We’re decorating the library for the 35th anniversary and I made colourful hanging thingies (we’re talking sharpies, paper and glue level of craft) with letters from writing systems from all around the world. I sneaked a tengwar in there for good measure, a nice little ‘thulë’ on a red background with yellow fringes on the bottom. I am giggling like a child caught sneaking on the Christmas presents

Tolkien had Thorin say this in The Hobbit and now Amazon is making the Rings of Power. Amazon is literally the modern day personification of Smaug considering how much wealth it hoards, and it’s doing the exact same opposite as this quote. That kind of makes me think that Tolkien would be rolling around in his grave if he saw this happening to his precious legendarium.
