Tumblr media
You had no idea what to think.
You have finally returned from long journey to Snezhnaya, chill still present in your bones, longing for the warm embrace of your husband and his signature cup of tea spreading its heat across your hands. And yet, you weren’t as lucky as you thought.
House was a mess. It looked like every blanket, pillow or cloth was stripped away. Living room and kitchen were is disarray, tea leaves scattered across the floor, drawers opened and their components more or less out of place. It looked like someone broke in and tried to find something. And it had to be some specific object, since valuables and antiques were still there.
House was quiet, or at least it looked like it, but you heard some kind of rumbling coming from deep within. Has some wild beast broke inside to catch your husband off-guard? He still was an Archon of Liyue, only planning his retirement so far, so could it be some contestant for this position?
But that still didn’t make sense, unless the culprit knew that Zhongli is a god, which was unlikely. Yes, his mortal form did resembled statues and his godly form, but clothing and his own muting of his godly aura did the job pretty well. Still, you were married to a god nontheless, so this was in the “possible” category. Wouldn’t even be in the top three weirdest things that happened to you since your relationship with a deity.
Arming yourself with a sword your lover made for you, and carefully stepping down the corridor, the rumbling sound became louder. You felt as if everything was slightly vibrating, which was technically possible. Checking the bathroom and office room, there was nothing out of ordinary, except of moderate mess and lack of blankets. Did the burglar wanted to take only those?
Slowly opening the door to the bedroom, you were met with almost comical sight.
In the middle of ginarmous blanket pile laid your lover in all his draconic glory, barely fitting in the room. He was purring rather loudly, explaining the rumbling and vibrations. Wall of warmth hit your face and you had to do double take at the object that was in the center of this “nest”, guarded by your husband.
There, slightly covered, lied brown egg with golden and red markings on its surface. Some of them looking similar to geo and pyro symbols mixed together, slightly pulsing. It was size of an infant, with Zhongli’s snout carefully checking the surface temperature of it. It was so ridiculous, that you bursted out laughing and dropped the weapon.
His big head snapped in your direction, golden eyes observing you silently. There was slight confusion and embarrasment swimming along the molten gold.
“What… what is this, Zhongli?” you asked once you were able to speak again.
He huffed and lowered his head.
“I am sorry for the mess, dear. I just- I couldn’t-” his voice, now even deeper in this form, sounded so weak.
He sighed and tried to bury his head in the blankets below him, leaving you with comical sight of great Lord of Geo with only his snout covered while his ears, horns and furry neck remained visible.
“I just… what is this about? And why there is this giant egg?” you questioned, still slightly giggling. “Wait” realization suddenly hit you “did you lay an egg?!”
Dragon only groaned and tried to further to bury himself.
“No…”
“Then what is that? Did you steal it? Is it a prop of some sort for you to train whatever ritual is that?” you were more and more confused “...or is this a sign for me that you want to start a family…?”
After a moment of silence his head resurfaced once more and this time you were sure that if he was in his human form, it would be as red as tomato.
“I couldn’t leave it… I found it abandoned, in an empty nest. Parents and siblings had left long ago, but the little one was still alive. I was left as well, I just couldn’t leave it, I just-” his sad and quiet voice broke your heart.
You knew that his parents abandoned him as an egg and that he barely lived when he was a hatchling. He was bullied by other powerful creatures, who looked at him as a funny, squeaky toy. He also thought that he was last of his kind in Teyvat. Quilin-dragon hybrids weren’t rare before the Archon War, but after that only a few remained, and even less survived to the cataclysm. After that, he was only one left. Or so he suspected.
Deciding to leave laughing about this whole situation for later days, you looked at him lovingly and petted his scales.
“Can I join you two?”
Zhongli nodded and made some space for you to join on the pile. Carefully navigating through the blankets, you sat near his head, putting your hands in his fur.
“This is nice” you said, as he started purring again, warmth swallowing you whole in its embarce.

Get To Know Me
Cheers for the tag @straighttxhell!!
🖌 - Do you have/want any tattoos?
No but I really want one of a Les Fleurs de Mal quote, "We are all born marked for evil."
💚 - What’s your favourite colour?
Bluebell purple!
🍕 - What’s the last thing you ate?
Two slices of toast, one buttered, one with raspberry jam
🕰 - What time is it where you are rn?
10:31am. Tea time at work
🌟 - What is your zodiac sign?
Aries sun, Leo moon, Libra rising
🌍 - What is your favourite accent?
My best friend has such a cute glaswegian accent, I have the same accent but hers is a lot thicker and it's honestly adorable how she pronounces some words as a result. Also whatever the hell Christian Slater has going on. That man's voice is 🥺
⚡️ - Do you have any scars?
Sure, one on the back of my head from a game of Hallway Rugby gone wrong, one on my left pinkie toe from running into a radiator, several on my shoulders from various things, and I have burn calluses on all my fingertips from when I worked at the deli counter.
🌺 - What’s your MBTI type?
ESFP!
🥀 - Favourite animated movie?
How To Train Your Dragon!! It's just the best 🖤
📺 - Favourite show?
Right now, probably Criminal Minds. Or Daria.
😂 - Are you ticklish?
Very, to the point of distress :(
💍 - Do you ever want to get married?
Nah. I'm aspec and arospec.
😳 - Do you like your name?
Yeah it's a pretty nice name. Although people will insist on shortening it to my initials which I absolutely LOATHE.
💙 - What colour is your bedroom?
Midnight blue with gold stars! 🌟
🤓 - How did you get your name?
My parents were between two names and the one I got is a shade of red because when I was born I had very red lips. Still do, actually. People are often really surprised to find out that I usually wear clear lipgloss.
🎓 - When did/do you graduate?
June 2019!
🍄 - Do you have/want any piercings?
Yeah, two in my left earlobe, one in my right earlobe, and a nosering. I really want a few more ear piercings though.
👀 - What colour are your eyes?
Blue. They're less remarkable for their colour and more remarkable for the fact that they're so big I look like a cartoon character, helped along by my weirdly elastic facial expressions.
👱🏻‍♀️ - What is your go to hairstyle?
When it was long it used to be a half-ponytail, but now I usually wear it loose or pin it half-up with a butterfly clasp. No matter how I wear it though, I like it to have a ton of volume, somewhere between 1988 Veronica Sawyer and 1994 Rachel Greene.
🥂 - Have you ever drank underage?
Yes lol I turned up to my first day of Fifth Year (Junior Year/11th grade for Americans) so hungover I was still technically drunk. Drinking underage is pretty common here.
🍾 - Have you ever gotten drunk?
Do brown bears shit in the woods? Plenty of times lol. Although I'm much better behaved while drunk since graduating college. People think I'm a lightweight because it only takes a few drinks to get me behaving stupidly, but I'm generally just that much closer to behaving stupid.
😱 - What’s your biggest fear?
my recurring nightmare is being swallowed by a whale, but that's pretty unlikely to happen, so probably dogs.
🥵 - Would you rather be too hot or too cold?
Hot. You know how old injuries hurt in the cold? My elbows (missing muscle tissue on the left and damaged nerves on the right) hurt so bad in the cold I can barely move my arms.
🌦 - What’s your favourite weather?
Warm and sunny but not sweaty. Like the first proper day of spring.
🍂 - What’s your favourite season?
Autumn probably
🐷 - What’s your favourite animal?
Tie between bunny rabbits and whales! 🐇🐳
🐶 - Do you have any pets?
None any more, although I used to have a Dutch rabbit by the name of Rebel Bowie. I miss that boy.
😴 - What’s the longest you’ve ever gone without sleep?
22 hours I think. I like my kip.
🎨 - Any hobbies?
Writing, drawing, playing guitar and piano and ukulele, singing, dancing, going to the theatre... many lol.
🛩 - If travelling was free, where’s the first place you’d go?
Straight back to Gothenburg to visit the Malm Whale again!! Hopefully when it has its mouth open 🤩
🎇 - What’s your most searched thing on Google?
Right now, 1980s blue tiered skirt. I'm probably gonna wind up sewing one myself.
📱 - Favourite app on your phone?
Tumblr. Easily. Maybe Spotify or Google Docs as a close second.
🤠 - Are you more of a city person or a country person?
City. I like being within walking distance of the grocery store.

Miraculous Descendent Chapter 14: A Fencing Subject
Previous Chapter
The morning a few days after Nate had his conversation about fencing classes with his dad, Nate finds himself woken up by Jean-Yves holding a breakfast tray.
"What?" Nate groans.
"It is time to get up, Nathanial. You are going to be late for your classes." Jean-Yves tells him.
Nate reaches over to the bedside table where his phone is charging and glasses rest. He puts on his glasses and looks at the time on his phone.
"It's barely five o'clock," Nate mutters at Jean-Yves.
"Your teacher's class has irregular hours. It would seem." Jean-Yves tells him.
Nate groans into his pillow, already wishing he never agreed to this. After he does this, he drags himself out of bed. Jean-Yves sets the tray down on the bedside table.
"I'll be waiting down in the lobby for you. Your father wants me to take you to school since it's so early." Jean-Yves tells him.
"*Yawn* Sure, yeah, see you then." Nate tiredly says.
Jean-Yves leaves, and Nate lazily gets ready for the day.
He gets dressed in a grey short-sleeve, blue pants, sneakers, and a black hoodie jacket with two yellow lines down both sleeves.
After getting dressed, he eats his breakfast tray of an omelet and bacon. All the while thinking.
"How did they sign me up and get a schedule so quickly? If I knew waking up early morning was part of this deal, I'd of refused immediately. I hate mornings."
After his early morning breakfast and complaining session, Nate goes into his bathroom to finish getting ready for fencing and school. Once done, he grabs his backpack and meets Jean-Yves in the lobby. Jean-Yves was holding a yellow duffel bag that Nate assumes is full of his fencing equipment. Nate looks at the bag for a minute, then at Jean-Yves, then back at the bag.
"Dad knew I would say yes, so he signed me up beforehand, didn't he?" Nate asks Jean-Yves in a neutral but tired tone.
Jean-Yves says nothing and only smiles. Nate releases a long-suffering sigh and then mutters.
"Should have known. That explains why it was so quick to sign me up."
"Shall we get going, Nathanial?" Jean-Yves asks with a smile.
Nathanial yawns while nodding his head yes. The two then walk out the door toward the school.
"Is this going to be a common thing; where I have to wake up in the mornings?" Nate asks him tiredly.
"It'll depend on your teacher's schedule. Some days will be like this. While on other days, the lessons will be after school." Jean-Yves tells him.
"Great," Nate mutters sarcastically.
"None of that. You are a bit of a shut-in and don't hang out with many people. Your dad thinks this will be good for you. You can't hang out with your new cousin forever." Jean-Yves tells him.
"I'm pretty sure if he knew as much as I did about Marinette's situation, he wouldn't be saying that." Nate thinks to himself.
"This is a good opportunity for you to make more friends. You're talkative and a nice boy despite all appearances." Jean-Yves tells him.
"What do you mean despite all appearances? What's wrong with how I look?" Nate looks down at himself, wondering what's wrong with his outfit.
"Don't worry about it, Nathanial," Jean-Yves tells him with a smile.
"No, you can't just say that and then not continue, Jean. What is wrong with how I look?" Nate asks him with a glare.
Jean-Yves doesn't say anything else for the entirety of their walk to Nate's school. When they arrive at the open school gate, they see other kids already in fencing gear or just showing up for the lessons in the courtyard. Standing in the center of it all is Nate's teacher.
He was a man in his middle-to-late twenties with short dark brown hair combed to the sides, light skin, and light blue eyes, with a thin, curly mustache.
He was currently wearing a white fencing uniform with a black fencing guard over his torso with a dragon crest on the right side of his chest. Going down the sides of his uniform were red and blue lines. The man had his helmet under one arm and his rapier sword in his other hand.
"Well, I'll be going now, Nathanial. Good luck with your first lessons." Jean-Yves tells him before he puts the duffel bad down and heads back to the hotel.
Nate watches him go before sighing and picking up the duffel bag full of his stuff. He then heads toward the school locker room to get ready. When he enters the locker room, he immediately gets spotted by one of his classmates.
"Oh, hey, Nate." Adrien walks up to Nate in his fencing gear with a smile.
Nate blinks at him as his mind tries to process who's in front of him.
"You're here too, Adrien?" Nate asks as he finally registers who is talking to him.
"Yeah, father had me sign up along with school. I didn't expect to see anyone from my class here. That's so cool." Adrien says happily.
"I'm pretty sure papa signed me up before asking me if I was interested and planned to have me dragged out of the hotel this morning if I refused," Nate tells him bluntly.
Adrien didn't know what to say to that and awkwardly backed away while saying.
"Oh, well, at least he cares enough to try and get you outside and make friends."
Nate only nods and sets his bag on a bench. Once he opens it, he sees all his equipment and a piece of paper with a locker number and combination. Nate gets his gear on and puts the bag into his locker. Afterward, he heads out to the courtyard to join the class. There Nate sees people waiting around and chatting with fellow students. Adrien was looking around awkwardly, wondering if or who he should be near.
Nate and Adrien's teacher looked around the courtyard as if he was counting something before speaking.
"Alright, everyone, line up." The man orders.
The various students start to come together and line up for their teacher. Nate and Adrien were standing next to each other.
"I am your fencing instructor, Armand D'Argencourt. I am also the gym teacher at school for some of you here." The man tells his students in a serious tone.
"While under my tutelage, you will refer to me as Mr. D'Argencourt and can ask me questions if you are still confused even after my lesson on how to do something," Armand tells his students.
Some students were jittery, while others seemed to calm down, knowing they could ask for more help.
"Today, I would like to see everyone's skill level. So I can gauge where I should start with my teachings. In other words, I want you to all pick a partner and have a practice duel to show me how much of fencing you understand." The man explains before motioning with his hand.
"En-garde. Hurry and pick your partners and get in your position. School here may start at 8:30, but that doesn't mean I'll allow slacking off. A fencing match is quick and precise, so you must be the same." The man tells his students.
Students began partnering up with others in the class, and Adrien immediately looked at Nate.
"Do you wanna be partners?" He nervously asks Nate.
"Sure, better if it's someone in my main class than anyone else, I guess." Nate shrugs before they look for a spot in the courtyard to practice.
"So, have you ever done anything like this before?" Nate tries to make small talk while they walk.
"Uh, not really, unless you count video games," Adrien tells him with an embarrassed look.
"Okay, good, we're in the same boat then. Sports have never been my forte. So it's nice to know my partner hasn't done much in fencing." Nate tells him before they find a spot.
Nate walks further away and then turns around to face Adrien. They both put on their helmets and raise their sabers.
"Ready?" Nate asks.
Adrien nods, and Nate slowly moves toward Adrien with his saber aimed at Adrien's chest. After getting pretty close, Nate thrusts his blade toward Adrien to try and get the win. However, Adrien quickly reacts and uses his own sword to stop Nate from hitting him.
Nate tries to outpower Adrien and force his saber to Adrien's chest, but he can't seem to get past it. Suddenly, Adrien parries Nate's sword, surprising Nate, and stabs him in the chest.
"I think that's a point for me," Adrien happily tells him.
Nate lowers his saber and looks at his chest.
"Nice job. Also, you are stronger than you look. I couldn't seem to force my way through." Nate tells him.
"You think so. I guess I've been getting a lot of exercise lately. So my body's in good condition." Adrien tells him while rubbing the back of his head.
"Really? What do you do for exercise?" Nate asks him curiously.
Adrien freezes as he tries to come up with a good excuse.
"Come on, Adrien. Superhero 101, always keep your identity a secret." Adrien thought while looking at Nate through his helmet.
"Uhh, parkour," Adrien tells him nervously.
"Parkour?" Nate says to make sure he heard Adrien right.
"Yeah, I have such a big room with two different floors, a climbing wall, and even a skate ramp. So, I have plenty of things to practice on." Adrien tells him.
Nate looks at Adrien for a minute.
"I don't even know what to say about that. My family is rich, and I live in a big room too. But a climbing wall and skate ramp?" Nate finally says as he tries to register this information about Adrien.
"I also have a small arcade and my own library of DVDs, manga, and comics," Adrien says in embarrassment.
Nate doesn't say anything for another minute.
"Wow, I'm actually jealous right now." Nate calmly tells him, and Adrien gains a sad look.
"Yeah, father gets me plenty of gifts to make up for being too busy with work," Adrien tells him.
Nate now gives him a look of pity and walks over to him. He then pats him on the back.
"Sorry to hear that. My papa's been extremely busy, with this Hawkmoth guy scaring away customers. I barely get to see him anymore too." Nate tells him.
"It's fine. I get to go to school now and even made my first friend on the second day of school." Adrien tells him happily.
"Why does that sound so sad despite the smile?" Nate thought in his head as he stared at Adrien.
"You two, stop chatting and get back to practicing!" D'Argencourt orders Nate and Adrien.
"Welp, back to work." Nate sighs.
Nate and Adrien were walking into the locker room after practice had finished.
"I think we did decently for beginners," Nate tells Adrien.
"Do you think so? Mr. D'Argencourt didn't seem too impressed with us." Adrien tells him.
"Eh, we're just beginners. I'm sure it'll be fine." Nate shrugs.
Nate opens his locker and takes out his stuff before getting ready for the school day. He was now in his casual clothes again.
Adrien did the same and was now in a dark blue hoodie over a black short-sleeve, blue jeans, and his usual shoes.
Nate checks his phone to see that it's almost 7:30. He sighs when he sees this and looks at Adrien.
"Do you wanna get some breakfast or something?" He asks Adrien.
Adrien happily smiles when he hears this.
"Sure."
He and Adrien put their stuff in their designated lockers and left the locker room. When they do, they see Nino arriving at the school. Adrien runs up to Nino excitedly.
"Hey, Nino," Adrien says to him.
Nino looks surprised when he sees Adrien but smiles.
"Hey, dude. What are you doing here so early?" Nino asks him.
"I had fencing lessons this morning. What are you doing here right now?" Adrien asks in confusion.
"Parents had to go to work early, so they decided to drop me off early and took my little brother to his school," Nino explains to his friend.
Nate decides now is as good a time as any to walk up to the two to greet Nino.
"Hey, Nino, right?" Nate asks as he waves his hand a little while greeting Nino.
"Yep, what can I do for you, dude?" Nino asks in a relaxed tone.
"Nothing much. Adrien and I were planning to get breakfast. Wanna come?" Nate asks.
Nino grins when he hears this.
"Sure, dude. I'm starving."
Nate pulls out his phone and begins looking for places to eat that are open at this time. Luckily or unluckily, depending on your view, only one shop is currently running.
"Of course it is." Nate sighs.
"What's wrong, dude?" Nino asks.
Nate shows him his phone, and Nino groans.
"Are we really that hungry?" Nino asks.
"I am. I just got out of fencing practice." Nate states in a matter-of-fact tone.
Adrien looks at the two in confusion before asking.
"What's the matter?"
"The only place open is André's Boulangerie Patisserie. It's where Chloe lives." Nate explains with an annoyed sigh.
"Chloe?" Adrien asks in confusion.
"That girl that harassed you on your first day of school; remember. She's in our class next to Sabrina." Nino tells him.
Adrien makes a sound of realization as he understands who they're talking about now. When he does, he grows nervous and looks at Nate.
"Are you sure that's a good idea? She seems pretty mean." Adrien tells him in worry.
Nate waves him off and says.
"I don't care at this point. I'm starving. So, you two can wait here while I get the stuff, or we can all act like big kids and go." Nate states to the two of them.
Nino and Adrien look at each other before sighing and deciding to join Nate.
"Alright, dude. Hopefully, Mr. Bourgeois will keep her in check, or she's not awake when we get there." Nino sighs.
The trio walks out of the school and down the streets toward a white and black-colored bakery. There was a sign about the building that said André's Boulangerie Patisserie.
Nate is about to walk into the shop before Nino stops him.
"Uh, dude. Are you sure about this? It's not too late for us to leave." Nino nervously tells him.
"We literally walked over here to get something to eat." Nate flatly tells Nino with a bored look.
Nino raises his hands in defeat, and they enter the shop. It was a nice-looking bakery with display cases showing the various sweets they sold. It had white and yellow walls and a checkered floor.
The group walks to the counter, where they meet a man in his late thirties with tan skin, short grey hair balding at the front, and light blue eyes.
The man wore a white apron over a black short-sleeve shirt, brown pants, and black shoes.
When the group arrives at the counter, the man talks to them.
"Welcome to André's Boulangerie Patisserie. What can I get you three this morning?" The man kindly asks the trio.
The three boys look at the various displayed pastries.
"Could I get a couple of fruit and cream cheese breakfast pastries?" Nate asks with a smile.
"I'll take one of these muffins with a strawberry filling if that's okay, dude," Nino says as he stares at his dish.
Adrien looks uncertain about what he wants as he stares at the various displayed pastries. André sees this and smiles at the boy.
"If you can't decide on one, might I recommend getting our sample box? It's cheaper than getting multiple, and you get a choice of three different pastries to try." André tells the boy.
Adrien smiles when he hears this and nods.
"That sounds great. Then can I get what Nate and Nino are having and one of these bacon and egg breakfast pastries?" Adrien requests with a smile.
"Of course," André tells the boy as he grabs the threes' orders.
He gives Nate and Nino bags with their choices and gives Adrien a box with the store's name on it.
"Have a nice day, and let your friends know to come here if they're hungry," André tells the three with a smile as they leave.
Adrien waves goodbye when he hears this and also smiles. When they leave the store, Nate grabs one of his pastries out of the bag.
"Well, that went well," Nate tells them while eating his breakfast.
"Yeah, didn't see Chloe, and we have our breakfast." Nino nods.
"Kind of anti-climatic when you think about how nervous we were," Nate mutters.
Adrien didn't say anything. He was enjoying tasting these pastries he's never had before.
"This is so good," Adrien tells them happily as he eats the strawberry filling muffin.
"Yeah, he makes good pastries, it seems. I think these rival Marinette's mom's food." Nate nods.
The three end their morning routine by heading to the school again and waiting for school to start while eating their pastries.

Weird ~ G.W.
Summary: George is gorgeous. Charlie is a meddler. The snow is cold. (this summary sucks...just read it)
Pairing: George Weasley x Y/N
Word Count: 2,404 (who do I think I am?)
Warnings: mentions of bullying. mentions of food/eating. george is unknowingly triggering? reader cries. idk? let me know if i missed something.
A/N: part 2? maybe? translations are for romanian via google translate. do not come for me if they are hella wrong.
Translations: draga - darling; dragoste - love; tampit - stupid
I had never been normal. From the time I was a toddler I had stars in my eyes and dirt on my knees. While the other kids in my grade were playing with dolls and dressing respectably, I was riding imaginary dragons and wearing mismatched socks with dungarees and a butterfly headband. Normalcy evaded me even further when at 11 years old, I got a letter declaring me a witch.
When I first came to Hogwarts I spent the majority of my time alone. It appeared that even children who could wave a stick around and makes things fly wanted nothing to do with the colorful little girl. Meeting Luna Lovegood in my second year was the best thing that had ever happened to me. Here was a girl who allowed me to be exactly who I was with no judgments. And then she introduced me to Neville Longbottom and Ginny Weasley, and suddenly that little girl who thought her only friends would always be the rocks she painted faces on, had found her people.
Of course, being friends with Ginny Weasley meant knowing her many brothers. So after graduation when I went off to Romania to work with dragons it made me feel slightly better knowing Charlie Weasley would be there. He quickly took me under his wing and became the older brother figure I had never had. After working together for three years, and electing to stay at the sanctuary for the last two over the holidays, he had finally convinced me to come home with him. I was reluctant to leave the sanctuary - the one place I truly feel safe (despite the massive fire breathing creatures).
Charlie had warned me that being with one or two of the Weasleys was very different from being with the entire Weasley clan. Obviously I knew Charlie and Ginny, Ron had always been nice to me, and I had met Molly a handful of times in passing. However, Bill was known to be quite intimidating, Percy was supposedly very no-nonsense, and the twins (albeit never cruel) had a reputation of being hell-raisers.
Apparating to the edge of a marsh with Charlie by my side I could see the rising structure haphazardly balanced slightly ahead.
Pausing, I glanced at the back of the familiar red covered head, “I don’t know Charles, maybe I should just go back. I really don’t want to be a burden.”
Charlie very quickly rounded behind me to continue guiding me towards his home, “No, no, no, no, no. No. You’re not a burden to anyone draga. Keep your head up and if any of them give you grief - remind them of the giant, winged beasts you can feed them to.”
Quickly placing a kiss to the side of my head Charlie bounded ahead again to open the door and announce your arrival. Before I could toe off the first boot to leave next to the dozen other pairs in the entryway, a pair of arms had flung around my neck.
“Y/N! I missed you so much!”, Ginny pulled back, keeping her grip on my shoulders, to inspect for any major injuries.
I held onto her elbows, keeping her close, “Hi Gin, I missed you too. A lot. I’m loving this new look by the way.”
She reached up to brush the now short locks behind her ears. A grin on her face as the two of us looked the other over for the first time in months. Ginny was wrapped in a pretty baby pink sweater with shades of red and white running through it. The material was soft against my palm as I hooked it around her crooked elbow to follow her into the living area.
“You know”, she started, “I was starting to think maybe Charlie had let you get eaten or burnt to a crisp in the land of dragons. It’s been so long since you’ve come to see me or left the sanctuary.”
“I’m sorry Ginny. It’s just that after everything, I had to keep myself busy.”
Ginny’s smile softened into one of understanding. The war had taken a part of all of us. Although Fred had recovered after many months, that fear of almost losing such a vital part of their family had rocked the entire Weasley family to its core.
“I get it, I do, but I worry about you. I just want you to know you’re not alone Y/N.”
I pulled the girl into another tight hug, “I know.”
Ginny pulled away first, clearing her throat, “Okay! Now that’s out of the way - it’s time to introduce the one and only Y/N L/N to the Weasley’s.”
I hummed, “Hmmm and which of us should be more scared?”
     “Oh definitely the Weasleys.”
 ~~~~~~~~~~~
     Meeting the Weasley family had gone much better than expected.
     Molly had opened her arms and home to me as if I was one of her own children. By the time the night was over she had me stuffed full of warm food and drink and donning my very own coveted Weasley sweater, the lavender initial in the middle marking it as my own. Arthur had been very interested in my muggle parents and upbringing, questioning me about the functions of a rubber duck. Bill and his wife Fleur were the most stunning couple I have ever seen, and not nearly as intimidating as people portrayed them. Fleur was pleased when she found out I spoke a bit of conversational French and promised to have me over to Shell Cottage (apparently they have an amazing collection of wind chimes that I am dying to see). Percy was a bit more refined. Completely polite and friendly but he seemed reserved. Ginny had explained in one of her letters how much guilt Percy carried after the Battle of Hogwarts over how he had behaved in the years leading up to that day.
     The twins were much different than I remembered them being from the few times we were around each other in school. The physical differences were clear - George’s missing ear and Fred’s dragging limp were both signs of the prices they paid in the war. More than that however, they had matured greatly. They were still happy and made sure to pull at least two pranks over the night, poor Molly nearly lost her voice after they blew up the turkey. However, there was something in their eyes that had been dimmed. Especially in George.
     His twin almost died that night, and it reflected in George’s eyes each time he looked at his older brother. It was clear that he was still afraid because whenever Fred left a room George followed, never letting his brother out of his sight, and if he happened to lose track of him a panic began to swirl in his brown orbs.
     I was in the middle of watching as George yet again made his way to Fred’s side, clapping a large hand on his twins shoulder and throwing his head back in laughter.
     “So which one are you staring at dragoste?”, Charlie whispered as he appeared out of nowhere.
     I ignored the burning in my cheeks as I looked away from the scene in front of me.
     “I am not staring at either of them tampit.”
     “Mhmm, sure, absolutely, I believe you.”, after a quick pause he said, “It’s George isn’t it?”
     I turned and scoffed at him, “No!… How did you know?”
     Charlie let out a chuckle, “Because I know you my little dragon. I also know my brother, and just between us, he definitely likes you as well.”
     At this I let out an incredulous laugh and glanced back to where George was now telling a story, his hands moving animatedly. There was no way that George Weasley had even a remote attraction to me. He was kind, strong, clever, and so bloody gorgeous it truly was a privilege to look at him. And I am…me. Nothing special. Just a girl who had more dragon friends than human ones and whose hands were covered in scars and callouses and whose socks never matched and had never even kissed a man before. So no, there was no way that George Weasley would ever like me.
     “Hey. I know that look Y/N. Stop those thoughts right this bloody second.”
     “Charles it really is annoying when you read me like that.”
     Throwing his arm over my shoulder he began to lead me towards the twins, “Yes I know and I am sorry in advance but this needs to be done. Fred!”
     Charlie’s voice had gone from a rushed whisper to a jovial shout when we reached George, Fred, and Ron by the fireplace. George’s smile as he turned to look at us sent a million butterflies off in my tummy.
     “So Freddy, I was hoping you could help me out with a top secret project tomorrow for mum and maybe show me around the joke shop. I heard you added some new displays that I want to check out.”
     “Sure Charlie”, Fred glanced at George as he spoke, “I’m sure we can make some time for our favorite brother.”
     Ignoring Rons protest, Charlie gripped my shoulders and pushed me in front of him, “Actually George I was thinking you could stay here and show Y/N around the area. She mentioned wanting to talk a walk tomorrow and I would hate to disappoint her on her first Christmas out of the sanctuary.”
     “Um-”
     I interrupted the rejection coming from George, “No please, I would hate to be a bother and make you be stuck with me all day. I’m sure Ginny can take me.”
     George smiled and shook his head, “No it’s completely fine Y/N. I would be happy to show you around.”
     “Okay great! It’s settled then!”, Charlie looked rather too pleased with himself and obviously missed the look exchanged by his identical younger brothers.
~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning the Burrow was a flurry of movement as everyone began their day. Apparently Charlie and Fred weren’t the only ones on their way out. The others still had some last minute gift shopping to do and Ron was spending the day with Hermione’s muggle family. After breakfast, a quick wink from Charlie, and a slam of the front door - George and I were alone in the house.
The two of us stood facing one another in the living room for a few awkward moments before George spoke, “Well, um, did you want to head out as well?”
“Oh sure! Yes, let me just grab my boots really quickly.”
George led me out the door and onto the snow covered path towards the small, iced over river. Nothing was said for a while, the only sound was the crunch of snow under our boots and the occasional sniffle from one of our red noses. I was mentally imagining all the ways I was going to kick Charlie’s ass when he got back for suggesting a walk in the middle of winter when we came to the top of a hill and stopped.
Everything as far as the eye could see was blanketed in sheets of white. Stomping my boots down into the fresh snow, I couldn’t help the giggle that escaped as the snow gave way underfoot. Feeling a pair of eyes on me I remembered that I wasn’t alone and turned to see George watching me with an unidentifiable look on his face.
“Sorry, sorry. That was - I don’t know why I did that. I liked the feeling of the crunch of the snow I guess. Sorry.”
George grinned, “You don’t have to apologize. It was cute.”
I could feel my face flush at his words. His smile grew even wider at the sight of my heated face. My gaze dropped from his pretty face down to my boots. I could feel the thick socks I had on beginning to grow cold and wet from how long we’d been outside. Looking back up I could see George’s deep eyes glaze over. Assuming it was because he had been apart from Fred so long I glanced out at the view one last time before turning back the way we came.
“We should probably get back. We’ve been gone a while and my toes are getting wet. I feel bad enough that Charlie forced you to do this anyways without you getting frostbite or something. I’ve had frostbite, it’s not fun. And now I’m rambling. I’m sorry. Sorry”
George was shaking his head at me and said, “You are so weird.”
Ouch. My chest tightened and the small smile I had been wearing dropped from my face. If I had been able to see past the tears forming in my eyes that were making my sight blurry, I would have seen George’s face do the same. Unfortunately, all I could focus on was that word. Weird. Strange. Abnormal. Freak.
     Weird weird weird.
The walk back was silent. A thick tension surrounded you both as thick snow flurries began to swirl down in the midmorning air. Just as thick was the lump forming in my throat as I fought back tears. I know I shouldn’t let his words affect me. He’s just some guy. But deep down I also know that he’s not just some guy. This is George fricking Weasley. With his stupid perfect face and gorgeous eyes and his loyalty to his family. I couldn’t help but be enamored with him from the moment I walked in the Weasley’s front door. So it hurt to hear the man I liked call me that nasty word that has haunted me my entire life.
When we finally reached the Burrow, George tried to reach for my arm but I pulled away and ran into the house. I could hear that some of the others had returned and really wanted to avoid a confrontation. Once again, luck wasn’t on my side. Charlie came walking out of the kitchen and saw me in the entryway. His face immediately became concerned at the sight of me and he lowered the sandwich he had from his mouth.
“Draga?”, Charlie’s voice followed me as I finally reached the stairs and launched upstairs.
As I reached the first landing I heard him speak again, his voice rough and hard.
     “What did you do?”

From a very young age, Obito's grandmother had cautioned him to guard his heart.
"There is nothing more dangerous than an Uchiha in love," she warned him. "If you're not careful, caring too deeply will destroy you, drive you to madness."
For a five-year-old Obito, all it took to fall in love were three words, coming from a girl with sparkling brown eyes and the brightest smile he'd ever seen.
"Hey, nice goggles!"
~~
Obito, as a general rule, tried to avoid thinking too much about Hatake Kakashi. As far as he was concerned, stupid Bakashi already had too many people thinking about him. It felt like Obito couldn't go five minutes without hearing the whispers of "prodigy" and "genius" and "future-Hokage" trailing Kakashi everywhere he went (and what really stung was that they probably weren't wrong-- what Obito worked at for hours upon hours to accomplish, Kakashi managed in minutes without breaking a sweat).
Obito thought he'd been doing a pretty good job of ignoring Kakashi all things considered, despite the other boy's annoying attitude and annoying hair and annoying voice and annoying mask and annoying everything. He didn't even care (much) about Kakashi's annoyingly large number of fangirls-- up until he noticed that Rin had also started watching him.
He lasted three days before he confronted her about it.
"Why're you watching Kakashi?" Obito blurted out. He'd considered straight up asking her if she had a crush on him-- like half the girls in their class, he thought bitterly-- but had chickened out at the last moment. He wasn't sure what he'd do if the answer was yes--probably something that would land him in detention again.
"He's walking home alone again," Rin said quietly, gaze still fixated on Kakashi's departing figure. "It's been weeks now."
"So?" Obito asked. "He walks home by himself all the time."
Rin shook her head.
"Only when his father's on a mission. Which he might be, I don't know, but given what happened--" Her voice trailed off. Obito didn't need her to complete the sentence, anyway. Everyone in the village knew what had happened on Hatake Sakumo's disastrous mission.
"We're going to follow him," Rin decided. That got Obito's attention.
"What? Why?" He wasn't whining. He wasn't.
"Because something's not right here. And until we figure out what it is, I'd feel better watching over him to make sure he's safe." She glanced at him and grinned. "Besides, this will allow you to practice your stealth skills. And my Henge skills. Think I can make a convincing bush?"
~~
Through some miracle, because Rin did not make a convincing bush-- bushes didn't move for one thing, nor did they have legs-- they managed to follow Kakashi back to the Hatake Compound undetected. The moment the compound came into sight, Rin jolted, her henge dropping away completely.
"Oh," she whispered, eyes widening. Obito swallowed, feeling rather sick to the stomach himself.
The wall of the compound was completely covered by graffiti. Obito clenched his fists, mouth going dry-- there were words on there that would make Obito's grandmother scrub his mouth with soap if he even thought of saying them but worse than that were the words scattered between the cursing and insults:
Failure
Disgrace
Weak
Monster
Shameful
Your fault
Your fault
Your fault
"Obito." Rin's voice was strangely calm.
"Y-Yeah?" Obito cleared his throat, tearing his gaze away from the Hatake Compound. Kakashi didn't deserve that, he found himself thinking. His dad didn't deserve it either. No one deserved that.
Rin glanced at him, eyes hard.
"Do you think your grandmother would be okay with you sleeping over at my house tonight?"
Obito blinked, then slowly began to smile.
"I think I can convince her."
"Great." Rin folded her arms across her chest. "How are your painting skills?"
~~
Of all the things Sakumo expected to find outside his house in the middle of the night, two kids wearing badly-made face masks painting his wall was not one of them.
"What are you guys doing?" Kakashi demanded, looking like he wasn't sure whether to be angry or confused.
"What does it look like we're doing, Bakashi?" The kid in the orange eye-mask retorted. "Everyone calls you a genius, figure it out."
This night was getting weirder and weirder, Sakumo thought bemusedly to himself.
"You're...vandalizing my house. At two in the morning," Kakashi replied. It looked like the confusion was winning out over the anger.
"It's not vandalism if it's done with good intentions," the girl in the purple eye mask said primly. Sakumo resisted the urge to rub at his eyes.
"Friends of yours, Kakashi?" Sakumo asked, and received an immediate flurry of responses.
"No, I hardly even know them, they're just some kids from my class--"
"Friends with Bakashi? No way, I--"
"Not yet at least."
Sakumo let them talk over each other, gaze drifting back over to the half-completed paint job. They'd...done a surprisingly good job, actually. He could barely see the words underneath anymore.
He held up a hand, causing all three kids to go quiet.
"Why?" He asked finally, addressing the two kids who apparently weren't friends with Kakashi and yet had gone to the trouble to do all...this.
"Why not?" the boy said defiantly, jutting his chin up. "We felt like it and your wall is messed up, so we're painting it to look better."
The girl remained silent for a beat longer, before turning to look him in the eye.
"Because you deserve better," she said. Sakumo's mouth twisted.
"I'm not sure I do," he murmured, almost inaudibly. He blinked as the girl suddenly narrowed her eyes, brandishing her paintbrush at him like a kunai.
"Don't say that," she hissed, glaring fiercely at him "Don't you dare say that! The first thing they teach us in the Academy is that your teammates always, always come first. You acted according to that and the fact that people are treating you like a monster for it is wrong."
"It's not that simple--"
"It's not your fault that Konoha is on the brink of war,” she interrupted sharply. "If you didn't trigger it, someone else would have. You don't teach five year olds wartime tactics if you're not expecting...if you're not preparing for a war. People don't want to admit that, so they look for someone to blame-- but that's their problem, not yours."
She turned around, re-coating her brush with paint.
"I can't make you believe me, Hatake-san. But what I can do is cover up this wall of yours. At the very least, Kakashi-kun doesn't deserve to look at this every day."
At that, Kakashi straightened up, scowling at her. If his glare seemed rather halfhearted, no one pointed it out.
"I don't need you to do it, I can do it myself," he grumbled.
"Great," the girl said without missing a beat. "While you're here, you can settle a debate between me and Obito-- hypothetically speaking, would you prefer snakes painted on the wall or dragons?"
"C'mon Rin, dragons are so much cooler, what kind of person would prefer snakes--"
"Obito, neither of us can even draw a dragon and besides, they summon snakes--"
"What? No we don't! We summon dogs!"
"Oh. Really? But your dad is called the White Fang. That wasn't a reference to snake fangs?"
"No!"
"Huh. Who summons snakes then? Someone summons snakes."
"Forget the snakes, is there a dragon contract I can sign?"
"They'd take one look at you and eat you, dead last."
"Shut up, Bakashi!"
Sakumo felt his lips twitch. He turned around to walk back inside, feeling lighter than he had in weeks.
And to think, he'd been worried about Kakashi making friends.

wish you were here

Words: 6.4k
For @restlessmaknae 💕
Tumblr media
When your mother told you you got delivery to your childhood home, you certainly did not expect this: a brown box as big as a small watermelon with your old Canadian address and MARK LEE scrabbled next to your name as another recipient but no sender. Not to mention, the first stamp on the thing was dating back to the early 2010s. Where the hell was this package for 10 years? And what would you and your old neighbour slash best friend have gotten together?
Okay, first things first:
You and this clumsy, kind of cute kid, Mark had been quite tight while growing up. You were born in the same year, only a month apart, and his family lived in the house next to yours in the suburbs of Vancouver, so it was kind of natural. You two might have been against the world kind of comrades, playing hide and seek when you were six and wondering about whether time travelling was possible through black holes at twelve. But no matter how close you used to be, you fell out of touch when Mark's family moved to the other end of the world, back to Korea, their roots when you were fourteen. You slowly forgot about him, and started university in the city, moving away from home, so nothing really reminded you of him ⎼ and your stupid, big fat crush on him that you had no courage to tell him about in middle school ⎼, nothing until this box.
You put the delivered package on your kitchen table while you make some dinner for yourself out of what you have gotten during grocery shopping earlier just before you picked up the mysterious stuff at the post office. You eye it suspiciously over your pasta, really not wrapping your mind about what it could be but instead of annoying yourself with this pointless curiosity, you put your fork down and stand up to open it. It’s a struggle at first, the box being secured with multiple adhesive tapes over the years but when you finally get rid of all that and can look inside of it, an intense feeling rushes through you… immerse disappointment.
“A teapot? For real? What were we thinking?” you furrow your brows taking the small, green and pretty old teapot into your hands. It looks like a piece of a traditional Asian set with its jade colour and dragon pattern. It couldn’t have been in a much better shape 10 years ago either seeing how wayworn it is but still, you expected something more… exciting? Something funny that might or might not give you an excuse to look up Mark Lee on the internet and message him for the sake of old times. But how lame it would be to befriend him on Facebook only to tell him that you got delivered a teapot under both your names. Hah, you would rather not embarrass yourself like that.
You shoot one last glance at the teapot before leaving it on your counter and going back to your food, you successfully forget about the whole ordeal. You carry your life on with only one small difference: Mark Lee back on your mind after long, long years.
It was just a small crush, you tell yourself, sighing as you look into the mirror, absentmindedly wondering how he’s doing. Does he think of you sometimes as well? Did he go to music college like he has always wanted? Is he happy? You wish he was even if he’s half a world away and with that thought you think it’s time to go to sleep despite the upcoming weekend days. You don’t want to mess up your sleep schedule over some boy but as soon as you pull the blanket over your chest and close your eyes, something explodes in your kitchen.
You jump out of bed faster than lightning, in slight panic over the fact that your neighbours will hate you for bothering them late at night and your landlord would kill you if you managed to blow up your microwave. But the sight that welcomes you is like no other that you imagined. The whole room is covered in thick pink glittery smoke. Like your worst Barbie nightmare.
“What the⎼” you cough, waving your hands to clear the air and once it dissolves into nothingness with its weirdly cotton candy smell, there’s a boy in the middle of it all, sitting cross legged on your kitchen counter so casually as if he owned the place. His pink-ish purple hair hangs into his eyes and he seems to find your coffee machine strangely interesting. You grab the first thing you can ⎼ a blender ⎼ and hold it up in defensive before yelling at the boy: “Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my apartment?”
The stranger’s mouth pulls up in a charming smile, his eyes sparkle as he turns his attention to you, hopping off the counter. He’s all thin and long limbs, so you hate how you hate to look up at him as he walks towards you before bowing ceremoniously.
“Hello, sorry for the sudden appearance, I just couldn’t wait any longer! I’ve been stuck in that teapot waaay too long. I didn’t mean to be rude or anything. My name is Taeyong, I’m a wish dragon and you’re my new owner,” he smiles and what he says makes absolutely no sense.
“A wish dragon?” you mumble in shock, looking around to see if this is just another prank of Johnny. You wouldn’t be surprised to see him jump out from under one of the cupboards. Or maybe you just fell asleep and you’re dreaming. Yeah, that seems like a realistic scenario.
“Ah, yes! I know I don’t look like it but modern times require modern solutions. Most people freak out because of my dragon form, so human it is,” the boy who seems only a few years older than you grins as he’s chatting and you have to give it to him, he takes this role pretty seriously. “You have three wishes as my owner. You can ask for anything as long as it’s not about death or love.”
So you got yourself someone who thinks he’s basically a genie? Oh gosh, is he that drunk?
“Aha, very funny. I’m too tired for this prank, so I would appreciate it if you left the same way you came...” you point towards your window because there’s no way he came through the door. Putting down your blender because the guy looks pretty harmless despite his crazy blabbering, you move to go back to your bedroom.
“No, no, no, I can’t do that,” the boy, Taeyong as he introduced himself, appears in front of you within a second and grabs your shoulder as if he could shake some sense into you. He looks pretty desperate. “I can only get a new owner if I fulfill all wishes of yours. It was super stuffy in that box the last decade, you know.”
At that excuse you let out a laugh.
“You don’t even fit it the⎼”
“You were saying?” Taeyong is suddenly nowhere near ahead of you but instead a small creature, supposedly a dragon, in the size of your palm flies in front of your eye level. “It’s magic!”
Okay, now that sight makes you feel like it’s you who is drunk. Or worse.
“Am I dead?” you have to ask in a small, uncertain voice, trying to think back what could have happened. Maybe that explosion literally blew your apartment up? But it hurts when you pinch your arm and turning back into his human form, Taeyong wants to prove the very same thing. Not the hurting but the not dead part, obviously.
“No, you’re very much alive and a happy owner of a wish dragon. Not permanently, of course, but still,” he tells you as he drags you onto your couch in the living room. As if sitting down could help processing all this.
So you have a wish dragon in your home, a magical creature that can casually switch between its dragon and human form and he says you should wish for three things, so he could leave and you could go back to your old, boring life without magic and things that scare you to death at 11PM.
“Can I ask… why? Why me? I’m not really owner-material,” you whisper because heck yeah, you even managed to kill your cactus before. Taeyong purses his lips as he sits down, a hand at his chin.
“Well, it’s unusual indeed to have a peasant girl, no offence, as my owner but as far as I know, you and your friend asked for a sign that magic was real.”
Oh, you remember that, being so obsessed with shooting stars and other stuff like that, you two used Mark’s brother’s computer to browse the internet, trying to find evidence about all that. You were kids wanting to believe in a world beyond the one you knew. But...
“That was like 10 years ago,” you furrow your eyebrows, not getting the timing.
“Well, sorry, you weren’t put on the top of the Heaven wish list and the shipping from Shanghai to Vancouver isn’t the fastest either,” Taeyong shrugs as if it was supposed to be natural. As if that was the most unbelievable thing. Well, delivery services are sometimes a pain in the ass, that’s true but getting a wish delivered by Heaven was something you would have never thought of and it all drains down on you. Strangest realisation of your life.
“So… it’s all real,” you whisper ahead of yourself: magic, dragons and all that. You could basically see your old best friend’s I told you so smile and let out a soft chuckle. “I wish Mark could meet with you, too.”
At that the guy ahead of you claps his hands and rubs them together, creating the same purple smoke from before. You look at him alarmed.
“Your wish, my command,” Taeyong grins and lifts his hands and before you could make a sound of protest because gosh, you didn’t mean it literally, you feel the ground move under your feet and you’re falling, into the darkness but despite shutting your eyes automatically, fearing the impact of the crash, nothing comes. Only the smell of soy sauce in the air and warm sunshine on your skin… Wait, what?
Your eyelids fly open and you notice in shock that you’re not in your flat anymore, ready to sleep. Instead, you stand in the middle of a goddamn street somewhere in Korea based on the signs still in your PJ shorts and tee. Oh my gosh! You hide in an alley right away and yank the seemingly proud Taeyong with you.
“I didn’t tell you that I meant right now! I can’t meet Mark in my PJs and I need my phone and wallet to function anyways. Not to mention, I don’t speak Korean at all...” you ramble panicking, the realisation that you’re indeed on the other side of the Earth due to some magic is yet to register. But the awkwardness from the stares you have just gotten has already turned you bashful.
Listening to you, the wish dragon seems sheepish and slightly embarrassed as he scratched his nape, his colourful hair falling into his cast down eyes.
“Oh… sorry. I got so excited over the wish that I didn’t think about it! It’s been a while since I did teleport magic but hey, I still have it in me. Anyways, sorry. Phone and wallet, you said? Here you go,” he pulls out something from his pants which magically seems to be indeed your belongings. That definitely makes things earlier.
“Uhm, thanks. Where are we exactly?”
“Ah, well you mentioned your friend Mark Lee, so we’re here. Well, one bell away because I did remember that it’s rude to intrude other’s houses without permission first,” oh now, you know, you snicker internally and gulp because hell, even if you wanted to see Mark, you wouldn’t have thought that the meeting would come so soon. You didn’t have enough time to prepare yourself mentally.
“So… you’re telling me that this… is where Mark lives?” you point at the impressive apartment complex on the corner of the street but Taeyong shakes his head.
“Nope, This is where your Mark lives,” he says and before you could object about the ‘your’ part, the dragon points at the other side of the road at a luxurious house with a huge garden, basically a palace. Seeing the beautiful fountain, the modern and yet traditional Korean style building beyond the fences makes your jaw drop.
“Hahaha, alright for a magic dragon you must have made a mistake. There’s no way the Mark Lee I know lives here,” you look back at Taeyong finding it funny that the kid who used to wore his favourite tees until his mother basically threw them out would live at such a place.
“Mark Lee, korean name Minhyung, supposed to be 22 years old internationally soon. Bad eyesight, contagious laugh, clumsy but has surprisingly good reflexes, gets embarrassed easily. Sound familiar?” Taeyong crooks a brow at you as he reads the information off from a parchment he just took out of his pants. Everything he listed is just so Mark that you’re left in disbelief.
“Uuh… that sounds about right.”
“His father hit it big in 2016 with a tech company, their net worth has too many zeros to count,” Taeyong explains, seeing how surprised you were over the fact that he lived a lavish life like this. Not that he doesn’t deserve it! Mark is such a sweetheart, so of course, you would only want the best for him but as if half the world wasn’t enough, now you have another huge gap between you.
“Gosh, I really can’t believe this. How am I supposed to just ring the bell and say hello after so much time?” you sighed with your head in your hands. “Argh, I need to buy some clothes and change.”
Taeyong approves the idea based on how enthusiastically he hollers, you wonder why nobody on the street seems to pay no attention to him. Maybe only you see him, just more reason for you to be crazy.
“Good idea because we’re having dinner with Mark!”
“What?” you look up in shock, not following through. Taeyong grins down at you, flashing a giddy smile and with a twirl he’s changed from his baggy, casual clothes to something more chic but still laidback.
“Your wish was him meeting me, so I arranged everything. I can't meet him without you and the teapot there, you know,” he explains as if it was supposed to be obvious. You aren't ready yet though.
“You just want to eat all the fancy delicious food he has,” you squint at him suspiciously and the dragon stays silent, so you must be right. He laughs nervously.
“Maybe, but can you blame me? I haven’t had a feast since a literal decade!” he hollers and somehow you really cannot find it in yourself to be angry at him. You are in Seoul for god's sake after all and magic is real, you can put up with the inconvenience of buying clothes and making yourself look decent before dumping all this surprise on Mark.
An hour later you stand in front of the gates of the Lee mansion and nervously you wipe your sweating hands into your dress. You can totally do this, you just say hi to an old friend, it's not like you're afraid he wouldn't remember you, hah, of course not–
"Y/N!"
You whip your head at the call of your name to the source of that all too familiar voice. Sure it's deeper than you remember but there's no mistake in whose it is. Plus, who else would call your name in South Korea of all places.
"Mark, hey!" you wave the boy who just got out of one of the fanciest cars you've ever seen in your life. And yet, despite the Prada suit and expensive shoes, styled hair and Swiss watch on wrist, Mark Lee still has that goofy little smile and the doe eyes that used to make you weak in the knees. Hah, who are you kidding? They still do.
"Oh my god, dude, you… you got pretty," Mark jogs up to you and having no filter like always he blabbers immediately only to stutter as his ears turn red. It was so him talking before thinking, so you didn’t really mean to dwell on his words. Although you felt your cheeks dusted with pink soon enough. "I mean, it's really good to see you! I was so surprised to see your name in my calendar for today's dinner! You should have told me you were coming to Korea, I would have picked you up at the airport."
His calendar? Ah, of course, he must have been busy and all that. You wouldn’t have been surprised to see an assistant run after him at this point, so you wonder how your wish dragon magically put you onto his list of important people to meet. Gosh, it was so weird.
"Ah, I have a funny story about that…" you chuckled to yourself but before you could have get out anything, even a please, can we go to a more private place? Mark’s eyes zero on the guy next to you and his eyes grow comically wide.
"And uhm, who is your friend?" he points at Taeyong who waves him in exchange with a kilowatt smile. He looks back at you with his mouth agapé. "Oh my god, you came to invite me to your wedding?"
He says oh my god way too many times for an eloquent rich kid, he really is the Mark Lee you knew.
"No, never! I mean, of course, I would invite you but Taeyong and I– I literally met him on my way here," you explain hastily cursing yourself for the silly lie. You came to tell him the news not to try to make it believable.
“I heard there’s food,” the wish dragon pipes in very helpful and you shoot him a disapproving glance he doesn’t notice. Luckily, Mark doesn’t seem to mind.
“Oh, yeah, of course, dinner! Come on in, let’s get you two settled,” he grins albeit a bit awkwardly as he leads you through the gate after opening it with his card.
On the way through the very, very, very big garden, he’s chattering about how he misses the Vancouver weather, especially on humid, hot days like this and talks about how he thinks the fountain in their yard is a bit too much but his mom loved it and then before you know it, you sit by a huge dining table with fine food in front of you. Suddenly you can’t decide whether you're grateful for Taeyong’s shameless presence – he digs into the jjigae right away – because at least the situation isn’t awkward because of your silence or you’re annoyed by it because you must seem like a weirdo because of him. That’s why you decide to rip off the bandage and tell Mark as soon as the last maid has disappeared too.
“Okay, so actually I came here because I have a surprise,” you speak up, probably too serious because the boy almost chokes on his food due to how fast he turns his head towards you.
“More surprise?” he coughs out and you offer him a glass of water which he takes with a smile.
“You literally won’t believe this one!” you assure him and wait until he gulps down the drink. Only then you point to Taeyong and tell him that your childhood wish has come true.
Mark almost falls off his chair this time.
Not after you tell him that though. He laughs at that with that wheezing laugh of his as if you told the joke of the century then pats you on the shoulder murmuring That was a good one, bro and turning back to his food. But then you look at the magic dragon pointedly and Taeyong puts down his chopsticks with an exaggerated sign. Then he flexes his magic: turning into his dragon form among additional sparkles and Mark suddenly looks like he’s about to faint. He reaches out to tap on your shoulder while not taking his eyes off the wish dragon.
“Am I dreaming?” he whispers and honestly, you totally get his reaction while Taeyong mumbles something about ‘people these days not believing in dragons’ as he shows off all the things he could do: gift riches, make one stronger than they are, giving skills of whatever one wants. He starts rambling about how this one Chinese emperor became wealthy thanks to this, how that one actor in martial arts and all this before changing back to his human form and he continues eating his pasta like nothing ever happened.
“I can do this all day,” he shrugs as if he didn’t just perform the coolest magic tricks.
“This… this is the best thing ever!” Mark exclaims with those sparkles in his eyes you missed so much. He was always so excited about new things and it automatically makes you smile how he bombards Taeyong with million questions like: ‘So you are the wish dragon that grants wishes?’ or asking him about his scales, his unique color, how it feels to live in such a small teapot, how old he is and the dragon glows under all the attention. Can’t blame him but Mark has always been so curious about the world, it’s endearing.
“So your first wish was to meet me?” he turns to you after long minutes of interrogating Taeyong and suddenly, under the spotlight you don’t know what to do with yourself. You can feel yourself blushing because you didn’t necessarily mean to wish for that but it’s not like you’re regretting it, it’s just… you don’t want him to misunderstand.
“I thought you should meet him, too, after all the package was delivered for the two of us,” you look down, trying to sound nonchalant while picking your food, avoiding Mark’s gaze. No matter how open armed he welcomed you, you still aren’t convinced that it’s okay to be here because the more time you spend with him, the more you would like to stay a part of his life. “It’s just… I wasn’t really sure we could ever meet again. We didn’t keep contact after you left.”
With dropped shoulders, you try not to sound too downhearted because of what happened because you know all too well, it wasn’t his fault, it was a family decision and look at him, it did good for him! He seems happy, they live in a practically mansion but most importantly, he didn’t seem to change with the wealth. He might wear expensive clothes but under it all he’s still the boy with the most loveable smile.
“I… I was thinking about you a lot, I just thought you forgot about me,” Mark admits with a sheepish smile, tucking his hair behind his ear shyly. He really still is the same and it’s playing silly little games with your heart. If this was a cheesy Disney movie, a slow bgm would start to play as you look into each other but your moment is broken when Taeyong accidentally kicks into his chair as he stands up. At first he looks alarmed but then giggles.
“I will just… go. Don’t mind me,” he disappears like smoke with a wink, leaving you two alone at which Mark lets out a woah. You chuckle at his cute reaction, heart doing somersaults in your chest.
You thought it would be awkward, just the two of you alone after long years but Mark has this thing that he makes people feel comfortable around him, so it’s actually quite nice. You catch up on everything and anything that comes to your mind: old neighbours, studies, friends, what are you doing now and what would you like to do, too.
After finishing the delicious dinner, Mark offers a home tour which you would never refuse and you jaw drops at the huge crystal chandelier in their living room as well as their swimming pool but your favourite place in the whole mansion is Mark’s room because it’s just so him. You can’t describe it well but the moment you step inside, it feels like home. It’s cozy to the point it makes you want to cuddle a pillow. It has colours of pastels, a synthesizer here, a guitar there, posters of singers framed on his wall and vinyl records hanging down. His window has a view of sunset and Namsan above their green garden and although you haven’t been in Seoul before, you’re pretty sure it’s your favourite place in the whole damn city, too.
“Wait, there’s someone I would like you to meet,” Mark suddenly exclaims while you’re looking through his pictures and he pulls you out of his room, out of the house, into the garden: You giggle all the way as he’s being so secretive about it but then your steps halt unexpectedly and the hand you have in Mark’s yanks him back.
“Mark… why is there a tiger in your garden in the middle of Seoul?” you ask as quietly and as immobile as you can. You don’t want to attract the sleeping animal’s attention to yourself. But to your biggest surprise, the boy just laughs, his thumb caressing your skin soothingly.
“She’s Jasmine and she won’t hurt you,” he reassures you but needless to say, you’re not too calm and you’re pulled close to the wild animal that lifts its huge head towards you lazily. “She was abandoned by her mother as a cub and she was outcast in the zoo because she’s a bit sick, so she has always been weaker than her siblings. Dad made a donation and we have raised her since she was young.”
You hiss when Mark reaches out without fear but the tiger basically purrs as he strokes down his fur at the neck. You watch in awe as this big wild animal becomes a soft cat under the hands of Mark Lee. When the boy encourages you to pat her too, you hesitate but he promises you that it’s gonna be alright and you take a leap of faith.
“What’s her sickness?” you wonder aloud as your fingers get lost in the soft fur of the tiger. You hope she’s not in a lot of pain.
“It’s an immune system thing, not sure what exactly but she wouldn’t have survived this long in the wild,” the boy tells you and his mouth curls up in a smile when Jasmine licks your hand. It seems like you’re tiger-approved. You look into its warm brown eyes and your heart churns at the thought of her condition.
Mark tells you stories of Jasmine, about that one time she crashed his birthday cake or how much she likes to swim with him in their pool during summer and gosh, you could listen to him go on and on forever. You’re only reminded of the reality, that all this is just a possible one-time thing, a weekend getaway with magic when Taeyong shows up in swimwear, ready to crash in said pool.
“I guess he might have been bored in that teapot,” Mark laughs, not minding at all. He even offers you to join but you have a better idea.
“Taeyong, I have my second wish!” you call out for the wish dragon who’s suddenly much more excited about that than the water. He’s beside you in a moment, beaming and curious. You glance at Mark with a soft smile before looking at your personal genie confidently.
“I wish Jasmine would be healthy,” you whisper, playing with the tiger’s furry ears which she seems to enjoy. You were a little bit afraid the dragon would say it’s not possible, that he can’t cure sickness but to your relief, he just grins.
“Your wish, my command,” he nods and puts a hand over the animal. Nothing but a smoke of purple signals the magic being done but you believe in it and so does Mark by the looks of it. He reaches out for your hand and squeezes it gently.
“Thank you,” he smiles and you smile back. He used to be your best friend after all, it’s the least you can do for him.
Mark convinces you to stay the weekend and there’s no way you could tell no to him, not when he clears his schedule just for you. He never complains about how busy he must be working for his father’s business while being a music major at a local university. All he ever talks about is the places he wishes to show you and he takes you around Seoul as if he was your certificated tour guide. It’s lovely how enthusiastic he is about it while what really matters to you is the time you spend together. He makes sure you two take a million photos to remember by, Taeyong posing on half of them since he joins you on your little trips and sometimes it’s just the two of you watching the wish dragon being genuinely in awe by modern technology, 10 years is a long time after all.
On the last day before you have to go back to Vancouver (thanks to Taeyong’s kind offer to take you the same way you came back since he misunderstood you, you don’t have to sit through a 10+ hours flight and you have more time), Mark not only tries to make you breakfast despite having an in-house chef (his eggs are ugly as heck but you appreciate his efforts and can’t help but coo at his dreamy smile under that grey hoodie when you tell him it tastes yummy) but he also introduces you to his friends in Korea. Of course, they tease you (mostly Mark) about where he has been hiding you but it’s all chill and fun you’re not quite ready to say goodbye. But you should go because the more you stay, the more you don’t want to leave. You’re lucky enough for this chance to reunite with Mark but all good things end eventually.
“Let’s not disappear from each other’s life again, okay?” the boy grins at you as you’re ready to go, Taeyong already working on his magic.
“Yeah, let’s not,” you agree easily, looking forward to your video chatting and constant texting even if it’s from the two opposite ends of the Earth with a terrible time zone difference.
You glance at the wish dragon who’s drumming with his fingers while pursing his lips as if he was waiting for something and you let out a huff before working up the courage to actually do something about these feelings inside of you. You might have regretted not confessing in middle school, you have spent years wondering about the what ifs, so you don’t want to make the same mistake twice but still, you want to give Mark a chance to ignore it all if he wants to. So you step forward and wrap your hands around him as you hug him close. It’s obvious that your action takes him aback, he suddenly doesn’t know what to do with his hands and his body tenses under you but it all melts as you say those words that have been threatening to fall from your lips all this time:
“I have missed you.” you confess, honest and based on the hitch in his breathing, Mark must be surprised. You can’t blame him though, you just wanted him to know. You step back with a weary smile, his big Bambi eyes on you but before he could say anything you nod at Taeyong and you feel yourself falling, purple fog pulling you in. A few moments later you’re back in Vancouver, in your apartment, without him.
The first few days pass in a blurr, you can still barely believe what just happened. Your weekend with Mark feels like a too good dream but Mark kept his side of promise and texted you almost immediately as you left. He sends you selfies, songs that remind him of you and you talk about your days like you never did before. Still, it feels like you’re dancing around certain topics which are basically the elephant in the room and maybe that’s why Taeyong tries to cheer you up in his own way. Though, he soon realizes that you not being happy isn’t the problem, you are happy, you just… miss Mark more than you ever did.
“Enough of moping, you still have a wish left!” Taeyong exclaims, throwing himself onto your bed. “Come on, close your eyes, imagine what you want the most in the world and make a wish!" he singsongs. However, before you could even just indulge him, your phone pings with a new notification.
fullsun00 tagged you in their post!
You click on it right away, wondering what Mark’s friend Donghyuck is doing online at 1AM. The uploaded post turns out to be a photo of you and Mark when you all hang out near Han river. You were too busy at the time laughing at how the boy almost lost his whole scoop of ice cream before he could have had a single bite to notice his smile while looking at you. Based on his caption Donghyuck apparently wasn’t.
fullsun00: just old friends, they say. friends my ass @buttercupyn @onyourm__ark
You click your tongue wondering what Mark thinks of the callout but you press like on the post anyways. You put your phone aside before you could see how his other friends join the teasing in the comment section.
“Actually, I do have my third wish,” you speak up as you turn to Taeyong before he could make a remark on your tinted cheeks.
You’ve been thinking a lot about it during the past days. You could wish for anything but you’re at a point of your life where no riches or fame would make you happier because you’re happy enough just the way it is. It might not be perfect but you don’t want to be selfish and you want to make decisions you won’t regret: like catching up with Mark, curing his tiger and bringing happiness into the life of somebody who only ever served other people in his life.
“Ooh, what is it?” Taeyong claps, giddy as if he was waiting for this to happen. He probably did.
“I wish you would go on a vacation and enjoy life,” you tell him but unlike his usual reaction, this time the dragon’s smile fades and he blinks at you, confused.
“You could ask for anything in the world and that’s what you want? Are you sure?” he furrows his brows, not quite believing your words but you just smile, knowingly.
“Yes, Taeyong, I’m sure.”
“Your wish, my command,” he bows with his hands put together and with a twirl suddenly he’s in a Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses, looking as ready for a holiday as one can be. You chuckle and tell him to just go, you’ll be fine.
You’re fine, you really are. Life goes on, you study and work, you laugh with your friends, you video call with Mark regularly and his friends are regulars on your social media, too. It’s just sometimes the feeling of missing something hits you harder than other days. Especially when you’re looking through the pictures you have from your Seoul weekend.
“I wish you were here,” you whisper ahead of you at one particularly good photo of Mark and the sunset, smiling at you behind the camera. You miss his smile, the cute wrinkles around his eyes when he crunches his nose, the sound of his laughter, his hand on your wrist… you miss him.
Ding-dong.
You stand up startled at the sound of your flat’s bell, running to the door to open it even though you have no idea who it could be so early on a Saturday morning. Not having a better idea, you expect it to be either a neighbour of your landlord but on the other side of your doorstep stands a boy who you thought was a continent away. He’s dressed semi-casually this time, his shirt tucked in his jeans, hair lightly falling onto his forehead and a nervous smile on his thin lips.
“Mark! But I⎼ I don’t even have more wishes,” you blink, taken aback, looking around to look for Taeyong in case he came back. But your behaviour just manages to confuse Mark instead.
“What?”
“I just wished you were here,” you blurt out without thinking, your words only processing later in your brain and it’s then when heat creeps onto your cheeks. Mark tries to but can’t really hide his growing smile at that.
“Really? I’m glad then. I just took my new private plane on a test drive,” he says bashfully, a silly excuse for real.
“All the way to Vancouver?” you tease, watching Mark fumble with the hem of his shirt. Your heart beats overtime just because of the fact that he’s there.
“Well, what can I say? I did miss the weather here,” he plays along with a shrug but he’s more serious when he looks deep into your eye and adds: “And you left without letting me answer.”
Oh yes, you did. You were kind of afraid of his reaction but seeing how he was ready to travel across the world just to see you, maybe there’s no reason for you to be so afraid. It feels like deja vu but a reversed one in a way as Mark gently pulls you into a hug, his lips grazing your hair with a whisper that makes your heart skip a beat: “I have missed you too.”
You really wouldn’t wish for anything more.

B1/65 with Red Son, in his bull true form, trying to make moves on new Monkie MK.
B1. “You’re being shy with me, aren’t you?” “No I’m not!” “Yes you are!” B65. “Do you have to get up? I was just getting comfy.”
MK stepped forward, arms outstretched, he wobbled and yelped as he tripped on a piece of carpet, his back hit the floor with a thud. Heavy footsteps stomped on the stairs and the door slammed open. “Kid, you sure you’re okay?” Pigsy asked, his brows furrowed, this was the fifth time today he had done this.
“I’m fine,” he assured. “I’m just trying to get used to this.” He gestured to his skin which was now covered in soft fur.
Pigsy pulled him up, MK rocked and had to place a hand on the pig’s shoulder for support. “You can wait until it wears off,” he said.
“I know but what if this happens again? I can’t just stand around doing nothing until it wears off and what if it never wears off?”
Pigsy sighed. “It will. The Monkey King said it would wear off and I believe him.”
You finally believe him, Xiaotian wanted to snark but held back. “Yea I know but I feel useless if I don’t do anything. I have to master this!”
“Fine. Fine. Just be careful. I don’t want you to bump your head or anythin’.”
“I will,” he promised as Pigsy shut the door to let the other return to his endeavor. Instead of doing so, he flopped down on his bed, sinking into the sheets. He took his phone out to examine the markings that now donned his face. He traced them with his thumb, still amazed at his transformation.
He had awoken this morning with brown fur covering this body and after a lot of confused screaming and tripping that involved Pigsy and Tang calming him down, they called the Monkey King for answers.
The king had told him that his shapeshifting powers must have activated and that the change would wear off in time until then he would have to get used to it. The king offered to teach them how to balance on their tail but they refused as they took it as a sign that they were growing into a worthy successor and needed to practice some things on their own. He had insisted to the king, Pigsy, Tang, Mei, Sandy, all of them that he could do this. Eventually the king left, telling them to call if they needed him.
MK wanted to prove they could do this. They set their phone aside and put one foot forward, when they didn’t slip, they took another one and then another. They breathed out of relief, finally getting used to their shift.
They made the decision to try this out more and went into the shop. He waved at Pigsy and Tang. “Hey, kid. You okay now?”
“Yea! I’m going to try this out! See you!” He walked out of the place, hoping that no one would give him weird looks as he passed by but then again, this city had the Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan attacking on a daily basis so strange didn’t exist anymore.
He wandered around, not noticing the huge shadow that trailed behind him. He placed his hands in his pockets and whistled, the figure crept closer and closer until he was pushed into an alleyway, he gasped and took out his staff. He couldn’t see his opponent as his face was buried in red fur.
“Relax, Noodle Boy,” his opponent said.
“Red?” He stared up to see horns jutting from the other’s head, an appearance similar to his father’s.
“Uh, hey, Noodle Boy,” he greeted shyly.
“Red? Why do you look like that?”
“It’s my true form,” they pointed out. “Dragon girl told me something happened and I know what it’s like to be ashamed of your form so I decided to do this.”
“Red… that’s sweet of you.” He really was touched at it.
“Anyway, you look wonderful, Noodle Boy.”
Xiaotian’s cheeks turned pink. “Thank you. You look great too,” he squeaked out and hid his face. Red’s form was hot and the sudden boldness just added to it.
“What’s wrong, Noodle Boy?”
“Nothing!”
“You’re being shy with me, aren’t you?”
“No I’m not,” he argued, his cheeks turning redder.
“Yes you are!”
“Shush, Red! I’m just not used to seeing you like this.”
“Do you think it’s hot?”
“Noooooo…”
“You do. That makes me feel better about this.”
“Of course it’s amazing, Red and thanks. I wasn’t feeling insecure about it or anything but thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
They lingered in silence for a bit before it was broken by MK running his fingers through the other’s hair. “So soft,” he whispered as his eyes turned sparkly. “You don’t mind, right?”
A shake of the head. “Not at all.”
“We should probably go somewhere that’s not.” He gestured to the alley and placed the staff back in his ear.
“Right. Right.” He transformed back to human form, taking the other by the arm and leading them to their apartment.
When they arrived, the demon hesitantly went back to his bull form then lightly pushed the other against the wall, one hand laid up above the other’s head. “You look really cute, Noodle Boy,” he whispered.
The other returned to his red face. “Thanks, Red. You look cute too. What’s with the sudden boldness?”
“I just wanted to tell you the truth,” he answered.
“Awwww, Red. That’s sweet. Really sweet.” He planted a kiss on his cheek, the demon’s fur poofed slightly.
“I was wondering if you wanted to do something with me.”
“Like?”
“Cuddle, perhaps while you’re like this until it wears off I suppose.”
MK raised a brow, he snarled, “Rather forward of you, Red.”
The other’s shoulders tensed and yelled, “Quiet, Noodle Boy! I was just trying to be polite!”
He laughed in response. “Yea. I would like that.” He dragged him to the bed and the other laid down hesitantly.
MK buried his head in the other’s fur, running his fingers through it while Red threaded his own fingers on his scalp. Their hearts beated as one and purrs escaped their lips during their contentment.
It felt weird at first for Xiaotian to purr but he enjoyed the way he and Red’s chest rumbled. He wouldn’t mind taking this form more often, not just as an indication of his worth as a successor but also the purrs and warmth he got from his fur. And maybe if he did this again so would Red.
“I love you, Red,” he confessed.
A brief pause. “I love you too, Noodle Boy. We should do this more.”
“We should.”
There was a brief silence before Red said, “You’re gorgeous.”
“Thanks, Red. You’re pretty gorgeous yourself.”
“Thanks, Noodle Boy.”
They whispered soft things to each other, peppering kisses and letting time go by until there was a shout under the shop from Pigsy, a sound that rang like he had accidentally dropped something.
“MK,” the two managed to hear from the apartment. “Can you help me?”
“Sure, Pigsy,” he yelled back and stood up.
Red grabbed his hand. “Do you have to get up? I was just getting comfy.”
“I have to help Pigsy but I’ll be back.”
A sigh emitted from the other. “Fine but you had better be ready when you come back.”
He chuckled. “I will” then smooched his cheek. “I’ll be back,” he exclaimed then left.
Red huffed and stroked his red fur. “Maybe this isn’t a bad form after all.”

A Modern AU
or
Namaari is randomly assigned a night shift in the ER where she meets a patient named Raya, who appears to be suffering from broken ribs. However, the shift takes a turn when Raya flatlines, and Namaari pushes herself to save the girl whose smile is engraved in her head.
Word Count: 2199
Warning’s: Major character injury, and a temporary death
--
Raya and Sisu are being walked into a patient room by an ER nurse called Atitaya.
Sisu loudly states, “Stupid! All these injuries were caused by stupidness!”
Raya glared at her as she held her sternum; she felt a lot of tenderness and trouble breathing. She couldn’t see, but she was sure that her rib cage would be bruised if she lifted her shirt. It’s just a few broken ribs, she thought before answering, “Tong was looking at me funny!”
“He smiled at you…because you tripped,” Sisu replied, rubbing her face with her hands as they entered the patient room.
Once entering the room, Raya quickly jumps onto the patient’s bed, resulting in her groaning in pain. “The details on how the fight broke out don’t matter. I WON: I broke one of his front teeth, his nose, and made it nearly impossible for him to have children again”. She answered as she licked the inside of her left cheek, tasting iron. She must have bitten the inside of her lip when she received a punch to her face.
Both Raya and Sisu noticed the nurse was now nervous. Then again: Who could blame her after what she just heard. But no matter how scared Atitaya was internally, she still placed a pulse oximeter on Raya’s left index finger and a blood pressure cuff on her right arm. Before taking an oral temperature.
“Remember, I work here, Raya! Please don’t scare my coworkers,” Sisu pledges as she looks at Atitaya smiling before sitting down. “Tong should also be a patient of yours tonight. I know this sounds crazy, but we’re all great friends.”
Suddenly Tong’s voice is echoing through the ER hallways. “ARE YOU OKAY, RAYA” Atitaya jumps as she finishes taking Raya’s temperature.
“I’M ALRIGHT! SORRY TONG, I HOPE YOUR MANLY HOOD WASN’T LOST,” Raya screams back, smiling, as his laughter is filling the hallway once again. She turns to look at Sisu, who is practically crying in the chair from embarrassment.
“Ms. Hart. I’m going to have to ask you to not scream,” The nurse says in a calm voice, trying not to smile.
Raya begins to nod in agreement before she starts clenching at her chest before gasping for air. The pain is excruciating. Yet, she is still hopeful it’s just broken ribs, and they haven’t punctured her lung; because that would hurt way more...right?
Atitaya was about to excuse herself from the room to locate Namaari, the nurse practitioner who can order an X-ray and medicine. Yet as she unbadged herself from the computer, she hears three knocks on the door. A tale sign that Namaari was about to enter the room. The three knocks are a secret signal she uses with all her nurses to know of her presence.
“Hello. My name is Namaari; I’m the nurse practitioner this night shift. I heard the screaming and your very muffled voice. Could I take a look at your injury?”
Raya’s head jerks in the direction of the knocks spotting the new nurse, Namaari. She smiles widely. The new nurse is wearing a white coat over grey scrubs. Her scrubs were tightly fitted, showing that under, she had a muscular figure. Her skin was golden brown, with piercing brown eyes. She also had a very attractive undercut screaming, ‘Sapphic.’
Raya also notices a tattoo cuff on her left ear, probably because it’s a safety hazard to wear jewelry in hospitals: They can easily be pulled by angry or upset patients--She lightly bites on her bottom lip before answering, “Are you sure my voice was muffled? Maybe you were just attracted to my voice and needed a reason to come in here,” She felt pretty winded after that finishing her sentence, but she was still able to lift her left eyebrow.
And yes, Raya was dam aware she shouldn’t be hitting on the hospital staff, but come one. She’s hot.
“RAYA” Sisu screamed from the corner of the room.
Namaari stood at the door frame with a gentle smile on her lips.
Raya assumed the flirting attempt went over Namaari’s head. She couldn’t bear to think the gorgeous nurse was choosing to ignore her. “I would have gotten myself injured sooner if I knew this godly woman would show up to rescue me,” Raya struggles to say as she winks.
Seconds later, Raya’s body was overwashed with a painful sting “ah fuck” she states as she curls into herself, gripping at her right ribcage.
Namaari was used to patients flirting with her; It comes with the job. However, It’s usually easy for her to ignore flirtations. Yet Namaari wasn’t blind; this patient was gorgeous even in her physical state.
Raya was beaten, a purple bruise appearing on her left cheek, her clothes dirty from the struggle of her disagreement.
Namaari cannot deny how Raya’s smile made her feel some weird sensation in the pit of her stomach: People call that feeling butterflies.
This patient was trouble, but that somehow excited Namaari.
Suddenly Namaari remembered the other voice in the room and turned to see Sisu, jumping from her seat running over to Raya. She didn’t necessarily consider Sisu, a friend. Still, she often saw her in the ER because she is part of the psychiatry department. Sisu would often come and evaluate patients for hospitalization. “Quite ironic, how a trauma nurse is in the ER for a trauma injury,” Sisu hummed as she ran her hands through Raya’s hair.
Namaari forced herself out of her thoughts and walked over to Raya. Looking up at the vital machine monitor. Her pulse was high, resting in the 110s, and her blood pressure was also abnormal. “Call for an X-ray and tell them I okayed it.” She finally says, looking straight at Antitya, who nods and exits the room.
Namaari walks over to the computer in the room, quickly badging in and ordering her some narcotics to give Raya once the broken or fractured ribs are conformed by the X-ray.
Sisu is just smiling at Namaari from afar as she consoles Raya, who is cussing in pain with each of her breathe’s.
“Can you please lay back on the bed so I can look at your injury” Raya hears the attractive nurse say. She hums as Sisu lets go of her stepping back, her place now replaced by Namaari smiling gently at her. Raya tried to shift her position to lay herself on the bed, but it hurt so much to do it.
Raya felt as she was being punched in the lungs if she moved even an ounce. To distract herself from her pain, she watched as Namaari, who looked over at the vital machine, and for a moment, panic showed on her face. Nevertheless, Namaari’s eyes meet hers again as she smiled, trying to comfort her, which she did.
However, seconds later, Raya felt her brain becoming fuzzy with the pain radiating all over her body, her breathing very labored as she gasped for air. Raya knew she was about to pass out, but she never felt safer. She knew she was in Namaari’s hands, and something deep down within her knew she would be okay.
Namaari watched as Raya’s pulse shot up to 140, while her Oxygen dropped to 87. This wasn’t just a case of broken ribs anymore.
Namaari quickly walked towards the wall and pulled on a red switch, the rapid code. Its unique alarm went off, and she knew that the call light was flashing red outside. Both these tools allow for the other medical staff to be informed the patient in that room is deteriorating, and further assistance is needed.
Raya’s vision was becoming blurred with speckles of black as she was consumed by her agony. All she wanted to do was scream or even cry, but the pain was so immense that her body forced her to stay silent. Raya felt like a prisoner in her body, unable to communicate what she was experiencing.
Soon enough, Raya was overwashed with a need to close her eyes; it’s like her body was promising her that if she went to sleep, the pain would stop. She wanted to give in to this promise, but she fought it for now.
Raya couldn’t move, but she felt as the nurse slowly guided her down onto the bed as Sisu cried in the background. The rapid alarm echoed throughout the room, and she couldn’t help but laugh in her mind as this time it was pulled for her. Most times, Raya was running the rapid codes saving people’s lives, yet right now, her life rested in that beautiful nurse’s hands.
Those were Raya’s last thoughts as her mind went blank, properly passing out.
Once Namaari guided Raya to lay on her back, she quickly placed an oxygen mask on her as the room was suddenly swimming with more staff members. Everyone trying to help in some way, taking blood pressures, starting an IV, calling for a portable X-ray machine, and calling for an OR in case of emergency surgery: as it seemed, Raya did have a punctured lung caused by her broken ribs.
Suddenly Atitaya was next to Namaari. “I told Sisu to wait in the waiting room; she didn’t want to go, but I showed her out” OHH, yea Raya’s girlfriend, Maari thought.
Apparently, Sisu was screaming in the background, which she completely blocked from her head. Namaari’s excuse being that she was trying to save Raya’s life. “I should have known she was high on adrenaline, and It was muting her pain symptoms--” Atitaya whispered to Namaari.
Namaari knew her nurse was blaming herself for something she didn’t think about either. She let the girl’s beautiful coffee eyes distract her. And now she’s watching her vitals plummet.
Suddenly a women’s voice screamed, “She decompensating. She’s about to flatline someone start compressions NOW.” Namaari didn’t look up to check who ordered that; she assumed the order was from a resident. Namaari quickly crouched and pressed on the CPR lever under the bed that laid the bed completely flat. She quickly placed her left hand over her right interlocking her fingers after standing up before placing her hands on Raya’s sternum. She began compressions, two inches deep each time. Simultaneously, Atitaya was bagging Raya so she could breathe for her.
After the first round of 30 compressions; The resident speaks again, “Turn her onto her side Namaari” Namaari did as she was told, recognizing the voice to belong to Amba. Anyways, another staff member slipped a flat board under Raya’s back. Once it was in place, Namaari quickly laid her back down and continued compressions. Soon a tiny monitor was placed below Namaari’s hands, which actually told her if her compressions were deep enough.
After about 3 minutes of constant compressions, Namaari’s compressions weren’t deep enough. “Switch,” She states as Atitaya takes over compressions and Namaari begins to bag Raya.
Only once Namaari stopped compressions did she notice the room was full of various staff members; the rapid code was now a code blue, a whole different sound echoing through the room.
It’s crazy, but you don’t hear these changes during an emergency. You only listen to what’s essential to saving the patient’s life.
As Atitaya performed more compressions, the sound of one of Raya’s ribs breaking under her force was heard. Atitaya flinched, realizing she caused her recovery to be longer if she survives. But that sometimes happens; you hurt the person you’re trying to save. Most people don’t mind a broken rib if it means you saved their life.
Namaari was snapped back into the present when she heard “charge to 100” before “CLEAR.” That’s all it took. Raya’s pulse came back. Namaari felt so relieved: She’s always happy to save someone’s life, but today, right now, she’s overjoyed.
Nevertheless, Namaari doesn’t understand how two sentences from this patient had her heart throbbing within her chest.
She doesn’t know how or why the relief she’s currently experiencing is so overpowering.
With all these inner thoughts, Namaari still smiles as now she has the chance to get to know Raya. UGHHH, no, you cannot get to know her! She’s dating Sisu...
Stop overthinking Namaari. SNAP OUT OF IT!
“Thank’s, Namaari. We’ll take it from here,” Amba, the surgical resident, says; As a portable x-ray machine is brought into the room to scan Raya.
Once a resident or doctor from a different unit takes over, Raya is no longer her patient, and she needs to let her go and help another patient. Even so, she left the room and waited outside it to listen in. “She’s punctured her left lung; we need to rush her into emergency surgery, page Pengu. He’s the best cardiothoracic surgeon!”
Namaari exhaled as she watched nurses and doctors from the surgical unit transport, Raya, off the emergency unit to the operating room.
Namaari had gotten Raya’s heart to pump again, but the surgery will decide whether she lives or dies. Knowing this, she rested her head on the wall regaining her posture, putting a smile on her face as she heard her name being called from another patient’s room.

Did Fate Screw Us?
Summary: Everyone has a Soul Mark. Yours just happens to make you miserable. Your brother, Ken, tries to make it better, but between work and having to care for your siblings, telling Tooru Oikawa that you’re his soulmate really isn’t on your agenda.
TW: Mentions of animal abuse, child neglect, there’s some swearing, a little bit of angst.
A/N: This was supposed to be a cute little one-shot, but it’s over five thousand words and there’s some angst, but it has a happy ending I swear!
You stared down at the tattoo that wove it's way up your arm, the turquoise and white and a strange shade of brown all interwoven and twisted together, coming to a stop right above your heart in a ball of tangled colors.
It was your Soul Mark, a permanent tattoo everyone got when they turned ten years old. Yours was different from everyone else's though. Most people had a small bracelet tattoo over their veins, others had a small ball above their heart like the one where your tattoo ended. Others even had tattoos that covered their entire hands.
Yours though, yours went from the tips of your fingers all the way up your arm, over your shoulder, before sliming to a ball over your heart, whorls and smears of ink that covered your skin.
Your mother had cried the first time she had seen it, but had never told you why.
You had figured it out, years later, in history class.
The bigger the mark, the more skin that was covered, the harder the relationship would be.
You had started to hate the mark after you figured that out. You had thought maybe fate had screwed up somehow.
Even the universe could make mistakes right?
But then you saw him for the first time.
Tooru Oikawa, an amazing setter.
You had gone to the same middle school, and you'd seen him around in the halls. You had seen him smiling at a pretty girl in your last year there. Everyone was figuring out who their soulmates were, getting crushes and getting over the whole cooties phase.
He was attractive, he was smart, he was an athlete. He was everything society wanted him to be. Except for his mark.
He had always seemed do proud of it, despite it's size, the white and turquoise curled around a color the same shade as your eyes.
You had seen his mark, looked down at yours, and immediately known what was going on.
You hadn't talked to him though, you had realized, even at such a young age, that he was going to be great, that he was going to do amazing things, and that you would only distract him
You had started to cover your mark up, getting up early to cover it completely in concealer, wearing a sweater in the winters as an excuse.
You thought that after middle school you wouldn't have to worry about it.
But then you walked into class on your first day of high school at Seijoh.
He was right there, sitting in class with Iwaizumi, Hanamaki, and Matsukawa.
He'd glanced up at you when you walked in, before going back to talking to Iwaizumi, tattoo on full display.
You kept your head down, you went through the motions, you avoided him whenever possible.
Until the next year, when your brother, Kentarou, joined the volleyball team.
Kentarou, as much as he looked like a delinquent, was a good kid. He was scary looking, but he was sweet, and he always had a hug for you when you needed one.
Which was more often than you would've liked to admit.
"Ken, you need to stop forgetting your phone," you chided as you handed your baby brother his phone. "What if Kaida needs us and I don't answer?"
"I know, I'm sorry, I thought I put it in my bag this morning," he grumbled, taking a drink from his water bottle.
"Just . . . try to remember okay?" you asked, moving your head to look at him.
"Alright," he mumbled.
"Good boy," you teased, ruffling his hair.
"Stop that," he hissed. "You'll get that skin shit in my hair."
"It's called concealer, dumbass, and no I won't."
"Is Kyouken-chan willingly being touched by someone?" a voice cooed, and you tensed when you saw Oikawa step towards you.
"Who's your friend Kyoutani?" Iwaizumi asked, looking at you.
"My sister. Kyoutani (Y/F/N)."
"You two look nothing alike," Iwaizumi said, glancing between the two of you.
"Ken looks like our father, I got more of our mother's looks," you said, trying to act like you weren't being drawn to the setter, like your entire being wasn't aching to be nearer to him.
He was looking at you quizzically, before his eyes darted to your hand, then back to your eyes.
"Remember to text me when you get home," you told Kentarou. "Oh, and I'll be late again tonight because I have a shift at the shelter. Make sure to feed the dogs, and get Kaida to bed on time or so help me, I will ground the both of you."
"I will," Ken hissed.
You nodded to Oikawa and Iwaizumi, walking as slowly as you could manage towards the gym doors.
Once the door was safely shut and you were far enough away, you crouched by the lockers, taking deep breaths.
He must've felt the pull. He must've. There was no way he didn't know now. All your hard work, down the drain just because your little brother forgot his phone.
What if he wanted to talk to you? What if he wanted to try and make something work? What if he wanted to be with you?
"I have to get out of here," you muttered, bolting for the entrance to the school.
________________________________ Your panic subsided when you went to school the next day and Oikawa didn't try to talk to you. Kentarou had remembered everything so you didn't need to track him down, so it was a good day.
Until you got to work.
"We have a new arrival," you supervisor told you.
"Uh oh, that doesn't sound good."
"Well, they don't seem to be taking very well to any of our other members. I figured if anyone could get him to calm down, it was you."
"Breed?"
"From what we can tell, a Pitbull Great Dane mix. Cops raided a dog fighting ring."
"Poor babies."
"They found four litters of puppies. Three with six and one with eight."
You shook your head.
Despicable.
"Here he is."
"Oh, poor baby," you cooed, taking in the light brown dog as he trembled in the corner of his kennel. "Hey there fella," you said softly. "Is he violent?"
"Nope, go right ahead," your supervisor said, leaving you to do your job.
"Hey, it's okay," you murmured, stepping inside, shutting the door, leaning against it.
The dog reminded you of someone, with it soft brown eyes and lighter colored fur, but you couldn't place who.
"It's okay," you promised. "I'm not going to hurt you. See? No sharp sticks or shocking guns. I promise, I'm not going to hurt you. I know that it's loud in here."
You slowly stretched your hand out so he could sniff it, watching for signs of aggression. You had enough bite marks to know that sometimes random little things triggered a dog.
No sudden movements and you would probably be fine, but you wanted to make sure.
Slowly, the dog lifted it's head, stretching out it's neck to sniff your hand, licking your palm lightly.\
"There you go. See? I'm not going to hurt you," you said calmly, moving to rub his head softly.
His hackles raised slightly and you drew back.
"Okay, no touching yet, that's okay, we can work up to that," you said.
"Did you get him to calm down?"
"Yeah, but warn everyone not to touch him, he got a little agitated," you told your boss when he came back ten minutes later.
"Do you want this one?"
"If you wouldn't mind giving it to me, yes. I want to make sure he's safe before we give him to a family."
"So he's your responsibility when you're one shift now."
"Alright. Can you get me a harness?"
__________________________ As soon as you stepped through the door after your shift, your little sister Kaida was throwing herself into your legs.
"(Y/F/N)! You're home!"
"Hello little dragon, have you eaten?"
"Sort of, I made myself a sandwich when I got home, but Ken isn't home yet."
"Alright, did you do your homework?"
"Yes," she said proudly showing you her scribbled on math homework.
"Good girl," you cooed. "Go watch some TV while I start dinner, yeah?"
"Alright!"
You smiled fondly as she bolted to the living room.
At nine years old, your sister had the same coarse, frizzy hair of your brother, and she wore braids most of the time to control it, but when she got home for the day they came out. She was such a bubbly person, especially for someone her age, and she made you smile everyday.
You found a pot and filled it with water, digging out a box of pasta.
The door slamming twenty minutes later signaled Ken's return and you smiled at him when he threw his bag down.
"How was your day?"
"Long," he grumbled, moving to the living room, probably in search of Kaida.
He came back in five minutes later and said, "I know you worked today, go sit down, it's my day to cook dinner anyway."
"Thank you," you told him, snatching the brush he had in his hands.
He grunted, moving around the kitchen, taking over.
"Kaida, come here, I'll help you with your hair," you called, and she plopped herself in your lap eagerly.
"You're much better at this than Ken," she told you, making you laugh when Ken made a protest in the kitchen.
"Ken tries his best but he doesn't understand how it feels to have your hair pulled."
You quickly worked your way through her hair, letting it calm you as well as her. She told you about her day, and about how she had met this really cute boy on the way home that had just moved into the neighborhood.
"His name's Takeru Oikawa!"
Ken dropped something in the kitchen and you dropped the brush you were holding.
Your brother knew Oikawa was your soulmate, and you had both agreed to keep it between the two of you until you were ready to face it.
"Ken, are you alright in there?"
"No," he snapped, stepping into the living room.
"What did you drop?"
"I'm not hurt," he told you, waving you away when you rushed over.
"What's with the reaction?" she asked, turning to look at you both.
"We . . . we might go to school with a family member of his," you said. "Did he mention someone named Tooru?"
"Yeah, that's his uncle."
You let out a breath, picking up the brush.
"Sorry we freaked you out baby," you murmured, running the brush through her hair again.
"It's okay," she replied, leaning back into you.
"If you want, you can invite him out for a playdate," you told her.
"We said we'd walk home with each other," she said.
A lot of the kids in the neighborhood walked to school together in big groups, kids who's parents worked early or had older siblings that couldn't take them.
"Okay sweetheart."
"When's Mommy coming home?"
"Late, sweetpea," Ken told her. "She's taking another shift at the hospital this month."
"Oh," Kaida said, deflating a little.
"Dad said that he could take you this weekend if you wanted," you told her, making her perk up.
"Really?"
"Yep, do you wanna go?"
"Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!" she shouted.
"Okay, go call him," you said, smiling at her enthusiasm.
"You work too hard," Ken mumbled when he sat down. "You look tired."
"I'm fine," you assured him. "Besides, there's a new dog! I think you'd like him."
Ken nodded, slumping onto your shoulder.
"You really should talk to him."
You opened your mouth to argue, but Ken interjected.
"I know I say a lot of shit about him, but he is a good guy, and I think he'd be good for you. I also think he deserves to know."
"He's not going to want me Ken," you said. "He's going to take one look at me and this mark and he is going to laugh and walk away."
"Not everyone is Mom and Dad," Ken grunted.
"I know that," you snapped, then winced. "I know that, but . . . I also know how much he loves volleyball. I know how hard he pushes himself to do better, be better. I'm not . . . I'm not the kind of person he's going to want, or the person he needs."
"You're soulmates, if anyone is made for him, it's you!"
"Mom and Dad were made for each other," you reminded him. "Mom and Dad were soulmates and look how they turned out. Not to mention Grandma and Pops!"
Ken sighed.
"Just . . . think about it please. He wants to know you. All he talks about is how amazing they're going to be and how beautiful they are. He doesn't even know it's you."
"Ken, if he knew me, he'd hate me."
"If he did then he'd be missing out on a lot."
"Ken, you're required to say that."
"I'm not. I'm telling the truth."
You rolled your eyes, but patted his knee.
"Get back in the kitchen, you're gonna burn dinner." ____________________________
A few more weeks went by, and everything was good.
Kaida and Takeru were fast friends, and when she wasn't playing with him, she had gotten hooked on volleyball, just like her brother.
Takeru had taken a liking to your house as well, so there was more giggling going on now.
It made you happy that she had such a good friend, someone that made her smile like that. She had never had many friends.
"Kaida, I want you to remember that I have to work tonight, and that Ken is picking you up, alright?"
"Okie dokie!" she said, dashing into the community center where she was learning to play volleyball with Takeru.
As soon as you got to the shelter you headed for Kuma, the mix that had come in. He still really only liked you, but that was okay.
"Hey big fella!" you said when you walked into his cage.
He had really come out of his shell, he liked the friendlier dogs, and you had brought Ken in, so he was okay with someone other than you.
He didn't like cats, but he didn't seem to mind little children.
"You wanna go for a run?" you asked, holding the harness in your hand.
He jumped and gave a happy little noise that you took as a yes.
Kuma was only about a year and a half old, and he still had the energy of a puppy.
"Okay boy, come on," you cooed, hooking the harness on, opening the door. "I'll be back in twenty minutes!"
You loved going on runs with Kuma, one because no one gave you any problems, two because it gave you the exercise that you missed out on in school. You took the job in lieu of a club, and this gave you the exercise.
"Hey (Y/F/N)!"
"Ken? What are you doing out here?"
"The team is on a run," he said, crouching to pet Kuma, who licked his face. "I saw you and bolted ahead."
He was right, the rest of the boys seemed to be catching up to him and Kuma looked at them excitedly.
He was becoming much more friendly with other people as long as they didn't work at the kennel.
"That's a big dog," Iwaizumi muttered when he slowed down. "Is that yours?"
"No, he's a new rescue that came in earlier this month. This is Kuma, and he's a very good boy."
Iwaizumi let the dog sniff his hand and laughed, rubbing his ears.
"You two need to stop rushing ahead," Oikawa chided, bent over his knees panting.
"Kyoutani was the one that ran off yelling! I wanted to make sure he wasn't gonna deck some poor soul."
"I'm not that bad," Ken muttered.
"Puppy!" Oikawa shouted when he straightened. "Can I pet him?"
"Yes," you said, after making sure his yell didn't startle the poor dog.
"What's his name?"
"Kuma, for now, but when he gets adopted they might change it," you said, scratching his back lovingly.
"(Y/F/N), let's be real here, if you have it your way, you'll be bringing him home," Ken mumbled.
"And that wouldn't be a bad thing. I'd feel better knowing that you and Kaida weren't home all alone with two little terriers as protection," you snapped. "Especially since Takeru has been coming over! No one would ever really wanna mess with you, would they baby?" you asked, cooing to the dog, who licked your cheek.
"How do you know my nephew?" Oikawa asked, suddenly straightening.
"Your nephew is now my d-" you paused, catching yourself. "My little sister's new best friend. Kaida Kyoutani?"
"Shittykawa, how did you not put that together?" Iwaizumi asked.
"They look nothing alike!"
"Bullshit," Ken coughed, glancing at you.
Your wrist buzzed and you sighed.
"Great, now I get to go get mauled by a bunch of five-year-old's and a bunch of five month old puppies," you moaned, waving your brother off Kuma. "Come on boy, let's head back. Remember Ken, you have to pick Kaida up. Mom won't be home tonight, she's pulling a double shift, and Dad said he might stop by. Pops is coming by on Saturday to see us, and I want the house cleaned before then because you know how Pops gets. I feel like I'm forgetting something."
"Homework, food, and bills."
"Bingo," you said, snapping your figners. "God I hate my life," you muttered. "See you later little brother. Come on Kuma, let's get back," you said, breaking into a sprint towards the shelter.
_________________________________ "I'm late, I'm late, I'm so fucking late!" you muttered, rushing through the halls to get to your first class, ignoring the weird stares and murmurs you were getting.
You, Ken, Kaida, Takeru, and Tooru, had somehow managed to get wrangled into a movie night.
Oikawa had dropped his nephew off, and then gotten sucked into the chaos with you and your brother.
Ken was right, he was a good guy, but he had kept staring at you.
You had felt the pull all night, and you had tried to act normal, but something was off.
You were trying to ignore the way you thought he was cute curled up with your sister and his nephew, the way the dogs were at his feet, tails wagging.
He was attractive, and he was smart, and funny, and good with kids and dogs, and he was determined. He was everything you would ever want . . . but were you?
Were you all he would ever want?
The thought kept you awake through the movie, and once you had fallen asleep, you were dead to the world.
You had stayed up so late that you had slept through your first alarm, then your second, and then your third. You had barely managed to get the other two out the door, and you had completely forgotten about yourself until you got halfway out the door before you realized you were still in your pajamas.
You were late to first period, your mark wasn't covered, and Kyoutani didn't have his books for his third period class.
You were this close to a mental breakdown and it showed.
"Are you alright?" Oikawa asked quietly when you snuck into your seat.
"No," you muttered, stuffing your hand into the folds of your skirt to try and cover the mark.
He kept quiet for the rest of class, but he was waiting for you after class ended.
"Do you need to talk about it?" he asked.
"Talk about what?" you asked, heading for your brother's classroom.
"About how you're raising your brother and sister."
"No," you replied. "I'm handling it."
Oikawa arched an eyebrow and scanned you.
"This doesn't happen every day," you assured him, carding your hand through your hair to try and control it a little more.
"How often do you see your mother?"
"Every couple of days usually."
"What about your father?"
"Every few weeks," you told him. "Look, why do you even care?"
"I . . . I don't know," he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"I don't mean to be rude, but do us both a favor and stop asking questions. You won't like what you dig up," you muttered, walking into Ken's class to drop off the books he forgot.
Oikawa looked like he wanted to say something, but one of his fangirls pulled him aside, saving you the trouble of telling him to get lost.
_______________________________ Nothing really changes over the course of the next months.
You do end up bringing Kuma home, Oikawa stops asking questions, and everyone seems to be happy.
He somehow didn't see your tattoo, or if he did, he decided not to say anything about it.
You become a third year, Ken quits the team and then joins again.
Kaida and Takeru get their Soul Marks, and Takeru meets his soulmate the month after.
Kaida hasn't met hers yet, but you're sure that she will soon.
Takeru keeps coming by, bringing his soulmate, who is now also very good friends with Kaida.
Oikawa and the others are training and becoming stronger.
Ken finds out that his soulmate is Yahaba, who is more than happy to avoid that for now.
But then their tournament is coming up, and they can't avoid it, so they start to work together.
You see Yahaba slam your brother into a wall at the game, and you see Seijoh's defeat by the hands of Karasuno, who move onto Shiritorizawa.
You're there to catch your brother when he cries into your shoulder and you assure him that he did his best, that this is not his fault.
Kaida cries with him, and then she cried with you, even when she doesn't understand why you're crying to begin with.
"I want to talk to you," Oikawa tells you one day when you go into the gym to drop off something Ken forgot.
"About?"
"The fact that we're soulmates."
You choked on your own spit, eyes wide when Oikawa reaches for your hand.
"No."
You said it so forcefully that he actually took a step back.
"No?" he asked, confusion and surprise mixing together on his face.
"No, you aren't going to want this. You aren't going to want me. This isn't going to work," you told him, pulling your hands to your chest.
Your panicking, and you know that you're probably overreacting, but . . . you don't want to trap him with you.
So you do the only logical thing you can thing of.
You run. _______________________ He was chasing you!
He had run after you the second he got over the fact that you were running. You were dodging people, heading for the doors.
Why was he chasing you? Was this so important to him that he was willing to miss practice to talk to you about it?
"(Y/F/N)! Stop, just talk to me," he called, pushing through people, trying to catch up to you.
How far were the doors?
Would you make it?
Suddenly, a hand latched onto yours and you were pulled into an empty classroom and you struggled.
"Stop it," Oikawa hissed. "I just want to talk to you about this."
"Talk about what? The fact that our relationship is pretty much doomed from the start?" you snapped, trying to wrench your wrist away from his fingers, which were like iron.
"What do you mean 'doomed from the start'?" Oikawa asked.
"You pay attention in history, right? The more skin the tattoo takes up the harder the relationship."
"Fuck the history textbooks," he snarled, tightening his grip. "My mother always told me the more skin the tattoo took up the more my soulmate would care for me. The more we would love each other."
You let out a wet chuckle.
"Who's right?" you asked, staring him down as you both stood there, wills clashing as your worlds collided.
“Let’s find out,” he said, moving to grip your hands in his.
“What?” you asked, trying to jerk away.
“I said, let’s find out.”
His brown eyes bored into yours as you stared at each other.
“I want to know, (Y/F/N), if this is something I am going to want. I want to know if this is something you are going to want. We won’t know unless we try. So let’s fine out. Let’s find out together.”
He wasn’t going to let this go, you knew that. He wasn’t going to let this go until he found out.
“Alright.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
_____________________
“Are you sure that you can’t move to Argentina with me? They’re willing to pay for you to come with me,” Tooru said, trying to bribe you.
“I can’t just pack up and move to Argentina, Tooru! What about Ken and Kaida?” you asked, leaning back against his chest to get a better look at him from where you were perched in his lap.
“Hire a babysitter!”
“Tooru!” you chided, hitting his arm lightly. “You know I can’t do that. I have classes starting here in three months. I want to be here for Ken and Kaida until I know that they’re on their feet.”
“But . . . you’ll be so far away,” he moaned, tightening his grip around your waist.
“So? You can still text me every day and you can call me whenever you want,” you told him, kissing his cheek lightly. “Besides, I’ll go to every single game you play against Japan and you can come home for holidays.”
“But . . . what if-?”
“Tooru,” you said, twisting around so you were straddling his hips. “You survived without me until four months ago. You didn’t even know we were soulmates, I think you can survive this. Besides, it’s not like I’m going to stop loving you while you’re gone.”
“You two really can’t keep your hands off each other can you?” Ken asked.
“You can’t say anything little brother,” you retorted, gesturing to where Yahaba was perched in Ken’s lap.
He flushed, but Yahaba chuckled.
“She has a point Ken,” he teased, toying with Ken’s fingers.
“So you really won’t come with me?” Tooru asked.
“You know I can’t. Maybe when I’m out of school and Kaida graduates,” you said, settling back around.
“But that’s so far away,” he whined, burying his face in your neck.
“Doesn’t matter,” you told him. “No matter where you are, what lifetime we’re in, how far apart you think we are, no matter who tries to keep us apart, I will always find a way back to you Tooru. The universe will always find a way to keep us together,” you assured him, taking his hand.
“Promise?”
“I swear it on us,” you confirmed.
“Why us?” he inquired.
“There’s nothing I believe in more than that.”

(un)Confident Invisibility
Hello darlings! Here it is, the last story of Prompt Month!
This story was brought to you by Glenn! Darling, thank you so much for all your support!
Prompt: Callen and Rao have some difficulty with their new magic (Secondhand Souls)
+++
“Okay, so this isn’t… exactly the most precise sort of magic,” Callen said. It wasn’t his first attempt at writing a spell onto his skin, but it was the first time he had tried it with a tattoo, rather than a sharpie. “The guys I’ve been talking to don’t really designate between ‘religious purposes’ and ‘actually does something’ magic.”
“Are we sure we even want to try this?” Rao asked. He wasn’t cautious, exactly, but thing had been a little complicated since Callen started working out his magic. Most sorcerers only had one sort of magic, but , as they were discovering, Callen could do any magic, as long as he could figure out how it worked. A product of their deal, once they sat down to figure it out. “The last time was kind of explosive.”
“This isn’t supposed to be explosive,” Callen assured him. He held up his wrist, which was painstakingly tattooed with a beautiful, curling fern. It had been kind of complicated to get a tattoo needle, and the right inks, and more complicated to get all the ingredients for the spell, but now they were ready to try something new. “If it works, we’re never gonna get busted sneaking around ever again.”
“Unless you happen to get spotted, or someone’s a better spellchucker than you,” Rao pointed out. He was somewhat dismayed to discover that he, the half demon was the good sense of the relationship. That was not what he signed on for. Then again, Callen was a brilliant planner, and was turning out to be even more brilliant with magic. Yes, there were some explosions, but that was pretty normal for a young sorcerer. “Okay, go ahead. I’m ready.”
“Right,” Callen said, and ran a finger over his tattoo, a pinpoint of soft green light on his fingertip. In response, the fern coiled up and out of the tattoo, all made of deep green glass. Mist rippled off it, and rained glowing spores down on Callen’s skin, where they caught and glittered, before vanishing. When they winked out of existence, so did the skin beneath them. In moments, Callen had vanished completely. “Did it work?”
“Well, you’re invisible,” Rao said, somewhat surprised. Callen’s spells didn’t usually go so well on the first run. He focused inward for a minute. “I can still feel you, if you’re wondering. Probably not much magic that will block that.”
“It’s not designed to block you, but we should work on that,” Callen’s voice came out of thin air. He was moving around, according to Rao’s sense of him, but there wasn’t so much as a flicker in the air. “Can you hear me?”
“You’re a chatterbox. Of course I can hear you.”
“When I’m not talking!”
Rao rolled his eyes, but Callen fell silent. The brown grass, long ignored by Callen’s loser father, flattened down here and there, apparently trampled by invisible feet. When Rao tried it himself, the grass rustled and crunched under his boots.
“Looks like it’s sound-blocking too,” he reported to Callen, impressed and pleased. “Good work.”
“Thanks,” Callen said. Rao felt something like concentration through their bond, and then a shot of dismay. “Uh oh.”
“Uh oh?” Rao demanded, not at all happy by the words, and unfortunately familiar with his pact-mate’s occasional lack of caution. Callen might be a brilliant planner, but unless he had a plan down to the second, he had common sense in the negative numbers. How anyone so smart and so clever could also be such a bonehead, Rao wasn’t sure. “What is uh oh?”
“I’m not sure I can turn back.”
“Crap,” Rao muttered, abruptly past ‘uh oh’ and immediately into mild profanity. He would get to the harder stuff if they didn’t manage to turn Callen visible again before his father got home. “Uh, what do we have to fix that?”
“I don’t know,” Callen said. The grass tamped down in a line. Callen was a pacer, especially when he was thinking. “Uh…. Okay, go get a few leaves from the jade plant on the window. It’s supposed to be good for success, so maybe I can translate that to visibility?”
“That seems like a long shot,” Rao told him, but he went and got the plant anyway. It was a sad, half-wilted thing, but it was alive. Rao had been looking after it for a week or two now, and it seemed to be perking back up. “What else?”
“I got some yarrow from the yard,” Callen said. Rao would just have to believe him, since he couldn’t see it himself. He held out the jade plant leaves and felt Callen take them. “It’s for light. Success and light should work, right?”
“Why’re you asking me?” Rao asked with sigh. He moved back to the porch, and the protective barricade of dumpsters that they had rolled over to take the worst of the damage when Callen’s magic went wrong. Fire Rao could deal with, but light magic, they discovered through a series of uncomfortable experiments, was not his friend. “Okay, I’m covered.”
“Right,” Callen told him, sounding determined and somewhat uncertain. “You’ll take Lis if I blow myself up?”
“I know where your cash is, you introduced me to your fake ID guy, and your father doesn’t get home for three more hours,” Rao reassured him as he always did right before their more dangerous attempts. He didn’t actually think Callen was likely to die, but it reassured them both to have a plan in place. “I could be across state lines in forty minutes, and Lis trusts me to take her if we need to run. You’re stalling. Go on.”
“Okay,” Callen sighed, although Rao could tell he was comforted by the reminder of their plan. “Light and success to undo an invisibility spell. First trial.”

Sansa & Beauty - Quotes
RADIANT:
Sansa looked radiant as she walked beside him, but Jon did not like Joffrey's pouty lips or the bored, disdainful way he looked at Winterfell's Great Hall.
A Game of Thrones - Jon I
*-*
COMELY:
"Saffron is very beautiful, I'll have you know. Tall and slim, with big brown eyes and hair like honey."Alayne raised her head. "More beautiful than me?"
Ser Harrold studied her face. "You are comely enough, I grant you. When Lady Anya first told me of this match, I was afraid that you might look like your father."
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I
*-*
EXQUISITE:
"You do look quite exquisite, child," Lady Olenna Tyrell told Sansa when she tottered up to them in a cloth-of-gold gown that must have weighed more than she did. "The wind has been at your hair, though."
A Storm of Swords - Tyrion VIII
*-*
FAIR:
I must ask after Sansa. How else will I find her? She cleared her throat. "Goodwife," she said to the woman on the turnip cart, "perhaps you saw my sister on the road? A young maid, three-and-ten and fair of face, with blue eyes and auburn hair. She may be riding with a drunken knight."
A Feast for Crows - Brienne II
*-*
BEAUTY:
The girl was too young and too plain to be Sansa Stark, but she was of the right age to be the younger sister, and even Lady Catelyn had said that Arya lacked her sister's beauty.
A Feast for Crows - Brienne VII
*-*
Lord Littlefinger kissed her cheek. "With my wits and Cat's beauty, the world will be yours, sweetling. Now off to bed."
A Feast for Crows - Sansa I
*-*
"Had we known such beauty awaited us at the Gates, we would have flown," Ser Roland said. Though his words were addressed to Myranda Royce, he smiled at Alayne as he said them.
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I
*-*
LOVELY:
Sansa Stark looked especially lovely this morning, though her face was as pale as milk.
A Clash of Kings - Tyrion VI
*-*
Sansa closed the shutters and turned sharply away from the window. "You look very lovely today, my lady," Ser Arys said.
A Clash of Kings - Sansa I
*-*
"Leave the colors to me, my lady. You will be pleased, I know you will. You shall have smallclothes and hose as well, kirtles and mantles and cloaks, and all else befitting a . . . a lovely young lady of noble birth."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa II
*-*
When the moonstones hung from Sansa's ears and about her neck, the queen nodded. "Yes. The gods have been kind to you, Sansa. You are a lovely girl. It seems almost obscene to squander such sweet innocence on that gargoyle."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa III
*-*
"My lady," Tyrion said, "you are lovely, make no mistake, but . . . I cannot do this. My father be damned. We will wait. The turn of a moon, a year, a season, however long it takes. Until you have come to know me better, and perhaps to trust me a little." His smile might have been meant to be reassuring, but without a nose it only made him look more grotesque and sinister.
A Storm of Swords - Sansa III
*-*
Her maids were dressing her when Tyrion appeared, Podrick Payne in tow. "You look lovely, Sansa." He turned to his squire. "Pod, be so good as to pour me a cup of wine."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa IV
*-*
And false. Sansa, Shae, all my women … Tysha was the only one who ever loved me. Where do whores go? "A lovely girl," said Tyrion, "and we were joined beneath the eyes of gods and men. It may be that she is lost to me, but until I know that for a certainty I must be true to her."
A Dance with Dragons - Tyrion IX
*-*
"The Lord Protector's daughter," the bald knight announced, all hearty gallantry. He rose ponderously. "And full as lovely as the tales told of her, I see."
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I
*-*
PRETTY:
She frowned down at them with dismay and glanced over to where her sister Sansa sat among the other girls. Sansa's needlework was exquisite. Everyone said so. "Sansa's work is as pretty as she is," Septa Mordane told their lady mother once. "She has such fine, delicate hands."
A Game of Thrones - Arya I
*-*
"He's going to marry her," little Beth said dreamily, hugging herself. "Then Sansa will be queen of all the realm."
Sansa had the grace to blush. She blushed prettily. She did everything prettily, Arya thought with dull resentment.
A Game of Thrones - Arya I
*-*
"Lady," he said, tasting the name. He had never paid much attention to the names the children had picked, but looking at her now, he knew that Sansa had chosen well. She was the smallest of the litter, the prettiest, the most gentle and trusting. She looked at him with bright golden eyes, and he ruffled her thick grey fur.
A Game of Thrones - Eddard III
*-*
A pity Ned Stark had taken his daughters south; elsewise Theon could have tightened his grip on Winterfell by marrying one of them. Sansa was a pretty little thing too, and by now likely even ripe for bedding. But she was a thousand leagues away, in the clutches of the Lannisters. A shame.
A Clash of Kings - Theon IV
*-*
"I will sing it for you gladly."
Sandor Clegane snorted. "Pretty thing, and such a bad liar. A dog can smell a lie, you know. Look around you, and take a good whiff. They're all liars here . . . and every one better than you."
A Clash of Kings - Sansa II
*-*
I have to look pretty, Joff likes me to look pretty, he's always liked me in this gown, this color.
A Clash of Kings - Sansa III
*-*
"Leave her face," Joffrey commanded. "I like her pretty."
A Clash of Kings - Sansa III
*-*
"Didn't you ever have a brother you wanted to kill?" He laughed again. "Or maybe a sister?" He must have seen something in her face then, for he leaned closer. "Sansa. That's it, isn't it? The wolf bitch wants to kill the pretty bird."
A Storm of Swords - Arya IX
*-*
Jaime found himself wondering if Brienne might have passed this way before him. If she thought that Sansa Stark had made for Riverrun . . . Had they encountered other travelers, he might have stopped to ask if any of them had chance to see a pretty maid with auburn hair, or a big ugly one with a face that would curdle milk. But there was no one on the roads but wolves, and their howling held no answers.
A Feast for Crows - Jaime III
*-*
Petyr put a finger under her chin. "That Royce glimpsed this pretty face I do not doubt, but it was one face in a thousand. A man fighting in a tourney has more to concern him than some child in the crowd. And at Winterfell, Sansa was a little girl with auburn hair. My daughter is a maiden tall and fair, and her hair is chestnut. Men see what they expect to see, Alayne."
A Feast for Crows - Alayne I
*-*
Ser Loras had given Sansa Stark a red rose once, but he had never kissed her . . . and no Tyrell would ever kiss Alayne Stone. Pretty as she was, she had been born on the wrong side of the blanket.
A Feast for Crows - Alayne II
*-*
She studied Alayne's face and chest. "You are prettier than me, but my breasts are larger.
A Feast for Crows - Alayne II
*-*
Sansa was the pretty one. He remembered a time when he had thought that Lord Eddard Stark might marry him to Sansa and claim him for a son, but that had only been a child's fancy.
A Dance with Dragons - Reek I
*-*
Petyr put his arm around her. "So he is, but he is Robert's heir as well. Bringing Harry here was the first step in our plan, but now we need to keep him, and only you can do that. He has a weakness for a pretty face, and whose face is prettier than yours? Charm him. Entrance him. Bewitch him."
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I
*-*
BEAUTIFUL:
"Joffrey likes your sister," Jeyne whispered, proud as if she had something to do with it. She was the daughter of Winterfell's steward and Sansa's dearest friend. "He told her she was very beautiful."
A Game of Thrones - Arya I
*-*
Worse, she was beautiful. Sansa had gotten their mother's fine high cheekbones and the thick auburn hair of the Tullys.
A Game of Thrones - Arya I
*-*
When the white horse stopped in front of her, she thought her heart would burst. To the other maidens he had given white roses, but the one he plucked for her was red. "Sweet lady," he said, "no victory is half so beautiful as you." Sansa took the flower timidly, struck dumb by his gallantry.
A Game of Thrones - Sansa II
*-*
"Sweet Sansa," Queen Cersei said, laying a soft hand on her wrist. "Such a beautiful child. I do hope you know how much Joffrey and I love you."
A Game of Thrones - Sansa IV
*-*
She was dressed in mourning, as a sign of respect for the dead king, but she had taken special care to make herself beautiful.
A Game of Thrones - Sansa V
*-*
His smile emboldened her, made her feel beautiful and strong. He does love me, he does.
A Game of Thrones - Sansa V
*-*
"I will need hot water for my bath, please," she told them, "and perfume, and some powder to hide this bruise." The right side of her face was swollen and beginning to ache, but she knew Joffrey would want her to be beautiful.
A Game of Thrones - Sansa VI
*-*
His brow was damp with sweat. "I saw Sansa at the court, the day Tyrion told me his terms. She looked most beautiful, my lady. Perhaps a, a bit wan. Drawn, as it were."
A Clash of Kings - Catelyn VI
*-*
"Sansa was a lady at three, always so courteous and eager to please. She loved nothing so well as tales of knightly valor. Men would say she had my look, but she will grow into a woman far more beautiful than I ever was, you can see that. I often sent away her maid so I could brush her hair myself. She had auburn hair, lighter than mine, and so thick and soft... the red in it would catch the light of the torches and shine like copper..."
A Clash of Kings - Catelyn VII
*-*
As they lurched into motion, Tyrion reclined on an elbow while Sansa sat staring at her hands. She is just as comely as the Tyrell girl. Her hair was a rich autumn auburn, her eyes a deep Tully blue. Grief had given her a haunted, vulnerable look; if anything, it had only made her more beautiful. He wanted to reach her, to break through the armor of her courtesy.
A Storm of Swords - Tyrion VIII
*-*
Tyrion had never seen her look more lovely, yet she wore sorrow on those long satin sleeves. "Lady Sansa," he told her, "you shall be the most beautiful woman in the hall tonight."
A Storm of Swords - Tyrion VIII
*-*
"Ser Loras," she finally managed, "you..  you look so lovely."
He gave her a puzzled smile. "My lady is too kind. And beautiful besides. My sister awaits you eagerly."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa I
*-*
"At the Hand's tourney, don't you remember? You rode a white courser, and your armor was a hundred different kinds of flowers. You gave me a rose. A red rose. You threw white roses to the other girls that day." It made her flush to speak of it. "You said no victory was half as beautiful as me."
Ser Loras gave her a modest smile. "I spoke only a simple truth, that any man with eyes could see."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa I
*-*
She wanted to look beautiful for Willas Tyrell. Even if Dontos was right, and it is Winterfell he wants and not me, he still may come to love me for myself.
A Storm of Swords - Sansa II
*-*
"You are very beautiful, my lady," the seamstress said when she was dressed.
"I am, aren't I?" Sansa giggled, and spun, her skirts swirling around her. "Oh, I am." She could not wait for Willas to see her like this. He will love me, he will, he must... he will forget Winterfell when he sees me, I'll see that he does.
A Storm of Swords - Sansa III
*-*
Tyrion wore a doublet of black velvet covered with golden scrollwork, thigh-high boots that added three inches to his height, a chain of rubies and lions' heads. But the gash across his face was raw and red, and his nose was a hideous scab. "You are very beautiful, Sansa," he told her.
A Storm of Swords - Sansa III
*-*
Ser Kevan told her she was beautiful, Jalabhar Xho said something she did not understand in the Summer Tongue, and Lord Redwyne wished her many fat children and long years of joy. And then the dance brought her face-to-face with Joffrey.
A Storm of Swords - Sansa III
*-*
Littlefinger pointed out a cedar chest under the porthole. "You'll find fresh garb within. Dresses, smallclothes, warm stockings, a cloak. Wool and linen only, I fear. Unworthy of a maid so beautiful, but they'll serve to keep you dry and clean until we can find you something finer."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa V
*-*
"Marillion?" she said, uncertain. "You are... kind to think of me, but.. pray forgive me. I am very tired."
"And very beautiful.
All night I have been making songs for you in my head. A lay for your eyes, a ballad for your lips, a duet to your breasts. I will not sing them, though. They were poor things, unworthy of such beauty." He sat on her bed and put his hand on her leg. "Let me sing to you with my body instead."
She caught a whiff of his breath. "You're drunk."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa VI
*-*
"I wish you could see yourself, my lady. You are so beautiful. You're crusted over with snow like some little bear cub, but your face is flushed and you can scarcely breathe. How long have you been out here? You must be very cold. Let me warm you, Sansa. Take off those gloves, give me your hands."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa VII
*-*
"But you're not, are you? You are Eddard Stark's daughter, and Cat's. But I think you might be even more beautiful than your mother was, when she was your age."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa VII
*-*
"Do you require guarding?" Marillion said lightly. "I am composing a new song, you should know. A song so sweet and sad it will melt even your frozen heart. 'The Roadside Rose,' I mean to call it. About a baseborn girl so beautiful she bewitched every man who laid eyes upon her."
A Storm of Swords - Sansa VII
*-*
"Have you no honor?" her aunt said sharply. "Or do you take me for a fool? You do, don't you? You take me for a fool. Yes, I see that now. I am not a fool. You think you can have any man you want because you're young and beautiful. Don't think I haven't seen the looks you give Marillion.
A Storm of Swords - Sansa VII
*-*
"And you must be the Lord Protector's daughter," she added, as the bucket went rattling back up to the Eyrie. "I had heard that you were beautiful. I see that it is true."
A Feast for Crows - Alayne II
*-*
"So you're brave as well as beautiful," Myranda said to her.
A Feast for Crows - Alayne II
*-*
"Dutiful and beautiful," said an elegant young knight whose thick blond mane cascaded down well past his shoulders.
"Aye," said the second knight, a burly fellow with a thick salt-and-pepper beard, a red nose bulbous with broken veins, and gnarled hands as large as hams. "You left out that part, m'lord."
A Feast for Crows - Alayne II
*-*
"I was never beautiful like Sansa, but they all said I was pretty. Does Lord Ramsay think I am pretty?"
A Dance with Dragons - The Prince of Winterfell
*-*
"It was sweet," lied Tyrion, "but I am married. She was with me at the feast, you may remember her. Lady Sansa."
"Was she your wife? She … she was very beautiful …"
A Dance with Dragons - Tyrion IX
*-*
Not to be outdone, the pimply knight hopped up and said, "Ser Ossifer speaks truly, you are the most beautiful maid in all the Seven Kingdoms."
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I
*-*
"You will be the most beautiful woman in the hall tonight, as lovely as your lady mother at your age. I cannot seat you on the dais, but you'll have a place of honor above the salt and underneath a wall sconce. The fire will be shining in your hair, so everyone will see how fair of face you are. Keep a good long spoon on hand to beat the squires off, sweetling. You will not want green boys underfoot when the knights come round to beg you for your favor."
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I
*-*
"A beautiful bastard, and the Lord Protector's daughter." Petyr drew her close and kissed her on both cheeks. "The night belongs to you, sweetling, Remember that, always."
The Winds of Winter - Alayne I

@digitalstowaway I want my Phoenix fic pls heres chapter two
{AN: Thank you everyone for the reviews of chapter one! They were really positive! :DD Here’s chapter two!}
When Y/N woke up, she found she gave birth to her and Klavier’s child. Their daughter was in her arms.
The baby was beautiful.
“She looks so beautiful.” Y/N breathed out.
“She looks just like you.” Klavier said. He smiled,
Y/N thought that was a lie, because she did not look that special. She thought she looked very ordinary.
“Don’t think of yourself like that. You are so beautiful and special to me.” Klavier ran his fingers through Y/N’s hair (He could read minds because he was a vampire).
“How did you know what I was thinking about?”
“I’m a vampire, Y/N. I can read minds.”
They stared at each other. Klavier’s ruby orbs seemed to be searching for a sign. She gave it.
They kissed.
The baby started crying, Y/N became worried.
“What if something happens to her? What if there’s something wrong.”
“If something is wrong. We will call Opal Fae to take care of it.” Klavier said, dialing a number on his phone.
Opal Fae was a goth witch. She had long brown hair under a black sunhat and a purple dress that reached her midthigh. She had a magatama around her neck. {A/N: It’s a religious object, I linked the outfit here! [pinterest link attached]}
“Your baby is a demon.”
“What?” Y/N gasped.
“How is that possible?” Klavier questioned, his fire truck orbs looking frantic. “
His blonde hair was unravelled, flowing in locks across his bare chest.
“Baby, what are we going to do?” Y/N looked down at the child in her arms. The baby looked so peaceful sleeping.
Opal took off her sunglasses to reveal pink and purple eyes, “your baby will be a powerful demon. And help you lead your clans. Please, call me if you ever need anything.”
She left.
Klavier turned and said, “Opal is a very powerful witch. She is the best at spells and potions and has a dragon that she flies around on but is invisible to the human eye because she doesn’t want normal humans to see it. If anyone can help us, it’s her.”
Y/N looked off in the direction Opal went, “She was also very pretty. Much prettier than me…”
“Perhaps,” Klavier stated.
“I love you.” Klavier said.
“I love you too, Klavier.” Y/N said.
Y/N ran from the room, in tears. This was all too much. Her baby was a demon, like her father (who was also a vampire). She herself was a werewolf, and the full moon was coming soon. She wasn’t sure how much more of this she could take.
Klavier found her in their bedroom. “What’s wrong, love?” He asked. He moved the baby to his other hand.
“It’s all so much for me.”
“We should go to the park.” Klaveir put the baby in a stroller.
“Are you allowed in the sunlight? You are a vampire.”
“No. I am not.” Klavier carried the stroller to the park.
They sat on a bench. The wind blew softly. Y/N but her head on Klavier’s shoulder, and Kalveir put his arm around her shoulders.
“We should name her Daryan.” Y/N said at last.
“Yes. In respect.” Klavier agreed.
Daryan (their daughter) reached up towards them. Y/N took Daryan (their daughter) out of the stroller and placed her between them.
Opal came up to them and asked if they wanted her to take a picture.
“Please do, Opal!” They said.
Opal raised her hands and a clicking noise happened.
“As a witch, I am able to take pictures without a camera at any time. I have to go back home on my dragon now.”
“You’re so cool, Pearl.” Klavier said.
“I know.” Opal said, and went home on her dragon.
At their mansion, Klavier and Y/N went to the baby’s room to put her to bed. It was a big room, full of toys and books with purple and pink walls and a blue carpet.
“Opal gave the baby their own pet dragon.” Klavier said, producing it.
“It is so cute.” Y/N said, reaching out to pet it.
The dragon crooned.
Klavier and Y/N looked over at their sleeping daughter, and then at each other.
“Should we have another baby?” Klavier asked.
“Yes, soon.” Y/N sighed.
“We will get through this together, Y/N. With our baby by our side to help us lead our clans.”
“Our baby who is a demon.” Y/N smiled, it was no longer scary.

Fairy Tail: The Celestial Journey
                              Chapter 1: The Journey Begins
It’s been one month since the war with tartaros. Magnolia has been busy rebuilding and with help from the generous amount of jewel the king has given to all those affected, almost a quarter of the town has been rebuilt.
The guild on the other hand was rebuilt in under five days thanks to the insane workload Erza forced on everyone. The craziest thing wasn’t even that. The master thought of disbanding the guild, the idea almost gave me a heart attack, But I’m glad Master changed his mind after he realized how sad everyone would be if that happened.
Everyone seems to be going back to their daily routines but some wounds are too deep to heal. It’s just not the same even now. But I’m sure things will get better soon.
I love you mama. I will talk again soon.
Lucy then put the finishing touches on the letter and put it away for safekeeping inside one of her top cabinets opposite her bed.
After having a nice warm shower Lucy was having a hard time deciding what to wear.
“I know, He can help me. Open! Gate of the little dog! Plue!” Lucy chanted as she pointed her key in the air.
In a puff of smoke what looked like to be a short, carrot nosed dog puffed into existence.
“Hmm. I haven’t worn this one in a long time, what do you think Plue?” She asked her little celestial spirit.  The small little creature walked over to over a dozen outfits sitting on her bed and pointed to a blue and white outfit.
Lucy looked at the outfit Plue had chosen and gave him a big hug saying; “I knew you could help me. Thank you Plue.” Shortly after in another puff of smoke the spirit was gone.
Lucy was walking down the road to the newly rebuilt guild hall wearing a blue shirt, a short, white skirt, long brown leggings and a black sleeve with her hair tied into a long ponytail.
Before she knew it Lucy was already at the guild hall. She pushed the doors open to find the usual scenes. People drinking merrily, some checking the request board and fiends chatting.
Lucy went to sit down at an empty table right near the entrance. She smiled at all the commotion around her. Thinking of better times.
“Oh Lucy! It’s so nice to see you at the guild again. You haven’t been here for weeks.” Mirajane said as she walked over to lucy’s table.
“Yeah, it’s good to be back.” Lucy murmured looking down at the table.
“Is there anything I can order for you, Lucy?” Mirajane asked.
Lucy murmured “No thanks, mira.”
“Well, if you need anything just call.” Mirajane said as she walked off to serve another person.
Lucy looked around the guild for Natsu and Happy hoping that they could go on a mission together.
“It’s just been so long.” She said to herself. Suddenly, something caught her attention in the corner of her eye.
“Erza! We’ve been waiting 30 minutes for our beer and it’s still not here! You’re a worse waitress than Kinana!” Wakaba shouted in a semi drunken state.
“Uh, bud I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Macao replied to his long-time friend.
Just hearing the remarks by Wakaba, Erza rushed over to the table where he was seated, and like a tiger killing its prey Erza instantly jumped Wakaba.
“If it’s alcohol you want then it’s alcohol you’ll get!” Erza said as she started to force down a whole barrel of alcohol down his throat.
Lucy watched on in confusion and worry, glad to be sitting a few tables back.
“Erza being a waitress is a pretty scary thing.” Lucy nervously thought to herself.
Getting tired of sitting around Lucy got up from her seat and walked over to the request board.
“Even if I can’t go on missions with Natsu and Happy, I still need to pay rent.”
Lucy scanned the request board looking for a job suitable for both herself and her spirits. Unfortunately, she could only find dangerous jobs that would require a three-person team.
Suddenly a familiar flying, blue cat flew into the guild hall and grabbed a handful of flyers.
Lucy looked up above in surprise. “Happy it’s you! I haven’t seen you and Natsu in ages. How has he been?”
Happy looked down to see Lucy staring up at him. “I can’t talk now, Lucy! Got work to do!”
Lucy murmured, looking at the floor. “Of course, you do.”
Hours later, Lucy was working on the finishing touches on another two pages of her novel. Feeling tired, she stretched her arms and decided it was time to go to bed.
Lucy signed, lying in bed. “I spent a whole day at the guild and I didn’t even get a single job, and Rent is coming up soon too. Maybe tomorrow I might find something.”
As Lucy slept in her bed, a dream started to form in her mind.
“Puny human, no mortal can stand up to the might of the four Celestial Gods.”
“I don’t care! I need to do this so I can save my family.”
“Draco! Deal with this pest for me.”
“Yes, my lord.”
A hulking monster appeared as if out of nowhere, standing down Natsu.
“So, you’re the Celestial god everyone’s been talking about, huh?” Natsu said in a sarcastic tone.
“Natsu! Get away, you’ll die!” Lucy screamed at the top of her lungs.
The creature simply attacked, paying no attention to Lucy’s words.
“Celestial God Dragon… Roar!”
In a split second a wave of fire that felt as hot as the sun engulfed Natsu, and a split second later there was nothing left but ash.
Suddenly Lucy shot awake, she looked around, realizing she was safe in her own bed.
“It was just a dream, then?”
Lucy realized her body was shaking in fear, tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Natsu…”
Lucy was sitting by the bar, drinking a coffee to try to keep herself awake. She didn’t get much sleep after she awoke from her nightmare.
“Oi Lucy! Watcha doing?” Natsu said as he draped his arm around lucy’s neck and chest, a little too close for comfort.
Lucy turned around and saw Natsu. “Natsu, it’s been so long. What have you been doing?”
Natsu looked Lucy in her eyes and said; “Oh nothing! Just missions and stuff. I need to get stronger and stronger!”
Lucy’s face lit up, and an idea popped into her head. “Since you’re here, how about we go on a mission together?”
“Sounds like a good idea.”
“Happy! Find a flyer for Lucy and us.” Natsu yelled at the top of his lungs.
“Aye sir!” Happy replied.
A large shard of ice suddenly shot through the air and hit Natsu in the head.
“What the hell was that?” Natsu yelled.
“Hey, flame brain! Leave a few jobs for the rest of us will ya!” Gray yelled.
“Huh?” Natsu grunted.
“You’re taking all the damn jobs in the guild, soon enough there won’t be any left.” Gray replied.
Natsu jumped up from his seat and yelled; “Ya got a problem with that, popsicle man!”
Gray was starting to get visibly annoyed at Natsu’s ignorance. “You know I do, weren’t you listening, dumbass.”
Natsu then suddenly punched Gray and the force of the impact destroyed a table.
“Oh, it’s on now, Natsu!” Gray yelled.
Soon enough the entire guild was their battleground, getting other wizards caught up in their brawl.
Lucy looked at them both and murmured; “They never learn, do they?”
“I feel so tired.” Lucy said as she started to yawn. “I think I’ll just rest here for a bit, Mira.”
“Don’t sleep too long.” Mira replied.
Lucy started to drift off to sleep, the guild’s noise acting as a lullaby to her.
Lucy suddenly found herself in a very familiar place. It was her father’s old mansion. She started to stroll through the lovely garden out front when suddenly she was pulled away and dragged into a terrible memory.
It was raining.
Everyone was dressed in black.
Suddenly, Lucy knew what the memory was.
It was her mother’s funeral. When Lucy looked around, she realized she was her child like self again. Small and defenseless. The wails of pain and agony were a chorus of tears Lucy wished she never had to remember again.
Then, suddenly, the dream changed. Lucy was standing in shallow water, now an adult again.
“Fix the keys… the land of the spirits.”
Lucy heard a familiar voice.
“Who are you? Why do you sound like my…”?
A figure appeared in the distance. Lucy ran to it. It was Layla.
“Mum?” Lucy murmured.
The figure turned its head to reveal a half rotting corpse, a small smile etched on its face.
  “AAAHHH!!”
Lucy suddenly shot awake and her scream stopped the guild, as if everyone was frozen.
Natsu and Gray stopped fighting, Erza stopped eating her cake, all to look at Lucy.
Natsu ran over to Lucy as fast as he could, with Happy flying behind him, he ran over to the stool Lucy was sitting on.
“Mama?” Lucy said as she looked at Natsu, tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Oi Lucy! Are you alright?” Natsu asked, shocked at her scream.
Lucy looked at Natsu and Happy.
She murmured; “I’m fine, I just… had a dream.
“You had us all worried sick. Are you sure you’ll alright?” Natsu questioned.
“I’m fine, really I am.” Lucy said.
Happy was floating above Lucy’s head. “Was it about tasty fish?”
Lucy slightly laughed. “No happy, it’s not about tasty fish.”
“Oh! I betcha it was about Fighting.” Natsu yelled.
“No, fish!” happy replied.
“Fighting!”
“Fish!”
Lucy walked over to master, who was sitting on one of the tables nearby.
“I’m sorry master. I’m sorry everyone. I didn’t mean to worry you all.” Lucy said sadly.
Makarov looked at Lucy with a worried look.
“There’s no need to worry, my child. We all have bad days, but the important thing is to always remember that tomorrow will be better. So, keep your head held high, for that is the Fairy Tail way.” Makarov said.
Lucy looked at the ground, not able to look master in the face. Whether that was out of shame or cowardice she didn’t know.
Moments after Makarov’s talk the guild started to liven up again, becoming its old rowdy self.
“I think I need to go home.” Lucy said.
Makarov watched Lucy walk out of the guild with concern plastered on his face. Lucy looked like she was in a haze.
Lucy barely made it home to her apartment. Walking home in a daze.
As soon Lucy entered her home, she started to undress.
“I need a hot shower… I’ll fell bet…”
She suddenly collapsed on the floor.
Lucy awoke in the same void of shallow water as before. She saw the same thing parading around as her mother.
“Who are you? Answer me! Lucy shouted nervously at the figure.
The figure moved and as it turned its head, Lucy anticipated the horrific figure from earlier. But it never came. All she saw was the beautiful face of her mother.
“Lucy, I have not seen you in years. You have grown so much since I last saw you.” Layla said.
“I don’t understand any of this, what’s going on?” Lucy asked her mother.
Layla looked at Lucy with sadness on her face.
I have been trying to contact you, I have a mission for you, a way to save Aquarius.
Lucy was shocked, she couldn’t believe what she heard.
“Let me explain, my daughter.” Layla said.
“In the northern continent, in ancient times a meteor hit and devastated the landscape, however since that day, that place has become a wellspring of power for celestial spirit wizards. Go to the celestial steppe and you will find a blacksmith that can fix any key, even celestial keys.” Layla Stated.
Lucy tried to run closer to her mother but no matter how close she got Layla would always be out of reach. “How do you know all this? Can I even trust you?”
Layla looked at her daughter with sad eyes.
“Of course, you can trust me, I’m your mother. All will be explained soon, just know that I love you, lucky Lucy.” Layla smiled and then disappeared.
Lucy woke up from her dream, determined to make it a reality.
“I’ll be with you soon, Aquarius. Just hold on a little more.” Said Lucy.
The next day Happy and Natsu were standing by the request board in the guild. They had found the perfect job for Lucy.
“I’m sure Lucy would loooove this one!” Happy yelled, with the flyer in his paws.
“I wouldn’t miss seeing Lucy looking like that for the world.” Natsu said as he grinned mischievously.
Natsu ran out the guild’s doors as fast as he could with Happy flying not far too behind.
“Hey Lucy! Me and Happy found a job that you’d really like. It pays well.” Natsu Yelled outside Lucy’s apartment window. The flyer moving in the wind.
There was a silence for a moment.
“Is Lucy not home?” happy asked.
“Nah, she’s just ignoring me. Watch.” Natsu said as he jumped from the ground to the window sill outside Lucy’s window.
Natsu pulled the wooden frame up and hoped inside, with happy flying in after him.
“She’s not here.” Said Happy, looking around.
“Well, she’s gotta be. Let’s have a look around.” Natsu told Happy.
“She’s not in here.” Happy said as he lifted up the lid for a cookie jar.
Natsu grinned. “I know where you are. I’m coming in!” Natsu ripped the shower curtain off its rod expecting to see a naked Lucy.
“Huh, she’s not even here?”
Happy flew right into Natsu’s arms with tears in his eyes. “I looked around everywhere and Lucy isn’t here. Is she okay?”
“I dunno, bud.” Natsu replied. “But something is wrong.”
“Master!”
Natsu burst through the guild hall as loud as a bull and ran up to Makarov, who was sitting on the bar top.
“What is it my boy.” Makarov asked.
Everyone looked at Natsu in confusion. Breathing heavily from running to the guild, Natsu and Happy were trying to regain their breath. “It’s…Lucy…she’s… gone!”
“Hmm, what do you mean by that Natsu.” Makarov said.
“Lucy was here and then she was gone and I can’t find her anywhere.” Natsu said quickly, panicking.
“Calm down first Natsu.” Erza replied, who was standing to the right of Makarov.
After waiting a minute for Natsu to catch his breath, he finally spoke;
“I went to Lucy’s place to tell her me and Happy had a job for her to do, But I couldn’t find her anywhere. Then we looked around Magnola hoping to find her scent, but nothing. It’s like she just disappeared.”
“Well, this is troubling.” The master said.
“This is not like Lucy at all. She can be clumsy but she wouldn’t just leave like that.” Erza said.
“Could this be an enemy targeting Lucy?” Juvia chimed in.
“It’s a possibility. After what we went through fighting Tartaros I wouldn’t be shocked if someone wanted revenge.” Gray pondered.
For a moment Makarov closed his eyes and meditated on the news.
“We’ll send out a search party to look for Lucy. Natsu, Gray, Erza, Juvia and Wendy, you all will form a search party and look for Lucy. Also, we will use your telepathy, Warren to try and locate her as well.” Master Makarov announced.
Natsu was grinding his teeth and had his fists clenched, an aura of anger surrounding him.
“Don’t worry Lucy, we’ll get you back for sure. You can count on it.”
It was one whole week after Lucy disappeared and everyone was low on spirits. The guild was as busy as ever, but it had a tinge of sadness in the air.
One whole week of searching all over Fiore and nothing showed up, not even a single hint.
Suddenly a strange, fat woman walked in the guild hall wearing Lucy’s old outfits with a wagon filled with boxes of clothes and other items.
“Isn’t that the landlady Lucy rented from?” Gray asked, pointing to the guild’s doors.
“The Landlady, why would she be here? Erza questioned.
“Is this the place where Lucy Heartfilia works?” The woman yelled.
“Yes, why?” Gray Asked.
“That brat went up and left, not even paying the rent she owes me, she left all her crap at my apartment too, So I’m dumping it here.” The woman ranted.
Natsu walked up to the landlady, looking at her with disgust. “Lucy always paid her rent on time. She always panicked about getting kicked out. This isn’t like her.”
“Well, your friend doesn’t give a crap anymore, that’s for sure.” The landlady said as she pushed all of Lucy’s belongings off the wagon and onto the floor.
Natsu stood there, clenching his fists in anger.
As the landlady started to walk out the door, she threw a letter on the ground.
“Oh, and she left this too.”
“A letter?” Natsu said as he picked it up and opened it.
Natsu couldn’t believe what he read. His hands started to shake.
“Natsu, please read aloud the letter, for all of us.” Erza said.
Dear Natsu.
“It saddens me to say this but, I’m leaving on a journey, one that is more important to me than you could ever imagine. I don’t know how long I will be gone; it could be a month or it could be a year or two.
I wish I could have stayed in the guild longer, but don’t worry, I will always be in your hearts and I will always be a member of Fairy Tail.
If you’re reading this, Natsu, then it means that I have already crossed the borders of Fiore. I will be sending this letter to my apartment, so if you ever break in be sure to read it.
Sincerely,
Lucy.
A horse drawn carriage pulled up to a stop on near the edge of a mountain. The driver rubbing his cold hands together to try to heat them.
“I’m sorry miss, but this is as far as I can take you. The blizzard is just too strong.”
A slender, young woman jumped out of the carriage and said; “It’s okay, thank you for taking me this far.” She threw a bag filled with jewel to the driver.
“Nice doing business with ya!” The driver said as he directed his horse the way they came.
Lucy fixed her scarf closer to her neck for warmth. She looked off over into the distance, everything was a flurry of white.
“I’ve finally made it to the northern continent. It looks like my journey starts now.”

Love Doesn’t Do Encores Ch13 Onto Hammerlocke- I Mean Stow-On-Side
The two of you left. Heading off down the trail Hop directed you before rushing off to take on Bede and spend some time in the Wild Area as planned. You hoped Victor would be able to keep him out of trouble and from fighting with Bede. As much as you wanted to stick together and were honestly curious to see how that battle would play out, you couldn't just let Gloria skidaddle off by herself and she was dead set on heading to Hammerlocke whether you liked it or not...Well not Hammerlocke exactly. She wanted to go to the town of Stow-On-Side, to challenge with Fighting Type Gym, Hammerlocke just happened to be along the way. A pit stop of sorts if you will. And when down to it you were pretty curious now yourself about this place. From what Gloria was babbling about happily about it, Hammerlocke wasn't only just home to the famous Dragon Gym Leader and his gym, but one of the main power plants in Galar owned by the Chairman himself. Hey. Sonia mentioned something about the Chairman having to do something with the power supply of Galar.
"So how will we know when we get there?," you asked after you two had crossed Motostoke's bridge.
"Oh. It'll be easy. It's not as big of a place as people think and not a lot of people live there since it's mostly just a single stadium and power plant run by the Chairman so not a lot of people go in and out either. Raihan's usually on long trips this early in the year since he never battles anyone who hasn't obtained everyone else's badge. But usually barely anyone gets to battle him because Kabu wittles most out and it usually takes a long time to get that amount anyways. Sooo...We actually might NOT see him there if he's out n' about," she explained. Which also had you sighing in relief, from what she mentioned before you were a bit iffy about being flirted with by a video game character even if he was a real person in whatever reality you were in right now. "In fact...the Chairman's pretty strict when it comes to who gets in too. Only gym challengers who collected at least three badges are allowed in to visit even."
You rose a brow. "So, in order to battle Raihan you need all the badges from the other gym leaders, but in order to actually get into the city you have to get three badges? Seems a bit stricter than needed."
She shrugged. "It's supposed to motivate us to work harder I think. But we don't have to worry! I already got three badges so they should let us in. We'll know it when we see the place since it looks a lot like a castle!"
A castle? Well then that should be easy to spot at least. You had no idea how long it actually took to get there but you both soon fell into that familiar pattern of walking all day, pitching the tent, sleeping, then putting the tent away, and continue walking of course. You lost count after the third or fourth day of doing it as by now it had become a rather used to routine of yours. And of course eating your fill of whatever bland tasting foods you both had packed unless you were lucky enough to stumble upon another berry tree that your drizzilie eagerly climbed up and ate from. You were glad despite it's evolution that it's hunger hadn't increased too much, usually it would much rather sleep away in your pack as your walked or watched the world slowly go by. Tell you one thing, your back and shoulders sure weren't enjoying the new found experience of walking with even more extra weight added to yourself. Your body was easily more tired and sore by the end of each day and your sleeping was more deep, luckily Gloria now didn't seem to mind waiting and letting you sleep in now. Every new morning you found her outside the tent intently looking around the dirt roads you were following and guessed that she must've been waiting for her brother and best friend to catch up as they promised they would. You two hadn't seen or heard any sign of them in the days you've been traveling but neither of you were worried too much. You had a feeling you'd see them again if the game's story was being played out like it was, but you couldn't shake the feeling in the back of your head that something was going to happen sometime soon. You just wished you could remember what it was. Along the way the two of you passed one or two small towns on your way there and had momentarily stopped to restock your food replies but didn't find any sign of the two boys or motels to stay at. So you two kept on walking and camping as you got closer and closer to Hammerlocke according to that rotom inside Glory's phone. And then you two FINALLY saw it on the horizon, right after you managed to walk past a couple of trees that blocked your view of it.
Gloria pointed excitedly. "LOOK!! THERE IT IS!!" You glanced where she was pointed and even you had to blink, from far away it DID kinda look like a castle with what you could make out from some high walls and a few towers from your spot far away. She quickly grabbed your hand and gave a tug as encouragement to keep going. "C'mon we're almost there! I wanna see if the boys are there."
You wasted no time in complying in her request, after all you wanted to get there too and rest your aching feet thanks to mister water balloon lounging on your back. You were ready to just rest up for a while, but you persisted in increasing your pace for Gloria's sake as she seemed to gain a new and excited spring in her step at the promise of meeting back up with her crew. Well you couldn't really blame her for wanting to see them again. You yourself were curious about what happened between now and when you all left Motostoke some days ago. It took maybe one or two hours of you two walking to finally reach the 'town', and you had to say....it looked more like a giant building as far as you were concerned. The whole thing was MASSIVE and made from black and dark grey stones, the entrance literally being carved to look like some kind of dragon you had to pass through to get into the inner city. Gotta say. You were a fan of the design. It breathed the kind of Place a Dragon Type Gym Leader would live and work. As you two got closer (and noticed just how big it all was) you noticed that some man wearing the same white uniform and sunglasses as any other Gym Leader employees was standing in the shade of the steps leading up to Motostoke. His gaze laser focused on the two of you as you approuched. Shouldering up his body and holding out a hand towards the both of you as Gloria made it first to the first two steps of the Hammerlocke entrance way.
"Excuse me," he asked, "Are either of you two Gym Challengers? Only challengers with three or more badges may enter Hammerlocke for the duration of the Gym Challenge."
"I am!," Gloria confirmed before slinging that big old brown backpack of hers off her shoulders and you both watched as she opened and rummaged around in it. Presumably to get her badges for the man.
"Ah, a gym challenger. Allow me to check your gym badges, please young lady." he held his hand out to her expectantly and after a moment Gloria held out her badge circle to him containing the three badges she won and placed onto it so far. The man took them from her and you two waited patiently as he hummed and brought it up to his face to carefully examine. "Let's see here. The grass badge, the water badge, and the fire badge." After a moment longer he nodded and handed the circle back to her. "It's confirmed that you've defeated three gym leaders including the leader of Motostoke no doubt. You may enter. I wish you the best of luck in your future battles, Miss."
"Thanks!" She quickly took it from him and stuffed the thing back into her pack as the man looked back up.
"Oh, it's you!," he said, "The boss told me you were coming in today but I wasn't expecting you so early this morning."
"Naturally." Gloria froze at the voice and you turned around at the familiar male sounding voice. And your eyes widened as Bede just casually strolled up to the steps as well, "I'm never late to any meeting with the Chairman or the like. He doesn't like to be kept waiting-" He paused. Lavender eyes going wide as soon as he saw you but then went into a scowl as soon as Gloria turned around to scowl at him. "Oh, it's you...."
"Yeah?," she asked daring him to answer, pushing the lid on her pack closed and slinging it back over her shoulders. "Surprised ya ain't all frazzled like lint from Hop's battle with ya."
He scoffed. "Oh yes. I almost forgotten about him. You see...I doubt Hop will be coming. It's only natural."
She paused and even you rose a brow as Bede reached into one of the giant pockets of his. "....What are you talking about?"
"Ha! After such a humiliating defeat, there's no way he could look the Champion in the eyes. Here just look at the gym badges I've already won." He held up his own badge circle with coincidentally the same badges as Gloria up to the man who nodded at him. "I'm sure he'll withdraw from the challenge."
"Thank you, Challenger Bede. I can confirm you have the required badges."
"Anyway," He put the badge circle back into his giant pocket, "I have a meeting with the Chairman so I must excuse myself-" Bede leaned back as Gloria suddenly leaned forward at him with a glare.
"WHAT. Did. You. DO?," she demanded.
He blinked at her before scowling himself and (seemingly able to grow a more resistance to her anger from last time) brushed himself off. "I didn't do anything to him. I just simply beat Hop after all that confidence he spewed back at Motostoke."
"Oh no no no no. You did something else didn't ya? What did ya say to him?"
"The truth. Nothing more, nothing less."
"Why I-"
Gloria was suddenly pulled back by you with a confused yelp and even Bede paused when you gave him a glare. The type that a mother would a scold a child with that every kid could relate to seeing one time or another. "Bede." He paused wide eyed at you. "Go on to the Chairman. You don't want to be late." Gloria looked up at you even more confused at your calm tone but Bede made no time to waste as he snapped his head from you and quickly sped walked the stairs as they both of you watched. After he disappeared from your view completely, you let Gloria go with a look. "Hey. Are you alright?"
After a moment she nodded. "Yeah. But what did ya do that for? I had him right there itchin' for a battle."
"Remember what Victor said. You can't just pick a fight with him especially if the Chairman's here. I already had to apologize to him, so let's keep things civil. Ok?"
She huffed. "He's the bloody one who started it."
"I know. But let's let it go for now. Besides, if Bede could catch up to us this fast from Motostoke that means the others could too right?" You saw her perk up immediately at the propsition and you smiled, nodding towards the entrance way. "Come on. Let's go have a look around and see what's going on?"
She quickly agreed and together you two entered the darkened tunnel beyond the stairs. At the other end of the short tunnel was light and as the two of you exited, you gaped up in aw at the side before you. Before you was the biggest stone structure you had ever seen!! Surrounded by two other stone structures that looked oddly like wings in a way. It certainly screamed castle by it's magnificence. Everywhere you looked was a few houses and buildings all made from the same black-dark grey stones with some painted a bright shimmering gold in some places that reflected the sunlight to make it gleam. The place had it's OWN TOWN INSIDE OF ITS OWN WALLS and A FREAKING DRAW BRIDGE!!
".....I thought you said this place was just a stadium and power plant," you said after a moment to take it all in.
"I....guess they must've expanded from when Lee told me about this place." She looked around. "Where should we look first?"
"The Pokemon Center," you said without hesitation, "It's been a while since you had your pokemon looked at right? Plus it's a nice place to start that has seats and ac."
Luckily she agreed and it wasn't too long to find either since the center was literally right next to the entrance. The boys weren't there but you got to rest your legs for at least twenty peaceful minutes of relief, and Gloria was able to get her pokemon checked over. And Drizzilie as well since after what happened in Motostoke, you wanted to make sure that your pokemon was doing fine considering it's change, but the Nurse Joy assured you that he was totally fine and that it was indeed just normal Drizzilie nature to act like this. Thank goodness. You two (more like three after your Drizzilie noticed and repeated patted your shoulder until you gave in-) also got drinks from the man who was selling berry juice and such behind his counter at the center, tasted sour but it was nice at least. After that Gloria suggested you both walk around the town a little bit to see if you could spot the two of them. You didn't have any better ideas so you figured why not. It couldn't hurt to look around. Starting as soon as you two left the center, you both headed towards the right side of the town. There was around what you could tell was maybe about a good twenty or thirty houses that looked like the regular kind of space someone would live in so it didn't take long for you two to comb the streets of them with no signs of the two in sight. There was also the train station and when you went up a different path on the right side of Hammerlocke it lead to a dead end with a single school building and a giant statue of a pokeball.
You sighed aching feeling starting to return in your feet. "Man. They aren't here either are! ...Makes sense since I don't think they'd go to this school."
"No," Gloria agreed but perked up seeing the giant bronze statue of the pokeball and walking up to it, "Buuuut I heard a legend about the Hammerlocke Statue. They say if you touch it you'll be able to catch pokemon better. Can't hurt ta give it a wack."
You chuckled. "Go for it. You wouldn't have anything to lose after all." You watched as she smiled and with a giant grin slapped her hand down on the statue as it gave a soft thud sound where her hand made contact- "AH!?" You suddenly lurched forward from the force of your Drizzilie as it gave out the loudest sound of terror you ever heard coming out of it even when it was a sobble and scramble to hide itself into your pack completely. You nearly fell onto your face stumbling but by some miracle didn't fall down...before snapping your head around to your shivering back pack. "HEY! Drizzilie what's the big deal?!"
...Gloria blinked. "What just happened?"
You shook your head. "The heck if I know. He acted like he saw a ghost or something-"
"H-Hello there," a weak voice called out. Gloria yelped and whirled around behind her at the sudden voice and you also looked. ...Brows suddenly widening in surprise as a little girl who couldn't have looked older than six, seven, or eight years old tops shyly came out from behind the statue with something in her hand. But it wasn't that that surprised you. She wore an old fashioned little girl's dress you'd expected a little girl back in the 1950's to wear and short black hair, but what really had you staring was her skin which looked ghastly pale against her bright dress and dark hair. With bags under her very tired looking eyes, as if she was sick with a fever. "You look like someone I might trust." Her voice although small typical for a girl her age, sounded lightly raspy, and weak. Matching her sick appearance.
The two of you exchanged a look for a moment before Gloria knelt down to get eye level with the tired looking girl. "Hey there wee las." She said with a soft voice. "Are ye lost? What do you need help with?" Silently, she held up the thing in her hand which you finally noticed was a letter. A very OLD looking letter as the paper looked yellowed and the wax seal on it looked about as brittle as sand. She looked at it for a moment before slowly taking it from her. "What's this?"
"You see, there's I fancy and I....I...I've written him a love letter."
"....Aw! Did ye now?" She smiled. "That's so bloody sweet of you."
The girl nodded. "Do you think you might deliver it for me?"
Gloria immediately nodded. "Of course I will!"
"Really? Oh thank you thank you!," the little girl smiled brightly despite her tired appearance, "I'm so glad I found someone like you to help me!"
"By the way," you asked looking around. You didn't see any grown ups around. Where were her parents?, "What's your name?"
"My name is Paula. Here you go! This is the letter I want you to deliver!" She pushed Gloria's hand holding the letter towards her and you thought you saw Gloria pause for a moment blinking..Before she slowly stood up and held out the letter to you to look at. "Deliver it to Frank, won't you? Frank lives in Bellonlea. That's who you want."
You both gave each other a look as Gloria spoke. "Bellonlea? That's a long way from here."
You nodded. "Hey Paula. Where's your pare-" You froze. Absolutely froze. And when Gloria looked too she blinked...Before looking around. ..And you whipped around yourself. Paula. Who had just been standing in front of you less than five seconds ago. WAS. GONE. There weren't any signs of her leaving and no footsteps you heard. Gloria event stopped to walk around the statue but came out the other side alone...and the both of you stared at one another. ".....Where did she go?"
Gloria shrugged. "I dunno man." Her foot tapped the spot where Paula was just standing. "She was literally standing right here a minute ago. Her touch was so cold. Did ya see her leave?"
"No. Did you?" She shook her head no again. Leaving the both of you standing there with nothing but the letter in Gloria's hand as proof of her even existing.....Until you pointed back the way you came. "Come on. Let's go check the other side of town for the guys." You said hoping to get away from the awkward tention.
You two quickly left the area with Gloria slipping the letter into her pack as you did, and off to the left side of the town you went. Passing the center as you did. There was at least another twenty-thirty houses, an antique store, a small gym, a barber shop, a cafe, and a clothes store like back in Postwick. But still no signs of the guys. And then there was something called 'The Vault' that was being guarded by some men but you two didn't pay it much mind in the end as you searched. But still no signs of Hop or Victor anywhere.
"UGH!! This is useless!," Gloria gripped her hat in frustration. "We've been wondering around lookin' for 'em ALL DAY! And still ain't no signs of 'em bloody anywhere!"
You nodded looking around. Your Drizzilie had resumed it's regular position after a while of hiding thank goodness it seemed to be ok. "Maybe they haven't gotten here yet? Hop did say he wanted to stay a few days in Motostoke and catch some pokemon. We shouldn't give up yet."
"Yeah I guess. But they should've been here if the mareep head is. I wonder if I should call 'em-"
"Pst! Hey you!" Both of you paused...Another voice?? This time male and sounded around Gloria's age- Gloria whipped around quickly in expectation but the teen you were both met with wasn't Victor or Hop. Or even Bede. It was a red headed boy in a red hoodie, black sweats, and blue shoes. "You heard the rumor?" He asked the both of you.
....You both looked at each other bewildered for a moment before you shrugged. "...No?" Gloria slowly looked back to the boy. "I haven't. What rumor?"
"What? You haven't heard!?," the boy asked surprised, "There's a rumor if you give the one you like an applin, you'll be together forever!"
".....OH!! That old wive's tale!"
"....Applin?", you asked.
"It's a pokemon. The story goes that the first Queen of Galar's favorite pokemon was an applin and so her fiance gave 'er one as a gift on their weddin' day. Since then it's been tradition ta give one to a person yer romantically interested in when ya confess your feelings. Hop told me that story once," Gloria explained and the boy nodded.
"Actually the truth is, there's someone I like," the boy confessed looking down and scuffing his shoe on the ground, "She's gonna move over seas pretty soon...I've been searching for an applin so I can get my feelings across the right way. But I can't find one."
"Huh. Fancy that. You're the second one today who's told us they wanted to confess their feelings ta someone," Gloria chuckled, "But whatcha stop me for?"
"Well i-it's not just you two,'' he confirmed holding up a hand, "I've asked anyone here if they have an applin they'd trade me with. If you've got an applin, would you please give it to me?"
....You shook your head. "Sorry. But I've only ever had one pokemon and you're looking at him." Your drizzilie yawned in response.
"Actually," the both of you looked to Gloria smiling, "I do have one. While we was checkin' out that daycare back in Turrfield I adopted one from one of the random abandoned rotomi boxes. I think it's still in my personal inventory."
The boy's eyes widened. "Whoa! You mean you'll really give me an applin?!"
Gloria nodded. "Sure I will if it helps out your lady love!" She giggled before jamming her thumb behind her. "But wait 'ere for a sec. I gotta go get it from the center."
The boy nodded urgently. "Yes! I-I will! Thank you! B-B-But hurry! S-She's leaving tomorrow and I-I asked her to meet me later today!"
Gloria nodded turning quickly. "Don't worry! Stay right here I'll be back as fast as I can!" And she took off...You blinked and quickly made to jog to catch up with her.
"Hey! Whoa! You're handing him your pokemon just like that?"
She nodded as you caught up with her. "Yeah! I can tell he was bein' honest with me. 'Sides he's nice. Nicer than that mareep head anyways."
You nodded. Couldn't really blame her opinion on Bed-..........De.......BEDE!! "He's the troubled one!" You suddenly shouted and stopped. You must've caught Gloria off guard because she stopped just a few yards ahead of you as you stared at nothing suddenly....THAT'S IT!! THAT'S THE PERSON WHO YOU HAD THE BAD FEELING ABOUT!! BEDE WAS THE RIVAL WHO'D GET THAT LIFE CHANGING CHARACTER DEVELOPEMENT MOMENT!! .....But what!? ....GAH!! You couldn't remember what happens to him in game!! Your hand smacked your face in a face palm and you groaned. "UUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH!!!! GREAT!! Just my luck too!"
"....Yeah he's the troubled one." You slowly peeked your f/c eyes between your fingers to look at the confused brunette. "But whatcha goin' on 'bout now??"
....You shook your head. "Nothing." And looked up with a steeled face. "But Gloria. I NEED you to do something for me. And I need you to promise me to do it no matter what!"
Gloria must've been taken a back a bit because her face went concerned before she slowly nodded. "....Ok? What's it ya want me to do?"
She blinked as you very seriously grabbed her shoulders, looked her in the eyes, and spoke in a serious tone. "Gloria...I NEED you to apologize to Bede the next time you see him."
Gloria froze for a moment. Drawing a complete blank as if her brain was processing what you said with a reboot. "..............WHAT!? Are you crazy!? ME!? Apologize to the wooloo for brains for what he did!?"
"No! Not apologize for what he did to YOU. But apologize for what you did to him." She rose a brow and you sighed. "Gloria. I need you to apologize to Bede for yelling at him. And for calling him names like Mareep Head. That doesn't excuse his behavior and it doesn't make what he did ok, but I think he's about to go through something and I think it'll be better if there wasn't so much tention between you two. And after you apologise you shouldn't call him 'mareep head' or 'wooloo for brains' any more." You couldn't exactly tell her your reason why but you REALLY had a feeling whatever was about to happen was going to be big for him. And it'd be so much better the less tention there was between the rivals. And...with Bede being endorsed by the Chairman and all it'd be better for both her and Hop if most of the tention stopped. "You don't HAVE to forgive or forget what he did, and you DONT have to put up with him. But.....I can't explain why. So please as a friend just do me this favor."
Gloria stared at you for the longest time......before she sighed. Smiled. And nodded happily. "Ok."
....
.......
..........What-
"WHAT?!" You blinked. Hands dropping to your sides as she chuckled at your smackgobbed face. "A-Again?? Just like that!? You'll apologize to him??"
She nodded with a determined smile. "Hey. Victor and you already said I shouldn't fight with the mar-...Bede anymore! If apologizin' is what it's gonna take then I can suck it up and do it. After all ya apologized for me, so I can apologize for you just this once."
.......You breathed a long sigh of relief, weight lifting from your shoulders. "Thank you! I owe you one."
She shook her head. "Nah. Let's call it even. Kay? C'mon. Let's get that mate an applin before his lady love shoves off for a different region all together."
You nodded and with new found relief off you went towards the center. It didn't take too long for the two of you to reach it and immediately enter. Once inside Gloria made her way over to the Rotomi machine thingy than reminded you of an ATM and as soon as she pressed a button, the robotic pokemon on top danced to life as she worked it. Feeling slightly exhausted, you looked up feeling a tap on your shoulder and when you looked your Drizzilie pointed towards the man selling juice again. Before looking at you in question. With a sigh you nodded and went towards the man who was of course happy to sell you another cup of juice for your pokemon. RIP the rest of your money. You only had a few coins left from the change back as you stuffed them back into your pocket with a sigh and the man handed your eager pokemon a cup of reddish juice. It quickly jugged down the entire thing within a few seconds before giving a pleased chirp sound. You chuckled and rolled your eyes. Well at least someone was happy-...You paused..Blinking and turning around as a blur of pink and white fluffy hair walked past the center's window...No. It couldn't be! It would've been too much of a coincidence if it was...But still. You quickly moved towards the door as Gloria curiously looked up from the machine after your retreating form as you stepped out of the center, and looked around. ..No sign of him-
"Mr. Chairman!" You blinked at the familiar voice...before peeking around the corner and low and behold there the white haired boy was! Walking towards...you frowned. Oleana and the chairman who was...wearing the same weird outfit you saw him wear in Hulbury. Seriously, what was with the polka dot shorts?? Bede walked right up to the two who looked at him. "I've been both collecting wishing stars and gym badges as fast as I can. "
"Good work, Bede." Oleana complimented crossing her arms. "I'm glad you haven't forgotten that it was the Chairman who endorsed you." You instantly frowned. What was the deal with this woman!?
"If I gather enough wishing stars that'll help solve the problem that's been bothering you, right Mr. Chairman?" Your brows rose. So that's why Bede was collecting lots of wishing stars!? The Chairman was using them for something!! ...But why would the Chairman of an entire region need wishing stars that just Dynamax pokemon??
"Oh it's not just about me," the chairman clarified, "It's for the future of the whole Galar Region. And we'll need more than just wishing stars. We need a powerful pokemon trainer, too. Someone like the Champion."
"With all due respect, Sir, I was able to show Hop, one of the champion endorsed trainers, just how outclassed he was." You frowned more. Ok. You could see how Gloria and Hop could get mad at him. "I'm sure I'll be able to defeat the Champion. No. I WILL defeat the Champion."
"That's the spirit! It takes healthy competition to really keep the Gym Challenge Energized!" .......He called THAT healthy competition!?!?
Unknownst to you, Gloria had come out of the center and spotted you after looking around a bit, poke ball in hand which must've been the applin for the boy she promised. She walked over to you before blinking and looking towards where you were looking at, and pausing a moment seeing the same trio you must have.
"Challenger Bede, there is something I wish to disscuss with you. Do you have a moment?," Oleana asked.
Bede nodded to her and she silently beckoned him to follow her as she turned and began walking off with him and the chairman- You jumped as a blur rushed past you and it took you a moment to realize that it was Gloria. And the brunette was barraling right towards the white haired boy as he walked after Oleana and the Chairman. ....!? OH NO!!! You opened your mouth to shout at her to wait and stop if she was going to fight but even if you did she wouldn't have heard you, and it was too late!
"WWWAAAAAAIIITT!!! BEDE!!," She shouted at the top of her lungs gaining the attention of both Bede, and Oleana and of course the Chairman as all three stopped to turn around and see who could've been the one who had called his name. "I HAVE TO TELL YA SOMETHIN' IMPORTANT!!"
Bede looked stunned to say the least blinking purple eyes wide as he took in the sight of Gloria racing right up to him, as the two adults behind him looked slightly surprised. Before he scowled at her. "YOU AGAIN!? I don't have time to deal with you! If it's a battle you want it'll have to wait after my business with Ms. Oleana and the Chairma-"
As he turned to go away, Gloria had straight up grabbed his hand which had the dynamax band on his wrist causing him to turn back around to face the heavily breathing brunette who gasped for breath stunnded. .....Oh no!! Blinking out of your stupor you began jogging your way towards them hoping to stop any misreadings on the situation before it got out of hand. In the mean time Bede had paused blankly, stunned....Looking between his hand and Gloria for a moment before frowning and tugging his hand only to find her tightly glued to it.
"I-....I h-have a c-c-confession ta make to ya!," she wheezed out between breaths staring at him pokeball in hand.
"Well whatever it is it can wait until I'm finished!," he stated firmly tugging on his hand. "Would you please mind letting go of my hand?"
She shook her head. "No! I've been meaning to do this the moment I realized I should've done it after our first encounter in the mines!" She said apologetically and it made you slow down as you got closer...OH!! She was going to apologize! But Bede looked at her confused. "Bede...I.." Her lips pursed for a moment as her face almost gave a cringe. Before slamming her eyes shut. Grit her teeth. And blurted it out. "I-I'm sorry! I called ya names n' yelled at ya!"
That made everyone quiet as they stared. You in relief. Bede stunned confusion. Oleana.....Oleana. And the chairman suddenly looking interested seeming to realize who it was talking to Bede.
".....I-...*ahem* Well..." Bede tried to straighten himself obviously not sure how to handle the closed eyed girl gripping his hand apologizing.
"I know, I know! But somethin' recently came up that made me realize I had ta do this n' if ya did beat some one fair and square then there ain't nothin' I could do about it...but believe me t-this is a lot harder for me to do ..c-c-confessing in all." You smiled. Good, good. This was going well.
....That was until she peeked an eye open to Bede's expression as he stared...Eyes darting around for any way to escape this. "I Uh..." He cleared is throat righting himself into that usually serious faced person. "Well then. It's seems you truly and finally came to your senses enough to realize I..." His eyes landed on the poke ball still clutched in her hand...and suddenly that calm face went suspicious. He glanced between her and the pokeball. Before using his free hand to point at it. "And WHAT is that your holding??"
She blinked holding it up with a shrug. "Nothin' really. Just a lil applin."
A smack sound was heard as you AND your Drizzilie utterly face palmed HARD with the reality hit before you. Bede went once again into that wide eyed shocked mode Jaw dropped. Behind him Oleana's face went slightly wide eyed in surprise, the Chairman looked totally taken by surprise too before hummed and grabbing his chin with a thoughtful expression.
Bede looked between her face and the pokeball so many times wide eyed and sputtering strange noises that sounded like words he was trying to form as she rose a brow confused. "....A-Are...." He looked at her suddenly in the eyes. "A-ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW!?" His eyes narrowed. "Like...Y-You're not joking with me or m-m-making fun of me right now are you!? I-I have y-y-you know I don't appreciate being toyed with, Girl!!"
She scowled. "OF COURSE IM BEING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW!! Y'know how hard it was for me to make myself run up to ya and say all that! And for your intel fancy pants! It IS an applin! I wouldn't lie 'bout the pokemon I have! I was gonna give it away after the lil confessin' I forced myself ta do." You wanted to die from second hand embarrassment from her obliviousness to the situation she unknowingly put herself in.
Bede went wide eyed before his face turned about as pink as the coat he was wearing. He glanced a couple more times between her and the pokeball. ...Before in one swift movement he yanked his hand out of her grip and turned away head down and hands shoved into his pockets. "I....I-I....*AHEM*...I-I appreciate what you have decided to tell me...B-But I'll need time to think about if I accept such outlandish words from you or not...It...It might be best if we go our seperate ways for a while to let me think on t-that."
Gloria blinked at him still oblivious...before nodding proudly of herself and satisfied with the answer she got from the obviously flustered boy. "I'm glad we agree on that. I don't think I need ta say anymore to get my point across."
"A-A-AGREED!!" He looked desperately to the older woman. "M-Ms. Oleana you wanted to see me??"
Oleana looked to the Chairman who chuckled after a moment and nodded before Oleana turned around and Bede quickly followed after him as you dared continued to walk up to her. She smiled as she turned to you. "Well I think that went better than expected!"
You shook your head with a groan. "Actually I think it could've gone better."
Gloria rose a brow and was about to ask what you meant when the two of you were cut off by a chuckle of the chairman....Oh shoot! You forgot he was here. The man waved a hand casually. "Not too worry. Bede will be fine. But either way I hope you were listening, Gloria." She looked more confused at him. "As you know, wishing stars are those mysterious stones that are even attached to your Dynamax bands. There's more to wishing stars than just making your pokemon into giants though. They hold far more energy than that."
".....There is what?"
He chuckled. "If you're curious, then you should head to the stadium. In fact, we should head inside right away.I'll even give you a lesson on how the Galar Region gets it's energy." He nodded to you. "And of course your friend is more than welcome to join us like last time. I'm interested in getting your opinion." Ah nuts he DID remember you.
"Mm....Sure I guess."
"Excellent." He smiled turning. "You ladies follow me and Ill give you the tour." The two of you looked at each other before Gloria shrugged and began following him as you sighed. How did you get yourself into these things?? But you also followed him. Mr. Rose lead you all across the draw bridge that lead into the main castle which had a giant red and black stripped rug and was lit by actual torches. As you both took in the darkness and barely light around you, you followed the Chairman as he walked. You followed him until you all turned a corner and were surprised to find the entrance to the stadium!! Well it was closed off with a few people and security around, and to no one's surprise found Oleana plain faced waiting for the lot of you. "As you know, Hammerlocke's stadium doubles as an energy plant." The chairman continued walking up to Oleana and holding up a hand. Immediately she handed him a tablet that was in her hands. "Now have a look at my tablet. I've got all the information you need on it." He held it out to Gloria. She took it, looking confused at it for a moment, before tapping the screen and what you would best call a diagram and a friendly looking picture of Mr. Rose himself popped up. "See? An easy to understand description of the energy plant! First, energy is absorbed from Hammerlocke Stadium's tower. Then it's changed into electricity in the underground power plant and delivered to people throughout the region!" He went on to explain. "Our lives and society require various types of energy sources, such as electricity, natural gas, and water. My associate groups aim to improve everyone's lives by harnessing the power stored in wishing stars!"
Both of you looked up obviously surprised by what he said before Gloria glanced back to the tablet raising a brow before holding it back out to him. "But I thought only Professor Magnolia's Dynamax bands could harness the energy, wouldn't ye need 'er help??"
He took the tablet back before handing it to Oleana. "That's what Oleana and my team is for. I'm hoping Sonia would join us after her travels and research is finished."
"....Why are you telling us this?," you asked, "It sounds petty important. Wouldn't you want to keep that info to yourself?" It was also suspicious just telling you two but then again Bede did say more than once he was gathering wishing stars for the Chairman so maybe this was just you being too paranoid...But still that uneasy feeling you got when you were around these two were back.
The chairman paused as if sensing your feelings before smiling. "Experiments with Wishing Stars is nothing new. Professor Magnolia has done it for years and look what she created! Other scientists are currently studying their properties other than just us, and I believe Sonia is looking into the history of the origin of their power. So it's not really private knowledge." ....You...guessed that made sense. "Besides. If Bede's going to become the next Champion perhaps having any strong trainers by his side might be beneficial to our cause." And that bad feeling doubled! Oleana leaned over to whisper something to him and he hummed. "...Oh. It's time for me to get to work. I should get a move on before Oleana decides to give me another earful." He chuckled. "Gloria, I suggest you head over to the vault next. Just head toward Route Six from the stadium and you should find the vault without any issues. If you ladies would excuse us. It was nice to see you both again." With that they turned and you both watched as they walked towards a guarded elevator and went right in.
When the doors closed behind them Gloria turned a brow to you. "Well that was weird ain't it?"
"Good riddance I say." You turned to her after a moment and pointed to her pokeball. "Hey. Weren't you supposed to give that to the guy?"
She hummed looking to her pokeball then jumped. "OH GOSH I FORGOT!!" She twisted on her heel and made a break for it. "C'mon Y/n! We got no time ta lose!"
You sighed but complied by turning and jogging off after her. It was going to be a long day you could tell. But still you two made a promise and you were going to keep it. And that's exactly what Gloria did. You were more tired than her jogging around and carrying more weight, so it would make sense by the time you caught up with her you were wheezing for breath and had a back as sore as it could get, doubling over and hands on your knees a few yards away from Gloria who offered the wide eyed teen the poke ball with a smile breathing heavily herself.
"S-Sorry it took so long, mate!" She handed it into his awaiting hands. "O-One applin as promised!"
"YES!!" He held the ball into the air. "WOW! I did it! I finally got an applin! Thank you! Thank you so much! Since you went through the trouble of giving me an applin I've got to tell her how I feel!"
Gloria nodded. "When is she coming anyways?"
The boy went to speak, but suddenly stopped wide eyed. Fumbling with the ball for a second and looking past Gloria who turned her head behind her as another teen girl with darker brown hair in a ponytail and a yellow shirt approuched with a smile. "O-Oh! Geez!! T-T-That's her now!!".....Gloria whistled turning on her heel and walked aways from the boy to you as she came over. Smooth. Too bad she wasn't that smooth when apologizing.
Nervous the boy rubbed his head as the girl walked right up to him. "Sorry I'm late" she apologized. "What was it that you needed to talk about so suddenly?"
He sputtered. "I....Er....H-How's your packing going?" You facepalmed for the third time that day.
"Pretty much everything's been packed. Since I'm moving away tomorrow."
"Yeah," he agreed with a sad look in his eyes before taking a deep breath, "H-Hey! Check out this pokemon here!" He stated holding the pokemon out to her.
Blinking she looked at the pokeball then to him before slowly accepting and holding his ball curiously. "..What is it?"
"It's uh!.." He looked down and rubbed his next. "A-A-An applin." She blinked up surprise suddenly gracing her features. "F-For you."
"Oh. An applin?" He nodded and she looked back to the ball for a moment silence falling over them. It continued on for so long you and Gloria exchanged a slightly worried glance feeling awkward watching the seen. Luckily the girl smiled before looking back to her blue eyed friend. "Amazing. Did you catch it?"
The blinked surprised by her reaction before he looked embarrased and shook his head no. "W-Well...N-No. Someone gave it to me. B-B-But NOT romantically gave it too me!" He clarified holding up his hands. "I-I traded for it! I-I..." He slumped arms to his sides. "I'm sorry. I really wanted to give you an applin that I caught on my own. But well...Ah just forget it. I can't give you this applin." WHAT!?
"You're right. I can't take it," she agreed handing it back to him. Double WHAT!?
"Yeah.."
"Even if we're separated and far away from each other, I'll still be waiting for an applin you caught yourself." She giggled at his sudden dumbfounded expression.
"W-Wait. Do you mean-?" He was quickly shut up when she out of no where kissed his cheek, and Gloria chuckled as his expression went as pink as Bede's coat.
"Ah! Um...I'll uh-....I'll see you later!," she said just as flustered and pink faced before she quickly turned on her heel and lightly squealing with joy ran off. Leaving the boy wide eyed and jaw dropped and you two as witnesses.
Gloria snorted and you gave a tap to her shoulder to get her to stop. The boy after a moment picked his jaw up off the ground and turned to you. "Say. W-What do you think that was about just now? D-D-Do you think it meant that-?"
"That she likes you back?," Gloria asked before nodding. "Sure does pal. Good on you!"
He chuckled nervously. "T-Thank you? Wait! Does that mean what I think i-i-it means!?" She nodded again at his wide eyed face. "Really, really!? I can't believe it!" He threw his hands up. "WOO HOO!! ...Ah...Sorry. I just never thought that we both felt the same way."
"Oh don't worry. I'm used to seeing that by now," you clarified.
"Right. Well, I'd better give this pokemon back to you." He handed Gloria back her pokeball and before reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out something. "Here. Take this, too. Think of it as a reward for helping me take that first step." It looked to you two like some kind of coupons but you weren't sure. "I'm going to catch an applin myself! And then someday, I'm going to go giver her that applin. ...YEAH! I b-better get searching for an applin!" He turned with an extra bright smile on that face of his. "Thanks again, Mate! See ya!"
"Good luck!," Gloria called after him waving.
"Well...Today's been an exciting one," you stated stretching you back hissing as you did. "Looking around the castle town, seeing the chairman and his weird secretary, ...I guess technically apologizing to Bede, getting a letter from a mysterious girl, and helping someone confess their love. I think we've had enough excitement for one day. Does this place have an inn or a hotel we can stay at?"
"I didn't see one when we looked around."
"Camping doesn't sound too bad," a voice said with a chuckle.
"Yeah that does sound-"....You looked behind you and nearly had a heart attack when you came face to face with Leon himself! Jumping back and clutching your chest where your heart was as he gave a few laughs! "CHEESE AND RICE DONT DO THAT!!" You shouted your drizzilie chirped annoyed at him.
He chuckled a little more as you pouted at him and he shurgged. "Sorry. I couldn't help myself! I saw you just standing there and thought I should come up and say hi since it's been a while." Before you could say anything in response to that he was distracted by a happy squeal and turned to Gloria.
"LEON!!," she shouted jumping up to hug onto him.
With a laugh and smile he twirled around once cape flowing with her before planting her back down on her feet...And you couldn't help but shake your head with a smile. "Hey! Look at you, Gloria! You've groan exactly half an inch since I last saw you!" He fondly ruffled the giggling gal's hair. "Seems you're doing well collecting gym badges. I saw your recording of battling Kabu and I gotta say I'm so proud of you guys for making it this far!"
She beamed smiling wider than you had ever seen her before. "You are!? Aw. It was nothin'! Hop won his before I even did. He's the real one you should be proud of."
He nodded with a hum and you watched as he rubbed his neck like Hop. Family habit you supposed. "I am proud of him too! But Hop..." He suddenly looked down. "Gloria did something happen with him?" She blinked surprised. "He was acting really odd when I ran into him. He took one look at me and immediately was like "I'm so sorry, Lee!" It might be the first time I've heard him apologize for anything, and I have no idea what it was for. Maybe he's feeling down because he's had some losses in battle?"
"OH I KNEW IT!!" Both of you blinked to Gloria who scowled and huffed. "He lost to that challenger Bede! He was making fun of us and you and bein' a real pain in the tush!"
Leon stared at her for a moment before humming and catching her attention. "Well that would explain it. But he's got to learn sometime."
She blinked. "Whaddya mean?"
"Well...When you lose, you feel down in the dumps. But then there's no where left to go but back up! You've got to think on why it was you lost, though," he explained to her as she blinked.
"But...he lost before to Nessa and he didn't act like that when he did."
"Ah. I see. Well sometimes the reaction can depend on the person who you lose too. You said he made fun of you and me?" She nodded as he gave a thoughtful face. "I see. Well then if that happened he might be taking it a bit more personally. But we all have to handle people who don't like us on our journies. The important thing is to know that their words don't mean anything." He smiled. "Everyone's amazing in their own way, and someone else's hateful words shouldn't affect how you grow. So don't worry about him. You know that little brother of mine. I think he might yet become a surprisingly great trainer!"
Wise words. Wise words that seemed to get to Gloria as she nodded, "Yeah...Yeah you're right!" She smiled. "Hop's too smart to let that get him down anyways! He'll make it to the top guarenteed!"
"That's the spirit! Blast! And look at the time!" He scanned the sun real quick before groaning. "Nearly forgot my meeting with the Chairman! That Oleana lets me hear it when I'm late! Now only if I can remember which way to go-"
"They're at his power plant." Leon turned to you in question and you pointed back up the way you came. "Go that way to the pokemon center, you can't miss the thing it's the only thing here that's bright pink. Then turn left and he's inside his power plant last time we saw 'em."
He blinked before smiling brightly at you. "Hey thanks, Y/n. It was really good seeing you again. And seeing how that sobble of yours grew." He patted Gloria who smiled at him in return. "And it was so good seeing you too. You're doing a great job so far! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Anyways, I'd say that you should go and say hello to Raihan while you're here, Gloria!"
You paused and Gloria's eyes widened in wonder. "HE'S HERE!?"
He laughed again and nodded behind him. "Yeah! In fact he was my ride back here. He's the greatest rival I've got and the final hurdle you'll have to face in the Gym Challenge. Besides me of course. He should be still at the vault if you hurry. It's down that way." He pointed directly behind him. "On the way to Route Six...At least I think that's where it is. I'm not too good with directions."
"OMG!! IT'S THE CHAMPION!!"
Leon suddenly looked behind him as a small group had already gathered. "Uh oh! I-I'll see you later girls!" With a final pat to Gloria's head he RAN!! And the crowd gave chase. "S-Say Hi to Hop for me when you see him again!"
In a moment you quickly grabbed Gloria and yanked her out of the way of the stampeding twelve people's way as the crowd gave chase after the running champion and you both watched as they passed you. "GEEZ!! Does that happen to him all the time?"
Gloria nodded grabbing your arm. "Way more times than I can remember. But come on!" With a smile she tugged you forward in the direction Leon pointed. "I've never met Raihan before! And even the Chairman said I should visit the vault!"
"Hey, hey, hey! Whoa there! I thought we agreed to find somewhere to rest for the night."
"But Y/n!!," she whined tugging you again sad frown on her face, "I'm curiously about what this vault is now! So we gotta check it out! And plus! This might be my only chance of meeting Raihan casually without havin' the stress of a battle on my shoulders! If he's as amazin' as Lee says then I gotta at least say Hi!"
Your frowned back. "Yeah. I'm kinda iffy about the whole flirting with me part! I've never been hit on before."
She looked surprised for a moment. "Really? But you're so pretty! That's hard ta believe."
"Thank you. I'm glad you think that but that's not the point. The point is I don't feel like getting hit on by a guy who takes selfies and by the looks of it is abnoxious!," You insisted. Plus he was in your dream too and you'd rather avoid anymore interaction with anyone from your dream outside Leon who was genuinely nice. You were getting flirty bad boy vibes by what you've heard and seen and that was not your ideal type of guy in mind.
"PLEEEEEAAAASSSSEE!?," she begged you tugging on your arm. "Please please please! I promise It'll be the only favor I ask ya! Please won't ya do it just this one time!!"
You groaned throwing your head back. Knowing her she wouldn't budge til she got what she was after. "....Fine! But at the first sign of trouble we're outta there!"
Immediately her face lit up and she squealed happily like any teen you knew from back home meeting a boy band they loved. "YES!! Thank you thank you thank you! You won't regret it I promise!!"
"We'll have to see about that," You mumbled but let her tug you along with a newfound skip in her happy step as you went. You were right. This was definately gonna be a LONG day!
You let her drag your already annoyed and sore self towards the way Leon had pointed out to you past the barber shop you two had passed by earlier and onto another draw bridge as you came across it. Brow raised as you passed by a second pokemon center, did this place really need two of them?? And past a few people as you went. At one point you duo passed a group of about four woman who were excitedly chattering at a blushing girl in the center who held a piece of paper in her hands red faced embarrassed as a person could guess....You had a scary sinking feeling you knew where they had just come from. And an even more scarier feeling when you found out you weren't wrong. Because all of a sudden Gloria stopped, making you bump into her, gasped wide eyed like she had just seen a ghost, grabbed your arm tighter, and pointed with the other hand in front of you both! Blinking you looked up...and suddenly wanted to curl up into a whole and never come back out. There he was. The third person from your dream. the undenyable orange badanna dragom gym leader of Hammerlocke himself, Raihan. He looked...Bored. Leaning up against two double doors, which you had guessed was the vault, and lazily scolling through his phone....But perked up when he felt eyes on him and glanced over in your direction. As soon as he made eye contact with you he smiled. AH HECK NO!! You turned to leave but there was a problem as Gloria still had a good grip on your arm so you yelped in panic when she went forward with a happy smile on her face, and Raihan leaned himself off the wall as you approuched. OH FRICK OH FRICK OH SWEEET BABY SOBBLES!!
"Oh. Hey there, Ladies!," he greeted a fanged smile sent your guys' way when Gloria dragged your wincing form right up to him. "Nice day for a walk. If it isn't the trainer endorsed by the champion. Let's see...What's your name again?" He hummed for a moment eye brow perked up in thought at the excited girl standing before him before snapping his fingers and pointing at her. "Ah right! Gloria! And if Leon himself recognized your potential then I guess you'll grow into quite the trainer."
You rose a brow. ...Well that polite compliment wasn't what you expected at first. But Gloria gasped finally letting go of your arm. "You know who I am!?"
He laughed this time. But not in a mean way, more of an amuzed way. "Are you kidding? All Leon ever talks about is you and your brother and Hop! And how amazing you kids are. All the same though, anyone wanting to challenge the mighty Raihan has to prove they're up to it by earning seven gym badges first."
...She blinked. "Oh uh..." Embarrassed she kicked her foot against the ground. "A-Actually I-I'm not here to challenge ya. I just wanted to m-meet ya in person and c-check out the vault of course!!"
"Ah so you're here to see our treasures are you?" Gloria nodded to him. "Gaining a better understanding of pokemon by studying history certainly isn't a bad idea." Your brows raised even more in surprise. "I like your spirit, Kid!" He nodded towards the doors laying a hand on them. "Follow me why don't you?" With a single push from his hands they opened and he went inside, well Gloria excitedly went in right after him and by default you too. Hey. He hadn't said a single flirty word. Maybe this would be tolerable. " The room he walked into was...Honestly very plain looking. There was two giant shelves covered in trophier, a few seats leaned against one corner, a staircase leading elsewhere, A woman manning a counter, and some kind of symbol plastored on the wall. Blinking back up when Gloria gasped. "I'll even spare you one of my league cards. Signed of course as for any fan." Now you realized why she gasped. He had just handed her one of his league cards and was smiling brightly at him which made him chuckle before lazily pointing up the staircase. "Now on you go. If it's the vault you want it's up those stairs there."
Gloria blinked for a moment looking towards the stairs then back to Raihan and smiled. "H-Hey Thanks!" Before turning and slowly walking her way towards the stairs, card in hand.
You sighed in relief. Thank goodness he kept it casual. You didn't know how you'd react if-
"And I didn't know Lee had such cute friends.~" Your eyes must've looked like those funny googily eyed stickers you'd buy from the store by how wide they looked when you snapped to him. And this guy just stared calmly with a polite smile...And. WINKED!! At you!
You stood there for a moment before your Drizzilie gave a loud warning chirp in his direction to which Raihan blinked at. Gave you enough time in his moment of confusion to BOLT your way to the stairs weight and aching pain be darned and scrambled after Gloria a weird feeling coming over you. "Remind me to give you a big dinner later as a thanks!" Your pokemon thrummed in approval and you made your way and into the..outside?? What the? You slowed down your pace as you got higher and higher. And dared to look down which was a HUGE mistake because you instantly felt a twisting feeling in your gut realizing how HIGH you were off the ground and without safety bars from just one flight of stairs alone. Swallowing the lump in your throat, you dared to continue up the stone steps towards a door at the top.
"Whatever happened to the sword and shield that drove off the disaster?"
You rose a brow as you walked forward more towards the familiar sounding female voice all the way towards the open door...No there's no way SHE would be here too! But alas when you walked right in. Your eyes widened. The room was MASSIVE!! High brick walls, giant windows, and four giant tapestries lined the front walls. One depicting two men under a light, the next the two men by what looked like a storm(??), the third them, the storm, and a sword and shield in the sky, and the last one of the two men as kings. Not sure what story it told but it looked heroic as in a fairytale. As your eyes trailed down to two women in the room one was obviously Gloria who was chatting with Sonia and the other. Was obviously...Sonia. You blinked wide eyed at the lady but was relieved to see her as you stepped in with a smile.
"Hey, Sonia!," You called out.
said red head looked at you and smiled as you walked over to her. "Hey! Y/n, I thought you couldn't be too far behind if Gloria was here." She paused seeing the little hitch hiker leaning on your shoulder that was your Drizzilie, as she pointed at him. "Hey. Is that who I think it is?"
You smiled and nodded. "Yep. Apparently he was closer to evolving that you guys thought. He ended up doing that when Gloria borrowed him for a battle. Still hungry as a snorlax tho." Drizzilie shot you a pouty look and you three girls ended up chuckling at his reaction. "Anyways what are you doing here? I thought you came here right after that dinner in Hulbury."
She waved a hand. "Well, yeah that was the plan at first, but I ended up staying with Nessa a bit to catch up and have some time with my friends." She sighed. "It's been so long since I saw them all. It was good catching up with her and everyone else again revisting our favorite spots. I lost track of time and ended up catching a ride with Lee and Raihan back here to see the vault." She turned back to the tapestries and you glanced up as she looked. "I-....Think I'm getting closer to solving the mystery behind the dynamaz origin but...the same thing happened to everyone else that researched this far into the story before giving up. Still too much mystery and not enough answers to fill in the blanks I'm afraid."
You nodded glancing up at the old things. "Yeah I get you. I'm trying to solve a mystery of my own too in a way." A mystery of how to get back home and helping Gloria finish the game's story plot was the one but you weren't about to admit that!
She looked at you. "Oh yeah? What kind of mystery?"
"The mystery of how long it takes before that guy down stairs decides to put the moves on me. Maybe he's like an an- uh pokemon and you have to play dead." She rose a brow. "Y'know that one saying. You have to play dead or else they'll pounce on anything that moves."
"PFFFT!!" Sonia Snorted. Snorted!! Before her hands flew up to cover her mouth as laughter shook her form and Gloria looked up from her phone confused. "I-I-I...Oh gosh! Ahaha! I-I g-guess you met Raihan??" She asked between small giggles.
"Met him!? I thought the guy was gonna try to make me a side dish for his next curry by how he looks at you! Does he flirt with everyone?"
Sonia giggled a bit more before shaking her head. "No! That's just how h-he is. He really is a sweet and caring guy once you get to meet the real him honest."
"Told ya," Gloria confirmed.
"Well I don't think I wanna be the 'princess' who gets kidnapped by the 'dragon' thank you. Hopefully he'll be too busy taking selfies when we go back to go Y/n hunting." That got Sonia chuckling again.
"I hear you, I was that way when I first met him too. I hope you find what you're looking for." She turned back to the tapetries. "I'm going to stay here and try to study these a little more."
You were not that lucky. Because as soon as you two descended the stairs and got back down to the ground floor, Raihan was still there ever present seeming to wait for you. Doesn't a famous Gym leader have OTHER things to do-....Oh right. Gloria said he usually had a lot of time on his hands this early into the challenge. You wanted to face palm yourself hard for forgetting so easily like that. Raihan however just smiled at you two and looked to Gloria.
"Well that was quicker than I thought it'd be?," he chuckled," Was the famous Hammerlocke vault to your satisfaction Lil miss?"
Gloria instantly nodded. "Yes! The tapestries are beautiful!"
He nodded in agreement. "And really old too. The tapestries in the vault depict the heroes of the Galar Region's past. I suppose if we've got any modern hero I'd have to be our Champion Leon." He hummed looking Gloria over a moment and you rose a brow at him. "...Hey. You want some advice from a Gym leader who's fought Leon for the Champion title lots of times?" Of course she nodded excitedly. "Then listen up, Gloria. Your goal is to defeat that superstar Leon. So go to Route Six and train yourself up along the way to Stow-on-Side. Bea's the fighting type gym leader, so the best way to beat her is to think like a fighting type trainer would. Train hard and I know you'll be able to do it!"
With a fist pump the brunette nodded. "Right! I won't let ya down Sir!"
He chuckled. "Now I see why Lee likes you so much. Ah. That reminds me." He turned to the door and pointed. "There was this lil man that looked a lot like you looking for you outside there. Maybe you know him?"
In an instant the girl snapped to the door, gasped, and ran off. "VICTOR!!" The doors slamming open as she flew through them with the speed and strength of a wild bull.
He laughed. "Ah. That kid has some spunk. I look forward to battling her soon." He then turned to you as you paused. "Anyways. I don't think I got your name Miss??"
"Y/n." you stated flatly, "And thank you for the compliments-"
"Ah thank nothing of it." He flashed a fanged grin at you, "I know how it can be sometime meeting me n' all that but it really is no big deal-"
"Oh you're right about that." He paused stopping, blinking wide eyed at your deadpanned face mouth agape in a smile as he processed what you had bluntly but politely stated. "You do seem REALLY nice and I really appreciate all the nice things you said to me and Gloria, but I'll have to stop you right there with the flirting, Mr. Raihan. No offense to you of course, and I don't mean anything by it." You turned giving the frozen gym leader one last look before you left. "You just aren't my type. I'm sure you'll find a nice person soon tho with your looks and charms. Have a nice day."
And you left, leaving the wide eyed Dragon Type Gym Leader standing there jaw dropped and the secretary at the desk who also looked shell shocked at what she had just witnessed. ....Raihan's rotom gave a loud pokemon sound of alarm when Raihan dropped his phone with a thud onto the floor. Meanwhile you had just gotten outside the vault and with a sigh looked around. Relieved THAT was over and done with. As you scanned you heard someone call your name and when you looked, saw none other than Victor waving an arm towards you. Smiling you happily made your way over to the equally smiling brunette boy.
"Hey! There you are! We've been running all over the place trying to find the two of you! And judging by the sun..We've been doing it all day too. Where were you guys??"
He sighed shaking his head. "It's...complicated, Y/n. We got here a little while ago, but we aren't staying. We're taking the night train tonight to Stow-on-Side."
You blinked. "Wow. Again? I'm gonna be up all day and night then-"
"No." He cut you off and made you pause, "Not all of us." He clarfied frowning and looking down. "Just me and Hop. He...has some things he wants to sort out."
"Sort out? What do you-" You looked around more. "Where is he?"
He pointed behind him down the ways towards Route Six. "Down that way. Gloria took off after him but I wanted to make sure she didn't forget you or anything."
You nodded patting his shoulder before beginning to walk off in the direction he pointed out with a feeling you knew exactly what this was about. Victor followed behind as you picked up your pace looking around for those two crazy kids-
"Then there's no point in us stickin' around!," A loud male voice cried out somewhere ahead....Both you two exchanged looks for a moment before picking up your pace and rushing forward, going around the corner and finding out exactly where the loud yell was coming from. You found Gloria and Hop alright. With their wooloo and raboot out and two of those weird Team Yell guys standing there by some snake looking pokemon. The man was the one who was yelling tho. "Let's get out of here! We'll make these bothersome kids holler some other day!" Was that a threat!? In an instant you began walking towards them again as the two make up caked clowns turned and ran off.
"Gloria..." Hop began turning and giving his friend a sad smile. "You and raboot were brilliant together!"
Gloria smiled holding up her pokeball to return said raboot. "Thanks! Wooloo n' ye have really gotten stronger since the last time I saw ya! Guess ya can say 'Woo hoo' to match your wooloo!" She giggled at her own terrible pun but....when Hop remained silent her giggles slowly faded as she looked at him...and she blinked. Uh oh. This couldn't have been a good sign. "Hop?" She questioned reaching a hand half way to him....He shook his head no looking down. "H-Hey. What's wrong?"
He remained silent for a moment. ".........Gloria." He began. "See..Bede really wiped the floor with me last time we battled." Oh boy you KNEW it would have something to do with that. "And don't get me wrong. I can take a loss. Battling means you've got to lose sometimes. ....But he said that I was dragging Lee's good name through the mud being so rubbish like I was..." WHAT!?
"WHAT!?," Gloria yelled out shocked. "HOP! That's not true! You've won every at every gym we've been too so far! Twice even before me. How does that make you any weaker than I am?"
"I know that!" He clenched his hands into fists at his side not looking up. "And I know what you said is true but ...I can't just let myself let my guard down and not improve. And I just can't get those words out of my head! If I'm weak, then people'll think Lee's weak too! But I don't want that! I can't let Lee get dragged down! He's the unbeatable Champion! I'm gonna have to take some time figuring this out.....I-I...Im sorry- AH!?" He blinked frozen as Gloria suddenly enveloped him in a hug...before his face broke up in bright pink from it...and he slowly hugged his friend back.
"Hop...You're NOT weak," she mumbled against where she hugged him, "You're smarter and stronger than ya think. And I don't want you givin' up."
"Heh. Who said I was giving up?," he asked with a chuckle, "If I just gave up now that would just prove Bede's point. And I came too far now to stop. I made a promise to you I'd battle you in the finals and I aim to keep that promise! This isn't me quitting, Glory. Just taking some time away to improve on some of my skills. That's all." She blinked as he pushed her away and gave her that bright smile of his. "If I'm going to beat you, then I need to prove that I'm a worthy rival. Alright?" ...She nodded eventually with a smile.
"Besides." Both of them snapped towards the two of you as you approuched. "If you ever really want to talk with us, you can call me or Hop on your Rotom phone at any time." Victor rose a brow as he crossed his arms and eyed where Hop was gently holding his sister's arms. "...Did I miss something?"
Hop blinked before instantly letting go beat red with a cough. "HEY! When did you-...*AHEM*" He rubbed his neck. "I-I was just saying see you around, Gloria!"
Victor hummed like he really believed him. "Rrrriiiiiggght. Anyways, Hop. It's getting close to sun down. If we wanna catch the night train out of Hammerlocke we should go now and wait at the station."
"UH!! R-Right!" He cleared his throat and turned to Gloria. "I-...I-I'll see you later, Glory. You can b-bet on that." Before quickly walking away past the both of you. "H-Hi Y/n. Nice seeing you again!"
Victor sighed and turned to follow. "Yeah. It was good seeing the two of you again. Don't forget. You have our Numbers, Gloria." He pointed back at her as he walked away. "Stay out of trouble! You hear?! And be prepared!"
"I know how to stay out of trouble ya loon!," she yelled back at him.
"Could've fooled me!"
Gloria stuck her tongue out at his retreating form and you chuckled. "What a loon. He's more chatty than a herd of hungry wooloo."
You shrugged. "I guess so..." You frowned a bit. "But on a serious note, are you ok?"
After a moment staring at where the two boys disappeared she sighed and nodded. "Yeah. Yeah I'm ok. There ain't really nothin' I can do about this anywho."
You suddenly had a guilty feeling come over you. "Hey...A-About what I had you do earlier with apologizing to Bede. I'm really sorry about that-"
She held up a hand to you and shook her head. "No." Her face a determined frown. "Nah you n' Victor were right. And so was Lee. I shouldn't make any trouble for myself by just pickin' fights. And Lee was right about there bein' people like Bede anyways. But I ain't gonna let his words get ta me. And I know Hop."...She smiled. "I cant explain it as anything but a friend's intution, but I know he'll be alright. He's too smart to let Bede keep 'em down for long. And Victor's with him. So I know he'll help him too."
You nodded smiling. Of course you knew Hop would be ok as well. "That's right. But hey. Victor told me they were heading to Stow-on-Side. We were heading there anyways, and there's some day light left. Why don't we drop by Hammerlocke Cafe for a quick dinner and start heading out before night fall?"
With a determined smile Gloria Nodded and pointed up. "Perfect idea! Let's eat! Then it's onto Stow-on-Side!!"

zutara prompt: zuko's having a moment of insecurity because of his scar and Katara tries to soothe /comfort him.
"Papa?"
"Yes, Izumi?"
"Are you done?"
Zuko looks down and sees his daughter standing at the edge of his desk, pouting. "I'm . . ."
"Mom's waiting," she imperiously crosses her hands over her chest, and he laughs drily before checking the time candle in the corner. A quick glance outside has him realize that the sky is already a terrible inky black. "You have to put me to bed. And then you have to sleep. And then Mom is gonna go practice her bending."
"I--" he has dozens of reports to sign off on, complaints and begs for subsidization and conflicts in the colonies, but he will never deny his daughter anything. Zuko pushes everything to one side of the table and steps up, cracking his knuckles before leaning down and pulling Izumi into his arms. His hands wrap around her sides, lightly tickling her through her robes, and she smiles despite the late hour. "Okay. Bedtime for you, you little fireflake."
"Don't call me that!"
"Nuh-uh. You're always going to be my little fireflake." They exit his office and walk the short hall to Izumi's bedroom, next to his and Katara's. The halls are empty at this time of day--the palace runs on an earlier schedule than this mixed-nation family does. Katara rises with the moon, and he with the sun, so they have this strange compromise when it comes to their daughter. They both put her to sleep, and Katara wakes her in the morning. She needs more rest than the both of them.
Izumi's room is purple, a strange color to see in the Caldera, but she'd chosen it as an infant and never looked back. The moon is a vision in her window, and when Zuko rounds inside he takes in Katara sitting on his daughter's bed, playing with a ball of water in a glass in the corner. "Did I keep you waiting?"
Katara smiles softly at him, shaking her head before freezing the water back into the cup. Izumi runs off to her closet to change into her night-clothes, and he slides off his heavy mantle and sits on top of her sheets, placing one of his hands around Katara's shoulders. She leans into him, bright-eyed, and he kisses her cheek. They are good at this, at sitting in silence; it’s comforting, and when Izumi runs out and jumps between them, he just chuckles.
"Are we reading a story tonight?" Katara asks.
"We can go over Love Amongst the Dragons again--"
"We are not turning our daughter into a theater nerd, Zuko--"
"We are absolutely turning her into a theater nerd," he scoffs, his hair brushing Izumi's loose brown locks. "You like the theater, don't you?"
"Yes, Papa."
"See?" he almost sticks out his tongue at Katara, who smirks. "So Love Amongst the Dragons--"
"Why do you even like that story so much, Papa?"
Zuko shifts until they're more comfortable against him. "My mother and I used to talk about it a lot. We'd watch it on Ember Island too."
"They've been doing it for that long?" He nods. "Then how is it still so terrible?"
"Theater nerds," Katara restates jokingly. "All three of you."
"Did you watch it every year growing up?"
"I--" Zuko's voice dampens. "Until I was a few years older than you."
"Oh." Izumi is a child, and she's curious. "So why'd you stop?"
"My . . . my mother went away for a while."
This is a darker place than he'd intended to take this conversation, and when he looks at her Katara is just biting her lip and smiling at him soothingly.
"Grandma left you? But Mom would never leave me."
"She didn't leave him," Katara reaches out. "It's complicated, sweetie."
"I don't get that," Izumi frowns. "Is it where you got the scar? Mom would never let me get a scar."
That burns him, intensely, but he can't be angry about it--it's he who still hasn't told her the truth about his scar, where he got it, who did it to him. Most days, he accepts it. He's accepted that he's not defined by it--the first time he can recall doing so was that day in the Crystal Catacombs. Still, he pities Izumi for having an ugly father, even if he can't quite say so.
As if Katara can understand his thought process--he wouldn't put it past her--she reaches to him and places her fingers against the mark. He can't feel her touch, exactly, but he knows the pressure. It's a strange feeling. "It wasn't my mother's fault, Izumi. It wasn't Grandma's fault."
"I don't get it, Papa. Didn't it hurt? Oh," she nods solemnly. "It happened in the war."
She sounds so proud of herself, and he sort of wants to go along with that, but Katara breathes in and stares at him, and he knows he needs to lead into this, eventually, somehow. "It did happen in the war. But it wasn't because of Grandma."
"I'm gonna hurt anyone who hurt you," the little girl says crossly, and Katara takes her hand and laughs.
"Easy there, sea prune."
"Can you stop calling me food names?"
"But you're so adorable," Katara teases, and Izumi presses back into her father's embrace, sticking her tongue out at her mother before seeming to grow reflective.
"Who did it? Who burned you?"
This is such a simple question to answer. He needs to answer it. But he's staring at his daughter right now, and he loves her so much, and he has no idea how his father pressed a burning hand to his face. "I--" He needs to say this. He does. He begs Katara to take it with his eyes for a brief moment, but she shakes her head at him and speaks to him with her eyes. You need to do this.
"My father."
"But Grandpa Noren--"
"My other father," he whispers. "But he's gone now. We don't talk about him."
Izumi seems more confused than angry. "But that doesn't make any sense. Parents are supposed to love their kids. Not hurt them. Or leave them."
"They are," Katara steps in. "And we love you more than anything, you know that."
"Yeah," Izumi nods, and Zuko can be happy, because all he needs to accomplish in this life is the love of his daughter. All he can do is try to deserve that love. And the way she speaks of it, without doubt, tugs at his heartstrings. "I don't get it."
All he feels is love. "Me either."
"It's stupid."
"Isn't it?" he almost wants to choke out, his hand suddenly lodged in Katara's.
"It's okay, though. I think your scar makes you pretty."
"It does?" Katara questions, a lilt to her tone.
"It's very . . . dramatic. Dragon. Papa would be a good actor," Izumi says solemnly.
"Nerds. You both."
A load feels lifted off his shoulders, and the rest of the night flows smoothly, and some part of Zuko feels at peace.

Lost In Time (2)
SUMMARY: This is the prelude to Lost in Time, answering the question, How did the Avengers lose one of their own?
Word Count: 2,224
The italics is present day for the Avengers. Also this picture is my background lmao.
Tumblr media
Accepting that you were supposed to work with the Avengers was mind boggling. It was weird, and yet not totally out of your element. In a weird way you felt at home here. There were people who could do crazy things, the same way you and others at Camp could.
Right now you were following Strange, Steve, and Tony to the common room. Taking in the advancement in technology made your head hurt. And you wondered if you would remember this when you were sent back.
"So how exactly did you "lose" me?" You asked, sitting on one of the chairs in the common room.
"Well," Tony started, stopping to collect himself. The room grew tense with silence. Steve looked angry and sad, and all of that left you feeling uneasy.
You were so excited; it was your first day off in months. Being an Avenger was extremely time consuming.
You were practically bouncing off the walls of the compound, you were so excited. You had made plans with Annabeth to go visit Chiron at Camp Half-Blood. Between being a demigod and an Avenger, the Avengers got 98% of your time. It’s not like you were complaining, you were so over being the gods little pawn. Still, you missed your friends and the sentiment of Camp.
You said a quick farewell to your team as you stepped into the elevator with Annabeth, “Don't get in too much trouble without me!” You called as the doors closed.
The ride to Long Island was full of laughter and catching up. You haven't really talked to anyone outside of your mom and the Avengers in almost a year. Anyway, Percy and Annabeth decided they were going to get married despite Hera. And you, well you were in New York fighting the battles so no one else had to. Approaching Half-Blood Hill you pulled the car off to the side of the road.
After greeting your old friend Peleus (The dragon that guards the fleece), you stepped through the barrier. The smell of the strawberry fields, the warmth of the sun, the sound of arrows hitting their targets, and swords clashing, kids laughing. It all brought you right back to being a 17 year old half-blood, when nothing was more important than making the most of the summer. The faint music from Apollo cabin drew you in for a second. Looking over at the cabins made your chest bubble with pride. You and your friends, your family even, fought so hard for this. For once, you felt truly at peace standing next to those strawberry fields. You were home, you grew up here, and all at once the weight of your influence stole your breath. You helped rebuild this place, and against all odds you were alive at 30 to appreciate it.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” Annabeth said, standing next to you. She was doing the same thing. Reminiscing, allowing her walls to come down in the safe place that is Camp Half-Blood.
“Yeah,” you laughed breathlessly. “This is amazing.” You looked at her. “Let’s go see Chiron.” You and Annabeth made your way over to the Big House, where Chiron was standing talking to some campers. You guys stood back until he was finished, but their constant glances your way made him turn.
“Annabeth, Y/N,” He said with a huge smile. “Welcome back!” He turned his attention back to the campers. “Michael, Kya, give these two the full tour. Then bring them to Cabin 11” Chiron said, The two older kids, whom you assimes were counselors, nodded, leading the two smaller boys away.
“Is it just me or do they look strikingly like Percy?” You whispered to Annabeth. She nodded, looking just as perplexed as you felt. You figured Poseidon was no longer under oath, but you actually weren't expecting him to have any more demigod children. Meanwhile, a glance over at Cabins 1 had you biting your tongue. New campers poured in and  out of Zeus’ cabin which was pretty on brand for Zeus, you thought.
“Walk with me ladies,” Chiron said. “A lot has changed since you’ve been gone.” So, the two of you walked with Chiron through the mess hall, where dozens of new tables stood. When you walked over to admire the renovated cabins, a boy, not much older than 12 maybe 13 ran up to you.
“You’re Y/F/N Y/L/N right?” He asked. The kid had sandy brown hair and excited blue eyes.
“I am,” you smiled at him.
“No way! I’m Dean, I’m in Apollo cabin. You’re like a legend! And you’re an Avenger! That’s so cool.” Figures. Most of these kids were from New York, and the majority of them knew who the Avengers were.
“Nice to meet you Dean. Listen, I’ll swing by the archery range later, the hour before dinner. Maybe I’ll see you there.” You ruffled his hair and nudged him along.
The time flew by, and before you knew it, it was time for Dinner. You were walking with the Apollo cabin over to the Dining pavilion. The day was spent with Annabeth and Chiron walking around camp, meeting and training campers, and hanging out with the Apollo kids. Lacy Partick was head counselor these days, nice girl. As you sat for your last meal at Camp, you were with Chiron and Annabeth. Your phone rang, interrupting your conversation.
“Work calls?” Chiron asked.
“I don’t know, Excuse me for a second.” You said, walking away from the noise of the pavilion.
“Hello?” You answered. The call was from an unknown number.
“Y/N?” A woman called from the phone.
“Speaking, who is this?”
“My name Is Jenna McAllister, I work with S.H.I.E.L.D. We need you to come in ASAP.” She said, the urgency in her voice made you tense with worry.
“Okay. Give me a minute,” You said, putting her on hold. You ran back to Annabeth. “I have to go, I’m so sorry.” You said. Luckily, being an Avenger meant these things happen, and being a demigod/demigod trainer Annabeth and Chiron were more than familiar with last minute quests.
“Go,” Annabeth said, “I’ll call Percy.” You nodded and looked at Chiron.
“It was great to see you, Chiron. The Camp is absolutely amazing. I’ll be back soon, I swear” You said.
Chiron laughed, “I’ll hold you to that dear. Go.” he said, waving you off. So you ran. You ran down the hill into your car. Starting the car you took Jenna off hold.
“Alright McAllister, what’s going on?”
“Our sources are telling us the Avengers are being held captive somewhere in Boston.”
“Hold on, you mean to tell me every one of them is out of commission?” You asked, in disbelief.
“That’s what we think. None of them are responding, it’s been hours.” She said. No, no, no, no, nonono, you thought. No them, not your family. “We’re sending in a team, we were hoping you would lead it.”
“Of course, have a jet ready, I’ll be there in 20.”
“Yes ma’am.” She said, “We’ll have all of your weapons ready to go as well.
“Thank you,” You said. The call was over, but your mind raced as you took the fastest way to the compound. Speeding through New York might not have been your best choice, but at this point it was all you could do. You had managed to reach the compound in 15 minutes, going 90 through the city and on the rural roads leading up to the building.
You were met in the hangar with a team dressed in combat gear, guns strapped and ready to go.
“Y/N!” You recognized Fury’s voice. Your suit and weapons are all on board. You have a team of 14 of our top agents. There’s a box on top of your suit, it’s an earpiece in it. Wear it. You’re in charge, Bring 'em' home, whatever it takes.” You nodded.
“See you soon boss,” You said, waving the team into the jet.
Landing in Boston you were suited up and ready to go. You were going to split the team in two, enter the building from both entrances and meet in the middle. The “Building” was an inconspicuous Brown Stone in the middle of Boston. That meant you had to walk to the building as discreetly as possible in an attempt to attract as little attention as possible.
Your half of the team was going in through the front door, the other was going through the side. Kicking in the door you cleared the first three rooms as quickly as you could. Looking for any signs of the Avengers.
It wasn’t long before you came across the disaster that was the basement. There were holes in the walls from Clint's arrows, repulson beams, Steve’s shield, bullets, everything you could think of marked these walls. The blood splattering the walls and floor was what got to you. Who or What had the power to take down the Avengers. Hand on your comms you asked the other team how it was going. The “Captain” of that team had nothing but family pictures and soccer schedules. “Come down to the basement. We’re searching every inch of this place until we get an answer.” “Spread out, take pictures, document everything. Then Fuck it up. Push on the walls, look for anything unusual and run with it. You find ANYTHING, you let me know. Got it?” You said in your most commanding voice. You were trained for this, but this was the most high stake mission you’d ever been on.
Surveying the room, you noticed a faint glow behind one of the bricks. It was a faint golden hue, much like that of Celestial Bronze. Reaching toward the brick you pushed it. To your amazement, the surrounding bricks pulled apart harmoniously to reveal a pathway. It was buried into the ground, and had to be about 10 feet deep, but at the end the golden hue was brighter.
“Okay,” You whispered. “Whatever’s down there is not going to be friendly. We need to be quiet. Our main goal is to get in, find the team, get them out. Who wants to come?” No one raised their hand. And you couldn't blame them. You didn’t want to go down the tunnel either but your friends were down there.
“Alright, you three, you’re staging here to cover us. Anything goes down, or comes up, deal with it. The rest of you follow me.” You turned, putting your bow on your back and pulling out your knife of Celestial bronze. Leading the team through the tunnel you listened for any signs of monsters. You had a bad feeling about this. This was pure “Mythology” and you weren't happy about it. Reaching the end of the tunnel you caught sight of Steve’s shield. Peeking around the corner, you saw the team, in a cage of whatever was strong enough to keep them there. Signaling the S.H.I.E.L.D. team to wait for you, you went over to the Avengers.
 “Y/N,” Nat whispered.
“Hey guys, what are we dealing with?” You asked.
“It’s some kind of dragon,” Tony said. “Nothing we threw at it worked. And it’s got little minions.”
You had an idea of who they were talking about. One of Apollo’s greatest enemies was Python. A dragonesque snake. In the last war against Gaia you had slain Python again and again, until he finally stayed dead.
“I think he wants me.” You said.
“Y/N, whatever you're thinking, stop it.” Natasha said.
You had grown closer to Natasha than most of the other Avengers. She was like a sister to you, and that’s why it was so easy for you to make the decision.
“I’m sorry Nat,” you whispered.
“Python!” you yelled. “Come out here. Let’s make a bargain.” You said, looking at Natasha the whole time.
“Y/N stop it!” She yelled. The booming footsteps alerted you of Python’s presence.
“We meet again.” Python said. He spoke in a combination of a hiss and a growl. It was unnerving to say the least.
“Python, release these people.” You demanded.
Python laughed, a bone chilling sound that you swore on your life you never wanted to hear again.
“Why would I do that?” He asked.
“Because you can have me. Release them and you can do whatever you want with me. They have nothing to do with this.” You said, glancing at the team behind him still in the tunnel.
Python laughed again, “Very Well.” Reaching out, he grabbed you in one of his giant claws. Moving over to the cage he wiggled you in front of them. Natasha covered her mouth to contain her sob. Steve, Tony and Clint looked at Python with searing rage. “One wrong move and she dies tonight.”  He opened the cage and walked away with you to the depths of his lair.
Taking their confiscated weapons, the Avengers met the S.H.I.E.L.D. team in the tunnel. On their way up they heard the sound of chains, and your screams. But they knew there was nothing they could do right then. They just had to move quickly.
“You saved us,” Steve said. His head down. “You saved all of us.”
