Danny's adopted, but his parents...aren't who you'd think.
It was a genuine adoption; a teenage mother who couldn't handle a child, giving up a baby to a family better suited for it.
Danny, meanwhile, turned into a halfa, saved the world multiple times, and became the Ghost King.
He's sitting through a boring meeting with the Observants, subtly doing his math homework behind the piles of paperwork in front of him, when one of them says something...off.
"I suppose it would only make sense you'd inherit a throne; you were always destined for one."
After some questioning, prodding, and outright threatening, the Observant flat out says what he means.
Danny's father is Arthur Curry, Aquaman; King of Atlantis.
The only reason Danny survived becoming a halfa the way he did was because of the diluted Atlantean blood in him. It wouldn't be enough for him to live underwater, but it was enough to bolster him so that he could semi-survive high exposure to Ectoplasmic Radiation.
He'd be seen as crippled by any pureblood Atlantean, due to his human heritage outweighing his Atlantean one.
That was what the Observant had meant.
Atlantis was always going to deny Danny the throne there, so of course Fate would rewrite itself to see that the little King got a Throne regardless.
Now Danny has a conundrum.
Because he was invited to a meeting with the Justice League, and Aquaman is absolutely going to be there.
someone should really tell the elves that yes they are oppressing the other species and no it’s not ok and yes they gnomes are slaves and no they can’t leave whenever they want it’s not safe for them to do so and yes you do have racism in the form of speciesism and no you aren’t superior to the other species
We make speciesism socially acceptable by telling ourselves formalised, systemic violence is a necessity. We weave the deceitful narrative that nonhuman animals' place in the world is below us, to be used by us -- at 'best' as an accessory. Much like all oppressions, speciesism and ableism are linked in that all those complicit weaponise ideas of rationality, morality and civility by internalising the indoctrination that nonhumans and disabled people don't feel, are less intelligent, or capable than us leading to their socially inferior position
if you hate cats, you just havent earned the love of a cat. you get what you give. "but i give them love and they hate me, so it's only fair to hate them too!" consider... you do not know how to love a cat. there's good news though! you can learn, and you should. cats don't deserve your hate. no animal does, actually.
I think that the animal right's movement could benefit from teaming up with the children's rights movement. The movements are similar for a few reasons:
Both children and animals have a lower legal status as adult humans and are sometimes considered property
Both groups have limitations that make them dependent on adult humans
The abilities and intelligence of both groups are often undermined
Their boundaries and wants can be ignored
Both children and animals are subjected to legal violence under the form of "discipline" that isn't acceptable for adult humans
The bodily autonomy of both groups is often denied and choices about them is often made for the benefit of their guardians and not themselves
They are sometimes seen as things to acquire for the entertainment of adult humans. "So when are you two going to have kids? You have to have some, they're so cute!" "I got you a puppy as a present! Look how cute they are!"
Their civil rights often depend on the votes and organisation of adult humans
Comparing other civil rights movements (lgbt rights, women's rights, racial equality) to this civil rights movement is often seen as offensive. Similarly, comparisons to animals or children have often been used to undermine these other groups and deny them basic rights.
Both groups have a different brain structure then adult humans, and thus different needs and behaviours.
So since animal rights activists and children's rights activists are often adult humans speaking on someone else's behalf, it would be helpful for us to work together and understand how to do that respectfully.
Just a goddamn annoying reminder that a vegan diet is more sustainable than omnivore or vegetarian diets. If you think of counter arguments when you read this, re-evalutate those arguments. I haven't heard a new one in a while and all the old ones are flawed. Ok thanks go on with your day
