Carter shot the puck once more, the goalie blocking it right as the buzzer rang out through the arena.
Carter let out a long breath having felt this way before.
The canucks have just lost in game seven of the second round in the playoffs.
Carter shook her head slowly titling her head back and blinking back the tears that desperately wanted to escape but she couldn’t let them on the ice especially because of the cameras.
Carter looked around the ice seeing the Oilers shouting happily, jumping around the ice on each other with wide smiles etched on their faces.
Carter stomach was in knots as being that close and coming back with two goals and still falling just short, it was devastating.
She looked over seeing Quinn looking spaced out and she could see the quivering of his shoulders knowing he was trying to his emotions for everyone around them.
Carter legs felt shaky as she skated over to her brother and gently tugged on his arm and felt her heart break even more seeing his eyes look heartbroken.
She pulled him into a tight hug and Quinn tightly gripped his little sister as if he was going to disappear without her.
Quinn let a few tears slip against his baby sister’s shoulder knowing no one would know about them except her.
They reluctantly pulled away from each other and Carter quickly wiped off his tears from his face.
Carter stood behind Quinn as they went through the line.
Leon pulled her into a gentle hug, “Good job little one.” Leon softly whispered, Leon and Connor both became close with Carter once she got drafted.
“Thank you Leo, enjoy this.” Carter mumbled and pulled back and was then pulled into another hug by Connor.
“It wasn’t your fault.” Connor reassured her whispering quietly, he knows exactly how she is feeling and wants to make sure she knows it is not her fault.
“Thank you.” Carter squeezed him once more before continuing down the line and finally being allowed to get off the ice.
The locker room was tense and filled of sadness, Carter frowned seeing so many of her teammates in tears.
Carter just wanted to be held by Connor.
Carter was picked for media and headed over to do that, she kept her answers short and blunt not having enough energy to be polite.
She finished media and headed straight to the showers and put the water on the hottest temperature and she did not know how ping she just stood under the water letting her tears finally fall silently.
Carter shook her head turning the shower off and got out slipping back on game day suit and she did not want to do her hair and just scrunched out some water and did not touch it.
Carter saw Quinn dressed and walking around the room talking with some of their team before he finished and walked over to her and they silently walked out of the locker room together.
Carter hopped into the drivers seat of her car as Quinn got into the passenger seat, they had the music off and just drove in pure silence to home.
Carter pulled into their parking garage and they hopped out of the car and walked up to their apartments.
They stopped in front of Quinn’s apartment and he pulled her into a gentle hug kissing the side of her head.
Carter squeezed him once before they pulled apart and sent him a small smile before turning around and walking to her apartment and heading inside.
Cooper came trotting over and quickly rubbing himself all over Carter, “Hey Coops.” Carter softly mumbled petting his head softly.
She walked through her house and quickly got out of her suit and quickly changed into a pair of sweatpants and t-shirt that is Connor’s and turned on her heated blanket and quickly hurrying under her blankets in her bed.
Copper jumped onto her bed and laid down next to her and on Connor’s side.
Carter ignored all the notifications on her phone and pulled up face time and clicked on Connor’s contact.
Connor quickly answered and Carter could see the morning light as he laid in his bed looking like he woke up recently.
“Hi Roo.” Connor softly cooed hating his girlfriend looks so upset, he was also mindful of his roommate next to him who was still sleeping because Connor got up early to watch Carter’s game.
“Hi Connie.” Carter softly mumbled back and felt herself relax hearing his voice and seeing him.
Carter knew there was only one thing that would make the loss in the playoffs feel better, Connor.

hgh wanna overhaul a main element of starfall again
#vague spoilers ig but its about how asha gets stranded again#i swear ive had a lot of iterations of it bc its like. convoluted ill admit that#the result is usually the same- she gets separated from atlas and castor and quinn- but the how and what happens#is all over the place#at the beginning of this iteration her parents were forced out of the pmd dimension by [redacted] and asha hatched slightly after#so was born into the situation. then all got picked off til only she was left#then the order of who got picked off kept changing. it was either atlas or castor as the final one#and currently its atlas#but then i changed it so that they all get stranded when asha is a bit older so she knows who [redacted] is personally#and gets more time with quinn before she disappears but everyone still got picked off#and now i kinda wanna remove everyone being picked off and replace it with JUST asha getting stranded#as in [redacted] happens and asha loses all 3 at once. really going into just how much it shook her world#and adds to the mystery of where everyone went maybe?#but also everyone being picked off adds some paranoia..... shes paranoid thats an aspect of her character#and this isnt even getting into the mess that is skylar rn. skylar's backstory is a mess#and how they get there worries me bc i think itll be confusing#sometimes im tempted to just. separate asha and skylar and have skylar come in later#but bc of spoilers idk how itd work#and i love them as a trio#but everything just... feels sooo uneven rn and i kinda hate it#its why u havent heard much abt starfall itself tbh i dont like where its at rn#i might honestly have to just tear out a lot of what i have but idk where to start in making it feel good#echoed voice

Oh my goodness! I thought you had disappeared when I saw all your Quinn works gone! You’re absolutely my favorite Quinn writer!
So i was hoping i can request, fem!reader x Quinn Fabray exchanging soft smiles across the room from friends to lovers please! Thank you! Best wishes!
A/N: Awww thanks! Yeah, I got shadowbanned but now I'm back! So more Quinn fics :3
Quinn x Fem!Reader
The choir room was full of noise and the New Directions were working on their setlist for Nationals. Everyone was in little groups, some working on costumes, others working on harmonies. You were with Mike and Brittany, finalizing choreography before you all start teaching the others. You look up to survey the others and mentally visualize where to place them. Your gaze stops when a pair of hazel eyes catch your attention.
Quinn had her eyes on you from her place with the other girls. The soft smile on her lips grew slightly when your eyes met. Suddenly, no one else was in the room. You could feel your heart swell from the feeling of Quinn having her eyes only on you. From the beginning, you were infatuated with her and over time, it grew into a deep adoration before it became full-on love.
And gods, it scared you.
There was never such an intense feeling within you. In the beginning, if you thought too much into it you felt as though you were going to have a panic attack. Now, while there's a squeeze in your heart whenever you were near Quinn, it was bearable. It was enough to be near her. You never expected for her to share the same feelings, but you still stuck by her through thick and thin.
In a flash, the blonde was drawn back into her group by Rachel and the spell on you was broken. With a quick shake of your head, you went back into work mode and continued your choreography work. The rest of the time was spent passing glances amongst productivity.
-----+++++-----
You were the last one to leave the choir room. Last minute tweaks to some dance moves that didn't quite feel right to you. Once done, you notice that Quinn had waited for you.
"Quinn? What're you still doing here?" You pick up your backpack and trot over to her by the door. "Figured you'd wanna get outta here and destress from Rachel's shenanigans."
The blonde let out a soft chuckle at the words. "I do. But mom's out for the night and I don't feel like being alone. Keep me company?"
"Of course. I'll text my parents on the way." As you pull your phone out, you spin and dip into a sweeping bow. "Lead the way."
"You're such a dork." Quinn shakes her head fondly as she walks past, ruffling your hair and making you squawk in surprise. With a laugh, the blond runs off, forcing you to chase her.
While she manages to dodge your first few attempts to grab her, Quinn ends up fully in your arms. Her feet are off the ground and she has to cling onto your shoulders to maintain her balance. Despite being shorter than her, you were always a bit stronger. There were more than one attempt to recruit you into the Cheerios.
"Y/N! Put me down!" She manages to laugh out.
"Nope." You continue to walk down the hall with her in tow. "Can't have you running away from me. I'm keeping you right here."
You feel Quinn shift on your arms. To avoid dropping her, you stop and adjust your hold to look up at her. Hazel eyes stare down at you with an immense amount of adoration. Suddenly, you feel her hands on your cheeks as they heat up.
"There's nowhere else I'd rather be."
Those words echo in your mind as you let out a soft gasp. Your hold on her slackens enough for Quinn to slowly slide back to her feet. As a result, she's now a mere breath away from your face. You can see her eyes searching yours, looking for some sort of answer. She finds it when your eyes flick down to her lips.
You're not sure whether Quinn pulled you in or you surged forward. All you know is that Quinn's lips are on yours and it feels like you've just reached Nirvana. Your bodies are pulled impossibly closer and minutes and hours seem to pass simultaneously. Your hands don't roam. They seem to just want to cling onto Quinn and never let go. When you both come up for air, there's a moment of simmering tension.
"So... Your place?" You manage to breathe out. Quinn brushes her nose to yours.
"Make sure you tell your parents you're staying over."

could i request for the dbd killers pig, huntress, death slinger and whoever else you see fit with the idea of reader suddenly disappearing in a trial? like one minute they’re fixing gens and running round the map then the next minute they somehow end up back at the campfire or something and the killers had no idea? mistakenly thinking the entity took them or something. thank you !!!
Woo! This one was really fun to do, I absolutely LOVE this idea, thank you for requesting!
The Pig (Amanda Young):
Something was wrong...you were here just a minute ago…
She saw it with her own eyes
She was stalking behind you, ready to grab and hook you but…
A dark mist encircled you and then you were just...gone
A feral yell made its way up her throat and she began stabbing into the air
Were you...gone forever?
Maybe the entity didn’t approve of her and your relationship...and took you away
She screamed into the sky, and the three remaining survivors feared for their wellbeing
The rest of the trial was...brutal
She may have mercy at some points...but not with you gone
She resigned herself into thinking you were gone for good, and took her sweet time torturing the other survivors
If you were gone...there would be no holding back
She injures the others, letting them get just far away to think they’re safe before she jumps out of the shadows and takes them
She put their torture devices on quickly, and soon all of the survivors were running on borrowed time
She began hooking the others as soon as she could, just wanting this nightmare to be over
If she would be stuck in this loop eternally...she didn’t want to do it without you
Upon returning to the campsite and seeing you sitting there talking to your other survivor friends...she began crying under her mask
You ran up to her, knowing how frightened she must be
“Hey...it’s okay Amanda, I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Those words and your warm embrace were enough to soothe her aching heart
The Huntress (Anna):
She was right behind you and you knew it
She had been chasing you for what felt like forever, and you were wearing out
You turned the corner quickly and hid in a locker, hoping to throw her off your trail
But she could see the red scratches that indicated you had entered the locker
“Oh my sweet little rabbit, you didn’t think that would work, did you?”
She swung the doors of the locker open to find...nothing
She was certain you were there...there’s no way you could have left the locker without hearing or even seeing it
The rest of the trial she spent looking for you
Forget the rules, where were you?
She didn’t even care about the other survivors, you were her main priority
After a while, she pinned a survivor down
It wasn’t her fault...he got in the way
“Where is y/n”
He looked confused “what do you mean? We haven’t seen them for a while...we figured you already mori’d them…”
So not even the other survivors knew where you had went…
She sighed and let him get up, continuing her search for you
By now, all of the generators had been repaired and the countdown had begun
She didn’t care
Where had you gone…? The entity wouldn’t have taken you in the middle of a trial...right?
As soon as she was back to the killer’s campsite she ran for the survivor’s campsite hoping with all of her being that you were there
You were there
She rushed over to you and picked you up into an embrace
“Don’t you ever leave me like that again, understand?” Her words were meant to sound firm but it came across as...frail
She was so terrified of losing you it hurt
“I’m sorry I worried you...I wish I knew what happened myself but...all I know is one minute I was in the locker and the next I was back at the camp.”
She refused to let go of you, and pressed her lips softly to your forehead
“I need you...that...that scared me so much” she spoke quietly, not wanting the other survivors to think she was weak
“I need you too...we’re together forever. No matter what stunts the entity pulls.”
Death Slinger (Caleb Quinn):
When he found out the entity took you...he was livid
All of the survivors remaining were absolutely horrified
He seemed...more vicious than usual
And that’s saying something
He aimed to make quick work of the survivors, not wasting any time hooking each and every one of them
There was...a dangerous look in his eyes that made the remaining survivors terrified to the core
He didn’t see it happen, but he assumed. One minute you were there, the next you weren’t. He even tried asking the survivors he hooked where you were but...they had no idea either
He reeled the last survivor in, and made quick work of placing him on the hook
You better be at the campsite...if you weren’t...he’d attack anyone and everyone who even looked at him
He couldn’t help it...he was beyond pissed
He didn’t want to admit it...but if you were really gone for good...there’d be no point in continuing the entity’s game
He would play the game...but he would lose all will to continue if you were gone for too long
So when he had finished with the trial, he immediately sprinted to the edge of the survivors camp
To say he was relieved when he saw you would be an understatement
You looked up to him with the eyes he so deeply loved and ran up to him
He pulled you into a hug immediately
He wasn’t one to show physical affection where the others could see...but this was an exception
“Leave me like that again and I’ll be sure to kill you in the most painful way possible.”
How comforting
At least you know he cares
The Shape (Michael Myers):
You were his primary target
Often, you were
In his mind...he was sparing you from continuing the game the entity had set up
He was saving you
He made sure it was as painless as possible...unless he was mad
Either about how the game had gone so far, or something else
But this time...when he was about to pull you from the generator, a dark mist enveloped your form and you were simply...gone
He stood still a moment, processing what he had just witnessed before his eyes narrowed and he kicked the generator with all the strength he had
The rest of the trial was...absolutely brutal
He made things as painful as he possibly could
It made him feel...a little better
Not enough though
If he could scream out, he would have
Instead, he settled on making the survivors remainder of the trial complete and utter hell
By the time he had hooked the last survivor they had less than half of the generators complete
He wasn’t wasting any time, that was for sure
When he appeared back at the campsite he stalked off into the dark between the two camps
You were there waiting for him…
“Michael! I was so worried, are you okay?” You placed your hands on the sides of his mask, something you did when you were trying to comfort him
It worked, and his demeanor changed
A small noise left his throat, and to you it sounded almost like...a whine
“I’m so sorry I scared you...but I’m here now and that's what matters!”
He placed his hands on your cheeks, mirroring your actions
You smiled up at him, and leaned up to press a kiss to his mask
“I’m here now...you don’t have to worry about me leaving anytime soon...okay?”
He nodded and pulled you closer into a warm hug
“I won’t leave you...I promise.”

Sipping on your coffee, you ran your hand over your face as you try to finish off the paperwork from the last deployment. You tried to get this done in your home office but it was no good when your house was used as base when the boys were home. Or as Metal kept putting it “the home of Bravo” but it did make your life easier meaning you didn’t have to worry about finding a sitter at short notice as you had at least one of the boys crashing at yours for whatever reason.
And at the moment it was a godsend, especially as you were looking after your Brother’s triplets whilst he was going through the divorce. But having four kids under the age of 7 in the house was chaos, but you lived around big kids all the time so you could just about cope.
Tumblr media
“Guys, someone has to take the boss some coffee,” Clay said, as he placed the plate of toast in the middle of the kitchen table. “And to swipe the walkies.”
Everyone fell silent. That silent you could hear a pin drop.
“Oh hell no,” Sonny said, breaking the silence. “You know how she gets when she’s doing the reports. And it was your idea Blondielocks, so you should do it.”
“No way,” Clay exclaimed, “I value my life thank you. “
“Guys let’s settle this like adults,” Metal said, with a serious look on his face. “Rock, paper, scissors. We go around the group and do it as a knock out style thing and whoever is left standing has to take the boss some coffee and swipe the walkies.”
So that's how it was decided that Sonny was the one to go into the lion's den, armed with coffee and breakfast to hopefully make things go smoothly.
“Quinn, I see you.” You said not looking away from your screen.
“How the fuck?” He muttered, “I swear you have eyes in the back of your head.”
“You have to when you look after children,” you laughed, “now I’m busy so what do you want?”
“We know you left without breakfast so I thought I’d bring you some,” he shrugged, placing the food and coffee on the table.
“I don’t buy it,” you said, raising your brow at him. “You are up to something.”
“Nope, just bringing the boss coffee.” He grinned, he had already swiped the walkies and needed to get out of here. “You have a good day, and don’t worry about anything, we have it all under control.”
“That’s what makes me worry Quinn,” you glared. “Just don’t burn my house down and don’t lose a child. That’s all I ask.”
“Hard copy, boss.” He nodded before leaving the room.
Tumblr media
“Mission success boys,” Sonny shouted walking back into the house, “Oh and final words from the boss were don't set the house on fire and don’t lose a child but she had no idea I swiped the walkies.”
“Well then, time to gear up boys,” Jase said, slapping his legs as he stood up. “Kids have requested we wear our camo bottoms so hurry up we head out at 0900.”
Twenty minutes had passed and everyone was gathered in the living room.
“Right, let's just run through this one more time,” Clay said looking at the list on his phone.
“First aid kit”
“Check”
“Snacks”
“Check”
“Drinks”
“Check”
“Sun cream”
“Check”
“Kids dressed”
“Check”
“All walkies on the same station”
“Check”
“Well boys I think we are ready,” Trent nodded, “So Brock has Cerb and Pepper, I’ve got the bag, so the rest of you get to keep an eye on the kids.”
Your daughter, Riley instantly clung onto Clay like a koala bear, your nephew Joey gravitated to Metal, Sonny scooped up your niece, Amber and Ray took your other Niece, Lola.
“Let’s hit the park,” Jase nodded, leading everyone out the house.
“What could go wrong,” Sonny laughed. “It’s not like we are gonna lose any of them. There’s four of them and seven of us.”
“Don’t say that, you idiot,” Metal said, hitting Sonny around the back of the head. “Don't jinx things, now If things go south it’s your fault.”
Tumblr media
“Anyone got have eyes on HVT one?” Jase asked down the walkie, as he scanned the park.
“HVT one is south moving toward the tyre swing,” Metal replied, “I’ve lost eyes on HVT two.”
“I’ve got eyes on HVT two, she is in need of refilling. Lure her back to base Three,” Clay said, as he squinted from the sun.
“Copy six,” Sonny called, as he calmly headed for Amber, who thought this was the best game in the world as her Uncle Sonny chased her. “HVT two inbound,”
“My eyes are peeled,” Jase laughed, as he spotted Amber running towards him.
“For the love of god don’t forget the suncream.” Ray responded.
“Copy that,” Jase said, routing around the bag for supplies. He literally only took his eyes off her for two seconds but by the time he looked up she was gone. “All call signs I have lost eyes on HVT two. I repeat I have lost eyes on HVT two.”
“I don’t have HVT three or four,” Brock sighed “They just vanished.”
“Is HVT one still at the tyre swing?” Ray asked.
“Fuck, she’s gone to.” Metal cursed.
“Guys we fucked up, boss is gonna kill us if we don’t come home with a full head count.” Ray breathed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Three you know this is your fault,” Metal growled.
“How is it my fault?” Sonny snapped. “You're the one meant to be watching HVT One.”
“You jinxed things, idiot,” Metal huffed, “Told you this would happen.”
“Guys, stop fighting,” Jase sighed, “Look just everyone reconvene at base and we put a plan together, they can’t have gone far.”
Tumblr media
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing, you knew Sonny was up to something when he came in this morning but the big idiot forgot to pick up all the walkies meaning you could hear everything.
Pinching the bridge of your nose, you messed with the station trying to get a clearer sound. You wanted to see how this would play out, they all sounded pretty panicked but they should be. One of the rules was they could do whatever, go wherever but just don’t lose anyone.
“You okay Y/L/N?” Eric asked coming into the briefing room with some fresh coffee.
“Define okay when the boys are looking after the tribe today, Sonny managed to swipe the walkies and now somehow they have managed to lose all four kids at the park,” you sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose.
“Well at least they had the sense to get the walkies I suppose,” Eric laughed, “you know they will have a full head count by the end of the day, they won’t leave until they do.”
“I know,” you laughed, “but I’m gonna get them back.”
Tumblr media
“How the fuck have we managed to lose four kids,” Clay said running his hand over his face. “I don’t get it,”
“Because children like to fucking run off,” Jase snapped. “Look, we don’t need to go into how it happened, it happened. Let’s just work the problem and get these kids back before we all get brutally killed. Operation find the kids is a go.”
“Riley likes water right?” Trent asked.
“Yeah, she’s a proper water baby, why do you ask?” Clay questioned.
“She might have gone towards the lake.” Trent nodded.
“Right, Clay and Brock head to the lake and try to get Riley. We all know you are her favourite Uncle Clay so she might actually come back to you.” Ray said, making a call. “We divide and conquer boys.”
“Copy,” Brock and Clay nodded, before running off in the direction of the lake.
“What about Joey?” Trent asked.
“The woods definitely,” Jase nodded.
“I’m on it,” Metal nodded before disappearing.
“Okay so that leaves Amber and Lola.” Jase said.
“Fuck I have no idea,” Ray sighed. “They are both so quiet.”
“We are just gonna have to split up.” Sonny said, “we will find them.”
Two hours had passed and everyone apart from Brock and Clay were back at base. Three out of the four kids had been located and now sitting on the grass with Metal eatting some cookies.
“I’m gonna need a medic,” Clay said, his voice full of panic and cry’s could be heard in the background.
“How far out are you?” Jase replied.
“About 5 mikes,” Brock replied.
Clay looked down at Riley in his arms, she was screaming and the tears kept coming.
“Hey Riley-roo, it’s okay, Uncle Clay has got you. You are gonna be okay.” Clay cooed trying to calm down his god daughter.
“What’s the sitrep?” Trent asked.
“Not sure if it’s a broken wrist or just a sprain. She fell pretty hard on it whilst running.” Clay sighed down the walkie. “It’s official boys, we are dead meat when the boss gets home.”
Tumblr media
The house was quiet when you got home, far too quiet. The only sound was the hum from the TV but even that was on low volume. Quickly glancing in the kitchen you rolled your eyes at the state of it. It looked like a bomb had gone off. There were plates and mugs everywhere along with McDonald’s discarded wrappers.
Quietly you walked into the living room to see all the kids awake and all the boys fast asleep on the sofas. Riley was tucked under Clay’s arms, Joey was laying across Metal and Brock, Amber was sat in between Jase’s legs and Lola was tucked under Ray’s arms.
“Mummy” Riley grinned as she saw you. “Look what I got,” she giggled, waving her casted wrist in the air.
“What happened baby?” You asked, crouching down to her level.
“I tripped and broke my wrist.” She pouted, “But Uncle Clay took me to the hospital.”
“Well it looks like you all wore your Uncles out today,” you laughed, “but just cover your ears for me kiddos.”
Once they all covered their ears with their hands, you pushed yourself to your feet.
“Wake up you lazy shits!” You shouted, startling them all awake. “Did we have a good day?” You asked playing dumb.
“Yeah it was amazing,” Jase nodded. “We went to the park.”
“So you did lose any of the kids?” You asked, placing your hand on your hip.
“Nope,” Clay said, with a sheepish smile on his face.
“Well can someone explain this?” You said, pressing play on the recording.
The whole room fell quiet as they heard the conversation playback from early.
“So wanna change your answer boys?” You glared. “I only have two rules and you fucking broke one of them. And my daughter has a bloody broken arm!”
“Sorry, boss.” Sonny mumbled, not making eye contact.
“You better be you idiots,” you laughed, “At least you came home with a full head count. Now Clay move, you are in my seat.”
Once Clay had moved, you settled down in your spot.
“Oh and another thing, I’ve had a long ass day typing up all the incident reports from J-Bad, I swear your band list gets longer each deployment,” you laughed, “but I’m not happy about the state of my kitchen so you can all get in there and sort it out.”
“Yes, boss.” They all said, making you smirk. Not many people could make Bravo team sulk off with their tail between their legs but you could and it always made you laugh.
“And someone make me a bloody coffee, because I am not moving off this sofa for the rest of the night”

If Glee did a Taylor Swift Tribute Episode...
Just my opinions, feel free to add on to them. I know I have some fellow gleek swifties following me. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Obviously they have to do some of the hits but I think some people would have some out of the box picks.
*This post assumes all Taylor songs are available to choose from as of May 14th 2021 but focuses on Taylor’s first 6 albums (if you want more glee and Taylor I have fics with that; LOVER and FOLKLORE) and takes liberties with where this episode’s placement is in terms of canon. But since it’s all made up anyway who cares (but Blaine’s involved so I guess season 3 idk).*
Okay, trying to do a full plot here (completely inspired by @kurtdeservesbetter head canon posts. I hope this lives up to her fabulous posts). This will be my version of glee so everyone gets solos and Rachel can’t hog the spotlight. Also, this is about to be super long (both post wise and episode wise).
Let’s open the first episode with
...Ready For It because the New Directions are in their reputation era. Santana does the opening cough centerstage. Everyone in black and/or camo green outfits (can you just see Kurt in a dark green bedazzled snake jacket, Santana in a black leather dress, and Tina digging out some goth clothes for people to borrow?), snakes everywhere, but probably no Karyn (she just wouldn’t fit on the auditorium stage). Santana takes the first verse but we have Blaine step up for verse 2. (I just love their friendship in the Michael tribute, cute little badasses are BACK. Also him singing “Burton to this Taylor” is such a Klaine thing to do).
Everyone is still dressed in their rep outfits but we’re in the choir room now. Mr. Schue is talking about why Taylor had to disappear and clap back with rep, how rough the industry is for women and tries to uplift the ladies in the room and encourage them to not silence their voices (cue snarky comment from Santana about Rachel needing to be silent).
Then, Mr. Schue goes on about how you can only understand how Taylor got to her rep era by studying her earlier music. So we have a performance of Tim McGraw. Simple, front of the choir room performance, maybe Puck does guitar, and sitting on stools.
Everyone is surprised to find out how pumped Sam is for this assignment but he is all over it. “It's about time we did some country in this room.” Cue Sam and Quinn at her locker talking about their ‘date’ last night, Sam’s all cute and teasing and Quinn is not into it. She tells him it was fun but she was wrong, they shouldn’t do this again. In turn, he does a wonderful performance of Bye Bye Baby. He thought it was more but clearly he’s “a part of her past.”
Then, we’re in the empty choir room. Tina and Mike are there. (I love their cutesy duets) They sing Everything Has Changed and it’s utterly adorable. Can’t you hear Mike asking Tina if she’s “good to go” like Ed does? And while we’re on the subject of cute duets and RED, we flash to the courtyard to see Santana and Brittany. They turn Stay Stay Stay into a duet. “I’ve been loving you for quite some time,” “before you I only dated self-indulgent takers who took all their problems out on me,” “no one else is gonna love me when I’m mad, mad, mad,” and “it’s occurring to me that I’d like to hang out with you for my whole life” it’s perfect for them. Adorable ladies kisses are had.
Let’s toss in some boy drama for fun. Idk shit about football but somehow Puck is praised by their coach over Finn, which gets him all pissy, and Puck’s upset and jealous because Finn is back with Quinn now (this is why Quinn shut Sam now earlier, she changed her mind). Can we say duet of Bad Blood? “So if you’re coming my way...just don’t.”
After their dramatics, we have a Brittany solo in the choir room. It’s after school at this point (or whenever glee club is). Brittany does You’ll Always Find You Way Back Home.
When she finishes Mr. Schue tries to explain that it’s a Hannah Montana song. Britt injects that it’s confusing how she’s really Miley Cryus “like how can you be two people at once?”. Before Mr. Schue can continue, Kurt pipes up “you never specified that the songs had to be sung by Taylor Swift, just that they were her songs.” Mercedes adds, “yeah, Mr. Schue, Taylor wrote that song.” Mr. Schue concedes that he has once again been outwitted by Kurtcedes. The friends do their little hand shake thing.
With a sigh, Mr. Schue asks Mike if he’s ready to go and Mike asks to take things to the auditorium for some dancing room. Everyone’s on stage with him and it’s kind of a group number but Mike is the focus. It’s Shake It Off. All inspired by the music video. He’s tried to fit in elsewhere (i.e. football, with the smart kids, etc..) but he’s really himself in glee when he’s dancing.
Part 2 of Taylor Tribute Episodes
We begin with an ALL GIRL NUMBER of A Place In This World. Just because.
Glee is dismissed and we zoom in on Artie. He’s watching Tina with Mike and Brittany with Santana. Both Tina and Britt have broken his heart by this point. So, he’s rolling down the halls singing A Perfectly Good Heart. While Artie’s soloing, we cut to Rachel watching Finn and Quinn chatting. Artie’s song playing over this scene. Rachel is feeling similar to him at the moment.
She’s pretty sure Finn dumped her to be with Quinn again even though Kurt and Blaine told her they saw Quinn and Sam at the movies last night together making out in the back row. Fine, if that’s how he’s going to be, she doesn’t need him anyway. Cue Mr. Perfectly Fine. Uber dramatic solo performance walking around McKinley’s halls watching Finn and Quinn together ending in the auditorium alone. (see what I did there, both broken hearted peeps singing a song with Perfectly in it (this was not at all planned, actually, happy accident))
After some good old heartbreak, we have Kurt and Blaine on screen. Blaine walks into the auditorium to see Kurt sitting on the edge of the stage. “What’s all the fuss?” he asks from the door. Kurt had texted him “EMERGENCY.” The band starts to play and Kurt just starts singing, Enchanted. It’s time to profess their love for each other, just like they sing Perfect together in the car, this duet needs no audience. Blaine catches up and sings while walking towards his boyfriend. It’s very reminiscent of past New Directions competitions where they come in from the back and make their way to the stage. “Wondering if you knew I was enchanted to meet you?” Kurt and Blaine both know the answer to that question now but just a few months ago they were both wondering that exact thing.
They kiss before we cut to Kurt and Blaine walking hand in hand into the choir room where everyone else is already. Mr. Schue is praising the performances thus far and of course asks Rachel if she’s ready to solo (some practice for her completion solo). This causes an uproar from Mercedes and Santana. Another classic argument of how she gets too many solos. Mr. Schue tries to shut them both down but Santana tells Rachel to watch her back, and we get three very different reactions to this.
All three girls storm out.
First, we visit Mercedes alone in the courtyard. This solo is all about being hurt over this great thing in her life (glee) and her being denied happiness within that club. Thus, Cold As You. (mostly to indulge myself because she’d blow us away with this song).
Next, Rachel in the auditorium. A huge bridge on stage (very Speak Now Tour of her), belting out Better Than Revenge. Santana’s dropped the last straw (the humiliation, name calling, Finn at one point and now solos,) it’s too much this time.
And finally, Santana walking around McKinley, showing us flashes of Rachel ‘outshining’ her and the rest of glee and Mr. Schue being unfair, while singing Look What You Made Me Do.
Tina walks out at the same time as Rachel, Mercedes, and Santana but no one seems to put two and two together. She feels just as underutilized as the latter two do. She ends up in an empty classroom and sings The Outside. “Nobody ever lets me in” and “on the outside looking in.”
Once the 3, err 4, divas have left the room, Finn sticks up for Rachel. Quinn, of course, has something to say about this along the lines of “you always defend her.” Finn, intimated by her ‘scary Quinn’ fumbles and blurts “because she’s my girlfriend” WHICH IS NOT TRUE AT THIS POINT. Quinn dumps him on the spot, cuts quickly to Blaine and Kurt sharing some ‘oh my god, can you believe this’ expressions, and vanishes from the room.
By this point, Rachel is long gone from the auditorium but the bridge is still there.
Here’s where we go way off script but imagine, Quinn has decided to just quit boys. They’ve all failed her anyway, she’s better off being alone. She walks up the bridge and thinks to herself “god Rachel’s so dramatic, where did this thing even come from” before it hits her “fuck, I’m as bad as Finn. I want her.” Then, she starts singing Clean to herself in the auditorium, likely tearing up throughout and ending with a good cry. (Because Dianna would DELIVER with Clean.)
While Quinn is having a sexuality crisis, the rest of glee is still happening. They’re discussing upcoming competition and debating solos and songs.
Kurt’s all: “Mr. Schue, if I may” and performs a lovely rendition of Call It What You Want. Those opening lines are too good. “My castle (ie McKinley) crumbled overnight, brought a knife to a gun fight (ie couldn’t fight off Dave Karofsky), “I’m doing better than I ever was ‘cause my baby’s fit like a daydream,” and “at least I did one thing right.” When he’s done, Blaine’s a mess in the back of the choir room, and Mr. Schue says: “not really what we’re looking for but very nice, Kurt” however, Kurt’s too busy sitting beside Blaine teasing him about blushing.
Then, the missing girls return to the room having sung out their emotions. Quinn, having realized her feelings for Rachel, ends up soloing You Belong With Me to the New Directions in the choir room. Odd looks all around, no one knows what’s up with her and why does she keep glancing at Rachel? (Faberry just fit so well I had to add it, don’t know if I’m a shipper or not but it’s here now) (also thanks to @spicygemini for pointing out the obvious “Quinn would have ate YBWY”).
Mr. Schue wants to move the group to the audition to perform their final number of the Taylor Swift tribute well but Tina asks to sing first. He’s surprised but allows it, taking a seat with the rest of the New Directions.
Tina sings Beautiful Ghosts. “Watch from the dark, wait for my life to start” because New Directions is refusing to use her talents AGAIN. She’s singing this to Rachel and the girls who were in the Treble Tones. Because she absolutely SMASHES this number, the glee kids agree she gets solo for their next competition (and they deliver on that promise).
To conclude Part 2 of the Taylor tribute episode, we have a group performance of Long Live. “One day we will be remembered”, “all the years we stood there on the sidelines wishing for right now”, “for a moment a band of thrives in ripped up jeans got to rule the world” ie wining completions, “when they look at the pictures please tell them my name...”

Dream
“I remember that day clearly, my last birthday with them. Father knows I hate large gatherings, yet he threw me a big party anyways. Everyone showed up. The Leaguers, the original Leaguers, the Titans, my friends and family.
I didn’t appreciate it back then. Now I can only look back and wish I could experience it once more. Wish I could see them once more, happy, together, not having to worry about an ongoing war.
I remember racing my cousins. I wish I hadn’t cheated in that race. Uncle Jon said Mother had used the same trick when they were kids. I practiced magic with Tiago and the Constantines. I remember Aunt Kori pulling me into an unbreakable hug. She had told me I’m growing to be just like my mother.
I used to look like her. Both with purple eyes and purple hair. My skin had more color. Now I look nothing like her. I no longer have her purple eyes, but green like Father’s, my hair has become a brighter shade of purple.
I miss them. Father gave me a silver dagger that day. He never lets me play with sharp objects, we only used wooden sticks when training. Mother gifted me with a spell book, it contained a vast collection of spells ranging from beginners to highly advanced. I lost both of them. The only things I have left of my parents, lost, gone forever. I long for them to return. My parents and their gifts.
I wish for all of them to return. Not just my parents but everyone. I wished this never happened, I wish the war never started. I wish I had been more grateful for all that they have done for me.”
“Do you remember the day they left you at that place? That place that was supposed to be remote, guarded, and free of any upcoming parademon attack?” he asked the young girl.
“How could I not? That was the day I lost them. That was the day they left.
Grandmother Talia greeted us at the harbor of Infinity Island. I didn’t know, back then, that it was the last time I'd see them. They told me I’ll be staying with Grandmother for a while, I didn’t think of asking how long. Then they hugged me. I missed that. I missed the way they’d cover me in their warm embrace. The way Father wraps his arm around both me and mother. I caught a shimmer of a tear from the corner of Mother's eyes. I felt their sadness. It was when I saw that tear slip, that I knew something was wrong. When I felt Father fighting to keep his posture, his stoic manner, that was when I knew I would be there for longer than ‘a while’. I wish I could’ve told them how much I loved them, I wished I could’ve given them one last hug,” she closed her eyes. “But I didn’t. I didn’t because I was a dumb eight year old who didn’t know what to do.”
“Do you remember the day you died? The day those hybrids took you down? The day you visited me in my realm and left to rejoin the living? The day you left something very valuable behind?” he asked.
“Why are you asking me these questions?” she asked miserably.
He smiled. “Because Granddaughter, it is good to learn from the past, to take the pain and turn it into strength. Now, tell me of that day.”
“I-I remember running to the courtyard. There were screams coming from outside. An assassin crashed through the window, his legs were gone. I was...horrified, yet I kept going. I was stupid, thinking I could help. When I reached the courtyard, I saw corpses everywhere. Ripped up and severed. Grandmother and her elite archers were shooting down the creatures. My uncle calls them Paradooms. Parademons mixed with Kryptonian DNA. Grandmother’s supply of kryptonite-infused weapons was running low. I thought I was strong enough. I summoned beams of energy. I kept using magic until I had no energy left. I kept going. I should’ve stopped. I continued to fight. Picking up a stray sword with a kryptonite blade. It cut through plenty of monsters. Then Grandmother called my name. It was as if time slowed down. Her face contorted to horror, an emotion I have never seen her express. I felt a wave of emotions coming from her. Yet, nothing from myself. The pain was so bad, it felt like nothing. My vision had begun to blur when I noticed the sharp point of a claw emerging from my chest. I remember the paradoom falling as I laid on the ground. Grandmother rushed to my side. She told me not to worry. Then I came here. To this place you call home.”
“I never see this hellish realm as home. I am a conqueror of worlds, I focus on establishing and controlling new frontiers.”
“TT. We can agree that we have very different interests, Grandfather.”
“Indeed.”
“Now, I must ask. Why are you here? Why am I here? Why have you called upon me?”
“I am here to remind you. It takes a lot of energy to escape that prison in your mother’s head to visit you in your dream. This location is where your subconscious wants you to be, because deep down you know where to go. You know how to end this. You blame the Lazarus Pit for your loss of powers, but have you really lost your powers?” He gave her an amused smile, knowing the young girl was conflicted.
“Yes. No! I don’t know! I can still feel emotions, I can feel energy within me, but I can’t access it. I can’t perform a single spell, not even the simplest,” she confessed.
“The Pit is supposed to revive and strengthen the one of dips in it, that is if they are able to control the evil temptations of the Pit. You, Granddaughter, were already powerful. You still are. The Pit boosted your abilities, but you haven’t brought them back with you.”
“You’re saying...that I left my powers in Hell?” Rashida asked skeptically.
“What else could I be saying, dear?”
“What’s it in for you? Why are you helping me?”
“Because I would like to conquer Earth. I shall not let that weak, ‘New God’ destroy this planet before I do. Besides, I need a body to inhabit once I break free. Your mother won’t last, she is already weak.”
This got Rashida’s attention. “Then how do I get my powers back? How can I get to Hell without dying?”
“Hm. I’m sure that spellbook of yours would be useful. Once the proper ritual is performed, you should be able to enter and exit that realm.”
“But, I’ve lost it. The book was burned during the first paradoom attack.”
“You are the granddaughter of Trigon. The granddaughter of the first Batman, Bruce Wayne. The great granddaughter of Ra’s Al Ghul. The granddaughter of Talia Al Ghul. The daughter of Raven, the Queen of Hell. The daughter of Damian Al Ghul Wayne, the current Batman. You have a powerful heritage. I expect you to live up to your blood.” He gave her an expectant look. “And let’s not forget that family that took in your mother when you first came to Earth, the Kryptionians,” he added.
“Bart explained this to me the other day, something about a multiverse. The book is lost in this world. It no longer exists in this universe. However, there are many alternate universes, different worlds out there. If I’m able to locate the right one, I should be able to get that book”
Trigon smiled. “Correct, my dear. Now, time is running short. I suggest you make haste.”
Rashida looked up from her internal thoughts. “Wait, what do you mean by that?”
But it was too late. Her surroundings have begun to shift. Trigon had swirled into a translucent black shadow and disappeared through the cracks of the room. She no longer sat in the obsidian chair in the Underworld’s throne room. Instead Rashida sat up with a jolt in her uncle’s base. Her head was beaded with sweat. She left the little room, which she had claimed to be her sleeping quarter. Jason was still asleep in front of his computer. Judging by the position of the sun in the cloudy red sky, it was late in the morning.
Artemis looked up from her daily ritual of sword sharpening. “Good morning, kid.”
“Why did you let me sleep in?” asked Rashida.
“Last night was rough. I thought you needed the rest,” she glanced at Jason and Roy, who was still asleep on the worn down couch. Artemis held up a tin can. “Pineapples?”
Rashida accepted the fruit. “How did you get your hands on pineapples?”
Artemis shrugged. “Oh, you know. Quinn and her buddies were in the area.”
Rashida took a bite of the diced pineapples. “I have to say, I envy them. They get to do the cool stuff like infiltrating LexCorp. While, we’re stuck fighting off the parademons and thugs.”
“This’ll be over soon. And then, you can do the cool “infiltrating” stuff as well,” assured the Amazon.

La Cuervo - Chapter 8
She is used to the biker-life, having grown into a woman in the familiar embrace of SAMCRO. A bad decision and a gun-shot later, she gets whisked off to Santo Padre, and put under the protection of another club. What is supposed to be a short stint in the Mayan headquarters just north of the border to Mexico, turns into something more; when la quervo begins to develop feelings for el angel - and he seems to return them in kind...
TW: violence, blood, drug use, alcohol, smut, fluff, angst
In the spirit of "The Crown Princess of Charming", this is a story about O.C. Nina and Angel Reyes. It is obviously non-canon, as characters who have passed on on Mayans M.C. are present in it, and others have been excluded completely. Nina is written as a cis-female, but I have tried to keep her race and looks as ambigous as possible. Should you find any of this story offensive, please let me know.
Tumblr media
8.
With firm hands on her hips, Angel led Nina in front of him; only letting go to hold the door for her to enter the clubhouse. Inside, they found both clubs neck deep in their first beers. Tig was seated on a chair with Chucky on his lap; bouncing the little smiling man up and down on his knee, while he hugged him tight. “I missed you so much, Chucky! Are they treating you ok? Do they feed you?”. He looked at Hank who was laughing at the scene. “You know, he likes his eggs sunny side up. And you need to make sure he doesn’t drink diet coke. It upsets his tummy”. Letty had showed up while she was getting ready, and was seated by the bar nursing a coke; Coco hovering over her, and giving any Son who looked in her direction a death-glare. Leticia was wearing a turtleneck, as she’d been told. The fact that it was a crop-top didn’t seem to matter to her.
Nina pulled at Angel’s cut to make him lean his ear down to her lips. “I’m gonna go spend some time with my other family, before VM rolls in, and I have to pretend not to know them”, she said. “Please don’t get all macho again”. “Can’t promise anything”, Angel said, and placed a possessive kiss on her neck. She pushed him away, and went to sit down with her brothers. After taking a chair between Rat and Happy, Ratboy gestured at her neck. “You got a little something…”, he smirked. Letty jumped off her chair, and handed Nina a pocket mirror, to examine the hickey Angel had left there, just below the one he’d made the day before. “Shit. What are you; 13?”, she growled at Angel. He smiled smugly, and grabbed a beer, before going over to stand by EZ.
Rat gave Letty a shy once-over, and Nina patted his arm. “Don’t… Her dad was a sniper in Iraq”, she muttered. Letty smiled at Rat, before going back to the bar. “That’s her father?”, Rat whispered, and looked at Coco. “Yup…”, Nina replied. Coco took a huff of his smoke, and leaned against the bar; moving his cut so that his gun was visible. Rat swallowed thickly, and moved his focus back to his beer.
Happy elbowed her softly, and pulled out his phone, to show her a picture on the screen. “Wendy checked in”, he said. The picture was of Thomas with his face covered in chocolate. Abel was running in the background, wielding a supersoaker. Nina let out a soft sigh. “God, that kid looks like Jax”, she said. “Which one?”, Happy grunted. Nina chuckled sadly, and the biker put an arm around her. “Yeah… I know”.
“So, you’re coming back with us, right?”, Tig asked; having finally let Chucky go. “No, she isn’t…”, Filip said, having appeared at the table with a glass of scotch in hand. “What?”, Happy said, his expression suddenly angry. Filip sat down, and Bishop pulled up a chair next to him. The two presidents gave each other a knowing but hard look. “It seems our Nina has sold herself into servitude”, Filip said. Tig leaned forward and shook his head. “Nah… Nuh uh. What the fuck is this shit?”, he said. “She’s not some piece of ass for you to…”. “Relax, Trager. It’s not like that”, Bishop said. “Then tell us what it is!”, Quinn said. Filip gestured for Bishop to continue, an irritated but defeated expression on his face. “As you know, Vatos Malditos are coming to Santo Padre. They’re going to offer us money to help them search for Nina”, Bishop said. “You told them…?”, Tig roared.
The Sons jumped to their feet, hands on their weapons. The Mayans responded in kind, and it seemed that what had just been a nice get together, now was about to turn in to a massacre. Letty and Chucky dove behind the bar, and Nina got on her feet. She grabbed Filip’s glass, and flung it at the wall; smashing it into a thousand pieces. “Enough!”, she roared. “Fuck! It’s like dealing with overgrown children…”. She scowled deeply at all the men. “Sit your asses down, and listen!”. “Yeah, fucking listen!”, Creeper growled. Nina drew her lips back in a snarl. “Shut the fuck up, Creep; or I’ll superglue your dick to your balls!”. Creep looked dumbstruck. “Are you gonna let your girl talk to me like that, brother?”, he asked Angel. “Fuck, yeah”, Angel said. “Oh, and you and me are in the cage tonight”. Creeper sat down, cursing bellow his breath.
Once everyone was seated, and more or less calm, Bishop continued. “You know how it is… We can’t risk money and potential war for an outsider. You wouldn’t either…”. “I’m staying here, working for San Pad for a year”, Nina explained. “That way, the Mayans couldn’t hand me over, even if they wanted to. It would be against their rules, because I’ll be a part of the family here”. “And we’re supposed to trust that they won’t do it anyway… Why?”, Happy asked. “Because Nina does…”, Filip said, giving her a meaningful look. “Look, I don’t like this any more than you do; but as it is, I don’t see another way out. We brought our girl down here; put her in the care of not just another charter, but another club all together. I blame myself… But this is a better solution than all-out war”. The Sons all shared angry and defeated glances. “And after her year is over?”, Tig asked. “That’ll be up to Nina”, Bishop said. “She does good work around here. If she wants to stay…”. “Niña is family”, Coco said, getting concurring nods from the rest of the Mayans. Filip got to his feet. “We’ll deal with that 12 months from now. But you better treat her like a fucking queen, or we will come back down here, and burn this shit-hole to the ground”, he said. “I need a new drink”.
---
A few hours later, after Bishop had explained the plan of letting Nina disappear into the crowd to SAMCRO, the first guests began arriving. Nina rushed around, dealing out orders to the hangarounds who were going to take care of the guests that night. She was overseeing the setting up of the sound equipment outside the clubhouse, while simultaneously refilling the bar set up by the porch. Daniella had decided to show up, in spite of Angel’s rejection. She kept to herself; once in a while sharing some words with some of the other guests. Angel didn’t pay her any attention, though not for her not trying to catch it.
Suddenly, there was a roar of bikes coming up the driveway. Nina instantly froze in place, only to move again, when EZ came up to her, and pulled at her wrist. “You good?”, he said. “Is it them?”, she whispered. EZ looked towards the incoming bikers, and nodded slightly. Nina let out a slight gasp. She turned around, and saw a group of men dressed in denim cuts; none of them looking friendly. They got off their bikes and walked up to greet Bishop, and Filip; who’d followed him outside. The Mayans and the Sons all took their places on the porch, each with their own faction. The leader of the group stepped forwards. He was a brusque and serious looking man, with a long braid down his back. His eyes were cold, and she recognized the family resemblance to Gael. El Palo.
Angel shot her a short look, before looking at EZ. His eyes would have seemed indifferent to anyone else, but Nina could see what he was saying. We got this, querida; and; take care of her, brother. “They’re just gonna stare each other down a bit”, EZ said, trying to calm her. Nina nodded slightly, but was unable to control her breath. It was like someone had a vice-grip on her lungs. EZ looked down at her, and frowned slightly. “I need…”, she heaved. “Time to disappear”, he muttered. Slipping an arm around her shoulders, as if they were about to find a quiet corner together, he led her towards the trailer. Most of the people around them ignored them. It was perfectly normal for couples to get a bit frisky, and needing to release some steam at these kinds of parties. They passed a group of women chattering excitedly. Daniella was among them, and smirked when she saw EZ’s grip on Nina.
As soon as he’d opened the door, Nina stumbled inside the trailer, and grabbed her inhaler from the table. In her shaking state, she dropped it on the floor, and EZ picked it up, handing it to her. She took a hit, and felt her lungs relax. “I’m sorry”, she panted. EZ put a calming hand on her shoulder, and smiled. “You’re ok”, he said. “Just breathe”. Nina took a few deep breaths, and put her forehead on his shoulder. “Thanks”, she said. “Is one brother not enough for you?”. Daniella was standing outside the open door. Nina scowled at her, but didn’t reply; still too wound up to be able to form a proper comeback. Ezekiel went down to face Daniella, and stared her down. “If you wanna stay, behave”, he said. “Otherwise, get the fuck out”. Nina put down her inhaler on the table, and walked outside; closing the door behind her. EZ put his arm around her shoulders again. “Puta…”, Daniella mouthed. Nina shot her the middle finger, and let EZ lead her away.
The staredown seemed to be over, and all three clubs had scattered to enjoy the party. “I have to go take care of the grill”, EZ said. “Will you be ok?”. “Yeah…”, Nina lied. He squeezed her shoulder, and left her to go tend to his job.
She stood for a long moment, looking over the frivolities. Happy and Gilly were looking on, as Angel revved the engine of his bike by the gate separating the scrapyard from the clubhouse area. The Son looked impressed, and let a pretty girl crawl under his arm, and press against him. Hank was studying the tattoo on the arm of a VM. Coco was pulling Letty off a table, where’s she’d been dancing. Nina made eye contact with Filip for a second, and he winked at her quickly, before going back to nursing his beer, and the gorgeous brunette on his lap.
She went up the steps to the porch, and opened the door to the clubhouse, to go inside; when she bumped straight in to a denim-clad chest. “Perdóneme…”, a raspy voice said. She looked up, and locked eyes with a Vato, with inquisitive and cold eyes. She parted her lips – unable to speak – and let out a short, nervous breath. “Let me get this for you”, he said, and held the door open for her. “Thanks…”, she muttered, and walked by him as calmly as she could. Taza was seated by the bar, and when he saw her expression, his eyes flickered for a moment, looking at the VM-biker. “Yo, sweetheart. Get me a beer, would you?”, he called out. “Uh huh”, Nina croaked, and slipped behind the bar as fast as she could. She grabbed a Sol from the fridge, and placed it in front of the VP. Sala disappeared off to somewhere. “You’re doing good, kid”, Taza said quietly. She nodded, and tried to smile.
Tig joined them at the bar, and looked in the bowl of apricots. “I see you’ve let Nina take care of the snacks…”, he chuckled; while looking around to check that none of the VM who were spread around the room were listening. “You have so much to learn”. Taza patted his shoulder. “Educate me, brother”, he smiled. Nina handed Tig a beer, and wiped down the bar, as the two men began sharing stories. After a few shots with the VP's, she felt about as embarrassed as EZ must have felt, after Felipe had told her the story of how he wet himself on the Ferris wheel at a state fair. “… I’m telling you, Taza. Her face was as green as the absinth-liqueur she’d been drinking; and she was dancing on the bar to the national anthem”, Tig said. Taza roared with laughter. “Happy and I had to carry her to bed; and we came back to check on her, she’d snuck out the window of the dorm – the door was unlocked, mind you – and she was running around the lot demanding piggyback-rides from every patch in presence”. Nina cleared her throat. “I think I’m gonna go check on the bar outside”, she said. “Aw, am I embarrassing you, muffin?”, Tig said. “Yes”, Nina said shortly, and shot both men a smile, before grabbing a case of beer, and walking towards the door.
One the porch, she was met by the Vato she’d bumped in to earlier. He gave her unpleasantly leering once-over, before reaching for the case in her arms. “Let me help you", he said. “You don’t have to do that”, she replied. “I insist”, he said, and took the case from her. Nina gave him a polite smile, and gestured towards the bar by the garage. “I’m Sala”. “It’s over here”, she said, avoiding giving him her name. She was just a random hangaround, she kept reminding herself; no one special. She walked ahead of him, not wanting to make it seem like she was interested in having a conversation. Once they arrived at the fridge set up behind the table set up as a makeshift bar, Sala set down the case. She nodded at him. “I can take it from here”, she said, and went to open the fridge. The biker grabbed her arm, and made her turn around; getting a little too close for comfort. “Have someone else do it. Let’s go somewhere private…”, he smirked. “No thanks”, Nina croaked, and pulled her arm from his grasp; backing away. “I don’t think my…”. She didn’t know how to label Angel; it was still too fresh. “I’m here with someone else”. Sala frowned teasingly. “Come on…”, he said, and took a step towards her again. “You look like you like to have fun…”.
“Hey, mami. How are you doing?”, Angel said from behind her; placing his arm protectively around her waist. Nina almost gasped in relief. Happy came up next to them, giving the VM-biker his trademark stink-eye. “This your girl, Reyes?”, Sala said. “Yeah, is she?”, Happy said, looking towards Angel for a split second; and took a sip of his beer. Angel tucked Nina into his side. “Yeah… she is”, he said. “Want to make something of it, carnal?”, he asked Sala. A smile ghosted Happy’s face, and he met Nina’s eyes; nodding shortly. “Sala!”, someone barked from across the lot. Palo had been observing the interaction, a displeased scowl on his face. He nodded his head for Sala to come join him, and the Vato walked off; cursing bellow his breath.
“Thanks…”, Nina muttered. Angel looked down at her. “Ain’t nothing to thank me over”, he said. “He’s just marking his claim”, Happy said. Nina frowned. “Are you gonna pee on me next?”, she grunted. Angel winced. “Don’t tell me you’re in to that shit…”, he said. “That’s nasty”. Happy laughed, and patted Angel’s shoulder; before walking over to join Quinn at a card-game he had going on.
Nina pulled out of Angel’s grasp, and went to fill the fridge. He came up behind her, and grabbed her hips; kissing the back of her neck. “You know you’re not the only one here to do this shit, right?”. “Just keeping busy”, she muttered. “It’s a party. Try to have some fun", he said. “I have to finish this…”. “You have to look like you’re enjoying yourself". He turned her around, and pushed a lock of hair out of her face. “You’re tense as fuck…”. She sighed deeply, and put her forehead against his chest. Angel waved for a female hangaround to come take over; before taking Nina’s hand, and pulling her with him, to go sit on the steps to the porch.
By the looks of it, everyone around them were having fun, but Nina found it hard to get into a partying spirit. She looked over at a table by the garage, where Bishop was deep in conversation with Filip. Palo came over to join them. They all nodded at each other, and the conversation continued with the VM president adding his inputs. Angel noticed Nina looking at them. “You afraid?”, he asked. “Only as much as the next possible murder-victim”, she muttered. He put an arm around her shoulders, and pulled her close. His other hand went to her knee, and he let his fingertips draw small circles on the inside of it. “I know something that might relax you…”. She began to feel her cheeks burning, and bit her lip. “What’s that?”, she asked. He squeezed her thigh, and put his soft lips to her ear. “Watching me fuck up Creeper in that cage…”, he smiled. Nina let out a wanton sigh. “God, yes…”, she breathed.
Angel chuckled, and got up; giving her a hand to stand up herself. “Creep!”, he called out to the other Mayan. His tongue was down the throat of the red-head Coco had had some trouble getting rid of the week before. He pulled back, and looked at Angel. “What, brother?”, he asked. “It’s time”, Angel replied. Creeper gave the ginger one last kiss, and made his way to the cage. Angel went in the same direction, his arm around Nina’s waist.
---
A crowd gathered around the cage, as Angel and Creeper got their hands taped up. Nina let herself be mesmerized by the sight of her bare-chested champion, who was already jittery with adrenaline. Once Riz had finished with his hands, Angel went over, and grabbed the back of her neck; pressing his lips to hers. His kiss was deep and greedy, and he had no shame in pressing his groin against her in front of the crowd. His tongue danced against hers, and he let out a wanton grunt. “Let me just take care of this motherfucker, and then we can go somewhere and finish this”, he said against her lips; and stepped away from her. Nina was surprised her knees were still carrying her, and she felt lightheaded from all of her blood running to her groin.
Once inside the cage, Angel and Creeper circled each other like two lions, until Riz called out for them to begin. Angel flew forwards at the flash of an eye, and slammed his fist into Creeper’s face. Creeper fell backwards, and covered his mouth. Letting Angel think he was disoriented, he stumbled forwards again, and jabbed Angel in the ribs. Nina gasped at the sound, and her heart skip several beats, until Angel straightened back up, and put his arm around Creeper’s neck; continuously jabbing at his sternum. Breaking free, Creeper managed to get a hit in to Angel’s head.
As the fighting continued, Nina was caught off guard, when Palo appeared next to her. He handed her a beer. “As an apology… for my enforcer’s behavior”, he said. “Thank you”, she croaked. Palo gave her a half smile. “I’m just trying to keep him out of that cage…”, he said, and looked towards the two fighters. Angel had Creeper in a headlock. Nina chuckled nervously. “He’s strong… Your man”, Palo said. “Is he doing that for you?”. “I guess…”, Nina said, trying to avoid letting her voice shake too much. Angel looked up at her with a smile; but when he saw Palo, his eyes went cold. Creeper began tapping his arm, to forfeit; but Angel didn’t seem to notice, and only held on harder. Nina’s eyes widened in fear. “Angel! He’s tapping out, man!”, Riz called out. Angel was pulled out of his trance, and immediately let go of Creeper, who fell forwards, gasping for air. “I’ll leave you to it”, Palo said, and walked away.
Riz proclaimed Angel the winner, and he and Creeper hugged. They walked out of the cage together, and came over to Nina. “Are we good, Nina?”, Creeper panted. “Yeah. We’re good, Creep”, she said with a slight smile, and stepped forwards to pat his shoulder. Creeper winced at the touch, blew out a deep breath, and let himself be led away by the readhead, to be pampered.
Angel looked in the direction Palo had gone. “Everything ok?”, he asked. “Yeah, I think so”, Nina muttered. “He was apologizing for that thing from before, with that Vato”. “Huh”, Angel said, before turning to accept a towel from Riz. He had a small cut over his eyebrow, and his ribs were bruised. Nina stroked her fingertips over the mark, and Angel winced a bit. “Are you ok?”, she asked. “I’m good, querida. Don’t worry about it”, Angel replied, and kissed her temple. The scent of his adrenaline-fused sweat and his cologne hit Nina’s nose then, and she let out a soft moan. He smirked down at her. “Who’s the horny little shit, now…? Got something you need, cuervo?”. She bit her lip to keep from grinning, and got on her toes to kiss him deeply; making it very obvious what, in fact, she needed. Angel grabbed his shirt and his cut, and put his arm around her, letting his hand rest on her bottom; before leading her towards the trailer.
They were halted in their tracks, by a whistle. “That was some stellar fighting, brother”, someone called out to them in a Scottish drawl. Nina groaned, and looked over her shoulder disgruntledly at Filip; who was nursing a bottle of Jameson with Tig, Bishop, Sala, and Palo. “Thanks, man”, Angel replied. “Have a seat”, Filip said, and gestured for a chair next to him. Angel shot him a displeased smile, and led Nina over to the group. In spite of her disappointed expression, he put on his shirt and cut again; and sat down next to Filip. Tig smirked at Nina. “Aw, looks like we ran out of chairs. I got a lap right here for you, sweetheart…”. He patted his thighs, his eyes full of mischief. “I have a feeling you’re a dirty old man”, Nina replied, and raised a knowing brow at Tig. “You don’t know the half of it”, he said, and reached out his hand to shake hers. She did actually know much more than she wanted to, but held her tongue. Tig was as dirty as they came, but since hooking up with Venus a few years back, he’d mended his ways somewhat. “Tig Trager”, he introduced himself; keeping up the ruse of not knowing who she was. “And you are?”. “Not interested”, Angel said, and pulled Nina down to sit on his lap.
“You want to be careful with this one, mano”, Sala said. “He’s possessive of his girl”. “Good”, Filip said. “A man should take care of his woman”. Angel nodded shortly at him, and wrapped his arms around Nina’s waist, as she sat sideways on his thighs. Planting a soft kiss on her shoulder, he then accepted a beer from a passing hangaround. Nina looked up at her, and saw that it was Daniella; a fake smile plastered over her face. “Anything for you?”, she asked Nina. “Scotch…”, she replied. “That, I can help with”, Filip said, and got a glass from the table, filling it, and handing it to Nina. “Chibs Telford”, he said. Nina nodded, and took the glass. Daniella had an ugly sneer on her face for a second, before leaving them to it; giving Sala a view of her butt as she passed him. “Mami, get me another cold one”, he said. “Coming right up”, Daniella smiled at him, and moved towards the bar.
Bishop cleared his throat. “Palo was just telling us about a situation up north”, he said. Nina focused on running her nails through Angel’s hair. She was there as arm candy, not to listen; and she needed to keep up her ruse. “Business?”, Angel asked. “Yes… for you”, Palo said. “For me, it’s personal”. “Never good to mix the two”, Filip said. “Maybe not; but in this case, I’m willing to make an exception”, Palo grunted. “Esto se trata de la familia. I know Alvarez is your primo, Obispo; but I don’t trust him and Oakland with this anymore”. There was a pregnant silence, before Bishop spoke again. “As far as I know, Marcus is keeping his end of your deal. He’s been reaching out to all our charters, to find this woman…”. “This whore, shot my cousin down in cold blood!”, Palo growled. “Then she left him behind in a dirty alley to die alone. I want her dead!”.
A shudder went through Nina’s body. “Are you cold?”, Angel asked, trying to cover for her. She shrugged and nodded; and Angel pulled her closer to his chest. He put his lips to her ear, as if he was kissing her. “Breathe, querida”, he whispered, and squeezed her thigh gently; before taking a sip of his beer. “Didn’t she shoot him in the head?”, he said to Palo. Nina’s heart skipped several beats. “What are you saying?”, Bishop asked, his voice warning in its tone. Angel shrugged. “Just that if she shot him in the head…”. He pointed at his temple. “… he was probably dead the second the bullet hit… So, it’s not like he bled out alone on the ground…”. Nina wanted to scream; please shut your himbo mouth!; but, once again, held her tongue. “How does that change the situation?”, Sala asked. “Whoever shot him, didn’t want him to suffer… They were probably just trying to save themselves… Your cousin had reputation of being a bit rough with his women, is what I heard”, Angel replied. Nina hadn’t heard about this before, and was beginning to wonder if Angel had been asking around about Gael, to help her in some way. “Or mug him”, Palo said, obviously indifferent to his cousin’s reputation with women. This seemed odd to Nina, after how he’d handled her situation with Sala.
“Was anything stolen?”, Filip asked. Something cold ghosted Palo’s face, making him even more terrifying. “No… Nothing seemed to be missing from his body”, he said. “The puta did leave something behind, though”, Sala said. He grabbed the beer Daniella sauntered over to give him, before running his hand up her thigh. She smiled sweetly at him, taking it as her que to take a seat on his lap. He took a sip of his beer, and looked down her cleavage; seemingly satisfied with his catch of the evening, now that he couldn’t have Nina. “An inhaler…”, Palo said. “Was there a name on it?”, Tig asked. “No… But we know she used a .38”. “Those are some pretty weak leads”, Filip said. “Perhaps. But it’s something. And I’m going to use it to track her down… With your help”.
“What is it you want us to do? This happened in northern Cali", Bishop said. “I suspect she’s moving towards the border, trying to get across somehow, to avoid police investigation", Palo said. “As I understand it, your charter has been known to find ways to cross over with goods, without suspicion from authorities”. “What are you trying to say? That we helped her cross, in spite if your deal with El Padrino?”, Bishop said. “My deal is with Oakland", Palo said. “Different charter, same club", Tig said. “From our experience, Mayans are loyal to their brother-charters deals. They back each other". Palo looked at him with a scowl. “Maybe so…”. He turned his head towards Bishop. “I meant no disrespect. I am sure you back your brothers up north. “The same brothers you are saying you don’t trust", Bishop said. “That’s disrespect in itself".
Palo folded his hands, and smiled congenially. “Maybe we can rebuild that trust right now".

-Maybe it wasn’t meant to be- |J. Hughes| [Part 2]
Jack lay in bed, by himself, for the first time in weeks. They had won last night in a shootout, Jack having the winning goal and winning the series. But it still didn’t feel like enough. He still felt empty. Whether it was because he didn’t have her or because he knew she didn’t care or love him anymore, he wasn’t sure. The fact that he still blamed this feeling on Charlie made him sick to his stomach. He rolled over, grabbing his phone off the bedside table and ignoring the 3 text messages from Mallory, the model he had been hooking up with. He had a few texts from family, telling him congrats on the series win. But the one text he was most concerned about was from Alex. Jack had seen the news about Alex’s trade and had been meaning to text him but with all his “extracurricular activities”, he had forgotten and never texted him. So seeing Alex’s name in his phone brought a smirk to Jack’s face.
Alex-I just got done talking to Charlie
Alex-What the hell did you do to her
Jack’s stomach dropped again. He sat up in bed, his sore muscles complaining. Alex had gotten traded to Colorado, meaning Charlie was in Colorado. With Alex. Jack didn’t even think twice and pressed the call button. It rang a few times then Alex’s voice broke through the silence.
“What the hell are you talking about, Turcs?” Jack says, trying not to snap at Alex.
“I guess you got my text huh?” Alex says. Jack shifts, crossing his arm over his chest and grabbing onto his shoulder.
“Obviously now please explain to me what the hell you’re talking about. Charlie is in Colorado?” Jack’s chest tightens as he says her name for the first time in 3 years.
“She’s in Colorado. Tell me what you did to her.” Jack swallowed hard and let his head fall back against the headboard of his bed.
“I messed up Turcs. I made her feel like she wasn’t enough and that I didn’t want her. I was confused and wasn’t sure that I wanted to keep all the promises I made to her. I wasn’t sure that what we had was love, I mean we were only 18. But I look back now and I know, she’s the only one I can ever love like that. She’s the only one. But it’s too late.” Jack’s stomach churned. Alex was silent on the other end of the phone.
“So you’re telling me, you gave her up? And since she didn’t want to get hurt, she left? She ran away from you, Jack.” Jack’s head dropped.
“I know. And I shouldn’t be holding on to her after this long. She’s probably forgotten about me and moved on. I wouldn’t blame her if she did. I deserve that.” Jack said, running a hand through his hair.
“Jack, you made her drop all of us. She shut everyone out of her life that reminded her of you. The last time I had talked to her was 3 years ago! None of knew what happened and then you started to spiral. We had all figured you guys had broken up when she disappeared. I mean, come on man. This wasn’t just about you.” Alex’s words played in his head over and over again.
“So what are you saying? Do I try and reach out? Should I text her?” Jack asks.
“I didn’t say that. It’s been 3 years. She told you not to come after her, which was a stupid move you idiot. I’ve watched enough romance movies with Madi to know that when a girl says that, the guy is supposed to go after them.” Jack smiles a little, thinking about all the nights Jack, Alex, Charlie and Madi, Charlie’s best friend, would spend in the basement of his parents’ house back in Plymouth when he and Alex were in the NDTP, watching every movie from The Notebook to Miracle. It seemed like a lifetime ago.
“I was a stupid kid then. If I had the chance to go back, you know I would go after her.” Alex moves the phone to his other ear and clears his throat.
“Jack, I think you need to think this through before you do anything. I’m going over to Charlie’s later. I might try and get her to talk about all of this. I know she talked to Madi about it at the beginning but with Madi being in Germany for the last year and a half, they haven’t talked much. Who knows, she may just shut down if I even mention your name.” Jack nods, agreeing with Alex. It had taken him 3 years to even say her name. When she had first left, Jack had gone back home for a week. It had worked out that the team had a 3 game series against Detroit. He had sat in his childhood room, looking at the pictures on his walls. Most of them had her in them. They had been friends since they were kids. He had fallen for her the day she had looked at him, rolled her eyes and bet him 3 dollars and a piece of gum that he wouldn’t eat the sucker they had found stuck to the pavement in the cul-de-sac. That had happened when they were 11. She had been his neighbor, 3 houses away from his on the cul-de-sac, since he was born. Their families became friends because of the two of them. Charlie’s older brother went to college at the University of Michigan with Quinn, actually finishing his degree, unlike Quinn who ended up going to the NHL. Charlie’s younger brother played hockey with Luke for a couple seasons before deciding he liked baseball better. Every memory he had, she was apart of. Every birthday party since he was 7, every school dance; every little memory that he had from his childhood and into his NHL start, she was there. He didn’t want to let go of her because he thought it would make all those memories even harder for him. But sitting there, in his childhood bedroom, crying over something he had messed up, his mom had walked into his room. She had sat down on his bed, rubbed his knee and comforted him as best she could. But out of all the things she said, one thing still stuck with him, even now. She had picked up the picture of them from homecoming their freshman year. Homecoming had been about 3 months after Jack had asked Charlie to be his girlfriend.
“I see how you two are there. So happy and definitely in love. You loved her, and she definitely loved you. But honey, sometimes people love someone but it isn’t the right time for them to love each other. It’s just, right person, wrong time.” And that’s what he had held onto. That he and Charlie were just the right person, wrong time. Maybe they’d find each other in the future and things would work out.
“I guess it’s really her move. Not anything I can do. You can talk to her if you want, you don’t have to. I’ll talk to you later, Alex. Thanks for listening and letting me know. See you next time we’re in Denver.” Alex says bye and Jack ends the call. He falls back against the pillows and stares at the ceiling.
Charlie looked down at the pictures and clothes scattered around her on the floor. The day she had left, she had thrown all of the stuff she had of Jack’s into a box. Every picture, every sweatshirt and t-shirt, every piece of jewelry that he had gotten her since she was 14. At first, she couldn’t even bring herself to look through the box or to even have it anywhere she would see it on a daily basis. But now, she was getting better. The box had moved from the hall closet to the corner of her room. When things got really bad and all she could think about was Jack, she would pull something out of the box, usually one of the sweatshirts or t-shirts, and think back on how things used to be. She knew she still loved Jack but how long could she go on loving him? Did he even remember her? Did he still think of her as much as she thought of him? Honestly, she probably would never know the answers to those questions, which hurt, but there wasn’t anything she could do about it because she wasn’t going to go after someone who had pushed her away all those years ago. He had decided she wasn’t worth it and never came after her. As she sat on the floor, staring at the promise ring he had given her when they were 17, Alex knocked on the door to her apartment. She quickly threw everything in the box and got up, running to open the door. She threw it open and Alex looked up at her from his phone with an amused look on his face.
“Excited to see me?” He says as he walks into the apartment behind her. She shuts the door and locks it behind him.
“Oh hush, Turcs.” She says, rolling her eyes. She and Alex had fallen right back into how they were before, with him constantly teasing her and her taking it but giving it right back.
“So how do you like the new apartment?” Charlie asks, walking in front of Alex who follows her into the living room. He sits on the couch as she collapses on the floor.
“You always liked sitting on the floor better than the couch, you weirdo.” Alex says, nudging her with his foot. She laughs and gets on her phone. Charlie scrolls through instagram, pausing for a second on a picture of Jack from the All-Star game a few weeks ago. Alex watches over her shoulder, trying to decide whether or not to tell her about his call with Jack.
“Hey Char...I talked to Jack before I came here.” He says, tapping on her shoulder. She stiffens for a second then turns to look at Alex.
“You...You talked to Jack. Did you tell him...that you talked to me? That I was here?” She asked, something that looked like fear but was more concern and interest than anything.
“I mentioned I had talked to you and that you were here. We talked about what happened.” She picks at her lip and watches Alex. Alex is being careful with his words, trying not to cause a breakdown.
“As in...why I left? You guys talked about why I left?” Alex nods, moving down to the ground to sit next to her.
“We talked about it. He explained what he thinks he did to cause you to leave. It all makes sense, Char.” Charlie nods, her head staying down.
“I know it makes sense Alex. Why do you think I did it?” She says, pushing her hair back out of her face and looking at him hard.
“It wasn’t the right choice though. I loved him and I knew he wasn’t going to hurt me. Why did I think it was a good idea to let him go? If we’re being honest, I still love him.” Alex’s eyes stay on Charlie, trying hard to hide his slight excitement.
“Charlie, have you ever thought about maybe trying to reach out to him? I mean, you two were friends before everything. You were best friends.” Charlie shakes her head.
“Alex, I can’t. I decided I wasn’t going to go after someone who had pushed me away all those years ago. He had decided I wasn’t worth it and never came after me.” Alex places his hand on her knee gently, distracting her from picking at her fingers.
“Char, you told him not to come after you. If he loved you, you told him not to come after you. So I understand what you were thinking but you wanted him to come after you, didn’t you?” Those words shatter Charlie. She starts to cry and Alex pulls her into a hug.
“All I wanted was for him to come after me. I wanted him to show up in Colorado and take me back home with him. Say I belonged with him, in Jersey. I wanted the whole dramatic movie reuniting. But instead he never came and I stayed in Denver, heartbroken. I don’t understand. I thought he loved me.” She chokes out the words, sobbing into Alex’s shoulder. Alex hugs her to his chest, his heart breaking for his two best friends.

Hiking Fun || Samcedes
Who: Mercedes Jones and Sam Evans
What: Sam and Banner join Mercedes, Aiden and James as they go hiking and enjoy a picnic.
Notes: @sammy-d-evans
Mercedes zipped up the last sandwich and placed it into the bag, glancing out the window and smiling at Aiden and James ran around in the backyard. She went over her list of things they needed for the day, ensuring that she didn't forget a thing. Since they were going on a hiking trail and having a picnic, she didn't want them dragging coolers around, so she made each of them a lunchbox with sandwiches, chips, drinks, and a treat. Brownies were chosen by the boys. Grabbing the ice packs and frozen water bottles from the freezer, she loaded up each bag and smiled. Mercedes zipped up the last sandwich and placed it into the bag, glancing out the window and smiling at Aiden and James ran around in the backyard. They were ready, now all they needed was Sam.
Grabbing her hiking boots, she debated if she should go with tennis shoes but thought against it, then grabbed them just in case. Worst case scenario, she would leave them in the car. Throwing her hair into a messy bun. she glanced at herself once more, smiling at the oversized purple shirt that hung off her left shoulder and pair Capri leggings. There was a time when she would dress up to try and impress Sam, but he friend-zoned her one too many times, and she finally gave up any notion that they would be anything other than friends. No matter if she did still like him as more. Shaking off her thoughts, she called the boys in and smiled. They were going to have fun, she was sure of it.
As he made his way to the back of his truck, Sam couldn't help but smile as Banner greeted him with a wildly wagging tail. "Someone's excited to go on a hike," he spoke as he helped the dog out of the back of his truck. Sam checked if the backpack harness was still in place before he told Banner to follow him. Sam had bought Banner a backpack for hikes like this. The St. Bernard loved to work and help out, so he had him carry treats and water on most of their walks.
He reached the front door of Mercedes house and rang the doorbell, patiently waiting for someone to open the door.
Mercedes heard the doorbell, but Aiden and James ran to the door before she could get it. "Don't you boys open it unless you know it's Sam!" She yelled after them. They quickly looked out the window and yanked the door open. Smiling at Sam but going right to Banner.
Mercedes grabbed the bags and smiled, seeing the kids and Sam. "Hey, Sam! We are ready."
Sam grinned as James and Aiden forgot to greet him in favor of hugging Banner. "Be careful, he drools," Sam jokingly warned before turning his attention to Mercedes. His eyes wandered over her statue. He arched a brow in silent question when he noticed the bags. "Hey, hi. Are you bringing a whole restaurant with ya," he inquired as he reached out to take the bags from her. "I thought we could walk to the start of the trail; it's only like 10 minutes or so."
Mercedes cleared her throat. "Gentlemen! Banner didn't drive himself here. Say hi to Sam!"
"Hi, Uncle Sam." The boys said in unison, and she laughed at Sam's words. "Hardy har har very funny. It's just water and snacks and a picnic; you do realize these boys eat every five minutes, right?" She teased as she grabbed the other bag. "That's fine with me. And I am pretty sure the boys want as much time with Banner as they can get."
"Feelin' the love, guys," Sam snorted as he put his head through the straps of the bags and let them hang over his shoulder. "I know, I know, growing boys and all that...  We should be at a great spot to take a break in like 40 minutes or so," Sam mentioned as he led Mercedes towards the boys.
She laughed as she gave picked up her phone and keys, putting them in her bag. "As long as we make it fun and take breaks for the boys, I think this will be great! It's the perfect weather for hiking too. Is it true that one of the trails has a waterfall?" She handed each boy their bag. "We have extra water just in case." She said, making sure they had everything.
Sam snatched the bags from the boys and put them in his own, nodding his head in reply. "There is, but that one is a lot longer than the trail I planned for us to follow today. Maybe another time?" Sam put Banner on his leash and handed it to the boys. "Alright, all ready for an adventure?"
Mercedes smiled. "Yeah, that sounds like a plan." She locked the door as James and Aiden grabbed the leash.  Taking out her phone, she smiled, taking a few photos of the boys and Banner. "Okay, so how are you doing? How are the store and everything." She asked Sam looking at him for a moment before looking back at the boys.
"I'm good, and so is the store. People really found their way there, and I managed to build a steady stream of loyal customers," Sam started as he led the way outside. Then, after telling Banner to follow him, knowing that the dog would keep the boys from running off, he turned his attention back to Mercedes. "Met up with Quinn yesterday; it was nice getting to catch up with her after all this time. But enough about me, how are you?"
"That is really great! I mean, your store is pretty impressive, so it makes sense you would have a loyal following." As they walked towards the trail, she listened to him speak. "Really? I am so glad she is back for good. We talk so much, but it's been a while since we lived in the same place."
"You've talked to her while she was away," Sam inquired, the surprise of hearing Mercedes say that evident in his voice. "But yeah, it's nice she's back." Sam looked over his shoulder to check if Banner and the boys managed to keep up with them. Then, satisfied that they were, he turned the corner, bringing them to the start or the trail. "And how are things with you? What's this thing you needed a second opinion about?"
Mercedes nodded. "Yeah, we try to talk at least once a week, sometimes more, but now that she is here, I am so happy." Mercedes let the kids move in front of them as they moved to the trail. "Okay, guys, do any of you have to go to the bathroom before we get started?" They shook their heads no, and she nodded. They did go before Sam got there. As they started, she worried her bottom lip. "Umm, well, it's pretty big, and I don't know if it's a good idea."
"I always thought she just disappeared without a trace and didn't have contact with anyone," Sam wondered out loud. The feeling that washed over him stung. He felt somewhat hurt and left in the dark about how his friend had been doing all these years by another one. He swallowed and decided to shake off the feeling. Sam looked at Mercedes. "Sounds serious... what's this big thing?"
Mercedes sighed. "To her credit, she tried, but like with you and everyone else, I made sure we kept in touch." She let them walk in silence, feeling the weight of his stare. Finally, after a few more moments, she cleared her throat. "I want to give Aiden a sibling. I am thinking of using a Sperm Donor."
"It's a little hard to keep in touch when you don't know their number," Sam thought to himself while he nodded in understanding. He almost stumbled over his feet as her words sunk in. "You... oh wow, yeah okay, that's huge."(edited)
Mercedes studied Sam for a moment and waited for his response. She nodded, biting her bottom lip. "I have even looked into possible donors, but it's daunting. What if I choose the wrong one? What will people think of me being a single mom with two kids? But I love Aiden and James, even if he is just my Godson. I am ready to have another one.
"I don't think they'd think any different of you being a single mom of two or just one now," Sam rushed to tell her, trying to take some of her fear of other people's opinions away. "Why a donor, tho? Why not adopt one? There are so many kids out there that need a good place to call home."
Mercedes sighed. "I thought about it, and I do want to adopt; I had always planned on doing it when Aiden got older. Like what my parents did with Cam. But for right now, this is what I want, what I need."
"What brought it on, this sudden need to have another kid now? Is it Aiden starting kindergarten," Sam asked, letting his eyes wander to the front to check if the boys were still walking along the path. "So you might still adopt in the future? That's cool." Then, remembering how Mercedes started the conversation, he circled back to that. "Have you looked at donors already?"
Mercedes chewed her bottom lip. "Honestly, it's been in the back of my mind for a while. We always..." She sighed. "The plan before Aiden... the plan was when he was three we would give him a sibling. When he was 8, we would adopt at least one child that way he could understand and help his sibling understand." She looked at Sam but then back to the boys. "I have felt so guilty for so long about moving on, but it's time to stop feeling guilty and start living again...love may or may not be in my future again, but at least I can have my family." She nodded. "Yeah, I could use some help, though."
Sam nodded in understanding. "Life can throw you a ton of curveballs along the way," he said. "I didn't really know Aiden, but I'm sure that he would have wanted you to be happy in the end. And if this is the way to do that, he'd totally understand that you're moving on. And still, kinda keep with the plans you two made when it comes to kids." Sam slightly tilted his head to the side as he looked at Mercedes. "What kinda help?"
Mercedes chewed her bottom lip. "He was a lot like you if I'm honest. Not as funny; he couldn't do impressions to save his life." She glanced at Aiden.  "I know he would; I'm just sad about it. His parents didn't accept me, and so they didn't accept Aiden, and he will miss out on knowing that half of his family, he deserves to have us here." She stopped talking, not wanting to make things awkward if Sam was just being nice and not really wanted to talk about him. "It's overwhelming trying to find a donor."
"So he was ruggedly handsome, got it," Sam joked, trying to lighten the mood somewhat. "You know, it's their loss. Yeah, Aiden's missing out on knowing that part of his family, but they won't get to see what a great kid Aiden fathered. And they're missing out on getting to know their grandson. Maybe they'll come around one day when they realize what they are missing." Sam told Mercedes. "I bet it is. Especially if the donor wants to stay anonymous and they only let you know the basics."
"Oh, for sure!" She laughed. "So handsome." She sighed. "I know you are right, and I know that he is gonna ask, and eventually I will have to tell him the truth; it's just...sad." She looked at Sam, grateful that he let her talk about Aiden; it had been a while since she had been able to do that. She nodded. "All of them want to stay anonymous, which does suck, but at least Aiden won't wonder why the baby gets a dad, and he doesn't..."
As Sam listened to Mercedes, he couldn't help the confused look that washed over his face. "The baby gets a dad, and he doesn't...? That doesn't make any sense. Aiden has a dad, and he knows that. And the baby kinda will have a dad in the same way... I mean, the baby wouldn't know their dad, won't even have a picture of the dude. But, at least Aiden knows who his dad is and what he looked like."
Mercedes shook her head. "That came out wrong. I mean, if the donor wasn't anonymous and wanted to be in the baby's life, there is no way to guarantee that he would want to be in Aiden's life. And at this age, Aiden might wonder why the baby's dad is around, and his isn't. At least this way, all they know is me." She sighed. "I am sorry, I am just trying to make sense of all this, and I am afraid I am not making sense at all."
"Not really, no," Sam admitted, sounding as confused as he was feeling. "Do you want to know who the donor is, and you want them in not only the kid's life but also Aiden and yours, or do you want them to be anonymous? I think that's what you need to figure out first. And go from there. If you want to have a donor that is involved or at least one that you know, then go look for one that also wants that and wants to be in Aiden's life."
Mercedes watched the boys for a long moment, laughing and playing with Banner. "I can't be selfish, Sam. I am the one who wants this baby; I don't know any man who will gladly give me his sperm and want to not only be a father to our child but be one to Aiden, that would be like making this man have an instant family which isn't fair to him. It's not fair to want more than what I am supposed to get."
"So you want another kid, but you also want the whole family thing with the donor?" Sam asked. "You're not selfish; you just need to be clear upfront with whoever you end up asking. Because it sounds to me like you don't really want your donor to be an anonymous one."
She laughed. "I want the family, I want Aiden to have a dad, I want the new baby to have one, and I want a partner, so I don't have to do this alone." She looked at Sam seriously. "That being said, unless I find someone who wants to be with me, I am not gonna get the whole family vibe. Like this, this would be perfect." She gestured around the trail. "But it's not happening.  So If all I can get out of this is a baby, then that is what I will take." She wanted more than anything for days like this, family walking together laughing; it would be easy to hold Sam's hand and pretend,  but she wouldn't.
Sam scraped his teeth over his bottom lip, not sure how to react to all Mercedes just said. "I'm sure you'll meet someone that wants to be with you for all the right reasons one day, but yeah, that will take time. And if you really want a baby now, then a donor is your best option."
She sighed. "Yeah." She glanced at Aiden. "I may not be able to get everything I want, but I can do this. But you have to help me pick a donor; I could use the help."
"Who says you won't be able to get everything you want? Yeah, it will take time to find someone that wants to be with you and give you that family you so want, but in the end, that's the same for everybody that's looking for someone to spend their life with." Sam nodded. "I can totally do that. Set aside the ones that sound interesting to you, and I can look over whatever information you have about them."
She shrugged. "I am just not gonna focus on that. And focus on the things I am in control of. Looking for someone to spend your life with is too much a gamble." Especially when the only candidate in your life friend-zoned you. She thought to herself. She gave him a soft smile. "Thanks, Sam. I really appreciate that."
Sam looked at her, a frown on his face. "Never say never, love, find a way to sneak up on ya when you least expect it." He spotted the clearing he had in mind for their picnic and sharply whistled to get Banner's attention. "Break time," Sam called out to the boys. "So are you going for an anonymous donor, or do you have people in mind you might want to ask, so you at least know the person?"
She watched the boys running to keep up with Banner as they ran back to her and Sam.  She didn't say anything because if it happened, great! If not, then she wouldn't get her hopes up. "I don't know. I mean, it's not like I can ask someone like you to be my baby daddy. That would make for an awkward conversation, and I would say we have had enough awkward times." Her mind went to when she tried to kiss him a few years back, and he firmly placed her in the friendzone.
"Why not? If you can't even ask one of your best friends something like that, who else would you ask. I'd need some time to seriously think about it and talk to Even and my folks if it ever came up because it's not a decision to take lightly tho." Especially since he hasn't even thought about having kids himself. Sam shrugged when Mercedes mentioned them having awkward times. He had a feeling that she meant the time when he friend-zoned her. Right when most people in town were convinced that they would end up together.  Sam friend-zoned Mercedes because he couldn't give her what she wanted. He didn't feel the same as she did.  "We managed to stay friends through it all, didn't we? And that's what matters most."
Mercedes spread out the blanket and sat down. "Sam, I wouldn't ask you that because I have never even heard you mention kids. Though you are great with them. I wouldn't ask you something this big and have you feel obligated to say yes." She sighed, wanting so much to push all her feelings for Sam away, but some lingered for sure.  "Yeah, we remained friends, and I wouldn't want to lose that."
"Who says I'd feel obligated to say yes? I just told you that I would have to think about it and talk to my folks and Even about it before making any decision. So don't say I'd only say yes because I feel obligated to help out a friend." Sam sighed softly, letting his fingers run through his hair before he looked at Mercedes. "Look, this maybe isn't the time to talk about it; I mean, the boys are almost within hearing distance. If you want my help to find a suitable anonymous donor, I'm here for you. And it's up to you to make up your mind which of your friends you want to ask if you want the donor to be someone you know and who can maybe play a role in the baby's life. I think any of your friends would ask for time to think about things before agreeing to become your donor. It's not something you should rush into; that's all I'm saying. "
Mercedes nodded. "I know you better than that, Sam. I am just. I just wanted to get that out there. But you are right, how about we just table this, for now, you really have given me a lot to think about. And I do appreciate it." She watched as the boys came close. "For now, let's enjoy this beautiful day, which, thank you for doing this."
"If you really did know me better than that, then you'd know not to put words in my mouth or assume that I'd react one way or the other. You know I hate that." He gave her a slight smile. "No problem, it's my pleasure. I like spending time with you and Aiden and, of course, James as well."
She didn't look at him, sometimes she just said what she was thinking, it happened, but it was no point in dwelling on it. She nodded. "We like spending time with you and Banner, though pretty sure Banner is coming out on top right now."
"as usual, feeling the love," Sam chuckled as Banner sat in front of him. "I've got you, buddy," he said, opening one of Banner's backpacks and taking out some food and water for the dog. "It's a shame the weather is getting colder; else, we could do this more often."
Mercedes laughed, grabbing the wipes out for the boys to wipe their hands. "He's a dog, but trust when it's time to hear a story, they choose you." She nodded, looking around. "I know, but maybe there is some indoor thing we can do."
"We can always look into that climbing wall thing Billy is setting up," Sam suggested.
Mercedes smiled. "You know, Billy was saying he could set it up for Aiden's party; maybe we can check it out to see if it is something A and J like." She said, handing the boys their lunches. She reached in her bag and handed Sam his. "Made your favorite Sandwich and got your chips too."
"Yeah, we can do that.' Sam took the sandwich from Mercedes, setting it aside for a bit. "Thanks."
She looked at him. "Not hungry?"
"Uhh, oh no, I'll eat in a bit. Want something to drink first." Sam replied, digging up the bottle of water he brought with him.
She nodded, watching the boys laughing and whispering. She was glad James and Aiden got on so well; it would have sucked had they not. And it just made her want to give him some kind of sibling in the future.
Sam was actually enjoying the small hike and watching the boys play. It reminded him of the days where it was just Even and him running around all over their grandparent's farm. He finally took a bite from the sandwich. "This is good."
Mercedes offered him a small smile as she ate her own sandwich. "I know the boys are going to sleep very well tonight!"
"That's the outdoor air for ya; it totally has a relaxing effect," Sam told her. "Plus, by the time we're back, they'll have walked at least 3 miles. It's why I brought Banner along. If they get too tired, they can always climb on his back, and he'll walk them home."
She smiled. "I spent so much time on buses and in venues now I like to be outside as much as I can. Plus, it's a great way to keep Aiden entertained." At his words, she looked to Banner relaxing on the ground. "Thanks for that. I am sure at least one of them will need it."
"and that's why hiking would be a good hobby to have," Sam told her. He chuckled softly as his eyes took in Banner. "He loves helping; it's like in his DNA or something."
Mercedes smiled. Staring at the scene before her. This was what she wanted; she knew Sam just saw her as his friend. And she was okay with that on most days... But moments like these, she wished for more. Wished she could lean on him watching the boys talk and chat. Hold his hand. And that brought a look of sadness on her face for the briefest of moments.

“Nice To Meet You Too”-Connor Murphy X Reader (Soulmate AU)
Word Count: 4,164
A/N: Hey everyone! It’s been a hot minute but here’s my second fic, I made the reader gender neutral so more people could enjoy it! Thank you to everyone who reads this and everyone who read my last fic, it is very much appreciated! Hope you have an amazing day! :)
Everyone was born with a tattoo on their inner left wrist with the first words their soulmate would ever say to them. These tattoos would disappear after the words had been said. Some people just had a simple “Hello!”s or “Excuse me!”s and nothing else, others had things such as totals from various purchases and what not but you were lucky, yours included your soulmate’s name. It read, “Uh, I’m Connor, nice to meet you too.” Connor. It was a lovely name but there were also a lot of people named Connor which led to you constantly getting your hopes up.  You always went out of your way to introduce yourself to people named Connor and probably looked a little insane while doing so.  A few of your friends had met their soulmates in elementary school but as high school went on more and more people were meeting their partners for life while you were still alone. You became a little discouraged but knew that yours was out there and you were going to meet them eventually. Then came some of the best and worst news of your life. You were moving out of state at the end of junior year a couple of weeks after school got out. You were partially overjoyed because you had already interacted with every single Connor in your area but it also meant you were leaving your home of almost eighteen years. Your junior year went by faster than you would have liked and the time came to say goodbye to your childhood best friend Quinn. They came over to help your family pack as they were like the second child your parents never had and once the last box was put into the U-HAUL truck the two of you broke down crying and gave one another the biggest hug.
Once the breakdown was finished you gave each other one last tear-filled smile before you got into the front seat of your parents’ car and pulled out of the driveway of your childhood home. As you were sitting in the passenger seat with your earbuds in you though of Quinn and how you met. The two of you were in the same preschool, on the first day during playtime you were sitting alone and they came up and declared you two were going to be best friends for forever and the rest was history. You were indeed best friends and were almost never seen without the other. You soon became sad so decided to try and think of something else. You knew Quinn was going to be okay because they had recently met their soulmate so they weren’t going to be alone during this transition period for the two of you. You, on the other hand, were not so sure how you were going to cope. Sure facetime was a thing that existed but it definitely wasn’t the same as Quinn just busting into your house at random times and your parents just being okay with it. You slowly fell into a dreamless sleep for the majority of the rest of the trip.
When you woke up again your mom informed you that you were just about two hours from your new home. You got out at the gas station you were currently stopped at and went to the bathroom and got a few snacks for you and your mom to share. You started to stare out the window and soon your thoughts went to your soulmate, Connor. You hoped that you were going to get to meet him soon as this was currently the only thing keeping you going. You finally arrived at your new house about an hour before sunset. You and your parents began to unload everything from the U-HAUL truck. It took a lot longer without Quinn and you ended up having to finish in the dark. While your dad was returning the truck you and your mom decided to unpack the necessities then leave the rest for tomorrow. When your dad came back the three of you decided to get something to eat and just drive around the town.
You got food from Mcdonalds and took in the sights of your new home. It was a nice town, not too big or small, it looked like there were a lot of things to do and places to eat. The last stop on your sightseeing tour was the town’s high school. It looked a lot bigger than your previous school and you thought that building was hard to navigate so you could tell this was going to be a nightmare. On your way home you noticed a park right by your house. You could tell just by looking at it that it would be the perfect place to walk to at 3 AM when you couldn't fall asleep and just wanted to forget about all your troubles. Once you got home you found the box with your sleeping bag and pillow in it and found your new room. You set up your sleeping bag in your empty room, your furniture wasn’t supposed to arrive for a few days so you were stuck sleeping on the floor for the time being. You stared up at the textured ceiling and tried to fall asleep because you knew tomorrow was going to be filled with loads of unpacking but for some reason, you just couldn’t so you were going to call Quinn to just check in but decided against it since you remembered they were hanging out with their soulmate tonight. So you did what you always did when Quinn wasn’t available, imagine what your soulmate looked like. You really didn’t care what ‘Connor’ looked like it was just fun to try and put a face to a name. Slowly you fell into a dreamless sleep.
Your mother came into your room at about 8:30 so you could start unpacking. You finished the living room, kitchen, and bathroom before lunchtime.  You finished doing the rest of your house just before dinner time. You stood in your room, it was painted a nice light grey and you had hung up some of your posters and pictures and strung up your lights which made you feel more at home. Your dad called upstairs to tell you that he had picked up dinner on his way home from work. While the three of you were eating he talked about his new job, he was a lawyer and had gotten an amazing opportunity at a pretty well-known law firm, which is why you guys moved. He told you about his new office and some dick named Larry he worked with. Once dinner was finished the three of you talked for a couple of hours about how everyone was feeling about the move, as the conversation was winding down you felt yourself growing tired, you bid your parents goodnight went upstairs to bed. Thoughts of how you were going to arrange your room filled your head, the furniture was supposed to arrive the next afternoon and you couldn’t wait to finally finish setting up your room. That night you had a weird beauty and the beast-esque dream filled with talking furniture.
The furniture truck arrived around 12:30 that afternoon and you finished setting up your room at about 3, you decided to facetime Quinn to show them your new room. They helped you decide where to put a couple small things then after that the two of you just caught up, they told you all about how amazing their soulmate was and you couldn’t help but feel a small pang of jealousy, they asked about ‘Connor’ and you told them you hadn’t found him yet. You lied and told them your mom was calling so you could stop talking about soulmates cause it was making you upset.  After you got off the phone you and your mom decided to get lunch at a locally owned diner which made you feel a lot better about not finding Connor yet, before you went home you stopped at the grocery store and picked up somethings so you could begin making food in your own kitchen. Once you got home you decided to take a nap until dinner was ready. You woke up around 5:15 and saw that Quinn had sent you a message so you responded and told them about your lunch, just as you hit send on your message you heard your dad come in and your mom called up to you to tell you dinner was ready. Dinner was good and your dad said work was good which made you feel like maybe this move was a good thing.
The next morning your mom barged into your room and told you to get up and get ready to go tour your new school. You begrudgingly got up and dressed, you then went downstairs to meet your mom. The two of you headed out to her car and on the way put you grabbed some fruit so you wouldn’t be cranky during the tour. Once you arrived and found the main office you met your principal and she gave you your schedule and then introduced you to your tour guide, Alana Beck. She was very pretty and you could tell she was smart just by looking at her. Once your principal set you loose so the tour could actually begin Alana became much more talkative, not in a bad way, of course, it was nice to not have to worry about keeping the conversation going. As the tour progressed you felt your anxiety melting away, the building actually wasn’t that hard to navigate and your classes were easy enough to find. You and Alana found your way back to the principal’s office but before you went in Alana gave you her number that way if you had any questions about anything you could always text her. It was nice to know you already knew someone at school and wouldn’t be going in with a completely clean slate. You went into the office and said good-bye to Alana and your new principal. You walked out of that building feeling oddly calm. You and your mom went out to breakfast and you got one of your favorite diner foods. Your mom dropped you off at home after breakfast because she had to go to her first day at her new job.
You decided to walk down to that little park you saw on your drive around the town. You put in your earbuds and started walking. It took a little while for you to find it but you did eventually. When you arrived you saw that there was another person there. They were sitting on the swingset. You decided to walk around the block to try and avoid human contact at all costs. When you looped back around to the park you saw the tall figure still sitting on a swing. You were tempted to take another lap around the block but there was a feeling in your gut telling you not to. So you didn’t. You decided to just sit on the farthest swing from the person. You decided to sneak a peek. They had wavy brown hair that reached their shoulders and were wearing all black, just like you. You chuckled to yourself, maybe a little too loudly cause the person turned and looked at you. FUCK! FUCK, FUCK, FUCK! Why did I have to fucking do that! It wasn’t even that funny!” you thought to yourself. They continued to look at you. “Wow, they’re pretty. WAIT, not the time you idiot! Holy shit what do I do? Should I say something?! I should say something. Right?” before you could even contemplate what to do you felt yourself opening your mouth and saying “Sorry, I just noticed we’re both wearing black and thought it was kinda funny. Anyways, I’m Y/N. Nice to meet you.”, you awkwardly stuck your hand out for them to shake.
They hesitantly took it and said, “Uh, I’m Connor, nice to meet you too.” You swore you died right then and there, you could not believe your ears. The two of you just realized what happened and said “Holy shit” in perfect unison.
“HOLY SHIT!” you squealed. You ran over to Connor and gave him a gigantic hug, you could tell you scared him with this sudden physical contact but eventually hugged back just as tight as you. At some point, you had started crying out of pure happiness because OH MY GOSH you just met your soulmate! The two of you eventually pulled apart and you just looked at him and soaked in his beauty. You noticed that half of his left eye was a rich dark brown while the other half and eye were a light blue. You noticed how angular his face was and how nice his lips were.
“Soooooo,” he said in a very dragged out manner. “What do we do now?”
“I don’t know I’ve never met my soulmate before,” you say, hoping to lighten the tension. “I guess get to know each other if that’s cool with you.”
“Yeah sounds good. What do you want to know?”
“Why have I never seen you before?”
“I just moved here a couple of days ago with my parents. My dad got a good job opportunity at some law firm around here so we moved.”
“Wait is your last name L/N?”
“Yeah? How’d you know?” you asked, suddenly growing very aware of the fact you and Connor were alone in the park.
“Holy Shit, calm the fuck down. I’m not a creep I swear,” he said getting kind of angry with you, you guessed your internal freakout was showing on the outside. “My dad works at that law firm and mentioned something about a new hire.”
“Oh okay. Sorry for freaking out dude. It was just kinda weird that someone I just met knew my last name regardless if we were soulmates or not.” you said in a very sincere manner, you really didn’t want to mess up your relationship in the very beginning.
“It's all good, don't worry about it,” he says, tension leaving his body. “My last name is Murphy if you were wondering.”
“Well nice to finally meet you, Connor Murphy.”
“Nice to finally meet you too Y/N L/N.”
You and Connor sat in the park until dusk just talking about anything and everything. He told you about his family and how school was hell for him and you told him how anxious you felt moving here. Maybe it was because you were soulmates but the two of you just felt so comfortable around each other already. Before you left he gave you his phone number and you gave him a promise to text him. On the walk home, you felt as if you were walking on air. You quickly whipped out your phone and texted Quinn telling them all about Connor. They let you rant over text about him for most of your walk home, they were so happy for you. You decided to text Connor before you went into your house. As you were walking in the front door he texted you back and you had a gigantic dopey grin on your face. Your parents stopped talking as you walked into the living room, your mom asked, “What’s got you so happy?”
“Oh nothing,” you said over dramatically. “Just met my soulmate that’s all. No biggie,” you said shrugging your shoulders and biting your lip in an attempt to hold back your smile.
“Oh my gosh honey!” your mother said practically jumping over the couch to reach you. “When? How? Where? What does he look like?” she asked, barely breathing while doing so. You wanted to keep them in suspense for a little bit but decided against it as you didn’t want your mother bursting a blood vessel.
“Earlier today. After you dropped me off and went to work I decided to walk to that little park not that far from here and that's where I met him,” you said suddenly feeling shy about the whole thing, you weren't a fan of being bombarded with all these questions from your mother. Once you satisfied your mom with adequate answers you went up to your room and continued to text Connor. The two of you were planning your first date, well more like Connor was planning your first date because you didn’t know anything to do. Connor suggested getting dinner and seeing a movie in the town next to yours and you thought that was a lovely idea. The date was set for Saturday which was still a few days away from now lucky for you because it meant you had a couple of days to figure out your outfit and get advice from Quinn. You and Connor were texting for hours before you looked at the clock on your nightstand and realized that it was four in the morning, you bid Connor goodnight and went to bed with a stupid grin on your face.
When you woke up you immediately texted Quinn to tell them about your plans for this weekend. They were so happy for you and they agreed to help you pick out an outfit. You were on facetime for hours modeling different outfit choices before you picked one, it was casual but still looked like you were making an effort. Once the outfit situation was figured out you started talking about the actual date, you started freaking out a little bit because ‘oh my god’ what if he didn’t like you but Quinn was quick to reassure you that he was literally your soulmate and you two were meant to be together. You spent the next few days texting Connor and waiting for Saturday.
Finally, after much anticipation, Saturday arrived! You could barely sleep the previous night you were so excited. It was like the night before going on a big field trip in elementary school, you had your clothes laid out and made sure literally everything was perfect. You woke up early to get ready, you showered, did a face mask and painted your nails to kill time while waiting for Connor to pick you up. Once the time that was decided upon rolled around you saw a black truck pull up in front of your house. You didn’t even need the text saying he was here to know that it was Connor’s. You said goodbye to your parents and practically ran out to Connor’s truck. Once you reached it Connor told you to wait while he got out and opened the door for you with a blush on his face. He quickly went around to the driver's side and got in, he reached into the back seat and pulled out flowers which you found very sweet. “Ah so chivalry isn’t dead,” you said while laughing lightly.
“No it isn’t,” he said while smiling. The drive over was filled with the sound of a playlist Connor made, conversation was scarce as both of you were scared to mess this up. You pulled up to the restaurant and Connor quickly got out and opened the door for you again. You thanked him and fixed your disheveled outfit. The restaurant was a nice little diner with an ice cream place attached to it when you walked in Connor got the two of you a booth. The booth was in the back corner of the restaurant, the seats were a little worn down but still comfortable. Once the two of you got settled in, a nice middle-aged woman came over and got your drink orders, you guys looked over your menus and silently decided what you were going to get to eat. You decided you had enough of this awkward silence and started a conversation.
“Soooo, how was your day Connor?”
After that, the ice was broken and conversation between you two came naturally. You talked about things such as your favorite TV shows, movies, and books. The service was fast and soon after placing your order the food came and it was pretty good. Once your waitress dropped off the check at your booth Connor insisted on paying much to your dismay, after that two of you got some ice cream before heading to the movie theatre. This time Connor let you have the AUX Cord and you played some stuff from your favorite artist, he had only heard a couple of their songs so he asked you about them which resulted in you rambling about them for almost the entire 15-minute car ride to the movie theatre. Once you were done you had realized how long you’d been talking and started apologizing and blushing immensely. Connor only laughed and told you it was fine with a huge smile on his face, what he didn’t tell you is that he found it extremely cute. Once you arrived at the theatre you bought your tickets and headed in. Although you two just ate dinner you decide to get some stuff from the snack bar. After getting your snacks you found your theatre and settled into the somewhat uncomfy seats just in time for the previews to start. Neither of you were particularly interested in the movie but you still watched it nonetheless. About halfway through the movie Connor “smoothly” put his arm around your shoulders and you leaned your head into him. Now neither of you wanted the movie to end now but alas it had to, on your way out you grabbed Connor’s hand and didn’t let go until you had to to be able to get in the car but once you clicked your seat belts Connor reached across the center console and put his hand out for you to hold if you wanted to, and you wanted to. On the way home you talked about the movie then somehow you got on the topic of soulmate tattoos.
“Do you know how insane I went going out of my way to introduce myself to every single person named Connor?” you say while laughing. “I literally introduced myself to every single one of them in my old town and even the surrounding counties!”
“I’m sorry my parents named me something so basic I’ll be sure to scold them for it,” he says while pretending to be serious.
“I think I’ll have to fight them when I meet them!” you say still laughing. This is what cracks him and he begins to laugh with you.
“Oh my god please do!” he says with a gigantic smile on his face.
After that, the two of you calm down but still have dumb grins on your faces.
“How did you feel walking around with the stupid thing I said to you on your wrist for seventeen years?”
“It was comforting knowing my soulmate was an emo piece of shit like me,” he says with a grin.
“Hey! I’m not emo! I just happen to like the color black,” you say pouting.
“Okay whatever helps you sleep at night sunshine,” he says with an overdramatic eye roll. After that, the two of you fell into a comfortable silence which was nothing like the one on the ride over. Sooner than you would’ve liked Connor pulled up in front of your house.
 “Here we are”
“Yup,” you say, not wanting to get out just yet. “Thank you for tonight I had a really amazing time.”
“Of course,” he says, turning to look at you. Once he does so a small smile appears on his pretty face. You decided this would be a good note to leave on, you reluctantly let go of his hand and began to collect your things. You look at Connor and don’t know what possesses you but you give him a kiss on the cheek.
“I’ll text you tomorrow, okay?” you ask, your cheeks on fire from what you had just done.
“Mhm, sounds good,” he says, barely above a whisper. Face beat red, he puts his hand up to the place you had just kissed. “Good night Y/N.”
“Good night Connor,” you say while opening the door of his truck. You shut the door and smile at him and walk up to your front door. You wave at him to let him know you got in okay and as a final goodbye for the night. Your parents were out for the night so you didn’t have to deal with your mom’s bombardment of questions about the date until breakfast the following morning. You went upstairs and changed into your pajamas, still smiling. You texted Quinn and let them know how perfect the date went, making sure to let them know every single detail. That night you dreamed of Connor, your future together and how happy you were to meet him.

To Reclaim What was Ours, chp 26.5: Tooth and Claw
Tumblr media
A chapter of TRWWO that I was going to post but have been stuck on for weeks. I couldn’t write up a decent finish, but I liked the rest.
Summary: The Alliance prepares for Empress Vaylin’s assault on their base. Word Count: 1,399
“How long do you think this friendly-business with Arcann is gonna last?”
“Couldn’t say, captain,” Fai said, pulling out a wire on one of the terminals. “Taking everything into consideration? Probably another week, tops.”
Remi’vu snorted from across the way. “I dunno. Thexia about bit his head off the other day. Did you see that? Or hear about that?”
“Who didn’t?” Fai fiddled with the wire, attaching a device onto the open end. “She’s so loud that the people on the other end of the base can hear her.”
Remi’vu grinned in amusement, tapping away at keys upon the screen. He looked over his work then leaned over to see how Fai’s progress was coming along. SCORPIO had installed “upgrades” a number of months ago and they were still finding remnants of her work in the Gravestone. Remnants that weren’t particularly good—or suspicious altogether. When the droid disappeared, Altrethir decided that all of the GEMINI upgrades should be purged as a matter of precaution.
Now, Remi’vu and his team worked on rerouting the upgrades, working with their base lines of code but removing anything that could lead back to the GEMINI droids. Still, it wasn’t exactly a simple matter.
Remi’vu felt an electric spark sting his hand and he recoiled, “Ow-! Fuck, I thought you turned this damn terminal off?”
    “I did.”
He cocked a brow. But before he could inquire further, the bridge’s comm terminal beeped. He pushed himself to his feet and jogged over, clicking it on, “Commander?”
“Tell your tech team to finish their upgrades,” said Altrethir from the other end of the call.
“They’ve, uh... I think they’ve still got a lot to go. Why?”
Fai had stood and made her way over. Another signal started to beep: The panel that indicated a fleet emerging out of hyperspace.
And when Remi’vu looked up, he saw the mass of the Eternal Fleet zoom into view.
“Oh, no,” he breathed, eyes wide as a chill ran down his spine.
“Captain, hold your position. Inform your team that the Fleet has arrived and order them to continue their work. I am sending reinforcements to protect the Gravestone, but do not engage in orbital combat.”
    “Commander-?”
“She is planning to launch a ground assault. Our shields around the base will hold and Vaylin will want to meet Thexia and I personally.”
    “You’re absolutely sure?”
“I am.” Altrethir paused. “Be listening for my directions; I will keep you in contact.”
“Okay,” Remi’vu said and the call ended. He exhaled a breath he didn’t realize he was even holding, then held down a button to broadcast his announcement throughout the ship. “A’right, we’ve got company! Need everyone to get a move on so we can finish those upgrades ASAP!”
.
There was hardly time for discussion, and even less time for arguments.
But Altrethir’s prediction had been correct; Vaylin began her ground assault and the Alliance was better prepared thanks to his quick thinking.
Still, the Empress’ skytroopers managed to mow down Alliance forces. And what they’d succeeded in creating were three separate, clear paths—all of which would eventually lead toward the heart of the base.
Thexia had taken Lana and a group of Sith to fend off the northern woods and they had their own hands full from that. Vaylin’s forces were unrelenting, unlimited. They had their work cut out for them.
Altrethir remained in the war room, monitoring activity from different screens and comm devices. He squinted as he saw flashing dots upon the map, indicating where enemies were striking. He thumbed his chin and bit the inside of his cheek.
He waited, but at the cost of many dedicated, loyal lives.
Altrethir could hear blasterfire, lightsabers tearing through metal, and screams of the soldiers who perished in battle all across the comms. More lights flashed on the screen before him—and he heard Theron shouting something at him, but it took him a moment to truly process what he said.
And he had a thought: Vaylin wasn’t searching for him, nor for Thexia. She was trying to lure them out by overwhelming every opening she could.
Her forces that pushed through Alliance defenses didn’t split up into search parties; they secured footholds while others proceeded further, but they never bothered to scout the areas.
“Theron,” Altrethir called, “patch me through to Vaylin’s flagship.”
Altrethir moved in front of the holocamera as Theron set up the call, clenching his jaw as he took a breath. A moment passed, and then another, as if the call was being filtered and redirected. When the other line picked up, he was greeted by the face of Empress Vaylin.
“Begging for your lives already?” she said, her tone holding mockery.
“Enough time has been wasted,” Altrethir said coolly. “Come. I shall transmit coordinates, and there we shall meet face-to-face.”
“I’m not stupid,” she hissed. “That is a trap if ever I heard one.”
“You’ve already slain plenty of my men. Do you fear such a small number of soldiers? That their mere count may rival your own power?”
She sneered. “No. Bring mother and my brother, too. I’ll show you exactly what I’m capable of.”
    Vaylin ended the call.
“You can’t be serious,” Theron said, stepping beside Altrethir. “She’ll bring a thousand more skytroopers and her Fleet on you.”
“I’ve put her abilities into question; she feels as though she needs to prove herself. She will face Thexia and I alone,” Altrethir turned, facing Theron. “Envy was Arcann’s downfall; pride will be Vaylin’s.”
“I wish I could say that I believed that, but I can’t. I can’t.” Theron’s voice dropped lower and he felt his throat tighten. “You were so sure and confident when you went off to fight Arcann. But this-.”
“-Will be different. The odds are in our favor.”
    “You said that last time.”
“Senya and Arcann fight with us; they are factors that we lacked before.”
“And what if Arcann suddenly decides he wants the throne back?”
“He won’t.” A pause. “It is unlikely. But if he does, Valkorion will not allow him to reclaim it.”
Theron swallowed dryly. And as their eyes met, Altrethir drank in all of his feelings. He could feel his worry, anxiety and uncertainty. He knew that his lover didn’t doubt his abilities nor his orders, but he was worried about what Vaylin could do.
Altrethir’s loss against Arcann put him into an unconscious state for days; Theron didn’t want to go through that pain again. He didn’t want to lose him.
Though the alarms blared and emergency lights flashed, they were only focused on one another. Altrethir took Theron's hand and pulled him forward, embracing him securely. And he felt the man’s fingers digging into his back to hold him taught. The drum of his heartbeat pounded in his ears and he felt it thud against Theron’s chest.
Then they straightened, and Theron took Altrethir’s face in both his hands to tug him down, kissing him firmly.
“I’m coming with you,” Theron said after breaking their kiss.
Altrethir wanted to say no. He wanted him to stay where he knew he’d be safe. But something in his gut told him that Theron would go with him regardless of orders. Altrethir nodded after a moment of hesitation, “Very well. But you will remain at a distance. I won’t risk Vaylin harming you.”
    “Your terms are acceptable, Commander.”
.
An explosion blew chunks of dirt and rock from the ground. Thexia nearly stumbled but quickly regained her balance, then she leapt further into the pack of skytroopers to slice through the rocket launcher.
Sweat dripped off her brow as strands of her burgundy hair clung to her face. Stars, they just kept coming.
She gave into a throaty shout as she whipped around, swinging the weight of her blades onto a flanking trooper. In a flurry of attacks, she cut through more. The sound of blasterfire rang behind her and she turned—and saw an ally deflecting the shots that would’ve otherwise hit her.
    “Commander.”
    “Lana,” Thexia said.
“New orders from Lord Valran,” Lana pulled Thexia aside after the wave of troopers had been significantly thinned. “We are to rendezvous at these coordinates. Vaylin is awaiting us.”
“The coward finally shows herself. You and Jaesa continue to defend these borders with our forces.” She paused, lowering her voice, “And don’t let Major Quinn come after me.”
    “Understood, Commander.”

Quinn Hughes | Kid
Tumblr media
It's been a couple years yet he still thought about this one girl he once dated. She was everything he wanted in a woman, her looks was just a bonus. She was absolutely breathtaking and he doesn’t know how she fell for him, he was just an average looking guy. Many asked him if she was just with him for his money but at the time, he wasn’t even playing for money so he immediately turned down that question. Having met the first day of classes at the University of Michigan, they were together for about a year until she just suddenly broke up with him and moved back home to Quebec. He didn’t understand why she did it until a week after she left when he finally found the letter she had left him in one of his notebooks when he got home. She had written that she didn’t deserve him and that his best friend, Madison, was more closer to him and that she showed more signs of being the one for him. He couldn’t believe what he was reading but he continued on until he got to a part that had him scrambling for his phone to call her. Phone in hand, he remembered the moment that apparently caused her to leave and didn’t remember using protection. He thought for a moment to himself that If he did get into contact with her, what would he say? She was going to have his baby but they were young, he didn’t know what to do. His family was staying in Toronto at that moment in time but knew they were coming back soon to the house in Michigan because he was given a week off from school to spend some time at home, he just had to wait for them.
At the time, he didn’t know what to do but did manage to get a hold of Y/N at the moment but all she told him to just live his life. She hung up after she said that, he let her because he didn’t know what to say. He didn’t tell anyone and it's been eating at him ever since. It's been maybe 3 or 4 years and he is just now deciding to tell someone and his mother was the first person he wanted to tell before he left for training camp.
Ellen Hughes had gone grocery shopping because she had three boys under her roof so Quinn had to wait until she got back. He was so anxious, he was shaking in his seat at the kitchen table, he went over what he wanted to say in his head about a thousands times all while he looked at the photo he saved from Instagram, a photo of his son he found on Y/N’s account. After 30 minutes of waiting, his mother finally got back home. “Can someone come help me with the groceries!” she called out into the house, all three of her sons coming to help. Another 30 minutes later, Quinn finally takes the chance to talk to his mother once everyone has left the kitchen “Mom, I need to tell you something very important”. He took a deep breathe after stating that. Ellen, looking him in the eye, motions towards the table while taking a seat herself.
Silence filled the room for a few minutes until Quinn took in a deep breath and cleared his throat “I don’t know how or where to begin…..” he paused, “Just start when you can, I can tell its eating you alive” his mother’s soft words comforted him along with the hand on his that is placed on the table. He decides to just blurt it out “I am a dad” he says with hesitation, but he has a smile on his face. Ellen is speechless, which was understandable; her oldest baby just told her he had his own baby “How?......when?......Quinn what?...”. He gave his mother a couple minutes to process what he said a little more before saying something. “I believe it was the same year I began playing for the Uni. I met a girl at one of the parties there. Her cousin was the host, their uncle owned the building and let them have a party. She looked so beautiful, I couldn’t contain myself, I had to get to know her. I quickly fell in love with her and we dated for a year, we did do some things…….I won’t say it but you know what I mean” Quinn sheepishly smiled to which his mother returned, not knowing what to say to that, Quinn continued “I recently found out from Instagram that they moved to somewhere in Vancouver, so I was thinking of asking to meet up with her to talk. What do you think I should do?”.
His mother had some questions that she needed to be answered before helping him “what did she tell you? How did you find out exactly?” Quinn took a couple seconds to think of an answer “she just told me it was best that we break up, she didn’t tell me she was pregnant, she just said we have to break up and then she moved back home. I found out through a letter that she had written to me and hid in my dorm, that I should live my life without the stress of being a young dad or a dad so soon”. Now that was a lot to think about, what does she say to her son with this situation? Ellen takes a good long look at Quinn, her oldest son, while he looks from the kitchen table to her eyes and back. She knows he is a good boy and wants to do what’s best, “how long ago was this again? Like years?” That's a good question that makes Quinn think hard “Maybe 3 or 4 years?” she nods her head in acknowledgement. One last question is left to ask and answer “Boy or girl?”. Quinn smiles “It's a boy named Gabriel”. Ellen gave him a questionable look at the name “she is from Quebec that’s why the sounds french so i'm guessing he was born in Quebec as well” he explained. Ok, now what? Ellen decided to say what she needed to be said “I think…...you should meet up with her, if she wants, and from what I understand you want to be in his life……” Quinn nods his head immediately “and hers too, I loved her from the moment I set my eyes on her and she has not left my mind since but we only dated for a year” Ellen smiled and recalled that moment “is that why you came home that summer sad?” Quinn nods his head “Well that answers it then. She sounds to be nice….I don’t see what’s wrong with wanting to meet up and talk” Quinn smiled and nodded his head.
It took a couple days to convince Y/N to meet up and talk, talk about their future as Quinn still loved her, seeming having expressed that fact multiple times but Y/N’s defensive walls only broke down when Quinn mentioned wanting to be in his son’s life and help raise him. Quinn completely understood, she was a single mother that changed her whole life for this little boy who was the most important thing and everything she did, every decision, was for him. She didn’t have to do everything on her own and that was one of the first things Quinn addressed when they met up in Vancouver, having come back a month earlier before training camp started so that he’d have more time to adjust to family life.
Quinn was the first to arrive at the place they agreed to meet, a Tim Hortons located just 20 minute drive away from the Rogers Arena. He picked and sat at a table that was close to the back for some privacy away from the other customers, he watched people come in and out from the entrance until this absolute angel walked through the doors. He couldn’t help but smile because she was as beautiful as the last time he saw her in person, he just had a couple of more minutes of taking in her beauty as she looked around looking for him with her bright hazel eyes that seemed to sparkle as the light hit them at the perfect angle. When their eyes finally met, it was a cliche moment where time seemed to have stopped and everyone around just disappeared and it was just them two. Of course that was quickly broken when Y/N started walking to where Quinn sat, he didn’t know what to do, does he stand up to hug her? Shake her hand? What? In Quinn fashion……...he just continued to watch as she took a seat in front of him, only breaking eye contact to concentrate to push the cup of hot chocolate he had ordered for her before he had sat down knowing it was her favorite thing to order at Timmies. She accepted it with a soft smile “you remembered” she softly praised, Quinn sheepishly smiled back “saw it in a couple of your posts on instagram too” he admitted with a shrug of his shoulders as she laughed.
They talked about everything that needed to be talked about, everything that needed to be said right then and there, Quinn was not mad at Y/N for doing what she did and saw the sigh of relief leave her shoulders when he said that. They had agreed to take things slow, see how things turn out but it didn’t feel like anything changed, they still felt comfortable in each other's presence.
Quinn is very thankful for what life has given him, a couple years has passed since then and everything has gone smoothly so far. A smile is permanently stuck on his face and it began the moment they agreed to try things again in that Tim Hortons. All these thoughts cross his mind once in awhile and he is completely okay with that but he gets brought back to reality by the sound of a goal horn going off and the sound of his wife Y/N cheering and clapping next to him along with the little two year old girl sat in her daddy’s lap clapping as well. They were currently at the local ice rink for Gabriel’s game, it was an early one but he is very lucky to have been given the day off to come watch his son play. He peers down at the ice to see his 9 year old son pointing at him in celebration of his goal he just scored as he huddles around his teammates, he seems to do that every time Quinn comes to watch him because it was rare for him to be able to catch a game. Quinn of course still gets a little emotional every time his son scores because he always seems to dedicate all the goals he’s scored to his parents, Y/N still cries a little too, which they still don’t understand why he does that but are still thankful to have such a happy kid to call theirs.
*****Hope y’all like this imagine............******

Road Trip - John “Maz” Mazetti
a/n: i had this idea for another character but i haven’t written for him in a while, and i really wanted to write something for maz, so i just switched it :) also this is useless in posting bc my maz fics aren’t popular
Tumblr media
•••
When your brother suggested a road trip to Oregon to the lake house that your family owns, you were excited and eager to go. But when he told you that his teammate Maz would be going, you weren’t as excited as you were.
See, you and Maz don’t get along very well.
There’s just something with both of your personalities that don’t mesh well, and you always end up bickering. Which seems weird because Maz is always a sweet guy with everyone he meets; you two even got along great when you first met, but over time, things went bad.
So the thought of being stuck in a car with him for two days, along with the week that you spend at the house, almost made you back out of the trip. But, Vinnie wanted you to come; Zapata and his girlfriend were tagging along, as well as Vinnie’s girlfriend, who you were good friends with.
The drive began, and of course, you and John were already fighting. It was stupid little things, like he wasn’t giving you enough room, you were playing your music too loud, you were shifting around too much. The others were already annoyed.
Two days later, after two hotel stops, a lot of fighting, and exhausted sighs from the four others, you finally made it to the lake house. It was just as beautiful as you remember it, the lake was bright blue and the mountains behind it were breathtaking, the sun setting and making it even more picture-esque.
“Shit man, this place is fucking beautiful,” Chris says as he steps out of the van. He goes to the doc jutting out into the lake and takes in the view, his girlfriend, Julia, coming up behind him.
You take this opportunity to grab your luggage from the extra trailer on the back and head inside to get a first pick on a room. You go straight to the room that you used to use and set your stuff down, beginning to unpack. The room had a perfect view of the lake, which is why you love it.
“Hey,” Vinnie says, stepping into the room. The look on his face tells you that something’s wrong.
“What is it?” You sigh, taking a seat on your bed. Vinnie rubs his hands together for a moment.
“There’s only three rooms, so you’re gonna have to room with Maz,” he delicately tells you. Your eyes widen in shock, not wanting to believe him.
“What? Why can’t you or Zapata room with him and I room with Julia or Quinn?”
“Because Quinn and I want to spend some time together, and so do Chris and Julia.”
“Fucking fifth wheel,” you mumble, crossing your arms. Vinnie chuckles and takes a seat next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.
“I’m sorry. But what did you expect? Going on a trip with two couples, we’re going to want to be with each other, especially after we had to separate into two different rooms along the trip at hotels.”
“Yeah, yeah, I get it. I guess it’s fine. But there’s only one bed…” You groan loudly when you put everything together. Maz was going to have to sleep in the same bed...with you...for an entire week.
“Yeah...good luck with that!” Vinnie shouts, jumping up and darting out of the room before you can say anything else. You lay back on the bed and close your eyes, wishing that the week would go by quick.
As you were enjoying the silence, Maz walks into the room, his bags dragging behind him. Just seeing him pisses you off, so you grab a pillow from the bed and an extra blanket from the closet.
“You take the bed, I’m not about to sleep next to you for a week. I’ll sleep on the couch,” you mutter as you walk past him, giving him a side glance. “But I’m keeping my stuff in here.” He scoffs and doesn’t say anything.
Walking into the living room, you see the four others gathered in the kitchen, talking quietly. They all shut up as soon as you walk in, letting you know that you were the one they were talking about.
“I know you guys are pissed with me and Maz. Sorry that we can’t seem to get along. I’ll try to ignore him the best I can,” you mumble, plopping on the couch. Quinn walks over and sits next to you, rubbing your back comfortingly.
“Try talking with him sometime this week and work out your differences. We were planning on going to get some groceries tomorrow morning, so you can try then? I’m not sure if John wants to come.”
“I’ll try. It’s not going to end pretty, though,” you chuckle. She sighs and stands, going back over to your brother.
“Well, we’re gonna turn in for the night,” Vinnie announces as he and Quinn disappear into their room, Chris and Julia following shortly after.
You turn the tv on and gaze outside, noticing that dark storm clouds were slowly rolling over the sky and the wind was starting to pick up. You begin to watch some film that you’ve seen many times until you eventually fall asleep in the dark room.
In the middle of the night, you are awoken by a loud boom of thunder, which almost sends you falling off the couch. You’re able to catch yourself and sit up to see that it’s storming hard outside. The bad thing is that the entire wall looking out to the lake was basically all windows. Meaning it was most likely not as sturdy.
You knew that they weren’t going to break, but the thought was there. The wind was getting stronger by the second and the trees were rustling a lot; they began to brush against the windows, making it sound even worse.
Lightning was consistent, flashing every five seconds, following with the loud thunder, of course. You slowly move towards the other end of the couch, keeping your eyes on the windows to make sure they don’t break or crack.
Tears fall down your cheeks as the storm rages on, and you don’t even realize that you’re crying until they drop into your arms. Wiping them away, you close your eyes and take some deep breaths, curling up with your knees to your chest, the blanket still wrapped around you.
Maz walks into the living room, rubbing his eyes and turning to get a glass of water from the kitchen. He doesn’t even realize you’re up until he looks towards the couch, expecting to see you asleep.
As he steps closer, the lightning lights up your face, letting him see that you’ve been crying.
“Are you okay?” His voice startles you a bit, you didn’t hear him before.
“I’m fine. Just had a bad dream,” you brush him off. He takes a seat beside you and reaches out for your hand. Looking at it, you roll your eyes and push it away.
“(Y/N), please. Let me be there for you,” he softly says. His voice is so kind and caring, nothing like how he’s spoken to you in the past two days. He then opens his arms for you to cuddle into, but still, you decline.
Just then, a branch falls right in front of the windows, startling both of you. You basically jump twenty feet and Maz ends up moving closer to you, instinctively wanting to protect you.
“Let’s go back to our room,” he whispers, feeling a little bit terrified of what just happened.
“I’m fine, Maz.”
“I don’t want you sleeping out here. You just jumped about ten feet because of that, who knows what’s going to happen?” You continue to resist his offers, when another huge branch falls right as a loud clap of thunder rings out, shaking the entire house.
Both you and Maz are up and running to your shared room. Once in there, you take a seat on the large chair in the corner of the room. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but you still didn’t want to sleep next to him.
“I’ll take the chair,” he says, motioning for you to stand.
“No.”
“It’s too late to argue. Just get into the bed and get a good night's sleep because I’m sure that couch wasn’t comfortable.”
“John, I told you, I’m fine!” He suddenly pulls your hands and drags you to the bed. You’re too exhausted to fight back, so you just lay down and sigh out contently, feeling the soft mattress underneath you.
“Mind if I sleep here, too?” He asks softly.
“What, you don’t want to sleep in the chair anymore?” Maz scoffs and slides under the covers, keeping his distance for a moment. But as soon as he realizes that you’re still shaking, he pulls you right into his arms.
You are too tired to fight back, still, and the comfort of being in someone’s arms is amazing; you forget that you and Maz hate each other for a moment.
After a short while, the storm thankfully died down a lot, so that it was just raining.
“Hey,” Maz whispers, moving to sit a little away from you, so that he could see your face. “Can we talk?” You nod and go to sit up, but he keeps you laying down.
“I want to apologize for how I’ve treated you over the past year. I’ve been so so awful and I can’t believe the things I’ve said to you, even if you were pissing me off.” You giggle and nod.
“I’m sorry, too. I never realized how sweet and kind you can be, when you’re not acting like an ass.” This time, he chuckles and pulls you a little closer to him.
“I feel so bad. I never wanted this to happen, I really liked you the first time we met.”
“Then what happened? Because one day, you just decided to hate me.”
“Yeah…” he sits up and runs his hands through his messy hair. You join him, wondering what he was going to say.
“I...realized you were too perfect for me. I don’t deserve someone like you, so I thought that being mean, hating you, pushing you away, I would somehow convince myself that you aren’t perfect. But you are.” You take a moment to let his words sink in.
“So, you were mean to me because you wanted to find something wrong with me, to push your feelings away?” Maz nods, keeping his eyes down in embarrassment.
“I know it sounds stupid, but it made sense in my head. But when you fought back with the same kind of energy, I continued to fall for you. I hated myself for being so rude to you, but I couldn’t stop.” You take his hands in yours and rub the back of them with your thumbs.
“Are you going to continue with it? Because I honestly hate fighting, and so do Zapata, Julia, Vinnie, and Quinn.” You both laugh and move closer together.
“No. I promise to not say anything rude to you anymore, or pick a fight over nothing.”
“Good,” you smile. “I promise as well. No more fighting.” You stick your pinky out for him to take. He can’t help but shake his head at you with a grin on his face, but nonetheless, he takes your finger in his, making the promise complete.
“Now,” you lay back down, pulling the covers over your bodies and curling up to him. “Let me sleep because that couch is not comfortable at all.”
“But first, can I kiss you?” His voice is so soft and filled with nerves, not really knowing if you’d be okay with it. Taking matters into your own hands, you lean forward and press your lips to his in a sweet kiss.
“Oh yeah, I can get used to this,” he jokes before kissing you once more.
“How are we going to explain to my brother and the others that we literally made up in five minutes? After we spent two days fighting in the car?” You ask, making him laugh in response.
“Who cares? They’ll just be happy we’re not at each other’s throats anymore.”
“Well, maybe in a different way,” you whisper. You move your head down to kiss his neck softly. He moans when you bite down, smirking upon hearing the exact response you were going for.
“Let’s save that for another night, yeah?”

*A week later back at the Avengers Tower*
There was something off about (Y/N) and everyone notice this. She kept to herself more than usual. Tony had another mission for Bucky and Steve. The boys wanted you to tag along, to get you out of the tower and doing your usual routine. They both walked to where your room that was moved closer to the lab so Bruce can keep a close eye on you. As they drew near Bucky knocked on the door and entered. You were sitting in the corner of the room holding your most prized possessions, weapons, a gun and knife. You looked up at the two with terror. Screaming telling them something is wrong on the inside, but you were so scared so your facial expression said you were fine.
I hurt myself today
see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
The two men stared at you as you hesitantly stood up, gathering you belongings for the mission. Avoiding both of their gazes you started packing your clothes for the mission not even know what the mission is about.
“(Y/N), you don’t have to go on this mission if you don’t want to.” Steve said with concern.
You shook your head and said with a smile, “It’s fine Steve. I think I can manage.” Both men looked at one another and shrugged. Steve exited the room while Bucky stayed behind.
“(Y/N).” he said softly looking at you. “Are you sure?”
“I’m fine Bucky.” you said sternly at him. “Can you please leave so I can finish packing without any distractions.”
“Alright.” he sighed walking towards the door. “Tony said we leave at nightfall.” he added exiting the door. You sighed, stared at the door and started to gather your belongings.
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
*Time Skip*
“Alright, Stark suggests that we split up for this mission.” Steve says to you and Bucky as you all place your belongings in the penthouse Tony bought. “They have an underground maze that has these different rooms and chambers. Tony also wants each of us to get coordinates of the people who are associated with Hydra.” he added loading up his gun.
Bucky paused, sharpening his knife and asked, “Wait, why do we need to split up if we’re looking for the same thing?” You looked towards Steve with the same questioned look Bucky had on his face.
“Right, I asked Tony the same thing and he said that Hydra scattered the information in different computers to secure the safety of those people.” Steve answered putting his gun away and picking up his shield. He looked up at you and Bucky taking a slight note of how distant the two of you were. “Ok, um I’m going to make a quick call to Tony to see if he has any other requests for this mission.” he said exiting the living area and going into his room.
You sighed as you finished loading your gun and putting it in your thigh holster. You moved on to sharpening your knife when you heard Bucky clearing his throat. He stood standing behind the kitchen counter and moved towards you. You shifted in your seat at the dining table when he took the seat across from you.
“Are you sure you’re ready to go back into a mission Y/N?” Bucky asked sincerely, looking at your hands expertly sharpening your knife. You looked up at him and nodded. “I’m being serious Y/N, I don’t want you to get hurt.” he added looking up at your face, staring at your eyes. That's when he noticed something was different about you, just from the look in your eyes.
“James, I’m fine. Stop treating me like I’m a fragile baby that doesn’t know what she's doing.” You exclaimed as you finished sharpening your knife and standing from your seated position. “I’ve trained hard for missions like these. So stop worrying.” you added putting your knife in your holster wrapped around your waist and turning to walk to your room.
Bucky stared at you as you retreated to the area. ‘Fuck.’ he said to himself thinking about how you called him by his first name.
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
*in underground tunnel maze*
Steve, Bucky and yourself were huddled at the entrance of the tunnel. All making sure their weapons and coms were accounted for. “Everyone knows what to do right?” Steve questions you and Bucky as he adjusts the straps of his shield. You and Bucky nodded in agreement to his question. “Alright, I’ll go to the west side of the maze, Buck to the east and Y/N north. We’ll try and meet in the middle headquarters. Good luck in there.” he said as he entered the tunnel. You took a deep breath and you retried your gun from your holster. Bucky looked over at you as he also drew his weapon.
“Stay safe..ok doll.” he says with a shaky breath as he began to enter the tunnel. You looked into the direction of the dark tunnel having a weird feeling deep within your gut. Ignoring that feeling and exhaling the breath you held for some reason you entered the dark maze.
Walking through the maze wasn’t half as bad as you thought it would be. You found your third computer and began to download the file on some rich fat bastard to the flash drive that Tony gave each of you before the mission. You sighed as you finished getting the info you thought you heard something behind you, but as you turned nothing was there. Your com was silent until there was a slight static and a voice came through.
“I’ve got my third file.” Steve said with a hushed voice.
“Same here punk. Doll you ok over there?” Bucky said calmly.
“Yeah, I’m fine over here. I thought I heard something, but nothing was there.” you replied.
“Right, well keep your eyes peeled out for Hydra security members. Stark mentioned that some soldiers would be lurking around the computer rooms.” Steve whispered.
“How many of these computers are there again?” Bucky asked through the coms.
“Tony said there were ten files so we can regroup near the middle of the maze. What are your guys’ locations?” Steve answered.
“I think I’m near the middle.” Bucky replied. “Y/N, are you at the center of the maze yet?”
“Yeah, I feel like I'm already close.” you responded as you made your way around the winding walls. Your gun skillfully pointing forward making sure nobody got in your way.
“Wait, Buck I think I see you.” Steve announced. “Y/N, Bucky and I are together and going towards your location.”
“Alright.” you replied and paused when you began to see a shadow. A hydra soldier was guarding the main headquarters. “Guys there’s a guard, but I think I can take him.” you stated, readying your gun.
“Y/N wait until we get there. We don’t know if there are more guards around your area.” Bucky shouted through the com.
“I got this James.” you replied as you took your com out of your ear. You slowly made your way towards the guard and he noticed your shadow emerging before him. He drew his gun pointing it at you and shouted asking who you were. Ignoring him you began to fire, shooting him in the leg then his chest. The gun shot echoed and his body collapsed on the floor. You walked closer to the body, turned it to have it facing up and that’s when you froze. You couldn’t move. You froze staring at the body that laid before you and the blood began seeping out of the gun wounds. Your eyes began moving up the body to look at the guard’s face and this was the moment you finally dropped your gun in fear. The face of the guard wasn’t the man you had originally seen, no it was the face of the monster. The monster from your nightmare that Hydra had induced. It was you.
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
You crouched down at the level of the body, not knowing how long you stared at it, but you couldn’t keep your eyes off of it. There were two Hydra soldiers that saw your figure and slowly drew closer to where you stood. You were completely unaware of them inching towards you.
“Y/N!” Bucky yelled to get your attention, but it didn’t work. The Hydra soldiers turned towards the commotion Bucky had made and drew their weapons. Luckily Steve was with Bucky to back him up and they both fought against them. The firing of guns echoed throughout the entire maze and an alarm went off. Steve and Bucky got closer to you and protected you. “Y/N?” Bucky shook you to snap out of whatever trance you were in, but it was no use you didn’t budge.
“What’s wrong with her?” Steve asked quickly, looking over his shoulder as he fired his gun at an incoming Hydra member.
“I don’t know, but we have to protect her, Steve.” Bucky said shooting his gun at another member. Steve nodded and held his shield up covering Buck. Bucky stood behind Steve aiming his gun to incoming Hydra soldiers. You were still crouched behind the two when they defended you.
Tumblr media
“Is that all of them?” Bucky asked Steve as he kept his gun up.
“Maybe. There could be more coming from above the maze, but we should get out of here. How is she?” remarked Steve prying a gun off a dead hydra soldier’s hands.
“Still not responding.” Bucky replied, picking you up and carrying you in bridal style. This was where you blanked out and everything turned black.
*back at penthouse*
Bucky had laid you down on the couch and decided to wash up. Steve sat by your side petting your head waiting for you to regain consciousness. He turned the tv on for background noise and went to the kitchen to get some water for when you wake up. Steve noticed you fidgeting and slowly waking up. He rushed over to your side placing the glass of water on the table at the center.
“Hey Y/N. How are you feeling?” he asked as he brushed your hair out of your face.
“I’m fine. Slight headache and my throat feels dry.” you replied rubbing your temples. Steve gave you the glass of water that he placed on the table. “Thanks.”
“Yeah, no problem.” Steve said, looking s way for a bit. “Um..Y/N..What happened back at the maze?” he hesitantly asked.
“Honestly Steve. I don’t know how to put it. It was my nightmare.” you answered with a slight crack in your voice. You took a sip of water to somewhat soothe your nerves, but it didn’t work. Steve nodded and just when he was about to say something Buck came out of his room.
“Y/N! You’re awake.” He said as he rushed to your side gently grabbing your face to examine it.
You pushed his hands away, “Bucky, I’m fine.”
“You didn’t seem fine back there doll.” he said looking over at Steve who agreed with him.
“Bucky, nothing bad happened. I just froze. Nothing to worry about.” you said looking down at the glass of water in your hands.
“Nothing to worry about. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!? Y/N YOU COULD HAVE BEEN SHOT!!” he began to yell at you.
“Bucky, calm down.” Steve said, raising his hand to make his friend lower his voice, but that didn’t work.
“I CAN’T CALM DOWN STEVE! Y/N COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!” Bucky stood from his seated position and began to pace in front of the two of you. “Y/N I don’t know how many times I asked you if you were ready for a mission.”
“I said I’m fine James. I just had a small hiccup. Ok. I took down that one soldier and got no scratches.” you tried to sound calm when replying. You placed your glass of water down onto the table when you noticed your hands began to shake. Steve noticed this too and looked over at you with worried eyes.
“Bucky, I think you should calm down. Y/N is right she did take down a hydra soldier. We all got out of there safely.” Steve said, trying to calm down his friend and also you as well.
“Oh now you’re taking her side? She didn’t fucking move, Steve. There were soldiers surrounding her with their guns ready to fire. Y/N, you could have died!” Bucky snapped pointing at you. You felt your eyes begin to tear up, but you didn't want the two to see you cry. Bucky’s words felt like a knife stabbing you. You instantly thought back to a few hours ago back to the soldier you killed. Back to the body you had shot. Back to the body from your dream or nightmare. Your dead look alike. You were so lost in your thoughts you couldn’t hear Bucky and Steve arguing. You couldn’t move again. You didn’t even blink. You couldn’t even breathe. It felt like someone sucker punched you and you couldn’t catch your breath. Then something inside you snapped and you stood up from your seated position. The two men looked over at you as you began to slowly walk to your room. Steve sighed, putting his head in his hands in frustration. Bucky on the other hand stormed to the bar of the penthouse to fix himself a drink.
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
*small time skip*
Steve and Bucky sat in silence on the couch. It had been a few hours since you went into your room. They saw that the TV projected a call from Tony. Steve answered the call and Tony’s face appeared.
“Capsicle. Manchurian Candidate. Where is Little Miss Heartbreaker?” Tony mentioned looking around the penthouse.
“Stark, you know Y/N doesn’t like that nickname.” Steve said sternly, staring at the screen.
“Fine, where is Rowdy Ronda? (a/n: *cough* ronda rousey if you didn’t know *cough*)” he said again with slight annoyance.
“In her room.” Bucky huffed.
“Right..well how was the mission? You get the names?” he asked while tinkering with something.
“Yeah we did, but...um..something happened..with Y/N.” Steve murmured.
“What happened? Is she alright?” Tony exclaimed as he stopped messing with his project.
“She’s fine. It's just she-” Steve was cut off.
“She was almost killed.” Bucky interrupted.
“WHAT?!” Tony yelled. “How did that happen?” he stared at the pair on the other side of the screen.
“She just stood there staring at a body she shot down.” Bucky shot back with slight anger in his eyes.
“She might have had a panic attack, Stark. When we got back to here and she regained consciousness she said she felt like she couldn’t move like she was frozen. She told me that she was basically reliving her nightmare.” Steve added staring at the table where your glass remained untouched. Bucky looked over to his friend in shock or anger. Honestly he couldn’t tell how he was feeling.
“Well. Is she ok? She shouldn’t have gone on a mission if she isn’t up for it.” Tony asked, staring at the two.
“That's what I told her all day during the mission, but she was too stubborn to listen to me.” Bucky remarked standing from the couch and pouring himself another drink.
“We haven’t checked up on her yet. We thought that it would be a good idea to give her some air to breathe.” Steve said looking over at his friend with slight anger.
“Fine. Well check up on her now please. I need you all back here with those flash drives. I’ll see you in a couple of days.” Tony ended the call. Bucky huffed as he downed his drink making his way over to your door as Steve trailed behind him.
“Wait Buck, I think that you should apologize to Y/N.” Steve said as he grabbed Bucky’s shoulder stopping him from knocking out your closed door.
“Why should I say sorry? I was right, wasn’t I? She should have rested more before she decides to go on a mission.” Bucky countered, shoving Steve’s hand off his shoulder. Steve rubbed his hand over his face in annoyance and gave up.
“Fine. What are you gonna say to her then?” he asked with his hands on his hips.
“I..well I’m gonna...fuck.” Bucky looked to the ground thinking of what to say to you. Steve huffed and moved Bucky out of the way so he can knock on your door.
“Y/N? Hey can we talk to you?” Steve said kindly behind the closed door. There was no answer. He knocked again. Nothing. Steve looked over to Bucky who had a concerned look.
This time Bucky knocked on the door. “Doll? Open the door please.” Nothing. He went to twist the doorknob, but it was locked and the two men looked at one another in shock. “Fuck..Y/N open the door!” this time his knocks were heavier. Still nothing. He used his metal hand to twist the doorknob so hard that it broke and he held one end in his hand and they heard the other end fall to the ground. The pair looked at each other another time, nodding and drawing their guns for precaution.
“Y/N?” Steve said as he pushed your door slightly open. They both entered and saw the room trashed. They signaled one another to inspect the room. Looking for you. You weren’t there. “Buck. Come here.” Steve said as he grabbed a letter on top of your disheveled bed.
“What does it say?” Bucky asked, looking at his friend.
“If you want to see her alive again, bring the drives to Hydra Headquarters.” Steve read aloud looking back at his friend.

-Maybe it wasn't meant to be-
|J. Hughes|
[Part 1]
Jack knew things were over when Charlie wasn’t waiting for him in the lobby of their apartment building as soon as he got there. After the disaster of a phone call midway through the road trip, he hadn’t expected her to be there when he got home. But when he unlocked the door to their apartment and was met with their dog, Luca whining and jumping up on him, he knew. Everything of her’s was gone. It was almost like she hadn’t even been there. Jack swallowed hard, set down his bags, and walked towards the bedroom they had shared. A piece of paper lay on his pillow; the only pillow now on the bed. Jack picks it up, sitting down on her side of the bed. He started to read, his eyes welling up as he glanced at the bottom and saw her name.
To the next girl Jack loves,
He’ll get cuddly when he’s tired. He always has to be touching you. He makes sure you know you never have to worry about knowing how much he loves you. He hates getting out of bed in the morning so you’re going to have to drag him out of bed, every morning, without fail. He never isn’t eating something. No matter how many times you warn him about getting his teeth knocked out, he never keeps his mouth guard in his mouth on the ice. He’ll fight with Quinn and Luke over the stupidest things but you’ll never doubt that they love each other more than anything. He’ll let Quinn and Luke pick on you but never lets it go too far. You’ll become one of the hockey girlfriends. Jack will show you off to everybody, beyond proud that you’re his girlfriend. His teammates are his best friends and his brothers. But you’ll never be second to them. They’ll become your friends too. Get used to them being around. You’ll grow to love them and they’ll love you. They’ll tease you and Jack but Jack will just smile and brush it off, kissing your forehead as he smirks. It’s just one of his many ways of showing that you’re his girl. He’ll love you no matter what and never take that for granted. But then things get bad. He shuts you out. He doesn’t talk about what’s wrong or why he’s upset. He doesn’t want to burden other people with his problems but will drop everything to take care of everyone else’s. He’ll start to cancel plans, even if he doesn’t really have other plans. Nobody can tell you what to do to fix things because nobody else can understand what’s wrong. He’ll tell you not to worry, tell you everything is fine. You’ll beg and plead for Jack to come back, the Jack that you fell in love with. But he can’t. Things won’t go back to normal. Then you’ll start to fight. Every little thing will be a fight. You’ll want to let go. And maybe you do. But I promise, you’ll regret it. Jack is worth it. What you have is worth it. Don’t make the same mistake I did and give up on him. It’ll kill you to let go. I mean, you’re not just losing Jack. You’re losing Quinn, Luke, his parents, the hockey boys. Nothing seems like it’ll be okay. Everything falls apart and your world spins out of control. But, if you decide Jack is worth it and things can work between you two, then get him back. Do everything in your power to get him back. Because once you lose him, you’ll regret everything. I already do. I hate that it ended the way it did. But it’s for the best. Jack and I weren’t meant to be and I get that now. It’s your turn. You get to love him. Just don’t make the same mistake I did.
Charlie
The tears that slipped out of Jack’s eyes fell on the white blanket covering their bed, making little dots. He flipped the paper over, seeing more writing. This time, it was a letter addressed to him.
Jack, Don’t come after me. Let me go. You and I weren’t everything we thought we were. You need to go out and find someone new. Someone who doesn’t hold you back. I’m not the one and I’m okay with that. I’ll always love you because you were my first love. My first kiss, my first everything. Every memory I have is with you. I want you to be happy and I can’t give you that. So please, I’m begging you, let me disappear. You are strong, caring, loving and everything a girl could want. But how can I just forget everything? How can I just forget that me and you ever happened? All the things you ever said, all the music we ever shared? All the phone calls? The messages? They had to mean something at one point and it hurts too much to let it all go. I can’t pretend it all never happened. All those years full of memories. It’s not right. This all isn’t right. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. People tell me to just let it all go, that I don’t need you. But I do need you. I don’t want anyone else. I want you. I don’t want to make memories with someone else. I want to keep making memories with you and now I can’t. I wanted you to be a good man. I wanted it to be you. Why isn’t it you? Why did you do this to me? Why? Here’s the truth. I’ve been broken for so long. And I get attached way too fast. I’m lost and I’m scared. I’m scared of everything. The littlest things scare the hell out of me. I’m scared of being happy. Or smiling. Or putting myself out there again. Because every time I do, I end up getting hurt. I have no one. I feel so alone. I push people away because that’s what I think I need. I try so hard to be enough and somehow I never am. I was never enough for you. I always let people in and open my heart just for them to break it. Just like you did. You said you would never leave and you would never hurt me. But here we are. I’m sitting here, writing you a letter, absolutely terrified. I’m sorry Jack. I never wanted things to end like this. Goodbye. Charlie Jack’s body shook with sobs. All he wanted to do was go after her. But she had told him, if he really loved her, not to come after him. He knew he loved her more than anyone else in the entire world. So he didn’t. He let her go, just like she had asked. And to this day, he regretted it more than anything. Here he was, 3 years later, the playboy of the NHL. All over the news and magazines, hooking up with this girl, drinking and partying with this person; the exact opposite of who he had been with her. And the Devils put up with it. Because what team would trade their leading scorer and the man who had led them to back to back Stanley Cups, also making them a contender again this year. But it was all because of her. All because he had made a stupid decision to let her go when he should have fought for her. Every move he made on the ice was because of her and what he hadn’t done. And now he had to live with himself and the mistake he had made. Charlie was happy, or at least she pretended to be. Every so often, her thoughts would wander to a brown haired, blue eyed boy who had captured her heart when she was 14. Back before she knew what love was. But she had pushed him away, just like she always did. Before he could hurt her, she took him out of her life and told him to forget her. To not come after her. She had always secretly hoped he would come looking for her but that day never came. So instead, she had tried to move on, ending up in Denver, Colorado and working for the Colorado Avalanche. She had managed to avoid Jack every time the Avs had played the Devils. But ever since she had left him, she had stayed alone. Never had another boyfriend because she couldn’t.
She still loved him. But of course, as fate would have it, one of the hockey boys came back into her life. Alex Turcotte, one of Jack’s oldest friends and teammates, got traded to the Avs. Charlie, who was the director of communications and team services, was one of the first people Alex had to meet with when he got to Denver. He had walked down the hall, stopped at the door of her office, read her name on the plate by the door and leaned against the doorframe, a smirk on his face.
“Charlotte Henry, director of communications and team services.” Charlie had looked up, surprise and excitement covering her face.
“Alex! I couldn’t believe it when I was given the notice you were traded! I missed you so much!” Charlie said, getting up and rushing to hug him. In order to keep from all the memories of Jack flooding back in and making her sad all the time, she had completely cut off everyone that reminded her of Jack. Of course, she would check his social media every once in a while, maybe even googling his name and reading what all the news websites and hockey commentators had to say about him. The last she had seen, he was “rumored” to be linked to some model hotshot.
“I missed you too, Char! So, what have you been up to? Besides getting this big fancy job and getting to boss people around, something you do very well, if I remember right.” Charlie laughs as he sits down in the chair across from her desk.
“Oh you know, same old, same old. Lots of hockey.” Alex smiles and nods. Charlie gets up and walks over, closing the door to her office so she and Alex could talk in private.
“Char, what happened? We used to be so close. Then you just dropped off the face of the earth. Jack fell off the deep end and you’re 1,800 miles away from him.” Charlie pushes her hair back out of her face and watches Alex, who is sitting forward in his chair, eyes on her.
“Jack and I broke up. I guess you knew that. But things didn’t end the way I wanted them to. So I decided to leave and came here. I shut out everyone who reminded me of Jack, which included you guys.” Alex watches her, the look on his face hard to read.
“Oh. So that’s why you’ve been hiding out here and haven’t come back to Plymouth at all for Christmas or anything?” Charlie nods, messing with paperwork on her desk.
“Huh. Well I guess that’s all there is to it, huh?” Charlie glances at Alex as he just completely drops the topic. She had expected him to keep questioning, digging into why they had split and whether or not she was still in love with Jack. She knew Alex could read her well but she didn’t think he would have picked up on her not wanting to talk about Jack.
“You’re not going to question me about it? About why we broke up? Why I decided to leave?” Alex shakes his head and reaches for the pile of paperwork with a sticky note with his name on it, sitting on her desk. She snatches it away from him and forces him to look at her.
“Alex, this is the first time I’ve even tried to talk to anyone about this. You’re just gonna brush it off?” Alex watches her, seeing the impending breakdown and stands up, walking around the desk and kneeling down in front of her.
“Charlie, I could tell that you didn’t want to talk about it but you needed to. So I decided it would be best not to push it. But if you want to talk about it, how about I come over to your apartment for dinner and you can talk and cry through everything.” Charlie nods, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath to reel her emotions back in.
“Okay. I’ll text you my address. Let’s get started on this paperwork.” Alex nods, still watching Charlie and already planning out a text to Jack.
