Tim came down the stairs with an empty mug in hand. As he entered the dinning room he found a kid happily eating pancakes. Ah this must be the new adoptee, he thought to himself as he recalled last night's group chat.
"This is not a new adoptee," Bruce said looking up from the boy. Man, Tim hated when the old man guessed their thoughts like that.
"Say whatever you need to convince yourself B," Tim replied with a shrug as he went into the kitchen.
Bruce shouted after him, "He already has a family!"
The boy immediately interjected, "She's not my family silly! She's my friend."
Tim chuckled to himself as he filled his mug and came back into the dining room. "Aw B," he said smugly, "he doesn't even have a family. You're not saying we're gonna leave him on the streets are you?"
Bruce for his part, glared halfheartedly at Tim before turning back to the little boy. Tim also took this time to observe the boy. He believed Oracle had said his name was Danny. Danny was currently happily kicking his legs as he stabbed at his pancakes. Tim couldn't help but note how the pancakes had already been cut into bite sized pieces. Other than that, he seemed perfectly fine. No apparent injuries or adverse reactions to sudden movements. His clothes were also nice and clean. Probably Alfred's doing. Speaking of the old butler, he came in and set a plate down in front of Tim.
"Oh I'm not-" One eyebrow raise was enough for the young man to shut his mouth. He looked down at his plate only to immediately turn back to Alfred with an eyebrow raise of his own. "Mister Danny claimed it was not fair he was the only one to receive such special pancakes. He was rather insistent that everyone experiences such happiness this fine morning," Alfred informed.
Ah, that explains why Tim had gotten star shaped pancakes. He looked over at Danny who was smiling giddily at him. As Tim took his first bite of pancake, he couldn't help but agree with that assessment.
Bruce cleared his throat. "Danny?" the boy looked up at him. "As you know our... mutual friend left you in my care. As such after you're finished with your pancakes, what do you say I take you back home?"
"Ok!" the boy replied before shoveling more pancakes into his mouth.
"I think I'll tag along too," Tim said. There was no way this little "drop off" was going to go as planned and he wanted to be there to see it. After all, someone had to keep the group chat updated. Besides, he took great joy in Bruce's half perplexed half annoyed expression.
"Don't you have some meetings to attend today?" Bruce asked through gritted teeth, guessing his son's angle. "Nope," Tim answered sweetly. "My schedule's all clear today."
"Fine," Bruce relented. "If you want to come along on this very quick drop off, I won't stop you."
Tim smiled into his mug. This was gonna be fun.
-----
"We're here!" Danny exclaimed as they pulled up to an abandoned looking apartment building.
"Are you sure this is your home?" Bruce asked cautiously. Tim couldn't blame him, this place was on the outskirts of the Bowery and looked like nobody had lived there in years.
Danny opened the door and hopped out. "Yep!" he said. "I know because I'm a big boy and big boys know how to get home." He puffed out his chest proudly.
"Right," Bruce muttered pensively as he examined the building.
They all entered the building and began ascending the questionable stairs with Danny taking them two steps at a time. As they climbed, both Bruce and Tim noted how rundown the building looked. Walls were peeling and there was rubble and trash all over the floors. The railing on the stairs looked so rusted that a gust of wind could probably knock them over. Most of the lights didn't work because of one thing or another which luckily wasn't a problem considering it was daytime. But none of that was even the most concerning part. No, the most concerning part was how silent it was.
As they walked down the hall, it was simply too silent. Even taking into account that most people would already be at work right now, it was still too quiet. There was no hint of people coming back from work the night shift. No sound of those staying home sick or someone with a day off. No dogs barked, no cats made any noise. It was an eerie silence that seemed to blanket the whole building. It was unnerving.
Danny stopped in front of a door and opened it with ease. There was no lock or anything. Once again adding to the list of concerning evidence. They entered after Danny to discover a shabby looking flat past the door. There was barely any furniture, and the furniture that was there looked like it should have been thrown out years ago. The floor boards seemed as if they would give way at any moment too. The windows to the far side allowed lighted in but that only served to illuminated the mountain of dust everywhere. The apartment didn't even look lived in. There were no clothes anywhere, no dishes, no sort of decorations, nothing.
Danny seemed undeterred by any of this and happily pranced into a room off to the right. Tim followed him as Bruce stayed behind to look around more.
As he entered, Tim was relieved to find that at least this space looked lived in albeit barely. The bed had Superman themed sheets on it and there was a backpack leaning against the closet. The bed also had a blanket laying on top of it which Danny ran to and grabbed. He came back over to show Tim.
"This is my most precious thing!" he explained excitedly. "My friend gave it to me. Feel it! It's super soft."
Tim knelt down and felt the blanket which was black and had stars all over it. "You're right," he said. "It really is soft." Danny beamed. "Told ya!"
Tim smiled at the boy's obvious excitement despite his less than stellar living arrangements. Just then, Bruce called for him. Tim returned to the main room with Danny in tow, still clutching onto his blanket.
Bruce turned to him and handed him a piece of paper with an unreadable expression. The paper had cursive scrall on it that simply read, Take care of him my knights.
Danny looked up at them both curiously and Tim just sighed. So much for this being a quick drop off.

Can you do a dad Matt story but when his daughter is like older (10-13)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In trouble - Matt Sturniolo x Y/n oneshot
warnings - swearing, kissing, angst, arguing
—————————
12:34pm
"Sure, i'll come pick her up as soon as possible." I put a fake happy tone on my voice as the principle of my 12 daughter Estrella's school tells me i need to come pick her up because she punched a girl in the face.
The principle hangs up the phone as i sigh, tapping my pen twice before grabbing my papers and stacking them on my computer, i worked in an office as a journalist, luckily i already have what i need for my new article im producing.
"Leaving already?" My best friend at the office, Cassidy, asks me.
I nod, "Estrella." I say.
Her eyes widen, "Again? She's been getting in trouble a lot lately, she doing okay?" Cassidy takes a sip of her coffee as she asks.
I shrug, "I honestly don't know. Matt's been working a lot lately, he’s barely home lately and every time he's home we argue, which is probably why she's been acting up. It's not like i have time to punish her with work. And she seems perfectly okay with me taking her phone away, she stays in her room." I rant, i let out a huff.
"Alright, i gotta go, bye Cass." I smile.
"Bye babe, let me know how it goes." She smiles back at me.
—————————
12:48pm
I walk in the schools office, seeing Estrella looking down as she holds an ice pack on her right hand knuckles. I then walk in the principles office.
"Mrs. Sturniolo! Please, have a seat." Ms. Patterson, the principle offers.
I smile, "Hi, uh thanks.." I clear my throat as i take a seat.
Ms. Patterson flashes a smile at me, "So you know why you're here, we spoke on the phone, but i just wanted to give you a run down of what Estrella told me, if that's okay with you?" Ms. Patterson asks as she picks up a paper with notes on it.
I let out a breath and nod.
Ms. Patterson clears her throat, "Right, so when Estrella punched Gia, she said it was because she made fun of her for being stupid, which is obviously not okay, and should've never happened but at this school we do not respond in violence, and this has been the third offense in three weeks with something physical, i'm sorry to say but next time Estrella is looking at suspension or even expulsion." Ms. Patterson tells me.
I sigh and rub my forehead, "But this girl gia, she came at my daughters intellect, shouldn't that have been addressed?" I defend Ella.
Ms. Patterson nods, "Of course, and it was-"
"Was it? Does Gia also have a week of detention like my daughter or..." I trail off, waiting for the principle to speak.
Ms. Patterson lets out a dry cough but shakes her head. "Uh.. no, the insult was overruled once Estrella put her hands on Gia."
I nod, "Right, but if Estrella didn't start a fight, then the teachers would have never known about Gia insulting her, am i right?"
Ms. Patterson furrows her eyebrows, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Sturniolo. I'm not following."
I shrug, "Would Gia have gotten in trouble in the first place for insulting my daughter if Estrella didn't react the way she did or would it have just been ruled off?"
"Uh- well i'm sure a teacher would have heard Gia say some-"
I cut Ms. Patterson off, "And if a teacher didn't?" I ask.
Ms. Patterson stays silent.
"Yeah, right. My daughter would have been screwed either way, sorry but we are done here. Thank you for trying but i am always going to defend my daughter. I do apologize and i hope Gia's nose gets better." I say, standing up and leaving the room.
As i leave the office i see Estrella look up at me.
"Not a word and in the car, now." I demand, pointing at her to walk first.
Estrella goes to speak, "Bu-"
I cut her off, "Not a word."
—————————
1:12pm
We walk in the house and Ella takes off her shoes, she then goes to walk upstairs.
"Where do you think you're going? I've let it slide the past two times because i've been busy but lucky you i finished all my work today so we are going to have a nice long chat. Sit down, Estrella." I cross my arms as i look at her.
She looks at me and stands on the second stair, not moving.
"Estrella Leylani Sturniolo!" I yell.
Estrella jumps as i raise my voice, i was never the parent to yell at her, so that must of scared her.
I clear my throat, "Please sit down, Estrella." My tone lowering as she comes and sits down on the couch.
"You wanna tell me what's going on?" I ask as i stand in front of her.
She shrugs and bites her nails, habit she got from Matt.
"You're going to speak to me." I say but she stays silent. "Now!" I yell.
"Mom, what!?" She yells at me.
I bite my lip and nod, letting out a scoff.
"What's going on with you? Punching a girl in the face? This is your third physical altercation in three weeks! You're going to get expelled, Ella! Do you even care anymore!? You've gotten in more trouble in school then your father and I ever have!" I tell her.
"No, I don't care! I hate school and i hope every time Gia gets a bloody nose she thinks of me!" Estrella uncrosses her arms.
I let out a huff, "Just wait until i call your father. I was gonna give you a chance to explain yourself but you ruined it."
"Go ahead call dad! Maybe he'll actually come home for once!" Estrella stands up now.
I groan in frustration, "God, ella, what are you talking about?!" I scoff.
"Dad is barely home! And when he is all you guys do is argue! I- i thought maybe that if i got in trouble you guys would stop arguing a-and he would come home- and we could be a family again but clearly that's not gonna happen so forget it." Estrella says, running upstairs, i hear her door slam shut.
I sniffle and wipes my eyes, taking my phone out of my pocket and calling Matt.
The phone rings three times before he answers, "Hey, y/n. I'm kind of busy right now can i call you lat-"
I cut him off, "It's Ella. Can you come home, please?" My voice cracks.
"W-what? What's wrong? Is she okay?" Matt asks.
"C-can you just come home?" I ask, my voice evident that i'm on the verge of tears.
"Okay, i'm on my way, baby. Take breaths for me, sweetheart." He says softly, the most civil we've been in a while.
I take a breath like Matt said. "Okay, I love you." I say, almost in a whisper. The last time we said i love you was like two weeks ago.
I hear Matt chuckle, "I love you too, baby. Forever and always." Matt says before hanging up, presumably on his way now.
—————————
1:38pm
I was pacing in the living room, picking at my earlobe as i think of every time i went wrong.
The front door opens and i see Matt walk in, he was wearing a black t shirt, black jean jacket and black cargos.
“What took you so long?” I snap, probably shouldn’t have been my first move.
“Accident on the highway.” He replies, now taking his shoes off and setting his keys down.
“What happened?” He walks towards me.
I give him the write up that Estrella got today.
Matt’s eyebrows furrowed as he reads the paper, him opening his mouth to speak. “Isn’t this her th-”
“-Third time. Yes.” I confirm, nodding as i cross my arms.
Matt lets out a frustrated sigh, handing me back the paper and starting to walk upstairs.
“Matt wait,” I grab his hand.
“Estrella told me the only reason she got in trouble today was because she wanted you to finally come home, and for us to stop arguing.” I tell him.
He looks up at me, his look was upsetting, almost guilty. “What?”
I nod, “She’s been struggling and we haven’t known about it.”
He lets out a breath, him now clearly upset.
“We can call her down here to talk.” I suggest, playing with my fingers.
Matt rubs his stubble and nods, “Okay.”
“Estrella!? Come down here please!” I call out.
I hear her room door open and watch as she walks downstairs. Her eyes flicker between Matt and I and she lets out a huff.
I give her a sad smile, “Sit down, please.” I motion towards the couch.
She looks at me, not moving, like she had done before Matt got home.
“You can listen to your mother, Estrella.” Matt chimes in.
She scratched her head before walking and sitting on the couch, crossing her arms and leaning back.
Matt takes a seat next to her while i stay standing.
“What’s going on, Ella? Mom told me you got in trouble again.” Matt starts, looking at Ella.
Ella bites her lip and shrugs, bringing her nails up to her mouth to bite her nails.
I shake my head, “Tell him what you told me, El.” I say as Matt takes Estrella’s hand out of her mouth.
“You guys argue too much.” Ella says, her eyes flickering over to Matt as she speaks again, “And you’re never home anymore, dad. I miss you. A-and our family.” She says, her voice was quiet but determined to get her point through.
Matt nods, taking in a breath. “Your mother and I are perfectly fine, Ella. We argue yeah, but it’s not anything that deep, we love each other so much, just like we love you so much. And i’ve been working a lot with your uncles, but i can take some time off from now on, would that be okay with you?” He looks at ella, she smiles and nods.
Matt chuckles, “Great. No more getting in trouble, i’m only letting it slide because i know you don’t mean it.” Matt says.
She looks down and nods before Matt brings her into a hug, she hugs back. “Thanks dad..” She whispers against his chest.
He kisses her forehead. “Of course, baby.” He whispers back.
Ella gets up and looks at me, “I’m sorry for being rude, mom.. i don’t mean it, i pinky promise.” She holds her pinky out, i smile, that was a habit she got from me.
I interlock pinkies with her, “It’s okay, my love.” I smile before bringing her in for a hug.
She then goes back upstairs.
Matt stands up and looks at me. “I’m sorry i haven’t been home, and that i’ve been a bad father and husband.” He apologizes.
I shake my head and wrap my arms around his neck, “You’re an amazing husband and an even better father. I argue back all the time too. So as long as we work together we will stop, for ella.”
Matt nods, “For ella.” He then leans in and kisses me.

Bucky isn't in his best mood. Actually, he's been in a bad mood lately, at least when he's with you. So you know that you should wait until he seems better to put the plan into action. But you just can't wait anymore, you've been having a pretty bad week yourself, and you need to get it out of your chest just yet, or it may end up killing you.
So, arming yourself with courage, you approach him that night. He seems to be doing nothing, just scrolling boringly through his phone. He looks cute, using both of his hands to hold the phone, just like old people.
"Hey, Buck" you say when you enter his range of vision.
He looks up from his phone, he doesn't look startled, probably heard you entering the room with his super-soldier ear.
"Hey" he says, and goes back to his phone. For a man who wasn't born in this century, he seems to enjoy new technologies.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure" he says, even though he looks pissed. You don't understand why he's acting so strange around you lately, maybe you really shouldn't be doing this.
You sigh.
"So... I was planning on watching a movie with Nat, but she just went on a mission. Do you... want to watch it with me?" you ask quickly, like if you say it fast enough the words would change or something.
"I'm busy" he simply says, frowning. He doesn't look busy at all.
You look around as if looking for something or someone that's keeping him busy. You, of course, don't find anything, so you nod sadly and turn around "Okay, I'll ask someone else"
Great, the plan hasn't even begun and you have already failed. You feel stupid. Why would a man like Bucky Barnes be interested in you? You're just a normal woman, there are plenty of better options out there, even inside the team.
As you approach the door, you feel the pain of rejection wash over you. Bucky and you were always close friends, but lately, he's been acting all cold and weird with you. Maybe he found out you like him and is trying to push you away? That's the only thing that makes sense, and it hurts you. It hurts you because not only are you losing the man you have feelings for, but you're also losing a great friend.
"Wait" you hear Bucky's voice when you reach the door.
"Mhm?" you ask, turning around, he's now standing.
"You know what? A movie sounds great" he says with a nod.
You can't help but smile "Really? Cool. I was thinking of a horror movie, but if it's not your thing we can watch something else. You know, if you get scared easily?" you tease.
You're beginning to regret teasing him, now that your relationship is not at its best, but then he smiles:
"Yeah, I think I can handle myself, horror sounds good"
You nod, now excited "Great, I'll make some popcorn a prepare some drinks, we'll have fun"
"Sounds good"
You nod with a smile "You can choose the movie while I prepare everything. Choose a good one"
With that being said, you start to walk to the kitchen.
Now your plan can begin. To be completely honest, you didn’t have anything prepared with Nat, you just needed an excuse so you didn’t sound so desperate about it. You have everything planned: first, you will confirm if Bucky likes you, with subtle touches and light words. Then, you will finally confess your feelings. You just hope you don’t embarrass yourself.
Since he’s been so rude to you lately, you’re not so sure about the plan, but what can you do? Just stay there, watching him from a distance, but never making a move? You’re not like that, you have to do something, or you may combust. At least you have to find out if he likes you back, or if his sudden behavior with you is because he doesn't like you anymore, even as a friend. At least he has accepted to watch the movie, that has to mean something. Right?
With that in mind, you grab the popcorn and the drinks and make your way to the living room. Bucky is already there, scrolling through a streaming service with a frown on his face.
“Hey” you leave everything on the table and smile at him. He doesn’t smile back, just nods while you sit down next to him. Why is he being so reserved? You really don’t understand.
You can’t help but notice that he’s sitting in a way that his metal arm is not facing you, how convenient.
“So… have you chosen a movie yet?” you say as you eat popcorn.
“No, still trying to think what to pick” he says, turning his face back to the TV.
"Anything's fine, really. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece (horror movies normally aren't)"
“Alright” and his eyes linger on yours, maybe longer than he intended. You can’t help but notice and smile.
Then he chooses a random movie and press play. He makes himself comfortable and you catch him looking at you. Is he looking at you with happiness, discomfort or something more? You can’t tell, his face is indecipherable.
You turn away from him, you don’t want to make it so obvious that you like him, not before putting your plan into action. So you stare at the movie, but you can still feel his eyes looking at you from time to time.
The movie plays and you’re too nervous to make a move. You sigh, now unsure about everything.
Then, the perfect moment for your plan occurs. There’s a jump scare in the movie. You’re not scared at all, but you jump a little and hold his hand, wanting to see his reaction.
His face doesn't change, but you can feel his body stiffening. Maybe he doesn’t like you after all? Maybe this was a bad idea? Maybe you’re making a fool of yourself?
But then he squeezes your hand and looks at you with a reassuring smile. All the doubts leave your mind when you see that smile that you love so much, when you feel his hand around yours, comforting you.
First part of your plan: done. He didn’t back off, he didn’t look at you like you’re crazy or called you out.
It still didn’t mean anything, right?
You continue watching the movie, and you proceed with the second part of the plan. This is a little more risky, but you assure yourself that it’s worth it. You fake yawn a few times.
Finally, you, slowly, rest your head on his shoulder.
He doesn't move, maybe even being a little more frozen than he normally would be. You smile, this is a good sign, right? You wish you could see his face, or read his mind.
You continue watching the movie like this, resting your head on his shoulder and still holding his hand. There’s nowhere in the world where you wish to be more than here.
You still have more things in your plan, but the movie ends before you can make them happen. You finally separate from him, your body hot where he was touching you.
“Hmm, not the best movie I’ve watched, but entertaining enough, right?” you ask with a smile.
“Yeah, it wasn’t bad” he nods.
He looks at his hands, you can feel he’s nervous. Is that a good sign or a bad one? You can’t tell.
“I should get going” he suddenly says.
You feel disappointed.
You still haven’t decided if you’re gonna confess or not. He didn’t react bad to any of your moves, but you still feel unsure. What if he sees you just like a friend? What if you ruin your friendship? Then again, your friendship hasn't been in its best stage lately, you wouldn't be ruining anything.
You decide to do it. You just can’t stand this feeling. Looking at him, being close to him, but not being able to kiss him, to touch him… it’s just so painful.
“Got somewhere better to be?” you finally ask.
“Not really” he says “But… I should go. Thanks for the movie, tho”
He stands up and starts walking away.
“Wait” you say. You can’t just let him go like that, you may not have another chance like this, where you two are alone “Wait, I… need to tell you something, can you sit down for a minute?”
“Alright” he says with a confused frown, but he does as you say and sits down again.
You swallow nervously, unsure where to start. You decide to start with the beginning:
"I... I kind of lied to you. I wasn't planning on watching a movie with Nat, I haven't even seen her since yesterday. I... planned all of this to spend time with you" you confess "Alone time with you" you specify.
“You did?” he asks. He seems confused.
“Mhm, and you know why?” This is it, you’re gonna say it.
“Why?” he asks softly.
“Because I like you” you finally confess.
The room falls completely silent. Bucky is apparently frozen. You are too.
You try to look into his eyes, looking for a sign. But he’s not looking at you.
“Well? You don’t have anything to say?” you chuckle nervously.
"I..." he stutters before he manages to get his voice back. “I like you too."
You sigh and laugh with relief "Really? I mean, I..."
“Yeah, I really do” This time he looks at you, and you can finally see his eyes. They’re shining, you have never seen them like that, you have never seen them as beautiful “I like you a lot”
You smile and lean in towards him. You look at his lips and then at his eyes, like begging him to kiss you.
You are so close… so close you can feel his breath. So close he can probably hear your fast heartbeat. “Kiss me” you whisper.
You don’t have to ask twice, he closes the space between you and kisses you. His mouth presses against yours, soft and gentle at first, then more firmly, with a hunger that has been growing for too long. His hand travels to your waist, holding you; and yours goes to his hair, holding him even closer to you.
It feels like you two are melting into each other, his body pressed against you, every inch being touched. It feels almost surreal, almost magical.
Your tongues meet and you both let out a murmur of joy. Everything is perfect, this is how things should be.
You grab all the courage you have left and make your way towards his lap, putting each leg on either side of him. He lets it happen. Your legs are now wrapped around him, making it impossible to be closer.
He now holds you with both his arms, probably without thinking about it. Both the warm and the cold sides of him make you feel whole.
You finally separate from him to catch your breath, he seems to be just fine, tho.
He then smiles shyly, like you just did not kiss fiercely a second ago.
“I’m glad you told me”
“Yeah, I’m glad too” you say with a smile.
He shifts, making himself more comfortable, before he looks into your eyes with a smile "I… how long has it been that you feel this way about me?"
You raise your eyebrow, confused by the sudden question, but decide to answer:
“I think I liked you since the moment I met you, since the moment I saw that pretty face framed by that long hair" you laugh, and he blushes a little, making you blush too "But I thought I just liked you as a friend, I didn't realize what my feelings were until a few weeks ago, you know, after that mission... when you were injured, and I thought..."
“You thought what?”
“That I was gonna lose you” you confess and that makes him smile sweetly. Your right hand travels to his cheek and start caressing it "Yeah, and in that moment it hit me: I didn't want you as a friend anymore, I wanted to hold you, to take care of your injury, to kiss you until you feel better”
After a moment of comfortable silence you ask:
“What about you? When did you start to have feelings for me?"
He seems to think about it for a moment, maybe contemplating if he should tell you.
"Do you remember when I told you I was having nightmares about the time I was tortured by HYDRA?"
“Yeah, that night neither of us could sleep?”
"Mhm, well... in that moment, when you comforted me... when you were there for me... I knew then. That was when I realized how much I liked and cared for you, more than any friend or teammate ever before."
You smile softly "That was a while ago, you should've told me sooner"
“I thought you would never feel the same way about me, though you were just being kind, like any friend would”
“That’s funny, I’ve been avoiding telling you because of the same reason” you chuckle slightly.
“I guess we’re both stupid”
“Yeah… But, anyways, I have a question… why were you being so… why were you avoiding me lately?” you didn’t wanna say the word ‘mean’.
“Oh, you notice?” he says, and you can feel embarrassment in his voice “I just… it hurted me being around you, but not being able to… you know… kiss you or…” he rambles.
You smile and kiss him again, this time the kiss is soft and short.
When you separate, you can’t help but laugh out loud with the thoughts that cross your mind.
“God, Nat is not gonna believe I told you”
“What? You've been telling Nat about me?" he raises an eyebrow.
“Of course, she’s my friend” you smile.
"Right, right. What else did you tell her?” he asks. Is he teasing you?
"Oh, nothing, really. Just rambling about how beautiful I think you are... you know, that kind of things girls talk about" you say caressing his cheek. That makes him blush again "I think she would be relieved that I finally confessed, because now I can tell you instead of her, she was getting irritated" you chuckle.
He chuckles too, probably imagining Nat pissed about you rambling about him. The thought of it is just too ridiculous.
"Did you always plan to confess to me at some point then?" he asks.
“Of course, I always have to make the first move” you joke.
"So, you really planned all of this? Not just the movie, but the whole confession as well?" he smirks.
"Yeah, the movie was just to make sure you liked me too. You know, holding your hand and all that... I'm a mastermind"
“And I guess that means you'll be making the first move the rest of the time as well?"
"Of course" you smile evilly.
"Of course," he mimics back. "Well, I guess I'll just have to get used to you taking charge then."
He smiles back at you in the same way you did and leans forward so that his face is close to you again.
"What are you planning next?" he hints with a smirk.
"Well, I was planning on asking you to be my boyfriend?" you ask with a sly smile.
"Be your boyfriend?" he repeats with a teasing smirk. "Did you plan that as well? Is this the next step in the mastermind's plan?"
"Mhm, is it working? Would you say yes?"
"Yes," he suddenly answers, not wasting any time. "I'll be your boyfriend."
"Great" you say and then give him a quick kiss.
"And now that I'm your boyfriend, what are our next steps?"
"I have to keep that a secret, don't want to spoil my masterplan" you wink.
"I should've known," he says, laughing softly. "Always a step ahead, isn't it?"
"Always" you chuckle.

I’ll shut up now. Enjoy! And don’t be afraid to request.

The invite was last minute. Super last minute. Same day last minute. But Steven wasn't complaining, after all, in his mind you were the cute girl down that hall that Steven saw every once in a while and at the laundry mat across the street.
So when you both were there doing your laundry and making conversation, you mentioned the fact that you and your friends were planning on going to a bar but one called out last minute. You said that it was a huge bummer because you needed to have a full party, for some reason, Steven wasn't really listening because he was caught up on you just talking to him in general, he said that he felt sorry for you and your friends.
"Do you maybe want to come?" you asked, sending Steven into a bit of a stammer. You want him to come with you and your friends to a bar? You want to go to a bar with him? His crush wants him to go to a bar with her and her friends. That's so out of Steven's element, on so many levels. He's never been invited to anything, gone out drinking, or had anything more than a glass of wine when he's feeling fancy.
"Um, bars aren't really my scene," Steven explains before you interject with "Oh, it's not a bar bar. It's a rollerskating bar.". Steven looks at you, a bit puzzled, "Really?" he asks. "Really." you echo, "Unless you don't know how to roller skate." you reply. "No, I do." Steven confirms, "I haven't done it in a long time but I can do it." he clarifies.
You nod. "So, are you free tonight to go or not?" you ask, wanting to confirm if he's willing to take your offer. Steven nods, maybe a bit too fast, "Yeah sure. I'm free tonight." he says. He wants to slack himself for accepting going out with you and your friends, who he does not know, immediately after saying the words but the smile that goes across your face makes it worth it. "I'll come get you at 8, then." you say as you grab your clean laundry basket and walk away.
Well, now he has to remember how to roller skate before he makes a fool of himself in front of you and your friend group.
After a deep look in his memory and a few videos for recap and filling in the gaps, 8pm rolls around and he opens his door to you standing there and heading off the meet-up with your friends.
Your friends were nice, he met all of them and they seemed happy to meet him. "We've heard quite a bit about you." one of them says. The bar was dim so that the neon lights that accented the building were vibrant but Steven knew he was blushing at the idea of you talking about him to your friends.
The first half of the night was of you all renting skates and doing a few casual laps around the rink, all talking to each other. But soon, Steven found that your friends either started falling behind or going a bit ahead, leaving just the two of you to talk.
"So you skate regularly, huh?" Steven asks you as you two glide along while classic 70s to 80s music plays loudly in the room. "Yeah. I learned a few years ago." you answer, "It's a fun way to get around and be active." you claim. Steven nods, "I haven't done this in years. I learned when I was a kid and then never wore a pair of skates since." he laughs. "You're doing pretty good for not having done it in so long." you smile.
Steven smiles back and tries to say something when something else catches your attention. It's the beginning percussion of Copacabana by Barry Manilow. Your face lights up immediately and you ask a question that Steven wasn't ready for, "Do you know how to dance?". Steven tries to keep his smile, but his nerves are firing off, "In skates?" he asks like there is another option. You nod and he says no. But when you asked if he wanted to try, he didn't say no, at least not quick enough before you decided that for him.
It was fun. A bit slippery on Steven's end but still fun. He followed your lead as you joined the group of dancing skaters in the middle of the rink. Was it a bit ironic to be dancing to a song about a dancer girl who lost her lover in a bar fight and spent thirty years in a mental spiral? Yeah. But you sure danced like it wasn't. You danced really well actually. It was clear that you were no stranger to dancing in skates or in general.
Steven tried his best to focus on dancing himself rather than watching your body dance around. But you sure knew that your plump curves and body shape had something to it. He actually found that he had to focus on the song that was now playing because twice now he's had what he thinks is Love Shack by the B 52's and Voulez-Vous by ABBA play past him.
After who knows how long in the dance circle you and Steven are winded and take a sit-down break at one of the nearby tables outside the rink. "That was fun." Steven comments, "I know, right." you reply with a smile. "I'm surprised I didn't fall flat on my face. That wasn't too bad, right?" Steven asks.
"You'll get better when you do it more." you say with a more teasing smile.

Beyond the Barricade
Masterlist
Character: Enjolras x f!reader
Summary: All you had ever known was life at the Musain. You worked hard to stay alive and keep your family comfortable, and that's all that you ever needed. But your life's path will be forever altered by a young revolutionary who has his sights set on changing the world.
Warnings: Canon-typical violence, slightly suggestive
Word Count: 19,000
A/N: Enjolras x Reader!! I love this guy so hopefully this isn't half bad. It's all one big long part because I didn't really have a good way to break it up, but I had a couple ideas for scenes that didn't make it in, so if this does well maybe I'll write a couple short one shot things.
Also just want to clarify I'm not an expert, I watched the movie and read wiki articles, but I haven't gotten around to reading the book so there's some stuff I'm just kinda extrapolating. Like I'm pretty sure they meet in the back room of the Musain, but they just meet in the upper floor here. And in the final battle there's the Musain as the base of operations and a non named tavern where they keep the bodies and Javert, just for my own storytelling purposes. (Even though I think there's another place in the book or something idk)
Anyway, enjoy!
-----
You scrubbed at the counter until your arm burned, trying your hardest to get the stains out. Despite your best efforts, nothing budged. You sighed and tossed the rag into your bucket of soapy water, moving on to the leftover dishes strewn across the counter top.
The Café Musain would open soon, and your sister had not done the work that your father had asked of her the night before. So now, as usual, the chores fell to you, while your sister was out gallivanting, probably with one of those ridiculous Amis de l'ABC. You had to stop yourself from rolling your eyes at the mere thought of them. Their revolution had merit, sure, but a fight against the monarchy was hopeless for a bunch of schoolboys. Your father, however, was sympathetic to their cause, so he allowed them to use the upstairs room of the café whenever they pleased.
Your father lumbered through the door, already tired in his old age and having spent the morning arguing with vendors and traders, trying to prevent them from increasing the supply prices yet again. He paused, taking a moment to catch his breath after the long walk and looked around the café. When he saw you behind the counter, he sighed. "Where is your sister? Why is she not helping you?"
You shrugged. "Marie is out and about, I suppose. I can't keep track of all her callers."
Your father pinched his brow. "Okay," he sighed. "Okay."
He made his way over to a table and lowered himself into a chair.
You finished cleaning the glass and filled it with fresh water. Making your way around the bar, you set it down in front of your father.
"Thank you, Y/N," he said softly. He sighed again and leaned back in his chair. "Les Amis de l'ABC are coming tonight. I know your sister usually tends to them, but I want you to do it today. I hate to say this, but she needs to be put in line. I want her to have her fun, but we're struggling here, and if she cannot tend to her duties properly, she doesn't get to do the jobs she likes."
"You're punishing her?"
The nights that Les Amis came to the café, you usually let Marie take care of them. They were a bit too much for you, and you didn't mind working up front while she got to flirt with the students as they planned their revolution. She was not going to be happy about this, and you weren't exactly thrilled either.
"I think it's appropriate discipline," he replied, "until she can manage to balance her work and social life. We are better off than most, but we cannot afford to neglect our work."
"I understand, Papa. I'll talk to her later. "
He laid one of his large hands over yours. "Thank you, Y/N. I'm going up to my room now. I need to go over the books once more before we open."
The big man stood and patted your shoulder gently before exiting the room, leaving you alone in the empty café.
—--
You glanced at the old clock on the wall. You were supposed to open in a matter of minutes, and still no sign of Marie. Usually your father would have come back to help, but you imagined he had fallen asleep in the small apartment upstairs. You decided not to wake him. Your sister and you could manage on your own, provided she showed up, and the old man needed what rest he could get.
You snapped up your head at the door creaking open. In walked Marie, who you hadn't seen since the night before. She rubbed her eyes, all but ignoring you, and grabbed the rag from its bucket, beginning to clean off the counter.
You plucked the rag from her hands, tossing it back in the bucket. When she looked at you in confusion, you sighed.
"It's already done, Marie. I spent the morning doing both of our chores, which I didn't even get to until much later than I should have, because I had to clean up the mess you left last night." You had to admit, you weren't even that upset, just tired.
She tugged at her sleeve and looked away sheepishly. "I'm sorry, Y/N, I really did think that I would have been back sooner. But my friends and I-"
You waved your hand. "It doesn't matter." You grabbed the broom out of the corner and handed it to her. "Give the floors a once over before we open."
She took the broom without complaint and began sweeping. You sat down at one of the tables, giving your feet a much needed break.
"Les Amis de l'ABC are coming tonight," you told her, watching as she moved about the room.
Instantly she perked up. "You know, I think Courfeyrac has his eye on me."
You leaned forward in your seat, resting your head on your hand. "Shame we'll never find out."
She paused her sweeping. "What do you mean?"
You gestured for her to keep sweeping, which she hesitantly did. "Papa says you aren't allowed to tend to Les Amis until you can show up to work when you're supposed to."
Marie opened the door with a loud sigh and swept out her pile of dust. "I suppose that means you're doing it then."
"Yes."
She moved to sit on the counter with another loud and dramatic sigh. "Fine. Tell Courfeyrac I said hello."
You shifted in your seat to face her. "You aren't upset?"
She shrugged. "I knew that Papa would be fed up sooner or later. I'm just glad the punishment isn't as bad as I thought it would be."
"Why do you do it, Marie, leaving us with all the work? Why don't you care about the family?"
"I do," she protested. "I do care about you. I guess I just find my life difficult to come to terms with. Is this café where I spend the rest of my days?"
You joined her behind the counter as the first few customers began to trickle in. "We do not live in a forgiving world, sister. If you want a stable job and home, then likely so. Unless you manage to find a rich man somewhere willing to marry a barmaid."
Marie let out a short laugh. "That would be the day."
—--
Soon, the café was bustling with the evening business.
Your father entered the room, looking slightly more rested than he had earlier that afternoon. You were glad, he deserved the reprieve.
He approached the bar and motioned for you to come talk to him.
He leaned over to you and lowered his voice. "Our.. guests' meeting is about to begin. Your sister and I will take over out here. Bring a few bottles of wine up, they usually start with those."
With a nod, you gathered up the drinks and glasses and made your way to the private upper room. As you approached you heard a strong voice speaking confidently. "Too long have the people of France lived under the thumbs of dictators. I thank you all for joining me today to fight for a new world, a world reborn."
You slipped into the room, staying in the shadow of the doorframe, meaning to allow the speech to come to a natural pause before interrupting. You didn't get the chance, however, before a voice in the corner cried. "Marie! How nice of you to join us!"
"That's not Marie, you louse, that's her sister!" another voice cried, this one much higher than the first. You glanced down in front of you and your eyes widened.
"Gavroche!" You couldn't help but exclaim, startled to see Eponine's younger brother. "Does your sister know you are here?"
"Yep!" The boy said proudly. "I'd be happy to take that off your hands, milady," he said, reaching for the tray of wine.
You lifted it out of his reach. "I think you're a bit young for me to be giving you this."
A hand rested on the boy's shoulder. "Pardon young Gavroche, he only wishes to be of help."
You looked up and met the eye of the blond man who had been speaking at the front of the room only moments ago. Your breath hitched for a moment at his intense gaze.
"I can take the wine," he added when you said nothing. You blinked away your initial startledness and handed the tray over to him.
"Thank you, Mademoiselle," he said. He leaned closer to you, a conspiratorial look on his face. "We'll likely need another round soon, though, knowing these men."
"Of course, Monsieur. I'll be back soon to check on you all. I'll be up front if you need anything before then."
The rest of the night was spent going back and forth, clearing away a glass or two at a time, doing your best not to draw attention.
At the end of the night, you stood behind the counter, counting the night's earnings as customers began to leave.
Marius approached the counter, as he always did this time of night, after Les Amis had had their fill of drinks and politics and were heading home.
"Good evening, Monsieur Marius," you greeted him.
"Hello, Y/N." He handed you a pouch of coins. "This should cover the tab, along with a little extra as a tip. You did excellent on your first night with us."
His tone was slightly teasing. He knew you would rather stay behind the counter. But you weren't lying when you shrugged and said "I didn't mind it all that much. Work is work, people are people." You counted out the change as he watched, sorting it into neat piles. "They're making you pay again?"
"They all chip in," he said. "They just make me take it up to you. Trying to force me to talk to people, I think" he said with a grin.
You laughed softly and put the money away. "Have a good night, Marius."
"You too, Y/N."
You watched the young man leave the café before turning to get the cleaning supplies out. When your father saw what you were doing, he came over and took the supplies from you. "Marie will take care of the cleaning up after Les Amis de l'ABC are gone from here on out," he told you.
You raised an eyebrow. "You don't think that's harsh?"
"It is. That's precisely the point."
Marie sighed one of her signature sighs as she passed by and took the cleaning supplies from your father, the same way he had taken them from you. "You two go on up to bed then, I'll take care of this."
Your father gave her a little pat. "Good that, Marie," he said, before turning and making his way to his room.
"I think I'll go sit outside for a while," you told her. "It's a nice night."
She shrugged. "I'm not your boss."
Shaking your head, you opened the creaky door and sat on the concrete step leading up to it, leaning your back on one of the pillars that framed the entrance. The city was silent this time of night, and you loved the brief respite from your hectic life. You hadn't been able to enjoy it in a while, though, thanks to Marie and her antics always leaving you with far more work than free time.
No sooner had you relaxed than the door opened once more, spilling warm light from inside on to the dark street.
You jumped to your feet, startled by the sudden intrusion. "I am so sorry, Mademoiselle," said the silhouette at the same time you started splattering muddled apologies, your brain still scrambled from the scare.
The voice gave you pause. You recognized that voice. As the figure stepped away from the door, you realized why. The leader of Les Amis de l'ABC stepped on to the street, concern in his eyes. "Are you all right?" he asked, closing the door behind him.
You nodded as you smoothed down your clothes taking your seat once more. "You startled me is all. I didn't think any patrons were still here."
He shrugged. "I was working on a paper and Marie kicked me out."
"If you need to finish, I'm sure I could-"
"No, no," he interrupted. "Thank you, but I can finish it another night."
"Alright then," you said. "Goodnight, Monsieur."
He gave you a curt nod. "Mademoiselle." Turning on his heel he began to make his way down the street. He only made it a few steps before turning back towards you. "Actually, I do have a question for you. You seem like you actively avoid my little group, but tonight you replaced Marie. Why?"
"Marie was being punished, that is all. Our father told her she could not work with you all because she enjoys it."
"And you don't."
You hesitated, unsure of how to respond. He asked no question, only offered an observation.
"You don't agree with our ideals," he said when you didn't respond. Another observation. He stepped forward, offering you his arm. "Walk with me. Allow me to convince you."
You laughed softly at his boldness. "Is that what you say to all the women?"
A hint of a smile brushed his lips. "Only the pretty ones."
"I don't know," you said, now smiling as well, your teasing tone juxtaposing your objections, "walking off with a strange man at night sounds dangerous."
"What if I promise to protect you?"
You glanced back at the door, light glowing from the crack at the bottom. With a sudden burst of resolve, you pushed yourself off of the stone and took his outstretched arm. "I'm going to hold you to that promise."
"I'd expect nothing less."
The two of you walked side by side in the night. Neither of you spoke for a while, but the silence was comfortable.
"So why do you avoid us?" he asked, finally breaking the quiet.
"I don't avoid you, per say…"
He only raised an eyebrow in response.
You shrugged. "I only think that you are taking great risks to do what you do, and have seen very little reward. It's not something I want a part in."
"The reward will come," he responded. "In time. Even if we are not there to see it."
"In time, perhaps," you said. "But I find it difficult to justify jeopardizing what I have for a world that I will not live to see."
"But what of those who have nothing to jeopardize? People suffer because of tyrants that hoard all of the wealth. France is dying because of the rich who hold the resources captive."
You stayed quiet for a moment after that, pondering. Finally you asked, "Say you're starting to convince me, what can a few schoolboys possibly do?"
"Light the flame of revolution. We won't be fighting the war, merely the first battles. We are not foolish enough to believe that change will come quickly, but if we give it all we have, people will rise when we fall. Then one day the world we long to see will come into fruition."
Again, this gave you pause, as you pondered over the words and their meaning. "Would you mind terribly if I sat in on the next meeting? Of course, I would still do any of the services your group needs."
"That depends," he replied, his tone light. "Would you be sitting in the way that Marie does, or would it be to listen to what we are discussing?"
This made you laugh. No doubt Marie was often a distraction in meetings, with her bubbly personality and her need to make friends with any human being who crossed her path. "I would like to think the latter," you told him.
He smiled. "Then I would be honored that you join us." He slowed and came to a halt. "I believe this is your stop, Mademoiselle."
Sure enough, you had made a full loop around the block without even realizing it, and you were back at the front door of the Café Musain.
"Right," you said, "I'll be seeing you soon, then." You dropped his arm. "Goodnight, Monsieur."
Taking your hand in his, he bent over and pressed a feather light kiss to your knuckles. "Goodnight, Mademoiselle."
You felt the blood rush to your cheeks at his gentle touch.
With a final nod goodbye, you turned toward the door. You had only made it a step when he shouted, "Wait!"
You stopped and turned around to face him, waiting for him to say something more.
“I never learned your name,”
“Y/N,” you called. “And yours?”
“Enjolras.”
“Well then, goodnight Enjolras, and I will see you again soon.”
“Goodnight, Y/N, I look forward to it.”
—--
When you walked in, the chores were complete, the lights were out, and Marie was nowhere to be found. As silently as possible, you made your way up the stairs, past the upper room that held the Amis meeting space, and into the small apartment on the topmost level. Your father's door was shut tight, but you could hear his snores even through the thick oak frame. You cracked the door to your small room and slipped in, trying to avoid waking Marie in the next room over. You quickly slipped on your nightclothes and ducked under the covers, heart still thumping in your chest from the excitement of the night.
"Where were you?"
You jumped up at the sudden noise as Marie's whispered question broke the silence to see your sister looking through a crack in your open door.
Your chest tightened at the question, but you responded hesitantly, "I went on a walk."
"That's not the whole truth," she said, slipping into your room.
"How would you know that?" you hissed in response.
"I saw you walking with someone."
So there was no hiding it then. Not that you had a reason to, it was just a friendly conversation. "Enjolras."
Marie gasped loudly.
"Shhh!"
"Oh, stop it," she said. "Papa is fast asleep."
She lit the candle on your small nightstand and plopped herself down on your bed with such force you couldn't help but make a soft "oof" sound. "What were you doing with Enjolras?"
You shrugged. "He saw me outside and asked to talk to me about his revolution, so we did, that's all."
"Ugh," said Marie. "Boring. I've never been able to get him to say more than a few words to me though, so clearly something you're doing is working."
Your eyes widened at the implications of her statement. "I'm not doing anything! We were just talking!"
Marie looked disbelievingly at you. "Mhm, sure. You have to admit he's attractive though."
You hid your face beneath the covers, which she promptly yanked down. "I'm going to take that as you agreeing with me," she said.
"Even if I did agree with you," you said, swatting away her hand, "there's nothing to do about it. He's more interested in the revolution, and his family is far wealthier than ours."
"True," she said, "but he has never once tried to recruit me for the cause, even before I started getting a little friendly with some of the boys. And how can you truly think class would matter to him? It's the antithesis of who he is."
"I'm sitting in on the meeting next time."
Marie nodded. "Good. And you'll be waiting for him at the steps again at the end of the night."
"I will?"
"Of course. You must establish a pattern."
Your jaw dropped. "Marie, are you trying to set us up?"
"Yes," she answered shortly. "And it's going to work." She pinched out the candle and left back to her own room without so much as a goodnight.
—--
You thought about Enjolras a lot the next few days. There wasn't even much cohesive thought to it, just his smile, his warm hands, the way the dim street lights shone through his hair.
The rest of Les Amis de l’ABC were regular customers of the café. They were loud and jovial on the nights they had no official meeting, but never had you seen Enjolras on a night that there was no meeting. Now that you were listening, though, you heard the other students speak of him. He preferred to stay home studying and planning than spend his nights out and about.
You replayed the memory of your walk over and over in your mind, for no reason other than the joy it brought you to remember him.
Finally, finally, the day came when Les Amis de l'ABC would meet again above the Café Musain. You hated to admit it, in the fear that you were getting excited over nothing, but your heart buzzed all morning at the thought of seeing him again. The customers began to arrive and you busied yourself in the back doing inventory as your father made the night's meal.
Marie poked her head around the corner. "Y/N, he's- they're here," she corrected herself quickly after seeing your father.
"Thank you, Marie," you said, and gathered up the tray of drinks you had already prepared.
Your father looked up from his task. "Good luck."
Muttering a quick "Thank you," you slipped out the door and made your way upstairs. Like the last time, the meeting had just started by the time you got there. It came to a quick halt as you entered though, as the men realized that drinks had arrived.
You made eye contact with Enjolras from across the room, and you did your best to ignore the butterflies from his intense gaze. He made no move to get to the drinks like the rest of the men did, but you gave him a small smile and he nodded briefly in return.
You spent the majority of the night in the back of the room, listening, save for the time you spent running for drinks and food. The more you listened, the more you found yourself being swayed towards the revolution. The things they spoke of called to mind all of the suffering people you saw around you, even in your small sheltered corner of the world. Who knew how bad it was in the areas of the city even poorer than yours, or rough areas like the docks, where you were forbidden to even go.
Enjolras was a strong leader, confident and well spoken, and it was clear that he was respected by everyone in the room. It made you wonder why a man who already had plenty of people that agreed with him and the ability to sway many more was wasting his time by radicalizing a singular barmaid. Free drinks on the battlefield, maybe.
Like all nights, this one came to an end. You gathered up the dishes and took them out to Marie, who had begun cleaning the kitchen. Les Amis de l'ABC began filing out the door, talking loud and cheerily as they left.
You placed the dishes into the bucket of soapy water, earning a sharp look from Marie.
"Get out there," she said. "He'll be out soon."
You shook your head. "Marie, he's probably already left with everyone else. I know what Papa said about your punishment, but at least let me do the dishes."
Did you want to do the dishes? No. Were you far too nervous to come face to face with Enjolras again, now that Marie had put all these ideas in your head? Absolutely.
Marie quickly moved in front of you, blocking you from the dishes. "He hasn't left yet, I have to kick him out every single time he has one of these meetings."
"Marie-"
"Go."
Giving her a sharp glare, you obliged. As you sat on the stone and leaned against one of the pillars framing the door, you closed your eyes and let out a sigh of contentment. Enjolras or not, you had a sizable appreciation for the peaceful night.
Like before, you were alone in the night, and like before, it didn't last long.
The door creaked open, gentler than it had last time, and light once more flooded the street.
"Ah, Mademoiselle, I was wondering if I would find you out here again."
You stood and turned towards the voice, pleased to see that the small smile on your face matched his own.
"I thought I had given you my name?"
He held up his hands in concession. "My apologies. Y/N, I was wondering if I would see you here again."
"Well, here I am,"
"Here you are indeed."
The moment's silence that followed was far more awkward than any silence had been last time, but he made no move to leave. You cleared your throat. "Working on a paper again?"
He chuckled. "I usually am. Marie is responsible for cleaning again?"
You nodded. "For the foreseeable future."
He nodded, and things were silent again.
It was his turn to clear his throat. "Care to take another walk? You can tell me what you thought of the meeting."
You stepped toward the street, looking back at him. "I thought you'd never ask."
And so you did walk. And again after the next meeting. And again after the next.
You talked of politics at first, but your conversations soon gave way to more personal matters. Talks of opinions, and the future. His favorite color was red. He was in law school. He told you he wanted to help people who couldn't help themselves, but he didn't need to say anything for you to figure that out. He was not warm or welcoming, not on the outside, but his compassion for others was evident in everything that he did.
You noticed that he started coming to the café far more regularly. At least once a week he would sit working silently in the most private corner of the upper room, never ordering, but he would always meet you at the end of the night for your walk.
You found yourself spending all your time thinking of him. He was on your mind in every idle moment. But still, you hesitated to admit why.
You fell into a routine on meeting nights, and no longer felt dread before attending them. On one such night, you were running a bit late. You hurriedly made your way up the stairs, only to be greeted outside the door by a seemingly flustered Enjolras.
He took you by the shoulders and guided you away from the doorframe.
Tucked in the corner of the hallway, he glanced worriedly over his shoulder. "Can Marie work tonight?" he asked.
You shook your head. “It’s just me and Papa tonight, actually. Marie is sick. I actually needed to talk to you about that. It’s why I was late up here and why I won’t be able to stay for the meeting tonight.”
“Let me take the drinks in, then,” he said. “Best that you get back downstairs.”
“Oh, that’s alright. It’ll only take me a moment,” you replied, trying to move past him.
“Y/N, please do not go in there.”
“What is this about, Enjorlas? You’re acting strange.”
“I will tell you later.”
You pushed past him, balancing your tray on one hand. “Or you could let me do my job,” you said, walking to the doorway. He reached out and grabbed your wrist.
“Y/N, please.”
You pulled your hand away and walked into the room. The second you entered, you were greeted with shouts of your name, accompanied by hearty laughter. The men were usually excited to get their drinks, but never this excited.
In the corner, one man grabbed his closest companion tightly. “Y/N, my love!” he cried, gazing into the other man’s eyes. “Nothing can tear us apart!”
The other man clasped his hands together and fluttered his eyelashes while speaking in a high pitched voice, “Oh, Enjolras, run away with me!”
“Enjolras” took “Y/N” into his embrace, the two of them writhing in what you could only assume was an exaggerated passionate kiss, earning plenty more laughs from the rest of the men.
You could do nothing but stare in horror as you watched the scene unfold in front of you. A gentle hand rested on your shoulder, and you looked up at Enjolras, your eyes still wide in shock. “Someone saw us out walking together, and the story spread,” he told you gravely. “I am truly sorry.”
You gently removed his hand from your shoulder, not wanting to give the men any more ideas than they already have, and your shocked expression morphed into a determined one. “You have nothing to apologize for, but these men do.”
You slammed the drink tray on the table, and the harsh sound was enough to gain everyone’s attention. “I don’t know what you all think is happening,” you began, “but I can guarantee that anything happening between Enjorlas and I is none of anyone’s business but our own. But since you must know, he has been teaching me politics so that I can better understand these meetings, which up until now, had been full of men I respected. My father does you all a great service by allowing you to meet here, and by disrespecting me, you disrespect him. Not to mention the disrespect to the man who leads you sorry lot.”
You pushed the drink tray to the center of the table. “Serve yourselves tonight.” Turning on your heel, you stormed out of the room. There was no protest, only deafening silence. You did not look back, remaining steady on your course, but if you had, you would have noticed the small proud smile on Enjolras’ face.
—--
You finished the clean up as fast as you could that night, in the hope that you would still be able to catch Enjolras before he left. To your dismay, you caught a glimpse of him leaving right around his usual time, even without Marie to kick him out. You finished up the rest of your work, feeling quite disappointed, and made your way outside regardless. May as well get some fresh night air if you still could.
To your surprise, you found a familiar figure waiting. Enjolras was silhouetted in the darkness of the street, but there was enough light to see when he outstretched his hand toward you. “Care to join me?” he asked.
Silently, you took his hand, and the pair of you began your usual stroll.
After some silence, he finally spoke. "Like I told you before, one of the boys saw us out walking after the last meeting. The mockery has been nonstop since. You have my sincerest apologies that you had to hear that."
"It's not your fault. We both know it means nothing."
But did it mean nothing? Not if you asked Marie. And maybe, just maybe, there was a small part of you that didn't quite mind what those men were saying.
"Nothing?" asked Enjolras, his voice tight.
You kept your sights straight ahead, unable to look him in the eyes. "I only mean to say that what we do is our business, no one else's."
He seemed to relax almost imperceptibly when you said that, and you couldn't decide if that made you feel better or worse.
Suddenly, you felt a droplet on your skin. Looking up at the sky, you could just make out the edges of the clouds in the inky darkness. You had barely made it a few more steps when the rain sped up, moving quickly from a drizzle to a downpour.
Almost instinctively, Enjolras shrugged off his coat and held it above the two of you, trying to offer the best protection he could from the rain. “This way,” he said, his voice raised slightly to be heard above the sound of droplets hitting the ground. He led you to a shop front with a small outcropping, where the two of you huddled, trying to stay as dry as possible. Despite Enjolras’ best efforts, though, both of you were soaking wet.
“Here,” he said, wrapping his coat around you. “We can wait here for a while until the rain slows down.”
“Oh, I don’t need this,” you tried to protest as you began to take off his coat. “Better that you stay dry, you’ve got a longer route home.”
“I insist,” he replied, pulling the coat around you once more. “I would be abandoning any gentlemanly values I have left if I let you give this back to me. Winter is creeping closer and this rain is freezing.”
You held his gaze for a moment, trying to gauge if you had any chance of convincing him to take it back, but were met only with his intense eyes and sheer determination behind them. Deciding that he really wasn’t going to take the coat back, you pulled it closer around you. He gently pulled his arm around you, and without even thinking about it, you nestled into his side. The soft pitter patter of the rain was peaceful, and you were pretty sure you could have fallen asleep there if you had wanted to.
“Y/N?” Enjolras broke the silence after a while.
“Yes?”
“I must confess something to you. I have to admit, I was not… completely bothered by what my men have been saying about us. I do not appreciate their mockery, but… I don’t mind when they talk of us being together.”
You pulled back, looking up at him in shock. “What are you saying?”
Reaching up to brush a strand of hair away from your face, he chose not to respond with words, instead moving his hand to your jawline and drawing you gently into his face, planting a light kiss on your lips. When he pulled away, your face was burning and you were left speechless. His gaze was darker than you had ever seen it before. Seeing the stunned look on your face, he stood and offered you his hand, refusing to meet your eyes again. “I’m sorry,” he said. “That was out of turn. Let’s get you home.”
You wanted to tell him that it wasn’t out of turn, that you felt the same way, but you were paralyzed, overwhelmed by your emotions, so you took his hand and made your way home through the downpour. You moved like a zombie, feelings burning bright on the inside, but unable to articulate any of it outwardly.
—--
Marie was asleep when you got back, and you quickly and silently got into bed, piling a few extra blankets on top to combat the steadily dropping temperatures. As you drifted off to sleep, your thoughts were filled with Enjolras, and you could only hope that he had made it home safely and warmly, and that you hadn't offended him too terribly.
—--
You woke the next day to white flurries outside your window. It was the first snow of the season, and it showed no signs of stopping. As of now, it was only a light dusting, but you were sure that by late afternoon the ground would be covered. Marie was up and about, having recovered from yesterday's sickness, and your father only spent part of the day out of his room, retiring early because of the cold’s poor effect on his old bones. You and Marie spent the evening by the warmth of the kitchen fire, chatting, reading, and working on various projects since no patrons had made their way through the thick snow that blanketed all by now. It grew darker outside and the snow grew higher. Marie had just begun to suggest heading to bead when you heard a knock at the door.
You exchanged worried glances and Marie quickly made her way to the front of the store, with you following close behind. She opened the door and let out a large gasp.
“Enjolras?” she said, clearly taken aback.
“Is Y/N there?”
She stepped aside, allowing him to see you. He rushed forward, gripping your shoulders firmly, as Marie shut the door behind him as fast as she could. He seemed to be completely unaffected by his blue lips or his usually curly hair that was frozen into frizzy chunks.
His gaze was more intense than you had ever seen it, his blue eyes seeming to bore into your very soul. “Y/N, I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t go another moment without seeing you again. Last night was all wrong, I know that, but I need you to know how I feel, and I need to say it properly.”
“That can wait,” you replied before he could continue. “We need to get you warmed up right now, before you get sick. I don’t need to explain to my neighbors why a rich boy died of frostbite in my home.”
“Marie,” you said, taking Enjolras’ hand and leading him to the kitchen, “will you grab my blankets from my bed and bring them down here? And see if there's any of Papa's old clothes about? I’m going to heat up some of our leftover dinner.”
Marie gave you a mischievous look, glancing back and forth between you and Enjolras, but for once in her life she kept quiet and did what was asked of her, and she scampered upstairs to get all the extra winter furs she could find.
“Take off every layer that you can without exposing yourself,” you told him. “Marie will bring back a change of clothes, but the wet clothes are going to be what kills you if you don’t get out of them.” He complied silently removing his coat and layer beneath that, leaving him only in a button down undershirt and trousers.
You busied yourself getting him something hot to eat. "Thank the Lord that Marie never cleans up after herself," you muttered to yourself when you noticed that she had left the pot she had used for dinner out above the fire, keeping the small amount of soup still inside of it warm.
The entire time, Enjolras' gaze never left you, waiting for you to relax for a moment before he spoke again. He would have to wait longer, though, because just as you set the soup in front of him, Marie entered the kitchen with a large pile of blankets. She set them down next to the hearth and brushed her hands together. "Well, unless you two need me any longer, I think I'll head up to bed."
"Alright. Thank you, Marie, goodnight," you said.
"Yes, thank you, Marie," Enjolras added.
Marie left, with a wink to you behind Enjolras’ back. Ignoring her goading, you turned toward the hearth, throwing your last log on and stoking the dying flames higher. When at last you were satisfied with your work, you turned to find Enjolras standing, and an empty bowl set on the table.
"Y/N I-"
You shoved a shirt and pants into his hands. "You're soaked to the bone. Change."
"You're avoiding this."
He was always too perceptive, wasn't he? Yes you were avoiding it. It wasn’t as simple as I love you and you love me. There was your status, his status, the work you had to do and the degree he was working towards. The revolution you were fighting.
You started to move past him, out of the kitchen, to give him some privacy. “Obviously. Regardless, you still need to change.” There was no denying that you were avoiding the subject to him- he knew you all too well.
His arm reached out, lightning fast, and he grabbed your arm, stopping you in your tracks. His grip was firm, but not painful. You avoided his gaze, waiting for him to let you go, or say something. “Help me, then.”
You looked up, finally making eye contact. You could see the dare dancing behind his eyes. He knew it would be improper. He also knew you would do anything he asked of you. Without breaking eye contact, he slid his hand down your arm and took your hand, slowly guiding it up to the top button of his shirt. You stood silent and stony faced, weighing your options. Finally caving, you reached up with your other hand and began undoing his shirt, slowly, your fingers brushing lightly against his skin with every button.
“You’re upset,” he said, his voice low.
“You noticed?” The sarcasm dripped from your question.
“I notice everything about you.”
You clenched your jaw as you undid the last button and he shrugged the shirt off of his shoulders. You turned slightly to the side, trying to avoid looking at his bare torso. From noticing the way his skin gleamed in the firelight. From watching the way that the melted snow ran down his body.
“Why did you come here tonight?” you asked.
“I told you. I did not get a chance to tell you how I felt properly. Nor did I give you a chance to respond.”
“At the risk of your life? You could have gotten lost in this storm, and then what? You wander for hours until you freeze to death?”
“You truly think so little of my navigation skills?”
You rolled your eyes. “Say your piece then.”
He stepped towards you, taking your chin in his hand and slowly guiding your face to look at his. “I have never met anyone who makes me as happy as you do. I count down the minutes until our next walk together. I want to be with you as much as possible. Seeing you only once in a while is not enough for me. You are smart, hard-working, and kind, and I want a future with you. I love you, Y/N.”
For all your bravado, your angry facade melted the moment he finished speaking. Your voice was weak, barely above a whisper. “Never did I think I would hear you say those words. I love you too, Enjolras.”
This time, you initiated the kiss. It was far more passionate than the last. Enjolras kept one hand firmly on the side of your face, and snaked the other around your waist, pulling you close to him as you wrapped your arms around his neck. You kissed him until you couldn’t anymore, finally having to come up for air. You pressed your forehead to his, panting slightly.
The reality of what happened suddenly hit you. You had just kissed Enjolras, who was currently holding you very tightly against his very bare chest. And the air around you was still freezing. Gently, you pushed yourself away from him. “Finish changing,” you told him. “I’ll be right back with more firewood.”
He smiled. You had never seen him smile so brightly. “Come back quickly,'' he whispered as you left.
—--
The cold outside was unbearable, even in the back alley behind the café where you stored the firewood. How had Enjolras made the journey all the way from his school in this? Grabbing a bundle, you rushed back inside, hurrying back to the kitchen and its warmth. When you entered, you found a fully clothed Enjolras curled up in the large pile of blankets on the floor next to the hearth.
“Y/N!” he exclaimed, the worry evident on his face. “You’re shivering!”
You raised an eyebrow. “You’re one to talk. I’m glad you have the color back in your cheeks. You had me worried.” You threw more logs on the fire, stoking the flames to a much more considerable size. You set down the poker, but did not get the chase to stand before you were being pulled into a mass of fur and warmth. Before you knew it, you were once again wrapped in Enjolras’ embrace. Surrounded by blankets and his strong arms, you were so warm.
“Please stay,” he said gently.
“I wouldn’t dream of leaving.”
He kissed the top of your head, and you were lulled to sleep by his gentle breathing and the sounds of the crackling flames.
—--
When you woke, Enjolras was still asleep. Judging by the dying flames in the fireplace, it had only been a few hours.
Carefully, you removed yourself from Enjolras’ embrace and out of the pile of blankets. You wanted nothing more than to stay with him, but you would prefer to not have to explain to your father why you were in such a compromising position.
"I wouldn't dream of leaving" you had told him only a little while ago, but you knew he would understand.
Silently, you made your way to your room. Making a stop at Marie’s room, you stole a few of the blankets off of her massive pile and curled up in your bed, drifting back to sleep with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart.
—--
You rubbed the sleep from your eyes and pushed yourself out of bed. Marie's door was still shut, and as you walked out of your room, you saw your father's door wide open, with him nowhere inside. You grimaced, hoping that he hadn't been too upset after finding Enjolras.
As you made your way downstairs, you were astonished to hear your father's hearty laughter from the kitchen. Of course, you really shouldn't have been. Your father had always sympathized with Les Amis de l'ABC, and he had no way of knowing what Enjolras had said or done last night. You shivered as you remembered his gentle touch and the way he held you.
Rounding the corner you were greeted by your father and Enjolras, who were talking at one of the tables in the main seating area.
"Good morning chouchou!" your father called. "Enjolras has been telling me of you and Marie's heroics last night."
Enjolras nodded. "It was quite foolish of me to think I could visit Grantaire and make it back to my own home before the worst of the storm hit. I am incredibly grateful I was able to stop here," he said, giving you a pointed look as he subtly filled you in on the story he had told your father.
"I'm just glad you were not stranded out in the storm," you told him, taking a seat at the table.
"You can imagine my surprise when I found him curled up next to our fireplace this morning," your father said. "Speaking of, I should go prepare breakfast. I was a bit distracted after finding Enjolras." He gave you a quick pat on the shoulder and disappeared into the kitchen.
You turned to Enjolras, your voice lowered so your father could not hear. "You lied to him?"
"I didn't know if you wanted him to know or not," he replied. "Should I have told him the truth?"
You thought for a moment, and then shook your head. "Give it a little more time, I think. We're only just figuring it out."
Before he could reply, your father stuck his head out from the kitchen. "Y/N, would you go wake Marie? Breakfast will only be a few minutes."
—--
For a day trapped inside, it flew by surprisingly quickly. Once Marie joined you, your group spent much of the day around the table, talking and exchanging stories. The snow had stopped, but your father insisted that Enjolras stay one night more to give the drifts that covered the streets more time to melt. After several protests, Enjolras agreed.
Your father and Marie had turned in for the night (Marie far too eagerly), leaving you and Enjolras completely alone, just like the night before. You fiddled with the hem of your sleeve, unsure of what to say.
"Alone at last," Enjolras remarked.
"Indeed," you replied, your tone light and teasing. "What to do?"
He smiled fully, a rare sight to see. "I have a few ideas."
He leaned across the table, meeting you halfway, as he captured your lips in a kiss just as passionate as the one from the night before. Slowly, without breaking the kiss, he stood and maneuvered you so that you were sitting on the table, him standing between your legs. You ran your fingers through his silky blond curls, tangling your hands in his hair as you drew him closer to you.
Eventually you had to stop. The short pauses between kisses was not nearly enough to catch your breath.
You broke away, the both of you panting, and you buried your head in Enjolras’ neck.
"I love you," he whispered.
You slowly pulled away, the lightheartedness of the past few moments fading as reality crashing back down on you. "Enjolras, I think we need to talk about that."
His brow furrowed. "I thought you told me you loved me too."
You sighed, unable to meet his eyes. "I do it's just-"
"Go on." His voice was low, gravely serious, but not threatening. You felt safe with him, you always had.
"You are in a completely different class of society than I am. I know you don't care, but that does not change the obstacles that come along with it if we want a future together. And the revolution! How can we truly commit to one another if the most important thing is France?"
When he didn't respond, you raised your eyes to finally meet his and saw that his gaze had softened considerably as had his words when he finally spoke. "We can face those challenges together, when they come. And the revolution is not an obstacle so long as our love for this city binds us together."
You nodded, a silent agreement to his reassurement. He took your face in his hands. "I know you, Y/N, and you know me. Our love for each other is stronger than anything the world can throw our way."
"I'm going to hold you to that," you whispered.
"You had better."
You leaned back into him, planting a kiss on his lips, far gentler than the one before.
"I should probably go up to my own bed," you told him, your voice all too easily betraying your hesitating to leave him.
"Goodnight, chérie," he said, placing a kiss on your brow before he moved to the side, allowing you to hop off the table and walk past him.
You didn't get very far when you felt him grab your hand and spin you around until he was holding you tightly against him once more and pressing one last kiss to your lips.
You broke away and brushed a golden lock of hair away from his eyes. "Goodnight Enjolras, I will see you in the morning."
—--
Enjolras left early the next morning, the snow having melted enough for him to make the journey safely. "A few days' time," he told you, "Then I will be back for a Les Amis de l'ABC meeting."
You helped your father work in the kitchen, preparing for the guests that would surely arrive that afternoon now that the snow had subsided. Marie worked on cleaning tables and floors in the outer rooms.
"So," your father began. "You and Enjolras?"
You froze, your eyes widening at the unexpected comment. "Whatever do you mean, Papa?"
Your father laughed heartily. "You think that I do not notice? You look at that man like he is the greatest thing you have seen, and he looks at you the same way. Not to mention the walks you two have been taking for quite some time now."
You stared in disbelief. "You knew?"
"Of course I knew. You and Marie aren't as secretive as you think you are. I'm happy for you chouchou. Enjolras is a good man, and I can tell he makes you happy."
"Thank you, Papa," you said sheepishly. You scooped up the pile of inventory you had been working on and left the kitchen to take it to the storage, shaking your head and muttering to yourself, "He knew the whole time." Try as you might, though, you couldn't shake the smile from your face.
—---
The rest of the night was largely uneventful. Customers came in, you served them, and they left. You and Marie were cleaning up for the night when a familiar face burst through the door.
"Oh no!" the girl said, looking around at the empty space. "Are you closed already?"
"Never for you, Eponine!" A grin spread across your face at the sight of your old friend. You hurried towards her, pulling her into a hug. "Where have you been? I haven't seen you in months, and Gavroche never gives me a straight answer when I ask him!"
"My parents were busted in a scam and we had to flee to the countryside. We've only just returned," she replied, squeezing you tightly.
"And what of Gavroche?" you asked. "He has been here the whole time! Has someone been caring for him?"
She nodded. "There was no time to take Gavroche when we ran, but we knew he would be able to stay with one of Les Amis. He's been staying with Courfeyrac, I believe."
"Oh, Eponine," you said, "I wish you would just come and work here. We could give you an honest living and lodgings, and you would not need to live a life on the run."
"Y/N, you know I couldn't. My father is far too vengeful, and I would never want to put you and your family in danger."
You sighed. "I know Eponine. Just remember our doors are always open. Truly, I am just glad you are back."
“You must catch me up,” she said, suddenly excited as she pulled you down to sit at a table.
“Well,” you began with a smile, “I have made good friends with Les Amis de l’ABC.”
Eponine’s shock was evident. “You? Getting all buddy buddy with the politicians?”
“You know I have never been one for politics, but it is far more than that. It is the very roots of our society that must change.”
Eponine laughed. “You sound like Enjolras!”
You shrugged and looked down sheepishly, a small smile on your face, and Eponine gasped. “What?” she asked.
“Two days ago he told me that he loved me.”
Eponine stared, her mouth agape. She leaned back in her seat, shaking her head silently. “You and Enjolras, of all people. Who would have thought?”
—--
Your time with Enjolras was a blur, filled with joy and passion - for one another and for the revolution.
You went to meetings and rallies, him hardly letting you out of his sight in the crowds. But most importantly, you had continued your nighttime walks, that brief moment of bliss that the two of you could share together, away from the rest of the world.
And you were ever so thankful for those moments, because you had something big planned.
Tonight he stopped in front of the Café Musain, took you in his arms, and kissed you, just as he always did. Spring was in full force, and the warm air danced around you. But instead of going inside, as per usual, you grabbed his hands and pulled him around the back of the building.
“Y/N, what are you-”
“Shh,” you hushed him. “Follow me.” You began to scale the side of the building, the hand and foot holds familiar to you. You hoisted yourself onto the roof, looking down at your lover following, although somewhat slower than you had been. When he was within reach, you grabbed his hand and pulled him up to you, a little too forcefully, causing him to stumble over the ledge and into your arms.
“Fancy meeting you here,” you said quietly, still holding him close. He smiled, something that was becoming rarer and rarer these days, and began to lean in for yet another kiss- not that you ever tired of them- when something gave him pause. He stepped back from you, although he did not drop your hand, and surveyed the roof, eyes wide in astonishment.
“Y/N, what is this?” he asked, gesturing to the scenic roof that Eponine and Marie had helped you prepare earlier that day. A dozen or so candles flickered in the night, illuminating a simple blanket adorned with flowering embroidery. The flowers on the blanket matched the small basket that eponine had brought, filled with a flower arrangement. You pulled him down to sit on the blanket with you and pulled out another basket, this one filled with the food that you had made that morning. Pulling out the contents, you spread them around the two of you. “It’s a picnic,” you told him. “I made it for us. I thought it might be romantic.”
Enjolras smiled again, and it warmed your heart. “It’s amazing Y/N,” he said.
You pushed some food towards him. “Eat,” you said, “I’ll be right back.”
As he ate, you opened the door on the corner of the roof and dropped the ladder. You climbed inside the café and dashed to your room, grabbing a box and quickly running back to the roof. You took your place back on the blanket and handed him the box, slightly fidgety with impatience. “This is for you.”
“Chérie, you know I do not expect gifts. You did not have to-”
You waved your hand, dismissing his protests. “Just open it.”
After one last pointed look towards you, he complied, and opened the box, pulling out the contents with a shocked look on his face. He slowly felt the fabric as he looked up at you. “Y/N, this is beautiful.” You swelled with pride as your hard work was appreciated, watching him admire the red jacket you had made him.
“I worked some shifts at the sewing shop to afford the nicer fabric,” you told him. “And then I spent my evenings working on it. The buttons,” you scooted closer to him to point them out, “are the best part.” You ran your finger over one, and in the candlelight you could see the inscription on the metal. ABC.
“Y/N,” he said softly, wonder in his eyes, “this is amazing.”
“You did say red was your favorite, right?” you asked.
“I did,” he said, shrugging on the jacket. “It’s perfect Y/N.”
“I do not have much to give,” you told him, “but I wanted you to have something to remind you of me.”
“I do not need to be reminded, Y/N, for you are always in my thoughts. But this jacket is now my most prized possession.”
You smiled. “Good. I am glad you like it.”
—--
Time went on, and as it did, political tensions rose. And as political tensions rose, so did Enjolras’ stress. He was more distant, and the more you tried to reach him, the more he withdrew. He was becoming short tempered and irritable, and you did most of the talking on your walks.
Why could you not comfort him like you used to? Was your presence no longer enough?
You waited for him tonight, as you always did after meetings, and when he exited the café, he did not offer you his arm, simply rushed past you.
“Apologies, Y/N,” he called over his shoulder, not breaking stride, “but I have far too much to do. I will try to make time to see you soon, but it may need to wait until the meeting next week.”
Before you could even reply, he was out of earshot, and you were left alone on the stairs of the Café Musain.
—--
The next day, you rose bright and early, a mission on your mind.
Quickly dressing and grabbing a bite to eat, you made your way downstairs, passing by a barely awake Marie
"Where are you off to?" she slurred, still mostly asleep.
You sighed. "To find Enjolras. I should have said something to him sooner, because he's been so stressed lately, but I didn't want to bring it up. But then he skipped our walk last night…"
Marie raised her eyebrows, the fogginess of sleep seemingly disappearing instantaneously. "He skipped your walk? He's never missed one, has he?"
You shook your head. "I'm worried about him, Marie. Only a few weeks ago we were as thick as thieves, but since we've received the news of Lamarque's sickness he's like a completely different man."
She placed a comforting hand on your shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. "You'll find him, Y/N, and you'll help him through this, I know it."
You nodded your thanks and made your way out to the street only to be startled by Gavroche, dashing across the street with some of his friends.
Perfect.
"Gavroche!" You called after him. "Gavroche, I need your help!"
The young boy spun on his heel and sprinted towards you as his friends continued onward. “Whad'ya need, Y/N?”
You crouched down to his level to speak to him. “I need to go to Enjolras’ apartment. Do you know where it is?”
He nodded, but then his brow furrowed. “Haven’t you been seeing him? Why don’t you know where he lives?”
You sighed. “I’ve never had cause to visit him alone in his apartment, but I’m afraid that he sorely needs my company, even if he refuses it. Can you show me the way?”
“Absolutely!” he said, and he stuck out his hand as you stood up. You gave him a stern look, but dropped a few francs in his hand. Lord knows the boy needed it more than you did.
You followed him down the city street, passing through familiar shops and homes, before he finally stopped in front of a small building wedged between two much larger ones. “This is it!” he told you. “I deliver his letters here all the time.”
You ruffled his hair. “Thank you, Gavroche. Do you know if Eponine will be at the meeting next week.”
“That depends,” he said with a laugh. “Will Marius be there?” Before you could respond, he ran back in the direction you came, no doubt meaning to catch up with his friends.
You felt a twinge of pity for Eponine. Her unrequited love towards Marius had been tearing her to pieces, and you could hardly bear to watch her fall to shambles like this.
Take care of Enjolras first, you told yourself, then you can worry about Eponine.
Steeling yourself, you approached the door and gave it a sharp knock. You waited, but no response. Another sharp knock.
“Go away!” called a voice faintly.
No way in hell you were going to do that. Jiggling the handle slightly, you were pleased to find that it was unlocked. The door opened with a quiet creaking and you slipped inside.
You rounded the corner of the main entryway and what you saw made your heart sink. Enjolras was slumped over his desk, his hair a mess, his clothes crumpled, and the entire room in disarray. You stepped forward, and your shoe clinked against a glass left on the ground.
“Get out,” he muttered, sounding groggy.
You pressed forward, approaching him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Enjolras, it’s just me.”
He turned toward you, giving you an appraising look, but he quickly looked back down at his work. “I said get out.”
You raised an eyebrow. His words were slurred, and you could smell the sharp stench of alcohol on his breath. “Enjolras, have you been drinking?” You had barely known him to have a single drink, much less get drunk.
“It does not matter. Now, if you would leave me be, I have matters to attend to. Letters to write, rallies to plan.” He batted your hand away.
Not satisfied with his answer, you snatched the letter he was currently working on out from under him. “Dear Commander,” you began, reading his work aloud.
“Hear the the pleas the cries of the people who we need we need assistance. I beg your well wished and timely response.”
You tossed the letter back on the desk. “Enjolras, this is incomprehensible! You need to take a break. You need rest.”
He leaned back in his chair, placing one hand over his eyes. As the sunlight from the window illuminated the panes of his face, you noticed the thin layer of stubble that covered his usually clean-shaven visage. “There is no time for rest,” he told you. “Every day, Lamarque is nearer to drawing his final breath, and we are running out of time.”
You took his chin in your hand, guiding him to look up at you. “All your efforts will be for naught if you kill yourself in the process. Rest, Enjolras, please. You need sleep just as the rest of us do.”
“Fine,” he sighed, rubbing his eyes. “Fine. I will take a break.”
You kissed his forehead. “Good. Come on now.”
Seeing as there was no bedroom on the first floor, you guided him up to the second floor, and like you had all those weeks ago when he had turned up half frozen on your doorstep, you slowly undressed him, allowing him to feel your hands on his skin at every opportunity as you rid him of his dirty clothes and helped him into a pair of clean nightclothes. He was silent, and kept his eyes closed, but you could feel the tension in his body slowly melt away as you tended to him.
He laid in bed, and you sat on the edge beside him, using a damp washcloth to wipe the sheen of sweat from his face.
“Thank you, my love,” he said quietly as you finished up.
You brushed the side of his face gently with your hand. "I only wish that you would speak to me instead of working yourself to the bone."
"I'm sorry," he said, placing a gentle kiss on the palm of your hand. "You deserve much better than a man like me."
This gave you pause. "What is it then, that you think I deserve?"
"A lover whose focus is on you, not France. You deserve to be happy."
"What did you tell me, when I said nearly the same thing? You are not fighting for France alone, my love, I am fighting with you. Together, always. I am the happiest I have ever been."
You leaned in close, a teasing smile on your face. "Except, of course, when you choose to ignore me instead of telling me what's wrong." You planted a kiss on his lips, feeling his smile against your mouth.
"You're right," he whispered. "You're always right."
And with that, he wrapped one arm around your waist and pulled you down on the sheets next to him. "Please stay," he whispered.
"I wouldn't dream of leaving," you replied.
—--
Together you worked. Together you built a revolution, rushing to tie up as many loose ends as possible before the inevitable: Lamarque's death. Meetings were more frantic, rallies more crowded and more prone to intervention by law enforcement. But you stayed by his side and he stayed by yours.
You rushed through the square, glancing up at a nearby clocktower. Enjolras would be expecting you by now, but no matter, you would watch the rally from the crowds like everyone else did, rather than by his side as usual. You pushed to the front, muttering apologies to deaf ears, as no conversation was comprehensible in the massive crowd.
"Lamarque is the only one who stands for the common folk, the only one in our government who fights the wealthy elite in our name! But he is ill, and fading fast!" you heard Marius' voice ring above the crowd.
You pushed further forward and then there, up on the stage, you saw Enjolras. He looked almost angelic, the sun streaming through his hair, passion written on his features.
"How long do we suffer for their benefit before we take what's ours and cut the fat ones down to size?" your lover cried. "Join us in our rebellion! Join us at the barricades!"
Just then, the police burst in from the opposite side of the square, sending the crowd into a frenzy as they rushed to clear the area. The entire time, the students were shouting to the people to not give in, to meet again the following week in the same place for another rally.
You moved against the crowd struggling to stay upright. People were moving in every direction. Which direction was Lamarque’s home? Which was the police? The world was spinning and you had lost all sense of direction, until by some blessed luck, you ran into Marius. “Marius!” you cried, grabbing his arm. “Where is Enjolras?”
“He’s near, he’ll meet us back at the Musain.”
You followed him through the crowd, and soon the people thinned out, and you saw a flash of red ahead.
“Enjolras!” you cried, rushing forward to reach him. He turned quickly at the sound of your voice, and swept you into his arms as you came towards him, holding you tightly against his chest.
“Y/N,” he said into your hair, “I thought you had not made it to the rally today.”
“I was just late,” you replied, your voice shaking. “After the panic, I could not find you. I feared something had happened to you.”
He rubbed small circles onto your back. “It would take far more than a mob to get rid of me. From here on out, we will travel to rallies together. With tensions rising, it is far too dangerous to go on your own.”
You nodded against his chest, still gripping him tight.
“Come now,” he said, releasing you from his embrace, but grabbing on to your hand instead. “Let us go prepare for tonight’s meeting. We will have much to cover.”
—--
The students were gathered together now, and energy was crackling throughout the room. Throughout France, the people were beginning to rise in protest. Notre Dame, rue-du-Bac, everywhere, they were eager to stand and fight.
“The time to rebel is fast approaching, '' began Enjolras. “The people are stirring, rising up with us for the common good of France. I need you all to stay sharp.” He shot a pointed look at Grantaire, who was chugging from a bottle of wine. “The National Guard outmatches us by far. We need a sign that will unite the people, that will call them to arms.”
“Marius, wake up!” Joly shouted across the room. Marius looked dazed, completely indifferent to the meeting happening around him. “You look as if you’ve seen a ghost! What’s gotten into you today?”
“Some wine and say what’s going on?” Grantaire offered.
“A ghost,” Marius mused. “Yes, she was like a ghost. There one moment, gone the next.”
Grantaire laughed, the sound almost barking. “Marius has found himself a girl at long last! I am aghast! Never have I seen him in such a state. Why, it’s better than the opera!”
Your stomach dropped as you thought of Eponine. Did she know of Marius' mystery woman? By some stroke of luck, was it Eponine?
“Marius, now is not the time.” Enjolras said. “Is this what we must fight for now? The right to sit around and talk of women? The right to a night at the opera? This is real life men, not a game for a few young, rich, fools to play. We are coming out of a dark age, my brothers, but there is a red dawn at the end of this black night.”
“You should know how it feels, Enjolras,” Marius protested. “When you see Y/N, are you not struck to the bone in breathless delight? Does she not fill your vision with a burst of light each time you think of her?”
“Yeah, Enjolras,” you said playfully, nudging him slightly. “Do I not do that for you?”
He shot you a sharp look that said “Now is not the time to make light of the situation.”
“What I feel for Y/N is not relevant at the moment, and she knows that as well as I do. If your woman was here, helping with the rebellion, we would not be having this discussion. We all have a higher call now, a larger goal, one far more important than finding solace for our lonely souls. Feel how you must Marius, but you are no longer a child, and we need to be present at these meetings. Our little lives are nothing in comparison to the whole of France.”
“Hear, hear!” you cried, raising your glass at Enjolras’ words.
“Hear, hear!” the men echoed.
“Listen, everybody!” The group turned sharply toward the doorway, where Gavroche stood waiting. “General Lamarque is dead!”
You drew in a sharp breath. You knew it was coming, had known for a while now, but it was still jarring to hear the words aloud.
“Lamarque,” said Enjolras. “The people’s man, fallen at last. His death is the sign we have been awaiting.” He grew more confident as the plan solidified in his mind. “His funeral day will be soon, and there we will gather to honor his name. There will be a crowd there, a massive one, of the people who knew Lamarque to be the last truly good man in our government, and from their candles of grief we will kindle the flames of rebellion. The tomb of Lamarque shall lay the foundations for our barricade, for the freedom of all of France!”
He was met with cheers and jubilant shouting. You silently took his hand in yours, and he looked to you with more hope in his eyes than you had seen in months. “Tomorrow!” he yelled to his men. “Tomorrow we meet again and prepare here. Bring what ammunition and supplies you can find, we will need all you can get!”
The men trickled out, and as the uproar died down, Enjolras muttered to you, “You remember our night on the roof?”
You nodded.
“Could you take me there now?”
—--
You did as he asked, leading him up to the trapdoor in the ceiling that led to the roof, and soon the two of you were alone in the cool night air. As soon as the door was shut, Enjolras pulled you into a kiss, kissing you far more passionately than he had in a while. “We’re close,” he finally said. Another short kiss. “So close.”
You held him tight. “I’m proud of you, Enjolras. You’re changing the world."
"I could not have made it this far without you, ma chérie."
"Then into the new world we ride," you told him. "Together."
You couldn't place the look on his face. Hesitant, maybe?
"I have two things I must ask of you , my love."
"Anything," you replied.
He released you from his embrace and backed away a bit. He reached for something small in his pocket and then took a deep breath before kneeling.
"Y/N, since the day I met you, my world has been brighter, more hopeful. You occupy much of my thoughts, and to be apart from you is the worst fate I could imagine." His eyes, so often your only windows into what he was feeling, were shining with emotion. "You have already done so much for me, but would you do me the greatest honor of all and become my wife?"
Tears welled in your eyes, threatening to fall. All you could do at first was nod, for fear of bursting into sobs, but eventually you were able to croak a small, "Yes."
In an instant, Enjolras was on his feet, kissing your face over and over muttering "Thank you," and "I love you," over and over. He slipped a ring onto your finger, and you held your hand up to examine it. It was a simple band, nothing ornate, but it was the most beautiful thing you had ever seen.
"I will get you a nicer one someday soon," he told you. "I had not planned on doing this tonight, but after the rally this morning, when you clung to me in the streets, I knew that I couldn't wait another day to ask you."
"I don't want a more expensive one," you told him. "It would never mean as much as this does."
He held you close and rested his head against yours. His jaw was tense, almost as if he was in pain.
"Enjolras?" You asked, raising a hand to his face. "Are you alright?"
He inhaled sharply at your touch. "I'm afraid there is one more thing I must ask of you."
"What is it?" you asked, your eyes searching his.
"I need you to take your father and sister and leave the city."
Your blood ran cold. "What?"
"It's far too dangerous here. I cannot- I will not- be the reason you get hurt."
You stepped away from him, disbelief written over your features. "What happened to together Enjolras?" You held up your left hand, now adorned with a ring. "I made a promise to bind myself to you only moments ago, and now you ask me to break that promise?"
"Y/N-"
"No! I am sick of this, Enjolras. When I agreed to see you, you told me that this revolution was something we would fight together, and now you try and send me away!"
"Y/N, we are fighting together, but I need you to stay away from the actual battle. I could never live with myself if you were hurt."
"What about me? How do you expect me to sit by while you risk yourself? I will arrange for Papa and Marie to leave, but I will not abandon our cause in its hour of need. I will not abandon you."
He held your gaze, the stubborn look in his eye no doubt matching your own.
"Fine," he finally said gruffly. "But if you are going to stay, you have to follow orders, the same as the rest of my men. Regardless of what you think, I need to keep you safe."
"Of course," you nodded. "So long as you don't order me to leave."
"I won't."
You embraced him once more. "I love you, Enjolras."
"I love you too, ma chérie."
—--
Marie and your father were gone. There was some protest about you staying behind, but they saw the way you clung to Enjolras' hand, and had been watching the way you had thrown yourself into revolution work the past few months. They packed up what things they needed and left for an inn on the outskirts of Paris.
The next day was a blur. Preparing was busy work. You organized weaponry and ammunition, you helped deliver messages to other rebel groups across the city, and you kept Enjolras from losing his head.
One day more, and then you would be in the fight of your lives.
The students prepared late into the night, and eventually, there was simply no more that could be done. Most stayed the night, setting up a makeshift camp on the second floor of the Musain. You and Enjolras once again found yourselves on the roof, looking over the city at night, pondering the challenge that tomorrow would bring.
“Are you ready?” you asked him.
“As I’ll ever be.”
Silence once more. The comfortable silence took you back to all those months ago. The time that you had first met, and the walks that ensued. The time that you had spent together, simply enjoying one another’s presence.
“Y/N?”
“Yes?”
“Will you marry me?”
“Unless I’m remembering incorrectly, we’ve already had this conversation. Is the stress getting to you so much that you forget?”
“No,” he said. “Will you marry me tonight? Right now?”
You were taken aback. “Now? That’s a bit soon.”
“We may not have another chance,” he said grimly, and for a moment, the gravity of tomorrow weighed on your mind once more, but you quickly pushed it back. You were as prepared as you could be. You had to keep reminding yourself of that.
“Alright,” you said slowly. “Let’s get married then.”
—--
Soon, Les Amis de l’ABC were gathered in the upper room of the Musain, like so many times before. Unlike usual, however, you were there to celebrate a union, rather than plot the downfall of the monarchy.
Combeferre was chosen to officiate, as he was widely regarded as the second in command of Les Amis. You and Enjolras stood facing each other, hands clasped together.
“We are gathered here on this night to celebrate the union between two of our most core members,” Combeferre began. “Enjolras, you have bravely led us through all our trials, and continue to do so even now. Y/N, you have only been with us a short time, but in that period you have shown tenacity and passion in all that you do. I understand you each have something to say?”
You smiled up at your fiancé. His features were softer than they had been in a while, and his smile was more relaxed. He was less tense, like his stress had all but vanished, if only for a little while. “Enjolras,” you said, completely lost in his eyes, “I have no idea where I would be if not for you. Not only did you show me love, but you opened my eyes to a world beyond my own, and to the possibility of a better future. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing, because as long as I have you, I know that I will be alright. However tomorrow ends, I am grateful that we will be fighting for France hand in hand, as husband and wife.”
Enjolras took a deep breath, steeling himself for what was no doubt one of the biggest challenges he would have to face in the coming days: being emotionally vulnerable in front of his friends. “Y/N, I still cannot place what it was, but the first night you came into our meetings, you left your mark upon my very soul. I have thought of you every day since then, and I could not ask for a better woman to call my wife. You care for me when I don’t deserve it, and remind me again and again that I am stronger than the things holding me back. I love you more than I could ever articulate, and I will never be able to thank you enough for agreeing to marry me."
Combeferre nodded curtly. "Now-"
"Wait!" you said. "Gavroche, it's time."
The young boy dashed up to the front of the room and handed you something.
"Thank you, Gavroche," you said.
"Something for you, something for me?" he asked hopefully, earning a chuckle from yourself and many of the students gathered there.
"After we finish up here," you told him, ruffling his hair. He grinned up at you and ran back to his seat. Turning back to Enjolras, you noticed his look of confusion.
"I really wanted to exchange rings," you began, "so I raided my father's small jewelry collection. He's been saving it in case we ever fell on hard times, but I don’t think he would mind." You opened your hand to reveal your engagement ring and a similar band that you had found. "I think it belonged to my grandfather," you told him as you handed him your ring.
You took his left hand and gingerly slipped the ring onto his finger, and he mimicked your actions with your ring.
"Now," Combeferre started over when you had finished. "Enjolras, do you vow to take Y/N as your wife and cherish her through all times, bad and good, until the end of your days?"
"I do," he said, practicing glowing.
"Y/N, do you vow to take Enjolras as your husband and cherish him through all times, bad and good, until the end of your days?'
You nodded, trying to keep your voice from shaking. "I do."
Combeferre smiled. "Then I now pronounce you husband and wife. Enjolras, you may kiss the bride."
Enjolras’ lips were on yours in an instant, like he had been waiting for this moment the entire time. He dipped you down low, earning quite a few wolf whistles and cheers from the students.
He helped you back upright and there was a smattering of applause from your companions, as well as some very loud sobs from Grantaire.
"Would you be quiet?" Marius asked from next to him, nudging him slightly before snatching the nearly empty bottle of alcohol from his hand.
"I'm sorry" Grantaire half blubbered, half slurred. "Weddings make me emotional."
"So does liquor," Marius muttered.
"You're drunk, Grantaire," your husband said, arm around your waist. "Get to bed. In fact, all of you should get some sleep. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow."
The members of Les Amis de l'ABC filed out of the room, off to their respective sleeping spots, when you noticed a slip of a boy with his hat pulled down over his brow trying to leave out the back.
"One moment," you muttered to Enjolras, and you followed the figure out the door. "Eponine," you called after "him." "I know it's you."
She paused, then turned back towards you. "I'm sorry, Y/N. I wanted to be there, but I didn't want to face Marius."
You hugged her. "That's all right 'Ponine. I'm just glad you came. And I'm sorry to hear about Marius. What girl has got him acting like this anyhow?"
She shrugged. "Some rich girl named Cosette. I grew up with her, actually."
"You're far too good for him anyways," you told her. "Any man worth his salt would be lucky to have you."
She tried to smile, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Thank you, Y/N. I'll be alright on my own tonight. Go back to your husband."
You hesitated, not wanting to leave her when she so clearly needed a friend.
"Go," she said.
"Well if you're that eager to be rid of me…"
"Congratulations, Y/N," she said, and she was soon out of sight.
—--
You couldn't help but worry for her, but your mood brightened when you found Enjolras waiting for you.
"Come on," you told him. "Let's spend our first night as husband and wife together."
—--
The second the door to your room was shut, his mouth was on yours. You laughed a bit at his eagerness before surrendering yourself to the kiss.
He guided you backwards until the back of your legs hit your bed frame. "Do you trust me?" he asked breathlessly. You nodded.
He lifted you into his arms and laid you down on the bed. He leaned over you, his hair falling around his face like a curtain. "I love you, Y/N."
"I love you too, Enjolras."
That night was bliss like you had never felt it. Enjolras was gentle and rough and kind and passionate all at the same time. It seemed like you were there for an eternity. When you held you in his arms at the end of the night, you wished it truly had gone on forever.
“Please stay, Enjolras.”
“I wouldn’t dream of leaving.”
—--
The next morning, you woke to him standing at the foot of your bed, buttoning his red coat. A small grin cracked on his face when he saw you stir. “Good morning, chérie.”
You rubbed the sleep from your eyes, pushing yourself up to a sitting position. “You should have woken me when you got up.”
He bent over and placed a kiss on your brow. “You looked so peaceful, that I just couldn’t disturb you. Do you own a shirt and trousers?”
You nodded. “Somewhere around here.”
“Wear them today then. You may get a few stares at the funeral procession, but I would rather you be wearing something more practical for what follows.”
Groaning at your stiff muscles, you pushed yourself out of bed and began to rifle through the small trunk that held your clothes. You tossed what you needed onto your bed, and Enjolras picked them up.
"Allow me?"
You nodded, and your new husband helped you into the outfit, which was just baggy enough to hide any curves and make you look like a young boy.
"You've never looked so lovely," he said jokingly.
You rolled your eyes and grabbed your two cockades from the nightstand and handed one to him. He pinned it on your lapel, and you did the same for him.
"I love you, my beautiful wife.”
You grinned. “I love you too, my beautiful husband.”
—--
You stood at the front of the crowd, watching Lamarque’s funeral procession slowly parade down the street. You held Enjolras’ hand tightly in one hand, and Eponine’s in the other, although a bit more discreetly. You didn’t think she wanted anyone to know that she was there. Quietly, Les Amis started singing. It was a song you had heard many times before, but still gave you chills. You added your voice to the choir.
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again
The surrounding crowd looked around in confusion, but slowly, they started joining in.
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drum
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes
The voices crescendoed, and soon the vast majority of the people were singing.
Will you join in our crusade
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?
Enjolras gave your hand one last brief squeeze before jumping out into the middle of the procession, waving a bright red flag for all of Paris to see.
Then join in the fight that will give you the right to be free!
Following his lead, Les Amis ran for it, crowding the funeral procession, and a few bolder onlookers in the crowd did the same.
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men
Somewhere in the confusion, Eponine’s hand slipped from yours.
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again
You and Les Amis crowded the hearse, climbing up onto its sides as it continued down the street.
When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drum
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes
Enjolras joined Marius, standing on the top of the hearse. His voice rang out over the crowd.
Will you give all you can give so that our banner may advance?
He leaned over the side, offering a hand to you.
Some will fall and some will live
You took it, and he hoisted you up next to him.
Will you stand up and take your chance?
One arm was around your waist, steadying you and the other was grabbing the hilt of his red flag. You sang at the top of your lungs, and yet you could not hear your own voice over the crowd.
The blood of the martyrs will water the meadows of France!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again
The crowd was following the procession now, the swell of people moving down the streets of Paris.
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drum
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes
The procession came to a halt. Standing before you was the National Guard.
They threatened you, but you didn't think they would do it, not really. Until the shot rang off, and almost as if it was in slow motion, a woman in the crowd fell to the ground. The echoes of the shot rang in your ears as you looked on, stunned.
You looked toward Enjolras, whose features were grim, but determined. “To the barricade!” he cried.
The revolutionaries ran, moving like their life depended on it, which it did. You came to the little square where the Café Musain was and called to the people in the buildings to throw down whatever they could, which they did immediately, all too willing to aid in the downfall of the monarchy. You ran into the Musain, grabbing what chairs and tables you could to toss out onto the street.
You made swift work of the project, and foundations of the barricade were built, blocking you from the National Guard waiting on the other side.
“I need a volunteer!” your husband cried through the frenzy. “Someone who can find out their plan and when they will attack.”
A man that you did not recognize approached. “I will go,” he declared. “I was once a part of the guard, and I know their ways well. I will find out the truth.”
Enjolras nodded. “Thank you for stepping up, citizen.”
In the blink of an eye, the man was gone.
Ejolras dashed to the top of the barricade and planted his red flag there, a symbol of the revolution.
Soon night fell, and the buzzing of the day’s adrenaline was still taking hold. Everyone rushed about doing whatever they could.
“He’s back!” a voice cried, drawing your attention to the barricade.
“Listen friends, I have the information you seek!” the strange man called from outside the barricade. “I have counted their men and overheard their plans. They are strong, and it will be a dangerous fight.”
Enjolras gestured for him to come around the barricade. “Have faith. If you know their plans, we will find a way to overpower him. There is great strength in the people here.”
“You are safe for tonight,” said the man. “They wish to starve you out and weaken your forces before they attack in the morning.”
“Liar!” echoed a young voice. “Good evening, dear Inspector Javert!” It was Gavroche. “This man is no ally, he’s the law!”
Courfeyrac and Grantaire quickly grabbed him. “Throw him in the tavern,” Enjolras directed coldly. “We will let the people decide his fate.”
Javert’s face twisted in anger and he spat at Enjolras’ feet. “Kill me if you wish. You schoolboys know nothing of the world and the laws that bind it. I renounce your people’s court.”
They tried to pull him into the tavern, but he flung the two men off of him.
Enjolras rushed forward as the men struggled to restrain him. Javert rushed to the corner grabbing something-
“Enjolras, watch out!” you cried, as Javert swung a metal bar straight at his head. It missed narrowly. Enjolras wrestled the bar away from him, and swung it down hard, knocking the Inspector out cold.
Suddenly, you noticed the hairs on the back of your neck rising. You weren’t the only one who noticed something off, as the rest of the people gathered began looking around. Realization dawned in Enjolras’ eyes, and the men rushed out of the tavern, grabbing guns as they did.
“They’re coming!” someone yelled
You were in charge of reloading Enjolras’ musket, so you settled in behind him, on the ground below the barricade, as he took aim.
“Who’s there?” shouted the leader of the National Guard.
You clenched your jaw. The time was here.
“French Revolution!” your husband cried.
“Fire!” was the only response he got, soon followed by a volley of gunfire.
Shouting. There was so much shouting. The shouts soon grew louder, and you looked on in horror as you realized why.
They were climbing over the barricade.
You saw Marius grab a barrel of gunpowder and a torch before scurrying up the barricade.
What was he planning?
He reached the top nearly nose to nose with enemy soldiers. One raised his musket.
Oh God, you thought, Oh God, he doesn’t see.
Before you could cry out, before you could move, Eponine lept, seemingly from nowhere, in front of the musket, right as the shot rang out. Her body seemed to fall in slow motion, and you stood paralyzed. You hardly processed Marius’ threats to blow the barricade and the retreat of the National Guard as you ran to Eponine’s side. You took her hand in yours.
“Eponine!” you cried. “Eponine, please be all right.”
“Y/N?” Her voice was shaky.
“Yes, Eponine. Hold on, all right? We’ll get you a doctor.”
“I love you Y/N. You were the best friend I could have asked for.”
“I love you too, Eponine, but don’t talk like that, okay? We’re going to get you fixed up, don’t worry.”
She shook her head, but then you saw her eyes brighten. You turned over her shoulder to see what she was looking at. Marius stood looming over you. You backed away, knowing that she would want him by her side in her final moments.
He knelt down and held her, whispering to her, as her light slowly dimmed. The hot tears in your eyes mixed with the cold rain as your vision blurred.
You saw Gavroche, standing alone, the rain pouring down not masking the silent tears streaming from his eyes as he watched his sister bleed out. You approached him, and gently took his hand into yours. He squeezed so hard that it hurt, but you didn’t say a word.
Eponine went limp and her hand fell from Marius’ face. You stifled back a sob. As he passed you, Enjolras placed a hand on your shoulder, a silent reminder that he was there if you needed him. He and a few of the others gently lifted her body to take it out of the rain.
A while later, you were sitting quietly with Gavroche when Marius approached you. You tried to push down the swell of anger that came when you laid eyes on him. He, who had only noticed Eponine when she killed herself for him,
“Gavroche, can you do something for me?” he asked.
“Anything. Without you, I would have bitten the dust,” the young boy replied.
Marius handed Gavroche a letter and a few francs. “Deliver this for me, would you?”
No sooner had he spoken than Gavroche was off, leaving only you and Marius.
“Was that to Cosette?” Your voice was cold.
He nodded sheepishly, and your face twisted in anger.
“Eponine sacrificed herself for you! Took her own life so that you can live, and all you can think of is your wretched girlfriend? And now you have the gall to ask her brother to deliver your love letter? You didn’t even acknowledge her until she was dying in your arms!”
Enjolras dashed over, alerted by the yelling. “What’s the matter?”
“He doesn’t care,” you sobbed as he pulled you into his arms. “He doesn’t care that Eponine is dead. My best friend is dead.”
“I care,” Marius said quietly, the look on his face grave. “That I can promise you.”
He turned and left, leaving you and Enjolras alone.
You sank to your knees, no longer having the motivation to keep yourself upright, as the sobs racked out of you.
“She didn’t deserve this,” you muttered into his chest as he rubbed small circles on your back. “She didn’t deserve this.”
“No one does,” he said. “That’s why we fight. Why we must keep going, so that Eponine’s death is not in vain.”
You nodded, still sniffling slightly. “I know, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize,” he said, smoothing your hair. “Her death has shaken us all. Why don’t you go try and get some sleep? I’ll join you shortly, for a little while, but I have things that need to be taken care of.”
“I think I’d like to be alone, just for a bit,” you told him, “but I’ll sleep when you sleep.”
He kissed your brow. “That’s fair. Now go, and I’ll be there soon.”
—--
You had done as Enjolras had said, and you were sitting in your room, staring at your candle as it slowly burnt down. The tears had long since dried, and you were sure you must look a mess.
Bang!
Bang!Bang!
You jumped to your feet, startled as a series of gunshots went off. You raced downstairs, grabbed a musket, and prayed to God it was loaded. When you stormed into the square, armed and at the ready, the gunfire had died, and Enjolras was closing the tavern doors.
“Enjolras!” you cried, running to his side. “What happened?”
“Enemy marksmen from the roofs,” he said. “We took care of them. And there is another volunteer from the National Guard, but Gavroche has claimed he is trustworthy. He’s taking care of Javert as we speak.” As if to punctuate his sentence, a loud gunshot rang from behind the tavern. And thus ended Javert.
The men were relaxing, leaning against the barricade after a long and difficult day. Enjolras turned to address them. “Courfeyrac, you take the watch. The enemy may attack before light. Keep the faith, all. The people will rise, we are not alone.”
He took your hand, leading you along with him. He approached Marius, who was lost within his work, reinforcing the barricade. “Maruis,” he said, “rest.” Marius’ jaw tightened when he saw you, but he nodded curtly at Enjolras’ command.
Enjolras led you to an outcropping in front of one of the surrounding buildings, and leaned against the wall. The fatigue was evident on his face, but he drew you in and held you close as Grantaire began to sing an old drinking song.
Drink with me to days gone by
To the life that used to be
At the shrine of friendship, never say die
Let the wine of friendship never run dry
Here’s to you
And here’s to me
You could feel the soft rumble of Enjolras’ voice as he joined in. His soft voice was comforting, and you couldn't help but chuckle when he kissed your head as the rest of the men sang
Here’s to pretty girls who went to our heads
And to witty girls who went to our beds
You stayed like that for a while after the song was through, listening to his heartbeat. Despite his relaxed appearance, you could tell how stressed he truly was. He was scared.
“Go on up to bed now,” he told you. “You need to get some rest.”
“That’s the second time you’ve told me to do that,” you said. “Are you trying to get rid of me?”
“Never,” he said. “I just worry about you. And I have far too much to take care of to rest.”
You nearly laughed at that. If anyone should be worried it should be you. He was working himself to the bone, and at this rate, he wouldn’t even survive until the next attack.
“You need to sleep as much as I do,” you told him. “Come to my room with me, just for a few hours, and then we’ll take care of your stuff together, okay?”
He sighed. “You've swayed me, chérie Let’s go get some rest.”
—--
You woke a few hours later to an empty bed. You sighed loudly, but you shouldn’t have been surprised. At the foot of your bed layed Enjolras’ red coat and a note.
I’ve gone to see how the other barricades are faring. I know you would have wanted to come with me, but I promise I will be back soon. Keep my coat safe, chérie. I love you.
You scoffed, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to be upset at him. He wanted to keep you safe. You just wished he realized that you wanted to keep him safe as well.
You put on his coat, and were pleased to realize that it smelled like him. You met up with the rest of the men outside.
“Looking sharp,” Grantaire said with a wink, earning a gentle playful slap on the arm.
“How are things looking?” you asked Combeferre.
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “The rain has damaged our supply. We’re working to see what we still have, but it’s not looking good.”
A sudden whistle from the top of the barricade drew your attention, and your heart soared as you saw your husband climb over.
Before he could even crest the barricade, Marius ran over to him, “Enjolras, the rain damaged the gunpowder. We’re low on ammunition.”
“We’re the only barricade left,” Enjolras replied, but his eyes were trained on you as he spoke.
“What?”
“We’re the only ones left.” In a perfect demonstration of his inner character, Enjolras spoke to the crowd as he approached you, wrapping one arm around your waist in a silent greeting. France came first, but he would not forget you because of that. The look he gave you was a silent apology for leaving you alone.
“The people have not stirred,” he announced. “Those who still live in fear have abandoned us, so I will say this. All who wish to leave must do so now.”
The air was thick. Would they stay and risk losing their lives, or leave and risk losing their values?
The silence was broken by one little boy, singing a familiar tune.
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing the song of angry men?
The people around you joined Gavroche, with hushed tones at first, but then soon at full volume.
It is the music of the people who will not be slaves again
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start when tomorrow comes
Soon the troops were gathered again, their spirits reinvigorated, but the concern of ammunition was a big one. No one was sure how you were going to keep going on.
“Gavroche!” you heard someone whisper urgently, and looked up to see a few of Les Amis, leaning over the top of the barricade. Your stomach dropped and you climbed over the edge and looked over the side to find Gavroche, holding sacs of gunpowder and taunting enemy forces. A gunshot rang out, narrowly missing the boy.
“Gavroche!” you hissed. “Get back here!”
Your words fell on deaf ears as Gavroche looked up, grinned, and continued onward.
Courfeyrac yelled for him, trying to jump over the barricade, but he was held back. All you could do was watch in horror as one, two, gunshots struck Gavroche down. His lifeless body stared at the sky, his blank eyes devoid of all their usual mischief and playfulness.
Courfeyrac ran out to grab the body, bringing him back and laying him at the base of the barricades. His sobs hit you like a knife. How many more must die?
“Bring him to lay next to Eponine,” you said quietly, and someone, you didn’t see who, obliged.
“You at the barricades!” the leader of the National Guard shouted. “The people of Paris sleep in their beds. No one will come to help in your fight. You are on your own with no chance at all! Why throw your lives away?”
Enjolras took on a new air, ever the leader. “Damn their warnings!” he cried, “And damn their lies. Let us die facing our foes. We can still make them bleed.”
“They will pay for every man!” yelled Courfeyrac, still teary.
“Others will rise when we fall!” your husband shouted, his voice thick with passion. “One day the Earth will be free!”
He grabbed your hand as the men ran to arms, speaking now in a low voice. “You told me not to ask you this, but I must. Please go. This ends in prison or death for all of us if we stay.”
“I’m not leaving you, Enjolras,” you whispered.
He nodded and raised his gun. “To arms, then.”
“Cannons!” came the shout from the other side of the barricade. Your blood curdled, but you held fast. This was judgement day.
“Fire!” cried Enjolras, and a volley of gunshots rained on the National Guard. He tossed his musket down to you and you handed him the new one you were holding, prepped and ready, and began to make quick work of the old one.
Through the screams, the bloodshed, the falling bodies, you did what you were supposed to do. You tuned it out and changed the weaponry. But soon the guard advanced. The bodies were dropping from bayonets instead of muskets, and you were forced to retreat. Those who had previously been sympathetic closed their doors, shutting out the dying students in the streets.
“To the Musain!” you cried, and the straggling survivors followed. There were shouts to barricade the door, but it wouldn’t hold for long. Your group ran to the second floor
Enjolras grabbed your hand. “I know you don’t want this,” he said, speaking hurriedly, “But I don’t care. Go to the storage room on the kitchen and don’t come out, no matter what you hear. I love you.”
“Enjolras, I won’t-”
“Go! I love you!” He was moving away from you, towards the stairs, forcing himself to leave because he knew you wouldn’t leave him.
“I love you too!” you yelled after him, and ignoring the sinking pit in your stomach, did as he asked.
—--
You shut yourself in the tiny room and curled into a ball on the floor. You were surrounded by bottles of your father’s finest liquor and extra cleaning supplies.
You broke the skin on your hand when you bit it to keep from crying at the gunshots outside.
The footsteps and shouts of the National Guard retreated, and there was silence in the Café Musain once more.
You were alone once more.
Your eyes scanned the small room around you, an idea forming. An idea that you knew Enjolras would hate just as much as it would make him proud.
It’s either die here or rot in jail, you thought. There’s no getting out of here without the guards seeing me. May as well make all this effort worth my while.
You grabbed what you needed and threw the supplies in a small satchel. Placing a hand on the doorknob, you steeled yourself, and then stepped outside.
There was a thin haze in the air, most likely smoke from the barricade and musket fire. You slowly crept your way up to the second floor of the building, and stifled a gasp when you saw the bodies of your friends littered on the floor. Grantaire was slumped next to the window, and next to him-
You knew it was true, but you didn’t want to believe it. You slowly leaned over the edge of the windowsill, and felt a pang of horror as you saw Enjolras’ body hanging from it, waving his red banner proudly, even in death. You had no time to process it, before you heard a guardsman cry. “Up there! Someone’s still in the building!”
You sprinted away from the ceiling and up to the top floor. You pulled the trapdoor down and hoisted yourself onto the roof, then quickly scampered down the side of the building, two bottles of brandy clinking in your bag.
You rounded a corner, crouching at the edge of the barricade. You were hidden for now, but you knew that wouldn’t last long. Opening the bottles of alcohol, you stuffed a rag down the neck of each. You kissed the neck of one bottle. “For you, Les Amis de l’ABC.” You kissed the other. “For you, Eponine.” Bringing your hand to your lips, you kissed the band around your finger. “For you, Enjolras.”
With that, you lit each rag with a flint and steel, and raced to the top of the barricade.
“Vive la France!” you cried, so loud that it hurt your throat, and you hurled the two makeshift bombs towards the enemy’s cannons, right into the highest concentration of gunpowder.
If the explosion wasn’t enough to knock you off your feet, the responding volley of gunfire was, and you fell to the ground as the bullets tore through your body.
“Vive la France,” you whispered once more as the darkness enveloped you.
—--
You woke to sharp pain from your core and the sounds of a woman sobbing. You realized suddenly that you were being carried, and as you slowly opened your eyes, you recognized who it was.
“Marie,” you whispered, barely able to get the sound out. Your sister screamed and nearly dropped you.
“Y/N, you were dead!”
“Not yet Marie, but I’m dying. Where did they put Enjolras’ body?”
“You know, then,” she said grimly. “He is in the tavern. I’ll take you.”
“What you did was amazing,” she said as she walked. “Everyone’s talking about it. They’re calling you the Belle of the Barricade.”
You crinkled your nose. “I was never one for semantics.”
Marie laughed, but there was little joy in the sound. “You were very brave, Y/N. Your bravery won’t be forgotten. Why, I’ll tell every patron we have about my daring older sister who took on the National Guard single handedly in a final attack.” She was smiling, but tears were streaming down her face.
She laid you down on the floor next to your husband’s lifeless body. “Marie?” you said softly.
“Yes, Y/N?”
“We were married. The night before the funeral procession, we were married right in the Musain. I want you to know. And Papa.”
She nodded tearfully. “I’ll tell him.”
You raised one hand to Enjolras’ face, so rigid and smooth in death. “I told you, my love,” you whispered to him, “I wouldn’t dream of leaving.”
And with that, the strength ebbed from your body, and all went black a final time.
—--
Light, warm and pure surrounded you. Your eyes opened, and as your vision cleared, a face came into focus.
Enjolras, his face far more peaceful than you had ever seen it. The lines of his face had softened, and he looked for once like a school boy, not a hardened general.
“Enjolras?” you asked. Your brow furrowed. “Where are we?”
“Beyond the barricade,” he replied, offering you his hand.
You took it, and he pulled you towards him. The two of you went forward into the light, into the world you longed to see.
-----
Thanks for reading! I hope you liked it, because it was really fun to write.
Also sorry for the fade to black scene, I'm just not a fan of writing smut.
But I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this, and I hope I was able to do Enjolras justice.

CHAIN ON MY NECK | JJK
Tumblr media
The moment you turn your head around the money quickly came falling right in front of you making you smile in pleasure.
"Thank you" you said as you happily collected the money on the bed, the man just nod without looking at you while buttoning his clothes.
You stood up as well and pick up your belongings on the floor after the session with your costumer is done, while you're dressing up the man hug you from behind making you startled but not shocked cause you're used to it.
He always does that and after hugging you for sure he would try hard to convince you to be with him and yet you're right because.
"Come on Yn, why don't you just run away with me I can give you a better life" he said, you just sight and face him.
"And what be a boring housewife?" You chuckles "No thanks, I'm good here" as you're about to leave he grabbed your arms and gave you a red box, you look at him in confused.
"If ever you chance your mind always remember that I'll be here waiting for you" he left the room, leaving you behind.
"Damn he got a taste" you said as soon as you saw the big diamond ring shining right in front of your eyes, you close the box and put it on your bag as you also left the room.
It's exactly 1:34 am when your performance finishes and as soon as it's finished someone already reserved you so that he can table you and you know exactly who it is.
The bartender guide you to the VIP room but you got surprise when you saw a new face, you though the bartender bought you the wrong room so you stopped him.
"Excuse me, I think this isn't the right room" you said but he just shook his head and said it is the right room.
"This is the room, don't look for Mr. Kim he won't be here for 3 weeks that's what the manager says" you just slowly nod as you watches the bartender disappearing figure.
"Well at least I can have a time out from him" you said to yourself as you inhale and made a seductive smile and enter the room.
"Hi boys!!" You greeted the man's as they all look at you. "Oh look at that, she here" one of them says and walk towards you.
"Well pretty lady you're actually here not because we wanted you to make a private show but you're here to make our friend happy tonight" he said as he pointed the guy in a black suit.
You smirk while staring at him and says "I can handle that" you said with confidence making the group of friends laugh except from him.
"Okay okay, you can handle him now, it's all in your hand" the man said as they all get up and left leaving you two alone.
As soon as the door is lock you slowly made your way towards him and sat on his lap, wrapping your arms around his neck while he didn't bother to move or anything except he just keep on drink.
"So should we start the fun" you whispered on his ear trying hard to make your voice sexy that can make him go crazy over you, that method of yours always work on man's you've been doing with yet it seems like it won't work on him.
"I'm married" he said and continue drinking the alcohol in his hand "Oh I see" you grabbed the glass on his hand and drink it, putting the glass on the table and knee Infront of him while caressing his tights.
"But a man won't come here and asked for a stripper if he's enjoying and satisfied with his marriage right?" You said as you look into his eyes only to find both of those dark eyes already looking at you.
"I didn't asked for you, nor wanted to be here" he just stood up and about to left but you grabbed his hand and gave him your phone number.
"It's probably your first time so here's my number, just one call and I'll be right there" you wink at him while biting your lips, but instead he just rolled his eyes and left.
"Cute little loyal bunny" you sarcastically laugh and left the room.
You don't usually gave your number but as you found him cute and challenging you wanted to challenge yourself if you can have him warm the bed or not.
The man got home from the club and the moment he open the main door he directly goes to the bar section and grabe a bottle of wine and drink.
After drinking a couple minutes, the main door open reviling his wife, she saw him and made her way towards him.
"Hey hubby" she came and kiss him on the lips as the man pulled her closer to himself and started making the kiss hotter, after the hot kiss he also started kissing her on the neck but the wife pushes him.
"Babe you know you can't just leave marks on my neck just like that" she said as she keep her hand on her husband chest to keep the distance between the two.
"I can't see any problem with that, you're my wife" he said as he tried to pulled her again.
"Babe stop, we can't okay" she said irritatedly and left the man alone, he sight since he already expected that, Because his wife never allowed him to touch her except on their honeymoon since she always says that she wanted to keep her career going.
She's afraid to get pregnant because she's the most paid money on her generation, even though there's condom and pills she always says that they are not 100 percent sure that it will be safe so the safest option for her to not get pregnant is to not do it.
The man is frustrated, mad, angry, lonely, sad and horny and all he wanted right now is his wife yet she doesn't have time for her, not have time asking about his day and how did it going cause it's not totally good.
He grabbed his phone and contact someone, after ringing couple times the other line finally pick up "Hello there bunny how are you doing"
"So you've changed your mind huh" you smirk while looking at him, he just sight and keep on drinking, softly chuckles as you made your way towards him while sexily unzipping your dress and let it fall on the ground, sitting on his lap and asked.
"So how's your day handsome, tiring?" He looks at you and laugh "Funny how you're actually asking me about my day when my own wife never did and even refuse to make love to me"
"Wow what a shame then, cause if you're mine I'll always make sure that your bed is always warm" he stare at you while you did the same and the next thing you knew was that his lips is on yours and your are on his.
After making you cum several times it's your turn to make him cum now, you lay him down on the bed and started kissing him on his neck leaving tiny hickeys, your hand grabbed his cock and started pounding it back and forth making him gag, you keeps on doing it again and again till the moan left his mouth.
He cum right away, but you didn't finish there cause after he cum on your hand you quickly put his cock on your mouth and started giving him please, pounding in and out, sucking his tip then pound again, doin it over and over again till the hot liquid come straight through your throat and swallow.
After he cum you look at him and found him already looking at you, he wipe the cum on your chin and kissed you.
You started getting dressed as soon as the session is finished, after you dressed up you turn around only to find the man staring at you while his sitting on his chair, you walk towards him and kisses him.
"Tonight at exactly 10 pm I'm going home to you so you better be ready okay" he said as you giggles and nod your head.
It wasn't just a one nightstand cause after that night it continues till the scene made you exactly turning into his mistress and will you believe it that you're actually liking it.
You like the way he keeps you for himself that he even told your manger to not allowed you from getting reserve by someone else except him and he even pay millions just to make sure no one will touch you except from him. It's been 3 weeks since you and Jungkook started this and around that 13 weeks it's already been 21 days that both of you are doing it every night and who knows how many rounds you're doing it every single day.
Now you just don't know what to feel, are you starting to like him? Probably yes or maybe you just like the way you're not being fuck with anyone except from specific person but whatever that is you and Jungkook are happy at this moment.
It's 10 pm in the evening and you're on the couch exitedly wait for him to arrived, the door knock, you're about to open the door when you heard his name being mentioned on the tv screen.
It's a new about him and his wife being sweet while they're on a date in the most fancy restaurant, it hurts you to see them maybe because you've grown feelings for him. Your mood change so the atmosphere of the room.
You turn off the TV and was about to go upstairs to change when the door knock again, you made your way towards it and open only to see a man with blonde curly hair standing right in front of you with a flower in his hand, looking at him as you gulps and says.
"I'm accepting it tae, I'm accepting the marriage proposal"
Sitting on a long table with his family gathering all together, you hold tight on his hand and never wanted to let go, he looked at you and smiled as he whispered to your ear.
"Don't be nervous, they won't bite, but I will" you look at you as he slightly laugh. "Relax, I'm right here" he peck you on the lips as you take a deep breath.
But you're not nervous about meeting his family, you're nervous because of someone, that stare of someone. You gulp as you grab the glass of water on the table and drink it.
You're already confident but not you don't know why you're so nervous and couldn't even face everyone mostly him, the guy who's sitting Infront of you with his wife by his said.
Jeon Jungkook is looking right at you, didn't even dare to blink nor take his attention away from you, you don't know how come no body notices that he's been staring at you the whole time. Right now you just wanted the ground to open up and eat you alive.
You agree to marry taehyung so that you can finally move on and forget about him cause you knew to yourself that you've develop feelings for him but not the destiny is not on your side cause you just finds out that taehyung is actually jungkook's cousin.
Soon when everyone started making their way to the living room after the lovely dinner you walk to tae and excuse yourself to go to the bathroom.
You open the door and saw her, the lovely Mrs.jeon, she looks at you and smiled a little, she was fixing her lipstick using her finger when she come closer to you and said.
"You're far away from me, far away from what taehyung used to like" she said as she's about to walked passed at you but grabbed his arms.
"You're married aren't you?, How come you still likes to talk about your relationship with other man rather than being proud that you're married to a man named Jeon Jungkook, I'm sure a lot of girls are die just to have his last name" you said while raising you eyebrows.
She pushes your and away from her and look at you eye to eye "And are you one of those desperate woman?" She laughed that made your blood boil.
"Well maybe I am" you said with confidence. She lose the smile on her face and look at you deeply burning in anger "Keep dreaming" she said.
She dumped at you and tried to leave but your words stopped her "you're far from what your husband's type, you're far from me that he always beg to say with him and make his bed warm" you said and went inside the bathroom.
You hear her knock on the door nonstop but you didn't care, you did your job and leg her knock on the door till she stopped and left.
You're sitting on the car looking the window while taehyung is driving. Jungkook tried talking to you but you decided to ignore him. Your thoughts got interrupted when tae grabbed your hand and smile at you.
"Are you okay? Are you tired?" You look at him and removed his hand from your. "Stop the car"
Taehyung look at you confused "tae I said stop the car" you repeated. He clearly didn't know what happening or if he said something wrong that upset you.
"Why what's wrong baby, did I say something wrong?" He asked. You sigh and removed your seatbelt. "Just stop the car" and he did. He stopped the car.
"What's wrong bab-" he didn't even finish his words when out of nowhere you sudden started kissing him and sat on his lap.
Sucking his tongue, biting his lips traveling every inch and corner of his mouth while he's doing the same, you both share saliva and kissed each other till both of you are almost out of  breath. You broke the kiss and look at him.
"Damn, you scared me" he laughed while you chuckles. You unplug his belt and unbuttoned his pants, you grabbed his cock out of his boxer that made him moan.
Taehyung's hand travel down to your inner thighs and grabbed you pantie, you pull it aside as he lick his finger and slide it inside your wet hole.
He continue to come his finger faster and faster while you're stroking his cock the same speed as he's giving you.
The car is filled with your moan and his, the smell of sex and hot atmosphere cover the whole damn car, you both made each other cum at the same time.
You laugh after reaching you high. While both of you are breathing heavily, you look at tae and pulled him into a kiss, besides that you slowly pushed yourself down after putting his cock inside you.
You bite his bottom lips after feeling his whole cock inside you, you slowly move while tae is helping you. After a few seconds you started going faster so as he.
It's late at night when you suddenly woke up and didn't find you husband by your side. It's your wedding night and your husband isn't by your side.
You stand up and saw him staring at the window, you come and back hug him, but suddenly you realize something, you know that smell, that's not your husband but him.
"Jungkook" you called his name, he turn around and looked at you, you look at him in confused "what are you doing here?" You asked
"I just felt sad that it's your first night with your husband and yet he already left you for someone else wife" he said.
You look at him disbelief and slapped him "don't you dare compared him to you, he's different" how could he says horrible things to the man who all did was to treat you better and give you everything.
"You're the one who said that a man won't look for other woman attention if their wife is treating them better right, so I came to that club because the attention that should be given to me is given to him, now the decision is your" he said and left.
That's when you remember everything that you told Jungkook at the club when he said he's married ("But a man won't come here and asked for a stripper if he's enjoying and satisfied with his marriage right?") And he did because he's not satisfied with his marriage.
You run after Jungkook, you grabbed his arms "I need proof" you said, he pin you to the wall as he wrapped your legs around his waist.
"What the hell are you doing!" You tried to free yourself from his grip but he move his head and kisses you neck then he whispered.
"Go shout, ask for help" you're confused and yet you did, after shouting the door open Infront of you seeing the haft nked taehyung and jungkook's wife coming out at the same time on the same room.
You're shocked yet not new, people come to club for fun, and you won't be  shocked if taehyung was just having you by his side for fun.
"I'm done" you said. You pushed Jungkook aside and left, taehyung tried to catch up to you but all he got was a hard slap across his face.
After 2 years
As soon as you finish you performance someone already reserved you, it's not new as there's always someone who's reserving you even before you performance on the pole.
The bartender escort you to the VIP room, you open the door and say the man sitting on the couch, you raise your eye brows and sat on the mans lap.
"wanna have fun?" You asked the man   he didn't dare to answer and just continue drinking the alcohol in his hand.
"I'm married" he said, you smiles and
Whispered to his ear "But a man won't come here and asked for a stripper if he's enjoying and satisfied with his marriage right?" You chuckles.
"You should asked for my wife's permission first" the man look at you and smirk "Should I asked myself then?" He smiled as you both kissed each other.
"I hate this chain on your neck" he said, you couldn't do anything, you have a contract with the club owner that you have to finish and as soon as that contact is done that chain on your neck will be gone and you will be free.
"I don't care about that so much, I care about you, how come you're always the first one to reserve me?" He just laughed and hugged you.
"Come on I won't allow any man touch what's mine, okay." You smiled and kisses him.
"I love you yoongi"

Happy birthday Desmond. This is a little late, but I'm sure its still march 13 somewhere in the world. Anyways, I usually post a story for his birthday, and while there is one on fanfiction, I decided the tumblr one would be a little diffrent.
I'm using an old oc. Or the varient she could have been had she been born a guy and also never become a time travler. Red Jordan-Ryan. You can learn more about this character and the verse by checking out rk-ocs. For this story, that OC is Jasper Jordan-Ryan. They share a knack for meeting intresting people, and getting into situations and secrets they probably would be better off without. And determination.
This is a variontion of the future Clay saw for Desmond where he stayed at the Farm. So I decided, he teaches the kids as the assassin teacher.
Several things happen diffrently due to this deviation, and the Isu are trying to hijack the plot back onto the railroad by hijacking.
---
Not be at all
Not be at all, may have a sister story of sorts,  called not be Nobel  someday, from a quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson. If I ever write it, I mean.
---
In a world where Desmond did stay on the farm.
Des 1987- 25
Clay 1982- 30
Sometimes Desmond looks at the road leading out of the farm, and wonders what would have happened if he followed it.
Sometimes, when he was younger , he had dreamed of running away. He imagined what he would see beyond the farm, that he could be someone who didn't live in a conspiracy cult.
Maybe he would be president.
Nah, that was silly. He'd probably be a waiter or something, but at least he would be seeing the world.
It wasn't like training was all that bad. Sure he wasn't amazing at it,  though he had learned faster then most of the kids when he was younger. Maybe he could teach novices when he was older.
Mom might like that. It would allow her to go on more missions. He would have really missed mom, out there in the world. And really, leaving her alone with Dad was just mean.
So sure,  sometimes he dreamed of running away, but he was here to stay, and it wasn't a bad life.
---
It's strange sometimes, training the older ones, but with Clay it's different somehow. Clay has a very biting wit, and when it's not being used on him, the results are absolutely hilarious.
Clay is not going to be an assassinating type of assassin. He will probably end up working on the Animus, everyone seems to be interested in. Maybe he will be partners with the apparently expert Rebecca. Desmond has never met her, but apparently she is making good progress in creating one.
He doesn't really know though, because he is trying to stay well away from the internal politics.
Training people is fun. He gets to meet new people, and hear stories from all over. Some days it's almost as good as the thought of seeing new places.
And then there's this terrifying child, who appeared out of nowhere that one time.
"How the hell did you get in here!" Desmond had asked the blond child, who had just shown up one day, dressed as a novice, that he had never seen before in his life.
"I rode in the car."
"How old are you?" He asked suspiciously.
"Fifteen." The kid had said, glaring.
Desmond stared at the kid suspiciously.
"Fine, I am fourteen."
"I'll talk to you after the class."
Even if his parents' paranoia was right, and this was part of some convoluted Templar infiltration plot, a single Parkour lesson would probably not make a difference. He hoped. God, he should have searched them, first, what if the kid had a bomb or something!
Thankfully, everything went fine. After the class, Desmond had pulled the kid aside, and walked into an empty room. He started with the question that had been bugging him the most.
"Are you a boy or a girl, or what kid?"
The kid got really offended, and went  red. "My name is Jasper, and I am a boy! How the hell did you not notice that!" An accent tinged his words, and his voice broke a little.
Desmond laughed.
"Aww kiddo, it's just kind of ambiguous. "
Jasper growled, sounding alarmingly like a dog about to attack.
"Don't call me kiddo." He declared , glaring at Desmond.
Desmond began to laugh again, which seemed to infuriate the kid, and he growled again, which made Desmond laugh harder.
Finally , Desmond was able to contain his laughter, and get down to the important questions.
"Where did you come from, and why are you here?"
"I came from Bo-.... I'm from Quebec. I'm here because I followed the man."
"What man?"
"The man who killed R-" then he stopped again. "Who killed my godfather! "
"How did you follow him?"
"That's a secret. I'm just good at finding  people. No one wants me to be It ,in hide and seek!"
"Can I have his name, at least?"
"His name was a lie!" Jasper spat.
"You are a strange kid."
"I came here to either learn to either hire someone to kill him, or learn to do it myself. Then I might pay that robber who nearly killed me as a child a visit. "
"You are a terrifying child." Desmond informed him.
"My godfather was just killed. I want revenge."
"So you tracked his killer here?"
"Yes." The kid told him. "And given you are an assassin , I brought money to hire you to kill him."
"I don't kill fellow Assassins ,Kid."
Jasper did his dog growl again, and shouted "osti d'éparis de marde!" before running off.
He could not find him afterwards, no matter where he looked.
Later Desmond found out Thomas had been killed by a throwing knife.
He spent years afterwards, wondering if he was responsible for it, if it could have been prevented by pulling him out of that parkour class earlier.
"How the hell did I fail to find him?" He kept wondering.
That kid was damned terrifying.
He kept an eye out for him out of Paranoia, but 2011's February kicked off with Clay being kidnaped by Abstergo.
His father kept saying they had an in, that someone would get him out when it was time. It was a frequent argument they had, whenever Desmond and his father were alone.
Then in August, they got the news that Clay had gone crazy from the bleeding effect and killed himself.
Desmond went back home to mourn and be with his students.
A month later, his mother was kidnaped.
Desmond was determined not to leave another person in the hands of the Templars, particularly not one he loved. Screw whatever Fathers plans were!
His students were perfectly happy to help plan a rescue mission.
Besides, he'd always wanted to go to Italy.
---
The rescue mission hits an unexpected obstacle.
"SHE'S IN A COMA! "
Desmond screams at Lucy Stillman, his mothers... Keeper? Kidnapper? Guard? No, really, why the hell is she here.
"She tried to escape. She almost succeeded. It turns out Vidic really wasn't kidding. Lucy tells him distractedly ,looking upset and dazed. "The animus may be able to help her,  At least that's what Clay and William thought."
"Clays dead!" Desmond cried out, rubbing the tears off his face with his sweater. "Clays Dead, and my mother is in a coma, and it's all your fault. "
His face dryish, he signals Amalia and Rob that the cost is cleared.  Amalia guards the door, weapon ready, while Rob picks up his mother, and Desmond watches Lucy.
Lucy hums.
"You will need this, just give me a moment.
Desmond looks at Amalia, who shrugs, and holds her gun on Lucy, ready to shoot if she does something fishy.
Lucy comes back with a disk.
"It's the memory core Data. Get in contact with Rebeca,  and give this to her. Maybe it will help your mother."
She turns to leave, but hesitates. "I'm sorry Desmond." She says, before walking out of the room.
Desmond feels like he is about to break, but tells his students,  "lets go",  ordering David to look up Rebecca.
There are some injuries fighting their way out of Abstergo, but thankfully , no one is killed. Desmond is the worst. While his students are using the first aid kit , David drives them to a safe clinic.
While Desmond is being treated, a man named Shawn arrives, saying that Lucy called, and that he was here to bring his mother to Rebecca.
Desmond insisted on coming. So did Amalia. He told Rob and David to stay on standby, until he was safer.
Shawn grumbled under his breath, but sat and waited in the uncomfortable waiting room chair.
When they were finally done with him, Shawn helped carry his mother into his car, and drove them away.
-----
Rebecca and Shawn were good friends to each other, and alternated between being annoyingly kind and sympathetic to him,  which drove him a little nuts.
They were trying to help, and were getting information from his Mother's genetic memories, and keeping her alive, and stimulated in hopes she would wake up, but Desmond hated sympathy, and the sad kindness was almost worse.
Sometimes his Father visited , and when he wasn't looking down at Mother, he was arguing with Desmond.
It wasn't like it was new, Desmond and his father had always had something of a strained relationship, but... Mom would have hated this.
At least Amalia still treated him normally,  and dragged him out to spar when he looked close to snapping. Otherwise he might have lost it.
Eventually he just had his students come to Italy to train, partly to get some normal conversation. It wasn't that strange, Shawn still kept up with his work, and his father did too.
The next month went by in a strange limbo , and  out of nowhere in the middle of November, that terrifying  blond kid showed up at the gas station, growling at him.
"What the Hell are you doing here!" Desmond cried out, alarmed.
He was more confused than anything. And a bit suspicious. Perhaps dads Ideas about super convoluted Templar plots had more merit than he thought. He moved his arm, and poised for a hidden blade strike.
"I'm here to invite you to my birthday party." Jasper started sarcastically, tone dry as ice. He stopped at Desmond's glare. "Fine. I'm here to tell you to stop sending me bizarre and terrifying spam. "
What
"I don't even know your last name, let alone anything about you, beyond that you possibly committed premeditated murder at age 14. If I knew anything about you,  I would have given it to the police, not sent you 'Bizarre and terrifying spam.'How did you even find me?!"
Jasper seemed unfazed by that.
"A friend owed me a favor, and agreed to help me track down my spammer. All the evidence leads to you. So I came here to talk to you. "
There was a moment of silence, before he added.
"Also, I haven't murdered anyone. My aunt caught up to me, and told me that revenge was up to my Godmother. So we waited in the car, and left when my Godmother came back. "
"You were still willing to go far enough for revenge murder, to track him into a different country, from Quebec! How long were you following him!"
"This coming from the guy who trains Assassins. "
"I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You are a terrifying child. "
Jasper Growled, possibly at Desmond calling him a child, then his eyes began glowing white, and he began to shake.
"Nonononononoooooo!" Jasper cried, and fell over
"What the hell is happening!" Desmond shouted, grabbing at Jasper, before his head hit the concrete.
Suddenly Cortana appears. Well, not really, but there was something distinctly unreal about her. She looked almost transparent, and hard to make out, and suddenly all these images were shooting through his head. It was like walking into the last half an hour of a movie, and everything was completely out of context. He strained to hear anything he felt she was saying, but his ears were ringing, and felt like they were bleeding.
When he regained control of his senses, he realized they were in a plane, that Jasper was sitting in the pilot's seat, frozen in terror."
" Did you just kidnap me!" He demanded ,outraged.
"The voice in my head kept telling me the world would end, and that part of preventing it involved kidnapping you to go dig up something in a graveyard for her. "
"I'm already teaching my students in Italy to be with my mother while she is in a coma! I don't have time to go around desecrating graves with my kidnapper!" He shouted, not bothering to wipe away the tears.
Jasper turned to look at Desmond with a dead look on his face. "I don't know how to fly Jets." He said, calmly.
"What." Desmond said flatly, feeling a chill go down his back.
"I am not flying this jet." He turned back to face the window, and it occurred to Desmond that they were both screwed.
He walked over to Jasper and hugged him. Jasper stiffened, and awkwardly patted his back when he began to cry.
They sat there in their own world, until the Jet began to shake.
"I'd say it was nice knowing you, but I would be lying, because all of our encounters have been really bizarre."
He told Jasper, positive they were about to die. As last words went, they weren't too bad.
"Same to you, assassin teacher."
They huddled together on the floor together, as the shaking increased.
He didn't know how long they were down there, before the shaking finally stopped.
There was silence for a moment, before Desmond asked what they were both thinking.
"Are we somehow alive?"
"If this is dead, then I'm going to file a complaint."
"That seems so underwhelming."
"Yah" he mumbled,  going to open the door. Then his eyes lit up again, and he began to shake.
"DESMOND MILES! " Jasper shouted in a strange voice. "FOLLOW!"
Desmond followed the possessed Jasper, without a word. Frankly, some things are bonding experiences ,and huddling together on the floor of a possessed jet, waiting for the end, was probably one of them.
Finally, the possessed Jasper reached the spot he needed, commanded them to dig.
Jasper fell to the ground  twitching and stuttering. Much as Desmond wanted to help, he decided to dig, lest the ghost/Cortona thing come back to possess the poor kid again.
When Jasper finally seemed to come to, Desmond still hadn't found whatever the hell they were supposed to be looking for. Jasper suggested they widen the hole.
He got a rock, and began scraping the sides .
"I really wish we had a shovel." Desmond told Jasper.
"It can't be Too too deep. Right... There's probably a coffin under here."
"Lets hope."
---
As it turns out, digging holes on Connor Davenport's grave, in an old abandoned graveyard, leaves a lot of time for talking. Or awkward silence.
Desmond breaks it with a question.
"So, how did you get to the farm, all those years ago?"
Jasper turns to with a confused look, and mouths 'farm?'
"I don't know why it's called that. "
"Well, as I told you, I followed him.
I'm good at finding people."
"You tracked him down, and followed him onto the plane?"
"Yes"
"How did you avoid being seen?"
"I don't like to question it ,really. Takes all the fun out of it."
"Weren't your parents worried?"
"Why would my parents be worried?"
"Why wouldn't they?"
"Well my family probably is worried , but they've grown a tad resigned to my... Adventures I guess. My parents are probably working, and Mom probably hasn't even noticed yet. "
"Nothing about your Dad."
"He works on a submarine."
"And your mom."
"I don't know. Usually when she's home, she is busy. "
"I see. It reminds me a bit of my dad. We've had a strained relationship for, well, a long time now."
"And your mom?"
"I have a good relationship with my mom. But, she's been in a coma inside the animus for a while now, and I don't know if she's going to wake up. "
"I'm sorry about that. You must miss her."
"Yes."
Desmond didn't feel like talking anymore. Jasper didn't either, and it was kind of nice.
----
They knew they had definitely found whatever it was they were looking for, when Jasper  picked up a decent sized clump of dirt to break apart , and his eyes went white.
"IF YOU MOVE FAST AND GET THE APPLE, YOU MAY YET RESCUE YOUR FATHER WITH NO LOSSES OF LIFE." He shouted in the strange voice.
Then his eyes stopped glowing, and he collapsed.
"Jazz." Desmond tried shaking him "Jasper."
Honestly, he wasn't surprised at the collapse. They had been digging holes for hours, and who knew when the last time the kid had eaten was.
Desmond broke the clump, to find some sort of jewelry , and put it in his pocket.
He picked up Jasper, or tried to. For all he called him kid, Jasper was pretty tall, and well muscled. God this was going to be awkward.
He considered trying to fly the jet, but really did not want to be flying in a possessed vehicle ever again.
"God I hope you wake up soon." He pleaded to Jasper, before picking a direction, and walking .
----
Jasper did eventually wake up. He groggily told Desmond that whatever was possessing him, wanted Desmond to sacrifice himself to the sun gods to save the world and free her.
"What?"
" I think that translation works. It gets kind of hard to remember. Also the world is ending on my birthday."
"Happy birthday. "
"It's not tell December. December 21."
"Mine is on March 13."
"I'll be sure to buy you a present now, for when the world ends."
"Make it a survival kit. "
"And what are you getting me for mine."
"Is sacrificing myself to the sun gods to save the world not enough?"
"I would rather you come to my 16th birthday."
"Are we friends?"
"I think so. We've already had an  adventure, why not plan for more."
"Let's not have one like this again. "
"Or at least remember to bring food."
"We could try to catch something. I know how to clean fish at least. "
"That's not the same thing."
"It's something."
"Do we have any tools? Or will we have to throw rocks?"
"I have my hidden blade. And a few throwing knives."
"Can you hit anything with those?"
"Yes"
"I bet I can do better. Give me some."
"Arrogant"
"My cousin is a professional javelin thrower. We throw other things for the challenge too."
"Let's see you throw one then."
Desmond had to admit, he wasn't bad. But he was a teacher, and could think of many ways to improve Jasper's technique.
They were doing well in their track through the woods. Jasper's aim was improving, they had water and fish, and he was getting better at cleaning small animals with his hidden blade.
They were probably hopelessly lost, but it was better for morale If they focused on the positives. Like that their trap had caught a bunny.
Jasper was looking up at the sky, with a frown on his face.
"Tabarnak "
"What is it?" Desmond asked, but as he joined Jasper in looking at the sky , it was obvious. Early snow.
He looked at Jasper's black sweater, and down at his white one. Good for heavy weather, but not meant to be worn in snow. These sweaters would retain the water they soaked up, until they dried out.
"We're fucked" he announced to Jasper, who nodded.
---
"Would layers work?" He asked Jasper, who looked up confused.
"What layers?"
"Like if I gave you my sweater, would it keep yours dryish?"
Jasper frowned.
"Perhaps it might work for a little while, but Long term, everything would eventually soak through, I think. Besides, you would lose body heat when you gave it up, and it would feel colder when you put it back on. It would probably be smarter to keep the heat, and put up with the wetness."
"Got any ideas."
Jasper blushed hard.
"Sharing. But let's keep that as a last resort."
"Yah, I'm not into teenagers."
"I didn't mean it like that!"
Desmond laughed, as Jasper's face got redder and redder, the longer he laughed.
In reality, it wasn't too much of a stretch to go from huddling in fear on a jet, thinking they were going to die, to huddling together for warmth in the snow.
Eventually, salvation of sorts shows up when Jasper's eyes glow, and he grabs his hand and begins leading him  by the arm. Desmond's not sure how long they walked, long into the night, and the grey sky doesn't seem to get much lighter. His feet have gone numb, and he's walking on autopilot when Jasper drops, and Desmond looks up to see a gas station.
He doesn't have any cash on him, but thankfully he has his bank card and credit card.
He walks in, dragging Jasper behind him.
"I will pay you , if you give us a ride to the airport."
The lady at cash is staring at them bemused.
Oh right. They probably stink because the water got too cold to bathe in. And they hadn't had a change of clothes in ages. He's gotten nose blind to the smell, though he could tell it really bugged Jasper, though he never whines about it.
And they looked pretty gross.
How long had they been missing, anyways?
"Um, what day is it?"
"It's December the fifth."
"Oh. That was longer than we thought. " A lot longer than he thought.
Her eyebrows shoot up, and she looks on the verge of asking.
"Trust me. You really don't want to know how our day went. It was absolutely awful, and we were hopelessly lost. "
"I see a lot of strange things here.  Don't worry about it."
"I want to drink some Gatorade, and anything hot you have here. Then I'm going to go wash up in the bathroom."
"Tell you what, stay the night, take a shower, and I'll drive you to the airport in the morning."
"Thank you! No, really, thank you!"
Desmond could hug her. Well metaphorically. She probably wouldn't take one right now.
"No problem. Your friend there is... just sleeping, right.
"Yah, he's just pretty exhausted."
Hopefully.
----
Jasper woke up in the car, disoriented and speaking French. And although Desmond had picked up something from living with him for a few weeks in the middle of nowhere, he was speaking too fast for that to matter.
"Calm down Jasper. This nice girl named Marcy, is going to put us up  for the night, and give us a lift."
"Whaa-"
"Just think. Hot showers!"
"That sounds so nice right now."
"Doesn't it?"
"Mmm" Jasper agreed, then dozed off again.
The shower was heaven. So was the Meat pie she cooked for them, and fruit salad the next day.
Their clothes had been washed, they were clean, and fed, and even caffeinated. Desmond felt better than he had in a long time.
Desmond left her $300 for her generosity.
She gave him a kiss on the cheek, and slipped a paper into his pocket.
He wondered if in another life, he might have just stayed there. Kept Jasper, and Lived at Marcy's house, and settled into something domestic.
It was a nice thought. But he had other people in his life who needed him now. Students, and friends, and a possibly kidnapped Father to rescue. He was an assassin, and he was happy with that.
Jasper dosed on his shoulder on the plane, a far cry from the beginning where he had stiffened at Desmond so much as tapping him.
Desmond watched the clouds for a bit, and appreciated that this one had a living pilot, before joining his friend in sleep.
Amalia was keeping watch when they got back.
"Where did you go!" She demanded, sounding furious.
"Did you know we thought you had been kidnapped!"
"Well, you're not wrong. Only it wasn't by Templars, so much as... Well a ghost, I guess. Umm... It was way weirder than that actually. It wanted me to retrieve this." He held up the necklace, as If that would explain everything .
"Kidnapped by a ghost. Do you have any Idea how ridiculous that sounds! And who is that?" She pointed to Jasper.
"That's Jasper. Who is apparently able to be possessed by ghosts. He came here to find out why I was sending him... What was it you called it..."
"Bizarre and terrifying spam."
"Yah. Which made no sense, as I haven't been on my email in forever.
Next thing I know his eyes glowed, and we woke up on a jet, that no one was flying. We presume it was the Alien ghost lady, and thought we were going to die when it landed."
"I'm still not totally sure this isn't just your bizarre way of taking a vacation."
"Would I really do that?" Desmond asked, a bit hurt. "Also, If that was a vacation, then I never want another one for as long as I live. "
Amalia laughed at that.
"How is mom?" he asked, carefully.
Amalia got a weird look on her face.
"Well she is awake... But she isn't herself."
"Brain damage ?"
"Perhaps. But it seems that the personality of Altair is the one in charge. She only speaks Arabic now , to start with. So... Nope, nothing I could say would be funny or helpful in this context... I'm sorry Desmond."
'Mom' was incessantly interested now in finding the apple of Eden.
Which wasn't a bad thing, as it would apparently be needed to save his father sometime down the road... According to the ghost possessing Jasper, who also insisted things like the world was ending soon.
Even with all that going on, Desmond still trained his students, and even added Jasper to the group. Jasper seemed pretty confused about this, and still occasionally gave him 'why the hell are you doing this' looks, but for the most part, had gotten with the program.
Bizarrely enough ‘'Mom' had found an Apple of Eden in Italy , and had gone on a one woman rampage to free Father, despite the ransom call not even coming yet, and nobody even telling her he was missing or where he had last been seen.
"We have a theory for how we might put your mom back in the pilot seat."
Amalia told him one day.
"Really?"
"Well, the Animus explores genetic memories, right?"
"Yah..."
"So, it could be possible to let her explore her own memories?"
"That's... Not a bad theory. You would still have to get her back in the chair."
Apparently they took that as a challenge.  Mom was back in the chair.
Around the 18th , Jasper stormed in, eyes glowing again.
"MILES! EXPLAIN"
"I want my mother back."
"YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE IN AMERICA!"
"I am right where I am supposed to be."
Whatever was possessing Jasper, threw its hands up, and turned to his father.
"PERHAPS YOU WILL BE MORE COMPLIANT" it told him, before touching him, and causing him to twitch and spasm.
If that thing thought Desmond's father was more cooperative then him, it had another thing coming.
They left the cave, and Desmond realized he still had the jewelry they had gone grave digging for.
"I thought you were kidding." Amalia confessed, staring at him. "That was way creepier than you let on."
"I think we will need to catch up with them." He told her, holding up the necklace.
Finding a place you have never been to within four days was not a realistic task.
They were together in America when it started.
"Oh. Oh my god!" She cried out looking at the sky."
"Happy birthday Jasper." Desmond called out, before they left to find shelter.
---
They survived. A lot of former cities were dead silent now, but they were alive.
"What do we do?" Amalia asked, a dead look in her eye, as she looked at the remains of a car.
"We find survivors." Desmond began, feeling determined. "It doesn't matter whether they are Assassins, Civilians, or Templars now, what matters is that we are survivors."
Amalia looked at him. It was different then the looks she normally gave him as a teacher. This was the look of a follower to a leader.  Loyalty and trust, and would die for you.
"Yes. We will."
Together they began their search.

Lazily with any ship of your choice!
In that case, I'll finish this off with the ship that brought us together.
16. ...lazily
There was not a lot of downtime in the Apex. Most of the time Grace found herself wrangling the kids, or reeling in Simon. Of course, that was all fun, she wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t, but it was also, on some level, work. And that was why Grace was always more than happy to take advantage of any downtime that she did get, using it to lie around, to look at herself, or to generally do anything that amused her. What was the point of being in charge if you were always on the clock, after all. Simon was very different. The guy didn’t have a relaxed bone in his body. If he wasn’t actively leading a raid he was preparing a plan for one, or monologuing to whoever would listen about his book, or, on rare occasion, writing his book. The only even semi-relaxing thing he did was work on his figurines, but Grace didn’t count that either because that, too, was work. She remembered vaguely that Simon had always been antsy, had always needed to be doing something, but he did at least used to try and relax.
Now, and maybe it was because the Apex had expanded its control over so many people, Grace hardly saw him at all outside of their duties as leaders, and whenever she did, it wasn’t for relaxing purposes. But, what was the point of the two of them being in charge if they couldn’t hang out together, like they had back in the old days. Grace wasn’t sure, and so she decided to change that.  Considering they’d already had a successful raid and the kids were busying themselves, it seemed like a good time.
“Hello, Simon,” Grace said in a sing-song voice as she casually walked into his room and flopped down on his bed. Simon was sitting at his desk in there, seemingly writing something when she’d come in. He fixed his posture upon hearing her words, and Grace quietly tutted to herself that he couldn’t even bring himself to sit in a relaxed way.
“What’s up? Is something wrong?” Simon asked, and it honestly made Grace a little sad that he’d assume that was the reason she came to visit. Grace simply shook her head and gestured him over to the bed, where she was lounging. He, of course, followed without hesitation.
“You, need to relax.” she said and Simon bristled at the comment, probably about to launch into a speech about the importance of alertness and being prepared, which she shut down. “I’m serious. Lay down and relax. Just let yourself laze around, for a bit, the world isn’t going to end.” she assessed, and he muttered under his breath.
“It might.” he said before adding something. “And anyway, I hate being lazy, it just puts me on edge,” he explained as he followed her instructions and forced himself to lay down. Grace sat next to him on the bed and just watched as he tried to breathe casually, as he tried to let himself sink in to comfort. “How can you live like this?” he asked incredulously, and Grace let out a laugh, trilling her lips as she searched for an answer.
“Um, I don’t know, it feels nice?” she offered and Simon seemed to scoff at her assertion, disagreeing heavily.
“What about this feels nice? Just laying here doing nothing?” he questioned, and Grace stretched before slotting herself next to him, laying beside him to try and demonstrate the bountiful fun to be had by doing absolutely nothing. Simon turned beet red, a fact that she was deeply amused by, and Grace figured that if she was going to teach him to be less of a stick in the mud, she might as well have fun with it.
“Well,” Grace offered as she rolled over on her side to look at him. “I think being lazy is easy. It's comfortable, and warm, and soft,” she offered, speaking in that same sweet voice she knew always flustered him. She scooted closer to him, an impressive feat considering how little space there was on the bed, and gave him a casual a peck on the check. His stubble brushed against her face as she did so, and she couldn’t help but feel good at how much it seemed to floor him. “Kind of like that kiss. Do you get it now?” she questioned and Simon nodded robotically.
“Y-yeah. I get it.” he said, clearly embarrassed as Grace let out a little laugh and the two went back to laying next to each other in comfortable silence, letting their worries melt away into easy, lazy bliss.

I had hoped to have more energy today and to actually do something. But I still needed to recover. I was still so tired. It wasn't a bad day, but I was so sleepy.
I had a ton of trouble falling asleep, turning off my brain. I would be up until almost 3am reading in my phone. Which is very stupid but I was enjoying reading. Sweetp would come chatting into the room and would stand on both of us and was being real silly. James would move him and go and turn off the light. And that let me actually fall asleep.
I woke up at 930 as James was coming in to drop off the laundry they had done. Gave me kisses on my hand. And left to go get our car's oil changed.
I would get up and felt. Fine. Kind of empty. I would wash my face and brush my teeth and got dressed and felt. Bleh.
I thought I just needed food. I would have cereal. I put away the laundry James has done. And then just got back in bed.
I would play on my phone until around 1130. But then I fell asleep.
I woke up at 130 to James letting me know they were heading home. They had gone grocery shopping. And picked up a package. And soon they would be back with me.
They were so cute. They would make me peanut butter crackers and laid in bed with me.
We laid there for a long time just watching TikToks. Sweetp joined us. We were having excellent laying around time but then James got all energetic and full puppy dog energy asking if we could go for a walk. And I'm like, gesturing at me and Sweetp and were like this is kitty nap time?
But it was beautiful out and so I agreed to go for a walk with James. I would shake off my sleepies but I did not really enjoy the walk. I liked being outside but I would end up with 4 blisters on the tops of my feet and I was so bummed. It hurts so much. And I was a little to hot and was just not having fun. I started feeling a little nauseous. We didn't make it far. We got to the park and a few minutes in but then I was like I have to go home. So we went back. And I started feeling worse and worse.
I was happy when we found a free box. Got a brand new leather journal, a Jane Austin tarot deck, and two very cute bowls. I was hurting but I was enjoying being with James and very happy to find free things, even if James was teasing me.
We got home and James brought in the package they had picked up. And it was the Roomba Jess got for us!! I was so excited. I have wanted a Roomba for literally ever but I thought they were super expensive. And they aren't cheap but they were not as much as I expected. And I love her. We have named her Ruby. I glued bows to her. I also added googly eyes but I think they are to small so I'll probably replace them ASAP.
I was having a lot of fun getting her set up and watching her go around the house. She does get stuck over by the front door. But mainly she's doing great. She also got stuck under the rocking chair. And also keeps going outside?? And also she ate a necklace but neither of us recognize the necklace??? So strange.
I was enjoying having the backdoor open even if Ruby keeps going out there. Sweetp was enjoying it too. No rats today. Just him chatting and being silly rolling around.
James made us pasta for dinner. And I mostly just hung out on the couch. My feet hurt so much. The blisters only got worse. I am not positive what shoes I'll wear tomorrow. Maybe moccasins?? Maybe rain boots? We will see.
I had asked if I could not go to camp tomorrow because I am starting my events position at the museum. But Elizabeth said that there isn't anyone to cover. So I'm going to have another very very long day. I am looking forward to all the parts of it but I'm also frustrated how difficult it's going to be to vote. But I will do my best.
Now though the sun has gone down. And I am thinking I will take a bath. And try my best to just sleep and have a good day tomorrow.
Sleep well everyone. I hope you all have a great night. Until next time.

A/n: I've been working on this off and on for months. I hope this is good! I kinda had a brain rot at the end but I hope this is okay! I'll be opening requests again when I'm on Christmas break in December so feel free to go spam that lol. Enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Nadine was 16, they were on an island and she got a date. Not only was a boy taking his daughter out, but their date was on a Friday. That was cutting into their daddy and daughter time where they read the Sora comics. That was their Friday night thing!
"I forbid from going out on that date! You're too young to be dating!" Law yelled, walking behind her.
"So what?! You probably done worse things at my age than me!" Nadine argued back, turning around to face him.
Law had to think about that for a minute. "Yeah, well... I didn't have anyone to look after me Nadine." He quieted his voice down. "I want to take care of you. I don't trust you going out with any boys. I know what they're like, I was at that age before." He walked closer to his daughter. He put a hand on her shoulder.
Nadine glared at him before shrugging him off violently. "You never let me do anything for myself! You don't trust me!" she hollered at him. "That's not what I'm saying!". They began yelling again until Nadine had enough. She turned around and went to her room.
"Trafalgar D. Water Nadine! We are not done with this conversation!"
"Well I am Law!" She slammed the door in his face leaving him shocked.
"We don't slam doors in this sub young lady. Open the door this instant!" he demanded in a low voice after taking a deep breath.
"NO! You can't make me Law!" Nadine shouted from the inside of her room.
Penguin, Shachi, and Bepo were watching this all go down and they finally told him to calm down.
●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●
"I don't know what to do with her. I just don't know!" He ranted with a drink in his hand.
They were sitting around a fire. It was Bepo's idea to do camping again. It was fun for the crew. They tried to do it yearly. Because of the alliance with the Strawhats, they were camping with them.
"Law, she's sixteen, you can't keep babying her forever." Penguin stated, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Boys at that age... I don't trust them. Plus-"
"Law, she can't spend every Friday for the rest of her life reading comics with you. She's a teen, let her go out and learn." It was Bepo this time. Law was surprised as Bepo never tells Law what to do.
"I guess you're right." He sighed softly, looking down. His daughter wasn't little anymore.
He was at her bedroom door before he knew it. Knock, knock, knock. He knocked on her door. She answered, cocking an eyebrow annoyed at the sight of him.
"You can go." He said. He didn't know what to feel at this point. Mad, sad, happy?
"Are you kidding? This isn't a joke right?" Nadine asked trying not to give her hopes up.
Law shook his head and Nadine hugged him tightly. "Yes! Yes! I can go!"
"You better be back by eight pm though. I'll 'shambles' him if he's a minute late with you. No kissing, no sex, no touching of anything. It's okay to say 'no' too."
"Dad stop! Ew!"
●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●
Nadine was on the edge of her seat waiting for him. She couldn't wait! She was with everyone at the campfire. It was around six pm.
"Now you know the rules okay? First, no kissing. Second, three foot rule. Third, no touching of any kind. None of that. And he better have you back by eight." Law spouted to her.
"Dad-"
"Oh and also, here! If he starts touching you in a way you don't like you push this button." Law instructed her on how to use the taser.
"Stop. Okay, goodness and put that away."
Everyone was watching these interactions trying to stifle laughter. It was amusing to see Law care too much.
Finally, the date came. Law stood up to greet him, ignoring Nadine's protests.
"You must be the lucky guy." Law greeted coldly. He held out a hand.
The guy took it. "Lucky? I don't know. Definitely looks it." He smirked.
Nadine, being too naive, didn't get what he meant and took it positively while everyone else grimaced and glared.
"Have her back by eight or else." Law disregarded the comment.
"Sure, sure."
●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●
Fast forward to eight, Nadine walked back to where her dad was by herself. She was crying silently. Her dad was right. He was so right. Boys are stupid. Boys are gross.
And this boy tried doing something yucky to her.
She looked up and saw her dad and her crew and the Strawhats. She walked over keeping her head down.
Law picked up that someone was coming and turned to look. "Deenie! You're back!"
Nadine didn't say anything for a minute but then she whispered, "I'm sorry."
Law opened his arms.
"Dad, I'm too old to sit on your lap!" She exclaimed embarrassed.
"Are you kidding? You're never too old to sit on my lap!"
She sat on his lap and buried her head into his neck. "I'm sorry, you were right." Her voice cracked. "You were right about boys all along."
Law held her and rubbed circles on her back. "Yeah? He didn't even walk you here? They don't raise these boys to be gentlemen anymore, huh Peng?"
Penguin just shook his head as he saw his niece crying. The talking quieted down and Law was rubbing his daughter's back.
"What happened?" he asked her soft but sternly. He was so going to kill this boy once he found out what happened.
Nadine raised her glance to look at her father. "We were sitting down and eating. He took me to a nice place. That went well. But as we were walking there and while we were eating he would look at me but not at my face. You know? Then on the walk home he touched my a$$ and... I kicked him and ran away from him." she said disappointedly.
Law was very angry at this boy that took her out. But, he did like the part where she kicked him. Definitely like her mother.
Law chuckled at the end. "You take after your mother!" he quieted down after a little bit and looked down at his beautiful creation. "I'm proud of you. I'm sorry he wasn't the right one. But you'll find one soon enough."
Nadine wiped her tears, "Thanks dad."
They stayed in silence for a bit until Law looked down at her and said, "You look just like your mother. She was really beautiful, you know that?"
Nadine loved to hear stories of her mother. When she was little she constantly asked what she was like and for stories of her.
"Yeah, you told me. You said she was the love of your life."
"She was. Soon you'll find the love of your life too."
"I love you dad."
"And I love you."

Parenting? (1/1) (jegulus | marlily )
"Lily? LILY!" She was down stairs in the kitchen. She had come over for the regular Potter Sunday night dinner and of course everyone always wanted to be around the baby. She had stayed to help clean up a bit as James had got an emergency call to work. It was late but she didn't mind. She was just about to head out when she heard her name being called from up the stairs. Lily ran up quickly into Harry's room.
Regulus was panicking, sitting in the rocking chair, a 3 week old Harry swaddled perfectly in his arms, sleeping. "Regulus, what's wrong?" Lily asked. He was sweating and staring at the baby, eyes wide. He was too still and the rocker was not moving.
"He hasn't cried or woken up or stirred the whole time I've been up here. Something is wrong." Regulus' heart was hammering in his chest. He would never forgive himself if anything happened to this boy. He never knew he could love someone so much, more than James, more than anything.
"Oh Reg, nothings wrong." Lily's voice was soothing. She walked over and stood beside Regulus. "He's not making any noise because he is all taken care off. He's a happy boy. He is fed and warm and in his papa's arms. You're doing a good job." Lily had such a motherly instinct, Regulus wondered if that was just because she was also a parent or because she had spent years taking care of the marauders. He held Harry closer to his chest. "But what if he has a head injury? Or shaken baby syndrome? I knew Evan was being too rough with him." He was shaking his head, referring to the light bouncing Evan had been doing earlier in the evening that had made Harry smile.
"Reg where did you learn those terms? Those aren't magical illnesses?" Lily asked, amused.
"Mary gave me some books from when you two had Eva."
"You asked Mary for help?" She couldn't help hide the shock in her voice.
"Well if I was going to be a parent I needed to learn how to do it and she had books and I know books." He said matter-of-factly, a petulant expression forming on his face now. She sat down on the arm of the chair beside him and put an arm around him.
"Oh darling, Harry is clearly magic. We had to have those books because Eva might not have been." She smoothed his hair. "But anyway, Regulus you are a great father. And Harry is so loved. You could put him in his bed you know, might help if you could get some sleep too?"
It had taken a while, as it did for most of Regulus' friendships, but he trusted Lily and they were good friends now. Everyone was always surprised by how well they got along, but they had bonded over their mutual love for books, classical music, and ability to make fun of James. "No it's okay. James is so much better at this than me. I can't sleep without checking on him a million times. Last time he had to work at night I stared at Harry in his crib all night." Regulus shared. He was exhausted and rambling. "Give him to me," Lily spoke as she picked up Harry out of his arms, "and at least go have a shower yeah? I'll stay."
"Really? What about Mary and Eva?"
"Eva will already be in bed by now, and Mary is probably asleep on the couch." Lily chuckled softly thinking of her family at home.
"Okay, if you're sure." Regulus got up slowly and Lily took his place. He stared back at her and his sweet boy snuggled peacefully in her arms. He took one last glance before he backed out of the room, "Thank you Lil."

I'm actually curious about more than one of them, so I'll ask and you can choose one, or share a snippet or each, your choicr
1. Barril's because I've read the ch1 and I'm intrigued
2. Roy de-aged
3. Rebecca's fic
4. Marianne's gift
Thank you for asking! I'm more than happy to provide an answer for each of them. x)
Barril's
So yes, this is now called "Voices of the court" (named after a Hiroyuki Sawano song "Voices of the chord") and the first chapter was posted earlier this week. This is the same continuity as "The King's Counselor" and it's set almost a year after that fic. I don't want to give out too many plot details yet, but it is a bumpy ride for Roy and Riza. Here's a little excerpt from chapter 2:
Riza rolled the sleeves of her jacket and walked into the small kitchen. She occupied herself washing the dishes and throwing away some of Roy's spoiled food while she waited for him to finish showering. She was just putting some glasses inside the cabinets when Roy's larger hands pressed against hers, effectively stopping her from moving.
"You don't have to do that."
"You told me to make myself at home."
She couldn't see his face from that angle, but she could practically feel him glaring at the back of her head. He'd never liked when she cleaned after him. Not when he'd been her father's apprentice, and not now that they were sleeping together. He allowed it more at work, and even then that had taken her years of reminding him that taking care of him was part of her job.
She expected him to shush her away and take over the cleaning like he usually did. Instead, she was surprised by the weight of his chest against her back, and by the feel of his lips against the scar on her neck.
Roy de-aged
This is a very silly fic that started because of THIS tomochingus art and a conversation with Scienceoftheidiot. It's about Fuhrer Roy getting de-aged into academy Roy, and discovering all the wonderful and horrible things his future has for him.
The door suddenly opened, and a beautiful blonde lady entered the room. She looked at him and frowned. "What's the meaning of this, Havoc? Where is my hu–"
Roy squinted hard at her. There was something utterly familiar about her appearance. She looked just like… "Riza?"
Her breath hitched. She blinked and turned back to him with an increasingly fearful expression. "Roy?"
Wow.
What the hell.
Was that really little Riza Hawkeye?
Rebecca's fic
This one —also referred as the Hayate fic — is about Rebecca finding out Riza is sleeping with Roy thanks to Hayate. It's fun but also very angsty. This is almost complete and probably what I'm posting next.
"You're telling me that, all these years, you have been pinning after this dumbass and you hadn't jumped him?"
"It's complicated."
"Oh, I'm sure it is. Starting with the fact that you could get Court Martialed for it. But seriously, how stubborn can you be?" Rebecca sighed. "At least tell me you're getting a transfer request."
"No," Riza said immediately. For some reason she looked scared. "I can't. I– My duty comes first."
"Then what? You'll be the Mustang's dirty little secret until one of you retires? You can't seriously be okay with that, Riza. You deserve better than that."
Marianne's gift
I have posted about this one before. The code name is snow. This is about one of the East-Briggs training exercises going wrong and Riza getting injured. Roy is out of his mind with worry, and Lieutenant Ross is done with it all.
"I see an arm!" Sergeant Grey yelled. Roy was immediately running after him.
Please, let it be her.
He prayed with no small amount of guilt. He should be equally worried about all his men, but he'd never quite mastered how not to separate her from the rest. He needed her to be alright. He wasn't sure what he would do if she wasn't. She was his tether to sanity. The only thing keeping him from wandering off the right path.
Roy took a deep breath, and put his fear back inside the box at the bottom of his soul. He had no time for it right now. He had a role to play.

There's a Will; There's a Way (Book 4) Chapter One
Dazai Osamu x Fem! Reader
Chapter One: Emergency Government Request
Summary: The Armed Detective Agency is offered a new job, but several members have some misgivings.
Mouse Note: This will be spoilers for BSD Season 4! So be warned! Also, I am aware that I have already posted this fic, but I wanted to repost after Season 4 Part 1 appeared, so I'll be posting all my chapters that cover those episodes again. My other stories will continue as regular, this will just have daily updates to get the Bungou Stray Dogs fic some daylight.
“Really, I’m fine,” said Akira. “You can stop worrying, (Y/N).”
(Y/N) watched as her friend repolished the same glass for a fifth time. “Yeah…Sure.”
“I’m totally fine. I’m just restless since I haven’t had any fun work recently,” continued Akira. “I don’t think about Chu—him at all.”
            (Y/N) raised an eyebrow.
“Okay…maybe from time to time. But it’s no big deal. I’m doing fine,” said Akira.
“So you keep saying, but I still think you’re lying,” insisted (Y/N). Her eyes softened. “I’ve seen the hat. You kept it.”
Akira eyes fell to the ground. “I just…I just need to get back to work. That’s all.” She switched back to her usual attitude. “Speaking of which, I need to prepare for happy hour. Always get good business then.”
(Y/N) sighed. “Fine. But this isn’t over,” she warned.
“Just bring me any interesting work you get,” said Akira.
(Y/N) reluctantly stood up as her phone lit up with a message from Kunikida telling her to come to a meeting. “I will, but please…think about what you need. It’s okay to have feelings.”
            Akira just returned to polishing.
l
(Y/N) walked into the Agency and headed towards the meeting room.
“(Y/N)!” chirped Dazai, hugging her from behind. He pecked her on the cheek. “You’ve arrived!”
(Y/N) smiled and turned around in his arms so she was facing him. “You have a lot of energy,” she teased.
“I’m going out to have fun,” said Dazai.
“We have a meeting,” she reminded him.
“Bo-ring. And you’ll fill me in!” said Dazai.
            “If you listen,” said (Y/N).
“I always listen to you.” Dazai looked into her eyes adoringly.
(Y/N) blushed. “I-I’ve got to get to the meeting. Have fun skipping.”
            “Will do.”
Dazai leaned in and kissed her. (Y/N) closed her eyes and enjoyed the moment, even though a burdening feeling clenched her heart. Afterwards, Dazai squeezed her hand and began to walk away.
            “Dazai,” called (Y/N).
He turned back to her curiously.
“I love you.” She wasn’t sure why, but it felt important to say it then. That same heaviness she felt during the kiss was still there.
Dazai smiled. “I love you, too.” He said it with none of his usual pomp and circumstance. It was totally serious and full of emotions. With those words, he was out the door, reading to avoid another day of work.
(Y/N) walked into the meeting room and nodded to Kunikida in greeting as she sat down and opened the file in front of her. She was glad Kunikida was back. After the little girl died because of Fyodor’s manipulation, he had been held under suspicion of murder until all of the evidence showed he was innocent. It had worried the Agency for a bit, but luckily, it blew over. Additionally, they were concerned about (Y/N) being suspected, but because she was kidnapped, she was acquitted of suspicion.
(Y/N) focused on the file. It was on several murders that occurred in the last week, probably conducted by a group of individuals.
“A murder society?” asked Yosano, the first to speak.
“Yeah. It’s an emergency request from the government,” said Kunikida. “First, look at these photos of the victims.” He attached the photo of a man who had been skinned to the board.
            “Oh, god,” murmured (Y/N).
            “That’s terrible,” breathed Atsushi.
“He was a young Diet member from Yokohama. He left a session midway only yo be found five minutes later in this state,” explained Kunikida. “As you can see, his skin was removed from the waist up and then placed back on inside out. This skin was sewn together like a business shirt, complete with a tie and cuffs. Based on the throat lacerations and restraint marks, the victim was alive for the flaying…likely screaming his head off.”
“Talk about bad taste,” muttered Yosano.
“That’s horrible,” murmured (Y/N). “To be alive during something like that…”
“The perp has carried out four murders this week,” said Kunikida.
            “Four?!” cried Jun’ichiro.
(Y/N)’s eyes widened. She could hardly imagine how gory the other deaths must have been.
“The vice-commander of the coast guard had a corrosive poison poured over his head that melted his skins and bones. He died of shock from intense pain,” continued Kunikida. “The secretary of the government’s chief of international public safety had an air compressor hose inserted into his mouth, and the high-pressure air blasted the blood and nerves out of his pores. Finally, a top-level officer in the military police’s special-ability crime unit was injected with a painful south American plant called ‘suicide weed’ and left in a locked room. He scratched at his skin down to the bones and died from cerebral contusion after having bashed his head against the wall.”
            Definitely wasn’t picturing that…thought (Y/N).
“I see…so it’s a message from the Decay of the Angel,” said Ranpo.
The corners of (YN)’s mouth twitched into a frown at the word “angel.” After the ordeal with Fyodor, she couldn’t quite face it as she used to. Now, whenever (Y/N) heard it, she could hear him saying it.
“ ‘The Decay of the Angel?’ ” asked Atsushi.
“The ‘Decay of the Angel.’ It refers to the five signs of decline within the devas or beings who reside in the highest realm of existence,” explained Fukuzawa, appearing in the meeting room.
“President,” greeted the Agency members politely.
“Sign one, ‘soiled dress’—clothes that emit an oily filth. Sign two, a ‘wilted flower crown’—the fading a rotting of the wreath on the head. Sign three, ‘malodor’—an evil stench from the body. Sign four, ‘sudor’—sweating under the armpits,” explained Fukuzawa.
The young Diet member, the vice-commander of the coast guard, the secretary of the government’s chief of international public safety, and the office from the military police’s special-ability crime, respectively, thought (Y/N) as each sign was announced.
“So…all these flashy, bizarre crimes allude to that?” asked Jun’ichiro.
“Wait…if there are five signs, then—!” (Y/N) looked up in alarm.
            “Right,” said Kunikida.
“The fifth sign—the ‘wretched seat’— hasn’t occurred yet,” said Fukuzawa.
“Then the killer will strike one more time?!” cried Atsushi.
“They will not.” Fukuzawa looked at the detectives seriously. “Why? Because we are going to stop them. We must bind together as one to stop this heinous group’s plans.”
“I don’t think so,” said Ranpo grimly.
            “Ranpo…state your reason,” said Fukuzawa.
“My friend’s last words.” Ranpo could recall perfectly the foreboding prediction his friend had made. This was undoubtedly the large mission that would destroy them all. “I’m turning this job down.” Ranpo was deadly serious.
(Y/N) bit her lip. I trust Ranpo’s judgement. He sees what we cannot. But…I want to help people, no matter the cost to myself.
“Ranpo. Did you see the birch bow in my office? It’s a once-in-a-century honor for keepers of the peace,” said Fukuzawa, frowning at Ranpo’s words.
“So we have to take this because some guy gave us a bow?” Ranpo scoffed. “No. That bow…is merely a piece of wood.”
            His statement shocked his colleagues.
“To us, praise and rewards are a light drizzle. Even if we were underground thieves with no honor, we must stake our lives to prevent this murder,” declared Fukuzawa.
Ranpo slammed his fists down on the table as he stood. “Fine! Do whatever you want!” he yelled, turning on his heel and leaving the room.
Whatever he thinks is going to happen must be really terrible if he’s lashing out at the president, thought (Y/N). It certainly doesn’t bode well…
            “Ranpo!” exclaimed Kunikida.
“Leave him be, Kunikida,” said the silver-haired man. “The Agency will pursue the killer, and Ranpo will investigate the Agency’s potential destruction. Even Ranpo knows a two-pronged approach is best.”
Kunikida nodded. “We all need to start looking into possible targets and suspects in the killing.”
If solving this case efficiently can help the Agency, then I’ll work my hardest. (Y/N) was determined to succeed.
l
“All right. Call me when you have any information. Bye, Akira.” (Y/N) ended the phone call. Akira was excited to be getting some work. She’s still trying to distract herself…
“It must be nice to have a contact,” said Atsushi, walking alongside her. “Even if she can be kind of scary…” Atsushi sweat-dropped as he recalled the Mukurotoride incident.
(Y/N) chuckled at his reaction before taking out her phone again as it began to ring. “Hello?”
“It’s Ango from the Special Division. I can’t contact Dazai. Do you know where he is?”
“No, I don’t,” said (Y/N), frowning. I hope Dazai hasn’t gotten himself into trouble… She motioned for Atsushi to come closer so he could listen to. This was obviously important.
“Then tell this to everyone at the Agency—We have evidence that someone within the government altered the security details and work schedules of all the murder victims on the days they were killed,” said Ango grimly.
Atsushi and (Y/N)’s eyes widened in alarm.
“The killers are part of the government?” questioned (Y/N), furrowing her brow. This certainly makes things more complicated.
“That…or given the lack of leads despite our best efforts, the Decay of the Angel may be a front for some government group,” said Ango. “Either way, be careful.” He hung up.
Atsushi opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly a voice said, “Hello there!” An older man with glasses and a suit stood in front of them.
“You’re from the Ministry of Justice…” Atsushi recognized him from when Fukuzawa had received the birch bow.
“You two are members of the Agency, yes? You must be tired, working on a Sunday like this,” said the man. “How is the ‘Decay of the Angel’ investigation going?”
Something about his tone and smile put (Y/N) immediately on edge.
“We’re working through some—,” Atsushi started.
(Y/N) cut him off. “No leads so far, but I assure you we’re doing our best.” Best not to let any government official know anything we’re up to.
“Oh, what a shame. Who were you talking to?” asked the official.
“My boyfriend. He’s trying to surprise me with a gift I’d like, but he’s not being very sneaky about find out what I want,” said (Y/N) jokingly. “What are you doing out here in the city? Isn’t it dangerous right now?”
“Oh, I was just over there enjoying my coffee until I saw you.” He gestured to some tables outside a café. “I thought I’d ask about how the Agency was coming along.”
There is no coffee cup on any of the tables…He’s lying. (Y/N) kept a smile on her face but glanced over at Atsushi. She could see he was on edge as well but not hiding it as well as she did.
“What is it?” asked the official.
“He’s just concerned about the case, of course. The stress can get to us. Speaking of which, we should be getting back to work,” said (Y/N), grabbing Atsushi’s arm and steering him away quickly.
“(Y/N), he was lying!” whispered Atsushi urgently. “I smelled no coffee on him.”
“I know, we need to get back to the Agency. I have a bad feeling…” (Y/N) bit her lip and hurried onward. No matter how fast she was, however, she couldn’t escape the sinking feeling in her stomach. And she wouldn’t be able to escape what would happen next.

Rachel Zegler Imagine - you get hurt when she’s filming something far away (requested)
{This is my original work from my wattpad, gayforddlovato, please do not steal or take credit for my work!}
"Hey, Y/N. How are you feeling?" Your best friend asked as she walked into your hospital room.
"Not good." You said before closing your tired eyes.
Today, you and your friend had plans to hang out.
You were going to grab some food, do a little shopping, and just enjoy a fun girl's day.
But when you were on your way down the stairs to head out for the day, you ended up tripping over your shoes and tumbled down the steps.
You broke your leg and hit your head hard, causing a concussion.
"Well, don't worry too much because I'll be sure to take care of you whenever you get out of here." Your friend smiled.
"Thank you."
"No problem at all. That's what friends are for." She smiled. "So have you told Rachel about your injury and where you are currently?"
You shook your head, causing your friend to gasp in disbelief.
"You have to tell her!"
"I know, I know. But there's a time difference between us and she's probably filming right now." You said.
"So? She's your girlfriend, she needs to know."
You knew your friend was right; she almost always is, even though you hate admitting it.
"Tell you what. I'm going to let you call her and explain the situation while I go down to the cafeteria. Are you hungry or thirsty?"
"Not really. Thanks though." You replied.
She gave you a gentle hug before getting up and leaving the room, happy to give you some privacy while you call your girlfriend.
You reached for your phone that rested on the table beside your hospital bed.
You unlocked it before opening up your contacts and going to the contact you have set for Rachel.
You took a deep breath before tapping the call button and you pressed your phone against your ear as it rang.
It only took two rings before you heard Rachel's sweet voice in your ear.
"Hi, my love! Perfect timing, I just finished filming for the day. How are you doing?"
"Not so great." You said as you bit your lip nervously. "I fell down the stairs and I broke my leg-"
"What!? You broke your leg? Oh, my god, baby. Are you okay?"
"I wasn't finished. I also hit my head and I have a concussion as well."
"Okay, that's it, I'm coming home."
"No, don't do that, baby. You have to finish this movie. People are counting on you."
"I don't care about this movie right now. I only care about you!" She sighed. "I'm going to explain the situation and tell them I have to come home for a bit. They can either wait a bit or find someone else to play the part. No one's going to stop me from taking care of my girl."
You couldn't help but smile.
Your heart was filling with happiness and love; you just couldn't help but melt over how caring and loving she is and how she's always here for you, no matter what.
"Besides, I miss you. I'm so far away from you. We've been apart for four months now. I could use a little time with my beautiful girl."
"I miss you too... a lot." You spoke.
"Then it's settled. I'm coming home to take care of you and when you're better, perhaps you can come here with me while I finish filming. It's hard being away from you."
"Maybe. It does sound like a dream." You said as you thought about it a little.
"We can talk about that more in a while. For now, I just wanted to get home to you so I can care for you and nurture you back to health. I'll wait on you hand and foot, I'll take great care of you until you're all better."
"I'd like that, baby. Because even though my friend was going to care for me, I do miss you so much."
"I'm going to explain everything to everyone real quick and then I'll book a flight, grab my things, and head back. I'm going to be by your side soon, okay? I promise, baby girl."
You smiled brightly over the pet name and the thought of her finally being back by your side again so soon.
"Okay. I love you."
"I love you too. Rest well. I'll see you soon."
She ended the call right after she said that and you put your head back against the pillow with a sigh.
It was one of contentment as your heart fluttered.
You would never make or ask her to come back when she's filming but you know that nothing you say will stop her from doing so.
She loves you more than anything and is very adamant about being there for you whenever you need her, just as you feel for her.
A small smile tugged at your lips as you realized that you weren't too long away before you'd feel her lips back on yours and her arms wrapped around you.
You know she'll take great care of you and you just can't wait for her to return; she's the only comfort you'll ever need.

Mammon x Female Reader
*TW: bereavement hallucinations, grief hallucinations, or schizophrenia - having a hallucination and delusional.*
"Hey! MC, you should wake up! hurry!"
You woke up from your bed, as you saw Mammon standing beside you. "I apologize for waking up late."
"Ya should sleep early instead doing those shits! Hurry up!"
"For what?"
"Did ya forgot?!'
"Please low your voice, and I don't remember anything..."
"I told you we're going to hang out, and it's my treat. Did ya already forgot that?!"
"Okay, okay fine. Please wait me outside."
"Hm, okay!"
You stand up in your bed, fixing the mess you made last night. It was very tiring doing those tasks. You don't have any choice because Lucifer might be mad at you for not doing tasks. It was your responsible as an exchange student in RAD.
You wore the dress that Mammon gave you in Christmas last time. It really suits you, now you look so fabulous!
After organizing yourself, you went downstairs. Mammon were standing waiting for you.
"We're almost late! ya know?"
"I'm sorry..."
"That's fine, now let's go!"
He held your hands, walking around. He always treats you by buying things that you want. He doesn't care about wasting his money but he does care about you. He wants to make you happy as always. You finally realized that he is your boyfriend.
He really buy those things that will make you happy. This man really loves you.
"Mammon, you have abused too much buying the things I need. Aren't you concerned for yourself? for what you will need?"
"It doesn't matter, I at least give you everything you want and you need. I, the Great Mammon will make my princess happy."
You giggled as you he told you that. You can't imagine this demon is so much important for you. Sometimes you're worried that he might also need you. He already gave everything you want and your needs but what if he also need you? He just didn't tell you or he couldn't just expressed his feelings to you?
I mean that would be good if you ever ask him anything. He must've a problem or something?
"Mams?"
"Yes?"
"Are you even okay?"
"What did ya even asked that?!"
"I-I'm just concerned that you must having a problem that you just didn't tell me."
"I'm fine, MC. It's nothing really."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, I am!"
"Just tell me if you need something. I'll be always here for you."
He smiled at you, holding your hands.

Mammon's Point of View
It was very exhausting day! I can't wait to tell MC how much I love her. Yesterday, we hang out somewhere and she really appreciated the things I gave her.
I don't care about money anymore, MC is much very important to me. I love her more than anything besides Goldie. Sure, I have my baby Goldie but MC has always been there for me since the first day we've met.
It's just so crazy that we're just being friends into this? Yes, we're already in relationship.
I remember the night I confessed to her. It was very romancing moment.
I'm so lucky I'm her first, and her first boyfriend and especially I'm her first kiss. the Great Mammon is really the best!
I went to MC's room, but she weren't there. So, I went downstairs to ask my brothers.
"Lucifer! Did ya see MC?"
He just looked at me. "Hey, are ya deaf?- I mean did ya hear me?"
"Mammon, you are probably tired." Leviathan said as he's playing.
"What do you mean? yeah, I'm tired but I had so much fun last night. So I'm asking where's MC?"
Everyone looks at me, like they were confused. Are they joking me?
"Mammon, are you having hallucination?" Satan speaks.
"What? hallucination?! hah! the Great Mammon isn't like that. I'm not crazy, dude!"
"You're creepy, Mammon." Asmo said.
"Maybe, you are just hungry?" Beel said.
"Lucifer, we probably forgot to bring him to the therapist." Belphie said.
"What do you mean therapist?" I ask.
"Uh, Mammon can we talk here a little bit?" Lucifer started to speak. I look at him, is he sad or something? They must pranking me.
"So what is this, Lucifer? did you take away MC from me?!"
"It's not like that, Mammon. Listen, three years ago when MC had an accident in the human world, right? did you forgot that she already passed away? Probably, you were having a hallucination about MC. The trauma you had before still keeps hunting you. I'm sorry, Mammon but that's the truth."
"What are you talking about?! MC is with me last night, she even hugged me! kissed me everything! You must be kidding, Lucifer!"
"I'm not kidding, Mammon! I know you're still hurt by MC passing away but it's three years ago! for us? it's also hurt for us. She's been with us for a long time but we have no choice but to let her rest in peace somewhere else. Pardon me, but please forgot her. You're just hurting yourself."
"No, t-that's must be a joke! we hang out last night, she is with me! Guys, everyone please tell me. You guys are joking!"
"Mammon..."
"I'm sorry, Lucifer."
I left them behind, crying.
I must be dreaming? Please, MC tell me you're here beside me?

"Are you sure, Mammon?" Solomon ask.
"Yes, I wanted to visit her."
"Okay, come with me."
We went to the human world to visit her. I really thanked Solomon a lot for granting my wish to see her.
I missed her so much.
"Here we are, Mammon, please take care of yourself."
"Thank you very much, Solomon. I don't know how will I pay you for this?"
"It's no problem, Mammon, go visit her."
Before I go to that place, I should buy MC's favorite flower. She really love those.
"Hey, are ya good in there? I have a good news. I got passed from my latest exam. Aren't you happy? for sure, you are. I keep dreaming about you, probably it's just because I missed having you beside me. You told me that you're always be with me and I know that. Oh, here! this is your favourite flower you've been asking me before. I mustn't forgot that."
I gave her grave a kiss, smiling. "You know how much I missed you? Please, be happy for me? I wish I can be with you in Paradise." I didn't even felt my tears were dripping in my cheeks.
"Hey?"
When someone handing their handkerchief on me.
"Sir, are you crying?"
"E-eh?"
"You must be Mammon?"
"H-huh? how do you know?"
"I'm (your name), Diavolo said you were here."
She looks like MC, wait this is a dream, right?
"I'm the new exchange student in RAD. Diavolo ask me to find you and you're here! Nice to meet you!"
"M-MC?"
"Yes?"
"Are ya alive?"
"Oh, what do you mean?"
Please, is this real?
"Uh, Mammon, you good?"
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. What's up?"
Is this the END of the new BEGINNING?
