Summary: Bucky and Y/n have been friends for over ten years, since high school. Nothing has ever happened between them until one lonely night a few years ago. That one night left them with a little surprise. They agreed to raise their child together as friends. “Nervous?” Clark asks Y/n, who was sat to his left in the backseat of a cab on their way to the Halloween party.

“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” She tried to joke.

Truth be told Y/n was beyond nervous. She hadn’t brought someone to introduce to the group since before she got pregnant. Whenever she would her friends always found something negative about the guy. Even the smallest thing like they didn’t like the cologne he wore.

Y/n didn’t want them doing that to Clark. Tearing him apart for no reason. She really liked him and didn’t want her friends ruining it. Which is why she’s kept it hidden for the last month.

Loki and Pietro did tell her that they told everyone to be on their best behavior, so she’s hoping everyone listens.

“I’m excited to meet your friends,” Clark smiles, adjusting his cowboy hat on the top of his head. He and Y/n decided to dress up as Woody and Bo Peep, “From what you’ve told me they seem like really great people.”

“They are. They’re some of the best people I know,” she half smiles.

“Then I can’t wait to meet them,” he smiles, grabbing her right hand and placing a kiss on it.

Y/n smiled feeling the butterflies in her stomach and her cheeks heating up.

The taxi pulled up to Loki and Pietro’s house. You could hear the loud music playing from inside the house, and there were a few people smoking out front.

Perfect, she thought. The party was in full swing. Y/n had purposefully arrived an hour later, knowing more people would be around.

Clark paid the taxi driver before helping Y/n out of the cab. He placed her hand on his bicep, escorting her to the front door.

As they walked up Y/n noticed people staring and whispering. She then realized it was because of Clark. It always slipped her mind that he was ‘famous’. He had made a big name for himself in the sports world, and once the world caught wind of his good looks it amplified his audience outside of the sports world. He was recently named New York’s Most Eligible Bachelor. If she were speaking the truth, Y/n had no idea who he was when they met at the bar. She just knew he was a gentleman, an incredibly good looking gentleman.

Clark liked that Y/n had no idea who he was. The past year made it difficult for him to find someone who liked him, and not because he was “New York’s Most Eligible Bachelor,” a title he didn’t want, but because his boss made him do the shoot as press for the newspaper and media site. When he saw Y/n at the bar he was instantly mesmerized by her. After their first date, he knew that he needed to continue seeing her. He liked being around her, she brought such a fun, free energy into his life. He could tell she was hesitant when telling him she was a mother, that she was afraid he would just end things. But he found it incredible that she was a mother, and had her own thriving business. He loved that about her.

Clark loved Y/n. He knew it was too soon to say those words to her. He didn’t want to pressure her into saying it back just because he felt that way. He knew about her reservations. He knew that her daughter was her number one priority, and he wouldn’t want to do anything to disturb that. He respected her too much to put any unnecessary pressure on her. Even if it meant sitting on his feelings for a while. He’d do it. He’d wait.

“Here goes nothing,” Y/n said aloud before opening the front door.

“So when is Y/n coming with her new boy toy?” Sam asked the group as they grabbed some drinks from the bar.

“No clue,” Natasha answered, “She hasn’t messaged us, but I’m sure she’ll be here soon.”

Yelena gasped loudly.

“What are you okay?” Bucky panicked, turning to her.

“Y/n is dating Clark Kent,” she said, pointing to where the couple had entered the room.

“Surprise. Surprise. Surprise,” Loki smirked.

“Did you know?” Steve asked Wanda.

“Yup. We were there when they first met,” she smirked, taking a sip of her drink.

“They’re walking over. Everyone be nice,” Carol warns everyone.

“Hi everyone,” Y/n awkwardly waves.

“Hi! You guys look cute,” Natasha complimented.

“Thanks,” Y/n cleared her throat, “Everyone this is Clark. Clark this is everyone.”

“Hi,” he smiled, shaking everyone’s hands and getting their names.

“Thank you for extending the invite,” he thanked Loki and Pietro.

“Of course. We were very curious to meet the man who has been making our Y/n so happy,” Pietro said.

“Shit, I spilled wine on my costume,” Valkyrie spoke out, “Can you girls help?”

“Will you be okay?” Y/n asked Clark, not really wanting to leave him alone.

“Go, I’ll be fine. I’ll grab you a drink,” he says, and the women leave, minus Yelena who stayed by Bucky’s side.

“So, the Clark Kent. Gotta say your last piece on the Yankees, really broke my heart,” Sam playfully said.

“Oh sorry man,” he went along with it, clasping Sam’s velvety pink shoulder.

“Do you really think they don’t have a chance this year?”

“Not if they don’t get their defense figured out,” Clark said, taking a step forward to the bar, to order a drink for him and Y/n.

The men started falling into a conversation about sports, while Bucky remained silent. He was silently sizing up Clark. He had never seen a man so large before. He couldn’t help but feel intimidated just by being in his presence. He also had a hard time picturing how Y/n ended up with someone like Clark Kent. She had always gone for the artsy type. The jock type was never her thing. She never understood why women would throw themselves at a man just because he was so “muscley”. He had heard the same spiel throughout their entire friendship.

“Bucky, right?” Clarks asks, cutting Bucky’s thoughts.

“Yeah, hi Clark,” he politely said, shaking the man’s hand.

“It’s really nice to meet you. Y/n has told me so much about you.”

“She has?”

“Yeah. She really thinks highly of you,” Clark said. Yelena scoffed at that, causing both men to glance over at her, as she looked away taking a sip from her drink.

“I think your relationship is really special,” Clark continued, ignoring Yelena, “Raising a child is a really special thing.”

“Wow. Um thanks,” Bucky was taken back by Clark’s comments.

“I just want you to know that I respect the relationship you and Y/n have, and I would never want to do anything to cause harm to it,” Clark sincerely tells him, “I just wanted to tell you that, because I really like Y/n, but I know your relationship comes first. That raising your daughter will always come first. I’m just here for as long as Y/n will take me.”

Bucky was completely taken back by Clark’s words. Part of him had already shut down the idea of liking him the moment he heard Y/n was bringing a date. But after all that he’s not sure that’s even possible. Clark was a likable guy, and he couldn’t deny that.

“Thanks Clark, I really appreciate that,” Bucky smiles, nodding his head.

“Everything going okay?” Y/n asks as she walks up to Clark and Bucky.

“Yeah,” Clark smiles, handing Y/n her drink. She looks over at Bucky, waiting for his answer.

The group went silent waiting for Bucky’s response.

“Might want to hold onto this one,” Bucky smiled, “Cause if you don’t, Sam here looks like he’s about to steal him from you.”

The whole group instantly relaxed at Bucky’s joke, laughing along.

“Thank-you,” Y/n mouthed to Bucky. He nodded his head and lifted his drink up, silenting giving her his approval.

It’s not like Y/n needed Bucky’s approval, but having it just made everything way more easier.

The whole night went off without a hitch. The group partied amongst themselves and the rest of the party goers. Even Yelena was on their good side, she seemed to be actually enjoying herself. There was even a moment where Nat suggested they have a sister sleepover soon, it might’ve been the alcohol flowing through her blood but hey it was better than being hostile towards each other.

At the end of the night, Clark and Y/n got into a cab heading to his place for the rest of the night.

“Have a good time?” He asked her as she laid her head on his shoulder, as the cab drove off.

“Very,” she smiled with her eyes closed, “Thank-you again for coming with me tonight.”

“Of course,” he kissed the top of her head.

“Did you have a good time?” She asked, staying in her spot.

“Yes, I did,” he tells her, “Your friends are good people.”

“Yeah, they are.”

“Can I ask one thing though?”

“Yeah, of course,” she said, lifting her head from his shoulder to look at his face.

“Yelena is with Bucky right? How long have they been together?” He asked, the question taking Y/n by complete surprise, causing her to sit up.

“I think 7 months now. I’ve only known for about a month though,” she tells him.

“Okay,” he nodded, pondering if he should tell her the information he knows.

“Why do you ask?”

“So I kind of know Yelena,” he says.

“What do you mean?” She felt herself stiffen up.

“Not like that,” he quickly assured her, “I meant she hopped into my dms a few months ago, asking to go on a date.”

“Oh,” Y/n said, unsure of how to respond to that.

“I turned her down,” he says, “No offense to her, but I know girls like that. Only wanting a date with me for their social media likes. Most girls take the no and leave it be, but there have been girls who don’t take the rejection too seriously.”

“What do you mean?” Y/n asked.

“Can I just say, I just want to be 100% honest with you, I don’t want any secrets,” he tells her, “I wouldn’t necessarily classify this as a secret, but still.”

“Yeah, I completely agree,” she nodded her head, “No secrets.”

“Okay then,” he continued, “well after I told Yelena that I wasn’t interested, I got the feeling she wasn’t used to being told no. She was very persistent, she kept messaging me, and I just had to keep telling her that I had no interest. In hindsight I should’ve just ignored her, because I think by replying to her she took it as a challenge

“So then she started to send me pictures,” he strained.

“Pictures?”

“Yeah, pictures that really didn’t leave much to the imagination,” he uncomfortably says.

“Geez,” Y/n said, taken back by what she was hearing.

“Yeah, you’re telling me,” he said, “I hadn’t been on my instagram for a couple of days and to my surprise, there were about 10 unwanted pictures sitting in my private messages. I then had to tell her that what she had done was completely inappropriate and that I wasn’t interested, and would never be interested. I blocked her right after I sent that message, not wanting to deal with that for any longer.”

“God, that’s horrible,” Y/n sympathized with Clark, having to deal with all that mess and harassment from Yelena.

“I’m used to it unfortunately,” he said.

“Shouldn’t have to,” she rubbed his arm.

“It is what it is,” he says, “This was the main reason why I told Wayne I didn’t want to do that dumb New York’s most eligible bachelor photoshoot.”

“Can I ask, when she had sent those messages?”

“I remember being in London at the time so it was this summer,” he tells her.

“This summer?” She clarified.

“Yeah, that’s why I asked how long they had been together,” he said.

“Are you sure it was this summer?” She asked, wanting to be sure.

“Yeah,” he nodded, “I remember clearly because she had asked if I was enjoying London and that she would love to take me out and show me the town because she was from there.”

“Shit,” y/n whispered, realizing the extent of what Clark was telling her.

She knew he’d have no reason to lie about something like this, and just based on what she saw from Yelena, she wouldn’t doubt that she wouldn’t do that. If she was messaging Clark while with Bucky, she probably is messaging other people as well.

Y/n knew that she would have to tell Bucky this brand new information. She just wasn’t sure how he’d take it.

*Later that Day*

Y/n decided to pay Natasha a visit later in the day. She brought a bag of hangover goodies.

She rang the doorbell and waited for an answer.

“Oh hey Y/n!” Sam greeted opening the door and letting her in, “Wasn’t expecting you today.”

“Thought I’d pay Nat a surprise visit with some goodies,” she says holding up the bag.

“She’s in the living room,” he says, “I’m heading to the gym.”

“Bye,” she waves as she exits the door.

She walks into the living room where Nat was laid across the couch underneath a blanket, watching the Food Network.

“Hey Nat,” Y/n quietly said walking over to the couch to sit down.

“Y/n, what brings you here?” Nat sat up as Y/n walked into the room.

“Snacks and I wanted to check on you,” she said handing Nat the bag of snacks.

“Oh my gosh, you’re a lifesaver. Thank-you,” Nat said grabbing the bag of goodies.

“Is Sam still mad?”

“A bit,” she rolled her eyes, “He’ll be fine once he gets back from the gym.”

“How are you feeling? She asks scooting closer to Nat, getting under the blanket to get comfortable.

“Better than this morning, probably shouldn’t drink like that again.”

“At least until Val’s and Carol’s bachelorette party,” Y/n jokes.

“At least I won’t be the only one,” she laughs opening up the Gatorade.

“Nat,” she softly says after a few moments of silence.

“Yeah?” Nat says looking over at Y/n.

“I need you to be honest with me. Should I be concerned about your sister?” She asks, “After seeing the way you’re taking all of this, especially after last night. I just need to make sure Bucky isn’t bringing a horrible person around our daughter. I mean your her sister and if you’re acting like this, maybe I need to have a more serious talk with Bucky.”

Nat let out a deep breath through her nose wondering how she can properly explain her feelings.

“Listen Y/n, I shouldn’t be letting my personal feelings get in the middle of what’s going with you and Bucky,” Nat says,” You guys are raising this wonderful child together, and I shouldn’t be creating more drama”

“But I respect your opinion Nat. You’re taking this way harder than I am.”

“My relationship with Yelena is complicated,” Nat explained, “I didn’t really grow up with her. She lived with our dad, and her mom, while I was raised by my mom. I never really told anyone this aside from Sam, but my father left my mother for Yelena’s. He completely abandoned us. He’d send the occasional gift here and there. He never helped my mom financially, she had to work two jobs. It wasn’t until I was in my senior year of high school that he made a reappearance and truth be told I only accepted him back into my life because I knew my mother wouldn’t have been able to help with college. So my father and I struck a deal, he pays for my schooling and I come around a few times a year. They had already moved to London at that point.

“By the time I officially started hangin around Yelena, it was too late. She was already a pre-teen. A spoiled one at that. I couldn’t help but feel jealous and resented towards her. She never had to struggle. Her parents gave her everything she could ever wanted. She’s never had to work for anything. She still doesn’t. It’s not that I think Yelena is an evil person. I just don’t think she’s mature enough to for all this. She doesn’t know the first thing about being a. Selfless person. And admittedly, I hate that she’s snaking her way into our group. You guys are my friends. My family. She already got my dad. The last thing I need is for her to take my friends.”

“She’s not going to take us Nat,” Y/n comfortingly said, “We’re not going anywhere. There’s no replacing you in our lives. No one would allow that. I won’t allow that. We’re all stuck with each other for life. No one can ruin that.”

“She can,” Nat mumbled, her eyes tearing up.

“You need to have this conversation with Bucky,” Y/n says, rubbing her back, “Let him know how you feel and why. He’d understand Nat. This is Bucky we’re talking about, he wouldn’t intentionally hurt anyone. He wouldn’t alienate you, just because Yelena tells him to. This is the same guy who threatened to kill Sam if he hurt you when you guys got together. This is the same man who walked you down the aisle after your dad got stuck because of a storm. He’s not going to let anyone get in the way of your relationship.”

“I guess that’s part of the reason why I’m taking this so hard,” she says wiping her eyes, “because he felt like he couldn’t tell me he was with her. It just feels like a betrayal.”

“Talk to him,” she pats Nat’s hand.

“Okay I will,” Nat agrees nodding her head.

The girls spent the rest of the night watching movies and eating takeout.
