Chris Evans' potential boyfriends (allegedly based on blind item gossip!)

September 15th. 2023. Only a few days after Chris Evan's alleged wedding, a blind item appeared on CrazyDaysAndNights dot net.

It is about an A/A-list actor who is sometimes a super hero:

A lot of people in the comment section argued that this is about Jeremy Renner. I wondered why and so I did some research about him. On Datalounge dot com and on the forum called LipstickAlley, they argue that he is a gay man who faked the custody dispute with his "ex". It is alleged that she was his surrogate and both wanted to be in the news to get more fame (Shameful!).

However I do not believe that this blind item is about Jeremy because he isn't a "sometime superhero". But you know who is? Our lovely Chris. He was the "Human Torch" in the Fantasitc Four. 4 years later he was "Steve Rogers aka Captain America" and 3 years after that, he replaced Tim Allen as "Buzz Lightyear". So yeah. he is a "sometime superhero" but these days I'm not so sure about the A-list status anymore...

Anyway, I had that thought on why it could be Chris after one person in the comment section gave the following hints:

As this person points out, EntyLawyer who wrote this blind item above, has Hollywood insider knowledge. As a result Enty knew what we from #TeamPR have already concluded: Based on immigration law, a legal marriage was not possible. It is fake. So despite the fact that the blind item appeared days after Chris' alleged wedding, his (PR) girlfriend is after all just a "girlfriend" and not a wife. So this blind item could still apply to Chris.

Based on what the commenter Eenid in the screenshot above implies... Chris, which this blind item is allegedly about, has a "long-time boyfriend he also pays as an employee"...

Possible Boyfriend #1: Mark Kassen

In 2017, Chris and Mark have both started the political online platform called "A Starting Point". So is he Chris' employee? In this cute picture of them, you can see that he already has way more chemistry with Mark than with his PR wife from "GO Portugal!"

However, they have already known each other since 2011 when they both starred in the movie Puncture. It adds up with that the person said above. That "A Starting Point" was not their first "joint endeavour" ... ... ...

Chris and Mark don't just hang out when it comes to business related stuff. They also hang out privately. Here you can see them both with Chris' brother Scott who is also gay. This was confirmed by Chris when he outed him publicly:

A person on LSA said that when Chris had an interview in 2019, he said that Josh was basically his roommate and was living in the family home with Chris Evans' mother Lisa...

In the October 2023 GQ interview, Chris said that he loves to smoke weed. It explains why he needs botox these days. It was also the same interview that had several sentences about leaves, autumn, his beloved dog Dodger, while his PR wife was only mentioned twice. That he "had her for a while" (I think at this point his team still wasn't sure how the PR relationship timeline between those two should look like) and that she reads "energies". So based on that interview, his love for weed exceeds that of the love he (allegedly) has for his alleged wife. So that Josh is a professional weed smoker is therefore probably something Chris really likes. As the user above says... (BTW: It is public knowledge where he lives but I still didn't feel comfortable to just screenshot it so I removed the name of the town in case you wonder what the pink bars are) A user who is in contact with someone who lives in Chris' Town said that Josh walks Chris' dog Dodger when Chris is away for work in LA and no one ever saw his PR wife from Portugal. There are also other people on X who often claim that neighbours never saw a wedding and that the weather conditions were horrible on that day.

When he was already allegedly dating the PR bride from Portugal, Chris said that Dodger was his long-term partner (No I won't name him as possible bf #3 EW). It demonstrates two things: 1. This PR crap ain't real and 2. That he trusts Josh to take care of Dodger is just heart-warming. I don't think every person is allowed to walk the dawg!

Josh is also not just the personal assistent of Chris when it comes to several of his movies (I wonder now what he is assisting him with...), he also took and probably still takes care of his instagram/social media (Chris has anxiety and therefore doesn't like reading mean comments).

Yes, Chris is very open about his anxiety to the point where he needed a back rub from Scarlet Johanson after a press conference. It is uplifting knowing that Josh shields him from people's opinions online. He is basically Chris' own personal Captain America x3

In this thread a user implied that they knew Chris and that he is ashamed of being bi. Some people on datalounge argued that this is the reason why he publicly outed his brother Scott. Because a lot of people assume that if one brother is gay, the other can't be. I encountered this argument too when sharing my arguments regarding Chris' PR relationship with others online. They responded to me that Scott is the gay brother. They really thought that that means that no one else in the family can be gay anymore! Chris you cunning imp! Smart move.

A lot of people will probably be angry at me for exposing Chris this way but first of all, I only summarize all his gay/bi rumors other people mention. Enhanced Senses - Taste

There’s a real thing called being a supertaster, which is when a person has more taste buds then normal, resulting in being more sensitive to tastes in general (and especially bitter tastes apparently, which does fit with my experience).

Now, there are a lot of characters out there who are described as having enhanced senses, and while most writing/discussion/etc focuses on the effects on their sense of small, hearing, and/or sight, most of these characters are also at some point said to have enhanced taste (and even if it’s not explicitly stated, the strong link between smell and taste means that an enhancement on either sense likely strengthens the other as well). While these characters’ sense of taste is almost definitely much stronger in comparison to the baseline than a supertaster’s, they’d have more taste experiences in common with the characters than most people, and the characters would probably experience the same things but to a more exaggerated degree. As a supertaster myself (though I don’t like the term because it makes it sound like a super power and honestly it’s useless except for making me a really picky eater), there are some things I see often in fics of these characters that really bug me as incorrect. Here’s a list of some common things to consider (based off my own experiences, though feel free to add on your own thoughts) if you’re writing a character with stronger-than-the-average-human smell/taste:

Chocolate: this is a big one. Chocolate is really bitter, guys. “Oh, you mean dark chocolate?” No. All chocolate, though dark chocolate is worse than most. Every single type of chocolate I’ve tried, which is more or less all of them, has been far more bitter than anything else, except for white chocolate which is barely even chocolate at all and is too cloyingly sweet to eat more than a few small bites at a time. Your character will not enjoy anything chocolate or chocolate-flavored, and even if they somehow do, they won’t think it tastes warm and sweet or whatever most people think it tastes like.

Coffee: how the fuck anyone can stand to drink it long enough to ‘acquire the taste’ or whatever, I will never understand. It’s a terrible blend of pure bitterness and what I imagine dark dirt tastes like. Even the scent is miserable. No amount of milk, sugar, or other flavoring can hide the bitter. If I need caffeine, a very strong black tea is generally the best option, although if it oversteeps it can also get very bitter very quickly.

Smoke & burning: smoke is not a good flavor in food when you can taste it as strongly as I can. Barbecue is gross, flame grilled burgers are okay once I drown them in condiments and cheese so the meat is less edible, and wood oven pizzas are fairly intolerable. Similarly, anything “charred” or blackened just tastes burnt, and I’m generally a lot more sensitive to over cooking than most people. Underdone is far preferable to overdone. Anything cooked past “medium” is inedible and “medium-rare” is typically preferable.

Complexity: as a general rule, complex dishes with a lot of flavors and components are going to be overwhelming. One of the reasons kids menus have simpler/plainer options is because the older you get, the more your taste buds die (you know how old people like really spicy food sometimes?); feeding your enhanced-senses character is kind of like feeding a kid, in this way.

Flavors are clingy: food absorbs the flavors touching it. If you give me chocolate covered strawberries, it doesn’t matter if we wipe off all the chocolate and the strawberry looks good as new; I’ll still be able to taste the chocolate on it. Also, as I said before, scent and flavor are pretty tied up in eachother, so if food was stored/prepared in a room with anything particularly pungent (food or otherwise), the character can almost definitely taste those things in their food.

This definitely isn’t a complete list, but I don’t want to make this post any longer until I figure out how to make reading cuts. Also I might be wrong about some things because I’m really not an expert and this is mostly based on my own experiences, but I hope this can be a little helpful to someone.

It was an embarrassingly late hour, and you were still tossing and turning. You checked your phone.

3:18am

Goddamn it.

You knew there was only one person who could make you feel better, and he was long asleep (or at least you hoped he was).

Giving in, you dialed the number and held your phone to your ear, your fingers pressed to the bridge of your nose.

“Hotchner,” came the gravelly answer.

“Hi, it’s me.” Your voice was small. “I’m having a really bad night. I can’t sleep.”

You could hear his small smile through the phone. “Come on over.”

A thirty-five-minute drive found you on the Hotchner’s porch, still in your pajamas with your favorite pillow tucked under your arm. You knew better than to knock at this hour, so you sent a text.

The door opened only seconds later, and you were greeted by the breathtaking sight of Hotch in his soft grey crew neck and flannel pajama pants. He stepped back and let you into the warm house.

After he closed the door, he gathered you up, your arms slipping around his waist and his around your shoulders. Tucked into him, you could breathe a little easier.

“Can I see him?”

Aaron leaned back and looked into your eyes. The blue light from the windows made his eyes so much darker than they were in the daytime, and his hair was sleep-tousled and soft.

“He’s in his room.”

You left the circle of Aaron’s arms, threw your pillow and phone on the couch, and padded down the hallway. The door was open, the soft yellow cast of Jack’s nightlight falling at your feet. His white noise machine chugged away, underscored by the sound of Jack’s soft breath.

Aaron trailed behind you, giving you the space you needed.

Jack stirred a little when you knelt next to his bed and rested your cheek on his mattress.

It was enough for you to just see him – safe and sleeping – to soothe you. He’d always had that effect on you. The first afternoon you stopped by to help Haley seven months after he was born, Jack captured your heart. You two had only grown closer through the years.

Two brown eyes opened a sliver. A smile crossed his face before his eyes closed again.

“It’s okay, baby,” you whispered.

“Did you have another bad dream?” He whispered back, just as quietly.

“Yeah.” You told him a few months ago, after he experienced his own bought of nightmares, that it was always okay to find people that made you feel better after a bad dream.

He scooted closer to the edge of the bed, eyes still closed, and placed a hand on the side of your head. You were almost nose to nose. A few tears slipped out of your eyes, tracing their way down your cheek and onto his superhero sheets.

You synced your breathing with Jack’s as he fell deeper back into sleep, holding his little hand to your temple.

When you finally stood and made your way to the familiar shadow leaning against the doorframe, it was nearly five in the morning.

Aaron looked a little more awake than when he answered the door, and somehow more at peace. You didn’t see the fondness in his eyes as he watched his son breathe peace into you as he slept, but it was there.

He took your hand and led you to his bedroom. You paused at the door, and your fingers slipped a little from his grasp.

Usually, you landed on the couch in the living room, where Aaron sat with you until you fell asleep. This was new.

“Stay with me tonight,” he said, lacing your fingers together.

“Really?”

He nodded and walked back into the bedroom until his knees hit the edge of the bed. Sitting down, he held on to both of your hands in the space between your bodies.

“I think we’ll both sleep better in here, don’t you?”

A smile threatened at the corners of your mouth. “Aaron Hotchner are you flirting with me?”

He looked up at you through his lashes with a wry smile. “Is it working?”

You stepped forward, laughing lightly and resting between his knees. He brought your hands to his lips and kissed your knuckles. You dropped your cheek to his hair. “How do you do it?”

“Hmm?”

“How do you always manage to make me smile?”

He shrugged. “You’re important to me. You’re important to my son.” He leaned back and captured your eyes. “We love you,” he said as if it was the simplest thing in the world.

....And there were the tears again.

“Aaron,” you said. There were so many things you wanted to voice, but you settled for the silence.

He released your hands and brushed your tears away with his fingers. You took a step back as he stood, pulling the covers back on the untouched side of the bed.

The sheets were cool and soft as you slid between them. You curled up, facing Aaron’s side of the bed, still rumpled. He stood at his nightstand for a moment, doing something on his phone.

When your phone buzzed on the nightstand behind you, you belatedly realized your head was on your favorite pillow from home and your phone was plugged in and set for the night. You reached for it and saw a text from Aaron.

Aaron 👔 5:06am Late start today, barring urgent case notification. Report at 1pm. Enjoy your morning.

You turned to look at him as he tucked into bed beside you.

“You need your sleep. I made an executive decision,” he said. He smiled at you in the dark. “I also don’t want to face the wrath of my son if we leave for work without having breakfast with him.”

You shuffled closer to him, and he tucked you into his chest. “We wouldn’t want that, now would we?”

His laugh reverberates through you. “Definitely not.”

There’s silence as you both settled against each other - your head pillowed on his arm as it wrapped around your back, legs tangled together, your hand resting on his chest. The clock ticked away on the wall and the whir of Jack’s white noise machine floated down the hall.

It wasn’t as if you and Aaron weren’t physically affectionate with each other – you’d spent many nights with Jack on your lap, the both of you tucked under Aaron’s arm, watching movies. This though? The feeling of his arms around you and the smell of him surrounding you in his bed? It was new, special.

Peaceful. Quiet. Safe.

“Aaron?”

“Mhmm?”

“Thank you.”

He sighed and kissed the top of your head. “Can I tell you something?”

“Always.” You played with the soft fabric of his shirt under your fingers.

“You don’t need the excuse of a sleepless night to come spend time with us, you know. Or even to spend the night.”

You mumbled something that sounded like “Damn profilers” and Aaron laughed quietly.

“I - we,” he amended, “would really like it if you were here more often. As much as you want,” he continued.

Your heart rate picked up, and you were sure he could feel it. “I would really like that, too.”

When you tipped your head up to look at him, you very nearly startled when you saw how close his face was. His eyes were soft as he brushed some hair off your face.

“Can I tell you something?” You asked, echoing his question from earlier.

“Always.”

You smiled as he parroted your words. “You are the only person who can make me feel safe enough to sleep.”

He pressed a kiss to your forehead and tucked you back under his chin. “Good.”

Your sleep was dreamless, for once, and your heart was whole.

uwu meter exploded and i ate dinner at 2am after watching this aka the sam and bucky show episode 5

The new episode was sO goOd omg tbh i didnt think i was gonna be able to watch it last night and i legit cried. But i did and i am very very thankful. Because it was a very very good episode. But before we start stOP reAdING cuz theres gonna be MASSIVE SPOILERS IN THIS POST.

Alrighty without further delay, the Sam and Bucky show episode 5 and all its best things (there are a lot, to no one’s surprise). Im gonna go in chronological order to avoid losing my mind.

1. The fight in the beginning. Omg. Walker looked like he was gonna do both Sam and Bucky in with the shield like 6 times and it was lowkey scary. And when Walker knocked bucky into the electric tower or whatever it was— skdjfjs i saw some people post abt Sam’s glare mid battle like “if this is sam looking at walker after he hurt bucky” anD IT ACTUALLY WAS marvel why.

2. Walker ripped Sam’s wings off omg. That was so brutal i audibly gasped. I think we’ve seen the wings being shot at or broken but never ripped clean off. 0 _ 0

3. I like how the fight ended with all three of them on the ground and the shield just lying there. And then Bucky picked it up, left it for Sam and left. Walker was defeated but it kinda shows how Sam still wasn’t sure about the shield, he just knew in that moment that Walker absolutely couldn’t be the one to have it. I feel like that fight scene really conveyed how all of them felt about the shield and it was done really well. (Ok but on a side note, remember in episode 2 when Sam was like “bruh we cant just run up on the man, beat him up and take it?” I guess they went with that plan after all)

4. TORRES MY BELOVED. He’s back and I’m so happy 🥺🥺🥺🥺 also i love how he’s not afraid to give Bucky sass lmao.

5. WHEN SAM TOLD TORRES TO KEEP THE WINGS. listen i havent read the comics but i know what happens in them and Torres is such a Falcon fanboy omg if he’s gonna be the new falcon im gonna be so happy for him ahhHhHh

6. Sam’s conversation with Isaiah Bradley. Man. I’m really really happy that we have that scene. The scene with Isaiah in episode 2 left me reallly uneasy because it ended on a really bad note with unfinished and unsaid things between Sam, Bucky and Isaiah. Also Sam didn’t really get to talk at all in that scene and I felt like he def had things he wanted to say. I appreciated how Sam said that he really didn’t get some stuff and he had Isaiah explain more of his backstory. I think Sam believes that things can change, for good reason, and at the same time Isaiah believes that nothing will change, also for a completely fair reason. But having the time to let the two of them talk, esp with the shield in the room and without Bucky’s complicated history was a really well written piece of dialogue. Thank you screenwriters.

7. SARAH WILSON SUPREMACY. I’m glad we got more of Sarah in this episode ahhh. She’s such a caring sister and I’m here for it. Sam and Sarah sibling dynamics also >>>>>

8. Sam calling in the favors to help fix the boat was so heartwarming omg. And Bucky just showing up lmaooo

9. Bucky flirting with Sarah to get on Sam’s nerves LMAOO

10. Sam and Bucky fixing the boat together was something I needed to see. That entire montage, the teamwork and warm lighting and akskdjajd my heart 🥺🥺💕💕💕

11. Bucky waking up to Sam’s nephews playing with the shield reminded me of the Black Panther end credits scene but also of that one scene in Wandavision with Pietro and wanda’s kids lollll

12. Sarah asking Sam if he’s gonna let Isaiah tell him what to do and then Sam asking/telling Bucky to stop letting others, even Steve, tell him who to be was just. Skdkfjaod. The character conversations in this episode ahHhh

13. On that note, Sam and Sarah having a chance to talk about themselves, their boat and their family was just amazing. They’re fighting to keep their history and also understanding each other at the same time.

14. Sarah telling sam that there’s the fight out there and then theres the fight in here is so special. It in a sense reflects/applies to not only Sam and Sarah’s relationship and struggles, but it also applies to Sam and Bucky’s relationship and struggles esp with Steve and the shield’s legacy, Bucky’s history as the Winter Soldier and all the weight he carries with it. They gotta sort out the inside stuff before getting into the thick of what I’m sure will be the final battle next week as superheroes in the face of the world.

15. On that note. Sam and Bucky finally having the chance to talk was so relieving and eye opening for both characters. Bucky finally understanding Sam’s perception of the shield and its weight on his conscience because he is an African American representing his people and Sam finally understanding a more personal side of Bucky’s relationship with/perception of the shield feels like a knot in their friendship that has been resolved. The development in this show is just through the roof omg.

16. Okay but Bucky talking about how Steve told him about the plan to give Sam the shield... wkerjkakdja I feel like that makes Endgame’s ending a little better 😭😭😭

17. Shield training shield training shield training ahhhHhHhHhh i swear whenever either sam or bucky touched the shield in this episode i started physically vibrating LOL. Its so cool to see the shield in the hands it’s supposed to be in again ☺️☺️ Sam’s training montage with the shield was also AMAZING omg it was so so cool to watch him grow with the skills

Not Sam asking Bucky if he has nightmares and talking to him about amends and stuff skdjfjskd lowkey Sam is the superior therapist in this show and he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for it aksjdjskdjajd. Also the implication that Bucky will go back to Nakajima and give him closure for his son I— 😭😭

Colson’s place was decently packed with people you know having a good time drinking, smoking, and doing some illegal things to. which uh i didn’t mind that’s for sure. I’v seen faces of friends and people i know, people i don’t fucking know and someone i didn’t know was going to be here. man Colson is an dick he should of told me she would be here. him of all bros knew her being here would be something i’d like to know. I have no clue if she even saw me or cares that i’m here when she is here to, why would she care really not like i’m her ex boyfriend. nope not hers, just her best friends.. and that how i first met her through Ariana. she was one of Ariana’s friends i got along with really well, someone i really liked maybe a little to much. but i was with Ariana and i wasn’t the type to act on the confusing infatuation i seemed to have in my head with her. like fuck come on who wouldn’t of been attracted to her, she was gorgeous, her curves were sexy as hell not the body type i tended to be seen with skinny no ass chicks. she was also smart and funny her laugh was intoxicating and i loved making her laughs with the comedy i attempted. her bright big smile could make any one smile to and her eyes always held a kindness in them to most but they could also hold fire to go with her sassy wits when needed that she used to stick up for her beliefs and the people she cared about. she is a mix of many things and all those things just made me like her more. 

“your a dick” i whisper yell into Colson’s ear where he is standing by a wall drink in hand laughing with a few people by his side. know i wasn’t meaning it to be rude it was like half you are a dick and half joking bro. 

“what did i do man” Colson chuckled looking at my annoyed facial expression. 

“could of warned a bro” is all i said while nodding over to the direction Y/N was standing. seeing her smiling while shes surrounded by people. Colson followed my gaze and nod direction. 

“Oh.. my bad” he chuckled again. 

“uh oh yah your bad dude” i reply sounding annoyed.

“i don’t see the issue man your single now who cares if you wanna get with Y/N” he says slightly louder then i liked. 

“uh still not a good idea the whole best friend thing” i shook my head while speaking

“no it wouldn’t of been a good idea to do anything with her while dating Ariana but now you can and not feel bad about it” Colson tried to reason. and then turned his attention back to people he was near clearly making his words the end of that convo.

 I thought his words over battling with my self to even talk to Y/N or act like she wasn’t here, wasn’t here looking amazing and full of life as she always was. standing against the wall in the common area looking over to her, watching as she embraced a girl friend of hers, them smiling laughing and talking into each others ears. they pulled away slightly from each others faces as it seemed their short conversation was over and i caught her eyes on my slumped figure for probably all of two seconds. and even in that short time i felt panic in my self. was she talking about me? did she magically hear what me and Colson were talking about? oh fuck.. nah its probably nothing. i’m just to stoned i’m being paranoid. 

I decided on smoking more weed and a few shots to distract my self. keeping a good distance between me and her and trying real fucking hard to stop glancing her way. Thank fuck for the liquor i been drinking making me enjoy my self and focusing as much as i can on the music and friends around me. a few of us dancing as a Kid Cudi song came on. that’s awesome love this dude. my dancing slowly came to a stop as i stupidly looked her way again but seeing eyes on me as well and a small smile on her lips. there was a split second i felt i was gonna faint at the sight her. her looking at me looking at her looking at me. air escaped my lungs and i coughed awkwardly looking away from her beautiful figure. i seriously wish i could stop looking at her. anytime i see her looking at me i freak the fuck out like why.. why you looking at me for? did i have something on my fucking face? like no oh okay then why??? 

Few more shots later and i’m sitting with Colson on a couch zoning in and out on the conversations around me. then i hear her laugh. if i can hear it she must be close, and i mean to fucking close. i look up to see her standing across from the couch only like three meter sticks away where a big chair is and shes laughing with a douche bag looking guy who’s sitting in the chair. my face crunched up and great now i get to see and hear her and some dude probably flirt. who the hell wouldn’t flirt with her right. 

After witnessing enough giggles from her lips and his hand on her body i had to leave before my bitterness came out full force at that dude. so here i am finding more liquor in the kitchen to drink. i wondered if i was being an idiot. maybe it was simple just talk to her i was freely able to i had no girl holding me back. but i keep thinking would i be an ass to go after her sense i dated her friend.. its not like i’d be the first guy the world has seen with an ex’s friend. 

“You gonna share that bottle or have it all to your self” that voice.. that giggle.. fuck me.. i turned to her my eyes bugged out my head a little surprised shes here talking to me. 

“Uh..Hi” really thats all i can come up with! uh hi yeah sure that doesnt sound like an idiot idk what does. 

“Hi” she giggled. and then silence.. great i made this awkward. of course i did yep that’s me everyone Pete Davidson the awkward dude that makes other awkward with my awkwardness powers. Mr superAwkward! my superhero name. 

“Well you seem awkward” she blurts out like no big deal. her and her bluntness. 

“uh yeah you uh can just call me uh Mr superawkward here to make every situation as awkward as can be. that’s me!” i stupidly use my awkwardness as comedy with her cuz the fuck else should i be saying right now i don’t know shit. 

“awe i miss your humour” she laughed. awe she laughed! yesss i made her laugh!

“I miss you too!” wait that sounded weird to say.. shit hold up let me remove my foot from mouth. why she looking at me like that. one raised eyebrow hand on hip and smirking. 

“oh yeah i bet” her smirk turned into a smile. i cant tell if she is joking or being sarcastic or what that meant. all i could do is take a swig of the bottle of liquor i was still holding and swallow hard in my still awkwardness. 

“there was this little bird that told me you liked me” she says no big deal all nonchalantly stepping closer to me. if i thought my big ass eyes were bugging out before then i was a dumb ass cuz now i look like Jim Carey in the mask. 

“There’s a bird here?” faking seriousness in my sweaty panic. 

“oh yeah flying around hearing things they couldn't help but chirp away telling me” Y/N smiles while talking. that’s good right that smile that’s a good one. she took another step to me, she was close as fuck few inches between us. i licked my bottom lip nervously starring down at her. “so did the little bird lie or is there truth that was told?”.

“uh that bird might have good hearing and no reason to lie most likely” I shake off some nerves by taking another swig of the liquor in my hand. the second it leaves my lips Y/N is taking it into her hand bringing it up to her sweet looking lips taking a delicate sip as she brought the bottle down to her side she slowly moved closer to me, it took me a moment to realise when her lips were on mine. Once i knew what was going on i was more than willingly to apply to what she wanted and i have wanted sense what seems like forever. 

“Glad to know Mr superawkward liked me back” she whispered so sweetly on my lips. I cant believe she liked me all this time to. thank god for being single now and following my desire. Her.

Jerico wasnt expecting any visitors that day, she was sitting on the roof of her appartment, can of soda in hand with some music in the background.

She saw the shadow of a Man from the Fire exit, he was inside her house.

She picks up her things and runs inside, using her powers to make her fists like rock.

She butts into her house ready to punch the intruder, she stops two centemeters from his face.

--bRANDON!-- shouted jer turning her fists to normal-- Jesus christ you scared me! I thought you were a burglar...!

She closes the door as her superheroe friend just sighs-- me and dad had a fight and I stormed off, can I stay for a bit?

She nodds sighing softly giving him a hug.

He hugs back tightly-- youre one of the few that havent died on me...

--I heard about blackstar, you did good

-- not enough for my dad apparently...

Both break the hug and sit on her sofá, she sits closer taking his hand.

He nodds leaning on her-- god, what would I do without you?

He Snickered and she quickly went to the kitchen, grabbing plenty of snacks and drinks for them to play some videogames.

It helped to get Brandons mind off of his fight with his dad, jerico never failed when it came to cheer him up.

Her superheroe days are behind Her, though shortlived, she did a lot of good.

She wasnt aligned with his fathers League, she was but a mere secret amongst her Friends, between them Brandon. Her childhood friend.

Utopian never found out, he was sure to cut all ties with them if he found out about her alter-ego.

Yet,paragon was always there for her when she needed it.

-- oh Man! We died again!--complained jerico, throwing the joystick on the table.

--lets take a break okay?--suggested Brandon putting an arm around her and pulling her closer.

Theres a silence that lasts some minutes, just the two of them taking a breather.

Just as they are about to kiss, they hear a loud noise coming from the outside ,and paragon hears a voice he feared to.

Jerico sighs-- utopian has horrible timing

Neither answer the calls until they become too much.

--i have to go-- he said.

--no, you dont have to

Brandon whispers some not so nice things under his breath and both walk down to the street where his father was

They stay silent for a while, he then pushed her closer to him and smiled.

She kisses him, her arms against his chest and him hugging her waist.

Everything to love about Far From Home not in this order:

Literally seeing that opening with all our loved avengers that are no more.

Whitney Houston “I will always love you” made me cry because damnit Tony’s face was right THERE! NOT OK!

The blip footage was pretty damn funny not gonna lie.

Peter’s cute ass plan to tell MJ how he feels.

MJ’s favorite flower being a Black Dalia because of the murder. Literally a girl I can relate too. Murderinos for life sister. Idk but it just made her sooo relatable!

The fact that Brad is a kid grown up from the blip and that made him seem all the weirder for MJ.

Jealous Peter was so freaking amazing! Oh my gosh! That face he’d get. I’m a sucker for jealousy and they did it so good.

Making MJ this awesome character she was before but also obviously has this softer layer where she does have flaws and insecurities and she’s really sweet but also so badass. That was amazing.

The starting relationship between Peter and Beck. It was cute and so I was sad knowing that Beck was somehow going to be the villain.

Also let’s talk about how Beck is basically Syndrom from the incredibles.

That scene with Peter and Brad....the pure terror when he snapped that picture

Also seeing how big of a dick Brad is and how unhealthy jealous he was.

“Nick Fury” getting ghosted, showing up in Venice, tranquilising Ned (don’t touch him you monster) and then promptly highjacking Peters Summer trip.

Showing the emotional trama Peter is going through. The anxiety, the greiving. It was very reminiscent of Iron Man 3 when Tony suffers from PTSD after the battle of New York. I loved that they showed Peter reacting as any kid would, many adults too, which is to just try and forget anything happened but being faced with the reality every day. So well done.

Happy and May’s relationship. Enough said 😂😂

I feel cheated we didn’t see Mr delmore again.

Addressing all the problems the Blip/Snap created. High school aging, school, drinking ages, homelessness and housing issues. That’s just the start of it I’m sure but they covered those pretty well and I love that.

The technology that made Beck into Misterio was so well done. Instead of some frankly, kinda far fetched story that he came from an alternate earth (which I was willing to believe but felt it was a cop out in terms of plot and character) they showed the real world issues that superhero’s can create. The Enemies that have a real deep rooted hatred for hero because they’ve personally been betrayed or wronged by them. Because marvel has always made clear, everyone is not on the hero’s side.

Steeping Misterio’s powers in tech which is classing marvel but again, so brilliantly done in this movie. I loved the development. Because at first glance, half way through, I was thinking “wow this is really kinda weird and unexplained and too witchcraft for what marvel usually brings to the superpower backstory” I know it’s weird to say after everything marvel has done. But it seemed just a tad out there without being too hard to grasp. Which again was brilliantly done because that was the whole point.

The nod to Misterio’s helmet even when Beck was in the hologram suit watching everything play out. I guess it was his screen? But I loved the staple of even without his big over the top suit he still had the trademark helmet. Great costume design.

Peter’s soft gazes towards MJ. Nearly gave me a cavity they were so sweet! Ahhh sooo cute

Mr. Harrington’s marital problems nearly made me pee my pants....we all knew here in the fandom that shit like that would half to happen but my god lol

The opera scene was sooo freakin cute and that one step Peter took when he saw Brad move in was so freaking cute and hot!

MJ running after him and finding the critical peice of information to crack the case wide open. Loved it.

Betty and Ned’s Sicily sweet romance that you knew couldn’t possibly last. They really nailed the realistic high school romance. But I still ship it.

The bus scene was epic. And when Peter knocked Flash out...god it was amazing.

Mj obviously having love eyes towards Peter same as he does for her.

THE FACT THAT HE ACTUALLY BOUGHT THAT NECKLACE FOR HER OH MY GOD! I CANT GET A GUY TO TEXT ME BACJ LET ALONE BUY A NECKLACE LIKE THAT WHICH PROBABALY COST A GOOD CHUNK OF CHANGE IT WAS SO FREAKING AMAZING AND CUTE AND TOUCHING.

All the iron man images got me feeling depressed as hell

“are you being serious because I was only like 67% sure?” That was amazing. Seeing MJ get so excited and trying to keep that hidden was awesome

The fact that she was so pleased with herself but also played it hella cool when Ned walked in and she said she figured it out. Literally that is me.

The shirtless Peter trope that we all wanted and freaking got! So freaking cute how she tried to peak at his abs. Like understandable girl.

The fucking illusions. Turning our sweet trusting Peter into a ball of mess. I was too.

God when he had to tell himself it wasn’t real but it still totally feels like it is.

Him trying to save MJ when she’s “thrown off the Eiffel Tower”

Every traumatizing thing Beck shows and tells him during the illusion. So shitty.

Seeing Tony’s grave, seeing iron man come out. That was awful and we all felt it in the movie because we’ve lost him too. We could FEEL that slap same as Peter.

Beck telling Peter that Tony’s death was his fault. I was abouta hurl myself at the movie screen.

Every illusion done in a way that just when you think it’s over, it’s never stopped. You forget what’s real and you feel trapped in it same as Peter does.

WHEN HE GETS HIT BY THE TRAIN!!!!!!!!!! Nearly had a damn heart attack!!!! My mom had to look over and ask if I was ok because I literally stopped breathing for a solid 30 seconds.

Showing gradually just how insane and evil Misterio was.

HAPPY BEING CONCERNED FOR PETER! LIKE SINCERELY AND HONESTLY CONCERNED! It’s good to know he’s got Happy to take care of him and May but that Peter still has a father type figure he can count on after Tony. Because you know Tony wouldn’t have put up with any of that getting hit by a train shit.

Also where the hell was Karen? We missed her. We got Edith but Karen wouldn’t have let Misterio take her over. WHERE WAS KAREN!!

Peter crying and needing to know Happy was real. Broke me heart

That hug between them was so sweet and you can see the concern on Happy’s face

Happy and Peter opening up to each other was so awesome considering their relationship in Homecoming.

ALL THE TONY and PETER PARRELLS! All of them!!!!!!!!! Not the people saying “Spider-Man’s the next Ironman” no the actual hints and glimpses at how similar him and tony actually are. The hologram gauntlet shot, a straight parallel to Iron Man when Tony is building his first real suit. Obviously “Back in Black” by Led Zeplen (formally known as AC/DC) playing. Another obvious hint toward Tony. The Stark sunglasses. Peter falling with the parachute and it literally looks like Ironman with his jet stream behind him from a distance. There’s so much more I’ll do a whole other post on.

Of course: “I love Led Zeplin!” Hahaha it’s such a kid thing to say! I’ve said it before I knew the big differences between AC/DC and Led Zeplin. It was so freaking perfect.

MJ BADDASS COMES SWINGING WITH THE MACE AND IT WAS LEGINDARY OH MY GOD! YES GIRL! She’s my idol I love her so much.

Peter and his “Peter Tingle” And while we’re on the subject the banana he gets to the face while packing.

Important. His amazing skills at the end trusting his instincts (which is great because May says in regards to MJ, but it applies to this too) May tells Peter to trust his instincts and don’t think too much. And that’s what he does when he defeats Beck.

The bad ass “you can’t fool me anymore” after redirecting the gun away from his head at the end. Literally was so intense and well done.

Peter and MJ’s kisses! I loved how awkward it was at first and the slightly less awkward one. They really accurately captured the awkwardness of teenagers in love. Like that’s what it’s like guys.

Show me MJ’s parents you cowards, or show me something. Anything. I just want to know the nature of the situation.

Ned and Betty’s breakup. So funny and honestly not surprising at all. But still I ship them.

The hand hold. So cute.

May and Peter still being the cutest aunt and nephew duo there ever was.

1. to be torn by kyla la grange

this first song was a suggestion from someone, and i think set the tune for the rest of my choices. apparently it’s from beauty and the beast? lol anyway it describes this desire to be torn, a carnal need to be used. the heavy sound of it is kind of haunting, a bit sad, but also strong. the emotion can be felt even without the lyrics. kiana has this part of her that deeply craves being important, whether it comes at her own expense -her own tearing- or not. also forewarning that a lot of these overlap on the same concepts. shrug emoji

2. intertwined by dodie

intertwined is a song that immediately came to mind for kiana after to be torn. when this song came out, many people saw it as a cute love story, wanting to be intertwined with a lover, and have them be the safe space when you have a troubled head. however, dodie made a video debunking this, against her natural inclination, because the song describes something severely unhealthy. the following music video also helped many people to see the gore that’s strung throughout the lyrics. it Actually describes a relationship where the participants have put all of their source of happiness in one another, and it’s left them codependent, but ever seeking more. kiana has this perpetual trouble in relationships, especially romantic ones

this song is a bit similar to intertwined, i would say? someone who feels stuck, drowning in a “hell” that is only saved by a piece of “heaven/paradise.” yet they’re in between the place of hell and heaven, constantly confused of where they land, because they’ve placed their hope for salvation in this one, singular place/person. they want to be freer than they are, yet their salvation keeps them locked away. open the door to heaven, let me walk on the cloud. the day i’m trapped in you, save me, hold me tight

5. dinner & diatribes by hozier

a few different levels come from this song. while it was created with the idea of how tedious social gatherings are, the story that comes from it makes another world. kiana is asocial, and struggles with fear over social situations, which make something like dinner parties quite stressful for her. she’s also someone who isn’t fond of small talk, and more likely that type to say ‘talk to me about your deepest fears,’ but... she actually means it and isn’t saying it to be pretentious. she would much rather see the sickest, nastiest parts of someone, soak all of that up, than talk about whether the food was good. the music video describes this in part, but also gives a hades/persephone but worse type of story that is also quite kiana aligned. that’s the kind of love i’ve been dreaming of

6. creep by radiohead

i want you to notice when i’m not around. so fuckin special, i wish i was special, but i’m a creep. not to ‘have you ever seen me without this hat’ on you, but lissen! kiana is forever convinced she’s an outsider. the things she likes are more Cool these days than they were when she was a kid, but the feeling of being ostracized for liking them back then will always live with her. she’s an insecure overthinking fuck at times too. and also desperately wants to be someone special, and unique, as if having that would make her pain of feeling different worth it

7. seigfried by frank ocean

the meaning of this song is pretty different from how i view it in relation to kiana. for her, the focus is on the idea of ‘settling down’ being... acceptance of normality? her whole life, she’s been searching for someone and/or something that makes her feel special. she became an idol for this exact reason, dated her ex for that reason, seeks the relationships she does, thinks she could still have superpowers for this reason. but the truth is that she’s pretty normal. her hobbies are very normal people type things. her talents aren’t anything that would have her being called top of the line. her thoughts are all things other people have thought of. her booksmart intelligence isn’t any stronger than the average. she is very normal, and the tiny part of her that acknowledges that usually shoves it away. but on occasion, she wonders if she should accept it, and settle

gimme gimme love is all you really need to know lol kiana doesn’t stick around easily when she’s not being given the same kind of world-ending affection from those she’s chosen to share that with that she gives out. she gives at Least 110% of her love, affection, and loyalty into anyone that she has chosen to keep closest to her heart, and if she isn’t getting that back, she can feel dejected, unloved, and unimportant. she may give people like this a few chances to change, but her expectations, or “standards,” won’t change

cos i can’t help turning my love into pain is the strongest lyric that ties back to kiana. the overall message isn’t as strong because king princess has a different view on a relationship as described than kiana. for her, it’s yet another kiana will put herself in the face of terrible parts of relationships. the trouble is that she enjoys it, and seeks it, thinking it’s the ultimate show of love. not to pain one another, but to be pained without them. also realizing after all these i should be saying this applies to her inner circle friendships as well, but the standards are just a little less heavy

not one for big gatherings, kiana likes to have her social interaction either through the wire, or in small groups (duos are best to her tbh) the song has an upbeat tune that contrasts against the lyrical meaning of something more about... any song will do, something to drag away the sadness that’s living inside. kiana functions a bit like that, always seeking her uniqueness to bust out and save her from her own mind thinking she’s not good enough

11. why won’t they talk to me? by tame impala

she is asocial, but that doesn’t mean being a hermit,, an otaku,, whatever you want to call her, is a life full of happiness. she functions very well on her own, but when she has that for too long, it can be damaging to her head as well, especially when she has inner circle friends or a romantic relationship. when not speaking to these people, the need for human connection seems unbearable to deal with, and anxiety runs rampant

12. alien by lee suhyun

her mama told her she’s alien, but actually it was herself telling herself she’s alien mixed with influence from pop culture making her want to be a superhero and kids who told her she was a freak, all coming together in the desire for weirdness to be a Cool thing. kiana will wish til the day she croaks that she will have a realization that she has a special power

ki doesn’t care about the core message of this song. many people relate to oh no bills~ adult stress~ but kiana doesn’t. even if she wasn’t born into a family that could live comfortably, and didn’t become an idol making phat stacks, she would feel the same. to her, it’s an inevitability. HOWEVA the beginning lines are 1:1 for how she wishes to be something extraordinary, and is supa insecure that she isn’t. i wish found some better sounds that no one’s ever heard. i wish i had a better voice that sang some better words ... i was told when i get older all my fears would shrink but now i’m insecure and i care what people think

not exactly 1:1 word by word, since there’s several perspectives coming in one song, however, the overall message i think can be summed in it’s a true crime to be without you. other lines like i’d open up my chest for your entertainment, that was the line that drew me to originally put this in the playlist. i’m not sure on a story behind the song, but it strikes me as something bonnie & clyde-esque? there’s themes of being on the run, lying on the pavement dying, stuff like that. that kind of relationship is strongly the ideals kiana holds for her romantic and close platonic relationships

i cannot explain to u the random joy this dumb song gave me when it came out. it’s similar to power up like i just?? get so happy lol anyway the whole premise is like nerdy person has a crush n theyre like oh my god~ why would u like me~ i cant say i like u~ it’s super fucking cute. i’m a loser who loves you. yes, i’m a misery. to you, i’m a nuisance, i’m an outsider, but in this world, i only need you. that’s where the kiana part comes in strongest, or explains it in one sentence. she worries she isn’t enough for others but her affections are always incredibly strong. also she’s cute

when i first heard this song, i needed to play it again to pay attention to the lyrics because i had the feeling it was kiana-esque. i was right, but i would say that it’s where kiana could go at her worst. has she been there? i’m not so sure. perhaps teetering on the edge of having her claws out, but really, for now, it’s just that the potential is there

so as to not repeat myself too much and because this is so much fookin writing already, this is another song that talks about how deeply and dangerously kiana falls into others. she’s no angel, but she’s my religion, always finding ways to numb the pain ... made me feel like i was finally enough ... she needs this love just as much as me

this song has similar themes to alien, but rather than about being special, it’s about being in a shitty place and letting your mind wander to create a better reality. ki has her interests, her extreme love of her fandoms, because it’s an escape for her. that’s not something i personally approve of, however, it’s a common reality for many people. living in these online spaces and thinking of these fictional worlds gives her a place to go to when the irl world is too difficult for her to handle

19. me! me! me! by teddyloid

you might think this is a meme addition and sure! to a degree it is! but i’m also going to talk about it as an actual piece of music and visuals. first we’ll talk about the music video. kiana feels complicated about the type of anime fans that oversexualize everything, so in general, she likes a message that’s against those types. the message of addiction tearing real life relationships apart also is something kiana sorta needs to hear. the lyrics of the song itself talk about an all consuming type of relationship, and dissects it to explain how it wasn’t love, but worship, which was dangerous to them both. it’s a song that kiana perhaps would need to take to heart, but i, as her mun, am unsure if she ever will. that depends on the connections she forms, and what types of people are goading her on, or trying to get her to stop

Let’s see, Scientists who study the wierd and paranaormal, were both betrayed by their mentors/muses by unknowingly working with them and are paranoid because their boss/muse can see their every move and have slowly gone insane and are on a mission in order to stop them from coming back and destroying the world. ♾ check. Thought Amy can be a somewhat inversion of ford and is a more of a responsible guardian figure than him( but not by a lot),

Sasha Mc.Hale

Katniss Everdeen( Hunger Games)| Jotaro Kujo(JJBA)

Why I chose 2 characters for Sasha’s section is not because of favoritism, but because I couldnt decide which character fitted Sasha the best so I chose both. Katniss and Sasha are so similar that you might confuse them as twins. They are both independent loners who have a survivalist attitude. They both had to close off their emotions at a young age due to traumatic events. They're both cold and blunt and hate being controlled by higher authority. They are basically the same except for the love triangle shenanigans since Sasha is Ace. You could also apply some of those traits to her and Jotaro(Sasha would call Amy a bitch if she snaps) Though she would have more of Jotaro’s delinquent “Yare-Yare Daze” aesthetic rather than Katniss’s YA heroine aesthetic. 

Leah Mc.Hale

Grizz (WBB)

They’re both perky and energetic older siblings who want the best for their siblings. They’re the eldest siblings/leaders of the trio. Both of them have a desire to be famous and popular; Grizz with being a movie star while Leah wants to be a superhero(though she would audition to be a meme). They’re both sometimes selfish and ignore their siblings' advice in order to do what they believe is right for them and kind-of have a hero complex(?). You could say that Grizz is Leah’s fursona! (I’m so sorry)

Michiko Mc.Hale

Retsuko(Aggretsuko)

This one is pretty self explanitory, Michiko and Retsuko have a lot of interlapping character traits; their both soft spoken pushovers who work hard and have a hard time finding their true passions. Their also oblivious when someones crushing on them. There both also talented singers who become idols later on, though I don’t think Michiko would be interested in singing hardcore death metal at first, but she would find it more theraputic than the old way she would take out all her rage(by repressing it). Also would be michiko’s possible fursona. (you could also add nudge from Maximum ride into this but I cant find any gifs of her)

Gabe (no cannon last name)

What kind of Barbie movie would you have liked to see? (For example: I would've LOVED Sleeping Beauty to complete the trilogy of Tchaikovsky ballets)

Oh man, the thought of Sleeping Beauty haunts me every day. That would have been SO good. But aside from that...

I somewhat wish we had a Princess and the Pea movie, bc I love that fairy tale. But I think it could be really hard to stretch it into a movie without it being like... stupid. The story is VERY simple, and the princess isn't really the heroine, she just kind of wanders in during a storm asking for a place to sleep. Maybe if they focused on like... Why she was out during a storm? Idk. There's potential, but it's not RIPE with it.

Speaking of favorite fairy tales... Little Red Riding Hood is my FAVORITE fairy tale of all time and I wish they did something with it. It could have been Pink Riding Hood... With potential for a werewolf (my favorite way to do LRRH retellings)... A Ken with a wolf costume head like they did for Nutcracker and I think some D*sney BatB dolls... We shall never know. But I think about it a lot.

A Princess Power or Star Light Adventure sequel would have been good, I think. Superheroes and space are ripe for franchises, and I feel like they had a lot of potential that was wasted there, particularly with SLA bc it seems like they might have plans for more (the comic being #1, etc) but those got scrapped, probably bc of poor toy sales. But also... The SLA toy line wasn't that great. There was this rc hoverboard thing that I remember seeing FOREVER on the shelves after the movie, probably bc it was so damn expensive. I think gimmicky toys like that cant really kill a line, and I wish they would focus more on just dolls and maybe like, one playset.

Princess Power also got those 3 dolls with different costumes released after the movie, and I wonder if they were meant to be a part of some kind of sequel thing that also got scrapped, bc I think it was a long time after the movie (not sure if it was several months or a year?) but I guess we'll never know.

Also, Rock N Royals had potential for like, a tour movie or something, and they could have them traveling around and maybe arguing bc of their differences but there would be an aesop about friendship and sticking together thru anything, or something like that.

Anyway, all that sequel talk only applies if those movies were released within a year or two, which has passed now. I'm pretty settled in my headcanons now and I would be upset if something else came out that changed them. I'd probably still fall in love with whatever they did, but the possibility of sequels I did not anticipate HAS kept me awake at night more than once lol

ROAD TO THE OSCAR MAYER WEINER AWARDS 2K19

thats right u precious little gifts from heaven it is finally time to look at the previous year’s movies, trudge through the piles of shit, and pick out the very best shiniest golden nuggets cause ITS WIENER SEASON BABBIIIEEEE

............... ok so i gotta level with y’all for a second this enthusiasm is very very forced this year.  i was taking a look at the list of nominees the other day and was like, almost shocked???  does it seem shorter than usual this year to y’all or is it just me????  where are all the cool movies????????  how in gods name did that movie where christian bale wears a dick cheney suit for two hours get nominated for so much shit???????????????

this list is extremely underwhelming, especially considering some great movies came out this year.  i know that horror movies being nominated for oscars is a long shot but like goddamn y’all are really gonna snub my girl toni collette???  did u not SEE her performance in hereditary???????  the suspiria remake was fucking phenomenal too and i thought for sure dakota johnson might get something especially since she more than redeemed herself after the 50 Shades shitshow but nope nothing for her either!  i guess cause get out got noms last year the academy has deemed it inappropriate to nominate more than one Spooky Scary movie in a decade

so out of the eight best picture noms ive only seen 2 of them, A Star is Born and Black Panther, so i dont really know how much i can say about this list right now until i start watching and reviewing them individually.  so i guess ill just touch on the two ive seen by saying that i dont really think either of them is deserving of a best picture nom (which is probably a controversial statement but WHOOPS).  theyre both good movies for sure (and ill go more in depth on my Feelings on both of them in their reviews), but theyre both very commercial, very run-of-the-mill films that cater to a mass audience but dont really do much else.  and thats not to say that films with mass appeal cant be good enough to get nominated for oscars, i just dont think that these two movies Did That.

in fact now that i mention it there are quite a few commercially successful films on the noms list this year that didnt really stand out to me enough to warrant them getting noms at all.  Avengers: Infinity War entertained the shit outta me and its gotta be the best modern superhero movie ive seen in the past few years but its by no means groundbreaking.  who the fuck knows why Christopher Robin got nominated at all cause the visual effects are nothing to write home about, and like is it just protocol now to throw oscars noms at Star Wars movies????  i heard solo: a star wars story was boring and lifeless but yeah sure just throw em a visual effects nom just for the hell of it

im betting money that Supreme Overlord Disney has a lot to do with this, cause their scope over the film and television industry has skyrocketed over the past few years.  theyre buying companies left and right so at this point its actually not much of a surprise to me that quite a few of their films have made it onto the oscars noms list.  which is uuuhhhhh a little terrifying when u think about it for too long but EEHHH FUCK IT DISNEY WORLD AND MICKEY MOUSE AMIRITE FELLOW LADS

i will say that i am very excited to check out a decent amount of the movies on the list.  barry jenkins came out with If Beale Street Could Talk right on time for awards season and ive heard nothing but great things so im really pumped and Ready To Cry.  and The Favorite, by the same director who did The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, has been on my to-watch list since it was released in theaters.  yorgos lanthimos has such an interesting and unique vision with his films, and it will be really cool to see his style applied to something like a classic period piece.  its also really awesome to see a foreign language film also be nominated for best picture, so ill have to try and check out Roma which so far has had stellar reviews.  First Reformed seems like the kind of steadily-paced drama/thriller that i just cant get enough of so that’s going on my watchlist for sure, and despite my mixed feelings on spike lee BlacKkKlansman was overall positively received so ill give it a watch.  the only two animated films i have any interest in seeing are Mirai and Into the Spiderverse (which im honestly hoping wins cause it just looks so goddamn cool), and maaaaaybe ill see Isle of Dogs.  maybe.  oh and i almost forgot about The Ballad of Buster Scruggs!!  its neat seeing a made-for-Netflix movie on the oscars list and ill never say no to a Coen Brothers movie so thats one to watch.

well i think thats about it for now!!  normally i have a lot more to say about the oscars before i even start doing the movie reviews but idk man there hasnt been much hype about this years awards ceremony.  i dont even wanna get into the whole kevin hart situation cause thats just a complete clusterfuck and a lil cringey (*cough* U DO NOT SPEAK FOR ALL OF THE GAYS ELLEN SIT UR ASS DOWN *cough*) but thats besides the point.  i have soooooo much shit to say about black panther and a star is born so get ur reading eyes ready cause those posts are gonna be REAL LONG! and otherwise it should be a good and fun and fresh time!!  if there are any movies on the noms list that i didnt mention here that u want me to see lemme know, especially if u have recommendations for the documentary nominations cause i havent heard of any of them except for RGB.

My brother and I are discussing how to put out tropey indulgent media out there while still making original content that is aware of its environment. 

We were looking at tropes and stupidities that we never get tired of in movies/books/games and why we still kind of want them in our content. For example, I can’t get enough of Enemies to Lovers and the bro loves the Jerk with a Heart of Gold Trope. How do you incorporate that into new original ways to stories that still feature a socially conscious voice?

You cannot slap on traits of that trope and expect it to work. You cannot frame the shortcomings of the trope as ideal and you cannot gloss over the ramifications of the trope. Discard what is harmful, take what you love, and run with it. 

EDUCATE YOURSELF, really though, figure out the shortcomings of this trope. Where does it fail? Where does it succeed? I know that my Enemies to Lovers falls through A LOT! How many times do you find  they’re battling each other and clearly the writers weren’t aware of the rules of said trope and they end up being ultimately flat and abusive? The Byronic Hero being the other one people get wrong A LOT. How do you tread that line with elements that can easily run into abusive and violent (or fucking stupid for that matter)? Same for the Jerk with a Heart of Gold  trope, which done properly is great. How many of us have fallen prey to any character who cracks wise and makes bad decisions but ultimately loves and cares? If done badly it treads into dismissive/belittling/abusive 

To give examples of two shortcomings and two successes with these tropes I’ll offer up:

Byronic Hero:

Good: Mr Rochester 

Bad: Literally any bad YA love interest

“Byronic heroes are charismatic characters with strong passions and ideals, but who are nonetheless deeply flawed individuals who may act in ways which are socially reprehensible because he's definitely contrary to his mainstream society. A Byronic hero is on his own side and has his own set of beliefs which he will not bow nor change for anyone. A Byronic hero is a character whose internal conflicts are heavily romanticized and who himself ponders and wrestles with his struggles and beliefs. Some are portrayed with a suggestion of dark crimes or tragedies in their past.” THE LITERAL BYRONIC HERO TROPE PAGE

I feel like that biblical paragraph sums up the Byronic Hero. Where lets say Rochester and Frankenstein or their modern equivalents never have their behaviour or actions framed as good, we still find ourselves engaging with them. It’s indulgent in its admission. It has to be your bag, and it’s that you have to be here for. You have to like engaging with a character that has done bad things but still has enough emotional relatability that instills fascination. 

What is not fascinating/enjoying/attractive is watching bad YA that frames these bad qualities as ideal or go as far as to fetishize them. For instance, the possessive boyfriend angle ‘cause it’s hot is one of my PET PEEVES. YOU WILL ALWAYS GET MORE TRACTION WITH FRAMING THEM AS BAD THAN HAVING THEM DO CREEPY SHIT AND BANKING ON US EMOTIONALLY ENGAGING WITH THEM POSITIVELY. (Looking at you Tiger’s Curse)

You have to be aware where the trope works and where it doesn’t. The authors of bad YA have the intent to make them conflicted/tragic/flawed but don’t really want to examine what made those byronic heroes enjoyable. Instead they take surface attributes and slap them on. Byronic Hero is hiding a wife in the attic (BAD and framed as such)! Bad YA Love Interest is demeaning and patronizing to flirt (BAD and framed as good!) Challenges God and Nature and is NOW A FATHER (Not So Great Frankenstein and not framed as such) . Bad YA Love Interest is physically possessive because that is what this demographic finds sexy (BAd and framed as Good)

Here is an alternative! YA Love interest does bad shit and its not framed as anything good! The protag can react with more autonomy than :Oh that’s hot and my reader’s will think so too! The protag can be dismissive, angry, or shitty right back! No one is absolved! But you can still engage with them on a more nuanced level. You can suddenly make connections with the Byronic Hero because you understand their fear or their conflict, rather have it be a lazy flashback to explain why your bad YA Love Interest is being shitty. 

How to be indulgent: Make your awful characters awful and frame them as such! IF you’re able to create a subtle character that warrants the trope then clearly they have what it takes to be engaging! 

The Jerk with a Heart of Gold trope:

Good: Iron Man (I know people with debate this but we like him in this house so go with it) 

Bad: Any sitcom husband ever

“A person you would expect to be a big Jerkass has some redeeming qualities behind their tough demeanor. Occasionally, they'll try to make it a Hidden Heart of Gold.” - The Jerk with a Heart of Gold TV Tropes Page. 

Awareness is a big factor in incorporating this trope into new ideas and new content because I don’t think this one is ever going away. It obviously manifests in different capacities and genres. But I chose the above examples because they’re familiar, and can be played for drama and laughs. 

Tony Stark is a good iteration Jerk with a Heart of Gold because his actions aren’t framed as harmless or irrelevant. He is a hot mess, he says it himself. He makes bad decision after bad decision and endangers himself and others in the process. Why does he still have a heart of gold? He still gets the “save the cat moment” and he is given time to show his conflict and reasoning as relatable.  He creates Ultron, sides with the UN in Civil War (I still see a lot of his motivation as valid which to each their own when it comes to that movie). He does so out of guilt and the desperate need to hold himself accountable. Being the only person on the avengers who fights by ways of inventions he has understood the consequences of bringing this technology in the world and stepping up an arms race. And yet he continues to fight. To an audience we see his shortcomings as an individual. And yet we feel for him. He is framed with a more subtle dialogue, he is flawed, he tries to be heroic, but he has no clue what he’s doing, and continues anyways.        

I bring Sitcom Husband up because so often show writers will create Sitcom Husband with harmful and toxic male coded traits in mind. They are:

Callous, lazy, clueless, domineering, stupid, always wrong, uglier than their partner, enforce toxic gendered norms, homophobic, transphobic, and/or racist? 

You are not framing your Sitcom Husband’s actions as shitty and bad and worthy of changing. They are being framed as commonplace, expected, and normal. These are not just “jerk” things to do, they are emblematic of larger social issues that many sitcom writers shouldn’t be allowed to tackle. There is the opportunity to have characters that evolve and change but they aren’t allowed because they represent you, the male viewer, and you are shitty and unable of changing. And to all the other genders out there: this is your lot and life, this is how people will treat you. 

Flawed Superhero sides with the UN (Not Ideal but Framed with Good intentions). Sitcom Husband cant remember anything relevant about children’s lives (NOT GREAT but framed as commonplace instead emblematic of a larger issue).

To give an example of Sitcom dads who don’t hit this bad note: Bob from Bob’s Burgers is great, he’s tired of his family’s Shenanigans, but loves them and would do anything for them. An example of Jerk with a Heart of Gold that doesn’t have his shitty actions framed as okay but is still likeable (sounds a bit Byronic Heroish but he’s not trust me). 

The Lens:

Gender

The Byronic Hero and the Jerkass with a Heart of Gold are very gender laden tropes as well. The moment you apply these tropes to people who are not cis men, they transform in meaning, and not to mention, there are BARELY ANY OF THEM. Just trying to find villains who are just cis women with proper writing is a task in 2018. These terms get applied to men and their definitions are validated by their interaction with heroines or other men. 

The failed Byronic Hero is aimed at “female audiences”. It’s a tangled snare of a male content creators guessing at what “women” want and women who have fetishized and internalized the failures of this trope. All come to the conclusion that “chicks dig bad boys”. Not to be that person, but it also vastly misunderstands the appeal that Byronic Heroes have for all genders. It is extremely difficult to create new content that pays homage to this trope without hitting the pitfalls of most media. 

The failed Jerk with a Heart of Goal is aimed at a gender dichotomous audience. It’s a snub of content creators of what they think, you, man or woman, are. The faults are framed as inevitable manifestations of gender and yet still excusable because these jerk related tendencies are just part of being man or a woman, and not a vast social system that favours few and marginalizes many. This extends to race and sexuality as well. Your jerkishness is thanks to your identity, and therefore, unchangeable. 

Race

From a race perspective? They’re all white. We are at a point in Western Media, at the very least, where diversity is becoming an increasing demand. But with media content creators still being part of an out of touch racial group, it’s difficult to see any character, let alone anyone with the discussed tropes represented. We are at the point where your diversity, if a larger role, is going to be portrayed as perfect. This is a major issue I take with creating poc, and woc characters, not to mention characters of different gender and sexual identities. There aren’t enough diverse content creators to get us past this block of creators making them perfect because they don’t know how to make a human character who is also of color. 

This makes the Jerkass with a Heart of Gold impossible to tackle. We are starting to see more fleshed out characters nowadays. It is still a fairly recent sensation to HAVE A SELECTION to chose from.

I would love it if Byronic Heroes and Jerks With A Heart of Gold came in color. We are meant to watch white guys do bad shit and engage with the conflict of their character. And as a mixed race women it is definitely a weird place to sit when one does enjoy tropes like that. IT’s even more unsettling when we can’t extend that empathetic engagement  to men of color, or woc, or god forbid, trans people. (let everyone have a byronic hero honestly)

And in a world of hate crimes and deplorable race relations, what is the relevancy of this trope? What is the relevancy of this trope in a visual mass media already saturated with badly written YA Love Interest or Not So Deep Byronic Heroes?

I’m not an expert, but as a  consumer of books/tv/movies/etc I don’t think fiction is the root of all mankind’s evil and I don’t think fading this trope out of visual mass media is going to get rid of it. I, personally, think we need more content creators of color, of different gender identities, and different sexualities reinterpreting Jerk Ass with a Heart of Gold and the Byronic Hero.

Gender Binary and Sexuality

I chose these two tropes because they’re traditionally VERY gender related. And I mention this to clarify that the market is aimed at a gender binary: straight girl or straight boy. Gays, Bis, Non Binary, Gender fluid, or trans folk, for example, are left out of the equation of: what do they want to see in media?

I do know that for as long as evil has existed there has always been a very clear coding as to what the villain’s sexuality might be. It’s clearly deplorable how literally the only representation a huge marginalized community get will be in the form of a morally or sexually debauched villain. Which is why I will never forgive LeFou being made gay (you couldn’t have picked any other character from your 600000 other features Disney?). 

Also as a Cis woman, I don’t feel like I can do an accurate run down of how indulgent tropes fail or succeed with a LGBT lens. I have a base idea of WHAT NOT TO DO but I would rather see other people talk about it! 

 So PLEASE! Add to this discussion! I would love to hear about which tropes you love but where media fails you and in what capacity! Or where they’ve gone right! 

But as someone who loves their tropey enemies-to-lovers and villains I will keep returning to them in my media consumption and I be subject to paying them homage when the time is appropriate!

YEAAAAHHHH. we have 5 dogs, Bec (jack russel terrier/poodle mix), Muffin (shih tzu), Suju (lab), Arya (lab), and Robbin (lab). and we got two turtles too, both of them red eared sliders. Isaac and Tweek.

pippin owns my ass because it was my first musical and got me to love theatre. jesus christ superstar is a close second because it’s fucking jesus christ superstar. les mis holds a special place in my heart esp since it’s the first Big musical i saw live when les mis manila happened. spring awakening and next to normal also get honorable mentions because they Rock and got me into the more recent musical scene (my tastes were very very classic back then) +++ a local prod, three stars and a sun, a ridiculously cool jukebox musical using the music of francis magalona about post apocalyptic philippines. and another local prod, kung paano ako naging leading lady, a musical about superheroes. i have too much love in my heart for musicals

no!! it’s really weird!! ive fallen down flights of stairs several times and still no broken bones, so i think im invincible. i’ll update you guys when i get hit by a car if my hypothesis holds true

The Gifted is over for now, and so are a couple of its major characters

Since we last left the beleaguered mutants and mutant-adjacent characters of Fox’s possibly-doomed X-Men spinoff series The Gifted, they’ve been doing what they do best: constantly changing sides. Say this for a series that sometimes threatens to move quickly while going nowhere: It didn’t save a bunch of reversals for the season finale, a move that would have shamelessly mimicked the events that ended Season 1. No, before the finale even aired, there were change-ups and switch-backs and feints aplenty: Andy Strucker, the wayward aspiring edgelord, finally returned to his family. His fellow Inner Circle member Polaris, the smart-mouthed, revolution-hungry daughter of Magneto, became a spy for the Mutant Underground, accidentally got Sage killed, made the same reversal, after (further) revelations about Reeva’s extreme methods for her pro-mutant group. Blink left the Mutant Underground to join the Morlocks, then got killed... or, it seems, stuck in some kind of portal purgatory. (Wherever she is, it’s no longer in the MU.) Less officially, Caitlin Strucker has pivoted from reluctant and protective mom figure to fiery freedom fighter, and Reed Strucker is now a murderer! Which Andy finds very relatable.

I’m not trying to recap every development of the past couple months. Suffice to say, there’s been a lot of group-hopping, and a lot of those groups getting backed into different corners and shooting powers and/or bullets at each other. “oMens” dispenses with voluntary side-switching, though it also quickly dispenses with the Strucker family reunion, as Andy and Lauren get snatched back up by the Cuckoos just as they’re plotting their latest out-of-the-corner escape, from their Purifier-surrounded apartment building. Reeva, mostly undaunted by the defections in her ranks, wants to use the combined Strucker powers to destroy the Sentinel Services building.

And she succeeds! A whole damn building gets destroyed without a whole lot of fanfare before Esme’s slight hesitation allows the Mutant Underground to recapture their youngest members. None of this feels as momentous as it probably should, because “oMens” performs an uncommonly adroit—for this show anyway—act of refocusing the story from a multitude of drawn-out, season-long arcs to a particular character’s particular fate in a kind of back-to-basics move.

Usually back to basics is not where I want The Gifted to go, because it involves returning to the Struckers, who are consistently the least interesting and most irritating characters on this program (sometimes actively, sometimes just by default). But while the episode’s additional flashbacks are written in the same clunk-on-the-nose style as the typical cold opens without the benefit of brevity, the scenes from the marriage of Caitlin and Reed do build to something: Reed’s sudden decision to go up against Reeva, knowing that her attempts to knock out his powers will backfire, destroying her... and him.

And he succeeds! And there is the episode’s more momentous explosion, despite the smaller number of casualties. Reed Strucker dies, and Stephen Moyer is presumably off of this show, if there’s even still a show for him to be off of. (More on this in a moment.) Reed was, as mentioned, never my favorite character on the show, and Moyer’s performance always felt a bit too workmanlike to transcend how stodgy the character has been written. But I admit, I found his sacrifice, and his family’s devastation, affecting. On a less emotional level, I admire Gifted creator Matt Nix (who penned this installment, his first one in a while) for seeming to understand what a corner Reed had been written into, either defined by suppressing his powers, or defined by not being able to control them. To make such a serious, controlled personality realize that his destiny in all this (ugh, but I’ll allow it) involved surrendering control—at least of his body.

This move takes out season-long Big Bad Reeva, too, and I have to say, she turned out to be sort of a disappointing villain. Grace Byers certainly cuts a stylish figure in the part, but Reeva pretty quickly settled into the predictable kind of movie/TV ideologue, willing to game the results in order to hasten violent revolution on her side, blah blah blah. The most notable aspect of her character wound up being the strange visual cue that through some combination of framing, the Byers performance, and a profoundly dopey-looking depiction of her mutant power, Reeva often looked like she doesn’t have use of her arms. Now she has use of nothing.

It’s a satisfying end for Reed and a relief to be done with Reeva, but “oMens,” in typically fast-paced and mostly entertaining fashion, does point to just how much of this season has consisted of rapid piece-moving, a sort of perpetual motion that’s often fun in the moment but can feel wearying and repetitive over the course of 16 episodes; I think the slightly extended season was a mistake, and if anything, this is the type of show where 10 would be fine. Especially considering that even with more episodes at their disposal, the resolution of the finale felt a little rushed: Reed dies, the Struckers mourn, Polaris and Eclipse are reunited with their daughter, Morlock Erg (Michael Luwoye, whose increased role has been a pleasure of the last bunch of episodes) joins the group for real, as does Esme (great additions, also basically not commented upon at all). Another reconfigured group—and another cliffhanger, as Blink returns, looking futuristic and Future Past-y, ushering everyone through a new portal.

Whether we’ll get to actually see what’s on the other side is, as ever, in some doubt. The Fox-Disney deal is about to close, and if the new studio doesn’t want a mostly pretty successful X-Men movie franchise on its hands (it doesn’t) and already has MCU and Star Wars plans for its streaming service (it does) and can wash its hands of ancillary X-Men stuff (it can), and wants to treat anything that’s not Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool as ancillary (it does), well, it doesn’t look great for the modestly rated, if somewhat appreciated, The Gifted Season 3... though maybe it will get yet another stay of execution based on the Fox Network as we know it maybe not having time to wind all the way down and reboot itself as largely sports and reality by September 2019. There are definitely moments in “oMens” that feel like they’re protecting the show’s fans for both possibilities: Most of the characters get some resolution to their emotional journeys, while the Blink thing assures fans that it’s not over, unless it is.

But that’s sort of an X-Men thing, too, isn’t it? I mean, it applies to a lot of superhero comics, but the X-Men in particular feel like a neverending strife generator. The movies reflect this, too: Days Of Future Past fixes the timeline, but Logan’s timeline still leaves plenty of room for heartbreak. The Last Stand gets justifiably erased from continuity, but then Dark Phoenix comes around and Jean looks like she’s wearing almost the same stupid goddamn Evil Jacket. Some of this, as in the comics medium, is pure franchise-driven cynicism: We gotta keep the series going even if we don’t have a plan, until such time as the plan gets scotched for unrelated corporate-merger reasons. But I think one reason I respond well to the X-Men characters on film and TV is that this neverending fight isn’t entirely mercenary. It’s also sometimes how the world works. If there’s any non-obvious, non-telegraphed truth in the earnest pulp of The Gifted, that might be it.

Stray observations:

OK, comics nerds, get to nerding: Are they just teasing a second, lower-budget Days Of Future Past riff with that Blink thing, or is there another storyline this Blink reappearance is queuing up?

There were such big doings a-transpiring with the Struckers this episode that I didn’t have rom above to mention how the mutants’ latest escape involved Thunderbird subjecting himself to an all-out chain-wrapping, speed-ramped, mailbox-throwing brawl, with a coda where he punches powers into Erg! I don’t have anything smart to say about any of that; I just thought it ruled.

Did Polaris say “the whole dang government” in her first scene? Dagnabbit, she really is softening.

“In a way, I feel like we’ve been preparing for this for a long time,” Lauren says about powering up with Andy, without so much as a wink. Yeah, Lauren. Like maybe 16 episodes? Or 29?

Caitlin, explaining her cache of guns: “I don’t have an X-gene. I figured it was the next best thing.” Her superpower is a bunch of guns; Caitlin is basically the Punisher now.

This season of The Gifted has really leaned into its stylized camera angles; canted angles have been all over these episodes, and “oMens” used plenty of low-angle shots, too. A nice way of keeping the show comic-book-y without getting too crazy.

Maybe I missed more details on this earlier in the season when I was watching merely for fun and not for recappery, but... the Purifiers are a crazed race-war militia, right? And law enforcement never really bats an eye at this? This episode includes a tossed-off explanation that the cops are willing to look the other way when they surround the apartment building, but Jace Turner (whose big journey seems to be a never-ending circle) is leading a full-on gun battle in the streets, and it’s not the first time. I get that maybe the show thinks it’s doing commentary here, but I feel like after a series of escalating firefights, the cops would not be looking the other way, or if they did, they’d just see another Purifier gun battle.

Is this the end of me writing about The Gifted?! If so, thank you guys for watching along with me! I’ve really enjoyed taking this regular dose of X-Men methadone in between the movies, and I’ll be bummed if there’s truly no more Fox-era X-Men stuff after this summer. Don’t let Tony Stark be the one who builds Cerebro!
