Being the second child to welcome Mr and Mrs Donovan didn’t bring as much joy as their first, Nathanial was the baby, the toddler, the child that rebelled enough to always find himself being held in comparison to his perfect sister; Lydia. A running theme that always imprinted on his brain until one day he was old enough to understand and want to please his parents, (though it was mostly Harold). His father’s approval was the praise he found himself always wanting to sought, which only fuelled him to do well in school and with his studies, at a young age it was more of a need so he wouldn’t be shouted at, in a way his sister Cassie was. Despite this, in their younger years they were as thick as thieves, both mischievous yet Nate was just better at hiding it— a shameful memory that he kept with him. Hindsight was always a funny thing, right? Looking back he’d recognise that maybe he wasn’t that sly, just that his father always took his anger and outrage at his younger sister, something that he never really had his eyes open to— until the night Cassie left for good, early hours of the morning a heated argument had Nate being witness to physical abuse, his sister leaving and never looking back, him instantly jumping to Harold’s throat, not willing to look the other way and accept that as their normality.

Despite his changing views on the man he idolised, he still found himself enrolling within the police academy, that imprinted scar deep within his brain not yet being able to adjust his father’s life he was leading. It wasn’t until he unfortunately— or more fortunately, for Nate, gained an injury during his training that had him stuck and incapable of performing his usual daily tasks, allowed him to reflect on the path he was heading down. In his identity crisis moments, not really knowing who he actually was, he pulled out of the career he had built up to, the darkness parts of his mind had him take more and more of his prescribed medication up until the point he became reliant; addicted and not being able to truly function without OxyContin. Eventually his pain relief didn’t hit his addictive needs and he sort for a harder drug, all while knowing that he couldn’t continue to lie for the signature that would ease his mind, he took to dealers, getting his heroin high to numb every single nerve in his body. It was Cole Monroe that had pushed him through his own version of rehab, getting Nate clean after a deep spiral, as well as crazed fix on the woman who said she’d wait for him to get clean. Alicia. The most breath-taking woman he’d ever laid eyes on—- her beauty never reflected to her heart as when he was sober and vulnerable enough to let her see him, she was gone.

Finding his footing and the life he wanted to leas only created a struggle for Nate, even to the present day he doesn’t know who’s looking back at him in the mirror, yet he seems so well put together from the outside. Vice President to his long life friend, owner of Lust— an establishment he originally took by sheer brute force from an overly handsy male, only dangling the wad of cash from his bloodied hands afterwards, a business that also enabled product for the Sons to be stored and moved. Each choice he made had always been a subtle subconscious “fuck you” to his father; chief of police. You really did get wiser with age and the more years that past by for Nate, the more he wanted to be that solid protection for his younger sister, something he should have been decades ago, yet he was constantly making up for lost time and never not backing in her corner. That’s not to say he never looked out for Lydia and Logan, he loved them entirely the same even despite the affiliation differences. His siblings to present day, are the only family he finds himself caring for; only being able to see Harold Donovan as the man that took a hand to his own blood.

Headcannon:

Will protect his sisters like his life depended on it— even if it’s not welcome.

Has a one eyed ginger Maine coon called Chip.

Smokes enough cigarettes to have his doctor concerned yet doesn’t stop as it eases his nerves

Is not able to hold down a relationship; fear of not being good enough still prominent.

Avid boxer, takes part in illegal fights.

Can be a sarcastic little shit but his hearts as good as gold.

Synths put so much thought into bringing all the characters she writes to life, you sometimes almost feel as if you are watching them play out on TV.

StanQuest

Something clicked on in my brain a couple months ago and suddenly Sebastian Stan became the hottest man alive. So I decided to watch everything he’s ever been in. A friend and I called it StanQuest.

Here are my spoiler-free reviews for anyone considering something similar (in inverse chronological order starting with latest works and going back in time. The stars are an overall rating of the work, not of Sebastian’s performance.

This only lists things I could find streaming for free or a price I was willing to pay. It does not count after credits scenes, music videos, or works in which he was uncredited.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) - TV show - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - This started it all. I very much enjoyed it. Good balance of humor and action, heart and heroics. I’ve watched it four times already, and will watch it again. Bucky Barnes is my favorite character of his and this is my favorite story of Bucky's so far. I can’t wait to see what he does next. (And I have a lot to say about how they treat his trauma in this show. I’ve definitely written about it before and may again.)

Monday (2020) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐ - This is the one where he gets naked. If that’s all you’re looking for, enjoy. It was a very realistic portrayal of a relationship between two deeply flawed people. It can get depressing. But hey, penis.

The Devil All the Time (2020) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - If you think Monday is depressing, this movie says “hold my beer”. But something about it is just captivating. It’s really disturbing, and if you’ve ever been screwed over by American Evangelical Christianity it might be more disturbing. Still, I’ve watched it twice. And as much of a bastard as Lee Bodecker is, he also looks really cuddly. He’s just barely in it.

The Last Full Measure (2019) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - You will cry. A lot. It’s based on a true story. Sebastian plays a man who cares more about his career than this weird quest dumped on his desk by his boss, but changes his mind and his heart as he investigates why a war hero was denied a medal of honor 34 years before. Definitely recommend.

Endings, Beginnings (2019) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - One of two love interests in the complicated life of Shailene Woodley’s Daphne, Sebastian is an adorable mess. The editing is interesting and fresh feeling. Watch it and you’ll see what I mean. Fair amount of sex in this movie, and you see his butt. It’s a very nice butt. I’ve watched this one a few times so far.

Avengers: Endgame (2019) - Movie - ⭐⭐ - There is no reason to watch this movie if you’re not familiar with at least most of the rest of the MCU. It plays merry hob with the rules of time travel, and only makes sense if you don’t really think about it. In my opinion, the ending is really freaking stupid comsidering his character’s history, but at least it sets up TFatWS, which was amazing.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle (2018) - Movie - ⭐ - If you’re into movies that are creepy but also almost nothing happens for most of the movie, this is the one for you. Sebastian is handsome as hell, but also a complete asshole. As fine as he is, I’m not gonna watch this again. I fucking hated it.

Destroyer (2018) - Movie - ⭐⭐- I had a hard time paying attention to the plot because it seemed like they made this movie just to get Nicole Kidman an Oscar nomination for wearing ugly makeup and playing a complete mess of a person. It’s a fine movie, and all of the performances are good. Sebastian looks surprisingly good with the short hair and goatee. Ultimately, the plot is depressing and the whole movie seems kind of pointless.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - Movie - ⭐⭐- Again, no reason to watch this if you aren’t already familiar with all the movies leading up to it. It’s long and the villain looks like Grimace and a California Raisin had an evil baby. The ending made me scream with frustration that I had to wait until the next one came out. Now I just watch them back-to-back if I watch them at all. It’s not a good movie, but it is part of a long-form story that I enjoy in general.

I’m Not Here (2017) - Movie - ⭐⭐- Another depressing one. Told over the course of one man’s terrible life, it’s a sad account of how much your parents can fuck you up. Sebastian portrays the middle part of the man’s life. J.K. Simmons plays the current day part and unreliable narrator.. Do not watch unless you are fully prepared to be sad for a really long time after.

I, Tonya (2017) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐- This movie is hilarious. I mean, the true story is insane and really stupid. The spousal abuse is hard to watch, and Sebastian’s mustache in this is a war crime. But the acting is great and it’s a very engaging movie. The parts that aren’t horrifying are pretty funny.

Logan Lucky (2017) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Watch. This. Movie. Sebastian Stan is only in it a little, but it’s a really fun, clever caper/heist movie and everyone in it is fantastic. I don’t want to say anything else about it if you’re going in fresh. I’ll be rewatching this one a lot

Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - If you ignore how kind of silly the conflict over the Sokovia Accords is, this is a good Marvel movie. Sebastian gets a lot of screen time because Bucky is the more pressing concern/urgent point of contention than the Accords. Bucky is my favorite character of his partly because of this movie.

The Martian (2015) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I’m watching it(again) as I’m typing this. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it. Sebastian Stan isn’t in it very much, but he’s very cute and so is his little story arc. Mostly I watch it because Ridley Scott made a fantastic movie. If you can get your hands on the Blu-Ray, it comes with a ton of extras. They made a very complete story that isn’t all seen in the movie. A lot of it is stuff about Mars, but there are also extra “crew” interviews, so there’s another chance to see more of Sebastian’s character.

Ricki and the Flash (2015) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - He’s not in this very much, but he’s very cute when he does appear. It’s all about the relationship between Ricki and her daughter. Definitely rewatchable. Meryl Streep is fantastic, because she’s Meryl Streep.

The Bronze (2015) - Movie - ⭐ - This is not a good movie. It’s about Olympic gymnastics, so it might be slightly more interesting right now while the Olympics are happening. Sebastian isn’t in it a lot, but his performance is certainly… memorable. Weirdest sex scene I’ve ever seen. Worth watching just for that.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - This is the one I can watch over and over. I bought a Winter Soldier face mask for when I need to feel like a badass. Bucky’s story is really sad, but he’s also extremely sexy with the metal arm and determined walk.

Once Upon a Time (2012-2013) - TV Show - ⭐⭐⭐ - This show is so stupid, but it’s also fun. If you haven’t seen it, the premise is that fairy tale characters are real and live in another land. Snow White’s Evil Queen casts a spell to transport a bunch of them to a town she creates in Maine called Storybrooke, and gives them all fake memories so she can be mayor and watch them all not remember who they are. Sebastian plays Jefferson, a.k.a. The Mad Hatter. He’s in a few episodes in season 1 and 2, and doesn’t get a ton of screen time, but he’s really cute and tragic as Jefferson. It probably helps to watch the whole first season just to understand his episodes, but that’s up to your tolerance for weird shit. Note: IMDB says he’s in an episode uncredited, but I’ve watched it and didn’t see him anywhere in that one.

Labyrinth (2012) - TV Mini-Series - ⭐⭐⭐ - Two episodes that tell a complete story. Sebastian isn’t in this one a whole lot, but he is adorable. It’s a strange story about religious stuff and a sort of Holy Grail that’s three books. It’s hard to describe. It’s on Amazon Prime right now, but they’re taking it down August 8, 2021, so watch it while you can.

The Apparition (2012) - Movie - ⭐ - If you like horror movies, you might like this. I did not. From what I understand, it’s not a very good horror movie. Watch with caution and expect it to suck.

Political Animals (2012) - TV Mini-Series - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I had to buy this through Apple and watch it on a Mac, but it was worth it. Sebastian plays TJ Hammond, the out gay son of a former American president who is clearly based on Bill Clinton. Sigorney Weaver plays the former first lady and current secretary of state. TJ struggles with addiction and relationship problems. His performance is heart-wrenching. The whole show is pretty great. I wish there was more of it.

Gone (2012) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐ - More of a psychological thriller than a horror movie. Sebastian has a small amount of screen time as the worried boyfriend. Amanda Seyfried is good. She carries the film well on her own.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - If you haven’t seen this yet, I’d like to know what it’s like under your rock. This is a movie I can rewatch a lot, and have. I 100% cried in the theater. Sebastian looks fantastic in uniform as Bucky Barnes. This is his introduction and the start of his ultimately tragic story (before he’s saved by his best friend, again).

Black Swan (2010) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Sebastian is barely in this. He’s basically just in one scene in a dance club. But I watched it to try to complete StanQuest, and I had seen it before. It’s a good movie, but might induce some nightmares, depending on what scares you. If Natalie Portman didn’t at least get a nomination for an award she was robbed.

Gossip Girl (2007-2010) - TV Show - ⭐⭐ - Carter Baizen is a little shit. The episodes with Sebastian in them might have made more sense if I watched the show from the beginning, but I didn’t want to. His character is an asshole, but a very cute one.

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐- The people who made this movie are bad at math, and their rules of time travel are sketchy at best, but it is funny and entertaining. Sebastian plays a ski patrol bro who’s paranoid about the Russians, which is hilarious irony to me. Worth watching if you want to laugh at something dumb.

Kings (2009) - TV Show - ⭐⭐⭐- Sebastian plays Jack Benjamin, the closeted gay son of the king of a fictional place. It’s loosely based on the David and Goliath story from the Bible. Sebastian is so sad and so gay. His family makes his life a living hell. Ian McShane is a force of nature in this. It’s only one season. I’ve watched it twice. I will watch it again.

Spread (2009) - Movie - no stars - This movie was practically unwatchable. It stars Ashton Kutcher and Anne Heche as a romantic couple, I guess? I ended up just skipping to Sebastian’s scenes and only watching those. Still painful.

The Covenant (2006) - Movie - ⭐⭐⭐ - This movie is so fuckig stupid, and I will watch it a ridiculous number of times. It’s about magic and teenagers, like The Craft for boys. Nothing about it makes sense. It’s terrible, almost irredeemable, but an evil Sebastian with magic powers is a siren song that will make me steer my boat right into the rocks.

And there you have it. There are a bunch of earlier things on IMDB that I just can’t find or don’t want to pay to rent. Maybe some day I’ll watch them and add them to this list.

also ill go find my headcanons about these things but:

in my canon timeline as of the year 2021, tj is 37 years old (except he will claim he is 29 for the 8th time its fine). he owns a sober nightclub called strawberries which he’s opened in a couple of major cities. his mother is currently the president of the united states. think hilary beat trump and you’ve got elaine hammond as president. so she’s in her second term. (literally tho bc in the show elaine is garcetti’s secretary of state like they just took the clintons and said: make a mini series)

he is a recovering addict. he will NEVER call himself a recovered addict as his addiction took over his life solidly for almost 17 years.

he is gay. not bisexual or pansexual or hiding it. he was outted by a tmz article that turned into a string of publicity at 15 during his father’s second presidential term. he is the first (and currently only) openly gay son of a president.

there’s a lot of trauma to unpack in his life. he doesn’t like to talk about it except with his closest friends and the therapist he’s had for the last few years. even then...he doesn’t like to talk about it.

i use thomas doherty for my FC from ages 16 - 23 ish. during his 20s it switches over to sebastian stan. in current canon he is solidly 2017 seb with the scruff beard and the big ole muscles.

depending on my canon, he’s taken these days. between the extensive plotting with @choicedenied‘s draco malfoy and @mieczlw‘s mieczyslaw stilinski he’s full up on real EMOTIONALLY invested relationships lol. that being said, the boy dealt in no face pic grindr for almost a decade so it’s likely he’s had a one night stand if your muse has ever been in the same city and likes partying.

It's quite simple, actually. I've seen some news about Bolsonaro on other countries and they just portray him as an idiot, but he is more than an idiot: he is dangerous.

He is openly pro-dictatorship and pro-torture; he closed Lava-Jato operation (an operation which founds corrupt politicias to arest them) saying that he ended corruption here (even tho we know that he did it because his sons were being investigated); he said that there is no hunger in Brazil when Brazil is back to ONU's Hunger Map; he said "Everyone will die one day" and "So what? What you want me to do?" about the epidemic; he lied FIFTEEN times about social and enviromental problems on his speech for ONU this year - He DARED to say that he payed 1000 dolars (5530 reais) of emergencial aid to Brazilians when HE DIDN'T. He just payed us 600 reais at the beginning and now is paying us only 300 reais.

He is genocidal, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, he lies withou even caring that it's obvious. He literaly said minorities have to bow before the majoritie (cishet rich white men). He is just as bad as Trump, but unfortunately it's not shown to the rest of the world.

Sebastian’s heart dropped. Not because she was a virgin, but because she was worried about being one. He understood the person he had become over the years. His public persona was not the one that he had wanted to be back when he started making music but someone had to be. He wasn’t stupid, he knew writers and fans liked to label people in a band and the truth was he was the one who got lost in the limelight in the beginning. He was a kid from a small country in Eastern Europe who had moved all his childhood and was pretty much invisible during high school, suddenly all the girls he met wanted to be with him and as a 20 year old, he was way too glad to jump into life’s pleasures. After that he was almost branded as the wildcard and as rebellion he decided to adapt it. With Y/N, however, he wanted to be a better person, he wanted her to feel safe and trust him.

- I’ve kissed two guys in my whole life. I was class president, part of most clubs in high school and then various societies in university. I didn’t have time to flirt, I don’t even feel comfortable flirting ... - she continued rambling. He had noticed that Y/N tended to ramble on whenever she got nervous. - And you have a lot of experience.

- It’s just joking, Y/N. I would never touch you without your permission and god if you never wanna do it, fine by me. I just wanna be by your side, even if your dad and granddad scare me.

- You sure you wouldn’t want to be with the guys in Maryland? I understand my family is a walking version of a debutante ball.

- Your family does have a shotgun as room decor. - he added making her chuckle. Sebastian wrapped his arm around her, kissing the side of her head as she leaned on his shoulder. - Besides, I get a chance to see baby pictures.

- That’s an absolute no. - she looked up at his baby blue eyes. Sebastian had pretty eyes, even when all she wanted to do was punch him in the face, she always loved his blue eyes, specially the contrast with the dark hair. - We’re not in that place yet.

- Y/N, dinner. - her mother knocked on the door from outside, interrupting their moment making them both groan. Y/N walked to the door, opening it slightly to tell her she would be coming down in a bit. Her eyes roamed from her toes up, she definitely was not dressed in a manner her grandfather would seem fit for dinner. She rushed to her wardrobe, looking at most of the clothing she had left there once she moved out.

- What are you looking for? - Sebastian asked, leaning against her bed. She had a bed full of pillows and some stuffed animals from her childhood, which created a very soft and fluffy bed that made him want to go to sleep.

- Supper appropriate clothing. - she started to throw clothing around. Some of it didn’t even fit her anymore, she had to remind herself to take them to a charity shop, however she barely came up to visit her childhood home. She normally went to her parents summer house in the Hamptons, never her childhood home.

- Supper appropriate clothing? - he furrowed his brows, taking a white bunny from under his neck. - I think you look lovely.

- I’m wearing trousers, that is sacrilege at dinner. - she throw even more clothing out, some of it even hitting Sebastian. She came face to face with a dress she had bought online for a Ascot Race and took it out. - Do you think this does it?

- You know I always love when you look like Little Boo Peep. - he chuckled making her roll her eyes. She placed her dress on top of the bed, peeling her shirt and yoga trousers out while Sebastian tried his best not to look at her by instead staring at her room. He knew Y/N was an overachiever, he found it quite adorable, but he’d never known about everything she had done in her life. She could see pictures of her doing various activities from archery to tennis.

- Right, what do you think? - she said, zipping her dress up as he turned. Sebastian thought she looked like a high class lady with a very beautiful sheer-ish white dress with a silhouette that was reminiscent of the 50s new look style. He smiled, getting up for her bed and pulling her towards his chest. - I look like Eliza Doolittle, don’t I?

- A hot Eliza Doolittle. - he was about to kiss her before her mother knocked again. Y/N groaned, pulling away from Sebastian and opening the door. He followed her, arm wrapped around her waist as they walked to the dinning table where everyone he had meet before. There were two vacant seats in the table, which they both took.

Her mother and father brought in the dinner while her grandfather had a burning look on Sebastian as he questioned his granddaughter on her internship at Rolling Stone and experiences in New Yorker. He was an old time man and the one who had inherited the fortune from Y/N’s great grandfather while his son, Y/N’s father, went off into becoming a reporter. They were a very traditional upper class family and he couldn’t understand why Y/N had pulled herself out of it.

- So, what do you do, Mr. Stan? - he changed the conversation.

- I’m a musician, sir. - Sebastian replied, a nervous feeling growing within him. Normally being a rockstar would impress people but he knew that her grandfather would not find it important.

- Where did you graduate from? - Y/N rolled her eyes at him. She knew where he was about to go and she knew he was about to trap Sebastian.

- I didn’t go to university, sir.

- Then how are you a musician? - she knew it. She knew he was gonna do that.

- Grandpa, it is not appropriate to judge people. - she said, as she cut onto the potatoes on her plate. - How’s business?

- We actually hired someone you know, Y/N. Tom Vanderbilt, you remember him, right? Great business associate, just like his father.

- I’m sure he is. - of course she remembered him and she knew exactly why he had brought that about.

- He’s coming for Easter lunch, tomorrow. - her father added breaking the ice that had formed but instead it only made her angrier. Sebastian was very confused, not understanding why the family had suddenly gotten into a very silent fight. Theseus coughed, raising from his chair and turning his head towards Sebastian.

- I’m gonna get more wine. Sebastian, why don’t you come? - the rockstar decided that it would be better to follow her brother than to be in that environment. He got off from his chair and followed him into the kitchen but instead of stopping, he kept walking until he reached the garden. He leaned against the wall, grabbing a cigarette, placing it on his mouth, and one of those old school lighters. - Do you smoke?

- Could have one actually. - Sebastian tried not to smoke in front of Y/N, he always tried his best not to do it but she really wasn’t around. He offered him one from his B&H pack and Sebastian gladly took it, lightening with its own lighter. He puffed the first cloud of smoke out, tapping it against the wall to get rid of some ash. - What are they so worked up about?

- Tom Vanderbilt. That son of a bitch. - he chuckled, looking over to him.

- Who’s Tom Vanderbilt?

- Y/N’s ex-boyfriend. - he took another puff of his cigarette. - He’s the supposed heir to Vanderbilt, they went to Yale together and he became our grandfather’s favourite.

- She told me about him, just never had a name added to it. - he shrugged, clearly sharing the same hatred towards the unknown man. - Why do they like him so badly?

- Granddad thinks that a man needs to have a swell time before they get settled down. Of course, Y/N is a private person and doesn’t really tell them why he really left.

- Didn’t he ghost her? - his interest was peaked.

- He did. Didn’t she tell you why? - he furrowed his forehead at Sebastian, surprised his sister had confided in Sebastian already. - He tried his best shot on her, she said no and then he left. We should probably get that wine before my folks realise we’ve been gone for far too long.

Trying To Find A Post

I’m trying to find this post on the Marvel Fandom, I don’t really know where it was posted the first time. It went a little like this;

RDJ, as the President. Tom Holland as the President’s bratty son. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the son’s body gaurds... I think there was something about Hiddleston being the butler.

This is important, I want to write a book, and make sue it gets turned into a movie or show!!

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 1 Ending Explained

The opening installment of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gives us a little time to catch up with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), as they begin to navigate a post-Blip and post-Captain America world. The weight of what they’ve been through clearly weighs heavily on their minds and the pair are struggling in some ways, but slowly making progress in others.

In his winged guise as Falcon, Sam Wilson proves straight out of the gate in the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that he’s more than a worthy fit for Cap’s shield, which was handed to him at the end of Avengers: Endgame. But after some deliberation Sam has decided not to take up the mantle of Captain America, puzzling Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes.

At a memorial for Steve Rogers at the Smithsonian, Sam gives a touching speech where he declares that a post-Blip Earth “needs new heroes, ones suited for the times we’re in” and then tells Rhodey that he doesn’t think anyone should carry Steve’s shield except, well, Steve. The shield is placed in a glass box – a relic of a bygone era – and a representative from the Department of Defense reassures Sam that he’s made the right choice.

Wilson recalls that when he was first given the shield, it felt like it belonged to someone else …and if it didn’t before, it does now, thanks to the good ol’ U.S. government! In the closing moments of the episode, it’s revealed that ex-Marine John Walker (Overlord’s Wyatt Russell) has been selected to be the new Captain America instead.

The same spokesman from the Department of Defense who gladly took Cap’s shield away from Sam at the Smithsonian and locked it away apparently had other plans for it all along. He tells a crowd of excited onlookers that the DoD and the President are about to introduce a new hero that embodies America’s greatest values. Within seconds, we’re meeting our new Cap, who arrives brandishing Steve’s iconic shield with a cheeky wink.

It was confirmed that Russell – son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn – would be playing Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ages ago, but it’s pretty exciting to witness him arrive on the scene. Understandably, Sam is less excited than us – he clearly wasn’t privy to what we can only assume was a whole host of behind-the-scenes marketing decisions leading to this moment.

Walker is an asset that the U.S. government can control and who probably won’t have the same doubts Steve did about following their orders. When we first see him, his Cap suit seems ill-fitting and off, almost like it was focus-grouped into the ground – and it probably was. The suit isn’t too far off the one Walker actually wears in his latter-day Marvel Comics appearances, however, despite its corrupted vibe.

Make no mistake, Russell’s John Walker is a key addition to the MCU, but whether he will end up being a hero or a villain may remain uncertain when the series has finished up its run on Disney+.

Walker was originally introduced into the pages of Marvel Comics as “Super-Patriot” in Mark Gruenwald’s Captain America #323 back in 1986. He was created as a kind of anti-Steve Rogers by Gruenwald, who described him as “a patriotic villain.” Walker eventually replaced Steve as Captain America for a time, when Steve refused a governmental demand to essentially become an employee under their control. The circumstances are a little different here, but Walker-as-Cap has precedent in Marvel history.

Right now (and often in the comics, too) Walker’s a wild card, and him taking up the Captain America mantle so soon after Steve relinquished it will likely prickle Sam and Bucky’s reverence for Steve’s legacy. But the government wasn’t exactly seeing eye-to-eye with Steve before he disappeared, and they clearly weren’t happy when Steve chose Sam to be the next Captain America.

“John Walker wouldn’t be in this series if he was causing everything to go well,” Russell explained to USA Today. “There’s a dynamic he adds that somewhat complicates the relationship of everybody involved.”

We will have to wait until The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2 to find out whether Sam and Bucky will get together and hash out a plan of action to address both the surprise installation of Walker and the rising threat of the Flag-Smashers, a violent underground group who no longer believe that good fences make good neighbors after the chaos of the Blip.

Could the two even be connected? It seems a little convenient that there’s an anti-patriotic group out there just ready and waiting for John Walker’s new Cap to make an example out of them…
