[Bellatrix's first ride on the Hogwarts Express]
Bellatrix, leaning out the window: Bye Reg! Bye Cissy! Bye Andy! Bye Reg! Bye Siri-
Sirius: You said bye to Reg twice.
Bellatrix: I like Regulus best.

Sirius and James were not the same type of rich, I see this a lot, and a lot of people think that itβs canon, which is just, incorrect. James came from new money, Sirius came from old money.
Fleamont Potterβs business heavily, HEAVILY contributed to Jamesβ wealth, sure Harry by our terms and by wizard terms inherited a LOT, absolutely, but from what we know from canon itβs incomparable to the Blacks fortune, itβs like comparing Dracoβs and Harryβs wealth at the start of the series, you canβt.
Another thing to add is that the Most Noble and Ancient House of Black has that name for a reason, now sure, just because theyβre known doesnβt mean theyβre rich but we can quite confidently say they were, if you wanted to argue for the Pottersβ being wealthier, you could I guess say that at the time the Blacks were a declining old money family, but they were still incredibly, INCREDIBLY wealthy.
We donβt know for certain how rich they were, or if they were richer than the Malfoys but because of how money works, old money specifically, we can say that at some point in the last few centuries(pre 1980) that they were as rich, or even richer than the Malfoys, however they werenβt as rich as them when it reached the 80βs. We can also guess they had the same amount of money or one of them had more, because Narcissa married Lucius so theoretically, Narcissa would have to be on the same level as Lucius in terms of wealth and vice versa.
Another thing we can use to calculate their wealth is their past history with house elves, from what we know from Ronald Weasley in Chamber of Secrets, a wizard/witch has to be βrolling in doughβ to have a house elf, we can then look at the wall of dead house elves heads that the family had, and can make assumptions from there.
So, with all this information, we donβt have an exact amount, but, we know that even if they werenβt as wealthy as we paint them they were still known, and their opinions were highly regarded by an astounding amount, but then again, they were still insanely rich, and in terms of wealth and fame, leagues above the Potters.
The Potters were extremely wealthy, but the Blacks were loaded.
Anyways thatβs the end of my Ted talk.

Day 8: Constellation
Narcissa was a dutiful daughter to her parents, her House, her legacy. She never stepped out of line or raised her voice in protest, βAs a lady should,β her mother would scathingly remind in inference of her older sistersβ brashness. But Bellatrixβs taunting songs rung in her head, of the field of stars the family cast up into the night sky, and how little Cissa was the only flower stuck on the ground.

Teddy Lupin was raised by his grandmother, Andromeda TONKS. The woman who lost her husband, daughter and son-in-law in less than six months. Teddy was all she had left and people are here wanting to hand him off to a traumatised 17 year old.

Short Black family is OUT obscenely unfairly tall Black family is IN. Andromeda being taller than Ted. Regulus being slightly shorter than Sirius, who towers over pretty much everyone. Walburga who is 5β11 and 6 foot in heels. Bellatrix who towers over the other death eaters. Narcissa being the same height as Lucius Malfoy.

I just had a new idea for a headcanon!
I was thinking that within The Black Family, they had this tradition that every time a Black child was born, they would give the baby pure silver chains with the constellation or star they were named after.
Something like this but in silver with tiny diamonds. Which cost a fortune of course. Each chain is made specially for the new born. And of course it has magic of itself.
So all The Black Family members have one. Most of them wear it all the time. And others take it off from time to time. But they aren't able to lose them. Part of the magic keeps the chain attached to it's owner. It is a important jewelry as a Black.
They are very fine expensive jewelry (silver with diamonds) that only a family rich like them could afford. And they are kind of part of their identity as a family member. With even a personality of itself.
If a family member gets disowned, they automatically have to give the chain back. They don't have the right to use it anymore.
In Andromeda's case, I believed she ran away with Ted. So nobody had the chance to take her chain away. They didn't care or actually forgot. And she doesn't wear it anymore but she keeps it stored away. And sometimes looks at it remembering about her sisters and what they used to be.
Bellatrix and Narcissa always wore theirs, proud of the family they belonged to.
(Edit: Narcissa would have her flower on her chain of course. A big diamond in the center).
And at some point, Sirius and Regulus switched theirs when Sirius first went to Hogwarts. Sirius gave him his chain, promising that his star would protect him from anything. Even if he wasn't around. So Regulus kept it but in exchange, he gave him his. They made that some sort of tradition. To exchange chains each time they would go back to Hogwarts, to feel closer to each other.
When Sirius ran away and was disowned everything happened so fast that he took Regulus' chain with himself. And inspite of disagreeing with his family and hating what they did to him, Sirius kept using Regulus' chain in his brother's honor. Because he missed him and he felt closer to him.
Regulus didn't take off Sirius' chain as well. The rest of the family didn't even notice he was wearing the wrong chain. So they never questioned it.
I don't know, it is just a random idea I had. It is something that definitely The Black Family would do.
