carried around in their heads.
He heard the crinkle of Classic Loki removing the foil from his gum, then the pack landed on the dashboard. It slid back and forth on the vinyl as they bumped along. They themselves were silent—even the alligator was keeping his thoughts to himself, apparently—and Mobius began to ruminate. He was actually in serious danger of getting bogged down in his fears for the pair of Lokis they’d left behind when the young one distracted him.
“I like this Kablooie. ANOTHER!”
“Another?” Mobius repeated. “Whaddaya mean ‘another’? Does it lose its flavour really fast?”
“I ate it.”
“You ate it? Like, swallowed it?”
“So did I,” Classic Loki said. “Was I not supposed to?”
Mobius shot him an exasperated look and the old man grinned. His teeth were only lightly tinged with blue. Mobius sighed.
“Is it not food?” Kid Loki demanded. “I thought you said it was food.”
“I said it was gum!” Mobius corrected.
“Is gum not food?”
“It’s candy! Don’t you have can—” He stopped himself when he realized he’d had this conversation before. Alright, so they didn’t have candy on Asgard. Maybe the kid hadn’t been pruned long enough to come across any in this place either. Or he had and he’d swallowed it exactly the way he’d just done with the Kablooie.
Mobius grabbed the gum off the dash the next time it skated his way and tossed it into Classic Loki’s lap.
“This time, chew,” he instructed.
“I’m afraid I may not have the chance…” the Loki told him slowly.
When Mobius glanced at him, Classic Loki had his head (and horns—it was his responsibility if that helmet fell off because Mobius was not going to listen to another Loki tell him to turn around and drive back towards the thing trying to kill them) out the window, craning to look behind them. Mobius could guess what he was staring at. Without looking, he could feel the change in the air as Alioth’s mass spread towards them.
“Let me out,” Classic Loki said quietly.
Mobius didn’t argue. Far be it from him to deny a Loki control over their own destiny. (Ok, maybe that was a fairly new stance, but he’d learned a lot lately. Like he’d already told these guys, it was never too late to change.)
He eased down on the brakes. The last thing he needed was to send that alligator flying through the windshield.
“You’re doing a brave thing,” Mobius told Classic Loki as the man took a heavy breath and shouldered the car door open.
“Shut up,” Classic Loki commanded mildly. He hadn’t climbed out yet. Mobius wondered whether he was marshalling his magic or his nerve. “I’d bet these horns you weren’t paying lip service to that other Loki within your first hours of meeting him.”
“It’s not lip ser— You know what, ok. You’re doing a stupid thing.”
“Good!”
“You against that cloud monster? No chance, pal.”
“Better!”
“You see this kid in the back?” Mobius jerked his thumb to indicate Kid Loki. “If you get killed, it’ll totally mess him up. One man’s honourable sacrifice is another man’s childhood trauma.”
“If I may interject,” Kid Loki said, leaning forward between the front seats and bringing a whiff of Kablooie. “I’ve already stabbed my brother and ended up in this place. I’m not sure things can get much worse.”
But Mobius could tell Classic Loki was too in his own head at this point, psyching himself up.
“Yes, I’ve traumatized him! Only a Loki can destroy another Loki!”
“That’s the spirit!” Mobius encouraged, slapping the old guy on the shoulder.
Classic Loki turned to him with an expression of chastisement.
“I mean, fuck you, man,” Mobius backtracked.
“Fuck you!” Loki crowed.
He gripped the doorframe and hauled himself out of the car. When he slammed it after himself, Mobius grinned, leaning across the seat to level a finger at him.
“Nah, fuck you! I hope I never meet another Loki!”
“Ah,” Classic Loki told him, untangling his cape from his legs so that the wind of Alioth’s storm caught it and set it majestically rippling, “you should be so lucky!”
This time, Mobius was going to let him have his moment. He took his foot off the brake and floored the little pizza-mobile beyond what it could reasonably take, judging by the groan that Alligator Loki challenged with a grating rumble of his own. Mobius could talk about that—he should talk about that. He’d talk and keep Kid Loki’s mind off the likely imminent demise of his comrade, because Mobius really did believe in the potential trauma something like that could inflict upon a kid. Even if the kid were several hundred years old and had already been through the ringer in terms of deeply upsetting life events. Losing your friends hurt.
Mobius rubbed his chest where the pruning end of the baton had touched him on Ravonna’s orders.
“So, you’re sure the alligator’s one of you guys?” he asked, glancing quickly at the rear-view mirror only to see the kid fully turned around in his seat, staring out the back window. Mobius’s eyes widened as a green-tinged city grew into the sky. The older the Loki, the trickier they got, it seemed.
“You already asked us that,” the kid said.
“I’m asking again. And can you try to keep him where I can see him? I keep thinking he’s going to wriggle under my seat and close his jaws around my ankle or something.”
The young Loki muttered something.
“What was that?” Mobius asked, adjusting his sweaty palms on the steering wheel.
“I said ‘no problem,’” Loki offered. He hefted the alligator across his lap, holding it so its head was high enough to see out the side window.
Mobius did not believe for a second the kid had said ‘no problem,’ but he’d let it go.
“Doesn’t he seem a little… I don’t know… toothy to you?”
He saw Loki’s shrug in the mirror.
“More teeth through which to lie.”
“Yeah, I guess that’s true,” Mobius acknowledged. When the alligator groaned, it sounded oddly pleased, which wasn’t really any less unsettling than the other noises Mobius had heard him make.
“What was she like? The woman?”
“Oh, Sylvie?” But of course Sylvie, Mobius knew. He hadn’t seen another female Loki in this desolate place, and he hadn’t seen another person besides a Loki. “Impatient, persuasive, bossy.” Mobius smiled fondly. “I rescued her and yet immediately she was backseat driving.”
“I think I’d’ve liked her. Do you think she’d’ve liked me?”
Mobius felt a tightness in his chest and swept his eyes over the low, pale hills.
“They’ll have to come back this way,” he said, “when it’s over.”
“They won’t,” Kid Loki countered.
“I guess we can’t say for sure, but they got here once. It’s always easier to get back to a place you’ve been before.”
“They won’t come back here because they won’t win,” the boy clarified. “Lokis don’t win.”
Mobius searched his mind and the view for something reassuring to say. His gaze landed back on the mirror, where the scale model of Asgard collapsing beneath Alioth’s billowing onslaught didn’t help one bit.
“Sometimes they do,” he said lamely.
“Don’t lie to me,” Loki suggested in a voice that was very young and very tired.
Mobius blinked quickly and felt what he’d felt in 16th-century France and 21st-century Alabama: the apparently un-TVA urge to step outside his role and comfort someone. What was his role now? Comforting might’ve been exactly what he should’ve been doing.
“Maybe one hasn’t yet, but those two could. They believe they can do it.”
“Belief is nothing. I can believe myself King of this land and it won’t undo the fact that a mob of Lokis tore apart my primary throne room today.”
“Your primary throne room?”
“Naturally, I have backups,” Loki said. “To live in a make-believe world is to die all the sooner. To live in reality is to have contingency plans. Belief is foolish. You can’t change what all Lokis know to be true.”
In typical Loki fashion, this one was really starting to annoy him, but in typical Mobius fashion, he could feel himself caring all the more because the kid was difficult and contrary and self-aggrandizing and indulgently nihilistic.
“I know another thing about Lokis,” Mobius warned.
He waited for the kid to meet his eye in the mirror, the storm they were barely outstripping surging up to its most threatening size yet, a dark backdrop for a dark-haired boy.
Mobius smiled as the sky flashed the green of enchantment.
“A Loki loves to be right.”

Loki x Sylvie Songfic: Tonight my dear, the end of time. For Sylki week: Day 2: Song lyrics. @sylkiweek
Song: End of time by Lacuna Coil.
(Masterlist of my Sylki fanfiction can be found here.)
---
"You've built your life above the sin. You hold my hand before the end comes, Forgiving me, For what I've done 'till the end of days."
It's the end of the world. Or the end of this world, at least. He has left them stranded at this dying planet through a series of unfortunate accidents that could have been avoided if only he had been more careful.
Perhaps this is what he deserves for all the evil he has ever committed- the slaughter of innocents, some by his own hands, the destruction of New York- and everything he, or the version of him in the Sacred Timeline TM, is yet to do- including the events that lead to the death of his own mother.
Yes, this is a just punishment for his crimes, indeed.
There is a loud boom in the background that pulls him out of his contemplation and into the harsh present. Debris are falling across the purple sky, like leaves in autumn that have lost their right to leave. They fall into the ground in the distance, shattering houses and barren lands alike, and in the lake in front of them that has stilled, as if in terror. Sylvie sits motionless, the reflection of the death and destruction in her iris scaled down to a ridiculously miniscule size, as if it is insignificant.
She looks at him and offers him a tiny smile, and it is indeed insignificant, everything around them. The look in her eyes says something soft, something warm, like she sees him for who he is, like she sees his sharp edges and knows those are not the edges of a blade forged to kill, but that of a broken glass- beautiful in its entirety, but cruelly drawing out the blood of those who dare to break it.
If he believed in earthly religions, he would say the look in her eyes was like a message from Heaven, declaring the forgiveness of his sin, granted in his last moments.
She gently touches his arm.
---
"'Cause I belong to you, 'Cause I am part of you. I am dying in your arms. It's time to go, I can make it through"
He looks down at where her skin meets his. It's a simple, innocent touch, yet it speaks entire libraries worth of words in a language that he has never known before
She is very similar to him, but not an exact replica, like how a mirror flips one's silhouette and every single feature. She is similar enough for him to know what she feels, yet differs in her thoughts and actions.
Her grip grows tighter, and she reaches for his hand. She decides to fight, to change the fate of Lamentis-1, to use every bit of the magic in her to deflect the pieces of the moon, force in into a new trajectory, forge a new path for it. She intertwines their fingers until they are one, and the timelines that were forcefully bound into one start branching out again.
---
"I've come to realise, Tonight my dear The end of time Is not so far away. We cannot pray To save our lives"
They are Lokis. They survive. Even when they have no aces up their sleeves, they find the opportunity to steal one from the hands of the enemy. They are not giving up.
But in the silence of the elevator, the aura of defeat is prominent. They steal glances at each other, committing it to memory, so when the time comes to draw the last breath, it is not wasted on hatred.
There's a clenching in her stomach she cannot quite explain. It's different from her first time in his wretched prison. The fear and hatred is constant, but it is mixed with something that tastes like the salty teardrops shed during a farewell.
The collars on their necks are tight, the shackles on their hands without a key. The urge to pull a Houdini is strong, and they keep the hope that they might find a worthy assistant yet.
The door opens, revealing the path to the timekeepers, to the end of the road for them.
---
"I can feel you And I think that Everything you wanted in me Was the mirror of your dreams. But I couldn't believe what you'd say."
It has all been a lie. There never were any Timekeepers. She has done what she had set out to do, and all she has to show for is are the disembodied heads of the androids at her feet.
She doesn't know where to go from here.
He is standing in front of her, with his hands on her shoulders, his eyes on hers, his breathing uneven, leaving her heart dancing like an unruly tornado in her ribcage, making debris out of the walls she has built over the centuries.
She understands, at least a part of it. She feels it surging through her bloodstream too.
This is new for her as well, and dread accompanies the hope. Uncertain of what he would say, she stares at him, as the pruning stick finds its way into his core, and he starts fading right in front of her.
---
"As I belong to you, My flesh and blood in you. I am burning in this fire. It's time to go, I can't make it through"
She understands it fully now. While the timelines found a way to split into two, giving rise to two Lokis, they also found a way to tangle them together with this bond between them, unite them into one.
She has one good memory- the memory of him serenading her on the doomed train in Lamentis-1. When she sings, she sings "Come home".
Neither of them have a world they can call home anymore, or a place in the timelines. But her mother always told her "Home is where the heart is", and she finally knows where their hearts are.
She is going to bring him home.
Sylvie prunes herself.
---
"I'm coming home again And now I know where I belong. Reeling from my instincts 'Cause I realize I'm not alone"
She has lived in apocalypses, watched people go on with their lives unaware of the danger that would soon befall them, watched them cower together in fear as they pray for a miracle, and watched them fight each other in the vain hope of finding a safe passage out of death's jaws.
This world has no such sight.
This world is empty, dead, cold. She is all alone as far as her eyes allow her to see, the sense of loneliness amplified by the lack of her variant by her side. Something roars in the distance, something purple and dangerous and grander than she is. This is its home, its hunting ground, and she is his prey.
So is he.
She is determined to find him, to save him, to make sure neither of them is alone anymore.
---
"I've come to realise, Tonight my dear The end of time Is not so far away. We cannot pray To save our lives"
She pulls the flimsy green blanket closer, like it can shield her from the dangers around. She used to camp out in Roxxcart with stolen electronic devices and watch movies from various eras. She has seen many scenes where the hero and the heroine have a little picnic in a garden, lying on a blanket under the blue skies, feasting on delicacies.
The sky is far from blue, the patch of grass barely resembles a garden, the blanket thin, and the lack of food apparent by the growing pang of hunger in her stomach.
But the feeling in her chest is the one she imagines the heroine experiences when her hero presents her with a flower as a token of his affection.
Flowers wither and die. She has never adorned her hair with floral crowns, choosing metals instead. She prefers things which are strong, lasting.
She prefers everything he is. She prefers the daggers he conjures for her, to be used in this upcoming battle.
They are at the end of time, having run out of it. She is determined to protect him at all costs, but there's a high probability that one or both of them may not make it out of this alive.
Yet, as the end approaches, all she can think of is the possibility of a new beginning.
---
"I've come to realise, Tonight my friend The end of time It's not so far away. We cannot pray To save our lives"
The purple cloud turns green. Alioth the devourer is tamed, their magical collar wrapped tightly around its neck.
The cloud parts, making the citadel visible.
This is it. They are about to confront The one at the end of time, the puppet master.
Loki's grip on Sylvie's hand tightens.
It's time to cut the strings.

‘Loki’ Breakout Sophia Di Martino on Loki’s Coming Out and Tom Hiddleston’s Famous Lecture | Variety
When Sophia Di Martino first auditioned for the Disney Plus series “Loki,” it was in September 2019. A working actor since 2004, the British native has appeared on several British TV series, including “Flowers” and “Election Spy,” and she had supporting role in the 2019 film “Yesterday,” but she hadn’t ever quite landed the breakout role that could move her career to a larger stage.
Enter Sylvie. Introduced at the end of Episode 2 the Marvel Studios “Loki,” she is a “variant” of Tom Hiddleston’s beloved god of mischief, someone who had the same inception point as Loki but whose life unfolded much differently. In Episode 3, Sylvie and Loki spend pretty much the entire hour getting to know each other — and making clear just how critical Sylvie is to the larger story.
Naturally, this kind of role is a massive opportunity, which made how Di Martino ultimately landed it even more shocking to her.
“It was the shortest casting experience I think I’ve ever had,” she says with bewilderment. “I did an audition tape with a very short scene. I wasn’t asked to do it again, and I couldn’t meet anyone because I was heavily pregnant at the time and I couldn’t travel. Tom was in the U.S., everyone else was in the U.S. So we didn’t get to screen test or anything. So I just got the job on the back of this tape, which never happens, and especially with a job like this! It was extremely quick and quite surprising to all involved. Me and my agent were both like, ‘Really? Are you sure? This is crazy? Okay, fine! We’ll do it! We’re in!'”
Once she got the role, however, Di Martino stepped inside Marvel Studios’ vibranium-clad cone of silence. And while she says she’s good at keeping a secret, finally getting to talk about the experience is a massive relief.
“I got this job in September 2019 and only today is the first day I can talk about Sylvie,” she says. “So it’s been quite hard!”
Sylvie really does not see herself as a “Loki.” So how much did you draw from Tom Hiddleston’s performance in his role as Loki when shaping your character?
I looked at his performance, but I try not to be shaped by it too much. Sylvie has had a very different backstory to Loki. She’s a different person, and that was really important to us right from the beginning. When [director] Kate [Herron] pitched me the idea when I finally got the job, and she was able to tell me a bit more about it, it was very clear that Sylvia was Sylvie. And she’s not Lady Loki from the comics. I mean, the show is inspired by the comics, but this is a brand new backstory in a brand new story. And so I wanted to make her my own.
You will see, at times throughout the series, that Tom and I do very similar things, like our physicality is similar or when we choreographed fight scenes, we’ll mirror each other. And that’s all purposely done. And then the rest of it I’ve kind of just made up as I go along.
Tom Hiddleston conducted his famous Loki lecture in advance of the show — did you have a chance to go to it?
Yeah, I was there. It’s one of those things where you can say, ‘I was there!’ It was super interesting and important for me to listen to. He knows so much about the character. He’s been with that character for 10 years. He knows that character unlike anyone else in the world. And to hear all of that information and be able to ask him any question was just really, really important and fun. Like, what a great way to start a job. It got everyone really excited about the show.
How did you and Tom and Kate Herron talk about the scene in which Loki comes out — to the audience, anyway — as bisexual?
I remember Kate being really passionate about it, and that she wanted that to be represented in the show. I think people have been waiting a long time for it. The comic books allude to it and even the Norse mythology, I think. It’s been around for so long, and it was really important to her to have that in the show. But we tried not to let that affect the way we were playing it, you know. We’re just playing it like it’s quite natural conversation between two friends — well, two acquaintances, at that point. So we tried not to give it too much weight, but we knew in the back of our minds how important it was to a lot of people. And I’ve got to say how happy it makes me that people are happy to see that.
A lot of people noticed that the lighting on Lamentis-1 was reminiscent of the bisexual flag. Did Kate take about that being on purpose?
I can’t remember her actually talking about being on purpose. But I know Kate Herron, and I think it probably it was. I think she was probably like, this is gonna be purple, pink and blue, guys! I mean, it looks beautiful.
Tell me a little about yourself. I’d read that you had always even since you were young been really keen on acting?
Yeah, I was one of those annoying kids who’s always like trying to get my sister to do plays in the living room, and always casting myself in the better part and having her play like the Cinderella character. I think it was just an excuse to boss her around. [Laughs] I was one of those really bossy kids. I’ve always I always enjoyed acting at school — I didn’t really know that acting was a job that I could do until I was a little bit older. I wasn’t the kind of kid who would say I want to be an actor, because I think my parents would have just laughed at me. A ridiculous idea! No one in my family is in that world, and it wasn’t really within my grasp. So it was always a little dream that I kept to myself, really. And then I’ve just been quietly chipping away at it for the past 25 years, and here I am!
Owen Wilson has talked about how he was aware of the MCU, but not necessarily the most super knowledgeable person about it. Where do you fall in your awareness and knowledge of of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Kind of similar to Owen. I’d seen a few movies, and I was aware of it. And a few of my friends are really into it. And I know that a lot of people are, but I didn’t know that much, to be honest. I’ve learned a lot more being on the show. And from Tom, who is very knowledgeable.
How much of the role did you get to do before lockdown?
I don’t want to get this wrong, but I think it was like three or four weeks of filming. It wasn’t very much at all. It was enough just to start getting in the flow of things and just to start enjoying it before we had to shut down.
In that sort of time period where we were all just sitting with our own thoughts and contemplating the world, did you think more about Sylvie and anything else that you wanted to do with the part?
It was a really great time for letting what we’d already shot sit and percolate. I know Kate and the writers did a lot more work on the storyline when they’d seen what we’d done, you know, cut together so far. From a personal perspective, it was great just to have a little bit more time to think about it. Because the beginning of the shoot, everything happened so quickly. I carried on training with my stunt double, Sara. We would meet up once or twice a week on zoom, and that was really helpful as well, just to physically get into the body of the character. So I had a lot more time to get fit after having a baby.
Part of the pandemic experience for a lot of people has been thinking about the road less travelled, which in Sylvie’s case is the most extreme example — of this person who shares some similar essence with Loki but lived a completely different life. Did that resonate at all for you while playing her?
It’s so interesting to see two characters who are so similar and so different. It was really important to me to reflect the kind of life that Sylvie has had. The costume reflects that as well with the broken horn and the slightly disheveled costume. And little things like keeping more of my regional accent, and not trying to sound too posh or too well spoken, because it just wouldn’t suit the experience that Sylvie’s had. All of those things were were parts of creating this character and this relationship between Tom and I.
So how does how does one audition for a particularly physical role while pregnant?
Well, luckily, the scene that they gave me, I think, ended up being the scene on the train when they both sat down having a conversation. So I didn’t have to stand up. It was just head and shoulders. So you would never know just by looking at the tape. And then I don’t exactly know how it happened. I think it was just lucky that it wasn’t a super physical scene that I had to act out. Trying to do stunts or something, that would have been terrible!
When you got this role, what really were the parameters of who you could talk to, and who you couldn’t, before today?
I can talk to Tom and I can talk to Kate, but I just wasn’t really supposed to say anything else to anyone else. And I’m really good at keeping secrets, so I just didn’t talk to anyone else about it. Tom and I would just call each other and be like, ‘Oh, we need to say all this stuff, because we’ve got to say to anyone else! Ahh! What about this scene and this bit and this bit?!’ And you know, we’d meet up with Kate and do the same thing. So it was kind of just the three of us.

Yay, Loki episode four positivity (and a little bit of down-to-earth analysis) incoming! 😂
1. Perhaps I am a troll, or the former episodes have rendered me unable to approach the show like an adult looking for continuity, but I can’t help but like this episode. Most probably, because I watched Twitter slowly but steadily build up an anti-Sylvie shitstorm the episode now triggered. I couldn’t even focus on the other aspects. Because I pictured Twitter blowing up. Also, I almost couldn’t believe what I was watching. And this was the episode Tom looked forward to reading reactions on social media? Great god, you are a little troll, aren’t you? 😂
Tumblr media
2. That being said, I don’t believe they are going for a romantic connection (but I wouldn’t mind if they did).
The episode focused a lot on relationships. Mobius's friendship with Ravonna (he gets betrayed). Mobius’s friendship with the hunters C-20 and B-15 (colleagues, so far no betrayal). Mobius's connection with Loki (they both complain about betrayal but was there betrayal? Loki fought Sylvie when he followed her. He only teamed up for real after she mentioned the TVA-people being all variants) and Loki’s connection to Sylvie. The show is about self, including ‘self-love’ and that’s something very confusing for Loki. My interpretation of him is that he doesn’t see what people could dislike in him and yet he only gets rejection. (‘Because I am the monster parents tell their children about at night?!?’, ‘that’s why you preferred Thor all those years?’, but answering ‘well, yes’ after Thor asks him if he thinks himself above humans.) and now, for the first time, he gets an ‘outsider's perspective’ on himself, or better Sylvie. In the second episode, he even asks ‘would I do that to me?’ She calls him a clown, perhaps like he called Thor an oaf. He sees how callous he/she can be, and then she shows him her hidden, vulnerable side that got hurt. And she is lovable. So he might be, too. Perhaps he is mistaking that for romantic attraction; validation can feel pretty overwhelming if you aren’t used to it.
3. Also, bwahaha! Validation! Mobius's questioning was shown as bad this time! It was clearly a manipulation and NOT a friendly banter. Finally! I can live with Möbius becoming a good guy as long as his former actions are clearly shown as belonging to the bad side! I was pretty shocked when he got pruned. It’s almost like they pulled a George Martin. X) but with the mid-credits scene and the pyramids scene not having been shown, I guess it’s less scary.
4. Anyway, my former criticism was (among other points) Loki being incompetent. So, while there is still much to desire in the competence sector, Loki did progress the plot a little this time by spoiling the variant thing to Möbius. Yeah, it’s not much, I am aware, but it’s more than nothing. Also, he fought two guards on his own while Sylvie and Ravonna had their moment fight. It’s not nothing. I wish Loki would have been the one to plot together with B-15, but well, yeah. I guess he was busy getting kicked in the crotch.
And while I am at it- no, I don’t have an issue with that. I didn’t see it being framed for laughs. Ok, perhaps the one point where he tries to talk himself out of it and it didn’t work, but there the joke was that it looked like it worked and not that he got kicked. It was a good attempt! Not like his attempt to mirror the old woman’s husband, which was cringy as hell. It’s not bad because it didn’t work.
Also yay! Sif! And an additional yay! Inclusion of myth!loki backstory! 🎉
Also, his verbal sparring session with Möbius was good. We knew he was lying when claiming to be the head of the mission, but the attempt was well done. Still a 3/10 in the competence sector, but it’s getting better.
4) Hunter B-15 or better - the fact that her prior enchantment was important again. It was a moment of “I combined the dots!” for me and I appreciate they did plan things over multiple episodes.
5. The acting was good! Both in B-15 part as well as Loki’s (obviously), Möbius’s and Ravonna’s. Especially Ravonna’s. Man, finally we have a face for the bad guys. Nice that most of the TVA people are good guys.
6. Another former complaint of mine was the missing sass! And voila:
Tumblr media
So? Perhaps these are breadcrumbs, but I’ll still take them!
7. The episode was surprising! At the point Loki got pruned I was ready to say ‘called it! They wanted to replace him with Sylvie! Time to cancel Disney+’ but then they didn’t. I was surprised. And this way to Introduce kid Loki was agreeable with me. If they are both staying, I’m not feeling threatened. (IF they are both staying.)
8. Well, croki and the old Loki’s costumes are just epic, but that’s probably again my inner troll speaking. Hard to imagine him besides Loki with the Avenger’s outfit. 🤣
So yeah, I liked this episode best, so far. I hope they will show loki being badass at one point, but hey. There is still 1/3 of the season left. ;)

Hey so I can't stop thinking about Loki kiss as in why was Kang the conqueror included? This was weird enough for me that I measured the time of the kiss (about 9 seconds) and I measured the time that Kang was included (about 3 seconds). During about one third of the sylki kiss we could watch kang watch them kiss. Sylvie kisses Loki, they move and the camera moves with them but then, instead of stopping on them front and center, it includes blurry Kang. Who's just sitting there. Watching them. Was that supposed to be awkward/funny? Or dramatic bc Kang is so dangerous (even if he really doesn't seem to be)? Or make the whole thing just this bit weirder? Like it just makes no sense to me?? What was that about? (im asking here bc i genuinely would like to know the reason but anyway feel free to ignore me and release yourself of this ughh)
inatshej asked: Okay um I'm sorry about my previous ask about loki kissing scene. I just realised that kang was visible to foreshadow the ending where Sylvie still decided to kill him. That even if things seem to be going in the right direction (LOL if you ship sylki MAYBE), something bad can still happen, and happens. So yeah sorry xD took me a few hours to figure it out by myself tho xD
(just an heads up, if anyone is wondering why this question interests me, is because I was posting about LOKI during its runtime, in case you missed it) [FINAL THOUGHTS HERE]
** SPOILERS FOR LOKI **
Hey Lovely!
Hahahah no worries at all!
Here's my thing about Si1ki: I have no problem with the ship (I mean, I ship Sherlock with himself sometimes, so I would be a hypocrite if I shat on the ship), but I JUST DON'T SEE IT; it felt REALLY forced. I understand the metaphor they were trying to go for (you need to love yourself before others) but like.... the WHOLE "romance" felt weird. Mobius, ON SCREEN, even said it was "sick and twisted", so like, once he said that, I couldn't unsee it, and I think that was the problem: You on screen still acknowledge it, yet you still go with it.
Almost like Disney is more okay with anything else than they are with queer relationships. But I digress.
Please note I am speaking from a Loki X Mobius bias, so take what you will from my thoughts. It felt like they really were gonna go there. But I'm the clown in believing Disney, after canonically confirming Loki's bisexuality, would go there. It's performative activism, and Disney, heaven forbid, have a story with a male and female lead and NOT make them romantic interests... It's SO TIRING. Because up until the weird... THING in Episode 4, I had high hopes they were gonna go the BFF's / sibling dynamic, but yeah, the romance felt REALLY forced and weird, and the kiss even moreso.
I don't think she really liked Loki "That Way", and used Loki's confused feelings against him. I say that because she REALLY showed NO interest in the whole thing they had in Episode 5, and he's just SO desperate for love and companionship that I think he is will take what he can get. The Lokius Hug in E5 felt REALLY genuine, like two people who care and understand each other, and two people who – if nothing else – share a platonic Philia love for each other. AND they had a chemistry that shined on screen. I don't FEEL that with Loki and Sylvie. They care about each other, that's all I really got out of it.
If they were writing a romance, I PERSONALLY thought it was poorly written and executed even worse. The kiss was cringe, didn't make the romance "more real" and didn't give me the same vibes that the hug did, and it SHOULDN'T do that if it was well written. BUT I've never been in any serious relationship ever, so what do I know. Maybe I'm just too ace to "get the clues" but even movies where I KNOW that the main characters are supposed to be together, I feel the chemistry. I love both Tom and Sophia as their characters, but the "romantic" chemistry wasn't there.
Anyway, just my own gripe about it all.
BUT YES, your second ask in regards to Kang being there is also how I took it, and the kiss was a distraction. He knew what she was going to do; he studied her character all his life, he KNEW she wasn't going to just NOT do it. She never had the love of her family, and bitterness and resentment is all she knew. She didn't get to go through the character arc / development that our 2012 Loki got to, and HONESTLY? I think it's because she didn't HAVE someone like Mobius who believed in her. And Loki knew that, and unfortunately, his verbal trust in her came too late.
That said, I think we'll see her again, but I don't think she's gonna ever be a "good guy"; she'll be a morally grey character like MCU Loki was, and will probably go out in the same way, somehow.
I do like her, I just REALLY felt like the whole romance was shoehorned in by some top exec at Disney who thought it wouldn't be successful without one.

How did you pick what characters would appear in your thank god for hometowns fic?
With great difficulty!
So the fic isn’t even nearly written, so whatever I say is definitely subject to change. But as for what I’m calling the core six, it was working out what I needed people to do. Characters I wanted to include I couldn’t because I need them in other places. I knew I wanted Kim and Erin to be best friends because I need Voight to be a father figure to Kim, and when I was trying to pick a third person I kept getting reminded of the scene in Molly’s with Erin, Kim, Sylvie, and Sarah. I need Sylvie to be separate for ~reasons~, so that’s how it was Sarah.
As for the guys - Jay and Kevin were immediately there, and Adam couldn’t be (again for obvious reasons that will be obvious in less than two weeks when the summary is posted). Then when coming up with a third person, Kelly Severide felt like a fit because of his friendship with Erin and the way he and Kim know each other.
But honestly basically every single character appears in this fic. I have several handwritten pages mapping out how people are connected, what they do, and how they know each other. It’s the most in depth I’ve ever gone for anything before (and I include my original fiction in this) and I’m so stinking proud of it. I’m just hoping people like it too!

M’Baku’s Love-Chapter 1
Hey y’all, sooooo this is inspired by Sylvie’s Love. It was such a sweet movie that made me feel all the feels, so I felt the need to write a love story for our Thicc Kang. Seriously, go watch it on Prime if you can. Let me know what y’all think, and check out my masterlist if you haven’t already! I have a few one shots and a series for both our king and our prince.
This one’s on the shorter side, but enjoy!
Word count: 2992
When M’Baku integrated the Jabari into the rest of Wakandan society he had some concerns about there being some cultural friction. Having been separated for centuries, M’Baku assumed his people would have a hard time with adjusting to the new union, but as it turned out he didn't have to worry. Above all, he was worried about lowland Wakandans possibly subjecting his people to their prejudices, but it turned out that they have a pretty similar society to the Jabari and they meld really well. The different tribes of Wakanda all live in their separate provinces and have their own ways of living just like the Jabari, the only difference being that they interacted with the larger community that included the rest of Wakanda as well.
The chief’s misconceptions and prejudices about the other Wakandans were soon wiped out and replaced with a love of his country. The whole of it, as opposed to just his domain. He even began to enjoy his trips to the city, still finding the advancements unnecessary but amazing nonetheless. Over time, he grew curious of the outside world after befriending Prince N’Jadaka. The prince would regale him with horror stories of life on the outside, some were personal others were from around the diaspora.
However, M’Baku still couldn't understand the outside world, so King T’Challa decided  it would be best if he get to experience it for a while. At first, he was against it. Why would he want to experience such a horrible place? After much effort, T’Challa was able to convince him to spend three months in Oakland at the Outreach Center. At first, M’Baku thought the time span was excessive. He was Chief of the Jabari and had important duties to attend to, after all, he couldn’t just go galavanting halfway across the world just because he couldn’t grasp the concept of white supremacy.
M’Baku made his way through the hallways of the royal palace and when he arrived at the large ornate door to the king’s office, the guards saluted him before parting and letting him pass. He raised his fist to knock when T’Challa spoke up from inside.
“Enter.”
M’Baku cautiously opened the door and looked at the king with confusion written all over his chiseled face.
“How did you-”
“The heart shaped herb gives me enhanced hearing among many other things. Come, sit down. How has the tour been so far?”
In addition to his time in the outside world, M’Baku had chosen to learn more about the tribes of Wakanda. He had spent one weekend a month with a different tribe to understand their way of life. He only just started but so far the river tribe was in the running for second favorite.
“It is going well, umhlobo wam. You all are not too different from Jabari, aside from the frivolous gadgets.”
T’Challa smiled at his stubborn friend’s unwillingness to accept their technology. Getting him to wear Kimoyo beads was harder than bathing a cat, but he eventually came around but only for communication purposes. Some Jabari, especially the younger ones took right to it, but most were still living their traditional lives.
“I noticed the same thing when I stayed with you...the second time, clearly.”
The two chuckled at the now fond memory of the king almost dying at the hands of his newly beloved cousin.
“Clearly. So have you decided on a departure date yet?”
“Yes, I will be leaving with you and staying for about a week to check on the centers myself and help you acclimate. Obviously N’Jadaka will be there as well but I figured you’d want someone with you that’s a little more…”
“Level headed?”
“N-, well, yes, but also no. He is doing well at the Center, but he is still...himself.”
The prince was a wildcard. One you want to have in your hand, but a wildcard nonetheless. M'Baku  needed someone with a slightly longer fuse and a calmer disposition to show him around.
“Well I would not have it any other way, he is quite entertaining at times.”
A grin creeped up the king’s face as he thought of how his cousin’s progress had allowed for the parts of personality that aren’t rooted in anger to shine through.
“I agree. So, since I’ll be accompanying you we have to leave tomorrow.”
“I will alert my council.”
——————
The heat in California was marginally better than Wakanda, but still too high for M’Baku’s liking. He would have preferred to visit in the middle of their winter when the temperatures were milder, but anything over 60 degrees felt like a sauna to him. He also wasn’t used to having so much unprotected skin showing, but the weather called for his arms and legs to be free from fabric. His size and physique made him hyper visible and he noticed several of the volunteers doing double-takes as he and T’Challa walked through the halls of the Wakandan Outreach Center. He knew some of the attention was because the king didn’t visit often, but when he would catch eyes lingering on him he’d smirk and keep on moving.
T’Challa took him on a tour of the Center that ended with N’Jobu’s memorial in room 1401, which was preserved like a museum exhibit. The room stood as a reminder of Wakanda’s dark past, and a promise to never repeat it. M’Baku walked around the memorial, silently paying his respects to the murdered Wakandan prince and taking in the scene. The small plaques around the room gave visitors information about Prince N’Jobu, his family, his mission, and his death.
“Why did you go with these instead of virtual pages? Or whatever they are called...” M’Baku asked.
“Holograms. I felt it would take away from the feeling of heaviness this room invokes on you when you enter. This memorial needs to be both seen and felt for it to be effective.”
M’Baku nodded slowly, eyes still roaming around the room.
“Come, my friend,” T’Challa clapped him on the shoulder. “You will have plenty of time to come back here if you wish. For now, let me show you to your office.”
“Office?” The two walked down yet another hallway and headed up to the top floor.
“Yes, you didn’t think this was a vacation did you?” The king chuckled.
“Well, no but I assumed it would be more study than work.”
“It is both. You will be our Jabari Ambassador while you are here. I would like for you to come up with a skillshare program that will allow for the kids here in Oakland to learn your ways. One of the purposes of our Outreach Center is to bring about cultural understanding between us and our diaspora siblings, who we are now referring to as the Lost Tribe at the prince’s request. For now, we just have Oakland but eventually I plan to expand the program. Shuri is over the STEM program, Nakia handles social outreach, and N’Jadaka keeps the whole thing running smoothly, and you will make sure the Jabari are represented in our curriculum.”
“It would be my honor to bring Jabari ways to the Lost children.”
“I’m glad, now here is your office,” T’Challa pointed to a corner office with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view of the bay. “It is not a throne room, but it is quite nice.”
The king then took the time to show him the basic technology he would need to use and some of the more advanced technology at his disposal he knew he would probably never touch.
“You will have plenty of time to settle in tomorrow, for now I will show you your apartment,” T’Challa led the way back through the center and out to the car which took them about 10 minutes away to an apartment building.
“Our buildings are much more impressive,” M’Baku remarked.. It warmed T’Challa’s heart to hear his friend refer to Wakanda proudly instead of just his own corner of the country, and he let out a chuckle. Things really can change…
“I completely agree, my friend.”
The apartment turned out to be a loft that was the perfect size for the large Jabari Chief. The high ceilings, the open space, the floor to ceiling windows, the exposed brick...M’Baku actually liked it.
“Worthy of a chief?” T’Challa asked.
“That it is,” M’Baku said, walking around and taking in the space. The restaurant style kitchen was fully stocked with all his vegetarian favorites and some soon to be new favorites as well. He picked up a square package and stared at it in confusion, never having seen the meat-substitute before. “What is this to-fu?”
“It’s a very popular protein source made from soybeans.”
M’Baku nodded then moved to the living space, surprised to see a television, but the king explained he would need to stay up on current events, or maybe even watch a movie every now and then.
When T’Challa showed him the thermostat, he was so ecstatic he immediately put it on the lowest setting.
“I should leave before you freeze me out. If you need anything I’m just a kimoyo bead aw-,” T’Challa cut himself off when another, more important thought occurred to him. “Oh, I forgot to mention you’ll be getting an assistant. I sent three files to your beads, take a look and hire whichever one fits you best”
“Thank you, brother.” The two shook hands and saluted each other before the king left to give M’Baku his space.
The chief admired the Jabari wood furniture and the furs on the couch, plopping down to try to figure out how to work the television. After some time, he found a news station and only lasted about 5 minutes before he needed to turn it off. Instead, he accidentally switched to a thing called HBO Max and clicked on a show where the main character looked familiar somehow.
“In West Philadelphia, born and raised,” the theme song played over and over and over as M’Baku binged his first tv show, laughing the whole way.
A few hours passed and he was brought back from tv land by a rumble in his stomach. Not in the mood to cook, he decided to explore the neighborhood and look for food instead.
After just a few minutes M’Baku came to a stop in front of a place called Cafe V. He stopped to take a look at the menu in the window when he felt a small, or regular sized, person bump into his side. His eyes travelled down to see who would dare shove Lord M’Baku, Chief of the Jabari, when his eyes landed on a caramel-complected goddess with a bright teal fade. His face immediately softened as she stammered through an apology.
“I-I am so s-sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. I got a text and, it doesn’t matter, are you ok?”
He struggled to find the words.
“Yes, are you? That was quite the impact.”
She was surprised by his kindness and gave him a smile.
“It was, wasn’t it?” The two shared a quick laugh. “I’m sorry, I’m running late to meet a friend...literally.”
“Well I would not want to keep you, but please be mindful of your surroundings. I am sure everyone is not as nice as I am.”
“That’s for sure. Oh, and by the way,” she leaned in as if to tell him a secret. He leaned in to listen to whatever she had to tell him. “There’s a Black-owned vegan restaurant around the corner there.”
M’Baku’s eyes lit up, “Two things I love.”
“Black people and vegan food?”
“Precisely,” a grin overtook his face and she couldn’t help but stare at his adorable gap.
“Well I really have to go, nice meeting you stranger!”
And with that, she was off before he could even get her name. The best he could do is hope she’d crash into him on the sidewalk again one day.
“I really hope she is more careful,” he said to himself as he rounded the corner to The V Spot.
——————
Monday morning, M’Baku arrived at the outreach center full of nervous energy. He had wanted to look nice for his first day, but his tunic felt like it was cutting off his circulation the closer he got to the building. When he finally arrived in his office, he found it full of royals.
“Nigga you look uncomfortable as hell in that,” N’Jadaka was, naturally, the first to call out the obvious. Thankfully, the Queen came to his rescue.
“Stop it Daka, you’d look uncomfortable in Jabari attire,” Nakia said as she undid his top button. “There. Better?”
“Much. I did not want to ruin the look.”
“Turning blue ruins the look, genius,” Princess Shuri chimed in.
“Sister, he wasn’t blue...yet. If we hadn’t gotten here when we did the Jabari would’ve been out a Chief,” the king added.
“Ha. You all are very funny. Are you done?”
“We’re just fucking with you, man. How you liking the loft?”
“It is wonderful. I am almost embarrassed to say I have watched the television for several hours. Have you ever seen the Fresh Prince of Bel Air? It is hilarious!”
“Aw hell yeah, that’s like thee funniest show hands down. You know what? While you’re here, I’m introducing you to alllllll the Black entertainment. You’re gonna love it, niggas stay laughing at something.”
“Speaking of, I thought… that word-“
“You can say nigga. You’re a nigga too, my nigga.”
T’Challa leaned over to M’Baku, “It is an adjustment, but the reclaiming of slurs can be a powerful thing for oppressed peoples. And it’s just so versatile.”
“What an interesting language…”
“Are we teaching an English class or are we meeting about curriculum…?” Shuri asked impatiently before her brother pinched her arm.
“Ouch! I’m telling mother.”
“Go ahead, I’ll tell her you’ve been sneaking out at night to hang with your little friends.”
Shuri shot her cousin a deadly glare, making him put his hands up in surrender.
“I didn’t say shit. He’s a walking lie-detector, I don’t know what to tell you.”
Nakia and M’Baku snickered at the situation they had no part in. Nakia, because she knew her husband had known for quite some time and would never snitch on his baby sister, but always had Dora following her at a safe distance. M’Baku enjoyed the moment because he and the Princess had a love-hate relationship and seeing her in “trouble” tickled him.
The moment passed and the five of them moved to a conference room to discuss the upcoming summer. Shuri advocated for a nanobots workshop on weekends and Nakia laid out her plans for summer programs. The king and prince listened closely and N’Jadaka gave his input here and there. T’Challa mostly nodded along, as this was more so his cousin’s job than his. He just signs the checks.
“...and Monaé just hired three new dance instructors because our classes are so popular with the community. She’ll discuss it in the Department Head meeting later-“
“Is that not what this is?” M’Baku asked, genuinely confused.
“If anything this is more of an executive meeting. We each oversee our departments, but have help running them. That’s who we will meet with in about 15 minutes.” Nakia responded, checking her beads for the time.
The executives finished their meeting just as other people started to roll in. Kitchen staff brought up some breakfast for everyone, and as soon as M’Baku stood to grab a bagel his knees nearly buckled. There she was, Miss In A Hurry herself. He tried to play it cool and keep his smile under wraps, but when she caught sight of the blinding whiteness from the other side of the room she recognized him immediately and waved.
“Friend of yours…?” T’Challa asked quietly with a raised brow. The man had only been here 24 hours…
“She ran into me on the street the other day and recommended an amazing restaurant. I should go say thank you…”
“Yes you should...why aren’t you?”
“I-“
“Mhm,” T’Challa said before turning to the rest of the attendees. “Everyone, please welcome Lord M’Baku, Chief of the Jabari. He will be here the next three months integrating Jabari culture into our curriculum. As many of you know, the Jabari-“
M’Baku tuned T’Challa out, staring instead at the girl with the teal fade. The look on her face when the king introduced him made him want to go hold her. It was painstakingly obvious that she was embarrassed to have almost run over royalty.
“-until we started the integration process a year ago. Now, Lord M’Baku you may have the floor.”
M’Baku cleared his throat and shook himself from his daydream.
“Uh, hello. I am sure it will be a pleasure to work here with you all. I would like to meet with each department head at some point this week to discuss how to make your programs more inclusive of Jabari customs. We can start scheduling those after we are finished here.”
The meeting went on for about an hour with M’Baku and the department heads furiously taking notes. M’Baku was pleasantly surprised that he wasn’t the only one using a physical notepad and pen. He looked to the stranger from earlier and noticed her bright notebook with a multicolored neon leopard cub in the middle. The name on the side read “Lisa Frank”, but he wasn’t sure if that was her name or the artist. She used several different colored pens to take her notes, and the red cat eye glasses he didn’t see on her face the other day kept slipping down her nose. She was a colorful one, that was for sure.
By the time the meeting ended he still hadn’t caught her name, but he knew she was head of the Arts department and that he would meet with her the next day. He could wait until then.
