My ultra-hard finance exam is in less than 12 hours, and I still got more than half the materials to review even if I’m sleeping only 2-3 hours tonight. Then an interview out of town on Thursday, which means an entire day will be wasted on the road. Followed by another exam on Friday morning, which I have not started any of the readings, let alone writing that bloody cheat sheet.
May the strength of Dorothy, the sharpness of mind like Sophia’s, the fierce Scarlett O'Hara spirit of Blanche, and the inexhaustive energy of Rose be with me in the next 3 days.

Okay, Bea, I knowwwww you hated Amanda’s By the Sea so much you either talked about it with heavy sighs in most interviews and didn’t even bother to acknowledge its existence in the other. I also know it’s widely regarded as a pathetic failure to re-create Fawlty Towers, and most people keep dragging how bad it is compared to the original. I’m also aware it was canceled after 13 episodes, and they didn’t even show the last 3.
But Bea, if it makes you feel any better, I adore it. Granted it didn’t capture the essence of FT, according to most FT fans. But the show itself? Funny as hell. The supporting cast was meh, but Bea was so good and funny that I was cackling my way through the first ep and enjoying every minute of it. And Bea was sooosooooooo cute. That look was a lovely transition between Maude and Dorothy.
Amanda definitely sounds more like Maude than Dorothy, with the yelling and bossing around, and such energy! Although Golden Girls was only 2 years after this show, I feel like there’s a tiredness and something like skeptical resignation in Dorothy that I never saw in Maude or Amanda, who were both so hyper. Dorothy just seems so much older, wiser, and more tired than Amanda for some reason, although they’re about the same age (both with grown up/married children), and face quite some challenges (one runs a crumbling hotel with rather delinquent staff, one is a divorced substitute teacher who can’t afford to live on her own, etc.), and Bea was only 2 years older when she started the Golden Girls.
The point is, Bea, I love you to Jupiter and back, a couple times. And I do honestly enjoy Amanda’s By the Sea, please forgive me ;)

Today has been completely unproductive except for 2 very important discoveries:
1. My First Love (1988) starring Bea Arthur as your typical soft and sweet girl next door in a tender romantic comedy. (Mind-boggling.)
2. I found Amanda by the Sea on youtube and am pretty certain Bea had her breast reduction surgery while filming this show (sorry Bea, I know you wanted to erase the show from the face of the Earth and from everyone’s memory, but I’d love to watch you in anything, really. You might as well be narrating my accounting textbook and I’d subscribe). Either way, she looked amazing.

oh my gosh Bea Arthur did a romantic comedy during the time when she was doing the Golden Girls and the point is it was a romantic comedy like romantic romantic comedy and it’s called My First Love (find me a more stereotypical romantic movie title and I’ll take you out for ice cream) and there’s this video on youtube and HER CHARACTER SPEAKS SO SOFTLY OH MY GOSH and and even the makeup was so soft also like she even flirts and stuffs?!?!
I mean oh my goshhhhhh I’ve never seen Bea in any role that wasn’t a Bea-Arthur Type before watching this felt so bloody weird also in that scene she had the S3 Dorothy hair and look exactly like Dorothy (it was during TGG after all) and SHE WAS WEARING ONE OF THE DOROTHY OUTFITS ON THE GOLDEN GIRLS hoooly shit it was like watching an alter-ego of Dorothy flirting and being so rom-com-y and I mean that kind of sweet girl next door character falling head over heels over her first childhood love is…. Not…. something I could ever imagine Bea playing the point is my brain is very shocked and confused but also highly amused also did I mention that that video made me cringe so hard? Because it made me cringe very hard I had to stop after not even a minute and I both want to tattoo it in my brain and delete that from my memory at the same time?!?! But she looks so good oh my gosh all the hair and makeup were perfect (hey Golden Girls makeup people we need to talk) I NEED TO WATCH THAT MOVIE RIGHT NOW (but I can’t find it *shouting at the universe* PLEASE UPLOAD THANK YOU).
By the way, I love Bea Arthur.

I just had one of the shittiest days in years, filled with self-loathing, crippling insecurity, fighting on chat, cramming a crap ton of work, with a dull headache sprinkled on top and a night ahead which consists of 3 hours of sleep. But then I saw the Golden Girls Forever book on my bed. I picked it up and opened a random page. The moment I started reading, my face broke into a smile, which I didn’t even realise. And for a moment I forgot about the shittiness of the day and the fact that it’ll probably be worse tomorrow. I just felt so warm. For that 5 minutes, I had peace.
