Summary: When you find out what the two of them have been hiding from you all these years - and more importantly, what they've been depriving you of - you don't react well. You may be a submissive and they may be two Doms with whom your relationship runs deep, but you just cannot with these two idiots. Not this time.

"Please just wait a second. You're overreacting! Come on, Doll, won'tcha just let us expl-"
You whirl around at the nickname, furious. "No!" You reach up to smack away the hand that was reaching for you—Bucky's hand. He looks so hurt by it, and you grit your teeth, mad at him for his audacity to act hurt over this. "Don't call me that," you grit out, face red from how high your blood pressure currently is (and the crying, though you're doing your best to push that back until you can get away from them).
"Sweetie—"
"No! I said shut up!" You glare daggers at him. "You don't get to call me that anymore."
"Honey ..."
"And neither do you!" you snap, turning the daggers on Steve. You point at him, then Bucky, jabbing each of them once in their chests with your finger. "I'm not your 'Honey', I'm not your 'Sweetie'. I'm the girl whose life you've ruined for the past twelve years, and you don't get to act like you care about me now!"
Bucky sighs like you're being unreasonable, and that pisses you off even more than him acting hurt over it had. "Doll, come on. It's not that big of a—"
"God! Just stop!" You turn back to your apartment door and shakily get your keys out and fit the right one to the lock, your angry tears about to burst out of you from frustration when you fumble a few times before getting it open. You feel the heat of the two of them at your back and you push the door inward and take a step in, then turn back around to face them—they're closer, right at the threshold. "Get back," you say tersely, body tensing up at the threat that they might follow you in. You can't take that right now. You need to be alone. You have to process this.
"Come on, Peach. Just let us explain, please. Let's talk about this."
Goddamn him. It's like he's trying to use up his whole repertoire of pet names just to spite you. "There's nothing to talk about!" You grab the edge of the door and push it to slam it shut in their faces, but Bucky's metal hand comes up and stops it from closing completely.
His expression is harder now, his voice lower as he gives you a stern look. "Don't shut us out, Peach."
You huff, sick and tired of his superior attitude. Normally, you like the way he coddles you, talks down to you, calls you pet names—it makes you feel special and warm—but not today. Today you just found out that Stucky (as you refer to the pair of them) are your soulmates—both of them. That's rare but not unheard of. They're both Doms, after all, so it only figured that one or both of them was eventually going to get the tingle for some sub, somewhere, someday. And now you know it's you.
That's not what you're mad about, though. Your stomach had dropped right out when Bucky admitted that he and Steve have known about this for twelve years. Twelve fucking years! And then Steve had the nerve to tell you that they've been tag teaming as "chaperones" (read: stalkers) for the entirety of your dating life—ever since you were fourteen and started going out with Jimmy Bollinger in the ninth grade.
You get sicker the more you think about it: all those fumbled relationships, all those boys (and later, men) who seemed to like you so much, and then who suddenly lost interest; all those times when a Bumble match would stand you up, or when a few kisses and seemingly fantastic dates led to a sudden ghosting. Now you know why. Steve and Bucky have been "handling" (read: intimidating) them out of your sphere for over an entire decade!
You can't even begin to process the betrayal you feel, how confused and upset this makes you. You feel like your best friends have just played the cruelest trick ever, and you can't let them come into your apartment now because you know if you do, they'll just Dom (read: bully) the upset out of you and that is not what you want. It's not what you need. You need to cry and vent and rage. You need to call Wanda over and drink more vodka than Stucky would ever allow you to. So no, you can't let them in.
You sneer at Bucky's hand on the door and his superior expression. "Take your fucking hand off my fucking door, right fucking now, Barnes," you warn, absolutely fed up with him and totally showing it on your stone cold face.
For a second, his eyes narrow and he looks like he'll fight you on it. But Steve puts a hand on his shoulder and says quietly, "Babe," addressing Bucky as his husband. You clench your teeth and glare Bucky down. His features pinch as if it's physically painful for him to respect your wishes, but he does pull back—which, unbeknownst to him, saves him from a swift punch to the face. He opens his mouth like he'll say something else, continue arguing that you shouldn't be upset at them, but before he can, you slam the door shut in their faces, rapidly locking it and throwing the deadbolt once it's closed.
You stand there, immediately breaking into the tears you were trying so desperately to hold back in front of them, both palms flat on the door and then your forehead resting between them as all the anger inside you suddenly collapses into sorrow.
How could they do this to you?!
You hear them talking from the other side of the door, though it's muffled. They sound frustrated, talking to each other, arguing back and forth in low, hissed voices. You can't make all of their words out, but you do hear Steve scolding Bucky for his aggressiveness, and then Bucky sniping back about Steve being too soft.
"Now she'll never come outta there," he complains to Steve. "She needs us! We need to talk to her, hold her! We need to explain—"
"—You think I don't know that?! Think I don't want her in my arms just as bad as you do?!"
You scoff at the back and forth of their arguing and pull away from the door, not wanting to hear it. You stomp back to your bedroom and slam the door shut, hard, hoping they hear it from out in the hall. You toss your purse on the bed, then yourself. You let yourself break down completely and just sob into your pillow for a while; hot, angry, devastated tears wetting the pillowcase and making you snotty and miserable as you think about the joke they've made of you all these years.
Every single time, you think, horrified as the realization sinks deeper and deeper with the more memories you drag up and examine. From Jimmy in ninth grade, from high school crushes and a ruined prom night, through all your college boyfriends and after-college boyfriends, all the way up to your third date/breakup with Derrick today: All of it has been because of them.
You'd thought there was something wrong with you; that you were a bad kisser, or not that pretty, not thin enough or not toned enough, not smart or interesting enough. You'd angsted over whether maybe you talked too much about heavy topics on first dates, or didn't give off a heavy enough sub vibe—or too much of a sub vibe. All these years trying so desperately to improve yourself, to make yourself lovable, and it turns out that Steve and Bucky were chasing away any chance you had at love in the first place.
You break down for a while in your room, crying and fuming and crying some more, utterly devastated at their betrayal. Eventually the tears run out, and instead you just get really, really angry.
The audacity of them! You remember the scene from earlier, when you'd bumped into them outside the restaurant where Derrick had cautiously told you that he "wasn't ready for a relationship," and that "it was him, not you." You'd left, managing not to cry despite how dejected you'd felt, so sure that it was you (again), and found Bucky and Steve standing there, looking like they'd been waiting for it to happen.
Steve had looked nervous, Bucky less so. He'd been the one to comfort you as you all walked back towards the building you shared. He'd told you that the guy didn't deserve you anyway, that you were too good for him—all the usual platitudes that did only a little to heal the hurt of another rejection. You hadn't thought much of how they'd just been there outside the restaurant, chalking it up to coincidence at first.
God, you felt so stupid now! All these years and you've never seen it. You lay there in your bed and replay that evening in your mind, going back to the moment it'd happened:
Tumblr media
"Just tell her," Steve says, once you've reached the stoop in front of your building.
"Tell me what?"
Bucky takes a deep breath and puts both hands on your shoulders as he looks in your eyes and gently confesses, "It's us, Doll. We're the reason why none of your relationships have really worked out." He glances over at Steve, and the two of them share a knowing look, before he turns back to you and the both of them stare you down. "We've been waiting for you."
You get a sinking sense of dread right away, even though you don't understand what he means. "What?" You lift your hands to cover his on your shoulders, intending to push them off, but he only curls his fingers more firmly there. "What are you saying?"
"We're your soulmates, Honey," Steve says, while Bucky nods. "We have been for ... well ... since you were fourteen." He kind of winces when he says it, and you gape for a full five seconds before you manage to squeak,
"What?!"
Bucky leads you over to the bench that sits in front of your building, urging you down to sit between them. Their big bodies crowd you in from either side, pressing up against you, but for the first time in your life, it doesn't feel like safety. "No," you whimper, looking back and forth between them to try and see that this is just a mean joke. "You don't ... you aren't ..." Steve nods seriously, and you feel your breath leave you. "You can't be. I mean, not all this time? You knew? And you didn't ... you knew you were my ..."
"Yeah, your soulmates, Honey." Steve puts his hand on top of your thigh, giving a gentle squeeze that you suppose is meant to be comforting. "It's a good thing, yeah?"
You shudder, humiliated. "How could you?"
They share a confused look, mistaking your meaning and each of them answering simultaneously:
"We have your Words."
"We felt it happen."
You scoff. "I mean: how could you do this to me?!"
They both look shocked that you're so upset about it. They hold you still to keep you sitting on the bench between them when you try to get up. "Hold on, Doll. Let us explain."
"Explain? Explain?!"
"We were just protecting you, Hon, until you got a little older, until you were ready." Steve is so coaxing, so sweet like he always is, and Bucky hums and pets your arm as he acknowledges that what Steve is saying is the truth.
“But we watched out for you.”
“What? What does that mean?”
“We had to look after you,” Steve explains, like it’s common sense. “Couldn’t let any of those guys get serious with you, you know?”
“... Oh my god,” you whisper. Neither one of them seems to pick up on the horror that's dawning on you, as you realize the full scope of the situation. "Since I was ... f-fourteen?" you say, beginning to hyperventilate, thinking of all the not-quite-boyfriends of so many years, the canceled dates, the ghosted texts, the "I'm not ready for this" excuses.
You're ... you're still a virgin because of these two!
New strength enters your body and you surge to your feet, breaking through their hold on you. You turn to them with angry tears already building up behind your eyes. This is unbelievable! How could they do this to you? "How?!" you demand, voice wavering with emotion. "Show me."
They each pull down on the necklines of their tee shirts, stretching the fabric to reveal the top swells of their left pecs. And there, just underneath their left collarbones, are the matching marks:
You guys are complete idiots, you do realize this?
The Words on their skin are in that odd shade of muted red that everyone's Words are in—like an old scar that never quite healed—and you stare, unable to breathe for a couple of seconds. You must've called them "idiots" and "dumbasses" a thousand times over the years, but the second you see their marks, you somehow know the exact instance when you'd said those words; the memory of the encounter playing out in your mind as clear as if it were right there in front of you on a tv screen.
You flounder for a bit as you try to make sense of it, to somehow make what they're telling you less awful. "So you've ... you've just been ruining my dates for ... for ten years?!"
Neither of them look prepared for this reaction from you. "Well ... twelve," Steve grimaces. "But it was 'cause we knew—"
"Because you knew and didn't tell me! Why didn't you tell me?!"
"Sweetie, just calm down for a sec. This is good news. We were trying to protect you."
You turn all your anger on Bucky at that point, incensed. "Protect me?!"
You don't miss the way that his eyes harden, how he squares his jaw and gives you a firm, "Yes. To protect you." You scoff, and he leans forward and grabs your wrist and tugs you back to the bench, but you land ungracefully in his lap and he wraps his arms around your middle so that you can't escape, your back pressed tightly to his chest.
"Let me go!"
"No. You're going to sit still like a good girl and hear us out," he says, using his Dominant tone, and you freeze at hearing it. Bucky and Steve never intone with you. They're your friends. They're respectful. Sure, there's always been a small degree of sexual tension present between you, but they're married, they're Stucky, and they've always been platonic with you. Always! Bucky's breath hits warm against your scalp and the shell of your ear as he tries to calm you down. "You were too young at fourteen, Doll," he says, still speaking sternly but also compassionately. "Can't you understand that?"
Steve nods along in agreement. "You weren't ready to be tied down to someone. You weren't ready to be Dommed, and you sure as hell weren't ready for intimacy of any kind."
"Intimacy?" you sneer, struggling and failing against the strength of Bucky's arms. "Like I'd have any clue what that is, huh? I'm twenty-six goddamn years old and I've never gotten past second base! I thought there was something wrong with me. And now I find out, after all these years of angsting, that it's because you two have been cock blocking me?!"
"Calm down," Bucky growls in your ear—another Dominant order, just as Steve says,
"Sweetheart, please ..."
To your great shame, you have a physical reaction to Bucky's hold on you: his strong arms restraining you and his scruff brushing against your neck and his Dominant tone seeping into your brain—and Steve's coaxing entreaties coming from the side don't help. It's not under your control, how your clit pulses and your panties get a little wet spot from all that stimulation. You are a submissive, after all, and this is Bucky doing this to you. How many times have you thought about it? How many nights spent lying in bed have you brought him to mind, or him and Steve to mind, as you've slipped a hand down your belly and—
No, you think, shutting those thoughts off in anger. You're not going to go soft for them now. They can't get away with this.
You've been crying at this point, a few tears escaping down your cheeks like firebrands, only increasing your humiliation. And of course Steve coos and leans in to wipe them away. "Hey, heey, Honey. It's okay. We're here now."
You jerk away from him like his hands are poison and you hiss, "Don't touch me."
Steve's hand falls away, his face so full of concern. "Honey ..." he laments.
"No. Don't call me that. Don't touch me." You squirm hard in Bucky's arms again, and when he doesn't let you go you huff and turn to Steve. "Make him let me go. Now."
Your gaze must be murderous, because after a brief hesitation, Steve reluctantly convinces Bucky to let go of you. You immediately get to your feet and storm off, hurrying into the apartment building and towards the elevator, the two men following at your back. "Leave me alone!"
They catch up to you at the elevator before the doors can fully shut, Bucky glaring and Steve wincing as they block the doors and force their way inside. "Please," Steve says, begging you to understand. "It was for your own good."
Wrong thing to say. You go to jab the button for your floor and cross your arms, keeping yourself away from them—and well out of Bucky's reach. Bucky pushes the button for his and Steve's floor, too (it's just below yours), and then swipes his hand over the buttons for every other floor. You hiss and whirl around. "Christ. Real mature, Bucky."
"We need the time to talk."
"You could have told me!"
"We wanted you to have your freedom, Hon," Steve pleads. His kind tone only makes you angrier.
"Freedom?! How is that freedom? Freedom to do what? to spend years trying to find a connection with someone and fail? to figure that it must be me; that I'm, I dunno, overestimating myself? to convince myself I'm a seven and then decide that I must really only be, like, a solid four 'cause no one wants me?"
"The fuck?" Bucky growls and steps forward. "You're gorgeous." But he says it like a chastisement instead of a compliment, and you're far too angry to take any compliments from him, anyway.
"Fuck you!"
"Is that what you would've preferred?" he says darkly. "Hm? Because we were twenty-four back then, already out of college. And you were fourteen fucking years old, Sweetheart." You blush and avert your eyes, and Bucky nods, vindicated. "You really think two grown-ass men were gonna come busting in when you were still practically a kid? Take advantage of you in your prissy little ballerina bedroom? Hm? Pop your cherry on that sweet lacy duvet?"
"Buck," Steve complains.
It's a mean assessment, but it's accurate, and you suddenly hate that Bucky knows what your childhood bedroom back at your parents' apartment looks like. "No," you answer him tightly. "But you should've told me, not stalked me for twelve fucking years to make sure I never get laid!" You're still blushing as you say the words, but Steve looks a little ashamed, so you're glad you did.
At their floor, they try to coax you out into the hallway to go home with them like you've done so many times in the past, but you stay in the elevator and jab at the close door button, trying to shut them out. No such luck.
"Where do you think you're going?" Bucky asks as he steps back on, Steve right behind. You back up until you hit the elevator's wall, nowhere to go. Bucky crowds you in while Steve stands beside you. They both look a little less apologetic now and a little more ... well, dominant.
"Home," you say, meaning for the word come out assertive. Instead it comes out timid and you nearly cringe at yourself. "M'going home. Alone."
Bucky raises an eyebrow. "Oh is that so?" The way he says it is dark and dangerous and smooth as satin. It makes your pulse quicken—but not in fear.
"Bucky," you breathe, trying to move to get around him, but they both block you in. "Ugh! Let me go."
They don't allow it. Bucky shoves his knee forward, forcing your legs to part. You gasp and he moves closer, pressing, holding you in place with his thick thigh wedged up against your clothed cunt. He rests his weight through his hand against the wall, right next to your head. Then, holding eye contact and with his lips parted, expression intent, he grinds his thigh forward.
You make an embarrassing 'yip' of a sound, and his eyes darken. You've never seen him look like that—not at you. It makes something nervous and desperate begin to gather in your belly. "Stop," you say, trying so hard to make your voice firm. You push against his chest, mad that he's using his dominance to bring out your submission. You've never subbed for Bucky or Steve—or anyone, really. At least nobody you care about. Since you've been unable to gain a sexual partner all these years, you've always used the services provided by Pro Doms - their platonic services, because no way in hell were you ever going to sign up to lose your virginity in a glorified medical clinic.
"Just relax for me," Bucky intones, nearly purring the words down at you. "Let us take you home and talk this out, huh?"
You whine at the increasing tug in your belly, embarrassed. "Don't–don't do that," you stammer, turning your head away from him. "S'not fair."
Bucky hums, pleased, but Steve clears his throat and then you hear him murmuring, "Buck, let her go. You can't force this. It isn't right."
You breathe a sigh of relief when Bucky pulls back from you, removing the pressure from between your legs. You have to fight the urge to put your hand down there, or to try and rub your thighs together. His big thigh pushed up between your legs had felt so good, and now it's gone.
"You liked that," Bucky says smugly, eyes gleaming. "Admit it. That made you wet just now, didn't it?"
You're scowling as Steve is once again chastising his husband for his crude comments. "Buck! Come on, man."
"Like I'd ever get turned on by you," you snap, hands balled into fists so you don't try to hit him again. "You're like my brother. Gross!"
It's not true. Not even a little bit. But you can tell that it gets under Bucky's skin, that it bothers him, so you sneer at him all the more and jab the button for your floor. The elevator moves up. Bucky's not intoning anymore, so that tugging in your belly fades away and your anger resurfaces, only this time it's even worse. You scowl at him and step forward, shoving him in the chest with your full might.
He barely moves, and when you shove him again and again, he only moves back by a small step, keeping his balance and leering at you because it's obvious how weak you are and how strong he is—and he knows that as a sub, you can't help but like that.
"Ugh!" You're ready to cry again, so mad and so humiliated by what they've done to you. "I hate you!"
"Don't say that, Honey," Steve mourns, still so fucking kind that you can hardly stand him any better than Bucky.
"Fuck you too, Steven," you snap, groaning in relief when the elevator finally 'dings' at your floor and the doors open. You step out and hurry down the hall towards your apartment, knowing that they're following you.
Tumblr media
Which leads us all the way back to you, crying and fuming in your bedroom; and Bucky and Steve, ostensibly locked out in the hallway. You have no idea how long they loiter out there, but you're too afraid to open the door and check. You turn on your tv for background noise and make tea, checking the peep hole occasionally, but you can’t hear them talking anymore. If they are out there, they're making sure to stay out of eyeshot.
You huff at your own paranoia when you pull back from the most recent peephole check. You don't need to be doing this. You've already spent forty minutes crying, over an hour fuming, and another hour cry-fuming less vigorously over a few cups of tea. It's time to call for reinforcements.
"Wanda? Hey. I need you to come over for a girls' night."
Wanda, ever perceptive, can hear your clogged sinuses through the phone. She asks.
You sniffle and admit, "No, it's not good. Bring Nat if she's free. And plenty of Vodka."

Not a request for your picture drop but could I request a little drabble on soulmates? Someone on my timeline reblogged a lot of soulmate fics today and I'm hooked again.
Maybe for Steve or Bucky?
It was the moment the door opened and they’d been cast into the decked out theme, that made them question whether or not they actually wanted to be here. It was the moment the smell of freshly made popcorn hit their noses followed by the shrieks and laughter of kids running as best as they could, that made them wonder if being roped into Stark’s charity event was as accidental as he claimed.
Neither Steve nor Bucky was opposed to being present at these charity events, neither one of them would truly negate the chance to give back however it was working closely with whatever whims Tony Stark had for them that was anxiety inducing.
All he had told the two super soldiers was to arrive exactly at 2pm and show up in their uniforms with their personas on full display. With the two men closely aligned, as being each others soulmates and just missing one third of themselves, they could detect more than most who were without any indicators of who their other half was.
“Its captain America!” A little boy with an oxygen tank being wheeled behind him had scooted toward Steve, and in a single bound had made all hesitations dissipate from the soldiers body.
“Sick kids hospital, didn’t Tony tell you?” Clint had slipped past the two, watching them as they were getting nearly bombarded with kids. “They’re raising money for new beds, new monsters, a new intensive care unit-”
“And the Winter Soldier!” Bucky was tugged forward, caught off balance and nearly stumbled flat on his face as a little girl reached for his arm in wonderment.
“Still wanna leave, punk?” Bucky teased Steve, looking back at one half of his soulmate with questioning gaze that centred entirely on Steve’s daze. “Steve? Ya alright, pal?”
Steve had felt the cusps of full colour slowly radiating into his field of vision, the hues of faint light hitting him with the all too real sense that he was in the same room as their missing piece. The kids around him were eager for attention and he was not one who wanted to disappoint them however he was held captive by a woman talking with Clint.
“Bucky-” Steve spoke his name, his throat and voice cracking as an air of suspense whipped around him and his world became brighter and more Saturday’s.
“Captain America! Captain America!” Kids scrambled to gain his attention as the world around him shifted into a new direction and dimension.
“Holy shit-!” Bucky cursed, coming to stand straight and tall, his eyes likely also becoming overwhelmed with colours that had never yet been see .
“THE WINTER SOLDIER SAID A BAD WORD!” The kids around them chortled, cackling and screaming in glee as Steve and Bucky were completely enraptured by a woman on the other side of the room.
Coney Island indoors, a fair inside for kids who may never have the chance to go. It was a fair to raise money for sick kids, and it was a cause Steve could get fully behind. He was a sickly child once, he was a child who could’ve died any number of times over and over again.
It was a Coney Island theme filled with colours and sensations, and yet all he could focus on was the missing part of himself and Bucky.
“Colours-”
“I never knew the world could be so gorgeous.” Steve inhaled and exhaled slowly, his eyes fixated toward their soulmate who was as equally shocked and in awe.
Steve’s smile was slow to rise, and he had awkwardly raised his hand to wave twice, back and forth to somehow acknowledge their soulmate.
Bucky had watched Steve, eyebrows furrowed and a soft chuckle threatening to spill from his lips. He was equally endeared by Steve’s continued awkwardness and embarrassed.
“It’s her.” Steve mumbled under his breath, falling back into his task at hand when he crouched and started interacting with the kids surrounding him.
He had only ever raised his head when two additional people joined their little space, and then Steve locked onto a gorgeous pair of eyes that stole his breath and his heart.
“Steve,” Clint addressed Steve and Bucky before introducing his friend, his fingers poignantly moving, “this is Y/N, a volunteer for the sick kids hospital. Y/N this is Steve & Bucky.”
Bucky stood from where he was crouching and inhaled sharply, just as captivated as Steve was.
“I lost my hearing when I was 16,” you used sign language to communicate along with your verbal explanation, fingers forming each word despite them not knowing ASL, “I had meningitis. I recovered but…”
You tapped your left and right ear and then shook your hand to signify your ability to only partially hear. It was a message that was received with the weight of the two soldiers finding out you were theirs, another layer to the life-altering news of the day.
“I can talk and I use sign language but-”
“Bucky,” Steve drew his hand between Bucky and himself, “Steve-”
“I think she knows, pal.” Bucky nudged Steve, attempting to save him from further embarrassment, only to falter himself when the sound of your laughter rang in their ears.

Okay but maybe this has been done before but
I want a soul mate au where on your birthday you stand infront of a mirror and you see the reflection of your soul mate and maybe a clue to help you find them. It only happens on your birthday after a certain age ( 18?)
Options:
Steve - after waking up from the ice thinks Bucky is gone so he doesn't really think he is gonna see anything as he is fixing his hair to get ready but then he sees the Winter Soldier with a Hydra symbol.
Tony - getting ready with his tailor with Happy and Pepper chatting away at him and goes to look at his reflection. Sees Peter putting on his Spiderman suit.
Tony - maybe he grew up every now and then seeing the same person, but he doesn't always see them. He thinks his soul mate might be a mutant cause they haven't really aged. And maybe that's why he has a soft spot for Peter cause he feels a need to protect this "mutant" or enhanced individual. It isn't until the airport that he realizes it's Bucky being reflected.
Steve - it was a random day several years after the snap that he sees for once the reflection of someone. And he has seen that face before as one of the missing. He storms back into the Avengers compound or to Tony at the cabin to dig through the archives. Tony yelled at him if he was crazy before the picture of one Peter Parker showed up. Steve is having a breakdown and triggers Tony.
Bucky- he was out on a mission for Hydra when he saw a reflection ( or maybe he saw in his holding cell before cryo). The Winter Soldier is intrigued. He knows this means he has a soul mate. But how could that be? Hydra said he didn't have one/they were dead. But he knows that's the skyline of Queens. Now, he is on a hunt for his soulmate. Even if that means he has to go to Captain America himself to track him down. Of course, Spiderman confronts the pair as they are stalking through Queens.

Peter spilled his drink. It was a common reflex to that familiar burn in his arm; the one that scorched the name of his soul match into his inner wrist the moment they met eyes.
The problem is that it was familiar.
Because Peter already felt that burn with Tony Stark – already had Tony’s name etched into his skin – already thought his forever was spoken for.
So if you asked Peter to explain why Steve Rogers and James Barnes were suddenly accompanying Tony's name, he would have no clue how to respond. He’s heard of rare cases before; they always made the news because the likelihood of finding one soul match was low, so finding more than one? Well, that was downright inconceivable.
But at least he wasn't alone in his surprise. James and Steve looked just as confused, staring at him with stunned eyes as his name burned into their wrists too.
And as Tony came around the bar, worried about why his lover had dropped his glass, he felt his wrists burning as well.
And then there were four looks of confusion.

The Words Engraved Upon Our Souls
While Bucky has accepted Tony’s offer to build him a new arm, there’s clearly something bothering him.  When Tony learns that the first words Steve spoke to Bucky - his soulmate mark - was on the arm he lost,  he   proposes a solution.
This is a fill for today’s @februaryficletchallenge  Day 9: Soulmate AU prompt, as well as my @buckybarnesbingo  Flash Bingo  U card - Ultimatum   and  @stuckybingo  O2 - Stark Tower prompts.  Huge thanks to CoffeeOwl for an awesome prompt  (see end of fic)
Fandom: MCU/Marvel Pairing: Steve/Bucky,   Steve & Bucky & Tony Rating: General Tags: Soulmate AU, Stark Tower, Bucky’s Metal Arm, pining!Tony Word Count: 986
“It’s ready.” Tony tried to keep his voice even; while Bucky had initially seemed interested - excited even - about having a new arm built to replace the Fist of Hydra, over the last couple of days, it seemed something had changed. Steve had noticed it too, but Bucky wouldn’t talk about it to him either.
“Okay.” Bucky rose from the couch and joined Tony in the elevator to the workshop. As the car descended into the basement of Stark Tower, Tony bit the bullet.
“Something’s bothering you about the new arm, isn’t it?”
Bucky tilted his head slightly. “You don’t miss much, do you?”
“Noticing things - and fixing them - is kind of my job,” Tony replied as they stepped out into his workshop. “So talk to me. Did I make it the wrong color? Shiny finish instead of matte? Steve already said I couldn’t give you switchblade fingers--”
Bucky’s soft huff of laughter was music to Tony’s ears. While he knew that Steve and Bucky were true soulmates and devoted to one another, Tony couldn’t help but be attracted to a man who had been through hell and kept going. It also didn’t help that his teenage crush on Captain America was threatening to come back in full force.
Things had started off rocky in both cases: Tony and Steve had butted heads on the helicarrier, and it had been difficult for Tony to learn the truth behind the events of December 16th, 1991.
But then Tony discovered the lengths that Hydra had gone to in order to erase the man Bucky Barnes had been and that they had never quite succeeded. It allowed him to accept the fact that the Soldier had been a weapon who didn’t choose his targets, and any anger or desire for revenge should be aimed at his handlers instead.
“It’s the words,” Bucky blurted out, pulling Tony from his reverie.
“What words?” Tony asked, confused.
“Me & Steve’s words - the first ones we said to each other.” Bucky took a shuddering breath. “When I lost my arm.... I lost them too.”
“I see.” Tony replied; then an idea hit him. “Would it help if I engraved them on your new arm?”
Bucky’s face brightened, just a little. “You could do that, couldn’t you?”
“Of course. Want them inlayed in gold, too?”
Bucky chuckled. “Nah - that’s too fancy for a coupla kids from Brooklyn.” He paused. “Could you trace over Steve’s handwriting?”
“Not a problem. Want JARVIS to ask him to join us?”
“Please.”
“You heard him, J,” Tony called out. “Page Captain Rogers to the workshop.”
Steve arrived a few minutes later, a worried expression on his face and a little out of breath; apparently he hadn’t bothered waiting for the elevator. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, Stevie, “Bucky assured him. “At least not any more. Our resident genius came out with a solution to something that’s been on my mind.”
Tony felt his cheeks heat,  even as Steve looked at him quizzically. “Bucky mentioned that when he lost his arm, he lost your words. So I suggested engraving them on his new one.”
Steve’s face lit up with amazement and joy. “That’s a fantastic idea, Tony!”
“I have them every once in awhile,” Tony shrugged off the compliment as he opened the case that contained Bucky’s new arm. “So, where exactly were they? It’ll be easier to put them on now, before it’s attached.” After Steve showed him the spot on the inside of the bicep where his words had originally been. Tony spent a few minutes prepping the metal surface.
Watching Steve carefully write out ‘Yeah - and I ain’t no kid.’ Tony couldn’t help but ask, “So, what’s the story behind that?” He winced internally, knowing that while some people were happy to explain their words, others felt them to be a private, personal thing.
“I was getting beat up in an alley, and Bucky came along and gave the bully what for.” Steve grinned fondly at the memory as he pushed his sleeve up to show off his soulmate mark, which read ‘You okay, kid?’
“To be fair,” Bucky shot back, a grin on his face as well, “you looked like you were nine instead of fourteen!” They argued good-naturedly about the details of that first encounter as Tony traced over the letters with an engraving tool.
Carefully wiping away the minuscule metal shavings, Tony felt a pang of jealousy, mixed with the pride he felt at giving his two friends (alas, only friends)  a piece of their own past back. A look passed between Bucky and Steve; something fleeting and inscrutable.
“Do you remember the first thing you said to me, Tony?” Bucky’s voice was soft and touched with remorse.
Tony nodded in reply; Bucky had made a heartfelt apology, and he had simply said that it would be some time until he could forgive him. “I want you to put those words on my arm too,” Bucky continued.
“Why?” Tony and Steve asked at the same time.
“To remind me of the lives I’ve taken.” Bucky’s jaw jutted out stubbornly. “Don’t put that arm on me until those words are right there where I’ll see 'em every damned day.” He tapped the metal insistently with a stiff finger.
Tony thought for a moment; he understood better than most what Bucky was feeling. But he also believed he had a solution to the situation. “Okay.” He picked up the engraving tool, only for Steve to give him a shocked look.
“Tony, what are you--” Bucky blocked Steve from reaching out and interfering.
“This is my arm, so I get to choose what’s on it,” he growled.
Steve glared back, clearly ready to argue. “Hold on, Steve. Wait til I’m done,” Tony broke in. In neat block letters, he wrote ‘It will take a while before I forgive you'. Tony then went back and drew a neat line through the first six words.
Original Prompt as shared in the STB Enthusiasts Discord channel
CoffeeOwl ?prompt Soulmate AU: When Bucky lost his arm, he also lost his words. Tony builds him a new one and gives them back. (WinterIron, Stuckony or friendly favor for Stucky 😇 Ooooh maybe Tony does it for Stucky and then Bucky asks Tony to add *his* first words as well?

Don’t Stop Believin’ - Chapter 1
AKA — A Stucky x OC Soulmate AU
In a world where roughly half the population receive a single soul mark on their sixteenth birthday, T.J. Archer is the exception—she has two. With nothing but the limited context of the words supernaturally etched on the inside of each wrist, she can't find it in herself to believe in happy endings.
When Steve comes out of the ice, he's still heartbroken over Bucky's fall. When he discovers the new soulmark etched on his skin, the only emotion he can name is rage. He doesn't want a new soulmate—he wants Bucky. Yet, despite his best efforts to pretend she doesn't exist, T.J.'s easygoing manner intrigues him and they form a shaky friendship.
After the Winter Soldier pulls Steve from the Potomac, he meets a woman who shows him kindness despite him nearly killing the man she loves. Bucky knows nothing except that these two idiots mean everything to him—even if he doesn't completely understand why yet.
Author’s note: This is an epically slow burn longfic filled with angst and flawed characters, but it’s guaranteed to have a happy (eventual) ending. Steve is a stubborn ass for several chapters — emphasis on *ass*, but he eventually figures it out and starts to make amends. Also, updates are slow because I’m in grad school for my MBA and I work full time, but I do try to write as often as I can. I also adore comments from readers and answer all of them so please let me know if you enjoy it! 💙

Chapter 12
Steve stood at the top of the stairs starring down at his long lost soulmate for what felt like ages. The grip on his gun was so tight it almost hurt as he lowered it away from Bucky. His breath caught in his throat as he looked into Bucky’s steely blue eyes that used to look at him with nothing but warmth and love. Now they eyed Steve beedily as Bucky was debating what to do now that he had been caught. The two men just stared at each other, waiting for the other to break the silence.
“Steve,” a soft voice called out from the common room. Bucky’s eye’s darted up towards the door and took a step forward. Steve raised his gun again, stopping Bucky in his tracks.
“What are you doing here?” Steve asked.
“There was a girl by the river when I pulled you out. She said to come here to talk to her,” Bucky said. Steve lowered his gun again, his brow furrowed.
“She told you to come here?”
Bucky’s shoulders tensed and his brow furrowed.
“Why do you care?” Bucky said in a gravely voice that sounded like it hadn’t been used in awhile.
“She’s also my soulmate and I have to keep her safe, even from you,” Steve answered. Valerie called out again, her voice sounding closer. Both of the super soldiers could her her footsteps nearing the stairwell door. “What did you need to talk to her about?”
Bucky looked down at the ground for a moment. His shoulder moved up and down like he was trying to compose himself and Steve gripped his gun a little tighter. Bucky looked back up at Steve, a steelyness in his eye that hadn’t even been there in the D.C.
“Bucky…”
“You didn’t hold a gun to me in D.C.” Bucky said.
“You weren’t asking for my soulmate in D.C.,” Steve replied. “I don’t want to hold a gun to you but until I know why you came to see her, I don’t have another choice. Maybe I’ll put my gun down if you tell me what you want with her.”
“I don’t know,” Bucky grumbled, eyes darting down.
“I need better than I don’t know,” Steve said. Bucky huffed, his lips pressed tightly together.
“I just came to talk to the girl from the river.”
“You said that already,” Steve said through gritted teeth. Steve’s patience was waring thin. All he wanted to do was run to Bucky. To throw his arms around his soulmate and help him out of this situation and introduce him properly to Valerie. He didn’t dare to think about the life they could have. One of easy contentedness living far away from any outside forces looking to exploit them. Now wasn’t the time for daydreaming of lives that could be. No, now was the time for caution because some swedish asshole decided Bucky needed to be brainwashed for 70 years. Used and abused for Hydra. Before Bucky could answer, the door opened and Valerie peaked her head in.
“Steve? What are you…” the question died on her lips once she noticed the gun in Steve’s hand and the tightnessof his shoulders and jaw. Suddenly, rushed steps came from the stairs, and in a flash Bucky and Steve were struggling against each other. Bucky’s arms were around Steve’s waist, trying to get past him. Steve had Bucky in a headlock, his feet planted to the ground. Steve hit bucky with the butt of his gun, but Buckky caught his wrist. Steve grabbed Bucky’s arm and twisted it, using his hight to his advantage and pushing Bucking to the ground. Steve knelt on Bucky’s back. It all happened so quickly, Valerie didn’t even have time to yell.
“Valerie, get out of here,” Steve yelled, his gun pressed into Bucky’s back. Valerie stood frozen in wide eye terror as Bucky looked up at her. “Call Tony, then Same. Tell them what’s happening
Valerie ignored Steve’s request and just looked at Bucky, who wasn’t even struggling against Steve. Bucky was here. He was here. There Bucky was, in ragged, slightly grimy clothes that she was sure were stolen, a knifelaying just a foot away from his flesh hand. Valerie didn’t care about the knife nor did she heed Steve’s warning to leave. All she could think about was getting this distressed man into the tower.
“Bucky,” she whispered, disbalief washing over her. “What are you doing here?”
Bucky took a minute to look her over. She had a nervous look in her eye, but her hands gripped the doorhandle so tightly, it was like she was tethering herself to prevent her from running the few steps between them. He cleared his throat. “I wanted to talk to you.”
“About what?”
“You said you’d be here if I needed help,” Bucky said, he stared at her determedly, fighting every urge to push Steve off of him so he could look at her properly. “Why?”
Valerie mouth opened and closed, trying to form words. What did he mean ‘why?’ It was a question so simple, that it felt like it should just be known. Yet here Bucky was looking up at her like a lost kid looking for help. His tone was sharp and pointed though, so cutting, Valerie stepped back. “Why did I offer you help?”
“You saw what I did to him, why would you want to help me?”
“Do you not think you deserve it?” Valerie asked.
“Why would I deserve it?”
“Because it wasn’t your fault,” Steve interjected. It wasn’t the right answer. Bucky started shaking his head, lips pressed together in a thin line.
“No, I still did it though,” Bucky said through gritted teeth.
“You also pulled Steve from the water and you’ve had this long to go back to Hydra, and you didn’t,” Valerie said, hands gripping the rail. “If you’re so unredeemable, why not just leave Steve to die and go back?”
“I don’t know,” Bucky mumbled.
“Why don’t you get off of him, Steve? We can get him some clean clothes and some food. In the mean time, he can try to think of a better answer than I don’t know,” Valerie said, taking a tentative step forward only to jump back as Steve yelled out a ‘no’ and shoved his hand out to block Valerie.
“Steve!” Valerie hissed.
“He doesn’t come in until he tell me exactly why he’s here,” Steve said firmly.
“I shouldn’t be here,” Bucky siad.
“Then what are you doing here?” Steve asked.
“I don’t know.”
“We need better than I don’t know, Buck,” Steve said.
“Okay, Bucky you turn on Jarvis and instead of giving Steve your weapons, you place them infront of you on the table?” Valerie asked, finally getting out of Steve’s grip and stepping beside Steve. “Does that work for everyone?”
“I shouldn’t be here,” Bucky repeated.
“Were you just planning on waiting in the stairwell until someone happened to see you then?”
“I…I don’t know. I just wanted to ask you something.” Bucky said, turning his head away from Valerie and Steve.
“What did you want to ask?” Valerie asked.
“What’s your name?”
Valerie looked from Bucky to Steve, who kept his eyes trained on Bucky. Part of her didn’t want to answer. It was the part of her that knew how dangerous Bucky was. If he could nearly kill Steve then what hope did she have against him? But another part of her just wanted to crouch down next to him, caress his face, and tell him everything was going to be okay. To shoo Steve off and wrap her arms around this lost man.
“Valeire,” she finally answered.
“You’re full name,” Bucky demanded.
“You don’t -” Steve began but Valerie cut him off.
“Valerie Marie Jones,” she whispered so quietly Steve almost couldn’t hear her but Bucky had never listened so closely to anyone in his entire life.
“Do you have my name on you?” Bucky asked. Valerie nodded, her eyes stinging.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Bucky asked, hurt lacing his words.
“Th-there was so much going on. I didn’t think it was the right time.” Valerie said, breathing low to stop the tears from falling.
Bucky didn’t say anything. He turned his head away from her and his mouth became a straight line. His gaze was so hard and piercing, Valerie thought he might carve a hole throught the concrete wall as an escape.
“Why did you want to help me?” he finally gritted out, “You didn’t even want to tell me who you were, yet you want to help me?”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you who I was. If I could go back a change that, I would. But I do want to help you if that’s what you want,” Valerie said. Steve let out a wet scoff and suddenly Valerie remembered that Steve was still there, pinning Bucky to the ground.
“Of course he wants help, and we’re going to give it to him,” Steve said. His eyes were red and he took measured breaths. For the first time, Bucky started to struggle a bit, a slight panic in his eye.
Valerie shook her head, stepping towards Steve and crouching down to place a hand on Bucky’s shoulder. “No, he has to want help. He has to ask for it, Steve. Forcing him to go through what you’re asking of him could do more harm than good. Please get off of Bucky and let him make his choice.”
Steve shook his had back and forth, his face screwing up like he was trying to will the tears to go back into his eyes. “Even if I wanted to, I can’t let him leave.”
“Why don’t we just start with standing up?” Valerie said, softly caressing Steve’s cheek.
Steve nodded and pinned both of Bucky’s hands behind his back before standing and bring Bucky up with him. Bucky looked like he wanted to bolt. His eyes were darting from Valerie to the door leading into the tower and the stairs, but he made no move to get out of Steve’s grip.
“Valerie grab that knife and bring it to the kitchen. Then call Tony and tell him what’s happening,,” Steve said. Valerei picked up the knife and hesitated looking between the two men.
“We’ll be in there in a second,” Steve reassured. “I just need to pat down Bucky before he goes in.”
Valerei nodded and left the men alone again. Steve sighed and walked Bucky over to the wall. He placed Bucky’s hands against the cinder blocks and pushed his feet apart. He got to work, searching for any hidden weapon on Bucky. He ran his hands across Bucky’s arms and down his torso and legs. Steve turned Bucky around and repeated his search again. Bucky said nothing and only moved when Steve moved him. He had a far off look on his face, like he wasn’t there.
“You alright, Buck?” Steve asked, lifting up Bucky’s shirt to pull a gun from his waistband. Bucky didn’t say anything. Steve reached the front of Bucky’s right boot and felt another knife. He sighed and pulled it out. “You packed pretty light for storming the tower alone.”
“I shouldn’t be here,” Bucky whispered.
“No, probably not,” Steve sighed, standing to look Bucky in the eye. “But I’m glad you came.”
“If you were smart, you’d kill me,” Bucky said matter-of-factly. Steve’s entire body went rigid and his blood felt icy.
“I don’t want you dead,” Steve mumbled.
“I wanted you dead.”
Steve started at Bucky. His jaw was set and if he didn’t know better, he would have believed what Bucky said. But there was something behind that suredness that told Steve he was fronting. He just shook his head.
“If you wanted me dead you wouldn’t have pulled me from the river.”
“You don’t know me,” Bucky said, glaring at Steve.
“I do know you, Buck and you know me.”
Bucky stared unblinking at Steve, like he was waiting for Steve to take back what he said. But he didn’t. Steve just took a step back and waited for Bucky to walk through the door into the tower. After a moment, the two men were walking into the common area.
“Jarvis,” Steve said, setting down Bucky’s weapons. “What’s Tony’s ETA?”
“Mr. Stark should be back at the tower in about 30 minutes,” Jarvis replied. “I also should tell you that as soon as Mr. Barnes left the stairwell, I was able to regain access to that area but my access to the common area was gone the moment Mr. Barnes entered.”
Steve huffed and shook his head. “Bucky, first let’s start with not disrupting Jarvis. If you’re gonna stay we need Tony to agree to it and messing with Jarvis is not the way to get on his good side.”
Valerie walked into the kitchen from the living room, putting her phone back in her pocket. “Tony is on his way and he know’s that Bucky is messing with Jarvis. He’s really not happy about it.”
Bucky shifted uncomfortably, but he made no move to stop interfering with Jarvis. Steve and Valerie just stared at him, waiting for him to do something but nothing came. Finally Valerie sat next to him.
“If you want us to help you, you’re going to have to trust us a little,” She said, mindful to keep her voice even and kind, not touching his at all.
Bucky considered her words for a moment, his body so rigid Valerie thought he looked like he’d shatter if touched. Steve took a step towards Bucky, a comforting hand outstretched. Bucky’s eyes darted to Steve and Valerie jerked her head side to side in a absolutely-not-abort-mission kind of way. Thankfully, Steve picked up on this and dropped his hand.
“Valerie’s right, Buck,” Steve sighed. “Help us help you.”
Bucky looked to Steve and then Valerie, before giving a curt nod and pulling out some kind of device that looked out of a sci-fi movie to Valerie, and flicking a switch.
“I now have access to the common area kitchen,” Jarvis said. “Mr. Stark is also 15 minutes away.”
“I shouldn’t be here,” Bucky murmured.
“Why not?” Valerie asked.
Bucky’s jaw clenched and his breathing became deep and measured. Whirling came from his metal arm as his balled his fist. It should have been terrifying - Valerie hadn’t been able to forget just how broken Steve looked when he had been pulled out of the river. Yet she knew he wouldn’t hurt her.
“Is there a specific reason you shouldn’t be here?” she asked. Again, he didn’t answer.
“Bucky, we need some answers. Tony is-” Steve began to plead but Bucky interrupted.
“I killed Howard and his wife,” Bucky said lowly, staring at the counter. Valerie’s forehead creased in confusion. She didn’t know who those people were, but from Steve face she could tell it was bad. As soon as the words left Bucky’s mouth, the color drained from Steve’s face. His mouth opened and closed stupidly as he looked for anything so say. After a moment, Steve finally found his voice.
“You didn’t have a choice, Bucky.”
“I still did it.”
“You wouldn’t have done that if you were in your right mind,” Steve comforted, but Bucky just shook his head.
“I shouldn't’ have come here,” Bucky muttered.
“But you did,” Valerie said firmly. “You came here to ask for help and we want to do that Bucky.”
“You two want to help, but is Stark really going to want to help the guy who murdered his parents?” Bucky asked pointedly.
“What did you just say?” a voice asked from behind Steve and Valerie. They both whipped around to see Tony standing in the middle of the room  in his Iron Man suit. His mask flipped up and he was glaring so intensely at Bucky, Valerie was sure he would set on fire if Tony didn’t look away.
“Tony-” Steve started but was silenced when Tony turned his gaze on him.
“Did you know he killed my mom,” Tony said, lowly.
“No, I didn’t,” Steve said quickly. “I didn’t know and I’m sure that when Bucky did it he didn’t know either.”
All three of them turned to Bucky who was just staring blankly at the floor.
“Hey! Now’s a great time to start talking, Manchurian Candidate,” Tony barked.
“I’m sorry…” Bucky said softly, not looking up.
“You’re sorry? Is that all you have to say?” Tony yelled. He rushed forward and Valerie stepped in front of Tony. “Get out of here Valerie, I’ll hurt you if you get in the way.”
“Tony, he wasn’t in his right mind,” Steve yelled. “And Valerie has nothing to do with this.”
Tony was seething. He flipped his mask back down and lifted his hand up, a whirling noise came from it and the light in his palm got brighter. Valerei pushed his arm away from its target right as it shot a beam of light. A hole was in the wall and Tony roared.
“Tony, stop!” Valerie yelled as Steve shouted at her to leave. Bucky was still seated at the table, looking completely unfazed. “Tony, don’t hurt him!”
“Why? He killed my mom and all he has to say for himself is sorry,” Tony spat.
“I know, and I can’t imagine what you’re feeling but hurting him won’t bring her back,” Valerie pleaded.
“Why is he here?” Tony asked though clenched teeth.
“He came for help,” Steve said.
“I told him to come if he needed help,” Valerie said. “He wants to make up for what he’s done.”
Tony scoffed. “Really? Is that what you want, Barnes. To go around to everyone you hurt and give out some half-assed apology and then rot away in some super max prison? Becasue that’s what’s coming for you. I’m gonna make sure of it.”
Bucky finally looked up and with the saddest eyes Valerie had ever seen said to her and Steve, “I shouldn’t have come here. I’m sorry.”
In a fraction of a second, Bucky grabbed his weapons from the table and unscrewed the hilt. A small ball can rolling out and in a flash, a dense fog filled the air. Valerie couldn’t see anything but felt large metal hands push her to the ground and heavy footfalls rushing away. Her eyes watered as she tried to wave away the smoke. She stood slowly and reached out her hands to feel her way to Steve, if he was even still there. A few steps in she hit the kitchen counter.
“Steve!” she called out.
“I’m right here, Val,” he replied and a moment later Steve’s large hand reached through the smoke to pull her through. In a moment, they were in the stairwell again breathing the fresh air. The two just leaned against the wall in silence as Jarvis filtered out the smoke. Valerie tried to strain her ears to hear any sign of Bucky or Tony, but they were both gone. She was trying hard to not look at Steve, she could already tell how he was feeling through their mark. Devastation and longing like she had never felt crept from his name, encasing her heart in a deep sadness so thick molassas seemed as thin as water. She looked up at him, as silent tears poured down his face.
“Steve…” she whispered, but he just shook his head.
“He was right here, Valerie,” Steve gasped. “He was right here, wanting my help and Tony chased him away.”
“I’m so sorry, Steve,” Valerie cried. He just looked at her eyes wide and watery. She racked her brain to find the right thing to say, anything to make that beaten puppy dog look on his face go away but what is there to say? How do you comfort someone when the love of their life is so close and yet so far beyond their reach? Valerie decided the universe had the most fucked up sense of humor.
“How was I supposed to know they made him kill Tony’s parents? I never would have kept him here if I had known,” Steve sobbed. He buried his head in his hands and sank to the ground. Valerie wrapped her arms around him and held him as he cried for his soulmate.
They sat like that well past soreness stiffened Valerie’s knees and Steve’s tears dried up. THe two just sat huddled together until the door swung open and metal footsteps came culomping in. Tony stood in front of them, glaring down in distrust.
“Did you know?” he asked.
“Tony,” Valerie started but Tony was determined to get his answer. He pushed Valerie off of Steve and grabbed the other man by the collar, shoving him against the wall.
“Did you know?” He repeated. Steve looked past Tony, his voice came small and scratchy from crying.
“No.”
“Did you know he was coming here?” Tony asked.
“No.”
“Why was he here?” Steve didn’t answer. Tony shoved him against the wall for a second time. “Steve!”
“I told him to come here!” Valerie yelled, the shock of Tony’s abruptness finally abetting. “When he pulled Steve from the river, I was there and told him to come here when he wanted to get help.”
Tony turned to Valerie and let go of Steve. His face was red and his gaze made Valerie want to curl up and die.
“I’m not helping him with anything,” Tony spat. WIth that he turned and went back into the tower.
Valerie let out a breath she didn’t know she had been holding as soon as the door slammed shut.
“Steve,” she whimpered, though she didn’t know what to say.
“Are you okay?” Steve asked, his gaze still far off.
“Yeah,” she said. “Are you?”
“Bucky needs help. I have work to do,” Steve said. He pushed himself off the wall and walked into the tower without sparing Valerie a glance. He left her alone to her thoughts and finally Valerie sank to the ground herself, tears streaming down her face.

Here is a list of future series that I will be posting. Some of them I have already started writing or outlining for. My asks are open so if you want to know more about these stories or want drabbles please feel free I would love to answer questions!!
Stucky:
Blooming (working title might change it)
Stucky x Villain!Reader, soulmate AU
Your mission was simple, infiltrate the Avengers and inform your handler of any useful information. This would be your most important mission to date and the longest. You had to start from the academy and work your way up. The last thing you expected was for your soulmates to be none other than Captain Steve Rogers and Sergeant Bucky Barnes. But the marks on your rib cage that resembled flower buds, one for each soulmate, came to life. That was all it took for them to want to get to know you better and you saw it as your opportunity to complete your tasks. As you got to know more about Steve and Bucky the more you started to question your mission. Will you give in to the unbreakable bond with your soulmates or will you betray them for the sake of your mission?
Undercover
Detective!Stucky x Informant Reader AU
Your life has never really been easy but the past few months take the cake. You were a dancer at a club just to keep a roof over your head, it was never your intention to get involved with the darker dealings of the club owner. But witnessing a double homicide pulls you into a world of deceit, drugs and murder. While you had initially reported what you saw to the cops they decided to use your position to gather as much information to finally put an end to the Red Skulls. Detective Rogers and his partner Detective Barnes assured you they would keep you safe. With your life on the line every day the case was open and the undeniable attraction you felt for both detectives would you be able to escape unscathed or would the leader of the Red Skulls use you as an example for being a rat?
Sam/Bucky
Siren’s Call
Hunter!Sam/Bucky x Siren!Reader AU
Sam and Bucky have known each other their whole lives and have been partners both in work and romantically for years. In a world full of creatures they were the most feared and respected hunters. Most of the time going after monsters that didn’t respect the rules set by the council of both creatures and humans. If they weren’t busy hunting they were taking contracts and they had no idea that the last contract they took would change their lives forever. You had lived all of your life at sea, your mother’s voice was in your head repeating the warning to stay away from the human world. But it was too late, now you would see first hand the evil you were warned against. Your song had no effect on the men that had taken you and you found yourself imprisoned. Just as you had given up hope you felt it. The calling of your true mates, they were close and you knew that if you could only talk to them you could convince them to save you. Once Bucky and Sam realize the truth their only objective is to keep you safe but the man that hired them will stop at nothing to own one of the most elusive and priceless creatures to ever roam the earth.
Steve Rogers & Ransom Drysdale:
Alpha, past and present
Alpha!Steve Rogers x Omega!Reader x Alpha!Ransom Drysdale:
Steve Rogers was your alpha and you were his omega. It was an undeniable truth. Your parents were against it, saying that a weak alpha like him wouldn’t be able to provide and protect you like you deserved and that if you had any pups they would be just as sickly. When Steve told you that he was accepted into the army you felt like your world was ending. But you would follow him to the ends of the earth, so you used your nursing degree and followed him into the battlefield. Somehow in the fight to end Hydra you ended up in the 21st Century with Steve. It’s at one of Tony’s Stark’s infamous parties that you meet the cocky alpha Ransom Drysdale. Slowly and surely you begin to learn about the freedoms an omega has. Your only question is could you have both your alpha from the past and an alpha from the present?
Andy Barber & Ari Levinson:
Scent of an Omega
Mob Boss Alpha!Andy Barber x Plus size Omega!Reader x Mob Boss Alpha!Ari Levinson
From the moment you presented your parents, especially your mother, always reminded you that no alpha would want a plus sized omega. Although hearing those things from your parents hurt you didn’t let them affect you. You had shown them that true alpha’s didn’t care about your size, you were still desirable. It was your confidence that grabbed the attention of the most feared men in Boston and it was your sweet and delicate scent that drove them wild. Although Andy and Ari knew each other for a while and even had done business together, they were willing to end everything in order to be the one to claim you. The decision was up to you, the only problem was that you couldn’t choose.
Steve Rogers:
What happens in Vegas
Steve Rogers x Reader
What was supposed to be a bachelorette party weekend for your best friend in Vegas gave way to more problems. The first being waking up in bed with a stranger, until you realized that said stranger was none other than America’s golden boy Steve Rogers. As if having to do the walk of shame wasn’t enough you were faced with an incredible mistake, you were now Mrs. Rogers. If the matching rings on your fingers weren’t enough the marriage certificate sealed the deal. What started out as a one night stand and a mistake became so much more. Steve’s PR team wanted to keep the marriage going for some time, the strained relationship with your friends was at its breaking point and family secrets were soon to be revealed. With your world falling apart you could only hope that Steve took the vows for better, for worse seriously.
Unknown
Steve Rogers x Shield Agent!Reader
When Steve woke up from the Ice in a new world he felt alone and lost but you gave him a life line. You had been assigned to help him adjust and from there a friendship form, one that led to something more. The Avengers were formed and you fought alongside him but soon your relationship started to crumble and before you knew it you went your separate ways. Until you found Bucky in a cryo chamber and you knew Steve needed to know. That would be the last time he would see you. Steve regretted the break up as soon as it happened but he would come to hate it more the next time he would see you. In the middle of a city in Europe with no memory of who you were and no recollection of the time you spent together. Would he be able to remind you of everything or would it all remain unknown?
Guarded
King Steve x Guard Reader
The marriage was political as most royal marriages were. Your job was simple, keep Princess Natasha safe. In a world where most guards were men you had been chosen at a young age. You had been taken from your family and trained by the best knights in your kingdom. While most people only saw you as a lady in waiting, you had the skills to ward off any kind of attack that would hurt the princess, unfortunately that would leave you vulnerable. When the day finally came you met her future husband, the kind and noble king Steven and the moment your eyes met you knew you were in trouble. Steve had felt it too, before that moment he had been willing to marry a woman he hardly knew if it meant the safety of his people and an alliance that would strengthen his kingdom. Now with you in his life, Steve was willing to give up his crown if it meant he could hold you close. But he knew better than to give into his desires especially as his enemies were preparing to strike. You would have to make a choice, give into him completely or guard your heart the same way you guard the Princess.
Bucky Barnes:
Ex Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes x Winter Soldier!Reader
Bucky had be saved by Steve, after years of missions and torture he was free. But Bucky still felt guilty for walking away. Not because he enjoyed the things they made him do but because he left you behind. You were in the same situation he was. He didn't even know your name or how you ended up in the hand of Hydra but you had been the only good in his life for years. Hydra wasn't known for their kindness even letting you and Bucky be together was a way for them to control you. Now without Bucky you suffered the consequences until you couldn't remember him anymore. In his new found freedom Bucky hadn't asked for much until he was face to face with you on a mission. He knew he had to save you even if you refused to be with him ever again. How could he not save the love of his life.
Tony Stark:
Scars
Tony Stark x Reader soulmate AU
Soulmates were determined through scars, if you were hurt it would appear on your soulmate’s skin as a birthmark. Imagine your surprise when you received a birthmark in the middle of your chest, there was no way your soulmate could have survived whatever gave them that injury so you thought they had passed. It wasn’t until the press conference in which Tony Stark revealed he was Ironman that you realized that he was your soulmate. Of course it was your luck that your soulmate was someone unattainable, until your friend interferes and you find yourself working side by side with the man himself. But it wouldn’t be as easy as meeting him and falling in love, he was in a relationship and so many people had tried to convince him they were his mate that it put him off of the idea. All you could do was sit by and watch him fall in love with someone else.
Thor Odinson
A love for the ages
Thor Odinson x Reader soulmate AU
It was a love for the ages. One that outlived the people that saw it transpire. Lovers destined for each other bound together by fate, separated by a curse. Thor Odinson was an immortal who had given up on finding his soulmate, something that he found liberating allowing him to travel anywhere he wished seeking glory. You had been an unwilling time traveler, the only one of your kind. At first it was difficult, you had no one but slowly you began to make friends in different time periods. It was bittersweet to see them at different times in their lives as they found their soulmates and were able to live their lives freely while you couldn’t even control when or where you traveled too. So you had given up on finding your soulmate, what kind of life could you have if you couldn’t control how long you stayed somewhere? The last thing either of you expected was to find your soulmate in the middle of a battlefield but there you were. After so much time apart, finally being tethered to your soulmate came with the feeling of being home. Too bad you would absolutely hate each other.
Sam Wilson
Dragon Rider (working title)
King!Sam Wilson x Dragon Rider!Reader AU
There had been peace in all the realms for a few years. But there had been a price to pay for peace. For you it was the loss of your father, the last dragon rider and his dragon. Or so everyone thought. Before he died he taught you everything he knew and left you with the last dragon egg, which would hatch when the rider was ready. Now with the threat of a new war and whispers of a dragon rider you had to leave your home to find safety in another village. That’s how you found yourself in the kingdom of Sam Wilson, The Falcon King. It didn’t take long for the King’s men to find you and bring you to the king. What you never expected was for him to be welcoming and promise protection without even asking why you were running. When the threat of war becomes a reality you and Sam will have to put any feelings you might have for each other in order to protect the kingdom.
Ransom Drysdale:
Lights, Camera, Action
Actor!Ransom Drysdale x Plus Size Actress!Reader
This was your big break, to be cast in a leading role that had nothing to do with being plus sized. You wanted to show everyone that any actor of any body type could play a role other than the designated fat friend. Although you were a series regular on a show this movie would be the role that would put you on the map and you were more than ready to act your ass off. Ransom Drysdale was Hollywood’s golden boy, but much was left to be desired when it came to his attitude on set. So when you find out the leading man had been recast and Ransom took the role you had to prepare yourself in order to work alongside him. However you were caught off guard when he began to treat you and only you differently. As you begin to get closer and a relationship starts to form he lets you see who he really is. But this is Hollywood and the only happy endings that exist are in movies, or are they?  Between filming, falling in love and rumors of cheating Ransom will have to prove that he isn’t the person everyone says he is and you will have to decide what you believe.
Someone You Loved
Ransom Drysdale x Plus Sized!Reader
As hard as it is to believe now Ransom Drysdale wasn’t always an asshole, at least that’s what he called himself. You had been in college when you first met and you were smitten. It should have never worked, you were from different social circles, your families from different economic backgrounds, he was the most eligible bachelor on campus and you were, well you. You didn’t know who was worse: the men that asked you out as a joke saying they could never date a fattie or the women that talked behind your back and criticized everything about you. Then Ransom noticed you and nothing else mattered. Not his family or yours. He would be your first and only love until he broke your heart. You wouldn’t see him for a few years until you move back to Boston and you come face to face with the trustfund prick. Ransom knew he fucked up the best thing he’d ever had the minute he saw the tears in your eyes, and having you back in his life gave him hope for a second chance. You just won’t make it easy for him.
Unwritten
Ransom Drysdale x Single mom!Reader
You were running from your abusive ex and with your money running low you couldn’t be more thankful to land a job as a personal assistant at a publishing company. That was all you needed to keep you and your daughter safe and away from your ex. Ransom Drysdale was on thin ice with HR and his grandfather for sleeping with every single one of his personal assistants. This was his last chance to prove he could do the work and not think with his dick. The moment you stepped into his office he knew he had to have you but you had other priorities. He was demanding and irritating and you made sure to put him in his place if necessary. Once Ransom realized you weren’t going anywhere he decided to change tactics which caused you to introduce him to your daughter. She was crazy about Ransom and sure enough he was crazy about her. Your life however, couldn’t be this easy and soon enough your ex finds you. He doesn’t count on the fact that you aren’t alone anymore and that Ransom will fight tooth and nail to make sure his girls are safe.

Stucky Soulmate AUs Masterlist

A Life Most Random (ao3) - SkyisGray E, 13k
Summary: Whether it's fate or chance bringing them together over the years, Bucky can't stand that asshole Steve Rogers.
Baby it's a violent world (ao3) - viverella G, 5k

(Soulmates AU)
counting backwards while the stars are falling (ao3) - girl0nfire E, 10k
Summary: But tonight’s different, Bucky knows it before he’s even completely asleep, because in that half-aware space somewhere between dreaming and consciousness he feels his skin prickling, his chest clenching like he’s lost something and he doesn’t know what it is, never even had it, and as oblivion overtakes him, all Bucky sees is the same face he’s seen in his dreams for years.
Even if I Don't Know How to Say it (ao3) - Luckie T, 8k
Summary: Based off the post on Tumblr about Soulmates getting the first words they say to each other as tattoos. In this AU, the tattoos appear the first time the pair meet.
Flare (ao3) - WishingStar M, 6k
Summary: Some people choose their soulmates, fostering a bond over years of trust and intimacy. Others—well, they flare instead. Flaring betrays a lack of discipline, people say. It's improper, bonding out of wedlock. It's risky, leaving your soulmate up to chance, when a flare won't always distinguish between an appropriate match and a deviant one. And there's something vaguely sordid about bonding through a surge of uncontrollable lust.
Steve never meant to flare with anyone, least of all with Bucky Barnes.
Following the Map that Leads to You (ao3) - Squeaky G, 15k
Summary: When Steve was young, his mother taught him that you could find your soulmate by thinking of your soulmarks and pointing at a map. But she never told him what to do if you met your soulmate - and then lost him.
Lucky for Steve, Clint won't leave this kind of shit alone.
I Could Make a Career of Being Blue (ao3) - LinguisticJubilee G, 2k
Summary: Sleeping for seventy years has upended Steve's life, but the one thing he never expected to change was his soulmate.
Looks like he was wrong about that.
Immortal Beloved (ao3) - debwalsh, the_girl_without_a_face E, 5k
Summary: As if in every lifetime Bucky and Steve are supposed to meet and fall in love.
my heart's a ticking clock (ao3) - Anonymous G, 4k
Summary: “He was informed of the situation as ‘there’s a guy in the hospital with your time on a blue, and he’s in on soulmate related conditions, hurt himself watching your interview’. Not a great way to be told, especially for him.” She exhales through her nose. “He’s been kind of out of his mind, waiting for this meeting."
OR
Bucky has a blue timer, the color signifying that its a romantic relationship, and so does Captain America. His sister forces him to watch the Captain's first interview and he... well, you could say he reacts badly. Also, everyone has a crush on Steve.
Steve Rogers & The Inappropriate Soulmark (ao3) - thepinupchemist T, 2k
Summary: Steve’s words went like this:
I can’t say I mind being complimented on my dicks
Wherein Steve's first encounter with his soulmate is through the internet.
Story of Us (ao3) - misspunkrock E, 11k
Summary: “And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you.”
In a world where people can't see color until they meet their Match, Bucky meets Steve when they're both too young to understand what it means to even have a soulmate.
Take My Soul, Make It Undone (ao3) - earthseraph T, 5k
Summary: (or: the soulmates au where the Gods really want Steve and Bucky to get together)
the bruises that we share (ao3) - haveufoundwhaturlookingfor T, 3k
Summary:
Soulmate AU. Sharing the same injuries/bruises. Pre-War. Skinny!Steve doesn’t like bullies, and often finds himself getting beat up, leaving bruises littered all over his body. Steve doesn’t really think about his soulmate when he gets himself in these situations, figuring someone like him won’t end up with his soulmate. Then, Bucky enters the picture.
There's a Common Thread (that keeps me hanging tight) (ao3) - hybridshade (shimyaku) E, 11k
Summary: Steve and Bucky grew up in a world of backstreets rife with magic and enchantment, and when the time was right they formed a Soul Bond, a permanent connection from one heart to another. But then the war happened, pulling at their seams until it eventually ripped them apart in the worst way possible. Unfortunately when one's Soul-Bonded dies, they are left with a long, drawn-out death of their own to look forward to.
When Steve is subsequently woken in a more science-driven future, he keeps a tight lid on his grief and the slow decaying of his body. That is, until he is faced with a new and unforeseen foe - one who wears the face of his dead Bonded, and whose touch brings him to his knees.
The Silver Line (ao3) - belovedmuerto T, 5k
Summary: Steve asks his mother exactly once, how you know you've met your soulmate. How do you tell?
The World's at Stake (ao3) - Atsadi T, 16k
Summary: Few soulmates are separated at birth by too much time – but when the distance becomes greater than one year all bets are off, with five years’ difference being equally as unusual as fifty.
Yet the one rule that has never been broken is that the soulmates’ lifespans always overlap.
So it came as something of a shock to the young boy in an orphanage in Brooklyn, New York, when his soul mark came in at the age of twelve and told him that his soulmate had been dead for almost sixty years.
To Forgive a Murder (ao3) - SpacePunkStevie M, 24k
Summary: The issue of the Winter Soldier is, truth be told, a dire and intractable problem for Steve Rogers (and, indeed, for at least one powerful government and at least one frustrating millionaire). But this was a dire and intractable problem that had been handed to Steve by fate - or something like it - when he was given Bucky Barnes as a soulmate.
There were a lot of complaints that Steve would like to lodge with fate.

Ages ago, @awrubyblue made some fanart with Bucky finding a pocket size version of Steve. (Sadly I am unable to find them now, or I would link to them.)
My shipper brain immediately ran wild with a new type of Soulmate AU. Where you get a little version of your soulmate to carry around - I called it Pockets AU. And after blabbing on and on and on and on and on to my friend @subluxate about it, they made this AMAZING fic.
I finally remembered to ask permission to post it. I hope you enjoy. (Let me know if you do, they also wrote a fic about Steeb after Steve gets the serum.)
---
Characters: Sarah Rogers, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Steeb, Booky
Timeline: 1910s, very pre CA:TFA
Pairing: Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes
Genre: Soulmates, Kids, Wholesome, Shortfic, idk genres anymore just tropes
Word Count: 898
Steven is still snoring away when Sarah walks back to the bed they share. He’s rosy-cheeked, not fever-flushed like he tends to be when he makes noise like that, but then it’s getting to be autumn and his allergies do kick up around the middle of September.
“Wake up, love,” she says over the monstrous sounds coming from her wee lad. “Time for breakfast.”
His ready alertness, such a trial when he’s ill, is a blessing the precious times he’s well. He pushes himself up and smiles at her, covering a yawn with his hand. He thinks she doesn’t know he’s lost a tooth a bit before it was ready to come out, which tells her all she needs to know about how he lost it.
The yawn ends on a tiny squeak. Steven stares at her, his eyes huge in his narrow face.
“Got a pet mouse, have you?” Sarah asks for lack of anything else to say.
He shakes his head. “I didn’t do that.” He drops his hand from his mouth, and his thumb brushes against his pocket. A moment later, he’s yanked the pocket open--oh, she’s glad he didn’t pop a stitch, she has enough patching to do already--and is staring down into it. “Mama?”
Steven hasn’t called her ‘Mama’ since he declared himself a big boy on his birthday. “What is it?” she asks, already resigned to a dying kitten he found and forgot to mention.
He dips his other hand into the pocket. His fingers wiggle, and then he’s got hold of whatever it is and is drawing it free of the fabric. It whines and rolls over in Steven’s hand, burying its face against the ball of his thumb.
Sarah’s seen smaller, but not in some years, not since her younger sister woke to a similar little being sleeping under her hair. “That’s not a mouse,” she tells her son.
He shakes his head, his eyes never leaving the Pocket curling up in his hand. “It’s a Pocket,” he breathes. “Mama, I have a Pocket!”
Every house should have at least one, Sarah thinks as she leans down to kiss Steven’s forehead and get a better look at the pajama-clad little Pocket in her wee lad’s hand. “You’ll have to name your Pocket,” she tells him.
“I gotta think about it.” He sounds more congested, but he’s alert and still not fevered, so she stands and doesn’t stop him following her out to breakfast.
“I’m sorry we haven’t a thing for you to wear,” she tells the dark-haired little Pocket before she leaves for work, while Steven yanks on his short pants. “I’ll try to make you something tonight. Steven, mind the hems!”
The Pocket gives her a wide, sweet smile. He’s missing a tooth himself, the lower right front. She knew lads with smiles like that when she was a child herself, always either the most trouble or the most loyal. He babbles at her, a wash of playful happiness in the sounds, and Sarah wishes she could kiss his head.
Not that it would bother Steven or his Pocket, of course, but something always feels wrong to Sarah when she touches someone else’s Pocket. That seemed more common at home, but maybe it’s just living in the tenements and crowds that makes people so indifferent here. Half the time, they never seem to notice their hand has passed through a bit of someone’s love and soul.
“Make sure he names you today,” she continues to the Pocket. “He’s a mite stubborn sometimes, so you make sure he understands if you like a name, all right? Don’t go letting him run all over you.”
“Ma,” Steven groans at her. He finishes buttoning his shirt. “You’re giving him a bad impression of me!” His voice sounds thicker than it has the rest of the morning, enough that it takes her a moment to understand his words.
“A bad impression it might be, but an accurate one,” she says. “Remember your handkerchiefs, mind your teacher, I love you.” She kisses her boy’s head and lets herself out and does not worry about him making it to school on his own, just as she hasn’t worried since his first day.
-
She should have worried, she realizes when she gets home to find her son with a bruise rising on his jaw, a sturdy dark-haired lad about a year older than him, and the mending basket pulled out between them.
“Oh, Steven,” she sighs, since he’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t. “Who’s your friend, then?”
“Ma, this is Booky.” He sounds even worse than when she left, but it’s nothing a bit of steam won’t help. “Booky, this is my ma.”
“Booky?” she asks the lad, since she’s certain she hasn’t heard Steven correctly.
Possibly Booky hops to his feet. “Bucky, ma’am.” He smiles at her, sweet and wide and missing a tooth. “James Buchanan Barnes. I go to school with Stevie.”
“Steeb,” Steven grumbles, but he doesn’t do more than that.
“Nah, remember? That’s Steeb,” Bucky says, pointing to the tiniest Pocket Sarah has ever seen. He has wispy blond hair and looks as though he’s trying to climb Steven. “An’ that’s Booky.” This time, he points to the one rummaging through the mending.
“He’s not Booky!”
“He’s Booky,” Bucky confides to Sarah.
At least she can kiss the top of his head.
