Good afternoon from #Spain 🧡
These days have been very difficult and I needed a break from the productivity challenge.
I am starting the second semester and I have decided to take it easy. I am trying to recover previous reading habits and trying to enjoy as much as I can during my non-study time.
Hope you have an awesome and blessed weekend 🤍

Some days you don't want to fight so hard. So, please, rest. See the act of resting as an integral part to your healing, remember that recovery isn't always about fighting through your troubles without ever failing, without ever taking a moment to breathe. You still have to take care of your rest when you are in recovery, and even if you aren't, you are still a human being who deserves a good night's sleep, a warm shower, a nice meal, anything to help you settle down a little and rest.
It is okay to let go of issues for a moment and try to relax, to sleep a bit more, to stay in bed instead of pushing yourself to a burn-out. Save your energy, gather your strength by resting, and maybe tomorrow you will feel like dealing with your troubles a bit more. Don't give up on ever feeling better. Be aware of your life as it is now, live it, enjoy the moment as much as you can. Don't wait for life to start after recovery. Be present.
And remember that resting doesn't mean giving up. It means you are restoring energy, recharging your batteries so you can work better on a near future. Resting doesn't mean you are not living life, or that you are wasting time. You live through so much every single day, it is only fair that you rest. You deserve it. Take that nap if you need to. 🌱

Full-on nurture day.
Carbs and coffee, thank you very much!
I'll be going for a short walk with the boss after lunch.
A nice little wander around the local forest trails. That's all I'm doing today. It will definitely fit into the category of self care.
Breakfast is apple with cinnamon and mixed nuts as usual, but I've added almond butter and nutmeg.
A much needed day for taking care of myself. And these occasional nurture days get me rested and ready to get back "on it" the morning after.
I need rest and recovery. That's what my whole system is telling me, and I'm being smart by listening!

SloMo WriNo: Rest, Reassess, Refine
Tumblr media
November is over! We are one month into the challenge! And how are you feeling?
I haven’t done Nano for many years now, but I still feel a sense of relief when the month of November is over. There’s an ambient sense of anxiety in the online writer community that seems to infect me despite my best efforts.
But come the 1st of December? Freedom!
I intended to write a post discussing that, but instead I stopped dead. I felt unable to write a single word.
“Is this what people talk about when they say they can’t write?” I asked a friend. Who laughed at me. Not because she’s mean, but because I’m always the one with a hundred methods for getting around writer's block. I am the master of ‘just write the next sentence and the rest will come’ positivity.
I can always figure out a way to write if I really want to write.
But this time I couldn’t.
All of my executives had decided to stop functioning. I wanted to lie on the couch and enter a vegetative state. The human equivalent of an error code.
I had to stop for a moment. More than a moment.
A week, it turns out. A week of not writing at all.
I actually fought it for a few days, managing to edit and note down ideas. In retrospect, that was a bad choice, it just prolonged things. (It’s always easy to see these things in retrospect.)
You know those posts you see circulating that say stuff like ‘writing isn’t just writing, it’s taking a walk and looking at sunsets and etc, etc, etc.’ I firmly disagree. Writing isn’t an ethereal experience, it’s putting words on a page.
But making words doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It doesn’t come out of nowhere. It can be draining. Emotionally and physically. So while I don't consider breaks actually writing, I know they're necessary.
A person in the wip discord summed it up well by saying this: I've been pushing forwards so much I didn't let myself look back .
The combination of some things going on in my non-writing life, and the extra pressure I’ve been putting on myself to host this challenge, meant I hit a point where rest was required.
If, like me, you’ve found that after hitting a certain date or word count, you’ve slowed down or stopped writing, don’t punish or castigate yourself. (I say, like a hypocrite who spent at least two days in recrimination land.) Breaks are good and healthy. Don’t be ashamed of needing them.
But take a moment to think about why. What’s working and what isn’t. No matter what, it’s a good time to think about what you’ve accomplished, and where you’re going next.
For me I needed to assess how much time and energy writing these SloMo posts require of me, and how much I need to adjust the rest of my writing goals to accommodate that. I’ve realized that writing nonfiction takes a lot more energy from me than writing fiction.
You too may discover that certain projects require more effort and energy than others.
Or you might find that you’re tired because you’ve written more in November than you have in a while, or that the mental and emotional effort of implementing a new habit has been tiring.
It’s also time to reassess the mechanics of what you’ve been doing.
How is your current writing schedule working? Does having a minimum and maximum goal help or hinder? Is the time of day you’ve been aiming for working out? How is it affecting the rest of your life? (it’s no good to be getting words on the page at the expense of your work, relationships, and/or mental health.) Be ready to discard any and all advice from me or anyone else that isn’t working for you.
More than anything, don’t let the fact that you needed to rest and/or reassess stop you from pursuing your writing. Make the needed adjustments in your goals and schedule. And then get back to writing. (Like I’m going to. Right now actually.)

I love finding joy in doing nothing.
Seriously. I love sitting with my cat on a couch and doing absolutely nothing. I struggle to remember that my natural state is rest. That to be with a creature in stasis is what my ancestors wanted for me. I do not always have to work or pursue. I am allowed at my origin to breathe. Not wait. Not meditate. Not pursue. Just rest, absent of intention beyond rest.

here to remind you...
...that if things seem too stagnant right now, then maybe it's time to take a little break.
a change in routine, a little relaxation, or even a short trip can break the monotonous circle that we sometimes get stuck in.
allow yourself to switch gears. it's okay to go slow sometimes. let yourself relax ✨

Life has been really hard lately. But today I am okay. I'm pressing pause, I'm choosing to take the day for myself. There's only so much you can handle before you need to carve out some time for yourself. If you don't, your body will find a way to force you, sooner or later. So I'm making my coffee, I'm brushing my hair. I'm washing my body gently with my hands. Human touch is human touch, necessary and healing, even if it's your own hand that does the caressing. I'm playing my favourite song on repeat. I'm ignoring my work emails, I'm allowed a break from them on my day off. I'm lying in bed, watching an episode or two of a series I've been curious about for a while. I make my oatmeal and eat it too. I'm being gentle with myself. Life can be hard, but you don't have to be.

I need to recognise that I'm feeling low and poorly for a reason. And if I'm ill, I need to respect that.
I'm taking a couple of days off.
Or scaling it WAY down at least.
Two short walks and a client training session today. That's it.
When your body keeps shouting at you, you need to take your fingers out your ears and actually listen! My mind tells me to keep pushing. But right now I'm listening to my body.
I am going to stick to gentle movement, get my fasts in, and not throw my macros out.
I don't cope well with feeling like this. So I'm taking care of myself by slowing things down physically, whilst still eating well for my own priorities until I feel better.
I will spend some time on my homeopathy course after a bit of a read. I've been ignoring my past focus on fasting, even though I've still been doing them daily. So I'm going back to one of my collection of books on that subject.
