Word of warning we just got a ton of possible leaks about season 2 of "Rings of Power" coming from The One Ring Net source. However, I will point out while a few of these seem possible this reminds me a lot of other "leaked" things for my other fandoms, especially DC and Marvel movies/shows, and most of those turned out to be false and fans just posting things for their own enjoyment. However, this is how it first leaked that Halbrand was Sauron before season 1 aired. Some of these do match scoops/spoilers we've gotten from Fellowship of Fans an interviews with the cast, but some of these are so out of left field. I'll post a breakdown under a cut of the major ones but you can see the post in full here. But I will point out some of these would be massive changes to the lore that even I'd be shocked if they do it, so again we'll see.
So the first thing that matches what FOF and even Charlie Vickers teased is that season 2 is going to show a lot of Sauron flashbacks and tell his side of the story and that we'll be in on his plans the whole time. But according to this post the Mairon version is a separate actor and that Gavi is actually the Annatar version but Halbrand/Charlie is still the main one going forward.
They're saying the Tolkien estate gave Amazon more access to "The Silmarillion" and we will see all the Valar, Maiar, Eru (he's just a voice though so we won't see a person), Melkor/Morgoth, Mairon (even called this name), Gandalf/Mithrander (who is Daniel's The Stranger), and even Ungoliant as we get this full backstory in the show.
Halbrand will go back to the dwarves and reveal he's Mairon to them and they truth him because of Aule.
It'll be revealed that Sauron/Mairon had a son and Adar killed him, which was why the line Adar said about "a woman or a child" was said in s1. No idea who the boy's mother is but possibly Amelia Kenworthy's character. This is a huge departure but would be interesting to have Sauron/Mairon/Halbrand actually have been a father and the 2nd Maiar besides Melian to have children.
Gandalf/Mithrander will also have flashbacks, including that he almost sided with Mairon, and even introduce Shadowfax.
Tom Bombadil and Goldberry will appear, which we already saw a leak about this possibly happening last year.
Supposedly Halbrand/Sauron does keep up his infatuation with Galadriel but actually goes back to Eregion not as just Annatar but as Celeborn!!! 😮 So they don't rescue Celeborn after all but it is Sauron/Halbrand and it's making it sound like there's romantic scenes between them but again it's actually Sauron/Halbrand with Galadriel and not Celeborn. I know some of us Haladriel shippers have written this exact thing in our fics and if this really does happen that again hints that Sauron/Halbrand really could be Celebrian's biological father which I would be shocked if the show did this even though I'd also love it. LOL Then add in if they do this change where Sauron had a son that died and possibly ends up having a daughter with Galadriel. It does sound like the real Celeborn does come back too at some point so if this happens this is going to be interesting, even though I know a lot of the purists and regular LOTR fans might hate it.
The season does end with Sauron forging the One Ring, which FOF has also been speculating. The thing is if Galadriel will be with him when he does as FOF reported on her being captured by Adar during the Battle of Eregion with this also confirms happens in the last 2 episodes.
They're also saying too that the season will also end with Galadriel making a choice to save either real Celeborn and/or Sauron/Halbrand as Celeborn, which again could point to above that she gets captured and then decides to stay with him. So this is going to be very interesting if any of these turn out to be true.

4, 6, 13 (especially 13; love you for the semicolon tattoo Frodo has)

Ooh, great choice >:-D Let’s go!
Tumblr media
(Read the whole comic here!)
4. What part of this piece was the most difficult to draw?
It's exactly what you might expect: Frodo's left arm (the one holding the phone) in the last panel definitely gave me some trouble. I was trying to find a pose that both a) looked natural and b) made Frodo's tattoo visible; you can actually see how many lines I drew and erased in the zoomed-in picture in this reblog.
I also had to try multiple different positions and designs for the tattoo before I found one that I liked. In a few early attempts, the tattoo actually went down the length of his arm! But in the end, I'm glad I kept it contained to the wrist.
6. What is your favorite part of this piece?
Oh man, it's so hard to pick! I love all of the modern designs, and I think most of the drawings turned out really well. (Pippin looks a bit wonky, but that's just because I'm not used to drawing people who are upside down.) In the end, I think my favorite part is just the slew of "Benadryl Cabbagepatch" names. That was a HYSTERICAL day on the Fig Tree Server, and I love seeing everyone's creativity and crazy senses of humor coming together like this! X-D
13. What Easter eggs/small details are hidden in this drawing?
OKAY *cracks knuckles* lemme give you the whole breakdown here.
Usernames and Avatar Icons
Frodo - DownFromTheDoor (referencing Bilbo's poem) - a book (because he's a nerd)
Pippin - tookursnacks (because he's a Took and he likes to eat) - peace sign (dunno, just felt appropriate)
Sam - taterz (obvious) - a potato (also obvious)
Merry - Herbmaster (because he really likes pipeweed) - the Horn of Rohan
Fatty - BigPapa (because he's. he's big) - plus signs (see previous)
Rosie - RoseGardens (cute play on her name) - a rose (same)
Gimli - Rock-n-Roll (dwarves like rocks) - an axe (obvious)
Aragorn - Telcontar (Elvish for "Strider", the dynasty name Aragorn chooses for himself) - crown surrounded by seven stars (part of the sigil of the King of Gondor)
Legolas - TraLaLally (reference to the 1977 Hobbit movie) - bow and arrow (obvious)
Boromir - TEAMGONDOR (in all caps because he is A LotTM) - the Horn of Gondor (obvious)
Tom Bombadil - Tim Bimbadimdim (I thought it would be funny) - a feather (he has one in the brim of his hat)
Goldberry - 💛🫐 (suggested by someone on the server, unfortunately not at all obvious in a black-and-white art style) - a star (seemed appropriate)
Gandalf - Gandalf (obvious) - wizard's hat (also obvious)
Design Choices
All four of the main hobbits (Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin) have a bracelet with a Single Bead, indicating they are part of the Core Friend Group
Merry wears dog tags and a watch. I imagine he has served in the military in some capacity, or aspires to do so; and the watch is there because he's the kind of detail-oriented person who's very concerned with being on time.
Sam and Rosie have matching bracelets: his is the sun, and hers is the moon. (Someone pointed out that the little thing hanging off her phone also looks like a sun. This is correct, but the bracelets were supposed to be the matching set.)
Rosie is also the only one of the gang to have a decorative phone case and a PopSocket.
Aragorn's mug says "GONDOR U", and the icon on his laptop is the shards of Narsil. It's kinda hard to see, but he also has a ring on his left hand, indicating that he's either engaged or married to Arwen.
Frodo gets the most Easter eggs. He too has a watch, because he's the sort to at least TRY to be on time; he has the tattoo, reading "worth f;ghting for", as aforementioned; and his shirt is a polo from the company Hang Ten, as indicated by the little feet embroidered on the lapel! I chose that one for two reasons: number one, little feet is Very Hobbity, and number two, they're my dad's favorite brand of polo. (He likes the little feet.)
PHONE DETAILS. Merry, Pippin, and Legolas are the only ones to have Extremely Fancy New Phones with three cameras on the back, because they are rich kids who can afford to have that sort of thing. Gimli is also rich, but his phone only has two cameras because he's not an Instagrammer. Sam and Rosie only have two-camera phones because theirs are cheaper older models. Everyone has phone cases except for Legolas. Gimli's phone case is a Particularly Chunky Heavy-Duty OtterBox. Aragorn is the only one with a laptop because he's Old. And, as aforementioned, Rosie is the only one who has a PopSocket.
Initial Conversation
I did actually plan the chat in the first panel very carefully! If you look at the time stamps beside the messages, you can see how the conversation picks up speed. It starts with Frodo declining some kind of an activity that night, saying he's busy with something else. Pippin responds, asking what he's doing. Frodo replies and sends photographic evidence, calling Bilbo "Beebo". Sam thinks this is very funny and repeats "Beebo". Frodo, encouraged by Sam thinking this is funny, doubles down the joke with "Beebo Bongos". Then Merry jumps in with "Blorbo Bagpipes". By this point, messages are coming in within the same minute, and then the rest of the chaos unfolds. X-D
Anyway, thanks for giving me an excuse to ramble about this comic! I had a lot of fun drawing it and I'm delighted to share the Deep Lore LOL

Continue - Part 3
Summary: You have been ripped away from your world and tossed into one that is supposed to be pure fiction. You know the stories, how they are supposed to go. Despite your knowledge, you are unable to change the fates of the Fellowship you had grown so close to.
Pairing: Legolas x Modern!Reader
Word Count: 1,957
Warnings/Disclaimers:  Violence, mentions of blood.
A/N: So this one turned into a beast. I wanted to write in some of the Battle of Helm’s Deep to try something different. Hopefully, this worked out, and I didn’t jump all over the place too much.

Tumblr media
“Please, reconsider,” Legolas pleaded with you. “What if the binding magic activates, again? If we are separated, you will be defenseless amongst the chaos.”
You chewed on your bottom lip. He had a point, but still...
Squeezing his fingers, you tried your case again. “Legolas, I understand. I truly do. But I want to help you all on the field, not hide away in the caves. In a battle like this... Every person counts.”
Thunder from the impending storm nearly overshadowed the elf’s sigh. He unlaced a hand and cupped your face, stroking the apple of you cheek with his thumb. “There is that endearing determination, again.” Pulling you forward, he laid his forehead on yours. The tenderness of the action made your heart flutter. “I will not be able to convince you, will I?”
“Not this time, no,” you breathed, a ghost of a smile adorning your face.
With a light huff, Legolas pulled away to help you secure chainmail and light armor. If he couldn’t coax you into staying safe inside the caves with the others who were unable to fight, then he would at least ensure you would have some protection. The goal would be for you to stay by him as much as possible in the upcoming battle, but both of you knew that most likely would not happen.
Just as you remembered from second movie, there was a commotion at the gate. With knitted brows, Legolas took your hand to head outside where you met with Aragorn and King Théoden. Before you stood an elven army, Haldir at the forefront looking as stoic and regal as ever. Relief and hope visibly flooded the Ranger’s body. So much so, that he pulled the elf into a hardy embrace.
Out of all the characters you knew of, the Marchwarden was the only one whose fate was up in the air. There was no mention of his death in the books. Then again, he had not led an army to Helm’s Deep. The second film added drama with his appearance and fall. But… Could that change?
This version of the world seemed to meld the two forms of media together. You had been able to meet Tom Bombadil and his wife Goldberry after leaving the Shire which definitely hadn’t happened in the movies. And then there was the time when Frodo had to be rushed to Rivendell after being stabbed with a Morgul blade. That played out like the film with Arwen cradling his weakened form and speeding away on her horse. You had only caught a glimpse of Glorfindel after meeting Elrond. So maybe… Just maybe…
It wasn’t long after Aragorn released Haldir from the awkward hug that orders to get into position were sent out. Squeezing your hand, Legolas motioned for you to join him with Gimli at the higher parapet where you all could use arrows until the enemy tried to clamber up the walls. Lightning cracked the sky as you reached your station, the accompanying thunder booming off the stone. Your elf had placed you in between Gimli and him. Despite the dwarf not knowing of the magic that tethered you, he cared for you like family. It was almost like you had your own bodyguards.
Checking your bow one last time, you noticed Gimli struggling to see over the wall.
“What’s happening out there?”
“Shall I describe it to you?” Legolas turned his head towards the dwarf who met his gaze with a hum and arched brow. “Or would you like me to find you a box?”
And there was that lopsided smirk that partly caused Gimli’s boisterous laugh. It wasn’t often you saw that kind of smile sneak its way onto Legolas’ face. You bit back a chortle just as the rain plummeted down on the battlefield.
Then the chaos began. An arrow was loosed early into the throng of Uruk-hai and orcs, sending them into a frenzy. Between firing attempts and dodging projectiles, you didn’t notice the ladders hitting the walls.
A sweaty, snarling orc head popped over the edge next to you. It was close enough to smell its rancid, putrid breath. Swallowing your shriek, you took the arrow you were about to notch and shoved it into the creature’s throat. A gurgled screech tore from its mouth as it feel backwards off the ladder. What moment of triumph you had was short lived as a new round of orcs quickly followed. You opted for your sword instead, strapping your bow on your back for later.
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure when you ended up on the ground level. It was all a blur. You were fairly sure you had fallen from the stairs at some point, probably in the middle of defending yourself. You at least remembered laying the mud and scrambling to reach your feet to dodge the next blow before lodging your sword in the orc’s side. Another orc rushed towards you, leaving no time to gather your bearings or look for your companions. After barely managing to take down that opponent, an explosion rumbled from the other side of the keep.
Aragorn.
Adrenaline coursed through you, blood pounding in your ears, as you sprinted off in that direction. By the time you reached him, the ranger was mostly back on his feet. You had only been able to make sure he regained his balance just as an Uruk-hai bulldozed its way to you from the newly breached wall. Jumping away from each other to miss its crudely forged blade, Aragorn and you then lunged forward with your swords, the steel penetrating the thick flesh not hidden away by armor. The Uruk-hai fell into muddy water, its black blood nearly indistinguishable from the muck.
Now focused on containing the breach, a handful of soldiers joined you and the ranger. A mess of Uruk-hai and orc were pouring through the opening. It wasn’t going to be enough. Aragorn called for everyone to start falling back. Just as you were headed off, a flash of red caught your eye. Your breath caught in your throat. Haldir was still on the upper level, making sure his soldiers were able to escape, and he was being surrounded rapidly.
Ripping the bow from your back, you shot at some of the orcs rushing up the stairs. You at least nailed a few of them. Your throat constricted lightly as you fired, either from your exhaustion or the magic warning you about interfering again. You weren’t quite sure at this point. Then, Haldir was hit, his entire world thrown off kilter. He spun wildly to defend himself from the onslaught. An Uruk-hai was readying his blade for the Marchwarden.
Magic be damned. You couldn’t just stand there and watch. Not again.
Sucking in a breath, you closed your eyes and raised your bow. Your chest tingled as you pointed in what you thought was the general direction. Flinging your eyes open, you made a last second adjustment to your aim. Just a touch to the left…
You were able to let go of the arrow just enough to let it fly from your fingers when your lungs froze and muscles locked you in place, leaving you unable to do anything but watch the following events. Your arrow hit the Uruk-hai’s bicep - non-fatal, but enough to cause it to falter. It also recalled Haldir’s focus, enabling him to dispose of his attacker.
He turned to find his savior, his eyes widening upon seeing you. At first you thought he was just surprised, but then you noticed movement in your peripheral. The binding magic still had you rooted to the spot and had ramped up. Your breathing was thin and ragged, vision blurring at the edges. You couldn’t even adjust your gaze to see what was approaching you at such a speedy gait.
An arrow whizzed past your face. A squelch sounded as it pierced the flesh of your supposed attacker. As the orc dropped to its knees, the spell chaining you down released. Gasping and choking on a torrent of oxygen, your burning muscles loosened and you fell back on the tower behind you.
Your head was pounding, muffling out the sounds of the battle still taking place. Warm hands encased your face and lifted your gaze. Panicked blue eyes bore into yours.
Legolas breathed your name. “Are you all right?”
“Yes,” you hoarsely replied while nodding, your throat feeling like coarse sandpaper.
The sound of more Uruk-hai and orcs stole your attentions. Legolas let go of your face and snatched up your hand instead, pulling you along with him. The Marchwarden had made it down the stairs and joined you in the retreat. With the three of you, you were able to brute force your way to the inside of the keep.
Tumblr media
Cheers and laughs echoed through the Golden hall. The Battle of Helm’s Deep was over. Saruman had been defeated, locked away in his tower with his lackey Wormtongue. Merry and Pippin were safely back with the company, celebrating the victory with the rest of Rohan. You, however, had chosen to go outside near the beginning of the festivities. There had barely been a moment’s rest between everything. All you really wanted was to decompress.
The cool breeze caressed your skin as you breathed in the clean air, your lips tugged lightly into a smile. You had done it. You had managed to bypass the stupid binding magic that kept you from changing anything. Albeit barely and your muscles still ached from how tightly the curse had wound them, but you still did it.
Leaning on the railing, you looked up at trillions of stars in the night sky. This world was truly beautiful. You could get used to living here if you were never to return to your own. Maybe by then, the curse would ease or end completely.
“Meleth?”
You swung around, facing Legolas who had been standing almost directly behind you.
“Legolas!” you gasped, before sniggering. “You always manage to sneak up on me!”
The elf laughed along with you and joined you at the railing, resting his hand on yours. “Are you well?”
“Never better.” You rested your head on his shoulder. “Thank you, by the way.”
He hummed questioningly while nuzzling your hair.
“Back at the keep. You were right about the binding magic. It did almost get me killed. If it weren’t for you, I may not be here right now.”
Tiny tears began to sting your eyes. This was just as real as your world and you could die just as easily. Legolas and the others had been vital in keeping you breathing. And you just had to try. It was only a fraction of a second that stood between life and death for both Haldir and you. It could have all gone wrong within moments.
Lacing his fingers with yours, he spoke softly, “I will admit, I was terrified when you disappeared. Even Gimli was unable to say what happened. I managed to find you when the air changed again. Seeing you frozen with that orc so close… My heart nearly stopped.” His voice nearly broke at the end.
“I-”
“Just promise me,” he stopped you, turning to where you were facing each other. “Promise me, you will be more careful.”
Gingerly cupping your face with his free hand, his thumb stoked your cheek.
You nodded, “I promise.”
Legolas then kissed your forehead. “Now, you did save the Marchwarden’s life, did you not?” He pulled back, tugging you with him to head inside. “That is added cause for celebration.”
“I guess it is,” you laughed and allowed him to bring you back to the party.

LotR Reread: Fellowship of the Ring, Book One, Chapters VII-XII
Finished Book One!
I’m getting through this SO much quicker and more easily than I did when I read it in high school! (Though that might just be because I haven’t gotten to Two Towers and had to read Gollum talking a lot.) (We all have our least favourite things; my father’s is Tom Bombadil and mine was Gollum talking.)
I’m also having a lot more fun with it than I did the first time I read it.
Things:
seriously, who and what are Goldberry and Tom Bombadil?
Goldberry appears to be some sort of river nymph and a child of a river god
who doesn’t exist, to my knowledge?
Tom around during the events of The Silmarillion, apparently
“... I am old. Eldest, that’s what I am”
Tom was apparently around before the rain and rivers and trees and things, which implies he was in some form around during the making of Arda
not affected or drawn to The Ring at all? Even Maiar are drawn to that...
I know there’s a poem-book starring Tom, so perhaps that will hold answers for me?
Aragorn going by Strider messed with my mental image of him the first time I read the book because for two seconds I pictured a water strider for some reason and that was a weird to seconds
also I’d forgotten that he just kind of... refers to himself as Strider in third person a lot
and carries around a broken sword because Narrative Significance
Chapters IX-X, or, as I like to call them “the chapters where the implied-to-this-point racism and xenophobia gets overt”
not actually
but also kind of actually
cringe
there’s a conversation that sounded right out of the Right Wing politics of today
“but people fleeing terrible happenings in their homeland are INCONVENIENT and we don’t like them,” they complained
hurray for continually applicable themes, I guess
hey, Luthien and Beren
everyone is so good are recitation in this story
I guess that’s what you did when television didn’t exist and books were heavy and expensive (which I assume they were)
Glorfindel just showing up
still not sure how he’s here, but okay
like, same name? same person?
who knows
someone, probably, there are a lot of smart people in the Tolkien fandom
and with that I am caught up enough to start participating in the LotR read-along being hosted by @silmread

I'd like to know how to effectively/efficiently braid together subplots such that the reader can get to know/get invested in the main players without me driving this story completely off the rails. Specifically, how to work in details about other plot threads when a character is present but not POV, how to let create a strong subplot without having to spend a ton of time in a character's POV, etc. Thanks!
My ‘multiple plots’ tag is [HERE].
Developing subplots is something that gives your story meat; subplots are often complications to the main plot, or distractions, stuff that your characters have to deal with in order to move on with the main plot, or they can be unexpected sources of help.
I'd like to know how to effectively/efficiently braid together subplots such that the reader can get to know/get invested in the main players without me driving this story completely off the rails.
The thing about subplots is that often they lead back to ‘the rails’, it can be a real treat to read a story where the main character gets swept along on some seemingly irrelevant side-quest while being aware that their main plot is ticking away without them and they need to get back to it, only for them to then discover that they’ve learned/ gained something vital from their involvement in the subplot that is going to help them in their main goal.
Of course, sometimes subplots are there to ‘derail’, and they can create conflict in that perhaps the character is leaving their current responsibilities in order to deal with a problem that seems very important, only to get back to their ‘main’ responsibility and discover that through their distraction Bad Things have happened.
It depends entirely what you want to do with the subplots that determines these kind of things.
how to work in details about other plot threads when a character is present but not POV, how to let create a strong subplot without having to spend a ton of time in a character's POV
I’m going to guess that you’re working with one focalising (POV) character, and you’re writing in either first person or third person limited perspective, your story is coloured by what this character sees and hears and knows.
So say for instance, your Main Character is toiling away on Main Plot Point A (MPPA) and is waiting for really important help from Secondary Character, who is currently embroiled in Sub Plot 1. Without leaving MC’s POV, we can show very clearly the impact that SP1 is having on the main plot, by how SC’s absence at a critical moment affects MPPA.
- MC is waiting at the bus stop, they want very badly to get into town in order to meet up with Love Interest, but need SC to go along with them
- MC is highly aware that there’s a time limit, LI finishes work in an hour, so if they want to meet up it’ll have to be THIS BUS ONLY
- MC watches the bus roll up, stop, people get off and on, they’re looking around desperately for SC, who needs to bring -important object- or else there will be dire consequences
- MC watches the bus depart, a few minutes later SC shows up, hot and sweaty and out of breath, with -important object- clutched under one arm, asks if they’ve made it in time, says breathlessly that it was a struggle to get away from SP1, but they made it!
So in this example there are some clear objectives that the character feels need to be reached in order to keep going on the main plot -- they need to meet up with SC, they need to catch a particular bus, and have a particular object with them in order to meet up with the LI.
With SC being late because of SP1, this means that the bus is missed (a temporal conflict), the important object is not available (a material conflict), and without SC bringing the important object in time, the MC’s plans are put off to your preferred degree of disaster (interpersonal conflict). These are all direct results of the Subplot, and the secondary character’s explanation of why they’re late can give as much or as little detail as to the whys and therefore the events of that subplot as necessary.
The other thing is ‘how much of my subplot do I need to show in order for it to work for the story?’
And the answer, as with so many things, is ‘it varies’.
A subplot can involve your main character actually physically detouring into something tangential to the main plot, it can involve them suddenly being met with a rush of problems or people to deal with who’ve just been involved with your secondary plot, or it can be their plans being upset by the outcomes of the subplot that they hadn’t been aware of until it started causing them issues.
It does often help to have at least one character show up who was personally involved in the subplot, to be able to pipe up at vital moments with information such as ‘that happened because the baddie did x!’, or to otherwise be able to provide contextual clues as to what happened in the subplot to be causing these effects on the main plot.
Examples:
There are some great subplots in the Harry Potter series, and that’s probably one of my favourite things about JKR’s writing, that she can lay in subtle hints and clues extremely far in advance and then have them become relevant as Harry learns something new and is able to put together the information he has.
For instance, it blew my mind as a kid when the Grim turned out to be Sirius Black -- y’know, the guy who was mentioned by Hagrid in an offhanded line in the first book? If you read back over Harry Potter you’ll notice a lot of this sort of thing, Harry doesn’t know anything about the world he’s going into, and a lot of subplots are revealed by more knowledgable characters who are immersed in the wizarding world saying things like “well everyone knows that --” and dropping some information that they think is commonplace but which to Harry changes a lot.
A great deal of the Marauders’ backstory/ the Scabbers/ Peter Pettigrew subplots are revealed when Harry and friends eavesdrop on some of the teachers at the pub in town. Or by Hagrid slipping up and saying more than he’s supposed to. Or by Hermione deciding that she needs to tell them a vital piece of information that she’s known about and either has been told not to share or thought would be obvious.
Doctor Who, especially the first new season (9th Doctor and Rose) is an interesting one, because essentially the episodes are a bunch of adventures in subplots while the main plot (the Bad Wolf arc) happens around them while they’re mostly oblivious until the last few eps and the relevance of Bad Wolf becomes apparent.
The Lord of the Rings has a whole bunch of great subplots that intersect with the main plot in various degrees of importance and influence, especially after the party splits, because at that point while Frodo and Sam’s journey to Mordor is harrowing and dark and dangerous, it’s also ... kind of boring? And the subplots involve things like leading nations into battle and defending strongholds and fighting industrialisation. Before the party splits you get gems like Tom Bombadil and Goldberry.
In short:
Subplots should be linked to your main plot, in that they bring new conflict, characters, information, backstory, etc. Subplots are part of the story, not unrelated things happening to fill time.
Subplots can involve your main character, or they can be related to the main character by others who were there, or they can just have a degree of impact on what is happening in the main plot.
Subplots can be explicitly shown or they can be implied through events and context.
Subplots can be laid in advance and then revealed as important when they become relevant or new information comes to light -- the reader can ‘discover’ them at the same time as the character, or you can keep the reader on their toes by leaving enough information for them to figure it out before the main character realises what they’re walking into.
Well integrated subplots can go a long way to making the world of your story feel more ‘real’. Because it’s not only the main character and the main plot happening in the whole wide world, that is just one character and one plot that happen to be the focus of the story, while other plots and characters are busy doing their own thing just next door.

Note: I’m only including couples that I personally ship, since I want to know public opinion of these specific pairings when pitted against each other. Sorry to any Legolas/Gimli shippers. 💜

Fellowship of Fans have released their take on The One Ring Net's article last week about those major "Rings of Power" season 2 leaks. Was curious if they would and glad they did as it's interesting to hear what FOF has heard too. They actually confirmed some of these they have also heard and they've also debunked a few too, but there are a few they don't know about so could be possible as the show did keep a few things secret for s1. Again we won't know if any of these are true, including what FOF has said, till s2 finally airs later this year. But will say they also included more about Charlie Vickers' screen time in s2 and it's good news as I know some of us were worried about it, and they're suggesting something we wanted to happen actually is. I'll break down their take between what they've also heard and what they've debunked and/or haven't heard at all.
ETA April 2024: A lot of these spoilers have been confirmed as false now including some that were leaked on purpose from Amazon to catch the leakers.
Confirmed:
The first major thing is it is possible Amazon got the ok from the Tolkien estate to use some of "The Silmarillion" to explain Sauron's backstory. This likely is mostly the use of names like Mairon, Mirthrander for Gandalf, Melkor/Morgoth, and show the Valar and Maiar.
There are flashbacks telling Sauron/Mairon's story but they haven't heard anything about what this leak said with the details. Possible the Valar and Maiar are shown on-screen in the opening, similar to Galadriel's opening in s1.
Sauron is in every episode.
Charlie Vickers filmed almost all the flashbacks and FOF seems to suggest that the Halbrand form is the human-like form of Mairon. Like above we might see what Mairon actually looked like fully as Maiar and Charlie is playing him. There likely is a flashback to his time with Adar, as Adar know Gavi Singh Chera's version, that Charlie won't be in but sounds like Gavi is mostly being used only as the Annatar version.
The 3rd actor playing Sauron very well could be Calam Lynch. They have also heard that Sauron will pretend to be Celeborn when he goes back to Eregion too, as well as shifting into Annatar when needed, but will pretend to be Galadriel's husband. They haven't posted this scoop though yet as they were waiting to get more confirmation but it is possible this is correct.
Is possible The Stranger being Gandalf/Mithrander will be revealed in the flashbacks with Charlie's Mairon/Sauron.
Sauron does use his connection to Aule to convince the dwarves to his side.
Tom Bombadil and Goldberry likely will appear.
The One Ring likely is getting made in the finale and Galadriel might make a huge choice for the cliffhanger for s3.
Debunked:
There are no bottle episodes.
Shadowfax will not appear.
Amelia Kenworthy is not playing Celebrian and there is no evil Celebrian, but Amelia's unnamed character is a villain.
That thing about the same actors playing Morgoth and Ungoliant playing Tom Bombadil and Goldberry is false, and they are not the same characters.
While the Valar and Maiar might be shown in the s2 premiere it's not what this leak described.
Things they haven't heard at all:
That Sauron has a son. That was the first time they ever heard this and they think it's false. However they aren't ruling out anything as again s1 did have leaks come out this exact same way and like they said TORT has the right to post these if they want. Will point out too TORT has doubled down on all these leaks, including this one about Sauron's son and that Adar killed him. I posted my other posts how this makes sense and I kind of do want this to happen, so if it doesn't I might write a fic about it as it weirdly works. LOL
So again we'll know for sure once season 2 airs which of these leaks/scoops were true. But again I'm really happy that it seems like Charlie is playing Mairon after all as so many of us thought he should.
