i think one of the most beautiful things about being in a relationship is that you'll never get to fully know them. they'll always have new stories, their favorite foods will change, they actually cant stand that band now. they'll find new hobbies, they'll read new books that they have got to tell you about and you will not believe what happened at work today. i just love not knowing, i love learning who they are over and over again.

Queer Reviews: T.J. Klune, "Under The Whispering Door".
Tumblr media
CW: death, grief, suicide, childhood trauma, mildly graphic violence
Plot: When a reaper comes to collect Wallace from his own funeral, Wallace begins to suspect he might be dead.
And when Hugo, the owner of a peculiar tea shop, promises to help him cross over, Wallace decides he’s definitely dead.
But even in death he’s not ready to abandon the life he barely lived, so when Wallace is given one week to cross over, he sets about living a lifetime in seven days.
10/10 on the Rainbow Scale™ 🌈: In all honesty, finding the words to describe this book is really hard. No other author has ever been able to tug at my heartstrings and take my breath away the way T.J. Klune (and very few others) does. As much a reflection on death as it is on life and what we leave behind, at times it reminded me of "A Christmas Carol" and "It's a Wonderful Life". I had promised myself my eyes would stay dry until the end, but I failed miserably and I also had to lie down for a few hours after I was finished. I don't think I have fully processed this book yet, and I probably won't for quite a bit longer. It was truly incredible and I will think about it forever.

Hi can so many of the top YouTube recommendations for videos about M/M books be made by men instead of women please and thank you?
Something about the combination of women recommending M/M books, and using erotica books as thumbnail examples, just isn't sparking the most joy in me for some reason.
Maybe the problem is that I'm seeing "M/M" category books, not "MLM" or "queer". Because apparently that's an important distinction where books are concerned.

"INKED" by J.J. Jackalope out now!!
Have you guys considered what the world might've be like if sometime a century ago, people started being born with ink embedded into their skin, and powers at their fingertips? No? Well you should start, because I have the new-age queer book for you.
Think X-Men meets coming-of-age meets a bit of Percy Jackson action.
My goal is to give a sense of belong to anyone whose eyes grace my work. I know how important rep is to every minority and I want to do everything I can to give that representation.
Check out my website to learn more and buy!
Here's the book blurb :)
After being in online school for the last four years, Scottlin Vincino starts his Junior year at a new private boarding school an hour from home. It should have been similar to any other in-person school-- but alas, they had everything Scottlin didn’t.
A mark.
He'll have to keep it a secret, but it gets tricky when you have a knack for ending up in the infirmary… Whether it be for the hot boy you just met, or you're swept up in one of the freak accidents at the school that seem to just keep happening.
Scott will have to juggle his sexuality, his grades, and his new friends all while solving the mystery of what is happening to his new academy.

It’s so funny reading about queer male classic authors bc it seems like every single one of them-across continents even- knew each other by name. Like you’ll look up Bram Stoker or some shit and Wikipedia.org will say “had several orgies with Oscar Wilde and Walt Whitman, hung out with Alaina Locke in spare time to shit talk F. Scott. Fitzgerald” and you have to say well okie dokie then

Queer Reviews: Alexis Hall, "Glitterland" (Spires #1).
Tumblr media
CW: explicit sexual content, discussions of mental illness, unhealthy dynamics
Plot: Once the golden boy of the English literary scene, now a clinically depressed writer of pulp crime fiction, Ash Winters has given up on love, hope, happiness, and — most of all — himself. He lives his life between the cycles of his illness, haunted by the ghosts of other people’s expectations.
Then a chance encounter at a stag party throws him into the arms of Essex boy Darian Taylor, an aspiring model who lives in a world of hair gel, fake tans, and fashion shows. By his own admission, Darian isn’t the crispest lettuce in the fridge, but he cooks a mean cottage pie and makes Ash laugh, reminding him of what it’s like to step beyond the boundaries of anxiety.
But Ash has been living in his own shadow for so long that he can’t see past the glitter to the light. Can a man who doesn’t trust himself ever trust in happiness? And how can a man who doesn’t believe in happiness ever fight for his own?
7.5/10 on the Rainbow Scale™ 🌈: Alexis Hall seems to relish in making me care for assholes 😂 truly, there's something to be said for the way they write unlikable characters: their protagonists are deeply flawed and often make terrible choices, but somehow you still care about them and want them to do better. This was the case here: Ash is kind of a dick and there were times I wanted to throttle him and yell at him, but I also wanted him to get his shit together and be happy. His mental illness is never romanticized and it's never used as an excuse for his behaviour, he always has to face the consequences of his actions. This was an at times frustrating but still satisfying read.
