Harry hears the sound of the Floo, and then Sirius’s booming voice. “Where are my favorite Potters?”

“Grandpa!”

Harry rolls his eyes as his three children leap up and hurry into the living room. He follows, watching as the three of them dart around Sirius and throw themselves at Remus.

“Oof!” Remus says. James surpassed him in height over a year ago, and AJ caught up to him over the winter hols. Lily isn’t far off, and so Remus is completely engulfed by the three of them. “Hello, loves.”

Sirius puts his hands on his hips in mock outrage. “And where’s my hug?”

James, AJ, and Lily disentangle themselves from Remus and, ignoring Sirius entirely, go back to what they were doing. Sirius’s mouth drops open. “I don’t even get a hello?”

James sighs and looks at Harry. “Dad?”

Harry rolls his eyes again and says, “The kids want me to tell you that they’re not speaking to you.” 

“What? Why?” Now Sirius really is outraged. “What did I do?”

James, AJ, and Lily look at Harry. Harry shakes his head. 

“I’m not doing this all night. If you have something to say to Grandad, do it yourself.”

“Grandpa, tell Grandad he shouldn’t have assigned us so much bloody homework over the summer,” AJ says to Remus.

Remus’s eyebrows shoot up, but he turns to Sirius and says, “The kids aren’t talking to you because you assigned--”

“Yes, thank you, I heard,” Sirius says. “You and James have OWLs and NEWTs next year. You both need to be prepared.”

“What about me?” Lily pipes up. “I don’t have OWLs and NEWTs.”

“You still need to keep your skills sharp.”

“That’s not fair!”

“Grandpa never gave us summer homework,” AJ says. 

“They’ve got a point, Sirius,” Remus says. “Their previous Defense teacher never gave them summer homework.” 

“Well, maybe their previous Defense teacher shouldn’t have had a run-in with a bunch of Inferi that resulted in him having to take a year-long leave of absence!”

“That’s true,” Remus concedes. “I probably shouldn’t have done that.”

“You’re still coming back next year, Grandpa, right?” AJ asks hopefully. “We don’t have to have Grandad again?”

“Hey!”

“Actually, kids, that’s what we wanted to tell you at dinner tonight.” Remus slips an arm around Sirius’s waist and leans into him. “I am coming back next year, but so is Grandad. We’re going to be co-teaching Defense.” 

“Really?” Harry says. “That’s great!” 

“Okay, but we don’t have to do our homework, right?” James says.

“Sorry, James Sirius, but you still have to do the homework Grandad assigned you. All of you do.”

James pulls a face. “You’re the worst grandparents ever.”

Cedric is a true definition of a gentleman, he undoubtedly has that chivalry touch about him, he's polite, honest, and kind. He would put your jacket around you as soon as he noticed you shivering even just a little, offer you his arm when you're about to walk somewhere, hold a door open for you, kisses you on the forehead, kisses your hand when the both of you have to part ways and never lets you pay a cent during a date that requires paying, because he enjoys paying for you and never wants anything in return. The affection of kisses, hugs and more means the world to him.

He calls you cute nicknames like Angel, Heaven, My World, or Sweetheart.

Likes when you call him Ced, Darling, Love, Handsome, or Teddy (It's an inside joke between the two of you that Cedric is as soft and kind-looking as a teddy bear, so you kept it going with that nickname).

His love language is probably words of affirmation, he's really good at expressing his love for you through words, he mentions how much he loves you often, and he compliments you anytime he gets the chance but most of all he's always affirmed you that no matter how many people might be interested in him weather that's about his popularity, looks or personality, he'll never leave you ever and that no one can ever replace nor even come close to you. That he couldn't love a human any more than he loves you.

He likes writing your name on all your subject's books for you but instead of your family's last name, he puts down his instead so every book you own says "This book belongs to Y/N Diggory" which drives your friends crazy with excitement, even professor McGonagall was sure you'd marry him one day.

He would take you out every Sunday morning to madame Puddifoot's tea shop for some tea, with sugar and milk just how you like it, while Cedric makes it a habit to make paper rings out of the tissues provided on each table for customers, then he'd take your left-hand kisses it and put the ring on you ring finger before saying "One day It'll be a real ring that shines and glimmer the way your eyes do when it hits the sun", that line never fails to make you smile and blush, so you smile at him kindly while he returns it sipping your tea away.

You have to get on your tippy toes to kiss him because he's built like a tree which never fails to make him laugh and smile at how adorable you are, but you'd pout every time he laughs at you so in return he lowers himself to your level and says "go on" then you would smile and ruffle his hair as messy as you can which leave the both of you to laugh and blush.

He uses his prefect power to go out after hours, his excuse is that he's patrolling around the castle before bed and sneak you up to the astronomy tower when there's no class available and stargaze there, then he'd ramble about all the stars that he knows about which you find really interesting and amusing.

He's the best at giving advice about anything and you've always taken it without hesitation because his advice has worked in your favor every time, he just seems to know what's best for you always.

Him chasing you all over the place to give him a hug after Hufflepuff's quidditch practice when he's all sweaty, smelly, and sticky.

When it comes to sex he's very gentle with you making sure to put you first before himself and a praiser too, despite how much you drive him crazy with lust because of how attractive you are to him, so it's mostly slow, passionate sex but when he's in the mood to just please you, he gets you to sit on his lap while he fingers you, touch your breast and kiss your neck and shoulder as you moan in pleasure. He loves the sight of you walking towards the great hall for breakfast on the weekend after you've just woken up with his jumper on, slightly messy hair, sweats, and slippers on, what makes it better is the way you greet him good morning with your sleepy voice and a kiss to top it all off never fails to make him smile brightly and blush too.

He likes watching you sleep, he finds you to look so peaceful and effortlessly gorgeous doing nothing but breathing easy while closing your eyes, dreaming away about something good he hopes.

Despite him being sweet and patient most of the time with you, he's not afraid to argue back if he finds you to be too stubborn about something.

Shows you off proudly in front of anyone and everyone he could, talk about you often, mention how lucky he is to have you in his life and how he could never survive with you, not now not ever at this point.

Writes you cute yet unexpected love letters, notes, and paper balls with doodles of the two of you together, and no matter how many he makes/sends you've managed to keep and saved them all, which Cedric doesn't know about and by now you'd have thousands of letters, notes and paper balls filled with doodles made by him.

He smiles a lot around you and is the type of person who makes good eye contact even if he doesn't like that person that way in general.

Amos and Mrs. Diggory loves having you around their house and would often invite your whole family to join/celebrate things like Christmas for example in their home, just hoping that you and Cedric will be married together one day and untie both of your families into one big and beautiful one.

He lets you dress him up in your clothes for fun, put makeup on him, and even tie his hair into a short ponytail. He puts up with it all just to see you laugh your nose off, as long as you're happy he's happy too.

Whenever you achieve something big and you'd tell him excitedly he picks you up in the air and spins you around laughing with you and saying "I'm so proud of you my sweetheart" with a huge smile on his face before putting you down and giving you a passionate kiss.

preview: after a rough breakup you come over to draco’s dorm to gather a few of your belongings, but is draco really over you?

warnings: breakups, mentions of insomnia, not eating, sad draco, angst with a happy ending

you sighed before knocking on the door of draco’s dorm, awaiting for an answer. it was opened almost immediately, and the view you got hurt your heart more than you’d like to admit. you were met with a completely devastated draco, hair messy and not perfectly neat as it’d usually be and huge eye bags announcing he hadn’t slept properly in days.

even after all this, in your eyes draco still looked quite beautiful.

draco let out a breathy, “hi.” which you nodded to, forcing a smile. “hi, draco. i don’t mean to bother i’ve just come to gather my belongings.” you saw draco’s eyes widen, tears being accumulated at the corner of his eyes begging to be let go. “draco, what’s wrong?” you asked genuinely concerned, putting a hand on his shoulder.

he let out a sob, and from there he broke down. his knees gave up and he fell to the floor, shaking. you also fell to the floor, pulling him into you while he cried into your chest. “hey, hey draco listen i know we’re broken up but i’ll always take care of you, okay? tell me what’s wrong.” he shook his head, sitting up on wobbly legs to get your stuff.

in around ten minutes he walked to the door again, a box in his hand with all your belongings, but he kept one on his other hand. a teddy bear he’d gotten you on your first date. “here you have it. but i have one question.” you nodded, telling him to go ahead and ask. “can- can i keep this?” with hopeful eyes, he held the teddy close to his chest.

“why?”

you were still quite confused to why draco wanted to keep something that belonged to you. he was over you after all right? right? suddenly he interrupted your line of thought. “it’s- it’s just the only thing i have of you, and it-it still smells like you a-and fuck it i’m not over you.” he bit his lip, awaiting for an answer. “what?”

“i’m not over you. y/n, you’re the love if of my life and i can’t believe a stupid argument took you away from me. yes i was stupid, selfish, egocentric, and i don’t deserve you. i really don’t. i don’t want you to pity me, you deserve better, j-just please let me keep this. i love you.” his voice cracked at the last sentence and you could tell he was about to break down in tears again.

draco was met with silence, silence that gave him the answer he didn’t want to hear. of course you didn’t want him back, after all the shit he said? no way. he gave you the plush toy hesitantly, turned around to whisper a last ‘i love you’ and as he was about to shut the door you stoped it. “draco, wait!”

“i-i think we can fix this. to be honest i’m not over you either.” you saw how he instantly looked happier, and it made your heart soar. “really? you mean that?” you nodded, giggling at his excitement. “you’d, you’d really be mine again?” draco was still in disbelief. “yes, draco. but i will have to set a few boundaries first, i’m still hurt. i hope you understand.” draco nodded enthusiastically.

“anything. i don’t want to make you uncomfortable.” you beamed at this, opening your arms for him to hug you. for once things felt like they were gonna be alright.

Alright, here's my Next Generation Couple/Sexual & Gender Identity Head canons, or, some of them:

Scorbus is obviously real. Scorpius is bisexual, and Albus is gay. They start dating in their 6th Year.

Teddy is gender fluid and uses he/they pronouns.

Remus and Sirius are both gay and they dated. It's cannon you can fight me.

I just know Percy Weasley and Oliver Wood messed around. Oliver gives off strong aromantic pansexual energy, and Percy is just so obviously bisexual.

Fleur Delacour and Lily Potter the 1st just have strong bisexual energy to me

Luna Lovegood is literally the most pansexual a pansexual person can get. It's so obvious that her and Ginny Weasley dated at some point.

Speaking of, Ginny just gives me some real lesbian vibes. Idk why but she just does.

Harry Potter is bisexual and Hermione Granger is straight, and they end up together. Screw Ron.

Cedric Diggory is panromantic asexual.

I'm pretty sure this is widely agreed with, but Charlie Weasley is aromantic asexual.

Molly Weasley ii is lesbian.

mating woes

Confession: I love omegaverse and simultaneously have absolutely no idea how the omegaverse actually works. So I’m just making shit up here. Content warning for, well, basically everything that omegaverse entails.

Harry catches a strange, sweet-sour scent as he hugs his brother. Pulling back, he holds Teddy by the shoulders, frowning at him. 

“What?” Teddy asks, shifting uncomfortably.

“You smell weird.” 

“Rude,” Teddy mutters, pulling out of Harry’s grip and giving Ginny a hug. “Hiya, Gin.”

“Hi, Teddy. You smell lovely as ever.”

“Thank you. You should teach your husband some manners, you know.”

“Believe me, I’ve tried.”

But Harry knows that something isn’t right, and he also knows that Ginny wouldn’t be able to pick up on it, being a beta. “Teddy, what’s wrong? Are you ill?”

“I’m fine.” 

He isn’t. There’s something off about his little brother. That scent also reminds Harry of something, something he’s smelled before, but not recently. He sniffs the air again, and his brain says Ginny. But that doesn’t make any sense, why would Teddy smell like Ginny? 

It hits him like a thunderclap. Ginny hasn’t smelled that way in years, not since Lily was born. Harry’s mouth drops open. “Teddy…are you pregnant?”

“Shh!” 

Harry gapes at him. “Are you?”

Teddy grabs his arm and drags him into the kitchen, Ginny on their heels. The door swings shut behind them.

“Can you not?” Teddy hisses. “Do you have to announce it to the whole world?” 

“Who’s the other father?” Harry demands. “You didn’t tell me you were seeing anyone! And you’re definitely not mated.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Teddy says. 

Sirius is going to have a fit. “It absolutely does matter! Teddy, Dad’s gonna lose his mind.”

“No, he won’t. Listen, they’ll be here at seven, yeah? Tell them I came a bit early to see the kids, I wasn’t feeling well, and I went home. I’ll see them for dinner next Sunday, okay?”

“That doesn’t solve the problem! You’ll still be pregnant then!” Harry says. “Wait, you will, won’t you?”

“Yeah, but I’ll--I don’t know, I’ll be better at masking it or something by then!” 

“Da is an omega and a werewolf, you’ll never be able to mask anything from him.”

Teddy groans and drops into the nearest chair, burying his head in his hands.

“Teddy,” Ginny says tentatively, “how long have you known?”

“Two days.” 

“How far along are you?” Harry asks. 

“Does it matter?”

“Yeah, Ted, it kind of matters!” 

“My last heat was twelve weeks ago, happy?”

“You spent your heat with someone, he knocked you up, and didn’t even bother to mate you? And it’s been three months?” Harry runs his fingers through his hair. “Sirius is gonna skin him alive. You realize that, right?”

“Not if I don’t tell him who it is,” Teddy says sullenly.

“He will find out.” Sirius can be a bit terrifying like that, honestly. “Teddy, listen to me. It will be worse if he has to find out on his own. You need to tell us who it is.” 

“Ugh, why does Dad have to be so bloody alpha all the time?” Teddy groans. 

“It’s his biology, Ted, he can’t help it.” 

“You’re not like that.” 

“Well, I don’t have an omega child who is pregnant and unmated!” Harry says heatedly. “I’m sure I’d feel differently if I did. Who is it?”

Teddy sags in his seat. His scent has soured further; now he’s clearly distressed. “You’re going to hate me.” 

Harry sighs. “You’re my little brother. I could never hate you.” 

“It’s Cedric.”

“Cedric,” Harry repeats. “Cedric Diggory?”

“Yeah.”

“Teddy, he’s twenty years older than you!” And, frankly, Cedric should know better. Spending a heat with an unmated omega, what was he thinking? Unmated sex was one thing, everyone did that before they settled down, but unmated heats were quite another. Not to mention the unmated omega son of Lord Sirius Black. 

“And he’s your ex.”

Harry waves that away. “We dated when we were kids, I don’t care about that. Do you like him?”

“I love him.”

“Then the best thing you can do for him is go Floo him, right now, tell him about the baby, and then tell him he has fifteen minutes to get his arse over here and present himself to our parents,” Harry says. “And then maybe, just maybe, Sirius won’t murder him on the spot.” 

“Go on, Teddy,” Ginny says. “Use the Floo in Harry’s office.” 

Seven minutes later, Teddy comes back into the kitchen with Cedric Diggory, who is wearing what looks like his most expensive set of dress robes and is white as a sheet.

“Hi, Cedric.” Harry offers his hand and what he hopes is a comforting smile, though it feels like a grimace. “Congratulations. And, er, my condolences.” 

Cedric swallows. “How bad is it going to be?”

“Play your cards right, and he might not kill you.”

“Harry,” Ginny admonishes. She goes over to Cedric and lays a hand on his arm. “It’s going to be fine.”

Cedric relaxes slightly. Ginny has always been a much better liar than Harry.

The doorbell chimes--Sirius and Remus must have taken the bike tonight--and everyone tenses. Teddy gives Cedric a quick hug, pressing his face into the side of Cedric’s neck and breathing deeply--scenting him for comfort. Well, well, Harry thinks. Maybe his baby brother has fallen in love after all. 

“Where are my favorite grandkids?” Sirius’s voice booms through the house, and there are pounding feet on the stairs. Harry, Ginny, Teddy, and Cedric come out of the kitchen to see Sirius embracing James, AJ, and Lily. He releases the kids to Moony, and then looks up. Surprise flits across his face.

“Teddy!” he says, delighted. “I didn’t know you were joining us tonight, kiddo. And…Cedric? Is that you?”

“Lord Black,” Cedric says, inclining his head. He’s still pale, but holds on to his composure. 

“You’ve certainly grown,” Sirius says, clasping Cedric’s hand. “I didn’t realize you and Harry still kept in touch.”

“We don’t,” Harry says. “Cedric’s here because he has something to ask you.” 

Cedric hesitates. He’s trembling slightly, clearly fighting every single one of his alpha instincts. Slowly, inch by inch, he sinks to his knees, until he’s kneeling on the floor in front of Sirius, head bowed. Harry feels his eyebrows shoot up into his hairline. Simply bowing low would have been enough. For one alpha to kneel before another…that’s unheard of, and frankly something that is bound to impress Sirius. 

Sirius simply stares in shock at the alpha kneeling in front of him, but Remus goes over to Teddy. He sniffs the air, and says, “You’re pregnant.” 

“What?” Sirius’s head snaps up. “You’re what?”

“Pregnant, Dad,” Teddy says, in a small voice Harry isn’t accustomed to hearing from him. 

“It’s Cedric’s?” Remus asks, and Teddy nods. 

“I see,” Sirius says, his expression growing stony. Suddenly, the room reeks of alpha. He looks back down at Cedric. “So you’re asking for permission to mate my son? You should have thought of that before you knocked him up.”

“Yes, alpha,” Cedric says. 

Sirius circles him slowly. “How long?”

“Twelve weeks,” Teddy says weakly.

“Twelve weeks? You spent a heat with an unmated omega and he is still unmated twelve weeks later?” Sirius asks. “Were you ever intending to mate him, Diggory?”

“Yes, alpha.” 

“Dad, come on,” Teddy says. He tries to step forward, but Remus holds him back. “Are you gonna give him your blessing or not?” 

Sirius looks up. His grey eyes have turned amber, and his incisors have sharpened slightly. 

“This is the one you want?” he asks Teddy, who nods.

“Yes.” 

“When is your next rut?” Sirius asks Cedric.

“Next week, alpha.” 

“You’ll mate him then,” he says. Teddy nods vigorously, and Cedric says, “Yes, alpha.” 

“Stand up.”

Cedric quickly gets to his feet, and Teddy goes over to him, taking his hand and lacing their fingers together. 

“You have my consent,” Sirius sighs, and Teddy beams before throwing his arms around Cedric’s neck. Sirius’s gaze lands on James, AJ, and Lily, and he says sternly, “You three! You will not spend your heats or your ruts with anyone while unmated, got it? Don’t be like your uncle.” 

“Yes, Grandpa,” they chorus. Remus rolls his eyes at them over Sirius’s shoulder, and they stifle laughter. Sirius turns to his husband, and Remus takes his hand. 

“Thank you for not hexing the father of your future grandchild, Padfoot.”

“You mean like your father did to me?” Sirius huffs. 

“To be fair, love, you didn’t show him the proper respect.” 

“He wanted me to bow to him!” 

“Alphas,” Remus sighs. “You’re all alike.” 

Teddy finally disentangles himself from Cedric and goes over to his parents. Remus sweeps him into a hug. 

“I’m so happy for you, Teddy Bear,” he says. “How have you been feeling?”

“Bit sick, but it’s not too bad,” Teddy says. “Tired, mostly.”

“I’ll get you the name of the midwife I used. She was a wonderful help throughout the pregnancy,” Remus says. “You can also call me, day or night, with any questions you have.” 

Sirius steps in to also hug Teddy.

“I love you,” he says into Teddy’s bright blue curls, “even if you are a little shit.” 

“Love you, too, Dad.” Teddy steps out of his arms, wrinkling his nose. “Did you have to stink up the room with your alphaness, though? Like, geez, we get it.”

Sirius looks affronted. “I did not stink up the room!”

“You totally did.” Teddy grabs Cedric’s hand. “It reeks in here. It’s practically alpha soup, which is super gross. So, we’re gonna beg off tonight.” 

“We’ll see you both for dinner next Sunday?” Harry asks, amused, as Teddy starts to drag Cedric toward his office and the Floo.

“Properly mated!” Sirius calls after them.

“Yeah, yeah, we’ll be mated and everything, don’t worry. Bye, Harry! Bye, dads!” 

“Brat,” Sirius mutters. “He gets that from you, you know.” 

“You love it,” Remus says, and Harry makes a face. 

“You two are gross.”

Headcanons about Fathers in the Wizarding world

People would walk up to Arthur and say “you must be proud of your children” but mostly, they all meant Fred but Arthur would always answer the same way: “which one? They are all people to be proud of.”

James Potter always rocked Harry to sleep by telling him stories about his school time pranks: “and then, Mcgonagall said :“the rule is that there should be no students out of bed at night!” And then I said :“but we aren’t out of bed minnie!!!” And poined to all of us. You know, since all four of us were on my floating bed”” and he would smile and chuckle at Harry’s laughing face. It never made Harry go to sleep tho and it made Lily pissed.

When Remus held Teddy for the first time, he finally understood how James was able to die for Harry without a second thought. He had held Teddy for only five seconds and he knew he would die for him in a heartbeat.

When Frank Longbottom heard the death eaters come in and grab Alice he sent a patronous to his mother and asked her to come get Neville. He put a Silencing charm and a glamour charm on Neville and went to his wife. No matter how much they asked him where his son was he never spoke a word.

Mr. Granger always took Hermione on trips in summer so they would get to spend some time together before she went to school. He also got really mad when he saw a boy named Victor Krum was sending his little girl letters and had a long talk with Hermione about how boys only want one thing and onw thing only.

When Hugo asked Ron how to talk to girls when he was a teenager Ron would just look at him and say: “I have no idea mate. Ask your uncles.” This was always the moment where Rose or Hermione would hear this and do a facepalm.

After fixing his relationship with his father, Albus came out to his family in his fifth year. The first person who hugged him was Harry. After hugging him he told Albus it didn’t change how any of the family members felt about him and they all loved him the same. And then he told Albus that everyone kinda knew. Which was a shcok to Albus, since he didn’t know it himself.

Amos Diggory always visits Cedric on Sunday mornings and gives an update on what has happened in the past week. It’s not enough, nothing will ever be enough. But it’s the best he can do.

No matter how troubled he was as a teenager and no matter how many mistakes he made, Draco was saved when Scorpious was born. Everyday he tried to be just a little bit better from the day before.

When Bill found out that Teddy and Victorie are dating, it wasn’t pretty. He had let Teddy come play at his house ever since he was a child and he felt betrayed but everytime he saw Vicky light up upon seeing Teddy, he would push his anger aside and smile, at least Teddy wasn’t a jerk who would break his daughter’s heart.

And the last but not least is an honorary mention to a man who wasn’t a father but tried his best to be one. I’m giving this one to Sirius Black. He tried so hard to honor Lily and James’ memory, be Harry’s friend, be Harry’s father and be his role model. But alas he could not. Maybe if Sirius had just a bit more time he would’ve been a better father but considering the circumstances, he was the best he could be.

Since Harry could not tell Fred and George apart until Deathly Hallows he thought Fred asked Angalina Johnson to the Yule ball but it was actually George whilst Fred went with their Friend Lee Jordan.

During the Champions Dance at the Yule ball Harry and Cedric Diggory gaze lovingly at each other over their partners shoulders

Krum asked Hermionie to the Yule ball 5 times before she said yes because Hermionie was hoping for Ron to ask her

Ron was too scared to ask Hermione to the Yule ball because he was scared that she might laugh in his face about it

Instead of dating each other Dean dated Seamus and Ginny dated Luna because I love the Gays

Literally NONE of the Marauders were straight

Remus and Sirius had a beautifully healthy Gay realationship

Regulus was secretly Gay and really crushing hard on one James Fleamont Potter until the day he dies

Grindelwald and Dumbledore actually had a loving relationship it started going downhill after Ariana died

Pansy Parenson was a fucking pick me girl

Lavender survived the Battle of Hogwarts but with really bad scars(like Bill) she ended up marrying her best friend Parvati and then living in the flat over their Daycare where they teach Basic magic and muggle skills (like math)

Parvati and Lavender  volunteer at St Mungos on weekends and they help fight for werewolf rights

Teddy could not play Quidditch for shit he was too clumsy (like his birth giver)

Misc Magical Abilities: Like her siblings, Em is a Legilimens--although she did not recognize the power until late in her 6th year.

Boggart Form: Her inner demons are her downfall. Her Riddikulus form makes the entire room dark, leaving her in the spotlight, standing in front of the glowing column of a Cursed Vault, while shadows of her past begin to echo her worst thoughts. Most of them pertained Jacob’s permanent disappearance, or her older sister abandoning her for good. She just cannot stand the thought of standing there, helpless while her family suffered.

Riddikulus Form: Her Riddikulus form is of the demons popping like soap bubbles all around her, the voices warbled with every bubble that rose. The prevailing darkness will fade as well. The Cursed Vault will become a giant teddy bear. 

Amortentia: (What do they smell like?) Freshly ground mint, cinnamon, freshly baked fudge, and tomato juice.

Patronus: If she can produce a Patronus, it would be of a black swan. A little strange when compared to Jacob’s falcon and Clara’s unicorn, but her grace and poise is not to be underestimated.

Patronus Memory: the day the tension from the Cursed Vaults finally subsided and she saw the light return to her siblings’ eyes.

Mirror of Erised: She sees herself with her older siblings, both of them genuinely smiling in happiness. Her family has completely reconciled, and she feels at peace.

Specialized/Favourite Spells: Before Em goes to Hogwarts, she knew already of the Herbivicus Charm, which her father taught her to speed up the growth of flowers. Pre Hogwarts: 

Em was around 5 or 6 when Jacob disappeared. Since then, all she had known was broken bonds and tears.

Her sister drifted away from her as well in her first 5 years at Hogwarts. She had to learn in this time to stand alone in the worst of the storm. 

1st Year: 

Em was Sorted into Hufflepuff on the first day at school

The statue curse prevailed during little Em’s first year at Hogwarts

Following the Halloween Feast, Em created the Arts and Crafts club at her friend Dawn’s suggestion--where members create many wonderful things out of everyday items

She and Clara take up Bill’s offer to go to the Burrow for Christmas.

After Rowan Khanna’s death, Em was roped into the Circle of Khanna by Diego Caplan who insisted the group needed her duelling skills

While Clara was preparing the Polyjuice Potion to infiltrate R, Em got to see all the Vaults firsthand that have been broken

Prior to Clara’s trip to the Black Lake with Ben, Merula, and Jacob, Em comes around and gives Clara a flower crown to present to the merqueen

After the curse was lifted, just as Clara threw a party at the Three Broomsticks, Em threw a party in the courtyard with the people who were unable to go to Hogsmeade

2nd Year: 

Em returns to Hogwarts for her second year prepared to help her siblings take down the rest of R

3rd Year: 

Em returns to Hogwarts without her siblings for the first time. However, it was then when she met the Boy Who Lived--Harry Potter.

The year passed pretty normally for her

4th Year: 

When the Chamber of Secrets was opened, little Em was one of the first to ensure that all the younger Hufflepuff students remained calm in this time

She already knew firsthand that Gilderoy Lockhart was suspicious, and so she wrote her mother when he was outed (and his memory was permanently wiped)

5th Year: 

Em becomes a Hufflepuff Prefect for her fifth year along with Cedric Diggory

The year that Sirius Black escaped has been a tough one for her. Imagine Percy constantly on high alert, especially since he’s Head Boy--she’s adapted his high alertness once more, fearing for the entire student body once more

Despite all this, little Em came out successful in her OWLs, obtaining an impressive eight OWLs while only failing History of Magic (she dropped Muggle Studies after her 4th year)

6th Year: 

Enter: The Goblet of Fire, and the Triwizard Tournament!

Em was too young to participate, so she ended up sitting by the sidelines cheering both her friend Cedric Diggory and Harry Potter on

She did not develop a crush on any of the boys in her year (mostly because she can’t be bothered right now with romance, maybe), but she did go to the ball with another Ravenclaw boy in her year

The loss of Cedric Diggory at the end of her 6th year had put her in another mute grief. First, she sat through Rowan Khanna’s memorial--she didn’t expect to sit through another one five years later, and one for one of her closest friends too.

7th Year:

Prior to starting her 7th year, her older sister Clara left for China

Em becomes one of the Head Girls in her 7th year, but the arrival of Dolores Umbridge and the way she instilled all these regulations made her secretly pissed off

She wholeheartedly supported Fred and George in testing their joke products so that they could make a profit out of their talents

When they left Hogwarts on their broomsticks after a while, she too was one of the few who wished she could leave the school but could not

Order of the Phoenix / 2nd Wizarding War:

Em was roped into the Order of the Phoenix along with her brother, Jacob, by none other than Professor Dumbledore immediately following graduation

While her sister was in China holding back the Japanese forces, the times they had to talk were far and few in between--however, they were able to talk when they could, and Em relayed everything that happened to her through encrypted letters sent to her grandmother

Em was the one who alerted Clara of the upcoming Battle of Hogwarts--while the siege went underway, she stuck close to Diego

Em survives the battle--she mourned for Fred and the many lives that were lost

Post-War:

Em ends up becoming a Healer at St Mungo’s, helping those who have undergone traumatic experiences during Voldemort’s rise

PERSONALITY

Though she comes off as a shy soul, little Em is not completely fragile. Behind her kind eyes laid years of suffering from her family’s arguments and broken bonds--yet she pushes forward, and her persistence does not go unnoticed

Em is always willing to offer a helping hand, even though she’s the one who needs it most.

She cares deeply for those who she ends up befriending and trusting. This also includes most of Clara’s friends at Hogwarts.

Though soft-spoken and easy to knock over, her spells could pack a serious punch.

MISC

Em’s love of Herbology came from her father, whom she loved helping in the family gardens long before Jacob’s disappearance.

She doesn’t play many instruments like her sister, but she has a decent singing voice good enough to join the Frog Choir. However, the thought of that made Em shake her head--she really only sings for fun, after all.

Em’s love for crafts came from the time Jacob gifted her a Hippogriff ornament at her first Christmas that he made himself.

“all this muggle stuff is so confusing.” both you and george had moved into the muggle world after you graduated, and even though you’ve been living there for a month things were still very confusing for him. things like how the dishwasher or the tv works, even the amount of different stuff there is in a grocery store.

“okay so we need flour and sugar, cause i wanna bake a cake tomorrow.” george beamed, knowing he loved your cooking, even more than his mom’s, but she didn’t need to know that. you turned around to find a wide eyed george trying to sweep flour away from the floor, he had let a flour package fall to the ground and it had exploded all over the floor.

“george weasley!” you whispered shouted, “what the hell did you do?” he turned to you with puppy dog eyes, “m’sorry darling, it was an accident.” you chuckled at his clumsiness, getting another package of flour and pushing him away from the mess. you went to look for boba pearls to make boba tea, when you see george coming back with a handful of different sweets and chocolates.

“george we don’t need this many sweets.” you shook your head, “but they look so good, please we have to try them.” he pleaded, you mumbled a ‘fine’ since even though you’d never admit it the sweets he picked looked really good and you’d like to try them too. at this point you had everyone in the grocery shop staring at you and george for being so clumsy and loud, but that only made you want to burst out laughing.

“okay george now you come with me to get iced coffee so i make sure you don’t do any more stupid stuff.” he wrapped an arm around your waist, pressing a kiss to the crown of your head and mumbling an ‘i love you’ your heart melted at this, standing up on your tippy toes you pressed a kiss to his lips and whispered an ‘i love you back’.

you got the iced coffee some hot chocolate and green tea, heading towards the cashier to pay, not realising george wasn’t beside you anymore. as you were abou to pay, you hear a tired looking george running towards you with something in his hands. “baby, baby look! i got you a teddy bear, and oh! your favourite ice cream.” your heart soared at how sweet your boyfriend was, kissing his cheek. “thank you, george.”

the cashier gave you a smile, “you guys are really cute, you should get married.” you both walked out the store, a grin plastered on your face at the thought of marrying george. what you didn’t expect was to come to your senses and see george getting down on one knee, tears pricking your eyes.

“i really wish i had a ring with me, and i know getting proposed to on a parking lot isn’t exactly the most romantic thing ever but i just love you so much, every little moment with you is a dream and i can’t wait anymore. so y/n y/l/n will you marry me?” you were at a loss for words, but managed to nod your head and jump into his arms, letting him pick you up and spin you around.

Okay, so, A Funeral March in Eight came about when I'd been briefly researching funeral traditions (for a book, I swear). And I came to notice that the musical procession was divided into sections, or, as they call it in music, movements. Typically, there are only four, but it all depends on the composition.

The "eight" began in reference to each of the Harry Potter films, the Deathly Hallows being split into her school year under the tyranny of the Carrows and the Battle of Hogwarts, movements seven and eight. But eventually, The Eight™ came to represent the eight deaths in Althea Abbott's life, the ones that affected her most. They don't really fit into their respective movements, but the idea of the Eight being representative of the deaths rather than the films is still fairly new to me, and it was more of a serendipitous realization than a fully planned out thing. They are listed as follows:

Quirinus Quirrell (although she hadn't been remorely close to him, his death was the first she'd been exposed to, and set the tone for how her school years with The Chosen One would really play out as opposed to the fantastical imaginings she'd conjured hearing of Harry while growing up)

Cedric Diggory (listen I'm not ready to revisit last night's pain, but Althea really loved him and it hurts)

Sirius Black (she grows close to him in Order of the Phoenix when they are in Grimmauld Place together, as she and her tamily go into hiding following the death threats her mother begins to receive. She is there at the Department of Mysteries, and sees the death first-hand)

Lorelei Abbott (the whole reason why Althea is an Abbott and not some other name, is because of Lorelei. I remember Hannah having been taken out of Hogwarts during the beginning of her seventh year because of the death of her mother, and I really wanted to explore that a bit. It was also the entire reason I decided to name the fic A Funeral March in Eight)

Albus Dumbledore (listen, I know we — as readers — can all see what a shit Albus is, but to his students, he was their hero. And Althea is unfortunately not exempt from this. His death hit her hard, as she believed he was their last true defence against Lord Voldemort)

Cantankerous Nott IV (sentenced to life in Azkaban was barely a triviality to the already elderly Cantankerous Nott, so when he passed, of natural causes in his cell, Althea felt no pity. But she did have reason to feel joy [reasons will be made clear in OoTP])

Nymphadora Tonks (she was everything to Althea. Althea saw her as her hero, both bonding over being Metamorphmagi, Tonks being such a badass, and a Hufflepuff to boot. Her death was incredibly difficult for Althea to stomach, because she'd always perceived Tonks as invincible. With Dumbledore, she could see the mortality in his age. With Tonks, it was different. Althea was made Teddy's godmother by Tonks before her death)

Fred Weasley (they were great friends, the Weasley Twins and The Hufflepunks regularly finding overlap in their common interests. They also danced together at Fleur and Bill's wedding [she is there as Wlibur Prewett's date. Coincidentally, Theodore Nott also happens to be there, as he is related to the Delacours through his mother, Bedelia] and Fred promised to go with her to Romania where she'd dreamed of studying Dragonology under Charlie Weasley. Althea never fully healed from his death)

here’s some stuff that happened to harry between the end of the war and seeing draco again in moonrise

-he gave kreacher all the money sirius left to him, and tried to give him grimmauld place but kreacher didn’t want the house; for a while they lived together like roommates, and then kreacher went to live with some elves from the free elf movement in france

-harry testified at a ton of death eater trials, including draco malfoy’s and narcissa malfoy’s (lucius disappeared between the battle of hogwarts and the arrest of his wife and son; he was later found dead and draco has some very specific theories about that)

-due to harry’s testimony,  draco had a reduced sentence of 2 years of house arrest and 1 year of no magic (harry still had draco’s wand at the time so he knew draco was lying when he said it was destroyed during the war but he didn’t say anything); narcissa spent 6 mo in azkaban and is technically still under house arrest at the start of moonrise, but she breaks it to visit her sister bc she’s a malfoy damn it and she does what she pleases

-harry went back to hogwarts for a while to get his NEWTs because obviously hermione wanted to go and ron wanted to go with hermione and the idea of being without them and figuring out what to do with his life next made harry feel like he couldn’t breathe

-he had a VERY emotional first term with lots of yelling and storming off to sit by himself and he’s having trouble sleeping and he and ginny got back together and then broke up again and halfway through exams week during first term, he broke into the headmaster’s office in the middle of the night and just broke down sobbing because he couldn’t take it anymore and dumbledore’s portrait told him that he didn’t have to carry on at hogwarts and no one was going to be hurt/angry/disappointed in him, and he was SUPER relieved and he scared the crap out of professor mcgonagall (headmistress obvs) in the morning by having fallen asleep under the desk

-he went to stay at the burrow after that like he went for christmas and then the week between christmas and new year he broke down again and ginny told him that it’s okay that he needs help coping and there’s nothing wrong with getting it so he checked into st. mungo’s

-st. mungo’s has a new ward to treat wix who have been traumatically impacted by magic like straightforward spell damage or just had some kind of traumatizing experience with magic (mainly due to muggleborns being like please ma’am a crumb of therapy) and there are a ton of hogwarts students there including a bunch of slytherins and harry sees a lot of folks he knows which he finds kind of sad because they are all suffering at the same time for the same reasons and then also he knows there’s something good about it too because they can get help now, which they wouldn’t be able to before

-he sees neville a lot at st mungo’s, bc neville goes there to visit his parents and he gets sort of fascinated/obsessed with neville the way he does sometimes bc he can’t stop thinking about how neville could have been the chosen one and also he realizes that he’s attracted to neville and for a while he thinks neville kind of fostered this fundamental change in him because he’s never been conscious of being attracted to men before

-harry tries to ask hermione if there’s some kind of magical explanation for his interest in neville and hermione very gently tells him what being gay is, and harry’s like uhhhh yeah i actually have heard of that hermione but i’m not gay what about ginny so hermione goes to a muggle library and brings harry back a book about bisexuality and harry is like !!!!!!! he also revisits his past and realizes that he was very attracted to cedric diggory and viktor krum (he likes jocks) and also he realized that he still IS attracted to bill weasley 

-harry gets really into books because he didn’t know books could tell you such personal, useful things! hermione makes him get a library card

-ron leaves hogwarts after having obtained an acceptable number of NEWTS and moves in with harry at grimmauld place; hermione lives with her parents and ponders magical law school and visits a lot

-he starts dating neville! he only meant to come out to neville but neville thought harry was asking him out and accepted and harry was like okay yes let’s go with that 

-he gets a job in a muggle feminist bookshop and the middle aged muggle ladies who work there LOVE him so much because he’s polite and kind and down to earth and he loves books and harry is so MOVED because they don’t know he’s harry potter, they just know he’s a lovely boy. there’s one point where someone mentions a niece rather hopefully and harry’s worried it will get awkward but he just politely brings up neville, and they love him even more

-he breaks up with neville because he’s a little bored? he feels like there isn’t enough friction and then he is kind of miserable and self loathing for a while because he hates disappointing people and he has a little bit of a downswing

-ginny comes out as a lesbian and starts dating luna and at first harry kinda wonders if it had anything to do with him and he kind of hints at that to ron and ron scoffs and tells him he’s got a big head and harry is sheepish and realizes he’s being silly 

-ron and hermione get engaged which makes harry feel panicky again for a while and he thinks about how charlie weasley is part of a triad and harry wonders if he wants that with ron and hermione and then decides he’s not in the least attracted to either of them so probably not and then he makes them camp out in the sitting room of grimmauld place with him and they toast marshmallows on the fire and sit up all night talking and harry feels very loved

-the slytherin kids start showing up at grimmauld place one by one after they stand up to their bigot families and get disowned or else they just burn out in general. they tend to be a little snide but harry makes it clear that there is a standard for respect and kindness at grimmauld place, and people mostly meet it. harry and hermione help them learn some muggle skills and find muggle jobs so that they can support themselves (some of them have been banned from using magic or had their wands snapped but they’re trying to better themselves and learn how to treat ppl and harry rlly respects that) 

-around this time, harry starts spending more time with teddy lupin, and he keeps running into narcissa malfoy at andromeda tonks’ house, and he’s honestly kind of impressed that she’s risking being sent back to azkaban by breaking her house arrest just to see her sister and her nephew and he’s seen some other slytherins change, and besides she did save his life just because she loved her son, so he’s cautiously friendly to her

-the way narcissa (aunt cissy to some) talks about draco makes harry very curious about him like she implies he has a Terrible Secret and harry’s like !!!!!!!!!!! i must know all at once
