Chapter 8: Master Plan

Surgeons always have a plan, that’s what Y/N picked up from her mother over the years. They knew what scalpel they needed, where to cut or clamp down. But even with their carefully crafted plans, there are unexpected things bound to arise that we don’t originally consider.

“Stop moving.”

Because that was not a part of her plan. So she began to formulate a new one:

a) Surely if she were to scream now, it would alert professor McGonagall. She would come rushing to help and free her.

b) But if she stepped on the person's shoe while screaming, it would distract them just long enough for her to have a head start. The pain would be so sudden that they would drop their arms and she could run. If she focused hard enough too, she could channel magic around her. Besides, if all else fails, McGonagall would still be there.

Option b) sounded like a great plan.

Now that her attacker's hand was drawn back, Y/N opened her mouth until she promptly shut it again. In the dark, she vaguely makes out a tall figure coming into view, a familiar mop of fawn-like hair appearing from behind her.

It was Remus.

With his presence, her body instantly relaxes. Her shoulders slump as tension and fear slowly dissolve. Remus tosses her a glance, shooting a gentle smile before his face darkens as he nods. He brings a finger to his lips, warning them to not interrupt.

To her delight, Y/N feels the person’s grip loosen even more, however, their arms were still caged and secured snuggly. Her heart slowed, becoming calmer as her brain moved from the idea of self-defence to confusion.

McGonagall finally enters the main corridor. From where they stood, her back faced them as she peered around the darkness, gripping the base of her candelabra. It glowed brightly, lighting up the surrounding area.

This was the only time Y/N had seen her professor after official school hours. Her outfit was mismatched; a soft pyjama set, with her school robes and heels on. She swore she had a sleeping mask hanging around her neck. Had pure adrenaline not been coursing through her veins, she would have snorted.

Remus uses this to his advantage as he shuffles his way towards McGonagall. He brushes off the non-existent dust from his suit before he reaches into his pocket, placing a shiny pin on the breast pocket. He then coughs, gaining her attention.

Startled, McGonagall wheeled her head, “Mr. Lupin! What are you doing here?”

He puts his hands in the pocket of his suit cooly. “Good evening professor. I’m doing my rounds. I actually just came from Slughorn's party a while ago.” He says, gesturing to his unusual patrol outfit.

McGonagall remains silent, choosing to take in his appearance. Y/N can almost see the confusion written on her face. She peers sternly over her glasses to look at Remus. If he was nervous, he hid it well because his expression managed to stay unchanged and there was no trace of a lie. Her eyes scan him one last time before speaking, “You’re not supposed to be on rounds tonight.”

“I switched places last minute with another prefect. They weren’t feeling well.” Remus quickly adds on, “— you might know them? Calwald; sixth year Slytherin.”

“Ah, yes… I heard footsteps coming from here. Did you see anyone?”

Remus looks like he’s thinking quickly. “Yeah, just a first year Slytherin. I escorted them to their common room.”

Professor McGonagall’s unnerving gaze even made Y/N shudder. She tuts, her head drops in a small nod. She stands tall, “Very well then, goodnight Remus.”

“Goodnight, Professor.”

The soft clicks of her heels started up again. McGonagall heads in the opposite direction of the Slytherin common room while Remus pretends to walk away before pressing himself against a wall, camouflaging with the shadows in case their teacher were to look back. The echoing became quieter until only a soft, almost inaudible clicking came from the distance. The glow from her candles was gone and darkness surrounded them again.

Y/N was made acutely aware of the other person’s hold around her waist once it slackens, pulling away from her. The heavy fabric is dragged off her body before she turns over to her attacker.

“Sirius?”

She jerks away as far as she could, angrily. Her fingers twitched momentarily.

“You almost ruined it,” he spits out cold and aggressively. His bluish-grey eyes stormed, ripples of angry waves rolling from them. From the proximity, she swore she could feel the venom dripping from him as she released a breath she didn’t know she was holding. "And you bit me!"

She should have bitten harder.

She hisses back, “Shut it! How was I supposed to know that you were sneaking around?”

“Pads!” James growls, yanking at Sirius’ shoulder, “Fucking leave her alone. You’ve done enough today.”

“You gits!” Remus scolds, making his way back to the secret passage. He remained calm, directing his next sentences to the boys. “It was a mistake, okay? Calm the fuck down or you two will get us caught.”

Sirius huffs out, childishly. “Whatever you say Moomy.”

“Ha. Ha.”

“What’s going on?” Y/N askes.

At this, Sirius calms down a bit before he looks at Y/N again, a strange expression settles on his face. James on the other hand is ecstatic, “Right! We’re setting up the last part of the plan right now. The itching spray!”

Oh!"

“Yeah. Wormy is already inside the Slytherin common room making sure the spiders and Dungbombs we put in there are working.”

“Did you say he’s inside their common room?”

At this, his smile grows, “Got their password by waiting outside their door and Polyjuice potion. Our dear Moony brewed it.” Remus’ face is smug, his chest puffed out.

“Holy shit! I didn’t know you took it this seriously. Couldn't you be expelled for this?!”

"Godric, maybe Remus needs to give you his prefect title."

“I’ll gladly give it to you — fuckin’ hate being one.” Remus jokes, “Nah, we’ll be fine as long as we don’t get caught.”

“We’ve got our goody-two-shoes over here. Everyone loves him, won’t suspect a thing.” James says. Her eyes are back on Remus, sweeping from his face then down to his shiny prefect badge.

“I’m their scapegoat.”

Sirius sighs impatiently before cutting in, “Alright, I’m sure you can go now. McGonagall is long gone.”

Everyone shoots him a look.

“Oi! No! Please join us!” James whines, “You’re already here and trust me it’ll be so fun!”

“He’s right, join us,” Remus says, “Besides, you suggested it and it’ll be safer and easier to cover our tracks.”

It sounded exciting and she did need a pick-me-up considering her wavering emotions lately. Although Sirius’ jaw clenched. He was scowling at her.

“I’d love to join you,” she says, looking Sirius in the eyes.

A silent whooping came from James who balled his fist, throwing them into the air in celebration. They huddled together just as Remus led them out of the passage and through the dark.

James, who shared qualities of a golden retriever, walked by her side, a pep in his step. "You get to see the action first-hand, excited?"

“Of course!”

James rambles on before his eyes gloss over. He’s unusually quiet. Simultaneously, he grabs her hand and stops abruptly, dragging her to the back of the group. He lends in to whisper, his eyes flicking momentarily to Sirius, “Why were you with him?”

“Who?” She whispers back.

“Regulus Black.”

“Oh, we were at the Slug Cl —” She cuts herself off as she realizes, her eyes widened before staring at him, “You were following me!?”

“No! No!” He says, bringing his hands up defensively, waving them around. "You were walking in the same direction as him! To the Slytherin common room! It wasn't on purpose!"

“I — how did you — I didn’t even see you!” She thought back to the crinkling noise, “Wait, we heard you!”

He sighs a bit as he pulls out a large fluid-like, shimmery, silvery cloak. Upclose, silver threads were woven onto it, patterns swirling into regal shapes. He handed her the cloak to feel. It was silky smooth and glittered prettily in the light. It looked similar to the reflection of stars in a lake at night.

“You’re not telling me this is a…” she gaped.

The boy was grinning from ear to ear as if it were sewn on his face permanently. In a way, it looked rather demonic. He looked as if his face were going to split into two. “You betcha! An invisibility cloak.”

Her mind finally caught up to her once again before thinking back to what James asked. “Why’d you want to know about Regulus?”

“Huh! E-erm… no reason.”

She punches him softly in the arm. “You lying bastard! You can’t be nosey and not tell me? He’s not… bad? Is he? I quite like him.”

“No he’s not… just —” James cuts himself off, fearing he might have said too much. He did not expect the conversation to turn in this direction. He quickly averts her attention to another topic. “The Slug Club?” He says loud enough so the entire group can hear, “How was it?”

She would make sure to push him on the topic later.

Meanwhile, Remus and Y/N groaned.

“Awful.”

“Dreadful.”

“Nosey git.”

“Happily annoying.”

“He must be an actual slug. He’s slimy and boring.”

“Merlin! It can’t be that bad!”

“Oh trust us,” Remus addresses, “It’s worse. The entire time he went on and on about stupid shit. Like what was it he said?” He looks at Y/N.

“Ugh, what?”

“When he went on about that kid— what was his name… Seán?”

“Ah! Wait,” she straightened up and mocked their professor. She fake coughs for dramatic effect. “Your aunt created the Capmisted potion! Ah yes, brilliant, brilliant! I wish I taught her when she was at Hogwarts. Say, you’re still close, right? Why don’t we invite her to come to one of these parties one day?”

Her painful attempt at a British accent made them laugh.

“What a fucking sleazy bloke,” Remus chokes out.

They continued to make their way down to the Slytherin common room. All four jumped at the sound of footsteps before Y/N felt the invisibility cloak being tossed over her body, along with the rest of the boys too. They waited until it passed before finally stopping at the dungeons.

The entrance to the common room was by a stretch of stone. The area was dimly lit, the ceiling was low and had an eerie look and feel to it. Plus the cold only made Y/N rub her hands up and down her arms, goosebumps left in their trail. A dripping sound encompassed them like a makeshift metronome.

It made her feel uneasy.

Peter, who was crouched and small, hid in the shadows and would’ve gone unseen had he not popped out and scared all of them.

“For fucks sake Wormtail! We thought you were a Slytherin earlier.”

Peter was gleeful. He donned a large smirk and his face was slightly red. The Polyjuice was almost completely worn off, however, Peter had a full head of black, thick hair. “I checked everything, the traps should be set to release at eight o’clock.”

“An hour long?”

“Needs time to travel around the room.”

“Positive?”

“Positive.”

“Now comes the fun part,” James nudges her.

“Oh, hi Y/N,” Peter says slightly confused.

“Hey, Pete, here to watch if you don’t mind.”

Peter takes a moment to look at the rest of the group, “More the merrier!”

“Alright, you geezas! Let's get this party started!” James announces. He digs through the side bag he was carrying, pulling out four pairs of dragonhide gloves and tosses them to the boys. “Sorry, haven’t got any for ya. Would’ve brought an extra if I knew you were comin’.”

“It's alright.”

“Okay,” Remus says before crouching down, a large bag on his side. “I’ll start attaching everything, you know what to do and be careful. Remember, do not touch your eyes.”

He looks up at her, “Y/N if you could, it would be helpful to be on the watch out.”

“Gladly.”

Remus unscrewed bottle after bottle, attaching nozzles on them while James helped him. Peter slid out a ladder that was concealed by magic in a slim nook. As he scaled it, Sirius held on tightly to it before he cast a charm to prevent it from sliding around.

Up high, concealed by darkness and magic, revealed hundreds of identical bottles before Remus sprang up, switching places with Peter as he attached the rest of the bottles onto a huge system.

It looked similar to a new-maj mechanical system. The components consisted of small wires, a timer, tape and string connected to them all, along with a small lever that was attached to the underside of a brick. With the aid of magic, they were all securely set into place and ready to be activated.

“What is that?” She turned to Peter.

“Moonys got the bottles up there programmed to spray every time certain people leave the common room. See, look,” he points to the almost non-existent glow on the wires.

She marvelled at their creation. It was large and must’ve spent hours trying to conduct it. Sirius and James were helping Remus by passing him the bottles and securing them to the top of the roof.

If only Lily was here to see this. She would have an aneurysm.

At one point, Peter had been passing the bottles up to Remus while Sirius and James fiddled around with extra dungbombs they had, scattering them around.

“Jeez, Moons, my arms feel like they’re on fire.”

Peter did look worn out before he panted out. His forehead was starting to glean from sweat.

“Why don’t I do it for now?” She says to him before looking up to Remus.

“Only if you want to.”

The two switched places and Peter handed her his gloves. She slipped them on before enchanting them to fit snugly around her hands. Bending down, she picked up a few bottles. They were unexpectedly very heavy. She understood why Peter had to take a break. Although Remus seemed to be fine. Compared to his slim look, Remus had an unusual amount of strength that surprised her.

They worked in phases. Every ten or so minutes, Peter and Y/N would switch positions. They all worked in silence. From time to time, Peter and her would crack a joke, causing Remus to overhear and chuckle himself.

Everyone was having a good time. Even Sirius perked up, being less hostile to the entire group and even her. She thought she was dreaming for a split second.

The group worked quickly and managed to attach all of the bottles along with Dungbombs with only a few interruptions from incoming students. Luckily, they had the cloak to cover themselves and their things.

By the time they were finished, it was past one in the morning. They all huddled together underneath the cloak. Unfortunately, it was only medium-sized and unable to fully cover everyone from sight. Sirius and Y/N, who were on the edge on opposite sides, their arms and legs would poke out. More than once, it became very uncomfortable and hard to squish everyone inside as they flattened themselves against a wall anytime they heard even the slightest of movements. They kept impossibly silent, aside from James who’d been elated; constantly making small jokes or making sound effects with his mouth. Remus had to flick him a few times to keep quiet.

As soon as they reached the Gryffindor tower, they removed the cloak.

“Gastropod!” Cheered Peter to the fat lady. She swung open for the five of them. The warmth of the fireplace crackled as they threw themselves on the sofas. They all tried to catch their breaths and still their pounding heartbeats.

Pure adrenaline pumped through her veins as she took a moment to take in what just happened.

James was grinning from ear to ear, Peter seemed cheerful, Sirius became somewhat tolerable, while Remus, as always, seemed tired.

Remus, covering his mouth in a half yawn muttered out, “It was fun having you here but I’m knackered. I’ll see you lot at breakfast. Night.”

“Me too,” Peter said. Sirius got up to followed them as they made their way up to the boy’s dorms.

James stayed with Y/N for a bit afterwards. Both were giddy and they even ate a few snacks she still had in her pockets.

“Wasn’t that fun!” he said, “Godric, you need to join more often.”

“I’ll think about it,” Y/N says playfully.

“I’m going to train you — gonna make you into a mini-me. My apprentice.”

“I think the world has enough of your arrogance.”

He laughed unbothered by the remark, “This is only the beginning. Just you wait.”

Reunited: Chapter 2

Druella and Cygnus Black sat in the drawing room of 12 Grimmauld place conversing about a letter they had just received from Hogwarts, Bellatrix seemed off to all her sisters, the older sister who was always ready to go off and play with her younger ones seemed anxious and scared. Bellatrix sat on the floor braiding Aurora's long silky raven locks, while Andromeda put Narcissa's blonde locks into a half up and half down hairdo, the girls stopped when seeing Kreacher pop up in front of them.

" Mistress and Master requested Ms Bellatrix in the drawing room," Kreacher said to the four sisters, all glanced up at Bellatrix who seemed to visibly pale her soft hands began to shake as she stood up from the hard floor heading down to her parents as requested, without glancing back at her sisters who all had worried expressions.

Bellatrix made her way into the study noticing the angry looks that had been sent her way, she stood in front of her parents not daring to meet their eyes afraid of letting her tears stream down. Little did they know the three younger sisters stood beside the doorway hiding from sight, Andromeda kept her hands over the twin's mouth preventing them from letting out any sound, they all had a perfect view of the three who stood in the drawing room.

" Bellatrix Black, you have embarrassed me and your mother, Professor Slughorn has informed us that you constantly are distracted by your peers and from what your Professor wrote it appears that you like to talk back, Druella look it here we have raised a disrespectful disappointment!" Cygnus yelled pointing his wand at the 13 year old girl, Druella eyes held no pity for her child, she had warned them long ago that bad decisions will lead to consequence's. Bellatrix kept her head down unwillingly letting the hot stream of tears fall to her cheeks.

" She's crying Druella, she's crying," Cygnus taunted with his wand pointed towards his daughter, Druella scoffed at the little girl putting her hands on her hips while shaking her head in disapproval.

" If she wants to cry, give her something to cry about," Druella simply stated, with her words encouraged Cygnus to send the cruciatus curse towards his daughter.

Aurora managed to slip out of Andromeda's tight grip the four year old girl ran in front of her sister blocking the curse from Bellatrix instead it hitting her, Bellatrix looked in shock as she saw her little sister take the pain, Druellas eyes widened but she didn't stop Cygnus who was now stuck on the four year old who protectively hugged her sister while letting out loud screams. Aurora blocked Bellatrix with her body not letting any inch of the curse get to her sister, Auroras grip tightened on Bellatrix as she screamed from the top of her lungs wanting it all to stop.

The pain stopped and the sound of footsteps left the room, the two sisters laid on the floor one was whimpering in pain while the other was too shocked to comprehend what happened, and from that day on Aurora Black promised herself that none of her sisters would feel such pain they would never feel any pain because she promised she would always be there to protect them.

A few minutes later Andromeda rushed into the room grabbing the still crying little girl, Narcissa followed behind with red puffy eyes while the three sisters made their way back to the second eldest bedroom.

" Deep breaths Ara," Andromeda told her baby sister while cuddling the girl on the bed, Narcissa hugged Aurora's legs letting out silent cries, the four year old blonde replayed the image of her twin screaming in pain she couldn't get it to leave even if she closed her eyes, all she could do was stay silent and cry along with her.

" A- A-ndy, i-s B-e-e-lla okay?" Aurora stuttered through cries looking back at Andromeda who gave the girl a sad smile pulling her small body closer to hers.

" She's okay Ara thanks to you, that was very brave what you did back there," Andromeda whispered tucking back a black strand of hair behind her sister's ear.

" We should check on her, I want to make sure," Aurora mumbled but Andromeda only shook her head no in response, the small girl huffed giving her older sister puppy eyes with a pout which Andromeda only raised a brow at.

" Only if you rest first," Andromeda told her younger sister which the youngest responded with an annoyed look.

Three years later:

The Black cousins sat in the field teasing each other, Aurora rested her head on Sirius's stomach while they laid on the grass, Regulus placed his head on Aurora's hip while she played with his raven hair which they both had in common, Narcissa sat crisscross while Andromeda braided her blonde hair, and Bellatrix laid with closed eyes beside her cousin Sirius.

" Cissy fancies Lucius Malfoy," Sirius exposed earning the ugly laugh from his cousin Aurora, Bellatrix smiled at his words finding amusement at the fact.

" I do not!" Narcissa yelled turning into a bright shade of crimson, this only made matters worse making the young Blacks laugh at the blonde's reaction.

" At least I don't fancy the Nott family!" Narcissa turned to her twin laughing at the girl who looked at her in disbelief.

" The Nott family, as in the entire family?!" Bellatrix turned to Narcissa for confirmation which the blonde nodded in response making the whole group roar in laughter except her twin who playfully rolled her eyes.

" What can I say the Nott men are the most charming purebloods ever, you'd be crazy not to fancy none of them," Aurora stated shrugging her shoulders, Sirius faked a hurt expression along with Regulus who furrowed his brows at his cousin.

" Do we not exist to you?" Sirius gasped holding onto his heart with hurt on his face, Andromeda laughed at her cousin dramatics while Aurora looked the boy up and down.

" Oh shut it, you arrogant fool," Aurora chuckled swatting his hand away from his chest.

" Aurora Cassiopeia and Sirius Orion Black, get in here both of you!" screamed Walburga from the window alongside Druella who had an annoyed look on her face.

" Oh Merlin, what did you two do now?!" Narcissa groaned watching her sister and cousin dust themselves off, both had scared yet amused faces while they looked at Narcissa.

" We may have put timed dung bombs in mums study," Sirius explained with a proud smile, Aurora stood beside the boy showing off a toothy girn in accomplishment.

" You too have a death wish don't you?" Andromeda rolled her eyes at the two, the two cousins glanced at each other smiling proudly.

" At least well die together," they said in unison before running inside trying to suppress a laugh.

The minute Sirius and Aurora stepped foot into the study they were hit with the cruciatus curse, Druella had enough of her Auroras behaviour, so unlike Walburga, she held the curse longer than originally expected which put a worried look on Walburga who tried to talk Druella in lifting the curse.

" That's enough, she'll go insane we Blacks don't need the publicity," Walburga shot her friend a warning look, Druella still hadn't lifted the curse leaving her daughter to lay limp staying silent as the curse hit her.

The group of cousins walked into the manor deciding to retrieve Aurora and Sirius, it wasn't uncommon for the two to get punished so it became a routine that the others tended to them once their parents left the room. Bellatrix, Narcissa, Andromeda, and Regulus stepped into the study assuming the pair they looked for was alone, all you could hear from the outside of the black door was the sound of stifled cries.

The four opened the door finding Druella pointing her wand at Aurora who laid pale on the floor, Sirius laid beside the girl trying to recover from the pain he went through, and Walburga had a sorry expression as she would glance down at the young girl who showed no sign of life.

Narcissa gasped quickly running to her sister's aid, red light still emitted from her mother's wand indicating that pain was still going on. Out of instinct the blonde shield her sister's body with her own, with all her strength she managed to check Aurora's pulse, a wash of relief hit the blonde but it didn't stop her from screaming in pain.

Druella finally dropped the hold of the curse looking at both daughters in disgust, she left the room quietly not glancing at the children who stared at her as if she were crazed, the blonde was followed behind Walburga who couldn't process the events, seeing her niece lay on the floor what looked to be lifeless set an uneasy feeling at the pit of her stomach she didn't like one bit.

" Is she alive?" Sirius cried running up to his cousin along with the other three who stood by the doorway.

" I could feel her pulse, yes," Andromeda replied to Sirius staring into her sister's green eyes, those green eyes which were filled with joy now held nothing and Andromeda couldn't help but think the worse.

" Is she still Ara?" Regulus thought out loud saying what each had in their mind, they stayed silent not knowing how to reply to such a question, there was no sign of the Aurora they loved, just a small pale body covered in a cold sweat.

" Andy help me lift her," Bellatrix told Andromeda stifling a cry, Bellatrix felt the need to be strong and not show her emotions, she was afraid that if she showed how she truly felt that it would only worry the younger ones, and that was the last thing she wanted.

The two older girls carried their seven year old sister up to her room placing the girl in the middle of her bed, all the cousins gathered around the girl all laying closely to Aurora who hadn't shown any sign that she was truly okay. After hours and hours, the cousins all fell asleep around the black haired girl who only stared up at the ceiling which was bewitched to show the constellations.

" Ara?" Narcissa whispered looking up at her sister who hadn't said a word, Narcissa took her sister's hand holding it tightly crying as she did so.

" You have to say something Ara, please," Narcissa quietly said to Aurora who only finally turned her gaze to the blonde in front of her.

" Your so strong Ara, so strong so please say something, if you don't mum and dad will send you away, and that can't happen Ara, I need you, so say something, do something Ara give me a sign that your still you," Narcissa pleaded to her sister she made sure to speak lowly not wanting to wake the others, her red eyes meet the cold ones of her sister who looked at her as if she were a stranger.

" I can't get through life without you Ara, so please I'm begging you to say something do something, I wouldn't know how to live without you by my side and if you don't do something now, I'm going to have to find out, for me Ara please," Narcissa quietly sobbed, Aurora was Narcissa's everything that girl lived for her sister and the thought of losing her panicked the long haired blonde.

" Cissy, you're an idiot," Aurora muttered quietly weakly tightening her sisters grip, Narcissa smiled at her sister throwing herself on her twin bringing her into a bone crushing hug.

" Out of all things, that's what you choose to say?" Narcissa playfully glared at her sister holding onto Aurora as if her life depended.

" Because you are, why would you block the curse?!" Aurora angrily whispered back to her sister, Narcissa rolled her eyes at the girl annoyed that it was even a question.

" You should have seen yourself, and I'll do it again, so don't even try and argue with me about being an idiot Aurora Cassiopeia Black, because you win the idiot department, not me!" Narcissa loudly whispered waking up Sirius who laid beside the blonde.

" What's going on?" Sirius groggily let out rubbing his eyes facing the twins who glared at one another, the twins ignored his question continuing with their argument.

" Don't get yourself hurt again Cissy, I don't like it," Aurora mumbled to her sister who softened her expression shaking her head.

" And I don't like when you get hurt," Narcissa replied leaning into her sisters embrace.

" I want in on this love," Sirius let out wrapping his arms around the two sisters who laughed at the boy.

Okay so in terms of what’s on my AO3, I have Check Please, All For the Game, Sharp Zero, HP, and Miraculous Ladybug. I also have The Forbidden LOTR and PJO Fanfiction (as in, I’ve written it, but it’s never seeing the light of day)

(technically there is a PJO fic out there that has seen the light of day but I orphaned it because I was tired of getting comments asking about when it would be updated)

I do! It’s actually a very recent thing that I’ve started not responding to literally every single comment. Mainly I respond because I love talking about my writing so I am going to seize that opportunity when it comes up

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Oh, DEFINITELY Happy Birthday (HP). Check out that MCD tag ahah. (I say HP but what I really mean is that I write fic about Regulus Black. The Regulus Black-centric tag is my home in the HP fandom)

fun fact: this is a very short fic that I wrote when I was 15 and basically forgot about until recently, and then I reread it recently and went holy shit?? I pulled NO punches????

7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the wildest one you’ve written?

Not a ton? I think a lot of the fandoms I write for don’t really mesh that well. That being said, the aforementioned orphaned PJO fic is actually a PJO/ML crossover, so there’s that

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Nope! Sometimes I get comments that are just.... really confusing? And a more common thing is that in my AFTG fic I’ll get comments from people who are so focused on Andreil (or the most common ships in general) to the point that like. they miss the point of what I actually wrote. Those are annoying but they’re not hate, they’re very enthusiastic, they’re just... enthusiastic about a story I’m not writing? So it’s a bit frustrating.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No sjflskgjhgf I struggle enough to write kissing, I think if I ever tried to write smut my brain would just shut down. I’ve managed some fade-to-blacks (which are mostly in WIPs that haven’t been posted) but they rely HEAVILY on the powers of implication

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, although I have occasionally made a brief go of it, not to post, more as an exercise for myself in a language that I’m learning. Anyway I never finish them so I’m gonna say no

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not really? I’ve definitely group brainstormed fics and then written them (the best example of this being Q&A (AFTG), which was the product of a truly off-the-walls group chat), but I tend to do all the actual writing myself. I think the way I write would drive a co-writer up the wall since it’s very disorganized and I don’t write stuff down because ~I know what’s gonna happen I don’t need notes~ and it would infuriate me if I was co-writing with me lmao, so I won’t inflict that on someone else

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I regularly move through ships I’m SUPER focused on, like it’s kind of a rotation. I will forever and always ship Percabeth though.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Okay so if you follow me at @birlwrites you may know this already, but i have this ‘warmups’ document that is just like, random ideas i get that i don’t necessarily want to finish but i just want to try out for a bit? and i have a rule that once a ‘warmup’ is more than 10 pages long (so 11+) then it has to be moved to its own document, just to make scrolling through the warmups doc easier. but usually, a warmup only passes 10 pages when i’m INTO it. so i have a bazillion wips i will probably never finish. i complain about this a lot. i have so many wips. i don’t need more.

here’s one: it’s titled ‘interrobang doesn’t know they’re dating’, it’s basically a full outline for a chowder/tango fic and it would be SO cool if i could ever like. get around to writing it. but i am constantly swamped with writing projects, so it’s probably not gonna happen. if anyone’s interested in adopting it though i’d be down for that!! i think it’s a fun idea i just almost def won’t write it myself

15. What are your writing strengths?

SNAPPY DIALOGUE AND SNARKY INTERNAL MONOLOGUE. my writing is COMEDIC, 90% of my ideas are based on a funny snippet that popped into my head, a lot of my worldbuilding is based on ‘hey you know what would be hilarious’ (whenever i explain how larai selects a chosen one in the rainfall universe i start laughing, which is a STARK contrast to how it plays out on the page), i love writing funny stuff!!

also i think my writing sounds nice, a lot of the time i pick words/syntax based on sound and flow so there’s that too. and i have lots of ideas! i don’t struggle much with writer’s block because a) i have a lot of strategies to deal with it and b) i have a lot of ideas to help get around it/work with it

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

PHYSICAL INTIMACY LMAO, sometimes in my end notes on shippy fics you can see me complaining ‘it took me literally 4 hours to write that very brief kiss’. also sometimes the humor in my writing gets in the way a bit, i have to very consciously put it away so characters can actually have serious, genuine emotions. also i don’t like outlining and i tend not to get betas for fanfiction so like..... i do my best continuity-wise but having really tightly plotted stories is just not my focus lol. (and i do put more effort into that for original stuff, it’s just fic where i kind of go wild)

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If the reader’s supposed to know what it means, then writing it in another language is iffy for me. (stuff like terms of endearment which come up a lot in fic are fine imo, you can just put a note in to translate them and your reader will prob remember)

If the pov character isn’t supposed to understand it, and it doesn’t matter if the reader understands it, then ig it’s fine? but unless you already speak the other language (and i am NOT confident in my ability to translate english into literally any other language), then i think it’s way easier to just note that a character’s speaking x language and provide tone indicators, body language cues, etc. so the reader understands as much as the pov character.

That being said there are def times when it’s used super effectively--the dialogue in spanish in cemetery boys comes to mind! that’s not fanfic but it’s still creative writing so w/e

so i guess it comes down to: does actually writing out the dialogue in the other language serve a purpose? if it doesn’t, then you’re filling up the screen with words your reader isn’t likely to understand, which i try to avoid doing

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

so the first fandom i actually *wrote* for was PJO, but i distinctly remember creating warrior cats OCs when i was little. i never actually did anything w them but i had them and my favorite was a riverclan warrior named shellstream i remember this VIVIDLY

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

oh boy. okay so this is hard because i feel like i’m continuously improving as a writer. like in the sense that my writing is getting closer and closer to really matching my own taste? my favorites tend to always be my current projects as a result. and i do really love set those ghosts alight (HP) but it feels a little like cheating to say a fic i haven’t even finished writing yet. even though it’s def not cheating, that’s just the direction my brain is taking it.

i’m gonna say and then what? (OMGCP) because i’m super proud of the prose (especially ch 2 aka the first actual prose chapter), survived by (HP) for SUCCESSFULLY WRITING AN EMOTION and making readers cry :), and Q&A (AFTG) because i’m literally the one who wrote it and yet it still makes me wheeze. those are all fics i reread occasionally, because i’m big enough to admit i enjoy rereading my old stuff! (just like. to a point. some of my old stuff i can’t look at anymore because all the mistakes stick out to me like they have spotlights shining directly on them)

Relevant canon information: Sirius didn't trust Remus and that's why he chose Peter to be the secret keeper for the Potters.

“So, this is where you grew up.” Remus stood up from the chair and walked up to the sink carrying the piled plates.

Sirius nodded, “Now you know why I was so eager to leave.” He drank the rest of the fire whiskey in his glass.

“Your mother seems lovely.” Remus smiled from the corner of his mouth and glanced at Sirius as he waved his wand and the dishes started washing themselves.

“My favorite part.” Sirius raised his empty glass and gave a half-smile as he set it on top of the table.

Sirius was looking a lot better than last time Remus had seen him. His hair was shorter and almost had the same shine it used to back in school days. He was still thinner than he used to, but didn’t resemble a skeleton as much. His features, on the other hand, maybe would never go back to what they were and his eyes had a sort of shadow over them, that Remus could guess the origin of.

Remus, on the other hand, was looking worse than last time they’d met, with his greying hair and patched up robes. His face looked aged, but he still resembled his younger self when he smiled. He also had a shadow on his eyes, and it made Sirius’ gut twist with guilt every time it became prominent.

The last guest had just closed the door as they left number 12, Grimmauld Place, and they were left alone for the first time in almost a year. They hadn’t exactly left in the friendliest of therms when they parted after Remus left his position at Hogwarts, and Sirius went south for cover. Or maybe they left in the friendliest manner possible, considering what they’d gone through.

Old wounds still lingered in the air above them, not allowing for the warm reunion they longed for but weren’t really ready for. It made the atmosphere heavy, even if they didn’t have anything else to say or settle. All cards had been played, and all there was left to do was move on, impossible as it was to go back to the way things were when they were teens.

Remus waved his wand again and their glasses filled with more fire whiskey as he went back to the table and sat across from the other, “How does it feel to be back in action?” He took a sip from his glass and watched as Sirius leant on the back legs of his chair.

“I’m not really back in action, am I?” Sirius couldn’t keep the bitterness from his voice and the frown from his lips, “Still a fugitive accused of mass murder.”

“Welcome to the pariah’s club.” It was Remus’ turn to raise his glass. “Where linger the undesired.”

“You seem very excited.” Sirius drank half of the drink in his glass.

“Gives me something to think about.” Remus didn’t feel like telling that what was coming as excitement was actually nervousness “You sure it’s ok for me to stay here?”

“Sure. There’s lots of rooms and Kreacher will be delighted to have someone to cuss at.” Sirius emptied the glass into his mouth and swallowed grimacing a little.

“Where is he, by the way?”

“Walburga’s room probably.” Sirius set the glass back down and, when Remus finished his own glass. stood up, “Let’s find you a room.” He grabbed Remus’ suitcase that was left by the door and left the kitchen leading the way upstairs.

Mrs. Black whispered nastily as they passed by the corridor on their way to the higher levels and Sirius fidgeted nervously in a way that made Remus want to hold his hand. He didn’t, instead shoving his hands into his pockets and following the other quietly.

“This was Regulus’ room.” Sirius ran the tips of his fingers over the nameplate on the door, but didn’t stop to look inside or made further comments, “And this is my old room.” He held the door opened and followed in after the other.

Remus couldn’t hold his laughter when he took in the gold and red that decorated the room, “Somehow, it looks exactly the way I thought it would.” He turned, amused, to look at Sirius who still stood by the door, but had a shadow of smile on his lips. “You honor your fame.” “He moved closer to the wall to look at the pictures that were glued there.

Sirius at last entered the room and followed Remus toward the pictures on the wall, “Of mass murderer?” He saw himself and James smiling on the Hogwarts Express and his chest tightened.

Remus turned to give his snarky response, but lost his voice when he saw Sirius so close and with that look in his eyes. His fingers itched to touch him, so he turned around and let them move and touch lightly Sirius’ hand. “I know how hard it is for you.” He said softly.

Sirius didn’t respond with words, instead settling for watching as he intertwined his fingers with Remus’. The feeling of their hands touching, even in such a light way, was so familiar that it sent a chain reaction like shockwaves through their bodies.

Sirius raised his eyes and looked at Remus’ face, so close to his own, and the familiar color of his eyes almost sent tears into his own. “Moony...” He didn’t really know what he wanted to say, he just craved for something he knew only Remus was capable of providing.

“I know.” Was all Remus could come up with as the familiar nickname flooded him with something he had been sure he would never feel again.

They stood just looking at each other until Sirius looked away and at the wall again, and the hopelessness sent Remus forward until their bodies were touching and his arms were around Sirius’ waist.

“I don’t know what to say.” Sirius said against his shoulder with his hands touching Remus’ back.

Remus sighed, “There’s nothing to say.” The dark hair felt nice against his face and Sirius’ body felt right in his arms.

“I’m sorry.” Sirius said anyway.

Remus heart sped up as he realized: “I forgive you.”

Sirius pulled away and pushed the hair away from Remus’ face, searching for something to hold on to. Remus wanted to wash away the darkness that loomed around the other with reassuring words, but instead touched his face with both his hands and ran his thumbs over his cheeks.

Sirius took hold of Remus’ hand again and went to sit on the foot of the bed, keeping his arm outstretched as a sign for the other to do the same. As Remus sat by his side, Sirius started fidgeting with his fingers still held in his hand, keeping his eyes fixed on his own movements.

Remus took a breath and leant in, touching Sirius’ lips with his own very lightly while the fingers of his free hand went up to touch his face again. He licked his lips as Sirius tilted his head towards his touch and closed his eyes when he leant forward to kiss him again, his hand touching Remus’ elbow.

The kiss was shy and temptive as were their touches on each other. Their heartbeats sped as their bodies recognized each other, and they moved closer, their knees touching and their grip on each other’s hand tightening.

Remus moved his hand and laced his fingers in Sirius’ hair, feeling his body heat up as he deepened the kiss, their mouths fitting perfectly.

Sirius pulled away and had to catch his breath as he took in the darkness in Remus’ eyes, “Will you stay the night?”

The words sent a familiar pull to Remus’ gut, “Are you sure?”

“Yeah.”

“Ok” Remus nodded and licked his lips as Sirius moved to lie on the bed.

Sirius motioned for Remus to follow and watched as he did so, lying by his side facing him. Remus touched his shoulder and leant in to kiss him again, and when Sirius responded he put his hand under his shirt, touching his stomach before landing on his chest, feeling his heartbeat under his palm.

As heat engulfed him, Sirius lied on his back and pulled Remus to lie on top of him, kissing him again, hard and desperate as he felt himself getting hard against the other’s thigh between his legs.

Remus felt the world spin as he touched Sirius over his pants and was able to feel the warmth of his hardness through the fabric as Sirius lost his breath at the touch.

“It’s been a while for me, so this might go really fast.” Sirius leant his head back into the pillow.

“It’s ok.”Remus smiled and kissed his jaw, still touching him over his pants and pressing his own hard-on against Sirius’ thigh.

Sirius couldn’t keep the words from leaving his lips, “Have you been with anyone else?”

Remus was expecting a question of the sort and had his answer ready: “Is there really an answer to that that would sooth you in any way?”

Sirius took a moment to think about the possible answers – that Remus had been with someone else in his absence, or that he had spent the last twelve years on his own – and realized: “Not really.”

To what Remus responded lightly: “There you are then.” The answer was no, but he had more pressing matters on his hands than the time he spent alone.

Remus kissed Sirius jaw and then his neck, breathing him in and rejoicing at feeling of Sirius in the air surrounding him again. He opened Sirius’ pants and put his hand inside, moving it over his dick and down to his balls before moving back up and wrapping his fingers around the hardened warm flesh. He moved his hand along the length, his lips still close to his pulse, as he felt Sirius’ chest rise and fall under him.

“Do you have any lube?” Sirius blurted out suddenly.

Under the blankets they felt warm and secure in a way they hadn’t in ages, and as they closed their eyes and kissed lazyly they could almost pretend they were 18 again and the war they were fighting was still an old one.

Astronomy 101:

Zodiac Constellations

Zodiac constellations are constellations that lie along the plane of the ecliptic.

The ecliptic, or the apparent path of the Sun, is defined by the circular path of the Sun across the sky, as seen from Earth. In other words, the Sun appears to pass through these constellations over the course of a year.

The passage of the Sun through the zodiac is a cycle that was used by ancient cultures to determine the time of year. Most of the planets in the solar system have orbits that take them near the ecliptic plane, within about 8 degrees above or below.

The 12 constellations in the zodiac family can all be seen along the ecliptic.

They are: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo,Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, Capricornus, Aquarius and Pisces.

The northern zodiac constellations Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and Leo – are located in the eastern celestial hemisphere, while the southern –Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, Capricornus and Aquarius – are found in the west.

Seven of the constellations found along the ecliptic represent animals, as they did in Greek and Roman times:

Aries (The Ram)

Taurus (The Bull)

Cancer (The Crab)

Leo (The Lion)

Scorpius (The Scorpion)

Capricornus (The Goat)

Pisces (The Fish)

Today, the term “zodiac” is mostly associated with astrology, with the 12 signs of the western zodiac corresponding to the 12 constellations seen along the ecliptic.

The so-called cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) mark the beginning of the four seasons, i.e. the Sun is said to enter these signs on the first days of spring, summer, autumn and winter, respectively.

Aries is a midsize constellation that's not particularly luminous, with only a few stars that are easily visible to the naked eye. The Greeks and the Egyptians traditionally associated the constellation with a ram. In Greek mythology, the ram was golden and was sacrificed to Zeus, the Greek leader of the gods. Although Aries is an ancient constellation, it was not officially recognized by the muggle International Astronomical Union until 1922, and its boundaries were not defined until 1930 by muggle astronomer Eugène Delporte. Alpha, Beta and Gamma Arietis are the three brightest stars within the Aries constellation. The brightest is the red giant star Alpha Arietis, also known as Hamal.

Taurus is hard to miss as he charges through the northern winter sky. "The bull" is one of the most noticeable constellations and one of the oldest documented constellations, with descriptions of Taurus going as far back as the early Bronze Age. Taurus is most famous for its red giant star, Aldebaran, as well as a star cluster known as the Pleiades. Aldebaran also forms part of a V-shaped asterism, or group of stars, that is called the Hyades; this shape makes up the bull's face. Orange-hued Aldebaran is often described as glaring at Orion,the hunter, a constellation that lies just to the star's southwest. In addition to the Hyades, the constellation's other major star cluster is the Pleiades, which consists of seven stars that rest on the bull's shoulder. It is said that these stars represent the Seven Sisters, daughters of Atlas and Pleione from Greek mythology. When Zeus fell in love with the Phoenician Princess Europa, he transformed himself into a white bull with golden horns named Taurus and carried Europa away to Crete.

Cancer is almost impossible to see Cancer as a crab with the naked eye or even binoculars. It looks more like a faint, upside-down Y. Perhaps the most famous exoplanet in the constellation is 55 Cancri e, a super-Earth that was (for a time) identified as a "diamond world." The original observations suggested that the host star had more carbon than oxygen in its interior. However, a follow-up study suggested that there is far less carbon in the planet than originally envisioned so "diamond" may be a misnomer. The constellation of Cancer represents the giant crab that attacked Hercules during the second of the 12 labors he performed as penance for killing his family. It was sent by the jealous goddess Hera to thwart Hercules as he battled the water serpent Hydra, but he killed it with his club.

Leo the Lion is one of the earliest recognized constellations. The Mesopotamians are known to have documented the "lion" constellation. Leo is a highly recognizable constellation, as it is one of the few constellations that resemble its namesake. It is fairly easy to find because the "pointer stars" of the Big Dipper point to Leo. The constellation can be found by looking for the head of the lion, or the "sickle," starting at the Regulus star. In Greek mythology, Leo is the Nemean Lion, which terrorized the citizens and had a hide that could not punctured by iron, bronze or stone. Killing the lion was another one of Hercules' 12 labors. Having broken all of his weapons fighting the man-eating lion, Hercules finally strangled it to death and placed it in the heavens as one of his conquests.

Scorpius has intrigued people for centuries, not only for its distinctive shape, but also because it is one of the brightest constellations in the sky. The name is Latin for scorpion, or literally translated as the "creature with the burning sting”. Scorpius happens to be the location for several interesting exoplanets, who have metrics ranging from extreme old age to potential habitability. The planet PSR B1620-26 b is sometimes nicknamed "Methuselah" as it is estimated at roughly 12.7 billion years old. Scorpius and Orion are often intertwined in Greek mythology. According to one myth, Orion boasted that he would kill every animal on the earth. The goddess-hunter Artemis and her mother, Leto, dispatched a scorpion to kill Orion. Zeus put the scorpion in the heavens after it won the battle. In another myth, the god Apollo, Artemis's twin brother, grew angry and sent a scorpion to attack Orion because he claimed to be a better hunter than Artemis. Zeus put Orion and Scorpius in the sky, but they are visible at different times of the year.

Capricornus represents a creature that is a blend of fish and goat; the name means "goat horn" in Latin. Capricornus is among the faintest constellations, just brighter than Cancer. Three bright stars Alpha-2 Capricorni, Beta Capricorni, and Omega Capricorni form a triangle that makes it easier to pick out the constellation. The constellation has its roots in the cultures of Sumeria, which identified it with a mythical figure that was half goat and half fish. Also Babylonia, which portrayed it as a goat-human hybrid. The Greeks associate the constellation with Pan, the god of nature. Part of Pan's lore was that he helped Zeus fight the Titans to earn his spot in the heavens. He escaped the monster Typhon by jumping into the Nile, but only half of his body was submerged, so he was a fish in the part of his body that remained underwater. Other spins on the tale have the constellation associated with Amalthaea, the mythical goat that acted as a foster mother to Zeus as an infant.

Pisces named for the Latin plural of fish. Pisces is notable for containing the point at which the sun crosses the celestial equator into the Northern Hemisphere around March 20 each year. This point, called the vernal equinox, used to lie in Aries, but has moved into Pisces because of the Earth's wobble on its axis, called precession. In the sky, Pisces is represented as two fish swimming at right angles to each other, one to the north and one to the west. They are attached by a cord. Virgo is a congested constellation with dozens of known exoplanets and at least a dozen Messier objects. It is the largest constellation of the Zodiac and the second-largest constellation overall, behind Hydra. Virgo is typically linked to Dike, the Greek goddess of justice, and Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, the harvest goddess. According to Greek mythology, the earth experienced eternal spring until the god of the underworld abducted the spring maiden Persephone.

Gemini is Latin for "twins," although the twins identified with the constellation depend on the culture. In Egyptian astrology, the constellation was identified with twin goats, while Arabian astrology said it was twin peacocks. The Western world tends to identify these twins as Castor and Pollux from Greek myth. But other twin pairs identified with Gemini in the Western world include the older and younger Horus and the mythical founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus.

Libra is Latin for weighing scales, making it the only constellation of the Zodiac representing an inanimate object. The association with scales and balance began with the ancient Babylonians, with the scales representing the balance between the seasons as well as day and night. The ancient Greeks viewed Libra as the claws of Scorpius reaching out. To the Romans, Libra represented the scales of justice being held by the goddess Virgo or Astraea.

Aquarius is a one of the oldest documented constellations. Aquarius was recorded in the second century by the Greek muggle astronomer Ptolemy. Its name means "cup bearer" or "water bearer" in Latin. The Greeks linked this constellation with Ganymede, the cupbearer to the gods. According to lore, Ganymede was a good-looking young man who was the object of Zeus' affection and was brought to Mount Olympus, where he served as cupbearer to the gods and was granted eternal youth. Aquarius has also has various meanings and associations in other cultures. Babylonian astronomers identified the constellation as representing the god Ea, or "The Great One," which was often pictured with an overflowing vessel. In ancient Egypt, the water bearer’s jar was said to cause the spring overflow of the Nile when it was dipped into the river. The Chinese astronomers viewed the "stream" as soldiers.

Sagittarius was recorded in the 2nd century by the Greek astronomer Ptolemy, and it is Latin for archer.The constellation's brightest stars — Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, Phi, Lambda, Gamma-2, Sigma and Tau Sagittarii — form a star pattern, or asterism, called the Teapot. Delta, Epsilon and Lambda Sagittarii come together to form the archer's bow. Sagittarius is home to the bright blue hypergiant Pistol Star, one of the brightest stars discovered in the Milky Way. The Greeks identify Sagittarius as a centaur, horse-human hybrid with the body of a man atop the four legs of a horse. The creature is aiming an arrow toward its neighbor Scorpio. The lore has Sagittarius the Archer shooting Scorpio the Scorpion, which had been sent to kill Orion the Hunter. Sagittarius is sometimes confused with another centaur, Chiron of the Centaurus constellation. The Babylonians associated Sagittarius with the god Pabilsaĝ, who had two heads, one human, one panther, wings and was sometimes called "the wild bull with multi colored legs."

I love the idea of a Marauders afterlife. Purely because

A) there are a lot of people who have a lot of very violent things to say to Wormtail. And if you think Sirius is the one he should be scared of, you are INCORRECT. It’s Lily, followed closely by Mrs Potter, then James, then probably Tonks honestly, but more because I reckon Mr Potter is chill as hell and she’d take the betrayal of her cousin/maurader-in-laws very seriously.

B) Wormtail tries to butter up Fred. ‘I’m Scabbers, see, look, we’re family’. He wouldn’t even comprehend that Fred is one half of the Weasley troublemakers, a giant Harry Potter supporter and a full blooded redhead. Fred punches him in the face, a) for betrayal, b) how dare a middle aged man sleep in the same bed as his younger brother

C) Alice and Frank Longbottom! Finally passing away! Regaining their lost and broken memories! Talking to old friends! Seeing Neville happy! Reminiscing with the Potters about their boys! Lily telling Alice that don’t worry, I’ll fill you in on everything, we watched out for him too!

D) Tonks. And. Lily. I don’t care if you’re canon or shipping but imagine. Lily knows all their darkest fears and their most humiliating moments. There is literally NO ONE more likely to convince Tonks to turn into Snape at any random time and just pop out around corners. Not that she needs much convincing.

E) Snape. Gosh you think Wormtail is in trouble? Wait til James get his hands on Snape. I DONT CARE THAT YOU LOVED HER HOW DARE YOU BULLY MY SON LIKE THAT. Sirius stands there, smirking, because he knows James terrifies Snape (also imagine that James was what, 19? 20? when he died. Sirius looks younger in the afterlife, so what does Snape reverse to? Is he an old, gaunt man or a skinny 25y-o?). But he knows what’s coming next is so much worse, and that’s Lily slapping him cold across the face. No firey temper or sharp tongue. No reprimands. Just stone cold rage.

F) FRED AND THE MAURADERS. Imagine he comes through the veil, sees some friends, is comforted blah blah and the he sees James and he’s like

‘Harry? You can’t be here!’ All in a panic and James just goes

‘Nah mate I’m Prongs’ with a shit eating grin on his face. And he watches Fred put all the pieces together - he’s seen Lily, she’s easy to pick with the hair and Harry’s eyes, and he knows Sirius and Lupin and Tonks but this bloke looks like Harry and he’s holding Lily’s hand and it clicks

Padfoot, Moony, Wormtail and Prongs. Harry’s patronus. Harry’s dad is Prongs. Sirius turns into a dog, Moony is a fucking werewolf pun. A dude just turned into a rat claiming he was Fred’s family. And he immediately goes ‘oh Harry you fucker’ followed by

‘OI YOU TWO FUCKERS‘ directed at Lupin and Sirius and Lily is like

‘Whomp there is it’ grinning her head off knowing that there is a fourth Maurader for a bit. At least until George gets there.

(When George arrives, before he can greet anyone, he drags his brother off by the collar and points the Mauraders out with the kind of venom that can only come from waiting 60 years to tell your twin such important information)

Fred: ‘this is amazing! Tell me all your stories!’

James: ‘Sure when you tell us the flying-car-jail-break story bc that looked bloody legendary’

G) *sing song voice* Dumbledore’s in trouble, Dumbledore’s in trouble.

I expect there are people that want to say things to him. Very nasty things. His mother and sister for one. Probably Lily and James for two. Definitely Fred for three. Then Lily again.

‘You dropped my son off? On a doorstep?’

H) Regulus in NO WAY expects to be greeted warmly but what do you know. When he finds his brother, Sirius kind of just appraises him and goes

‘Well look maybe you aren’t all that bad’ *voice gets very soft, Sirius looks away* ‘sorry for always assuming you were a dick’

James, from like, a kilometre away, yells

‘SORRY WHAT DID YOU SAY? WAS THAT AN APOLOGY? DID SIRIUS BLACK JUST APOLOGISE?’ And he completely ruins the moment but also diffuses a lot of tension.

I) ANDROMEDA LOVING TEDDY TO PIECES AND SEEING TONKS AFTER AND BEING SO HAPPY AND TONKS JUST BAWLING HER THANKS. Lily is not present for that conversation, because that should have been what her son got, too.

J) Narcissa getting a relatively warm reception? And it’s so odd? Lily meets her at the train station and shakes her hand? And it’s this weird, mutually respectful relationship. It’s not forgiveness, per se, but it is a shared understanding of what a mother will do for her child.

K) Going all out, good grief, imagine the hell Petunia gets when she gets there. Oof.

L) LILY AND JAMES THANKING ARTHUR AND MOLLY AND HAGRID FOR BEING HARRYS FAMILY NO MATTER WHAT. Lily and James eventually meeting Rob and Hermione and Lily just falls into Ron sobbing bc really Ron was the mum friend, and James is crying while he hugs Hermione so, so tight. And neither of them are expecting it, they were just...raised well. And Harry is their friend. And they didn’t even realise it was such a big deal (mostly bc they were so young). Arthur and Molly do. They always, always do.

L1) James to Arthur: tell us the flying car story!

Everyone: *groans* not AGAIN

Molly: I’LL TELL YOU ABOUT IT

Lily: actually I might like this perspective, proceed

M) And finally, 893 years later when Minerva agrees that yes, maybe the afterlife sounds nice now (we all know Death comes for her and she tells him to go away for another century. And he listens.), she arrives. Greeted with Sirius, James, Lupin, Lily, Tonks and Fred, all standing there, waiting for her. All these kids that she probably taught, most of whom were in her house, all of whose lives were cut far, far too short. These young people who she loves so dearly, but was also constantly deeply exhausted and exasperated by. And they’re all grinning at her, waiting.

She tries to get back on the train.

Regulus feels a shiver run through him at the sight of the draping white tendrils. This is a familiar place, but it is also a mournful one. The scattered somatic links hold no life in them now. However, he can hardly think much of them at this time. Strange echoes from an age long gone reach him, eerily intact, and take him back to that place. The death of his second mother haunts him still.

The shimmering strand of light and sound takes him down into a dark pit. At the very bottom, the scenery changes. Lua’s Orokin influence is gone, the grey stone and gilded white replaced with architecture astoundingly... Tenno. He draws a breath - no, not quite. His heart quickens, and he moves along the platform towards an open space beyond.

Tangles of wires and tubes hang down from the high ceiling, and a calm purple haze suffuses the space around him. Something just past the edge of the platform rises, and begins to shift in shape. Regulus continues to creep forward, not so much cautious as anticipatory. Something in his heart tells him not to be afraid.

His heart is wrong. The flower opens, the Lotus revealed at its center, and for a brief moment, Regulus believes she speaks to him, and he smiles. The smiles fades as soon as Ballas steps forward, responding to her as though she had spoken to him instead. Maybe she had. What follows makes no sense to Regulus; Ballas addresses the Lotus with the name of a ghost, and she; she sheds her crown and takes his hand. Together with Ballas, she turns... and disappears.

Another mother, gone. Regulus rushes to her discarded mask, and clutches it to his chest, all joy and fearlessness gone with her. Memories of the Zariman race back to him, but not the ones awakened by the Grineer Queens. The echoes in his head come from a time long before Margulis. His first mother. His real mother. She is gone, Margulis is gone, the Lotus is gone; gone, gone, gone; they have all left him in one form or another.

Tears soak his cheeks, running down his chin and neck, flooding him. No answers lie here, in this place, abandoned. He grips the crown tighter, drops to his knees, and wails aloud, filling the empty space with his grief. He feels more alone than ever before.

Gone, gone, gone.

B I O G R A P H Y :

The Ancient and Noble House of Black held weeklong celebrations to honor the birth of their first son and heir, Sirius Orion Black. Born on November 3rd, 1959, Orion and Walburga’s first son was meant to continue the firm legacy and tradition the Black family is known for. The family tree was to be kept pure, free of muggleborns, half-breeds, or halfbloods. Always Pure, a model to be upheld. As a child, Sirius never would have thought of breaking it. A burned out face on a family tree was a threat to be thoroughly feared.

Sirius did not grow up alone. He grew up with a brother: the calm and collected to Sirius’ fiery passion, the steady to Sirius’ rock the boat. No matter what would come of their later years – betrayal on both sides, and a disappearance to boot – Sirius loved Regulus. And when Sirius loves, he does not do it quietly, or simply. He has always loved with all of himself, and nothing less, no matter what he shows the world of his heart.

Sirius grew up learning the same information that would indoctrinate Death Eaters, hateful rhetoric that he would grow to believe until he learned better. At the time, he knew only what his parents had taught him, and he grew up the same as many other children of the Twenty-Eight. Though Sirius grew up fearing his parents, he also grew up loving and respecting them. Their cold shoulders and anger were rarely turned on him before he turned eleven, and when they did, it was always for something he quickly apologized for.

It was not until Hogwarts that Sirius learned differently. The Sorting Hat had a lot to do with it, but not all. It saw something different in Sirius than it saw in the rest of his traditionally Slytherin sorted family. The Hat saw that Sirius would learn far more from Gryffindor than Slytherin, and being a wise hat, that was where he was placed. Of course it was more than that. Deep down, Sirius did not want to be like his mother or father, did not want to be placed in Slytherin, even if this was not something he realized right away.

In Gryffindor, Sirius would meet and befriend three people who became the most important people in his life: James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. His placement in Gryffindor caused a rift in his home that would quickly fall into disrepair. They got on like a house on fire – or maybe like Gryffindor house on fire. Mayhem and pranks and laughter filled the halls of Hogwarts for most of their seven years.

Sirius’ friendship with James was steadfast, a type of brotherhood he thought he’d never have after being sorted into Gryffindor. James saw Sirius for Sirius, not for the blood status that some envied and others hated,

During their second year, the three friends discovered the true cause of Remus’ monthly disappearences. Instead of abandoning him, they turned to research and during the next three years, worked tirelessly to become Animagi in order to help their friend. Becoming Animagi, of course, wasn’t the only endeavor the Marauders worked on.

He and James spent much of their time at Hogwarts bullying Snape and his cronies. Hexes flew in both directions whenever either group was around. And it was bullying, even if it did go both ways for Snape. There were others, such as Bertram, that it did not go both ways for. Though he would learn and regret this type of bullying later on, at the time he did not see it as bullying at all – just playful pranks that the other person didn’t like. Sirius thought that the group was unstoppable.

By the time Sirius was in the summer after his fifth year, tensions at home had grown insurmountable. Sirius and his family’s ideologies were wildly different at this point, and the way they treated him had started to reach a breaking point. Already tense due to the previous school year’s events (a prank gone terribly wrong that nearly broke the friendship in half), Sirius snapped. His mother burned him off the family tapestry immediately, casting him out of the family and disowning him permanently. His younger brother Regulus did not follow in his footsteps, despite an earlier plea.

When Sirius ran, he went the only place he could think of going: the Potters. He showed up on his doorstep unannounced, asking to only stay there for a couple of nights, and received a home. Everything he’d learned in his years at Hogwarts taught him that real family were the boys he’d found at school, and that a real family acted like James’ did. He lived with the Potters during breaks until his Uncle Alphard died when he was seventeen. At that time, Sirius bought an apartment and supported himself, though he often went to the Potters during Christmas and New Years. He was happy for the money not because he was no longer poor, but because he no longer had to rely on the Potters. He hated feeling anything close to a burden.

Graduation was not attended by any of the family he was born with other than Andromeda and her husband. Instead, his graduation was celebrated and attended by his found family. Far from the weeklong celebration of his birth, Sirius cherished this one over everything else. An invitation to join the Order of the Phoenix post graduation meant the world to him. An outspoken blood traitor and a skilled fighter, Sirius was a boy willing to dedicate himself to the cause: and he did.

The sudden disappearance of his brother has shaken him to his core. Though he’d suspected for some time that his brother was a Death Eater, this seemed like confirmation. And before he could change anything: he’s gone. Sirius doesn’t want to believe he’s dead, but at his core, he’s not sure what to believe at all.

His worst fear is worse than his brother being dead.

regulus black headcanons

regulus and sirius’s parents not having time for their son so kreacher would sneak in and rock baby regulus to sleep

toddler regulus following kreacher around the house and doing ‘chores’ along behind him

tiny regulus following his big brother sirius around the house and convincing sirius to play adventure games with him and pretend to be explorers

regulus unlike his brother embracing the idea of being a slytherin

regulus not really understanding the concept of blood purity and just accepting it because he trusted his parents not knowing anything else

sirius going away to hogwarts and regulus realizing how empty his house was without other kids and forcing kreacher to play with him but kreacher secretly loving it and being rather good at wizard chess

sirius being put into gryffindor and their parents being furious and talking about disowning him and regulus quietly saying ‘why does it matter what house he’s in mummy he’s still siri’

regulus sending letters to sirius secretly hoping he’ll answer them but sirius thinking his brother will be just as furious as his parents ignoring them

regulus incredibly proud that kreacher could be of help to the dark lord

horrified upon hearing what happened to kreacher but knowing he couldn’t allow this to go on and doing research figuring out that the locket was a horcrux and making plans

regulus slipping into his parents room when they were sleeping right before he left and kissing both their heads

knowing that what he was doing would protect them even if they didn’t know it

regulus drinking the potion and thinking of the girlfriend he’d pushed away and how all his pain would be worth it if it left voldemort a little weaker and sure that one day, one day it would all be worth it
