Imagine Jason approaching Nico to confess he's choosing rebirth over Elysium.

The reason why is because he never felt like the life he lived was ever his (y'know, what with being taken from his family and being raised as the champion of a god and child soldier) and so he wants a do-over. He wants a normal life, where he doesn't have to be a pawn in someone's chess game.

Meanwhile, as he is explaining this, Nico is trying to ignore just how eerily similar it feels to Bianca's situation, because what life did she live beyond taking care of him? Her life was never hers either. Still, he offers, against the screaming in his head, to see Jason through the rebirth process. The lost hero accepts. After all, not many can say they had the Ghost King personally send them off into the waking world.

"I'm gonna miss you," Jason says. Nico laughs, but there's no happiness behind it. They're behind the River Lethe now.

"No you won't," he murmurs, knowing the river's power firsthand, "but I will."

When Jason forgets and his soul is taken to a place no mortal can't follow, Nico fades into the shadows and wills himself to reappear before a small camp. He doesn't flinch when the hunters of Artemis point their arrows at him reflexively. It only takes a couple of seconds before the bows slowly lower once the girls recognize him.

Bianca's little brother.

Thalia tells them to stand down, walking forward and looking at him with electric blue eyes that are both distant yet knowing. They remind him of Jason's, though his were not as harsh or striking. They used to be gentle. comforting.

He will never see those eyes again.

"He chose rebirth," Nico chokes out, "Thalia, he's, he's gone."

And suddenly he's ten years old again, betrayed and grieving. Thalia catches him as he collapses to his knees, and he cries in her arms, inconsolable.

Why him?

Why her?

He doesn't know who he is referring to anymore.

Artemis ushers the other girls away with a neutral face, but she too is shaken by the sight of the demigods. The grief of her lieutenant and the son of Hades remind her of the fear that seized her when her brother was exiled, of what could have been when he was turned human. When the cries from the children of the Big Three reach her own tent, Artemis swears on the River Styx that she will never allow herself and Apollo to come close to such a fate ever again.

They are a tragic sight to behold, Nico di Angelo and Thalia Grace — a younger brother and older sister that don't belong to one another, yet holding onto each other like they do. As the daughter of Zeus's tears seap into his jacket, Nico briefly wonders that if Thalia is all he has left, then maybe it would be nice if Jason and Bianca had each other. As friends, perhaps. Siblings, even.

If the Fates had been listening in when he thought that, there was nobody present with them to know.

Juniper: Luna, Janette, Carol, Angela, Thiriana… Yeah, that’s all of them.

Luna: What’s going on mom?

Saphron: Dad’s gonna tell us why he doesn’t want, Jaune to be a, Huntsman.

Carol: Oh this should be good.

Angela: I wonder what this will be about.

Jeanne: Dad’s going to explain why he won’t let, Jaune train to become a, Huntsman.

Janette: Oh this should be good.

Jaune: It better be…

Thiriana: Okay, Dad we’re all here, explain why you won’t let, Jaune become a, Huntsman?

Acheius: …

Juniper: It’s okay, Dear, we’re all here with you.

Acheius: Okay… This happened years ago… many years ago…

Saphron: How many years ago?

Acheiss: Enough.

Saphron: That’s not a…!

Juniper: Save your questions for later, Saphron.

Saphron: Sorry.

Saphire: Go on, Dad.

Acheius: Haaa… Okay… So your mother, and I were on our way home after a trip from the hospital. Your mother was about five months pregnant at the time, we went to see how the baby was doing. The pregnancy wasn’t go that well. Not that it was bad, but it wasn’t that well…

Thiriana: What’s was wrong?

Juniper: It was my first pregnancy. We weren’t sure what would happen, so we went to the hospital to see how things were going. Everything was fine.

Saphron: I thought you had a hard time with my birth?

Juniper: Both set of the twins were harder to deal with…

Jeanne: Sorry…

Juniper: Don’t worry. Keep going, Achi.

Acheius: Well, we were on our way back with a caravan, merchants, people fleeing, Vale. And a couple of, Hunter’s. I was nervous beyond belief, I wanted to get back home as fast as I could because I was freaking out about the baby, and your mother.

Carol: Not much has changed has it?

Acheius: Ha! No, no it hasn’t… Anyway, you can all probably expect what happened…

Jaune: A Grimm attack?

Acheius: Yeah… Typical, Grimm attack… But… by the time I realized we were under attack… the cart that had been carrying us had been flipped over… and… and…

Juniper: And, I lost the baby…

Saphron: Oh gods!

Thiriana: Saphron wasn’t the first?!

Janette: W-What?!

Coral: You had a miscarriage…?!

Angela: Mom, are you okay?

Jeanne: Excuse me! I need to… Hrk?!

Saphire: Me too!

Luna: The baby…

Jaune: …

Juniper: Uhh… We’ll continue our story when your sisters come back.

Acheius: They’re taking this better than I expected…

Janette: Have you ever heard of a thing called timing?!

Thiriana: Enough! Enough you two… Neither of you are helping… You’re just making things worse…

Janette: Sorry…

Jeanne: Jaune…?

Jaune: Mom was five months pregnant; you can tell the gender of the baby by then… You don’t want me to be a, Huntsman because you’re scared. Scared because you don’t want to lose another son, aren’t you?

Acheius: Ha! Haha haaaa… You’re damn right I’m scared…

Acheius: Haa… When you said you wanted to become a, Huntsman… I haven’t felt such fear before in my life… I laughed at you not because I don’t think you couldn’t be a, Huntsman, Jaune. You’re damn clever boy, more so than most people think. You would be one hell of an impressive, Huntsman. I laughed because… Because it’s a defence mechanism! I laugh when I’m scared, and when you said you wanted to be a huntsman… I’m terrified to lose another son… I… I can’t handle it… I can’t handle it again…

Luna: I’m confused… Why are you so hurt about this, Dad! Mom lost the baby not you!

Juniper: Luna!

Jaune: But, Dad couldn’t do anything.

Luna: W-What?

Jaune: Dad was with, Mom in the wagon, they didn’t even know the, Grimm was there. Dad is beating himself up because if he was outside watching out for, Grimm, instead of watching over, Mom like he did. Well… Maybe none of this would have happened. And, that’s what’s eating away at, Dad so much, isn’t it?

Acheius: Hehe… Haa… Like I said: He’s a damn clever boy… Yeah… That’s why I’m so upset… I couldn’t do anything to save my unborn son… I’m a failure…

Jeanne: For what? Y-You said it yourself there wasn’t anything you could do! Yes, you lost your first son, but you have, Jaune! You have all of us too!

Saphron: And, you’ve done a damn good job of protecting us! Yes you may have failed… But, it’s like you say: “So long as I can stand back up…”

Acheius: “Any lessoned learned is worth the price…”

Saphron: Yeah…

Jaune: …

Jaune: Dad…?

Acheius: Jaune…?

Jaune: I’m going to be a, Huntsman… No matter what you say I’m going to become a Huntsman. So… Will uou train me to become a, Huntsman. To become the, Huntsman that you needed that day. Please!

Acheius: …

Jeanne: Please, Dad?

Acheius: …

Juniper: Achi…

Acheius: …?

Juniper: He will become that, Huntsman. No matter what comes his way, he will become that, Huntsman. You know he will.

Acheius: Haaa…

Acheius: I’m going to make it hell, for both of you.

Jeanne: Oh! I’m so excited!

Jaune: Ha. Bring it old man.

Acheius: Oh, you’re gonna get it now. Come on uou two. Its time to train you into some, Hunters!

Jeanne: Whoo! Lets fucking go!

Juniper: Language young lady!

Jeanne: Sorry!

Jaune: Thanks, Dad. I’ll make you proud.

Acheius: Ha… You always have, Jaune. You always have…

I just played and finished Gotham Knights for the first time

And I have a LOT of thoughts. I might go in depth on certain things in other posts, but I want to kinda go over my general thoughts and feelings about this game. Spoilers ahead for:

First things first, if you want this to be "Arkham: Gotham Knights", you are going to leave very disappointed. The game's reception was hurt pretty bad by comparisons it to the Arkham series. Arkham is a masterpiece. Gotham Knights is very good at what it wants to accomplish, but comparing it to Arkham feels unfair. I mean...I'm gonna do it anyways, but I'll compare them with the intention that the Arkham games and Gotham Knights set out to accomplish two different things

The Good:

•By far, the best aspect of this game is the scripted moments between the Batfamily. This game features Nightwing (Dick Grayson), Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Red Hood (Jason Todd), Robin (Tim Drake), and Alfred. It's very clear this is the aspect the developers put the most focus into and it really pays off. It gives me the same feeling as reading "Batman: Wayne Family Adventures". If you just want to see the Batfamily interact and support each other, you're gonna love this game

•While it took me a while to get used to, I really fell in love with the art direction of this game. The skyline of Gotham City is gorgeous. I love the way the bright neon signs illuminate the low hanging fog giving everything a sort of colorful haze. And while I don't love every suit design, I think the customization let's me really like most of them. Batman especially looks really great in this game. His suit in this game is inspired by his look in the Rebirth comics and it translates beautiful

The Bad:

• I'm genuinely confused by the characterization of Mr. Freeze in this game. His motivations are all over the place to the point that I wonder if WB Montréal decided to combine Victor and Nora Fries into one character. At the beginning of the Mr. Freeze side mission, it's explained that Mr. Freeze had given up crime because Batman had promised to help develop a cure for his condition, but now that Batman is gone, he's back at it. Victor doesn't normally care about his own illness, he just wants a cure for Nora. But Nora is never mentioned in this game. Even weirder, nothing he does in the story is ever to cure his condition. SO WHY DID HE STOP CRIME IN THE FIRST PLACE IF HE DOESN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT FINDING A CURE AND HE JUST WANTS TO FREEZE GOTHAM!? It's just a weird creative decision to take

•Yeah so this one isn't a big deal, but at one point in the story, a cat sneaks into The Belfry and the Batfamily just kind of adopt it. It stays there for the rest of the game. You can't pet the cat. I know this isn't important, but it actually made me genuinely sad when I found this out

The Ugly:

•To call this game underdeveloped would be a compliment. I wouldn't call it unpolished, because the game runs perfectly as intended in my experience. I didn't encounter a single bug or crash. But the story and the gameplay feel half-baked, which really sucks considering those are the two main aspects of a video game

•In the gameplay department, combat is passable but the skill ceiling is REALLY low. It reallys very restrictive in what you're actually able to do, but the combat by itself isn't so bad that it isn't fun.

Traversal on the other hand is awful. All the characters use a grapple to get around, but there's no momentum, so you feel like you're barely moving. You stop and lose all momentum between grapples. Arkham also has a grapple gun but it allowed you to string multiple grapple points and keep your momentum through them so they'd be more fluid and you keep your speed going

The Batcylce is also not great. It's REALLY slow and despite the added movement lines around the screen to provide the illusion of speed, you're barely moving faster than the cars on the road. Again, compare this to the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. I did not love the Batmobile in Arkham Knight, and I outright hated the Riddler races, but it was fast and you could really feel the speed in it

Finally you don't actually unlock the ability to glide or any of the other weird traversal abilities if you're playing as anyone other than Nightwing or Batgirl until you complete the Knighthood challenges. Locking an essential traversal ability behind an option set of challenges is weird to say the least. I don't have much to say about gliding, it controls fine but feels slow compared to Arkham

•Lastly, the story of this game isn't bad for what is is, but is disappointing when you realize it had the potential to be so much better by including two characters who are absent from this game: Kate Kane Batwoman and Damian Wayne Robin. The game is set up as a sort of gang war between the The League of Assassins lead by Talia Al Ghul and The Court of Owls lead by Jacob Kane. Both of their child are members of the batfamily, but were weirdly excluded from this game. Including them as playable characters could have made the conflict more personal and interesting.

Additionally, Catherine Kane, Kate Kane's step-mother, is the current anti-vigilante Commissioner of the GCPD. Her daughter being Batwoman would be great character drama that goes completely unexplored. As is, Catherine is a one dimensional, underdeveloped character. And Damian could be shown as torn between the recent death of his father and the re-emergence of his mother in Gotham City. These characters feel like obvious inclusions for the story of this game but are missing without any explanation

In Conclusion:

This game has a lot working against it. I couldn't even fit half of my thoughts into this already way too long rant. The game is just average in the gameplay, mediocre in the story, but absolutely phenomenal in the inter-character relationships. I compared it to Wayne Family Adventures earlier, and if you love stuff like that and want more of the Batfamily being supportive and wholesome to each other, you'll love this game. And I think that's genuinely the main appeal of Gotham Knights. But if you're not interested in the characters and just want a Batman action game, it's passable, but you'd be better off playing any of the Arkham games

hi i LOVE ur acc and i was wondering if u had any ideas on this cause i cant seem to like. figure it out? in mizumono hannibal's like "do you think you could change me? the way ive changed you," and wills like "i already did." and i was like WOAHSJDGF. but like also how? i get the general feeling that he changed to view himself capable of love and realized he did actually want understanding and acceptance?? but i feel like theres a shift in his mindset based on his actions im not getting?? or rather how will changed him? like what of wills actions led to it? if that makes sense?

okay but YES i have many ideas about this, I'm gonna go back to a couple lines before this, though, and go line by line and explain how i personally interpret this scene and topic!! sorry this is so long i got excited <3

warning: i make a lot of assumptions about hannibal's past which i am not 100% sure about, because the show makes his past very very vague. i am mainly going off just what the show implies and tells us, not the books.

also, there is a TLDR at the end of this!

hannibal says, almost exasperatedly, "my freedom, then. you would take that from me. confine me to a prison cell" and then looks at abigail. she looks down, almost guiltily, and i feel like in this moment everyone is remembering how hannibal took /will's/ freedom from him and confined /him/ to a prison cell (using abigail's fake death). and he is acting like it is somehow unfair that will would do the same to him.

but hannibal /is/ right in that he and will took or were going to take each other's freedoms for entirely different reasons. hannibal confined will to a prison cell because he was trying to change will for what he genuinely thought was the better. this is evident by hannibal saying "i have always had huge faith in you, will" and "i think you are more in control now than you have ever been" and the rebirth themed episode directly after will gets out of prison. will's imprisonment was to change him. this change was not only will being more "in control," but more in tune and intimate with his "urges," and generally more intimate and less afraid of the parts of his mind he had been trying to suppress.

after hannibal says "...confine me to a prison cell," and looks back at will, he looks thoughful for a moment. that is when he says "do you believe you could change me, the way i have changed you?" because he is asking will if he believes that he could change hannibal by imprisoning him (which was his "plan" with jack for most of s2b), just as hannibal changed will by imprisoning him.

will replies with "i already did," the script says after that, "hannibal studies will a moment, realizing he's right." will did not need to imprison hannibal in order to change him. by just making hannibal feel this kind of love, devotion, and trust, he had already changed hannibal drastically. i dont believe hannibal had felt what he felt for will since mischa 30-40 years ago. to really put it in perspective, hannibal had gone through his entire life probably completely alone, letting nobody close to him like he let will be close to him. he never let himself be seen, and never let himself trust enough to experience anything like this (presumably).

will's changing hannibal is also shown physically by the entire scene in mizumono happening at that moment. hannibal massacred everybody in his own house. this is not the way he kills. his kills are not impulsively reactionary or born of emotions as intense and volatile as he was feeling in response to will's betrayal. will himself says hannibal's kills are like "pests he's swatted," born of annoyance at best. this killing and violence resulting from a situation of genuine, deep hurt is entirely new for hannibal. like i said, hannibal had not let himself truly be seen by anyone other than will in a very long time, and he trusted will in a way he didnt even trust bedelia in season 3. when hannibal found out will's betrayal of him, he was heartbroken. heartbreak is not something hannibal is supposed to open himself up to. he is supposed to be in complete control of his emotions and actions. but he wasn't, and he did open himself up to this heartbreak. so, this cocktail of emotions is completely and entirely foreign to hannibal (other than mischa), and he unleashes it all in the mizumono massacre. what hannibal does for will makes him act in ways he does not and has not acted before, generally.

semi-TLDR: so, will changed hannibal because he was the first person hannibal loved and trusted in this very vulnerable way since mischa. because of this, he was the first person capable of betraying hannibal in such a deep-cutting way. will caused hannibal to let himself experience love and trust again. and also heartbreak and betrayal. these volatile emotions are all behind hannibal's mizumono massacre, which is absolutely uncharacteristic of him (at least, up until this point). in this way, will changed hannibal.

as for the consequences of this change in hannibal: hannibal is grappling with this realization/coming to terms/figuring out how to deal with his love of will (and will's betrayal) during mizumono and post-mizumono. he doesn't know what to do with this change in himself. s3a is literally just hannibal trying to figure out how to deal with his uncontrollable obsession with/love of will and what to do with it. and also how to deal with will's consistent rejection of him (mizumono betrayal, the knife in the uffizi gallery, and the digestivo rejection). secondo is where he concludes that the only way he can forgive will for making him feel this way (and for his influence of hannibal to betryal himself) is to eat him, as he did the same to his sister. when they're back at will's house after the brain eating is interrupted, and after the consequent muskrat farm massacre, hannibal is regretting something (either the brain eating, killing abigail, or opening himself up to wills "influence" at all. or all three.), and starts writing theoretical formulas to turn back time in a notebook. after will's final rejection in digestivo, hannibal turns himself in. hannibal is All Over The Place after he starts loving will and lets himself be heartbroken by will: he kills abigail, runs off to europe, tries to kill will and eat his brain, then regrets it and tries to convince will to let it go, and then puts himself in prison after will rejects him. i'm not going to go into the reason for the prison thing because this is already getting too long, lol.

hannibal is known for being able to control his emotions and calculate his actions very carefully. hannibal literally says "you cannot control with respect to whom you fall in love." and bedelia says "what your sister [and now will] made you feel was beyond your conscious ability to control or predict." hannibal is used to being able to control and predict his emotions. the appearance of his uncontrollable and unpredictable love and forgiveness of will is in direct conflict with what hannibal is used to, and this is the change in hannibal that will caused.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Review Chapter 9!

Okay, this collection of posts will be filled with spoilers, including clips and screenshots, so if you don't wanna see things, then don't look. Some of the things I'm gonna highlight will include references to Remake and other sources to link with the overarching plot. This is a straight path playthrough with no sidequests or extra content.

Tiny amendment, I realised I accidentally combined chapter six with seven because they were both really short narratively speaking, so we're actually up to chapter 9 😁

Anyway...

Chapter nine is meatier than Junon, and I had to get creative with the images.

So we begin the following day after Barret's showdown with Dyne and the group is driving around the desert hoping to spot a black cloak. Until Yuffie gets sick and they stop. Cait Sith decides to do a reading, which throws up a hint about mushrooms. Tifa tosses the keys to a smug Cloud and we're in the driver's seat from now on.

Destination: Gongaga.

Cloud gets deja vu looking at the local area. What's interesting is this isn't prevented by jenova and he doesn't get a headache. This is because he was in Gongaga while in a coma, so does this mean that while in his coma state jenova and Sephiroth have no influence over him?

Tifa's such a foodie and I love this about her! Also explains why Cloud brings her exotic ingredients to cook with. He really knows what she likes 🥺❤️

And we're meeting Cissnei. Now, she either did what Aerith did and saw the sword first and mistook Cloud for Zack, or she recognised Cloud as the second escaped sample and is covering up her surprise. She does tell him later to rest, so it's definitely sus.

We have convo opportunities in Gongaga too, although the one that furthers the plot and can't be missed is this one at Zack's parents house. After insulting Zack to his parents, Aerith asks if she was selfish, to which I always answer duh.

Cloud asks outright if Aerith still likes Zack, although he can't recall him still at this point. She says he never gave her a reason not to like him, then Tifa comes over and there's a bit with Cloud insulting Zack and the girls getting mad at him.

The conclusion is Cloud doesn't know Zack, but this gives Tifa more misgivings because Cloud knows about events in Nibelheim and Zack was there.

There's something going down at the reactor, so the guys head over to check it out. The more mako Cloud breathes in the less functional he becomes, which leaves them all vulnerable to Scarlet's attacks.

Meanwhile, the girls are heading in to save the day. They take on Scarlet, giving the other team time to get to a safe spot, with Barret carrying the sick Cloud over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

Tifa becomes separated from the others and tries to stop Scarlet from attacking the weapon inside the reactor. She ends up swinging from her grappling gun, which panics Cloud and gets him moving to save her.

But Sephiroth's not far behind and takes control of Cloud, which results in a bloodbath of Shinra soldiers. Tifa rescues herself and rushes to Cloud's side to save him from himself.

And then comes the series of scenes from the trailers. Sephiroth manipulates Cloud into attacking Tifa in an echo of how she was almost killed in the Nibelheim reactor, only Cloud misses. For someone who was slicing and dicing with frightening accuracy a few minutes before, the fact he missed Tifa at point blank range shows part of Cloud can't be fully controlled by Sephiroth. He missed. Tifa still fell, but she wasn't hurt. Sephiroth failed.

And then weapon pops up to chow down on her. Cloud comes to and wonders where Tifa is. Last thing he recalls is going to help her. He gets a bunch of flashes that jenova tries to get between with some static, but Cloud knows what happened. And we see him break down over it.

Meanwhile, weapon takes Tifa on a tour of the lifestream. She hears her parents and friends and sees some scenes from her childhood. Specifically scenes that are important to Cloud. They're also Tifa's precious memories, and give her some important information she'll need later to save Cloud in the lifestream.

Sephiroth appears and tries to kill her again. Bit more directly this time. His blade just misses her, but it pierces the weapon and she starts drowning. She sees zangan, Dr Sheran, Barret and Aerith, and the first three give her words of encouragement to keep fighting to live. Aerith just says her name and nothing else.

Tifa sees Cloud, but he's leaving her to follow Sephiroth. She becomes distressed as Sephiroth taunts her that her words can't reach Cloud now, but we know those two have always communicated best without words 🤭

The injured weapon reappears in the reactor. Barret slaps some sense into Cloud and tells him Tifa needs him. This gets him out of his stupor to go to Tifa's side and check on her as she loses consciousness.

When Tifa wakes up we see a guilt ridden Cloud about to rush off and let everyone know she's okay, but Tifa stops him and they have a heart to heart about the past and that fateful trip up Mt Nibel. Tifa admits she doesn't remember everything that happened, and Cloud regrets not being able to save her. He finally confides in her that he feels like he's losing it and Tifa promises to save him like he saved her.

They almost kiss, but Yuffie opens her fat mouth and interrupts.

This is a non-optional moment between them. Even if you chose the worst options in convos and ignored Tifa completely, they will almost kiss.

Tifa goes into the living area and there's some chat about the planet and what to do next, which ends in a decision to hit up Cosmo Canyon.

A lot happens in this chapter. Like plot heavy serious things that shouldn't be ignored at all.

Cloud has deja vu about Gongaga.

Tifa learns Cloud doesn't know/remember Zack, and grows more concerned.

Sephiroth forces Cloud to overdose on mako gas in the reactor in an attempt to take control of him.

Cloud doesn't harm Tifa despite being Sephiroth's puppet, meaning he doesn't have total control over him when it comes to Tifa.

Tifa learns about the important memories of her and Cloud's past, and that the planet is currently winning against Sephiroth from her pov

Cloud and Tifa share mutual attraction and chemistry that results in an almost kiss

Cloud and Tifa confide in each other and their relationship deepens.

I just want to say I absolutely LOVE Vincent in Rebirth, but there are a few things that I can't stop thinking about.

When Vincent said his bond with Sephiroth was "unique" it got me wondering if Vincent really is his father instead of Hojo. Hojo could just have claimed to be his father because he "created" him. It would also explain how he was "unable to pull the trigger" whenever he saw him. Though I suppose that could also just be down to him being Lucrecia's son. But we can't deny Sephiroth resembles Vincent quite a lot and I'm gonna die on this hill!

I think I read somewhere that there are no DLC planned for Rebirth but I think a DLC of Vincent's past would be perfect. We play as him as a Turk so we can get more details on his time with Lucrecia and see their relationship build. Maybe with a new character as his partner who gets injured then experimented on by Hojo and becomes the final boss?

Then in the next part when they meet Lucrecia it could be a touching reunion instead of a flashback sequence. Then to make things worse, Sephiroth could show up and kill Lucrecia, after which her spirit is "absorbed" into the crystal. Vincent would feel tremendous guilt of once again being "unable to pull the trigger" to stop Sephiroth like so many times before but this time it's the push he needs, especially now he has Cloud and the others with him.

But yeah, just a few wishful thinking stuff that I would love to see in the future, along with an Advent Children DLC and a complete Dirge of Cerberus remake (like CC Reunion but hopefully with Vincent being less "simpy" towards Lucrecia).

Journey to the West Chapter 19

Monkey dragging Pigsy to go see Tripitaka:

So we begin this chapter of Journey to the West with @journeythroughjourneytothewest where we left off, with Monkey chasing after Zhu.

So they reach a tall mountain, and Zhu retrieves his weapon, a nine pronged rake, while Monkey demands him to identify himself. Which works, since Zhu then proceeds to give Monkey his whole life story. Which basically amounts to, he was a Marshall in heaven before he got drunk and sexually harrassed the moon goddess Chang'e. The Jade Emperor was gonna execute him but the Gold Star of Venus (who else) intervened and he was whipped and banished to earth instead and took a wrong turn on the path to rebirth and ended up getting born by a sow. With story time over for now- the two start duking it out until eventually Zhu retreats and seals himself inside his cave. Monkey decides to just go report back to Tripitaka and come back to catch the monster later.

So Tripitaka has had a good night so far since he stayed up late chatting with the some elder's that Monkey had told Mr. Gao to provide for him. And just as he's starting to wonder why Monkey hasn't returned- he does. So Tripitaka asks Monkey where the monster is, and Monkey gives him a rundown of the situation.

Mr. Gao comes forward to insist that Monkey capture the monster since he doesn't want him coming back once the two leave. He even says he'll reward them for it. Monkey however seems to stand up for Zhu saying that despite having an enormous appetite, he did do the work for it. And not only that, but he is also technically a descended god, and has helped their family without causing any serious harm to his daughter, so why not keep him around?

Mr. Gao however insists that it will hurt their reputation. And Tripitaka tells Sun Wukong that he really should see this through to the end. And Sun Wukong says he was just testing him a little for fun and will apprehend the monster. So with that he leaves again after reminding Mr. Gao to take good care of Tripitaka.

So Sun Wukong arrives back to the cave and finally pulls out a win against a locked cave door, by reducing the door to dust with his staff. Moneky once again challenges Zhu to fight him by calling him an overstuffed coolio. Which Zhu replies to by calling Monkey BanHorsePlague, and telling him that breaking and entering and trespassing is against the law. And Monkey says that his rap sheet of kidnapping that girl from her family is a much worse crime.

Zhu gets tired of comparing their rap sheets and yells 'Fear my rake' and attacks Monkey again. Monkey is just like 'Why on earth would I be afraid of a rake?' Which leads to Zhu giving us more exposition, this time about his weapon. Which basically amounts to the rake being a group effort to make in heaven, that was gifted to him. He then says he'll rake monkey until his soul melts and his spirit leaks. To which Monkey replies 'Rake Away'. And let's Zhu get a free shot in. Zhu takes that shot... only to have the rake bounce right off his head, leaving Monkey without even a scratch. And Monkey gleefully reminds him that back when he had caused havoc in heaven, none of their heavenly weapons had worked back then to execute him.

Zhu finally decides to ask what he's even doing here harassing him, after all didn't he live on flower fruit mountain? Did his father in law go all the way there just to fetch him? And Monkey finally tells him that he's just passing through here with the Scripture Pilgrim. This causes Zhu to completely change his tune, throwing aside his weapon to demand that Monkey take him to the Scripture Pilgrim. Monkey is suspicious and asks why, and Zhu explains that he was recruited by Guanyin to help on their journey in order to atone for his sins. Monkey makes him swear to heaven that he's telling the truth before he takes him to Tripitaka.

Before they leave however, Monkey hazes Zhu into joining the Arson Club with him and Bai Long Ma, by ordering him to burn down his cave. Now we just need Tripitaka to commit some arson to complete the club... Anyways with the cave now on fire, Monkey has Zhu hand over his weapon, and turns one of his hairs into a rope to tie his hands up with. With that done Monkey then proceeds to drag him by the ear to Tripitaka.

Monkey then points Tripitaka out to Zhu by saying his master is the dignified looking one. So Zhu know tows to Tripitaka and explains that he has been assigned by Guanyin as his disciple. So Tripitaka thanks Guanyin with some incense and has Monkey until Zhu. Then Tripitaka offers to give Zhu a religious name but Zhu explains that he already received the name Zhu Wuneng from Guanyin. So Tripitaka gives him the nickname 'Eight Rules' instead.

Mr Gao is happy to finally be rid of Zhu so he throws them a going away feast. Pigsy asks to see his wife, but Monkey says monks aren't allowed to have wives. Mr Gao offers Tripitaka some wine, but Tripitaka practices abstinence from it. However neither Sun Wukong or Zhu Wuneng have cut out wine from their diets so Tripitaka lets them have some as long as they don't get drunk and cause trouble. Also I think we find out that Wukong is a lightweight?

Mr. Gao also tries to offer them some Gold and Silver as well as some fancy new clothes, but Tripitaka declines it. Sun Wukong however takes the money and hands it to Gao Cai, for bringing them here and gaining them Wuneng. And tells him to feel free to come to him with any future monster problems. Mr. Gao then insists they at least take the clothes, but Tripitaka once again declines- however Zhu Wuneng demands some clothes as payment for his years of service, which Mr. Gao reluctantly agrees to.

So the group heads off again, but not before Zhu Wuneng says his goodbyes to the family, and says that if this whole 'questing thing' doesn't work out he'll be back as his son in law. Which causes both Monkey and Tripitaka to scold him and tell him to stop talking nonsense. So the group travels for about a month before they come across a tall mountain. When Tripitaka asks about it, surprisingly it's Zhu Wuneng who has the answer saying it's Pagoda Mountain, and that Crow's Nest Chan Master lives there.

So they travel up the mountain a little more before finally running into the master himself. They exchange the usual pleasantries and Tripitaka asks how far they are from Thunderclap temple. Chan Master says they are very far and that the journey is perilous, but he has a Heart Sutra that will protect him from harm and offers to teach it to Tripitaka. So Chan Master recites the Sutra and Tripitaka manages to memorize it after only hearing it once. Having done that Chan prepares to take his leave of them, but Tripitaka once again asks about the challenges they will face on their journey.

So Chan gives them a bunch of cryptic warnings including one about water sprite, a wild pig and old stone ape which causes Monkey to lash out after Chan Master turns into a beam of light at the perceived insult. Tripitaka holds him back however and Zhu tells him to chill out and that Master Chan knows of past and future events. And that they should wait and see if his statement about meeting a water sprite will come true or not. So with that the group finally continues on their Journey to the West.

Pandaemonium thoughts: The Heart of Sabik

Ok. Ok. I want to talk about Pandaemonium. I’m not sure I can actually do anything but incoherent screaming, but I’ll try.

(This got long so I’m going to divide this up into multiple posts.)

First, the Heart of Sabik.

I’m gonna be honest. I didn’t think they were actually going to give us any substantial information about it. I really thought they were going to continue sweeping it under the rug. So kudos to the writing team for exceeding my expectations.

So, what we learned:

While at the Words of Lahabrea, before working at Pandaemonium, Athena “chanced upon” a unique crystal filled with “immense power” and dubbed it “auracite”. She studied it and eventually produced the “Heart of Sabik”. Lahabrea and others suspected the auracite was from another world.

As demonstrated in the Return to Ivalice questline, Athena’s auracite also magnified desires. At some point, Athena used the Heart of Sabik to contain a density of aether unlike anything Lahabrea had ever seen, knowledge of the Ultima spell, Athena’s memories and some mechanism to give her rebirth in the future.

After he killed her, Lahabrea took the Heart but made no progress in learning its secrets. He held onto it through the ages. (Sentimentality? Or merely as a tool?) This is how he comes to use it to teach the Ultima spell to the Ultima weapon in ARR. The question remains as to why Lahabrea ascribes its power to his god in Prae. This may simply be something we have to hand wave as a product of earlier writing, though I can’t help wondering... Was Athena possibly influencing Lahabrea from within the Heart? (It would be a neat way to explain the moments in the story where Laha seems to possibly not be 100% loyal to Zodiark.)

The Heart eventually ends up being lost in the Aetherochemical Research Facility in Azys Lla, where Lahabrea was defeated. And it’s there that Claudien finds it and falls victim to Athena’s plan.

Questions we are left with:

Where does the auracite come from? We have no definitive answer to this, though the questline suggests that Athena received it from Ultima the High Seraph. If true, this would mean that Ultima had dealings with Etheirys before the Sundering.

Laha mentions the possibility of the auracite being from another world quite casually. Was this normal? Did the Ancients have knowledge of and even dealings with other worlds? Hermes’ creation of Meteion suggests not. But then again if so, it would suggest that Hermes reaching out to other worlds with Meteion wouldn’t be cause for alarm among the Ancients. It was not unprecedented, which puts a different spin on Hermes’ actions.

Claudien keeps the Heart and intends to research it. Is this a crumb that will lead to more in 7.0? Will the trail eventually lead us to Ultima and her world? An interesting possibility. (Perhaps Sabik is the name of the star Ultima is from.)

*points* EXACTLY. Look she's got a whole set of crystal clear memories of growing up a mortal person in a wholly MORTAL world. And as different as her everything is now, she's STILL got mortal software downloaded onto Eldar hardware. There's some glitches. And it's one thing to know that she's an elf, and that yeah she might die but it's considered a TEMPORARY state for one of the Eldar, right? And she knows Mandos is a real place but that's not the same as KNOWING the way normal elves seem to.

And she was an exception in her first life, who's to say she's not one in this? But she can't SAY that, she's never told ANYONE about her first life, has she?

She can't just TELL Elrond and Celebrian that she knows this whole story by heart and she's an extra, unmentioned even in the footnotes bit. How'd'you tell someone that without coming across as finally catching to the family crazy?

Anordil: on one hand telling people I died and still think I’m going to die despite being literally ageless would probably help with my mental health

Anordil: On the other hand, I really don’t want to have that conversation? And also it’s not like a big DEAL I died

Your husbands -especially the one who LITERALLY CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD- would like to disagree with you.

Glorfindel: please don’t die, we would wait for your rebirth of course, but we would rather you stay.

Anordil: *doesn’t know how to explain that she doesn’t really think that she would go to mandos’ halls or even be reborn given everything* I’ll do my best to live?

And meanwhile Elrond knows that his sister knows something but he also knows that she’s not gonna tell anyone so he just ._.

He’s gonna assume that she has a lil bit of foresight.

Anordil: excellent, I’m going to get a good grade in elf! Something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve!

When you install mortal software into a system that is not mortal and forget to update the settings from ‘mortal’ to ‘undying save for certain conditions’ you get a few glitches! It’s fine!

(I was also thinking that Glorfindel kinda squints at her when they meet because one formerly dead person recognizes another and yet he can’t for the life of him figure out WHEN SHE DIED THE TIMELINES DONT ADD UP IF SHE DIED IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG BUT NONE WHO SERVED MAGLOR OR MAEDHROS MENTION A CHILD DYING-)

(Anordil: I mean I know that he’s come back from the dead it’s not really surprising but the fact I can literally look at him and go ‘oh hey he died!’ Is really weird. I wonder if that means he can tell I died!

RWBY's White Death

Or why me and @hamliet are morons...

Quick premise (many of you already know by this point) - RWBY follows an alchemical structure, which is characterized by 3/4 phases linked to a color (black, white, yellow and red). Each phase climaxes with a meaningful death. I have explained it here:

Now, for each phase there is a major death, so there are usually ¾ key deaths, each one linked to a specific phase.

For example, in Harry Potter there is

a) Sirius BLACK dying

b) ALBUS Dumbledore dying

c) Harry dying and being carried by RUBEUS Hagrid

Let’s highlight that each one of these deaths is especially resonant and important for the story. Sirius dies when Harry discovers about the prophecy. Dumbledore’s death leads to Harry leaving Hogwarts to look for the Horcruxes and finally Harry’s own death leads to Voldemort’s defeat.

What I mean is that the deaths linked to each phase must be resonant and meaningful either in terms of plot or in terms of themes. They must have weight and be felt both by the audience and by the characters.

In RWBY so far we have:

Black Death > Pyrrha - she dies at night surrounded by black Grimms and killed by a black glass bow called Midnight

Yellow death > Penny - she dies surrounded by yellow, is killed by a sword literally called Yellow Death and disappears into a golden cloud

As explained in the meta above, I think Cinder will be the Red Death. However, there is still a death missing aka the White Death. Now, in many alchemical stories the Yellow Phase is integrated with the Red, so there are often only 3 deaths. RWBY though is portraying all the phases, including the rainbow one, which is skipped in many stories. Despite this, me and hamliet wondered if they were still gonna stick to the 3 deaths formula.

Well, they are and they are not. By this, I mean we have already had a White Death, which is similar, but also completely different from the others:

Weiss aka White "dies", but she is Snowhite, so she is reborn.

Weiss's "death" parallels both Pyrrha and Penny's in how she is a young girl killed by Cinder during the climax of an arc. At the same time, it differs because Weiss is not really asked to make a self-actualizing choice and survives.

Why does it happen? There are both structural and thematic reasons to this.

ALBEDO - A PHASE BETWEEN 2 DEATHS

In RWBY Albedo starts with Weiss's almost death and it ends with Clover's very real one:

Clover dies surrounded by snow with his death being a minor version of Penny's in volume 8. After this moment, Citrinitas (the Yellow Phase) starts as Salem arrives in Atlas with Monstra and things start getting more and more yellow as volume 8 progresses:

So, it is as if for the White Phase they "depowered" the death's impact by dividing it into 2 - 1 opening and 1 closing Albedo. On the one hand there is a major's character death, which is temporary. On the other hand there is a minor character's passing, which foreshadows the tragedy soon to come.

This choice might have to do with the meaning behind Albedo. This stage is thus linked to purification and rebirth. In RWBY, it is connected with the gift of Creation and with Life.

JAUNE AND CINDER - A JOURNEY THROUGH 4 DEATHS

Considering the alchemical deaths so far, they all seem to have 2 major protagonists:

Cinder is the murderer in all 3 scenarios. She kills Pyrrha, Weiss and Penny.

Jaune tries to stop her every time. In this way, he goes through the Gods' gifts.

To be more specific:

Jaune’s arc is about living Pyrrha’s death over and over again with different scenarios and outcomes. This happens so that in the end he can finally overcome it.

So far, it has happened three times and each time has been in the climax of an important battle.

The Battle of Beacon has him witness powerlessly to Pyrrha’s death (lack of knowledge and passivity).

The Battle of Haven has him saving Weiss (creation).

The Battle of Atlas has him killing Penny (destruction).

In short, Jaune and Cinder's arcs are intertwined with the alchemical deaths motif. Why is that so and how it can all come together? This is my theory for now.

Jaune has gained Knowledge and is discovering Creation and Destruction. Once he makes progress in this direction, he will be asked to make a final Choice. Will he choose Creation or Destruction? Well, the "maiden" he will be asked to make this decision about will most likely be Cinder, aka the Red and Final Death. To be more specific, I don't think he will be the one to save Cinder. That is something Ruby has been set up to do. If anything, I think his help will be psychological. He will most likely be the one, who helps Cinder make her final and self-actualizing Choice (aka a sacrifice, which will save the world imo). On this topic, though, I will soon write another short post (it is short posts era :P).

For now, I just wanted to highlight the links between Cinder and Jaune's stories (and they both are linked to Ruby as well... in a sense they are a trio) and how they relate to the alchemical deaths.

some more... xenoblade 3 thoughts (spoilers, chapter 4)

I feel like Eunie is getting more and more depressing things to deal with. Things she can't just openly talk abt and I can already see myself getting sad when things hit her really hard. Also, random, but her saying "Feathers are a bitch to dry" just made her more likeable fsr.

Got to the flute exchange!! the mocap/animation in this part was especially good! The reason for the exchange was different than I expected... I thought it would be as a symbol of their bonds... but nope, it's bcs Mio got her flute from a friend who died in her stead. Said friend was younger than her and she feels like she stole her friend's time. So she wants that this flute is being used for a bit longer and since she will die in two months, she wanted Noah to use it...

Mio actually not being chill anymore abt her dying and getting upset was good and needed but also ofc sad. Noah saying that they should rest for now and her being like "Today we rest. and tomorrow we rest too. and before you know it two months passed and I'm gone." somehow just felt too real : (

The castle was Right There and they had No Reason to go there, so OF COURSE the plot said hey! here's a reason!! so they go there. and it seems like the worst idea. not only bcs that place is probably full with levnises, but also the consuls are there. and the queen. and if she really is melia, she'd probably be extremely strong. oh and ethel and that burning guy are ALSO there. with special mechs. since ethel alone is already considered one of the strongest ppl at all, I really don't see them winning there.

N saying smth like "forcing your rebirth"... it really IS like that huh

Eunie straight up asking Mio "what if your dead friend would also come back as a consul, like joran?" felt so much like a ... thing that the player would assume and that characters would normally not talk abt... but this game is somehow really smart. and it is for once a game that doesn't expect that the player is an idiot. plus, one of the female consuls is called M. mio's friend's name was miyabi...

I'm over 30 hours in and only now found out what a power frame is. they talked abt these things at the very beginning but never bothered to explain. seems they are like exosuits? that enhance physical power. bcs APPARANTLY ppl from keves are physically weaker than ppl from agnus. so ig kevesi are more like normal ppl. and it makes sense but only Mostly? bcs. agnus consists of the races of xb2. which means. Blades and furries. ofc those are stronger. but then again xb2 also had some lame race called human. don't see why those would also be stronger (or maybe they aren't?). but also bcs of this now it rlly makes a lot of sense why lanz would be impressed that sena can wield her big chunky hammer.

fsr they refer to EVERYONE as human? good sir, that person has wings growing from their head. are you sure thats how humans are?

I like that sena cares so much abt mio, even telling noah she's jealous bcs mio never told her Things.

also... been a while but at one point the characters talked abt "that annoying sound" when they are interlinked for a long time. "it sounds like a warning" and they figure to simply stop the interlink then and wonder what would happen if they don't.... this is gonna lead to smth bad and I imagine it could happen in the castle

also I realized kind of really late that mio could in fact actually die. and either be dead for real or be reborn. idk how to feel abt that.

actually not too bad to "sort" my thoughts in this way... going to the castle now.

We all reserve a second chance. Whether it’s something we did or said, a second chance let’s us know that that person learned from their mistakes and can improve with time. The Snake Miraculous let’s us accomplish that. It represents rebirth, patience, intuition, healing and being of a sinister nature. Adrien realized he wasn’t cut out for this kind of power and suggested Luka for it instead (“Desperada”). It was through this power that he also discovered our heroes identities (“Wishmaker”). However, Luka is trustworthy and can keep a secret and if this power were to be in the hands of a villain, they would win! Or would they? Let’s see:

*Intuition-You’d think with almost all the miraculouses that can make you have the high advantage such as the Tiger (“Exaltation”), Monkey (“Derision”), Monarch would be victorious to win, but instead, he failed. Well guess what!? He also has the Snake which resets time in order to try again and counter attacks, but low and behold, HE’S BEEN USING THEM THIS WHOLE F*CKING TIME AND HE STILL FAILED! Whomp! Whomp! Whomp! Ladybugs Lucky Charm power adapts to whatever situation calls for the change and that’s why Butterfly Boy kept losing! That’s the power of luck baby!😉 Wonder if he used the Snake in the other eps like “Migration”?

Nathalie says to just quit already cuz Gabes condition is getting worse (“Destruction”), spreading to his internal organs! Which will eventually lead to “you-know-what” cuz time doesn’t give his body a Second Chance using the Snake Miraculous. He can’t have his akumatized victims use it out of fear they’ll betray and use that miraculous against him and neither he nor Nathalie can use it themselves cuz both are getting weaker and weaker as time goes on and soon they’ll be joining Emilie in a Sleeping Beauty like state! If that’s the case, who’ll watch over Adrien!? His bodyguard!?🤨

Before that question could be answered by the golden boy himself, his gf calls and mentions Max’s mother, Claudie Kanté, the astronaut (“Startrain”), is gonna be testing out a new spaceship AI named Ada in space by Tomoe Tsurugi’s company and then, LIGHT BULB!💡Butterfly Boy gets idea and akumatizes the ship making them believe Claudie is dead and using their sorrow to become Bugfighter! A Transfor- Decepticon like villain that tries to defeat the dynamic duo…….from the statement I just mentioned in the beginning of the Ep, you can tell how this is gonna go, so that’s why I’m not bothering much with writing this review.

To us, we saw how Glaciator and Dark Humor were guided into avoiding defeats by the heroes with Monarch using the Snake Miraculous until “God-knows-how-many-times” he just finally threw his hands and said, “F*ck it!”. We were experiencing the effects with the heroes when those first occurred and those were actually the last attempts! How fun!😁. Ladybugs Lucky Charm power is the most brilliantly used weapon as it produces a new charm to defeat the villains instead of using the same one from last time with the Second Chance power! Wow! Impressive! It’s not just her Lucky Charm, Monarch has also tried separating the dynamic duo, but even that doesn’t make his job easier. He realized this when for that one incident, Astrocat made a Second Chance happen for himself to stop Monarch until he (Monarch) thought of something else. Why didn’t he (Astrocat) take the reconfigured miraculouses when they were just right there!? Eh! They’d probably write something to explain that. Phffft! With each Second Chance, Monarch grows weak, not cuz he doesn’t have the strength to continue to use it, but it worsens his condition which is why Nat told him to lay off. He would’ve listened had he not already succumbed to madness and desperation with every opportunity he saw that may give him a chance to accomplish his goal to bring back Emilie, but his care for his well being and logical thinking was thrown out the window ages ago! (it got to a point where after a few Second Chances, Gabe swallowed his pride and confessed to Tomoe Tsurugi, that he was slowly dying and thus needed Ada’s password to hack her for another one of his schemes….then made her forget the conversation using Second Chance. Guy’s afraid to show vulnerability over here😒) :P. Speaking of logic, when Monarch tried to guide Bugfighter into countering Cosmobugs moves, Bugfighter would question it cuz it didn’t make sense to them thus realizing they’d been duped and free themselves from akumatization (Monarch shut down the biometric sensors to lead Ada into thinking Claudie was dead even though she was inside and when Cosmobug noticed a way to convince Bugfighter that Claudie was alive, without her Lucky Charm, Monarch tried to prevent it from happening, but he couldn’t figure a way to dance around it to Bugfighter cuz why would there be a need for them to do this action if “no one” was in the ship!? Thus, realization, thus defeat, thus he f*cked himself over!). Butterfly Boy isn’t as smart as we thought he was! HA! This also means with each failed Second Chance and Monarch just giving up already, there was no actual akumatized villain this episode! (second to “Cat Blanc”) In the end, Nat tells Gabe to just quit this bad guy business again and just go have a croissant with Adrien while he still has time to be with him and be a good father which looks like he’s willing to try! (long pause and big laughter) YEAH RIGHT! I’ve been spoiled by this season! There’s no way he’s gonna go through with that! (laughter ensues).

〚Academy?〛

Doesn’t question magic cause... You’re a wizard harry!

Crowley: Only those who the Dark Mirror perceives as having a talent for magic are admitted to the college.

Crowley: Those who are selected are summoned to the campus through those “gates”, which can appear anywhere.

Crowley: A black carriage bearing one such gate should have come to meet you.

Crowley: It too beats a gate that connects to this campus.

overview: the bau goes on a team building camping trip but reader and spencer spend most of their time together

a/n: ive been kicking myself for not posting in forever but i think this one is pretty cute! please lmk what yall think :)

the stuffy, eight person suv finally rolled to a stop, the overgrown children that call themselves the bau tumbling out as quickly and gracelessly as possible. Morgan and Reid nearing the end of a 2 and a half minute long slap fight that you happened to be caught directly in the middle of. you looked at jj, pleading to make them stop with her mom powers.

"boys behave or ill ground you both," she sighed, going to help out with taking things out of the trunk.

they immediately stopped, muttering under their breath that the other one started it. but before they could start again, Spencer caught a glance at you. you were taking a deep breath, smiling contently, very clearly happy to get some fresh, forest air. despite being in direct sunlight, your smile was far brighter than anything he'd seen in his whole life.

before he knew it he was being snapped out of his daze and asked to help set up the tents. he was really hoping to have a chance to share a tent with you, like you sometimes had done on cases when hotel rooms were scarce. but he knew that almost everyone wanted a spot in your tent because you're that much fun to be around. Penelope would win, obviously, and he would be paired up with morgan again.

he let out a sigh as he finished up pitching one of the tents, pulling the corner and nailing it into the ground. as he did so, something caught his eye: a pink, round, fat little worm crawled out of the dirt.

his attention was now fully on the worm, ecstatic to see it because he had been reading up on worms for a while. he called morgan and hotch over since they were the closest to him, rambling excitedly all hes learned about them so far. he looked up and could see the disinterest behind their polite smiles. his own smile faltered for a second, until he saw you finishing up pitching a tent.

"im gonna go show y/n. shes gonna love this!" spencer giggled, already walking towards you.

"hey kid i dont know if she-" morgan began.

"reid she might not-" hotch started as well.

but he had already reached you, sticking out his hand and revealing the worm. hotch and morgan looked at each other worriedly, concerned that the tiniest rejection from you, even about something as small as a worm, would tear his heart to pieces.

their faces changed from worry to confusion as they watched a wide grin crack on your face.

"oh! a worm!" you exclaimed gleefully.

they observed as you put your hand out and Spencer dropped the worm in your hand. you watched it wriggle around and would occasionally look up and nod along with his rambling, asking questions and listening intently. hotch and morgan were speechless, knowing full well if they offered a girl they liked a worm, she would not have the same reaction.

you and Spencer started walking back over to the tent, where hotch and morgan tried their best to seem busy. you two were laughing, something about putting the worm back where he found it so it gets home safely. if there was ever any doubt that you and Spencer would be the perfect couple, its completely disintegrated now.

you and Spencer were typically joined at the hip, but after the worm encounter, you two were especially inseparable.

the girls went down by the lake to tan while you and Spencer tried to build a hut out of random sticks and logs you found around the forest. and while the guys were fishing on that same lake, Spencer and you were rock skipping, and he was explaining to you the physics behind it. and you were both scaring away any potential fish for rossi, hotch, and morgan to catch. so you two were banished back into the forest for the time being. when the rest of the team came back, you and him were up in a tree, eating some of the snacks they'd packed, talking and laughing and subconsciously leaning into one another. you didn't need to be a profiler to see the signs. you two were head over heels already, even if you guys didn't know it yet.

after a bonfire full of roasted marshmallows and scary stories, laughs and giggles. it was a wonderful, but tiring night and before you knew it you were getting ready for bed, sharing highlights of the day back and fourth with Penelope.

"i'm picking up on a bit of a pattern," she giggled, wiggling her eyebrows.

you wracked your brain, "what pattern?"

"all of your highlights included a certain adorkable genius."

"what? no we just...he's my best friend so we-cause its fun and i just-" you stammered, feeling your face heat up with every passing second.

"relax my love, i was just teasing," she chuckled, turning over to go to sleep.

"yeah i know. goodnight pen."

"goodnight lovely," she sighed, "but give some thought to lover boy."

you chuckled lightly before whispering to yourself, "trust me i have."

you woke up and checked the time, it was 4:47am but you just could not fall asleep. you crawled out of the tent, grabbing your blanket when you felt the cool morning air rush at you. you didn't want to wake anyone, so you made your way over to the little hill that the suv was parked on, stealing the keys from hotch's bag and crossing to the other side that faced east. the sun would be rising soon, it would be nice to watch; you draped your blanket across your shoulders. you heard footsteps coming from behind you, your blood running cold, immediately assuming the worst.

you turned around and were met with Spencer's sleepy smile. his hair stuck up in all directions and he looked perfectly adorable. you had to resist your urge to give in and kiss him right then and there.

"you scared me!" you whispered, trying to stifle a smile.

"im sorry," he giggled, "why are you up?"

"im not sure i just couldnt fall back asleep. why are you up?" you echoed.

"morgan keeps farting."

you and him let out hearty laughs, quickly covering your mouths as to not wake up the rest of the team.

you faced the car for a second, legs growing tired from standing.

"look how pretty the fogged up windows look," you observed, facing back and fourth between the colorful sky and the muggy version reflecting on the suv. you pressed your hand against the window, leaving a print, "so cold!" you chuckled.

spencer put his hand next your handprint, quickly recoiling, "you werent lying," he laughed, shivering a little.

you looked at the two handprints, his comically larger than yours and you couldnt help but smile to yourself.

"do you want some blanket?" you asked, opening your arms.

"i think im too tall," he frowned, "maybe if i crouch?"

"how about," you dangled the keys infront of your face before opening the trunk of the suv, "front row seats to the sunrise and some blanket."

"that sounds perfect," he smiled, begging his body not to redden his cheeks.

you two crawled into the trunk, draping the blanket across both of your shoulders, being pulled together by the small piece of fabric. you two were completely cuddled together, getting maximum warmth from the blanket and each other's body heat. a comfortable silence floated between you, faint bird songs and the others breathing filling it with peace. you felt your eyelids droop, despite the breathtaking rebirth of the sun happing in front of you. spencer was just so comfortable.

he felt the same way, his head falling to rest on top of yours as sleep pulled at his eyes. he yawned lightly, pulling you closer and breathing you in. you smiled. perfectly content.

about an hour later, hotch woke up, searching frantically for his keys. he ran up to check if the suv was still there, only to be met with your sleeping figures in the open trunk, wrapped up tightly in a blanket, smiles on both of your faces despite being asleep. hotch was good at predicting things, he saw scenarios play out fully before they truly began.

he snapped a picture, knowing it would be put to good use in a few years, he smelled a wedding.

spencer and you spent the drive home smiling like a couple of idiots, grins growing wider each time the sun hit the window just right, revealing your handprints.
