summary: fred and george open their shop and she's late to the grand opening. she finds ginny and hermoine standing by the love potions. she uncorks one to make the girls feel better, but she's shocked by what she smells.
word count: 1523
warnings: fluff, one mention of drinking
notes: since this was winning the poll, here you are ;)
Her day did not start how she hoped it would. She had taken the day off, but the world had other plans. She had been called into work at 3AM, unable to say no. She told her supervisor that she absolutely had to leave before nine, but she ended up being there until a little after ten. She had rushed home after her shift. She intended on going straight to the shop, but she looked like hell. She hurried to get changed and make herself look presentable to the public. Seven hours at the hospital had left her hair a mess, and it wasn’t easy to tame. She ended up pulling it back in a braid, smoothing her hair the best she could. She didn’t bother trying to cover the dark circles under her eyes, it was pointless. She had stopped for a coffee on her way to the shop, needing as much caffeine as she could to stay awake. She hurried down the sidewalk, practically jogging. She grinned when she saw the shop, the boys really weren’t ones for anything subtle. Walking into the joke shop was like something out of a movie. It was lively from the second the twins had opened the doors. She had been caught up, not able to make it right when they opened. She found herself wishing she was here when they opened the doors. It was almost ironic how magical the whole scene was. She promised her best friends that she would be there as soon as possible. She brought her coffee to her lips, forcing herself to only sip it. If the caffeine couldn’t keep her awake, the energy in this shop definitely could. It was buzzing with life and laughter.
She smiled to herself as she looked around. Kids were running around the shop, looks of awe on their faces. Teens were eyeing candies that would definitely get them out of class. She forced herself not to shudder at the many memories of the prototypes for all of those candies, and the time she accidentally ate a fainting fancy. It took mere seconds for her to hit the ground, yelling at Fred and George when she woke up. She found herself overwhelmed by a sense of joy for the twins as she looked around trying to find them in the crowd. The shop was packed, she figured it would be. She was so proud of both of them. She finally spotted the two, buzzing around the shop, talking to almost everyone as they zipped around. She figured the twins would find her soon or later, not wanting to interrupt them as they hastled a group of what looked to be first or second years.
She spotted Hermoine and Ginny at a display of what looked to be love potions. She had to hand it to the twins, the display would easily draw anyone in. It was gorgeous. She made her way through the crowd and greeted the two girls. "What are you two up to?" She asked, picking up a heart shaped vial, turning it over in her hand. "We're just looking." Ginny mumbled, her cheeks slightly pink. She let it slide, already knowing what they were doing. She knew Ginny had a crush on Harry, and she knew that Hermoine was pining after Ron, even if she would deny it. "Well, I'll just look, too." She winked, uncorking the vial. “I’m sure they won’t mind.” She brought the vial up to her nose, freezing at the smell. Vanilla, pumpkin juice, floo powder, and cedarwood. She corked the vial, slowly putting it back on the display. She looked up to the two girls, hoping her cheeks weren’t as red as they felt. Ginny gave her a knowing smirk, but Hermoine looked clueless. “What did-?” Hermoine started to ask, but was cut off by the twins. She felt her cheeks burn a little hotter, causing Hermoine to smirk. That partially answered her question.
"Hello ladies. Love potions, eh?" The twins said in unison. Her cheeks burned as she met Fred's eyes. Oh, for merlin's sake. "They really do work!" Again,  in unison. The two girls wandered away, putting the potions back. George was quickly distracted by a group of young wizards, leaving her and Fred alone. She tried her best to avoid his eyes, hoping her blush would fade. "I'm sure you won't be needing that anyway." Fred slung an arm over her shoulder, "Glad you're here." He gave her a small squeeze. She leaned into him, fiddling with her sleeves. "Quite honestly, I might. You seem to be quite thick headed." She bit her lip, glancing around the shop. The silence that fell over them was deafening in the loud shop. “Uh, anyway, I do have to get back. I took an hour so I could come down.” She finally looked up at Fred, only to find him already looking at her. “What time are you off?” She noticed a faint shade of pink across his freckled cheeks. Maybe he wasn’t that thick headed. “6ish? I’m covering for Lottie so she can get some rest. We’ve been beyond short.” She fiddled with the hem of her sleeve, trying her best not to seem nervous or utterly embarrassed that she not-so-subtly told Fred she liked him. “We’ll be done around 7. Can I stop by?” Fred gave her a hopeful look. She fought the smile tugging at her lips. “Since when do you ask before you just show up? You know you’re always welcome.” She gently nudged him with her shoulder. “Sooo, is that a yes?”
She arrived home earlier than she thought she would, Lottie came back after a ‘four hour power nap’. She took the extra time to relax. A long, hot shower followed by a glass of wine and her favourite satin slip. She had contemplated not wearing pyjamas, but she did anyway. If it were anyone besides Fred stopping by, she would’ve grabbed a jumper and leggings, but Fred had seen her in a lot of scandalous situations over the years. She was curled up under a blanket on her sofa about to doze off when a knock sounded at her door. She reached for her wand, haphazardly flicking it, hoping it would actually open the door. She heard the door shut, followed by footsteps coming up the stairs. “I’m offended, couldn’t greet me at the door?” Fred asked, feigning a hurt tone. She pushed herself up at the sound of paper crinkling. She gave Fred a confused look, but a smile graced her lips when she noticed exactly what he was holding. “How rude of me! I didn’t know you were bringing a poorly wrapped gift.” She teased, patting the spot next to her. She watched Fred as he moved across the room. She reached out, tugging on his coat as he crossed in front of her. “Take your bloody coat off.” She murmured. A small laugh came from him. “Hold this then, bossy.” He pulled his coat off, laying it over the back of her sofa before sitting next to her. His hand clasped over hers as she went to shake the paper package. “Just open it.” He laughed. “And I’m the bossy one.” She mumbled, narrowing her eyes at him. Fred leaned back, throwing his arm along the back of the sofa behind her. She pulled the twine and began unfolding the paper. She felt her cheeks heat up when she saw what he had wrapped up. She took the heart shaped vial in her hand, turning her whole body to Fred. “You’re a bloody idiot.” She gave him an exasperated look. “Merlin, read the label, love.” He laughed. She let out a huff, looking down at the label. The original label had been peeled off and was replaced with Fred’s handwriting. The label had been replaced with a description of her perfume, the smell of her shampoo, the tea she always drank, and what could only be described as the smell of St. Mungos when you walked in the doors. “You could’ve just got me flowers.” She mumbled, peeking up at the red-haired man sitting next to her. “Or, I don’t know, asked me on a date anytime in the past two years.”
“You said you might need it.” He teased, his arm falling around her shoulders and pulling her into his side. She leaned her head against him, pulling her blanket over his lap. He pulled her closer against him. “Do I?” She whispered, turning the vial over in her hands. Fred pulled away from her, bringing his hand up to her face. His fingers curled under her chin, gently pulling her gaze to his. His thumb brushed over her bottom lip as he gave her a small smile. “If I ever say yes, I want you to force me to drink that.” He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her lips. Her eyes fluttered shut as she kissed him back. She moved his lips against his, reaching up to tangle her fingers into his hair. She pulled back, resting her forehead against his.

i’ve seen relationship therapists and psychologists analyse hermione and ron’s relationship and conclude that they wouldn’t work out in the long run. they’ve argued for hermione to be with harry, krum, even DRACO (don’t understand how a counsellor can vow for canon dramione but alright) as an alternative partner for hermione since ron is “too insecure” to be with her and match her intelligent prowess or what have you.
i seriously don’t understand this sentiment. ron and hermione genuinely seem (almost) perfect to me, maybe not in the movies (a common denominator of people who don’t like romione is that they always cite evidence from the movies, since the films took a lot away from ron’s character and his growth), but definitely in the books.
looking at ron’s insecurities, a lot of people dredge his inferiority complex up to toxic masculinity primarily, when it was more explored how it was an effect of his home life (not gonna argue toxic masculinity wasn’t a factor, they’re teenagers in the 90s written by a pretty misogynistic woman so…). he was the youngest son out of how many children? all of his older brothers were brilliant in some way. bill was an extremely gifted spellcaster, charlie was gifted with magical beasts, percy’s academic score was unmatched, and fred and george (despite their trouble) were entrepreneurial inventor-geniuses. ron, on the other hand, was quite literally born a disappointment to his mother, who conceived him specifically because she wanted a daughter, whilst ginny was born her favourite (though, even then, ginny was gifted at quidditch). ron was mediocre in every sense of the word, and his two best friends were harry (one of the most famous wizards) and hermione (the smartest witch of her age yada yada). and i’ve seen people argue that harry was more welcomed by molly into the weasley household than ron ever was. this isn’t even mentioning the amount of bullshit he copped for being poor (people always downplay the blow to confidence being in poverty can have on a person who is constantly surrounded by people who not only have more, but look down on him for simply being unlucky as to not have what they do).
so yeah, ron was an envious kid, but he was that way not because he was an evil patriarchal conception but because he was lowkey neglected. and even then he was overall an extremely devoted and loyal friend to both harry and hermione, because he did genuinely love them.
there were many moments of ron standing up for hermione that was cut from the films, not as a guy who was romantically interested in her, but as a friend. ron arguing with snape for making hermione cry is one of my fav scenes in the books ru kidding me, and in the movies he AGREED with snape RU KIDDING ME. not to mention how ron was a sobbing violent mess when hermione was getting tortured in the last book, whereas he wasn’t nearly as bothered in the films. and the films cut out harry being a dick to ron about his familial concerns (in dh), so when ron left it seemed like a random dickish move over his jealousy towards harry and hermione’s relationship.
there’s also a million moments where they minimised ron’s usefulness in the books for comedic purposes (forbidden forest with aragog, troll scene, devils snare scene) so ron seems dumber than he is. like, he’s actually smart and a really good spellcaster…. in the books.
so simply by stating this most of the arguments against romione become void. “he’s too stupid/weak for her” simply not true. “he’s a terrible friend who doesn’t stand up for her” also not true. “he’s too insecure to have made a move on her,” yes, but given the context i don’t think people would freak on about ron’s upbringing, i think many would be more understanding, especially considering his growth. even if he wasn’t insecure, hermione is beyond incredible and is bound to make anyone nervous when pursuing her (not an excuse for ron to act like a dick, but it does explain a lot where the movies don’t). “they argue too much” they bump heads, none of the arguments they have are actually super damning, with the exception of ron leaving in deathly hallows.
maybe i’ve covered everything (excluding the abhorrent amount of classism that clouds people’s judgments around how they view ron when harping about how hermione deserves better? hopefully).
now, i know people won’t like me mentioning the cursed child, but i’m going to considering we actually get an insight of their life as a longterm married couple there. a lot of ron stans hated how ron was the only character that wasn’t doing something incredible. harry was head of the aurors, ginny was a famous quidditch player retired to a famous journalist, neville was a hogwarts professor, hermione was quite literally minister on magic. and ron…. ran the joke shop with george.
and i think this was almost the perfect route to go down for ron. because he was average, and was perfectly fine with just being average. hello?? that speaks leagues of growth for his character. he’s supportive of hermione’s work, he grounds her when she gets too caught up in being the literal president of wizarding society, and he still viciously defends her, minister or not. in fact, he’s proud to simply be known as hermione’s husband because he doesn’t feel the need to prove to anyone else his worth. the people he loves most know his worth, hermione never downplays or underestimates him, they are complete equals in the relationship in every single way that matters. they kept ron’s best qualities whilst making him seem more of a healed person. they work so well as a married couple without it seeming like mischaracterisation (not to mention the cursed child literally shows how those two are in love in every reality, so there quite literally can’t be a better partner for hermione or ron according to canon).
so i really don’t understand how professional relationship counsellors can go online and denounce it. probs because they only watched the movies, but it’s 2023 and ron stans should not STILL be fighting for their lives trying to defend him from people who simply don’t consume media with as much depth (which is fine, but one should clarify if they’re talking about the movies because i’ve seen people state they’re talking about the hp BOOKS when it’s simply just…. the films). anyways. romione on top, thanks to coming to my ted talk.

Tangled Unbraided
For ages I've wanted to find a way to use the old fractured fairytale idea of "Rapunzel Unbraided" Disney was going to do in the early 2000s, and decided to just go ahead and show what I've got. So here's some sketches of how the main characters would appear in this hypothetical Tangled spin off movie:
Tumblr media
The original synopsis for Unbraided ran as thus:
“An evil witch named Lucretia despised fairy tale happy endings and plotted to change all that. Meanwhile in modern day San Francisco, Claire and Vince are two vastly opposite teenagers who cannot stand one another. Claire is a short haired, fashion obsessed teen who was concerned with her looks. Vince is a stocky and crude pizza delivery boy on hard times. The two of them get on each other's nerves which gets the attention of Lucretia in the fairy tale realm. Lucretia takes Rapunzel and her prince Beau and transforms them into a squirrel and dog, respectively, while Claire and Vince find themselves filling their roles. Claire and Vince eventually team up with Rapunzel and Beau to defeat Lucretia and return to their respective places in time. “
---
And I'd want to follow the basic plot of that, though with changes with what we have from the actual Tangled movie. But basically two teens from 2007 San Francisco (why not make it a 'period' piece with all this Y2K nostalgia going on that makes no sense to me, a Y2K kid x) get reverse Enchanted and find themselves in the Everrealm. Searching for a way home, mentored by a talking squirrel and dog that claim to be famous fairytale characters also trying to regain their human forms.
The reason the witch tries to recreate the Rapunzel story with two people who are unlikely to give it a happy ending is that she's trying to make a spell to warp reality and bring about another golden flower (so that we can have the one that eventually shows up in Sofia the First) and so gain immortality for herself.
My ideas for the growth journeys each character goes on in this hypothetical movie is of course that Claire and Vince both learn to be more comfortable with themselves/find their real potential, as well as learn that its ok to trust others emotionally, both in a platonic sense with Eugene and Rapunzel mentoring them, and romantically with eachother as they get closer.
Rapunzel and Eugene would have this be an opportunity for them both to work through the concerns they both have about being parents. Sure they both have better parental relationships now, but both grew up with either abusive or absent parents (and then hyper protective ones in Rapunzel's case with Frederick) and though they both want kids they're afraid they might still mess it up. So, getting to help these two teens find themselves and their way home gives them a sense of the type of parents they'll be, and that they'll be ok in the end.
(They also all eventually find out Claire is their many times descendent and thats why she looks like Rapunzel so much, and why the spell called her into Rapunzel's place)
For the Witch I decided to change her name from Lucretia as I already had a character with that name for the Bluebeard story. I still wanted her to have some actual connection to the og Rapunzel fairytale, and a way to know about the Sundrop flower, and while I know we already had Cass as Gothel's kid, per my DisneyVerse she did have more then one over those many many years 😅😬
We already had a benevolent version of another Gothel daughter with my rewrite of Ginny, so I decided this time we'd get to focus on a malevolent one, so our villain for this story is Azalea.
Tumblr media
(I based her looks on one of the tree nymphs from Gothel's backstory in OUAT, old Gothel/witch concept art and her name was inspired by Alice from OUAT being Gothel's daughter, just with a sharper sounding plant name x)
Also here's some original concept art of the Rapunzel Unbraided story treatment!
Tumblr media
(Some of these might technically be from the Rapunzel treatment but I feel they fit the story anyway)
Tumblr media
Also some video! A rough animatic overview of the whole story
youtube
And a more polished small clip of Claire and Squirrel Rapunzel
youtube
But yeah that's my rough little idea of how I'd incorporate the Rapunzel Unbraided concept/characters into the Disneyverse :)

Very fluffy moment: an AU where Jily lives- ofc-and Hinny tells them about the new baby (can be any of the pregnancies)
LOVE SOME GOOD JILY LIVES FLUFF
"Why are you so nervous?" Ginny asked him, squeezing his hand as they waited by the front door. "You know they'll be happy for us, right?"
Harry shook his head. "That's the problem. They'll be too happy. Remember when we told them we were engaged?"
"Well, at least we're prepared for the dramatics," she assured him.
Just then, the door swung open, James smiling brightly at his son and daughter-in-law. "There's the most beautiful couple in the world," he proclaimed, bringing them both into a hug.
"Never prepared enough," Harry whispered to Ginny out of the corner of his mouth. She giggled.
"What was that?" James asked as they broke apart.
"Nothing," Harry waved off. "Hi, Dad."
They stepped inside the Godric's Hollow cottage to see the table fully set, Lily taking out one last thing from the oven.
"Mum," Harry sighed, walking over to her. "I told you I'd help with dinner tonight."
"Don't worry about it, love," she said, reaching up and kissing his cheek. "I wanted to give you a break, I know you've been working hard."
"But I like cooking with you," he told her earnestly.
"That's sweet, Harry," Ginny interjected, patting his arm. "But let your mum mother you for the night, yeah?"
"Listen to your wife, kid," James said as he put on oven mitts and picked up a tray to bring to the table. "How are you doing, Gin?"
"Great," she said, smiling. Then, "Pregnant."
The tray slipped from James's hands and shattered to the floor. All three of them were staring at her, Harry somewhat exasperated. Being the only one not in shock, she took out her wand and cleared up the mess, the tray all put together back on the table.
Harry shook out of his stupor. "I thought we were going to tell them after dinner," he murmured.
"Sorry," she responded, though he wasn't sure she meant it. She continued to smile. "You know me. Impulsive. Felt like the right moment."
They looked back at James and Lily, both still looking stunned.
"Surprise?" Harry tried.
"I know you're both pretty young to be grandparents," Ginny said. "But if it's any consolation, you're going to be like, the coolest grandparents anybody has ever had."
The word "grandparents" seemed to do it. James started to laugh and Lily burst into tears.
"Bloody hell," James exclaimed, wrapping Ginny up in a bear hug. "You're having a baby!"
"Mum, it's okay," Harry tried, rushing over to Lily.
Lily grabbed his face and smiled brightly. "You're going to be the most amazing, loving, caring, magnificent, brilliant father-"
James broke away from Ginny and looked towards his wife. "Hey, hey, hey, what am I, then?"
"The most amazing, loving, caring, magnificent, brilliant grandfather?" Harry tried.
"Oh god, what do I go by? Grandpa? Grandad? Papa?"
"Absolutely not Papa," Lily intervened, wiping her tears.
"Sorry, right, that's reserved for-"
"Stop!" Harry warned, and all three of them laughed. "Why don't we sit down and eat, yeah?"
They all listened, but as soon as they started piling food on their plates, James started again. "Need name ideas? 'Cause I've got one-"
"Let me guess," said Lily. "Is it James?"
Ginny giggled.
"What?" James asked, feigning innocence. "It's a classic name!"
"We'll see," said Harry, smiling in spite of himself.

Late for a January submission, but I didn’t see February prompts so I used two January prompts to make up for it. 1. Cold and 17. Feet
@hinnymicrofic
Ginny didn’t think much about the way that they slept. Unless he was gone, and then she missed it. Much later, the kids knew if dad was gone, moms bed was free game because she liked being able to hold them in their sleep, but if dad was home their bed was a kid free zone (mostly).
Harry thought about it all the time. He had never been held in his sleep before. Never felt someone love him subconsciously. These moments were deeply intimate for him; his hand up her shirt, her head on his chest, their legs tangled in a mess. He even liked feeling her cold feet on his legs, riding up the legs of his pyjama bottoms. Maybe he thought about it more because he didn’t sleep well, so he ended up holding a sleeping Ginny while she slept. Watching her face and reminding himself that he really gets to keep her forever.
Ginny had read him an article from a muggle magazine once that explained different sleeping positions and what they said about your relationship. Spooning meant protecting. The big spoon subconsciously protects the little spoon in their sleep. Keeping this in mind, it always warms his heart when he wakes up to find himself as the little spoon, his small wife with her leg hiked up around his hips, her head in the middle of his shoulder blades and her arm under his pillow. He’s never felt safer in his life than in those moments.

The HP Epilogue: JKR's trashfire ending to a trash book series
I was reading snippets from the epilogue for the first time and everything about the epilogue is just frustrating. And I want to share things I found intolerable about it to let off steam. These are MY opinions so if you feel differently, I am happy for you. But here is a summary of my gripes.
The names of the Hinny Harry's kids
James Sirius. Albus Severus. Lily Luna. I can empathize with wanting to honour people you love by naming your kids after them...but this is just overkill. Not one of Harry's kids has an original name. Not one! And I said Harry's kids because it seems like Ginny had absolutely no input in the names. If I am being generous, maybe the Luna name was hers, but given the naming pattern of the kids, I am sure that Luna references Lupin and not Luna Lovegood. Sometimes I feel as if Harry has a domineering vibe in Hinny and the kids' names are not doing any favours to combat that. Not surprising as everything about the Hinny romance was dictated by Harry's wants. Who cares about Ginny?
Muggleborne discrimination is bad but pureblood discrimination is A-ok
‘You’re right, sorry,’ said Ron, but unable to help himself, he added, ‘don’t get too friendly with him, though, Rosie. Granddad Weasley would never forgive you if you married a pure-blood.’
I could not believe my eyes when I read this. It's like Ron forgot that HIS family is pureblood! It's the same vibe as a black parent telling their black or mixed kid not to marry another black person! Luna is pureblood! Neville is pureblood! Do the Weasleys have some kind of self-hatred?? Another point to purebloods slowly dying out but who cares? As far as JKR is concerned, the wizards should be aiming to all be mutts with mixed blood :)
BTW the Scorpius/Rose pairing fills me with revulsion. I like Albus and Scorp as friends though! But not so much as lovers.
Marriage is the only way to be truly part of a family
‘Oh, it would be lovely if they got married!’ whispered Lily ecstatically. ‘Teddy would really be part of the family then!’
Got some heavy Hinny vibes from this line of dialogue. Harry did not become a true Weasley until he got with Ginny after all :)
I know Lily is a kid and she means no malice, but I truly felt disgust towards this line. It just bothers me, especially in the context of Hinny and how Ginny functions as a way for Harry to become a Weasley member. Teddy is Harry's godson, he should be like a big brother to Lily. How does becoming a cousin-in-law make him more of a family member compared to being her surrogate big bro??
Do Hogwarts alumni swear an oath of secrecy?
‘And you don’t want to believe everything he tells you about Hogwarts,’ Harry put in.
He had never told any of his children that before, and he saw the wonder in Albus’s face when he said it.
So James Sirius is telling Albus Severus exaggerated tales about Hogwarts similar to what the Weasley twins did to Ron. But how is this possible? Do the parents not talk about Hogwarts to their kids? If my kid was going to my alma mater, I would tell him/her all about the school when I went there. I don't understand why it seems like parents don't talk about Hogwarts. At least Draco's parents seem to talk to him about the school at least.
Muggle abuse is still funny Ha. Ha.
‘As a matter of fact, I did Confund him,’ Ron whispered to Harry, as together they lifted Albus’s trunk and owl on to the train. ‘I only forgot to look in the wing mirror, and let’s face it, I can use a Supersensory Charm for that.’
Remember that Ron is an Auror! A wizarding cop! But nah muggles are still lesser than wizards so even a guy like Ron who's supposed to be a good hero character feels no shame in messing with their autonomy. Ron is literally so disgusting in the epilogue. Never thought I would end HP finding Ron the least tolerable of the trio when Ron is usually my fav of the 3. Not that the bar is very high for the other two.
JKR really does not like Draco
His hair was receding somewhat, which emphasised the pointed chin.
Of course, JKR can't end the series without throwing more shade at Draco. He's rocking the middle-aged man look, only has one kid and has a love interest that we know squat about. And then in CC, Draco's wife dies! Sigh, I really hate Drastoria...
All is not well
There is still house discrimination. Magical creatures likely still have fewer rights. Aurors like Ron and everyday wizards abuse their powers against muggles. Purebloods are dying out. Wizards like Albus act like they did not grow up in a magical world, aka wizards still have low brain cell counts. But sure, Harry's scar is fine so ALL IS WELL!
I can't believe there are people out here calling JKR a good writer! I see the vast potential of the book series and I feel so sad sometimes. I am so happy that HP never existed in my childhood.

Playdates (1/1) (jegulus)
"Vas-y jouer avec tes amis," Regulus said encouragingly.
"We'll be right here," James added, though he wasn't sure this was an addition. He knew the word amis meant friends and he didn't say anything about friends so it's likely safe.
Harry looked back at both of them as Regulus and James sat down in a bench at the edge of the park.
"It's okay," James said with a nod. Regulus smiled along.
When Harry didn't look away from his dads, Regulus pointed and said, "I see Hermione over there."
A smile grew on his fave faster than Harry could turn around and spit her for himself. He then quickly ran over to her to play. She had been drawing something in the sand, but when Harry came over she pulled him into a hug. James and Regulus watched as she showed him what she had been doing.
James found her parents sitting each with books in their laps, watching their daughter and reading from the other side of the park. James waved back when they saw Harry join their daughter and then look around for the Potters.
It wasn't long before Ron joined in the game, though he came barreling across the playground to run right through whatever they had made. Regulus was filled with pride as he watched Harry console Hermione and quickly get Ron to help him fix what little shoes had messed.
Regulus and James chatted quickly with Molly who bustled along as all her kids played on the various jungle gyms and was happy that Ginny was still small enough to just want to swing for as long as someone would push her.
Harry came running over for a drink and asking if Ron and Hermione could sleep over. It wasn't a school night so James and Regulus didn't see why not, but both friend's parents would have to say it was okay. Regulus laughed as they ran off to each other set of parents to say many pleases and squeal and jump in response to yeses.
Regulus never dreamed his life would one day be filled with trips to the park and planning sleepovers and drop offs but he was so happy it did. As he held hands with James as they all walked back to the Potter house, Regulus knew James was just as happy with the situation as he was.

Also how do you think ginny and Harry's marital life was? Did they get married early?Did Ginny sometimes resent her husband's profession? As a couple do you think they fought often?
Thanks so much for always replying to all the asks so wonderfully! You're so amazing!!!
I think Harry and Ginny's marital life was happy, of course! I think their marriage was a singular source of stability and renewing joy throughout their adult lives. (can you imagine if I was like... nah, it was garbage, divorce)
Tumblr media
Without further ado... here's too many words and thoughts on Harry and Ginny's married life and careers, and some fic recs that have helped shape how I think about it dotted throughout. Come for the twee house descriptions, stay for the rant about neoliberal feminism at the end I guess!
On married life and the Potter household:
I love the idea of the Potters presiding over this ramshackle chaos household in big house near the sea, with a great big garden and treehouse for their kids and the cousins and various pets to maraud about all over the place. I actually think quite a lot about the house they'd be in. I love the idea of them building it from scratch, a big house with modern comforts but rustic, cosy, English country features, more horizontal than vertical (kind of farm/barn conversion vibes). In my mind, their house has lots of light, lots of beams and soft wood furnishings, and then a few quirky features and colours that are all Ginny's idea (Luna paints beautiful murals on each of the kids' walls). I imagine their house has lots of big windows with window seats so the adults can sit out and watch the kids play outside. I think the kitchen/dining room would be the heart of the house. Harry's doing the cooking, Ginny's writing at the table, kids are streaming in and out, it's just a real thoroughfare of teenagers and family friends and grandparents streaming through with the wireless on.
On marrying and having kids young:
I do really think Harry and Ginny got married early and had kids young. As I get older I only get more ok with that as a timescale for them. I think the intensity of their wartime experiences, their very involved role as godparents to Teddy (especially thinking maybe it might be nice for Teddy to have younger god-siblings), and their family reference points (both being from families where marrying young is quite normal, and where babies and toddlers are increasingly around a lot) are all factors that lend themselves to these two locking in in their early twenties. The pieces I love most on their marriage/babies etc are all ones that have a lot of humour and spontaneity and walk this gorgeous line between flippancy and total certainty - acesofdiamond's version of their wedding in Arran, Scotland, is canon to me, and also quickfire by flagpoles, on them having a shotgun wedding, is just so so so good and so them.
On Harry's career:
I think Ginny would understand why Harry chose the career he did, but I think it would be a source of tension for them. I'm thinking a lot about this at the minute for some writing (👀), but I think Harry as an adult would have to confront the fact that he intends to keep choosing to get back in the arena and fight Dark magic, this thing he does it to keep the people he loves safe but that also asks so much of the same loved ones who have to watch him do it. I think Ginny would try to push him to see that, but I don't think those would be easy conversations, and I do think it would be one of the things they argue most about on the occasions when they do, properly, fight. On the day to day, things they bicker over include: whose fault it is that the house is a mess (obviously it's both of them, plus the three messy children those two messy kids created); whose fault it is that the Potters are literally always late to everything (Harry blames Ginny, Ginny says the only reason he was ever on time before was because of Hermione, and he chose not to marry the punctual one so he just has to lump it); and Ginny losing her wand around the house/not keeping her wand on her (it takes Harry a long time to say it, but he's always just thinking of James on the sofa the night he died).
On Ginny's career:
I know this is a bit controversial, but I'm honestly happy with the idea of Ginny quitting playing professional Quidditch young. I think she quits after she has James, or maybe between Albus and Lily, so by the time she's about twenty four, twenty five. This is a bit of a soapbox one for me, and maybe one day I'll write about it in some form, but I think there's quite a lot to be said for freeing yourself from being accountable to career decisions and dreams you once had for yourself when you were seventeen, especially career plans that served as escape hatches from traumatic teen years (for the same reason, I like the idea of Ron quitting the Aurors after a few years). I think, as teenagers, we imagine futures for versions of ourselves we haven't met yet. Renegotiating your hopes and aspirations for yourself can be a real sign of growth; holding yourself hostage to who you thought you'd be can make you very miserable.
Relatedly, I do think Ginny in her mid-twenties might have a different relationship to her playing Quidditch than she has a teen. I think lot of her wanting to play professionally is about her having something to prove (I have also totally adopted the headcanon from this fantastic piece on Ginny wanting to be outdoors and in the air as a rejection of the chamber). It feels right to me that Ginny might reconsider her attitude to physical risk and injury by her mid-twenties, particularly if her children are watching her play an extremely dangerous sport week-in week out. I also think she might reconsider how much time she wants to spend away from her family. I wonder if Ginny would also develop a different relationship to the sport outside of a school context, especially the press scrutiny and the big business of sport on the outside. We know that when she quits playing, it's not the end of her professional life, and I think her writing about the sport, and being a voice in the culture of the sport but also in the Wizarding World at large, makes a ton of sense for her. But I think it's good to change jobs because what you want for yourself changes, and I really think it's not a feminist failing to want to spend time with your family and to look for jobs that are interesting and help give your life meaning but that also let you have a family life. It's boardroom girlboss neoliberal nonsense feminism that says wanting to spend time with your friends and family is less of a route to happiness than climbing up some horrendous hyper-individualist career ladder in pursuit of success (especially, in Ginny's case, in professional sport, where careers only ever end on a downturn).
Thank you anon for wanting to hear me bang on about all of this!
Fics mentioned here include:

Some dark Harry/Ginny head-cannons cause they went through a war and its unlikely that they are fully okay
(Tw: Alcoholism, PTSD)
These are all my head-cannons and its ok to not agree with all this :) but please reblog with more head cannons if you do have!
Read under the cut<3
Harry had PTSD and intense flashbacks. So he drowned himself in work as soon as he could. He finds balance once he gets married and slowly starts finding peace when even while not being occupied.
He pushes away everyone during the first dew days after the battle and stays in hogwarts. Later on, he comes to the burrow after all the services are done. He only starts to eat properly once he gets there.
Harry goes to therapy when he starts working (With Kingsleys deal of letting him and Ron work, only if they received some help) Although he was hesitant at first, he truly gains clarity from it. Later on when Ginny gets out of school, he stops seeing the mind healer, realizing that talking to Ginny is enough for him to get comfort.
Harry dwells a lot on the fact that Tom was a part of him for his whole life. And he tries to hide that from Ginny; in fear that she would be terrified of him. But Ginny helps him to get out of his identity crisis and to assure him.
He attends most of the trials for death eaters snd stands as witness. Although it made him drained it was a solace to see them being sentenced to their due punishments.
Harry frames all the pictures of his parents and hangs them in his home. His kids knows them and loves them. He takes them to their graveyard every halloween and whenever they requests.
Harry’s overprotectiveness never ends. He would live everyday scared to death that he might lose someone again. He conjured many charms around his house, and had his wedding band made to sense him if any of his family was in danger.
Ginny makes sure she doesn’t break down until her mom is okay. She continues her numb behavior for so long that she starts drinking. It continues once she starts Hogwarts as well; making Hermione very concerned on the fact that she’s half drunk all the time.
She does not do well academically in the last year as she herself expected, but manages to win all her quidditch matches as the quidditch captain; achieving her goal of being recruited for the try outs of harpies.
There was a short time after hogwarts where she was never sober. And Harry, Hermione, Ron and Bill had to have an intervention with her. This made her utter some very hard truths given her state.
She almost tried to convince Harry that he should find a better girlfriend who can make him happy rather than the mess she was at that time which Harry rejected all through.
Harry was very concerned but understood her struggle. They both helped each other at their worst times. For Harry it was immediately after the war and with Ginny it took some time reach the peak of her breakdown.
At the end Ginny slowly started to control it and went to therapy; just like most of her family did which she refused before. She truly gained some sense to her grief, as well the effects of the relationship he had with the diary and Tom.
Harry and Ginny were happy. Truly they were. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t go through hard times. One thing that drived them to get better was having each other and having a future to build together.

For the prompts, what about a trip to the muggle grocery store? 🩵
send me a prompt
This was chaotic and I loved it!
"Don't touch that," Ginny snapped.
Al reluctantly put down the squishy kiwi. Why Harry had thought taking their three heathens to a Muggle supermarket was a good idea was beyond her.
"But, Mum, I wanted to try one," Al said, looking at up at her with Harry's eyes. They were always her weakness.
Just as she was about to open her mouth and answer, James and Lily came running toward her.
"Mum!" James screamed. "She kicked me!"
"He started it!" Lily yelled.
Ginny spun around to face them. "I thought I told you to stop kicking, Lily?"
The little redhead crossed her arms and scrunched up her nose in a gesture that reminded Ginny of both herself and Harry at once.
"He started it," she said deadly quiet.
Oh, Merlin, this was going to be a long trip.
"Where's your father?" she asked. "Is he hiding in the bathroom?"
"I don't know," James said. "Hey, Al, you have to share!"
Ginny's eyes landed on Al as he bit into the kiwi she had told him to put up and then promptly spit it out. Why had she ever thought these kids were behaved enough to go out in public?
"I found the pork chops."
Ginny turned to glare at Harry. He noticed the eaten fruit then and the glob Albus had spit on the floor. After glancing at her face, Harry quickly whipped out his wand and vanished the fruit from Al's hand and the mess from the floor.
"Dad!" James said. "You're not supposed to do magic around Muggles."
"No one's here," Harry said, glancing down the aisle. "And I'm Head Auror."
"So you get to break the rules?" Al said seriously.
Harry ruffled his messy hair. "Some rules."
A crash and a wail sounded behind them, and Ginny and Harry turned to see that Lily had tugged down a stand of vegetables.
"How much do you think that's going to cost?" Harry asked.
"A lot of fucking money," Ginny said.

June Prompt #30: School
@hinnymicrofic
Inspired by blvnk-art.
“Hey Lily-Love, how was school today?” Harry asked his daughter. He had just picked her up from the muggle primary school he and Ginny send the kids to. “Why is school so boring?” Lily whined. “School isn’t boring….. You want to go to Hogwarts, right? That’s a school.” Harry replied. “But at Hogwarts, I can make things fly, and today I learnt about Gravity.” She declared. “You have a good point.” Harry admitted, chuckling. “C’mon, let’s go home.” He said. “Ok.” Lily reluctantly took his hand and followed him to the apparition point.
They apparated home and were greeted by the sight of James covered by flour all over his body. Giggling, Lily asked, “What happened?” “We were trying to make cookies, but someone spilled all the flour.” Ginny answered, glaring at James. With a sigh, Harry pulled out his wand and vanished all the flour over James. “Scourgify.”  “Thanks, Dad!” “How you’re so messy is beyond me.” Shaking his head, Harry goes into the sitting room, while Lily stays to help her mother clean up the rest of the mess.
“Out, James!” Ginny condescends him. “Sorry, mum…” He mumbles, head bowed and eyes not meeting his mother’s. Ginny’s face softens. “It’s alright, Jamie. How about you go play chess with Al? Merlin knows he needs to come out his room sooner or later.” She suggests. Sighing, she decides that cleaning the kitchen by hand will be much more satisfactory than doing it by magic. She hands Lily a cleaning rag and gets to work. “Here, why don’t you clean the counters?” “Ok!” Ginny smiles at her daughter’s cheeriness. While there would be trouble in their house at times, she knew these little moments were special, and she cherished them all the same, even when she was mad.

A terrible, terrible divorce
also on AO3
Harry moped about. He didn’t like the house empty, the kids not there, and Ginny staying over at the Burrow for the time being. He was throwing himself into work, as he should with the upcoming top-secret mission, but he missed them terribly.
The doorbell rang and he stood up. He opened the door to his wife. His jaw tightened as he hadn’t expected her now. It was her turn with the kids.
“Sorry,” she said. “Albus forgot his blankie and you know he can’t sleep without it.” Ginny looked tired. As if she also slept awful sleeping apart.
“Come inside,” he said, opening the door fully. “I’ll go get it.” He ran upstairs and looked around for it. He had not bothered cleaning up their mess of toys. It made it feel like his kids were coming right back.
He grabbed the blanket off the bed of their youngest and carried it down. He handed it to Ginny. She stuffed it into her bag and turned, walking towards the door.
“Gin. Hold up,” he said, tired of restraining himself around her. He missed her terribly.
She turned back around, her eyes curious. She waited for him to speak.
“Do you need to be in a hurry?” he tried.
She chewed her lip for a moment as she turned back around towards him. She didn’t reply. He walked up to her and touched her cheek.
“Harry...” she said, not giving in to him.
“Please,” he tried.
He kissed her softly and she returned it, leaning into him. This encouraged him, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer. She sighed against him, hesitated for a moment and then kissed him breathless with much vigour. It took them quite some time to break apart.
Ginny leaned her forehead against his shoulder. “Harry, this is bad,” she complained.
“I miss you,” he told her. “I need you.”
She lifted her head, her eyes meeting his. “We need to sell this ‘going through a divorce’ thing to everyone if we want to find out who the mole in your department is.”
He sighed deeply. “I know but I am figuring out I don’t really... function without you.”
She chuckled and pulled his hips toward her. They were barely apart. “That’s not news to me.”
He mumbled a retort and leaned into her, kissing her neck softly as his hands attempted to find any piece of exposed skin. It felt so forbidden, he felt like a teenager again. It spurred him on too.
“If I don’t return soon, mum will be here, ready to hex you,” she argued but yet made no attempt to untangle herself from him. “She still thinks you cheated on me; she won’t hesitate to come get me from your evil hands.” She said the last part with a chuckle as his hands crept up her back under her shirt.
“Then we better make it quick,” Harry argued, quirking an eyebrow.
She arched into him with a sigh. “Dammit, Potter. How are you still the only one who can get me this hot and bothered.” She set her bag down, knowing she lost the battle.
He turned around and grinned at her as he dragged her up the stairs. “Come on, Potter. I’ll show you exactly why. Quickly. We don’t want your mother to find us after all.”
“You should undress fast then.” She grinned as he took out his wand and waved it, vanishing all his clothes. She looked at him smugly. “That works for me.”

I was thinking about the dragon pox fic idea… and what if it was Harry as a kid who had dragon pox! Sirius and Marlene can’t visit him because they have one daughter and she’s pregnant with another. Marlene’s bp is high because her baby is in the hospital and he loves being cuddled when he’s sick and she can’t do that for him. Sirius is losing his shit because he can only see his boy through a window and can’t tell him he’ll be ok. He’s going through all of Fleamont’s journals to see if there was any cure for it or just anything to help his boy. His daughter is a crying mess and wants to be with her brother, and when Ginny comes over to cheer her up she tells Sirius daughter there is no way Harry Potter is dying on her because he promised to marry her and give her a cake 3x the size of her. So they try to make a plan to kidnap Harry and break him out of the hospital (Ron gets sucked into this plan too) not understanding the consequences. Harry starts talking in his sleep when his fever is really high and Sirius asks the healer what he’s saying and they tell him he was talking to his dead parents, and all the blood drains from Sirius face. We got angst. We got comedy. We got our big brother cabbage with his cabbage patch sister(s). Most important we got baby Hinny.
First off, HARRY’S CABBAGE PATCH SISTERS?!?! That is the most adorable thing I have ever heard in my life. I will forever refer to them in this manner.
Second of off, as a parent, there is no way that Sirius would quarantine from that little boy. He would totally see him and quarantine himself off from the girls. Is that even possible?? Would the hospital allow that? And that’s be gut wrenching to Marlene because she’s pregnant and has another kid. She can’t risk both of them getting sick and having no one there for the cabbage patch!
Third of all, of course little sweet Harry could promise to marry little Ginny because in every universe they know each other as kids they are super close and adorable!
Fourth, could you imagine Ginny and the little one (I totally almost wrote her name and spoiled it) are packing up their supply rucksacks. Maia would totally bring Harry’s favorite stuffy and Ginny would grab some of her mum’s treacle tart. Ron thinks they’re bonkers and has to add a book about Quidditch.
Fifth of all, AHHHHH HARRY TALKING TO HIS DEAD FAMILY.

You are just minding your own business reading the book that you're into and are into your own world when suddenly your book was snatched into your hands.
" Hey! I was reading that!" You screamed at the person who snatched your book, and then you saw Ginny holding it. You crossed your arms because you know Ginny.
" Oh don't mind that, Y/N. Just come along with us, will you?" But she didn't wait for your reply and just dragged you outside the common room. Ginny dragged you out and was running too.
" Where are you even taking me, Ginny?" You ask her while being dragged by the redhead.
But she didn't answer you shoved you into a room - a broom closet.
" Hey! Let me out Ginny I swe - Neville? What are you doing here?" You cut yourself off when you saw the cute Gryffindor boy that you have a crush on. He gave you a smile, a sweet smile to be fact.
And that made you very shy now, your crush is in front of you. And the both of you are stuck inside a broom closet.
" You two obviously like each other, so talk! And before you say any excuses, YOU CAN'T GET OUT!" Ginny shouted and heard the door being locked.
You hit your head on the door. And gave Neville a nervous smile. Because he just heard your friend saying that you like him.
" Ah Ginny's kidding, you know how she is." You told him and laugh but you are blushing, and also Neville can see your blush because some light are let in inside the broom closet.
But Neville gave you a smile, a nervous smile too. " Um, a- actually I like you too. And I was also dragged by Seamus and Dean because they thought you like me too." When you heard that, you then became speechless.
" Re - really? You li - like me too?" You sweetly say and that also made your heart melt when you heard that. He also likes you back, the guy that you have been crushing on likes you back!
You don't know what it came out of you but you put your arms around his neck and smiled. He also smiled with such made your heart melt.
" Yeah, I do Y/N. I mean I think it is not like anymore, I think Io - love you." He stutters and put his arms around your waist. Well, now you're a blushing mess.
With a wide smile, you kissed him and he kissed back. When you let go, both of you have big smiles on your faces.
" Oh my sweet boy, I love you too." You told him and again you both kissed.

1.12 A Chance Meeting
[Pineshore Assisted Living, 4 years ago]
Tumblr media
[Esther enters her shared room with David and Solomon in tow. Ginny is unpacking]
Esther: And this is my new roommate, Virginia. Virginia, this is my son David and his husband Solomon.
Tumblr media
[Ginny continues unpacking, turned away from the guests]
Ginny: Hmph. It's Ginny. No one calls me Virginia. Solomon: Ok, well, it's nice to meet you Ginny. Ginny: Hmph.
Tumblr media
Esther: She's a little upset about moving here. Ginny: My daughters don't think I can take care of myself, just because I had a little fall. Can you believe that?
Tumblr media
David: You look perfectly capable to me! But I'm sure your daughters have your best interests at heart. Ginny: You don't know my daughters. Leslie treats me like an infant and Bonnie...well, she's a whole mess herself. Has no business telling me what to do with my life when hers is a disaster.
Tumblr media
Solomon: Huh, I used to know a Bonnie. What's her last name? Ginny: Messer now, after marrying her no-good husband. Before that she was Bonnie Ayers.
Tumblr media
Solomon: That's her! [addressing David] She was the woman I was dating when I came to terms with being gay. David: Oh, the homophobe? Esther: David!
Tumblr media
Ginny: Eh, he's probably right. I never heard her mention a Solomon. When did you date? Solomon: Let's see, it was right before I met David, so it must've been about 15 years ago. She might’ve referred to me as Sunny, that was the nickname she gave me.
Tumblr media
Ginny: Sunny? Oh my God. It's you. I can't believe this. You didn't know, did you? I knew she wasn't telling me the truth! David: What are you talking about? He didn't know what?
Tumblr media
Ginny: About the babies! Solomon: Babies??? Ginny: Bonnie had twins 14 years ago. All she told us about their dad is that she called him Sunny. Esther: You really think Sol is the father?
Tumblr media
Ginny: I do see a resemblance. Here, let me show you a picture.
[Ginny shows everyone a picture on her phone] The boy is named Johnny and the girl is Chantal. Esther: Look at the freckles! David: And that's a Solomon expression if I've ever seen one. I think she might be right. These could be your kids!
Tumblr media
Ginny: Oh, I hope so! They’ve been looking for so long. Something’s been off in that house ever since her husband came along and it’s only getting worse. Solomon: This is all so overwhelming! I'll contact my lawyer right now and see about setting up a DNA test.
Tumblr media
[Ginny warmly embraces Solomon, knowing that this moment will change the course of her grandkids’ lives forever]
Ginny: It's nice to meet you, Solomon.
