She had been running through the woods too fast to properly see anything, so of course Emma's first reaction to a human figure had been to lift her sword ready to strike, but she was trained better than to hit blindly; she jumped back and lifted her hands in surrender to show she meant no harm: "Sorry, sorry! Thought you were another bandit!" //more a starter than ask, but for Ben!
@smiletimeisrunningout
'Oh, I won't be hiding,' Tallmadge boldly told himself.
Tumblr media
As with most of his exceedingly pretentious words, it was a lie. Granted, a well-placed lie, one he could sell to most he happened upon, but he couldn't lie to the fair-haired woman before him. It wasn't even on purpose! He was caught out in the woods, separated from Agent 725 Caleb Brewster, and the rest was ill-fated circumstances. Caught in the woods, alone, on the run.
Had his crisis and struggle truly afforded no mercy? Was his life fated to amount to nothing? Had Robert Rogers, Simcoe and the rest of the scum of Queen's rangers caught up with him?
He would not make a very good spymaster or even spy, had he no semblance of discretion or 'hiding.' At least, for all his many shortcomings, he could attest to being better at hiding than Agent 722, Abraham Woodhull.
Tallmadge didn't like hiding, he found such a thing humiliating, even so, he could sacrifice his ego, if it meant not crossing some grand mortal divide. But at least he was alive, and thus far, out of danger.
Tumblr media
Now, it seems, he's only made a fool of himself. No pistol, or sabre. But he has a codebook and an alias and the wagging tongue of a well-intentioned liar, not just any liar as well, but a Yale graduate, class of 1773.
He takes a few polite steps back. "Forgive me, madam, I didn't see you," he said, thus far speaking true. "John Bolton," he said. He isn't giving his real name, not here, and not under such potentially dangerous circumstances. "No, madam, not a bandit, though, the English possess the nerve to call us... ruffians. Well, some snakes possess venomous bites. I think they'd do well to tread lightly upon us. But no, not a bandit, perhaps worse... it depends on who you ask."

Thirty-sixth day
In shadows deep, where sins unfold, I thought myself the vilest story told A liar, thief, a murderer in kind, Killing love, letting hatred bind I've walked a path of darkest hues, Embraced sins the world eschews Yet in this purgatory, a twisted verse, I morph into something even worse A descent into shadows, a soul's decay, I thought I'd seen the darkest day But in this realm where torment persists, I become a manifestation of unholy twists ~ One Hundred Days of Purgatory

June 26: Murphy, Devil
Murphy, with some Murphy/Emori, Southern Gothic 'verse, ~800 words
This sounded waaaaay better in my head I don't even know.
*
All his life, John Murphy has been a liar and a thief. He was born with these traits. Some talents are simply transmitted through the blood.
His father was an upstanding gentleman, who did some quite terrible things for the good of his family. He used to sneak pills under the counter from the pharmacy where he worked. Some were for his son, who needed them—a sickly boy he was then. The rest he sold. They needed that money, too. Later, he died in prison, of a disease John didn't know he had. His widow drank herself to death slowly. As John grew, she decayed. He observed it all, that morbid disintegration of living flesh, the sickly stench of booze and rot all through the house.
He's told the story a hundred times by now: for sympathy, as explanation. A sob story, a distraction, a moral tale. An exemplar: what life is like in the ditches of Arkadia, the parts of town the rest of them would like to forget. A shrug of his shoulders, spitting into the dirt. Why he is the way he is.
The truth is he was always the boy who started fires when no one was looking. The boy no one could trust in his quiet or his solitude. He flashed the sun through a magnifying glass, sparked fires in the dirt. Stole his father's lighter. His cigarettes too. A spark of flame he held there beneath his thumb, and smoke in his mouth. He liked to pocket candy and bubble gum from the dollar store and the grocery. He'd practice his lines to himself as he walked through the aisles, in case he got caught: ah hell I didn't mean it. How'd that get there? I meant to pay for it, I swear.
Almost a pity that he never was. He ate the candy brazenly, popped bubbles on the sidewalk—wondered who he would tell if he could.
His father was in prison but not yet dead when Murphy stared high school and met her. Emori, from the back row of Algebra, who drew geometric patterns on her binder all through quadratic equations; he'd watch the hard, persistent scribble of her pen and trace the slick twists and turns of the single, small braid she wore at the side of her head, and he didn't learn a single thing, and he didn't care. She was from a town even smaller than Arkadia, a town not even big enough for a high school. He thought at first she might have been home schooled. She held herself apart in a certain way, hard to pin down, had a steady and unblinking stare that unnerved all of the other kids, and made Murphy's heart beat harder in his chest.
They taught each other how to pickpocket, the exhilaration of a hand slipped into a warm and forbidden space, and how to recognize, from the viewpoint of a mark, the sly, quick movement of it. How to stay attuned to every hair on your arms and on the back of your neck. Got pretty good at it—though she was always better. But more than anything, they excelled at the grift.
She was a born liar, just like him. A woman of talented lips and tongue.
They had an idea they'd drop out of school and take to the road, hitchhikers who specialized in grand theft auto. Somewhere out west, the hills disappear and the roads even out, and even the sky pulls up and stretches wide; somewhere out there was infinity, or maybe even paradise, or God.
Maybe they would have tried it, too, if it weren't for Bellamy Blake.
Murphy thought he was just a church charity case. Another hard luck soul, swept up in the sermons or the need for salvation. An easy mark. Then somehow, Murphy found himself with his back up against the cold brick of the school building, Bellamy's forearm lodged against his throat, and for the rest of his days, he never figured out quite how that son of a bitch did it—even less how he got Emori's knife from her in the same movement. Left her there adrift in the shadows of the high school, more shadows than sun that day, and the wind frigid and biting. For a second, he'd seen real fear on her face. And he'd felt it in himself too, a frisson, an electric shock—perhaps the most thrilling feeling of his life. He'd smiled a sick, bitter smile. He was a liar and a thief and he knew a kindred spirit when he saw one, and he knew that Bellamy was something worse, something more powerful and rarer still.
Something more dangerous still.
Right away, he was ready to follow him anywhere.

my Fallout characters at the moment are:
-Lucy (who is good and kinda naive at times but will kill you or bite your fingers off if she has to), open to all Fallout characters I find doable for her to interact with (listen, she'll ditch you if you are not good or neutral and she's not forced to be around you - and if she's forced it has to be temporary and plotted, they can't be hostile forever. The Ghoul is an exception because there are plenty canon reasons for them to stick together) -my oc Emma on smiletimeisrunningout who has a big modern/sci-fi verse with a Fallout variation, who has a terrible reputation and hunts down bad guys vigilante-style (but is actually a sweetheart who is affectionate and a bit of a flirt and started off as The Hero, but that's always just being one step away from beating people up in a dark alley), open to characters who I think would work well with her, exactly the same as Lucy -my AU grown up Janey "Coop" Howard with her own 'here's what happened' who still remembers how life was supposed to be before the bombing and is very very pissed off at life (and by the way if we write threads with her and Lucy isn't there, I can write Lucy as a part of it, to recognize her as Janey Howard. Mostly open to the Ghoul, Lucy and Maximus with a few more plotted main characters. -my oc Stella who is a conwoman/thief and would love to mind her business but ends up giving bottlecaps to people in need and conning powerful bad guys out of business, the perfect Liar (as in 100000 charisma points but too lazy and greedy to do anything else with it), probably mostly opened to mains because I feel like given her personality the only way to make sure she'd interact with others is for me to control how they meet and I don't like forcing people into plots

DAILY DUA
Dua and remembrance before sleeping #2
Translation
Abu Huraira said, "The messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put me in charge of the Zakat of Ramadan (i.e. Zakat-ul-Fitr). Someone came to me and started scooping some of the foodstuff of (Zakat) with both hands. I caught him and told him that I would take him to Allah's messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." Then he (Abu Huraira) told the whole narration and added , He (i.e. the thief) said,, “When you are about to sleep recite ayat-al-kursee (The verse of the foot-stool, Surah Baqarah 2:255) till the end of the verse for there will remain over you a protection from Allah and no devil will draw near to you until the morning.”, the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) (upon hearing this) said: "He (i.e. the theif) told the truth even though he is a habitual liar, he was a shaytan"
Allâh! Lâ ilâha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth.
Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission. He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills.
His Kursee extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
N.B. This verse is famously known as "Ayat Alkursee/Alkursi" or "the Verse of The Footstool"

Worldbuilding: The Struggles of Peace
Wars are big. Wars are colorful. Wars are Dramatic; at least as Hollywood does them.
War is also pretty much the default state of human beings, as far back as we can check. Yes, humans have instincts to be kind, altruistic, and caring... to others in our in-group. Those outside the group are either ignored, or targets.
Peace, on the other hand, is neither natural nor easy. Peace takes hard work, determination, and the occasional cracking of a non-peaceful skull. And it all has to be done in a way the majority of people involved can live with, or it all frays at the seams.
War and action type stories are interesting in part because you get to show how far characters can go and still be good people. Peacetime stories are interesting because your characters have to work within limits.
It’s like poetry. Free verse can be expressive, rhythmic, and powerful. But I’ve always appreciated the skill involved in expressing yourself in a tanka, sonnet, or ballad. When you have a set of rules, you have to be creative!
You also have to know which set of rules your characters are working under. Often there are several. Written laws? Professional codes of ethics? Social rules? Family customs? A lot of tension can come from a character deciding he’s going to have to break some rules to solve the problem, and he has to decide which rules can be broken, which can’t, and what price he’s willing to pay.
This is a big thing in a lot of works in Regency or Victorian settings. There are people you can talk to, people you must not, and certain subjects that absolutely Cannot Be Discussed Ever.
Except that realistically speaking they have to be discussed at some point. Hopefully before someone dies. And then social fallout ensues.
I used Regency and Victorian because those are familiar to a lot of readers, but honestly, up until fairly modern times, strict social rules about who could freely communicate with whom were common most places. And the unwritten rules you had to follow to avoid a breath of scandal or be ruined - meaning eventually dead, from lack of support or work....
There’s a neat example of “working within the rules to keep peace” in the first episode of Season 2 of Zenigata Heiji (see the Samurai vs. Ninja channel). Long story short, a ring of thieves figured out ways to implicate respectable shops in crimes. Meaning even when the police know who and where they are and could catch them... if the gang goes to trial and any implications come out, the businesses involved will be devastated. Leading to most of the families and employees being condemned to starvation or suicide.
If only, muse Heiji and his boss, there were a legal way to catch the gang without the case going to trial....
(It’s risky, but yes. There is.)
And if you want to see the effort needed to keep as much possible peace in a society at war, I recommend the series Foyle’s War. An inspector trying to solve murders and bring criminals to justice in WWII England has a heck of a job on his hands.
One episode ends with a murderer taunting Foyle, and... well. Here’s from Wikiquote.
Howard Paige: You sound like a sore loser. You know what the French say? "C'est la guerre."
Foyle: Precisely, Mr. Paige. "It's the war." And no war has lasted forever, and neither will this one. A year, maybe ten, but it will end. And when it does, Mr. Paige, you will still be a thief, a liar, and a murderer, and I will not have forgotten. And wherever you are, I will find you. You're not escaping justice, merely postponing it. Au revoir.
Stories with action are good. Stories with justice, even if it can’t be today - those take a skilled touch.
What kind of rules do you want your characters to break? What do you want them to uphold at all costs?

7/14/2023 DAB Transcript
1 Chron 16:37-18:17, Romans 2:1-24, Psalm 10:16-18, Proverbs 19:8-9
Today is the 14th day of July, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian and it is great to be here with you today and every day, as we gather, and step forward in the Scriptures and in our year that we spent each and every day, step-by-step, day-by-day together. And what a joy and a privilege and an honor that it is for us to be here around the Global Campfire today. And let's take that next step forward. We are, we have been and are working our way through the book of First Chronicles in the Old Testament. Today, we will read chapters 16 verse 37 through 18 verse 17.
Commentary:
Okay so, we are a couple of days into our journey through the letter to the Romans, written by the Apostle Paul. So, we got through the introduction, and Paul began laying out this argument that God has revealed Himself and that everybody is without excuse. All you have to do is look around. Today, we got a little bit of a taste of Paul's general tone. He’s very direct but he's choosing to directly engage with a very serious problem among his people. A problem that is keeping them from seeing what God is doing among them, and the problem is hypocrisy. Paul said that basically that, to condemn somebody else for the same questionable things that you are participating in, isn't going anywhere, it's hypocrisy. Or quoting from the Apostle Paul, “if you judge those who do these kinds of things while you do the same things yourself, think about this, do you believe that you will escape God's judgment.” But here's the thing that we need to get to know about Paul because a lot of time’s people read Paul and feel like it's very shaming or condemning. That's not what Paul's objective is, his objective is to name something that is very destructive to the community as he moves through the process that's in this letter of revealing Jesus. But if we already think we know all there is to know about God, than there's nothing else to learn. So, we think that we've got it all together and Paul is stepping into this. Paul was a devout Jew, a very, highly educated Pharisee. He was speaking to devout people of the Jewish faith, and he wasn't talking about things that he had only heard about, or that he had heard rumors about. He was talking about things that he understood very clearly because he had practiced these things devoutly. And so, he's is calling out this hypocrisy because it blinds the people. And it's not like it's not still going on, right friends. Like, it's not like we can't find hypocrisy in the world. And it's certainly not as if we can't find hypocrisy among our fellow brothers and sisters of the Christian faith. And it's not as if we can't find hypocrisy in our own lives. How many times have we found ourselves judging or condemning, whether with our words or actions, or whether we’re just doing it in our minds, condemning and judging people for things that we've done. So, putting it back into Paul's words, if you have persuaded yourself that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, an educator of the foolish, a teacher of infants, then why don't you who are teaching others teach yourself, right. If we’re going to condemn stealing then we shouldn’t be a thief, even, occasionally. Like, if we’re going to condemn adultery, then we shouldn't be an adulterer, even occasionally. If we’re gonna condemn lying, then we shouldn’t be a liar. Like, whatever we shouldn't be doing what we’re condemning. We’re judging others for what we do, thereby proving that we know right from wrong. We know what is right and wrong and we’re judging it and participating in it in the dark, it's hypocrisy. Paul is calling it out and he's calling it out among people who know the Scriptures and think that they, because they know the Scriptures, they know God and they know everything God will and will not do. Paul is building this argument that you might know the Scriptures, but you are not obeying them. Or putting it back in Paul's words, “if you brag about the law, do you shame God by breaking the law. As it is written, the name of God is discredited by the Gentiles because of you.” And that's, that’s where, that's where we end our reading today, but that's where Paul was leading us to, talking to these devout Jews who judge others repeatedly for things that they themselves are participating in, which discredits the message, which discredits God. Paul is very convinced, at this point, that God has invited the, like he has invited everyone through faith in Jesus to become a part of God's family, Jew and Gentile alike. And Paul is telling his fellow Hebrews, you are discrediting God and causing the Gentiles to stay away from God by your hypocrisy. This should be convicting to us as we examine our own lives, because the same thing can happen. Our hypocrisy can turn people completely away from God by looking at our lives and going well if that's what we’re talking about here, if that's what this is all about, I don’t want anything to do with that. And in our culture right now, stereotyping is like just labeling things and giving them a label so that we can be against them and dismiss them is prevalent in our culture and so much of this is rooted in our hypocrisy. Paul is in the first century speaking about the hypocrisy of the Jewish leaders and the fact that it pushes people away from God. But it's not really any different now. And Christians, throughout our church history, have been labeled and stereotyped and persecuted mercilessly. And it seems to be a lingering tension and fear in our faith that we’re worried that that can happen again. And so, we want to do everything that we can to make that not happen again. So, we very easily build ourselves an enemy that we have to try to fight against and destroy, and we end up wandering into things that are not Christ-like. And yet it's pretty clear what Paul's laying out here is that there is something to do and the thing to do is practice what you preach. And so, may we consider that today, may we even catch ourselves today when our actions and our convictions are not in alignment, because that's a very tense place to live, that's a very hard place to be. We can normalize it and get used to things, but it's a tough place to be wouldn't what you truly believe and what you are actually doing are not in alignment with each other. So, let's invite the Holy Spirit today to reveal these places where we cast judgment and shade on people for the very things that we ourselves have been guilty of doing.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, we invite You into that. We know like we are all guilty, we all know what we’re talking about here. The ways that we become false for all kinds of different reasons. Some insecurities in our stories, some circumstances that we are in, we put on the mask, when freedom invites us to be true, that we might live in the truth and be an example of the way that life is supposed to be lived. So that when others look at us, they are not repelled by us away from You but are drawn in. Come, Holy Spirit, lead us into all truth, lead us away from all that is false in the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

Prayer and Encouragements:
This is Rodney from Atlanta. I want to pray for the family of the young man. I think he was a nurse who was riding his bike, either to work or from work and was killed instantly by a motorist who did not even stop. I want to pray for the nurse team that’s been affected by this, for the family. Father, I lift up the family of this young man who lost his life doing a good thing. Lord, we know that there’s so much evil in the earth. But God, I even pray Lord, for the motorist who didn’t even have the courtesy to stop. I pray God, You would convict his heart, that he would come forth, in the name of the Lord Jesus. God, I thank Lord, You are a God of justice and You know where this young man is that caused this to happen and caused this other young man to lose his life. Oh God, I pray, oh God, for the family. God, give them peace during this difficult time. Those loved ones, those friends who will be at his funeral service. God, I pray Lord, that You would just, that You would give either him or her the courage and the strength and the anointing to say what needs to be said to this family. God, it’s Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Be present for this family. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Thank God. Amen. And bless you.
Hey Brian, it’s Spark. I just wanted to thank you for today the 11th. I always love it when you get to, I know you can’t do it every day but when you get to share an outlook of reading through this thing so many times and something new always pops up. It struck me, it struck me pretty hard when, when you were explaining the Proverb today of how we blame God when things aren’t going right. And looking into myself now being far from perfect, a lot of times you can still look when things aren’t going right for you, and you can still do that. But testimony, when Beloved and I were dating, I was in real bad shape. I had just, I lived on probation for about the first few years of our marriage. And probably 10 years before that I was constantly on probation. And I remember one night I was pretty upset, and she was trying to get me to you know, pray. And I looked at her square in the eye and I said, God has done nothing for me. Everything you see around me, I built myself. And it was blasphemous as hell. But she looked at me and she goes, you’re exactly right. That’s the reason you’re in the shape you’re in. How things change following God. How much better my life is. And I want to thank you for that man. Thank you and God. Love, you brother.
Hey DAB, it’s Valiant Val her in Vegas family. Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You, acknowledging that life can be filled with struggle and challenges God. Father, for those of us that are on the struggle bus Lord, we ask for Your divine presence right now, Father, to strengthen us, Lord. During difficult times Father, we lean in and on You, Father. God, Your word reminds us that You are close to the broken hearted and that You save those that are crushed in spirit. So, Lord, we are clinging to Your promises, Father God. We know that You are near, Lord. God, Your word also says do not fear, for You are with us, do not be dismayed. For I am Your God, I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. God, we thank You for Your righteous right hand, Lord. And we’re leaning in and on You, Father. God, we thank You, Father. We ask for strength, Lord. Give us courage to face the struggles, Lord. Remind us that You are our constant support, God. We thank You, Father. In times of weakness and weariness, Lord, we thank You God. We thank You that Your word says, even to your old age and grey hairs, I am He, I am He, who will sustain You. I have made you and I will carry you. I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Lord, we thank You that You are our source and that You are our rescuer. Lord, we surrender all of our struggles to You, God. Knowing that You, Father, are greater than any challenge that we may face, Father. So, help us Lord to continue to trust in You, to have faithfulness in You, to rely on You, Lord. We thank You for your unfailing love. God, we thank You for Your presence. In Jesus name. Amen.
Hello DAB Family. My name is __ Girl. This is my first time ever calling. I started listening to DAB in September of last year after attending a support group for grief share. That someone introduced it to me. I lost my husband 3 years and three months ago to undiagnosed cancer. I was listening to Lorie from South Carolina who just lost her husband recently from complications of pancreatic issues. Lorie, just want you to know this journey is not easy. Being a widow is very difficult. It’s a day-by-day thing. Loneliness will take over. But sweet girl, just hang onto Jesus. He has been my stronghold, my supporter, my strength on days when I just wanted to give up. All I had to do was just wake up and He’s there. So, you hang on to your Lord. I just ask that You wrap Your arms around her today. And just give her the strength to face each and every day. In Jesus name I pray.

🤥 LYING 😨 FEARFUL 🖍️ CRAYON for Aomi, Saya, Masaru and Midorima!
𝐎𝐂 𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐉𝐈 𝐀𝐒𝐊𝐒! / Still Accepting! / @tsukuharuko
🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they’re lying?
Tumblr media
( Ironically, Saya, Masaru, and Shintarō are good liars although they can be blunt as well! Chantelle is also a liar because Pisces people tend to appear polite but they talk behind people's back. For Saya, she may sound a little hesitant when she is telling a lie but since in modern days, she has a reserved nature in canon, people may think she's just being awkward. One time when Chantelle lied when I was writing with @sportbaes , she had a lot of pauses while talking lol. Masaru may act a little exaggerated when he is lying / acting but I'm sure his acting skills will improve since in his main verse, he is an undercover demon slayer. As for Shintarō, he's mastered the art of having a stoic face so he's the hardest to detect he is lying except when Kazunari Takao ( tagging my dear Takao in here @ervaurem ) tells the truth about him being shy or actually wanting to wanting to be with the others and he goes "No!" That's the only time he's obviously lying.
😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into “flight” or “fight”?
Tumblr media
Saya's reaction to fight or flight has been answered here!
Masaru is a fighter so his reaction in most verses is to fight, especially since in most verses, he's been trained to.
Beneath that sweet demeanor that Chantelle has, lies a woman who becomes competitive and cunning on the court. Dolphins are evil and she has the wild instincts of the Bottlenose dolphin and she's earned them by fighting against people on the basketball court with her skills even if she does get a little scared in the beginning. She won't fight back when her elder sister, Constance, is bullying her at school. Which while writing with you Jenny, my brain started to headcanon that Shintarō once witnessed it which is why he no longer not considers her as a friend because of her blood type. I'll eventually have to drabble out the bullying and it'll be part of my Senshi no Basuke crossover.
Shintarō wasn't much of a fighter growing up. He's probably gotten bullied for carrying lucky items and I headcanon that my oc sister for him, Mika, had to call his bullies out and catch them in the act for them to stop. It wouldn't surprise me if seeing Mika's bravery inspired him as he got older and with his lucky item, he's fearless and depending how high Cancers are on the astrological ranking, he's unstoppable. Look at the time the Generation of Miracles encountered a bike thief in junior high, he just thought rationally, took Atsushi Murasakibara's ice pops, and did a three pointer that he knew would hit the thief. In Replace Plus, guy just used his Daruma to throw it at the guy who tried to throw a cup at Satsuki Momoi. As long as he has something to use for three-pointers, he can fight. I think he would only be afraid if his lucky item wasn't around since his bad luck is out to give him painful karmic retribution.
🖍️ CRAYON - what advice would you give to them?
For canon! Saya, I want to advise her to not see all Chiropterans as evil. Some humans have good and bad in them too, it's the same with her kind.
For Masaru... I'm sure he can advise me better since he's a lawyer but he does need to cool off with his jealousy.
For Chantelle, I want to tell her to not try to aim for acceptance wit her her elder sisters who hate her but she's so giving that she'll probably not listen to me anyways and somehow she and her sisters will reach an understanding but I'll have to figure that out in the future.
For Shintarō, I want to tell him to not be so closed off since there are people he can trust but he probably thinks of me and Chantelle as foolishly kind and too trusting anyways and he has gone through pain. Hopefully as he grows and does meet people who he can care for, his character will grow and lo and behold, actually apologize to others properly as @ervaurem once mentioned! )

To the would-be thief
Nothing really ends poetically if you think about it,
we turn sorrows and last breaths into songs
that speak of the suffering that we endured in silence,
Was it beautiful, in its own hurtful way?
was it just our inner essence being taken,
transforming over our sore skin as
we bled lines that someone else might have
thought about given the opportunity?
Maybe all pain is unique and I am just tired,
but after reading yet another poem that I could have written word for word,
I feel like that artist is a thief and I know that she did nothing wrong, but I feel wronged,
not because the verses diminish me in any way,
but because there's a sense of kinship in our shared tragedy that I do not wish in my heart.
I read the verses that could have been mine with an uneasy sense of admiration,
part of me wishing that I could put my hands on the shoulders of the girl that wrote it
and say nothing, aside from 'I understand'.
There's little companionship to be had in misery,
and I would expect the almost-thief to feel as I do,
reading my grief and wondering why it hurt her, would she call me a robber, too?
Would we wrestle for the right to our sorrows, dancing in the mud,
bleeding knuckles and bruised faces?
I hope that we would not, that in our conjuration of what ails us
we would find a form of quiet sisterhood,
'take this pain, but allow me to keep the loneliness', she would say,
and we would part ways, she, still drunk in the pain, and I,
still in love with my solitude. We would not keep our promises,
because all poets are liars,
but still, I would not search for her again and would hope that
at some point she finds something that soothes her,
someone whose touch will heal wounds that they did not create,
and whose voice will feel like a memory of a memory of
a time in which the hurt was not there.

Heads Up 7 Up
I think the idea here is to post seven sentences of something you wrote today, or to write 7 sentences on your wip if you haven’t yet today.
tagged by @late-to-the-fandom. Tagging it forward is tough b/c I am not sure who exactly is active with their writing. Haven’t seen a lot posted. So instead of tagging anyone specific, I’m going to leave it open and if you want to play writing or creative games, make sure to tag me in your post and I’ll include you directly in the future.
Unfortunately, seven sentences of what I wrote doesn’t really work out of context because it was a song, so I’m putting the whole song here. One of my D&D characters is an Aarakocra bard and I’m that crazy bard player who actually writes the music their character writes. So this one is about a party member’s alias that he travels under. I intended to poke some fun at him after he dared me during a disagreement, but then apparently it got popular and they’re singing it across the whole continent. It’s part of my character’s set list now. But on the spot during the game I only wrote the first half because I didn’t have time, so I needed to finish it. Still probably gonna add another pair of verses. So here is
Fuck Chuck the Chucklefuck  by Sid Greenfeather
Lock up your brandy, your whiskey and wine Closet your ladies both plain and divine No one is safe from his endless design Check his pockets, now whose gold will you find?
Cheer up, buddy, With your terrible luck Give us a chuckle, you miserable fuck Laugh while you cheat, Where's that extra card tucked? Fuck you now Chuck, You're a true Chucklefuck
CHORUS: OH Fuck Chuck, the Chucklefuck, Chuck fuck, the fucklechuck Fuck Chuck, the Chucklefuck [shouted] Hey folks, next round's on Chuck!
[spoken] Sorry buddy, you dared me to write this
Now I promise, every word of it's true If your coin purse is light by a plat'num 'r two Look around the pub for, yep, you know who He's a laugh, he's a smile, but his heart's always true
Sure he's a braggart and we all give him grief, When he opens his mouth, we all pray he'll be brief He's a rascal, a liar and an incorrigible thief But he's good in a fight, and he's armed to the teeth
CHORUS (singalong): OH Fuck Chuck, the Chucklefuck, Chuck fuck, the fucklechuck Fuck Chuck, the Chucklefuck Next round's on Chuck OH Fuck Chuck, the Chucklefuck, Chuck fuck, the fucklechuck Fuck Chuck, the Chucklefuck [shouted] Hey folks, next round's on Chuck!

Breaking down pro-Christian propaganda!
Tumblr media
I want to firstly make something clear to any of my religious followers or people who identify as Christian or believe in Jesus that this is not aimed at you. This is not even really aimed at your religion. This is aimed at the weird organisation who sent this in my mail.
It starts out pretty innocuous enough. Mr Nice Guy believes he's done enough to get into heaven and its pretty obvious the pamphlet is about how he needs to keep praying to Jesus for his sins. Nothing bad too far.
Tumblr media
It's weird because we never see the narrator, but if Mr Nice Guy lies about one thing - why would he lie about stealing as a kid? But again, nothing too bad so far.
Tumblr media
...until we get to the third pages, where we start to hit some problems. Notice how the first sin and the first Bible verse used relates to him committing adultery by listing after another woman? So he's gone from being a liar, to a thief, to an adulter in just a few panels!
The pamphlet tells us he's broken four of the ten commandments and is quite a problematic guy. Although we could spend some time arguing that most people lie and feeling lust is really just being attracted to someone else, we're still broadly in the clear.
Tumblr media
I'm not going to say too much here, because this next page is the really bad one. But keep a pin in "it's also about doing good things too!"
Tumblr media
I know exactly where your eyes went with this picture, because believe me: mine almost popped out of my head.
Lets break each panel down:
So the premise I guess of this whole pamphlet is saying "Sin is bad, imagine if everyone in your life saw every bad thing you did! How embarassing!"
There's a few reasons this is flawed thinking, but the most primary one is: why would everyone in your life care about every single thing you did? And are they without sin themselves? What my friend has done is none of my business, and vice versa.
"God knows the secret of the heart" is an interesting verse to quote here too. Because you could be merely thinking or feeling the urge to sin without acting on it, and that too would hbe considered as bad as committing the sin itself.
So again, all of this so far is fine. If the comic had ended there - I would not even be making this post, let alone taking photos of it.
But then there's THAT panel.
So Mr Nice Guy is clearly a straw man to help the narrator make the point that being a sinner is the worst thing in the eyes of God. He compares himself against Hitler, a Klu Klux Klansman, Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. Let me repeat; he compares himself against the most evil men in history to...prove a point sinning is okay?
Putting aside the fact that the year is 2022 and the men in the cartoon have been dead for a number of years now, what message is this sending for people who aren't religious and don't prey or don't know about sin? How do any of them relate to this story?
Never mind the fact that, in the case of the KKK, there are some links to religious groups who used the Bible to justify their terrible actions.
Somehow, we aren't done yet.
Tumblr media
This is where things truly go off the rails. The maths part involving the number of sins is just bonkers crazy.
How are we assuming he sins 5 times a day, let alone the same number of sins every day?
It then tries to compare "God's Law" to the actual law, and says he would most likely not be granted leniency for his crimes - even though, aside from being a thief, no sin he has committed is a crime.
Tumblr media
The rest of the comic is pretty bog standard Christian messaging, Jesus is the one who takes the punishment to absolve people of their sins in order to escape the violent eternal flames of hell.
Tumblr media
Seriously, what a wild ride.
I don't think this would convert anyone, let alone convince me as an atheist that:
Sin is real
God is real
Jesus died and resurrected.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading!
