Hi, sorry for bothering you. Could you explain the "grippy socks" phenomenon thing? I have tried looking it up but the only thing I found were actual socks so I think I'm missing some context.
It's an online term that refers to the type of socks they give you in psychiatric hospitals (with the rubbery bottoms to prevent slipping on the hard floors). This goes over the origin of this as a meme:
But with that has come plenty of sanist memes as the socks are a visual representation of people who have been in psychiatric facilities, and will use "grippy socks" and terms like "crazy" interchangeably. People also try to make it cute sounding by calling a stay at a psych ward a "grippy sock vacation", belittling what the experience is actually like for a lot of people. The meme has also been used to restate the old, misogynistic "joke" that "crazy girls are better at sex" with the new saying "grippy socks, grippy box" (eww). It's also worth noting that a lot of people using this phrase in memes haven't actually been to a psych ward themselves, they use it to describe their mental state like "I'm afraid to be too honest with my therapist, I'm afraid they'll put me in grippy sock jail". Which is a little frustrating as someone who has had psych ward stays, it's weird to see people use it to describe themselves when they haven't actually had to go.

once again thinking about how fucked up it is that special ed used me and other disabled children as unpaid, coerced labor. i worked enough to be making $100 a week. i was "paid" in fake money redeemable only at the school cafeteria, which i worked at, and was forced to do things that distressed me. they gave us $1 a week, if they remembered to give it to us at all.
this was while i would sometimes go the entire day without eating because i didn't have the money to buy food and the free food was not sensory safe. we also worked outside the community - grocery stores, warehouses, shoe stores security tagging items. all under the guise of job skill development, we did $100 of labor a week without ever getting paid. and we were demeaned while we did it. and we were just teens.
so no, i don't want to hear about how special education is good. not with the way me and my peers were treated and taken advantage of. death to institutionalization, in all forms.

Begging begging begging leftists... "leftists" to stop using ableism to attack fascists and people who are threats to humanity and the Earth
White supremacist #57 is not "smooth brained" or "psychotic" or "a sociopath" he is anti-human, violent, and a fascist
Stop making jokes about old politicians having strokes or having cancer or catching x y or z life-long illness because disability is not a punishment, it is a morally neutral state of being
Stop and actually think about disabled people for once. We exist. And we're not in greater leftist circles because nondisabled people never include us, never think about us, never wonder what a perfect world would be like with us in it unless they're also disabled

Actually lol I think disabled people who've been abused/neglected by doctors/nurses should be allowed to be as pissed as they want about it and people who berate them for not understanding how hard being a doctor/nurse is or some such should literally shut the hell up. There is nothing immoral about being angry, especially about shit like this and if you think disabled people don't understand how hard capitalist systems can wear you down, well, you're not just mistaken but ignorant as fuck.

i hope you guys know defending disabled people's right to exist in public also involves defending disabled people's right to exist in public in ways that others might perceive as annoying, unpleasant, uncomfortable, and inconvenient at times. a blatant example is the "slow walker" thing. someone with tourette's syndrome who has issues with verbally ticcing is likely going to have trouble staying quiet in a public space where they're expected to be. autistic children (and some adults) getting triggered into meltdowns due to an overstimulating environment. people with hearing problems having their phone on speaker while on a phone call. a wheelchair user taking up part of the road/sidewalk/aisle. people with autism, adhd, hearing problems, or other things that affect volume control having loud conversations. someone audibly talking to themselves, which can be attributed to many things. motor tics. dyskinesia. ataxia. pseudobalbar effect. the list goes on. some of thus may even be potentially triggering for your own issues if you're someone who's also mentally and/or physically disabled, but if you're well aware of how you can't help your response to it, you should be equally aware of how others can't help themselves either. people who aren't able to be disabled quietly and conveniently don't deserve to be punished or met with anger (or turned into a spectacle) for not deciding to shut themselves away.

please please please don’t forget to include intellectual disability, psychosis / schizospec disorders, level 2-3 autistics, folks w dissociative disorders, and others with “severe mental illness” from ur conversations about mad liberation.
these are some of the most vulnerable and disenfranchised mad people, and we need to give them a voice.
these are the places where liberation is needed the most

The trans campaigner, who did not wish to be named, told PinkNews that organisers of the ‘Let Women Speak’ event on Sunday (14 May) were “very keen” to have him speak after he posed as an anti-trans detransitioner. Instead, his intention was to get onto Parker’s ‘gender-critical’ livestream to share support for trans rights. He also wanted to send a message to genuine detransitioners to let them know they are “welcome” in the LGBTQ+ community. [...] During his speech, the speaker said he kept things specifically vague so that he could remain on mic for as long as possible to help spread the message of trans solidarity. But, after he said he attempted to “dismantle the mic”, Keen-Minshull, along with several of her supporters, forced him away from the stand. “The group crushed my hands, and arms, and left me with small cuts from the force they went in on me,” the speaker explained. “I have EDS and Nail Pattela Syndrome, hence the crutch, and have my joints pop out a lot when placed under force. My right hand is still in a lot of pain and I haven’t been able to use it that much after the incident. “But I had already gambled and knew that I would most likely get hurt trying to dismantle the mic.” Following the speech, he said he felt it important to note that, despite what anti-LGBTQ+ pundits may suggest, detransitioners are welcome in the community. “With detransitioners often being hit by fear-mongering, lies and hate … I needed to really hammer home that they are, in fact, welcome. “We want to support them, but falling into a cult such as the TERF movement is a sure fire way to really fall into a pit of self-hatred and loathing,” he said.
So much love for this guy. Also I find it so funny how the TERFs are like "we feel so much sympathy for this small narcissistic young woman :(" (actual words used) after they physically attacked a disabled trans man to get him to shut up as fast as possible. Really embodies what they mean when they insist they "care"

so sick of seeing "their poor parents" in regards to someone who is delusional, psychotic, or otherwise "not normal." any time the topic comes up, someone's there to drop that steaming pile of shit. i promise you, the caretakers aren't suffering half as much as the person they're caring for. but nobody talks about that part.

If your view of the future is that people who are disabled, addicts, or poor should be punished or eradicated for being such, you're not allowed to call yourself "punk" or "anarchist". You're pretty much a centrist borrowing both left and right talking points when it benefits you.

what i need narc abuse believers to realize when we say "narc/npd abuse doesn't exist" is that we are not saying:
your abuse wasn't real or valid
pwNPD are never abusive
pwNPD are perfect angels who can do no wrong, ever
you're a liar
you're lying about your abuse
there is a 0% chance your abuser had npd
abuse isn't real
abuse doesn't happen, ever
you're an abuser
you are, without a doubt, not disabled, and also one hundred percent ableist and sanist
we are saying, though:
narc abuse itself, as a concept, does not exist
narcissists do not perpetuate any type of abuse that egotypicals can't
your abuse and trauma wasn't narcissistic abuse but rather emotional or psychological abuse
narc abuse itself, as a concept, has harmed pwNPD and their relationships
narc abuse has ruined any chance of finding actually good resources
narc abuse itself, as a concept, has been used to abuse narcissists
narc abuse itself, as a concept, is named after a mental disorder, which is inherently sanist and ableist
you have ableist and sanist biases that you do need to check, regardless of if you're intentionally or actively trying to harm people or not

If you don't judge people for saying "sorry adhd brain" in public, then don't judge people for saying "sorry schizophrenia brain" in public
If you correct people when they misuse the term "ocd" then you need to correct people when they misuse the terms "psychotic", "delusional", "hallucinating" and "schizophrenic"
If you don't stare, laugh at or fear a stranger in public flapping their hands, then you need to do the same for a stranger in public talking to someone who isn't actually there.
If you give a trigger warning to sensitive topics then you need to give a trigger warning to unreality and false information as a prank.
If you want to normalize medication like antidepressants you also need to normalize medications like antipsychotics.
If you don't like people without your disorder joking about it online and report it as harassment, then you need to do the same for the tons of nonschizophrenics making "schizoposting" memes to make fun of us.
Just please include schizo-spec and psychotic acceptance into your mental illness/neurodiversity acceptance. We are part of your community whether you like it or not. We are constantly stigmatized, misrepresented and made fun of. We do what we can to help you, please return the favor.
Mental illness/neurodiversity acceptance is an ongoing action. We will get nowhere in the long run if we split the community into the "in" group and the "out" group. We could all accomplish so much if we worked together. But you need to include the "weird" people that don't fit into your aesthetic and don't fit the social norms.
Us psychotics and schizo-specs have been struggling for years and have been the only people fighting for ourselves while the people we plead to barely see us as human. If you are nonpsychotic and nonschizo-spec, you can help us more than you realize. Please include us and stick up for us the same way we have been including and sticking up for you.

next specialist to refuse testing or blame my maladies on my anxiety or weight despite me asking (begging, at this point) for further testing/a differential diagnosis is getting hit with the "document your refusal in my chart." no i am not "taking it one step at a time" no i am not accepting "you're just anxious" or "you're just overweight" as an answer. you are going to be a FUCKING DOCTOR and treat me. fuck you.
this is ok to reblog btw, i Encourage people in similar situations to express their anger. you deserve better we all fucking deserve better. no more being afraid of making them upset or angry. THEY make us suffer and want to die with their negligence. whatever discomfort we bring them by demanding documentation doesnt mean SHIT compared to what we go through.
rise up my disabled siblings, we have nothing to lose but a shitty fucking doctor.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but no mentally ill person is capable of evil that you are not. We are capable of abusing others, yes, but so are you. Our capacity to hurt people is the same as yours because to abuse is to make a choice, it is not something out of your control.
Narcissistic abuse isn’t real because pwNPD are not capable of abusing others in a way that people without NPD are not. If you have been hurt by one of them, well you’re capable of doing the same things as them. You are not better than them just because you don’t have a certain condition. You may tell me ‘a narc will destroy you to your core’ but so will you.
And I have been hurt by someone with BPD. I should have kicked her to the curb sooner than I did. I shouldn’t have let her hurt me like that. But you know what? The things she did to hurt me? People in my past who didn’t have BPD did the same things to me. Why would I blame her disorder for what she did if it’s clear that she didn’t need it to make that happen? She chose to be like that.
You are working in the favor of your abusers by blaming their behavior on mental illnesses. You’re handing them a get out of jail free card on a silver platter. Worse, you’re burning vulnerable people who did nothing wrong at the same time. Don’t absolve your abuser of guilt. Acknowledge that they chose to be the way they did.

Unfriendly reminder that if you gatekeep who's allowed to call themselves a cripple and claim mental illness "doesn't count" you're falling for the mind/body dualism pit trap and you're being sanist.
The brain is an organ, not a figment of imagination.
(I am both physically and mentally disabled. Argue w the wall.)
