Taking care of Coryo afte the bombing. He's being stubborn and doesn't want to rest and maybe says something hurtful to reader?
I started over three times...I hope you like it
Warnings: mention on bombing and deaths
my taglists are here + you can send requests here at any time

You were sitting by his side when Coriolanus’ eyes slowly opened, stirring from his deep sleep. He shifted in the bed and made a sound of discomfort, his shoulder throbbing.
‘’Easy, you’re gonna hurt yourself,’’ you said, helping him off his stomach and into a more comfortable position.
The scene had been horrifying to watch on the screen of the academy. No one knew exactly what had happened as the area wasn’t a very secured place. The screen had turned black after catching some of the explosions, leaving everyone in the auditorium worried for their fellow classmates — and tributes.
You brushed a hand through his hair, looking down at him. ‘’How are you feeling?’’
Coryo’s eyes met your concerned gaze. ‘’Lucy Gray, is she..?’’ he asked, a fog enveloping his mind.
‘’She is okay,’’ you reassured him. ‘’They took all the remaining tributes back at the Capitol zoo.’’
‘’I’m guessing they’re still going with the games.’’
You nodded. ‘’Do you remember what happened in the arena?’’
Coriolanus winced, trying to piece together the fragments of his memory. ‘’It’s all a blur,’’ he admitted, his brow furrowing. ‘’Explosions, fire and…people were running and more bombs going off. Lucy Gray and I got knocked down when the first bomb exploded. I tried to get back up, but a piece of the arena’s structure fell on me. She came back for me.’’
You gave a sympathetic smile, continuing to run your fingers through his disheveled hair. You had been so worried when Tigris told you a piece of the structure had fallen on her cousin during the bombing. ‘’They were old bombs some rebels must have placed between the end of the last games and now. The area is not well secure, so they could have gotten in at night.’’
Tigris returned shortly with Sejanus behind her. He was bringing information on the tributes and mentors' conditions. Coriolanus nodded as his friend spoke, absorbing the information while you held his hand, stroking the back with your thumb. Four tributes and two mentors had died.
‘’Wherever Marcus is right now, he has more chances at survival than in the arena,’’ Sejanus said, still cursing his father for buying his old friend as tribute. It was sick.
Coriolanus sighed, the weight of the games and the Plinth prize still on his shoulders.
‘’You should rest,’’ you said to Coryo after Sejanus left.
‘’I don’t have time to rest. The games are tomorrow. I need to think of a strategy so I can make my tribute win—’’ He tried to sit up, his face twisting with pain. ‘’Fuck.’’
‘’You don’t care about the girl! I know you’re doing this for the Plinth prize, but no amount of money is worth risking your health for. You need to rest, Coryo.’’
A bitter retort escaped his lips. ‘’Says the one who’s family is bathing in money.’’ He stood, seeking support from the wall as his head began to spin from the concussion. ‘’If I don’t win this money, everyone will know about the Snow family’s downfall. There was an eviction notice on our door last week. Tigris tried to hide it from me, but I saw it. We can barely afford food, how are we gonna pay rent? I need to go to university. I have to support my family. Without the Plinth prize, none of this can happen.’’
His state of panic made his head hurt from the heavy thinking. Coriolanus groaned, the pain intensifying, and released the wall to cradle his head in his hands, causing him to lose balance.  Instinctively, you moved swiftly, grabbing him before he could fall, and guided him back on the bed.
‘’I may not know what it’s like to struggle financially, but don't hold it against me for being born into my family,’’ you said, not allowing him to make you feel bad for your social class. He couldn’t take his frustrations out on you. ‘’I don’t prance around my family’s money like our classmates do, or look down on the less fortunate. If you want to secure this prize, you need to lie back and rest. You can’t make your tribute win if you can’t even stand on your feet.’’
One thing you had learned these past years was that Coriolanus was the most stubborn person you knew. His determination could never be underestimated, a trait that often bordered on obstinacy. It was a crucial part of what made him who he was. Fortunately, you were one of the only people who knew how to reason with him and talk him down when he was being unreasonable. It wasn't always an easy feat, considering his unyielding nature, but you had honed the skill of navigating through his stubbornness.
He let out a sigh of defeat, knowing you were right. ‘’What am I gonna do?’’ Fear and desperation laced his voice, pulling at your heartstrings.
You sat beside him and gently placed your hands on his face. ‘’We’ll figure something out,’’ you promised, letting him know he wasn’t alone. ‘’For now, you’re gonna lie back in bed while I find you something to eat. I can hear your stomach screaming.’’
Coryo managed a faint smile, appreciating your concern. ‘’It’s not that loud...’’
You gave him a look as his stomach betrayed him with a loud noise. ‘’I’ll be right back.’’

Few moments in Alex’s life would stick out like this one. There was a rising panic in her throat, pulsing against her airway. Panic and grief gripped her like icy hands, working to strangle, and she wasn’t sure if what she choked down was a sob or vomit. Her hands trembled as they held the paper. She hadn’t thought of this.
The letterhead read simply, PAST DUE- FINAL NOTICE.
With everything going on, she’d simply forgotten about the matter until she swung by the loft. She should have sent Kelly, should have set up something earlier to deal with this. Kara was six months behind on her rent and she was going to be evicted if she didn’t pay.
Which she never would.
Alex had quietly accepted, about a month ago, that Kara wasn’t coming home, that all their methods had been exhausted, that her sister was lost in an infinite, shattered Phantom Zone, never to be found. She’s finally gotten the martyrdom that she’d been unknowingly seeking since she arrived on Earth.
She was keeping it bottled up, because the others still believed, even Brainy, who had to know the odds.
Alex seethed with a towering rage. There were some nights when, lying awake in Kelly’s arms, she’d fantasize about how she’d punish Clark for failing Kara, or what she’d do to Lex Luthor if she got her hands on him. Sometimes it would even be J’onn she raged at, or Lena.
She saved them all so many times, threw her life and body and soul in front of all them as a shield and took on their misery and suffering on top of her own, and though it was like drops cast in the ocean of Kara Zor-El’s grief, she felt every blow, every loss. Alex’s falling tears stained the letter as she thought of every time Kara paced this apartment, excoriating herself for her failures whenever she couldn’t be in five disasters at once.
Alex didn’t want her to be a superhero. She didn’t want that need to throw herself between others and their own suffering to consume Kara’s life, but it had.
Not for the first time, Alex wished that Kara had just stayed on the ground and let her plane crash. It was a selfish, hateful impulse. Kara would never have let it happen and even if she had, something would have prompted her to put on that red and blue costume and fly. It was what she was for.
Alex raged anyway. Fuck that little shit Wynn for making her a costume. The little pervert probably just wanted to make her try shit on to see her half naked. Fuck J’onn for recruiting her, fuck Clark for abandoning her… and… and…
The paper crumpled and so did Alex, sobbing. This was all her fault. If only…
“Alex?”
She hadn’t heard Lena come in. She’d long ago given up heels. Hell, shed given up. She was a wearing a hoodie that Alex knew was Kara’s and her hair was in a loose ponytail at the base of her neck, and if asked when she last ate or sleep, she’d have lied. Alex already knew the answer: she ate when someone remembered to feed her and she slept on a cot in her lab as she tortured herself.
Lena was the only one that Alex couldn’t rage at because Lena was already punishing herself. Kara would be furious if she knew how they were letting Lena treat her health.
Without a word, Lena gently grasped the letter and Alex released it.
Lena read it, frowning.
Then she pulled out her phone.
“Jess, I have a task for you. I’m going to send you a pic of an eviction letter. I want you to pay off the back rent.”
“Lena,” Alex began.
Lena waved her off.
“I want the building. Set up some shell companies. No one can know it’s me. Try to negotiate so it looks legit, but they can name their price. I want it done by tonight.”
Lena hung up.
“This is her place,” Lena said, softly.
“You didn’t have to do that,” said Alex.
“Yes, I did. This is her place. She deserves to come back to it,” Lena dropped onto the sofa beside her. “I will never give up. I don’t care if I’m still trying to bring her home when I’m old and gray, it’ll be worth it to see her one more time.”
Alex felt a wave of grief overwhelming her.
“Besides,” Lena forced cheer into her voice. “I spent a billion dollars so I could hang out with her at work. What’s an apartment building?”
Alex jolted. It was as if she watched a wine glass, which had toppled and shattered and cast its contents across the floor, leap back into position. As if the shards of crystal returned to their proper places and the cracks sealed, and the wine splashed back to its proper place, not a single shimmering golden drop lost. When the understanding snapped into place, it was like a lightning bolt. She felt too large for her skin, and the fine hairs at the back of her neck stood, as though bearing a charge.
Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. Lena was in love with Kara.
She could see it now. The love radiated from every pore of Lena’s skin, undulled by the grief that draped her like a nighted cloak, as gold shimmered untarnished beneath dust. Alex’s heart was about to break again.
“I have to get back to the lab.”
“Why are you here?” Alex said, softly.
“I was… I’ve been spending the night. I should have asked. I’m sorry.”
“Kara would want you to.”
Kara would want you to move on, Alex thought. She would want you to find someone and be happy and think only of her in fond memories. She would gladly martyr herself for you, too. You above all. She never stopped defending you even when…
Now there were two wine glasses, side by side, almost touching but not quite, promising a toast unsaid.
Oh.
Oh God.
Alex launched off the couch and threw her arms around Lena, holding her tight. Lena recoiled a little; she seemed to dislike hugs, almost like she didn’t understand them, even as she’d melted in Kara’s embrace dozens of times.
How had she been so blind?
“We’ll get her back,” Alex said.
“We will,” said Lena.
Later, Alex stood off to the side, her veins singing with unbridled joy after Kara released her from a full on, no-powers bear hug. She watched as the others embraced her and slapped her back and welcomed her home while Lena stared at here like she couldn’t believe she was real.
Limping, haggard, Kara suffered their joys with quiet reserve, pushing a little closer to her ultimate destination with each one until she stood in front of Lena.
The hug was awkward, tentative, but Kara thrust herself into it after a hesitant moment and Lena molded against her, the pair standing cheek to cheek a beat too long. Lena pulled back and Kara pulled after her, leaning in, only to dance back and do that awkward little shift.
“Kara,” Alex blurted. “For fuck’s sake, just do it.”
Kara looked at her, wide-eyed and a little betrayed. Kara was beyond honest to a fault: Alex knew that after Kara nervously told her about the infamous “I flew here on a bus “ incident. Kara was honest to the core of her very being, sickened by the act of lying.
To Alex’s surprise, it was Lena’s hands on Kara’s shoulders that turned her away. Kara looked back and her and Lena brought her hands to Kara’s cheeks, resting her palms against the abnormally pale skin of her face. Kara froze for two heartbeats and then gently put her hands on Lena’s sides and pulled her in, there bodies slotting together as their lips found one another, Kara leaning over Lena a little more with the added height of her boots as Lena collapsed into her, tears glittering on her cheeks. The kiss carried on until Alex cleared her throat.
Everyone in the room was stunned save Alex.
“Guys,” she said, “let’s give them a little privacy, huh? We can celebrate later.”
As the others filed out of the room, Lena raised her head from where it had lain on Kara’s shoulder and mouthed a silent thank you.

SHOTO, IZUKU, AND KATSUKI. The top three most amazing and well known pro heros who were well loved by their fans had a little secret. They had a pretty little wife who was carrying one of their babies. Katsuki decided that he was going to be the one to get her pregnant first, the other two had no problem with that. After months of trying and no show she was finally pregnant and all four of them were so happy to finally have their first kid.
It’s been 9 months already and their precious baby girl has yet to leave her place within her mamas tummy.
Y/N rubbed her swollen belly as she did her rotations on her exercise ball. Katsuki’s mom was here helping her out with the little things that she needed. Mitsuki loved her from the moment Katsuki introduced them and now that she’s going to have a little grandchild she was even more happy with her future daughter in law.
"Y/N honey. The boys are calling again."Mitsuki said as she walked in from the kitchen to the living room rolling her eyes. “This is the fourth time they’ve called in the last hour.” Mitsuki chuckled.
"They're so worried that you're going to pop before they get back." Y/N grabbed the phone from, Mitsuki’s hand and put it up to her ear.
“Hello?” “Hey, baby. You doing okay?” Y/N rolled her eyes even though he couldn’t see her. “Yes I’ve been okay since the last time you called.” She heard him chuckle. “Okay. You’re a little worked up. What happened? Sick of us calling?” Y/N giggled. “Nope, never. I can’t even miss or worry about you guys because you’re too busy calling all the time instead of focusing on your task that you three were sent to do.” Before Izuku could respond she heard the faint voice of someone talking to him. “Oi? Is that Curls?” Katsuki of course.
Y/N heard what sounded like the phone being snatched away from Izuku. “Oi, Curls! If you ever hand up in my face again we’re gonna have some problems when I get back home, you hear me?” Y/N chuckled. “Yes sir.” She heard the blonde kiss his teeth before handing the phone back to Izuku.
“Sorry, bout that. Anyways you’ve got some scolding to do to Katsuki anyways.” “Don’t you dare tell her about that!” She could tell Izuku rolled his eyes. “He was being careless today and almost lost his leg.” Katsuki grumbled. “ ‘Was not bein’ fuckin’ careless. ‘The hell was I s’posed to know he was gonna turn his leg in to a fuckin’ chain saw?!” Y/N pursed her lips. “Y’know if you two are done bickering we have matters to attend too.”
Shoto said out of nowhere. “That’s right. Well baby, look like we gotta go. We’ll see you next week, hopefully.” Katsuki butted in. “Yeah so tell the brat to avoid her eviction notices till then.” Y/N laughed. “I’m sure she heard you, Kat. I’ll see you boys next week. I love you.” “We love you more baby.” Then the phone clicked and the call was over.
Y/N sighed. She truly did miss them. Sure she enjoyed the company of her soon to be in laws, but she missed her boys. It was quiet and peaceful while they were away and she hated that. The bed was always cold and empty and she also hated that but it still smelled of them and she could at least appreciate that. So did the large shirt that she borrowed from Shoto’s side of the closet.
The boys had already been gone for two weeks and they’d be back home next week but it doesn’t feel like Blossom can wait any longer to be out in the world. Her eyes trailed over towards the belly cast that she had gotten done. The boys had decorated it all pretty and even drew a little family of four on it in Katsuki’s terrible excuse of a drawing. She’d never tell him that though because even if it was bad it’s still cute and still has meaning to it. She can still even feel their careful hands on her stomach.
Izuku’s hands are the most scarred and a little calloused but still firm and calming. Katsuki’s hands being the most calloused and somehow a bit sweaty from time to time. Sho’s hands were the softest but were always cold.
She missed the special treatment and massages they’d give her before they left. They were very caring and spoiling.
It’s been like this since they’ve found out that she was pregnant. They couldn’t be home for her, they had their moms take care of her. Then when they came home for the night, they’d be all over her because in their words, “you look so cute when you’re pregnant.
She smiled softly at Mitsuki as she smelled the cooking of her favorite food. It’s getting later and later and there was a storm outside brewing. She didn’t want her poor boys caught outside in the rain.
"Y/N, Inko sent some more clothes for Blossom." Mitsuki smiled as she handed them to her. “Awe. We’re going to run out of space in her little closets.” Y/N held the shirt to her stomach. “Do you like it, B?” Y/N suddenly winced at a sharp pain in her stomach. “Okay, I’ll put it away.” But the pain kept coming. Mitsuki helped Y/N up carefully and at that very moment, her water broke.
Mitsuki immediately started to call phones. "Inko, Rei! It's happening! I need you here now! The babies coming!"
Mitsuki was rushing around the house to get the bags ready and extra clothes before helping her soon to be daughter in law towards the car.
Once they arrived after some time Mitsuki rushed in to get a nurse and she came back with a nurse who had a wheelchair ready and the both of them helped Y/N out of the car in to the chair and she was wheeled in and rushed towards the maternity floor. They put her in a room and went to go get things ready for her.
“Where the fuck are they going?!” Y/N whimpered out as one if her hands held her stomach while her other arm was draped across her face. Rei and Inko walked in. "They're going to get everything ready. More doctors and your epidural for your pain, Honey."Inko responded and Y/N hummed in pain.
“Did you call the boys?” Rei asked and Mitsuki nodded her head as she tried to get Y/N comfortable and situated. "Yes but they're not answering. I think they're too busy in what they're doing."
Rei let out a soft okay before looking at the clock on the wall. 12:03 AM it read. A nurse came back in and injected her with the medicine but it didn’t have time to do its job because right after the doctors came in and it was time for her baby girl to come out in to the world.
Everything went smoothly. (beside the three mothers having to stop Y/N from attacking the nurse. Twice. First time because if her giving her the epidural late and second because the bitch almost dropped her baby.) when Blossom was all cleaned up it was about. 2:19 when Y/N got to hold her baby and feed her.
She was so pretty. Her skin was a mix between Y/N and Katsuki and her hair was blonde and straight but Y/N was sure that her curls would come in soon. Last but not least her eyes her round and (e/c) just like her moms as she looked up at her through her blonde eyelashes. The three mothers huddled around Y/N to look at their granddaughter. "Awe. She's so pretty." Inko cooed softly. “I’ve got to get pictures.” Rei gushed and both her and Inko rushed to their purses to get their phone out while Mitsuki stayed by Y/N.
"Do you want me to get her so you can rest?" “Yes please, if you don’t mind.” Mitsuki took Blossom and soon after, Y/N was knocked out.
Izuku was the last person to get out of the bath for that morning. They’d been up since midnight going on a fake lead, practically wasting their time all night. Izuku grabbed what he thought was his phone but noticed that it was Katsuki’s. “Hey, Kachaan? You’ve got 10 missed calls from your mom.” Katsuki raised an eyebrow as he set down his freshly cooked spicy ramen.
He went to his call log and clicked on his mom’s name in face time. "Hello?" His mom’s face showed in the camera. “You called 10 times?” He said unamused. Thinking that it was just her being worried and paranoid again. "Well, I needed to tell you something." Katsuki hummed. “Kay?” The camera flipped around and Katsuki saw blonde hair then the phone fell to the floor as his mom let out an agitated ‘damn it’ before picking it up and a sleeping baby was shown.
“Is that?” "Yep." Inko cut off her son. “That’s Blossom guys!” The boys mouths dropped. Their daughter was so pretty just like her mommy. After that face time call that day the boys had to call off the mission to get home to their girls immediately.
Y/N was released from the hospital two days before they could come home so when they made it back they instantly without a second thought came straight home and they finally got to see their daughter. Blossoms little hair started to curl up a little so she most definitely started to look like Y/N.
Katsuki was the first to hold her and she was so small Katsuki feared that he might break her. Izuku and Shoto walked towards Katsuki, standing on either side of him as they looked down at their daughter. “She most definitely looks like a Blossom.” Shoto spoke softly as the little baby curiously looked at the three men.
Their moms smiled at them. "Congrats boys!" Mitsuki had tears in her eyes as little sniffles came out. "Oh my goodness. I'm finally a grandma! I'm never gonna get over this!" She cried into Inko’s shoulder and Inko patted her back comfortingly. “I wanna hold her next.” Izuku held his arms out and Katsuki carefully handed Blossom to him. Once he was secure in his arms, Katsuki turned towards Y/N.
He smiled softly and he walked over towards her giving her a kiss on her cheek. He watched the others coo over the little blonde haired baby.
“Thank you so much, baby.” Three months later, the world knew about their two girls after Izuku had posted a video of Blossom giggling away at Katsuki and Shoto making silly faces at her while Y/N just watched in the background with a big smile on her face. That video was the most brought up topic in their latest interviews and they didn’t mind at all telling the world about their girls.

AITA for lying to my friends due to a psychological disorder?
Ever since I (21F, american) was quite young (I would say around my 9 or 10 years) my mother noticed I had a tendency for lying, sometimes even for no reason at all. Some years after that I started going through therapy and psychiatric sessions and was diagnosed as bipolar and, more specifically, mythomania (compulsive/pathological lying, the diagnostic changed depending on which psychiatrist I went through). My manic episodes usually last longer than the depressive ones and, when those happen, I usually just lock myself from everyone in my bedroom (I rarely leave home even during manic episodes due to my own fear of anything bad that could happen outside)
And I'd say it's during those manic episodes that the bad things start to happen. Ever since my early 17s I started fabricating my own life to online friends since I have extreme difficulty making friends on real life. This ranged from stuff such as me saying that I'm disabled and that's why I don't leave my house (not true, I can do it when necessary but otherwise I am able bodied) and other simple, white lies to stuff like my relationship with my family and living condition.
It was in 2021 I think it started to go downhill. I still don't think I was in the wrong for it since, again, it is a mental disorder but I decided to come ask others too since the one friend I have that knows about it thinks I might be an asshole about this in specific.
Around 2021 I started playing a specific game with gacha mechanics. To this point, the image I had painted to most online friends (with the exception of that one friend) was of a girl on her 20s with a good relationship with her mother but a bad one with both her dad and brother (a lie, as our dad left us when we were children and I have a pretty good relationship with my brother), disabled and in bad living conditions. Because of that, it had been some time (since the beginning of the lockdown) since some of these friends started sending me money whenever I said I needed it for one reason or another (usually to buy food or necessities like hygiene products) and, since I didn't need it at all, I would just end up using it on stuff I enjoy like art supplies or makeup.
The moment I started playing that game though (which none of my friends knew about since they still thought I didn't have my own computer), I started spending all of that money on the game to pull for characters. It wasn't a constant thing but it got specifically bad on 2022, when a character I really enjoy was released.
I still think it's not that bad since none of them gave me a lot of money anyways, but after what I already had was spent on the game and I didn't have any money to buy the currency, I went to the discord servers venting channel and started writing by impulse stuff like how my dad had evicted me and me alone from the house after I stood up to him and now I was living in my cramped old car on the streets with no food, clothes etc. Some of those friends got extremely worried or something like that and ended up sending me more money than usual so I could 'pay for a hotel' until I had time to get government support etc (I don't really know how that works anyways, but I said I'd try and thanked them a lot for it and said that as soon as I was safe I'd draw something for them as payback but I never did because it wasn't really like it was a commission anyways) and I spent it on the game to get the character and I did!
I had to keep the lie about being homeless and then getting government support ever since and last month me and my "real life partner" (not real but i made it up a few months before this so i just used it as a excuse that he was working to get us both a place to stay) were finally in a safe apartment. However, one of those online friends knew about my condition and started to suspect about it all and got angry at me for no reason, saying that I was stealing from my friends and being unfair on even denying that to her. After that she blocked me but I was able to lie to the server that she had threatened me and implied I was lying about it all which wasn't true because that was my real living situation.
I still don't think I am in the wrong, they all did offer it to me on their own after all and I already spent it so there's nothing I can do. Am I the asshole for lying due to a mental health condition?
What are these acronyms?

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐀𝐋𝐂𝐀𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐘
synopsis: you and kaveh were best friends for years, studying together at the akademiya and working side by side as established architects. after the devastating incident at the palace of alcazarzaray that leads to a harsh falling out, neither of you have seen each other for years. it isn’t until one day, when a multi-millionaire offers the two of you a job that could flip your lives around, that you’re forced to reconcile and maybe even become something more
characters: kaveh x gn! reader
wc: 10k
warnings: angst, fluff, ex best friends to lovers, arguments, drinking, mentions of vomiting and blacking out, mentions of being drunk/ tipsy/ alcohol in general (nothing major), swearing, inaccurate and unrealistic depictions of architecture, probably general writing errors (since this is 10k words and i’m not proofreading it three times)
notes: um so basically i got this idea one day when i was staring at the genshin map and then suddenly an entire plot just entered my brain. and y’all know i love writing fics that somehow shove the reader into the lore and then have a super angsty dynamic with one of the characters 💀 anyway, this somehow ended up being like 10k words and took me 3-4 months to finish, but i told myself i had to finish it before fontaine came out, so here it is!

“Delivery!”
The sound of beads being pushed aside and footsteps padding against the wood floors alert you quickly. Your head rises from the arm it was leaning on to meet the face of the mailman who never failed to show up weekly with a smile on his face. It’s friday and it’s dark out, the moon peers through the window, but this happens every week. Same day, same time. Always the last delivery. Always at 8 PM sharp.
Your hand reaches to the left to dip the pen you’re holding into the black liquid in the tiny pot by your elbow. Without hesitation, you’re signing off on the sheet of paper he’s given you. When you return it, you find him giving you a smile and placing the boxes and a few neatly stacked envelopes on the counter. He walks out soon after and you call out to him, “Thanks for stopping by!”
But as soon as he’s out of your eyesight, the smile on your face drops back into the bored expression it was in before he entered your shop. A sigh escapes you as you carelessly sort through the mail, tossing the boxes to the side to look through later, already knowing it was just shipments of product for your tiny store. If you were being honest, you were ready to just set all of it to the side and head home for the night, but you carried on. Dark bags and gentle creases made theirselves at home around your eyes as you stared down at the envelopes. A deep exhale falls from your mouth as you tear each and every one of them open to look at their contents. Most of it is nothing new, aside from the very last one that has bright red peeking through the paper.
EVICTION NOTICE
“Fuck,” you angrily mutter to yourself, “this better be some sort of sick joke.” But it becomes very apparent it isn’t a joke as your eyes scan over it. There’s a burning sensation behind them when you finish reading it. It lands harshly against the counter when you slam it down, crumpling a bit at the middle. You knew you were barely making ends meet, but this? This was a whole new level. The house you had been renting was small. It barely even fit you and the little things you had left after selling most of it off. The rent was cheaper and the place wasn’t great, but it worked. If you were being evicted from this, where were you supposed to go now?
The shop you had was too small and wasn’t safe for sleeping in anyway. The thought of crashing at one of your friend’s place crosses your mind, but having to rely on them sounds less than appealing. Besides, many of them would be far too inconvenient. Tighnari had been a long time friend of yours, but he lived too far from the city which meant you wouldn’t be able to get to work on time. Same with Candace, or even Dehya, who resided in the desert. Of course, there was Nilou who was always wiling to offer you help, but you know her place isn’t big enough for two people and she needed her space for dancing. Then there was Alhaitham. That option was an absolute no for many reasons, but mainly because of the fact that he lives with your ex-best friend who was the entire reason you were in this mess.
“Ahem,” someone awkwardly clears their throat in front of you.
You jump back and away from the counter where the cursed piece of paper sat. The notice had completely distracted you from the fact that someone had walked in. Noticing you had knocked down an envelope in your sudden retreat, you reach down to pick it up while addressing the person, “I apologize, but we’re closing in around two minutes. I’m afraid you’ll have to come back tomor—“
Your sentence falls short as you rise from the floor. Red eyes stare back at yours, one of the prettiest shades of red you have ever seen. You could never forget those eyes.
Speak of the Devil.
The blood in your body runs cold when reality finally smacks you in the face, “Why are you here, Kaveh.”
It’s less of a question and more of a demand. You watch as his brows furrow and you can’t help but wonder if he was expecting you to be friendly with him. If he was, it wouldn’t surprise you. Kaveh was always like that — trying to see the best in people no matter the situation.
“It’s…uh, it’s been awhile,” he stumbles over his words awkwardly. It’s unlike him, you think. From what you can remember of him, he never really stuttered or mumbled unless he was drunk. Loud and clear was always more of his thing. He wanted to make sure he was known. Maybe he changed, but for the sake of his own good, you really wish he hasn’t.
“Yeah, it has,” you purse your lips as you turn around and take the boxes the delivery man had brought to the tiny back room of the shop. Earlier you decided you would deal with them tomorrow, but honestly, you’d rather deal with them right now than with your ex-best friend, “I won’t ask again. Why are you here?”
Kaveh clears his throat and averts his eyes. You watch as his hands begin to interlock and fiddle with each other. His weight keeps shifting from one side to another as he speaks, “I need your help.”
You look at him incredulously and scoff, “No.”
“What? You haven’t even heard what I have to say yet!”
“I said no,” you stand firmly, furrowing your brows at him as you gesture to the shop around you, “Don’t you see what my life has become? I don’t care what you want or need help with, I’m not helping you.”
Kaveh glances around at all the little shelves. There’s a bunch of tiny models and little figurines, things he assumes you designed yourself. You were always talented at that sort of stuff. He preferred the flat blueprints while you had a knack for creating 3D models filled with details like no other. It was no wonder you had used that ability to your advantage.
He notices how small it is. There’s other vendors around your shop, he noticed them as he came in. They all had bigger shops with more shelves and more room, better organization even. He liked yours though. As much as Kaveh enjoyed extravagance, the warm home vibe your store gave outmatched the others. It reminded him so much of the way you made him feel back then. Even so, he can’t help but see what you were talking about. This store isn’t what your talent should be wasted on when you were destined for far more. Both of you were. Yet here you are, both barely scraping by.
“I know and I don’t really have the right to be asking you for this, but will you please just hear me out first?” He begs with desperation in his eyes. You sigh and look off to the side before giving him a slight nod, a gesture for him to continue on.
“There’s a man named Zakai, a multi-millionaire businessman here in Sumeru who’s looking to have a custom mansion made for himself and his pregnant wife,” he explains. It’s beginning to sound all too familiar far too quickly and you can feel your willingness to let him explain slipping away from you.
“Kaveh.”
“Just listen, okay. He sought me out but wanted you too. Said something about admiring our work on the Palace of Alcazarzaray and he wants something similar but smaller with a different look.”
“Are you joking? No. There’s no way,” you refuse, waving your hands in the air as you shake your head.
Kaveh continues to plead his case though, “He’s not like Dori, I swear! He actually has empathy and his request is a lot more reasonable. Besides, there’s a lot of money involved in this. Even split between us. It would cover the debt we owe. Guaranteed.”
“You’re empathetic, Kaveh, and you’re a perfectionist. Millionaires don’t care about us. Can’t you see where this is heading? I don’t know about you, but I am not very fond of the fact that I’m wasting my life away trying to work off an insane amount of debt. What happens if another mistake occurs in the process? Hm? Our lives will be ruined ten times more than they were last time and I’m not willing to take that risk.”
“Ten times worse? Really?” He exasperatedly scoffs, throwing his hands up in the air dramatic as ever, “Of course I hate how I live right now. I mean, c’mon! Honestly, who wouldn’t? But you and I both know we don’t really have anything left. Take a look around you and tell me you wouldn’t take the chance to get out of this mess.”
The glare you’re sending him is icy cold, Kaveh falters a bit under it, but you both know he’s right. There’s a plate full of money right in front of your face and you’re so close to being able to call it yours, and yet you’re denying it? A life without debt is nothing but a dream to you at this point, one you’ve had nightly since you watched all your money slide away from you and down into Dori’s mischievous little hands.
Kaveh tests the waters when he speaks again after the brief silence, “You’re the only other architect in Sumeru that is capable of working on this job. You saw what we accomplished on the palace. We can do it again, no mistakes this time. And if it does happen…then I’ll take the fall for it. I’ll take the fall for all of it.”
Your brows furrow and you sigh for what felt like the thousandth time. The small part of you that was his best friend from all those years ago reaches out to him, “You know I can’t accept that, Kaveh. We may not be friends anymore, but I’m not going to watch you destroy yourself all over again if something goes wrong.”
“Please,” he pleads, entirely brushing off your words, “I’m doing this for the both of us. If you want out at any point, then we’ll back out together. Just…consider the offer, okay?”
The red from the letter catches your eye again and something suddenly feels like it’s pulling at your heart. An eviction notice followed by a job offer promising wealth feels like one big coincidence, but it’s not one you can ignore. You really didn’t have anything left now — aside from the tiny store you had going. And if this does turn out to be a success, your life would be entirely back on track to what it was all those years ago. You could live freely again.
One more glance at Kaveh finalizes your decision.
“I’ll do it.”
Tumblr media
The next few times you meet with Kaveh seem to bleed well into the night. Blueprints are scattered across the floor of your shop during the after hours, a closed sign out front. Your legs are crossed over one another and your head rests atop your hand. Kaveh is standing up, muttering words you can’t quite make out.
“No…that won’t do, but…well? Dark wood? Ugh…wait! No, nevermind,” he paces back and forth, sifting through papers in his hands.
You place the outline you were looking at on the floor and glare at him coldly, “Can you stop? I can’t focus.”
Kaveh sighs and sets down the blueprints he was holding in his hand, “Sorry, I just can’t make up my mind.”
“Clearly,” you mutter.
“Here,” he picks up a pile of sketches off the table and hands them to you, “What do you think of the wood choices on these? Oh, and the color of the paint we’d use on the outside.”
Your eyes inspect them carefully as you flip through each one. They’re all relatively the same aside from a few of them. The ones that stand out the most to you are the simple ones. They’re darker and more elegant looking, exactly what this guy seemed to want. On the other hand, the rest of them are more flashy and had an air to them you couldn’t seem to take a liking to.
You slide him two of the papers, side by side and tap each of them simultaneously, “These two. They’re cost effective and fit what he wants. I say we go this route, but maybe with some slight changes.”
“What? No! Those should’ve been scrapped,” Kaveh’s eyes widen at your choice. He scrambles to grab the papers back but you slam your hand down on them before he can.
You squint your eyes, “What do you mean? These practically check everything off his list. How are we going to deny the client what he wants?”
Kaveh groans and a hand slides down his face, “These don’t even look rich. It barely screams money at all! We’re making a house for a rich man and you want to do something this simple?”
“Yes! This is literally what he wants! And it does look rich. Just because something isn’t bursting with color and fancy embellishments everywhere does not mean it doesn’t have opulence to it!”
Kaveh’s face visibly falls at your response and he can’t help but be reminded of all those years ago when you were still friends. Sure you still argued then, but it wasn’t like now. You weren’t hostile toward him and he could stand to make some changes based on your suggestions. But now, it felt like everything was going in one ear and out the other.
“What if we compromise?” he asks regretfully, not willing to give up what he wants, but still wanting to get this job done. Contrary to his cynical and provocative roommate, arguing was not something Kaveh enjoyed, and Kaveh didn’t want to strain your relationship any more than it already was.
You hesitantly nod and point to each of the sketches, “Okay, which parts?”
“Keep it extravagant, use cheaper materials?”
“No, I just said that isn’t what Mr. Zakai wants.”
“Well then what are we supposed to do?”
You roll your eyes when he isn’t looking. Sometimes it felt like you were arguing with a child.
“Simple. Choose the more plain design and maybe add a few more embellishments, while keeping it cost effective.”
Kaveh inwardly groans, but stops himself from saying anything else. He thinks for a moment, going back and forth between different ideas in his head. There’s a temptation to just grab the sketches and run off with them, leave you in the dust and forget all about your past with each other. It’s the same part of him that sits on his shoulder, whispering in his ear that maybe, just maybe, all of this is a mistake.
The other part yearns. It’s something he can’t help as he stares down at the sketches, but really, he’s looking at you from his peripheral vision. He misses the way things were when you were best friends. When you would laugh for hours on end with each other, talk about the big mansions you would build for each other some day, and the lives you were going to have. All of those visions, every thought he used to have, they all included you.
Kaveh doesn’t remember when things got so bad between you. Yes he knows the exact date, the time, the place it all went down. But when did you start really hating each other? When did your smile begin to fade into a frown whenever he showed up? And when did he start feeling a painful ache in his chest whenever your name was mentioned?
Why do things have to be the way they are?
Kaveh shuts the door in the temptation’s face. He wasn’t going to run from you or shove everything aside like he normally would. If he was granted any wish in the world, it wouldn’t be to get rid of his debt or become the richest man in the world. Because Kaveh would let himself he the poorest man in the world if it meant he could be with you again.
Mr. Zakai had come to him with an opportunity of wealth and opulence. It would make them one in the same if he could play his cards right. Wipe away his debt and his past. He could be free again. But more than that, Kaveh would have you back.
And as his ruby red eyes catch yours once more, he realizes there is nothing more that he wants than you.
Tumblr media
“Wow, I mean, Archons. This design is just unbelievable.”
Your eyes widen ever so slightly, not quite sure if you should be scared or relieved. Mr. Zakai’s tone doesn’t give away what he’s feeling, and you’re terrified. Kaveh swears he can feel you shaking next to him in anticipation…or maybe it was the anxiety. He glances once your way and then back to Mr. Zakai before glancing at you again and awkwardly laughing, “Ahaha, I hope that’s a, uh, good ‘unbelievable?’”
Mr. Zakai throws his hands in the air and laughs brightly, “Yes, yes! Of course! This design is utterly beautiful. It’s like you took the picture from my mind and captured it right onto a piece of paper.”
Both of you sigh of relief simultaneously, clutching a hand over your hearts, but smiling nonetheless. “That’s wonderful to hear,” you say and gesture to the open land behind you that has long since been designated as the construction site for his home, “If you’d like, we can get to building as soon as possible. We already have a team prepared and everything. Just say the word.”
“Let us begin!” he cheers.
Tumblr media
Beginning to build the actual mansion was like a dream come true for an architect. The smoothness at which everything was running was beyond belief for the both of you. All of the materials had been safely delivered with care, and although they weren’t the best of the best, they without a doubt exceeded Kaveh’s expectations. Alongside that, the plot of land being used was absolutely beautiful and the perfect place for a home.
It was a perfect distance from the main city, nothing too arduous to travel to. There was a beautiful lake nearby that was adorned with various flowers, fish, and fruit trees surrounding it. And the best part, there weren’t any cliffs or waterfalls nearby. No signs of a withering zone either. It was something Kaveh had specifically checked for before accepting the job, terrified of having a repeat of the entire incident that put you both in this mess.
It had only taken around a week and a half for the skeleton of the mansion to be built. But already, it was turning out wonderfully. Thanks to the team both of you had and your newfound ability to compromise with one another, both of your guys’ morale had been boosted immensely. Things were finally beginning to look up.
“It’s beautiful,” you whisper in awe, staring at the team working on the house just feet away from you. Kaveh stands next to you, clipboard in hand and a pen eagerly scribbling away at the paper on it.
His eyes look up from the papers he was shuffling through to glance at the house and then glance back at you, “It really is, huh? I’m glad we were able to compromise on the final design. I think it’s turning out really great.”
“And to think you wanted all those embellishments,” you laugh as you reminisce.
Kaveh scoffs and leans into your shoulder with his, “Shut up. Sometimes the blueprint version isn’t a good representation of the final product. How was I supposed to know your ideas would look so good?”
“Oh? What was that?” you cup your hand around your ear and smirk, leaning into him, “Is that you finally admitting my ideas are better than yours?”
“Hey! That is not what I said.”
“I think it is. Just admit it, my dear friend, I have always been the better architect.”
My dear…friend?
Kaveh stops in his place, blinking at your words. He breathes out and looks to the ground. He isn’t sure what you mean. Perhaps it was a slip up or just a joke, but he chooses not to take it seriously in order to protect his feelings. So he teases you, ignoring the slight ache in his heart, “Oh, so now we’re friends again?”
“Ugh, please. I couldn’t be friends with an architect that isn’t on my level,” you jest. It was indeed a slip up on your end, and you realized it the moment you said it, but like Kaveh, you knew it would be better to just brush it off. Push it aside along with any other newfound positive feelings you had toward your old friend.
“Pft, yeah right,” he rolls his eyes and turns away from you again. You both begin walking toward the house, ready to tell everyone that it’s time to pack it up for the night. The sun would be completely set in about an hour and you knew they all had families to get back to. Besides, both of you were tired and you weren’t even the ones building the damn thing. You couldn’t imagine how tired they were if you were already feeling exhausted.
Footsteps dragging against the gravel alerts the crew of your presence and they all realize what time it is. Several of them hop down from the upper layers while the rest of them begin picking up their things from the ground floor. Many of them already begin to bid one another a “goodnight,” and “get home safely.”
“Great work today, guys!” you excitedly call out to them.
Kaveh smiles a bit and joins you, clapping his hands together as he reminds them, “Please go home and get some rest. We have a busy rest of the week from here on out! We’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
Before either of you can walk away, one of the girls that was working on the building rushes up to you both, “Sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to let you guys know about the progress.”
You recognize her as one of the leaders for the construction crew when you turn around. She was in charge of the more specific areas of progress when it came to the actual building aspect, while you and Kaveh had oversight on the entire thing.
“Oh?” Kaveh confusedly asks, unsure of what she had to share, “What about it? Is something the matter?”
“No, no! Nothing bad. I just wanted to let you know that at this rate, the house should be completed within three months. We’re making an exponentially great amount of progress, especially with the wonderful crew we have working on it. You guys should be proud of yourselves,” she smiles.
You and Kaveh quickly turn and high-five each other, pleased with what she was saying. But as quick as it came, it was gone. Simultaneously, you clear your throats and take a step back from one another.
“Ahem, I um — thank you! That means a lot,” you say through a strained smile that doesn’t quite reach your eyes. Kaveh doesn’t say anything.
Instantly, the girl can feel the awkward tension in the air and takes a step back herself.
“Of course, I’ll uh, be going now. Have a goodnight!”
When she walks off, Kaveh turns back to you hesitantly, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to do that.”
“Let’s just pretend that never happened, yeah?”
He hums in agreement and starts to walk alongside you, “But, hey, I was thinking. She is right, you know? We should be proud of our progress so far. Maybe we could go to the tavern tonight? But only if you want, of course!”
You pause, but nod slowly, “Yeah…yeah okay. We can do that.”
“Really?” Kaveh tilts his head to the side, not quite believing you.
“Sure,” you shrug, not thinking too much into it, “Let’s go.”
Tumblr media
You could feel the alcohol running through your system as you spoke, laughing along with some stupid story you were telling. Kaveh and you had been at the tavern for nearly two hours and it had long since been dark outside. You didn’t even get the chance to change out of your work clothes before getting there.
It didn’t take long for either of you to find a glass of alcohol sitting in front of you alongside a bunch of different dishes. Although neither of you really had the money to spending like this, it was a congratulatory meal and you couldn’t help but splurge a little.
“I know! Oh my god,” you slur a bit, “Do you…do you remember that time that one guy in our class plagiarized his entire project all the way down to the 3-D model? What was his name again? Bahar? No, that wasn’t it…”
“Oh, Baharak!” Kaveh exclaims, jumping from his seat a little and pointing at you before sitting back down. Leaning against his seat, he lets out a nostalgic sigh, “Archons, how could I forget that guy?”
“Baharak, yeah! Man, I can’t believe he really thought he wouldn’t get expelled for that,” you say and take another sip of your drink.
Kaveh hums in agreement and takes another bite of his food, “Wait, do you remember that professor we had? The one that took my library book away?”
“Really? You’ll have to refresh my memory again,” you say, struggling to connect memories together. Neither of you were drunk, but you were sure as hell getting there. Lambad already had to tell both of you to ease up on the drinks, aware that you both had work the next day. But truly, he just didn’t want you making a ruckus in his tavern again.
It had been years since you both visited together, but he could never forget the messes you made when you were both students at the Akademiya. The days where you would drink until you blacked or vomited, the nights spent drunk crying over bad grades or shitty professors, or the time you accidentally fell asleep on the bathroom floor and he didn’t realize until after closing because Kaveh was too drunk to realize you even left. It was safe to say that you weren’t his favorite customers, despite being fully grown adults now. Lambad was not willing to have repeats of any of those incidents.
It continues on for another hour or so, just sharing stupid stories from the past and what your friendship used to be like. It almost feels as though you are friends again, even if it’s just for a brief moment.
Your smile is wide when you’re talking to him and your laugh isn’t some fake laugh that you always use when someone comes into your store or when you’re talking to literally anyone else. Your legs are bumping into his under the table too, contrary to a few years ago when he was much shorter. It’s weird, you think, how much everything has changed.
It’s not until someone at a table nearby makes a comment about you two that you really digest just how weird it all is.
“Look at that cute couple over there,” they say in awe from somewhere behind you, “Don’t you miss when we used to be like that?”
Within seconds you feel sobered up. It almost embarrasses you how one much one small comment could have an effect on you. Your heart drops into your stomach and your laughter fades out. This isn’t right, you think. You can laugh and drink all you want, but it doesn’t change what happened all those years ago. It doesn’t change the incident or the things Kaveh said to you that night or the things you said to him. It doesn’t change how hard you cried and how your life suddenly went from being on a high to dropping to the lowest you’ve ever been. You can barely survive day to day because of that day…because of him.
No. It doesn’t change anything at all.
You stand up abruptly and grab your bag, slamming some mora onto the table and glancing around hurriedly before beginning to walk out on him. Kaveh stands up too and goes to reach for your arm, but you pull away before he can make contact with it, “Hey, what’s wrong? Where are you going?”
“I can’t do this,” you mumble to yourself, rushing away out of fear.
“Can’t do what?” Kaveh’s eyes are bursting with confusion and terrified that he may have done something wrong. Something to upset you. But you’re already out of the building before he can get an answer.
Tumblr media
It had been about a week before you saw each other again. Luckily for you, it wasn’t required that you were at the build site as long as one of you was there. And with Kaveh’s naturally perfectionistic personality, you knew you weren’t needed there. He was also smart enough to not coming looking for you either after everything that had occurred not only earlier that week, but in the years prior. There was a reason you got along so well before everything came crashing down.
No one knew you guys like you knew each other. There was no doubt about that.
The time you had been gone in the past week was spent running your store, something you had been neglecting anyway. Despite it not being the most successful business ever, it was something and you still had customers to take care of.
Today had been rather slow, being a Thursday and all. Most people were out working their other jobs and kids were in school, so there weren’t really many people to be out shopping anyway.
Aggressive footsteps catch your attention, but you don’t bother to look up at whoever had just entered, figuring it was probably some elderly guy again there to scold you like the one last week.
“Welcome in, I’ll be with you in a moment,” you call out from your spot at the counter, signing away at some documents for the store. The footsteps don’t stop and look around, however. Instead, they march right up the counter and slam your binder shut.
“Is this seriously what you’ve been doing? I get it I may have pissed you off or whatever at Lambad’s earlier this week, but leaving me at the site like that is just shallow,” a familiar voice scolds you. You look up to see Kaveh seething. Although, the longer you look in his eyes, the more you see he’s less angry and more terrified. Of what? You’re unsure.
For a moment, you have the urge to extend a hand out to him and ask him what’s wrong, but you catch yourself before you can. Besides, it would defeat the entire purpose of you being at your store instead of the mansion. Instead you scoff, regaining your anger for him, “Okay? It’s not like you really needed me there this week. All the crew is doing is just finishing the skeleton. Stop acting like something bad happened or whatever.”
Kaveh purses his lips and leans closer to you, leveling his eyes with yours. The seriousness in them is unmistakable and it shakes you a bit. You haven’t seen him like that since…well, since that day. “That’s the thing…something did happen. I came here to tell you abo—”
“What?” You cut him off, eyes widening.
“Stop,” he hushes you angrily, “Please for the love of God just listen for once. Something happened to Zakai’s wife. I came here to tell you that we need to meet with him today because it’s urgent and I barely know what’s going on myself. So please, just put our differences aside and come with me.”
Your lips shut themselves before they can speak again. There’s shock in your eyes at his slight outburst, but you gulp and nod at him. Picking up the binder from earlier, you slide it under the counter in one of the locked drawers before walking around to the other side where Kaveh stands. A quick glance around and you’re walking out of the store. Without hesitation, you flip the sign that reads open to the side that reads closed.
And although you weren’t the firmest believer in the Gods or any part of Celestia, you bowed your head and prayed to the Dendro Archon that this wasn’t what you thought it was.
Tumblr media
Your leg bounces in anticipation as you sit next to Kaveh at the Cafe. It’s dark out, and there aren’t a lot of people around which you’re grateful for. There was a certain nervousness in the air and you weren’t ready to find out where it was going to take you.
“Thank you for meeting with me,” Mr. Zakai says sadly and sits down, sliding you both a mug with what you presume is tea. Kaveh thanks him and bumps his knee with yours from next to you.
You fall out of your thoughts and clear your throat, “Oh, uh, yeah. Of course.”
He looks down at his lap solemnly, seemingly speechless. You turn to Kaveh who’s sitting on your right and frown at him. Kaveh returns the expression but nods his head, wordlessly telling you to just wait and see. You nod back and turn to sip at your tea.
Mr. Zakai’s voice is shaky when he speaks again moments later, “I…I don’t know where to begin. I suppose I should just get to the point so I don’t waste your time.”
You both wait in silence, urging him to continue. Practically waiting on the edge of your seats at this point.
“I have to suspend the project.”
You swear you can feel your heart drop into your stomach as you breathlessly whisper a tiny, “What?”
Kaveh turns to you quickly to gauge your reaction before turning back and swallowing deeply, “I’m sorry, could you please explain what’s going on here? I mean, c’mon, we barely started this thing and now you’re backing out?”
He waves his hands in the air and coughs, “No, no! I…I’m not backing out, dear God, no. I just, I need to wait a bit. It’s my wife, she’s with a family doctor. You see, she’s pregnant and there’s been some terrible complications. I’m afraid she’s fallen ill and I can’t afford to be spending my time building some mansion when she needs me.”
“How long?” you ask firmly, “How long are you suspending this?”
“I don’t know, I’m sorry,” he regretfully apologizes.
Kaveh tries to stay calm but you can feel him shaking next to you. His hands shakily put down the tea cup and he shuts his eyes while he speaks, almost like this is just one big nightmare that he can’t wake up from, “What does this mean for us? The crew? The materials we bought?”
Zakai stutters and sighs over and over again before he can get anything out, “I promise I will pay you…eventually. I have medical bills to pay and for now, I can’t pay either of you.”
“So what? You’re just leaving us then?!” You push him further.
“I’m sorry, really, I am,” he stands up and backs away slowly, “I need to go visit my wife. We’ll chat again soon.”
Hurriedly, he rushes off before either of you get the chance to go after him. Your breathing is heavy and labored, but neither of you move from your seats. There’s a lump in your throat, one you’re desperately trying to push down as you whisper, “I should have never agreed to this.”
“Hey, it’s not over yet,” Kaveh tries to reason as he places a hand on your shoulder. You shrug him off and stand up, shaking your head as you turn around to walk away.
Kaveh quickly springs from his seat and rushes to catch up with you. He pleads with you desperately, “I didn’t know this was going to happen, I swear. This is all my fault.”
“Yeah, it is,” you spat at him, stopping in your tracks and turning to him, “That’s the problem with you, Kaveh. Wherever you go, bad luck just seems to follow. I should’ve known better, honestly. You’d think after all these years I would’ve been smarter. And now…now my life is even more ruined than it was before. Thanks a lot.”
“You know what? No. You agreed to this, so you don’t get to treat me like dirt on your shoe just because something went wrong. Don’t you realize my life is just as ruined as yours is? You’re not the only one with problems!” He yells suddenly, taking a step forward toward you. A few people stop and stare but quickly keep moving when you turn and glare at them.
“My life was ruined in seconds!” You dig your pointer finger into his chest as you match his volume.
“Yeah? Well so was mine! You’re not the only one who’s been suffering all this time.”
Silence washes over both of you. You take a step back from him and remove your hand from his chest hesitantly, angry tears beginning to sting your eyes. Kaveh feels the same prickliness too, a dull ache in his chest as he stands before you. This wasn’t what either of you wanted deep down, and you realize that as you turn and walk away from him again.
There were so many moments of failure in Kaveh’s life, but you had an equal share as well. Yet, for some reason, neither of you realized the other was hurting just as much. Perhaps, like Kaveh, the real reason you accepted the project was so you could rekindle your friendship, bring back a relationship you missed dearly.
You look up at the moon as you walk away, leaving him somewhere behind you where you don’t care to look back to. And as you stare at its presence in the sky, you can’t help but feel like it was just like you and him. He was the sun, and you were the moon. Beautiful in their own ways, but bound by fate to never exist at the same time. Never to coexist.
Maybe this time, the tiny thread that still connected you had finally tethered for good.

The day it all happened was both blurry and clear in your memories.
That day.
Everything seemed to irk you from the moment you awoke that morning. The sheets on your bed weren’t quite placed right. The temperature in your house was miserably warm, even worse, humid after you accidentally left your window open the night before. The ingredients you had planned on using for your favorite breakfast had miraculously grown mold overnight. Not to mention, you were already late five minutes to the build site and everyone knew how particular Dori was about being punctual.
The clouds were a depressing gray from what you could remember. The rain was normally one of your favorite things. After all, you chose to live in the rainforest for a reason. But that day, the gloomy sight stirred a sense of anger in you that was impossible to shake.
You could remember the way Kaveh was avoiding you in the weeks leading up to it all. It was justified in your eyes because well, you were avoiding him too. Neither of you seemed to be able to stand the constant arguments that would break out between you. Most of them were pointless too — small things that could be resolved without a bunch of yelling and insults. Yet, every time you looked at him, every time he spoke, every time he even breathed, you felt anger seep into your blood.
At that point, the both of you had worked on several projects together. Houses, libraries, stores, gardens, you name it. The Palace of Alcazarzaray was the first real project you had both worked on. It was big, flashy, and was going to make a statement about your capabilities to all of Sumeru. Fame and riches were plastered all over the opportunity. The magnum opus of both of your careers.
It was this very reason that you both fought so often. There was so much to plan. So much to work on. At first, things had gone well considering you were both great friends — the best of friends, even. Any outsider or non-architect would probably make the naive assumption that, if anything, it would bring you even closer together. But with so much pressure, the opposite happened and you grew apart. The conflict was too much to handle on either side and you couldn’t keep up with it. Neither of you could.
The rain was bothersome when it started.
It started with a few drops here and there. You could remember hastily wiping them from your hands and face before peering up at the sky with a frown. Within a mere few seconds, the sprinkling rain became aggressive and thunderous. Lightning flashed in your eyes as the afternoon sky faded from a light gray to a deep blue and black.
It was hard to hear the yelling of all the crew members over the rumbling of the thunder overhead. The water below the structure began to thrash rapidly and the cliffs had a slight shake to them. Up until that part, everything was clear to you.
Then the rain was in your eyes and your breathing was heavy as you aimlessly ran around. Eventually, everyone had evacuated the site to a nearby area. Everything had happened so fast you couldn’t even remember how you ended up there, wrapped in a blanket and shivering in the corner of a small tent with a few other people. Soon after, everyone got sent home for the afternoon in a bad mood.
It wasn’t until hours later that a majority of the crew had returned. Your heart dropped within the first few steps you took as the palace came into sight. What had once been turning out to be a luxurious palace was crumbled down into nothing but ruins. Forest Rangers surrounded the place, evaluating it and dragging some equipment away. As soon as Tighnari spotted you, he jogged over to you, carefully explaining what happened.
After the rain, the withering made its way to the house and destroyed just about everything. Within hours, everything you had been working toward for months vanished out of thin air. Kaveh had been walking up to the both of you when the news was relayed to you. What he overheard stopped him in his tracks, allowing him to fall to his knees in anger, frustration, but most importantly, denial. Part of him could process it, while the other part wished he could wake up from whatever nightmare he seemed to be having.
If there was one thing you could remember better than anything else, it was the silence that followed. Everyone dispersed from the area with crest fallen expressions making their way home to their families for the second time that night. You and Kaveh stayed behind, sitting quietly within the ruins on your knees, surrounded by rubble, praying for a miracle from the Dendro Archon.
Tears fell silently down both of your faces as he leaned against your shoulder, arms wrapped carelessly around your abdomen. You had no energy to return the action, and so you sat there in the still silence without so much as a sniffle. Your head was bowed to your chest, unable to look at the place anymore in fear of breaking down in a way that seemed worse than the way the palace had broken.
Both of your tears’ had dried with the morning sun. There was a pounding in your head as Kaveh dragged you back to his house to collect his savings and prepare to sell his house. You had done the same after making a hesitant agreement with him. A tingling sensation covered your body as your chest and stomach ached. Anxiety was written all over your face and you couldn’t help but feel regret over your actions. There was no other way out, you thought.
The arguments hadn’t stopped even after everything had been settled with the money and the plans to rebuild the palace came into fruition. You still had a hard time being around him and he felt the same way. Despite that small moment of desperation where he clung to you in the ruins, there wasn’t much left of your friendship by the end.
Ultimately, one thing led to another and a snap happened. Kaveh was the one to snap first, turning around on you one day and just hurling insult after insult. You followed suite, not backing down for the sake of your dignity. And at that moment, you just wanted to make each other hurt. There was nothing more to it. No real reason to be arguing anymore — not even over small trivial things like misplaced blueprints or an empty paint can being knocked over. It was pure hatred at its finest.
Coincidentally, that was the last day you ever saw each other. You both unknowingly felt bad about hurting each other like that. You were supposed to be best friends afterall. Some part of you even wanted to be more. Not that he ever knew that, though. There was a time in which you tried to apologize, but the residual anger that burned in your heart prevented you from ever seeking him out.
And so, everything you had come to know of him ceased at once. Kaveh was no longer part of your life and you were no longer part of his. The Palace of Alcazarzaray was finished by the crew and anytime either of you ever had to meet with Dori it was always separate. For years, you hadn’t even caught so much as a glance of him.
There was nothing left. Absolutely nothing.
Tumblr media
Three weeks had passed since Zakai had reached out to either of you. History seemed to be repeating itself with you and Kaveh as well, seeing as neither of you had crossed paths at all within that time.
You were back to quietly running your tiny little store. There was only a week left until your eviction went into effect. The few things you had in your house had been moved into a small section in the back of your store where you had settled to live temporarily. There wasn’t much room and it wasn’t the safest, but you would find a way to make it work for the time being.
“Um, hi,” a timid voice squeaks out, catching you off guard, “I have an urgent delivery. Could you please confirm your name on the envelope?”
Your eyes lift from the paper they’re staring at blankly. Your brows furrow and you nod at the young boy who didn’t look to be older than fifteen. “Do you know what this is about?” You ask him as you turn to find a letter opener from behind you.
“Not exactly. It’s from my uncle Zakai, you know him right?”
“Yeah, something like that. Thanks,” you mumble. He hums before awkwardly walking out of your shop. When he’s gone, you eagerly cut open the pristine envelope to find a paper inside. It’s a letter, you realize as you begin to read it. It’s addressed to both you and Kaveh, so you assume he must’ve received one as well.
Inside the letter details a meeting at a specific time and place. It’s the build site, later this afternoon at three o’clock. Most of it is just jumbled up, redundant apologies that you can’t resist your eyes from rolling at, but the end of the letter catches your eye. Moving back up a few sentences you had scanned over, you reread it carefully.
“He wants to start the project back up?” You ask to no one but yourself. The letter falls from your hand onto the counter and you stare out at your shop in contemplation. On one hand, you could return to the project and see it through. Maybe hope nothing bad happens again. On the other, you could ditch the whole thing out of fear that history could repeat itself for a third time. It would mean you could avoid seeing Kaveh again. Because, as you angrily spat at him before, bad luck seemed to follow him wherever he went. You were far too scared of what the outcome of seeing him again would be.
Minutes later you had your answer as you found yourself flipping the sign outside the shop to closed and locking the doors.
It wasn’t worth it, you realized, being scared of someone who was only scared and sensitive himself. Joining the project again couldn’t hurt you any further than it already had. There was no contractual agreement that would force you to be friendly with Kaveh again either. Perhaps you could work merely as coworkers and nothing more. Speak to him only when you have to and get this job done once and for all.
Tumblr media
“I’m glad to have you back,” Zakai shakes your hand firmly as you fall into step with him.
“Happy to be back,” you lie. Hesitantly, you turn to him and clear your throat, “If you don’t mind me asking, is your wife alright? What made you come back to the project?”
Mr. Zakai sends you a fond smile as he thinks of her, “She’s perfectly fine. Thank you for asking. There were a few complications with the baby, but she made it through and everything is going smoothly now. The baby is actually due in a few weeks. Can you believe it?”
“Not at all,” you smile halfheartedly.
“Anyway,” he says as you reach the site with him, “I came back to the project because I am a man of my word. I said I wasn’t going to drop it, so here I am. Besides, I’m impressed with yours and Kaveh’s work. I truly hope we can finish what we started.”
You nod silently to yourself. Before you or Zakai can say anything else, Kaveh jogs up to you both out of breath, “I’m so sorry I’m late. My annoying roommate took my key again and I couldn’t get back into the house to grab my things, so I had to go track him down and get it back.”
“That’s okay,” Zakai laughs and holds out his hand for Kaveh to shake, “It’s good to see you, Kaveh.”
“You too,” he says before turning to you. Kaveh nods at you silently. Hesitantly, you nod back, averting your eyes quickly.
It doesn’t take long for everything to return to the natural swing of things. The crew was happy to be back and building and Zakai was more than pleased with how close the house was to being completed. Over the next few weeks, everyone works diligently to get it completed.
Day in and day out, neither of you spoke to one another just as you had hoped for. No arguments, no silly jokes, no talking about ideas…nothing. Sometimes it felt a little lonely, even when you were standing right next to each other. There were times where you had seen something on the way to site that you wanted to talk to someone about, rant about your day, whatever. Even when you were still in the period of “hating” each other before Zakai temporarily left the project, both of you still felt more comfortable speaking to each other.
You want to hate him. You really do. But after everything that has happened, after all the emotions you can’t seem to restrain anymore, you’re beginning to wonder if you ever really hated him the way you said you did.
On the final day of the project, it rains again. You aren’t worried this time, however. Not like how you were with the palace. The house was built, inside and out. The only thing left to add was the remainders of Zakai and his wife’s furniture and any other little embellishments he had requested. A pay check was already in the mail for you both, your ticket out of the miserable life you’ve both led for two years.
You’re walking away for the night when footsteps pick up from somewhere behind you. Most of the crew was in front of you chatting away under a ledge shielded from the rain. There’s a hollow feeling in your chest that leaves you feeling dissatisfied with it all as you walk away, no umbrella and shivering furiously under the pouring rain. Eventually, the mysterious person catches up to you and falls into step with you. There was only one person it could have been.
A few weeks ago, you would have swatted him away or sped up so you could get as far away from him as possible. But now, just like that night in the ruins two years ago, you had no energy to push him away anymore. So, silently, you both walk side by side until you reach Sumeru City.
A bolt of lightning landing on the ground a few feet away causes you both to jump back. Thunder follows suite and suddenly the rain turns more into a storm that threatens to flood the city. Icy hail begins to fall not even seconds later, harshly landing against both of your backs as you rush into the city.
Kaveh’s hand gently grabs yours and eagerly drags you away with him. He’s yelling something, but you can’t make out what he’s saying. And before you know it, you’re both sitting in a booth at Lambad’s Tavern soaked and shivering.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers into the air, “We should stay here until the storm dies down. It’s too dangerous outside.”
“Yeah,” you quietly agree and nod quickly, eyes stuck on the table like it was the most interesting thing ever. Kaveh’s looking at you, but you ignore his gaze.
Minutes later, Lambad walks over with a sympathetic expression on his face as he sets down two hot chocolates. He makes some small talk about the storm which both of you indulge him in as you sip on the hot drinks, acting as if nothing was wrong between you. Eventually, he goes to leave but stops to turn back, “I’ll bring out two more on me. Please, stay as long as you need.”
“Thank you,” you both say simultaneously. It goes quiet when he leaves.
For the first time in two years, it feels like the silence is warm and home like. It’s no longer awkward and cold. It reminds you of the time when you were still scholars at the Akademiya, studying late at night at your house in your room. He would sit in your bed while you studied at your desk. There was always something so comforting about it despite the fact that you had to study. Being with him was your favorite thing in the world. And even though it felt like you both had been thrown into the pits of hell with each other, forced against each other over and over again, sitting across from him now felt like none of that had ever happened. For a tiny moment, it felt like you were friends again.
“I never wanted you out of my life,” Kaveh breaks the silence suddenly. Your eyes meet his for the first time that night and they’re brewing with a certain determination, sadness, and anger all at once. You can feel it in yourself too.
“What?” you breathe out. Your brows furrow as you take in what he’s saying, “You never wanted me to leave? But I thought…after everything, I mean. After what we said to each other back then, you didn’t hate me?”
Kaveh frowns and his mouth falls agape as his hands slam against the table dramatically. The words fall out of his mouth before he can stop them, “Hate you? Archons no! How could I hate you when I was in love with you?”
“Wait—you…? You were in love with me?”
His face falls instantly, hands waving in the air, “Shit, I didn’t mean—”
Your eyes glance back and forth between his, desperately searching for any sign of a prank or some sort of sick joke. Fear pangs your heart when you can’t find any, “Kaveh…why didn’t you say anything?”
“You were you and I was me. It never would’ve worked no matter how much I wanted it to,” Kaveh slumps into his seat, scoffing as he forces himself to look away from you, “You know what? Can we please just forget I ever said anything?”
The realization of what all the years you spent together meant hits you hard as you sit across from him. The rain pounding against the windows makes your head pound even harder as you try to make sense of it all. Because, no, this was not some sick joke or some prank. Kaveh was wholeheartedly in love with you at some point and you had no idea.
There were times where you felt the same. Staring at him from across the room, his beautiful blonde hair messily sprawled across your bed as he complained about the project you were working on. The times when he would be going on and on about his passions and you couldn’t help but zone out and just admire him in all his glory. Or when he would bring you food just because he knew you had forgotten to eat again. All the trinkets he would buy you because they reminded him of you. The way he made you feel so loved and cared for. Over the years, you had unknowingly fallen for him too. Kaveh may have only ever been your best friend, but in moments like those, moments where the light hit him just right, you wished he could have been more.
“No.”
“No?”
You lean across the table slightly, forcing him to look at you, “I can’t just ignore that. I can’t pretend you didn’t say it or that you never had feelings for me. I hate to admit it, but Kaveh, I had feelings for you too back then.”
It’s silent for a few moments. You give him the chance to speak, but he doesn’t take it. You take in a deep inhale and hesitantly speak, “I know it’s been a long time — years to be precise. And it pains me to say this, but I’m really happy the project worked out how it did. That opportunity from Zakai gave me more than I could ask for and…I’m glad it brought me back to you.”
“Yeah,” Kaveh scoffs playfully, a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth, “Only after a painstaking amount of convincing.”
“Oh please, I had every reason to say no to you,” you refute, crossing your arms in defense, “And I wasn’t finished. What I was trying to say, was that, even though it’s been so many years, I don’t know where to go from here. But I…I don’t want us to go back to the way things were.”
Kaveh sighs, “I know. I don’t either. Obviously we both have things we need to work through. But, if you’re willing, I’d like to start over again. Not completely, of course. But I want us to be friends again, maybe one day even more…If you’ll have me, that is.”
“Okay,” you breathe out with a small smile. Although it took years and a painful amount of fighting, tears, and money, you had found each other again. Perhaps you couldn’t love each other now, but the feeling was without a doubt there. The pounding in your hearts and ache for one another was concrete proof of it.
And as Kaveh reaches out and takes your hand again for the first time in two years, he knows he’ll never let you go again.

Tumblr media
It had been probably, the WORST week of your life. You got evicted because your landlord ended your lease - can landlords even do that? what a dick, you thought to yourself. That, plus the massive training block you've been experiencing AND the fact you had just ended the worst date have really made you crave a night of forgetting everything. You're so grateful for alcohol and Bulma. Both were incredible distractions and can help you forget everything.
"Thanks again for letting my stay here until I could get back up on my feet." You tell her after taking a sip of your rum and coke. She waves you off, lifting her feet up onto the couch, tucking them under herself and getting comfortable.
"(Y/N), I'm serious when I say you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like. You don't understand how much I need a friend in this house." You giggle.
"What do you mean?" Bulma groans, and takes a massive gulp of her vodka sprite.
"My parents... are my parents-" That, you could understand. They are a handful. "And Vegeta's always been a pain in my ass. Especially since I got back with Yamcha-" You almost spit out your drink.
"WHAT?!?!" You gasp out loud, before whispering, as if you were conspiring. "Since when? What happened to 'working things out' with Vegeta?" You were curious, as she went on and on... and on and on about fixing things with Vegeta for the sake of Trunks.
"I mean, there's definitely love for him as the father of my son. But that love can only get me so far. We understand that we aren't meant to last. Plus Yamcha has gotten better at communicating his feelings and his wants. He's definitely not the same person who cheated on me years ago." Bulma stated matter-of-factly. You furrow your brows.
"So why's Vegeta still live here?" Bulma takes a sip of her drink and ponders her response.
"Well... At the beginning it was because I would miss him too hard, and I couldn't imagine a world without him in it. Now, its partially because of Trunks, and partially because-" She leans in close, and whispers in your ear. "I feel bad for him. He really only has Trunks now..." She bites her lip as she moves back to her spot.
"He'll find someone. He's... very attractive and sets his mind to things and sticks to it. I mean, sure, his pride is his greatest weakness, but he definitely has more pros than cons, especially now." You always found Vegeta attractive, but that was a given. Both Saiyans (and Broly, when you think about it) are very attractive beings. You wonder if its Saiyan genetics that make such handsome men, or if it really is just pure luck.
"Ou~" Bulma purrs. "Want me to set you two up? I'm sure he wouldn't mind. He can already tolerate you and has complimented your strength-" Your eyes widen.
"What has he said?" You lean in, excited. Bulma smirks knowingly.
"Maybe this planet isn't doomed after all." She puts on her best Vegeta impression, which makes you giggle.
Tumblr media
You spend the rest of the night chatting and getting drunk with Bulma, by the time you both head to bed, its almost 3 am. You stumble through the halls, bumping into different doors. You open your bedroom door, and walk to your bed. When you collapse, your eyes are closed and notice that your bed is warm... and hard?
"Woman! Is there a reason you're in my bedroom? It's 3 AM, some of us train around here." You snuggle deeper into the mass.
"S-ry 'Geta. M'drunk." You slur out, with zero environmental awareness.
"GO IN YOUR OWN ROOM!" He whisper yells, trying to push you off. You whine, cuddling your face into his neck and inhaling. He instantly freezes up, and you feel heat pool up his neck towards his face. Eyes still closed, you smile softly.
"Mmm... smell good." You lay your face directly on his pulse point, blissfully unaware of the speedy pitter-patter of the Saiyan's heart.
"Woman-" He whisper-yells. "Please get out of my room." His voice is pleading, and your mind seems to begin feeling guilt.
"Can't. Can't walk. 'M too drnk." You whisper into his neck sadly, sniffling as tears spring to your eyes. Your body was vulnerable, especially so under the effects of alcohol, and Vegeta feels concerned. On the one hand, he is uncomfortable with physical touch, but on the other, the way your breath hits his pulse point has brought his Saiyan instincts out, and he does not want to take advantage of one of the only women in his life who finds him tolerable- semi tolerable? he thinks to himself. He sighs.
"Lemme carry you then." You hum.
"Thank you, Princey." You leave a small peck on his neck. Insignificant to you, probably, but meant too much to Vegeta. From his limited understanding of Earthlings and their tolerance to alcohol, it lowered inhibitions, but also could bring out instincts. Do you trust him? That question unloads a can of worms in Vegeta's head, as he lifts you in a bridal carry and walks towards your room, which is a short walk from his door. Despite this, it feels like centuries. He watches your face as you slowly fall asleep to the rocking of his movement as he carries you. What if you DID trust him? Vegeta knows he is not a good man, perfectly shown through his relationship with Bulma, or lack of. He couldn't keep a woman, who, he would never admit, helped him through a lot and even gave him a son. A son he hasn't even taken care of much! Vegeta's brow furrows and he stops walking in the middle of the hallway, which stirs you from your light slumber.
"'Geta?" You ask him confused, still drunk. He looks into your eyes, and can't help but admire their colour.
"Almost there-" He whispers softly. You gaze at his face, before reaching a hand to his forehead. The soft touch to his face makes his eyes widen.
"You should smile more. You're handsome when you do." You whisper, before your hand falls from his forehead, and lingers on his cheek, holding him softly. Vegeta's brow unfurrows, as he watches you. He then walks you to your room, and prepares to leave you at the door.
"Tha-nk y-ouuu 'Geta." He helps you out of his arms so you could land on your legs, though you did so a little unstable. You kiss his cheek quickly, and giggle before opening and closing the door behind you. Vegeta is stunned in place, holding the cheek you kissed as a raging blush flushes his entire body.
Tumblr media
"Ugh, my head." You groan as you walk into the kitchen, where Vegeta and Bulma are bickering.
"Yeah I'm in pain too. Wish I could use a Senzu bean-" Bulma jokes, but Vegeta cuts her off.
"What a stupid use of a Senzu bean. You'd be wasting it to get through something ridiculous." He bites at her, and she rolls her eyes.
"Normally, I'd fight you, but I'm in too much pain and care too little about your opinion." You wince, and can tell those words hurt Vegeta a little, no matter how much he hides it.
"Woah Bulma, 'ts a little much. Let's all just have coffee, breakfast, and then we'll all feel better." You speak up as you walk past Vegeta, brushing his shoulder with your hand as a sign of respect, and defense. Vegeta looks at you with an eyebrow raised, and you raise one side of your lip slightly, smirking at him. You loved Bulma, but sometimes she says things she regrets, especially when hungover. She groans.
"Coffee sounds great." You giggle, as you make coffee for you three. You pass everyone a mug, and take a sip and sigh into the warm mug.
"I'll make us breakfast. What do you want, Vegeta?" You ask, looking at him over the rim of the mug. Bulma raises a brow.
"Why are you asking him?" You hum looking at her.
"Cause he's gonna be eating the most portions. I'm already making eggs and bacon, but he'll probably want something else, right 'Geta?" Your eyes switch from Bulma to Vegeta, and you can see the tips of his ears blushing, before he crosses his arms and turns to look away from you.
"Tch. Make me three steaks on the side, woman!" You roll your eyes at Bulma, who chuckles.
"All right, your highness. I'll make them rare and also feed them to you?" He smirks at that.
"Finally, someone who can understand the worth of a Prince-" Bulma rolls her eyes.
"Being the prince of 3 people is like calling me the queen of nothing." Vegeta's head snaps to her, and he growls.
"What a fitting title for someone who brings nothing to my life-" Bulma's eyebrows raise, and so do yours.
"Okay Vegeta, let's calm down~" You hold his shoulder, and rub it, eyes widening as you can see his hair flicker between blonde and brunette quickly.
"Tch. She's insufferable!" He cries out, effectively calming himself down.
"You're BOTH insufferable, actually. Both of you need to fucking relax." You tried not to swear often, but they were annoying you. Both of them shut up, eyes wide.
"I'm gonna finish cooking, we are going to eat calmly and quietly, and then I can go train for a bit before I-" You're taking the bacon out of the oven when your phone rings, and Vegeta grabs it for you.
"Who's calling?" You ask him as you grab the device from his thick hand.
"Tinder James? What kind of a first name is Tinder?" Vegeta raises a brow and you cough, eyes wide.
"He's calling you back?! PUT HIM ON SPEAKER." Bulma shouts, excited. You roll your eyes, but answer and put him on speaker while you cook.
"(Y/N) here." You respond.
"Hey sweetheart. Sorry I had to cut our date short yesterday, you know how it is haha-" You roll your eyes as Bulma mimics the movement of vomiting. Vegeta stays silent, watching your face. You had a date yesterday? He's upset at this information, but would never tell you that.
"Its fine-" You start to respond. "I mean, if you wanna continue the date tonight I'm game." He cuts you off.
"Continue... our date?" You ask confused.
"Yeah? I didn't hit so I thought you'd want me to hit it-" Both you and Bulma actually guffaw at that.
"Something funny?" He asks confused.
"Listen here, sweetheart-" You start sarcastically "You weren't gonna hit. You spent the whole date checking your phone and texting. I'm not stupid and I'm not someone who you can push around. We aren't gonna fuck, so stick your dick elsewhere. Oh! And delete my number." You hang up before blocking the number, turning to grin at Bulma. She laughs and high-fives you after you turn off the stove-top, eggs ready. You pile the eggs and bacon onto plates and get going on the steaks while handing the plates of food to Bulma and Vegeta. They start eating, and by the time you finish the steaks, Vegeta has finished his portions.
"Here you go." You hand the pile of steaks to him, and eat your meal. He doesn't touch his food, and looks at you expectantly. He harrumphs to get your attention.
"Yes?" He raises a brow.
"Why aren't you feeding me?" You laugh in his face. You pick up a piece of bacon from your plate before shoving it in his mouth. He choke on it, eyes wide looking at you.
"Eat your damn steaks." You tell him as you shovel eggs into your mouth and wink at him. Bulma laughs at him, as she picks up the empty plates and puts them in the dishwasher. Vegeta stays quiet and starts to eat his steaks, but you can see that his hairline is flickering blonde, but he wears a small smirk on his face.
Tumblr media
The next couple days you don't see Vegeta at all. Normally, it wouldn't affect you, but you felt... saddened by the lack of his presence.
You are walking past the Gravity Chamber when you hear a massive explosion, and shouting. You sprint towards the Chamber, worried.
"Stupid Earthlings and their stupid creations!" You smirk at the angry Saiyan, who is hugging a robot, his hair a dark blue.
"Cute look, Vegeta. Is she your new girlfriend?" You tease, smirking at him. He turns to looks at you, and the tips of his ears turn pink.
"Woman! How dare you joke about the Saiyan Prince and his taste in women?" He grumbles loudly, walking closer to you. His hair goes back to brunette, and you can't help but admire his handsome looks.
"It's okay Vegeta. I won't tell Bulma~" You say in a sing-song voice, winking at him. He drops the robot before crushing it with his feet. You raise an eyebrow and smirk at him.
"These ridiculous jokes must end! Where is the respect for royalty? An understanding of- of greatness?" He asks you, getting closer. You look up at him, and bite your lip.
"I apologize for my humour, my prince-" You tell him, as you curtesy. "I'll make sure to only sing my praises of your existence, your majesty." The tips of his ears are deepening into a dark blush, and his cheeks are also discolouring.
"That's more like it, woman! Though, Saiyans always greeted me on one knee-" you cut him off, grinning.
"You want to see me on my knees? Dirty prince." His whole face turns red, and you can feel his Ki rise significantly.
"Y-you vile woman! Such tactless behaviour- such a dishonourable sneak attack!" He stutters angrily, his eyes becoming a beautiful teal and his hair a vibrant blonde, once again. You giggle before rubbing his chest to calm him down.
"I'm only kidding 'Geets-" he grumbles looking away from you, face still flushed. He snaps out of Super Saiyan, and his blush lowers significantly. "Hey, wait a minute! Why don't we train together?" His head snaps back at you, intrigued.
"Why should I train with you?" He asks unkindly. You roll your eyes at his attitude.
"Well, for starters, your little playroom is broken-" his eyebrows furrow and he is reminded of his loss. "Secondly, I've had the worst training block in my life. I can't do anything right and having someone like you train with me will surely help!" He ponders this for a moment.
"Fine. But only because, as you put it, "my playroom is broken"." You smile at him, and grab his wrist to drag him to an open field far away from Bulma's ire.
"Tch. We could've flown here." He crosses his arms, raising a brow.
"Yeah, but sometimes walking through nature helps clear the mind, and prepares me for a battle." You say, as you roll your shoulder and stretch your body.
"C'mon Vegeta, I know you've said that I am a competent fighter-" Vegeta cuts you off angrily.
"Does that putrid woman share all my secrets?!" He goes back into Super Saiyan, getting into fighting position. You giggle as you also stance up.
"She's being harmless, 'Geta." He comes towards you first, fist almost breaking through your block.
"Jesus Vegeta. You need to slow down so the rest of us can catch up!" You huff out, faces close together. You blush as your eyes wander to his lips.
"I will never "slow down" so that a mere Earthling can catch up to the Prince of all Saiyans-" You punch his gut as he speaks, and he barely reacts to it, eyes widening. You aim a kick to his ribs, but he quickly grabs your calf, and spins you. You use your other foot to kick his sternum, and fly up in the air. You dodge and hit eachother, nothing that would really need a Senzu. Then you decide to up the stakes.
"I've been practicing this technique- CATASTROPHIC CANON-" [note: idk man im trying] A massive ball of red-hued Ki shoots towards Vegeta. In his mind, the move sounded idiotic, so surely he could handle its power. The ball then splits into three and hits him from all angles. He's never seen a move that did that! He was impressed, but it could be stronger.
"That was cute, woman! Let me show you a real show stopper- GALICK GUN!" You tried to dodge, but it was too late. Like a meteor, you crash into the ground under you, creating a crater around your body. Vegeta's eyes widen as he flies towards you, worried.
"Woman!" When you don't answer, he walks closer, concerned.
"Woman?-" Your eyes were closed, but your chest was still moving. "Y/N?" He's right next to you now. You grab his ankle, and flip him so you land on top of him. You sit on his lap, and hold his arms up over his head, panting loudly. Blood is dripping down a gash from your forehead, and he can't help but find you to be the most beautiful being he's ever seen.
"I-" You inhale. "Win-" exhale, looking deep into his eyes. He tries to break out of your hold, but you grip his wrists tightly, and he flinches.
"That was dirty!" Vegeta protests, blushing. You get closer to him, your breathes mingling.
"I'll make sure to play nicely next time, Prince Vegeta-" His lips catch yours in ah instant. Your lips mold to his perfectly, and the small moan you let out is not unnoticed by the Saiyan. Your grip on his wrists loosened, and he takes advantage of your vulnerability to flip you under him. Your thighs wrap around his small waist, and you pull him closer to you, grinding up to him.
Your open your mouth and you begin another battle. His tongue and yours lash against eachother, and you further explore his mouth, tracing your tongue over his teeth. Your tongue caresses over his canines, which were sharper because of his Alien heritage. You puncture yourself on them, and he moans out when a drop of your blood lands on his tongue. You pull away to look him, eyes wide.
"Please-p-please Vegeta." You whimper. He looks at you, panting slowly.
"Call me by my real title, sweetheart." You moan, pushing forward to kiss his neck. You lick up and down his pulse point. He moans into your hair, and you feel a rush of slick leave your body. He sniffs the air around you before groaning.
"I can smell you sweetheart-" You whimper into him, before licking up to the shell of his ear.
"Please Prince Vegeta. Please touch me." He pulls you up off the ground, still grinding into you softly.
"As you wish, princess-" He shoots off the ground, flying quickly back to Capsule Corp to continue what you had both started. As he flies through the skies, you continue to lick and kiss his neck, before biting down on junction between his neck and shoulder. He growls in your ear before pulling away to look into your eyes.
"Do that one more time and I'll make sure you can't ever walk again." His focus goes from one eye to the other, and you can't help the surge of need that flows through you from his attentiveness.
"That better be a promise, my prince-" Before you could end your sentence, he's already landed on his balcony, and has slammed the door open with his foot. He kicks the door shut behind him and lays you on the bed. He watches you for a moment, as you wriggle to lean on your elbows and look up at him.
"Why are you staring at me?" You ask curiously, a blush forming on the apples of your cheeks. He bites the fingertip of one of his gloves, pulling it off, before mirroring the action for his other hand.
"You remind me of the women from my planet-" You roll your eyes at him.
"Usually during sex, you don't tell the person you're about to sleep with they remind you of someone else." He barks a laugh at that, trailing his hands near your ankles, pulling off your shoes and working his way up your legs, caressing the muscles there.
"You're strong- physically and mentally. You're talented in many trades, multi-faceted. Powerful-" he begins to kiss his way up your torso, his warmth bleeding through your clothing. "Intelligent. Beautiful. Alluring. You have an air around you-" He cuts himself off then, having kissed his way up to your face and stopping.
"You possess much more than any of the women of this planet. You call to me in ways the people of my planet never did. You're much more than the sum of all these things together. I've always thought this." He murmurs as he looks into your eyes. He sees your eyes shine before you speak up.
"I've always admired your strength-" You begin to say as you caress his arms, before pulling his calloused hands towards your lips and kissing each fingertip, each scratch and mark that makes him, Vegeta. "You're much more than your physical prowess Vegeta. You're mental fortitude, after everything you've been through- continue to go through-" You exhale loudly. You hold his face in your hands.
"You are the ultimate warrior. You always compare yourself to Goku but in my eyes you will always be more than he is." You thought you saw his eyes water, but he burrows his face into your neck before taking a deep breathe.
"Princess, I need you. I've wanted to conquer this body like the thousands of planets I've conquered in the name of the Saiyan Army. I want to watch you quiver underneath me as I take everything you have to offer- and much more." He growls out, showing his teeth. You whimper, once again getting wet at his words. He plays you like an instrument- and he's the maestro. You quickly pull off your clothing until you are naked under him. He admires your body quietly, before looking into your eyes.
"Fuck me Vegeta. Breed me like I'm yours." He bites his lip looking at you.
"You already are mine. I'll make sure to mold your body to mine, woman-" You bite down on his neck, as a form of chastising him.
"Don't call me woman-" You warn him softly. He groans in your ear and his hands roam your curves. His fingers find the peaks of each breast, twisting and rubbing with the pads of his fingers. Your hands wander across the planes of his body that are still covered by his blue training gear.
"What should I call you, Y/N?" He asks you softly, before taking your right nipple in his mouth.
"F-Fuck Vegeta. Please call me yours, call m-me princess~" He groans at your words, his arousal showing through his clothes. "Show everyone who I belong to-" You never felt so dirty in your life; pleading for a man to call you his, never in your life could you imagine the submissive turn this took. You want to take control back, so you flip yourself back on top. He looks up at you, biting his lip.
"Such a good princess for me. Pleasing your Prince like a good girl~" You growl at that, grinding down hard into the clear outline of his heavy cock. You begin to tug on the collar of his training gear.
"I'm gonna rip this off of you and ride you. I wanna be a good girl for my Prince." He smirks at that, before his eyes widen at the ripping sound his gear makes. You pull the tattered fabric off his body, nails lightly scraping the surface of his skin.
"So handsome, and strong. Perfect for protecting me~" You whisper in a sing sing voice, before kissing down his body. You start from his lips and work your way down. You can tell your bites and hickeys are already mostly healed, so you leave a couple more before kissing his pecs and lavishing his nipples in attention. He covers his mouth to muffle a moan, as he squeezes his eyes shut.
"Don't shy away from me now Vegeta. Let me hear you." You tell him, pulling his arm away. He pants at you, eyes wide.
"T-these damn sneak attacks!" You grin at his words.
"I'll show you a sneak attack-" You begin the sentence, before gripping his cock in your hand. Its girth is unimaginable, your hand barely closing around it. His length is above average, and you could already tell you would spend many days worshiping his cock if you could.
You slowly thrust your fist up and down his length, watching how his cock pulsed under your hand. You could tell there was something peculiar about it, like the small ridges near the head and the particularly thick vein on the underside. Your other hand goes to his balls, which seemed to have already been straining for attention.
He whimpers as you touch him, but swears as soon as your tongue touches his slit.
"Fuck~ just like that princess-" You moan around his cock, taking the head into your mouth and giving it small sucks and kitten licks.
"Such a good little Earth whore for her Saiyan Prince- f-fuck. Can't wait to fill you with my royal seed." You didn't realize Vegeta was so vocal during sex. You pull your mouth off him and sit on your haunches, slowly stroking your up and down his cock.
"W-why'd you stop?" He asks angrily, hair flicking to blonde for a moment. You hover over his body, before grinning.
"Let's put that mouth to good use-" You sit on his face looking down at him. You hear him inhale through his nose deeply, before he looks up at you, lust prominent in his eyes. You bite your lip before tugging on his hair, and in a moment his fingers latch onto your thighs, and his tongue takes a wide lick up your slit. You look into his eyes to see him staring at your face. His tongue continues to take wide licks, before it enters inside your pussy. He licks up the juice that leaks out of you, groaning under you. You moan out his name as he does so, and hear him muttering under you.
"Taste so good for your Prince. Such a good girl-" You moan out loud, before you have to use your left hand to hold yourself up. You stretch your right arm behind you, and grip his cock, before giving him a sloppy handjob. He grunts under you, before unhooking his left hand from your thighs and spreading you open. You caterwaul when his tongue finds your clit, swirling and giving it attention while he lets his thick middle finger stretch you out by entering in and out of you slowly.
"F-Fuck Vegeta." You knew you were being too loud, and were worried about an audience outside the door.
"That's right princess. Tell everyone who this pussy belongs too." The slurping noise he makes is whorish, and your mind instantly clears of all thought.
"Fuck-fuck-FUCK!" You begin to grind on his face, slick leaving you in waves.
"That's right Y/N. Tell me what you want-" He enters a second finger inside of you, the stretch delicious.
"Want to cum- need to cum so badly Vegeta! Please please please-" You beg him, your hand and body moving in tandem with one another.
"Gonna make this pretty pussy cum all over my tongue-" He mutters, grinning. You look down and see the predatory look in his eyes.
"Please Daddy- please let me cum~" You're just blabbing random words, brain short circuiting at the intense pleasure between the apex of your thighs.
"Daddy?" He grunts at that.
"Want me to be your daddy?" You don't answer him right away, but he gets a response out of you when he takes his mouth away from your pussy and bites down on the side of your thigh, canines breaking skin. You groan in pain, the pleasure being elevated by his roughness.
"Answer me princess." He demands, fingers still entering and exiting your body languidly.
"Y-yes Vegeta. Be my Daddy, my Prince. F-fuck. Just let me cum!" You beg him, tears in your eyes at the edging Vegeta put you through.
"What a good girl. Such a good girl for daddy-" His lips latch onto your little pearl, sucking and licking, with his canines bumping into the sensitive bundle of nerves. The attention serves to be too much, and your sight goes white. You cum on his face, but more than that you squirt a little. He continues to suck on your pussy, the twitching and wailing from the body above him not stopping his actions.
He licks up your mess, enjoying that all his senses are surrounded by you. When your body goes lax he releases you, laying you under him to continue his caressing and kissing on your body. He pays particular attention to the junction of your neck, where he leaves a deep bite. The bite snaps you out of your euphoric ride, eyes widened at the sudden pain. You must've made too much noise, because Vegeta covers your mouth with his hand, as he licks up the mark. You can already feel the skin begin to mend itself, as his Saiyan saliva speeds the healing process. His hand releases your mouth when you're no longer whimpering in pain.
"Now everyone will know who you belong to-" He grunts at you, his hands caressing your torso and the undersides of your breasts. You look into his eyes, panting at his attention.
"Fuck me." You tell him, touching him on his forearm. He grins at you, sharp canines stained with your blood.
"Excuse me?" He asks you, acting galled at your words. Without answering him, you push him to sit on his haunches between your thighs. As you do so, his eyes wander your body, his tongue reaching out between the seam of his lips to lick them. Your hand trails down your body, and as you begin to pant with need, you spread your pussy open, and his eyes widen at the sight of your slick leaking out.
"Fuck me, Saiyan." Your voice was authoritative, and without warning, Vegeta growls and pulls your thighs closer to him.
"With pleasure, princess." He pushes your legs all the way down, your knees bumping into your shoulders. You grab your legs by the backs of your knees, and he takes his cock in his hand and strokes your pussy. When his tip would bump into your clit you'd moan loudly and he'd chuckle at you, breathless.
"Look at you; your crumbling resolve left you cock hungry for the Prince of all Saiyans." He begins to push himself into you, the stretch of his cock nothing like the stretch from his fingers. You find yourself flinching at the intrusion, and Vegeta notices. He pushes himself all the way in slowly, before putting you both into a mating press. Your nipples were sensitive dragging against his chest. He looks into your eyes and whispers.
"You're doing great, sweetheart. Such a good princess for daddy-" His hand snakes between your bodies, and begins to rub your clit as he begins to move. The minor pain from the girth of him begins to ebb away, and pleasure begins to take its place.
"F-fuck Vegeta. So b-big." He chuckles, before groaning.
"Princess. You're so fucking tight. Gonna fuck this pussy good. 'N make you squirt again." He mumbles out, words slurred by the feeling of your pussy squeezing him. You whimper at his words, beginning to grind into his cock as he moves.
"H-harder Daddy. Fuck me good. P-Please-" You beg, almost weeping with tears running down your cheeks. . He wipes your tears before using both hands to brace himself onto the bed.
"Anything for you." He says passionately. It struck a cord in you, the sincerity of his words making you gaze at him with love. The intensity of your coupling is one you've never experienced, and your body and soul feel overstimulated by everything Vegeta. His thrusts are strong, and your legs slip out of your hold as you grip the bedsheets under you, needing something to ground yourself.
Your legs wrap around his hips, and the heel of your foot bumps into the patch of fur at the small of his waist where his tail used to be. He moans out, his voice loud. You notice him blushing as he looks into your eyes. His thrusts go harder, and he grabs both your hands to lock his fingers with yours.
"Just like that princess- fuck." He grunts. You reach up to lock your lips together. Your bodies have become one at this point, with a feeling of oneness you had never felt in your life. You begin to purposefully rub the heel of your foot into the patch of fur, as you near your release. After a couple strokes of your foot, he shouts into your mouth, cumming into your pussy.
The twitching of his cock triggers your release, and you cum around his cock. You stay together for a moment, tongues languidly rubbing against eachother. He pulls away softly, panting. He begins to pull himself up, to watch where you are both connected. He groans again.
"Look at you princess. Creamed around my cock. Such a messy girl-" Your pussy twitches and he bites his lip. His eyes flicker teal for a moment.
"Don't tempt me to ravage you again, (Y/N)." You grin at him, acting coy.
"Sorry my Prince." He smiles softly at you, pushing hair away from your face. He then pulls out, and you whimper at the feeling of cum leaking out of you. He pushes his fingers into you, scooping up his seed and filling you back up.
"None of my seed should go to waste. You're the perfect mate." He growls possessively.
"Is that so?" You ask him. He nods. After a couple minutes of silence, he pulls his fingers out slowly, and you moan softly. He chuckles at the sound, before going into his bathroom. He closes the door for two minutes. You sigh, turning yourself so your laying on your side, leaning your head on your hand. You watch the door, eyebrows jumping when you hear a bang and a muffled "shit" through the door. Not a moment later, Vegeta leaves the bathroom with boxers on and a damp hand towel in his grip. He comes towards you, and slowly pulls you into his lap.
"What's all this?" You ask him softly, voice hardly louder than a whisper.
"After a Saiyan mating bite, the male is supposed to take care of the female. I'm going to clean you up and take care of you." His voice has mellowed out, with a softness which you haven't ever heard from Vegeta.
"Mating bite?" You ask curiously. Vegeta slowly wipes your neck, before moving to the apex of your thighs, cleaning your combines releases from you.
"Saiyans don't normally mate for life, but when we do we bite each other. Some scars, like mating bites, don't heal and we use them as markers of possession. Its to make sure female Saiyans don't get taken advantage of. It also helps mix our scents." You hum softly, eyes fluttering closed at his gentle strokes on your weak body.
"So I am yours?" You ask gently. He hums, before his other hand goes to stroke your hair.
"For life." Your eyes widen as you look at him. He looks nervously at your face. You pout and huff angrily. He flinches at your anger, and before he could apologize you cut him off.
"Well that's not fair. How am I supposed to mark you back?" His eyes widen.
"You're.. not upset at me?" You smile up at him, taking his cheek in your hand and rubbing it with your thumb.
"Out of all the people on this planet I'm the only one who can handle you most of the time. If that isn't an admission of love I really can't think of one-" You get pulled into a hug, and you hear him sigh sadly. You rub his back up and down.
"Listen Vegeta, I meant those words I said before. I really do admire you, and I do want to stick by your side. I mean, a warning would have been nice-" You say jokingly. He huffs a laugh. "But I really love being with you." You pull him away from you, and you see a small tear in his eye. You pull him forward and kiss his forehead.
"But never call me woman again!" You tell him warningly. He laughs out loud at that, and smiles widely.
"Alright, princess." You both lay back down, cuddling and spending the rest of your day in bed, ignoring the outside world.

BONUS:
"Vegeta isn't answering his phone-" Goku says worryingly to Bulma, who he bumped into while looking for the missing Saiyan.
"Yeah, he was busy." Bulma answers, before a full body shiver goes through her. Goku looks at her worried.
"Are you sick Bulma? And Vegeta knows we are training today-" Bulma snaps her fingers in his face.
"Goku, he's with (Y/N)." Goku looks at her confused.
"Are they training?" He asks innocently.
"Horizontally." Bulma says chuckling, before walking away. Goku looks down and thinks.
"Is that a better way to train?" He asks himself.

Would you write a fic where LW and reader have been best friends for years, both play for arsenal. They’ve both been in relationships until this year. Reader thinks she’s straight until she realises she’s in love with her best friend
Confessions
Thank you for the request anon!
I haven’t wrote anything like this before but I hope you enjoy it :)
Tumblr media
This past year had been a difficult one. It started out great - I was with a wonderful guy, I was doing well at Arsenal, and I had my best friends surrounding me.
Then it all went to shit.
In the space of a week I had caught my boyfriend in his bed with another girl and my childhood dog had passed away.
This was ten months ago and now there was another issue arising. My landlord had decided that now would be a great time to evict me. One night I had a few people round and apparently someone had complained about the noise. He said that he had past complaints about the noise from my flat which just wasn’t true but I really couldn’t be bothered to argue with him.
I had nine days to find a new place to live. Originally I had planned to just find another place to rent, however with the days going by and having no luck finding anything I was beginning to worry.
“Y/N! Pass the fucking ball!” Katie shouted, interrupting my thoughts. I snapped out of my day dream and quickly passed the ball to her.
“Sorry.” I replied.
She ran over to me and put her hands on her hips in a sort of ‘you better tell me what’s going on’ way.
With a sigh, my shoulders deflated as my mind went back to all the issues in my life. “I’m just stressing about this whole finding a place to live thing. You’d think in a big city like London there’d be at least somewhere that was available. But no…anything that is available is just ridiculously expensive and out of my budget. Like what am I meant to do? Live on the streets? If my stu-”
“You could stay with me?” A voice from behind me interrupted my rambling, and a smile took over my face as I saw it was Leah.
Leah and I had been close friends since I joined Arsenal three years ago, I mean we were literally inseparable from the first day of training. She was there for me through everything that had happened this year and I was there for her while she was going through her break up with Jordan.
Up until a couple of months ago everything was normal between us but then I started to get butterflies whenever she gave me a hug which then turned into feeling awkward whenever she’d hold my hand - everything that felt normal before now turned me into a complete mess. I had come to the realisation last month that I was in love with her…with Leah.
“Uhh…em. Do you have the room?” I stuttered, mentally kicking myself for acting so awkward around her.
“Yeah, Jordan moved out a couple of months ago so I’ve got a spare room.” She shrugged although I could still see that the mention of her ex-girlfriend’s name hurt her.
I scratched the back of my neck out of awkwardness before replying. “Only if you’re sure.” I said while scrunching my face up.
“Y/N we’ve been best friends for years, of course I’m sure.” She smiled. My heart sunk at the words ‘best friends’. That was all we would ever be and it hurt to think of that.
“Okay well if you insist.” I giggled.
———
“Is that all you’ve got?” Leah asked after I brought all the boxes with my stuff from my car and into my new house. There was a significantly smaller amount of things with me now than what Leah was used to seeing at my old place.
“Uh yeah, I donated some stuff. Decided to start over.” I laughed. Leah took a box and carried it into my new room, which was across the hall from hers.
“Well this is you. Feel free to decorate obviously…just don’t go knocking down any walls.” She deadpanned making me uncomfortable before she started to laugh at me. Leah was always like this.
With a roll of my eyes, I started to unpack the first of my boxes. As I turned to place my fake bonsai tree on the bedside table I noticed Leah staring at me with a small smile on her face, snapping out of it when she noticed I was looking at her.
“Takeaway pizza for dinner?” She asked.
“Yup. Plain cheese?” I replied. She nodded with a chuckle before turning to leave the room.
I spent the next hour or so unpacking everything and decorating the once plain room. It felt weird knowing that this room once belonged to her ex, I wasn’t entirely sure if they did sleep in the same bed while they were together, but I did know that this room was Jordan’s from the previous times I had come over. It just never once occurred to me that I would be living here with the girl that I had a fat crush on. How was I going to survive this? How would I manage if Leah ever brought home another girl or guy? I didn’t know how to feel.
“Y/N! Pizza’s here!” Leah called up to me from downstairs. I sighed to shake the doubts from my head before walking down to where Leah was waiting in the living room with one big box of pizza.
With a confused look on my face I opened the box, my confusion only growing as I confirmed that there was indeed only one pizza. “Where’s the other one?” I asked.
“Oh, I only ordered one. I thought we could share.” She shrugged as she sat on the couch and patted the cushion next to her, telling me to sit down.
My heart fluttered at the idea of sharing a pizza with her. “Cool. Sounds good.” I smiled, internally groaning at how weird I sounded. Leah returned a small smile before reaching over to take a slice.
Pull yourself together, it’s a pizza for Gods sake.
“You okay?” She asked with her hand covering her mouth to prevent the food from showing. I nodded before taking the seat that she had previously pointed at.
“Sorry, just in my own head.” I giggled as I grabbed a smaller slice than the one Leah had, letting out a small moan at the taste of it. Leah whipped her head to look at me with wide eyes as I blushed at the thought that I had actually done that out loud. “I’m so sorry, but holy shit where do you get this? This tastes better than most pizzas I’ve ate.” I exclaimed.
Leah laughed before shaking her head and wiping her hands with a napkin. “This chippy down the road. Discovered it when I was drunk and I’ve been loyal ever since. I can’t say I’ve ever moaned at the taste though.” She spoke, still laughing her head off. I rolled my eyes before taking another slice.
“Shut uppp.” I groaned. “It just slipped out.” I sighed, still feeling rather embarrassed about the whole situation. “Wait…you kept this delicacy from me this whole time?” I questioned, my mood now going from extreme embarrassment to confusion and slight betrayal.
“Guilty.” She put her hands up like she had been caught red handed before the both of us folded into each other in laughter. During our antics, Leah’s hand made its way onto the top of my thigh, making my breath hitch and my laughter halt. As her laughter stopped too, I looked up to see that she was already staring at me with a nervous look on her face and her eyes half closed, focusing on my lips.
“Leah?” I whispered. The tension in the room grew as the distance between us shrunk until I could feel her warm breath on my lips. My heart rate rapidly increasing as her eyes fully closed and her lips moved closer so that they were millimetres away from my own, my chest finally felt like it exploded as I finally felt the weight of Leah’s lips on mine.
I wrapped my arms around her waist and she wrapped hers around the back of my neck as her tongue licked my bottom lip, sighing as I opened my mouth wider and felt her consume me. We broke apart as the need for oxygen overcame us.
“Wow.”
“Yeah.”
I panted as Leah looked intensely into my eyes, making me feel more nervous than I had ever felt. “Are you alright?” I finally asked as she had been quiet for quite some time.
She leant forward so that her elbows were resting on her knees and her head was in her hands. Feeling immediately off, I reached forward with her and placed a comforting hand on the back of her shoulder.
In all honesty I thought it would’ve been me that was like this if we ever kissed.
“What was that?” She finally asked, leaning back into the couch and staring at me again. I felt my heart sink as she asked that. She sounded annoyed.
“A kiss.” I deadpanned.
“Obviously.” She rolled her eyes. I let out a breath as I mentally prepared myself for the possible rejection that could come from my next statement.
“I like you.” I replied, now looking anywhere but Leah as I didn’t want to see the current look on her face. “No…I love you. I have for awhile - well, a couple of months anyway.” I continued.
“Really?”
I frowned as I stared into the wall behind Leah. “Yeah. I’m sorry.” I said.
As I was getting up, a hand on my knee prevented me from moving anywhere. I took a deep breath as I looked at Leah, not seeing the disgusted face I though I would, in fact she had a huge grin on her face.
“I love you too.” She stated, making my world feel like it crumbled. She actually liked me back? I sat back down next to her and looked at her with wide eyes.
“Really?” I replied.
She laughed and leant in closer to me. “Of course I do, I thought I made it obvious but maybe not? Ever since that night when you held me while I was drunk crying, not complaining once about the snot that I had gotten on your favourite jumper. I love you, Y/N.”
“I think that’s the most romantic thing someone has ever said to me.” I smiled, noticing the crinkles on her nose as she smiled and the small freckles that dotted her nose.
“Shut up and kiss me.”

So I will say it would might be hard but what about Harriet as the Rusted Knight stand in. Spending years dealing with guilt and horror of her willing to nuke a city just because she was told too. She could call the Lighting Trailer or something.
(Fun fact! When initially thinking about the major plot threads for the Sharc AU, I was actually going to have Harriet fall into the Ever After, find the time fruit and become the Juniper of the Sharc Universe. I have since decided against that, and feel safe sharing it.)
Blake: My Gods! It's the-
The Galvanic Squall: You kids have been getting up to a lot, huh?
Blake: Y- Yeah? Wait, how do you know we've been up to stuff?
Yang: Have you been watching us or-

The Woman wrenches her face mask down while pulling off her goggles and hood.
Harriet Bree stood before them, her face wrinkled with old scars covering her face and ears, her hair pulled back into a mess of cable-like dreads, all streaked with dull gray and Electric Yellow.
Harriet: A Shit that Ironwood was ordering us to do- What the fuck happened!
Ruby: HARRIET?
Harriet: Yes! HELLO! I've been stuck here for-Fucking-ever!
Harriet: I mean, fuck I lost count after about the second month here, but I've been looking for- look, what was the last thing that happened to you?
RWBY: *Share worried looks*
Harriet: Okay, I get it, I'm in rough shape, just answer, alright!?
Weiss: uhm ... We only woke up here a day ago. before getting here, We evicted Atlas and Mantle to Vacuo using the Staff of Creation.
Harriet: Uh huh, Caused Atlas to sink, I'm aware.
Blake: Cinder Fall and one of her Cronies followed us into the In-between, and made us fall.
Harriet: Yep. I was Running Civies to the exit because Flame Girl and Polendina were fighting.
Yang: We all got knocked down here, obviously, and Salem got the Relic, but we know she doesn't have the maiden powers.
Harriet: Well. That doesn't sound great.
Ruby: Well, Neo, 'Cinder's Crony' fell with us. She hates my guts and ... It ... isn't good. Penny died. For real this time, no rebuilding, no recovering she's just ... gone.
Harriet: ... Oh. I- I uh.
Harriet: Wow. That's- I'm sorry. I know you two were close- she would never shut up- Er, Stop talking about you.
Ruby: We've all lost people. We can't sit around feeling sorry for ourselves. You Didn't.
_WBY: *look worriedly between each other and Ruby, who doesn't notice*
Harriet: Yeah, Well, I did my best to. Hell, I figured out how to dye my hair, gave me something to do while I waited.
Harriet: Also if you see a technicolor Cat, Don't Trust it. A couple kids Ran through years back and uh ... I couldn't find them. They just disappeared. If that Girl hadn't poisoned me I'd be certain they were just delusions.
Blake: A Girl? Was her name Alyx?
Harriet: *Squinting Suspiciously at Blake* ... How'd you know that?
Yang: It's a Book. The Girl that Fell Through the World. It's a classic!
Weiss: But there was only Alyx in the Story.
Harriet: The girl I met had a Brother. Lewis, and he was a lot more nervous and forward-thinking. And a hell of a lot more level headed. Lewis could stub his toe on a rock and he'd apologize to it. Alyx would stub her toe and make a guillotine for whatever tripped her up.
Blake: It sounds like we have a lot to talk about. Uh, do you have a place to stay or ...
Harriet: Yeah, I've got a cottage, let's move out.
Weiss: Well I'm glad you're not angry at us.
Harriet: Well, if it means anything ... I think you did the right thing standing up to the General. I know I made a mistake listening to him. *She beings walking*
Harriet: Come on, we might make it before sundown.

53. You’re blowing through my mind like the hurricane
Tumblr media
Masterlist - Previously - Next
Chapter soundtrack: Hurricane - Ofenbach, Ella Henderson
She had barely got any sleep that night and decided to avoid being out on Saturday. She didn’t want to see anyone and she had no badges anyway. She wouldn’t have been able to enter. Sure, she probably could have asked her dad to find her one, but she didn’t want to face him and despite Ethan’s words of reassurance, she still doubted that she had a place in his work environment. She was fine with the idea of staying alone in her room during the weekend. And she knew that the second she would go out, she would be circled by journalists trying to get a reaction out of her and she didn’t want that. She had the wonderful idea to look at the news in the morning and the number of articles about the rumored cheating scandal inside Ferrari were enough to make her want to throw up. And the press statement the team had released to announce her temporary eviction didn’t make her feel better. It had been a bitter pill to swallow but she understood why her dad had to do it. But it didn’t make the feeling of having been thrown under the bus any better. She only had given directions to her dad about the upgrades, he didn’t have to use them but yet, he had chosen to test her and to trust her. He was at fault too, but it seemed that she was the only one to take the blame.
A knock on her door took her out of her thoughts. When she opened she found her mom in front of her. She was the last person she wanted to see. She was still beyond mad at her for not giving her the possibility to talk to her dad.
“I don’t want to see you, mom.”
“Can we talk?”
“For what? To tell me that I only have myself to blame? That I should think about the consequences of my actions? That I failed, just like everyone expected? I already know all of that, I don’t need a reminder.”
“I wanted to protect you…”
“How? How is that protecting me? You made everything worse. I could have explained everything if you had let me! Now, dad won’t trust me anymore.”
“He spent the night in his office back at the hospitality. We had a fight about Zurich.” confessed her mom, tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry…”
“I helped you change it when you asked me, I agreed to not tell it to your dad… We both lied to him. That would be hypocritical of me to tell you that you deserve what is happening to you. You don’t and if I had known what was going to happen during the press conference I would have waited. I didn’t watch it, I learned about it after telling your dad about how I saw you using manufacturing plans from Lamborghini. And then he confronted me about Zurich and I didn’t have any other choice but to tell him the truth.”
“If only he could understand why I did it…” Julia sighed.
“Deep down he knows but it doesn’t make it easier to admit it.”
“Where is Louis?”
“Funnily enough, he is with your dad. He said he didn’t want to leave dad alone because he was sad. That the only ray of light in this story, our lies brought them closer.”
She spent the day with her mom in her room watching movies and talking about everything. It felt nice and she wondered when was the last time they had been together like that. It was late in the evening when Lyanna received a text from her husband, asking her if they could talk. As a family. His wife replied, telling him she was with Julia in her hotel room. He arrived shortly after and Julia noticed immediately the dark circles under his eyes. He entered, hesitant to sit on the only armchair of the room as Julia leaned against the wall and Lyanna sat back on the bed.
“Where is Louis?” Lyanna asked.
“Ethan said he could look after him, he is spending the evening with Kyle and Ludwig playing video games from what he told me and he asked Louis if he wanted to tag along.” Charles explained.
Silence set in the room, no one knew where to start until Charles took a deep breath and started to speak.
“I don’t want to lose our family.” he simply said. “I don’t want our lies to tear us apart. You are my everything.”
Julia stood up and went to her bedside table to retrieve an envelope which she gave to her dad.
“The USB drive is inside. I want to destroy it. I know it won’t bring back the trust you had in me but… it’s still something.”
“Why? I just… I don’t understand why you would feel the need to use it.”
Julia sighed and sat on the floor, in front of her dad, her knees pulled against her chest.
“I wanted to make you proud, I wanted to prove to you that I deserved to work with you, that I had what it took. But… I think mom was right, I wasn’t fully ready for this job. Not because I don’t have the abilities, I know I do, but because I wasn’t ready for this world. It’s a make or break one. And it broke me. I wasn’t ready for the attention, I wasn’t ready for the misogynistic behavior, for the rumors, for the constant traveling, the pressure… everything. I wanted for everyone to be proud of me, I wanted to feel useful and important and I didn’t see that slowly I was compromising myself. I lost sight of what was really important. And I’m sorry.”
“You don’t need to go overboard or to resort to cheating to make me proud, Ju’. I’m proud of you just the way you are.”
“I know that now.”
“What about you tell us everything? From the very start.” Lyanna said, sitting next to her daughter on the floor.
And Julia did. She told them about how Ethan approached her to ask for her help after the pregnancy scandal blew out, how she had told him no at first but how he kind of insisted and how she ended up accepting. She didn’t want to mention him blackmailing her but when her dad told her that Ethan had implied it, she didn’t have the choice.
“He… he knew about Zurich… drunk confession. And he recorded me and threatened to send it to you. Ironic how you ended up learning about it…”
“What an idiot…”
“Don’t be mad.”
“I’m not. I’m just stating the obvious. But you still fell for him after all.”
“Oh yes, I did.”
She explained how they couldn’t see eye to eye at first, how they were bickering almost non stop but how they still made it work. She told them that Louis knew about it and overheard them talking that day, after the karting day they all had organized. How horrible she had felt to lie to her family and how despite everything, it was the very first thing that brought Ethan and her closer. She talked about how after that something had changed between them and how Singapore started to blur the lines between what was fake and what was real. How, in hope to forget it, she had used Martin as a distraction. She could see how unfair it had been and how wrong she was. After Singapore everything was more complicated. She could still feel herself falling for him, fast and hard but thought it was just a game for Ethan. She didn’t want to allow her heart to get broken. And then she explained how it became completely real in Paris, how their actual first kiss was broadcast on live TV. She felt herself blushing, not daring to say anything further. She explained how it had been hard for them to go through fake dating to real dating, how they were not on the same wavelengths. How she was feeling confused and scared that she had made a mistake that she let her fears control her instead of living in the moment and learning how to love Ethan. But she knew that now, they were not ready. It had happened too fast and too soon.
“And then Canada happened and from there you know the rest of the story.”
“And the usb stick?”
“I swear I didn’t use it for a very long time. I had barely looked at it when I showed you the upgrade ideas. I knew how bad it could be and what people would think if it happened to be known.”
“But you used it for the new car.”
“Not at first… I noticed discrepancies between the data and I feared we were going the wrong way. I wanted to solve it fast and I thought… Since it would be a new season with new cars, it would be okay to use some ideas that Lamborghini introduced. I’ve never thought it would be interpreted like it had been. I know I made a huge mistake and I know that being sorry won’t restore your trust in me.”
“I see… I’m sorry about how I handled the situation. I should have listened to your side before deciding to postpone your role in the team but, I stand by what I said. It’s better this way. You need time to find who you are, take it but I promise you when you’ll be ready, I’ll be more than happy to have you onboard.”
She smiled through the tears. It felt good to finally come clean about everything. She needed it. Now she could move forward. It was now in the past and she intended to keep all of her mistakes there.
“And about Zurich…” she started.
“That’s a little too soon… I’m not ready to have this discussion.”
“Just… I’ve never been ashamed of being your daughter. Sure it has not always been easy but what matters is that now I’m proud and happy to say that you are my dad. I’m not trying to hide it anymore.”
Her dad smiled as well, sitting next to her on the floor and throwing an arm over her shoulders before pressing a kiss on the side of her head. He soon was joined by Lyanna who joined the hug.
“This family hug would be perfect if only Louis wasn’t missing.” Lyanna said.
“He hates hugs.” Julia stated.
“Not Ethan’s, apparently.” Charles laughed. “Julia, you know that there is still a badge for you, right?”
“I know, but I think it’s best if I stay away from Ferrari’s garage for a while. I’ll probably ask Romy if I can bother her in Audi’s hospitality. And it’s been a while since I’ve seen Seb. I hope it’s okay with you.”
On the other side of the building, far away from the heavy conversation, Ethan was playing a football game with his best friends and Louis who was revealing to be a tough competition.
“I won! Again! I’m better than you!” he jumped out of the couch as Ludwig was grimacing and Kyle was smiling happily.
“You did. Fair and square. Four times. Congrats little guy. But I believe it’s time for you to go back to your room, we all have to be ready for the qualifying tomorrow.”
“But you will win, right? It’s your home race. Romy won hers so now you will win yours.”
“If only it was working like that, Louis. If only.”
It was true. It was his home race. It was where he had the most supporters. And he loved the track. He loved the hazardous nature of it, even more when it was raining cats and dogs. He knew the history, the deaths linked to it but it was just adding up even more to its aura. And winning there must be so special. He wanted to feel it. At least once. But he had faith. The last two weeks, both on the podiums and his pole position had managed to restore his confidence. He was on a roll, he felt good in the car, he felt better inside his team, his mental health was on the right track thanks to Sofia. Nothing could stop him. He had never felt this happy in his life and he didn’t want to say it, but breaking up with Julia might have been for the best. Really, he felt like a better version of himself. A healthier one.
He arrived at the paddock earlier the next day. He was supposed to meet with Jackie and the kids to show them around. He wouldn’t have time to show them the garage and his car, as he had to do a lot of things today but still, it was important for him to make sure that everyone was feeling good and comfortable there. He also didn’t want to create any triggers to the kid. He knew the smell, the noise could be a lot. He found the group at the entry, right as they were getting out of the mini bus.
“Jackie! Over here!” he waved.
“Ethan! Look at the sign I made for you!” a kid said to him.
Ethan looked at the huge sign in front of his nose. It was a poorly drawn F1 car, in light blue with his name that didn’t fit in whole. That made him laugh.
“That’s very nice of you. Can I keep it? So I can put it in my driver’s room.”
He then proceeded to walk with them in the paddock, not before giving them their passes, and then showed them the Maserati’s hospitality where they would watch the race. He happily answered questions and some were almost starstruck to see other drivers. He was about to leave them to go to his meeting when he crossed paths with Romy who was laughing with Julia.
“Ethan, hey. Ready to have your ass kicked?” said the German girl.
“In your dreams, princess Romy.” he smiled. “Julia? How are you doing?”
“Good. I told my parents everything.”
“Everything,everything?”
“In detail. It felt good to finally come clean and to have all those lies out of the open. Now I can move forward and about that… I was wondering… do you know if Sofia could recommend me to a few therapists? After everything that happened these past months, I need to talk about them to someone and I need to understand myself better. And it worked wonders with you so I think… Why not me? I can’t be that hard of a patient?”
“Well…” Ethan laughed as Romy was giving her a side glance.
“You know what? I don’t want to know! Let me be delusional for a bit.”
“You're an angel.” Ethan said.
“A gem.” added Romy.
“You’re perfection made woman.”
“A delight.”
“The lighthouse in the raging sea.”
“The rainbow after the rainfall.”
“You guys are the worst!” Julia laughed, punching Romy’s shoulder as she rolled her eyes.
“I’m glad you decided to make that decision. You’ll see, it’s not that bad.”
“It’s time for me to grow up. I’m just sad it took so much time and a hard slap in the face to realize it.”
“You know what they say… it’s not about the…” started Ethan before being interrupted by Julia.
“I swear if you say, it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey, I’ll shove my feet so far up in your ass that you’ll talk all high for the next few days!”
“Have you thought about talking about anger management to your future… Hey, stop! Julia, not my hair!” Ethan started to scream as the brunette was trying to annoy him.
He finally managed to leave the girls and ran to his garage for his meeting. The qualifying started in less than an hour and he still had to talk to his team. He ignored the glances as he arrived and started to get ready. EVerything would be okay, he had a nice feeling over the weekend. He had never been so focused in his entire life. He could see the flags and hear people chanting his names even if he had his earphones and over the sounds or roaring engines. It was crazy and it was for him. He breathed deep and closed his eyes to enjoy the few seconds before he would be able to get on the track. And when finally he got there it was game on. He managed to set the time reference of the Q1, three tenths before Kyle. The Q2 was trickier. It was never his forte, he knew it was something he had to improve on but still made it to Q3.
“Dawson is out. Schumacher as well. Martinez too. You have a boulevard in front of you for the first line Ethan.”
“Let’s go.”
His first try was awful and he had to abort it after taking the apex a little too strongly. He mumbled a few insults before trying again one last time. It was now or never. He gave his all and when he crossed the checkered flag, he immediately turned on his radio.
“Tell me we got it. Tell me we’re in front.”
“And P1 for you. P1. Congratulations.”
“Fuck yeah!! That’s what I’m talking about!!”
He almost jumped out of the car after parking it in front of the number one sign. He looked at his team and at the kids who were gathered near the barriers and addressed them a thumbs up before shaking hands with one of the Mercedes drivers and with Martin who would start P3. Looking at the board quickly, he saw that Chloe was P4 which was her best result of the season and it made him proud. He moved to the media area, patiently waiting for his turn as he was looking around him. The crowd was gathered as close as they could get, waving at him and screaming his name. He waved at them as well and gestured a thank you before taking place in front of the journalist.
“Second Pole Position of your career in the span of two weeks. Congratulations. How does it feel to start tomorrow with no one in front of you and in front of your home crowd?”
“It’s unreal, really. I knew I had the car to put it at least on the first line but to say that I would get the pole, moreover here, yeah, it’s incredible. I don’t have the words.”
“What’s the strategy for tomorrow?”
“To be fast? I don’t know. Lamborghini seems to struggle, but you never know with those guys. Ferrari is still strong, we will have to be careful and Mercedes is fast as well. But I will give my all, that’s for sure.”
“Well, best of luck for tomorrow and I hope I’ll have the chance to interview you again.”
“Thank you everyone. See you tomorrow!”
That evening he had a nice meal with the kids, laughing and explaining everything to them and when he closed his eyes. He dreamt of a huge trophy and the highest step of the podium.
Audi’s garage didn’t have the same atmosphere as the very loud one in Ferrari or the organized chaos of Maserati. Order, discipline and speed were the main words there. In the corner of the room, in the space made for the drivers’ loved ones, Julia was observing everything. She was amazed by the efficiency of the team. Everyone was moving towards the same goal but it didn’t mean that the feeling there wasn’t almost homely. It felt nice, reassuring and Julia thought that it wouldn’t be her last time there.
“Julia Leclerc, you’re probably the last person I expected to see one day around here. How are you doing? The last time I really saw you, you were tall like that,” said Sebastian Vettel, bending down, his left hand palm turning towards the ground to show her a tiny space. She smiled.
“Yeah, and you looked younger. Soon you’ll end up in the retirement home.”
He laughed, taking her in his arms.
“I’m happy to see you. When I heard and read what happened on Thursday I thought a lot about you. You have an ally in Audi. Your dad and yourself. You can count on us.”
“Thank you. I appreciate it. I was thinking that I might be spending more time around here since I won’t work for Ferrari next year. I’m officially jobless… Well not really but… it’s complicated, you know how it is.”
“I don’t see you standing still in a corner. You are not made for that.”
“Yeah… but what else can I do?”
“There are a lot of things around here. I’m sure you’ll find something, you’re resourceful.”
She shrugged as she saw her best friend arriving, her blond hair in a braid and her big blue eyes, set on a clear goal: moving up a few positions. No matter what it took. She was starting between Elijah and Kyle but she knew her best friend, when she was out there she had no friends and wouldn’t care about how much she loved Kyle, she wouldn’t go easy on him.
“Kick those guys asses, Romy.” Julia hugged her.
“You bet I will.”
She got in her car as they were getting ready to drive her to the grid. Julia saw a camera from the official broadcast moving towards her. She looked straight at it, giving them her most beautiful smile and waved. If they wanted to capture her sad and trying to hide, they had come to her the wrong day.
After the formation lap, it was time for everyone in the garage to get silent. Eyes glued to the screen and on Ethan’s light blue car and number 32, she started to feel anxious. Race starts were always stressing her out. When the lights went out she felt relieved to see Ethan having a good start and defending his position against the Mercedes with everything he had. But the announcement of the yellow flag almost instantly made her shiver and even more when she saw her best friend’s Audi in the gravel. Her car had slightly bumped into the wall and she could see her getting out of it clearly angry, throwing her gloves on the ground. The screens were showing the replays of Romy’s onboard and Julia threw her head backward when she saw Romy going for the exterior of the first corner, right next to Kyle who was fighting the other Mercedes. She clearly didn’t have the space to go but tried anyway and Julia shook her hand as she witnessed her best friend being her reckless and sometimes stupid self.
“Are you okay?” Romy’s engineer asked her after her bump in the wall.
“What is he doing? For fuck sake, he swerved right when I was about to overtake him! What an ass!” she heard Romy’s radio message.
The broadcast showed, then, Kyle’s onboard. He couldn’t have done anything. He had been squeezed by the Mercedes and if he wouldn't have swerved, Romy and him would have both ended up out of the track.
“Didn’t see her. She was in my blind spot. What was she thinking, seriously?” Kyle complained. “Is she okay?”
“She is out of the car. She is fine.”
“Copy.”
Romy was coming back to the garage  right when the safety car was getting out of the track. Ethan was still leading and it made Julia smile.
“What an ass! Have you seen this? I swear he sleeps on the couch tonight!”
“Here’s your bottle of water.” Julia handed it to her, knowing full well that it was no use to try to tell her that she was in the wrong here. But when she gave her the bottle, she couldn’t help but notice how pale she looked and it worried her. “Romy? Are you okay? You look awfully pale…”
“Of course I’m good! It’s just a little crash, not the first and not the last.” she tried to hide it but while saying it, Julia could clearly see her hand firmly gripped to a chair, as if she was trying to lose her balance.
“Are you sure? Because you don’t look fine. Sit down, Romy. Please.”
“It’s okay! I promise maybe it’s just the shock of the accident! It’s nothing.”
“Still. I would feel better if you were going to the medical center… just to make sure!”
“I don’t need it! What would people say? Poor little Romy? Unable to handle a little bump in a wall? You know exactly what will be said. I don’t want to.”
To try to show her best friend that she was alright, she let go of her grip and stood still for a few seconds before stumbling and Julia barely got the time to catch her before she would fall on the ground.
“If you don’t want to go to the medical center, then I will take you to the hospital. And don’t tell me you’re fine, you’re shaking! And okay, maybe it’s nothing and just the aftermath of the shock but better be safe than sorry!”
“But what about Ethan? And I have to go to the media pen…”
“I’ll pay your fee, if the FIA dares to say something. And my best friend will always come first. Let’s go.”
Her heart wrenched thinking she wouldn’t be able to watch the full race and Ethan fighting, but making sure her best friend was fine was the most important thing, right now. They discreetly went to the parking lot to find Romy’s car and Julia helped her get inside the car. She was hot and pale. Clearly not okay despite what Romy wanted her to believe. They arrived at the hospital and soon Julia had to leave Romy alone as they were going to run a few chek ups. Her friend gave her a big smile but Julia could see the worry in her eyes. She could only hope that it was just her acting overprotective for nothing and that Romy was right and it was just the aftermath of the shock.
She sat in the waiting room and pulled out her phone to watch the remainder of the race. It was the last twenty laps and Ethan was now P4 after a pitstop. Chloe was P3 and Julia quickly understood that her role would be to help Ethan get his position back. Ludwig was P2, chasing the Mercedes. It was good, the more they were fighting at the front the better it was for Chloe and Ethan. Eight laps later, Ludwig was now leading the race as Ethan was overtaking the Mercedes and was now about to fight with his best friend. They were now entering in the last ten laps and Julia could barely breathe. She hoped for not another scenario like in Germany. For Ethan. For his sake. For all he had been through these past few months. For all the hard work and dedication, the blood, sweat and tears he had poured into his dreams. It was five laps until the end that he managed to finally get rid of Ludwig and fly towards his fate. For a second Julia almost thought that Ludwig was helping Ethan by slowing down the Mercedes. She breathed deep and increased the volume, listening to the final comments of a race that would still be engraved in her mind.
“And for the first time in his career, after a pole position in Germany and a second place, a second place in Zandvoort last week and an outstanding weekend, starting from pole position… In front of his home crowd, in front of the world, Ethan Verstappen is doing the lap of his life, look at that he is about to get the fastest time… And he did it! Ethan Verstappen is a Grand Prix winner!”
She felt a tear rolling down her face as she looked at her screen proudly. She heard his screams on the radio, she saw his gloved hand pointing at the sky, she watched his team hugging each other. She saw the pride and joy in the eyes of the crowd. She couldn’t believe it. He had done it. And she wasn’t there to take him in her arms.
Ethan knew he was going to get filmed, crying, but frankly he couldn’t care less. As soon as he got out of the car he jumped into the arms of his team. His ears were ringing, his world was swinging but he was so happy. He was on top of the world. His name would be remembered. He saw the kids, wearing his team merchandising waving at him and jumping around. He felt hands on him, words whispered in his ears from everyone. He saw Ludwig running to him and screaming in his face. He couldn’t make up what he was saying. He felt someone pushing him, grabbing his arms so he could go to the interviewing zone. He tried to search for one face in particular but couldn’t find it and soon a microphone was handed to him.
“What a lap, what a race. Congratulations Ethan.”
“Thank you… Thank you everyone, for your support throughout the weekend it’s… I don’t have the words. I’m sorry. Just… Thank you. I won’t be very talkative today, it’s a lot…”
“I won’t take too much of your time. Is there something you want to say?”
He thought about Julia, how despite everything she had always believed in him, how she had been one of the rare people to have faith in him.
“Actually I have something to say, or rather someone to thank. There is this one girl that is very special to me. I have not been the best guy lately but I tried to be better for her. Because she deserves nothing else but the best. I don’t want to sound corny and I know that she probably wants nothing else but to slap me right now because I’m exposing her, but I want her to know that I’m right next to her if she wants to let me. As her friend.” he quickly added, not wanting to sound like an idiot on live tv. He wouldn’t hear the end of it.
The podium celebrations had a very sweet taste. Really, he could and wanted to get used to them. He wanted the big trophy, he wanted to hear his national anthem, he wanted to be with his friends up there. Today it was Ludwig, Kyle finishing with a solid P6, but soon in the future he hoped he would win again and savor the podium with the two of them.
When the celebrations finally died down he went with Ludwig to meet Kyle, he wanted to know what happened at the start and was surprised and worried to see him running to them, his phone in his hand.
“We have to go to the hospital. Julia called me. Something happened to Romy.”

TLDR: no rent money, last time i was late w rent by 2 days i got an eviction notice, my cat needs urgent medical help, i’m out of work due to severely debilitating pain. extremely disabled, indigenous lesbian desperately in need of help. also a paragraph about how much i am sorry
my friend said, “nah bestie asking for help isn't shameful in any way. there's strength in knowing what you need,” but i still feel like crud
i am literally sobbing as i post this because i just feel... i feel like a loser, i feel worthless, i feel so many emotions right now because i’m so terrified and tired of asking for help. i’m terrified of people just being sick of me because i’ve needed help before, and i don’t know. i would never shame anyone else for needing help, and i know realistically it shouldn’t be shameful, but i personally feel shame because i feel like a failure. i feel like a loser/worthless/failure because of something that’s completely out of my control, and yet, the feeling is still there. i’m exhausted. i’m exhausted from being in this stressful, urgent situation. so i’m sorry. i’m so sorry i’m asking for help again, i’m so sorry. i feel horrible, i really do. i feel guilty for needing help. i feel sick. i’m trying not to, and i’m trying not to cry, but i’m typing this through very blurry vision rn.
as i’ve mentioned on my blog, i’ve been out of work due to severe chronic pain. i was able to work through my other disabilities. narcolepsy, my shitty mental health auDHD/bipolar, etc. but this chronic pain has been completely fucking debilitating. medical fatphobia tw incoming: i saw a neurosurgeon today and they won’t give me surgery because of “my weight being a risk for post-op complications, such as stitch rips”, so i just have to deal with the pain until i can lose enough they’ll operate on me ????????? i dont know what the hell i’m going to do........... this sucks so fucking bad i just wanna go back to work i hate living like this
my fiance needs her wisdom teeth removed really badly, but we had to cancel her appointment because the money we saved for it had to go to our cat.
possible animal death tw: my cat has bladder stones now................................. last time he had stones it costed almost $1k in surgery. the bladder stones will kill him if not treated, because toxins build up in the body and if he cannot pee... just sldfksldfkj i don’t wanna talk about it. he’s miserable.
Tumblr media
i’m going to have to dip in to our rent money, which was actually our tax money because i’ve not been working so tax money was our saving grace this past month, to keep taking him to the vet. however, last time i was late on rent just 2 days, they gave us an eviction notice and only 7 days to come up with rent. that was a fucking disaster. so i’m TERRIFIED!!!!!!!
i need help so bad. with just surviving being out of work, and now my cat... i’m super annoyed because i was desperate to get my baby sister a doll for her birthday but there’s no way that’s happening now.
anyway, i’m sorry. i’m sorry for everything. i’m sorry i need help. i’m sorry if you’re sick of seeing me on your dash for like the 3rd time needing major help.
i have set up a gofundme here https://www.gofundme.com/f/uwkhj-help-my-family-survive?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
however, if you’d prefer to donate directly, due to the fact that gofundme takes a big portion of funds, here are my accts:
pypl: [email protected], v: @oraclelauren (3177), ca: $selinaaakyle
every donation is going to be greatly appreciated, and i promise to pay the kindness forward in every little way that i can
please don’t put yourself out to help, but if you can help, my heart goes out to you with forever gratefulness

You're My Daughter
Lantern! Jason Todd X Lantern! Pregnant! Reader
Bruce Wayne X Daughter! Reader
Warnings:suggestive content, morning sickness, angst and explicit language
Words:1502
It's her little sister's graduation. She had to be there even with all the heartache that was caused with her and her, family.
Tumblr media
"there is so much going on right Alfred.. I.. I honestly don't know if I can make it
-"I understand Ms Y/N, but it's important to your family, your sister that you come to the Manor before Ms Cassandra's graduation tomorrow"
"I'll think about it but I can't promise"
That night I took a deep breath. I looked at my, seven month pregnant bump. I hold the eviction notice again. I have to leave the apartment tomorrow. I already packed my things and put my bags in my car. I walked back inside the house feeling empty, cold still felt like this before because Jason wasn't home. I saw a picture frame with Jason and I... I forgot to grab I held it my throat began to shake. I miss him so much it my makes me feel like shaking. I went the Manor late at night, I parked. I took a deep breath feeling a Braxton hicks contraction. I take a deep breath as it stops, I felt my daughter kicking.
"slow down baby.. let's try and wait for daddy ok"
I walked to the door holding my bag. I hesitated and knocked. I used to live here but, after all that's happened.. Alfred opened. The poor man nearly fainted as he looked at me in shock.
"miss Y/N!"
"hey Alfie long time no see"
"congratulations dear, please come in"
He let me in while taking my bag. I smelt the food he had probably been preparing for the party tomorrow. I stepped to the elevator to go to my room upstairs, before anyone saw me. Alfred accompanied me. I winced and hold the handle bar, feeling a sharp light pain in my back.
"miss Y/N may I assist you to your room?"
My feet are in so much pain "nah.. Maybe" I nodded, besides.. He wouldn't allow me to reject his help.
He smiled and helped me to my room. He moved the covers while laying the bag on the dresser. My emotions were everywhere. I hugged my grandfather. He was treating me so kindly. Like he still loved me.
He clears his throat "now off to bed, Ms. I shall get you something to help with the pain"
"thanks Alfred"
As he left. I kick my shoes off and I laid on the bed instantly relaxing. I grabbed a additional pillow putting it under my belly laying to help support the extra precious weight......... I hear a abrupt knocking. I put my hand on my belly carefully sitting up. I move the pillows from me. I feel a small sting of pain in my head with each knock.
"I'm coming, I'm coming. Hold on dammit!"
I stood opening the door to see my older brother Dick.
"one word and I'll kick your ass.. It's too early for explaining anything right now and I can't fix it with caffeine"
"you're pregnant?!" he shouted
"be quiet dimwit!!" I demanded slapping his shoulder.
The doors began to open. I was so nervous I couldn't move.
"pregnant? That's a word I didn't expect to wake--" Duke gasped "Aww Y/N!!"
"what are you all fools blabbering about I'm trying to read" Damian glared from his room, he looks at me.. "is your mind ill as well? Sit down!"
AWWW, he cares.. I remember Damian's shock when Jason confessed he was his Bodyguard for most of Damian's early life. They've been true brothers ever since.
"wait who's knocked up?!" Stephanie exclaimed and then looked at me, she gasped "no way!"
"knocked up?.." Tim looked at me in shock "I need some more coffee"
Barbara was in her wheelchair as she rolled from the room her and Grayson shared. She gasps seeing me. I can't do this. This is too much. Under pressure, I quickly go back into my room and lock the door behind me. I hear Dick trying to plead with me to come out. I took a shower and got ready staying in my room until the last second. We went to the Graduation Ceremony. I drove in my car following them. We each parked. I took a deep breath my feet already hurting in my dammed shoe's.. This is going to be a long day. I opened the car door. After he helped his girlfriend. Grayson walked up to helping me out. He shut the door. We went inside a large room with hundreds of seats and people. We all sat down. I sat in the back. Bruce was completely unaware of my presence. He was focusing in on Cass. Good now I can breath. They said her name, she stood from her seat. Dick began whistling, Stephanie cheering her on. She looked at us smiling. She grabbed her diploma she sat back down on her chair. She saw me and smiled. I gently waved to her. Bruce turns his head seeing me. I mouthed 'please don't'. After the ceremony I took the opportunity to leave. I walked back to my car
"wait!"
I turn my head to see Cass running to me.
"hey Cassandra" I softly said
"thank you" she hugged me "thank you"
"I'm always going to be here for you, even when I've messed up"
"you never did. You were hurt"
That I was. I parted from her before I started crying. She rubbed my arm in sympathy. The rest of the family left the building. I can't do this.
"hey Cass come back for pictures!" Stephanie shouted to her "and Y/N! Don't you dare leave. Come back to the Manor! We're doing a party and I know you must have cravings!"
"please" Cassandra pleaded
"alright fine" I softly said "I'm going to go ahead of you guy's and meet you there"
"ok" Cassandra smiled giving me one last hug.
I walk to my car. I'm so tired.. I look in my purse for my keys and grab them. I accidentally drop them. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. On top of that my lantern ring needs to be recharged. I try and reach for my keys but someone picks them up for me.
"big brother to the rescue, you look exhausted... I'll drive you there"
"Grayson.. I"
"I'll be quiet as a mouse and you can relax.. C'mon Y/N I miss my little sister"
"ok"
We got in my car. He started the engine and began driving. I noticed him taking side glances to me.
"what do you want to know?" I asked feeling the tension that was driving me insane.
"well since you're offering up info.. Why is your stuff all in your car? Did something happen?"
"yeah something did.. I can't afford my apartment.. You can't be mad at Jason.. He has Lantern business and.. I haven't heard from him since"
"wow sis that's a lot to deal with.. I'm sorry.. You know you are always welcome to stay at the Manor.. You're still apart of this family"
"please don't go there" I begged nearly crying
Everyone else pulled up Dick and I got out everyone stepped inside. I couldn't bare to look at Bruce. After a few minutes more people came for the party. I stood in the kitchen eating chips. I heard my phone ringing Jason! I answer fastly gripping my hair.
"Jason? Are you ok?"
-"hey babe--" he began to cough
"Jason?! W-What's wrong?" I carefully walked to the my room for privacy
I put my hand on my belly to brace myself as I sit down. I hear gunfire from an alien blaster on the other line. I then hear Jason yell out in pain.
"Jason! Jason!" the line cut off.
I began crying. I quickly tried to contact Kilowag.. Then every single lantern I knew. Nothing. I exhaled stuttering, I then start to sob. What if I've lost him? I have to go find him. I look in my bag grabbing the lantern to recharge my ring. Bruce opens my door abruptly. He carefully trys to take the lantern from me
"no! No!! I have to go find him!!" I demanded my body began shaking with anxiety.
He puts the lantern on my nightstand and pulls my shaking arms to him. I was shocked by his affection. He guides me to sit on the bed never letting me go. I part from him trying to dry my tears. He has to be OK. I grip Bruce's arms.
"I have to go find him dad" I pleaded.
"you can't Y/N.... I want answers you've come here with all your belongings, you're Pregnant. Where is Jason?"
"Jason just called me.. There was gunfire and then his line dropped" I cover my face as I try to keep from breaking ".. I had to leave my apartment and.. "
Bruce's face, fell into heartbreak. I would storm off if I could run fast enough. He put his hand on my back as I covered my face. We hugged each other again, as I truly broke in my Dad's arms.

Wacky Wahoo Pizza Man gets high and the Devil cries
Tumblr media
You are one of the many spiders that have squatters rights in the Devil May Cry shop. Since the business is never cleaned, you have lived many long years (in terms for a spider) and have seen various sights. Today you sat in the corner of the windowsill and noticed the owner return. You were about to jump for joy since this meant there would be another food source (the trail of ants left behind from Dante) when you noticed a new face. There was a human woman you had never seen before.
"Are you sure this is safe Nico?" You noticed the woman had a large canister. "All the best things in life aren't safe. Why do you think I drive without a seatbelt? Besides, don't yer demons powers stop you from dyin'?". The man thought it over. "I guess you're right. But what about you? Don't you need a gas mask?" Nico readied her spray nozzle. "Those are for pussies. YOLO!" To your horror you recognized what she was doing. She was about to bug bomb the entire place.
Green mist filled the entire room. You tried to run but your little legs only carried you so far. You had just been evicted and the house was your body. "Well that takes care of that!" Only Dante and Nico were left standing. "Do you feel any different?" "I feel really good actually." It turns out that Nico had sprayed more than a lethal amount of rat poison. Dante survived due to his demon genes and Nico had enough tolerance to survive due to all her substinance abuse. They did however reap some side effects. The two of them were now unknowingly tripping balls.
Dante stumbled around but he usually did that when he was drunk anyway. "I.. can- my legs don't work." He then devil triggered and began to fly around for movement. "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" Nico shrieked. "NICO WHAT IS IT!?" She started to tremble and point her finger. "The-there's a monster in here!" Dante panicked. "SHIT! Okay Nico, stay calm. Can you tell me what it's doing?!" She shook. "It's just standing there.. MENACINGLY!"
The both started to move around and scream. Nico picked up her cellphone and dialed Nero. "GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE, THERE'S DEMONS!". Luckily Vergil was with him when the call happened so they just used Yamato for transportation from Fortuna. "YOU BETTER HAVE A GOOD REASON FOR THIS OLD MAN!" Nero opened the door and vapour blew out of the building, causing both father and son to violently cough. "What the fuck-" Before Nero could finish his sentence the room cleared and showed a frightened Nico wielding a frying pan and a crying Dante hugging a jukebox for comfort.
"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!" Vergil cried. Nero then noticed the gas canister. "I think I have an idea pops." Nico and Dante were now sound asleep and on the couch. "You think they've been poisoned!?" Vergil asked alarmed. "You tell me what the two of them were doing with so much rat poison! Anyway we'll watch them and see how they are when they wake up." Vergil sighed. "I guess all we can do is wait and see then."
Nico was the first to wake up. "Huh? What happened? Wait. GIANT MONSTER!" Nero tried to hold her down. "Nico calm down! It's alright. You were just hallucinating." She stopped and her breathing returned to normal. "Ohhhh! Yeah that makes sense. We tried to bug bomb this place to hell n' back." Nero shook his head. "You know that's way too much right? Please just stick to making devil breakers next time!" Nico gave a salute and said "Got it."
There was a yawn and everyone noticed that Dante finally woke up. "Guys, watch out, there's a scary monster hiding somewhere! Vergil hold me!" He then clung onto his elder brother. "ABSOLUTELY NOT! Dante what's gotten into you!?" He then turned to Nico. "You. Speak now woman!" Nico stretched her arms outs awkwardly. "Okay but before I tell you, you have to promise not to get mad!" The room was silent. "Okay, Okay. I was hangin' with yer' bro last night and things got a little... shall we say out of hand?" Nero raised a brow. "What do you mean?" She sighed. I may or may not have dared him to do whippets and then chug five bottles of bleach." Nero snapped. "NICO, WHAT THE HELL!"
"YOU SAID YOU WOULDN'T GET MAD!" Nero smashed his fist into the wall. "I NEVER SAID THAT AND WHY DID YOU THINK IT WAS OKAY TO GET MY UNCLE TO AGREE TO THAT!" Nico stood up. "I CAN'T HELP IT! HE'S THE COOL DAD I NEVER HAD!" Vergil face palmed. "Jesus Christ Nero, what is so wrong with you that you feel the need to associate with these people?" Nico was about to throw the frying pan at Vergil's face until Nero intervened. "Guys, we need to take care of Dante until the poison wears off. Can you do that for me?"
Nero was setting up the VCR while Nico went outside for a smoke break. Vergil had awkwardly embraced his brother in the hopes that it would help calm him down. "Jeez doesn't he have any g rated movies? Most of these are just horror or porn. Some of them being both." Nero said with disgust. "Just find something. I'm not sure how much longer I can take this!" His son just laughed. "Would it kill you to show him some affection dad? Anyway I think I found something. There's no Disney tapes but it's g rated and has cartoon animals." "Just put it on then!" his father groaned.
Everything was peaceful for a while until Nico heard a scream come from inside. "What's wrong!?" It turns out that the movie Nero put on was watership down. Dante was muttering something about rabbits and sobbing into Vergil's shoulder. Nico offered to go to the video store to pick up a tape and maybe some pizza. "How about bambi-" "NO!" Nero and Vergil screamed in unison.
She returned with some episodes of Sesame Street. Dante had managed to calm down and was now nibbling on some pizza. "Look Dante. Elmos red, just like your coat!" Nero was trying his best to cheer his uncle up. "Yeah.." he giggled. "Red is always better than blue, isn't that right Vergil? His favorite was always Grover because they're both book nerds." Vergil grit his teeth. "Dante..." "What kid even likes Grover anyway? Elmo is where it's at, I mean look at all the toys the fucker gets-" He looked down to see his brothers sword protruding from his ribcage. "I guess the fun's over then."
Nero grabbed his father by the coat "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!?" Vergil just glanced towards his brother. "Evidentily he seems fine to me." Nero looked at Dante only to notice that Yamato was removed and his uncle was now poking his wound for fun. "Don't tell me he was acting this entire time..." Nero groaned. "Jackpot kiddo. I had to get your friend back for last night. I don't think she'll be causing trouble anytime soon."
"And what about Vergil?" His uncle grinned. "C'mon, you know he would never hug me under normal circumstances." His brother was equally annoyed now. "I hate you Dante." "Aww, I love you too bro, let's hug it out some more!" This quickly earned him multiple stabbings. Nero then exited the building. "Why can't I have a normal family for once in my life!?"

Cause of pain
Part 21
Despite my great desire, I had backed out from the intimacy. I couldn't do it, it wasn't because of him. He was patient and sweet. It did feel dickish to cut it off at the heat of the moment, only I couldn't do otherwise. He wasn't even disappointed, understandingly he stopped and we went to sleep. At least he was asleep, I was fretting. Just before I could no longer stay awake, I had decided to go home tomorrow morning. It had to happen sometime and I could use some more clothes and such.
Looking at my clock, it is almost 11 o'clock. In two stops I will be at the bus stop where I need to get off, then it will be about a ten-minute walk until I get home. I do like having my own stuff again, but somewhere I also dread it. Knowing what my little flat looks like. How all the newspaper cuttings are scattered across the floor, the files laid out on my table. My walls plastered with clues that lead nowhere. Not to mention the remaining clutter, from empty takeaways, clothes thrown where ever I wanted. It is a mess, a huge big depressed mess, a house full of sadness and anger.
The bus driver announces my stop, at which I get off. I have lived in this neighbourhood for a while and can dream my way home, so I know that halfway along my route there is a grocery shop, where I get a few rolls of rubbish bags and also cleaning supplies. Now that the truth has come out, all the information lying in my house is of no use to me anymore.
Standing in front of my building, I take a deep breath. What no one knows is that I lost my job three months ago. I do have some money in my account, mostly from the benefit I get. But I mainly use that to get food, and am now two months behind on my rent. As quietly as I can, I walk into the building to avoid the landlord. But it won't be my luck that when I take my first step inside the landlord opens his door. "Aha, there you are! I still get two months' rent from you, if you don't have it within an hour, I will evicting you." His irritation dripped off of him, there was no point in negotiating with him now. He has made up his mind. After his berating, he turns and walks into his house, with a bang his door closes.
My flat is on the third floor; there is no lift in the building, so I have to climb six flights of stairs. Closing the door behind me, I keep leaning against it for a moment. The heavy dank atmosphere overwhelms me. Everything in this house reminds me of the past year, the tears, the search, the hopelessness. Everything here makes me feel like I can't breathe. Which also makes me think about the past days, how easily I went along with being with Jake. It makes me angry again, looking at the mess, it could have been avoided, all of this. With a deep sigh, I put my backpack down when I realise that my sleeping bag is still with Dan. I shrug, that thing I will see again some time. And as for my rent, I clean and tidy up here, then I leave myself.
First I pulled everything off my walls, then everything off the floor and table. Every clipping, file or piece of string went into the rubbish bag. Fortunately, I finished fairly quickly. The flat is not big, one bedroom, living room, bathroom and a kitchenette that sits in the living room. After getting rid of everything regarding the search, I gathered all of my clothes and took them to the laundry, in the basement of the building. While my laundry was running, I got to work on the rest of the mess.
Around five-thirty, as I am folding the last few pieces of clothing and preparing to put them in my suitcase, there is a knock on my front door. Cautiously, I open it. Pasted on my front door is the eviction notice. "Your hour is long gone, enough is enough. You have twenty minutes to leave the premises, if you don't I will call the police." The landlord is less irritated, but clear. "No problem. I have tidied and cleaned everything, in twenty minutes I will hand in my keys. I'll see you downstairs." I answer him as I close the door in his face.
With two full suitcases and with my backpack on my back, I stand outside. Now I am homeless, and panic strikes slightly. There is only one person I can think of to ask if I can stay there. I grab my phone and dial the number, it takes a while for it to be answered. "Hey Layana, are you OK?".
"Hey Lilly."

So fucking long 2023!
o7
This year was super hard. We lost our home after the winter eviction ban ended. We had plenty of notice and started saving for a home and got stuff together for a mortgage app last year. Which is when we discovered my boss wasn't paying any tax at all. (here your employer pays your income tax on a weekly or monthly basis, it's handy because you don't have to file yourself... as long as your employer isn't on the take).
It wasn't the best news.. it led to a lot of bullshit. The boss, she tried to get me to quit, went on a full offensive. Suddenly I was shite at my job, I had extra work, I wasn't allowed leave despite being there voluntarily for 0 pay some days, I was barred from doing commission work while in the shop (again despite being unpaid and not under contract), she took my desk away, and a heap of other things. The boss stopped speaking to me for weeks at a Time, she'd take clients away from me, she would order replacement gear that was incorrect, she complained that I took 4 days off (unpaid again) to move my stuff out of the apt and into storage. She told me I should sleep in my storage unit, she got blood on my table and some of my gear and I had to throw it all out, shed often berate my clients for showing up early, write their appointments on the wrong days or the wrong times or not at all or at times, triple book a slot. All because I had the nerve to bring this to her and say "hey this is your responsibility to put right, please do the right thing for all of us".
That's when the gaslighting started, she"d always, apparently, been totally upfront with how much fraud she was going to commit on our behalf. Fuck off.
It was a dark time. I just needed to save enough to leave. I had a tentative brush with a bigger shop in the city, but it didn't work out. Self esteem was gone. Stopped drawing entirely, stopped programming. Real dark night of the soul shit. I was quickly losing options, and hope. People were getting sick of me. Every waking g minute was spent in agony. Obsession, anger and betrayal, failure and defeat. My future disappeared, id wasted 10 years if my life, my career was over, my home was gone, my savings were illegitimate, my pension, I don't even want to think of my public pension, probably not happening.
I was left to sort my own taxes. Paying late fees can really fuck you over. I've experienced that now. lucky me! Looking that scumbag in the face every day after that was a crash course in self control.
Anyway, so the boss couldnt keep it between just me and her and lashed out at the entire staff. Eventually my apprentice piercer walked out. It wasn't warning enough for the boss so she continued. Eventually she fucked over our tattoo artist and apprentice, got called on it and started freezing her out too. for a period of time she would ONLY COMMUNICATE WITH THE TATTOO APPRENTICE AND NO OTHER STAFF MEMBER. So the artist quit. And seeing as the artist was teaching the apprentice, she also left. Which left me alone with her. FOR MONTHS
more dark night of the soul goes here.
But this is where my story looks up, lads. See the 3 of us were conspiring. We know how to run a shop together, between the 3 of us. And so the plan was put in motion. 2 weeks after she quit the artist was jn her own brand new studio, 3 weeks later the apprentice had arrived. And then finally, finally, after ten years of working in the shop, in November I handed in my notice. 100% staff attrition in 2023, every single employee had left.
I'm renting a spot in that same new studio now. Been 5 weeks so far and... well I make less money atm, but we are hoping people find out we've all gone and come over. We're in the same town which is apparently a fucked up thing to do but.. now I think about it, the person who told us that was that scumbag ex boss of ours.
I'm drawing again, which you can probably tell from following this tumblr. I'm programming again. I have shower thoughts about OCs and monster design instead of hopeless, desperate plotting or seething anger. My mind is healing. I've also stopped bloating horribly and I haven't had an anxiety attack all month.
Good news :D. Thanks to me finally sorting the tax situation myself we finally applied for the mortgage. Results soon, so here's hoping. I'm staying with my wife in my parents house, who have been very kind to us. My wife, after years of us trying is now pregnant with our first baba. A boy. Due in February, so after setting up the business we are prepping for him. There's a lot of work to be done, but after floundering for years and, imo actively drowning for most of 2023 I can finally say things are actually hopeful now. We might still be able to rebuild both of our lives after this fucked up person just kind of... arbitrarily decided to fuck it up for her own benefit and hoped we wouldn't find out.
2024 is gonna be weird and hard, but I'm looking forward to it.
If you've read this far thank you. It was a stupid year. It was a painful year. And now it's fucking OVER.
