When you tell me not to worry you don't mean it in a condescending or insolent way. You've simply never been in a situation you couldn't get out of on your own and I just want to be someone you need. Just once, for an hour or two. You could put your head on my shoulder and release the tears that must have been building up behind your bright eyes for years. I could put my arms around you and hold your pieces together, watching you fall apart beneath my touch just enough so that I can put you back together afterward. But I was never under the illusion that I had to fix you and maybe I can't deal with thinking you'd be just as content if I wasn't around. Unlike you, I can't stop the doubts from creeping in sometimes. You will always find your way. As reassuring as that knowledge is, it also makes me feel a little sad.
