AHHH, this isn't my most RECENT fave, as my most recent fave is a photo that has too many identifying things in it, so I'd rather not share it, but THIS one from October 2023 makes me giggle. I took it to send to my sister when it finally got cold in my apartment, and I just wanted to show her how cuddled up I was. I like being comfy:

I dunno, it's just silly. Nothing special about it and the subject matter is terrifying, but seeing me be so cozy fills me with some comfort, that I can be at peace sometimes. I dunno.

Hi! I know you've talked a bit about maps of Gotham and I was wondering if there was any canonical or pseudo-canonical place where Stephanie was originally from. I'm working on a fanfic about her and I've been searching through wikis but I can't find anything

Steph is from Manchester, a suburb of Gotham! It's not on any of the official maps, annoyingly enough.

Detective Comics (1937-2011) #648, (Steph's second appearance! Agnes Belligner is apparently Crystal. Retcons!)

We also from that same issue learn Steph's approximate street address!

That being "115~ South Holden Street, Manchester New Jersey." The picture that we generally get is a suburb, but a less-nice suburb (unlike Bristol, the suburb where Tim is usually located in this era).

Steph's house is described as being about "forty minutes drive" from at least parts of Gotham.

Batman (1940-2011) #643 War Crimes Part 2: Minor Discrepancies

This house in Manchester generally appears to be Steph's house throughout her tenure as Spoiler and Robin. We see it on a variety of occasions throughout Tim's time as Robin. Adventures in Steph (and Tim's!) neck of the woods are generally explained as being "Gotham County" instead of Gotham City, with features like Steph's father being chased by a county sheriff rather than the GCPD.

Robin (1993-2009) #57 "Date Night" (Yes the sheriff's name is "Sheriff Shotgun. Okay then.)

During No Man's Land, Steph and Crystal don't evacuate, with Manchester being outside of the evacuation zone, although earlier issues showed some potential damage to the Brown House.

Robin (1993-2009) #58 "The Stranger"

(I say potential, because the same cracked-wall effects were used in basically every building in that issue... including Tim's new house in Keystone.)

Later into No Man's Land, when most of Gotham is, well... a no man's land, Steph and Crystal are shown still living a relatively normal life in the suburbs, outside the evacuation zone, clearly showing that while they were affected by the earthquake, they're not on Gotham Island properly, which makes sense.

Robin (1993-2009) #68 "War Beneath the Streets! Part One: Rats!"

This generally appears to be their home through the end of Steph's time, including through her run as Robin, as seen in the issue where she takes on the mantle.

After her death and return, Steph apparently transfers to Tim's school despite having previously dropped out and been studying for her GED.

Once she becomes Batgirl, Steph and Crystal seem to have moved to Gotham City properly, since Crystal is working at "West Mercy Hopsital" in Gotham City.

I find it really cool that someone who is 40 enjoys things like these. Usually people at age 40 would be looking at me like I'm some dissappointing alien if I showed them my interests like fics (I'm 20) 🥲 I'm not ready to be judged

Y'know, it makes me so sad that the younger fandom folks genuinely believe us older folks just... disappear from fandom after a certain amount of time, it's kind of a really weird sort of ageism. I'm not sure why people think that you have to stop liking things after a certain age... when in reality getting older is fantastic because I can now engage in my fandom life without giving two flying figs about the drama of it all, really.

I'm sorry you've had that sort of experience, Lovely, where you've been shamed for just being a human being. Gatekeeping and ageism is so fucking weird to me, really. It gets better as you get older, because your skills have improved (whether it's critical thinking, art, or writing, etc) and you can really enjoy your free time however you want whenever you want.

Just saying, I'd love to know where these younger folks think their 200K epic, well-written favourite fanfics come from. Is all I'm saying, heh.

And Nonny? There are far more 30+ people in this and EVERY fandom than y'all realize <3 And we all love our little beans coming in to enjoy it with the rest of us <3

With so many of the greatest writers leaving the writing in our fandom, I was wondering if you could recommend some newer or even older fic authors that are of the same level? I don't want to stop reading Johnlock, it's basically all I read anymore! I know I'm spoiled with having read fics by @chryse @breath4soul @arwamachine @7-percent @therealsaintscully @ohlooktheresabee @runnfromtheak @meetinginsamarra and @jbaillier

I understand that not everyone wants to dedicate their lives to writing fanfic, or have outgrown the fandom, or real life has become overwhelming. By no way am I demanding more fic from these amazing writers. I'd really just like to know of any other wonderful writers that are just as good. I need to feed my addiction hahaha! Thank you for your advice and suggestions, I love you!

SO SORRY it took so long to reply to this one... Kind of started and then it got forgotten, and I am sorry for that. No better time than Ace Awareness Week to help you understand!!

So, short answer to your question, is YES, SOME aces do, whether to facilitate in self-pleasure, or because seeing their faves happy, or as placeholders because some aces take pleasure-by-proxy, or a variety of other reasons, it just simply makes some of us happy. You'd be surprised how many of those smutty authors are actually ace themselves. It's one of those funny misconceptions that aces are all woobie-uwu-innocent-pure-thoughts-only magical creatures, and I'm here to shatter that illusion... Aces are some of the smuttiest-minded people you will ever meet. Why, I have no idea, maybe it's because we don't fantasize about sex the same way allos do that we can come up with increasingly hornier ideas? LOL No idea.

The thing about asexuality is that it's a HUGE spectrum, and no one ace is exactly the same. A sex-negative ace might get something out of reading smut because it's not involving them. Or they might not at all. Same with sex-positive/neutral aces. It's ALL a matter of what makes us tick.

BUT here's where I go into my LONG answer, and get you REALLY into the Ace Lore™.

I want to introduce you to the microlabel of Aegosexuality (formerly autochorisexuality), which is a term that loosely translates to "sexuality with oneself". The expanded definition, from the Sexuality Wiki, bolding is mine:

It is [...] a disconnect between oneself and a sexual target/object of arousal; may involve sexual fantasies or arousal in response to erotica or pornography, but lacks desire to be an actual participant in the sexual activities therein.

Aegosexuals are known to:

Become aroused by sexual content (at times) without wanting to personally engage in sexual activities.

Masturbate, but feel neutral or repulsed by the idea of having sex with another person.

Fantasize about sex (with varying frequency), but envision people other than themselves, and/or view it in third person, as if watching it on TV, instead of imagining it in the first person, through their own eyes.

Predominantly—or exclusively—fantasize about fictional characters or celebrities in place of people they know personally.

Identify as asexual, feeling little-to-no sexual attraction to people though enjoy masturbating (with varying frequency), are aroused by sexually explicit content, and/or fantasizing of such.

Basically, smut turns them on, but some aces don't want to engage in the smut for-reals. This microlabel makes it ESPECIALLY confusing for newly-figured-out-aces because there hasn't been a lot of information about asexuality's huge spectrum until recently. Aegosexuals can initially believe that they AREN'T ace, BECAUSE they get turned on by porn or smutty stories, but then they're SUPER confused because the idea of having sex themselves is appalling or undesirable. It's a bizarre contradiction, understandably, to outsiders, but it makes COMPLETE sense once an ace figures this out, I promise you.

This is the microlabel I myself fall under. It's not from any trauma or past problems or medical issues. It's just me. That's it. And because of the confusion that this sexuality can bring, it often takes us a LOT longer to have ourselves figured out. For me, it was an accidental stumbling upon the "autochorisexual" label (before it became Aegosexual) and reading up on it that EVERYTHING fell into place. Before that, I thought I was maybe demisexual. After learning about it, I felt okay FINALLY calling myself ace, that I finally found the "right fit" for me. It was the piece of the puzzle that I was missing. I felt really liberated of my self-doubt after that.

And, of course, aros have their version as well called Aegoromantic, which is exactly the same but in a romantic sense.

LISTEN I haven't been okay since that episode aired. I mean it wasn't just that one either...

Like this whole episode fucked me up so much. Like, this is the episode that MADE TJLC a THING. This was a wedding episode that SHOWED NO WEDDING.

It showed a "best man ask" that looked like a proposal.

It showed the groom and the best man DRESSED EXACTLY ALIKE LOOKING LIKE A COUPLE greeting guests.

It showed Sherlock being the one shown giving vows.

Every time they cut back to wide shots of the head table, John and Sherlock are ALWAYS front and centre, and contrasted SO MUCH against the background that the bride and maid of honour are washed into it.

This whole episode Mary was a bloody afterthought. A wedding is traditionally thought of as "the bride's day" but like... The whole reception is about John and Sherlock.

Like, what did Mofftiss THINK the audience would think??? Why WOULDN'T we think S4 was queerbaiting after THIS being a midpoint episode in the entire series and NOT have these two TOGETHER at the end AS the couple?

It's frustrating because TSo3 is one of my fave episodes, but it's hard to not see it as one giant "gay joke" after S4. I'm glad I love this episode to bits that it overrides that thought.

The next thing he knows he's wandering the planes of Heaven. After betraying God, John is cast out, employed by the devil, and protecting a sociopath of a human with a penchant for trouble and pissing off Angels.

The Curious Case of the Casablanca Killer by meet_me_in_samarra (G, 55,886 w., 16 Ch. || Post THoB, Case Fic, Bromance / Friendship, Clever John, John is a Conductor of Light, BAMF John / Sherlock, Sassy John, Cheeky Sherlock) – Deemed a three at best, the case of an invisible burglar in a historic cinema who stole nothing only caught Sherlock’s attention because he was bored. Also, he wanted to do John a favour. In the end, this proved to be a real stroke of luck. Otherwise, Sherlock would have missed an intriguing mystery that quickly ramped up in complexity.

Hi there Steph! I’m violia. 

I was a diehard BBC Sherlock & Johnlock fan back in 2011-2012. I read fic voraciously and adored the show. Those months after series 2 aired were such a fun time to be in fandom and I remember it fondly! I eventually moved on from the fandom, (dropped back in briefly for series 3 & 4), but now for some reason, ten years later, I find myself being drawn back to it. I’m definitely feeling nostalgia for those first two series of the show, the excitement, creativity, fic and meta in fandom at the time, and just generally that entire early 2010s era. It was a different time. 

Naturally, back then, I didn’t bookmark any of my favourite fics, and I’ve forgotten nearly all of them now. But I was delighted to stumble across your blog in my search for fics! So I’ve come to ask for some recs, if you have them! There are two different types of fics I’m looking for: 

Fics that explore/feature depictions of London as a city. Descriptions of different parts of the city, Sherlock and John exploring the city (maybe in casefic), etc. I’m really interested in reading fics that are firmly and specifically situated in their settings. 

Fics that stand out as having particularly strong British/English characterisations, dialogue, mannerisms and cultural references. 

I’ve been using the search function on Tumblr to look for fics, which I will continue to do. But any help you could give would be greatly and gratefully appreciated. I hope you have a lovely day!

Ahhh, this is a good question re: fics... for the first one the only one that comes immediately to mind is this one:

And some other AUs that the names are escaping me, sadly D: I recently just read one that focussed a lot on London as a city and I can’t remember what it was, OOF.

As for the second one... Ah..... every fic kind of is that for me primarily because I’m an ignorant Canadian 🙃 hahah.

do you have gifs/clips of that one scene where magnussen is flicking john, except sherlock is more visible? his expressions drive me crazy in that scene 😭 he looks like he’s almost dissociating but still so hyper focused and anxious about whats happening in front of him and johns safety
