Current Skin Favorites

FACE

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

I absolutely love this cleanser, it cleared up all my acne in a week, fades dark spots super quickly, helps with skin texture and leaves my face feeling clean but not stripped. (The magic ingredient in this cleanser is niacinamide so if you’re sensitive to that, I wouldn’t suggest using it!)

BODY

1. Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Body Butter

My absolute FAVORITE body butter. Super cheap and affordable. Has the best smell, pairs really well with vanilla fragrances. Lightweight enough to be used in the summer but thick enough to be used in rough winters and keeps skin hydrated (I went to college in a country where winter was often -16°C and below: this was a LIFE SAVER). The only reason I don’t use it anymore is because I can’t find it in my country.

2. Cantu Skin Therapy Hydrating Body Cream (Cocoa Butter)

Has a nice cinnamon smell and is the perfect body butter texture. Absorbs easily on damp and dry skin. Leaves my skin feeling extra soft, even if I forget to use it some days. Not as good as the Vaseline Body Butter IMO, but a pretty close second.

3. St Ives Energizing Coconut & Coffee Scrub 

This scrub was too harsh for my face but perfect for my body. Has an amazing smell and is also surprisingly good at keeping my feet soft despite not being as rough as other body scrubs.

4. Dove Soap

It makes me feel clean and doesn’t strip my skin. My favorites scents are the shea butter (with vanilla) and white.

5. Body Oils

I’ve been really into wearing body oils lately. I love layering them with perfume during the day, but it’s my final step before going to bed at night. It helps me feel more relaxed and I sleep much better. My scent of choice the past few weeks has been Pink Sugar.

6. Pedi In A Bag

Really good foot peel that works really well, even if you have very calloused feet (though you may have to use it more than once to get the results you want). The peeling process lasted me about a week, but the results were well worth it. 

7. Aveeno Moisturizing Foot Mask

A nice little pick me up for your feet, but not a necessity. I like to do this a week or two after a foot peel to help maintain the results.

MAKEUP

1. MAC Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick

This is definitely my new favorite foundation. It’s light enough to give a ‘my skin but better’ look but also heavy enough to cover up dark spots with ease. I only put it on my trouble areas. The coverage is buildable (less is more with this if your goal is a natural finish).

You do need to moisturize or prime the skin before use, especially if you have dry skin. You should also set it with your powder of choice.

2. Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder

This keeps my makeup in place FOREVER. My skin as also very oily and this kept it matte much longer than any other setting powder I had ever used. A little does go quite a long way with this.

15. The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan

I’ve finally finished The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. It definitely took longer than I thought it would, not because the books are difficult to read, but because I wanted to take my time with them. Think about them as I read. I remember the first time I read this series, I flew through and I probably didn’t comprehend the material in any significant way.

One thing I noticed about rereading was that we didn’t really get much of our main character’s emotional state. He felt like a blank slate for the reader to imprint themselves on and in some ways that succeeded. Somehow, even without the strong presence of a character that I’ve gotten in other books, Percy still individuates himself throughout the series. This last book has a surprising amount of development, but it focuses almost exclusively on Percy in a way that previous books haven’t necessarily since the first book. This kid is leading a war and learning to see his enemy in a different light. He trusts his friends despite the presence of a spy.

This reread has cemented the series as a personal favorite, probably for the rest of my life. It’s been a decade since I first read the books and my love has never once staggered or faded. I will always carry a part of this world with me no matter how old I get.

Percy Jackson is the best children’s fantasy series and I hope Disney + does it justice.

• "the oc" - i've been loving this show lately! perfect for a relaxing day. i love summer's style sm 🏝

• sun bum's hair oil mist - this smells soooo good, like banana and coconut imo 🥥 it makes my hair super soft, too!

• "thank u, next" fragrance - i got the perfume and body mist at marshall's for way cheaper than it sells for at ulta 😉 and i layer these with love beauty and planet's "cherry blossom and tea rose" body wash & body cream.

• the "vanilla crème brûlée" candle from yankee candle - omg!! this has to be my favorite candle scent, it smells almost like a marshmallow to me! 🍦🕯

well, I can't say I expected the new chapter to feature Idia (metaphorically) going to (metaphorical) hell, getting a pep talk from his (metaphorical) Phantom brother which helps him finally move on once and for all from his brother's death, and (metaphorically) overblotting again to fight his way back out of (metaphorical) hell, only to have his darkest fear (non-metaphorically) come true when his mom goes through his computer and finds all his secret files. but I am glad it did!

also this is all a flashback for the purpose of explaining to our group what the heck is going on (whether or not any of it is getting through is another matter)
