The day was a blur in the morning Eva didn't leave Wanda's room at all, someone brought them breakfast, tea and snacks as the day went on. Makeup artists and hair stylists were in and out of the rooms all day. There were 5 small stacked boxes on the table for when she knew Loki would do something for the girls. And as if on queue there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Yelled Nat.
"MJ"
Nat opened the door, "what's up kiddo?"
"Tony asked me to bring these boxes to you, he said there is one for each of you and they're labeled, but they are from Loki."
"Thanks, oh can you do me a favor?"
"Sure"
"Give these to Tony tell him the same thing you just told me but they're from Eva."
"You bet"
"Thanks" Nat called out down the hall.
"How did you know?"
"Because I know Loki that well." Eva laughed.
"So give here I want to see what that trickster has been up to."
Nat handed out the boxes and they all set to opening them. Wanda was the first to gasp. Nestled in the box was a golden key pendant with a Ruby nestled into the top. Also were a pair of matching earrings. Nat's was the same with Garnets. Pepper had Topaz. Eva was surprised with a sculpted necklace consisting of intricate vine work with Emeralds on the leaves and blue topaz on the flowers. Her earrings matched hanging style with the same vines and flowers. She opened the note inside
My Dearest,
You know I'd find a way to have green included in this wedding.
My love always
Loki
Tumblr media
Opening the door Tony was met with Peter. "Kid, I thought I asked you to give those to the girls."
"MJ did Mr. Stark, these are from Eva." He said handing over the boxes.
"Thanks, and thank MJ for delivering the other boxes."
Closing the door after Peter walked down the hall Tony turned to the boys who were all longing around in their pants and shirts. All doing their best to keep Loki calm. "So, apparently your wife, was prepared for the jewelry, she sent these back for us." Tony said sitting down after handing out the boxes. Unwrapping and opening the hinged box Tony laughed to himself smiling he turned the box around showing the cuff links and announced "Arc Reactor, Blue Topaz; Iron Man Mask,Topaz" one by one they opened their boxes.
Stephen was next "Seal of the Vishanti, Blue Topaz; Eye of Agamotto, Emerald."
Thor followed "Lightning Bolt,  Blue Topaz; Stormbreaker, Diamond."
Next was Clint "Bow and Arrows, Blue Topaz; my new Hawkeye logo, Amethyst."
Finally Loki opened his box grinning "My Beloved Horns, Emerald; Her wings, Blue Topaz." Picking up the piece of paper he had set aside, he began to read it aloud
My Love,
Just incase you thought I wouldn't have any green in this wedding...oh and if you all could coordinate the one with the Blue Topaz on the right wrist I would be very happy.
Love you more
Eva
Tony helped Loki with the cuff links, and Stephen assisted Thor.
"How are you doing Loki?" Asked Tony
"Nervous, I dare say I'm more nervous now than on Asgard. How long until I can see her?"
"About an hour and a half."
"Ugh, I need a Distraction..."
Almost as if on queue, the door opened and an army of photographers came in the room.
"Ask, and ye shall receive." Smiled Tony.
The group set to taking posed and candid photos. They recreated putting on the cuff links, and Tony helping Loki get ready. Even though there was no official best man, Loki found Tony sliding into the role, and it made him smile. Never did he think Tony would ever say a nice word about him, much less be a part of his wedding.
The photographers were also in the room with Eva. The stylists were working on her hair, pictures being snapped from multiple locations. Wanda came over, "so, you have just enough time to get your dress on to go meet your man at your spot. Are you ready?" Eva nodded and Wanda wisked her to the adjoining room to put her dress on.
"Wow it's staring to feel so real now." A tear escaped her eye. When they walked in the door everyone was quiet, Nat and Pepper running over giving her a hug. There was a knock at the door and Tony entered the room.
"Wow, I was not expecting this..." he hugged Eva "you look breathtaking, Eva" He whispered kissing her on the cheek. "So you ready to go see your very nervous man?"
"Yes! Please I need to see him, I'm going insane."
It was then she took a good look at Tony. "Oh Gods the suit is amazing, Ralph outdid himself."
Tony stepped back and did some posing to show off the suit. "It's subtle but not.. are you all like this?"
"All except for Loki, his is different, but you'll see that in a few minutes. If we're all ready then let's go he's been freaking out in a good way most of the day."
They walked through the deserted floor the sounds of Tony's dress shoes clicking against the tile as he walked arm in arm with Eva, her Asgardian Boots muffled the sound. The rest of the girls still had on slippers. At the sound of them arriving Clint, Stephen and Thor turned from the glass. A photographer snapping some candid shots of Tony and Eva and her reaction to their suits. The glint of the cuff links caught her attention, causing a smile on her lips. Each one of the guys gave her a hug and a kiss. When she got to Stephen the cloak shot over to her shoulders to give her a hug first. Then the men parted leaving a walkway for her to the door. Approaching the glass she saw Loki was distracted being the center of attention. Stephen leaned down "little one are you ready?" She nodded not trusting her voice "how about the cloak stays with you? Just for this." Wanda handed the box and letter to Eva, but the cloak took them. "Thank you" she murmured to Wanda and the cloak. On shaking legs with trembling hands she pushed the door open.

The Science of Worth (Part 2)
Tags: @vbecker10
Pairing: Loki x Y/N
Warning: Fluff and humor
Author Note: I hope you enjoy this next part!
As the great Shakespearean character Malvolio once said, “Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em…”. Though the premise of the scene was comedic and meant to show the folly in his ambitious and pretentious egotism, Eva felt as if she followed ridiculous instructions that now led her to the grandiose punchline. The punchline, you ask? Her standing before a glass wall so clear it was hard to even tell there was anything there of a building that had a very famous symbol on its side. The large A that was known worldwide…and even on an intergalactic level.
Is this really where I’m supposed to be meeting him?! There has to be a mistake! Shoving her hand into one of the back pockets of her jeans, she pulled out the folded sheet of paper that held enviably elegant handwriting penciled across it. Unlocking her phone in her other hand, she cross-checked the address she typed into her maps software and the accuracy of her GPS location. There was no denying it, the address she was sent to was none other than the Avengers compound. “This has to be some sort of joke, right? A meticulous and detailed prank?” She muttered under her breath, looking up at the pristine glass she so skillfully walked into moments ago. She rubbed her forehead as the memory of the pain resurfaced. I’m pretty sure that’s on camera somewhere…but none of that explains why I’m even here! She pursed her lips to one side and tried to think over the last couple of weeks.
Thor had come to the tiny apartment more frequently over the past two weeks than usual. He had been in contact with Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and Steve Rogers discussing the gravity of the situation that came to pass without any of them realizing. Initially, Stark and Fury were staunchly against the addition of Eva and due to the various missions that were underway the discussion was tabled for some time.
After two weeks of waiting, the four sat in one of the conference rooms at the compound. He insisted the rest of the Avengers need not be troubled with this issue, hoping to speed up the process and reduce the risk of others voting against him. The one Avenger he knew would be on his side was Captain America. His sense of duty and justice were one of the many great qualities that would work in his favor.
“Listen, Thor, I don’t know who things work up in Asgard, but this isn’t some charity place where we pick up strays from the street. She’s human, she’s an American, she can get an apartment if she needs some place to live.” Tony bluntly spoke, popping a blueberry in his mouth as he walked around the room.
“If the situation were different, I would wholeheartedly agree with you, Stark. However, I am not asking we just take in anyone. She is someone we must assist.” Thor insisted.
“You keep saying that, and yet I don’t exactly see why. Enlighten us,” Fury leaned back into his seat with his eye trained on the god of thunder. “Why is this person any more important than the rest?”
“Excellent point, why do we need to babysit some snotty college brat?” Tony snapped his fingers and pointed at Fury. “Tell us all about it, Goldilocks.”
“As I have said, she is now in danger because of our poor insight.” The Asgardian prince rolled his at his comrade’s incessant need to use such ridiculous nicknames. “When my brother was fully cleansed from the corruption of the Mind Stone, I came to you all asking for asylum on his behalf. He is no longer allowed back on Asgard unless he wishes to be locked away in our dungeons once again. The consensus was that he should reside within reasonable distance from our compound and be monitored by me because there was still uncertainty of his character. I found a place for him to stay from this fascinating site of Craig’s that listed many things. The fees of his living were approved by S.H.I.E.L.D. and I was tasked with routine visits to make sure he was not doing anything underhanded in secret. As you saw, he has proven to be completely free of the Mind Stone and has been living silently within the city.”
“Yeah, and now we want to have him work as part of the Avengers. I don’t see the issue.” Tony raised an eyebrow in question as to why Thor needed to repeat all this known information.
“Yes, he has to leave the apartment he lives in to come here. However, he does not reside alone in that place. Eva lives with him and she was the one who asked Craig for his assistance in finding someone to share the financial burden of housing.” He continued to explain, undaunted by Tony’s mannerisms. “As we all and many others know, Loki is my brother.” He paused, looking at Fury, Tony, and Steve. “I am a known member of the Avengers.” He paused again and looked at each of the men in the room. “I have been seen coming and going from there on many occasions. We have many enemies who are not above using whatever means necessary to try to get at us…including abducting and harming someone they think is important to us.”
“Which now means she has a big target on her back, telling them to try to use her to get to us.” Steve sighed, tapping his fingers against the glass table. “This is trouble. We can’t just leave her now that we’ve given this impression that she’s someone important to us.”
“Dammit, I knew that was going to come and bite me in the ass later! I shouldn’t have said yes, and I shouldn’t have told you about Craig’s list.” Tony clicked his tongue and scoffed in annoyance, turning his back to the group as he paced a little faster.
“Looks like we’ve gotten her in a whole heap of trouble.” Fury muttered, frowning at the logic that was laid out before him. “She’s not some spy?”
“No, she’s not some spy.” Thor quickly assured him. “In fact, she would be more useful to us because she is very capable of controlling my brother! I was certainly surprised to see just how well she is on many occasions! Also, he has been unwilling to move and has given little on the reasoning of why. I’m very certain it is because he has come to like Eva and feels responsible for her safety.”
“So what, she’s his pet?”
“Or his friend. I doubt it’s that unreasonable of an opinion, Tony.” Steve interjected and Tony rolled his eyes.
“Well, whatever his weird fantasies are, she’s now our problem. I guess he can bring his pet with him.” He reluctantly agreed, Fury nodding his head in agreement.
“We’re now responsible, but that doesn’t mean she can just do whatever she pleases. If she makes trouble, she’s out, understood?” He made sure to make eye contact with all three of the men in the room. “I’m not playing games and this isn’t some babysitting service. Understood,” he made sure they all responded to him before standing up from his seat. “Good, then you can tell Loki she’s allowed to move in here with him. Meeting adjourned.” He walked out of the room and soon the rest of them followed after. Thor, elated at how the tides changed to his favor, ran to give Loki the good news. Sadly, Y/N was not present at the time due to her work, so he left it to Loki to inform her of the upcoming changes. Which now led to the current predicament of said Midgardian who knew nothing of what was going on, all thanks to a certain deity with a penchant for mischief.
She paced back and forth to and from the front door, the doors opening with an audible whoosh of air when she mustered up the courage to step into the sensor, only to doubt and turn away to leave. Chewing on her lower lip, she tugged at her clothes and hair to help expel the excess energy that currently bubbled up inside her. Did she dare enter the Avenger’s Compound? What business did she even have here? Wait, she topped mid-step, her right foot held in the air. I’m currently living with Loki, the brother of Thor, an avenger. I was suddenly given this address and told to come here. Does that mean something happened? To Thor? Was this for Loki? No, it had my name on it. Did something happen to Loki?! She turned as a surge of worry took over her body, she walked straight into the cool lobby.
The glass doors silently slid closed behind her while her sneakers squeaked against the large polished tiled floors. The entire building gave state-of-the-art modern vibes with some minimalism from the chrome, white, and silver color scheme to the lighting that was part of the back wall behind the long reception desk. There were two people stationed at the front, standing and staring at her.
“Well, I’m certainly not in Kansas anymore.” She muttered the words aloud, trying to calm her nerves to build up the courage to try to find out what or who led her here.
“Kansas, why would you think you’re in Kansas?” A familiar voice caught her attention and she quickly turned towards the speaker.

Grabbing a water for himself Loki brought Eva an iced tea and sat next to her. Tony and pepper were on another couch, with Stephen, Wanda, Thor and Nat scattered around them.
"Ok so here's what I know... our wedding song is still "Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. I'd like our entrance song to be Hero by David Bowie..." started Eva. "Or Holding out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler..."
"I need to hear it again... is everyone ok with that?.. they all nodded "FRIDAY play Heros by David Bowie. After play Holding out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler" Loki nodded to her "yes, I did like this one. Isn’t that the one you were singing on Jotunheim? I think I like the more upbeat one though, so I'd say Holding out for a Hero should be the entrance song."
"Come on no AC/DC?" Asked Tony, Pepper rolled her eyes.
"No." Eva and Loki responded.
"I'd like to do a dance with all three of my brothers, and then individual dances as well, the one with Stephen to double as my 'Father Daughter dance'. With all three I’d like to use Stand by Me the Bill Withers version." The three nodded. "Have you guys decided on what songs you want?"
"I was hoping you'd be ok with a classic The Way You Look Tonight, the Sinatra version." Said Stephen quietly. As the song started playing Eva smiled and took Stephen's outstretched hand. He began twirling her around the common room. Loki watched smiling at them. "The choice is perfect Stephen" he said.
Thor was next to speak "I had a lot of help as you can imagine not just Eva, but Nat, Pepper and Wanda gave me songs to listen to.  I have picked Dream On by Aerosmith." Stephen handed Eva off to Thor who swayed slowly engulfing her with his large stature. "Brother, a very nice sentiment I like this song also. So that leaves... you Tony. What song have you chosen?"
"Yeah, so I had trouble with this... I needed Pepper to help me, I'll have you all know I have a permanent bruise on my left arm where she punched me repeatedly while saying No Tony. In the end I... well we decided to go with Heaven by Warrant. I hope it's ok." Eva was now being passed off to Tony, when they finished Loki saw the glint of a tear in her eyes and walked over to her "are you ok Love?"
"Yeah, just super emotional you know, thanks to everyone for helping to make this happen. I'm going to be a sobbing mess tomorrow at the final fitting, you guys realize there's less than a week until the wedding? It's crazy how fast this has progressed." She hid her face in Loki's shoulder while she composed herself.
Stephen rubbed her back and told her he needed to get back to the sanctum. Kissing her cheek and giving her a light hug the left through a portal. Tony looked up, "Loki, what song do you want to dance with your Mother to? And do any of you have any songs you must have but not for a specific dance?"
"My Mother's Eyes, Frankie Valli"
"That's so sweet, I think I'm going to cry."
"Pips, are you ok? You're really emotional recently."
"Yeah, like I said just excited about the wedding. Oh and make sure there's Bad to the Bone, and Bad Reputation, and try to keep it 80's.... Oooo Green Day, there must be Green Day. You know what we like and what everyone else will want to hear, so mix in some of that too, look Tony I trust you... to listen to Pepper when making the list for the DJ." Turning to Loki "Love, I found a great idea I'd like to do on our day."
"What is it?"
"There's this new concept of First Look, before the ceremony we would meet on say the helipad, to see the other, it helps with the nerves. Also I think it would be great to do our gifts for each other there. What do you say?"
"That sounds great, I think we should do that."
"So Thor, please send Stephen down to get me about two hours before the ceremony. So Loki and I can have our first look at each other."
"Sister, I would be honored." They finished up all remaining details of the wedding day. Eva and Loki bid the rest good night and they went back to their room.
"Darling, are you sure you're OK? You've been having really wild mood swings lately. I just worry for you." He asked while taking off his shirt and handing it to her.
"Loka, I'm sure, just lots going on with the wedding, picking up the dresses tomorrow, and the rehearsal the night after. Sorry my mind is racing and when I take a few minutes to take it all in all the emotions hit me at once, I promise it will all change after the wedding." She took the shirt and got ready for bed. Crawling into bed next to his sapphire body and curled up on his side with his arm wrapped around her. Resting her head in the crook of his arm she kissed him.
"What was that for?" He asked putting his book down.
"For putting up with me being moody. I love you Lokabrenna, you are my sun, moon and stars."
"I don't think I need to be thanked for being there for you, as I said I just worry. Are you going to use the photostatic veil for the wedding?"
"I was only planning on using it when I need to be somewhere professional like picking up the dresses, otherwise I'd rather be me, Jotun and Mutant, I hope that's ok? I was thinking to take some of the pictures with it on, but most without."
"It's perfect Love, whatever makes you happy is fine with me. I was thinking to do the Jotun reveal with the sword ceremony same as on Asgard, that should help ease the rest of our guests who don't see us regularly."
"Gods are you sure you're real? You're too perfect to want the likes of me. Please tell me that we will always be together and able to overcome any problems we may have? I just love you so much, losing you in any way would kill me."
"I'm pretty sure I'm real.." he laughed "and I'll remind you when ever you need it that we will be together for as long as we live. I love you more than life Eva, this is forever and I couldn't be more happy." Kissing her forehead he smiled against her skin.

Impossibly Redeemable - 26 - Fortune Car
Summary: Shortly after faking his death in Svartalfheim to fool Thor, Loki wakes up to find himself in a  realm that is not the one he “died” in. After meeting another person in  a similar predicament, he learns the only way home is through  redemption. But how can he possibly do that? Monsters like him don’t deserve redemption, do they?
Pairing: Loki x F!Reader
Word Count: 1,096
Disclaimers/Warnings: Dark, creepy atmosphere. Spookums... Kind of.
A/N: This is one a bit short. It’s more of an interlude to the coming chapters. Now that I have a handful of them planned out, I feel like I can get through these chapters a bit faster. Let's see how this goes! :D

Loki swept Eva up into his arms and pulled you close as the door slammed shut. It stole what little light had existed in this car. Even a god’s eyes could not penetrate this kind of suffocating darkness.
None of you could muster the courage to speak. It was as if your voices had been taken with the light. All you could do was listen, and there was nothing. Even the sounds of breathing seemed stifled, muffled even, like a cloth bag had been placed over your heads. Loki focused everything on his own hearing, hoping to catch something, anything that might lead them to the exit.
And then… Rustling.
A ragged groan followed by phlegm-riddled breaths.
Eva’s arms coiled around Loki’s neck, face burying in his neck. Your fingers clutched so tightly to his tunic he thought for a split second you might shred the fabric.
“Show yourself!”
Loki surprised himself when he growled out his demand. It shocked him more when its recipient complied.
Candles of various sizes burst to life, encircling your company in warm light. One lit after the other as if to lead your eyes. A distraction, perhaps?
The god focused straight ahead to where he heard the sounds before. With each new flame, he could see more of a hunched, shadowed figure. It stood, fabrics billowing down its form. Its silhouette stretched long and thin, taller than Loki. A pair of arms reached out and back to tame the wiry hair that seemed to reach out to the light. Another pair adjusted the remaining fabric still clinging to its form.
The trail of candles finally made its way to the being. Even the golden hues reflected off its skin were not enough to give the grayed, wrinkled leather the essence of life. Although, it did highlight the starry night blue robes laden with golden accents. The outline of what looked like a rounded snout turned in your direction, and fire danced in the creature’s nuumite eyes. Its second set of hands settled on its back.
Pop!
They groaned, exorcising a cough in the process.
“It’s about time you showed up,” they exclaimed, gravel still stuck in their throat. “Excuse the poor reception. I fell asleep waiting.”
“Waiting?” Loki’s grip on you and Eva tightened. “For us?”
“Are you daft, boyo? Of course, I have! Who else would I be waiting for?” they spat.
The god sputtered in response, shoving the words on his tongue back into a locked chest. He wouldn’t risk angering this creature when he still didn’t know what they could do.
“Yes, yes. ‘I beg your pardon!’ You are a god and should be treated as such,” they mockingly continued for him. “Now come along! I haven’t got all day.”
“For wha—”
“Have you not put together the clues yet, boyo? Silver tongue is sharp, but the mind is dull.”
They shuffled around to a clearing in the candle. With a wave of their arms, a large table appeared, draped in indigo velvet. A deck of cards were lazily spread out next to a clear crystal ball.
“Now get over here before I change my mind. I took time out of my schedule for this. Don’t make it a waste of my time.”
Loki’s jaw fell slack. This creature (person?) knew who he was and had the gall—
“What did I just say? Enough lallygagging! Trickster god, little chemist, child of the train. I suggest you get your legs working again!”
Pride bubbled and boiled in his chest. It was threatening to boil over when your hand grazed his cheek, redirecting his attention.
“Loki,” you coaxed, “I think we should do as she says.”
Eva still clung to him tightly, but her face wasn’t completely concealed in the crook of his neck anymore. It peered out fearfully but with an air of curiosity. Your free hand found his on your waist and entangled them with an encouraging squeeze.
“You might want to listen to your partner, boyo.”
A grimace settled on Loki’s face. With a sigh lingering in his lungs, his shoulders drooped and eyes softened.
“And what say you, little dove?” he consulted Eva.
Her head lifted as she surveyed the seer with scrutiny. Her decision didn’t take long.
“Yeah.” She nodded. “I think… I think she has something important for us.”
The seer cleared their throat, more for attention than anything. There wasn’t anything in all the realms that would dislodge the voice-degrading phlegm for them to speak smoothly.
“Excellent. Now that everyone is in agreement… Come over here and sit down!”
Tumblr media
Eva squirmed in her seat that was designed more for the quick fortune telling than comfort. You managed to sit still, but your narrowed eyes were evidence of just how sore you truly were. Loki was feeling telltale pinpricks in his feet. He was about to conjure cushions for the three of you when the seer finally finished shuffling their oracle deck and laid down the first card.
Cracked mirror.
“Mmm, yes. Already knew this one. Traumatic pasts. Next.”
Glowing rose quartz.
“Current state: True love, friendship, family.” They up glance up at your tense forms. “Also obvious.”
Broken bridge over a river.
“Hmm… Interesting. An event will come to pass that will cause a rift.”
Loki glared hard at the card.
Hummingbird hovering.
“Quite soon, actually.”
Your hand met his under the table.
Unbalanced scales weighing a heart.
“When things are laid bare.”
Dark forest with a thin crescent moon.
“The results of this event are… unclear.”
Loki’s brow knit together.
“Unclear?” you responded.
The seer nodded. Their secondary left hand hovered over the crystal ball. Dark, foggy clouds rose and swirled inside.
“Hidden even… Perhaps the Conductor’s doing…” they mumbled so softly that even Loki had trouble picking it up.
Silence swelled in the room with only the faint interruption of the candles flickering.
Your other hand came to rest upon both yours and Loki’s that were joined. The god nearly jumped out of his skin. Your eyes were alit with worry… And more pain? He looked down at your hands and loosened his grip that he had unknowingly tightened. Your fingers flexed in an attempt to soothe the irritated tingling.
Eva reached over for his free hand. It will be okay.
Loki was forcing a deep breath through his nostrils when the door appeared adjacent to the seer.
“It seems our session has come to an end,” they spoke. “I wish you all the best of luck.” They turned to face the door, brow furrowed. “You’re going to need it.”

Eva
Eva x Loki @khaleesi-marvel
i hope you like this one angel!!
Tumblr media
Eva was the only other person in all the realms to match Loki’s quick wit and cold stare with her own warmth and kind words. And by all the Gods did it annoy him.
No matter how hard Loki tried to get under her skin or stagger her positive attitude, Eva bounced back with a sweet smile that melted even his cold heart.
“What are you up to now, Loki?” Eva questioned, interrupting his quiet reading.
“Nothing to concern yourself over.” He whispered back, not even for a moment looking up from his book.
Eva simply shrugged, settling on the couch he sat. She slumped into the seat, causing his own to push up. It disrupted his position, making him have to readjust back to a comfortable sitting.
“You busy, Trickster?” Eva asked. She was leaning over herself, trying to crane a neck over Loki’s shoulder to catch a few sentences of his book.
With a quick slam, he shut the book and settled it down.
“Why would you like to know? Care to spend more time with me?” Loki tried once more, teasing at the girl in an attempt to make her uncomfortable.
“Oh, I didn’t even tell you why yet, and here you are assuming I wanna spend time with you. Maybe you wanna spend time with me? Is that it, Loki?” Eva spoke back, a smile ever growing on her lips with each word. She stayed leaning close, only inches away from Loki’s face.
Loki bit the inside of his cheek, attempting the best he could to keep a poker face. His efforts were poor, making Eva only smile wider at his struggle.
“It’s movie night with the rest of the gang, why don’t you come with us?” Eva settled back just an inch, giving room for her question to fill the air.
Loki stared for a moment questioning why after the interaction she would still want to invite Loki to the Avenger’s movie night. The weekly ritual went on long before his arrival, and yet no one ever considered to ask if he wanted to join. It didn’t bother him so much, he would rather spend the few hours relishing in the peace and quiet. This kind of silence came rarely amongst the others.
“Spending two hours in a dark room with the rest of the hooligans listening to explosions the entire time does not sound as appealing as you make it seem.” Loki bit back, finding himself filling the inch Eva took away.
“You’ll be in a dark room with me listening to explosions for two hours.” Eva whispered.
Loki paused, his heart spiking for a single beat. He looked over her, noticing the contrast of Eva’s dark hair against pale skin. It brought up the light sprinkle of blush on her cheeks as she waited for an answer. She blinked at him, causing the batting of her lashes to make his breathing hitch for a moment. He had noticed her beauty before, definitely, but the way she sat now, only a breath away. It made him shiver.
“What makes you think I’d go for you?” Loki asks, barely audible for even himself.
“Because I would go for you.” Eva spoke.
It made Loki’s lip twitch upward, a simple sentence that brought a spark through his body. A simple invitation to a movie making him feel like a child in love. The way Eva spoke to him, no hatred or fear to be found. It was new, and it made him feel wonderful.
“Okay, Eva.” He agreed.
She gave a toothy smile, leaning in quickly before Loki could react.
She planted a loud smack of a kiss on his cheek before rolling off the couch onto her feet.
“Get in your pjs and meet us downstairs, we’re watching Mission Impossible.” Eva spoke over her shoulder, making sure to leave his eyes following. That, he did. Loki watched as she walked away, presumably to her own room to get ready.
Loki could hear her door close and nothing else, merely stuck in his own position to feel the sensation of Eva’s lips against his cheek over and over again. It was sweet, innocent, and held a hint of warm love within. Loki brought his fingertips to the spot, as if marking where the two of them connected. He wanted that feeling back, to go to her room and finish what she started. But his legs were jelly, leaving him sitting on the couch for moments longer.
“Loki? What are you doing up here, it’s movie night. Eva said she would invite you.” The boisterous voice of his brother broke his thoughts, making him turn to look up at the thunder god with a dumbstruck expression. Thor held an unpopped bag of popcorn, presumably up here to heat it up in the microwave for the rest of the Avengers.
Loki said nothing, only smiling more to himself than his brother.
“Oh, she did alright.” Loki said, only confusing his brother further.

The Course Of True Love
Tumblr media
Relationship: Loki Odinson x Original Female Character
Summary: Loki Odinson never expected to see his mother hurrying down a hall with a smart-mouthed, soot-covered figure who was supposedly the princess of Vanaheim. He never expected her to stay more than a week, much less an entire century, and he surely did not expect their initial animosity to morph into the fluttering, tickling feeling he got in his stomach every time she was near.
Word Count: 4.8k
A/N: So, this is the penultimate chapter! I'll save the tears for my last A/N. I'm halfway done the last chapter and it will be out ASAP.
Warnings: Smut, 18+, loss of virginity, fingering (female receiving), oral (female receiving), unprotected sex, cursing, inappropriate language, blood.

CHAPTER 25
The chair broke with a loud, splintering noise. Gri let out a sharp gasp. Taking advantage of her surprise, Sigrid scrambled out of her binds and grabbed a leg of the chair. She braced a foot on the seat and pulled until the wood came apart in her hands. The leg was round, sharp at one end. Now she had a weapon.
“Sigrid—”
“Back up!” She wielded the leg at her. “Back up!”
Gri held up her hands in surrender. “I—”
“Tell me where Leif is! Now!”
“He’s in the stables,” Gri answered with a sick smile. “I made Bjorn take him to the stables.”
Sigrid looked around. She spotted the rope on the ground and pointed to it. “Pick that up.” Wide eyed, Gri did as she was told. “Tie your hands together.”
Gri bent down to retrieve the rope. She began winding the frayed ends around her wrists while Sigrid watched her. Over and under, she looped the rope around her wrists until a knot was formed. She presented them to Sigrid with a glare. “Here.”
“Tug on them. Try to pull your wrists apart.” Sigrid leveled the weapon at Gri’s chest. “I don’t trust you, you murderous bitch. You could have tied them loosely. Now tug.” Gri did as she was told, pulling and tugging her wrists in opposite directions until Sigrid was satisfied they would hold.
“Happy?” Gri taunted.
“Not in the slightest. Now walk.” She pushed the woman’s shoulder with the tip of the leg until she turned around. “You’re going to take me to the stables and you’re going to get Bjorn to let Leif go.”
“This is a bit of an overreaction,” Gri said, once they had been walking for a while. “We can talk this out. I—” Another jab of the wood had her falling silent.
“Shut up,” Sigrid hissed. “Shut your mouth!”
“Your mother would not have wanted this.”
Sigrid halted in her tracks. Her hand shot out to grab a fistful of Gri’s hair, twisting the woman’s head so she could meet her spring green eyes. “My mother,” she began, trembling with the effort to not bite her ear off, “would have wanted to live. She would have wanted to be around and see me grow up. She deserved to be here today, to guide me, raise me, help me navigate life. Because of you, that’s gone. Because of you, I do not have a mother.”
Sigrid wrung the blonde hair tighter. “I won’t let you get away with this. Once I find Leif, and my father returns, he will hear of your treachery. I will tell him what you have done and—”
“And what?” There was challenge in Gri’s tone. “You’ll send me to the dungeons for the rest of my life?”
“I will have your head.” Finality dripped off of her every word. “If it were up to me, I would have you drawn and quartered in the square. You are lucky Eva and I have turned a new leaf. I am not so cruel to make her mother meet such a gruesome end, but you are not above the laws of Vanaheim. Regicide calls for your head, and your head I shall have.” She released her grip with a clench of her teeth, fingers aching from the strength of the hold.
Gri met her unwavering stare with a shaky breath. For the first time, Sigrid saw real fear in the woman’s eyes. “You never would have met Loki had your mother been alive.” Sigrid gaped.
“What did you say?”
“I said you never would have met Loki had your mother still been alive. You would have married Leif instead, and probably been on your third child by now. Loki would not be betrothed, obviously, because no one else can tame him but you. He—Uh!”
The smack that filled the air when her hand connected with Gri’s cheek was satisfying, as was the way her head whipped to the side. A red mark in the shape of Sigrid’s hand appeared on the white cheek, and she smirked. “Speak again and the next one will be with the wood. Walk.”
The rest of the walk was quiet. Gri stumbled along with a hand held to her cheek, sniffling intermittently. Sigrid must have hit her harder than she thought. She kept the sharp point of the chair leg pressed between Gri’s shoulder blades. It kept the woman on edge, which was not necessary but helped to curb her need for vengeance at the moment. If it weren’t for that, she would be beating Gri’s head into the side of the wall.
“Where is Eva?” Sigrid asked suddenly. “What did you do with her?”
“My daughter is in the throne room. I’ve given her something to help her sleep.” Gri’s lip curled. “She awoke before I expected and was in hysterics when she saw Leif’s bleeding body. The rest will do her good, and I will explain everything to her later.”
“Later?” Sigrid let out a sharp, short laugh. “Gri, you’re never getting to see Eva again. You’re dangerous. You let someone knock her out and now you’ve what? Sedated her against her will?” Sigrid shook her head. “I won’t let you near my sister.”
Gri spun around. “Sister?” Sigrid tapped the wood against her chest. Still, Gri surged forward. “Now she’s your sister? Just a week or so ago you were admonishing her in front of everyone at the dinner table. You would have me believe you are friends now?”
“We have an understanding, no thanks to you,” Sigrid spat. “Eva and I have both been wronged, lied to and used by the figures that were supposed to protect us. That will happen no longer.”
“Who’s going to make sure of that? You.” Gri’s lips curled away from her teeth. “You couldn’t even keep your man! How do you expect to maintain such a weak relationship?”
Sigrid pushed the tip deep into Gri’s chest. The woman gasped as blood bloomed along the white material of her bodice. “Silence,” she commanded. “I grow weary of your tongue. Walk, before I cut it out.” It was then that she saw it; adart of Gri’s eyes to the side— quick, barely noticeable— but Sigrid caught it. “Do not—” Gri took off running.
ooOOoo
There was a hush over the palace when the Asgardian party showed up. The light and noise from the Bifrost faded into the still night, leaving Loki to peer out into the quiet. His eye twitched. Baby hairs on the back of his neck rose. “This is not right. It is too silent.”
“I agree,” whispered Fandral. He had his sword out, free hand twirling his blond mustache.
“Where are the guards?” Sif’s voice was hushed.
“I do not know.” A hand found his shoulder—Thor— and Loki turned his eyes to him. “The king’s carriage is not here. Thor, I fear something has happened.”
“We will find her.” He turned to the crew before him. “Spread out. There is much ground to cover. Yell if anything happens and we shall converge.”
“Be on the lookout for Ingrid, Eva and Leif,” Loki added. “There is also a young guard from back home here. His name is Magne.”
Loki started in the direction of Sigrid’s room. He did not wait for any of them to respond. Fjor went with him, sword drawn and low, and he felt comfort in the familiar setting. Though once lovers, Fjor and Loki had no issue going into together battle if need be. It was understood that battle was dangerous and people died, and both of them knew the risks. Still, they chose to fight side by side.
On the contrary, Loki could never let Sigrid do the same. The issue was not her. He was confident in her abilities to look after herself. The issue was him. His nerves would never settle knowing she was in harm’s way. He would be too worried about her, and that would get him hurt. Even now as he made the walk to her room, every hair on his body was at attention. His mind was moving a mile a minute and he could not—would not— relax until he found her.
“Here.” The door to Sigrid’s room was already open. Loki’s heart rate quickened as he entered. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Her bed looked rumpled, like it had just been slept in, and there was a bottle of an amber liquid on the floor. There were no signs of a struggle— nothing knocked over, no blood or broken items. It looked as though she had left in a hurry and forgotten to close the door.
Except for the necklace on the floor.
Loki knelt to pick it up. There was a sticky substance on it that attached itself to his palm. He sniffed it and got the scent of something strong.
“Loki?”
He turned to Fjor, showing him the piece of jewelry. “The necklace I gave her for her birthday. She never takes it off. It must have fallen out of her grasp when she ran or—”. His mouth shut with an audible snap of his teeth. Or when she was taken.
“Where to next?” Fjor wanted to know. “Would you like to search the other rooms?” Loki shook his head.
“Yes. Specifically Eva’s and the king’s.”
“What about Ingrid? Where does she sleep?”
Loki frowned. “She might still be in the infirmary.” He rose to his feet. “If not, she’s in her chambers closer to the maid quarters. We should…Fjor?” Loki made a face when he noticed he was alone in the room. Fjor must have left while he was speaking. Rolling his eyes, he exited the room in search of the man. He found him a short distance down the hall, sword pointed at a closet door set in the wall.
“I heard a noise,” he whispered to Loki.
“It’s a broom closet, Fjor. Maybe a mop fell.” No sooner had he said that did a noise erupt from the closet. Fjor shot him a triumphant look.
“I don’t know about you,” said Fjor, reaching for the handle, “but I’ve never come across a mop that moaned.” He opened the door and both he and Loki peered inside. Loki nearly dropped his dagger. It was not a mop that had made the noise, but a very hot and heavy pair of younglings he knew well.
“What is this?” He reached out and grabbed the back of Magne’s collar, lifting him up and off his companion. Loki spied the two undone buttons with a sneer.
“M-my prince,” Magne stuttered out. “I-I was just—”
“Attempting to compromise the virtue of young Lady Ingrid? Yes, I can see that.” His eyes went to Ingrid next, who was hurriedly tying up the back of her dress. “A broom closet? Really?”
Ingrid narrowed her almond eyes at the prince. “We cannot always choose where the need overtakes us, my prince. And would you put him down?” She batted at Loki’s hands until he dropped the young guard. “What are you doing here? I thought the princess sent you away? She was just telling me—”
“Just?” Loki repeated. “When was this? Recently? When last did you see her, Ingrid?”
The red head frowned. “A few hours ago, maybe. I left when Leif came to pay a call.”
“Left where?”
“Her room.” Loki deflated. “What’s the matter? Why are you making that face?” She looked at his dagger, then at Fjor, whose sword was still drawn. “Something isthe matter. What’s going on?”
“Relax,” he told her, though his own panic was at its limits as well. “Sigrid called out to me through her necklace for help a while ago. The entire palace is empty and I cannot find her.”
“What do you mean you can’t find her? Where is she?” Ingrid’s already soprano voice rose to a screechy tone that had Loki wincing in pain.
“I don’t know.” Loki tugged on his earlobe. “I’m trying to find her, so if you would please—”
“Oh Norns! She’s dead, isn’t she?” Loki felt his heart drop. “That’s why we can’t find her! I never should have left her!”
“I’m sure she’s alive,” Fjor interjected, noting the prince’s stricken face. “There is an entire palace and its grounds left to search. We will find her, same as we found you.”
“Brother!” Thor came rushing around the corner. He drew up near Loki without so much as a glance at his entourage. “I heard screaming. Is someone hurt?”
“That was Ingrid.” He handed her off to Thor. “Take her and Magne to the meeting point, please. Where are the others?”
“Volstagg and Hogun went to search the stables, and Sif and Fandral are in the kitchen. They’re securing the staff as we speak.”
“Well, Sigrid isn’t in her room. I found the necklace,” he held it up, “but nothing looked out of the ordinary.”
Thor made a face. “And the others. Leif? Eva?”
“Nowhere to be seen,” Fjor answered. “We were going to check the rest of the rooms and head to the throne room.”
“Let me check the rooms,” Thor suggested. “You and Fjor can go ahead to the throne room. It will be faster that way. Just let me get Lady Ingrid to safety—”
“I’m staying.” Ingrid set her chin, daring anyone to challenge her. “I’m staying to help find the princess and none of you can make me go.”
Loki shared a look with his brother, then Fjor. Even Magne seemed at a loss. “Child—”
Ingrid stomped her foot. “I’m not a child, stop calling me that!”
“Ingrid,” he amended, “you must go with Thor. Sigrid is not here which means you are now solely my responsibility. I cannot have you in harm’s way.”
“But—”
“Ingrid, go,” Loki urged. “I must find Sigrid and I must keep you safe. I will see you after. Now go.”
Ingrid folded her arms, lower lip trembling dangerously. For a terrible moment, Loki assumed she was going to cry. He was a little relieved when she flung herself at him. “Come back,” she whispered, arms tight around his waist. “Find the princess and come back. You both have been through too much for it to end like this.”
“I will.” Loki patted her head. He ignored the well of emotion in his chest and removed her arms, leading her into Thor’s careful hold. “Go,” he motioned to Magne, “both of you, now. It isn’t safe here.”
He watched Thor lead the young couple down the hall.
“Loki.” Fjor placed a hand on his shoulder. “We don’t have all day. Where is the throne room?”
“Up ahead.” He began a steady walk up the hall, Fjor at his heels. Loki hoped with all his might that Sigrid would be in the throne room. He would search every nook and cranny of the nine realms to find her if he had too. “Do you think—”
“Stop!” The men halted in their tracks. “I said stop, you vile bitch!”
“Sigrid?” Loki spun around. “Sigrid!”
Sigrid was indeed coming down the hall, chasing behind a rather frantic looking Gri. She wore a murderous expression and held what looked like a wooden chair leg in her hand. Loki thought she was the most ethereal thing he had ever seen— like a Valkyrie charging into battle.
“Stop her!” She yelled at the men. “One of you, quickly!”
Loki’s brain seemed to have been too muddled by Sigrid’s sudden appearance to compute her command. Instead of stopping Gri, he let the woman pass him by and shot his hands out to grab Sigrid. The speed at which she collided with him sent them both tumbling to the floor.
“Sigrid.” He reached up to cup her face, curling away the lock of hair falling forward. “My darling—”
Sigrid let out a growl. “You let her get away! Why did you do that?” Her brown eyes were blown wide with exasperation.
“Sigrid, I love you!” All parties paused. Loki heard a smack in the background—presumably Fjor’s hand hitting his forehead—and Sigrid gaped above him. She seemed to be at a loss for words. “Sigrid, I love you. I am in love with you.”
“You’re telling me this now?” she screeched. “Loki, I—” She got to her feet, tugging on his green cloak. “Loki, it was her! Gri killed my mother.”
That snapped him out of his stupor. He rolled to his feet. “What? Why?”
“It’s a long story, but she has Eva and Lord Bjorn is in on it. Leif is gravely injured. I fear he might not make it.” She gripped his arm with a surprising force. “Gri said she took him to the stables. Loki—”
“Darling, it’s alright. Volstagg and Hogun went to the stables. Sif and Fandral are here, too. Thor just took our young lovers to the meeting point.” Sigrid’s entire face sagged in relief.
“Oh. Okay. That’s good.” She stumbled a bit, causing Loki to right her with a firm grip. It was then he noticed the cut on her forehead.
“Did someone hit you?” His eyes roamed over her for other signs injury, noting the bruise on her cheek and the marks on her wrists. “Who the fuck hit you? What happened to your cheek?”
“Gri tied me up and hit me.” She pointed to her head. “That was Bjorn. Slammed my head into the wall.”
“The wall?” Fjor echoed. Loki gave no verbal response. He had already let go of Sigrid and was stalking towards the throne room. Gri hit her? Bjorn slammed her head into a wall? He was going to kill them. Bjorn would not be missed, but Gri might be. The king would have to find a new bride. How unfortunate.
“Loki, wait for us!” Fjor yelled. “Wait!” Loki did not wait. He heard two pairs of footsteps struggling to catch up to his long strides and walked even faster. Nothing would get in his way now.
He reached the silver doors of the throne room in record time. His hands found the handles, slamming them open with the force of his anger. Bjorn was the first person to meet him.
“Prince Loki,” he greeted. “I suppose you’ve come for your bastard whore?”
Loki’s hand shot out faster than lightning, seizing the man’s neck and giving a squeeze. “I heard you put your hands on my Sigrid,” he growled. “Remember what I told you would happen if you did that again?”
Real fear entered the rotund man’s eyes. He struggled in Loki’s grasp, hands clawing at his fist in an attempt to escape. Behind him, Loki spied a familiar figure crumpled at the foot of the throne. She stirred suddenly, lifting her blonde head. Her foggy eyes moved around the room before settling on a something just above his left shoulder.
“Mother…?” Her eyes widened. “Loki, look out!”
Loki barely had time to turn around before the sword pierced his back.
ooOOoo
Sigrid was tired of running. Running from Bjorn, running to catch Gri, running behind Loki. It was too much. If she survived this day, she swore to never run anywhere ever again. She could not believe some people did this for leisure. The activity was daunting, zapping every last bit of her energy until she swore she would fall over.
That was until she reached the throne room and saw Gri plunge a sword into Loki’s back.
“No!” she cried out. “Loki!”
Gri removed the sword, smiling evilly at the blood coating the blade. Loki fell to his knees with a grunt. His hands covered the pouring hold in his abdomen as though that could staunch the bleeding
“Loki!” Sigrid slid on her knees to catch his body as it fell. She caught his head just before it hit the floor. “Loki? Lokes?” His blood spilled from the wound, drenching her skirts in the fluid. She pressed her hands against his abdomen to help stop the flow. “Loki, can you hear me?”
“Sig—”. He winced, showing a row of white teeth. “She stabbed me.” His eyes were wild and unfocused, darting to and fro. She wished to take his face in her hands but was too afraid to remove the pressure from the wound. “I’m bleeding.”
“You’re fine, Lokes,” she assured him through teary eyes. “You’re going to be fine.”
“I wouldn’t lie to him if I were you.” Your head snapped up to meet Gri’s sickening grin. She took a step toward you, causing Fjor to thrust his sword out in warning.
“Do not take a step closer.” His voice was thick with emotion. “You have attacked a prince of Asgard, which makes you an enemy of the state. The king will have your head.”
“And a funeral. That sword was coated with poison,” Gri stated. “I intended it for Sigrid but Loki is just always in the way, isn’t he?”
Sigrid lifted her hands off of Loki’s wound. His flesh was visible through the torn fabric and blood, injury ringed with a black substance that gave off a putrid odour. “What is it?” Sigrid demanded. “Tell me what you poisoned him with right now!”
“It’s stronger than the one I used on you for sure.” Her lip curled. “I suppose I should be thankful that little serving girl got in the way. If she survived, you might have as well.”
“Mother!” It was Eva, now recovered from the sedative. Her eyes were fresh with tears. “How could you do this? How could you try to poison Sigrid?” Bjorn held her fast before she could rise from the floor.
“For you, stupid girl,” her mother hissed. “I’ve watched you frolic with that broad-shouldered girl for years and said not a thing! You, who should be the queen. You are just as legitimate an heir as Sigrid, except without the taint. You should be queen.”
A wave of fury rippled over Eva’s face. She thrashed against her captor as she screamed at the top of her lungs. “Do not blame this on me! I have never wanted to be queen and you know that! You know it, papa knows it and I know it! All I ever wanted was to not be hidden away. You…”
Something tugged on a loose strand of Sigrid’s hair. Glancing down, she saw Loki was struggling to speak. “M-my love—”
“Shh, it’s okay. Help will be here soon.” She did not believe the words as she said it. There was no way to know if Thor would be back soon, or at all. Even Volstagg and Hogun would have their hands full with Leif in the stables.
“I must say this,” Loki insisted. “I’m sorry I took so long to tell you I loved you. It was cowardly of me to do so.”
“It’s not your fault,” Sigrid sniffled. “I could have said it too, because I do. I love you. I love you so much.”
Loki broke out into a smile. “I’m sorry I lied to you,” he whispered. “I—”. A fit of coughing interrupted his sentence. Blood from his mouth sprayed against his clothes and dribbled down his chin.
“It’s okay,” Sigrid placed her forehead against his. “It’s okay. I forgive you. I’m sorry I sent you away.” Images of him begging on his knees flashed in her mind. “The one thing I promised not to do, and I did it anyway.”
“It’s alright, my love.”
Sigrid shook her head. A tear from her eye fell onto his face, mixing with one of her own. They slid down his cheek together. “No, it’s not alright. I hurt you. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Please forgive me.” Her eyes closed. “Please.” Loki gave no answer.
“Lokes?” She opened her eyes to find him lying still, eyes closed and chest unmoving. If not for the pallor of his skin and the alarming loss of blood, she would have thought he was sleeping. “Loki?” She shook him, jostling his wound in hopes that the pain would bring him too. Still, he stayed silent. “Loki, please.” Her hands grabbed his face, leaving it printed with blood. “Loki, please open your eyes. Look at me! Loki!”
“Oh dear,” said Gri. “Is he dead?”
Sigrid lunged at her. Even Fjor could not stop her as she tackled the woman and ground her face into the rough tile.
“Bjorn, help!”
The man rushed forward, and was promptly stopped by a red-eyed Fjor. “Not so fast.” He disarmed the older man with a simple swish of his blade. Bjorn raised his hands in surrender, squinty eyes narrowed in on Fjor’s glinting sword. “On your knees,” he told the man. “Quickly, lest my patience runs out and I make a home for my sword in your throat.”
Bjorn got to his knees. Sigrid ripped her eyes away from the scene in disgust. “Right,” she wrung a fistful of Gri’s hair, grazing her face even more against the tile. The gasp of pain she let out was like music to her ears. “I’m going to kill you,” she hissed in her ear. “For Loki, for my mother.” She looked around for a weapon. The sword that had pierced Loki’s back lay a few feet away from her. “Fjor!”
He turned to her and caught her gaze, kicking the sword to her in one smooth motion. Sigrid grabbed the hilt. Loki’s blood was now drying on it, darkening to a rust colour.
“You won’t kill me,” Gri taunted, though there was a tremble in her voice. “You won’t.”
Sigrid yanked her head back by the hair to expose her throat. She rested the blade right at the pulsing carotid, watching as Loki’s blood stained the white skin. “And why is that?”
“Because I know you.” Gri sneered. “Loki might slit my throat, but not you. You are not cruel or unjust, nor do you have the bloodlust of men. I’m afraid you simply do not have it in you, Sigrid, as you are your mother’s daughter through and through.”
Sigird’s hand tightened on the hilt. “You’re correct,” she replied, “but you’ve forgotten one thing.” Gri lifted a brow. “I am also my father’s.”
“SIGRID, WAIT!” It was Eva, grabbing her hand with both of hers to stop her. She seemed to have overcome the shock of her mother being a murderer. “Sigrid, please. You cannot kill her!”
“Why not?” Sigrid spat. “She killed my mother,” Eva flinched, “and she hurt Loki. Eva she hurt you, too! She almost let you go down for trying to poison me and she had Bjorn tie you up. It’s enough!” Sigrid emphasised her point with a shake of Gri’s head. “It’s all enough!”
“I understand that,” Eva whispered. “Sigrid, I understand. I’m sorry she killed your mother and I’m sorry she hurt Loki. Please, please, do not kill her. You are better than this. You cannot kill her.”
Sigrid’s grip on the sword faltered. “I—”
“Please.” Eva’s fingernails dug into the skin of her arm. Tears fell from her blue eyes. “Sister, please. You will have your retribution but please do not kill my mother.”
Sigrid dropped the sword. Gri tried to say something, but Sigrid slammed her head against the floor before she could annoy her further. Her body went limp on the tiles below.
“Thank you,” Eva breathed. Her head dropped into Sigrid’s shoulder, body shaking with sobs. “Thank you, sister. Thank you for sparing her life.”
“Sigrid.” Fjor’s voice drew her attention. He was handcuffing an irate Lord Bjorn to the foot of the throne. “Sigrid, is Loki alive?”
Loki! Sigrid scrambled over to his body. His lips had gone white now, and all the colour was drained from his face. She stroked his unruly hair, all the while holding back a river of panic. “I don’t know.” Eva knelt beside her. “Fjor, I don’t know!”
“Let me.” Eva moved her hand over Loki’s neck. Sigrid caught it with a vice grip. “Sigrid, I’m just going to check his pulse.” She released her hand, taking Loki’s in both of hers and bringing it to her lips for a kiss.
“You have to live,” she murmured against his hand. “You must live. For me, if not for yourself. There are so many things we never got to do— things we have to do together. Loki, you must live. If you go, I go. I cannot survive without you.”
“Oh!” Eva exclaimed. “Sigrid, give me your hand!” Eva did not wait for her response before grabbing it and sticking two of her fingers in a dip in Loki’s neck. Sigrid gasped when she felt it.
Thready and faint, but there, was Loki’s pulse beating against the pads of her fingers.
