To gain the whole world but forfeit their soul?
Then someone [heis] came to him and said, ‘Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal [aionion] life [zoen]?’ And he said to him, ‘Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one [heis] who is good. If you wish [theleis] to enter into life [zoen], keep [tereson] the commandments.’ . . .
Jesus said to him, ‘If you wish [theleis] to be perfect [teleios], go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure [thesauron] in heaven [en ouranois]; then come, follow [akolouthei] me.’ When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, for he had many [polla] possessions.
- Matthew 19:16-17, 21-22 NRSVA (1995)
Then Jesus told his disciples [mathetais], ‘If any [tis] want [thelei] to become my followers [opiso mou elthein], let them deny themselves and take up their cross [stauron] and follow [akoloutheito] me. For those who want [thele] to save their life [psychen] will lose it, and those who lose their life [psychen] for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole [holon] world but forfeit their life [psychen]? Or what will they give in return for their life [psyches]?’

Studying Romans Chapter 2 and came across this amazing word
“There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality” Romans 2:9-10
So one version says “upon every soul of man that doeth evil” and I thought the soul part was interesting so I went to the handy dandy Bible Hub to check out the Greek.
Tumblr media
(So psychēn is used 41 other times in the bible but other variations are used as well.)
So I followed the rabbit trail to the Strong’s Concordance and got this.
Tumblr media
And isn’t that just so beautiful!
Free will and individuality and singular importance to God is right there, with every breath we breath and with every thought we have.
Praise God for everything He does for us, and His never ending Grace!
I also did a quick study of the word kindness that I still have to organize my thoughts on but wow that one was a cool change in perspective as well! I love digging into the Hebrew and Greek.

Meditation and Solitude P1,2 | Tim Mackie [Psalm 1:2]
Meditate has taken on so many various distinctions with other religions I’m very grateful for a detailed summary of the word as it appears in the Bible.
Personally meditating on Scripture is something I haven’t done a good job of in my life. I tend to be very busy and scattered.
I’m really going to take this practice and implement it into my life and I’m excited for what it will bring.
Why don’t you join us as we make a pact to daily take time to meditate on GOD‘s Word, put off distractions, even learning, to let the SPIRIT work through us.

In Their Hands
we do have angels who are in charge of our lives. They watch over us and keep us “in their hands”.
This little phrase is found in several places in the Bible. One of my favorite Bible study methods is word studies. Psalm 91 took me to this phrase. I’m trying to memorize the whole chapter. I’ve been successful to memorize two verses at a time. Now the challenge is to be able to say the WHOLE chapter! Maybe I’m too old, but with old age comes time. After caring for my mom 24/7 and intensely…

on a real note that bit near the end of the video was genuinely haunting. hearing somerton talk about how gay writers are erased from history was one thing (with all the irony being that he stepped on the backs of numerous underpaid, underprivileged and uncredited queer writers to build his youtube channel) but when h revealed it wasn't even somerton's quote in the first place? the worst, most crushing sort of irony. how do you lament about the erasure of gay people and gay writers in history... whilst erasing a gay writer and taking his words as your own?

this is by no means comprehensive, as this app has a skewed demographic to begin with, but I'm just trying to decide on whether this is a worthwhile topic for the women and gender studies project I'm doing.
