All the Love {Thranduil x Reader Oneshot}
Requested by: @queenofmankind Wordcount: 3296 Summary:You show up uninvited to a grand affair, hosted by King Thranduil. There’s been some things left unspoken.
No matter how ornate your gown, or how beautifully braided your hair was, attention always went to the necklace that rested between your breasts. Silver, twisted into branches to make a teardrop like shape, framed the four pointed star within. It hung off of a delicate looking chain, but it was one which was extremely hard to break. Throughout your long life, it had never broken once, not even when you were a child and not as careful as perhaps you should have been. It was not only a beautiful piece of jewelry, but it was a sign of your life force. It was realized that if you were ever seen without it, it meant that you had fallen in love. Many elves had tried to have the privilege by courting you, but you remained stubborn and so the necklace had stayed. There was no one you had yet met who you would give your heart, your life to. The keyword in this being yet.
Tumblr media
The rain was falling when you reached Mirkwood. You never minded the rain, but nonetheless, it was a relief when you were under the thick canopy of trees rather than out in the open. It was only when you saw the lights floating among the trees that you even realized you had reached your destination. A blonde haired elf approached, his hair as straight as the tree trunks around you. “Welcome, Lady y/n,” He said with a bow of his head. You chuckled, your fingers playing at your bottom lip.
“After all of the playing that we had done while you were a child?” You asked, raising an eyebrow. “You should know better than to call me a Lady. We both know I’ve never acted like one.”
“Calling you a mudcrab wouldn’t have been as nice a greeting,” Legolas said with a smile, welcoming you into his arms. He still smelled of the deep forests, you noticed. Your oldest friend had not changed much over the years, though perhaps he had gotten a little more serious. It seems like it had just been yesterday when you had been one of his carers, and walked him through these very woods to help him appreciate nature. It was something that he was born with, but you had helped him to look beyond the trees. To respect the soil as well as the roots, and the birds as well as the leaves.
“Might have gotten a few looks for that, you’re right,” You smiled. You weren’t opposed to getting dirty when you went on your little adventures. It was why he called you mud crab - because you would wander into the lakes and come back looking like some sort of creature. He let go of you, and you let go of him, once the timing was on the verge of being inappropriate. “Thank you for inviting me.”
“He’d want you to be here,” Legolas said, taking you from your guards to lead you to where you would be staying.
“He still has no idea, does he?”
“He might. One of his spies might have already told him that you’re here.” Legolas was, of course, talking about his father. Thranduil, King of Mirkwood. The most noble and regal elf that you had known, except for perhaps Elrond. “He claims to know everything that goes on in here, but we still have some secrets.”
“That’s good. I would hate for him to know what we used to call him,” You whispered the last bit in case there were, indeed, spies about. Legolas smiled, and stopped in front of a archway.
“This will be your room,” He told you, bowing his head as you walked inside. It was a bit dark, but airy. Little fireflies were buzzing their way around, landing on the wooden headboard. Not much had changed in the millenia that you had been away. You could well recognize that it was the same room you used to use.
“Of course,” You said, your guard coming behind you, bearing your things. He started to unpack on your behalf. Gowns came out of your bags and were hung from a thin but strong branch, coming in from the outside. An owl flew in and perched on it, keeping its wide eyes on what was happening. “Where is your father now?”
“There’s a concert in the main hall. The first of many, I expect. I remember the celebrations for his 6000th birthday, and there was a lot to sit through. This year is meant to be more spectacular.”
“Well, it’s not everyday that a King makes it to seven thousand years old, now is it?” You said with a faint smile. You had come for the last large birthday, and the one before that. Back in the days when there was a Queen, Legolas’s mother, before she had passed. You had been a friend of hers from childhood. That was why you were selected to be one of her son’s caregivers after she was gone. You could tell him stories that Thranduil could not, and help him to forge a relationship with his dead mother. “I’ll freshen up and then I’ll go down. See if I can give him a little surprise.”
“I’ll be watching for you,” Legolas said with a grin. He left you and your guards to prepare for the night ahead. The first thing that you did was change out of your traveling attire into a more respectable gown. You chose something in a muted gold, floor length, with a slit in the front to make walking easier. It was a bit low on the chest to show off your necklace, but had long sleeves so it was still modest. With your hair tumbling down, you thought it was most appropriate for the beginning of a long birthday festival. Your guards gazed as you finished getting ready, bringing on a sort of confidence in you. You weren’t one one of the royals, but rather the daughter of a noble and thus you didn’t get much attention. You were only invited to this because of Legolas but - perhaps, you might look like you belong.
“You look beautiful, y/n,” Your closest friend and bodyguard told you, taking a seat on the floor. There would be more than enough protection in the concert hall. He and the few others would stay in your room until you returned, then find lodgings as close as they could be.
“Thank you,” You said with a curtsy. You wished them all a good night, then followed the few stragglers left to the grand hall. It was the sound of the music that guided you more than the elves. It was far from happy, but rather, a tragic sort of song, a longing sound coming from violins. Leave it to Thranduil to be dramatic.
You spotted the King as soon as you walked inside. He was sitting on his throne, hair draped over his shoulders, attention on the band in front of him. Standing to his right was Legolas, with his hands clasped in front of him, playing the part of the Prince. He caught your eye and let go of the facade for a second, sending you a smirk which you returned before standing on the sidelines to watch the band. You nudged yourself in beside Haldir, who smiled at you, and indicated that he was pleased to see you without verbalizing in it. It would be a very bad idea to interrupt the music.
The song came to an end, then something more upbeat started. “Would you like to dance?” Haldir asked, holding out his hand to you.
“I would be delighted,” You said, taking a hold of it. It was not a slow dance, but it was not as if elves were known for jigging the way that other races did. But you gave it a little of your energy, eyes sparkling bright as you did a spin. He was a beloved friend from years ago, but it had been centuries since you had seen him last. It was wonderful to be in his presence once more.
“First, you show up uninvited,” A voice drawled, bringing your attention to a figure standing beside you. You stopped mid-spin, frozen in spot at the stares this brought. “And then you don’t even come and say hello when you do get here. I must say, you are one of the rudest houseguests that I have had in quite some time. And to my birthday, of all occasions.”
Tumblr media
“Now now, Thranduil,” You said, letting go of Haldir’s hand so you could give a proper curtsy to the King. You noticed his eyes trail to your cleavage, but stopped at the necklace. It made you feel a little warm. “I wasn’t going to interrupt the experience of such a lovely band. I plan to stay for as long as you will have me, and would have come to you at an appropriate time. And as for being uninvited, I think you should ask your son about that.”
“I think I will,” Thranduil’s eyes flickered to his son who was still standing by the throne. I noticed him look uncomfortable at the glance, and walk to find someone to dance with. Some things never change. “You look well.”
“I am well, thank you,” You said with a smile. Haldir excused himself from his position beside you and went through the throngs of people who were still dancing. Even with the music still playing, some of the elves looked a little antsy for the King’s attention. It was a special celebration in his honor after all. “And you - you haven’t changed at all.”
“Older and wiser, though perhaps those are things that you cannot see,” Thranduil snapped his fingers and the band began playing another tune. One that you recognized as his favorite. You had heard it many times while you worked under him. “Would you care to dance?”
“It would be an honor,” You accepted his hand and fell into a perfect harmony with the King. And an honor it was - he could dance with anybody here. No one would dare to reject him, even if they had wanted to. They were all here for him, and here he was, picking you. The uninvited former nanny. A singer came onto the scene and gave a powerful performance of some passages, which you noticed Thranduil singing to as well under his breath. Where his hand and yours were clasped, you began to feel warm. And where the necklace sat upon your breast, that too was beginning to feel warmer. When the song came to a close, he bowed his head to you, and you curtseyed back to him.
“I’ll be just a few moments,” He said, barely moving his lips as he told this to you. No doubt you were the only one who could hear it, even with the enhanced ears of the others in the room. “I expect you to wait here for me.”
“Years, if I have to,” You risked saying, the tips of your ears growing red. A smug smirk went across Thranduil’s features, and you had just enough time to catch a glimpse of it before he headed back towards his throne to make a speech. He thanked everyone for coming out, he was honored to have them in his home, enjoy yourselves but follow the rules - the same speech he had given last year, you recalled. An elf came to you with a glass of sparkling water, which you accepted and sipped at while watching the display. Thranduil really was a good speaker, keeping eye contact with the adoring crowd throughout. He spoke about how everyone here was vital to his success as a ruler, and you thought - perhaps it was an illusion - that he looked at you as he said those words.
After the speech, the music picked back up, and finger foods started to arrive from the kitchens. You looked at the snacks with a sparkle in your eye but did not venture forth to take anything. You had been told to wait here and thus you would. You were as obedient as a perfect child, you thought, and your heart beat inside of your chest as you thought of what he might want from you. Elves were known for being aloof, nonchalant, emotionless.  Some certainly were, including the King that you were waiting for, while others had more man-like emotions. Like Legolas, who was still discovering his own. You were in the latter sort. You felt, and you felt things strongly, and you weren’t ashamed of that. Standing here, feeling like your heart was going to beat out of your chest - you never felt more alive.
You remained silent as you waited, though a few had asked you to dance. You only shook your head politely and sipped at your water, smiling softly at anyone who tried to get your eye. Thranduil had disappeared briefly, as had his son, but when they reappeared, it was not to the throne but it was to beside you.
“Why don’t you find someone to dance with, Legolas? I do recall that I had Lady y/n here give you lessons as a boy.”
“Yes, I hope you’ve kept up with those lessons,” You said with a mischievous look. Legolas looked a slight bit uncomfortable but he did give you a smile and a nod.
“I am a prince, of course I remember how to dance,” He protested, before going through the crowds to find someone to partner up with. Thranduil lightly touched your arm, the bell sleeves of his cloak almost enveloping it from sight.
“I wish to speak with you alone,” He commanded rather than asked. He turned on his heel and walked out of the grand hall, leaving all of the food and friends alone. You looked over your shoulder to see if anyone was paying attention to you now, but everyone was so excited over the delicacies, you didn’t even get a second glance. So you left as swiftly as the King did - for you knew that it was far easier to do as he said than deal with his temper tantrums. There was a reason that you and Legolas had called him King PrissyPants.
You saw the tail end of his cloak spin around a corner, and so you followed it cautiously until you found yourself by the dungeons. “Are you really this upset that I came uninvited?” You asked, feeling nervous.
He finally turned to look at you, with eyebrows furrowed. Why, it even brought a wrinkle to his otherwise ageless appearance. “Yes,” He started. “Tell me - do you know why I didn’t invite you?”
“I didn’t really think about it much,” You admitted. “I didn’t take it personally, is what I mean. Perhaps because I’m just a former nanny?” You weren’t regretting coming at all - seeing Thranduil and Legolas was worth this grief, but you were starting to think it might not have been the best decision you’ve ever made.
Thranduil took a deep breath in, and then a deep breath out. It was really weird seeing him out of sorts like this. “No - that is not why,” He stared at you, hard. You could physically feel it. “It is because I do not plan on getting married ever again because of how heart breaking it was to lose...” He couldn’t even say her name, and you could not blame him. You felt sorrow for him, until you remember how this conversation had come about.
“What has that to do with my being here, Thranduil?” You addressed him by his name, rather than just his title. It felt more personal. This whole conversation felt more personal.
“When I watched you raise my son, it brought something out of my heart that I was never ready to admit to. Even now, I do not wish to say anything out loud. To me, the years since I’ve seen you last were long, but I was ready to move on, to attend to my duties as King. To focus all of my energies on Mirkwood. But then you came along once more, ready to ruin all of that.”
Damn your human-like emotions! You were close to a faint with all of the words that he spoke. Never had anyone come across as so romantic while so angry before. And angry he was - you could see that he blamed you rather than his own heart for these feelings. “I know you have cared for others in your long life, so you are more than capable. But has it really become so foreign to you that it infuriates you? Have you forgotten that love can be such a beautiful thing?”
“I have not forgotten, but neither have I forgotten the feeling of losing it.” Thranduil’s thumb grazed against his lower lip. It took restraint not to kiss him there and then. You weren’t just here for a good party, you were here to see him, and what he was saying - why, they were things you felt when you lived under his canopy centuries ago.
Tumblr media
“As a King, I understand that you sometimes must dwell on the shadows for it helps you to find the light once more,” You said, your own hands going to the back of your neck, fiddling with the chain. “The sun always rises again, you know this as well as anyone. So I am going to give you a little something which I hope brings the dawn.”
The necklace fell loose against your chest. You kept hold of the chain, and held it out to Thranduil to take. He did not do so, but regardless, it wrapped it around his wrist with the pendant resting on top. “I’m not sorry that I came back for the celebration. I’m not going to apologize for coming back to you. I think that she would have wanted me to take care of you, as well as Legolas. So take this, and know what it means.”
You patted his hand, leaving the necklace with him, then turned and quickly went back to the party. You couldn’t make eye contact with anyone when you returned, your nerves were buzzing with the possibilities. Thranduil was a King - surely he would not want the heart of someone like you.
“Where is your-?” Legolas asked upon approaching you, but you hushed him, just like you had done when he was a child. You didn’t want any of Thranduil’s subjects hearing what he was going to ask.
“Hush now,” You said, taking his hands and leading him into a dance. “We’ll find out sooner or later, won’t we?”
It was sooner rather than later. Thranduil returned to the party after a few more songs. Around his neck, in a place of high honor, was your necklace. The pendant that meant your life, your love, your being, was close to his heart. He saw you dancing with his son and sent you a rare smirk as he took his seat upon the throne. That alone was enough for now. That was a serious sign that feelings were returned. If he did not return them, the necklace would have been sent discreetly to your room.
“I’m not calling you mother,” Legolas said seriously, once he saw what you had been looking at.
“I wouldn’t expect you too. Mud-crab is always fine by me.”

Kingly Duties (Aragorn X Reader)
Summary: Post Return of the King, Reader discovers that many of the Fellowship have no idea of how to ballroom dance. Unfortunately, they’re going to have to soon, what with Aragorn’s coronation coming up and a large celebration planned afterward. Keeping this in mind, the reader takes it upon herself to teach her friends. However, her friends have a few ideas on who she should be teaching to dance.
Key: (Y/N) - your name
Today’s Playlist: Nope, nothing. I guess. I mean, there’s probably a song out there, but I wasn’t listening to it when I wrote this.
Cast: YOU! Aragorn/Estel, Gimli son of Gloin, Legolas Greenleaf, Peregrin (Pippin) Took, Meriadoc (Merry) Brandybuck, Samwise (Sam) Gamgee, Frodo Baggins, Gandalf the White, Faramir, mentions of Boromir, Arwen, and Elrond, and some random messenger guy as well as mentions of random advisors.
Warnings: Fluff!! If you don’t like fluff, that’s a warning. Also, the Fellowship being bad at dancing. ALSO Legolas teasingly offending dwarves
Status: Complete! (Might consider a sequel if someone requests it. Or a prequel)
“What do you mean you can’t dance, Gimli?!” You exclaim loudly enough for the rest of the Fellowship to hear. At least, what remains of it. Since Boromir died, it’s been far quieter. The rest of the Fellowship has gathered in celebration of Aragorn’s coronation, but that is a few days away.
The dwarf scoffs, “I don’t need to know how, lass! I don’t know why you’re so surprised.”
You gape, “You’re telling me that dwarves don’t dance?!”
    “Not often.”
Legolas, who is reclined on a chair nearby, laughs lightly. “Why am I not surprised?”
Gimli glares at him, though it is well meant and fondly. Pippin, who is on one side of the room alongside his hobbit brethren, pipes up. “I don’t know how to ballroom dance, but I can do a jig!”
You gape further and turn to the hobbits with your arms crossed over your chest. “Excuse me?!”
They look at you with terrified faces, unsure of whether Pippin has made a good decision in informing you of their inabilities. Gandalf chuckles around his pipe. “Hobbits are known to dance in merrier forms, (Y/N), not in such formal ways that you know.”
You turn to him swiftly, protesting. “Dunedain are not known for their formal dancing, Gandalf. I am simply cultured.”
Aragorn chuckles, smiling to himself at your antics. He is slouched into his chair and smoking his pipe in a similar fashion to that of Gandalf, very unkingly.
You turn to him with a devilish smirk. He notices this and cocks an eyebrow. “And I seem to remember a young man with two left feet that I had to dance around a Ranger camp with for weeks before he finally figured it out.”
The Fellowship all laugh as Aragorn shrugs, raising his hands in surrender. “And I am all but ashamed of it. I’ve never been one for dancing.”
Strangely enough, Legolas has been silent. Aragorn seems to notice this as well and turns to his elven friend with a mischievous look. Legolas sends him a glare, practically demanding he remain quiet. Aragorn, however, does not listen. “Though I know someone who is.”
You look to Legolas with a pleasantly surprised expression. “Legolas? You can dance?”
Legolas sighs and nods, still upset with Aragorn. Gimli laughs heartily, “The elf! Dance! Ahahaha! As what would be expected of a princeling!”
Legolas glares at Gimli, then smirks. “A fair opportunity to meet fair maidens who don’t retain any facial hair, I would call it.”
Gimli looks offended, though he knows the elf is teasing, and starts to speak. You interrupt, still curious about Legolas’ skills. “Were you raised to know it or was this a recent development?”
“About as recent as it can get for an elf, you mean,” Gandalf mutters, adding onto your statement.
Legolas ignores his wizard companion, knowing full well that Gandalf is in a similar situation as he recognizes elves to be. “My father taught me.”
Aragorn’s head snaps up, “Thranduil, King of the Greenwood? Truly?”
“A long time ago.” Legolas elaborates to his friend, who clearly knows more of his father than anyone else does. “Before he became so...cold.”
It is silent for a few moments. Only a few understood the words of Legolas and sympathized, while the others simply didn’t know what to say. So, you spoke up. “That’s it! None of you are going to the coronation with mediocre skills in dancing!”
There are immediate protests from all sides of the room, even Legolas’. It seems that he doesn’t want to embarrass himself in front of the Fellowship, nor does he enjoy dancing. Gandalf chuckles at the others, knowing he won’t be forced to dance. Aragorn especially does not enjoy dancing in front of others, as you know well. However, you have other plans.
“None of you are getting out of this!” You inform them as they start to quiet, accepting their fate. “Now, I need a partner….”
You look around the room, examining everyone carefully. You already know who you’re going to pick, but it’s fun to see them frantically fear for their dignity. Pippin and Merry look absolutely terrified while Frodo seems to sink into the background, trying to disappear. Sam frowns but looks submissive as if he won’t deny a request. Poor Sam; too nice for his own good. Gimli avoids your gaze, hoping that you won’t make eye contact and immediately choose him. Gandalf continues to chuckle and leans back into his chair, knowing full well that you won’t pick him. Aragorn shifts in his chair slightly but smirks knowingly.
“Legolas!” You announce and smile at the others sighing in relief, then laughing at Legolas’ grim expression. “Come here and help me teach them.”
He sighs and stands, taking his position in front of you. You start to teach the large group, bidding them be silent and hear your lessons. “You put your hand on her hip, here, while she puts her hand on your shoulder. The man always leads, unless the lady is headstrong.” You wink at Aragorn out of view of the others and he glances away shyly, which isn’t normal for him. Then again, you are his best friend. “Legolas, go ahead.”
He starts to lead you around the room in a classic formal, waltz-like, dance. “One, two, three. One, two, three. One, two, three.” You twirl around the room simply, firmly holding his shoulder and smiling as he gets faster. Soon, you are rushing around the room with him spinning you every so often and the both of you taking advanced steps. The others begin to clap in rhythm with your movements, cheering the both of you on. It isn’t exactly formal, but it’s enjoyable.
Eventually, you come to a stop, laughing and brushing your hair out of your face. “Thank you, Legolas.”
“My pleasure.” He does a silly little bow, so you curtsy in return.
You turn to the others in the Fellowship, “Did you get that?” They nod slowly, doubting themselves. You roll your eyes, then clap your hands to get things moving. “Lovely! Now, pair up. We have a shortage of women, so we’ll have to deal with this for now.”
They laugh and protest, but soon find their partners. Frodo and Sam, Merry and Pippin, and Legolas and Gimli, though they are reluctant and hesitant. There are some arguments about who will lead, but you quickly settle them. “Legolas, Sam, and Merry, you lead.”
You start toward Gandalf, but Legolas interrupts. “(Y/N), you should dance with Aragorn! He’s gotten rusty!”
Aragorn glares at Legolas, thinking that it’s out of your line of sight. You blush slightly and glance toward Gandalf, who nods approvingly. So, you approach Aragorn, who stands and takes your hand. You roll your eyes as he kisses it teasingly, then you curtsy, going along with his little game. You walk toward the middle of the room together and quickly get into position.
You start slowly as you both get into the rhythm, finding yourselves. However, you quickly turn to a fast-paced dance, twirling in between the other pairs of men, laughing heartily. Aragorn smiles as you laugh, spinning you this way and that, careful not to trod on your toes. He’s a skilled dancer, but you already knew that. After all, you were the one who taught him all he knows on the subject. You continue for some time as the others around you warm up to dancing and start to get faster.
You and Aragorn speak quietly as you dance around the room. “Where did you learn to dance, (Y/N)?”
You furrow your brows, “I don’t quite remember, actually.”
“You should do it more often.” He compliments with a small smile, spinning you around.
You blush and glance at your feet, then back up at him with a smile. “You should as well, m’lord. You’ll have to get used to it, being a King and all.”
Aragorn laughs heartily, his head tilting back ever so slightly. He doesn’t laugh as loudly around the others usually. You can tell by their expressions. Even after so long of a journey, you still find ways to surprise them.
The merriment comes to an end far too quickly as the other pairs break up and take a breather, as many of them are exhausted. You and Aragorn, however, continue to waltz around the room joyfully, both of you having far more stamina than the others. Once you reach the middle of the room again, you stop, the others cheering at your amazing display. You and Aragorn laugh heartily, but he does not let go of you. Your heart flutters as you look up at him, his eyes brighter than they have been in a long time, since before the war.
He reaches a hand up to your cheek as everyone is still laughing and chattering excitedly. He starts to lean in and your heart soars. Is this really happening right now?
Suddenly, the door to the lounge opens and Aragorn separates himself from you with lightning reflexes. A male messenger enters, clearing his throat. The entire room goes silent and looks at him expectantly. “My lord,” He addresses Aragorn, “Your advisors wish to speak to you about the coronation.”
Aragorn sighs a little, starting toward the messenger to leave, but turns back toward you all. “Apologies, my friends. The duties of a King are never finished.” With that, he is gone. You sigh loudly as he disappears from sight, the door closing behind him. The Fellowship is silent around you. They saw the glimmer in his eyes and are very aware of what he was going to do.
    “Apologies, lass,” Gimli mutters grimly.
Legolas frowns, gazing after his friend. Frodo stays quiet, Sam whispering something to him with a concerned expression. Pippin pipes up, “What?”
Merry smacks the back of his head, “Pip!”
“Fool of a Took,” Gandalf mutters darkly, glaring at the halfling, who looks utterly guilty now.
You glance at the ground, clenching your fists frustratedly. Why hadn’t you just leaned forward a little? You quickly leave the room, suddenly embarrassed. Nothing ever happens to you when it comes to Aragorn. You’re always so close to that one moment, yet so far. Each time you seem to reset back to just being friends. It never changes.
After that day, Aragorn is extremely busy. He isn’t seen by anyone for days, other than by his advisors and planners for the coronation. The time drags on in anticipation that you might see him again, alone. However, it isn’t until the actual coronation and celebration that you are able to catch sight of him. Correction, he catches sight of you.
You find yourself dancing in the middle of the ballroom with Legolas, though you’re about to switch around. It’s a certain type of dance that has the women move around in a circle, switching between multiple partners.
You keep glancing around worriedly. You haven’t seen him since the coronation actually happened. “He will find you eventually, mellon.” Legolas reassures with a friendly smile.
You sigh, “I wish he would do more than simply find me.”
Legolas gives a sympathetic look. “I know Aragorn well, (Y/N), and I know he will not let you wait much longer.”
Soon, the music changes, sounding the noise that sends you to your next partner. You give Legolas a quick thank you and curtsy before moving left to your new dance partner. To your surprise, you find a swift-footed Faramir dancing with you. He chuckles lightly at your surprise.
“What are you doing here?” You hiss at him, “You’re supposed to be in the healer’s!”
“He decided I was well enough to share in the festivities.” Faramir shrugs. You roll your eyes fondly as you continue to dance. He notices your worried glances. “Have you not seen him yet?”
“No.” You let out a breath of frustration.
Faramir cocks an eyebrow, “He almost did it again, didn’t he?”
You blush and glance at your feet, muttering something under your breath. It was something along the lines of, ‘men’ and a few curses that shouldn’t be named in the halls of Gondor’s kings.
Faramir chuckles loudly, “Everything will be fine, (Y/N), and if he doesn’t make a move, I’ll give him a little shove.” He winks, causing you to laugh. He knows just the way to cheer you up. Having been a Dunedain all your life, you’ve often run into Faramir and Boromir, or both, on your travels. Faramir is a good friend, though he is still not on the level that Aragorn is. He knows this, but he doesn’t mind.
Next, you find yourself dancing with Pippin, then Merry, then Sam, and finally Frodo. All of them share kind words with you about the situation. What good friends they are, you can’t help but think. Leaving Frodo behind, you don’t bother to look at who your next partner will be. At this point, you’ve already been disappointed repeatedly. Still, if Aragorn were here, he couldn’t dance with you anyway.
Aragorn has a duty as the King to marry someone of worth and someone who will do well for his kingdom, none of which are qualities you possess. Besides, many have already attempted to find partners for him, one major possibility being the daughter of Elrond; Arwen. Aragorn considers her a sister and nothing more, but the people and his advisors see it as a good opportunity for the welfare of the kingdom. Even Aragorn cannot deny that.
“Will you not look at me, melin?” A gentle voice asks.
You gape and turn to the voice, who is now taking you in his arms and dancing with you. “Aragorn?” You look around worriedly at the crowd of people celebrating the new King, knowing they’ve started to whisper. “What are you doing?” You hiss quietly as you look down at your feet in embarrassment.
He gives you a look of genuine hurt and confusion. “Can I not dance with my closest friend?’
You are silent. He’s reverted back to that again. Friend. He continues to spin you around the floor, the other pairs of dancers suddenly becoming far more interesting than the handsome figure holding you tightly.
He starts to whisper in Sindarin, determined for you to speak. “Is this about earlier? (Y/N), you and I both know there is something there. You can feel it too, I know.”
You look up at him for a few moments, finally making eye contact. The crowd’s whispers are growing louder in your ears. You can’t hear what they’re truly saying, but you can imagine their words in your mind. Who is she? Why does he choose to acknowledge her? She doesn’t look to be a queen. Why her?
Aragorn realises you’ve noticed them. His expression softens, his dark eyes filled with hurt. “This is about them, isn’t it?”
“Of course it is.” You reply quietly, in a hushed whisper. “And you. You have a duty as King-”
“I care not for duty, melin.” He tilts his head in the way you’ve always loved. It’s so him. He grips your hand tightly and brings your knuckles to his lips, kissing them gently. His lips barely move as he murmurs, not breaking his gaze from yours. You’re enveloped in his gaze, barely hearing his words and yet hearing them as loud as thunder in a storm at the same time. “But I care for you.”
He smiles and leans forward, his gentle hand upon your cheek. You don’t stop him, leaning forward a little to meet his lips on yours. You both continue to dance slowly as your lips meet and you bask in the glory of everything that has built up to this moment. Sparks fly as he holds you tightly, swaying across the floor. As you release from the kiss, you gasp for breath, as it lasted a long time. It only felt like seconds and ones that fleeted far too quickly.
Aragorn cracks a smile once more upon seeing faint tears in your eyes. You’ve been waiting so long for that. Far too long. He reaches a soft hand to your cheek and wipes the tears away fondly. Chuckling lightly, he pulls you into a tight embrace, your head leaned against his chest. “Oh, (Y/N).”
You lean into him contentedly, blushing and burying your head against his chest upon noticing the Fellowship gathered on one side of the room, sending you smiles and cheers. Aragorn only smiles brighter and holds you tighter, smiling victoriously at his friends and people. He does not care whether you are high in rank. He only cares that you are by his side.
Note: I had too much fun with this one, lol.

Drunk Headcanons- Gentlemen
“Alcohol does not change you, it just makes you lose control of your inhibitions. What those people did--it was inside them.” -Dan Howlter
Genji
Pre-cyborg? Definitely the sexual predator drunk. Can’t keep his hands off anyone, cat-calls, making offensive comments, and much more likely to make a move on you and wake up with you the next morning with no memory how he got there.
Liked all kinds of wild, new cocktails (Sakura martinis, Niagara Grapes, even Grasshoppers)
Even though he drank a lot back then, this pretty boy could never build up a proper tolerance. Two and a half cocktails in and he’s singing ebarassingly at the kareoke bar
Now, well, I’m not sure he can process alcohol in his new body
I mean, it hasn’t been explicitely said if he can eat and drink or not anymore, but I’m assuming not
This has actually been really bugging me, in one of his voice lines, he says “Ramen! *sigh* It’s just not the same anymore.”
Which raises the question if it’s just that he can’t eat or if things taste differently or don’t taste at all for him
Which then makes me wonder if he has a mouth, which I think he does uuugh, I’m so confused
And in the newest lines with him and Angela exchanging chocolates? Angela would know whether or not he can eat, so she either knows he can eat the chocolates or is just giving them to him as a kind gesture to show that even though he’s a cyborg, he still deserves the same courtesies given to regular humans
BUT for now, I’m going to assume he can’t drink anymore
Although he still has a brain, so that means his brain can still be intoxicated, so saying that he was somehow intoxicated through some other means...
He would be very unaccustomed to the feeling, after all, it’s been so long since he’s been tipsy or drunk
Gets very quiet and ponderous, examining himself curiously for any reasons why he feels buzzed (think Legolas after the drinking contest in Lord of the Rings)
McCree
As he says in the game, he prefers alcohol with more of a bite to it
So I’d say he prefers tequila, whisky, gin
Back in his Deadlock days, when he turned 16, the members probably gave him a little “initiation” involving a bottle of tequila, a lemon, Kosher salt, and a worm (look it up)
Drinking is a common part of Jesse’s life, and he almost always sipping on a glass of whisky in the evenings
Gets wasted at least once every two weeks
Not the most healthy lifestyle
But he’s pretty good at hiding that he’s drunk
Sure, he gets louder, sillier, maybe a little grope-y with his s/o, but when it comes to drunk tests, as long as there’s no breathalizers, he can walk a straight line like it’s nothing
Years of experience
He has a pretty high tolerance, he is a cowboy after all, and he can drink most anyone under the table
But after about 10 shots of tequila, he’s gonna get drunk
Reaper
Back in his Overwatch days, probably went out drinking with Jack quite a bit
These two would usually have some cold beers, but on special nights, martinis or margaritas
I’d even headcanon that he used to make the martinis and margaritas for the two of them
Can probably still shake up a potent drink even now
Used to have drinking contests every now and then with Torbjorn, Jack, and Reinhardt. He had a friendly contest with Jack, but always resented Rein for winning 70% of the time
He came close to beating him once, but...
He has a pretty good alcohol tolerance even today, it’s just that he doesn’t drink much anymore (not sure if he even can in his ghostly form)
But even if he can drink as Reaper, he probably avoids drinking simply because it interferes with his work
Doesn’t want to look unprofessional
But before the fall of Overwatch, when he and Morrison were butting heads, he probably drank quite a bit to calm his nerves
And some nights he’d just drink, and drink, and drink...
A mix of the angry, emotional, and tired drunk
Starts off really pissed, maybe throwing things, complaining about how much he hates Overwatch
Then gets really emo and mopes. Back then it’d be about how he lost his friendship with Jack. Now it’d be about living as a literal ghost
Then just collapses and falls asleep
Soldier: 76
Back in his Overwatch days, probably went out drinking with Gabriel quite a bit
These two would usually have some cold beers, but on special nights, martinis or margaritas
Used to have drinking contests every now and then with Torbjorn, Gabe, and Reinhardt
Almost always the first one out. Though, he has a decent tolerancy
Was probably still professional with his alcohol before the fall of Overwatch
He was the Strike Commander, after all
Only drank off-duty
Now, he’s a little less of gentleman and will drink beer and whisky whenever he feels like it
He’s a grizzly, war-worn old man, you think he cares?
He’s an angry and emotional drunk
He won’t start fights, but if someone says even remotely offensive about him or his friends, he’ll be up in their face!
But towards the end of the night, he’ll get really sad and will start to monologue about the “good ‘ol days”
Hanzo
Prefers sake or any smooth, sophisticated drink. Nothing with a “bite” to it like McCree likes
Has always been very responsible with his alcohol. He had an image to uphold after all, and that sense of duty has never left him
Slowly sips his sake, taking into account how much he’s had and when to stop
But he’s such a kill-joy when he drinks with friends or significant others
Always reminding them when they’ve gone over their limit, being dubious of whether or not they can handle certain drinks, and sometimes cutting them off entirely!
Very much like Symm when it comes to drinking. He’ll drink, but he doesn’t believe alcohol should be drank for the sake of getting drunk. It should be savored for its taste and history. Only drinks it to unwind
But he can still get drunk. Once he’s hit a nice buzz, his responsibility will begin to waver, and he’ll lose track of how much he’s had
Probably the emotional drunk, mumbling about how the Shimada empire was to be his, how horrible he was to kill Genji, blah blah blah...
Junkrat
Ooooh boy...Oh dear....
There is NOTHING this boy won’t drink (but it has to be confirmed alcohol. He will not drink turpentine or boot-shine just to get drunk)
But this boy won’t even shy away from moonshine!
For him, alcohol was MADE to get you drunk! Jamie doesn’t drink unless he is seriously aiming to get wasted!
But he’s not a total alcoholic. He never drinks when he’s on a heist because he knows it’ll affect his work
Only drinks when he knows he doesn’t have anywhere to be in the next 12 hours (this does not exclude day drinking)
Usually just drinks plain old amber fluid (Aussie slang for beer) since it’s the cheapest
Always makes sure his friends have something to drink along with him. Coldies for everyone!
But who said he was paying? Who said he didn’t steel the coldies?
Not sure what Jamison’s tolerancy is since he chugs his drinks too fast to keep track of. He wants to get on that high fast!
A loud, silly drunk who laugh maniacally and catches the bar on fire!
Torbjorn
Despite his size, he can drink a lot.
In his drinking contests with Rein, Gabe, and Jack, he’d win occasionally
A very loud drunk who will do drunken jigs on the table
Reinhardt
Good luck getting this man drunk. He’s drank some bars clean before
He’s seven feet tall, after all
Loves a good drinking contest since he knows he’ll usually win
But just like battle, he lives for that rush of competition as he swigs down another glass of beer, staring his opponent dead in the eyes
Prefers German beers with the occasional schnapps
IF somehow you got him drunk, I’m sorry
He’s loud and VERY unaware of his size and spatial relation
He’ll teeter around, knock things over, collapse into tables (breaking them), and knock people flat on their faces when he pats them on the back
And if he passes out, you’ll have to call a tow truck to haul him out of there
Roadhog
Doesn’t like to brag, but he has a tolerancy level to rival Reinhardt’s
Can often be caught day drinking on the couch with a coldie, even when he has somewhere to be that day (he can handle a few beers before then)
But usually doesn’t drink in front of people except Junkrat, since it requires him to lift up his mask or take it off entirely
If he were to brag about his drinking capabilities, then someone would try to get him to prove it, and he doesn’t want to take off his mask in public...
But then there’s Junkrat, bragging for him, “You wouldn’t believe how much my friend Roadie here can drink!”
“Mrrghh...” he grumble, “Shut. Up.”
The biggest, hungriest, sleepiest drunk. It’s hard to get him drunk, though
But once he is, he’ll suddenly start making drunk food decisions and ordering hugs amounts of food at once!
Then he’ll scarf it all down, let out a monstrous burp, and pass out...
You should have seen how much he ordered during Chinese New Year! Where do you think that highlight reel came from?
Lucio
He likes a good drink as much as the average guy, but he’s always sure to be careful
An all-around wholesome guy who looks out for his friends too when they drink. Reminds them when it’s time to take a break, have a snack, or maybe stop all together
His favorite drinks are Jell-O shots and he loves drinking if it involves a drinking game
When he gets drunk, though, he’ll pull out his tunes and start playing them really loud!
Eventually he’ll dig up some irritating meme music and start blaring that, laughing hysterically to it
He’s been booted from a few clubs early in his career for playing annoying music. Now he knows when it’s time to be responsible.
Zenyatta
Zenny can’t drink, but I’m sure there’s a way to screw with an omnics circuits and recreate a drunken feeling for them
And he’d be such a silly drunk! He is only 20 after all--sassy little college student...
The next morning he’d be so apologetic for anything he did. He’d say that he just wasn’t himself.
