“This is it.”
Jeonghan side-eyed his friend as they walked across the grassy quad. “What are you going on about?”
Joshua swept his arms in a comprehensive motion. “This. College. It’s the start of our lives.”
“But that’s what you said when we were freshmen in high school.”
Joshua’s arms dropped as red crept up his cheeks. “Okay, but this is gonna be different. This is us being adults. Conquering obstacles–”
“Joshua–”
“–reaching goals–”
“Joshua–”
“–going the distance–”
Jeonghan closed his eyes as Joshua ran straight into a bench and flipped over, landing on his back. Instantly, the quad filled with laughter. He groaned as his vision filled with stars, trying to get his bearings. It wasn’t until a face appeared that his senses came back.
Was she an angel?
He blinked once. Then twice.
The worry on her face was replaced with relief when she noticed he was alert.
“Oh, good. You’re okay.”
“I think so,” he mumbled, trying to stand.
“Maybe we should wait for the paramedics to get here,” she mused.
Jeonghan nodded in agreement. “Someone’s calling for them right now.”
“Seriously. I’m okay!” A smile spread across his face as he began to rise. It faltered quickly as his legs wobbled.
Jeonghan grabbed his arm, guiding him to the bench.
“Sit. Now.”
“Yes, please do,” she said in agreement.
The paramedics arrived quickly, getting to work on assessing his injuries.
Honestly, he was okay. His head hurt a bit, but they were fussing over nothing. He didn’t need any more embarrassment on his first day as a college freshman. Jeonghan gave her a polite smile.
“Thanks for helping. He’s a little stubborn, but I know he appreciates it.”
“It’s alright. I’m just happy to know he’s okay,” she said with a smile.
“Y/N!”
She looked up at the sound of her name. A group of people were waving to her. She put her hand up and turned to Jeonghan.
“I have to go, but it was nice talking to you. I hope your friend feels better!”
Joshua heard the name from the stretcher, and realization crossed his face slowly. “Jeonghan!”
His friend ran over to him. “What?!”
“Was that Y/N?! As in Y/N Y/L/N?!”
“Uh, that’s a stretch. I mean, there’s a lot of Y/Ns–”
“No…I’m sure of it. That was her!”
“Joshua–”
“Humor me. What if that was her? It’s fate! We were meant to meet once more. It’s destiny–Ow!”
The stretcher dropped, making him bump his head against the bar. Jeonghan shook his head in disbelief.
“This is gonna be a long year.”
---
With Jeonghan in tow, Joshua walked into the student center, looking around. By then, a few months had passed, and everyone had forgotten about his blunder on the first day of class. He thought it best to keep a low profile during the semester.
Joshua was always hopeful of running into Y/N on campus. Occasionally, he’d see her walking around, but every time he tried to speak up, he got tongue-tied, or a group of people would surround her. It seemed like he’d never get a chance.
One breezy fall afternoon, Joshua sat against a large oak tree, strumming his guitar. Jeonghan joined him moments later, dropping down next to him with a plastic bag. Reaching in, he took out some snacks, crunching on some chips while Joshua played. He hummed a few bars before taking out a small notebook. Jeonghan noticed a worn folded piece of paper fall out and scooped it up.
“What’s this?”
Joshua yelped, trying to reach for it, but Jeonghan pulled it out of reach. With a grin, he opened it up and read the contents. His eyes widened as he turned to his friend.
“I can’t believe you still have that letter.”
His face warmed as he snatched it away, stuffing it into his pocket. “It’s not that serious, Jeonghan.”
“Oh, is it not? Cause keeping a letter you wrote countless times back in high school to a girl who didn’t know you existed is pretty strange.”
Joshua rolled his eyes before returning to his guitar, strumming the strings absentmindedly. Was he being delusional at this point? Should he just give up on his crush?
“Maybe I’ll give up. It’s stupid,” he mumbled.
Jeonghan frowned slightly, noting how Joshua’s mood had darkened. The last thing he wanted was for his friend to be down.
Joshua returned his guitar to its case and stood up. Jeonghan looked at him curiously. “You got class?”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m done for the day. I might go back to the dorm to study. I’ll see you later.”
He waved before walking off, leaving Jeonghan alone. Leaning against the tree, he sighed heavily. He had to get Joshua out of this funk somehow.
But what to do?
Something fluttered in the corner of his eye. It was the letter from Joshua’s pocket!
An idea began to form in his mind, making him chuckle.
Yep, this might work after all.
---
Y/N sat there toying with the straw from her milkshake, bored and only half listening to the conversation around the table. Honestly, did they have anything worth talking about? There had to be more to life than when the next party would be or how many kegs they could drink. Still, she humored her friends, offering a laugh now and then.
“Right, Y/N?”
She blinked, looking up from her milkshake. “Huh?”
Her friend Irene rolled her eyes before sipping her diet Pepsi. “Were you even listening?”
She shook her head as a groan surrounded the table. She shrugged sheepishly. “Sorry. What were you saying?”
Irene sighed heavily. “The party—the one the Sigma Lambdas have every fall for Halloween—is happening this Friday.”
“Oh,” Y/N said, distracted once more. “Oh, yeah. I guess I’ll come.”
“We have no choice. Plus, Mingyu is gonna be there,” Irene added.
Y/N’s nose wrinkled in distaste. “And I would care because…”
“Jeez, Y/N, get with the program. Your boyfriend is gonna be there .”
“Correction, ex-boyfriend, and that makes it all the more reason not to go.”
Irene let out a noise of exasperation. “I don’t get you sometimes. If anything, this is the perfect opportunity to go and prove you don’t need him.”
“Whatever. We’ll see how I feel,” Y/N grumbled.
It wasn’t like her friends would listen anyway. She dated Mingyu all through high school. Meeting him on her first day, they became the ‘it’ couple and were at the hip. While they seemed like the quintessential high school romance, Mingyu was relatively immature in many ways. It was too much their senior year, and Y/N called it quits. He took it so well, insulting her intelligence and saying she’d regret it, but that only solidified her decision.
Of course, this was after they promised to go to the same university together, and now she was stuck with him for another four years.
Again, she ignored her friends' discussions and stared out the window, sipping her milkshake. When three fraternity brothers from Sigma Lambda Theta walked into the cafe and approached their table, Y/N and her friends looked up with interest.
“Heard you ladies were coming to our party,” one said.
Irene nodded. “Yeah, wouldn’t miss it. Heard y’all have a lot planned.”
Seungcheol eyed Y/N curiously, nudging Soonyoung. He pointed his chin towards her. “You’re Y/N?”
Her brow lifted in interest. “I am. And you’re Seungcheol?”
“Heard a lot about you.”
“Is that a fact?” she chuckled, sipping her milkshake. “Can’t always believe what you hear.”
Seungcheol smirked with a nod. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
Soonyoung grinned. “Don’t forget to wear your best costume. Masks included.”
“What are you going as?” Y/N inquired.
The shorter of the three shook his head, rolling his eyes. “Please don’t get him started. He hasn’t shut up about it all month.”
“Jihoon, lighten up. You’re just jealous.”
“Sure.”
Seungcheol cleared his throat, shooting the girls a smile. “Anyway. Gonna be a great time,” he shot Y/N a look. “Save me a dance?”
Y/N shrugged with a laugh. “Maybe. I like to keep my options open.”
“Sounds good to me. See y’all later.”
As the guys walked away, a glint flashed in Irene’s eye.
“What do you think about them, Y/N?”
“Them? Them who?”
Irene frowned once more, shaking her head in disappointment. “You acting clueless? The Sigma Lambdas! Isn’t Mingyu trying to pledge? Wouldn’t showing up with the frat's president as your date be funny?”
Y/N sighed in exasperation. “I’m really not trying to date right now. I’d rather focus on my studies–”
“All I hear is blah, blah, blah.”
“What do you want me to say? It’s not the end of the world. I mean, they are cute, but–” she argued.
“Whatever Y/N. If you want to be alone, that's fine, too.”
“Life isn’t always about having a boyfriend, Irene.”
“You worry about what you do, and I’ll worry about me,” Irene retorted.
Y/N stood up from the table, nearly knocking down the drinks. “I guess friendship isn’t the biggest priority either.”
Without another word, she stormed off, leaving the rest of them alone in the cafe.
---
The next few days passed without much drama. Even though Y/N and Irene made up, there was still some tension between them, regardless of their saying everything was okay. So many things ran through her mind that her concentration was off in class. Only one day after one of her lectures, the professor called her up as the class was leaving for her to notice.
Y/N slung one strap over her shoulder, gathered her books, and approached her professor’s desk.
“Yes, Professor?”
He pulled up a file, flipping through the papers. “I normally wouldn’t say anything, but you’ve been doing so well in class, Miss Y/L/N. Is everything alright?”
Damn it.
She nodded her head, trying to smile. “Of course. Maybe I'm just a little burnt out this semester with my credits, but I’m okay.”
He sighed, handing over a folder to her. “I’m going to give you a chance to work on this research paper again. I know you can do better than this. I’ll accept it next Friday.”
“Alright. Thank you.”
Slipping the folder into her bag, she walked out of the classroom, her thoughts swirling. It wasn't until the last minute that she bumped into Joshua coming out of the building. She jumped with a start as her books fell to the ground. Joshua blinked, staring at her before scrambling to pick the books.
“Are you okay?”
She willed herself to smile, taking the books from him. “We have to stop meeting like this. How’s that bump on your head?”
Joshua sheepishly grinned as he rubbed the spot.
“I'm never gonna live that down, but I'm alright.”
Now that she was in front of him, he was too nervous to speak. Did she even recognize him from high school?
Clearing his throat, he tapped her shoulder politely. Y/N turned to look at him curiously.
“Yes?”
“Your name wouldn't happen to be Y/N Y/L/N, right?”
Her brow quirked. “Um, yes. Why do you ask?”
“Well
“Y/N!!!!”
She looked past Joshua with a frown.
Mingyu was walking towards her with Seungcheol. His smile faltered as he saw Joshua standing next to her. “No fucking way…Bambi goes here!”
Joshua’s face paled upon hearing that name. Of all the people who had shown up here at this very moment…Mingyu had managed to graduate and get into a university?!
His knees buckled as Mingyu’s hand slammed into his back in greeting. Joshua had to hold the wall to keep from dropping to the floor. Y/N’s eyes glanced from him to Mingyu in confusion.
“Bambi?”
Mingyu rolled his eyes with a laugh, nudging Seungcheol. “Dude always looked like a deer in headlights, especially when he was our mascot and got tackled.”
Seungcheol started to chuckle as Joshua attempted to back away slowly. Mingyu grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him into a headlock, giving him a noogie. Joshua grunted, trying to loosen his grip.
“So what you doin’ talking to my girlfriend, Bambi?”
Y/N scoffed with a roll of her eyes. “Ex-girlfriend, Mingyu. And let him go, please. Let’s be adults.”
A pout formed on his face as he let Joshua go reluctantly. “Seriously? Y/N–”
“Save it,” she snapped. Her expression softened as she took Joshua’s hand into hers. “Walk me back to my dorm?”
His eyes widened in surprise. “U-Um s-sure!”
“You’re sweet.”
She smiled, barely acknowledging Mingyu and Seungcheol, as she walked out of the building with Joshua in tow, still dazed by the unfolding events.
Mingyu’s eyes narrowed, watching the pair walk off.
“That geek is gonna pay,” he mumbled, storming out of the building.
---
Joshua hardly touched his drink as Y/N placed it before him. She removed the wrapper around her straw and stuck it in her milkshake. Her brow quirked in interest.
“Sooo. You went to our high school?”
Joshua finally grabbed his cup and took a generous sip. “Uh huh.”
Her lips turned downward, trying to recall his face. “I don’t know why I can’t remember you.”
He shrugged, trying to shake his disappointment. “I-It’s not like you would have noticed. We didn’t run in the same circles.”
Something about that statement made her stomach drop. Sure, she’d been what you’d consider popular, but Y/N was pleasant with everyone she came across.
“What were you into back then?”
Joshua sat back as the tension slowly drifted from his shoulders. “Band, mostly marching and pep. I was in the film club and tried out for the soccer team, but…yeah.”
Y/N nodded in understanding. “You seemed to have a lot of interests. I’m surprised we didn’t run into each other.”
“Well, Y/N, we have been in the same classes since freshmen year.”
Her cheeks felt hot, and Joshua fumbled as he tried to change the subject. “I-I’m not saying it like it’s a bad thing. It’s just how life happens. Our school was big, so it’s okay.”
The relief passed her face. The last thing she wanted was for someone to recall her being self-absorbed.
A smile formed on her lips, which he returned wholeheartedly. “Well, it’s time for new beginnings.”
“Agreed.”
After a brief silence, she looked at him and asked, “Are you good with music theory?”
His brows lifted as he nodded. “Oh yeah! I took those in high school! Do you have any questions about it?”
“Do I?” she said with a laugh. Y/N pulled out her research paper and handed it to him. “I got an extension to write a better one.”
He flipped through the pages with a hum. “I see. Do you want help? I’d be happy to give some insight.”
Y/N beamed at him. “I’d owe you a huge one!”
Joshua smiled. “That’s not necessary. How about we meet Friday night at the library to discuss the details.”
Realization dawned on her as her smile faltered. Joshua’s brows knitted.
“Is something wrong?”
“N-No, it’s just there’s this party on Friday–”
“Oh. Well, you should go.”
She sighed, falling back against the booth cushion. “That’s the problem. I really don’t want to.”
“So don’t go,” he reasoned.
“It’s not that simple–”
“It kind of is. Don’t force yourself into things just because your friends want to,” he interrupted. His eyes widened again, and red crept onto his face.
“I-I’m sorry. That wasn’t my place to say.”
Y/N let out a genuine laugh for the first time in weeks. “Honestly, that was the most honest response I’ve gotten. People always try to hide the truth.”
“Some people suck,” he said matter-of-factly.
She nibbled on her bottom lip. “Why don’t you come to the party?”
“M-Me?”
“Why not? It definitely would make my night better,” she exclaimed.
He looked at her in astonishment. Y/N sipped her milkshake, trying to cover up her bashfulness. “I mean…the more the merrier, ya know.”
“I’ll see what's going on that day,” he decided. He was not ecstatic about the invitation but didn't want to get his hopes up. Being near her was almost enough for him.
“Okay,” she said, trying to hide her disappointment.
They returned to idle chatter the rest of the time, realizing they had much more in common than each had known. He eventually said his goodbyes, promising to give her the paper back after he made any edits. Walking back to his dorm, he thought about their time together. Y/N was amazing in so many ways. Joshua would have fallen even deeper in love with her if he hadn’t already fallen madly in love.
He stopped in his tracks.
Love?
Shaking his head, he unlocked the door with a scoff. What did he know about love?
The letter.
Damn it.
That letter.
Groaning to himself, he walked inside to Jeonghan, who was reading at his desk. Jeonghan looked up from his book at his friend's expression.
“You alright?”
Still in a daze, Joshua plopped on his bed, blinking. “Y-Yeah.”
Jeonghan hummed, going back to his book until Joshua spoke up.
“I spent time with her.”
“Her?”
“Y/N.”
Jeonghan placed his book down and faced Joshua with interest. “What? What happened?”
Joshua recalled the events the best he could, grimacing at the part when Mingyu appeared and his conflicting feelings about the party.
Jeonghan let it all sink in before talking.
“Well, now you gotta go to the frat party.”
“Yeah, but Mingyu’s gonna be there.”
“So? Y/N personally invited you. It seems she wants you there, and that’s enough. Who cares what everyone will say? We’ll have fun, you’ll see.”
Joshua sighed heavily, looking up at the ceiling. He was taking a chance. This could be the start of something great or crash and burn in utter disaster.
Time to take a gamble.
---
When Y/N and her friends arrived, the party was in full swing. She watched as people ran around the house throwing balloons filled with water. Irene screeched, jumping in place as one splashed by her feet, nearly getting her costume wet.
“Watch it!”
Irene let out a sound of exasperation. “Do I look okay?”
Y/N fought to roll her eyes.
“You look fine.”
Irene beamed as she twirled in the black, red, and white plaid two-piece. She adjusted the hat on her head. “We’re gonna be the popular people here. Clueless was a hit!”
Y/N adjusted the skirt on hers. She would have instead gone as Dionne, but Irene insisted she be the Cher. Arguing would have been fruitless if she wanted any attention on her, so Y/N just went with the flow. Heads indeed turned as they walked by. Seungcheol appeared out of nowhere, clearly red-faced from the alcohol.
“You made it!”
Y/N held back the eye roll from Irene’s giggles.
Seungcheol gestured to them with the beer can in his hand. “You’ll be the girls from that movie, right?”
“Like totally!”
He grinned, setting his gaze on Y/N. “Would you like something to drink Y/N?”
Irene pushed past; a Cheshire grin spread wide. “We’d love something to drink.”
He chuckled, watching Y/N’s reaction. Y/N held back the eye roll, threatening to appear.
“C’mon, I’ll show you where the drinks are.”
They followed Seungcheol into the kitchen. The entire counter was covered in various drinks, from malt beverages to cheap vodka, anything to get someone entirely buzzed. Mingyu stood near a silver basin, stirring the bright red liquid. He looked up, making eye contact with Y/N as he waved. Grabbing a few cups, he poured the liquid in, adding some pineapples, strawberries, and oranges.
Y/N stared at the cup in scrutiny as Irene happily sipped on hers.
“This is so good! What is it?”
Mingyu tapped his glass against Seungcheol’s. “We call it carat juice.”
Y/N’s brow raised, giving him a deadpan stare. “Wow, so clever.”
“I thought so,” Mingyu answered with a smug look.
She sighed heavily, looking around for anything to get her away.
“Just enjoy yourself tonight, Y/N. It’s the least you can do. You’re being so uptight,” Irene taunted.
What the hell was wrong with her? Irene had been doing too much lately, and Y/N was letting her ‘friend’s’ words get to her.
“Fine.”
She chugged the drink back, trying not to cough at the alcohol burning down her throat regardless of the sweetness in the cup. She wiped her mouth off and ran towards the dance floor. Maybe sweating for a few hours would help make her numb to the whole thing.
Joshua and Jeonghan walked inside, looking around at the scenery. Very few people were wearing original costumes. Most were dressed in bedsheets as ghosts or togas.
“You sure we got the right costume?”
Jeonghan shot Joshua a look. “No one else is gonna have it.”
Suddenly, someone shouted from across the room, " I'm a dude. He’s a dude. She’s a dude. So we’re all dudes!”
A snort passed Joshua’s lips, and he waved, giving a thumbs up. Jeonghan gave him a smug look. “See?”
“Fine. This was the way to go.”
He adjusted the paper hat on his head before smoothing the striped blue and white shirt. Okay. So maybe Jeonghan's idea of being a Good Burger employee wasn’t a bad idea after all. As he got more comfortable in his skin, he opened up more to talk with the people at the party.
“Oh, you play the guitar?”
Joshua nodded as he sipped his drink. The guy slapped his back, causing his knees to buckle. “We always have a jam session in the quad in the afternoon. You should join us.”
“BAMBI!”
Joshua let out an audible groan.
Shit.
Mingyu pushed through; cheeks reddened from the alcohol. Joshua tried not to recoil from the smell of his breath. Wrapping his arm around Joshua, he waved his cup, slooshing the liquid all over the floor.
“Didn’t think you’d show up,” he slurred.
Joshua removed his arm, sidestepping away from him. “Uh. Yeah. I was invited.”
“Who’d invite you?”
“I did.”
Both men looked up as Y/N appeared, the growing crowd parting for her to pass. Joshua felt his heart still as she smiled at him.
“I’m happy you made it, Joshua,” she said.
“T-Thanks,” he gushed out.
Y/N gave him a nod of approval. “I like your costume.”
“I like yours too,” he said with a grin.
Feeling neglected, Mingyu glanced between the two, not liking how the conversation was going. He managed to get Seungcheol’s attention. Both men nodded, and devious grins appeared.
Y/N smiled at Joshua, cocking her head in the direction of the kitchen. “Wanna get a drink? There’s this jungle juice–”
Red liquid splashed over Joshua, covering him from head to toe. Laughter erupted around the room. Y/N looked shocked as Mingyu and Seongcheol bent over, shaking with laughter. The empty red cups were enough evidence for her.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!”
Mingyu snorted back a laugh, trying to look serious. “What? It was just a joke.”
Y/N shot Joshua with a sympathetic look as Jeonghan appeared, handing him a crumple of paper towels. Joshua tried to wipe off the liquid in vain, feeling the stickiness cover his skin. Trying to keep his cool, he walked up, heading up the stairs without a word. Y/N snarled as she punched Mingyu in the arm with a hiss. “You’re such an asshole, Mingyu!”
He shrugged, giving Seungcheol a fist bump. “Eh, what else is new.”
Shaking her head in disgust, she stormed off as everyone watched in awe.
Joshua found himself in a bathroom upstairs, trying to avoid getting the stain out of his shirt. Luckily, he ran into Woozi, who you called Jihoon before. That frat member was kind enough to tell him about the bathroom away from the crowd while he got himself together.
“Remember not to close the door all the way. The knob sticks.”
He threw the towel into the sink. It was useless—both the stain and possibly talking to Y/N.
“Maybe it’s just not meant to be,” he mumbled to his reflection. He couldn’t go back out there. It didn't look like that. He sighed heavily and sat on the toilet seat, a dark cloud hovering over him.
Jeonghan found Y/N quickly. She sat outside, away from the smokers, attempting to get some fresh air. He stepped closer until she noticed him standing near her.
“Hi. You’re Y/N, right?”
She looked up, guarded at first, as her brow quirked.
“Do I know you?”
Jeonghan stepped back, giving her some space. “I'm sorry. I’m Joshua's friend. You probably don't remember me, but we went to the same high school.”
“Oh,” she gave him a small smile. “Sorry, it’s just been kind of crazy tonight. What’s your name again?”
“Jeonghan,” he answered. “Listen, have you seen him? I’ve been looking for him for a while.”
“No, I was just about to go look myself.”
“He can’t be too far off. This house isn’t that big. Wanna help me find him?”
She nodded as he gave her room to walk. Just as Jeonghan turned, something fell from his pocket. Y/N paused, seeing the envelope with her name on it. She picked it up, twirling it between her hands.
“Jeonghan?”
“Hmm?”
She held up the envelope before his eyes. “Why do you have something with my name on it?”
Oh shit.
Jeonghan shrugged, letting out a scoff. “I didn’t drop that.”
Y/N crossed her hands over her chest, tapping her platform boots on the deck. “Oh really? So this just magically appeared before you?”
“Yep.”
“Are you serious?”
“Yep.”
Her eyes narrowed, looking it over. “Well then, it’s no big deal if I open it, right?”
“Yep–wait! No!”
Jeonghan lunged forward, tripping as he tried to grab the letter. Y/N pulled it out of reach with a smug look.
“So obviously, this means a lot to you, but it has my name on it.”
“D-Don’t read it! It’s not mine to give!”
She stared at him, waving it in front of his face. “Then who did?”
Jeonghan dropped his head in defeat. “It was Joshua,” he mumbled.
“What was that?”
“It was Joshua…he wrote it.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. Suddenly, the envelope felt heavier than usual. Should she open it? Something was always there in the few times she ran into Joshua. She wasn’t sure what it was, but she felt so much at ease in the little time she spent around him. It wasn’t like with her friends. She didn’t need to put on an act.
“Should I open it?”
Jeonghan wiped off the dirt from his costume as he stood up. “Honestly, it’s up to you, but whatever you decide involves you and Josh.”
Biting her lip, she glanced from Jeonghan to the envelope before sliding her finger under the flap. The notebook paper was stained with age, and the creases were deep from constant folding. The black ink was partially smeared on the paper as the words looped along the lines.
Her eyes scanned the words, silently reading them to herself. Jeonghan watched the emotions change on her face with interest. What could she be thinking? Y/N cleared her throat as she folded the paper and placed it in her pocket.
“Excuse me.”
She ran off back inside the house. Jeonghan secretly patted himself on the back.
Joshua, you owe me.
Y/N ran up the stairs, looking for anyone familiar. Towards the end of the hall, a door was propped open. She knocked on it gently, waiting for an answer. When none came, she stepped in to see Joshua leaning against the window, eyes closed.
“Joshua?”
His eyes fluttered open as his head turned toward his name. His jaw dropped when he saw her standing in front of him.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah. Are you okay?”
“Uh–”
Y/N started to close the door, looking at him with concern. “Are you sure?
“Wait!”
Y/N jumped in surprise just as the door shut behind her. Joshua tried catching the knob to no avail. Groaning, he leaned against the counter.
Y/N violently shook the doorknob, but the stubborn door did not budge. She gave a few sharp knocks, pausing to listen for any voices.
Nothing.
Joshua shook his head in disappointment. “Told ya.”
“Yeah. Thanks,” she snapped, leaning on the door.
Joshua scoffed as he stared at her in disbelief. “What’s your deal? It’s not my fault. I tried to warn you about it.” She sat against the sink with a defeated sigh, looking anywhere but at Joshua. But he didn’t warn her.
“So we’re stuck?”
“Yep. I doubt anyone will come this way. The party is loud enough they won’t hear the knocks or us.”
“Lovely,” she said, rubbing her eyes.
He glanced at her curiously. “Not to be rude, but what are you doing here?”
Y/N gave him a stern look. “Duh, looking for you.”
“Why?”
“Well–”
“Felt bad about your boyfriend spilling his drink on me?”
She could hear the hurt in his voice. “He’s not my boyfriend, Joshua. You know that.”
“Do I? Wasn’t this some ploy to mock me?” His tone was accusatory.
Y/N’s jaw dropped in shock. “What? No! Why on earth would you think that?”
He shrugged, fiddling with the buttons of his shirt. “I don’t know. People suck.”
“You think I’m like them?”
Joshua met her gaze, seeing the sadness in her eyes. He was projecting, and he knew it. In frustration, he ran his hands through his hair. “No. No, I never thought that. I’m sorry, Y/N.”
“It’s okay. I understand. People do suck. Maybe I was like them before, but I don’t wanna be like them anymore.”
He nodded in understanding. “That’s mature of you.”
“Hardly.”
The quiet fell between them, with only the muffled sound of the music in the background. Y/N pulled the letter out of her pocket and opened it up.
“It may sound silly, but nothing else seemed to matter when you walked into my life. I spent so much time wondering how or when I’d speak to you. If I ever shared a space with you, I’d thank the stars for this opportunity.”
Joshua felt the blood drain from his face. She had his letter! How? Why?
“Y/N–”
A small smile appeared on her face as she put the letter away. “You wrote this when we were in high school?”
Instantly, the blood rushed to his face as he tried to hide his expression. “It…embarassing enough as is. I didn’t mean–”
Her lips pressed to his, stopping him midsentence. Joshua’s eyes widened in surprise, and his limbs stiffened. It took a few moments for his brain to catch up when he finally kissed her back, wrapped his hands around her waist, and pulled her close. His heart hammered loudly, and he swore he could hear hers, too. It seemed like hours passed before they broke apart. Y/N blinked a few times, trying to catch her breath.
“I never do that.” does he mean he never would have done that?
“D-Do you regret it?”
She shook her head with a laugh. “No. No, I don’t. You’re a great kisser.”
“As are you,” he answered with a smile.
“Joshua–”
The door to the bathroom crashed open, breaking them apart. Jeonghan, Seungcheol, and Mingyu stood in the doorway in shock.
“Thank goodness Woozi said where you were.”
Mingyu stepped forward with a snarl, pointing at them.
“So what's this?”
Y/N let out an exasperated sigh. “What are you talking about, Mingyu?”
“You two together?”
“Why do you care? We’re not, so anything I do has nothing to do with you.”
His jaw clenched as he stepped towards her. Joshua pushed himself between them as Mingyu stared hard at him.
“Bambi, move.”
“Don’t call me that, Mingyu. You’re being an ass. Stop while you’re still ahead.”
Mingyu shoved Joshua, who staggered back. Y/N grabbed Mingyu’s arm. “What is wrong with you?! Have you lost your mind?”
Mingyu yanked his arm away as Y/N was pushed back. Jeonghan and Seungcheol tried to grab Mingyu when Joshua swung, his fist connecting with his cheek with a dull thud. Mingyu fell against Seungcheol with a groan. Jeonghan looked at each man in surprise.
“Shit. Nice job, Joshua.”
He hissed, shaking his fist, and pushed past the group, walking away. Y/N placed her hand on Jeonghan’s arm. “I’ll go.”
It didn’t take long for her to catch up with him.
“Joshua,” she called.
He stopped walking and turned towards her. Looking down at the ground, he sighed. “Sorry. I just needed to get out of there. Are you okay?”
“I’m not glass. I’m pretty tough,” she answered with a smile.
He laughed, shaking his head. “I don’t doubt it.”
Y/N paused before speaking. “I like you, Joshua, before the letter. I was just too scared to say something,” she explained.
“And now?”
Y/N felt the warmth crept into her cheeks. “I think my kiss was proof enough.”
He took her hand into his, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“I think we deserve to get ourselves some breakfast. What do you think?”
Y/N stood on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms around his neck. A grin appeared on her face. “Only if you’re treating.”
He chuckled, placing another soft kiss on her lips. “Deal.”

love languages — seventeen
seventeen’s ( soonyoung, jun & seungcheol ) love languages : pairing soonyoung, jun, and seungcheol x idol!reader genre fluff, romance, blurb(?) cw non idol au, gn!reader, lowercase on purpose ( archive )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
choi seungcheol ( 최승철 )
his love languages are acts of service and giving gifts. cheol is the type of boyfriend to do everything for you guys. he’ll wash the dishes after dinner, do the laundry while you fold it, etc! he is the type to run errands for you just so you don’t have to do them "૮₍ •⤙•˶ actually so sweet though because he’ll listen to you, telling him about how you saw this cute necklace while coming home from work and he’ll listen, smiling the whole time and the next morning he’s already making plans to go buy it for you <33
moon junhwi ( 문준휘 )
acts of service. he notices the little things. jun sees your car is a little dirty? he’ll wash it for you! you forgot a few ingredients for dinner? he’ll rush to the store for them. honestly he’s just happy he can be of help to you. as long as at the end of the day everything got done and you weren’t stressed doing it by yourself, he’s beaming with joy! but just know he appreciates ( and wants ) a thank you and kiss on the cheek for helping so much ><!!
kwon soonyoung ( 권순영 )
words of affirmation and quality time. soonyoung expresses his love in so many ways to you, but these are the two main ways. he loves spending time with you.. like so much. there is definitely a memory with the two of you going on a walk in winter just hand in hand talking about how your day was and your future together. that quality time together plays into the words of affirmation. while listening to how your day was and smiling at the good, the bad parts of your day where you’re beating yourself up leads him to giving you words of affirmation. he stops walking and holds your face while telling him how proud he is of you before pecking your lips, his adorable smiley eyes appearing :((

how is jun and his lovely roommate/love of his life doing 🥺🥺
Tumblr media
drabble sequel to good things from bad days
but can be read alone!!
1k words
genre: romance, fluff, adoration and love. marriage proposal gone wrong!!! sunshine! junnie x grumpy! reader
notes/warnings: marriage is insinuated. a cat is on the counter but jun is going to wipe it after, i promise. couple banter. you have two cats named after the roly poly by t-ara.
Tumblr media
Jun rushed about the kitchen, never staying in one place for more than a second. Time was his master, he the servant. He had tried to delay you by asking you to go to the little Chinese restaurant the two of you frequented, the one you've been going to for eight years, the one he stopped at on that fateful night where you drunkenly confessed your love.
You had sighed, but agreed. He knew you would. Jun knew that every sigh, eye roll and scoff was just a layer of you, and that beneath that layer was the person he loved with all his heart. Your grumpiness was just another part of you for him to love.
He spun around, aiming for the silverware cabinet. Roly, however, had tucked herself right behind his feet. Jun cursed loudly, pitching forward and bracing himself against the opposite counter in an attempt to catch himself without injuring the cat.
Roly just peered up at him, amber eyes watching him as if to say really?
Jun used his foot to slide Rollie down the wooden floor of the kitchen, ignoring how she promptly turned around to swat at his ankle. He went back to the silverware drawer, withdrawing two pairs of chopsticks.
Jun grabbed yours, wooden ones he had purchased at a farmer's market with little pink flowers carved into the thick handles. He then, slowly, carefully, as if he was handling his heart with his bare hands -- and he was -- reached into his pocket and withdrew the ring.
He took a moment to appreciate it. It was in a vintage style with a thin golden band and a jade jewel surrounded by a golden face. It was elegant and simple, and Jun wondered how such a tiny thing could hold so much gravity.
Jun then slipped the ring around the chopsticks. He wrapped them in a napkin before doing the same with his own so you wouldn't be too suspicious.
"Okay, girls," Jun murmured, trying to swallow his nerves. "Just act cool. There's nothing going on. Absolutely nothing."
Roly and Poly just blinked at him from where they sat on the floor.
Jun set the napkin-covered-chopsticks on the bar just in time for the front door to open. He turned his back to the bar, placing a wide smile on his face and hoping his past as a child-actor was coming in handy.
You were huffing as you carried in the food alongside your work bag. Jun hurried forward, taking the food from you and swooping down to press a kiss to your nose. "Hello, darling!"
"Junnie," you murmured back, angling your face towards him. Jun took your silent request and pressed a slow, gentle kiss to your lips. You hummed, nodding, as if he had gotten an answer right on a quiz he didn't know he was taking.
"How was the drive?"
You scoffed, setting your bag on the couch. As soon as she heard you, Poly came running from around the kitchen bar. She let out a high-pitched "mrrp" as she did so, intent on reaching you.
Jun felt his heart swell as you reached down and grabbed Poly, bringing the long-haired cat into your arms. Poly was remarkably shy, even for a cat. It had taken her two months to get used to the two of you, and even now she continued to be hesitant around Jun. But you? She adored you.
Just like Jun.
He crossed back to the kitchen, setting the food onto the bar. Jun listened to you chatter to Poly, adoration dripping from your every word. He ignored Roly as she jumped onto the bar, grabbing the wet wipes the two of you kept in the kitchen for this exact reason.
"Why don't you love me like you love Poly?" Jun dramatically sighed, taking out two glasses from your cupboards.
You walked towards the kitchen, pressing kisses to Poly's head. "It's because she's so cute! Yes! My Poly girl is so! Cute!"
"And your Junnie boy isn't?"
You pressed one last kiss to her forehead, pausing and looking up at him over the rim of your glasses. "I guess."
"You guess?"
Jun set both glasses onto the counter, letting his jaw drop in false shock. "I can't believe I signed the lease to this house with you! I make your meals! I make sure you're well-fed and showered! I take out the trash! And for what? A cat to replace me?"
You cooed at Poly one last time before setting her on the floor. Then you crossed into the kitchen, opening your arms and winding them around Jun's middle. You pressed yourself to him, burying your face into his chest and pressing a kiss over his heart.
"A cat can never replace you," you mumbled. "She can't brush my hair like you do."
Jun laughed, pushing you away. "You jerk!"
Your answering giggle was soft and quiet, as it always tended to be. Jun had a sixth sense for your laughter, however, and mentally recorded it and tucked it deep into his heart.
He can't wait to marry you.
Jun turned his back to the bar, picking up a glass. He went to the freezer, shoving it underneath the ice machine.
Then you gasped, loud and cutting through the serenity. "Roly!"
Jun spun around just in time to see Roly batting your chopsticks, still covered in the napkin, off of the counter. She watched, content with her chaos, as Jun sprinted around the bar, panic so thick that he was drowning in it.
You were already bending over, bypassing the chopsticks and napkin. He watched as your fingers found the ring on the ground, enclosing around it. You straightened, quiet, opening your palm and staring down.
You were always so good at hiding your expressions. You weren't like Hansol, who wore his heart on his sleeve. Your face was stern, almost, considering, as you held the ring up to the light.
But then you turned your face towards Jun, and he could see the tears beginning to fall from your eyes.
"Junnie? Do you have something to ask me?"

“You go little sis, I wish I was as lucky as you are.”
Lucky, right. Easy for him to say. He was going to marry the person he loved, or at least got the chance to do so. You didn't think yourself lucky, getting married off and sent away.
Mingyu kissed your head and hugged you tight.  You kind of wished he'd never let go, would refuse to you going away. Then you could stay and everything would be alright. But his safe arms let you go anyway. Traitor.
Your mother had told you the news about two weeks ago during dinner. Your brother thought it wonderful, prince Jeonghan was a wonderful man, he trusted he would be good to you. And you were sure he was right.  But getting married? You didn't even know him.
Yes, you had met him at a party once or twice. As you got old enough you sometimes were allowed to go to royal parties as long as you stayed close to your big brother. And seeing as prince Jeonghan and Mingyu were friends, like how all the other royal princes seemed to be friends, you had been introduced. And, sure, he did seem nice. But marrying him? Had your mother lost her mind?
So you had yelled before walking out the dining room. A thing your mother had not appreciated. You treat the queen with respect, even if she is your mother.
But she just threw you away. Sold you to the first buyer. You weren't an item or nice accessory, you were a human. A person.
The day you left, Mingyu had tried his best to keep in his tears. He thought you marrying the future king of Aegiburg was wonderful, but you were still the little sister he wanted to protect from harm. And now you were going to live on the other side of Pledis.
You hadn't cried. You couldn't. You had done so before and you were over it. You were pissed, didn’t say goodbye to your mother and just took off.
Tumblr media
You didn’t look at your maid the entire way. Though the journey was long and you were seated beside her in the limo, you had turned your head away looking out the window. But you didn’t see anything, lost in your own thoughts.
Your maid, Soyi, had tried to converse with you multiple times and you appreciated how hard she tried. You couldn't imagine this to be easy for her.
But you were pissed, and had to show someone you were. She was the unlucky person who was with you. Yes, you realized if anyone couldn't help your current situation it was her. And yes, you realized you were really mean and you should appreciate her by your side and that you should focus your anger on your mother. But she wasn’t here. So your maid would just have to endure it.
“We’re almost there, your highness.” Soyi said hesitantly. It was the first thing she had said in about half an hour, you greatly appreciated her staying quiet. It gave you room to think.
“Hmm.” was your response.
She held the door open for you as the limo stopped in front of the villa of Aegiburg. But this was not at all what you had expected. The castle of Min Ate, where you came from, was nothing like this.
You knew Aegiburg was known for its many architects but the building itself was a piece of art. The white pillars were circled by roses in a pink color, leading all the way up to the roof of the front porch. The stairs leading up to the entrance of the building were layered with a red kind of carpet, guards stood beside it.
On top of the stairs stood a man you didn't recognize. He wasn't very tall, his shoulders were broad and his eyes stood very friendly. You were confused, this wasn't prince Jeonghan.
You forced a fake smile on your face as you walked up the stairs, maid behind you, limo, with all your luggage, driving on.
The man joyfully came walking towards you, bowing.
“Princess,” he greeted. He gestured to the villa “welcome to our noble home. Prince Jeonghan is currently finishing some things, he'll be with us shortly. I'm his butler Jiwon.”
“It is an honor.”
What kind of prince didn't greet his guests? Didn't greet his betrothed?
Jiwon escorted you inside the building, leading you through the hall, your maid following you silently.
“Did you have a nice journey?” he asked to break the awkward silence between you two.
“Terrific.” you answered, sarcasm dripping from the words.
“Oh. Good.”
It was silent for a bit, until you broke the silence “I must say this is a gorgeous building. You have great interior and exterior designers…” you weren't sure why you made an effort to converse, you just didn't want your first impression to be rude.
He smiled proudly “Thank you, I must say I agree. I think it's a lovely place to live, I hope you will experience it that way as well.”
After some silence Jiwon cleared his throat and smiled again “So… would you like a tour around the villa..?”
You didn’t respond, you really did not want a tour around the villa. You just wanted this day to be over. But you didn't want to tell him that. You were trying to think of an excuse to get out of this tour.
“...so you'll know where everything is…” he added carefully to once again break the awkward tension.
You turned to look at him “You know, I'm actually really tired from the long journey… Maybe you could show me to my room?” you tried to sound sincere and not as if you wanted to get away from everyone. But all you wanted was to get some time to take everything in.
He seemed perplexed for a fraction of a second before blinking twice “Of course, please follow me.” he started walking again “You’ll be staying in a guest room for the time being. Since the wedding is in two weeks and after that your highness and prince Jeonghan both move to the master bedroom, where the king and queen sleep, that seemed like the most reasonable thing. But don't worry, we prepared the best room for you. The prince his favorite one…”
The room he brought you to sure was gorgeous, bigger than your room in Min Ate. It was the perfect mixture of modern and classic, creating its own, wonderful style. You wouldn't mind it if this would be your room for the rest of your time here. You couldn't possibly imagine sharing a room with prince Jeonghan.
“Your luggage will be brought up shortly.” Jiwon announced “I hope the room is to your liking.”
You nodded, not looking at him.
He turned to Soyi “If you'd walk with me miss, I'll show you your room as well, and we have to go over the rules and ways here at villa Aegiburg.”
Soyi nodded, you saw her look away to hide her blush. You couldn't blame her: Jiwon was good looking and very charming.
“But my lady..?” She gestured to you, indicating she wasn't sure if she was allowed to leave you.
You had walked over to the bed and slowly sat down on it. Soft, but not too soft. Just right.
“Go.” You said shortly. She had to know where her room was after all and you could very well handle yourself. What did she expect you to do? Run away? …Could you?
She still hesitated but went with Jiwon anyway “We'll be right back, your highness.”
You wanted them to stay away as long as possible.

a love worth waiting for - chs
content : bsf!vernon x f!reader ; a lil angsty but fluff & happy ending ; 1.5k words warnings : vernon curses like 2ce lol - you are the most important person to vernon, but is it requited? an : i keep going on random writing hiatuses for no reason even tho i have so many ideas idek someone sos!!
Tumblr media
vernon has loved you ever since he met you. as cheesy as it sounds, its something he cant deny whenever his friends ask him about, something he rants for hours about to his sister, something he finds himself thinking about more often than not.
he remembers it like it was yesterday, even if its been years. it was an unusual meeting; seeing a pretty girl on a walk in the middle of summer would usually be normal, if only he didn't trip on a rock and land awkwardly conveniently on your path… and then make a comment on how his sister has the same shoes as you as if you’d care.
but you did. you made sure he was okay and laughed at his comment, then blabbered something about how your boyfriend has a similar hat to him. and, oh. he should've seen that coming.
of course he should have. such a put together, sweet girl would obviously have lines of guys lining up at her feet (or falling, in hansols case). but that didn’t matter - you only just met, you’d probably become friends if he asked for your number, that would be enough for him.
and for the first few months it was enough. you hit it off great, messaging each other often and even hanging out occasionally… well, when your jackass boyfriend let you. he hated your boyfriend - no, despised him. it wasn't even a case of jealousy; more of a genuine worry, at least for a while. he made it vocal on how he doesn’t like how your boyfriend controlled your life, but obviously supported your choices anyway. who wouldn't? you became his best friend, he would do anything to see you happy.
behind the worry he presented, vernon was stuck.
“i don't get it, why would she be with him if he's so.. controlling and mean?” everyday he called his friends.
“she literally looks unhappy, i feel bad and.. i dunno, angry... is that stupid?” everyday he talked about it, about how he wants to help you and, well, about you. “shes so… nice and pretty and forgiving. dude, he really doesn’t deserve her.”
until one day, “i could treat her better.”
he accepted it. he knew it wasn’t fair, for him or for you. everything leading up to that moment that he did, he thought it was simply sympathy. he put on this friendly act to not hurt your feelings, but maybe it was to not hurt his own. you wore your heart on your sleeve. it was obvious you were in love with your boyfriend, not him. and no matter what he did, that wouldn’t change.
soon you noticed the same things that vernon begged you to see in your boyfriend for a very long time. the gaslighting, restrictiveness, the bored attitude, and when you drifted apart it was only a waiting game till you broke it off.
vernon was surprised that the way his eyes sparkled when you came to cry to him didn’t give him away. truthfully, he couldn’t care less about the way it all went down or what he told you while you broke up with him. what mattered was that you were out of the situation you were blinded in.
“he was a fucking dick,” no brainer, “its unfair - y'know, someone you love being out of reach.” those words sounded awfully familiar.
actually, maybe to him what mattered more is that he finally could reach you.
“i still love him,” you mumbled between your tears as vernon cooed at you.
he should've seen that coming too, and he couldn’t blame you at all - ever. but why did it sting so much more than the first time?
when he searched for your laugh after making a joke, you were laughing out of pity. when he comforted you, you weren’t thinking about him and how he was always there for you, instead you were thinking about yourself. when home to him was wherever you were, home to you was wherever your ex boyfriend was.
you just lost someone so dear to you and he was being so selfish.
you two breaking up should've been the greatest thing he has heard in months, but instead he suddenly couldn’t help but feel like there was a bigger wall between you both than ever.
of course, you never had feelings for him in the first place. vernon knew that. but something in him always held onto the possibility of you ending up together. not anymore, not after those four words left your mouth. he felt stupid for ever even having hope.
he paused to think before he spoke - something he rarely ever did when he was with you. “i know you do.” shaking his head gently, he added, “your heart just got broken, its a fresh wound, of course you still love him.” did everything he say have to apply to him too? it was almost humiliating in a way.
“its embarrassing… im the one who broke it off, i shouldn’t like him.” right, you felt it too.
at the end of the day, no matter who he was to you, you recognised him as someone you could trust. you spoke your thoughts freely, you were always by his side, you were his best friend; thats something vernon failed to see. he understood now to expect nothing but appreciate everything. because after all, being your friend would always be enough for him.
vernon promised himself he wouldn’t do or say anything stupid for your sake. he knew breakups are tough, and he knew that feelings don’t change in a day. he loved you, so he never would blame you for anything negative you made him feel. he wouldn’t blame you because you didn’t know.
or so he thought.
because months later when you arrived at his door looking more nervous than usual with a small smile on your face, vernon couldn’t be more confused.
“its almost 11pm.. what’re you doing here…?”
you let yourself in, setting your shoes aside and placing your coat on the hanger before grabbing his hand and dragging him to the couch to sit down.
“is it true?”
“...is what true?”
“is it true that you have feelings for me?”
was that a trick question? “i mean..” he cleared his throat with a harsh cough, leaving the room silent for a few moments that felt like hours. “is that really what you’re doing at my house at 11 in the evening?”
“stop it. stop avoiding the question. just answer me.”
“where’d you even get that idea from? dude i mean, you’re my best friend so if you’re asking -”
“you know what im asking..” your hands felt clammy, suddenly regretting knocking on the door after debating if you should for a solid 5 minutes. “i’m.. not mad or anything.” you added.
this was the million dollar question. he felt scared. “ha..” he couldn’t help but scoff to himself, “yeah.” though his tone tried being confident, the lack of eye contact and leg jittering was enough to see how nervous he truly was.
“im… so sorry,” you stared at him with your nose slightly scrunched - a detail he noticed whenever you were upset. “what? sorry? pfft.. theres nothing to be sorry for.” you figured he’d say that.
“im sorry for not noticing it earlier. i feel like an idiot.”
“no.. i feel like the idiot.” he quickly butted in, trying to take the blame, “you shouldn’t have to ‘notice’ anything. i should have told you ages ago so we could get past… whatever this is. i was just being a pussy and i -”
you admired his dedication to try explain but decided to stop him. “no vernon, im sorry for making you wait.”
making him wait? “what are you even talking about? you didn’t do anything i swear…”
“maybe you really are the idiot..” you suddenly smiled a little wider, catching him off guard, “i meant i'm sorry for not noticing my feelings.. for you.. earlier.”
if he was confused before, he was now completely dumbfounded. the frown on his face wiped into a completely new expression. one of certain shock and hope, but with an equal amount of doubt.
“agh..” you groaned in fake annoyance, feeling your cheeks heat up in embarrassment, “i’m telling you that i like you too.”
oh. for once, he didn’t see that coming.
“are you serious?” he mumbled out, struggling to process the consumed information, a million things going through his mind.
“no im lying.” you tilted your head, “obviously im serious, why else would i be here?”
“you’re right.. i don’t know why i said that.” he nodded, a smile forming on his own face, “im just… at a loss of words dude.”
he let go of a breath he didn’t notice he was holding, sighing from relief as he looked at you. no more words were exchanged before he moved closer to hug you. a hug of love, ease and joy.
“if so.. can i be your boyfriend?” he whispered in a happier tone than before, the previous fear moulded into delight.
“yeah. i’d like that a lot.”

everything that i'll never be | kim mingyu . seventeen
Tumblr media
You'll never be his first and that bothers you, that she had his heart before you ever did.
genre: angst, relationship problems, insecure! reader. Mentions of self-harm.
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
She's so much better than you. In so many ways.
There's no way you can compete. You're not even competition to her. Come on, it's almost as if trying to compare a Ferrari to a stupidly tiny honda that would break down whenever it had to breach the motorway.
This is how envious you are of the girl that once had your boyfriend's heart.
And you hate yourself for it, because every argument that arises is because of that sole reason; you can't stand the thought of her having him first. You can't stand the thought that Mingyu had the opportunity, all his firsts, with a girl that was someone other than you.
Which is why the words suddenly fly out of your mouth one day without warning.
"How was she like? Your ex?"
The words sound raw and painful, even coming from your mouth. You hate it. You hate yourself the most at this particular moment. Even more so when Mingyu stops in mid-action and blinks at you like you've just told him you'd committed a first-degree murder.
It's not that it's surprising. It's just that-- more so -- it's been six years. Six years already, and you still haven't gotten over it. So there is, ultimately, a problem. With you.
Mingyu lowers the knife he's been using to chop the carrots into tiny thin slices. He suggested bringing duck to your annual family dinner this Christmas, which you thought was a good idea, until you realized the amount of preparation that came along with it.
So here you are, on a beautiful 24th December night with the snow falling like soft petals along the sky line, making sure that the duck that you've put into the oven a few minutes ago isn't roasting itself to death.
"Why are you asking now?" is Mingyu's question.
You shrug half-heartedly in an attempt to show him that it isn't that much of a big deal whether he answers your question or not. Though it is, as you keep your eyes trailed on the timer on your phone, "I had a nightmare," you admit.
"About?" his eyebrow raises a fraction, body stilling to await your answer.
You struggle to find something coherent, put together, that doesn't sound so lame once you say it out loud because god forbid it is the most childish thing to think of when it's been six years of your relationship.
And yet, she's still the gap, that empty space, that lingers between the two of you like the unsaid corpse filling the room.
"About you," you pause, "and her."
Mingyu lets out a soft breath, "Y/N, we can't be having this conversation six years down the line. I love you, and I'm with you--"
"I know that." he doesn't have to talk to you like you're a child.
"Then why are you still on about her when clearly you're the one I've chosen to be with for the rest of my life?" the hurt in his voice is real and it makes your heart ache with guilt. You shouldn't have asked him anything in the first place. You know, more than anyone, that Mingyu would steal the moon for you had you asked for it. It's undoubtable, the love that he bears for you, the way his eyes find yours across the room like you're the sun that makes his earth rotate.
He continues now, pent-up frustration laced in his alto. Almost like he's about to cry, "it hurts me too, to hear you talk about her over and over again. It gets tiring after a while, Y/N. I'm tired of it, honestly."
"Alright," tears prick at your eyelids but you refuse to blink, gaze permanently latched onto the oven as you fight against the flood of emotion building in the pit of your stomach, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have told you anything, but--"
"it's not doing you any good either. So why do you do this to yourself? What triggered it?" he's on a roll now, not caring what you have scrambled for an answer, the need to hear your reason a priority in comparison to the millions of excuses you have stacked up against your tongue, "because this isn't about just the nightmare, is it? You've mentioned her at least once during these two weeks and I--I'm tired of it, Y/N. I don't want to keep going through that. She's a part of my past and yes, we were in love once. But I don't love her anymore. You're the one I chose to be with," he holds up the peeler and the carrot in evidence, "isn't that exactly what I'm doing right now? Why do you have to ruin this for us?"
"I--" his speech hits you like a truck. You hadn't expected Mingyu to just spit out his feelings without filter or remorse, which makes it even worse as you try to struggle and comprehend what his words mean exactly. The ache in your chest grows. For a moment, you can't breath, the soft pants stinging the back of your throat as it burns with effort of restraining tears.
You swallow thickly, harsh gulps of air that makes you shudder. Finally, you manage to whisper out a soft, "I'm sorry, Mingyu. I shouldn't-- I shouldn't have bought this up. You're right. I'm just--I'm just a walking time bomb and I'm pathetic--" you shake your head, the tears now spilling down your cheeks as you bite down onto your lower lip. You catch sight of Mingyu's stance faltering ever so slightly, but you move back, as if the physical distance might help you keep your broken heart in check, '--I'm really sorry, Mingyu."
You don't wait for him to answer before you're swiveling on your feet and dashing through the open doorway of your bathroom. It's not much, but it's enough physical space for you to lock the door and slide down onto the floor.
You let the sobs take over, your shoulders hunching over your knees as you start crying. Once you do, you can't stop. You can't.
Because the truth is, you're scared.
You're scared that you'll never be enough for Mingyu and that -- whatever happened in the ktichen -- is the exact proof of that. You're not her. She's --gentle and kind and just agrees to everything that Mingyu ays without putting up a fight. And they made a cute couple, and she's prettier. Prettier than you'll ever be and you wonder what Mingyu even saw in you in the first place.
And she's his first. Will always be his first. Something that you'll never be, no matter how hard you try.
You're so focused on feeling your body shatter with tears and pain and guilt from the past that you don't hear Mingyu's voice until he starts knocking against the door.
"Please," he murmurs, "can we just talk?"
"I'm fine," you blubber out, "please just leave me alone. I really don't want to talk about this right now."
"Y/N, I didn't mean to hurt you, what I meant was--"
"I know already, Mingyu. Just stop." you sniffle and wipe your snot with the back of your hand, "I got it. It's me. I'm the problem. I'll always be the problem."
"That's not what I said, don't put words in my mouth--"
"Just leave me alone." And as if that might help, you whisper, "please." So he does. you hear his footsteps retract after a few beats of agonizing silence, and when he does walk away, you slump back into a small puddle of broken pieces of your heart as you try to hold it all together.
But it's not a memory that you can erase with just a few beers or some good sleep. It's a stain that will last forever, and you're not quite sure how you'll deal with that.
˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
"Hey Y/N?"
Your head rises from the slump of your arms. You're not quite sure how long you've been in the bathroom.
Mingyu knocks. You let out a sigh, but don't say anything. Nothing feels right at the moment, no words can seem to fill the empty, now awkward space between you and Mingyu.
"Y/N, I can leave you alone if you want," he pauses, "but...do you mind if I use the bathroom? I kinda...need to pee."
Fuck. Of course. Just when you're about to lose your mind and go on an existential crisis.
You unlock the bathroom after a beat of silence, not even bothering to look up at his face as you sidestep your boyfriend and make your way to the couch. You plop down onto it, hearing the sound of the door shut close as you find your usual navy blanket. It's warm and comforting, wrapping you up in its warmth as the toilet flushes, Mingyu's coughs reaching the living room area. The scent of roasted duck fills the room and you sniff appreciatively. Despite it all, it seems that the food has survived, a proof that no matter how much humans may suffer, they could still go about and do their things right.
"Y/N."
You jump slightly, turning your head in his direction but allowing your eyes to stray along his shirt. The silence answers in your stead.
"How are you feeling?"
You shrug once more. How are you even supposed to feel?
It's a weird contortion of things that make you want to hurl the living room chair at the tv and one that makes you want to curl up in bed and cry and cry and cry.
The couch dips under Mingyu's weight once he joins you on the couch. Still, you don't look at him, rather deciding that picking on your nails is a better option.
"Y/N," he says once more, before his big hand is reaching for yours and stopping your actions with a gentle grip, "don't do that. You're going to hurt yourself."
"That's the whole point," you mutter to yourself, though it's not quiet enough that he doesn't pick on it.
He squeezes your hand in response, "we talked about this before, didn't we? The nervous hand-picking."
"Can you just--" your voice raises, as if in a holler, only to die mid-way up your throat. You slump against the couch. You're tired and overwhelmed, and it shows.
The silence seems to stretch out before you, with only the slow hum of the fridge keeping you company as you keep on staring at the blank tv screen. How have you come to this? How are you fighting about someone that isn't even in the picture anymore?
Ah yes, because you decided to re-open that door and let yourself wonder, picture, your boyfriend with the likes of her when you know it's only going to induce more pain.
“I’m not going to tell you what to do, or how to feel,” Mingyu starts, his voice shattering the silence like glass. “But just so that you know, every time you talk about this — about her — it hurts me too, because she’s not my present and I’m not in love with her, not anymore. You talking about it makes me uncomfortable,” he peers over at your face, “do you understand that, Y/N?” He says it gently, all his words without bite.
“Then maybe if you had just talked it through with me without avoiding my questions all the time, maybe we wouldn’t be here,” you shoot back, “maybe you like to take the easy way out a little too much.”
“I did give you the chance to talk about it. Remember that night when I told you to ask me anything about her that you wanted to know about?”
Another onset of tears builds at the back of your throat. Why is he doing this to you? What have you ever done to deserve this?
You turn away from him almost instinctively. This time, Mingyu lets you do your thing, not even bothering to try and call your name and honestly, you don’t mind. You need some space to cry it out and be with yourself for a little while.
There’s so much you want to tell him: why did he even break up with her in the first place? Why did he choose you instead? Would things have been different if you hadn’t told him of your feelings?
Would you have been happier right now, if you’d never been together?
ʚ♡ɞ˚
It’s been a few days and you feel like a corpse.
Your life is a walking nightmare, your mind plagued by nothing but the pain of realizing you’re a second option to your boyfriend. You wish that he could walk in your shoes, only to get a glimpse of what’s going on inside your head. In any case, life feels dull and void of colour in contrast to the lights blazing across the streets to celebrate the new year’s coming up.
Mingyu doesn’t offer to talk it through and you take it as his way of telling you he’s not interested in your bullshit. So wrapping yourself up in your thickest blanket, you barely leave the flat on the days to come, if only for groceries. After all, you don’t see the point when your world is crumbling.
It’s on a Wednesday afternoon that Mingyu sends you a text while he’s at work. You receive it in mid-workout, frowning slightly as the message pops up on the screen.
Mingyu: do you have time this afternoon? Can we talk?
You type back your reply with a mere “yes” before resuming your squats with even more conviction. You decide that you have to brace yourself for anything that might happen, considering that you really did fuck up this time.
Will your heart be able to take it if he tells you to break it off?
All thoughts and memories of what would be your wedding, the concepts you’d conjured, the white dress that you’d fantasized over. All those things seem awash with the pain of knowing that maybe this won’t become a reality.
That hurts.
The afternoon crawls by at a snail’s pace and you spend it lumbering back and forth across the hallway as your brain tricks you into concocting all possible scenarios that might unfold; you and Mingyu breaking up is at the forefront of your mind, no matter how much you try to steer yourself away from it.
The door creaks open to signal Mingyu’s arrival. You freeze, fingers finding purchase onto your shirt as you grip its corners, panic suddenly overwhelming your senses.
He’s here, and he hasn’t greeted you yet.
You’re not sure how your heart will take it.
“Y/N?”
The scuff of his boots squeak against the silence of the corridor as he pulls them off. Small a small gesture, which holds so much meaning once you realize you might never hear it again.
You force out a reply, “yes?”
A few moments later, your boyfriend appears looking disheveled and, to your surprise, holding a bouquet of roses.
“Sorry if they’re a bit wimpy,” he says sheepishly while handing the flowers over, and you hope he hasn’t taken note of how your hands are trembling, “I was late to pick them up from the florist’s.”
Tears burned at the corners of your eyes. You looked up at him, eyelashes glimmering as your vision slowly blurred, “why?” You murmured.
“Because,” he shrugs then, a small gentle smile making its way to his face, “I know you’ve been going through a rough patch, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be taken care of.”
You couldn’t help it.
You burst into tears.
And Mingyu holds on to you as you sob and soband keep on sobbing. All the pain, the fear of losing him, the thought of never being enough… all of these mesh into you and cras through your body in waves that rocks your entire ecosystem. Mingyu is there through it all, murmuring soft encouraging words as he rocks you back and forth against his chest.
The crying stops at some point, leaving you numb and tired, a slumped figure that leans against your boyfriend while he’s gently pawing away at the caked tears along your cheeks.
“I’m sorry,” you murmur out, breaths shaking from emotion.
But Mingyu shakes his head, “it’s okay.”
“It’s not—okay, and I shouldn’t have acted this way,” you whisper out, “and I’m sorry if I keep pestering you about her but the truth is, I’m scared I might never be enough for you, Mingyu, because I’m not. You—You deserve everything.”
Mingyu stays silent, still brushing the tears away as you wait for his answer. He finally turns you to him, holds you close in his lap so that there’s no chance of escape even if you wanted to.
In his dark eyes tou see your reflection; a disheveled maniac looking like she’s been haunted for days.
Mingyu probably thinks so too.
“I understand,” he starts off softly, “how hard it is for you to imagine me with other people, it sucks. And it’s not great, especially when you know these people.”
Your chest aches, another pang of hurt ringing through your heart at the mention of her. You suck in a breath, but he continues:
“But I think otherwise. I think she made me realize that maybe, she’s not what I want, nor what I need,” something softens in his eyes then, hands squeezing your waist, “what I need is right here, and nowhere else, Y/N. So you can cry about not being the first, but trust me, I want to make you my last.”
Another sob racks its way up your throat. You blink furiously, hands finding purchase onto your sweater sleeves to bunch it up nervously, “do you—“ you stammer out the words, “do you mean that?”
Mingyu nods, the softest of smiles on his face, as your hands come up to wrap around his neck.
“You’re sure sure?” You peer up at him.
He chuckles, “I’m hundred percent sure.”
And proceeds to kiss your next words away as if to seal the deal, to show you that yes, you are the woman he’s been waiting for, the only one he’ll ever have to wait for.
Maybe that’s just a baby step in your world. You will have more days like this, more days of insecurity and fear and straight up panic. That’s not something that you fix overnight.
But for Mingyu, you’ll try anything to make your happy ending.

Tumblr media
Request: hi hi i hope ur having a great day! can i possibly request a #5 with svt seungkwan or a #6 with svt jeonghan? thank u!
Prompt:
6) "If you do that one more time, I don't think I'll be able to control myself."
Prompt list can be found HERE.
Pairing: Svt Jeonghan x Reader
Genre: Fluff/Steamy
.
The morning shone grey through the large windows bordering the bulk of the living room you had crashed in last night. You had woken with a start, immediately grabbing your phone and checking the time. 4 AM, perfect, just what you were aiming for.
Sitting up and yawning, you wrapped a blanket around your shoulders and began to trudge toward the kitchen. Your sole purpose this morning was to make a cake for Vernon and DK. The boys had been so busy over the past month that no one had even been able to stop for a breath and do a proper celebration. Granted, today likely wouldn't be a proper celebration either seeing as how everyone had early schedules, but you were determined to do something. They were both incredibly special and caring friends, and you wanted to recognize that.
Flipping up the light switch, you let out a small squeak. Sitting on the island in the kitchen was a steaming, hot cup of coffee. It was even in the mug you tended to favorite but thought no one had noticed.
"What?" you muttered, walking farther into the room. After really looking around, you observed that not only was there a cup of coffee prepared, but all of the ingredients/tools you would need were set out as well.
Had a kitchen fairy come in the night to assist you with your noble task?
Sidling up to the counter, you picked up the mug and relished the feeling of having something warm between your fingers. You closed your eyes before sniffing the blend and sighing.
"I used the Brazilian beans we picked up on tour," a sleepy voice croaked from the hallway.
Spinning slowly, careful not to spill your coffee, you locked eyes with a thoroughly sleep deprived Jeonghan.
"Why are you awake?" you asked, furrowing your brow. You knew Jeonghan, and you knew he valued his sleep above most things.
"When I was coming in last night, I heard you talking to Coups about your plans for this morning," he said calmly. You now noticed he held a cup in between his palms as well. "I thought about how happy it would make the members, but it made me sad to think about you up so early doing things all alone."
"Jeonghan," you pouted. Motioning to the stool pulled up to the counter, you draped the blanket that was on your shoulders on its seat. "Please sit."
"I said it made me sad, I didn't say it made me want to stay," he said, a smirk quirking at the corner of his lips.
"Alright, welp. Just go back to sleep then."
"Well, I'm awake now," he said, rolling his eyes and moving toward the stool you had just offered.
"Like that's stopped you before?" you asked, situating yourself in front of the ingredients. You set your cup down and began cracking eggs. "I don't want to put you out."
Picking up on your sarcasm, Jeonghan narrowed his eyes. "Being your assistant sounds like a charitable compromise."
"A charitable compromise," you scoffed. "How kind!"
"I thought so," he sighed, evidently pleased with himself.
"Even though you're a brat." You began to dump the mix into the bowl. "I really do appreciate you getting up and doing this."
"Do you though?" he mused. "Because calling someone who helped you a brat doesn't quite hold the sentiment you're going for."
"Yoon Jeonghan," you said, trying to school your features. "You are the ray of sun on this grey morning. Thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart."
"I suppose that'll do," he smiled, taking a long sip of what you thought was tea. "But would a little more sincerity kill you?"
"I am going to kill you if you do not stop harassing me," you grumbled, pointing the mixing spoon in his direction.
"Harassment is such a strong word, Y/N," he hummed. "In this house, we call it constructive criticism."
You let out an unexpected laugh. "Has anyone ever told you that you're too much?"
"What do you mean? I'm a joy," he grinned. "Now tell me, what exactly are you making?"
"Just a chocolate box mix," you sighed. "I don't really have time to go all Great British Bakeoff this morning."
Now that all the ingredients were added, all that was left was to stir. You did so quietly for a few minutes before realizing that Jeonghan had stopped talking. Assuming he may have started to nap on the counter instead, you looked up, surprised to find him watching what you were doing.
Looking back down, you ran a finger along the edge of the batter before popping it into your mouth. It had been ages since you had cake of any kind, let alone batter. Pulling your hand away, you let out a small sigh before closing your eyes and smiling.
"If you do that one more time, I don't think I'll be able to control myself."
Opening your eyes instantly, they darted in alarm to Jeonghan. Sure, Jeonghan had always playfully flirted with you, but that was just your relationship. He had never made a comment like that before.
He looked smug as you searched his face. It was hard to gauge how serious he was and what exactly he meant by the statement.
"I-uh," you stumbled, attempting to come up with a suitable response.
Before any words managed to escape, Jeonghan slid from his chair and began slowly sauntering over to you. Maintaining eye contact the entire time, he walked to the side of the counter, cementing you to the spot.
Ever so slowly he looked down, sticking his finger into the bowl too, and pulling it out, now covered in batter.
"I'm trying to cut out sugar," he whispered, putting his finger into his mouth.
Your heart dropped to your toes. He was fucking with you.
"Jeonghan," you groaned, reaching up and rubbing your forehead.
He pulled his digit from his mouth with a pop and grinned. "Yes?"
You just shook your head, grabbing a hold of the mixing spoon and placing it in your mouth as you reached for the cake pans. Moving them in front of you, you pulled out the wooden spoon and tossed it into the sink. You looked casually over to Jeonghan who had put all of his attention suddenly on your mouth.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"You've...you've got," he hummed, furrowing his brows.
Chocolate. Right.
Reaching up self-consciously, you swiped at either corner of your mouth. "Did I get it?"
"Stay still," he directed, walking over to where you were standing. Turning your back to the counter, you watched as Jeonghan positioned himself in front of you. "Right there."
Reaching up with his thumb, you felt his soft finger brush against the edge of your mouth, an area certain you had wiped before.
Your lips popped open in a combination of horror and arousal. You felt like you were in a drama as Jeonghan noted the chocolate now transferred to his finger before placing it in his mouth. Afterwards, he leaned forward, setting his palms against the counter on either side of you. "Am I still "too much"?"
"Yes," you muttered, feeling your face turn hot.
"Why?" he asked, tilting his head, his eyes dancing with mischief.
"Because you're being ridiculous," you said, your words barely a whisper.
"Ridiculously attractive?" he hummed. "Ridiculously charming? Please, finish your sentence."
"It is far too early in the morning for this," you groaned, closing your eyes. When you opened them again, you immediately attempted to move backwards but were halted by the counter. Jeonghan had moved his face only a hair's breadth away from yours.
"I don't think so," he whispered, placing a soft, ghost of a kiss on your lips. Leaning back slightly, he waited to see your reaction.
You reached up, moving your fingertips along your bottom lip, unsure of what had just occurred. Heat flooded your body as you realized, whatever it was, you liked it.
Seeing the recognition on your face made Jeonghan smile. This time when he moved forward, you weren't taken aback.
Throwing most of his body weight against you as he enclosed you against the island, his lips were quick to find yours again. Pressing into the kiss, you felt surrounded by all things Jeonghan. His scent, his taste; your senses were overloaded in the best way. His kisses were lazy, lacking any urgency or need. He knew he already had you and you weren't going anywhere.
Moving your hand to his jaw, you faltered for a moment, pressing gently on his face to push him away. "Jeonghan," you said softly against his lips. It took another try before your words caught his full focus.
"Hm?" he whimpered, moving from your mouth and to the tiny spot underneath your ear.
"The cake," you said regretfully. "We have to finish the cake."
"You can finish the cake," he hummed, taking your hips and spinning you around. His mouth was on your neck again. "I can assist from behind."
"Jeonghan!" you giggled.
"Alright," he muttered moving his face away from your body, but still holding tight to your hips. "How long does it need to bake for?"
"I dunno, like twenty-five minutes?" you guessed, having already thrown the box away.
"Do I have to spell it out for you?" he said, amusement tinting his words. "Hurry and put the cakes in the oven so I can have a full twenty-five minutes of your lips."
You laughed. "And after that?"
"They'll still eat it if it burns a little."

The Legend of The Sea |Epilogue |
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You're crying? You must be turning human, the MerFolk don't cry."
"Of course we do. Why do you think the Sea is nothing but salt?"
Pairing: Choi Seungcheol × reader
Genre: Heavy Angst, Romance, Implied smut
Word Count: 4K
A/n: It's finally here! I felt the angst level in the original fic was too high I wanted to give some closure but also maintain the bittersweet nature of their story so I tried my best, I hope its a satisfactory to you guys!
Read the fic here first!
3 months later.
Seungcheol stared at his reflection in the water.
Dark hair toussled messily in the wind, dark circles stark under his eyes. He hadn't slept in days....he couldn't.
Every time he closed his eyes he would go back to that night in his room.
You taking a step back and then another.
Your hair fluttering in the wind of the sea.
Your eyes, when you looked at him for the last time.
He just couldn't get it out of his head. The scene would play over and over and over in his head, as nightfall would turn to daybreak, forcing him out of the confines of his room, forcing him into court, forcing him into his role as King.
That was the unfortunate thing about being one - Seungcheol didn't have the time or the luxury to wallow in his own sorrows. He had a kingdom to look after and people to protect. That meant everyday, he had to be a leader, he had to be the bravest man in the nation. It was only in the darkness of his room, standing before the window, taking in your lingering scent and the echoes of your words that he was his true self - a broken, broken man.
If there was any place that could offer him even a sliver of solitude, it was here, at the seacave. Seungcheol didn't know why he found himself here so often. Even though it was the waters that so cruelly took you from him, perhaps being close to the ocean made him feel close to you. Or perhaps because sometimes, the sea would take pity and wash up little somethings from your life onto the shore - your favourite sea weed, or the rare sea flowers you loved to talk about or those pretty pearls in the oysters.
Over the days, Seungcheol had been collecting those little tidbits, filling the cave with signs and memories of you. He had moved your favourite dresses, your favourite books, everything precious to you that was left in his possession out here. This was his haven, his sanctuary - his last reminder of you. His castle and the men in his court were unfortunately not gracious enough to entertain Seungcheol's misery - they needed him to leave you behind, needed him to find a queen, a political alliance that could strengthen the kingdom. Yet another reason Seungcheol often found himself in the presence of the ocean - even though it was taunting, it was where you belonged and where he freely belonged to you.
Today too the ocean is mocking him not so subtly, as Seungcheol's eyes fell on a little something that washed up on the shore, something he was actually quite familiar with - your seashell necklace.
Many months ago, right here, around the time day blended into night, you met him, speaking urgently. You rambled about some mission, something you had to do, something he had to help you with. Handing him this very necklace, you told him one day you'll come to Land like a blank slate and asked him to return it to you when you felt most lost - you said that it would remind you of what you needed to do when the time came. Seungcheol did not understand at all. It didn't matter though, all he had to do was just help you however he could. Your mission was his mission.
Bending down, he picked up the necklace, wondering how exactly it aided you. He had been noticing changes in you for a while by the time he returned it to you. You were asking more questions about the ocean, you were more quiet, lost in thoughts, lost in a battle with yourself. Seungcheol knew he had to let you figure things out, that's what you told him and that's what he did. By the time he came from war, the way you held onto him when he finally recovered told him something had drastically changed. Before he could even attempt to fathom what it was things had escalated - his father died, you were jailed for an assassination attempt and Seungcheol was forced to become king to free you.
Maybe if he hadn't let you go, you'd still be there, not beside him but at least he'd have the knowledge and the surety that you were okay. But Seungcheol couldn't bind you like that, he couldn't strip you of the one thing you valued the most about being in the ocean - your freedom. He had to let you go, but he didn't think you'd have gone this far away from him.
"She always manages to find a way doesn't she?"
Seungcheol stumbled back at the sound of a voice, completely taken aback. Before him was a woman who was definitely old but didn't seem it - she had a staff in one hand, and had donned clothes that made her look like she was in the waters though she was clearly floating above it. It was an apparition......this was magic - that meant she was a woman of the sea.
"The Sea Witch." She corrected his thought, pointing. "And the owner of that."
Seungcheol glanced at the necklace in his hand. "This is Y/n's."
The old lady let out a laugh, shaking her head. "I told you, she's a smart one that one. Always a step ahead, even of me." As she floated closer to him, Seungcheol did not take a worried step back. "Your lovely Y/n, she was an apprentice in my practice, all members of the Royal family are bound to work under me to understand sea magic-"
"Royal family?" Seungcheol blinked hard and fast. "Y/n.... she's....royalty?"
"Strange isn't it? Neither did you know you were in love with the youngest princess of the Sea, neither did she know she was in love with the only Prince of the land. Things would have been so different had you both known....."
"I don't understand." Seungcheol rubbed his head. "What do you mean?"
"Do you know why Y/n came to land King Choi?"
"I figured it was to kill my father-"
"The king." She corrected. "Y/n's mission was to kill the king. Did you ever wonder why?"
"I pondered about it day and night. The only explanation I could think of was...." Seungcheol recalled that fateful day. "It has something to do with my father setting sail."
"Indeed." She confirmed, making Seungcheol's heart sink in his chest. He knew that was a bad idea, he had voted against it. And with each word of the story that the Sea witch proceeded to tell him, it only made it worse.
"So...." He tried to process everything that had happened. It all made sense and also didn't at the same time. "Y/n had to kill my father or me to get back her kingdom. How did you or anyone think she could have done that without her memories? How could you expect that-"
"Was she not nearly successful King Choi?" The Sea Witch smiled knowingly. "Did you think the Hwangs would set her up to a mission that she could easily fulfill? Their plan was to tie her ancient sea magic, to ensure that she would fail in all ways possible, but your woman..... she's a warrior. She's one of the finest battle strategist the sea has ever seen and she had cleverly planned everything in her favour. That necklace...." She chuckled looking at his hands. "That is one of my most prized possessions, something she knew I would help her in exchange for and so she planted it with you and used it when the time came. She always finds a way King Choi, you see how its reached you again? How she sent me to you?"
Seungcheol stared at the seashell pendant. He had just thought of it as a pretty reminder of where you were from. He didn't know it was your secret weapon. That there was so much to this.
"And what do you want in exchange for it?" The Sea Witch stepped ahead, mistaking his wandering into the past as hesitance. "What is it that you want?"
Seungcheol let out a sad chuckle. There was only one thing he ever wanted.
"You can't give it to me." He held out his hand, returning the necklace to its rightful owner. "You can't bring her back."
"But I can."
The crashing waves were not louder than the racing of Seungcheol's heart against his chest.
"Only the dead can't be brought back King Choi. The living just need to be moved around."
The living.
"That's not possible." Seungcheol shook his head. "I know how Sea magic works, she's told me before, you just told me! I saw the sea foam myself....." He wrapped his hand around shell, its sharp edge bleeding him over a wound that never healed. "How is it possible?"
"Because of that." She pointed at the crimson of his hand dripping into the golden sand. "The Sea works in mysterious ways King Choi; magic works in mysterious ways too. When Y/n fell into the Sea that day, so did the dagger, with your blood on it. Blood for blood. I believe the sea magic was satisfied."
Seungcheol felt a ragged breath leave him. "She's.... alive?"
"Barely."
The Sea Witch waved her staff in the air, making the waters rise like a screen, the evening light behind it projecting an image. It was you, sitting down somewhere on the floor, hugging your legs, softly rocking back and forth. Your arms looked a lot thinner than usual, cheeks sunken in, eyes tired and fluttered shut.
"The Sea might have spared her but the Hwangs didn't. The mission was to kill the king. Your father died a natural death and if it had ended at that, there was nothing to argue but unfatefully, before the completion of 100 days, there was another king." Seungcheol felt his insides turn. "She failed to kill you and so she wasn't deemed worthy of the crown. When Hwangs took over, their first order was to imprison her to avoid any rebellion from her side against the new kingdom."
The Sea Witch tilted her head at him, smiling sadly. "Strange isn't it? What you did to save her was what ended up being her downfall. Fate too works in mysterious ways."
Seungcheol swore if fate appeared before him right now, he would crush it with his bare hands.
"I'll get her back." Never before did he feel the kind of determination coursing through his veins. The image of you slowly disappeared as the sea witch lowered her staff looking amused. "I'll save her no matter what it takes."
"Y/n doesn't need your saving King Choi. She went to prison willingly." Seungcheol’s lips parted in shock. "Taking into consideration that you became King only the night before a 100 days completed, the Council of the Sea offered her one more chance to go to Land and kill you. She refused. She said she would prove her worth for the throne in the Sea itself. Sure she's benevolent, loves her people and is loyal to her kingdom, but the fact is that she was simply not trained for administration - she was no match for the Hwangs and so the Council declined her claim to the throne."
You refused to kill him. Again. Even if meant saving yourself and everything you cared about. Seungcheol was determined to do whatever it took to get you back. Unite heaven and earth if it came to it. Bring hell from underground, whatever it took.
"Then I'll get her throne back. If that's what it takes to free, I'll do it. Even if it means war. I have been working on science that would allow us to breath in water - we'll set sail, we'll fight, we'll free her, I can do it."
The Sea Witch stared at him, at his pacing agitated self, his mind going mad with just one goal.
"Do you know how magic really came to the sea King Choi?"
Seungcheol blinked, taken aback by the irrelevant question but didn't show it. "The Kangs escaped into it with the spectre of magic....." His eyes focused on the staff in her hand, words faltering as he recognised it from the faint drawings in his old books.
"Escaped?" She laughed without humour. "That's hardly the word King Choi - it was an act of love." Seungcheol frowned in confusion as she continued. "Though both families were neck deep in war, of all the people in the world, the Prince of the Choi kingdom was deeply in love with the Kang Princess. It was his love that brought the spectre of magic to the Kangs, allowing them to hide from battle. It was his love that stopped the war, separated both worlds and ensured peace and it was her love that ensured her people survived. Its her love that still keeps them alive even after so many years."
Seungcheol felt like something stabbed him in his chest as he looked at the Sea witch, grip tight over her staff, looking older than time and in her eyes he recognised the look he always saw in his own - a pining, a fruitless longing for the ones they loved. It was her, she was the Kang Princess. "Their love saved the world, you cannot allow yours to end it King Choi. You cannot declare war between two worlds over a mere desire."
Every bit of hope that had risen in Seungcheol crumbled miserably. "Is there nothing I can do? How am I supposed to just sit still knowing she's not alright?"
"Forget her Seungcheol."
" I can't-"
"Listen to me," She urged urgently. "If you don't bring war to Sea, the Hwangs will eventually bring it to Land. There's a reason the people of the Sea do not want them on the throne - they don't care for anything before power. The only strength the Sea had over Land was magic, but now with people here slowly discovering it, with people like you letting your inquisitiveness take over, the Hwangs feel threatened. So I have a solution if you're willing to listen."
Seungcheol nodded.
"Relinquish your knowledge of the Sea and as King, give me permission to take the same away from your people. I will make a deal with the Hwangs - your memories in exchange for Y/n's freedom."
Seungcheol looked at her with hope. "Do you think that would work?"
"Do you think you can do it? Forgetting about the sea would mean, forgetting about her too. You won't remember anything about her, it will be like she never even existed." She looked af him sadly. "But she will be free and she will be home."
Not having even a memory of you? All Seungcheol ever knew was his love for you, if he forgot that, what would he be but a shell of a man? But if it meant you'd be free, that you'd be safe, what else could possibly matter to him?
Seungcheol didn't remember much of what happened after he nodded. He rememebered thick black smoke rising above the forest right from the castle, prompting him to immediately get on his horse and ride towards the fire. It was his library. He watched the guards pour buckets of water to douse the flames but unfortunately it only stopped after every single inch was reduced to ashes. As Seungcheol walked in the aftermath, he racked his brains to remember what exactly was in here and if it truly was valuable or not. Considering he could barely recollect what was here, he figured it must not have been too important and sent orders for the place to be cleaned and the room to be redone. After all, the new queen would need a space of her own.

8 years later
It all began again the day you woke up on the beach.
The air was cool, the sand was hot; the seagulls were flying across the blue sky, the sound of the waves was like a beautiful melody – it was like a perfectly painted picture. It felt serene and pleasant and like home, like nothing could make this moment feel better.
Then you heard the laughter. A familiar, beautiful laughter and so this time, you didn’t hide.
Adjusting your red dress, you pulled yourself up to your feet, leaning against the big boulder and there you saw them, Seungcheol laughing at Kkuma as the little ball of fluff rolled about in the sand. The tightness that did not leave your chest the last eight years slowly began to unravel. There was so much happiness in his laughter, so much life in the way he chased his dog in the sand. It was like he had none of the pain that you were carrying for almost a decade.
Of course, he didn’t. The Sea Witch told you what happened, that he had given up all his memories of the Sea to save you. That he had given up all his memories of you. You knew that meant he didn’t pine for you the way you did for him all these years, but you didn’t think you’d see him so carefree. Something about the way your existence didn’t seem to even affect him sent a strange sadness rippling through you. Maybe coming here was a mistake. What if he had moved on? What if he got married and had a family? What if you returning made no difference to him? You could understand Seungcheol not remembering you but the thought of you not mattering to him anymore? You don’t think you could handle that; you should have never come here.
You took a step back and then another, pulling yourself away from there, pulling yourself away from him when you felt yourself knock into something that let out a small cry. You turned around to see a small boy rubbing his head vigorously, looking at you full of accusation. He looked young, like he was five or six, dressed in the finest of clothes, his hair windswept to the side. You got on your knees, meeting him at eye level to apologise when you felt yourself being knocked over into the sand by a familiar ball of white. Kkuma barked excitedly, covering your in wet licks, making you laugh, the pain in your heart slightly ebbing. Maybe not everyone had forgotten you.
“Kkuma never plays with strangers.” The young boy narrowed his eyes at you. “Who are you?”
You looked at him at a loss of words, when a shadow fell over you making you look up to see a silhouette against the sun. It's only when he crouched beside you that you could see all his features clearly - he's gotten a little old over the years but he still looks like Seungcheol. Your Seungcheol.
“You’re not supposed to be here. The beach is off limits.” He stated and you looked at him pointedly. Somehow, he understood the question in your eyes. “I’m not supposed to be here either but…. Something about the Sea keeps pulling me to it and I am the King so…”
You politely bowed, as one would to a King.
“I’ve not seen you around. Are you from out of town?”
You nodded. You didn't know what else to say to him. How could you explain the events of the last 8 years? Before you were taken away to prison the one thing you managed to do was get a hold of the Sea Witch's shell necklace and guided it to reach him with the little magic you knew. You knew it would bring her to him like it did to you, that it would offer him and explanation and a closure but the result of that ended up so much different than you had expected - you'd lost him in ways you didn't imagine.
After you were released from prison there was only one thing to do - get the Hwangs out of power. So you spent years assembling an army, figuring out the best way to crumble this empire when you received news that your sister was not in fact missing but hidden away by the Hwangs in an attempt to take over the throne. After you had successfully plotted and managed to break her free, even though the Sea Council deemed she was the best fit for the throne, the Hwangs did not surrender. Days and nights you battled, the sea was plagued with storms and horrifying events until finally one day, the hwangs fell from power, returning peace to the waters. It was only after you put your sister on the throne, made sure that the Sea was in safe hands that the Sea witch confided in you - once you gained the ability to breath on Land, you'd always have it - you could go back to Seungcheol.
And here you were, with him right before you, with nothing stopping the two of you from being together yet in his eyes, you were nothing but a mere stranger. You wondered if this was how he felt when he found you so many years ago, when you didn't look at him with an ounce of recognition. It must've hurt, like the way it was hurting now but it did not stop him from looking after you, guiding you, making you fall in love with him all over again.
"So you don't have a place to stay?"
You shook your head.
"Can you not speak?" The little boy quipped, earning a glare from the older man. It made you smile as you nodded. Things had not changed on Land.
Seungcheol eyes though wandered over you like he was trying to see through you, figure you out. They stopped at the shell necklace resting on your neck, one last gift from the sea witch before you left the ocean for good. On it engraved were the words,
"Till death do us part." Seungcheol read and you nodded, echoing his words. "Till death do us part."
He met your eyes and you wondered if be could see how much you longed for him, how much you missed him. His lips parted like he wanted to say something but was interrupted by the little boy standing in between, holding the pendant in his hand.
"Is this from the sea?" You nodded, making his eyes shine in excitement. "My father loves the sea, he thinks there's life under it! He keeps researching and studying about it everyday. Do you know? Have you seen life under the sea-"
Seungcheol pulled the child away from you, mumbling, asking him to play with kkuma who just refused to leave your side. You nearly smiled thinking about how Seungcheol somehow gravitated back to the waters but couldn't bring yourself to when the boy's words ring in your head.
"Father?" You looked at Seungcheol hoping he couldn't see how broken your heart was. Of course he'd moved on.
"I adopted him when he was really young. He was found abandoned at the steps of a church. He needed a parent and the kingdom needed an heir, so....." Seungcheol wasn't quite sure why he was explaining so much to you, a stranger. Something about the questions in your eyes just compelled him to.
"And the Queen?" Your fingers played with the sand, trying not to sound too hopeful.
"I don't have one." Seungcheol confessed. "I could just not bring myself to have one, I don't know why....."
His words trailed odd as he looked at you and that little smile dancing on your lips. God you were so beautiful, why did you make his heart clench like that? He cleared his throat, shaking his head.
"If you don't have a place to stay, you may stay in the Palace till you can arrange for you accommodation. I shall personally look after the necessities, is that okay?"
You nodded slowly as Seungcheol stood up, but this time when he held his hand to help you, you took it, with an unsaid promise to yourself and him, never to let go again.
You were going to make this man fall in love with you all over again. Just like he did.

As you stood there, watching the sunset on the eve of your 20th birthday, a whirlwind of emotions swirled within you. The vibrant hues of orange and pink painted the sky, casting a mesmerizing glow over the world around you. It was a moment of transition, bidding farewell to the carefree days of your teens and embracing the uncertainties of adulthood.
"Hey, you okay?"
The voice pulled you out of your reverie, and you turned to see Dokyeom, your brother's best friend, standing beside you. His presence brought a sense of comfort, a familiar warmth that eased the turmoil in your heart.
You nodded, offering him a faint smile before turning your gaze back to the setting sun. The world seemed to slow down, time stretching out into an infinite moment of fleeting beauty.
Dokyeom's hand gently tousled your hair, a playful gesture that made your heart flutter. Despite the years that had passed, he still treated you with the same affection as when you were a child. But deep down, you yearned for something more.
"Let's continue the celebration downstairs. Your mother is looking for you," he suggested, his smile radiant in the fading light.
You nodded, following him as you descended the stairs together. The air was filled with laughter and chatter, the sound of joyous celebration echoing through the halls. But amidst the revelry, your mind lingered on a promise made long ago.
"Oppa," you called out softly, the endearment slipping from your lips almost instinctively.
Dokyeom turned to you, his gaze filled with warmth and curiosity. There was an unspoken bond between you, a connection that transcended mere friendship.
"I'm 20 now," you declared, a hint of determination in your voice.
His smile widened, a twinkle of pride in his eyes. "Yes, you are already a grown-up. Time really flies so fast. Our baby is now a fine lady. But don't worry, you will always be our flower."
His words touched your heart, but beneath the surface, a longing stirred within you. You wanted him to see you not just as a sister, but as something more.
"Do you remember the promise I made to you when I was 6 and you were 10?" you asked, a hint of mischief dancing in your eyes.
Confusion flickered across Dokyeom's face as he tried to recall the memory. But before he could respond, you took a bold step forward, closing the distance between you.
With a playful smile, you tiptoed and pressed a tender kiss to his cheek, the soft brush of your lips leaving him stunned. It was a fleeting moment, but in that brief touch, a lifetime of emotions was conveyed.
As you pulled away, a rush of adrenaline surged through you, and you fled the room, leaving Dokyeom standing there, bewildered yet strangely exhilarated.
In the quiet of the hallway, memories flooded his mind, a kaleidoscope of moments shared between you. And amidst the chaos of his thoughts, one promise echoed louder than the rest.
"When I turn adult, let's get married."
A smile tugged at Dokyeom's lips as he remembered the innocence of your childhood vow. It was a dream whispered in secret, a wish born from the depths of your heart.
With a newfound resolve, he followed you downstairs, the echo of your laughter guiding him forward. And as you rejoined the celebration, you shared a knowing glance, a silent acknowledgment of the bond that bound you together.
In that moment, amidst the laughter and the music, you knew that your story was just beginning, a tale of love and destiny waiting to unfold.

"We've been here once before, right?"
Tumblr media
With one last huff, Shownu dropped the limp body of the man he had been punching only seconds ago. The white dress shirt now covered in blood, stuck to his body as he adjusted the sleeves. With the hand he had used to cause the damage surrounding him, he wiped his mouth and spat on the floor.
Bodies were scattered all over the club floor, which was usually filled with dancing feet and people drinking and celebrating. Only a few moments ago, music was playing, drinks were being shared, couples were making out, and just within a split second, everything stopped. And it all started with a woman and two men, that suddenly turned into an entire troupe with no trace of her.
The men of Monsta X stood at different points within the room, now looking at the mess they created. Heavy breathing filled the space, coughing coming from each corner. The lights were still dimmed, just like they would be on any other day, the soft red beams striking the walls.
"What the fuck just happened?!" The panicked voice of Changkyun, the newest and youngest member of Seoul's most notorious gang, echoed through the club.
With a low chuckle, the leader lifted his head, his eyes immediately scanning the men in front of him - the other group they had decided to trust merely a few weeks ago. All were breathing harshly, gazing at the ground in almost horror. Shownu's glare fixated on one person in particular.
"Yeah, Jeon." Wonwoo looked up, the cold look meeting his. "What the fuck just happened."
The SVT men's heads shot to the guy they considered their leader. The man that had brought them to where they were then and now. But he just gently shook his head, his palms open as he pointed with them to his surrounding.
"These are your enemies Son, not mine."
Shownu took one step closer, his leg lifting to cross the body ahead of him. "Then explain to me how they got in here. You really think I'd leave my doors open for my own enemies."
Everyone knew what he was indicating. They all knew it from the beginning.
The whole vision of Monsta X and SVT working together came out of thin air almost. It was Wonwoo's idea. Of course, it was. He wanted to do right what his father did wrong. And number one on the list longer than his lifeline was to fix the relationship between the long-lasting rivalry between the Sons and the Jeons. What started off with a purely business idea had turned into gang work decades ago. Each leader brought their family into it, and if you were the son of said man, you would be the next in line to lead a future team. No questions.
It had been Wonwoo's biggest nightmare. It had haunted him all throughout his childhood, up until the day he was officially assigned to the position he had been trying to avoid his entire life. But with a new generation came new connections and new leaders in line. Wonwoo had hoped Shownu would accept his offer and attempt to fix their families' rivalry instead of trying to bury each other six feet under.
It all had been going well up until that night because what goes around, comes around and Wonwoo had learned that the hard way.
"Look," he spoke up. "I don't know what you think of me, and I honestly don't care. But I couldn't give less of an interest in these guys when I was just trying to work with you, alright?" He tilted his head in a slightly demeaning way. "So maybe you should start looking for a wolf in sheep's clothing."
If the breathing of each man in the room hadn't been so unbearably loud, you would've felt the immediate change of atmosphere in the shared space. Wonwoo should've regretted the words he had just let fall from his lips, but he didn't. He couldn't. Mingyu dreaded getting closer to his leader, his best friend but knew better and stayed in the back, covering the other members he considered family.
Shownu's hands found their way into his pockets as he casually took a few more forward, his broad shoulders chilling along with with his body. His tongue glided over his teeth. "Are you trying to set me up against my own men?"
"I'm not trying to set you up against anyone. I'm only giving you possibilities." Wonwoo shrugged. He didn't budge. Not with each step the other leader got closer to him. Not even a little bit.
Shownu continued until the two men were nose to nose in front of each other, glaring into their souls. He gave the other man a quick up-and-down look before opening his mouth.
"Vernon." He got the attention of the, back then, youngest that had stayed back in a different room, only joining the other men once he heard the dead silence. "Start cleaning up the mess." Meaning the corpses on the floor. The blood splashes on the tiles would come later.
The youngster gulped, looking around the room, trying to lock eyes with one of his friends, begging for help, but all they did was copy his facial expression. Wonwoo's scoff reached their ear.
"Ehm," Vernon cleared his throat. He started nodding hesitantly, glancing at each body. "Yeah, yeah... I'll... do that." Just as he was about to bend down, his leader's deep voice bounced off the walls.
"Vernon," still staring at Shownu, no blink shared between them. "Don't you dare even lift a finger."
The older guy raised his left eyebrow. "Now, suddenly you're the one giving orders?"
"They listen to me. They're not one of your maids." Wonwoo spat back.
Shownu chuckled, looking around the room, almost finding humour in the situation. "And here I thought we would finally become one, but no, the Jeon ego just always gets in the way." Looking down at the floor, he kicked one of the bodies to give him more space. His arms were crossed in front of his chest. His glare fell back on Wonwoo. "You know, I had my doubts, Jeon. I really did. But here you waltzed in with your cute little entourage of businessmen wannabe gangsters, begging for forgiveness for all the shit your ancestors did, and I almost wanted to believe you. Almost. And then pull this shit here." He opened his arms widely, welcoming the mess around him.
"I said it before, I'll say it again. I have nothing to do with what happened here." SVT's leader pulled his sleeves up higher from where they fell down during his fight with one of the guys that attacked him in the scene that happened only a few minutes ago. "But you know," he took a deep breath, "It's always difficult trusting new people." His eyes fell on the newest and youngest addition of Monsta X. A person he considered a past friend, now long forgotten.
"And here you go doubting my men again." With quick strokes, Shownu was at arm's length of Wonwoo. "I'd better watch my mouth if I were you and want to keep living my life, Jeon. Or imma end it real quick for you."
Wonwoo casually put his hands into his pocket, sighing in boredom. "You can keep your trust issues to yourself, Son. I don't want to have anything to do with that."
Shownu squinted his eyes at the younger man before erupting in laughter, scaring not only the men on the other side but his own as well. Madness wasn't a level the leader had reached yet. But maybe the time had come.
"You know, you truly are just like your father. Just... utterly intolerable.-"
"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" Wonwoo's facial expression changed within less than a second. His eyes glared holes into the man in front of him, his mouth slightly agape.
A low chuckle shook Shownu's body. "First blind, and now he's also turning deaf," glancing at his members that joined in on the humourous reaction, before turning back to Wonwoo, who still kept his nose up high. "I said, you're exactly like your father. So you better bet-" And that's when the first fist flew. Wonwoo's knuckles clashed against the other man's jaw, a crack coming from the impact, but who got hurt more was unknown.
Shownu couldn't help but to stumbled back slightly, his fingers grazing over the burning bruise forming on his skin. He just had to chuckle.
"Struck a nerve?"
"I don't think I should be the one keeping my mouth shut."
Shownu straightened his back followed by cracking his neck by moving his head from side to side. "You really want to go separate ways like this?"
Wonwoo shrugged. "I think you'd enjoy that."
Monsta X's leader nodded, "Oh, you better I'm gonna enjoy this." Before crossing the floor to let his fist collide with Wonwoo's stomach. He was quick to catch himself from stumbling too much, reaching out to grab the man's collar, pulling him in closer, only to send him crashing against the bar counter.
That's all it took for the other men of the gang to go up against Wonwoo's group, running towards them individually, preparing themselves to follow their leaders into another fight when they had only just won one.
Minhyuk got a hold of Dokyeom, throwing him onto the floor quickly, but the younger man managed to pull him down with him.
Kihyun didn't see Hoshi, who had snuck up behind him, his arm circling around his throat to cut off the air, causing the Monsta X member to choke loudly before knocking both of them back into the wall, earning a grunt from Hoshi.
Hyungwon got rid of his jacket to wrap it around Seungkwan's wrists skillfully, pulling the younger one closer to him and twisting his arms around to his back, getting a cry out of pain in return.
The grunt reached Mingyu's ear, making him run towards the duo, only to be stopped when Wonho bumped into him as S.Coups had punched his face, involving now also the tallest member even though he just wanted to get the second youngest of the group, who had now managed to free himself and turned the fight around. Changykun was close by when his eyes found his member fighting off the eldest and the tallest members of SVT, alerting him. He snatched a glass off one of the small tables, taking it along with him. Right as he showed up behind Mingyu, he smashed the glass against his head before getting a hold of his dress shirt and dragging him off his fellow member.
Wonwoo and Shownu had gotten their own space behind the bar, earning punch after punch from each other, interrupted by a few bottles being thrown or kicks to the legs.
Huffs, grunts, moans in pain, and cracking bones were the only sounds filling the club that usually only housed music and skin-against-skin slapping during sexual encounters.
If the space didn't already look messy enough from the party before, it now seemed more than just destroyed. Glass pieces decorated the floor and bodies, the suit jackets the men had worn before were scattered on different furniture and sticky fluids covered all possible surfaces.
Shownu managed to get a hold of Wonwoo's thick set of hair, holding his head up against his, his low voice ringing through his ear.
"You're a fucking rat, Jeon. Not a bit better than your father. You're the same asshole he was and will forever be exactly just that." With full force, he pushed the younger man's head against the bar countertop. He kept pressing down while Wonwoo wiggled around, trying to get out of the situation. He was about to kick back, hoping to hit his kneecap when the pressure against the side of his skull lifted. With a quick push, he was back up on his feed, watching what had happened. He found Vernon, standing behind Shownu, a pole in his hand, with which he must've hit the Monsta X leader as he was holding the back of his head, glaring at the youngest.
Wonwoo took the chance to snap off the metal hose that was connected to a beer chug underneath the counter. Just as Shownu was about to connect his fist with Vernon's face, SVT's leader wrapped the house around the older man's neck, pulling him up against his chest. Wonwoo tightened it as much as possible, hoping to knock the other man out when Shownu smacked his head back against Wonwoo's forehead, making him lose the grip on the hose. With a quick move, Shownu got a hold of the younger one's shirt and lifted him slightly, only to throw him over the bar counter. Wonwoo's back hit the floor, making him grunt out loud as he felt the tiniest splinters of glass boring his skin.
He knew he had to get up quickly, no matter how much pain he was in. His head was throbbing, there was a continuous ringing in his ear, and his glasses were God knows where at this point - he cursed whoever was up there for his terrible eyesight. He could feel the blood trickling down his back and hands as he got up, his jaw feeling swollen, and his left eye was almost glued together from the blood that had already started to dry out.
Shownu came around the corner, spitting out a tooth onto the floor as his gaze was back on his rival. He watched the man come back to his feet. The action made him chuckle.
"You better not die on my floor."
Wonwoo glared at him. "You wish. A Jeon's corpse in your club must be like Christmas to you."
His comment made Shownu smirk. "You know me too well." Before running up to the younger man again, raising his fist. Wonwoo was quick to react and duck out of the way, snatching a knife he saw earlier from the countertop, only to jam it into the older one's shoulder. He cried out in pain, stumbling forward as he tried to reach for it, but it was stuck in a place he couldn't reach. He turned around in anger, his face burning red. Shownu was met with a gun pointed directly at him.
"Who would've thought Jeon Wonwoo carries a gun with him," he choked out, slight amusement concealing his voice.
Wonwoo shook his head, his breathing still harsh as he tried not to fall to the ground. "It's not mine."
That's when Shownu noticed the sudden silence in the room. Ahead of him was Seungkwan laying on the ground, Hyungwon right next to him, his own gun pointed at Wonwoo. Wonho was knocked out on the floor with S.Coups and Mingyu sitting on one of the blood-covered couches, Changkyun right underneath Mingyu's foot, begging for air.
Hoshi was coming closer to the leading duo, Kihyun's gun now in Hoshi's hands as he held it right against his rival's temple with his other arm tight around his throat.
Everything was quiet when a painful cough echoed through the room. Through a door, that was now flat on the floor, came Dokyeom crawling on his knees while Minhyuk pushed him further with his foot. Wonwoo locked eyes with his member, who glanced at his leader in despair and embarrassment. He nodded at the younger member to reassure him before directing his attention back to his rival.
The gun was still pointing directly at Shownu, who had decided to stay still on the floor, but he chuckled with a salty undertone.
"So you want a Son's corpse in this club?"
Wonwoo shook his head, lowering the gun in his hand. "I don't want you dead. I don't need any blood on my hands."
"Look around you. Look at what you did, Jeon." The Monsta X leader tried to trick him.
"These guys are passed out for good, but not dead." His statement earned him a look of confusion from Shownu, so he continued, "I teach my men how to fight. Not how to kill." He dropped the gun and threw it towards the leader on the floor before turning around, only to get stopped when the older man got up. He told the other members to lower their weapons with a quick hand move.
"You're still a rat." Wonwoo turned around one last time at the sudden comment. "I should've listened to my father. Don't trust a Jeon. Never trust a Jeon."
He got a nod from SVT's leader in return, who exchanged glances with his guys, making them stand up as Mingyu rushed over to help Dokyeom up from the floor.
With a quick glance at Shownu, he bid his goodbye. "Well. From now on, you won't have to anymore." And started walking towards the door, the other members in trail close behind him. He couldn't help but to let out the last comment that kept tickling his tongue before exiting through the front door. "You better start cleaning up the mess if you want the club to re-open tomorrow."
Outside, each man was finally able to breathe in the fresh air, sounding like men starved from breathing for a decade as they enjoyed the night breeze that struck their bruised skin. Wonwoo immediately started looking around for the youngest member. He quickly found his silhouette sitting on the side of the pavement, a cigarette dangling between his lips. Right next to him, was the limp body of the security guard that had let them in about two hours ago. The sight made the leader almost chuckle.
"How's the guy?" He asked the youngster, who had turned around, nudging his head towards the buff man on the floor.
Vernon puffed out the last bit of his cigarette. "Knocked out pretty good. He won't remember any of this in a few hours."
Wonwoo nodded, "Good," and patted the shoulder of the younger member, giving him a quick glance. "Well done."
"Thanks, boss."
-
Not even letting anyone else interrupt, the man, apparently called Shownu, continued right after he brushed off the two women on each side of him, followed by his colleagues doing the same thing. "I see you replaced your little entourage with something much much more beautiful. Hey." His eyes were fixed on your form, noticing how you had tried to hide half of your body behind the CEO's frame.
"I'm more important than her right now, Son," Wonwoo's deep voice sliced the room while you watched the women awkwardly jogging out of the room.
The other man scoffed, exchanging amused glances with his friends before locking eyes with you again. "Well, how dare you say something like that about such a beauty. What's your name, darling?"
"I swear-"
"You should've brought the other guys if you didn't want me to talk to her, Jeon." Shownu cut off Wonwoo right away. His legs were still wide, his back relaxed against the back of the couch, the other men in similar poses.
A low chuckle came from the one on the right. "He knew they wouldn't survive another visit."
"You weren't even here the last time, so shut your fucking mouth, Jooheon," Wonwoo snapped at him. He jumped up from the couch immediately, ready to rush over to the two of you, when his leader stopped him.
"Boys, boys, calm down." He stood up with a grunt, taking two steps forward. His right hand held onto the wrist of his other one, giving a clear stance of power as he gave you another look that ran up and down your body, shooting a cold shiver through your body. "I'm sure Sir Jeon Wonwoo right here is smarter than that, right? Like you said, it would just make a terrible mess, wouldn't it?"
Not getting a verbal answer in return, was enough for him to continue. "Well then." He clapped his hands, rubbing them together. "Let's not play around and cut to the chase, huh?" His eyes met Wonwoo's cold glare. "Why the fuck do I have your feet on my ground again? And more importantly-" Before bending down to the side slightly to find you. "What is a lady like you doing in a hellhouse like this?"
Uncontrollably, you lifted your hand to touch Wonwoo's back, hooking your fingers into the small belt thing in the back of his suit jacket. Wonwoo knew better than to spit at Shownu again, but he could also feel the fear radiating off your body, making him change his stance just slightly, hoping it would go unnoticed by his rival. Of course, it didn't.
With a bright smile, the other man opposite you took a step to the side, extending his arm to point at the seating arrangement behind him.
"Please." All while keeping his eyes on you. You tried to look away, tried breaking the intense contact he held with you, but it seemed almost impossible.
In the first second, your brain didn't want to understand what he was proposing, but you quickly caught onto it, shaking your head softly in response. Opening your mouth, your voice seemed so much smaller than you had wanted to. It was bound to happen, in a room as big as that, surrounded by men with their physiques.
You gently raised a hand. "I... I'm good."
Shownu stood back straight, raising one eyebrow. "I wasn't asking, darling."
All while Wonwoo was unresponsive. No change in posture, no noticeable uneven breathing. Not even a clenched fist. It seemed as if he almost didn't care about his possible biggest rival inviting the woman behind him to come closer. You let your eyes travel to the side, hoping to catch a glimpse of him looking down at you, letting you know what to do, but the CEO continued to keep his head up high, glaring at the man in front of the two of you.
With each passing second spent in unbearable silence, Shownu got more and more impatient, slowly but surely also rubbing off on the other men of his in the room as they sat forward, their arms resting on their upper thighs.
Deciding that keeping that man waiting any longer couldn't result in anything good, you dared to make your left foot step forward. You didn't even get to finish it before Wonwoo's body was quickly in front of you, hiding your entire frame behind his shoulders.
You heard Shownu sigh. "Move, Jeon."
He shook his head in return as his hand moved behind his back, showing you his palm. You were unsure if it was an act of courtesy or if he wanted you to place yours in his palm, so you just continued standing still. One glance behind you let you know that the security men were just as unamused about you two being there as the owners of the club.
"She has nothing to do with this. I'm here-"
"You know the rules, Won." A different voice suddenly spoke up. The man on the left side of the couch decided to speak up, using a nickname you hadn't even heard coming from Mingyu. Ever.
Noticing his fingertips moving, you looked down and found them extended as if waiting for something to hold onto. You hesitated at first but once you saw him clearly indicating you to place your hand in his, you did as asked. With one swift but surprising move, you were pulled right next to him, almost making you gasp. Looking up to your right, the side profile of the CEO glanced at you. You could see him eyeing you from the corner of his eye as he nodded, hoping to assure you of whatever was to come next. Your head turned to Shownu, who just kept a smug smile on his lips, eyeing you up and down the entire time. As if your outfit wasn't uncomfortable enough for you already, you now wished to rip it off your body and hide your figure in the biggest, longest, and thickest robe the world had ever seen.
With each step you took closer to the bad guy in the situation, your heart let you know just how bad of an idea it actually was. You had already had to let go of Wonwoo's hand, which you noticed only freed you hesitantly, keeping a tight grip on you until the very last second. There was one more step up separating you and the other men. While it did feel like a good and protective barrier, even though it would most definitely be the last thing keeping them away from you, you didn't get to appreciate it for as long as you would've liked to as a hand reached out for you. Looking up, you were once again met with brown eyes radiating anything but comfort. They were just as dark as Wonwoo's but yet so different. You had never been afraid of the man behind you, not even for a second. Intimated, of course, for obvious reasons, but his eyes always wrapped a cloak of comfort and protection around you while the two eyes now in front of you were clearly telling your body to run. Run and hide. Don't get closer. But you were very well aware that that wasn't an option at that moment.
Your shaky hand lifted to meet his palm, helping you up to the podium where you were now alone with the three men. Shownu's rough hands found their way to your hips, freezing your body even though they were much warmer than expected. He turned you around to face the room.
Now you understood where his confidence came from. Standing up there, you clearly felt more elevated than everyone else in the room. Better than anybody that even dared to enter this hole of a hell.
With a deep breath, you hoped to shake off the frightening feeling of the unknown as you glanced at Wonwoo, hoping to find some form of stability through him. He had hidden his hands in his pocket, carefully analyzing each man on the left and right, quickly regretting not coming up with a secret code between the two of you. He should've seen this coming. He knew the moment you'd step foot into that club, he was gonna lose the hold on you at some point, but he had prayed it wouldn't actually happen.
"Are you ready to listen to me now?" His voice was laced with slight annoyance. Shownu's hands left your hips, giving you time to breathe freely, but only for a second before you felt his hot breath against your ear.
He extended one finger in Wonwoo's direction. "Let me enjoy this here first."
You wanted to lock eyes with the man standing only a few feet away from you, but he didn't even dare. He had broken a promise he made to himself, and he couldn't even look at you. As annoyed as you wanted to be, the lips by the side of your head were too distracting, followed by the calloused fingertips running over your collarbone.
"Now onto you, beautiful," he whispered, making you close your eyes as you prayed to whoever was up there to just make it stop. "What's your name?"
"Y/N." You shot out. Of course, you could've lied. You should've lied. You noticed it quickly by Wonwoo's reaction, but in a fight-or-flight situation, lying wasn't going to be your strength.
He hummed into your ear, that almost sounded like a groan. His fingers danced around your shoulders, coming to a halt at the straps of your outfit. You wanted to call it a dress, but it was barely that. With one move, Shownu was suddenly behind you, his lips now close to your neck.
"You know, you're wearing quite the outfit here." His fingers hooked underneath your strap, to which your body immediately reacted by straightening and lifting your shoulders to stop him from what you thought would probably come next. "A bit too much for my liking." Without a warning and unfazed by your reaction, he pulled the right strap down.
"Son, I swear to-" Wonwoo's harsh voice hit your ear. You saw him take one step forward but he was quickly stopped by your sudden gasp echoing through the room once you felt cold metal meeting your lower back. Before anyone could react, you heard guns reloading and quickly realised what was being held against your skin. You closed your eyes.
"You swear to God what, Jeon? Huh? Be smart now." Shownu didn't show any sign of remorse. He wasn't going to be the one the back down from this.
Wonwoo raised his hands in defence, eyeing the other men who had raised their guns to point them at him. "I came here to talk to you. I don't wanna start anything."
"Who is she?" The older man nodded at you. "To you."
A sigh came from the CEO. "My partner." His comment made you look at him.
Shownu suddenly laughing out loud caught you off guard. "Yeah, right." His rough fingers graced your jaw and down your neck. "You really think I'd believe you bringing your own bitch here?" He chuckled again and took back the metal against your back as he rounded you to stand to your right again. "I mean, I must give it to you. You played the part of protective boyfriend pretty fucking well, but I know you better than that, Jeon. You can't fool me." And just when you thought you were out of the line of fire, he raised the gun again, close, yet not touching, to your temple. Your breathing cut off immediately. Something in your body stopped you from crying because God, you just wanted to start weeping.
"Business partner," Wonwoo quickly told him. "We work together."
Shownu raised one eyebrow as he chuckled. "No shit." He lowered the gun again, letting you let out the breath you were holding. "What kind of business?"
"Not the business you're thinking of. I told you I'm out of that." The CEO explained. "I bought a company."
"I know that. You don't think I watch the news, idiot?" His question made Wonwoo almost roll his eyes, but he knew to hold himself back.
"She used to work there, now she's COO."
A silence fell over the room. Glancing to the side, you found Shownu, looking straight ahead, his eyebrows slightly scrunched as he turned to glare at you, a smirk forming on his lips as soon as your eyes met.
"Yoon Y/N." Hearing your name fall from his lips made you gulp.
"Wow," he laughed and directed his attention back to Wonwoo. "You took Sungho's company and his little princess? You are cold-hearted, Jeon." After a look up and down your body, he licked his lips. "He used to keep her so hidden, and you're out here, showing her off like the price that she is. I taught you well." Listening to them speak as if you weren't even in the room with them made you want to accept the offer of squeezing out the eyes of every man in the room.
"You didn't teach me shit." Wonwoo gained back the confidence he usually holds himself up with once no gun in the room was pointed at him or you again. He knew very well what he could and could not do in each situation, having studied the rival group for years. When no snarky remark came in response, he continued with a sigh. "Now are you finally ready to listen to me?"
By now, you had brought the strap of your outfit back up on your shoulder, hiding your body behind your crossed arms once again, hoping and praying to escape from this place as quickly as possible.
Shownu let a small laugh tumble from his lips. "You must be pretty damn desperate to come to me."
He didn't need an answer. It seemed like everyone in the room already knew. No one in their right mind would even dare to set foot in this building if not desperately needed.
Yet, Wonwoo gave in with a nod.
-
"That Park fucker, I swear to God," Shownu leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees, his fingers running through his hair.
After shooing every single person out of the room, he got situated back onto the couch, Wonwoo taking a seat to his right at the corner, where another member of Shownu's group had been sitting merely a few minutes ago. He brought you along to sit down next to him after making sure you were somewhat doing alright. Good to know he still cared after pretending a little too well that he didn't.
"You know him?" The CEO wondered, saying out loud what went through your mind as well.
After sharing the entire story of the break-in, and the lawsuit, followed by the evidence brought in by Sehun and finishing off with Jihoon expertly recommending the two of you to pay Monsta X a visit, Shownu seemed to know a little more than you expected.
The rival nodded. "The last time you were here-"
"We went over this-"
"Those were his men."
Wonwoo stopped. He wasn't expecting that to come out. "What? His men?" Getting a nod in return. With a loud sigh, he stood up. "And you thought it was us?! When it was him all along?! What the fuck was the interrogation for then?!"
"Sit back down before I put a bullet through your head," Shownu told him. The low calmness in his voice a little sending a wave of fright through your body.
But Wonwoo didn't budge. "Why didn't you say anything?" Lowering his voice as well.
"You could be working with him for all I know. You really wanna fight about that now?!"
"Just admit that you were in the wrong."
"You better shut your fucking mouth. I'm the only one that can help you right now." Now both men were standing, facing each other with heavy breaths. It made Wonwoo chuckle as he shook his head.
"You're pathetic." Walking around the seating space as Shownu sat back down.
"So, what do you need from me?"
"The security camera videos," the CEO answered him. "Give me that, and we're out."
The rival straightened his back. "You want to have security camera footage to bring it to court and reveal what's going on in my club. I think the fuck not. You can see yourself out." He got up and was quick on his feet as he stepped down from the slightly elevated part of the room, walking towards the door.
You had finally had enough, and just as Wonwoo was about to open his mouth, you beat him to it. "They won't know it's from here." Shownu stopped in his tracks, only to turn around with a smug smirk plastered on his face.
He raised an eyebrow. "So she can actually talk." Commenting on your choice to stay quiet for the night. While he seemed amused by your outburst, Wonwoo was anything but that and quickly took in his position from before, covering half of your frame with his.
"Your watermark on the cameras isn't your fucking logo, and we won't tell them where we got the footage from."
The rival redirected his attention, leaving you in the back once again. "And you expect me to believe you?" The older man crossed his arms in front of his chest, his feet wider apart to show dominance in the situation.
Wonwoo copied him, only hiding his hands in his pockets. "You want to watch him go down just as much as we do."
Shownu sighed out loud in clear annoyance, running a hand through his hair. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend. You're taking that stupid saying a bit too seriously, Jeon."
"Trust me, you're anything but my friend."
-
You were advised to wait outside of the security man's room at the very back of the hallway, suggesting that what they would find on each of those videos was anything but pleasant. What you thought of the way Wonwoo was handling bringing you into this scene was still undecided by you. On one hand, you were definitely thankful you were able to stay clear of witnessing anything you'd prefer to keep unseen, but on the other hand, you were in this shithole just as much as Wonwoo and him treating you like some fragile dove was almost humiliating. Yes, of course, you weren't all that big and strong as him and whatnot, and yes, you were definitely more scared of whoever these men here were than you'd like to admit, but being a little damsel in distress would feel a bit different, you thought.
Question after question kept running through your head as you walked along the walls of the cold hallway. The stones on the side made everything just look more and more like a dungeon, sending yet another chill down your spine. This used to be a place Wonwoo would visit frequently... most of his friends along with him... How much of this timeline in Wonwoo's life did you actually want to know about? He seemed to have put it behind him, but that's when you remembered one of your dad's sayings.
"Your past will forever be a part of you."
You were too young to understand what he meant and to this very day, you couldn't recall what the context of the moment was. But it stuck with you. And now it made you think. Every single thing that had happened with Wonwoo in the past 48 hours... what were you getting yourself into? Did you want to just let yourself fall into the arms of another man when you swore to yourself you wouldn't be doing that exact thing? And what man were you even trusting here? Back in the day, he was just the stupid douchebag, a rich kid of a CEO, then he became your boss, and now... now he was a man you found comfort in. A man you could trust... you... you tried to trust. But... he had secrets. Secrets that only now are making an appearance and God only knows, if everything with Chanyeol had never happened, how would your relationship with Wonwoo even have turned out? Would you still think of him as the annoying bachelor turned CEO or would be able to see the caring man he was behind this facade? The man who despised his father's wrongs and tried to do everything right again. You saw the way he acted around his mother, and it almost made your knees give in. It was a gentleness you had never seen before. It was so foreign to you, but it made you oh that much more jealous... why did it make you jealous? You hated to admit it, and Binna would slap you and tell you 'I told you so' but in your head, you were finally able to admit it. Jealous of a soft man's touch. Jealous of someone caring for you. Worrying about you. No gang member would act like that, right? You almost chuckled at the thought of Shownu treating a woman with respect. That was not a man with the possibility of having respect for anyone but himself. But Wonwoo... no, he wasn't like that. Maybe he had changed. Potentially, he had been similar to Shownu in the past... The mere thought of it made you want to throw up... But no, he told you himself, that he had promised himself to become everything his father hadn't been growing up. But after all, this kind of life had still been a part of him at some point. The dark side. The side where men would spend hours in clubs just like the Monbebe, touching, pulling, and groping women. The image of seeing him or any other of his friends in either one of these rooms behind those doors or upstairs, enjoying a drink by the bar, eyeing women up and down as they passed them, touching them, kissing them, taking th-
The door the two men had disappeared behind a few minutes ago opened, revealing the man that had been occupying your brain for the entirety of the time you had spent alone. The smoke from your brain overworking finally stopped, letting you take in a deep breath you didn't remember holding in. Too many thoughts for one night...
"You're okay?" Where the first words coming from him as he noticed the clear distance you had out between yourself and the door.
You nodded with a shaky smile in return. Before you could say anything, Shownu made an appearance behind the CEO, closing the door before you could even try to get a look inside.
"Are you ready to leave my club now?" He snapped at Wonwoo. Clearly, the two hadn't magically just become best friends behind closed doors.
Wonwoo turned around with a nod. "You won't see me here again."
"I'm counting on it." He leaned to the side slightly, sending a smirk your way. "You on the other hand, I would love to invite you someday again."
You couldn't even react as the CEO placed a hand on the older man's bigger chest. Their cold eyes met. "Over my dead body."
"I can make that happen." Shownu smiled, smacking the hand off of him.
Without another word, Wonwoo turned to you, taking a few steps forward to step in line with you, his hand finding a comforting place on your lower back.
"Come on, let's go," he whispered. "Let's get out of here."
"You got everything?" You wondered, surprising yourself with the steadiness of your voice after keeping quiet for so long.
He nodded. "Everything we need."
Before you could run up the stairs again, the sound of the older man's voice echoed through the hallway. "You better take Park down, Jeon."
Wonwoo said goodbye with a raised hand in return, before both of you finally made your way out.
-
After getting out of the club, the CEO had given you his jacket once again before you found Hongseok already waiting for you. With you not knowing what to do or say, and Wonwoo unsure of what was going on in your head, the car ride was spent in complete silence. Neither one of you wanted to even dare interrupt the quietness you shared, even though it was anything but comfortable. Good for you, that you were too lost in thought to notice him moving around in his seat almost nervously. You didn't even realise that Hongseok was driving you back to Wonwoo's place. At least not until you felt a tap on your shoulder, making you turn to the side, only to find Wonwoo waiting by the open door. His extended hand was waiting for you to reach out for it to help you out. You quietly thanked the driver before letting the CEO guide you into the building, into the elevator, and right into his apartment.
It was only then he dared to speak. "You want something to drink?"
You snapped back into reality. "Hm?"
He turned back around as he was just about to enter the kitchen. "Do you want something to drink?"
You shook your head slightly, "No, no, I'm good. I had enough wine last night."
Wonwoo couldn't help but hold back a chuckle. "I meant like water... or tea?"
"Oh. Ehm... yeah, okay," you nodded this time. Remembering, you still had your shoes on, you followed him into the kitchen, taking a seat on one of the barstools. That man had way too many places to sit and eat for a one-bedroom apartment.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
Your head snapped up to look at him standing by the sink. You nodded. "Yeah..." Before bending down to release your feet from the confinement of those terrible high heels. Wonwoo watched your slight struggle, leaving the cups on the countertop as he rounded the kitchen island to bend down in front of you. You let your hands drop, already knowing where this was going. Your eyes analysed his fingers playing with the clasp on the leather strap.
"You know, it's okay if... you're a bit... unsure," he softly spoke, not losing focus on his task.
"Unsure?" You wondered.
"Does scarred sound better?" He looked up. The sight almost made you gasp. Just like all the other times when you had been in similar situations. Him... on his knees... in front of you... looking up at you with those dark eyes that looked so cold yet made you feel so warm.
You shook your head. "I'm not scared."
"Okay," he simply answered before letting both of your shoes fall to the floor. A soft moan of freedom tumbled from your lips.
"Thanks."
His fingers running up your feet slightly didn't go unnoticed by you, even though you think it should've gone by the way Wonwoo just simply stood back up and got back to making you your cup of tea.
"I'm not scared," you repeated, knowing that you mostly said it, trying to reassure yourself of the truth of the statement. "Maybe a little weirded out... but not scared."
He nodded again. "I understand. And I get it."
An important question was tickling the top of your tongue. One that you had been asking yourself ever since he disappeared with Shownu, leaving you alone with your thoughts in the hallway. They gave you too much time to think and now you were starting the question too many things you shouldn't even be thinking about. But you couldn't help it. You had to know.
"How-" As soon as the first word fell from your lips, you stopped yourself. Wonwoo's head shot in your direction, leaving the water to boil in the back. Seeing his eyes trained on you just made you forget about every worry you had before. This man couldn't possibly...
"Ask," he assured you, leaning on the counter as he watched you debate with yourself. He wanted you to ask. He almost needed you to.
You stuttered. "I... I don't know if I want to know." Your voice was suddenly quieter than before as you looked down at your hands that had started a thumb war.
"You deserve to know," he simply let you know.
"But..." you sighed out loud, almost in annoyance. Who were you annoyed at though? "Jesus... I just." You tried collecting your thoughts as well as you possibly could, but there was way too much going on and your brain didn't have nearly the capacity you needed it to have at that very moment. "I don't know what to think. I... It's just weird."
"I understand that." He continued to let you know, nodding along with you as his gentle voice reached you.
With a desperate sigh, you let your elbows rest on top of the counter, bringing your hands up to cover your face. You had to. "How involved were you in the Monbebe?"
He hummed, pushing himself off to stand straight again. "I wasn't one of those men sitting, drinking and pulling women down into their lap, if that's what you're thinking."
You nodded shyly, whispering almost to yourself. "That is what I was thinking..."
"I hate that club just as much as you do now," he sent you an almost sympathetic smile before turning back again to finish the tea. You noticed two cups next to each other.
"I don't know if that's possible," you chuckled, brushing over your arms that were still covered by his jacket.
He copied you. "You're right. You probably hate it just a little bit more than me, but trust me," he placed the cup for you right under your nose, "I didn't enjoy even a second I had to spend in there. Not back then, not today."
You nodded. Still hesitant about asking more questions, Wonwoo noticed your nervous frame, deciding to continue to avoid another uncomfortable silence washing over the two of you.
"Shownu's grandfather and mine started it all." The beginning of his story made you look up, watching him set down his own mug. "God knows what exactly happened between them but it all started with them. Then, our fathers took over, and the rivalry just continued. It started as a normal business rivalry, you know, just... stupid shit and jealousy over the success of the other one. But then..." He took a deep breath. "My father made some really stupid decisions, and it brought him to the darker side of that business. And before he knew it, Shownu's father lured him into helping him and... it all took a very bad turn from then on. The whole gang shit- I... it's stupid. But if you're born into it, you're born into it. There's not much you can do. So I had I was pretty much forced into continuing whatever my father had started, but... I really wanted to make it right more so. Shownu obviously had his doubts about that, and it wasn't easy to convince him, but somehow, don't ask how, I managed to do so."
"You," you interrupted him, "You don't have to tell me all of this."
"But you deserve to know," he answered. "I shouldn't have brought you there. It was a stupid idea on my side, and now you have to carry that with you for the rest of-"
"Hey," you stopped him gently. "It was my choice to go with you. I could've said no."
"Still," he shook your comment off.
"No." You didn't even let him continue. "We had to go through that and... now we did." You shared a moment of silence, looking into his eyes before opening your mouth again. "But... I gotta be honest... I don't know how much I want to know... about that part of... your past."
Wonwoo sighed, his gaze on the mug on the countertop. "I told you I want to be honest with you, and you deserve to know everything-"
"But I also told you that I trust you," you quickly added before he could take his thoughts much further, making him look up at you. "And I meant that." You shook your head. "I don't have to know everything about that... Jesus, I don't even want to, honestly. Not now, at least." Adding the last statement a bit quieter.
With a deep breath, Wonwoo decided to speak up after watching to stir your tea with the spoon he gave you. He thought carefully about each word he let out. "I think you might see me a bit differently after... what happened that last time there."
"The bloodbath?" You wondered, remembering the comments Shownu and him made within the first seconds of meeting him.
Wonwoo just nodded, taking a big gulp from his drink.
"I don't care," your simple answer surprised him as his eyes fell back on you again. "Don't tell me." You shrugged, "In Jihoon's office, I... I wanted you to tell me what the hell was going on because I was just... confused and... I guess scared. But now..." Another sigh fell from your lips, slightly shakier than before. "I just don't think I want to know." Because you were scared. You might not verbally admit it, but God... you didn't even want to imagine what could've happened back then.
"Okay," Wonwoo understood you. He couldn't have been more thankful to leave that story to tell at some point in the future. "Not today. Another time."
"Another time," you agreed with him, finally bringing up the now lukewarm mug to your lips, letting it trickle down your throat, sending a wash of comfort through your body.
The two of you started talking about the next steps including, getting the videos to Jihoon, him bringing every piece of evidence to the court, and what could further happen. Possible delays, future court dates, and how to deal with the situation at work. It almost felt a little too nice. Too... domestic. You seating on one of the barstools, him in the kitchen, moving around as he got himself a glass of water, getting you one as well even without asking you. All while talking about work.
Before the scene could feel too good for your own good, you snapped back.
"Okay," you sighed, moving around with your hands awkwardly, "I should... probably go home now." After bending down to snatch your shoes into your hands, you made your way over to the door.
Wonwoo straightened his back from his leaning position over the counter. "Yeah, sure," he followed you to the entrance, his right hand suspiciously in the pocket of his pants.
You turned around to say one last thing when the close proximity of his chest surprised you, making you forget what you were about to say as you just stared up into his eyes. He smirked at you before you felt his hand on your free one again, placing something in your palm before taking a small step back to let you look down. That damn key again.
"Won-" you started with a heavy breath, but the show of his palms stopped you.
"You're not taking a cab or public transport. Not in this outfit."
His comment made you look down. The 'dress'... right... But you also were still wearing his jacket, which you decided to shrug off to give back to him, already deciding that fighting about the car wasn't going to get you anywhere. His hands on your shoulders stopped your movements.
"You're also keeping the jacket on."
You sighed, "You're really not gonna let me make any decisions, huh?"
His gentle smile sent somewhat of a tingle to your heart, making you almost grin too. "Not after today, no." It wasn't a one-time thing and didn't have much to do with the events of that day- both of you knew that, neither one of you decided to comment on it.
His voice had suddenly become much lower, or maybe it had always been that low, but the closeness of his body let you register it more.
Understandingly, you nodded along. "Today was... long."
"And weird," he finished your thought, his gaze still down at you while you stood in front of him, feeling smaller than usual. In just a skimpy dress, some almost see-through tights, and his suit jacket, along with your shoes in one hand and his car keys in the other, you could've jumped straight out of the depths of his imagination.
"Yeah," you breathed out. He had definitely come closer. He wasn't THAT close before. Right?... Right?! The grip on your shoes tightened as your heartbeat surprised you by speeding up. God...
You should've already been out the door. Why on earth were you still standing in his apartment, barely ready to actually walk out. Your body knew why. Your heart knew why. But your brain decided to yet decline what was going on. Your breathing and stuttering ratted you out though.
You looked around frantically, running a hand through your hair as you suddenly created a bigger space between the two of you, not noticing the hand Wonwoo just dropped back to be by his side.
"I... I'm gonna go." Without waiting for another remark from his side, you turned around. You didn't get far though.
"Y/N," his voice struck you, immediately making you turn back to him. Your face screamed hope but dropped quickly as he continued. "I'm sorry." Wait. No. No no no. That wasn't supposed to happen. That's not what usually followed the call out of a name.
You scrunched your eyebrows, all hope and desperation gone, now replaced by pure confusion. "For what?"
With two big steps, he caught up with you, not wasting another second as he reached out, placed his hand on your neck and pulled you in, his lips meeting yours instantly. The sudden movement made you jolt in surprise, your full hands coming up to his chest to steady yourself.
You quickly fell into a matching rhythm, your lips moving against each other like butter. His fingers tightened on your neck, truly pulling you in as closely as he possibly could, getting a soft moan of you return. Kissing you wasn't enough, this man wanted to breathe you in. His free hand came up to get a hold of the shoes you were still holding onto. You let go, giving him the freedom to let them drop to the floor behind him. As soon as you could feel his lips distancing from yours, a whine dared to escape from you. He kept your noses close enough to touch.
"Stay," he whispered, his hot breath tickling your lips. Wonwoo didn't give you time to respond, smashing his lips back on yours. You continued to enjoy this moment, just moving along with him, breathing heavily as you felt his left hand come to your hips, travelling to your lower back. You had to let go.
"Wonwoo-"
"Please." He didn't let you finish. Pleading against your lips as you were close to distancing yourself from him. You let your eyes meet. Your eyebrows raised, scrunched in desperation, his just as usual low and unsaying of any of his emotions. But you could hear it in his voice. The slight shake. He wanted this. He needed this. Just as much as you did. Your breaths were already becoming one, your mouths begging to touch.
Fuck it.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him down onto you. He let go of your neck, both of his hands immediately working on getting rid of the jacket that was still covering your body. And you let him. He undressed you hastily, throwing the anorak somewhere onto the floor - neither of you could care less. Before you could intertwine your hands behind his neck again, his hand found yours, taking back the key, only to make it join the jacket. A chuckle left your lips at his eagerness. Everything happened while your lips were still dancing with each other. Not fighting. Not moving. Dancing, as they fit like they were made for each other. You didn't want it to stop, convinced that it would have the same effect as holding your breath forever.
Wonwoo's hands travelled lower until they reached your ass and he crouched down before whispering into your mouth, "Jump." Letting you hop into his arms, his hands firmly on your behind to steady you. Your legs wrapped tightly around his hips, hoping to be as close to him as you possibly could. You let your fingers start to play with the hair on the back of his neck, tugging slightly, making him chuckle as he leaned back.
"Careful," he whispered before lowering you down onto his bed, his much wider frame covering yours, engulfing you in comfort as he just hovered above you.
Wonwoo didn't give you enough time to enjoy his lips on yours with the softness of his bed underneath before he moved onto your neck. His mouth started following your jawline, down to the side of your neck while your hands found a good place on his shoulders. You moaned out loud, not even caring about holding it back.
"We've been here once before, right?" His voice vibrated on your skin. He travelled back up to kiss your cheek, keeping his face at a distance to look you in the eyes as his fingers petted some strands of hairs out of your face. "But I'm planning on finishing it this time. Okay?"
In desperation, you nodded, hoping to get further and get his body back fully onto yours. "Please do," you whined, his hands exploring your still-covered body.
Wonwoo smirked down at you, "I got you, baby," giving you a quick peck, which you had hoped would turn into a continuation of before, but were let down when he let go again. "Let's get you out of this first." Rubbing the material of your dress. He stood back up on his two feet, getting a hold of your hand to pull you up with him. Before you had enough time to gaze at his face, taking in every inch of his perfectly sculpted facial structure, he turned you around softly. His lips immediately went back to his neck as his fingers looked for the zip he had closed up a few hours ago, getting a soft moan from you in return.
"You look so beautiful in this," he whispered against your skin, sending a chill down your spine. "But you have no idea how fucking hard it was to keep my hands off you the entire evening." With each word he spoke, the butterflies in your stomach grew wilder and wilder. You just wanted him to never stop.
Once the zip was all the way down, he let the fabric drop down your arms, and you let him. Why should you stop at this moment? As soon as the dress fell to the floor, you stepped out of it and were turned back to face Wonwoo. His hand came up to cradle your face.
"Do you remember how I said I wanted to do this right?" You only trusted yourself to nod, scared of what sound might leave your mouth if you dared to speak. He grinned, "Good." And his lips were back on yours. Swiftly, he also got rid of your bra before his hands went down on the side of your thighs, pulling you in and making you wrap your legs around him once again. He took the opportunity to kneel down onto the bed, getting both of you onto the mattress and making sure your head met a pillow. Just like before, his lips left yours yet again to trace a line down your neck, only now also following the natural line of your collarbone before going further down and down. He didn't stop until he reached your breasts, kissing the right side first, getting closer and closer to your nipple, waiting for your moans to get higher. That's when you started to feel his tongue just on the outline of your nipple, going around it in circles, making you lift your body up automatically. His grip on your hips tightened, pushing you down to lay you flat, making you unable to move, no matter how much your body was begging for friction.
Wonwoo moved onto your left side, his mouth leaving wet kisses all over your tits as his tongue tickled your skin. You had let your hands move on their own. They found Wonwoo's grasp as they tried to loosen his grasp to give you some more freedom to move around. No chance. That man wasn't gonna let go of you any time soon.
"Wonwoo," your breathy voice made him come up to your lips again, teasing you by hovering above you, only coming close enough that your lips could potentially touch if you just moved up less than an inch. He hummed, giving you the notice to continue talking. Easier said than done when he started to place kisses all over your face again until he reached your neck.
"Please," you continued to beg for more. He couldn't help but chuckle slightly.
"Why the rush, gorgeous?" If only he knew what all of those nicknames were doing to you. Well, he was about to find out.
Not giving you time to respond, he moved himself down your body, making sure to resume his trail of kisses down your entire body. As if it was his goal to have touched every bit of your skin with his lips - if only you knew that was his exact goal. Maybe not for just tonight, but as a life goal.
His skilled finger quickly made their way into the seam of your tights, pulling them down. Slowly. Gently. Painfully.
You groaned.
"Let me take my time with you," he whispered. You shuffled yourself up, your elbows steadying you as you looked down at him now pulling off the thin piece of clothing and throwing it onto the floor.
Your heavy breathing didn't stop. "You're teasing." It wasn't a question or a cry of desperation. Maybe just a bit... but it was also a simple fact.
Wonwoo smirked proudly, getting closer to you again, stopping right in front of your face. "Good." He gave you a quick peck. "Now you know what it's like having to stand next to you every goddamn day and not be able to touch you."
"Who says you can't?" Where the sudden boost in confidence came from, was a question to everyone involved.
His low chuckle sent a warm rush right down where you were begging for him the most. "Well, I am a gentleman after all." He got slightly closer, his breath now tickling your lips, continuing his tease. You were too focused on his mouth just barely touching yours, not noticing the hand he had let travel lower, diving right into your underwear. The tip of his finger grazed your clit, getting a quick shutter and deep moan in return. To silence you, Wonwoo was quick to break the tension, covering your mouth with his once again, his tongue brushing over your lips immediately too.
As if his kisses alone didn't already make you moan enough, his fingers that had started moving in circles on your clit made it hard for you to even concentrate on moving your lips along with his.
He pushed your body down again to lay flat on the mattress before diverting his attention back onto your skin. His free hand had gotten rid of your panties swiftly, giving him more freedom to pleasure you with his fingers alone.
God... his fucking fingers... so skillfully moving over your bundle of nerves before slowly daring to go even just a bit lower. You felt him smile against your neck as soon as he came in contact with the wetness of your hole already waiting for him. His finger tickled your entrance for a quick second before diving in, making you bite your lip, not letting the high-pitched moan escape fully. It was just that Wonwoo was having none of that.
Within a split of a second, his was right in front of you again, his fingers that had just been inside of you, now on your chin as his thumb pulled your lower lip free from your teeth. He lowered himself down to whisper into your ear.
"Don't you dare even try holding back a moan tonight."
With no warning, he slowly pushed his two fingers, still covered in your wetness up to your mouth. You opened up wide enough for them to fit, already knowing what he wanted.
"Let me hear you, beautiful," he encouraged you, kissing the side of your neck to get a reaction from you as you moaned on his fingers, licking them clean of your taste. Only a second later, he pulled them out again, drawing a line down your torso until he reached your tits, engulfing one in his grip as his upper body disappeared from your sight again.
It was only when you started to feel his mouth on your upper thighs that you knew where he was going. His free hand was already tapping your legs to open up, giving him access to your inner thigh. Even though this wasn't the first time you had Wonwoo in this position, it felt just like it did back then. Perfectly intoxicating. You couldn't get enough of his touch, his lips, or... just him.
Wonwoo was everything you told yourself to never fall for ever again. But here you were, underneath the man in question, letting your body react freely against his touch.
Even though you expected it, you couldn't help the loud moan to fall from your lips as soon as his mouth came into contact with your core. His tongue didn't waste a moment, immediately giving your clit all of the attention. He started circling it before using his entire mouth to suck, getting a follow-up of multiple heavy moans from you in return. Your fingers had started holding onto his hair desperately, almost pulling too hard, yet Wonwoo didn't budge. With one hand, he made sure to keep your hips as still as possible while his other one had joined his mouth by your pussy, his fingers teasing your entrance yet again. His lips occupied with sucking your soul out of your clit, and his fingers pushing inside of you made you jolt your hips up, only to get pushed down harshly again, not even a second later.
As much as you would've wanted to form words, letting him know just how good he was making you feel, you couldn't. No understandable word from the dictionary was able to form in your mouth. You were communicating in moans, groans and heavy breathing. And Wonwoo understood every single loud you were making. He was able to read you like his favourite book, remember you like his favourite lyrics and play you like an instrument he had been playing forever. Everything just fit... too perfectly.
The squelching sounds of his fingers moving in and out of you filled the room, entertaining the two of you like a song in the background. Mixed with your moans, Wonwoo's cock was already reacting to it. From the moment he had thrown you onto the bed, to be completely honest, if not as soon as he had seen you in that pathetic excuse of a dress.
He couldn't hide a smirk once he felt your walls starting to tighten around his fingers, only letting him know to keep on going. He had switched to tickling your clit with his tongue again, the tip of it going up and down, circling the bud before pressing flat against it. Anything to make you come undone right under his touch - his biggest accomplishment. The harsh tugging on his hair got a deep groan from him, vibrating against your pussy, sending the last wave of pleasure you needed to finally release on his fingers with a loud moan. You fought against his grip, lifting your hips into his mouth as your orgasm hit you. It didn't stop him from continuing, still moving his fingers, only slightly slower now, making sure that his lips were also gently sucking on your clit, focusing more on kissing it, making you jolt with each touch. You whined out loud, your legs tightening around his head. This was heaven. No need to question it. This must be it. No other possibilities.
"Fuck," your uneven breathing filled the room, your fingers still tangled in his hair as he kept his head down, working you through your high as you tried to push him back. "Wonwoo-" you cried out. "Please- God..."
With a smug grin on his lips, he raised his head, looking up at you still trying to catch your breath.
"You call that teasing?"
You had to chuckle, covering your face with one hand.
Wonwoo pushed himself up, coming back to face you, taking your hand in his to look you in the eyes.
"You did so well for me," he whispered against your lips. You didn't know how to react, so you just pulled him in closer by his collar. A kiss was answer enough. That's when you noticed something.
You pulled back. "How come you're still in your clothes while I'm naked underneath you?"
He smiled. "Well, ladies' first." His comment made your eyes roll. He chuckled. "But I'd be happy to change that." Diving back to continue kissing you with just as much passion as he did when he pulled you in back by the entrance door.
Your fingers got to work on the buttons of his dress shirt while he was occupied with getting his pants open and off. You got rid of his shirt, letting it drop onto the floor by your side. To get out of his pants, Wonwoo sat back, letting his underwear go as well. Before you went further, you let your eyes travel over his torso, taking in every single piece of art decorating his skin. His shoulder was covered in black and grey ink, going down his right arm, hugging his biceps. Oh, to run you tongue over each piece… You snapped back and quickly joined him, hopping onto his lap, before he even had the time to get on top of you again. You had been waiting way too long for this. Way longer than you'd like to admit.
He made sure to keep his hands on your ass, placing you comfortably on his lap, his erection high, slapped against his abdomen. You didn't need to look down to know how big he was. You knew. You remembered. Hell, you even dreamt of it after the times he had already fucked you. Don't tell Binna that.
With his lips back on yours, much more eager than before, you let one hand rest on his chest while the other had gone down, swiping over your still glistening cunt, wetting your palm before you grasped his cock. An immediate moan came from Wonwoo, his breath heavy in your mouth, groaning against each other as you felt him nudge his hips into your touch. You kept your hand on the upper half of his dick, your thumb brushing over the top, spreading the pre-cum all over the burning red tip. The chill going through his body didn't go unnoticed by you, making you smirk against his lips as his fingers dug deeper into your ass, making you throw your head back in pleasure. Your hand had started running up and down his entire erection, making him hide his face in your neck as he kissed it again, sucking harshly on one specific spot he remembered you reacting to the hardest. As if it was a competition, your hand movements became harder and sloppier while his kisses became much harsher. Both of you had forgotten about moaning, turning to groaning as it relieved much more of the pleasure.
Without a warning, Wonwoo slapped your hand away and lowered you closer to the mattress, his arm on your lower back to hold you up. His free hand grabbed the base of his cock, directing it towards your entrance as you held yourself up with your elbows. He teased you by circling your hole with the tip of his dick, just waiting to fill you up.
You threw your head back in desperation. "GOD, Wonwoo just put your cock inside of me, please." With a low chuckle, he followed your plead. You couldn't hold yourself up and let your back hit the mattress as both of his hands had found their way to your hips, holding onto them as he backed out and went straight in again. Just like with his fingers - painfully slow. The roughness of each vein that decorated his erection grazed your walls, only intensifying each thrust.
"Fuck," you heard him curse under his breath as he lowered his body, his mouth back on your right breast as his right hand played with your left nipple.
You moaned out loud. "Fuck, Wonwoo," trying to move your hips along with his rhythm.
He came back up, his hand now on your neck as he groaned right into your ear. "Jesus, you feel so good." His thumb was brushing against your cheek.
"Won-" your moan was interrupted by an uncontrollable whine you had to let out as he was suddenly going deeper, making you realise he hadn't put his full length inside of you up until you. "Please," you stuttered with heavy breaths, "Please make me come."
His hand left your neck, immediately going down to your clit, after dipping into your wetness, putting pressure on your little bundle of nerves.
You nudged your hips up, "FUck, yes." Crying out loud as he kissed your jawline. Listening to his moans so close to your ear, feeling his thrusts becoming more and more irregular, almost sloppy, made you all that more aroused, knowing how close he must be getting.
With another hit at your G-spot, you almost couldn't hold back anymore.
"Wonwoo, I'm gonna cum," you whined, getting his attention as he kissed you deeply.
"Come on, baby. I'm close too. Come on. Just like that," he encouraged you, keeping his rhythm as steady as he possibly could, which wasn't much. "Good girl." Sending a heavy rush of arousal right to your pussy.
With his fingers right on your clit, his breathing against your ear and just feeling his chest move against you, his cock hitting all the right places inside of you, you didn't dare to hold back, letting go right as it hit you. A loud cry tumbled from your lips, your head digging into the blanket and mattress underneath you. The tightness of your walls almost pushing his cock out of you as the pleasure rushed through your body.
Wonwoo pushed himself up, and with three last hard thrusts into you, you felt him fill you up just as you would have begged him to. The warmth of his seamen made another moan come from you. Your hands were quickly trying to find his that were once again on your hips - seemed like they had found their favourite place.
His movements had slowed down, now making sure to work you through your uneven breathing as you came down from your second orgasm.
For a good few minutes, he continued to rock the both of you back and forth comfortably, lowering himself down to cover your frame with his wide shoulders, kissing you deeply without having to ask him to. His fingers tangled in your hair to make sure he'd pull you in as close as possible while his hips stopped moving, only one last time as he pulled out, leaving you cold and empty on the bed.
With one last kiss on your cheek, and a quick whisper of, "Stay here," he disappeared into the bathroom. You laid still. You put your right hand right under your boobs, still trying to even out your breathing.
That's what's supposed to happen when someone calls your name out in such desperation.

The day with the princess was a disaster. She was nice, yes. A little too nice for Mingyu's liking. His crown and status was clearly all she cared about.
However, his mother didn't stop there. The next day, two more girls came by. Both at different times. They were too bland. Too… perfectly princessy for him. So, the day after that, three more princesses came.
"Well?" His mother asked him, as the third girl left.
Mingyu rolled his eyes, putting his phone down. He had been reading the news. Some boring article about rumors of him trying to find a wife. But he was still the most eligible bachelor in Pledis.
"No mother, they were boring."
His mother sighed "Prince Kim Mingyu, if you keep turning girls down like this, we'll run out. They were pretty, right?"
He shrugged, "Sure, I guess. But what else? If I’m to marry someone I want them to be interesting, to have conversations with me, worthy of my time. Just… interesting at all."
"Mingyu, please. You haven't even given them a fair chance."
Mingyu hung his head back dramatically "They don't care at all. All they care about is that I'm a crown prince."
“Still darling, they’re good people. They could offer a lot for our country.”
He shook his head and got up off the couch he had been sitting on.
“Where are you going?” his mother asked, confused.
“I need some air. I’m going for a ride.”
Tumblr media
Mingyu rode his horse all the way to the edge of the forest. He wasn't allowed to go in, get to the deep part of the forest and you'd get lost. It had happened to the best. Prince Soonyoung had joked about it once, went in a little, laughing loudly as prince Mingyu was in a slight panic, before coming out again. It hadn't nearly been as funny as Soonyoung had thought it was.
But there had always been something about the mysterious forest that attracted Mingyu. And, sure enough, whenever he'd go on a ride, he'd end up at the edge of the forest.
But it was getting dark, and therefore time to head home. He turned his horse around and saw something in the distance. It startled his horse, making it wild, turning around and running into the forest.
Mingyu couldn't stop him, whatever he tried, the horse kept going. Mingyu panicked more and more as the forest kept getting thicker. Trying to get his horse to turn around and go back.
There was a low hanging tree branch Mingyu didn't see. He bumped his head against it and everything went black.
Tumblr media
Slowly Mingyu started coming back to consciousness. It was strange, his head hurt but not as badly as it should have, considering what happened. He heard someone gasp, probably noticing he was waking up, and footsteps swiftly walking away from him.
He forced his eyes open. But too late, you had gone.
It was dark, of course, and the forest was thicker than ever. Fear shot through his body. Was he in the deep part of the forest? What if he couldn’t get out?
He looked around. His horse, where was his horse? He let out a relieved sigh when he saw his horse grazing beside a tree it was tied to. How did it get there?
As he turned his head back, ready to get up, he saw a head disappear behind a tree close by.
“Who are you?” Mingyu asked loudly, “I’ve already seen you. Show yourself.”
You slowly walked out from behind the tree. He was shocked. A girl?
You introduced yourself quietly.
“Where am I?” Mingyu asked.
You shrugged “The forest.”
He rolled his eyes “I noticed, yes. How did I get here?”
“Oh, I saw your horse and you were there too.”
Only now Mingyu noticed the fabric tied around his arm, blood seeping through it. When he looked at you again he could see a part of your shirt was ripped.
He held up his arm “Did you do this?”
“Yes. You were hurt, so I took care of it.”
Mingyu sighed, “Alright, what do you want for it?” He had left his checkbook at home but he could always come back later.
To his surprise, however, you frowned “What? Why would I want anything for it?”
He snorted, “Everyone always wants something in return for being ‘nice’,” he explained, like it was the most obvious thing in the world, “It’s never free. So what do you want?”
You straightened your back. “Real kindness has no price.”
“So… You’re telling me you want nothing?”
You nodded “Yes. And I’m sorry you grew up without kindness.”
He frowned, before chuckling a little "What makes you think I grew up without kindness?"
"If you think kindness comes with a price, you've never experienced real kindness."
"I have though."
"Fine. You have. Just now." You crossed your arms awkwardly.
Mingyu stared at you, making you quite uncomfortable.
"So what's your name, anyway?" You asked him, looking at the ground.
He frowned "You don't know who I am?"
You raised an eyebrow as you sat down across from him, legs pulled up to your chest "Should I?"
It seemed you said something he completely couldn't understand, but then he straightened his posture "I'm… uh, Mingyu."
"Nice to meet you, Uh Mingyu." You laughed.
"Just Mingyu is fine." He smiled.
You looked at each other, both smiling.
"Are you lost?" Mingyu asked you.
You shook your head, frowning with a smile, "Are you?"
He didn't seem to like that, "Yes. Remember how I was unconscious when you found me? Of course I'm lost."
You chuckled "Well, you probably come from the castle town, right? That's not difficult to find from here."
You noticed that made his eyes light up with relief.
"Why were you sleeping on your horse anyway?"
He frowned, kind of annoyed looking "I wasn't sleeping. Why would I be sleeping?"
You let out a chuckle again "I thought it was a little strange, yes."
He shook his head, which was clearly painful.
"What happened then? Because you were sleeping when I found you."
"I wasn't sleeping. I was unconscious."
"Oh."
He rolled his eyes, "I hit my head against a branch, because my horse went crazy."
You shuffled closer to him, pointing to the tree with his horse. "Your horse is now over there."
He titled his head back a little as an automatic response to you getting closer, "I saw that… yes…"
You smiled a kind smile.
"Do… Do you live here?" Mingyu asked.
You nodded "Not right here of course, a little bit that way."
You pointed in the opposite direction of his horse. Deeper into the forest.
Mingyu frowned "I didn't know there were people living in the forest…" it was fairly clear he didn't say that to you, it was more like thinking out loud.
"I think it's just me and my family. And the swans, of course." You shrugged.
Mingyu tilted his head "Swans?" This deep into the forest? Though, to be honest, Mingyu wasn't sure where he was.
You nodded, "Yes, we call the lake they live in 'Swan lake' because there are so many. Well, I call it that. I don’t think anyone else cares."
Mingyu didn't say anything, just looked at you. His gaze clearly made you a little nervous.
"I could show you… if you want?"
That surprised him, “What?”
“Swan lake.” you insisted, “It’s not far from here. Unless you’re still hurting too much to go anywhere.”
Mingyu stood up proudly, “Of course I’m not too hurt.” You had already seen him knocked out, at his weakest. He was not going to let you think he was weak. Even though his arm did hurt and his mind was clearly still foggy. “Let’s go see your Swan lake.”
