Can I get one of OverWatch where the reader is the S/O of Genji, Hanzo, Junkrat, Roadhog, and Junker Queen? Like, How would they react to a reader who has a sword that looks normal at first but when their S/O sees their partner in danger, the sword reveals itself as a cursed sword where the blade changes color and their S/O changes into a demon form (whenever the curse takes effect) to protect their partner and change back once they're safe.
Genji,Hanzo, JQ, Junkrat, and Roadhog w/ a plant sword and demon powers
Sorry it's all headcanons -Xor & Frisk

Junker Queen
❦ ════ •⊰♔⊱• ════ ❦
Ms.Ma'am is FLABBERGASTED
Also lowkey jealous bc thats so cool???? If she could she'd yoink it but since it's your's she won't
She would totally say your sword and Gracie (her knife) are besties
Finds your demon form so incredibly cool
Would absolutely try and fight you while your in it, just to see how it'd go
She can handle herself so it probably wouldn't happen very often
But when it does she's lowkey so into it bc yeah, fuck shit up bbg
Roadhog
━━━━━━━𓃟━━━━━━━
It's hard to impress this man .
Even harder so for him to get into danger he can't handle.
Seeing you use your sword for the first time absolutely left him keeling.
He was so lost for a moment because who in junker town uses a sword when most people have ranged weapons.
He was surprised at how well you handled yourself , especially with your short temper.
Watching you transform was something else , he half expected something else
But a demon that's something else
Left him speechless more speechless than normal
100% let you know how much he appreciates you afterwards.
Actually make that 200% with a side of approval and cuddles
Junkrat
⫷════ •⊰♨⊱• ════⫸
he's been trying to steal your sword it was why he got with you before he fell In love
the moment he sees what that can do he just wants it , he wants to hold it and tell you , that you've found something gorgeous
He completely forgot the danger for a second before a junker grabbed him by the throat
He was littleraly in awe watching you cut them down, until one of them managed to get the upper hand.
Immediately made the comment that he picked a "feisty one"
100% asks you to show him how you did all of that
Tried to bite your sword afterwards and chipped a tooth
Genji

At first he's generally a little startled he never expected you to hold so much potential when Null Sector cornered him .
He loved watching the vines and flowers wrap around your sword it seems so cool and he definitely wanted to try it .
After you'd gotten hurt and decided as a last sitch effort to I leash your demon is he was worried about how the fight might go.
You were very injured at the end but watching you cut and claw down the massive robot he made sure you got the medical treatment you deserved
100% he teaches you how to defend yourself he doesn't want you getting hurt like that again
He also begs to try out your fancy sword , he lets you use his in returns
Hanzo
≫━─━─━─━─◈─━─━─━─━⫸
Bro does not know how to feel
Flashbacks to his brother
Also finds it interesting though in more of a "watching from a distance" way
Also isn't in danger too often though its more likely for him
Out of everyone would probably ask the most logical questions like where your sword came from, how it does all that cool shit, can he try it- etc etc
Would also probably wanna try fighing you though just to try and train for if he ever comes into contact with someone who had a similar ability

Carving (Part 2) - Tighnari
Gender neutral reader, part 1 here. Reader is in danger in this part, Tighnari comes to save them.
--
How did you get here?
Well, you got an urgent letter from the adventurer's guild. Apparently, someone inexperienced decided to venture into the more difficult parts of the rainforest. Specifically, they were fixated on exploring caves, and for some reason they hadn't returned within the past few days.
You found them easily enough, simply stranded at the bottom of a cave because they forgot they needed to have a way out as well as a way in.
After creating an exit route using some vines, the adventurer scrambles to get climbing. When they reach the top, you're at the midpoint, and because of their scrambling you land up getting tangled up in the makeshift ladder. You hear a snap, and you hit the ground quite hard considering your limbs were now restricted. The adventurer, like the coward they are, runs away home instead of getting help. Your dusk bird, of course, was the one to find out, and after realising you couldn't safely get out of the vine trap you were now in, flies off to get help the moment it realises its beak can't tear open the vines. Even if it could, it wasn't like you didn't have any damage, and your dusk bird learned to act off its own instinct instead of your word.
--
Tighnari was in the middle of his report for the day, assigning various tasks, when he feels something nipping at the top of his head. Looking up, he spots a dusk bird. After getting his attention, the dusk bird flies towards the cave you're stuck in, only to realise he isn't following along. Flying back, it starts to actively nip at his arm.
"Argh! Don't make me cook you." Tighnari huffs, swatting it away as he watches it, once again, fly in the same direction it previously did. "Wait here. Those of you who have tasks, I trust you can get on with those." Tighnari states, following the bird out of intrigue. Usually, dusk birds were known for being messengers, delivering letters. This one piqued his curiosity, and he would rather follow this bird since it seemed to be seeking some sort of assistance.
Reaching the cave, the bird hovers above you before starting to descend, causing Tighnari to finally spot you. You landed up losing consciousness, the adrenaline from hitting the ground work off. Tighnari makes his way down, chipping at an escape route before picking you up. The dusk bird starts making noise in Tighnaris ear loudly, making him flinch.
"I'm going to treat your owner." Tighnari reassures the bird. When the bird yanks lightly at his ear, he groans out before he shakes the bird off. "Don't make me change my mind."
--
You finally woke up, in a familiar bed, and your bird is sitting on your lap. Reaching out, you give it a reassuring pet that it did the right job, and your dusk bird gladly leans into it, before Tighnari enters the room. The bird starts to spread its wings out, cawing at Tighnari to stay away from you.
"Don't worry, he's someone you can trust." You explain, the bird reluctantly standing down before resting in your lap.
"Why were you down there, _? You're known for helping get people out of a difficult spot." Tighnari asks.
"Well, I have this letter from the adventurer's guild."
"Was this that inexperienced adventurer again?"
"Yes." You elaborate. "I made a ladder out of the vines I could see, and I was making my way up and the vine snapped."
"Bad man! Cowsrd!" Your bird parrots out.
"I'll have to take legal action against that person. On a few occasions, we have had to spend considerable time saving them." He tuts out.
You get up, but Tighnari pushes you down.
"No, you need to rest." Tighnari stops you.
"I can do that at home. Besides, I'm not exactly allowed in the forest after the carving incident."
"I know that was your ex boyfriend." Tighnari sighs out. "I was hoping I could come across you one day to apologise for accusing you, but I never saw you."
"Well, yeah. That letter you delivered that forbade me from being in the forest made it clear." You roll your eyes, crossing your arms.
"I've missed seeing you, you know." Tighnari admits, the bird slowly turning to glare at him. "Uh, what happened with your dusk bird?"
"Well this little guy was rescued by myself. After discovering the bird was going to be put down due to failure to follow orders, I took care of him. Now, he's my companion."
"Why is it so aggressive?" Tighnari asks.
"Well, he's seen the early days of me being banned from being around you." You explain. "He probably doesn't trust you..."
"Well, I'm sure he can learn." Tighnari shrugs his shoulders. "Your bird has a mean peck, you know that?"
--
After you did recover, Tighnari walked you home. His excuse was you needed someone to escort you, but you knew he just wanted to spend more time with you. Your dusk bird seems adamant that Tighnari should see the letters you never sent, making noise by the letters you couldn't burn, and Tighnari promises to take them home.
Upon returning home, he goes through the heartache of seeing how your emotions progressively got worse. He could pinpoint the day your boyfriend became your ex. Your penmanship got worse towards the end when you made your way through half a word, trailing off after realising you weren't allowed to contact him.
Pulling out his paper, Tighnari begins to write an apology letter, as well as inviting you to have dinner with him whenever you are available (of course, allowing your dusk bird to come along).

Do you have any opinions or headcannons (romantic too!) About the dollmaker. He's not very popular unfortunately :(
-reagan
a/n: thoughts! not a lot, really. i won't lie i kinda forgot he existed for a bit but!! he seems really interesting and i have no sense of self-control so i'm sorta inspecting him under a microscope and taking little notes. because of that, i don't have any general headcanons for him yet but here are some romantic ones for you, reagan! sorry it took so long to get to this fhdjfk
the doll maker headcanons.
warnings: gn reader, night terrors, i can't think of anything else uhm yeah.
Tumblr media
He's not at all well-versed in the realm of romance. It's not even something that crosses his mind, to be honest. So, he is certainly surprised when he finds himself developing feelings for you.
You, who never asks him questions about his past. You just accept him as he is, and he finds that to be really strange. Not even one question? I mean, come on, surely you're curious about the glass doll eye, right?
But even if you are, you never cross the boundary. The respect you hold for him is enough to make him pause. If he had any plans on turning you into a doll, then he's a bit more hesitant to enact them now.
He's too confused by you to really stop you from visiting him often, which he finds that he doesn't really have a problem with. It just... makes his doll-making hobby a bit difficult, that's all.
Absolutely does not want you to find out about his human doll collection please for the love of god do not go into the back room. He'll get uncomfortable if you even walk near the back room, doing anything to direct your attention away from it. Just... don't go in there. Even if he's in there, just stay in the front.
He's not particularly insecure about his appearance anymore. He's grown to accept the scars on his face and whatnot, but he can't deny that he gets all happy and flustered whenever you call him handsome.
He likes to admire you. He finds you to be pretty distracting when he's working on, you know... plastic or porcelain dolls. Not that he thinks that's a bad thing, of course. It's... nice, looking up from his work to see you studying one of his many creations with genuine interest.
Definitely seems like the type to want to make a doll of you, if you're comfortable with that.
He's not the best when it comes to taking care of himself, so you always have to remind him of when to take breaks and when to eat.
Very uncomfortable with physical touch when he doesn't realize it's coming, so you need to make sure you get his attention before touching him. Maybe ask for permission as well, depending on the situation.
That situation being his severe insomnia and sleep terrors, of course.
It's not something he's open about. Honestly, he's a bit ashamed of it. He didn't want you to find out about them, but unfortunately, it's not really something he can hide.
You find out about it when you decide to pay him a visit a bit earlier in the morning than usual. Vine had probably gone maybe three days without sleeping before his body basically forced him to sleep.
That situation ended with him putting a pair of scissors to your throat, and a damn near inconsolable Vine as he profusely apologized.
He definitely calls you endearing names in Russian. He defaults and calls you 'doll', but I think he also uses 'my love' and 'sunshine'.
He also definitely seems like the type to give you random compliments and little gifts.
Overall pretty hesitant and awkward at the beginning of a relationship, but he'll definitely gradually become comfortable and open up a bit more the longer you're together. He probably won't talk about his past though, not for a good long while, so even if you were to ask him about it, he'd probably change the topic.

Hi, hope you're doing great! Could I get a matchup?
I'm a 5"9 bisexual demigirl (she/they). I have a preference for masc presenting person's, it doesn't matter what gender.
I'm INFJ, enneagram type 9. I'm the type to pick up a new skill long enough to be good at it and then I'll drop it until like two years later when I have to learn it all over again because I forgot how to do it.
I quote vines at random moments in normal conversation.
Currently, my interests are; history, gardening, music, writing (poetry and general fic), literature and other stuff I can't remember rn.
My main path is in movies tho. I want to write and make my own movies.
I like both cats and dogs but I was bitten by a dog once so I'm scared of any dog that I don't know/trust. I spent most of my life with animals, mostly because I grew up on a farm.
I have insomnia and find it very hard to sleep at night. My favorite movie is 1917. I'll listen to literally any music at least once and if I don't like it I will never listen to it again.
I'm currently obsessed with Arabic poetry. Especially the romantic ones. They always break my heart.
That's all I can think of now, sorry if it's not enough detail.

Your match is...Portugal!
João's heart soars for your creative, poetic spirit. Your artistic character draws him in like a moth to the flame. João could hear you go on for hours and hours about your passions and he too wishes that he could write as beautifully as you do or envision worlds as vividly and easy as you seem to make it. When you told him about your particular desire of creating films this took him aback and he immediately respected your ambition to jump into such a field!
As of late, you and João especially enjoy tending to the garden, soaking in rays of the sun outside of his home. Now, he hopes that this love of gardening will continue to last in you, he thinks lightheartedly. Most fondly, João moves easily with your changes in hobbies, seasons, and likes. It's who is to adapt so well with shifting tides--moreover, he finds this, and most of all you, to be exciting. He might encourage you to stick things out a bit longer, but at heart, João is a supporter to the people he loves, so whatever it is you decide to do with your time and effort, João will most certainly be there too.

Perhaps I will never find a book again that deals with female characters as protagonists the way I want again.
Anyway I try again! The world in a different place of the world. The Hallowed Hunt. The Weald. Makes sense that she'd pull demons riding humans and making up a balance out of the book - that's what I WAS THINKING.
So the girl was given away to be raped by a prince..uh huh. And she called on the Son of Autumn. I guess thats somehow a bit more effective than calling on the Daughter of Spring???? What are the Daughters weapons? The gender determinism in this (violence IS COSMOLOGICALLY a man's job, right, capability) is grating on me more and more.
But it seems strangely coincidental that the leopard also had a demon...or maybe he could see it. Or maybe she just got the one from the Prince.
Ah she thinks the truth can be seen as self-evident. The truth will be hidden of course. Ingrey has a decision to make. He doesn't conceive of it that way as of yet, pretends he's neutral, that the judge can be swayed and he won't have a say??
His duty is to deliver the girl. But he was also the investigator on the site. HELLO
What is it with this author and always hating on the female servants for being frightened, chatty, weak.
Oh damn, so r these animal spirits demons or just animal spirits? And then you don't go to heaven. Well. That sucks. In this land of certain heaven. Oh. Now they say the Wealdings DID worship the gods. Then why forsake your damn soul.
Always the men have to be older and more experienced. And if not, then always Ista must have equal men galore. And always women must prove somehow more capable than expected
Didn't save her, she saved herself, then tried to kill her, almost drowned, she saves him. Lol. But no romance please.....
Ah, she is the son's chosen...oh. she's not. But she MUST be. Ah the animal acts as spiritual channel.
So this animal stuff is wholly different from demons. It is the Son's business. Goes to show that even the Quintarian (ofc) can do genocides etc.
They assume HES saved her. Urgghg
Man. This better turn into a triumph for Ijada
Ok. So vines from all gods....but they are bad....
So why would disorder from a demon allow the animal spirits to lead their humans to a second reality.
It honestly seems that the Wealdings weren't half wrong about taking animal spirits within them. But is it really true that then they can't be taken up by their gods?? Who would do that to themselves???
Why is it that Ingray loses time and control of his body to his wolf when Ijada is perfectly at peace and one with her Leopard lol
I'm starting to warm up to the romance. That's because protagonist is a bit of a failman though normally quite competent, and his refusal to be a tool has stirred. It seems like he might be Ijadas equal and he is spiritually attracted to her (as well)
Yes. Ingray is leashed to some death centaur still...
They call the son ' brother' here. Is the Daughter also Sister?
Starting to like how the protag is falling all over himself discounting himself
Ah. A horse. Wencel is absolutely the man who has Ingray on a leash.
Does Wencel carry a demon on top of his animal?
Does Ingrey not REALISE that Wencel is digging and planting and trying to get rid of them??
Why would Wencel share this knowledge about the animal-god? Ijada might be right to say that he simply wants others to KNOW, smugly delightedly. But clearly he is possessed with a very old animal-spirit, passed down Horseriver kin.
Ah but so is Ingrey's. That's why he saw so much history.
It seems Ijada is also of some deep line, her dower being the genuine site of great genocide
Maybe Wencel yet aims to marry Ijada somehow to come by her dower. But he doesn't need to legally own it to enter.
The Ice Bear is the Daughters? No of course not - the Bastards. Forgot that the Bastard is also the Son's brother lol
Good thing Jokol the prince is himself deeply in love. He will surely want to help Ingrey. 'yep I love someone- she beat a prince to death bc he wwas trying to rape her at the time.' Lol
Oh. To be so an intimidating man as to be able to intimidate your very own master.
He did pretty well teling Hetwar and the Prince off. Appealing to higher ends, the gods, practical considerations, personal revenge (his).
The author is a woman, and I am sure it is nice j( I thought so) to inhabit the freedom's and greater powers and particular problems of patriarchy as a man. An insanely gifted man, always, of course. Bit i cannot inhabit it fully, when there is always such a tempting female character around to inhabit instead - not as object of pursuit, affections, admiration. But as subject....
I like how Ingrey is decidedly different from Ista and Cazaril - more doubtful.
Ah. The king was already immortal and bound. So that is who Wencel is.
Really describing some serious genocidal maniacry here. Darthacans were pretty crazy about colonising the Weald. I don't believe for a second that the Weald was so bad.
Ah right. The problem of empire. One sets boundaries to the land where one's people dwells. Then they are picked at by the other people, the enemy now. You campaign against them, conquer, set boundaries further in, but now these must be defended, and are picked at. And aren't you justified? Better to genocide the lot, make it all empire in one, for peace. For peace!
Right.
Yes well - Wencel the ancient animal spirit is telling them because he must emotionally tell them.
OH! So the Son comes to Ingrey but not to Ijada???
Yep there you go. They split animal from human spirit after death. No problemo. The Darthacans were idiots
So why does HE command the animal spirits. Anywayyyy. Ah because Ijada needs to be grateful to him. For no reason
Jeeze she's laying out magical possibilities and then when you think you've pinned it down she extends those possibilities AGAIN
If Ingrey is the Wencel Old Weald Prince heir then why would Wencel throw him away like that. I guess there must be other options. A younger Scion somewhere
So Ingrey or Wencel has to become King in order to break the spell and restore the old Weald. Doesn't make much sense that Horseriver king never headed a cultural campaign, and never aimed for the kingship.
The book will end as such: they will kill Wencel and in that moment call his melted hodgepodge of a soul out and into the Son's hunt. But not before Ingrey becomes king (breaking the spell and making such a thing possible). All in the same moment
Wouldn't it be great to be saved by a good, funny, wnd wonderful godblessed woman and be able to offer service and know that you were contributing to good with absolute certainty on a deeply personal level as well? Now that would be a good life. Every day a day of gratitude and friendship
This was the FIRST time he could have stolen the kingship back???
'The terrible charisma of kings... men crept close, longing to bask in it, for something more than material reward. The lure of heroism, the benediction of action, might have only death for its prize, and yet men flocked to the king's banner. The seductive promise of perfection of self in service to this high bright-seeming thing?'
Hah
Aha. The sons got elected before the fatherss died.
So .... They did a big spell that would have made the warriors immortal but only the king was in it yet. The gods did not come to help them and let them be slaughtered by Audar. (Seeing how much they meddle to resolve sticky supernatural situations - why can't they goddamn well meddle in politics some more). The culture was destroyed and colonised. They struggled free politically but very like their conquerers now. The king kept going and going, the warriors killed there could not reach the gods, and their souls could not be taken up anyway because of the animals. The king was so upset by the gods betrayal that he kept the place closed from the gods. Audar must have known and deliberately genocided 4000 not just lives but also eternities. The king tried to break the spell, because it was torment, and he could not get back the Old Weald. But he needed the Hallowed Kingship and the Banner woman and the Shaman to cut the loop of the spell. But how in the hell did that bit of Hallowed Kingship even end up in the current King? If the old Bannerman never made it out of the slaughter?
And what was up with that heart on the banner??? Why half half? What ???
The magic in this was elaborate and elaborately elaborated and in the beginning the mysteries too spoken and in the end the mysteries not enough explained.

The sun rises on the horizon, casting light all over Olympus, waking the gods in slumber, reminding them of the work they need to do. However, you wanted to fight the sun for rising so early. The rays piercing through the depths of the ocean, just enough to peek through the windows of your room.
You stir under the covers, not wanting to get up. The light blinding your closed eyes, preventing you from going back to sleep. You were honestly hoping you won't wake up the next day. You didn't want to wake up in agony knowing there's nothing to wake up to. You still picture his crescent eyes when he smiles, his laugh that echoes in your ears as if he is there with you. His hands that felt soft and warm left a mark on your skin, reminding you of how he held you in his arms.
Every night you see him in your dreams— for a while at least. Your heart was hurt, it wanted to remind you of all the things you could've done, but it knew that if you kept dreaming about him, you would have died grieving years ago.
A loud knock on your door suddenly erupted, a groan escaped your lips. You rolled to the other side trying to bury your head under the covers to drown out the sound. Then, your door busted open, making you sit up in surprise.
"What the fuck," you furrowed your brows, watching your father fix the dislocated door hinge.
"Don't use such language on me, young lady," he leans his trident beside the door. "You have a very important schedule to meet your suitors today."
Your eyes widen, "Suitors?!" You shrieked, your father's face contorts.
“Father, I think this has gone long enough for you to know that I am not interested.” he let out a sigh. He’s well aware of that.
"Look, I understand, but I will not have you sulk for the rest of your life just because that good-for-nothing son of Athena died," your blood boiled at his words.
"No father, I don’t think you do understand," You said with resentment.
You tried to bury the tears back down, not wanting to cry in front of your father. The pent up anger made you want to lash out like what he said was the last straw but your pride was much stronger.
"It's rude to keep them in line, they've travelled far just to get here, so I suggest you make yourself presentable and be there as soon as possible," his last words before shutting your door closed behind him.
The knick-knacks on your shelf shook as your father slammed the door shut. He wasn't mad, he was just….strict, as your father and god of the sea, you are under his territory thus, giving you no choice but to follow him.
You laid back on your bed, pulling the covers, letting out a muffled scream into the blanket. Only kids get treated like this, he acts like you aren't already a hundred years old.
You didn't want to meet another batch of mermen with plastic smiles and fake personalities. They were only after you because of your title, daughter of Poseidon, god of the sea, with a legacy that soon passes unto you. You had sisters and brothers, you didn't understand why it had to be you, but Poseidon himself already had it all planned.
You swam near the big stadium-like structure, with large pillars that were carved so intricately in quartz.  The end of the stadium planted Poseidon's throne where he sat so elegantly. You hid behind the pillars, spotting the men that were seated to the side, waiting for your arrival, but you already decided you weren't going to attend. Not this time.
You took the longest route to Olympus, making sure no one spots you, escaping the suffocating vast seas that used to be called home.
=
"You know one day I could get killed by your dad," Wooyoung set the teacups filled with hot liquid on the dining table where you sat.
It's been a while since you set foot on land, you didn't miss it, the painful after-effects of walking for too long did make you wonder how land dwellers live.
"He won't since I made him promise it," your cheeky smile made him roll his eyes.
"But won't he easily find you here?"
"He will but he couldn't be bothered to travel all the way here," you took a sip from the cup, hot liquid running down your throat.
"I'll be home by sundown, can't have him wash Olympus just to find me," you force out a laugh, wooyoung giving you a sympathetic look.
He knows you are still mourning. Deep inside you are still in pain, but you try to keep it hidden.
"You know, it's been years and he is still bringing me these men I barely even know and he wants me to pick one to marry?" You planted your forehead on the table, hiding your face in frustration. "It's getting annoying." After those annoying years of having to pretend you are ok and just sitting pretty in front of dozens of merpeople, making yourself look like a prize in a glass box waiting for a winner to take you home.
But of course, it's still your choice and you chose to be with none of them.
"Were any of them attractive at least?" You hear the familiar charming voice. You look up to see Wooyoung's mother— aphrodite— adorned in her usual attire, laced with gold sequences, a headpiece in gold, and jewellery that complimented her skin.
You shook your head as you gave her a soft smile, "They always have this forced appearance to look strong and the wide creepy smiles that they think will help attract me to them," she listens to your rant, pouting slightly, "What a shame, you know your father's taste was never that good," she winked. You knew she was talking about your mother, whom you didn't know that well since she is always focusing on your brothers.
"I thought you went out early," Wooyoung questioned. Aphrodite cupped her son's cheeks, kissing the top of his nose.
"I just forgot something dear," you giggled at her ways of babying her son. Fixing his hair and touching up the light makeup he puts on every day. You can't deny how attractive Wooyoung is, you could see the features that he inherited from his mother.
"Poseidon won't stop what he is doing though, I suggest you do as his wishes y/n, or you'll face his consequences," strips of memory to that day cross your mind again. It was truly painful to recall, it made your heart clenched and you wanted to scream your head off.
"Look, whatever it is you want to do, just make sure it isn't something stupid," Wooyoung held your hand in his, rubbing your skin with his thumb. You remembered the last stupid thing you did.
You were grateful to have met someone like Wooyoung, he has always been there for you. Even though your father had been skeptical of him for so long, he still let you be around him.
But you can't promise him this time because another stupid idea just popped up in your head.
=
"Are you kidding y/n? Didn't we just talk about this?" Wooyoung follows you from behind as you walk through the forest. The last time you were here was the day your world fell apart.
You swore to not cross paths where it reminded you of him but right now, it is important.
"Look, demigods are bound to be reincarnated, there's a chance I could see him again," you explained, stepping on sticks and pebbles, slashing through vines and large leaves with your bronze dagger. Mingi wasn't like you or wooyoung who had both parents that are gods. Like Athena, he was created by her from her mind. He wasn't born….normal.
"And then what? What will you do if you see him?"
In all honesty, you didn't plan that far, all you thought of was to meet mingi in the mortal world. Wooyoung's concern for you just became worse when the silence answers his question. You have no plan, you just wanted to see mingi again.
You ignored Wooyoung's continuous nagging until you reached your destination. The tree that grew sweet magical berries that can only be found deep in the forests of Olympus. The berry that could help the gods enter the mortal realm.
"Y/n…." Worry settles in, Wooyoung knows the side effects of these berries. You weren't as powerful as your parents who were able to visit the mortal realm on your own, you needed help and you were certainly not gonna ask your father.
"I'll be fine," you picked a few handfuls of berries and stuffed them in your bag, "Atlantis won't be that far, If I need to, I’ll just come back." You smiled at Wooyoung.
"I leave tomorrow."
"What about your dad? Won't he get mad?" You two made your way back out of the forest, taking the path of where you came from.
"I just told him I'm sleeping at your place for a while," Wooyoung freezes in place. As expected of his role as your best friend, he's responsible for covering you up.
"You owe me big time."
=
Arriving at the mortal realm, alone and slightly scared. But the sight of what seemed to be the city made you giddy all of the sudden.
You walked around exploring the beautiful structures of the city. Tall buildings surrounding the area, billboards, and giant screens with lights and flashing colours. You were overwhelmed at first but it was quite interesting. It was nothing like you have seen before.
There were tons of people who wore casual attire, some wore suits as they travelled to work. Big buses and cars drove by in the streets— you almost got run over by one, not knowing the purpose of the blinking traffic light; the horrendous sound of the car horn almost did make your ears bleed.
Settling down on one of the park benches, you took a break from walking. The sandals you brought weren't doing any justice for your feet.
Your surroundings were peaceful, pink flowers scattered across the concrete, different coloured leaves decorating the trees, getting ready for the fall season. Suddenly, you felt a gust of wind. The eerie grey smoke rising in front of you. Chills running up your spine, your mind having a clear idea of where it's coming from.
A cold mischievous laugh emitted from within, your initial reaction was to pull out the dagger from your side, clutching the handle tight until your knuckles turned white.
"Relax, it's me," the same annoying voice you dreaded hearing.
"Ryujin, what are you doing here?" You scowled. She was bad news— the spirit of mischief lives within her, wherever she goes, chaos follows.
"Hmm, are you not happy to see me?" Her Cheshire cat-like smile plastered onto her face as she took a seat beside you, crossing her leg on top of the other. Her hair was shorter than the last time you saw her, eyes still full of mischief.
"I was hoping to not see you again after the incident 20 years ago," you spat, hatred lacing your words.
"Right, the poor boy, died so soon," her face turned into a sad look before smiling once again.
Ryujin was the main cause of his death. Your father just made it happen. Leading Mingi to that place in the forest where she knew your father was there, he hated Athena's children, he wouldn't hesitate to kill one in sight.
You wished there was a way to go back in time to stop Ryujin from leading Mingi to his inevitable death. But as expected, she felt no shame or guilt whatsoever.
"What is it that you plan anyway, there is a reason for you to come here, right?"
You kept your mouth closed, not wanting to possibly give your plan away for the spirit of mischief to take its course. And so, you kept quiet. Ryujin clicked her tongue in annoyance. She wished she could read minds, but that's her brother's power.
"Fine, keep it to yourself," she stood up, grumbling something under her breath, "Just so you know, I am not leaving without having a bit of fun," another gust of wind blowing in your direction leaves swirling in a circle on the concrete just below her feet, the puff of smoke covering her figure as she disappeared.
Your mind was in shambles. Usually, she would try and pressure you into answering but she brushed it off so soon.
You let out the breath you didn't know you were holding, the weight suddenly leaving your chest. Sometimes the presence of Ryujin gives you this uneasy feeling, but it was better than getting a visit from her brother. He is ten times worse.
=
You finally adapted to the mortal world, got a place to stay all by yourself. There were obstacles on the way but you got over them easily.
You lay quietly on the bed, and to be honest, it was a bit uncomfortable. The covers are placed over you up to your neck. You stared at the ceiling, counting rams in hopes of helping you fall asleep. And on your 1117th ram, your eyes finally grew heavy.
But to your dismay, your throat decides that it was parched. You sat up from your bed, wearing your slippers, and made your way to the kitchen. Grabbing a glass and filling it up with water, but before you could take a sip, you saw a figure on your couch.
You dropped the glass, shattering across the floor. The figure whipped his head around and you couldn't believe your eyes. Is this a dream? You must be dreaming… You might have even gone mad.
"Mingi?" You stuttered. You haven't called out that name in so long.
"Y/n, be careful you'll hurt yourself," he stood from the couch, making his way to you. You took a few steps back. Mingi's face shows a look of confusion.
He stepped on the glass unfazed by it. Did he not feel that? Of course, this is a dream, he's not real.
"What's wrong?" His arms out to reach for you.
"N-no, I'm dreaming, this can't be—" you shook your head, tears pricking your eyes. You felt warm hands cup your face, it was so real, your knees so close to giving out.
"What do you mean?" His eyes were the same shade of brown. His hair is styled the same way he always has it in.
"You're real?" Your voice croaked, mingi chuckled. The same smile you saw years ago, but as expected, his face started to fade. This is definitely a dream. It was impossible to have mingi physically there, you saw him….die, right in front of your eyes.
"Of course I'm real," his voice was soft, comforting even. You were really hearing his voice, this is his voice. He pressed his forehead against you, kissing the top of your nose promptly.
At this point, you couldn't stop the tears from falling. You sobbed making mingi pull away and look at you with worry in his eyes.
"Please don't leave me again," you pleaded. You wished it was real, your chest grew even tighter. What kind of cruel punishment is this?
"Why would I leave?" He wiped the tear on your cheek. "I'll always be here," he said in reassurance as he pulled you in his embrace. You missed it so much—you missed him so much. The same warmth was still there, but it eventually started to feel cold. Like Hades was paying a visit to take him back to the underworld.
You finally got to see him again, even if it was only a dream, it really felt like he was there, body and soul present. You didn't want to let him go, there's no way you are losing him again.
His image starts to fade, you start to feel the emptiness again. His hold on your body began to feel like nothing, it was cold like ice. You tried to grip his shirt, keeping him from disappearing. You spewed out pleas, begging him to stay. At Least for a little longer.
But then you woke up, hot liquid running down your face.
You were crying, something you haven't done in a long while. Slapping your cheeks, making sure you were really awake.
"Come one y/n, it was just a dream," you said to yourself out loud.
20 years and you thought you were over him. But those agonizing years were torturous. Everything seemed to remind you of him. Wooyoung almost didn't see you for 18 years until you finally decided to visit him. You wouldn't know what to do if wooyoung was never in your life, you might as well have been asleep for the rest of your life.
=
The clamshell that sat on your bedside table glowed. It was a magic shell that sends messages back and forth in writing. You gave one to Wooyoung so you could communicate from a distance.
"Did you find him?" The letters glowed as they appeared.
"Not yet." you wrote back, watching the writings disappear indicating that he is reading it.
"Time is ticking y/n." Anxiety washes over you again. Soon the berries won't be enough to hold you there and you'll be needing to come back home.
"Y/n, you there?" A voice startled you, making you almost drop the shell. It would be bad if you did, it was a fragile thing, you could risk shattering it and won't have anything else to communicate with.
"In here!" You called out, quickly hiding the shell in the dresser.
"I brought lunch," mina smiled, holding up a paper bag filled with takeout.
The day you moved in, still exploring the apartment that you rented, you heard a knock on your door.
You peeked through the peephole. A woman stood in front of the door patiently, short brown hair— half of it tied into a ponytail— dressed in a leather jacket and denim pants. She looked about 20, maybe 21 but she doesn't look older than 25.
You almost pulled out your dagger but resisted, remembering that they are mortals and you could get in trouble. You slowly twisted the doorknob open, opening it slightly so your body is visible but not the room.
"Hi, I'm mina!" She said in a bubbly tone. Her energy made you slightly overwhelmed. "I'm your neighbour, just next door." She pointed to the apartment beside yours.
You nodded, not knowing what to reply. "Have you finished unpacking?" You tilted your head in confusion. "Do you need help with boxes or anything?"
You looked back in your apartment, body moving aside just enough for Mina to have a clear view.
"Did you not bring any stuff?"  You shook your head.
"I only brought a satchel," you gripped the strap that hung across your body. She gazes at the small bag attached to your body.
"Well, it looks like you need help settling in, why don't I cook dinner for you? You don't seem to have any pots or pans or food either." Your stomach grumbled at the mere mention of food.
Mina giggled, making you heat up in embarrassment. "I'll take that as a yes."
Since then Mina has been your source of food and company. She's been a great companion for the past few days. You told Wooyoung all about her and he just replied coldly. The thought of your best friend getting jealous of your new mortal friend made you laugh.
"So, I just started my 3rd year of college, and honestly, I am tired of it— I've been thinking of dropping out but then my mom might whoop my ass…"  Mina rants while you sit there, zoned out watching the floor like it's the most interesting thing in the world.
"Earth to y/n," mina waves her hand in front of you, snapping you out of your daze.
"Oh sorry, What were you saying?" The girl pouts, eventually brushing it off to discuss other things.
"Oh right, so I met this guy on campus and he is like, really cute. He is super tall and like, maybe a bit built..." You listened to her attentively but still in the back of your mind you couldn't help but discuss your plans on how to find mingi to yourself.
"Should I ask him out?" You blinked— you weren't paying attention again.
"I'm sorry?"
"The guy I met on campus on my first day, should I ask for his number?"
"Oh totally, you should," you said plainly, you feel really bad for not paying attention but you couldn’t help it when your mind is being occupied with something else. Mina just brushed it off, not noticing your spaced-out expression. She continued rambling while your mind wandered.
Time was running out, you needed a plan.
=
"Remind me why I am on your college campus again?" You said, mina dragging you by the arm. She woke you up at an ungodly hour just to travel early to her college campus. Few students were walking around campus, on their way to their scheduled class.
"Look, I barely have friends, also do you go to college? You look to be around my age," your eyes widen. Atlantis doesn't have schools, you had to travel to Olympus just to make it to class, but you only had to go until you turned 18. And you are immortal, you haven't been to school for a hundred years.
"I graduated," you just said. Hoping she won't ask further questions.
"Oh so you're older than me then," you nodded. She stopped to sit by a tree in the campus garden, patting the grass beside you. You sat beside her, leaning on the tree.
"I don't have class 'till after lunch, we can grab something to eat before you can go back to your apartment," she took out her textbook and paper to finish what she didn't the day before.
"Sorry for dragging you, You are always locked up in your apartment so I thought why not take you here with me," you were planning on exploring more of the city, just to take note of the possible routes to get around.
"Won't I get in trouble? I don't go here."
"You are fine, besides, it's an open college, anyone can visit here," she explains as she gets back to her work.
Your eyes wandered off somewhere else, spotting the students who were early, sitting on the grass as they got some sleep under the trees. Some were reading books and some were having their breakfast.
It makes you sleepy after a while, deciding to lean your head against the tree, closing your eyes for a brief moment.
A pair of shoes tapping against the grass, crunching the leaves on the way. You didn't bother to open your eyes so you just stayed and listened. Must be one of mina's friends as you hear her voice ushering for them to sit.
They sat on the other side of the tree beside mina, talking about classes and homework but something about that voice tingles your brain. The familiar deep husky voice made your heart ache. You were confused as to why you were reacting that way.
Soon the person left and you were forced to open your eyes when mina shook your shoulder abruptly.
"Guess who just gave me their number," she said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Who?"
"The hot campus boy," she squealed, waving the paper in her hand. "His name is mingi and it's kinda cute and his voice was deep, not that deep, but like...deep."
Your eyes widen, "mingi?" She nodded. You felt like your world stopped spinning. Your mind is in shambles, processing the information. Your ears deafened the sounds around you, muffling mina's continuous babblings.
You thanked the gods that he's here, but then reality hit. He doesn't know you for he is only a reincarnation of the mingi you knew. He is no longer the son of Athena, he is just human.
=
"Are you sure it's the mingi?" Wooyoung's message appears from the clamshell. You lay on your bed, a book on your lap as you were reading just a while ago.
"Yes, Mina's description fits so perfectly," you bit your lip, anxiously fidgeting with your necklace. What if it wasn't him? You can't confirm that it really is him, he has no memory of his past life.
"Ok, so what are you gonna do now? You found him, what's the next step?" You mentally slapped yourself for being unprepared. You wanted to see him again, that was your main goal, and now that you know he's here, you have no reason to stay.
You want to be with him but it's impossible, you are immortal, he'll age while you stay young. Well, nothing much was changed when he was a demigod, but he had the opportunity to become immortal. It's not like there is some way a mortal can become immortal.
…..or is there.
"I'm coming back," the writing disappeared letter by letter as wooyoung's message appeared right after.
"Really? So that's it?"
You shook your head as if he could see you. "I have a plan"
"Oh no," wooyoung thought. Letting out a deep sigh. "She's gonna get into more trouble isn't she?" Wooyoung wished that somehow something would knock some sense into you.
=
"Y/n!"
"Mina, hey," she threw herself at you, engulfing you in a tight hug.
"I'm gonna miss you," she squeezed around your neck, restricting your airflow.
"Mina," you patted her back, making her apologize with a sheepish grin, "I'll be back soon though, you don't have to miss me too much."
"I know— wait, are you free right now? I was wondering if you wanna go eat before you leave," you thought for a second. Though it isn't difficult to travel back to Olympus, you're unfortunately on your last berry.
"Sure," you hoped it'll last you for another few hours.
Arriving at a restaurant with mina, ordering food as soon as you sat down. Your eyes wandered around. The restaurant was busy, waiters quickly passing around, trying to get to the customer's table as soon as possible.
"Finally," Mina says, standing up on her seat. You turned your head to the person she was referring to.
"Sorry I'm late, I got stuck in traffic."
"I invited mingi, I hope you don't mind y/n," Mina says with a sorry smile.
"I don't mind at all." That unsettling feeling soon washes over you, seeing mingi stand in front of you, face to face. You find it weird to see him like this like he didn't die. He looks like the same mingi years ago, it just felt….different.
You took your seats again, Mina helping mingi order his food. The three of you waited for your orders, chatting about anything that comes to mind. Mina talking about classes and homework that is due and mingi asking if any of you were free to a party this weekend.
Of course, you can't go.
"So, Where are you from y/n?" He asks you. His voice sounded so natural to you but at the same time, it felt foreign, like you just heard of it now. Technically you did but, the way demigod reincarnations work is they get reborn the same. Meaning they'll look the same, speak the same, and their personalities are most likely the same. Nothing will change once they get reborn— except, they won't remember anything from their past life.
"Atlantis," you blurted out, panic rushing through you. You can see the confusion in their faces.
"Like, the lost city of Atlantis?" Mortals, what are they teaching them?
"I mean Atlanta," you corrected yourself, body stiff as stone.
"America? That's far, do you have a flight?" Mina intervened. You didn't even know where that was, you just so happened to remember that book you read before coming here and the main character lived in a place called Atlanta.
"Uh yeah, sure," you felt cold sweat trickling down the back of your neck. You just hope they won't ask any more questions.
You let out a sigh of relief as the two of them get back to chatting with each other.
Finally, the food arrived and the sooner you finished the sooner you got to go home. And with your last berry, you popped it in your mouth after the meal.
Leaving the restaurant with mina and mingi you were finally able to go back to Olympus.
As you are ready to part ways, Mina engulfs you in a tight hug, cutting off your airflow. "Mina, you're squishing me," you said in a choked out voice. "Be quick ok," she gives you a final hug before walking in the other direction.
You waited until the coast was clear and hid somewhere secluded.
=
You arrived safely and with just a minute to spare. You were gonna go to wooyoung's place first before going back to Atlantis when you saw a lightning strike. A gust of moist air blows your way, a growling thunder piercing through your ears. Your mind immediately assumed that it was Zeus but when the clouds cleared you saw your father, sitting on a cloud with his trident on his lap.
"Father," you said, greeting him with a bow. Though he didn't look pleased with seeing you at the gates of Olympus, he still gave your hair a ruffle.
"You have me worried sick y/n, where were you?"
You expected yelling, hearing these words and this kind of tone shocked you. Especially even after telling him that you were staying at wooyoung's but still found you at the gates
"Look, I know I may have gone too far— with...you know, the marriage," he admits. Avoiding eye contact with you as much as possible. Not that it wasn't sincere, he just wasn't used to admitting he was wrong. But he loves you dearly and he'd do anything for you.
"It's ok, I actually forgot those happened." there was an awkward silence. Then, Poseidon left, after informing you of what time dinner was gonna be.
You finally arrived at your best friend's house and instead of a worried wooyoung, you were met with a furious wooyoung.
"I knew this was a bad idea, your father almost killed me!" He said. You rolled your eyes at the exaggeration.
"Relax wooyoung, nothing happened," you placed your bag onto his bed, taking out the souvenirs you got.
"Did he say anything to you? You are still alive so I'm guessing you haven't met yet?"
"I met him at the gates and he said he was worried." Thinking back to that moment made you shiver, it's like someone replaced your dad with someone completely different.
"Huh, well ok then— Ooh what are these," he was quick to change the topic as his curiosity fills in. Wooyoung takes the bag of candies you brought, ripping it open to take one of the wrappers with the sugary treats inside. You chuckled, watching wooyoung chew on the candy.
He notices your gaze stuck on the floor while you get lost in your own thoughts.
"Hey, did something else happen there?"
You snap back into reality, taking a while to process what wooyoung just said. You shook your head in response.
"Actually, is there a way to stay there without the berries?"
He stares at you for a moment, he honestly thought you were done and you weren't going back there. It's dangerous for you since you are not as strong as your father. Even with something more efficient than a magical fruit, you are bound to get in trouble.
"My mom has a necklace," wooyoung says, he didn't want to say it but he knew how important this is to you. Eventually you'll stop, knowing mortals and gods cannot stay together forever.
"She used to make me wear it when she let me go to the mortal world with her."
"Can I borrow it?"
=
"Y/n!" Mina ran to you with open arms, "I missed you so much," you giggled at your friend.
"I've only been gone for a week."
"A week too long," she pouted.
She takes your hand in hers, pulling you to whatever direction. You arrived at the airport, making it look like you got here by plane. Passing security check out and exiting the building.
"You still remember mingi right?" She asks.
"Of course, I left for a week, it doesn't mean I forgot anything that's here," she grinned.
"Why, what happened?" You asked, hiding the hint of fear in your voice.
"Oh nothing," she sing-song, trying to stop her lips from smiling too much.
You both stopped at the front of the main entrance, waiting for you-don't-know-who. Until a car stops in front of you. Mingi came to pick you two up, giving you a ride to your apartment.
"So, what's it like in your hometown," she asks, taking a bite of her food.
"Uh, It's….you know —uh…. there's trees and buildings."
Mina nodded slowly as she continued eating her food.
After you two finished eating, Mina left to finish her college work— probably with mingi.
You didn't want to think the worst but considering mina's behavior around mingi, you couldn't stop the thoughts running around your mind.
You gripped the pendant that was tied around your neck. It's pearly white color glowing due to the light reflecting on it. Its sharp edges indicate that it was shattered into parts.
The other half is with mingi.
Atleast, when he was still with you. It symbolizes your promise to always be together and be there for each other.
But fate just wasn't on your side. And it still isn't.
As you walked out of your apartment to get some fresh air, you spotted the two by the parking lot. Their faces are inches away from each other.
You didn't know why but you felt your heart sink. Tears welling in your eyes. You reminded yourself that this mingi isn't the same mingi that promised to be with you. He wasn't the same mingi that helped you run away from home whenever your parents were arguing again.
That gave you a reality check, you can't be with him anymore. You have to let him go.
Your gaze still stuck on the two, not noticing the sudden appearance of another spirit.
This time, it made you feel chills.
"Keeho," you said in a whisper. You didn't bother to look in his direction.
"Oh, I'm glad you recognize me," he said, a mischievous smile growing on his lips.
"Ryujin would have loved to see this, after all, this was her plan." You curled your fist into a ball, tight enough until your nails dug into your skin.
"Why?" You managed to let out. You didn't want this to affect you but it does. After everything you did, it all didn't matter in the end.
"I don't know, ask ryujin. I'm just here to relay a message."
Keeho pushed himself off the wall that he was leaning on and came over to you.
"Don't try to bring back something that was meant to be taken away, it'll come back to bite you in the ass," he whispered against your ear, sending chills down your spine.
Then he left, disappearing into the mist again.
Even though you just came back, you were already itching to leave. Packing your bag and locking the apartment. Giving the keys to the landlord.
Mina notices you in a hurry to leave, running after you to catch you.
"Y/n! Where are you going?" She grabs your wrist making you stop. You didn't turn around, you stayed rooted to the ground. Swallowing the thick lump in your throat before speaking.
"I'm sorry Mina," you pulled your wrist away from her and left. You felt guilty, she was your only friend and she felt betrayed. You left without an explanation.
=
"Y/n? You're here, did something happen?" Wooyoung read your expression.
You shook your head, clearing your thoughts as you replaced the sad look with a small smile.
"I'm great, I just didn't like the whole vibe there," you lied.
You removed the ruby crystal around your neck giving it to wooyoung, muttering a thanks. Alongside you removed the pendant that was tucked under your shirt. Wooyoung was shocked as you never took it off and you swore you never would.
You tucked the necklace into your pocket, taking a mental note to put it away when you get home.
Although you didn't accomplish your original mission, you did realize that it's always good to let go of something. Never let anything or anyone tie you down. You are still heartbroken, but you are sure you could get over it soon.
Of course, the siblings that stared at you through the window, mischievous smiles on their faces, will not let you live just yet.

Falling (Andre Harris x Female Reader)
I love this man 😍😍😍. Can you tell? DionysusSlytherin requested.
Andre needed to write a new song but he didn't have a muse. He did not have any inspiration to speak of. He was semi-relieved to see his wrist tattoo has faded a bit. 'oh no, I'm not a performer. Just my sister.' When he found his soulmate he was shocked to find that she had a different tattoo. He played it cool and made it where she went to Hollywood Arts. But she ran away with Beck a few months back and Andre had to help his friend Jade. Jade was the only one who knew that Tori was his soulmate. But Beck new he was Jade's soulmate and he fell out of love with Jade. (Recap of the last chapter). Anyway, Andre has a problem, he had no inspiration. Jade now follows a golden retriever vine quoter around and seems to be the happiest she's been in months, he wants that happiness. He took a breath and shook his head. He didn't need someone else to make him happy but hell could he use someone to give him a boost. He let out a sigh and sat against a wall in the black box theater. He tied his hair up to keep it out of his face.
Sikowitz waltz in barefoot. He turned about and jumped back.
"When did you get there?" Sikowitz shouted.
"Been here Sikowitz." Andre responded.
"Go somewhere else and scare people I have to prepare a play!" Sikowitz talked in a voice not loud enough to be yelling bit louder than anyone's normal speaking voice.
So Andre left. He wondered around until he ended up at the Library with Jade.
"What do I write about Jade?" Andre has been at this all day and needs to turn in a song by the end of the week.
"How about your arm?" Jade suggested with a smirk.
"Very funny Jade." Andre rolled his eyes.
"Don't be rude Andre, have you even looked at it recently? You could find your muse that way." Jade scoffed.
Andre shook his head.
"Jade everyone knows in order to find a new soulmate I must first fall out of love with my old one. And I can't just fall out of love with Tori. She's wonderful. She's sweet and sh-"
Jade cut in "Didn't she make Cat cry again the other day?"
"Well she might, uh, yeah she did."
"Did she or did she not steal Cat's soulmate after she fell out of love with him?" Jade put her elbows on the table.
"Oh yeah I forgot about that."
"Did she or did she not steal my soulmate from me?"
"Well I don't think tha-" Andre stopped and his wide eyes met Jade's glaring ones. She snatched Andre's hand and looked at his wrist. It was barely visible but it was there. Jade shook her head.
"Why don't we go see Tori?" She asked.
"What?" Andre's already wide eyes went wider. "I think that is a horrible idea." He was completely against this idea. Jade however gave zero shits and new what he needed. She gripped his upper arm and tugged him out of the library and across school towards Tori's locker. Andre tried to tug out of Jade's grip but she had a vice grip on him. When Tori came into view Andre used all his body weight and threw himself and Jade into the janitor's closet. Jade pushed Andre into a trashcan and locked him in. Andre looked through the small window on the door and tried to figure out what she was doing. He could see Jade talking to Tori. He could see Beck coming out of nowhere to yell? At Jade. Was he yelling? Andre couldn't tell but he sure as hell looked mad. Behind the argument stood a woman trying to get by to her locker. Anytime the mysterious stranger tried to get by one of the three amigos accidentally stepped in her way. It looked like she tried to speak up but Tori turned and said something to her. Judging by the look on the girl's face it wasn't nice. Her eyebrows drew close together. Her eyes looked to her feet and her lips pursed together. Jade grabbed the mystery woman's arm and snapped her neck to look at the closet. Jade began to drag the woman to the closet and Andre sank further into the trashcan. He pushed himself away from the door. As Jade's steps became audible through the door, Andre felt his hands sweat. Looking down he was surprised to see a new phrase on his wrist. 'No Thank you'. No it couldn't be. Do it really take Andre to see Tori do just one action out of bounds of what he was comfortable with? She was hella mean to Cat and that cute girl.
The door opened and Jade shoved the (h/c) girl inside. Andre had zoned out and could just now hear the arguing that was going on between Jade, Beck, and Tori. Jade slammed the door and locked it once again. Silence. Seconds past. Minutes past. Andre realizes that the woman in front of him must be confused at why she was dragged into anything, to be honest Andre was curious too, and why he was in a trashcan.
"Hey I'm Andre." He reached out to her from his hiding spot. The girl hid her hands in the sleeves of her Hollywood Arts hoodie and used them to cover her face.
"I'm (y/n)." She mumbled through her hands. Andre thought it was kinda cute that she hid her hands in her sleeves. What he didn't like was how she was treated by the people outside.
"Hey I just wanna say that I'm sorry for those guys out there, and that you got dragged into this." Andre finally got out of the trashcan and walked towards the door. The girl turned towards the door. Andre felt his skin crawl. As he looked towards the source he let out a gasp. 'I'm (Y/N)' was fresh on his wrist.
"You-you are my thing!" Andre
"Um," she turned to him and glanced at her wrist, "Yeah I am Andre." A small smile appeared on her face while a grin was on Andre's.

you could not cook to save your life
any attempt at cooking would result in certain failure in the best case scenario and 5.4 magnitude earthquake damage in the worst
sure, you could make edible pasta and if you really put your best efforts into it, acceptable omelette too
but anything past that level of complexity was simply out of your league, a lost cause to put it mildly
don't you even think about making a cake, that shit's dangerous
as they say: as above so below
when you landed in Hell and found yourself joining the Happy Hotel soon after, you came to find out your culinary skills had not magically improved
which is quite ironic since Charlie had made you head chef of the hotel
the string of curses which had left your lips upon hearing the news had been legendary, even for Hell
you adored the demon princess with your whole heart (or whatever was left of it anyway), bUT REALLY CHARLIE? YOU DO NOT GIVE A GUN TO A CHILD AND EXPECT CASUALTIES NOT TO HAPPEN
at this point you were certain she was subconsciously auto-sabotaging
either way, you didn't have the heart to tell her no, so you decided to put your heart and soul into trying to learn how to properly cook, which didn't turn out to be the ideal choice of words since you were in Hell and your soul was probably rotten to the core
at least, nobody could say you hadn't tried your damn best
and hey! some days your cooking hadn't even been completely sickening
you decided to stick to easy, “safe” dishes though, you know, just to be sure
so pasta and eggs were definitely a thing
a constant and repetitive thing to be precise
you were trying your best, okay? nobody in your place with your limited set of skills would have taken the job, but you did and you deserved recognition for that feat alone
or a fucking donkey hat for your skyrocketing dumbness levels
things were not so bad at first
both Charlie and Vaggie were very supportive, each one of them in their own way - even though you had totally seen Charlie trying to swallow pure unadulterated fear that one time you had announced you wanted to try to cook something more elaborate
Angel Dust on the other hand... hadn't been as considerate as to lie to your face about what he thought of your cooking
"fuck me doll, this shit's disgusting"
*insert the I don't have friends they disappoint me vine here*
Vaggie had proceeded to give Angel quite the earful while Charlie tried her best to cheer you up
you went full hermit mode on them for two days after that
you were proud of yourself, handling criticism so well
anyway, the cycle kept repeating, with the only difference that most days Angel would grab something to eat outside of the hotel and join you during meals only to blankly stare at the plates and silvery
Charlie had tried to shield you from the truth, but you weren't that stupid
you respected Angel's choice, really, you did, and you had decided to be the bigger person among the two
that's why you began to put a lil bit of laxative into his portions whenever he decided to grace your efforts and actually eat your "disgusting cooking"
y’know just to spicy things up a little
at least now he had a valid reason to complain
with the whole fiasco on live TV and the sudden and suspicious appearence of the one and only Radio Demon at your doorstep, however, things started going haywire
Alastor's presence was eeirly demanding and unsettlingly charmimg at the same time
so it was only natural for you to gravitate the fuck away from him whenever you could
you always acted politely, greeting him whenever you bumped into him through the corridors of the hotel, but you only went as far as to appear courteous because you didn't want for him to go Hannibal Lecter on you. thanks, no thanks
“and what can you do my feminine fellow?”
“I can suck your dick!”
you had snorted a bit at that which immediately shifted the strawberry pimp's attention to yourself
“and what about you, pretty dame? I take it you're in charge of the kitchens around here?”
dressed in your chef attire, you were going to meekly answer him, but before you could, roaring laughter erupted in the room. it belonged to the one and only slutty spider you found oh so irritating
in the fraction of seconds, Alastor snapped his neck at an unnatural angle to stare at the spider with a strained smile on his face
needless to say, the cursed image would forever haunt your traumatized psyche
“hasn't your mother taught you it is rude to interrupt a conversation which you have no part in? that just won't do!”
static filled the air and you feared you were going to implode if the heavy pressure didn't lift off soon enough, so you decided to take action
“ugh... yes, I'm the head chef! but, well, I... could actually use some practice and proper training?”
you hated how uncertain you sounded, but Angel's comments and your own dissatisfaction with your culinary products made you quite self-conscious about your skills
“don't fret your pretty little head about it, my dear! I, for one, am a culinary connaisseur and wonderful chef, if I do say so myself. I'll be ecstatic to guide you through your training!”
how you'd be able to handle his booming voice during hours and hours of practice was your first and main concern, but you had never been one to refuse the chance to finally prove the people who had criticized you wrong *cough cough* Angel Dust
since that day, Alastor began to personally give you cooking lessons
he was exuberant and pretty sly when it came to veiled jabs about your dreadful cooking, but he really took his time to help you out
which you had been both grateful and suspicious about
“now, we can't have our future patrons starving to death, can we?”
he was strangely patient and an overall good teacher too (emphasis on overall)
he guided you step by step through each dish, simultaneously showing off his own flawless culinary skills
you hated that you daily found yourself boosting his already GIGANTIC ego, but you couldn't help it. you could only dream about reaching that level of artistry in cooking
he always came up with creative recipes to test your limits and cooked for you in order to make you more familiar with different tastes. his mother’s were your favorites, jambalaya being his one true specialty
he had blindfolded you once and proceeded to present you with various samples of spices, oilments and all kinds of food so that you could acquaint yourself with the smells and flavors of the ingredients and figure out yourself which ones would best suit a certain dish
saying you were hesitant at first was an understatement, because you know? being completely at the mercy of a sadistic serial killer who had terrorized the seven circles of hell? not even being able to see him? not on your bucket list
he had tried to ease your nervousness with the whole “if I wanted to hurt anyone here, I would have done so already” thing, but it was getting kind of old pretty fast
“if I had been one to play with fire, I'd have joined a circus”
he found your sense of humor as endearing your sheer presence
(when he rolled up his sleeves to cook, you felt like you could catch fire any minute, you were a slut for strong skinny arms)
yes, Alastor had always loved to show off his own impeccable skills but he unexpectedly found himself enjoying the moments spent in your company too
he relished in seeing you fail again and again, but he also admired the way you always managed to bring yourself back up to your feet each time
he had yet to fully understand if it was foolishness or stubbornness to guide your steps
either way, you turned out to be his favorite form of entertainment in the hotel!
no matter how many slights would he send your way, you'd always manage to find an appropriate remark that made his permanent smile stretch a little more in sheer amusement
“oh dear, this beef is so undercooked one could still hear the poor beast’s lament”
“the only noise I hear is the obnoxious ramblings of an arrogant boomer”
he wasn't technically a boomer but it was always so satisfying to irk him with terms he had no knowledge of
during your cooking lessons, when the only thing left to do with a dish was wait and pray for the best, you'd come to talk about everything and anything
he'd talk to you about his precious New Orleans as he remembered it and you'd fill him in on recent historical/social developments of your time
he always looked so taken when you shared with him that modern knowledge and it made you feel useful for a change
it was, dare you say it, almost adorable how he'd ask you countless questions about your home town, the catastrophes of the last century and had there been any other war since his death?
the topic switches almost made you dizzy though
once or twice, when the timing allowed, he'd even indulge in a musical show to pass time
on the days your mood soured because of a particularly complicated recipe or bad result, he'd drag you along and dance until you were so distracted by the absurdness of the circumstances that you forgot about your previous sadness
with time, his musical shows became more frequent as he realized you'd always offer him a genuine smile after his flashy performances
it was out of personal indulgence, not because he liked the way his music always seemed to cheer you up
he'd not been vocal about the way he tried to comfort you, but you were grateful nonetheless
the first time you managed to succesfully complete one of his complicated recipes, you had almost cried
“now, now deary, under my watchful eye, it was only a matter of time until you'd finally blossom into a fine cook!”
“Alastor can I... can I hug you?”
and how could he say no to such an adorable expression? he found himself stunned into silence, not being able to tell you yes either, therefore you slowly came closer as if trying not to scare a wild animal away
when Alastor passively stood before you, not moving away, you wrapped your arms around him
he really was such a dorky noodle
he didn't relax into the hug, but he kept still as you relished in the moment and let the pressure you had hoarded for months now loose
Alastor proceeded to show off your dish during dinner and even Angel Dust could do nothing but shut up and dig in
The all powerful Radio Demon was simply so proud of your progress - not that he doubted you'd prevail in the end, thanks to his expertise and guidance
from that moment onward things only got better and even if you didn't necessarily need Alastor's help anymore, neither of you ever mentioned going your separate ways
you were both secretly glad for the silent agreement
friendly banter and dad jokes were a daily occurrence and with your new-found confidence in the field, you'd always bite back showing off new delicious dishes instead than words
you still had trouble every now and then, but Alastor was always there to help you out
not that you'd ever hear the end of it if you actually asked him for help
“what was that, my darling? is the mightiest chef in Hell having trouble in Paradise?”
you had noticed however that he'd started sneaking glances your way more than usual lately and he also started following you around wherever you went in the hotel. he became your shadow both inside and outside of the kitchen
the attention soon became unnerving, even more so when you'd go in the kitchen only find a different flower on the counter each morning
you came to realize that Alastor's advances were rather old fashioned, but you would amuse the dork and yourself for a while before taking charge
gifts became an ordinary occurrence as well as praise and you preferred not to think about what praise could do to you when it came from Alastor
he enjoyed your reactions to his flattering words a little too much, he had to admit
you had had enough of his childish antics one day and you decided to finally put your plan into action
“Al, can you come here for one sec?”
he wasn't particularly fond of the nickname, but you just loved to get under his skin as much as he did when it came to you
“what can I do for you, my darling chef?”
“here, I have a gift for you”
he looked uncharacteristically unsure of what to do but slightly amused as well. in the end curiosity took the best of him and he finally decided to open the box you had handed to him rather unceremoniously
“what is this dear?”
the apron you had chosen was a perfect fit for your long boi
“read it, please”
“kiss the cook? well, if you ask me so nicely, I just might have to”
he then proceeded to peck your cheek and you swore you could have fainted right there and then by the sheer sweetness of the gesture
it hadn't exactly been what you had planned, but you weren't going to complain
your relationship was bound to be full of surprises apparently

6. The Wakandan Rainforest
In the dark of night, the lonely and fearsome prince moved soundlessly through ancient and majestic trees, tall and dense. The song of insects was alive with the chirp of crickets. The starlit leaves of vines and bushes reflected the clear blue from the sky peaking through branches stretched like fingers. In a single leap, his heavy body rustled the leaves up high like wind. He was as a bird on the branch, the ghost floating above--haunting the land. His dark sated eyes gazed out at the glowing full moon, concise and set apart from the clouds--lonely and after all these years still beautiful.
After beating the afterlife out of both Julip and Deanna for letting the girl go, he stood still as a statue on his perch until he spotted with his sharp eyes, Dawn tripping over a low branch as she was tiredly trekking through mud and dark soil, trying her hardest to avoid being bitten, stung, mauled, or worse--recaptured. Pissed at the siblings, he'd followed her from the time she first 'escaped' from the castle, running until her energy ran out. The light from outside of the canopy dropped fast making it nearly impossible for her to see which was too dangerous for her. She couldn't be in the woods alone, she'd get lost. She could be hurt. As a human she was fragile. Anything could kill her with a wrong step. He kept his eyes on her, trailing and guessing her path from above until she finally stopped too tired to continue, settling down on the ground with her back slowly against a tree to rest. There was something about her that made it impossible for him to leave her alone. It was as though he'd known her intimately since the day he was born but couldn't figure out how, like she was already a big part of him somehow. It was the same odd feeling that drove him to follow her through the woods right before her friends were murdered, even though he'd never before seen her. He'd then followed the vehicle of men and rescued her, taking her to his castle with no clear plan or motive other than keeping her near to himself to understand the feelings flowing through him, yet he'd been too shy to come close. He'd kept his distance. If anyone knew that, they'd laugh and think it nonsense--the fearsome and wicked Prince N'Jadaka--shy. It was laughable. As the oldest and strongest vampire in his kingdom, he was seen as unshakable. Alas, in all his power he still couldn't bring himself to be near a flimsy human, and now that she was running away trying to find safety he wasn't sure he was willing to stop her.
His lime green parrots flew overhead, watching over her just as he was. It seemed they recognized her somehow as well. Night turned to day and without a need to sleep, he waited patiently for her to wake, only coming down to divert the venomous snakes and spiders that would slither her way. She woke with a start but he was already back in the trees above when she looked around in a panic. After another mile, he watched the joy in her face as she realized she'd finally reached the big tree, a marker for the pathway from the forest. She still had a long way to go on foot as slow as she was. It took her the day to get to the stream which she crossed so painstakingly, soaking the bottom of her dress and even taking a drink. He forgot she needed to eat and drink, she was probably famished. Still, she kept moving and by the time nightfall returned, she was at the meadow clearing. He was impressed. She nestled down in the open field to stay the night and he hung back in the trees, staying put to keep watch.
The flowers claimed her in peace and the music of the night came from a chorus of crickets and frogs until a foreign noise caught his attention. He looked out from his position high in the trees to see a few men with guns walking through his forest about a mile out but the girl's direction. They did not know she was there but there was a high chance they'd find her and he could not bear the thought. Every now and then he'd find humans wandering. Some were threats and some were not, but regardless--they were all blood reserves that could not be wasted. These guys were definite threats that he needed to eradicate.
"Hold on," he pleaded silently hoping the girl would not wake and leave before he could return. He had to be quick. At top speed, he jumped from tree to tree and swooped down knocking the men unconscious and carrying them back to his castle in under 20 minutes. They'd be washed and bled for the banquet. He was back in no time at all having missed nothing.
In the daylight when the girl woke again, she made her way a little more carefully toward the snake pit and he felt nervous watching her tiptoe across a dirt floor of rattlesnakes. He couldn't take it. When she screamed, he swooped down and pulled her out sitting her on safe ground. She seemed more terrified of him than the snakes, stumbling backward and falling in shock. She hadn't known he was following. He took a short walk away from her putting space between himself and her to put her at ease.
"You shouldn't be in these woods alone," he stated watching her step further away. "It's dangerous out here-- for someone like you. Defenseless." He could hear her heart and it was racing. He was still scaring her. He didn't know how not to. "You can't run from me," he told her hoping she would understand. It only seemed to add to her fear and then he noticed that as she backed up, she was walking into a giant web of a poisonous spider.
"Wait! Stop moving!" He reached out but she went faster running into it and freaking out, screaming as she tried to pull off the sticky web. "Stop moving, let me help you," he said steadily with his hands up. He was able to get near and gently remove the large spindly arachnid from her hair, placing it on a nearby tree. He stayed at a distance from her while she calmed and when she caught her breath, she seemed to be a little more stable, staring at him. His nervousness returned and he stood still.
"Thanks," she muttered, her eye contact even. He straightened, not sure how to respond. He gave a stone-faced nod.
"So," she paused to look him over. "How long have you been here? You were gonna let me go," she accused.
"No such thing, I'd have stopped you," he lied trying to be convincing. "I planned to kill you when you reached the border, you know the location of my castle." He regretted saying it when the fear resurfaced within her. What was wrong with him? Luckily her fear lasted only seconds.
"You've had ample time," she combated watching him closely. "I think you're full of shit."
"Oh? I'm KING in these woods, I can do what I want to who I want. You really dare to test me? Pet?" His approach was smooth as it had always been, her words lighting a fire within him. He walked right up to her until he stood inches away, but she didn't move nor did she flinch and he scoffed--shown up. "Don't test me," he smirked until she continued her path away from him. He knew it well and she was planning to walk directly into bear territory.
"Wait," he called effectively halting her steps. She came back but only to pull him by the neck of his tunic to follow her. Of course, she wasn't strong enough to move him. It only worked because he chose it. If his subjects could see him now being led through his forest by the delicate fingers of a human woman, he'd be embarrassed but where no one could see--he didn't mind. She felt like home and being near her felt right.
The walk was good. Peaceful. They didn't talk though he'd wanted to, he didn't know what to say. It took him twenty minutes to decide on the perfect question, ruling out three others. It was the question he wanted answered the most. He waited for what seemed like the perfect moment, she was getting a little tired and needed to stop walking for a bit.
"A week ago," he started watching her sit on the ground in her silk dress. He heard her stomach grumble aggressively and felt bad. "Hold on," he gestured pausing in his escape to look back at her. "Don't move."
He knew of a fruit grove full of plums and he was there and back in mere minutes, offering her the fruits which she held like gold. He waited until she got one in her system to pose his question.
"Why were you in the woods?"
The story of her travel from North America to Africa for the sake of dance intrigued him.
"Is that why your feet," he gestured with his eyes not wishing to insult her. She didn't seem to care.
"These are dancer feet, we suffer for beauty," she countered. Of course this came with a sadness stemming from her missing her performance, she was very upset and he understood why. He hadn't known about it until this moment. No one had said anything, too afraid he gathered.
"I've never seen a ballet," he shared, curiosity bubbling. "I probably never will considering I'm contained to this forest."
"Why is that," she frowned. It was a tough question to answer, not because he didn't know but because of how it affected him. It was part of the blood curse passed from his parents to him, something his father brought on voluntarily without weighing the consequences. He was stuck with said consequences and left on his own, a baby forced to grow himself. The first wanderers he found in the forest, he turned by biting them. He didn't know then what would happen but once they turned they were bound to his side and he was no longer quite so alone though he was still lonely. That was the beginning of his kingdom and his motivation for turning straggling travelers.
"That's why you killed Deanna and Julip, you wanted friends." Her face was full of sympathy and he straightened, not liking the idea of being pathetic in her eyes.
"They're not my friends, they're my subjects. I have no friends."
"Eh, you could," she poked at his arm and he walked away, disappearing from her sight not wanting to appear weak. "Where are you going," she called dryly.
"Away."
"I was just saying if you dropped the holier than thou attitude, you might be a little less bitchy."
"Get your ass back here," she commanded and he turned on his heel incredulous. No one in his life had ever spoke to him an ounce of the way she had. If they had, he'd have tortured them to send a clear message.
"Careful," he warned, but she didn't seem fearful. Any fear she had melted the second she first challenged him.
Bitchy? He scowled baring his teeth.
"I'll show you bitchy," he whispered lunging at her. She screamed tripping over herself to get away but he noticed that her heart was steady. As he chased her in slow motion compared to his possible speed, she wasn't afraid. She was having fun. She screamed again tossing a plum at him which he caught as she giggled running behind a tree. It was when he broke the branch she was hiding behind like a toothpick that she stopped giggling.
Passing him she made her easy back to their spot and though he'd gotten a little bit carried away, he couldn't deny that it was the most fun he'd ever had.
"Uhh. Maybe we should just talk some more, yeah?"
He shrugged.

Imagine (Son of Hades! Percy; Godswapped! Big Three's kids) (7/8) or (12/13)
Blood of Olympus pt. 1 - The Aftermath
Hello! So there I go dividing more stuff - oh well, what did you expect? Before reading, make sure to check the masterpost - there's a lot before this.
Before anything, I want to apologize. A reader brought to my attention that I had not put on trigger warnings - a mistake that I corrected as soon as I could. I apologize if I accidentally triggered anyone. I'm sorry, I won't do that again. Check the masterpost for the warnings before proceeding and tell me if I forgot any. So, anyway. Good reading, enjoy!! :))
They're traveling to Athens. It's slower because the winds don't cooperate - but they have some time. They have to be there by August 30th, so ten days.
It's good, Annabeth thinks. It gives her time. Time to plan, to strategize. To hope a part of her best friend, the only remnant of her teenage years that is not dead or off serving the gods, is not still in the Pit.
She keeps herself occupied - between maps, research, and daily messages from Reyna and Malcolm, Annabeth has not a lot of time to ponder.
But when she does - and she does anyway, because Annabeth is a solver. Is what she does, she solves problems - but she has no idea how to fix her best friend.
Percy - Perseus, really, because this is him in full combat mode - has been awake for exactly a day and a half. Literally.
He doesn't sleep - mostly, he just patrols. It doesn't seem to affect him much. At least he is eating. Oh yes, the eating - he eats like the food is going to be taken from him at any second, and as much as he can.
She can't help but be scared - he has the same scar, at the same place. If Annabeth is a little affected by it, how is he dealing with the remainder of the son of Hermes?
Annabeth knows rationally that she can't blame him for not talking to anyone, for acting differently. But it hurts, that he won't confide in any of them, in her - not about what happened down there.
It's been a day and a half. He was in the Pit for more or less twenty days - and time in the Underworld is different. What if he was stuck there for years in his perspective? What did he see there?
These are questions that, unfortunately, only Perseus could answer. And he is deflecting. Well, at least he looks closer to crashing when they trade places at patrol - Annabeth will wait until he is ready, but she really hopes is soon.
Sometimes, when she is alone, she wishes none of this ever happened. If they were in power, maybe this wouldn't happen - it's not hubris, right? To see that they would be better than the gods?
The daughter of Athena is not alone in worrying. Most of the crew share different levels of concern - mostly prominent in Will, who saw all of Percy's scars and is torn between wanting to know how he got them, and never asking for fear of the answer.
Leo is surprised to notice that he is also very worried about the health aspect. He is not a person that generally focuses on humans - but this is different. He saw prosthetics before - Hephaestus cabin does a lot of them - and this kind of amputation? Very traumatic. People took a lot of time to adapt - Jake amputated his foot eight months ago and he is still having phantom limb pain and disassociating from it.
Okay that Perseus' new leg is a marvel of engineering that Leo's hands are itching to dismantle to see how it works - alas, Daedalus never left the blueprints of his fake body in Annabeth's laptop, he asked - but how did he deal with it in the middle of a wasteland?
Everything came full circle when the boy in question finally crashes - Nico is the first one to wake up with the screams. They aren't shrieks, nor words, just sheer screams of pure horror.
When he is out of his door, sword at hand, all the other cabins are opening too - Jason is the last to come down, being in the deck in patrol.
Perseus' door is cold. There's no other name for it - there's an aura of pure death around it, covering the entire hallway in a dreadful mood. It curls around Nico's spine - he can feel the shiver in his bones.
The one who opens it is Hazel, the one who seems least affected by the cold - it's so easy to forget that she was dead once. Perseus is immobile in the bed, his mouth open in the awful scream.
Before Will can stop him, Nico goes to wake Perseus up. He has no idea how to deal with the situation, but he cannot keep hearing this. Piper tries to hold his arm to stop him, but she is still sleep ridden.
The son of Zeus barely touches the other demigod - his fingers barely skimming Perseus' arm - and he is pinned to the wall, an ax he didn't even seem prepared to slash at him, with a tiger growling behind Perseus.
Nico suddenly feels like his true age. His whole body tires and sags, and he feels the drawn in his bones - it's only a few seconds, but it feels like an eternity. He wants to drop down - to rest and let his slumber carry his soul away.
He closes his eyes - expecting either the slash of the blade or the tiredness to take him away - but neither happens.
"STOP"
It's Piper. It works - more or less. Perseus doesn't immediately drop everything - the light just seems to return to his eyes. They are black still, but the vines of green are back, creeping towards his pupils.
"Oh. Oh shit. Shit shit shit. Nico. I... I... I'm s-sorry... Oh gods I'm so, so, so s-sorry I-... I didn't... I didn't t-think... I-... this, this wasn't s-su-su... supposed to happen! This wasn't supposed t-to c-come with me!"
Perseus worked himself into a frenzy. He is in a corner of his room now, his ax left behind, but the tiger firmly in front of his master. None of the others have noticed Nico's strength leaving him. The son of Zeus half thinks he imagined it.
"No... no. No. No, no, no. No touching. No touching. No. No touching."
Perseus is almost trembling, but he is not crying. Nico realizes that he saw Perseus cry only once - when Luke was spread on the floor of the Olympus, Annabeth's dagger buried to the hilt in his tight. He wonders if the hero ever cried for himself.
The son of Zeus - and most of their friends that took a step forward - put their hands up, take a step back. Perseus seems calmer.
They don't talk about it. Nico suspects something happened - he felt so tired. He felt eighty - his body decaying around him. But nobody mentioned it - and when they left Percy alone, it was like it was just a nightmare.
PTSD, Will called it. Anxiety after days of being hunted through hell - the trauma still fixed on his mind, the idea of being in danger every second of every day. Depending on the outcome of this war, they might all have it by the end of it, if they don't already.
But Nico knows there's more to it. He would pass it up as a figment of his imagination if Perseus touched anyone. But he doesn't - he avoids even looking at people for too long.
He tries to bring up the topic with Annabeth - the gloves, the sweaters back. She thinks that it's comfort, something to tether him into reality.
Nico doesn't believe that - he doesn't think she does either. He had his own struggles with anxiety for years, but he has no time for pushing. After that night, Perseus doesn't scream again - one has to wonder if he is even sleeping at all.
Nico wants to help. For once, correct something that he knows it's his mistake no matter how many times they deny it. It's how he finds himself in the third night hovering in Perseus' door.
This is not really a smart idea - because the other demigod notices and opens it, so tired - there are bags under his eyes, but the ax is held precariously in his hand.
"What is it, Nico?"
The correct answer would be "Sorry, didn't mean to bother you." But Nico's dumbass teenager mind stutters.
"I... I wanted to check on you. Are you okay? I... I just noticed that you seem kinda weird."
Percy is not angry or resentful - he doesn't even slam the door in his face as Nico would probably do. He is just tired, and that's a thousand times worse.
"Why... why do you care?"
"We are friends, aren't we?"
"Yeah, sure. Kind of." The "you never bothered before" goes unsaid.
It stings, but it's not a lie. Their past is turbulent - a lot of misunderstandings and mistakes on Nico's side, a lot of grudges and overreacting on Percy's. Still, they fought in a war together. They're still fighting.
"I care about you" He hopes Percy doesn't see the blatant subtext "Something happened - don't... d-don't shut me out. I did that when Bianca... died. Nothing good came out of that."
Perseus takes a deep breath - he looks exhausted to the bone. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to mention Bianca. One of his hands tremble - Nico sees that no parts of his body touch the mechanical leg, ever.
"Something happened. I fell down into hell." He must see the flinch Nico gives, and breaths out "Sorry. That was harsh. It... it wasn't your fault. It's nobody's fault."
Something in his eyes tells Nico that he does blame someone - not him, but maybe Arachne. Or the gods. Or Annabeth. Or worse, himself.
Well, that couldn't stand.
"I know" He doesn't, but that's not the moment "But you need help. I can help."
Nico makes a move to touch Perseus' arm - it's a bad idea because his whole body flinches away.
"I don't. I don't want your help."
It's uncalled for, and it hurts on Nico's pride - of course, he wouldn't need Nico's help. What did Nico ever do to him? Was his touch so unwelcomed? Well, if he thinks he can do it alone, Nico should leave him to it.
"Sure, suit yourself. I won't bother again."
Perseus sighs again when the sixteen-year-old leaves. He doesn't want to hurt Nico - gods know that he should, dammit his weak spot for cute people that would drive a knife through his back - but they should leave him alone. He is fine. He'll be fine.
Hazel is also worried - mainly for the backlash of the coming back to the natural, living world. For her, it was weeks of adaptation - to air, breathing, the sun. And Perseus was in a worse place even.
Sometimes she wonders if the Tartarus shouldn't have been her weight to carry - if the Underworld shouldn't be her place. Hazel loves the surface - Nico, Leo, and Frank, and warmth - but there's a part of her that will forever be under a sad tree in the Fields of Asphodel.
Perseus is nothing but kind - he saved her. He saved all of them - not only from danger - but from themselves. And she is too chicken to help, after listening to her brother whine about his own experience.
Her only comfort comes when she is able to cuddle with Leo - Leo, her Leo, her soon-to-be Leo. While Frank is older and her crush for him never diminished, her own for Leo only grew.
That's why, when her patrol is ending on the fourth morning and Leo emerges from the belly of the ship, covered in grease and clutching an ash-covered wrench, talking under his breath about a thing or another, she goes khaki wacky and plants one on him.
Leo flays a little - Hazel is from the 40s. She thinks maybe this is being too forward - even if in Nova Roma, this isn't uncommon behavior. Girls are able to kiss boys - it's not being a sharecrop anymore.
The boy takes a deep breath - like he can't believe this small closed mouth smooch is happening and gives her a grin.
"Hi sugar, are you rationed?"
She laughs until her belly hurts, and they smooch again - no tongue, no open mouth. Leo blushes horribly - and it's easy to see under the grease.
When this war ends, it'll be she. And Leo. And Frank. Their lives are too short to spend pining and pondering - she sees her brother every day, and that's not what she wants.
After the war, there will be no wars. There will be no quests and no killing - just peace. Heroes get to have peace - like the original Jason. The gods are not ruining this for Hazel anymore. So she walks Leo to the front of the ship, so they can watch the sunrise together.
In the afternoon of their fourth day, they fight against a mixed group of monsters - and that's the day Piper actively begins to see the changes on Perseus.
She likes him a lot - he is an amazing friend - but he has no mercy. He annihilates two-thirds of the obstacle Gaea sent for them. It's a sight to see - because he is not close to the ground. There are no skeletons, no vines, no metal, no shadow under the sun of the middle of the day.
It's just him, his ax, and a skeleton tiger. Perseus doesn't even do it cleanly - there are blood, ichor, and dust smeared all across the floor and through his clothes. He twirls the blade around, and they don't even see him as he chops up monsters left and right.
Some try to flee - he doesn't let them. Something keeps them in the ship - and Piper would bet is Perseus, for he just keeps slaughtering them. She doesn't feel bad for them - this is war. They would kill the demigods, exactly like he is doing.
Piper is... curious. She wonders if he would rip the gods apart too - if they would bleed as much as some monsters, of if they would just turn into dust. If Perseus needs to cut them in pieces and scatter them on the Pit himself.
She isn't the only one - she sees the reluctant lust in Nico's and Jason's eyes, the sheer possibilities blooming in Annabeth's eyes. She sees fear mix with interest - Piper sees everything.
She doesn't think Perseus is well, or better. He isn't telling them shit for some reason after all. You don't go to hell and get on with life. Piper doesn't trust him to not turn on them - she knows him for about a month and a half now, a third of which he was in hell - but if he is going to destroy someone, is probably Gaea. Or the gods - she isn't bothered either way.
They are all dangerous. Reality-changing, world-ending dangerous. A skilled warrior? That doesn't scare Piper. Not anymore. Not in the middle of a war.
"Huh. Can you teach me?"
Perseus gives her a feral smile. Across his cheek, there's a streak of gold - for a second, Piper wonders if he is not a god himself.
Annabeth wonders if the gods will let them survive after the war. They got too powerful, too much. Sometimes, she looks at their eyes and sees they're more god then men. Their powers accumulate - evolve. Better.
Before, she was a sharp mind. Now Annabeth feels her godly blood spurning her further and further - no longer just mind, but the body. She sees attacks before they come - she is a goddess.
And she likes it. The power coursing through her veins - the ability to control. She then swears to herself they'll be that way - forever.
The following day, they stop by an island - Perseus feels a big gathering of ghosts. It's Odysseus' palace. They go in a group to investigate: Perseus himself, Hazel for her mist, Annabeth and Will. Nico would go - but he hasn't talked to Perseus for two days now, and is mostly sulking.
Annabeth - who is as cunning as Odysseus himself once was - asks Hazel to cloak her as a beggar. She asks around - but all suitors give vague answers. Even her wordplay cannot get a single phrase out of the ghosts.
Until Perseus puts her hands on a ghost - Eurymachus is his name - and the ghost is possessed - it tells them anything. Annabeth is clocking information from it - devouring with an avid look. Her grey eyes gleam in the blueish light of the spirits.
For Will, is almost otherworldly. It's Hades and Athena. It's more - it's Perseus Jackson and Annabeth Chase, controlling and pushing something they never did before.
They trade looks, and their glowing hands stay entwined long after the ghost tells them that Apollo no longer controls Delphi and that Nike is lost - running free.
Victory, Perseus thinks, Victory. A goddess so vain, that she thought the tides of war depend only on her - not on Tyche, or Bia, Enyo, and Ares. So many gods of war - so many superiors - and she thought herself capable of defying them - and the demigods. For a charioteer, Nike is quite a proud little goddess, isn't she?
So they have their next goal - finding the elusive arrogant dickhead - and following travel to Athens. With Victory on their side or not.
With the glowing phantom, their disguise is blown. Perseus himself was never proficient with ghosts - but he is very proficient with his Ax, and that cut spirits very well.
They fight - but Perseus is just so tired. He just wants them all to go away. With his powers fully restored, even if the earth doesn't obey him anymore, increasingly possessed by Gaea, the shadows should.
He is fond of his shadows - they are a comforting presence, so different from the corrupted ones of Tartarus. He revels in them - Perseus is their master. As he is master of the green ghostly fire, that seems to burn the spirits away.
He hopes sincerely that they don't even get the pleasure of the Fields of Punishment. He hopes they disappear forever in the void - Perseus has no time for petty enemies anymore in this long war which has absolutely nothing to do with them.
Will is hurt in the side - a gladius - but doesn't stay like that. As they climb back to the ship, his wound closes under the fiery light of the morning sun across his fingers - magic that was supposed to help only others, and never himself.
His father disappears, and Will is getting more power. He is not the only one - Perseus fear they'll become too much like their parents, that their powers will amplify their faults and take their humanity away - but is he even human anymore?
He looks at his "leg". It's not him - he is a cyborg. There's a dead piece of metal in him. Perseus could feel the vitality around him - their sheer youth, blazing like a light to burn all the empires. He could take it all for himself. He could kill them all, grind them to dust - they wouldn't even have time to fight him.
Perseus could take it all for himself - become immortal, a parasite latching unto others - how does that make him human? How is he any better than a flea?
They decide on a group to go to Olympia after lunch - Percy, Leo, Hazel, Nico. Four is a good number - a solid number, made of people who are non-competitive. The ones who loathe themselves - isn't this fun? Maybe they'll debate who is the worst.
They divide when they get to the island - Leo and Hazel go one way, the Nico and Percy go the other - Leo is the one to engineer it, but Percy wholeheartedly approves - it's tiring to coexist with a passive-aggressive Nico. He is done with this situation.
While the couple walks, Nico and Percy stand in awkward silence, side by side. Eventually, Percy sighs - he doesn't want to cave, but they have bigger problems to work on, and he kinda misses Nico's sarcasm.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For being harsh with you."
"No, you aren't."
"I am!"
"Will you let me help you? Will you let anyone help you?"
"I don't need help. I'm better."
"Then let me touch your hand."
"Go on."
"With no gloves."
"What? Why? No!"
"See? You aren't better!"
"We're in the middle of a war. I was in Tartarus a week ago."
"Promise me then. Promise me that after the war, you'll get help."
"Nico..."
"Promise me Percy. And don't... don't break this one."
It's the lowest of low blows, but Percy's acquiesces. They start talking - stiltedly. Percy still doesn't touch him. Then Nico sprouts something he'll later regret (or maybe not): Calypso is again locked up.
Nico sees now - before, when Perseus was mad, the earth trembled. With no earth to answer to him, the shadows curled around his ankles and his covered fingertips - rounding behind his ear and on the curve of his smirk.
The son of Zeus is not a fearful person - but that doesn't make him afraid. It makes him remember why he is so infatuated with Perseus - he is not only a hero - he is more. He is a rebel and a challenge - Perseus only follows his own rules. It's a bravery Nico lacks, and one that attracts him like a moth to a fire.
Perseus just asks him to repeat, and then hums when he does, stuttering over his stupid blush. It's mercy that the demigod is not looking in his direction.
"Fret not, Nico. Let Calypso enjoy her vacation. The beaches are really pretty this time of the year."
It's scary - there's no one in Percy's voice. It's like the demigod is on the brick of a really bad meltdown - but they both know they don't have time for it now. So Perseus breathes in - once, twice.
Calypso will be free, and he is not even using his winning wish for it - he already used one once. She did nothing wrong, they are the oathbreakers. Perseus should know better than to trust any oath in a river that they never put a finger on.
So he lies back on the rock. If they survive - when, because he didn't go to hell to die because of Tartarus' less impressive sister - she'll be free. And well prized for this stunt.
Leo and Hazel get back accompanied by Tempest, who, again, appears always following some big revelation - maybe the venti also serves Hazel's new mistress.
The group heads towards the ruins which are roughly twenty kilometers wide. They decide to walk through them, looking for something to pop up - the earth doesn't answer to Perseus, but that doesn't mean that he can't feel the power on it. Eventually, they head toward the Temple of Zeus where an old Nike statue used to stand.
Leo provokes the goddess to come forth by hurling insults at the Nike brand - it's his specialty, sassing up gods. Perseus is more of a shade kind of guy if he can say so himself.
The goddess' Roman and Greek side, Nike and Victoria, are at war with each other trying to decide which side will be victorious. It's ridiculous.
The goddess challenges the four to a fight to the death, with the Romans and Greeks against each other. But there are no Romans and Greeks here. Nico and Perseus lived on both sides - and even if Hazel is Roman-inclined and Leo didn't have time to meet Nova Roma, it doesn't change anything. They wouldn't fight each other.
The time to fight is long gone - they should be rallying against Gaea. But Nike is too proud to admit to a tie - to both sides of herself to have peace.
She demands them to fight in an arena and gives them four minutes to be present. To make sure that they get there she sends four metal statues after them. But instead of fighting each other, they will fight the goddess.
Nike can try and influence their minds - but in the end, with her so weak, battling against herself, it's no match for four strong-willed demigods. Perseus is so tired of gods with petty struggles in the middle of something so much bigger.
The goddess-es fight for him and Nico - what side should they be. They trade verbal blows - Senatus, Praetor, Titan War are all used as arguments.
Funny isn't it? She wasn't on his side a month ago. Perseus fell - into the depths of the abysm - and while he won - again, and again, and again - it wasn't truly a divine victory.
It was not her victory. The merit is his, only his. She didn't sweep down in her great golden wings to save him, did her? Nor will she help with a war to save herself and her family. So why should she exist at all? Why should Perseus abstain from draining her and...
Perseus clenches his fists - he can't, he won't kill Victory. That's not him. He is not a murderer. That's just the remnants of the Pit in his good-for-nothing mind.
She is horrible - but if she dies, she'll end up in Tartarus. And not even her colossal hubris deserves that.
So, they subdue her - her powers aren't enough to stop the four of them, not when Percy alone and twelve defeated her superior - Ares himself. And, when defeated, Nike concedes her blessing for the upcoming war - they just won Victory.
It's a good omen - but she does advise them that one of them shall die - and that they would need the Physician's Cure.
When they go back to the board, Annabeth and Will start researching - both of them know the name, but can't link it to anything else. They find it in the Infirmary Archives - some that Will brought for light reading. It's not very hopeful, since none of them are brewers, but Hazel is a magic user and Will is a healer - they can do this.
Daedalus laptop holds the answers to the formula: Pylosian Mint, Makhai, and the Curse of Delos. They would also need Asclepius himself - but seeing that he was condemned to Tartarus and probably still there, it's more probable they'll do this themselves.
Frank, Jason, and Annabeth go to the port of Pylos looking for the poison - obvious options for the small mission nearby water.
They walk for a while. Annabeth notices a weird tension between Frank and Jason - Frank is giving Jason pointed looks, while Jason gives Frank worried ones - that has been that way for a few days now.
She couldn't possibly know that was about not only Jason's obvious crush on Perseus - which Frank is pushing the blonde to act on - but about Frank's own feelings.
Yesterday morning, while Frank was coming to take his shift on the patrol, he saw Hazel and Leo kissing. And the worst part is that he is not only sad but longing.
He is not jealous. He wants that - he wants all. Is too much and he doesn't deserve it - Frank feels so small, compared to the demigods he is traveling with. And with such... disgusting desires. The son of Mars only feels guilty - he has to erase this from his mind.
Eventually, Annabeth helps Frank to force an old soldier ghost to give them answers - she tells them they need to go to Nestor's Cave and gives them the directions.
Frank goes in and talks to a man who hands him a bottle. The son of Mars explains that his cousins, other descendants of Pluto, have been living there for generations.
They dinner together - Jason is not very welcomed. Most people there still remember the last war - and aren't all that fond of the progeny of Poseidon and Zeus - but as they are close to the sea, at least they're civil.
Some of them recount fondly about their own days at Nova Roma - they are all clear-sighted mortals, even if the godly blood is too diluted in their veins, but these are the ones that have it closer - great-grandkids of minor gods attracted to the old blood.
There's even a daughter of a minor river deity - and a pair of twins that are direct descendants of Juventa, in her travels to visit Hercules. It's an overall paradise, in the middle of a war.
Annabeth misses her dad. And Thalia. And Luke. She misses having a family - she wonders if this war will turn her unrecognizable - or else if it already did. If they are too godly for the mortal world - if they shouldn't take their rightful place.
As a parting gift, the cousins gave Frank the small vile of poison - it's the Pylosian Mint, the first piece to their puzzle. Before leaving, they tell the trio about a chained god, in Sparta.
They go back to the ship - in the mess hall, Frank muses that the chained god might be Ares because the Spartans believed that if they chained him up the spirit of war would never leave them.
Hazel disagrees - she thinks it might be Aphrodite Areia - Sparta was the first place where the goddess was worshiped, and if the Romans have aspects, wouldn't the greeks too? It's quickly shot down - Dyonisus said they were reborn - their aspects changing with their cult, if they weren't worshipped at the same time.
Perseus thinks he heard once that Aphrodite Ourania, Aphrodite Areia, and Aphrodite Pandemos were worshipped at the same time - but doesn't mention it. It doesn't seem important - he might be wrong.
Piper herself argues that it might be one of their sons - Anteros, Himeros, Phobos, Deimos, Harmonia, Pothos, or Eros - for which Jason, Nico, and Frank flinch - they wouldn't want to meet the divine couple's offspring again.
Other possibilities are the Erotes - which seems to make Piper happy, for one of them is Hermaphroditus theyself - or one of Ares or Aphrodite other children - too many to list here.
Anyway, they set course to Sparta - for the happiness of Annabeth and the general tiredness of the group. It is like an RPG play - Nico muses - they have a ton of mini-quests. It's tiring, and it's boring - flicking like bees after something or other for a bigger purpose that never seems to come.
They go to sleep, and Piper has a vision: it's her, Annabeth, and Hazel, running through the ruins of a temple - the temple of Phobos, her half brother. There's blood on the blonde's forehead - and Piper looks like she did before.
She doesn't want to go there. It's fear - she understands it - but that's one fear she is not keen on facing. Her old short hair, the boy clothes, the adam's apple, the stubble.
But they need this - someone might die. Someone will need this. So damn her half-brother. Her mother promised her, that when this ends she'll be herself like she always wanted.
So she goes and tells the group - no one is really happy to send them to somewhere they might get hurt - especially because the last time Annabeth went on a mission on the Underground, shit happened - but the daughter of Athena starts to list all of their mistakes and they have no real say in what the girls do, so off they go, into Sparta.
The six boys stay behind - but no one is slacking. Will ropes Frank into helping to research for anything they might have on the Physician's Cure; Leo finally convinces Perseus to have a look at his leg - even if just to see how much time before Perseus has to go to the Phlegethon to get more fuel; and Nico and Jason are stuck in patrol together.
Which is no good - they haven't really talked since the Cupid episode, and the last few days, the worry about Perseus and the small missions clouded everyone's personal turmoils. But now that the son of Hades is somehow adapting, they have time.
And time is a dangerous thing. Before the two weren't alone in the ship - there was always one on the mission, one otherwise occupied. Leo - and probably Frank and Piper - have been running interference.
Jason had no courage to approach Perseus, as Nico did. Nico knows that - it's in the way that Perseus treats Jason, just like he does Frank - pretending that the Pit never happened.
It's impossible to do this with Leo, who looks at his leg and his medical history and see far more than the others. Or Annabeth, Will, and Hazel, who he is closer to. Or Piper, who just seems to know everything. And Nico, who confronted him face to face.
Jason, however, only knows him one-sided - Perseus doesn't know him. They are friends, and before all this happened, they seemed to spend more and more time together. But they aren't close - the camaraderie didn't have enough time to develop into the trust.
That's why is so weird - he knows what the blonde is going through - the wish to be closer, to be able to at least help in any indirect way, but unable to gleam more about the situation. The information didn't come so easy in real life as it does in dreams.
They don't talk anymore, him and Jason. They just sit in silence or walk around their rounds in opposite directions. Eventually, the son of the sea god can't help it.
"How is he?"
Nico has the urge to answer "Wouldn't you like to know?", but that's petty and unnecessary. Jason isn't a bad person. It's just too easy to love Perseus sometimes.
"Better, I think. After the war, he'll be."
It's more for their sake than the truth. They try to talk again, stilted and trivial. Nico feels awkward - he misses their natural friendship. It won't stop because of a mutual crush - but they need to work for it.
So he settles for this trying. It's bad, and it's mostly both of them skirting around topics, their upbringings making it difficult - both have the emotional development of teaspoons. But they're trying, and it's okay.
Meanwhile, the girls are descending the Temple of Phobos, which is under a blazing hill. Hazel goes in front - manipulating the mist to stop the fire and looking for traps - and Piper and Annabeth follow the hike, talking quietly to fulfill the silence.
"What are you hoping to do, after this?"
"I don't know. Spend time with my dad. Fight for trans rights. Learn how to use more weapons. You?"
"I want to reshape the world - to build something. Maybe a city for the greeks. Maybe go into politics - Nova Roma looked directly out of my dreams."
"I do like politics - I'm more on the activist side, though."
"I was all for the Nobel Woman Initiative last year - there were two of my half-sisters there. You know, I did think it would be cool for schools to take this more seriously - I did my freshman year the same school as Percy, and like, barely any girls at the honor roll - even though most PA classes were brimming with them."
"I'm guessing traditional boarding school - I went to a lot of those, y'know. I was finishing my sophomore year before this mess, taking three AP classes. Stretched out like hell."
"I was taking five - because crazy over-achievers Perseus and Rachel took four, and I couldn't decide on the options. I was overworking for a while, but I did manage better than them - I think Rachel was high every time we visited her on the St. Claire's Academy, but maybe it was just the sheer amount of coffee and Redbull."
They keep on talking. It's the first time Annabeth talks to the daughter of Aphrodite and doesn't think she is an airhead. Piper is a conversationalist - exactly the type of friend she lacks, someone that can keep up with her streams of random thoughts.
Maybe they could have a girl's night with Rachel when they go back to camp. Maybe invite Hazel, and even Reyna too - Annabeth has never had one of those, stereotypical girly things. But maybe it could be cool.
It serves as a good distraction - the longer they stay on the temple, the worse it gets. Annabeth feels crawling in her skin and a sucking - a sucking that she remembers coming from the Pit, taking her in like if she was trash.
Hazel feels cold - her skin flickers. Some moments, she can't touch anymore. It's like being dead again - the rustle of the leaves in the trees of the Asphodel Fields ring in her ears as she walks through the marble halls.
For Piper, it's her nightmare vision all over again. It's like she never came out, never took the estrogen. There are mirrors everywhere she looks - there's no escaping the image that she hates the most - Piper, the boy.
It's not that "Piper, the boy" is ugly. He is just not her - that's not her body, that's not her face, that's not her. Her gender dysphoria is rising high in the back of her mind.
They keep going into the temple anyway - it's not easy to find the "chained god". They find instead Mimas - the giant supposed to kill Hephaestus, and, apparently, Ares - now that his stupid brother Damasen is dead.
Annabeth can't connect the dots yet, but the way the giant talks about Damasen helping an enemy - in the end, it all ties up to Perseus. What doesn't, these days? She is just so frustrated about the lack of information - and her new powers of extracting stuff won't work on a giant, she's pretty sure.
The titan is the opposite of Hephaestus - where the man is silent and intelligent, he is brute force and loud voices. He remembers them of Ares - Hazel even notices that he shares features with Mars Ultor.
To fight a god meant to fight intelligence, they must be emotional - Aphrodite would be excellent for this quest. But Hazel herself takes the lead - her magic is not mind-based - while Piper follows her routine of never being where is expected of her.
But none of the three are in their best shape - fear, the mental manipulation, drains more of them than the actual physical effort. Hazel is able to drive her broadsword across the god's shoulder - but the backlash of him shaking her off throws her towards the wall.
Annabeth - the strongest of the two remainings, physically at least - hoist the younger girl over her shoulders and starts to run. Around here, there's a faint grey-ish light - her mother's blessing shining through her skin.
He nearly strikes the vulnerable Annabeth with her extra weight, managing to hit her in the thigh. Piper, however, is quicker - love always is - and stabs him in the calf.
"You think that would hurt me? Silly little thing, just like your mother - I fought against two gods in the last war - you are nothing, little gallus puella!"
Piper doesn't get Latin, but she knows enough to think that's a trans-related insult. This is not her first rodeo - not even in her old boy's body - but it stills fill her with rage she cannot name.
"You should be more worried about how the makhai will castrate you, instead of caring about what's inside my shorts!"
The giant laughs - but there are doubts in his voice. The makhai hasn't been seen in centuries - but it all connects. It's not Ares or his children - it's the spirits of war that the Spartans thought to be pieces of Ares himself.
Piper takes advantage of his distraction and charges at him with her blade, causing the giant to stumble backward into a wall and destabilize the temple.
"You're worst than that godling that was manipulating my weak, useless brothers - that one lost a leg. I wonder how many limbs I can chop off you before offering you to Mother Gaea."
That is enough to incite Annabeth's rage. She puts Hazel carefully on the floor and attacks He barely managed to deflect her attack, and as he reaches out to grab the prone girl in the ground, Piper slices off Mimas' arm and hair off.
While Piper is keeping Mimas occupied, Annabeth released the makhai from the statue of Ares. The makhai follow the girls - they couldn't forget the smell of Aphrodite Areia and Pallas Athena, not even in a thousand years. They swarm Mimas, and as he staggers off-balance, both of them deliver the final blow by stabbing the giant in his gut.
Mimas topples face-first into the nearest doorway and disintegrated into ash when the stone face of Phobos falls onto him.
The god appears only to deliver the final blow, but doesn't help at all. He just laughs at their predicament and leaves them to find their way off this maze of terrors.
It trembles over them. Hazel is still unconscious - there's a trickle of blood running through the side of her face. Something is slowing down Annabeth - she shivers every time they take a step. So it comes to Piper to try and guide them through the falling building.
She is still a boy - and she hates it - but maybe it's just an illusion, and when they get out of here, she'll get her two-year estrogen body back.
Piper guides them out, with the makhai in tow. It doesn't feel like a victory - not when, even though she crossed the border of the hill, she keeps her boy's body.
Climbing back on the ship, she hides herself in her room. She - he, because that's a he body, and a he person, and she is not a he but when she looks in the mirror, he looks back.
Piper works herself into a panic attack alone in her room - and it's actually Annabeth that comes to check on her.
"Tell me five things you can see, Piper"
Annabeth's golden tresses. A blue sweater that is probably Percy's and got mixed in the laundry. One of Leo's screws that are everywhere he goes. A crown of flowers Katie Bell did for her. Malcolm's favorite book sitting at her nightstand.
"Good. Four things you can touch."
A calloused hand beneath hers. The soft jeans Annabeth is using. The cold hardwood floors. The wall against her back.
"You're doing amazing. Now three things you can hear."
The ship's engine rumbling beneath them. Annabeth's voice. Nico's brooding rock music coming from his room.
"Almost done. Two things you can smell."
Annabeth's lavender cologne mixed with the grime and sweat of their taxing day. The salty smell of the ocean.
"One thing you can taste."
Her mouth on Annabeth's. It's Piper who starts it - she is just so overwhelmed by Annabeth's everything, still worked up about the anxiety attack she just had, and they are so close.
The daughter of Athena is surprised and pushes back - she sits side by side with Piper, holding her wrist so she can't flee.
"Piper, I... I didn't mean to pass the... wrong... signs. I don't like girls. And boy body or not, you're still a girl."
It's the best and the worst let down of Piper's life. She nods - she is the daughter of Aphrodite. She should've known better. Annabeth is in love with Perseus - for years now.
"We can still be friends, right?"
Piper nods - Annabeth thinks it's ironic. It's the same interaction she had with Perseus - and she knows that, deep down, being friends is not enough, how much this rejection is just as bad as any other.
But she wants to keep Piper in her life. Is unfair - but there's something guiltily pleasurable about having someone that likes you, to know that you're not undesirable.
It's selfish, but Annabeth never claimed to be altruistic.
Up in the deck, Frank and Jason are receiving news of Reyna. She says she and Malcolm were attacked by Lycaon and his pack - and that Malcolm had a vision about Orion, the giant meant to oppose the twin gods, heading towards the Hunters and the Amazons.
With Apollo and Artemis missing, it comes to them to help. Jason thinks they could try and help if they cross paths, but that they should inform them by IM and go on their way - they have little time to dawdle, even if they're using Malcolm's mother transport company to carry the giant statue.
They are able to rest for the remainder of the day - it's more or less eighteen hours before Reyna sends the next message - they met the hunters and the Amazon in the Lisbon's Harbor and fought Orion, but no god came to give him the final blow.
So Reyna and Hylla had to run - the statue was already shipped off to America, and nymphs were helping them to get to the Long Island Bay within the next two days. Malcolm wasn't so lucky.
Orion smashed Malcolm against a boulder, breaking his arm and a leg. As they fled, Malcolm told them to leave him behind - he would stall the giant for a little while.
With most Amazons and Hunters out of commission or dead, they had no other choice. The last thing Reyna saw was Orion raising Malcolm above his head, and the sickening crunch of it breaking against the sea rocks.
Will is the one on patrol - and the one who has to relay the news to Annabeth. He doesn't want to wake her, but it's her right to know - so he goes and wakes Perseus too, to help deliver the blow.
"Annie, I... We... We have bad news."
Annabeth screams - that was her big brother, almost her father. He taught her how to hold a shield and how to swim - he was her only family left on Camp.
It's unfair. That shouldn't be his battles anymore - he is twenty! She screams and she throws a statue of her mother - and that damned coin - into the wall. Then Annabeth sobs on Perseus' shirt.
"It's her fault Percy, all her fault if she didn't send us in this goose chase if she didn't choose Malcolm..."
Will solves to tell the others in the morning - it's late, and most of them had little to no sleep. He goes back on deck, but there's a storm brewing in the ocean - and it's not a natural one. It's some kind of deity - and that's not a good moment.
He goes to Perseus - he is still awake, asleep Annabeth with tear tracks in her cheeks and scrapped knuckles in his arms, and tells him about the situation - Will is not that good of a fighter.
"I'll deal with it. Stay with her. I'll be back shortly."
Will should be alarmed - with Perseus more recent behavior, the way he always hated the gods' trivial troubles, should he really be sending him upstairs, with an ax, a tiger, and a mad expression into his eyes? Maybe not, but he won't stop it. The deity chooses their own fate - even Will is done with their willful moods, compromising a much more important journey in their own name.
Let whoever it is burn - The son of Apollo covers the sleeping girl's ears softly. She doesn't need this kind of stress now.
The storm stops, but the screams in the deck don't - they are like music to his ears.

Akane Aoi x Hikari Minamoto:
STUPID CUPID
Tumblr media
For all his life, Akane Aoi found himself struggling. He struggled to gain the love of his childhood bestfriend, struggled in his balancing order between his life and responsibilities as vice-president of the student council and keeping his duties as School Mystery No. 1. As his first year of high school started, he thought that he had it all in check, until he met her. Hikari Minamoto. Their meeting was by chance, he bumped into her while she was walking out of the student council room. She quickly bowed, spewed out an apology and ran off before he could blink. At first he thought she was a brave fan of Teru's who came to bother him, but the thought was quickly crossed off his mind as Teru explained who the girl was.
"That was my little sister. She was just dropping me off my lunch that I forgot. Usually it's Kou, but he's busy with his own mission." Akane nodded, busying himself by filing some papers, sweating under Teru's intensive stare. After finishing his filing, Akane nodded at Teru before heading to the door.
"Aoi." His sharp voice made Akane stop.
"Please be good to my siblings, if you ever see them around."
"I will, President Minamoto." The redhead silently cursed the president in his mind.
It wasn't until a week later that Hikari and Akane made contact once again.
"Ao-chan! I'd like you to meet someone! She's interested in joining the Gardening club!" Nene pulled a familiar blonde in front of Aio's desk, one thing Akane noticed was that she was wearing a middle school uniform.
"P-pleased to meet your acquaintance! I'm Hikari M-Minamoto, a third year in t-the middle school division and I'd like to join the club, as Senpai just explained!" Her voiced was rather meek and she had a rather heavy blush on her cheeks. Aoi, who Akane was standing next to, clasped her hands excitedly, sparkles bloomed as she cutely titled her head and smiled.
"That's great to hear, Minamoto-san! I'm Aoi Akane, thank you for showing interest in the club! We really need new members!" Hikari rubbed her arm and gazed at the ground.
"Y-You can call me by my first name... I don't mind. It's just... it's just that I don't want any unwanted confusion or attention, so..." She trailed off, her eyes swirling with embarrassment.
"I see, then you can call me Ao-chan, Hikari-chan!" Akane tensed, pushing up his glasses.
"... to think she's already in nickname basis with Ao-chan..." His mutterings grabbed the girl's attention.
"Is something wrong, Akane-kun?" Aoi asked sweetly, to which Akane shook his head.
I must stay poised and collected in front of President Minamoto's siblings or I won't hear the end of it from him...
Akane respectfully bowed towards Hikari.
"Pleasure to meet you, Minamoto-kohai. I'm Akane Aoi, if you don't know, I work with President Minamoto. " Hikari immediately bowed in respect, hitting her forehead on the top of the desk.
"I'm incredibly sorry for bumping into you last week, Aoi-Senpai, I didn't even formally apologize! I'm so, so sorry! Please let me make it up to you in some way or another!" The first years jumped, not expecting the sudden outbursts.
"Minamoto-kohai! It's quite alright-"
"Uwah! Hikari-chan are you alright?!" Nene had her hand up to her mouth in horror. The young girl, straightened up, showing a rather painful bruise of her forehead. Tears were welling up in the corner of her eyes.
"I-I'm fine, Senpai!"
"But-but you're crying!" Hikari covered her face and turned away.
"It's just that... I'm so embarrassed! I made a fool of myself in front of the upperclassmen!" Aoi patted the younger girls sibling in the back rather comforting.
"It's okay, Hikari-chan! You were just nervous, but for now, let's take you to the nurses office and check the bruise out."
"A-Ah! It's fine, Ao-Senpai! I'm, I'm used to worse, so this is nothing!" Aoi's and Nene's face visibly darkened with worry.
"W-worse?"
"A-Anyways, umm... about the club..." Face brightening, Aoi picked up her bag.
"If you don't mind, we can introduce you to the gardens! You can see what type of plants you want to take care of and you can meet the others as well, but first we have to change out of uniforms so they don't get dirty! Did you have an extra set of clothes?" Hikari lifted her bag and nodded, gaining approval from Aoi.
"Then, let's get moving! See ya, Akane-kun!" Akane watched the girls leave before making his way down the garden, hiding in his usual spot where he was able to watch what was going on. It took a few minutes before the girls came outside. Aoi was wearing her cute white sunhat, a pink tshirt and discolored shorts. Akane watched the new member with eyes of a hawk. She was wearing a white long sleeved shirt, black track pants, and her hair was pulled into a ponytail, allowing a purple good-luck amulet piercing in her left ear. It looked rather delinquent-like on her, which as far as Akane could tell, was not much her style. Aoi left and Nene walked with Hikari, touring her around, and stopping in front of Akane.
"And this is the decorative plants we take care of..." Nene trailed of, seeing the horrified expression of her junior, looking at the bush and letting out a terrified yelp.
"A-Akane-kun?! What are you doing?!" Akane's face was popping out of the plant, his glasses hid his eyes, but he was smiling.
"Oh, Nene-san, I'm just watching over Ao-chan, that's all!" Nene nodded, pulling Hikari close.
"Forgive him, Hikari-chan! He has a condition!" Before an answer escaped her mouth, Hikari tensed and turned, feeling dread.
This feeling... is it an apparition? Not to mention, didn't Ao-senpai head over there!?
"Eh, Hikari-chan, everything alright?" Nene's question was answered with a familiar shriek, causing the trios eyes to widen.
"Ao-chan/Ao-senpai!"
Hikari was the one who ran first, the other following close behind. They reached the toolshed and Hikari held her hand, stopping the others.
If it's an apparition, my upperclassmen will be in danger!
"I-I will go in there, you guys stay here! I'll go check and see!" Nene and Akane couldn't stop her as she dashed inside the tool shed. Stepping inside, Hikari felt the presence of a spirit, but she spotted Aoi first and kneeled next to her. It seemed that she was just passed out, the shards of a broken pot, probably dropped in surprise, thankfully didn't reach the older girl. Hikari focused her attention on the corner across from her, where the dark aura came from. A shivering child was huddled in the corner, its arms around its legs and head buried between its knees.
"I don't know what past you've lived, but that gives you no right to harm a human, so... I must exorcise you." A child's voice spoke out.
"Mother and I... used to play in the gardens all the time... are you my mommy?" With furrowed brows, Hikari clenched her hand, a spear made of lighting molded within. She took aim and threw the spear towards the corner, a gentle light and clean breeze fell upon the toolshed.
May you find peace in the afterlife...
"Senpais! Akane-senpai has fainted!" Akane and Nene immediately rushed in, both looking disheveled.
"We should take Ao-chan to the nurses, Akane-kun!" Akane nodded with Nene and picked Aoi up.
"Sorry to cut the tour short, but..."
"D-don't worry, senpai!" Nene smiled brightly at the young exorcist.
"Thank you for helping, Hikari-chan!" Blushing, Hikari waved goodbye to her seniors before making her way home.
Stupid Cupid you're a real mean guy
I'd like to clip your wings so you can't fly
I'm in love and it's a crying shame
And I know that you're the one to blame
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
Ever since that day, Hikari began getting Akane's attention no matter where he went. It was only natural, after all, she saved his beloved Aoi. He would catch glimpses of her as he would walk the halls, or greet her whenever they made eye contact. He noticed details about her. Her eyes were always gentle no matter what, though she rarely talked, she had an energy that attracted people to her. And, another thing he noticed was that she would never judge others no matter what.
"Oh, hi, Aoi-senpai!" His hiding spot had been compromised once again. Akane sighed and crawled out the plant.
"How do you do, Minamoto-kohai?"
"I'm d-doing well... how... how about you?"
"I'm doing perfectly fine, Ao-chan is as bright as the sun, so everything is fine!" The girl giggled at his response, but quickly covered her mouth.
"Sorry... I wasn't laughing at you, I-I just think your affection for Ao-senpai is quite cute..." Akane shook his head, squatting next to her, watching as she dug up wholes in the soil to plant beans.
"It's alright." They stayed in silence, before Akane spoke out.
"What made you interested in the Gardening Club?"
"U-umm, I joined because... I just wanted to make my brothers jobs easier." Akane said nothing and stared at the girl, encouraging her to continue.
"W-Well, Teru-nii is always busy with student council work and keeping peace in the school. Kou takes care of the housework himself and won't let me help, so... I was thinking if I could at least plant veggies and fruits, I could make their life easier... plus just in case Tiara's interested in gardening, I could teach her..." Hikari's fond expression quickly turned into one of embarrassment.
"But now that I say it out loud it doesn't make any sense!" Akane huffed, fiddling with the red student council band on his arm.
"No, I think it's nice that you think about your siblings and the fact that you try to take care of them, it's admirable." Akane didn't know what went through his mind as the words spewed out of his mouth. Hikari stopped patting the dirt, her face turning redder than the tomatoes on a nearby vine, her eye were wide, but they didn't convey any negative emotion.
"I-I see, thank you... for thinking that..."
"Oh and Minamoto-kohai, you could call me by my first name, so that's in not confusing."
"Then you can call me by my f-first name too..."
"Alright, Hikari-san."
I can't do my homework and I can't think straight
I meet her every morning 'bout half past eight
I'm acting like a lovesick fool
You've even got me carrying your books to school
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
After their conversation in the garden, their usual greeting turned into full blown conversations with each other. It wasn't noticable, but they began getting closer. Hikari thought about her new friend most of the time, even though it distracted her from studying. Akane who used to hate having to collect files and papers from teachers of the middle school division, began enjoying his walks, seeing that as soon as Akane and Hikari made eye contact, Hikari would join him and help him on his quest (or so she liked to call it). It wasn't noticable to anyone, until Akane stopped confessing to Aoi everytime he saw her. He would still watch her with loving eyes, but Aoi noticed something was different with Akane. It was one morning, where Aoi's suspicions were confirmed. It was early in the morning, when Aoi stepped into the sunlit classroom, Akane was already there, ruffling through a pile of papers.
"Goodmorning, Akane-kun!" Aoi smiled at her childhood friend, who looked up with a bright smile.
"Ah! Goodmorning Ao-chan! You look as beautiful as always!" He then turned his attention to the papers in front of him. He didn't even notice her scrutinizing gaze, until she was literally in his face. He leaned away in slight shock.
"Something wrong, Ao-chan?" The indigo haired girl put a finger on her chin and hummed.
"I don't know how to put it, but Akane-kun, are you over me?" Akane tensed and blushed.
"O-Of course no-" The image of a smiling Hikari flashed in his head, causing him to stop mid sentence. The vivid image caused him to relive the memory. It was when the beans she planted finally sprouted out of the ground. She quickly called him over and showed him the accomplishment with proud smile, her usually gentle voice was filled with excitement.
"Look, Akane-senpai!"
"Akane-kun?" Akane snapped out of his trance, gazing at Aoi.
"Ao-chan, I still love you, but it's not the same love as before!" Aoi giggle, putting her hands behind her.
"Thought so! So do you like Hikari-chan?"
"Huh?! Ao-chan how did-"
"It was quite obvious Akane-kun! You're never to good at hiding your feelings if you like someone! Plus, I wouldn't be called your childhood friend if I didn't notice!" Akane sighed and rested his forehead on his arms.
"I see..."
Thank god President Minamoto hasn't noticed my change of behavior, yet... I can only imagine what he'll do to me!
Akane revisited memories of being tied up like an animal and shivered.
"Then, Akane-kun, what do you plan to do...?" Aoi's unanswered question stuck with him throughout the day. What was he going to do? It felt weird thinking of Hikari all the time instead of Aoi. His affections now differed, he wanted to stay the same with Aoi, but with Hikari it was different. It felt as if he'd been struck by a cupid's arrow, which made a warm feeling resonate within his chest. It wasn't until he stood in front of Hikari's classroom door afterschool, that he had the answer.
I want to ask her out!
The classroom door opened and out came a blonde boy, the thing the caught Akane's attention was the red traffic-safety amulet on the boys right ear.
"See ya, sis!" He ran off the opposite hallway from Akane and Hikari ran out of the classroom looking the way Kou ran off.
"W-wait Kou!" Kou was long gone by now, making her slump her shoulders in defeat.
"He forgot his spirit staff... and here he was boasting about taking down the school mysteries..."
"Hikari-san?" Surprised, the girl yelped before covering her mouth.
"Akane-senpai?!"
"U-um... about what you were talking about..." She tensed, before clenching her fists.
"C-can we go somewhere p-p-private..."
"Sure..." Akane followed Hikari up the roof and gulped as she stood in front of him with a bowed head.
"A-A-Actually... I've been putting off this confession for a long time... but can you promise me that no matter what... you won't look at me differently..." Akane stood paralyzed, with a heavy blush and without waiting for an answer, she took a deep breath.
C-Confession...?
"I-I'm actually an exorcist! I come from a lineage of exorcists, so I'm not the only one! My older brothers are also exorcists, t-that's why you heard me talk about supernaturals and all that gibberish..." A cold wind blew past Akane as comical tears ran down his cheeks.
A-Ah, that type of confession..
Quickly composing himself, Akane put his hands on her shoulder and looked into her eyes, which were full of uncertainty.
"Don't worry, Hikari-san, if anything, it makes my view of you grow positively!" He gave her a sweet smile, that made her feet go jelly.
"C-can I h-hug you..?" Akane didn't hesitate to give approval and he felt warm arms wrap themselves around his chest, her head was rested near his heart, which now, the redhead realized, was pounding rapidly.
"T-thank you, senpai!" Akane slowly wrapped his hands around her frame, pulling her closer, if that was possible.
I'm content with this...
You mixed me up for good right from the very start
Hey now, go play Robin Hood with somebody else's heart
About a few weeks later, Akane realized that he was not content with how the relationship was progressing. He managed to get a grip on himself and managed to not gush about the girl that kept his mind busy, seeing as he was scared that he would scare Hikari off. He tried to be sensitive, but like someone flipped a switch, he couldn't contain himself. He was tired of hiding his affections from the girl that deserved it the most. Making up his mind, he decided to confess to her, and told Aoi, who cheered him up. As he walked through the halls, ignoring the gossiping whispers of another supernatural at school, he planned on confessing the next time he sees her.
You got me jumping like a crazy clown
And I don't feature what you're putting down
It was lunch, when he saw her, but not in the exact situation he preferred. In fact it was the opposite of an ideal situation. He was walking, passing by an abandoned music classroom, when he heard a low piano note resonate, the sound of the door slamming open and someone being thrown against the wall followed the sound. Akane turned, horror on his face when he saw Hikari crumpled on the ground, cuts and bruises on her skin. She shakily picked her head up, reddish eyes clashing with blue eyes.
"A-Akane-senpai, get out of here! It's supernatural!" A black, gooey hand held the doorframe, and a shadow loomed over the girl, causing her to scramble back on her feet. A goey hand was raised, ready to strike, but gloved hand kept it in place.
"A-Akane-senpai...?" Hikari took in his appearance, his outfit had changed black and white suit, a pocket watch pinned on his chest. His hair had slighty gotten longer and a low ponytail swayed behind him. With a growl, Akane clenched his hand, breaking off the supernatural's hand off, getting the black substance on his face.
"You filth! Don't ever touch Hikari-chan with your dirty hands, ever again!" With his other hand, Akane stabbed through the supernatural's main body, making it go limp before dissolving into this air.
"Akane-senpai... you're a school mystery?" Akane turned his attention to the girl and gave her a closed eye smile.
"Yeah, sorry for keeping it a secret from you... but more importantly, are you okay?" He took her face into his hands, rubbing his thumbs over her cheeks in a gentle and loving manner. His red eyes gleamed with adoration.
"We need to take you to the nurse's, don't bother resisting, it's best if your brothers find out." He took her wrist and began pulling her along, stopping when he felt her other hand tugging on his white vest.
"Thank you for saving me Akane-senpai..." Blue eyes were filled with warmth and the genuine smile dancing on her lips made Akane snap.
Well since I kissed her loving lips of wine
The thing that bothers me is that I like it fine
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
With a hand under her chin, he gently pulled her chin up, closing his eyes, he leaned in and pressed his lips onto hers. Hikari tensed into the sweet kiss, before relaxing and softly pressing her lips back. A small smile sneaked its way on Akane's face through the kiss, before the two pulled away and looked at each other's eyes.
"If it's you, I wouldn't mind have to save you no matter how many times it is... "A moment of silence was shared between the two, as Hikari slid her hand into his and he wasted no time to gently grip it into a secure hold. Akane stroked her cheek once more, and pressed his forehead upon hers. He realized that for once, he felt at peace. Hikari squeezed his hand.
"After all, I love you more than anything else in this world..."
You got me jumping like a crazy clown
And I don't feature what you're putting down
Well since I kissed his loving lips of wine
The thing that bothers me is that I like it fine
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
Hikari remembered when she realized she was in love with Akane. It had been a few weeks ago, she had complained about not having enough fertilizer for the soil, and the very next day, Akane showed up to the Gardening Club with a wheelbarrow full of it. It was a grand and sweet gesture, and just the memory of it let a few giggles escape from her mouth.
"Akane-kun, I love you too."
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
I hope you like it and I'm sorry if any characters seem OOC! Also apologies for any editing mistakes!

A drpepperony proposal/wedding please? im thinking if you go with the wedding that would be more symbolic since u legally can't have 3 but it would be cute to see them exchanging their own vows and ring/other jewelry privately with their closest friends and family and 'making it official' ofc stephen would get overwhelmed by the love from his partners and his new family 💖
Hi, anon! I’m sorry this didn’t turn out to be a traditional serious “official” ceremony, with friends and family and vows, etc…but I still hope you enjoy reading!
I have no idea how to describe wedding dresses, feel free to come up with your own design 😆 Feel free to think up the music they used for the dance, too, because otherwise the whole montage plays out in my head to this song.
[obnoxious note, 8/24/2019: NOT ACCEPTING NEW PROMPTS AT THE MOMENT. Thank you for understanding 💕]
Let’s Get Married
Tony had wanted to go to Vegas.
Pepper had no specific ideas, but made it clear she thought Vegas was a shitty idea.
As the two of them argued, Stephen realized it was best that he decide for the three of them. But when they were all relatively mellow and fuzzy from what Tony simply called “alien juice,” Stephen included, getting one’s thoughts together wasn’t easy.
(Tony’s fault: he’d been wanting to celebrate their third year of being together as a trio. “Three’s our lucky number, right?” And he really, really wanted to do it with alcohol.
(Stephen, being the doctor, and Pepper, being the most sensible of them all, put their feet down and told him alcohol was off the table.
(Still, Tony insisted on having something. So it was up to Stephen to get creative. And bum some “alien juice” off an absolutely-legal-you-can’t-prove-it’s-not apothecary he met in another dimension.
(It was a liquid that mimicked the effects of alcohol - including, at times, memory loss the morning after - but did not damage the human liver or caused hangovers.
(Stephen had to get creative more than once that night, it seemed...)
Fortunately, one side effect of the liquid they’d imbibed was a freer mental state, so he was able to access the necessary information from his mind palace without trouble.
There was a dimension where there were no fauna at all - only flora, of different hues and shapes.
Some of the plant life took on the form and behaviors of animals; there would be butterflies made of translucent leaves. Birds made of tiny flowerheads that fluttered in the perpetual breeze.
And there was color. So much color. It was always daytime in that dimension, and soft light always shone, casting rainbows as shadows and making everything shimmer.
There was a large cavern the size of a concert hall. Instead of a roof, what it had was a long, wide tunnel opening up to ground level, lined with vines and a magnificent, pleasantly fragrant assortment of living flowers.
For a while now, Stephen had been planning to take Pepper and Tony there.
It was the perfect place for a wedding.
***
“Oh, Stephen,” Pepper gasped, “this is beautiful.”
While Pepper was busy taking in the new environment, Tony glared at his boyfriend. “And you never took us here before why?”
“I was saving it,” Stephen huffed. “For a special occasion or something, Iunno.” He was still rather tipsy. Though, he liked to tell himself, not as tipsy as the other two.
“This occasion is plenty special, isn’t it?” Tony argued. “So can you, like…magic up some nice clothes for us? I suddenly feel a little underdressed, with my jeans and my Hello Kitty shirt.”
They were a bit underdressed, Stephen acknowledged. They were all in casual wear, for a simple night out on the town, armed with a formidable supply of “alien juice” and the intent to have fun.
Getting married was a spur of the moment thing. And they were laughing as they all agreed to it, so Stephen wasn’t all that sure they were serious.
But damned if he wasn’t going to milk this moment for all it had.
“Okay, okay.” He cleared his throat. Made a few hand motions that he knew to be a bit overdramatic…
And in the blink of an eye, Tony was in a posh, classic tuxedo. So was Stephen.
The latter’s outfit was just a little flashier, with the Cloak of Levitation hanging down the back of his shoulders, disguised as a red cape (it had been disguised as a red scarf earlier that evening. Stylish either way).
But Pepper…Pepper was in something that made her look like a dream.
It was a proper white wedding dress, sans the traditional veil. It seemed to be made of diamonds and lace, but on closer inspection was made of satin petals and frozen dew: a perfect blend with the delicate scenery.
Stephen was fascinated. He hadn’t had a specific kind of dress in mind, but he figured his altered mental state had something to do with how it turned out.
That is, some part of him must have always wanted to see Pepper dressed like this.
Pepper could hardly believe it, herself. She turned this way and that, admiring how smoothly the dress flowed around and against her.
“Look at this!” she cried, when she’d caught her breath. “I’m fricking gorgeous!”
“Yes, you fricking are,” Tony immediately agreed, stepping up to her and taking her by the hand.
Beaming, she held out her other hand to Stephen, who took it without hesitation.
“So, we getting married now?” she asked.
Stephen tipsily stammered, “I forgot to ask what demoni–dinom–dinimation–”
“The fastest,” Tony snapped. “C’mon, can’t keep the nuptial bed waiting!”
Stephen had to laugh at that first. Then he took Tony’s hand so the three of them formed a circle.
He closed his eyes. Their hands started to glow. When he opened his eyes again the glow disappeared, and there were simple gold bands on their left ring fingers.
Tony and Pepper held their hands up to the light, marveling at how the low light struck off the magic metal and seemed to make it glow.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” Tony exclaimed. He turned to Stephen, then to Pepper. “I do, I do, now we’re married, let’s go home.”
“Wait,” Pepper interrupted. “Can’t we stay here just a little bit longer? I really like this place.”
“We should at least stick around for a bridal dance,” Stephen suggested. “If you guys are up for that.”
Tony grinned. He really wasn’t as eager to go home as he had been saying, and Stephen could tell the romantic setting was getting under his skin, too.
“Fine,” he declared, “one dance. Each. Cue the Iron Maiden, if you please.”
Stephen grunted. Indeed. He had other music in mind.
From nowhere, the sound of string instruments drifted in, echoed softly in the cavern. It seemed to disturb some of the butterflies and birds that nested in the vines; they fluttered about listlessly.
Tony laid his hands on Pepper’s waist. Pepper threw her arms around his neck.
And they danced.
So lost in each other’s eyes they were, that they didn’t notice until several steps in: they had been dancing upwards.
Rising up the tunnel that ended in a majestic view of the sapphire sky.
Soon, buoyed up by the Cloak, Stephen joined them in the air, a self-satisfied twinkle in his eyes. Tony gently broke away from Pepper and grabbed him by the waist, pulled him close.
“My beautiful madman,” he said softly.
They managed to waltz a few steps, then Tony leaned up for a kiss, and Stephen promptly melted into it.
After a while he felt Pepper’s hands on his own, where they lay on Tony’s shoulders. At this signal, Tony pulled away, and Stephen drifted into Pepper’s arms.
They laughed, they fell into thoughtful silences, they kissed, they changed partners, they somehow managed to find a way to dance together, all three at once, and they kissed even more. Song after song after song played, with the flowers they were surrounded with swaying in the endless wind, and sunlight making everything around them shine.
***
Floating in a glimmering cavern, holding both his loved ones close, Stephen had never been more in love than he was then.
This whole affair might have been done on a whim. For the rush. For the pure joy of living in the moment.
The after-effects of the “alien juice” were harmless, but upredictable. In the morning, one or two or all three of them might wake up in their shared bed wondering why they had rings on, what the heck happened the night prior.
But Stephen didn’t care. And he was quite sure Tony and Pepper didn’t, either. They would keep the rings. Cherish whatever memories would remain of the evening.
And maybe someday, they would come back to this place, with friends and family to witness a more formal event.
This was, as far as Stephen was concerned, a long time coming…
And definitely a much better idea than Vegas.

TIME (ONEUS FANTASY AU)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amber's POV
I am falling, I am falling. What do I do? I closed my eyes and covered my ears due to fear. I peeked and a colorful blinding light met my sight. I opened my eyes and looked up, the hole from above is gone.
"Why? Just why? How will I escape now?"
Slowly losing hope, I closed my eyes and let my body fall freely. Maybe this is the end? What sins did I commit to experience this? When will I stop falling? The wind is becoming stronger and I feel that I am falling faster now. I am ready to die. I'm sorry my brother, my mom. A tear escaped my eye and I fell onto something hard and died.
I opened my eyes and I am surrounded by trees in which the leaves are in rainbow color, pastels and black.
"Oh, I didn't die. I thought that was the end."
In front of me is a huge wooden gate covered with vines. I stood up and went closer to the gate, there is a keyhole in it, but where's the key? I looked around to my surroundings but it seems that there is no other way out.
"Ouch! What the fu-" Something hard fell onto my head causing me to flinch and rub my head. I looked above to see if there's anyone but found none.
"What was that?!"
When I looked down, I found a key with an emerald stone on it and picked it up.
"Woah— this is kinda heavy for a normal key,"
"Maybe this is it? Hmm."
I inserted the key and twisted it.

Looks like luck is on my side today! I quickly withdraw the key and entered the gate without hesitation.
"It's so bright in here, I can't see anything." And with that I heard the gate shut. This is bad.
I turned around and tried pulling the gate but it doesn't budge. What am I gonna do now? I let out a heavy sigh.
"I am now trapped! My, my! Hmmp!" Angrily, I stomped on my way to the forest of which I wasn't familiar with. There were fruits I haven't seen or heard of but as much as I want to take and eat those, I'm afraid I won't make it 'til tomorrow.
As I am walking I feel like someone is following me and it stopped me for a second before I continue my journey to find the way out of this weird forest. My eyes wandered while I am walking, and I must say, even if the trees don't look normal to me, the place is beautiful and serene but not until I heard a loud growl.
"EEEH!?" A large white wolf with red eyes and blue fangs lunged in front of me causing me to jump and drop the key I was holding.
"Please don't come any closer!" I took a step back.
growl.
The large wolf stepped forward and onto the key.
"Little miss riding hood, what are you doing in this dangerous forest?"
"Perhaps, you want to be a dinner to the animal in front of you."
"I'm not little and I am not red riding hood! Wait— you can talk?!"
"Of course I do and I didn't say red, you're wearing plum! Why do you have the key to the front gate?"
I looked to my clothes and it was indeed plum and just like red riding hood's. I thought I'm still wearing my pyjamas, heck!
"I don't know either! It just fell out of nowhere!"
"Liar," the wolf growled loudly.
Suddenly, the wolf glowed and transfromed into a human. He picked up the key and shoved it into his pocket.
"What are you?!"
"Why should I tell you?" He snickered and walked closer.
"Don't answer my question with another question!" I took a step back.
"Aww, come on! I don't bite!"
"I don't believe you."
"Then don't."
"What are you, really?"
"No, what are YOU? Why are you here? How did you get into this forest? When did you came and where are you from?"
"Woah— did you just use all the WH questions?"
"Oh, what am I asking, I won't tell you until you give that key back."
"I will give the key if you answer all my questions. It's a promise."
"Fine. I am a human, I don't know how did I end up here, I just fell from a hole and poof! I'm transported in front of a huge gate. And I am from Earth, unlike you!"
"Earth? Of course, we're on Earth!" He shook his head while my jaw dropped from the information.
"You mean, you're from the mortal realm? Then you don't have any supernatural powers? You'll die here! You won't survive!" He handed back the key to me just as he promised.
"And I don't bite humans! Yikes!" He cringed and rolled his eyes.
"Wow, how nice of you, but atleast I won't be some dinner. Thanks! And what are you?"
"I'm a shapeshifter. And my name is Keonhee."
"Oh, I see."
"Is that all the reaction you've got?"
"What do you want me to say? Oh wow! You're a shapeshifter, cool! Can you transform into a worm for me? "
He rolled his eyes and flicked my forehead.
"Ow! It hurts!" I rubbed my forehead and glared at him.
"Tell me your name, human."
"I'm Amber."
"Nice to meet you, Amber."
"Well, nice meeting you too Mr. Shapeshifter but I need to hurry and get out of this place." I bowed to him before walking away.
"Wait for me! It's dangerous for a human to walk alone, there are lots of trickster creatures here!" Keonhee ran to my side and stopped me. Then, he transformed into a great lion in a snap. "You might get lost and be trapped here, forever. Now, go climb to my back and I'll take you there."
"Why are you helping me?" I said as I was climbing onto is back and gripping on his hair tightly. Once I settled down on a safe position he started running fast.
"I'm not bad, you know. That was just for a show," he laughed before adding, "I need to know your intentions, good or bad. So that I can help you or kill you, right there, at that moment."
"Sounds scary." He laughed at my comment.
"So, are we friends now? I mean, you're helping me and all."
"If that's how you call it."
"Woah! You're pretty friendly! I really thought you're cruel and harsh."
"I'm not as bad as you think."
"By the way, perhaps you can tell me the way out?"
"We just need to go straight ahead, then I'll drop you off near the pond, after crossing the lake someone will lead you the way out of the forest."
"Sounds easy."
"Not really." He laughed before continuing, "Let's fasten our pace before the sunset."
"Isn't it still early?"
"No... The time here flies so fast that you won't even notice that the sun is setting down."
"Woah, woah— hold on, you mean it's afternoon already?" What a strange place, I thought. And it kinda scares me.
He roared as an answer to my question.
"Don't worry, we're near the lake."
After several minutes, we have reached the lake and it's now his cue to leave. I jumped down from his back while he transformed back into human appearance.
"Thank you so much for leading the way, I could have been lost without your help."
"You're welcome and I'm sorry I can't go any further."
"No no no, it's okay. You have been much of a help, Keonhee. Thank you!"
"I'll get going now, until we meet again, Amber."
"Goodbye, Mister Shapeshifter the great." I waved at him.
He waved back and smiled before transforming into a butterfly and flew to the opposite way. This is it, I'm getting out of this place!
I walked further and reached boundary of the land. I looked for something I can use to cross the lake or something a I can step on so that I don't have to get my clothes wet, yet there is none. Neither slabs of rock are scattered on the lake. Desperate, I tried to dip my foot only to be stopped.
"What do you think you are doing?" A deep voice spoke from behind which sent shivers on my body.
I turned around to see the owner of the voice and said, "I was just trying to cross the lake, I'm sorry if I did anything wrong." I met a young man with a very attractive, beautiful yet masculine facial features, standing tall and dressed like a prince in white meters away from me. (see his concept photos wearing white)
"Who are you?" His eyes are beautiful but it is staring right at mine like looking straight to my soul.
"The name's Amber, Your Highness."
"Intruding my territory without any permission, a rude stranger, I see."
"Your Highness, you misunderstood my intentions." I suddenly became nervous and my heart is beating crazily, his accusation is wrong! "I didn't know that someone owns the lake so I tried to cross it and find the way out of this forest."
"I didn't ask you to explain, did I?" He walked towards me with an unreadable expression on his face.
"I'm s-sorry." I said as I looked down from embarassment. "Do you know who I am?" I shook my head as an answer while keeping my head dow. "That is a sign of disrespect, look at me when I am talking to you, " He lifted my chin and made me look at his beautiful face. "Much better."
"Do you know who I am?" I'm afraid to answer his question, I don't even know where am I. He might get angry at me if he doesn't like the way I answered.
"F-forgive me but I am new to this place." He smirked at my answer before raising his brow. "You should have gathered information before setting foot onto my place."
"I am Xion, the water god and the keeper of this lake," His voice is laced with confidence and authority as he introduced himself. But what shocked me are his next words, "and I know who you are, human— or should I say, Amber?" stunned, I can't think of anything to say nor forgot how to breathe. How did he know?
"You're curious, aren't you? I'm a water god, I can see right through everything. I know what you are up to and what you want to do. I can see that you have clean intention and a pure heart. But you must not let your guard down. It may lead you to danger."
"Your Highness, I need to get back home sooner. I was told to cross the lake first and after, someone will guide me the way out." I am not nervous anymore and did not stutter while explaining in calm manner.
"And that is me. But you need to answer 3 riddles before I let you cross the lake."
"Sure, Your Highness."
"First riddle: I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?"
"Speak without mouth, hear without ears, doesn't have body but comes alive with wind. What could it be? Hmm." I sighed as I think for the answer. What doesn't have body but can speak and hear? Think Amber, think!
"It's just the first riddle, right? But why is is so difficult already?" He laughed at my comment, "Don't take it literally."
Right! I almost forgot about it, "I come alive with wind." Wind is the key! It must be an inanimate object for it to come alive with wind. "Let me give you a hint, what do you throw but goes back to you?"
"Boomerang?" He laughed and rolled his eyes on my answer, "Wrong, boomerang doesn't speak, you only have one chance left to answer, and I must say, you're bad at riddles."
"What do you throw but goes back to you that speaks without mouth, hear without words that comes alive in wind? What kind of-" before I could finish my sentence I realized something, when you're standing on a mountain if you shout 'yes' it will shout back 'yes' out of nowhere. It will speak without mouth and hear what you shouted without having ears. I get it! What you throw isn't a real object, it could be words! My eyes went wide realizing the answer.
"Echo is the answer." I smiled at him.
"Took you long enough for the first question."
"I'm not good at these things!" We both laughed as I spoke the truth, the only thing I am good at is working hard.
"Next riddle: What word in the English language does the following: the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four letters signify a great, while the entire world signifies a great woman. What is the word?"
"Can you repeat?"
He sighed before doing so, "What word in the English language does the following: the first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four letters signify a great, while the entire world signifies a great woman. What is the word?" I hummed as I think of an answer, this riddle is confusing!
"What two-letter word signifies a male? He. The first three letters signify a female, but what do you add to he to make it signify a female? Hmm—oh letter R! Then it will make the word 'Her'. But what signifies a great that starts with 'her'?" I squinted my eyes as I think.
"He-, her-, hero? Great hero?"
"Wow, this time you're fast. I should have given another riddle." He said in a joking manner and laughed.
"That's mean! Don't distract me from thinking! I might lose my concentration!" He shook his head before nodding.
"Now, what makes a great woman? He-Her-Hero. If the great is hero, then the great woman is the female counterpart of a hero! The answer is Heroine!" He smiled at me meaning my answer is correct.
"The last riddle: What is seen in the middle of March and April that can’t be seen at the beginning or end of either month?" I knitted my brows and he smiled at me thinking I am confused but no but his smile turned into a confused one when I laughed.
"Oh no, not that one! Hahaha! I know the answer to that! You know, I have a brother who likes to ask useless and weird questions out of the blue and it was hilarious!" I can barely contain my laugh as I remembered my brother asking me this question—wait, what does my brother look like again? It made me stop laughing. I tried remembering his face but I can't.
"What's wrong? You suddenly became serious."
"I told you I have a brother, right? I forgot how does he look like just now and I can't remember his face even his name." I said, my voice has hint of sadness. He was about to speak when I cut him off, "It's okay, maybe later I will remember his face and name again." I said with a sad smile and he smiled back.
"So what's your answer?"
"The answer is letter 'R'." I said firmly and he nodded.
"Well, you got everything correct and as said on the condition, you can now cross the lake." He smiled and was transported to the opposite of the land. Suddenly, huge slabs of crystals appeared one by one from the lake and formed a straight path towards the opposite land. I carefully made my way to avoid falling to the water. When I reached the other side of the lake, Xion offered his hand to be a support so I won't slip. "Let's go, before the sky gets dark. Hurry."
He held my hand and led the way. Once we reached the end of the forest, he let go of my hand and light glowed from his hand. When the light disappeared, he is now holding a sling bag like the ones in medieval period and a key with blue stones on top of it. Xion handed it to me and I accepted it with a smile. "Thank you!"
"Inside that bag is a purse with several cents inside. It is enough for you to survive few days to your next destination. And that key, you must keep it after."
"Thank you, Your Highness. Until we meet again."
"Goodbye, Amber." with that, he disappeared in a blink of an eye. I went over to the gate and inserted the key. The stone turned into a shade of emerald and the the gate opened. As Xion said, I took the key and kept it inside the bag alongside with the key I have earlier.
"As of now I have two keys with me, but what am I supposed to do with both?" I entered the gate without any hesitation.

You don't remember dying.
You're dead, and you don't remember dying.
Perhaps, in another life, you once thought that death accompanied a special feeling: life flashing before your eyes, lights out, everything over before your last breath escapes your lungs. But this is... this is slow. So slow. You're still on earth. Floating.. somewhere. Nowhere else. You see the world, all of it. Stars twinkle in the mist. The world around you is gray and dark. You watch your home fall apart. Every crack and shake is in full detail, and, dimly, you watch the sprouting of vines and weeds in its place. The weeds brush heads as they cluster your old house, your old neighborhood, your old country, your old everything.
You're old.
Breathless doesn't begin to describe it. You don't have lungs. You don't have... you don't. You just don't. You are nowhere. You are nothing. You don't exist.
Someone waves inside of you.
What the—
"Hello, Soul One-Hundred Thirty-Three Billion, Seventy-Five Million and Sixty-Five. You're late."
An NYC accent? You're from—
"Now that's a mouthful. I'll just call you Rosebud. See, you were supposed to cross over..." A watch ticks inside your... your form? You? "...millennia ago. Five millennia, in fact."
The voice throws a powder on you. Something blooms inside you, and you fall to the ground.
You gasp—holy shit, you can gasp. You move your head around. Ohmygodohmygodohmygod, you have muscles, you have form, you can move. You exist.
The voice has a form, too. He looks like you: human. Flaming blue hair, khaki-colored skin with reddish-pink polka dots and marks. He wears modern clothes: a bright yellow vest and green pants. And glowing. He's like a painting. Human, kinda.
You gape at him. This doesn't exist. This can't exist. You thought you'd be nothing forever. But now you're something and that's something and the world around you is still murky but it's something and oh my God. Oh my fucking God. What happened to you? What happened to your home? Why aren't you dead?
The form smiles at you. "Be careful with mentioning the Master Creator so much. They're listening, y'know. They can tell when you're talking about Them."
He offers you a hand. Shaking, you take it. You wobble so hard you grab his shoulder, and he pats your wrist.
"Relax, Rosebud, we're gonna go up now. Take my hands." Gently, he takes your hand off his shoulder and interlocks your fingers together. You close your eyes as he pulls you close.
Once you open them, you're no longer on Earth.
You're in an office.
Vaguely relaxing piano music plays in the background. The walls gleam "eggshell white" (whatever that means), and copy-and-paste potted plants commiserate in corners, on shelves, and on top of desks. Rows and rows of cubicles line up in front of you, complete with ancient computers, loud clicking, and early morning groans of "I need more coffee, for fu- fun's sake!" A vending machine and a water cooler stand behind you, with banged-up tables interspersed between those.
Someone rises out of a cubicle. His skin is pale, but his hair is dark. "Reaper Honoret Jr.! Is that—oh my goodness, is that the stray? You did it! It took a few millennia, but you did it!"
Honoret Jr. grimaces. "My bad, Dad. The soul blended in so well, it took me a while... my readings showed complete neutrality. It's like there's no one there." The reaper looked back at you. "I only caught a flicker. Right now, I can't—"
His dad chuckles. "Not Dad. It's Reaper Honoret Sr. to you." He winks. "I'm kidding, y'know how they get around here."
He comes forward and wraps his arms around the boy, then unlatches. Without Honoret Jr's support, you fall to the ground, so you watch as he holds his son's shoulders. "Your bad? What do you mean? I'm proud of you. So, so proud. You're the only one who could even—actually, wait."
He turns to face the cubicles. "Reapers of Thanatos & Co., guess who just caught the stray!"
The clicking stops.
Someone coughs. "You're joking, right?"
"Absolutely not. In fact, it's behind me, right now."
Chairs scoot on scratchy carpet as the reapers of Thanatos & Co. nearly jump out of their cubicles to see you. Forty reapers dressed in some manner of business attire speed walk in your direction. One pushes Honoret Jr. out of the way—his dad has to catch him before he falls on his face.
When they see you, they stop. They start staring at the air around you. They sniff like blood hounds.
After a pause, a reaper with large eyebrows turns to another, eyes wide. "I think... I can't... I literally..."
The other nods. "Same here. Reaper Honoret Sr. isn't lying."
The crowd murmurs in agreement.
A reaper with short pink hair raises his hand. When no one calls on him, he puts it down and mutters something about being new. "Wait, if Reaper Honoret Sr. found the stray, shouldn't we tell the Grand Reaper about it first?"
Once more, the crowd murmurs in agreement.
The eyebrow reaper stares at you—no, not at you. Into you. Like you're not even there. "Before that, we need to know who found it. Reaper Honoret Sr., did you find it? We need someone to congratulate."
He grins. "Nope! My son did." He shook his boy's shoulders.
The reaper raises a brow, then gives the blue-haired reaper a look. "Oh. Well, uhm, congratulations."
The crowd weakly claps. Good job... mhm... congratulations, Junior... and then they disperse back into their leather spin chairs.
Honoret Jr. turns to you and makes a face. "Sorry about that. Office drama. Can't escape it, even in this world."
He doesn't look like a reaper to you. No black cloak, no creepy aura, no skeleton fingers. Kind, colorful, couldn't be a reaper. Nope. Impossible. None of this is.
"You're not believing a lot of things, I know. The first few days are the hardest." He gifts you with another smile. "You'll get there, I promise. I'm here to help.
"Name's Edwin, by the way. You've been calling me Honoret Jr. and that just gives me middle school flashbacks. No thanks."
You can't even make a proper facial expression to react to that. You can't formulate words—or even walk without Edwin holding your hand. He's reading your thoughts, at least. You're basically a vegetable.
He shrugs. "Give it a few hours, Rosebud. The vegetable'll wear off. Your body's just adjusting to this plane. No shame."
You can't speak, so you just think of the word: thanks. My name is—
"Oh, I know what your name is. I've been searching for you for five millennia. I'd be a horrible reaper if I didn't know."
He extends a hand. "Speaking of vegetable and horrible reaper, I bet you're hungry. You're also naked. Let's fix that."
-
Reapers need to eat, surprisingly. Edwin leads you through a myriad of hallways with the exact same paintings and potted plants (this is disgustingly easy to get lost in, you think. Edwin agrees) until you reach the break room. It takes you an hour.
No one's in there except you two. Edwin gave you some of his clothes (kept in another room), so you're wearing a red fit with a black vest and a lime green beanie. He tried to offer his matching ski mask, but you managed to mentally shout "No!" before he put it away. You don't mind wearing his stuff, but you wonder what that could imply. Do reapers...? Actually, you don't wanna think about that.
The break room curves up into a sparkling, plastic chandelier. The rest of the room accommodates a fridge plastered in posters, a microwave, and a dirty coffee maker paired with beige countertops. A pile of paper plates and utensils decorates the left countertop, while a sink occupies the right end. Island tables take up the rest of the center, leaving room for vending machines in the back.
Edwin scrunches his nose. "Who's bummy ass forgot to wash the coffee pot? Ew." He examines it, then starts washing the dishes.
He looks back at you. "You can go raid the fridge. Just don't touch the lunch boxes or uh—bento boxes, I think. Those are Reaper Porter's, and he will get very mad if you touch his bento. I did that once, so he threw a fork at me then said I messed with his feng shui."
Edwin mutters something about unseasoned chicken as he continues scrubbing coffee stains.
You stand up. Your walk is wobbly at best, and you feel like a pile of jello—you're weak in the knees, like jello. But you're getting there. Its better than before. At some point in your hour-long journey to the break room, poor Edwin had to carry you. You felt bad, but at least he's strong. Maybe it's a reaper thing.
You stumble to the fridge. Posters and dates and schedules cover the surface, but you brush past them to find what truly matters: the food.
Reaper office food tastes just as bland as human office food. How sad.
You find that your body works just like it used to. You're hungry, you can feel pain, and you're starting to move. It's like you never died. And now you're in a huge office full of slightly-glowy people who call themselves Reapers and also can't sense you, which is a concept you still don't understand. Or maybe you didn't die? Maybe someone stirred some LSD in your drink? And this is all... a major... acid... trip...
You blink, then pinch yourself. Nope. You're 'swell.
Edwin pulls out a chair. "Now that we're done with the basics, Rosebud, we need to get you registered. You're a bit of a weird case, but you're not too too special. Just uncommon."
He pauses. "Well, actually, you might be a little more special than that. Just a tad."
You give him a look. Something builds in your throat.
"What the fuck?"
He giggles. "Those are your first words on this plane? I—"
"No, seriously. What. The. Fuck." You sound like a cheese grater but you don't care. "I literally have no idea what's going on. I died, I think, then I watched mankind die too as the Earth turned into dandelions, then you went inside of me and threw some pixie dust to make me come back again, suddenly I'm in a 90s sitcom office and I'm naked which literally no one told me about until everyone else saw me as bare as the day I was born and—"
Edwin pats your hand. "All right, all right, let it out, let it out. I'll explain everything. It's just really long." He rubs the back of his neck. "And we're kinda on a time crunch here."
"A time crunch. When it took us an hour just to get a snack."
"Yes, a time crunch. We have about two more hours to get you registered before you become tied to this plane. Then you'll have to become a reaper, like me, and you don't wanna become a reaper." He bites deeply into his peanut butter and banana sandwich. "Shit's hard."
"I can't even—"
"Mhm." He says through a mouthful of peanut butter. "I'm rellay sorreh you're goineh frough thif. I geh how you feel. Eferyone dehs."
He swallows. "We all started out alive. No one's been here since the beginning. Except for some of the seraphim, I guess. But the rest of us? We just humans the Master Creator decided to gift. You're not alone in this. I went through the same bullshit as you. I get it."
You bow your head down. Your thoughts are too jumbled to feel actual anger. "Thanks, Edwin."
"You honestly deserve better, but no problem." He stands up and wipes his hands on a napkin. "Imma clean up after myself, so you can get a head start. We do only have two hours." He yanks you out of the chair. Still chewing, you watch as Edwin shoves you out the break room.
"Wait—hold up—wh—I don't know where I'm supposed to—"
He grins. "You will! Your senses will guide you."
"What— more vague shi—" and the door slams.
