The weekend you spent with Bradley was the happiest you could remember being in a long time.
Even when you were together before, you lacked this air of understanding and dedication that came from the conversation you had early Saturday afternoon, and it made all the difference. You were able to just be, enjoying every moment, with no worry about what would happen next with him, because you knew he felt the same and you would figure it out together.
You spent the rest of the day and all of Sunday holed up in your house. You cooked together and watched movies and napped and reconnected physically as well as emotionally, and it made saying goodbye late on Sunday night that much harder. You kissed at your front door for a long time before he finally left to return to his own place. He had contemplated staying the night again, but you both had early mornings to start the week, and you knew it would make leaving for work almost impossible if Bradley was laying beside you when you woke up.
Walking into your office on Monday morning, you still felt like you were floating on cloud 9. When you got to your desk and saw an arrangement of carnations and daisies, you gasped in delight. You drew your bottom lip between your teeth, though it did little to contain your grin as you opened the card stuck between the flowers.
I had an amazing weekend with you, Bug. Can’t wait to do it again xx
It took everything in you not to squeal out loud, but inside, you’re screaming.
“Nice flowers,” your coworker Lauren commented as she walked by your desk on her way to get to hers. She wiggled her eyebrows at you playfully, like she was looking for gossip. “Hot date this weekend?”
You laughed lightly, thinking how that didn’t even begin to describe it.
“Something like that,” you answered instead. You rubbed one of the flower petals between your fingers as you thought about how Bradley had woken you up on Sunday morning with kisses to your bare stomach and how you had lounged around in your bed naked until early afternoon.
Your emotions must have been playing across your face because you were brought out of your musings by Lauren’s laugh. Your eyes snapped up to hers and you felt the heat rush to your cheeks at the knowing look she was giving you.
“Oh girl. Whoever he is, you have it bad.”
She didn’t wait for a response before she flicked her blonde hair over her shoulder as she continued her way to her desk. You smiled down at the flowers again, the card with his note held tightly in your head.
“Yeah,” you whispered, “I really do.”
Your heart was so full as you sat down in your chair and dug your phone out of your purse. You opened your message thread with Bradley and then, pulling the flowers close to you so they would be in the camera frame, you snapped a selfie.
Someone sent me flowers. I think he might like me.
Once the picture was sent, you moved the vase to the corner of your desk where you’d be able to see it all day without it blocking your computer monitor. With one more wistful sigh, you started going through the motions of logging on and clicking through any emails you may have gotten over the weekend. Soon enough, you were caught up in your work, scrolling through documents that had been sent to you for review. You had slipped your headphones in as you normally did, so when you caught sight of someone hovering over your desk out of the corner of your eye, you nearly jumped out of your skin.
“Jesus, Paul!”
“Good morning,” he said brightly. He set a cup of coffee directly in front of you and you leaned to the side to avoid the brush of his arm from being so close. Your skin was starting to prickle for all the wrong reasons, as it always did in his presence. The smell of whatever cheap cologne he had on made your nose scrunch. “I brought you coffee.”
“I've told you that you don’t need to do that. I make my own coffee.”
“It’s no problem,” he chirped, pushing his glasses up his face. You did your best to offer him a polite smile, but you’re sure it appeared as more of a grimace. You pushed the coffee to the side, pulling the travel mug you brought yourself closer in return.
“Oh. Someone got you flowers.”
You took a deep breath, releasing it slowly as you nodded. “Yup.”
“Who sent them?”
He was looking at you expectantly. You narrowed your eyes as your annoyance started to turn to anger. You didn’t owe him anything, and despite Bradley not even being here, you felt a flash of protectiveness go through you. These flowers were from him. They were special to you, and Paul didn’t need to know that.
When you didn’t respond, he wasn’t deterred.
“Was it that guy from the bar? He didn’t seem very nice.”
“Paul, it’s really not your - hey!”
You tried to grab it before he could, but he had picked the note that accompanied your bouquet up off of your desk and was reading it with furrowed eyebrows.
“Bug? That’s stupid. You aren’t a bug.”
You snatched the card out of his hands with a scowl. By the way his eyes widened and snapped to you, he seemed shocked at the action. You suppose you couldn’t really blame him for that; despite how much he bothered you and, frankly, creeped you out, you had to work with him, and so you always tried to maintain a level of civility. But after Friday night, you were approaching your whits end.
“It’s not your business.”
“I’m sorry. But you deser-”
“I have work to do,” you snapped, unwilling to listen to anyone tell you what you deserved, especially when it came to this, to Bradley, when he was everything you wanted.
Paul gave you a pleading look but before he could say anything else, you put your headphones back in and turned back to your computer. You started aggressively typing notes, mostly nonsensical, to the document you had been working on before you were interrupted. You stared straight ahead, refusing to look at him. It took a minute, but he eventually took the hint. It was only once you knew he was gone that you stopped typing. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath and tried to push away the discomfort that had settled over you. You were starting to wonder if it was time for another email to HR.
You jumped when your phone buzzed. Picking it up with a sigh, some of the tension left you when you saw Bradley had responded to your earlier message.
Bradley🐓✈️❤️: I have it on good authority that you’re correct with that thought.
Your lips quirked. Despite the interaction you just had, your heart skipped a beat reading his words. You chewed the skin at your thumbnail for a moment as you contemplated what to say in return. Another text from him came through.
Bradley🐓✈️❤️: Happy to spend more time convincing you though
A full grin stretched across your face now. Truly, you didn’t need to be convinced of anything, and you knew Bradley knew that, but you were happy to play along. Especially when it made you smile and your heart fluttered like this.
And just how would you do that?
Bradley🐓✈️❤️: I have my ways. Wanna find out?
Consider me curious. Yes.
Bradley🐓✈️❤️: I’ll see you tonight then.
Bradley🐓✈️❤️: By the way - thanks for the picture. You look beautiful, Bug.
And the flowers I’m sure you paid good money for?
Bradley🐓✈️❤️: Barely noticed them. Too busy looking at you 😉
You sat your phone down once you sent back a few heart emojis along with a promise to see him later. You glanced at the flower arrangement before you got back to work, a pleasant warmth filling your body.
You were in and out of meetings the rest of the day, and when you were at your desk, you kept your headphones in and your head down, trying to stay zoned in and avoiding interaction when at all possible. You almost thought you were lucky that your boss had a tendency to throw too much work at you, because being as busy as you were meant that you didn’t have much time to watch the clock and wait for the hours to tick by. Still, you breathed a sigh of relief when 5:00 rolled around. You weren’t usually one of the first to leave, but you were eager to get home.
You packed your things quickly as you said goodbye to a few of your coworkers who were still finishing up. The last thing you grabbed was the vase of flowers. You brought them to your nose as you walked to the elevator. They really were so pretty, and smelled so nice. You were going to have to ask Bradley where he had gotten them.
You felt your phone buzz in your bag and shifted the flowers into the crook of your arm as you dug with your opposite hand to retrieve the device. Bradley was leaving work now and would be on his way to your house after a quick stop to shower and change. And, in a follow up message, he couldn’t wait to see you.
You were texting back one handed when a weight knocked hard into your right side.
With a startled gasp, you stumbled. The sudden contact caused your phone to fly out of your hand, and as your bag fell down your arm the hold you had around the flowers loosened. You scrambled to get a better grip on the vase, but then hands grabbed your arms to steady you, only jarring you further, and you watched in what felt like horrified slow motion as it fell to the ground. The sound of breaking glass rang in your ears, the water keeping the flowers alive spreading quickly on the floor, soaking the carnations and daisies that laid in a heap amongst the tile.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there.”
Your eyes snapped up from the catastrophe at the familiar, nasally, grating voice. They narrowed quickly and you took a step back, jerking your arms out of his grasp when Paul didn’t immediately let go. His face was the picture of innocence, but there was a glint in his eyes that had you unnerved. You couldn’t help but scoff. WIthout saying a word, you dropped down to scoop up your phone and Bradley’s gift to you while they were still salvageable. The thick vase was beyond saving and you were careful to avoid touching any of the shards of glass.
“I can throw those away for you, if you’d like.”
Your nostrils flared at his words and you glared up at him. With a huff, you finished grabbing what you could and stood back up. “That won’t be necessary.”
“I don’t mi-”
“I do,” you snapped. You took a deep breath, doing your best to center yourself before you got too worked up. You could feel tears prickling behind your eyes because of how angry you were and you refused to cry right now. “I won’t be throwing them away.”
He started to say your name again when your manager Gretchen rounded the corner to the elevator bay. Her eyes widened at the scene in front of her. “Oh no! What happened?”
You gritted your teeth before forcing on a professional smile. “Just clumsy,” you excused.
You could practically feel the judgment rolling off of her in waves as she eyed you up and down, glancing again at the mess you hadn’t even caused again. “Well, let’s make sure this gets cleaned up before you leave, okay?”
You felt scolded and shamed, your eyes hot, but you were thankful for her when she set her gaze on the red headed man hovering beside you and told him she had been looking for him. “I want to go over a few things for your next project. Let’s chat in the elevator.”
Paul couldn’t do much more than agree with her, though his eyes lingered on you even as he did. You took the opportunity to pivot where you stood and dart across the hallway to the kitchen on this floor. By the time you returned with a thick roll of paper towels, they were gone and you could breathe out a sigh of relief.
You tried to be quick with cleaning up the mess you had inadvertently created. A few of your other coworkers had walked by you, eyeing you in a way that didn’t just feel curious. Embarrassment settled deep in your chest, but even stronger than that was the overall exhaustion you felt. You hated it here. And you hated that you hated it here, because you genuinely liked what you did. But you didn’t know how much more of this you could take. You hadn’t spent the weekend applying for new jobs like you had planned, even if your distraction was for the best possible reason. You made a mental note to set aside some time and prioritize scouring LinkedIn and job boards this week.
Once you’d thrown away the combination of wet napkins, broken glass and stray leaves and petals, you took off the hair tie you kept on your wrist. There was an indentation on your skin from where you’d snapped it throughout the day as your anxiety got the best of you. You wrapped it around the bundle of flowers to keep them contained and just stared at them for a moment. Your heart ached at how some were bent and ruffled from hitting the ground. You swallowed the feeling, telling yourself you could do your best to fix it when you got home.
The office was mostly empty by now so the elevator ride down to the first floor was mercifully quiet. There was a crack on your screen protector from when your phone hit the floor and you ran your finger over it with a sigh before letting your head fall back against the wall.
It was only Monday, and you were already ready for the weekend.
To top it all off, you got stuck in a bit of traffic on your way home, because of course you did. When you pulled into your driveway, Bradley was already there, leaning against that familiar blue Bronco. You realized once you caught sight of his phone in his hand that you had never actually texted him back before.
“Shit,” you cursed under your breath. By the time you put your car in park and took the keys out of the ignition, he was opening the driver’s side door.
The wide smile on his face while he greeted you had some of the angst you had been feeling easing into something soft and warm; you couldn’t help but smile back at him. He grabbed your bag for you and slipped it over his own shoulder as he helped you out of the car. You held tight to your flowers with your other hand. Without skipping a beat, as soon as you were standing, you buried your face in the soft material of his Hawaiian shirt. A soft chuckle vibrated through his chest, but both of his arms locked around you and his lips pressed into the top of your head.
“Hi, baby,” he murmured into your hair. You mumbled the word back to him, snuggling closer. “Long day?”
You inhaled deeply, letting his scent invade your senses, settling over you like a blanket. You finally lifted your head, smiling up at him.
“Better now,” you promised. Bradley leant down to kiss you and you raised on your tiptoes to meet him halfway. You hummed in pleasure once you settled back down on the ground. “Mmm. Much better now.”
He grinned, but then his eyes flickered down, and his eyebrows furrowed slightly. You followed his line of sight to the bundle grasped in your hand at your side. Your smile dropped just the slightest bit at the reminder of what had happened less than an hour ago, but you do your best to swallow it. Instead, you held the flowers up to your face, mimicking the photo you had sent him earlier. Bradley’s eyes sparkled in recognition and his smile grew.
“Even better in person,” he quipped, and your heart fluttered, because even if his tone was joking, you knew he meant the words.
Bradley’s hand settled on your back as you made your way to and through your front door. You groaned in relief when you kicked your shoes off. You went to take a step toward the kitchen, but a gasp escaped you when instead, your body was turned with a hand on your arm. Before you could ask what he was doing, Bradley’s lips were on yours again. You melted against him, moaning into his mouth.
You lost yourself in the kiss and only pulled away once breathing became an issue. You knew your lips were swollen by the way they tingled, but you drew your bottom one between your teeth anyway. You peered up at him through your lashes.
“Hi,” he said simply. You couldn’t help the shiver that went through you at the rasp in his voice. The sound went straight to your core.
“Hi,” you breathed. “What was that for?”
Bradley shrugged, giving you a small smirk and a wink. “Because I wanted to, mostly. But also as a way to convince you of your theory.”
Your brain wasn’t quite back online yet so it took a moment for you to process what his words meant, but then your texts from earlier flashed in your head. You let out a breathless laugh which Bradley returned with one of his own.
He followed you when you walked further into the house this time. He leant against the counters next to you, watching as you grabbed the vase with the bouquet he had gotten you at the farmers market on Saturday. You took your hair tie off of the ones from today and started to combine the two arrangements into one. You only had one vase, and you weren’t ready to part with any of the flowers quite yet, so you had to make this work.
“What happened to the vase that these came in?” he asked casually. He rubbed one of the carnation petals between two of his fingers. You froze for a brief moment, but he must have caught it in the corner of his eye, because he turned to face you more fully. “Bug?”
“I uh..I dropped it, on my way out of the office. It’s why you beat me here, I was cleaning it up.”
You didn’t look at him, but you could feel him looking at you. You weren’t sure if you were just incredibly obvious, or if he just knew you that well, but he shifted closer to you and settled a hand on your arm again, his thumb running up and down on your exposed skin.
“Are you alright? Didn’t get nicked by any glass or anything like that?”
You bit the inside of your cheek and shook your head. You fluffed the newly added flowers, noting how nice they all looked together, and how the glass containing them was so full it was practically overflowing.
Bradley said your name gently, and you couldn’t resist the pull to look at him this time. His face was open and curious, and you could see the hint of worry there too. “Hey. Talk to me.”
You wanted to deflect and tell him that nothing was wrong, and that you were just having a clumsy episode, like you had said to your boss. You felt awful for ruining the lighthearted moment you had been having since coming into the house, and disrupting the overall peace you had felt since Friday night. But part of the reason you broke up the first time was because the two of you masked what you were feeling, and you were so determined to make it work this time. You had promised you would talk to each other. So you took a deep breath and let it out slowly. You convinced yourself it wasn’t that big of a deal, anyway.
“Paul ran into me,” you told him, trying to come off as unbothered as possible. He pushed himself off the counter, standing at full height. You could see the concern written all over his expression, now, along with a touch of anger.
“He ran into you?”
“Mhm,” you nodded, before releasing a long sigh in defeat. You wanted to be completely honest with him, even if it made you feel some sort of misplaced guilt for causing him stress. “He made a snarky comment this morning when he stopped by my desk. Read the note and made fun of my nickname. Said you seemed rude. Tried to imply that I deserved better. I told him it was none of his business. Then when I was leaving, he just…came out of nowhere and knocked into me. He grabbed onto me before I could catch my phone and the vase.”
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at the end, thinking of how, on top of everything, you were going to need to replace your screen protector. You had forgotten about that.
“He grabbed you?”
“To keep me from falling, apparently. I guess. I don’t know. He said he didn’t see me.”
“Bug…” Bradley’s eyes were wide, shaking his head like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Truthfully, you couldn’t either.
“I know,” you said softly. You suddenly needed to touch him, so you closed the distance between you and wrapped your arms around his middle. You could tell he was trying to find the words to say; you could practically see the wheels in his head turning while he rubbed your back. You were patient as you looked up at him.
“This isn’t okay,” he finally settled on.
“I know.”
“I’m trying really hard not to be overprotective or overbearing. But from what happened on Friday and then everything you’ve told me about him… I don’t want to tell you what to do. I know that you can take care of yourself. But something needs to be done here, baby.”
You sighed again, agreeing with him. “I’m going to apply for new jobs this week. And maybe I’ll email HR again tomorrow.”
“Can you talk to them in person?” he asked. You knew it was his version of a compromise, because what he really wanted was to talk to them, or him, himself. But you nodded, saying that you would go tomorrow.
“First thing,” he requested, tacking on a quiet ‘please’.
“First thing,” you promised.
Bradley let out a long, loud breath, and you hated that he was feeling this way. You could sense the frustration he had and you had to remind yourself that it wasn’t directed toward you, but rather, for you. It made your stomach flutter that he was doing his best to respect the independence he knew you were so proud of, even if the thought of him being overprotective of you was one you surprisingly didn’t mind one bit. You hugged him a little bit tighter, burying your face in his chest.
You stood there for a minute, arms wrapped tightly around the other. When Bradley finally pulled away, he tilted your head back up to look at him. The anger he had been feeling has faded from his face, replaced with the soft, open look he usually gave you. His smile was gentle and he tucked some of your hair behind your ear.
“I have an idea,” he said.
“Oh yeah?”
“I need to finish convincing you that I like you. So go get changed. I want to take you somewhere.”
After stopping at your favorite hibachi place for a pick up order, the somewhere he referenced ended up being the beach. Bradley grinned at the surprised look on your face when he pulled a blanket and a bottle of your favorite red wine from the backseat.
“Did you plan this?”
His only answer was the wink he sent you before he opened the door and jogged around the front of the Bronco to open yours. He didn’t let go of your hand once you got out, fingers laced together as he led you onto the sand. You didn’t walk too far before he found a spot to spread out the blanket. You kicked your shoes off before you sat down; the smile on your face never faltered.
You ate your takeout and drank the wine straight from the bottle, passing it back and forth between bites as you talked and laughed about different things. This section of beach was nearly deserted, only the stray person occasionally walking or jogging by. You nearly jumped out of your skin when a dog barking broke through the air, prompting Bradley to burst into laughter.
Once your food was gone and the drink recorked, you laid back on the blanket. You were meant to be watching the sunset, you knew. But the ocean breeze ruffled the curls on Bradley’s head and you couldn’t resist running your fingers through them, looking at him instead. He was on his side beside you, head propped up with one hand while the other played with the hem of your shirt.
“So, are you convinced yet?”
You giggled at his question and the way he wiggled his eyebrows. You hummed loudly in playful consideration as you pretended to think about it. “I think I need one more thing,” you decided.
“Name it.”
You ran your index finger over the scars on his cheek before doing the same over his lips with your thumb. His breathing hitched at the notion, eyes darkening in time with the sky.  He looked almost ethereal staring down at you with the orange and purple hues in the background.
“Kiss me.”
___
You’re surprised when you walked into work on Tuesday to another bouquet on your desk. It’s identical to the one from the previous day and a smile tugged at your lips as you approached the work station. You were going to have to talk to Bradley about the flower budget he seemingly had set aside.
You set your stuff down and reached for the note, eager to see what sweet thing he had written this time. Your beach date last night had been nothing short of magical, and saying goodbye to him at your front door was even harder than it had been on Sunday. You were sure whatever he had to say would get your heart racing in anticipation of seeing him again, more than it already was. But your smile dropped and a sick feeling started growing in your stomach as you read the words and realized these weren’t from your boyfriend at all.
You’re too pretty to ever be called a “bug”
You crumbled the note and snatched the vase up in your hands. You got more than a few curious looks as you made your way down the hall toward the kitchen. You froze for a second once you got there, seeing Paul at the coffee station with a mug in his hand. He spotted you instantly and you saw the way his gaze flickered down to the flowers you held. He stood up a little bit straighter and had the audacity to start smiling.
Your nostrils flared and anger consumed your whole body, and you took the last few steps you needed. You made sure his eyes were locked back on yours, staring directly at you, when you dropped the arrangement into the trash can with enough force to shake the whole bin. You turned on your heel and fled the room without saying a word.
It was only once you were back at your desk that you realized your hands were shaking and tears were stinging your eyes.

Regarding Us
“It was kind of nice, in a horrible, slowly dying kinda way.”
Dean bent his left arm and chucked it behind his head. The pillow adapted to the new position and sank perfectly around his hand. He was staring off again, eyes dancing around the cracked motel room ceiling, but Y/N knew he wasn’t counting faults in the plaster. He was watching memories replay in his head, trying to clarify all the hazy details so he could relay them to her.
He took his time and she let him. She lay on the other pillow; her nakedness covered by the thin, scratchy white sheet. They’d been lying in bed for hours, days maybe; she couldn’t see the clock or care to look. An occasional knock at the door brought them food, and judging by the amount of empty beer bottles and burger wrappers, they were almost through the weekend. Y/N didn’t worry about the time because she didn’t want it to end. Once she looked at the clock, she’d know the time and exactly how much they had left.
“Nice? It sounds terrifying.”
Dean turned his eyes from the ceiling to her and Y/N felt that familiar heat rush through her. No matter what filthy act they’d just performed, nothing made her heart more full, her body more ready than the way he looked at her. Thick lashes over perfect green; crinkles around the eyes and freckles that appeared darker the closer you were.
He shrugged a bit. “I mean, it was. Sort of. It’s hard to explain because I don’t really remember. But it was nice at first to forget some… aspects of our life.”
Y/N sighed and rolled to him, propping herself up on an elbow. “I can see that. Must have been nice not to know there are things out there waiting to kill you, or that if you went on vacation, the world might end.”
She was serious, but he laughed gently.
“Yeah. That.”
“Well, as much as it sucks… I’m glad you remembered. And, ya know, didn’t die.”
Dean licked his forever chapped lips and rolled toward her, mirroring her pose. He looked her over, drew a finger across her collarbone and down her right shoulder. He traced invisible letters on her skin and she shivered at his touch.
“Cold?”
She bit her lip and shook her head. “Nope.”
“Good.”
Leaving her arm, Dean gripped the sheet and whipped it away. It hung in the air for a moment like a parachute and then danced to the carpet.
“Good?” she laughed, gasping when the air conditioner hit her bare flesh.
Dean hummed affirmatively and placed his hand on her hip as he leaned in.
His kiss was hot as ever, as if his lips were warmed just for her. His tongue was thick and wet, always hungry, always hunting inside of her.
He pushed, she rolled. He scraped, she clawed. He moaned, she lost her mind.
There was something so perfect when they were together that Y/N almost couldn’t stand it. It was as if she was getting everything her soul ever wanted, needed, but she knew it wouldn’t last. It never would. It never could. He’d get his fill, ease his hurt a little bit and then be gone. Monday morning she would check out alone, drive back to the east coast and see what horrors awaited her there.
“I don’t want you to leave,” she said suddenly.
Her voice broke through the panting heat and Dean froze, hovering above her. His big arms flexed; his concentration broke. He blinked down at her and his jaw dropped.
“Y/N/N, I-”
She closed her eyes, embarrassment and hurt stabbing behind her eyes. “It’s OK,” she choked out. “I know. I’m sorry.”
“You don’t know,” he sighed. He dropped his chin to his chest and pulled in a slow breath.
Y/N’s stomach churned. She touched her hand to his cheek and he looked up again.
She swallowed down a shaky sob. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to-”
He turned his head, pressed his lips to her palm. “You know I can’t stay. You know I… The fucking world could end. Again! Please don’t ask me to stay with you. You can’t do that.”
Rejection burned in her gut and Y/N pushed at his chest, moving him away. He pulled out and rolled onto his side of the mattress.
“Y/N/N, come on-”
She was up and gone before he could settle against the pillow, rifling through a pile of clothes at the foot of the bed.
“Y/N, don’t…”
She tossed the sheet back onto the bed and it floated down into a messy heap at his feet.
“You can’t just-”
She pulled her jeans on and stood, staring at him. “I can’t what?”
Dean’s shoulders curled inward, and he held open his hands, unsure of what to say.
“You can’t go.”
She laughed bitterly and clasped her bra. “But you can, right?”
A big hand scraped down a darkly stubbled cheek. “That’s not what I mean and you know it.”
She rolled her eyes and grabbed a mess of gray plaid from the floor. “Oh, I know exactly what you mean.”
The door slammed. The chain clinked. Sunlight came and went.
She didn’t go anywhere. There was nowhere to go.
The pool was closed, but she hopped the fence and took up residence on one of the loungers. The April evening was chilly and she regretted leaving her jacket. She also regretted accidentally picking up Dean’s flannel when she stormed out because his smell was everywhere. She wrapped her arms around herself and sat there, legs and patience stretched out.
She had no right to ask him to stay, but she couldn’t keep doing this.
Over the last two years, they’d been upping their time together exponentially. A set phone call once a week, a plan to meet somewhere, always a text. Every morning, a text. Beyond the blood and broken bones and unrequited love, it had been nearly perfect. They made sure their maps crossed more than not, and always answered the phone.
Maybe she’d taken it the wrong way, read too much into things.
She couldn’t help it. She was made for him, she knew she was. Sure, there was never a prophecy about her; her name wasn’t chiseled onto an ancient tablet lost somewhere to time. No angel had ever come down from Heaven to tell her she was important, needed, but she knew. She knew in the way he always reached for her, always leaned into her touch, kissed her with such desperation and need.
“I didn’t mean to piss you off.”
She didn’t flinch when he appeared in the corner of her vision, didn’t even look up. She kept her gaze on the sunset reflecting off of the overly chlorinated water.
“Come on, Y/N/N. I’m sorry.”
Y/N sighed and cleared her throat. “It’s fine.”
Dean shook his head and sat down beside her. He set his arms on his knees, leaning close. “It’s not fine. I don’t know why I get so…”
“Angry?”
He nodded. “Yeah.”
“I didn’t ask you to fucking quit your life and run away with me, Dean. I asked you-”
“To stay,” he finished for her, a little harsher than she would have. “You asked me to stay with you.”
“For the week,” she defended.
His eyes narrowed. “That’s not what you asked and you know it.”
Her arms unfolded, her tongue clicked. She turned to face him, eyes blazing with pain and years of pent up questions.
“So?”
Dean startled. “So?”
“Yeah. So what?” She set her feet down between his and claimed her ground. “You think it’s against the rules or something for me to ask that? News flash, Dean. There are no rules between us. Never have been.”
He stumbled. “It’s not about rules.”
“Then what’s it about? Because for some reason the thought of being with me is so offensive to you that you felt the need to yell at me while you were still inside of me.”
The sky darkened with his face. Tiny dimples popped above his pursed lips, his eyes dropped.
“I’m not… offended by you. I just can’t do what you’re asking. It’s impossible.”
“Wow.” She leaned back, not wanting to be so close to the man that was once again breaking her heart. “Being with me is impossible. Cool. So cool, Dean. Thanks for clearing that up.”
Frustrated, he rubbed at the back of his neck and exhaled heavily through his nose. “You know that it’s impossible. You know that I can’t just quit and run off into the sunset with you. There are things I need to do. Things that only I can do.”
She scoffed. “Here we go again…”
“You think I like this?”
“Doesn’t sound like you hate it.”
He sat back and laughed under his breath, shocked and annoyed. “I hate every fucking second of this. I have never been able to live the life that I want. Since I was four years old, I’ve been pushed and pulled by shit that I can’t even understand half the time. I’ve been beaten and scarred. Hell, I’ve died more times that I can fucking count. You think I like this life? You think I enjoy spending every single minute with my brother just to keep him alive? You think I enjoy waking up every fucking morning wondering what’s gonna try to kill us that day? Or if I take the wrong turn off the highway, the fucking world will end? I’ve got Lucifer’s unborn kid in the wind. Asshole English dudes running around in my business. My mother is alive again. I was locked up for three months. Should I go on?”
Y/N bit her tongue and shook her head. “No.”
“No,” he echoed. “Of course not. No one wants to listen to my shit.”
Anger rose higher and she clenched her jaw, keeping a scream inside. “Fuck you for saying that. I have listened to every goddamn word for the last thirty years, Dean. I have been there every step of the way, part of your life as much as you wanted me to be. Don’t you dare tell me I don’t know what you’ve been through because I have been the one to continually patch you up.”
He buckled. “I know.”
“So why don’t I ever get some of that Dean Winchester magic? When do I get some consideration? When do we get to have the life we deserve? When do we get to push it all away and leave the danger and pain behind and just be happy? Every turn of the fucking Earth depends on you but…When is it our turn!”
She was shaking and he grabbed her hands, pulled them across the empty space. She tumbled into his arms and they held each other as the sun disappeared behind the mountain.
“I wish I knew what to do,” she whispered. “I wish I knew how to make everything better.”
He kissed her forehead. “Me too.”
The wind began to blow and their bodies chilled under the moon. It was time to go, but neither wanted to move. There were so many things they never said, so many words left to hang in the air, unplucked, unspoken.
“I’m freezing,” she said finally. She stood and took his hand, tugging him to his feet. “Let’s go in.”
He sighed. “Yeah. OK.”
“And maybe you can tell me all about how you killed Hitler.”
His face brightened. “Oh my god, did I not tell you about that? Fuck. I killed Hitler!”
His laugh was beautiful and Y/N smiled. He would be OK.
So would she.

Adventures of Chika Hanabusa: The Restoration of Earth
Disclaimer: This book follows the events of Percy Jackson and Heros of Olympus fanfic, this fanfic will not include Trails of Apollo, The Kane Chronicles, and Magnus Chase.
Chapter 3: The Conversation
Demeter PoV
I help my Roman children with growing a harvest of different plants that fruits and vegetables grow on.
"When are we going to see you again Mother?" Denise asks. Denise is a short African-American nine-year-old girl. She wears a cute T-shirt with a teddy bear and jeans. She got her father’s eyes and his smile.
“Next weekend child, I’m here to talk to your Greek half-sister about a quest and to bless this year's harvest," I say with a loud voice, I hope I didn’t ruin my children’s eardrums.
"Ok by the way I got an A on my science test," Denise says in an enthusiastic loud voice while she jumps up and down. I high-fived her and gave her a crushing hug.
I remember I used to be all innocent and hyperactive while I was living inside Cronus's stomach. Hestia used to scold Poseidon and me whenever we played too rough with each other or when we were too loud. I can't forgive Cronus for swallowing us when we were just babies, I still hear Mother's horrified shrieks whenever I think back to the moment. All I can hope for my kids is that they don’t have to deal with a crazy parent and live happy, peaceful lives away from quests and wars. Unfortunately, my children must endure two wars because of Cronus and Grandmother. Grandmother warned me of the future of her coming back to rampage.
Flashback (After the Defeat of Cronus)
I was sitting on a harvest field away from the other gods. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades just drew their lots and got their kingdoms. At least Hera, Hestia, and I get to decide on what domains we proceed over. Hestia chose to be the goddess of the hearth, while Hera was still at Oceanus's palace.
As was I wonder around my thoughts. RUMBLE! RUMBLE! CRACK!!, What is causing that commotion? A woman appearsoutside the crack in the ground. She has brown hair like the color of roots and eyes that are green like the earth She wears a pant that is full of metals and molten rocks and a shirt that is made of green vines.
“Sorry about the rumbling and the cracking noises. So are you still deciding deal granddaughter?" My grandmother, Gaia, asked in a low calm tone. Her voice is the movement of the ground.
"Not as of yet Lady Gaia, What do I owe such pressure for your presence?” I asked curiously. What does the Earth want with a goddess of no domains?
“I’m here to tell of your destiny. Your brothers have drawn for kingdoms, but you will have tougher work than your brothers, that is if you want it?” Gaia asked with full conviction, and she glared similarly to that of predators hunting prey. I had a feeling that she expected me to say yes to a proposition. You can never know what the old ones are cooking.
"It must be a serious deal if you are glaring at me like that. Am I going to inherit the Earth or something?" I say with nervous laughter.
“It will be similar to that; you will be in charge of keeping the Earth fertile and to keep the harvest going like that of your father," Gaia says in a monotone.
“So, you want me to take care of you, but why me? All I did was help my sibling fight my father, Zeus was the one who stroked Cronus down.” I questioned why Grandmother was willing to trust me with the huge responsibility.
"It's because you are the most responsible of your siblings. Your brothers are too ambitious for their good, Hera fantasizes about marriage, and Hestia just wants to take care of the palace. Now will you accept being a Goddess of Agriculture?" Gaia said while she was looking for an answer.  This is huge, I like growing plants and I like nature. I never thought that the Earth was offering a domain to me.
I jumped up, raised my fist in the air, and shouted excitedly, “Yes!Yes!Yes!” and Gaia softened her eyes and had a small smile. I bowed in front of her, and she touched my shoulders.
“Rise Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture." She shouts as a green light emits from her hands to my shoulder. I can see all the environments and civilizations within the earth, and I feel my whole pupils and irises turning green like Grandmother.
“You will eventually get more domains as you mature and eventually the Earth. Since you are a young goddess, do you want to have children and get married?” Gaia asks in a curious tone, why does a primordial need to worry about whether a goddess is married or not?
"I do want kids, but I don't want to get married, especially to Zeus and Poseidon. I want to be free from court life and have a farm. Maybe fuck some sexy men and women, doesn't matter to me.” I say in a carefree tone and waving my hands dismissively, I can just imagine my kids and I have a huge farm for ourselves.
"I don't blame you; Zeus and Poseidon think with their groins. Most of your children will live peaceful, happy lives, however, there will be two that will suffer tragic fates. One will forever be bound to the Underworld while the other will be bound to me.” Gaia warned in a sad tone. That’s not possible, How can Grandmother warn me about this? What does Gaia's prediction mean with one bound to the Underworld and the other to her?
“The Fates and even Ananke herself are not too certain about how your child will be bound to the Underworld and the other to me. All I can do is warn you about their fates, you will have to watch all your brood.” Gaia says in a sorrowful tone, I can see her with tears coming up in her eyes and looking down at the ground or herself literally. I'm guessing she doesn't like how one of her future children will be the one to take away her freedom.
"Promise me Demeter to love your children about all else. Your children will need your love to live. I'm afraid that you will have a similar fate to me and your mother, even if you didn't marry the king. The curse of the Earth Mother if you will" Gaia says with a bitter chuckle.
I sobbed about my future children’s cruel fates, and I cried “I don’t know about how one of my children can be bound to the Underworld, but if my child is bound to you. Please promise in the name of Chaos that no matter what, you will look after her.”
"Granddaughter I will not be the same woman that is having this discussion with you right now. I might become hateful and wrathful in the future. I'm sorry, but I can't promise you that I will protect your child. The only way to guarantee safety from my influence is to make sure that your child's will is strong and incorruptible. This is goodbye." Gaia says that a single drop of lava comes from her eyes as her form dissolves in the ground.
It seems all I can do is raise my children lovely and make them strong so that they can survive such cruel fates.
Flashback Over
While hugging Denise, I could feel Grandmother's presence growing more vital inside Chika. Persephone is the one who was bound to Hades, meanwhile, Chika is the one who will bear Gaia's hatred. Once Chika is awake, I will warn her about Grandmother and the other issues affecting my domain.

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses Episode 7 Review: It's Me, Mie
I now just realized that the manga, the original source, has short chapters, which is why there are three different segments into one episode. It’s been like that since the start of this show, so why did I just realize this until now?
Tumblr media
The first part of the episode has Komura and Mie drawing each other for an art class. The segment was cute, especially with the way Mie drew Komura. It makes me wonder if that’s how she sees him, round and smiley. I’m surprised she can draw that well without her glasses because if I drew without my glasses, my drawing would come out like how I draw with my left hand. It’s too bad that we don’t see Komura’s drawing of Mie.
The second part of this episode has Mie in the restroom. Someya talks to her and she gets up all close to her face and compliments her long eyelashes and nice skin. Mie gets shy over this and realizes that she had done similar things to Komura and tries to resist getting too close up now that she got a taste of her own medicine. I actually like this part. Maybe because it doesn’t focus too much on Komura and that it’s mainly Mie-focused that her thoughts on the matter is shown and how she feels about it. It makes me wonder if she will stop getting too close to his face to look at him now.
The third part was the longest with it being about Komura taking Mie’s glasses home for the weekend and him spazzing over it. No, he doesn’t do anything naughty. He just gets nervous because it feels as if Mie is looking at him in his room. This entire segment is just him fretting over her glasses. You can tell this dude is massively in love with Mie with the way he keeps conjuring up Mie staring at him. He even cleaned her glasses! Mie, on the other hand, had backup glasses and didn’t tell Komura this. Instead, she’s worried about her glasses having fingerprints. Fortunately for her, Komura cleans the glasses. This is like the weirdest segment in the episode because it’s just glasses but Komura is just super in love with Mie that he’s overreacting a lot. Like what his mom said, it must be puberty. I think the way the voice actress goes “It’s me, Mie” was super cute in delivery.
The fourth segment has Mie with bed head and is becoming conscious of it. She fusses over it and then asks Komura’s opinion. If he says she looks fine, then she will stop fretting over it. It’s nice to see Mie becoming conscious of Komura as her feelings grow. To be honest, Mie looks cute with bedhead!
I’m not sure if the shoulder massage segment is in the same timeframe as the bedhead segment, but it’s nice to see that Mie wants to do something nice for Komura and that she finally figures out something she can do for him to repay his kindness. Though, the way the shoulder massage was animated felt weak. If he wanted a good shoulder massage, the animators should’ve animated it with a bit more force. However, I understand Mie massaging his shoulders; I also like massaging people’s shoulders too! At my previous workplace, I tend to give shoulder massages to my coworkers and they said that it felt nice and that I’ve got a good grip for massages. Also, poor Komura getting shoulder pain at 14-15 years of age.
The last segment has Mie with her glasses, a rare sight. She catches another rare sight: Komura sleeping in the classroom. She takes the opportunity to watch over him and then take a good look at him. She grabs his hand and entwines hers with his. Note that she’s actually enjoying this as she’s smiling. It’s apparent that her feelings for Komura are mutual, but she’s too air headed to realize that she’s in love with him. I think the most awkward thing ever was when the camera pans to Komura awake and blushing. Gosh, I’d be super embarrassed if I did what Mie did and my crush caught me in 4k. Regardless, I think this was the cutest thing ever! The fact that Mie wanted to get a closer look at Komura and caresses his fingers shows how special he is becoming to her. This was my favorite part, honestly!
What I like about this show is that the romantic progression between the two leads never take a step back and always takes a step forward. I don’t know when these two will confess, but it better not take the entire show to do so because, sometimes, that’s the case for a lot of romance animes. I did read that the manga already ended, so will they adapt the rest of the manga or will they just get to a stopping point and make fans buy the manga to see what happens next? What do you think will happen with our leads?

Resurrection
@flashfictionfridayofficial prompt - "a ghost from the past"
Crowley had seen his Bentley explode. He’d seen the fireball erupt into the air, a cloud of flame and gas and ash. He’d seen the wreckage of his beloved car scattered all over the road outside the airbase.
And yet…
There she was, parked outside the bookshop even though Aziraphale had said that the car was at his flat. She must have driven herself here. Pristine, gleaming, not a scratch. A ghost from the past.
But was that all she was, just a ghost? Could this possibly be real? Or was it a cruel moment of hope, and she would be immediately snatched away as soon as he touched her?
The books and the shop had certainly felt real enough. The floor solid under his wary tread as he paced, examining every inch. The books maintaining their shape when he brushed his hand across them, rather than crumbling to ash like he’d expected.
He’d checked the shop thoroughly, making sure it was right for Aziraphale. Only a couple things had been slightly out of place, not the kind of things most people would notice. But Crowley had, and he’d fixed them. Despite its fiery demise, the shop was back.
And Aziraphale, also back from the dead, was certainly real. He and Crowley had held hands on the bus last night, in his flat, and again to swap back. Aziraphale had survived the Witchfinder Army, Heaven, and Hell. Crowley had gotten him back.
Could the same be true of the Bentley, or would she vanish and tear his heart out again?
“Crowley?” Aziraphale touched his wrist, the angel’s hand warm. Just as it had been earlier, brushing against the back of Crowley’s hand as they dined at the Ritz. “What is it?”
Unable to speak, Crowley just shook his head and gestured vaguely towards the car. Maybe it was just one things too many to cope with, after the week they’d had. But whatever the reason, he’d frozen. He didn’t dare approach that ghost.
Because if he let himself hope, if he let himself believe even for a second that he might get everything back…
It might all vanish, taken away from him. Hope was dangerous, especially for demons. He couldn’t possibly be that lucky.
“Is something wrong with the car?” Gentle, Aziraphale wrapped an arm around his waist. “I-I didn’t see anything myself, but I suppose you would know better. Whatever it is, I’m sure we can fix it.”
Crowley gulped. Then, shivering, he glanced to his angel. “Nnnh, I… Aren’t you afraid the shop might vanish? That it’s not really there?”
Aziraphale looked towards the shop and gave a teary smile, his gaze lingering on the door, the sign, the books inside. After a moment, he squeezed Crowley. “Not at all. It’s, um… rather emotional to see it, after hearing what happened. But I trust you. If you say the shop’s okay, then it’s okay.”
And Aziraphale—who Crowley absolutely trusted—had said the car was okay. Crowley drew a shaky breath, nodded, and approached.
The Bentley looked perfect, but perfect could be an illusion. Crowley reached out, then hesitated before his fingers could touch the metal. Losing the car again would be one heartbreak too many for a single weekend.
“It’s all right,” Aziraphale said softly. “Have faith, my dear.”
“You’re asking a demon to have faith?” Crowley snapped, darting a glare at his angel. But then, although it was fucking terrifying, he rested his hand on the Bentley’s bonnet.
The car was solid and real under his hand, and the rapid pounding of his heart eased. A grin spread, his whole corporation relaxing. He reached back his other hand, grasped Aziraphale’s, and squeezed hard. “Angel.”
“I’m here.” Aziraphale squeezed too, thumb stroking across Crowley’s skin. “Are you all right, Crowley?”
“‘Course I’m all right. Both of you came back to me,” Crowley said, turning to smile at Aziraphale. He held onto his angel and his car, the bookshop standing proud beside them. Everything was back in place. “Happiest damn demon in all Creation, me.”

Hungry Eyes
Tumblr media
masterlist
Summary: Spencer is tired of hiding your relationship.
A/N: The idea for this fic came from a lovely anon that requested a fic based on She’s So Nice by Pink Guy. I also drew inspo from Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen (strange mix, but stay with me here.) So basically, a lot of Dom!Spencer goodness. I’d like to say a huge thank you for almost 1k followers, because wow. I never imagined 5 people would actually want to read my writing. I love you all, and I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Let me know if you’d like to be tagged in future works!
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem! Reader
Warnings: swearing, jealousy, degradation, spitting, slapping, oral sex (male and female receiving), spanking, vaginal penetration, unprotected sex
Word Count: 5.5k
“That is one fine piece of ass. Don’t think I could get any work done with a sweet little thing like that prancing around my precinct,” mutters yet another sleezeball detective, beady eyes trained on you like a lion might study their prospective prey. It’s moments like these that Spencer has to remind himself that patience is a virtue – that he must bite his tongue because he’s at work and that means he has to act professional. Even if those around him don’t seem capable of affording him the same luxury.
So, it’s with a clenched jaw and all the self-restraint that he can muster that Spencer forces himself to focus on the task at hand. Because Spencer is a professional, and there are more pressing matters that demand his undivided attention. The detective could be dealt with later – in the form of a complaint to the higher ups. But for now, patience.
Usually, this wouldn’t be a problem. Years on the job had taught Spencer to remain level headed no matter the circumstance. Usually, Spencer could tune out the locker room talk in favor of immersing himself into the case. But when it came to you, or rather, people who dared to look upon you with eyes laden with lustful intentions, Spencer had a rather short fuse.
It happens often, and he supposes that he shouldn’t be surprised. You’d certainly turned his head the first time he was fortunate enough to lay eyes on you. He’d nearly broken his neck trying to steal another glimpse of you as you walked past him on your way to Emily’s office on your first day. No one would ever describe Spencer Reid as forward, but on that day, he was the most brazen he’d ever been.
Throwing caution to the wind, Spencer made a split-second decision stop you and introduce himself.
It was the best decision he would ever make.
So, yes – he understood why the head of everyone you passed turned your way, eager to bask in your unparalleled beauty. But that didn’t mean that he had to like it. In fact, every time Spencer caught some imprudent bastard leering at you, he had to remind himself that enacting physical force on another person with no real reason could cost him his job. That, and he was above resorting to violence – or at least he was, until you came around.
Part of his anger was rooted in the obvious lack of respect. It didn’t matter if Spencer held your hand in his as the two of you walked down the street, or if he kissed you on the lips in the middle of a crowded restaurant. All the PDA in the world did nothing to assuage the lingering stares, and Spencer felt his sanity chip away with every passing day.
In the beginning, keeping his relationship with you a secret from your colleagues seemed like a good enough idea. Both of you were in agreement that you didn’t want to your personal relationship to affect your professional one, so when the elevator doors opened up and the two of you stepped out into the bullpen, you both were on your best behavior. And it was okay at first – Spencer was able to put his romantic feelings aside and focus on his work, all while still being able to make eyes at you from across the room. It was the perfect arrangement.
           Until it wasn’t.
Because it wasn’t enough that you were gorgeous – you were also the most selfless person that Spencer had ever met. Always eager to lend a hand to anyone in need – always seeing the best in everyone, regardless of if they deserve it or not. It was an admirable quality to have, and he loved you for it, but on days like today he wishes you were a little more perceptive.
That, and he wishes you’d chosen to wear anything but the tight little skirt and low-cut top that you were currently sporting. Not that he didn’t love the way the fabric clung to your figure like it was tailor-made for you – because he did - it was just that every other male in the precinct seemed to enjoy it as much as he did. And that made Spencer’s blood boil.
The tipping point comes when, just as Spencer is trying to hunt you down and propose a quick lunch break, he finds you engaging in conversation with the very same detective that had been spouting lewd comments about you all morning. You’re seated at the breakroom table, clutching a fresh cup of coffee in hand as you look up at the man, a polite smile upturning your lips as you listen to him drone on about how his amateur baseball team had won some stupid fucking tournament the previous weekend. He’s smiling down at you, endlessly smug and way too pleased with himself at having captured your attention.
           It makes Spencer sick.
His reprieve comes when your eyes flit to the doorway and you flash him a breathtaking smile. It makes him warm from the inside out, and Spencer wants nothing more than to plant kiss after kiss on your lips. Unfortunately, he can’t, so he settles on returning your smile.
“There you are,” Spencer greets as he crosses the room before coming to a stop next to you. “I was thinking we could go grab lunch.”
“Is it really lunch time already?” you murmur as you glance down at your watch. “I guess I let the day get away from me. Detective Yarborough was just telling me about the baseball game his team won this weekend.”
“Oh, was he now,” Spencer feigns interest as he turns to face the man.
“Yup,” you say, completely oblivious to the uncomfortable tension. “Didn’t you tell me you played in a baseball game once?”
This piques the interest of Yarborough and he raises an eyebrow at Spencer.
“You play?” he asks, tone laden with disbelief.
           “Not exactly.”
The detective merely harrumphs in response, and an uncomfortable silence falls on the room.
Your eyes dart between the two men and your brows furrow adorably as you try to make sense of the almost palpable animosity.
“Okay… So, lunch. Did you have anything in mind, Spence?”
“There’s a really good pizza joint two blocks from here,” Yarborough chimes in. “I could show you, if you like.”
He acts as if the offer extends to you both, but the way he looks only at you when he says it tells Spencer otherwise.
“The hospitality is appreciated, but that won’t be necessary,” Spencer breezes, clipped and to the point. He’s able to see in his peripheral vision the way your eyebrows raise in shock, but he’s too busy glaring at the detective to care.
“Uh, yeah. Thanks anyways, Detective,” you mutter confusedly as you stand.
“Anything for a pretty lady such as yourself,” he replies. “And you can call me Trevor.”
Spencer’s hands are clenched into fists and he has to actually bite down on his tongue to keep from doing something he’d surely regret later. You bid Trevor ado with a smile and a parting wave, and then Spencer’s ushering you out of the room and down the hall, hand placed firmly on your back. He can’t do much in regards to initiating physical contact, but he allows himself this miniscule act of PDA. The feeling of your warmth radiating through your blouse is the only thing keeping him from giving into his primal instincts. Instincts that are screaming at him to put that smarmy bastard in his place.
--
The hours after lunch pass by rather uneventfully. You accompany Tara when she goes to interview the victim’s family, and for the first-time all-day Spencer is able to repress his frustration long enough to focus on piecing together a geographical profile. By the time you and Tara return, the sun has long since disappeared from the sky and fatigue is rolling off everyone in waves. When Emily finally announces the end of the day, she’s met with absolutely no resistance.
Spencer immediately scans the room for you, only to frown when he sees that you’re nowhere in sight. In fact, he hasn’t set eyes on you in well over an hour, too busy wrapping up the days’ work to notice your absence until now.
“Has anyone seen Y/N?” Spencer calls out. His question is met by several shaking heads.
“I think she’s busy,” JJ sing-songs, eyebrows waggling suggestively. Spencer’s frown only deepens.
           “Busy?”
           JJ nods.
“Yarborough has been chomping at the bit to ask her to dinner. My guess is he’s got her cornered somewhere.”
           Of fucking course.
Spencer’s out of his seat and stomping through the precinct in second, oblivious to the way his coworkers exchange curious glances as he storms off.
He finds the two of you in much the same way as before, only this time Trevor is blocking your path to the doorway, hand in the air as he moves to tuck a stray piece of your hair behind your ear.
“– C’mon, babe. Say you’ll go to dinner with me,” Trevor croons in a way that’s supposed to come off as seductive. “I’ll make it worth your while.”
You lean backwards in an attempt to evade his touch, and you barely get the chance to open your mouth when Spencer intervenes.
           “She’s not interested.”
The detective whips around, snorting in annoyance when he sees Spencer standing in the doorway.
“What are you, her fucking keeper?” Trevor sneers, before turning back to face you. “Who does this guy think he is?”
Something in Spencer snaps, then – the same something that has been swelling inside him for months, threatening to spill over every time he had to pretend that the stares didn’t enrage him. He’s tired of pretending, tired of hiding, and so, so fucking tired of not putting assholes like Trevor Yarborough in their place.
Fueled by months of suppressed anger, Spencer manages to cross the room in about two seconds. He has several inches on the detective, standing at an intimidating six-foot one inch in height, so when he comes to a stop right in front of the detective, he’s looming over him threateningly.
“I’m her fucking boyfriend, and if you so much as try to touch her again, I’ll break your goddamn hand,” Spencer spits out, and he’d be lying if he said the way Trevor’s eyes widen in fear doesn’t thrill him. “Are we clear?”
“Uh, yeah. Sorry, dude,” Trevor splutters, raising his hands in surrender. “Didn’t know she was taken. My bad.”
Spencer tears his eyes away from the detective and takes in the way you’re watching on with an amused expression. He reaches out, and you’re quick to place your hand in his. Without speaking another word to the detective, Spencer leads you from the room and out the back entrance of the precinct.
“What was that?” you tease, eyes glistening mischievously underneath the street lights. “I thought we agreed that we weren’t taking things public just yet?”
Spencer crowds you against the brick wall of the building, pressing his body flush against yours. He ducks down swiftly, pulling you into a frenzied kiss. His lips drag against yours relentlessly, and all it takes is one breathy moan before he’s licking into your mouth possessively. Spencer slots his knee in between your legs, simultaneously groping at your chest with one hand as the other tangles in your hair.
When Spencer pulls away, he doesn’t go far. His lips leave a trail of wet kisses down your neck as you writhe against him, hands clinging tightly to his dress shirt. You whimper when his teeth nip at the tender spot right under your ear, and you can’t help the way your hips cant up when Spencer’s tongue brushes against reddened skin.
“I’m tired of pretending,” Spencer murmurs as his mouth continues to move against you, sucking purple bruises against your flesh. “Don’t fucking care about how it will affect the job. Tomorrow, everyone’s gonna know that you’re mine. Gonna mark every inch of you tonight – gonna fuck you until you can’t fucking walk.”
“Please,” you slur as you guide Spencer’s hand down until his fingers graze the end of your skirt. Spencer chuckles darkly against your neck when his hand brushes against the soiled lace of your panties.
“Didn’t mean I’d fuck you right here,” he laughs, prompting you to let out an impatient whine. The hand that was previously tangled in your hair slides down until it’s wrapped around your throat, and Spencer’s cock twitches eagerly in his pants when you push your throat harder into his palm. “Such a needy little slut for me. Ready and willing for me to fuck you out in the open, where anyone could walk by and see how fucking desperate you are for my cock.”
“M’ your slut,” you pant as Spencer’s middle and index fingers ghost across your center. “Only yours, Spence. I don’t care who sees, just - please fuck me!”
“I fucking own you,” Spencer growls against your lips as he tightens his hold on your throat. “And as much as I’d love to take you right against this wall, the things I have planned for you would elicit quite an audience. I know how loud you like to be.”
Spencer pushes your panties to the side and you let out a low hiss as he drags a finger across where want him most. You cry out in frustration when he removes his hand to bring it up to his mouth, tongue darting out to lick his finger clean.
“Just needed a little taste to tide me over,” Spencer murmurs, smirking devilishly at you as he steps back from you. “Let’s head back to the hotel. I’ve got lots I wanna do to you, pretty girl.”
--
As soon as the door to the hotel room clicks shut, clothes are flying off as the two of you make your way to the bed. It’s a mad dash as you both undress, and as soon as the last garment leaves your body, Spencer pounces on you. Your lips meet in a passionate kiss, and the way you immediately go pliant as Spencer’s mouth works against yours makes him hum appreciatively.
“Don’t feel like being nice tonight. Are you gonna let me use that pretty little pussy however I want?” Spencer inquires, though he already knows the answer. He’s known how tonight would pan out ever since the first roll of your hips against his back at the police station.
You nod fervently, hopelessly, and Spencer moves his hand up to grip your chin in his hand. The pad of his thumb traces over the swollen skin of your kiss bruised lips.
“What about this?” he asks, tapping lightly against your lip. “Are you gonna let me fuck this slutty little mouth of yours?” Spencer slips his thumb into your mouth and you immediately close your lips around the digit, suckling lightly. Your eyes never leave his.
“You’d do anything I asked you to, wouldn’t you, pet?” Spencer muses, pressing his thumb farther into your mouth until you gag around him. Spencer withdraws his thumb and his hand tugs hard on the hair at the back of your scalp. “Open.”
You oblige immediately, and Spencer spits into your waiting mouth. You swallow without being instructed, and the visual of it makes Spencer let out a low groan.
“Get on your knees,” Spencer barks out, and the way you scramble to follow his order makes him let out a chuckle. “So eager to have my cock in your mouth,” he hums as he taps his dick teasingly against your cheek. You open your mouth wide for him, and Spencer guides your mouth down onto his dick at a tantalizingly slow pace. You let out a moan as you hollow your cheeks around his head, tongue lapping greedily at the precum that gathered there before Spencer makes you take him deeper.
“Everyone thinks you’re such an innocent little thing, but here you are, letting me use you like a cheap whore while you enjoy every minute of it,” Spencer says through gritted teeth as you moan wantonly around his cock. It isn’t until he’s halfway down your throat that your eyes begin to water, mascara running down your cheeks as he fucks into your mouth.
Spencer lets out a choked sound when your nose brushes against the skin of his abdomen, and he has to fight the urge to throw his head back in pleasure. He doesn’t want to look away, not even for a moment. Not when you’re looking up at him like that, tears running down your face as you swallow around his length.
He pulls you off him just the tiniest bit before he’s forcing you back down, a string of curses falling from his lips as your head bobs up and down.
“You take my cock so well, pretty girl,” Spencer praises, prompting you to let out a muffled moan around him. The vibrations send a shock of pleasure through him and he can help the way his hips stutter. “Fuck, baby. You like it when I tell you what a perfect little whore you are, don’t you?”
You’re unable to answer, because Spencer presses down on the back of your head until you’ve taken all of him again. The pressure he puts on you doesn’t relent, not even when you gag around him.
“Fucking choke on it, slut,” Spencer grunts. “Don’t act like you don’t want this. You were just begging me to fuck you in an alley not twenty minutes ago, like some pathetic fucking tramp. You wanna act like a tramp, I’m gonna treat you like one.”
Spencer’s lips curl into a debauched grin when your hands come up and grip the backs of his thighs, pulling him closer and further down your throat.
“That’s what I fucking thought,” Spencer moans, giving several more harsh thrusts before pulling you off of him completely. Spencer reaches down to wipe at the spit that coats your lips as you look up at him with a shy smile.
“You okay, pretty girl?” Spencer asks as he caresses the side of your face.
“Mm,” you hum, nuzzling your face against his palm. “Keep going, please. Don’t hold back.”
“God, I fucking love you,” Spencer sighs happily. “Get on the bed.”
By the time Spencer fishes a tie out of his suitcase, you’re sprawled out across the bed, head resting against the pillows with your legs spread wide. Your teeth are nestled against your bottom lip as you watch him stalk towards you, eyes running up and down his naked figure appreciatively.
Spencer crawls onto the bed until he’s settled in between your legs. You present your wrists to him, just like you’ve done a million times before, and Spencer feels that familiar thrum of excitement rush through his body. He fucking lives for moments like these – moments where all his problems melt away to nothing. Moments where he has no other thought than wrecking you, thoroughly and completely.
Once your wrists are bound you hold them above you, and Spencer sits back on his heels, eyes raking up and down every inch of you.
“M’ so fucking lucky to be the only one who gets to see you like this.”
Spencer pinches your right nipple in between his fingers and you let out a squeak, hips bucking up, desperate for some friction. He kneads your breast in his hand as he lowers his mouth to the other one, tongue laving around you. A light nip from his teeth is all that it takes for you to cry out, eyelids fluttering closed.
“Spence, please. Need you to touch me now, pl-”
Spencer’s hand connecting with your cheek stops you from finishing your sentence.
“Do not tell me what to do,” Spencer seethes, once again gripping your chin to keep you from looking away. “Ungrateful slut. I should just leave you here, fucking dripping and desperate for a release that you won’t get. Maybe then you’d learn to take what’s given to you.”
“Please, no! I’ll be good, I swear. I’m sorry!”
Spencer narrows his eyes at you, contemplative.
           “Open.”
You do as he says, and without another word Spencer inserts two fingers into your mouth, pressing down hard on your tongue.
“Get them nice and wet, and maybe I’ll think about using them on you.”
You do as he tells you, and by the time Spencer removes his fingers from your mouth, you’re trembling underneath him from anticipation.
“D-Did I do good?” you stutter out, batting your lashes at him as you squirm under his gaze.
“So good, baby. I think you’ve earned my fingers,” Spencer hums. “Need you to be still, okay? You’re not gonna like what happens if you try to move.”
You nod enthusiastically, eyes fluttering shut when his fingers brush across your clit. Spencer spends ample time rubbing deliciously slow circles over your sensitive bundle of nerves, relishing in every gasp and whimper that falls from your lips. Lips that he’d very much like to kiss, so he does, and you’re more than happy to reciprocate. Spencer lets out a happy sigh into your mouth.
You get lost in the kiss, so lost in the way that Spencer licks into your mouth that it catches you completely off guard when he slides two fingers into you.
“Oh, God,” you moan when Spencer curls his fingers against your walls, fucking them in and out of you, slow and unrelenting.
“S’that feel good, princess?” Spencer asks, a teasing lilt to his voice. “Tell me how it feels.”
Your head falls back against the pillows as you struggle to keep your hips firmly placed on the mattress.
“Feels amazing, Spence. Always feels so good with you. Never want anyone else, only you.”
And fuck, if that sentiment doesn’t shoot straight to his heart - amongst other places. Spencer places a tender kiss to your cheek before he’s moving down to your neck and sucking a bruise right under your jaw.
“Yeah?” Spencer prompts. “Not even that stupid fucking detective? I’m sure he’d love a chance to see you like this.”
“So, you were jealous,” you chuckle between moans, and Spencer bites down hard where your neck meets your shoulder.
           “F-Fuck, Spencer!”
“Should I be jealous?” Spencer speeds up the onslaught of his fingers, scissoring them at such an unforgiving pace that you can’t help but roll your hips against them.
You regret this instantly, because Spencer’s fingers immediately pull out of you, leaving you empty and cold. Spencer tuts, shaking his head disappointedly.
“Dumb little whore can’t even sit still long enough to cum on my fingers.”
“Please, let me try again. I’ll do better, I promise!”
Spencer shakes his head and scoots up until his back is rested against the pillows.
“C’mere,” he commands. “Lay across my lap. Or can you not follow simple commands?”
“I-I can,” you whisper as you crawl across him, splaying out so that you rest on your elbows with your ass in the air.
Spencer grabs a handful of your ass and kneads it in his hands.
“How many do you think you deserve?”
You blush and smile shyly at him from over your shoulder.
“However many you want to give me. I can take it.”
           Spencer returns your smile.
“Good answer. I think you can handle fifteen. How does that sound?”
“Sounds perfect. T-Thank you, Spencer,” you mumble, cheeks burning red. Spencer continues to caress the tender skin of your bare ass, admiring the way the skin is completely blank; the perfect canvas.
You let out a whimper when his hand comes down hard on your ass before kneading the sensitive, reddening skin.
“T-Thank you,” you gasp out, and Spencer is quick to follow up with another strike against the opposite cheek.
It goes on like this until it’s time for the fifteenth strike, and by then you’ve devolved into garbled whines, ass bright red and marked up with the imprint of Spencer’s hands. His dick is painfully hard underneath you, and you’re in a similar state – arousal dripping onto Spencer’s thigh, coating it.
“Last one, baby. Do you think you can handle it?”
“Y-Yes,” you choke out. “Please, I need it. Hurt me, please.”
The desperation in your voice does things to him, makes him practically feral with the need to fucking tear you apart, and Spencer is quick to deliver the final blow. You barely even have it in you to cry out anymore – a feeble sob is all that falls from your lips.
Spencer’s hand ghosts down across your bruised skin until his fingertips trace over where you drip for him.
“You like it when I punish you, don’t you, dirty girl?” Spencer hums as his fingers glide over your soaked folds.
“Y-Yes,” you mewl, shifting so that your cunt grinds back onto his hand. Spencer indulges you - allows you to rock your hips against his palm as he watches on in awe, soaking up every desperate sound that tumbles past your lips.
Spencer pulls his hand away after a moment and you keen in protest.
“Can you sit up for me, sweet girl?” Spencer asks, and you nod, because of course you do – you’d do anything if you thought it’d please him. You struggle to pull yourself up with shaky limbs, and Spencer puts a hand on your lower back to steady you. “Can you straddle my leg? Yeah, just like that.” Spencer pulls you down and places a slow kiss to your lips, one hand coming up to wipe away the tears gliding down your face. After a moment of slow, sweet kisses are shared, Spencer unties your wrists.
“I want you to ride my thigh – can you do that, princess?”
You whimper as you lower yourself down onto his leg, eyes fluttering shut as you begin to rock against the hardened muscle of his leg.
Spencer continues placing kisses on your lips, your face, your neck – worshipping every inch of skin he can reach with his mouth, all while whispering praises against you.
“So perfect for me. Prettiest girl I’ve ever seen,” he murmurs as he grips your hips with steady hands, urging you to increase the speed of your hips. “Can’t wait to have that perfect pussy wrapped around my cock. Always so tight, yet you take it so well every time.”
“S-Spence, m’ close,” you slur, hands clinging desperately to his shoulders.
“Already? You usually last a bit longer than that, baby.”
“P-Please, Spencer, I can’t-” you whimper, tears once again pricking at the corners of your eyes at the thought of having to wait a second longer.
“Shh, baby. It’s okay, you can cum,” Spencer reassures you, and your shoulders visibly untense. “Cum for me, pretty girl.”
It takes two more rolls of your hips for you to cum on Spencer’s thigh with a cry of his name. Spencer rubs soothing circles into your hips as you ride out your high, murmuring broken thank yous as you come down.
Finally, you still, and your eyes open, pupils so dilated that your eyes look almost black in the dim light of the hotel room.
          “You okay, princess?”
           You give a weak nod.
“M’great,” you smile, sounding as fucked out as he’s ever heard you. You lean down and slot your mouth against his, and the kiss is slow and languid – soft and unhurried.
Spencer is the first to pull away.
“Need you to get on all fours for me,” he instructs. “Don’t think you need to put any pressure on that pretty little ass of yours right now.”
You giggle at that, before crawling off of Spencer’s lap. You assume the position, and Spencer places a pillow underneath your hips before trailing a line of kisses down your spine. By the time he reaches your ass, you’re writing against him, wiggling your hips eagerly. Spencer places a kiss to both of your bruised cheeks before pulling away.
You let out a startled oh! when Spencer licks up your center, parting you with his fingers before fucking in and out of you with his tongue.
“S-Spence, oh my God, yes!” you cry out, hands fisting in the sheets as he continues to work his mouth against your core.
“Love your fucking pussy so much,” Spencer sighs against you, lapping at your clit hungrily. “Could fucking lick you out for hours. You taste so perfect, Y/N.”
Spencer lets out a filthy groan against you, and that’s all it takes for you to fall over the edge, wrecked moans filling the otherwise silent hotel room. This orgasm hits you both quicker and harder than the first, and he can’t help but smile against you as you rock back against his face, desperate to prolong the sensation. Spencer continues to work you through your orgasm, stopping only when you cease to twitch underneath him.
“Such a good girl for me. Think you can handle one more?”
You raise up just enough that you can look at him from over your shoulder.
“Yes, please,” you beg, voice scratchy and raw. “Please, fuck me.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Spencer chuckles. “Do you think you can lay on your back? I wanna see that pretty face when I make you cum on my cock.”
You answer by rolling over, wincing slightly when your ass comes in contact with the sheets. You look up at Spencer with wide, doe eyes. You have mascara smeared all down your cheeks and your lips are swollen, and to top it all off, deep, purple love bites are dusted across the entire expanse of your neck and chest. Spencer had set out to mark you as his – so that no one would be able to deny that you belonged to him – and he’d done a spectacular job, if he said so himself.
           “God, you’re so fucking pretty.”
“Then come fuck me already,” you challenge, looking sated in every possible way – yet still, your eyes hold the same hunger that he’s sure is reflected in his own eyes.
Spencer leans down and traps your lips in a bruising kiss, and without warning he thrusts in you to the hilt. You cry out into the kiss, startled by the sudden intrusion, but Spencer sets a brutal pace that leaves you no time to recover.
“You said you wanted me to fuck you,” he growls against your lips. “Now fucking take it.”
He’s fucking into you so hard that you can’t even manage a reply – you just tighten your legs around his waist and drag your nails across the expanse of his back, no doubt leaving bright red marks in your wake. Spencer can feel his own release fast approaching – honestly, he’s been close ever since the first drag of his tongue against your pussy. And now that he’s finally enveloped into your tight, wet heat, that all too familiar feeling in the pit of his stomach is threatening to consume him.
Spencer’s hand descends from its place next to your head down to your clit, and your whole body jolts with the first swipe of his thumb. You clench around him as a litany of particularly filthy utterances escapes you, and Spencer’s hips stutter.
“Fuck, princess,” he groans, head coming to rest on your shoulder as he struggles to regain his rhythm. “You don’t even know what you do to me. You’ve ruined me for anyone else. Never fucking want to lose you. Love you so much.”
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” you chant into his ear, sounding like some kind of siren, luring him straight to his inevitable ruination. “I’m so close, Spence. Cum with me, please? I want to feel you. Please, baby.”
“Y-Yeah, fuck,” Spencer chokes out. “Say my name when you cum, princess. Want everyone to know how good I fuck you.”
And when you cum with a shout of his name, walls pulsating deliciously around his cock, Spencer is quick to join you. He continues to roll his hips against yours as you both ride it out, whispers of almost intelligible affirmations being shared between slow, loving kisses.
After a moment of post-orgasm bliss, Spencer leaves and returns with a bottle of cocoa butter lotion and a warm, wet rag. You watch on with heavy lidded eyes as he cleans you up, and for a moment, he thinks you’ve fallen asleep. It’s not until he finishes slathering your reddened backside with lotion that you speak again.
“You shouldn’t be jealous, by the way,” you murmur as he lays down beside you. “You’re it for me, Spencer Reid. I don’t ever want you to doubt that I’m anything less than crazy about you.”
It’s everything that Spencer’s ever wanted to hear, and just like that, every fear – every insecurity that had plagued him in the past several months – fell away to nothing. Suddenly, he couldn’t remember why he’d ever been worried in the first place.
“You’re it for me, too,” Spencer whispers as he pulls you until his arms and presses a soft kiss to the top of your head.
“We’re going to have a lot of explaining to do tomorrow, you know,” you remark as you nuzzle into Spencer’s side.
“Don’t care,” he sighs happily. “I’ll shout it from the roof tops if I have to. I want everyone to know you’re my girl.”
           “You’re a sap, Doctor Reid.”
           “Only for you.”
A moment of blissful silence passes, before the sound of your growling stomach sets you both into a fit of giggles.
“We never did get dinner, did we?” Spencer muses as he lightly runs his fingernails across your scalp. You hum appreciatively and a pleased shiver rolls through you.
“Nope. You were a little too preoccupied with marking your territory to even offer to feed me,” you tease as you run your fingertips down the planes of his chest.
“Well, now that that’s been taken care of - could I interest you in some takeout?”
“Possibly,” you sigh, flattening your palm on his chest, right over his heart. “Do you think that pizza place Trevor mentioned delivers?”
“I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that.”
          “Is that a no?”
          “... Look up the number.”

pairing: demon!jungkook x human!reader
genre: 18+, smut
summary: jungkook finds you at a bar and sets you as his night's target
warnings: oh lord smut. lots and lots of smut.
wc: 4k
note: i was kind of lazy to finish it, but hey, its 4k of foreplay; nothing beats that! (also sorry for not posting in a while i was busy with beginning of year exams *cries*)
jungkook first noticed you in a bar. on weekends, it was transformed into a seedy nightclub. he liked to go there while he was looking for something to eat; something to conquer for the night. he discovered a plethora of attractive females and, each with broken hearts and hungry gazes - all yearning for a nighttime lover.
he never believed his eyes when they landed on you. the state you were in was pitiful. he guessed that you had just broken up with this boyfriend of yours, hence the mascara and ruined makeup on your face. or perhaps it was a platonic breakup. despite your state, his mahogany orbs never left your figure. what a cute thing you were.
a pretty face that was exactly his type, the perfect curves of your tits, hips, and ass has his knees weak. if you were to ask, he would give.
of course, his initial plan had been thrown out the window the instant he saw you. you leaned against the bar, accepting an order, with a grin on your lips. It sparked something in him, all the confidence (whether it be from the alcohol in your veins or not, it didn't matter to him) and allure.
he knew your name. how could he miss the way your own name rolled off of your tongue so easily? how could he miss the way your lips formed a smirk after seeing jungkook? how could he miss your scent when you pulled him in to kiss you?
this was jungkook's specialty, depravity. wherever he went, he brought a tale of wickedness and depravity with him, the quality hooking onto him like a magnet.
he was a fallen angel, to be sure. a demon, a fallen angel. to be more specific, an incubus. he fed off of sex and vice, appetites and irrational cravings. he drank often in front of ladies like you, at bars or in beds, whose gazes wracked over him, and he fed off of human energy.
over time, after a handful of centuries, he had gotten bored of playing the same old games in bed. jungkook knew what he wanted, however, he was never able to satisfy that itch in the back of his throat, yearning for something to quench his sinful thirst.
he was tired, watching from atop the hill nearby, where he watched the sun rest for the night. just like you had. the darkness of the night overtook the city of seoul and jungkook knew it was his hour to strike; to feed his thirst.
so, the demon went after you, hovering over your small figure over the pathetic excuse of a bed. the soft rising and falling of your chest and the soft snores that escaped from your mouth once in a while, was all the proof jungkook needed that you were fast asleep.
jungkook extended his hand towards you, brushing his knuckles on your cheek, a tremor coursing through his body as a result of the contact. the energy you were emitting caused every molecule in his body to twitch in response. captivating.
oh how badly he wanted a taste.
when you stirred a little, a small groan leaving your lips, jungkook stilled. had you woken up? however, it was just a small movement you were causing in your sleep which allowed you to further curl up against the pillow.
he grinned.
it was time.
"let's go in that dream of yours, shall we?"
-
when he opened his eyes again, jungkook didn't expect himself to be in the same bar, be in the same exact position as before. however, this time, you were looking directly at him with your hungry eyes, mimicking his.
ever since heaven had decided to clip his wings, jungkook gave up on the little purity he had left, letting himself follow his heart.
so that's why he felt no shame in eyeing your figure up and down multiple times.
it wasn't necessarily anything that stood out about you, but it was just the aura you were giving off, that sweet feminine scent that lingered near the air around you, that small curve of your lips. but it might have mostly been the way you called for him, despite not knowing his name.
"hello, handsome."
jungkook didn't really have a preference when coming to his targets. he didn't prefer virgins; he always thought that they were inexperienced and didn't know how to give a good head. he didn't prefer the experienced either; he always thought that they knew too much and made the sex too sloppy. it was somewhere in between. and by the looks of it, you seemed like the perfect target. it had his insides churning, a long yearning for a good fuck. he thought he was going crazy.
throughout his centuries of living, he saw empires and clans of royalty fall and rebuild itself, being reborn. he didn't go out of his way to feel good, but he took whatever the universe offered to him. in this case, it was you.
when the surroundings suddenly changed to a much quieter one, where no one was bumping into each other, jungkook furrowed his eyebrows. it did not, however, take him long to notice that you were in the premises of your bedroom, the small plants on your windowsill being a huge clue.
“who are you?” you inquired, your voice scarcely audible. smirking, the man took a step forward. in contrast to his sparkling eyes, the moonlight from the window follows his body flawlessly, giving him a blue tone on his skin. you became aware of his exposed skin due to his lack of clothing. as you took in his powerful body, a flicker of longing tingled between your legs.
the man stayed deafeningly silent. instead, the man crept onto the bed, trailed by what appeared to be a shadow. you kept a tight eye on his every move because you couldn't move. you felt yourself spreading your legs wide as he crept over top of you. you had a tremendous want to feel him and be completely consumed by him.
despite being a demon, a sex demon (literally), jungkook still understood the morals of consent, making sure it was his top priority. after all, he wouldn't want it if he was in your position.
"are you okay with what's going to happen?" his words were like a captivating chime in your ears, quickly relaxing you and making you desire more. you found yourself placing our hands on his shoulders in order to feel his silky skin. how was it possible for a man to be both burning hot and icy cold at the same time? the dampness between your legs was unbearable, and you were drawn to him with all your might. your nipples perked beneath your shirt as you didn’t wear a bra to bed, you remembered. this made sense. something you remembered vividly. just a shirt and panties was all you wore to bed. clearly you must be dreaming, so you may as well indulge without regret.
"y-yes." you dropped your hands to grasp your shirt and pull it over your head to display your nakedness while looking into the man's eyes. with a hunger for your every move, he kept an eye on you. as he glanced over you, his throat vibrated with a palpable growl. you noticed he was completely hard as your gaze slid down your body with his. in a humble tone, you inquire, "is this real? this isn't a dream, is it?"
the man's grin makes your entire body twitch. you feel him quickly remove your underpants and fling it somewhere off the bed. you become acutely aware of the excitement between your legs as well as the heat emanating from his body. he lowers himself still more until he's right up against your door.
“would you prefer to be dreaming... or would you prefer to be here with me?” the man inquires, his tone innocent but with a sinister undertone.
when you reached for your thighs to give yourself some relief, there was nothing there. as your eyes scanned your surroundings, all you could feel was the chill of your own flesh. red. your vision was completely red. it was almost as if someone had brought in a red mood lamp and shone it throughout the room. it was entirely painted in a bright crimson color. your epidermis. the walls on all four directions. it was all red.
everything seemed hazy and perplexing, and you wondered where you were. you were in a new environment. some may even argue it was a living hell.
you sat up and wrapped yourself in the nearest blanket you could locate before standing up. warm wooden floorboards greeted your bare feet. “what?” kneeling down, you firmly pressed your hand on the wood once again to be sure you weren't hallucinating, but then again, what's to say you weren't hallucinating the whole thing?
'im not a lunatic... you thought to yourself as the warm sensation of the wood stretched across your palm. you straightened up and looked about your flat, trying to figure out what you could do about the red. you stood up straight and began to look around your apartment to see if there was anything you could do about the red. nibbling on your lower lip gently, you stood up straight and began to look around your apartment to see if there was anything you could do about the red.
the door to your bedroom squeaks open just as you were ready to turn on the light switch. the sound reverberated throughout the room with such eerie intensity that you were nearly persuaded your tv had turned back on and was showing yet another horror movie. then something happened. from your room, a man who could only be described as the devil strolled in as if he owned the place. you would be fascinated by this man's beauty if he hadn't just walked in like that. a scar runs from the left side of his jaw all the way down to his neck, giving him a strong jawline. his delicate yet sharp-looking features are caressed by soft wild hair, and his adorable small head is adorned with two pointy horns. it was the eyes, though, that drew your attention.
not the fact that he emerged from your room shirtless. nor the fact that he had claws and a commanding tail swishing back and forth. no, it was those soulless black eyes that were piercing right through you. your very being. you were in some type of trans as the mystery man - no, not man - thanks to those black coals. devil. That sounded more like it.
you couldn't take your gaze away, but as your feet shuffled you further away from this entity, they did all the thinking for you. it only appeared to encourage the beast to keep going before you pressed up against him and the wall. as you summoned the strength to speak up, your grip on the blanket trembled a little. “wh-what are you looking for?” your voice faded away quietly.
the devil had smirked at your frailty and little dread before running a clawed hand through your unkempt hair “i'm starving, my love.” before leaning in and drinking in your aroma, it spoke in the lowest, almost infantile voice. “won't you feed me nice and well, love? after all, you did want this to be real, right?” you weren't sure if it was the tone of his voice or the proximity, but you nodded in accord.
he grabbed your neck and ran his tongue across his lips before taking you into a harsh but passionate kiss. soft cherry red lips ravished your lips in a ravenous embrace while his hands roamed across your body, grasping and groping everything it could find.
a deep moan emerged from both of you as you felt the tightness of his jeans against your leg, causing a burning feeling. the burning of want burned through your skin everywhere he touched, everywhere he invaded with his mouth, hands, and body. it was almost a nasty, twisted euphoria that made your cunt clench around nothing in eagerness.
as the unnamed monster looked you up and down, an almost animalistic growl exited his throat as he took a deep inhale, you gasped for air. “love, you smell so fucking amazing for me.” he spoke in hushed tones through little pockets of air. “you're so delicious that i could devour you whole.”
the very thought of doing so appeared to amuse him, as he let out a brief but malicious laugh before narrowing his focus to the blanket still clinging to you.
with a scowl on his face, he clasped his larger hand around the one holding the blanket in place before yanking at it, only to have you keep it in place. the devil, with his head cocked to the side, gazed at you, perplexed, as if he didn't understand what you were doing.
“it's just that,” you murmured, tightening your jaw at the gaze those empty eyes gave you like a chill up your spine, "i feel comfortable like this...” you muttered the last bit, swallowing any spit you had.
but there was no justification or apology for him, so he raised his claw into the air and cut the blanket, ripping it open wide.
fear, as well as the lust racing through your veins, were clouding your judgment once more. the notion that his claws were so near to slicing you terrified you and turned you on like nothing you'd ever experienced. it gave a sense of how perilous it was to be so near to this creature, which was part of what made it so thrilling.
"baby, nothing is safe when i'm around."
those words, on the other hand, did it for you. you reached out to him as soon as you dropped the tattered blanket on the floor, exposing yourself to him. you drew him back into another intense kiss by wrapping your arms around him and springing up to wrap your legs around his waist. as he grasped your thighs to keep you in place, he was caught completely off guard by your sudden bravery.
each passing breath spent on one another battling for control, hips sliding up against each other as your damp panties rubbed up against his encaged dick, which was most definitely pressing painfully against the denim trousers he was wearing, made the kiss more hungry and animal-like. the cool contact of skin moving up against your back and down your underwear made you whimper.
despite his animalistic state, you always thought he was beautiful, a rare creature. "you're beautiful," you murmured, oblivious to the fact that you were saying it aloud. he laughed with his head tilted back. his neck was big and thick, but it was the raised markings that went all the way around it that caught your eye; they were woven together like chains, as if he had been choked with scorching metal.
the demon kissed you long and hard, barely pausing to breathe. His tongue was lengthy and had a split down the center. it was a novel experience that was strangely addictive. you became engrossed in the way it encircled your own. with his fangs, the monster simply paused to tug on your lower lip. as his hand moved down to your thigh, you let out a faint little groan.
he sang, “such a good girl,” as he drew you up into his arms. Jungkook snatched you up like feather. as you placed your legs around his tiny waist, his arms bulged. before he entered your room, he gave you a lengthy, scorching kiss. you had your arms around his neck, sliding your fingers through his hair and scraping against the base of one of his horns as an experiment.
the devil looked down at you as you lay on your bed, his crimson eyes flashing in the dim light. only those eyes and the white-tipped base of his horns could be seen with the moon blearily seeping through your blinds. it felt as though the monster beneath your bed had arrived to devour you. slowly, he moved his hand up the wall, flicking on the light and bathing you both in a golden glow.
you eventually let your gaze drift away from his, focusing on his toned chest, tight waist, and muscular thighs. when you noticed the bulge yearning to be freed from his pants, you licked your lips. he finally went closer, his lips brushing against yours as he crept between your legs. his hands crept up to the band of your shorts, the heat of his palm scorching and heavy on your bare thighs.
he yanked your shorts down your hips and flung them behind him as he kissed you. he tore through your shirt even quicker, softly cursing as he saw your naked breasts. you yanked on his shirt, trying to get a better look at him and to touch every scrap of exposed flesh you could discover. he sat back and yanked his shirt off, displaying golden skin stained with crimson ink and muscular abs that rippled with each breath. you were so focused on his appearance that you almost missed the expression in his eye as he glanced down at you.
“fuck, you look like an angel,” he said, reaching down to rip your panties apart, only to shred them. your moist lips were exposed by the chilly air as you gasped. at the sight, he bit his lower lip and groaned. “very gentle and plaint." slowly, he ran his hands down your body, starting at the rib cage and working their way down to your thighs.
his fingers became hotter and hotter along the way, till they were on the verge of burning. until he came to your knees and quickly shoved your legs apart and up, crimson streaks remained on your skin. smirking at your hiss of pain, his palms pushed your thigh back till they touched your chest. “so ready to be used,” he states.
"please do."
“well, angel, since you asked so nicely,” he leaned very close to your cunt and licked a lengthy strip. his forked tongue slithered inside your slit, relishing in the lengthy groan that came out of your mouth. he swirled above the opening for a minute, then slipped just the tip of it inside when you finally relaxed against him.
jungkook gradually started penetrating your pussy with his tongue. the warm, slithery appendage that slithers in and out of you with increasing ease, flicking at your g-spot and making you whine in delight. you exhaled with relief when he licked up to your clit, only to scream when he clamped his mouth over the delicate nub and sucked hard enough for you to see stars.
moans and groans emitted from your lips and the demon could have sworn he had never heard anything prettier. his mouth salivates against your lips, only causing him to dip down near your entrance and trail his tongue back to your little nub. oh how sweet you were.
"my angel's already close to cumming?" there was no denying that. he had already noticed you were quickly approaching your high by the way you tugged on his locks and the way your moans became higher in pitch.
the demon took two of his long fingers and slipped them into your pussy, a squelching noise emitting from the action. you tugged so hard on your lips that it was plump and swollen, the irony blood almost spilling from them. he quickly started pumping his fingers and curling it, sending you seeing stars. he wanted you to get ready for the real deal (aka his cock).
"god, please fuck me, please please i'm so close to cumming but i wanna cum on your cock, please," if it weren't for you sounding so pretty and desperate for him, the demon would have prolonged the foreplay.
“there is no ‘god' here,” he hissed, sliding two fingers inside your pussy and sucking hard on your clit as you almost shouted in delight. his fingers curled within you quickly, drawing you closer to the brink. your fingers ran aimlessly through his hair, yanking it back to keep him near. you scratched on one of his horns with your nails.
it wasn't until another orgasm crashed upon you that the demon stopped.
you were spent; messy hair, hazy eyes, drool dripping down your chin and onto your neck and some parts of your chest.
as sly as a fox, you felt jungkook pressing his heavy length on your clit, the warmth and hardness of it evident in the way it pressed up against the little nub. jungkook evilly rutted against the bundle, sending sharp pleasures erupting from the mere action.
you thought he would stop at a few thrusts, however, jungkook had other plans in mind. those being seeing you completely helpless underneath him (not like you weren't before).
with one more came a push, your insides clenching and squeezing the head of his cock like a vice. jungkook stills above you; only the tip in and you're already this tight? he allows a shaky breath to reveal itself from his throat, the sound coming out a little more strangled and choked that he intended it to be.
you took him inch by glorious inch. the two of you reveled in the pleasure, drinking off of each other's moans and heat.
the rest of the night was spent in each other's arms. it wasn't romantic, but it sure as hell was full of pleasure.

Night Changes
This isn't based on an ask, but I've had some early-Cap ideas brewing and think about the first time the team heard him laugh a lot. His and James' friendship is so sweet in SW--the beginning of it must have been such a shock to them both. SW credit goes to @lumosinlove!
So maybe James had bitten off more than he could chew. It wasn’t the first time, to be sure, but coaxing (read: drag kicking and screaming) his new teammate out of the carefully-constructed mosaic of scowls that made up his entire personality was proving to be a little more challenging than he previously expected. With most rookies, all it took was some elbow grease and overenthusiastic inclusion in group events to get them to open up—with his brand-new soon-to-be best friend, he had to handle things a little more delicately.
Sirius Black was a puzzle wrapped up in one of those freaky code-breaking machines from World War Two Lily liked to talk about. He was one of the best hockey players James had ever seen, but off the ice he seemed to shut down. The intense focus on his face smoothed out into almost perfect neutrality, and in the four months since he joined the Lions, he had never once smiled for real in front of the team. He sat in his stall and padded up in silence, then went out and kicked ass before following Pascal home like a living shadow.
Naturally, James took it as a personal mission to pry Sirius Black’s closed-off persona open like a stubborn oyster. He tried including Sirius in group events—the rookie went along with a quiet “yeah, sure”, but sat at the table and nursed a single drink for the entire night. He tried getting into friendly banter with him on the ice, but it was like Sirius had never joked with anyone in his life. Hell, he even tried finding him a girlfriend, which tanked harder than the goddamn Titanic.
“Rookie!” James shouted down the hallway.
Sirius jumped and turned around, obviously confused. “Me?”
“Yes, you,” James laughed, jogging over to toss an arm over his shoulders. “What’s up?”
“Not much.”
He waited for Sirius to continue, then rolled his eyes and gave him a friendly shake. “C’mon, man, how was your weekend? Has Dumo coerced you into being a stay-at-home babysitter yet?”
Sirius’ frown deepened. “What? I come with him to practice every day.”
Change tactics, change tactics— “Got any plans for Friday?”
James knew the answer, of course; it was always no or not yet or a simple shake of the head. If he was a less observant man, he would have assumed Sirius didn’t actually want to hang out with the team. But the longing looks toward their easy rhythm and the way he always tilted himself toward locker room conversations told a different story. “None yet,” Sirius said with a shrug.
James gave him a friendly slap on the back. “Good, ‘cause I’m having a party at my place and you’re not allowed to miss it.”
“Why not?”
“Because I want you to be there, duh.” The bewilderment didn’t fade from Sirius’ face, but beneath it—well, maybe James was just seeing things, but he looked almost hopeful. He ruffled Sirius’ hair and headed for the locker room. “Friday at five, rookie! I’ll be waiting!”
--
The week passed in a slog of practices and cold weather. Sirius clammed up more and more as the party drew closer, but James didn’t miss the way his eyes flickered between the rest of them like he was analyzing a play. He would make one hell of a captain someday, if he could just relax a little.
“Hey, rookie, want a ride?” he asked when the big day finally arrived.
“Don’t you want to go home and set up first?” Sirius’ brow furrowed. For an eighteen-year-old kid, he was awfully thoughtful. James couldn’t wait to see him let loose a little. “I wouldn’t want to get in your way.”
“It’s a yes or no question,” he teased, poking the bit of exposed shoulder through the widening hole in Sirius’ under armor.
“I…” He faltered, then the corner of his mouth twitched up. It was the closest thing James had seen to a smile from him yet. One point for Potter. “Sure, Pots. Thanks.”
“No problem. Meet me at my car in five or so, yeah?”
“D’accord.”
“Oho, fancy French,” James laughed, turning back to unlace his skates.
It wasn’t until thirty seconds after Sirius left the room that he remembered he never told the rookie what his car looked like. Horrible, terrible visions of the poor guy wandering around the parking lot—or, god forbid, thinking James had left without him—flashed through his mind. It would undo everything he had been working so hard to build.
“Shit,” he hissed under his breath as he shoved his gear into his duffel with reckless abandon and hurried out of the locker room. His legs would be stiff from trying to run so soon after a grueling drill practice, but it was worth it to save his friend. “Rookie? Hey, Sirius, you still here?”
There was no response. James cursed again and made a beeline for the door to the parking lot. Please, God, don’t let him get lost. I need him to trust me.
“Oh, thank fuck,” he panted as he burst out onto the half-frozen concrete.
Sirius looked up from his phone with a strange expression. “Are you okay?”
“Thought I lost you for a sec.”
“You said to meet at your car, yes?” He glanced between James and the car in sudden worry.
“Yeah, yes, absolutely, I just—” He made an aborted gesture and dug his keys out of his pocket. “I realized I forgot to tell you which one is mine.”
Sirius blinked at him. “I know what your car looks like.”
“How?”
“Because you drive it here every single day and you gave me a ride three weeks ago.”
‘Dumbass’ went unsaid, but James could feel it hanging in the air. He coughed lightly. “Right. Anyway, you can toss your bag wherever and hop in the passenger seat. My place isn’t far from here.”
Sirius took his duffel as he unlocked the car and settled both in the trunk with more care than James’ poor, battered bag had ever seen in its life. That was another thing that confused him about Sirius Black—he was so careful. He walked quietly for someone so tall, and each movement seemed pre-planned.
Each movement, that is, until he tried to get in the car. “Uh, Pots?”
“That’s m—oh.” James covered his mouth to stifle his laughter as Sirius tried to fold himself into the passenger seat and failed miserably. “I’m sorry, my girlfriend was sitting there last. Uh, there’s a lever on your right—yeah, there, just give it a pull and—”
With a harsh ka-chunk, the seat slid all the way back. Both men froze. It took everything in James’ power not to burst out laughing at the deer-in-headlights shock on Sirius’ face.
“Yep, that one,” he managed. “Nice job.”
They drove in relative quiet—James chattered on about weekend plans and hummed to the radio while Sirius watched out the window with the occasional monosyllable response. It took James a bit by surprise how comfortable he was, even without a steady stream of banter. Sirius might have been stubborn and silent and determined to foil all James’ plans at getting him to socialize, but he was calming to be near, like an anchor on unsteady water. Despite his overall quiet air, he was obviously paying attention to every word that left James’ mouth.
“You’re a good guy, y’know that?” he said as they turned onto his street. Sirius glanced over in surprise. “Most people tune me out within, like, five minutes.”
“I’m a good listener.”
James opened his mouth to respond, then paused. “Was that—Sirius Black, was that a joke?”
Something akin to mischief—mischief!—crossed his face. “Maybe.”
“Were you roasting me?” James gaped at him. “Oh my god. The guys are never gonna believe this.”
“Probably not.”
“You sick bastard. They won’t believe me.”
“You can give it a shot,” Sirius said with a shrug as the engine turned off. Pieces began to connect in James’ head as he stared, incredulous, at the rookie he thought would never even crack a smile. Four months of work had not been wasted, as he had feared; every joke, every one-sided conversation, and every attempt to get Sirius involved had been seen and heard and taken to heart. When he thought about it, he wasn’t sure he had ever seen Sirius actively agree to something unless James asked personally.
“We’re friends,” he said aloud, too surprised and too happy to hold it in. Not friends in the way James was with the rest of their loud, over-the-top teammates, but friends all the same.
“Well, yeah,” Sirius said as if it was obvious.
James unbuckled his seatbelt and socked him lightly on the shoulder, barely suppressing a shriek of excitement. “Love you, man. Grab your shit, we’ve got a party to set up.”
----------------
As much as it pained James to say it, having someone around who was six-foot-three was a huge help. There was no blow to his pride as he dragged Lily’s stepstool out; no grudging acceptance that he simply couldn’t reach those last two inches on the wall. Instead, he could foist any and all responsibility on his brand-new best friend in the whole wide world and focus on the things that mattered, like putting anything breakable or important far away from the grubby hands of his inebriated teammates.
His success was still ringing in his ears when the guests finally arrived—throughout the evening, James rode the high of accomplishing his mission to pull Sirius Black into his tight-knit circle. Every minute of those four months was worth it.
Midnight came and went, and by one-thirty in the morning James’ cramped living room was packed with tipsy hockey players in a vague imitation of a circle. “Non, non, I’ve gotta good one,” Dumo said, hiccupping. The room fell quiet as he leaned forward. “What do you call a body of water with a chicken in it?”
“What?” Kasey whispered, starry-eyed like a kid at Christmas.
“A swimming pool.”
The room stayed quiet, and then someone started to laugh. Slowly, they all turned to the source of the noise, and James felt a ripple of shock roll through the team as Sirius snorted. “It’s a swimming pool,” he said around a smile, his accent thick from three drinks. He had a nice laugh; James could get used to hearing it. “Like—poule, like chicken?”
His whole face was alight with happiness. James wasn’t sure whether to cry or cheer. That’s what I’ve been waiting for, he thought. That look, right there. Sirius fit in among the group like a missing piece of their puzzle, snickering away as if he hadn’t been stoically silent a day in his life. His laugh was downright bubbly.
“I don’t think they get it,” Dumo said into the rim of his cup.
Sirius shook his head, trying to catch his breath. “D’accord, so—so ‘chicken’ in French is poule, yeah? So a chicken in a body of water is a swimming poule. Do you get it now?”
A few oh’s of understanding washed over them, but several people continued to stare. “Too drink for this,” Sergei grumbled, though James could see the smile pulling at his mouth as Sirius turned to him with bright eyes.
“But it’s funny!” Sirius protested, so earnest it made James’ heart hurt.
“I think it’s funny, rookie,” he assured him with a clumsy pat on the arm. “And it’s my house, so I say Dumo gets a point this round.”
Kasey hiccupped. “Hey, anyone who makes the rookie laugh gets points in my book. No offense, dude.”
“None taken,” Sirius said, though his cheeks were pink.
James nudged him with his shoulder as Talker started a knock-knock joke. “It’s okay,” he said under his breath.
Sirius picked at the label on his cup. “I know I haven’t been very social,” he muttered.
“It’s okay,” James insisted. “It always takes rookies a while to warm up, so we’re just glad you’re happy. I’m glad my best friend is having a good time at my party.”
A heavy silence fell between them as Sirius looked over, eyebrows raised. “Best friend?”
“What, like you didn’t see this coming?” James slung an arm over his shoulder. “Yes, you French-Canadian nerd, you’re my best friend. And that means I’m your best friend, and there’s no take-backsies.”
“What the hell is a take-backsie?” Sirius laughed. “Did you make that up?”
James grinned. He had the feeling this was the beginning of an excellent friendship.

Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem!Reader Warnings: mild swearing, a single parent home, mentions of death (death of a parent & a significant other), mentions of alcohol consumption, and a lil pining, but mainly just FLUFF Word Count: 5.6k Request: anonymous: “I love your Spencer Reid fics! I was wondering if you could write something with Spencer and a single mom reader?? Thanks”
A/N: a very brief summary: spencer is infatuated by his new neighbour, a single mom to a five year old boy who likes to wreak havoc in their shared corridor. also, this one turned out to be a lot A LOT longer than i initially thought it would be but honestly i had so much fun writing this fic, it really could have gone on foreverrrrr ENJOY and as always let me know what you think !
-
For about a week after you moved into the apartment across from his, Spencer wondered what would be an acceptable excuse to go introduce himself.
Having been away on a case those first couple of days, he missed the initial opportunity. Later, his colleagues told him that was enough of a justification. Much later. Too late. Now the moment has passed, and he wondered whether pretending he needed salt or sugar was a good enough pretext. Lame.
He's caught glimpses of you out in the shared hall returning from the grocery store, or by the post box downstairs collecting your mail. Glimpses. Passing fleeting seconds. Never enough time to say hello, however enough to notice you were really beautiful.
Also enough to notice the little boy constantly tugging at your clothes. From what he could see, the resemblance was uncanny. The boy was your son no doubt. And given that Spencer hasn’t seen another adult around, he came to a conclusion you were a single mom.
It was now Saturday morning. Saturday. A day he usually spent grading papers and preparing class materials for the week ahead. And this weekend began no differently.
With a cup of coffee, he sat at his desk and began working away when an odd droning sound caught his attention. Buzzing. Yet it wasn’t mechanical, no. The peculiar hum echoing outside seemed more manmade. Childlike.
Yes, the brunette doctor deducted, the buzzing sounds he was currently hearing were most definitely airplane noises made by a kid.
At first, he decided to pay no attention to what was going on outside his door. He felt bad enough for not going to introduce himself, so he wasn't about to become the mean man from across the hall who gave out about playing children.
After taking a sip of his coffee, he proceeded to bury his head in the papers scattered across his desk. The sound wasn’t too loud meaning it wasn't a big distraction. He could continue to get his work done despite the clatter.
It was then he heard your voice for the first time. The melodic tone drew him in even more than the buzzing echo.
Dropping his pen, he instantly got to his feet and ambled towards the front door - now was his chance.
His hand hovered over the knob, but before he got a chance to do anything, he heard a slam. The noises stopped. Silence once again filled the hall outside.
The hazel-eyed doctor felt slightly foolish. He didn't really know what he wanted to accomplish by springing up so fast. Even if he managed to catch you, what was he going to say? I heard your voice, and wanted to see you. Stupid. You would think he's absolutely clinically insane. I heard you out here, and wanted to finally introduce myself. Better. Although still a little weird.
With a sigh, he sunk back in his seat and continued with his usual Saturday routine. Hoping he would get another chance.
Sunday he heard the buzzing again. Only this time he was walking up the stairs, returning from a late afternoon stroll.
Once he reached his floor he came face to face with the source of the airplane noises currently echoing throughout the building.
Spencer thought the young boy couldn't be more than five. He was wearing a jumper that was clearly too big on him. Probably one of yours, Spencer thought. Arms spread out by his side, the oversized garment covering his hands in full, the kid ran circles up and down the corridor. A wide grin on his face. The hoodie dragging on the floor collecting dustballs.
Mixed with the noises was the sound of your laughter, coming from inside your apartment. The honey-like harmony was like music to Spencer's ears. A small smile crept up on his features; what the hell was going on with him? How could he possibly feel an attraction to someone he’s never met, held a conversation with.
The boy stopped abruptly when he noticed Spencer. His arms fell, and he ran into your apartment. Vanished as if he’d seen a ghost. Although, he must have been waiting, looking out for when the coast was clear again, because as soon as Spencer closed his own door the buzzing resumed.
It continued on for hours.
Having spent time with JJ’s boys, Spencer was no stranger to the amount of energy little kids possessed. Often when playing he would be the one to grow tired first. He would be the one that needed a break while they continued to wreak havoc. Therefore the noises didn't bother him. He went about his evening, subconsciously listening out for your voice.
The next few days were quiet.
Not like he spent a lot of time at home anyway. Between his classes and his unpredictable work hours with the FBI, he only went back to his apartment to sleep. And that was usually really late at night.
Thursday evening, after a surprisingly short day, he was fumbling through his bag in search for his key when the sudden urge to go and finally say hello came over him. He knocked on your door and instantly heard shuffling inside. There was no turning back now.
Soon you were standing in front of him. Subtly, he looked you up and down. His grip on the strap of his bag tightening. Wow, you were even more beautiful than the glimpses he caught.
That came off rather stalker-ish, he took a mental note.
“Hello. Can I help you?” You asked while leaning against the frame, one hand holding the door so not let the brunette stranger see inside.
“Hi, I’m Spencer. I live across the hall.” He introduced himself, examining your face for any sort of reaction. Completely blank. “Can I help you?” You repeated. The brunette doctor was slightly taken aback by your cold shoulder. He pursed his lips into a thin smile. “No. I just wanted to introduce myself and say that if you needed anything-” “Thanks.” You cut him off and closed the door in his face.
Spencer took a step back. That definitely didn’t go as he thought it would. He rationalised your behaviour as a response to his tardiness with regards to greeting you and your son in the building. Although he still couldn’t believe you were so, for lack of a better word, bitchy.
Glancing one last time at your door, he unlocked his own and stepped inside. At least now he could say he tried introducing himself. He tried being the friendly neighbour.
Saturday arrived once again in the blink of an eye. This particular morning, the hazel-eyed doctor had an abundance of papers to grade. He made himself comfortable and got to work.
Unlike last week, when the airplane noises didn't bother him, today he found them to be quite irritating. He would reread the same sentences at least twice before he even began to understand them. Not ideal.
Frustrated, he ran his fingers through his already messy curls and let out a deep sigh. He really needed to concentrate, but he also didn't want to be a dick about it. Possibly making the already tense situation even worse.
Quickly, and rather impulsively, he gathered his things. He put on his shoes, threw his bag over his shoulder, and walked out into the hall.
This time the little boy was sitting on the floor in the middle of the corridor. In his hands he gripped two toy planes, flying them around in the air. The boy looked up at Spencer and smiled, but continued to play. Spencer smiled back while locking his door, and proceeded to make his way down the stairs.
Yes. He felt good about his decision to work somewhere else for the day.
That evening, as he was about to reheat some leftovers, there was a knock on the door. It was faint. So faint in fact he wasn't sure if he heard it at first. For a split second he hesitated, his attention now focused solely on the door. Another knock. Louder this time. He hurried over and opened it to greet the mysterious guest.
You.
Dressed in an oversized band t-shirt, one Spencer didn't recognise, and a pair of biker shorts - all covered in spatters of colourful paint. Your hair was up in a bun with loose strands escaping by your face. Spencer also noticed a yellow paint smudge on your left cheek, and white speckles on your forehead. Despite the dishevelled attire, you looked considerably more relaxed than the day he went to introduce himself.
“I guess I should start off by apologising.” You began in that melodic tone he first heard last week. “When you came by, I was really rude. I'm not usually like that, I swear. It’s just I have a lot on my plate right now. Benny’s grandparents, from his dad’s side, are giving me grief for moving so far away from them. Even though it’s only an extra twenty minute drive. But you know, they are Benny’s grandparents and I love them. They’re family. Anyway, minutes before you knocked I was on the phone with them, again about the same thing, and the conversation put me in a foul mood. Which really isn’t an excuse for the way I acted towards you so, yeah, inexcusable. I’m sorry.”
The hazel-eyed doctor couldn't help but lightly smirk. He’s never met anyone that rambled nearly as much as him. He’s learned more about you in the last ten seconds than he did the whole time you lived across from him.
“Okay. Okay, you’re smiling. That’s a good sign, right?” You brought your hands to your face, gently pressing your fingertips to the corners of your mouth as if to cover the embarrassment you were no doubtly feeling right now. “Because I did actually come here to invite you over for pizza. A truly lame attempt to try show you that I am in fact a good person and not that bitch you met.”
“I love pizza.” Spencer simply stated causing a sigh of relief to escape your lips.
“Great. That’s great.” A warm expression graced your facial features. “Oh, I’m Y/N by the way.” You were about to reach out your hand when you noticed the colourful paint covering your fingers. “Mom life.” You joked, cheeks flushing a soft pink, and let your arms fell back down to your side.
You patiently waited for Spencer to grab his keys and phone before making your way across the hall.
Your apartment was slightly larger than his, two bedrooms, and the decor also couldn’t have been more different to his own. Colourful, vibrant, homey. Those would be the words he’d use to describe what he was witnessing.
In the middle of the living space stood a dark green couch. Draped over it were numerous blankets, hiding underneath them were mismatched throw pillows. On the coffee table lay a stack of books, surrounded by children’s toys. The wall behind the television was decorated from corner to corner with various sized frames. Inside those frames were different movie posters, photos, random prints, and what he speculated was some of Benny’s artwork.
He was in awe as to how fast you managed to make this place feel like your own.
“Make yourself comfortable. I’m gonna quickly wash my hands to try get this pesky paint off, and then we can order food.” With that you disappeared leaving Spencer alone to examine the rest of your place.
His attention was caught by a not so white bedsheet, opposite end of the living space. It was covered in paint. On top of the sheet, stood an old pickle jar that was filled with water. It held numerous brushes. Next to it was a plastic box with tubes of acrylic paint with every colour a person could possibly dream of.
Spencer took a couple of steps towards the bedsheet. He didn't want to seem nosey, he just wanted to get a better look at the currently drying canvases. A distinct pitter of small feet caused him to stand up straight, frozen, as if he was caught doing something illegal.
“A-are, are you the pizza guy?” Benny asked curiously, tilting his little head to one side.
“No uhm, I’m Spencer. I live across the hall.” He explained. “Your mom invited me.” That felt like an important thing to add.
Benny sized him up. His eyes narrowed, lips pursed into a serious pout, nose scrunched. He crossed his little arms as if he was daring Spencer. It was rather silly, this five year old trying to intimidate a grown man, and yet the brunette doctor began to feel nervous. He didn't understand why. He was usually really good with kids.
“Benny, bunny, quit trying to scare our guest.” You returned, grabbing your sons attention and breaking the odd charade. Benny’s gaze traveled to you. “Go do a little clean up of your toys please. I saw those planes your pops bought you in the bathtub. That’s not their place, is it?” Benny shook his head and ran off with a loud chuckle.
You glanced at Spencer and shot him a kind smile.
“Sorry about that. He gets the whole intimidation thing after his dad.” “That’s okay.” Spencer replied. You could tell he was being nice, just like he could tell Benny’s dad was a touchy subject. Spencer wasn’t about to make it worse. It wasn’t his place. And you didn't know him well enough yet to spill the secrets of your past relationship. Therefore, the two of you stood completely still for an awkward second just looking at one another.
“Would you like anything to drink?” You asked, breaking the silence. “We have orange juice, water, or mom juice.” “Mom juice?” Spencer raised an intrigued brow. “Wine.” You explained giggling. Spencer nodded his head with a smile. “I’ll have some mom juice then.” “Good choice.”
As he sat down on the couch, you receded into the kitchen, returning shortly with two plastic cups in hand. “I forgot to ask which you’d prefer, red or white, so I brought a glass of each. Whatever you won’t have, I’ll drink.” You reached out your hands. Spencer took the cup with red wine, his fingers brushing gently against yours in the process. Spark. No, he thought. He was imagining things.
Unknown to the brunette doctor, you felt it too. The blood rushed to your face for a split second as you nervously cleared your throat before taking a sip of your wine.
“You have to forgive the plastic cups. One of Benny’s latest favourite activities is pretending to be an airplane and breaking everything in sight, so I locked all my nicer glassware away.” You explained while elegantly plopping down next to Spencer. “Plastic cups are nice. It’s like a picnic.” God, how dumb. He mentally smacked himself. Idiot.
However, your light giggle indicated you didn’t seem to mind. Your eyes widened a little, and he could have sworn they were glistening. “Well thank you Spencer. You’re the first person to say something nice rather than commenting on my parenting style.”
It was the first time you said his name out loud. And in that melodic tone of yours, it echoed inside his brain like a song. Leaving a permanent mark.
“My mom thinks I need to discipline him more, but no-one ever said it would be this hard alone.” You babbled on, completely oblivious to the silent commotion currently going on inside Spencer’s mind. “Benny’s dad was the bad cop per se, I’m no good at it. My son can cause all the trouble in the world, and still all it would take is for him to look up at me with those bunny eyes and all is good again. Probably because he has his dad’s eyes...” You stopped yourself, and chewed down on your bottom lip.
“Sorry.” You fluttered your lashes at the man sitting next to you. “I’ve been told I talk too much.”
Spencer brought the cup to the brim of his mouth and chuckled. “Don’t be. I’ve been told the exact same thing.” He took a sip of his wine.
“I find that hard to believe. You’ve barely squeezed in four full sentences these last fifteen minutes, while I just go on and on and on.”
“Give it time. I guarantee you’ll be sick of me by the end of the night, and I will never get invited over for pizza again.”
Without thinking, you reached out and placed your hand on his forearm. The air hitched in Spencer’s throat as his eyes briefly traveled down to where you were gently grasping. “Consider this your weekly invite.” You said in a silvery tone and proceeded to give his arm a gentle squeeze.
Just like that, Spencer’s Saturday routine was richer by one more item. Perhaps the most important item on the list. Pizza at the apartment across from his.
Truthfully, it was his favourite time of the week.
During those weekly visits, Spencer quickly learned a lot about you. Where you grew up, any likes and dislikes, hobbies, facts about your family. He learned that you used to teach art at a high school; a job you loved but ultimately decided to leave after you became a single parent. Now, you work at an art gallery only a few blocks from here.
Spencer evened out the scale by sharing his own stories and fables. You were quite surprised to hear about the numerous doctorates he possessed, the work he did, some of the shit he went through, and honestly just how smart he actually was.
Each time you met, you each discovered something new about one another. Something that made you seem even more interesting in the other persons eyes.
Although, an unspoken agreement was in place, the topic of Benny’s dad was off limits. For now.
When Benny got comfortable having Spencer around, the weekly pizza routine evolved into other activities involving you and your son. Movie nights. Walks to the park. Playground visits. Home-cooked dinners at yours. Puzzle afternoons at his. Spencer taught Benny and you magic tricks, while you taught Spencer how to paint.
Soon enough you were exchanging keys and before either of you even realised, six months passed.
Spencer spent Saturday morning preparing class materials for the week ahead, as usual. Through the thin walls he could hear unmistakable airplane noises and patter of feet running up and down the corridor. He smiled to himself. The echo was a pleasant reminder it was only a few hours until he would see you for pizza.
See during these last few months, Spencer fell head over heels for you. He fell hard. The ever present smile on circling your already perfect features when he was around, your honey-like laughter, your lavender scent, the way you were with Benny, the way you always watched the hazel-eyed doctor with such great interest whenever he broke out into an obscure fact.
The more time he spent with you, the more his love grew.
Spencer knew that he could never act on it. If he was a selfish man perhaps, but he wasn’t. He would never put his own needs ahead of your friendship as it wasn’t just you and him in this scenario. He had to consider Benny. What if the relationship went south and he was just another man to break both of your hearts? No. He’d never act on his feelings. There was way too much at stake.
Though he still considered himself lucky. Having a place in your life, being your friend. That’s lucky.
“Right on time as always.” You beamed as Spencer stumbled inside, closing your apartment door behind him. He ambled towards the coach and sat in his now usual spot - the left corner, with you in the right.
“Where’s Benny?” He asked, looking around for the little monster. “Benny is tucked away in his bed. He kindly requested a slice of pizza to be brought to him once it arrives so it’s really just you and me tonight. Hope that’s still okay with you.” “I mean, yeah, I guess that’s fine.” Spencer teased, shrugging his shoulders.
You rolled your eyes at him, but didn't say anything else on the matter. Odd, the brunette doctor thought. You always had a witty comeback. It was one of the many things he loved about you.
“I’m sure you could tell me how many pizza nights we had exactly, so I took the liberty of ordering our food already.” You said with a small smile.
“Thirty-two pizza nights.” Spencer stated simply. You furrowed your brows. “That doesn't right.” “Taking into account every Saturday we spent together, plus pizza on your birthday, Memorial Day, and the other few evenings we didn't feel like cooking, it adds up to thirty-two.”
“Holy shit. Maybe we should start ordering salads.” Spencer chuckled at your response. “Pizza is a lot better.” He pointed out and you couldn't argue with that logic.
Food arrived shortly after. You briskly took two slices over to Benny on a plastic plate, checking up on him in the process. While you were gone Spencer chose a movie. One that you would both equally enjoy.
You sat down again, only this time you sat beside him in what is usually Benny’s spot. Shoulder to shoulder. Spencer froze completely. Thinking if he’d move even an inch, it would scare you off and you’d shift away. You reached for a blanket and draped it over the two of you before glancing up at the hazel-eyed doctor.
“Is this okay?” Contrary to the usual melodic tone of your voice, the question came out quite croaky. Nervous. He met your gaze, losing himself completely in the colour of your eyes, and slowly nodded his head.
He’s thought about kissing you before and always managed to fight the urge. Although, in all the time the two of you spent together he was never situated this close to you. Your face was a mere few inches away from his. Oh fuck.
The moment lasted only about half a second, but to Spencer it felt like time stood still. Honestly, if you hadn’t turned away to start the movie, he probably would have lost the inner battle. He wouldn't have been able to hold himself back. He would have kissed you. Maybe he was a selfish man after all.
Swallowing the growing lump in his throat, Spencer also turned his attention to the tv. Without breaking your eyes from the screen ahead, you handed him a slice of pizza which he took gratefully. The two of you ate in silence. Enjoying the movie, but mainly each other’s presence.
The brunette man couldn't place the exact moment you cuddled yourself up to him. One minute he peeked to ask you a question about something that now seemed unimportant and you were just there, your head resting against his chest.
A smile circled his lips. He could definitely get used to this.
“I don’t know about you, but I’m completely lost.” You mumbled. “And that says a lot considering I’ve seen this movie before. I didn’t understand it then, I still don’t understand it now.”
“If you've seen this before, why did you let me choose it?” Spencer asked. You tilted to look up at him. “Because I thought you’d be able to explain it to me. You know, using that big genius brain of yours.”
Spencer chuckled. He lifted his hand and began to gently caress the top of your head. “What if I tell you my theory and it ruins the movie for you?” He asked, but you waved your hand dismissing his question. “What if you tell me and it improves the movie?”
“That’s a fair point I guess. Okay.” He continued to run his fingers through your hair as he began to explain. “The movie seems confusing because it’s actually reverse order storytelling. It kind of works its way from the end to the beginning through a series of flashbacks and flash-forwards. Therefore, as you’re watching, you get a view into Lenny’s diminishing state of mind.”
You raised a brow. “Are you sure you haven't seen ‘Memento’ before?”
He raised his hands palms up. “I swear this is my first time.” He pledged, corners of his mouth twisting into a smile. “Hmm...” “I’m just extremely observant. Plus you know I love puzzles, and this movie is like one giant puzzle.” He continued.
“Let’s pretend I believe you Spencer.” You said squinting at him, before turning back to look at the tv. The brunette man smirked under his breath. His hand once again tangling itself in your hair.
The sound of a delicate tiptoe approaching the living room caused you to sit up and reach for the remote. Although to Spencer’s surprise you didn't move away from him. Instead, you leaned your body into his side so that if you wanted, you could place your head back on his shoulder.
“Mommy.” Benny muttered. With a little hoist from you, he scrambled into your lap. “Mommy.” “What’s up bunny? Mommy was just finishing a movie, and then I would have come check on you.”
Benny shook his head. He gripped onto the collar of your t-shirt with one hand, the other travelled to your face. He pushed himself into you, angling your head so that he could whisper something in your ear.
Spencer watched as the smile on your face widened at whatever it was Benny said. The young boy pulled away, and waited for your response. “I don’t know kiddo. Would you like me to ask him?” Benny nodded, also now grinning.
“Spencer?” You turned to address the brunette man. “What is your opinion on pillow forts?” He saw the sparkle in your eyes and he couldn't help but smile. “I love pillow forts.”
Within the hour, the living space was completely transformed into a squashy soft kingdom. Benny joyfully screamed that this was the best pillow fort ever as he crawled inside, teddybear in hand.
You nudged Spencer’s arm before staring up at him. “Thank you.” Your eyes locked as your hand slid into his with ease. Fingers instantly intertwining together like magnets.
“We haven't done this since his dad passed. I’ve suggested it many many times, but he uhm, Benny never wanted to.” Pause. The expression on your face dulled. Mouth quivering as you spoke. “Ehm, his dad was a pilot hence my little guys obsession with planes. He died really suddenly nineteen months ago. Benny was so so small. And I don’t really know how much he remembers of his dad, I mean I tell him stories all the time and so do his grandparents, it’s just hard to tell sometimes if uhm... Pillow forts were like their thing, so after his dad I think they were too painful for Benny.”
Spencer gave your hand a gentle squeeze. You were both now standing toe to toe, facing each other fully.
“I guess Benny just needed to feel ready again. Happy even. So what I’m trying to say is, Spencer, thank you. Truly. Thank you for brining joy back into his life.” You hesitated, biting down on your bottom lip.
“Thank you for brining joy back into both of our lives.”
It meant a lot to Spencer that you finally felt comfortable enough to share more details about Benny’s dad. He never wanted to replace the man, he wouldn't dream of it. All he really wanted since the day he met you was to make you a little bit happier, and to hear he was succeeding warmed his heart.
You immediately noticed how his face lit up ever so slightly. A miniature smile circled your lips. “I just hope we didn't obscure your life too much these last few months.”
Using his free hand, he placed the loose strands of your hair behind your ear. Gently caressing your cheek with his thumb in the process. “Are you kidding? There is nothing I would rather be doing. I love spending time with you guys.”
Your eyes sparked with admiration.
“I love our pizza nights, overanalysing different movies with you, listening to Benny’s rendition of ‘In Summer’ from ‘Frozen’. Heck, I love that I now know what ‘Frozen’ is.” You chuckled as he carried on. “I love painting with you, and how you tell me I’ve gotten a lot better at it even though we both know that’s not true. I love that you get a long with my friends. I love that I can take you and Benny over to JJ’s for playdates. Surprisingly, I love playdates. I love how you let me read to Benny when you’re cooking. I love that he loves when I read to him. And of course I love your cooking.”
Tears formed in your eyes, blurring your vision. Tears of happiness. Tears of joy. The man standing in front of you was saying all of the right things, and he didn't even know it. Or maybe he did. You couldn't really tell. The intense emotions circling through your mind right now made it hard to think.
Spencer continued. Now that he started, he couldn't stop. He wanted you to know all of these things. He wanted you to know how he felt.
“I love when we go grocery shopping all together, and how you give out to me for my bad diet habits. I love how that always makes Benny laugh. I love how you framed a photo of the three of us and hung it up on your wall, don’t think I didn't notice. I love building lego sets with Benny. I love how the two of you call me when I’m away on a case to make sure I’m okay and tell me about your day. I love the sound of your voice. I love... I love Benny.”
He paused for a split second.
“And I especially love you.”
Tiny salty droplets trailed down your cheeks as you fluttered your lashes. “You love me?” You asked quietly. Spencer nodded his head. “I do. I’m in love with you Y/N.”
You didn't say anything.
Spencer thought he was done for when you let go of his hand. He thought he ruined it. His nose twitched. His stomach dropped. He was about to apologise, say that if you didn't feel the same way it was definitely more than okay. He just wanted you in his life. But he didn't get a chance too.
Instead, your hand was now holding his face. Your lips attached themselves to his in one breath. He instantly noted how they were softer than he could have ever possibly imagined.
You tasted like coconut chapstick. Like bliss, delight. Instinctively, Spencer’s arm wrapped itself around your waist pulling you as close as humanely possible. He could feel your heart beating in rhythm with his. As your hand tangled itself in his curly hair, he wished this moment could last forever.
When you pulled away breathless, your cheeks were flushed pink. You briefly bit down on your bottom lip before once again meeting Spencer’s inviting gaze - his arm still holding you in a tight embrace.
“Tell me again.” You whispered. Spencer’s lips circled into a warm smile. “I love you.” He declared. You slowly traced along his jawline with your fingertips. A bright bream circling your features. “I love you too Spencer.”
The second those words filled the air, he picked you up by the waist and spun you around. A carefree shriek slipped out from your mouth. He set you down and gently grabbing your face, he hauled you in for another kiss.
“You have no idea how long I have wanted to tell you all of those things.” He muttered against your lips. His stubble grazing your chin.“How long I’ve been wanting to kiss you.” You giggled.
“Maybe one day you can enlighten me, but I think now we better crawl into that fort as it is way too quiet in there. Suspiciously quiet.”
Spencer laughed. “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.” The two of you broke apart. Hand in hand, you joined Benny inside the pillow kingdom.
The boy was tangled up in a fuzzy blanket, slowly drifting asleep. He cuddled himself up to you the second your back hit the ground. You kissed the top of his head before turning to Spencer.
“Do you want to finish the movie?” You asked quietly.
“It’s okay.” He effortlessly squeezed his arm behind your neck. This allowed you to snuggle in closer and rest against him. “We can just lay here.” “What a perfect plan.”
The smile on your face caused Spencer's heart to skip a beat. He placed a kiss to your temple feeling 100% content.
It was Saturday morning. Saturday. A day Spencer used to spend grading papers and preparing class materials for the week ahead. Now, thanks to the woman sleeping peacefully beside him, his Saturdays looked much different.
Gradually, you stirred next to him. Eyes fluttering open as a yawn escaped your mouth. “Mhmm, good morning.” “Good morning beautiful.”
“How much time do you think we have?” You asked while stretching. “I would say,” Spencer glanced at the imaginary watch on his wrist. “, about five minutes.” He looked down at you and began slowly leaning in. You couldn't help but let out a soft giggle. “Let’s make ‘em count.”
A clatter of fast approaching feet caused you to halt right as your lips were about to touch. Spencer groaned knocking his head back against the wooden headboard.
“Your calculations were a little off Dr. Reid.” You teased sitting up as he ran his fingers through his ruffled hair. He looked at you once again with the kindest smile. You loved that smile.
“My apologies Mrs. Reid.” He pecked your lips just as the door flew open, your kids bursting through.

“Are you serious?”
If Rowan’s hair wasn’t already silver, it would’ve been by the end of the day from all the stress this was putting him through.
Looking into the open cake box in Fenrys’ hands, he just stared at the inscription atop what was supposed to be a birthday cake for Aelin.
“What? What’s wrong?” Fenrys tried to lean over the lid of the box but it was tall enough to block his view.
“Did you even look at it before you left the store? Before you paid for it?” It took all of Rowan’s self-control not to scream. How many more things could go wrong today?
Fenrys shifted uneasily, noticing Rowan’s slipping control. “Uh, no. I was already running late, and you said to get back here as soon as possible to help finish setting up.”
All Rowan could do was let out a long, slow breath.
“This. Says. Alien.”
The blonde man holding the cake snorted, “what?”
“The cake says ‘Happy Birthday, Alien’”
“Seriously?” Fenrys was quick to put the box down on a nearby table so he could stand next to Rowan and look at it. “Shit. They even put little green Martians on it.”
All Rowan wanted to do was throw a surprise party for his girlfriend.
Was that really too much to ask? Apparently, so.
A couple of months ago Aelin had mentioned how she’d always wanted a surprise party, but of course, you cant ask for a surprise party because then it’s no longer a surprise.
Rowan took the hint and decided to plan something special for her birthday. He even got all their friends to help, and if everything had gone to plan then it would have been a perfect day.
Too bad he couldn’t catch a break.
Rowan had made a list of everything they needed to do, buy, and plan. It was an extensive list because he knew that a party for Aelin had to be perfect. Not because she had impossibly high standards—well, she did, but that wasn’t why it had to be perfect—it was because he loved her and wanted to show her how much he appreciated her on her birthday.
And he thought it would be the icing on the cake—pun intended—to have all their friends involved too. That’s why he was making calls to all of them about what they each needed to do for the party.
First, he got Lorcan and Elide to pick up the golden balloon arch that was going to be at the entrance of the park he’d reserved for the day. By the time he got on the phone with Lorcan, Rowan was already exasperated from having to deal with the city planning office in order to reserve the particular park and gazebo.
“Lorcan, I need you in charge of the—” Rowan broke off, hearing a loud crackling from the other end of the phone.
“You’re cutting off, wha— you say?” Lorcan’s voice was halting as the call cut in-and-out
“I was saying, I need you to cover the balloons.”
“Ba—”
“The balloon canopy.”
“The bo—, ca—”
“Yeah, we need a golden balloon canopy.”
“Okay, fine. I— got the— boun— ca—”
“Shit. Can you hear me?” Rowan pulled his phone away to check his service. It was fine from his end, it must be Lorcan’s phone being spotty.
When Rowan put the phone back to his ear, he could hear rustling and the sound of a car door opening and closing, and then the connection cleared.
“Yeah, man. I heard you. But, are you sure Aelin wants that?” Lorcan sounded skeptical.
“What? Yeah, of course, it’ll be great.” Rowan was already getting impatient, knowing he had a few more errands to run before he could relax.
“Whatever. She’s your girlfriend, and it’s your credit card.”
Rolling his eyes, Rowan muttered, “Thank you for your generous help, Lorcan.” then heard someone scolding Lorcan and grinned before saying loud enough for the other person to hear, “Thank you, Elide!”
Rowan hung up and mentally checked off the balloons. What was next?
***
“Aedion, please, I need you to keep Aelin busy for the day.”
Aedion and Lysandra had come over to Rowan and Aelin’s apartment for dinner, and Rowan had dragged Aedion into the kitchen to talk about that weekend’s plan.
Taking a sip of his beer, Aedion raised an eyebrow at him, “Won’t she wonder why her boyfriend is avoiding her on her birthday?”
Rowan rolled his eyes. “I won’t be avoiding her. You will very adamantly request to take your cousin to lunch for her birthday, and who am I to get in the way of family?”
Aedion snorted but nodded. “Yeah, okay. Lys and I can take her out.”
“No, Lys can’t be there.”
“What?” Aedion looked at him bewildered. “Why not?”
Rowan sighed. “Because if Lysandra is there with you, then Aelin will wonder why I’m not there with her. If it’s just you and Aelin, then she won’t think it’s weird that I’m gone. Besides,” Rowan took another sip of beer, “I’ll need Lys’ help during the day to set up that slideshow.”
“Right.”
The slideshow Rowan had asked Aedion and Lysandra to make using pictures of Aelin that would play during the party. The one that Aedion wasn’t going to tell Rowan hadn’t been started yet. “Yeah, okay. I’ll invite Aelin to come get lunch with me.”
“Perfect.”
One more thing off Rowan’s list.
***
The morning of the party Rowan asked Fenrys to go pick up Aelin’s cake. It was supposed to be a chocolate and hazelnut cake with the top decorated with kingsflame blossoms and say, “Happy Birthday Aelin.”
Rowan was distracted with setting up decorations and directing their friends to put away the things they brought. Dorian and Manon were in charge of getting the alcohol. Chaol and Yrene were bringing deserts because when it came to Aelin there could never be enough sweets. Fenrys helped Rowan bring out the rest of the food, before being sent off to pick up the cake.
Rowan did a quick scan, mentally checking off everyone. Besides the people he could see, he knew Lysandra was in the gazebo finishing up the slideshow, Aedion was out distracting Aelin, and Elide and Lorcan would be here any minute with the balloons.
Letting out a breath, Rowan smiled. Things seemed to be coming together.
Busy showing Dorian where the coolers for the drinks were, he was too distracted to do more than wave a ‘hello’ to Lorcan and Elide as Lorcan’s truck pulled up to the park. Rowan decided they were smart enough to figure out how to set up a balloon arch—or at least Elide could read the directions to a grumbling Lorcan, so Rowan spent the next half hour with other parts of the setup.
After he finished hanging up the screen they were going to use for the picture slideshow, Rowan went to check on the balloons.
He made it two steps out of the large gazebo and stopped in his tracks.
“What the fuck is this?” Rowan exclaimed, gaping at the large monstrosity in front of him.
Instead of looking at a beautiful, arched balloon canopy, he was looking at a massive, inflatable, child’s bouncy castle.
“What do you mean ‘what the fuck is this?’” Lorcan asked, wiping a bit of sweat from his forehead and stepping around the side of the castle. “This is what you asked for.”
“This is not what I asked for.” Rowan could feel his mouth still hanging open and quickly shut it.
Elide looked at Rowan in confusion. “Rowan, you did ask for this. I mean, I definitely thought it was weird that Aelin would want a blow-up bounce house for her birthday, but when Lor asked if you were sure, you insisted it was right.”
Rowan tried to remember that particular conversation. He had so many details in his head and too many people in charge of different things.
“Shit.” The phone call was coming back to Rowan to now. “We kept getting cut off. Shit,” He ran an exasperated hand through his hair making it all stand up on end. He swung around towards Lorcan who looked at him with raised brows. “What did you think I was asking you to get?”
Lorcan slowly looked between the bouncy house and Rowan. “You asked me to get a Bounce Castle.”
For fucks sake.
“I asked you to get a Balloon Canopy.”
Elide’s mouth opened in an ‘O’ and Lorcan said nothing until a moment later he was laughing, bent over at the waist.
“You wanted balloons, and now Galathynius has a bounce castle.” He managed between breaths, ignoring Rowan’s fuming look. It took Elide elbowing him in the side to get him to stop laughing.
“I don’t have time for this. Fix this.” Rowan waved his arms around at the massive blow-up castle, and then he turned around to find something he could actually focus on, trying his best to ignore the increasingly greying clouds in the sky.
“You still paying?” Lorcan called after him.
He let out a string of curses. “Yes.”
Rowan just barely heard the sound of air being let out of the castle as he walked away.
***
A shriek drew Rowan’s attention away from the chairs he was unfolding. He turned towards the gazebo to see Lysandra throw a small ice bucket, mostly filled with water at this point, at the screen Rowan had set up earlier.
The screen that was on fire.
Running in to help, Rowan saw that the candles placed around it had been lit—why the hell would someone already light them? The wind must’ve blown the screen too close causing it to catch fire.
He reached Lysandra just as she threw another bucket of icy water on the screen, dousing the rest of the flames.
“Are you okay?” He looked over Lysandra, but she just seemed shocked and irritated.
“I’m fine.” She gave him a reassuring nod before scowling at the destroyed screen. “This, though, is pretty much dead.” she sighed and closed her laptop she was using to work on the slideshow. “It doesn’t look like we’ll be showing pictures today, Rowan.”
He rubbed at his face. Fine. Okay. He could deal with this. They had a children’s bounce house and no slideshow. That was fine. As long as nothing else went wrong, he could deal with it.
As if in response to his thought, the day began to dim as clouds moved to cover the sun. If Rowan didn’t look at the heavy clouds, they would disappear.
That was when Fenrys came back with the cake.
***
“Alien?! I can’t give my girlfriend a birthday cake that’s calling her an Alien!”
Fenrys almost wanted to laugh at how ridiculous Rowan looked with his hair sticking up and face all red, but he knew this was just the latest in a list of ‘things gone wrong’ and was worried that if he laughed then he wouldn’t live to see the birthday girl.
“Maybe she’ll find it funny,” Fenrys suggested.
Rowan slowly turned toward him with an almost crazed look in his eye. “Funny? You think Aelin will find all this,” he waved his hands at the deflating bounce house, charred hanging screen, and the horribly incorrect cake, “Funny?”
“...Maybe?” Honestly, Fenrys thought Aelin would find it all hilarious but decided to keep his mouth shut. He knew how much work and energy Rowan put into this party, and he worried for his friend’s mental state as he counted all the things that had already gone wrong.
Rowan just dropped his head in his hands and groaned.
***
As soon as Rowan unpacked the last of the food, he heard a boom of thunder.
“This is not happening.” He muttered to himself, refusing to look at what was surely the worst thing that could happen that day.
A moment later he heard the unmistakable sound of hard, fast rain. The yelps from his friends broke him out of his haze and he turned to see everyone rush into the covered gazebo, careful to keep close to the center where they could stay dry.
Everyone besides Yrene, who had been helping Rowan with the food, were varying levels of soaked. And all the decorations they’d been holding were either stuck outside taking the worst of the rain or dragged inside to drip water onto the floor.
Rowan didn’t say anything, he just grabbed the beer bottle out of Aedion’s hand and took a long swig.
***
Looking around, Rowan surveyed the damage. Where a nice balloon canopy should’ve been positioned, a large, deflated, child’s bounce castle stood in its place; the screen he was going to use to show a slideshow of Aelin was burnt to a crisp; the rain pouring down was soaking the park and wrecking everything brought in from the cars, and the perfect cake for his girlfriend was ruined by calling her Alien.
But at least all their friends showed up.
That was the one good thing to come out of this disaster of a party. Even if they were all dripping wet and shivering from their walks from their cars to the covered gazebo in the middle of the park.
Dorian walked up to where Rowan and Aedion were talking about the cousin’s lunch. He took a sip of his drink and asked them, “So, what time is Aelin is getting here?”
Rowan and Aedion both turned towards each other.
“What time did you—”
“When did you say—”
They both froze.
Rowan slowly blinked. “Aedion, you did tell Aelin what time to come tonight, right?”
Aedion shook his head, wincing, “No, man. I was taking her out to lunch. You were supposed to find a reason to get her to the park.”
A dull roaring started in Rowan’s head. He thought over everything he had on his list.
Rent out gazebo: Check.
Delegate decorations: unsuccessful, but Check.
Order cake: again, unsuccessful, but Check.
Get friends to show up: Check.
Buy Aelin’s present: Check
Invite Aelin…
“Fuck. Shit. Fuck me. No, no, no, no, no… Gods damn it!”
Before anyone could another word, Rowan pulled his keys from his pocket and sprinted into the rain towards his car.
***
Aelin loved her birthday.
Usually.
She loved celebrating with her friends and laughing about the stupid gag gift they bought her. She loved making a wish on her candles and she even loved the awkward minute of listening to people sing happy birthday.
Last year, Rowan had woken her up to a particularly amazing round of birthday sex. Which turned into another round in the kitchen and then another one in the shower. He had also spent the day last year doing her favorite things and ending the night with a wonderful dinner at her favorite restaurant.
Which was why she had been so excited to see what this birthday would bring.
Her morning began exactly how she hoped: with Rowan’s tongue between her legs. He’d woken her up slowly, lazily, until she was squirming on the sheets with her hand fisted in his hair.
She’d hoped their morning tumble was the start of a very satisfying day, but soon afterward Rowan left saying he had to make a work call and she should get ready for her lunch with Aedion.
As much as she loved her cousin, all Aelin really wanted to do was stay inside with Rowan all day, clothing-optional. Actually, clothing-nonexistent.
But she did want to see Aedion, and apparently, Rowan’s work call was pressing enough that he practically ran out the door.
Lunch was nice. She hadn’t had one-on-one time with Aedion in a while, but she couldn’t help but notice how antsy he seemed.
“What aren’t you telling me?” She asked him after the waiter took their set down their drinks.
Her cousin choked on the sip he’d taken, and she raised an eyebrow at him.
“What?” He sputtered. “I’m not not telling you anything.”
“Uh huh.”
He rolled his eyes. “There’s nothing Ae, don’t sweat it.”
“It looks like you’re the one sweating Aedion.” Leaning back in her chair she smirked and crossed her arms. “Did you get me something you’re worried I won’t like?” she joked.
“Hm? Oh, yeah, exactly! Lysandra picked it out but I don’t know if you’ll like it.”
Aelin rolled her eyes at her cousin. “Please, if Lys picked out whatever it is, then I’m sure I’ll love it.” Her smirk turned into a genuine smile. “But, it’s from you so I know I’ll like it.”
He laughed but she thought he still looked a bit anxious. Deciding not to worry about whatever else had him fidgety, she let it go.
When she got back to her and Rowan’s apartment, she expected he would be there. He wasn’t.
Aelin didn’t think a work call would take the two hours she’d been out with Aedion, so she hoped Rowan would be back soon. She hadn’t talked about plans today because last year he had been so eager to take the lead.
So she waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Three hours later she was irate, hurt, and confused. How could he just up and disappear on her birthday? If he was busy—if something came up that he needed to deal with—he should’ve just told her. She still would be upset, but she’d have understood.
But he hadn’t said anything. He hadn’t called or texted. Rowan hadn’t given her any explanation as to why she was alone now on her birthday.
Aelin walked into the kitchen and was about to pour herself a glass of wine when she heard loud noises from the hall outside her apartment door. It sounded like heavy, stampeding footsteps.
And then Rowan was bursting into their apartment.
He was breathing heavily, soaking wet, and looking at her with such an apologetic expression that she momentarily forgot why she was angry.
“Aelin,” he panted, trying to get a breath, “I am so sorry.”
Right. That was why she was angry.
She crossed her arms over her chest and took in his disheveled appearance, trying desperately to understand why he was so out of sorts.
“What happened to you?”
Rowan loosed a long, heavy breath and stepped closer to her. “Aelin, gods, I’m an idiot.”
“Yes, you are.” She agreed. “But, explain to me why.”
Rowan took another step towards her and she let him.
“I had a whole thing planned— I still do, kind of, but it’s basically ruined at this point—” Rowan started talking faster and Aelin struggled to keep up. “I planned an amazing surprise party for you, I spent weeks getting things organized. I had all our friends come out to help, they’re all still out at the park—I rented out the park—they’d better all still be there, anyway.”
He took a breath and Aelin’s anger slowly started to fade, but then she remembered sitting alone in her apartment for three hours and stared at him until he continued his explanation.
“There were supposed to be balloons, golden ones! And photos of you, and a cake, but all of it got ruined.” Rowan ran an angry hand through his hair. “Lorcan thought I asked him for a bounce castle— a bounce castle! Then the screen caught on fire, and then there was a mess up with the cake that you don’t even want to know about.”
He finally looked back at her, pleadingly, hoping she could understand how sorry he was. “But the worst part, which was one-hundred-percent my fault, was that I forgot to invite you to your own party.”
Aelin was wide-eyed by the end of his speech. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
Rowan grabbed her hand and looked down at her with sorry eyes. “Please, forgive me.”
“Forgive you?”
His face crumpled and he leaned to press it into her shoulder. She heard him grumble, “Fuck. I ruined your birthday, I’m so sorry.”
Aelin pulled away to hold his face between her hands. She waited until his eyes opened to say, “Rowan, you planned that whole thing? For me?”
His brow furrowed as if he couldn’t understand why she would ask that. “Of course, I did. I know how much you wanted a surprise party, but—”
“But nothing.” She cut him off pressing her mouth firmly against his. Rowan was too surprised at her reaction to reciprocate, but she pulled back just as fast.
“Okay, yes, not inviting me to my own party was a bad move,” He winced. “But, everything else you did was amazing.” When he still looked skeptically at her she continued, “the rest of that stuff; the weather, the cake, the fire, Lorcan’s bad judgment—none of that was your fault.”
Rowan finally cracked a smile at the last bit.
“So,” he searched her face for any clues, “you’re not upset?”
Aelin laughed at pulled Rowan down for another kiss. This time, he eagerly returned it and wrapped one arm around her waist and the other moved so his hand could hold the back of her head. They stood wrapped up in each other for a minute, deepening the kiss before they both pulled back for air.
“I’m not mad. I was, before when I thought you’d ditched me on my birthday. But I’m not anymore now that I know you spent the day trying to make me happy."
Aelin pulled back further to give him a stern look. “But I will be angry if you don’t bring me to this party right now.”
He pulled her back into him and let out a relieved laugh.
“Let’s get the birthday girl to her party.”
***
The drive from their apartment to the park was filled with Rowan telling Aelin about everything that had gone wrong. His fingers intertwined with her over the middle console and she listened as he told her about the crazy day.
“Why someone would light the candles so early in the day is beyond me.” He grumbled and Aelin chuckled at the bitterness in his tone.
“I’m sure the slideshow would’ve been great.” She perked up. “Oh my gods, that was why Aedion was so weird at lunch.”
Rowan glanced side longed at her. “He was weird?”
“Yeah, real fidgety, wouldn’t always look me in the eye. He said it was because he was worried I wouldn’t like my present, but I knew that was a load of bullshit.” She laughed, remembering how relived his face had been when she offered that excuse.
Rowan rolled his eyes but watched as the sky began to clear.
“Good, the rains finally stopping. I told the others to finish putting up decorations if the weather cleared.”
“There’s more?” Aelin questioned, thinking of everything he’d already told her about.
“A bit. I gave Fen a list of stuff to buy, but knowing him, he picked up some things that I didn’t tell him to. So, who knows what we’ll see when we get there.” He groaned thinking about it, but Aelin just laughed.
“It’s a couple of decorations, Ro. I’m sure they’ve got it handled.”
When they finally pulled into the parking lot nearest the gazebo, Aelin and Rowan didn’t get out of the cart immediately. They watched the scene in front of them in bewilderment
Lorcan was throwing a rope over a tree branch—Aelin assumed it was because he was the tallest—tying one end to the trunk and the other end was attached to a large pinata.
“Is that…?” She was so confused about what was happening.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Fen?” Rowan seethed.
“Fen did that? Why would Fenrys buy an Alien pinata?” Aelin suddenly had more questions than answers.
Rowan rubbed his hands down his face, muffling his curses.
“Don’t ask.”
Aelin watched as Aedion picked up the stick and took a couple of practice swings.
“What? They’re gonna start without us?” Aelin pulled Rowan’s hand off his face and made him look at her. “Hey. I know this didn’t go like you’d planned, but it's still pretty great, and everyone is here and having a good time. And there’s cake, right?”
“There’s cake.”
Rowan refrained from reminding her that all the guests had trekked in and out of the rain that afternoon setting up and half the supplies were ruined or nonexistent. Apparently, she could see all that in his face though so Aelin leaned over and kissed him.
“Let’s go, come on.”
At some point during their conversation, Lysandra had found the blindfold and tied it around Aedion’s head. The rest of the group, minus Manon and Dorian who had snuck off somewhere she didn’t want to think about too much, stood around as Fenrys cheered and Aedion swung.
He missed the first time, but as he prepped himself to swing again, Aelin and Rowan climbed out of the car and walked toward the group.
“Aelin!” Fenrys called, eyes going wide as he called her name.
Everyone else whipped around to face her and Rowan and yell “Surprise!”
Unfortunately, Aedion still had a stick in his hands; and he quickly turned, it nailed Fenrys in the head.
Rowan stood there gaping as Fenrys let out a loud sound between a yelp and a groan, before falling to the ground, knocked out.
“Shit! Who’d I hit?” Aedion asked as he ripped off the blindfold, and tuned to see what—or, who—exactly he had swung at.
Mostly in shock, a little bit in amusement, everyone watched as Fenrys slowly groaned, lifted his head only to wince and bring his hand up to hold it, and opened his eyes.
“…Surprise”
***
“You know, this may be my most memorable birthday.” Aelin was perched on Rowan’s lap, eating a piece of the outer space-themed cake.
Her boyfriend groaned and pressed his face into her shoulder.
“I’ll take it. Memorable is better than disastrous.”
She threw her head back and laughed.
After Fenrys woke up, Yrene came over to check on him and make sure he was going to be alright. She didn’t think he had a concussion, but she put Aedion in charge of watching him. His punishment, apparently. They were currently at another table with Lysandra, Lorcan, and Elide.
Aelin looked over to the other end of the gazebo and watched as Chaol and Yrene sat with Dorian and Manon, the latter was trying her best to pretend she was interested in the conversation. By the heated looks she and Dorian were giving each other, Aelin didn’t think those two would be sticking around too long.
Turning back to Rowan, Aelin smiled.
“Thank you, Buzzard. I love it.” She grinned as he rolled his eyes, but he tightened his grip on her and pulled her face down to his.
“Happy Birthday, Fireheart.”

✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
“Dear diary, I saw my crush today. I saw him in the living room after my brother invited him over with another friend. It's not as if I'm scared of him. I've spoken with him numerous times. I mean, I'm almost fluent in his language, lol. Seeing him and hearing his boisterous laugh was still entertaining. I'm wondering if he'll be at the kickback this weekend; if so, maybe I'll have the bravery to approach him. Okay, goodbye journal, love y/n.”
Your life consisted of short, insignificant interactions with him; however, when you had a crush, life was exciting and unpredictable. Since you're so near to him on a daily basis, your crush increased exponentially as you couldn't control your intrusive thoughts.
Yes, you did think of him, probably 25/8. It's not like you didn't know him, but you only knew the head version of him. And we all know they could be two different people. So the only thing left to do is keep it secret.
It's impossible for your secret to come out when you're the only one who knows about it. Right? Unfortunately, this isn't a movie, and your secret was revealed, and the perpetrator was none other than your arch-nemesis, Boo Seungkwan.
Okay, not quite that far, but you and him frequently collided because you and him could never agree on anything. He's just Boo, and he has his own behavior category.
He was the second-to-last person you wanted to find out about, after your crush, of course. From this point on, your life was not going as planned.
Your secret would never be revealed to Lee Seokmin, and you would do anything to protect it.
“What are you doing?” You leapt to your feet as you hurriedly closed your diary, terrified of prying eyes.
You rolled your eyes and stuffed your journal into a drawer with random papers, saying, "Shit, why don't you ever knock."
“Well, this is my shared dorm, and you're basically free living here,” he chuckled. You gave him a sidelong glance.
He was right.
“Is that a way you treat your twin? Is it now.”
He strolled away, completely oblivious to your yelling, and into the kitchen.
“Shut up, and get your ass out here we have to go shopping for the kickback. If you’re not out in 10 I’m leaving your ass.”
Great sibling love, what more could you ask for.  As much as you know that this is the way he expresses his love, you still got up and started getting ready for the day despite his warning.
Amidst your constant disagreements with him, you still loved him. The only problem was that you had to keep your love interest hidden from him. You could see it now and the big brother trying to protect and all that annoying shit.
You were old enough to take care of yourself and you didn’t want unruly men to ruin something that you wanted for so long.
“Coming, if you leave me, I'll tell Mom.” And I think we can all agree that I am the favorite twin.” As he slammed the fridge door shut, you could hear his huge scoffs.
You hurriedly grabbed your purse and beanie as you dashed for the door, laughing at his tantrums. He had a habit of leaving you behind.
We will not speak of March 5, 2017.
“Hey, wait up,” you said as you ran to his car and jumped in before him, grabbing the aux before him.
He started the car and sped out of the dorm parking lot on his way to the store, saying, "You're such a pain in the ass."
“Oh, don't act as if you don't love me.”
“Whoever said I did must have lied to you. Mingyu laughed as he accelerated through Seoul's crowded streets.
The jokes, the laughter, and the love were all part of the experience of living with one of the biggest Kpop groups.
You wouldn’t have it any other way!
While listening to your playlist, the song "Come to You" perfectly complemented the mood.
You smiled as you passed many streets and watched the busy lives of many different people. You could say you had an imaginative mind.
We arrived at the store a long way down the road, grabbed one of the carts, and proceeded to a separate aisle of the store.
Buying stuff was always expensive with a party of 13 and more friends on the way. Almost everything had to be doubled, and the meat had to be tripled. When throwing a party, everyone is required to provide a dish.
You didn't seem to mind; after all, you weren't paying, so you just chilled on the cart while you watched Mingyu placed the goods in neatly.
You told Mingyu to grab a specific chip as you walked to the chip aisle, and he furrowed his brow.
“What are those? I've never seen them before.
"Dokyeom likes them," you blurted out without a second thought. As you mentally processed what you had said, you stared at him with wide eyes.
Shit.
“When they're not there, Dokyeom and Soonyoung get upset.” You shook your head and scooted by him, tossing two bags into the overflowing shopping cart.
“Oh-okay I guess you can get them.”
As you pushed the cart toward the cashier, you mentally slapped yourself in the face. You were certain that you would not crack.
The ride home was silent as the only noise was the continuous taps from Mingyu's fingers on the wheel.
Mingyu called wonwoo on his phone as he drove up to the dorm and asked him to help with the groceries.
As you heard Mingyu pout over the phone, he refused, and not even minutes after, wonwoo is strolling down the driveway on his way to the car.
“You shouldn't even have picked up I know I wouldn't"  Wonwoo pushed your shoulder and chuckled at your humor. “I know”
“Heyyy I'm right here,” Mingyu began to sulk as he observed his sister speaking without him.
You and wonwoo both chuckled as you gathered your belongings and began walking away from Mingyu.
---
The days went by slowly as you reached the door. It was time to leave the house. You grabbed a jacket and purse. Today, the boys went to Hybe for a quick practice session before heading out for the weekend.
Because you are such a good friend and thoughtful person, you decided to buy them a few drinks as a gift. It wasn't anything special, you didn't want to see anyone, noo.
It took some time to order everything, especially with the large number of 13 items. Since you've known each other for most of your lives, the drinks on the list haven't changed. Ice Americanos and Frappes were the most popular drinks.
As soon as you arrived at the Hybe building, you swiftly grabbed the bag containing the drinks and proceeded to their floor. You finally made it to their practice room after thanking the employees for their assistance.
Slowly pushing the door open, you drew the attention of almost everyone as they turned to face you. As a number of them raced over to you and took the beverages from you, smiles crept across their faces.
As they sipped their drinks, the room was filled with thank yous and hellos.
The voice of an angel said, "Thanks again, y/n." He gave you a short smile before returning to his practice. Oblivious to people around you, words spilled out.
“Fuck, he's so attractive.”
“Whose good looking?” As you slowly turned around, you heard a voice speaking to you from behind you.
Fuck
It's Boo Seungkwan. He smiled at you as he grabbed a drink from your hand. He cocked his head as he sipped it, and his eyes widened.
“Don’t tell me you said dokyeom is good looking, no fucking way.”
As you coughed to relieve the high tension in the air, you started to mentally sweat.
“That's insane, I said the room was in good condition," you said as you slapped his shoulder and shook your head.
Come on, y/n, that didn't even make sense.
“You know you're not going to fool me, y/n?” Afraid that someone would find out, you dragged him into a back room and locked the door behind him
“Shit..shit..shit. If you tell anyone, I swear I'll -
Laughing, before raising his eyebrows after taking a sip of his americano, he cut you off.
"You're right, this is important information. But you already know that I'll keep my mouth shut about the situation. I don’t even know what we’re talking about right now.”
Seungkwan heard dokyeom announce that practice had resumed as the door opened. Before he left, he smiled at you and waved goodbye.
“Y/n and dokyeom in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G. As you were about to leap across the couch to silence him, he jumped up and ran out of the door laughing.
All of a sudden, your mind was filled with confusion and paranoia.
It became increasingly difficult to watch them practice as the session progressed. Your thoughts were not positive, and your attitude was slowly deteriorating.
Imagining the worst-case scenario. You paced in the back room when you heard a knock at the door. As you mentally prepared yourself, it caught you off guard. While walking side by side, Hansol and Seungkwan were whispering.
“Did they know?” You didn’t want anyone to find out so you ran, and didn’t stop running. To avoid society, you hurried out the door after saying a quick goodbye to the boys.
The goodbyes were not even heard as you hurried out of the Hybe parking lot without looking back. In a small group, information spreads quickly. And he was bound to find out.
Flushed and worried, you staggered into the dorm room. You knew your secret was going to get out eventually. In the case where Hansol and Seungkwan knew, Joshua is likely to know.
And since Joshua is close to the older boys, Seungcheol and Jeonghan know. The news would then spread to Hoshi, and then the entire performance team would be in the know.
The only remaining candidates are Mingyu and dk. If Mingyu finds out, it's game over for you at that point.
There was no point of living any more. Having completed a full loop of the house, you had come to your room for the final time. You slowly melted to the ground and fell out.
Dokyeon is more likely to know if Mingyu knows.
"What went wrong?" Unable to control yourself as you rolled around the floor, you erupted into a tantrum.
You sat up and shook your head, "I'll just have to leave the country," you said. "Man, you're so smart. Your plan y/n is fantastic."
You ran to your room, grabbed your suitcase from your closet, and began tossing things into.
No need to pack everything since you were only going to be gone for a year. As soon as your adrenaline slowed down, you began packing.
(A few hours later)
You were relieved when your clothes fit into your luggage when you had finally done packing. You were on your way now, and as long as it wasn't here, everything was good.
“Ah, I figured it out; now let's book it.”
When you approached the door, you unlocked it, and we were greeted with a pleasant surprise.
You walked up to the door and opened it, where you were greeted by Mingyu and his gang. Outside the door, you could see him, hao, dk, and wonwoo. They stared at you as they looked you up and down, perplexed as to why you appeared to be departing.
“Um, what is going on and where are you going?” Mingyu reacted with a rejoinder of his own.
Your throat felt as though it was clogging up, and you began sweating furiously under your armpits. Thank god for hoodies.
“Well, I was simply going to visit a friend's house,” you explained.
You knew he wouldn't believe you; he knew most of your friends, and they didn't live that far away for you to be carrying that much.
“First, that's a lie, and second, I need to speak with you, so your "buddy" will have to wait.” You sighed and closed your eyes.
Your escape had to wait.
Mingyu took your suitcase and slid it near the door, while the other members shuffled awkwardly into the room. While the other lads sat in the living room, Wonwoo went to his room.
“Maybe I could escape now?”
“What did you say y/n?” minghao said as he glanced at you.
You waved your hand in front of them and did a walk of shame to your room as you physically and mentally prepared yourself for whatever Mingyu had to say.
So much for your crush now.
Mingyu sat on the edge of your bed, arms crossed, staring at you.
“Sit down, he patted the bed on your side before lightly coughing.
"Some rumors have been going around, so I wanted to clear the air."
Seeing what he was about to say made your heart race, and you couldn't take it any longer. Does anyone else hear their loud banging, could Mingyu hear it?
You leapt to your feet and shouted at him before apologizing on your knees.
What a sight to see, a grown ass woman on her knees apologizing to her twin brother.
“I apologize; I should have told you first, but I was afraid you'd tell him. That's why I kept it a secret and plus dating a member of seventeen. That's dangerous enough-“.
Mingyu's "WHAT" cut you off.
You came to a halt as he got up, slowly staring up at him.
“Wait, weren't we discussing my crush on Dokyeom or something else?” Worries began to creep in as sweat began to accumulate on your brow.
“What the fuck, you have a crush on do-?” you exclaimed as you jumped to your feet and tackled Mingyu to the ground.
“Don't say it so loudly; he'll hear you.” As Mingyu began to pace around the room, as he pushed you off of him.
You could see his anger as he panicked, and his small rage tantrum was truly uncomfortable because he couldn't communicate his ideas to you because he was afraid of his companions' sensitive ears.
He pointed to the door and said, "Wait, so you do have a crush on him." You sighed, shaking your head.
As he walked away from you, he had another outburst.
Everything is now turning to shit, this was your only chance.
“I have to escape” you said as you dashed out the door and to your suitcase. Mingyu was standing behind you, staring at you in terror.
It wasn't in the plan for you to fall on him, but it was still nice. Focus y/n.
“I’m sorry, dokyeom; it was my fault. I didn't realize you were there. “Are you okay?” As you extended your hand to him, you pushed yourself off of him.
“Yeah, I'm OK, are you okay?” he asked. You've had quite a tumble.”
“Yeah I’m good, I live with a clumsily brother so I’m fine”
“Hey!"
You swiftly let go of each other and placed your hands behind your back as you became embarrassed.
“Hey, Seungcheol texted the group chat and said he wants to go out to eat. He said whoever can come.”
The boys instantly got ready as they wanted to eat, food is a great scapegoat. As you saw them exit the dorm, you took a step back and found your way back to your room.
“Is leaving still an option?” you murmured into your pillows, plopping your exhausted body on your bed and overthinking life.
---
You rolled over and looked at the clock, which reads 9:30 a.m.
You turned over in your bed, unable to yell, and trudged to the bathroom to make yourself presentable.
“What have you gotten yourself into, y/n?” You stripped off your clothing and stepped into the hot water after turning on the shower.
You didn't spend much time in the shower, but today you were engrossed in how your plan had devolved into this ordeal.
Resting your head on the tile as the hot water traced down your back, you contemplated on what the HELL you were going to do.
*BANG BANG*
“Y/n hurry up, we have to prepare.”
Hearing Mingyu's voice drew you back to reality as you turned off the water and got out of the shower, unlocking the door and letting him in.
“Hey, no snarky remark?” he said as he watched you walk to your room with your head down. You ignored him as you closed the door and prepared for the party.
It didn't take long for your calm disposition to be noticed, since you were the outspoken one. Even if you tried to fake it, it didn't work out.
You grinned as you walked through the background of Seungcheol and Jeonghan shared housing, looking at the celebration.
There were groups of people near the pool, at the grill, and even by the chairs, as you could see.
“Hey, bring the food inside; I'll take the meat to cheol,” mingyu said, shaking your head as you picked up the bags and headed to the kitchen, where you recognized some familiar faces.
“Y/nnnnnnnnn, heyyyyy, I’ve missed you.” When you saw her, you put the bags on the counter and hugged her, smiling into her embrace.
“It's great to see you again, yeji; how are you and the rest of the group doing?” Are the others here?” As she led you back outside, she interlaced your hands in hers.
You saw dokyeom and a few other people descend the steps before you left, as he waved and gave you a quick glance.
As you reach for a drink from the cooler, your heart begins to race. Something had to be turned off if you wanted to make it through the night, and this was the only way.
You took a sip and coughed loudly as you followed Yeji to the poolside.
It was going to be a long night for you.
---
As you and a group of individuals began to dance uncontrollably, the effects of the alcohol in your system began to show as you staggered to the grill.
“HeEeeyyYY, Wheeeere d'ya think yeeeeer goin’?” you slurred, jabbing a finger into seungcheol’s back
The other members laughed as they glanced at you, plainly detecting your intoxication.
“I forgot how drunk you can get, so why don't you take a break,” your overprotective brother says, making you scream within.
He always did this.
Gerroff me!” you said. “I’m ash sober ash ’m gonna git. And nuffink I - wait wait wait - nuffink you can do ‘boutit.” As you ambled back to the kitchen without so much as a hiccup in their direction, they laugh.
As you struggled to reach the door, you fell forward and were grabbed by a hand. As he lifted you from your imminent doom, his hold felt warm. With your eyes enlarged, you focused on the individual and stared at his face.
As you grabbed on to him, your words tumbled out of your mouth, “Ohmygoshimsosorry.” He drew you closer to him by taking your hands in his.
Saying your heart was racing was an understatement, it was literally pounding out of your chest. You were hand in hand with your crush, who you believed was exceptionally attractive and talented, and you wished he knew more about your sentiments or could somehow fill them.
But you know no huge idol like him would go for you. Feeling that made you sober up real fast as you felt your arm being pulled upstairs, you had no idea where you were going but it looked like someone's room.
Dokyeom eased open the door as he sat you on the bed and went to get some water from a little fridge. He handed it to you and sat next to you.
“Thanks”
“No problem, also I've been trying to talk to you all night but you appear to be occupied.”
As you took a sip of water, your heart began to beat faster; “waitttt, we donthavetotalk. Let’s dance! As he chuckled at your erratic movements, you began to wander around the room, pulling your hands into yours.
The alcohol was definitely making its way out of your system.
As he spun you around, his body in tune with the music, the bass of the song could still be heard. Even though this felt like a dream you didn’t quite care at the moment. Was it because you'd finally met the boy from your dreams, or was it because he wanted to meet you in person?
Your connection with him got stronger by the second, as did your heartbeat, which began to rise steadily with it. You couldn't keep stalling any longer; you needed to listen to what he was saying.
“I think I'm sober up for now,” you said as you let go of his hand.
Dokyeom chuckled before tossing his head back, “I didn't realize you could move like that” he said as they sat back on the bed, a little closer than before.
“I guess I learnt a few things along the way when you're friends with the best dancers out here.” As you finished your sentence, he peered into your eyes, making no sound as the room fell silent.
“Soo, what did you want to talk about?” you awkwardly state to relieve some tension in the air.
“I don't know how to explain it, but I kind of heard your "secret" as it passed through the practice room, and I simply wanted to be the first one to tell you about it because-
Your heart stopped pounding as your world came crashing down around you. You didn't want to hear it; the rejection; you'd rather live in your fantasy world, where you don't have to worry about anything. It wasn't true if you didn't hear it.
“Wait, if you can't reconcile those feelings, don't say anything; just let me go.” They're probably curious about our whereabouts anyway.” And with that, you stood up and walked towards the door, but you were pulled back by his hand.
He kissed you as swiftly as his hands linked with yours. You were taken aback at first by his passion, but you regained your calm and reminded yourself of what was going on: he was really kissing you, and you were really kissing him, and the rest of the world was inconsequential.
You were chilling on the outside while shouting for joy at the top of your lungs on the inside, as if your inner child had been set free. You had to be sure if this was a dream or if it was happening in real life.
“Ouch”
“Why did you do that?” Dokyeom asked as he gripped your arm in his.
“I had to double-check that I wasn't dreaming; this isn't the first time something like this has happened to me.”
“So you're saying I've been in your dreams?” he laughed as he cocked his head to the side and placed his hand in yours.”
You smacked your forehead and shook your head, realizing you couldn't get out of this one, and now he knew you fantasize about him. You didn't mind because the lad of your dreams was right in front of your eyes.
AND HE WAS HOLDING YOUR MF HAND. It was clear that your diary needed to be updated.
Stopping at the door, you placed your palm on his chest and worriedly stared at him.
“Wait, how did you find out?”
“Well, a tiny birdie was chattering loudly about it, his name rhymes with coo,” he said as he grabbed your hand in his and opened the door and began the walk downstairs.
“Fucking Boo Seungkwan”

All Cream, No Sugar
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: Hello everyone! Here is my sfw fic that was submitted to my friend @writing-in-april for the 4th Fic Swap on @imagining-in-the-margins ‘s Discord! Not my best work because I have been struggling to manage time lately and balance everything with my school and personal life. But I hope it is enjoyable nonetheless!
-------------------------------------
It was Thursday. Possibly the worst day of the week. Even more awful than Monday. It always felt like a barricade between the beginning of the week and the weekend. The glorious, lazy weekend. Honestly, now that I think about it...Thursday has the same kind of feel as November.
I chuckled to myself as I left my apartment. My mind was a special place, and I guess today was no different. Better than thinking about my finals, though. Literally anything was better to think about instead of final exams. That’s why I’m treating myself to a break at my favorite coffee shop. I deserve it, really, after the studying I have been doing all day. At least, that’s what I tell myself so I feel okay about spending all this money on coffee.
The car ride over there was quick enough. I lived on the outskirts of the city, but this place has the best coffee, and I would drive a ridiculous amount of time to get to it. No matter the distance, it would be worth it.
And maybe...just maybe…I would see that guy that comes in sometimes. The one with the messy hair and the sweater vests. He was so intriguing. I don’t even know his name, but I always notice when he comes in while I’m there. It was pretty much impossible not to. Hopefully one day I would work up the nerve to talk to him. Maybe that day would be today.
I walked in the building, and the smell of coffee and sweets immediately hit me. It was so comforting. Almost like a tiny sanctuary away from home, and I was always so appreciative.
As soon as the little bell on the door rang, the barista behind the counter looked up and shot me a smile. They recognized me quite often.
“Hey, (Y/N), the usual?” she called from across the floor.
“You know it,” I said with a wink.
I took my favorite seat in the shop and looked around. It was pretty empty today, which was just the way I like it. It means less time to wait for my coffee and I can sit in peace. The only thing that would make it better is if that guy came in and I got my big girl pants on to ask him his name.
After a few minutes, my coffee was brought to me and I handed the waiter some cash for my order, with a good amount leftover for a tip. His smile was bright and thankful, and it made me hopeful for today.
Each time the door opened and another person walked in, my heart skipped a beat. I stopped counting when I got to 10 people that turned out not to be him. It irked me more than I care to admit.
I was starting to lose hope, staring daggers at the dregs of my leftover coffee. Perhaps I thought I would find him there? I just wanted to see him.
A tap on my shoulder drew me out of my thoughts. Well, it startled me out of them more like. With a gasp, I jumped and looked up at the person who tapped on me. It was the barista who greeted me and made my coffee. Sophie. My favorite barista to spill all my problems to.
“You okay? You look like you’re really thinking hard about something.”
I sighed and almost smiled at how ridiculous I was being.
“Yeah, I’m okay. And I was thinking about something. Can you sit for a minute?”
She nodded, “I’m on break, thankfully.”
Once she took her seat across from me at the tiny table, I wrapped my fingers around the now room temperature coffee cup in front of me.
“So, what’s up? What could you possibly be thinking about that’s got you looking like that?”
“Um, well. There’s this guy…”
Her eyes widened and she leaned forward a bit, as if to ask me to continue.
“You might have seen him in here before. He comes in as much as I do, which is why I noticed him.”
“What does he look like?”
“Well, he’s tall. He wears sweaters a lot...um…oh, his hair is kind of messy, but in a cute way. And he has this dumb little satchel he carries sometimes-”
“Does he look like that guy?” Sophie asked as she pointed behind me.
I followed where her finger was pointing by the door and sure enough, he was there. But he was there with another girl I had never seen him with before. She had dark hair and striking eyes, along with a certain air about her that just gave off badass vibes. Of course he would have a girlfriend. And a gorgeous one at that.
I turned back to Sophie quickly before he noticed me staring.
“Uh, yeah. That would be him. But I’ve never seen that girl before. It figures, though. Just my luck.”
The pair began walking farther into the shop, talking quietly as they approached the counter to order. The more they talked and smiled at each other, the more my heart seemed to falter.
“Oh, (Y/N),” Sophie said quietly so only I would hear, “I’m so sorry.”
I didn’t respond to her. I didn’t have to. The look in my eyes was enough to let her know what I was thinking and feeling.
Her break was about to be over, so she placed a hand gently on top of mine, and with a small smile, left me there.
Well, there was only one thing left to do. Get another coffee, and maybe something sweet to drown my sorrows in.
I took a deep breath and stood up, grabbing my empty cup to throw away when I got to the front to order. I didn’t see them anywhere now. They must have ordered already and found a seat. But truthfully, I didn’t look around for them long. I didn’t want to.
I ordered a black coffee and a doughnut, and waited for a second for them to hand me my order instead of going back to my table to wait. Sometimes they put too much creamer in the coffee, so this way I could go over to the cream and sugar stand and make it myself.
Coffee and doughnut in hand, I made my way over to the small fridge they left out for customers to put in their own creamer and milk. I wasn’t really feeling the flavored seasonal creamers they had, so I just grabbed the half and half and started pouring. I didn’t really want any sugar either. I had my doughnut, which I probably wouldn’t even eat to be honest. My stomach was in knots.
A sudden voice behind me knocked me out of my thoughts.
“All cream, no sugar, huh? I’m the total opposite.”
I was so startled that my hand seemed to seize up, causing me to jerk the carton of half and half away from the cup. Now there was liquid all over the counter.
“Oh. I’m so sorry- Here, let me. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
I still hadn’t looked at who was talking to me, so when the footsteps got closer and I felt someone next to me, I decided I should finally look up.
It was him. The guy. The one I came here for. Except now he was standing right next to me.
He grabbed a handful of paper towels and started wiping up the mess on the counter while I stood wide-eyed and in shock. I should probably say something.
“I’m so sorry. I was...thinking about something and you startled me. I feel so clumsy.”
He looked up at me with a hint of a smile on his face.
“No, it’s really my fault. I’m not good at talking to people.”
Once he had finished cleaning up, he threw the paper towels away and turned back towards me.
“What’s your name? I see you in here sometimes. I guess you could say we’re both regulars.”
A lump formed in my throat that I had to swallow down forcefully. He saw me in here sometimes? He noticed me? Did he ever see me looking at him? Oh no.
“Um, my name is (Y/N). I see you in here sometimes too. The coffee here is really good, yeah?”
He smiled again, but bigger and more pronounced this time. Nodding his head, he shifted his bag and looked back at me.
“My name’s Spencer. It’s nice to officially meet you.”
Now it was my turn to smile. This was going pretty good, all things considered. It’s too bad about that girl he’s with, though. Speaking of the girl, she was walking towards us right now. Fantastic. Just what my anxiety needed.
“Spencer, we just got a call. Did you not pay attention to your phone?” the woman said in a hurry as she came closer.
Spencer jumped a bit and started to dig in his pocket for his phone. He pulled it out and laughed nervously.
“I have it on silent. Whoops.”
The woman rolled her eyes and then seemed to notice me standing there.
“Ohh, I see. You had it on mute so you could talk to this girl you were telling me about, hmm? Better hope I don’t tell Hotch”
Spencer opened and closed his mouth a few times, and I was simply shocked. He wanted to talk to me? Like, on purpose? He told this woman about me?
“I’ll meet you outside, Emily,” Spencer groaned at her.
The woman named Emily smiled at me and winked before leaving. So now it was just me and Spencer, standing awkwardly together. Great.
“I, um...ignore her. She’s a colleague from work...and apparently my wing woman now.”
I couldn’t help but sigh in relief. So she was just a friend. I had gotten myself all sad and anxious for nothing. Honestly, that’s typical for me though, so…
I could only smile. So much so that it made my cheeks hurt.
“So, do you have to leave? For work or something?”
Spencer shifted his weight nervously.
“Yeah, I um, yeah I’m sorry. I really would like to stay and talk more. I hope you don’t find it weird I told her about you, by the way. I just notice you in here a lot and I think you’re really pretty and I just-”
He cut himself off suddenly and looked at me sadly.
“I have to go, but here.”
Hurriedly, he pulled out a scrap piece of paper from his bag and a pen. He leaned over the counter and quickly wrote his name and number on the paper and handed it to me somewhat forcefully.
“Text me or call me...you know, if you want. Um, I really have to go. I’m sorry.”
He turned on his heel and began walking towards the door.
“Spencer!” I called across the shop.
Spencer stopped in his tracks and turned to look at me, almost with an excited glint in his eye.
I held the paper he gave me gently in my hand and took a deep breath to calm my pounding heart.
“I noticed you, too.”

warnings: cursing, jealousy, mutual pining, slow burn romance, aged-up to third year, love triangle (square?), physical injuries, kirishima gets a little toxic, also shirtless bakugou (awooga), a crap ton of time skips bc i can’t write action scenes for shit, bakugou is a flirt (lowkey but yeah), mentions of blood
word count: 2112
pt 1 , pt 3
- - -
kirishima had broken the skin on his lower lip with how hard he was biting it. he stood in the bathroom, rinsing his mouth, ignoring the slight sting the water brought.
y/n was currently being blasted by bakugou, and they were fighting back.
jealousy panged in his chest.
bakugou had never let him know about how he felt about you, however kirishima was sure he felt something for them. you and bakugou were both a jumble of prideful and longing stares towards each other from across every room. the tension was thick enough to slice through. and while kirishima would never make a move in fear of ruining the friendship between him and bakugou, as well as him and y/n, gosh it didn’t stop him from wanting to.
he’d stood on the side, cheering you on to no end. the sports festival last year, the year before that, training exercises, he was always there. kirishima was always there.
whenever you needed him, whenever you wanted his company. so what did bakugou have over him? sure, the blond was strong and had bigger goals than kirishima, but why should that matter?
what did bakugou have? why would you want him more when he was never near you? never made an effort to see you to be there when you asked for help.
it was popular belief that bakugou was a noisy idiot, but he was actually quite a quiet boy. he didn’t bother to raise his hand in class, however he always knew the answer. he spoke rarely and only made conversation with those he was close with if they were the ones to make the effort to converse with him first.
jealousy, jealousy, jealousy. kirishima despised it.
whenever did he begin wanting to beat bakugou at something?
the cloud of guilt welling up in his chest was going to become unbearable, and soon everything he ever wanted to say was going to come up like word vomit at the worst possible time.
you swiped at your cheek, brushing off the crumbling dirt. your timing had been off, and their flip backwards had landed you in an awkward position. a vulnerable one.
honestly, though, it wasn’t like it really mattered. bakugou was a bit transparent himself. he wore a smug look like a golden medal, and held back his power just enough to keep you on your feet.
his cocky attitude was irritating and it drew you in like a moth drawn to a lamp.
sweat was beading down your temple. the day was exceptionally hot, the sun beaming down on your back like a proud child.
you and bakugou had been at it for a while. with anyone else, you would have quit by now. it’s not that you gave up easily. no, not ever. but fights could get boring, especially if you were just smashing away at them with your quirk and they were acting like they could take it.
perhaps you were being cocky.
this fight, though. this was interesting. not only because it was bakugou; also because you knew so little about him.
it was likely he never shared anything important to anyone. he was quite introverted.
it was interesting for another reason.
it was hot, bakugou sweats a lot. gosh, he looked delicious without a shirt on. he had a built figure accompanied by strong arms and a broad chest.
he’d filled out quite nicely the past few years. you hadn’t noticed until now how much he’d grown.
“don’t get distracted.”
your eyes snapped up from his chest to his eyes. bakugou became a blur, shooting himself off the ground and flipping once in the air before propelling himself back down.
before you could do anything, bakugou had you pinned, one leg pinning yours, both his hands wrapped around your wrists. he’d ditched his gauntlets, leaving the metal assistants in the sweltering heat, claiming he wanted to give you an equal fight.
he panted atop you, hands tightening.
tokage didn’t bother to leave her dorm today, thank goodness. it had just been the three of you. you, bakugou, and kirishima.
the red head had suspiciously vanished halfway through the fight, though.
bakugou’s crimson eyes bored into yours. neither of you blinked for a moment. perhaps just a small eternity each of you silently reveled in.
his erratic breaths slowed, and so did yours, although you stayed the same. unmoving, faces neutral but eyes giving away long-held secrets.
your ears flushed, and butterflies came rising up uncontrollably. you should have pushed him off. instead you gave him a wicked grin, which earned a look from him and you couldn’t tell if he was confused or annoyed.
“your big ass forehead is blocking the bright-as-hell sun. stay like this,” you mocked, wrenching your wrists from his grasp and snaking your arms around his neck.
his cheeks burned red. “w-what?”
“you heard me.”
he scoffed, tugging you off his neck and standing. “shut up, shitface. we aren’t even done yet.” he readied himself in a fighting stance once more.
“i thought you said you wanted to stop when you won?” you brushed yourself off as you stood.
“i know what i said. you probably weren’t even giving it your all.”
“’course i was.” you cocked your head. “why wouldn’t i?”
“you’re strong, damn idiot.”
you feigned surprise, pressed a hand to your fluttering chest. “the bakugou, dynamight himself, complimenting a humble soul like me? oh, i really must be good, then.”
“not as good as me.” his face dropped from a smile. bakugou never got enough training no matter how early or late he stayed up, or how many hours on the weekends were spent kicking a bag or sparring with friends. hard workers did all of the work there was a still wondered if they were doing enough. the number one spot wasn’t empty, but it was still reserved for dynamight.
y/n had collapsed on their bed. kirishima was itching to tell them how he felt, however he was stuck at the doorway.
they weren’t even dressed for bed, nor were they showered.
he settled with leaving his friend alone, and shut the door softly to find bakugou standing right behind him.
kirishima jumped back, closing his eyes in relief. “bakugou. what the heck man?”
“you’re creepy as shit.”
“i- what? you were the one staring at me while i-”
“while you peeped in on y/n?”
“i wasn’t peeping. i walked them back after the fight and they just collapsed. you were off doing something else and you worked them too hard.”
it wasn’t a shock that bakugou was still riled up from the duel. this boy had the energy of a mad man.
when bakugou didn’t say anything, kirishima said once again, “you overworked them.”
bakugou swat away the comment. “only because they’re not working hard enough.”
kirishima raised an eyebrow. “they work hard. they’re perfectly fine.”
“fine?”
“they’re amazing.”
“i know that, shitty hair. you think i’m blind?”
“everyone can make improvements at their own pace.” kirishima’s voice dropped.
“you train with me.”
“it’s an hour before curfew.”
bakugou jut a thumb in the direction of the door. “so? maybe you need some more practice, too,” he joked.
“you’re an ass, bakugou,” kirishima released a breathy chuckle.
the two wandered off to one of the training grounds. it was open, a wide court where they’d both kicked someone else’s ass.
the sun was just setting, a new cool breeze coming to fill the spot of the violent sun rays.
it was routine to fight each other out of nowhere. kirishima was usually quite playful, spewing jokes once in a while and taunting his friend.
this fight was different. his face was stone-cold. kirishima often took the defensive role, as his quirk didn’t allow him to project any direct attacks to bakugou.
it wasn’t like kirishima was angry at bakugou, but as soon as they started charging towards one another, he couldn’t hold back. his chest tightened, arms hardening and joints becoming strong and stiff.
with one clean sweep of his arm, bakugou was backing away from kirishima, propelling himself to the edge of the arena with a small blast. he’d always been up for a challenge. kirishima was willing to give him one.
his sudden competitive demeanor seemed to be egging on bakugou’s. the blond tongued the inside of his cheek, grunting as he shot forth, hair flying wildly.
swiftly, kirishima dodged, just barely missing a blast. his torso wasn’t hardened, so if he’d dodged any later, his stomach would have been scorched.
bakugou always took their fights seriously. he knew better than to underestimate the boy who had put together his very own rescue mission.
kirishima’s opponent stumbled from the momentum. he took his chance and brought a hardened elbow down on bakugou’s back, hearing a satisfying crack.
bakugou was crushed to the ground with the hit. his face smashed into the sandy ground. he coughed, turning over and spitting dirt to the side.
it took a moment for him to register what he did, but kirishima was at bakugou’s side within seconds. the sun was nearly gone, a pale blue sky flickering with the first sights of stars.
it was hard to make it out at first, but not impossible. kirishima saw the blood dripping and smeared just above bakugou’s lip. he groaned, cupping his face in both hands as he sat upright.
“argh” bakugou gasped. “shit, kirishima. what the hell?”
“i...i’m sorry dude, i didn’t mean to.” i wanted to, but i didn’t mean to.
bakugou raised an eyebrow and let a smile seep through his pain. “you’re improving, though.”
“are you alright?” kirishima traced the small cut on his lip from earlier with the tip of his tongue.
“i’m fine, i’m fine.” bakugou swatted his hand away. he struggled to get up, refusing kirishima’s help.
“we should head back before this gets any worse.”
bakugou kept his large hands hovering under his chin to catch the dripping and occasional chunks of blood.
although he wanted the duel to continue (it was finally interesting) bakugou wasn’t stubborn enough to keep going. so he nodded, once again denying kirishima’s efforts to help him out.
you were in the common area, fiddling with a rubik’s cube. it was just you, as everyone else was spending the night among each other. ashido had invited you to her dorm a while ago, but you’d denied, wanting to spend a few more giddy moments to yourself.
the door rattled, and in came your two friends, one with furrowed brows and the other with blood drenching the front of his shirt.
bakugou’s head was tilted up in an attempt to stop the blood from flowing down. his adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed the blood trailing down the back of his throat.
“oh my gosh,” you gasped out, racing to the bathroom. you came back with sanitary wipes in one hand and tissue in the other. “what happened?”
“we were training,” kirishima started, taking a few tissues from the box and handing them to his friend, “and i accidentally hit him too hard.”
“you didn’t hit me that hard. you barely did any damage!” bakugou objected. you approached him, and through his fingers, bakugou peered down at you.
you asked him with your eyes, and he gave you silent permission to pry his arms away from his face. “are you okay?”
“i’m just dandy,” he scoffed.
“dude, i’m really sorry—”
“shut the hell up kirishima. i don’t want your pity. i swear this is the only time i’ll surrender to you, you asswipe.”
you didn’t laugh, not even a chuckle. “bakugou, you need to see recovery girl.”
“what the hell? no way. all she’s gonna do is give me one of those shitty slobbery kisses and scold me for being careless.”
“your nose is broken,” you said gently.
“so? can’t you fix it?”
you raised a questioning brow. “you want me to help you?”
“can you or can you not?”
“i can try to set it but you’re better off going to recovery girl instead of settling with―”
“all i need is possible. i don’t want to deal with that old lady’s shit right now.” using the tissues kirishima had stuffed into his hand, he caught the remaining blood dripping down his nose. “let’s go.”
you were more than unsure. he would end up with a crooked nose if you made any small mistake, but he didn’t think twice as he grabbed your shoulder and led you in the direction of your dorm.
kirishima wished he hadn’t broken bakugou’s nose. not because he felt bad, though.

“Okay, okay. What colour am I thinking of now.” Peter squealed, plopping himself down on your bed, staring at you like a kid on christmas.
Being the Avengers personal psychic has its benefits, but this was certainly not one of them. You thought your party-trick of a superpower would have grown old on your friends, and yet it always seemed to draw a crowd of non-believers. You weren't the toughest or the strongest by any means, but you sure knew your way around a person's thoughts, which proved to be an advantage to the team. Mostly you were in charge of recon, but that didn't stop Natasha from dragging you to the gym every weekend and torturing you with super hero level workouts.
“How many more times are we going to do this, Peter?” You sighed, but soon realised he wasnt caving. “Blue. Just like last time it was orange and the time before that thirteen. Can we please stop.”
Peter scanned you over for a moment, before relaxing back on your headboard.
Fine, but only because Mr. Stark said he was ordering Chinese and it's probably here by now. His voice echoed through your mind.
“Actually, I heard Wanda say he’s getting pizza.” You corrected.
“How did you-?” He paused, eyes agape as your words registered. “That is seriously cool, you know that? I mean, I hang from the walls but that- that is cool! I can see why they coined you The Witch now,” Peter playfully shouted. “Can you do that with anyone, at any time?”
You smiled sheepishly, remembering the times your wandering mind had gotten you in some pretty uncomfortable situations. You tried your very best to stay out of your friends heads, but sometimes that was easier said than done. Especially when it came to the former Hydra assassin. His thoughts seemed to creep into your mind, seeping through the cracks unbidden. Sometimes his mind would wander aimlessly, but that wasn't always the case. You knew about Bucky’s dark past, however hearing it in his own cruel words was something else entirely. Though he would never utter the words allowed they were seared into your mind. You had every sense to avoid the man and yet his voice, like gravel and smoke, drew you in, intoxicated on his every word as it clouded around your subconscious.
“Unfortunately” You sighed, easing back into the mattress and unconsciously biting at the corner of your mouth. Your gift didnt make you very popular when you were younger. You were honestly surprised it was so welcomed here. Most people consider you an invasion of privacy...  But Peter was different from the highschool kids you grew up with. Maybe it was due to the fact he was different too, but something about the way his mind wandered made you believe that radio-active spider or not, Peter would always be Peter.
“What does Bucky think about?”
That knocked you out of your thoughts. You snapped your head up and looked at Peter, who only seemed to have a curious look in his eyes.
He’s so broody and mysterious. Guy gives me the creeps.
“Bucky is a sweetheart deep down.” You faked a smile, concerned as to why you felt the need to defend him. From an outside perspective, it was possible to fear the former Winter Soldier. However, knowing what you did haunted your nerves.
“I’m sure very, very deep down.” Peter chuckled. “I’m going to go grab some pizza before Sam eats it all. Are you coming?”
You smiled softly, preparing yourself for the dinner with your friends. Though you enjoyed having a sort of family, dinners together would often grow overwhelming in your mind, voices colliding though your head, brewing into a storm in your thoughts.
“I’ll be down in a few.” With that, Peter stumbled out of your room and down the hallway leaving you with your thoughts. You closed your eyes, concentrating on the many different voices faintly echoing around you. You could only make out bits and pieces as they vibrated through the walls and all around you. At first, it was hard to identify whose voice belonged to who, but soon after you moved into the compound it became easy.
Natasha thought in poems. Her brain was always working on the next solution- the next verse. Her mind wandered in and out of trains of thought like a dancer, drifting back and forth with ease. It was always relaxing listening in.
Tony was constantly listening to his music wherever he went. You had an inkling it was because he knew how powerful you were. ‘Like built-in surveillance,’ he’d often say. Though, you’d never deflate his ego in letting him know you could still hear his thoughts clear as day.
But then there was Bucky. It took you a while to understand his thoughts. They always seemed erratic and chased- never one thought all at once, but it soon became clear why. Bucky was constantly correcting himself. When his mind began to tiptoe into the darkest corners, he’d change the conversation, ushering it back to what he thought was right. Listening to his internal debates became a favourite pastime of yours. He often reminisced about his time in the forties. You liked how easy it was, listening to him think. Though you had never said more than five words to him allowed, you were content with this little part of him. Pieces only you both knew. Like the beautiful woman he would lose himself daydreaming about. The way he described her made you feel flush all over. He never thought her name, and yet it stung all the more knowing his heart was stolen. His beautiful ‘ведьма’. Not that you stood a fighting chance. Not to mention the impending age gape you both shared. Often he would find you staring and a string of curses would follow as he realised he’d be caught. You never meant to intrude, but then again, that wasn't entirely true.
With a huff, you swung your legs off the bed letting your feet hit the cold wooden floors, but before you could even open the door, you heard him. His voice was so loud you almost didn't know if he was speaking aloud or not.
Just do it, you punk. Walk up there and ask her. What’s the worst that could happen?.... She could plunge a knife into your back- no…. She wouldn't do that and you know it. If you ask her, she might say yes… Honestly that might he worse than-
You swing the door open, startling Bucky back a few paces as your eyes might his. Instantly his face blooms with pink as his mind races- his thoughts an incoherent mess.
“Hi Bucky.” You spoke only above a whisper.
“Oh jesus! I didn't know you were right there.” He mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck trying to steady his breathing.
“Sorry…” You mumbled, breaking eye contact and suddenly finding the floor very interesting. “I didn mean to scare you-”
“You don’t- I mean, you didn't scare me.” He chuckled, his mind suddenly blank. “It doesn't matter right now because I, uh… I was wondering if you're coming for dinner.”
You nodded your head, “Yeah, on my way now.” You smiled softly.
“Great,” Bucky grinned, running his hand through his cropped hair and stepping aside. “I can walk with you.”
You nodded, swallowing hard as you swung the door shut and began walking side by side with Bucky in heavy silence.
“Know what’s for dinner?” Bucky finally spoke.
“Pizza. Your favourite.” You affirmed, meeting his curious eyes. His strides slowed until he was at a full stop.
“I never told you that.” He pried, looking at your in question.
You froze, suddenly aware of what you had just said. There was nothing more you wanted than to sink into the floor and let the earth swallow you whole.
“Uh,” You nervously laughed, “You must have at some point. Yeah, I remember now, it was-”
“How often do you listen?” he interrupted, making your mouth clamp shut.
You thought about lying, though it didn't seem right. You knew all his secrets and all he asked was this one. Surely you could grant him that even if it cost a punch to the ego.
“All the time,” You started, your eyes never leaving the floor. “I don’t mean to. At least that’s the way it started. I really try to put you guys all on ‘mute’ when we're together, but your voice always comes through. I don't know what it is, but I like the way you think.” You admitted, feeling heat rising from your chest.
“You like the way I think?” He pried, taking a few steps closer to you. You could feel the tension buzzing around the hallway, ricocheting off the walls and exploding all around you.
“I’m sorry, I’m so embarrassed. It's such an invasion of privacy. You must hate me. I promise I won't tell anyone about the things I hear. Especially her.”
“Her?” He chuckled, taking another step toward you leaving only a few tiles between the two of you.
“Ведьма.” You choked out. “You think about her all the time. She sounds beautiful, by the way. I’m sorry, that's overstepping… I just, I’m sorry. Really I’ll just go-”
Before you could turn on your heel and run for the hills, Bucky's hands were around your wrists, holding you still. His eyes were pleading as he opened he opened and shut his mouth trying to find the right words to say.
“For a witch, you sure aren’t very intuitive.” Bucky signed, your eyes finally landing on his.  “My beautiful witch, don’t know by now?”
You blinked at him, your mouth suddenly dry and words caught in your throat. Before you could speak, his thoughts broke through the air, tumbling around you.
Are you listening, doll? His voice echoed around you sending a shiver down your spine. You nodded your head, watching as his eyes crinkled up as he a lopsided grin formed on his pink lips.
It’s you. It’s always you. I've tried to stop, trust me. I just can’t seem to shake it.
You almost didn't notice the smile that began to pull at the corners of your mouth as you took in his words. They drifted in the air around you, echoing through your mind as Bucky’s thumbs rubbed circles into your skin.
“Ask me.” You spoke up, a sudden confidence serging through your core. Bucky raised a brow, scanning you over until your words resonated with him.
“Right, of course.” He cleared his throat, letting go of your hands and intertwining his own nervously. “Would you ever consider letting me take you out. To dinner, maybe?”
You bit down on your bottom lip to stop yourself from giggling as you listened to his internal monologue of nerves that followed his question.
“Took you long enough.” You chuckled, watching as his smile lit up the room around you. Before you could stop yourself you closed the distance between you, draping your arms around his shoulders and crashing your lips onto his. Bucky froze, but almost as instantly melted into you, his hands finding their home on your hips as he pulled you in. You wanted nothing more than to melt into him but his racing thoughts swirled around you, causing a giggle to fall from your lips.
Holy Shit. Kiss her back, you moron. Oh god she smells so good. What is that? Cinnamon? Citrus? Shit, she's so close to me. Don't panic. Don't panic. Fuck she feels good. Just relax, and- Oh shit. Can you hear me?
You couldn't help but throw your head back, laughter bubbling out of your chest as his thoughts raced through his head.
“I can tell you're going to be a lot of fun, Barnes” You mumbled against his lips.

masterlist in bio ↴
Y/N HUFFED UNENTHUSIASTICALLY as she and a couple other Slytherins were the last to filter into Slughorn's lesson for the day and she dropped her leather bag on the floor beside her seat. Daphne Greengrass, her potion's partner as of late, flashed her a close-mouthed smile. She hadn't noticed it when she'd walked in, but Professor Slughorn must've brewed a potion for the day, because the whole room was filled with a familiar smell. "I reckon we've got an exciting lesson today," she hummed to the brunette as she took a seat beside her.
Daphne shrugged her shoulders and tucked a lock of her shiny, brown hair behind her ear. "If we haven't, at least it smells nice," she countered. "Like lemon and broom wax and steak dinners almost," she elaborated and she slumped against her hand, which was propped up on the table.
At that, Y/N's eyebrows knitted together, because that was not what she smelled. The room was flooded with the smell of pine trees, amongst other things, but those were the clearest to her. "What? Daph, that's completely—" she started to protest, to voice her confusion, but Professor Slughorn stood up from his desk and made his way towards a table in the center of the room, silencing all conversation as he did. Perhaps his lecture would clear up her confusion.
"Alright, everyone. I trust you're all doing well this afternoon," he greeted as he situated himself for everyone to see. Nods of agreement rippled through the classroom and he did the same. "Good, good. If you'll all do me a favor and gather round, please," he instructed, motioning towards the opposite side of the table with his hands, his fingers breaking through the steam from the potion that sat on top of it. Y/N and Daphne shared a curious look, before the two of them followed the rest of the class and stood up out of their seats. They joined the rest of the students in front of the table. "Can anyone tell me what this potion is?" Professor Slughorn questioned after everyone had settled in, and he eyed them all in anticipation. When nobody spoke up, he chuckled once. "This," he hummed, gesturing to the cauldron on the desk, "this is amortentia, the most powerful love potion in the world," he explained. "Sound familiar to anyone?"
Y/N's eyes drifted from Slughorn to the steaming cauldron as his question, because it did, in fact, sound familiar to her. She remembered reading about it in a book, which she'd long forgotten the name of, that she'd borrowed from the library in one of her previous years and she'd found it a little peculiar. She swallowed thickly, glancing around the room to see if anyone else was feeling inclined to answer, but when nobody did, she let her hand creep upwards slowly.
"And what do you know about amortentia, Miss Y/L/N?" Professor Slughorn asked, folding his hands in front of him as he encouraged her to speak and she smiled awkwardly.
"Well, like you said, it's the most powerful love potion in existence, and regardless of its title, it's unable to create actual love, only obsession. For that reason, it can be dangerous, because someone who holds a deep infatuation with another can be unpredictable," she explained, her eyes flickering around at all of her classmates. Some of them seemed interested, and others were looking elsewhere, but when her eyes landed on Draco Malfoy's, his direct eye contact made her shiver. Merlin. She averted her gaze quickly. "Supposedly, it smells different for everyone, too, as it's made to remind them of the things they're most attracted to, even if they're oblivious of their fondness for said things," she continued. Her eyes wandered over to Daphne, who was looking at her with raised eyebrows, probably realizing that the smell she'd described earlier was unique to her.
Y/N crossed her arms over her chest as she fell silent, waiting for Slughorn to continue his lesson, but before he could, Malfoy interrupted. "Fancy telling us what you smell, Y/L/N?" he asked, a smirk settled in on his pale pink lips, and she shot him a cross look. "That mean it's someone foul?" he added teasingly and Blaise Zabini chuckled softly from behind him.
She was about to tell him to bugger off, because Professor Slughorn piped up. "Actually, that's not a bad idea," he hummed, completely oblivious to the fact that Malfoy had only been pestering her, and he gestured towards the potion. "Why don't you come up and give it a sniff?" he asked.
She nodded at him with a smile and she advanced towards the table, throwing Malfoy another nasty look over her shoulder as she did, but he was entirely unfazed. She turned her attention towards the cauldron sitting on the table top and she leaned over it. The potion had a pearly shimmer to it and steam spiraled up out of the container. She closed her eyes to keep from getting distracted as she drew in a deep breath. She nodded and turned back towards the class. She started, pinning each scent to a memory in her brain, and she swallowed. It sort of smelled like the air after a day-long thunderstorm and old parchment, with hints of pine and expensive cologne. Her eyes darted towards Draco almost immediately, knowing that his smell was too distinct not to recognize, and her stomach dropped. He was looking back at her just as intensely, and he cocked an eyebrow. She tore her gaze off of him and spun back around towards Professor Slughorn. "I don't smell anything," she lied.
"Well, that's impossible. You must smell something," he explained, but she shook her head.
"Nope," she said, not unaware of a cold stare driving holes in the back of her head. "Nothing."
"That's quite peculiar," he said. "Anyone else want to give it a go, then?" he asked, and on Y/N's way back to her place beside Daphne, she didn't miss the way that Draco's eyes followed her every step.
✷ ✷ ✷
The rest of the day had come and gone since Slughorn's lesson and Y/N and Daphne had spent their time in the library, letting the sunlight fade and the students scatter. It wasn't until their curfew had nearly rolled around that they found themselves entering the Slytherin common room once again. "I didn't want to ask in front of everyone in the library, but who smells like lemon and broom wax?" Y/N piped up, her eyes adjusting to the soft green light of the dungeons as they walked in.
Daphne's eyes widened slightly and she grabbed Y/N's arm, stopping her in her tracks. "You've got to promise not to tell," she hummed, the girl's brown eyes darting around the room to make sure there was no other students in earshot. Y/N lifted her hand up and made a zipping emotion across her lips, turning an imaginary key and casting it aside. "I'm not sure yet, but I think it smelled like Blaise," she muttered quietly, despite the fact that everyone seemed to have been tucked inside their dorms already.
"No way," Y/N blurted, the boy in question flickering in her mind. "That explains the steak dinner thing, then, too," she added, referring to the way he'd taken Daphne to Hogesmeade to grab dinner that past weekend, and she laughed.
"Yeah, I just don't know if I should tell him. Maybe he smelled me, too, you know?" she speculated.
Y/N cocked an eyebrow at her. "Oh, he so did," she affirmed. "He couldn't keep his eyes off of you all class," she explained and she smiled slightly at the way her cheeks flushed red.
The girl shook her head softly, hopeful, but still in denial. Daphne's eyes fluttered over Y/N's shoulder and her eyebrows lifted. "You know, speaking of staring," she muttered, lowering her voice and jutting her chin out to the right of them. "Draco looks like he's trying to set you on fire with his mind," she teased, bringing her fingers up to her temples and narrowing her gaze dramatically.
"Salazar, we don't need to make ourselves so obviously aware, do we?" Y/N hissed softly. She grabbed both of Daphne's wrists and shoved them down quickly, sparing a quick glance over her shoulder to confirm that Draco was, in fact, glaring at her.
Daphne was giggling quietly to herself. "I knew he was going to want to talk to you eventually," she hummed triumphantly, tilting her chin up with confidence.
Y/N shot her a look. "How could you possibly—"
"You're gonna tell me that you don't know he fancies you?" Daphne cut her off, careful to keep her voice low, and Y/N's eyes blew wide. "I'm not buying it. He never leaves you alone," she elaborated.
"Are you crazy? I would welcome that, if it were true, but he hates me."
"He doesn't seek you out everyday to talk to bug you because he hates you, you git," Daphne said. "He doesn't even do that to Potter. I think he'll take any attention he can get from you," she explained, crossing her arms over her chest, and Y/N glanced back over at Draco.
Her eyes locked with his and a shiver travelled down her spine. Her lips parted and she turned back to Daphne. "You think he knows I smelled him?" she asked in a whisper, nerves starting to settle in her stomach, because now, all the times she'd caught him looking at her in class were starting to make sense.
Daphne shrugged. Her eyes darted back towards the blonde. "I think you're about to find out, though," she said. "I'll catch you back in the dorm and I expect to know everything," she added in a rushed whisper and Y/N barely had time to register that her friend was leaving, before she turned around and bumped straight into the last person she wanted to talk to at the moment.
A small gasp left her lips when her chest crashed against Draco's and her hands lifted up to his shoulders steady herself, while his grabbed onto her waist lightly. Her eyes trailed up to meet his, as deep and blue as ever, and her heart was beating so quickly, she thought it might explode. "'M sorry," she muttered, pulling her hands off of him and taking a few steps back out of his own grip when she realized the position they'd been in.
Draco didn't acknowledge her apology, he only ran a hand through his hair and shifted his gaze to his feet. "I know you lied to Slughorn," he said. His voice was lower than usual, lacking the attitude that normally came with it, and she felt her stomach flip.
"What?" she asked, taking a couple more steps backwards when he started to advance forward, but she didn't get far before her back hit the cold, stone wall. There was no escaping him anymore as his eyes met hers again, so close to her that the tips of their shoes were nearly touching, and he blinked at her.
"Your amortentia," he told her, though she'd already known exactly what he'd meant.
"My amortentia?" she repeated quietly, hoping she could buy herself enough time to say something—anything—that might get him off of her back, but she was finding it increasingly hard to concentrate when all she could smell was him, him, him. She silently cursed him for being so close to her. "I didn't smell anything, I—"
She couldn't even finish her sentence before he cut her off, slamming the palms of his hands on either side of her head and trapping her between his arms. "For Merlin's sake, quit lying," he hissed, his face only centimeters away from her own at that point, and her lips parted in surprise. Her eyebrows furrowed as she practically gaped at him, wondering why the situation had intensified so quickly. "What did you smell?" he snarled.
Y/N shot him a look of disgust. She didn't understand why he was being so aggressive about the whole thing, but she didn't appreciate it, no matter how hot it might've been. "I told you. I smelled nothing," she growled, lifting her hands up. She was about ready to shove him away from her at that point, but he let out a frustrated sigh and let his head hang forwards instead. She flexed her fingers in midair, fighting the urge to card them through his hair as the smell of his shampoo really tested her boundaries, but she let them fall back to her sides.
Draco pulled one of his hands off of the wall and ran it over his face. "Bloody hell, Y/L/N, did you smell me or not?" he asked, his voice softer than it had been before, and he tilted his head back up to meet her eyes again. When he did, it was like all of the breath in her lungs was stolen away.
Maybe Daphne was right. Maybe he didn't hate her. "Why would it matter if I smelled you or not?" she questioned.
"I walked in and the whole room smelled like you," he admitted. "I didn't realize what it meant until you talked about it," he told her, and her eyes searched his for any tell that this was all some sort of sick joke, but he looked more sincere than she'd ever seen him before.
A smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth and her stomach did a little leap at his confession. "You smelled me? That's awfully sweet of you," she hummed, all the wrong sorts of tension having faded away, leaving only the good to float about between them. Y/N reached up to brush the backs of her fingers over one of his cheeks, but he caught her wrist in his free hand instead.
Draco gave her a dead stare. "I'm going to ask you once more before I drop the topic altogether, did you or did you not—"
"I did," she caved, cutting his sentence short, and she watched the way that his expression instantly softened. He released the hand that he'd caught in his own, his face still scrunched up a bit, because it was Draco, for Merlin's sake, but she touched it hesitantly to his cheek. Her eyebrows lifted slightly in surprise when his skin felt warm against her fingertips, proving that he wasn't completely reptilian, and she let it slide down his jaw softly. He seemed to lean into her touch, before she let it sit loosely on the back of his neck. "It smelled of rain, and parchment, and entirely of you," she whispered and his eyes swam around in hers.
"Why'd you lie, then?" he asked, his voice quiet.
Y/N shrugged. "I think I panicked," she admitted. "If I said what it smelled like, I was worried everyone might've known my feelings for you," she explained.
Draco nodded once and he leaned forward, his face inching closer to her own. The hand that he had on the wall curled against it and his other hand came up to cup her face. Y/N turned her head to press a kiss to the front of his wrist and he tilted her head to the side, pressing a soft kiss to her collarbone and leaving a trail up her neck. "Were you ever going to tell me?" he questioned.
A grin spread across her lips and she shook her head softly. "Couldn't have my sworn enemy knowing I had a soft spot for him, could I?" she quirked and his lips tilted up into a half-smile.
"Sworn enemy, huh?" he asked and he placed a kiss against the corner of her mouth. "To be honest, I always thought we were flirting," he hummed and she looked at him in disbelief.
"You act like a prat and you call that flirting, Malfoy?" she asked through a slight chuckle and he laughed. "You're unbelievable," she told him. "But I'll take it, so guess," she told him and he pressed his lips to hers again, pulling her closer to him by her waist and keeping her pressed against the wall.
He only broke the kiss to mutter an, "I'd hope so," against her lips and she smiled against his mouth, reaching up to tangle her fingers in his hair.
