“Were you looking for me?”
Some she/her reader/prefect x Jamil short fic...
Tumblr media
The prefect and Grim had gone to accompany Deuce to the basketball court, in order to look for Ace. Deuce had finished with his club early, and was looking forward to getting some rest before dinner time. That's why he called his two friends, and also hoped to have Ace with them.
Upon arrival, Ace seemed to have finished showering and was totally ready to leave. When he saw them, the boy raised his hand, although what he said did not accompany the gesture.
"You wanted to see me in action, huh?" he said, smiling mischievously. "A shame, because I'm done for today."
"...The three of us should've left without him" Grim concluded in response, looking at the girl and Deuce, who nodded at the answer.
Ace frowned.
"Hey, don't ignore me!"
"AH! If it's Koebi-chan! ~"
A voice from further away interrupted Ace. It was Floyd, who was still half wet from the water from the shower, but luckily he was dressed. He had a huge smile on his face.
"Umihebi-kun, come, come!" he said, approaching them but looking back.
Everyone was a little confused by that call, but then they saw that Jamil was walking behind him, with wet hair, at a slow pace. The prefect looked out and could see how Jamil was putting up his hair with both hands while he held a scrunchie with his mouth. Once he tied his ponytail, he looked forward. She looked away, her heart trembling a little. Two seconds later, he also arrived where they were.
"Oh, hey. You're a little late to watch, training is already over" Jamil said to the group.
"We came to look for Ace" Deuce clarified. "Thanks for... putting up with him, at the club."
Deuce said that as he bowed, and his friends ended up doing the same. Ace was getting pissed again.
"Why does it seem like I'm your son?" he asked.
"Come on ~ Kani-chan is super fun. We had a great time with him, didn't we, Umihebi-kun?"
Floyd turned to Jamil, who ended up smiling a little, although not exactly sweetly.
"He's very easy to tease."
Everyone laughed except Ace, who ended up grabbing his backpack and starting to walk away alone. Deuce began to chase him along with Grim, and the prefect, before leaving, bowed again to the senpai.
"Er... good job. With the club, that is."
"Ah, Koebi-chan, you're so cute... it makes me want to hug you..." began to say Floyd, taking a step forward from her, ready to hug her. But then Jamil cut him off.
"Floyd" he said sharply. Then he looked from him to the girl, a smile in his face. "Thank you."
She looked into his eyes not knowing what to say. Jamil's gaze was deep and cold most of the time, but it didn't contain even a bit of malice. The girl then remembered Kalim. That boy was the complete opposite: his eyes denoted happiness at any moment. The only thing they both had in common was that with their gaze they were able to envelop you and not let go, like the sands of the desert.
After a few seconds, Floyd moved his hand in front of the girl's face.
"Is there anyone at home...?" he asked.
She composed herself immediately, and looked away from Jamil. She sure was red, so she turned around and started to leave.
"E-Eh... Well, see you."
"Come back soon, Koebi-chan! ~"
Floyd and Jamil stayed looking at her until she was quite far away from there, and Floyd then looked at Jamil out of the corner of his eye, with a little smile.
"Heh... Umihebi-kun, you sure are popular."
"Ha?"
"Have you used your power on her?" Floyd asked, curious. Even though the Unique Magic were a secret, due to everything that happened in Scarabia he already knew what it was about.
"What are you taking about? I haven't used it since... then" Jamil said.
"Eeeeh ~ I see... ~"
Floyd turned around and went to get his things. Jamil stayed, lost in his thoughts, watching the girl walk away from them.
The next day that club activities were scheduled, Deuce, the prefect and Grim went back to the basketball court to look for Ace. That day, however, they were caught in the middle of a training match. Ace tried to make his way, but Floyd, who was playing in the opposite team, blocked him whenever he had the opportunity. At one point he saw an opening and slid to the other side, but in the blink of an eye Jamil took the ball from him, ran to his basket and scored a point just before the whistle sounded announcing the end of the practice game. Ace gritted his teeth, though he and his teammates exchanged affectionate pats on the back and words of encouragement. Floyd gave Jamil a very simple high five. It was obvious that they were used to working as a team.
The prefect and Deuce applauded at the end of the match and that was when the three of them became aware of their presence. Floyd's eyes shone again.
"Koebi-chaaaan, you're back! ~" He ran up to her, but when he was going to give her a hug, he stopped himself. "Oops... sweat. I can't hug you"
The girl laughed a little and then she looked at Jamil, who was tying again his ponytail, since he had messed up his hair while playing. He immediately noticed her gaze, and she ended up quickly turning away from him.
Ace approached them, and began to speak very loudly.
"Aaaaah, we were so close to winning..." he said, pointing out how tired he was.
"I may be wrong, but it says on that scoreboard that you've been beaten, Ace," Grim pointed out.
Indeed, the score marked a difference of at least 20 points between one team and the other. Ace growled and when he reached Grim's side he kicked him.
"Stealing the ball from you was very easy. You have to improve your technique, Ace” Jamil said, who had arrived next to them.
"Yes, Jamil-senpai..."
"Well, to the shower! ~" Floyd looked excited and began to leave after waving goodbye to the others.
Ace shook his head and looked at his three friends.
"I'll be back in a few minutes, okay?"
"Don't be late" Deuce asked.
"Mimimi, I'll do what I can..."
After watching him leave, Deuce also stood up.
"I think I'm going to go get something to snack on while Ace arrives, because I think that shower's going to take a while... Do any of you want something?"
"Ah, some chips for me, please!" The girl asked, with a smile.
Grim stood up as well.
"I'm going with you Deuce. You wait for us here, huh?" He said, looking at the girl. She nodded. Ace was a mystery, sometimes he finished early and sometimes too late, but the best thing was for someone to stay waiting for him.
When the two boys left, she sighed, and looked at the empty basketball court. Although... Now that she thought about it, she had seen Ace and Floyd leave, but not Jamil. She had lost sight of him for a second and she no longer saw him. Would he have gone ahead to the showers...?
She craned her neck to look at the side of the gym, somewhat hidden, when...
"Are you looking for someone?"
A voice sounded too close to her, and the girl jumped up, so suddenly that she almost tripped. However, a strong arm grabbed her and pulled her towards her seat before any unfortunate fall occurred. The girl, who had closed her eyes in shock, opened them again, finding the boy with dark skin and dark eyes whom she had, in fact, been looking for.
"J-Jamil... Thank you very much..."
"No problem."
Jamil kept his gaze and jumped from the seat he was sitting in, over hers, to the one right next to her, without letting go her hand. She was tremendously embarrassed by the ridiculousness she had made. And in front of Jamil, no less.
"...If I let you go you won't try to jump, right?"
"Ah? N-No! L-Let go of me, no problem..."
Despite his joking tone, the boy seemed genuinely worried that he had scared her and almost caused an accident, but seeing her out of danger he finally decided to let go of her hand.
Although he didn't look away from her.
"... So? Were you looking for me?
The girl was speechless with that question. She couldn't even look at him at that moment... But Jamil was making it difficult for her. There was something about him that attracted her, very much. It was impossible to ignore him...
Her eyes rolled to his, slowly, and she saw how he watched her carefully, while she smiled sideways, mischievously, as if that situation amused him. She could swear her face was closer than before, and closer than he had ever been to her.
"...Yes, I was wondering where you were" she said, to the boy's surprise. But she no longer had any reason to hide it, if Jamil had said that it was because he had clearly caught her.
Jamil seemed to be amused by how she had confessed, and he raised an eyebrow as his smile deepened.
"... You are really interesting."
She held on for a few more seconds, but soon she suddenly stood up again, this time stiff as a rock.
"I-I forgot to tell Deuce something! I'm going to look for them."
Jamil leaned his back against the backrest while he watched the girl pick up her backpack, bow with her head —without looking at him— and run out of the place, following in the footsteps of her friends minutes before. He stared at her until she disappeared from his sight, and then he couldn't help but smile more than he should.
He got up, ready to go to the showers. Maybe he had to ask Ace a couple of things.

*Mama Spade accidentally bumped into Silver’s dad*
Mama Spade: “Ah!! Oh I’m so sorry! I’m trying to find my son but I think I got lost…”
Tumblr media
*cracks knuckles* Our time has come, boiz 😎 (For anyone wondering why Lilia’s eyes are redacted, see this fic!) Figured we needed something more light-hearted after being rushed at by the semi-truck that was the recent main story update~
I briefly mention Mr. Spade, but I kept it vague since we don’t have the details on what happened to him yet!
Please note: I received multiple other Lilia + Mama Spade interaction requests; however, because those other requests are more specific than asking them to meet, I will be writing separate responses for each of those. I don't want to overload the blog with a ton of Lilia + Mama Spade content at once, so they will be spread out between other NRC Family Day interactions ^^
Family means Nobody is Left Behind or Forgotten.
Tumblr media
"Think nothing of it, miss." The man brushed off the bump with ease and an understanding smile. "It happens. Water under the bridge, yes?"
His voice was as smooth as a sky cleared of clouds, as sultry as midnight desires. There was a resonance to it as well, as though his words were reverberating in the annals of ancient ruins, echoing legends and legacies long since forgotten by history.
He was small yet snazzy in a black vest and dress pants embellished with golden stitching, a fancy jacket set in a dark hue of green hanging off of his shoulders. The man's long, dark hair was done up in a high ponytail, choppy and uneven bangs falling freely around his face.
If his voice was a mystery yet to be unearthed, then the man, too, was one. The exact composition of his face, and how his features were arranged, eluded her. But even with her aging sight, she could tell that he was strikingly handsome—lashes so long they batted his cheeks when he blinked, eyes like ever-shifting gemstones, and a pert, mischievous mouth.
"Oh dear." Mrs. Spade nervously fanned herself with a hand. "I'm hardly a 'miss'! I’m no spring chicken."
"After a certain point, we realize that time is something we cannot combat.” He coiled fingers against his lips. “I believe you've aged quite gracefully.”
A simple shoulder-length bob cut and homely, practicel clothing—those were the staples of her style as a single mother. She had her family to look after, and little time or energy to dress up. Yet Mrs. Spade flustered all the same.
“I-I don’t know what to say…”
The man laughed. “Apologies for steering us off-topic. Back on track, then. You said you were looking for your son?”
“Y-Yes…!” Mrs. Spade quickly rebounded, her worries returning. “He told me to meet him in Heartslabyul, but I’ve been wandering the campus for a while and haven’t passed any buildings by that name.”
The man stroked his chin. “If it’s Heartslabyul you’re looking for, you’ll need the Hall of Mirrors. It has mirror portals to each of the seven dormitories.”
“Mirror portals, imagine that!!” Shock was written all over her. "We don't have a lot of those back home.”
“Mirror portals are not always commonly accessible.” His mouth turned mirthful. “I just so happen to be heading to the Hall of Mirrors myself. My son’s waiting for me in another dorm. Seeing as we're both going to the same place, I wouldn’t mind escorting you.”
“You would?! You don’t mind…?”
“If you would have me,” he replied, his tone teasing. The man bowed melodramatically, arms gesturing down a path. “Then right this way.”
Mrs. Spade barely had any time to react before he started walking away. She hurried after him, trailing behind by a few paces. Careful not to get too close, to risk colliding with him again.
“Which dorm is your son in?” she blurted out, breathless. Not from exhaustion, but in excitement.
He cut her a sideways glance, his eyes glittering. "That would be Diasomnia. He’s a second year now, and a diligent member of the Equestrian Club."
Mrs. Spade quickened her pace. "He's an athlete? So is my Deuce. He's still a first year trying to find his footing, but he’s grown a lot in his first few months at school.”
"Deuce." He said the name oddly, almost like he had had practice reciting it. "How would you describe him?"
"He's a lot of things," Mrs. Spade confessed. She spoke unabashedly, as straight as an arrow carving an arc in the air. "He's not all that sharp, and he can be brash—but he’s also strong and kind, stubborn too. A really serious and straightforward person that means well and tries his best.”
“From the looks of it, he’s a good kid. His hard work will surely see him well in the future.”
She flushed with pride, pink as a peach. “What about your son? What’s he like?”
"Silver? He has a habit of dozing off, but he's as earnest as they come. It's that honesty of his that has made him so many friends. Even the local wildlife can't seem to keep themselves away from him.
“He’s the peacekeeper of any group he’s in, that lad. I’m so pleased that he’s able to connect with creatures from all walks of life.”
“Your Silver sounds like the kind of man Deuce would look up to. The sort of man he'd want to become."
“Does he?” The question was coy. “I think Silver would also enjoy Deuce’s company. Such a spirited, committed underclassman can keep him alert and on his toes.
“Silver already has a companion that fits that description, but I’m sure he wouldn’t mind one more. The more the merrier, I say.”
“Your family must be big.”
“Afraid not. It’s only myself and Silver. We have close friends and neighbors of course, but legally speaking…” He brought his index fingers together, making them touch. “… we are one guardian and one child.”
Mrs. Spade’s heart stilled. “You’re joking.”
“Far from it." The corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk. It was not unkind, but curious. “Have I said something funny?”
“No, I was just thinking that you and I have a lot in common.” She bit her lower lip. “Deuce has his grandma, but at home it’s us two. His dad, my husband, he…” Mrs. Spade faltered.
The man inclined his head. “… You needn’t say any more. Please, don’t push yourself. Not all tales must be told to the strangers you meet along the way.”
“Y-You’re right.” She furiously shook her head. “What am I doing, making this about myself? I… I’m sorry if this brought back any painful memories for you.”
“Me? My, whatever are you concerned about me for?" There was a warmth, a fatherly tenderness, to his eyes.
“Your wife,” Mrs. Spade said weakly, “she’s no longer with you.“
“My wife?” His smile twisted into something wry. “I have no such thing. Always been a bit of a lone bat myself, but thank you for considering me."
"Oh! I... I shouldn't have assumed."
"It is you who is distressed. I should be the one more aware of your feelings."
Mrs. Spade blinked rapidly. From surprise, or to shunt back tears, she wasn't sure. "I... No, you don't need to worry about me at all! I'm fine!"
To this, the man chuckled. "I can see where Deuce must get his character from. However, you mustn't let yourself be entangled with the past.
"The past is in the past. If we keep looking behind ourselves, we will miss what waits for us in our futures." He came to a full stop, sweeping his arms forward. "Ah, and here we are."
A building with a domed roof was erected before them, guarded by massive stone walls on either side. Its door was tall, cut in the shape of a crystal pillar. One glimpse inside, and they caught the sparkle of sunlight refracting off the faces of various mirrors.
"You see? The future is right before us. No sense in dwelling on what was, only what can be."
He tapped the bottom of her chin, closing the mouth that had been hanging ajar. "Come now, let's see a smile! I wouldn't want to reunite you with your son while you've still got a frown on your face. He'd whack me a good one!"
Mrs. Spade chortled in spite of herself. "Deuce just might. He has a sharp left hook."
"I believe it. Ah, but it looks like it won't come to that. Lucky me, you're smiling again."
"Am I?!" Her hands flew to her face. The corners of her mouth had turned up, and she hadn't even noticed.
"Yes, that's what I wanted to see." The man offered a gloved hand. "... May I?"
Mrs. Spade giggled, taking it as easily as one might slip into a song. When was the last time she had felt this coquettish? So girlish, so young.
The Hall of Mirrors welcomed the pair, opening into a circle of seven portals. Each mirror trumpeted its dorm's name and iconography in its elaborate frame.
The man dropped her hand and indicated a mirror with thorns snaking up its sides, a fierce dragon guarding it. "This is where we part ways."
Mrs. Spade glanced at her route: at the mirror lined with playing cards and roses. Two spears, their points heart-shaped, crossed at the apex, and an open storybook formed the steps to the portal. Heartslabyul—the domain of the Queen of Hearts.
“Thank you for your help. I couldn’t have made it here without you, kind sir.”
“My pleasure—I thank you for the company. I hope you enjoy Family Day with Deuce.”
“Same to you and Silver.”
He nodded and turned, presenting his back to her as he made his way to Diasomnia’s mirror. She yanked herself away and stormed in the opposite direction. Just as he reached the dragon’s snout at the foot of his, and she at the cusp of a new page in the story, a single word erupted.
“Wait!!” she called out.
He craned his head to regard her. “Yes?”
Mrs. Spade clutched her fists to her chest. “Will I… Will I get to see you again?”
The shock was very slight on him, tempered by his mirth. He was used to being the one surprising, not the one being surprised, and so perhaps the silence lasted a few seconds longer than he would have liked it to.
“I really liked talking with you! I thought maybe we could do it again, and maybe Deuce and Silver could meet too.”
He took the idea, lazily rolling it between his thumb and his forefinger, considering. The confusion, the chaos, it would sprout.
“It sounds interesting,” he said mysteriously, pairing it with a shrug, “Who knows? We just might.”
And then he was gone, devoured by the dragon. The only proof that he had once been there were the ripples in the face of the mirror… and Mrs. Spade, spellbound.
Tumblr media
The instant she stepped into Heartslabyul, she was struck with two things: the heavy, cloying aroma of red roses, and the warm body she collided with. Mrs. Spade stumbled back on the brick path. Her vision was still spinning when a familiar, rambunctious voice called out to her.
“… om! MOM!!” Deuce happily cried, wrapping his arms around her. “You made it!! I was worried that you didn’t show up on time—you’re usually not late. I was going to head out to look for you myself!”
“I’m okay, Deuce,” she reassured him with a playful tousle of his hair. “Don’t you mind me. I got a little lost, but I had some help from a kind man. Things worked out alright in the end.”
“That was nice of him! What a good samaritan!” He paused. “Er… You didn’t tell him about me in middle school, did you? I-I swear I’ve been working really hard to brush up and be an honors student!”
“Deuce!!” his mother gasped, smacking him on the side. (Dull pain reverberated in the area; she packed quite the punch.)
“What in Twisted Wonderland makes you think I’d go around parroting that around?! No, dear—I know you, and I know you’re trying your best. Besides, that man was nice!! He’d never intrude on our family matters.“ She sighed, stars in her eyes. “Ooh, and handsome too! So smart!! A real catch..”
“Uhhh…” Deuce made a face. “Are you… feeling okay, mom? Did you eat some of the weird mushrooms growing in the garden? Dorm leader Riddle says those can have weird effects.”
She didn’t seem to hear him. Mrs. Spade continued to prattle on, “He has a boy at NRC about your age, Deuce! We should arrange for us to all get together.”
“W-Wait, hold on a minute!! I’m happy that you made a new friend, but who are you talking about?!”
His mother startled, as if waking from a dream. “Now that you mention it, I forgot to ask for his name. I do remember that he talked about his son though. Silver, was it?”
“S-Silver-senpai?! Then… you’re talking about his DAD?!” Deuce was striken, his heart pounding unnaturally fast at the revelation. Silver’s dad is mom’s sweetheart now?!
“Oh, so you do know him after all!” Mrs. Spade clapped excitedly. “What do you think? Is he anywhere near as charming as his father i—”
“Grk…!” Deuce suddenly fell onto all fours, hanging his head. Tears streaked his face, and his entire body violently shook.
His mom practically shrieked and rushed to his side, frantically shaking him. “Deuce?! Deuce, honey? Are you okay?!”
He tried at a response, but only managed a semi-comprehensible wail. “I-I-I’m jusht shooo happy fa’ you, mooom,” Deuce sniffled, harshly wiping at his tears and snot. “Y-You found th’ perfect guyyy, just like you deserved all thish tiiime…!!”
“H-Hey now! I may have been a little swept off my feet by him, but I’m not marrying the guy!! No shotgun weddings here!! Wh-Who even marries a stranger they met in a day?!”
“R-Really?”
“Really.” She eased Deuce into her with a hug, her voice dropping into a whisper. “Pinkie promise.”
He tried to laugh, but choked on his own sobs instead. Mrs. Spade rubbed an open palm along his back, soothing him.
“Haha, I’m being silly.” She ran a hand along his scalp—a facsimile of the head pats she granted him in his youth. “I’m happy too—happy that you’re such a good kid, that you care for your mama’s happiness.”
“M-Mom… Mom!!” He wailed even louder and buried himself in her arms.
There, under a halcyon blue sky and tinted in roses, mother and son wept with one another. The past, far behind them. The future, yet to exist.

Deuce Spade x Reader (A Holiday of New Steps) Pt. 3
Tumblr media
Art is not mine!! Except the house layout. (It was rushed so its nothing fancy, just to help give the reader the idea of the layout.)
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 (You are here)
A little background about the MC in my story so you're not all too lost. The MC used to suffer from androphobia (A fear of men), that has to do with some past trauma That I might go into more detail about later on if I decide to continue this story. The MC is also a Orphan losing her father at four, then her mother at fourteen, so there will be mention of family. The MC spent all her time in foster care, due to her mother being an orphan herself and her fathers family disowning him.
Warning: suggestive situations, cursing, Maybe some angst (That's all I can think of right now).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The train came to a stop and Deuce made sure I was off the train first. I looked around to see the train dropped us off into a big city area. I looked around in awe. This was the first time I was in a city in this world, and like everything here, it looked normal yet different. Since this was a place representing the Queen of hearts there were still plenty of red, white, and black, yet still looking really modern.
“From here it's about a twenty minute walk to my home.” Deuce said, looking around to make sure we had all of our stuff. I nodded.
“Okay.” I confirmed. He smiled as he reached for my hand, intertwining our fingers as he started to guide me towards his home.
The area was not what I was expecting. I was expecting a really run down area, like in movies. It was a residential area that seemed really nice, lots of children playing, no bar windows. The way Deuced talked I assumed he had come from a really rough area and I would have to be on my guard the whole time. It was an odd area for a delinquent to have grown up at.
I felt his hand tighten around mine. I looked over at him to see him smiling at me. He tilted his head.
“Are you okay?” He asked. I nodded.
“Yes, your neighborhood is just really nice.” I complimented. He blushed a little, smile going wider. It was almost like he was walking on sunshine and rainbows. I let a little giggle leave my lips as I leaned into his side a bit more, taking some of his body heat. We came to a halt in front of a cute house it wasnt something big or extravagant, but it had a nice and warm charm to it.
“This is my home.” Deuce presented. I smiled at his proud statement. It was such a humble home, something I hadn't had for many, many years. Closest thing to a home or safe place I have is Ramshackle.
 I started to think of times my father and mother would play outside with me, Mostly my father since my mother was still in college and my father had issues finding a job so he was a stay at home husband, cleaned, cooked, and took care of me. It changed when he passed away, though my mother had graduated with her Doctorate. We did move to an apartment complex when my father passed away at four, so I really don't remember the house itself.
(Picture below is the first floor layout)
Tumblr media
A tug pulled me out of my daydream. Deuce walked up to the door, turning the knob. He sighed when it turned and opened. He walked in, pulling me in with him, closing it behind him. “Mom! You need to lock the door when it's just you in the house!!” He called out. We heard something drop to the ground and someone rushing to the hall. We saw a woman who was a little shorter than me poke her head from around the corner. Her clear blue eyes lit up as her long black hair swayed in a ponytail. Her face brightened upon seeing us in her doorway.
Mrs. Spade rushed towards Deuce giving him a huge hug. Deuce sighed but smiled as he returned the gesture. She pulled back cupping Deuces face.
“Look at you! Did you grow again?” She asked adoringly. Deuce smiled however his cheeks turned red when he met my fond gaze. This seemed to snap Mrs. Spade out of her fussing over her son as she turned to look at me. Her smile only grew as she threw herself at me. I yelped as I wrapped my arms around her in turn. “I was so happy when I heard my son finally confessed to you! I was so sure you would have been the one to confess!” She cheered as she hugged me like one of my own. I smiled as I let the surprised tension leave my arms.
A few months before Deuce and I started dating I met her and the other families/ guardians during the parent visit week (Though it had only lasted two days). After that Crowley thought it was a great opportunity to get me a mother role model and choose the mothers of my close friends in my grade. (The first year group). It was a trick, don't worry though, I made sure to use A LOT of Crowley's money for tricking me into a car with a bag over my head and dumping me in the middle of a village I didn't know.
“Its really good to see you again Mrs. Spade.” I smiled at her. She let out a gasp and a pout, shaking her head at me.
“Tsk, Tsk. From this day forth you will call me mom or mother. Even if you weren't dating my son. I already consider you family my dear.” I felt my body jolt in shock at the notion of calling someone else's mother, mom. She smiled at me and leaned closer to me, making me blush with how flustered and off guard she had made me. “Now, try that again!” She suggested. Deuce took note of my flabbergasted state and started to scold her, however I swallowed my nerves and looked down shyly.
“I-Its really good too see y-you, m-mom.” I stuttered out quietly but enough for them both to hear me. I heard her squeal as she brought me into her arms again.
“I always wanted a daughter! Who would have thought that my son would have brought me such a cute one!” She said as she stroked my hair. I smiled at her sweet and kind personality. I saw Deuce blushing up a storm at his mother calling me her daughter. I smiled at him, making him give me a smile in return. Mrs. Spade pulled back smiling brightly at me. “Now! Let me show you to your room!” She exclaimed. I jumped holding the small red box in my hands up.
“Before that, this is for you. A really good friend of ours made this for us.” I said. She looked at the box with sparkling eyes and gently took it from my hands. She opened it only to find a strawberry orange tart in it. She smiled widely, Deuce leaning over her to look at it.
“Oh! Trey was working on this last night.” Deuce said, looking at me. I smiled at the thought. Trey was really mother material.
“Oh! He was that young fellow with the glasses from the same dorm as you, right Honey?” Mrs. Spade asked. Deuce smiled as he nodded. “What a sweet young man he is. Ill go place this in the kitchen and we can have it after dinner tonight. Deuce will you show her to her room. After that we will sit in the living room for a bit till your grandma gets here.” She turned to start walking down the hallway, but stopped giving Deuce a scolding look. “(Name) will be staying in the guest room…” She stated sternly. Deuce Flushed red but opened his mouth to protest.
“S-She can stay in my room!” He tried to reason but she held her hand up making him stop.
“I may be excited to have her here and I may be your mother, but I must protect her from wolves like you, my dear boy.” She said, walking off not listening to any  back talk. I tilted my head. Wolf? I didn't really see him as such, more like a rabbit since he was fast on his feet. I giggled at the disappointed look on his face. He sighed looking dejected as he took my hand to lead me up the steps to the second floor.
(Picture below is the second floor layout)
Tumblr media
“So the room right  across is my room, the other side is the laundry room/ Bathroom. That room next to mine is my moms.” He reached for the door knob of the last room opening it. “And this is where you will be sleeping..” He muttered disappointedly. I giggled, walking it and placing my suitcase on the bed. I jumped at two strong arms wrapped around my waist. I sighed as I leaned into the chest of my moping boyfriend.
“There isn't any need to be so disappointed.” I said looking back at him. He pouted his lips moving into my neck to nuzzle into me.
 I giggled as I shifted myself around to face him, nuzzling into his neck in return. I relished in his sweet scent. I felt him lightly kiss my neck, making me giggle at the ticklish feeling. His arms tightened around me as he moved to lightly nibble my neck. “Deuce~!” I whined into his shoulder. I felt him smile as his name left my lips. He pulled back, smiling down at me. He leaned forward, placing a kiss to my forehead. I raised a eyebrow at him for not giving me a proper kiss. I grabbed his shirt and pulled him down to place a gentle kiss on his lips. I let him go after a peck to bask in his sweet blush. He groaned as he pulled us both down onto the bed, holding me against his chest.
“Your cuteness should be illegal.” He muttered as he nuzzled into my head. I raised myself a little to look at him properly.
“That should be my line.” I counter. He snorted at my comment as if it was a joke though I was 100% serious. He pulled my head down, making me rest on his chest. We laid there for a few minutes enjoying each other's warmth. He gently stroked my head and back, making me sigh in content.
The lack of sleep and the stress of introducing myself as deuce's girlfriend to his mother must have hit me all at once. His heartbeat was my lullaby and his body heated my own personal blanket. I nuzzled a little more into his chest as I felt my eyes start to get heavy. I felt Deuce kiss my head.
“I love you….” He murmured quietly. He also sounded tired. I let myself get pulled into the warm embrace of sleep, not before muttering a sleepy I love you too in return.
~~~~( On Mrs. Spades side of things)~~~~
“They are taking a while…” She muttered as she started up the stairs. She felt a bubble of worry in her chest since she technically sent them both to a bedroom. She saw the guest room’s door wide open and peeked in, ready to kick Deuce's ass if he was doing anything to his sweet girlfriend.
She froze at the sight. The two love birds had fallen asleep. It was such an innocent thing that made her heart swell at the cuteness. She quietly walked in, taking (Names) suitcase off the bed and grabbing a blanket from the closet to place over the two. She smiled at the two one last time before leaving (Keeping the door open for obvious reasons).
“Such a fine young lady, my dear boy got himself.” She said proudly as she walked down the stairs.
I hope you enjoyed this small chapter.

@muralmxse: Clawd watched the mummy manster walked into the gym and nodded to Deuce. Remember watching him the other day, he'd figured it was no harm.  ❝ Hey mummy dude! We could use a fifth player. You game? ❞

Skilled hands tie bandages around the prince's arms, neatly wrapping them past his palm so they go around the fingers, creating a gloveless look. Atem then folds and unfolds his fingers to test the sturdiness. Any jewelry that would be getting in the way has been removed to avoid injury or possibly getting lost. Atem doesn’t miss putting his hair up as well in a tiny ponytail. Now all left is to check the bandages around his legs, which he already is wearing. So far, everything seems to be good.
A voice from the side captures his attention and he turns his head to spot Clawd. And Deuce! Ah, he’s seen the werewolf around Deuce before but never got to meet him. This gives him the opportunity to maybe make a new friend.

“You don't have to not ask me twice,” the prince responds with a nod, his smile channeling his enthusiasm. This has got to be one of his favorite activities. He gets to burn energy and interact with others at the same time. Atem can’t stand still for long periods of time, so he always make sure to be active in the gym in between classes.
He approaches the team players, feeling the adrenaline rush as his eyes shimmer with anticipation.
“Let’s do this!” Atem exclaims.

¤°~Ghost Marriage: Lovely Bride To Be?! Part 3°~¤
Previously...
"STOP YOUR STEP!!"
At the end of the hall, Senior Vanrouge and Sebek were conversing with the ghosts knights. "They became angery just because of a mere joke I made about them. Such a bunch of narrow minded ghosts." Lilia jests with ignorance in his tone.
"Ugh, the guys from Diasomnia! Why did you bring these ghosts here?!" Ace yells out in fear. "You naive ghosts who dare to snarl at Lilia. I'll get rid of you guys!" Sebek said with very little amusement.
Present Time..
After the fight with the ghosts. The student's and Headmaster go to the field so ghosts won't bother them. Students who were also kicked out the school stayed at the field. "Ha...haaa. Ugh the sides of my stomach hurt so much." Ace tries to say as he and Deuce groan and grumble in pain.
"Ace, Deuce." A familiar voice spoke. "Ah, Prefect Roseheart!" The two huff out as they nod. Azul and Kalim stood next to Riddle, but Azul looks at the two with confusion. "Where is Prefect (Y/N)? Shouldn't you two be with her?" The prefect of Octavinelle points out.
The A-Deuce combo only shrug. "I think she got mixed up the crowed." Deuce says as he looks at the growing crowd of students. "How did you guys get put here?" Ace asks the three dorm leaders.
"We had gotten chased out by some ghosts that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Even though it was valuable time for the three of us to study together." Kalim responded, while Azul shot him tired glance. "Kalim. Shouldn't it be "valuable time where we teach you about studying."?" Riddle could only sigh and cross his arms. "We almost got Kalim to understand the question..!"
"When we stayed in class, a bunch of ghosts appeared. They chased us out while saying, "this will be the brides fitting room!"" Grim watched as more students came up to them. Telling the same tale. "Everyone who was kicked out from campus has already gathered around..!"
"It seems like the whole campus has been taken away by those ghosts." Deuce said rather calmly. Ace on the other hand was more shocked than calm. "Oi! Principal, what's going on!?"
Before Mr. Crowley could respond, Ortho decided to explain. "I'll be the one to explain. You see, yesterday..." Once the young Shroud told everyone of the events that occurred. Everyone went silent. The only person who spoke after Ortho, was Riddle.
"The ghost groom has been searching for his ideal princess. Then had chosen (Y/N) as his ideal bride... That's the idea, correct?" Riddle revised as his expression was oddly calm. "WHAT!!!!" The group of NRC boys all screamed in anger and fear, a lot of other expression as well.
"We need to save her!!" Ace says immediately after the video was shown. "What will happen to (Y/N) if she does marry the Ghost Groom?!" Deuce asks the principal with fret. Mr. Crowley casted his eyes downward, with a somber voice he said.
"If (Y/N) marries the ghost prince, that is the same meaning of signing a contract. Which will mean, once the wedding is over.. SHE WILL FOLLOW HER SOON-TO-BE-HUSBAND TO THE UNDERWORLD!!!" "EEEEHHH!!!" Everyone yelled out in shock.
Mr. Crowley continues: "I put my guard down because I never would of expected someone who meets the conditions of the prince and his ideal Princess would exist in this world." Headmaster Crowley said with dread in every word he spoke.
"(Y/N)... Is going to be a ghost..!?" Epel gasps out with fear. "We can't let that happen!" Jack gruffs out as he bared his fangs. Many others agreed at helping the female student from her impending doom.
"We need to come up with a plan then!" Ortho tells the group of fired-up teens. "How about we start talking with them? We can throw a party! I bet that the ghosts will definitely let (Y/N) go if we just explain the situation."
The young Al-Asim heir suggested to his fellow peers. Rook nods, agreeing with his classmates. "A truly splendid idea, Roi d'or." A slim smile crepts on Rooks lips, "though..." The huntsman drawls out, his eyes turn a bit narrow.
"Do you think you'll be able to persuade a groom who has been searching for his bride for so long?" Rook crossed his arms over his chest as he continues on. His voice hinting with amusement. "If I was in his place, I'd never let my beloved go."
Leona growls, "so our only option is to just beat those ghost into submission." Vil scoffed at Leona and his idea. "Have you forgotten that we all ran all the way out here because we couldn't do just that." The male model said sassily with a frown gracing his painted lips. "No matter what we did, we couldn't defeat all those ghosts."
The headmaster starts to speak, "they are truly a infuriating opponent to take on. We should avoid confrontation as much as possible." Lilia starts to ponder as Crowley squawked about. "Lord Sam is well versed in the ways of ghosts and things of a spiritual nature. Shall we go see what he has to say on the matter?"
"Lord Sam... Do you mean Sam from the student store?" Deuce questioned the old fae. Lilia hums, "I was acquainted with his great grandfather." Cater starts to laugh dryly. "I still can't tell when you're joking or when your being serious... Lilia."
"Then we must make haste to the student store!" The headmaster yells as he and the others rush to Sam's shop. As soon as the shop door closed, Sam greets them. "Yo, headmaster and little demons. Whay could you be looking for that brought you all here?"
Sam chuckles and shakes his head. "Kidding! I know you're looking for something to deal with that ghost groom, right?" Sam told the group of teens and headmaster. Riddle is perplexed by Sam and his words. "This speeds things up but it sounds like you knew we would end up here."
Sam starts to laugh once more. "My friends on the other side bring me all kinds of info." Soon Sam's voice quickly turns less cheerful. "But things are getting really dicey. Ghost are tied to this world by a really powerful "lingering attachment".
Sam explained more in depth on what he meant. How they still come back because of the "attachment". "And as long is it remains, they'll keep comin' back." Grim felt realization struck him like lightning. "That's why the ghost of Ramshackle keep coming back!"
"Bingo! Precisely. That's why ghosts are so hard to handle." Ortho asked how they can save (Y/N), saying there was no such item like that to get rid of the ghost permanently. Sam grins and says, "IN STOCK NOW!" Azul looks at Sam selection while Leona tsks.
"Groom and brides are especially quick to meet tragedy. So they turn into ghosts all the time." Sam then holds up a item, "to get rid of a ghost groom. You need the "ring of severance." Slide this ring onto the host's left finger while saying "I shall love you till death do us part." And it will forcibly send him to the other side."
"How could (Y/N) give this to him? She's not even here!" Vil said as he picks up the small ring. Crowley gasped as he remembers something about the ghost groom. "Hold on a moment, the ghost groom was a boy who loved a challenge."
"So if one of you asked for (Y/N)'s hand. He'll see it as a duel for her hand in marriage, you don't have to win. But you must be able to give her the ring and tell her what to say." Lilia giggles at the crows plan. "It'll be fun to watch the drama unfold by stealing someone's bride."
"We shall call this plan... "Operation, Lovely Bride To Never Be!"" The headmaster said confidently, "it's a bit long for a name." Ace mutters under his breath. "Now I must decide on who the grooms will be for his plan." Crowley exclaimed as the male students to crowd and shout. "I'll do it!" "Let me do it!" "As if!"
The headmaster started to sweat with nervousness stirring in him. The gleaming eyes of the students were scaring him! It was almost as if each student was ready to take a role as a groom by ANY means necessary. Which it seemed like the students were readying themselves for.
"Alright alright! Will do a vote! I will write down all of your names and put them in my hat. I'll choose four grooms for this operation. So that means four names will be drawn." Mr. Crowley says with a exasperated look on his face.
_________________________________________________________
(Y/N) sat in the far corner of the "fitting room." She held a blank expression as she looks at herself. She wore a beautiful wedding (gown/suit/ect) as her hair was spruced up and was placed into a (loose/ponytail/ect). A (white/gold/silver) tiara with a veil attached to it was on her head. (Y/N) wanted to rip the thing off her, but then the ghost would force the item back onto her head again.
Sighing and cursing under her breath. (Y/N) felt queasy, or maybe it was because she hadn't ate anything yet. This was all happening so fast! (Y/N) did not want to be married to this ghost groom. She hoped that her friends would find a way to get too her before the wedding started.
"Bleh..." The female utters as she looks at her bare feet. A knock was heard on the door as a soft "coming in" was heard. A slim ghost that wore a white suite appears in front of her. He was the nanny of the ghost groom.
"Come, my dear lady. Your fiance is waiting, he needs your help with decorations and would like your words on it." (Y/N) felt herself become stiff, but agrees. Playing along was her better chance of escaping her "wedding". "Of course," (Y/N) said politely as she walks with nanny ghost.
The two reach the cafeteria, now transformed with pretty decorations and tombstones. Along with dark blue flowers and white sheets cover each table. The nanny smiles at his prince with nostalgia. "It seems like only yesterday you were a small child. Trying to find follow your dream and find your dear princess. A dream you lost long ago with your life as well. What a cruel twist of fate." The nanny said as his voice started to crack.
"If only I had arrived at your room faster, I could of helped you escape..." The sweet prince smiles at his caretaker. "It is alright now, know need to bring up the past. Don't let all that stuff bring you down."
The young princes smile never faltered. "Besides, going through all that pain and sadness is what allowed me to meet (Y/N)!" His caretaker could feel his spirits lift at the princes words. "Oh prince Elias, you are always so courageous and strong."
(Y/N) could feel her heart cry at what she heard. She didn't know that... Breathing in a gulp of air, she slowly walks closer to the two. 'It's gonna be okay..' "You did a great job Elias." (Y/N) said as she gives him a small smile.
The ghost groom returns her smile tenfold as he looks at his bride. "My goodness, (Y/N)! You look just as beautiful as a.. Well beautiful than an' undead flower!" Elias said happily, (Y/N) giggles at his childish wording.
"Thanks." The caretaker gives the two a tender look. "You both are just perfect for one another. Prince Elias, we must get you ready before nightfall. You have to look your best for your princess."
The caretaker jests as he pushes the prince out of the cafeteria. "Wha- but I wanted to-!" "No sir, you must get ready. *Sigh* your still a stubborn little boy too." Elias waves at (Y/N), "I shall see you soon, my love!"
Once the two were gone, the ghost soldiers take (Y/N) back to the dressing room. Before the door closed, (Y/N) asks them something. "Can I please have something to eat? I haven't ate in a few hours."
To be continued...
(Okay, part three was supposed to be the end of the series. But that didn't happen, so I'll do my best to make sure part four is the last installment. I really wanna get to work for the Halloween event for Twst and a bunch of other stories I wanna put on this account! But I have to wait until I finish part four. Thanks for reading!)

A Different Kind Of Story - Some Tea And Chess
Now that everyone had gathered in the Ramshackle dorm and have met the unexpected guest, Yuko, she decided that it would be time to fulfil her promise; Showing her world to the others.
A Different Kind of Story: Chapter 2
The mirror started to glow again, the figure of the female disappeared. Instead of Yuko, the Main Street of NRC with the statues of the Great Seven. Along the path walked Yuko with a gremlin following her.
"Yukoooo~ It's Saturday! Why do we have to go Heartslabyul~? " The cat-like monster asked, mostly complained, in an annoyed voice while climbing on the girl's shoulder. "Oh, come now, Grim, cheer up! Rosehearts-senpai was kind enough to prepare a little tea party for us. Only our friends from Heartslabyul and us," they explained to the creature on her shoulder.
An unmotivated 'Nyaaa~' was the only answer she got, though.
They both stepped through the mirror leading to Heartslabyul and headed straight towards the dorm.
"Hello? Why is nobody here?" The Prefect of Ramshackle said out loud as she entered the building. She looked around the twisted floors but saw no one. Abruptly, a giggle echoed through the deformed floor. They quickly looked around, seeing nothing again. In the next moment, she felt two hands on her shoulders and could hear the giggles right next to their ear.
"YOU ACTUALLY CAME!"
Yuko and Grim both froze in place. The one who surprised them had her hair in a high, messy ponytail and had cherry red eyes with a red heart painted on her left.
It took a moment for the Ramshackle students to gain their composure again. Yuko then laughed a bit at her friends 'joke'. "Of course, Ace. First of all, I wanted to come. Second, I don't want my head taken." Yuko joked. The other one, on the other hand, answered completely serious. "Yuko-chi, you know god damn well this could've happened. By the way, don't you mean 'Our'? We aaaaalllll would've lost our heads!" The student gestured dramatically. Yuko just shook her head with a sigh, which got her a happy laugh from their friend.
"No, I mea-"
"I hate to admit it, yet Ace is right, you know?"
A second girl with long, navy hair and a spade on her right eye suddenly appeared behind the Ramshackle dorm leader. Yuko and Grim scream in fear, the scream echoing through the halls of Heartslabyul. Why does everyone here scare them or popped out of nowhere? "Deuce, you dumbass, don't scare us like that!" Grim fussed.
-
Together, the four of them walked to the dorm lounge.
As they open the door that leads to the lounge, welcoming came from two students. One had leaf green eyes, orange, long hair -with the top portion tied back into a ponytail while the rest hung straight- and a diamond painted under her right eye. The second one had golden eyes, with her green hair was in a side braid, with a clover painted onto her left cheek. It was pretty easy to tell that they were Trey and Cater.
"Yuko-chan! Grim-chan! Rosehearts-san already awaits you two!" The orange-haired schoolgirl cheerfully said and walked over to the first-years while taking her cellphone out. "Say Cheese~," She said and took a selfie with her underclassmen. "Greetings to you too, Cate-senpai. Also to you, Trey-senpai."
A fifth figure joined the talking girls.
A small girl.
She had long, wine red pigtails, those formed two open flowers, along two strands of hair making a heart on top of her head and slate-grey eyes. Her big gown made her look even more petit.---
She looked adorable.
-
The girls have moved to the dorm lounge to have tea. But the odd thing was they were upside down.
Meaning the table, everything on the table, and the girls themselves were on the ceiling, without falling. As if physics didn't exist.
-
It was so unexpected that Vil even cut in.
"How is this possible? Even the tea doesn't fall!"
Yuko, unfazed, answered the Pomifiore leader in mere seconds.
"Oh, trust me, I would like to know myself. So I can't really explain it to you. I apologize."
"Yuko-san, not to be rude or anything, but you do know the laws of physics and many more things should prevent occasions like this from happening, right?" Azul tried to explain.
The girl knew that Azul didn't mean it in a mean way. Everyone would question what they were saying.
"Fufufu, of course, I do. When I first saw this, I thought I was mad! It turned out they were the mad ones. But this is a topic for a later time. Let's get back on track," Yuko waved the conversation off. A few complaints came with this decision.
-
By the time Yuko managed to convince them that they'll find out what she means, later on, the girls themselves finished their tea. "Thank you very much for the invitation, Rosehearts-san. But Grim and I have to go now. I have promised, Kingscholar-senpai a round of chess yesterday."
"It's quite alright Yuko-san, I hope you'll have a pleasant day", the dorm leader of Heartslabyul dismissed the two visitors. Grim and Yuko said their goodbyes to the others and left off to Savannaclaw.
-
On the way to the second dorm, the boys met another friend of Yuko, Jackie. The beastman (woman?) Already awaited her at the mirror leading to the Savannaclaw dormitory. She looked pretty much exactly like Jack. The only significant change was that her hair was in a low ponytail. The wolf-girl accompanied the two visitors on their way to the dorm leader in an appreciated silence.
-
Currently, Yuko was in the middle of a chess match against her senior.
Grim laid asleep beside Yuko on the enormous bed of her upperclassman, not caring a bit about the chess game.
And in all honesty, they were only waiting until their opponent fell asleep as well, who already was halfway there.
"C'mon, Leona~ Don't fall asleep yet. You don't want to lose against a magicless first-year, don't cha?" As a response, Leona just grumbled something inaudible and flicked her tail.
The Prefect didn't take the magicless part too hard. They knew Ruggie only said that to rail Leona up.
Yuko silently smiled at themselves at the thought.
"You're head is up in the clouds again, herbivore." She quickly snapped back into reality and placed her figure.
"What the hell are you doing? Did you hit your head or what?"
"What do you mean, Kingscholar-senpai?"
Irritated, the lion motioned towards to playboard.
"This. You play like shit today. You're just lucky that you've always realized when I was able to defend you and stopped me." The only thing the third year got was a laugh.
"You may see it like that, I admit. Still, sometimes you have to take a step back and look at the whole picture in front of you."
Leona said nothing at this and decided to drop the conversation at that.
"Ugh, it pains me sometimes to know that you just leave stuff like that on the ground without fearing that somebody steals it!"
Both turned around to Ruggie holding an emerald bracelet. It was absolutely gorgeous. And expensive.
"Why should I? Nobody dares to enter my chambers, and if I'd find out that you've been stealing from me, I would force you to pay me all of that stuff, and you'd have to find a new job."
Ruggie just rolled her eyes.
"First of; That is the sad part: That you can threaten me by firing me and not pay me. Second; As of you'd care so much. I bet you wouldn't even notice if one of your accessories would disappear. You'd solely buy a new one. Enough money for you to do that is providing."
The two continued to argue as if Yuko wasn't even there.
She also didn't even try to do something against it since they knew it would do nothing.
The argument ended by Leona being annoyed and just telling Ruggie of and bringing her attention back to the chess game.
"Wow, I've been arguing and didn't pay complete attention, yet you still suck," the lion said with a smug smile.
"You only look onto the surface of things, don't you? Ignorance isn't a good look on you. Checkmate," Yuko said as she placed her chess piece back onto the board.
Leona's smug smile fell immediately.
"W-what? How?!"
Yuko only smiled while she explained her strategy.
"In conclusion, you've lost your chance at winning after I've made my first move." The second princess eyed them intensely. The Prefect's smile never more falling during the process.
After a minute of staring, the third-year broke the eye contact, rolled on her side and closed her eyes.
"Tch. Don't you herbivores have some other things to do? If yes, leave. Just make sure to put the board aside, and that quietly, got it?"
Yuko gave a recognition hum before moving off the bed, putting the board aside, taking Grim into their hands and making their way towards the door.
"Oh, before I leave." They turn around to their senior to face her. "I find it quite funny that this is one of your ways to handle failure. Just ignoring it. I may respect you, yes, yet you are a sour loser."
After that, she left without another word.

Into Wonderland Chapter Four: Scarabia Part One
They squint against the sun that blazes overhead, coughing up sand every once in a while. They lay there for a few moments, trying to get used to the suddenly very dry air.
Until they feel a pair of paws on their face. They jolt and move to shove whatever was on them off. Something yelps and snacks them with it's tail. They sit up, allowing their eyes to get used to the brightness. They see a small black cat?-... Raccoon? -sitting there, tail swishing angrily and glaring at them with it's almost flowing blue eyes. It's tail ends in a split series of points- resembling more of a pitchfork than a tail. It's ears spew out bright blue fire, which only adds to the heat of the desert that suffocates them.
"Where do I know you from?" They mumble out loud. The cat's ears twitch and it glares at them, shoving at their face. They jump up at the realization.
"You're from Wonderland! Or... a version of you... you can't talk, can you?" The cat stares at them as if they were insane, tail thrashing and smacking their knee.
"Right... right..." They mutter. They stand fully, stretching and walking towards what looks like a busy town. They duck between the busy stalls and try their best to blend in with the bustling crowd. The cat... Grim... they remember his name being, paws at their foot and they jump back, almost knocking into someone who was looking at a stand.
"I'm sorry!" They apologize, turning to face the stranger. The boy's hood covers most of his face but they can see the shadowed smile at them.
"It's okay!" The boy chirps, helping a child grab a piece of fruit from the stand. The child beams up at him and runs off.
"Hey!" The shopkeep shouts. The boy freezes and Mc internally curses themselves for finding trouble wherever they go. "You gonna pay for that?" The man snarls.
"I-" The boy stammers. "It's just an-"
"I'm sorry about him!" Mc intervenes, grabbing the boy's arm. "He's uhm..." The pause. "The heat's getting to him. Y'know... I told him to drink something before we left so he didn't get delirious!" They stammer, offering nervous laughter. The boy tries to play along, acting as if he was overheating and on the verge of passing out. A little overdramatic, Mc thinks nervously, but the shopkeep seems to buy it. "Y'know, desert... things..."
"I'll just get him home now- I'm terribly sorry about that-" They grab his arm and try to pull him away. They call out to Grim, who scampers past them. Someone shouts after him, pointing at the cat that was ducking between people's legs.
"That animal's a thief!"A townsperson yells. Mc looks down to Grim, who smiles nervously, a pocket watch and a few coins dangling from his neck.
"Seriously?!" Mc shouts, as guards duck between the busy crowd and head towards them. They grab the boy's hand and scoop up Grim and run in the opposite direction, weaving between people and going through buildings. They wheeze as they run, struggling to take in the dry air that the boy was clearly more used to. He takes the lead and drags them up a flight of cracking stone stairs. They can hear the footsteps thundering behind them and it makes them shiver, gulping.
They thud against the boy's back when he suddenly stops, grabbing onto their arm to stop them from going any further.
"There's no way out...!" The boy pants.
Mc looks around, realizing that what they were about to do is a very bad idea. They grab a nearby pole from a pile of materials left behind, likely for construction, and pray the amount of action movies they watched will pull through. They sprint towards the edge, wedging the pole in between the cracks in the stone and launching themselves at another rooftop. They roll across the ground, holding Grim to their chest as their back slams against a wall. They groan, ready to shout to the boy to do the same as them when a body slams against their own, knocking the breath out of their lungs.
The boy on top of them climbs off and leaps, laughing and jumping.
"That was-!" He stammers, breaking into laughter again. His hood is down and Mc can make out his messy white hair, tied back with a patterned headband. His ruby eyes gleam in the sunlight as he beams down at them, offering his hand to help them up.
"Amazing! It was amazing-!" He laughs again, spinning. "What you just did was amazing!"
"Thanks...?" They mumble, watching the boy curiously. He stops and pauses, mouth slightly open as his eyes widen as he looks over the city.  "What is it? Is something wrong?"
"No... it's not that at all-" He says breathlessly, a smile making it's way to his face. "I've just never seen Agrabah like this before..."
Mc looks across the city, across the rows of houses and lights, highlighted by the setting sun over the far off desert. Clouds glow a light orange and blue, making the city seem like a place out of a fantasy.
Which it might just be, Mc thinks.
"I uhm... don't leave the house much," The boy chuckles nervously, leaning against the stone wall and holding his face in his palms. "It's so pretty..."
"Yeah..." Mc stands next to him. Grim is fast asleep on the ground next to them as they sit in silence for a few moments, watching the sun set over the vast desert. Soon enough, the sly turns into a deep blue, speckled with stars and a full moon rising from behind them, shrouding the city in moonlight.
"You're not from here, are you?" The boy breaks the silence, motioning at the thick wedding clothing they still wear from the fake wedding with Prince Deuce on the ship.
They shake their head. "Not at all."
"I hope you like it here, if you decide to stay." He smiles up at them, jumping up in a panic. "I need to get home! Jamil's probably worried..."He shouts suddenly, making Mc jump and waking up Grim. The cat grumbles at the boy, who scrambles towards a broken set of stairs. Mc follows close behind taking a mental note of the location of the building because, chances are, that will be where they sleep.
Unless the boy offers to bring them home.
But, with his worried mumbling as Mc follows him down the empty streets.
"I-I'm sorry I kept you for so long-" He whispers as they turn another corner, bumping into another boy.
"Where have you been?" The man- Jamil?-asks, steel grey eyes staring Mc down.
The boy hesitates, stepping in front of Mc. "I-I know I wasn't supposed to sneak out but I really, really wanted to see the town today and-"
"Did you forget that you had a suitor coming today?"
"A... what?" The boy pauses before grimacing. "Oh...."
"You're lucky I was able to convince your father  that you were ill." The brown haired boy scolds, glaring at the other boy. "Now-" He pulls the white haired boy behind him, striding towards Mc, who shakes a bit under his intense gaze. "Who are you and what were you doing with Kalim?"
"I-"
"They helped me! I messed up in the town square and they saved me from the guards-"
"Saved you?" The man asks, annoyance lacing his voice. "They could have killed you instead!" Taking a breath, he shoots the smaller boy a look that says 'we'll talk about this later', which makes him awkwardly shuffle his feet.
"Stay here." The man orders them. They freeze and nod curtly, noticing an apologetic look from Kalim as the taller boy takes him away.
Am I going to die? Mc thinks as they disappear behind the corner. Suitor? Is Kalim a prince? Why is everyone I meet royalty doing something they aren't supposed to? Lost in their thoughts, they don't notice that the man with the ponytail returned until they feel a firm hand on their shoulder.
"With me," He says, motioning them to follow him. They walk further and further away from the town and into the desert. The sand shifts under their feet and they slip a few times while the man continues to walk in a straight line, used to walking through the desert.
Their mouth is dry and chalky, any attempts to make it better being snuffed out by the anxiety of the long walk.
"Uhm..." They choke out. "Where... are we going?" They're out of breath and feel as if their legs are going to give out.
"Do you know about the Cave of Wonders?" The boy asks quietly, stopping when they get to a large dune. Mc gives themselves a minute to breathe, fighting the urge to lay down in the sand and sit there until they get sent to a different world.
"No...?"
"It's said that it holds great treasures, unlocked with a scarab beetle pendant." He pauses and looks down at them, as if to make sure they're listening. "Hold this-" He gently passes the cold metal bug into the hands, the two pieces clinking against each other softly.
"What does this...?" They trail off, shifting their palms to connect the two pieces. They both hold their breath as the pieces click together.
But nothing happens.
Jamil sighs, extending his hand to tale the beetle back. Mc raises their hand and it begins to shake, the ruby eyes glowing as it's metallic wings begin to buzz. Jamil's lips quirk into a small smile as it flies away, disappearing into the sand nearby.
"I was right about you," He whispers.
"What?"
"The cave can only be entered by a... diamond in the rough, so to speak." He explains, leading them towards where the beetle disappeared. "It's you."
The sand shifts underneath them and they both struggle to stand, with Mc falling and landing on their back, nearly crushing Grim in the process. The sand shifts as it rises, forming a lions head that stands with it's jaw wide open, revealing a pitch black path that goes down it's throat.
"Only one may enter here," The cave roars. "One whose worth lies far within. A diamond in the rough."
"I need you to go in there," Jamil says suddenly, walking towards the cave. "There's a lamp in there that holds more power than you can imagine. I need you to get it."
"So I go into the mysterious murder hole and grab a... lamp?" Jamil nods. "And get out. Somehow."
Jamil ignores their sarcasm and nods. "You mustn't grab anything other than the lamp."
They take a few hesitant steps forward. "...what happens if I do?"
"I'm not sure." Jamil admits, staring into the mouth of the cave.
"Okay, I'll do it-" They pause. "But only if you help me find a way home."
Jamil ponders this for a moment and nods. "That's a fair plan. I'll be waiting here."
They take a few steps into the cave, already feeling the cold from within creeping into their bones. They walk through the long hall, slipping on the sand that covers the steep slope of the throat. They hold Grim to their chest and he squirms in their grip.
"Stop that!" They scold, losing their footing and slipping down the path. They scream, sliding across the sand and tumbling when the floor finally evens out. Grim yowls as they roll off of him, accidentally stepping on his tail. "Sorry! Sorry!"
They stare around them at the gold and jewels that cover the expanse of the massive cave. They find themselves staring into a gold lined mirror, reaching out for the delicate necklace that hung from one of it's carved branches. Grim scratches their arm, leaving a red streak and they wince.
"Hey!" They glare down at him. He looks back up at them knowingly. They rub at the scratch on their arm and nod. "Right. The lamp."
They walk for a bit, struggling to keep Grim isolated to the small walkway that is dug out through the mountains of treasure. They find themselves at the base of a small mountain of treasure, noticing the glistening lamp overhead. They take a break and begin the climb, ignoring the painful scratching of the sand that's stuck in the folds of their clothes as they climb higher and higher, finally grabbing a hold of the surprisingly warm lamp.
They smile and get ready to climb down when the cave suddenly begins to shutter and crack. "What?!" They yell, looking down at Grim, who drops the ruby he was pawing at. They feel annoyance rise in the chest and they scowl, tumbling to the floor in a flash. A wave of heat surrounds them, making the air harder to breathe as they scoop up Grim and sprint away from the source.
Cracks open in the walls and they panic, launching themselves onto a hill to avoid the magma that rapidly pools around them. They gulp, sweat dripping down their face as they hold onto the cat for dear life.
"Help!" They yell, anxiety pooling in their gut. Granted, they're likely to wake up in another universe again, but they'd rather not burn to death beforehand.
Wind spirals above them and they jolt, looking up to see... nothing. The sigh, clutching Grim and the lamp closer to their chest as they screw their eyes shut, praying that this wasn't the last world they travel to.
They're quickly thrown into the air and land on a soft carpet. Mc slowly opens their eyes when Grim paws at their face and they smile nervously, looking down at the magma that flows beneath them. The carpet seems to respond to this and wiggles a bit, sending them off balance. "T...thanks?" They whisper, unsure if it can understand their language. They give it a few nervous pats and it wiggles more, seemingly pleased with their actions. They point it towards the entrance to the cave and fly as fast as they can, dodging falling rocks and jewels as they zoom towards the mouth of the cave, which closes slowly.
"Jamil!" They yell as they get close to the entrance. The boy looks for the source of the voice and, with a look of both panic and relief, his eyes land on them.
"Just drop everything!" He yells as they get closer. The sand shifts so he can't get any closer to the mouth of the lion. "Get yourselves out!"
The carpet veers suddenly and Mc screams as the lions mouth suddenly clamps closed with a bang, a gust of wind sending everyone to the ground. They hold onto Grim and the Carpet as they fall, hitting the ground with a thud. They hear a few cracks and pain shoots up their back for a moment, but they open their eyes.
"I'm still alive-" They whisper. Grim rolls over and huffs and the carpet slouches against a wall, defeated. "It's okay," They pat in between the cat's fiery ears. "I'll get us out of here."
They shuffle for the lamp, turning it over in the dim light. The side seems to have some sort of messy engraving on it, coated with sand and dust. They wipe at the spot with their thumb and it shakes, making them drop it at their feet. They grab Grim and the carpet and walk backwards, anxiety bubbling in their stomach as smoke pours out of the open spout.
A tall figure stretches and yawns, followed by two others who groan as they leave the vessel.
"That sucked!" One of the figures says in a familiar voice. Floyd?
"How do you think we felt? Trapped in there for thousands of years with you." Another voice argues. Azul!
"Just one moment- let us properly thank whomever released us first-" Jade! They think gleefully.
"Little human~ Come out come out wherever you are~!" Chills run down their spine and they think that they'd be used to the way the eel talks but no, it just gets more terrifying the more they talk to him.
They set Grim down and place a finger to their lips before stepping into the open cavern. "Oh?" Jade floats a little closer to them, tail swaying ominously. "This little thing?"
"Little?!" They jump as something pokes the small of their back.
"Yep! You look pretty small to me-" Floyd laughs.
"Okay okay whatever-" They step back. "What are you?"
"Oh? I thought you heard if us considering you came into the cave and rubbed our lamp-" Azul hums, tentacles picking up and flicking small coins everywhere.
"No! I was told to come down here!"
"Told? By who?" Jade inquires, picking up Grim and the carpet out of their hiding spot, dropping them on the ground.
"Can we figure out how to get out of this cave first?"
"Of course. You just have to wish to leave!"
"I wish to leave this dumb cave!" They shout, grabbing Grim and the carpet. They're rocketed back outside into the sand. The sun is high in the sky at this point and makes everything on their body burn, the sand on the ground hot to the touch.
"Floyd..." Azul warns, pinching the bridge of his nose. "You forgot to tell them the rest!"
"Don't feel like it."
"My apologies about my brother. As I'm sure you're aware of by now, that's Floyd and I am his twin brother, Jade. The octopus is our colleague, Azul. We are genies." Jade introduces, nothing Mc didn't know already. "Considering you were the one who rubbed the lamp, you are our new master. You will get three wishes, so long as you rub the lamp while making the wish."
"So that one didn't count?"
"Correct. There are quite a few rules on wishes you cannot make, for example you cannot make anyone fall in love with you, bring back the dead, or wish for more wishes." Mc swears under their breath at the last one, which makes Jade chuckle.
"However, considering how we've been unfairly taken advantage of earlier, in exchange we ask that you use one of your wishes on us." Azul floats in front of them, upholding the same businessmanlike aura that he was able to keep up underwater. Their mind flashes to their final moments under the sea- Floyd injured, Jade being thrown to the side, a metal rod headed towards Azul. They shake their head and nod, motioning for the octomer to continue.
"We ask that you set us free from the lamp forever."
"That sounds easy enough," Mc nods. "Okay, I'll do it."
"It's a deal, then." Azul smiles.
"Now, what do you want for your first wish?" Jade inquires. They think for a moment, mind tracing back Jamil's fearful expression as the cave closed and Kalim's sad expression when he looked over his city for the first time.
I can help them both. They think.
"Okay, my first wish is-"
"The lamp," Jade reminds, holding it out to them. They take it with an apologetic smile and begin to move their hand along the side.
"I wish to go to the palace of Agrabah!"  They announce. Floyd laughs.
"I got this one!"

“All teenagers scare the living shit out of me.”
I... have no excuse. I need a fic where Silver sneaks off to be a rebellious teenager without Lilia or Malleus knowing as well as being a good senpai with a hidden, fun side. Warning: it’s pretty long and yay for MCR’s songs. Anyway, enjoy.
-
Sneaking out of the Diasomnia dorm is so easy once you’ve memorised every corner, hallways and the occasional night owl wandering about like a pale ghost underneath the moonlight.
It’s also a lot easier once you mastered the silencing spell. Especially if your room is a floor beneath two powerful and ancient Faes and below is another Fae known to read late into the night when he couldn’t sleep.
After slipping the red jacket on, Silver ties his hair into a small ponytail and checks his reflection at the vanity table one last time. His eyeshadows are fine so he just adjusts his hair a little to let the bangs framed his face a lot neater before grabbing his phone and wallet.
Silver turned off the lamp on his bedside table and immediately, his room is thrown into darkness. Only the soft moonlight reveals him standing at the door, his hand on the doorknob as he tries his best to listen to any sound outside. Malleus would already be fast asleep, judging by the hour. Lilia would also be fast asleep after pulling a four-day all-nighter playing video games with Ortho. Sebek had mentioned during lunchtime that he’s exhausted from helping the other First Year students of their dorm studying, so he’d probably turn in early tonight.
When he could hear nothing, Silver cast a silencing spell on himself as soon as he exits his room. The hallways look so eerie at night with the swaying green flames from the candles. The thorny vines creeping up the walls and ceilings cast long shadows underneath the soft light. The dorm would spook anyone meant not to be here, but Silver has become accustomed to sneaking between the shadows of Diasomnia that nothing but Lilia’s footstep can startle him.
Once he reaches a dead end in the hallway on the ground floor, Silver gently presses one of the bricks hidden behind the thick tapestry and the brick wall reveal a hole that’s big enough for him to slip out to the back of the dorm.
The cold night air envelop him as soon as he steps outside with the moon hanging high and full in the starry night sky. It’s a quiet, peaceful night and more importantly, one of the rare nights that Silver is fully awake for once and he plans to take advantage of it.
Silver raises an open palm to summon a couple of fireflies to lead him through the forest. The little creatures shine a brilliant shade of dark green light; strong enough to illuminate the path for him. The occasional hoot of the owls and crickets accompanied him as he walks deeper into the forest towards his destination.
However, he instantly froze when he heard something unexpected somewhere near him. A couple of voices dispels the quiet evening.
“ - right way?”
“Pretty... sure. I’ve walked... way... a couple... time now!”
Silver frowns. He ducks underneath a thick branch and hides behind a tree as the voices gradually become louder and clearer. The green fireflies disperse at a flick of his finger.
“Are you sure we aren’t lost?” Silver knew that voice. It’s that human student from the Ramshackle dorm - Yuu.
“Yeah, Ace. Isn’t this the way to the Dwarf’s Mine?” Another First Year student - Deuce - chimed in.
“Of course we aren’t lost! Look, it’s just a couple more steps, and we should be on the path towards the back entrance of the campus, alright?’ Ace assured them. He then leads the way, and the two hurried after him, the flashlight from their phones pierce through the darkness in front of them.
‘What... are they doing?’ Silver wondered as he watches them going further away from the same path that he’s on. He has a feeling that they too, are planning to sneak out of campus, but they’re going the wrong way, just like Yuu suspected. He bit his lower lip and then sigh, mind already made up.
Without hesitation, Silver went after them. There are monsters that lurk in this forest, and the ones that only reveal under the cover of the night tend to be vicious and nasty. Despite not being from the same dorm, it wouldn’t sit well with him as a Second Year student if he lets a bunch of newbies gets hurt if he could help it.
And when Ace let out a shriek, Silver quickens his steps and prepare his magic.
“What the fuck is that!?” Deuce shouted, eyes wide open in shock. Ace is on the ground, flat on his ass with Yuu and Deuce in front of him.
A large slime-like shadow monster with multiple red eyes and way too many mouths loom over them. As it bares its razor-sharp teeth and prepares to pounce on them, Silver shouted.
“Get down!” He ordered and threw a large fireball at the monster. Fortunately, Yuu and Deuce were smart enough not to question and quick enough to duck.
The creature let out an unnerving shriek of pain, but the fire refused to snuff out. The teacher had covered this particular monster during the first semester for the Second Year curriculum, so Silver knows how just how to defeat. He raises the fire higher and hotter until the monster bubbles and evaporates into soft smoke.
The green fireflies returned and circled them to ward off any more surprises.
“Silver-senpai?” Yuu called out, tilting his head in both relieve and confusion. “What are you doing here so late at night?”
“Isn’t that supposed to be my question?” Silver countered instead. Folding his arms, he then asks, “Shouldn’t it be common sense to stay away from the forest? Especially at night?”
At least Yuu had the decency to look bashful. Ace, however, managed to shake off his fear to reply, “You haven’t answered him, Silver-senpai. And why are you wearing such cool clothes for? Wait... are you going to the Mystic Elixir too?”
“Ace!” Deuce hissed, but that was all Silver needed to know.
“What!? You’re thinking about it too!”
“G-Guys...”
Silver sighs. He really didn’t expect this; looks like Azul wasn’t kidding that this trio tends to bring trouble wherever they go. Still, maybe he can work something out...
“Actually, I am.”
His blunt and honest admission shocks them. “Whoa... I didn’t know that Silver-senpai is the kind of person to break the rules.” Deuce said in awe with a hint of respect.
Silver just shrugs. He’s aware of the school’s impression of him and his family; rather than getting annoyed, he let them think what they like. “What I do in my free time is my own business. Now, since we’re both breaking the rules and planning to go to the same place, our little trip to the city is going to be a secret just between us. Got it?”
“C-Crystal, Silver-senpai!”
“Of course, Silver-senpai!”
“...Yes, Silver-senpai.”
Silver nodded. “Good. Follow me.” He turns around to return to the previous path with the First Years meekly walk behind him. “Have you three been to the Mystic Elixir before?” He asks.
“We overheard it from Cater-senpai and got curious.” Deuce explains. “He said that it’s the only nightclub that doesn’t care about your age.”
“Have you heard about it, Silver-senpai?” Yuu interjects. The boy’s eyes glint underneath the light of the fireflies. Is he genuinely incapable of using magic like the Mirror of Darkness said?
“Been there a couple of times.” Silver admits. This results in a chorus of awe and questions, but he put a stop to it with a raise of his hand. “Ground rule: I’ll take you guys there, but you guys are not allow to drink. If I see any you disappear from my line of sight or do anything besides dancing and talking, I’ll haul your asses back here. Understand?” He demands, trying to sound as firm as he can. Hopefully, they’ll take his words seriously; he doesn’t have much practise other than arguing with Sebek.
The trio murmurs, “Yes, Silver-senpai.” Good enough.
When they reach far enough from the campus, Silver calls for a transportation portal from their area straight to the street where the nightclub is. If they were within the boundary of the college, the headmaster would sense the portal immediately, which is why they needed to be out of the radius to leave safely.
“I’m so excited!” Ace exclaim with a wide grin. “This is going to be the best night ever!”
“As long as we listen to Silver-senpai rules and don’t stay too long, it should be fine...” Deuce quietly assure himself, but Silver could see him fidgeting with excitement and eagerness.
Yuu said nothing. Though he kept sneaking glances at Silver; wanting to say something but stop himself every time. Silver made a mental note to ask him if they had the chance.
As soon as they step into the portal with Silver being the last, the Mystic Elixir appear before them. The building is large, circular with three floors and a rooftop lounge. The main entrance holds up the name of the nightclub in bright purple lights with the walls flashing a myriad of soft colours and music can be heard blasting inside.
“Oh wow, look at the line!” Ace pointed out. Like any other typical Saturday night, the club had a long line of people eager to get in. “It’ll take forever for us to get in at this rate!”
“Just follow me.” Silver simply replied and went around the building. The First Years continue to trail after him like ducklings; their excited chatter muffled. Away from prying eyes, they slip into an alley beside the building where an imposing bouncer is guarding a small door.
When he saw Silver, he peers over his sunglasses. “Oh-ho, the guys and I’ve been wondering when you would show up, Argentum. There’s even a bet running that you ran off to some other clubs at the other side of the city.” The Minotaur said with a friendly grin.
Silver rolled his eyes. “It’s only been four months. Anyway, is Hansel in tonight?”
“Heck yeah! He’s manning the bar on the ground floor with a couple of new girls. There’s a new menu that I think you’re gonna like.”
The two chatted for a few more minutes before he laughs at Silver’s sarcastic quip and opens the door for them; barely batted an eye at the three kids behind him as they shuffle in.
“Does Silver-senpai knows a lot of people in the city?” Deuce couldn't help but ask when the door close behind them. Silver leads them through the dimly lit hallway to where the music and people shouting and singing is.
“No.” Silver answered, and that’s that. When they finally reach the dance floor, Deuce and Ace gape at the sight. Music blares from every corner of the large room, the bright and colourful LED lights pulse from the ceilings, walls, and the entire floor is crowded with all sorts of creatures; some were dancing, some were playing cards and drinking at the tables while others made their way to the neon stairs for the rooftop lounge.
“Now this is a party! C’mon, c’mon! Let’s dance, guys!” Ace urged and grabbed both Yuu and Deuce with him to the dance floor. Silver watch them mingle with the crowd before heading towards the bar where it’s a little quieter.
Hopping onto one of the stool, Silver is immediately greeted by the bartender, Hansel. “Argentum! Good to see you again. How have you been? Busy?” The man said brightly as he tucks away a shot glass. Behind him, Silver could see two girls handling the other patrons.
“Had to study for a test.” Silver said. He hid his identity whenever he sneaks out of Raven Night College in case Lilia or Malleus caught wind of his little late-night adventures. A small part of him knew that although Lilia wouldn’t mind him hanging out with his own group of friends, the old man would definitely put his foot down as soon as he mentioned Mystic Elixir.
It’s baffling how overprotective the old man can sometimes be. You’d think he’s old enough to make his own decisions.
There’s been a lot of shady events that happened in Mystic Elixir ever since its grand opening. Being one of the very few nightclubs with very few rules, anything can happen here. Agreements, truces and even death. Though Hansel enigmatically smiles and said nothing when Silver wanted to confirm the last rumour.
But despite the nightclub’s infamous reputation, Silver actually enjoyed it here. Watching all sort of creatures dance the night away and even chatting with some interesting strangers over a glass of Icy Polaris about this and that can be fun.
When Hansel slides him a shot of Poison Harbinger, Yuu sat on the vacant stool beside him. Like before, he made a poor attempt trying to hide his curious glances despite looking at the non-alcoholic section of the menu. So Silver decide to nip that in the bud.
“Do you like sweets?” He suddenly asks.
“Umm... I don’t really mind them, Silver-senpai.” Yuu said after some thoughts.
Silver nodded. “Then I suggest either a Dea’s Kiss mocktail or Priestess Lemonade.”
Yuu decides on the first suggestion, and one of the girls begin to prepare his order. “Has enough of dancing?” Silver asks after a sip of his drink.
“I was starting to get sweaty.” Yuu admits. “I’ve never been to a nightclub before. Not even in my... world.” He pauses and then, “Not unlike Silver-senpai.”
“This is my fourth time here, but I’m not much of a dancer. I’m just here for the drinks.” Silver said, raising his glass for emphasis. Hansel cheers.
“Still... even though I’m still new here, I always thought that Silver-senpai prefers a much more... quiet scene.” Yuu said with a tilt of his head.
Silver turns around to face the dancing crowd. Despite the writhing bodies, he could see Ace and Deuce without a problem. “I do enjoy hanging out with Lilia-san and the others. But I’m also a curious person. Just like your friend, I heard about this place and wanted to check it out and found myself experiencing something new.”
Hansel returns with Yuu’s order. He eyes the drink; inside the tall glass is a swirl of purple galaxy with sparkling black dots that oddly reminds her of onyx. A single red rose petal floats on the surface of the drink. The drink looks pretty rather than delicious, to be honest, but he takes a sip nonetheless. His eyes widen when a pleasant sweet taste burst on his tongue. It faintly tasted like blueberries and something else entirely.
“Does Lilia-san knows you’re here?” Yuu finally ask.
Ah, Silver was wondering when he would ask that. “No.” He said after the sweetness of his drink burns his throat. As long as he can remember, Silver’s world consists of Lilia and Malleus; they the ones who taught and raised him everything they knew. They watch him grow when they themselves don’t, and over time, Silver can feel the difference between them.
Don’t get him wrong; Silver dearly love them as his parents, and they in return treat him as theirs. It’s unconventional, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. But after enrolling to Night Raven College, Silver sees them not only as parental figures but also his senior students.
Awkward is an understatement whenever the other students witnessed Lilia teasing him like how a father would and Malleus would scoop a portion of his food to his plate during lunchtime in the cafeteria. It’s during those moments that Silver is grateful for Sebek’s presence and would gladly humour him whenever he’s upset with something.
Yuu said nothing and they enjoyed their drinks in silence. The topic then shifted to something lighter; about classes, magic and the difference between their world. Silver couldn’t comprehend a world without magic, and despite knowing nothing of their histories, Yuu grasps his explanation surprisingly quick.
It’s almost as if he’s heard of them before.
When midnight came and went, the First Year trio were beginning to wear out from dancing and the intense atmosphere. Around 2 in the morning, they decide to return home. Silver paid for their drinks much to the their protest, but Silver easily brush it off, claiming that since it’s their first time, it’s a treat from him.
As they made their way back to the back entrance of the nightclub, Yuu took one last glance at the dance floor behind him. Just like the moment they arrive, he sees a young man with short auburn hair with red tips and russet brown eyes stare at them from one of the private booth.
No, Yuu suddenly realises when the stranger turns his head slightly. Not them, but at Silver.

Apologies for any grammatical errors or spellings. It was 2AM when I was writing this. Hope I managed to get Silver right

Chapter Two: The Depths
“Do you think she eats kelp?” Remy kicks her feet back and forth, barely scuffing the floor each time as she swings them.
Kel glances at her flatly, “I don’t know.” He looks ready to put his head on the table and fall into a coma.
They sit in a large dark room surrounded by windows the size of trees to their left and plain plastic grey walls on the other side. The sky is black and almost starless beside them. “I mean, not kelp-kelp, but something like that, algae? There’s a lot of algae,” she holds five cards loosely in her hand and says.
“There is a lot of algae,” A distant, watery voice repeats, as if confirming some universal truth. The doctor reshuffles her cards as she stares off into nothing. “So much.”
Dr. Agatha was a petite woman with soft grey curls and deep wrinkles forming delicately around her mouth and eyes. She wore floral patterns that looked better suited to curtains and always had the air of someone lost at the grocery store.
She is their head scientist presently.
“Do you think she found her clothes at like, a Deadciv, can nylon last that long? It looked like nylon,” Remy says with a curious look on her face, “can you sew nylon?” Shang gives a disgruntled sigh and turns to her, “are you going to fold or not Remy?” Remy drags her eyes back to her cards, “oh, uh, nah, three chips in.” The table eyes each other apprehensively, “three?” She nods quickly, “you can all fold of course. I’m happy to just take home the pot now.” Shang rolls her eyes, “okay, she’s definitely bluffing.” Shang pushes his chips forward, “all in.” He gives her a victorious grin, as if it was already over.
Shang was a tall boy with jet-black hair and a mouth that quirked upward lightly whenever he spoke, he was technically the youngest crew here, but he didn’t show it. His clothes were always a sharp black and his eyes followed people’s faces like he was memorizing indiscernible mountains there.
Remy pushes the rest of her chips in too, “Do you think I could ask her about her shiny scale-freckles, is that rude?”
“Remy, I swear,” Shang looks like he might pop a vein.
Kel gives a smooth weary smile, “why don’t you go talk to her?” Remy shrugs, “it doesn’t exactly help that I’m still on probation.” Dr. Agatha chuckles, “your lab work is very helpful though.” “If only it wasn’t so boring,” she mumbles at the ceiling, “do you think she would ever talk me again?” “Can we stop talking about your fish-fiance? We aren’t even supposed to chit-chat with them,” Shang sits up straight and pushes his cards forward, “and I’m calling.” Remy sticks her tongue out at him, “fish-friend, better than a commander-crush.” “Shut up,” Shang almost growls.
“Anybody with a rank and suddenly it’s kiss-kiss, what can I get you?” She teases lightly, Shang turns away. “Five in a row crunchers!” Shang threw his hand down for the table for all to see. “A straight!” Kel frowns deeply and shows his three cards, “three fives.” “Boo,” Remy says as she bounces in her chair, she places her cards down, “four of a kind honey!” She whoops and threw her four tens down with a smack.
Shang pulls at his hair, “oh come on.” “Can’t take down the master,” Remy winks and starts doing her victory dance.
Dr. Agatha looks between all of them, a mystified look reflected in her round owl-eyes, she places her cards down one by one. Remy freezes mid booty-shake.
“Ah,” she whines.
Dr. Agatha nods, “deuces I think.” Remy hangs her head, “ah, come on.” She huffs and sits back down, “you were barely playing.” Remy pouts over her shoulder and Kel chuckles.
“I guess that’s a win,” the doctor pulls the chips towards herself and looks like she accidently walked into a studio and won a free car she didn’t know how to drive.
Kel starts collecting the cards again, “next round?” They all nod hesitantly, it was getting late, but their ‘Poker Crew’ was founded on the fact none of them were great sleepers.
Kel turns to Dr. Agatha, “though,” he hums deeply for a moment and pauses to study her, “you seem a little distracted doctor, anything wrong Aggie?” Remy cocks her head to the side curiously, she hadn’t actually noticed anything different about the doctor’s normal bird-trapped-in-a-warehouse behavior.
Dr. Agatha looks up and purses her lips, a dent forming in her brow.
“Well, first that nickname is definitely wrong,” she says astutely and adjusts her glasses, the table laughs softly and Dr. Agatha drums her fingers on the table. “But… well, it’s nothing much.” Shang puts his palms on the table forcefully, “what is it? I remember you didn’t even freak out when the lab was on fire last week.” “Oh, that was nothing.” Remy and Shang share a look.
Remy clears her throat, “is it the water filtration system? Jennison has been bugging the mechanics about it all month.” Dr. Agatha shakes her head, “no, I fixed that problem, any mico-toxins will now be thoroughly removed.” Shang blinks slowly, “were we drinking micro-toxins before?” “Don’t think about it too hard,” Remy mutters back.
Kel focuses on Dr. Agatha completely, his sunken eyes almost knife-sharp.
“What is it?” Kel asks slowly, “is it for the projects?”
Shang gulps, “is it the Planetsiders? I knew we needed to keep better track of their movements, I saw those blinking dots come close to The Observatory.” “It’s not that,” Dr. Agatha says loosely and Remy tries to catch her eye, try to discern something. Dr. Agatha frowns, “I’m missing vials of plant samples.” “Oh,” the whole table exhales and slumps down a little bit. Remy reaches for her cards. “Maybe check the last place you saw them?” She offers weakly. Dr. Agatha shakes her head, “they are The Shallows, near sector five. The trekker forgot to bring them back.” “Oh?” She had Remy’s interest again.
“Was it Steve?” Shang asks quickly, “it’s always freaking Steve.” “Hush,” Remy puts a hand in his face and Shang tries to snap at it.
“I don’t know,” Dr. Agatha says slowly, “they said there was some water bug anomaly I should see. I thought it would be quite interesting.” “Right, water bugs,” Remy sighs and looks at her two cards. A two and a four, nothing good. “Hit me.” She reaches for another card.
Kel was still watching quietly, “and then what?” He asks in a soft voice and Remy raises her eyebrows. Kel was always the observant one. There was something else.
Dr. Agatha takes a long second to respond.
She doesn’t so much as look up, but instead find the red angry scar marks on her hands very interesting. She plucks at the burn tissue and speaks into them, “when I mentioned it to Coronel Jennison… he said there was no reason to go fetch them.”
Kel’s eyes go a little wider and Remy senses Shang tense beside her, lowering his cards so he can look between them all. A stressed hush covers the table.
“What?” Remy finally asks and they all seem to be focused elsewhere, lost in their own thoughts. “Why should it matter if Jennison doesn’t want some vials back?” Dr. Agatha rearranges the cards in her hand again, “the Council… isn’t very happy with our results right now.” “Oh,” Remy blinks. “Oh, right.” Her stomach drops a little bit and she looks back at her cards, “Right. I fold.” She puts them back down.
Shang makes a face, “Already?” She just nods, “I better make this my last game.”  She snaps her fingers, trying to get the attention of the large lump snoozing in the corner near the dark windows. “Come here Delaware,” she calls softly, “let’s get back to my room before the Chiv’s spot you.” Delaware turns over, his large paws sticking up in the air before he pulls himself up and comes trotting over on his big Basset Hound feet, waiting patiently for Remy to rub his ears.
“You’re… turning in early?” Shang comments with a slight annoyed twitch to his eyebrow.
Remy stands up straight and turns to her compatriots, “yep,” she gives a little salute, “I’ll need all the sleep I can get if I’m going to get up early to go get Dr. Agatha’s samples tomorrow.” “Uh,” Shang squinted his eyes at her, “aren’t you on probation?” “Just from official missions!” She sings and Kel shakes his head at her.
“Remy,” he says in a warning tone.
“Don’t worry,” she turns before they can try and talk her out of it, “I’ll take the ship out and be back before Jennison can even get his slippers on.” She waves, “cadets get visiting passes to topside,” she shrugs, “I’ll just use mine now.” They all are still eyeing her, but Dr. Agatha hums deeply, “if you have time, I could use some more gray algae samples as well.” “Can do!” She started to run off with her dog at her heels, Kel is mumbling something about not being paid enough to watch kids and something about reckless abandon.
But at least she knew none of them would turn her in. She gets ready to sneak out in the morning.
-----------------
Remy rubs the crusty gook of sleep out of her eyes and yawns widely, her limbs are rocks attached to her body and her eyelids tug back down. Five hours was not enough. But the train would have to leave the station whether she was well-rested or not. She wipes blurrily at her eyes again and teeters down the second bay corridor.
She turns the corner and her mood instantly drops as she sees a figure standing in front of the bathrooms, Remy internally groans.
“Tara,” she says bitterly and tries to shuffle forward with a nod, “morning.”
Tara was the other cadet on the mission, a certified pilot and trekker that made most everything her business. She was at least a head taller than Remy and had fluffy orange hair that tied back in a ponytail at her back.
Her expression is a remote mask that reminds Remy more of a cold stone wall that actively tried to crash into visitors. Tara doesn’t exactly look at her as she approaches.
Remy tries to slip past the stalk-still girl and make her way into the lavatory, unfortunately for her, Tara had other plans. The other cadet steps in her way.
“Yes,” she says in her flat tone, a smarmy smile filling her face, “morning to you too.”
Remy’s shoulders fall, “isn’t it a little early for you to be Medusa-ing the bathroom?” She makes a face, “some of us need to pee.” Tara shakes her head, “waking up at dawn for once are we?” Tara says slowly and her gaze seems to smack Remy in the face as she examines her.
Remy just nods stiffly, “out for a morning stroll.” She says cautiously and Tara rolls her eyes.
“You can’t just… go on a trekking mission by yourself,” Tara says hotly and crosses her arms over her chest, “it’s ridiculous.” “Were you spying on the monitors again?” Remy puts her hands on her hips, “So uncool.” Tara wags a finger in the air, “it’s against regulation to open the hanger without permission.” Remy scrunches her face up, “I do have hanger permission,” she tries to side step her, “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to piss- which I also have regulation permission for.” Tara was being extra difficult this morning and thrusts her arm out to block Remy’s path, “it’s not like it matters you know.” Remy sniffs loudly, “Dr. Agatha needs the samples.” Tara’s eyes go cool and remote, “you really stuff that much cotton in your ears? It. Won’t. Matter. The Council has already made up their mind.” Remy clenches her fists and finally ducks under Tara’s arm, managing to open the lavatory door and turn toward her, “stuff it Tara. Some of us are going to actually do our jobs.” “I’m telling Jennison about this!” She sings loudly and Remy ignores her.
“You do that.”
Remy’s blood was boiling by the time she furiously started to brush her teeth, the poor enamel probably scrubbed clean off as she rapidly got ready for the day. “Doesn’t matter,” she mutters and gargles some water, “already over.” She angrily spit and imagines Tara’s face when she finally meets the whales. That would shut her up, hopefully sooner rather than later.
--------------------------
Remy gives Kel the thumbs up as he enters the hanger control room, he normally wouldn’t go to all this trouble- he liked his sleep and also liked to be in the Observatory’s good graces. Remy has a feeling he’s getting ancy too though.
She bounces around the hanger, picking between different models: the sleek 144-J with it’s speed and agility, the military grade bomber I-22 with it’s fierce density, or even the long-haul ship, Hv-88. The ship for napping in when you didn’t want to be found.
Eventually she just settles on the faithful Wb-77 as Kel bangs on the glass to tell her to hurry up. She jumps into the cockpit and gives him another wild grin as she secures her helmet.
He just presses the gate button and they both watch the thick doors below glide open with an impressive gust of air. Remy holds her breath, she always held her breath at those moments- the moment between falling and flying.
The engine hums and Remy’s fingers dance over the controls, Kel yells something nonsensical at her and she just waves. The horizon calls her as she guns her thrusters into the pale blue skies and takes off.
She whoops into the rising sun, there was nothing else like this.
Remy is still grinning throughout her twenty minute flight to The Shallows, it was a very pleasant day after all and most of the Observatory wasn’t even awake yet. The weather remains a lovely blue when she arrives at the the sandy banks of sandbars.
The samples had luckily been left in a secure box floating next to one of the many metal poles that stuck out.
Remy collects it quickly and surveys the surrounding area, it was as empty as a blank page, not even a Planetsider ship for miles. And for once that was a bad thing.
Remy takes a deep breath, she knew what she needed to do.
She streaks off across the deeper ocean, scanning and raking the waters with her eyes for any signs. The best sign would be a giant shadow underneath the waves, but she would take anything at this point.
Remy’s nerves are almost fried when she spots it, her entire body relaxing as she sees another living being- and just the one she wanted to see too.
She maneuvers a turn near the Deadciv building, gliding carefully around the area- right where she had met the girl before, Remy’s heart leaps. This had to be her sign.
She gently lands the plane a little ways from the ruins and covers herself in protective jelly from head to foot, she had brought her swimming gear just in case. It feels tingly and a little heavy as the adhesive drys.
Remy quickly finishes and makes her way over to the tops of the tall decaying buildings and starts waving furiously, it’s only a little disappointing when she sees no one there.
“Dang it,” she swivels around in all directions, looking left and right for any signs of life. She is cursing and splashing in the water when she turns and faces a sharp spear pointed in her face.
“Are you following me?” The girl, Callisto, had found her after all.
Remy’s eyes light up, “I knew I would find you again!”
Callisto’s lips curl back, “What do you want? I don’t need stalkers.” Remy frowns slowly, “not stalking! Just… finding. Again.” Callisto lowers her spear slowly, eyes still shifty and narrowed, “I was hoping you had a little more common sense than that.” Remy tries to give a winning smile, “me?” She chuckles, “never.” Callisto’s face seems to soften, “I haven’t seen your sea monster or anything if that’s what you’re looking for. I told you before, there isn’t anything here.” Remy snorts, she adjusts her helmet, “it’s a bit of a different venture this time.” She mutters, “are you hunting?” Callisto holds her long sapphire spear up, “yes. And you really aren’t helping.”
Remy swims a little closer to her, “I was actually hoping we’d meet again. Maybe we could help each other!”
Callisto makes a face at her, “I don’t need any… body gunk, or whatever it is you’re wearing.” “Protective jelly! It’s water based,” she sings happily, “and I was thinking of something a little more practical.” Callisto tilts her head to the side, she turns around, “one second.” Callisto starts swimming and climbs onto one of the Deadciv roofs so she can stand up, Remy follows after.
Remy struggles to her feet and realizes how much taller Callisto is then her, she shifts from foot to foot.
“I’m listening,” Callisto says slowly, “but I’ll have you know it’ll have to be good. I don’t go around making deals with Deserters often, it’s…. Dangerous. You must know that.” Remy hums at that and tucks that bit of information away, she grins, “yeah, but I don’t follow the rules, I make ‘em!”
“Okay?” “Yeah,” Remy itches her wrist nervously, “or uh, play with them. Just a little bit.” Callisto shakes her head, “and all to find some giant sea-beasts? There are easier ways to get eaten.” Remy lifts her chin, “whales eat krill! Isn’t that great? They don’t eat people, though I’m sure they could swallow you whole if you’re not careful.” “Alright?” Callisto was still looking at her like Remy was attempting to grow a second head. “Listen, little Deserter-” “You really can call me Remy.” Callisto gives a shallow smile, “You don’t want to meet most things down there, whether they eat ‘krill’ or not.” Remy perks up, eyes going wide, “have you seen living things down there then?”
Callisto rubs the back of her neck, “it’s not like it’s empty. But it’s not friendly either.” Remy dives to grab Callisto’s arm and shake it, “take me!” She begs, “I have my camera, my gear, it’s still only morning.” Callisto’s face screws up into a scowl, “why would I take a stranger to the most dangerous place in the ocean?” Remy sets her jaw, “I’ll trade you, like I said, we can help each other.” Callisto eyes her thoroughly for a moment, “what will you do with the creature?” “Just take a picture,” she snorts, “we don’t have to fight it or anything.” “We would lose anyway,” Callisto says off-handedly, “and these aren’t ‘whales’ though, none of them sing. They’re...” She shivers, “different.”
Remy gulps but lifts her head up, “I’m willing to take the risk, they don’t need to be whales, they just need to be… big,” she looks closely at Callisto, “I just need a guide.” Callisto meets her gaze, “what do you have to offer?” Remy taps her chin, “Money?” “No.”
“Seeds.” “Nope.”
“Tech.” “What kind?” “Water purifiers, air purifiers, hand-held blasters-” “We have those,” Callisto says in exasperation.
“Uh, fresh water?” “Don’t need it.” “Salt water?” She raises her eyebrows, “really don’t need it.” “Labor.” “No.” “Other, kinds of labor?” Remy tries to strike a sexy pose.
“Definitely not.” Callisto just shakes her head and looks ready to take off again, Remy puts her hands up. “Meat,” She says loudly, “dried fruit, medicine, proteins.” Callisto stops in place, her lips tugging down and her large dark eyes turning back to Remy, she looks her up and down, “what kind of medicine?” Remy exhales slowly, “any kind. Shots, penicillin, pain killers, uh,… band aids.” Callisto’s eyes shrink down, “can grunts get access to that sort of thing?” “I’m not a grunt,” she says defensively, “and yes. I have free reign of the medical bay. And I can also get,” she strikes a pose, “sneaky.” Callisto has an almost-smile, “well,” She says loudly, “I do need Xanim. It will be a clear liquid in a large vial, get me at least three.” Remy pumps her fist in the air, “alright!” She doesn’t mention the fact she doesn’t know where or what that is. She figures that’s a problem for her future self.
Callisto straightens her back, “right. I’ll meet you tomorrow at-” “Wait,” Remy focuses on her, “we need to do it today. Now.” Callisto looms over her, “you don’t have the medicine now.” “It’s a promise though,” Remy says quickly, “a huge promise, and you can take like, my shoe as hostage until I get it to you. We just…” She bites her bottom lip, “really need to do it today.” Something wasn’t smelling right at the Observatory, Remy knew she needed data, evidence, and she needed it now.
Callisto seems to consider her for a long, long second, her gaze curving over Remy’s small frame, her choppy brown hair and tight ponytail, the Jelly covering every inch of her body. Remy stiffens slightly.
Callisto lifts her chin up, pushing her long braided hair back, “I want the most expensive thing on your ship. You’ll get it back when you give me the Xanim.” “So you’ll take me?” Remy’s eyes sparkle. Callisto shifts in place, “I make no promises of finding anything.” Remy gives a wide, pleased smile, “no guarantees necessary, just take me to where you’ve seen them before,” she reaches for her camera, “I’ll do the rest.” Callisto shakes her head, “crazy Deserter madness.” Remy just laughs at that, Callisto looks over her shoulder, “you really want to go?” Remy nods enthusiastically, “as soon as possible.” She was technically running on a limited amount of time, Jennison would only tolerate an ‘unofficial mission’ for so long.
Callisto turns toward the dark waters, “follow my rules then. One, I lead. Stop when I stop, go when I go and don’t touch the buildings. Not all of them are sound. Two don’t make a sound, in and out. Three, don’t… flail around, if you see danger, stay still.” She blinks, “and Remy?” “Yeah?” “Don’t get eaten,” she says in her deep grey voice, “I’ll do the rest.” Remy shivers a little bit, if her mother could see her now, making deals with Planetsiders, she would never hear the end of it. Good thing her mom wasn’t there.
She doesn’t have a moment to collect herself as Callisto quickly dives into the dark with a small ripple. Remy jumps in after her with a much bigger splash, the world descends into a thick choppy bleakness.
Lost buildings stand on either side of them and pale streaks of light filter in the water all around them, Remy adjusts her helmet settings so the glass doesn’t steam up. The water is thick with clouds of dank water here and there, but still mixed with patches of clearness.
Remy can’t help but staring: crumbling dark buildings on all sides of her and a profound stillness. Most had large empty windows and concrete walls that were falling into themselves.
Tiny fish glimmer here and there, Remy is sure there must be bigger ones somewhere for Callisto to hunt, but there was nothing now.
She feels a tug on her leg and Remy remembers that she has someone to follow, she quickly turns on her shoulder light and Callisto points toward their feet. Remy turns herself around and starts swimming,
Down, down, down. They sink slowly, using the currents to swim toward the darkness below.
Callisto makes several corrections as they go, leading her first straight toward another tall building and then right and down again, Remy has no idea what this does.
It’s quiet and eery, it helped not being alone down here at least. She focuses on the back of Callisto’s head as the minutes tick by, memorizing the shape of her outline, the sleek limbs cutting effortlessly through the water and long floating hair.
Remy’s heavy air tank helped her sink into the depths, though she wandered how Callisto descended so easily, a swim bladder? Was she denser than other people? Force of will? These questions would have to wait.
The light starts to disappear as they swim against the currents, slowly dropping toward the ocean floor, Remy’s ears begin to pop and she hopes she thought this through enough.
Remy gulps as Callisto drops directly down into the complete darkness. The other girl looks over her shoulder to make sure she’s following and Remy hurries after her, she can just make out that the other girl’s irises then. They are the size of quarters, large and unearthly.
The pamphlets from her schools awareness program comes back to her: No longer human.
Remy pushes that thought away and tells herself to quiet down, she had things to do, she takes a deep inhale of oxygen and lets herself be consumed.
There is more rubble down here, piles of discarded concrete and jagged metal poles sticking up from nowhere, Remy dodges them and keeps her shoulder lamp pointed at Callisto’s back. They were still nowhere near the bottom it seemed.
Remy purses her lips as a thrum of unease goes through her system, she tries to remind herself why she is there: the project, the project, the project. You can’t find whales if there’s no project.
That doesn’t stop the hairs on the back of her neck from standing on end. Nothing is ahead but darkness and the glare of her own flashlight.
She’s staring off at a distant rubble pile when she runs headlong into the back of Callisto, bumping softly into her and being jostled backward for a second. She opens her mouth to ask what gives but then remembers she’s not supposed to make a sound.
Callisto turns to her slowly, eyes sharp and huge in the glare of her flashlight. She mouths something, her lips moving silently to form indiscernible words.
Remy puts her palms up and shrugs at her, she tries to mouth something back, such as ‘what?’ and ‘huh?’
And then she sees it. Something in the bleakness ahead, a sparkle of light just in front of them.
Remy’s eyes go wide, she reaches for her camera around her neck, Callisto dives over and grabs her, shaking her head violently, Remy struggles away. This is what she came for.
Callisto in turn tries to cover Remy’s shoulder lamp with her hands and the world descends into an absolute darkness- all except the oscillating sparkle of light in front of them. Remy’s eyes go wide and she can’t tell if she’s breathing anymore.
Callisto pushes them back, slowly, easily, but Remy knows, she knows something is over there- and she can’t go back now. She lunges forward faster than Callisto can catch her, Remy dodges left and wrenches her shoulder light away from Callisto’s outstretched hands.
The light blares ahead and Remy lifts her camera up as fast as she can, she doesn’t click. The sparkle is a light blue, forming a long electric ribbon in the inky darkness around it, Remy can make out that they are aligned against a long, sleek body, immense and shimmering.
Against her better judgement, Remy pauses to grin, something lived here, something lived! Ancient, bright, larger than a minnow, something colorful and powerful in her flies up from her center toward the sun. It lived. And then the creature turns.
Remy didn’t know about nightmares, she always was the kid that jumped off monkey bars and begged to be told ghost stories at midnight. Remy wasn’t sure what she was seeing now, something primal heaves in her.
It’s face was as big as she was, spiked and covered in flaking scales. It had two sightless white eyes placed against a blunt forehead and misshapen jaw, all leading to a mouth that took up everything else. Rows of teeth stuck up out of its bottom jaw, caught in the gleam of her single headlight.
Remy doesn’t have a moment to scream, the creature’s body lights up, glowing in the dark and tensing to lunge. Remy clicks her camera.
This would have been the moment she felt the teeth dig into soft, puny body and break it in two, the last thing she ever sees. Instead, she feels an arm loop around her chest and violently yank her back and behind a rubble pile.
“Ah!” Remy manages a yelp and tries to take another blurry picture as the thing bobs after them, turning quickly and letting off an electric glow.
Callisto makes some deep sound in her chest, rumbling and fearful. Her whole body clenches and then she’s propeling them off the rock pile, lifting them high into the waters and ‘up.’
Callisto reaches over to wrangle with Remy’s shoulder light and tear it off, but Remy slaps her hand away.
“One more picture!” She gasps, “they have to see how big it is.”
Callisto yells something back and rows of teeth come gasping toward their feet up from nothing, long jagged tendrils ready to rip them apart.
Remy reacts quicker, she yanks at the long spear in Callisto’s belt and jams it forward. The shark-electric creature crashes its nose into the pointy end and a burst of thick blood fills the water.
Remy manages to wrench the light off her shoulder then and drop it. They creature turns and follows the bright glare, it’s powerful tail whipping around to jerk it toward the moving target.
Remy exhales, nothing is left. They are left with a quiet darkness- Callisto holding her around the chest as they fled. The spear and light disappear below them like a dream.
Callisto rises like a hot air balloon (swim bladder?). Remy is light-headed and every part of her is heavy and tense, the adrenaline pumping freely in every vein she had.
She checks on her oxygen tank and then has a sense of utmost relief when she sees the inkling of light up above, she was clutching her camera in her hands. She had made it.
Remy is shaking from head to toe when they burst up into the midday light and gasp for air, Remy collapsing onto the rooftop and Callisto giving a hacking cough. Her legs are boneless jelly underneath her as she tries to stand.
They both take a moment to collect themselves, Remy raking her hands over her helmet.
“Heheh,” she starts laughing, her mouth falling open and a rumbling, manic laughter bubbling up from her center. She rips her helmet off and spits her oxygen mouthpiece out. “Oh my God!” She laughs again and opens her arms wide to the sun, “Oh my fucking God.” She tries to stand up again and fails, spinning around on her knees and praying to some unknown force that protects idiots and sea-dwellers. She whoops, “Callisto!” She calls, “Callisto, Callisto, fuck.” Callisto was covering her face and holding her side, breathing heavily, “you, you,” she heaves and her face jerks up, “you crazy bastard! I should kick your ass.”
Remy laughs again and falls over, “True!” She spreads her arms out wide, “Crazy enough to save the projects though!” She crows, “and you,” she points, “you saved my life.” Callisto growls, “not on purpose.” Remy pushes her sweaty hair back, “you are going to get so much medicine.” Callisto blinks a couple times, “You’re lucky I’m too tired to drop kick you off into The Salts, did you even try listening to me?” Remy sheepishly scratches her nose, “we’re alive?” Callisto shakes her head, she wobbles over toward her and bops her on the head with her knuckles.
“Ow!”
“Crazy bastard,” she mutters, “you’re lucky I’m faster than death himself.” Remy blinks a couple times as she covers her head, “cocky much?” Callisto snorts, “grateful much?”
“Right, okay, I can kiss your toes or something,” she tilts her head up, “thanks. Yeah, thank you.” She flexes, “We made it! Alive and everything.” Callisto exhales slowly, “I’d keep it that way,” she grey eyes go hard, “You got what you’re looking for, you shouldn’t come back.” Callisto blinks a couple times, “but… I will be back? That’s the whole point.” She lifts herself up into the light, “so we can return to the earth.” Callisto’s eyebrow twitches and she seems to clench her fists, she opens her mouth and then closes it. She looks away, “you should get out of here.” She rasps heavily.
“Can’t I give you a hug or something?” Remy smiles, “I can’t believe we made it-” “Get. Out.” Callisto takes a menacing step forward, “or I’ll take your camera.” Remy frowns deeply, “hey, we’re in this together.” She tries to say lightly, “we just fought death himself, remember? And… it will be good. After this.” Callisto growls, “so you can all come back here muck it up again? So you can take our water and food? Get the fuck out of here.” Remy takes a step back, “We’re not like that, it’ll be different this time.” Callisto jabs a finger in the air, “Go. Get your silly dreams crushed somewhere else.” She scowls and spits at Remy’s feet, “no good deserter in the first place.” Remy scrambles away from her fury and hits the ‘Summon’ button her helmet the whirrs the engine alive on her plane. She scowls, “Jeez, stuff you too.”
Callisto’s angry eyes follow her as she backs up and jams her helmet back on, fleeing the scene before Callisto changes her mind about saving her. Remy doesn’t look back this time and swallows her bitterness.
It would be different after this, she would make sure of it- even if Callisto couldn’t see that now.
She takes off back to the white pillar in the distance with a round sphere on top, back to the Observatory and the future she would make herself.
