Apologies if this is on your blog somewhere and I've just missed it, but I'm curious where the Toad name/identity came from? Was it something you chose, a nickname that was given to you, or just something you identify with for a personal reason? Your blog is awesome btw!!! :)
No need to apologize! :)
My favourite animal is the toad!! When I created this blog back in 2016, I had a friend in highschool who would snoop all my social medias, she found my secret Twitter when I wrote Justin Bieber fanfiction LOL, and this embarrassed and scared me. I then discovered the tickle community on Tumblr and really wanted to join, but was so scared she would find that account, so my online persona name was “Toad!” I then revealed my real name in 2019(?) and have been going by Jess since! It’s rare, though some people still call me Toad, even in person! :)c
Thank you for this question! :D

part 1
-
After the call with Jeff, which wasn’t really a conversation at all, moreso a berating from him, she was in the worst mood. She shrugged off the Bode jacket and hung it up in her entryway closet. She wasn’t planning on wearing it ever again. Without the jacket on, her shirt that seemed to be exactly on the nose with it’s “we’re in the shit” graphic was clear and she untucked it from her light mint pants. She was exhausted, both physically and mentally. Instead of picking her phone up again, she decided she could do without communication for a while. Her feet padded to her bedroom, after removing her nikes and socks. In her bedroom she opened up her record player, wanting music, but not wanting to be bothered with her laptop since it had a connection to the internet.
She grabbed her Electric Warrior by T. Rex and slipped out the first record from its sheath. As she set up the music, she couldn’t remember where she’d even gotten the record but for some reason it had called to. She skipped over Mambo Sun, the first track, though, and had it play Cosmic Dancer first. It was calming to her, she swayed a bit to the soothing beat and then climbed into her bed. Staring at the ceiling, she wondered about when her life had gotten so complicated. The rhythm in the music and the exhausting thought material lulled her to sleep as the afternoon sun washed her room a perfect golden from behind her shade.
When she woke up again, it was midnight and she was starving. The record had stopped spinning hours ago, she hadn’t even gotten through side A. It was forgotten as she made her way to her kitchen, groggily.
After settling on cereal and an alcoholic seltzer for dinner, she was really in the mood to treat herself, she made her way back to her living space. On the couch, she tucked her legs beneath herself and spooned the sugary food into her mouth. She had only soy milk in the place because she didn’t like cow’s milk and it didn’t keep when she was gone for extended periods of time. Then as she sipped from the black cherry White Claw, she dug her hand into the cushion next to her. Her hand reemerged with her discarded phone from earlier. She decided it was reasonable to go on it now.
More messages from various people in her life and hundreds of social media notifications. She was going to ignore social media for as long as she possibly could. Four missed calls. 2 voicemails. Styles Harry. Why she kept contacts backwards in her phone was unimportant, it’s just what she did.
She sighed and took a bigger sip of the barely alcoholic drink. Then clicked the voicemail notifications and pressed the first one on speaker as she began to read his texts as well. Then the next voicemail. She checked the time in California, it was still a reasonable part of the day there so instead of texting back she rang him.
“Hello?”
“Har- H. Hi.”
“Y/N! Are you alright?” The concern apparent in his tone. She was taken aback. He hadn’t necessarily sounded angry in his texts or voicemails, but she just assumed he was being courteous since it was a live conversation.
“You’re not mad at me?”
“No! Why would I be?”
“Because I just had my ass handed to me by Jeff earlier.” She slightly mumbled and shrugged, still upset with how she had been spoken to by Jeff.
“Oh gosh, I told him not to be harsh. It’s honestly not a big deal. I thought it was fine, you texted me too!”
“Yeah, well apparently wearing your clothes means we’re dating and that’s not cool in the world’s eyes,” you scoff.
“I know how much you like that coat...I thought you looked great in it, too.” He finishes in a slight whisper, not wanting to be overheard.
“Harry…” you can’t keep the smile off your face. It was a cute compliment even if the situation wasn’t ideal. “Why do your fans have to be so smart and know there’s only two of those coats in the world and I don’t own the other one.”
He laughs, blushing at how you said his name. This time not using his nickname didn’t bother him, it felt even more intimate somehow.
He rubs a hand through his hair, “I know, pesky little devils, gotta love’em, though”
She hums, not sure if she can agree about loving them right now since they’re probably eating her alive all over social media.
“So you’re alright, darling?” He asks again.
“Mhmm,” she pauses at the pet name, it was soothing right now. All she wanted was to curl into his chest, but he was half a world away, quite literally. His words would have to do in his absence. “I’m really glad you’re not mad at me, H. That would’ve made this a hundred times worse.”
He huffs, wishing he could be with her to comfort her. He hated this part of his life. A friend couldn’t borrow a piece of his clothing without everyone assuming that they were seeing each other. It was disgusting and it made him dislike tabloids and social media even more than he already did.
“Trust me. I’d never be mad at you, pet. And I’d definitely never be mad at you for looking good as fuck in my clothes.”
“Shut up!” She squeals, his tone turning from earnest to teasing in one breath. He cackles on the other end of the line because despite her mean words, he could hear the smile on her lips.
“When are you flying back to London?” Her voice grows quiet again after she takes another sip of her drink.
“Thursday,” he almost whispers back, having contained his mirth again.
“We have some work to do on your Graham Norton and Jingle Bell Ball outfits. The listening party ones are all picked up -”
“Y/N,” Harry cuts her off, “It’s late for you, go to bed. Try not to stress out too much, we’ll talk when I’m back about work. For now, take a few days off to not think about my clothes.”
She sighs, “Thanks, H. You’re right. Have a good rest of your day.”
“Goodnight, m’love.”
She ends the phone call and chalks the almost ‘my’ sounding syllable that she heard before love was just her tired mind and Harry’s mumbling voice. It most certainly wasn’t.
-
After a restful few days of doing absolutely nothing, something rare for Y/N, she was extremely well rested. So much so that she was peacefully asleep when Harry let himself into her flat since they had agreed to meet at her place when he got back to London. As much as he wanted her to take time off and not over work herself, his schedule was a busy one and now that he was back, they had work to do.
Inside her flat, he was greeted with silence. He made his way to her bedroom at the back of the flat. He’d been here a handful of times. She always told him she preferred to spread out when she worked and Harry’s was the place for that. The door to the bedroom was slightly ajar and he pushed it open slowly with his ring clad hand. His black nails are freshly painted and shiny, no chips. Still in her bed, Y/N shifted around softly. He smiled to himself, taking in how the room smelled over lavender and how she had pink floral sheets. He walked to the window and raised the shade, hoping to have her wake up without and coaxing from him.
“H,” her voice mumbles into her pillow and he thinks she’s woken up. His face turns to look at her, but her eyes are still closed and she looks completely asleep. He wonders if she’s trying to trick him, but then she mumbles again.
“Mhhh, tha’ tickles,” and she giggles. He kind of grimaces, feeling like he shouldn’t be hearing this. He hadn’t known she spoke in her sleep, it was sweet, but with the context right now, he thought him having this knowledge might not sit well with her.
“Y/N,” he says loudly, before clearing his throat. Her eyes shoot wide and she sits up, dropping the sheet she had been snuggling.
“Harry! Oh my god!”
“Meeting, remember?”
“Oh my god,” she glances around her surroundings, Harry still standing at her window. “What time is it?”
“1 pm. We said 1 right?”
“We did, I just...I don’t know what happened. Sorry, give me a second. I’m out of it.”
When she emerged from her room, dressed and ready for the day, Harry had brewed a pot of coffee with her machine that she really only had for guests.
“Sorry again,” she sits at her countertop, searching for her notebook in her bag.
“No worries,” then he leans across the countertop, “Seemed like you were in the middle of a nice dream.”
His brows are raised as she avoids his gaze. She flushes easily, “I- it was...just one of those usual dreams.”
“You have dreams about me often?”
“I didn’t say that!” Her eyes shoot up to meet his and he grins. He takes a sip of his coffee before speaking again.
“I heard you say ‘H’.”
She rolls her eyes, “That proves nothing.”
They both stare at each other for a minute, not talking or moving. Harry is simply grinning at her as she twitches her hand with her pen in it now. Her eyes are trying to figure out what Harry’s getting at, searching his expression for how he feels about knowing she dreams of him. She certainly wasn’t going to get into it with him, even if he did continue prodding.
“Alright,” she begins when he doesn’t seem to want to press it further. “Oh!” She jumps up, dropping her pen and forgetting about whatever else she was going to say. “Your jacket! And shirt! I cleaned the shirt and the jacket…” She runs out of the room to go to her front closet where she had hung up both the jacket and the shirt.
Returning, she holds them out to Harry and he rounds the countertop to look at them.
“Perfect shape,” he admires the spotless shirt and his beloved jacket. He puts them on the back of the chair that was next to them. “Won’t forget my jacket again.”
She smiles sheepishly, thinking back to Jeff’s conversation with her. Harry notices her change in demeanor and takes one of her hands. Her eyes flash up to his face and her body tenses, he feels it even in her hand.
“Have you gone on any social media since you’ve been home?” His eyes are wide as he runs his thumb over the back of her hand.
She softens slightly, “Oh yeah, after the first day I decided to check. Most were funny and sweet, their nasty comments didn't get to me.”
Her eyes are big on her face and Harry watches as her worries and concerns all wash through the swirling colors in them. He wants to take all of that pain away and just stare into her abyss forever.
“What did Jeff say exactly?” He knows that’s what she’s alluding to. Harry loved his manager, but when he had called him about the jacket incident he had been pretty short with Harry and hadn’t given much information on his chat with Y/N. The way she looked right now bothered him because ultimately Harry was in charge of Y/N in his employment of her and if Jeff had acted like her superior in a way that was harmful he’d be downright upset.
Her eyes grow glassy immediately and Harry’s anger begins to bubble in the pit of his stomach. She tries to blink anything away, but fails.
“I don’t know why I’m crying, it wasn’t terrible. It’s just, all my life, I’ve had to work to be taken seriously because of who I am and I hate when I get talked down to by a man. Especially over a stupid fucking publicity thing for you. Like I’m sorry, but I don’t see you as a public figure where I have to worry about every goddamn thing I do messing up your image.” She pauses, taking a deep breath, realizing she’d gotten really worked up as she spoke. The tears running down her face more in anger than sadness. Harry watches on, letting her work through her thought process. “He was just so mean… for what?” She whispers finally.
“Oh god…darling,” Harry grips her hand more firmly. He wants to take her in his arms, but he’s not sure if that’s what’s best for her right now, so he just keeps holding her hand. She stares up at him, blowing a piece of hair out of her face. Her eyes now tinted a light red.
“I’m sorry he spoke to you in that way. That isn’t his job at all, I’ll definitely talk to him since I didn’t have the full story before. He gets very worried about the media perception thing, especially right now with the album.”
She bites the inside of her cheek, blinking up at Harry. “I know your image is important, too, otherwise why the fuck would I be here? Right? I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal I borrowed the jacket.”
“In a perfect world my image wouldn’t matter at all,” Harry sighed, “Fame is a stupid, fickle thing musicians like me get stuck with.”
“Please, you love the attention,” she teases, poking at his chest. The sweatshirt he wore wrinkling under her touch.
“‘M serious,” he insists, “I’m saying it shouldn’t matter that you borrowed my jacket, but sadly it comes across to the rest of the world like I’m dating you.” He pokes her sternum in return.
“And that would be the end of the world?” she smiles, her tone still teasing, but that worry is back and swimming in her eyes again.
This time, though, Harry must not see it because he laughs and lets go of her hand. “For a lot of people, I think it might be.”
She bites at her lip and tries to contain the laugh that bubbles in her. He was right and as he wandered back into the kitchen for more coffee, she shook her head trying to rid herself of those pesky feelings that had been hoping for a different answer.
-
The next few weeks go off without a hitch. Harry’s outfits look incredible for the listening parties. Then for the Graham Norton Show, the Jingle Bell Ball, and the One Night Only at the Forum. Every single outfit is received with praise and everything seems to be coming up Harry Styles. Y/N has been traveling to most of his appearances, making sure everything is in order before he goes out. She’s always by his side before he walks out into the public eye. Taking his picture and saving it in the lookbook that keeps growing, smoothing over his lapels, either unbuttoning or buttoning a middle button when she thought he had too many or not enough undone for the look. Whatever it was, she was there for him.
Then, after his appearances, they would debrief. Debriefs really were just time that Harry carved out in his schedule to just be alone with Y/N. Sure, they talked about clothes, that’s how they had first connected, but it always turned to other ideas. They’d talk about his songs and she’d ask about the meanings that he wouldn’t share with the rest of the world. He’d happily tell her about it and they enjoyed that time together. There were stolen glances and lingering touches, but at the end of the day they were professionals who were friends. It wasn’t maybe what either of them wanted, but they weren’t unhappy.
Harry just got back from Los Angeles after filming for his Ellen show appearance and he was set to play the Bowery Ballroom tomorrow in London. After this there was going to be a lot of downtime on Harry’s schedule because of the holidays. He had marked out almost a whole month of time off, at least from appearances. They still had to start planning tour outfits and finalize the outfits for the events after the break. Right now, all she was focused on was getting Harry into the beautiful yellow Gucci suit that was a twin of the Watermelon Sugar suit he had worn on Saturday Night Live. Harry said he wanted to check the suit before tomorrow for some reason, so Y/N had made her way over.
She finished buttoning the sleeves of the jacket and stepped back to admire Harry once again. No matter what he wore he always looked marvelous in her eyes. She’d argue anyone could say that about Harry though. He could pull anything off and make it his own with barely any effort.
Today, his hair was disheveled and mused from his plane ride back into London. The flight from California to England was a rough one, even when you traveled in the type of luxury Harry did. Despite his tired body and eyes, the suit looked stunning on him. He wore it without shoes and she giggled when she saw his feet. His feet tattoos never failed to make her laugh and she had no explanation for why.
While Harry looked good in everything, there actually was something a little off with the suit right now. Normally, it hugged him just right to make him look perfectly muscled and defined, but it seemed to be hanging a little looser in some areas.
She tapped a finger to her lip, looking him over, unsure of what was off.
“Did you lose weight, H?”
“Huh?” He looks down at himself and somewhat notices the looser fit, but wasn’t quite sure if he had lost weight. “Don’t think so.”
She hums and steps closer to him, dropping her hands to tug at various parts of the suit, trying to figure out whether she should take anything in or leave it be.
“It’s probably all the travel I’ve been doin’. Can be draining me more than I realize.” He ponders as she continues to work silently over the suit.
Her hands travel beneath the suit and encircle his waist, almost as if she’s hugging him, but not really. His stomach flexes at the contact, her chest pressed softly against his. She grips a bit of the shirt from the back and then unfolds herself from him to look at the mirror. The shirt is now taut against his sternum and pectorals under the coat. She tilts her head, silently asking him his opinion.
“I think it’s fine the way it is, honestly.”
“Okay,” she nods and releases her hold on the shirt, hand slithering out from beneath his coat. He exhales deeply through his nose. “Make sure you eat properly tonight.” She says before beginning to pack up her things, done for the day. Harry begins to undress himself.
She turns back to face him as he hands her the jacket and shirt, her eyes run over the length of his torso, both for the sake of checking on his health and for other purely selfish reasons. All the tattoos still remained where they always were when she saw him like this. It never got old, his beautiful body. He didn’t even need clothes to look good. She blinks back to reality when the fabric comes in contact with her hand.
“Make sure you treat yourself this holiday season, you deserve it, H. And it seems like any weight you ever gain is muscle anyways, so you don’t exactly have to worry around the sweets table.”
Harry laughs heartily as he slips on his long sleeve shirt he was wearing. Then he starts on the pants as she turns away again to hang up the top parts of the suit.
Finally, she adds when he hands her the suit pants, “Just don’t want you overworking yourself, seriously, H.”
He looks at her as he buttons up his baggy blue jeans. The outfit he wore was just the first clean things he had grabbed when he had gotten home. His green eyes turn serious after the mirthfilled last few moments.
He crosses to her side as she puts away the clothes in the garment bag. His hand lands softly on her shoulder and she turns to him at his touch. “I know. You’re so good to me, darling. Always making sure I’m taking care of myself…”
It’s quiet. The soft breeze in the London air outside barely whispers around the house. Harry’s voice was laced with love, even if it wasn’t his intention. His ‘thank you’ was piercing into her heart and his touch wasn’t helping her stay focused. Her breath caught in her throat when she felt Harry take a step closer to her, his head ducking slightly down to her level. Then, right on the edge of her left temple and her hairline, his soft lips pressed against her skin. They brushed against her for just a moment, lingering for the respectful amount of time. But all she wanted was anything but respectful. She wanted his lips pressed against hers, she wanted his hands in her hair, yanking her deeply into him. She wanted to scream when he pulled away, but she didn’t. She smiled warmly up at Harry and her eyelashes fluttered on their own accord like a schoolgirl with a crush.
“Thank you,” he whispers again.
“What would you do without me?” She pushes at him playfully, shaking off her giddiness. Then she turns back to her work, scooping up all the items of hers on the table.
“Probably have to walk around naked, huh?”
“Oh my god!” She laughs and starts for the door, Harry follows behind to walk to her out to her car. “Maybe I should quit! People would love it.” She continues laughing as she hangs the garment in the passenger's seat side.
“No thank you, please,” Harry hurriedly says.
She turns to him as she closes the door and leans against the car. This was their routine right before she left, a final chat against the car before she drove off for the night.
“Tomorrow’s going to be amazing, H. It’s gonna be electric!” She scrunches her nose slightly at the pun about the venue as she smiles up at him.
He sticks his tongue into the side of his cheek, holding back a laugh. His eyes narrow at her, slyly. “Very funny.”
She only winks at him before pushing herself off of her car and walks to the driver’s side of the car.
He waves as she begins to pull out of the driveway and she flashes him a peace sign and a mouthed ‘Bye’ when she turns onto the street.
-
After the Bowery Ballroom show, Y/N barely sees Harry at the after party. She doesn’t worry about it too much. His management was going to have a holiday party next week before the little break began for the team. So, she knew she’d see him before she flew back to see her family for the holidays. She was going home for two weeks and then would be back for New Year’s and then would get back to work after that.
She saw Harry exactly twice after the show. First, she saw Harry right after the show and he was all sweaty and exhilarated. He tackled her in a bear hug with such strength she would have fallen back if he hadn’t been holding her so tightly. When he pulled away, he placed two extremely slobbery kisses on her cheeks and she laughed, tipping her head back in pure bliss. Then he was pulled away by Jeff to change and get ready for the after party.
Jeff had apologized over text about the tone he had taken over the whole jacket thing, but only Harry had told him to. It was fine with Y/N, she told him that too, but she just never felt like being around him for very long if she could help it after that. That’s why she liked that most of her job entailed dealing with Harry directly. If she had to go through Jeff for everything she’d likely pull her hair out. He was still short with her at whole team meetings and not necessarily courteous when they were around each other casually. Like she said, it was fine, she just didn’t make it her business to be around Jeff.
The second time she saw Harry was around half past one am. She was pretty sure it was time for her to uber home and she wanted to say goodbye to Harry. Her well-liquored body stumbled around the big room. Deciding to take shots with the band had gotten her to where she was now and she wasn’t complaining she was happy. She was in a celebratory mood and wanted to see Harry right now. Tell him how much fun she had and how proud she was of him. How much she loved him… Hopefully she kept that part to herself.
“Harry!” She finally exclaims, coming upon a group of people surrounding the star himself. She ignored the rest of the people, likely stars too, but she really couldn’t care less. One of them tried to straighten up as if he was going to block her from Harry, feeling like she maybe wasn’t someone Harry wanted to see since they didn’t know her. No one seemed to ever recognize Y/N as Harry’s stylist when it mattered. Harry waved them off, a little drunk as well, but obviously recognizing Y/N.
“Darling!” He exclaims and raises his arms out to her. She grips onto him quickly and snuggles into him happily. With her still in his arms, he turns them from the prying eyes of the group he had been with.
She raises her head from his warm chest so that her lips are near his ear, “Congratulations, Mr. Styles.”
“Thanks, baby,” he purrs into her ear, his voice coarse and low, carrying over the music. She giggles at the nickname, her entire plan going out the metaphorical window.
Her fingers smooth up over the fabric on his chest, a nice short sleeve silk button down that was tucked into dark high waisted trousers - they’d picked it out last week. One of her fingers begins to trace around his collarbone after she reaches the opening of the shirt. His eyes flutter shut at the contact. They were so needy for each other. Each touch would coarse heat through them every time.
“I’m going…” She says after a moment of silence between them. The party was raging around them, most not paying any mind to the two of them off in their own world.
“Don’t go,” Harry practically begs. A hand flies up to pet over the top of her hair and she smiles even wider.
“It’s late and I’m tired,” she makes a face in response to Harry’s pout, “You have lots of people to entertain, Mr. Styles.” Her teeth capture her bottom lip as she stares at him intently.
He groans and pulls her closer. This time his lips brush right against her ear and she wants to shiver, but he keeps her in place. “If you keep calling me that, you’re gonna drive me insane.”
Her eyes widen but her hazy mind isn’t processing all of what is going on. She barely takes inventory of ‘baby’, for him to say she’s turning him on without actually saying it. Tomorrow Y/N would have to deal with that one.
She pulls back from him, creating space between their chests, but he still holds her waist close to him. She leans up and places a kiss on the corner of his lips. It’s technically supposed to be a kiss on the cheek but if she had moved her lips a millimeter to the right they would have been on Harry’s. This gesture has his grip tightening on her, but she pulls away.
“Goodnight!” She sings as she bounces out of sight, wiggling her fingers in a wave before completely being gone.
Harry sighs and runs a hand over his face, kind of in shock of the last five minutes. He had liked it. He just hadn’t expected it. When he turns his attention back to the group that was behind him, it’s not the same as it was before. Jeff looks at him with narrowed eyes and Harry’s eyes go wide and his grin widens as well.
-
Tonight is the management holiday party for Harry’s team. Y/N and Harry had seen each other two days after the Electric Ballroom to debrief, but mostly to get brunch. They didn’t talk about the little teases they shared at the after party. Both of them just assumed that the other probably didn’t remember and didn’t want to go through the trouble and embarrassment of recounting it. Alcohol has that effect of making you a little bolder than you actually are.
Brunch with Harry solidified Y/N’s thoughts on fame. Celebrity could be so strange, because there was the one day when she got photographed with just Harry’s jacket on and there was speculation of dating, but then she could go out to brunch with him and not be bothered at all. It made absolutely no sense.
Anyway, tonight there were no gifts, but Y/N had gotten Harry something even though he said he never needs anything. She hoped she’d be able to give it to him after they were walking back to their transportation since she wanted it to be a surprise and not have everyone know she gave him a gift. It wasn’t a big deal - or maybe it was - it was just an item she knew Harry had been fawning over. It was so him and she knew he’d probably end up buying it for himself eventually, but it felt nice to be able to give him something for once. Price didn’t matter. Still, she was a little nervous and tucked and re-tucked it several times in the back seat of her car before heading inside.
It was a restaurant his management had rented out for their party. She gave her name and headed inside. The lighting was overly dimmed and it smelled like expensive alcohol and delicious food. It was everything an A-list singer deserved as a celebration. She never could fully grasp that the Harry she had gotten to know as her friend was also the same Harry that the entire world was infatuated with, for good reason. He was charming in the best way, terribly sincere, insanely talented, and all around a good human being. She knew that, it just surprised her that everyone else knew it too. There was just that disconnect for her that she shared him with the rest of the world.
Her high heeled heels brought her to the backroom of the restaurant. They managed to shimmer even in the dim light. She had gone for winter chic with a sequin and mesh white dress, that looked like fresh snow with a cream and blue swirling design on the under layer so that her undergarments weren’t showing through. It was like a modern ice princess look that was finished with her heels that had sparkles on the entire back of them. Her hair was down and her makeup a little more done up than usual. She used a light blue eyeshadow to imitate ice and added some rhinestones on the inner parts of her eyes. She may have watched a Euphoria-inspired makeup look tutorial on youtube and she wasn’t afraid to admit that.
The scene she came upon was what she expected. Lots of men in suits and a good amount of women in power suits too. The people in any interesting clothes were Harry and his band. Some of the business people’s partners were dressed up more but it all wasn’t too exciting. Plus, Harry’s famous friends group hadn’t shown up yet. Y/N hid her disappointment easily, not surprised about the lack of flavor she saw in the style. She just repeated the mantra her mother had always told her: “You can never be overdressed, only underdressed.” It stuck with her always and made her go for those bolder styles when she needed to.
Harry was there, sipping on a glass of water. She figured he might not want to get started on drinking so early in the evening. Tonight didn’t feel like a drinking night for her either. After the last big party, she had woken up with a massive hangover and a few memories that she wished she hadn’t made. She wasn’t planning on repeating that series of events.
As she goes to grab a glass of water on the large table, she gets a tap on her shoulder. She spins.
“Happy Holidays, darling!”
Her eyes widen and her smile immediately grows. Harry grins back at her, his mouth open in the perfect winning smile of his and his eyes twinkling with happiness.
“Happy Holidays to you too, Mr.-” She stops herself, remembering back to the last party, “H.” She finishes firmly after clearing her throat. Harry’s grin turns to a wicked knowing smirk.
“I’m happy you came! I know you’re not super connected to all of the groups here, Harry Lambert is around somewhere though and I know he’s been wanting to talk with you about clothes.”
Harry watches as her eyes shine even brighter when he mentions the other stylist. It was true, Y/N didn’t really mesh with any of the groups that worked around Harry. The stylist kind of stood alone in regards to where she fit into his life, not the business part, not the band part, not the crew, and not the other celebrities. Harry Lambert and other fashion people didn’t always come to these events so it was seldom that Y/N had her own people to talk to. Not that mingling was hard for her, he just knew she didn’t like to do that as much so whenever another stylist or designer was there he always made sure to introduce them - if they weren’t already acquainted.
“That’s amazing! I haven’t seen him in ages… I’ll have to get his opinion on how I’ve been doing.”
Harry licks his lips as he laughs a little at her comment. She looked beautiful tonight and he wanted to tell her.
“Harry. What the hell are you wearing?” Her eyes flash as she takes in his appearance.
He looks down at himself and then back at her confused. They hadn’t picked the outfit out, but he thought it looked nice.
“Obviously not the suit! On your head?”
“Oh. It’s a gift from Mitch and Sarah.” He pauses to reach up to play with the headband sat on top of his curls. “It’s mistletoe and it seems like you’re standing beneath it. You know what that means,” he toys with it as he wiggles his eyebrows.
She scoffs sarcastically, looking to the side for a means of escape, “No way.”
“C’mon! It’s tradition!” He steps forward playfully and she places a hand on his chest.
“You can kiss my cheek.” She says finally and Harry looks at her disapprovingly.
He wags a finger at her with his free hand, “You’re the one under the mistletoe, you have to kiss me.”
“Okay that’s definitely not how this works! Now you don’t get any kiss at all, you cheeky bastard.”
“Fine. But don’t come crying to me when you’re the one with coal in your stocking.”
“Haha.” Her eyes once again roll to the side as she pushes him back and he steps back like she actually had a strong push. Then they both actually laugh and she gives him a quick side hug with a whispered, “there”. Harry smiles down at her, but it falters slightly when she’s already pulling away. He wanted her at his side the entire night, but sadly that wasn’t reality.
She drags him around the restaurant in search of Harry Lambert since the party had started to grow and she needed his height to get her where she wanted to go. Maybe. Or maybe she just liked the way he held her hand to lead her through the crowd that was most definitely not dense enough for her to have to hold on to him to stay with him at all.
She sees more of Harry at this party. They have some good conversations about plans for the holidays and snickering about who was already too drunk even though it wasn’t even midnight. She can’t believe he keeps on the stupid headband all night, giving and receiving various types of kisses from every person he talks to. Some are kisses on the cheek, others are friendly smooches on the mouth. Thankfully all of them are those cute little pecks that friends always tend to share, otherwise Y/N might have had to excuse herself and leave early. Jealous little thing.
As the night dragged on, she began to question herself on that front. Why was she growing jealous when friends would kiss Harry. She could've kissed Harry. She practically did the other week. But now, after refusing him a mistletoe kiss and seeing everyone else do what she didn’t have the courage to do, she felt childish. Well, childish or not, she knew why she couldn’t kiss him. Kissing Harry wouldn’t be just a friend thing for her. It would mean a lot more and if it was just a friend thing for him she wouldn’t be sure if she could handle going on with their working relationship after. Her job was the most important thing in her life. Being a stylist, loving clothes, and working on personal designs for the future was her life. Giving up this prestigious of a job was out of the question. Maybe the idea of being with Harry had crossed her mind, but she didn’t know how it could ever be realistic. If they got together could she keep her job? Would she have to quit? And find a new one? There were too many unknowns for her to ever actually entertain it. That’s why they went to the edge so often, she always would back away and she was sure that if she didn’t, Harry would for her.
He knew her. He knew her passion, he watches it firsthand everyday they work together. Even when they’re not working he can see her mind forming different ideas just based off of the things she sees people wear on the streets. He watches her fingers fiddle over her phone, typing out notes for design ideas and screenshotting inspiration. So every time they went to the edge of changing their relationship, he knew he couldn’t push it because he never wanted to hurt her or her dreams in some way. She was too important to him to simply mess that up.  Even if it hurt him.
So when Harry slides in the back of her car that night at 2 am because Y/N says she has something important to show him, he’s fully ready to stop their flirting from going any further. And when she tells him she needs to show him something, she has the most pure intentions when she pulls out the nicely wrapped box, its wrapping paper a swirling lavender pattern that’s really not festive at all, but she prefers it.
He looks between her and the box that she’s now placed in his lap. His green eyes flickering even in the darkness of the car, the city lights illuminating the backseat enough for them.
“You know I don’t need anything…” He fiddles with the skinny mesh ribbon neatly tied around the box.
She makes a little gesture, pushing him to open the present, “I know, but I also know you’ve been wanting this and you deserve it.”
He unwraps the paper to reveal a Gucci box and he rolls his eyes at her, but smiles genuinely as he lifts the top of the box off. It reveals a 1955 Horsebit Shoulder Bag in beautiful shiny black leather. It’s gorgeous.
“I can’t...I don’t know what to say,” Harry’s eyes are huge as his delicate hands ghost over the bag's details. He had been wanting it and he hadn’t gotten the courage to buy it yet. He liked purses, but sometimes he even had his doubts about what he could pull off.
His eyes go back to her and she smiles widely at him, all her teeth on display because she’s just that happy. “This is a really expensive bag, Y/N.”
“If it makes you feel better I can charge it as a wardrobe expense, but then it’s not really a gift from me,” She sighs at his unrelenting gaze.
“Thank you.” He touches at the bag again and then does a dance in his spot. “And don’t worry, I will always remember this as a gift from you. I love it.”
She smiles and leans over the box to look at the bag, admiring the beauty of it as well. “It’s pretty great.”
“Mhmm,” Harry hums and she raises her eyes, seeing his trained on her face. “You’re under the mistletoe again, darling,” he smirks.
Her breath stops once again, how could he do that to her so easily? Their eyes stay locked under the city lights. The fake mistletoe bobs above them still connected to the silly headband. It’s colorful leaves and fun stripes mock her when she flicks her gaze up to it for a moment. Then back to Harry. Harry who’s holding the gift she just gave him. Harry who looks beautiful tonight. Harry who is her favorite person in the world to spend time with.
Now. Now is when she pulls back from the ledge. This is when she takes a step back and stops herself. When Harry laughs it off. When she pushes him away. When they go about the rest of their day like that electricity hadn’t gone up either of their spines.
But that’s not what happens. Instead, she nods in agreement and then crashes her lips against Harry’s. It’s not like those friend kisses that had happened with him all night under that same mistletoe. It’s hard and hot and fast. Her lips are pressed to his for one searing moment and then she’s biting his lip, desperate to taste more of him. She had been longing for this for so long and now that she had it, she couldn’t let it go.
Harry’s hands fly to her cheeks as he pulls her closer, more into his lap. He pushes the box into the front area of the car blindly. The gift was completely forgotten. This was a far more important matter. Her lips were wet and plush and they tasted like the single Manhattan she had halfway through the night and vanilla lip gloss. When she bites his lip, he can’t hold back the moan inside his throat and she presses her tongue into his mouth quickly. He was her oasis and she had been traveling for months. He responds with similar vigor, enjoying the way her body presses to his in the backseat of this little car.
They kiss for as long as they can. Licking, sucking, and biting each other’s lips to taste as much as they can. But it’s just kissing. Neither of them work to travel anywhere else. Their lips are seemingly enough. Each press of their lips communicates what they had been longing for. It’s euphoric.
When the windows start to fog and her eyes open for a random moment, she realizes they need to cool whatever this is.
“H-Harry,”  She gulps for a breath of air and she tries to get his attention. “I gotta get home.”
“Come back to my place,” he mumbles into her collarbone, happily licking over his love bite.
She laughs and swallows slowly, “That is definitely out of the question, I have a flight tomorrow.”
He removes his mouth from her and straightens up. His lips are even brighter pink than usual and perfectly puffy. His hair disheveled from her hands. She blushes at the thought.
“Right, forgot about that,” he opens the car door and they both slide out. They stand at her car, just like they usually did outside his house. However this time is quite different from most.
They sigh heavily, in unison. The winter air is cold in London. She shivers slightly and knows she can’t stay in his presence much longer.
“Merry Christmas, H.”
He leans down and places one last sweet kiss to her lips. She wrinkles her nose and smiles  unabashedly.
“Merry Christmas, Darling.”
-
Harry and her don’t talk as much while she’s back home for the holidays. There’s no work to be discussed and while they parted on not necessarily bad terms, there was definitely a conversation that needed to be had between the two. Neither seemed to want to have that conversation over the phone, or worse, text. So for the next week and a half, Harry and Y/N exchanged texts of funny memes that reminded them of each other and odd anecdotes from family members that had made them laugh. Nothing really substantial, just small, I was thinking of you messages.
When she walked out of the luggage carousel at London Heathrow Airport, she expected to be getting in the queue for an uber. Instead, before she could cross the street to get to the queue even, a tall man stopped her. A tall, scruffy, extremely buff, extremely handsome, and extremely kissable man. Harry. It would be terribly strange if it was anyone else.
“Excuse me, ma’am, do you need a lift back to your flat?” His dark sunglasses cover his face and a big coat, scarf, and hat make him hardly recognizable. The curls sticking out from beneath the cute knit scarf are thankfully a dead give away for her. As well as his perfect drawling voice.
She shivered in the cold, her matching grey sweatpants and Treat People With Kindness sweatshirt had been warm enough on the flight, but proved inadequate for almost January in London. Yet, Harry’s presence brings a smile to her face.
“It’s good to see you, H.”
He laughs, his cover obviously blown. His arms encircle her body and she instantly melts into his embrace. His large coat easily fell around her and warmed her. His own natural body heat adds to her new found warmth as well.
“You too,” he murmured. His head buries into the crook of her neck, warming her cold skin.
He pulls back after a rather long embrace, realizing they’re still out on the sidewalk. He takes one step back and she visibly deflates at his absence, the cold once again surrounding her.
“Let’s get you home,” he grabs at the handle of her suitcase in one hand and her hand in the other. The warmth returns and she grins, placated by his touch.
“So are you coming to my party tonight?” He inquires once he settles into the driver’s seat after putting her suitcase in the back.
She shifts in her seat, arms wrapped tightly around herself, still cold without any warmth from Harry or the car. “Don’t you suppose there was a reason why I chose to come home today?”
Harry’s ears perk at the use of home, never assuming Y/N viewed London as her home, still it made him smile.
As the car purrs to life, heat immediately seeping out of the seats and vents, Harry’s phone connects as well. NFWMB by Hozier begins to play softly and she glances at Harry again. The song was so sultry and soft, like expensive dark chocolate melting on your tongue. The mood in the car seemed to shift. Their eyes met, Harry’s green ones narrowing at her, trying to decipher the look she was giving to him.
Then he drove off, softly singing along to the words through the sleepy streets. It was surprisingly quiet out for the holidays, people choosing to lay low during the day so they could celebrate the changing of decades in full force tonight.
After the song ends, his eyes travel over to her again and she’s already looking at him. She had missed his face. Sure, he’d sent some silly selfies while she was gone. Mostly on Christmas Eve with his family when he had gotten drunk on mulled wine and eggnog and brandy. Still, in person, he was even more beautiful. The high cheek bones that glistened with a shine most makeup could only hope to produce. Full raspberry lips with stubble growing to frame above and below. The crinkles growing on his forehead and by his eyes that showed him aging with grace. The precious few moles that had gotten lucky enough to live on his face forever. His big green eyes that were consistently bright with interest and intellect, but deep and knowing despite his loving demeanor. She loved those big green eyes, they were just so big and she didn’t understand how no one took the same interest in them as her. All of it, just sitting there beside her. Don’t even get her started on the soul that inhabited the beautiful man beside her. She never would stop spiraling then.
“What?” He asks softly, the sounds of Paul McCartney during some era fading in.
She blinks, hazily in admirance, “Nothing,” she replies.
“What?” He insists, laughing slightly, the lips she loves so much widening in excitement.
“Just missed you.”
Her voice is quiet but strong, serious. A blush creeps up his neck, taking hold of his features.
“Missed you too,” his left hand reaches across the console to take hold of her hand that resided on her thigh. He squeezes her hand softly and they both smile at each other again.
“Don’t worry, I can get my stuff upstairs. I don’t want you being out in the cold any longer than you have to. I’ll see you tonight, H!” She pushes her body across the console and places a kiss on his cheek before jumping out of the car. Harry makes a half smile, knowing he can’t change her mind. He waves to her behind the window as she travels into her building.
“See you.” He says to himself before driving back to his home to finish up preparing for tonight’s festivities. The party was going to be more intimate than the Christmas party at the restaurant. Tonight was just Harry’s family and closest friend - the band, Jeff and his family, Y/N, and a few others.
-
The whole night Harry and Y/N are within a foot of each other, if not on top of each other. He never leaves her side nor does she his. They are tethered to one another. The longest they’re apart is when Harry gets them refills of Champagne and Y/N journeys to the restroom. They laugh and catch up.
As the night goes on, Harry begins to whisper sweet nothings in her ear and she giggles and places her hand on his chest flirtily. Their interaction is a dance, bedroom eyes and low voices, lingering touches and suggestive lip bites.
When the countdown begins to grow closer, everyone refills their drinks and gathers in the center of Harry’s living room. They cheer and countdown to 2020. And of course, Y/N’s by Harry’s side as he begins the count. And when they get to ‘one’ and everyone’s saying “Happy New Year”, Harry and her are sharing a chaste peck to the lips that electrifies everything they had been saying to each other all night. She sighs into his mouth, but pulls away quickly, aware of their surroundings. No one particularly questions the kiss, either not paying attention or caring. Harry beams down at her and they enjoy the rest of the evening.
At around 1 am, the last of the guests stumble out of Harry’s homes and into waiting ubers and safe rides. Y/N lingers back, beginning to clean the discarded glassware and paper plates. Her and Harry are definitely tipsy, but they enjoy the cleaning work, making terrible jokes about New Year’s and commenting on what people wore tonight. When it’s relatively cleaned in the kitchen, Y/N wanders out to the living room and finds Harry reclined back on the couch.
“H,” She sticks out her foot and nudges him with her boot.
“C’mere,” he reaches out his hand to her, his coat discarded, leaving his arms bare with only a white tank top on.
She takes his hand hesitantly and is yanked on top of Harry in an instant. With a loud huff, she settles above him. “That wasn’t nice.”
“Shush,” his pointer finger goes over her lips, her eyes narrow at him, “Can you believe we’re seeing 2020?”
“Oh my god! I hate you!” She rolls her eyes at his pun and shakes herself from his hand around her waist. She stands up to walk away but he easily grasps her wrist and stops her, easily sitting himself up on the couch.
He looks at her and her annoyance, that wasn’t all too strong in the first place, dissipates. She sighs, “I should probably be heading home.”
“You should stay, it’s so late,” his hand rubbing over the skin on her wrist.
She bites her lip, contemplating the offer, he was right. “I’m really tired and we haven’t really talked, H.”
“But we-”
“Not about us. We’ve been skirting around it, flirting with each other all night, but we haven’t talked about what’s going on. I can’t stay if you expect something from me.”
“I don’t expect anything from you, Y/N. That’s not why I want you to say,” Harry says earnestly, realizing quickly  what she’s saying. “I’ve never expected anything from you. An offer to stay is just an offer to stay.”
“Okay,” she finally smiles and sits down beside Harry.
“You can sleep in the guest bedroom, too. If that makes you more comfortable?”
“Oh...I don’t know if we have to take it that far. Plus, you’re like a personal heater and I get cold at night.”
Harry perks up, he had been feeling resigned that maybe she wasn't on the same page as him. He wanted to be with her all the time but also didn’t want to put any pressure on her. She just made him so happy.
“Great! Let’s get to bed then.” He pops up from the couch and brings her into his arms, “You know where all my clothes are, so you can just borrow whatever you want, and then I’m sure I have extra toothbrushes…”
She giggles into his side as she watches him ramble animatedly. Sometimes he was oh so bright, so joyful and carefree. A stark contrast from the quiet confidence he often exhibited for the public.
-
She woke up in the warm embrace of Harry. His whole bed smelled like him, vanilla mixed with spices of tobacco and sandalwood. It was delicious and she snuggled in deeper to the soft chest she laid against, breathing in his scent deeply.
They rested there for a long time. Harry makes his awakening known with a lingering kiss to her forehead. They both sigh in contentment, radiant in each other’s arms.
“What’s the plan today?” She ponders as Harry’s fingers trace patterns over her skin. He hums in thought.
“Wanna be with you…”
She laughs and looks up at him, “Me too, but we can’t lay around all day.”
“Well, we could.” Harry insists.
She laughs again and twists in his arms, settling so she’s facing him. She bites her lip as she thinks about something, scanning his face over and over.
“I’m gonna go home and get ready for the day. Let’s just explore the city and do some 2020 shopping. Who knows, maybe fashion’s changed since the last decade,” she grins.
Harry chuckles a little and pets at her hair, “I like the sound of that. And we can talk - about us.”
“Mmhmm.”
He tilts his head forward and meets her lips once again, savoring her taste. Each kiss makes him want more. She was good.
-
Harry lugs in the four heavy shopping bags into her flat, as she carries the single small bag from the chocolatier he had dragged them into. He presses her to the counter when he sets down the bags and begins to kiss her face all over. She giggles and places her hands on his shoulders, giving him a kiss to the lips before pulling away.
They had talked about what they wanted, what they saw in each other and how that fit into their work relationship and the rest of their lives. Harry would have to talk to Jeff, but more so as a by the way this is what I’m doing with my life, not an ask for permission. Y/N would continue as his stylist until the end of the tour cycle, but afterwards she’d go back to freelancing. They wanted to try to date and be as normal as possible. She told him how she didn’t love the fame or the celebrities. Sure she dealt with those things for work, but when they were off duty, she wanted to be regular. She wanted to go out on dates and make dinner on weekend nights. Harry had agreed, he wanted those things too and he understood her wish to keep work and their relationship separate. However, he’d made her concede to allowing kisses during work hours. She had laughed and said it was an easy term to agree to.
It was going to be a good thing. They were both giddy with excitement, the new year, and all the new things they had bought on their relationship high.
“Oh!” She pushed Harry further away from her and hurried into her room. He laughed and looked confusedly after her. “Wait there!” She called. Harry leaned against the back of her upholstered chair.
“Close your eyes!” She says before coming back into the room. Harry’s hands go over his eyes easily as he grins blindly in her direction.
“‘M waiting…”
“Open.”
Harry’s hands slip away and his green eyes blink open. In front of him stands Y/N holding up a hand knit brown sweater vest with horizontal red, cream and blue thin stripes along with the thicker brown stripes. Harry beams, reaching his hands out to take hold of it.
“It was supposed to be a surprise for later, but I found it at this vintage place while I was home and I couldn’t wait any longer to show it to you.”
“Darling, this is gorgeous. I love it! But you shouldn’t have...”
“I thought you could wear it for Lizzo’s concert. I know you said you liked the other sweater vest, but this one is so-”
“You spoil me, seriously.” He cuts her off and laughs before pulling her back into him. Their lips collide in a searing kiss, Harry’s excitement over the new garment making him eager to show her how much he really loved it.
A small sigh escapes her lips as Harry presses into her. His tongue pushing into her mouth in a way that turns the sigh into a moan.
“Let me show you just how much I love it,” He murmurs against her lips, casting the garment onto the back of the chair he had previously been leaning on.
She smiles, eyes fluttering open and meeting his with adoration swelling in their depths. Then she allows him to back their intertwined bodies into her room.
-
Some apartment in New York a few months later:
“I knew it!”
“Huh?” Aidy lifts her head from the skit she was working on to look at her friend and coworker.
“That stylist...for Harry Styles,” Heidi shifts, sitting up and turning her phone to face Aidy, “She was seen out with him, getting lunch in London and then making out on a street corner. I bet they were dating back in November when he was on the show!”
Aidy laughs, thinking back to her conversation with the stylist that night of Harry’s show. The girl had been so in love that night and Harry had been smitten all week, describing her in the best way, praising her every decision, yearning for her even. And now they were actually together...she was happy for them.
“I don’t know about that...but they were head over Gucci heels for each other that’s for sure.”
Heidi and her scroll through the pictures on social media of the singer and his girlfriend.
“They probably are the best dressed couple I have ever seen,” Heidi grumbles.
“Now that is definitely accurate.”

pairing: Ezra Bridger x f!Reader (mostly platonic)
warnings: some fluff
word count: 710
summary: you can’t sleep and decide to take a walk around the Ghost, bumping into Ezra as you do
Febuwhump Prompt: ‘Insomnia’ (Day 6)
You wandered around the Ghost, your bare feet padding against the cool metal floor soundlessly. It was one of those nights where you just couldn’t seem to sleep. You had been too restless to stay in your bunk so you got out, hoping that by walking around, you would become tired enough to sleep.
Making your way to the nose gun, you hesitated as you heard the faint sounds of someone speaking.
Curiosity overcoming you, you crept towards the door.
‘I’ve been training with Kanan every day and I’m getting better at being a Jedi.’
You immediately identified the voice as Ezra’s, wondering who he was talking to.
‘We’ve been fighting against the Empire, continuing your work. Hera says that you would be really proud of me and I know that. I just wish you were here to tell me that.’
There was a pause, almost as if Ezra was thinking about what to say next.
‘There’s something else I would’ve liked to talk to you about.’
Ezra’s voice had changed. The tone of it had seemed almost softer?
You stepped back, realizing that you had unintentionally intruded Ezra’s privacy. This was a moment meant just for him and his parents and you guiltily turned back around.
Then you heard your name.
‘Y/n. I think you would have liked her. She’s funny, caring and ever so kind. She makes me laugh harder than anyone ever has before and she’s always looking out for me. Even when we’re not on missions. Like how she’s outside right now.’
You freeze, panicking at your discovery. A few seconds passed and your panic increased. Ezra didn’t speak about his parents often, preferring to keep those memories to himself. The last thing you wanted to do was cross a line.
‘Just come in Y/n.’ Ezra’s voice has an underlying current of laughter and you relax, knowing that he wasn’t angry.
The door slides open and you see that Ezra is sitting on the gunner’s seat with the holodisk projection of his parents in front of him.
‘How did you know I was there?’ You ask, smiling sheepishly.
‘I can sense you remember?’ Ezra grins, stretching his arms out in front of him.
‘Oh.’ You blush slightly at his statement.
‘Does it work on everyone?’ You ask curiously. While you had watched Kanan and Ezra train, you had never quite understood the nature of their abilities.
‘Yeah. I just have to concentrate more. Sensing your presence comes easily to me. Sometimes I don’t even have to think about it. It just happens.’ He explains.
Turning back to the hologram, his lips quirk up in a little smile.
‘I told you she was watching. Meet Y/n, Mom, Dad. She’s special. I wish you could have met her.’ His tone was gentle and you blushed even harder at his compliment.
Spinning the chair around, he shut off the hologram.
‘Why are you up?’ He questioned.
‘I could say the same of you E.’ You fire back, giggling softly.
He grins again at the nickname.
‘Can’t sleep. You?’
‘Same.’ You reply, gazing out into the stars.
There was a small click and you turned back around to find that Ezra had opened one of the overhead compartments.
‘Here.’ He tossed a blanket to you and you smile gratefully.
‘Stay and watch the stars with me?’ He asked, his bright blue eyes sparkling with hope.
You didn’t even have to think about your decision.
‘Of course.’
******
‘Ezra? Y/n?’ Hera’s voice echoed through the ship.
‘Kids!’ Zeb yelled.
Hera shook her head as she moved down the corridor. Those adopted space kids of hers were always getting in trouble. The rest of the crew woke up this morning to find both Y/n and Ezra were missing.
There was a hiss as the door slid open and she sighed in relief at the sight.
Snickering, she smiled at the two teenagers who were cuddled up against each other in the corner of the room.
‘Y/n?’ She softly murmured, attempting to wake the sleeping teen.
Her smile widened as the girl shifted and burrowed further into Ezra’s side.
She giggled softly as Ezra wrapped his arm around her, almost as if he didn’t want her to leave.

Mini Fanfic #802: The Day We (Kinda) Became a Thing (SSBU X Animal Crossing)
1:56 p.m. at Horizon Island's Picnic)
Nook: (Smiles Softly at Wolf and Isabelle In Front of Him) It's nice to finally see you two again.
Isabelle: (Happily Bows her Head at Tom Nook) Likewise, Mr. Nook sir.
Wolf: (Smiles Softly as Well) Yeah. You and the folks here are alright.....Well, I mean, except for that Restti asshole.....
Isabelle: (Immediately Turns and Pouts at Wolf) Wolfie!
Wolf: What? The guy's a dick.
Isabelle: Not all the time. He's a really nice person once you get to know him. (Turns to See Mr. Restti Angrily Yelling at his Co-Workers From a Distance) For the most part.....
Wolf: (Shrugs) Eh. Still have my doubt.
Nook: You know, I've been thinking....
Wolf: (Turns Back to Tom Nook Along With Isabelle) Hm?
Isabelle: About what, Mr. Nook?
Nook: About the both of you of course. You're polar opposites from another. Yet the love and chemistry you share......It just might be the brightest bit of romance I've seen yet.
Isabelle: ('Gasps')
Wolf: (Eyes Widened a Bit in Genuinely Surprised) Oh shit. Really?
Nook: (Simply Nodded) Mmhmm. Which leads me to my question. How exactly did the two of you met each other in the first?
Isabelle: Oh. (Smiles Brightly) Well, it all started back when I was still getting used to living at the mansion at the time.
Wolf: I started having a crush on her the moment she first moved in. So one day, I asked crew mates, Panther and Leon, for some romantic advice.....
Flashback....
Wolf: Panther, what the hell the this?
Panther: (Smiles Confidently at the Paper He Just Gave to Wolf) The words I've come up for you to say to your admirer. Practice saying them to perfection before going to your exquisite date together this evening and she'll be falling head over heels for you in no time.
Wolf: (Gives Panther a Deadpinned Look on his Face) Dude, I'm just taking her out for coffee. And on top of that.....(Points at the Paper) These are all in Spanish. I don't know how say all of this shit!
Panther: Oh I'm sure you'll be able to learn them in due time. Spanish is one of the languages that is perfectly suitable for romance after all~
Wolf: (Groans While Pinching his Nose in Annoyance) I am regretting this already.....(Turns to Leon, Who is Reading a Magazine) Leon, help me out here, will ya?
Leon: (Moves Away From the Magazine and Turns to Wolf Before Putting his Hand on his Chin) Hmmm....(Gives Wolf a Thumbs Up) I wish you the best of luck, Captain.
Wolf: (Immediately Glares at the Chameleon) NOT THAT KIND OF HELP, ASSHOLE!
Leon: ('Sigh') Look, I don't know why you're getting this desperate for our help to begin with. You've flirted with a plenty of women before.
Wolf: Yeah. But....(Turns Away While Blushing and Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth) Izzy's different from all of them, you know?
Panther: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) Izzy?
Wolf: It's a nickname I just thought of giving her someday.
Leon: Cute. But try refraining yourself from calling her that in your first meeting.
Wolf: (Sighs While Nodding in Agreement) Right. But yeah, like I said. She's completely different from all the girls I've talked to over the years. She's kind, hardworking, hell, she can even rival Kirby in a cuteness contest and she would win by a landslide.
Leon: (Smirks a Little) You've really fallen for her, haven't you?
Wolf: Yeah. I.....guess I am. I know I'm not the most romantic guy in the bunch, but....I dunno. Something's telling me to give this one a shot. And I guess I believed it.
Leon: Well....If this is really what your heart desires, then I suppose the advice I can give you at the moment is to have more confidence in yourself while talking to her.
Panther: And if all hope is lost, you can always blurt out these lovely pick-up lines on the paper.
Wolf: Still don't know how to speak in Spanish, Panther. But I'll try not to fuck up out there. Thanks, guys.
Few Minutes Later in the Dining Hall.....
Wolf: (Reading the Paper Panther Gave Him While Walking) "Te....A-mo.....Mu...sa.....Sway....la?" ('Sigh') Why the hell couldn't that Casanova written all of this in English? (Crumbles the Paper Up) Ridiculous.
????: Mr. O' Donnell?
Wolf: What do you wan- (Eyes Widened Once Realized that Isabelle is in Front of Him) O-Oh! Uh...Izzy- No! I-I mean! ('Clears Throat') Isabelle. Uh....How it's... going?
Isabelle: (Smiles Brightly) I'm doing very well. I've just got done finishing the laundry for the week. How about you?
Wolf: I'm doing fine. In fact, I uhh....Wanted to see you for a minute. If you don't mind.
Isabelle: Of course I don't mind. What is you want to see me for?
Wolf: Oh uh....Just wanted to ask you a question is all?
Isabelle: What's your question?
Wolf: ('Sigh') Well, uh.....If you're not doing anything at the moment....I was hoping if you... Wanna spend some quality time with me in meantime. To uhh...get to know each other and whatnot. B-But not to some fancy restaurant or anything like that! I wanna take you this place called La Shy Guy's Café or whatever. It's a coffee place from across the street from here and....I thought it would be.... cool if... we go there together and junk. But I COMPLETELY understand if have a busy schedule ahead or....if you're not really interested in the whole in general-
Isabelle: I would love to go with you.
Wolf: Or maybe if you- (Eyes Suddenly Widened) Wait. What now?
Isabelle: (Giggles Softly) I said I would love to go to café with you, silly~ To tell you the truth, I've been wanting to get to know you too, Mr. O' Donnell.
Wolf: ('Heh') Please. Mr. O' Donnell is my old man's name. Just call me Wolf.
Isabelle: Oh okay. Wolf it is then. Lovely name by the way.
Wolf: (Starts Blushing Again) Oh uh...Thanks. But anyways, you... really want to get to know me better?
Isabelle: (Happily Nodded) Mmhmm. I know you may have a reputation of being rebellious and scary to some here, but I honestly think there's more to you than meets the eye, you know?
Wolf: (Shrugs) I'm not too sure about all of that. But if you're still willing to hang out with someone like me, then I ain't complaining.
Isabelle: (Smiles Brightly) I'm up for anything, Wolfie!~
Wolf: (Raised an Eyebrow in Confusion) "Wolfie?"
Isabelle: (Eyes Begins to Widened Once She Realized What She Just Said) O-Oh my! (Starts Blushing as Well) S-Sorry about that. It's a nickname I thought of calling you for a bit of while now. I-I hope you don't mind.
Wolf: (Gives Isabelle a Soft Smirk on his Face) Not at all.
Flashback Ended
Wolf: Then after a couple of hangouts, meet-ups, and an actual date at the restaurant later, we finally became a couple.
Isabelle: (Giggles Softly) I can't believe Panther written you a list of romantic pick-up lines in Spanish! Did you really thought about saying them all to me?
Wolf: ('Sigh') I dunno. Sort of? Even if I did had time to learn all of that beforehand, I'd still would've find a way to mess it all up. Plus, I thought you wouldn't be into that kind of stuff at the time, so......
Isabelle: Te quiero mucho, mi grande, apuesto, Wolfie~
Wolf: (Genuinely Surprised by Isabelle's Sudden, Yet Fluent Spanish Speaking Skills) Goddamn, Izzy. That was impressive.....But what did that all stand for exactly?
Isabelle: (Giggles Some More Before Hugging Wolf's Arm) It means that "I love you very much, my big, handsome, Wolfie~" (Gives Wolf a Big Kiss on the Cheek)
Wolf: Oh. ('Heh') Right. I....(Starts Blushing a Little) Knew all of that....(Smiles Softly at his Girlfriend) Love you too, Isabelle. (Starts Kissing on the Top of Isabelle's Forehead)
Isabelle: (Giggles Ticklishly By Wolf's Kisses) Wolfie!~ Not in front of Mr. Nook!~
Nook: (Chuckles Lightly) Oh now don't you mind me, Isabelle darling. I, for one, enjoy watching lovely couples interact with one another like this. It's a wonderful feeling indeed. Which reminds me....(Smiles Brightly at the Couple in Front of Him) When's the wedding?
Wolf and Isabelle Immediately stopped what they were doing turn their heads to Tom Nook with completely surprised looks on both of their faces. All while blushing madly red in the process.

You don’t even think about him anymore.
The scalding hot tea cup in your hand could’ve burned off your finger points to the point where you wouldn’t be able to be identified anymore and you wouldn’t even notice. The cool feeling of sheets against your skin. The vibrations from music that’s playing too loudly. The barrage of water droplets in the shower. You couldn’t feel anything anymore, and there was a time where you would feel everything to its fullest extent.
Maybe you couldn’t feel anything anymore because you could still feel his touch on your skin. That was too overwhelming, wasn’t it?
People said that the first thing you forget about a person is their voice. But you could remember Thomas’s voice all too well. You could remember the sound of his laugh when you told a joke that you knew wasn’t that funny. You’d never forget how your name sounded on his voice in between kisses.
It wasn’t likely you would stop thinking about what he looked like, either. No, he was just too memorable that way. Bright eyes and wide grin. You forced yourself to stop thinking about him before you fell in love all over again.
At times like this, you’d stop thinking about the sunshine he created and you would remember the storms. The terrible, horrible storms that washed up in faded photos months later. Tornadoes that ripped through your soul and left you with broken pieces to put back together. Wild fires that made you feel more alive than you had before, but left you with a charred core and third-degree burns.
Even after living through the apocalypse, you knew you’d do it all again if you had the chance.
You don’t think about that evening in his kitchen.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on,” he mumbled in between kisses. “God, you’re so beautiful.”
Thomas could feel the vibrations of your laugh when he placed kisses upon your neck. “Does that line ever work?”
“You telling me it’s not workin’ on you, sweetheart?” The satin of your dress began riding up your thighs as Thomas’s hands travelled further up your legs. The hickey he was currently sucking onto your neck made you lose any ability to speak.
Thomas pulled away just long enough to shrug off his jacket, and then his lips were back on yours, his thumbs sliding the thin straps of your dress off your shoulders. He gently pushed you back against the cool marble of his kitchen counter. Thomas pulled your hips against his.
You gasped his name in between kisses. “Thomas, you don’t want to... you don’t... you don’t want to move to the bedroom?”
“Sweetheart,” he pressed a kiss along your collarbone between every word. “I. Want. You. Right. Here.”
You groaned when you felt his lips leave your skin and cracked open one eye at a time. Thomas stood over you, his hands on either side of your head. You tilted your head to the side.
“What is it?”
He drew his bottom lip into his mouth and shook his head. “Nothin’. Just admiring the view.”
You smacked his chest and rolled your eyes. “Put those lips to better use.”
Thomas did, and you couldn’t help thinking this is going to ruin me. I want it to.
You don’t miss those weekends when you’d visit his family.
“Of course you’re good with children, too,” you rolled your eyes.
Thomas briefly looked up from his two-year-old niece he was playing with. “S’that a problem, sweetheart? I read somewhere that girls find guys who are good with kids attractive. I hired this child actor just to impress you.”
You laughed through your nose and shook your head. “You know what? I wouldn’t put it past you.”
“You know I’d do anything to impress you,” he said with a lopsided grin. Thomas turned back to his niece and waved a rattle in the air above her, making her giggle loudly.
“Is there anything you’re not good at?” You leaned against a wall and took a second to appreciate just how perfect this moment felt.
“M’not very good at Pretty, Pretty Princess.” He admitted with a shrug. “You always seem to get all your jewelry pieces and the tiara before I can. I don’t get that.”
“It’s a luck game, Thomas.” These were the days where you couldn’t stop smiling.
“Still think it’s rigged,” he mumbled under his breath. “I think we should play again. I have a new strategy that I think will get me that tiara this time.”
You hummed softly. “Maybe after lunch. And speaking of lunch, I should go help Lucy out. Set the table at the very least.”
Thomas glanced up at you and furrowed his brows. “Now don’t go and be too helpful. I swear my sisters already like you more than me. M’afraid they’re going to try and replace me.”
“Can you blame them?” You teased.
He laughed and picked up his niece, holding her closely to his chest. Thomas walked over to you and placed a chaste kiss on your cheek.
“No, I can’t. You’re perfect, sweetheart.”
And you’ve kept your distance since the breakup.
Once more you feel his arm laid around your waist like a laurel wreath or the best of your plans that had gone awry.
If it wasn’t for the cool air drafting through the cracked open window, the discarded tie on the hardwood floor, and the steady breathing of his body beside you, you would’ve thought you were dreaming. Well, it was less of a dream and more of a nightmare that had been haunting you for months.
Thomas shifted his weight on the bed, alerting you to his state of consciousness. You shut your eyes quickly, hoping he’d believe you were still asleep. It would be easier if he just left without saying anything. You could both pretend like this relapse had never happened.
One hand gripping your waist, Thomas leaned forward and pressed his lips against your skin.
He left kisses against your neck like he wanted to leave you with something more to remember him by than just the scars on your heart.
You kept your eyes closed when you felt his weight leave the bed. You kept your eyes closed when you heard him picking up his scattered clothes from around the room. You kept your eyes closed when you knew he was pausing in the doorframe of your bedroom, watching you “sleep” and wondering what things could’ve been like if he hadn’t messed up.
It was only when you heard the front door of your apartment shut behind him that you opened your eyes.
Immediately, you wished you had kept them shut. The empty bed was an open wound that had never scabbed over. There was no trace of Thomas left in your apartment. No proof that all the events that had occurred the previous night hadn’t just been in your head.
You didn’t cry. You would’ve welcomed tears with open arms at this point. Anything would be better with the cloying taste of emptiness that was left in the back of your throat.
You don’t replay scenes from that night again and again and again and again in your head.
“We’ve both made mistakes, sweetheart.” The enchanting nickname you used to love was being twisted against you, and you hated it.
“Don’t compare me to you. I’m nothing like you.” The words were spat out like venom.
“It takes two people to destroy a relationship!” Thomas’s voice raised a few levels.
“But I never slept with your secretary!”
The words struck him like a knife to the heart. Thomas hadn’t realized you had known about his affair. Of course you did. It all made sense. The guilt that had been building up for weeks now finally reached a breaking point when he saw the hurt look on your face.
Any anger Thomas held dissipated, and you turned away from him, not wanting him to see just how much he had broken you. Something in you wanted him to yell at you, tell you you were wrong. You knew the truth, but you desperately wanted Thomas to lie to you one more time. It could be good like that. It would be better.
The denial that you prayed for never came.
“Could you forgive me?” The words were nearly silent, like anything louder would break the fragile tension between the two of you.
“I would do anything you wanted me to do. Of course I could forgive you. Just don’t ask me too. Because forgiving you would absolutely destroy me.” You told the truth and decided then and there that you didn’t like telling the truth.
“So we’re over, then?” Thomas leaned against the counter, and you didn’t know this at the time, but if he hadn’t leaned against the counter, he was sure he would’ve collapsed.
“Yeah. Yeah, we are.” You wiped at the tears on your cheeks and hoped he couldn’t hear them in your voice.
“I guess this is goodbye.”
You never loved him.
Not when you came home after a long day to find him playing the violin. Especially not then.
Thomas didn’t even notice when you walked into the apartment. He got like that when he was playing. He wouldn’t be able to hear anything over the sound of horsehair on strings, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
You set down your bag on the kitchen counter and pulled out a chair. After dealing with your coworkers who were incapable of the smallest tasks, you were ready to collapse. Thomas’s music had a lulling affect, and you had almost fallen asleep right there in the kitchen when he stopped playing.
“Hey, sweetheart. I didn’t hear you come in,” Thomas said as he began putting his violin back in its case. “How was your day?”
You slowly opened one eye to see his smiling face. “It was good.”
It wasn’t completely a lie. When you would look back on that day, all you could remember was the evening you spent with Thomas. The sound of his violin playing some vaguely familiar tune. Your loud laughter that must’ve woken the neighbors. The food Thomas claimed to be “fine cuisine.”
“It’s delicious, sweetheart, don’t even try denying it,” Thomas pressed a few buttons on the microwave and it whirred to life.
“Thomas, it came out of a cardboard box, and the ‘cheese’ was a powder!”
“It’s an easy and efficient meal, if anything, I think that adds to the appeal.” Thomas may have been a star in the courtroom, but you were struggling to see how he ever won any arguments.
“I know you can cook. And I mean real food. Remember that time you made Italian for our anniversary?” You reminded him.
“That was a good meal, wasn’t it?” Thomas mused.
You nodded. “You made the pasta by hand. I think that was the best dinner I’ve ever had.”
“Well, I’m about to top that dinner.” Thomas pulled the hot bowl of macaroni out of the microwave and set it in front of you.
You looked down at the bowl, then back at Thomas. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“M’not.” He shook his head and handed you a spoon. Thomas leaned forward on the counter, waiting for your review to come in.
You laughed and shook your head. “You’re ridiculous.”
What you meant by that was “I love you,” and Thomas knew.
You don’t love him.
If you had a nickel for every time you told yourself that, you would’ve been able to move out of this apartment that still felt like him. You’d have enough money to move out of this godforsaken city that always felt like him.
He had left his mark on everything in your life. You couldn’t escape him. The coffeeshop near your work reminded you of him. Your favorite song on the radio reminded you of him. Board games reminded you of him. Your own kitchen reminded you of him. And every god damn box of Kraft macaroni and cheese reminded you of him.
Even in a city with a population of 8.3 million people, you couldn’t avoid him. Occasionally, you’d see Thomas walking into a grocery store while you were on your way to the dry cleaners. All the glue, tape, and bandages you had used to put your heart together again would fall apart.
You told yourself that one day you would get better. That one day you wouldn’t fall apart at the mere sight of him. Who knows, maybe one day you’d be able to hold an entire conversation with him.
Thomas wasn’t a mess like you were, even though you hoped he would be. From what you’d heard from mutual friends, he seemed to be handling the break-up well. The knowledge that he was fine when you weren’t was another stab in the heart.
But maybe those same friends told Thomas that you were doing fine as well. On all accounts, you looked like you were doing fine. It was only when you locked yourself away in your Thomas-free bedroom that you could really be honest with yourself.
And if tissues filled your room, who would know? You were the only one who had to face the unmade bedsheets and piles of unfolded laundry. If anyone asked, you kept your room spotless.
And if you asked yourself, you would say that you didn’t love him anymore.
The lies we tell ourselves.

i knew you (ron weasley x reader) part 6
part 1/masterlist
summary: Ron inexplicably broke up with Cassiah Black just days before their final year at Hogwarts, leaving them both with broken hearts and no future plans, but too stubborn and too proud to fix things. The centuries-old rivalry between their Gryffindor and Slytherin houses only make things worse, and friendships are truly put to the test. Will they find their way back together before the year ends, or will the end of their time at Hogwarts be the last time they ever see the each other?
warnings: angst, drug/alcohol use, eventual smut ;)
CHAPTER 6 - awkward situations
I hope I cross your mind when you're too high and wide awake I hope you wonder if I'm happy, if I'm still the same And when you turn over, see her there I hope you think of me and how you wish it would've ended differently
i don't miss u, Caro __________________________
"Blimey, Neville, stop staring. She's gonna think you're a complete creep."
Neville blushed, immediately snapping back to looking at Ron and shielding his face in embarrassment. "M'not staring," he insisted, "She just happened to catch my eye, is all."
Ron snorted, leaning back in his chair and giving the boy a knowing look, "She must happen to catch your eye a lot, then, Longbottom."
The 'she' in question, Luna Lovegood, paid the boys no mind. She was completely entranced by the book she was reading, blocking out the chaos occurring around her as students filed into the classroom. Her wavy blonde hair was falling in a curtain around her face, protecting her from the outside world.
Neville sighed, knowing that trying to play it off was useless. He was a horrible liar. "Just please don't mention it to anyone. I'm never gonna get up the courage to take to her and its... embarrassing," he admitted, his cheeks turning pink.
Ron nodded and clapped a hand against Neville's back, "I wouldn't dream of it, mate." Especially, he thought, since Neville had generously failed to mention the way that he spent all of their class together stealing glances at Cassiah from across the room.
Speaking of which, where was she? The lecture was about to start, and being a prefect and all, she usually made it a point to not be late. It was usually more like Ron to be late than Cassiah – she was kind of the brains of the operation – but this semester he had made it his goal to focus more on his schoolwork and hopefully get his grades up before graduation.
Almost as if on cue, Cassiah burst into the room in a flurry of flying robes and unorganized stacks of paper and books. She looked flustered, her hair pulled into a disgrace of a bun on the top of her head and her robes flailing behind her. Ron still thought she looked beautiful, although it did remind him of the time she got too fucked up at a party last year and thought she was going to throw up. Ron had pulled her hair back into the world's worst bun – not dissimilar to this one – just in case, but she'd ended up sipping water and pulling it together. She always did.
Cassiah's normal seat with the Slytherins was taken. Frankly, Ron was surprised that the guys hadn't saved her seat, but then again, she was late and it was Malfoy and Crabbe he was talking about. Cassiah's gaze travelled over the room searching for an empty seat close to the front when Ron was hit with a horrifying realization. This was a pretty big class, and he and Neville were pretty much the only people in it without a whole friend group. So, not only were there no seats in the front of the classroom, but there were no empty seats anywhere. Except, that is, at his and Neville's table.
"Bloody hell," he cursed under his breath and at that exact moment he watched Cassiah realize what was about to have to happen. Neville looked vaguely nauseous.
And then she was walking towards them.
Cassiah forced her lips up into a tiny, awkward smile, and Ron ducked his head, not wanting to look. He couldn't look. She stood in front of the table for a moment, commenting simply, "I guess I'll be sitting here, then. Hello, Neville."
Neville let out a shaky, "Hi, Cassiah. How are you?"
"I'm good, thank you," she replied. She looked like she was choking for a second before finally adding, "Hi Ron."
Ron was forced to look up from his textbook that he was suddenly very interested in, "Hi, Cassie," he said quickly. He could've sworn he saw a dash of pain rush over her face at the use of his old nickname, but he'd never called her anything else. He must've been wrong though, because she dropped her books down at the table and took her seat without another word. It felt as though every eye in the room was watching them.
Cassiah must have noticed this, too, because she craned her neck to look over her shoulder and say aloud to the class, "Alright, everyone. The show's over." A few people chuckled nervously in response, and Ron started to, as well–
And that was when he saw it. With her neck exposed at this angle and her hair up in a bun, it was on full display for him to see. He shook his head quickly and squinted, not wanting to believe it. There was no way that this was real. His stomach dropped down to his feet and his throat swole up.
There it was on Cassiah's beautiful, tanned neck. A massive, purplish bruise that he instantly recognized as a love bite. Now he was going to throw up.
She turned back towards the table and they locked eyes for a moment. For a moment, blue met hazel and the whole world stopped.
But Ron felt his eyes beginning to shine with tears he wasn't willing to let her see, and just as quickly as the moment had begun, it ended as he turned away and began stuffing his books into his bag. She'd totally seen him staring and now he looked pathetic.
"Ron, what are you doing?" Neville asked, concerned and completely oblivious to what had just happened. He had been fortunate enough to not be at the right angle to see the absolute monstrosity on Cassiah's neck. Whatever guy had left it there must have had some sort of vampire fetish.
Ron fumbled over his words as he practically jumped up out of his seat and slung his back haphazardly over his shoulder, "I don't feel well all of a sudden. I reckon it's a stomach bug. I've got to go see Madam Pomfrey."
So much for prioritizing his schoolwork, he thought bitterly. Three weeks into school and he was already ditching class over a girl. He left the room in such a hurry that he didn't hear or see a single thing anyone might've said to him. His blood was pumping in his ears so loudly that he couldn't hear anything over the ringing.
At least he wasn't fully lying about the stomach bug thing, because he did puke in the bathroom once he made it safely out of the classroom. It didn't make him feel any less heartbroken, though.
___________
"So Cassiah is definitely seeing someone new," Ron confessed to Harry at dinner later that day.
Harry furrowed his brow, giving Ron a strange look. "Yeah... I already knew that, mate. She went on that date with Ernie Macmillan," he said calmly. Ron shook his head before staring at his feet, willing himself to get his emotions under control. Harry saw through him and prodded, "Judging by the reaction, I'm guessing there's something you're not telling me?"
Ron swallowed and looked back up, but still refused to make eye contact with Harry. He couldn't bring himself to do it for some reason. He nodded, "Yeah. A massive hickey on her neck this morning in Potions. I had the pleasure of a front row seat because she was late and had to sit with me and Neville."
"Shit," Harry said plainly, "That's why you've been off tonight. You've barely even touched your dinner."
Ron pursed his lips together, staring down at his still-full plate of roast beef – his favorite. But he still felt sick from the morning's events and he couldn't bring himself to eat it. He poked lamely at it with his fork.
He knew he should eat – he had Quidditch practice tonight and he needed his strength. Plus, he should be ravenous after heaving up breakfast and not eating all day, but he felt nothing.
"I don't know who it even could be," he stated instead of answering Harry's comment, "I mean, Macmillan just doesn't seem like the type to be so aggressive on the first date, but who else could it be? I hadn't heard of her seeing anyone else."
Harry considered. "Yeah... But, and please don't take this the wrong way. But you don't really run in the same circles anymore, so I don't know how you would hear, anyways."
"Thank you so much for pointing that out, mate," murmured Ron, and cursing under his breath, "Bloody hell, what am I becoming?"
The sat in silence for a few minutes, Ron picking at his food like a bird. He listened quietly at the other boys talked and laughed boisterously amongst themselves. He was honestly a bit dazed out, staring at the reflection of the candles in his glass, when he heard Seamus call out his name,
"Ron. Black is walking over here, just warning you, buddy."
And for the second time today, Ron looked over to see Cassiah approaching him. This time, she looked even more nervous that the last. What could she possibly want? he thought, feeling his jaw set tight. Whatever she needed, she could ask her new boyfriend.
"Um... hello," he stuttered when she stopped in front of him, all plans of acting cool and detaching flying out the window the second he was in her presence.
"Hi," she said back, smiling softly and then letting her gaze flutter nervously to all the other Gryffindor guys. Ron realized, watching her, that this was the first time she'd seen any of his friends since the break up. They used to be her friends, too.
Bloody hell, she was speaking again. "Ron, I heard you say you were sick earlier when you left class. I know we're not really... talking right now," she paused, pursing her lips together as if working up the courage to speak, "But I know your grades are really important to you this year and I just wanted to offer you my notes. I take pretty good ones, if you remember," she offered, laughing awkwardly at the end. She was smiling, but something about her energy was making Ron feel nervous in return.
"O-Oh," he stammered, mentally smacking himself for acting like a bloody idiot, "Thank you, Cassie. That would be great, actually." He paused for a moment, and then plastered a smile onto his face so he didn't look as rude as he felt.
She nodded for a second, almost as if she was expecting him to say no, and then thrust forward a handful of papers to him. He took them from her, studying them for a moment. Same magnificent penmanship and color-coordinated note-taking system. So part of her was still his same Cassie, despite the blemish defiling her beautiful neck.
"Thank you so much," he said, smiling up at her, "I'll get them back to you as soon as I'm through with them."
"Aright," she stated.
"Aright," he reassured.
She bit her lip before finally saying, "Take care, Ron."
"Take care, Cassie," he replied before she turned on her heal and walked away.
When he turned back to his friends at the table, none of them were breathing. They were probably too scared.
"What?" he remarked, "Just cause we broke up we can't be friendly?"
Harry raised his eyebrows at him and answered, "We never said that. I just didn't think that you wanted to be friends with her, especially after the hickey situation earlier today."
Ron sighed. Harry was partially right. It really hurt him to know that Cassiah was moving on, but perhaps she was the wrong person to be angry with. Their interaction had left him feeling a lot better about things. He was the one who'd pushed her away and forced to be open to other options. At least she'd picked someone as benign and neutral as Ernie to move on with. Perhaps the only person he should really harbor any bad feelings towards is himself.
"Well," he considered, "It seems like she's trying to be friendly, and maybe if she's trying, I should try to get over my feelings to be friends, too. It's better than being enemies."
And he meant it. If he could get over his feelings for her and the hurt he felt when he thought of her, it would be better to be friends with Cassie than not have her in his life at all. So that's what he would do.
He dug into his dinner, suddenly having his appetite back and ready for Quidditch practice.

So they're talking again! That's a step in the right direction... right...?
We'll just have to wait and see ;)
Sorry that this chapter is sooo short. The content for the next chapter just didn't seem to make sense with the rest of this one. It'll be up soon, though.
Thank you so much for being so supportive! xx jenna

Ten Things    IV
Summary: If there’s one thing you have to know about Harvey Kinkle, it’s that he rarely thinks things through. So when he meets (and falls for) Sabrina Spellman on his first day of Baxter High and finds out that she can’t date anyone until her tempestuous sister does, it seems like the obvious solution is to get someone to date her so he can go out with Sabrina. A not so obvious choice for the challenge is Caliban, but, hey, it’s not like Harvey thought that far.
Masterlist Prev. | Part 4
Word-count: 4.5k+
A/N: pls listen to Wish You Were Sober in the background whilst reading this part + whatever coming of age music you like (bonus points if you choose Ribs by Lorde and/or Strawberries & Cigarettes)

It seemed that when it came to Sabrina Spellman, Harvey would always be nervous. He had these lame little butterflies whenever she tutored him (that spiked when she’d take his hand to correct something). He almost threw up before their next meeting after the head-kissing debacle. And now he was supposed to pick her up for the costume party.
Three costume changes, a near heart attack, and fifteen minutes spent brushing his teeth and fixing his hair later, and Harvey stood outside her house. Her very creepy house. He'd just reached for the door knocker again when it swung open.
Ambrose stood there, giving Harvey a very knowing smile as he looked him up and down. “Afraid she’s not here, friend,” he said, not sounding too disappointed or afraid. “Though in an outfit like that I can’t imagine why.”
Harvey looked down at his jeans, dark t-shirt, and leather jacket and suddenly wished he’d gone with Tommy’s old Captain America costume even though his hair was the wrong color. He reached up and adjusted his hardhat. “It was kind of last-minute,” Harvey admitted awkwardly. “Anyway, uh, what do you mean she’s not here?”
“That she left with one Nicholas Scratch about fifteen minutes ago,” Ambrose said. He nodded gravely before continuing, “Though my other cousin is here if you-”
“No, I’m good thanks,” Harvey said quickly. Ambrose raised an eyebrow and Harvey felt he had to explain, so in a quiet voice he added, “She kinda scares me.”
“Oh, Harvey, you don’t have to suck up to me,” you said with a very mischievous smile as you walked around Ambrose. Harvey went through the four stages of shock as he took in your outfit: A blue and gold cheerleading uniform (weird enough) with the letters DK on your chest and your hair and makeup perfectly done. Sabrina must have done the hair and makeup because you looked like an entirely different person like this, except that your mouth was covered in blood and you wore white-out contacts and a pair of fangs. “She doesn’t listen to me anyway.”
It took Harvey a second to realize that he was supposed to answer you, and, in that second, you and Ambrose let out matching (almost evil) laughs and started cracking jokes about how innocent Harvey was. It was hard to think of innocence when fake blood was running down your neck. At least, Harvey hoped it was fake.
“So, uh, do you need a ride?” Harvey asked in an attempt to recover from the millions of conflicting thoughts he had and his earlier social blunder.
“You’re offering to spend time with me in an enclosed space?” you asked, looking slightly taken aback. Harvey nodded almost immediately. “Wow, you must really like her, huh?”
“No, that’s not what- well, I mean, yeah, I like her,” Harvey stammered. Your smile got a bit wider as you and Ambrose shared some side-eye at his expense. “But that’s not why I’m offering. I just- you know, I’m already here. And the environment is in shambles. So carpooling is, like, the responsible thing to do-”
You laughed and untangled yourself from Ambrose to grab your things. “You’re cute, Harvey Kinkle.” You waved at Ambrose and started closing the door as you stepped outside, ignoring his cries to play nice with Harvey. “I get what she sees in you.”
“Thank you?”
---
This costume party was all Sabrina had thought about for the entire year, and now that she was here all she could think about was Harvey. What was that about? She was here with Nick. Her Nick. She should be having the time of her life listening to him talking about his latest modeling gig, not wondering if Harvey was going to show up. Or what he’d be dressed as if he did. Or-
“Hey, are you even listening to me?” Nick asked teasingly, grabbing her hand and pulling her closer to him.
“Of course! You were talking about how your agent thinks you could get that underwear deal,” Sabrina lied. That was almost all Nick talked about, so it wasn’t that hard to guess. Harvey would have been more difficult to lie to, but Harvey would’ve drawn her flowers and laughed her distraction off. “And they’d be idiots not to take you,” she said, stumbling into Nick’s arms after he pulled her closer.
“Thank you! That’s what I said but my agent …” Nick carried on talking through their rather forced slow dance, but Sabrina stopped listening when she saw Harvey walk in.
He looked so handsomely awkward in his miner outfit as he said ‘No, but thank you’ to all the girls offering him punch and dances. His dark eyes looked so hopeful as he scanned the room and it broke Sabrina’s heart when that hope went out as their eyes met.
She hurriedly separated from Nick, almost tripping over her feet in her rush, but Harvey was gone by the time she did. And when Sabrina looked back at Nick, he looked annoyed and confused.
“If you didn’t want to hear about what Estelle said, all you had to do was say,” Nick said a deep-set frown.
“It’s not that. I just thought I-”
Nick shook his head and started walking away. “Whatever. I’m gonna go get a drink.”
Sabrina let out a breath, suddenly feeling very alone and exposed in this crowded room. Her spirits lifted when she looked around and saw you outside with a very attractive blonde guy, and - better yet - you weren’t telling him to piss off. He must have been Caliban, but he looked very different in his flowy white shirt and blue jeans from your description of ‘he looks like an asshole, but the kind you want to makeout with just to get him to stop talking.’
At least one of you was having a good night.
---
“So what exactly are you dressed as?” you asked, taking a sip from your solo cup in an attempt to come off as cool and not annoyingly flustered by Caliban. Saying something mean would get you out of this mess for sure. “Because you look like one of those idiots from the cover of a trashy lady novel.”
“While I wasn’t going for idiotic, that’s exactly what I am,” Caliban said with a smile. He took the cup from your hand and took a sip, eyes twinkling mischievously as he did. “You seem surprised.”
You shrugged, chiding yourself for thoughts of Caliban’s lips on the spot where yours had been five seconds ago. “I didn’t have you pegged as a romance novel kind of guy.”
“And what kind of guy is that?”
His question was innocent enough, but it was the way he asked it that made your heart skip an irritating beat. Caliban was distracting enough with half his chest exposed and pretty white lace constantly drawing your attention to it. And, if that wasn’t enough, his dumb blonde curls had framed his face when he leaned in to ask you.
“The kind of guy who carries around a lighter because he likes to burn things,” you said, taking your cup back and taking the last sip to spite him.
Caliban looked amused in the corner of your eye as he drew back. “Well, we can’t all be demonic cheerleaders, princess,” he said. “Assuming that’s what you’re dressed as.”
“You’re close. I’ll give you a hint,” you said and turned back to him. You held out your hand and asked for his lighter. Caliban didn’t say anything as he placed it in your hand, but he didn’t break eye contact. You uncapped it, lit it, and held it up to your mouth. The flame got dangerously close to your tongue before you blew it out. In your best Jennifer Check voice, you said, “I’m a god.”
Caliban started laughing as you capped the lighter. “Well, if anyone is going to make killing boys nearly as attractive as Megan Fox, it’s you,” he said. “Though I don’t remember the white contacts.”
“I took some creative liberties,” you said with a small shrug. You reached for his hand and gave his lighter back to him.
After you pulled your hand away, Caliban shook his head and held the lighter back out to you. “You should keep it. Far more attractive when it's with you.”
“What about all the pretty things you like to set on fire?” you asked.
Caliban took a step closer and lifted his hand to tuck some hair behind your ear. He took his time, keeping his eyes on his hands before looking at your lips and then finally meeting your eyes. “They’ll have to take the backseat to another pretty little thing.”
“I’m going to get another drink,” you blurted out as you took a step back. Not your smoothest move, but you needed to get the hell out of there before you did something dumb like kiss him. “Stay here.”
You could hear the smirk on his face when Caliban said, “Whatever you want.”
Luckily, it only took a few frightened looks from the underclassmen to renew your confidence. The contacts were doing their job of unsettling people perfectly, and it made your night to see people who were checking out moments before start squirming. Until you reached Nick Scratch.
Despite the fact that you knew he was afraid of you, he didn’t squirm. He just looked at you with that smug face that made Sabrina fall for him. You hated him.
“And what are you dressed as tonight, kitty cat?” Nick asked, deliberately emphasizing the old nickname. It made your skin crawl.
You started answering when you looked up at him and pretended to be shocked. “Wait, Nick- was that … did your hairline just recede?” You pointed at his hairline and grabbed two cans of soda while he checked.
Nick didn’t try to follow you when you started walking away, but he did start talking loud enough for you to hear him over the music. “You know, your sister likes my hair just fine. She even-”
You turned around and gave him your harshest glare as you stomped closer. “Stay away from my sister.”
“Woah-” Nick held his hands up in surrender. “I’ll stay away from your sister,” he promised. He took a step closer and lowered his voice. “But I can’t guarantee she’ll stay away from me.”
He bumped your shoulder as he walked past you, and you would’ve thrown something at him if he didn’t get swallowed up by the crowd of people racing towards a fight in the other room. Instead, you opted for cursing Nick out with every profanity you could think of as you slammed the sodas down and started looking for something a little stronger.
An over-eager junior was offering you something to drink from his tray of assorted bad alcohol when you saw Caliban again. He was still annoyingly attractive, but he was very clearly pissed that you'd ditched him. Oh well.
“What is this?” he asked as you downed one of the drinks. It tasted disgusting but you refused to pull a face in front of him. “I’ve been looking all over the place for you.”
“Maybe you should go look for someone who actually likes you,” you said without looking at him as you downed another drink and the junior cheered you on. You grabbed another drink, despite Caliban’s protests, and disappeared into the masses.
---
Of all the ways Caliban saw this night going, you ditching him for a bottle of cheap tequila and Harvey looking like someone kicked his puppy hadn’t been his most likely pick. Apparently, Sabrina had blown him off for Nicholas, but Caliban wasn’t listening to Harvey's tragic story so much as he was trying to track you down. He left him with a very surprised vampire named Theo and focused his attention on finding you.
“Hey, James Dean!” Nicholas yelled as he slapped Caliban on the back with unrequited fondness. If he had any awareness at all, it wasn't picking up on the glare Caliban gave him. “How did you get her to do it?”
“Do what?” Caliban asked, promising himself that he could punch Nicholas in the mouth after he made sure you weren’t throwing up in the bushes.
“Act like a human.” Caliban would have to table that promise because Nick was going to- “Oh, yeah!”
The music started blaring from the dining room and Nicholas took off to see some girl dancing on the table. Only, that just wasn’t some girl. That was you, doing a very non-PTA approved cheer for the people around you.
Caliban rushed to get to you, but all you did was grab the drawstrings on Caliban’s shirt and run one of them across your lips before standing back up and continuing your dance, ignoring his repeated requests to come down. The only time you looked at him was when you stepped too far back and fell off the table, hitting your head on the chandelier as you went down.
Caliban caught you and looked at him with the saddest look in your eyes he’d ever seen. You were so uncharacteristically vulnerable after who knows how much alcohol and a head injury.  “You know, you’ve got a bit of gold in your eyes, Sparky,” you said softly, lifting your hand to the side of his face.
“Hey, what about our show?” Nick hollered from the safety of his pack with Billy and the other idiots. They made a few more comments as Caliban carried you out to the garden to get fresh air.
You kept trying to push him away, but as soon as Caliban set you down on the low brick wall, your hands tightened around his shirt. “Don’t go. I just need to lie down somewhere.”
“If you lie down now, you’ll fall asleep,” Caliban said, prying your fingers off his shirt one at a time as you argued that sleep was good. “Not if you have a concussion, princess. Can you-”
“Hey, we need to talk,” Harvey interrupted. He was surprised when you latched onto his sleeve and let him know that his hat was askew.
“I’m a little busy right now, Harvey,” Caliban said through gritted teeth as he untangled you from Harvey. You didn't want to let go, and you were just as stubborn when you were smashed as when you were sober.
“I see that but can you give me like one second?” Harvey asked.
“Aww, go talk to him!” you hiccuped. “I’m fine. I’ve got these hydrated-" You frowned. "These hurgerated-”
“Hydrangeas?” Harvey asked, still confused.
“Hydrangeas!” You beamed at him, which looked slightly terrifying with your smudged makeup and bloody face. “Thank you! I’ve got these hiiigh-drangeas to keep me company.”
Reluctantly, Caliban sighed and walked a few feet away with Harvey. He was still making sure that you were upright when Harvey started babbling.
“It’s off. The deal’s off, okay?” Harvey finished. “Sabrina never liked me. She liked Nick this whole time but I thought that, you know, after all this she’d give me a shot but she didn’t and-”
Caliban cut Harvey off before his head exploded and you fell over. “Harvey, do you like her?”
“Yeah…” Harvey said, sounding confused.
“And is she worth all this trouble?”
“Well, I thought she was. I mean, of course, she is. But you know-”
“Either she is, or she isn’t.” Caliban put a hand on Harvey’s shoulder and Harvey somehow looked even more confused by the touch. “First of all, Nicholas is not half the man that you are. He's an asshole. And secondly, don’t let anyone ever make you feel like you don’t deserve what you want.” He put his other hand on Harvey and shook him slightly as he said, “So go for it.”
Before Harvey could respond, Caliban saw you falling into the hydrangeas in his peripheral vision and dashed to save you from another head injury.
You laughed as he held onto you and twirled the strings of his shirt around your finger before getting very quiet. The same vulnerability shone through as you looked at him. “Could you take me where the music isn't too loud?”
“Of course.”
Caliban helped you to your feet and almost carried you through the crowd of people to get out to the front, shooting Harvey a not so subtle glance to make sure he made up his mind. He helped you the neighborhood playground across the street while you mumbled about how opprobrious it was to have to be carried out of some high school party.
“Opprobrious,” Caliban repeated, shaking his head. “Leave it to you to use big words when you’re smashed.”
“If I were smashed, could I do this?” you asked, promptly untangling yourself and falling down into the grass a second after you tried to show off. “Ow,” you said in disbelief.
Caliban bent over to help you up and you pushed him off with one hand and pulled him closer with the other. As a result, Caliban came crashing to the ground. He did his best not to crush you as he landed, which you found extremely funny.
Your mouth was tilted up to the sky as you laughed. The street lamps lit up your smile and Caliban couldn’t help but notice how pretty it made you look. You caught him looking at you and fell quiet again. You turned to look back at him, not saying anything at first.
“Why are you being so nice to me?” you asked softly, tucking one hand under your head and - tentatively, gingerly - reaching out with your other.
Caliban looked down at your outstretched hand as you started playing with his shirt again. He found himself wishing you reached out for him and not his shirt. “Because you have a drunken concussion and someone needs to look after you.”
“Why does it have to be you?” you asked, frowning at the knot you'd created. “It’s not like you care if I never wake up.”
“Of course, I do,” Caliban said, leaning closer like he was going to tell you a secret. “If you didn’t wake up, I’d have to start talking to girls who actually like me.”
You scoffed and threw his shirt back at Caliban. “Like you could find one,” you said as you rolled to your feet.
“See, who needs affection when I have blind hatred?” Caliban asked as he followed you to the swing set. He wrapped his hands around each of the chains of your swing as he leaned down to speak to you. “Why would I want someone else’s affection when I have your prejudice?”
“Just let me breathe for a second and then I’m gonna say something so mean that you-” You frowned and shook your head, looking down at the ground. “I just need a minute, alright?”
“Alright.”
Caliban took a step back and let himself think for a moment. As rocky as this night had been, he thought it was going fairly well until he found you three drinks in with a junior. He didn’t have time to dwell on why you ditched him, though, because you were falling backward and he had to dive forward to catch you.
You started laughing as you righted yourself and Caliban swore. He sat in the swing next to you and took a deep breath when he was sure you weren’t going to fall over again. “So what did Nicholas say to drive you to drink?” he asked, nudging you with the toe of his shoe.
You rolled your eyes. “Nick just has to open his mouth to make me want to drink,” you mumbled.
“But usually you resort to a witty comeback and not tequila,” Caliban said as quietly snarky as he could. “What made this different?”
“I just … I hate him,” you admitted. “And my sister …”
“Your sister?” Caliban asked, turning back to face you. You’d already started leaning on your chain with your eyes closed. Not only were your eyes closed, but you were seconds away from falling on your face. “Oh, shit. No, no, no, I need you to wake up. Hey, look at me. You need to wake up.”
“Mm hey,” you said quietly, looking up at him and smiling. “You know, your eyes-”
You cut yourself off by vomiting on the grass just in front of his shoes. Caliban pulled a face and tried not to sound too disgusted as he said, “Have a bit of gold in them?”
“Yeah, how’d you know?”
---
Sabrina stood with Prudence while the party died down. She hadn’t seen you since your table dancing incident but according to a quick text from your phone, Caliban made sure you got some air and took you home. With you gone and her mad at Nick for how he acted with you, that left her without a ride.
“Hey, a few of us are going to Jarrett’s,” Nick said. He put one arm around Sabrina and the other around Prudence. “You ready to go?”
“Oh, thanks, but I have to be home in twenty minutes or my aunts will have my head,” Sabrina lied.
“Well, I don’t have a curfew or overprotective family,” Prue said slyly. Her smile shifted from Sabrina to Nick.
Nick shot a glance at Sabrina and she shrugged. “I can’t tonight,” she said.
“Damn …” Nick sighed and looked over at Prudence. “Well, do you wanna go?”
“I’d love to,” Prudence said, sliding her hand into Nick’s and leading him away. Sabrina would have argued if she cared about him or thought it would make a difference. When Prudence wanted something, she got it.
The only thing Sabrina did care about was how she was going to get home. Her options were slowly dwindling and her aunts would ground her for life if they saw the kind of party she was at.
“Having fun tonight?” Harvey asked as he walked past her, still glum from earlier.
“Yeah, tons,” Sabrina said with a sigh. Harvey kept walking so she rushed to keep up with him. “Hey, Harvey, I know … I know I don’t deserve it but do you think you could give me a ride home?”
Harvey let out a breath and turned to face her. Sabrina braced herself for what he’d say, for the moment that gentle, sweet Harvey would turn out to be no better than Nick. That moment didn’t happen.
“Sure,” he said with a shrug. “Come on, my truck’s parked down the street.”
Sabrina didn’t know what to say as they walked to the truck, so she just didn’t say anything. Her hand brushed Harvey’s a few times and it broke her heart when he yanked his hand away. She deserved it, though; she broke his heart first.
They didn’t speak as Harvey drove, and it took them a few seconds once the engine was off to say something.
“You never really wanted to go out with me, did you?” Harvey asked, looking at the steering wheel instead of her. “It was always Nick, wasn’t it?”
“It used to be Nick,” Sabrina admitted. “But he’s not very nice to me anymore. He just … I don't know.” She looked out the windshield and shrugged. “And you drove me home after I blew you off. I don’t deserve how nice you are to me.”
“No, you don’t,” Harvey said. He turned to face Sabrina and she knew that this was the moment. “Just because you’re beautiful and smart doesn’t mean that you can treat people like they don’t matter. I- I really liked you, you know? Even when people said you were selfish. Or that you were using me.”
Sabrina sucked it up and turned to look at him. It didn’t surprise her that people said those things, and it didn't surprise her that Harvey defended her. He was the kind of guy who did that for people he cared about, not that he'd be doing it for her again any time soon. “I’m sorry.”
Harvey was quiet. His jaw tightened for a moment and then he looked away. “Yeah, well, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not like you liked me much, to begin with.”
“I do like you, Harvey,” Sabrina said. She resisted the urge to reach out to him. “I like you a lot. That’s the problem.”
“Oh,” Harvey said quietly, frowning. “I’m sorry.”
Sabrina laughed and leaned over before she could talk herself out of it again. She cupped his face and pulled him into a kiss, which he returned after a second of hesitation. It was sweet, clumsy, and over too soon.
“Don’t apologize,” Sabrina whispered when she pulled away. She gave him another smile and gathered her things. “Thanks for the ride.”
---
“Here we are,” Caliban said as he parked the car in front of the old house. “Home sweet home.”
You pulled a face at the mortuary sign and turned away from the window. “Ugh, don’t you just want to keep driving?” you said. “Maybe to the ER? I’ve heard alcohol poisoning is a real bitch.”
“That it is but considering you puked your stomach contents all over my shoes, I think you’re safe,” Caliban said with a smile. Though he knew he’d take you wherever you wanted if he knew it wasn’t just the residual alcohol in your system talking. You just shrugged without saying anything. “Why don’t you want to go inside?”
“My family is … complicated,” you said. You started picking at the sleeves of your cheerleader outfit instead of looking at him. “My parents died when I was little and my aunts took us all in. They’re great, really, they just want me to be someone I’m not.”
“Like who?” Caliban asked.
You sat straighter in your seat and put on a dashing smile before imitating your sister. “I’m Sabrina. I get good grades and don’t punch people even when they deserve it.” If the voice was accurate, it had nothing on the imitation laugh. It was downright creepy with all your smudged demonic makeup, but then you deflated into your seat and started mumbling profanities and Caliban knew you were back to yourself.
“Well, no offense to your sister, but I think the whole people-pleasing act is overrated,” Caliban said. “There are better things to do with your time.”
“You really think so?” you asked quietly. When Caliban looked over at you, all your snark had faded away to your familiar drunken vulnerability. “You’re not just saying that?”
“I really think so,” Caliban said. “Why do you think I like you so much?”
“You like me?” you asked, seemingly caught off-guard.
“I wouldn’t have let you throw up on me if I didn’t.”
Caliban wasn’t sure what he expected you to do, but leaning in to kiss him wasn’t even on the top ten most likely options. It made his heart race, but he knew it wasn’t right. As much as he wanted to kiss you, he didn’t want to kiss you like this.
“Maybe we should do this another time,” Caliban said, turning to face the steering wheel before you could kiss him.
You frowned at him, sinking slowly into your seat. You looked at him but you were strangely quiet as you did. Then, with speed Caliban didn’t know you had in this state, you got out of the car and slammed the door shut.
Not quite the way Caliban saw this night ending.

How to (not) be an Adventurer by Althea Dawnwind Chapter 2 - Role models
All right, so I figure if he’s going to hear all this the first time around, anyway, I may as well keep recording.  Or...asking him to transcribe, I guess.  We talked about it.
While I take no offence to your choice of pronouns, I feel I should remind you I have no gender.
Gotcha.  Sorry.
No need to apologize.
Thanks.  Still sorry.  Wait, so is all this side commentary getting transcribed, too?
Yes.
Lovely.  Perfect.  All right, whatever.  Let’s go.
So there are a bunch of new people at the house.  Most of them are super cool, but one of them’s a total creeper.
Predictably, Julia’s hot into the creeper. (Ugh, her taste) But whatever.  Her romantic graveyard.  Let her dig it.  Besides, I’m sure Galen would never let this guy actually hurt Julia. (If he could actually hurt Julia).  It does make me wonder about why he lets this skeezeball travel with him, though.  I mean, I guess he’s not always the most perceptive, but-
Whatever.  I’m getting off topic.
Can journals be said to have an incorrect topic, properly?
Shush.  Anyway, they were all just here, suddenly, talking about the pact and my plague and my future. I wanted to scream, but I was just so tired and scared. I think I’d have accepted anything that gave me hope at that point.
Okay. No. Wait. Not anything. They were saying in some alternate past (?), they thought I was about to make a pact with some god of entropy? And honestly, that just sounds bad all around. Like sure, okay, I was pretty sure mine wasn’t one of those cases of spell plague you live through, you know? But some things are just worse than death.
Honestly, I was- am really offended that they thought so little of me. Okay not “they,” really. I barely even know most of them, but Galen…I really though at least he’d have some respect for my integrity. I thought maybe he could see me as more than just the little sister who needs protecting and can’t be trusted to make her own decisions I only even made this pact because everyone seemed so sure it was my best shot. And I- I mean, I wanted to live. Guilty, okay? Who doesn’t?
I felt the same, Althea
Yeah. So… yeah.
It is not wrong to wish or fight for life.
Thanks, Sha- uh, do you have like, a nickname I can use or anything?
Shadhavar is the only name I have ever known.
Wow, that’s…kind of sad. For the record, you can call me Thea. It’s what everyone in the family calls me.
I thank you, Thea.
Ha. Ummm. I was about to say I was smiling, you know, to transcribe it? The idea? Feeling? But, what is it, really? Can you even smile here?
There is no physical form or structure here to demarcate itself into what you call a smile.  The underlying ideas and feelings that cause the smile, however, can be recorded.
Oh. Cool. I mean, no really. Seriously. Cool.  Anyway, what was I saying?
Is this question rhetorical?
Um, yes? I mean it was, but you can- you know.
Those who found me presented you the possibility of a pact.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it, and I said yes.
Do you regret having done so?
Pfff, no. I’m not going to pretend I understand the full implications of having formed a soul bond with an ancient, sentient sword-bridge-focus thing born from both the feywild and the shadowfell? But it’s for serious better than the alternative. I can say that with total confidence right now.
Anyway, most of Galen’s new friends seemed like they really cared for me despite having just met me. It was weird, but also kind of nice? Oh! And Galen’s girlfriend. (!)  Apparently she left after everyone else but flew here the whole way to catch up!
Bad.
Ass.
And they all helped him defeat a death priest (or something) who was after me. I mean, okay. Julia helped. That…doesn’t count for nothing, I guess. I know mom and Nicon have trained her a lot and she’s freelanced a bit without telling mom. But now I have this whole group that seems like they’re sticking around for a bit? And maybe giving me some lessons?
This. Is going. To rule.
I also intend to provide you with instruction regardless of anyone else’s actions.
Really?!
Yes.
That’s…Ioun’s Wisdom, I don’t even know what to say! This is…am I going to cry? Fuck. No. I’m not going to start crying in here. Quick. Help me out.
Focus your mind on a task. You’ve mentioned these friends of your brother, but only just. Describe them.
Y-yeah. *sniff* Okay, yeah.
Breathe deeply and slowly.
Nono, I’m okay. It’s okay. Thanks. I’ve got this. Okay, strong feelings first. Let’s start with that creeper.
So, Creeper Creepzoidington is basically like a broody shadow who shoots everyone dirty looks, and I don’t say he’s a shadow because he’s drow.  Like, that’d be rude and also really inaccurate.  I say it cause this guy loves shadows.  Like, he loooves them - practically lives in them. They’re his home and they keep him safe and warm. Nicon says he’s already stolen from them, and I think the only time I’ve heard him talk was to swear. So yeah, whatever his deal is, I am not training with him.
Then there’s this other drow, Phaedra. I mean, I only point out they’re drow because they’re supposed to be really rare.  Surface elves are, too, but not as much? And I think I’ve only ever seen one of them. And now? Bam. 3 drow. More than I thought I’d ever met in my life, and everyone’s reaction has pretty much been, “Oh, hm! What a perfectly normal occurrence!”  It's just a little bit surprising.
Anyway, Phaedra, she’s about as different from Slimeus Slimeballius as you can get. She’s really elegant and nice. She came by later that night to see how I was doing. I didn’t feel much like talking, so…um…I didn’t, but she was really calm and polite about it. I could tell she knew I wasn’t really fine, but she didn’t press it. She just…did her best to be reassuring then left me alone. I kind of didn’t want her to go, but I appreciate that she did.
And how she moves! I mean, okay, so that probably sounds weird, but you should see her! She’s like floating silk or flowing water. She doesn’t even seem human, sometimes. Well, I mean, she’s not human, but you know what I mean.  She’s just ridiculously graceful, like she’s dancing in slow motion all the time, and my brain wants to learn the secret to it so much it can’t look away. So yeah, her I would totally train with.
Then there’s this younger drow, Tsabura.  (Tsubara?  Someone keeps messing up her name, and it’s really throwing me off.)  I thought she might’ve been be their kid or something, but even without speaking the language, I picked up that was not the case real quick.  She’s super cute but really quiet, and – I mean, I don’t know if the same standards culturally apply (nor am I sure whether or not it’s rude to consider that) - she has such nice skin.  She seriously just glows. Her skin is literally, physically lustrous.  But she’s just so angry.  Like, all the time.  Also?  Really sad.  I hope we can be friends.  I guess that’s a bit random, but it’d be great to have someone to relate to on a different level while on the road (more on that later), and maybe having a friend will help her not be so sad and angry.
It's weird, though. Like, no one’s saying anything about her, but she doesn’t seem like she’s been taking lessons from anyone, and she was pretty much dressed in rags? Mom tried to give her some of my old clothes, but that didn’t go so well. Maybe that’s why she’s in rags. Or maybe it’s a religious thing? Either way, I should probably stop calling them rags. When I tried talking to her, she barely even looked at me.  Honestly, I’m not sure I didn’t just imagine the brief glances she did give me, either.  I just...I want to know why she’s deliberately making herself so distant.  It’s like a mystery my brain needs to solve.
Moving on, there’s this really cheerful gnome named Tielka.  She’s...interesting.  She’s covered in armor and has a sword that drips frost but somehow seems super approachable?  Paradoxically, that makes me kind of nervous to approach her.  She also sounded really smart.  So I guess she’s...what?  A friendly warrior scholar?  I don’t know.  I mean, the image I’d always had of paladins is super stiff and serious, all thees and thous, but this?  It’s a weird vibe.  I mean, she looks like she’s 20, but she’s got this really motherly aura making me unsure if I want to befriend her or make sure she doesn’t catch me at mischief, so she’s got that, “inspiring the best behavior in others” thing down, I guess.
She’s also got a huge dog named Axle with the best leg.  I mean, omigosh, okay.  So his natural leg would’ve been the best leg, of course, but out of potential replacements?  This thing is, literally, divine.  Like, it’s full of clockwork, but it makes almost 0 noise, and it moves with him.  It doesn’t just sit there.  I really want to know how it works.  I mean, I’m guessing the answer will be something like 50% divinity, 40% magic and 10% mechanics, but still.
And then there’s Max.  I’m getting to her last, but she’s easily the biggest personality of the group.  (As befits a bard.)  She’s pretty much the polar opposite of Broody Broodfacerson.  She’s super friendly. She’s always smiling the brightest smile.  She has a siren’s voice and sings all the time.  She has a whole troop of animals who follow her around, all of whom I’m pretty sure she actually talks to.  (I think they’re all named Annie for some reason?)  And she’s so pretty.  Seriously, everything she does is extra charming.  There’s just something about how she moves, how she talks.  Just like, everything she does is so captivating.  There must be some lesson on mannerisms in bard college that teaches you how to keep people’s eyes on you cause there are like hooks on her gestures that grab the brain and don’t let go.  Basically, what I’m saying is she definitely made the right career choice.  Honestly, I wish she were a little quieter, but, well, no one can have everything, you know?
sighs
“You know.”  I have to stop that.
This is your fifth time using that phrase in this entry.
Fuuuck, really?!
Yes. Would you like me to alert you when you use it?
Nooo. I mean- auuugh, Vecna blind it! Yes. Yes, please do.
Very well.
Thanks.  Anyway, moving on...actually, I think that’s about it.
Oh!  And Galen.  But you know about Galen.  Well, I know about Galen, but will you, hypothetical/theoretical mystery future person, know about Galen?  I guess I should talk about Galen.  I mean, honestly, though, it feels like it’s enough to say he’s the best oldest brother anyone could want. Aforementioned rudeness aside, that is.  He’s just, I mean, he’s always giving me his time and teaching me the most interesting things, and he’s smart enough The Academy was too slow for him.  So he just, you know, decided to go adventuring and-
That’s six times.
What?
That you’ve used the phrase, “you know.”
Ugggghhhh.  All right, you know what?  My brain’s clearly tired.  He’s great, and I might end up going adventuring with him, which would be the best.  The end.
Sooo, how do I stop...
You can do so in the same manner as you did last time.
Yeah, I’m not really sure what I did last time.
You need simply to “feel” your intent to stop.
Okay, so kind of like-

You’re Taking Up a Fraction of My Mind pt.3
Jason was exhausted by the time Bruce decided he was done training. His muscles hurt and his brain felt frazzled; Bruce had given him a decent beat down. The older man made Jason aware of how distracted he’d been during training, the bruise forming on his lower bicep from a kick Jason should’ve seen coming and dodged but didn’t. The boy wonder played it off as him just being tired from the night before. Bruce was Bruce, he knew Jason was only telling half the truth but didn’t press the matter further.
“You’ve been improving, I want you to keep it up.” Bruce said, before adding. “But make sure you’re head’s straight for tonight. I don’t want you slipping again.”
Make sure your head’s straight for tonight.” Bruce told him strictly, “You’ve been improving, I want to see the good work keeping up.”
Bruce sent him off for a shower and dinner as the sun had already set and their night was soon beginning. Jason scratched his head as he made his way out of the library. Did Bruce just compliment him then insult him? His eyes trailed to his corner when he walked through the secret door and paused. He wanted to go back to this morning, when his body and ego didn’t hurt so much. This morning had been so simple, domestic even; it was the complete opposite of what Jason Todd was and he wasn’t complaining.
He didn’t mind sharing his secret stash and spot to Halley, which was something he wouldn’t do for anyone else. The way she had her head resting in the crook of his neck, laid up against him, he felt a tingly sensation shot through his body as he thought back to it.
As he walked through the halls to get to the main stairwell he heard voices coming from the main entry way, pulling a face when the voice was clear as day. What the hell was Grayson doing here?
“I do wish you would’ve called Master Dick, I would’ve made up your room for you.” Alfred’s chastising voice was heard before Jason completely saw them.
“Sorry Al, I should’ve of called.” Dick laughed, guiltily rubbing the back of his neck. “It was kind of a last minute thing, you know? I almost couldn’t get the flight I wanted, I had to name drop Bruce to pull some strings.” He laughed again.
Jason scoffed at his predecessor. Whenever Jason gave Alfred a nickname, he was scolded but Dick had just gave him one and he didn’t say anything. Jason looked at them, debating on going back to hide in his corner of the library for a while until he could get to his room unnoticed. They blocked the path to the stairs and he wasn’t in the mood for Grayson now.
“Well you’re here now.” Alfred said. “Go bring your bags up to your room, dinner will be ready shortly. I’m afraid it’s nothing special, I’ve been otherwise occupied.”
Dick had a look of knowing, remembering the message Alfred had left him a few days again. The annual Wayne Enterprises Charity Gala was coming up and the butler was not letting Dick get out of it this year. He was able to get out of it last year, being away on Titan duty. It wasn’t that he totally hated galas, he just preferred to not have to go. The stuffy suit, having to socialize with the snooty elites of Gotham, all he could say was at least the food was always worth it.
Dick was about to talk but his attention was brought elsewhere, hearing the floor creak. He looked up into the adjacent hall, seeing Jason standing there, almost like a dear caught in headlights. He appeared to be trying to back away, causing Dick to look at him with a cocked eyebrow.
“Jason,” he greeted almost sternly, the name leaving his lips more harshly than intended.
It was Jason’s turn to cock an eyebrow. What did he do now? Why was he being glared down by Dick fuckin’ Grayson?  He fixed a smirk on his face, now looking like his normal ‘cool’ self, he greeted him right back, almost sneering as he spoke, “Dick,”
Dick narrowed his eyes even more, knowing the joke all too well; with a name like his, the joke had long gone stale but the fact that a kid was disrespectful enough to make it, almost set him off. Alfred cleared his throat, breaking the coming fight off before it could start.
“Master Todd,” Alfred only used last names when he disapproved. “Why don’t you go collect Miss Halley and let her know dinner is almost done. She should still be in her room.” Alfred didn’t as much as sound like he was asking, more of telling.
“I got it Al,” Dick said quickly after the butler finished. He took in Jason’s sweaty appearance, and noted how he come from the direction of the entrance to the Batcave. It was also a Saturday afternoon and he knew Bruce hadn’t changed since he left. Almost cockily he nodded at the younger boy, “Rough session with Bruce?”
“No,” Jason spat, crossing his arms against his chest. He was sick of everyone treating him like this; he didn’t even do anything this time. “Quite the opposite actually,” it was a lie, but who the hell did Dick think he was?
He began his decent up the stairs, his ears perking when he heard Alfred scold Dick, calling him by his last name and saying how that was uncalled for. Jason smirked, knowing that at the end of the day Alfred did care and have his back. He made his way to his room, hearing Dick following a few steps behind him. He reached his door, almost tempted to knock on Halley’s before Dick could but didn’t want to test the older boy, at least in front of Halley.
Dick waited until Jason was inside his room before knocking on the girl’s door. He waited when he heard her calling out that she was coming. He eyed the doorknob when he heard a click, wondering why she had her door locked. When the door opened he smiled at her, wanting to shout out surprise but decided against doing that.
She looked up at him a smile on her own face, almost looking eager, but when she realized it was him her face morphed into a different one. She looked taken aback, and almost disappointed? Dick dropped his smile, himself disappointed as she stared up at him for a few seconds silently. He let out a lame hey, his heart beating a million times a minute as she just nodded at him.
“Hey,” She said back, scanning his face and wondering why he was here. She shook her head, realizing she was being rude. She brought back her smile, only Dick noting that it wasn’t has big as it was when she first opened the door. She fully swung the door open, “Sorry, I just thought you’d be Jason. What are you doing here?”
Dick followed her into the room, frowning as she spoke. She was expecting Jason, Kori’s words now ringing in the back of his head. He cleared his throat, leaving his bags in the hallway and walked into the room. “I was concerned. You didn’t answer my messages. I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
Realization struck her face, looking to her nightstand and the phone that had still been left untouched from this morning. She didn’t think before speaking, finding herself doing that a lot more lately than she cared to admit, “I’m sorry, I forgot to respond when I came back into my room later. I saw it this morning when I woke up and was going to but Jason took my phone before I could-, I’m sorry.”
“You were with Jason this morning?”  Dick eyed her, his eye almost twitching. A pang reached his chest as he looked out into the hall from the open door. He saw Jason’s closed door and swore he felt a blood vessel pop before turning back to Halley.
“Um, yeah.” She said quietly, now noticing what she did. Fuck, she cursed, wanting to slap herself in the face and push Dick out of her room. When did she become such a girl, she questioned herself. She’s a well-trained assassin; she’s killed people and she’s done terrible things but here she was fumbling over her own worlds and blushing for the hundredth time in days over the stupidest things.
“I was upset last night, he was making sure I was okay,” She said faltering, trying to make it sound anyway but the way she knew Dick would and was assuming.
She knew how his mind worked, remembering back when they’d been on a mission together with the Titans and he’d gotten strangely protective and overbearing when they teamed up with Aquaman’s sidekick, Aqualad. Garth had been a flirt but it went right over the girl’s head, never having interacting with someone that way until Dick started pointing it out and sending eye daggers to the Atlantean.
Dick frowned, letting his eyes trail around her room, not being here in a while; it’d been too long now that he thought about it. He hadn’t been a really good ‘whatever he was to her’ recently, having left after a week or two after she originally returned.  He’d come to visit a couple of times afterwards but never stood for long. He’d just left her here and passed on his responsibility of her to Bruce. It was just too hard for him to stay at the manor for that long. He worked so hard to escape Bruce’s shadow and being back was a constant remember as to why he left. But maybe it was time to move back to Gotham, he pondered.
“How are you?” He asked, noting the pile of clothes at the foot of her bed, which was still left unmade. The room wasn’t a total wreck but he couldn’t help but noticed how it wasn’t up to Alfred’s standards. He chuckled, knowing that he probably hasn’t seen the room in this state yet, because injury or not, Alfred would not let this fly. He moved to start making her bed, not wanting her to overdo it.
“You don’t have to do that,” she hurried over to swat his hands away, moving to start pulling the sheets up herself. He swatted her away, giving her a cheeky smile and telling her to start working on putting her clothes away. She didn’t fight him and moved away from the bed.
“You didn’t answer my question,” He said, looking up from his work.
“I’m fine.” She shrugged, reaching down to grab the t-shirts to start folding them.
He could tell she wasn’t being honest as she bit the inside of her cheek. He knew it was a nervous habit of hers and constantly reprimanded her to stop doing it. Do you really want to get sores in your mouth, he’d scold her. He also knew she wasn’t being honest with him because she refused to fully look him in the eyes. He let out a large sigh, fluffy out her pillows after finishing pulling up the sheets and comforter up.
“Gotham’s tough,” He started, laying the pillows up against the headboard. “It’s not like back in Jump City where we run around chasing boozo’s like Doctor Light or Mad Mod. Sure, we get the occasional guy like Brother Blood, but it’s not like anything here. I shouldn’t have just thrown you out here alone.” Dick frowned, his tone apologetic and laced with guilt.
Halley unclenched her jaw, busying herself with putting the folded shirts into her dresser. She shrugged her shoulders, brushing him off. She didn’t want to keep dwelling on last night. Whenever she dwelled on things she’d find herself spiraling soon after until she couldn’t deal with it and run. And it wasn’t like last time where she could go back to the tower and leave the manor. Granted, she technically could, the Titan’s made it pretty clear she’d always be welcomed but this time around she found herself not wanting leave the manor.
“It’s okay to be upset, Halley,” Dick pressed, determined to get his point across not understanding that he was only making her clamp up even more.
“I just don’t want to talk to you about it.” She said, her short temper simmering slowly. She bit her lip as she saw her words had genially upset Dick. The man she knew to never shut up was rendered speechless and she couldn’t help but feel bad. She tried retracting her statement and apologize but he raised his hand at her to stop.
“It’s okay,” He said softly. He crossed his arms across his broad chest. It was his turn to bit his lip before speaking, his voice calm but sounding regretful. “We used to be really close. You used to tell me everything and now you’re not.” He began now taking a seat on the edge of the bed with a heavy sigh.
“You call Kori instead of me. You’re going to parties now, going out with friends and-,” he wanted to bring up Jason but stopped himself. “I just don’t know anything about what’s going on in your life anymore.” He paused, knowing he wanted to bring up one of their parting conversations when she returned to Gotham, him blaming it partially on why she’d been so distant from him recently. “Ever since I told you about your brother and what happen with Slade, things have been different between us.”
Halley winced after he brought it up, having tried pushing the conversation far into the back of her mind. After her father brought up having a family that he kept from her, he’d also mentioned how Dick and the Titan’s knew as well and never told her. She’d been hurt that she’d been lied to by not only her father but Dick. She wasn’t surprised her father lied, but Dick, she understood why he did but Dick was supposed to never lie to her, she’d put all her trust in him. She had forgiven him though, after he finally sat her down in her room in Titans Tower and told her everything.
She vaguely remembers the time when her father left her in the care of his associate, Wintergreen,    as he went off to do a job without her. It was around the time when he first started taking her on jobs, but this one he deemed her to underqualified for, her later figuring out why. Deathstroke had been hired to kill Donna Troy, who had been Wonder Girl, until her father did the job.
Dick told her that it was still one of his biggest regrets and if he could he would take it back. He’d yet found out about he but he told her that he figured out Deathstroke had another kid, had a family. It made sense now that she thought back. He’d leave her with Wintergreen every now and then, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for weeks and now she knew why; he’d go back and play house with his wife and son while she’d been forced to train and have her childhood taken away from her.
Dick had inserted himself in her older brother Jericho’s life, formed a friendship with him. It was all fake of course, Dick was just using him to get information on Deathstroke. The friendship was one-sided at first, Dick said but then said he started to actually grow fond of the boy and began to back off, realizing just how wrong what he was doing was. But he said Jericho was persistent, not okay with Dick cutting him off suddenly. Dick said he was going to come clean and explain everything to her brother but her father had caught onto what Dick was doing and followed them as they met one day. Too no surprise, her father tried killing Dick but Jericho, who had no idea about his father’s life, stepped in the way; the bullet intended for Dick met Jericho and that’s how her father’s hatred for Dick Grayson and the Titan’s began.
That hadn’t been the reason why Halley hadn’t been talking to Dick as much as before. It did make her look at him a different way though. She still saw him for who he was but she also saw him as someone who’d made mistakes. She had always saw him as this perfect and happy person, incapably of anything terrible. She looked up to him and as cheesy and pathetic as it sounded, she looked up to him like a hero.
“It’s not because of that,” she tried to ensure him, moving to sit next to him. “I forgave you for that. That wasn’t all your fault. My father was just as to blame as you, even more so. He should’ve known to not do anything with his son there.” She placed a comforting hand on his arm, knowing how it still ate him up inside.
She let out a sigh that could’ve been misconstrued as one of annoyance. She wasn’t annoyed at him, she was just sick of there always being some big dramatic conversation waiting to be happened every other day at this rate. Everything was so complicated all the time.
“I-I just don’t know how to talk to you about certain stuff, I guess.” She settled.
It wasn’t a lie. She really didn’t want to go talking to Dick Grayson about her current issues, if that’s what she even wanted to call them. He’d be the last person she’d think to call for help putting an outfit together for a party or for advice on why Jason had been acting so stupid. She just didn’t see those conversations ending well. And the whole Zsasz thing, well, she just wanted to move on from it and if she had to keep talking about it she never would; Jason had already helped her move past it for the most part and then Dick had to show up and bring it back up.
“Well I just want you to know that I’m here to listen.” Dick nodded, knowing that it’d be best to drop everything. For now, anyways. He patted his hands on his knees, standing up, trying to instantly go back to his normal chipper self. “Dinner?”
“I’m not that hungry but it’s not like Alfred will let me skip out,” she chuckled, standing up herself as the pair began to head downstairs.
Dick eyed Jason as he excited his room right as they had, as if he’d been ease-dropping and knew they were leaving, Dick noted with a eyebrow raised. Halley greeted Jason with a smile, asking him how training was. Dick listened to their conversation as they walked, staying a pace behind them. He totally caught that look Jason shot her as she laughed about something he said. Oh, he was definitely thinking it was time to move back to Gotham.

Ashido Mina x Female Reader
The clock seems to take forever as your shift comes to a close. Soon, just soon you can go home and have the next day off. You desperately needed it. This week and the hours here have been so long. If only some entity would have mercy on you for things to by faster.
Unfortunately, you were tasked with dealing with the last three customers before closing time. Your manager of course already dealing with the cash registers, not in use, and fixing up the store. Your eyes remained glue to the three adults that seem your age. They looked awfully familiar too.
“Dude! Look, look! I fucking told you she would grow! She has her own section here,” The black-haired male states.
The redhead looks to be entranced and the dorky blond with them starts to take photos immediately. You gave them a few minutes but now… It appears they have no sense of the time. Or they don’t care about making the employee suffer.
“Kaminari, you’re smallest of us, you should try on the clothes for her. Don’t you think so Sero?” The redhead asks with a stunning smile.
Sero just snickers and Kaminari seems to actually consider the idea. Not wanting them to risk endangering the clothing you are quick to sneak up behind them and speak.
“Is there something you are looking for in particular?” You force a smile that shows the exhaustion you are feeling.
However, they seem dense to your state as all three of them share a look and somehow come up with an idea. It’s written all over their faces and somehow you fear they are all sharing one singular brain cell between them.
“What the hell is taking you guys so long?” A new voice questions behind you.
It nearly made you wet yourself from how aggressive the voice is and how it came from out of nowhere. However, when you turn around to see the person you smile from seeing the familiar face. “Kaachan!”
You ignore the wince Bakugou makes from the nickname and throw your arms around him. To your surprise, he doesn’t push you away at all. Instead, he returns the hug but with complete rigidness.
“What? You know the pretty lady?” Kaminari asks.
You ignore the flirty tone he uses as Bakugou nods his head. He really has changed a lot from the last time you saw him in your primary school years. He’s not as… aggressive. It’s still there but he appears more gentle.
“Yeah. She’s my childhood friend. (Nickname), these are the stupid extras I’ve hung out with during high school,” Bakugou says looking away.
You can see he truly cares for them. You also realize that is why they all look familiar. You recognize them from Bakugou’s social media posts and tags he was included in.
The redhead smiles even brighter (somehow that seems so impossible from how smiley he already is). He shares his idea that the other two boys had with him earlier. “Well, I am Kirishima. That is Kaminari and Sero. Right when you asked us if we were looking for anything particular we had an idea! We were wondering if you would be willing to try on some of these clothes for us. You see our friend loves this brand and wasn’t able to come shopping with us-“
Bakugou is already trying to disuse the idea planted within their heads. The whole thing is rather endearing. It’s been a while since you last saw a group of adult friends like this. It definitely reminds of your high school days.
“Don’t say anymore. I would love to model for you guys. It will have to real quick though we are closing soon,” You state.
The three boys cheer with victory as Bakugou just huffs. The three choose a few pairs of clothing to mix and match before sending you off to the dressing room. Bakugou thankfully keeping your manager busy and away with his glare. Like the manager even cares.
In the dressing room, you observe the clothing brand they want you to try. The brand name is Ashido but the name is in a heart. It was cute. The clothing itself is to die for if you were being honest. It wasn’t exactly cheap but not too expensive either. From the clothing, they gave you it looks as if the designer was trying to aim for a cool “hip” chic design. Almost tomboyish but could be matched with other clothing to find a perfect match for someone’s personal taste.
It honestly makes your chest start to bloom with excitement.
Your personal dream of becoming a model trying to rise with each passing moment of putting on the clothes. You manage to ignore it until you come out of the dressing room and all four boys’ mouths drop open.
It takes a few seconds before one of them manages to snap the photo. “Holy fuck, you look gorgeous!” Kaminari states.
“Here try a few more poses than one more outfit, please! We owe you one for this!” Kirishima says trying to get the heat he’s feeling on his cheeks to go away.
You shrug but do as asked and honestly you live for it. They start hyping you up and you end up trying on two more outfits. Time passed by the blink of an eye and your heart wanted to burst from how much fun you were having with this small group.
Eventually, though, all good things have to come to an end. Bakugou breaks things up from becoming too restless which is good since your manager was now giving you the even eye. You looked at the time and saw it was half an hour past closing. Oops.
You are quick to change to your clothing and kick them out with a goodbye, clocking out, and apologizing to your irritated manager. Thankfully you get off with just a warning since you both have a good relationship with each other which is all just bonding over the sadness of working at this stressful job.
By the time you reach your car you get a message from a number, you don’t know and a smile spreads on your face as you see it’s signed from Bakugou.
Bakugou: *Sent Image* You don’t look half bad. Sorry, those damn extras took their time.
That was it but it made you happy to see that Bakugou has grown from such an intolerable little brat to a little bit hostile but tolerable man. And his friends? You already adore them but too bad it was only for a moment.
The new thought makes your heart have that sinking feeling and gives you a small feeling of dread. You quickly try to reverse the thought. Tomorrow you get your day off!
“Then it is back to the normal schedule,” You mutter.
Wow… There goes for trying to be positive. You rest your head for a moment on the steering wheel before gathering yourself together.
~*~
“Whoa! Who is she?! She’s so pretty! Look at her! Look at my clothing! They fit her so well she could be a model!” Mina states while holding onto her phone with an inhuman grip.
The pictures Kirishima sent were spectacular.
Kirishima laughs and points to their blond friend. “You got lucky then. Kaminari was the one ready to model your clothing. You’re getting pretty big with your name out there, keep it up, bro!” He says happily.
“Yeah, I would’ve been a great model too! You two joining us. It’s been a while since we all played a game,” Kaminari says changing the subject as he pulls out a few remotes to his console.
The two ignore him and Sero is the one to take a remote while speaking up. “That girl though? She was so cute and nice! You would’ve liked her Mina.”
Mina nods with excitement as she observes your features in the picture. “Oh my god. I just had a great idea! She should actually model for my designs!”
“Really? Are they hiring?” Kirishima asks.
Mina can feel the excitement grow as she latches onto the idea. She replies to his question, “Well sort of! I need to get my designing team in on it but once they agree they’ll hire her. We need her to create a portfolio though…”
“Why not go and ask her?” Kaminari asks.
The suggestion makes Mina feel rather light and fuzzy and the desire to recruit this astonishing female is too strong. Of course, her three close friends had to crush her hope immediately. “I don’t know man, isn’t that weird? Shouldn’t you get to know her first? See what type of worker she is?” Kirishima questions.
“I don’t know. If Bakugou was that nice to her I think that is equivalent to being an amazing worker.”
Mina decides to ignore them now. With one final look at the photo, a feeling of giddiness enters her. It’s final. She decided that this beautiful girl is going to be her model! Of course, that means she has to have her roommates take her to the store. So that is exactly what they do the next day.
The group minus Bakugou went straight there to look for her only to see that she wasn’t there. They did ask if she was working today from the employees saying they aren’t allowed to disclose any information.
“Well, what about the manager working last night? I would like to report him for…” Kaminari starts only to not come up with anything.
It was truly a good try but nothing came from it. They are on the verge of giving up when (Name) herself comes out of the employees’ area with a small box in her arms and her eyes slightly red and puffy from obvious crying.
~*~
You hate getting all emotional but truly you have a good reason. You just wish you could hold it in longer. The slight sniffling is the dead giveaway that you are coming close to crying. The feeling worsens only slightly upon seeing the familiar faces from last night with a brand new face.
However, you don’t interact with them all and even ignore their concerned looks.
You can’t talk when you are on the verge of tears so you rush past them and ignore their calls. Without any second thoughts, you hop into the car of your friend’s and start bawling your eyes out as he starts to take you home.
Thankfully, he doesn’t say a word until he reaches your place. Though you can feel his dread and worry for you that is practically leaking from him.
“Do you want me to come in and make you a warm beverage?”
You shake your head and hold the box tightly. “No thank you. You driving me home was enough for me. Thank you so much Izuku. You’re my best friend and you’re always there for me. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.” You are quick to give him a brief hug so you don’t worry him any further.
Then you leave his car and disappear into your apartment where you feel the dread of what happened sinking in. Not knowing what else to do you go into defense mode and curl up into a blanket on the couch.
You are unsure how much time passes by but when you do come to it is because someone is knocking on your door. The knocks are gentle before turning harsh. There are multiple voices and that confuses you until you open the door.
Bakugou stands in the doorway and he is quick to say, “Sorry these damn extras wanted to come over and stupid Deku told me the address.”
The other three boys give you the puppy eyes, begging to know what happened. The girl with them stares at you with curiosity and concern. You invite them all in deciding the company is worth it rather than the dread you would feel by yourself.
“I got fired. So did my manager.”
All of them fall silent as they suddenly piece together what happened. “It’s our fault,” Kirishima murmurs.
You shake your head. “No. It was my fault. To be honest, the management team was looking for any excuse to get rid of a few employees. Not my loss but the panic of not having a job is slowly setting in. I’ll be fine but it is a bit scary.”
They stay silent not knowing what to say. That is until Bakugou stands up. “C’mon, let’s leave them to talk.”
The three perk up making you confused and a bit worried until the girl smiles at you. Her pink locks bring out the brightness of her smile and ease your discomfort. As soon as you hear the door close the girl takes a seat close to you and puts out her hand.
“Ashido Mina! Apologies for the late introduction but I wish to be your friend! That and I went to the store earlier because I saw the pictures of you trying on the clothing I made and I want to offer you a job as a model!” Mina states.
You need a moment to process this. It is obvious as you just stare at her with an expression of a fish. She laughs lightly at this but waits for a reply with the patience of an angel.
“Well nice to meet you Ashido. You probably know already but my name is (Last Name) (First Name). I didn’t realize that you were the designer of the clothes. That’s pretty cool but… You want me to be model them?” Your voice shows an obvious lack of confidence.
That is no problem to Mina. You are a beauty and she is going to make it her goal to prove it to you. She nods her head eagerly. “Yes! My breath was literally taken away for a moment when I saw the photos. I… Think you should be the face of my brand! My team is already on board so you are practically hired! I wouldn’t be your boss either but a co-worker so we can still have fun! We would just need to create a portfolio of you modeling the clothing and other clothes to send to my boss but besides that, you are in only if you want!”
It… Is a lot of information but your heart starts to pound. It’s the same feeling you got last night when the boys hyped you up. Clarity seems to wipe over you for a moment and it feels like the turn of events were meant to happen just for this moment.
You agree.
Mina jumps up and down before pulling you into a very much needed hug on your part. She is then quick to pull away after realizing what she has down. Her own heart feels like she’s drinking a bunch of energy drinks from how fast it is beating.
“I, oh wow. I don’t want to push my luck but I feel like I have to. I want to get to know you of course as friends would but to celebrate you being hired when you do, I was wondering if you would like to celebrate with a date? Oh my god, sorry that must be weird and too straightforward-“
You shut her up by laughing. It made her wince before she realizes your laughter isn’t one of malice. It is one of joy.
“I don’t think it is weird at all. I do want to take it slow of course but I think I already like you from what I’ve seen. We’ll see where it goes… But… Ashido, thank you for taking an interest in me. It means a lot.”
You two have a moment, sharing a smile with each other before sadly it is ruined by the door awkwardly opening and three out of four boys peek in who have eavesdropped on what was said. Mina’s face turns a deep red before you just burst out laughing again.
You are honestly so glad those three came into your work last night.

Vampire x Vampire Hunter
Entrapta hoped the door bell wouldn't have been drowned out by the loud roaring of thunder in the completely blackened skies. She tried the door knocker the next time. Maybe it faired better that the bell or maybe the bell was heard, but the response to the door was delayed. In any case the short woman heard the components of the rusty lock turn and twist with clicks and clanks. The huge wooden door, with the stature of a tree, slowly swang open.
In the door way was a woman, tall, thin. Her skin grey and tarnished by the elements. Her hair black and untaimed, Entrapta could relate. The woman's lower face was covered by a cloth, her eyes white like marble. She quirked her brow at the abnormally small woman and asked, "Well?"
The shorter lady responded with a bounch in her step, "Oh! Hey, I'm Entrapta. Entrapta Vesselak," the other woman stares with a blank expression on her face waiting for anything significant, "I-eh, I'm the world famous vampire hunter: En-trap-ta... rings a bell?"
That got the servent woman to change her expression, it worpped to an expression of surprise and confusion. Her eyes narrowed and her head leaned forward. "What?"
Entrapta wasn't sure if the woman didn't understand so she continued, "I was invited here. For a dinner feast to discuss funding for further projects." Entrapta began gesturing with her hands hopeing it would set some alarms off in the womans head. She hoped she didn't take a wrong turn and entered up at the wrong haunted looking castle.
"Invited by wh-"
"Shadow Weaver."
The woman, Shadow Weaver, was cut off by a deeper, smoother voice. It imerged from the shadows, accompanied with the sound of heels clacking against the floor. Weaver's head snapped back, her posture folding up in fear.
"Why is the quest in the cold?" A figure stood half cloacked in shadows, maybe Entrapta was going crazy, but she could swear his eyes were glowing. Weaver stumbled and mummbled, the tall man dismissed her with a single gesture.
Entrapta happily hopped in, "You must be, Lord Hordak. Neat castle."
"And you must be the infamious Dr. Entrapta Vesselak... you're smaller than I expected." A smirk playing across his face. Entrapta didn't know what it was, but she liked it.
The two walked and talked for what felt like hours, Hordak showing the hunter around the castle, which he dubbed The Fright Zone. How it ran. And all the occupents taking residence in it. Entrapta found out that the Lord didn't live in the castle alone. With their was his adopted daughter Catra and her wife Baroness Scorpia. His servent Shadow Weaver who was the care taker of the children. And his son, Imperium. Strangely enough, Hordak always talked about Imp, as he nicknamed him, as if he was with them at all times, but Entrapta didn't see a living soul except a lone bat fluttering over the chandellier. Following them.
They finally made their way into the dinning hall, which was a blessing, because Entrapta was starving. The table was massive in length, the two opposite seats seemed like they were carved out of gold. Much to his surprise Entrapta chose the regular seat next to his.
That shocked him more was to learn that the young woman was a scientist, focusing on study, observation and research, but she didn't mind getting her gloves dirty if need be. The dinner was grand and feast rich with variety of flavour like no other. But Entrapta barely touched her plate, her mouth was too occupied with riddling the lord with questions. She was intrigued. Nothing stopped Entrapta when she was intrigued.
Hordak himself had to admite he was inthralled with the woman. A first glance she seemed nothing more than childish, but the more she opened up the more she revealed herself as an intellectual and quite the amoral type. She had a dark sense of humour, he noted. She passively joked about how she ran out of subjects from her home town of Dryl so she resorted to running after squirels.
She, in fact, was quite the joker, dry humour that clearly was made to make herself laugh. Very much what a person would consider dad humour.
Hordak was guilty himself of chuckling at some of the aweful punchlines. Against his better judgement he smiled, revealing his sharp canines. His nose scrunched up and a snort came out of his giggle.
That seemed to have caught the woman's attention, because a brief moment of silence ingulfed them. Hordak swore her eyes darted to his lips at least twice before she restablished direct eye contact with him. This time the look was different. Not just intrigue now, something else, something that made Hordak gag on clean air.
The dinner was cut short the moment Entrapta manifested a mischiefious grin, this time Hordak saw her teeth. He ubruptly stood up in a hurry, wished her good rest and waltzed upstairs to, presumably, his bedroom.
She was quite confused by the action, but followed suite and found her way towards her own guest room. She set her things up in her room in record time. All her traps and hunting apparatus was laided out around the floor in rows in alphabetical order.
Entrapta stared up at the ceiling from her queen sized bed and it's strong wooden arcs. She smiled and sounded a victorious 'yes' to herself. She was bad at using or understanding social ques, but from what she could gather, the dinner went well. She had the funding garanteed. A squeal of excitement escaped her, some proper money for research and materials would be a nice change from scavenging scarps around Dryl for weapons. After the Church of BrightMoon pulled their support, the whole hunting vampires business went slightly stail. But now with THE Lord Hordak and his wealth, the research could continue. So much studing to be done.
She had a good feeling. This time maybe she could actually capture one instead of burning them like usual. Vampires, such facinating creatures. So much to learn. It is unfortunet that some fear knowledge, like BrightMoon, they just wanted the creatures gone. Entrapta would've done anything to get to cut one open and take a peek inside.
A strange feeling crept up on her. Like someone was watching. She turned her head to the giant open window, white curtains bellowing inward. The window framed a perfect picture of the moon, not a single cloud in the sky. No stars either strangely enough. A thin, croocked, withered tree stood infront of the moon. It's trunk swaying from side to side as if about to snap in half anytime. It's branchs like claws reaching for the moon as if to grasp it.
On one of the blackened branches, Entrapta noted, was the same bat that was following her and Lord Hordak in the halls earlier. It starred at the woman with judgemental annoyance. As if examining her for something, in puzzlement.
Suddenly, there was a knock on her door. She hesitently dragged her eyes away from the curious bat and stepped to the wooden door. Entrapta swung the doors open, her head skimmed the hallway, left to right. No one was on the outside of the door. She scratched her scalp.
She heart almost jumped out her throat when she turned around to see two new faces in her room. How did they get in? From the descriptions give to her by Lord Hordak earlier, she could presume these were Catra and Scorpia.
The skinner girl, the one with heterocromic eyes, Catra, reminder her a lot of Hordak. The slightly pointed ears, the sharp nails, the teeth, very similar. Curious. The lord specified the girl was not of blood, yet she seemed like a perfect mirror image of him.
The other was much taller, more muscular, platinum hair and firm hands. The taller woman was humbly sitting on a stool, her knees inward, her left hand giving a slight wave. The shorter one was looking away, out the window, at the bat. She asked without turning to the visitor.
"So... you're the new chew toy the boss has been so wind up about?" Her heterocromic eyes sized her up with a judgemental expression. "She don't seem like much."
"Hey!" Entrapta pouted.
"I think she's nice. So does Lord Hordak. It might be a nice change. Lord Hordak is rarely nice and often so grumpy."
"I'm in the room you know... so... hi. I'm Entrapta, you probably know that already." The scientist scratched her head at the awkward introduction. She wasn't good at social interactions. Not good with people. She was always more of an outcast, a weirdo. An outsider looking in. She observed people, analysed how they interacted, how they acted in particular situations. Then, she copied them. Put a mask on. Surprisingly enough, she hadn't found a need to put one up today, infront of Lord Hordak. He didn't seem repulsed by her morbid sense of curiousity and sense of humour. He actually seemed to gravitate towards her because of her quirks.
She enjoyed that. Having someone locked into her own pull. She enjoyed being in the presence of another intellictual and being able to converse with one. Their session of bouncing ideas off of each other was refreshing, no one ever took interest in her line of work. Not a surprise. Not many people want to be vampire hunters. It was tidious work.
"You must be Catra and Scorpia, right? Cool beans."
The scientist extended her hand to the slightly hairy woman, she looked like she just woke up to a bad hair day. Entrapta could painfully relate. The cat-like figure starred at the forwarded hand and back at Entrapta. And back and forth a couple of times.
"I don't see it. 'Dak must be getting desparate."
"Yeah, what's that supposed to mean?!" Entrapta replied with a slightly angered face now.
Catra scoffed, slowly making her way to the scientist, circling around her. Her heterochromic eyes wondered up and down seemingly unimpressed by the woman. Entrapta didn't pay much attention her her and tried to ease back into the conversation.
"Soooo. You guys live here right? How long? How long have you been married? Did you guys see that little bat followin' me around? Do you know if the castle walls are made from hellstone or brickdwell? Are there any secret doors or passageways? 'Cause I definetly spotted a couple on my way here. Do you think Lord Hordak is more of a milk chocolate guy or dark chocolate? ...Too many questions?"
"Yeah, kind of." Scorpia jestured a tipping shake with her hand. "But definetly milk chocolate." The taller woman stood up and slowly made her way to the scientist and extended her hand to her with a proper greeting. "So yes, I'm Baroness Scorpia and my wild cat over here tring to pull off an intimidating Hordak impressions is my lovely Lady Catra."
At that remark, a slight blush crept on Catra's face. She attempted to hide the rising red by looking away. Entrapta smiled at that.
Scorpia questioned the hunter one more time, "Umm, Professor Entrapta. If we may ask you a question... why are you here? Your arrival here, was not announced to us. What does Lord Hordak wish to gain from you?"
"A one night stand."
"Catra."
"What?! You know he's a freak! And a vampire hunter, dude's a weirdo."
"That's not true. And you know it. Lord Hordak will faint faster keeping direct I contact with a woman than standing in the sun."
"Again. Still in the room you guys... also what was that thing about the sun?"
The two of them looked back at her, Scorpia with an expression of guilt and worry and Catra of confusion and annoyance. "She doesn't- he didn't- *sighs*. Of course he didn't."
Once again there was an unannounced knock on the door. All of the three heads shot to the dark wood. Everything in the room became colder and quieter. Catra gave off a 'pfft' and waved her hand dismissably, while Scorpia posed up right more honorably and seriously. Entrapta decided she would be the one to open the door, since the other two just stood back silently. After the turn of the nob, the other side of the wood revealed Lord Hordak himself.
The lord opened his mouth to say something, a sensire expression on his face, however he stopped. His brow quirked up, he looked back at the room behind Entrapta. She herself turned around to bring the other two into the conversation, but to Entrapta's surprise no one was there. The bedroom was empty. However the frown on the man's face suggested he was aware of the self-invited guests.
Lord Hordak looked back down to the woman, shifting gears, he opened his mouth again. There were those canines again. Real sharp... really... really sharp. Almost... abnormally. "I must apologise doctor."
"For what?" Entrapta tilted her head to the side.
"Well, rather someone else is to apologise for there actions," just then Entrapta noticed a smaller figure step around from behind the lord's black cape. A young boy stepped out, hands figiting together at his tummy, eyes looking down at his feet. A look of embarasement was on his face. "This is Imp and the boy had the audacity to spy on you, and I also see other unwelcomed guests have violated your priva-"
"HE'S SO CUTE!"
Entrapta immiediately knelt down to the boy and flashed a wide grin, she extended to pat the young child on head and ruffle through his white turf of hair. Which prompted the child to show a rosey blush across the cheeks. The little kid's enjoyment was interupted by a forced koff from the lord. Imp immiediately straightened himself out and signed with his two hands 'I'm sorry.'
"Sorry? I did-"
"It means 'I'm sorry'."
"Oh, that's alright." Entrapta waved it off with a hand gesture, she turned back to Hordak. Their eyes locked, the hunter finding the red glow of them quite aluring. "I thought you said you were going to sleep mister." Her lips curved upward. Hordak's eyes grew twice the size with nervousness, he could feel himself start to sweat.
"I- eh- couldn't sleep... I wished to speak with you about uhmmm any possible future projects."
"Uh huh."
"Perhaps projects to involve us both."
"You specialise in traps my lord?" Entrapta asked curiously.
"I tinker. Idle hands are the devil's workshop."
"So you're a man of God?"
"I'm half the man I used to be. But what is left of me is of science... shall we talk later? I must escort the young fella to his quarters." Hordak felt the little boy clench closer to his leg. The man picked the child up in his arms and pulled him closer to his chest.
"It's a date."
Hordak did his best to ignore the remark and turned around to leave with the boy. He turned back briefly, "Oh and if anyone else bothers you during the night. Let me know." He continued off.
"Okky dokki! Sweet dreams!" Entrapta waved them off.
Imp signed with his hands to Hordak as they decended the staircase, 'I like her.'
"Me too. But let's not get too cozy. She IS the enemy and it's good to keep your enemies close."

if you ever want to be in love - n.p.
Tumblr media
in which a girl who vowed to never fall for her best friend did exactly that
song used for inspiration: “if you ever want to be in love” by james bay
warnings: mentions of alcohol. a bit of cursing towards the end. a bit angsty?
word count: 4,093
a/n: this is my first time ever writing something so please help me out lol i’m sorry it’s so long
She found home in another set of arms, stretched and surrounding her in familiarity and comfort she had yet to find in the foreign city. Cold fingers danced along her spine, somehow managing to leave her skin scorching, and she wondered if he could also hear how loud and fast her heart was pulsing his name.
The touches were innocent, alongside the gazes she shared with eyes that mirrored the color of the lake where the two spent past summers together. She never dared to sneak glances at the lips that mocked and called her by her childhood nickname, or risk being caught indulging in a daydream starring him in the lead role. No matter how strong her emotions grew for the boy whose torso laid pressed up against her, she continued to sweep them under the rug and attend these friendly playdates that left her stomach uneasy. And the various junk food splattered on the coffee table before them had very little to do with it.
No one warned her about how easy it was to fall for your best friend, but at the same time it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you that it would happen, especially when your best friend is as attractive as her’s. The same one that made her cry when he broke her green crayon in kindergarten, and the same one who got in a fist fight in the seventh grade after one of the older boys spread rumors about her. He’d seen her when she had lost her first tooth and when she finally got her braces off and could properly smile at one of his cheesy jokes. She’d seen his face twist when he broke his hand for the first time and he’d held her‘s when she was stood up by the cute soccer player from the rival school. They’d been through it all, but now she wants all of him, and she couldn’t feel more embarrassed and selfish for that.
The movie in front of them flashed to the credits and he straightened to turn the TV off, only to notice she hadn’t realized the movie had ended and instead focused on picking at her nail polish. He brought his hand flat against her lower back and gently rubbed small circles, hoping to grant him her attention. When her eyes bolted to his with pupils floating in a cocktail of shock and confusion, his eyebrows furrowed in response.
“What’s up? Everything okay?”
Her head shook yes before he could finish his question, and even she knew that he could tell she was lying. But he wasn’t one to press.
“Yeah, I’m good.” She quickly replied, turning her head back to the monitor only to see the screen tinted black.
“Movie was that boring, eh?”
He nudged her jokingly, and she was suddenly aware of how warm she felt under it. Her cheeks warmed, the corners of her lips curled, and she could feel him still looking her with a burning stare. Itching to separate herself from him, she began to stretch and stand up, ignoring the clench in her gut as she did so.
“I get to pick next time.”
She found it easier to look back at him now, sending him a tight-lipped smile and occupied herself with packing her textbooks up. She caught him rolling his eyes with a small curl on his own lips as he watched her. He had promised to help her study for her exams in attempt to convince her to come over after his two week long roadtrip with the team, and she was glad he didn’t know how she wouldn’t have hesitated to see him in the first place. He handed her a folder overflowing with neat notes and printed papers, and at the sight someone might wonder how she managed to have time to sacrifice for a movie. She’d always make time for him.
Two days later she found herself cheering for her best friend in the company of what felt like the entire population of Philadelphia. She watched him toss a puck to a little girl who wore a matching jersey to his, and her mind drifted to the countless times she wore his last name on her back and he sent a puck her way. She could still feel his mother’s hands clasped in her own in close games, as well as his arms lifting her when she showed him an acceptance letter from the University of Pennsylvania, allowing them to continue to be with each other in every step of the way. It was only convenient that his dream of the NHL and her dream school had led both of them to the same city.
He had insisted that she stay in the family and friends suite, not knowing that she  felt far from it. Most, if not all, of the girls in there were in some sort of romantic relationship with one of his teammates. Regardless, she agreed to go, but only so she could see him smile in return.
“You’re Nolan’s girlfriend, right?” were the words directed to her when she had first watched from the suite during his debut season.
“Uh no,” she stammered, chuckling a bit to cover up the fact that her heart threatening to jump out from behind her black sweater. “Just his friend.”
At first she wondered if they then thought she was just a random girl he’d casually been seeing, or if the looks she received afterwards were made out of pity. However, that became a phrase she had grown used to repeating even as she eventually grew closer to the girls. The two never stopped defending their relationship with each other and denying anything more, as it slowly became second nature once someone began making assumptions. But who could blame them? Through the various Instagram posts posing as each other’s dates to weddings and blogs gossiping about this so-called mystery girl, both their group of friends from back home and Philly were waiting for the day the two became official.
“So you’re telling me you guys never hooked up?”
She rolled her eyes, letting out a dramatic sigh and took a large swig of the bitter liquor she held in her hand, gagging as the cool liquid rushed down her throat.
“No, Travis.”
He responded with a strangled noise, eyes blown wide and nearly choked on his bottle of beer.
“Not even a kiss?”
The two remained tucked against a wall of the house party, with TK originally sauntering over with a “You need to relax!” in attempts to coerce her to join him and dance, just after two guys before him did the same.
She lazily lifted her gaze from her plastic cup to the crowd swaying to the bass shaking the floor beneath them, and could briefly feel his muscular chest pressed against her back and his hands lingering on the swell of her hips. It had been the first weekend of their senior year in high school, and their friends and friends of friends had been packed into the basement of one of their classmate’s homes. The two hadn’t really spoken since their sophomore year, growing apart into different friend groups as he became more popular with the cheerleaders and she went away to be a camp counselor for the summer, the two becoming worse at responding to messages as the weather got warmer. But they had been drinking far too much that night, and their tolerance levels were significantly lower than they were now. And she could fill her shirts out more, and his shoulders only seemed to broaden. Yet the way he had snaked his arms around her waist and bent down to murmur a compliment on her new bodysuit that she asked his opinion on before purchasing resembled the confidence only a grown man could have. And she was falling harder than she thought was possible.
The duo had walked home together that night, with her in his hoodie and him holding her from falling over. Knowing her parents like his own, he avoided taking her home in such a state, and instead opted to tread to his house as his parents were away for the weekend.
He had just unlocked the door before hearing her gasp amongst, heightening the buzz of chirping crickets in the otherwise silent night air.
“A shooting star!” she cried, excitedly pointing and feet bouncing like a young child. He went to shush her in attempts to keep their neighbors from waking up, but she pouted before he had the chance to.
“You missed it.”
He shook his head and chuckled, shutting the door behind him and moving to wrap his arms around her.
“Wanna go to our spot?”
And she agreed, allowing him to help her onto his roof just like he did so many times before. They had started this tradition in middle school when Nolan first began getting noticed for his athletic abilities, and would stay up there until curfew passed and her mother called his asking where she was.
“You don’t need to worry about me, Nol. I would’ve been fine,” she assured him, snuggling further into his chest when he told her he wanted to make sure she got home safe. “You could’ve finally brought home a girl tonight.”
His hand squeezed her side, and she could feel him turn to look at her but she kept her eyes on the stars blanketing them.
“But I only want to hang out with you.”
She wish that were the case now, because her best friend stook out like a sore thumb in the midst of the house party. He could be seen across the room chatting up a girl with much smoother hair and a brighter smile than she ever could possess. Their lips hung dangerously close to each other, and his gaze raked over the girl’s body in a way she had never recognized before. She couldn’t shake the image of Nolan’s so close to her’s that night on the roof, as there was no telling how the story would’ve concluded had he not ended up holding her hair back as she threw up all of the contents in her stomach. If only she drank enough so that she couldn’t recall that night.
Turning back to Travis who held a flicker in his eye, knowing she spotted her best friend turning himself into a pair with yet another girl who was not her, she let out a sigh and grabbed his hand that remained outstretched.
“Does the offer still stand?”
Let’s do something Wednesday.
The text had been simple, and served as the only form of communication exchanged between them since they’d separated at the party over the weekend. Tucking her notebook under her arm, she sped out of the lecture hall, fumbling to type out a message, quickly pulling up her calendar to make sure she didn’t schedule her group project meeting that night. Her shoulders tensed as she felt an impact, her eyes leaving her screen to find an unfamiliar broad chest.
“Oops,” she piped, bending her knees to pick up her notebook she managed to drop in the process, yet the stranger had already beat her to it. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be. It was my fault.”
A deep voice, just not quite as deep as Nolan’s, enveloped her eardrums, and she found herself swimming in silk as his lips continued to move.
“Wouldn’t want you to lose that.”
His hand grazed her own as he handed her notebook back, touch lingering for a bit too long to make her feel comfortable, causing her cheeks to flush out of instinct.
She thanked him and he smiled with teeth bright and nearly perfect, holding the door open and leaving her to respond to her best friend who’d cause her phone to buzz a second time.
I’ll pick you up for lunch?
Sounds good she replied, shaking the feeling the boy had left her with as her best friend’s image clouded over her mind.
Just two days later, she walked into the same lecture hall, earphones in and a black flyers hat resting on her head. Dropping her bag onto the space next to her, she rubbed her eyes as she impatiently waited for the lecture to begin, not bothering to take out her notes to follow along. Her project meeting had lasted for two more hours longer than intended, and no one seemed to agree on anything. And listening to her professional rattle on at 8:00am the following morning had been the last thing she wanted to do.
She could feel a presence next to her followed by a light tap on her shoulder, forcing her to irritably remove an earphone before turning around. She was greeted with a familiar smile, undoubtedly handsome and this time small dimples appearing to frame full lips. And the same silky voice who held the door open for her days before and spoken again.
“Is anyone sitting here?”
She shook her head no, hastily moving her stuff away and struggled to suppress a yawn in the process, earning a chuckle from the stranger.
“Long night I take it?”
This time she smiled back, adjusting the hat on her head and chewed on the inside of her cheek.
“Yeah, absolutely.”
The boy kept a steady conversation throughout the lecture, hushed and calculated, but definitely caught her blushing more than once throughout their exchange. He held the door open yet again, this time walking out of the building with her to continue talking to her about the boring topic of today’s class discussion. Her eyes left his, know squinting from laughing at a joke they had shared together, and recognized the Jeep pulling around the corner. Before she could excuse herself, he asked for her number, offering to send her the mediocre notes he managed to scribble down than she had been too tired to take. She was charmed and agreed, taking his phone from his hands.
Bidding her new friend goodbye, she climbed into the passenger seat, earning a brisk greeting from the player driving.
“Who was that?”
He was referring to the new face she was with just a minute ago.
“Someone from class.”
She heard him grumble something, acknowledging that he heard her, but went unknowing what else had been going through his mind. After knowing him for so long, she could usually decipher exactly what he was feeling. This time his expression went unreadable. But before she could ask him that or how his morning practice went, he reached his hand from across her seat to the radio, increasing the volume of the music and drowning out any questions that remained floating in her mind.
The boy had texted her multiple times for the remainder of that week, at first with questions about the homework that slowly evolved into lengthy conversations about each other’s lives outside of the class. She had soon learned he was heavily involved in his fraternity, and had aspirations of eventually attending law school. But it proved difficult to avoid the fact that the conversations had grown increasingly flirtatious, and she could feel her best friend’s stare on her as he watched her jump to respond to a message whenever she was with him.
It didn’t take long for the two to meet up outside of class. With midterms quickly approaching, they intended to study with each other, and that had been the excuse she used when telling her best friend she couldn’t make it to their plans.
“So sorry, Nol. I’ve just got so much work to do. I’ll see you at the game?”
Maybe meeting the boy from her class was a sign that she needed to stop pining after her best friend, someone she was definitely not meant to be with. And she could not shake the image of Nolan flirting with the girl at the party and responding the infinite DMs he receives on Instagram from her mind. Besides, it wasn’t every day a cute boy paid attention to her.
But he wasn’t stupid. And she knew this. She’d always make time for him before, and as a perfectionist herself, she rarely struggled to keep up with her work anyways. She could tell he would quickly catch onto her hesitation in bringing him up in discussion, and especially when small things that reminded her of him made her smile and she couldn’t help but share.
He never said anything to her until one day, with his phone illuminated with her face, she once again began to come up with an excuse not to see him.
“You’re always blowing me off,” he said it lightheartedly, but she could tell it hurt him. “Got me watching shitty movies with TK now.”
She nearly winced, but forced a smile anyways.
“I bet he’s great at cuddling.”
She could hear Nolan snort and could see him sit up straighter in the frame.
“He misses you. You’re still coming tomorrow, right?”
A few curses left her mouth, completely forgetting that a few of the guys were getting together for a small get together. She’d already made plans with the boy from class, and began telling this to Nolan.
“But you don’t have any exams left.”
She sighed, not really knowing what to say.
“Yeah, but I still have classes.”
His frustration didn’t go unseen, and she could tell he was growing more irritable by the second. If it wasn’t clear that she’d been the one pushing them away from each other, this was the proof. And it rang loud for the both of them.
“Bring him too.”
“I-What?”
Shocks could be felt coursing throughout her body, nearly causing her to drop her phone as she walked to her next class.
“Yeah, I wanna meet him.”
After struggling to find a reason why she couldn’t do just that, she finally agreed, texting him to notify him of his extended invitation, which she prayed he’d turn down.
What she didn’t know, however, was that the boy was a hockey fan. A huge hockey fan. And when she told him about her friends after he inquired, he hadn’t stopped talking about them since. This time he was talking about their game last week.
“Did you see Konecny’s assist in the last quarter? Man’s a beauty.”
Of course she’d seen it. She’d been at the stadium when it happened, and the one before that as well. It felt nearly impossible not to laugh at how excited and boyish he’d been acting since hearing the news, if it even counted as news. And she hoped her friends wouldn’t scare him away too much, or vice versa.
But thankfully, they all welcomed him with stretched arms. All except for one.
She hadn’t understood what caused Nolan to be in such a sour mood, or if she had any control over the situation to begin with. The moment she had arrived with the guest of honor to his apartment, he hadn’t uttered anything other than a “hey” and a nod in their general direction.
From the outside, he came across as a lone wolf. Quiet and analytical, his deep eyes judged a scene in front of him with wisdom beyond his years. However, she knew well enough to know this wasn’t one of those cases. He could be seen scowling at anything the boy had said, even if it caused the rest of his friends to laugh. And he didn’t even try to hide it.
The group had been engrossed in a lively conversation about who knows what, because the two best friends could be seen dazing off into their own worlds, with one sizing another up and the other watching him do so.
“She never told me she knew you guys,” the boy mentioned, wrapping an arm around her shoulder as she bit her tongue to keep her form rolling her eyes at his remark.
“I guess it didn’t came up,” she shrugged, leaning into his touch.
“So are you guys fucking or what?”
The room came to a halt when a piercing, deep voice grumbled out something that no one expected to hear, all eyes setting in on the centerman with his arms crossed, eyes challenging his newest guest that had his mouth hung open.
“What the fuck, Nolan?”
Her voice sounded strangled and upset, and he brought his lethargic gaze to set in on her, and shrugged as if he hadn’t said anything out of line.
“You’ve never brought guys around.”
This only made her skin boil more. He’d been the one who told her to invite him, and he’d been the one who insisted on meeting him.
“You out of everyone would know that girls and boys can be just friends.”
Nolan scoffed, and the mood quickly changed. The rest who watched the little exchange moved to get ready to leave, claiming that it was getting late and promised their girlfriends they’d be back soon. She stood up as well, veins throbbing in anger and ready to slam the door behind her as she left. However, she felt her wrist get caught be a grip she’s grown fairly accustomed to over the years.
“Talk to him.”
She knew he was right, being best friends with the two of them, even if she so badly wanted to punch everyone’s teeth in at the moment. Travis then gave her a squeeze for encouragement and whispered good luck.
The boy already knew what was coming, but nonetheless nodded understandably as she came up with an excuse as to why she had to stay back a little longer.
“I’m gonna help clean up if that’s cool?”
He gave her a hug with a quick peck on the cheek, the biggest form of affection he’d shown to her since they’d met. But she didn’t have time to dwell on that right now.
She had found Nolan perched on balcony of his apartment, and he could hear her soft footsteps padding towards him. The only sound shared between them were the opening of another beer, and the noises the city’s nightlife left below. She moved to sit next to him, shivering in cool night. If the tension hadn’t been so thick, she would’ve lifted his arm and tucked herself underneath. But instead opted to pull her sweater’s sleeves over the knuckles, kneeing bouncing to put her mind at ease.
“If you wanted to feel loved, I was always here.”
Neither of them had expected that the man of few words to be the first to break the silence. It was so quiet, but she could hear him. She had been rehearsing a speech in her head, making a point to tell him off for ruining what could’ve been something good for her. That his remark was uncalled for and stupid, and insinuated everything that was false. And how he had no reason to be upset, because this was all his doing. But instead, his words left her speechless, and her mind was now drawing a blank.
“Y’know I love you,” he continued, and she in fact did know. The duo always made sure to express how much they cared for each other, but that only came about maybe around a birthday or a holiday of sorts. “And if you needed more love, I could’ve given that to you.”
Her heart swelled at his words, and she worried that it would pop in her chest. Her throat felt dry, but her eyes wet. And she struggled to choke out a response.
“It’s not that simple, Nolan.” She kept shaking her head, picking at her nails now that her nail polish washed away. “It’s a different kind of love, and we’re never going to be able to feel that with each other.”
“Why not?” His chair scraped against the concrete, and her turned his body to face her. “I know that’s it’s a different kind of love. I know what kind of love it is. I’m just saying that if you want it, I can give it to you.”
He brought his hand to cup her face, her pupils wide with fear and vulnerability and he turned her to look directly at him.
“Why won’t you just let me love you?”
And she couldn’t tell her who went for it first, except all she knew was that they were left feverishly kissing under a blanket of stars that shone slightly brighter this time, basking in each other’s warmth and content with calling each other home.

Field Date
Actually a late submission, but here goes nothing.
Prompt: Day 14: Spring Day @choicesaprilchallenge
Characters: Aiden Zhou x m!mc (Joseph Grierson)
Word count: 931
Description: Joseph and Aiden enjoy a spring date in a field
“Man, this is the life,” said Joseph after taking a deep breath of the fresh spring air.
“I couldn't have said it better,” said Aiden as held Joseph’s hand.
“Yeah, I can just lie down on a field of blooming flowers with the most wonderful boyfriend by my side all day. We have sunny weather, a clear sky, a gentle breeze, and so many colors all around us. But most of all, we have each other and nobody else to worry about for the time being.”
Joseph turned his head towards Aiden and smiled. A break from the hustle and bustle of life was what they sorely needed, especially since the musical rehearsal for Spotlite began. As much as they enjoyed hanging out with their friends, they also wanted to save some time just for themselves. Moreover, Aiden will be graduating by the end of the school year, so they better spend as much time together as possible.
Aiden sighed as Joseph caressed his cheek. “I just wish you would be by my side forever,” said Aiden.
“Is this about college? I thought Terman U accepted your application.”
“It’s not just that. I fear that we’ll drift apart someday like a lot of high school sweethearts do. Ever since you came to Berry High, my life has changed for the better despite the ups and downs. You’re brave, inspiring, and more than just a great friend. After listening to the works I’ve composed of you, I dread the say we’ll probably drift apart. It would hurt me after everything we’ve done. You’re my greatest muse, and I can’t imagine losing you, Joe.”
A tear rolled from Aiden’s eye, and Joseph wiped it off before it could reach the ground. “Same, Maestro. I sometimes wonder what would happen to us once we graduate high school. Ever since I came to Berry High, you’ve been a great source of comfort in the midst of whatever life throws at me. We’ve helped our school defeat Hearst at last year’s homecoming, took down Ashley Faris, and got Berry and most of Hearst get along together. I enjoy listening to you playing the piano, especially your compositions. Your dedication, intelligence, and creativity are what drive me to you, and I don’t want to lose you too.
“Nevertheless, I believe that as long as we continue working on our relationship, we’ll stick together no matter what happens. Besides, I’d like to go to Terman U with you someday.”
Aiden smiled and caressed Joseph, who kissed his boyfriend’s forehead. They got up and sat on the field. Joseph wrapped one arm around Aiden, who did the same to Joseph.
“Let’s just enjoy the beauty of spring for now,” Joseph pointed upwards. “After all, look at how bright the sun is shining in the bright blue sky. It hasn’t been a long time since we have this view.”
“Actually, we do since spring began.”
“Oh. I must have lived under a rock or something.”
They laughed together. “Well, I’m not that great with humor, but at least I try my best to entertain you," Joseph added.
“Don’t worry, Joe. You’ve done your best. Besides, Myra’s puns are a handful sometimes.”
Joseph laid his head on Aiden’s shoulder as they cuddled together. He took another deep breath while looking at various flowers blooming among a seemingly endless expanse of grass.
“Can I ask you a question?” he said.
“Of course,” replied Aiden.
“Do you have a favorite flower? Mine’s the tulip because they may look closed, but they still manage to look beautiful no matter what.”
He picked a red tulip and placed it on Aiden’s hair. “Just like you,” he added.
Aiden blushed. “Thanks. I don’t have a particular favorite because each of them is a great source of inspiration for my music, but I do know this place has the greatest adornment of them all.”
“Oh?”
“You,” Aiden wrapped his other arm around Joseph and pulled him for a kiss. Joseph slowly closed his eyes and wrapped his other arm around his boyfriend. He savored every second their lips touched within their pressed lips, their hands rubbed the other partner’s back, and the warmth inside them building up. The only thing cooling them was the breeze, but it didn’t matter when they were embracing each other.
After what seemed to be an eternity passed, Aiden pulled away from Joseph and kissed his neck.
“Maestro,” moaned Joseph, who fell on the ground while Aiden continued kissing him. If it wasn’t for his shirt, his back would've itched from the grass, though that didn’t stop him from wondering how it would really feel on his back.
After a few seconds, Aiden pulled away and stared at his boyfriend. “I love you, Joe,” he said.
“I love you too, Maestro,” replied Joseph before they kissed on the lips again. They rolled around the grass and flowers, causing some petals to stick to their clothes. At the same time, the scent of flowers perfumed the air, incensing them to kiss even harder.
Joseph then kissed Aiden’s neck, causing him to moan his nickname with every kiss. Afterwards, they kissed in the lips again for a few seconds before finally stopping.
“Man, that was something,” said Joseph as he stood up. There were red, pink, yellow, and purple petals all over them, though neither bothered sweeping them off.
“If only this moment would never end,” Aiden also stood up. “It was great while it lasted.”
“We can always save this for another time. Promise me we’ll do this as much as we could.”

BECAUSE I’M NOT POPULAR, I’LL READ WATAMOTE: CHAPTER #166
Baseball season is in the air! Thankfully, you don’t need to be a fan of the sport to like this chapter. So long as you enjoy the stupid antics of a bunch of socially awkward teenage girls, there’ll be plenty of fun to be had. And of course, it wouldn’t be Watamote if they didn’t include a bunch of expertly intricated plot threads and natural character development as well. With all of Nico Tanigawa’s passions coming together once again, I can say that this chapter is definitely in top form.
So without further ado, let’s play ball!
Chapter 166: Because I’m Not Popular, I’ll Go Cheer
Tumblr media
Tomoko getting flabbergasted just by Katou existing never gets old.
Tumblr media
You know, I always had the impression that Tomoko wording things in the most perverted way was just a gut reaction due to her mind being perpetually in the gutter. But now, I feel like her answer here is just too on the nose to be anything but deliberate. IdiotPerv!Tomoko is hilarious, but TrollPerv!Tomoko is too powerful.
Tumblr media
Consequently, Tomoko can’t say shit without it biting her in the ass.
Tumblr media
Okada with the save. Sure, she probably didn’t want to look like a slacker from Katou either, but still. If Katou’s the mom friend, then Pineapple-chan’s the exasperated, but supportive onee-san friend.
Tumblr media
I just realized that this is a standard routine with these two: Yuri will say something tactless and Mako will call her name out in admonishment. If this has been going on since they first met, then Mako has boundless patience and/or is the absolute best friend that no person should ever take for granted. Not that
Yuri does...mostly.
Tumblr media
Y'all can tell that baseball fan Ikko had a blast drawing the backgrounds in this chapter.
Tumblr media
Speaking of which, I’m 212% certain that Komiyama’s role in this chapter is to be the mouthpiece for Nico Tanigawa’s baseball fanatism. Given that it’s technically in-character (for who is basically their self-insert), and baseball chapters can only feasibly happen every hundred chapters or so, I’m fine with the mangakas taking these little indulgences.
Tumblr media
Hey, let the girl live a little! Komi’s gotta cram ten chapters worth of dialogue she won’t get into one.
Tumblr media
Pardon me, Tomoko, but you seem to have left your self-awareness by the entrance to the stadium.
Tumblr media
Naturally, Tomoko hates that Komiyama isn’t making a fool of herself in front of her mom-crush. It’s easy to forget that so long as you don’t set off her berserk buttons, Komiyama is actually quite...normal. Like, being amicable with others and casually humble-bragging is her default state.
Tumblr media
Nico Tanigawa’s artistic habit of putting nicknames under faces always amuses me.
Tumblr media
There’s being upset, and then there’s being petty. We all know that Tomoko is aware that Itou is in the band, and any other day, she wouldn’t hold that against the girl. But because she’s salty over Komiyama acting cool, her sensibilities revert back to Year-1 Tomoko logic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, if I were a more crass person, I could make the assumption that the majority of those underclassmen were a combination of girls admiring Fuuka’s “cool beauty” status and boys wanting to check out an attractive senior girl in a cheerleading outfit, discrepancies notwithstanding.
But I won’t.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, Miho. Based on the above cheers, she seems like your average popular girl, but if you recall, she got a kick out of Katou’s “offers” to Tomoko. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a bit of a mean streak in her.
Btw...armpits? Okay, then...
Tumblr media
You’d think that by now, Tomoko would learn some subtlety before pulling shit like this.
Tumblr media
Normally, I’d call Tomoko out for shenanigans since I thought she was mostly over the whole “slut-shaming” thing. But given how she wasn’t thinking this when the girls in her class wore cheerleading outfits during last year’s sports festival (that we know of), I can only assume that this is more of Tomoko’s jealousy due to Fuuka’s friendship with Katou.
Either that, or Tomoko just doesn’t want to admit she finds her hot.
Tumblr media
I think we’re all in agreement that Ucchi’s gonna lose massive points for this.
On the other hand, the image of Emoji Girl screaming about Tomoko’s crimes through a megaphone is peak absurdity, and I’ve been laughing my ass off for twelve minutes.
Tumblr media
In all seriousness, I’m kind of glad that Tomoko is finally getting her way overdue karma for all her skirt-peeping. Sure, it’s all been played for comedy, but that doesn’t change the fact that its sexual harassment, or the fact that she’s more than likely gotten away with it for being female.
It’s all fun and games until your stalker calls you out on it.
Tumblr media
LIES.
Tumblr media
You know...maybe it is Tomoko’s fetish. She’s done it so frequently, and it’s always been portrayed as just another one of Tomoko’s “quirks”. But given the context of all those occurrences, having a skirt-peeping fetish actually sounds very plausible. Thank you, Yuri, for that insight.
Looking at Katou’s expression, it might be her fetish, too...
Tumblr media
Seeing Tomoko get more and more mortified as everyone keeps dogpiling on her shame makes for quite the cathartic reading.
Add on to the fact that Komiyama, the biggest perv of all, is the most dignified at this moment just makes this whole chapter an absolute treat.
Tumblr media
Considering that Tomoko basically just got outed as a pervert in the middle of a crowd of spectators, she’s taking this quite well. First-year Tomoko could’ve had a legit panic attack if that had happened, but now, she actually has enough nerve to retaliate. Sure, Tomoko had some decent ammo with the Tanabata wish, so she likely had more guts than she would’ve been, but it’s still impressive nonetheless.
Tumblr media
Sasaki Fuuka–putting a new spin on the term “victim-blaming”.
Tumblr media
Komiyama can be the reasonable one while Tomoko is the crazy pervert, or Tomoko can be the reasonable one while Komiyama is the crazy pervert.
But the universe just can’t have both be reasonable or perverted at the same time.
Tumblr media
As someone who knows jacksh*t about sports, I have to admit that this is an interesting fun fact if it can be applied to the popularity of real-life sports teams and cheer squads.
Tumblr media
I could totally see this becoming a meme in the Watamote fandom. Anyone?
Tumblr media
These moments of zero dialogue, sometimes a whole page’s worth, excel at immersing the reader into the story. Suddenly, you’re not just reading about characters in a story. You’re now experiencing first hand what’s like to be at a baseball game, with a few familiar faces from the band and cheer teams making it feel a lot more lively.
Tumblr media
If it weren’t for all the wonderful peeps on Reddit, I never would’ve caught that this is the same baseball manager we’re seen periodically since the beginning of the series. You know, the one Tomoko did that fake dub for?
Perhaps I’ll call her...Beta!Nemo.
Tumblr media
A PSA to all you non-sports fans: You can now pretend to be interested in your favorite high-school teams just by tuning into your local service provider.
Go, Harajuku Makuhari!
Tumblr media
You know, I think I mentioned before that I wasn’t sure what Komiyama’s career prospects were.
Now I’ve got a clue.
Tumblr media
Yo, I could feel that pain from my screen.
Tumblr media
For a second, I thought this was Reina, given we can’t see her eyes and that she’s manspreading (sounds like something she would do). But then I pictured her actually signing up for cheerleading and...yeah, no.
Tumblr media
Not to sound all pretentious if you already know, but cheerleading really is one of the most difficult, dangerous, and underappreciated sports there is. In addition to all the physical risks, you have to maintain an endlessly cheery disposition, even when it’s hard. That’s why I call it the “customer service job” of the sports industry.
Tumblr media
The go-to method to keep your in-story sports team at peak realism:
Unwavering mediocrity.
Tumblr media
As opposed to them hurrying up and win? Quite the pessimist you are, Tomoko...
Tumblr media
not.
As startling as it is to hear these words come out of Tomoko’s mouth, it’s not entirely unfounded. For all her negative worldviews, crude behavior, and general apathy, the one thing that has always been constant about Tomoko is that she knows things can be better and she wants things to be better. She never got the chance to really strive for it back then when she had nothing to latch onto. But now that she’s got friends, Tomoko realizes that she can feasibly make some of those ideals a reality.
Tumblr media
Their unbridled admiration is sweeter than diabetes.
Tumblr media
Insert long-winded discussion of a related social phenomenon that probably exists, but the author is too lazy to research here.
Tumblr media
She...didn’t deny it.
Character development...I guess?
Tumblr media
I was wondering where Tomoko would draw the line on her slut-shaming towards Fuuka. Granted, it’s probably easier to feel empathy when you can see that shit happening from other people rather than yourself.
But seriously, Katou? Pimping out your friend? You terrify me more and more with each passing chapter.
Tumblr media
See what I’ve been getting at? Tomoko knows that realistically speaking, her summer is probably not going to be anything extraordinary. Inconveniences will occur, moments of boredom will arise, and missed opportunities will transpire. But as I’ve reiterated time and again, even those “plain” experiences can become delightful memories when shared with those you care about.
That’s going to be a crucial feeling from this point on, it looks like. ‘Cause based on Yuri’s expression, she may have the most difficulty resonating with that kind of emotion. Let's see just how Yuri handles an expanding social circle–Tomoko included–that’s a little more bright-eyed than she is.
We’re in the seventh inning stretch of Tomoko’s third year, and time will only tell if it ends in a victory.

이대휘, Lee Daehwi
anonymous asked:
Happy (late) thanksgiving! I've seen all (and i mean ALL) of the aegyo daehwi scenarios on tumblr but can i get a request where daehwi is the super cool fashion therapist bestfriend that caught feelings? Love all your writing!! 💖
Group: AB6IX
Member: Daehwi
(A/N) Read with this song, I beg you.
.

.
When He Needs Her In Early Spring
Daehwi and his best friend sat where they usually did when life got too crazy. Outside on the curb at the nearest McDonald’s, stuffing their faces, swapping stories and showing each other funny YouTube videos.
Something about eating cheap cheeseburgers, fries and Cola when he knew his manager would be annoyed at him about it felt lovely. Maybe it was also because he spent that time with a pretty cool person.
He side-eyed her choice of black sweats, a dark blue tee-shirt with a leather jacket, and her absolutely ancient white tennis shoes, complete with dirt and grass stains.
He sighed to himself, shaking his head a little.
She was cool, albeit a little unfashionable.
He looked back down at his phone, scrolling through his Stress-Away playlist, trying to choose the best song for the occasion. “Hey, hon,” he said, using the nickname that had naturally grown between them over the years. “You know I love you, but we’ve gotta get you some new clothes.”
She laughed through her nose; just a short puff of air, never once looking up from her phone, too encapsulated in the memes from her Twitter feed. “Dude,” she said. “These are pajamas.”
He clicked Little Star by Standing Egg, letting out a relieved huff of air when the first guitar strums reached his ears. “That may be so,” he started, “but coming from the Fashion Master, that doesn’t really give you a pass.”
Eyes still glued to the screen, she reached for her ice tea, pressing the cold plastic cup to his nape. He jerked away with a disgruntled under-the-breath shriek.
“Gimme a break, Fashion Master,” she chuckled. “It’s midnight,” she reminded him. “I was two inches away from a soft pillow and a warm blanket, so just eat the burger and listen to your healing playlist, ‘kay? I’ll still be here.”
He was still massaging the cold buzz out of his neck, but her words made him gradually slow to a stop. He mumbled to himself, “It is midnight, isn’t it”, much more of a statement or realization than a question.
He looked over at her, examining her side-profile. She was all tired eyes, messy hair and bare-face, but here she was at midnight, sitting in front of McDonald’s and eating a burger that was 75% bun and misplaced ketchup instead of sleeping at home.
And she didn’t ask him any questions about it. She never did, in fact. She seemed to just accept that that’s what friends do. They’re there for each other, no matter the time or situation.
She let out a small laughed. “Hwi, look at this one,” she said, finally looking over at him. She angled her screen toward him, showing him a funny picture she’d spotted. He didn’t quite expect it to be of him.
Daehwi gasped, snatching the phone from her. “What is that?” he gaped. “How could they take such an ugly picture of me?!”
She laughed again, her shoulders scrunching upwards and her feet stomping unconsciously. “I love your fans,” she said impishly. “They give me all the blackmail material I need, and then some!”
He pouted. “They’re lucky I love them...” he said. He pressed the button on top of her phone, putting it to sleep. He set it down next to him with a sigh. He looked up into the sky, a lonely expanse of blackness. More of the song reached his ears. “I wish there were stars in Seoul,” he mused aloud.
She hummed thoughtfully, following his gaze into the night sky. “Well, technically,” she started, “there are. We just can’t see them, ‘cause the lights are always on. Less lights, more stars. It’s called science.”
He scoffed, but it was more like a way to mask his laughter. “I never would’ve guessed,” he joked, nudging her shoulder with his own. He sighed. “I know,” he said. “I just think they’re pretty. Give a little extra life to the sky, y’know?”
She leaned a little closer, their shoulders touching. It was a comfortable feeling, as it was something she did often at times like this—just a small touch to assure that she was there for him. “I know,” she said softly. “We’ll have to try to be bright enough, won’t we?”
He nodded. “Yeah,” he said. “I guess so.” He shoved five fries in his mouth. “These are so good,” he said, visibly melting into the flavor.
She chuckled. “I know, right?” She took some for herself. “Really bad for you too, but screw it.”
That made him laugh. “Hey, can I ask you a question?” he wondered. She nodded, a silent ‘go for it’. “Why don’t you ever ask why I tell you to come out and meet you at these weird hours?”
She shrugged. “’Cause it doesn’t really matter,” she said simply. “All I need to know is: you always come out of these little escapades happier than when you went it. That’s enough for me, to be honest.”
Daehwi’s eyes widened and his cheeks burned. Suddenly, he felt pretty relived that it was dark and she wasn’t looking directly at him.
He cleared his throat awkwardly, inching away from her shoulder just a little. She didn’t seem to notice, though. “Thanks...” he said. “You’re a good friend.”
She smiled. “I know,” she said confidently. She didn’t speak again for a while, contenting herself with swaying back and forth while she hummed along to Little Star. It was one of her favorites, too.
Silently and covertly, he glanced over at her again. Her eyes were closed, her head tilted back a little, the breeze blowing through her messy hair. She looked bright, back-lit by the fast food restaurant behind them.
Surprisingly, he found himself thinking, “She looks pretty”.
He stayed quite for a moment, just listening to her humming along, watching her sway to and fro. “Hey,” he said quietly as the song was coming to an end.
She opened her eyes, looking at him. “Yeah?” she said, matching his tone.
He argued with himself in his head for a moment whether or not it was a wise thing to say, measuring any possible consequences. After much angel-and-devil consideration, he decided to just go for it. They were friends, after all.
“Your voice is nice.”
When He Needs Her In Mid-Fall
Daehwi leaned back in his desk chair, stretching and getting shocked at the way his back cracked with the action. He’d been hunched over his desk in the studio for too long, that was obvious.
He looked at the clock, scowling at the time. Yet, looking at how much work he’d gotten done, he couldn’t really be angry. But thinking about all the work he still had to get done?
He groaned, rubbing his heavy, tired eyes.
He could just go home—he’d gotten enough done—but the perfectionist inside of him really didn’t want to do that. He had this underlying fear that if his work wasn’t good enough, people would just think, “Oh, it’s because he’s so young”.
He clenched his fists. He couldn’t understand why people would doubt him for something as superficial as that. Hadn’t he proven himself enough?
He didn’t want to go to sleep, he didn’t want to work—and he couldn’t seem to find an in-between.
Instinctively, his hand went to his phone, hitting the first speed dial after his mom. Once he heard the other line pick up, without missing a beat, he spoke. “Bring me some food and listen to me whine and complain for a few hours,” he said.
He could envision his friend pulling away from the phone and staring at it for a second with a quirked brow. “What’s the magic word?” he finally heard her voice from the receiver.
He softened, feeling himself melt into his tired, half-dead state. “Please?” he asked softly. He could picture he gentle smile when she said, “I’ll be over in ten”, before the line clicked out, leaving a resounding dullness in his ears.
Ah, there she was.
She was the in-between he was searching for. She was the one sure thing in his fuzzy gray area of life.
He nibbled his thumbnail, a strange feeling bubbling in his chest. ‘What a good friend...’ he thought, though he felt a little shaky on the conviction behind it. He wasn’t sure why, though. By all accounts, she was a good friend.
The best of the best.
Maybe that’s why she made him so nervous.
When He Needs Her In Summer
Daehwi looked back and forth, trying to search through the crowd for any signs of his friend’s head of hair. He stood on his tip-toes every five seconds or so, trying to get a better look.
Nothing.
He huffed, tapping his foot impatiently and waiting for her to come around the corner. “You’re dead when you get here,” he muttered under his breath. He checked his watch, feeling his heart sink a little.
She wasn’t even late. He was just early and anxious, which was never a good combination. Without thinking, he started pouting, leaning against the unlit streetlamp behind him with his arms crossed.
Tap, tap he felt on his shoulder.
He whipped around at the familiar touch. “Hi!” he said, a little quicker and a little louder than he might’ve hoped for. A little more excited too, earning a few stares from passerbys.
She looked shocked for a moment before smiling, a giggle falling from her lips. “Well, aren’t you being cute today,” she said, poking at his stomach.
He flinched away from the ticklish sensation. “Stop it!” he said, trying to sound stern. “We’re literally in public—don’t embarrass me.”
She raised a brow. “Did being in public ever stop you from embarrassing me before?” His lack of response was her confirmation. “I rest my case!” she yelled, casing after him with fingers ready to dance across his torso.
He screeched, running and shouldering through the card, trying to get into the mall. Hopefully, he’d be able to lose her in there.
...Did he really want to lose her, though?
When She Needs Him In The Bad Times
Daehwi flopped on the bed, tired, sweaty and exhausted after a long day of schedules and practice. His cellphone—dead and black-screened since lunch time—was held loosely in his hands, barely any grip-strength left in him.
With his last burst of energy, he sat up and reached for his charger, plugging in his phone. He was sure he’d missed a few notifications, but he didn’t think they’d be anything important.
In a matter of seconds, the screen blinked to life, sporting a disheartening 1% full battery icon in the upper right-hand corner. His notification started popping up. A few missed texts, a missed call from his mom (he’d call her back later), a few Twitter and YouTube notifications, and...
His heart sank.
12 missed calls from 👏Hon👏
Suddenly, all of the energy returned to his body, making him fly to his feet, a concerned furrow between his brows. She never called very often unless something was very, very wrong. He was the one that called her more often, she just let him do his thing, because she never knew when he’d be busy.
But it seemed this time—when she saw it urgent enough to call 12 times—she didn’t care much whether he was busy or not. She just needed her friend.
He felt his eyes water. She needed her friend, but he wasn’t there, all because he’d fallen asleep playing games the night before.
“Hey, Daehwi,” he heard Youngmin’s voice. The door opened. “I was wondering if—” The leader’s eyes widened. “You’re crying,” he said obviously, worry lacing his tone.
With a quick sniff and a swipe across his watery eyes, he grabbed a hoodie out of his closet and shouldered past the older boy. “Sorry, Youngmin,” he said. “I’ve gotta go.”
The rapper grabbed his arm, very gentle and nonthreatening. “It’s her, isn’t it?” he said seriously.
Daehwi turned his head to look at him. “Yeah,” he said softly.
He nodded slowly. “Knew it,” he said under his breath. His fingers slipped away from his wrist. “You know you love her, right?”
Daehwi’s blood ran cold, yet his skin felt so hot. It was a stark, goosebumps-raising contrast. He couldn’t bring himself to answer. Not yet.
“Later, okay...?” he whispered.
He could tell Youngmin was a little disappointed in his lack of admission, but the kind older brother he always was, he just nodded, sighing a little. “Go find her,” he said simply, ushering him toward the door. “Don’t forget your coat!” he called after him.
                                                      +++++
He didn’t need to go searching all around Seoul to find her, because he knew exactly where she saw. She didn’t wander when she was sad. She didn’t go to some nostalgic place that made her feel and remember—she blocked herself away and hid in her house, shutting almost everyone out.
She made  a proverbial pillow fort in her heart and played music with earbuds in, so that way she couldn’t hear the cars passing by or her own thoughts. She was her own worst enemy, in every way.
When she was good, she was great. But she spent up all that good energy taking care of everyone else, so she had nothing left for herself.
He was someone who used her kindness and unselfish heart quite often. He felt another pang in his chest and he waiting impatiently for the bus to drop him off. He massaged his temples, feeling more tears threaten to well up in his eyes.
“Did I tired you out...?” he breathed out, his breath fogging up the window next to his face. “Focus on yourself more, you jerk,” he mumbled, sniffling a little. He shook his head a little, staring down his reflection with a vengeance, as if saying: ‘You will not cry on this crowded bus, Lee Daehwi’.
He cried a lot as a stress-reliever, but only in private.
The thought suddenly dawned on him. He saw her as another version of private. Anything that he would do or say by himself, he could do and say in front of her. He could tell her anything, because that was the level of trust he had in her.
His breath shook to the point that he had to discreetly cover his mouth, muffling the sound in his cold hands. “That must be so much pressure,” he thought to himself. “Being someone’s confidant. Their safe place.” His stomach churned. “...My all of that.”
The bus came to a stop, idling by the poorly lit bus-stop—one he’d become quite familiar with from his trips to her place. He scooped up the hoodie he’d grabbed from the dorms, a sense of adrenaline rushing to his legs and propelling him out of his seat.
He flew past the driver and straight out the doors, skipping the two steps down all together. His feet made impact with the ground, and maybe on an average day it might’ve stung a little.
The bus driver’s eye widened. “Hey, kid!” he called after Daehwi. “Be careful, you hear?”
He didn’t hear him. He didn’t hear him at all.
The only thought in his head was her—how different, yet painfully similar they were. On an average day, they both carried themselves in different ways and had different thoughts, but on their not so good days?
They both wilted.
They wilted, and they needed something or someone to help them bloom again.
After following his feet through the turns and bumps he was so used to going over, he saw her. She was sitting where she always did when she wasn’t feeling well—on the hood of her car, her knees pulled to her chest, eyes damp and her nose and cheeks painted with red due to the late night breeze.
He stood there off to the side, catching his breath.
She noticed him, but she didn’t say anything. She usually didn’t, because she was always scared that she’d start crying again if she spoke.
Daehwi took a deep breath, the cold stinging his lungs. It didn’t matter, though. With a sigh, he crawled onto the hood with her, noting the way she scooted over a little to give him more room.
He tapped her shoulder and gestured to the orange hoodie in his hand. Without any argument, she lifted her arms, letting him slip it over her head. He was gentle and he took special care around her ears. He pulled the hood down so her could see her better, flattening her hair with tender hands.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly. Those first two words were quiet as the flap of a butterfly’s wings, but that didn’t matter. She was always good at listening to him. “This sounds like such and excuse,” he continued, rubbing her arms, “but my phone died.” He frowned at himself. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.”
She looked him in the eyes, still not saying anything. He could read her well enough, though. That was a look that said, “It’s okay, I understand.”
He sighed, pulling her into a soft hug. “It’s not okay, though...” he mumbled, rocking her gently back and forth while he brushed through her hair with his cold, blue-tipped fingers. “I’m sorry that I’m still not good enough—”
She cut him off with a short smack. “Don’t make this about you!” she choked out, her voice hoarse. Daehwi was shocked that she spoke. “This is about me!” she said. “I had a shitty day!” Her eyes teared up. “For no reason,” she finished. She took a deep breath, trying to study herself.
She buried her face in his neck, nuzzling him. “You’re more than enough,” she whispered weakly. “You’re here. That’s more than I can say for anyone else, and it’s better late than never.”
He was very grateful for the fact that she wasn’t looking at him, because if she did, she would see the tears in his eyes. His arms tightened around her, pulling her closer. “Who do I have to hurt that made you like this?” he breathed. “Tears in your eyes and frown on your lips... It doesn’t suit you at all.”
She shook her head—he was greatly aware of her eyelashes fluttering against his skin.
He knew what that shake of the head meant.
“Don’t do anything,” it spoke more than a thousand words, “just stay with me.”
When She Needs Him In The Good Times
She couldn’t say that she was expecting a call from Daehwi at 4PM to invite her to be his friend-date to a company dinner, but she also couldn’t say that it was unwelcome.
All she’d been doing most of the day was just laying on the couch, watching TV and skimming through a few home living magazines so she could get a few tips on adulting.
“Yo, hon,” Daehwi said once she picked up, which only took about two rings. “You free tonight?”
She didn’t even bother checking her calendar. “Yeah, I’m free,” she said, turning down the volume on the TV. “Why? What’s up?”
“There’s a dinner tonight at Brand New and if I want, I’m allowed to bring someone,” he said. She could feel the excitement dripping off his words. “You wanna come with?”
Her ears perked up with interest. “To the company?” she asked. He hummed a positive answer. “Like a date?” she said without thinking.
Daehwi coughed. “Don’t get it twisted,” he said. “Friend-date,” he clarified. “Friend-date.”
She smiled. “Okay, sounds cool.” She jumped off the couch and shut off the TV, shuffling to her bedroom. She cringed at her wardrobe, rather barren in the fruits that it could offer. “Hey, Hwi...?” she started, putting him on speaker and tossing the phone onto her bed while she rummaged through the closet.
“Yeah?”
She started searching for a pair of heels, realizing suddenly that all of hers were really old and worn. “How fancy is this shindig?” she asked, suddenly feeling a little timid. “Like... Dress code and stuff?”
She heard him click his tongue. “I’ll be over in 20 minutes,” he said before hanging up.
                                                        ++++
“Why do you own a big fat nothing?” Daehwi asked exasperatedly, tossing clothes messily onto the floor as he scoured through her closet like it was a desolate land with nothing to offer.
She crossed her arms, a bit of a pout on her face. “Now you’re just being dramatic...” she muttered. To be honest, this actually brought back a lot of memories for her; him helping her pick out the outfit for her first ever date, her parent’s anniversary, highschool graduation after-party, etc,.
To be frank, she used to have a better fashion sense, but that all changed a few years ago. Daehwi started chasing his career and she just stayed behind, dressing comfortably, working hard and trying to find her way through life.
Sometimes she felt a little felt behind by her dear friend, but then she realized that was silly, because he never forget about her, and she knew that. Not even once. He was like a deeply rooted tree in the respect.
Every one had their own pace, and hers was just a little more relaxed than his. That didn’t mean their paces didn’t still match up every once in a while, leading to moments like this.
She chuckled, recalling how they actually used to comfortably change in front of each other, putting on little fashion shows in their chosen outfits. Of course, they were a lot younger then.
Sometimes she wondered why age changed people so much—things that were normal, comfortable and accepted when they were younger were suddenly such foreign and strange ideas.
She always just shrugged it off as the way life was. Things changed, some things positively and some not so much. Either way, it was unavoidable, and that’s okay.
Daehwi glanced over at her, catching her expression in the corner of his eye. “What’s with the smile?” he asked, a chuckle passing his lips.
She shrugged. “Dunno,” she said simply. “This just feels nostalgic.”
He looked back at her, mirroring her smile. “It does,” he agreed. With a huff, he stood up with a pair of black heels in his hands. “Do you have a Sharpie?”
She furrowed her brows. “Yeah...?” she said, grabbing one off of her desk. “Please don’t tell me you’re gonna draw on my shoes.”
“That’s exactly what I’m gonna do,” he said cheekily, taking the marker from her hand with a sassy twirl. “I don’t know how you managed to scratch these up so bad, but this is a quick fix for it until we buy you a new pair.”
She opened her mouth to object, but he pressed a finger to her lips. “Shush!” he said firmly. “Don’t argue with me.” He bent the shoes a bit, pointing out the way that they were frayed around the area the foot bent. “We’re getting you new ones. Soon,” he emphasized.
He uncapped the Sharpie. “But until then, I’m drawing on your shoes while you change into that,” he said, looking over at the dress he’d hung on the closet door. “I can’t believe you still have it,” he chuckled.
Her eyes raked over the white tea-length halter-top with the exposed back. The skirt was lightly longer in the back, lace hand-sewn around the hem to make it look more fancy. “Of course I do,” she said. “You bought it for me.”
He sucked in his lips, holding back a smile. “Where’d you wear that one?” he asked, trying to pick through his memories. “Your sister’s wedding reception?”
She clicked her tongue, giving him a disapproving look. “Close, but no cigar,” she said.
“What?” The realization dawned on him. He smacked his forehead. “Oh, duh!” he groaned. “Your brother’s!”
“Yup,” she laughed, nodding. She looked back over at the dress, fond memories filling her mind. She’d forgotten that she still had it, but she also didn’t think that she ever could’ve given it away. “Thanks for that, by the way.”
He shrugged, a small smile playing on this lips. “No problem,” he said. “You look good in white.” His smile faded a little, a question forming in his eyes. It was as if he were debating with himself. “You’re gonna make a really pretty bride one day,” he finally said.
She stared at him, but he refused to make eye-contact with her, focusing very closely on his shoe ‘repairs’. She felt a smile break out on her face, showing her teeth and pushing up her cheeks.
She walked to him. He still didn’t look up at her. She pulled him into a side-hug, patting his hair for a moment. “Thanks, cheese-ball,” she said before pushing him back into a fully upright position. He still hadn’t stopped scribbling over the heels’ scuff marks.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, but she noticed the blush on his cheeks. “Just go get changed—we’ve gotta go soon.”
When They Need Each Other On The Lazy Days
“Hey, Hwi?” she said, looking up across the table. They’d gotten a free moment on the weekend, so they decided to have lunch together at an unpopular (but spectacularly delicious) hole-in-the-wall restaurant that was never too crowded.
He looked up from his noodles, letting the ones he’d already scooped up fall back into the bowl. “Yeah?” he said, giving her his undivided attention. He smiled a bit, that cute and funny one at made his eyes crinkle. “What’s up?”
She scanned his face. His expression, his irises, the slope of his nose, his lips—everything about him. “Do you have a crush on me?” she asked without hesitation. She wasn’t afraid to ask him questions like this, because she trusted his honesty and his heart.
He’d never purposely do anything he thought could hurt her.
His eyes widened. If he’d had water in his mouth, he surely would’ve spit it across the room in shock. “I...” he stuttered, struggling to find words. He straightened up in his seat, folding his hands in his lap. He cleared his throat, trying his best to keep eye contact with her. “Why do you ask?”
She set her fork down with a small clatter. “’Cause I’m curious,” she said. She tapped his knee with her shoe under the table, trying to urge him to be a little less stiff. “You can be honest with me.”
He nibbled his bottom lip. “I know I can,” he said. He took a deep breath. “Yeah,” he sighed, “I have a crush on you.”
She smiled, flashing him a thumbs up. “Cool,” she said, going back to eating.
Daehwi stared at her, mouth hanging open. “Do you...” he started awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck, “...feel the same?”
She looked up at him, humming thoughtfully. “Not yet,” she said earnestly. A smile played at the corner of her lips. “But you’re definitely the type of guy I could fall for. Just gimme some time.”
When He Needs Her Always And Forever
He needed her comfortable silence, because he didn’t have to speak understand or be understood.
He needed her driving for him, not just because he didn’t have a license, but also because she looked for focused and endearing.
He needed her shoulder to lean on when he was having a bad day. Or a good one.
He needed her putting his hands in her hoodie pocket when he forgot his gloves, because it felt like she really cared.
He needed her ability to share the responsibility of ‘mature adult’ depending on who was more sulky that day. They were both more mature than they let on, and sometimes, they needed each other to bring out that aspect of themselves.
He needed her to listen to his rants, and he needed to listen to hers in return, because they were always interesting and slightly amusing.
He needed her to make funny parodies of their songs and sing them too loudly in the car, even when the windows were rolled down. Especially the famous, “I should’ve brought gloves~” to the tune of ‘Blind For Love’ when it was really cold out.
He needed her emphatic and often times dripping-with-sarcasm movie commentaries and her post-film in-depth analysis.
He needed her ability to always see him as the coolest guy ever, despite his condition. Whether he was bright and bubbly or not didn’t matter to her. He could be totally emo at times and she’d still think of him in the same way as she always did.
He needed her.
Maybe... He was in love with his best friend.
When She Needs Him Every Minute of Every Day
She needed his “Well! Later, hon” at the end of every phone call, because it was a dumb and familiar nickname, and she’d grown attached to it.
She needed his gentle singing voice, because it made her feel calm when she didn’t even know she was feeling anxious.
She needed his random back-hugs, because they always caught her off guard in the best way; a warm and lovely way.
She needed his late-night phone calls, ‘cause she’d never initiate them and they felt simple and mindless.
She needed the random videos that he sent her, because she didn’t think she needed a video of a panda cuddling its mom with a little puppy friend trying to nuzzle its way in there in her life, but apparently she did.
She needed his random, thoughtless back massages when they were hugging for a while.
She needed him to brush her hair for her when they had sleepovers.
She needed his daily compliments that always made her feel confident, said compliments being different every day—but she also needed his roasts and brutal honesty, always keeping her humble and in check.
She needed his good days and bad days.
She needed him.
Maybe... She was okay with her best friend being in love with her.

*takes a deep breath*
I LOVE LEE DAEHWI WITH MY WHOLE CHEST, EVERY HAIR ON MY HEAD, AND ALL 20 OF MY PHALANGES.
I hope you enjoyed it, Anon! Honestly, I wrote so many different versions of this, but I scrapped all of them, settling on this one. I need to learn to write shorter things, but I always feel like I’m cheating y’all. XD
I hope it turned out okay! The other ones were shorter, snappier and more to the point, but this one had a lot more... Potency, I suppose? Hopefully my sincerity was delivered. 😂 I hope you enjoyed it, beautiful person!
Also, I chose this gif ‘cause he looks so best-friend right here.

This Magic Moment | Sunmack
Who: @lerouxmack & @sunnyfitzherbert
When: During the magic barrier break.
Where: 1162 Wizard Way
What: Mack invites Sunny over to discuss business, but with the magic barrier broken and availability to her powers, she has other things on her mind.
Mack had a great idea for the band's marketing, an idea so good that it just couldn't wait, so he texted Sunny asking her to meet at his cottage ASAP. He figured she'd respond quickly thinking it was an emergency because never before had he even implied he wanted to hang out with her alone for any reason. After their somewhat awkward movie night, Mack had actually been avoiding her as much as possible. Hard to do when she makes up 1/3 of the friend group he'd somehow gotten dragged into. That wasn't fair- he liked both Gerti and Sunny- but Sunny gave him major crazy vibes sometimes and he just didn't know how to handle it solo yet. He waited by the door, ready to answer at first knock, and he did as soon as he heard the light rapping of Sunny's fist on the door. He opened it quickly and pulled her inside, "Sun," He started. A nickname. That was new and weird, but he was on such an idea high it didn't stop him. "Imagine this, okay? All our social go dark for like a week, like we delete everything from all our personal Instagrams and the band's, okay? Then we start dropping hints about playing a secret show, but we make it like one huge scavenger hunt or something. What do you think?" He finished, taking a deep breath in to recover from the almost minute he hadn't been breathing. He wring his hands together, watching her, waiting for her response.
Sunny had been dealing with this magic barrier thing to the best of her ability. Walt had kind of always been a place where she didn’t have to worry about her powers, or even think of them, because back home she tried to use them as much as possible without getting caught. But here? With no mother in sight to stop her? It was proving as difficult as it was for her dad to stop stealing, she was certain. So when Mack invited her over, she really had to remind herself of her mother’s words — “You use your charm for good. Not anything else.” So she wouldn’t be charming Mack tonight, that would be bad and totally against her mother’s wishes. As soon as Mack opened the door, though, and called her ‘Sun’.....Well, she was being tested for sure. And even more so when he started raving about this totally brilliant social media blackout idea. “What do I think?” she began with a scoff. “I think I’m fired, take my job!” She laughed, pretending to slough all of her nonexistent work attire into him. “But really, that’s completely brilliant. Would this be before the battle or after? Or — ooh! In between weekends since there’s no way you guys are getting eliminated first?” She smirked. See? She could be charming without her powers.
Mack could feel Sunny’s excitement over his idea, and it made him feel super smart. He normally didn’t show this much emotion for anything, let alone a marketing idea for their band, but he was definitely riding a sugar high right now as evidenced by the wrappers that didn’t quite make it in laying next to the kitchen trash can. “In between weekends is perfect,” He confirmed, starting to pace back and forth as his mind raced. “We just need a venue, and I guess we can use whatever merch we don’t sell the first weekend of Battle of the Bands. I have to get with Gerti for a set list...maybe some unreleased songs we aren’t doing at either weekend? Shit, I guess I have to text her.” He started to feel around in his pockets for his phone, coming up empty handed. “I guess I left it somewhere,” He mumbled, looking around the foyer, not seeing it. “Let me check my room. Make yourself at home.” He held up a finger signaling Sunny to give him a minute before turning to go search for his phone in his room.
Sunny could feel the vibes going on between them. Maybe she was wrong and he had just eaten too many candy bars or whatever, but her fingertips tingled and her cheeks were flushed and he seemed happier in her presence now than he ever had before...That had to have been a sign. But then he mentioned Gerti and she wished that just once her friend wouldn’t come up. Sunny rolled her eyes subtly, and started discreetly humming her incantation. “You don’t need to get your phone,” she said nonchalantly. “Stay here, we can work through a set list.” She sat on the couch and patted the seat next to her. “So obviously, Rocket Launcher. It’s a crowd favorite. Which ones aren’t you guys doing for either weekend?” Okay, so maybe she wasn’t using her powers for active ‘good’ right now, but it also wasn’t actively bad. Right?
Mack: Mack was just about to reach his bedroom door when he stopped, feeling almost like he’d forgotten what he was about to do. He stared into his doorway for a moment, confused, before turning around and joining Sunny on the couch. “I guess I’ll just tell her later,” He mumbled, shaking his head to try and clear whatever fog he was experiencing. Crash from the sugar high maybe? He sat next to Sunny, leaning back and draping an arm across the back of the couch. He nodded, “Yeah, totally. We can probably close with that one.” He thought through all the songs he and Gerti had written, trying to come up with some more obscure ones. “We’ve never played TV Lights anywhere, or Pea Soup. I don’t think we’re playing them at the competition either. Oh, there’s also...” He trailed off, instantly regretting bringing up the song he was currently in the middle of writing. “Never mind, it’s still a work in progress. I haven’t actually played it for anyone yet so I don’t think we could do it for either thing.” He brushed it off, turning away from Sunny to reach for a hidden Laffy Taffy in his book bag sitting on the floor. “Can you think of anything else?” He asked, popping it in his mouth.
Sunny tried to seem as normal as possible as Mack bent to her will. She had to admit that, while it was super shady of her to be purposefully excluding her BFF from this, she’d missed getting to charm people like this. And this was harmless! Just making sure that she and Mack got some alone time, was all. “Yeah, Pea Soup isn’t really competition material but super fun for a secret venue,” she agreed as she noticed Mack start to mention a song and then brush it off. “Wait, there’s something I haven’t heard?” She grinned widely and placed a throw pillow in her lap, getting as cozy as possible. “Play it for me! I can judge. Besides, Gerti’s a super fast learner.” She tugged at her earlobe and hummed, hoping he didn’t notice the faint glow in her hair as her powers came into effect.
Mack instantly regretted bringing the new song he was working on up. It was nowhere near ready, and honestly, he was probably going to just embarrass himself by playing it but he’d thrown it out there and now he felt compelled to play it for her. He looked like he was debating for a moment, then finally got up to grab his guitar. He threw the strap over his shoulder and took one last look at Sunny as if to apologize in advance to her then started playing. It was a simple melody, nothing fancy, just melodic enough to be pleasing to the ear with a few flats and sharps thrown in for fun. He started singing as softly as he could, fully aware of the intimacy performing for one person brought. The lyrics, half finished at some points, were about an idyllic relationship Mack didn’t have but figured he might one day so it was fine to write about it prematurely. As he came to a close, he played one last chord then stopped the strings with his hand quickly. He avoided eye contact with Sunny as he removed his guitar from his body and set it down. “Like I said it’s not done, but there it is,” He said, dancing around the question of what she thought of it.
Sunny watched him get into the groove of his song, and watching Mack be so cute and nervous combined with the sweetness of the lyrics...well, if she hadn’t been 100% sure about her crush already, that would’ve solidified it. She caught her bottom lip between her teeth until he finished, and when he finally put the guitar away, she couldn’t help but give a small round of applause. “Wow,” Sunny breathed, “Whoever that is about is such a lucky girl.” She shrugged, not necessarily wanting to charm him into telling her lies or anything. That was kind of where she drew the line. Though, there were some lines in that song that made her wonder. “Was it about anyone...or anything in particular?” she asked genuinely.
Mack reached for another hidden candy and chewed on it nervously. What was he supposed to tell Sunny? He just made up lyrics about something, or someone, that didn't exist? That would be the lamest shit ever, so he thought of a way to evade the truth without telling an outright lie, "It's just some girl. We're not super close or anything, but that's how I imagine it would be if we were. She doesn't know, though and I'm not planning on it getting out anytime soon, but she's cool. Cooler than previously thought." Okay - Mack thought - this was spiraling. Thinking it better to quit while he was ahead, he shut up. Peeking one last look at Sunny to see if she bought it before picking up his notebook to jot down some notes for the secret event planning.
Sunny cocked a brow. Not to claim that the guy she liked was a total loser or anything, but he did only know two girls that weren’t his sister or her friends. So unless Mack was secretly coveting a Fierce Five girl, the only two options were herself and Gerti. But he was being so vague that it almost sounded like a lie. Sunny felt her heartbeat quicken. He was totally talking about her. “Well, she’d be pretty dumb to not fall completely head over heels for you,” Sunny shrugged, trying not to come on too strong before she made her move. “What if she felt the same way? What would you do?” She hummed her incantation under her breath, just to take the tension out of the air so he wouldn’t let his nerves get in the way. Nothing major or anything, just a little something to keep everyone in the room...honest.
Mack swallowed his candy a little too early, halfway choking on it as it went down his throat. This conversation was getting a little too friendly for him, to say the least. He was about to tell Sunny to just drop it when his nervousness suddenly faded. Why had he been so scared before? He felt like he could tell Sunny anything, maybe even more so than he did with Gerti or his own sister. “I don’t know,” He answered honestly, “I’ve never really been in that position. Before this band I don’t think anyone really considered me to be the ‘Hot Boy’,” He laughed, “I know one thing for sure, though. I would not take her home to meet my mother. We all saw how that went for Molly and Ned.” He ran a hand through his hair, thinking some more. “Other than that? I guess write more songs about her.”
Sunny cocked a brow as Mack rambled on. Weird to compare her to Ned since she was royal, but she shrugged it off. She’d ask questions later. “Before this band, I definitely considered you the ‘Hot Boy’,” she admitted with a shrug as she moved in closer to him. “But hey — “ Sunny clutched Mack by the collar and pulled him in for the most long-anticipated kiss of her life. Wow, this was really happening! She did it. She got the guy — and this is why she should have always been able to use these powers, Mom. She pulled away and ran her tongue over her lips. “There’s something you can write a song about. You’re welcome.”
Mack was shocked when Sunny admitted she'd found him hot. He didn't think they were at THAT level of friendship yet. He could've said it back, it wasn't like Sunny was ugly or anything, but before he even had the chance to accept the compliment Sunny's lips were on his. He didn'y even fully register what was happening until she pulled away, presuming that he should be thanking her. He stared at her for a minute, trying to figure out what to say. "Um, what?" He asked incredulously. "What?" He repeated, standing up and running a hand through his hair. "What?!" He repeated once more for emphasis, turning to face her. "What just happened?" He was trying to wrap his head around the fact that Sunny had just kissed him, but it wasn't working. "Why did you just do that?"
Sunny had expected some level of shock from Mack. After all, she had just taken initiative and made both of their dreams come true. That had to be surprising. But what she didn't expect was the amount of terror in his expression. Oh no. Rather than talk this through or answer any of his questions or even face the possibility that she'd read his signs wrong, she hummed -- hurriedly, maybe the fastest she'd ever hummed before. Her tresses glowed, and she looked Mack in the eyes. "You're okay. It's alright, we can talk about this some other time," she nodded to him, praying that he nodded back. Sometimes when she was nervous, her persuasion faltered a bit, but she needed it to work right this second. It would've been so easy to make him believe he'd enjoyed the kiss, but that was just so slimy. She couldn't bring herself to do it. She just needed to go. "I'll go now, and we can talk about this later." She gulped, clutching her coat to her chest. "I had a really nice time though." Sunny plastered on a grin, and very selfishly, she clutched Mack's shoulder and placed one last, chaste kiss on his cheek. She had to savor this while she could, before the consequences of her actions caught up to her. "I'll see you at the competition -- if it happens," she shrugged as she ducked out of the cottage to catch her breath. Shit. If she hadn't been the girl he was talking about, then who was it? No time to think about that. She had to start brainstorming damage control.
