“When she applied to run in the Boston Marathon in 1966 they rejected her saying: “Women are not physiologically able to run a marathon, and we can’t take the liability.” Then exactly 50 years ago today, on the day of the marathon, Bobbi Gibb hid in the bushes and waited for the race to begin. When about half of the runners had gone past she jumped in. She wore her brother’s Bermuda shorts, a pair of boy’s sneakers, a bathing suit, and a sweatshirt. As she took off into the swarm of runners, Gibb started to feel overheated, but she didn’t remove her hoodie. “I knew if they saw me, they were going to try to stop me,” she said. “I even thought I might be arrested.” It didn’t take long for male runners in Gibb’s vicinity to realize that she was not another man. Gibb expected them to shoulder her off the road, or call out to the police. Instead, the other runners told her that if anyone tried to interfere with her race, they would put a stop to it. Finally feeling secure and assured, Gibb took off her sweatshirt. As soon as it became clear that there was a woman running in the marathon, the crowd erupted—not with anger or righteousness, but with pure joy, she recalled. Men cheered. Women cried. By the time she reached Wellesley College, the news of her run had spread, and the female students were waiting for her, jumping and screaming. The governor of Massachusetts met her at the finish line and shook her hand. The first woman to ever run the marathon had finished in the top third.”

All the jokes about Ken and horses are good but I just wanna say it's such a good parallel to how actual young men get swept into misogyny and the patriarchy.
Like they're told to believe it means men get to be cool and manly and have this power but with that comes extremely rigid commands of what they can be as a man and a cycle of self hatred for never matching those gender roles perfectly. Patriarchy tells men that if they just do exactly what is expected of them, then they get all the "cool stuff" that comes with. That doesn't work though when there's only a small group that actually gets that power, but men will keep trying to fit into those roles in hopes that they can.
In the end there are no horses or the myth men are told, it's just endless cycles of self hatred and ingroup fighting.

Me, living casually and purposelessly:
Also me, randomly remembering one of my favorite characters, who should not have died, especially in such a stupid and preventable way: *punches a nearby pillow with all force*
Also me: *goes on living in the same way*

In BB, a Park cat's name changes over time. Born nameless, the first name they wear is of their mentor; Mentor's (dominant) Paw.
The Wind Runner's name was self-given. Many cats of the River Kingdom yearned for the freeness of the moor just beyond the river, and yet, found themselves embroiled in border dispute over their loose homesteads. She became the authority, uniting them under the Wind Coalition.
Her name refers to how she keeps these winds running. Like a ringleader, she is their arbitrator and their enforcer. In exchange for their services when she demands, the Wind Runner ensures that peace is kept between the smaller territories, and that they come together in times of need.
She is ambitious, calculating, and BRUTAL. A ferocious enemy, and a selfish ally. What she does, she does for herself, her family, and the Wind Coalition in that order.
It is a reputation she's proud of. She WANTS for you to fear her grudges, and stay in her good graces. A truly powerful cat is not one who has to command; they are one for whom others move willingly.

Idol Actor Ryu "linked to a lot of women" Sun Jae will soon be revealed to be the stupidest fool in love who existed in the world.
He would try to play it cool (as expected) but Sol looks at him and he's a blushing, pining mess and the industry will get whiplash.
And I'm here for it.

the fascinating thing about the maze runner books vs the movies is that they're both tragedies, but just...different kinds. in the books no matter what wicked did, they never got close to a cure. it was all for nothing: all the torture, all the death, all the money and effort spent trying to cure something that was just unstoppable. the world burned while a few hundred immunes survived, and there was no other way the story could have gone.
but in the movies they were so close. thomas was the cure. they had it in their hands and could have saved everyone, but they were just too late. wicked was destroyed, the last city fell, and with it the world's last hope for a cure. they almost got the cure in time. they almost made it in time to save newt. they almost won.

“Do you wanna go somewhere?” Brenda asks you. “Somewhere else. Somewhere we choose.” The stoplight reflecting in her eyes turns green, and you nod.
You are Teresa Agnes, and you fall in love in the passenger's seat of a truck.
