Test Tuesday

During quarantine last year when people were hoarding toilet paper, I was hoarding art supplies. I tried to make a concentrated effort to use up items in my house before spending money on new products and I’ve been trying to do the same with my art.

Tonight’s test was using premixed fluid art paint (Deco Art) layered with my regular hand mixed dry pigments.

I’ve used premixed paint before (Primal Flow/Artist Loft) and usually they look great wet and after resin coated but they tend to usually dry very matte or the paint gives off the impression that it’s been stretched too thin.

These were all layered a fluid with a pigment and so far they’re looking good. A few measle-y (the white sports that pop through) looking spots, but that can happen if I blow too hard or bubbles from the base paint came through. Now I just need to wait for them to dry 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Test Night

About 2 weeks ago I scored a 5 gallon bucket of mistinted white paint for about $20. It’s not my usually paint, not the finish I usually need and it’s going to be more than enough to last me a couple of months but it’s worth a try.

Tonight was mostly about testing different consistencies with the white paint (the base) and seeing how the finish (matte vs my usual satin) will support my colors (most of which have some sort of glittery/mica sparkle), seeing how they handle drying and using up a bunch of old paint.

Some of these will probably get scrapped but it wasn’t a bad night.
