2021 Lancaster Week Day 3: Text Chain
After a long day of huntress work, and a shower, Ruby lays prone on her bed trying to unwind and relax. Her hair was still slightly damp but it was nothing traditional air drying could fix. Also Yang held the hair dryer at the time, no one was getting that away from her.
With nothing else to do, Ruby takes out her new scroll, the one provided by General Ironwood, and scrolls through her transferred contacts. While she was happy with this new scroll, she was disappointed that her messages and chats from the previous device were unable to transfer. Nearly two years worth of memories were no longer there and this made Ruby feel slightly bummed out.
While scrolling through her contacts, she notices something that caught her eye. Upon looking carefully at Jaune’s contact icon, gone was Jaune’s old Beacon face, replaced with his Huntsman license picture with current Atlas hairstyle. She did her best to stifle herself from laughing.
Smiling, she taps on Jaune’s contact and opens a chat with her fellow leader and friend.
Ruby: Hey Jaune.
“New scroll, new memories,” Ruby chants to herself. She shifts on her bed, not sure when Jaune would reply to her message. May take a–
Vomit Boy: Hey.
–or he could respond instantly. This works as well.
Ruby: Like your new profile pic!
Ruby: It looks professional. ^_^
Ruby waits for his reply, hoping Jaune was in the mood to talk.
Vomit Boy: Thanks! I’m still processing that we’re technically Huntsmen now.
Ruby: I know, right?
Ruby: It’s so cool!
Vomit Boy: What are you girls up to rn?
Ruby: We got back from a mission, so we’re all pretty tired.
Ruby: You?
Vomit Boy: I’m beat, so are Ren and Oscar. Nora is …well, Nora.
Ruby: lol
Vomit Boy: But we’re good.
Ruby: Nice!
Ruby is glad to hear that Jaune, Ren, Nora and Oscar are settling in nicely. After traveling two continents together, she had established an attachment with everyone on Jaune’s team, so to hear that they were doing well made her happy.
Ruby: Hope you aren’t mad about us leaving you to babysit all those kids.
Vomit Boy: Ha. You don’t say?
Vomit Boy: It’s alright though, I don’t think any of you minus Ren and your sis knows anything about kids.
Ruby: Hey Weiss has a younger sibling!
Vomit Boy: Isn’t he the reason she’s not an heiress anymore?
Ruby: …
Ruby: Fair.
Vomit Boy: Anyway, I took some pictures during the first day of the job. Wanna see?
Ruby: Sure!
Ruby happily kicks her legs back and forth, she’s gonna have some new photos in her gallery, new memories!
Vomit Boy: *shows the front of a elementary school, called “Mantle Elementary”*
Vomit Boy: Here’s the school!
Ruby: I see! Cool!
Ruby knew it wasn’t all that amazing, but it was Jaune’s first day as a huntsman so she wants to support him. He deserves that and more.
Vomit Boy: *shows a group of children waving at the camera*
Vomit Boy: Here are the kids who I was escorting.
Ruby: Aw! ^v^
‘So these were the kids that Jaune looked after as a traffic guard, they look like a good group of kids. Hopefully they didn’t give him too much trouble,’ Ruby ponders while looking at Jaune’s proud face.
Vomit Boy: *A selfie of Jaune… shirtless, fresh from the shower*
Ruby’s face flushes at the sight, nearly dropping her scroll from her hands.
Vomit Boy: CRAP!
Vomit Boy: I didn’t mean to send that!
Vomit Boy: Ignore that picture! DX
That was something Ruby could not do, her eyes were glued to screen as she observes the results of Jaune’s countless night training sessions.
Ruby was no stranger to seeing muscular guys, there were many shirtless men during the first night she spent at Beacon. Seeing her friend shirtless, his chest bare and his abdomen exposed on her scroll screen, it made her cheeks glow as bright as her namesake.
Especially since she was starting to become aware of her budding attraction towards her fellow leader.
Her fingers twitch and hover over her scroll’s key pad, not sure how to reply to this little accident.
~ ~ ~
‘Crap! Crap! Crap! Why didn’t you delete that photo earlier,’ Jaune thought, chiding himself in his head.
He truly didn’t mean to send that embarrassing photo, he misclicked and absentmindedly sent his shirtless frame before he realized his mistake.
How could he fix this? Ruby is an understanding person so she possibly may just brush it off as a simple accident. But the next time they meet will no doubt be awkward.
As he was cursing himself his scroll pings, signifying that Ruby finally responded to his message.
His eyes shift down to look at his chat on this screen.
Crater-Face: You’re ok.
Jaune lets out a sigh of relief, nothing was awkward, at least he still hopes that is the case. Either way, it’s one disaster that was avoided.
He didn’t know what he would do if his long time friend, one that he admires and holds in high regard, found him to be weird, sending mixed signals.
He’s about to type a message of thanks when he sees that Ruby was still typing something.
‘Was there something else she wanted to say?’ Jaune asks himself. He shakes his head dismissively.
‘She probably just wants to make a joke about the picture, like how my hair looks like bananas or something,’ He concludes as he waits for his fellow leader’s reply.
He soon eats his own words quickly, for just as he receives her message though, his jaw dropped.
Crater-Face: *picture of Ruby in her pajamas in her dorm’s bathroom, her hair still damp and shining in the light. She even makes a, shockingly, less than adorable pouting face while her silver eyes star at the camera*
Crater-Face: You should be careful who you send those kinds of pictures to, mister VB. I’m all flustered now. >3<
Jaune was at a loss for words. Had Ruby– was she flirting with him!?
Crater-Face: Well?
Crater-Face: How do I look?
Jaune pauses then pinches himself to make certain that he was not hallucinating– “Ah!” –Nope, he was awake.
This was real. This was his long time friend and newly found crush texting him a selfie and asking for validation.
His validation.
Jaune’s fingers tremble over his scroll’s keypad.
~ ~ ~
Ruby sits down on the counter awaiting Jaune’s reply, nervously twiddling her finger. She really hoped that she wasn’t too forward, it took a lot of tries and effort on her part to get it just right. Nervously angling and posing for the picture she just sent, and even still that was the fourth one she had managed to take.
She feels her scroll ping, he replied. Taking a deep breath and exhaling, she looks down to see what he said.
Vomit Boy: You look amazing. <3
Ruby lets out a shaky laugh, next thing she knows her face is flushed again. Only this time, it’s accompanied with giggles of elation.
In the next room over, Jaune was having a similar reaction. Smiling ear to ear at the “heart” he got in reply.
Crater-Face: ^v^ <3

Bad Timing (Levi x reader) Part 1
Tumblr media
Summary: How do you tell your friends that you’re falling in love with your big brother’s best friend?
word count: 6k
__
You sighed, slumping in the uncomfortable plastic chair. Your back was killing  you, it was only 1st  period but you were more than eager for the day to end. Your chemistry teacher stood in the front of the room flipping through the slides on the board. You couldn't care less, it was Friday, and you were ready for the weekend. You folded your arms and rested your head in the crook of your elbow, turning your head slightly to the left you gazed longingly out of the second story window. It was a gloomy fall day, surely there would be a football game tonight, not that you would be attending. A strong gust of wind blew a flurry of colorful leaves past the, the clouds seemed to grow increasingly darker. You managed to turn back to the front of the class and at least pretend that you were paying attention, your classmates on the other hand did not even try to hide their disinterest. Sasha was rummaging through her lunch box, Connie was balancing a pencil on his upper lip, Eren had his head rested on his forearm his other hand held his phone under the desk as he mindlessly tapped through peoples' snapchat stories. Mikasa would send him disapproving glares every once in a while as she diligently copied down the notes. Armin sat next to you, separating you from Mikasa and Eren, he also was taking excellent notes, even going as far as copying down all of the graphs and diagrams. You risked another glance out the window to your left to see a few fat rain drops falling out of the sky.
You smiled softly, the thought of sitting at home tucked under your favorite quilt with a cup of tea and a good book. You would have the house all to yourself tonight, your older brother Erwin was a senior, captain of the football team and golden boy of the school. He was the school's varsity quarterback, giving him an impressive social status, he would surely be playing in the game tonight. Your mother worked as a nurse at your local hospital, often opting to take the nightshifts, meaning you rarely saw her. You hummed thoughtfully, your mind wandering as you increasingly lost interest in the lecture. Now you were considering what to make for dinner, you could make macaroni and cheese, or a grilled cheese with tomato soup? Your teacher still droned on at the front of the class, now working out a simple stoichiometry problem. The sound of the door opening and quickly closing drew you out of your daze, Hange entered the room carrying a large box of beakers and test tubes. She gently kicked the door closed before making her way to the back of the large classroom to begin organizing and cleaning the glassware. You caught her eye and smiled at her, wanting very badly to speak with her, she always managed to keep you on your toes and very much in the present. You had a bad tendency to get lost in your thoughts and daydream, but she never gave you a chance whenever you were in her presence. She smiled back as she gently placed the box on one of the lab stations in the back and began pulling the equipment out one by one.
Hange was also a senior this year, she was easily the top of her class, she had already accumulated enough credits so instead of taking pottery or something she opted to be a teacher's assistant for your chemistry teacher. You slid your phone out of your pocket and opened your messages, you scrolled until you found Hange's contact, you quickly typed out a message, "want to come over and bake pumpkin cookies after school?" before pocketing your phone once more. The loud ding  from the back of the room signaled that she had received your message, your teacher paused and gave Hange a pointed glance, one eyebrow raised. Hange chuckled nervously and squeaked out a meek 'sorry'. Satisfied, your teacher turned back to the bored and continued the lesson. Your phone vibrated, you pulled it out of your pocket and smiled at the message, "of course! then we can take them to the game!" the excitement you felt quickly vanished, you should have known she would want to go to the game, she was dating your brother for crying out loud. You sighed and glanced out the window once more, the rain had slowed to more of a mist than a shower, but now a fog was rolling just above the damp ground. It looked freezing out there, you couldn't imagine how cold it would be tonight. God it was so tempting to text Hange back with some bull shit about a project due Sunday night, but that would be shitty of you. Reluctantly you typed your reply, "yeah of course!" you sent the message and then placed your phone face down on the desk.
There was only about ten minutes left in class, thank God. You risked another glance at Armin's notebook and frowned at the neat handwriting, why was he so neat? It bothered you, you flinched when you heard your phone vibrate on the desk, you quickly picked it up and flipped it over to see the lock screen. You'd gotten a snapchat from Eren, you opened your phone and quickly opened the message. You couldn't help but smile as you looked at the picture, it was dark but you could make out his face and his bright green eyes, the classic text written across your screen made you smile, "what's the move tonight?" . Over the years your house had become known as the party house, due to your mother never being home your older brother had thrown some impressive parties, and you often had your friends over as well, nothing like the events your brother hosted, but still a gathering. You copied Eren's position, bringing your phone beneath the desk to snap a quick picture, and quickly typing back, "going to the game with Hange, Erwin might have something planned I'll be in touch." . You pressed send before you began packing up your things. Eren lifted his head and caught your eyes, you shared an impish grin before you returned your focus to gathering your things. Your teacher closed the powerpoint and began wrapping up class by reminding you about assignments that were due, not that you were listening. Finally only two minutes left, hopefully the rest of the day would go by faster than that class.
______
You bounced your knee anxiously as you watched the clock hands slide sluggishly across the face of the clock, only 15 minutes until the school day ended. You had agreed to meet Hange at her beat up Honda CR-V. You shifted in your seat, your eyes lingered on the window as your Spanish teacher reviewed the key points of her lecture. You could see the parking lot from where you sat, some kids had already slipped out of the building and were running through the rain to get to their cars to beat the traffic. You considered asking to go to the bathroom but decided that you would feel too guilty to skip your sweet Spanish teacher's class. You sat up a bit straighter when you caught the sight of a particular dark haired boy walking briskly across the parking lot. Levi Ackerman, the school's designated bad boy, known for his standoffish behavior and his foul mouth, he was a fiend always ripping a juul and coming to class hungover. Yes he was a bad kid but somehow he had managed to keep his grades up and remain in the top ten percentage of your class. But the strangest thing about him was his unique friendship with your older brother, his complete opposite. You'd known Levi for a long time now, he often came over to your house on the weekdays to work on homework with your brother and then he'd be back on the weekends to drink all of your liquor. You pursed your lips as you watched him climb into his beat up 1981 BMW, he loved that car. You'd only gotten the privilege of riding in it a handful of times but each time he had explicitly told you not to make a mess of his car. You watched him pull out of the parking lot and out onto the campus' main street to get onto the county road that lead to your remote house. You sighed rather loudly as you realized Hange probably invited him over, since they shared a common bond with Erwin they had also grown rather close. You glanced once more at the clock and felt a rush of relief when you saw that the day would be over in precisely three minutes. You quickly threw your things into your backpack and gathered yourself to congregate by the door with your classmates. As you rocked on the balls of your feet you were startled when a heavy hand fell onto your shoulder. You turned around and met Jean's hazel eyes, he left his hand on your shoulder as you turned around to address him. You pulled your ear buds out with a small sigh.
"What's up?" you asked, Jean's cheeks flushed slightly as he realized he had your undivided attention.  You raised an eyebrow, quickly losing patience with the boy.
"Oh I-" he was cut off by the loud ring of the bell, your classmates pushed you out into the already crowded hallway. Jean kept a firm grip on your shoulder as you both rushed into the hallway. You weaved through the crowd with Jean trailing behind you like a small child, he switched his grasp from your shoulder onto your backpack. You felt your lip curl with annoyance as you felt him lagging behind you. Finally you found yourself in a less crowded area where he could switch to your left side, releasing your backpack once he was sure you wouldn't run away.
"Anyway as I was saying... You going to the game tonight?" Jean asked as he matched your pace. You nodded, struggling to wrestle your umbrella out of the side pocket of your backpack. Jean noticed and quickly moved to pull it out for you. You pushed through the front doors of the school and paused under the overhanging roof, Jean pushed the umbrella open and held it up to cover the both of you. You smiled up at him as you both stepped into the rain.
"Yeah I wasn't planning until the second half though." you yelled over the wind as he followed you towards Hange's car. He nodded, daring to look up at the clouds as the wind whipped around the both of you.
"Where you heading to now?" he asked as you reached the parking lot,
"Hange's car, it's the black one over there." you said, lifting your finger to point at her car, you could already see her in the driver's seat scrolling through her phone. Jean nodded and picked up the pace as you hurried through the busy lot. Just as you were about to turn down the row to get to Hange, a car pulled straight out in front of you, a brand new black audi. Jean snarled, leaning forward to pound his fist onto the hood of the car. You laughed at Eren's enraged expression, Mikasa turned and scolded him, while Armin leaned forward from the back seat to wave apologetically to you. You tugged on Jean's arm to get out of the way, as they pulled away Eren stuck up his middle finger to Jean, who kindly returned the gesture. Finally you reached the car, thanking Jean, you let him keep your umbrella since he had gone so far out of his way to walk with you. You waved goodbye to him as you settled into the passenger seat. Hange raised an eyebrow, you blushed slightly offended that she would think that you would ever give Jean the time of day.
"What? I hate when you make that face." you giggled as she wiggled her eyebrows and put the car in drive. Getting off of campus took about 15 minutes due to the heavy traffic, it was only a good 20 minute drive to get to your house. Your school was located in a small town, mostly made up of farmers, factory workers, and other small business owners. You lived out in the woods, your house tucked nicely behind a thick wall of oak trees and the occasional walnut. Hence why it was such a hot party spot, your driveway was long  and winding through the trees, just off of the county road. Hange turned up her music as you pulled off campus and onto the road. You felt the stress slowly falling off of your shoulders as you got further away from the school. You focused on the colorful trees and the houses that blurred by. Hange's phone rang, interrupting the music, she unplugged it from the aux and wordlessly handed it to you. Without looking at the name you answered.
"Hello, uh this is (Y/n) Hange's driving, can I take a messge?" you said, looking at Hange for support, but her eyes were glued to the road.
"Tch, yeah you tell her that if she doesn't hurry up and get here I am going to freeze my ass off in this weather." you blinked, surprised to hear Levi's monotone voice on the other side of the phone.
"Be there in 5." you said returning his clipped tone. With that you hung up, wanting to have the pleasure of ending the call before he could. Hange glanced over a smile spreading across her face.
"Maybe he shouldn't have left school so early if he didn't want to wait on us huh?" she joked, jabbing her elbow playfully into your bicep.
"Yeah" you huffed as you watched the suburban scenery melt into the more remote countryside that you called home. The manicured lawns morphed into golden fields of corn pastures with cows out grazing. Finally you turned onto your road and you reached into your bag to pull out your house key. You knew that if you spent extra time fishing out the key in front of Levi he would probably hit you. Don't ask how you knew that. Hange turned onto your driveway and pulled up to your garage. Levi's car was parked off to the side under your basketball hoop like usual.
Hange pulled right up beside him, leaning over to wave enthusiastically at him. He barely spared her a glance before climbing out of his car. You and Hange followed suit, you didn't bother greeting Levi, having learned a long time ago that he wouldn't return the sentiment. Instead you focused on making it to the front door before Levi so you could open the door without having to worry about him kicking out your knees or something. He liked to pick on you, especially when Erwin wasn't around. It didn't bother you much but it was annoying, you were used to your brother picking on you in a similar manner so you weren't very surprised when Levi picked up the habit as well.
You quickly unlocked the door and pushed into your house. You kicked your shoes off and dropped your bag before shooting upstairs to your room to change. The game didn't start until 7:00 which gave you about 4 hours until you would leave here. Plenty of time to make cookies and prep the house for whatever would be going on tonight. Just when you were taking your shirt off to slip on an older shirt that you wouldn't mind getting dirty, you heard a crash downstairs. You froze in your tracks, a loud groan and then the sound of Hange's manic laughter floated up the stairs, filling the silence of your house.
You groaned, pulling the shirt on, not bothering with a bra, and a pair of sweatpants you quickly made your way down the stairs. You frowned when you walked into the kitchen and found Levi staring in horror at the sight of pumpkin puree spilled all over the floor. Hange was doubled over, pointing at the mess as she cackled, "It looks like barf!" she howled as she leaned against the counter for support. You couldn't help but crack a smile at Levi's horrified face as he quickly left the kitchen, no doubt in search of a mop. Despite his careless attitude he actually did care about maybe three main things, 1.) having clean surroundings, 2.) keeping a full stock of weed, or some other means of getting intoxicated, and finally 3.) getting occasional pussy.
At least that's what you figured to be his top priorities. Maybe you could put defending his friends honor in there somewhere, but that usually was followed by him degrading them himself. For example if someone was talking trash about Erwin, Levi would beat the shit out of them and then precede to tell Erwin later that afternoon that his face looked like a butt. You blinked as you watched Levi return with a mop and a bucket of sudsy water, You bent down with a paper towel to pick up the majority of the puree before Levi scrubbed the wood floors of your farmhouse style kitchen. Hange turned an excused herself to go to the bathroom as you both cleaned the mess. You felt a surge of panic rise in your chest when you realized that you would be alone with Levi.
You swallowed nervously as you eyed his feet that were much too close to your face, he wore a pair of plain white socks, so at least it wouldn't be his usual steel toed combat boots. He noticed your uneasy expression and the way you put some pep in your step in picking up the mess. As you dropped the soiled paper towels into the trash bin you took note of Levi's outfit. He wore a pair of stylish ripped jeans that were a lighter wash they hung loosely off his hips. You noted a worn black belt kept his pants secured and for a moment the thought of Levi's pants falling off his hips made you smirk. You allowed your eyes to pass over his midsection that was clad in a plain white t-shirt and layered with a thin yellow plaid over-shirt. You smiled, you knew for a fact that he had thrifted all of these clothes and probably altered them himself. He had gotten better at sewing over the years. He finished mopping up the mess, you quickly averted your gaze when he looked up at you. You pretended to be busy gathering the ingredients, pulling out a jar full of flour as Levi stooped to pick up the bucket and dump the small amount of dirty water into the sink. He leaned against the porcelain farm sink as he ran hot water to clean the large sink. You could feel his eyes on your back as you reached into the pantry, sliding the barn door back so you could grab your apron. You fumbled with the ties on the back of your neck, feeling self conscious under Levi's hot gaze. You finally managed to tie off the strings, you heard Levi shut the water off and head off down the hallway to put the bucket and mop away. Just after Levi left you heard the toilet flush and Hange returned, stretching she sighed, a content smile on her face.
"Why were you gone so long?" you asked, almost immediately regretting your question.
"Took the fattest shit in my whole life, I wouldn't go in there if I was you." Hange chuckled as you watched her grab your mother's apron and effortlessly tie it around her waist and neck. You cringed, "At least light a candle or something." you murmured as you continued setting out ingredients.
"Oh don't worry I sprayed lots of air freshener." Hange said nodding proudly as she began preparing the wet ingredients. Levi stalked back into the kitchen and plopped down on the opposite side of the island in one of the barstools. Lazily he pulled out his phone and connected to the speaker in your kitchen. He scrolled through his phone for a minute before he finally picked a song, you immediately recognized the band Cigarettes After Sex. You fell into an easy pace with Hange as you both moved through the kitchen, after you made the dough you let Hange set about baking the cookies. Meanwhile you began to make a simple vegetable soup that you could put in thermoses and take to the game.
Also you knew that it made Erwin happy when you brought him dinner after his games. You set out your cutting board and began chopping a carrot, your fingers curled into a bear claw as you moved the knife up and down. You slid the chopped carrot into the pot and then diced an onion, and some broccoli. You also took the liberty of chopping up a stalk of celery and adding a can of diced tomatoes. Finally you added some water and chicken broth before letting it heat up on the stove. By the time you'd finished the soup Hange has finished most of the cookies, all the while Levi had sat on his phone, occasionally throwing in some advice. You leaned against the counter and wiped your hands down your apron as you considered the spices you wanted to add to the soup. You reached for your phone and began responding to your messages. Hange dusted her hands off on her apron as well and came over to watch you on your phone, her head resting on your shoulder. You opened a snapchat from Eren, who was currently at the game, he sent you a winky face in response to your snap from earlier that day. You couldn't help the smile that spread across your face, Eren was undoubtedly cute, charming even. But you knew better than to jump on that train, he was a bit of a hot head and besides, Mikasa obviously had a major crush on him. Hange gasped when she saw the picture of Eren cheekily sticking his tongue out and the winky face emoji. She turned, gripping your shoulders in a vice, "Huh?! What the fuck is that? Eren Jaeger?!" Hange gasped as she shook you. Levi perked up slightly, interested in the sudden commotion.
"Wh-What? Oh god no Mikasa would have my head, he just snapchats like that, don't worry about it!" you said, flailing your arms in hopes of loosening Hange's death grip. Instead she tightened her grasp, "What a shame, you really should start seeing people, I'm getting worried for you." Hange said with a sigh as she let you go. You furrowed your brows, slightly offended by her words. "I... see people." the last words slipped past your lips barely above a whisper. Levi scoffed, rolling his eyes he stood abruptly and walked around the island. Both Hange and you widened your eyes as you watched him approach the cookies, he carefully selected one of the frosted ones and took a bite. You waited for him to finish chewing, he looked back at you, his gaze steady on the both of you. "Stay away from that fool, he's no good he'll only drag you down." Levi said with a shrug before padding off into your living room and dropping down onto your couch. Hange looked at you with wide eyes, her mouth slightly open, "What's gotten into him?" she whispered as you gently slid past her to check on your soup. You simply shrugged, a bit thrown off by Levi's words. Eren was your friend you liked spending time with him and you sure as well weren't about to stop because Levi told you to. You stirred your soup, pleased to see that it was finished, you set about filling the three thermoses that you had, meanwhile Hange was packaging the cookies. Levi was still on the couch, slumped down low enough that you could just see the top of his dark hair. You glanced at the clock, and then back at your phone, you had no idea where they were in the game, so you decided to give Eren a call to see where they were at. You called him over snapchat, the phone only ringing twice before he picked up. You began to pace the kitchen as you listened to Eren fumble with his phone.
"H-Hey (Y/n), what's up?" he said over the roar of the game.
"Oh nothing much I just finished making dinner and I was wondering what the game was looking like." you said brushing some hair off your face.
"Oh yeah yeah of course, we just got a touch down, and halftime just started." he said, his voice clearer now, he must have left the bleachers you thought to yourself.
"Perfect, I'll be there in 30, save me a seat?" you asked sweetly, a smile warming your features.
"Anything for you." his voice lowered in pitch and you couldn't help but blush a bit, you and Eren had always had good banter between the two of you but in the recent months you'd noticed a palpable tension arising. You giggled, brushing off his suggestive tone, "I'll see you soon Eren." you said, pulling the phone away from your ear and hanging up. Hange smirked at you as she pulled the apron off of herself. You noticed that Levi had sat up a bit on the couch, he was giving you major side eye. You smiled at Hange, deciding you'd ask her if she knew what Erwin planned to do after the game.
"So Hange, do you know if Erwin was having people over after the game?" you ask partially wanting to change the subject, and partially wanting to know if you could have an excuse to have Eren over. Hange shrugged, a thoughtful look passing over her sharp features, "I suppose so, not a lot though just Mike, Nanaba, Petra, Eld, maybe Oulou? Bah I couldn't say." she said shaking her head in frustration. You knew that Hange was a forgetful person so you weren't expecting much. Levi huffed from across the room, he noticed the gears turning in your head, the way your cheeks blushed slightly. You were surely planning something.
"Why do you ask?" Levi arched a thin brow at you as you turned to face him.
"Just wondering if that meant I could have some of my friends over." the truth, but you were hoping for more than just a friendly interaction. Levi noticed the way you bit your lip and your ears turned a bit pink. Levi had seen all he needed to see, he turned his attention back to his phone, disregarding you. He vaguely caught bits of your conversation with Hange, something about changing, and getting ready and then the two of you hurried upstairs to your room. You were only upstairs for fifteen minutes before you came back down, Hange wore a pair of ripped jeans and one of Erwin's football sweatshirts. You on the other hand wore a pair of black nike leggings, the fabric could almost be described as shiny because of how clean they were, you wore an emerald green crew neck, the sweater was clearly something you'd thrifted, it had a brown teddy bear in the middle. Levi couldn't help but scoff at the sight, you reminded him of a grandma. You tugged at your sweater a bit self conscious under Levi's scrutinizing gaze.
"I'll drive." Levi said, his tone clipped. Hange shrugged, a light in her eyes as she spun her own keychain on her index finger. Levi narrowed his eyes at the brunette, remembering all the times when they had fought about who got to drive. Luckily Hange wasn't in much of a fighting mood, so she simply shrugged and pocketed her keys. You swiped your own keychain off the counter and stuffed them into your small purse. You rocked on your heels as you waited for the older teens to gather themselves. Hange was slipping on her beat up tennis shoes, while Levi stooped down to pull on his Vans. You shifted impatiently on your nike airs, Levi squinted in disgust when he took in the appearance of your old nikes, they weren't very white anymore. He figured he'd find some excuse to berate you on this topic later. He finally stood up and made his way out the door before you and Hange without a word. You all piled into his old BMW, Hange in the front and you in the back.
Thankfully the rain had let up and the clouds had drifted on to leave the night sky clear, the moon illuminating the road as you drove. You gripped the edge of your leather seat anxiously, you didn't like Levi's driving, he drove 20 over the speed limit no matter what road you were on. He blared classic rock and other alternative music, which wasn't the problem, just you could never hear what other people were saying over the loud noise. Finally your car ride came to an end and before you knew it you were paying for tickets and making your way towards the bleachers. You pulled out a thermos and handed it to Hange, "Here this is for you to share, and take these too!" you shoved a baggie of cookies into her hands as well before slipping into a throng of people before they could say anything more to you. Eren had told you where to meet him Armin, and Mikasa. You found them loitering by the bottom of the bleachers, you came up behind Armin and pulled him into a hug from behind. He yelped in surprise and wriggled in your grasp.
"Hey guys" you said, your tone raising a bit in the presence of your friends.
"Hey (Y/n)! When did you get here?" Armin asked as he turned just enough to return your embrace.
"Oh just now." you said sweetly as you then moved to hug Mikasa, you skipped Eren though, feeling a bit awkward with Mikasa's heavy gaze hitting your back. But you were pleased to see the disappointment in his eyes when you skipped over him.
"How's the game going?" you asked lightly as you turned your attention to the empty field.
"Good, we're winning! Your brother is playing well!" Armin said as he pointed at the score board.
"Yeah, he took out one of the other teams defensive players." Mikasa said, nodding her head across the field to where a player was sat on the ground with trainers surrounding him. You raised an eyebrow, Erwin usually didn't do that much damage, he must've been pissed.
"Interesting, well do you guys want to head to our seats? Looks like they're getting ready to start." you asked, they nodded and the four of you climbed the cold bleachers. They led you to a pretty remote section, just off the side to the student section which was bustling with your loud classmates. You settled into your seat on the end, Armin seated next to you, Eren in the middle of Mikasa and Armin. You rubbed your hands together and blew a breath of hot air onto your palms. The game was about to start, the players fanning out and back into their positions. You spotted Erwin in the thick of all the players, he reached out and shook one of his team mates by his helmet. A smile easily slid on your lips as you watched your brother settle into the play. You loved your big brother and you were glad to so him succeed in what he loved. Just as the game was about to begin you felt your phone buzz in your pocket. You fumbled to answer it, worried about who could be calling you.
"Hey (Y/n) where did you run off to? I was hoping you'd sit with me, Levi is being awful!" you immediately recognized Hange's voice, and you felt for her you really did, but you were not in the mood to deal with Levi.
"Ew, I'm definitely not sitting with you if he's causing trouble." you joked, but your words held a semblance of truth. Hange groaned and then yelpd, the sound of her phone hitting the ground made you wince. Finally you heard her breathing again, guessing she had managed to recover her phone.
"Hurry please, in the back top right section, he's getting physical." Hange said, hanging up before you could argue. You noticed all of your friends were watching you with curious gazes.
"Want to go sit with Hange and Levi? We can hash out some plans for tonight?" you asked desperately not wanting to sit alone with Hange and Levi right now. Eren raised an eyebrow but nodded in agreement. You knew that was all you needed for Mikasa and Armin to agree as well. But it didn't escape you how Mikasa's eyes darkened at the mention of Levi. You vaguely recalled being hammered one night, laying on the ground with Eren, and you remembered someone tugging you to your feet. It was Levi, he was pulling you back towards your brother and his friends, but you wanted to stay with Mikasa and Eren. Mikasa had come to your rescue and surprisingly given Levi a solid punch to the jaw. He snarled but didn't move to defend himself, instead he had stalked off into the group of older kids. This memory reminded you that when Mikasa and Levi were in the same space they tended to bump heads. You felt slightly guilty knowing you were putting her in a bit of an awkward situation but at the same time you knew Levi would be uncomfortable too which would hopefully prevent him from bothering anyone. With everyone in agreement you all gathered your things and quickly climbed the bleachers to the mostly empty top right section. Sure enough you could see Levi with his arms crossed and a sour pout on his face. Hange's shoulders sagged with relief at the sight of your crew. You waved as you approached, a smile on your lips, you let Eren sit next to Levi and Mikasa next to Eren and then Armin on the end. Hange scooted over to make space between herself and Levi, which you eyed skeptically, it would've been easier for you to sit next to Armin, but you complied. You drew in on yourself, pressing your right side into Hange's left to avoid Levi. A memory flashed across your mind of you getting too close to Levi and him literally shoving you out of his space. You were not in a hurry to see if that had changed. Levi scowled at you, his cinder eyes catching your (e/c) ones momentarily before you averted your gaze back to the game. Hange threw an arm around you and drew you closer, her eyes analyzing the play that your team was about to make. Levi noticed the way the tension left your shoulders as Hange pulled you flush against her, giving Levi plenty of space. Instead of appreciating your respect of his personal space Levi only felt more annoyed. Just as he was finally managing to focus on the game you turned and leaned over to look around him.
"I'm feeling like watching a movie." you said, Eren also leaned forward and smiled.
"Same here, I brought some wine, we can watch a horror movie and get wine drunk." he said, you nodded enthusiastically.
"Yeah I cleaned the basement the other day so you guys can go crazy upstairs and we'll stay downstairs." you said, this time directed at Hange. The brunette raised an eyebrow, "If that's what you want, Mike was going to bring his pong table and Nanaba is bringing some good games." Hange said, a skeptical look on her face.
"Maybe we'll come up after the movie?" you said, glancing at your friends for back up. They all nodded and then you all turned your eyes back to the game as the whistle blew shrilly. You noticed that your team had scored and you also took note of one of the opposing players gripping his ankle as he rolled in the grass. Trainers and coaches rushed over to aid the player as your brother fled the scene, his face grim as he went to join his team in a huddle. You sat forward with Hange as you watched one of the reffs storm over. You blinked as you watched the reff scold your brother and point towards the bench, the head coach quickly came to your brother's defense and fired back at the reff.
"Something's wrong, why is he being so aggressive tonight?" Hange asked, looking to you. All you could do was shrug and frown as you watched the reff storm back onto the field. You were so engrossed in the game that you forgot to mind Levi, who unlike you, was completely disinterested in the game. He noticed how close your knee was to his own and took advantage, he reached over and closed his fingers around your knee and squeezed. You yelped, at the pinch, a cow bite, one of your least favorite and dirtiest moves that Levi pulled on you. You glared at him as you rubbed the sides of your knee tenderly. Levi met your eyes and cocked his eyebrow, a false mask of innocence on his features. Hange spared the two of your worried glance, but ended up only feeling relieved that it wasn't her this time. You narrowed your eyes, a small warning to leave you alone, one that you were certain he would ignore. You turned back to the game, determined to watch the last half of the game. Levi turned to also face the field, but still kept an eye out for you, it wasn't often you would let him pull something like that. You cheered when a point was scored by Erwin, Levi watched as you rose to your feet with Hange and the other dorks, all screaming your heads off. Levi took this moment to shuffle over a few inches, so when you sat down you would be slightly closer. As predicted you sat down and as soon as you felt his thigh brush against your own. Levi reached into his pocket and pulled out his juul to take a hit,  he lifted the juul to his lips and felt pleased to know he had at least half of your attention as you watched out of the corner of your eye. He blew the vapor out of his nose and wordlessly offered you the juul. You eyed it for a moment before taking it , you coughed when you inhaled too much, the smoke billowing out of your mouth. Hange frowned when she saw you fall into a coughing fit.
"Erwin is going to kill you if you get his sister addicted to nicotine." Hange scolded as she watched Levi take another hit.
"He'll get over it." Levi grunted as he stood and stretched, the game was ending and he wanted to beat the traffic. You looked up, still fighting back some coughs, Eren was laughing at you and Mikasa had a small smile, Armin looked sympathetic.
"You leaving?" you asked, your voice gravely from coughing up your lung. Levi nodded and shoved his hands in his front pockets.
"Back to my house?" it was more of a statement than a question.
"Yeah wanna come?" he asked, you looked to Hange who shrugged.
"Yeah good idea you two go on ahead and set up things for the party." Hange agreed, quickly turning her attention back to the last minutes of the game. Levi scoffed and then lumbered down the bleachers, not waiting for you as you checked with your friends.
"Go, we need to drop by the liquor store anyway for some Smirnoff's." Eren dismissed with a wave of his hand and with that you followed Levi down the stairs.

MASTERLIST
------------------------------------------------------
September
"When do we have our first interview?" you asked the boy whose head was in your lap. He looked up from his phone and your eyes locked with his green ones "Hmm, my calendar says in about 30 minutes."
You groaned at that and stopped playing with Charlie's hair which earned you a grunt and whine from him. "Sorry babe but I think I have to go, so I still have time to get ready and set up." You muttered and gave him a small kiss on his brown hair.
"Uhh fine." The weight lifted from your legs, you stood up and before you knew it you were thrown over his shoulder. Laughing, you slapped his butt and back repeatedly. "Babe! I mean it" you tried to press out between giggles, "we both decided to keep us a secret." He sat you down on the kitchen isle and cornered your body in between his arms, standing right in front of you, you're back hitting the kitchen cabinet.
"I know... come back later?" he asked and tilted his head, looking at you with big puppy eyes. "You know it." After a swift kiss, or rather a little make out session, you were on your way back to your own appartement. Just in time to change your top and put on a lip-gloss before opening your laptop and joining the interview.
"Hello everybody! I'm here with the cast of Netflix' Julie and the Phantoms that came out on Thursday. How are you guys?" the interviewer asked and smiled into the camera of his laptop. The whole cast chirped in with a good, great, or amazing.
"That's fantastic!" he clapped his hands "Now, Jeremy, how would you describe your Character and the show in general?"
"It's a show about ghosts from 1995 who come back 25 years later and join a band with Julie who didn't sing a note after her mother died. Reggie, the character that I play, is one of those ghosts and he is a loveable himbo. Did I use that word correctly Maddie?"
Maddie smiled and the interviewer changed the topic "Madison and y/n, birds have told me that this was your first ever acting job is that right?"
You nodded and signaled Maddie to speak first "Yes, and it was both amazing and traumatizing! I was so nervous, but the crew really helped to calm me down, especially y/n who just was in the same position as me, so we freaked out together most of the time." She smiled and the interviewer waited for you to answer. "Except, Maddie had a least some acting training at school, that's why she is the best. I more or less walked into the whole situation." You said laughing.
"I love this story." Jeremy exclaimed, making you slightly blush at his words.
"Would you be so kind and tell us?" the interviewer questioned and smiled at your little nod.
"Yes, yes of course. Well, I was on vacation with one of my good friends from back home..."
"She means Germany." Owen interrupted with a smile on his lips. "Yes, Owen. Thank you for adding important details. Anyways, we saw that there was an Open Audition nearby and though why not? We don't have anything to lose or to do on that particular day. And here I am, my friend sadly didn't get in."
"That really is an amazing story, I can see why Jeremy likes it so much. So, Charlie how would you describe y/n's and Luke's characters, she wasn't supposed to be in the script and was later added in right?" Charlie quirked up at the mention of your name and stated proudly. "Indeed, she impressed Kenny so much that he wrote a character just for her. He thought that Sunset Curve, the band name before we died, needed a female to handle their chaos or well... at least tries to. Y/N plays Allie, who against common speculation isn't any of the boys' love interest which is a very nice turn of events. She and Luke bud head a lot because Luke only thinks about music and the band and she tries hard to make him take breaks every now and then."
A lovesick smile sat on your face while you listened to your boyfriend of nearly a year, once you realized your expression you quickly shook it off. Hiding this relationship was definitely going to be harder than expected.
The Interviewer asked some more questions before the last and dreaded question was thrown your way. "So, most of your fans are wondering if any of you guys are in a relationship." You and Charlie had discussed a million times before what you guys would say in such a moment, the two of you shared a look.
Jeremy's eyes switched from Charlie's box on his screen to y/n's before answering "I have a lovely wife! The rest of us are happily single, right guys?"
"100%" Maddie added, while Owen only shrugged, his dog conveniently jumping into his lap.
"How about the other two?" he eyed up the last remaining.
"Very single" Charlie laughed, and you agreed "Totally."
As time went on it was harder and harder for the two of you to hide the relationship, as you two spent nearly every day together and therefore did the same activities. Particularly after your social media accounts have gained over a million followers and people started to ship actors and tv show characters. But you two loved the little secret bubble you've created, there was no pressure to take good pictures together, or to post stories, to be asked a thousand questions about your relationship and no hate towards any of you.
December
It has been 4 months since the show released and the hype it got definitely was way more than you ever expected. It blew your mind. Currently, you are on Charlie and yours one-year anniversary / Christmas / good deeds vacation. Charlie and you found a good mix, that made you both happy, between chilling and doing adventurous things.
It was Christmas eve and Maddie wanted to do a 'guess the song Christmas Edition' with the main cast. Eagerly you agreed and hurried from the beach, where Charlie currently took the quiz at the bar you both sat on just minutes before, to your shared bedroom. You shot Maddie a quick text that you were 'out of the relationship zone' and ready when she was ready.
"Helloooo. How did the others do?"
"Not the worst but I still have faith in you to win this. ARE YOU READY?" she screamed the last part.
“I’m going to read you the lyrics of a christmas song and you have to guess the next line. There are certain cards that give one point and others give two. Whoever has the most points at the end…”
“Hopefully get your earrings” you asked with a sly smile and your shoulders raised.
Maddie laughed but shook her head “Sadly, no. I haven't figured out the price yet, but I for sure will! I like your backdrop by the way.” she added and you quickly looked behind you. You sat crisscrossed on the hotel room floor, you used the coffee table and a water bottle as a phonestand and used a white checkered wall as a background to try and hide the fact that you didn't sit in your living room.
January
“This should be the last box.” you cheered into the empty hall and shut the front door with a light push from your hip. Charlie popped his head out of the bedroom and walked over to, dropping his head on your shoulder in exhaustion. Nothing was set up, boxes stood randomly all over the apartment, the fridge stood there still empty and a lonely mattress covered the bedroom floor.
“The walls look a bit bare don't you think?” you said about a week later, standing in the middle of the now a bit furnished living room. Strong arms sneaked their way around your waist and a head dropped on your shoulder.
“Hmm… you're right. What do you have in mind?” Charlie said and turned you around so you were facing him. He smiled at the spark in your eyes “I was thinking, a yellow akzent wall with random secondhand pictures and some pictures of us, all in frames of course. So it's gonna have this homey and creative atmosphere.” You rambled on for a while longer, telling him where you think his instruments could go, the pillows you saw online and thought they worked perfect with the colour of the couch. Charlie just stared at you, a dumb smile on his lips with his arms around you.
“Do you not like it?” you noticed that he hasn't talked for a while and got worried. “I love it. We could live in a dumpster for all I care, as long as I have you by my side.” You fake gaged at his romantic words and gave him a kiss.
The first time people got really suspicious was the time you accidentally walked in on a live he had on Instagram. He sat in front of his instruments, phone propped up before him. You thought that he was already finished but you were wrong.
“Do you think this…” you walked into the room, a shirt in your hand that you just took out of the dryer and lost your words the moment you saw him sitting in front of his phone. He looked at you with wide eyes, his brain clearly searching for a good excuse.
“Is that y/n?” he read outloud from the chat, gesturing you do sit next to him. “Yes it's her! We’re hanging out and she helped me with my washing because I somehow still don't know how to do it.” he laughed nervously, his hand grabbing yours out of the frame.
“He promised me food and I live really close by, so I thought I'll help this poor man out.”
May
Looking back at this moment now, you and Charlie weren't sure why you just didn't come clean. You didn't mean to hide the relationship this long, it just kinda happened and at one point it just got too awkward to tell. It was fairly easy to hide most of the time, you didn't most that much on instagram and Charlie only showed parts of his daily life.
The easiest was the time you filmed JATP Season 2. You were expected to hang out and live together. Back in 2019 you already lived with Owen and Charlie. This time poor Owen had to live with a couple instead of just two friends. (You were already dating for a while back then but didn't tell the cast, to not make a fuss.)
It wasn't like the fans didn't suspect a thing, especially after Owen posted a video of you two fooling around.
Everybody sat outside, enjoying the everwarming sun on their skin. Half of the cast was already in costume just waiting for the break to end. In typical Allie (your character) fashion you wore an overall with a tight tank top underneath, your makeup stood out from the others with the heavy blush, freckles and black eyeliner.
Charlie, in his Luke wardrobe, thought that it was funny to stand in front of you to shield you from the sun.
"Stop that" you whined and tried to shove him away, which was harder than you thought considering he stood before you and you sat on a bench.
"Make me." He flirted and stood even wider before you, puffing out his chest. Raising an unimpressed eyebrow, you stole his beany with a swift motion. His expresion quickly changed from cocky to shocked, snickering was heard from Maddie who was used to this type of behaviour.
"Ups… heavy wind blows in the shadows." You explained nonchalantly and pulled the beany on your head, sticking your tongue out at your boyfriend.
"Oh it's on my lady" he growled "I'm giving you a three second advantage. One…" your eyes widened and your heart rate picked up. "Two…" you got up and scanned the place internally making a good running line. "Th-.." you began sprinting across the lot. You heard the laughing from your castmates behind you as you and Charlie ran in circles.
Unfortunately, he was still fitter and faster than you and about a minute into the running he had you thrown over his shoulder.
"Surrender!" he screamed as you tried to wiggle out of his grip.
"Never!" You screamed back and wiggled even harder.
"Surrender or i'll have to tickle you" he warned and those were the last words Owen was able to film before a producer yelled that the break was finished.
February
“Baby, if I would believe this News Article, you have a secret girlfriend, but it's not me.” you showed him your phone screen.
“I’m not cheating on you. I would never, i'd die rather than…” his frantic expression made you snort. “I know. Oh my god! People saw you with Lia.” you held his hands comfortably.
“Lia as in your best friend Lia?”
“The one and only. People noticed the hickeys... At least they’re getting closer now. So are we still on for the masterplan? You by instruments and I'm gonna sit in the bedroom?" He nodded and smiled at the sight of your equally plastered neck.
Eventually, before you even were able to execute the as you'd like to say 'masterplan' your relationship got outed. I mean it was time, the two of you getting lazier with the hiding as time went by.
Fans noticed that you wore a lot of Charlie's things and that you and him always seemed to be at the same place at the same time. It was actually one of your lives that spilled the secret.
"That's a really nice akzent wall" you read outloud from the chat "oh thank you! It was a long process to get all the pictures but it was actually Charlie's idea to not only have pictures but also plane tickets, date memories and so on hung up on that wall. It really makes it homey. I think to get that wall this crowded it took us...what? About well since we moved in…" you didn't even realise what you said you just babbled and then it was out.
"Charlie actually is home! I could call him. Babe! Come here for a sec- oh my god!" Your hands flew up to your mouth in realizion.
From that moment on you were public and your social media exploded once again. However the two of you were happy to finally show each other off.

Queen Bree HC please for dad Ethan and literally everyone drooling for him. And of course, Lilac, too.
Anon, thank you so much for this! I hope I did okay!
First Grade Field Trip (Headcanons)
Tumblr media
It's ridiculous how many PTA parents and teachers try to persuade him to chaperone the field trip to the kids' museum
The morning of, Lilac teases him and tells him it's because he's too good looking for his own good
Ethan has gotten better about teasing her back throughout the years so he pulls her to him from behind and kisses her neck. Then, he tells her, "I'd ask you to go instead but some of those parents are just as crazy about you."
Lilac rolls her eyes and teases, "So you're taking the bullet for me? What a gentleman."
But little Dolores, nicknamed Lolly, is at the table, eating the pancakes her mother made (because her father is good at a lot of things but NOT making pancakes.) She hears her father suggest that her mom go to the field trip instead
And no offense to her mom but she prefers it so much better when her dad goes
"You have to come with us, Dad!" she protests. "No one explains the science displays better than you."
Lilac feigns offense but she gets it. Ethan used to take her on museum dates all the time and whenever she wasn't trying to distract him with very passionate make-out sessions, she did find his insight interesting.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," Ethan assures her, ruffling her hair slightly. "If I'm not there to explain the difference in Upper Jurassic rock formations, then who? Noah's dad?"
Father and daughter snort at that ridiculous notion.
They spend the next fifteen minutes fixing and packing their lunch (brie cheese, baguetta, crackers, prosciutto, cashews, cucumbers, grapes, dried apricots, and chocolate-covered cherries. Ethan calls it a charcuterie to-go. Lilac calls it grown-up Lunchables.)
While Lilac drops the twins off at day care and heads into work, Ethan, Jonah, and Dolores set off to school.
The effect is immediate when they arrive.
Ethan rarely drops the kids off but when he does, he attracts attention.
Jonah is used to it and only sighs
Dolores wonders why everyone looks at her Dad with such interest.
Ethan is lasered focused on dropping his son off at his classroom before he meets Lolly's class by the buses.
Jonah's teacher actually chokes on her coffee when she sees Ethan. She recovers hastily, though her face is bright red and she stumbles on her words.
Lolly's teacher is much older, and as such, much subtler. Though Ethan has caught her quietly assessing him with approval.
They board the bus and Ethan is way too tall for it. He would have preferred to drive to the museum but his daughter insisted they go on the bus. And who can say no to the face?
Lolly sits with her friend, Charlotte, and Ethan has to find a seat nearby.
Several of the single moms look up hopefully.
One even makes her kid find a different seat.
Ethan finds an empty row and much to his relief, another parent (Noah's dad) comes to his rescue by sitting next to him. It turns out the guy is actually pretty decent.
But Ethan's worries are far from over.
The single moms follow him like vultures, feigning interest as he explains the Muscular System in the rock climbing section.
“It was awful nice of you to help us chaperone,” one of them says when she manages to get his attention at lunch.
Ethan doesn't smile, merely nods once. “My wife was busy today, otherwise it would have been her.”
The woman bristles slightly at the mention of his wife. Which is ridiculous because the gossip among the parents is widespread. Everyone knows Lilac and Ethan are happily married.
“There's nothing that comes before my children. I have to ensure their safety during field trips.”
Ethan doesn't miss the implication.
“I understand,” he returns dryly. “But then again, you're not a world renowned doctor who has to meet a deadline for her upcoming book.”
“Yeah,” Dolores adds cheerfully from a seat nearby. “Mommy is famous!”
The PTA mom, whose name Ethan did not bother to catch, gives them a forced, almost pained smile before getting lost.
Despite the speed at which gossip travels, some of his admirers are not deterred by the less than pleasant encounter.
One of them catches Ethan by surprise when she compliments his hair.
Ethan doesn't breathe a sigh of relief until later that day, when they're finally back at home recounting their day to Lilac.
“Oh!” Dolores adds as the excited conversation draws to a lull. “Jenny's mom told Daddy she liked his hair.”
Lilac raises an eyebrow. “Did she now?”
Ethan blushes.
“Yeah! She said it like you say it sometimes.”
Seductively. But Lolly is too young to know that.
Lilac lifts her gaze to meet Ethan's.
“And what did Daddy say?”
“He said 'thank you!'” Lolly supplies.
Ethan opens his mouth to explain under Lilac's expectant gaze.
“I was... not expecting that. It caught me off guard.”
Lilac's eyebrows only climb higher up her forehead.
Later when Lolly goes off to play with her siblings, Lilac says, “Jenny's mom is desperate.”
“It was—”
“And a liar.”
“Pardon?”
“Your hair is ridiculous.”
Ethan blinks.
Then he smirks.
He can tell she's joking, but despite the jest, she is still a tiny bit jealous. With a laugh, he pulls her close, her back against his chest. “That’s not what you said last night.”
“I say a lot of things when my mind is elsewhere.”
“Namely on my mouth and what it had the pleasure of doing.”
She turns in his embrace, finally joining in his laughter.
He kisses her because she's crazy if she thinks there'd ever be anyone else
Notes: LMAO this might as well have been a fic. Oh well. I don’t know how to do HC and that this point I’m afraid to ask.
Thank you for reading if you made it this far!

Answering asks in regards to my recent post about shipping
Ok, so I got a few asks which I think are all responses to my recent post How much do we really know?
I got a few others but these are the ones I am choosing to reply to.
If you follow me and have done so for a while you probably understood my post already, and thus most of these replies might not be that interesting to my general readers. This for the most part just a reply to explain the points I felt got completely misunderstood by these particular anons. But I also go through some others that asks as well. Those will be at the bottom of the post if you want to skip the explenations.
Here goes. So the first ask I got was this:
Anonymous asked:
You mentioned in a post that during the billboard Vlive V suggested that him and Jimin “sleep together casually.” But the very next day Jimin said in a press conference that he was with JK all night and cried with him over the #1 spot. Do you think you ignore things JM says or does to fit your Vmin narrative? There just seems to be a big confirmation bias. A lot of your evidence seems to come from V’s songs but that’s entirely your analysis based off your perception of their relationship. (Not that I don’t agree with you on some of it.) How do you step back and look at things unbiasedly or rationally?
First of all, yes I did mention this but I didn't say that Jimin and Taehyung slept together that particular time/day. I am not 100% sure the post you read was the "How much do we really know?" but if it was, I said this:
"....or that Vmin seem to casually sleep together in private (if we take Tae’s words for it in the Billboard vlive)..."
Meanwhile in that vlive this is what Taehyung said.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I told him to sleep next to me" followed by "...as he's too lazy to come to my place" it makes it sound like they normally would have gone to either place to sleep together, but both were too lazy to do so this time. Thus they didn't sleep together this instance, but the way Tae talks makes it sound like they casually ask each other to sleep together at times and like it almost was a given that one of them go to the other.
Worth noting is also that the way Taehyung says it (though there is always room for error since I don't speak Korean) it seems he was asking Jimin to come over first, and he wasn't even aware of the Billboard result. He also asked Jimin to do this on JK's birthday, so clrealy it didn't seem like a big deal at least from Tae's side to ask Jimin to come over to him on this particular day.
What I said in my post applies even if they didn't do it that day. Because it doesn't matter if Jimin went in the end or not, Tae still "casually" asked Jimin to come to his place to sleep.
You can look at the whole vlive (1st in BILLBOARD! Gather ARMY!) from September 1st 2020 and get your own understanding, it's not that long and it's full of cute moments.
But if we get into Ji/kook a little bit, the way I understood the situation from what they said is that of course yes, Jimin did tell JK about it. He said as much and of course I will believe him when he says it.
Tumblr media
I never said that Jimin didn't say this, so I don't understand how my post would in any way imply that I ignore what Jimin says or does to fit a Vmin narrative. I didn't even mention Jimin, because it wasn't what I was talking about. Jimin's situation didn't matter in that context, just that Tae asked Jimin to come sleep with him.
Sadly I can't include all pictures because there is a photo limit, but Jimin also says he wasn't prepared for the news, and he was talking with Taehyung, and then he started to cry as he got the news. To me it seems he might have told Tae first (and that they already were on the phone when Jimin got the news?), and that JK likely wasn’t with Jimin when he got the news himself, but that he told JK at a later point.
Tumblr media
But aren't you ignoring how they told the story a bit as well if you see this as a pure ji/kook moment?
The thing is that to me, no matter what ji/kook did that night doesn't even matter for what Tae said. It still indicates Vmin sleep together casually in their private time even if they didn't end up doing it that particular day. And if Tae could say that and ask that on the night leading into JK's birthday then how does that make Ji/kook seem like likely lovers even if they were together? Of course it doesn't mean that Vmin automatically becomes real, but I never said that either. Maybe the two ships cancel each other out, but in the end the fact that Taehyung said this, said it like it was normal, and suggested it the night before JK's birthday says something to me.
It's fine if Ji/kookers love the fact that JM told JK, I don't blame them, but they in turn need to take Tae's words into account as well. The whole point of my original post was to say I don't understand how shippers can feel confident in their ship being real, and this is a perfect example of why focusing in on one thing and ignoring or not noticing another makes these beliefs based on too little information.
You also seemed to ignore the rest of the post (if that was indeed what you were reading) where I state that I do have a bias and where ALL shippers use narratives that fit their ship to tell a certain story.
You also mention me ignoring moments and having confirmation bias, and sure I can't truly get rid of that, but again... I didn't ignore Ji/kook. I never said those things didn't happen. If anything I keep saying all ships have moments and shippers focus on them so much they don't see others have similar moments. Likewise I won't deny ji/kook moments when they clearly exist, that was a big part of the post, if you actually read it and didn't just get stuck on the small details. But it's good you are curious about and know confirmation bias. I have brought it up as a problem many times as well, and I will surely talk about it more in the future too.
Then, moving on to your point about "evidence" I would once again like to say (like in the post) that there is no such thing as proof or evidence for ANY ship. Just moments that shippers put together with their interpretations into a narrative. So you saying "A lot of your evidence seems to come from V’s songs but that’s entirely your analysis based off your perception of their relationship. (Not that I don’t agree with you on some of it.)" is why I felt you somehow misunderstood my whole post.
Of course it’s all my analysis based on my perception of their relationship. That’s the WHOLE POINT about how all shipping analyses work. Not just mine, but all.
Also, yes Taehyung's songs is a big part of why Vmin is suspicious, but it's far from the only reasons I have to question them. I simply used Tae's actions as an example in my post because they are quite many and out there. Many facts tied together, but of course what they mean is always a guess. Which I also stated clearly. I literally brought up a lot of examples of Vmin and said they make a lot of sense, but that doesn't mean we can be sure or "know" Vmin is real.
So, yes, I do feel you misunderstood me on several points, and it seemed you didn't read properly at all but rather got stuck on the details and then used Ji/kook moments to "refute" me even though it in my opinion wasn't relevant to the post at all. Which is why I in turn posted this reply:
It didn’t take long for someone to misunderstand my posts and get caught up on the details and examples instead of the general message. While they were at it they decide to throw in a good “accusation” of something I legit have said I am many times and no one can avoid. Good to know some people just don’t want to understand. 😗👍
Not only you but less interesting/good asks as well might have made me feel a bit annoyed, so I replied like this, I suppose I misunderstood your intentions too.
You also asked "How do you step back and look at things unbiasedly or rationally?" and my personal belief is that I can't. I am biased towards Vmin, and I do try to see things from many ways and to get content in its full context. But simply by consuming and remembering more about Vmin than other dynamics I will still remain biased. I don't think any shipper can truly remain neutral.
Then I got a a second ask (Edit; I now know this is by another person than the first ask).
This isn’t me trying to misunderstand you, I’m just genuinely curious how you ship vmin while also questioning Tae’s honesty (your BB night comment) and thus also Jimin’s, and also hand over the best tools to anti-vminnie who can use your words as proof that “well even vminnie don’t believe vmin so why should we?” And if all ships are basically equal, why ship at all, or why ship vmin? They have the most conclusive things and yet the more we get the more you question and doubt them. Why?
And suddenly there came a whole new additional set of problems.
I suggest reading my post Shipping vs Believing because if you knew my stance you would understand that I think there is a huge difference between shipping and believing and that you can ship whatever you like and it doesn't have to be tied to reality at all.
In general this ask makes you sound like a delusional and defensive believer, so I perhaps suggest reading my post Can shipping turn into conspiracy theories? as well. This additional ask is why I replied with this second short post:
Tumblr media
You say I question the honesty of Tae or Jimin's words, but hopefully you understand this is not at all true since I explained what I actually meant in my original post. Tae asking Jimin to sleep with him is just as true as Jimin telling JK about the win. These two things don't contradict each other and I trust both of the statments to be real.
Also, how am I "handing over tools" to anti-vminies? These things are all out there, and I wasn't even talking about anything negative? Just because I have a more healthy approach than "Vmin is obviously real" that doesn't mean my words should be interpreted as "shipping Vmiin is pointless". However, you did get it right that I don't believe in Vmin, but you seem to have the wrong idea of why I have that stance to begin with. Which again, was part of the message in the original post which you here continue to not understand in other ways.
Me not talking as if Vmin is 100% real doesn't mean I hand out tools to antis. Personally I think that's a weird interpretation of my text, but I can't do anything but try to explain my view on shipping, which I feel that I have many times.
I also don't personally think all ships are equal, but I do think many ships have similar moments and that those moments either get ignored or hyper focused on in a way that makes shipping analysis less trustworhty and always biased and not based purely on facts and the full context. Basically yes, a lot of ships seem to cancel each other out, but that shouldn't stop anyone from shipping. BUT it should make people careful about calling moments "proof" and be sure their narrative is the only possible truth.
I also don't think it's fair to say "They have the most conclusive things and yet the more we get the more you question and doubt them.Why?". I've always tried to keep a distance between shipping and analysis and while we do get more and more for Vmin it's not that I start doubting them more... It's just that I remain open to other things despite more things happening that fits in a Vmin narrative.
I honestly can't tell if you have read a lot of my posts before or not, but it doesn't seem like it, and thus it feels even more unfair for you to lay this judgement on me as well.
Then I got a third ask (edit: which was a second one from the first anon):
Anonymous asked:
I think I’m the anon you responded to. I did read more of your posts where you question things a bit. It’s nice to see you still have a healthy view point on things. I wasn’t really disagreeing with your posts, just wondering if you felt everything was being considered when coming to conclusions. Have a good one !
All this drama, and for what? :P But have a good one too I guess. Thanks for taking the time to read more and trying to understand my point of view.
I also got this ask from another person, and I hope you might understand what I meant after reading my reply to the first anon.
Hi I am sorry I am confused. Can you tell me why specifically you think Vmin alluded to sleeping together during the Billboard Vlive? Didn't Tae say he was talking to Jimin on the phone and told him to come over? Then at the press conference Jimin said "I was with Jungkook" and they were sitting stroking their phones. I am not a shipper or an anti shipper or anything like that. I just would love to see the receipts on this if you have them?
Again, I didn't mean Vmin slept together that day. But the fact that he asked and it seemed like a very normal (even perhaps expected) thing that one of them would go to the other, I can still express it as Tae alluding to Vmin sleeping together at least sometimes during their private time.
Now onto another anon, with a very different take. :)
Anonymous asked:
Spot on. Shipping is one thing but how can some people "believe" in a ship, I'll never understand. People need to realize that even with all the content we get (from concerts to DVDs to Run to BV to interviews), we only see them for maybe like 2-3 days (total) out of 365 days. Like? They visit a country for 7 days and we only get 10 hours of content from it. Do we have any idea what any of them is doing right at this moment? "Supporting" a ship is stupid even if you're right at the end.
Thank you anon. I don't fully agree that we get as little as 2-3 days total out of a year, but we definitely don't see the majority of their lives. And while you are a bit crude, I agree... Even if a ship is real, supporting and believing and being convinced of only one ship is at least in my opinion not the right way to go about it. Which is why I say let's speculate but also support them all whatever the truth might turn out to be.
There we go... It ended up being a lot of drama made out of nothing else than a small misunderstanding. Anyways, I hope I made myself clear. Thanks for the asks, sorry for the somewhat annoyed attitude and I hope you understood what I tried to say.
Thanks for reading. If any of you had the patience to do so all the way through I salute you. <3

@gxmonth Day 18 - This Wasn't In The Rule Book!! vampire au vampire aU VAMPIRE AU~~!! I have always been such a sucker for monsters and magic lol. I wrote a little fanfic drabble a hot minute ago that I'll include under the cut!
There were rumors running rampant all through Domino. Breathless whispers through the crowds of its residents. They spread fear like the plague, but who could blame them? With all of the people who’d gone missing never to be seen again it was only natural such a fear would grow until it had reached an unprecedented proportion. Whether it was truth or not didn’t matter because to the people of Domino there was no doubt. A vampire was on the loose through the city streets after nightfall.
Despite the lack of evidence, Jesse Andersen hoped the rumors true. He’d come a long way to hunt down this supposed dirty bloodsucker. His friend, Jim, had offered to come along on the journey too but Jesse had declined. They didn’t truly know if there was a vampire in Domino City. He’d certainly find out after dark. Since the people of Domino had been keeping holed up inside at night the past few months, he was sure the parasite had to be starved by now.
A chill settled in the night air once the sun fully disappeared over the horizon. Jesse pulled his thick, black jacket tighter to his chest. It would be a long night. He was glad he’s had the foresight of buying himself a hot coffee before the shops closed. It warmed him from the inside out as he perused the streets. Hopefully one of two things would occur: either there was no vampire and he’d be on his merry way after a quick report back to the Vampire Hunter’s Association or there was a parasitic lowlife lurking among the shadows that he would eliminate well before the sun would rise again. Either way Jesse felt that he’d be headed home within the next few days.
He paused underneath of a spotlight near a fountain. It wasn’t running and with the high-rise buildings surrounding he felt even the nearly silent sound of his pulse was amplified. It was quiet—eerily so. Not a thing in the whole city seemed to make any noise and the stillness of it was deafening. A soft, distant tapping of heels against pavement was a deliberate break in the silence. Jesse set his hand on the small stake launcher secured to his belt. The sound echoed and made it seem to come from everywhere at once. He slowly backed up to the fountain, craning his neck around to try and find the direction of the noise. Any direction would do. What he wasn’t expecting was the freezing hands on his shoulders matched with a silken, sultry voice from directly behind him. “Well, what’s a pretty thing like you doing here?”
Jesse jolted from the grasp and yanked the weapon from its holster, aiming it squarely at the chest of the man, no, monster he was looking for. He had messy, untamable, two-toned brown hair and a set of gleaming golden eyes staring hungrily at him. He wore a low-cut V-neck shirt that nearly slit down to his stomach, the two sides of the fabric held together by thin string tied crossways. The sleeves, he noticed, were ruffled when he moved his hands up to the sides of his head — palms facing forward in a show of submission. His pants buttoned and sat snugly on his thin hips before disappearing beneath his high-heeled boots at the knee. The heels dug into the stone of the fountain he stood upon; the streetlights the ideal backdrop for his cape he wore over the ensemble. It fastened just above his clavicle with a jeweled button. Jesse sneered in disgust at the creature, but more so at the choice of apparel. It was far too extra, making him look more like a movie villain than a bloodthirsty creature of night. “Hasn’t anyone warned you it’s dangerous to be out so late at night?” The vampire questioned.
“I could ask the same to you, vampire.” Jesse responded, gesturing to the launcher aimed still at his chest. The vampire chuckled.
“Perhaps, but I own these streets. The name’s Jaden by the way. Jaden Yuki. To whom do I owe the pleasure of meeting this lovely evening?”
“Jesse Andersen. Sorry to say, but these streets were never yours.” Jaden kept his hands raised but stepped down from his position atop the fountain’s rim. Jesse began backing up, his eyes and shot never leaving the vampire as he strutted towards him.
“Is that so?” He drawled, continuing his slow approach. Jesse’s fingers twitched on the trigger, the small movement pushing Jaden to respond. He kicked high, knocking the weapon out of Jesse’s hands and into the sky. It came crashing back to the Earth and hit the rock of the fountain with a horrendous crack, bouncing into the water in a jagged movement. Jesse’s eyes widened at the horror of being disarmed. He hadn’t expected to find an adversary of any remarkable skill on the streets of Domino. Now, only panic and fear pooled in his stomach as he kept his eyes locked on Jaden’s. “Care to tell me what brings you here, Jesse?”
“You.”
“Me?” Jaden asked, cocking his head to the side in an innocent way.
“Obviously! You’re the one who’s been kidnapping people for the past few months!” Jesse’s words only seemed to confuse Jaden more. He furrowed his brow hard.
“Wait, wait. Hold on a minute. First of all, I haven’t kidnapped anyone ever! I haven’t even been out from the lair in a year or so! I’ve been—”
“I thought you owned these streets?” Jesse sassed.
“Well, ehe, I thought it’d sound cool. Didn’t it?” Jaden admitted, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
“That doesn’t matter!” Jesse exclaimed, shaking Jaden’s shoulders. Jaden pouted.
“Fine, fine. Anyways, I’m not the one you’re after.”
“Great! Now I’m stuck in the heart of Domino with two vampires wandering the streets with no weapon.” He whined, coming to sit at the fountain. Jaden shrugged casually.
“There are plenty more vampires than that here, but okay.” An idea struck Jesse, fast and hard and stupid. So stupid, in fact, it just might work.
“You!” He exclaimed suddenly, rushing Jaden and squeezing his shoulders roughly. Jaden blinked slowly at him.
“Me?”
“Yes! You’ve got to know all the vampires around here!”
“So?”
“So, you must know the one responsible! You can help me!” Jaden’s eyes narrowed, intrigue taking over.
“Oh? And what’s in it for me?” He purred. Jesse gulped but didn’t let the fear register. He knew it’d make his job so much easier to play the enemy. If he could get Jaden to work with him, he could eliminate not only the immediate threat but Jaden as well. Killing two vampires with one stake. All he had to do was play his cards right.
“Would…some of my blood be fine enough payment?” He asked, playing as though he was embarrassed by such an idea. He’d noticed many vampires he’d dealt with in the past responded well if he pretended like he was new, nervous, and never before bitten. It was like the idea of being the first to drink from a human was a special treat that was rarely given. He’d been bitten plenty by vampires and honestly it wasn’t that bad. It only would become a problem should he take his lifeblood—the true way to turn a human into a vampire. Jaden pursed his lips as Jesse lowered the collar of his jacket, offering payment upfront for his cooperation. He closed in on Jesse, gripping his biceps and wetly licking a stripe up Jesse’s neck to his ear. Jesse hated the way his body shuddered at the feeling, both of the lick and Jaden’s hot breath now in his ear. Though, he was also grateful for it. It helped to sell the unspoken act of it being his first time. He bit his own lip, mentally preparing himself for Jaden’s fangs. It was always the initial jab that was the worst part. A short, single noise of amusement left Jaden’s mouth before his answer rang numbly in his ear.
“No.” Jesse felt his eyes widen when Jaden pulled back to look Jesse in the face, a casual smirk present on his lips. He had never once in all of his time dealing with vampires ever had one turn down a willing, easy meal. It was astounding and almost admirable. Jaden was on an entirely new level of vampire he’d never seen before. He could feel his cheeks flush with real embarrassment of being turned down so casually. What, was his blood not good enough? “I came up for a reason tonight, Jesse. Would you like to know it?” Words failed, so he simply nodded. Jaden closed the short distance between them and slotted his chin in the juncture of Jesse’s neck, lips less than an inch away from Jesse’s ear. He whispered like he was revealing a grand secret. “You see, I’ve very recently come of age. It’s time to build a court of my own, but to do that I have to prove myself. Know how?” His answer was a shake of the head. He could feel Jaden’s smirk grow. “I have to turn a human into a vampire in front of everyone I know. A little ceremony if you will. I was hoping to find myself a willing participant to join my court. My first member. That’s all I could ever ask for.”
The color that’d been building in Jesse’s face drained. He was terrified in the, albeit gentle, grip of a vampire that wanted to turn him. It was a good thing in a way. At least Jaden didn’t have any desire to kill him, and that made him feel a bit better. Still, with all the vampires Jesse’d seen he’d never truly spoken to one longer than necessary. In one short description from Jaden, he felt like he’d learned more of the societal structure of vampires than he had in his relatively short career. Jaden pulled away from him, making eye contact with Jesse. He could feel the icy cold of Jaden’s fingers on the skin of his face. His lips moved, but no sound came out. Jesse shook his head, hoping to tune back in. “What?” He asked. Jaden shook his head softly, tsking.
“I said that if you wanted to, we could have a little fun. Make a game of it. Only if you’re a willing participant of course. I’d hate to coerce you into a life you’re uncomfortable with.”
“A game of what?”
“Rewards! If you win, I’ll help you track the vampire behind the disappearances and as an added bonus I’ll leave Domino. But if I win, you’ll stay and become my first court member. We can still track the vampire down, that’s a given. Either way you’ll still benefit in one fashion or another.”
“And what game will we be playing?”
“How’s hide and go seek? I know it’s a bit unfair since I know the city better than you, so we can keep tally at the fountain. Say, five minutes to hide and ten to seek? We’ll play ‘till dawn, so twelve rounds. No rooftops, no going into buildings, no turning into bats. Sound fair?” Jaden extended his hand to Jesse. His heart pounded in his chest. He couldn’t believe he was even considering it, but it was true. Jaden was the best bet of actually locating the vampire he was looking for, and even if he lost Jaden didn’t seem like that bad of a guy. He was inclined to take Jaden’s hand, so he did. A searing pain ran up his arm and radiated through his body. “The oath is bound. I’ll seek first.” He turned his back to Jesse, covering his eyes with his hands. “One…Two…Three…”
Jesse ran as fast as his legs could carry him. The people of Domino were depending on him to end their blight. He had to win. He felt a sort of obligation to rid the world of these vermin. Yet, there was something about Jaden Yuki that’d drawn him in way too far for a first encounter. His initial presence had felt intimidating, domineering, and had in an instant become soft and genuine. It felt so wrong to see any good in one of those filthy creatures of the night, but Jesse couldn’t help it. He could sense the overwhelming good nature of Jaden and it made him feel inclined to believe that this would be a fair game.
That was five minutes. Jesse tucked himself tight into an alleyway. He slowed his breathing, trying hard not to give himself away. The click of Jaden’s heels against the concrete filled every crevasse and made it impossible to know how close or far Jaden really was. The gentle glow of the moon and the harsh lights of the city around were the only means Jesse had of sight. He wished desperately for the warmth of the sun. This alley felt like static on his skin. The clicking finally stopped. He held his breath, shifting slightly back behind the boxes he was obscured by. “Found you!” Jaden smirked. He’d moved so fast he’d nearly materialized out of thin air. “Alright! One to nothin’! Better catch-up Jess, unless you secretly do want to be a vampire!” He stuck out his tongue past his sharp teeth before taking off down the alley. Jesse couldn’t help the smile that overtook his face. This was actually kind of fun. Jaden, as dangerous as he had the potential to be, actually was making this unfortunate situation fun.
He found Jaden easily, far too easily. He’d been out in the open, almost waiting for him. With each passing round Jaden found him with unfathomable ease and Jesse him with increasing difficulty. It all came down to the final round – Jaden’s six to Jesse’s five. It was Jesse’s turn to seek. “Good luck, Jess. I can’t wait to see how good you’ll look on the ceremonial altar for me!” He winked suggestively and, in a flash, he was gone. Jesse closed his eyes and willed the color from his face. He was a grown ass man. He could deal with comments like that! He could! He began his count.
There was breeze now that brushed and caressed his skin with an all-new chill. It made him feel uncertain. Could he really find Jaden? He had been getting harder and harder to find. If he failed to find him, he’d still finish the job he’d come to the city to do. The only difference was that he wouldn’t be leaving. His heart fluttered in his chest. It was making him feel fuzzy to think about. He didn’t hate the idea; he hadn’t hated the idea from the start actually. If he had, he wouldn’t’ve agreed to play. Hell, he didn’t even hate vampires down to his core like most of his friends did. He’d mostly joined to thanks to Jim’s glowing reference and the promise of traveling about. You had to dehumanize vampires to bring yourself to kill them. He’d gotten good at it and he loved to be good at something. He didn’t think now though that even if a good opportunity showed itself that he could go through killing Jaden. He’d done an excellent job at humanizing himself from the start to Jesse.
His counted ended and the final chase began. He only had until the sun rose now. Domino was huge and for once that evening, he actually felt defeated. Still, he pressed onwards and kept his search going. Every alley, every street, behind every garbage can and every car. It was like Jaden had disappeared entirely until finally he reached the first place he’d hidden. “Jaden! I know you’re there!” Jesse bluffed. He heard a chuckle come from behind him and flipped around. Jaden was so close, leaning in towards him.
“So close and yet so far.” Jaden said, gesturing over his shoulder. The sun had already begun to slink over the horizon. He felt Jaden’s thin but strong arms wrap around him and a swirling vortex of black consumed them.

HASO, “Family Dynamics.”
Thought you guys might enjoy this today.
A lot of you have been asking for more Conn in the stories, so I hope you enjoy :)
“Wow, would you look at that.”
“No.”
“Wow.” “No. Hopping on the nope train and taking a ride to nopeville….. Nope absolutely not.”
“Come on, Krill, isn’t it just….. Just awesome!.”
“That, that right there is an absolute  raging death trap.” “Oh come on>” Adam said, hands on his hips as he stared up at the rocket.. THe Saturn V replica down to the last bolt. He grinned and danced around on his toes in a circle, “This is gonna be so cool!”
Krill turned to look at Adam, “No, no this is not cool, Adam. I am serious this time, not joking. I really don’t want you going in that thing. And with the assassination attempts and…. All that is going on with the GA leaders….” He looked at Adam Very pointedly here, “I don’t think you should do this.”
“Are you serious, a once in a lifetime opportunity and you want me to just say no because there is a possibility someone Might try to kill me?”
“Um…. YES.”
Adam crossed his arms, “Krill, I refuse to let myself live in fear when there is life to be lived.”
Krill turned to look hopefully over at Eris who was standing quietly by his side. She shook her head at him.
“He isn’t going to change his mind.”
“Can you at least try?”
She sighed, “Ok.”
Gently Eris took one of his hands forcing him to look at her, “Da…..Adam think about it please, there are a lot of powerful people after you, powerful and with resources. If they want to kill you, then this will be the perfect time to do it. They could put it off as some horrible accident, and no one would be the wiser.” She paused as he looked back at her, “I can see that this isn’t going to change your mind either.”
He smiled, “This is what I have my people for.” HE took the two of them by the shoulders and led them to where they could overlook the command station in the distance, “In there, right now, there are elements of the criminal underworld that owe me a favor, looking for any clues to indicate an attempt on my life.” He grinned, “Also, I have two secret weapons.”
He put his arm around Eris and then turned his head to look up at the sky.
Eris and Krill followed his lead.
Krill groaned, and Eris went wide eyed.
As a starborn descended from the sky ribbons flapping hands outstretched dropping from heaven like an ethereal angel. Sunlight bounced off his skin as he moved slowly downward hands held out to the side fingers outstretched. She stepped forward and- was immediately hit with a wall of his thoughts.
She no longer saw him as ethereal.
He was an asshole.
Conn drifted towards the ground but didn’t touch ribbons swirling around him seaweed undulating in a dark sea: Yes her thoughts about him had changed that much, he had gone from angel to seaweed rather quickly in her head.
He turned his eyes to her.
‘Who invited you’
Eris frowned, “I-
Adam glowered at Conn, “Be nice to her.”
Conn turned his head to look at Eris and drifted closer looking her over, ‘Oh daddy issues I see, well who doesn't.” He turned to look up at Adam, ‘Gotta love people borrowing your DNA for craft projects especially when they give you kids a little too early.”
Adam was not able to hide the thought that came marching to the forefront of his mind.
You know that’s interesting considering your starborn DNA was the most easily accessible before Eris was born.
He didn’t say it out loud, but he didn’t need to.
Eris made a face, and Conn drew back.
“HIM!”
Shit, Adam thought
“I never said that.”
“But you were thinking it.” She retorted turning on him with her eyes narrowed before turning to look back at Conn, who floated in shock behind her.
Adam held up his hands, “Woah now, I can’t be for sure, it just makes sense.”
Eris turned back to where Conn was floating and made another face, “But, but HIM. I don’t want…. I, I can’t be related to HIM.”
Adam sighed, “Being able to read his thoughts must be a bitch eh?”
Of course at the moment Conn wasn’t really having any thoughts. It was mostly just TV static with an undercurrent of the thoughts of people around him amplifying them even more in Eris’s head. Which is why she could hear Dr Krill quietly inching away as he wondered if he should tell them or nah?
He hd suspected as much the moment they had seen Eris, and learned that the DNA being used was Adam’s.
It had been easy enough to get Adam’s DNA strands from the original hybrids….. The adaptids….. But they would have needed other aliens to pair him with. And there was only one known starborn available to steal DNA from.
Conn’s static continued.
Eris groaned and put her hands to her head.
Adam rubbed his forehead, “Well, on the bright side, you turned out more like your human side of the family.” That’s when the static in Conn’s head fizzled out and he turned to look at Adam. With a sudden Evil grin, which he must have been practicing, for it seemed far to human for him, He floated over and grabbed both of them around the shoulders, “Isn’t this sweet, now we can all be one big happy family.’
“Get off me Conn.” Adam grumbled
He just squeezed tighter, though as a starborn the strength was somewhat lacking. ‘Don’t talk like that, you and I have a beautiful daughter together. Just look at her. She’s got your internal organs and my skin. Isn’t that lovely.”
“Conn I swear if you keep touching me I will punch you and probably break something.”
Conn made like he was sighing as he pulled away, “You know, as her parents we should really be trying to set an example for a healthy loving relationship. A family that plays together-”
He floated away quickly before Adam could swipe at him missing the strike by mere inches.
“Domestic assault in this household!”
Eris hid her face in her hands, “Oh no.”
She was definitely not sure how she was supposed to feel about this. One the one hand, she was at least glad that he wasn’t repulsed by the idea of her existing. However, on the other hand, it was likely that her paternal starborn side was Conn! The thought made her nauseous . Reading his thoughts made her feel the same way. Clearly this creature, whatever he was had never grown out of petty pranks, and intense sarcasm.
More annoyingly, he seemed to have the ability to hide things from her just by NOT thinking about them. She learned nothing about his past, or really his more internal thoughts. He only let her see what she wanted to see, and what he wanted her to see made her more annoyed the more she thought about it.
“I’m so excited, aren't you. Finally reunited at last!”
Adam sighed, “This is now how I planned this. Conn you stupid bastard, I called you down here to do a job for me.”
“You wouldn’t call your hubby stupid would you?”
Adam looked like he was about to turn green, “Never in a million years would I ever even consider that. In fact, I think I would rather shoot myself out the airlock an have all the nitrogen bubble out of my blood thank you very much.:”
“One night stands happen.”
“Conn I swear if you keep going down this metaphor. I am going to commit murder. Never in a million years would I touch you with a nine and a half foot pole, end of story.”
“Excuse me for being skeptical as you have been known to date aliens in the past.”
“That was Sunny, who is arguably, not even arguably, but she IS smart, talented, funny, a total badass, and a fucking gem, while you are a creepy little space gremlin.”
“Yet I have a kid with you and she doesn’t sooooooo, forgive me if I say I win.”
“We can’t be for sure that she’s yours.”
“I demand a paternity test.”
“Conn, if you don’t let this go right now I am going to rip your spine out through your back and let Waffles chew on it.”
“Bold of you to assume I have a spine.”
Adam took a eep long-suffering breath, “I am done with this conversation, now I called you down here for a reason, and that reason is that I need you two watching out for something going wrong. Eris, as a member of my family you will be allowed inside mission control to watch what is going on. Your job is to make sure that no one is planning my death from the inside.” he turned his head in Conn’s direction and flipped him the bird as he continued to speak, “You on the other hand are in charge of the engineers. I know you don’t give a shit about boundaries, so your job is to hang around the engineers and the rocket hangers to see if any of them had a hand in sabotaging the mission. If you can get near the chairwoman, or the UN President, than do what you can. I need to know how deep all of this goes.” He turned his head to Eris, “You are probably going to be able to get closer to everyone than Conn can. People know he is a starborn and they know what he can do. No one will assume  anything about you if you keep your head low.”
She smiled, “Already done.” A little part of her leaped inside, and she felt giddy. Adam needed her to help protect him! She was being useful for once! Not to mention that this meant he trusted her and….. She turned a side eye on conn, Then again, that probably meant that Adam trusted him too.
The starborn grinned at her again, showing rows and rows of of sharp circular teeth.
She winced and looked away.
Gross
“I have to get going, but you two should get to work. This is going to be a long week.”
He whistles once, and Waffles jumped up from where she had been resting at his side, and gently trotted after him as he walked away back towards the command station. Eris started after him and Conn floated up next to her.
“What an unexpectedly delightful day, don’t you think.”
“Can you be less creepy please.”
“It runs in the family Eris, you have the creepy inside you too. Embrace it!”
She shoved him away with one hand and ran to catch up with Adam.
She could hear conn laughing behind her as he floated away towards the hangers.
She glanced over his shoulder as she grabbed onto Adam’s arm, “Why is he so weird!”
Adam shrugged, “I think something happened to him when he was first born. I would say that he was dropped on his head, but that’s probably not accurate. Think i heard something about him having been isolated from his clan for the first few thousand years with his dead mother, but I don’t know if that’s true or if it’s just something he made up. Either way I think whatever happened to him kind of made him psycho.”
She glanced over her shoulder to the figure floating off into the distance, “Than why do you keep him around?”
He sighed, “Unfortunately, his abilities are invaluable. The ability to bring him alone when it comes to negotiations, or to talk with new alien species speeds up both diplomatic missions and learning new languages.” He sighed, “Also, as far as I can tell he is pretty loyal. He always does everything I ask him to do as long as it is important enough. Sure if I asked him to pick up after himself he’d probably flip me the bird and go floating in the other direction. But every time something big and important has happened, he has always been relatively reliable. A part of me wonders if he just doesn’t know how to interact with people, and somewhere deep down there is a desire to be wanted, but that’s not something I can prove.” He glanced pointedly at her.
She shook her head, “Sorry, he’s pretty good at hiding what’ he’s thinking.”
Adam grunted, “A real pity. Now-” He turned to look at her, placing his hands on her shoulders and looking her in the eye, “Stay low. If you hear anything, don’t try to do anything about it yourself. Call my ship, either Sunny or Ramirez and they will deal with everything. If you see someone wearing a red pin with a white rocket on it, then those are our undercover guys, and they should be able to help you too. But it’s likely you will know who they are anyway.”
He looked her in the eyes, “Whatever happens, your safety comes first, not mine. You got that/”
She nodded eagerly even though she knew that last instruction was a lie.
He was more important than her.
And she was going to make sure that he stayed safe.

When Marcus Met the Doctor
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: Hey there Internet friends! So my buddy @autumnleaves1991-blog had asked me for a follow up on my original Marcus Moreno story. She was wondering how Marcus met the future Dr. Moreno. It was in an ask, but I can’t find it to save my life. I’m posting this on my iPad because my laptop isn’t playing nicely today, so I apologize if the format seems a little odd. I’m still learning! I gave the reader a last name and a nickname so I didn’t have to use y/n but I didn’t give any descriptions about physical appearance, so I hope you’ll be able to see yourself here. Please let me know what you think, I hope you enjoy - Kat
Warnings: swearing, single parenthood

Marcus was at his wit’s end. He’d been a single dad for all of three weeks after his wife decided that she wasn’t invested in being a mother or having a spouse that occasionally saved the world. What was he supposed to do with a kid that just turned 7, a two-month-old baby who started showing signs of powers, and a full-time job as one of the Heroics? He’d been up all night with the baby, Jules, because every time she woke up, she’d inadvertently started throwing things around the room...with her mind.
He had been around children with powers before, sure, but he had never encountered a child this young having powers begin to develop. Hell, his oldest, Missy, hadn’t even had her powers show up yet. He knew that each child was different, but this was way out of his league. He knew how to handle children; he loved children, especially his children. A powerful infant was not in his job description. He needed outside assistance, and he needed it yesterday.
It was a blustery Saturday, so he bundled himself and the kids up, making his way to Heroics HQ. There had to be someone there that could help. Walking into HQ was like walking into a completely different world. Uniquely powered individuals in multicolored hero outfits, scientists in lab coats, executives in suits, and a myriad of others all spent their time hustling and bustling through the gigantic building. In the middle of all this was Marcus, a dad in jeans, a grey V-neck, converse, and a leather jacket holding a bundled up super powered baby in the crook of his arm, with his hand gripping the small hand of his inquisitive little girl. He sighed, making his way to the building’s science and medical wing, trying to find the proper hallway and office number.
Finally, he found it, office 22A, the person who hopefully had the answers he needed for baby Jules. He knocked; he felt awkward just rushing in even though technically had an appointment. He hadn’t expected the door to be opened by the most beautiful woman that he’d ever laid eyes on. She smiled kindly, gesturing for him to enter. He couldn’t help but take in her appearance as he guided himself and Missy into the office. She was dressed professionally, wearing a pencil skirt, blouse, and heels topped with a lab coat, the sleeves rolled up to her elbows. Her eyes shone with both care and enthusiasm; a soft smile graced her lips. He watched as she grabbed Missy’s hand, setting her up with toys in a corner filled with all sorts of things children loved. She was so gentle with the little girl, giving all of her attention to the child. Once Missy was situated and happily playing quietly, the woman turned her attention back to Marcus and Jules. She said something to him, but Marcus just stood there, blinking, a mixture of exhaustion and admiration rendering him speechless.
“Mr. Moreno?” a gentle voice inquired, her hand on his bicep snapping him out of his reverie.
Marcus blinked, shaking his head, willing himself to be in the present. “I’m so sorry, I’m completely worn out. Between work, the baby, and Missy, I’m just barely pulling through on my own. You can call me Marcus, by the way, Mr. Moreno just seems so formal.”
The kind smile was back as she led him to a couch at the back of the office, where they both sat down and got comfortable.
“So, Marcus, I hear that you are here to see me about your little one here. My name is Dr. Johnson, but mostly everyone around here calls me Iris. Please tell me what’s going on with the baby, and I can see what I can do for you.” She sounded so confident in her ability to assist him, not even knowing what the problem was yet.
“Iris? Is that your name?” Marcus accidentally wondered aloud.
The responding light laugh that Dr. Johnson gave him sounded like a perfect melody. “No, that’s not my name, just a nickname. One of my secondary abilities is a bit of telekinesis. When I activate that or my other abilities, my eyes turn well the color of irises, and the name just stuck.”
He nodded, absorbing the information while rocking Jules in his arms. She was dozing at the moment since this would ideally be her naptime. He studied her face, looking for what, he wasn’t sure. He didn’t even know where to begin, how to ask for something he wasn’t sure there was a solution for. It hit him then how young she was. How was someone so young supposed to help him?
“I sense some hesitation in you. If you have questions or concerns, I’m happy to address them. I want to be able to help you, but to do that, you also need to trust me.”
Marcus shifted in his seat, clearly uncomfortable. He didn’t want to be rude or demanding, but this was his baby they were talking about here. It was his job to keep Jules safe, it was just him now, and he couldn’t stand the idea of her in any type of danger simply because he couldn’t figure out what to do about her powers.
Iris put her hand on his, causing him to look back at her again.
“Yes, I’m quite young, I just turned 28 last month, but that doesn’t make me any less qualified to help you and your baby girl. My greatest ability is my mind. I have nine doctorates, working on more as we speak, which doesn’t include my medical degrees. I am a doctor of pediatric medicine, as well as a surgeon for both children and adults. I’ve worked on most of the heroically enhanced beings that work here, you included, although you were unconscious at the time. I invent most of the tech that you and your fellow Heroics use every day. Those katana blades of yours, those are my work. As a father, I know that you’re going to be hesitant to allow anyone to help your daughter, especially someone who is young, like me. I assure you, Marcus, that my young age is made up for by my vast set of experiences. I would argue that I’m the best suited for this job out of anyone. Please, let me help you so that you can take care of your children to the best of your ability. Give me a chance here; I promise you won’t regret it.”
He had been expecting her anger at his hesitance, not her understanding. He was sure that he was about to be yelled at for doubting her. Instead, she calmly explained exactly who she was and why she was his best bet. Fuck, she was brilliant and willing to help. He needed to give her a chance and let her see this through, no matter how nervous he was.
“Iris, I apologize; I shouldn’t doubt you or your abilities. I’m pretty new at this single dad thing, and I’m just trying to take care of them the best I can. I’ve been doing mostly consultant work from home, but that’s only a temporary solution. I just-,” his voice broke, tears filling his eyes.
A tear dripped down his face, but the doctor caught it with her thumb, smoothing it away. She had tears in her own eyes, threatening to overflow. She enveloped him in as firm of a hug as she could with baby Jules still in his arms, letting him lay his head on her shoulder and permitting him to feel. All his sorrow, worries, and fears flowed out of him through his tears. Fingers carded through his hair, a hand rubbed soothing circles on his back, her words of comfort whispered in his ear. Marcus, you’re not alone. There are people who want to help. It’s okay, let it all out. He didn’t know how long they stayed like that, but by the time he finished crying, he felt safe and cared for, something that he hadn’t felt in a while, not since far before his ex had left.
They spent the next half hour discussing what abilities Jules had exhibited so far, what Marcus’ concerns were, and what he needed to be a functional parent. He explained how the baby started showing signs of power less than a week after she was born, how she seemed to be able to move things with her mind, but that he wasn’t quite sure because, well, Jules was a baby and he was sure that she didn’t even realize she was doing it. He was worried because as time went on, the objects kept getting larger. Last night, somehow, she had moved the crib in front of the bedroom door when she woke up in the middle of the night for her bottle. He had ended up having to take the door off its hinges to even get into the room. Hearing his baby crying and not being able to get to her had scared him shitless. He’d ended up staying in the baby’s room all night to make sure nothing else happened.
As they talked, Jules had woken up and was beginning to fuss. Iris ended up taking the baby, giving her a bottle, and watching her abilities while still listening to Marcus. She was so good with little Jules, holding her, gently stroking her hair, whispering comforting words when she would get fussy. He saw books begin to float off the shelf in his peripheral vision, he got up to try and put them back, but Iris’ hand shot out, stopping him. She smiled up at him, raising a hand and pushing them back in place with her mind.
“I think I have something that will help.”
She stood up, still holding the baby, and went to her desk, grabbing a tiny silver cuff. She pressed a few buttons on the keyboard, bringing up various holograms all around the room. Marcus almost jumped out of his skin when she began to talk to an AI, sorting through her research until she found what she was looking for.
“This is my own design, it’s basically a bracelet that will contain Jules’ powers and abilities while she wears it. It’s waterproof, tamper resistant, and will only open with either your fingerprint or my own. As she grows, we’ll change the cuff size and lessen the suppression. When this little lady is old enough, the cuff will come off altogether and she will have full access to her abilities. The suppression will not cause her any harm or pain, I’ve made sure to try it on myself long term to be certain. This allows you to keep her safe without working yourself into exhaustion. We can meet a few times a month to assess her progress. This should help you all get into the groove of things, Marcus.”
He took the cuff, studying it, rolling it over in his hands. It felt like regular metal, nothing special. He titled it to see the inside. There were tiny sensors evenly spaced throughout and something that was blinking green. This was far beyond his paygrade as far as technology went. The fact that the woman in front of him invented this and was willing to use this to help ensure his baby’s safety was not lost on him. He was grateful that she had a solution, hopefully it would help.
“It won’t hurt her, right? I just want to make sure. Has this been studied long term? Are there any side effects?” he enquired, trying not to get too excited.
Iris shook her head as she lightly rocked Jules in her arms. “I’ve used this on myself, as well as some other children that have had their abilities show up a bit too early. I haven’t seen any drawbacks or side effects of the cuff so far, but I want to have you bring Jules in at least once every few weeks so that we can keep her closely monitored. You’ll also have my number, please feel free to contact me day or night if you have any concerns or if anything goes wrong. I’m here to help and it’s my main priority to make sure that this sweet girl can learn and grow safely, without the threat of her powers going awry. This problem is one that we can solve, Marcus.”
He nodded, her words were reassuring to be sure. Since he became a single father, he hadn’t really trusted anyone with the safety and wellbeing of his little girls besides himself. It was difficult to reach out and allow someone to help solve a problem when the one person he had trusted the most had shattered him. Iris was giving him a solution, she was asking for his trust in her and her science. He could do that for his kids, he had to.
Marcus handed her back the cuff, allowing her to delicately put it on Jules’ wrist. It didn’t even phase the baby one bit. She kept on as if nothing had changed at all. He let out the breath that he didn’t even know he had been holding. She seemed absolutely fine, content to be rocked in the good doctor’s arms. She handed her back to Marcus, allowing him to cradle his little one close.
The two adults scheduled baby Jules’ followup appointment for the next week so that they could see her progress and give Iris a chance to check the data and run some tests. They spoke for a few more minutes until Missy came up to get their attention.
“Daddy, I’m hungry.”
Iris got down on Missy’s level so that she could look her in the eye. “You did so well today, Missy. Thank you so much for playing quietly while your daddy and I talked about your baby sister. I’m very proud of you.”
Missy broke out in a huge grin, throwing her arms around the doctor’s shoulders.
“Will we get to see you again? Can I come and play here more soon?”
Iris returned the hug, smiling fondly at the little girl. “Your sister has another appointment here next week and you are more than welcome to come and play in my office again. It was very nice to meet you. I think your daddy will be taking you down to the cafeteria here for some lunch, how does that sound?”
Missy nodded enthusiastically, grabbing her father’s free hand and tugging him along.
“Thank you so much, Iris, I really appreciate all the time you’ve given us today.”
“The pleasure is mine, Marcus, really. I’m here to help.”
There wasn’t much more to be said as Marcus was dragged by Missy out the door and down the hallway, chatting about what type of lunch they were going to eat. The doctor stood in the doorway, watching the little family leave, happy that she could be of assistance. She liked Marcus, he seemed to love his children a great deal and was a good man.
As they got in the elevator, Missy’s sweet voice said, “Daddy, I like that doctor lady, she’s so nice. I hope we get to see her more. She’s so pretty!”
Marcus had to agree with his daughter, he liked Iris, too. He felt a tug in his gut telling him that he should get to know her more, that she was someone truly special. He decided then and there that he would try to make that happen.

The king hadn’t been gone long before your departure was set and the palace set to readying the horses and their riders. Loki presented you with a maid’s dress and apron and had you dress the part for the journey to his brother’s manor of Thunder Lodge.
“Keep your head down,” he bid as you changed, “If any should wonder why you are unfamiliar, you will explain that you have recently been re-allocated among the staff. When we do arrive, if any do question your duties, you will say you tend to one of the lords.”
There were a dozen servants in the cart with you, packed in among chests and other luggage.  As you rocked with its motion, you could see him and hear his voice still.
“Do not mention me. Once all is settled, you will join me and remain in my chambers until we return to the road.” He fixed his hair in the glass as he spoke. He was agitated as he continued to find ways to keep his hands busy. “And at last, I might show you truly the extent of your sentence.”
You squeezed your thighs together as you pressed yourself to the side of the cart. You could remember so clearly the way his tongue felt and that joyous flame which had overtaken our core. It made you sweat to think on it and his promises of more only added to your unwanted fervour. Your spite was splintered by your sinful want.
The secrecy made it feel worse. It assured you that it was wrong. Certainly, a bed warmer was not unheard of, mistresses far more common, but Loki’s insistence upon deception made you anxious. Perhaps, it added to his amusement. Or perhaps he was ashamed to lay with a commoner. It truly didn’t matter so you pondered little on his whims.
Camp was made just after dark. The moon beamed down on the party and you slept among the staff and the horses. You didn’t expect Loki to call for you nor were you disappointed. Yet you thought of him. You couldn’t shake him.
Even as you thought of sneaking away, he lingered in your mind. He warned you that you would not go unobserved and you hadn’t. You noticed the guard and how he stayed close to the servants’ cart. His grey eyes as they found you amid the bunch. He was one of esteemed warriors assigned to the king’s personal guard and yet he wore the mail of the common palace sentinel. You both wore disguises and both knew each other to be interlopers.
The party rose with the sun. It wasn’t long before you were in the cart again. You dozed for some minutes but woke as you were jostled roughly. You watched the winding path and the trees peter out to tall grasses and fields of yellow, blue, and red petals.
Your vision streaked as your head spun; something about this trip made you anxious, not that you had felt anything but in the last days. There was a foreboding deep in your stomach and it had you fidgeting as sweat beaded under the collar of your dress.
You had never been far from the capital, you never had the reason or the means. You were further then than you had ever been. The great stone pillars of Hammers Bough rose around you and opened up to the city that marked the threshold of Thunder Lodge.
The oldest of the royal houses, Thunder Lodge was an implacable fortress said to be built on the will of the gods. It had once been the capital until a great storm swept in from the sea and flooded out the city. It had since been rebuilt but the royals and their court had since moved to the current capital of Starseed.
The gates of the royal abode were open as the king’s retinue approached and within, silks hung from the walls bearing the crest of the major houses of the realm. The sky was dimming as the sun began its decline and the August afternoon began to cool. The progression had made good time on the road but still with little time to prepare for the next day’s events.
At the rear of the train, you peered past the horses and the nobles and their carriages as a booming voice broke over the din. The blonde prince greeted his dark-haired brother before he could dismount and nearly pulled him from his saddle with his gruff handshake. Loki righted himself and slid down to his feet. The two men were similar in height, though Thor was twice as broad.
As the lords and their wives, daughters, and sons, began to deploy, you lost sight of the sons of Odin. You were forced from your haze by the servant next to you and you hopped down from the cart as the others began to unload the chests. You joined them, straining beneath the great weight as your skirts bunched between your legs with each bend.
You wiped your dusty hands on your apron as you caught your breath and readied to care a heavy chest up through the servants’ doors with another girl in brown wool. You paused as you caught the eye of the covert guard. He fingered the pommel of his sword as he squinted at you. The dented armor of his disguise did little to disassemble his stature.
You grabbed the leather handle of the chest and heaved it from the dirt. You followed the other girl along the line of servants to the doors. Inside, the resident staff directed the visitors and instructed them according to their master. The servants who had no specific liege, were to remain in the kitchens.
You let the other girl, Hanna, take the lead and left the chest in Lady Ulna’s chambers. You returned to the lower floors and exited through the same doors. Slowly, the toil was thinning as the nobles were welcomed through the front doors.
As you neared the cart, you were caught by your arm and thrust behind it. The armored guard shoved you against the wood as his hand returned to his sword.
“Stay,” he snarled. “Can’t have you getting lost.”
You stared up at him. A dark haired man with broad shoulders and a thick beard beneath his helm. He was similar to Thor in build, perhaps bigger.
“He thinks I will run?”
“He knows you to be a trespasser,” the man shrugged, “It is not beyond you to stray.”
“And you think I could outpace you?” You scoffed. “I haven’t tried upon this journey.”
“There has been little opportunity to do thus and I assure you, you wouldn’t make it two steps beyond my grasp, girl,” he glanced around and watched the other servants. “The king has assigned you as my personal duty. It is not what I’d prefer but I have always served well and you would not stain my reputation.”
You said nothing and crossed your arms as you leaned against the cart. He felt around at his belt and dug out a strip of dried meat from a leather pouch. He chewed and grumbled as the din of voices faded beyond the tall door of the palace and the servants went about their labor.
“Alright, best have you away,” he made to grab you again and you drew away.
“I can follow,” you assured him, “You don’t need to drag me.”
His nostrils flared and he shook his head. “I should like to,” he muttered but didn’t try again as he waved you back down to the servants doors.
Within, he asked a scullery where the king would be lodged and nodded at her directions. He continued on, prodding you back into step and strayed away from the path of other servants.
“She said the other way,” you intoned.
“I know my way,” he growled, “Now, quiet, girl.”
He led you up a winding staircase wordlessly, trailing behind you in his armour. When you reached the top, he ducked through the low archway and led you through the maze like corridors until he happened upon the more lively passages. A pair of doors was open as the guard approached the boy Hal who stood by the frame.
“Magnus,” Hal’s voice cracked as he saw the guard and his eyes peeked at you.
“The king does not want any suspicion. Keep her hidden in the bedchamber as the luggage is unloaded. I will be close.” He nudged you forward. “Hurry, before she is noticed.”
Hal nodded and waved you within. The boy was terrified of the much larger guard and you couldn’t blame him. You stepped through the doors as the servant scurried to open the bedchamber doors. Magnus lingered by the entrance as his armor clinked against the stone.
“Please, miss, the king would be unhappy if you are discovered.” Hal warned. “You must remain and keep quiet.”
You wondered at why such caution was being taken but merely nodded. The boy was only doing his duty and he was surrounded by cruel men. You walked the perimeter of the bedchamber and turned back to him.
“We both know the king to be mean-hearted,” you said, “I will do as you say.”
“I must close the doors,” he said as he retreated.
You tilted your head and spun back. You went to the window as the doors shut with a click. You gazed out from behind the silk drapes and that same stone set in your heart. A foreign prison was no less a trap.
🐍
When the servants finished their work, Hal knocked and asked after you. He was a kind boy, not very talkative, and nearly completely silent in the presence of the king. You affirmed that you were as well as you could be and he left to return with a plate for your supper. You sat at the small round table in the bedchamber as he set down the covered dish.
“What duties await you now?” you asked.
He blanched and blinked. He lowered his head as his muddy brown hair fell over his forehead. “I will wait for the king.”
“Will you sit with me?”
He raised his head and gaped at you. “I don’t-- I don’t know that it is permitted.”
“You are not allowed to speak with me?”
“The king has never said it but I do not… speak with many.” He confessed.
“Oh,” you lifted the lid of the plate, “Well, there is very much food here and I have a small stomach. I will need someone to share with and I must admit, I am lonely for company.”
“I don’t know,” he rubbed his hands together nervously.
“I will take the blame for it, if the king is displeased.” You offered, “What good does it do you sitting in the next room alone?”
His brows drew together and he looked around. Cautiously, he pulled out the other chair and sat. You pushed the plate to the middle of the table and took a chunk of cheese. He shyly took a slice of the thick bread and bit into it. You could see he was nervous. You caught his eyes on you several times and a blush upon his cheeks.
“I’m not a whore,” you said sharply. “The king might put me in the position but… I am just a woman.”
“I didn’t--”
“Well, we both know why I am here but I can’t bear you looking at me so.” You reproached. “I used to make pots and the like. I worked in a shop. I suspect I am little different than you.”
“The king says you are a criminal,” Hal nibbled between words.
“Well, in a sense, yes,” you tapped the table with your fingertips, “I ventured onto castle grounds without permission but it is no great crime.” You bent your arm on the wood and cupped your chin. “Does the king say anything else of me?”
“Not to me,” Hal took a carrot from the plate, “He commands me, that is all.”
“As he does me.” You sat up, “We are both bound to his will.”
The boy glanced away guiltily. “I don’t think you a whore. I’m sorry.”
“It is fine,” you assured him, “I am not offended. I would not share my plate if I was.”
He chewed for a time and took another morsel from the plate. Finally, he dared to look at you again.
“I’ve heard him… hurt you.” Hal said quietly, “You shouldn’t goad him so.”
You chuckled and took a deep breath. “It is not hard to do so.”
“But if you were more amenable--”
“You are young. You can’t understand,” you wiped your hands on your apron, “But my resistance is all I have. And there is nothing the king can offer me but pain, so I’d rather meet it with gull than grace.”
Hal frowned. He thought but only looked more confused. He sniffed and shifted in his seat.
“I should go prepare for the king,” he stood, “He is of little patience when his brother is near.”
“Alright,” you sat back, “I will not mention this to him.”
“Thank you,” Hal neared the door and paused as he looked back. He smiled before he ducked into the receiving chamber and your lips curved slightly in kind. Then his words settled in your mind, ‘prepare for the king’. You would have to deal with Loki eventually.
🐍
The door slammed and had you rigid. You spent the hours since your arrival pacing the room and watching through the window. Hal appeared once more to clear your plate but didn’t say much as he returned to the task of unpacking the king’s luggage.
You heard Loki’s voice from the receiving chamber and you went to the bedroom door. You peered through as he swayed on his feet and Hal struggled to unclasp his cap from his shoulders. The king was barely aware of the boy as he drunkenly smiled at the walls.
Finally, Hal freed the length of green silk and hung it. The king staggered forward and caught himself against the settee. His eyes flicked up and caught yours. He smirked and stood straight. He raised a finger.
“Boy, you can go. I trust I can tend to myself tonight,” Loki declared, “And I have help should I require it.”
Hal bowed his head with a quiet ‘your majesty’. He peeked over at you as he went to the door. He reluctantly left you and the door closed gently in his stead. The king ambled forward and reached out for you as he stumbled. You could only catch him as he threatened to topple.
“Look at you, mouse,” he slurred, “Dressed as a maid. How silly!”
He leaned on you heavily and too afraid to drop him, you turned and angled him into the bedroom. His arms fell down your back and he squeezed your ass through the layers of wool and linen. You grimaced and managed to get him onto one of the chairs. He sat sideways and slumped against the back with an arm bent over the top.
He hiccupped and pushed his legs apart. He swung his leg as he looked at you and hummed.
“Do take off that ridiculous attire,” he slithered, “You will serve me but I expect more than a dusting.”
You stared at him and hesitated. You touched the apron across your front and he sat up and snapped his fingers.
“I am your king!” He proclaimed. “I have bid you undress for me, wench!”
He slapped his thigh and you flinched. You reached back and untied the apron. You turned and tossed it over the low bench against the wall. You undid the straps of your smock and shimmied out of the skirt. You left it atop the apron and removed the long white linen underdress. Your shift slipped easily down your figure as you spun back to him and raised your chin.
You slid your feet from your slippers and rolled down the stockings. You stood naked and glared at him as he admired you. Your crossed your arms as his gaze made you shiver and he grabbed onto the chair as he nearly fell over.
“Here,” he waved you forward with two fingers, “Get me out of this...” he pushed himself to his feet with effort, “Shit!”
His voice warbled between quiet and loud as the alcohol made him clumsy. You crossed to him and his hands clapped your shoulders as he held himself up. You looked up at him as he leaned dangerously and reached up to unbutton the high collar of his overcoat. His hands fluttered up your neck and cradled your face.
He bent and his nose touched yours. He smiled and swayed you with him.
“You’re mad at me.” He sang. “I do love it when you sneer so.”
“I’m not mad,” you worked down the front of his jacket, “You need to stand straight so I can get this off.”
“I can hear it in your voice,” he stood and let his arms drop so you could push the brocade down them. “Or perhaps you are impatient. You wish a repeat of our last meeting.” He snickered, “Does your cunt ache for me?”
You tore his coat off entirely and strode away to hang it over a chair. When you returned to him, he bent for you to remove his tunic and his hands grazed you sides.
“I did expect a slap for that one,” he taunted, “I will only have to try harder…” He looked down, “Speaking of hard.”
His trousers tented as you unlaced them. He sat for you to slide his boots off with his socks and stood again as you pushed his leggings down. His erect member was hard to ignore as he was completely naked and unstable. You looked him in the face and narrowed your eyes.
“I am not angry at you because I despise you already,” you said, “It is hatred you feel from me.”
He chuckled and pulled you to him, his arms around your waist as he pressed himself to you.
“You hate what I make you feel because you are too proud to admit that you want me,” he purred, “And too afraid of what you’ve never known.”
“Oh, let go of me, you drunken fool,” you pushed on his arms. “You are like to have us both on the floor.”
He winked and slapped your ass again. He drew away but took your hand as he did. He neared the bed and sloppily snuffed the lamp with a blow. The chamber was dark as he flopped onto the mattress and dragged you down beside him. You snarled as he rolled you against him and stretched your arm across him. His other hand danced over the scars along your back.
“I am drunk,” he admitted and played with your hand, “I had to imbibe to bear my brother’s nonsense.” He guided your hand down and closed it around his cock. “And I do require a release as I find myself riled.”
You gripped him but did not move your hand as his fell away. You breathed darkly over his chest and his other arm hugged you tighter.
“Would you rather your mouth?” He taunted, he slipped his arm beneath yours and turned his body slightly, “Or you do long for reciprocity?”
He pushed his fingers between your legs and found your bud. You squeezed your thighs against him and he rubbed you roughly.
“Go on, don’t just hold it,” he hissed as toyed with you.
Slowly, you moved your hand up and down his length. Your legs twitched as your cunt slickened beneath his touch. He explored your folds as he held you to him and you stroked him almost without thought. Your hand kept time with him as he lured you to the edge and dangled you there. His breath smelled of wine as his grazed your skin and he pressed his nose against your hair.
“Come on,” he whispered, “Almost there.”
He shoved his hand between your legs and felt along your entrance. He pushed a finger inside and you gasped. Your rhythm faltered but he urged you on with a groan. You were too overwhelmed to stop. That unearthly delight began to gather in your loins, deeper as he slid another finger into and rocked his hand against your clit.
You rasped, then moaned, and felt his body begin to quake. The noise of your wet cunt underlined your heady pants and he had you on your back as he turned onto his side and kept you against him. Your legs splayed open around his hand and your eyes lolled back in your head.
You exclaimed as your walls clenched his fingers and you came. He climaxed in quick succession as warmth seeped down your palm and coated his member. He spasmed and pulled away from you as he grew overly sensitive but kept his fingers inside of you. He stilled his hand and sunk to his knuckles as he explored your depths.
“I can only imagine how you’ll feel around my cock,” he said. “But I should like to remember the first.”
He slipped his hand away from your cunt and sighed as he rolled onto his back. He lifted his fingers to his lips and licked them. He purred and sucked them clean before trailing down to his pelvis. He tutted.
“I am a mess,” he said, “You’ve made a mess of me.”
You sat up, trembling and turned to climb off the bed. “I will fetch a cloth then--”
“You will not,” he grabbed your arm as you held your wet hand aloft. “You will clean me up yourself.”
“Wha--”
“Your mouth,” he pushed your hand towards your face. “Taste me.”
You stared at the silhouette of your hand in horror. You hoped he could not see your face. You gulped and brought your hand to your lips. You touched your finger with the tip of your tongue and reluctantly dragged it over your skin. He released you and pushed himself up on his elbows as he watched you in the dim.
One, two, three, four fingers and your thumb. You lowered your hand in shame and he nodded at his loins. You stifled a grumble and bent over him. His cum had cooled and was sticky as you closed your eyes to the revolting task. He groaned as you tried not to hear him and when you finished, he pet your head like an obedient dog.
“Ah,” he sighed and drew you up against him once more, “I feel it. You are mad now.” He yawned and tickled your hip, “Perhaps we might take it up on the morrow.”
“You are vile,” you sneered.
He snickered and pinched your ass. “I never denied such a claim, little mouse.”

Virgil’s Book Signing
Summary: Virgil’s soulmate had left dark or disturbing thoughts appearing on his wrist so often he started writing story responses to them. Now releasing his third compliation of short stories is he meeting his most grateful fan, or his soulmate?
/\/\
Virgil's Soulmate had been the one to first start him writing, and his family the ones who had, behind his back, started sending those stories to writing competitions. Specifically his brother Logan had done so, using the excuse that it could be a profitable skill if Virgil only went the right way about releasing it to the world.
He didn't really believe that and remained more than happy with his job being steady work in the marketing department of a large local company. Virgil didn't see any trouble in letting his brother occasionally send his stories off though, so long as he didn't get forced into writing anything formal and only had limited occasions of doing publicity.
It seemed easier than arguing with Logan on the subjects, or pointing out how elevated his anxiety was about anyone outside of his family reading the stories, let alone complete strangers judging them. Besides, the fact Logan somehow got collections of his short stories published, giving him an extra source of income as well as another excuse to make his brother help or just plain do his taxes for him. Virgil wasn't the maths whiz between them and definitely needed all the reasons he could to make Logan help with taxes.
Besides, it did give him structure when Virgil wanted to travel. He could see more of the country on book signing events and actually use up those holiday days he earned. It didn't make sense to save them constantly over the years, especially when it would help the books sales.
The funniest thing was when media tried to dismiss the times he openly referred to his soulmates thoughts as an inspiration for his writing. People felt that being open over what your soulmate was thinking about was an invasion of privacy, especially when you hadn't met them yet, but Virgil had had to write or panic about who they were.
He'd spent a lot of his schooling panicking over the thoughts before a school counsellor suggested writing responses to the thoughts down, or making some kind of story about them. To be honest, Virgil had agreed that there must be some kind of story behind 'what if you jumped out of a moving car?' being followed the next day by 'could humans learn to speak dog by sniffing their butts?' and had been curious over how he could answer that.
Over the years the thoughts that would appear on his wrist in the evening got gradually darker, more sinister, but Virgil had grown to enjoy the horror genre anyway, so attempting to write short stories for it had been a challenge he willingly rose to.
If only his first 2 collections of short stories hadn't done so well his book signings now had to be booked ahead of time if there was a Q&A section.
/To his avid reader\
The thoughts that appeared on Remus's wrist so often concerned him sometimes. They were filled with so much doubt constantly, doubt over his soulmate's skills and their ability to deal with things, and occasionally just plain fears over something that's been in the news.
He tried to focus at least some time every day to just focus on sending positive thoughts to his Soulmate, hoping beyond hope that just maybe they would be the thoughts that got sent over that day. It didn't seem like Remus had managed to make that happen yet, and he dreaded to imagine that perhaps some of his intrusive thoughts appeared to them instead.
When something horrible or twisted wrapped itself around his brain, scaring Remus with just how dark the images he came up with could become, it could take all his focus up for hours or days. Reading different types of horror sometimes helped get the thoughts out of his head though, so he tried, kept an eye out for stories that seemed to match similar plots or themes to the ones his thoughts would repeat.
Being gifted a collection of short stories by V. Cowell had been a godsend a few years back, and even now, Remus would return to that original volume. With the other collection finally received as well as slowly accumulating the mixed collections that had one or two of V. Cowell's stories in them, it began to felt like his thoughts weren't terrifying so much as unfinished tales.
He wasn't alone in having these thoughts, just needed some guidance to find the conclusion of them and that was what he found in V. Cowell's stories. When he heard about the signing event being held by his local bookshop for a third collection by V. Cowell, Remus was already calling them to book his place at the event. He just had to meet the person who had helped him so much.
/Night of the Book Signing Event\
Remus was bouncing in his seat, clinging to the book and torn between immediately reading it and getting every memory he could of seeing V. Cowell. He'd never wanted to know about the writer but at the same time now he had been handed to chance to actually ask a question, or maybe even talk when he started signing books, there was just so much about Cowell he wished he knew.
“Good Evening Everyone. Welcome to our event this evening.” One of the managers of the shop had moved onto the podium they'd set up, waving to the audience while getting their attention.
A smattering of people clapped, while Remus just rolled his eyes, scanning the edges of the podium for a glimpse of his favourite writer. He was only half listening to the spiel the manager was saying, even less once he spotted someone hunching into a hoodie. They looked completely out of place, but also as though they'd argued with someone about what to wear because there was definitely a dress shirt and tie under the hoodie.
“So I introduce to the stage, Virgil Cowell, the author of the collection 'Every Soul in the Forest'.” Remus beamed, bouncing enough to get dirty looks from the people sat near to him as his hoodie clad man stepped up. His favourite author was breaking the unspoken dress codes and oh, Remus just liked him more for it.
The rest of the evening span by in a blur for Remus. He hung off of every word said, and actually got to ask what Virgil meant when he said the inspiration for his stories came from his soulmate. It almost made him dream that he was the one sending thoughts to V. Cowell when he described the stories as responses to thoughts that had unsettled him when they originally appeared. That felt like far too wonderful a thing to occur.
When he'd gone to get his book signed, he'd been giddy, only able to repeat a million times just how much the stories Virgil had already published had helped him. The writer had seemed a little stunned, but very grateful for the words, and the embroidered recreation of a scene from one of his stories Remus had brought with him. He hadn't intended to give it away, only just it as a grounding texture if needed, but when faced with meeting Virgil just saying thank you with words hadn't felt like enough.
He could do another embroidery anyway. The pin pricks even helped remind him of the real world sometimes.
Remus didn't even think to look at his wrist until he'd been trying to sleep, and finding himself too excited, for an hour. The words did anything except help him sleep.
'Nice Embroidery but this gratefulness for some stories I wrote really seems extreme. You okay, Bouncy?'
Either fate was incredibly cruel, or his soulmate actually, really, properly was V. Cowell.
/Back to the Writer\
Doing book signings was always exhausting for Virgil. It took a lot of energy to keep on socialising for people for as long as they lasted. By the time he'd had dinner and got back to his hotel all he wanted was to curl up in bed and sleep for the next day.
He still had to check his wrist first, know that his soulmate was alive, even if their thoughts rarely said if they were okay or not.
'It's truly V. Cowell. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Guess I can't just scream that at him. Have to find a better way to say... I have my embroidery with me!! That can say thank you, can't it?'
Virgil blinked at the words on his wrist, taking a moment to double, triple and quadruple check it wasn't his imagination that his wrist specifically mentioned meeting him.
Sometime through the entire Q&A, and the book signing afterwards, he had met his soulmate and apparently all they had wanted to do was thank him. That... That was the most wonderful, terrifying thing he'd ever heard. His soulmate would have some image of him in their minds when he probably wouldn't even...
Wait, the thought mentioned that embroidery he was given. He could remember the face and a man bouncing and hopping in front of the signing desk. The man who had actually asked how, rather than dismissing the idea that he got inspiration from his soulmate's thoughts.
The issue now would just be meeting the man again, when he only had the next day in town before travelling to the next event. He'd have to try going back to the bookshop at least.
He mentally  promised to do that while drifting off to sleep. Hopefully by the end of tomorrow he'd have his soulmate with him.
/Outside the Bookshop\
Virgil could see someone bouncing around the front of the store from the end of the street. Either his soulmate had come back hoping to see him again or just get contact information to write to him, or there were far too many bouncy people in his town.
“It's you!!! You did come back this morning! What thought did you get last night? Please tell me? Please, please please?” As soon as Virgil was close enough to be recognised the man was bounding over to him, seeming like the human embodiment of an over excited Labrador with the zoomies.
He had to snicker at the response, just pushing his sleeve up and holding his arm out. “So I'm guessing there was something in the thought you got which gave away it was me?” He muttered, wishing the quiet voice would stop them from getting attention, but knowing the exuberance of his soulmate that wouldn't work.
“Yep! You sent me a thought actually about me! Is my name Bouncy now? Do I need to introduce myself again? Can I run away and join your book tour and move in with you now? Or should I just become your biggest fan and follow you around without announcing that we're soulmates?” Bouncy definitely suited the man as he spoke a mile a minute, but Virgil shook his head.
“Let's go with an introduction and Bouncy can be a nickname for you.” He offered, before thinking the rest of the ramble through. “I can probably get you included on this book tour, but really don't want you immediately moving in. How about you finish the tour with me, then come back to sort out whatever things need doing for you to move to town? That'd give us time to at least get to know each other for a while, and give you a separate place for when we need space from each other.”
His Soulmate nodded, jumping forward to hug him for a second. “Fantastic! I'm Remus, and did you really write those stories to respond with my thoughts? I kept trying to send you comforting ones, but I guess I had no luck with that!”
“Great to meet you properly Remus, and well, I had to respond in some way to calm the anxiety some of those thoughts caused.” Virgil shrugged, but turned to lead them towards a cafe he'd spotted down the street.
Remus took his hand, watching him for a moment as though checking it was okay as he followed along. “They really helped me so much. I still just want to thank you for them more.”
“Given you literally got me a side job as a writer, I think we're even.” Virgil countered, smirking when that fact stunned Remus. He knew it would take a while to break the gratitude loop Remus seemed to be stuck in for him, but given it was his thoughts that were the inspiration, Virgil had the key to get through eventually.

Cutting ties might seem easier when someone else arrives and flips your world upside down with no warning.
Mostly fluff, bits of angst l8r
Female reader, but tried to not give any other specifics to the character themselves, OCs appear
It was a fresh autumn afternoon, birds still chirped before migrating to warmer areas for the winter, the wind was cold but nice, not yet freezing but enough for people to wear light coats. You sit on a school desk, a class about taxes and fees, you drift off a bit looking at the window while half-listening.
You lived in a medium but popular city, it was a great place, with nice, kind people for the most part, huge malls, restaurants and lots of places to go out with friends or alone.
...
"Miss ___? Care to answer this equation here for the class?" The teacher asks, a tall, slender woman that radiated authority, it made some students shiver in times like this with a direct question.
"Oh? Yeah- sure miss Adams" You replied, while trying not to look confused since you just missed the topic, hopefully you remembered from the last lesson by the time you walked up to the blackboard and took the marker to write.
...
After class, you were walking with your friends to the cafeteria next to the main exit to wait for an uber to arrive; your side job as a freelance wasn't good enough yet to afford a car, but it helped pay the bills and to have enough for a bit more more than the basic needs.
Your two best friends at college were Itai and Rob. Itai was a funny dude, with a darker tone on his skin, not so tall and full of charisma. Rob was a bit more collected, but still a lot of fun to be around, being the voice of reason for you three most of the time, emphasis in most, because sometimes he got carried away too.
"Man I hate that class, I don't understand a thing! Why do we even need math?" Itai tells the group, sounding annoyed as usual, he was a simple guy, but simple guys need a degree too, to secure a better job.
"Well if you paid attention instead of eating that cold baguette in class you won't be that confused my man" Rob replies, laughing a bit at the end
"At least you weren't asked to do math in front of the class" You sigh, putting down your backpack and sitting on a table next to the building's exit, looking at your phone to know how much time was left for the driver to arrive, around 10 minutes.
"Yeah everyone felt so bad for you, but hey, if you’ll be daydreaming at least look at the front instead of the window next time, it might help you" Rob said while opening a bottle of apple juice, his favorite, he wouldn't drink any other thing, he was probably 60% apple juice after years of drinking it that often.
A few minutes passed by, the three friends chatting about the day's events, their plans for the weekend, and how to get the next assignment done. A figure appeared behind you putting a hand on your shoulders.
"Well hello ladies!" A man chirped, you turned around laughing softly
"Hey yourself!" you replied "Already off?"
"Yeah I've got the last hour free so I'm gonna head out to Kris' place, we'll play some games and work on that big project I told you the other day"
"Great, have fun! You say hi to Kris from me yeah?"
"Sure thing, see you later!" He says with a squeeze of his hand on your shoulder, then a quick pat on the head, turning around to leave.
"Bye, take care Nick!" you say as the man walks out of the cafeteria's door waving a hand.
Silence lingers for a bit until Itai breaks it
"Hey so, you're still going out with him?" He says with a crooked smile and a nervous look, Rob has a similar expression
"Yeeeah... it's been okay for some time now, you know? Hah" You look down for a second, pondering "Maybe this time is the good run?" Uncertainty fills the question, but you still smile to your friends.
Nikolas wasn't the model boyfriend, at least not for your friends; he was full of sweet words, hugs and kisses, only in private places though. When it came to the campus he treated you just like any other friend.
There was a small reason, according to him, he wanted to wait a bit more to make it public, get to know each other better, just to be certain from both sides.
That was the excuse a year ago.
It wasn't like he was out and flirting with other people, not at all, but one could expect to be treated like a love partner after so much time and moments together, you’ve gone to the movies, to dinner, to each other's houses, hell your families knew you two were dating, it just wasn't more than the bare minimum from him, seemed more like a thing someone does if they have free time, not make time for that thing, the thing being the relationship.
It seemed to be only a problem of neglect and apathy, probably, though you were so dumbly in love with him at first, you have been hoping and asking for a change since the relationship escalated to more than just holding hands and light kisses.
"I don't think anything's gonna change, he's been stalling for a whole year now" Itai mumbled, looking at Rob, he nodded in agreement
"Yeah, just dump him already, you deserve way better, you give him everything you got and he just throws the leftovers at you."
"I guess, but we're going out this weekend! You know he doesn't like going out often"
"With you" Rob adds
You hesitate a reply, it was true, most of the times you asked him to go out for a change, he was either too busy or decided to change the event the same day, turning it into a make out session in his house every time. Even though you saw each other 2 days every week, you have seen him go out with his friends more often, on actual enrichment outside activities.
"I know..." you sigh " I'll think about it, I'll try to talk with him about it next time”
Both of your friends let out a small groan of annoyance, they knew you weren't gonna do it, or that he'll just brush it off as always, between the lines of 'oh you're overreacting'
"Ah my ride's here!" You got up from the table and grabbed your backpack, tossing it over one shoulder.
"See he can't even give you a lift to your place!" Itai teased, they knew how you felt about the whole situation, but joking around sometimes made it a bit less bitter.
"Ha-ha, you know we live in opposite ends of the city! Besides none of you give me a ride either" you said while sticking a tongue out on your way outside the cafeteria
"Yeah because you live at the ends of the earth for some weird reason!" Rob joked back
Everyone said their quick goodbyes, and after a calm ride back home you remembered something just as you were locking the door, tossing your backpack into the living room’s couch you walked over to your room.
You flopped onto the bed, looking at your phone you opened some pending messages on the family group chat, apparently a distant relative of yours had died, and the family was gonna hold a small funeral tomorrow morning on the local cemetery, you didn’t enjoy those kind of events since you’d get really emotional, but since it was something really small, no more than 20 people, it was private and most likely no strangers would see you cry over someone you barely knew.
Tomorrow was saturday so it was okay to spend one free morning humoring your family.
After some mindless browsing on your phone, it was already 12:30am, you haven’t even got off your sneakers since you got home, you did a quick self-cleanup in the bathroom, tossing today’s clothes to the side to change into an oversized shirt with no pants as a makeup pijamas, it got a bit warmer in the afternoon so you wanted to enjoy wearing something light before winter fully arrived, getting under the sheets and you were out fast, maybe from all the overthinking of what’d tomorrow might bring, you’ve forgotten what are funerals like.
But there was certainly no way you’d know what would happen at all the next day
...
The event was simple, thankfully there was not much crying, seemed like everyone accepted already what had happened, some kind of illness you heard, at least they weren’t suffering anymore and they’ve come to terms with everyone close to them, that was nice you thought, it sure felt a bit heavy in there, as usual for funerals. After the ceremony, the family offered a barbeque in the departed’s honor to bright up the mood a bit; right at the cementery, maybe it was cheaper than renting a place for it.
Free tasty food was something only an idiot would decline, so you spent some time doing small talk with the relatives you knew best, but still you mostly just listened and ate in silence.
You saw a glimpse of color and movement out of the corner of your eye, since everyone was wearing dark tones it stood out, turning your head there was just an empty plastic table with some half-full plates and glasses, still, you felt a shiver up your spine, it was probably the weather.
When you looked back at your phone's clock it was already 6 pm, guess dad jokes and food made time fly, you said your goodbyes and condolences to everyone and headed out, you were still at the cemetery, so you had to call a ride back home, the driver dropped you near a convenience store just around the corner of your apartment, since you needed to buy a snack for dinner, on sundays you usually had takeout, so no need to worry much about it right now.
_______________________________________________________
“I know I didn’t imagine anything, that breather saw me at the cemetery! we even locked eyes for a second! It may work this time, just gotta get closer while they're alone”
_______________________________________________________
Walking down the street, humming a bit to some music and a bag of snacks in hand, dusk started to set, some stars could be seen and the sky was a beautiful fuchsia tone with oranges and purples mixed in the clouds. On instinct, you took your phone out of your jeans pocket to take a picture of the cute sky.
Just as you took a couple of pictures, to make sure at least one was good to share, something caught your attention out of the corner of your eye again
You felt a shiver like a cold wind out of nowhere, similar as to when a car drives a bit too close to someone on winter, but there was not even one driving car on the street.
"Oof, should get back now, it's getting colder" picking up the peace to get home faster-
A piece of paper slapped you in the face
“EW- wind trash” you muttered while grabbing what seemed to be a flyer, and it flew indeed.
You naturally took a closer look at it when you took it into your hands and out of your face, it was a very faded print, with an image of an… insect? man? holding a hammer over a small house and people, you chuckled, it was a funny irony cartoon, a bug crushing people.
Half of the flyer was unreadable because of some liquid or dirt, already dry but you couldn’t read what was supposed to be, written under the drawing was the end of an ad;
“Ghostly services one name away!
RESIDENTIAL - INDUSTRIAL - COMMERCIAL
Call BETELGEUSE
BETELGEUSE
BETELGEUSE!”
“Betelgeuse? ...Like that one star?” There was that shiver again, Halloween was a week ago, so this kind of paper seemed normal to be hanging around with the wind.
As you walked down the street, some lights started flickering, the cold wind seemed stronger and the sky was a deep dark purple now, strange, it was supposed to be clear dark blue by now, fall nights came quickly this time of the year, still it didn't feel like the usual night. You were just around the corner of your street when the closest light bulb exploded and zapped with a loud 'CRASH', making you stop for a second cowering from the shards
"What the-!? No one told me we'd be getting winter thunderstorms sooner what the eff" muttering swears you made a run to your apartment, scurrying for the door keys in the process, lights kept flashing and the wind made windows sing a high 'oooo' noise, you have seen this kind of weather before but no one would like to be outside when it happened, nervously and quickly you finally fit the key in the lock and opened the door, hurrying inside and closing it behind, a loud bang thundered through the silent room, the unexpected storm slamming against the walls and windows, you left the lights on before going out.
After a minute it seemed to calm down, wind turning into a breeze and the sky now it's usual black, no stars in the sky.
You let out a sigh and walked to the counter to drop your keys, the phone and your purse, you had to make sure all the windows were closed for the night, luckily it was Saturday, so no need to go out tomorrow on that crazy weather.
Windows secured, you changed into your winter pajamas, a gray pair of pants with a pattern of a cat on toast and eggs, with a pastel blue loose shirt. Making your way to the kitchen you decided a light snack would be enough for tonight, after that run and emotion on the way back home you had no energy to cook a proper dinner, not even microwave, it was also too late for it anyways you thought.
You put the snack bowl and a cup of water on the kitchen counter, looking to grab your phone. You noticed you still had the dirty flyer, forgot to drop it between the commotion maybe?
Placing it aside and unlocking your phone screen, you opened the ‘best friend's’ chat group
You. 'Hey guys, did you get any of that weird winter storm action today after school?'
Rob. 'Nah, it was a clear sky for me'
Itai. 'Same, also I was asleep all afternoon'
You. 'Strange, I got caught on this whirlwind on my way back home from the store, just my luck I guess >:('
Both of the boys. 'Lol yea'
Putting the phone down and chomping on some of the snacks, you thought about the events, it was indeed a clear sky earlier, only a couple of common clouds you took pictures of before it. You grabbed the phone again, quickly to see if any of the photos looked good.
"Pleasepleaseplease" you muttered in excitement, it was a very cute view, hopefully one picture captured it nicely.
And they did, a couple looked stunning, you smiled, thinking at least it was worth getting your hair all messed up by the wind, you were about to delete one picture it since it was blurry when you noticed a different kind of blur, it was gray with splashes of green in the corner, similar to what you saw at the funeral.
"There was nothing green on the other pictures, was it?" you looked through the other photos and they were pretty normal, full of pink, purple and blue from the sunset.
You looked back at the flyer
"Betelgeuse, betelgeuse, betelgeuse huh" You said in a playful tone, grabbing the torn paper from the counter, you felt a shiver, a strong one this time, well that was the opposite of a calming experience, but still the word felt strange when you said it, it wasn't like you hadn't said before, Orion was a popular constellation, and the Betelgeuse star was on it; but this time the air inside had a tense feeling.
All the lights went off after a second "Now a blackout? What's with today ugh" picking up your phone to use as a flashlight, after a couple of seconds before you could turn it on, all the lights came back again, but you almost had a heart attack when you saw someone standing in the center of the living room, enveloped in a green mist.
"FUCK wh- WHO THE FUCK-" you stuttered before turning around and grabbing the closest thing to use as a weapon, a wooden spoon used for beating eggs this morning "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE? WHO ARE YOU? GET OUT!"
The figure was a man, taller than you, dressed in a striped black and white suit, dark hair with green tints at the end, a wicked smile plastered on his face, he took a look around, then back to you, endless chills went down your spine when you met his eyes, you could feel the tense aura from before growing stronger, anticipating, colder.
"Well who might I be? You should know, you called my name baby! Glad to make some business with you tonight!" He said as he extended a hand and walked, floated? quickly towards a paralized you, frozen in place, you only managed to put the spoon up in self defense from whomever this man could be, the lights were out for just a few seconds, was he inside the apartment all this time?
"S-stop right there you!" tried to threaten the man with the wooden tool, he didn't seem to notice nor care, wrapping an arm around your shoulders, then placing a sloppy kiss in your face, petrified, you shivered and gripped the spoon harder, he felt oddly cold.
...Did he just kiss you? Who does he think he is??
"No no, no stopping now! We just got started cakes, and now that you said my name three times, I can finally interact with you and everything here in the world of the living! Gotta say thanks it's been real boring being invisible for so long lemme tell ya-"
*WHACK*
You hit the man in the head with the wooden spoon as hard as you could.
...the spoon broke.
The man's smile grew wider

B's birthday party! (Platonic drabble)
Summary: What better way to spend your birthday with the people you're closest to!
Warnings: Mentions of food but that's it I think
A/N: T is a random character I created that represents your moots/reader's! Just so I doesn't get confusing. I tried to write T as gender neutral, I'm very sorry if I slipped up at all. I wrote it in a more low-key chill birthday feeling. Some people love to go all out for birthdays but just spending it with the people closest to you can be just as amazing! I wrote this kind of quickly so I apologise for any grammer mistakes. Happy birthday B! Thank you for all the amazing stories you put out and all the amazing things that you do! I hope you enjoy!!! 🎉🎉🎉@alpacaparkaseok

(not my gif but absolutely cute none the less)

"Did you send her the text?" Hobi asks eyeing the way Namjoon was holding the cake. It was balancing on a box and Namjoon was holding it as tenderly as he could. The cake might as well be a baby the way he was craddling it.
Who let him hold the cake?
"Yes, T said they are on their way now." V answers.
"Bren is going to be so surprised!" Jimin says bouncing in his spot from excitement.
"Hey stop doing that! Do you want a repeat of last year?" Yoongi asked. All the members cringed at the thought of Bren's last birthday.
That year the group wasn't able to plan that well due to touring schedules, and promotions. The cake they ordered got delivered to the wrong address and they had to get a green vanilla cake, they wanted to go to the movies, have a nice celebration at the park, and just give their close friend a fun day.
The cake fell on the floor, the movie that they went to see had a horrible ending, and the park was public so they had no privacy what so ever. Bren pretended to not be affected but it was obvious her birthday was ruined.
Well, that just won't do this year!
Months before this day Bren and T were at the sink doing dishes after they all had dinner together. Bren, softly humming and washing while T was drying them. The night was still young, it created a dim lighting in the kitchen.
"So...just out of curiosity...what are you thinking of doing for your birthday?" T asked after picking up another plate to dry.
"My birthday?" Bren asked. "That's not for another six months."
"Yeah but ya know...just wondering."
"Ummm...well, I'm probably just going to do something small. Maybe stay home, have a nice dinner?"
"That's it?"
"Yeah, just something low-key..."
T nodded their head nonchalantly. Their mind was racing though thinking of ways to make Bren's next birthday fun but chill.
Then they got to work. Hopefully today, it would all pay off.
"Just put the cake up until we finish dinner " Jin orders the younger members. Namjoon obeys and puts the cake in the kitchen. Making sure all of the food was set and ready in the dining room.
T lead Bren into the apartment building both of them all dolled up. Bren looked beautiful. Her hair curled, a very beautiful party dress and heels to match. T held her hand going through the hallways and onto the elevator hearing an occasional "ow" come from Bren.
"Sorry, so sorry!" They would respond.
They got up to the apartment and just before entering T took off Bren's blindfold. Not leaving any time for questions T rings the doorbell as a signal and opens the door.
It was dark upon entering but soon the lights turned on and the sound of air horns went off.
"Happy birthday!" The seven members jumped out of the doors and suprised their best friend Bren. She jumped slightly not expecting that. Each member had on a little party hat and a wide grin.
"Aw!" She shouts happily. The members gather around her crushing her in a warm hug.
Yoongi grabbed her hand and led her to the dining room. With everyone else following behind.
"We made you a nice dinner!" Hobi says not being able to keep his excitement down.
Bren walked into the dining room she had been in what felt like hundreds of times. Only this time it was covered with so many decorations she almost didn't recognize it. Banners with her favorite colors all over the walls, balloons and pictures took up the space that the banners couldn't reach.
"Come sit!" Jin says pulling out her chair for her.
Bren takes the opportunity to look at the table. Her favorite cuisines cover the table. She wasn't expecting this when he said a nice dinner. It was sides, main dishes, and her choice of drink. It looked like a piece of art.
"Wow!" She exclaimed sitting down excitedly. The savory smells filled her nostrils making her feel ready to grab at everything. It seems everyone else was ready to eat too, judging by the way they were practically watering at the mouth.
"How long did it take you guys to make all this?" She wonders aloud.
"Ah don't mind that." Jin says, since he was mainly in charge and it was his idea to make your favorite cuisine. "What matters is it will be delicious!"
"Let's eat!" Namjoon says loudly.
And with that everyone dug in. The eight of them at the table ate and talked for hours. They laughed and teased each other, becoming somewhat closer, if that was even possible. As they celebrated their friends birthday under the warm lights in the dining room, they looked and felt like a family.
****************
Hours after dinner was done and the dining room had been cleaned, they started to bring out the cake. Namjoon lit the cake and T held it, bringing it into the dining room.
Bren's smile seemed to be never ending this night. A yellow spice cake was placed in front of her with little flowers and icing on top that said, "Happy birthday Bren" on it. It was a really lovely looking cake.
They all sang happy birthday to Bren and had her make a wish before she blew out the candles.
***************
As they were all eating their cake the maknaes suspiciously stood up and left to get something. They came back standing shoulder to shoulder with their hands behind their back.
"We have something to give you." Jimin sang holding out his hand for B to take. He helped her to stand and then pulled a box out from behind his back.
"Um, B this is from us." V said becoming a little shy. T stood up quietly and grabbed the camera.
B looked down and looked at the small dark blue box. It had a lot of fancy letters on it that made it hard to read the brand. When she opened the box there were two dazzling earrings that shined at her. Not only the earring but the ring right in between then. Bren picked up the ring first with a bright smile.
"It's a matching one!" Jungkook exclaims. Looking towards the youngest members they all showed off the silver ring on their finger. They gifted her a friendship ring as the honorary member of the maknae line.
"Oh my gosh, that's so cool!" Bren exclaimed. She put the box down on the table and gave them each a hug. "Thank you I love them both!"
She stepped away and excitedly put the earrings in her ears. "How do they look?"
"Great!"
"Amazing!"
"Incredible!"
"Beautiful!"
Bren smiled and rolled her eyes at the members constantly trying to one up each other.
"Alright now our present!" Jhope says clapping his hands excitedly. Yoongi left the room and came back with a much larger box. The wrapping was a very pretty green with sparkles on it. He placed the box in front of B with a cute little smile.
"Okay open it!" Namjoon says.
Bren tears open the wrapping and sees a shoe box. Her curiosity peaks even more. When she opens the shoe box, she gasps. It was costum made chunky heels. Exactly her size and a type of pattern she has never seen before. A pair that was like her dream pair of shoes.
"Wow!" She shouts. Bren picked up one of the shoes and started to examine it. "These are amazing!" She grins.
Bren puts it gently back in the box before giving the older members a hug. "I love them, thank you guys!"
"Thank you all for the gifts!" She says putting everything back in their box. The members smiled proudly, they were happy B enjoyed their gifts. It brought them happiness knowing their best friend enjoy the gifts they spent a lot of time thinking of. T snapped the perfect picture of that moment.
***************
After presents they realized how late it was getting. The stars were already starting to show. It was decided that B would stay in the guest bedroom that night.
"You can go change, there is another present in there from me!" T said rushing Bren into that bedroom before going back into the living room. The members had all changed as well into comfy clothes and we're deciding on a movie to watch.
"Put on Anastasia!" T says stopping the debate going on between them. "It's on of B's favorites."
"Oh that's right!" V said as Jungkook switched to play it.
"Alright, T you're on dish duty!" Namjoon said coming out of the kitchen with Jimin after they had finished cleaning the kitchen.
T stayed silent but pulled a face. T hated doing dishes but they knew they had to pull their weight.
"I can do it." B says coming back into the room after getting changed in her new pajamas, gifted by T. The sleepwear was extremely cute and insanely soft. B felt like she was covered in a cloud.
"Well we wouldn't make someone wash dishes on their birthday!" Jungkook says.
"It's fine I don't mind!" Bren smiles. T mouthed 'thank you' and blew a playful kiss to Bren.
"Hey don't steal my move!" Jin whines. Bren chuckled softly and made her way to the kitchen.
"I'll help!" Jhope says jumping up from his spot to lend a hand to the dish washing.
The dishes were done quicker than expected and soon everyone was comfortable in front of the TV. On the chairs were Yoongi and Jin, Namjoon and J-Hope sat on the loveseat, Jungkook, V, and T were cozy on the floor, and B was with Jimin on the couch. As the movie plays everyone sang along or in B's case, recited the lines by heart.
The night ended with a sense of comfort in the air. They were all right where they wanted to be. Watching Anastaia as the hours rolled by, each eye lid slowly closed and they fell asleep. Jin was coming back from the kitchen after getting a drink of water when he saw B's head droop. He smiled softly picking up her head gently and laying in back on the pillow. A silver flash caught his attention and he noticed she was still wearing her new ring.
Jin picked up a blanket and placed it over her making sure she wouldn't get cold. He hoped the day was a great as she wanted it to be. Every sleeping eye in that room loved and cared for her and they wanted to make sure her birthday was a special as her.
As she was losing consiousness she felt a kiss on her head and heard a faint, "Happy birthday Bren."

Summary: Carol takes her motto to heart: higher, further, faster.
Word Count: 3515
A/N: I am so sorry for being on hiatus for the past few months but I’m back. I hope I did Carol justice on this one. Let me know what you guys think, please. xx
Parts: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4  | 6
***
Tumblr media
You arrived bright early the day after you signed up to be the newest agent at SHIELD. You were just entering the command center when you bumped into your immediate supervisor, Deputy Director Hill.
“Agent Stark-” The millisecond that it took her to glance at the watch behind you told you she wasn’t expecting you to be early again but Maria remembered she promised to stop having preconceived notions towards you based on her knowledge of your brother alone. She smiled genuinely. “Good morning.”
“Good morning -” You hesitated. Maria motioned for you to follow her.
“Agent Hill is fine.” Maria rounded a more secluded corner, you fell in-step with her. She eyed you sideways. “Maria when no one else is around.”
You cocked your head to the side in silent question. Maria shrugged. “Can’t have other agents thinking I have favourites.”
“You have favourites?” You asked teasingly. Maria stopped in front of a huge glass door with one side open to reveal the gym.
“I do not.” You looked at her with bright eyes, and she knew you didn’t believe her. She rolled her eyes at you playfully. “I do however want to be your friend.”
That stopped you from teasing her further and staring at her intently for a minute. “I would love that,” you said sincerely before walking deeper inside the gym. Maria watched you talk to some of Agent Colson’s team for a few minutes, making sure no one will give a weird treatment.
“I think you might actually have a favourite.”
Maria didn’t even flinch when she heard Carol’s voice behind her. “Oh shut up, I -” Carol cut her off by wrapping her arms around her waist and giving her a soft kiss on the cheeks.
“You don’t have to explain your crush to me Mar,” Carol said while leaning her chin on Maria’s shoulder, watching you now too. “Besides if you explain, you’ll be late for your meeting with Nick.”
Shit. She almost forgot. She immediately untangled herself from Carol’s arms and gave the blonde and quick kiss on the lips. “Keep her company will you?”
“But I’m busy -” Carol tried to reason.
Maria who’s almost at the corner stopped to look at her girlfriend sternly. “You wouldn’t be here loitering around if you are.” Then she’s gone.
***
Being asleep for a long time, made you rusty when it comes to social interactions but not any less perceptive. You can feel everyone staring at you since you walked inside the gym, you can feel that people are wary of you. You guess, the word does travel fast. Thankfully some of the agents from Agent Colson’s team saw you and waved you over.
“Hey! We heard you’re officially on board,” Agent Simmons, you remembered, said cheerfully.
“Welcome to the fam,” Leo greeted sincerely. You smiled softly, “thank you.”
“Are you here to train?” Agent May asked.
“Yes but no one wants to train with an inhuman.” You hide the awkwardness with a smile, subconsciously waiting for someone to flinch.
“Ugh,” Agent Grant moaned. “Would totally want to spar with you-”
“Me too but we’re about to go on duty,” Leo interjected.
“Next time,” you said with a smile. You like this team, they’re all nice and genuinely warm. Colson’s team was just about to exit the gym when Carol walks in.
“I’ll spar with you.” Everyone stopped and stared as the blonde continued to walk towards you with the confidence and swag only an Avenger can muster. “Unless you’re scared.”
You let out a full belly laugh, cutting Carol off. Instead of being offended, she was enthralled by how realistic it sounded. She wanted to hear it again. More importantly, out of the blue, she wants to be at the least one of the reason for you to laugh again.
“You’re on, Captain,” you said hopping on the mat with her.
***
Carol looked you up and down unabashed. Had you been fully human, you would have blushed with the way she checks you out openly. You cleared your throat to gain her attention. “Rules?” you asked with a confident smirk to hide your nerves.
“No weapons of any kind.”
“That’s it?” you asked while wrapping a bandage around your knuckles. You didn’t really have to but it gives you some sense of normalcy.
Carol shrugged. “Too many rules take the fun out of everything,” she said cheerfully.
You chuckled, making Carol cock her eyebrow at you. “I guess that makes you the fun one, huh?”
Carol made a lightning-fast move to cover your mouth. “Don’t let them hear you say that,” she whispered while pretending to look around for her girlfriends.
You rolled your eyes playfully before, in an equally fast move, you threw Carol down the mat. Carol gaped at you from the floor for a minute before breaking into a grin. You offered her a hand but instead of getting up, she pulled you down with her and rolled around until she pinned you in the mat. You groaned and it took a little longer than usual to shrug Carol off of you.
“Not bad, Stark. Where’d you learn how to fight?” Carol asked smiling while you two circle each other.
“Tony insisted that I take lessons before I started school.” You blocked a heavy punch to the side of your face. “He said I’m not allowed to use my inventions on other kids, so I’d have to learn how to protect myself another way.”
“Smart,” Carol commented unnecessarily since everyone knew Tony’s beyond smart; he was a genius.
You kept attacking each other with unrestrained force, rendering the rest of the agents who were doing their morning routines to stop working out completely. You caught a glimpse of the little audience gathering at the edge of the mat from your peripheral, distracting your momentarily. Carol used the opportunity to land a heavy blow on your left cheek.
An audible crack can be heard from the stillness of the room, followed by a collective gasp.
“Oh my God, Y/N,” Carol worried. “I’m so sorry. I got carried away.”
Carol chewed at her bottom lip when you wouldn’t lift your head and meet her eyes. Then you started giggling. “Y/N?” She asked softly.
Carol’s forehead crinkled adorably in confusion. You silently thank the universe for being inhuman because had you been otherwise, you surely would have been vomiting blood by now. You’re also thankful that Tony used only the best materials available in the world for you shell because had any of it been subpar, you’re sure that your cheeks or even your whole skull would have cracked.
Then you looked up at Carol with a smile. “Again,” you said while going on a fighting stance.
You used Carol’s hesitation to launch an attack. Carol struggled at first, overwhelmed by her momentary worry and the sudden increase in your speed and strength. Carol smiled realizing that she just found someone she can spar without holding back. Before she can retaliate though, Maria’s voice cut through the room.
“Enough you two,” she said calmly. You and Carol immediately dropped your fighting stance to regard Agent Hill. You just noticed then that Carol’s heaving, you bite the inside of your cheeks to keep yourself from smiling. “Agent Stark, clean up and meet me at the command centre after lunch.”
You nodded before thanking Carol for her time and hopping off the mat. “Spar again, soon?” Carol asked hopefully before you can exit the room. You just smiled at her and nodded. The rest of the morning stragglers went on their way to the showers to clean up as well, leaving Carol and Maria alone.
When everyone was out, Maria threw a towel to her blonde girlfriend’s face. “Just how long were you two at it?”
Carol grinned before sitting down. “Around after you left,” she answered before chugging down a bottle of water.
“Four hours?” Maria nearly yelled in her surprise.
“I guess.”
Maria stared at her girlfriend for a while. None of the Avengers ever trained with Carol that long, not even Natasha. Her surprise turns into a warm smile as she watches Carol smiling softly to herself.
“Oh Mar, she’s amazing!” Carol can’t stop herself from gushing about your strength, your fighting techniques, and your elegance. “Dare I say, she’s as elegant and deadly as Natasha.”
Maria smiled, wondering what Nat would feel if she heard Carol say that. She listened intently and patiently as Carol talk her head off about you all the way to her office where they’re supposed to eat lunch together.
“What?” Carol asked after she sat across Maria’s massive table. Maria opened multiple food containers in front of them.
She looked up at Carol. “I’m not giving her up to The Avengers,” Maria declared confidently.
Carol’s smile was wicked. “Not yet,” she challenged.
“We’ll see about that.”
***
Ever since the first time you two sparred, Carol always finds an excuse to go to the HQ to train with you. You really don’t mind, spending time with Carol, albeit just in the mat, is surely always fun. Captain Marvel is fun. She’s a perfect combination of chill yet intense when need be. She’s also ridiculously flirty, which you chuck as just within her nature and not because she’s actually attracted to you.
But most especially, the reason why you absolutely love spending time with Carol was that she doesn’t treat you any differently. Some of the agents at work are either too polite because you’re a Stark or too aloof because you’re inhuman. You appreciate her and Maria for making you feel a certain degree of normalcy, and more importantly, they make you feel like you belong. So when Carol showed up at the Stark Tower on your day off, you welcomed her with a bright smile.
“Hello Captain, what do I owe the pleasure?” You voice heavy with teasing. Carol tried not to think too much about the way you said the word pleasure but by the growing smirk on your face, she knew she wasn’t doing a very good job at hiding how that simple word made her hot all over.
She cleared her throat before speaking up. “I bumped into Happy at HQ and he told me that today’s your day off,” she trailed off a little when you closed the hood of your car and stood beside it, revealing your choice of outfit for the day. You watched her take in your simple grey shirt, denim mini skirt, and black boots. You cleared your throat, and you chuckled when she visibly shook her head to clear her thoughts. “I was just wondering if you want to do something fun today?”
You wiped the grease from your hand using a dry towel before walking up to the blonde. You stopped a foot away, making Carol sweat unnecessarily. “I would but you have to be honest with me first,” you whispered, holding her beautiful hazel eyes.
“Always.”
“Did you really bump into Happy or were you looking for me today?”
“Shit. Happy snitched on me, didn’t he?” Carol groaned, making you laugh. Carol crossed her arm and pouted.
“Do I need to change for where we’re going?” You asked walking pass the blonde to go inside your suite. Carol turned just in time to have a perfect view of your ass in denim mini skirt. You laughed again, having perfectly timed your walk.
“Yes, change to your Phantom suit.”
That made you pause and turn back to her. Carol shrugged with a huge smile on her face, not giving you any clue at all to where she’s taking you.
***
You gaped at Carol when you landed on her idea of fun. You took your suit’s helmet to have a better, unobstructed view of your surroundings.
“No fucking way,” you said in pure excitement while moving in circles to take in everything.
“It’s not much now since it’s been abandoned for a long time but -”
Carol didn’t get to finish her sentence before you cut her off by jumping at her and giving her a tight hug. Carol wished to whatever higher entity there is out there for you not to hear or feel how hard her heart was beating in her chest at the way you feel against her arms.
“Are you kidding me?” You still didn’t extricate yourself from her. “You brought me to a freaking space station.”
Carol chuckled. “Abandoned space station,” she corrected with a smile.
This time you untangled your arms from around her, much to Carol’s disappointment. “Semantics,” you said before walking ahead. Carol watched you look at everything with childlike wonder. “I never thought I’d ever been able to step in one.”
“Oh don’t be modest, given your intelligence and credentials, you totally could,” she countered earnestly.
“Maybe but I like working at SHIELD.”
“Why?” Carol asked. Not because doesn’t think you’re fit for the job but because she’s genuinely curious. You can be anywhere in the world, yet you chose to stay and sign a contract with SHIELD.
You run your fingers across the decaying console on the main deck before looking ahead, into the stars before turning back towards Carol, with your ass and hands resting on the edge of the table. “I can protect the people I love better with SHIELD than all alone.”
“The people you love?” Carol stepped closer to you.
“Pepper, Morgan, Happy…” you paused to watch Carol inch closer to you some more. “…and my friends: you, Nat, Maria.”
“Are we friends, Y/N?”
You tried to hide it but you visibly gulped at her proximity. “Aren’t we?” you asked, lips curling into a soft smirk.
For the past few months, this has been your dynamics with Carol: playful banter and harmless flirting. You’re used to it by now but the longer it goes on, the harder it is to ignore your growing attraction to the blonde. Which would be totally fine, if she’s single but you have to remind yourself every day that she’s not.
Carol had to step back too to ground herself. She’s moving too fast, she knows it. She knew she had other people to consider too. Apart from Maria who’s obviously on the same boat as her, she hasn’t really talked to Nat and Wanda about her attraction towards you. She knew Maria hasn’t mentioned anything yet either because it’s too early.
“We are,” she whispered.
“Good, I’d really like that.”
Before Carol can say anything, her stomach grumbled loudly. She turned beet red while you started laughing. Just like that the tense atmosphere’s gone. You took her hand and led her back to the ship. “Thank you for taking me here, Carol but I think it’s time to go home.”
Carol’s relishing the feeling of your hand in hers when her stomach protested again. She joined in when you started laughing again. “I don’t need to be told twice,” she grumbled playfully before pulling you to a run.
***
Carol walked into the command centre after her appointed meeting with Nick to see if Maria wants to grab lunch together. She faltered on her step when she saw the worried face Maria was sporting.
“Hey-” Carol greeted cautiously. Maria turned back and gave her a quick smile.
“Hey. Meeting’s over already?”
Carol ignored the question and stood next to her girlfriend. “What’s wrong?”
Maria’s eyebrows crinkled together further. “Nothing,” she whispered before turning to the monitors in front of her. Carol was just about to ask where you are since you’ve been working closely with Maria since you started a couple of months ago when Carol saw your name on the board.
Suddenly, she understood why Maria look worried. “Why is Y/N out with Agent Colson’s team?” Carol tried to hide the concern in her voice but Maria knew better.
Maria sat in her swivel chair. “They’re down one person for today’s recon mission. Nick decided she’s ready for fieldwork,” Maria sighed.
Carol took a deep breath. She knows that you can very much handle yourself out there but it doesn’t mean they can’t be worried.
“She’ll be fine.” Carol and Maria looked behind them. They’ve been so engrossed in worrying about you, they didn’t even hear Happy approached.
“Need I remind you that she’s a Stark?” Happy asked smiling. Carol chewed on her bottom lip. “Besides, she trained with only the best around here.”
That made Carol and Maria relax a little. “She will be fine,” they both murmured to themselves before their phones simultaneously lit up with a message from Natasha, asking them to meet them in town for a quick lunch.
***
Carol was having a quick trip off-world to check on a nearby planet when she received a message from Nick. She left a sizeable crater on the lawn of the HQ when she landed, almost knocked down a wall, and almost took off the door from its hinges in hurry to get to you. Carol’s heartache when she saw you on a hospital gown, lying side by side with a sleeping Maria.
“Hey,” you whispered as not to wake up the agent beside you.
“Hi,” Carol greeted back. She wanted to move towards you but her knees felt like lead as the adrenaline leaves her body. “You’re safe -”
You smiled sheepishly. “I’m so -”
Carol cut your apology off by nearly tackling you and Maria out of the bed. “Settle down, Carol. She’s alright. She’s home now,” Maria grumbled, cuddling next to you further; face buried in your neck.
Carol looked at her sleeping girlfriend “I think the repair stressed the living daylight out of Maria,” you whispered, squished between the two women.
“You think?” Carol hopped on the bed, squishing herself on your other side. “She’s been worried since you left for the mission.”
“I’m sorry. It was an ambush,” you started to explain but Carol started snoring softly with one arm and leg swung over your body cut your explanation off.
You were smiling to yourself when Natasha entered the room with a quietness that only the Black Widow can do. Your eyes met, Natasha looked a little conflicted. “Shouldn’t you be the one sleeping?” she asked teasingly.
You shrugged with a smile. You patted your lap. “You look like you can use a nap too,” you said softly.
Carol and Maria opened their eyes momentarily to look at their redhead girlfriend, and together they patted your lap before resuming their previous sleep position.

                                         ☾ 一一一一一一一一一 ☽
"Are you gonna put that down?" Nate's voice sounded gentle even when his eyes looked at him in concern. As a response, Mason took another drag of the cigarette before letting it fall to the floor and stumping it with his boot.
"We gonna go inside or what?" He pretended he wasn't worried.
A week had gone by since his last encounter with the detective. Since he last heard her voice, tasted her lips, looked into her eyes.
And it was goddamned near killing him.
It hadn't been the last time he had seen her -thank God- since he had checked on her more times than he would admit willingly. The sight of her running down the street, away from his words, away from him, made him ache in a way he wasn't used to. The strange pull on his chest, tightening, constricting, had nothing to do with the kind of aching she used to inflict on him. When that tightening sensation was on the pit on his stomach, a heat surging on his lower belly and expanding.
When she teased him relentlessly, her usually shy persona changing dramatically the moment they were alone in her bedroom - and her hallway, and her kitchen, and her couch. That aching, he could get used to.
This one, nonetheless… was awful.
He had been inside the SUV the next morning, a cloud of smoke surrounding him when she exited her apartment to leave towards the station. Her bright red hair was pulled up in a ponytail, half her face hidden behind a pair of large sunglasses.
"Come on, sweetheart, let me see your face." He muttered to himself as he watched her advance to her beat up car, long fingers drumming on the steering wheel nervously. But she didn't comply. Instead he saw her get in the driver's seat and take a shuddering breath while she checked her phone, apparently not finding in its screen what she hoped for.
Did she wipe her cheeks with her sleeve?
He waited two days before he tried to check on her again. This time at night. He stood among the shadows at the edge of the street, his hearing searching for her heartbeat to know if she was home. The sound let him know she was there indeed, though by the force of it probably not asleep… and quickly knew she wasn't alone.
The cigarette burned his fingers for a few seconds before he reacted and threw it. He couldn't just barge in, could he? Even less after what he told her - after making her cry.
Shit. Shit shit shit.
He stood there for two more hours until he saw Tina leaving Alice's apartment. The sigh he exhaled surprised him in new ways.
It was late at night before her heartbeat let him know she had finally fallen asleep. He had lost the count of the times he had almost crossed the street to bang on her door.
The mood had dropped lower and lower on the Unit as days passed by. He wasn't sure if it was because he was feeling like shit, because he hadn't told them anything about it even when they had asked repeatedly or because - and that's what he feared - they all missed her. She had kept her distance, only updating Adam on work-related stuff and occasionally texting Felix back, but it wasn't enough. They needed her - they, because Mason had to believe it was all of them and not just himself. Her cheery, strong presence, her incessant chatting and her patience…
Mason was starting to understand she was irreplaceable. And no one should be.
That was why they had reluctantly agreed to go to the local bar that night, after Felix pestered them about it for two days. And he didn't know if he wished she was there or the complete opposite.
The vampire was usually ruthless with his words, but always honest. He told the crude, ugly truth, and if someone didn't like it, they could go to hell for all he cared. It didn't matter if he hurt them or angered them. He didn't give a shit.
But the guilt growing and gnawing at his insides for a week told him otherwise this time. Which could mean two things: or he didn't really mean what he said or he just hated to hurt her. In the worst case scenario, both statements were right.
His brain had replayed the moment over and over. The soft smile she was giving him when their lips parted, hers looking plumper after he moved away, thinking he wasn't nearly done with those lips. Her bright eyes seemed to sparkle with the sunlight that filtered through the windows, and for a few seconds, everything was perfect. They were on their own bubble, sharing breaths and body heat, and the sound of her fluttering heartbeat was the only thing he could hear. Her sweet coconut perfume was the only thing he could smell. He could still feel the tingling in his lips because of her own. And the way she looked at him…
She looked at him in a way that made his breath catch and his pulse kick up. The way his heart nearly seemed to burst threatened to consume him, and he had to look away. He had to look away because he didn't know what he would do if he looked at her for a moment longer.
Still reeling, confused and scared and anxious, he tried to figure out what was happening. And it all was too much and he heard what the waitress said and had to draw the line that had become blurred between them. So he said those words. And when her smile faltered, his heart seemed to contract and become smaller, and again he looked away.
He only caught a second of her tear filled eyes, threatening to spill down her cheeks, as Alice got up from her chair, almost knocking it over. He almost expected her to snap at him.
But what she did was so much worse.
Her voice broke and she ran away. He could still hear her heart when he got up to follow her, beating so rapidly it made his own speed up to match it. She took a shuddering breath, so close to a sob he stopped in his tracks.
He was paralyzed, watching her go. Knowing her pain was his fault.
Felix pulled him away from his thoughts when he stepped forwards and opened the door of the small bar, his demeanor joyful and excited. Nate smiled and followed him, Adam joining as if he was trying not to ruin the night for them. Mason took a deep sigh and followed.
Alice knew he was there even before Verda's eyes widened and he elbowed Tina, making her drink dangerously shake in her hand. The redhead took a deep breath. The way the back of her neck heated up and her skin exploded into goosebumps was the telltale sign of his grey eyes on her.
Maybe the worst of it all was that she had no right to be upset. He had been clear even before the first kiss - just sex, no complications. Had she been reading too much into it? In the way he seemed to orbitate towards her whenever they were in the same room? How he seemed to relax and want to actually talk to her? Was all of it her heart guiding her brain and not the other way around?
Alice didn't know how she would react when she saw him again, therefore she had avoided the Unit altogether, but this moment had to come. She was still hurt and trying to figure out her feelings for the infuriating vampire, but still the Unit were her friends. Her family, the closest thing she ever had.
She had to pretend. For herself, for him and for the Unit.
So she turned around with a smile, hopefully convincing enough.
"There she is!" Felix chanted happily before he strode towards Alice through the tables. Her smile seemed to freeze on her face the moment their gazes locked.
Fuck, she looks stunning. Her hair was wavy and bright as the fucking sun and she wore a lipstick to match. His breath caught on his throat the same way it seemed to happen to her. His fingers twitched, as if wanting to reach out for her without his permission. He almost took a step forward, missing her closeness and the peace she brought with her. Her own peace and storm, all mixed up inside him.
Black looks good on this man. The black henley shirt wrapped around all the right places, and when he ran a hand through his long hair she almost passed out with the urge to feel those biceps around her. He was looking at her and there was no hostility in his gaze. A flash of something passed through his eyes, but she was too far to read it. Regret? Longing? Maybe he just felt awkward after her outburst at Haley's Bakery. She wished she could go back in time, before she felt her heart aching at the sight of him. To the last time she had been tangled with him on her bed, feeling his heartbeat against her skin, his breath on her neck just above her scar.
Could she? Could she keep on having sex with him knowing he would never be truly hers? Not all of him? Why did she ever agree? She had known he would consume her. She had known she was doomed. She had known she was going to fall from him since the morning she woke up with his scent on her sheets.
Her attention snapped to the brightest smile she had ever seen and she couldn't help but genuinely grin at Felix. Who would have known a vampire would actually be the personification of a ray of fucking sunshine?
"Allie!" He wrapped her in a bear hug while she was half getting up and raised her the rest of the way, until her feet didn't touch the ground, and the detective squealed in delight as she returned the hug, before laughing.
Had her laugh always been so goddamn beautiful or had Mason just missed it like crazy?
The rest of them sauntered towards the table and Mason didn't miss the glare Tina was throwing his way. Girls talk, man. He ignored her completely, letting himself fall into a chair with Adam taking the seat next to him.
Nate was the next to hug Alice, although softer, and Mason watched as she closed her eyes, as if she had missed them just as much.  She spoke over Nate's shoulder. "I'm so glad to see you. I was just going to get another round, this one's on me!"
"Actually, this was enough for me." Verda spoke while getting up, throwing a meaningful gaze to Tina.
"Y-yeah, same. Early morning tomorrow."
"Oh. Okay." Alice said, suddenly a little shy, finally letting go of Nate, who sat at the other side of Mason.
"I'll go with you to get the drinks!" Felix offered enthusiastically, asking all of them what they wanted while Verda and Tina said their goodbyes and left.
Like a magnet, their gazes found each other again. She was trapped in his just as much as he was in hers, but she broke it first, turning her eyes to the ground. She hadn't looked so insecure around them since the day they met. Her shoulders were slumped and she had her own arms around her frame, hugging herself, as if trying to become smaller. He could see the movement of her eyelashes as she blinked rapidly, her heart beating a mile a minute inside her chest, teeth chewing on her red lower lip. She looked shy and fragile, but Mason knew she was the strongest woman he had ever encountered.
Mason made a decision in that exact moment.
He would be the one biting that lip before the night ended. And he would not let so many days go by without touching her ever again.
He didn't even realize the magnitude of his thoughts, too caught up in the moment. He would deal with them later if they resurfaced.
For Alice, it was absurd how difficult it was not to look at him. To pretend the floor of the bar was far more interesting than those deep pools that seemed to see right through her every single time. But then he spoke.
"Sweetheart."

Hang 10! - Spencer
we’ve got a fic ladies and gents! it’s not the most interesting one but it’s a fic in the middle of my crazy life. hopefully i’ll be able to more along the way. i’ve got the next one planned out and i’m gonna start writing it soon.
wheelchair reader x crutches spencer
warnings: idk none really. not much happens. v v v domestic
________________
It was a normal Saturday for Spencer. Sitting with ice on his leg, the leg where he took a bullet only a few weeks before. He wasn’t allowed to put weight on it just yet and doctor’s orders were to keep it elevated as much as possible.
Spencer was making notes in a book he’s read a thousand times before. He liked to use his free time to read and even make notes on what the obscure quotes could mean, in and out of context.
Out of nowhere, his phone rang. Causing him to lean over to the coffee table to grab it, he saw it was just Morgan. According to the team group chat, everyone was supposed to be at Rossi’s house, christening Rossi’s recently completed pool with burgers and drinks.
“Are you getting ready, pretty boy?” He usually didn’t call Spencer unless it was important. Spencer wondered whether this was actually important.
“For the pool party I didn’t want to go to?” Spencer asked, putting his book on the coffee table.
“Exactly.” Morgan exclaimed. Spencer wondered what he was up to.
“I didn’t want to go for a specific reason. I’m supposed to be resting my leg.” Spencer sighed, looking down at the ice pack resting on his leg.
“Your bae will be there.” Derek said, nonchalantly.
Spencer understood what the endgame was now. It had been everyone’s endgame since the beginning.
“I hate that word. If you want to acknowledge that it’s a word, which I do not. I much prefer another moniker to talk about y/n. I’d love something classic and timeless but fun, like they are.” Spencer blushed, realizing he said more than he should have to Morgan.
“Ah, so pretty boy does have a huge crush on our new teammate. We suspected it but you just admitted it. Emily owes me money.” Derek chuckled.
Grabbing the ice bag off of his leg, Spencer grabbed his crutches and put the ice bag into a bowl he laid out for himself to hold the ice when he was done. He always thought ahead because he hates cleaning up messes.
“What do you want me to do about it? I’d like to maintain a professional relationship with them for as long as possible, thank you. Work relationships with co-workers when you’re working in such close proximity is very difficult to navigate, not to mention the statistics of getting married after meeting and working together is only as high as 31%. 69% of work relationships are more than likely to fail. Who knows what…” Spencer was anxiously moving around his apartment, going off on a tangent.
“Reid. Hey.” Derek cut off Spencer’s train of thought. “Come downstairs. Let’s go.”
Spencer grabbed his cardigan, slipping it on, before he and his crutches made their way to the building elevator.
In the car, Derek was humming along to the radio while Spencer looked out the window. He was glad Derek wasn’t trying to talk to him the whole drive because he needed time to plan what he was going to say to y/n.
To everyone else, this was a simple pool party that was meant to welcome y/n onto the team while simultaneously christening Rossi’s new pool. It wasn’t a big deal because for the past few weeks, y/n had been instrumental in the cases they covered. Everyone was so excited about the new addition to the team, especially Spencer.
To Spencer, this was a nerve racking opportunity to fail in front of y/n. Ever since their first interaction, when y/n corrected Spencer on a statistic about serial killers, Spencer was intrigued. He knew you didn’t have to have a 187 IQ or an eidetic memory to be smart but you were consistently going toe-to-toe with him on every fact, sometimes beating him to the punch. You had yet to interrupt him or even act like his tangents bothered you. In fact, a couple times, you pulled Spencer over to hear the rest of his tangent after everyone left the room.
“Hey kid. You okay? You look like you’re going to be sick.” Derek pulled into Rossi’s driveway with a concerned look on his face.
Spencer’s sickness wasn’t Derek’s concern. His concern was getting the smell out of his carpet once Spencer let out his stomach contents inside the car.
Derek leaned over Spencer, putting his arm towards the door but Spencer thought he was trying to hug him in an attempt to comfort him. This was not the case. So when Spencer wrapped his arm around Derek’s torso while Derek pushed open the door, Spencer was met with a very confused look from Derek.
“I read that wrong.” Spencer said.
“Let’s go, kid.” Derek and Spencer climbed out of the car and walked to the door. There was no need to knock so the boys just let themselves in.
Spencer was immediately drawn to your laughter as he and Derek entered the house. Without realizing it, he started walking with his crutches to the backyard, where he saw you sitting in your wheelchair, talking to Garcia. He paused as he looked at you, taking in how nice you looked in the setting sunlight. You weren’t guarded like you were at work but you weren’t relaxed either. It looked like you were on edge but there was something so calming about you that his nerves seemed to disappear almost completely.
“Boy wonder is on his feet!” Garcia said, noticing Spencer standing in the backyard doorway.
Spencer watched as your smile shrunk before you looked in his direction. He wanted to look away but when he saw your smile grow as you waved at him, his hand waved just slightly. So many thoughts ran through his head about you at once that he couldn’t decipher which thought he wanted to focus on.
Garcia waved him over to you before winking and leaving. Spencer looked at you as you squinted daggers into the back of Garcia’s head.
“I like the embellishments.” Spencer said, looking at your wheelchair.
You tilted your head as you looked at Spencer in confusion before you remembered: Penelope bought you some badass clips for your wheels. They were incredibly small but they were just noticeable. They looked like the clips you would put on your bike in the 70’s. They were neon colored and even though you didn’t normally like that kind of stuff, something about the thought Garcia put into it made it special. You hadn’t had anyone do that for you before.
“Oh, thank you. They weren’t my idea so I can’t take credit but without the wheelchair, there would be no clips so...” You grinned, too shy to look at Spencer.
Everyone had gone inside to get drinks while you and Spencer were silently hanging around each other. Both of you were too afraid to really start a conversation of some sort because neither of you knew where to start.
“Why aren’t you inside with the team?” Spencer asked, sitting in the patio chair next to you.
Propping his crutches against the wall, you took notice of his hands fiddling in his lap. It was like he needed to keep moving when he couldn’t go anywhere. You hadn’t noticed that about him before.
“I’m still getting used to them…” You said, looking at your hands in your own lap.
“Oh… You seem pretty comfortable with the team when we’re on a case.” Spencer said, looking at your hands. His thoughts wandered to how nice they would feel laced in his hands. He would love to hold your hand right about now.
“That’s different. I know how to do that. I know how to interact when I’m forced to in order to save someone’s life.” You grinned, thinking about the last case, when you were able to save a little girl from yet another monster of a person.
“It’s different to find common ground when you’re alone with somebody you don’t know.” Spencer said slowly.
The muffled laughter of the party inside through the back door made you smile. They were having such a good time while you were… Doing nothing next to Spencer? Not that you minded. It was easier to be around one person than it was to be around a group of people all looking at you for your next answer.
“I think I might like it here. It’s better than my old job.” You said, gazing off into the distance.
Spencer noticed that you slouched a little bit after saying that.
“What do you like about it?” Spencer asked, genuinely curious.
It had been a long time since you liked your job. In the beginning, you liked your old job but your boss turned mean, vindictive even, when you started to receive praise from higher ups. In fact, your skills at your old job got you here.
“It’s more than just working with a group of people. I’ve been close to some of the most brilliant minds in the world but none of them have ever felt like this. Nowhere before have I ever felt like I’m in a group of people that like each other enough to hang out when they’re not working. It’s like…” You stopped, trying to find the word.
“A family?” Spencer said, finishing your sentence.
“Yeah… And right now, I feel like the cousin twice removed that doesn’t really know anyone at the family reunion, even if everyone knows me.”
There was another pause as Spencer thought about that connection. He tried to think of something smart to say that would be interesting when his brain acted faster than he could sort out.
“In almost every state, it’s legal to date your second cousin once removed. On estimation, 0.2% of Americans alone are married to their second cousin. For clarification, a second cousin is someone you share a great grandparent with. It’s less about who married who but your relation to them. The current number is unknown as the last time the 0.2% was calculated was between…” Spencer stopped once he saw your face change.
“What?” You asked him.
“You’re smiling. And you haven’t stopped me.” Spencer said, eyebrows furrowing.
“I like listening to you talk about the probability that I’m going to marry my second cousin from this unrelated, metaphorical family.” You smiled wider as his mind started working again.
“Am I the second cousin in this scenario?” Spencer asked, blushing at the thought. He wasn’t going to lie and say he hadn’t caught feelings for you when he started to find out more about how your mind worked.
“Maybe. Only if the plan is to get married.” You said. “But you have to take me on a date first.”
“Okay.” Spencer said, grabbing his crutches.
“Okay, what?” You asked. You were so confused.
“You said I have to take you on a date.” Spencer repositioned himself to stand up with the help of the crutches.
“Are you serious?” You asked, looking up at him.
“Do you want to go on a date?” Spencer asked in a matter-of-fact way.
“Well only if you want to.” You said, sheepishly.
“We should pick a date...Saturday?” Spencer asked.
“Saturday.” You confirmed with a smile. Spencer began crutching inside before turning and looking at you.
“Are you coming, y/n? The family is calling.”

I Ask For Your Hand In Marriage - A PJO Fanfic
A Percy Jackson Royal AU Fanfiction
Description: Percy is a prince, Annabeth is a royal overseer and they both are idiots who don’t realize they are in love.
Hear it read aloud here ! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LY0R0M8ZiE&t=17s
Tumblr media
Chapter One
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing…”
In fact, Percy was not doing ‘nothing’. He was basically planking on a wooden stool; he had stolen it from the kitchens. “This  isn’t nothing.” Annabeth said with a pointed tone. Percy looked at her with big innocent seal eyes. “I’m not doing anything wrong.”
Technically, he wasn’t. He was just laying on the wooden stool, swimming in the air like a normal person. Because normal people did that right? Yeahh… they totally did.
“Where on earth did you get that?” She asked, walking over to him and crossing her arms. Her eyes were on the stool and Percy smirked up at her.
“Oh this old thing? It’s always been here; nice to see you taking note in my decorations.” He said sarcastically.
Annabeth frowned. “Why is this in your room.” She said tiredly. She muttered, ``I'm so tired of this, under her breath. Percy ignored it.
“Kitchens. I wanted to teach the kids how to swim but since they have to stay by their parents, it has to be in the air. And I’ve never swam in the air so I’m practicing.” He explained.
The corner of Annabeth’s lips raised; she was holding back a smile. “You’re a dork.” She said affectionately. Percy practically flopped around the stool; his abs were hurting from trying to stay up.
“I’m doing good.” Percy defended himself. Annabeth ruffled his hair, making it more messy than it already was.
“You’re always trying too.” She said with a smile. “But get up, you have other duties to perform; those that pertain to more than just the children in the kitchens.” Annabeth dragged him up and off of the stool by the front of his sleep shirt.
“Awww.” He whined but stood up straight, reveling in the visible cringe on Annabeth's face as he stood taller than her.
“Get that smirk off your face and get dressed. We’re meeting with the King and Queen.” Annabeth said, picking up the stool to probably go put it back.
Percy rolled his eyes. “Those are my parents. They’ve seen me as a naked baby. I don’t think they care about me in Pjs.” He said snarkily. Annabeth narrowed her grey eyes at him.
“It’s good to get ready anyways.” She told him, pinching the fabric of his seas themed fleece PJ pants.
Percy stuck his tongue out at her. “Just for you.” Percy said sassily, tearing off his shirt and shrugging on a ‘nicer’ sweatshirt. It was nicer because unlike the former, it had no holes in it. Annabeth scoffed and turned around to leave the room.
“You don’t wanna be here when I change into jeans?” Percy called after her with a devilish laugh.
”You wish, Jackson.” Annabeth threw behind her shoulder.
Percy chuckled to himself. Not only was Annabeth his best friend, but she was also his royal overseer; it was an uproar when they announced it. The past 3 kings had the same royal overseer so it had been a shock to everyone when a randam, non-noble teenage girl had been chosen by the crown prince to take that role. But truly, she was the best option.
For one, Percy did not listen to anyone but Annabeth. There was no way even wise old Chiron could get him to follow the old traditions that he needed too. Annabeth was able to make Percy begrudgingly put on the formal suits and perform speeches. Not only that, she was responsible, smart and organized; all things a royal overseer needed to be. Percy was so happy to have her in his life. She was the best friend ever; she dealt with him and organized everything. And she was funny and caring and never let him get away with being an idiot. They had been friends for years, 12 to be exact. Annabeth knew him better than he knew himself.
“That took far too long.” Annabeth deadpanned when Percy stepped out of his bedroom. He stuck his tongue out at her, as all adults do.
“No big deal.” He said, throwing an arm around Annabeth's shoulders. She shoved it off with a frown.
“You should still look your best and be on time. Nevermind the fact that they are your parents.” She chastised.
Percy rolled his eyes but didn’t object or talk back. “Good morning!’ He chimed to the staff; they smiled widely and greeted him with optimistic remarks. Percy had always made it a goal to make all the staff feel welcome and seen. Maybe times in the past, they were regarded as tools and Percy resented that past.
“I overheard your father has a huge proclamation for you.” One of the staff members said with a smirk.
Percy tilted his head to the side? “Really? They just said they wanna talk to me.” He thought out loud.
The staff member sent him a tense smile. “Hopefully you don’t mind his proclamation.” Percy’s eyebrows crinkled together in confusion. What? Why wouldn’t he like what his father had to say? At most, it would be oh add this class to your studies, retake this class, help the general with his plans, do more royal duties. He looked over to Annabeth who was scribbling in her journal; it held all her secrets, tasks and everything. He knew this because he had stolen it once and got judo flipped in return.
“Do you know anything?” He asked curiously. She looked up to him. “No idea.” She said drily.
Percy couldn’t tell if she was serious or not. Either way, he had no time to figure it out because Annabeth had pushed open the throne room doors. “Ah, you’re up.” His father said with mirth in his eyes. Percy rolled his eyes like an angsty teenager.
“No, dad I’m sleepwalking.” He replied. His father turned to his mother.
“He gets the sass from you.” Poseidon said.
Sally laughed. “Don’t act like you didn't contribute.” She said in a sing-song voice. Poseidon ignored that.
“My king and queen.” Annabeth said solemnly, bowing her head
. The entire family rolled their eyes; it was ridiculous that Annabeth still felt as if she needed to bow to them or say your highness. She had practically grown up running around their halls and spoke casually to Percy. Despite all their efforts, she always used royalty manners. Poseidon cleared his throat and looked at Percy.
“Son.” He said curtly. “Father.” Percy replied with snark; Poseidon stifled a laugh. “You are 18 now. You are an adult-” The king started. Annabeth snorted halfway through muttering, I beg to differ, your highness. Snickering, he continued. “You are going to begin to take more pressing and complex royal duties when you are 25. Starting now as a legal adult, it is important you begin to take on roles for the public to see.” Percy nodded. His parents exchanged a look. “You must find a queen.”
Percy stumbled backwards… what? He needed to what? “Now?” Percy asked in an incredulous manner. He was met with serious nods and stares. “Why now?” He practically whined.
Percy knew he was being a brat but… they telling him he needed to find the person he’d rule next to, have children with and spend the rest of his life with… now. At age 18! He couldn’t even figure out his favorite movie, much less his permanently future wife.
“Perseus, you of all people know how difficult it is for power exchanges to occur. Especially for Princesses from outer and different kingdom. They are deliberate and must take time. Lot’s of time, as we must start now. You need a queen. Our subjects must not be led to believe you’re underqualified to be their king.” Poseidon said strictly. He was definitely thinking of the gossiping nobles.
Percy sighed but nodded. “I get that.” He moped. His father nodded. “But why do I need to find a queen now? I’m not taking the throne for years, I don’t need to have an heir anytime soon.” He protested.
This time, his mother spoke. “Percy, when you start managing all of your royal duties, you work in tandem with your future queen. It wouldn’t make sense to leave that space blank. A new king and queen won’t be able to handle an entire kingdom. You need to begin your interlocking duties in the next year, so that by the time you ascent; it’s as if you’ve been ruling for years. We can’t just thrust a new queen in the middle of that entire complicated and delicate situation. Your queen will be giving her input on most all of the pressing situations and you’ll have to work on covering each other's biases. You can’t do it all alone.” Sally said with a gentle smile.
Still Percy frowned.
“Can’t Annabeth take over the queen’s duties and input for the time being? I don’t want to rush a relationship. She already knows what to do. She knows me well and can cover the biases or my weak areas. The royal overseer already performs duties like this. We can do it until I find a queen.” Percy tried to convince his parents but they shook their heads.
“No, Percy. That could cause a slew of drama. You’re not going to want that and nor will your future queen.” The king said.
“She’s my best friend and she’s fit for the role!” Percy objected.
This time, Annabeth told him to hush. “The future queen must never be a person to be deliberated over. She must be certain. Listen to what your father is saying, there was already an uproar when I became your overseer; I do not want to even imagine the outcome of me taking on queenly duties without taking that title in the future. And more so importantly than gossip… you must marry someone of Royal status. It would be beneficial for our kingdom to have another truce. No royal-blooded Princess would want a husband who has his ‘best friend’ take over her royal duties. Must less, a commoner.” Annabeth said firmly.
The king nodded in agreement. Percy sighed in defeat. “I don’t like this. But fine. What am I even supposed to do though?” He asked.
Sally smiled at Annabeth. “Annabeth has lovingly and painstakingly created a plan to help you.” Percy snorted. When did she not have a plan? “She has a list of Princesses from good reputation kingdoms and has invited them to spend a day with you.” Percy sputtered.
“Whoa so this is like speed dating or something?”
Annabeth rolled her eyes. “No, you idiot. It’s not speed dating; who do you think I am? Each week, you will meet with one Princess for a day. If you find that you’re extremely compatible with one of them; she will be your queen.” Annabeth explained, shoving her blonde curls behind her ears.
Percy made a silent O with his mouth. Seaweed brain, she mouthed at him. “I’d say even though it’s rather untraditional; it is a plan that has a high probability of working.” His father said.
Annabeth nodded. “It was created with Percy in mind, your highness. Which I will admit made it difficult.” She said with a smirk. Percy squawked offendedly. “And we thank you for the plan, Annabeth dear.” His mother said kindly.
“No one else knows him well enough.” The blonde smiled politely and bowed her head. “That is all. You two can brief on it if you’d like.” Poseidon said. Percy left after telling his parents `I love you` and kissing his mother’s cheek; Annabeth bowed, said `thank you, my king and queen` and followed Percy out the door.
That’s Chapter One! I just had an idea and ran with it.
