you all pestered me for it and here it is. the closeness analysis/ theory.

now if you didn't see I basically had this theory that the closer to BIG and COTY we get in the DAPG timeline the closer dan and phil sit to each other. Dan made a comment about how them playing Heartthrob being like a gay soft launch and that got me thinking of some other ways they could have done it and one of those being the idea that as time goes on you get less and less strict and worrisome about what others think of you and so they end up gravitating closer and closer.

This post will be under a see more cos its probably gonna be long af.

2014 - 15

now when i initially went to collect my evidence, i was suddenly worried maybe i kinda had things wrong because i feel like in Donkey Kong Country (the first dapg video, see screenshot below) they're sat pretty close but honestly when we get to how they sit a lot later on you'll see that this is actually pretty far apart

now here are some screenshots for the inital look at at the end of them we'll talk (this will be the layout for most of this post i think)

now of course this is only a selection of those year's videos if i screenshotted them all i fear this post would never end. now these first 2 years are a good mix of at desk videos on sofa videos. i noticed from some other videos not show here that in sofa videos they rend to sit a lot closer to each other than they do at the desk, this is kinda funny to me cos really they definitely have room for a wider frame on the couch if they wanted to sit like normal people.

2016 - 17

2016 and the start of 2017 feel like a mixed bag of how close together they are but i did notice that the more into 2017 we got the more they seemed to be shoulder to shoulder! these also started to wean out sofa sitting games (not 100% gone yet but almost). now if you're wondering why i've kept this screenshot apart its cos this is the last one in the first london apartment.

and honestly from here on out is where i believe the "soft launching" begins!

watching these videos definitely feels like something changed btw, while they still arent as close as we'll start seeing them sit, i definitely noticed more often they were shoulder to shoulder. but like a new room has definitely changed the vibe a little bit between them, and now we can move on to the next and final year of pre hiatus dapg, where things as you will see immediately start to change.

like i said... immediately we are met with this, i would also like to let everyone know that 2018 is my favourite era of pre hiatus dapg

now i'm splitting 2018 up into parts because i need to do a whole talk about the tour situations so for now lets look at the above screenshots, now its very obvious that they are sitting so much closer to each other which i think is really funny considering how big that room is and often in this section of videos there is a lot of room either side of them so they literally do not need to be that close.

You can delete comments or plain out disable comments from your posts! So much control.

You can also edit your posts. It even was a meme back on the olden days where a post would go viral and then the op (original poster) would change the post to something silly and the reblogers would look like wierdos or dumdums lol

You can disable your asks or make a rule so people can't ask as anonymous

Report spams!! You can even get rewarded for it. But, even so, report it, they get immediately taken down temporarily

The report system work and the tumblr team is very responsible when investigating an account/post. It's not nuance and easy to make. No one will judge you for it, in fact, it's common culture to do so. It's how we battle pornbots, spams, hate blogs etc.

You have full control of your blog! What people can see, what it can show, block hashtags and the whole shbang.

The algorithm works! Only the things that YOU search for and like will be recommended to you. And if something u no longer has interest in shows up? Just click that u don't want anymore and immediately everything u don't want goes away.

There are many famous blogs that are fun to follow, specifically as newcomer, to really get u on the tumblr experience such as: heritageposts, thebootydiaries, hotboyproblems, showerthoughtsofficial, fartgallery, haikubotofficial and many others. These are just the ones I followed when first arrived back in 2016;

Yes, there are celebrities among us but they're just... here. Vibing, chilling. The most famous ones being Neil Gaiman and Taylor Swift. Here they are just people;

You might have noticed a lot of blogs with blue verification badges. Some with 20 of them. Some are rainbow! That's because Tumblr made a parody of the verification mark from twt and it was fcking hilarius. We loved it so much that it's a thing now. U too can feel very important if u want!

It's worth going the trending tags. Sometimes they are broken, but it's mostly memes or important world news stuff that are actually relevant and helpful. It's safe and you'll have a fun time lurking on other people's fandoms. That's actually how I got into some of my fandoms to begin with;

That happens to include an incredible resurgence in my love for MCU fanfic, the community around it and all the love that goes into them. And no worries! In answer to your question, I don't think Z really "asked Tom out", I think she just kinda just put it out there that she liked him. 🤷🏾‍♀️

YEARS ago, Z used to have this app and website where she would answer fan questions (usually with Darnell lol), and give her pov on various topics. One day, she answered a fan's question that dealt with the fan having a crush on a guy but being afraid to admit it or whatever (I forget the fan's exact question), and Z shared her own experience.

She admitted that she too has been kinda nervous in the past to really admit that she likes a guy, and she usually ends up accidentally friend-zoning guys in the process lol 😆.... But, she added that she recently worked up the nerve to say smthg.

She said something like:

“I just recently got courage enough to be like’ listen, I like you, are we doing this?’”

She also mentioned how she hates the "in between" stage, where two ppl don't really know how the other one feels.... it gives her anxiety lol.

I personally think what probably happened was that Tom and Zendaya were obviously vibing with each since day one of working with each other for HOCO filming.... But, like MOST guys, he was probably intimidated by her and wasn't quite sure if she liked him as just a friend and costar, or as smthg more. 🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s a different sort of high being a fan of BTS, isn’t it?

It’s a different sort of joy seeing them be their remarkable, awe-inspiring and goofy selves. It’s so beautiful to see the love they so clearly have for each other. It feels a little too intimate sometimes, and in my experience, this is a feeling that’s unique to BTS. This group is very special. What they’ve got feels genuine because it is.

Let me go on a short tangent here:

Now, what do you think about the way Yoongi introduced his alternate persona: AGUST D in 2016? The way he enunciates that phrase is sickening and intentional. The very mention of his name in the mouths of his detractors is a sickness they get from him fucking them. Or ‘fat dicking’ them, to quote Yoongi. And that quality, one he doesn’t shy from turning on himself too, coupled with his pragmatic and caustic delivery… lord. He sets himself apart from every other artist alive. Nobody in BTS cuts to the bullshit faster than Yoongi - he’s lived through the consequences of deluding yourself that you’re okay when you’re not. He’s a man who is constantly examining himself, checking his worst tendencies, but never compromising on what he truly believes.

Ugh.

Times like tonight, I look at BTS and feel so much calm. They are so competent, and I’m certain whatever they make, it will be very good. Yoongi has proven that so far with this tour. Yoongi’s D-DAY concert tour is easily the best solo concerts I’ve been to this decade, and I haven’t even attended one yet. But it’s easily the best one. Easily. And I’ve been to a lot (actually been to them), especially in the last 12 months.

That crowd Jimin pulled for the Tiffany’s event is no joke. We’re now at the point where Western celerities know they’re not the main popularity driver if Jimin is also involved. They know the crowds are there for Jimin. And when he eventually showed up, he looked magnificent. Elegant. Polished. Understated. One of these days I want to see Jimin bejewelled and dressed in all primary colours - something more vibrant and queer. But that Tiffany’s event went for traditional and understated and that’s okay. It worked, because Jimin can work anything.

Hello friends and fans!! I finally have some updates for ya’ll!

I’ve been working on this project alone for months, specifically since the day Pixelberry announced they will no longer continue forward with Immortal Desires. I was so crushed and saw so many other players and fans feel the same way. So, I decided to start messing around with making my own fan sequel after seeing @itlivesproject @thedistantshoresproject and @nightboundthesecond doing so well and seeing amazing products. I’m going to school for a BA in Game Art and Design, and my minor is Creative Writing, and I thought this would be a good go for my first video game. And I couldn’t be more excited to see things falling into place! I now have a writer onboard! I’ve been a long-time fan and player of Choices; I started playing in December of 2016, but I started getting into the fandom somewhere around the end of 2018, and started on an IG that I created way back in 2014. I didn’t really intend to make my IG account about Choices, but I wanted to connect with people who have the same interests as me, and to share my ideas and opinions about the book releases. A very dear friend of mine started teaching me how to collect assets at some point in time, and I’ve been kind of considered a Spoiler Queen ever since then lol. I focused on posting premium scenes because I want everyone to see those scenes since not everyone can afford them. I started making edits way back in October 2019 because I really wanted people to distinguish me. All in all, I’m very fortunate that my best bud showed me how to access these assets.

Ally has been wonderful in helping me acquire assets and just being super supportive and so helpful. She is so enthusiastic about this project and has been just giving the best vibes!

Now that you’ve met the team, time for some awaited updates for ya’ll! First, lets start with the preview!!.

So, to state the obvious, this is everyone in their formal wear! I have also given all of the side characters formal wear, but I felt like these are what the people are screaming for! And of course, we have our lil Sethy-poo included in here too and he got a makeover! If you would be so kind to click play at the video at the top because it’s featuring a rough draft of the title song. It’s my own lil creation, however, I’m recruiting folks from my local music scene to not only help out with this project, but to help support their bands and their projects!

Super bummed that the quality of these dropped because of the formatting, but I have included all three of the new expressions I’ve created: playful, shy, and disgusted. All of the main and primary characters have these faces! I have also gotten all of the female MC sprite sheets done, most of the female clothes, and all of the hair; I’m so excited to give you guys that update in the future!! From here, Mir and I will be working on a very rough draft of the story. I will continue working on assets for the MC since almost all of the primary/main characters are done.

long ramble because i just dropped my gf off at the airport and I am a fucking mess with too many thoughts in my brain

over the last couple weeks, i finally met one of my partners—the one ive been with longer than ive been with literally anyone else in my life. despite being together since mid 2016, this was the first time we both had the wherewithal to make a visit happen, and while that may seem like it took way too long, for a lot of reasons that you don't need to know, it couldn't have happened at a more perfect time.

she flew in on the 26th and immediately i knew we would get along just as easily as we had online for years before then. both of us have always talked about how quiet and introverted we are, but it was one of those things where i didn't know if we were going to truly vibe irl until it happened, even if both of us were pretty sure we would.

we always talked abt how the first car ride from the airport was going to be awkward—it's a 3 hour drive from my place to there. both of us are slow to work up to physical affection, but when i picked her up, it wasn't but like ten or twenty minutes into the ride before we were wrapped up in each other. it just clicked. that's so incredibly rare for me with anyone. even partners ive established intimacy with, i usually have to re-warm up to them after time apart. so the fact that we connected so quickly when we first met was so special.

im a pretty boring, solitary person. my favorite activities are ones in which it's quiet and i can do my own thing. this is always a bit scary for me. i don't want to bore anyone just because my brain only ever feels like engaging with what it wants. but that wasn't a problem with her—quite the opposite, actually. we could just sit there and quietly do our own thing in my room, and it felt every bit as special as it would if we went out and did things. there was no pressure for either of us. we settled into each other's patterns instantly. within days, it felt like she'd been living with us all along. i wished that were the case.

distance is hard. it's a lot of counting. how many miles apart you are. how many hours, days it would take to close the gap. how much time will it be before you can be together for real.

and then, when you plan a visit, it becomes about counting down, and that's so exciting. you start counting the months until it's time. before you know it, you're counting the weeks. it's something to look forward to. something to hang on to.

but the moment you meet, the countdown isnt exciting anymore. it gets a lot harder. you might still have weeks to count, but before you know it, weeks become days. days become hours. hours become minutes. minutes become mile markers, and mile markers become exits, exits become streets, streets become steps, and steps become seconds spent holding each other, waiting for the other to pull away because it's the last thing you want to do. but you have to. that's the only way to start the count over. and that sucks. because you dont get to know how long it's going to be until way later. but just the same, you don't know when the next countdown will be the last one. it's the most terrifying assurance there is.

i feel blessed that me, her, and all my partners exist in the same time, in a reality where we have the ability to connect to each other despite how unlikely the chances of us ever meeting were. i feel lucky to live in a world where, one day, a silly string of text like @nudist-squid can be the first name i know someone who will eventually become one of the most important people in my life by.

but at the same time, im heartbroken and devastated. it feels cruel that we met because of certain circumstances, and yet we exist so far away for those same reasons. and closing that gap takes so much from both of us, and there's no promise we can ever close it for good. but if I can help it, I certainly want to try.

this summer has been dogshit. ive been through so much unnecessary bullshit, and when things have been looking to improve, something else happens. but this was the most wonderful bookend to a dismal season i could have asked for.

The next day for the Festa, a surprise video for BTS’ YouTube channel was released. Armies were surprised to see it was Jin in the kitchen, with an apron on while cooking. Then he turned around.

“There is a certain someone that I have unfinished business with Army,” he spoke. “Someone by the name of Miss Bangtan. I want my championship. The K-Pop title is supposed to be mine and I demand a rematch! You see, I was going easy on you and I’ll admit I underestimated you. But this time, I won’t be holding back! Jin will show no mercy this time! I mean it! I will win! I am worldwide handsome, do you understand!?“

The caption, ‘StopJennie2K16’ came up on the screen

“This time, it will be the match of my choosing. After doing my research on types of wrestling matches, I challenge you to a Falls Count Anywhere match! We wrestle everywhere! At any time! I am taller than you! I am stronger than you, and I will beat you! Jin versus Jennie part 2, coming very soon on your local Bangtan Bomb! Now...accept my challenge, missy! That title needs a more worthy champion to hold it,” he pointed his spatula at the camera and signed out after blowing a kiss.

For the day of their birthday festa event for V-Live, the members were currently at their dress rehearsal. Everyone seemed to be anticipating Jin and Rapmon’s dance battles the most as they sat in their seats.

“You’re freaking cool!” V encouraged as the lights went out, with Rapmon waiting for the music to come on. “Woo!”

“Okay!” Jen cheered as he began to dance.

Yoongi and Hobi started laughing as they watched him.

“His expression is daebak!” Suga said

“Oooooohhhhhh!” V cheered.

After he finished his last move, Jen started screaming with the rest of the members as they all cheered and freaked out.

“That’s my leader! He killed that 'ish! He killed it!” she shouted.

“Wow, you’re cool!” Jin added.

“He’s good. Really good,” Jimin praised.

“Hyung’s coming now,” Jungkook announced on the mic. 

“Wooooooooo! Let’s go Jin!” Jennie cheered as the lights popped on and he began to dance. 

Yoongi and Hobi were cracking up while she and V were bouncing in their seats, vibing to his performance.

“He’s so, so awesome!” Jimin spoke.

“Okay! Okay! I see you, Jin! That’s what I’m talking about!” Jennie shouted.

She was proud of them both. They worked so hard and it paid off. She knew viewers were going to enjoy it.

Next up was Jen, Jungkook, and Jimin’s coming of age ceremony.

“Ah, I think it’s going to be so embarrassing,” Jimin called out.

“We’ll look forward to it!” Jin announced.

“We're going to kill it! We'll be fine,” Jen cheered.

“Fighting!” V quickly said.

As the song came on, the members watched them dance. Jen was in the middle for the performance, giving it 110% as the members cheered.

"Look at Jennie!" Rapmon cheered. "Go, Jennie!"

Hobi pointed out that Jimin had gotten some of the dance moves wrong in the beginning.

“Their moves are different from each other!” Jin called out.

“Everybody! Stand up! Clap! Clap!” J-Hope announced as he jumped around.

Jimin covered his face, laughing while Jennie stood up with her phone. Putting the flashlight on, she started waving it around. When Hobi started screaming into the mic, she sat back down and laughed, covering her mouth while Jungkook stomped his feet and slapped his thigh while laughing.

“Oh my gosh...” she said as they continued to sing all extra.

“My throat freaking hurts,” J-Hope said in the mic after they finished.

“That was cool,” Rapmon stated. “You guys are cool. Really cool.”

“You guys are good.” Jin praised.

“Jennie, you’re up,” the staff announced.

“Oh boy,” she got out of her seat and made her way to the stage.

“ENNIE!” V and Jimin cheered.

“Go, Jennie! Go, Jennie! Go! Go! Go, Jennie!” Hobi rapped.

“This is going to be funny,” Rapmon chuckled.

A couch was already placed on the stage and she kneeled behind it as the lights went out. As soon as the music came on, the lights popped back on and she rose up to sit on the couch and began to sing. The guys watched her admiringly and even laughed since they knew how much she preferred more badass concepts.

Hobi studied the intensity of her movements, making sure she was doing the moves right since she had asked him about a few dance moves while practicing. Rapmon nodded his head to the beat while the Maknae Line started dancing, swaying in their seats. Periodically they would shout silly things to cheer her on.

“Perfect weather can’t get no better,” she rapped.

“OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” the guys shouted as she started rapping on the couch.

Tonight, It’s the night

“I’m proud of smartie! She has done well with the rap!” Suga smiled at the camera.

“He’s so happy,” Hobi giggled.

Next up was V’s Cypher pt 3 solo stage which was what Jennie had been anticipating the most. She stood on the side of the stage with the members.

As the song began, V began bouncing. “Ohhhhh. Oh, oh, oh. Do you know this song?” he asked as Jennie danced with Hobi.

V even was wearing Suga’s outfit for the occasion as he began rapping his heart out.

“Hi, I’m Kim Taehyung, I’m so happy I get to rap like this. Ho-ho-ho-ho-ho- oh shit!” he rapped passionately.

The guys continued to laugh as Jimin threw his body forward, holding his stomach while Jennie continued bopping around with a proud smile on her face. Everyone made their way on stage as V started bouncing around for the chorus.

As the chorus came on again, V started dabbing around and Jen joined him as they jumped all over the stage dancing with each other. Suga took over his own verse before V could as they all laughed. After the song ended, even the staff was laughing.

“I’ll create a surprise twist,” Suga replied.

“Yeah, do the twist, then V goes and then we can-“

“Together. Everyone do it together,” Rapmon suggested.

“And then at the last chorus, we’ll all play together,” Hobi added.

“This wasn’t planned, right?” Jimin asked.

For the opening of the show, Jin and Jen waited for their cue as the camera was now on Jimin and J-Hope. The camera panned to them and they both picked up the piece of paper and held it together as it said, ‘BTS Happy Birthday’

They turned to each other, smiled, and started walking towards the stage. Then they turned around and blocked the camera with their hands.

“Hey, is this your first three year anniversary party?” Rapmon announced, opening up for Dope over the screaming fans who waved their Army Bombs.

After performing Dope, they stood on stage together and did their signature greeting. Rapmon started off by greeting the fans and saying that they were streaming on V-Live+. For the event, J-Hope and Jimin were today’s MCs.

“This segment is to recognize BTS’s three hard years and Army fans,” J-Hope announced. “It’s called BTS Awards.”

“Last week, we asked fans to pick our best photo, the best Bangtan Bomb, and the best moment for BTS,” Jimin said. “Let’s see the candidates and see who got first,”

There were chairs placed for each member as they took a seat. Jennie sat in between Suga and V. They checked out the candidates for best photo as they looked at the screen.

“Oh wow~!” Jen said. 

One was from the fire MV, the other was from their three year anniversary and the other seemed like it was from the Begins concert. The members watched as Jimin unveiled each photo which had a variety of dots on them to determine which one had the most votes.

“You need help?” Jennie laughed when Jimin pulled off the cover for the first picture but it almost fell over and J-Hope had to fix it.

“He always needs help,” Jungkook replied, making them laugh.

“Jimin, this almost fell over,” J-Hope said. “Don’t do that,”

In the end, the Begins concert photo got the most votes.

“Let’s pick our best BTS Bomb,” Jimin said as they looked at the screen.

The one where they were having fun in the hotel, got the most votes.

For BTS’ best moment, everyone voted for when they debuted. 

“That day was the start of our journey. So many memorable moments. We’re extremely grateful for you all being there for us for three years. Let’s hope for many more.” Jen beamed.

“We’re more than happy about this. I heard our Army fans have awards for us too,” Suga added.

“In our special BTS Awards, Army fans prepared awards for BTS,” J-Hope announced. “Rap Monster. The first of many. 772 Award.” he said as 772 meant clumsy.

“I present this award for his excellence. From BTS army fans June 13, 2016. There are other awards. Destroyed the world award.” Jimin announced.

That made Jen laugh with Rapmon and the audience. Rapmon also won the buy two shoes with 10,000 won award.

Jin won the looks good every day, Old Man’s Jokes, Everything tastes good/tasty meals, and Korean meals awards.

“He got five awards. I’m envious.” Suga said.

“Thank you. I’ll make an old man’s joke to honor this moment.” Jin said. “What’s the biggest nose in the world?”

Suga won ‘Otousan’, ‘Suga genius best man’ and ‘I can die for Naver’ awards. With the Otousan award, Hobi explained that Suga seems chic but cares for other members and fans. So like a father figure.

“I’ll do my best to be worthy of these awards. Thank you,” Suga replied.

J-Hope won dances like a God, shares hope with the world and You can depend on Hobi awards. Jimin won Jungkook’s mom award, fan café fairy and Fatal award. The fatal award was about his charm. V won A walking case study, Meant to be, and the T-Zone great looks award.

Jungkook won suspiciously quiet, Jungkook’s face but Jungkook’s body, and everyone’s guy award.

“Ennie~!” Jimin sang as cheers got louder once she stood up with a smile and made her way over to him. “Awards. Name. Jennie. I present to you the Smartie Gobbler award, Nike’s force of greatness and cutest DJ,“

“Why thank you very much,” she bowed, taking the paper. “One day I’ll be able to endorse Nike and become a true force of greatness for their product. Nike if you’re watching this, I am still available!”

“It’s been years. Someone from the company call her up,” Suga laughed.

She went to shake Jimin’s hand and then V eagerly shook her hand too before she went back to her seat.

“I want to give BTS an award. It goes like this, BTS always thinks of Army award,” Suga said and pointed to the crowd, making them cheer while Hobi laughed.

For the next segment, the members decide to make their own cake. A table was brought up on stage and there were two cakes on the table. Their table consisted of ingredients for them to decorate.

“Shouldn’t we just let Jennie do this? She bakes.” Jimin suggested.

“Yeah, a lot. And her baking is delicious.” Rapmon added.

“I actually baked these cakes,” Jen replied.

“Oh! Perfect!” Jin cheered.

“Thank goodness. It’s been a while since we had your delicious baking,“ V said.

“I also baked for Army. You’ll be receiving cupcakes that I made for you all,” she announced to loud cheers. “A token of my appreciation for embracing me here in Korea. Thank you again.”

“Awwwwww,” they responded and chanted her name, which caused her to smile and bow.

Bangtan was set to team up in two teams to decorate. For the teams, it was Jin, Jungkook, and Jimin going up against Rapmon, V and Jen.

“We have Jennie, it’s OK,” Rapmon said confidently.

As they decorated it, Jen used the icing to spell out BTS in a decorative way while V and Jimin began dancing around, entertaining the crowd.

“I need you to destroy these cookies. Destroy them and then sprinkle them all over. I don't care about it looking neat. It’ll look fine with the crumbs,” Jen said as Rapmon did what he was told.

After the time was up, their cakes were judged.

“If she wasn’t on our team, we would’ve screwed up the cake with the cream.” Rapmon laughed.

After the segment, they went to go change, meanwhile, a video was played of Bang PD. Backstage in a separate dressing room, Jen changed into her outfit for the Coming of Age Ceremony, wearing a suit. While she got ready, SOPE performed.

When she made her way to the stage, waiting to go on, she met up with Jungkook and Jimin. She high fived Jimin and turned to Jungkook.

"We got this!" she gave Jungkook a quick peck on the lips.

As the three of them got on stage, ARMY screamed and cheered as they performed effortlessly with Jennie singing the song and dancing in the middle sensually. 

After the performance, she quickly rushed backstage to change for the Full Moon performance. She wore an outfit similar to Sunmi's in the music video in black while going barefoot.

Sitting in a chair, the make up artist began to put red lipstick on her lips and finished up her look to make her look like a vampire just like Sunmi in her music video. 

After getting situated, she stood backstage, pacing around, as her nerves began to get to her.

“Perfect weather can get no better!” Hobi rapped as he made his way over to her with a bright smile. That helped calm her nerves and she let out a laugh. “You’re going to do great out there. Especially the rap,” he kissed her forehead.

Once it was her time to shine, she made her way to the stage. The stage was dark as the couch was placed in the middle, waiting for her. She kneeled behind it as she heard the crowd anticipating what was next. As the music started, she slowly rose up from the couch with the lights appearing on the stage. That piercing gaze in her eyes made fans scream as she made her way to the couch.

She began to sing in a low, mature voice as she sat on the couch and danced.

“Thank you! I love you!” she giggled and walked off the stage once the lights turned off.

After her performance, it was now time for V’s as he rapped cypher pt 3, dancing around the stage.

The members walked on the stage as they crossed their arms, staring at him while V rapped J-Hope’s verse. Jennie danced around, bopping to the beat, watching him proudly. She started laughing while V started poking J-Hope and then Rapmon. As planned, V and Suga rapped his verse.

For the last verse, Jen decided to rap with Rapmon, jumping around with him

Loud screams occurred as she covered her face and laughed.

“That was a very sexy stage, munchkin. You looked fierce.”

“Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh,” Jimin sang while Jungkook and Hobi copied her dance moves by exaggeratingly rubbing their hands together, staring at the camera, making everyone laugh.

“I want to praise V. He did such an amazing job. You worked hard and your dream to rap came true. I’m proud of you,” she grinned.

“Thank you Ennie,” he smiled happily and they high fived each other.

“It’s our third anniversary right?” Yoongi asked. “What if we start rising again?

Suddenly Rise of Bangtan came on, hyping the crowd up while the members jumped around.

While the rest of the guys danced around on stage, Jennie made her way to the stage, standing in the background with a mic in hand.

The guys surrounded her, hyping her up as she performed her verse.

“WHOO! My boys and I started at the bottom, now we rising up! And Watch out cause this bullet-proof girl is knockin’ down all the walls! Ain’t nothing stoppin’ us now, they got my back, I got theirs! We steppin’ over all the roadblocks. Our music is on and you can’t help but move to the rhythm. Don’t even try to hide it, this beat is sick, so rock with me now.”

She danced around all extra with the members.

“Ladies! Rise like a Bulletproof Girl Scout! Rise, be brave! Let's go, Jungkook!” She high fived him as he started rapping.

As the chorus came back on again, she threw her head around, dancing with J-Hope.

After they finished the song, Satoori Rap came on, as the rap line performed with the vocal line jumping and dancing around on stage. Jennie milly rocked on stage with Jin and V joining. 

Fire came on, which excited the crowd even more as they performed and they wore special jerseys for the occasion. After the song, Namjoon began the closing remarks as the event was about to end. A chorus of awwws was heard. He then asked the members how they felt about fire being suited for them. After their closing remarks, they ended the festa with fun boys.

After the show, Jennie, V, and Hobi went out to have a night picnic while walking Tony.

Tony energetically ran around, playing with V as they were all seated on the grass, enjoying their food and light music in the background. The three reminisced on their festa event and Tony was lying down, enjoying belly rubs from V.

Looking up at Jennie who finished listening to Hobi about his performance with Yoongi, V said, “Ennie, I want to say thank you for hyping me up when I was performing and practicing for Cypher. It made me very happy. I appreciate that.”

Jen smiled softly as Tony nuzzled against her. “Of course! You deserve it. Now hopefully one day the rap line can put you on a cypher-”

“Noooooooo,” Hobi interrupted as they laughed. “Yoongi would have a fit.”

“Well, we’re still going to try and make it happen,” she replied.

The night consisted of laughter as the two boys made fun of her dancing to Full Moon. She retaliated by kicking Hobi in the butt, making him fall.

After they finished eating, they lay on their backs, in a circle and watched the stars.

She took a selfie of them and posted it on Instagram. 'Thank you for 3 wonderful years of BTS! I love y'all!'

Her comment section was flooded with positive responses and unfortunately Matt Rife even commented again.

MattRife: You are so gorgeous...

Which caused fans to comment to him to back off once again.

Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.

Jen checked her phone to see a surprise text from Chanyeol.

Chanyeol: Hey Jennie! Congrats on three years with BTS! I wanted to discuss something with you. We have music on our repackaged album that will be released in a few months. We were thinking of having a second version of a song or two with a feature in it. We thought it would be great to have you featured in one of them if you’re interested.

That surprised her. A song with EXO? That would be so fun!

Jen: omg yes! ABSOLUTELY! Send it, please! I want to hear it!

Chanyeol: Yay! I’m sending them now.

She then received two audio recordings.

Chanyeol: What do you think? Do you think we can create something? Lay and Sehun can teach you the choreography. We can work on the lyrics. We’re making music videos for them too. It would be a pleasure for you to be in it too.

Putting her earbuds in, she pressed play while looking up at the stars. The beats for them were sick as she fell in love with the sound. She felt a sense of empowerment with it too, thinking of various ideas.

Jen: Omg.

Jen: Are you kidding?

Chanyeol: Don’t like the songs? :(

Jen: No goofball! This is lit! Both of them!

Chanyeol: So you’ll do it?!

Jen: Yes!! I’m in!

She was suddenly messaged with tons of happy emojis, making her laugh softly.

Leo Valdez in Ceaseless Eve: Let's Discuss

⚠️ The following contains spoilers for any & all of Ceaseless Eve ⚠️

How can I begin to talk about my boy??

To start, I should probably give some context or lore about me:

I started reading the books when I was nine. I was sick in bed one day, and my dad wanted to read me something to make me feel better. "It's just like Harry Potter!" he'd said, holding up a copy of The Lightening Theif. (My ill feelings towards the wizard books now, I had inhaled the series when I was eight and read nothing else. Thank goodness I expanded my horizons, right?).

So, he started to read Percy Jackson while I laid in bed...

And I hated it, lol.

What can I say? I was a brat. Or maybe I just wanted to be left alone with my stomachahce or fever or whatever I was sick with. So, one chapter in, my dad gave up and left me alone.

When I felt better, I picked the book back up...and I went through the entire first series in a week. Even now, my dad jokes that I just had a problem with him reading them, not the book itself. (And yes, we watched the show together, he enjoyed it--I'm still badgering him to read the books himself though...maybe I should read it to him when he gets sick...)

So, I got into pjo. The details are a little fuzzy on when exactly I read the sequel series, though I believe it was sometime in middle school. All I know was that the moment I first read about Leo...I had the biggest fictional crush on him, lmao. I remember a time in 2016 where 13 year old me would watch Viria's "How Far We've Come" video and I'd write Leo x readers in the notes app of my iPod touch (unfortunately, those fics have all been deleted, otherwise I would not hesitate to share that horror with the world. But rest assured, the reader was very much Not Like Other Girls lol).

I'm not sure when exactly valdangelo first became an interest to me or where I found it, but I remember reading the books and feeling like we were robbed of those two interacting. They were always something in the back of my mind, though I was always working on other projects and had no idea where to start in the event that I did write something for them.

Until the hype for the show was starting, and I thought that it would be cool to explore a bit of an AU quest between Leo, Nico, and Piper. I thought about the one-off line about how a "confused pizza guy" had found his way to Camp Half-Blood once and ran with that. Also, ever since I started working, I give my favorite character my job if applicable. At the time of writing, I was a food delievery person, so that's why I went with that. The fic was really a character study of Leo more than anything, so I really appreciate all of the people saying I got Leo's voice right :')

So, there are a couple big changes that were made with Leo's character in the ceaselessverse that differentiate the character from canon:

1.) Leo doesn't make mean jokes about his questmates.

This is a change that I actually regret making, and I might toy with a sort of compromise in the sequel. At first, people who were anti-leo made comments on how rude he could be, and I saw that as something that needed to be "fixed" in CE.

However, now that I think about it as a neurodivergent person...I can't help but wonder if that is connected to him being neurodivergent? Like with me, especially as a teen, I was anxious in social situations and often didn't know what to say, so I would make jokes, and a lot of them didn't land. Sure, I shouldn't have made those jokes, and Leo shouldn't have made the jokes he did, but the neurodivergent nature of it all as well as him being an awkward teen sort of explains that, it doesn't excuse it. I think the rise of purity culture and the lack of desire for nuanced characters has (pardon my lack of professionalism) fucked up the vibe. Like a lot. I think it's fine (great, even!) for a character you like to have flaws, especially if they stem from an aspect that makes them more relatable. If you want neurodivergent characters but hate them for exhibiting traits that are frowned upon, well...you might just want neurotypical characters with quirks and labels.

2.) Leo isn't a "ladies man"

I don't regret this change at all. That shit was weird, Richard.

That being said, I think it was fine to have a character who has romance on the brain and is flirtatous. Hell, it's even fine to have a character that's weird towards women and tries to "jokingly" sneak a peak at a female character changing (sorry if you were trying to repress page 114 of mark of athena)--that's just fiction, but you can't expect us to root for that character (especially in their goal of getting a girlfriend).

So, while Leo is observant of the girls around him and thinks they're cute, I think this was a change that was adjusted to age better, yk?

3.) Leo was (accidentally) responsible for his mother's death (sorry, Esperanza)

This was the first change made to accomodate the lack of Gaea.

Of course, you'll notice how most all of the character's (outside of those from the og series) backstories were altered to accomodate that, but this was something I was particularly interested in exploring. I'm not going to pretend to be a better writer than our buddy Richard (though I think some of his decisions were really weird...and he'd probably think the same thing about me, tbh), but I think it was a bit of a copout to have Leo think he killed his mom only for it to be Gaea's fault, so he's, like, "redeemed". I wanted to explore a route where Leo was responsible, even by accident, and what that would mean for his greif and healing process. I hope that was explored thoughtfully to you guys in CE.

4.) Leo was a bully to escape bullying

This one was a little controversial lol, but I think it's more interesting.

I can see where it'd make sense in canon to have Leo use his comedy to escape bullying--he does a bit of the same thing in the ceaselessverse, though I believe it works too well. Leo is welcomed into becoming almost like friends with his bullies, though there is clearly a power dynamic at work. I have had "friendships" like this in middle/high school, and I thought it would be interesting to show how lonliness can lead you to make stupid decisions in order to feel, at least a little bit, like you belong somewhere.

This is, of course, stopped as Leo became closer with his sister, Sarah. He finds that caring for someone outside of his own survival starts to make him feel like a person again, and he wants to become better for her sake. It's really sweet to me and highlights yet another great type of platonic relationship dynamic to be explored, but more on Sarah later.

I could talk about Leo's character all day--about how his arc of controlling his abilities instead of fearing them mirrors Piper's, about how his sexuality is (and probably will) never be stated directly in the text, so it's up to reader interpretation (he's vaguely bi but mostly queer To Me but also idc). A favorite tool in Leo's toolbelt: The Dormio

Leo has a lot of cool little knick-knacks, some canon and some not. His wristwatch with the hidden message was a strong contender, but ultimately the Dormio wins for sure. What can I say? I would love to see dreams--maybe not my own (Hypnos plagues me with stress dreams :') ), but other people's.

The Dormio was originally called the DreamViewer, which was kind of a placeholder name because, frankly, it's dumb as shit. I have to credit @heavens-vault for coming up with the new name, thank you <3 The name is based on a dream interfacing system by MIT.

(Did some of the editing get lost in the sauce, and the device is still called the DreamViewer sometimes? Maybe. No further questions without my lawyer lol. I plan on doing a mass edit some time in the future. Save me mass edit, mass edit save me, etc)

All that to say, the Dormio is not a one-off. We'll just have to wait and see what role it plays in Ivory Rain...

Bonus Character!

Sarah McAllen: Let's Discuss

So, my first pjo OC...

Sarah is first foreshadowed in chapter five, when Leo and Piper are discussing the quest at Nico's cabin door:

"Us?" now it was Piper's turn to look confused. "You mean...you understood that line in the prophecy, the 'daughter of doves' thing?"

"Sure I did!" Leo replied, feeling his heart skip a beat, his smile a tad nervous. "There's more to me than good looks, Beauty Queen." Hopefully, that settled Piper for now. Sure, that orientation video was not very informative, but he didn't have to explain to everyone why he knew these things about Greek mythology.

After reading through chapter nine, it should become clear that Leo has a little bit of background knowledge on Greek Mythology due to Sarah's loud interest in Mythomagic. Although their background has been covered in the text, I thought I'd mention a couple things about her.

I realized kinda late in her development that I actually did the same thing in an older longfic for a different fandom I wrote when I was 15--giving the main character a younger sister, motivating him to be better and take care of her. I'm not sure if there's any psychology behind me wanting to write my faves as older brothers, but it's interesting!

I did give Sarah a couple things in common with me, even if she's not a self-insert. She's a writer, one of the reasons she falls into the Apollo cabin. She also has what Nico describes in chapter 18 as a "medical brace" on her knee. This will be further addressed in the sequel, but I gave her the same disablity that I have with my knee. I don't want to delve too deep into the medicality (medicality?) of it all just for my comfort, but I wanted to show a chracter that has a disability but can also be a hero, like they did in the tv show. I hope you guys read that and it made you happy :-)

I will say that Sarah is not going to be too much of a major player in the sequel, I don't want to put my OCs too much into the spotlight when I already have a lot of canon characters I want to work with. Still, she will always be really important to Leo, and their relationship will always be really important to me.

Also! To tell you a secret...she will not be the only OC in the ceaselessverse, but I guess you will have to wait and see what I mean in Ivory Rain...

dick's relationship with bruce + the titans too-long meta

there's been so many of these but i have many thoughts on this subject!!! dick's two biggest allegiances are to the batfa.m and to the titan.s and the two simply do not vibe (with pictures!).

for the most part, i feel like (at least in team settings) the titans are pretty vocal about not being batstans and bruce in kind has never put a 'proud parent of a teen titan' bumper sticker on the batmobile. like i feel like there's so many examples of:

i also think both sides thinks dick goes too easy on the other. that dick will always give batman the benefit of the doubt, and he will always answer a titans call. like the titans are constantly grilling dick about why he would listen to batman:

and batman thinks the titans focus too much on the power of friendship:

& i personally do think its a dash of 'what do you mean you're adults you were twelve yesterday'. like all the titans are the original sidekicks to most of the JL, and generally speaking the firsts of their mantle's so i do think there's a dash of parental caution at letting your newly adult kid do whatever they want with their friends. especially considering its not like theyre working at safety & gentle work emporium theyre all vigilantes/heroes and their missions are often life or death. they also are very excessive about each other and would absolutely kill or die for each other given very little prompting (ex: wally literally turned back time and revived dick grayson, thereby killing himself in this very issue). and the titans cannot go a single run without saying 'we didn't create a team... we created a family' and saying shit like:

when they are also (often) the JLs family. But especially in younger years, like the titans were dicks main reason for ever leaving gotham. and in early years robin, dick's sole focus was gotham, bruce and robin. & they worked so well together, dynamic duo who became such a cohesive unit and spent every waking moment together in some capacity (and often enjoyed that time very much)

but once the titans started to meet his duties split and like any teenage kid he found himself wanting to just hang out with his friends rather than his dad sometimes. and dick was so lonely in the early years and naturally sociable that finding other kids who could relate was so important to him. & i just think there's no doubt the titans were the rift that caused b&r to end. at the very least the timeline was sped up by the titans because dick was the youngest of the OG 5 and watched them all break off into their own adult selves and being the first active sidekick i think dick started thinking if they can be adults, can no longer be someone's #2... why can't i? and considering the titans were older than him, dick had several places to land or look for comfort or reassurance in his friends who seemed to have it together more than seventeen year old him. and bruce pushing him away (whole meta on that later) and dick seeing everyone else age out of their sidekick roles, led to stuff like:

and don't get me wrong, no matter the age, i think dick values very few other opinions than batman's. like titans (2016) broke apart because bruce was disappointed in dicks leadership and eventually convinced him wally & donna needed extra supervision (context: wallys heart problems & troia). also, dick rarely leaves things out of reports so im sure bruce saw that /technically speaking/ both dick (bruces son who he is not normal about) and wally died on this mission. but the titans didn't back down:

i also think the titans really respect dick's leadership, and they rarely (if ever) take well to anyone outside the titans shittalking dick grayson (sidenote -- specific titans can do it all they want because they have been a long time dg stan sufferer(TM) but outside of the team it rarely goes over well). but anyway, only dick could convince the titans to not fight this (much) and only bruce could convince dick:

so when dick stopped fighting it and agreed with the JL i feel like it was obvious bruce influenced that.

AND i think super important is that batman/most of the titans aren't super close so all they hear about each other is through dick. and dick can be emotionally intelligent, but he can also be unreasonably secretive. so every time bruce and dick fight or like, those big moments like dick's firing, or kicking dick out of the mansion after jason's death or like any of their big, shocking fights its like dick coming to the titans at his lowest. and because he places so much self worth on bruces opinion on him, i feel like that in turn might make the titans dick does run to in those moments (donna, roy, wally, etc.) resentful because he doesn't always go back into how or why they made up, when they always do.

but anyway all that to say this wouldn't be a problem if dick didn't love them both SO MUCH like:

Experience in RP: in about 2012-ish, i was into f.andomstuck and i had an oc for that until like.... 2014-ish? it was baby's first blog and i didn't really know what I was doing. I had fun, while it lasted, but i also knew some of the people in this community ( like they went to the same high school as me ) so any issue we had on tumblr would translate into lunchroom confrontations. I didn't enjoy that part so much and my interest for it fizzled out by the time i graduated. then, i jumped over to the fire emblem fandom and made an oc for fire emblem awakening! i think i stayed in that rpc until 2016/2017 and i had two ocs, a mother and her son from the future, that i still very much adore. there were ups and downs and i feel like i was taught.... multiple frustrating lessons during my tenure there. it did help me develop my writing a lot and i have to say that i'm honestly better off having taken the chance to do it.

lastly, i ended up here in 2017 and i'm not leaving. i also have another massive oc blog i'm slowly reworking but i'm trying not to stress myself out lol.

Best experiences: it's very difficult to put specific experiences into words because most of it, for me, is vibes. my best experiences have been interactions and plots with people that I not only get along with but like... you know--we understand each other. like if i decide that i'm not going to rp on tumbles for a month and maybe just stick to headcanons, i can do so without fear that you think i'm wasting your time. or that we can pick up where we left off and it's okay if you respond to the months old thread you had with me. or! we can just stay up until the wee hours of the morning talking about ideas or blorbos or getting really into a discord rps. like it's the vibes that i can come to you like a fart in the night with a gifset or image like "hey this is our muses" and, likewise, you can do the same with me.

to those of you who i vibrate at the speed of light towards at any given moment, you know who you are. thank you for being patient with me and giving me the space to vibe with you :)

Pet peeves / dealbreakers: i feel like every time i open my mouth about pet peeves i have, i sound like a crotchety old person that always has something negative to say deep down ... but w/e. it's my soap box.

i've noticed that since i've come back, it feels like i have to be the one that's chasing some people for interactions or plots more often. or like. right out the gate, they wanna jump from A to Z and be best buds and whatever so we can speedrun everything. or... i'm expected to or have to do most of the work because they're quite literally doing none of it after expressing interest. and like some of that isn't inherently bad! i'll be the first to admit that if we're friendly enough and progress something enough to where it's like... an established thing? we can have something going faster than the speed of sound after that. we can have multiple ships, a dedicated au, a whole slew of worldbuilding shit together and i won't care because i know said person on some level. and that took time + a whole slew of back and forths.

however, it doesn't feel great to express that "hey i want to plot something but it'll take time and like... if we're shipping on top of that, it'll take double that amount" and watch, in real time, as that person just... eventually leaves you on read. and/or just doesn't interact with your content anymore. and i can tell the difference between being preoccupied/ having not great week/taking a break from tumblr entirely/being slow and being put on a shelf/ barely acknowledged very clearly. i shouldn't have to feel like i'm competing for a slot or something, which is the vibes i got sometimes and ( as you would expect ) didn't like.

this isn't directed at anyone i'm currently following, ofc. i know i am not perfect but i also know that i am an extremely patient person, which is how I want to be treated. It's very frustrating to try and try and try again only to get the bare minimum from people i genuinely wanted to interact with. but c'est la vie--such is life--and i move on. i, like many others, have limited time to be on here and if something doesn't bring me joy after a month, two months, three months, I'm more than willing to part with it. there has to be effort on both ends in some way and if you want me to pat your ass, pat my ass too.

Muse preference ( fluff, angst, smut ): you cannot make me choose. now, does that mean that I write them all in equal amounts? certainly not. but it really depends on my mood. sometimes, all i wanna do is talk about soft moments. other times, i want to put my muses in a blender and watch them process what's happening to them. occasionally, i'll let them roam free and be as horny as they like. the key is to always cycle through the three so you don't get burnt out on any one of them.

Plot or memes: uuuuuhhhh it depends? plots are my fucking jam and i like having a general storyline to follow when writing and then figuring out the little details when we get to them. it's a long process but i enjoy the wait and the buildup more than i enjoy air so djsfdvdfvd--

buuuuuut i also think memes are a valueable, valueable springboard into interactions. and plotting straight outta the gate can be intimidating for some. plus, if you want to plot but your head is empty atm, finding and sending memes with the same vibe as the plot point you wanted to discuss is helpful! i'll admit that i'm not great at sending in memes but it's not for lack of wanting to. it's more not knowing what to send and picking a muse to send along with it that trips me up. Plus, not being here most of the day tends to mean i miss a lot of meme reblogs orz

Long or short replies: long replies but i do trim them shorter or rewrite portions of them. sometimes, i will write what i deem to be "too much" for a reply ( e.g: my partner has like 350 words and i'm sitting at like 625 words ) and i'll go back and edit it down to 450-500 if i find stuff that doesn't really move anything along or is just needless padding.

Best time to write: it used to be late night but i pass out too often for that to be effective anymore ( because of my sleep schedule for work ), so i tend to favor late mornings and early afternoon. if i'm writing late at night, it's because i didn't have time during the day to do so.

"blue sun" as a title has very edmonton in winter vibes, doesn't it? or maybe that's just me, but having experienced edmonton in winter i feel qualified to make that call. (also, i do not recommend experiencing edmonton in the winter.) anyway i feel like this is a fic about how connor mcdavid needs a hug.

okay so, i'm not against connor/leon — i totally see the dynamic duo appeal — but i have always had some trouble coming up with a narrative for them that i would find compelling enough to write, so i kind of challenged myself here to come up with a story that feels like something i would want to write for them. as usual, it got long! really long! sorry! i wanted to talk myself all the way through it and there was just a lot happening!

let's set this in the 2019–20 season, because a) peak season for shoehorning some matthew content in there and b) what a grim time to be connor mcdavid. his fifth season in the league and other than that one brief shining season in 2016–17, it doesn't matter how well he plays, the team has been dogshit. the oilers are a joke. they have made the playoffs one (1) time in the past 13 years even with four entire first-overall draft picks at their disposal. they have traded away almost the entire core they thought they would rebuild around in the early 2010s. their poor management has basically run multiple promising prospects out of the organization. and you are the mcjesus who is supposed to be saving them. it's year five; you've collected some trophies; you've gotten used to the prairie winters. it's not that much colder than toronto or erie, really, and you spend most of your time inside anyway. sometimes, the frigid fresh air is refreshing after hours in the artificial cold of the rink, even though it burns your throat and chaps your skin.

besides, this season is going to be different. it already is different. it's still early days, but the team it winning more than it's losing, and connor has decided: this season is different.

i feel like around this time is also when we really saw the transition from young connor to adult connor. he was such a shy, awkward, anxious kid (they named him captain at least a season too early for real) and i think this fic would explore that as well — him becoming more self-assured, or at least better at faking it; becoming more confident in his leadership skills; learning to trust his relationships with his teammates more instead of feeling like he has to do it alone — but at the same time, taking on even more of that pressure to succeed, feeling the patience of the organization and the city and the hockey world at large already starting to wear thin.

so what of the leon of it all? obviously they're good friends now, but i've always felt that the friendship was a little bit manufactured in the beginning — the oilers did not expect leon to be as good as he is, they did not expect to have a two-headed monster, but how serendipitous that they found one. only natural to stick them together as much as possible for marketing purposes. connor, though, is a soft, stubborn heart wrapped in a perfectly bland public persona; he's something of an island, and leon's closest friends on the team in the earlier years are guys he can be way more fucking normal with. so this is also a story about them coming together in private instead of just in public.

connor doesn't want to be an island. he just feels like he has to be. he has, after all, been told constantly and consistently that there is no one else quite like him. he was happier in erie, where he was half of a whole, but that relationship started crumbling as soon as he left for alberta to pursue his destiny. it was an excruciating falling apart over long distance, and the loss left a hole inside him that would still ache if it wasn't so obscured with scar tissue. anyway, he's pretty sure it was his own fault, and it's not really the being in love part he misses — being in love was as much nauseous anxiety as it was joy and comfort — it's the having a teammate so completely on his side that he could let his guard down and just be connor instead of Connor McDavid.

he likes leon. he wishes they were better friends. not that they're not friends, because they are, but connor knows he's everyone's first choice on the ice only. but, again: this season is different. they're winning again. he knows people find him much easier to like when they're winning, so maybe that can be different this season, too. it already feels different, like he and leon are clicking better as people this year, although connor can't tell if that's due to the extra effort he's making or just because they've been stuck together for years now so there's an inherent comfort level there. but it's nice. connor likes it a lot. he's afraid of liking it too much, but the more space leon allows for him, the more of leon's space he takes up. he can't seem to help himself.

(sorry to leon for sticking him in yet another scenario with an anxiety-ridden weirdo who can't seem to see that the people close to him really do just like him. from his side here, i feel like he wasn't really sure what to think of connor or how to get close to him for a while, and is equally quietly pleased about this coming-together. he knows to the rest of the world he'll always be in connor's shadow, but he also knows that every great hockey team in recent memory has had a duo at its emotional core. he thinks they could be that.)

anyway so we've got this slow burn thing happening where connor and leon are getting closer, becoming each other's confidantes, starting to really feel like they are building this thing together, and also at the same time the battle of alberta is at a fever pitch and they keep losing to the fucking flames.

off the ice connor likes matthew tkachuk just fine. they've trained together in the off-season, and he's actually an incredibly nice guy. as an opponent on the ice, though — woof, he really is annoying. leon finds him particularly irksome, and while it gets tedious listening to him go through the same laundry list of complaints every time the guy comes up, connor likes being the person leon complains to. besides, connor thinks leon is secretly having fun — he always comes out of those scrums grinning — although when connor says this, leon rolls his eyes and scoffs.

then comes the all-star game, the "i'd get off the ice" of it all, the silly little media storm around all that. connor can't tell if leon actually meant it in the moment or if he was trying to be funny, but he's selfishly a teeny bit glad it means less attention on him. they're in the same division with matthew but matthew has his own people at the game, so they don't interact much beyond exchanging pleasantries. connor chats with him a bit during the skills comp while leon huffs in the periphery, but later connor catches a glimpse of them across the ice talking for a moment without a chaperone. tkachuk is grinning, and leon is rolling his eyes, so it all seems very normal.

but then they run into him AGAIN out in the city that night, matthew with his friends, them with theirs, everyone varying levels of inebriated. matthew greets connor with a one-armed hug that catches connor off-guard, but with leon, he tugs on the front of his shirt and leans in to say, "remember, i'm gonna sauce you the sickest pass you've ever seen tomorrow, you better be ready."

leon laughs and tells him to fuck off, but as the tkachuk crew melts back into the club, leon watches him go, grinning to himself, and connor says with a sinking stomach, "you like him."

"what? i do not," leon lies.

"yeah, you do," connor says.

"eh, fuck off," leon says, but he scans the crowd again, and connor is so, so jealous. he's so jealous, and he hates that. he tries to be a good sport, but his night is pretty much ruined, and he dips out early, feeling every bit the stick-in-the-mud he got teased for being when he was younger.

the all-star game the next day goes fine. they win, which is nice. matthew does indeed set leon up for a nice goal, which leon pretends he's not grinning about for several minutes. he's not acting bothered at all about what connor said last night, and connor isn't going to bring it up again. he would rather not think about it, except for of course how he thinks about it constantly for the next few days, all the way through their first game back, which is against the flames, and is a huge tkachuk-centric shitshow that they lose in the shootout. connor is in a shitty mood about it, and leon is also in a shitty mood about it, but he tries to say something conciliatory when he drops into his stall next to connor anyway, and connor hisses back something mean and uncharitable about leon's crush, because he wants to throw a temper tantrum so bad, but he's not allowed to, because he's the captain and the savior and, as always, he is in this alone.

leon is not a person who takes kindly to people being a dick to him, so he kinda cold shoulders connor for a couple of days. then they play the fucking flames again, and it is once again a shitshow, but they finally get the win. leon gets four points and snipes at connor when no one else can hear, "you think he'll suck my dick now?"

connor, who is good at nursing his anger but bad at confrontation, totally deflates.

"sorry," he mumbles, and goes about his business. the team was great tonight, and he needs to put on a mood that reflects that. he does an okay job of it, he thinks — the mood in the room helps, and the fact that leon doesn't feel quite so icy next to him helps, but he's still got this awful hollow feeling in the pit of his stomach that he's never going to get what he wants. but he knows that's not true, because he's spent his whole life deciding what he wants and taking it. so maybe he'll decide what he wants and take it.

he and leon walk out to their cars together, and when they get there, he opens the door to his backseat and nods for leon to get in. leon gives him a puzzled look; connor says, "well someone should suck your dick."

so they do that. it doesn't leave connor feeling exactly how he wants to feel, but it's satisfying in its own way.

he goes home and spends the whole night wondering if he just made everything worse or if things are going to be unbearably awkward now, but leon shows up the next morning with coffee and breakfast sandwiches like, we should talk, so they do talk, about a lot of things — about how this season feels different, feels good; about the winning tradition they want to build here, where they've already put in so much work; about what they need to be to each other to make that happen. connor apologizes for kind of jumping leon in the parking lot, and leon laughs and says don't apologize, it was fun. they talk around the question of being together or commitment to each other, couching everything in terms of being in edmonton, commitment to the team, but leon squeezes connor's hand when he says these things, and connor is filled with nauseous anxiety and dangerous hope.

and i feel like that would be like 50k worth of fic. it would end there and everyone would be very mad at me, and then 2–3 business years later i would drop a sequel titled "pink moon" where they actually get together during the 2022–23 season. i'm so sorry about me.

So first of all, I did not know you had a tumblr??? Second It Will Not Obey You SLAPS. And third my question: How in god's name did you do so much research for your fic??? What is your secret. How do you go about organizing or even knowing where to start for that matter. I struggle with research cause I never know where to start or stop and often I'm really uncertain if the info I'm gathering is even needed or if it's extraneous. I am both stupid and a perfectionist HELP ME

Hi Anon, thank you so much! I always appreciate viewer support and I hope you're enjoying all the art on this blog that isn't in the fic. In any case, I don't know if this method will work for you, or if it's how other authors do research, but here's my process. It's pretty long, so I'll put it under a cut for you:

First, I start with a story. When I say story, I don't really mean a beginning-middle-end, this happens and then that happens; it's a little more vague than that. For me, a story is more like a feeling, some truth or impulse, and all the writing or plot structure or everything else is built around it. I don't generally bother with things like plot structures (which I think should be descriptive and not prescriptive anyway), and I do make outlines, but you'd be surprised by how barren they are. Here's the original from 2016, with some spoilers blacked out:

Something that comes about from approaching the story as a single entity is that oftentimes, things just fall into place. A big fight taking place in the congo where most of the cryptids from the Kur flash-forwards get called up, or the gang getting shot down over the Amazon like in the first two episodes of the show - little coincidences like this happen all the time. I think it's because, while writing, my brain starts making connections that I'm not consciously aware of - I often go by what "feels correct," and I've rewritten whole chapters multiple times before to chase that feeling of "correct."

How that ties into research is twofold: first, I'm a naturally curious person, and I'm constantly reading about stuff like mythology or ancient history or science etc. on my own. I like to have an approximate knowledge of many things - that way, there's more for my brain to make connections to. For example, I already knew about the chinese five-element system (wuxing), and remembered mystic hotspots from the show, and Excalibur, and video games, so when I decided on a plot device to keep Zak and Francis together during the main story, it was fairly easy to land on the idea of a quest to power up a special weapon only Francis can wield by hitting up mystical hotspots, each one themed after one of the wuxing.

The second part of the process is this: I have the general vibe or concept of the story in my head, and now I've settled on something concrete plot-wise - the magic weapon wuxing powerup quest. That makes it really easy to start researching specific details. I know I need a magic weapon, and I know this magic weapon has to be tied to Sumerian mythology, so I start digging around in Sumerian mythology for magic weapons, and find Sharur, the talking mace wielded by the Sumerian god Ninurta. Then I do some more research into the wuxing and see that each element is attached to a color, so those are the colors Sharur changes into. Now, a big part of the original show was its globetrotting nature, so obviously, I need to make each of these hotspots a different part of the globe. (And incidentally, "mythic hotspot" doesn't really roll off the tongue, so I rooted around myths for power spots etc. and found the Quechuan word "huaca," which has a meaning very similar to what I'm trying to make each huaca out to be).

So I scatter the huacas out so they're all roughly equidistant to each other, and none are too similar in geography or concept, and we go back to existing connections: I want to have one in China, because 1) I'm Chinese, 2) there's plot reasons (Sharur uses the wuxing because it was enchanted by a Chinese guy), 3) China has a long history comparable to India, the latter of which already featured extensively in the show. So I root around for the "secret science" parts of Chinese history and stumble across this semi-mythical Xia dynasty with its emperor who may or may not exist. That feels very Secret Saturdays to me, so Yu the Great and his tomb are now the second huaca. Now, we know so little about Yu the Great that there's not too much to draw from for how his tomb looks, but I already know about the tomb of Qin Shi Huang - his tomb's excavation was put on pause because ancient records spoke of him having a scale mercury replica of China complete with flowing mercury rivers, and while these claims were initially considered massive exaggerations if not outright lies, they DID find a TON of mercury in the tomb, making them go "unless..."

Mercury obviously fits right in with this huaca being "metal"-themed, so it's a perfect reference. The idea of a scale replica of China was blown up into the idea of a magically-powered VR simulation of ancient China. Now I need a cryptid for this arc, and hey, howdy, turns out Yu the Great has a serpent-slaying myth, Xiangliu! And what's this? Xiangliu's blood was so virulently poisonous that after it was slain, when the floodwaters came, the land became barren! There is such a strong pro-environement and pro-taking care of animals even when they seem monstrous vibe in TSS that if this story is seen through the lens of TSS, it looks a lot like a cautionary tale for why you don't just murder rampaging animals - they're natural parts of their natural environments, and there are repercussions for messing too much with the food chain.

And hey, doesn't that sound like a lesson Francis should learn? The last huaca, we got as far as Francis going from "I don't want to be here" to "I guess I'm stuck here." This huaca, we need to highlight how different he and Zak are, and how shortsighted - and human - Francis's ideals are, where he repeats Yu the Great's mistake, and humanity's mistakes as a whole.

Again, a lot of these connections aren't necessarily being made consciously. In the moment, they just sort of "feel right," which I know is unhelpful, but I can't really explain it any other way.

For an arc that had more secondary research than already knowing things ahead of time, the arc in the Congo took the longest to write (there was a two-year hiatus between it and the previous arc), in large part because I had so little to go off of. Myths from the Congo area are fairly sparse on the ground (for many reasons), and the ones I did find didn't really feel very TSS or IWNOY. I knew that this was the arc where everything went to shit - that we'd been building to that for a while - but I didn't have in my notes exactly how things went to shit, or even what the huaca was going to be. I knew it would be wood-themed, but this being the Congo Rainforest, pretty much anything I did would count. I knew I wanted to do something with the origin of humanity and/or the lemurians, because Africa was where humans first evolved.

So, actually, I wound up doing research into pretty much everything - all the cryptids from the area, all the myths from the area I could find. Previously, in my research on lemurians when working out what their Deal would be, I found out that a lot of writings on lemurians came from occultists in the 1900s, who also had many (racist and misogynistic) writings about where THEY think the first humans come from, about mystical ancient societies that were hyper advanced, etc. etc., which fit with the way that the lemurians seemed to have a veritable magical paradise in Shangri-La before the nagas massacred them. I could at least use the names from these hippies, because I couldn't find comparable mythology from the actual area, but I stripped out the... less savory parts.

I wanted to use the eloko/biloko when I found them, because their myths give them magic bells that compel people who hear it to do what they want - much like how the lemurian's charisma was set up (this being one of those interesting little coincidences that happen when the story "feels right.") Doubly so when I found out that eloko/biloko sleep in trees, which - wood-themed huaca. But I still wasn't really... piecing anything together.

So I switched tracks and started looking into Gilgamesh, the man, the myth, the legend, at the center of this all. Read the Epic of Gilgamesh (or, re-read, rather), and found the myth regarding Utnapishtim and Gilgamesh's quest for eternal life. An old man gifted by immortality from the gods? Given that I already had in my notes that the lemurians struck a deal with the devil with Kur and became what they are, and the eloko/biloko were a failure as a result of the lemurians going "wait, not like this" halfway through, Utnapishtim sounded like he could fit in as a lemurian from this original hullabaloo. And in the original Gilgamesh myth, the plant Utnapishtim points Gilgamesh to, which would grant him all his youth and vitality back, gets stolen from him by a serpent. Hey, nagas!

Okay, so now I had the origin of the lemurians, Utnapishtim's character being involved, even a hook for the nagas, and thus Argost, but it still wasn't coming together. SO...

... I gave up and started looking at biblical stuff. I'm a sellout hack. BUT, at least you can argue that biblical stuff is always potentially relevant, because the Saturday line has biblical names (Zakariya/Zechariah, Solomon, Elijah, Samuel) and Zak is set up with a minor Jesus reference (sacrifices himself for the good of mankind, is dead for 3 (minutes) and is resurrected). Specifically, I started looking into the "secret science" part of biblical stuff - apocrypha, or non-canonical texts. There's tons of interesting stuff in there, but it turned out to be mostly useless, aside from the chapter titles, but it did help to form this idea of making deals and regretting them - and I'm realizing now as I'm writing this that this was another one of those unconscious connections - ch12 is literally named after the part in Goethe's Faust where Faust makes his deal with Mephistopheles ("Die Wette biet ich" - "the bet I offer").

So now that I'd been freed to do biblical stuff (which, hey, also fits in with the wood theme, because Garden of Eden, get it?), I had access to the imagery of the snake tempting eve with fruit. And suddenly, everything started to come together. Themes of trying to defy what you are by nature, the nagas as betrayers, Kur and its entourage as demons, getting what you wished for but at what cost, a fall into darkness as the major players fail to defy their natures (and the consequences that result) - once I started, I couldn't stop.

So it's a bit hard to answer your question because it's all so intuitive, but I guess if I really had to say, the real answer to where to start and where to end is to just pick a topic you like so much that you wouldn't mind doing tons of research on it, even if most of it winds up being unusable. I LOVE ancient history and mythology, so even if nothing I read is useful, I don't mind reading. And not minding the reading means I have so much already floating around in my head for when I need to write something new. If you forced me to write, say, a crime drama or sci-fi story - two fields I have much less interest and much less knowledge on - I would also be pretty lost! At that point, I'd have two options - either I write something by the numbers just to get it done, or I do enough reading on the topic that I find something about it to love and care about, and then write based on that.

I think more is always better. Anything you don't immediately use becomes a potential connection for something else down the line. I'd say a good 30% of weird little factoids featured in IWNOY are things I knew before I did research for it, and now, for other projects I'm doing, the stuff I learned for IWNOY sometimes becomes relevant.

And I would always try not to worry too much about overstuffing or making your first draft bad. The secret is, most of the actually good writing happens in the editing. Your first draft exists for the purpose of existing. It's fine if it's riddled with holes, if the dialogue sucks, if there's way too much exposition and "essay-style writing" (what I like to call it when you randomly infodump all the research you've done - I've done this sooooo many times), or if it's so bad you have to delete the whole thing and start over (this is a regular part of my writing process!). The point of draft 1 is to throw the damn spaghetti against the damn wall. Edits and revisions are where you tastefully arrange it so that it's good and an art piece, haha.
