Thanks for your reply. And, yeah, I definitely agree that Robin is first and foremost Dick’s legacy, and that he chose Damian as his Robin for important reasons that he expresses to Tim later. And, his blessings to both Jason and Tim previously were also extremely important. But, I was thinking about it more in terms of how the transition was handled. I know that Jason and Dick, despite popular belief, had a decent relationship when he was Robin, but Dick didn’t react well initially because he had been completely blindsided by the news, nor had he given his consent. I thought that Alfred was sort of repeating Bruce’s mistakes here, so Tim might have been blindsided by it as well (not that I think he would’ve given his consent either way at that point). You saying that it was a crisis decision on Alfred’s part puts it in perspective though, and it makes sense since Alfred’s generally more sensitive than Bruce. I do think, though, that seeing Damian in a Robin suit (with Alfred’s blessing) would have probably made Tim realise that there was a real possibility that Damian could be Robin.
[referencing this response on how the transition from Tim to Damian as Robin was handled]
I think two things can be true: Tim would be blindsided and hurt by Dick's decision to make Damian Robin regardless of the circumstances, but it was particularly tough for him given the situation that it occurred in (the issue you're talking about and I mostly discussed in my original response), and it was the obvious decision to make based on where all three of those characters were in their character arcs.
Tim during the BFTC/early Reborn era honestly needs to be viewed in the context of him clearly being ready to take the same steps Dick took at his age to become an independent vigilante but wanting to cling to Robin because it was the only sense of stability he had in an incredibly unstable period of his life. Tim had been operating semi-independently for years and had just spent the entirety of Battle for the Cowl telling Dick that if he wouldn't put on the cowl Tim would do it himself…and then he actually did put on the cowl to go fight Jason. It's not like Tim wasn't signaling that he had moved beyond Robin's role as Batman's non-independent protege.
And Dick could see that, especially since Tim had already been the Robin to his Batman once, back in Prodigal. He genuinely meant it when he called Tim his "equal" in Red Robin #1, and I think that's important to understand where both of them are coming from.
Ultimately Tim's problems with Robin "being taken away from him" were not Dick's problems, and Tim's hostility and hurt comes from a fundamentally different place than Dick's did. Dick voluntarily gave up being Robin to become Nightwing, and the rocky transition from Dick to Jason was less about the mantle and more about Dick's personal insecurity about his place in the family and Bruce giving Jason Robin without his permission. Tim's place in the family was very solid during BftC and his RR #1 freakout was mostly about the perception that Dick was taking away his sole source of mental/life stability and choosing Damian (a potential hostile) over Tim to watch his back and keep him alive.
Dick's issues were about insecurity in the face of a father apparently replacing him with a new son and a new partner in his absence. Tim's issues were about feeling unmoored in the face of yet another loved one dying, his civilian life going up in flames (again) and being pushed out of a tenuous stability back into instability, and the percieved lack of trust in his ability to properly fill the role he was already occupying.
So honestly I think Tim's feelings on that transition need to be viewed as an entirely separate thing from how well or poorly the transition itself was handled, because I genuinely believe that Tim's reaction only was what it canonically was due to the unique intersections of events going on in Tim's personal life. Dick could have (and should have) handled the transition with more delicacy, but Tim was always going to react badly because of how hard he had been leaning on the mask to give him a sense of normalcy and balance. That's not really something Dick or Damian (or Alfred) could control, even though the transition itself was rockier than it could have been on their ends and poorly handled out-of universe.

We seen Bruce's reaction to jokerized!twin but what about the rest of the family? did Damien feel guilty knowing that he had a hand in this?
Definitely! Damian feels utterly at fault for his sibling ending up in the clutches of Joker, he’ll never forgive himself for pushing his twin to this point.
After his time with Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily, Dick especially, Damian has calmed down and changed from how he used to be, in particularly regarding his thoughts on his sibling. He’s been guilt ridden ever since he came to terms with how terribly cruel he was to them and obsessing over how he could make it right and mend things with his twin, finally becoming the brother he should have been to them from the very beginning. But he doesn’t know how to find them, how to reach out and apologize for everything he’s put them through. Last he knew they were in Gotham but that was some time ago and they weren’t on the best of terms then, not to mention they’re last interaction was brutal so who’s to say his sibling didn’t just leave town and start anew somewhere else. Somewhere better.
But that doesn’t keep Damian from keeping an eye out for them, whether while out on patrol or while going about his day to day outside of his vigilante duties, hoping one day he’ll be lucky enough to find them again. That is until he actually does come face to face with them once more.
When he does meet the Reader again Damian is frozen with shock. Not only are they with Harley and Joker but they two clowns are also referring to his sibling as their bby. It’s too much for Damian to process in the moment. At first, he assumes that Joker and Harley have brainwashed his sibling into playing house with them and taking on the role of their child, but then his sibling tells him themself that they weren’t wanted anywhere else but Joker happily took them in. It’s on that moment that Damian realizes just how much he’s fucked up and how horribly he has ruined his own flesh and blood.
He can’t bring himself to acknowledge what they’re saying is true though, there’s no way they came to Joker willingly and took part in becoming like him. There’s no way. He won’t accept that. He can’t accept it. He wholeheartedly is under the belief that his sibling is brainwashed and has been taken advantage of against their will to play a part in Joker’s delusional fucked up version of a family. This only fuels Damian’s hatred towards the Clown Prince all the more, he’s taken something away from him, something he hadn’t ever appreciated enough to take for granted. He’s only recently realized how much he messed up and now the very thing he’s been working towards fixing is now being broken down even more by a psychotic clown.
It takes a everything, mainly Bruce and what other family members are there, to keep Damian from killing Joker right then. It certainly doesn’t help that his very own sibling is protect Joker and Harley so no one can get a hit on them without severely hurting or killing the Reader in the process. Damian has to be forcefully restrained as Joker, Harley and his sibling make a getaway. No matter how hard he tries to break free to give chase to get his twin back, he’s held in place probably even knocked out and taken back to the manor so everyone can regroup and plan out how to handle this situation.
It was already hard enough seeing his sibling along side Joker to begin with but seeing their paper white skin and the crazed look in their eye after they’ve been christened in a chemical bath is too much for him. Especially, if he was forced to witness them being submerged into the chemical vat himself. Damian wouldn’t be the same after that. How could he be? He watched helplessly and uselessly while his sibling was turned into a version of one of the most deranged individuals he’s ever known. And he couldn’t do anything to stop it.
Damian would vow to save his sibling, both from Joker and from themself. He won’t give up on them, he can’t. They need him more than ever now and he’ll fight tooth and nail to bring them home where they belong, with him and their father (as well as the batfamily). Even if he has to break Bruce’s rules to do so. He has a lot to work toward with them, even more now than ever but he’ll make it happen. Damian will be there for them, he won’t stop until their safe and by his side where they should have been all along. He won’t let anything come between him getting his twin back, not even his own mother.

I think it’s so fundamentally telling of what sort of person Stephanie is when her reaction to Greta potentially being killed via 10,000 megawatts of electricity isn’t to be sad or devastated or beat herself up about it/ be disappointed in herself (like I think maybe Tim or Batman would be) it’s purely fear of punishment via Robin being angry at her. She did not care whether greta lived or died. She’s never been overly concerned with whether someone died or not and this has been a consistent characteristic of hers, but that’s usually only in reference to criminal characters who you could justify ‘had it coming’ and whatnot. This was just like. Greta read her diary? And Steph then tried to kill her for it? And did not feel any regret upon trying to do so? Tf??
You're not wrong, anon (aside from comedically exaggerating the voltage of a suburban powerline). I considered calling that out in the post and decided it was a tangent that would've distracted from the actual point, which wasn't so much "Yikes, Steph is an asshole" so much as it was, "And this is why you shouldn't always take characters at their word; with good writers, there's often a lot more going on when you pay attention."
Although looking back over the post now, I really have to wonder if the whole issue wasn't Peter David's way of, in part, criticizing how Chuck Dixon was handling the whole Steph-hunts-Tim's-secret-identity storyline.
Peter David is not shy or subtle about working his opinions into his comics, YJ especially, and he definitely knew where the story was going -- the last page of the issue, the one I didn't include on the post, includes a direct reference to the way the arc would soon end, with an editorial note pointing readers to Robin to find out more.
Throughout the fight Secret specifically calls Steph out on invading Robin's privacy multiple times; it lines up with the way David had, for example, negatively portrayed pair of sports hunters in issue #7, or how he wrote Cissie's "It was the guns you idiot" rant from issue #15. Whereas Steph's responses are mostly comments on the immediate situation and personal barbs that deepen Greta's arc, ie, the bit questioning whether she's even human.
And even though YJ was working with the exact same themes and narrative elements, there's never a comparative incident where a member of the team tries to learn Robin's identity behind his back. Again, despite the fact that Secret could do so easily, and despite all the tension the identity issue ultimately ends up causing on the team. Because even if they don't like that he's keeping secrets, they respect that they're his secrets to keep, and Stephanie doesn't. Or rather, Chuck Dixon doesn't, at least not when it comes to his precious pet character.
Heck, there's also the fact that the "lecture" Tim gives at the end, the one hinting towards the storyline's conclusion, hinges on how Batman and Robin is a relationship built on a bond of implicit trust... and how the relationship doesn't work if that trust is broken... and it's hinting at the end of a storyline in which that implicit trust is broken in a way that arguably took Bruce out of character and turns him into the bad guy while not only excusing Stephanie's behavior but rewarding her for it with her first round of actual Bat-training...
Of course, I have zero way of knowing what Peter David was thinking so this is 100% just my analysis but... I could see it. It's a way to professionally express his displeasure without publicly criticizing a colleague or sabotaging their plans. David's a good writer, I wouldn't put it past him.

Damian Wayne x Danny Fenton
Tumblr media
Damian had always been known for his fierce and sometimes brutal demeanour, often showing no mercy towards his enemies. However, in recent weeks, his behaviour had been noticeably different. He had gotten more relaxed, less prone to using his signature razor-sharp sword to solve problems.
The rest of the Bat family had noticed the change and were starting to get suspicious. They sat Damian down for a chat, and after some interrogation, Damian finally admitted it: he had a secret boyfriend.
"What!?" they all exclaimed in unison, shocked by the news.
Damian took a deep breath and finally revealed the identity of his secret lover - Danny Fenton.
The Bat family's reaction was mixed. Some, like dick, Cass, Stephanie and Tim were thrilled to hear that Damian had found someone he could open up to, while others- like Jason, duke and especially Bruce were worried about how Danny would handle the dangerous lifestyle of the superhero world. However, they all understood that love was something to be celebrated, and they were excited to meet Danny at dinner.
So the invitation went out, and Danny accepted with equal parts excitement and anxiety. He was excited to meet the Bat family and get to know Damian better, but he was also a little freaked out about having to navigate a world full of superheroes and villains.
Jason Todd, in particular, seemed to be taking an overly-protective attitude towards Danny. He constantly offered to serve Danny and get him whatever he needed, almost as if he was trying to make up for his past mistakes. Danny appreciated the gesture, but he also felt a little uneasy about having to be constantly catered to.
As dinner went on, Damian noticed that Danny was starting to look a little overwhelmed by the situation. He could sense his boyfriend's anxiety rising, and so he decided to take him outside to their peaceful garden to have a quiet talk.
"Hey, everything okay?" Damian asked, placing a comforting hand on Danny's shoulder.
Danny breathed deeply, trying to calm down. "Yeah, I'm just...this is all a lot to process. Your family is amazing, but it's also a little overwhelming."
Damian pulled Danny into his arms, nuzzling his face into his boyfriend's neck. "I get it. But don't worry, I'm not going to let anything happen to you. You're mine now, and I'll protect you with everything I have."
Danny blushed, feeling the warmth of Damian's body against his own. The quiet moment in the garden was exactly what he needed to calm his nerves. He buried his head into Damian's shoulder, taking a deep breath and allowing himself to fully relax in his boyfriend's arms.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Batfamily was watching the scene unfold from inside the house. They could sense the love and devotion between Damian and Danny, and they knew that the two of them were going to be a formidable team in the years to come.
The dinner table grew quiet as everyone reflected on the events that had just transpired. It had been a night full of surprises, but it had also been a night filled with love and acceptance. And that was something worth celebrating.

About writing a sequel for Sever the Blight (which was amazing to read btw) I feel like given proper warnings it should be fine?
Especially since the darker and/or uncomfortable themes are pretty common in Batman? Bruce has literally pushed his body to it‘s limits, dangerously so. He’s self-destructing. That‘s a big part of his character and background.
And in your story his decision to stop eating was very deliberate and pragmatic to him. (considering that he loves his sons, they were injured, still growing, etc., and they had no clue when/if help would arrive)
I would argue that most parents place their children‘s lives above their own.
You didn‘t give me the impression that you were promoting ED at all, especially since we had Clark‘s pov. We could clearly see how distressed he was at the situation and his own helplessness.
I could maybe see the issue if you had written it from Bruce‘s pov, downplaying and ignoring the effect starvation has on his body. Even listing all reasons why (to him) it‘s a reasonable/good/right thing to do while hiding it from his family.
But I feel you‘ve always handled the more difficult stories/plotlines really well? Especially when it comes to conflict in the Batfam, or within Bruce himself. Borderline being a wonderful example imo.
(You‘re actually my favorite Batman/Fam author because of how you write them all -I could honestly gush about it for hours- and their struggles without demonizing them)
Also, I would guess that a continuation would mostly deal with the aftermath? Specifically the road to recovery helped along by his family. Nothing that encourages ED.
Sorry if this is a rambly/annoying ask. just wanted to add my own opinion into the mix since I love your writing in general. To me, the characters make it clear when they make decisions due to an unhealthy mind-set.
I‘d be excited to see a (presumably) Batfam centric sequel of course! But no pressure :)
Thank you so much! I would love to write the sequel, absolutely. And I agree that the original fic didn’t promote ED tendencies, as much as is possible in a fic about starvation.
I think I just wasn’t prepared for the sudden flood of pro-ED comments and in my inbox and DMs. It was a lot to sift through mentally and it (briefly) turned me off the idea of writing more in this trope. I deleted some really concerning stuff.
I appreciate everyone’s support and confirmation that the tags and description weren’t harmful or triggering. I really do want to make sure readers have Bruce’s recovery — and the batkids’ reactions, which I think is the key/best part.

Your body feels almost... numb when you wake up. Under you feels like a mattress but the air feels so cold. Groggy from your rest, you try to regain your bearings.
It isn't until you see what looks like prison bars that you shoot up in your spot. Adrenaline wakes you up rather quickly as you tap around your body. You swore you had something to get you out of this situation that Bruce gave you... where even are you?
A sudden slam makes you jump with a strangled sound. Your eyes dart in the direction only to see a familiar man in a bat costume watching you. Confusion settles into your gut when you realize this is the Batcave.
Fear soon replaces it when you realize you've been stripped of your gadgets.
You and Bruce... The Batman, have always been closer than most. He's always been caring and protective. Especially when you two soon began a more intimate relationship with one another.
Such behavior only ever grew when the events leading up to Superman's Regime occurred. Maybe it shocked him into realizing how easy it was to lose you? Not long after he had lost Dick and Damian himself. You were not blind or deaf to the fact he murmured to himself often when he though you weren't listening.
You just thought you misheard him when he said he'd lock you away one day to keep you beside him.
Apparently not.
It was then panic and rage overtook you. You darted for the bars like a feral animal, eyes glaring at Bruce. He says nothing and only watches.
"Bruce, how could you!?" You scream at him. "You're crazy! You took my things and threw me in a cell like some prisoner!? What did I even do? Let me go!"
Bruce says nothing. He only looks past you to gaze at your cell. He checks around the walls slowly and carefully. At first you think he's ignoring you, but you quickly realize he's looking for imperfections.
"Come on, baby..." You plead, trying to change your tone. "I've told you over and over again I'd never leave you! I won't be like Damian. I'll never leave you as long as you let me out, please?"
"And let The Regime take you away from me? Never. Keeping you here will protect you under my care." Bruce shuts down your pleas quickly, his jaw tightening at the pet name you gave him. "This is to solidify our love...."
You could overlook his protective behavior in the beginning. You thought it was cute how Batman himself fretted over you like you would break at the slightest touch. Now this was too much, it was no longer cute...
You were now treated as a prisoner more than a partner.
"Is this what a normal relationship looks like to you?" You question. "You're supposed to trust me! You're supposed to respect the fact I can handle my own!"
Your seething only builds and builds. It gets to the point you're screaming at Bruce as you push against the bars. You aren't sure what you're more angry about. Your situation or the fact Bruce just stays silent as you scream at him.
Bruce understands your pain. He allows you to vent your feels at him if it makes you feel better. He had prepared for this... but he still found something deep within him aching at your outbursts. You looked like a wild animal barking and roaring at him as you thrash against the bars.
His only reaction is him clenching his jaw.
"Please... just listen to your partner!" You try to plead again. You try to calm yourself after your breakdown. In fact... you hope it helped convince Bruce of your concerns. You hope it showed him how wrong this is. You silently wait for an answer...
"My heart belongs to you, I'll adore anything you do to it."
Only to immediately regret it.
You feel yourself start screaming once again as Bruce turns away to face one of his many monitors. Frustration begins to tire you out once again as you feel it's the only way you can express yourself in this situation. You hate that Bruce decides to ignore you rather than facing the problem.
You don't even know how long it is before you're tired fully. By the end of it you're limp on the mattress of your cell. You're only left with the urge to sleep with tears sitting on the corners of your eyes.
You feel a gaze on your again and you know it's Bruce. Neither of you say anything but he stands up and sits by your cell again. You don't return his gaze and stare at the ceiling.
"I must know everything about you." Bruce says softly to your tired form. "The more I know, the better I can keep you safe."
You ignore him. You don't turn your attention away from the ceiling until Bruce turns to leave the room. Only then do you move to look at the door with a longing expression.
You wonder if you should have joined The Regime with Damian...
Maybe you could've kept your freedom then?

Hello! can I request being a batsis reader who's age is in middle of Jayson and Tim, wherein they went somewhere wearing high waist short shorts (because it's summer season), along with the boys (Including Bruce) and everyone is being overprotective towards her (as some guys hitting up with her and being catcalled) to the point that they banned her for wearing any short clothes...
Overprotective!Batfam x Reader Headcanons
Tumblr media

Masterlist Navigation
Dick Grayson
Tumblr media
• Dick would notice what you were wearing straight away, literally nothing gets passed him when it comes to you. He wouldn’t be happy about it, but would like to keep you happy as much as possible so he would only say something if he found it extremely terrible or revealing.
• He knows that in certain situations you can handle yourself, but he wouldn’t like you to. He doesn’t think you should have to fight and stand up for yourself when you’ve got him there to di a much better job with longer lasting effects.
• Dick would try to keep his “nice guy” persona going on for as long as possible while he’s out in public, but even he can only handle so much. If he really starts to feel extreme emotions the mask will slip and he’ll end up causing a lot of damage as a result.
• He finds catcalling itself entirely disrespectful especially if the situation is uncalled for, although he is aware that some people like the attention. For you however, he doesn’t want anything of that sort happening around you and will be strict about it if he thinks it might happen.
• If things like this do happen then he can’t help himself but want to put precautions in place, especially if he can’t be with you everywhere you go. So he puts rules in place and he won’t have any problem with you going out as long as you’d tick to them and do as he says.
Jason Todd
Tumblr media
• No matter how old you are Jason will always be there to be protect you, but if you’re younger than him then he’ll definitely be much more protective over you. He’s been furious that someone was behaving in that way towards you, so don’t expect him to be able to control himself when he is already a short fuse waiting to blow up.
• Jason wouldn’t even want to think of you handling yourself against someone making a comment about you out in public. It’s his job to look after you and stop anything bad from happening so you definitely wouldn’t find him trying to do any less, and if that does happen then you’ll never see him more furious with himself.
• It will never matter how many people were around or how well he knew them, Jason would never care about causing a CV scene or being embarrassed. For you this doesn’t matter at all and him dealing with someone is much more important than him caring about meaningless onlookers.
• The idea of anyone being catcalled sparks violence in Jason’s mind as he’s aware of what else people are capable of, but if it’s you being targeted then he’s absolutely furious. He’s unable to hold himself back and will keep whoever did it in their place (it doesn’t matter if it’s a man or woman, they all deserve to be treated the same in these situations).
• Jason keeps revealing clothing to himself and you’ll usually find him covered up when he’s out in public, and he’d usually prefer for you to do the same. Just because he likes to show you off doesn’t mean he wants everyone to see your body - so if you do like revealing clothing he’ll try his best to discourage it.
Tim Drake
Tumblr media
• Tim’s first reaction would be a mixture of many feelings, and he wouldn’t really know whether to shout and beat the people up that are catcalling you, or to get quiet revenge later on. Either way he doesn’t want you to end up scared because of the behaviour you’re seeing.
• He doesn’t like the thought of you handling yourself so he wouldn’t even let you be put in that position. He’s basically with you at all times so there’s no need for you to ever need to, and just because you can handle yourself doesn’t mean he’ll allow it.
• Tim always tries to stay calm and collected when he’s out in B public and when others are around, but when he’s with those he’s close to and in private he can really be himself. His vindictive views can come to light and just as long as you aren’t around he’s free to get revenge on those treating you badly.
• Tim is a very sweet guy so he doesn’t really understand why catcalling is even a common thing for anyone to do. He definitely isn’t a supporter of it and will defend anyone from it (but for you it will obviously go to more extreme lengths).
• Tim likes when you wear revealing clothing, but mainly just so long as it’s for him only. He wouldn’t blame you for being catcalled and would be very angry at those who did it, but he also wouldn’t understand why you went out without covering yourself properly - especially if you aren’t walking around the safest areas.
Damian Wayne
Tumblr media
• There would be no holding Damian back of her ever saw or heard of this happening to you, he’s too unable of controlling his need to put disgusting people in their rightful place. Whoever catcalled you certainly would be too scared of ever doing it again once he’s finished with them.
• Damian is well aware of how strong he is, and because of this he wouldn’t consider you being able to handle yourself properly. If it was someone who was a villain or criminal that had catcalled you he knows that you probably wouldn’t end up in a good situation so he always wants to be the one there to deal with the situation.
• Being in public never influences Damian to calm down, unless you’re there to ease him out of the manic episode he’s been induced into. He’d butcher and hunt down anyone no matter the time of day or whose around in order to sort out what they’ve just done.
• By itself Damian thinks catcalling is very distasteful and rude no matter who it is doing it and who it’s directed at. Plus, the living situation he’s had taught him not to put up with this type of behaviour so he certainly wouldn’t be able to tolerate it from anyone he’s around.
• Damian doesn’t like revealing clothing on you at all and he thinks that it’s a stupid way to dress considering how dangerous the city is. If you’re going to go out you could at least put in some precautions of making yourself less noticeable, or at least that’s what he wants you to do as he does this as well to prevent drawing attention.
Bruce Wayne
Tumblr media
• You being catcalled would force Bruce to fight his own inner demons regarding water to do with the person that catcalled you. No matter how meaningless or severe it was he’d still have a hard time dealing with it.
• Bruce would be okay with the thought of you handling yourself in that situation just as long as he got to serve his own form of justice too. This would usually consist of a longer lasting punishment and reminder of how not to treat people like you.
• Being in public definitely influences Bruce as he has an image to uphold and facade to keep up, but when he’s in his vigilante form his much free to do as he pleases. It’s at night and during the hours of justice serving that he gets back at whoever treated you in such a way.
• Bruce can never agree with catcalling no matter how minor, to him it will always represent what a person is really like. Things like catcalling typically happen more in certain areas so he’ll certainly try to keep you away from there to the best of his ability.
• Even the slightest bit of skin being revealed would be something that Bruce likes to keep reserved for in private or events where he gets to show you off in a restricted setting (like a part of his where the people invited are only those he knows personally). He doesn’t like the idea of others looking at you in such a way, especially when he knows that their intentions are terrible in some cases.

Superbat: Safe Flight
Alternative title: another bridal carry fic, how original
Hi, this is for that sweet anon, who wanted more angry bridal carry Bruce. Enjoy! <3
“Don’t,” Bruce mutters.
“I didn’t say anything,” Clark says, despite his entire frame shaking with suppressed laughter.
“I can feel you laughing.”
“It’s not my fault you’re so close,” Clark singsongs as he tightens his arms. He’s enjoying his win way too much.
“Then carry me some other way,” Bruce demands. He squirms around in Clark’s arms but there’s no way for him to move around much in this position.
“I thought we concluded this was the most efficient way to carry you,” Clark says and he’s doing that thing with his eyes where you know he’s being earnest and truthful and Bruce wants him to drop him so he can fall to his death.
Bruce harrumphs which is enough to let Clark know he’s won. At least it’s usually enough to have him end the conversation, but not today, of course not. Why make it any easier on Bruce than he absolutely has to? Clark needs to take things just a little further.
“At least I covered you with my cape,” he says helpfully.
Like that’s any comfort.
“Why you do that, I have no idea,” Bruce mutters. It’s not like Clark has to wrap people in his cape. Bruce doesn’t do that whenever he saves someone. There are other ways to make sure people are kept safe. Shields for example or any other type of weapon or gear. Or in this particular case Clark could simply fly backwards.
“It’s to protect you from the wind,” Clark explains like Bruce isn’t already aware of this fact.
“I have my own cape, Kal,” he says, because he has to say something. He knows he’s just being difficult, but he isn’t happy with this situation, not at all. There’s a reason he usually says no to Clark.
“Well, mine is prettier.” Bruce let’s out another grunt and Clark grins like he just won a particularly amazing contest. “Red looks really good on you.”
“Shut up,” Bruce mumbles and crosses his arms tighter over his chest. There’s no need for it – he’s wrapped in Clark’s cape after all – but the movement makes him feel better. He’s physically telling Clark this isn’t alright with him which is the entire point.
He should’ve said no. He should’ve insisted, actually, but he doesn’t have the batwing nearby and he still hasn’t installed any type of wings into his suit. It’s an error he’ll rectify as soon as he’s home; there’s no way he’s letting Clark carry him home like this ever again.
It’s not even like he can blame Clark; Bruce did sort of willingly let him carry him home. Usually, he’d never approve such a humiliating scenario unless extremely necessary to his own survival but today’s different. Today he’s late for an event and even if he could magically find a way to the gala and get his hands on a proper suit, he’s soaking wet. Aquaman better handle the rest of the flooding or Bruce will be so pissed. He nearly drowned! There’s no way he’s going to let Arthur live that down. Stupid unreliable water-powers.
Either way Bruce has accepted a ride from Clark, and they did agree that this was the least humiliating way for them to travel. Now that he’s squished up against Clark’s chest Bruce is starting to second-guess their decision though. Clark’s heart is steady, his chest broad and warm and Bruce is terrifyingly aware of how easy it would be to settle against him and doze off. He blames this week’s lack of sleep for his thoughts.
“It’s still a long way home,” Clark comments like he’s been reading Bruce’s mind. “You can relax, you know?”
“I am relaxed.”
“My neck hurts just looking at you,” he tries. It’s a semi-successful strategy; Bruce is much more inquired to listen if it’s about someone else’s discomfort. Not today though.
“Look away then,” he says and turns his head away. Just because he’s stuck against Clark’s chest doesn’t mean he has to look at his face. His very attractive, very close face. God, if he didn’t have such extreme control over every single physical reaction of his body, he might’ve done something stupid. Like press his cheek against Clark’s shoulder. Or tilt his head up enough that he could reach Clark’s lips with his own and- nope, not going there. Lack of sleep is horrible for the brain, Bruce’s even more so.
“Bruce,” Clark says and there’s a scolding tone to his voice. It’s his ‘I wish you would just listen to me, it’s for your own good’ voice. He uses it more with Bruce than anyone else on the team.
“What.” Bruce still doesn’t look at him. There is a good chance he’ll feel those pesky butterflies in his stomach if he looks into Clark’s eyes right now. He’s not a teenager, this isn’t a silly crush. There’s no reason for butterflies, yet he still hasn’t found a way to get rid of them. In fact, they only seem to increase the more time he spends with Clark. Which is a lot. They are teammates, after all.
“We’re several hundred feet in the air,” Clark points out. He’s stopped trying to catch Bruce’s eyes at least.
“I’m aware,” Bruce says.
“There’s nobody else around,” Clark continues.
“I know.”
“I’m holding you in my arms,” he says, and Bruce wants to roll out of said arms and fall all those hundred feet just so he doesn’t have to be a part of this conversation. It’s almost like Clark is trying to get Bruce to confess. All that’s left is candles and soft music and it’d be as perfect as it gets.
“Yes,” he says instead of voicing any of his panic.
“The least you could do is try to enjoy it,” Clark says.
See that’s the problem right there. It would be way too easy to enjoy this, to get used to it. To accept Clark’s offer once or twice and then suddenly every other time he asks. Soon Bruce will start expecting Clark to fly him home and then he’ll start to offer Clark a cup of coffee before he leaves. Clark will be too polite to refuse, and Bruce will get used to his company. Will crave it and miss it. Miss him.
There is absolutely no reason for Bruce to kickstart the process his feelings are already doing their very best to never let him forget.
“Enjoy being suspended in the air?” In your strong arms, so close to you that I can feel the heat of your body, the strong beat of your heart. “Sure thing, Kal. I’ll get right on that.”
“You don’t have to put up a front, Bruce,” Clark sighs. “I know you’re exhausted. I can feel it in your entire body.”
“Don’t do that,” Bruce says gruffly.
“Do what?”
“Don’t… read me.” It makes it seem like you care about me. “It’s creepy.”
“I’m sorry,” Clark says quietly. “I’m just worried about you.”
“I’m fine.” He really is. Or at least he will be, as soon as he’s back on the ground on his own two feet.
He’s been getting more and more obsessed with these thoughts of Clark recently and he knows it’s only a matter of time before he says or does something stupid. Confessing is out of the question – there’s no way he’ll ever risk losing Clark’s friendship because of some foolish feelings – and it’s not like he can actually decide when he sees Clark. They work together, they’re the founders of the League. They have a responsibility to the team and each other. Not even the minimal possibility of Clark not rejecting him is worth jeopardizing that.
There are a few moments of silence before Bruce realizes that Clark hasn’t said anything back. He doesn’t usually give up this easily, but perhaps they’re both a little off today. He dares a glance towards Clark’s face and ignores the soaring of wings in his stomach. Clark is looking straight ahead, his mouth set in a tight line.
Oh. He’s upset.
Rightfully so if Bruce is really honest with himself. He’s being carried several hundred miles home – superstrength or not, Clark is carrying his full weight and flying slow enough that the wind won’t hurt Bruce at all. He’s wrapped Bruce in his cape, he’s trying to take care of him in his own way.
And Bruce… Bruce is too caught up in his own stupid feelings to make even the smallest of efforts. If he wasn’t well in his thirties, he might’ve just ignored it and pretended not to notice (youth is a strong, although shitty, excuse), but this is Clark. Sweet, caring Clark, who would move literal mountains for Bruce if he asked.
Bruce squirms around some more; he really can’t move around well when he’s burrito’ed into Clark’s cape. He wiggles his shoulders around so much that Clark stops in the middle of the sky.
“Are you uncomfortable?” he asks, because of course he does. He can’t ever not be nice and caring. Which is probably why Bruce likes him so much.
“No,” Bruce says softly and decides to hell with it. He flops his face onto Clark’s shoulder and nuzzles at it. He is reminded of Selina’s cats but tries not to think too much of it. “Sorry for being… like that.” It sounds better than ‘an asshole’ but somehow loses some of its strength. It’s better than nothing though.
“You’re like that a lot these days,” Clark says carefully. He starts flying again. “Are you sure you’re alright?”
“Yes,” Bruce says and then because he can’t keep pushing everything away: “Just a lot on my mind.”
“You can talk to me; you know that right?”
“You make that abundantly clear.” It’s supposed to come out sharp and a little sarcastic, but instead it just sounds soft and grateful, which… isn’t too bad, Bruce supposes.
“I’m going to keep reminding you though,” Clark says, and Bruce can tell by the movement of his chin that he’s smiling again. Good.
“I know.”
Flying Air Superman is much faster than any other type of transportation and within the hour Clark sets Bruce down on the manor’s grounds, very aware of not being visible from outside the fence surrounding the entire property. Or, well, he tries to set Bruce down. Getting unwrapped from the cape is a little tricky. While Bruce prides himself on being rather elegant in most cases, not even Batman can get unwrapped from a giant piece of fabric while being put on the ground without stumbling a little. Cue Clark’s very capable hands grabbing his elbow and making sure he doesn’t fall flat on his face.
While Bruce is grateful, he’s also acutely aware of how close Clark is. Somehow, it’s worse (better?) than when Bruce was pressed against his chest. This feels much more insistent than simply being in Clark’s arms. Bruce takes a small step back, proving to both himself and Clark that he can indeed stand on his own two legs, contrary to what his little side-step-dancing just showed. He finally untangles himself from Clark’s cape, pushing the fabric off his shoulders before handing it to Clark.
“Red really does suit you,” Clark says fondly before he clasps it onto his shoulders again. It’s a design he’s gotten from Bruce’s cape – very neat to be able to detach the thing in emergencies. Or if you want to wrap your best friend in it.
“Shut up,” Bruce echoes his earlier response, although his words are much less sharp this time around. It’s clear that Clark notices because his smile grows even if he doesn’t say anything.
Bruce looks towards the door. He’s still in the suit but it’s still early evening. He has a few hours to kill before he has patrol. He could go for a cup of tea in the study.
Don’t invite him in, don’t invite him in, don’t offer him a cup of-
“I was going to have a cup of tea,” Bruce says and doesn’t bite his own tongue off, despite his inherent need to do so. “If you’d like one?”
“Oh, yeah, that-” Clark starts and then promptly stops. He tilts his head just slightly to the side, but Bruce knows that look. Has seen it more times than he can count.
“Emergency?” he asks.
“A fire in Australia,” Clark says. He sounds sorry.
“Go,” Bruce says with a flip of his wrist. Clark looks like he wants to say something but then closes his mouth and nods before taking off. Bruce sighs. Better this way; he’s pretty sure his lack of sleep might’ve turned into a lack of brain-to-mouth filter.
He’s still going to sit down for a cup of tea. First, he has to change though. Clark’s cape might have kept him fairly warm but the evening winds of Gotham are unforgiving and he hurries inside.
Later that evening when he’s nestled in his favorite chair with a steaming cup of tea in his hands Bruce gets a text – and he usually doesn’t text with anyone but his kids these days, so he’s surprised to find it’s from Clark.
Would love a cup of tea next time. Are you free tomorrow? :)
Bruce smiles softly and for once doesn’t curse the butterflies in his stomach. It’ll be okay, it’s just a cup of tea. What could happen from a cup of tea?

still thinking about (always fucking thinking about) what i posted here, on mia's explicit on-page murder vs. jason and felipe and how it's treated both by ollie and bruce respectively, and also by their respective *narratives*.
one of the things i loved about winicks ga/ga&bc run in general was like. it was so uninterested in punishment. when someone did something harmful the emphasis was on the consequences--material and emotional--rather than issues of Right vs Wrong. it focused on who was hurt, where to go from there, how to fix it, and i found that especially when it came to mia killing.
because the reaction is so compassionate to her. like, no one is like shaking their finger at mia like You Did A Bad Thing, it's like ollie and dinah *both* immediately are horrified by the fact that she's going to have to live with this for the rest of her life and moreover that ollie put her in that position in the first place.
Tumblr media
i already posted these panels but. look again.
and mia and jason as characters were in conversation with each other from the instant mia started being built up to be the 2nd speedy--the same way roy and dick were always in conversation with each other (because everyone knows the REAL second robin was the first speedy). and doubly so when winick took over and tweaked her backstory so she was also homeless. (gonna make a post on the HIV development at some point and how starlin openly talked about wanting to give robin AIDS...)
but like. look
Tumblr media Tumblr media
vs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Jason* couldn't handle it so now *i* can't keep him as my partner compared to. the blame falling directly, and rightly, on ollie for putting mia in that position in the first place... *and* this is the arc preceding the one where mia actually takes the speedy mantle! she wasn't speedy yet! she killed someone on her test run! and she still becomes speedy! and she does a fucking phenomenal job as speedy! tied for first fucking place if you ask me and roys my most favoritest and specialest guy!
and like. god. they don't linger on whether or not mia was wrong to kill that man. ollie clearly thinks there was another way, but he's not going to drill that into mias head, unlike someone else we could name, *bruce.*
Tumblr media
"consequences, robin, such as me accidentally crushing a man to death by climbing a teetering stack of cars like a moron. for some reason i am heavily implying that this is your fault."
like ... come *on.*
Tumblr media
and yknow. a lot of this is just that starlin was a fucking hack. but what we have here is still that bruce would rather bash jason over the head with moral lessons than ever give more than a cursory consideration to how hes fucking feeling.
(which is also, btw, such a stark change from how bruce still was in the contemporaneous tec run or even the batman run directly preceding it where when bruce screws up by not telling jason willis was (probably) dead, he admits he screwed up and apologizes. like, its such a tangible, jarring shift from bruce being a flawed but loving dad into whatever the hell this is. --lets not start on wolfman here because he did a better job than starlin, not that thats a high bar. im not opposed to the bad mentor/dad bruce character development *in principle*, its about the execution.)
but yeah, like, just the way like... its about who put mia in that situation. its about how jason just wasn't good enough. its about how mia gets to keep trying to be a hero. its about how jason is benched (<- he was supposed to stay home in 425; officially benched in 426). its about how it didn't matter whether or not jason killed felipe, because jason "couldn't handle it." its about how it mattered that mia killed someone, because she shouldn't have ever been put in a situation where she felt like she had to.
the discourse about ga 69-72 is always so tedious and always so thoroughly misses the damb point. but putting aside the whole like yes yes naughty jason he shouldn't have done it or at least shouldn't have done it like he did it--namely scaring the ever-loving crap out of her--what happened was jason came to her while she was in uniform (<- NOT EVEN KNOWING ABOUT THE MURDER!! HE DIDNT EVEN KNOW!!!) and among other things that was him going, i'm like you, what happened to me could happen to you, and she said i'm nothing like you and it won't, and he said, are you sure.
but when it comes down to it if mia died and came back and set up an elaborate murderous rube goldberg machine scheme to get to ollie it wouldn't work because the first damn thing ollie would do when he saw her would be to give her a famous arrowfam hug and blubber all over her. and. i mean. come on, the jokers ass would be grass, you know it i know it, ollie would have rather caused a diplomatic incident or whatever the fuck than let the man who killed his kid live. (<- i say kid over daughter deliberately btw. genuinely don't think mia was in the market for another dad after the first one. ollies still her family, shes still his kid, thats how it is. i probably wouldn't be so inflexible about this if fandom wasnt fucking obnoxious about insisting that she *is* and *must be* his daughter, but they are so i am.)
anywayyyyyyyy speedy sweep! wahoo

(different anon) i appreciate u mentioning the context from our world aka the editorial’s decision behind dick going to college thing. like, regardless of the, whats the word, questionable?? handling of bruce & dick character in old or golden/silver/bronze comics, the fact remains that 1) the dick going to college stuff was caused by homophobic panic -> led to decisions (which i wont list one by one and it can be easily browsed on the internet) and 2) that the handling affected people’s perception of the characters, which circled back again to number 1 aka it affected the editorials’ decisions
YES!!!! You're so right!
The worst part is I loved Dick and Bruce's relationship in the medal ages. The way they interacted was so natural and fluid and it may have seemed weird but honestly it was just sweet and endearing!
When they redid everything, they couldn't properly distance the two of them because they were so intertwined. And since Dick obviously wouldn't be an asshole (since it goes against his whole persona), it had to be Bruce who initially started off as a lone avenger. This was also easier to do because Bruce was constantly worried Dick was too young in the comics so the editors played it up and started having Bruce act arrogant to Dick which made it a part of his personality. This is the Bruce we know now-an angry, controlling asshole who only expresses that he loves his children when he thinks they're dead.
They messed up so badly that writers are STILL trying to figure out how to write Dick. Most of them got it right. Some of them should find a new career.
I miss what they used to be written as and I miss when Bruce openly showed emotion. Even Alfred wasn't just a stoic butler.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fan reaction and editorial response led to a horrible rabbit hole which leads to now where DC is frantically retconning everything to make Bruce not seem terrible.
Additionally, I know we're talking about Dick and Bruce but this also is the exact same situation that led to the split of Kory and Dick. Kory and Dick actually used to be almost the number one comic book pairing in the late 20th century. They were so popular that in the 1990s, they were considered the Peter/Mary Jane of DC. Their relationship was the epitome of grand, sweeping romances equivalent to dramatic balcony love stories and legendary greek myths. Readers loved them.
But if they were so popular, why did they split?
Because of the editors of course!
The Batman office really wanted Dick back so they took him away from the Titans office. But the problem is they ripped Dick away from Kory without producing a proper backstory for either of them, especially her. They then continued writing comics that degraded Kory and Dick's relationship into a lust filled romance in order to promote Barbara as Dick's true love.
Other writers for comics more recently continued diminishing the original pairing to support their own agenda or included it to support it.
HOW CAN YOU BALDLY CALL THIS LUST:
Tumblr media
Anyway, the Dickbabs was well received which led to a strong divide between fans in Dickkori and Dickbabs. In return DC started altering between different stories based on fans' interest which led to a confusing mess and inconsistent timeline where Dick is torn between multiple love interests. Which is why they would characterize Dick incorrectly or break things off abruptly so he could more easily be torn from the lover he was with to the one of their choice. *cough* Bea/Helena/Shawn/Bridget (especially) *cough*
While I don't like the back and forth, as a Dick Grayson multishipper, I can say I greatly benefitted from it 😅

You mentioned in one of your tags that you'd like to write a fic where the batkids find out Alfred wasn't so awesome a parent to Bruce and I wanted to ask if you'd like to share some ideas and directions where you could imagine it going?
Would it change the way the kids think and act around Alfred? Or Bruce? And what are some Major Mistakes Alfred made that in retrospect make a lot of sense regarding Bruce's parenting? And what sent the boulder of realisation going in the first place?
I know it sounds like I'm asking for spoilers or the actual, complete plotline which you probably haven't thought out yet, but I'm just curious about various versions of situations and realisations you think could happen. Or things that you'd like to work into your fic but it just wouldn't fit.
Basically, I love your writing and I love this kind of DramaTM within the Batfam and I'd cherish any crumb of information you would like to share.
Thank you and have a wonderful day! <3
Ok so this premise does rely on good dad Bruce, not because shitty parents cant come from shitty parents (they do, usually) but because i think seeing Bruce not do the things Alfred does would be how the kids (specifically Dick) realize what kind of parent Alfred is.
And this is really a reaction to the “Alfred is a saint for putting up with Bruce” fandom attitude because if you, as a parent or a guardian, are incapable of parenting a kid, no matter how difficult that kid is, it is your responsibility to either find a way to become what your kid needs or find someone who can. I know a lot of us had shitty parents but a traumatized nine year old shouldnt be “put up with” or “handled” they should be parented. At the very least they should be loved, and they should know they are loved. (Gets off parenting soapbox, climbs onto fandom soapbox)
Also every time i think about this fic i start thinking “maybe Alfred deserves some more grace” because he was put in a pretty impossible situation immediately after losing two people he deeply respected, if not loved, and lets be reasonable the 80-90s were uh, not an ideal time for difficult parenting, and the therapy available for children back then would have probably made things worse if not outright given Bruce ptsd (if he didnt already have that), so theres that. On the other hand, Alfred is also fairly consistently shown as being deeply unkind about idiosyncrasies, and unwilling to admit when he’s wrong.
And theres only so many times you can call your adult child an idiot, and imply that you believe every one of their choices to be invalid or wrong, before it turns out that you are Part of The Problem, or at the very least, A Bitch.
Anyways.
The thing is, i dont think it would change much. I think they might stop taking Alfreds word as gospel, especially in regards to Bruce, and i think they might be more forgiving towards Bruce when he messes up in the long term, but the truth is that whats it going to change? How do you apologize to someone for that? What are you apologizing for?
Because ultimately i dont think Bruce is ready to admit that Alfred is, or was, wrong. Bruce knows he was a bad kid, a difficult kid. His teachers and his family and the newspapers, and even Alfred, have admitted that Bruce was a hard kid to raise. Probably harder to love. He’s never surprised when people leave him, after all.
He does know his own kids don’t deserve that style of parenting though. But thats because they’re better than him. He has to do better because they deserve better, because he chose to be there for them. Alfred never really got that choice, did he? Bruce’s parents trusted Alfred, and Alfred stayed out of his respect for them. Not the bratty kid who cried for a year and refused to speak and would hide under the bed instead of sleep.
And thats another thing - if Bruce admits that Alfred wasnt a good parent, if he admits that Alfred made some terrible mistakes, does that mean he’s betraying the trust his parents placed in him? Is he casting blame onto two people he can only idolize, because to do otherwise is to admit he doesn’t remember much of them anymore?
As for how the kids find out, i think Dick realized in his own. I think Jason realizes because Dick stops him from walking in and interrupting a conversation between the two and before he can ask whats going on he hears Alfred slap Bruce. Im not sure about the rest.
*i started answering this, got distracted, finished writing it in my head, and then forgot i never answered it in reality. But i think thats most of what i wanted to say.

Strange Nights | Vampire! Dr Strange x Y/n
Logline: After Y/N gets imprinted by a vampire Dr Strange, living under a fictive identity, they must unravel the cause behind her constant misadventures before their hopes are crushed forever.
Masterlist
Chapter 2 : House of Wolves
Tumblr media
"Fine," Rachael said placidly when asked to take Y/N out to Ridge point.
'Go out with the Bartons to the river. Surely she'll enjoy swimming across the river.' Rachael felt Mathew was getting on her nerves better than Y/N. What was the need to be so nice to her? Y/N losing what rightfully never belonged to her didn't seem unfair to Rachael.
It was humanitarian to have her as they were her only surviving relatives but forgetting and forgiving her and Uncle Charles for everything was something she wasn't going to do like her dad.
"Well, good luck," Mathew said to Y/N as she headed for the stairs. "Say my 'Hi' to Clint," he added over his shoulder before leaving for the Police Department in Concrete.
Waiting on the couch as Y/N got ready, Rachael thought of her father's plea, 'Get along with her for my sake or rather for Jane's sake'. She eyed her sister skipping down the stairs. She might try for her dead mother's sake. A maroon turtle neck with denim looked rationale for any I-am-not-fond-of-cold type of person but the black jacket gave the outfit the look of a biohazard suit.
"Is it too much?" Y/N asked when she saw being gazed at with criticism.
"Maybe," Rachael replied, biting her cheeks to avoid erupting with laughter.
Rachael felt the peaceful silence was going to be interrupted when they passed the house of vampires. Y/N opened her mouth to ask something. But then she decided against it and once again turned away towards the window. Maybe she was wondering who the hell stayed away from civilization. Their house was pretty at the end of the locality. But the vampires stayed further away yet not too away for reasons known.
While she drove, she got a little bit worried about Bucky's reaction to seeing her sister. He wasn't quite happy when Jade became friends with her. He was reserved, fit to be the serious leader of the pack. A tiny part of her hoped that Steve hadn't left for the police department. He always handled situations better than anyone in the family. And Nat would surely be pleased to see Y/N.
The Barton's house was vaguely similar to the Langs. The tiny house that once had been grey had one narrow window beside the weathered blue door. But the French window box on the left side of the house filled it with a rich forest smell and the delightful chirping of the bird, making the place cheerful.
The drizzling had stopped by the time they reached the Bartons. The familiar head of Jade popped near the window when Rachael pulled up beside the driveway. With Y/N on her trail, Rachael headed for the side door, unlike the front door. Bucky was near the edge of the woods, axing trees. She glanced over her shoulder to watch Y/N flush like a tomato at the sight of the most attractive alpha of the pack. All of her being prayed for him not to imprint on her. She was going to lose her mind if Y/N invaded this family of hers.
Jade pulled her in his wolfy hug when they reached the terrace. Clint shot up from his medical bed at the commotion of their arrival.
"Dad sent his 'Hi'. How's your broken leg by the way?"
"Better. But two more weeks is what Dr Bruce says before I can go back to woods and my hunting trips." He said with a sad undertone. She nodded, waving at Steve and Nat.
"You have grown quite big," Rachael remarked as she waved at the pregnant Betty.
"We are three months due." She said, rubbing her round stomach.
"Is that little Betty or little Bruce?"
"We kept that for surprise," she answered, grinning and Nat frowned. Nat didn't like surprises unless she is a part of them.
"Where are Lila, Cooper, and Nathaniel?"
"Lila is at the Langs with Cassie. Cooper is with Bucky and Nathaniel.....," Nat trailed off, her eyes searching for him around the house and the near woods.
"Jade," she called out in a worried voice.
Jade was busy gossiping or trying to gossip with the shy Y/N. He shot his head in their direction after his name was called out. Rachael wondered whether finally Y/n had felt overdressed in front of the shirtless boys or tank-top-wearing Nat and had removed the jacket.
"What is it, mom?"
"Where's Nathaniel?"
He shrugged his shoulders at his adoptive mother.
"Must be by the river," Steve answered, loading his shotgun.
"Jade, why don't you take Y/N and Rachael with you and go to Ridge point," Nat said.
"Take Bucky and Cooper too. If he isn't there, they can go search for him elsewhere. Not a good time to loiter all alone." Steve added. Not a good time to loiter all alone was Steve's way of warning them of other packs in the town.
When they were about to leave with Steve, Natasha insisted on they stay back a little and try her muffins.
Y/N was nervous all the time she had been in the house. She wondered if the town was filled with such close-knit families. It wasn't like hers had been distant. It was well, Charles and Jane were always busy and she was sort of left out, not isolated, just left to her thoughts. It would be like the three of them would be in the same room yet in their own world. And when Nat talked about the New York floods, she felt they had not always been so distant. Once upon a time they were closely knit too.
"The men didn't take a ride or anything," Y/n asked, confused to see the jeeps lying idle, as they were upon their arrival.
Rachael considered whether she should tell Y/N about the werewolf side of her boyfriend and his family or simply make any vague excuse. She chose the latter option since it seemed less complicated and non - explainable. "They like to be on foot."
Watching Y/N gawking at a bunch of muscular men and women far ahead of them Rachael introduced everyone from the beginning.
"The house we went to was of Clint, the injured one. The pregnant woman was Betty Barton, married to Dr Bruce Barton, whom you haven't met. The one who asked about you and left before the boys, is dad's friend and colleague, Deputy Steve and the woman who talked to you was Natasha. Jade, my boyfriend is Nat and Steve's adoptive son. The brunette girl over there is Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott and Hope. Beside her are Nathaniel, Cooper and Lila; they are Clint's children. And the tallest one, the one who was with the axe in the woods, that's James Buchanan."
Y/N nodded, trying to remember all the new faces and their names.
After they walked along the river banks for a while, some of them went swimming. Sitting on the river bank and trying to make a conversation, an art she hardly excelled at, with five strangers, her nervous wandering eyes caught sight of another group of strangers on the opposite bank. Group- for they looked not too familiar to be a family. There were five of them - two of them had just got out of the water and were drying themselves, and the rest three were sitting idle. Beside them lay an untouched basket of fruits and loaves of bread.
None of them looked alike. Except for being lean and pale. Though one of the men was big-muscled like a serious weight lifter, with dark spiky hair. The blond and the blonde were staring now in her direction. The last ones, a boy and a girl were small with untidy, wet bronze hair. They looked more childish than the rest of them.
Her attention was withdrawn from them, back to the company of her set of strangers by a deep, passionate, silvery voice.
"Hello."
She shifted her position to face her speaker.
"Hi."
"I am James Buchanan. But you can call me Bucky. Didn't get a chance to introduce myself back at home," he said, grinning.
"Oh. It's okay." She felt it wouldn't be quite difficult to not lose oneself in his deep oceanic orbs.
"err, I'm Y/n Henley," she replied, embarrassed that she was to be mistaken as either too mesmerised to introduce herself or lost examining some strangers.
"You are Mathew's...?"
"Niece/Half daughter."
He furrowed his brows in confusion and then nodded.
"Umm, who are the ones on the other side of the bank?"
He, squinting his eyes, frowned, "I don't see anyone. There's no one here, other than us."
Y/N turned her neck, to check the bank over her back. They were not there. The spot that was occupied by them just a minute or two ago was empty. They had vanished into thin air. It was quite strange. Who could wrap up their picnic so fast?
Splash. Water had been spilt across Bucky.
Everyone was laughing their asses off - Rachael and Jade, sitting a little away from us with their legs dangling in the river, had their hands clutched to their stomach; so were the others who were in the river. Bucky was glaring at the boy, whom she believed to be Cooper, who had a small cracked earthen pot in his hand. The probable vessel using which he had managed to spill.
If looks could kill, Bucky would have surely killed Cooper by now. But she had to admit, the drenched man was a sight to behold - the fierce ocean in his eyes, the soaked fabric clinging to his torso in all the right places - made him devilishly handsome.
She bit her cheeks to stop the laughter when he clenched his fists. It looked as if in an instant he could pounce on the poor prankster. But then he relaxed and everybody returned to their respective tasks.
"Are you wet? Did any water get to you?" He asked, wiping his face with his wet hands.
"No, I was lucky enough," she giggled, thanking God for the space between them. Unlike him, she thought, I wouldn't be as graceful being soaked with the icy water of the river in such moist weather.

bruce is obsessive about sparing others the trauma of the instances they’re either forced into or just end up in. it’s what haunts him worse than anything— not not saving someone, but saving someone and then them languishing in their surviving pain. bruce is perpetually hung up on shielding others from an earth-shattering view. he always wants to stay right front and center of every situation; he wants to have total control of what’s going on.
this is far worse when it comes to children. far, far worse. not only will bruce eternally blame himself to the point of intrusive self-loathing, he’ll violently relive his own trauma as a boy. when triggered in this way bruce becomes short, clipped, and difficult to get a word out of. asl would benefit him tremendously, even if he doesn’t know that. he’s not used to communicating whatsoever. he speaks in single word answers and quick, deep noises. he speaks better with his motions than he does with his mouth.
bruce can’t handle thinking he couldn’t prevent another kid from being as deeply disturbed as he was. the idea of it makes him feel extremely responsible. if he can’t keep another individual, if he can’t keep a child from the path he’s walked, what’s he really doing? so more than anything, what bruce doesn’t realize is he’s a nurturer as a person. his proclivity for taking in traumatized kids is a direct link to his need to protect children, especially ones that remind him of himself, from continuing on and feeling alone.
there is no length he won’t go to to make sure others don’t have to carry baggage as he does. to be sure the innocent don’t have to shoulder their burdens he’ll carry with every heavy step. bruce would rather be the sole witness to every horrific sight than allow a single child to be forever altered by something totally out of their control.
he’s gentler and more sensitive than he realizes. he’s never been treated like he was or was permitted to be, and his father’s masculinity-charged example has made him believe stoicism is his necessary state only. if he’d express concern he’d be much healthier and sleep much better, but bruce was never taught how, so he needs to be talked through how to even assess that he has any issues.
( he knows he’s very much not perfect; it really doesn’t mean he thinks it ; it does mean that he’s blind to his own emotional reactions and how they affect others and their relationships with him. )

SAME ANON FROM TWO SECONDS AGO but it's also endlessly interesting how the people closest to the robins react to it being taken from them (which was essentially just the titans and the og yj team, because jason didn't have anyone and damian hasn't necessarily had it taken away from him). dick's team was definitely hurt on his behalf but generally a bit more mature in their approach to jason. tim's team was angry on his behalf and i think a lot of that ties into the fact they admired nightwing in a way that the titans didn't necessarily admire bruce, so they were more concerned about how dick was dealing, while the yj team was definitely more angry at dick doing it in the first place. and also damian, bless his heart, was a menace to work with, so he didn't necessarily make it easy on them, haha, but they definitely could have been nicer. it's just something that you can think about for hours and come up with so many different points, honestly.
Hello,
So I think Tim's team was rightfully angry with what had happened between Dick and Tim and Damian, from the way friends should be angry on your behalf. And everything regarding how Tim's team handles Damian is also the same age group reactions to what had happened; not excusing their behavior by any means, but it was the reaction you would expect from that age range, and with their understanding of what was going on. Dick's team was, for the most part, adults, late teens to young adult, they didn't react poorly towards Jason, but not the warmest, I think they had a grasp that in Jason and Dick's situation, there was no real reason to be angry at Jason, for Jason is the child and not in control.
The Young Justice and Titans do have drastically different views on the adult vigilante's in the DC universe, and it's interesting, because it also affects how the teams act and react, but they're also drastically different ideologies and goals and relationships with their perspective families and the Justice League. Titans were formed because the Justice League didn't see their proteges as adults, or grown up, the Young Justice was formed so they could be taught, and it creates, interesting and different, dynamics between the groups and adults.
But in regards to Damian and Tim, which I'll talk about more in the next post, it was all handled like shit, and there were ways it could've been handled better. I think the only good thing to come out of that era was that Tim became Red Robin, which I think was a huge step in the right direction for Tim's character as a whole. Tim was growing up, he was evolving as Robin but in many ways he had out grown the role of Robin, which is okay and good for a character to do. But it also limited what to do with him, he could pick up Dick's mantle and become Nightwing, which would've been a disservice to Tim's character, he could've become Batman, which would've been horrible for his character, he could've become the CEO of WE which would've been both empowering and damaging to his character, or he could've become something new. Given that Tim isn't inclined towards becoming new, because he had resigned himself many times to the role of Batman in his future (at least in the few issues of comics I possess he seems resigned to becoming Batman despite his lack of desire to be Batman. Tim is a character who rarely does things for himself, he does what's necessary for everyone else; he became Robin because Batman needs Robin. So in many ways, his evolution into Red Robin is fantastic for his character, as it permits him to figure out himself without the pressures of an established mantle. Red Robin is the best move for Tim, and I think it's definitely the best long term move for him, because he needs to find his own identity as a vigilante, and as himself.
As to Dick, he does the best he can, with what he knows, and it's not always right, and it's not always perfect; despite him being DC's Mr. Perfect, with Superman, Dick's evolving and figuring things out. It's not perfect. And Dick is a great brother to Tim and Damian, though he has done damages to both of them with his good intentions. And I think a lot of his relationships stem from having been a shit brother to Jason, I think Jason's death impacted Dick greatly and he strives to be a better brother. But he's also B's kid and he does fuck up and do the wrong thing for the right reasons where his brothers are concerned, and he's not perfect with them, but he's trying. And I can respect that, but how he's a brother to Jason, Tim, and Damian, it does take him off the golden child status DC puts him on, and the fandoms occasionally put him on.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law 1.04- "Is This Not Real Magic?"
So, for some reason I started this episode expecting the logo to be green? No idea why I thought that, but I did. Aside from that, let's get the elephant out of the room and out of the way.
No Matt still. At this point, I think it'll be the finale. They could introduce him this week if they want to have him in for two episodes like Wong has been so far (more on that later), but I'm a day late watching it and it seems there's not been any development on that front just yet, aside from some foreshadowing perhaps? They've really built the tension to this appearance, that's for sure, and I can't wait for the payoff.
Now, as promised, more on Wong. I'm really enjoying the fact he got a multiple episode story in this show, and both of the episodes he's had so far have been really entertaining. The addition of Madisynn as someone he had rather dropped on him, but who eventually became a friend, was so funny to me as well. Which, I'll admit, I wasn't her biggest fan at first. But the way she handled being stranded in another dimension like it was just another Tuesday afternoon won me over quickly, as did the way she called Wong "Wongers". I really hope we'll get to see more of her soon!
Actually, thinking about it now, is there any chance we could see Madisynn learning the the mystic arts? I didn't think about this in the episode, but she did survive another dimension and made her deal with "Jake" (assuming she did remember his name correctly) before becoming friends with the Sorcerer Supreme. With her introduction through Johnny Blaze leading her into these situations where the mystic arts would be really helpful, and I think it would be fun if Wong did teach her, and they started popping up here and there.
And speaking of Johnny Blaze, what an interesting villain for the episode. Power really is dangerous in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use it, and I thought this was a really interesting commentary on the idea of power necessitating responsibility- like Ben/May Parker told Peter and like Bruce told Jen. This guy showed what happens when there isn't any responsibility taken for the power, and I'm curious if that will weigh in at all on Jen's decision to really take up being a hero. (Also as a sidenote here- those little gremlin looking things were really cute even if they were destructive.)
So, we finally come around to Jen's "adventures", which felt a bit more like a string of bad dates than anything else. I have a lot of reactions written up about the various guys Jen went on dates with, none of them approving, but let's just say I wouldn't have entertained a second date with any of those misogynistic jerks either. Also, I very much appreciated Nikki's disapproval for "hetero life". Bi Nikki is something I wasn't expecting to get this episode, but it was a very welcome surprise and I hope to see more about it in the future. (As a side note with this whole dating thing and the topics touched on with these guys- I also want to say that I really like the more adult tone this show has even as a comedy.)
Moving into this week's episode, I am still super curious about where this is all going. I'm really glad to see that Titania's still relevant to the plot as I remember having wondered if she would be coming back soon and what role she would have. Especially with her being played by Jamila Jameel, it just didn't make sense she'd have had little more than a cameo in the first episode. So... I can't wait to see Matt soon, to see Jen vs Titania, and just to see how things wrap up in the next couple of weeks. This has been such an incredible ride so far, and I'm looking forward to the next episode.
But those are all just my thoughts! What did you think of the episode? Drop your thoughts in the replies below, or feel free to reblog with your own commentary :) You know I always want to hear from you, and I hope I will! Until next the next one- skål!
