Read below…
Life in Jackson is promising, nearly a year and half here and Joel feels comfortable, no longer itching for a way out of civilisation because he’s just not used to that no more. Ellie is settled too - finally. She’s attending school three days a week, enjoying the new responsibilities that come with being sixteen and the tad bit of freedom it brings. She helps out at the stables, in the kitchen too but she’s not a fan. She likes being in the library most, checking in and out books, tidying shelves, using her art to create eye catching displays aimed at the younger generation of Jackson.
Joel is proud, his heart feels like it could burst out of his chest all the time. Ellie is still full of wit and charisma that comes out in curses and daft puns that make Joel roll his eyes and get her in a headlock until she’s laughing so hard she’s pink in the face.
There’s times when she skips school completely if a male teacher has subbed in, she flinches away if someone comes too close and sometimes if it’s stew night at dinner, she’ll stare blankly into her bowl at the chunks of meat and see a severed ear, she’ll try to swallow but gag instead. These are nights Joel gives her his bread and Tommy will too, then he’ll make her a fruit salad when they get home with a little double cream poured over it.
The nightmares are persistent on these bad days where triggers occur, he finds Ellie in bed screaming and thrashing multiple times a week. She’ll sob and cry hoarsely as he holds her, hushing her gently and resting his cheek on her head. Most of the time she’ll fall back asleep with him beside her, curled into him like she did back at Silver Lake when death was close.
But mostly, everything’s okay.
Joel had been with Tommy every single day this week so far and it was Thursday evening, they’d been focusing on fixing up the bathroom in a house way further down from his, they were getting it ready for a family that had expanded to move in. The floor was rotten and the pipes wrecked, neither of them were particularly fond of plumbing but they sorted it between them. There was still the kitchen to do but that was a job for tomorrow and probably Saturday too but not Sunday, that was his day with Ellie.
Sunday’s were for late breakfasts of bacon and pancakes - before and after the world ended. The only thing that changed was the kid for Joel, he used to serve Sarah indulgent breakfasts on a Sunday and they’d do something together and the tradition was carried on with Ellie and Sarah remained tucked in his heart.
Tired and stiff from working hunched over all day, Joel was enjoying a quiet drink with Tommy. They were tucked away on a small table with two stools, Joel would have preferred something with a back but beggars can’t be choosers; he was grateful for the cold glass of bourbon nearly empty in front of him and the sound of Dire Straits playing over the old speakers.
As always, Tommy is picking and prying into his lack of a love life. Since he’s noticed his older brother being more settled within the community, he’d been trying his hardest to set him up with various women and Tommy Miller was nothing if not persistent.
At this point in the day, Tommy’s voice is almost just white noise.
“Cath is nice.” Tommy pointed out, Joel snorts.
“She’s also gay, Tommy.”
“Oh shit, really? I didn’t know.”
“Clearly. Can we please stop talking about this? It’s the same thing every fuckin’ time I come drinking with you.” Joel begs, Tommy sighs heavily but drops it for now.
Joel takes in the scenery as he sits there, grateful for the moments silence from Tommy. His eyes stray to the left of the table and he listens as you speak to Denton, an older gentleman in his late sixties with a love of horses. He’s quizzing you about the new mare in the stables, he hears you mention checking on her again after your shift because she’s been particularly temperamental since she was brought in from outside but you’ve developed a nice bond with her, she’s slowly becoming more trusting.
It occurs to Joel that everyone likes you - literally everyone, even Ellie and she was a tough nut to crack. You’re sweet, soft spoken yet confident. You’re always helping out where you can; on patrols, stable duty, in the communal garden, sometimes at the school and also here at the bar when Darius needs his shift covered.
You find good things on patrol and give them to Joel or Ellie before taking the rest for the community, so they get first pick of everything.
You’re just the sweetest thing.
Tommy sees you and beckons you with a friendly wave, you mutter a goodbye to Denton and pat his hand.
“Hey.” You hear your name called over the music and you turn as Tommy Miller grabs your attention as you scoop up two glasses and an empty bowl that once held nuts and dried berries from the table two away from his and Joel’s.
“Yes, Miller?” You patter over with your hands occupied, you sneak a look at his older sibling, sparing him a wink as a greeting, he smirks softly back.
“Has Darius got an other fuckin’ music or are we strictly limited to the sounds of 1985 tonight?” He questions and you laugh, shaking your head.
“You don’t like Dire Straits?”
“He doesn’t appreciate good music.” Joel interjects, shaking his head at Tommy.
“I do - but other music. Eminem or even fuckin’ Britney! Anything but this shit.” Tommy groans, tossing his head back.
“Keep talking smack about Dire Straits, Miller - and I’ll snitch to your wife about the fact you’ve switched patrols with Mark twice this week because you were too hungover to go.” You smile sweetly at Tommy, tilting your head.
“Snitches get stitches.” Tommy remarks playfully, not an ounce of malice in his dark brown eyes and your eyebrows rise, you beam back.
“That right? Well, troublesome men get barred for life.”
“Oooooh.” Joel chimes in, looking amusedly between you and his younger brother.
“Touché.” Tommy quips, folding his arms.
“Tell you what, next time I’m in, I’ll have a rummage out back and see if I can find you some Britney. Bless you.” You pinch his cheek as you walk past and he swats your hand, rubbing the spot while Joel laughs.
“You’re pushing your luck giving her lip, I’m not sure if you’re aware but this is the only operational bar in Wyoming.”
“Tell me about it.” He grumbles back, Joel shakes his head once more as the door behind Tommy on the back wall opens.
“Joeeeeeel?!” He hears yelled from close by, he looks up and sees Ellie dragging her sneakers across the floor, scouring the bar for him with her honey coloured eyes eagerly. She spots him within seconds, beaming and practically skipping over to him and Tommy in the corner. “There you are, I looked fucking everywhere for you.” She groans dramatically, throwing her head back. “I wanna go out, I’m bored shitless at home. There’s nothing for me to do and yes - I’ve done my school work.” She quickly adds.
“You done those quadratic equation questions we were going over last night?” He raises his eyebrow.
“Yep. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, though I did ask my teacher because I’m pretty sure you were figuring them out wrong. You were, by the way.” Joel puffs indignantly, rolling his eyes. Ellie spins to Tommy, the soles of her shoes squeaking. “Can I try that?” She’s laser focused on the bourbon swimming between globes of ice in Tommy’s glass.
“What have I said the last twenty times you’ve asked, El?” Tommy’s dark brows are high on his forehead, his mouth is twisted with hidden laughter. Ellie rolls her eyes with annoyance, sloping over to Joel now.
“No.” She huffs, swinging her lanky arms around Joel. She hums and rubs her face into his shoulder bone, resting there for a second before her attentions shifts comically fast. There’s a warmth that spreads through Joel every single time she does this, she’s so casual about it and he’s drawn the conclusion that it’s a teenage thing because Sarah was the same. There’s a sadness that blossoms too, a darkness that twists and anchors in his chest as he thinks of her and who she’d be now. He can’t dwell for too long, not now - he did that for too long.
At one dark point in time, human connection was not key to survival, hence why he always kept Tess at arms length and then referred to Ellie as cargo until one snowy day it became apparent she was no longer cargo when she was frenzied and panting in his arms, splattered with the blood of a predator and gasping like she was taking her last breath. The sound haunted him for a long time, all memories of Sarah hitting him like a freight train. He had to protect Ellie, the minute he drew her in - oh baby girl - and held her tightly, wrapped in his coat and clinging to him just as hard.
Ellie’s his kid now. She’s his. He’s hers. They’re a family. Ellie Williams Miller - that’s how she’s known now. It’s scrawled on her school books. The love he feels for this human tornado in sneakers is unmatched, the one thing he’s ever been truly good at has been restored and it’s a role he knows well; being a father.
Sure, this teenager that he’s raising is the furthest from bubblegum pink and Avril Lavigne she could be, she’s particularly jagged around the edges and does have the temperament of an unsocialised cat that will bite if you get too close.
He looks down at her, rubbing into him like she’s trying to get his smell on her because it’s comforting and she feels safe and feels his heart ready to burst.
Of course the sweet moment of affection is shattered when Ellie yawns directly into his fucking ear because why wouldn’t she?
He grunts when she bears most of her weight on his aching shoulders, leaning easily into him and twisting her small fingers into his flannel.
“So? Can I go or not?” She presses.
“Go where?” He prompts, raising his eyebrow.
“Toni’s from school. Her cat had kittens a few weeks ago and they’re starting to play. Five of them, Joel! That’s a lotta kittens!” Ellie enunciates, brown eyes wide and Joel can’t help the smile that graces his otherwise tired face.
“You mean a litter?” He corrects and Ellie pauses, frowning.
“Huh?”
“A bunch of kittens is a litter, Ellie.” He informs her and she somehow manages to frown even more, she makes a noise like she’s computing the new information.
“Yeah, whatever.” She mumbles, Tommy snorts in amusement. “So I can go see them?” She presses, shifting her weight again and Joel groans louder now, unhooking her arms from his shoulders with a quiet ‘don’t do that, baby’ that’s full of affection.
“Yes but you’re back at nine latest, okay? Nine. I’ll be waiting for you, the minute those street lamps turn on, you’re home.” Joel says, Ellie’s mouthing along to his instructions that he’s been laying out since Summer began and the evenings stretched longer. “Be good.” He speaks more softly now and she nods, he presses a kiss to the side of her head, her eyelashes flutter happily as the warmth blossoms in her too with the security that’s Joel Miller.
“Peesh. I’m always good. Bye Tommy!” She says excitedly, fist bumping him when it’s offered.
“See ya, squirt.” Tommy replies but before he’s even voiced his reply, Ellie’s hurrying away and knocking into a patron while waving to you on the way out of the door so hard it slams. Joel sighs, thinking she’s a literal hurricane.
The door hinge has barely stopped shaking before Tommy starts with the suggestions of suitors once more.
“What about Myleene?” Tommy proposes, Joel shakes his head quickly, downing the remainder of his drink.
“Too young.” He replies.
“She’s twenty five.”
“Too young.” He repeats firmer this time.
“Okay, fine. What about Michelle? She’s what forty? I was talking to her in the cobblers the other day, she’s definitely interested - mentioned something about making you a pie?”
“I’m good.” He grumbles looking down into his empty glass but quickly shifting his gaze to the bar, you’re leaning on your elbows, laughing heartily with a patron.
You look beautiful tonight - just like every other night. Your shoulders are sunkissed, your cheeks a little flushed and skin glowing from the summer humidity. He absorbs the way your hair tumbles down your shoulders and the way the thin straps of your tiered sundress slip down occasionally, only to be tugged back into place with dexterous fingers.
“Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.” Tommy jibes, Joel looks over with a firm scowl.
“What?” He asks, Tommy shakes his head.
“You can dream, brother.” Joel rolls his eyes, trying to act nonchalant. “She’s got a boyfriend anyway.” Tommy adds, Joel eyes him with full attention.
“A boyfriend?” He asks, trying to be sure he heard right.
“Yeah, overheard her talking to one of the girls in the garden a few days ago. Didn’t mention no names but she definitely said she was seein’ someone.” Tommy shrugged, Joel hummed with interest. “Anyway, it don’t matter because she’s way out of your league.”
“Thanks.” Joel retorts, sneaking one last look before focusing on the door behind Tommy, the one Ellie had not long barrelled in and out of just moments ago.
He wonders about the kittens she mentioned and gulps as he imagines her taking to one with its big eyes and soft paws, his mind is pulled back to a time in April when he’d come downstairs one morning to a sink full of tad poles she’d ‘rescued’ from birds out of the neighbours pond.
Basically, his girl can’t resist animals she deems too vulnerable to leave.
“Scared Ellie’s gonna come home with one of them kittens?” Tommy wonders, reading Joel’s mind.
“Terrified.”
********************************************
The sun is setting in bursts of burnt orange and marigold by the time he leaves Tommy to his own devices at the bar, he hazards a look around as he makes his way in the complete opposite direction to his and Ellie’s house.
He slinks around the back of the school house, slithering through the gap and walking up the winding path that leads to the stables. He climbs the short fence and hops to the other side, his boots kick up the dust from the dirt path and the crickets chirp beneath the skyline.
With one more look around, he opens to rear door to the stables and slips inside, shutting it softly behind him.
Immediately he hears the horses further down huff and puff, he can make out the swish of their tails hitting the walls as they munch on hay, there’s a neigh that is absolutely Shimmer kicking up a fuss about something.
He slopes around the riding gear and sees you leaning against the wall, hands behing your back. You grin.
“Took your time, cowboy. Was beginning to think you couldn’t take the hint and stood me up.”
“Never, honey.” Joel prowls towards you, ready to grab you. “Missed you.”
“You just saw me.”
“Not the same.” He yanks you close like a man starved, you’d shared company less than 24 hours ago but you greet and leave each other like it’s the last time you’ll ever be together. It’s the apocalypse affect, you know that, he does too
This arrangement had been going on for almost two months now, all started by a late night patrol together where you’d shared more about yourselves in an eight hour shift than both of your time in Jackson combined. There was an instant attraction, it was so easy to talk to one another and that’s what you did every single time you were partnered together and it became the highlight of your day. It started innocently and friendship had bloomed, then before you knew it you were sharing a rum laced thermos of tea with him in the bed of a truck and kissing him with reddened cheeks shortly thereafter. You’d first slept together in the same truck, just as dawn began to break. It was clumsy and quick but you couldn’t get enough of one another. You hadn’t cum but Joel promised next time would be better which lead to the question of next time? You’d been seeing each other most nights since.
Any chance you got, you were together. Nobody knew about you both, hence why Tommy was incessantly trying to hook Joel up with other women around town and jealousy burned as you listened in on their one sided conversations in the bar whenever you were covering for Darius.
You’d left the bar shortly before Joel had, waving farewell to him and Tommy, coming straight up here to check on the mare just as you’d told Denton. This was a usual spot to meet Joel, it wasn’t your first rodeo in the stables with him. It was the one place you could be alone after a certain time.
“Were you hiding from me, honey? Hmm?” He growls playfully, pulling you to him even though you were barely a millimetre away in the first place. You hum in response, so utterly lost in him. You’re nuzzling his throat, fisting his shirt, desperate for his attention. “God, you look so good today.” He murmurs, mouth finding yours. You moan softly, standing on your tip toes and kissing him in a way that makes his lungs and loins burn alike. His grey tinged moustache prickles your upper lip beautifully, his beard feels familiar beneath your soft hands.
He’s crowding you and guiding you backwards, kissing you hotly in a sense that makes your cunt throb eagerly. You moan into his mouth when he nips your bottom lip, squeezing the left cheek of your ass.
You love when he’s like this - playful and easy. He feels lightyears younger around you, it’s like the heaviness dissipates the moment he’s in your company. He loses himself in the way you smell, the way your hair feels when his fingers are entwined between the sun kissed strands, the way in which your eyes sparkle with mischief.
It’s easy to pull him towards the back of the stable, where the bales of hay were stacked created a nice wall of privacy. You’d been in here a couple of times with him, having gone as far to stash a flannel blanket in one of the cupboards to lay down as to protect you both from the cold floor and the prickle of loose hay.
Once behind the hay and seated on a bale with you in his lap, strong hands are moving the thin straps of your sundress down your shoulders, you momentarily break away from his mouth to aid the removal of your dress to your waist where Joel roughly bunches it up so that your underwear is now on show and so are your tits.
His eyes light up at your bare chest, like he hasn’t seen your breasts countless times before. One thing among many that you first noticed was that Joel Miller is a tit man through and through. His rough and work toughened hands cup them both gently before his tongue swirls around your left nipple.
“Joel.” You murmur, arching into him, rolling your hips into his. He’s hard already, age not affecting him like that in the slightest. He’s a hot blooded male, every single inch a man and that warms you to your core. You grab his hand, bringing it to the top of your panties and he slides it in without hesitation.
“Christ.” He curses, exploring your lips with his fingertips, gliding through the dewy wetness gathered there and coming back up for a split second to drag it over your clit roughly. You whimper, bucking into his hand. “Mmm, babydoll.” Joel huffs against your cheek in a hot pant, repeating the action.
“Need you so badly, Joel. Almost got started without you.” You confess.
“Fuck. You can’t- don’t say shit like that, honey.” He growls lowly, unbelievably hard beneath you. His fingers explore again, you aid his explorations by canting your hips just so.
Joel is eager to get things moving, he’s hard and frustrated, he has a beautiful woman in his lap and the perfect setting. He pulls his hand from your underwear, looking down to see the shine of you on him. He loses his mind when you take his hand and lead it to your mouth, sucking the tips of his index and middle finger as he watches with eyes blown wide; they look black instead of the earthy brown that sometimes melts into caramel or runny honey.
The minute you hum like a content cat, he has you lifted off his lap and braced against him. You squeal at the sudden shift, the ceiling looking closer than the floor but then he gently lays you back on the blanket and settles between your legs.
“Hey, who was Tommy trying to set you up with?” You blurt, Joel pauses.
“Cath.”
“She’s gay.” You frown.
“Michelle too.” He adds before diving down into your chest, pressing your breasts together, mouthing at the swell.
“I’m not sure you’re Michelle’s type, she’s a cougar apparently.” You remark, Joel ignores you in favour of sucking your nipples until they feel raw. “Why Michelle? I don’t understand why Tommy thinks she’s a good match for you.” You don’t know why this is coming up now, your mouth seems to have a mind of its own, the jealousy settling like lead in your stomach.
“He said she wants to make me a pie.” Joel pipes up, the confession half muffled.
“What kind of pie?” You ask, pulling his face from your tits. Joel groans frustratedly, looking up at you with eyes dark and deadly.
“I don’t know. Why does that even matter?”
“A cream pie probably.” You snarl under your breath, the jealousy swirling in the pit of your stomach like a rattled viper.
Joel laughs, shaking his head and coaxing your mouth back to his. “Gross.” He murmurs, kissing you softly and squeezing your hips as if to guide you back. “You know I only like your cream pies.” He jokes, this time you break into a smile.
“Now whose gross?” You snort, tugging his plain grey undershirt over his head and to the side. You run your palms over his chest and down to his softer stomach, digging your nails in as they drag a long his skin. Goosebumps erupt all over him.
Joel is softer in his older age but strong too, years of walking different terrain, heavy lifting and fighting have made him lean also.
You hum contentedly, tracing over those familiar scars that have been made in the 20 years since the world imploded.
“He said you were out of my league.” Joel suddenly admits, resting his hands on your spread knees. You frown up at him. “Tommy said you were out of my league.”
“Tell Tommy he doesn’t know shit.” You retort with an eye roll, grabbing Joel by his belt and yanking him forward. “I like you, Joel. Fuck what anyone else thinks, it’s not anyone’s business who we choose to be with.” You say softly now, kissing your way up his chin to his lips. “I like you.” You affirm again, Joel kisses you tenderly, weaving his hand into your hair as you moan quietly.
“Well, I like you too.” He says, kissing you with so much passion yet so much tenderness all at the same time as you fumble to unbuckle his belt. You yank it apart, tugging open the button and prying the worn denim apart with the hiss of his zipper.
He barely lets you wrap a hand around him over his boxers before he has both your wrists pinned above your head, you make a sad whine but all disappointment quickly dissipates when he shuffles down the length of your torso and yanks your underwear down so fast you feel the material leave a friction burn. He grabs your thighs and then manoeuvres your legs by the backs of your knees, you like where this seems to be going.
Your spine curves against the hard floor when his mouth makes that first contact, he starts slow with a lick up the length of you, then he lightly suckles your lips and gently licks over the hood of your clitoris.
“Joel.” You murmur, twisting the blanket beneath your fingertips, scrunching it and bitting down on your lower lip as he continues his gentle assault on your clit, the rubber toes of your hi tops dig into his ribs almost painfully.
His thumb comes up to gently push the hood of your clit back, the sensation of his tongue directly stimulating the nerve causes you to gasp and wind one hand down into his hair, you tug and he groans against you.
You’re transported back to one of the first times you’d been intimate together after sleeping together in the truck.
For some reason, it had shocked you that Joel Miller ate pussy like a champ. The first time he’d gone down on you - behind the bar just after you’d blown him - you’d prepared yourself for dissatisfaction and disappointment, only it never came. Joel had licked into you with such ferocity and precision that you’d almost keened over.
He’d made you cum so quickly that you’d barely had time to process the first swipe of his tongue on your clitoris and the climax that followed minutes later.
He’d looked up at you, moustache and beard slick with his eyes wide; ‘I forgot how much I enjoyed doing that’ he’d panted while you squeaked back in shock.
Now, as you live in the moment, you feel that tingle of pleasure building but you don’t want to cum without him inside of you. As much as it pains you, you tug on his hair, urging him back up.
“Wanna cum with you.” You pant when he looks up with dazed brown eyes, frowning a little. He seems to accept that and sits up, shucking his jeans and boxers down over his ass with the help of your clumsy hands. “Lay back.” You demand, he does so and you move to take his place.
You throw your legs over his and settle above his lap, he’s got one arm behind his head and watches as you take him in your first and tease yourself with the flushed tip of him. He breathes in sharply through his nose as you do it again before notching him at the site of your heat, you steady yourself and begin to sink down.
“Fuck me.” Joel sighs, closing his eyes briefly because he’s so sure he’s in heaven. The sensation of your wet heat surrounding him never gets old, he’d forgotten how much he loved sex before meeting you.
“You’re so big, Joel.” You whimper, stroking his ego deliciously and he hates to be such a guy but the compliment goes straight to his dick.
“Fuck, honey. Take what you want, I’m yours - just fuck me.” He begs as you slowly begin to move, your nails scrape across his torso as you fall into an easy rhythm of rolling your hips into his. “You’re so fucking perfect, baby.” He babbles, looking up and admiring the curve of your back and the way your tits bounce as you ride him.
“Mmm.” You whine, picking up the pace and throwing your head back which exposes your jugular and Joel just wants to sink his teeth into you because you truly look good enough to eat.
“Come here, babydoll.” He urges, pulling you down so you’re chest to chest. Your peer at him with pretty doe eyes, your lashes flutter as they shut to kiss him deeply, your tongue swipes his and you taste the tang of yourself on him. You moan louder when he manages to plant his boots on the floor and thrust up into you roughly, tangling his hand in your hair to keep you pressed against him.
It’s so hot in the stables, you’re both sticky and warm. But with your pretty moans and keens filling the air, Joel manages to easily forget the irritation from the heat.
You push against his chest to sit up and Joel grabs your hips, guiding you easily and you feel yourself getting close but you can’t achieve orgasm through penetration alone.
You brace one hand on his thigh behind you, tipping your head back as the pleasure becomes almost too much to handle. Your hips roll in an easy rhythm, his cock head hitting your G spot perfectly and you whine when the hand on your left hip moves ever so slightly until Joel was able to thumb your clit. He knows you so well.
“Oh f - fuck. You feel so good, you’re so good - fuck.” You babble, your hips moving faster.
“Jesus christ.” Joel huffs, throwing his head back against the hard floor, biting his bottom lip hard to stave off his orgasm. You feel so good wrapped around him; wet and snug, like crushed velvet.
He knows he can’t stay like this, he’s too close to finishing and he can sense you’re not quite there yet despite being edged so he makes the conscious decision to hold you and flip you both over with a nimbleness he didn’t know he possessed in his older age.
You stutter out a choked moan, arching into his strong hands. You drag your nails down his toned back, leaving a little spatter of blood in the red tracks.
Joel hisses when your nails puncture the skin on the globes of his ass, somehow trying to pull him closer and push him away at the same time.
“Where?” He asks, nodding downwards as he fights off his climax.
“Inside.” You reply without hesitation. You’d counted your cycle days, marking in a blank notebook the day number and your symptoms, pretty accurately guessing your fertile window and probable ovulation day by cervical mucus alone. You were four days from your period being due, it was safe.
“You sure?” He hesitates, brow furrowed hard with concentration, he’s a stroke away from finishing. He knows better than most people to not trust the pull out method and he knows the importance of contraception but he still ended up a Dad before he hit his mid twenties. Pushing sixty he’s still playing a dangerous game but so far, neither of you had gotten burnt.
“Yeah.” You gasp, fingers on your clit rubbing faster. You groan suddenly and twist into him, making pretty little whimpers and purring. He groans too, thrusting in hard once, twice and then three times. You feel his cock stiffen and twitch, then the pulse of subtle warmth of his cum spreading inside and aiming for your cervix. He works himself through it, you push in return as the aftershocks slow to a flat line.
Joel heaves a breath, resting on his forearms as you lazily kiss his neck in satisfaction and rapture. You sit there for a minute, basking in the afterglow until Joel grows too stiff and has to withdraw from you slowly, kneeling up between your legs to pull his boxers and jeans back up but he leaves them unbuttoned and his belt loose.
You don’t miss the primal look in his eyes when they drift to between your legs, he can see his cum leaking and the pearlescent finish it leaves on your lips. His cock twitches, perhaps if he was younger he could go for another round but alas, he settles next to you on the blanket, pulling you to his chest and cushioning your head with a strong bicep.
“I think that might have been the best time yet.” You pant breathlessly, looking up at the ceiling and seeing the evening sky through the cracks of wood.
“Maybe one day we can do it in an actual bed, I’m not sure how much more of these places my back can take.” Joel jokes, you giggle and turn into him, listening to the rapid pace of his heartbeat as it settles, a perfect mirror of your own.
“Not bad for an old timer.” You tease, giggling when he growls and squeezes your hip.
“Was patrol okay today?” Joel questions you, you nod lazily against him. “You come across anything?” Now you speak, leaning up to peer down at him.
“A couple of runners. We shot them in that abandoned gas station near the entrance to the offices off the trail. I think they were probably people passing through, one was infected on the journey and turned, then bit the other.” Joel hums, rubbing your lower back and hip. “I have some things for Ellie I found, by the way. I’ll drop them over tomorrow. Nothing crazy, just some things I thought she needed.” You say between kisses down Joel’s chest and sternum, your delicate fingers tracing out old battle scars.
“What like?” He asks, catching your hand as it reaches his happy trail, bringing it to his lips instead where he presses tender kisses to your fingertips.
“Pyjamas, underwear and some toiletries. Oh! And get this, a new casette tape for her walkman.”
“What tape?”
“Teardrops.” You grin.
“Womack and Womack? She’s gonna love that.” Joel says, laying back and smiling at the ceiling of the stables, humming the song in his head. “Fuck, I haven’t heard that song in - jesus - years.” He’s frowning, contemplating lost time, the whole concept of time evades him, it never used to at the start but now? It’s one big jumble, his time is defined by events and not a calendar.
“She still playing that one you got her on repeat?” You wonder.
“Yeah.”
“What was it again?”
“Bowie. Heroes.” Joel replies.
“Nice.” You nod.
As you lie there together in an easy silence, content to be together in the quiet solace of the stables, Joel’s mind wanders back to his earlier conversation with his younger brother:
“Hey, er - Tommy actually said something else earlier.” Joel winces at how awkward he sounds and you huff loudly, ready to hear what other dumbass thing he’s said. “He said he heard you say you have a boyfriend or that you were seein’ someone.”
You sit up, frowning down at Joel.
“Okay…” You reply hesitantly, uneasy now. “Am I not seeing you?” You frown.
“No - no! It’s… that came out wrong. I just meant - “ Joel grumbles, covering his face momentarily while you try to will your stomach from not sinking. “I don’t know, I just wanted to know if you meant me.”
“Seriously, Joel? This conversation is going so well.” You say dryly, utterly unimpressed.
“No! Oh my god! I can’t do this.” He groans, realising his mistake. “I’m sorry, that came out so wrong.” Joel apologises, you snort.
“Look Joel, I was talking to Mrs Patterson in the garden and she was telling me about her late husband, saying how lovely he was and how men just aren’t like that anymore. She asked if I’d found anyone and I let it slip that I was seeing someone, I didn’t mention any names and I can totally understand why you’re freaked when we haven’t even had that conversation ourselves. I shouldn’t have assumed this was anything more than sex, I’m sorry.” You annunciate, warm in the cheeks.
“You want to just have sex?” Joel is sat up now, matching your frazzled expression.
“If that’s what you want.” You shrug, taking an interest in your cuticles. A large hand lays over yours, squeezing. You shift your focus to his knuckles instead, tracing out the scars.
“Honey, look at me.” He urges softly, you hesitantly meet his eyes. “I think somewhere we’ve miscommunicated.”
“How so?” You press.
“Look it’s been a long time since I’ve done this, I’m a little rusty. I’m sorry if I haven’t been clear about what we are or what I want us to be, I kinda just assumed you knew and yeah, that’s real shitty of me.” He says sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “But I wanna be exclusive with you, honey. I mean, I have Ellie to think about so we’ll need to go slow just so I can ease her into the change. Is that okay?” He whispers, pressing his forehead to yours.
“That’s more than okay, Joel. I completely understand, I don’t want to spook Ellie either.” You confirm, Joel let’s out a relieved sigh.
“Good - good, okay. We’ll figure it out, baby.” He assures you, nuzzling his nose against yours and kissing you softly.
It’s easy to lose yourself in Joel Miller, you’re swept up in the gruff voice and strong arms, the softness beneath his outer shell reserved for those closest to him.
You’re kissing him back in earnest, he’s reclining to lay back down with you on top of him and you’re sure this could lead to round two or at least head from either one of you, maybe even both.
However, the moment is spoiled when you hear voices creeping closer to the stables. You both stiffen and wait, looking at each other with eyes opened wide.
The voices are getting closer and you decipher it’s two sets, it’s not made clear who it is until they’re walking behind the stables and you can see their shadows slink between the thin gaps in the planks.
It’s Ellie and Tommy.
You and Joel scramble, you yank your dress back over your breasts and pull the hem of it over your ass. Your panties are on the floor and you narrowly dodge Joel’s elbow as he hastily buckles his jeans back up just in time for the door around the corner to open with a shriek of the hinges.
“What if he’s gone out on patrol without telling me? Or maybe he’s swapped with someone and gone hunting? I know I’m back way earlier than he said but he said he’d be home! Do you think he’s left the gate? What if he’s hurt? What if - “ Ellie begins to ramble and Tommy sighs.
“Kiddo, stop worrying. I’m sure he’s around here somewhere, let’s look at the whiteboard and see if his name’s on there. I highly doubt he’s swapped shifts and he wouldn’t leave without telling you, he’s gotta be around here some…” Tommy’s reassurance comes to a stop when he round the corner of the hay bale wall and abruptly stops, staring at you and Joel with as much shock as you return.
Ellie slams into his back and he wobbles but his gaze never falters.
“What the fuck, man!” Ellie exclaims, shoving Tommy and stepping around his statue like form but also freezing too.
You look between them both, trying to formulate an excuse but Joel shoving his t-shirt on, the fact your clothes are crumpled and there’s absolutely hay in your tousled hair says it all.
Your panties are shoved behind your back out of view.
“Well I’ll be damned, you’re the guy she’s seein’!.” Tommy snorts, looking between you both. Joel growls, yanking on his flannel while Ellie manually retrieves her jaw from the floor.
“What the fuck is this?” She asks, looking between you and Joel. “You have a girlfriend? What the fuck, dude? You didn’t say anything!” She fumes, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Look, it’s complicated and new.” He says, which placates her slightly. She stares at you again and you see the betrayal hidden behind a scowl, she looks at Joel again.
“Fine. I guess this isn’t that bad, it could be worse - we could of caught you with Esther.”
“That’s true.” Tommy nods, pointing at Ellie, she nods back.
“Esther?” You question, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah, Tommy’s neighbour, she totally fancies Joel.” Ellie tells you. “You should fight her.”
“No, she doesn’t and stop shit stirring.” Joel warns Ellie, she hides a smirk which tells you she’s winding Joel up.
“I could take Esther.” You say, playing along, Ellie’s eyes brighten with mischief.
“Nobody’s fighting no one.” Joel settles, you’re all silent for a millisecond and then Tommy throws in his two cence.
“You could take Esther.” He agrees.
“Enough about Esther, please!” Joel begs, beside himself.
“This is fucking embarrassing, Joel. What the fuck do you expect us to do? It’s awkward!” Ellie complains, Tommy nods in agreement, you do too.
“Yeah? Try being where we’re stood, kid.” He retorts.
Ellie kinda has to resist the urge to throw up in her mouth because Joel has sex which is so horrifying that she almost can’t bare to look at him but she’s equally happy for him and utterly disgusted, she swallows back a retch.
“Fine, whatever. I’m very happy for you and my da - Joel.” Ellie bursts and corrects herself at the last minute, you don’t miss the hitch in Joel’s breathing but this is not the time for that discussion. “I’m willing to negotiate a price for the emotional damage you’ve both caused me by lying to me, sneaking around and also having sex in front of my horse.” She lists.
“My horse too!” Tommy adds.
“And Tommy’s horse too, Crash and Shimmer didn’t want to see your bare ass.” Ellie continues and for some reason Joel knows exactly where this is going, so he braces himself.
“Name your price.” He bites, Ellie looks at him with a levelling glare, it’s getting hard not to laugh when you see Tommy observing like he’s watching a mafia deal go down.
“A kitten.” Ellie reveals.
He fucking knew it.

"So." Eijiro started as they both exited Y/n's apartment.
Katsuki stayed silent while carrying the sleeping Kazui in his arms along with his things for school.
"She seems nice." Eijiro grinned. "And very helpful." He added as he clicked his car keys unlocking his car.
"Straight to the point," Katsuki mumbled carefully getting in the car.
"Well, you both look close to each other, especially after the news," Eijiro said getting in the driver's seat.
"The news is nothing. They're spouting lies. That's all they fucking do." Katsuki mumbled once again, trying not to wake Kazui.
He's not ready. Not yet. But he sees you fitting to be Kazui's mom knowing how close you were with his son. Of course, he knows him being a single father is fine, but he also knows Kazui will be looking for a mom. Now that he can see other kids being picked up by their mothers.
"What do you think will happen if she saw the news?" Starting the engine, Eijiro slowly drove off of the parking lot.
"The fuck do I care," Katsuki growled lowly. "For all I know she's fucking banging any other guy in every bar she goes to."
He doesn't care.
He doesn't care that they're not officially divorced. He won't accept her back. Not after what she did.
"Hey, that's not how you talk about your-
"She's not my fucking wife. Not ever." Katsuki scowled deepened, but soon disappear when he shifted his eyes to Kazui's peaceful face.
He'll do everything for his son. He'll risk his life if he has to just keep him safe.
"Okay, okay. Sorry." Eijiro apologizes.
"Kazui doesn't deserve to know her."
..
After Eijiro dropped Katsuki at their home, he drove to a secluded area.
His eyes were serious while he focuses on driving. No one knows he's here. Not even Katsuki.
Suddenly, he stopped in front of a dark alleyway and roll the passenger seat's window down.
"Get in." He said.
When the person got in, Eijirou started driving once again.
"You'd be surprised by my intel."
"Tell me," Eijiro said quietly while his eyes focuses ahead.
"Didn't I say she's in the city?"
"Yeah."
"Surprisingly. She got her own home."
Eijiro side glances at him after he what he heard. "We're you able to track her house?"
"Yes."
"Give it to me."
..
“Good morning, class.”
Friday finally arrive. That means tomorrow, Y/n can finally rest.
“Good morning, Miss Y/n.”
But deep inside Y/n, no matter how tiring her job is, she loves children. Maybe it's because of a quirk? Pft. Of course not. Was it? Seeing the children smile after she mends their booboos away makes her feel warm. So maybe it was indeed her quirk.
“Alright everybody, today we’ll do arts!” Miss Y/n smiled cheerfully.
A loud cheer of small voices engulfed the room.
“Be quiet everyone.” Miss Y/n spoke up clapping her hands to settle the children down. “Take out the art materials that I advised you to bring. If someone needs more art materials, come to my table, okay?”
“Yes, Miss Y/n!”
“Okay! Draw your favorite hero and you will show it to everyone.” Miss Y/n said.
She was about to make her way to her table when suddenly, a loud crash was heard from the other side of the room alerting Miss Y/n. The children began crying due to being frightened.
“Everyone, please evacuate the premises. Everyone, please evacuate immediately.”
Y/n’s eyes widen. What is an attack? No. This is not the right time to think about it. She needs to take the children outside. Then another loud crash was heard.
Then a laugh.
Terror and fright were getting ahead of her. She couldn't think straight. Seeing the children crying around her makes her heart clench.
Think.
Y/n let her eyes roam around her classroom. There must’ve been something she can use.
Think.
Her eyes suddenly focused on the windows. So without any reluctance, she rushed towards it opening it wide enough for the children to fit.
“Children. Come to teacher, we need to leave.” Miss Y/n said as gently as she could say. “Everything will be okay. The heroes will arrive. They will save us.”
One by one, she held the children and pass them through the classroom window with another teacher outside waiting for the children. But her eyes went wide when she was missing one.
Kazui.
“Kazui!” She shouted. “Where are you, come here, baby!”
“Miss Y/n. You need to get out!”
“No no! I’m missing one student.”
Y/n was now panicking. Her eyes were scanning the classroom repeatedly. He was nowhere.
“Kazui, baby!”
Then another crash was heard. But this time, it was the classroom door she was in.
She yelped in terror and surprise.
“Miss Y/n.”
Miss Y/n turned her head to her left. There she saw Kazui hiding under her table.
“Kazui!” Instantly she took him in her arms protecting him. “It's okay. Don't cry.” She needs to be strong for him. She needs to protect him. Y/n was frightened as he is but right at this moment, she was willing to give her life to protect Kazui.
“Isn't that the number 2 hero’s son? Well well, ain't I lucky?”
“Ugh. This is so boring!” Eijiro complained as he walk to the pavement with his buddy.
“That just means the crime rate was decreasing, idiot. Be glad.” Katsuki crosses his arms saying this.
“Oh yeah-
Their communicator suddenly started making a buzzing noise. Someone’s trying to communicate.
“Dynamight! The daycare from ***** is under attack!”
“Shit!!”
Not letting the person on the other line finish, Katsuki blasts his way to where the daycare.
Kazui was all he can think of. He can't lose him.
..
“Back off!” Y/n yelled at the villain while carrying the crying Kazui in her arms.
“Ya know. You can just show me where the money is. Every money in this establishment then will be all over. You’ll save the heroes from work.” the villain smirked.
“As if I’d tell you! Heroes will come here and they will arrest you!”
Where was this courage coming from?
“Suit yourself,” The villain suddenly launched itself into her but Y/n was quick to dodge and move away. Although, that movement made her catch her breath.
“Aha. You’re fast.” The villain smirked evilly as they slowly pull a knife out of where.
Y/n watches in fear. She doesn't know what to do.
“Oy? Where's that brave face you were wearing? Although I have to say, that look suits you more.” After what the villain said, they once again launched themselves at Y/n.
Y/n manages to run away though. Why hasn't she thought of running away before?
“Miss Y/n I’m scared!!” Kazui cried out loud.
“I know baby, but we’ll be safe. Your papa will protect us!” You said between breaths.
“Where do you think you're going, doll!?” The villain suddenly appeared behind her.
“Papa!” Kazui cried.
Her lungs felt like burning. She's starting to lack oxygen due to running. But she needs to keep both of them safe. She needs to protect Kazui.
All of a sudden she felt immense pain in her back and it made her slow down.
“Miss Y/n!!”
Was all she heard when she felt another. But this time, she knelt, still holding Kazui tightly in her arms.
You were now panting. Every breath you take hurts you.
“Miss Y/n, no!” Kazui was still crying. He slightly pulls himself away from you to look at you.
You were hurt.
“Miss Y/n heal yourself like what you did to Papa and Uncle Kiri!” Kazui cried as he held your face with his small hands.
“Not so tough now, aren't you?” the Villain sneered watching them. “If only you gave me what I want-
“You! Villain! Just wait until Papa came here!” Kazui cried staring angrily at the villain.
“So I was right. You are indeed the no. 2 son!” The villain laughed. “Where was he now though?”
Kazui was sobbing. He shifted his eyes back to you when you suddenly tried to stand up.
You were facing the villain now. You kept Kazui behind you as you stare at the villain. “I will n-never give you want you to want.” You manage to say.
“Come on now. Less the hassle. But eh. It's not like you can fight me. I can just end you right here.” With that, knives were thrown and stabbed right at your shoulder, stomach, and legs.
Everything hurts. Y/n couldn't believe her life will end like this. She always thought she’ll grow old and just die peacefully. Her thoughts are slowly slipping away. Her vision was darkening and her body was numb. She couldn't feel anything.
Y/n’s body just fell on the floor.
“Maybe I wouldn't mind touching you while this kid watches us, eh?”
“Don’t fucking touch my wife.”
..
Took me a while to do part 8. I'm sorry!

daycare
ellie williams x reader
description: ellie williams is forced to take a shift at a daycare. she knows she’s gonna hate it, that is, until she sees you. 1.9k words
this is very self indulgent cuz i work at a daycare. i’d be so down to continue this storyline if it gets any interactions :)
part 2: https://www.tumblr.com/erooca/725335248989208576/daycare-pt-2
Tumblr media
why the fuck am i here? is exactly what ellie was thinking, pulling into the small, but cheery daycare. it was 9:30 in the fucking morning. she should still be asleep, not getting prepared to run around with little kids for the next eight hours.
after feeling sorry for herself a bit longer, she turned off the ignition and headed into the double doors.
“good morning, ellie!” maria said with a bright smile. ellie almost rolled her eyes at the enthusiasm. maria was sitting behind the front desk, clicking away on the computer in front of her.
“morning,” ellie responded back, a complete opposite from the way maria had greeted her.
“i know i’ve already thanked you a million times, but seriously. thank you for coming in,” maria thanked.
right. the reason ellie was here in the first place. maria had mentioned how the daycare she owned was extremely understaffed recently and needed all the help she could get. of course, joel offered up ellie as help. he said it would be good for her. ellie would have shut them both down, but maria mentioned how much she’d pay ellie. ellie was sold.
“yeah,” ellie responded, still not happy about the experience.
“listen, ellie, as soon as i get some more workers you’ll be free to go,” maria comforted.
“i know. so what am i gonna be doing?” ellie asked, praying to whatever’s out there that she won’t have to change any diapers.
“i think i’m going to put you in the big three’s. it’s a good group of kids, so don’t stress. it’s just down that hallway. second door on the right.”
ellie nodded her head and set off to the room. she already knew she was about to have the most frustrating and long shift of her entire life.
as she walked down the hallway, she admired the kids’ art that was strung on the walls. she noticed more of it around the big three’s door. she took a deep breath, and then entered through the door.
and then she saw you. you were kneeled down, ground level with a little girl who was crying. she watched as you gave the little girl a big hug, and how you helped her focus on the tower she was building with the colorful blocks.
when you finished calmed down the kid, you spotted ellie. maria told you that you’d be having another teacher today, but she never mentioned that teacher would be fine as fuck.
“hey. ellie, right?” you asked.
“um.. yeah,” she answered.
you introduced yourself to her and the room.
“they’re doing centers right now. you should go around and try to get to know some of the kids. once we have circle time, we can do proper introductions. that sound okay?” you suggested.
“sure..” ellie said. you could sense the nervousness radiating off of her.
“don’t stress. these kids are fun to be around. at least most of the time. let me know if you need anything,” you encouraged.
she nodded her head and looked around the room. from what she could see, the centers included music, blocks, art, math, science, and a play kitchen.
of course, she felt inclined to visit the art table first. there was only about three kids over there, and it was a topic she knew pretty well. was she overthinking this? probably.
she took a seat on the uncomfortably small chair in front of the table. immediately, the three kids looked up at her.
“hi! what’s your name?” a girl with short brown hair asked her.
“ellie,” she answered, then realized she should probably talk a bit more, “um what’s yours?”
“pippa,” she answered, putting away the green crayon in exchange for a red one.
“what are you drawing?” ellie asked, looking at the mound of colors on the girl’s paper.
“my family!” pippa smiled, “that’s my mommy, and that’s my kitty kat, and that’s daddy!”
to ellie, it looked more like scribbles of different colors, but nonetheless she praised the girl for her creativity.
she felt a light tap on her arm and when she turned she was met with a shy looking boy. he had black braids in his hair and wore a toy story themed shirt.
“hi.” ellie said to the boy.
“can you draw me something?” he asked, handing her his blank sheet of paper.
“okay..” she said, taking the paper from him, “what should i draw?”
the boy thought for a minute, “ooo, i know! a dinosaur!!” he said, excitedly.
this request made ellie’s smile grow. of course she could draw him a motherfucking dinosaur.
“what’s your name?” she asked him.
“king!” he replied, awaiting his dinosaur.
as she drew, king watched intently, and once pippa noticed ellie was drawing, she started watching too.
when ellie was finished, she gave it back to king.
“woah!!! it’s a t-rex! i’m gonna color him green!” he said.
“ellie. can you draw me a mermaid?” pippa asked her.
ellie obliged and soon she had a good line of kids asking her to draw things for them.
as she was working on her third princess drawing, she heard you singing the clean up song.
she didn’t have chance to admire how beautiful your voice was before the kids started singing along. the three year olds started cleaning up their messes and ellie helped them out.
you had them gather on the carpet, where you finally introduced ellie as their new teacher (for the time being). you watched as ellie awkwardly smiled and you had to hold in a laugh.
after doing a couple songs and shit with the kids, they all went outside and played on the playground.
you took this opportunity to talk to ellie.
“hey, so, how you liking it so far?” you asked her, curiously.
“i thought i’d hate it, but it’s actually not too bad,” she said, glancing over at you with a smile. you swear you almost passed out right there.
“haha, yeah. it can take a second to get used to. you’re lucky they didn’t put you with the two year olds. those children make me want to quit my job,” you laughed, “so you know maria?”
“yeah. she’s sort of my- aunt-in-law - i guess?” ellie said, trying to find the right words.
“really? tommy must be your uncle then. gonna be honest, maria scares me,” you admitted.
ellie laughed, and your heart skipped a beat.
“pretty sure tommy feels the same way. she’s not bad once you get passed the cold exterior. how long you been working here?” ellie asked, intrigued to know more about you.
“about a year. its just a steady job while i’m in college,” you answered.
“you’re in college. where do you go?” she asked.
“jackson state!”
“no way, me too. you on campus?”
“yeah, campbell north.”
“no fucking way-“ ellie said, but caught herself, “shit-SHOOT, no freaking way. i dorm there too.”
after you laughed at her slip up, you continued your sweet conversation with her. you felt like you’re falling in love with her by the second, and little to your knowledge, she’s was feeling the same way.
“do you have any favorites yet?” you asked.
“um.. i like king. he’s sweet,” ellie answered, thinking back to the dinosaur drawing.
“yeah. he’s really smart too. he’s actually in the foster care system and can be a bit sensitive about it. try not to mention moms or dads around him,” you told her.
this struck a chord in ellie. she had been in foster care a long time before joel came along. she knew exactly what it was like for king. she hopes he will be as fortunate as her in the future.
when the time came, you and ellie corralled all the kids back into the room. there was a cart at the front of their door that had lunch on it. you explained to ellie that you guys will have to make the plates and then hand them out, same with the milk.
you passed out the plates to each kid who was sitting down at the small tables, while ellie came behind with the bowls of food, placing a nice scoop on each child’s paper plate.
you went to start pouring the milk but soon got distracted. you couldn’t help but watch ellie as her lean figure slid around the room. you liked the way she kneeled down when a child was asking her a question, acting as if that child were her equal. you studied how her hair was sticking up a bit on the sides, probably from being outside and running around with the three year olds. most of all, you loved how she was smiling. how it seemed that she was enjoying herself. the beautiful curve up of her lips was enough for your heart to beat at a rapid pace.
you snapped out of your trance when you saw ellie look up at you. you flicked your head away before she could catch you staring (even though she definitely did and you knew it too). you started actually doing your job and pouring the milk for your children.
as the day went on, ellie was very fond of learning more about you. you both spent nap time learning new things. when ellie told you how much she loved space, you told her how you thought you could be the first person to pluto as a kid, since it was your favorite planet. you guys talked about your favorite constellations and which ones you spot first. you told her how much you liked to read and shared your favorite stories with her. you asked what maria was like at thanksgiving dinner.
you were sat together against the wall, just chatting. the lullaby music played on the tv. the lights were off and curtains were closed. the three year olds were all asleep. ellie was all to yourself right now. you were so starstruck with how easily your conversation flowed. she sat with her knees up, resting ur arms on them as she looked at you. you could see glint in her eyes, even in the dark room. it made you like her even more.
once the kids woke up, it was less talking and more working, much to your disappointment. the rest of the day went by smoothly. you did a fun craft with the children that they enjoyed, and ended the day with tv time. once the number of kids got lower, maria came in to let ellie know she could go home.
“well. i hope all these kids didn’t scare you off. will you- be here tomorrow?” you asked with a hopeful look on her face.
ellie chuckled, “some of them are a bit scary, but they didn’t. i think i will be here tomorrow, but only so i can see you again though,” ellie smirked.
once her words sunk in, your cheeks turned a blushy color. no way the new, hot teacher just flirted with you. you stammered a bit but regained your ground.
“looking forward to it, ellie. have a good night,” you smiled brightly.
ellie have you a slight smile and a wave before walking out the door. you let out a breath you hadn’t realized you were holding. holy shit were you in deep.
ellie joyfully said bye to maria, earning her a weird look. she felt on cloud nine as she walked to her car. the day went better than she could’ve ever expected. she was already making a mental list on ways she could win you over.
maybe this daycare job won’t be so bad. is exactly what ellie was thinking as she drove away.

-Just a Few Scratches-
pairing: xavier thorpe x reader
word count: 4.36k
warnings: injury/blood
desc: you get injured trying to solve xavier's problems for him. silly you :)
a/n: im having a field day writing all my fic ideas :)) can't decide if the next one will be another xavier or wednesday
edit: pt 2 is now posted! 🦭
Tumblr media
"fuck, fuck!" xavier yelled, sprinting across the field of pine needles before him and leaping over bushes and rocks.
cold sweat dripped down his flushed face; he could feel tears sting the back of his eyes. xavier felt like he could puke as he ran, but only one thing occupied his mind:
"(y/n)!"
> > >
-5 hours prior-
“are you doing okay, xavier?" you ask with worry. after class you had to stay late to ask the teacher something, so it was a surprise when you found xavier sitting on a bench in the hallway with his head in his hands.
he jolted. looking up, he seemed tired. really tired. you noticed the purple bags under his eyes and the way his breathing appeared to be unsteady.
xavier tried to smile, but it instantly fell off his face when he met your gaze. he bit the inside of he cheek to keep salty tears from spilling out of his eyes.
"I... " he began, but it came out as a strangled sob.
the sight of his pitiful state filled you with worry, and you picked up your pace as you sped over to him.
standing in front of xavier, you ask, "have you been sleeping? you look like a wreck."
xavier laughed at this, quickly wiping away a tear that dared to escape, "yeah, i know. I'm just.." he looked down, "I'm just really stressed."
you stepped closer and he pressed the top of his head to your stomach, refusing to look at you as he loosely wrapped his arms around your waist.
you began to move your hand to pat his head, but hesitated. "can i...?"
without hearing the rest, xavier said, "please."
this consent allowed you to weave your fingers through his hair. "do you want to talk about it?" you asked in a low voice, afraid that somehow, despite the hall's vacancy, someone would hear this sensitive conversation.
he was quiet for a few moments, considering his words.
"it's... wednesday. i'm so, so tired of her- of her blaming me! always saying i'm a mass murdering monster! it fucking hurts and she keeps finding new evidence that genuinely makes sense, " his voice is strained as he tightens his hold, "but i can't do anything to convince her it's not me. and she even found my art studio, which just makes me look worse."
seeing him like this made you want to cry, but you restrained yourself because this wasn't about you; this was about xavier.
"i'm so fucking scared that she's going to get me locked up. i can't even blame her- all of the evidence points directly at me! and these nightmares, they plague me in my sleep and i wake up screaming and then i can't go back to sleep so i've just been painting that fucking thing so i-" his rambling is cut short when he hiccups through his frustrated tears. he felt angry and hurt and afraid.
you leaned down to hug his head, pushing his face into your tummy as he sniffles. "i'm sorry, xavier. i wish there was something i could do."
xavier looked up from your (now wet) shirt to say, "just listening is enough. don't worry about it, hopefully everything will fix itself soon."
and as he rested his head once more, an idea came to you.
there's a way to help xavier.
> > >
three knocks and wednesday was ready to order thing to strangle the person at the door.
she lifted from her desk, about to tell off the perpetrator for interrupting her writing time. when she opened the door, however, she recognized you as the person that xavier constantly follows around.
"enid isn't here," she said point blank, beginning to shut the door. you stick your hand out and risked amputation to make sure it doesn't close, "actually, im here to see you."
wednesday narrowed her dead eyes, "go on then. explain."
"i need to know where the hyde's lair is."
wednesday's facial expression didn't change, but you could tell she was confused.
"why don't you ask xavier? he would know."
the fake smile that you wore to feign being nice dropped. instead, you replaced it with a tight, irritated line on your lips.
"haha, yeah, i would. yknow, if he were the hyde. but here i am, asking you. why do you think that is?" you said all this with a lighthearted tone through clenched teeth.
wednesday could read the passive aggressiveness of your words but decided to press on, "try looking at his gallery of police evidence. that would give you the answer you're looking for."
with that, the door closed and you soon heard the sharp clicks of a type writer. you knew she was talking about xavier's art studio, but he hasn't allowed you in since people started dying around the school.
you decided that the only way to enact your plan would be to sneak into the renovated shed. sneaking in you could do, but distracting him for enough time to find something was completely different.
fuck, this is gonna be hard.
> > >
in the end, enid was your best bet. your plan was for enid to ask him for help on a subject and get him to tutor her for a bit in the library.
she agreed immediately, hoping it would also make ajax jealous; it was a win-win situation.
though, when she asked, you would not tell her why you needed her to do this in the first place. she was skeptical but trusted that you were doing it for a good reason.
finding the studio was easy, you had been there so many times that you knew the trail like the back of your hand. you were xavier's rock after his breakup with bianca, so it made sense that he'd commonly invite you to paint with him in his secret hideout.
when you made it there, you took no time to begin searching every single art piece for a deeper meaning. xavier mentioned that he was having nightmares about the foretold monster, but wouldn't allow you to see the art "for your own safety".
there was nothing of value on the walls and canvases, so you turned to plan b.
you bent down to the trash, fishing through it, hoping you'd find something important. about ten pieces of paper had been uncrumpled by the time you found something worth your dumpster diving.
"there it is!" you excitedly whisper-scream to yourself.
it was a drawing of the monster in front of a familiar cave. though its name and exact location eluded you, there was someone who would know those exact details.
later, after asking eugene if he knew anything considering you'd seen him working alongside wednesday on the investigation, you set the final steps of your plan in motion.
it is here that you will find out who the hyde is, if only to relieve xavier of his stress.
> > >
"enid, we've gone over this topic, like, ten times. i think you're just a lost cause," xavier said in exasperation. he had been attempting to teach enid the different geometrical formulas but she hasn't understood a single word he's said in the past two hours.
xavier, giving up, grabs his phone off the library table to check his notifications.
"huh, that's weird."
"what?" enid asked.
"(y/n) hasn't texted me. usually she'd have sent several messages asking to hang or something by now," he frowned, his expression a dark overcast.
enid, feeling something was off, finally broke, "uhm, well, (y/n) kind of asked me to distract you. im not really sure what for, but she did mention something about an art studio?"
xavier's heart lept in his chest. "what?"
"yeah, sorry, i felt she had a good reason but now i'm a little worried, " enid replied with an awkward laugh.
he wracked his brain for any reason that you might have had to go to his studio. a surprise? was she curious about the paintings i wouldn't let her see? why would she need to sneak around to do it?
instead of searching for an answer that wouldn't come to him, xavier stood from the table, gave a small "thanks", and left the library in a hurry.
at the studio, he found nothing amiss. none of the paintings were gone and nothing had been moved.
that's what he thought, however, until he saw the trash can laying on its side in the corner of the room. kneeling, he sifted through the scattered, unfolded papers.
his eyebrows knitted together in further confusion. what is missing?
then it hit him:
the drawing of the hyde's lair.
xavier didn't know exactly what you were up to, but he knew with every fiber of his being that it was definitely dangerous. he was absolutely terrified.
the doors burst open as xavier ran out of the studio, an unwelcome gust of wind blowing many of the drawings off the walls. at that moment, he couldn't have cared less.
a mirage of trees passed him by as he sprinted. the nighttime autumn air was far too cold for the season.
"fuck, fuck!"
the words were strangled and every noise around him felt muffled; all he could hear was the crunching of the leaves beneath his racing feet and his own hammering heartbeat.
"(y/n)!" he shouted, the distress in his voice echoing back at him.
xavier slowed to a stop, unable to tell where he had gone in his desperation to find you. he took a second to breathe when a shrill scream sounded from an unknown direction.
the scream of a girl. a girl who was horrified, or worse, in danger.
and he would know that voice from anywhere. it was someone familiar; someone close to him. the person most important to him.
"(y/n)! where are you!?" he yelled in response, but the forest had turned into something akin to a funhouse mirror maze and he couldn't tell left from right.
xavier heard footsteps running toward him at a high speed, and just as he began dash in the similar direction, you came into full view.
pain spread through his chest as you slammed into him, sending you both crashing to the moist soil beneath.
you were laying on top of him now; shaking with labored breaths.
it rook a moment for xavier to process what had happened, but he wrapped his arms around you with little delay.
"you- are you okay!? what were you doing!? are you stupid!? there's a fucking monster on the loose and you-"
he shut his mouth when saw a steadily growing red patch on his shirt.
"you're bleeding! oh shit, we need to get you back to nevermore fast," he was quick to hold you, your body laying bridal style across his arms.
you winced in pain, sobbing out the words, "i'm sorry. i'm sorry xavier, i just wanted to help. i really wanted to help. i'm sorry."
xavier didn't give a shit about your apology. he wasn't mad at you. he was mad at that thing that hurt you. he was fucking furious.
he had many, many things to say to you but for now, he'd let you rest in his arms.
he then headed back in the direction he had come from, you now tucked safely in his embrace.
> > >
once the final stitch was in, xavier was allowed to visit your hospital room.
the bright white lights made him feel sick. even more so when he saw you sitting in bed with a hospital gown and an IV drip in your arm.
the moment he walked in, you gave him a warm, content smile.
"is right now really a good time for you to be smiling?" xavier questioned, sitting on a seat next to the bed.
you held the hand that he placed on the edge of the sheets, "well, i was able to achieve my goal."
"at the cost of several pints of blood and a couple scars on your arm? what was worth that?" he asked, unrestrainable anger surfacing on his face.
though, when he took in the finer details of your state, he couldn't help but soften. many scrapes graced your skin from the collision earlier; the complexion of your face much paler than normal.
rubbing his knuckles to ease his frustration, you say, "i was able to convince wednesday that you're not the hyde. how could she believe that out of all the people you could attack, you'd attack me?"
something clicked in xavier's head and it all made sense. this all started after his breakdown in the hallway, caused by wednesday's meddling. the sneaking around, stealing his drawing and going off into the woods.
"so you did this on purpose? you scared me half to death!" he bursted, his emotions a flurry of love, anger, and guilt.
"so what if i did? it's just a few scratches."
god, he loved you. could you believe he had yet to even ask you out?

everything's alright now
jujutsu daycare pt. 1
Tumblr media
just yuji and megumi taking care of nobara when she falls and scrapes her knee at daycare
“It’s okay to cry, you know?” Megumi mumbled as he watched Nobara’s lip wobble, her gaze stuck to the floor just enough for her to ignore the scrape on her knee.
She sniffled hard, tiny shoulders scrunching up to her ears before speaking. “Why would I cry? It doesn’t hurt,” she grumbled, taking a chubby fist up to her face to wipe at her snot.
“KU-GI-SA-KIIII! FU-SHI-GU-ROOO!” Yuji's voice boomed louder as he ran closer, arm raised to the sky. He came to a halting stop, making sure not to tumble over his friends as he sprinted towards them. “I got… the bandaid… from Gojo-sensei…” He panted.
As soon as he caught his breath he knelt down in front of Nobara, handing each piece of garbage to Megumi before sticking the bandage on his friend. His tongue peeked out through his lips, eyebrows knitting tightly as he tried to keep the plaster from sticking to his fingers.
“There!” He pulled back with gleaming eyes when the bandage was thoroughly tacked to Nobara’s knee, though a bit haphazardly. “All better! At least that’s what Nanamin tells me, but I know it still stings a little.” Yuji smiled as he stood upright, earning a small nod from Kugisaki.
A sad type of silence hung over them, the children stuck in place, Megumi eyeing the tear in Nobara’s skirt and stringy rips in her tights. “Ieri-san has our spare clothes in her office, let’s go.” He said stoically, his concern only showing through his actions. Despite Nobara’s complaints they threw her arms over each of their shoulders, supporting her on their way to Ieri’s office, their acknowledgement of her limp harbored quietly in their heads in consideration of her personality.
“Don’t forget to tell your parents to pack a new set of spare clothes next week, okay?” Ieri reminded as she squatted down to Kugisaki’s height, ruffling the girl’s hair before pulling three lollipops out of her white coat. She passed the candy out to the children, a reward for Kugisaki’s bravery and the boys’ help. Their eyes shone at the sweet treat, their sadness dissipating.
“Let’s rub it in Gojo-sensei’s face that we got candy,” Nobara grinned mischievously, scurrying with her best friends in tow, giggling about how jealous their teacher would be and how they had no plans of sharing with him.
+
Bonus:
“You’re an adult, Gojo. Go buy one for yourself,” Shoko sighed as she packed up for the day.
“Why should I?! You have one in our pocket, I can see it!” Gojo whined, “I was brave today, too! Look, I got a papercut during art time!”

hi zoe! after your last ellie post... i can't stop wondering about how your ellie and abby were like when they were in highschool. i fully believe ellie got side bangs bc she wanted to look like chloe price. (she looked like justin bieber)
anyways i love you (not in a gay way ofc.)
-penis cat anon
omg i had so much fun thinking about this!! i love you too but in a gay way because i'm gay. i'm sorry to have to tell you like this in front of all these people 😮‍💨
and no actually i think ellie wanted to look like justin bieber :) i can see her being a fan ngl. she looks like she has the weirdest gender envy and justin bieber would've been like her dream body to be in when she was 14
as for her as a student i think i've mentioned this before but i think ellie loveddd history so much! i can also see her being really good at math but not even realizing it. art class was okay but she likes to do art at her own pace and IF she feels like it so i think she would've hated assignments. like don't tell her what to do!! she's only picking up a pencil if she wants to!!! otherwise she's putting no effort in, so sorry about it
socially i think she was the kid that gets adopted by the nice pretty girls because she's funny!! they love her <3 i can see her not really having very close friends until she's older though! i feel like she was more closed off than she would like to admit for a really long time, but she's way better now. it's a work in progress!
abby as a student is like fascinating to me. i could think about it for hours. i think the obvious thing is that she was really incredibly, amazingly, annoyingly good at everything. but she's so cool!! how can you hate her? she has one best friend and speaks to literally no one else but if you drop your pen she'll pick it up for you, you know? that's abby
but she's so mysterious like i can't even tell you what her favorite subject was!! and i don't think she knows either like she's just naturally a good student and by the time she's high school age, she just views all of it as simply the steps that lead to the next thing (she's had a life plan since she was 7) (it's written in pink crayon) (her dad has it framed). but that doesn't mean that she hated school! she has lots of fun with her friend and grows a really lovely connection to sports and makes sooo many significant bonds with her teachers. she thinks about them sometimes and writes them really nice emails that could make grown men cry
and yeah there were like 85 people that had a serious crush on her but if you went to high school with her and bring it up she'll be like "???? what do you mean??" she's silly <3 i can talk about her forever and i think it shows, my bad :)

Having so much brain rot abt teacher Mumscarian so I’m gonna throw it at you lovely citizens of the inter webs:
- Grian is the part time art teacher who subs a lot at the school.
- Mumbo is the tech teacher who everyone is a little afraid of before they get to know him and realize he’s just a tall, intimidating goofball.
- Scar is an architect who is known for 2 things: Amazing architecture and his cat who he manages to mention in every single conversation regardless of topic. You could be talking to him about geothermal heating and he’d find a way to work in Jellie in something that made complete sense in the moment but was utterly bewildering upon reflection.
I accidentally wrote a fic, so here you go!:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grian sighed, heading to the main office to check his mailbox after a long day. He passed his sister, Pearl’s desk, on the way and paused.
It was utterly wrecked, piles and piles of papers decorating it. She was so stressed out at dinner last night…
He sat down. She could owe him for this one. He sorted through the papers, finishing the easy ones and making neat piles of the rest.
It was nearly 9 now, he was going to be late for dinner, but he knew Mumbo was finishing up some work- a student had wrecked their project in the rain by accident so he was painstakingly assembling a replica for them so they didn’t fail the class- so he wouldn’t be home for a while, either.
Mumbo’s love for his students was a big part of what Grian loved about him- it was hardly the first time Mumbo had gone far, far out of his way to help one of them- once he actually drove all the way to a student’s house to talk them through a project that would make or break their grade after they called him crying.
Partially to distract himself and partially to annoy Mumbo, Grian pressed the button on the intercom. Everyone would be out of the building by now, so he wasn’t worried about annoying anyone.
“Main office to Mumbo Jumbo, how are you, dearest?”
It only took a couple seconds for Mumbo’s reply. “Grian?! How-“ Grian could hear Mumbo’s smile in his voice, “You almost made me drop the whole project! I’d have to start from scratch!”
Grian laughed. “Sorry…”
“No you’re not.”
“Nope!” Grian grinned into the mic, squinting at the page in front of him. “Did you go to the assembly today?”
“Yep… had to go to the first one and the third.”
“The presenter was so hot.”
Mumbo laughed. “Seriously, the man was way too attractive for his own good.”
“And his cat was the cutest.”
“No, the cutest was how much he loved her.”
Grian grinned. “Okay, you’ve got me there. And his eyes, too.”
“What about them? I wasn’t close enough to see.”
“They were like this really vibrant shade of green- I’ve literally never seen someone with that color eyes before- and it perfectly complemented his suit too- I wondered about the maroon until I saw his eyes…”
Grian slowed his ramble, and Mumbo clearly noticed but didn’t say anything.
“Anyway, yeah, he was so hot.”
Mumbo laughed. “I’m nearly done here, but I have a lot of clean up to do, so I’m gonna go for a bit.”
“Okay! I’m just tidying in the office, so I’ll be here when you’re done.”
“Love you, Gri.” Mumbo said over the intercom, and Grian grinned, turning it off with a quick “Love you too.”
—-
Grian had finished cleaning Pearl’s desk and had moved on to his own papers when he was interrupted by the door opening.
“Ready to head home, babe?” He asked, not looking up.
Someone cleared their throat. “Sorry, just wanted to let you know I’m leaving…”
Well that definitely wasn’t Mumbo. Grian looked up.
“Oh.” His face was definitely burning. “I- sorry, can I help you?”
The man in front of him- a taller guy in a wheelchair, wearing a maroon suit with a cat snuggled into his lap. Grian drew his eyes up to his face, which was currently doing it’s best to color match the suit, to meet those startling green eyes.
“I’m Scar.” The man offered, rolling toward the desk. “Do I need to sign anything or can I just go?”
Scar’s voice was smooth, but his red face betrayed how flustered he was.
“Nope!” Grian squeaked.
“Hear that, Jellie? Time to go.”
Grian watched Scar’s rapidly retreating chair, cursing his bravery for what he was about to do. “Wait! There is something I need you to sign.”
Scar’s head turned quickly. In moments, he was in front of the desk again. Grian shoved the paper he had just written at him.
Scar read it, eyebrows raised. “This is a… non-disclosure agreement?”
“So you don’t tell everyone about what you overheard.” Grian explained, blushing.
Scar’s face stretched into a classic salesman smile. “Oh, but what if I want to tell someone?” He rolled closer. “I can think of a few things I’d like to say.”
Grian, stupidly, raised his chin at this. “Oh yeah?”
“How about, ‘Are you single?’” Scar asked, equally confident.
Grian frowned, pretending to ponder the question. He leaned forward, face inches from Scar’s. “I suppose that wouldn’t be a breach of contract…”
“Perfect.” Scar breathed. Grian started to lean in. Scar sat back in his chair, teasingly. “And what about the other fine fellow on the line? Would it be imprudent to ask about him as well?”
“Oh, not at all!” Grian grinned, sitting back in his seat. “In fact, I could call him right now, see if he has any objections to our little contract.”
“I think that would be quite appropriate.”
Grian turned on the intercom. “Mumbo Jumbo to the main office?” He turned it off again, leaving no room for Mumbo to protest.
“And now, would it be a breach of contract to suggest, say, dinner?” Scar asked, eyes gleaming.
“Actually, Mumbo and I are going for dinner soon… any objections to Thai?”
“That sounds amay-zing!”
It was that moment that Mumbo walked into the main office, tugging a backpack on wheels behind him. Mumbo stopped in the doorway seeing Scar. Behind Scar’s back, he mouthed to Grian “He’s been here the whole time?!”
“Ready to go?” Grian replied, standing and gathering his things. “We have a date.”
“Sorry, what?”
This Is Me Trying (Doctor Strange x teen!reader)
summary: you received your report cards with bad results and you don't want your dad finding out about it.
warnings: hurt/comfort, bad grades, mint choco (?), strange is a good dad (lmk if I missed anything)
a/n: this is definitely not a self indulgent fic i projected myself onto.
Tumblr media
You slammed your door shut before sliding against it, bringing your knees close to your chest. Heaving out your breath, you pull your report cards to your lap after crossing your legs, looking at them with sorrow in your eyes. You're not sure why you're sad and upset when you should've seen it coming the moment your teacher looked down at you with a frown on her face.
"Your grades dropped." You blanked at your teacher's statement, processing the information.
"Oh," you breathed out after a beat.
"Almost falling, hun." A sigh escaped the lady's lips, she clasped her hands in front of her on the desk. "What's gotten into you, Y/N? You were a bright kid. Gifted even. I don't want your potential to go wasted just like that. You could go to one of the best universities –"
The rest of it was blurry. You couldn't focus on your teacher's lecture as your head felt like being in a giant ringing bell. You cautiously re-read the cards in your hand. It was littered with C's, a few B's, and a D. If you could wish for a miracle, you'd wish you could change them before your father sees it. You ran your hands through your hair roughly, dropping the papers as a result.
Being enrolled in a widely known school filled with future geniuses has its perks. Especially when you were a child of two famous surgeons. Expectations were a friend you made inside your mother's womb and they'll follow you until your dying days. Then your dad became the sorcerer supreme, and then the universe was at stake, and then you got blipped, and when you came back your mother was presumed dead. It all happened in a blitz. All of a sudden, you're living in a new era, and people are adjusting. You are adjusting. Yet you never quite remember when does adjusting felt this hard.
You were great. Oh boy, were you great. You were always at the top of your class– at least in the big 3. A good friend and student. The perfect child. Your parents didn't force you into being one, no, it just happened. Since the first time you got first place in your kindergarten and people praised you, you felt the need to keep it up. You were so ahead of the curve that it became a sphere, and now you ended up falling behind your classmates. Focusing was hard, the tests were hard, and you barely even made any friends after going back to school after the blip. Plus, you've been taking mystical arts lessons from your dad. You were too busy trying to clean your rusty wheels.
A gentle knock pushed you out of your thoughts. "Kid, you're in there?" Your father's voice broke in.
"Yeah," you answered. When did your voice become so hoarse? You didn't even notice tears rolling down your cheek, which you quickly wiped before opening your door that reveals Stephen Strange leaning on the doorway. "What's up, dad?"
Stephen furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you okay? Were you… crying? What happened?"
You mentally cursed yourself. He doesn't know about it yet. Your dad asked if you wanted him to come with you to take your report cards, but you denied it and said you'll be fine. Thankfully, he wasn't stubborn like he always was on accompanying you and said he'd go to the store instead and hadn't returned yet when you got to the sanctum.
You shook your head. "Nope, why would I be?"
The former sorcerer supreme peeked through your figure that blocked the door and saw papers on the floor. "Is that your report cards? How was it?"
Before he could go on more, you closed the door behind you. "It's, uh, nothing you should worry about." You offered him a tight smile.
"Are you sure?"
"Yep. I'm fine. So, could you please go somewhere else? I gotta do something."
"You sure you're alright?" Your father asked once again, only having you push him away from your room in response.
"Yeah, yeah, totally."
Anyone could've been fooled by your smile and words, but Stephen was your father, he knew something was wrong with you. So he opens his mouth to speak again. "No, there's something wrong, I know there is. You sure you don't wanna talk about it?"
"I'm sure, dad. A hundred percent sure." You emphasized every word in the last sentence.
"Really? You know you can tell me the truth. Was it your report cards?"
"No, dad, I'm fine! Just go, do you hear me? I don't wanna see you now! Just– just leave me alone… please." You didn't realize you had been screaming until you saw the surprised look on Stephen's face. Retreating to your room, more tears stained your eyes as you left your father frozen in his place.
Tumblr media
Pacing in his chamber, the sorcerer's mind traveled to exactly an hour ago when he had a little argument with you. It's no lie that he's worried about you judging by the look on his face. His parental instinct wanted to knock on your door again and make you feel better like any parent would, but he decided to give you space, no matter how worried he was.
After the death of your mother, who won child custody back then, you immediately got swooped under Stephen's wings. It wasn't hard to warm up to him since you already spent time together often before the car accident he had which led him to protect the world. You even met Christie Palmer, your father's lover back then. You went through the grief of losing your mother with him. Though through the grief he did, he no longer loved your mom as much as you do, but you don't blame him for that.
On the other side of his door, there stands you with clammy hands gripping a sheet of paper with your grades written on it. You didn't think it would be a good idea to tell Stephen about your report cards. He, like any other, probably would just be disappointed in you. But you don't like lying to your dad, especially when he's the only person you have left (aside from Wong, whom you had been getting closer to). You couldn't stay mad at him, and you had no right to say things that could hurt him. Mustering up your courage, you brought a hand to knock on the door.
Stephen opened his door right before you knocked on it. "Y/N?" he asked softly.
You pulled your hand back to your side. "Dad," was your reply. Neither of you said anything, just eyes looking fondly into one another's. "I, uh… I'm sorry for yelling at you… and lying to you," you said thoughtfully even though you were holding back tears. Pushing the papers to his hands, you continued, "you were right, it was my report cards. It turns out that I almost failed this semester." You watched Stephen read the paper in his hand, not even changing his expression in the slightest. This made you bite your lip out of habit. "But don't worry! I passed! I just… I wasn't on top of my class, far behind, actually. I know you're disappointed –"
"Who said that I was?" Stephen cuts you.
A sigh escaped your lips. "No one. I thought you would be since anyone else is." That's the truth. You could see that your teacher was disappointed in you, and the look on your classmates' faces just screams disappointment.
"Kid, you could never disappoint me," Stephen exclaimed, a small yet visible smile on his face. "Adapting to a new life isn't an easy task. I know everything seems to go so fast, believe me, I've been there. Yet you're able to survive to this day. Not everyone could, y'know."
You lowered your head, averting your gaze to the floor so that your dad won't see your tears. "I'm trying. All I want is to get my old self back. To be a bright kid again so that I could make you proud."
Stephen frowned when he heard your confession. His large, gentle arms pulled you into a side embrace. You cried silently against his chest, a hand covering your eyes whilst another was around your abdomen. To say Stephen Strange was an affectionate person was something arguable, but there's no denying that he loves his child to bits and won't stop reminding them of it.
"You'll forever make me proud, little star. Don't forget that." A kiss was planted on the crown of your head. "I'm sorry I was being persistent as well before. I should've let you tell me when you're ready."
You rolled your eyes. "You being persistent is something new?"
The sorcerer chuckled shortly. He pats your back as you wipe your tears, smiling alongside him when you break the hug. "Since you know I am persistent. Let's go to our favorite ice cream parlor." Stephen puts an arm around your shoulders and drags you along to the front door.
You narrowed your eyebrows. "Why would you need to be persistent to ask me to go eat an ice cream?"
"Because you, child, are my offspring," said your dad, opening the front door and bowing mockingly. "After you."
Playing along, you bowed back, earning a smile from the man who soon placed his arm around your shoulders again, walking with you instead of dragging you this time. "What flavor shall we get today, my child?"
"I do not possess the knowledge, dear father. What do you think we shall taste today?"
Stephen hummed. "How about mint choco?"
You snorted. "You mean the toothpaste?"
"Hey, it's good!"
"What's good about eating toothpaste?"
"Don't act like you've never eaten toothpaste before."
"Well, it's not like I did it on purpose!"
"Oh, you will."
"What do you mean I will?" Your question was met with a smirk. "Dad, what does it mean?"
"The last one who arrives at the parlor gets to eat toothpaste on purpose!" He quickly says before running through the street.
"Hey! Wait for me!" Wasting no other second, you zoom toward where your dad is headed.
Tumblr media
"Enjoying the toothpaste?"
Stephen turned around to see you raising your eyebrows while licking your favorite ice cream. "No thanks to you." He glared at you as you happily took the seat next to him. His nose scrunched when he took another bite of his ice cream. "This thing actually tastes like toothpaste." A sigh of defeat was exhaled by the former sorcerer supreme.
You punched the air in victory. "And the winner goes to… drumroll please," you cued your father who lazily starts to drum on the handrest. "Y/N Strange!"
Your dad ruffled your hair, causing you to protest for ruining it. Stephen couldn't help but smile at one particular memory that flashed through his head. A memory of you two sitting on the same bench, eating the same ice cream from the same parlor years ago. He realized that it has been quite some time since the last time the two of you did something like this. The last time you were just a kid, barely even a teen. When did you start growing up so fast?
"Thank you, dad." Your voice pulled him out of his thoughts. "For being proud of me, for cheering me up, especially for letting me win."
Your smug smile was being returned with a poke on your stomach. Stephen only laughed when you scooted away from him a bit. Nevertheless, you scooted back after feeling he won't tickle you entirely.
"Anything for my dearest demon child."
So are still open to older!Harry one shots because hears one…
Older!Cop and/or Firefighter Harry and plus size! Teacher Reader and she’s helping the kids calm down because there was a fire or a suspicious person or package on school grounds and then goes to her asks if she doing ok (btw they are already dating or something) sorry if isn’t good or makes sense
I’m sorry it took sooooo long :)
The school had to call the firefighters because there was a fire in the chemistry lab, the primary school was next to the High School, and they had to get out too. They don’t want the fire to spread.
Y/n was calming down the kids who were crying, she was hugging Amanda, who is a shy kid. She doesn't really talk, when they have art, she is concentrated on the things she’s doing right now. Once she gave a picture to you.
Your boyfriend is a firefighter. He makes sure everything is okay.
Harry was looking for you, and he found you on the other side of the schooyard. He saw you talking to a little girl. His smile gets brighter every second he looks at you.
“Thank god you’re okay. I looked for you for at least ten minutes,” he sighs with relief.
“Hey,” he looks down at you. You grab her by her armpits and lift her up and she rests on your hip. She hides herself in your neck.
Hi h,” she smiles slightly. She’s still busy with Amanda. She pecks his lips for a moment. The kids around her yelled ‘ew.’
“Are you okay? I know it wasn’t— but I have to make sure you’re alright.” He smiles, Harry is a few years older than you. He loves to take care of you.
“I am, but Amanda is still shocked,” Harry takes her into his arms. She looks confused at her teacher. Harry’s smile is big, and so is y/n’s she loves to see him with kids.
“I’m Harry,” he smiles, “You don’t have to cry, it was just a little fire. Were you scared of the sound the school made?” She nodded her head.
“You’re fine and Ms. Y/l/n is also fine. If you hear that sound again. I’ll check on you after I’m done working. How does that sound?” Harry’s voice is a bit higher than usual. He always does that when he’s talking to kids, he doesn’t wanna scare them with his deep voice.
“Good, thank you, Harry,” she wraps her arms around his neck.
•••
The next day she made something you weren't allowed to see. At the end of the lesson, she gave it to you. “Please give it Harry,” she smiled shyly. She's in first grade and you didn’t care right now to correct her.
“You can do it yourself,” Harry waited in front of the class until you were finished teaching. He stands up and walks into class. He kisses the top of her head. Amanda hides behind her teacher's leg.
“You wanted to give something to him,” Harry knelt.
“I don’t bite,” she walks slowly forward toward Harry. She hands him her picture.
“I drew you and y/n and also a cat who you were saving.” She didn’t have a problem with the kids saying her first name.
“Thank you, that’s so sweet of you,” she smiled shyly. As she looks at the door she sees her dad.
“Daddy,” she yells. “I gave this nice firefighter my picture,” she points at Harry who’s looking at her dad and Amanda.
“Is he the one from yesterday?” She nodded her head.
•••
“That’s so nice of her, did you ask her to do that?”
“No, I wasn’t allowed to see it until the end of the lesson,” Harry puts the picture on their fridge.
“Whatever happens, don’t cry.”
Aelin snorted. “Are you telling that to me or yourself?”
It was a joke, but deep down she didn’t know. Maisie was power-walking ahead of them, carrying her bee-themed rolling backpack herself. Something squeezed inside Aelin’s chest just to think that this bag was nearly as tall as her toddler when the handle was up.
Rowan squeezed Aelin’s hand. “I’m not forcing her to stay if she cries.” He gave her a firm look. “One tear, she’s back home. We can try again next year.”
She squeezed his hand back. “She won’t, okay? Maisie has to learn how to be in school.”
They were soon in Maisie’s designated classroom, the teacher was outside to greet the kids and their parents, while her assistant watched the kids who were already inside.
After greetings and introductions, the teacher turned to Maisie. “There’s some other kids in this room, and we’ll have a lot of fun together, okay?”
“‘Kay.” Then Maisie took her father’s hand and pulled him into the classroom.
“Mais,” Rowan’s voice was pained, and he crouched to be eye-to-eye with his daughter. “your mom and I won’t come in with you, okay? We’ll pick you up in a few hours.”
The little girl patted her dad’s cheek. “Daddy, are you sad?”
“No,” he lied, “it’s just my allergies.”
For Mala’s sake. Aelin pinched the bridge of her nose. Rowan had his back to her now, but she just knew he broke their promise to not be emotional about this in front of their daughter.
Maisie hugged her dad. “Daddy, you can't be here, but I’ll tell you if I discover a new game."
She quickly hugged her mom too, grabbed her bag, and hurried inside the classroom, but stopped at the door’s threshold.
“Bye!” She waved at her parents. “Tell Fleetfoot I’ll be back to play catch.”
And just like that, she was out of their sight.
Aelin caressed Rowan’s shoulder. “Do you need a moment?”
He was staring slack-jawed at the door. “Did you see that?”
“I did.” She pressed her lips together, blinking back tears. “We’re raising a very independent little girl.”
Rowan let out a fond sigh, sneaked a hand around Aelin’s waist and led them out of the school.
Amazing experience
Tumblr media
Budo Masuta x fem!chubby!reader
Not proof read so if you see errors use ur brain
You made it to the martial arts club, You’re not sure who you’re looking for but from the flier it was someone named Budo. You take a deep breath and fix my skirt as you open the door to 5 people training.
“Welcome to the Martial Arts Club! What brings you here?” A man, around 5’8 with black hair approaches you. “Uhm hi. Imr looking for someone named…” you look at paper double checking the name on the flier. “Budo Masuta?” You hear a chuckled come from the black haired guy in front of you. “Well, that would be me. And you are?” He looks at you waiting for your response. “Y/n” you respond nearvously. “It's nice to meet you, y/n. And I assume you wish to join the Martial Arts Club?” He asks you with a standard enthusiastic tone he always has.
“Y-yeah” you stutter in response. “Excellent! I always welcome more members to our club. Do you have any experience in martial arts, or would you be a complete beginner?” You pause for a moment before answering “no…im a beginner”. “Don't worry, we'll start you off slowly. That should give you a good foundation to work with, and then you can always advance as you improve your skills!” He smile at you. It makes you feel warm inside, how a complete stranger is being nicer to you than anyone in the whole school has. You begin your classes with Budo until the bell rings for class.
You walk to your class when you see and you and Budo are both in class 3-2. As you sit down in class, you see that Budo is already seated next to you. He glances in your direction and smiles, then turns back to the front of the class.
“The first 6 digits of pie are 3.14159” you say answering the question. “Correct y/n” the teacher congratulates you. “It seems you know a lot about pie don’t you, fatty” Musume comments from the back of the class, giggling as some of the people in the class also laugh a little.
Budo glances over at you and notices you’re much less confident than you were before. He shoots a dangerous glare at Musume. She immediately shuts up and faces forward, visibly shaken.
Class bell rings again and everyone leaves to lunch. You pack up your stuff but Musume had stayed. You notice the rest of her friends walking into the classroom. *what the hell are they gonna do now?* you think to yourself.
Just as you ask that, you turn around and is faced with a little pig that got thrown at your face. You don’t even worry about yourself you worry if the little pig is alright as it squeals and runs away. “OMG Y/n! It’s your twin ahahaha” Hanna yells and they all laugh and walk away. You burst out into tears and run to the zen garden.
Once you arrive at the garden to calm down you take a seat at one of the benches. You hear footsteps come up behind you, and you can sense someone approaching you from behind as your breathing slows down. *Oh no, it’s probably them again. Please stop, don’t come any closer* you think, you brace for an impact but you feel a soft hand on my arm.
Budo is standing behind you. He looks worried when he sees your wet cheeks and red eyes from crying. You feel his hand squeeze gently. “Hey...are you alright?” He asks you with a worried expression on his face. It was embarrassing for you, for him to see you like this. You didn’t know how to respond, so you turn away and curl into a ball and continue sobbing.
He kneels down and rests on the ground beside you. He pulls you close to him and gently pats your back as he tries to comfort you. “Shhh, everything will be okay. I know it's tough right now, but just try to hold on and let your emotions flow naturally. I promise it gets better” . Those comforting words proved to you that he wasn’t here to judge you.
“Why do I have to look like this?” You ask softly, trying to hide your body. “Why do so many people find time out of their day to tell me what’s wrong with me?” You sigh out of exhaustion. Budo gives you a reassuring gaze as he continues to hug you.
“I don't think there's anything wrong with how you look. Yes, you may have a few extra pounds on you, but that just makes you more beautiful in my eyes. There's nothing wrong with having a little bit of extra curve, it just shows that you have a healthy amount of energy and nutrients. Musume and her friends are just jealous of your natural beauty.” He comforts you rubbings circles into your shoulder.
The bell rings to go back to class as I stand up and just him as tight as I can. Thinking about how no one had ever said that to me before. “Thank you” I say feeling more tears fall. Budo smiles warmly, angles your face to face his and gently wipes away your tears with his thumbs. “It's no problem at all, really. Just try to keep your eyes dry. I'd hate for your pretty face to be stained with tears” he giggles as he smiles at you.
This was the moment you realized you were in love with him. The man that actually care about you unlike anyone else. We both walk back to class together and I sit down, instinctively putting my bag on my lap hiding my stomach. Budo noticed this subtle act and notes it.
As the day comes to a close and you make your way to the gate, you hear footsteps approach you and you sense someone approaching you. “Hey y/n, I just wanted to ask you about one of the math problems from class today. I didn’t really understand it” Budo speaks to you, obviously trying to make an excuse to walk you home, but you don’t mind. He walks beside you discussing the problem bruh you reach your home.
You feel his hand fall to the small of your back as you two walk together, this brings butterflies to your stomach. Budo glances down as you walk up your driveway. The sight of you fills him with so much emotion. The way your soft cheeks glisten in the sunlight, the gentle sway of your hips as you walk, the way your cute little Akademi uniform clings your tummy, everything is just perfect. He waves goodbye to you as he walks to his own home.
That night you thought of making Budo a fresh batch of cookies as a gratitude gift. The next day, you walk into school and spot Budo walking in with the rest of the martial arts club. “Hey Budo!” I say waking over to him.
Before he could say good morning back I speak “thank you for protecting me yesterday. I-I brought you some fresh baked cookies. You don’t have to eat them if you don’t want but I just wanted to do something ni-“ your rambling is interrupted by Budo putting his hand on your shoulder. “Thank you for the cookies, but you don't have to buy me anything. I'm just doing my part as the Martial Arts Club leader. And I was only being a gentleman by accompanying you home; it's something that I'd do for anyone” Budo states as he continues to walk into the school.
“id do that for anyone”, those words ran in your head all day. Was what he said and did back in the garden, just because he felt bad for me? Did he not actually like me the same way I liked him? Was all of his actions just him being friendly? There was so thoughts in my mind.
Today, you decide to keep your distance from Budo so that you can clear your head and make some sense of your feelings. Budo noticed that you were avoiding him,but he didn't make an effort of contacting you. He just thought that you didn’t want to talk to him because of this morning. As you sit alone, you're filled with mixed emotions, excitement, frustration, uncertainty.
Your school day concludes and you walk to the gate like you always do. Still compressing the thoughts, but then you hear footsteps behind you. You can tell it’s Budo, because… well who else would it be. But his footsteps sound fast.
You turn around to feel his lips crash into yours with a passionate kiss. It sends a jolt of butterflies through your body as you melt into Budo's embrace. His hands caress the side of your face as he kisses you. It's like all your negative feelings are being erased, leaving only pure, blissful happiness.
You break the kiss as you look at him, this kiss lingers on your lips, almost tasting the sweetness from where his lips touched yours. “I've wanted to do that for so long... You're so beautiful.” He states, tilting his head a bit smiling at you.
Why now? Why all of a sudden? He was so distant a couple hours ago, why does he think this is the right time? You look away from is gaze with a concerned look. You can’t understand why all of a sudden he’s showing you affections after being distant all day.
He noticed this body language and takes a step back. “I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable, I should have asked before I did something like tha-”
“nonono! You didn’t! I- I just didn’t think you liked me the way I liked you” you meekly say adverting his gaze. He smiles and exhales as he moves closer, “Oh, honey... I've always thought you were so cute. You don't think I kept following you around because I hate you, do you? I thought you would have put two and two together by now, but I'm guessing you didn't pick up on those hints” he awkwardly smiles.
You make eye contact again but slowly look someplace else. “I just didn’t think someone like you could like someone…like me. The whole reason why I join your club is because Musume and her friends told me to lose some weight” Budo's expression widened hearing your wirds.
*flashback to before you met Budo*
“Ahaha y/n! Don’t you think you should lost some weight you fat pig” Hanna Daidaiyama comments walking by you. “Don’t you think you need to re-dye your roots bitch?!” You angrily snap back at her. She frantically looks around as she walks towards you and pushes you to the ground. “Yeah, but unlike you, I know how to fight” she says as she walks away.
You stand up and amidst yourself off, walking to the stairs of the first floor you see a post o Brie wall “Martial Arts Club! Come show off your self defense skills and learn new ones!” Those seems like exactly what you need. You rip the poster off the wall and go straight to the class
*back to present time*
Budo pulls you into a hug. “Don't let anyone tell you any different: you are beautiful. Those bullies were just jealous of your beauty, and they took it out on you just because they had some personal problems to deal with. I know you've gone through a lot, but I swear to you that everything is going to change. From here on out, none of that bullshit is going to happen again.”
You feel tears fill your eyes to this. You finally found someone who loves you for you, who doenst want to change you. “T-thank you Budo” you sob out.
He smiles as he wipes away your tears with his thumb “Oh, my sweet little angel~” He kisses you on the forehead and wipes a few more tears before gently placing his hand on your cheek. “I'm so happy that you're mine now” he tells you warmly as the smile grows wider and brighter than ever as he stares into your eyes.
You both walk home together and this time, when you get to your doorstep, you invite him into you house. Since your parents are out on a business trip it was just you and your dog “do you want to come inside?” You asks gesturing at the door. Budo face lights up as he nods ands walks inside. He follows you inside the hallway. He pets your dog softly, then smiles warmly as he turns to look at the inside of the house.
You both get to your room as you walk to the closet to change. YIY close the door and walk out in a hoodie and some shorts. Budo couldn’t stop staring at you as you sit on the bed. “Do you wanna watch a movie?” You ask him with a light blush on your cheeks, he smiles and agrees.
Budo curls around you tightly as he rests his head against your chest. Your soft, warm body is incredibly comforting, and he feels completely at peace. He wraps his arms carefully around you, and pulls you into a tight hug. He kisses your forehead.
“I guess listening to Musume actually did do something good for once hmm~” you exhale softly as you adjust your position to be more comfortable. Budo laughs at your comment and gently strokes your hair as he rests his head on your chest. “I guess that’s one thing to thank her for. I couldn’t be happier than I am right now”
You shifted your weight so your on my side, letting out a soft groan to the movement. Budo picked up on the slight noise and it sends shivers down his spine. He begins to caress your body more intimately, stroking your hair and running his hands along your side. His touch feels heavenly, and you could almost feel the heat coming from his palms.
You turn again to face him and lean in to a kiss. Budo wraps his arms around your waist, returning the kiss. Holding you tightly against him as he kisses back with all the passion in world. He then movers you up onto his lap in a quick movement.
You are surprised at his strength as no one else was able to move you like that before. His lips are warm and tender, and they feel like heaven as they make contact with your own. You feel your body heat up with excitement, and your mind becomes clouded with pure ecstasy.
Your hips begin to unconsciously start rocking on his groin, making his breath hitch. His hands start to roam your body going from your thick thighs and ending on your lump ass.
As you continue to ride him he throws his head back “Mmm~” he melts a deep moan escape his lips as his hands grip your ass tighter, urging you on.
He begins to take off your shirt when you put your hand over his go stop him “Budo are you sure about this?” You ask letting my insecurities get the better of you. “I-I just don’t want you to be… disappointed” I look down in shame. His hands go to my chip and it leads me to connect with his lips once more. “I love you and your body, there’s nothing about you that will disappoint me” I gives you a smile.
Grabs your wrist firmly, pulling your hand away from his “You are beautiful the way you are and II’ve every inch of you. You're perfect exactly as you are.” He reassures you as he continues to undress you.
His hands start to move your pants down to expose your stomach. He pecks kisses all over your body. Once your bottom parts are exposed, he kisses you deeper, his hand gently caressing your bare thigh, moving closer to your already wet pussy “You are so beautiful” his eyes hold yours as his hand moves further up your thigh, making you shiver from anticipation and desire.
He inserts two digits inside of you. “Oh my, looks like you wanted this as much as I did~” he says getting more hard by the minute as he pumps two digits in and out of you. You take his pants off as you start pumping his already hard cock in your chubby palm. “Ahh~ damn you good” his laugh turned into a moan as he continued to pump into you, now adding a third digit and hitting deeper.
Budo groans loudly "Fuck~, I can't take this much longer~" he breathes heavily as his hips buck into your hand. He feels his orgasm coming over him as he lets out a loud moan as he comes onto your hand. his whole body shivers as his breath hitches.
His eyes widen when you don’t stop pumping and you lower your plump ass onto his cock and begin moving. “W-wait wait wait! Ah~ fuck~” he moans out loud joy expecting you to overstimulate him.
As you continue to bounce, he in clasps your bra letting your heavy breasts fall and bounce freely he reaches up to cup your breasts and his mouth goes to your right nipple "You are so fucking beautiful right now," he muffles into your breast, his hands falling to your stomach massaging it slowly.
You couldn’t believe the amount of praise you were getting from this man in the moment. it was too much for you to handle. “ahh~ fuck Budo!” You yell out as you come to my climax and squirt over his cock.
He watches in amazement, watching the liquid seep out, feeling your tightness release around him “Oh my~” He whispers as he feels the warmth of your climax cover his cock, it's something he's never experienced before with another person.
His words snap you back to reality as you see the mess you made around you. “B-Budo I’m.. Fuck I-” before u ou could spew out your apology, he kisses you softly, “Don't worry about it honey~” he soothes, pressing his lips to the curve of your neck as both of your breathing patterns even out. “It was incredible”
You lean on his chests as you two both fall into a soothing sleep. Feeling each others chests rise and fall.
Flaws
Janis ‘Imi’ike x fem! reader
Warnings: fluff, angst. coarse language, quarrelling. Implied/slightly described messy home life
In which, Janis has always been reader’s source of love and comfort. Through the pretty and the ugly.
I’m on the incredi-coaster. Some days I am on the highest of highs, huffing chocolate-chip cookies, and, other days, I liiiterally want to jump right off
— Auli'i Cravalho, 2023
I like making myself emotional apparently 😁
“Are you okay?” Gretchen asks in a quiet voice, studying your face closely.
No.
“Yeah.” You shrugged, focusing your eyes on the whiteboard and teacher at the front of the room.
“You alright?” Regina shot you a look, “What’s going on with you? You’re not yapping about like you usually do.”
“No, nothing.” You replied dismissively. Why’d she notice anyway?
“y/n, what…what are you doing? You’ve got the answer wrong.” Cady mentions.
“What?” You snapped out of your trance, shaking your head slightly as though to get rid of the unwanted thoughts. “Oh, shit. I’m sorry- I just-”
Just felt like crying, honestly.
“Maybe you should sit this one out.” Aaron says, “You look a little pale, are you sure—”
“Yeah, why the heck not?” You cut him off, grabbing the dodgeball and then threw it back to him.
Your day was going…alright— arguably.
“y/n, what is going on with you? I literally called for you twice and you just stared at your food.”
“I’m fine. Just tired, Damian.” You plopped the fork back onto the tray.
You spent half your school day without Janis since you both had, essentially- the same classes but at different times. After lunch was art class, where you’d see Janis for the first time since she picked you up from your house. “Hi, baby.” She presses a kiss to your cheek before taking her usual seat in class. You sat down beside her, your mind drifts back to last night’s useless quarrel with your Mom and Dad.
Janis was watching, you could feel it. But you continued looking straight ahead at the front of the room. You couldn’t lose it now, not after you’ve tried so hard to keep it together and you weren’t about to just…give up.
"Okay." Janis' voice pulled you back, "We're ditching, let's go."
"No." "Yes, come on. Before Mr. Riley gets here." She insisted. Next thing you knew, you were being led out of the school by Janis and into her Mom's car. She'd texted her Mom to come and pick the two of you up, and she did. But quickly left the house after you two'd been dropped off to go run errands.
"It happened again, didn't it?" Janis asked knowingly while shutting her door.
You scoffed, avoiding eye contact with her. Janis sat down beside you and carried on speaking, "I told you- you don't have to pretend with me. You do enough of that every fucking day, trying to care for your sisters, your Mom, yourself."
Damn, she really was always listening whenever you'd vented to her.
"I'm sick of it, you know? Have to re-parent myself, gentle parent myself- it's ridiculous. They made me this way and yet I'm the one doing all the work? While whatever's made me like this is still happening?" Your voice quivered, you sniffled, got up and walked to a corner of her room to avoid having her see you like this. Upset, teary, weak.
Janis saw a side of you that everyone else failed to see: the little girl inside you pleading to be loved and cared for instead of being picked on or dismissed. Or having every little flaw of yours scrutinised. Every time after you'd poured your heart out to her, you brushed it off as 'being in a mood'. But she doesn't. Janis knows it means something and has been helping you all this time. To undo the damage that's been done to little you. Janis allowed you to express your emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, excitement, anxiety, disgust...all of it. She's never once held you back but instead stayed along side you while you did what you needed in the moment, felt what you needed to feel in the moment. Janis knew every little quirk of yours like the back of own hand, she knew what made you happy, and what made you not so happy. She knew exactly what to do in any given moment which has made you feel like her burden. Which...you'd expressed in passing but she didn't agree. Janis immediately shut you down. But you insisted, saying it wasn't her job to fix you.
"y/n- listen to me. You are right, it's not my job to fix you- to fix any of this. But as your partner and someone who loves you, it is my responsibility to help you grow into a better person- a better version of yourself. You don't realise that so I'm telling you my point of view, okay? You've helped me too, you know that? You've made me less blunt, more patient...things that I weren't before I met you, y/n. It's not just me putting in the effort, you are too. I see how hard you're trying...to break the cycle and that's so important to remember in moments where it doesn't feel like it."
Now was one of those times...but you couldn't fight what you were feeling. Those emotions you've tried so hard to work through were all boiling back up. But still, you bit back those tears. And it physically hurt.
————
The more eager you seemed in avoiding looking at her, the more eager she was in walking up to you to make you took at her in the eye. "Why do you even love me?"
'What the fuck.' Janis thought to herself. That was honestly her first thought and what she wanted to say but she stopped herself, taking a deep breath instead, "You cannot choose who you fall in love with. And I don't have just one reason why. It just feels right, like it's meant to be." Janis slowly walked up to you from behind, "You don't see yourself the way I see you and it hurts me that you hate yourself this much. You're doing the best you can, baby. I see that, but please listen to me now, okay? Let it go, you need to let those tears go. Stop holding it in, it's okay. It's okay to cry."
Oh, what the hell.
You really just let go of the tears you've been swallowing all day long, falling limp in her arms as you choked on a sob. Whatever happened last night was anything but new, but it always upset you and brought you to a shitty place. Eventually, her back hit the wall and you two slid to the floor with you still safely in her embrace. She's witnessed worse, but this doesn't cause her invalidate your emotions. Janis would never do that to you- she never has. Janis loved you - every part of you. It's been clear since day one, nothing fazed her but what you had to go through all your life only angered her, wanting nothing but the best for you.
Janis had days like this too, and you were there for her without a second thought. Nothing mattered more than making sure she knew you were there for her. When you were in her shoes, you do it without even thinking. But whenever you were on the receiving end, you never could take your own advice or words that you so earnestly gave to your girlfriend.
Right now, was one of those days where you felt like jumping right off. Nothing felt worth it, everything you fought and worked for seemed futile. You, felt like shit. But Janis, no- she was a fucking saint, so damn patient and loving and it scared the shit out of you to have seen and experience the stark difference in her personality in public and in the safe walls of home...that side of her was as real as it was a show for self-defence. You never did experience love like this till Janis came into your life. All your life, you learnt that love had to be earned. That love was smashed glasses, broken walls and slamming doors. Absolutely nothing like what you could've imagined it to actually be and it terrified you.
Hurt in private, shine in public. Right?
You stop eventually, feeling nothing left inside of you anymore. It's not like you were a loud crier by any means, but it just went on for several minutes and the more sober you felt, the more you kept thinking that you should just...stop. Even with her whispering words of assurance into your ears over and over, her telling you she loved you.
"Do you wanna stand?" She asks, both her hands cupping your cheeks. You just did, not giving her a verbal response. Sighing, you went into her bathroom to freshen up then changed into a set of clothes that were hers. Wordless. Not another word came out either one of your mouths as all of this was carried out. Because she knew you- that's how you worked. You climbed into her bed, and she does the same, spooning you as you felt yourself relax further under her touch. Your arms rested on hers as you gave her hands a squeeze, hoping she got what you meant. She did, of course she did. She knew what every little gesture meant. Janis could read you like a book.
You two dozed off for a little while, and when you woke up again you were expecting a bitching headache- which did start. But eh, you'd be fine. You felt better after letting yourself feel what you needed to feel. Both of you acknowledge whatever's happened prior to the nap, but moved on with your day focusing on anything but that. That was done. While you were curled up on the couch, Janis threw a frozen pizza into the oven along with the last bit of chicken tenders, she said. Again, you did not say a thing but she knew you were listening. You were the one who requested the pizza after all.
You two've gotten the routine done and that's what mattered on days like these. You knew she loved you and why, but when emotions were running high, a lot of crap tended to be said. A little bit of love, patience and peace went a long way in these times. "Janis." You looked at her, she looked back at you, "Thank you. I love you." "Anytime, baby. I know you do. I love you, too." Janis said back, running a hand through your hair while you had your head in her lap now, "We're doing just fine."
You ended the call with your commanding officer and stared at your phone. You felt your heart in your chest slowly sinking as guilt washed over you. You loved your husband and your sweet babies so much, but you were demanded so much in the military because of your role. As a demolitions expert, you were needed to save many lives and clear zones for safe travel.
You gripped your phone tightly and let out a long heavy sigh. You left your office and made your way to Levi in the living room with your two little ones, Evan and Lilly. You smiled softly as your kids laughed with Levi as they sat on the floor together playing and talking about you. You loved this image and you loved them so much. You wished you weren't needed so much and you were thinking of talking to your commanding officer of possibly changing your role to something closer to home.
"Honey?"
You flinched at Levi's concerned tone. You locked eyes with his perfect steel blue ones and instantly smiled when love filled your body.
Levi stood up and approached you. "Everything okay on the phone? You look upset."
You lowered your head as the guilt began to spread. You hated that you were leaving your husband and kids yet again. You knew it had been getting hard. You knew Levi loved you with everything he had. You were scared that maybe this was going to be much.
Levi stopped in his tracks and said your name sternly. "Again? Really?"
You looked up at his soul crushed face. "Levi."
"Don't Levi me." He stormed past you and made his way into the kitchen so you wouldn't have this talk in front of your kids. "This keeps happening."
You followed him into the kitchen. "I'm sorry, but my role is important."
"Aren't there other people trained like you?"
"Yes."
He turned to you. "Well, why the fuck aren't they going?"
"They need me."
He looked defeated. "We need you," he said your name with a heaviness in his heart. "We need you here. Your family needs you. We miss you so much it hurts."
You welled up. "Don't you think I know that? It's so fucking hard for me to go out there and be apart from the man who is my soulmate and my darling babies. I wish I was here all the time." You rubbed your tears away. "I want more kids too."
Levi's shoulder dropped when he watched you cry and try to rub your tears away as fast as they were falling. He wrapped his arms around you and kissed the side of your head. He slowly swayed with you. He closed his eyes and hoped his adoration and unwavering dedication and love for you seeped into your body.
Levi pulled back and cupped your face. "I'm sorry I snapped, but you've gotta stand up to your commanding officer. I know you've been thinking about moving." He kissed the end of your nose. "Maybe you should talk to him while you're deployed with him, okay?"
You sniffed and nodded. "I will. I swear I will. I want to be moved to a closer location. I'm happy to be a teacher. I'll train new cadets."
"I think that'll be a great idea."
You wrapped your arms around Levi's neck and kissed him. "I love you, Levi. I will do everything I can for us to be together more and I can be a mother to our sweet babies."
He massaged your hips and smiled. "I can't wait."
You hummed. "I better get ready to go in a few days."
"Can I help you pack?"
You shook your head. "No, I'll be all right."
On the days leading up to your leaving, you spent every waking moment with your two kids and husband. You went to parks and fun places, played games at home, slept under the stars, and made a fort in your home. You wanted to leave your family with wonderful memories and you wanted them also.
You held your bag in your hand and fought tears as your transport waited for you. You knelt before your kids, hugged them tightly, and showered them in kisses. "I will miss you both so much! Make sure to video call me with daddy as much as possible, okay?"
Evan nodded. "Yes, mummy."
Lilly whimpered. "Yes, mama."
You stood up and hugged Levi tightly. "I'll miss you so much."
Levi squeezed you. "I'll miss you too. I'll call you every night."
You kissed him and smiled. "Good."
He blushed and handed you a brown envelope. "For you."
You frowned a little. "What is it?"
He smiled. "The kids drew you some pictures. You're their hero."
You welled up. "Oh god, I can't cry." You cleared your throat. "Thank you so much, Evan and Lilly. I will treasure your drawings."
Levi whispered against your ear. "I'm gonna send you something special tonight of me."
Your cheeks burned as images fluttered through your mind. "Oh...oh I can't wait." You giggled and kissed him. "I'll see you soon. When I come back, I will have good news about being moved." You waved as you walked to the car. "Love you all!"
LAMCE CRYING AFTER RECEIVING HIS FIRST FORM OF POSSITIVE REINFORCEMENT FROM AN ADULT AND HE DIDNT GET ANY AS THE YOUNGEST CHILD SO HE COVERED IT UP WITH FALSE BRAVADO
MY BOYYYYY THIS HITS CLOSE TO HOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
-----
"Mama mama mama!!!!" Lance ran into the room where his mom was sitting, holding up a piece of paper. "Look what I did!" He held up his math test from the day before, presenting a 90% written in red at the top.
His mom grabbed the paper, looking at the grade and the answers he got wrong. "90 isn't bad. Make sure you review the answer you got wrong and make sure you understand it okay?”
Lance took the paper back from his mom, "okay mama."
---
Lance gripped his color pencil tighter, he hated shading colors, it was by far his least favorite lesson in art class. He looked at the picture he was drawing, it was an attempt at a sunset. The yellow and orange were not blending nicely, it was an abrupt change. Not what the teacher wanted.
“How are you doing Lance?” The older person leaned over him, their eyes scanning his paper.
Lance sighed, “not good. I can’t get them to blend smoother.”
His teacher hummed, “don’t be so aggressive when you hold your pencils. Start over if you can’t blend it out. Okay?”
Lance nodded, dropping the pencil on the desk, “okay.”
---
“CONGRATULATIONS VERONICA!!!” Lance pulled on the confetti popper in his hand, noisemakers and other confetti flying into the air.
The entire family was back in the childhood home, congratulating Veronica on her acceptance to the Garrison.
Veronica was grinning from ear to ear as she moved around the party, not even making it two steps before she was stopped by somebody to talk.
“I’m going to get into the Garrison. Just you watch,” Lance held onto his plastic cup tightly as he watched his sister.
“Get your grades up son, it takes dedication to get into that school.”
Lance stared down into his cup, “okay papa.”
---
“Do I need to remind you that the only reason you’re here is the best fighter pilot in your class got upset and flunked out?” Iverson leaned down in front of Lance, his voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard.
Lance swallowed around the lump forming in his throat; trying to ignore the sting burning behind his eyes.
“Get out of my sight. And bond with your team!”
Lance borderline bolted out of the room. Hiding under a pile of bedsheets on his bed, he wanted to go home. He couldn’t make it here.
---
Lance moved through his life with a smile on his face and his shoulders squared back. He made sure to never let his negative emotions be the main focus of his outward appearance.
He was an over-the-top flirt, shooting his shot whenever he could. He was constantly smiling, cheering people along, and being his happy-go-lucky self.
He didn’t let people see the small frowns that formed on his face when he was given advice on how to do something better. He didn’t let anyone see the tears that fell in the shower as he tried to rationalize that he had a place in the world and he contributed to things.
He didn’t let anyone see the side of him that wasn’t his fake confidence or him smiling through everything.
Being part of Voltron was good for him. They really were a good team. And Lance got complimented, usually by being grouped with the team but it was still nice to hear “good job” from someone that wasn’t Hunk or his age.
Lance stared down the scope on his rifle, slowly moving it as his target paced back and forth. The entire mission relied on this shot.
If he missed the entire ship would be alerted and they would be in an all-out battle. If he succeeded, no one would be alerted and Pidge and Keith could slip in undetected.
He took a deep breath, holding it in his lungs as he double-checked his aim. He quickly released his breath, his finger squeezing the trigger at the same time.
A muffled shot rang through the air and his target collapsed onto the ground; unmoving.
Lance took another breath, trying to shake the nerves from his body. “Got him.”
“Good job Lance, I knew you could do it.” Shiro’s voice crackled through his helmet. “Pidge, you and Keith need to start-”
Lance tuned his leader out. His portion of the mission was done, he simply needed to wait for Allura or Shiro to come get him when they had a chance.
He felt the tears on his face before he realized he was crying. It was slight at first. One swipe from the back of his hand and his face was cleared. But the tears kept falling.
He wasn’t sobbing but no matter what he did he couldn’t stop himself from crying. I finally did something right. He slumped down against the wall he was camped out by, letting his gun rest on the ground beside him. I did something right.
The black lion landed in front of him a couple of minutes later and Lance picked up his things before entering the lion.
“How did the mission go?” Lance prayed Shiro didn’t hear how his voice cracked on the words. That he didn’t realize he was crying only a couple of minutes ago.
“Success.” Shiro began to pilot his lion back towards the castle, Lance sitting on a seat in the back.
Lance exited the lion, he knew everyone else was waiting on the bridge but before he could make his way up Shiro's hand was on his shoulder.
“Lance, I just wanted to say again, good job out there today. We seriously could not have done that without you.”
Lance bit his lip, keeping his eyes trained on the ground and his back to his leader. “Don’t mention it.”
Shiro's hand loosened slightly, “is everything okay?”
Lance nodded his head, clearing his throat as he wiped his eyes, “yeah. Just tired.”
“Lance.” Shiro stepped around him so they were face to face. As soon as he realized his teammate was crying his eyes widened with concern. “Is everything okay? Are you hurt? I can call Coran to ready a pod.”
Lance shook his head, “no I’m okay. I didn’t get hurt.”
Shiro’s expression calmed down some, but he still held a certain persona. “I’m here if you need to talk Lance.”
“It’s fine, I just.” Lance took a deep breath, trying to stop more tears from falling. “Something you said made me emotional.”
Shiro frowned, “I didn’t mean to hurt you or-”
“No, you didn’t hurt me.”
“Okay,” Shiro’s tone was laced with confusion, he clearly didn't understand what was happening.
“Sorry,” Lance wiped his eyes again, “no adult has ever said I did a good job before so it was weird to hear. Nice but weird.”
Shiro frowned at him before his face shifted into a smile. “Well, you are a valuable member of our team. And our sharpshooter, I don’t know where we would be without you.”
More tears formed in Lance’s eyes, “Jesus Shiro stop.”
Shiro pulled him in for a hug, “you’re doing great.”
Lance found himself reciprocating the hug, had he hugged Shiro before? Really just Hunk and Pidge. “Thank you.”
-----
So uhhhh idk if this is good or not but I really needed some Shiro and Lance interaction
I hope you like it!!
Thank you <3333
Silver Thread Chapter 6 part 2
TW: Mentions of death/ dying, loss, trauma, confessional sessions, kissing, crying, Mentions of abuse, Emotionally neglectful parents, an emotional rollercoaster, and lots of cuteness.
I'm anticipating two more parts for chapter 6. Enjoy.
Veda's Pov
They walked around the museum hand in hand for quite a while, having intimate discussions about the various paintings. Veda felt like she was floating, she hadn’t felt this happy on her birthday in years.
“I didn’t know you knew so much about art.” Terry said teasingly as they stopped in front of a Jean Fautrier piece titled ‘Dépouille’. Veda chuckled.
“I am a woman of many talents Mr. Silver” she quipped with a playful smile. Terry chuckled with an amused glint in his eyes.
“That you are, baby girl. Sometimes I swear you have superpowers. A math whiz, a bookworm, and an art connoisseur is there anything my baby can’t do.” He crooned beaming at her. Veda rolled her eyes blushing at the compliment.
“You wanna know a secret” she said in a playful tone, Terry nodded enthusiastically as he took a few steps towards her. Veda looked at him shyly. “Art is my true passion.” she admitted softly. Terry’s eyes softened as he reached out to stroke her hair softly. Veda sighed suddenly feeling a need to confess things she had never told to anyone else, not even her mom.
“Really?” he asked softly as his eyes scanned her face; Veda took a deep breath before nodding her head slowly.
“Yeah, I like math and all, but it wasn’t what I wanted to do. I never even wanted to go to CalTech, I still haven’t picked a major. None of them are really sparking my interest” Veda said honestly, Terry furrowed his brows at her.
“Why are you going to CalTech then baby?” Terry asked in a comforting tone, still stroking her hair. Veda let out another sigh feeling exceptionally vulnerable as she gazed into his eyes.
“It’s complicated. My dad was the one who taught me about art and literature. Before he and my mom got married, he was a painter, he was really good too. He uh, gave it up to be a family man because it didn’t get the bills paid. He taught me how to draw, paint, write stories, and read. He had me reading Shakespeare by the time I was eight, I still firmly believe being a teacher was his true calling, but he settled for construction.” Veda said softly. She hadn’t talked that much about her dad in years, it surprised her how it was still so painful to think about him. To remember him, she supposed it was because she never really dealt with his death the way she should’ve. Veda felt tears start to prick her eyes and a lump forming in her throat. Terry immediately pulled her over to sit on the viewing bench in the middle of the room, He was able to read her as easily as she could read him now, sometimes she swore they could see inside each other’s soul. She had found herself reading up on the nature of soulmates a lot recently, which was something she would’ve rejected the existence of before. But these last few weeks spent with Terry had her considering, hoping, they did exist and that maybe Terry was hers. She was pulled out of her train of thought by Terry stroking up and down her arms in the soothing matter he always did. She let her eyes meet his to see panic and concern swirling in them.
“What’s wrong, please don’t cry baby” he whispered; Veda hadn’t realized the tears had actually spilled over. She gave him a teary smile, feeling her heart warm at how much he wanted to take care of her all the time.
“I’m sorry” she whispered wiping tears from her eyes franticly. Terry gently pushed her hands away replacing hers with his, gingerly wiping her tears away with his thumbs. Veda let out a content sigh as she leaned her face into his palm and closed her eyes for moment. Terry seemed keen to let her take as long as she needed, only speaking when she opened her eyes to look at him.
“It’s okay sweetheart. You’ve never really talked about your dad before” he trailed seeming to be looking for the right words to say to her. Veda forced a small reassuring smile on her face pulling one of his hands from her face so she could hold it tightly. Terry drew soothing circles on the back of it.
“Yeah, he died right before my 11th birthday” she said softly, feeling a desperate urge to get everything she’d been holding in for so long off her chest. Terry nodded, appearing to hold back tears of his own as he looked at her leaning in to place a tender kiss on her forehead.
“I’m so sorry” he said pulling away to look at her, Veda gave him another teary smile and brought his hand up to her lips for a moment. Terry’s eyes softened before letting go of her hand and wrapping both his arms around her waist. Veda smiled again letting him gently pull her onto his lap, one of his hands moving to draw soothing circles on her back as he placed kisses on her shoulder.  “I’ve got you baby, let it all out” he said softly letting his chin rest on her shoulder. Veda nodded taking a deep breath as she relaxed in his arms feeling relieved.
“It’s okay, he was sick for a long time, we knew it was coming and we all got to say our goodbyes.” She said Terry continued to draw circles on her back as he looked at her.
“That doesn’t make it any easier though, I know firsthand how hard that is. Is that why you gave up on your art dream?” he asked with very sincere eyes placing another kiss on her shoulder. Veda wrapped an arm around his shoulder before leaning in to give him a peck on the cheek while she played with the ends of his hair softly.
“That was part of it, the other part was financial. My mom really struggled paying the bills after he died, there were a lot of medical expenses, and she couldn’t really buy us things anymore.  She’d be working two or three jobs at a time, and I’d be taking care of Danny and taking care of whatever rundown apartment we were living in at the time. I started to think being an art major would be a waste of time and money because there’s no guarantee you’ll be successful. And fortunately for me I’m academically gifted” she said, Terry gave her a soft smile and another kiss on the shoulder.
“So, you had to rely on scholarship offers to go to school then, and CalTech was just the most financially smart option for my baby girl” he said teasingly, Veda smiled with a soft chuckle at his impersonation of her. He always tried so hard to make her smile.
“I accepted CalTech because it was a full ride and then my mom could give my college money to my little brother, Danny isn’t as academically driven as I am. I did get a couple other good offers from Brown, Cornell, Princeston, and MIT but I didn’t feel like moving again, I love the weather in LA too much. I’m staying away from the harsh snowy New Jersey winters as long as possible.” She said jokingly, Terry let out a hearty chuckle.
“There’s my happy girl” he said softly, pulling her in for a sweet kiss that made her heart flutter. “You’re so sweet for giving that money to your brother but I’d rather have you be happy at a school you really wanted to go to. If money wasn’t an issue, where would you have gone?” he asked, letting his fingers run through her hair softly. Veda gave him a shy smile.
“I wanted to go to USC or UCLA” she admitted watching a wide grin appear on Terry’s face.
“Those are really great schools, very prestigious. At USC you can combine as many majors and minors as you want to, you can do art and whatever else your heart desires baby girl.” He said animatedly, Veda smiled rolling her eyes. She knew exactly what he was getting at and she wasn’t going to let him do it.
“You are not paying for me to go to USC I won’t allow it. It’s too late to enroll and I can’t drop out of CalTech without it looking bad.” She said sliding off his lap to stand up ignoring the pout on his face. Terry quickly grabbed her hands.
“Please let me do this for you baby girl. You wouldn’t even have to drop out, you can finish your freshman year at the top of your class and just transfer at the end of the year. You can still apply for scholarships and everything” he said pulling her closer to him. Veda shook her head vigorously.
“No, that’s too much money Terry.” She said firmly, Terry’s pout deepened as he stood up letting out a big sigh. Veda looked up at him with a blank expression. “Veda baby” he cooed purposely making his eyes bigger as he let go of her hands to cup her face. Veda sighed letting a slight scowl make it’s way on her face as she rolled her eyes.
“Your puppy dog eyes aren’t nearly as compelling as mine, Romeo” she huffed playfully. Terry jutted out his lower lip as he rested his forehead against hers, Veda felt a blush spread across her cheeks. Bringing her hands up to stroke his cheeks affectionately.
“Stop looking at me like that.” She said just above a whisper, feeling her heart race the same way, it always did when their moments got more intimate. It always surprised her how easy it was to slip into those kinds of moments, they were new but somehow so familiar. Like they’ve lived this moment together a million times over. Terry gave her a soft smile.
“I just want you to be happy Veda. You have all school year to decide. Will you at least think about it please, for me?” he cooed peppering her face with kisses the same way he always did. Veda couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face or the wave of adoration she felt wash over her.
“I know you do. I promise I’ll think about it” she whispered; Terry beamed at her before pulling her into another sweet kiss.
“Thank you, my sweet girl. Shall we continue to our next destination” he said reaching out to hold her hand. Veda giggled accepting his hand walking with him towards the exit.
“You know good things have come out of me choosing CalTech” she said trying to sound nonchalant. Terry gazed at her with a large smile on his face.
“Like what?” he asked gently letting go of her hand to hold the door open for her before reclaiming it to walk to the car.
“If I hadn’t picked them, I never would’ve even met Margaret which means I never would’ve applied for your internship or met you, and you would’ve got stuck with Bacteria Ben” she quipped searching his face for a moment. Terry looked to be in deep thought as he opened the car door for her before hopping in the driver’s seat.
“I don’t think that’s true. Do you call him that to his face?” Terry asked with an amused glint in his eyes. Veda repressed a giggle as she nodded her head watching as Terry’s face lit up.
“All the time, and what do you mean by that?” Veda asked as he pulled out of the parking lot, Terry smiled sweetly at her placing his hand on her thigh again. Veda gave him a bashful smile in return before letting her thumb softly stroke the back of his hand.
“I think we still would’ve found each other somehow. It’s hard to explain” he said softly looking a bit nervous as he glanced at her momentarily before returning his eyes to the road, Veda gave his hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Are you saying you believe in fate?” she asked, Terry didn’t reply keeping his eyes on the road appearing to be lost in a memory. This seemed to happen anytime Veda asked him something that was too personal for him. She wondered why it seemed so easy for him to be so forthcoming with his feelings concerning her but so secretive about almost everything else. She got the sense that he wanted her love and devotion because there was no one else in his life willing to give it to him. He never talked much about his friends, family, or childhood; she knew he took over Dynatox from his father. That was only because she did a small background check on the company before applying for the internship. There was hardly any mention of what happened to his father after he took it over. Veda assumed the worst and it was only solidified by the fact that the only people Terry seemed to have around him were his older employees. He treated them all very well, Margaret and Larry had told her just as much themselves. They said sometimes he was even keen to ask and accept their advice on some things, though Margaret did admit it was mostly when it concerned Veda specifically. But that lead Veda to believe he had no one else to turn to for advice, no authority figure to give him guidance when it came to intimate matters. Veda had her mom around to give her motherly advice when it came to boys, love, sex etc. whenever she wanted. In fact, they had a very long discussion about Terry last week when she called her up to make sure they were still on for dinner Sunday.
🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
“Hey mamma” Veda spoke sweetly into the phone when she heard the line click.
“Hello, my Stellina, Kathy and I were just talking about you. How is everything going” her mom, Lucille LaRusso, asked in her signature chirpy Jersey accent. Veda’s accent had seemed to fade a lot quicker than her mom and brother’s. She had found men took her a little more seriously without it.
“Everything is going great actually. Just wanted to make sure we were still on for dinner Sunday” she replied feeling a blush sweep her cheeks knowing the real reason everything seemed so great now.
“Of course, we are Stellina, Daniel promised he would be on time for once. I’m glad to hear things are looking up for you at work. I know you were thinking about transferring. I take it your little crushes on each other have finally faded” she said in an almost smug tone catching Veda by surprise given that Veda only ever told her bad things about her experiences with Terry.
“What do you mean by little crushes mamma? I was very forthcoming with you about my detest for Terry” Veda said dryly narrowing her eyes as she gazed out her kitchen window. Wondering how everyone seemed to pick up on something she very adamantly tried to deny for months. She had even quite nearly convinced herself she loathed him.
“Stellina, I’m your mother we’ve talked enough about boys for me to know when you like one and when you don’t. You always did have a thing for the older ones Veda, when all your friends were swooning over Lief Garrett and the Brady Bunch boys. You were smitten over Harrison Ford, Tom Selleck, and Clint Eastwood. You had to be the only 14-year-old girl religiously watching Magnum P.I. every Thursday night” Veda cut her off, feeling a wave of embarrassment overtake her. As she peered out the window to see if Terry had arrived yet.
“Mamma!” she exclaimed, feeling her face flush again. This time at the fact that she had very much always been attracted to older men but never attempted to date any of them. Even with that all being said Terry was still the only one she ever had any real sexual thoughts or desires about.
“What, that’s nothing to be ashamed of Veda they’re all very handsome. Anyway, I knew you were sweet on Terry Silver as soon as you told me you organized his desk for him. You ranted at me for hours about how he didn’t seem to notice but I could tell you were hurt that he didn’t.” Veda let out a soft sigh. It had in fact hurt her that he didn’t seem to notice yet, she still organized it for him once a week anyway. It seems a lot of their arguments were prompted by one of them feeling hurt by the other in some way.
“You’re right I was hurt by that.” She admitted looking down at her hands.
“You never really could stop talking about him, you always brought him up in the weirdest conversations. I was wondering why you couldn’t admit it because he’s actually your type. I tell you I was baffled when you brought that dirtbag Dutch home-” her mom stopped abruptly and there was a long-winded silence that fell between them. Veda took a deep breath; she hadn’t thought much about Dutch since mentioning him to Terry at the restaurant.
“I think we both know Dutch is the reason I was scared to admit it. I just didn’t want to get hurt again momma” she said.
“I know Stellina, he broke your heart, and it broke mine to see you that way. You were always too good for him; Dutch knew that he just didn’t want you to know that.” Her mom said, Veda felt a smile tug on her face when she saw Terry’s car pull up.
“I know that now momma. Terry and I are kind of dating now and it’s been really good. I’m very happy, anyway he’s here now so I got to go. See you Sunday, love you momma, bye” Veda said quickly as she heard Terry knock on the door.
“Veda!” was the last thing she heard before hanging up the phone.
Terry’s Pov
Terry kept his eyes glued to the road feeling a bit anxious, he only seemed to feel this way when Veda tried to get him to tell her personal things. Part of him always wanted to spill his darkest secrets and desires to her but another part wanted to keep her at an arm’s length out of fear. Only because she didn’t feel like a sure thing to him yet. Sure, she was more open, showed him affection, and confessed some of her own desires to him but it still felt like she could run from him at any moment. Because she didn’t love him yet. Terry already knew he was undeniably in love with Veda LaRusso, and he had been for 4 and a half months. She on the other hand had only just begun to like him. He was positively elated when she had told him she loved spending time with him and that he made her happy. Though clearly not happy enough to allow him to pay for her to go to USC, to allow him to make her dream come true. Now would be about the time he’d call up Margaret and ask her what to do though he was sure he already knew what she’d say. “Just be yourself, tell her how you feel. If you don’t let her in, how do you expect her to let you in”. He had been mentally preparing himself to utter those three words to her since he showed up at her apartment. He contemplated saying it when they had that moment in the car, when he wiped the tears from her eyes, and when he let his forehead rest against hers. But none of them felt like the right time. Something told him she felt the same way, the same way something told him they would’ve still found each other even if she had picked a different school. Veda’s question about fate merely caught him off guard because he hadn’t thought much about the concept. The question, to him, was difficult to process because it meant there were certain things in his life that weren’t in his control. Was having to witness Ponytails brutal death merely fate, a predestined event that no one could’ve prevented? Was his radio going off just fate? Was his contentious relationship with his father just what was written in the stars? After all, one of the reasons Terry enlisted in the first place was to avoid his father’s overbearing expectations and very obvious contempt for him. It didn’t work, he forced him to take over the company, to let go of one of his only real friends, to forget about his PTSD, to put the war and karate behind him all while threatening to cut him out of the inheritance. If fate had a hand in all the misfortune and emotional turmoil, then no he’d rather not believe in it. Because then he’d have no one to punish for it. He’d have to stop dodging his fathers phone calls and ignoring his mother’s pleas to join them for dinner. He glanced over at Veda, her big brown eyes stared out the window looking rather sad and dejected. Terry felt his heart sink and an overwhelming wave of guilt for making them look that way on her birthday. He frantically placed his hand back on her thigh dragging it from her knee to the hem of her skirt in tender motions.
“I’m sorry baby girl. I didn’t mean to” Veda cut him off quickly.
“It’s fine, you don’t have to answer the question. It was a stupid question; I know I ask stupid questions. I’m sorry for being annoying. Just forget about it” she said forcing a fake smile on her face. Terry felt his heart ache at the fact that she thought she had to fake a smile for him at all. And at the fact she thought she was in anyway annoying him.
Terry quickly pulled over to the side of the road, throwing the car in park, before turning to see her eyes trained on the bracelet she was fiddling with on her wrist. Terry took a deep breath quickly assessing that her response had nothing to do with him and everything to do with whatever that sick degenerate put his sweet girl through. Terry reached out to stoke her hair with one hand, Veda flinched slightly like she was anticipating something more aggressive. Terry quickly dropped his hand feeling so many emotions flow through him at once and hot tears pour from his eyes rapidly. It would be the first time he cried in front of someone since the war. The action felt almost foreign to him after all these years as he struggled to catch his breath. Veda seemed to snap out of whatever mode she was in as she turned to look at him with concern in her eyes. Terry didn’t know how he found it in him to maintain her gaze because everything was signaling for him to run as far away from her as he could to keep her from ever reacting that way again. He knew what it was because shutting down was one of his trauma responses too. Terry reached out to her again, this time slower than the last. Veda didn’t hesitate and threw herself into his arms immediately, reaching up to frantically wipe his tears away. Terry let out a breath he didn't know he was holding as everything coursing through him slowly dissipated with every stroke her hands made against his skin. Terry finally let his arms wrap around her body letting his hands rub soothing circles on her back. Both of them feeling content as whatever tension that hung in the air disappeared. The tension was replaced with a newly discovered sense of fellow feeling between them. Terry didn’t know it was possible for them to show each other even more tenderness than they already did but somehow, they managed to. Terry let out a content sigh finally finding it in him to speak because he knew she really needed to hear it.
“You are not annoying, you do not ask stupid questions, and you do not have to ever fake a smile or hide your hurt for me, okay. There is nothing that you could do or say that would ever make me hit you. I would never ever hit you and if anyone past or present lays or has laid a hand on you that way you need to tell me who. I will deal with them, I will protect you, always because I love you unconditionally. Do you understand?” Terry asked softly trying not to scare her. Veda nodded her head slowly taking in what he was saying to her.
“You love me” she whispered; her eyes were looking intensely into his searching for a tell. Terry brought a hand up to stroke her hair as he returned her gaze with sincere eyes.
“Yes, Veda, I love you and you don’t have to say it back. I just needed you to know that so you can understand that I’m not secretive because I don’t care about you. It’s more that admitting you have demons and problems that you can’t fix is like opening a box that you’re never going to be able to close. I don’t want you seeing those horrible things” he admitted, Veda leaned in to place a small kiss on his lips.
“You can tell me all those horrible things Terry you’re not going scare me away, I promise. Let me see all your demons and your problems and I will help you fix them because I love you too. We can close the box together, okay?” she said wrapping an arm around his neck so she could play with he ends of his hair. Terry looked at her dumbfounded.
“You love me too” he said tightening his grip around her waist. Veda nodded looking at him with sincere brown eyes.
“Yes, Terry, I do” she said with a soft smile on her face before pulling him into another kiss, a kiss that made all the other kisses they shared prior look inferior. It was filled with so much warmth, passion, devotion, and love from both of them. It was enough to make Terry believe she might actually be a sure thing.
They pulled away for air after what felt like an eternity looking at each other with bashful smiles and rosy cheeks. Terry began to consider that maybe she asked him about fate as a means to imply that what they had, what they were sharing, was brought on by fate. That they were destined to happen regardless of time or circumstances.
“Can you ask me that question again” he said finally, looking deep in her eyes. Veda gave him a shy smile.
“Are you saying you believe in fate?”
“Yes, that’s exactly what I was saying. Were you implying that fate brought us together?” He asked. Veda let out one of her cute giggles.
“Yes, Romeo, that’s exactly what I was saying” she said teasingly with a coy smile. Terry couldn’t help the way he beamed at her.
“This confessional session has set our birthday festivities back a full 20 minutes” he said teasingly, throwing the gear back in drive.
“That’s okay, this is already the best birthday I’ve had in years” she said honestly reaching over to grab his hand.
“I will do everything thing I can to make sure all of your birthdays are the best ones you’ve ever had. Next stop the Natural History Museum” he said looking at her with loving eyes. Veda beamed up at him with rosy cheeks.
