Page 1. ---- Negro Sentenced to Kingston for Holding up Stranger - Accomplice Freed. ---- Convicted of holding up and robbing James Lamb, whom he volunteered to show to a rooming house, Wallace Watson, a Negro, was sentenced to two years in Kingston penitentiary at hard labor. The case was heard by Judge J. O. Dromgole at a sitting of criminal court held at Sandwich, Saturday. James Lockman, who was convicted of being an accomplice of Watson's was allowed to go on suspended sentence, the court holding that Lockman was held in to the holdup by Watson.

According to Lamb, he met the men at the Walker house where they had a few drinks. Later on he inquired where he could find a rooming house and Watson said he would show him. When an old shed was reached in the rear of a wood yard, Lamb claims the men held him up and took all his money, which amounted to 32 cents. Watson has served time before for different offences and the court decided to give him a stiff sentence as a warning to others who might be inclined in the same channels.

[Watson was all of 19, born in Windsor, a 'common labourer' and he had already served a term in the Central Prison in Toronto. He was convict #F-703 at Kingston Penitentiary and worked in the quarry and stone cutters. He was reported twice, once in December 1914 and again in May 1915, for talking and inappropriate language, and lost 15 days remission. He was released in late fall 1915. His sentencing occasioned a mini-newspaper scandal when the Kingston Daily British Whig, repeating a Toronto press story and reporting on his arrival to the penitentiary, noted he had received 2 years whereas a man found guilty of a sexual assault against a minor was only fined. The Whig, remarkably, was insinuating a racial bias as well as 'illogical' hierarchy of sentencing. This forced the Windsor Record to defend this disparity in sentencing, pointing to technical differences and criminal records.]

Tim: so I forged my parents signature and signed myself out. Took a cab home and set trapps all throughout my house. Now that was fun but I wanted to whole experience so I hired two goons to break into my house.

Jason: what the fuck?

Tim: they didn't get permanently hurt, I wasn't cruel. I did give them payment and obviously I didn't want my parents knowing so I just let them go after. It's was fun

Steph: sounds like you.

Tim: hey, we should do that! We have better training and traps! It could be Family bonding!

Steph: YES!

Page 2. ----- Says George Haug, Awaiting Sentence; Long String of Convictions ----- Pleading guilty to a charge of stealing $66 in cash and a quantity of clothing from a fellow roomer, George Haug, Bay Street, was remanded to Saturday for sentence.

"I'm giving this man a chance to make reimbursement and thus shorten his sentence," Magistrate McEwen told Crown Attorney W. S. Maguire. "If he hands back the money he took, it will be much easier on him."

Prior to making this decision His Worship was of a mind to give Haug six months definite and three indefinite in Burwash. "I don't know if it's safe to let this man run around loose. He comes in here today fully deserving a penitentiary sentence," said His Worship.

Haug has a string of convictions stretching back to 1939 and was let out of penitentiary only last July. "What makes you go around stealing like this?" asked Crown Attorney

Maguire. "It's sort of an absence of the mind," accused replied. "I can resist if I try."

"I guess you don't try very hard," Maguire exclaimed.
