Y/N'S POV Lizzie and I had been together for five years. We met in college, fell deeply in love, and spent countless nights talking about our dreams and aspirations. We were each other's rock, supporting each other through thick and thin.
But how can a perfect relationship turn into a toxic one where we barely talk anymore?
I sit and watch you reading with your head low
I don't know what happened. I don't know how to fix it, it that I didn't even know exist. One second we were fine then the next, we're like strangers.
All I could do is sit here and watch her read the script for her new movie. Reading with her head low and sitting far away from me, almost as if I have a disease. As if there's an invisible wall between us.
We would always sit in silence, her pretending to watch TV or read books, but the tension between us was palpable. I know she could feel my eyes on her, but she never spared me a glance. It was as if she was avoiding me intentionally.
Minutes ticked by, and I decided to make her food. After making anchovy, I gently touch her on the shoulder. She jumped, startled, and looked up to find me standing next to her, holding out a plate.
"I made you your favorite," I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. "Anchovy toast."
Lizzie took the plate from my hand, "Thank you." she replied before looking back at the script once again.
I simply nodded and sat down where I originally sitting, and focused on my own hands folded in my lap with a sigh.
I wake and watch you breathing with your eyes close. I sit and watch you, I notice everything you do or don't do, you're so much older and wiser
I woke up around five in the morning, the sun hadn't completely risen yet, but the little lighting shone through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. My gaze fell upon my girlfriend, who lay beside me sleeping lightly. The rise and fall of her chest matched the rhythm of her breathing, a calming sight that used to bring me comfort.
As I lay in bed, I couldn't help but watch my partner, Lizzie, sleeping peacefully beside me. I stayed there, watching her for a moment and appreciate the sight before me. But despite the serenity of the scene, I still felt a pang of sadness in my heart.
Lizzie had always been a restless sleeper, constantly shifting positions throughout the night and sometimes even talking in her sleep. But tonight, she was lying completely still, her face calm and relaxed. If someone saw it, they would instantly let it go and think that she's in a deep slumber but I'm not just someone.
I know the truth.
She was pretending to be asleep and it felt like she didn't want to wake up beside me, like she is simply tolerating my presence.
I wait by the door like I'm just a kid, use my best colors for your portrait
They were small things I did for her, but meaningful nonetheless. Always wait by the door every day to greet her, to offer and show her some love and comfort after a hard day at work. I would always stand there, gazing out into the evening sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of my lover making her way home from work. It didn't matter what time it was, or how tired I am after a long day, I always made sure to be there, waiting for Lizzie.
I even took painting classes as it seemed to ease my mind. I poured all of my emotions into my painting, using every color in the palette to capture the beauty of Lizzie's face. I spent hours each day working on the portrait, trying to convey the depth of my feelings for her and I'd use my best colors for her portraits.
Lay the table with the fancy shit, and watch you tolerate it
I had always been a perfectionist when it comes to cooking and entertaining. I would always spent hours in the kitchen, preparing elaborate meals and setting beautiful tables for my lover. I would carefully select the finest ingredients, meticulously prepare each dish, and arrange the table with exquisite linens, flowers, and candles.
I'd make her favorite dishes, lay the table with best cutlery and yet again, no matter how hard I tried, she never seemed to appreciate my efforts. All Lizzie gave back were strained smiles, small and almost whispered hums, and nods in acknowledgment of my attempts, and a whisper of "thanks," as she shoveled the food into her mouth, barely taking the time to taste or savor any of it.
she seemed to simply… tolerate it.
If it's all in my head tell me now, tell me I've got it wrong somehow
Despite my best efforts to communicate openly and honestly with Lizzie, I felt like she wasn't really listening to me, and it made me feel invisible. I began to wonder if I was overthinking everything, if maybe I was the one who was misinterpreting our interactions. Maybe I was being too sensitive, too needy.
Maybe I was the one who was crazy, paranoid.
I felt so alone, so lost, and so unsure of what to do.
I know my love should be celebrated, but you tolerate it
I began to feel like I was living in a dream world where everything I created was invisible to everyone else. It was as if I was speaking a language that nobody understood, except for my own echoes in mind.
"Liz," I said with a trembling voice, "I've been giving everything I have to make you happy, but it feels like you don't see or appreciate it anymore. I feel taken for granted."
My choice of words caught her off guard, she paused for a moment before responding. "Y/N, I never asked you to do all these things for me. I don't need grand gestures to feel loved, I thought you knew that."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Was this really what our relationship had become? A constant stream of argument and neglect?
Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized the disconnect between our expectations. I had been trying so hard to show her love in a way that I thought she would appreciate, but it had only pushed us further apart.
And it happen, I finally snapped.
I felt a surge of anger and frustration well up inside of me.
Why was I putting so much effort into something that seemed to bring her no joy? Why did I care so deeply about pleasing someone who didn't seem to care about me at all?
I knew, I couldn't keep living this way, constantly pouring my heart and soul into something that brought me nothing but pain and disappointment. I realized that no matter how much I gave, Lizzie would never truly reciprocate and still, I constantly yearn for someone who clearly did not want me.
With a heavy heart, I packed my bags. Our relationship had become toxic, with me constantly sacrificing myself for someone who didn't appreciate me. I knew it was time to leave, before I lost any more pieces of myself.
Before leaving, I took a one last look, the last thing I want to remember was the way Elizabeth used to laugh at my jokes, enjoy our food, take me out on dates. The last thing I want to remember was how she used to love my presence, and not just tolerate it.
Maybe one day someone would be enough to have their love celebrated by her.

Y/N's POV
What are you really willing to do for love? For someone so important to you?
Well, for me, I'll do everything and anything for that person. Even though it hurts. So much.
I rolled to my side and smile instantly crept into my face. There she is, my girlfriend looking so peaceful. I admire her sleeping state and curved her figures inside my mind.
"You know, it's rude to stare." She suddenly spoke making me laugh.
"What? Can't I admire my gorgeous girl?" I teasingly asked.
She slowly opened her eyes revealing my favorite green eyes, "Good morning, Y/N." she whispered with a smile.
"Good morning, witchy." I softly said with a little laugh that I tried to hide causing her to throw a pillow at me.
I love morning like this. Just us not caring about the world.
Just like the clock works before we know it, we already have to leave the bed to face reality.
"It's nice to finally see you awake, love birds." Tony said as he took a sipped of his coffee.
"We're not love birds, Stark." Wanda replied with the roll of her eyes.
Ah, yes, we're secret because she said and I quote she's not yet ready to come out. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't hurt me one bit because it does. All I want is to love her, out in the open and not like this.
I felt a hand touches my shoulder causing me to go back to reality, I look infront of me and met Wanda's soft gazes, "Are you okay? I've called you so many times."
"Oh, yeah. Don't worry, I'm good." I breathed out and walked away not giving her any second glance.
I walked towards the kitchen and make myself coffee when Natasha spoke.
"Still keeping it a secret?" I didn't even notice she's here. And yes, she's the only one who knows about our relationship. We didn't tell her for the record, she just walked in on us… making out.
Anyway, I look up at her and gave her a defeated smile, "Isn't it obvious?"
"How long are you going to ignore that pain inside your chest?" she asked and I didn't answer because honestly… I don't know either.
"Y/N, when are you going to choose yourself? When are you going to see what your worth really is?" She continues holding my shoulder forcing me to face her.
"I love her." I whispered.
"And I know that, I can see that. Hell, you wouldn't even ignore and bare all this pain if you don't." Nat said and lift my chin, "You're like a sister to me and I don't say this often but I do love you, Y/N. I care for you and it's really hard seeing my little sister getting hurt whether she does it unintentionally." She softly added.
"Nat, I-" The words I was about to say instantly cut off when I heard Wanda's laugh ringing loud. I look behind us and see her laughing with Vision. The fucking red walking toaster.
"Are you sure the reason why she's keeping you both a secret is because she is not yet ready or…?" She asked trailing her last word knowing that I'll know it instantly.
"It's nothing, don't worry about it." I reassured her but deep down, it was for me.
Days turns into weeks which also turn into months. Months and nothing changed, not even a single thing. Every time I try opening the subject to Wanda, she always find a way to divert it into different subject but today, I wouldn't let it happen. Not anymore.
"Wanda, we need to talk." I sternly said as I enter her room.
"Hi to you too, baby." she replied still sitting on her bed.
"We can't go on like this." I directly said starting the topic.
"Y/N, can we–"
"No, we can't. We're going to talk about this right now. God, we've been together for almost three years, Wanda. Three long fucking years and not even single effort you made to change our status."
"Y/N, you know damn well I'm not yet ready to make us public." She said nearly shouting.
"Three years is not enough for you? I didn't say that you make us public, all I want is for the team to know. Just them. I'm tired being your little secret, I'm tired of you being mine just around this goddamn four walls. I respect what you want and need, Wanda. For three years, I prioritized what you want, this, but you have to understand that I can't do this anymore. I can't live like this anymore. I kept pushing my needs aside because I love you, but I can't do it anymore. I want to love you, freely. I kept choosing you, I kept giving you all my best me's until there's nothing left for me. I can't choose you anymore." I ramble, on the verge of crying but I kept all my emotions under control.
"Y/N, I… I'm sorry." Wanda softly said standing infront of me.
"Are you apologizing because you're now realizing all of this or are you apologizing because you still can't give the only thing I want?" I asked quietly.
"I'm sorry because I hurt you and I keep on hurting you."
"THEN TAKE IT AWAY! MAKE THIS GO AWAY BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THIS! DO SOMETHING!" I shouted as my tears finally left my eyes.
"Y/N…"
"Wanda, I don't know anymore. Do I throw out everything we built or keep it? I'm getting tired. I tried, I keep telling myself to wait until you're ready but every time, this voices inside my head kept telling and asking me, are you even going to get there?" I cried out.
"Are you… Are you tired now, Y/N?" she shakily asked.
I nod and wiped my tears, "I'm so tired, Wanda. I feel so lost, this between us made me doubt myself so much. Am I not worth the risk for you? I'm tired of wondering how can you just pretend everyday like we're nothing." I sobbed and sat on the bed as I rest my face on my hands, "I'm tired of saying that I'm okay, that it doesn't hurt. I'm tired of pretending everyday. I'm tired of waiting for you to fulfill your promises. I'm tired of defending you against Nat especially myself. I believed in you, Wanda. I kept waiting but it seems like in this relationship, it's not us against the world. It's me against you." I said between cries looking at her to see her crying as well.
"Y/N, I know whatever I say right now wouldn't change anything. It won't take the pain that I've caused you but trust me, I love you. I really do. I can understand how hurtful it must have been for you. I know that I failed to treat you with the love and respect that you deserve. I am truly sorry for any pain or suffering that I have caused you. It was never my intention to hurt you, and I can only imagine the amount of pain that I have caused you. I want you to know that I am willing to do whatever it takes to make things right between us. I am willing to work on myself and our relationship to ensure that this does not happen again. I know that sorry is not enough to fix the mess I have made. I promise to do everything I can to show you how much I love and value you as my girlfriend." Wanda sobbingly said as she held my hand.
"There, you're making promises once again. How many time did you promise me that you'll make it up to me? at first you'll make such effort but eventually, you'll stop and forget about it. I don't even know if I can trust anything that's coming out of your mouth right now." I said and walked away from her, "It hurts me to think that we can't share this part of our lives together with those who are important to us. Am I not important to you? Do you not trust me? Or is it just too scary to go against the norm? I can't keep pretending not to be in love with you when we're around others. I want to hold your hand, introduce you to my friends and family, and just be able to love you openly without any fear or shame." I added. "I don't understand." Wanda said. I chuckled, "I know you don't."
"Do you want to end this? Us?" She asked with fears in her eyes.
I stayed quiet for few seconds thinking what I really want before looking back at her meeting her eyes, "Yes." I husked out causing more tears to fall out of her eyes.
"I'm just so tired, Wanda. I'm tired of the stress and the pressure that surrounds us every day. I'm tired of asking 'how long?' I'm tired of feeling like there's never enough time to do everything we want to do. I'm tired of constantly feeling like we're not doing enough, or that we're falling short somehow. Most of all, I'm tired of feeling disconnected from you. It feels like you've been so busy, so caught up in your own life, that you don't take the time to connect with me. I miss those intimate moments where we could just talk about anything and everything, and I feel like we don't have those as often as we should. It has to be done and I don't want to place blame on anyone— not myself, not you, not anyone else." I walked towards her and wiped her tears before pressing our foreheads together, "I'm sorry, I never thought that this day will come. I'm sorry I got tired and couldn't wait anymore. I love you but I can't be with you anymore. My heart won't start anymore." I finished before lingering a long kiss on her head.
"I love you, Y/N. I'm sorry for not showing it enough. I'm sorry I failed us." She sniffles before looking at me and caressed my cheeks, "I love you… in every universe."
I finally understood that true love isn't always about being together; Sometimes, it's about letting go. Because love alone, wasn't enough.
Both ends of rope were held, but they were held by me, and only me.
I love her too much and that's my biggest mistake I'll never regret, and if I'd ever meet her again in another lifetime, I'll beg the god to let me have you this time.

There's glitter on the floor after the party, girls carrying their shoes down in the lobby
The night was a tapestry woven with laughter, music, and the effervescent sparkle of celebration. A grand soirée had unfolded within the opulent walls of a magnificent ballroom, where the elite gathered to revel in the luxuries of life. Crystal chandeliers cast a dazzling glow over the dance floor, and the air buzzed with the merriment of the occasion.
A girl named Y/N had always been the quiet, observant type, content to linger on the edges of social gatherings and take in the energy of the room. Her world seemed to transform, however, when she received an invitation from to the grandest event of the year— a dazzling party hosted by the illustrious Scarlett Johansson, her sister. ( she always received an invitation, she just doesn't go. well, until now. )
Scarlett was the epitome of grace and sophistication, known for hosting events that left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to attend. Her parties were legendary, with an air of enchantment that lingered long after the final guest had departed.
Amidst the sea of faces, Y/N's eyes fell upon Elizabeth, her sisters' best friend, moving through the crowd like a vision. Elizabeth, the girl she had admired from afar for what felt like an eternity, was there, of course. Elizabeth's presence exuded confidence and charisma, and Y/N couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in her chest as she nervously adjusted the hem of her dress, feeling a bit out of place amid the elegant crowd.
Elizabeth's presence also seemed to cast a magnetic pull, and Y/N found herself drawn toward her.
The glitter, like the residue of a magical moment, adorned the floor beneath Elizabeth's feet. Y/N's heart raced as she gathered the courage to strike up a conversation, as she approached Elizabeth.
"Hi," Y/N stammered, a nervous smile playing on her lips.
Elizabeth turned toward her, a warm smile gracing her face. "Hey there! I haven't seen you around before. Are you enjoying the party?"
Y/N nodded, her cheeks flushed with a delicate shade of pink, "It's incredible. I never imagined I'd be here."
Elizabeth chuckled, her laughter like a melody in the air, "Well, I'm glad you made it. These events can be a bit overwhelming, but they have their charm."
As the night unfolded, Y/N found herself drawn to Elizabeth's orbit. They exchanged polite conversations, laughter resonating in the air like a melody. The conversation flowed effortlessly, like a dance that mirrored the enchantment of the night. They shared stories, dreams, and in that moment, the glitter on the floor seemed to shimmer a bit brighter. Elizabeth's charm was undeniable, and Y/N felt a magnetic pull, as if fate had orchestrated this meeting.
"I've always admired you from afar." Y/N confessed, her words tinged with vulnerability.
Elizabeth's eyes sparkled with genuine interest, "Really? I had no idea. I'm flattered."
The night unfolded like a fairy tale, with Y/N and Elizabeth losing themselves in the magic of the party. They danced beneath the twinkling lights, and as the night wore on, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that something extraordinary was happening.
Elizabeth, too, seemed intrigued by the genuine nature of Y/N, a refreshing contrast to the glittering facade of the event. The glitter on the floor beneath their feet seemed to sparkle with a newfound significance. It wasn't just the remnants of a party; it was the residue of a connection that had blossomed amidst the glamour.
As the party reached its crescendo, Y/N and Elizabeth found themselves amidst a shower of confetti. Y/N couldn't help but wonder if this enchanting encounter was the beginning of something beautiful.
As the night came to a close, Elizabeth looked at Y/N with a twinkle in her eyes, "I'm glad you came tonight." she said, a genuine smile gracing her lips.
Y/N, overwhelmed with a mix of excitement and gratitude, responded, "I'm glad I did too. This has been an incredible night."
Elizabeth, seemed reluctant to part ways, "Maybe we could do this again sometime?" she suggested, her eyes holding a hint of anticipation.
Y/N nodded, a smile lighting up her face, "I'd like that."
As they bid each other goodnight, Y/N walked away from the glitter-strewn ballroom with a heart full of hope. Little did Y/N know that the glitter on the floor wasn't just a symbol of a party's aftermath; it was a metaphor for the unexpected magic that had unfolded. From that night onward, Y/N and Elizabeth's connection continued to grow, their lives intertwined in a story that began with glitter on the floor and unfolded into a beautiful, unforeseen romance.
Candle wax and Polaroids on the hardwood floor, you and me from the night before
The soft glow of candlelight flickered around the room, casting dancing shadows on the hardwood floor. Y/N and Elizabeth sat amidst a scattering of Polaroids, capturing moments frozen in time— snapshots of their shared laughter, stolen kisses, and the everyday beauty that painted their love story.
As Y/N gazed at the Polaroids, a smile played on their lips. "Do you remember this one?" Y/N held up a photo, capturing a lazy Sunday morning when they had decided to make pancakes together.
Elizabeth's eyes sparkled with nostalgia as she looked at the image, "Of course, how could I forget?" Elizabeth replied, reaching for the photo. "That was the day we ended up having breakfast for dinner because your pancake-making skills needed improvement."
They both laughed, the memory resurfacing as vividly as if it had happened just yesterday. The warmth in the room wasn't just from the flickering candles; it was a reflection of the enduring love that had grown between them.
Y/N picked up another photograph, this one capturing a quiet moment shared on a rainy day.
"Our impromptu dance party in the living room." Y/N reminisced, their eyes locked with Elizabeth's.
"Ah, how could I not?" Elizabeth chuckled, "We danced like no one was watching, and for a moment, it felt like the world outside didn't exist. Just you, me, and the music."
The moments captured in those Polaroids held a special place in their hearts, a testament to the journey they had undertaken together. Yet, amidst the warmth and nostalgia, there was also a subtle acknowledgment of the challenges they had faced.
As a soft music playing softly in the background, Elizabeth's gaze met Y/N's with a depth of understanding. "You know," Elizabeth began, her voice gentle, "those moments, the ones in these pictures, they're precious to me. But what matters even more is the now. The present and the future we're creating together."
Y/N nodded, appreciating the sentiment behind Elizabeth's words. The journey of love wasn't just about reminiscing; it was about building and evolving, about facing the uncertainties of the future hand in hand.
"I love looking at these memories," Y/N admitted, "but I love the idea of making new ones even more. Our story isn't confined to the past; it's a living, breathing narrative that we're still writing every day."
Elizabeth reached out, taking Y/N's hand in hers. "Forevermore."
"Our love story continues, one Polaroid at a time, each frame capturing the beautiful journey we're on."
Don't read the last page, but I stay when it's hard, or it's wrong, or we're making mistakes
Their journey began years ago, with chance encounters and stolen glances evolving into shared laughter and whispered confidences. Y/N's meticulous breathed life into Elizabeth's vivacity world, and in turn, Elizabeth's stability provided a comforting anchor for Y/N.As the seasons changed, so did the dynamics of their relationship. Together, they weathered storms and reveled in the sunny days. They celebrated victories, both big and small, and navigated the challenges that life threw their way.
And today, another challenge got thrown into their way.
The apartment echoed with the sharp tones of an argument that seemed to reverberate through the walls, leaving an uncomfortable tension in its wake. Y/N paced back and forth, frustration etched across their face, while Elizabeth stood by the window, a mixture of anger and hurt in her eyes.
"Why can't you see my point of view, Y/N?" Elizabeth's voice was raised, her frustration bubbling over, "I feel like you're not even trying to understand where I'm coming from."
Y/N stopped in their tracks, a sigh escaping their lips, "I am trying, Elizabeth, but it feels like every time we talk about this, we end up going in circles. I need you to meet me halfway, to see things from my perspective too."
The room was filled with an uneasy silence, broken only by the distant sounds of the city outside. Elizabeth took a deep breath, her voice softening, "I just thought we were on the same page. I thought we wanted the same things."
Y/N turned to face Elizabeth, frustration giving way to a deep sadness. "We do want the same things, but we have different ways of getting there. Can't we find a middle ground without tearing each other apart?"
Elizabeth looked away, the weight of the argument settling heavily on her shoulders. "I don't know, Y/N. Sometimes it feels like we're just not meant to be together."
Those words hung in the air, a painful acknowledgment of the growing rift between them. Y/N felt a lump forming in their throat, but they refused to let the conversation end on such a somber note. "Elizabeth, look, I know we're going through a tough time. But I want to stay, even when it's hard. I want to work through this, find a way to make us stronger."
Elizabeth's gaze softened as she met Y/N's eyes, "But how, Y/N? How do we fix this when it feels like we're both pulling in opposite directions?"
Y/N took a step closer, reaching for Elizabeth's hand. "Maybe we start by acknowledging that we're both imperfect. We're going to make mistakes, say the wrong things, but that doesn't mean we give up on each other. It means we fight for what we have, even when it's difficult."
Elizabeth sighed, her shoulders sagging as the weight of the argument began to lift. "I just don't want us to end up resenting each other."
Y/N nodded, squeezing Elizabeth's hand gently, "Neither do I. That's why we need to communicate, be patient with each other, and remember that we're a team. We can navigate through the storms, but only if we face them together."
I want your midnights, but I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day
The city was alive with the anticipation of a new year, the air crisp with the promise of fresh beginnings. In the heart of it all, Y/N and Elizabeth found themselves atop a rooftop overlooking the city skyline, a canvas of twinkling lights that mirrored the anticipation in their hearts. The year had been a rollercoaster, but tonight, they decided to welcome the new beginning together.
Y/N, with her contagious enthusiasm, looked at Elizabeth with sparkling eyes. "Can you believe it's another year already?" she exclaimed, a warmth spreading through her as she took in the breathtaking view.
Elizabeth, always the anchor to Y/N's free spirit, smiled gently. "Time flies when you're in love, doesn't it?" Her hand found Y/N's, fingers intertwining like a promise.
As the night unfolded, they decided to forego the traditional crowded parties and embrace a more intimate celebration. The rooftop became their private haven, adorned with fairy lights and a cozy blanket, creating a cocoon that shielded them from the world below.
Y/N produced a small Bluetooth speaker, the soft strains of their favorite songs filling the air. The lyrics of Taylor Swift's "New Year's Day" seemed to resonate with the atmosphere around them. The skyline, the city lights, and the company of each other made it a moment that felt both infinite and fleeting.
"I want your midnights," Y/N sang along softly, her gaze locked with Elizabeth's. "But I'll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day."
Elizabeth chuckled, her eyes reflecting the love and warmth that had blossomed between them over countless midnights and New Year's Eves. "Well, I wouldn't want to be cleaning up bottles with anyone else." she replied, her thumb tracing circles on the back of Y/N's hand.
Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you
The rain gently tapped against the window pane, creating a soothing cadence that mirrored the rhythmic beating of Y/N's heart. She sat on the edge of her bed, surrounded by the warmth of soft lamplight and the subtle scent of vanilla candles. It was a quiet evening, the kind that invited introspection, and Y/N found herself drifting into a sea of memories, each one a page in the story of her long-term relationship with Elizabeth.
Y/N couldn't help but reminisce about the love story she shared with Elizabeth. The room was adorned with photographs capturing moments, a visual timeline of their journey together. Y/N reached for a framed picture on the shelf, her fingers tracing the contours of Elizabeth's smiling face. A soft sigh escaped her lips, the memories played out like a film reel in Y/N's mind.
The lazy Sunday mornings, the spontaneous road trips, the quiet nights curled up on the couch. Each moment was a treasure, and Y/N held them close to her heart. One particularly vivid memory stood out— the night they danced under a sky full of stars.
"Dance with me, just like this, forever." Elizabeth whispered.
"Forever sounds perfect." Y/N said with a soft smile on her face.
The rhythm of their hearts matched the melody of the night, creating a symphony of love that echoed in their shared laughter and whispered promises.
The room was bathed in the soft glow of memories as Y/N continued to reflect. She recalled the day they decided to take a break—a moment that tested the strength of their love.
"We need this time, but I love you, always." Her girlfriend, Elizabeth, said.
"I love you too."
Time apart allowed them to grow individually, and eventually, they found their way back to each other. Now, as Y/N held onto those memories, she felt a surge of gratitude for the love they had shared. The phone rang, interrupting her reverie.
It was Elizabeth.
"Hey, just wanted to hear your voice."
Y/N smiled, and said, "I was just thinking about us. Our memories."
"The good or the bad?" Elizabeth joked.
"All of it. Because every memory, every moment, holds a piece of you."
"And a piece of you is eternally a part of me. I love you, Y/N."
"I love you, Lizzie"
"What memories are you holding onto right now?" Elizabeth asked.
Y/N's mind wandered back to the early days of their relationship, the days filled with the excitement of discovery and the sweet anticipation of shared dreams.
"Remember our first date? The nervous laughter, the awkward moments, and then that magical instant when we both realized we were exactly where we were meant to be?"
"Of course, I remember. I was so struck by your authenticity, by the genuine connection we shared. It was like finding a missing piece." Elizabeth replied happily.
"And our road trip to the mountains— the wind in our hair, the breathtaking views, and those late-night conversations under a blanket of stars. It felt like we were the only two people in the world."
"Those moments were magical. I still carry the echo of your laughter and the warmth of your hand in mine."
"Even in the tough times, we held onto each other. Like that rainy night when we danced in the living room, turning a simple evening into a celebration of us." Y/N recalled.
"That dance felt like a promise—a promise to weather the storms together and to find joy in the simple moments. I wouldn't trade it for anything."
Please don't ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
Y/N sat by the window, the soft glow of the city lights casting a warm ambience in the room. She traced her finger along the rim of her coffee cup, lost in thought. As she sipped her coffee, memories unfolded like pages of a cherished book. Elizabeth's laughter echoed in her mind— the way it tinkled like wind chimes on a breezy day, a sound that had become synonymous with joy and comfort. Y/N couldn't imagine a world where that laughter faded, where Elizabeth became a distant echo rather than the melody that accompanied the rhythm of their lives.
Lost in her contemplation, Y/N couldn't help but think aloud. "You know, Liz," she began, turning to face her long-term girlfriend, who was immersed in a book on the other side of the room. "There's something about the idea of recognizing your laugh anywhere that's so profound. It's like a piece of home, a constant in the ever-changing symphony of life."
Elizabeth was not just a girlfriend; she was the rhythm to Y/N's melody, the familiarity that made every moment feel like home.
Elizabeth looked up from her book, a gentle smile playing on her lips. "What got you thinking about that, love?" she asked, setting her book aside and giving Y/N her full attention.
Y/N sighed, her gaze filled with a mix of nostalgia and deep affection. "It just hit me— your laughter is like a familiar melody that I never want to forget. I can close my eyes and imagine you in any room, and your laughter would stand out. It's like a part of you that's etched into my soul."
Elizabeth's eyes softened, and she walked over to Y/N, taking a seat beside her. "You know, I feel the same way about you. Your presence, your laughter, they're the constants in my life. I can't imagine ever not recognizing the sound of your joy."
"Do you ever think about us, about our future?"
Elizabeth looked thoughtful, her eyes reflecting the golden hues of the lights, "All the time," she admitted. "I can't imagine my life without you, Y/N. You're the constant melody in my world."
Y/N's heart swelled with affection. She took Elizabeth's hand, fingers entwined in a silent promise. "I wish we could freeze these moments, make them last forever. I wish for a future where we continue to recognize each other's laughter, where we remain intertwined in this beautiful symphony of 'us.' Forever doesn't seem long enough when it comes to us, Liz."
Elizabeth smiled, her gaze never leaving Y/N's. "Forever sounds perfect, doesn't it?" she leaned in, pressing a tender kiss to Y/N's forehead. "Forever sounds perfect to me, love. As long as we're together, navigating the highs and lows of life, our laughter will always be the soundtrack of our love story."
Please don't ever become a stranger whose laugh I could recognize anywhere
The city bustled with life as Y/N strolled through the vibrant streets, the echoes of laughter and snippets of conversation forming a symphony of urban living.
One day, Y/N found herself in a quaint coffee shop, seeking refuge from the midday chaos. The aroma of freshly ground coffee beans and the soft hum of conversation enveloped her. With a steaming cup in hand, she settled into a corner seat, intending to lose herself in the anonymity of the busy café. As Y/N sipped her coffee, lost in the depths of her own thoughts, a familiar sound floated through the air— the distinct, sound cut through the ambient noise— a melodic laugh, unmistakably that belonged to none other than Elizabeth.
It was a melody etched in Y/N's memory, a sound that had once been a symphony of shared joy and love. The laughter was distant, as if carried by a gentle breeze, but it resonated deeply within Y/N. She looked around, searching for the source of the laughter. Y/N's heart skipped a beat as they turned, their eyes locking onto Elizabeth across the room, her profile framed by the soft glow of the café lights. Time seemed to pause as Y/N watched, unable to tear her gaze away. Elizabeth was engrossed in conversation with a group of friends, her laughter a harmonious blend with the chatter around her. As the laughter reached Y/N's ears, a rush of emotions flooded her. It had been so long since Y/N had heard that laugh, a sound that used to bring comfort and warmth. But now, it felt like a bittersweet melody, a reminder of what once was.
Elizabeth's laughter, once intimately familiar, now seemed like a distant echo. Y/N couldn't help but be captivated by the way her eyes crinkled at the corners, the way her joy seemed to light up the entire room. Yet, the reality struck hard— there was a gap between them now, a silence that spoke volumes. Elizabeth's laugh, once an intimate melody meant only for Y/N, now echoed in a space where they were strangers once again.
As she kept watching her used to be lover, Y/N grappled with the decision of whether to approach Elizabeth or let the moment pass like ships in the night. Summoning courage, Y/N decided to break the silence. They approached Elizabeth's table, a hesitant smile on their face.
"Hey…" Y/N greeted softly.
Elizabeth looked up, her eyes widening in surprise. "Y/N," she said, a mixture of emotions playing across her features. "It's been a while." The syllables carrying the weight of a history they once shared.
"Yeah, it has," Y/N admitted, the gap of unfamiliarity stretching between them. "I couldn't help but overhear your laugh. It's… it's still as beautiful as ever." Her voice carrying a blend of nostalgia and uncertainty.
Elizabeth's smile wavered for a moment before she replied, "Thank you. How have you been?"
Y/N's response was measured, "I've been okay. Life has its ups and downs, you know."
"Yeah, I know." Elizabeth acknowledged, their gazes momentarily locking.
The café became a witness to the delicate dance of words, the ebb and flow of a conversation that teetered on the edge of rekindling familiarity and accepting the reality of becoming strangers once more.
"I heard about your new job," Elizabeth said, her attempt at small talk. "Congratulations."
"Thanks," Y/N replied, a flicker of gratitude in their eyes. "And you? How's everything on your end?"
Elizabeth hesitated for a moment before answering, "It's been a journey. Ups and downs, like you said."
Y/N nodded, a sense of shared understanding hanging in the air. "It was good seeing you." she finally said, her gaze lingering for a moment before she turned to go her separate way.
"You too…" Elizabeth replied, a mixture of emotions bubbling beneath the surface.
As Y/N left the coffee shop, the sound of Elizabeth's laughter lingered in the air, a haunting reminder of what was lost. They walked away, each step carrying the weight of a past that had shaped them, a love that had left its indelible mark, and the bittersweet knowledge that some connections, no matter how profound, could unravel and become memories of a time when two hearts beat as one.
Y/N, caught between the past and the present, couldn't shake the feeling that some melodies, once so intimately known, might now forever remain distant echoes.
And now, Elizabeth become a stranger whose laugh she could recognize anywhere.

ELIZABETH'S POV
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the city streets. I sat on a park bench, lost in the memories of a love that had once consumed my every thought.
I still remember the day I first laid eyes on her. It was a warm summer evening as I sat sipping my coffee in a quaint little café downtown. Her radiant smile and infectious laughter caught my attention from across the room as she chatted animatedly with a group of friends. There was an undeniable aura of confidence and grace that surrounded her, making it impossible for me to look away.
Little did I know then that this chance encounter would mark the beginning of a love story unlike any other.
As fate would have it, we eventually crossed paths again at a mutual friend's housewarming party. I mustered up the courage to approach her and strike up a conversation. We spent the entire evening engrossed in passionate discussions about art, cinema, and life. From that moment, it felt as though the universe had conspired to bring us together.
Her name was Y/N, known for her kind heart and artistic talent, she worked as a freelance photographer to capture the captivating essence of the world around her.
Y/N's talent and beauty captivated me from the moment we met. As we spent more time together, our connection deepened, and I found myself falling head over heels for her. Every moment I spent with Y/N felt like a scene from a movie I never wanted to end.
This marked the beginning of our whirlwind romance, as we spent every waking moment together, exploring and nurturing our deep bond.
We were inseparable, two souls entwined in a fiery passion for life and each other, bound by shared dreams and shared laughter. We shared a deep connection that seemed unbreakable. We believed we could conquer any obstacles together. As our love blossomed, we believed that nothing could tear us apart, but little did I know that destiny had different plans for us.
I'm an aspiring and rising actress with a raw talent and dreams as vast as the night sky. Y/N quickly became enthralled by my creativity, dedication, and unwavering belief in my talent. We began our journey as a couple, sharing in both the triumphs and tribulations that came with my pursuit of stardom.
The early days were filled with excitement and promise. She watched me blossom from one auditions to the next, inhabiting different characters effortlessly, leaving audiences captivated. Seeing me gain recognition for my hard work brought immense joy to both of our hearts. However, as my career started gaining momentum, it became evident that the demands of the industry began to take its toll and would put a strain on our relationship.
Our love was exhilarating, but also fragile.
As our relationship flourished, my acting career started to skyrocket. I landed roles in films, theater productions, and even received a nomination for an esteemed acting award. Y/N admired my dedication and passion for my craft, but I know, she couldn't help but feel a pang of unease as our lives began to move in different directions.
As my star began to ascend, I found myself faced with complicated choices. My career demanded my undivided attention, leaving little room for anything else. The glitz and glamour of my newfound fame consumed me, while she silently supported me from the shadows. Y/N became my biggest fan, attending every premiere and award ceremony, proud to be by my side.
My career as an actress began to grow, landing me on several leading roles in critically acclaimed movies and earning widespread recognition. I became the talk of the town, and my journey to stardom overshadowed everything else in my life, including my relationship with Y/N.
As my dedication to my craft grew, so did the distance between us. Our once intimate moments became fleeting, replaced by late-night auditions and endless rehearsals. Our conversations became brief, filled with surface-level pleasantries. I tried desperately to hold on, but it felt like the more I held, the more she slipped away.
Like clockwork, the late-night auditions and grueling shooting schedules began to consume our time together. It was during one such pivotal moment, as I stood on the precipice of fame, that I made the heartbreaking decision to prioritize my career and put our love on hold.
One evening, while cuddled up on our favorite couch, sipping on mugs of warm tea, I turned to Y/N with a weakened smile.
"Y/N," I started, voice filled with both excitement and uncertainty, "I've been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
"What kind of opportunity, Liz?" She asked, her voice quivering with anticipation.
"I've been offered the lead role in a blockbuster film." I confessed, eyes gleaming with a mixture of hope and trepidation.
"I can't believe you got the lead role, baby! I'm so proud of you." Y/N said, my heart filled with both excitement and a hint of sadness.
I looked at her, my eyes shining with a mixture of determination and guilt. I took a deep breath before speaking, "Thank you, love. I've worked so hard for this opportunity, and I can't let it slip away. It's a chance to catapult my career to new heights, but it means committing to months of intense filming overseas. It also means I'll have to dedicate all my time to rehearsals and performances. I won't be able to give you what you deserve." I can feel the lump forming in my throat as my heart tightening.
"Are you saying… you're choosing your career over us?" Y/N asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I reached out to hold her hand, "No, it's not that. I love you with all my heart, but this dream means everything to me. I need to take this chance, even if it means breaking both our hearts in the process."
Days turned into endless nights as she watched me passionate pursuit of fame. Y/N stood by my side, supporting my dreams while silently breaking inside. Yet, we couldn't bring ourselves to let go.
Love had a way of blinding us to harsh realities.
Months passed, and the distance between us grew. The sparkle in my eyes, once fueled by our love, dimmed with the weight of my commitment to my craft. The late-night conversations turned into quiet embraces, and the laughter that used to echo through our home became mere faint memories.
With each passing film, my commitment to my career just grew even stronger, causing me to face a difficult choice between love and ambition.
Then came the day that shattered our fragile world.
One evening, as the dusk settled over our now-empty apartment, I stood by the door, my eyes flickering with a mixture of excitement and sadness. We could see the desperate struggle within both of us, torn between my aspirations and our love.
I made a decision that shattered both our hearts into a million fragments. I stood before her, tears streaming down our face, and whispered words that still haunt me to this day, "I'm sorry, but I can't keep juggling both my career and our relationship."
I saw her face fell, her heart sinking with the weight of my words. We knew this was the moment she had been dreading. She understood that my dreams were on the line, but Y/N couldn't escape the fear of losing me. and now, it's happening.
"Lizzie, I want nothing more than to see you succeed and chase your dreams," She said softly, holding my hands tightly. "But what about us? What about our relationship?"
My eyes filled with tears as I gently squeezed her hands, "I love you, Y/N, more than words can express," I whispered. "But love alone cannot decide our futures. We both have dreams to pursue, and I hope you understand that I don't want to hold you back."
"Lizzie, please…"
"I needed to pursue my dream, even if it meant sacrificing our love. I can't ask you to wait for me, Y/N," I said softly, my voice quivering. "This journey is something I need to take alone."
She fought against the tears threatening to overflow, but understanding my dreams. Y/N nodded, struggling to find her voice, "I'll always be here for you, Lizzie. No matter what."
Both our heart broke at each others words, but we knew I was right. Love alone could not sustain our relationship if it was suffocated by unfulfilled dreams. As much as it hurt, we had to let eachother go and went to follow our own path.
As she left, I felt hollow, like a ghost existing in a world that had suddenly turned dark. I wandered through the ruins of what was once our love, searching for a purpose, for something to fill the void she left behind.
But, the bright lights of fame and fortune beckoned me, and I made the difficult choice to prioritize my career above all else.
In the aftermath of my departure, I was left in a sea of solitude. Trying to mend my broken heart, I threw myself into work and surrounded myself with friends who could offer solace. It wasn't easy, but life moved on, and I learned to cope with the dull ache that haunted me. The pain of our separation was raw and merciless, leaving me to question if I had made the right choice.
Years went by, and life slowly stitched my broken heart back together. I learned to live without Y/N, but the memories remained etched in my mind like faded photographs.
I heard that Y/N's passion for photography took her to new heights, showcasing her talent on richly colored canvases. Meanwhile, I had become one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses, reaping the awards for my hard work along with my dedication and acclaim to my name.
But amidst my successes, I had never forgot about her. Our love, though altered, remained forever etched in my heart.
One fateful day, I received an invitation to an interview segment where I would talk about myself. My past love. As nervous as I was, I couldn't resist the opportunity to let go what I was really feeling, even if it stirred up old emotions. The interview took place in a luxurious Hollywood hotel suite, adorned with floral arrangements and twinkling lights, setting the stage for an unforgettable encounter.
As I walked into the hotel suite where the interview was scheduled, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and apprehension bubbling within me.
I entered the room, clad in a stunning red suit that accentuated my beauty. I exchanged pleasantries with the woman who assigned to interview me.
As the interview progressed, I found myself caught in a whirlwind of emotions, alternating between reclaiming the familiarity we once shared and maintaining professionalism.
"So, Miss Lizzie…" The woman trailed, "Why are you still single?"
"I choose to pursue my dreams." I said with a smile, "I wanted to become popular. Make my own name." I added.
"What happened to you and your past lover?" She asked.
"Everything went downhill the moment I start gaining the spotlight. Time was our number one enemy." I answered honestly, "She was so proud, we were both happy but ofcourse, along all of that is the sacrifices."
"That's where the conflict started?"
I nod simply, "I got so busy. We barely see eachother since I'm always tired and sometimes, staying on the set. We almost broke up the first time but choose to fix things."
"That's good." She happily replied.
"Honestly, I don't think so…" I start to play with the rings on my hand, "As a rising actress, my job demands a lot. I can't focus on two things that time. I was never good at handling things in general."
"When was the time that you realized you need to let it go?"
"Before, we can't last a minute without talking to eachother then that changed. We barely talk as we were both become busy pursuing our dreams." I smiled a little, "That's when I knew… it's over."
"Was it a proper break up?"
"Yes, it was. At first, she said no but I explained it to her. We both have a dream. I don't want to hold her back and same goes to me."
She looked at the paper she's holding before asking, "Any regrets?"
I coyly looked into her eyes and said, "The one thing I regret most in my journey to success is not having her by my side. We had something truly special, and I've often wondered what might have been." My eyes glistened with tears as I added with a heavy heart, "It's been so hard without her. But I needed to follow my dreams, even if it meant losing the love of my life."
The woman reached out and gently held my hand, "I'm sure, it was a difficult decision for both of you. Life took you both down different paths, but it doesn't mean your love wasn't real."
I let out a sigh tinged with sadness, "She were always my biggest supporter. But I couldn't let go of this opportunity, even if it broke my heart."
"What was the last thing you heard about her?"
"She's a successful photographer now and a very famous host in a lot of TV shows."
As the interview concluded, she asked, "One last question, do you still love her?"
I smiled and wiped my tears, "When I left all those years ago, I never stopped loving her. It's gonna be her, always."
"Do you have anything to say for her before we end this?"
I nodded, "Sometimes, we need to make tough choices that shape our destiny. I'm glad you found success, and I hope it brings you all the joy you deserve." I took a deep breath, my eyes filled with the bittersweet realization,"We can't change the past, but we can choose how our story unfolds from here. Maybe it is really time for us to rewrite our narrative. For the last time, I love you."
"Thank you so much for granting our invitation and answering the questions, Miss Lizzie."
"Thank you so much and you're welcome, Y/N."
And in that definitive moment, the world outside the hotel suite faded away, leaving only our souls who had found their way back to each other. As the door closed behind us, our past became but a memory, and the unwritten chapters of our future began to unfold.
The past, the heartbreaks, the missed chances—it all seemed to evaporate into thin air.
Sometimes, the choices we make lead us down paths we never planned, but in the end, it's the love we choose to hold onto that truly defines our lives. And in the depths of our hearts, the memories of shattered spotlights can find solace, reminding us of the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.
Sometimes, the journey of love leads us through unforeseen detours. It teaches us the power of sacrifice, the pain of letting go, and the resilience of the human heart. And in the end, we find solace knowing that even after traversing treacherous paths, we can still stumble upon our own happily ever after.
After all this time, I knew that sometimes, the most painful goodbyes could lead us to the greatest love stories of all.
