Mortal Kombat 2021 with a Platonic, Child Reader

Characters included: Cole Young, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade

Note(s): This is an 'AU' of sorts where they have more time to train and and Shang Tsung doesn't attack Raidens Temple.

This has been in my drafts for about a year now, enjoy!

Cole Young

Sleepovers with Emily? Yes. Absolutely. Cole and Allison get woken up at 5 AM by you two roasting Kano, he has to hold back punching the two of you because he knows that everyone in the Temple would make that personal.

When you're both training at Raiden's Temple, Cole always goes easy on you and views you as his own kid, he gets how finding your Arcana is difficult, especially when it seems like everybody else already has this figured out.

You probably don't have any fighting experience so he takes some extra time to help you, and while he can't teach you any deadly moves, mainly teaching you defense and how to knock out an opponent, he's still very helpful.

Cole gives you extras at dinner, it's not very sneaky, he doesn't even try to hide it. Cue the teasing from everybody else at the table.

If you have anxieties about the tournament he tries calming you down by reading a story, it helped Emily so he can only assume it will help you as well, even for your age it's childish, but it makes things melt away for a moment. There's no training, unfamiliar temple, or Outworld, just Cole and a story.

He gets a mix between anger and sadness whenever anybody mentions the fact you need to participate in the tournament, he's tried to convince Raiden to take you out, to no avail, it leaves him to spend more time with you, he's afraid he'll lose you when the time comes.

Has absolutely no medical experience, the best he can do is carry you to Liu Kang or other medics.

Liu Kang

Liu helps with your temper or anxieties a lot, he's basically always behind you putting a hand on your shoulder, and views himself as an older brother to you.

He's very sympathetic and will give you advice or just listen when you need it, no matter what situation you're in. Liu is extremely truthful as well, if you're in the wrong he will tell you but he'll let you down easy with it.

Liu has a watchful eye on you at all times, he visibly sweats whenever you get close to Kano, Kung Lao teases him for it constantly.

He's like your doctor, and usually won't take you to any other medic in the Temple unless it's necessary, if you're injured in any way he's helping you and you cannot stop him. That is if you ever manage to get hurt anyway, he doesn't let Kung Lao or Kano use their Arcana on you.

Actually your personal hype man, the living embodiment of 'you're doing great sweetie', regardless of how many times you fall over in training, he only counts the times you get up.

Speaking of training, he tends to use repeated attacks so you can learn how to defend against them more easily, he doesn't use his fire unless he's certain you can move away from it, and he's very unsure about using heavier attacks on you.

That's why he's mainly instructing a fight between you and somebody else, so he can set ground rules to keep you not injured while allowing you to learn.

Liu Kang won't talk to you about it, but he's had multiple arguments with Raiden over allowing you to be in the tournament in the first place. He believes that since you're a child, you shouldn't be risking your life. Raiden doesn't listen.

Kung Lao

Kung Lao is probably distant at first, he doesn't really know how to act around children, at least not as an adult. He shares the same opinion of all the chosen, you need to be taken out of the tournament, and while he won't say it out loud, he does back people up when the opinion is shared.

He's more willing to use his aracana and 'deadlier' methods of training, but he has such a control over his fighting style and hat that you've never gotten extremely injured. Anytime you do get injured, he picks you up, regardless of if the injury allows you to walk or not, and takes you to the infirmary himself.

He's not good at comforting words, if you're nervous for the tournament, the most he can say is that fate wouldn't have chosen you for this if it wasn't meant to be.

Kung Lao already despises Kano, but he makes one remark towards you and in his eyes he's about to be a dead man, Liu Kang has had to hold him back on a number of occasions.

Sneaks you extra, and makes some faces at the dinner table, it ends up making everybody else laugh more than anything, but their jokes at his expense make you laugh in turn. So, he technically didn't fail.

He's medically trained and can in fact help most injuries unless they're extremely fatal, like Jax's arms, and so most of them he can fix by simply walking to the infirmary and walking out a minute later, you with a bandaged injury.

Sonya Blade

Sonya is a bit annoyed that a literal child got a mark before her, but then she realises that means you'll need to fight in the tournament, and she proceeds to dedicate everything to training you.

Even if she's not technically allowed to train with you before she gets her mark, she does sneak out with you. While she understands it's not exactly her place, in the short time she's known you she's become attached, and she wants you to have every chance of survival.

As part of the special forces, she's an expert in all types of combat, and will almost definitely teach you how to kill, even if it weighs on her conscience that a child could have blood on their hands thanks to her.

Everybody already knows about this, but even Kung Lao decides to back off once he notices how much she cares for you.

Sonya will get violent with Kano the second he tries to mock or tease you, she won't go too far, but she's teaching him a lesson and she wanted an excuse for months to do so just let her have this one.

At dinner she's firm with your diet, making sure you eat more healthy options every time, which, makes everyone at the table laugh. She's not a complete control freak, she just understands that in situations like these what you're eating is very important.

She's not the best person to come to when you're injured, but not the worst, either, she's very calm unless it's a serious injury, and knows the basics of at least disinfecting the wound / putting pressure on it so it stops bleeding while she brings you to a medic in the Temple.

Randomly kissing them

Hanzo

-he would be surprised and ask what’s gotten into you. Would then gently hold your hand and place a soft kiss on it.

“Is there something bothering you” he’d ask while rubbing his thumb over your knuckles.

“Can’t I kiss the man I love?”

Would get a little shy at that and blush a lot, but will pull you in and kiss you.

100% husband material, absolutely recommend

Kuai Liang

-he would get really shy and stare at you with widen eyes. Does not understand the concept of kissing because you’re just overwhelmed with love. He will blush so much you could swear the ice around the temple is melting. After clearing his throat, he’d ask why you would kiss him like that.

“Because I love you so much”

“Oh..I..” he’d cough “I love you too”

Kabal

-preburn would be so proud. His darling kisses him because they love him so much? He’ll finally feel like his life is getting better. It would be a moment of shock for him tho. That’s when it hits him, he actually has someone who loves him

-post burn would be confused and get slightly defensive. He’d think you’re only doing it out of pity. He would need a lot of reassurance and consistency is the key. If you keep on kissing him randomly he will eventually warm up to it and maybe even kiss you out of the blue. Will look for your touch a lot more tho and will always want to hold your hand.

Kano

-he would stare at you for a second and then smirk and immediately kiss you back. It would quickly turn into a heated make out session with his hands exploring your body while you run your fingers through his hair.

After you pull apart and tell him “you know I kissed you because I love you, right?”, weeell, Kano.exe has stopped working. He’s still getting used to the fact that someone loves him. And even more, he loves someone.

“Um could you repeat that?” he’d ask

“I love you, Kano”

“Yeah..that sounds nice”. Will definitely blush but try to hide it.

Erron Black

-definitely used to random kisses because he does it to you all the time. With Erron is actually the other way around because he’s more likely to kiss you out of the blue than you are. He loves how shy you get whenever he presses his lips against yours.

If one day you feel bold enough to kiss him, he will tease you so much about it, but will also completely melt.

“Look at my sugar being so sweet” he’d say.

Bi-han

-he will be confused to why you just kissed him. Then he will just look at you and wait for an explanation. Not because he didn’t like it, but because it took him by surprise and is now blushing. Him asking for an explanation is his way of gaining control over the situation.

“Well I kissed you because I love you, so much Bi-han. I love you so much”

He will inhale deeply trying his best to keep his cool. Will definitely fail so he’ll just pull you in a hug and hide his face into your shoulder.

Fujin

-his eyes would widen and he’ll just look at you for a while. He wouldn’t understand exactly if this is just another human custom he’s yet to adjust to. After you tell why you kissed him and mention just how much you love him, he will smile so brightly.

He will also feel very grateful you chose to share your feelings this way and will gladly return the favor.

“I am very grateful for the love you give me” he’d tell you.

Liu Kang x Female Reader

Summary: There's a blizzard and you spot a man outside in the snow in need of help. One shot where you have to warm Liu Kang from the freezing cold.

A/N: Happy Holidays, everyone!

The small house was frigid even with towels pressed against the seams of the windows and at the bottom of the front door. Blankets were piled on your couch and you fought with the flue in the ancient fireplace so you could light a proper fire. The wind howled and shook the old house and you shook with it.

A blizzard was on its way and the snow had begun to fall an hour prior. It was one of the nastiest the town had seen in years, you’d been told. You had only moved in a few weeks ago and had gotten the tiny house for a steal. It wasn’t conveniently located to the rest of the town and was closer to a shrine that the town had been built around. Just about everything in the old building needed work but it was yours.

A banging out in the street sent you to the window. Peeking through the curtain you found that a few inches of snow had already fallen and the worst of it hadn’t yet begun. Just beyond your modest yard along the sidewalk was a man you recognized walking past.

Rushing to the door, you peeked out and shivered at the blistering wind. “What are you doing out there? The weather’s supposed to be awful!” You shouted then fought the chills from head to toe. Ah! Too cold! The man was one you recognized. Liu Kang, you thought his name was. He frequented the shrine nearby and you had exchanged pleasantries a few times. He was always nice to you and rather easy on the eyes too.

He pointed to the shrine then offered you a wave and went on his way. How foolish of him in this weather! He wasn’t even wearing a jacket. You hoped he wouldn’t catch cold. He disappeared into the snow and so you returned to the arduous task of fighting with your flue.

Hours passed and the sun crashed. As predicted, the storm grew worse. You had a dreadful feeling that you couldn’t shake and kept habitually checking out the window. Your house wasn’t exactly warm. The fireplace had continued to disobey you so you sat on your couch, covered in blankets, reading. Bad weather was the perfect time to catch up on the constant flow of books you purchased then never read. The wind was ferocious so you lined the windows with tape to fight the chill. It worked better than the towels had.

Nervously peering out the window for the twentieth time, you expected to find the same scenery. Snow whipping in the wind in a gray haze. Instead, you saw something.

A shadow slumped against the light on the corner. The snow was melted around them in a circle. Shedding your cocoon of blankets, you grabbed your coat and slipped on your snow boots. Then you pulled the hood of your coat tight around your face. Almost two feet of snow had fallen since the storm had begun.

You jumped into the snow and pulled your door closed and then yelped. It was freezing and the wind was biting at the little bit of your exposed face! The wind obscured your vision and you longed for goggles.

“Are you okay?” You shouted but your voice was lost on the wind. Whoever it was that was slumped against the light was definitely not okay. Trudging through the snow, you kept your eyes down to keep the snow out of them, looking up every few seconds to check if you were still going the right way. You’d never expected walking through the snow to be this difficult. You fell face first into it twice and had to dig yourself out both times.

But as you drew closer to the light the wall of snow broke and you slipped and fell hard on your backside. The circle that had been cleared around the stranger was now solid ice. Getting onto your knees, you crawled the short distance to the figure hunched against the light post.

Liu Kang.

He was frozen. So much so that when you touched him, he barely moved. You climbed over him and grabbed his face. Your fingers stung with numbness even in gloves. You’d hoped he’d gotten home before the weather had gotten so awful but so much for that.

Touching his face, you tried to wake him up.

“Please, please…” You shouted over the wind. Much to your surprise, his eyes, lashes frosted with snow, opened. His lips parted but if he said anything you couldn’t hear him over the storm. He barely stirred and so you pulled his arm over your shoulder with a huff. He was heavy. You considered yourself strong and this was a lot.

Even so, you began the perilous journey with Liu on your shoulder. You slipped about ten times over the short distance but didn’t fall. Liu, half-conscious, was surprisingly sturdy. The snow was a different monster entirely. The wind whipped so intensely in this direction that you kept losing sight of where you needed to go. No wonder people died in blizzards! Your eyes were in agony and each time you fell, Liu Kang fell with you. Each time you had to lift him again, you were afraid you wouldn’t be able to and would have to drag him.

“Please…” You whispered again and every so often, his legs steadied you, like he was trying to help but couldn’t do much. Finally, you reached your front door and slammed your body against it. With a shove, you opened the door and then pulled Liu Kang inside with you. He was frigid.

What had happened to him? He was soaked from the snow but so were you and you’d only been out there for a minute. There was no feeling left in your hands. He had to be miserable. You urged him further into your house and let him rest on the floor in front of your couch. His head lopped back onto the cushions. He was too cold, dangerously cold. If you left him, you didn’t think he’d recover.

“Fire,” he muttered.

“No, no… if I warm you too fast then it could… it’s dangerous.” You knew enough about hypothermia to know that it could shock his heart if he warmed up too quickly. So kicking off your boots and your socks, shoving your gloves and jacket into a pile, you then retrieved the blankets that were piled up on the couch and the floor around it. Liu’s eyes were closed and you were in panic mode.

Draping a towel over his shoulders you realized that his clothing was soaked with snow. They were practically frozen and the cold would only do more damage.

“Your clothes are drenched.” You untied his shirt and pulled it off with nimble, panicked fingers. It was no easy task as stiff and frozen as he was. He was unresponsive.” Oh, please don’t die…” Tugging on his pants, you contemplated how you were going to lift his heavy body and pull but he grabbed your wrist with a sudden snap though he winced as if the action had pained him. Well this was awkward. And not exactly the way you were accustomed to removing a man’s trousers.

“The clothes are making it worse. Hold on, I’ll cover you up.” You grabbed the towel and draped it over his lap. He released your wrist and gave you a short nod. At least he was conscious enough not to object to that. You went to work removing his trousers and underthings, focusing on the importance of the action rather than the action itself. And you were definitely not thinking about how cute he was.

Sort of.

He was frozen.

You had to help him.

Once that was done, you threw the clothing aside. He was left now only with the towel. You helped him sit up and away from the couch. Then you draped a blanket around his shoulders. Just getting the wet clothing off of him had helped but he was still far too cold. His lips were practically blue. You continued to cover him with blankets and crouched in front of him, using a towel to dry his hair. He was still too cold.

“Body heat,” he croaked. It had startled you. His voice was soft and scratchy, as if he’d been through an ordeal. For all you knew, he had been. “You were right. Not too quick.”

Shit.

Looking down at yourself, you winced. You were soaked and frigid but still far warmer than he was.

“Okay.” You could do this. “Okay.” You repeated. Grabbing one of the blankets, you draped it over your shoulders then pulled off your shirt and tossed it aside and wiggled out of your pants. The rest would stay on. He was right. Your body heat would help warm him and be less shocking than a fire would be. He leaned away from the couch on his own and hunched forward. You pulled the blankets and towels away except for the one that kept him modest.

No overthinking. Only action.

You climbed into his lap and slipped the blanket covering you around his shoulders too and let your body rest against his. The startling cold of his body made you inhale sharply. You could feel his chest pressed to yours, his heart hammering through his chest. Then you set about urging the rest of the blankets and towels around him. Once covered up, you urged your hands over his arms and then up over the side of his neck.

It was less awkward almost immediately.

You urged him to lean back against the couch again and leaned against him. Finally, at long last, he was shivering. At least his body was fighting the cold. And he’d opened his eyes. They were fixated on you. You went back to drying his hair.

Maybe you could keep his mind off of the pain he was surely feeling as his body warmed up. You were both going to end up with the flu. You were sure of it.

“Your name is Liu Kang, right?”

He nodded after a long time spent lost in thought, like his brain was frozen too. “That’s a nice name.” You whispered and thought you saw the slightest flicker of a smile but it faded quickly. Taking his hands, you tried to warm them with your breath, holding them close to your chest. Soon they weren’t terribly frozen anymore. He was lucky you’d seen him. You talked about the storm, about nothing, about the work you had to do on the house to keep his mind busy.

Time past agonizingly slow as you warmed him.

Finally, he leaned against you and his arms wrapped around your small frame, strong hands on your bare skin. It was startlingly cold. And to be held this way by someone who was nearly a complete stranger was novel too. Even so, it was comforting. This experience had built a bond between you.

Now your heart was the one racing.

“Thank you,” he whispered in your ear. It took every ounce of self-control not to shiver from his deep, soothing voice.

“You’re going to be okay.”

He seemed to be out of the woods even if he was out of it. You were trembling in his arms. The whole thing had been scary. You set about focusing on warming him again, hands creating friction over his skin to build heat. He was fixated on you, as if fascinated by you. The wind howled; the storm rattled your tiny home.

“I can try to get the fire going and set your clothes to dry. Maybe make you some tea…” You decided it was time to pull back. He was out of the woods. Blankets would do the job just fine. Much to your surprise, he urged his arms around you more securely and pulled you tighter in his lap. Your tongue was suddenly far too big for your mouth.

“Not yet.” He managed. Now that he wasn’t as pale or blue, his lips were a brilliant red. “Just a moment longer. Please.” His soft voice was so sincere that you couldn’t possibly argue with him.

“Of course, Liu.” You somehow spoke confidently even though your insides were absolutely reeling. With his strong arms holding you, you decided to embrace what it was. He needed comfort and you would happily provide it. Letting your head rest on his shoulder you were sure that your warm breath against his neck had to be a comfort. He shivered. There was something satisfying knowing it was because of you. You could feel the heat in your cheeks.

Time was no longer moving agonizingly slow. You held each other in the dim light of your home while the blizzard raged outside. You could have fallen asleep there in the arms of a complete stranger.

“Y/N, right?” He broke the silence, voice no longer scratchy but soft and familiar.

Lifting your head from his shoulder, you found his dark eyes fixed on you and filled with admiration and recognition. You fought the blush that was rushing to your face.

“You remembered?” You couldn’t help but smile. He leaned a little closer as if to better hear you. You were glad to be sitting because that gaze made you feel weak.

“A pretty name for a pretty girl.” He was smiling and it was both charming and kind.

“I… uh…”

“I apologize, Y/N. For being so forward. I’m not… I’m not thinking clearly.” He closed his eyes tight as if speaking had pained him. You melted further. He was holding you, naked, you practically naked, and was still somehow charming and sweet.

“No, no it’s okay. I’m flattered.” You laughed which seemed to relieve him.

“I know that it’s probably too much to ask but perhaps… you’ll stay here. Let me hold you until I fall asleep?” His hand brushed again over your back, a careful and cautious but confident touch. He was still far colder than you were. It would take time for him to recover.

“Of course, Liu.” You couldn’t deny such a sweet request. He rested back against the couch again. Urging your head to his shoulder, you decided to wait until he fell asleep. Then you’d get up and set his clothing to dry and fight with the fireplace again.

Instead, you fell asleep in the arms of the man you saved.

Kung Lao opens the door, just enough to see inside, and he nearly drops the food in surprise when he sees you

but you look different, a heavy set of antlers sit on your head and a long tail lays behind you as you stretch out along the mattress

your skin is smattered in scales, but that’s not what makes his mouth dry and his cock harden in his pants
