The Guardian of the Deku Tree (The Legend of Zelda Series)

I came up with her when Tears of the Kingdom came out. Because of the whole time travel scheme in the game, I felt like creating an OC that would be there across all time to connect Zelda in the past and Link in the present. A timeless creature, if you will. Also, I fell in love with the concept of the Zonai. She isn't really a Zonai, but still. I then got obsessed with a YouTuber who was playing an Ocarina of Time randomizer, and so I got the idea of making her the Guardian/Sage/Spirit of the Deku Tree, because the Deku Tree is pretty much one of the most eternal things in the series. And also... Wood elves and dryads my beloveds...

The Weapons and Intel Expert of the New Squidbeak Splatoon (Splatoon Series)

This is just my love for Octolings and Splatoon in general and my obsession with Splatoon 3 combined. I freaking love the music, too, my gosh... She's there from the very start in Splatoon 1 because I have a very special connection with the first game. I know it doesn't full make sense but I believe in the principles of Shrödinger's Canon. In Splatoon 2 she definitely uses dualies, but in Splatoon 1 it's still a modified octoshot.

The True Halfling (The Lord of the Rings)

Half hobbit, half elf, this is a true halfling. With her being half elf, she got the choice of immortality and she chose to be immortal. She spends her days travelling and learning about different cultures, specifically their songs and music. Legend has it that she's the last creature still alive who can harness the magic of old.

The Feral Lynx (One Piece)

He actually has a name! His name is Lux Jirou! While he's still with the Black Cat Pirates, he goes by his first name Jirou, but once he deserts from them, he goes by his last name Lux. My boy has a very funky lynx devil fruit that lets him do cartoon logic style things because One Piece is One Piece and, judging by the one canon lynx in the series and other animal devil fruits, Oda couldn't care less about biological accuracy, so... Funky lynx boi. In the live action, he's Kaya's bodyguard and, one time when Klahadore finds Kaya crying to fluffy big cat Jirou, Kaya lies and says that this his her pet lynx named... Bowie! Yes, this is a David Bowie reference. Also, he's a Zoro ship. And he joins the Heart Pirates later :)

The Lonely Daughter (Encanto)

Behold! It's Bruno's daughter. You probably already know what that entails, she develops some issues after her father leaves. Her name is Soledad which means "loneliness" but Pepa thought that name was cruel after Bruno left, so everyone calls her Soles now, which means "suns". Wanna know what her power is? Water. With a hint of clairvoyance/scrying. But we don't talk about that :)

The Princess of Hearts (Disney's Alice in Wonderland / Descendants)

What can I say - I love the animated Alice in Wonderland a normal amount. I created her for a Roleplay like, I dunno, six years ago? Over six years? She's the daughter of the Queen of Hearts and her King and she's a Wonderland citizen through and through. Delightfully whacky and fun but also a little creepy. And she loves her tea, spends a lot of time with the Mad Hatter and his friends at his tea party. I tried to import her to the Descendants universe once or twice but I just never found a faceclaim that fit. Her name was originally Alice, but I don't know if the Queen would really call her daughter Alice or if she even knows the name of the girl who caused a ruckus at her court, and also that doesn't fit the Descendants naming scheme :)

The Botanic Monster (Undertale)

Well, I had a hyperfixation on Undertale when I was young. Like. Really young. And I kinda got hit in the feels about it again. Sans ship, probably. Dryad-adjacent thingy. Lives in Snowdin and is constantly cold. That's it for now. Look at my girl :) Well, my first draft of her anyway. Kinda feeling like making her anthro because what else is new. We create cat girls here sir. Dryad/cat hybrid? Maybe some sort of panther or other tree-adjacent cat?

The Cheshire Kitty (Disney's Descendants)

Curse you, Dolly, why did you have to enable me? So yeah, Cheshire Cat's daughter. Queen of Hearts' daughter's bestie, maybe? Absolute menace. This is also a picrew, you can find it here!

Redux/AU: Jelena, the Auxiliary Detective

The bitch is back. The original bitch. Bitch here being short for boss bitch because that's what she is. What if Jelena were a default part of the Investigators? She and Justus would constantly bicker and I am here for it. Is she an OC? No. Has she gained the title of honorary OC? Absolutely. What a queen.

AU: Vicky, the Resistance Spy

What if Vicky's mum and dad had gotten divorced and her mother had taken her back to Germany? What if Vicky had grown up there, never joined the WAAF and never joined the SOE. And what if she met Newkirk on a night out in Hammelburg, accidentally stumbling into the Heroes' organization and putting her life as a civilian on the line for the love of her life, for as much as he lied to her?

Redux/AU: Evelynn, the Not-So-Human Singer

First concept for Evelynn's non-human form! She obviously wouldn't walk around like this in day-to-day life, but in the magic-ish realm, this is what she looks like. She's a fairy! Picrew can be found here!

Redux/AU: Celine, the Glitch in the System

After watching Who Killed Markiplier, in my YouTube-obsessed mindset, I thought to myself: "Hey, what if Celine had been dragged into Mark's mind along with Darkiplier?" And so, Ego!Celine was born. I don't really know how I'm gonna redo her but I wanna redo her. Or at the very least I wanna revive her.

i love him. very much okay? like "i see a 1 sec clip of him smiling at it makes my day" kind of love. like "his voice helps me fall asleep" kind of love. or "his lives and bubbles make me feel warm" kind of love. i cannot physically or verbally explain the extent (hence this long para) but it lowkey breaks my heart when it hits me at times that he might be a bit underrated. pls don't come at me, maybe it's just me but there are times when I feel like he's overshadowed in some places and underappreciated by fans (and i don't wanna sound rude by not respecting their choices or biases) but there's just a small part of me which thinks that way. but as long as he's happy and enjoying his time i really don't care about anything else cause, with every ounce of honesty in me, his smile makes my day. so, imma say it again.

i too love how he gives the people around him so much love but he doesnt seem to expect anything in return, and he does things without complaint <33 he'll cook for the dreamies (and he might "complain" about it but he still does it) and makes sure they eat first 😭

also yes.............his rap in countdown 321 i literally gasped when i first heard it, i love that part so much he went so hard and it kills me every time as well. i also super love his part in my youth, his lazy rap in his deep voice and when he harmonizes with renjun - literally my fav part of all time (my youth is also one of my top songs ever)

im sure everyone thinks their bias is underrated in some way but i think a lot of people see him for his looks (and of course i love jaemin center) but i think there seems to also be a lot more to him like his sweet personality (at least given what he shows to us), as you mentioned!!

and agreed, his smile is the best!!! 😍

Random Personal Ego Head Canons Part 1

~ Ever since meeting Robbie, whenever Bim is rounding up his “dinner” he always saves the brain cause he knows how difficult it is for Robbie to get food for himself.

~ When Anti first started wearing skirts Yan and Wilf were both ecstatic and forced him to go shopping (read: shoplifting) with them for new ones.

~ Dark is secretly afraid of closed spaces due to his time stuck behind the veil as Damien and Celine. The only other ego who knows this is Wilford, who always uses his antics to distract Dark whenever they are in such places.

~ Despite Google’s secondary objective being to destroy all of mankind, he has been making a secret list of reasons why mankind should not be destroyed--for logic’s sake, of course. So far on the list is Y/N, cat videos on youtube, and the rubik’s cube.

~ Jackie hums his own superhero theme music whenever he’s fighting bad guys. It gets to the point where the villains can hear him before they even see him, which confuses Jackie cause he thinks he’s being realllllly stealthy.

~ Sometimes Wilford has flashbacks so intense that it makes him think he’s William again and that Dark is Damien. The only way he can be brought back to reality is by Dark calmly explaining who they are now and by reminding him not to get lost in the minutiae of it.

~ The Jim Twins are always on the outlook for demons so they rarely let their guard down. Even when it’s night time, they generally sleep in shifts, both for their own protection and also cause they don’t wanna miss out on a potential big news story.

~ Since it’s known Marvin and Henrik have been messing with time, they have been VERY curious about just exactly what Unus and Annus are---especially with their relationship with time. Unus and Annus never give them a straight answer though (usually they just talk in cryptic, ominous rhymes) and this frustrates the hell out of Marv and Hen.

~ Wilford once time traveled into the Harry Potter timeline winding up directly into Dumbledore’s office while he was away. There he met the sorting hat that told him (despite his own apprehensions) how he would have made a great hufflepuff if he was a wizard.

~ Dr. Iplier constantly has his work cut out for him as the manor’s only doctor. If it’s not Yancy needing to be patched up after getting into another prison fight, then it’s Eric needing a full body cast cause he tripped on Bing’s skateboard.

~ Illinois feels the most comfortable in dangerous situations. While he likes to appear like he’s always collected, he does get stressed whenever he’s not out finding a new historical wonder or risking his life daringly.

~ Chase and Bing hang out a lot cause they are the Ultimate Bros™. While they hang Chase shows Bing how to do trick shots and Bing teaches Chase how to do “super sick tricks” on his skateboard.

I know you only talked about it like, once in a post but could you please tell me more about drunk Quinn?

Yes, absolutely, anon. Drunk Quinn is an experience. Here’s the post in question where I mentioned it, and let’s expand on it.

(Ask me anything about the crickets!)

- Quinn drinks in very specific (and relatively rare) settings. Unlike his frat-bro boyfriend, he doesn’t really like getting lit up at parties on the regular. Rest assured Nando, when he does this, does it safely and in good company, but the fact remains that he’s often down to party.

- Quinn is a bit different. His idea of drinking at a kegster is having rosé out of a Solo cup with Ford. There are two places where Quinn will actually drink to the point of becoming tipsy: drama club cast parties (the closing-night ones, where they get champagne), and when he goes out with the crickets.

- First, let’s do the former, because the latter is way funnier. When Quinn is drinking at a cast party, it’s because he just finished a performance, and he had a really good time. He’s relieved that everything went well, in a place he loves, and happy. Closing nights can be magical like that. It’s this liminal space between performance craziness and the post-show “what am I supposed to do with my life now?” feeling.

- The first time Quinn gets actually tipsy is probably freshman year at the DEH cast party. They play random showtunes, and he sings along while eating the cake that has a frosting tree on it. His cheeks always get rosy when he drinks. Nando thinks it’s adorable.

- And so those are the cast parties. The far more entertaining version of Drunk Quinn comes when he and the 3 crickets, uh......... go clubbing.

- I mean specifically they go to gay bars. It starts around their sophomore year, and the reason they go is to support Rhodey’s secret undercover drag queen life to be in a fun queer space where they can also have a good time. (And yes, Touille is ace, but he’s going for the experience of hanging out with his friends and not to do Specifically Gay things. Also, he’s the designated driver.)

- Stick with me because this is funny. Quinn lets himself actually.......... become a little laid-back when he goes out with them? Those three boys are his best friends (even though he’s dating one of them). Like, he does have theatre friends, some really close ones, but when it comes down to it, the crickets are his closest friends.

- So that translates to Quinn being able to actually drink quite a bit. One time he and Rhodey go shot for shot. It’s terrifying.

- We all know that Quinn is kind of a bossy little bitch, but he tends to talk a lot more shit when he’s drunk than any other time. Drunk Quinn will spill all the unnecessary drama club tea.

- He makes Nando dance with him, even though Nando’s dancing skills are questionable at best. (He just wants the excuse to dance like a low-key thot for once in his life. Clubbing Quinn is a whole new person. Nando goes into gay panic.)

- There’s also the extremely vivid thought of Quinn making people do karaoke with him, like:

Quinn: C’mon, Remy, we can do Celine Dion! You’re Canadian, so you like her, right?

Touille: Oh, Q, I don’t really sing— (Gets physically yanked from his seat by Quinn to go up on the little stage)

- The videos of what transpires afterwards are copious.

- And on the thought of videos, Rhodey will often whip out his phone, start a Snapchat video, and say, yo, Q! Explain the plot of [x musical] to me! There are copious videos of Quinn essentially doing Drunk History in the backseat of Rhodey’s car, except it’s explaining musicals.

- So... Name That Show, based on Drunk Quinn’s explanations:

“Look... Dorothy was a little brat, okay? The Wicked Witch did nothing wrong. All she wanted was the shoes to remember her sister by... *Possibly shedding actual tears* Nessa deserved better!—”

“Umm... he broke his arm? And then he’s so socially awkward that he accidentally becomes a compulsive liar. :).”

“Well, it’s basic United States history, Ben; don’t you pay attention in class?????”

“PFF, okay, so, this bitch totally murders her secret lover and then she spends the entire rest of the show explaining why she’s obviously innocent—”

“Twelve-year-olds unionizing...... featuring vigorous tap dancing.”

“Hold on, hold on, I can do this, okay, uhh........ so they’re in France, and everybody’s life is awful....... so the main character is an ex-con, and everybody hates him because he stole bread— shut up, Sebastián, I’m thinking— and he’s traveling around trying to find a place to live, and, uh, wait, I lost my train of thought— okay, they all hate capitalism, and they try to revolt against the government, but— why are you looking at me like that?”

“I don’t fucking know, Ben; it’s just singing cats!”

- Quinn is extremely handsy when he’s drunk. To the point where Rhodey and Touille literally make him and Nando sit separate from each other, like Nando in the front and Quinn in the back, so Quinn doesn’t try any funny business when they’re on their way home from the bar.

- Nando usually carries him home. He never drinks to the point of being unable to walk on his own, but for someone who’s always graceful when sober, he stumbles more than he’d like to when he’s been drinking. It’s easier for Nando to just lift him up.

- Commence burying his face in his neck and mumbling things that might be vaguely spicy for a public place but it’s okay because Nando is the only one who hears them.

- But he usually just ends up snuggling a lot when they get in bed, even though he might think he’s up for more than that. Nando makes sure he drinks water, and Quinn clings onto him until he falls asleep.

Drunk Quinn is an experience. Thank you for enabling this information dump.

Fandoms I will be writing for + the original characters within

Including a brief summary of each.

Birds of Prey Valerie Steward - Crime boss, rival of Roman Sionis, has Renfield Syndrome, usually likes the most expensive and lush possessions. Has very large circles beneath her (In a social/hierarchical sense). Can be incredibly eccentric, and very passionate.

One/Omni- The first of the Blackcoats, a large group of highly trained marshal-like operatives. Omni himself usually does not get involved in combat, and pays close attention to details.

Two/Hyinth- The second in the first thirteen/High Council of the Blackcoats. Isn’t quick to rush to violence, though they will do what they must to get things done.

Three/Cettie- The financial backer of the council. Doesn’t usually get involved with the violent sectors of the organisation, she finds it a waste of time.

Four/Aven- Pure bodyguard material. That’s it, that’s Aven. Not himbo- he’s to smart and sharp for that- just muscly man who will protect at all costs.

Five/Aretha- Now when I tell you that this woman knows how to kill someone and get away with it, I mean it. She trained to be Valerie’s understudy in a sense, and has perfected her own technique in disposing of people when asked.

Six/Giga- The techie. Honestly, they know so much about random stuff they will RAM it down your throat. They’re also kind of jokey, hence the pun.

Seven- Seven gave up his name when he was fairly young, and is now one of the most powerful and down-to-earth of the Blackcoat high council, as he is the one who oversees the training regimens.

Eight/Axel- A total wild card of the group. Rarely follows orders, and lashes out with violence fairly frequently. He’s honestly a big softie though.

Nine/Jerra- Usually the one that gets sent in when they need an undercover job done, or a mole of some description. He’s a phenomenal actor.

Ten/Rocsas- One of the youngest. He’s very ‘in’ with the word on the streets of Gotham,and often informs the council of riots/coups that are being planned by the gangs of the city of crime.

Eleven/Ixi- Iris/Thirteen’s twin. They are very detached, and don’t often show emotion in the work place. It is suspected that they show lots of affection in a domestic setting though.

Twelve/Brutus- As his name suggests, he is the strongest of the group, naturally born this way and has honed his skills in since starting training. He is very protective, and follows orders. Not always the brightest spark though, but occasionally he will get a good idea.

Thirteen/Iris- Sometimes referred to as the ‘softest’ of the High Council, as she is much more compassionate than the majority of her peers. She doesn’t mind it all that much, and often interjects in debates with the more emotional side of the story.

Twenty-Six/Kalmiya- Almost an entirely blank slate, she is seen as the perfect soldier. Little room for emotions, much room for logic. However, she does seem to learn social cues and expressions very quickly off of other people.

CATS A note- about the cats ocs; Just because they are stated to have mated with another Tom/Queen does not mean I won’t write for them. If I write for the children, the bond between parents is not usually mentioned.

Ariadne-A witch’s cat. She is quite mysterious, but once she warms up to you she’ll adore you like there’s no tomorrow. She is able to teleport over a short distance, has slight telepathy, and sometimes has visions of the future.

Graciette- The pub cat. Daughter of Skimbleshanks and Jennyanydots, younger sister to the mischievous twins Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, and older sister to the young kitten Electra. She is always on time, and is very enthusiastic about overseeing the games in the pub.

Leviticus- The oldest triplet, son of Ariande and the Rum Tum Tugger. He is very close with his grandfather, Old Deuteronomy, and very wise.

Squiggletigs-The middle triplet, second son of Ariande and the Rum Tum Tugger. He is usually found with Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, he is much more playful than his older brother. He’s like the middle ground between Leviticus and Pixietrick.

Pixietrick- The youngest child of Ariande and the Rum Tum Tugger, and their only daughter. She’s very much like her father, both in appearance and in personality.

Fantasma- The inventor’s cat, and daughter of Graciette and Alonzo. A lot of her time in the junkyard is spent finding random little trinkets and other doo-dads to use for her inventions, or just random collections she has. She’s very shy, and very sweet.

Zilke- The blind cat, mother of Quaxo/Mistoffelees and Victoria. She tried to stick by Macavity when he was kicked from the tribe, her love blinding her to the near regicide that was committed. Eventually, she became actually blind.

Seattine- One of the two pirate cats, rumoured to be descendants of Growltiger himself. They rarely come ashore, but when they do, they play many a shanty for old Gus. Seattine favours the concertina as her instrument, and is usually very upbeat.

Hurdeon- One of the two pirate cats, rumoured to be descendants of Growltiger himself. They rarely come ashore, but when they do, they play many a shanty for old Gus. Hurdeon favours the hurdy gurdy, and is a lot calmer than his twin sister.

Doctor Sleep Elva Warren- The owner of a sweet little antique shop in New Hampshire. She is always welcoming to new faces, and she knows just what cheers them up when she meets them, what to say to make them smile, all because of her Shine.

IANOWT Marilyn Higgins - An uncool kid like Stan and Sid, though a lot of people consider her to be less cool then them. Mostly because of all the morbid facts she spouts, especially during Science class. Probably also doesn’t help that she knows a fair few ways that the world could end that make some people uneasy.

IT Melissa Farley- A British exchange student from a small village in Norfolk. She is very kind to those around her, even willing to take them in and introduce them to her family’s traditions and interests. She has even offered to tutor some of the Losers, should they ever need it. Tiffany Crandall- A farming gal from Ludlow, Maine. She moved to Derry with her grandmother and grandfather after her parents were hit by a speeding Orinco truck. She is neughbour’s with Mike Hanlon, and has very little fear when it comes to brawls. It’s traffic and roads she doesn’t like.

Moulin Rouge Celine Bisset- A dancer in the Moulin Rouge. She is usually quite gentle, unless her client asks for her to be rougher and more assertive. She ended up becoming a dancer there because her fiance left her stranded when he ran off with another woman.

Overwatch Asteria Murphy- After surviving an omnic siege where Blackwatch was sent to free the inhabitants of an apartment block, Asteria joined Overwatch to try and make sure nothing like that happened again.

Mars Virgil- Son of Asteria Murphy, and Jesse McCree. Grew up in Deadlock Grange with his mother, and Robert Virgil- the man he assumed was his father. He joined Overwatch after an attack on his mother’s diner, and found out his true family soon after.

Resident Evil Village Ihrin Moreau- Sister of Salvatore Moreau. Unlike her brother, her experience with the Cadou did not mutate her into a fish at first glance. It is when she comes into contact with water that her first stage mutation reveals itself, and her true mutated form shows when she is critically injured. She is vain and practically unfeeling unless something catches her eye.

Aeolus Aetos- Self proclaimed “Lord of the Wing”. Aeolus is a man who’s mutation made him think so highly of himself that he only concerns himself with his own problems. He is vain, and keeps himself the most pristine he can. Being mutated to appear part eagle gives him both his pride and his expert hunting skills

Mori Russell- One of the village hunters, who survived the lycan attacks by fleeing into the forests, and hiding out of sight.

Lena Vaughn- Daughter of the local brewer. Also survived the lycan attacks, but because of her skill with a shotgun rather than running away.

Shallow Grave Deirdre Sullivan- A failing artist who moved from her family home in Ireland to chase her dreams. She’s partway there, she’s just lacking in the money.Money that she has a hand in keeping away from David.

Star Wars Alaana Rohiikshuul- A Jedi consular/seer. She is very down to earth, and tries her best to have the mysteries of the Force reveal themselves to her so that she may write of them. It is this constant search for knowledge that has her meditating for days on end, lost in her own thoughts. Alessandro Rohiikshuul - Alaana’s twin brother, and the slightly more impulsive of the two. This is not to say he is outwardly violent. Like Alaana, he makes sure to exhaust all other options beforehand. He is much more openly passionate. Othkiir Rohiikshuul- A young, feline force sensitive from Alaana and Alessandro’s home planet, Tmryn. He can be a little all over the place sometimes, but he tries to do everything he can for the greater good.

Daesha’Tiatkin- A Twi’lek force sensitive who deserted the Jedi Order in her late teens- opting to live a scoundrel’s life. She does what betters her, and usually her alone, though you should not mistake this for having no moral compass. She is impulsive, and almost always optimistic.

Kyden Kenobi- Son of Sith!Obi-Wan and Sith!Alaana. Captain/Commander of the Night Witches squadron in the Empire’s fleet. Usually incredibly goofy and sweet.

Trainspotting Ava Byrne- (First film)- A philosophy student who got stuck in Edinburgh when she left her home. She got stuck in the same apartment building as Renton and the other boys, but refuses to divulge in their illegal activities. (Second film)- Ava didn’t end up leaving Edinburgh, the best thing she managed to do was write “The Ethics of Drug Use”, which was of course inspired by the boys’ old lives. She hasn't properly seen the boys since Mark left, though she will occasionally pass Simon or Daniel in the street, and give them a semi-respectful nod.

Misc (Special Ingredients- my original story in the works) Tex Hudson- The eldest brother of the trio of brothers, and he was the one to change his name when he got married the first time, as if it would help him in his family’s “business”. He has quite a temper, and is usually rather gruff. There are occasions where he can be sweet, they’re just growing exceedingly rare. Sloane Sawyer- The middle brother, and arguably the most elegant of the three. Always in a suit, he acts like the perfect gentleman in front of others, however when there’s no one else around, he tends to gloat about how many kills he has under his belt. James ‘JJ’ Sawyer- The youngest brother, but also the tallest. Standing at a whopping six foot nine, Jamie may seem like a beast of a man, but he actually quite gentle. He’s a little slower than the others when it comes to figuring some things out, but he doesn’t let that slow him down anywhere else. He is incredibly sweet, quite passionate, and not afraid to show his vulnerable side when his brother’s aren’t around.

Victoria/Victor Farley- A pirate captain who sails within the Devil’s Ring (more on that in their first piece), and acts however they so please within the pirate code. Born as Victoria Farley on mainland England, they followed their father through to the centre of the Devil’s Ring- becoming one of his crew in the process. From there they fought on and on, till they became a ship’s captain themselves.

Dirty Work - Billy Russo - 4

Been a weird weekend, but I didn’t forget about this one, I promise!

Anvil was chaotic. You sidestepped a man with gauze wrapped around his forearm, blood trickling from his temple.

It was a mess.

"Miss Y/L/N?" A man in a torn Anvil polo got your attention and gestured towards to back office. "Mr Russo is upstairs."

You gave the man a nod, grateful that he recognized you. Desperate to get out of there, you hurried to the stairs and up to the second level.

His office door was open. Billy's clothes were dirty and speckled with blood. He had a scrape along his jaw and neck, his shoulder looked more red and black than flesh colored. The tank he wore was grimy, evidence enough that his dress shirt was probably mangled beyond repair.

"Billy?"

He spun around at your voice, wincing as his hand went to his ribs. Another injury that you couldn't see.

"Shit Y/N, I told you to stay at home."

You rushed to his side, wanting to reach out and touch him but worried you'd cause more damage.

"Yeah, you told me to stay home right before you told me the car you were getting into exploded. Excuse me for being more worried about you than my own safety."

Billy moved past you and shut his office door. He stayed there for a moment before he marched back to you. He rested his forehead against yours, his chest expanding as he inhaled the scent of your perfume.

"If something happens to you, I'll burn this city down," he promised as he wrapped one arm around your waist.

You still weren't sure where it would be okay to touch him. His shoulder looked like it needed surgery.

"Your arm," you said quietly, your eyes locked on the mess.

"Dislocated, but I popped it back in place. The rest is just from the impact after the explosion."

You shook your head and buried your face into his other shoulder.

It didn't need to be said that this was another try against his life. His car exploded with enough force to take out one of the cars that was parked nearby. His men were out there so there were plenty of injuries. No casualties at least.

And it had exploded before he got in. It wasn't triggered by a pressure plate or the ignition switch. It seemed like whoever had rigged it had hit the button too early. Billy had just been reaching out for the door when it went off.

Or maybe something worse than that. Perhaps whoever was trying to kill Billy was playing with him after Billy survived the first attempt. A cruel version of cat and mouse.

He settled you onto the couch in his office while he went down to check on his guys. You could see from the large windows that someone must have talked him into letting one of the paramedics look him over and clean him up a bit.

While he did that, you called David.

"I saw on the news," he said instead of a greeting. "Shit Y/N. Is everyone okay?"

"No casualties, thank god. Have you made any progress?"

The sigh he released told you the answer.

"I've found some information, but not enough. I'm still digging." There was shuffling on the other line before his voice came back a little softer. "I think I might have found the merc though. The name I have is Miller. He's well known in some circles as someone who doesn't stop until he is successful but the guy definitely has a screw loose."

It wasn't the news you'd wanted. You took a deep breath, your eyes wandering to where Billy was checking on his employees.

"Find anything you can on him, please. If we can't pay him off, maybe we can scare him off."

The silence on the other end of the line was telling.

"You want to go toe to toe with a mercenary?"

Billy looked up at the window and gave you a tight smile. The sight of it nearly broke your heart.

"I'm willing to do whatever I have to."

The house was quiet. Billy had passed out sometime around four in the morning and you had tried to sleep, but you found yourself unable to do anything more than stare at the ceiling.

Since you couldn't sleep, you slipped out from between the sheets and made your way to the kitchen. You started a pot of coffee, pulling down your favorite mug as you waited.

Tucked next to your favorite mug was the one that Billy used when he stayed over. It was black and had the Marine emblem on it. You weren't sure when it had arrived in your cabinets. It felt like one day you woke up and Billy had just taken up room in your life.

Not many people in your life knew about Billy's link to your brother's death. Some of them put two and two together, but most just assumed they had worked together at some point.

Your mom had barely been sober enough for you to tell her you were seeing someone, much less explain who he was. You didn't think that conversation would go very well if you tried.

As you sipped at your coffee, you wondered what people would say if they knew the truth.

Billy was the one that killed your brother, but your brother had become a terrorist in his own right. He wasn't the brother you remembered. Do you wish that he could have been taken peacefully? Of course. But from what you could tell, your brother knew he wouldn't make it out alive.

He made his choice. It wasn't fair of you to blame Billy for that.

And you didn't. Not anymore. You hadn't for a long, long time. You knew he still blamed himself, tiptoed around the topic as if he expected you to blow up at any moment.

Perhaps that was for the best. It had only been a few days after you met Billy in that bar that you'd contacted those unscrupulous men for a hit on him.

The plan had been simple. You would date him for a while, get to know his schedule, and then you'd dump him. You hadn't planned on falling for him and his smile and the way he made you feel safe.

None of this was what you’d wanted. But now all you wanted was Billy. And you wanted him safe.

Needed him safe.

"Everything okay?"

You jerked and looked up at the hallway. Billy was wearing sweatpants that hung low on his hips, his arm and ribs wrapped in gauze and bandages. Your eyes swept over him slowly, drinking in the sight.

"Couldn't sleep," you offered as you looked back down at your half empty cup of coffee.

He made his way over to you, carefully draping his arms around your shoulders.

"I'm fine baby, I promise," he murmured into your ear as he sleepily nuzzled against your neck. "Come back to bed. You haven't been sleeping well lately."

You let him lead you from the table, your half drunk cup of coffee still sitting there. He pulled you down onto the bed and moved so that you were spooned against him, careful of his shoulder and his ribs after he winced.

"I'm sorry," you breathed against his chest as you placed a shaking hand against the bandages.

"Not your fault," he promised as he rubbed his cheek against the top of your head.

Yes it is, you thought miserably before you fell asleep.

The apartment was a mess. You stepped over the books that had been thrown to the ground, your eyes wide as you surveyed the damage. Your first thought was that the merc had come to Billy's place to finish it once and for all. But then you saw Billy slumped against the desk on the far wall.

Papers and books were all over the place, the chair on its side. It looked like the place had been destroyed in a fit of anger.

"Billy?" You knelt at his side and reached out slowly, your fingers barely resting on his forearm. "Billy, what happened?"

His shoulders moved with even, deep breaths. You knew from experience that he was trying to control his rage.

"There was another hit," he explained with his face still turned downwards, "and one of my guys caught the bullet in the neck."

You gasped out a breath, covering your mouth with one hand as you tried not to be sick.

"Is he–"

"Not yet. He's in surgery."

You tried not to slump with relief because surgery didn't mean he was out of the woods. And because you knew what this meant for Billy.

He would blame himself for his employee. It would also be the last straw for him to take this so passively. Someone was coming after Billy and you knew he wouldn't stop until he knew who it was.

You looked around at the carnage he had made of his own belongings in a fit of anger and helplessness. You couldn't imagine what he'd do once he found out that you were the reason.

It was time. If David didn't have any more information to help you out, you were going to have to tell Billy the truth.

To hell with the consequences.

399. The “Cats” round up

This week was Halloween, and this year I went as Jemima from Cats. Why did I decide on this costume? Well, seeing the trailer (and H3H3′s reaction to it) for the scary 2019 movie with those basic b’s Taylor and James made me want to see the original Cats, the good Cats.

You can watch most of the direct to VHS 1998 edition on YouTube in parts. So far, its the only musical that doesn’t bore me to tears, even if the scenes where they perform a play for Old Deuteronomy makes no sense.

You know what Cats sorta reminds me of, that old PBS show Zoobilee Zoo, especially Victoria the white cat, she reminds me of the pink kangaroo lady.

Cats came to New York City in October of 1982 after beginning a successful run in London. It was announced at the end of 1981 that the musical would be coming to New York:

Tickets for the show were sold months in advance, with many bulk orders:

More than six months before opening night, the Fresh Air Fund had already bought 500 seats. The Arthritis Foundation purchased 300 tickets, the Archives of American Art bought 300, and the American Red Cross bought 500 seats. Then there was the Burden Center for Aging with 300, University Settlement with 200 and the Social Service Big Sister League with 500 seats. Those are just a handful among many, but by the time ''Cats'' opened on Broadway last week such orders added up to $6.2 million in advance ticket sales. Of that sum, $4.5 million had already been collected, with only $1.7 million in contracts still to be paid in full. This could be the largest advance sale in Broadway history, according to many theater analysts. Orders began to come in more than a year before ''Cats'' - a big hit in London - finally arrived in New York, and tickets are now being sold as far in advance as next May. 2

The musical debut was also supposed to be a cover story in Newsweek, but the Tylenol murders prevailed. 2

I somehow found the cover though. I wonder if this was for Canada? There are people on sketchy websites selling this as a print? The library bound Newsweek from archive.org has the Tylenol cover. I believe the woman on the bottom row, right is Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Viv the first on Fresh Prince. In Cats, she played Tantomile in the first Broadway cast.

As you may have noticed these Cats from the early 80s are kind of scary looking. There are several videos on YouTube of the cast performing at the 1983 Tony Awards, and there is this cat that is absolutely terrifying:

It’s the one who sings “can you see in the dark?!”. I think its Demeter, and Marlene Danielle is playing her? Marlene was an originally an understudy in 1982 and eventually played Bombularina until the end of Cats’ run on Broadway in 2000.

Here she is on Today in 1999 discussing the role and she also performs “Macavity”.

The cats of Cats became so popular in the 1980s that they were even in a No Smoking commercial.

And a seat buckle/child seat PSA! This one is really dark, I mean Memory plays at the end.

In 1984, Rum Tum Tugger became the star of his own music video. 3 I don’t know how often MTV played this--maybe it played more overseas. I remember my choir teacher in high school, Ms. Forrest showing us a VHS once of music videos from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals, and she said that they were popular in the UK and shown on MTV over there. All I remember is a Phantom of the Opera remix and Requiem sung by his ex-wife.

By 1987, Celine Dion (who was still a music star in Canada, but not yet America, and sung mostly in French) sang Memory on TV.

In this clip from the short lived America’s Talking channel (later to become MSNBC) a reporter asks the cats what they did on their snow day during the 1996 blizzard. I can’t confirm this, but he says that it was the first time the show had ever been canceled. This reporter is peak 1996 in mens clothes with his bomber jacket and tie.

By June of 1997, Cats broke the record previously held by A Chorus Line of longest running show on Broadway:

Along the way to its longevity record, which applies just to Broadway shows, ''Cats'' has piled up some big numbers. It has provided employment to 231 actors, two of whom, Marlene Danielle and Susan Powers, have been with the musical since it opened. (Nineteen cast members have died.) The magical tire that carries Grizabella heavenward has clocked more than 114 miles in its nightly voyage to the Heaviside Layer. ''Memory,'' the show-stopping song that ends the first act, has been recorded by more than 180 artists. The New York production has used more than 1.5 million pounds of dry ice and 2,706 pounds of yak hair for wigs. It has sold 390,000 T-shirts, 130,000 sweat shirts, 147,000 lapel pins and 1.14 million souvenir books. 1

Also, in 1997 an audience member because she thought Rum Tum Tugger was too aggressive with her.

Languages: English. I took two years of Chinese, also, in high school, but I don’t remember a ton of it. Just some basics, random things and most of a song about a rabbit because I had to memorize it once and it still hasn’t left.

Favorite Season: winter. Love the chilliness and curling up under too many blankets with hot cocoa.

Favorite Fictional Characters: oh boy. Not all, obviously, but I’ll throw some random characters that pop into my mind. Celine, Dark, just all the WKM people, Kazuma, Iroh, Ciel, Sebastian, Sadao Maou, Winn Schott, Caitlin Snow, and many, many others. (I don’t know why there’s so much anime there, but I blame watching atla again recently).

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link and Robin Wasserman

The Shadow Market is a place that has been around for centuries. An odd community where faeries, warlocks, werewolves, shadowhunters and the like have come to trade secrets and goods, information and magic. Over its many years, in multiple cities, it has had a visitor who keeps coming back for one reason or another. Brother Zachariah, James Carstairs, Jem, or however you know him, has been attending various Shadow Markets for the majority of his existence. Follow Jem’s journeys through the Shadow Markets of the past and present as he meets friends and family, fights evil and finds love in this wonderful collection of stories bound to entrance you.

–SPOILERS–

Okay, let me just say that overall this book was a blessing and I couldn’t have anticipated (and trust me I was greedily awaiting this book) a better collection of stories. I think the best way to go about a book such as this one is to go story by story, give each one’s pros and cons, however imbalanced the two may be (many pros, not so many cons). So without further ado, in order (with some slight overlaps), is my review for Ghosts of the Shadow Market.

Cast Long Shadows: Let me just say that Matthew Fairchild is a blessing of a boy, James honestly could not have asked for a better parabatai, I just love my fashionable little drama queen. First off I love that he likes to have a good time and get into mischief (reminds me of Will), I also loved the way he greeted Jem when he saw him in the Shadow Market. His personality is infectious and I really hope we get to see more of him in the future especially with how the story left off. I felt so awful that that old lady tricked him, he was totally manipulated and he thought it was his fault and it made him so upset and then you find out centuries later that that awful woman knew what she was doing? And I was so worried for Charlotte but it was so nice to see her and Henry despite the circumstances. I love Charlotte so much she’s such an amazing person, she has endured so much as was so looked down upon but remained strong in the face of adversity, with the support of her wonderful family of course. But this story really made me feel for Matthew, I was so sad I just wanted to reach in and hug him. And when James tried to comfort him in the best way he could, it was so sweet, I really love them.

Every Exquisite Thing: Okay, first things first, the art in this book was spectacular and I just can’t even describe it, the picture of Anna was so beautiful. And the story, ugh, I loved it so much! Probably in my top three out of this book, for a couple of reasons. One: Anna is so amazing and I love her so much, her personality, the way she interacts with others, she’s just so sure of herself, just an all around beautiful human being. Two: She’s a major piece of (accurate) queer representation during a time period when being queer wasn’t super acceptable, especially for women. She was just so confident and accepting of herself and her sexuality, it’s inspiring. Three: Her parents are literally so cool. Her mother and father were so supportive and accepting! I loved the part where they were arguing over the color of the suit and not the fact that they got a suit for their daughter in the first place. It’s such a great message and it just made my heart absolutely melt. Yes, this story was sad at some parts, I mean she finally had her first love and then this girl told her they couldn’t be together because she was obligated to marry a man? Gross but accurate. I just really can’t get over how much I loved this story. I hope to see so much more of Anna in future pieces, she’s such an amazingly mysterious character. I also see where Alec gets it from *wink wink*

Learn About Loss: Yay, now we’re in America. And we get to hang out with Jem, not that he’s not already in every story in this book. Also yay, a new character, nice to meet you Iron Sister Emilia. Right off the bat I was super intrigued, it is not the usual spot for Jem to be, it’s unusual company and Shadow Markets shouldn’t exist in the middle of nowhere, neither should a full-fledged, free carnival during the sloughs of the Great Depression. But here we are, two immortal beings trying to figure out this madness. I don’t have a whole lot to say about this story except for its ending. Emilia is probably one of my new favorite people after what she did for Jem. Even though she didn’t want to make that deal with that demon she did it so that Jem and Will could go back to how things used to be before Will moved on from this world to the next and Jem stayed stuck in time having to live through the death of his parabatai. Also, the scene at the end where Will and Jem are together and they’re trying to figure out what’s happening and the first thing Jem thinks of is food, that’s a mood, to be honest. I also love that he suggested duck dumplings, and Will’s response was pure gold. I love the Herondale hatred towards ducks, it’s so random and probably one of my favorite quirky details in these books.

A Deeper Love: I love Tessa Gray. I love Tessa Gray! I honestly can’t express to you how much I love her but I’ll try. This story made me sad, probably the most out of any of these. Not only because it was taking place in such an awful time period, WWII is no joke. It was also sad because you just feel the way the grief was weighing on her. She loved Will so much, I can’t even imagine the pain. But Tessa had an amazing support system that she could turn to, it’s great to see the beginning of what will become a life long friendship. Then you add in Jem on his super secret mission, and he gets all messed up and I’m like *dead*, so he goes to Tessa because he can’t die without seeing her one last time and then she ends up saving his life in-between trying not to get blown up or set on fire. What a badass woman. Their relationship is so amazing, it has transcended time and it’s just really cool getting to see that background of their life together especially later in this book. It’s just super amazing to see that kind of love blossom over a century.

The Wicked Ones: This story had me messed up. It was so weird seeing Celine as a teenager when all we really know about her is that she’s Jace’s mom and that she was Stephen’s second wife after Valentine made him divorce Amatis. Also, the age difference is a bit much if you ask me. But it was interesting getting to learn more about her past especially since it’s something Jace ponders so often. It was also interesting getting to see the dynamics of the circle and how Valentine really got what he wanted, how he started this whole debacle. The way he manipulated Celine and took advantage of her childhood abuse was just revolting. It was so sad to see that she was willing to give up everything just to get Stephen to love her back even if it wasn’t real. It was so awful to read this and know everything that happens because of this, it was almost painful but it was so intriguing.

Son of the Dawn: Baby Jace do do do do. I was so happy I got to witness the moment of Jace’s beginnings in New York. We all kind of know the story, his “dad” died to he went to live with the Lightwoods and they took him in because Michael was Robert’s parabatai. Speaking of parabatai, it hit me hard when Jace, even though I know he changes his mind, said towards the end that parabatai are a weakness. It was so sad to see just how broken he was knowing that he’s happy now. This looking into the past stuff can be really upsetting. But it was intriguing to see all these characters that I know and love at the beginning of their stories. I loved that we got to see the beginning of Alec and Raphael’s “I distinctly remember you being twelve” thing, also I loved getting to see into little Izzy’s mind and what she was thinking when this strange boy arrived. It was so weird seeing Maryse and Robert, knowing what happens to them in the future and how much they evolve. But it was also nice knowing that all of these characters have so much development in the other books, it warmed my heart.

The Land I Lost: This story was by far my favorite story. I just love Malec so much I just can’t even begin to describe how incredibly happy they make me. I love Max, he’s such a cute little guy, wants to be just like Alec which I think is adorable (rolled his sweater in cat litter, ha! classic). Magnus and Alec are such good parents, it just melts my little heart! And then Alec has to leave and Max gets upset which is funny, he’s such a cute kid I seriously can’t get over it. I also think it’s funny that all he wants is a brother or a sister (and a dinosaur). I love love love Alec’s relationship with Lily, they’re the best of buds. On the topic of Lily Chen, her obsession with Jem is so funny, her nicknames for him are pure gold, peak comedy. I also love Elliot, despite his being a fairly minor character he always seems to pop up and he’s just a great source of comic relief (It’s hilarious that he likes Robert, I can’t get over it). But I was so incredibly appalled when they got to institute in Buenos Aires, that guy was a complete asshole. I can’t believe that he addressed Lily that way, she’s a blessing, he had no right. And then they go to the Shadow Market and it’s filled with children. That’s probably the saddest thing, all of the books talk about how much the Endarkened affected the Shadowhunters and how it now affects the Fey but nobody really talks about the other downworlders and how it’s affecting them and the Downworld as a whole. That’s one thing I love about Alec so much, he really cares for all people, he wants to change the world for the better. He’s such a great person. And then he meets Rafe. Ugh what a sweet, introverted, sassy little boy. I fell in love with him the moment he appeared on the page. It was so sad that the institute had been so corrupted that they wouldn’t even help a child of their own kind, although in this case I'm kind of glad that they didn’t. It was great that the Queen of the Shadow Market was the werewolf that Alec saved on the Orient Express, that was one of my favorite scenes in The Red Scrolls of Magic (go read it if you haven’t yet!) It was great getting to see Alec take charge of everything, he really is a hero to those people, he’s gonna do so many great things, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I loved that Rafe immediately liked Magnus too, even if it was just through pictures. It’s also great that Alec was sent those pictures in the first place, that is such a parent thing to do. The fact that Rafe was practically adopted by Alec the first time he laid eyes on the kid was such a great show of Alec’s character and how much he’s developed since the beginning of the series. And it was so amazing that Magnus was like duh, of course, we’re keeping him, are you stupid? I just love them so much. Okay, this review is getting long so I’m gonna stop ranting about my favorite fam for now.

Through Blood, Through Fire: I had mixed feelings about this story. At first, I was like yay! Jem and Tessa are happy and they’re trying to find the lost Herondale (Kit, my baby boy), but then Rosemary gets killed when she calls for help and I was so sad, I knew that Johnny Rook died since that was in the Dark Artifices but then to know that Rosemary was so close to them and all she wanted to do was find them and be with them but she knew she couldn’t because she didn’t want her son to be in danger, ugh, a true tragedy. I felt so bad for Jem too, he cared so much for her and wanted to protect her so badly and he felt so guilty when she died, it was so upsetting. But I’m so glad that they got to Kit in time, he’s such a great character I want to read about him all the time. But that problem Tessa had with the transformation was so scary, I was so worried for her. I can’t imagine having to live through that for what must’ve seemed like a lifetime. But then she found out she was pregnant because of it and they were so happy, although I can’t imagine what Tessa must feel knowing that she will outlive her *second* true love and their child, she went through it once already, I can’t imagine twice. But I’m looking on the happy side! I have to or else I would start crying. So yeah, mixed feelings…

The Lost World: Yay! Ty, my son, my boy. I love him so much. And Livvy, although I’m still pissed that she died, and obviously so is she, but I’m glad she’s around. I have mixed feelings about Ty going to the Scholomance. It was a dream that he had, one that he wanted to share with Livvy and he kind of is but not really. I’m also upset that he’s writing to everyone except for Kit and that is not okay, at all. You can’t just separate yourself from your problems Ty! (I’m looking at you too Kit, run away to another country just because you're in love. What an overly dramatic thing to do, I wonder where he gets it from?) But I liked this story for a couple of reasons, One: it was Livvy POV! I was so worried we wouldn’t get to see her again. I also love that Ty adopted that lynx, like what a mad lad he is, I love him. It was also super interesting to learn about Livvy’s ghostliness along with her and Ty, it was very intriguing. I also was so happy that she got to see Kit, and that she scared him. (He deserves it for running away from his feelings). It must get lonely when only three people can see you. I also can’t imagine what that must’ve felt like for Livvy when she started causing all that scary stuff, and when she went too far from Ty I was already worried. Also, Zara. Just imagining her say even one word makes me so angry. I hate her with my entire being, but then Livvy was called back so we didn’t have to deal with Zara anymore which made me happy. I was so incredibly concerned when she was thinking about replacing Jem and Tessa’s baby. As much as I love Livvy, I would protect that baby with my life. But overall this was just an intriguing little story and I hope we get to see Kit, Ty, and Livvy get the gang back together in the future.

Forever Fallen: AAAAAHHHHH! This story gave me whiplash! I’m serious! One moment I’m like yes! Jessa had their baby and I want to give her the world and Jem is such a good dad, not only to Mina but also to Kit, they’re such a perfect little family (also Jem has a castle? Badass.) And then it’s like “Hey I’m Thule Jace, aka Janus. I want to kill everyone except for Clary because I love her in every universe” and I’m like “hold up, what?!” I was so incredibly worried when Max found Janus, I thought he was going to kill little Max and my heart was so afraid for my little blueberry boy. I was also really upset that Janus killed that werewolf girl and faerie boy, it was so sad and unnecessary. And then we were back to Kit and Jem and Tessa and little baby Mina being the perfectness that they are. Jem is such an incredible dad, I love that he said that waking up in the middle of the night and caring for Mina was a privilege like what a mans. And then Kit was there because he didn’t want her to wake up Jem and Tessa, like!!! He’s such a good big brother and Mina knows it. Then Jem referred to Kit as his son and I almost cried because it was just so adorably beautiful I could barely handle it. Then we’re back to NYC where Janus is being a creep and following people around. And then he saw Clary in that alley I was so afraid for her, I thought he might kill her, I don’t know why since he still loves her, but he’s creepy, bad vibes dude. This story just had my emotions all over the place. But I’m going to try and focus on one of the most wonderful families in the world instead of evil Jace.

Okay, guys! That’s it, I’m sorry this review was so long but, what’s a girl to do when she really loves a book? I sincerely hope that everyone who is a fan of Cassandra’s books will read this collection because it’s truly amazing.

The next day Celine woke up without much thoughts about the previous night. Yes, she had had fun but life kept going on and she had things to do. The day was cloudy and perfect for a lazy day so she didn't even bother to change her pajamas. She was having a great, normal and ordinary morning. She had made tea, fed her cat and watched a Real Madrid match. They had won so Celine's morning was even better. She was also trying to advance a little with her investigation without much success. What she needed was more inspiration so she booked a couple of tickets to go to the Tower of London with Matilde the next day. She was listening to 22 by Taylor Swift in full volume when she heard some knocks on her door probably from Matilde. And she wasn't wrong. ''What's happening to you?'' Matilde asked when she saw her usually impeccable friend in such a lazy state. ''Nothing, why?'' ''I don't know you look the opposite of yourself and you're listening to Taylor Swift and wrapped on a blanket at 1pm''. ''I was having a quiet time until you arrived. Do you want tea?'' Matilde looked mysterious enough to make Celine suspect something. ''I actually have a date'' she waited for Celine's reaction that never happened. ''With Sebastian Stan''. Celine was a bit intrigued but didn't care much about it. Sebastian seemed like a really sweet and attentive guy, perfect for Matilde. And he was also one of her many celebrity crushes. ''Good'' she said without making much of a fuss. ''And you're coming with me'' she said, making Celine almost choke. ''Matilde, I'm really happy that you got a date with your celebrity crush but if you think that I'm going to third wheel for you two, you are dead wrong''. Matilde looked at Celine as if she pitied her. ''Celine, how many times do I have to tell you that he's not interested in me, he likes you. I asked Sebastian if he wanted to meet for lunch and he said yes then he asked me if you were coming and I said that you were''. Celine was amazed. Her friend had spent the whole morning planning dates while she was trying to make some progress in her investigation. With a sigh she threw herself to the coach. ''Tell me you're not making any kind of romantic implications'' she groaned, covering her face with her hands. ''Why not? He likes you, you'd be gorgeous together and you two would have the cutest half Romanian half Welsh babies.'' Celine was finding this conversation terrifying. If it was a joke, it wasn't funny. ''I also think that you'd be better with my plan instead of staying here being depressing with the only company of that arrogant cat of yours''. ''I'm not being depressing! I'm trying to continue my investigation, it's a big deal for me. And Elemauzer is not arrogant. He just doesn't like people''. ''Celine, please, I promised him you'd come''. ''I'll go'' she said, rolling her eyes. ''But you'll stop with your romantic implications. I don't have time for a boyfriend now, let alone Sebastian who's actually famous. He's way out of my league and he can do so much better than me. I work twelve hours a day and in my free time I try to write history books. I'm not girlfriend material for a celebrity, be realistic''. Matilde was still keeping that smug smile on her face. ''I think you're wrong. He can't do better than you. You're smart, pretty and very different to anyone he had met before''. Celine laughed out loud. This was very improbable and it existed only on Matilde's wild imagination. ''Please Matilde, look at him. He can get anyone in the blink of an eye. There's no chance he can be interested in me. Not that I care, by the way''. she rolled her eyes one more time before leaving to change her clothes. Matilde smiled for a second. At least she had succeeded even if her friend was with a weird mood. ''Where are we going?'' Celine asked after they had left her house. ''Pizza Express'' ''Sophisticated'' she laughed even though she loved pizza. ''And the day's so grey! You didn't let me enjoy my lazy day. And Matilde, I forgot to ask you, can you come with me tomorrow to the Tower of London?'' ''Sorry but I can't. I have to work and I don't start on Wednesday like you. Remember I'm just a secretary, not the Prime Minister's personal assistant''. They arrived at the same time as Sebastian who had brought one of his friends from last night, Anthony, who had the same look on his face as Celine, like they were basically dragged there, unwillingly, by their insistent friends. ''Hello'' Sebastian greeted them shyly and Celine couldn't help but to feel that Matilde was right and her evening had improved dramatically. ''Sorry for bringing Anthony but he really didn't want to stay at Tom's with him and his... lady friend from last night'' he blushed and Celine seriously doubted that Anthony had come there by his own will. ''So you are the lucky ladies that left with Sebby last night...'' said Anthony with a smirk looking at 'Sebastian. ''Yes'' answered Celine, looking at Sebastian with a little smile. ''And we had to walk him home, otherwise he'd be lost. He makes a pretty good damsel in distress''. that made Anthony laugh out loud and Sebastian acted as if he was embarrassed, but he actually wasn't ''Thank you, Celine'' he mumbled. ''You're welcome'' he winked at him when Matilde and Anthony weren't looking. ''Nice to see you again, Sebastian'' she whispered only to him. ''Likewise'' he gave her one of that heart melting smiles of his. When they found an empty table Sebastian went for the food and Matilde for the drinks, leaving Celine and Anthony alone. ''Tell me what did he promise you for you to come'' she asked him directly. ''Free lunch. And you?'' ''That she's going to stop trying to find me a boyfriend. Don't ask questions'' she said when Anthony was ready to ask something. ''That's a pity. I saw a nice chemistry between you and my idiot friend.'' Celine looked at him with raised eyebrows. ''Really. I mean, Sebastian's been single for over a year and he hadn't show any kind of interest in anyone until he met you last week on that library. That has to mean something, don't you think?'' Thankfully she didn't have to answer that because Matilde and Sebastian were back with the food. ''I need to know something'' Matilde started when everybody was focused on their food. Celine and Sebastian were shooting such lustful glances to their pizzas that it was funny. ''What was Janice doing at Tom's house?'' Anthony and Sebastian looked at each other, Matilde was more curious than ever and Celine was still focused on the food. ''Well... she never left'' Sebastian said as quickly as he could. The only one who absolutely unmoved by this piece of information was Celine. The pizza was much better than gossip about two people she didn't really care about. ''Don't put those faces because I was the one who had to hear everything'' he looked quite disgusted. ''It was really uncomfortable, they didn't let me sleep at all.'' ''I don't think I wanted to know the details'' mumbled Matilde. Anthony and Sebastian tried not to laugh. ''And this is not everything'' Sebastian was in deep gossip mood. ''This morning they were making breakfast together and they were all smitten. It was horrible, I swear I couldn't keep a straight face. Then I decided to go for a run until Matilde texted me I wanted to have some pizza. And that was morning''. he finished his speech with one of his signature smiles. ''I should have invited you to see the football match'' Celine looked at him, she didn't look very serious with a portion of pizza in one hand and a glass of Coke in the other. ''Once you get into football you can never leave'' by the way she was looking at him, they could all notice that she was being dead serious. ''Do you like football?'' asked Anthony, quite amazed as he didn't know many women who were interested in sports. ''Yes, and by football I mean the real one not that weird thing you have in America that's played with an egg shaped ball.'' she looked directly at Anthony's eyes, challenging to contradict her. And of course he didn't dare. He wondered since when Sebastian had a fancy for intimidating women. ''Better that Chris doesn't hear you say this. He's quite in love with his New England Patriots'' Anthony rolled his eyes, like he was questioning Chris's love for his team. In the blink of an eye the conversation turned to Chris Evans and how awesome he was. It was hard to guess who was more in love with the guy: Matilde, Sebastian or Anthony. Celine had nothing to say. She was even grateful when her phone buzzed. As she didn't recognize the number she guessed it was from work. ''Excuse me'' she decided to take the call outside that it was less noisy. ''Hello?'' ''Am I speaking to Doctor Celine Cadwallader?'' ''Yes'' Celine wasn't sure who the person was but if he knew her name it was probably something work related. ''You are talking with Michael Gristwood from the BBC'' Celine froze. ''We revised your project and we decided that you are to be writing your new historical documentary. You'll also be allowed to narrate some lines''. ''This is great''. Celine wanted to dance around the streets. She felt as happy as when Real Madrid had won the Champions League. But she had to keep the sudden happiness to herself if she didn’t want to look like a crazy woman. Mr. Gristwood appointed her to a meeting the following week and that was all, as weird and exhilarating as it was. Celine stood outside the Pizza Express feeling a bit numb. She was writing a bloody documentary for the BBC. She wanted to stop random people on the streets to tell her the news. Of course she didn't do it, that was crazy and creepy. ''Are you okay? '' it was Sebastian. Celine suddenly remembered where she was. She had lost all the notions of time and place for a moment. ''Yes'' she looked at him with a big smile on her face. ''Of course I am. I'm writing a documentary for THE BBC. Impressive, isn't it?'' It was ironic that from all the people she knew, the first one to learn about that important piece of information was a guy she had met a week ago. And famous actor. Crazy. ''Really? Congratulations!'' he looked genuinely happy for her. And he really was. She reminded him of himself whenever he got a role he was looking forward too. ''I still can't believe this is real life'' she said in a wave of honesty. ''I'm pretty sure you worked hard for this'' he was looking directly to her eyes. She had to admit that she couldn't concentrate in what to say with him looking at her like that. Those beautiful blue eyes seemed to stare at her soul. ''I think so'' she was still a bit distracted. ''You're the first one to know about this, Sebastian''. ''I feel honored'' he said with a smile. ''You should'' she teased him, before going back inside. He looked at her with a flirtatious smile before opening the door to her. They found Matilde and Anthony engaged in a conversation about Star Wars. ''Where were you two?'' asked Matilde. ''Making out outside?'' Celine threw a napkin on her face. ''That's the first thing that comes to your dirty little mind, isn't it?'' ''You look very happy'' Anthony was looking at her with an smirk and raised eyebrows. ''Of course I'm happy. This is the face of the woman who's going to write a documentary for the BBC not the face of one who just snogged your friend. No offence''. ''Thank you, Celine. That was encouraging'' Sebastian wasn't being serious, of course. He was starting to catch up with Celine's weird sense of humor. She was one of that persons who used sarcasm to describe the weather. Anthony was a bit astonished that someone he knew was smart enough to write a documentary. ''Well done, Celine, I know you were going to get it'' Matilde was happy for her friend but she didn't had any doubts that she was going to get her project. After all, everything seemed to be working well to her lately. Celine phone buzzed again. This time it was a text from none other than Joel Shand-Kydd. ''The band is back in London. Impromptu meeting. You have to show us your house someday''. She wasn't expecting to see her friends again so soon after the last meeting. Seconds later she got another text: ''6pm at the usual place. Then we go to your place to do some karaoke''. Sebastian had accidentally spied that someone named Joel had texted Celine and they were going to do some karaoke. There was no way he could picture Celine doing karaoke and, who the hell was Joel? ''Are you going to celebrate this very special achievement?'' curiosity had got the best of him. But for decency's sake, he tried to be subtle. ''I'm not big for celebrations, let alone when I have to wake up at 7am tomorrow. Coincidentally, some of my friends from Cambridge are paying an unannounced visit tonight'' she rolled her eyes. ''A wild night talking about science, the most interesting TED talks and the latest gossip about the Cambridge academics that as you may guess, is very racy''. ''Sounds... entertaining'' he mumbled. She looked at him with a little smile. ''I'd invite you but believe me when I tell you that you don't want to spend your night talking about atoms, singing the harmonies of More Than A Feeling or listening to Joel's drunk stories. By the way, Joel is a friend from Cambridge. Imagine how weird it is that not even Matilde wants to go. And she never misses a party if alcohol is involved''. He wasn't expecting to get all the answers of the questions he had in his mind without asking them. ''You are making me want to go'' he joked. ''I'm sorry but I can't. I have to be at the airport by seven''. Now it was Celine's turn to be intrigued. So, he had just visited London for week? It seemed logical and by Celine's surprise, a bit disappointing. ''Are you leaving?'' she asked with her characteristic elegance. He smiled at her, satisfied of having sparkled her curiosity. ''No but Anthony is. He came here only to help me settling a bit but tomorrow he has to go back to the States. I'm staying here until September. So you'll be seeing me very often...'' he smiled with confidence but in two seconds it crumbled and he blushed. ''...if you want of course''. he added in a hurry. Celine was smiling at him with genuine kindness. It was impossible not to like him. Not only he was really handsome but he had such a delicate personality that it was adorable. He tried to be smooth only to fail and that somehow made him more endearing. ''Of course I'd love to see you again. I have to show you around, remember? I'm sure we'll have fun''. between the lines she was telling him that he was completely welcome in her world. Celine knew how it felt to be the new one in town and how important it was to have people around that made people feel like they belonged. She'd be happy to make Sebastian feel at home. He was looking at her with such a sweet smile that it hard not to melt right there. ''Hey, you two'' Anthony interrupted the little talk. ''It's five already. I think we need to leave''. Sebastian looked just like someone who was waking up from a dream. ''Okay... I'm going'' After paying, Celine said goodbye to Anthony, saying that it had been nice to meet him (which was true) and wishing him good luck in whatever project he had next. When she went to say goodbye to Sebastian she had a light bulb moment. ''Sebastian, are you free tomorrow evening?'' His eyes lighted up in a very noticeable way. ''Of course, why?'' Meanwhile Anthony and Matilde weren't missing a word. ''I have a couple of tickets to the Tower of London. If you want you can come with me, if you have nothing better to do, of course''. Matilde was astounded. After all of her annoying hesitation and denial, there she was, asking Sebastian out herself, something that Matilde wouldn't have never dared to do in a million years. It only took Celine a second to know that he was going to say yes. ''Yes, of course.'' he was too happy to accept. ''I would love to go''. Anthony was a bit confused with how this situation was unfolding in front of his eyes. A week ago, Sebastian had been a literal pain in the neck and now the man had a date with the most unconventional woman Anthony had ever met. ''The Tower of London?'' Anthony asked Matilde. ''Doesn't sound very cheerful, does it?'' ''They executed people there. Not a very romantic place to go on dates, to be honest. But Celine likes it. For a historian that place is Disneyland. I went once with her and I was bored out of my wits. Poor Sebastian, he has no idea in what he's getting himself into''. ''He may like it, for all I know. It's Sebastian we're talking about''. After a quick goodbye, Celine and Matilde went back to their homes. After that, Celine was going to the usual Nandos where she and her Cambridge friends made the reunions. She was in such a good mood that she was happily mumbling Joan Jett's Bad Reputation. ''I told you it was a good idea to come'' said Matilde. Celine didn't even deny it. She had had a brilliant evening. To be fair it was mostly because of her upcoming project with the BBC but talking to Sebastian had been great too. ''It was.'' she said with a little smile. ''Thank you''. ''You're welcome. I can't believe you had it in you to ask THE Sebastian Stan out on a date. You made the first move, congratulations girl''. Celine was a bit confused. ''It's not a date. It's an educational trip to the Tower of London''. ''Whatever'' Matilde rolled her eyes. ''Do you want to come with me to the Cambridge improvised reunion?'' ''Sorry but.. no. They make me feel like an ape''. Matilde had met Celine's university friends and they all had been very nice but she couldn't understand a thing of what they talked about half of the time. She had got really bored and even tried to flirt with Celine's male friends which didn't work at all. As long as she knew all of them were clueless as her so it wasn't a surprise that Celine had turned out to be totally numb in matters of the heart if she had spent half of her life with these people. How she had managed to hook Sebastian Stan with that attitude towards romance, it was to remain a mystery forever. ''They don't think of you this way. They found you amusing''. ''They probably think I'm a simpleton. And your male friends don't even react to my attempts at flirting. And they are really good''. Celine laughed out loud. ''Of course they were not going to react'' Celine went on laughing. ''Charlie's gay and Joel claims to be asexual, remember?'' Matilde felt like an idiot but didn't say anything. Amy had told her about that but she was so drunk that she had forgotten about it. ''I'm just going to sit and wait for Sebastian to introduce me to Chris Evans. I pray that guy's into women because I need a chance with someone''.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link and Robin Wasserman

–SPOILERS–

The Land I Lost: This story was by far my favorite story. I just love Malec so much I just can’t even begin to describe how incredibly happy they make me. I love Max, he’s such a cute little guy, wants to be just like Alec which I think is adorable (rolled his sweater in cat litter, ha! classic). Magnus and Alec are such good parents, it just melts my little heart! And then Alec has to leave and Max gets upset which is funny, he’s such a cute kid I seriously can’t get over it. I also think it’s funny that all he wants is a brother or a sister (and a dinosaur). I love love love Alec’s relationship with Lily, they’re the best of buds. On the topic of Lily Chen, her obsession with Jem is so funny, her nicknames for him are pure gold, peak comedy. I also love Elliot, despite his being a fairly minor character he always seems to pop up and he’s just a great source of comic relief (It’s hilarious that he likes Robert, I can’t get over it). But I was so incredibly appalled when they got to institute in Buenos Aires, that guy was a complete asshole. I can’t believe that he addressed Lily that way, she’s a blessing, he had no right. And then they go to the Shadow Market and it’s filled with children. That’s probably the saddest thing, all of the books talk about how much the Endarkened affected the Shadowhunters and how it now affects the Fey but nobody really talks about the other downworlders and how it’s affecting them and the Downworld as a whole. That’s one thing I love about Alec so much, he really cares for all people, he wants to change the world for the better. He’s such a great person. And then he meets Rafe. Ugh what a sweet, introverted, sassy little boy. I fell in love with him the moment he appeared on the page. It was so sad that the institute had been so corrupted that they wouldn’t even help a child of their own kind, although in this case I’m kind of glad that they didn’t. It was great that the Queen of the Shadow Market was the werewolf that Alec saved on the Orient Express, that was one of my favorite scenes in The Red Scrolls of Magic (go read it if you haven’t yet!) It was great getting to see Alec take charge of everything, he really is a hero to those people, he’s gonna do so many great things, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I loved that Rafe immediately liked Magnus too, even if it was just through pictures. It’s also great that Alec was sent those pictures in the first place, that is such a parent thing to do. The fact that Rafe was practically adopted by Alec the first time he laid eyes on the kid was such a great show of Alec’s character and how much he’s developed since the beginning of the series. And it was so amazing that Magnus was like duh, of course, we’re keeping him, are you stupid? I just love them so much. Okay, this review is getting long so I’m gonna stop ranting about my favorite fam for now.

The Lost World: Yay! Ty, my son, my boy. I love him so much. And Livvy, although I’m still pissed that she died, and obviously so is she, but I’m glad she’s around. I have mixed feelings about Ty going to the Scholomance. It was a dream that he had, one that he wanted to share with Livvy and he kind of is but not really. I’m also upset that he’s writing to everyone except for Kit and that is not okay, at all. You can’t just separate yourself from your problems Ty! (I’m looking at you too Kit, run away to another country just because you’re in love. What an overly dramatic thing to do, I wonder where he gets it from?) But I liked this story for a couple of reasons, One: it was Livvy POV! I was so worried we wouldn’t get to see her again. I also love that Ty adopted that lynx, like what a mad lad he is, I love him. It was also super interesting to learn about Livvy’s ghostliness along with her and Ty, it was very intriguing. I also was so happy that she got to see Kit, and that she scared him. (He deserves it for running away from his feelings). It must get lonely when only three people can see you. I also can’t imagine what that must’ve felt like for Livvy when she started causing all that scary stuff, and when she went too far from Ty I was already worried. Also, Zara. Just imagining her say even one word makes me so angry. I hate her with my entire being, but then Livvy was called back so we didn’t have to deal with Zara anymore which made me happy. I was so incredibly concerned when she was thinking about replacing Jem and Tessa’s baby. As much as I love Livvy, I would protect that baby with my life. But overall this was just an intriguing little story and I hope we get to see Kit, Ty, and Livvy get the gang back together in the future.
