what your paladins main says about you
a comprehensive essay by a paladins player of right around 4 years
this is like really long so i’ll make it under the cut so my followers don’t have to scroll through this if they don’t wanna
(for context i’m a current maeve main, i used to main skye and sha lin and played tyra a long while ago)
.
Androxus
it’s not a phase, mum
“i don’t care we don’t have healer, i’m really good at him i swear”
you ult every time it loads in and you die before the final shot
your favorite mode is siege because you can fly up and shoot the whole point on ult
you’re usually really stand-offish and don’t communicate much and/or a 13 year old boy with anger issues
.
Ash
you are level-headed but in a scary way
you will hold the point solo even if it costs you your streak
“get on the point” “guys get on the point” “attack the objective”
you’ll ult to save yourself 99% of the time
good leader
.
Atlas
you probably used to main lex or androxus before he came out
“he’s like a flank, but a tank, he’s great!”
you chase after solo kills instead of sticking to the point
healers hate you, flanks and damages fear you
your favorite mode is death match
.
Barik
you’re a former/current tf2 player looking for something fresh
you don’t like working too hard so you spam turrets on the point and hope for the best
“healer stick to me i’m boutta ult”
actually really nice between rounds
but you don’t communicate much mid-game and kind of do your thing
.
Bomb King
you’re a really old player. you have the beta makoa skin and you were there when lex was first released. veteran’s discount.
your favorite maps are the old ones and they barely show up any more
the team always underestimates you
“who plays bomb king in 2021 lol?”
you need a hug
.
Buck
“wait, he’s a flank? i thought he was a tank??”
you’re also a veteran in the game
you’re a dying breed. i like never see you. do you even exist?
you’ve been here since like the first day of the game
buck gets so many skins and you want all of them but the best you have is a random recolor
.
Cassie
sweetest person alive
“we can do it guys! let’s try to all rush the point this time!”
you are the bane of every flank
the opposing team hates you, your own team kind of doesn’t notice you’re there
*casually gets a pentakill*
.
Corvus
you know those weirdly political kids who like ww2 and know the details of every tank to ever exist? yeah that’s you
but like that’s corvus. as a character.
but no one ever plays him.
like i never even see him do you exist???
you are a cryptid.
.
Dredge
yo ho you’re a hoe
no seriously the other team views you and they FEAR you
“yeah i just got a penta kill” “YOU WHAT?” “eyes on the point mate don’t get distracted”
hella good at the game and hella casual about it
you like onslaught on the one sea map the most
.
Drogoz
another veteran, are we?
you’re either useless or can wipe out a whole team in seconds. there is no in-between.
you always have a really cool skin.
dovahkiin, dovahkiin...
“i don’t care about the point i gotta get them trips”
.
Evie
you bought her because you thought she was cute, admit it
*turns into ice right before dying* *turns into ice right before dying* *turns into ice right be
your personality type is identical to her. no question about that.
always buys faster reload and better speed
strangely good communication with the team
.
Fernando
gay gay homosexual gay
“he’s kinda hot if you look at him the right way”
fernando is the tank for gay people
you are gay people
i don’t have much more to say
.
Furia
mum energy. not as much as inara mains, but still, mum energy.
will protect every member of the team with your life, even the flanks
you’ve been maining her since she was first added
i bet you didn’t even know she’s canonically seris’ sister
“we’ve literally failed to capture the point the last 3 times we might as well give up and go to another game”
.
Grohk
“yeah i have a gremlincore tumblr blog, how could you tell?”
i honestly have no words
you’re kind of like a catboy but a racoon
do you even heal the team or do you just pretend
you were there when lex got announced and thought he was cringe, now everyone finally agrees with you
.
Grover
he was your first purchased character and he’s stuck around ever since
he’s the only healer you can play well
“i am groot lmao”
you would never say a word to your team
would give your life for the tank but that’s about it
.
Imani
daenerys targaryen on drugs
your favorite anime is my hero academia
your husbando is todoroki
you see where i am going with this
“team protect me i’m gonna ult” *dies 5 seconds into ult*
.
Inara
BIG MUM ENERGY
your team is your family. you will protect them with your life.
can only hold your own with a good healer so you have good teamwork going for you
*cutely places wall in front of your ult*
useless in tdm so you stick to onslaught, siege and koth
.
Io
are you a furry, furry, or a furry?
“victow! dont ult on my tweam pwease! uwu!”
you 100% find her attractive in some way shape or form
you are either a 30 year old redditor who enjoys loli content or a 16 year old teen who is playing a shooter for the first time
she’s kind of cute, i guess
.
Jenos
i can never tell if i’m going to absolutely destroy you or if you’re gonna kick my ass
*cutely holds you up so the whole team can shoot you to death*
kamehameha
you’re a healer??? i guess???
your character has such deep lore and i bet you don’t even know half of it
.
Khan
one day you were playing and your team desperately needed a tank. you picked the first one you saw. suddenly, you’re lian’s foot stool
despite 2 layers of heavy armor, you’d still let this man walk all over you
“this skin is really cool, wish it wasn’t behind a pay wall...”
YEET
you actually know the game’s lore, for some reason
.
Kinessa
i never trust people who are good at a sniper. if you’re bad that’s natural and you’re 99% of the population. if you’re good you are definitely up to something
you’d sell your sister for 5 pennies if you could
you’re missing from the team all game and somehow have the most kills
“we have a kinessa???”
you are an urban legend to your team
.
Koga
someone’s been watching naruto
you are so shit at the game. like i’m sorry. no one’s good at koga i’m so sorry
how do you have so many skins for one character???
you’re always missing from the point
healers hate you. so does the enemy kinessa.
.
Lex
quit the game /nm
“who mains lex in 2021??? lmao???”
wall hacks, aimbot, and it’s all legal for you as an ability. you are a hacker in a world of puny vanillas. you like it easy so you go for the easy min max character. have fun getting hated
you think he’s hot and press on his loading abilities just so he can scold you and you can hear him being mad at you
*bonk* go to horny jail
.
Lian
"she could step on me”
you used to main some sort of healer but switched over when you got sick of everyone being needy
you can hold a point all on your own for a really really long time but the moment your team gets there you start flunking
you wish you had more skins for her
you don’t
.
Maeve
so imagine this. it was like 2018 and you were just chilling playing the game. you kept getting killed by maeve. in every game. she was in every game you went to and she kept killing you over and over and over again. you got frustrated, snapped, and bought her to see if you could do the same to others. you are now the maeve in every game. the cycle repeats.
your whole team doubts you but then you casually get a quad kill and they just sort of look away
you die a total of two times each round and 99% of the time it’s because you go too fast and fall off the map
you repeat everything she says in her accent because you think it’s cute
“welcome to ze meant streets, kitten!” “can you shut the fuck up” “i hate to cut and run, he-he!”
.
Makoa
you have the plushie skin or the beta skin, otherwise you don’t main and only play casually stop lying to yourself
“attack turtle go brrr”
you’re really good if you get paired with a good healer
otherwise you’re useless
you wish you could get better teammates because you could really thrive with an organized group. but on paladins you won’t get that, i’m sorry-
.
Mal’Damba
i always forget this guy is even in the game
you’re definitely under 6 foot IRL
you have an older sibling you always fight with
you’d love to have a snake irl
you’re really chill outside of the game, but when playing you hella rage
.
Moji
you are so precious
but also such a little shit
you annoy me but i also want to give you a hug
“let’s go guys!! to the point!! wheee!!”
please never change but also get out of my sight
.
Octavia
you always main the new character until the new person drops
somehow always have enough credits to buy the new champion whenever they come out
you don’t like having a stable main cuz you get bored
you like hanging out at the training rage
hate siege and love team death match, you like your games quick
.
Pip
you are the worst and best thing to ever happen to this game
you only pick him to heal yourself and hardly ever heal your team
no one notices you there until you ult
then you get focused
honestly you just seem like you wanna do your thing and i can respect that
.
Raum
you probably go to therapy or desperately need it
“BIG MAN BIG. HE IS BIG. BRRRR”
you always love the demons in media
you like being in charge of the team and wreck the point any time you are there, you like fighting on your own but having a healer nearby is nice too
you probably have daddy issues
.
Ruckus
you think ruckus’ and bolt’s dynamic is cool and that’s one of the main reasons you started playing him
he’s the only tank you can play
you used to main either inara or ying at some point but chose violence instead
really short irl. you physically relate to ruckus and spiritually to bolt.
“funny goblin man :)”
.
Seris
certified girlboss
you can hold an objective all on your own or heal your whole team no problem. either way you are SLAYING
“alright. who’s ass am i kicking today?”
mum energy is inferior to inara but still kind of there
i’m like 50% sure you have a foot fetish
.
Sha Lin
*pointing and chanting* incel, incel, ince-
whether that’s about you or the character you can decide
you like minecraft bedwars on the side
“if i don’t get this headshot i am literally going to spontaneously combust”
really useful when there’s no other long distance people - otherwise a nuisance
.
Skye
AWOOGA *jaw drops to ground, eyes roll out of head* BOOBA BOOBA BOOBA
you bought her for the tiddies, didn’t you?
she’s actually really satisfying to play once you get the hang of her, but can be real tough on rough days
you need a break i think - maybe play some other game for a bit?
*casually gets team kill with ult*
.
Strix
you own at least one pretty knife
you played him when he was unlocked on rotation, fell in love, and spent a whole evening collecting credits to buy him fully
“haha bird man”
i’ve said what i said about snipers. if you’re actually good at him you are hiding a body somewhere. i fear you.
why does everyone ship him with viktor????
.
Talus
little furry child
he reminds me of tommyinnit because he is small and annoying
if you play him you are tall and intimidating
i’m friends with a tall scary talus main
i can’t say bad things please spare me
.
Terminus
you always ult at the worst time and just get killed again 5 seconds after
“hey losers watch this” *goes on the point, dies, revives, kills one person and dies again*
you’re only a good tank if you cooperate
you don’t
on your own you’re a pretty good player
.
Tiberius
*sigh*
you think the cat is hot, don’t you?
“his accent is kinda cute tho hehe”
you saw that one ending scene in zootopia with the dancing tigers and it CHANGED you
you are probably a furry. if not your awakening is coming. be ready.
.
Torvald
you’ve been playing this game for too long
you’ve seen skins rise and fall. you’ve seen nerfs and buffs. you’ve seen reworks and remakes. you are ancient. older than the dragons and wiser than makoa. respect.
people see you on the opposing team and get really annoyed
“the point is really crowded, we can’t move in” “don’t worry guys, my ult is charged up”
you’re really good at all the characters but you like this guy a lot because you think he’s funky fresh
.
Tyra
you’re either new to the game or have been playing for too long
either way you can KICK ASS but you need to keep behind your team to do the most damage
flanks are the bane of you, especially the fast jumpy ones
you really want one of the cooler skins but you can only ever get the basic ones. such is the curse of maining one of the OG characters.
“bite me”
.
Viktor
you are level 100+ guaranteed, and everyone fears you
“oh shit they got a victor. flank focus him”
you probably play COD and CS:GO normally and wanted to go with something familiar and easy. your skill from the other more advanced games DWARFS everyone else
but why are you playing “guy with gun 132″ in a game with magical elves and fairies. like come on bro.
you don’t have any in-game friends because paladins is your guilty pleasure game you would never admit to
.
Vivian
“step on me” syndrome cranked up to 100%
this woman could spit on you and you’d still respect her more than your own mother. good for you
“i’m not a simp. i’m just tier 3 subbed to pokimane ironically”
you sweat the game hardcore. former victor main or he’s your secondary.
you’ve got her on level 50+ at least
.
Vora
like the maeve mains but somehow worse
bought her out of spite or played her while she was on rotation, now here you are grinding credits for her a day after she became unavailable
honestly you’re really good at the game i have nothing else to say
you enjoy the newer characters more than the OGs - you’re either a former vivian or lian main
you miss the play of the game feature in the game because you’d get all of them with this girl
.
Willo
you seem like the moji mains at first but show your true colors soon after
“fuck you” x50
you are a trash talker on max overdrive. you need to sit down, do some breathing exercises and have a drink.
you hate your own team more than the opposing guys
when you see a willow on the opposing team you make it your sole goal to eliminate her as many times as humanely possible
.
Yagorath
i bet you didn’t know she was canonically female until you read this
you don’t like sweating too much so you pick the tank that leaves you heavily relying on your healers and damages
you can hold a point really well so you like siege and onslaught
“are vora and yagorath connected in the lore somehow and do i really care?”
you have a friend who you always party up with to be your healer, otherwise you might switch to another character
.
Ying
“tanks love me, flanks hate me”
you are too powerful. literally. how are you so strong
you’ve mastered the most difficult healer in the game. the others are really easy for you to play but you have trouble with seris
motivate your team a lot but start shading and trash talking if they don’t cooperate
you’ll gladly play someone else for a long while and like taking breaks from her
.
Zhin
this is your first main after switching over from overwatch. we can smell it on you.
you’re really annoyed with his personality and voice lines but the character is too good to play for you to pass him up for that. you respond to his voice lines aloud very aggressively to let him know he’s an ass
“YES ZHIN HEALERS AREN’T USELESS YOU SELFISH PRICK”
you try your best but you’re not a great team player
infinite trips on a good day, die repeatedly without kills on a bad one and you switch over to vora or skye for a bit.
.
this took me hours to write out pls leave reblog and note thanks uwu

Number 3 for the klnace prompts please 🥺
Klangst Prompt #3:
“Can you please just.. hold me..?”
Summary: Lance has been having a hard time accepting his altean marks. Luckily, Keith arrives and is there to help him.
-
It’s been two years. two whole years since the war ended and the paladins made it back home to earth. two whole years since their lions took off in the middle of the night and never came back. and two whole years since Allura..
Since Allura died sacrificed herself to save the universe.
It would be an understatement to say that everyone came back home fine, because that was not the case. Coming back home meant bringing along nightmares that kept you up all night, unwanted, out-of-the-blue flashbacks in the middle of the day, jumping out of your skin at any sound louder than a whisper, and much more. So, so much more.
For Lance, coming back home meant he could be with his family again, but leaving Allura behind was never part of the plan.
And Lance is reminded of her every single time he looks into the mirror.
It’s a blessing and a curse. A blessing because at least he has a little part of her that he can see and touch and feel. But a curse because the part of her that he can see and touch and feel.. isn’t her.
He’s gotten used to his Altean markings since Allura gave them to him but even after two years, it’s still hard. Sometimes he goes an entire day without noticing them, forgetting they’re even there on his cheeks. But one tiny hint of emotion and boom.
They’re glowing.
Most of the time it's just a dim glow, a grayish light blue that’s only visible from his peripheral view. But on certain occasions, when he’s really up in his head and he can’t come down, they’re bright. They’re bright and buzzing and loud and blinding right there on his face for the entire world to see.
It’s rare, though.
And in the few times that it's happened, Lance always has the same feeling deep down in the trenches of his gut, with the same question burning in the back of his mind.
“Why me?”
For the longest time after the war, he shut everyone out. He hated being the center of attention, hated having all eyes on him, everyone looking at him like he was some fragile vase and if you said one thing that might trigger him, he’d break into a thousand pieces. He especially hated when his friends and family stopped looking him in the eyes when they spoke to him, their eyes glued to his markings which had them apologizing right after when he caught them, pushing him to continue with whatever he was saying.
It was too much..
He stopped going out in public or where there were people, and eventually locked himself in his room at all times. But he knew that that was a bad thing to do. Because it was just him all alone. Him and his markings. And that always made the thoughts in his mind and the feelings in the gut of his stomach come back to the surface of his health and spin him completely out of control.
Lance felt like he was on autopilot. He tried everything to cover his markings; hats, sunglasses, makeup, even stickers from his niece and nephew’s sticker books. It still did nothing to hide the fact that they were actually there.
And when times got drastic, he tried to take them off of his face. Literally.
When his family began to notice his distant behavior, they didn’t question it or push him to talk. They could never know what he went through in space, or how deeply he cared for Allura. But one family member in particular was really worried.
Veronica. She could read him like the back of her hand and when the other members of his family were too scared to confront the former Paladin, not knowing how he would react, Veronica stepped up to the plate.
She tried her best to be subtle and at first it worked. Her checking on him by helping him around the farm instead of being at work on the Atlas, tending to his every need when he asked, even guilt tripping him to going out to the store only to conveniently run into Hunk or Pidge or Shiro. And Lance knew all her little games of course, he just.. didn’t care.
So Veronica decided to call a distant friend.
That distant friend being the one person who knows Lance almost as well as she does.
The one and only Keith Kogane.
She called him in confidence and they talked a couple of times here and there. About the universe, his job with The Blade, and importantly, about Lance and his well-being. And it’s not like Veronica didn’t try to contact any of Lance’s other friends like Hunk, Pidge, or Shiro. She did. And he found out when they took him out for bowling and laser tag and he overheard them talking about it.
Yeah, let’s just say his marks were really glowing that night he confronted her about meddling in his life again.
But Keith was different. He was special. Veronica knew how strongly Lance felt about him and after a couple of different attempts to get Lance out of his room, or to talk about what was going on, she had no choice but to bring in the big guns.
Aka Keith.
It wasn’t easy, begging asking Keith to fly back to earth and take some time away from working with The Blade to comfort his sad friend who he hasn’t seen or talked to in months. But who else could get inside of Lance’s head like Keith?
So they made a plan. Keith would arrive back on Earth in two weeks on the Saturday before the McClain family dinner they have every Sunday night. And to make sure things wouldn't be too weird or staged, Veronica would also invite Hunk, Shiro and Curtis, and Pidge and Matt as well. It would be great for everyone to be together again anyway.
Saturday Evening.
The day was winding down to something calm and peaceful. Lance decided to get up and spend his day tending to the farm. He cleaned out the barn, fed the chickens, gathered some eggs, milked Kaltenecker and even gave her a nice bath. His family was gone, out for the day running errands, and the quiet wasn’t too loud or suffocating for once. It was surprisingly nice. After the chores were finished, Lance plucked some fresh juniberry flowers for the vase in his room and headed back up the hill to his home.
What he was expecting to see is maybe his family’s truck parked over by the big oak tree just outside his house.
But what he got instead, was a cruiser.
A galra cruiser.
And leaning against said galra cruiser with his arms crossed and a warm smile on his face is the one and only Keith Kogane.
Lance stops breathing as he stares at his old friend. He can’t believe Keith is even here right now, standing 50 feet away. Is this some kind of trick of the sunset? Lance rubs his eyes. Nope. It’s real. A small smile graces Lance’s lips as he takes a deep breath and makes his way over.
As he gets closer, Keith pushes himself off of the cruiser to meet Lance halfway. “Hey there, sharpshooter,” are the first words out of his mouth, his deep voice sending a chill down Lance’s spine.
“K-Keith,” Lance sputters, confusion and excitement pouring through his voice. They’re bodies meet together in a big, warm hug that has the hairs on Lance’s arms standing on end. Keith hugs him like he hasn’t seen him in a long time. And he hasn't. It’s been six and a half months since they last saw each other, or even spoke. Things with The Blade have been so busy that Keith rarely gets a chance to stop by to say hello or even stay a few nights. Of course, communication works both ways and Lance has spoken to him. He’s written Keith a letter for every other day. Yep. They’re all underneath his pillow in his room, ready to be opened and read by Keith eyes. That’s besides the point, he just can’t believe that Keith is HERE!
Lance pulls away, confusion still plastered on his face. Keith pats his shoulder and smiles that genuine, beautiful, once in a full moon smile that has Lance’s heart hammering inside his chest.
“Surprised?” Keith asks, folding his arms over his chest.
Lance reaches out and punches the half galran in his left pec, sending him stumbling back a bit. “Hell yeah I am, dude! W-what are you doing here!?”
“What,” Keith’s smile doesn’t falter as he shrugs. “Can’t a guy come back to earth to see his friends once in a while?”
Lance scoffs. “Uh, once in a while would be like every other week, not six and a half months!”
Keith’s eyes widen. “Shit, has it been that long??”
“Yeah, man.” Lance nods, rubbing the back of his neck. “I mean, I would know.. been subconsciously counting down the days or.. w-whatever..” A light blush decorates his cheeks and ears as Keith continues to stare at him. Then, he smiles again and weakly punches Lance’s arm. Lance takes a good look at him; tall, muscular, visible stubble decorating his chin and upper lip, dark hair pulled back into a messy ponytail that reaches his shoulder blades. He looks.. good.
“Why don’t we catch up then?” Keith asks with a softness in his voice that has Lance’s already hammering heart going haywire.
“S-sure thing.” Lance can barely meet Keith’s violet eyes as they begin their ascend up the hill to Lance’s home.
They talk on the porch swing until the sun goes down and the bright stars in the sky come up. Keith tells Lance all about how he and The Blade are doing amazing at fulfilling their mission as a humanitarian relief organization and all the planets they’ve helped. Lance listens thoroughly as Keith goes on and on, something about the way Keith’s eyes shine as he talks about his adventures up in space with his mother and Kolivan. It’s almost enough to lull Lance to sleep but he wouldn’t dare miss a second of Keith’s stories. After a while, Lance offers Keith some sandwiches and a few beers, to which he happily accepts, and they eat together in a nice comfortable silence.
“So,” Keith says after a small sip of his beer, “Enough about me. What’s been going on with you?”
Lance picks at his half eaten sandwich and shrugs. “Nothing as amazing as what you’re doing, that’s for sure.”
“Ah, come on,” Keith nudges him gently, “Tell me all about what’s been going on around here? The juniberry’s are looking nice.” He gestures to the open field and Lance exhales a small chuckle.
“Thanks.. I mean, I’ve been.. a-alright..”
Keith studies his face with a slight frown but doesn’t move to say anything as he senses Lance isn’t finished.
“But..” Lance lets out a sigh and rubs the back of his neck. A cool night breeze runs through his hair and he shivers a bit before turning his body to Keith.
“Yeah?” Keith answers, mirroring Lance’s body language.
“It’s been..” Lance stares at his sandwich, “Hard. Still.. like everywhere I look, I expect her to be there but.. she isn’t.. and I feel so..”
Keith watches as Lance sits there, looking down at his hands. He clenches them into fists and then..
He laughs.
A shaky, breathy laugh that has Keith confused as to what is funny.
Lance sniffs and then looks up to meet Keith’s eyes, shaking his head.
“I’m good, man.” He says instead. But the wavering in his voice says otherwise. Keith bites his bottom lip and tries to think of a way to say what he wants without it coming out as something that could push Lance away. Then he remembers all of the stuff Veronica told him about Lance’s health and mental state. Keith does a once over to really look at Lance this time, under the dim porch light. He looks like how Veronica says he might be feeling. Sad. Tired. Lonely. Although he does look good, the chores and things needed to be done around the farm toning up his physique, Keith finally sees the wear and tear the after effects of war has put him through. And it’s not much different than how Keith looks. Or Shiro. Or Hunk or Pidge and even Matt and Coran.
Keith ponders this for a while and then lets out a small breath. “Lance?” He says, voice soft and full of compassion.
Lance looks up and meets him, his hard gaze searching for something in Keith’s irises. Keith smiles shyly and reaches out to grab a hold of Lance’s slender hands. Lance looks down at their hands, studying their similarities and their differences. Keith’s got giant hands that are paler in comparison, but just as callous as Lance’s. They bring him a weird sense of comfort and as he looks up to meet Keith’s eyes once more, tears fill his own.
Panic rises in Keith’s features and he holds Lance’s hands tighter. “Hey, hey,” he says, “W-What's wrong??”
“Nothing, nothing,” Lance shakes his head, exhaling another laugh. “It’s just..” He sniffs, trying his hardest to blink away his tears. “You.”
“Me??” Keith shakes his head. “What did I-”
“You being here,” Lance cuts him off, looking up to stare into Keith’s eyes. “I’m really happy.. happiest I’ve been in a while.. I know that things got super busy and we have our own lives now, but I’m sorry that we kinda.. fell off. I’ve missed you. I do.. miss you.”
Keith’s pulse jumps as his ears eat Lance’s words, syllable by syllable. Those watery blue eyes are boring into Keith so hard, Keith feels like he could sink into them and would be totally okay with it. So he reaches forward and cups Lance’s cheek, moving closer to his face. He presses his forehead to Lance’s and very quietly breathes-
“I’ve missed you too, Lance,” He smiles, “So much. I think of you everyday and the one thing that keeps me going is you.”
“What, little ole’ me?” Lance says in a horrible southern accent that has the both of them giggling. Keith nods and rubs his thumb over Lance’s Altean mark.
“All of you,” Keith whispers, leaning forward to place a small, chaste kiss to Lance’s mark. It has Lance blushing like crazy and his Altean markings glowing bright between them. His emotions get the better of him and he lets his tears fall down his cheeks as he nuzzles his forehead against Keith’s, swallowing a sob threatening to pour out of his throat.
“Can you please just.. hold me..?” Lance asks, watery eyes locked with Keith’s.
And Keith damn near melts. “Of course.” He answers as Lance moves closer to his opened arms. He lays his head on Keith’s shoulder, slotting it perfectly in the junction of where Keith’s shoulder and neck meet, and sighs blissfully.
“I’m so tired.” He whispers.
“Sleep, Lance,” Keith whispers back, kissing his head. “Sleep.”
Lance nods, closing his eyes. “Guess this means you’re staying for dinner tomorrow night?”
“Don’t forget breakfast and lunch, too,” Keith says, leaning over to place a chaste kiss on Lance's temple. “If you’ll have me.”
“I would love that.” And when Lance finally drifts off to a peaceful sleep, his eyes catch sight of the light that bounces off of his cheeks. It’ll take a while but for tonight, he doesn’t mind the bright, buzzing, tingling feeling of his Altean markings. Not anymore.

Will will admit, the morning has been quite an adventure in itself.
It started when his cabin awoke with the cries of a distressed Clarisse, who slammed open the door of the Apollo cabin at exactly 3:43 AM and screamed at the top of her lungs, while also banging pots and pans, “THE BABY IS COMING! THE BABY IS COMING! William Andrew Solace, GET your ass over here!”
In all his life, Will’s cured lots of sicknesses and injuries. But never has he had to take care of a woman giving birth.
All in all, he thinks he did pretty well. Save for the almost-fainting part of the birth, he got the baby delivered perfectly healthy and relatively easily (although he’s sure Mellie would disagree), and Coach Hedge was there to even see it.
After handing over the child, the exhausted son of Apollo, savoring the sweetness of the new family’s moment, smiles and excuses himself. He's sure he is going to pass out any moment from both tiredness and excitement, and he is ready to recount all of the past two and a half hours to Cecil and Lou Ellen.
He steps out of the infirmary, surprised by how much lighter the sky has become. The sun rises, spreading its golden glow over the camp, and he has to shield his eyes from the brightness. Despite the beauty, though, there’s a dread that’s settled over the camp, a nervous electricity that has demigods buzzing left and right.
Demigods trudge to Half-Blood Hill, decorated with armor over their bodies. Will frowns, his own heart thudding faster. He can’t quite believe there’s another war about to happen, in just a little bit, after just barely surviving one last summer.
With a jolt, Will remembers the lives lost, the people who’ve slipped from his grasp in the last battle. His face burns with the shame of losing them, of failing them. Why couldn’t I have done better? he scolds himself.
With the prospective battle, he feels an even larger weight on his shoulders, the mass of stress crushing him. He feels as if he is Atlas, carrying the bulk of the universe on his body, doomed to serve this job for the rest of eternity.
The pressure of tears and anger presses against his throat, threatening to let loose. He swallows, trying to suppress it, but he can feel himself failing at doing so; his body shudders, his fists clench. He wants to drop to his knees and sob right here, right now. He’s so useless to everyone here. He’s failed so many people. How many will he fail today?
A voice calls his name from the distance, and for a second, Will stops thinking about all the horrors he’s seen. He turns his head in the direction that he heard the voice, but he can’t seem to find it. He frowns.
“Psst!” the voice calls again, and this time Will realizes it is clearly feminine. He swivels his head to the bushes in front of him, and almost screams when he sees eyes peering at him through the leaves.
For a second, he doesn’t recognize the faces that stare back at him. Only after he rubs his eyes does he realize that it’s Lou Ellen and Cecil. A shaky smile wavers on his lips. “Hey, guys. What are you doing?”
The two wrestle out of the bushes, shoving twigs aside. They rush over to the son of Apollo, excitement plastered over their faces. “Wanna help us scout the enemy?” Lou Ellen asks, her voice rising with enthusiasm. A mischievous sparkle twinkles in her eyes. “I’m practicing my Mist-controlling powers, and I think I’m getting pretty good.”
Will looks at Cecil, who nods in encouragement. “Come on, dude. You’ve been in the infirmary all day. I’m sure delivering a baby is probably more exciting than us, but...” He shrugs, and a sadness envelops his face. “I guess we just don’t know how much longer we have. Don’t you wanna spend it together?”
Will’s heart clutches and his skin prickles with goosebumps. He looks at his two friends, people he’s known for so long. He realizes that Cecil’s right; they don’t know how much longer they have with each other. The realization hits Will right where it hurts.
Taking a deep breath, he nods. “Alright, I could use a break. Let’s do it.”
~~~
Fifteen minutes later, Will, Cecil, and Lou Ellen are clad in black clothing, giggling in the bushes on the outskirts of camp. They watch the enemy wander around, setting up their equipment, shouting to one another. Peering at them, a spark of confusion consumes Will. They look like normal demigods; why are they warring, anyway? Who decided on this? Why can’t they just get along, share their similar stories? The entire thing is pretty pointless and sad, Will thinks, since they could have been friends. But instead, the two camps decided only on warring, setting their differences first and foremost.
It’s a little disheartening, to say the least. Will knows that this is the nature of humankind, that people tend to only see differences. But they are demigods; aren’t they a little above humans? Shouldn’t they know better?
But even then, they still have humanity in them. And as ugly as humanity can be, it’s still humanity. This is what humans are like. People must learn to accept. Will only sighs at this thought.
As he mulls this thought over, Will, Cecil, and Lou Ellen skitter over to Thalia’s pine tree, hoping to get a better view of the Roman demigods. Their faces brighten under the rising sun, illuminating their faces. The warmth seeps through Will’s skin, sinking into his bones. He want to keep that warmth there, absorb the light. He’s afraid of the darkness that might come after the war.
As they reach the tree, Will almost stops in astonishment. Because standing righ there, in a ridiculously bright Hawaiian T-shrit and black jeans, a Stygian sword at his side, stands Nico di Angelo. Will almost trips over himself.
For a second, Will stumbles. What on earth is he doing here? Didn’t he leave camp? Didn’t he go rogue? Didn’t he leave Will here, in the very same place, on a morning much like this one, just a year ago?
Cecil and Lou Ellen stop with him, confusion spilling over their features. “What’s wrong?” Cecil asks, nudging Will. “Dude, we’re in the light. Let’s go.”
Will only shakes his head in response and hurries over to the son of Hades, a strange feeling sparking in his blood. Is it resentment? Is it relief? He’s not quite sure. All he knows is that he never thought he’d see Nico again, and especially not dressed like that.
When Will reaches him, the son of Hades doesn’t seem to notice he’s right there. His dark eyes are also focused on the Roman demigods, peering over them, oozing hatred.
“Nico?” Will whispers, his voice quiet in the morning. Lou Ellen and Cecil crouch by Will, peering over at him in surprise.
Nico whirls suddenly, a look of fear in his eyes. He snaps his sword in their direction, just barely missing Will. The son of Apollo stumbles a bit, trying to jump past it.
The son of Hades’ eyes focus, clearing up as he stares at the three demigods. His face betrays a series of emotions: first confusion, then shock, and finally irritation. He opens his mouth to speak, but Will snaps first. Gesturing to the sword, he hisses, “Put that down! What are you doing here?”
Nico blinks, surprise written over his face. Then he shakes his head and frowns at Will. “Me?” he asks, eyebrows furrowing. “What are you doing here? Getting yourselves killed?”
Will’s blood boils with Nico’s tone. Their first time meeting in over a year, and that’s how he’s going to talk to Will? The son of Apollo scowls. “Hey, we’re scouting the enemy.” Spreading his palms, he assures, “We took precautions.”
A dark eyebrow rises on Nico’s face, a look of doubt painting his face. “You dressed in black with the sun coming up. You painted your face but didn’t cover that mop of blond hair. You might as well be waving a yellow flag.” He rolls his eyes.
Will’s face feels warm, the heat of humiliation coursing through his nerves. “Lou Ellen wrapped some Mist around us, too.”
The two looked over at the girl, whose eyes were widened in surprise. Suddenly put on spot, her own face turns as red as Will’s. She greets Nico and tells him that the demigod next to her is Cecil, a son of Hermes.
A moment of hesitation burns between the four demigods, waiting for the next move. Nico’s eyes switch over the three of them, deciding what to do, testing how great they are. Will puffs out his chest, a look of determination in his eyes. You know me, he wants to say. Don’t play this way.
Finally, Nico kneels and asks about Coach Hedge and his arrival at camp, whether he got here safely. Despite his irritation earlier, Will allows a smile to come over his face at the mention of the satyr. Lou Ellen giggles, and Will nudges her, though a bout of elation envelops him, too. He smiles at Nico, assuring him that the satyr is fine.
Nico asks about the child, a look of momentary excitement passing over his face. The smile on Will’s face widens despite himself, elated to talk about the new baby. “He’s fine, too,” Will promises. “A very cute little satyr boy.” His skin crawls again, but this time with the memory of the birth. He’d never seen such terrifying yet beautiful scenes in his life. A shudder echoes through him. “But I delivered it,” informs the son of Apollo, grimacing. “Have you ever delivered a baby?”
Nico frowns, a look of confusion and disgust rolling over his face. “Um, no.”
Will shrugs and tells him that he just needed the fresh air; the mission with Lou Ellen and Cecil would help him. A grin takes over his face again as he announces, “My hands are still shaking.” He holds out his palms and blinks at them. “See?”
Without thinking, Will takes Nico’s hand. In hindsight, he probably should have considered how Nico would react, and how strange this interaction might be after not seeing each other in months, but he isn’t quite thinking. With the baby’s birth, the potential battle, and with Nico’s sudden appearance, can anyone blame him for feeling frenzied and dazed, with having practically no brain functionality at such an early time in the morning?
A buzz echoes through Will’s palms, electrifying his nerves. His bones resonate, hum, emanate energy. He isn’t sure why this is happening; it’s as if being with Nico again, feeling his fingers in his, he’s unlocked something. For a second, Will sees and feels and hears nothing but the son of Hades. But then, just a split second later, he feels it: a cold, empty darkness, seeping from Nico’s hands. Will’s not sure anyone can quite feel darkness, so this is quite the strange interaction for him. He feels void, alone, as if no one is around. He almost pulls away when Nico does it first.
“Whatever,” he grumbles. “We don’t have time for chitchat. The Romans are attacking at dawn, and I’ve got to-”
Will frowns, but what else did he expect? Of course Nico’s going to want to move straight ahead. A buzz of annoyance echoes in him. He doesn’t like that he’s talking to them as if they don’t understand the seriousness of the situation. Before Nico can continue, he snaps back, explaining that they know what’s going on. He raises an eyebrow at Nico. “But if you’re planning to shadow-travel to that command tent, forget it.”
A look of rage passes over Nico, darkness roiling in his irises. “Excuse me?” he growls, eyes glaring. Will feels that he’s pushed too far, too much, but he stands his ground. Nico just got back to camp; he’s not going to risk his life just for this.
Will holds his chin high. With a look of determination, and as much bravery as he can master in front of the son of Hades, he informs him that Coach Hedge was very descriptive in his warnings of Nico and his shadow-travelling. “You can’t try that again.”
Nico’s jaw clamps hard, anger pouring in bouts. He watches Will daringly, as if saying, Watch me. “I just did try it again, Solace. I’m fine.”
Will almost scoffs. If that darkness he felt just moments ago was any indication, the son of Hades is not fine. Rage boils over in Will’s body; why can’t he just understand that maybe there are people here who actually care that he doesn’t risk himself again? Why is he always the one to put himself in danger?
And yet, he feels a connection to Nico. He knows what it’s like to want to push yourself to the extreme, especially if it means that you save the ones you love. And for this reason, he finds himself even more irritated in Nico. If they’re so alike, then Will finds him just as equally annoying as he finds himself.
He rambles to Nico about how he can feel the darkness oozing from him, the risk he’d be making if he makes that jump one more time. As he does, he watches the son of Hades raise his eyebrow, not surprised, as if he knows what this jump could mean. With a jolt, Will realizes that maybe that’s what Nico wants - to not exist anymore. Red hot tears push against his throat, but he grounds himself. “You are not shadow-traveling. Doctor’s orders.”
Nico opens his mouth and starts streaming excuses about the Romans, but Will won’t have it. He’s not losing Nico after only just now seeing him again. The son of Apollo assures Nico that they’ll take care of them, that it’ll be fine. Lou Ellen even has the Mist to control; they don’t need Nico risking his life.
Nico looks as though he wants to argue, say something, but he chooses wisely to keep his lips sealed. Instead, he stares at Will, dark eyes bearing into blue ones. There’s a depth to them, Will realizes. It’s as if he’s seen terrible, dark things. He looks shattered; broken; cracked. Will’s body relaxes with pity, with remorse, but he stands his ground.
Will’s been begging the gods for Nico to come back for months. He left with barely an explanation, leaving Will at the summit of Half-Blood Hill so many months ago, wallowing in his confusion. He won’t let Nico escape his grasp again, not when he’s only now returned.
A fiery hot tension stretches between the boys as they stare each other down. Will knows Cecil and Lou Ellen are watching them, surprised. The boys hold each other in this strange staring competition, trying to get the other to relent.
But Will’s stubborn, just like Nico is. There will only be one winner in this battle.
Will won’t let Nico slip away again.
Nico sighs in exasperation, throwing his hands up. “Whatever,” he grumbles, and a wave of white hot elation washes over Will. Relief consumes him. He won’t be shadow-traveling, Will thinks, relaxation taking over his body.
Nico continues glaring at Will, but the son of Apollo doesn’t even care. Nico juts his chin forward, and dark wisps of hair fall into his eyes, fluttering over the dark brown irises. “You’ll follow my lead.”
Will smiles, relishing the win of the silent argument. He spreads his hands in a placating gesture. “Fine. Just don’t ask me to deliver any more satyr babies, and we’ll get along great.”
Hi all!! Hope you like the latest chapter!!! Please let me know what you think and read my other stories :) I love comments and feed back (please be kind-even if you don’t like it you can say but nicely!) Sorry for any mistakes that would be all on me!
Cosmo literally pops us into my work area, and I rub his ears as he whines. I know he’s sad so I lean down and while holding his head still, I look into his eyes. “Don’t worry we are getting him back.”
As always, his intelligent eyes indicate that he understands me and well we seem to be on the same damn page because he agrees. But his lean into me and whine don’t go unnoticed. I can sympathize and understand, we need him back. Krolia is not the only one who needs Keith back! Poor Cosmo!! I give him a quick rub and an ear tug. He bumps me which of course, knocks me down and I smile. I feel my eyes tear up suddenly and I hug him trying to tell myself it’s all going to work out.
I quickly show Krolia what she needs to get aboard, while I run through a systems check. While everything is new there are plenty of bugs that I had planned to work out. With the timetable worked up and now us going into space, well I need to be sure that this crap is working well. After a bit, we were ready to leave. It’s actually mostly due to Krolia. She is like crazy strong so loading the ship didn’t take that long!
I get to the Atlas and stock up on the remaining supplies while gathering the rest of the gang. My dad has called by now and said whatever I need to just let him know. Then he rambled into the he whole routine - be careful, call for help, don’t be stupid and he finished with come back with my guy. What the hell people. I have NO guy! Anyways we are off before you know it. I honestly think it’s within the hour, which is good. Making good time is important at this point. We need to move fast so hopefully no one notices Krolia and Cosmo were missing.
On the ship, once we are off, I’m basically useless. I don’t pilot, that’s Shiro so now I’m I’m so focused on trying to make plans that I don’t even realize that I’ve started pacing again. At some point Lance grabs me, pulling me close and says, “Carina, you need to sleep. You called me a little after 2 am or so, you won’t be any good to us, to KEITH, comatose. The coordinates are in, we have a plan, please just take a break. I’ll wake you up if anything comes up. I swear.”
He has his arms around me and I take a second to look at him, really look at him. He seems better than the last time I saw him, but he’s still too skinny. Too pale especially with the dark circles under his eyes. And as I look at Lance I know he’s right, but I just…I feel too edgy, how could I relax? There is no way I can turn off my brain at this point. Shit, Hunk is already cooking to alleviate stress but what can I do???
I shake my head and say, “No, no, I’m good, I’ve gone on way less sleep. You know me.”
Frowning he nods, “Yes, I do. And that’s why I’m going to push this. Plus, I know you are also evaluating if I’m okay when I’m standing here worried for you!” Lance rolls his eyes and yells that we are getting some shut eye, grabbing and dragging me to the back where the holding bay is. He tells me to sit and comes back moments later with pillows and blankets.
“I got you. Really, trust me.” He sits against a wall and gets me to lay down with himself next to me. I keep fidgeting so he ends up laying down with me, an arm snug around my waist, because I kept trying to get up. Finally, he says, “We are getting him back. Just rest up, so that wicked smart brain of yours is fully functional. I’m here. We are all here and just like back then, everything is going to work out. Seriously who stands a chance against us?! The have no clue of our determination.”
I slowly nod and try really hard to relax. But I can’t. I don’t want to voice my biggest fear. Or more accurately, I can’t. What if we don’t get him back? What if we aren’t enough? What if it’s like Allura, he sacrifices himself for us. I mean honestly, that’s his MO. What if he’s already dead? What if he’s being tortured, or he’s hurt? With all these thoughts swirling in my brain, I just can’t or rather don’t want to voice it, not out loud.
But it’s there, like a sliver of wood stuck in my mind. Just bothering me enough that I can’t forget about it. And there so I cannot stop poking at it.
Finally, he sighs and asks me, “Do you still trust me?”
I can feel his heartbeat behind me and his steady breathing, luring me to unwind. I nod, of course. I can feel his body relax and whisper, “Why? Sometimes I don’t even trust myself?”
I sigh, “Well, tough shit, I trust you, always. Even way back in our Garrison days, when you were being dumb, I still told you about my suspicions and let you come to save Shiro.”
He laughed then, “Let me? Okay, just relax you don’t have to sleep just rest.” Then she felt his finger is stroking my hand and I’m finally warm instead of ice cold. But I can’t help but worry. Again, we know better than most, that everyone doesn’t get a happy ending, most importantly Allura but even on a larger scale Olkarion. I know I’m not going to sleep so I figure, I’ll wait Lance out and sneak out once he goes to sleep.
But sometimes I forget, Lance knows me. The real me. He’s so observant and good at getting others to relax, shit, he probably know me better than I know myself. With him holding onto me, keeping me close, his steady warmth relaxes me, his fingers rubbing circles on my hand and I find myself slowly start to drift off to sleep. Then Lance starts to sing a soft lullaby. In Spanish.
Before you know it, Krolia is waking us up and telling us we arrived and need to get in action. We get up and Krolia and Shiro lay out the facts that we know and what we can hazard a guess of. It’s going to be an extraction with some Razzle Dazzle thrown in. You can insert my eye roll at any point but we have a plan.
Ultimately, it’s been less than 24 hours that I have known that they have had Keith. As far as I’m concerned, that’s at least one day too long. I rub my eyes, crack my neck and get up. I push everything to the side. No worries, we got this I tell myself, after all we got a plan to enact! The team is back! Whoever it is who has Keith, well, they really don’t know who they messed with. Sure the Blades are one thing, they were super scary at one time. But now, I bet this planet just views them as some ordinary humanitarian organization.
Well, wake up cuz we are on the job. I look at my people, my family and take a deep breath. We got this. We CAN and WILL do this. No doubt. No room for other options. After all, Keith is family. And we are here to get him back. Period.
I feel like i'm gonna regret asking this but what is hiby
Oh. Ohohoho, oh. I recently answered this to someone else (not on this blog), I suppose there are so many newcomers in this fandom lately that HIBY has become slightly less known than it used to be.
HIBY stands for How I Became Yours, the most polemic and catastrophic fancomic in the history of the Avatar franchise. If you thought any of the official comics were problematic in any sense, woah boy, they’re goddamn flawless masterpieces compared to this thing.
Every possible angle of HIBY is problematic. Spot-on accusations of tracing were the main reason why Deviantart took down Jackie Diaz’s profile and comic from their platform. I heard Nickelodeon also got involved legally, not 100% sure on that front, but if true, they cracked down on her because she attempted to profit off this clunky mess of an inconsistent story by claiming it was somehow an official sequel to ATLA. To clarify, this last thing is something I was told, I can’t find actual sources to confirm it… so maybe I heard an exaggerated account of the tale of HIBY and it never went that far. Nevertheless, this comic didn’t need to escalate into a legal problem to be absolutely abhorrent.
In regards of art, HIBY somehow keeps discarding the asian-inspired setting seen throughout ATLA and instead favors showing the characters in European castles and outfits that don’t fit anywhere within ATLA’s world at all:
Katara is basically wearing a red version of Belle’s dress from Beauty and the Beast, if I’m not mistaken. The architecture of the place they’re at is so European it’s baffling (if I’m not mistaken, this is supposed to be Toph’s family’s house :’D). Also, it’s blatantly obvious that the background is a photograph, so she could’ve just as easily looked for photos of asian locations instead, but she picked european architecture because yes. Yet more blows against the possible artistic merits someone could offer this comic (if there’s any).
Now, though, the BIGGEST problem in HIBY is, of course, the story:
To recap: ATLA ends with Aang and Katara kissing at Ba Sing Se. Whatever problems someone may have with their relationship, or Mai and Zuko’s, or Sokka and Suki’s, it’s unquestionable that those three ships were canon by the end of the show.
Jackie Diaz’s SEQUEL COMIC doesn’t acknowledge this finale: somehow, Aang is in love with Toph but they’re not together despite there’s literally NOTHING in their way, since Aang and Katara weren’t together at all, according to Diaz. And Katara? Oh, she’s pining endlessly over Zuko, who somehow married Mai…
… Despite wanting Katara too.
… Despite he literally knocked up Katara back when the war was ending, which resulted in a miscarriage because of Mai’s wicked schemes~~!!
Can someone please explain to me in what world does it make sense for Zuko, FIRE LORD ZUKO, to be in a relationship with someone he doesn’t want, when the person he does want is RIGHT THERE, AVAILABLE, when there’s no real political consequences to ANYTHING that happens in this comic? You could say “oh no the Fire Nation people wouldn’t accept a Water Tribe woman…” … but then Zuko ends up with Katara anyways and the only problem is that Mai wants to kill them for that :’) so… no excuse works.
Basically there’s no real plot, the whole thing boils down to “I want these ships to happen and I need them to face hardships even if they don’t make sense”. The main hardship is that Mai doesn’t want her HUSBAND to carry out an affair with Katara. Zuko’s response to Mai’s obvious and reasonable complaint about their illicit relationship is to TURN VIOLENT WITH HER. And he’s the good guy :’)
Tumblr media
Mai has a non-existent older brother Sho, who looks like a BLEACH character with Ozai’s hairstyle, and together they will try to kill Katara because, welp, someone has to give them trouble, I guess. In all fairness, the only character with a relatively logical flow of thought in this damn trainwreck is Mai. I mean, “my piece of shit husband married me for political clout, got his mistress pregnant, I didn’t want the kid to be a problem for me so I induced a miscarriage in Katara by poisoning her, probs just wanted Katara dead altogether but whatever, I only got the kid. Then Zuko threw me away despite I’m his legal wife and I’m really pissed about it so I want Katara dead” is the smartest writing in this entire comic. And no, that’s not a compliment, it’s still stupid as fuck but that’s how much more stupid everything else is.
So, the happy couples are, like I said, Zuko and Katara, who get together despite Zuko is married to Mai, Aang and Toph, who somehow weren’t together despite there’s nothing in the way, AAAND…
… Sokka and fake!Azula. Because I refuse to acknowledge that thing as the Princess we all love and adore.
Frankly, I consider it a miracle that HIBY didn’t destroy our ship completely when it was posted online, seeing as it was amongst the most talked-about fanmade content in Avatar’s fandom at the time. If people no longer associate Sokkla with HIBY immediately, we’ve definitely done a good job saving our poor ship’s face and showing it’s got a fuckton of potential compared to the shitfest that comic portrayed.
Why is Sokkla so problematic in HIBY? Because of fake!Azula, of course. Why is she fake!Azula? Because she’s got plot-convenient amnesia! Turns out that, for some reason, Azula forgot all the events from ATLA (let’s be real, so did Jackie Diaz so it’s not just her) and she shows up in this comic as a completely different character, so much that, upon hearing about the TERRIBLE THINGS SHE DID AND WAS, her reaction is…:
Tumblr media
Fascinating, am I right? :’D She’s nice, sweet, shy and as good as brain-dead. And as she’s so sweet and cute now, somehow that becomes absolutely appealing for Sokka. And he falls for her, she falls for him, they bang dramatically, and so on and so forth…
Eventually Azula sacrifices herself in the final battle when Mai and her brother try to kill everyone and oh no! Sokka’s love interest dies again! Such a shocker, however, that Sokka goes to the Spirit World to save her, and unlike Iroh he succeeds… but what does Azula look like post-Spirit World shenanigans?
Tumblr media
… Yeah, okay, fake!Azula calling anyone her “little angels” is just proof of how IC she is, if you had any doubts still.
But isn’t it FUNNY. Isn’t it HILARIOUS. That Azula not only undergoes an atom-deep brainwipe that turns her into a flat non-character, but that after dying she’s revived with WHITE HAIR, dressed in blue clothes and whatnot…?
My interpretation, and honestly, I don’t know if there’s any other possible interpretation… Jackie Diaz wanted Sokka to be with Yue :’) She fucking wrecked Azula’s character to turn her into a fake!Azula, who would eventually turn into fake!Yue after being resurrected because oh that’s just perfect to close off Sokka’s storyline, isn’t it? Only, he’s not with Yue nor with Azula because it’s neither of them. Just as it isn’t really Sokka either, or Katara, or Zuko or Aang or Toph.
Now, revisiting this trainwreck, there is a throwaway line where Ty Lee, in her (I think) only appearance in the story tells Katara that Suki and Sokka broke up. So um, Suki does exist, officially, in this comic, and she did date Sokka but it ended, and she’s back in Kyoshi Island with her team.
Which elicits the question… why the fuck is she Mai’s maid?
Tumblr media
I assure you, if you decide to delve deeper into this mess, you’ll absolutely find a lot more things to laugh about, to be outraged about, and to facepalm about while you wonder how on earth would someone, ANYONE, create something like this and not die of cringe looking at the finished product. It’s baffling to me.
At any rate, if you’d like to torture your own eyeballs reading this comic for yourself, there’s a Tumblr blog that gathered HIBY perfectly neatly for all curious eyes eager to torture themselves with this OOC fest. If you want more details than I care to remember about this catastrophic mess of a story, there’s always the TV Tropes page, which I think illustrates everything rather well.
So… that’s HIBY. While I don’t think it should be sentenced to oblivion (we had best never forget the lowest lows the fandom has reached, else someone might be tempted to outdo them), this particular fanwork is quite the trainwreck in just about every regard. I really don’t think there’s anything worth salvaging in it. So, if you wanna read the whole thing (I’d be surprised if you would xD), knock yourself out in the blog link I posted up there. Otherwise, have a nice day if you still can after reading my answer to your ask :’D
Krogans like scars
“Both teams are in place, tell us when we need to clear the traps for you,” Kaidan’s voice screeched over the radio.
              “Got it,” Commander Shepard said.
              “Keep yourselves safe,” Commander Shepard and Abigail said together.
              “Not another one,” Maxwell said, over the radio.
              “What’s his problem?” Commander Shepard asked. Abigail didn’t say anything. It seemed easier not to say anything. It was always a war with him. It was always an argument that Abigail didn’t want. She knew that he cared about her, but the way that he showed it made it nearly impossible to explain it to anyone else.
              Brax was not so conscious of his words. “He’s just upset that Abigail took leadership and he didn’t.”
             “That’s not true,” Abigail said, she closed her eyes. This was not the first time that she had heard this argument. This wasn’t even close to the first time she heard this argument. “I’m sorry Commander, I thought that this argument had been settled before I got here.”
              “It’s alright. I have had arguments in my teams that have lasted a lot longer,” Commander Shepard said, glancing toward Abigail.
              “Not like this,” Abigail said, shaking her head. She wanted to believe that other people could understand, but she knew better.
              “It’s been bad,” Commander Shepard said. “When we get out of this alive let me tell you about the story of Miranda and Jack. Or another one Wrex and I. Or Tali and Legion.”
              “You got it,” Abigail said, giving her a smile.
              “Now, let’s focus up,” Commander Shepard said.
              “Yes, ma’am,” Abigail said, saluting Shepard.
………………..
              “I don’t like letting them go alone,” Brax said, looking over at the three squishy humans that he was with.
              “We don’t like the fact that it’s one of our people and two of yours down there. Who knows what might happen?” Kaiden said.
              “Nothing,” Brax said, with a strong voice. It was the voice of a Krogan. It was the voice of someone who knew things that were too harsh to remember. “Abigail wouldn’t let anything happen to your precious squishy one.”
              “That’s what you tell us how can we trust you?” Kaiden asked, storming up to Brax.
              “Because Abigail has never let anyone who she was asked to protect die, that and for reasons that I do not know she adores your squishy one. She won’t let anything happen to someone she admires,” Brax said, pushing Kaiden slightly. Maxwell only nodded, he wasn’t sure that he wanted to completely agree with Brax, but Maxwell also knew Brax was right.
              “We need to get moving,” Miranda said, looking at all of them.
………………..
              “Don’t move,” Abigail stated, taking a step forward. She motioned for Shepard to take lead, after all Shepard was the one that was supposed to be leading. Shepard took her place and Abigail squelched over the coms “At least ten men up ahead.” Shepard nodded, but didn’t say anything. She took out her shotgun fearing the worst. Victarious took out his pistol understanding, and rightfully so, that Abigail would want her Sniper rifle. She did. Always did.
“On my mark,” Shepard stated.
“On your mark,” Abigail repeated. It was something her father had taught her to do. It reminded her who was in charge, not that she ever needed that. She would never forget in this mission that she wasn’t in charge, for once, she was not the person everyone looked to.
Shepard stood on one side of the door, Abigail on the other, Victarious being the one to open the door. The millisecond he did bullets came flying. “Guess no element of surprise,” Shepard said, being the one to take the first shot.
“Never liked the element of surprise,” Victarious said, almost slightly laughing.
Abigail, pulled him into her. “Try not to get shot.” She then pushed him away from her again. Three bullets came right for him, but Abigail put up a biotic barrier and stopped all three. “What did I just say?”
“Thanks,” Victarious said, shooting one person, while Abigail dropped her barrier.
“Been saving your ass so long I just know when you need it,” Amelia said, taking a shot at one guy, and then throwing down a singularity.
Shepard biotic balled two that were in the singularity. Then shot gunned one’s head clean off. Abigail had snipped two and had one more pinned to the wall with her biotics. Victarious is the one that killed him. Amelia quickly dropped the body and focused on a stray bullet coming at her, she tried to put up a biotic barrier in time it just didn’t work. “Shit,” she said, before diving beyond a wall. She quickly slapped some med-a-gel on it, and went back to snipping, where she sniped one more person.
              “Still more coming,” Shepard stated.
              “Yes, ma’am,” Abigail said, throwing a biotic ball at someone.
              Victarious looked behind him to look at Abigail. “Abigail, let us take care of this. You need to stay hidden.”
              “You know I won’t do that,” Abigail said, taking another shot.
              “What is going on?” Shepard asked the two of them.
              “I’m sorry, Commander,” Abigail said, taking another shot. “We need to push these guys out. We’ll still have two more waves, but if we can push these guys out, we should be…” There was a pause. Abigail was thinking for a moment. She stopped for just a moment. “They have an atlas. They have an atlas,” Abigail screamed.
              “What?” Shepard screamed.
              “I don’t think that I can be any clearer, ma’am. They have an atlas. They have at least one, but I think that they actually have more than that, but I can’t be sure…” Silence, just for a second. “No, I am not going to let…” Another break in silence. “Just get me the information as soon as you can, please, and thank you.”
              “So, an Atlas?” Shepard asked, deciding that the best decision that she could make was to not question the fact that Abigail seemed to be getting crazier and crazier the longer they talked.
              “At least one, maybe two. I can’t quite be sure on the number, ma’am,” Abigail said, shaking her head. The truth was that in her head it did matter. They needed to know to be prepared, but Shepard knew best. Abigail was sure of that. Victarious looked at Abigail. Abigail looked back at him. “I’m fine. Stop your mothering.”
              “You never had a mother,” Victiarous stated.
              “Thanks for reminding me of that,” Abigail said, glaring at him. Abigail took another shot and then threw another biotic ball.
              Shepard made a mental note to ask about the fact that Abigail never had a mother, but knew at that second there were more important things that needed to be worried about, and because of that she shot two more guys, and threw a third into another singularity that Abigail had put down. “Atlas,” Commander Shepard said, seeing the one that Abigail was talking about slowly marching in.
              “I see it,” Victarious said.
              “Hard to miss,” Abigail said, shaking her head. “There are several ways to take these things out.”
              “Take out the shields and then the glass,” Shepard said.
              “Sounds like she knows what she’s doing,” Victarious said, looking over at her.
              “I’ve knocked out a few of them in my time,” Commander Shepard said, straightening herself up. “Now focus up.”
              “Of course, ma’am,” Abigail said, tapping a few things onto her Omni-tool. “I want you to boost electrifying ability in my Omni-tool by 3,500 watts.”
              “Who are you talking to?” Shepard asked her.
              Abigail didn’t hear her, nor would she have answered if she had. “Take it from my shields if you have to.”
              “What are you talking about?” Shepard asked her.
              “Releasing charge in three. Two. One.” Abigail threw her wrist forward and watched as the electricity traveled through her omni-tool and into the air. Watching it spark and scatter. “Atlas shields are down.”
              “Taking him down,” Commander Shepard said, aiming her shotgun. That was all that she had to do. She took three quick shots. “The glass is broke. Take the shot Victarious.”
              “Yes, ma’am,” Victarious stated, steadying his arm. He took three deep breaths, he aimed the gun, took the shot and watched the body slump.
              “Nice shooting Vic,” Abigail said, sliding back into position. She pulled her gun back out. “We still have more men coming.”
              “How many more?” Commander Shepard asked. Under normal circumstances Shepard wouldn’t have asked these questions. Under normal circumstances she wouldn’t have expected anyone to be able to answer the question, however it seemed that Abigail knew more than what many were willing to say, so she kept asking questions.
              And Abigail kept answering them. “About ten more. I think. At least in this area. Past that it gets a bit more complicated.”
              “Don’t worry about past this area I just want to know what’s going on here.”
              “Yes, ma’am,” Abigail said, nodding her head a few times. “Ten more.” Abigail sniped one of them in the head. “Nine.” Shepard shotgunned three more down. “Six.” Victarious pulled out his pistol. “Five.” Abigail laid down one more singularity and sucked four guys into it. Shepard threw a biotic ball into the singularity. Smearing two of them against the wall. “Three.” Victarious stabbed one guy behind him. “Two.” Abigail shot two that were still caught in the singularity. “That should be the last one.”
              “Good job, you two,” Shepard said, giving her team a smile that they couldn’t see.
              “Thank you,” Abigail said, running her fingers through her hair. “Victarious…”
              “I know what you are about to say,” he said, glaring at her.
              “Then why do I still feel like I have to say it,” Abigail asked, looking down at her arm.
              “How is the arm?” Shepard asked, walking up to her.
              “It will be a cool scar, if I didn’t get the medigel in time.”
              “Do you want a scar?”
              “I mean I wouldn’t hate scars,” Abigail said, closing her eyes. “I hear Krogans like scars.” Abigail had a slight smile on her face after she said that.
              “You’re into Krogans?” Shepard asked.
              “No,” Abigail laughed. “It’s just something that my team on Earth said whenever one of us got a scar. It always seemed to cheer everyone up.”
              “You worked with a team?” Shepard asked.
              “Yeah, there was a lot of us while I was on Earth,” Abigail said, looking away from Shepard. “It’s where I met Brax.”
Beckett’s POV.
Panic settles as Beckett frantically searches the room, not even Alma and/or The Dean are here.
W-what?!? Where did she go? Did they take her? They promised not to keep secrets but this doesn’t seem okay...
Becket speed walks to the desk and asks the nurse about the situation.
“I’m sorry sir but we can’t give out information unless you are specifically in her emergency contact list.” The nurse replied. Beckett sighed, running a hand through his hair before nodding and going back to the lounge room where the Pend Pals where waiting for updates.
Tumblr media
“Sh-she’s gone.” Beckett says, panting from running up the stairs. They all look at him with confused looks.
“Whose gone?” Atlas asks standing up narrowing her eyes.
“...Ellie?” She guessed. Beckett could only nod.
“Where the hell is she?!?” Zeph said, putting the ping pong paddles that he and Griffin where playing with away.
“I just knocked on the door and I heard nothing and walked in to absolutely nobody there, the lights where on and the covers where thrown over so something must’ve taken her.” Beckett explained, still in shock himself. He ran a hand through his hair again before speaking.
“I asked the nurse and she said only emergency contacts could be given information.” He explained further while Atlas perked up.
“I’m on the list, she had me put on during the summer.” Atlas quickly said before walking out to the stairwell. The others just shrug and follow behind.
They reach the desk and the nurse turns her attention to the group.
“Hello, how can I help you?” The nurse politely asked.
“Can you tell me any news on my sister? I’m on the emergency list.” Atlas said briefly before the nurse checked and nodded.
“It looks like Ms. Valentine was admitted roughly an hour and a half ago and the Dean requested the equipment for their procedure” the nurse flipped the chart, her eyes scanning over the page before continuing. “And ithe Dean requested more equipment once again about 10 minutes before she was discharged. but it’s strange, it’s not the equipment they would use for the spell the Dean informed us on. They had no help from the nurses per request.”
That’s not strange at all.... Beckett sarcastically said in his head.
“Did they say where they where going?” Atlas’ brows furrowed and you could tell she was starting to get worried.
“I’m afraid not, they didn’t leave through the doors though, they walked to our mirror room down the hall with her over that strange ladies’ shoulder. They also called a code Blue. During that 10 minutes before hand but it seems as though they had it under control.”The nurse answered before resting the chart down.
Wait... code blue? Beckett thought back to that chart in the hallway.
Life Threatening?!?!?
“Did that lady have a red cloak and short brown hair?” Atlas asked tapping her fingers against the flat surface of the front desk.
The nurse nodded and Atlas thanked her before walking away, clearly lost in thought.
“Should we go to the mirror room? Surly you know a spell that could track their magick.” Griffin said while walking up next to her.
“Usually I would say yes but these mirrors are more commonly used by doctors and paitents and it would be harder to track because the magick would be drowned out.” Atlas answered tapping her chin in thought.
Everyone looked up at Beckett who was practically shaking from worry.
“Man, you okay?” Zeph asked clapping his hand on his shoulder.
“Yeah, you look like you need a spa day.” Shreya said checking her nails.
Beckett couldn’t believe how calm they where about everything. “Code blue means life threatening! Something could’ve happened to her!” Beckett said. They all looked at him with worried expressions.
“ Alma and Swan rolled her out and discharged her then that means she’s okay.” Griffin stated gesturing to the mirror room.
“How are you guys not worried about this?!? Ellie could be in danger! And how could we trust Sawn after last years ‘incident’ where she didn’t tell us anything for our ‘saftey’” Beckett wasn’t pleased with his friends way of looking at the situation.
“Swan promised us she wouldn’t play anymore games since the whole Raife thing, and she wouldn’t let Alma do anything.” Atlas says back.
“Well wouldn’t they tell us that they where taking us?”
Before any of them could respond...
“ribbit.”
“What was that?”
“blorg.”
Suddenly, Zeph feels a cold goo settle into is scalp and they look to find Tim contently lying atop his head.
“Wait... why isn’t Tim with Ellie?”Shreya asked walking over to stroke the frogs back.
“I’m not sure...” Atlas said deep in thought.
“Maybe Tim can bring us to Ellie!” Beckett said and walked up lifting the slimey pet into his hand
“hey bud, can you find Ellie for us?” Beckett asked the Gorge.
“blug” the frog blinked slowly at the student and looked at him with confusion.
“Here lemmie try and get him to go to the either to find her.” Griffin replied taking Beckett’s place with the frog in his own hand this time.
“Come on little guy, can you go to the either to check on Ellie for us?” Griffin asked
The only response they got was...
“Blurged” Tim’s eyes slowly flutter asleep and they all sigh.
Every instinct in Beckett’s body told him something was wrong but he couldn’t tell what. Ellie was with Alma and the Dean and they all knew they could trust them.
They where on her side after all.
Atlas takes Tim in her hand and starts to examine him and Beckett notices Tim isn’t like himself. He’s more stoic and he’s usually very cheery and bubbly like Ellie but something was off.
“We should go to Professor Kontos...” She says briefly, only to be met by confused faces.
“Why? Professor Kontos doesn’t have anything to do with this.” Shreya exclaimed, clearly starting to worry more.
“Professor Kontos’ class is where Ellie got Tim, right?”
They all nod.
“Well Tim isn’t being himself and if anyone knows how to figure out what’s wrong, it’s him.”
“She has a point” Beckett said tapping his chin and the others agree it was a solid plan and walk towards his office.
Tumblr media
Atlas frantically knocks on the greenhouse door to the Professor’s office and the door swings open.
“What on earth is wrong here Ms. Erndhart?” He looks around at your group before turning back to Atlas.
“I need you to check on Tim, he doesn’t seem like himself and I’m worried.” Atlas replied.
“Where is Ellie? It’s her Familiar after al-“
A gasp escapes his mouth before he could finish his sentence.
“What?” They all say in usion as he continues to search the small animal.
He motions you with his finger to join him inside, not breaking his gaze from the frog.
You all walk inside to the various plants and herbs growing inside.
“...Do you mind telling me where Ellie is.”
“She’s uh... with the Dean right now.” Shreya replied trying to avoid the plant that’s attempting to sniff her hair.
“That’s strange...”
“What?”
“It seems as though Ellie has completely lost her emotional and spiritual connection to Tim.”
What??!! Beckett’s confusion and worry skyrocket as he explains.
“This sort of thing only happens if the Owner loses any recognition of the familiar or...”
“Or what?” Griffin demands.
“...or the owner is dead.” He finishes.
“Are you kidding me?!? Ellie isn’t dead, we know that much.” Zeph said walking up and taking Tim to pet his cold skin.
“I’m terribly sorry, but if you so desire, one of you can take Tim as your own until if or when Ellie is able to regain her connection with him.”
“I will.” Beckett said without hesitation.
I will?!
Zeph hands Tim to Beckett and he just stares up at him.
“Blurh.”
Don’t worry buddy, we’ll get Ellie back very soon.
Tumblr media
A few minutes prior
Alma & Swan
“Hurry!”
“I’m trying!!”
Alma rushes The Dean to carry Ellie out of her room. Ellie was still unconscious and was completely limp as Swan struggled to carry her.
“Oh here I’ll do it.” Alma doesn’t wait for a response and picks up Ellie and lifts her over her shoulder and starts walking towards the mirror room of the hospital.
“Ok then..” Swan follows, still nervous and clammy. She didn’t know how the Pend Pals would react to this. Alma had convinced her this was for her safety but she didn’t know how this would effect her happiness. The amount of growth she saw in Ellie from the first day to now was a sight for sore eyes. She watched Ellie make wonderful friends and save the world, she didn’t want to make Ellie leave that all but Alma said otherwise. They had preformed that spell last minute and quickly rushed to cover it up. Alma apparently had a plan and now Swan would have to tell everyone a lie to also cover it up.
And who am I to go up against the source of all Blood Magick...
“Evelyn? Did you hear me?” Alma said quirking an eyebrow at her as they stood in front of the mirror.
“Huh?!” She snapped her head towards Alma. “Oh sorry, can you repeat that?”
She sighed.
“I need you to use metal magick to open this to Ellie’s childhood home, I know you’ve been there to check on her as a kid so you should have no problem.” She said.
“Oh, okay.” She answered, to afraid to go against her orders.
Swan walks up to the mirror and starts making small hand gestures to conjure the metal magick into the mirror. Her hands softly glow with a faint grey shine to them as the mirror starts to turn into a picture of Ellie’s bedroom. Swan tests the mirror by placing her index finger on the surface of it. Her finger slightly sinks into it and she nods at Alma before walking through.
The room was quite nice, it had fairy lights hung around the room and the bed laid neatly made in the center of the room with a nice window and desk off to the side. The walls where a pale yellow and there where several pictures and plants decorated around the room. Alma swiftly walks over to the bed and lays Ellie down while Swan closes the mirror.
“Whose there?!” They heard Ellie’s foster mother, Mrs. Valentine calling from outside her door.
“It’s Evelyn.” She answered not wanting to scare her. Swan and Ellie’s foster mother where mutual friends through Theia during their college years and became closer when she and her husband took Ellie in. “We have Ellie in here on her bed and her, uh... friend accompanied us.” She added as Ellie’s foster mother walked in.
“Oh my!” She said at the sight of Ellie. “What happened?!”
“Well, you see Ellie was at a tea par-“
“She got hurt during battle and lost her memory, we need you to keep her here and treat her as if she never went to Pendergast. If she starts to remember things, tell Evelyn.” Alma briefly said.
“Way to be subtle about it...” Swan murmured to Alma while Ms. Valentine looks sadly at her daughter.
“What? She’ll remember us right?” They nodded. “Why can’t you retrieve her memories?? There has to be something!” Mrs. Valentine said walking over to sit on the bed and stroke Ellie’s hair.
“We could, but it would take a week or so for her to fully recover from the side effects and the effects of the spell she was attacked with. That’s why I need her here to heal.” She replied.
“Evelyn?” Her mother quirked a brow at her trying to get a second opinion.
“Uh. Yes, she’s right. It’s for the best.”
The group goes over more details of what she needs to do while Ellie is there and to contact them when she wakes up and how she is feeling. Ms. Valentine nods sadly and they open the mirror to walk back to the hospital.
“What will we tell Atlas and the rest of the group?” Swan questions trying to keep up with Alma’s brisk pace.
“Simply tell them she’s recovering and that they don’t need to worry, it’s none of their business anyway.”
“No you don’t understand, Atlas especially won’t stop there. The rest of her friends are just as concerned to and they won’t stop at ‘it’s not their business.’”
Alma sighed.
“Just figure it out, I blocked the mirrors in Ellie’s house and area after we left so they can’t find her, just tell them she’s safe and don’t say another word.” Alma replied.
Guess I can do that.
“Even though I won’t tell them anything I’m going to avoid them so I-“
“Swan!!” She heard Atlas yell from behind her.
Just lovely...
Beckett, Zeph, And Atlas jog up to the pair with worried expressions.
“Where’s Ellie?” Zeph asked.
“Yeah, you left!” Atlas added.
“Is Ellie safe?” Beckett’s forehead creased as he looked at them.
“I’m uh- I just- she!- I mean.” Swan stutterd
Oh boy, this is gonna be a lot harder than I thought...
A Rip in Time Chapter 2
Hello again! Like I said, there’s a link to this work on ao3 if you’d like to read it on there. Check the masterpost to find it.
Assuming, that is, that future Matt Holt ever stopped eating. It didn’t seem like he would - he was currently shovelling an insane number of donuts into his mouth at high speeds; he was clearly one of two things: extremely hungry, or excited about donuts. The reality was both. Not only was (future) Matt Holt hungry, it had also been a long time since he’d seen a donut, much less had one.
“Are ye done yet, kid? We’ve got questions.” Commander Iverson glared at the kid - well, at Matt; kid didn’t really fit anymore.
“Almost,” said future Matt Holt through a mouthful of donuts. “And I’m sure I’ve got answers, Commander.” Swallowing, Matt added, “There’s a lot to go through, so I’m going to need the devices I brought with me.”
“You aren’t getting those until we figure out what they are.”
“They’re databases that I’ve stored visual aids on, Commander. Nothing dangerous, basically the alien equivalent of a stored powerpoint.”
Iverson shook his head. “Still need to get them cleared first.”
“Then I guess I’ll be eating donuts until you do.”
Iverson practically growled at that. Other Matt, Sam, and Shiro - watching from behind a two-way mirror - glanced at each other and did their best to hold in their laughter. It wasn’t a joke, and if it had been it wouldn’t’ve been a funny one, but confusion has an interesting effect on one’s sense of humor.
Two hours later, someone managed to stop by with the devices future Matt Holt had brought with him. At that point, Iverson escorted future Matt to the debriefing room where several people - including the members of the Kerberos mission (and Adam, Katie, and Colleen Holt) were already waiting.
“Alright, kid. What’s this all about?” asked Iverson. “We’d like the short version, please.”
“Of course, Commander. That’s why I needed my trusty visual aids to keep me on track.”
Taking a deep breath, Matt tapped the Altean device, triggering a holographic image of Kerberos to appear. “Everything you think you know is about to change. There’s an entire universe out there - and there’s more to it than we could ever have imagined. Years ago - for me, anyway - Kerberos was the farthest a human had ever traveled. The mission was supposed to be an embodiment of everything we had achieved, of how far humanity had advanced. Instead, it turned into a showing of how little we really knew.” A breath as everyone in the room waited for him to continue. “The Kerberos mission was successful up until a single point - and it was a big one.”
Matt tapped the device projecting an image of Kerberos, and a video feed began to play. It was the video recorded during the Kerberos mission, the one that had proved to Katie Holt that the Galaxy Garrison was lying to everyone about what had really happened on Kerberos. After it played, Matt had the transmission the Galaxy Garrison had picked up play as well.
The room was full of shocked faces, Sam, Matt and Shiro most of all - Adam, standing slightly behind and away from Shiro, reached out as if to touch Shiro on the shoulder, stopping at the last moment.
“What-” Iverson began, but (future) Matt cut him off with a wave of his hand.
“I’m not quite finished yet, Commander.” He smiled, but it was thin and very clearly fake. Old memories are painful to remember at the best of times, and this most certainly could not be considered the best of times.
“Once the Galaxy Garrison caught that video and transmission, they told the public a lie - they claimed the Kerberos mission had crashed due to pilot error, and left it at that. A military funeral - closed casket because there weren’t any bodies - was held, during which the,” - here his voice broke slightly - “family members and loved ones were allowed to say goodbye. For the next few years, the world believed that Takashi Shirogane, Matt Holt, and Sam Holt were dead. Some people had suspicions that the Galaxy Garrison wasn’t telling the truth, but most of them kept quiet. My sister was not one of them - in a sense, anyway. She illegally hacked into the Galaxy Garrison’s computers and managed to see that footage before she was caught and banned from the premises. An amount of time later, she ran away and - also illegally - enrolled in the Galaxy Garrison as Pidge Gunderson, and cut her hair to add to the illusion.
“Another amount of time later - sorry for not knowing the specifics, I was busy trying not to die on an alien ship - Shiro escaped from the aliens that had captured us, the ones known as the Galra. He crashed on Earth, near the Galaxy Garrison. The Garrison wanted him sedated and quarantined, but he had an urgent message and begged them to listen to him. They didn’t but before they could completely sedate him, former Garrison cadet Keith Kogane broke into the Galaxy Garrison and, with help from a few other cadets - including my sister - got him out and safely away from pursuing Garrison forces.
“There they discovered a secret cavern and an alien ship - the Blue Lion. Shiro, Pidge, Lance, Hunk, and Keith ended up leaving the planet on the ship once it activated for Lance. At that point, they accidentally traveled through a wormhole and discovered what Voltron was. I’m not going to go into specifics of how, exactly, they managed to get there, but know that they did. And the universe is in a much better place because of it.
“Voltron is a superweapon, and the universe’s only hope. It is made of five mechanical lions, piloted by the five paladins. Because of some strange - we’ll call it magic - known as Altean Alchemy, the lions are practically sentient beings; they choose their paladins, and they activate only for those they choose to. Working as a team, the five paladins - and the lions they are in - can fight separately or form Voltron. The current paladins are as follows: in the black lion, Keith, in the red lion, Lance, in the green lion, Pidge, in the yellow lion, Hunk, and in the blue lion, Allura, who is an alien and not someone you’d know.” Here (future) Matt paused for another breath, ignoring the stunned faces around him. “Don’t worry, Commander, I’ll make this last part quick.
“Together, the paladins have worked together to save the universe an impressive number of times. They’ve faced robeasts, fleets of starships, and have adapted at an incredible speed for people who were thrown into this world without warning. I’m not going to go into detail about each battle they’ve fought because there’s not enough time, but know this; each of the paladins has proven time and time again that they are willing to do whatever it takes - and I mean whatever it takes - to save the universe. They are heroes, and they are a symbol of hope to the entire universe.
“Right now, a time slip is occurring - people from my time are going to start appearing here, where you are. This includes some less-than-friendly aliens, but also allies as well. Some chaotically accurate math informed us that I’d be the first here - so, as I have done, I was to inform you generally of what has occurred in the future. I’m also supposed to - and plan on - helping bolster the defenses on this planet so we’ll be a little more prepared when the bad guys start arriving. I’m going to need your full cooperation for this, though - can I expect that, or am I going to have to go rogue again?”
Everyone stared at him, shock coating their features. “I’ll, uh, give you a moment,” (future) Matt said awkwardly, deactivating the device still projecting photos of the five paladins (and Shiro).
Several moments later, Sam said, “So the first time we encountered alien lifeforms, they were hostile?”
(Future) Matt nodded. “The Galra Empire goes through the universe and colonizes - or destroys - plants and their inhabitants are usually forced to work for the empire. There is a small group of galra known as the Blade of Marmora that the Voltron Coalition works closely with. They’re on our side. Heck, one of their members is a paladin.”
Iverson asked a more pragmatic question. “And there are hostile aliens coming here? Because of this time slip?”
(Future) Matt nodded. “They’re coming, but so are the paladins and the Atlas. There’s not a lot we’ll be able to do to prepare before they get here - assuming Slav’s math is correct - but we’ll do what we can. I’ll do what we can.”
“Alright,” said Iverson. “What do we need to do?”
VLD S8E12: The Zenith
Season 8 Episode 12: The Zenith
Transcript by @dragonofyang
Summary: With the combined power of the Sincline mech and the black Altean mech, Honerva pierces through realities to find her perfect universe, forcing the Atlas crew and the Paladins of Voltron to chase her across realities as they slowly become unraveled.
[Google Doc]
Keith: Paladins, report status.
Lance: I’m offline!
Pidge: Me, too.
Hunk: Uh, guys, are you seeing this?
Lance: What are those things doing?
Pidge: That’s how she’s getting in.
Keith: What do you mean?
Pidge: Honerva! She’s using those wings to pierce the barriers between realities. It’s her entry point!
[Cut to the IGF-Atlas.]
Shiro: Allura, come in. Are you there?
Allura: Shiro, I read you. Honerva combined her beast with Lotor’s Sincline. She has the comet ore, and with it, the ability to traverse realities. I’m headed to my lion now.
[Cut to Hunk, Coran, Romelle, and Tavo inside Yellow Lion.]
Coran: Our universe is collapsing, just like the day we lost the Castle of Lions. Those wings are causing the very fabric of our reality to disintegrate!
Hunk: Then we’re gonna stop that thing before it breaks through. Yellow Lion’s back!
Keith: Hunk, get your passengers back to the Atlas.
Hunk: Copy that.
[Cut to Merla as she awakens.]
Honerva: My loyal warriors, Merla proved disloyal. She turned her back on our mission and the future of Altea. But you two have remained by my side, and you will know true victory. The glory of Altea will be yours.
[Cut to the Lions as they power on.]
Pidge: Those robeasts are headed our way! Just in time! My lion’s responding!
Lance: Mine, too.
Keith: Allura, do you copy? Can you get to your lion? We’re gonna need Voltron.
Allura: Hold on. I’m coming!
[Cut to the IGF-Atlas.]
Shiro: In the meantime, the Atlas has you covered.
Coran: Wait, what about the collapsing universe? We need to stop it!
Keith: Coran, we’re counting on you to figure something out.
Coran: What? Me? I don’t know anything about that?
Keith: Then find someone who does! We need to stop that weapon before it breaks through realities. Paladins, do everything you can to keep the robeasts distracted. Let’s give the Atlas a shot.
Shiro: Atlas crew, prepare for transformation sequence.
[Cut to the lions as they fight the mechs.]
Lance: Nice shot!
Keith: Guys, I’m going in to stop Honerva!
Honerva: Still.
Keith: No!
[Cut to Coran, Romelle, Tavo, and other Atlas crew as they float through a hallway.]
Iverson: MFE pilots, report to your hangars! Stand by for launch!
Coran: I have an idea how we can stop the collapsing of space-time. I’ll grab Slav and Sam. You two get the Alteans and meet me back here in ten doboshes!
[Cut back to the lions as they fight the mechs.]
Hunk: Now, Pidge!
Keith: Fall back!
Shiro: Allura, now’s your chance!
Keith: We can’t get past them, so we’re gonna have to defeat them. Paladins, on me! Form Voltron!
Allura: Remember, those weapons can siphon our energy, so we need to avoid a direct hit.
Keith: Pidge, arm cannon!
Pidge: It’s the Altean!
Lance: Why is she helping us?
Merla: Please, do not harm them. They were misguided, much like I was. We all were!
Keith: Pilot capsule still intact.
Honerva: No!
[Cut to the IGF-Atlas.]
Coran: We need an escort to Honerva’s pyramid structure!
Shiro: What? Right now?
Slav: Yes! The sooner we go, the higher the probability that we can use the Alteans to stop the impending space-time rupture!
Coran: It’s actually similar to how we stopped the rupture when Voltron entered the quintessence field.
Sam: Only this time, that superstructure will be the energy amplification conductor and the Alteans will be the energy source.
Coran: Though, we’re still working out how to transfer their quintessence into the structure, but, you know, some things are just gonna have to be figured out on the fly!
Shiro: Get a team in place.
[Cut to the Altean mech and Voltron fighting.]
Keith: Final robeast out of commission! Hunk, form cannon!
Hunk: I’ve got lock!
Allura: Honerva has pierced realities.
Keith: Come on, we’re going in! Atlas, stay on me!
Coran: I’m afraid the Atlas can’t do that.
Pidge: Coran’s right. It isn’t made out of the same ore. It can’t traverse realities.
Keith: Then we’re going in alone.
Slav: Actually, that appears to be problematic as well.
Keith: What?
Slav: The statistical likelihood of Voltron succeeding against Honerva in a one-on-one battle is well below improbable.
Allura: We’ll have a better chance than if we don’t try at all. Balmera.
Lance: What’s going on?
Coran: It’s a convuldrum, the converging of Balmeras.
Lance: What called them here?
Hunk: Shay.
Coran: Quiznak!
Shiro: What just…?
Hunk: Whoa!
Lance: No way!
Pidge: This is crazy!
Allura: I don’t know what just happened, but now we have a chance.
Keith: Let’s stop Honerva.
Shiro: Coran, we’ll need you to secure the area and find a way to suppress this rift.
Coran: Yes, sir!
[Cut to Coran in the rebel ship.]
Coran: Wait! I know how to get the Altean energy into the structure. Drop Sam, Slav, and I off at the pyramid. Then I’ll need you to take the Alteans to the Balmera.
Slav: You’re wearing the right socks today, aren’t you?
[Cut to the Atlas/Voltron fusion mech as it passes through the rift.]
Allura: Is this…
Pidge: It’s an alternate Altea.
Lance: And it looks like this reality is crumbling, just like ours!
Hunk: How come it’s disintegrating so quickly?
Pidge: Those wings created a sort of cosmic tunnel in one blast. The rift must lead directly to the reality Honerva’s been looking for.
Shiro: And any reality that those wings bored through is falling apart.
Keith: We have to keep going!
[Scene change to Coran, Slav, Sam, and the Alteans entering the pyramid.]
Coran: We must hurry!
Sam: Okay, I think this is it. Powering the amplification module.
Slav: I’ll redirect the target to the rift. If we hit it with enough energy, it should seal.
Coran: Are the Alteans in place?
N-7: They are set.
[Scene change to an alternate Altea.]
Allura: All these innocent lives. There’s no limit to what Honerva will do or the lives she’ll tear apart to get what she wants.
Shiro: That’s why we need to stop her.
Allura: Even then, I fear she’s started a chain reaction that can never be undone.
[Cut to the Balmera convuldrum.]
Coran: We’re in place! Balmeras, channel your energy into the pyramid! Yes, it’s working! The channeled energy from the Balmeras seems to be holding the rift together.
[Cut to the Atlas-Voltron mech.]
Keith: Countermeasures! Form sword!
[Cut to the bridge of Oriande.]
Sam: Our current power level isn’t enough to maintain the rift!
Coran: Then we’ll hold it as long as we can! Every tick gives Voltron a chance.
Krolia: Coran, it’s Krolia. What can we do to help?
Coran: Krolia! Kolivan! Thank the ancients you’re here! We need all the energy we can harness to prevent the rift from expanding further.
Krolia: Copy that! Galra fleet, adjust the frequency of your ion cannons and aim at the pyramid structure.
Coran: Come on, please. A little longer! Voltron needs us.
[Cut to Honerva in her mech.]
Honerva: This is where it ends for you!
Lance: We need to get up.
Hunk: I can’t move.
Shiro: The ship’s not responding.
Allura: Honerva, she’s absorbed all our strength.
Pidge: This reality… it’s over.
Keith: No. We’ve always done the impossible. Our strength is our bond. Our power comes from each other. As long as we’re a team, we stand a chance. Sendak. Zarkon. Lotor. We’ve saved our universe countless times, but now all the realities are in need of Voltron. So this isn’t the end just yet. We need to get back up and stop Honerva once and for all! Fire boosters!
[Cut to the bridge of Oriande.]
Sam: The Galra fleet have depleted all their energy, and the Balmerans and Alteans are at their limit. At this rate, we won’t be able to contain the rift!
[Cut back to the Atlas-Voltron mech as it approaches the shrinking rift, then cut to Honerva’s mech emerging into deep space as she approaches Daibazaal.]
Zarkon: You’re getting faster.
Sendak: Not half as fast as the emperor.
Zarkon: Stay back! What’s your name?
Honerva: You don’t recognize me? I’ve searched beyond the stars to be here.
Zarkon: I said stay back!
Honerva: To be with you. And to be with my son.
Zarkon: Honerva. Is it truly you?
Honerva: It is.
Zarkon: I never thought I’d see you again.
Honerva: I never doubted. My memory of you and Lotor kept me alive. Tell me, where is my child?
[Scene change to the bridge of a Galra ship headed for Altea.]
Zarkon: I vowed to raise our son as you would have wanted. He excels in his Altean studies. Lotor has his mother’s intellect.
Alfor: Empress Honerva… It is an honor to see you once more. All of Altea will cherish this day.
Allura: Please, come with me. Your son awaits your presence.
Honerva: My son.
Lotor: Mother?
Honerva: Please, my child, come to me.
Lotor: No.
Zarkon: Lotor, it’s okay. It’s your mother. She has returned.
Lotor: She’s not my mother!
Honerva: I may appear changed, but I assure you, my love for you is that of a mother for her child. Come to me.
Lotor: She is not my mother.
Zarkon: Don’t speak like that.
Honerva: Please.
Lotor: No. My mother is dead and you cannot replace her!
Zarkon: Perhaps this is overwhelming for the boy. Please, if we had some time…
Honerva: Time? You speak to me of time? I’ve spent lifetimes trying to get back. Countless worlds have fallen in the wake of my efforts to return to you. And this is how you welcome me? My own child, my own husband question who I am? I have sacrificed more than you will ever know!
Zarkon: What is that?
Honerva: No, it cannot be!
Zarkon: You brought this abomination upon us? You are not the empress. You are not my wife! Guards! Guards!
Honerva: If there is no place in this universe for me, then there will be no universe at all.
End.
Water and Ice- Chapter 6: Let me Protect You
Back in Beacon, I have met a boy, then everything dawned on me. He may not have remembered me when we first met in Poseidon Island. The land of seas. There, he has eyes, blue as the deep ocean. Blue hair as bright as the morning sky. The moment I held his hand when we gazed at the meteorites, I can feel the warmth through his aura. Such a funny and cocky personality. What I feel fond of him for is that he never asked for my name, nor did he came after me for my status as an heiress. I have one desire, and one thing only. To let him know how I feel for him. But how can I if I am not the right person he can choose? But now, all I saw was a struggling soul beneath his own cockiness. I knew he lost someone important to him. All I want to do now is to stay by his side, until the very end. But will he feel the same for me? After my sister is about to go after him? For what his brother has done? Either to help Winter catch Neptune, or to help him escape and find his brother? I love my sister, but I cannot let her bring him to justice. I think he's already suffered enough as it is. Neptune, I know you asked me not to follow you. But please give me a sign you're still around the island. I don't want you to die. Let me be there for you. Weiss is sitting in front of a firepit to warm herself up for the night.
Her thoughts began to roam in her mind. Now that her sister deemed the man she holds dear as a suspect. First he teamed up with her to find the answers about the Thunderbolts. After the lies Winter spread in the news. Meant to lure the Thunderbolts. Winter had been there for her when their mother couldn't. Defended her from their father. But when she left for Atlas Academy, Weiss has never felt lonelier in her life. She cannot meet eye-to-eye with either of her family members. Until she went to Beacon Academy to get away from it all. There she met Ruby Rose, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long. They became a team and the best of friends any girl can ask for. Standing by them to fight for freedom and peace.
Currently, her younger brother is working things out with their mother after she put their father in jail. Starting little by little to his recovery from what their father have put them all through. Still, the siblings are still not yet in speaking terms. Now that her elder sister is clenching to her duties as a general. Weiss cannot seem to bring herself to talk to her due to their differences.
Still, she does not want her to arrest the man who melted her frozen heart. Then the thoughts went on, tears stream from her eyes. She left her team to recuperate from the events; the Fall of Beacon, Battle in Haven, and Atlas. Who will she choose, Winter, or Neptune? She cried herself to sleep. Chills blew on her spine. But it didn't matter to her.
"Hey Schnee, wake up." She is then shaken awake when somebody is talking to her. Her eyes fluttered when she felt like someone is placing a hand on her shoulder. She roses up from the log she used as a pillow and rubbed her eyes. Hoping it was Neptune. Her vision went blurry at first. But when she blinked, she sees Drey. "Looks like the snowflake awakens."
"Oh no, not you." Weiss gasped. Hastily drawing her Myrtenaster and leapt backwards. But Drey raised his hand in defense, showing that he surrenders for a moment. "I'm not here to harm you." He assured her. But Weiss did not seem to believe him. But puts away her blade to hear his side of the story.
"Cut the act, Brandwood. I already know you and Rick are spying on us." She snarled.
"I came here to warn you. I saw you with Neptune earlier, and it looks like you're the only person he can trust."
"Why are you telling me this? What does that have to do with him?"
"What I'm saying is that you need to get Neptune off this island right now. Ricks' going to hunt him down and kill him to end his bloodline." Weiss eyes widened when she heard this. Another person hunting him down. But why would an enemy like Drey warn her? Then she has a theory that he has a soft spot. Not willing to do what Rick says.
"But why would you follow Rick? For all I know, you and him attempted to torment Neptune. And what do you mean ending his bloodline?" Drey turns around before he could spoke a word. He sighed to brace himself for the revelation.
"I cannot give you the full details about Neptune. But I can tell you this. I only followed Rick because not only he's my best friend. But he's also my cousin. My mother and his father are siblings. When we were young, he used to stood up for me. We make trouble together. I wasn't willing to do anything bad to the guy. But I go along with it because I owe everything to him. But as we got older, he changed. I don't know what he has against Vasilias, but it started when my uncle got killed in a cruising accident. The same day his brother, Jupiter Vasilias, disappeared along with his huntsmen team. After his semblance was unlocked, it's like his eyes are burning with pure hatred. And he blamed him for a reason." Drey explained, feeling ashamed to ever be related to the arrogant huntsman.
"Why didn't you report him when things got this bad? Why not giving him the help he needed?" Weiss glared. Wishing that he would've done it sooner.
"It would mean losing the best and only friend I ever had. He'll hate me for it." Drey responded in sadness. The he turns back to her. "I have to go, or Rick will find out. Get Vasilias off the island while you still have the chance. I'll try to stall him while you're at it." He begged. Leaving Weiss in desperation to save Neptune from the would-be assailant. Drey puts out the fire to not leave any traces that would led his cousin to kill his rivals. Weiss begins to understood the fact that being close to a family member would mean a sever bond, between parents, siblings, and cousins. And she and Drey are one of those people who're not willing to betray their loved ones.
Sorry Rick, but I can't let you do this. What else can I do to have you let this hatred go? He thought. Staring at the former heiress as she runs. Pulling out her Myrtenaster once again.
The next morning, Weiss keeps rushing through the island. Everywhere around is all too quiet. Since the other huntsmen and huntresses are petrified and taken to the Atlas Hospital for recovery. Neptune, where are you? Please. She thought pleading to herself for his safety. "Neptune, where are you!" She shouts. Needing the response. But all she hears is nothing but silence. To the point that Neptune has already decided not to involve anyone he cared about because of his reasons of searching for his brother. But this got Weiss thinking if Jupiter is truly a Thunderbolt. Why was Neptune blaming himself for his vanishing? It could've been an accident, at least not on purpose. She then questions herself about his bloodlines. And why would Rick wanted to end it? Could it be that there is a connection between Rick's father and Jupiter. As they both got caught on the accident on the same night. Nevertheless, she has to convince him to let her help him connect the dots.
Meanwhile, Neptune is back into the Colosseum, where he was still trying to touch the water before he can look further for his brother. Until he heard footsteps. He could tell somebody is following him. "I know you're out there. Come out." He said coldly, Weiss didn't hesitate to come out for his sake. "I've been looking for you, Neptune!" He looked up to the upper right corner to see Weiss standing on the pillar. She then jumps off and lands in a perfect form.
"What are you doing here? I told you to go back to Atlas." Weiss ignored this and shook her head in response.
"Never mind that, Neptune. We need to get off the island immediately." He turned away again.
"I can't, I have to find..."
"I know. I could already see how you felt. But you need to listen. Rick Argo is coming to kill you if we don't escape."
"Fine by me. I can take care of him myself."
"You're never going to stand much against him. Drey have me fully aware of how dangerous he is. You should know that there is a reason he has a grudge against you. And he won't stop."
"You can leave if you want to, Weiss. I'll take him down by myself." He shot a cold glare at her. Acting tough for a man with aquaphobia. Weiss isn't having it, so she has to take drastic matters. "If you won't listen to me, then you left me no choice." She then spun her revolver on her Myrtenaster. Summoning a platform to form earth objects from the ground underneath Neptune. But he jumps backward and lands near the walls. And Weiss stikes lunging. Neptune avoids her again by flipping back into the air.
"I guess there's no other way to convince you, huh? You know the strength of my glyphs!" Weiss gave him one final warning. "Don't you understand? I don't want you to die, Neptune!"
"Oh, yeah?! Try me, Snow Angel!" He called her by that nickname. But with no effect. Despite that his weapon is at a disadvantage, it's still enough for defense. Blocking her slashes.
Weiss has the upper hand by summoning her Armored Gigas. The projection then swung its sword at Neptune. But he transform his guandano into a trident in his Tri-hard. Stab it on the back of its head and making a huge electric barrier to make it dissipate. He then lands on the water. Which he wasn't aware of, since he's too busy fighting.
Weiss landed there to collide her blade with his spear. "I'm tired of fighting with you already, just give it up!" She said.
"I have to find Jupiter one way or another. I am not afraid of death! Now get out of the way!" He pushes back.
"No!" But she also pushed back holding him on the position. "That's enough!" Neptune didn't realized that the water is reacting to his body for defense. Catching her off guard, and pushes it at Weiss, knocking her to another pillar. "Ahh!" She screamed. He then realized what he has done, and rushes towards Weiss to see if she's okay. "Weiss...Weiss!" He held her into his arms. She felt her head hurt for seconds before regaining consciousness. Opening her eyes and gazed at him sadly.
"I'm sorry for being so selfish, Neptune. After Beacon, and Haven fell, anybody we knew and cared about has either lost their minds, or their lives. The truth is, I don't want to lose you." Weiss does not hesitate to cry onto his shoulder. Neptune felt guilty for hurting her, and not letting her help him when he needed it.
"Oh, Weiss." Neptune said softly. Wrapping his arms around her to console Weiss. He has no idea what she has been through over her journeys. How traumatic those experiences must be. "Neptune." She sobbed. "There's nothing for you to be sorry for. If anyone's apologizing, it should be me. I am an idiot, okay? I don't like to let anybody get hurt or killed because of me. I should've told you this a long time ago. I wasn't honest with myself." He felt her body shaking from all the sobbing, still in fear that he could get hurt. He never saw her cry before. Weiss has been very composed and more focus, sometimes bossy, she has yet to show any emotion towards him. But this time, she did.
Weiss looked up at him. He wiped the tear from her left cheek. Calming her down. To assure that he'll be fine. He lifts her up and asks her, "Why don't we get back to Argus and take a break?" Much to her relief. She nods. He held her hand to lead her back to the bay and waited for the ferry to come. Weiss looked back at the island, worried what might come to Drey since he warned her of his cousin's insanity. Then she and Neptune boards the ferry and went back to Argus.
Voltron: Next Generation
Brittle Relations: II
The Coeus appeared on the other side of the wormhole with the beauty and grace of ocean liners. Its splendor, even in ruin, could rival its sister ship, the Atlas. Its beauty could not, however, make the trip enjoyable for its crew onboard. While the Coeus remained intact, many of the teens in the bridge were having a hard time staying intact. Many of them were green, holding their stomachs or covering their mouths with their hands to hold down their lunch. Cake gagged, trying in vain to stop his lunch from coming back up. As he gagged, it made Liz begin to do so. Kova took deep breaths, calming her stomach. Caleb and Allie were matching shades of green, gripping their consoles to control themselves.
"We are NEVER traveling through a wormhole after lunch again." Kova had shut her eyes in hopes of calming her stomach. And will. With various forms of agreement from the others and a retch from Cake's direction, the teens fled to their rooms. Kenny watched the entire scene unfold from the comfort of the engine room with a plate of sliced fruit in front of him. He scoffed as they fled, shaking his head as he took a bite of one of the slices. It turned into mush in his mouth, but at least it wasn't moldy.
"Please, I implore you, I must speak to the half-Galra," Darrar's voice shook as he spoke to Shiro through the glass of his makeshift prison.
"Like I've said before, whatever you need to say to them, you can say to me." Shiro was firm, with arms at his side. Darrar still wore his dark armor, while Shiro wore his Colonel Jacket. Darrar's violet hair had been held back by a scrap of fabric in an updo, messy after days onboard. The poor man looked defeated and desperate, begging with his dim eyes. Shiro's stone cold expression softened slightly as he turned to look at something off to his side. As Darrar noticed Shiro's wavering expression, he tried to look at whatever it was. The edges and corners of the glass obscured the being too much for the Galtean to really see them.
"Who is there?" Darrar pleaded, banging on the glass. "Please, summon the half-Galra!"
"Enough!" Shiro said over the pleading, silencing Darrar. He sighed. "Enough." Without another word, Shiro walked away from Darrar, who slammed the glass as he realized he was being left alone again. His shouts were met with withering silence as the steps grew silent. Darrar collapsed on the ground, tears brimming his eyes as the realization hit him like the cold metal floor.
He was as good as dead. Yorak won the war without even trying.
Far away, a voice alerted the crew of a landing, but Darrar could only hear the blood rushing in his ears and the almost silent hum of the Coeus. As Darrar closed his eyes to attempt to sleep, screams echoed in his mind. His fellow cadets when they began training for running away. His mother when he and his brothers were torn away from her. Seklok's when he displeased the Emperor and left for dead. As the screams overtook him, he was shaken violently. His whimpers became screams as he tried to fight off whatever was dragging him away.
Kova held on to Darrar's shoulders as his screams stopped and his eyes opened. His shaking never stopped. Neither did his tears. The poor man was tortured enough. Behind Kova, Allie clutched the first-aid kit with tight fists. They heard the screaming and ran towards the observation bay. As Darrar sat up, Kova dragged him towards the closest wall. Sitting on the floor, Allie and Kova calmed the man down. Both Allie and Darrar seemed to process the other's Altean markings at the same time.
"It's okay," Kova whispered under her breath. "It'll be okay." Kova slipped a bracelet on Darrar's wrist, activating the magnetic field. Even if they were on the same side, Darrar still wore enemy colors.
"Who are you?" Darrar asked Kova, then turning to Allie. "Where's the Colonel?" Allie didn't meet his eyes, unpacking the first-aid kit. Kova met his eyes after triple-checking the magnetic field had been activated on his bracelet.
"I'm Kovalia Shirogane, Paladin of the Black Lion. This is Allie, Paladin of the Blue Lion." Darrar's eyes widened, but Kova wasn't done. "I understand your name is Darrar, and you've been wanting to speak to me."
"Yes, of course. I—" Darrar tried to stand up, but his wrist kept him down. As he looked, a bracelet connected to the floor kept him down.
"I'm sorry, but it's a security measure." Darrar nodded his head, sitting back down. He looked up to meet Kova's eyes again. "We came to ask you about the colonies."
"Of course." Darrar nodded again. "Where are we?"
"We have just landed on Senfama. The Colonel decided it was best to join an expedition."
"Expedition?"
"I cannot answer what it is."
"Is it because I'm a member of the Fire?" Kova nodded her head.
"I am going to remove your armor piece by piece. Are you feeling any sensitivity or pain in any particular area?"
I'll spare you the details. It took two hours as Darrar flinched and twitched as the armor was removed, and Allie had to make sure he didn't have any injuries. Then when Darrar wore only his bodysuit, the girls put Keith's old poncho over Darrar's head to remove the bodysuit. The time was halved. Regardless, it took too long. With even more spare fabric, they made the baggiest pair of pants in the universe, using a long strip from the back of the poncho as a belt.
When they were done checking for injuries, they began their questions. What is the status of the Galtean colonies? Where are they? How long have the colonies been under Yorak's reign? What did he want with so many Galteans? How long had he been involved in the war?  On and on the interrogation went, until they had covered topics twice. Allie left to grab a bottle of water while Kova kept watch.
"I can help you get your Lion back," Darrar said after a few minutes of silence. Kova shook her head, taking something out of her pocket. It was a small black box with the Fire insignia on its side.
"You've been tracked." Kova handed Darrar the box. He looked stunned, confused even, to see the small box. "A similar tracker was found in the mecha we encountered."
"He knew," Darrar whispered under his breath. He handed the box to Kova, who put it back in her pocket. "He knew."
"Who?" Kova asked. "Yorak?" Darrar didn't say a word. Kova would have turned off the tracker, but she didn't have her tools on her. Allie came back and held a closed fist in front of Darrar. He held his hand open to see two little pills in his palm.
"They should help you sleep so you can heal a little faster," Allie explained, taking Kova's place so the latter could stand and dust herself off. "The water is for you." Darrar took the pills after a moment of hesitation, and had big gulps of water. "When you awake, alert us. Have a good rest, Darrar." Allie stood, following Kova to the door, letting it shut behind them. They dimmed the lights in Darrar's room and deactivated the bracelet. Hopefully, his commanders would find him before Yorak did.
"Coeus to crew, call in." Kova had walked to the bridge, turned on the screen, and began sorting the camera angles. "Sec."
"Here."
"Griffin."
"Here."
"Garrett."
"Here."
"Kogane."
"Here."
"Colonel and older Kogane."
"Double here." As the boxes lit up with every person calling in, Allie had typed in their names as the boxes lit up. When the Coeus landed on Senfama, the crew left in pairs. Caleb and Liz were in charge of water. Kenny and Cake were undergoing repairs to the ship and the satellite. Shiro and Keith had to search the planet for lifeforms and food. Allie and Kova stayed behind to watch over Darrar, and make some minor research. Why isn't Keith on the screen too? Kova was too lazy to connect Keith's suit to the Coeus's software.
"Did you deactivate the tracker?" Shiro asked.
"Yes, sir. I also saved the universe and found my Lion."
"Kova."
"I haven't gotten to it yet." Kova rolled her eyes, and looked for her tools. "We just got back."
"Sending map of Senfama to crew," Allie announced, and every camera on screen had looked down at their screens. "Senfama is a jungle. There should be a large body of water ahead."
"On it," Liz confirmed, jumping forward with Caleb on her heels. An alert came online, before the power was cut short.
"Hey, uh, Kova?" Kenny asked. "Is there any way to return to the Balmera and get more crystals?"
"Power source isn't holding up well, is it?"
"Nope." Kova fiddled with the tracker she found on Darrar, hoping an idea would come to mind.
"Random question, Ken." Kova looked up at the screen. "What did you do with the extra solar cells?"
"Solar what?" Keith asked, but he was ignored.
"How do you know about the missing solar cells?"
"Long story. Where are they?"
"I, uh, brought them onto the ship. Why?"
"Kenneth, I need you to think, okay?" Kova had leaned forward to rest her forearms on the railing around her console. "If wired correctly, solar cells can be made into..." Kova trailed off on purpose to let Kenny come with the answer.
"Solar panels!" Kenny and Cake exclaimed at the same time.
"I'll send the materials up." Kova nodded her head, and finally managed to deactivate the tracker. "Allie, cover me." Kova walked down to the engine room, leaving Allie alone on the bridge. Using the Paladin Tracker, or the Teenager Tracker, Allie watched as Liz and Caleb creeped closer to the water source and Shiro and Keith inched further from the Coeus. That's when the entire ship went dark.
"Kenny?" Allie's voice shook as she looked around. "Guys, this isn't funny!" Not even the hum of the ship answered her. With only the sunlight streaming in from the large windows, Allie walked up the stairs to the door. Before she could even leave the bridge, she heard Kova's voice.
"Get back in the bridge!" Kova yelled, and Allie listened. She and Kova were the only ones still wearing their normal clothes, so when Allie fell down the stairs to her seat, it hurt. Kova kicked, sending a figure cloaked in dark colors into the console. The figure went to punch Kova, but she side-stepped, Allie froze when she saw a flash of purple on the front armor piece of the dark figure. "Allie, your bayard!" Quick as can be, Allie summoned her bow, pulling the string back so the quintessence arrow could form. Now if they could stay still. Kova took a blow to her abdomen, collapsing on the ground. When the figure tried to pin her, Kova pulled the figure's leg out from under them. With a quick turn, Kova straddled the figure's hips from behind, holding their arm with one hand and used the other to push their shoulder to the floor.
"Are you alright?" Allie asked, limping up the steps.
"Fine." Kova gritted her teeth as the figure began resisting. "Do you know how long it's gonna take to replace all those wires? This ship is hard enough to maintain!" Kova began to rant. "Allie, help me pull their helmet off." Allie's eyes widened as she held the string taut, reminding Kova of the arrow. Kova nodded towards the door, so Allie aimed in the dark and fired the arrow. The ding could be heard around the world. As the bayard detransformed, the figure tried again in vain stand up, but Kova was faster. With their arm still in Kova's grasp, Kova reached around her back to grab the knife in its sheath. Allie had grabbed the matching pair of Darrar's bracelet from Kova's pocket and put it around the figure's right wrist, as it was the only one touching the ground. Letting go and standing up from the figure, Kova activated the magnet. As the figure stared at the bracelet holding them down, Kova pushed them against the console with the knife point at their neck.
"Deactivate your helmet or I rip it off," Kova growled, sneering at the figure and their dark outfit. The figure didn't move, so Allie pulled the helmet off their head. While Allie didn't recognize the Galra woman, Kova did. Her expression darkened while the Galra woman's softened.
"Kyla," The woman said. She got the knife point even closer to her neck and Kova's angry eyes.
"Call me that again and you lose your head." Kova stood after her threat, deactivated and collected the bracelet, and stood in front of the door. "Allie, this is Krolia, one of the Galra representatives."
"I'm not just that."
"You're right about that." Kova crossed her arms. "She's the reason a half-human and half-Galra exist in the first place."
"Oh, please." Krolia stood, rubbing her wrists. "You make it sound so bad." Kova scoffed in response.
"What are you doing here?" Kova reached behind her to sheath the knife. "I don't get the point." Allie silently died as the pun set in, but Krolia moved past it.
"I saw your declaration. Pretty impressive how far the family goes."
"We aren't family."
"I beg to differ, Kovalia." Krolia crossed her arms, too, leaning against the console. "Headstrong, advanced, and prefers using a sharp instrument."
"Get off the ship."
"I came for my recruit. Where is he?"
"I'm shocked you didn't see him as you cut the power to the entire ship." Kova stepped aside from the door. "Darrar, get your butt over here!" Footsteps became louder as they approached the bridge. Darrar had dressed himself in his Fire armor since there were no spares onboard. At least he had the decency to look sheepish at being caught.
"Daibazaal sides with Voltron," Krolia said as she passed the angry teen. "It's wonderful to see you again."
"Wish I could say the same." Kova blocked the hall leading to the transport bay, leaving only the side door as the only way out. "May we never encounter the other again." The door opened, and Darrar jumped out first. Krolia's eyes softened, hoping to appeal to the teen. Kova wasn't having it, watching as Krolia jumped out. Stomping over, Kova slammed the door shut, and marched herself to the cut power lines. Allie followed her, since the bridge was scary to be in alone.
"Why didn't you say anything about Keith?" Allie asked after Kova began her tedious work.
"What about Keith?" Kova continued working, connecting wires with electrical tape.
"There is only one half-human and half-Galra hybrid that reached an age to reproduce." Allie began her thought process. "That hybrid sired three children, and you have confirmed the status of all three second-generation hybrids. The first-born is a maniacal genius, the second-born is a plant genius, and the youngest, which is you, is a—"
"A wannabe genius," Kova said, slamming the door closed. As the door secured itself, the power slowly came on, with the lights turning on the brightest they go before returning to their pre-sliced state. "How did you figure out Kenny was the middle child?" Allie shrugged as they went into the bridge.
"Yorak has called you his sister many times before, and you've never denied it. He seems much older than Kenny, and you've never denied Kenny as your sibling, either." Kova chuckled as she approached the console and reactivated all systems.
"Sec to Coeus, do you hear me?"
"Coeus to Sec, we're all clear." Various sighs of relief and cheers came from the team as they continued their errands.
"Keith is your father, and Krolia is Keith's mother." Allie had made it to her chair, where she began checking her injuries. "You met your grandmother," Allie looked up. "And you didn't seem too happy to see her."
"I'm not." Kova muted the Coeus to properly look Allie in the eye. "She had a chance to change what had happened and she didn't." Kova shrugged, and unmuted the Coeus. Allie looked on as Kova smiled at Caleb's screen because he was one misstep away from falling into the water. While his suit may be waterproof, it wasn't float-proof."
By the end of the first day on Senfama, the teens celebrated finding edible food on a planet. That's a first. An alert came on while they celebrated, and Kova opened it. She expected it to be a systems alert, since they still haven't cleaned the Coeus's filters, or even an electrical failure (only Allie and Kova know what happened with Krolia and Darrar). Whatever it was, it should be fixed soon.
She was wrong and she alerted the team of such.
It was a weblum alert, and it was headed for Pidge's location.
REAPING OF ATLAS 2/3
RWBY Characters Are Created And Owned By Rooster Teeth And Monty Oum.
Team REAPS And All Original Characters In It's Universe Are Created And Owned By @dark-chocolate-fudge-sweetracer
"Are you sure they're okay? Acacia may have recovered physically, but emotionally and mentally-"
"They're fine, Professor Goodwitch," Arishna said in an irritable tone, "I know you love those kids, but I honestly think you're spoiling them too much. If you need someone to spoil-"
"Enough!" Glynda barked. Arishna loved it when she got stern and professional. It made her feel... What's the word? "I will not put those children into harm's way while they are still recovering. As for you, I suggest you take a cold shower every morning if you're going to be speaking so casually on the phone while in Atlas Academy. James may be strict, but he's even more so with inappropriate behavior under his guidance."
"I'll be sure to keep that in mind. It might be fun."
"Arishna..."
"Glynda, listen, if something does happen to those kids, you will be the first to hear it from me. I promise." A sigh on the other end was all Glynda could muster. "I love you."
"...I love you, too, Arishna. And if you need to tell someone before me, I understand. But I refuse to hear it from anyone else. Good day, Professor Dawn."
"And good night, Glynda." Arishna blew a kiss into the screen and hung up. She then heaved a heavy sigh. "I'm really sorry, Glyndie."
Arishna dialed another number into her scroll, and when it was answered, she spoke first. "Hey, it's me."
Prism took a deep breath as she entered the arena. It reminded her of Beacon, but with a few slight differences. Instead of Professor Goodwitch monitoring the sparring matches, it was a tall cyborg with a beard. Instead of numerous random classmates in the bleachers, it was her friends. Instead of Yang Xiao Long taunting and teasing her as she stood at side of the arena, it was an excessively boasting dog-faunus.
"Feel free to drop out at any time. I know I can be a handful from what my opponents tell me." Martow gloated with a sneer.
"What? The training dummies?" Marrow growled at her remark. Okay, scratch that. This will be the exact same as fighting Xiao Long.
"Are you ready?" Headmaster Ironwood called from above. When he saw neither competitor raise their hand, he nodded. "Begin!"
Marrow made the first move, throwing his boomerang, Fetch, at Prism. Prism reached into her bag and pulled out a few spheres. Once she had them in hand, she summoned a hardlight shield with her free hand. The boomerang bounced back into Marrow's hands, but the specialist had already closed the gap. He began swinging Fetch at the barrier, hoping his sword could cut through.
Prism ran around the barrier and threw a sphere at Marrow. Marrow blocked the ball with Fetch, but found himself soaked in water.
"What? Did you think it was a stink-bomb?" Prism asked. "How childish do you think I am?"
Marrow responded by shifting Fetch into a rifle and began firing on Prism. She dove to the side, summoning a hardlight barrier, then rolled another sphere towards Marrow. The specialist jumped away as it rolled towards him, and blasted it with Fetch. He then gripped his nose at the foul odor exploding from the globe.
"Yeah, that's right! I do have a stink-bomb!" Prism gloated as she closed the gap between them. She began swinging at him with her chakram, and he was forced to go on the defensive with Fetch in it's rifle form, as he needed both hands to shift it into a boomerang and one hand was preoccupied covering his nose.
Marrow kicked Prism away and pointed at her with Fetch. "Stay!"
Prism was stuck in place as Marrow lowered his weapon and walked over and snatched the remaining orb from her hand. "Too bad, kid! I warned you guys I was on another level, but you didn't listen." He tossed the ball into the air and caught it. "You got some fancy tech, but it won't always save you. Maybe if spent less time hiding behind these toys, you might learn that-!"
"Unidentified print has been detected and scanned for 1-0 seconds."
Marrow looked around confused. "Who said that?"
"Initiating self-destruct sequence of cryo-core."
The little orb in Marrow's palm hissed as it released a super cold gas into the air, freezing itself to his palm. As Marrow shook it around, Prism slowly regained her movement. His clothes, soaked from the splash of her first device, iced over until he was trapped in his own clothing.
Prism reached over and pressed a finger to the globe. "Prometheus." The gas ceased and the orb shut itself once more.
"Self-destruct sequence deactivated."
"Next time," Prism reeled back and allowed her gauntlet to build up power, "don't touch my things!" She launched her fist forward and punched Marrow in his mouth. The dog was sent crashing to the ground.
Headmaster Ironwood raised his hand. "I've seen enough. I declare Prism Asagiri the victor in this bout. However, don't let Marrow's advice fall on deaf ears. You may one day find yourself in a position where your technology may fail you."
"Says the guy whose pet Paladin almost killed us." Prism scoffed and muttered under her breath.
"And Marrow, once again, your boastful attitude and underestimation of your opponent led to your loss in this round. Perhaps I should have Specialist Bree take you under her wing in how a specialist should act?"
"Damn it, Wags!" Harriet cursed, "Once again, you lost and I have to pay for it!"
Prism climbed the steps and found her seat next to Acacia. As Sandy passed her on her way down, they high-fived and Prism wished her good luck. Prism decided now was a good time to gloat.
"Did you see my babies and I out there? We kicked some serious butt!"
A chuckle behind her caught her off-guard. Specialist Bree sat behind her with her arms crossed. "Don't get so cocky, kid. Marrow may be a specialist, but he only just joined us. He's more bark than bite. Honestly, I should be thanking you for knocking him down a peg. He's been getting too big for his britches, if you ask me."
"And if you ask me, you should treat your teammates with a little more respect." Elm scolded. "Especially someone more junior than yourself!"
"Besides, if I remember correctly, there was a rather skittish Harriet Bree once who was so excited for her first day, she forgot to wear pants to her briefing!" Clover laughed with Elm as Harriet blushed and avoided looking at her teammates. "But enough about that. Besides, it looks like Vine's match is about to begin.
Vine stood perfectly still with his eyes closed and his palms touching in meditation. Sandy didn't know how to wake him up, or whatever it is you do to get someone out of meditation. Was he waiting for Ironwood? What was she supposed to do?
"So-"
"You are quick to act and quite impatient." Sandy nearly jumped as her opponent finally spoke. "The outcome of a battle can be determined by only the first move. If you move first, you declare your strategy to your opponent, making it easy to counter. But if you choose to counter, your opponent may be too fast for you to react."
"Uh, I guess." Sandy replied. Did he want to chat before the fight started? Why?
"And what do you think will happen if you win?"
"Well, I guess I just go back to my seat and wait for everyone to be done."
"What if that's not the case? What if you only manage to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat? What if you must be sent to the medical wing?" When Sandy had no answer, Vine continued. "Tell me," Vine offered his hand as he spoke, "what is the purpose of Huntsmen and Huntresses?"
"Uh, to kill Grimm, right?"
"Why is that?"
"Uh, well, if we don't, the Grimm will kill everyone and destroy everything."
"And if we kill the Grimm, and eradicate them for good, what then?"
"What do you mean?"
"Are we no longer Huntsmen? Do we disband now that the threat of Grimm is eradicated?"
"Well, no-" Sandy paused. "I mean-" She paused again. As she pondered, Vine turned around and walked back up the steps. "Hey!" Sandy chased after him. "Where are you going?!"
"I see no reason for us to fight." Vine explained. "Therefore, I forfeit."
"But-"
"Vine Zeki has forfeited the match. Therefore, Sandy Mithril is the victor!" Headmaster Ironwood boomed from above. "All contestants, please return to your seats!"
Sandy was left standing dumbstruck, then slunked her way back up to her seat, where she slumped into her chair.
"Hey, you okay?" Reizo asked. No response.
"Look on the bright side," Echidna smiled, "at least you won without breaking a sweat!" Unfortunately, her words of encouragement only yielded a groan of disapproval.
"Don't beat yourself up, kid." Elm said "Vine isn't the kind of guy to fight for the sake of fighting. He'd rather talk things out than duke it out." Her gaze shifted from Sandy to Acacia. "Don't go thinking I'm the same, though. You'll actually be giving it your all against me!" She then made her way down the stairs toward the arena.
Acacia gulped.
Acacia made her way down the steps to the arena. She stopped on the final step and took a deep breath to calm herself down. "You're gonna be fine," she told herself, "it's just a practice round. They just want to see where you are in your training. It's not going to be like last time with the Paladin." After one last calming breath, Acacia stepped into the arena.
"There you are!" Elm exclaimed. "I was worried you got cold feet. You good to fight?"
Acacia gave a cocky smile as she scoffed. "You kidding? I'm good as good gets!"
Elm smiled at that. "That's great to hear! Now let's see you back it up!"
"Are you ready?" General Ironwood called from above.
"Always ready, sir!" Elm called back, tightening her grip on Timber.
"Then let us..." General Ironwood kept the long pause for dramatic effect, then exclaimed, "Begin!"
Acacia rushed forward with her tonfas and swung at Elm, who blocked with Timber's shaft. Acacia swung three more times, then ducked and weaved to Elm's side, getting in a good few hits, before jumping back to avoid a retaliating swing.
Acacia jumped forward to continue her assault, but Elm was dodging this time, instead of blocking. Was she trying to put space between them? Acacia didn't let up on her swings, but was so focused on Elm's front that she wasn't paying attention to behind her, as Elm moved Timber to her other hand behind her back. Elm swung low and tripped Acacia, causing her to fall on her back.
Acacia was a little dazed, but still too slow to recover. Elm planted a boot on Acacia's stomach and used Roots to pin her down. Elm shifted Timber to it's rocket launcher mode and pointed down at the trapped girl. She'd probably struggle a little before giving up and calling the match.
But she didn't.
When Elm looked down, she was shocked by what she saw. Acacia was struggling, yes, but less like, "Oh no, I'm pinned," and more like a rabbit caught in a rope trap. Acacia was scrambling, tears flowing out of her eyes and down her cheeks like a river. She began punching Elm's as hard as she could, grunting in desperation. She was helpless.
"Hey, kid?" Acacia looked up to see her opponent wearing a look of concern on her face. "You good?"
Acacia calmed down a little bit, realizing the boot wasn't as heavy as the Paladin's. Her breathing became less rapid, and finally gave a calming breath. She then chuckled. "I guess I lose, huh?"
Elm chuckled with her. "Yeah, I guess so!" Elm removed Roots and stepped off of Acacia and offered her a hand. "You wanna try again?"
Acacia sighed. "No. Not yet." She walked back towards the steps, up to her seat. "You win."
"Acacia Evergreen has forfeited the match! The victor is Elm Ederne!" General Ironwood roared from above. "Both contestants, please return to your seats."
Acacia sighed as she sat next to Prism. That was disappointing. Nothing quite like a panic attack during a sparring match to kill your shot at graduating early.
"Hey, you okay?" Acacia opened her eyes to see her entire team swarmed around her. Echidna was holding her left hand, while Prism held her right, with Sandy standing in front of her and Reizo kneeling next to her. Acacia's face flushed at all this attention she was getting.
"Uh, I-!"
"Children, please! Give Acacia some space!" Everyone stepped away as Reizo's mother glared at her new students. Acacia shivered. She hadn't seen a glare like hers since Professor Goodwitch. This professor, however, softened her expression to one fitting for a mother such as hers as she spoke gently. "Are you okay, dear?"
"Uh, yeah, I just-"
"Oh, will you quit coddling them!" Acacia almost got whiplash after turning her head so quickly. Specialist Ederne sat down next to Acacia where Echidna once was. When did that happen? "The kid's fine; just had a little scare, that's all. Right, kid?" She finished with a wink towards her.
"Yeah, I'm, uh... I'm good."
"See? She's fine. Besides, if she wasn't, Vine would be more than happy to do some meditating with her after her classes. Ain't that right, Vine?" Vine wasn't paying attention. In fact, he looked like he was meditating just so he didn't have to respond. "See?"
Acacia cleared her throat. "Yeah. I'll, uh, I'll hold you guys to it."
"Great! Now it's time for Harriet's match! You're gonna love this. She might be the most hot-headed, but she's also the most talented of us, too." Specialist Ederne leaned down to whisper. "Uh, but don't tell her I said that."
Echidna and Harriet made it to their places in the arena at the same time. They didn't take their eyes off of each other once they saw their opponent at the bottom of their stairs.
"Feel free to drop out at any time, princess." Specialist Bree teased. Echidna knew her foe wouldn't hold anything back, so neither should she. "I can tell you're scared. I bet your heart is thumping in that dainty little chest of yours."
Echidna scoffed at the claim. Talking back to her would just distract her. She simply took her stance with her staff in front of her.
"Not gonna talk, huh? Alright! I can respect that." Specialist Bree donned Fast Knuckles and took a boxing stance, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "I'm ready when you are!"
Ironwood waited a moment, seeing the combatants were already taking stances. "Begin!"
Specialist Bree launched herself at Echidna, and kicked at her staff. Echidna gripped her staff tightly and used the force of the kick to spin herself, using her momentum to swing her staff as she spun and attempted to strike her opponent's head. Specialist Bree ducked with a cocky smirk, however, and swung her legs out to catch Echidna in the legs. Echidna jumped, however, with a cocky smirk of her own, as a wave of water crashed into Specialist Bree, sending her rolling along the floor.
"Where the hell-?!" Specialist Bree saw Echidna removing her gloves to reveal fins.
"I can use my aura to create water and manipulate it." Echidna explained as water rolled off her fins in small droplets. "I was waiting for a chance to show this off to my team before starting school, so I guess now is as good a time as any." Echidna then put her hand up to her lips. "Oh! But I'm getting ahead of myself! Do you need a towel?"
Specialist Bree growled and punched the floor, cracking it a little. "No, but you're gonna need an ice pack when I'm done with you!"
Echidna split her staff in two as she readied herself for another frontal assault. She must have blinked because Specialist Bree was suddenly gone!
"Heads up, kid!" Echidna jumped back and looked up as Specialist Bree came down like a comet, shattering the flooring of the arena. But there was no time for her to rest as Specialist Bree disappeared again. A blur out of the corner of her left eye forced her to spin to left, just in time to catch Specialist Bree launching at her again. Echidna tried to dodge, but was caught in the shoulder by a foot from the specialist. This victory for the specialist was short lived as Echidna was able to grip her ankle with a claw from one end on her baton.
Echidna yanked on the chain attached and forced Specialist Bree to the ground with a splash. She looked around and noticed the space they were fighting in had become a large puddle of water. Echidna held out her hands in front of her and flattened her palms upwards, then slowly raised her hands up.
Specialist Bree kicked her leg back, but found there was enough slack in the chain to not bother Echidna. "Damn it!"
"Enough!" Ironwood barked from above. "Harriet Bree is the victor of this bout." With those words, Echidna gasped as she fell to her knees. "I feel I don't need to explain the importance of aura conservation, do I, Miss Bluewaters?" Echidna breathed heavily, feeling drained from her trick. Her plan was sound, she thought, but she had no idea how much aura it required.
"Hey, you need a hand?" Echidna looked up to see Specialist Bree offering her hand. She took it, but found it uneasy to stand. "Woah! Easy now!" Specialist Bree moved Echidna's hand over her shoulders as they walked up the steps. "Not bad, kid! But try not to burn yourself out next time."
Echidna sighed. "Thanks."
Echidna yawned as she settled into her seat. She hadn't expended that much aura since that Beringel mission. She looked to her left and saw Reizo's mother watching the arena with intensity. It made sense to Echidna, since her son (currently daughter) was now up to bat. Reizo was their leader, and for good reason as she understood. He wasn't as smart as Prism, nor as spirited as Sandy, or as tough as Acacia, and certainly wasn't as socially graceful as herself, but Reizo had something that made him different from the others.
"Up next is Clover. Ten Lien says the kid won't last a minute!" Specialist Amin boasted.
"I'll take you on that bet!" Specialist Bree exclaimed. "No way Clover will lose against someone so green!"
"50 Lien that the kid makes it to 10 minutes." Specialist Ederne pitched in.
"I'm certain Clover wouldn't approve of wanton gambling." Specialist Zeku opined.
"Come on, Reizo," Echidna wearily thought as she closed her eyes, "prove them wrong."
"It's not too late to back out, you know." Specialist Ebi reasoned. "We can just have you start all over again. There's no shame in going back to square one."
"Will my friends be with me?" Reizo asked as she gripped her katana's pommel.
"Well, we can't guarantee anything. I've seen at least one of them ready for the next level."
"Then my answer is no." Reizo drew her sword from it's sheath. "It's either all of us, or none of us."
"Okay, but I tried." Specialist Ebi submitted with a shrug. He then waved to above them. "Hey, we're ready down here!"
General Ironwood nodded. "Then let the final battle begin!"
Reizo wasted no time as she charged with her blade up and at her side. She swung with one hand, but missed entirely as Specialist Ebi leaned back. Reizo recovered by swinging back the other way at a diagonal angle, but the specialist leader simply stepped back. Reizo decided on a new approach and thrusted her katana into her opponent.
Her mother gasped at the direct hit to his chest. Reizo pressed forward and pushed him back. Specialist Ebi laughed as he flicked his badge.
"Not bad, kid," he exclaimed, "if I weren't so lucky, I'd have to get an early retirement!" He then reached for his weapon at his side. "But now that I know you're going for the kill," Specialist Ebi extended Kingfisher, "I don't need to hold back, do I?"
Reizo began her charge again, but the specialist leader launched the hook from Kingfisher out and snagged her sleeve. He reeled in the hook with a tug, forcing Reizo into a spin. After steadying herself, Reizo looked forward in time to see Specialist Ebi throwing a punch at her. She twisted her body to avoid him and swung up at his exposed arm, but Kingfisher's rod had caught the blow and knocked the sword to the side.
'Time for a new plan.' Reizo thought as she sheathed her katana, inserting a lightning and a fire dust coin into the blade's coin slots before it was fully in. She then attempted to goad her opponent closer with a taunting of her free hand. He just smiled and obliged by walking forward, unafraid of her. When he was within feet of her, Reizo drew her blade as quickly as she could, catching Kingfisher in her path. Flames roared and electricity crackled as she pressed forward into her foe. Specialist Ebi simply pushed her back and tugged on his reel. Was it upside down?
Reizo was sent to the ground on her back. She tried to get up, but the specialist leader was already on top of her, with a boot on her wrist and forcing her to let go of her katana.
"You done?" Specialist Ebi asked. Reizo blew her hair out of her face.
"Yeah. I'm done."
"You have all performed admirably. You have proven that your skills have not diminished since the Fall." Ironwood paced before the students with the Ace-Ops standing behind him. "However, it should be noted that you all still have a ways to go before you can become fully licensed Huntsmen. As such, I have decided, if you will allow me, to enroll all of you into Atlas Academy as third year students."
The five glanced at each other, each taking their time to silently judge the expressions of the other. Once Reizo recieved a nod from the other girls, she stood up and cleared her throat. "All of us, headmaster?"
"Yes." Ironwood answered immediately. "I feel you children have more that proved yourselves beyond the capabilities of first year students of Beacon, and with only one more year of proper education, I see no issue with you five becoming Huntsmen."
Reizo looked back to her team, whom all smiled back at her. Reizo nodded and faced the Headmaster once more. "Yes, Headmaster Ironwood. We'll do you proud!"
"Excellent!" Ironwood smiled. "Then allow me to once again welcome you to Atlas." He then turned to speak with Reizo's mother. "Professor Yamato. If you would be so kind, please escort our new students to their dorms."
"Of course, Headmaster." Reizo's mother extended her arm towards the exit as she spoke to her new students. "If you will follow me, I will escort you to your dorm rooms, where you can all get settled in."
Ironwood smiled as he watched his new students leave, taking their first steps towards serving their community, and making humanity better as a whole. A buzz on his scroll interrupted his thoughts. He reached down and looked at the screen, sighing as he read the contact. What did Cordovin want this time?
"Ah! Sweet comfort!" Prism sighed as she sunk into the bliss of her new mattress, sighing contentedly after a three hour "detour" to the dorm room, in which Reizo's mother took the liberty of explaining not only the hundreds of different rooms and their uses, but the history of Atlas Academy as well. This heaven was interrupted by Echidna grabbing her leg.
"Hey! We were going to vote on who slept in what bed!"
"And I vote for this bed. All in favor? Aye! All oppose?"
"Nay!" Echidna shouted.
"The motion remains unchanged. It's my bed." Prism heaved a sigh of delight. "I love democracy."
As the two argued, Acacia and Sandy looked over the new uniforms, already in their closets. Acacia felt the interior, the wool scratching against her palm, and then the surface, which felt like cotton. Acacia smiled, glad to know Atlas was mindful of both it's freezing temperatures and high altitude, neither of which made the pit viper poltergeist feel comfortable. Damn her reptilian traits!
"Ugh! Do they only have steel gray?" Sandy complained. "At least Beacon's uniforms had style."
"I'm sure they have smoke gray in stock if you'd like," Acacia joked, "or if you'd prefer, I'm sure they can get you a very, very, very light black, or a very, very, very, very, very, very dark white." Sandy and Acacia giggled at the jest.
Reizo steeped out of the bathroom, wearing a towel around her torso. She stood for a moment, watching her team. Prism was annoying Echidna, Acacia and Sandy were laughing and making jokes, and she felt left out. It really was just like Beacon.
Reizo walked to her bag, which she assumed were brought up by Atlas staff while she was fighting for the amusement of her new, stoic overlord. She hummed in thought as she got dressed. Third year students, but not graduates?
Was he not entertained?
A knock on the door broke her thoughts. "Just a second!" Reizo called as she put on her new uniform. Wool? What kind of sadist makes a scratchy wool uniform?!
Another knock followed. Once Reizo was dressed, Acacia answered the door, as she was the closest. Behind the door was Professor Yamato stood in the doorway, smiling and waving.
"Good afternoon, everyone! I hope you have all settled in now." The in-fighting over one of the bunks informed her of the contrary. "Ah, I see. Is there a problem I can resolve?"
Before Reizo could speak, a new, yet familiar voice spoke on her behalf.
"Ah, it's fine, Mrs. Y! These kids are just that close, y'know?" The infighting stopped as all five students rushed into the hallway to meet the voice of their former professor, Arishna Dawn. "Yo! Remember me?"
"It's Professor Goodwitch's girlfriend!" Sandy cried. An icy chill ran through Professor Dawn as her fellow professor gave her a wary glance.
"Oh, really?" Professor Mom inquired. "So you had faculty romantically involved with one another at Beacon, eh?"
"Well, I mean, it started before-"
"No, she was a Teacher's Assistant when we started." Echidna explained. "She only became a professor just before the Vytal Festival."
"Oh, so not only was it a romantic relationship, but a case of fraternization as well?" Professor Dawn scrambled for an explanation as she squirmed in place under the judging eyes of her superior. "My, my! The things Beacon got away with when I'm not watching."
"No, you got it all wrong!" Professor Dawn shouted with eyes shut. It became silent. That wasn't a good sign. She opened an eye and was petrified by the steely gaze of her senior.
"Oh? Then please, do explain how your relationship with a supervisory faculty member began."
"Well,not now, here, in front of the students!" Professor Dawn excused.
"Very well." Professor Dawn sighed in relief at her senior's decision. "Students, please excuse us. I must speak with Professor Dawn in private. Reizo, I expect to see your team in class at 7 AM tomorrow!"
"Yes, mom! Er, I mean, Ma'am!"
"Just Professor is fine." She then turned and walked away, dragging Professor Dawn by the collar. "Now, about this fraternization..."
"Help me!" Professor Dawn cried.
Reizo almost felt bad for her. Almost, but not enough to save her from her mother.
A week had passed for Team REAPS much like Beacon. The first two days crawled, but by the third day, they finally got the hang of it. The fourth day couldn't have ended fast enough because it was Friday.
Prism practically blasted from one class to the other like she was shot out of a cannon (and in one class, she did), and she inhaled her lunch. Literally. She had a vacuum device connected between her mouth and her plate, and she had the blades pull her food into them and sent the slush and mush of food products into her mouth.
Acacia and Sandy said it was the most amazing thing they'd ever seen.
Echidna held back the urge to vomit by a hair.
Reizo just sat there.
The day winded down from there, and at the final bell, Prism ran to her room and packed her bag for an overnight trip. Juice, snacks, a change of clothes, a spare lug nut and wrench set, oil. Y'know, the essentials.
"You have your scroll?" Acacia asked.
"Yup!" Prism answered.
"Is it charged?" Sandy inquired.
"Mhm!"
"Did you call ahead to the... Polyester guy?" Reizo asked, half for comfort, half for clarity.
"Doctor Pietro Polendina, and yes!" Prism huffed. "He sent me his address and told me he would be expecting me."
"You aren't going to cause trouble?" Echidna interrogated.
"Guys, I said I would be fine! You're just being worrywarts for nothing!" Prism whined, then followed up with a hug. "But thanks, guys. I appreciate it."
"Call us when you're on your way back, okay?" Reizo said.
"Or if you get into trouble." Echidna added.
Prism smiled. "I will. Don't be a stranger!" Prism left, shaking at the thought of meeting a brilliant mind like Doctor Polendina. How lucky was she?
'What a dump!' Prism thought as she stood before a run-down building. She checked her scroll again to make sure this was indeed the right place. Yeah, it matched. It also matched a public service amount she watched at Beginner school about walking home alone.
Prism cautiously approached the door and rapped her knuckle against it twice, then jumped a few feet back. A television screen flared to life, but the feed was scrambled and all Prism could see was static.
"Yes?" A voice inquired. It didn't sound like the doctor, but then again, the screen has a bad case of static. Was it age or weather? Since Mantle relied on subterranean dust lines running under buildings and street curbs, Prism thought the former was more likely. "And you are?"
Prism cleared her throat. "Prism Asagiri, from Atlas? I spoke earlier this week to Doctor Polendina and I was told to come to this address by him. Is he there?"
"Oh, yes. Give me a moment." The screen went dead and Prism took another step back. If it was a creep, she'd run. If it was some Grim in disguise, she'd kill it, then run. She made more plans in her head as the door unlocked. The doors opened, revealing a silhouette of something large, but not tall, standing on four, inhuman legs. "Ms. Asagiri?" A familiar voice called.
Prism gulped. "Yes?" The creature stepped out of the doors, the street lights revealing not a Grimm, but a dark-skinned, heavy-set, elderly man with a gray, bushy beard in a green sweater-vest. He was sitting in a large, iron seat with spider legs. "Doctor Polendina?"
"Please, call me Pietro." He said. "Come in, I don't want you catching your death of cold out here!"
Never judge a book by it's cover. That was a lesson Prism was taught time and time again. What's that; a shiny ball? Nope, it's a sub-sonic shotgun! Let me guess; a Grimm with fins? Nope, they're glider wings! Okay, I got it, it's an abandoned building with deviants of every variety inside, right? Three strikes, bud, because this is actually a super-science lab!
Prism walked around in awe as Doct- Pietro gave her a tour of his lab. Well, not so much a tour as him trying to explain things like funding, research grants, and doctoral dissertations, only for Prism to interrupt by gasping shouting, "What's that?!" every ten minutes. She would then apologize and ask that he continue.
But a new voice interrupted them this time.
"Doctor? Are you well? Sporadic gasping is often a symptom of illnesses such as-"
"Whoa!" Prism jumped. "What was that?!"
"Oh, that's that little passion project I was telling you about." Pietro answered. "You remember the Fall of Beacon, correct?"
"I tend to have recurring nightmares of it now and then, yes." Prism said plainly.
Pietro was silent for a moment. "...Yes. Er, apologies for bringing up bad memories."
"Oh, it's no problem! Go on!"
"Well, of the many casualties, including civilians, Huntsmen, students, White Fang, and so on, one of my creations was also grievously damaged."
"Which one was it? Was it the Atlesian flagship? The Knights? The Paladins?"
"No, no. Nothing so violent. In fact, quite the contrary: she was my greatest creation because of her learning ability, not her combat capabilities."
"Wait, you don't mean-" Pietro pressed a button a nearby shelf, and a prototype for a new car seat belt, and the counter it was sitting on, spun into the wall, and out came a red-haired girl's head, surrounded by other body parts. "Penny?!"
"Sal-u-tations, Friend Prism!" Penny cheered. "I hope you are finding Atlas well!"
"Oh, good! You know each other." Pietro sighed in relief. "That will save some time."
"But, how?! I saw-! We all saw-!" With each failed sentence, Prism gestured wildly with her arms at Penny. Pietro chuckled.
"Allow me to explain."
"So, that's it, huh? Penny is stuck as a head until she gets a new source of aura?" Prism summed up. "Not surprising, since she barely had aura left from her pieces."
"Not exactly. It's not a new source she needs, but a conduit and a new body to contain it. Unfortunately, Ironwood and his researchers need all the funding they can get, and I can forget about asking the SDC. Too may questions and too few morals to understand my answers."
"So she needs a new body, huh?" Prism asked with a smile. "Say, I never got to show you my babies, huh?"
"Your babies?" Pietro eyed her warily as he asked.
"Yup, like this!" Prism proceeded to pull out six massive, in-tact blueprints for her new weapon designs. She then pulled out two, massive swords, then an obscenely large hammer. "Uh, do you get it, or should I stop and actually explain?"
"Uh, I feel an explanation would suffice. Is this your semblance?"
"Oh, no! This is my semblance!" Prism clapped her hands together, then pulled them apart, creating and expanding a small barrier of hard-light between her palms. "I can create flat, hard-light structures with my semblance. Once I started developing my semblance, I decided to figure out the physics of it and started inventing devices powered by it."
"I see. So, you intend to create a conduit and body using hard-light technology?"
"Something like that, but first, I have to ask you something." Prism shot him a smile. "Do you mind if I build something in here? Just to make it easier for us to work together."
Pietro smiled. That was all the answer she needed.
Reizo laid back in her bed, reading over the new strategies she came up with. Her match against the Specialist Leader was sobering, to say the least. She had bested opponents without Copy before, but never one of this caliber. She needed to get stronger.
She closed her eyes and thought back to the day before, and the lesson the professor was giving. "A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link." Who was the weakest link? She felt like garbage for even thinking it, but it was a thought every leader had. Or, that's the excuse she gave herself.
Prism was the first fight, and the best result yet. But, like the General Headmaster said, it was less her own skill and more so the incompetence of her opponent. Either way, Prism still performed admirably.
Sandy's "fight" was also an interesting event. Sandy "fought" without lifting a finger. She "fought" an opponent with more combat experience. In the end, she lost her "fight". One thing that was clear, though, was that a Huntsman was more than just a warrior. A Huntsman was also a negotiator and, at times, a political tool, an ideal or standard to be upheld, idolized, and viewed by non-Huntsmen. Reizo sighed.
She hated politics.
Speaking of politics, though, Echidna, the daughter of "the better White Fang" (her words), crossed her mind. Her fight was incredible. An excellent use of her semblance and weapon. She really gave Specialist Bree a run for her money. But she still lost because of her using too much aura. Aura training was important, as well as physical training. If only there were a way to use her semblance without expending so much aura. Maybe if she already had water around her, instead of creating it from her body?
Reizo then thought of her final teammate, Acacia. She fought hard, but the battle was over the second she was pinned. Acacia was still recovering, it seems. Not surprising, since you don't just get over almost dying under six tons of heavy metal in a single night. It still presented a problem, since being pinned is not an anomaly in a fight.
Reizo sighed and shook her head. She got up and walked into the bathroom. She shut the door and made her way to do her business. Business? Ha! That was a good one. Like this would fly in an office job. She chuckled at the idea.
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing, really." Reizo answered. "I was just thinking about-" Reizo's words died on her lips. Standing in front of her, just ten feet away, was Prism, with grease on her face and a smile on her lips. She looked up to see the teleporter attached to the ceiling.
"About what?" Prism asked, walking over to the sink to wash her hands of the grime accumulated on them.
"How did you get in here?!" Reizo screeched.
"Teleporter. Duh! Remember?" Prism answered as she turned towards the towels.
"Why in the bathroom?!" Reizo was red in the face earlier before, but now it felt like it was on fire with rage.
"Because," Prism began, turning towards her throne-bound leader, "there wasn't any... room... in our..." Prism's face became red, and she turned away covering her eyes. "Damn it, not again!"
Reizo looked down and saw she, or now he, had changed once again. He sighed as he stood up, pulled up his skirt, flushed, and made his way to wash his hands. "Feel free to leave when ever you'd like."
Prism didn't need to be told twice as she bolted from the room. Reizo dried his hands and stepped out next, seeing Echidna, Sandy, and Acacia staring at him wide-eyed.
"What?"
Acacia whistled. "Nice legs!"
gotta be fucking kidding me…”
This is so dumb but whatever X3
Today had been Atlas’ day off, the Friday afternoon being a rather tame one even with the presence of his little piranha. Someone, even she had been as calm as her brother Frankie while Atlas stayed at home with them.
Ula and Schrader were at each of their respective jobs while the older kids did their own things.
The girls had gone over to their aunt Ama’s house while Basil asked to venture off in the woods alone. That only left Rowan, who was now sitting in the passenger seat of the car after Atlas had picked him up from a day at his aunt Cordelia’s.
“And then, Felix was mori’ed by rabies grandpa! It was nasty.”
“Who’s...rabies grandpa, again?”
“The Blight. Ya know, the hunchback guy who looks like he’s on drugs and is always drooling.” Rowan stated before lolling out his tongue and letting a bit of drool drip from it, eventually sucking it up much to his father’s disgust. “I survived though, I found the hatch. Old man almost got me with the rush.”
“It really does sound like you guys had fun.” Atlas smiled to himself as he constantly looked through the mirror to check on the infants in the backseats, seeing that they were both still sound asleep. “Did you call your mom?”
“Yeah, she told me to tell you to buy some food for us. And that she’d be picking up my sisters.”
“Did she really say to buy food?” Atlas darted his eyes at Rowan once they were at a stoplight, squinting at the kid who nodded his head with a grin. “I want to hear her myself.”
“Fine.” Rowan shrugged before pulling out his phone, looking through his contacts before finding his mother’s and dialing her number.
“Hello?”
“Hi mom, it’s your favorite son.” Rowan spoke as he looked over at Atlas who continued driving. “Isn’t it true that you told me to tell deer dad to buy us some food?”
“Is your father there?”
“Yeah.”
“Atlas,”
“Yes, Teacup?”
“Ew.” Rowan jokingly grimaced as Atlas returned an eye roll.
“Schrader might be getting home a bit late, apparently some customers filed a complaint or whatever, and I gotta get the girls first. I wouldn’t want you making dinner for all of us after taking care of Frankie and Dahlia.”
“Oh it’s no hassle, Dahlia wasn’t even fussy or putting things in her mouth today.” Atlas laughed as he looked at Dahlia through the rear view mirror again. “But alright, I’ll let Rowan decide what we eat today.”
Atlas slightly chuckled as he heard Rowan quietly give a ‘yes’ as he fist bumped the air.
“Sounds good. I’ll see you guys later, maybe I’ll get a tub of ice cream on the way.”
“Yes!” Rowan now said a bit louder, biting his lip to contain his excitement as Atlas gave another chuckle.
“Alright, see you later. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
Rowan soon hanged while his father didn’t bother to face him, very well knowing that the fawn was looking at him rather smugly.
“Alright, alright. Quit it.” Atlas focused on the road. “Where to?”
Rowan remained quiet for a while, thinking of all the wonderful choices he had…there were too many, it was far too difficult to pick just one.
“How about…” Rowan tapped his chin in thought before giving a sly smirk. “McDonald’s?”
_____________
Ula’s day had been somewhat tiring, having to deal with a good amount of customers. Well, that was just how Fridays tended to be, especially with her cafe being right at a corner leading to the beach.
“Don’t forget to grab your backpacks.” she called out to Flora and Willow who had just hopped out of her teal vehicle, calling out in their small voices before running towards the front door. “Make sure you take showers.”
“But we’re not dirty.” Willow blinked at her mother as she made her way to the door, key ready in hand as she reached up to unlock the door. “I don’t want to sound rude mommy, but we didn’t do a lot of messy stuff.”
“Wait, wait.” Ula lifted a finger at Willow, now placing her ear on the door as she heard a series of sounds coming from inside. “Stay behind me.”
“What’s wrong?” Flora watched as Ula carefully unlocked the door, slowly opening it as the chaos from inside sounded much clearer. “Oh, the babies are crying.”
“Oh.” Ula sighed in relief, eventually walking inside with the girls still behind her, just in case. “Atlas?”
“Y...yeah?”
“What’s going on?” Ula shooed the girls away, really just motioning to them to go shower as Ula now caught sight of Atlas in the living room with their crying infants on the couch.
Right beside them was Atlas who attempted to comfort them, especially Dahlia who was throwing quite the fit. Ula had even noticed some broken glass on the ground, specifically leading to the other couch where she found one of her eldest sons.
“That’s what I keep on asking.” Atlas rubbed his temple, a headache having formed after hearing a terrible amount of crying from Dahlia who showed no sign of stopping. “One minute I had left Rowan in the car with Dahlia and Frankie while I went to go buy some soda, the next I find them crying like this.”
“Rowan?” Ula turned to Rowan who had his legs pressed together while his hands were clasped. “What happened?”
“Like I said to dad, Dahlia just got cranky because I wouldn’t let her take too many fries. So she started crying, and Frankie followed.” Rowan shrugged rather innocently, receiving a squint from his father. “I gave her a little bit, but she wanted more and I was just trying to save the rest for everyone else.”
Ula now had her hands on her hips, giving Rowan a rather suspicious look before reaching over to grab Dahlia who continued to cry loudly. Meanwhile, Frankie actually started to settle down.
“You gotta be fucking kidding me!”
“Hey!” Ula yelled at Flora, who had been the one to exclaim. “Language!”
“Sorry, but we saw that there’s McDonald’s.” everybody watched Flora peek into the bags that had been set on the dinner table, realizing that she looked somewhat upset. “But there’s no fries!”
“They’re in the other bag.” Atlas mentioned before Flora shook her head.
“No, that other one has chicken nuggets. The fries packs are nearly empty!”
“What?” Atlas made a weird face, before Flora gasped rather loudly.
“It was Rowan! Rowan ate our fries!” she accusingly pointed at her brother who’s eyes widened. “He didn’t want to give anymore to Dahlia so he could eat them!”
“Excuse me?” Rowan finally spoke up, a clear look of shock on his features. “Such an accusation! How do we know you didn’t eat them just now?”
“I didn’t eat anything!”
“You were about to eat some fries…” Willow quietly added on, now receiving a look of betrayal from Flora. “B-but..there aren’t very many…”
“Well, I didn’t eat anything.” Rowan defended himself, going as far as standing up and walking up to his mother to point at his baby sister. “It was Dahlia! She’s just throwing a tantrum because I stopped her from finishing them all!”
At this, Dahlia merely cried even harder despite being cradled by Ula who now gave Rowan a deep frown. Soon enough, the calmed-down Frankie followed along as well.
“If Dahlia ate them, they why are your fingers covered in salt?” Ula questioned before a look of panic came onto Rowan.
“Darn! I didn’t wipe them enough!”
“A-ha!” Ula exclaimed. “There isn’t any salt on your fingers, I looked.”
“B...But! But, but mom!” Rowan stammered out, looking at how everybody stared at him in an anger. “What...but...fries!”
“Fries, what?” a new voice sounded, everybody seeing Schrader walk into the house with Basil right behind. “Is everything alright?”
“No!” Flora shouted before pointing at Rowan once again. “Deer dad bought McDonald’s and Rowan ate all the fries!”
“Not all of them!”
“There’s only like three fries left!” Flora continued before Willow surprisingly gave her a weird look, not being the type to really out somebody.
“Flora, you were eating them.”
“I was not!”
“So...no fries?” Schrader blinked, soon noticing that Basil had already taken out his knife. “No.”
“No because Rowan ate them all, apparently.” Atlas shook his head, a realization soon coming to him. “Wait, even my fries are gone?”
“I’d never do that to you-” Rowan began, eventually having to dodge what was a baby bottle being flung at him.
“Dahlia!” Ula looked at the baby who had magically conjured up said item, having angrily thrown it at her brother while she glared at him with curled up hair and no smile.
“Alright, alright! I might have eaten deer dad’s fries too.”
“You, what!?” Atlas now slightly fumed. “My own son!”
“He ate Basil’s, mom’s, both dads’, mine, Willow’s and even the tiny ones for Frankie and Dahlia!” Flora let it all roll out, pulling out but a single fry pack that was much fuller than the rest. “Only his is full!”
“Alright! Fine!” Rowan threw his arms into the air, a silence now filling the air. “Twas I who consumed all thy fries!”
“You gotta be fucking kidding me.” Ula was now the one to say it, shaking her head and placing her free hand on her face before Dahlia mimicked her action.
“I’m a hungry boy! I need to eat, scavenge!”
“Rowan, just stop.”
“I ate them! And I am not afraid to say that I’ll do it again!” Rowan nodded to himself, noticing his twin roll his eyes at him. “What else am I supposed to do, starve? Save it all for the rest of you who don’t appreciate fries like I do!?”
“Yes!” Flora shouted.
“Well, no! I ate your fries, and there’s nothing you can do about it! So cry all you want, but those sliced potatoes have been digested and sitting perfectly well in my stomach. So, ha!”
“Rowan.” Ula sternly called her son who looked her in the eye with absolutely no fear. “No Dead by Daylight for three days.”
“Mom, please no.” Rowan’s facade fell as he gave a panicked smile. “Mom I was just kidding.”
“Would you like it to be a day for each person who no longer has any fries because of you?”
“Come on mom, I-I’ll go get some more fries for everyone.”
“Room. Now.”
“B-but-!”
“But first, give Dahlia your fries.”
“Why does she get the fries!?” Flora groaned, not very happy about Dahlia who giggled to herself in glee.
Before anymore words could be spoken, Rowan shamefully made his way over to the dinner table where he received a glare from Flora. He took the last pack of fries, attempting to slip one more into his mouth before being smacked on the hand by her.
He soon enough went over to Ula, handing her the last fries before slowly walking to his room. Every now and then, he would look back at his family with puppy eyes, his parents only pointing to his room before he eventually disappeared.
“Well that’s settled.” Ula sighed and shook her head.
“I’ll order some more for the kids.” Schrader chuckled to himself, actually finding the situation quite hilarious.
“I’ll take Dahlia to her room.” Ula announced before making her way to the nursery, sharing a smirk with Dahlia before whispering. “And we’ll be sharing Rowan’s fries.~”
Atlas: Touch (Five Hargreeves x Reader) (The Umbrella Academy)
A/N: HEEEYYY GUYS!!! So this is based off of a request I got today, and something I personally wanted to write. (The whole Five comforting the reader thing) The title + kinda sad nature of it all is based on Atlas: Touch by Sleeping At Last. I feel like this may be kind of a mess, but it’s honestly because today was just such a bad day. SOOOO ANYWAY, THIS IS GONNA BE A TWO PARTER!!!! YAYAYAY!!!  Also, it’s a little shorter than what I normally write because of that...Soooo just be aware of that...now ENJOY!
Summary: Five comforts the reader after having a vision she really wished hadn’t seen...(Reader can see the future)
Warnings: References to murder, killing, blood, language, implied panic attack, a really terrible childhood, angst, cliffhanger (that will be resolved in part 2) FLUFF!
The wind is harsh and brisk, passing straight through your body as it eradicates any sense of warmth you once felt. A chill rolls down your spine, and a feeling of uneasiness fills your gut. The area around you was barren of life, save a large, vibrantly colored sycamore tree far off in the distance. Its presence made no sense, since there was no other sort of growth in the area.
 It was almost dream like. You look up at the lightless night sky. Not a single star was shining. The moon was nowhere to be seen. It was dark, ominous, and strangely malevolent in sensation.
“Where the hell am I?” You ask yourself.
Then, you see a familiar shape lying under the tree.
“Five?” You call out as you begin to make your way over to him.
No answer.
“Five?” Your voice echoes back to you.
No answer again. You squint, trying to get a better look at Five. He wasn’t in his Academy uniform. He was wearing a Bowie shirt, with a flannel over it, and dark blue jeans. You walk a bit closer, and you start to see more.
 In the center of his chest, you notice something dark, something staining through his shirt. In the center appears to be some sort of a hole.
Then, it hits you.
The dark stain was blood, and the hole must have been where a bullet entered Five’s chest.
Five had been shot, and you weren’t there to stop it. You were too late.
“NO!” You cry out.
You break out into a sprint, rushing over to him as fast as you possibly could. “Five!” You scream as you come closer to the great big tree. Suddenly, crows burst into flight from the branches of the tree, their shrilling squawks shaking you up a bit.
Finally, you approach Five. You kneel down by his side. Tears well up in your eyes. “F-Five?” You croak, swallowing harshly. You grab his shoulders. “F-Five, p-please. Stay with me, please!”
No answer.
You extend your index and middle finger underneath the right end of Five’s jawline, searching for a pulse. “P-please, p-please s-stay with m-me,” You stutter. You refuse to move your fingers, even though you feel absolutely nothing.
You shut your eyes tightly, and tears begin to stream down your cheeks at free will. You collapse in Five’s lap, sobbing heavily. You chant incoherently, “Wake up, wake up, wake up.” But he doesn’t. He can’t
He’s gone.
The crows that had left seconds ago return again, circling around the tree, cackling their cacophonous cries, telling the gods above that they had correctly predicted yet another death.
Then, there’s nothing by darkness. “Five!” You scream as you open your eyes, pushing yourself up in your bed. Light fills the room, but you can’t fight the overwhelming darkness you feel deep down inside.
Rain patters loudly against the window next to you as a tear slides down your cheek. You take a deep breath, but it feels like the air that once filled your room was sucked out by some sort of vacuum. The walls feel as though they are closing in. Your heart beats rapidly in your chest.
What the hell just happened? You ask yourself.
Your visions had been growing worse lately, but that specific one had taken you by surprise. Your visions never showed how something would truly happen, but they would give you some sort of intimation as to what would come to pass. Five and the rest of the Hargreeves swore to help you learn to use and control your abilities the minute they met you. They promised that with their help, you could dive deeper, and figure out more about your premonitions.
It was hard, of course, when you couldn’t stand to experience whatever it was you saw. All your life, you couldn’t stand your power. Most of your visions came on without warning, and depicted terrible, horrendous things. Worst of all, you were unable to control who’s future you saw.
Yes, being able to see the future could be a blessing at times. But, more often than not, you felt as though it was a burden. You had grown up in foster care, which had only added to your stress as a child. Not only did you deal with a power you couldn’t control, but you had no one to depend on. Your outbursts due to your premonitions caused you to move around quite a bit. Every foster parent you had deemed you “impossible,” which ruined your chances at becoming adopted. Kids bullied you from group home to group home, and you struggled to stay stable. One fateful day, when you finally felt as though you had enough, you ran away.
You planned to move to New York, and pursue music, the one thing that helped you throughout your life.
You stopped for some coffee at Griddy’s on your way out of town, and that was when you met Five. The minute he sat down next to you, you had a premonition: Five would temporarily lose his powers, causing him to be captured and tortured by The Commission.
It was often obvious to those around you when you had your premonitions, since you essentially travel to a dream world in some distant stream of you consciousness. Five immediately knew that something was wrong.
“I’m sorry, but are you alright?” He asked. You decided to take a chance on Five, and explain to him what it was you saw. There was something about him that told you he was just like you; he was a dysfuctional outcast, who simply wanted to be loved.
By the end of your conversation with Five, about what you had foreseen, as well as your powers, Five decided it would be best for you to come back to the Academy with him.
You had nowhere to go, no one to take you in. Somehow, running off with some seventeen year old boy who could move through time became your best bet.
Over the course of the last few months, you and that very same seventeen year old boy had created an unbreakable bond. Your childhood made you feel unlovable, and Five made you feel the exact opposite. Five cared about you. He was usually sarcastic and nonchalant with people. But with you, he was kind, and sweet. He made you feel like things were going to be okay, or possibly even better than okay.
Maybe things could be…good, just for once, You thought to yourself.
Most importantly, Five was the first person to ever say those eight words to you:
“I hate most people, but I love you.”
You hadn’t expected him to feel anything for you. Your whole life you felt worthless, and unwanted. But Five wanted you. He saw how incredibly special and important you were.
“I love you too,” You said back.
It was abundantly clear that you couldn’t lose Five. Not now. Not after everything you had told him, not after all of the late nights that you two had stayed up talking. You had built a relationship with him, and it was the first relationship that had ever truly mattered to you.
Suddenly, a knock at the door brings you back to reality. You look in the mirror across the room, revealing your puffy, tear filled eyes and red, soaked cheeks. You swallow harshly, frantically reaching over to the tissue box on your nightstand.
“(Y/N)?” Five calls, knocking again. “Are you okay?” You can’t speak. Everything hurts far too much. You look over to the door, and watch as the knob twists, and the door creaks open.
Five’s crystal blue eyes meet yours. He studies your face, instantly recognizes how disheveled and destroyed you look. You break down again, simply at the sight of him. You sob heavily. “I-I d-don’t kn-know what t-to d-do F-…” You choke on your words. Five rushes over to you, wrapping his arms tightly around your shivering body.
“What happened?” Five questions softly. “Did someone hurt you?” His tone immediately changes at the thought that someone did this to you. “I swear to God I’ll fucking kill whoever did this.”
“N-no o-one h-hurt m-me,” You stutter. “I-I c-can’t t-take th-this a-anymore Five, I can’t d-do this sh-shit anymore,” You say in between sobs. “I can’t fucking do this.”
Five furrows his brows, and presses a soft kiss to the side of your head. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” He whispers. “Shuuuush, it’s okay, I’m right here.” Five’s voice is soft and low. He holds you tighter, rocking you lightly back and forth. “I’ve got you now.”
You press your face into Five’s chest, sobbing heavily. You couldn’t breathe. “I-It’s n-not o-okay,” You struggled to say. Five pulls you in even tighter. “I-I saw something, F-Five. F-fuck, I-I c-can’t lose you.”
Five’s fingers gently come through your hair. “You aren’t going to lose me,” Five coos. But his words cut like a knife. Truth was, you knew you were going to. Everything felt so overwhelming. It felt like a family of elephants had sat on your chest, and your respiratory system could no longer function because of it. The walls of your room continue to close in on you and Five.
You pull apart from Five for a second, trying to catch your breath. “E-everything is too much. I c-can’t h-hande my p-powers anymore,” You cry out. “I can’t j-just be happy, for once? Things can’t just stay good, for once in my life?” You’re screaming now. “Of course all of this was too good to be true. I don’t deserve any of this! I’m nothing, and no one. I’m worthless shit!” More tears stream down your cheeks.
Pain and confusion spread across Five’s face. He inches closer to you, wrapping his arms around you yet again. You bury your face in his neck. “You are enough, (Y/N). You are more than enough. Everything anyone has ever lead you to believe about who you are, and what you’re worth, is absolute bullshit,” Five coos, his hands rubbing gently against your back. “I love you, and I’m not going anywhere.”
“Y-you d-don’t know that. I’m going to lose you, Five,” You sob.
“Tell me what happened,” Five whispers. “Where did all of this come from?” He asks.
You swallow harshly, preparing yourself to explain to Five what you had seen. “I-I h-had a premonition,” You pause, attempting to collect your thoughts. “Y-you, w-well y-you…” You trail off, pulling away from Five. You study his face, his piercing blue eyes, his chocolate brown hair. A single tear falls from your eye and rolls down your jawline “Y-you d-died. Y-you’re g-going t-to…” You can’t go on. Five pulls you in again.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Five says, his fingers combing through your hair again. “You aren’t going to lose me. It was just a vision. For all we know, it’ll remain a vision. It might not turn into anything more.”
You sniffle. “I know what I saw. Five, s-someone i-is g-going to sh-shoot y-you.”
Five stops playing with you hair, and he has no response. Silence looms over the room. Unfortunately, your visions were more ‘accurate’ if they showed a specific cause of death, and the bullet wound in Five’s chest was a clear and specific cause of death.
“Wh-what a-are we going t-to do?” You ask, pulling away from Five. For once in his life, Five is at a loss for words. He always had some sort of response for everything. He always had some sort of answer. Sometimes, it came off as cocky, or smug, but regardless, he always knew what to do. He always had a plan.
This time, however, was different. This could very well be the end of everything.
Five swallows harshly, his ocean eyes searching yours as if it was the last time he would ever be able to see you. “I-I d-don’t know,” Five says, standing up. He begins to pace back and forth. “Do you know who k-killed me?” Five asks.
“N-no, but you were under a sycamore tree. I don’t know what was so important about that, but that was…well, that was where I f-found y-you,” You explain.
Five shakes his head. “Maybe it’s The Handler, or The Commission,” Five begins to pace faster, his steps becoming more rushed and frantic. “Are you sure it was a bullet wound? Maybe Vanya somehow escaped again? Maybe it was her?”
You simply shake your head, unable to give Five a real answer. It’s impossible for you to form coherent thoughts or sentences at a time like this. Whoever killed Five could be anyone, or anything. Maybe Vanya did escape, and maybe she found a gun. Maybe The Handler caught Five messing with time again, or found something new to blame him for. Nevertheless, everything was happening so quickly. All hell was breaking loose.
“Is there anything else you noticed about what you saw, anything that could help us?” Five questions. He stops pacing, and sits back down on the bed next to you.
“Wh-when I f-found y-you, i-it was night,” You explain, sniffling a bit. You remember what he was wearing when you found him. “You had on a Bowie shirt, and a flannel, and jeans.”
Five scratches the back of his neck anxiously. “That’s what I was going to wear today. I had the day planned for us. I was hoping you’d want to go see a showing of The Man Who Fell to Earth at that old theater downtown…” Five trials off.
Tears continue to stream down your cheeks. “Th-then t-today i-is…” You don’t have the strength to finish your sentence.
“Not if we don’t go out. Maybe we can cheat death,” Five’s eyes light up with hope.
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try.”
To Be Continued…
